Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Jeanne, I have had printers stop on me, ones that were working perfectly, and I would find that they were made incompatible with the computer OS I was using.  Sounds silly, I know, but it did happen.  I had to buy a new printer.  I know you have an older OS so that may not be the cause of your problem.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

MaryAnn. Now it was working O.K the other day. Been on this computer working great for a year. Even the light will not come on. Will play with it later and just get another one if still not working. Can get printer now for about what the ink is for this computer.
JeanneP

jane

Jeanne...I assume you unplugged it and waited a bit and then plugged it back in?  That sometimes works, for reasons I don't understand!

::)

RAMMEL

Also --- plug something else (a lamp) into the same outlet. Be sure it is still working.

FWIW, I recently had a problem with my printer.  It  refused to print.  Checked all connections etc. and finally determined the cause was the OLD cord.  Got a new one and printer was happy and worked for me.

JeanneP

I have check out the connections on the Printer. Just can't get it to turn on. All unplugged now.  Will try later to install again but looks like a new one needed. This one not used that much but must be about 2 years old. Another throw away item. They use to last for year.  I try to find one that just uses black ink. I don't want the Print.Scan. Copy and Fax. All that stuff. They are hard to find the ones without all that. Cost a lot more

My printer quit printing the other day, with several pieces in the print queue.  I unplugged both the cords, replugged.  That didn't work.  Shut down the computer, and rebooted.  Printer worked just fine.

Mary Ann

Jeanne, as I've written before, my printer that worked perfectly, suddenly quit and the reason was it became incompatible with my Operating System (I don't recall which OS I was using but it was MS).  I had to buy a new printer.

If you want to print only in black and white, I'd suggest a laser printer.  The cartridges cost more, but they print many copies and the printers themselves are around $100.

MaryAnn. Yes. the printer I have now is a Laser Printer. They cost a little more and the cartridges about $65 but last so much long. My prior one had colour and cost about the same and did not last at all.  You can't just keep replacing the Black in those. Have to replace both.
I will reinstall this one and see what happens.
Yesterday my ceiling fan in the dining room that I keep running all the time. It stopped running. Lights would not come one. It is wired from a switch on the DR Wall. I even call service man thinking it needed replaced. Turned it on today and working perfect.  I think this house is jinxed. Will call him Monday and tell him to hold off and I will watch it.

I remember back when the first thing that Dave <RIP>used to advise us was to reboot.  LOL  Never forgot that.

Wasn't Dave a Gem? Taught me so much years ago. So sorry when he passed away.

I spent all morning messing with things that stopped working right.

First the printer. I had it sitting on the table packed to take it to Office Depot and have them toss it away. then buy a new one. I had tried everything. But decided was going to uninstall it again. Take out cartridge , put in new paper. Plugged both cables into different  places. (Gave it a kick) and tried it again. Right now its working again. The kick must have done it.

The Ceiling fan. I cleaned it and played but it just has something wrong. I will work on a lot of things but not Electrical. So today I will go pick one up. See what the service man says on Wed. If he gets it working will return the new one.. Now to do all that needs doing before plumbing company shuts off the water lines. Hope they will not be digging up the streets again. Our area is getting pretty old now. Some streets need working on. They did about  150 ft in front of me and that took 2 months. I was the enter area. So I could get out O.K now but would mess up the rest.

Don't know how it happened to get on my Desktop W7 But I need it off.
It is Called "Search Lock" When search on the Internet a yellow Padlock shows in front of the Site Address Line.  It is really messing up how searching is . Hard getting a fast answer when using such as Google
JeanneP

Jeanne, a quick look took me here, do not know if you have Chrome.  You might also see if it is listed in add remove programs and remove it.  It may be just trying to tell you the site you are searching for has problems.

JeanneP

Jack. I saw that one also but thing is. I don't have Chrome on this computer
It sure messes up your Searching. Even when you Google it give you a run around were it was you could get a direct answer fast.

This from the site Jack listed --- Assuming you have the real "SearchLock" - uninstall it as indicated below.
Maybe it didn't work right because you are not using Chrome.

Hi GRACE99,

I am the developer of SearchLock and saw your post so I wanted to comment directly. SearchLock is a Google Chrome extension that we advertise online (it IS NOT bundled with any software). If SearchLock is on your PC it means that someone would have had to click on our ad and manually installed the Chrome extension on your computer.

We hope you are enjoying your searchlock experience. If you have any improvement ideas on SearchLock or need any help you can email our support team directly at support@searchlock.com.

If you are unhappy with SearchLock you can easily uninstall the extension by visiting our uninstall instruction page: https://www.searchlock.com/pages/uninstall. If you choose to uninstall I would love to know why so we can improve the product - please email us at support@searchlock.com and let us know.

Ssherjj's instructions will also work; however, you don't need to reset Google chrome's settings or delete the current user.

Thanks for your time,

SearchLock

Rammel.  O.K. I went into the site you found.  I don't have Chrome on this computer and on the other places it would only uninstall by chrome. I read lots of people having the same problem. Yours had a place if using Firefox which I use.  So went through it and not it comes up saying that Search Lock has gone.  Will try some places I did this morning when searching and see if that Lock shows up again.
It was really a awful SEARCH ENGINE as they called it. Must have snook on under something I had been searching for .
Thanks.  Are you still using a W7?
JeanneP

JeanneP

Rammel.

I am back. Went into some of the things I was searching for past week and it has gone.  All come up the same fast way as I always found them. The Yellow Padlock gone and Just the little green saying Google Search.  Thank goodness.
Just to much coming up now on the internet that have Advertisements  That stop it from searching unless you give them info. that is what was bad on the Safe Search thing.  They did not have a X to get out of them.  Now the Adds do.

I generally use Win-XP, but I have a laptop that is Win-7.  I don't use the laptop much and have prevented it from going to Win-10

When you do a fix or uninstall it is usually good to do a restart. I also think temp internet files should be deleted.

I just can't get excited about going to W10 . A new computer is waiting for me in Texas if I ever get down to pick it up. It is W10.  Now I just don't like a lap top. Gave mine to GS. Love the Ipad and my Amazon Fire Tablet and so along with this Desktop with W7 I am happy.  Also have a Ms XP in the closet still. Just have to plug in in ever I need to.

Anyone using  Gmail for their Emailing.  Mine was so funny when I turned it on today. I had no incoming E-M. But then a window come up showing the New Better GMail. that they would be going to.  I may have been stupid and clicked on it.  Got no further. I shut down the Internet. Ran Cleanup. first then restarted my computer. Now I see that E-M now coming back in my usual place.  So weird.  Strange things going on on computers these days

Will see what happens.Did anyone else see it?

JeanneP   I use windows live mail, but had odd things going on with my Windows 10, every thing fine now, here is what I posted in the Windows 10 discussion. It include a link to Microsoft help.

I have posted in the past that I have had no issues with Windows 10.  Following the last update, I began having a problem with Edge.  It would load repeatedly with the logo lining up across the task bar, and I had to go to Task Master to stop it running.   I became aware that Edge was my default browser, so changed it to Internet Explorer. Had no further problem but decided to go to Microsoft Answer Desk.   They scheduled a tech to contact me, and he spent almost an hour making adjustments.  (I gave them permission to take over the pc and just sat and watched)    Would only do this with Microsoft direct!

Unable to correct I was told they would have a Level 2 tech contact me to handle.   I had to wait for a scheduled call, no problem.  He then called and after traveling about my pc, it appears he decided to reinstall windows 10, the 14393 build.  This was a long process, he spent about 45 min. then told me it would take considerable time.  At that point he left and for around 2 hours the computer reinstalled, shutting down several times.   I am now back in business, no issues, but will leave Internet Explorer 11 as my default  (I use google search)

Hope this does not happen to you, but I must add that all the work done by the "Answer Desk" was without charge.

Here is their link.  They have phone and chat help, but I talk too much and type too slow. :)

I use gmail exclusively, and I've not had any problems, nor have I seen what you described, Jeanne.

I use gmail exclusively, too, with no problems.  I also have a year-old laptop that came with Windows 10 installed on it.  I use Edge as my OS, and have had no problems with any of it.

I had a similar issue with Yahoo email. It was trying to get me to have all my mail come through Yahoo.

I use Yahoo, Gmail, and Outlook for different types of email, and I've noticed there seems to be a push by several email providers to get the customer to have other kinds of email routed to the same company.

JeanneP

My Gmail is now a mess.  I think maybe I messed up the other day when I hit the button that said. Try the New Gmail.  Then next time turn computer on. clicked on my old E-M account. it had been cancelled out and this new one installed. Now having to give a new name and Password. Messed up me getting from the Comcast and the Yahoo E-M also.  The new one is so Technical.  Wish was a way I could bring the old one back. But If I try like a new person just the New one allows you to join.  Spent hours playing with it.
I can now get E-M under a different E-M name and Password. Have to let people know.  Just should not be curious and be pressing buttons.
JeanneP

JeanneP

I am searching to the place where I can remove my  E-M address out and replace with the new one.  Think I am getting goggle eyed. Can't fine it.
