Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Buy a Mac. Not so many problems and the company is NICE!!! Microsoft could care less about the customer. They are in the right!

Mac does trials THEN when kinks are worked out they send out to customer. Microsoft uses their customer for their trials.

I am hearing rumors about a class action suit against Microsoft for their latest fiasco. The one that nailed me. OH! The CEO has not had the decency to reply to my letter.

JeanneP

I need to by W10 also but hate to leave the W7.  True the Mac's are good but just to expensive for what I do if I got a laptop. Don't care for them. I already have a IPad and a Amazon Fire.  I will just get a HP desktop for about $450 Stick with MS .Have to learn again if using a Mac.

Jeanne...I think the same way....if you go shopping for one...let me know what you bought...I have an IPad...and IPhone....but still like to get another desktop...don't need nothing fancy or expensive...I expect my vista to crash any day...and also outdated so no updates...need the critical ones...CC

JeanneP and CC   I still prefer the desk top.   When I was looking for an ipad I purchased an IMac.   Liked it but trouble learning so gave it to my granddaughter.   I have a Gateway tower   now made by Acer.  Purchased it Jan 2011, have a emachine monitor purchased Dec 09 and an old keyboard still working but the letters wearing off.   Were I looking now I would not buy an all in one, but a new tower and possibly a keyboard.  The towers are very reasonable now and loaded with windows 10 that has given me no problems.  While Target, Walmart and others have good prices my personal preference is to go to Best Buy and do a hands on with a particular make.  Again, no problems with my old machine and will not replace till it breaks down.  Would then be happy to join you in the hunt.

Not into gaming or touch screen so just want to keep it simple.

If you want to get into "old", I have a Windows 98 that still works and I've kept it because I have some small floppies that fit it and nothing else.  I will say I haven't used it in  years.  My main computer is my HP laptop of a few years - it has Windows 10.

W98 was my favourite. I still have about 5 of the new never installed and also some EXPa. Have a xp desktop in closet. Still using a w7desktop . Use a iPad also.
Jack. I will get another desktop soon. Go get it from staples as a man there will set it up. I still like using big screen. I must have about 5 new key boards around here but still use a old Ms. As it has big letters. Some wore out. I have a packet af new ones that ii should take time to attach to a new key board. Can buy for 3.95.  Things seem to never break down for me. I think my t.v now 7 years. I have a electric clock in the bathroom still running that someone gave me 1966 a Big Ben. I sure need to do a big clean out.
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP  I like Staples, should have mentioned them along with Best Buy  Let us know what you end up with.

Cottoncandy

So Jack...my keyboard and monitor is good...so you saying I could just replace the tower? Instead of buying all computer all together ? CC

jackwv

CC see what JeanneP gets.  I do not like the all in ones, touch screen.   I would just get a tower and you may not need the monitor or keyboard, but a large monitor is nice.  Would check with Best Buy or Staples.  Just my opinion.

Now I don't think that when you buy a desktop now that the Keyboard, Mouse ,Monitor come together like they use to. Now they do have the ones were all built in so no tower. I don't think I would want that.  I can only use a 17 inch Monitor because mine is inside a cabinet with doors. I sometimes wish I just had my corner desk back. But now I can hide the mess better.
Looks like our Gmail has made a lot of changes. Lot different now. I just read a few emails but need to get into it and figure what they have done. Hope not as bad as what Yahoo did. Never did figure theirs out. They are saying that FBook going to make big changes also.  I don't use that very much so not to worried. Just sort of read what friends and family doing and see photo's. Never write to much in there.
Looks like a storm coming. Weather man never mentioned that.

Jeanne..I just changed from yahoo mail to gmail....I have an old gmail account I would like to delete but don't know how..may as on computer forum....I got off Facebook..for awhile..but will get back on to follow my kids and grandkids...it seems a few get hacked..I need to think of a strong password....CC

I have had Yahoo for 20 years or so and the only problem I have had is when they switch to the "new look".  I told them no they and they arbitrarily switched me.  I switched back and not very politely told them what I thought of the "new look" :). There was a time when I started getting alot of spam.  They must have improved their filter as that hasn't been a problem for a long time.

There was one site I could not get into with Yahoo for some reason so I opened a Gmail account.  After I took care of my business I never used it again.  My sister has had problem with Gmail since she first got it for some reason.

MaryTX, I also didn't like the new look. Like you they eventually switched me anyway.  I switched back a couple of times before I couldn't get back to the old look anymore. I rarely used my Yahoo email because of all the spam.

I signed up for a GMail account, but decided against using it because of all the noise about them tracking you, etc. I tried to close the account but had lots of trouble doing so. Last year I switched to FIOS just about the time they dropped servicing email accounts. Oddly, Comcast allowed me to continue using my email account there, free, even though I don't have their service anymore. One more year of FIOS and I am likely to switch back to Comcast. Unlike others, I have nothing but high praise for their customer service.

Google,(Chrome, and Gmail's owning company); tracks and keeps records of everything you do. This is true.

However, so does Microsoft internet systems, as well as Fox, and Opera browsers. Apple also stores all records of its users. These are listed in the user's agreements of the companies, sites, apps, etc. This had been reported extensively in many tech sites last year. I use a VPN which is supposed to be private browsing, but I'm sure that Microsoft and Google keep track of me anyway.

Cottoncandy

It looks like we are tracked..no matter what we use...google...yahoo..Firefox..hot mail.....CC

I have shifted to the Windows Mail App that came with Windows 10.  I watch what I post and a simple program for my needs.

JeanneP

I didn't like the new Yahoo and so quit using it. I also had the gmail acct at the same time. I have been playing today with the New GMail and really are some changes.  Now I don't think you can disconnect from any of them. Just stop using and they seem to fade out.
Now I have had Comcast for years but never have been able to get my EMail account with them to work. Spent hours on the phone with them. Just gave up using. Now my Apple account still using that Comcast account when I buy books and it seems to go through to my Comcast E-M acct. or if Comcast send me one I receive it but never get one to go through that I try sending. We never did have problems years ago when MS had their Email. Do they still have it?
JeanneP

MS or Microsoft, the one Jack uses is called Outlook or Windows Mail App altho the MS mail app program also uses any email you're using. Outlook has also recently gone through a revamp.

I’ve had gmail accounts for years and no problems.  I think everybody tracks you...from the grocery store or wherever with their little card to scan, to thing you look up online, etc.  I gave up worrying about it.  I don’t care if they track what I look at buying or medical issues I read about.   I’m not looking at illegal stuff or anything out of the ordinary.

Jane...that's true....I quit worrying about it to....CC

Jane I agree, it is unavoidable but just the general details of your life are enough for scammers and or identity theft, to build on and they are routinely sold in corners of the Web. It's not just you but also family or friends or those who may hold records on you. The latest hit has been the subscription service information on Microsoft's Office 365. No word yet on what ransom they're asking.

I use an antivirus that is highly rated, a Malware killer, (separate); a VPN, and keep everything updated and my computer regularly cleaned. I have a 4T external drive that has the majority of my information on it and it is only plugged in while downloading or uploading. I subscribe to various actual tech sites, not ones such as Komando, keep up with the news and I still could be hijacked tomorrow by a new version but at least I've done what I can.

wjoan

I had Yahoo mail for many many years until they gave us the "new look".  Hated that and swit6ched to Gmail about 2 years ago.  Been happy with Gmail and love their  spam control.  Now I use the Yahoo account for when I shop on line.  LOL   Tis a good place for that.  LOL

JeanneP

I am noticing that now on my Home line phone that these Silent calls and Spam calls are now coming in on Weekends also. I had 3 on Sat. and 2 today. Sunday. Some late at night also. A few are getting on to my Mobile phone now.
The other day I just checked on line to find a certain name car and withing 10 min. I got 3 car places call. Same when you check Insurance companies.  There is no way now we can not be tracked down. I just do not do as much on the Internet like did years past. Just you don't donate on line now. If you do   will get your mail box full of people asking for donations. Even from the ones that have been out for years.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Jeanne, I don't make a lot of charity donations, but to those I do donate, I give a bit more.  I make my donations from my bank and so far I have not had requests because of those donations.  I used to give $5 donations to all of the favorite charities and I still get requests from them, but I have been more selective about the places where I donate, but also how I donate.

The robocalls on my cell phone really increased, as they have for everyone, according to the news.  I've found that blocking them on the cell phone has really cut down on the repeats.

I need to find out where I can get around having to put in a password everytime I logon to my laptop.  Nobody else here uses it, and it's a nuisance.

jackwv

I use Windows Defender that comes with Windows 10.   On occasion I will click to check if any issues, but pleased with results.  The screen usually comes up with all check marks but on several occasions I have clicked when they are doing a scan.  This photo shows dots under the virus and firewall, and they are moving while doing the scan.  When completed in the second photo you will see check marks at the top.   I do not use the family options section.

Jane, check your settings. You need to check your computer brand, personal computer settings, your browser, and any extensions enabled on your computer. If in doubt, use a search engine to learn how to find out how. Your password setting will be in one of these.

About those robo calls, this tech site has some good advice;
