Pitbull puppy, unable to stand or walk, lays on his side, 24/7. Then a loving foster Mom teaches him, with the help of vets and the puppy's determination, how to walk on his own.

Marilyne

Patricia, I'm glad the three little kittens and Mama will we around for another week.  I'll miss them when they're gone!  I hope whoever adopts them, opens a Facebook page, so we can keep track as to how they're doing.

I haven't yet watched the video you posted of the puppy.  I have a hard time watching or reading or hearing about any animals who are crippled or abused.  It's just so heartbreaking, that I can't get the images out of my mind for a long time.  I do so admire the decent people, who step in and help to rescue and work with these animals. FDJ is certainly to be admired for taking in the rescued litters of kittens.  The same applies to you, for adopting Farrah, and providing her with a secure and happy life.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, the video of the puppy is not hard to watch because he does manage to walk and run and does it very well.  Nothing sad about it unless it is the opening scene when you see him lying there, unable to get up.  But the woman who took him was very patient and did a good job.  Cute puppy.

Kendrick might be a Krazy Kat before the night is over.  I petted him for a while, then he got up and went to the drawer where I keep the catnip.  I know he can smell the catnip even with the drawer closed so I decided I'd give him some.  I picked up a bag that he obviously had made contact with before as it had holes in it, made only by a cat who likes catnip.  I decided I'd give him some of that and I ended up with a big amount in my hand.  I took it to his scratch lounge and sprinkled it in there.  He went there for a second and is now cleaning the carpet so I must have lost some on the way to the scratch lounge.  It may be an interesting night.  I will say I have never noticed any extra activity when he's had it before.

Mary Ann

MaryAnn, I'm glad Kendrick enjoys his catnip! Farrah doesn't care for it. She doesn't play with toys or catnip, she's gotten middle-aged! :(

Two days ago FDJ opened up the full room to the kittens and now they are all two pounds and eight weeks and two days with a vet appointment for the three kittens only on Monday with neutering and adoption schedules to be now set up.

Marilyne

Patricia - I just spent some time in the big room, with FDJ and the kittens.  It's the first time I've actually seen FDJ, except for his feet or his hands.  He walked in to the room in his stockinged feet, and sat down with the kittens and was playing with them, and giving each one equal attention.  Seraphina is there too, getting her share of the petting.

Mary Ann, Winnie loved catnip, and would always have a burst of energy after I sprinkled a little on his scratch lounge.  He would usually begin by scratching it a lot, and pushing his face into it - then running around the room and back to the spot again. It didn't take long for him to wear himself out, and then was ready for a nap.  I'm not sure if he actually ate it or not?

Mary Ann

Patricia, I watched a little of the new kitten link you gave us.  I didn't stay for the whole thing.

Marilyn, I had a loose ball of catnip in my hand, maybe about 1/2 inch, and I thought I put the whole thing on his scratch lounge, but he ignored the lounge and ate on the carpet so I wonder when I turned to put it in the lounge, if I lost it and it fell on the floor.  He's none the worse for wear, I did not hear him running around and I had a restless sleep last night because of my legs and feet so I didn't sleep good.

MaryAnn, I often do not sleep more than two or two and a half hours at a time but have gotten used to the regular nocturnal sleep breaks. I really wish Farrah liked catnip as Sarah used to love it. Farrah likes attention and rubdowns but just doesn't seem interested in playing with toys lately.

I often jump around on the videos which is why I like Brookivy's summary cams as she generally posts shorter clips of events with FDJ's fosters. I rarely watch a full-length video without jumping.

Marilyne, if you ever see FDJ among people, you will be surprised as he's tall, over six feet. He has the cams set up at kitten level, and people always remark on his height at adoption events.

He is a senior programmer at AT&T and is lucky to have a flex schedule allowing him to work from home as well as in the office. His son Chris, or Minion, who often shows up in the videos; is I believe, also in programming.

He has three senior cats he is permanently fostering as well as two kittens he adopted from Shelly from "Tiny Kittens," but they do not come into the room where he fosters mamas and kittens. You will often see Shelly, and also another local foster, Sarah in kitten visits as well as FDJ appearing on their Youtube kitten fosters as they're all friends.

Each time a litter leaves for adoption, I'm both happy for them and sad to see them go. It is always at least a week or two before FDJ has more kittens, or cats fostering. On the FB Critter Room page, he will announce new fosters but does show reruns of previous litters in the meanwhile.

angelface555

Okay, FDJ reports that all the kittens did well across the board at the vets and their neutering or snips date is for the twentieth and adoption date is scheduled for December first.

Mama got to spend her first afternoon alone since having the kittens and spent it sleeping while they were at the vets.

Mary Ann

Good for Mama!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

I'll hate seeing them leave FDJ's, but will also be happy when they are all adopted into forever homes.  I will be especially happy when Mama Seraphina, is adopted by a loving family.

angelface555

They have a bit of grace time due to the holidays as it usually would be snips set for the weekend and adoption, the following week. Mama is a big favorite with viewers, and the only downside is for FDJ bringing in one of his older nonreactive cats for the kittens to get used to other cats besides Mama.

Mother cats generally let kittens get away with all sorts of things a nonrelated cat would never do. A nonreactive cat is one who ignores kittens typically but will use a" set down" paw if they get out of hand with no hissing or biting. So far Mama Seraphina is against any cats around her babies. She would definitely be reactive!

Mary Ann

Patricia, naturally I did not stop with the walk in the woods which was OK, but then I went on to Poki and he is one cute cat.  I'll keep Kendrick, however, I don't need to chase after a cat like Poki.  I realize Poki is much younger than Kendrick.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Now I'll have to go back to find Poki. I would love a second cat to keep Farrah entertained. She rarely plays anymore. However, last night she sat behind me on the couch purring while she groomed my hair.

Marilyne

Patricia - Do you remember a Senior Net and early S&F member named Diane, who posted in the Cats folder, and in Bosom Buddies and a couple of others?   She had a husband named Del, who had a lot of health issue, and she was always talking about him?  Reason I'm asking, is that the California town where they lived (retired to), apparently burned down in the Camp Fire, last night.  It was a LARGE community, and a very nice little town, outside of Chico.  I was pretty friendly with her for years on Senior Net.  Then when we lost SN, and S&F opened, I'm not sure if she joined here or not?  I had her email address for many years, and we wrote a lot, but lost all my emails when I switched to Apple mail.  Anyway, the news says that lots of people did not survive in Paradise, and everyone else was evacuated.

angelface555

Marilyne, I'm sorry and embarrassed that I don't remember a Diane; but I should as that is where I first started posting in SeniorNet. Several friends posted in Thirdage as well as SeniorNet in 2000 and they encouraged me to join SeniorNet. I hope your friend is okay and was able to evacuate.

That sounds a horrible fire, and I hope it is ended quickly and no more fires this year!

Marilyne

Thanks for responding.  I can't help wondering if they were still living in the town of Paradise, because looks like it no longer exists.  Here is a short video of a man driving through the area.  Shocking!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp9Tg9Z-Hdg

angelface555

That is a horrific video, I was wondering why the driver seemed so calm driving amidst flames?

Mary Ann

With a hard hat on, that driver looked as if he was a storm tracker or fire tracker - whatever he might be called.  I kind of expected to see a picture I saw on the Weather Channel of a man driving down a road with flames on both sides of the road.

Marilyne

I just watched that cute video.  When FDJ first entered the area, Mama followed him around and around, like she knew he was about to do something fun and exciting.  Sure enough, out came the toy, and she was all ready for a play session!

MarsGal

FDJ sure is a brave soul wandering around in the cat area without shoes or socks.

We love our pets, Cat or Dog.  You may not have seen this song and worth the 2 minutes.

Mary Ann

Cute song, Jack.  In my case, I have to use Cat which doesn't transpose to anything.  But I have a cat who likes to be with me, whether I like it or not (I do).  I did use to feel the same way about our dog!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Jack - Thanks for posting that video . . . it's a pleasure to watch it!  I've had many dogs and cats in my lifetime.  They Need us, and we need them! :smitten:

Patricia - Cute cartoon!  At first I couldn't figure out the last frame, but then realized what she was doing.  The ever present litter box!  ha ha

Sasha

Diane and Del Church. She was/is a very likable person. They're still sorting out the dead (getting DNA and such) and the missing. What horror.

angelface555

Sasha, that must be concerning the fires? It is horrific that they have yet a new one and the Campfire is still uncontained!
