I posted a photo in the discussion just to show results.  Do not know if you can include, say 3 photos, might be too large, but no problem with doing multiple posts.  Appreciate the help.   I have no need to store in Gallery and was having a time trying to figure it out.

jane

Jack...I notified people that I had helped with their avatars or photos [by putting them in my photobucket account] so they could post here and elsewhere that I no longer would be using photobucket and that their avatar may disappear without warning.  I don't know what Photobucket is going to do to enforce their NO third party sharing since that's what they use to brag about. Maybe others will pay that outrageous price...but not me.

jackwv

Jane  I agree 100%   I am going to delete most photos, never thought of the avatar that I did not use, hope it causes no problems.  No more photobucket for me.

angelface555

Okay, I am no longer a card maker on site but I use the full-size photo and I post one photo at a time as it can get stubborn otherwise. I use Paint Shop Pro or Zoner or ON1 to resize and compress my photos but there are also a number of very good free or web linked programs out there that will resize and compress your photos correctly for you and this website. Just be sure to go to the program's website, do not use a third party downloader and read all reviews, not just those planted by the seller slash company.

jackwv

I have used this site for years without a problem.   It works on line, I check the size limit to 640 and usually check best, but if the result is over around 140 I go back and pick better.    Really, for viewing on line, no problem with lower kb.

jane

Photobucket cut off my 3rd party sharing this morning.

Thanks for the link to that site, Jack!

jackwv

Jane I have also learned that unlike a link from Photobucket it you use the attachment feature below your post, you can then delete the photo if you want from your computer.  For example I have a large photo, resize it and "save as" to retain the large photo.  I then have both on the computer.  I attach the resized one, and then delete it from my computer keeping the original one.

Not familiar with the gallery and at this point see no need to use.

jane

I don't know either, but I don't post pictures here anyway.

I so agree with this from one of my regular emails;

"A.Word.A.Day
with Anu Garg

They have found a cure for cancer. And diabetes and heart disease and AIDS. If you haven’t heard about them, it’s only because no one cared enough to forward you these cures they themselves received in a forwarded email, in a WhatsApp message, or on Facebook.

When I receive such messages I try to tell the sender that when they find a cure for cancer you’ll hear about it on the front page of The New York Times (or in the most-respected newspaper around you), not in a forwarded email.

No, fasting is not going to cure anyone of cancer. Drinking two glasses of water first thing in the morning is not a cure of diabetes. Taking papaya leaf juice is not a cure for AIDS. And, no, there’s no pharma conspiracy to suppress these magic cures.

But sometimes it feels that, while everyone else is trying to save humanity by sharing these easy remedies, I’m the official naysayer in the room. It’s sisyphean. It’s tiring. So I propose the following as the first law of the Internet:

Garg’s Law: Do not forward anything you’ve received online without verifying it yourself.

I suggest ISPs require new customers to sign and date (in front of two witnesses) that they agree with the law before they can get online. First violation would mean one has to be off the Net for a week. Second violation: a month. Three strikes and you’re out.

Until that happens (and until they find a cure for the common cold), enjoy this week’s five words related to medicine."

Another topic I'm gotten quite annoyed with is the new constant stream of emails telling me off for emailing them or posting photos to them or sending them unsigned notes. The irony was the one I received that actually had the insert first name here in parenthesis still on it! Also receiving several from different names daily has been a clue. I would say how can people be so dumb as to click on or open these but the sheer amount showing up in my email shows me that yes, people are that dumb. Enough that stupid people like the one forgetting to insert the first name here, are getting in on the act.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I agree with you (and Ann Garg) on both complaints.  It seems when I get one e-mail about "anything", I receive a couple more.  Some of them I check on Snopes, but for most, I've given up.  And I don't forward those kinds of e-mail!

Patricia and Mary Ann,  add me to the list of those who wish such things would be outlawed!  It absolutely amazes me how many of my otherwise knowledgeable friends "share" such information.

I'm also getting very tired of being tracked so "they" can provide "ads I might be interested in". I guarantee....I will NOT!

Mary Ann

Callie, I recently looked at a chair lift ad.  Now I get ads for chair lifts.  And I even clicked on a link for something that someone put here and I get ads for that (forget what it was).  The Washington Big Brother isn't the only one watching!

Everyone is watching. I once wanted to share some info on a Ostler toaster slash converter oven I had ordered. I couldn't show the one I had without sending along my account info so I found one on the web which was basically the same only a different color and style. Now everywhere I go, I see that toaster oven in an advert on that site.

It is very frustrating as well that almost everywhere I go anymore, the site is blocked because I am using an adblocker and the site wants to bombard me with stupid adverts. I normally just backtrack, but when it is a site such as the New Yorker or The Atlantic, I am stuck. Another advert that must be very frustrating and I believe is illegal is when you click on a news story that says Meryl Streep is secretly married. A friend emailed this to me and I emailed back that she has been married for over thirty or so years. Oh no, my friend tells me. She recently got secretly married to Robert Redford. I say back that I wonder how her actual husband feels about that?

She, today tells me some singer got fired from his job over an affair with an actress who uses a certain face cream. All of this gossip isn't fake gossip reporting, but adverts disguised as fake gossip to get you to buy the face cream or potion or whatever else they're selling. I am ashamed of both the to me illegal advertising and the "friend" who refuses to believe me when I tell her it's a hoax. This woman also constantly fills out forms for "store cards and bonuses." And then calls me because her computer, (For no reason); suddenly is infected yet again!!

MaryTX

I use Mozilla Firefox 99% of the time.  I use "Adblock Plus", and "uBlock Origin".  One thing I like about the uBlock is if you go to a company website, it blocks it but gives you the option of blocking it completely or just blocking it temporarily, so you can look at the page.

I don't know for sure which one is doing the trick but I seldom if any get any ads.  I don't know if Edge or Chrome or any other browers use them.  Wish I could fine a adblocker for Facebook!  Those ads are really annoying.

I use Yahoo email and use "Webmail Ad Blocker.  I don't get any of those stupid ads on Yahoo either.

Mary Ann,  I've noticed the same thing about many products.  The ads sometimes the very next time I open my server home page.

Mary,  I totally agree about those stupid Facebook Ads - and the "greetings" that call me by name!!!!!  I also wish I could block forever the pop-ups for "Friends You Might Know" etc. etc.
Not sure I could keep up with the AdBlock programs.   I'd probably overshoot my limit the first time out!!

Patricia, I've seen that comment about Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.  No way would I click on anything like that - but I did wonder if it referred to movie roles coming up  (and promptly decided it didn't).

Now I have a question.      Cox has removed the search engine from my home page and wants me to install Google Chrome.   My browser is IE.    If I install Google, will I lose IE and have to redo all my Favorites as well as my web mail program?
Fortunately, I have Google on my Tablet but I don't have Favorites or Files, etc. on it and don't want to put them there.    It's annoying to have to use the Tablet to search for something connected with things on my PC.

Mary Ann

I use Firefox and I have Adblock (I don't know about the Plus) and I really don't get any ads during my browsing.  I do get some chair lift ads at the side of my screen occasionally and I know it's because I looked up chair lifts.  When I look at MLive (Michigan news), I get a notice that the advertisers pay for the site and I should do away with Adblock.  Of course, I click on the X and go on my way.

Meryl Streep has been married to Don Gummer, an American sculptor since 1978. I looked it up when I was trying to convince Christiana of the bogus gossip's adverts. Those are some company's attempt to sell their cosmetics by using fake gossip items. It's all just another scam in a sea of them. I have used Adblock Plus since the early days and usually X on out. But now when it is something I want to read such as The Atlantic, I am stuck and I hate it.

You can add as many browsers as you want together but it takes up so much of your computer memory. I dislike Edge and Cortana which is only Microsoft's Bing search engine with a voice. Edge, Bing, and Windows Defender are all low rated but folks like the convenience I understand. IE is fine but Microsoft is trying to change its users to Edge. Chrome is the most popular and Firefox is second. I use Chrome and I use Opera as it is a small but spare browser and well rated. You need to investigate for what your criteria are and look for customer reviews, not company sponsored reviews but the ones that are honest. I wouldn't use Chrome except it has features I cannot get with Opera alone. I used Firefox until it got wonky and like Yahoo was getting spam and Trojans.

I had Outlook email until Opera, Chrome, and Firefox all would not go there saying it had identity theft going on. Of course, Edge took me right there. I have closed that account after quite a hassle with Microsoft and it takes them ninety days to delete that account and sends you daily notifications to fix your Outlook settings. Then if you try to go there to turn off notifications, it tries to reopen that account so it is another Microsoft game. I use Gmail as my Microsoft account. Outlook is supposed to be deleted at the end of September.

I use System Mechanic from IOLO and have since 2000. It is a PC cleaner, firewall, and antivirus. I use Hitman Pro for my second opinion antivirus and have liked both for a long time. However, I read the reviews and would change if needed. There are as usual both free and paid versions. Some of the free antivirus programs are three times as good as some of the paid versions such as Avast and Norton. Malwarebytes is another good free program for a second opinion. Kaspersky Lab is one of the highest rated antivirus programs. However, Putin had the head of that company killed and nationalized the program so use at your own risk.

Here is one company's review of the Top Ten programs of 2017, but it has some I have never heard of and cannot find the name of the sponsor of the web page.

Here is a Google page on antivirus including some questioned info on the new, Kaspersky company;

Thanks, Patricia.   Almost TMI but I think I ferreted out the answer I was looking for.  :)

MarsGal

Angel, where did you get your information about the head of Kaspersky being killed by Putin?

The last info I saw was that Kaspersky's computer incidents investigation team leader and two others were arrested in 2016 and charged with treason for supposedly passing state secrets to Verisign back in 2010. I haven't seen any info on the outcome of the trial or whether or not it is still ongoing. The US has banned the use of Kaspersky Labs products on government computers and warned US citizens not to use their products because of their election interference and close ties to Russian intelligence.

It was published sometime back in Euronews. They did not come right out and say he was killed but Putin had tried to buy the company, he refused and sometime later was charged and imprisoned. They said he became ill and died. When he was charged and imprisoned, he lost control of his company. Russian leadership uses Russian and East European crime syndicates as a matter of course. It was the company founder and developer who died.

Thanks Angel, but as far as I can tell, Eugene Kaspersky are still alive and running the company. There were three other co-founders: Alexey De-Monderik is still with the company as a corporate advisor, Natalya Kastersky is now President of the Infowatch Group, and Vadim Bogdanov, who I can find no info on except that he was still named a co-owner in 2007. There is a Vladim Bodanov listed as founder and board director of Alois Industires OU out of Estonia. Don't know if it is the same guy.

Okay, you may have been thinking of Rusian Stoyanov who is/was a senior advisor at Kasperksy. He along with Sergei Mikhailov, head of Center for Information Security (part of FSB), and Dmitry Dokuchayev (aka: Forb), a hacker. All three are charged with treason. On Dec. 26, Oleg Erovinkin (KGB General) mysteriously died. First reports said he was murdered, shot in the head; later the story was amended to being under investigation. He apparently was suspected of being a leaker. https://qz.com/898168/three-russian-cyber-arrests-one-suspicious-death-and-a-new-twist-in-the-us-election-hack/

This is all very interesting. Anyone interested in reading a fictional spy story in current time, read Red Sparrow
and its sequels by Jason Matthews, then you will know why I find this news interesting. Matthews and his wife are retired CIA. BTW, the movie is scheduled to release on March 2, 2018. Hope it is as good as the books.

From Dashlane, a highly rated password manager. How safe are your passwords, really? Remember Yahoo's problems that sent it into bankruptcy?

"Methodology
From July 5 â€" July 14, Dashlane researchers examined 37 popular consumer websites and 11 popular enterprise websites against five password security criteria:

Does the website require users to have passwords that are 8 or more characters?

When creating a new account on each website, Dashlane researchers attempted to create passwords less than eight characters irrespective of the sites’ stated minimum password requirements.

Does the website require users to have passwords with a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols?

When creating a new account on each website, Dashlane researchers attempted to create passwords with all letters (“aaaaaa”) or numbers (“111111”).

Does the website provide an on-screen password assessment meter to show users how strong their password is?

When creating a new account on each website, we wanted to see if the site provided any notification, such as a meter or color-coded bar, they were credited as providing an assessment. Sites that only provided confirmed password length or where requirements were met did not receive credit.

Does the website allow 10 incorrect login attempts without providing additional security (CAPTCHA, account lockout, 2-Factor, etc.)?"

I only have space on this Armoire to fit a 17 inch screen for the desktop. it is fine for somethings but on the Web pages I go into then I can only get half the screen (right side to show) left side when on such as Facebook etc then the other8 inch is taken up with such as information on the person  or ads. How can I make it a full screen? eliminating all that shows on that side. It only does it on Web.
JeanneP

Jakkims

Jeanne, this may help but it depends on how good your eyesight is. Hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard and tap the minus key on the number section at the right end of the keyboard. This should make everything on your web page smaller, so you should have more fitting on to the screen. If you tap it too many times and find it too hard to read just tap the plus button to increase the size again.

Screen resolution will also come into play here.
