Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Thank you, Bubble.  Are you over your jet lag yet?

Thanks, MP.  I just couldn't remember what other User name she had.  She was so good in the SN Books and Literature Forum.  She obviously knew her profession of teaching literature very well and had that wonderful ability to make classical literature interesting, informative, and fun.

MaryPage, I like your new picture/avatar.

I don't look much different than that picture that was posted but I don't know how long ago it was taken.

Hi Shirley - yes, we had the great good fortune to meet up with you on our trip.  It's great for all of us to know we have friends all over everywhere.

I got on the old SN (Shirley, didn't you direct me there in some Alaska talks?) in the late 1990s, and then came here and to SeniorLearn when the powers-that-be threw us out of SeniorNet.

Besides Shirley, I've met lots of folks in person - Pat Westerdale (we actually were on the same Elderhostel in New Mexico), Ruth Ann Bice,  Papa John and his lovely wife, SharonE, jane (Iowa), SCF Sue, MaryPage, Bobbi, several folks in SN who didn't make the transition here. The Tennessee group on SN was a very chatty one.  And probably some others I haven't remembered.  All wonderful people.

That is MaryZ & me in that picture back there.  Taken the day we first met, here in Annapolis this May of 2016.  I am in hopes she will get here often now that she has a granddaughter who owns a home here, and not 10 minutes away from me.

I was surprised to find my picture in the group in 2007.  Norm got me started way back when I had to sign on at a cost, but after I was "in", it didn't cost.  I didn't explain that right, but I don't know how else to tell it.  Anyway, that was my start to the Senior groups and I think it was in the late 1990s.

I'll see what pictures I have, if any, from visitors to Norm and Dot, and forward them to someone to post.  I do think I have one of Northern Joan, Whimzy, Junee and ???.  Also one of Katemate, Buck and Norm.  Probably more.  I'll look and I'm glad to see so many in this folder.

It's wonderful to see these photos!

Wow!  What memories they bring back.

I saw a few of you asking when SeniorNet started.  There are two starting dates...One was when the organization started with Learning Centres in various states and also in New Zealand and the other starting date was the opening of the SeniorNet Forums a few years later.

The SeniorNet Forums started at the end of April of 1995.  Joan Grimes was the first person to post in the forums quickly followed by many, many more of us with  a few of us just "lurking" in the background reading until the end of May and beginning of June of 1995.   was just so scared to post live on the internet!!!!.  I registered as joanee40 for fear that someone would know me and come knocking on my door if I registered as Pat. ::) !   ;D I had done an internet search for a knitting pattern and in the list of places where the search said I'd find one was SeniorNet.  NOPE!!!  No knitting patterns so one of the first new topics I opened was one for Knitting and Crochet and pretty soon, we separated that topic into two as it was so popular.

Then we had an extensive Recipe area starting with Bread!   Gardening was another that was popular at the very beginning.

I posted in earnest at the beginning of June (or at the end of May) and my first close online friend was Jeanne Lee.  She and I both have long feet and so we kidded each other about "having our running shoes on" by who was going to reply to various questions first!

I hope that this helps you with the dates.  From those months from end of April to beginning of June of 1995, the site quickly grew and grew until we had thousands of members on the site.  There were many Books and Literature topics and I begged and begged for a Photography area and can you believe the size we were limited to use to display our photos?  They couldn't be larger than 300 pixels on their longest side ( :knuppel2: :knuppel2: ) and no larger than 25 KB

It certainly was a sad day when SeniorNet closed the doors and led us to believe that it was "temporary" and that we had been "hacked" etc. which wasn't the truth.  I opened a temporary sub-site on my Photography website just to fill in the time for the poor folks until SN would bring back the forums.  They never did!  So I purchased the domain name of seniorsandfriends.org and opened this site for the many needing a new home.

It is my desire that this site be a haven for many seniors and their friends for a long time to come.

Thank you, Pat.  Thank you so much for giving us this home.  I have more pictures coming, including some you will remember.  Take care, my friend, and Be Well!

Pat I agree with MaryPage, thank you!

Also if I haven't said it before, what a nice avatar you have MaryPage!

MaryPage

Thank you, Patricia.  You are so sweet to say so.
I owe thanks to Jeanne Lee for cropping that picture for me and fixing it in here.  It was taken in June, I think it was, when I was at Cooper's Hawk with 3 or 4 of my children and having a splendid, ice cold Margarita.  The world was my oyster in that place at that moment!
