Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Same kind of warning that popped up on my Firefox the other week.

If I see a warning like those I go to Malabytes homepage first or to How to Geek's homepage and they usually have up to the date info on these scams. Failing that, I'd go to the browser's actual official home page before doing anything and I wouldn't click on the red X of these notices, as they are prepared for that. I would go instead to a control alt delete which is a good habit to get into anyway.

Website browsers, operating systems, and other legitimate businesses never send you that type of notice which is a tip-off. I would also wonder how it got on my PC.

Anyone else notice how slow the recommended Windows 10 Photos App loads?
Any suggestions or solutions?

Do you know where your antivirus company comes from?

https://techtalk.pcpitstop.com/2015/05/18/where-is-your-antivirus-software-made/

Almost all major antivirus programs come from outside the US.

Can someone tell me what this means and how to correct it...on my windows vista computer...in the task bar..it says. "No audio output device is installed....thank you CC

JeanneP

I was thinking that meant you speaker not hooked up.  I could be wrong.
JeanneP

angelface555

It means you have no speaker or sound system hooked up to your computer so you have no sound. You need to have an auxiliary sound system plugged into your computer.

Cottoncandy

Thanks..my grandson..must have unplugged it....accidentally or on purpose...I do not know...since he isn't here now and I don't know how to reconnect it...I guess I'm without sound...CC

maryz

LOL - I keep my sound turned off in any case (unless I'm skyping with my daughter).  8^)

I'm sorry, it doesn't show up in new, spam or deleted. I'll send one to you.

angelface555

YES!! I had to delete what I had as it wasn't the same wording as yours, and then I deleted the two extra spaces. Thank you again, Rick!

Don't know what happened but I need to change the width of my screen on this W7 computer. Just clicking on the square in the upper right corner not getting somethings that come in showing over on the right side. Instance. I got from Amazon their E-M for a book I put on my Kindle.  Just will not show the price listed. Some other things doing same thing.  Just can't see amount due.
Will keep playing.
I can only use a 17 inch screen on my desk as its in A Armoire.  (Hate it.) But it just does keep my mess hidden away.

Jeanne,
Try Googling - Change screen resolution on Win 7.

I went to the Opera browser last week because I was having issues with Edge, Chrome and Firefox! I even had a computer remote checkup on my machine and he thought it might have been Chrome.

On the link above yours, they talk about issues with Chrome.

halkel

You know I thought I was still in the loop on this computer forum, but I wasn't.  I am now.

Angel I updated CCleaner and it downloaded Chrome even though I told it not to.  It also downloaded some malware and corrupted Firefox, my primary browser, and I had a mess.  I subscribed to "HelloTech" for 7 bucks a month and let their tech clean it up.  Except the next day I got hit again with some malware, suspect he overlooked something, a different tech went in and cleaned out the goop.

Angel, he used some components of Malwarebyte I had never heard of but it did the trick.  Computer is running good.

Hal; I have Malwarebytes and it said no issues, meanwhile my computer was going nuts. The guy spent two hours roving my computer, shutting down Chrome, Firefox and fixing Edge which was frozen. Windows Defender also said there were no issues during this time?!? Evidently, the issue came from something in Chrome and I had no downloads since two weeks ago. It originated in Microsoft's outlook email and Chrome. I also had the tech close out outlook. I have had nothing like this, so widespread and disruptive. Now using the Opera Browser only and just gmail, no yahoo or outlook any longer, my computer has stabilized.I don't know exactly what occurred, but no Windows Defender and no longer any Microsoft outlook email!

I used your company and they charged me $79.00....

MarsGal

Interesting Angel. The last time I had problems I was getting constantly getting dropped from my wireless router. I couldn't find whether it was my laptop or the router itself. Both only a little over six months old. Finally, after one of Microsoft's monthly updates, the problem just disappeared. So it wasn't my computer hardware, it was the previous Microsoft update that did the damage. Figures.

I don't use Chrome because it generally comes with PUPs, mostly from Conduit (often used by advertisers). I still use Firefox, but I noticed over the last couple of years that it sometimes gets slow and freezes after some of their updates. i have not tried Opera or Safari.

halkel

Angel, They charged you a "the one time" charge for cleaning the computer.
Look at this link to see what I am talking about.

https://www.hellotech.com/plans

If I were you, and you want the monthly plan, I would go back and ask them for some credit from their last foray into your computer.

I am getting to the age when I don't have the patience, inclination or desire to fight the old battles on the computer.  I would just as soon let some young techie get into the computer and fix the problem.

There is a previous post of mine, http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/software/best-web-browser-2017-3635255/

It talks about various browsers and I should have read more deeply. Opera has been around for over 20 years. It is good, has a lot of fans, but not all of the buzz or tools of Chrome or Firefox. I should have also listened when both Chrome and Firefox originally warned me about going to Microsoft's Outlook email saying it was unsecured and someone could possibly steal my information, I just used Edge to get to my email there.

Edge itself is full of ads and is rift for pups, etc. Windows defender is poorly rated but you can't get rid of it if you use Windows. You can turn it off, but Microsoft, (Read what they admit there!); will turn it back on so you have to keep turning it off in settings. At least with Cortana which is simply Microsoft's Bing search engine with a personality and a huge resource and memory hog, you can turn it off and take it off your task bar. In Windows, you cannot delete either program permanently.

Safari isn't updated or protected for Windows by Apple any longer, you are on your own with that Windows browser as Apple admits it didn't take off like they hoped. I had also temporarily taken off my System Mechanics to try McFee and discovered that McFee and Malawarebytes can be overrun or overwhelmed. The only present issue with Opera is it doesn't support Grammarly, a spelling and grammar app I prefer.

Hal, I have a short budget with the classes I'm taking and am already full of monthly charges in other areas. I went back to System Mechanic by IOLO. I went 16 years previously with it and never had an outbreak. Not even a sniffle!

angelface555

This is what the tech said about the Chrome Browser.

"I would like to inform you that chrome browser is derived from open source browser chromium and its source code is available on the Internet. As the information is available, it is easy for a spammer to find the loophole and give pop-up on the browser. I can suggest you to use Firefox, Opera or even the  Edge browser."

Its also interesting that Firefox and Opera both will not take me to Microsoft outlook email. All of them warn of unguarded coding and that I would be vulnerable to identity theft. I had closed my account because of the incident earlier and am only using Opera and only Firefox because of certain features only available on Firefox. It is getting harder and harder to trust anymore.

One interesting item is I just found out that my Kindle 8 Fire has a functioning Alexa account! I have yet to try it out however. The account is free on certain Amazon tablets, kindles, etc.

Angel, my Kindle is an earlier model so I don't think I have (or can get Alexa) but I will take a look. My Kindle came with the Silk browser which I don't use very often.

Interesting that the tech mentioned that Chrome is an Open Source based browser, but didn't mention that Firefox and Opera are also Open Source based. Chrome, Firefox, and Opera consistently get the highest ratings among all the various browsers available (or tested at any rate) by the various testing groups. The rank varies a little depending on for what and how the browsers are tested.  I don't like Microsoft's Edge, but I do, on occasion, use Microsoft Outlook which gets fairly high ratings.
