  • johnny taylor: "Well, if you're gonna get ON....I'm getting OFF! "  - Abe Lincoln to his horse (who accidentally got rear hoof caught in the stirrup).

  • BigSkyKen: brianc, I love you man, but you've lost this debate and are just lending credence to the Søren Kierkegaard below.  :)

  • brianc: you may have had to regidster here  but  thats  just a  formality  and restaurants  etc cant  refuse to serve you nless for  good  reason----- in a private house you  can be  refused  entry  for any reason even stuff like  racial prejudice

  • BigSkyKen: Hmmm, I had to request membership by registering on this site - that doesn't sound like a public place to me.  But then pesky little facts often do mess up a good story ;)

  • eedy: That is good to hear, Delphine, as I have friends with Windows 7.  Wishing everyone a safe & sane holiday weekend & remember the "fallen".

  • Pooch1: So are stores and restaurants but the owners can refuse service and order you out.  Try yelling "Fire" in a theater and see how free your speech really is!

  • brianc: this site IS differnt  from your  house ---- its  public

  • BigSkyKen: The First Amendment does not apply everywhere.  It is a US thing, so what if this site is not owned by a US citizen?  While it is in the Bill of Rights, it does not apply in my house or yours.  We have the privilege of not allowing people in our house who profess certain things or speak certain words.  This forum is not different...it is owned and controlled by a person(s), and is not a business, thus could be considered their "house" to allow whatever speech they want to allow.

  • delphineaz: The 1st Amendment guaratees freedom of speech for everyone even those we don't agree with.

  • delphineaz: eedy i've been told by beta testers that W7 will get the free upgrade too.

  • BigSkyKen: I struggled in my decision on the profound quote of the evening to post, so decided to post two of them that seem to be in theme with recent conversation. “People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.”  ― Søren Kierkegaard  and  “The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.”  ― Hubert H. Humphrey

  • johnny taylor: yes Pooch1,, and to whom it may concern - 'freedom of speech' doesn't include the right to make veiled threats. The remark reminded me of Abe's quote below.

  • eedy: I read somehere that users of Window 8 or 8.1 (?) get a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it is released.   Maybe version 7 should, too as it said it had a lot of 7's features.   I am tapping my fingers to see the difference.
