Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Patricia- Beautiful photos of Farrah!  Someday she may be without her plastic straws . . . they have been outlawed/banned in San Francisco, and other California cities.  Maybe soon to follow in other states?

angelface555

Thanks Bubble!

Marilyne, and that's a good thing, but for now, that is the only toy she seems interested in anymore. Perhaps because most of that type of play requires my participation?

She'll be six next month and may be giving up toys as she ages.

so_P_bubble

she might like pipe cleaners as well...

Shirley

I'm loving this & will show off my babies another day.  Most of the time we do everything their way but when it comes to travel, I give the orders and lock them in the RV the night before so they can't hide on the day of travel.  Of course, means I also stay locked up with them the night before so they don't wreck the place.  I bought the motorhome with a sliding wooden door to the bedroom, to lock them in when I need to get in & out (after a couple escape mishaps).  I never thought about having to take the cats when my husband was alive, they were HIS babies, mainly because he couldn't handle a dog with his congestive heart failure, and they adopted him. He had put up with years of my taking in birds to raise because "someone found".... wild birds were always given the choice of going outside or staying in, but they knew where "home" was.

Marilyne

Hi Shirley - Welcome to the Pet Forum!  So far we're all about cats, so you'll fit right in! I'm sure there are some dog owners in S&F as well?  Spread the word, and maybe they'll join us.

Sasha

mary Ann, you probably should be afraid of Midi; she’s the one who refuses to be housebroken. She also once climbed 60’ into an oak tree and refused to come down for three days. When she came down, she came just 5’ on the trunk and FELL the rest of the way. I was prepared to get a shovel, but she scampered off to her water dish. Patricia, we’re not sure of her age; she came to us fully grown 12 years ago.

Sasha

This, I hope, is Mariah. Where I am, there she is also.

Sasha, Mariah has beautiful markings and a very pensive expression! We rarely see red/tan calicos or reverse calicos locally. Siamese, Tuxes, and greys seem to predominate. Thanks for the info on Midnight. My solid black female, Sarita, would go anywhere and however, she could manage. I truly believe black cats are smarter than the average cat; grey calicos are easygoing and red calicos are divas! My vet said black cats are not so much true blacks but more of an intense grey.

Sasha

This is Boomer, short for Boomerang. He’s as close to still feral as we have, unless it’s breakfast time.

Sasha

Sorry he’s out of focus; he was clearly still in washing mode.

There are two stories about him, coming up soon.

He reminds me of Sarah, the cat before I had Farrah. She had half of her tail amputated due to frostbite and unfortunately, I lost her to liver disease.

Mary Ann

I can see that Boomer is sticking his tongue out at you.

The title of this discussion "PETS" indicates there might be a variety of different species.  There isn't.  I have dogs.  They don't fit here!

Marilyne

Jane - Yes they do! :)  You and your dogs are welcome here. I'm sure there are other dog owners in S&F?  If you know of any, let them know that this folder has just recently been opened.  Please return, and tell us about your dogs?

angelface555

Jane, Bubble sent posts with links to all discussions and only cat people posted. It's open to everyone.

Sasha

Oh, Jane, yes, dogs fit. It’s just that I have too many cats!

You may have remembered my mention of the five male kittens brought into the vet on July 25th. And subsequent foster care in Washington state. There was no sign of a mother.  And while the kittens, estimated at eight weeks, their severe eye and nose crusting due to an acute upper respiratory infection had caused other issues.

Developmental delays, starvation,(Eyes and noses crusted shut caused them to be unable to find food on their own.); and two of the kittens were not expected to survive, (Peanut, Tomato); which is why they held off on the cams.

Being kittens, after receiving food and medicine, they revived and discovered playtime. Afterall, no one had explained to them that they were disabled. Each litter given a theme and since there were five male kittens, the subject was after the Five Guys fast food restaurant chain. Accordingly, they all had coordinating names such as jalapeno, Peanut, Tomato, Pickles, and Relish.

After an initial vet evaluation, they had medicated eye washes, eye cremes, and antibiotics given through syringes in a kitten wet food slurry. Today they were given a second vet visit which wasn't as hopeful as we might have wished.

"Little sad news - Peanut & Pickles have corneal ulcers in their bad eye that have developed a hole. For both of them, the lens is sealing the hole but in Pickle's case, the hole is large enough that the lens is protruding out of the hole. Peanut's eye probably has been stable in my care but Pickles eye either developed the hole Monday night or the inner eyelid's swelling was keeping it covered but the swelling went down enough to expose it.
Neither of their bad eyes are salvageable. Pickles has zero vision in his bad eye and Peanut has light/darkness vision at best, none at worst. They have an appointment on Tuesday the 21st to remove them.
If their bad eyes are causing them pain, they're not really letting it affect their play at all. They seem fine in every other regard and tested negative on their viral panel.
All the other eyes except for Relish's good eye and Jalapeno's eyes have "standard" ulcers that will be accessed at a future vet visit because the vet wanted to continue to treat them to a longer session of antibiotic ointment for their eyes."
This is why it is so important to care for your pets and spay/neuter. Who knows what happened to the mother cat, there is no back story. Where they were at and how they were was a death sentence.  At least this way, they will survive and hopefully be adopted into good homes.

Marilyne

Patricia - I'll be holding positive thoughts, that those sweet little kittens get adopted as soon as they are ready.  I hope that after the eye surgery, that they'll be healthy and strong, and will find loving families.  Clever idea to name them after hamburger ingredients from The Five Guys, restaurant chain. (Except for peanuts?)

My youngest daughter had two male hamsters when she was young, and named them Lenny and Squiggy, after some characters on a TV show that was popular at the time.  I think the show was "Laverne and Shirley"?

I hope we hear again from Jane and Shirley, and maybe other pet owners here in S&F?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I'm sure I told you that Annie named Kendrick after Kendrick Lamar, a rap singer.  When I had therapy on my shoulder, my therapist (28 years old) thought it was hilarious that a 93-year-old woman had a cat named for a rap singer.  I think so too!

I have two Scottish Terriers.  The older one is white and her name is Annie Laurie.  She's named for the Scottish song, tha has a line ending ....."For bonny Annie Laurie, I would lay me doon and dee...."  Translation "lay me down and die."

The black one is younger and she is called Mickie but her official name is McMurray Kay.  She's named for my grandmother who was influential in getting me my very first Scottish Terrier (also named Mickey) when I was 6 years old.  The Kay is actually the initial K. for my grandmother's "Kate"

Funny where we get names!

Jane, my younger sister bred Dalmations for over twenty years. One female whose given name was Platz's Magic Dancer was nicknamed Maybelline or Maybe for short because of her long dark lashes.

Marilyne

Jane, I often read Soda shoppe, so I've seen your posts about Mickie and Annie.  They sound like a couple of cuties!  I hope you post some pictures soon, so we can see what they look like?

The dogs that we've had over the years, have all been Springer Spaniels. Two were liver and white and one was black and white. We also had an adorable Cock-a-poo, that we inherited from our older daughter when she got divorced. We always had a cats too. After our last Springer died, we concentrated on cats only, plus dog-sitting our son and dil's Labrador retriever.  A regular menagerie around here over the years, but fortunately, we have a big fenced yard, with lots of trees.

My first dog at age 5 was a black terrier called Milou - like the dog in comics Tintin - except that the original Milou was white!
My last dog was called Pompi- short for Pompidou like the then French President , because he had the same bushy eyebrows!

JaneS

I don't post photos but I see my friend, Bubble in here and she does post for me on occasion.  I'll see if I can find a picture and send it to her for posting.  Most of my pics are on my phone and I have to find out how to get them to the computer.  I'm not smart like the rest of you!
