If you haven't already disabled Cortana as useless and a resource hog; here's help from "How to Geek."

"Cortana in Windows 10 gives you a handy search box that’s always at your fingertips. Unfortunately, it forces you to use Microsoft Edge and Bing. Here’s how to make Cortana search using Google and your preferred web browser.

By default, Cortana will always launch searches in the Edge browser. You used to be able to pick which browser you wanted to search in, but Microsoft closed this loophole. Fortunately, a third-party, open-source app called EdgeDeflector can fix this. Start by downloading the .exe from here and launch it. It will install itself in the background.

I just cleaned up my contact list in Yahoo mail.  Feel pretty proud of myself.  LOL

angelface555

I wish I could do mine, it's overwhelming. I look through that and think of that film with Haley Joe Osman or something. The one that was called or else had the tag line, "I see dead people?"

I'm proud of you Joan! ðŸ...

wjoan

Thanks Angel.  Difficult to do when one is almost blind.

angelface555

Mine is the duplicates or dupes of folks I have no memory of but I've got two or three addresses for those unknowns!

That would be hard to do with sight issues.

CallieOK

I wish I could get rid of Contacts that were put on my list from Facebook.  Don't need them and can't make them go away.

wjoan

Calllie, just click on Contacts and when they come up, delete the ones you want to.

CallieOK

Joan, the ones from Facebook showed up automatically from my Friends list.  I didn't put them in the e-mail list and their e-mail addresses don't show.  When I put my mouse over one, the choices are Add To Favorites Move To and Interact with Contact.
The ones I correspond with are already in the regular e-mail Contact List and I won't ever contact the others except on Facebook.

Tried moving them into a Group but they just Copy and are still on the main list.

Not a huge problem -just annoying.

wjoan

Callie, maybe you need to turn them off from Facebook??

SCFSue

Help, I just had an e-mail from my Norton Security program telling me Seniors and Friends is not safe today.  Has anyone else received this message?  I might have put Seniors&Friends  and this could have been the problem.

Sue, McAfee regularly tells me the site isn't safe. Its not us but the software running the site is not fully secured.

CallieOK

AngelFace,  the Facebook addies aren't on my phone contacts (and I don't have an Iphone).  They're on my pc e-mail server contact list.

Joan,  don't know how to turn off their Facebook e-mails and don't want to un-friend them.

It's annoying but I can manage.

angelface555

Callie you need to go to settings on your facebook page, scroll through and delete or edit them to turn off them sending FB info to your email account. You can Google how to do this on your computer or laptop, not just for a smart phone.

wjoan

Callie, there is ONE setting on Facebook where it ask if you want to have your friends in your email.  I chose no.  I cannot remember exactly where it is but remember seeing it.  You will just have to check all settings on FB or call them.

angelface555

Callie, on the top right of your upper Facebook tab, fifth one over, is a wide downward facing arrow. Click on the arrow and then click on settings which is the 8th one down from the top. Clicking down the list, you will see and click on your notifications. That brings up all your email settings for you to delete and or edit.

maryz

Callie, on FB, on a post by a particular "friend" (not a  "share"), to the right of the name, there's a faint down-arrow.  When you click on that, you'll get a menu.  One of your choices is "hide posts from this party, but don't 'unfriend'".  If you click on that, you will no longer get posts from that individual, but they won't know it.  That might accomplish at least part of your purpose.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

CallieOK

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I truly appreciate each one.

Off to play Bridge today.  As Scarlett said,  "I'll think about it tomorrow".   ;)

One of the reasons I don't do face book is that 2 of my  beloved daughter-in-law had a tiff about a post one of them resented.  Not a happy situation!  Also, I don't like people I don't know (perhaps a friend of a friend) knowing my business.

I have a Yahoo. E-M address on my desktop. Use to use them but no longer. Once in awhile someone will send a E-M to it.  Then for some reason lots of Facebook people showing up in there Dozens a day  I finely just put SPAM to delete. Seems all are one now.  I just don't know how Facebook works that well. I go in just to see what family doing.  All seem to be using just Facebook and Texting now.  Very few will send E-M.  I hate both of those things.

My Facebook page is strictly edited by me and so is the access.

Mary Ann

I am not on Facebook, Twitter or any other of them, so if anyone wants to contact me online, it must be by e-mail.  Tom is on Facebook to keep tabs on his relatives and if something interesting is going on, he forwards it to me.  Otherwise, I am in the dark, and I don't mind

"Double Agent Malware Infects Security Solutions

A malware attack dubbed Double Agent has been discovered by security vendor, Cybellum.  It is reported, although this attack has been discovered, it has not been yet witnessed in the public.

Double Agent effectively uses a 15 year-old vulnerability within the Windows operating system.  The security gap is associated with Microsoft Application Verifier, which can be found on all Windows PCs ranging from XP to Windows 10.  What is troubling being, by gaining access to Microsoft Application Verifier, this malware variant has access to all of the legitimate programs on your PC.  Since Double Agent has access to this platform, it has been able to successfully alter 14 different anti-virus solutions by adding malware to their platforms.  The 14 impacted security solutions include:

AVG
Malwarebytes
Avast
Avira
Bitdefender
Trend Micro
Comodo
ESET
F-Secure
Kaspersky
McAfee
Panda
Quick Heal
Norton
All of the AV programs have had over 90 days to patch the vulnerability; however, out of these 14 programs that have been compromised, only four have been effectively patched.  According to Network World, those are AVG, Kaspersky, Trend Micro and Malwarebytes.

Although this malware variant could infiltrate various other programs that are verified by Microsoft, it does not.  It chooses security solutions because they are trusted by PC users, and have access to the entire PC.  It’s essentially the golden key."

Thanks, Angel!  I'm glad I have AVG and Malwarebytes!  It's becoming so hard to keep up with all of these malware things.

jane

MarsGal

I've got Malwarebytes and Avast. Interesting to note that Avast bought AVG last year.

The US House just passed a bill eliminating any Internet privacy protocols. The bill now goes to Trump. What this means is that the local ISP that you use or any company, corporation, entity that you deal with or come into online contact with, has the legal right to sell any and all of your information to anyone they want to...

RAMMEL

Judging by the amount of spam emails I get it appears it's already that way.  Sort of like the "Do Not Call" law.
It's the WINDMILLS
