This man was really lonely, so he posted an ad on a popular website. The ad said, simply: "Wife wanted."

He was surprised the next morning to find he had over a hundred replies in his inbox. Unfortunately, they all said the same thing: "You can have mine."

One night as I was putting my
2 1/2-year-old daughter to bed,
I saw a bright full moon in the sky. I let her look at the moon for a minute and then asked, “Who made the moon?”

“God,” came her reply.
“And the stars?” I asked. Again the answer was, “God.”
I continued with a few more questions: Who made the trees, the flowers, etc. Finally I asked, “Who made Daddy?”
She said, “Grandma.”

Store Robbery

A robber came into my store and stole $100 from the register without my knowledge. A few minutes later, the same guy came back with the $100 he stole and purchased $70 worth of items and I gave him $30 in change. How much money did I lose?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "good morning and THANK YOU to you Bubble for our brand, spanking new home...the jokes and the pictures.  However, I have to take exception with the riddle.  I think he got $130. from the storekeeper.

Originally he got $100.  He came back and exchanged $70. of that money for $70. worth of merchandise.  Technically he still has $100.  It's just in different form.  Now the storekeeper gave him another $30. in change so he now has $130.  Tell me what's wrong with my thinking.  It's still early here.

Shirley, "To Catch a Thief" came out in 1955.  Depending on when it got to Lewisburg, it could have been a smoochy date or a nice young married couple having a night out.  We were married in June of 1955.  I've also seen it many times over the years.  I have it on tape AND DVD.  I'd bet in the intervening 65+years I've probably watched it at least once a year since VCR came on the market.

I'll be off to Wally World today.  Wish me smiles, short lines and my favorite CSM.  I wish you all the day of your dreams.  Color it to suit your whim.  Enjoy!

Good morning everyone..

I have Larry in random images smiling at me this morning :)

Hubby wants his hair cut this morning so into town we go. I did some laundry last night and that needs to be put away. Lunch will be the chicken soup I made the other day and will worry about supper later.

Larry, I did 8 of those and a friend gave me two tops she didn't want so they also went.

Shirley ,as you know fall just brings a different work routine, getting ready for winter  and I want to do some canning/pickles. I wonder just how long the cover stays off the central air unit??

Jane ,have a great day at work and I hope you hear from your roofer too.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Be back later, had a post ready to fly (sitting in half dark) and hit a wrong key & it disappeared except for first line & I gotta get moving.  Have a schedule to meet & never enough time to do it all....rush-rush.

Love your graphics, Bubble.... the old fashioned perfect for a melancholy morning.... but your imagination was flowing with that collage of shapes & colors!  Fascinates me how you put so much together & make the eyes search them out.  I have no imagination & recognize it takes a special person to do that, beautiful. Thanks for sharing your time & talent.

Jane, if that movie came out in '55, I saw it in England. We went to a lot of movies until the baby was born in Jan of '56.  I can count on one hand the times I've been to one in a theater all these years since, but with TV, I can watch & do other things. By the way, that thief got away with $130 cash but total loss was $200 for the shop keeper, right?

Amy, my husband had a haircut appointment every 3 weeks & almost always came home & asked me to "trim a little off this side.........".  He was convinced the barber got to talking & cut more on one side than the other.  I sure hope we have a fall this year, maybe one day of spring but I don't even remember that day.  Strange year.  Do the loons in your lake migrate or stay all year?  That is one sight & sound I'd love to wake up to out camping.

Wild, wacky & wonderful Wednesday to all..... sounds like Callie is floating in OK this morning.  Stay safe & put on your water wings, Callie.

Good morning everyone, 'tis Wednesday and the landscapers are here waking everyone up with the mowers and leaf blowers. Cloudy but supposed to clear and sun shine later. Think I need some of Joan's Angel dust, having trouble sleeping the past couple of nights. Then do not want to wake up in the mornings.

JANE  if you were closer I would suggest you call my son, he was a roofer for years. How tall are you? Do you feel like you are lost with all the tall men in your family? Now the only one shorter than me is my 3 year old greatgrandson.

JUNE  my PC is here it is me that has not been up to posting lately. Do feel much better today so might write a book today.

SHIRLEY  like your sons I use much more pepper than salt. I always get the iodized salt but use very little. Occasionally I get a craving for salt and that is about the only time I will get some very salty pretzels.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new "book" to write in. Great graphics as usual from you, cute jokes, too.

AMY  have a good day.

LARRY  hello when you get here.

Jane, I'm wondering if the thief got $200 total.  He had the $100 and got $70 worth of goods plus the $30 back.  So the merchant was out the $100, $70 worth of goods and the $30 - a total of $200.

It's early in the morning so maybe my thinking isn't too good yet.

Good morning.  I know I have not been around for a while.  I had some family  and some health issues.  But, things are improving and I am slowly getting back to feeling better.

Nothing much happening in my little corner of the world.  It is pretty sunshine this morning. We have been having daily thunderstorms all around our state, but it hasn't been as bad in my area.  The storms appear and only have been lasting a short time.  Has been raining during the night and then nice and bright in the morning. The rains have been widely scattered.  Our local county carnival is going on this week at our town's fire department grounds. and it usually means a rainy week.  I think they have been lucky so that the rains have not really had a big impact on the attendance.  Tonight is the parade and sounds like it will go off as planned.  If I wanted to make myself go out front of our building, I would be able to watch it.  But, since I live at the back of the building and it is a good walk down to the front of the building,  I think I will just stay put in my place. I have seen enough parades in my lifetime.

I have had breakfast and checking some places on the computer, so I will just wish you all a nice pleasant day.

Joy

Hi Everyone.  We have a day with a zero chance of rain, according to the forecasters, which is pretty unusual this year.  It will get to the mid-90's this afternoon.  We did stay home yesterday and plan to do the same until late this afternoon when we plan on going out to eat.  We will meet Scott, and perhaps the girls, at Diablo's.  We haven't been there for quite awhile and we all like it.  The yard people are out working on the yards this morning.  Yesterday was a day of little accomplishment other than fixing breakfast for Pat and cleaning up the kitchen and then fixed the supper of the stuffed peppers, some salad and some applesauce.  I did finish listening to my audio book and began another one.

Jane, glad you were able to locate the leak and put buckets under it.  I sure wouldn't crawl into such a tight space and it gives me shutters just to think about doing so.  I hope you get a call back soon from a roofer.  I don't expect you will find such a small guy to fix your roofing problems.  I am sure you are very careful on the ladder and glad you have good handholds.

June, I hope you enjoyed your lunch downstairs yesterday.  I know it is frustrating for you not to have you desktop to use.

Shirley, you can assure your kids that what I said about the salt situation was exactly what happened.  I lost my appetite and it had gotten down to where when we went out to eat with our Church friends I couldn't tolerate the thought of eating anything but a scoop of ice cream.  This went on for about 10 days and wasn't a good way to lose weight, which I did.  The doctors never mentioned anything about the lack of iodine.  After that one occurrence I haven't had anymore problems with the sodium and still seldom use the salt shaker.  I am sure I get enough salt in the food when we eat out as well as canned and other foods.  The doctors didn't say anything about why I wasn't getting enough salt.  I am very sensitive to the taste of salt.  I did not know that the salt in the things we buy does not contain iodine.  I wonder why?  Glad to see you are a gracious receiver as giving is a joy to the person doing it when it is unexpected.  I used to love Twinkies and we used to take them in our school lunches on occasion that mother bought them.

June, when I got tot he hospital my sodium level was down to around 20. I was experiencing some mental confusion and the doctor gave me a strict order to get to the hospital immediately and not drive.  Thanks for sharing that information.

Jane, it sounds like Bucknell did a very nice thing for the community.  Alfred Hitchcock made some very good movies.

Bubble, I see you have done your usual fine job of getting us started on a new page.  Thanks.  Your graphics are really interesting, especially that second one.

Amy, it sounds like you have a fairly busy day planned.  Thanks for the info on the quilts.

Gloria, I sometimes wish our lawn folks didn't get such an early start but understand they have a lot of yards to take care of and they have to start somewhere.  We have someone come with the edger, one with the push mower, one with the riding mower for the small front yards and then the final one with the blower to clear the walks and porches.  I wish they just did this every two weeks rather than once a week but their contract calls for once a week.  Nice to see you are feeling better today.  I haven't eaten any pretzels for a long time so may get a big the next time at the store or have Pat put it on the Walmart order.  I am running a little slow today.  Yesterday I felt real peppy but taking my shower this morning left we tired and that is not usually the case.  I laid down for a little while afterwards.

Joy, glad to see you posting this morning and read that you are feeling better.  Glad to see your weather hasn't been a bad as it has been some places.

Good Afternoon,

Bubble, your art work is absolutely amazing!!!

Oklahoma City broke all kinds of records for one-day rainfall yesterday. However, that was mostly because two storms merged and "parked" right over the airport where the official measure is taken.
I was concerned about son/dil who live west of the airport but he said the bad part was east of them and they just had "a lot" of rain - no flooding.

The skies to the west of me looked ominous and the trees behind me were very still (often a sign of "bad things to come").   There was steady rain for quite a while but there isn't as much in the rain gauge this mornng as I expected. Certainly won't have to water for a while, though.

Larry,  I suspect we don't get iodized salt because some lab tech or medical guru (translate "on social media") "discovered" that it's "bad for you (translate: "will do terrible things to children") and  manufacturers were pressured into changing their habits.  It's amazing that so many of us managed to grow up and live as long as we have!!!

Any movie that came out around 1955 could have been a smoochy date for me.
There were two schools  in town- Elementary grades 1-6 and Jr/Sr high school grades 7-12, which was on a hill.  The local movie theater had a balcony that was technically open to anyone. However, somehow we "knew" we wouldn't be accepted to sit upstairs until we had gone "up on the hill".  I only remember seeing one older couple sitting there; they were checking up on their daughter, who had gotten the word and "managed" not to be there that night.
A new theater was built the first year I was in college.  So I don't know at what point we would have stopped sitting there and gone downstairs with the "old folks" - probably when we became too "worldly" to put up with the teenage shenanigans.

Nothing on my agenda this week.

Off to do something useful - like clean the pantry shelves, where I'm sure there are many items way way out of "use by" date.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day..

We actually had two movie theaters in our little town when I was growing up.  The Roxy had a balcony but it only showed westerns and spook shows.  I did go there occasionally on a Saturday mostly because that's where most of the boys went.  I never got to sit near them because that all sat up front.  The one who eventually turned out to be my husband used to say that he had to sit on the left in the front because it was his job to throw all the chairs back in when the fell out during the bar fights.

I remember taking my cousin to a movie there and my sister and I told her not to put her feet flat on the floor.  When she asked "Why", my sister said "Because that's when the rats run across your feet".  We had a hard time getting her to put her feet down so we could leave.

I had a neat thing happen at work today.  I was at a busy register and I had checked out an elderly gentleman who is a more of less regular customer.  He paid in cash and his change was $1. even.  After he had time to get to his car and unload his groceries, he returned to my register to tell me that I'd mistakenly given him 2 one dollar bills and he was returning one.  Isn't that neat!  It made my day! And 4 customers in line saw and heard the exchange and they all commented on it.  Nice Interlude!

I figured it out again and I still come up with $130. that the thief got away with.  Of the original 100 he traded 70 for merchandise.  He gave the clerk a 100 dollar bill and got back 30.  Now he....DANG!  He still only has $100......70 in merchandise and 30 in change!  It was a trick!  And darned if that isn't what Bubble told us....upside down under the riddle.  I'm a believer.

Another day has raced away..

Gloria, thank you for the giggle....I am 5'4 and it seems everyone towers over me except the little grands.....so far.

Shirley, he now goes to a lad here in town. When I would take him to the city ,he said the fellow did that same thing, if he clipped as much as he talked he would get a lot done! The loons leave before freeze up ,  when I was out in the garden  early this morning I could hear them calling. I shall miss them when they go.

Jane, what a nice honest gentleman  you had in your line.

Larry, hope you feel better...

Bubble ,thank you for the new graphics and giggles. Tell Don we miss him in here..

Since I never said Good Night last night, I guess I better get with it this morning. So...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for a while and trying to combat the extreme fatigue I've been feeling lately.  I decided that it might be partly because I've been skimping on breakfast so this morning I made a cheese omelet and toast with my coffee.  We shall see!

Thanks for the "thumbs up" Bubble.  It took me a while but when I actually said it out loud, I GOT it!  You actually have to remember that it's a one hundred dollar bill (unbroken) that we're dealing with.

Now I'm off to do some catch up this morning.  I cleaned out the fridge while we waited for the boinger for the doggies pills so one of the things I'll have to do is take the trash to the dumpster.  While I'm in town, I have a couple of errands to run.

I wish you all a great day.  Grab it and make it your own.  Fill it with the love of friends and family or enjoy your solitude.  It's your choice!

Hi Everyone. Our morning starts out overcast but we are to see some sun today as well as clouds and a chance of rain is back in the forecast.  It is suppose to be in the mid 90's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a quiet day here.  Around 4 pm Scott arrived and we visited until it was time to go to dinner at Diablo's.  Once again we all enjoyed our Tex-Mex meal.  He didn't stay very late last evening.  The girls did not join us for dinner.  Today will be my typical Thursday.  I will stop at the Walmart Pharmacy to pick up a new medicated shampoo prescription.  My co-pay on this medication is over $50.  I am staggered that any shampoo can be so expensive and I sure hope it works.  Then I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  After I bring him home I will again stop at the grocery pickup area and pick up the grocery order that Pat placed yesterday.  This will be the first time since this closer Walmart started offering this service.  Scott plans to be here at 11:30 to help unload the car although I told him it was't necessary but he wanted to come and help.  It will be nice to spend a little time with him two days in a row as usually it is only one day.

I did not sleep very well last night after the first 4 yours.  After laying there for a couple of hours I got up and worked a jigsaw puzzle on my laptop and then went back to bed and slept fitfully the rest of the night.  There was no particular reason but it just was the situation.

Callie, glad to see your son didn't experience flooding from all of that rain.  I agree that is it amazing that for thousands of years people were able to grow up and live (most not as long as we do today) but they weren't told this and that is bad for them and then later told it is OK.  Pat put three things in the trash last night from the refrigerator that were past the use by date.  Of course, when we were growing up they didn't have use by dates on things.  Pat likes to put a little strip of freezer tape on things we freeze with the date frozen on them.

Jane, it sounds like your future husband had a serious job to do at the movies.  Funny story about your cousin and the rats.  That was kind of mean.  :)  It was nice of the man to return the $1 too much in change.  There are still a lot of honest and good people in this world.  When we went to eat last night we had the nicest young black man at the first food station who smiled and did all he could to make our dining experience enjoyable.  My son complimented him at the time we placed our order.  I hope your good breakfast helps restore your energy.  Going through the day feeling fatigued isn't very pleasant--I know.  If you haven't already done so just do a computer search on HARP.  I quickly did that and there is a lot of information.  I see the program is ending this year.  I think this is the program my son has utilized and it did reduce his house payments.

Amy, I had you pictures a bit taller than you say you are basically because of being a farm wife and all that you do.  I know height hasn't anything to do with that as my mother was only 5'2" tall and she worked so hard on the farm and for a long time had a 9-5 full-time job in town.  I did feel pretty good yesterday, perhaps not as peppy as the day before, but good.

June, now you can count the hours until you get your desktop back.  I could tell from your posting that you were probably feeling better yesterday since you were out for the Bible study and then lunch.

Lloyd, hope your VA appointment goes well today and that you don't have to wait a long time.

Good morning everyone, finally had a good night's sleep. Feel more alive, yippee. Signed up for my flu shot yesterday, that will be the middle of October. So nice to get it right here.
The gremlins are at work on the PC lemon again. My Skype has gone on vacation. Would not work yesterday so called my daughter instead. Sent an email  SOS to my grandson. Been 7 months since I had to ask for his help. That was the longest stretch on this lemon that I did not need help.

LARRY  I never used much salt but like my Mom always bought iodized salt. I salt the water when cooking vegetables and roasts when cooking but never added to the food in my plate. Wonder if a lack of salt is what took my appetite away or if it is one of the pills I have to take now. The lawn folks start here right at 7am. They might like to start earlier while it is still cool but no noise before 7. Cannot remember the last time I felt peppy.

AMY  I am a real shorty now and every thing in this building is too high. The counters and sinks ad stoves.  A lot of shorties live here and like the rest of them I agree it was a tall man who designed every thing. Then my son tells me it is the standard height that is proper these days. Fooey, that height is for the tall young ones not us seniors that this building is for.

LLOYD  I wish you real help at the VA today.

If I don't get moving my CNA will be here and i still have not had breakfast. Have a good day.

Good night, EVERYFRIEND!

Busy day trying to get the house back in order after our family headed back to Boston.  It sure was hard to say goodbye, however we will be seeing them in mid September when we head to Boston to stay with the boys while mom and dad go to Europe.

Two sad cases of murder here in Denver..... I just do not understand how any person could possibly be able to murder a loved one.   Hard not to let something like this prey on your mind.

I wish you all a good night of rest...pleasant dreams t9 all.

Well, here I am, back in my regular place.  It's pouring down rain outside.  This has been the wettest summer I've ever experienced!  I don't see how there could be so much rain up there to come down here.  Every time it rains, we have flash flood warnings!

I wish you all a good morning and a good day!  The doggies and I are waiting for the boinger for their pills then breakfast.  I have a long-term plan for getting a manager to listen to what I have to say.  I'm going to institute it today!  Will it or won't it work!  I wonder!

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Last evening I took both dogs out, Babe wanted to play ball..when Golden girl saw the ball go she also wanted to play. I held the pup back and just rolled the ball easy and GG with her awkward gait  brought the ball back!! Amazing!! For others that don't know the story the groomer told me and she is a vet tech that GG would only live a week...….and that was the end of June!

Good morning everyone, I am so fed up with this PC I am so sorry I wasted the money on it. Cannot get my PSP installed and now my Skype is gone. Had to call my daughter yesterday and tell her we would have to talk on the phone instead, just not the same. Called my guru grandson last night and he said he would try to be here Saturday. Then this morning it gave me a problem even getting online. Grrr. Maybe I should ask my grandson about getting an  iPad. At least I would keep in touch here and use face time to talk to my daughter every day.

SANDY  I bought my rollator about 8 years ago and am so glad I did. I do not go anywhere without it. Always good to have that seat when too much walking makes you tired. I bought mine at BJ's online and it was about $90.
You would never be sorry to have one.

Hi Everyone.  It is another typical August day here in South Carolina.  It is clear and sunny this morning but we are to have a mostly cloudy afternoon and there is a small chance of rain later today.  Our main plans for today are to have our main meal at Ruby Tuesday's.  They still have a $12.99 three course meal offer that we haven't taken advantage of.  On the way home I will run into Aldi's for a few vegetables that Pat forgot to put on the Walmart Online Order.

Yesterday I did pick up the order she had placed at the nearby Walmart.  The nicest young lady brought them out and put them in the car.  She had a great personality and I came home and did the short survey that pertained to the service I had received and I gave her the 5 starts.  This was the first time I had done this.  Before I went to coffee I picked up the prescription for my very, very expensive shampoo.  My part was $56 dollar and the cash price would have been $350.  I am to use it three times a week for 4 weeks.  You have to apply it to the dry hair and wait 15 minutes before showering.  I sure hope this works.  I asked the pharmacist why this was so expensive and she had no idea other than the drug companies basically get to set the price.

Gloria, glad you can get your flu shot without having to go to a drug store or doctor's office for it.  I will get mine at the Walmart pharmacy before long and may get the shingles shot (apparently there is a new one since I had mine a number of years ago) and it take two shots for it.  We always used iodized salt as well but not sure about what we now have in the pantry as it is not the Morton's Salt that had the little girl with the umbrella on the label. Was good to read you had gotten a good night's sleep Wednesday night and I hope last night was a good.  I have always wondered who got to set the standards on things like cabinet heights.  Fortunately the standard height is fine for both Pat and I except it is too high now when Pat tries to work from the chair she has in the kitchen. If your daughter has an iPad or an iPhone then the iPad would work well.  I use that all the time to communicate with my good friend where I used to live.  This could solve your problem of having to sit at your computer.  I got a very inexpensive blue tooth keyboard to use with my iPad what works well and is easier to use than the onscreen keypad with the iPad.

June, sorry to read that you woke up not feeling very good and were unhappy.  As you say life happens and we just have to deal with it on a day by day basis.

Amy, it does shorten up our days a bit when we get to sleep in and get up later in the morning.  Glad you are staying in when it is so hot and it sounds like those days will soon be a memory as it cools for the fall.  We are still a long ways from that happening here. It sounds like Golden Girl can still enjoy life a bit if she wanted to play and fetch the ball.  Vets, and doctors, sometimes are not very good at predicting how long pets or people will live.  We have been spared rain for the last three or four days but more is now in the forecast.

Sandy, it sounds like a walker or rollator would be a good idea for you.  The walker gives stability and Pat uses hers in the house all of the time.  I got her a rollator but had to return it as it was too heavy to get in and out of the truck.  I want her to get a walker that we can put in the back seat of the car for when we go out as it is lightweight.  I do have a transport chair in the truck of the car that isn't as heavy as the rollator that she has used once when she went into a store that gave her the benefit of the walker with the handles and also provided a place where she could sit down as she no longer can tolerate being on her feet very long.  I am going to look at the site you mentioned to see if any of those would work for her.  She is a bit heavy so the rollator has to be rated for her weight class.

Lloyd, hope the thunder storms didn't keep you awake last night.

Jenny, nice that you can stay with the boys when you son and his wife are out of the country.  Mid-September will be here soon. There was a terrible story on the news last night about a man who had admitted to killing his wife and two small children after pleading for them to be returned safely.  A couple of days ago we had a man rob a Dollar store in our area and after he got the money he shot the young lady.  Fortunately she is expected to survive.

Jane, sorry you are getting more unneeded rain.  I hope your manager will heed what you have to say today.

Gloria, I bought this HP when we were in Walmart on our trip to CO in June.  It is the 17", what I like, would never have considered HP but my oldest son went on & on about it's merits, "same as his only step up with touch screen".... and about 1/3 of original price at $250.  So I bought it, he did the original set up after we charged the battery running generator in RV.  No internet so couldn't do that part until we got home.  Anyway, I have NOT put PSP on even though I have 2 newer versions of the 9 that Glenn Curtis recommended (has Animation Shop), that I love & lost use of.  I'm afraid PSP may bring me to tears if it fights HP like yours. Besides, I did install on the old computer that was updated to Windows 7 & then 10.... but I can't remember how to set up the workspace or anything else.  Jack, over in Photos, does a great job with the Windows 10 photo whatever it's called, so I'm going to pester him to help me do what I need to work on photos to post here.

Daughter just left to head home & lawn guy here so better quit & do what's necessary.  We did get some rain earlier this week but the river has never overflowed it's banks like most years..... to clean out the icky stuff fishermen leave behind upstream.  Keep hoping, needs one clean out at least once a year. We usually built up the storms & rain goes south or east.

Larry, when we built (yes, really built) my husband & I did everything except he insisted on hiring a "cabinet maker" to make the cabinets for the kitchen & bathrooms.  (My husband had a degree to teach Industrial Arts & excelled in woodworking before he went on for more training).... I was promised cabinets an inch lower than "average" & that darn cabinet maker had them all roughed in before he admitted they were "standard".  He was doing such a lousy job we paid him off early & Cas finished them himself.  He was supposed to be the best in the area but right off the bat he "shimmed up to make them not level".... It took us a year to build that house but it was level, solid & well worth the effort.  Tell Pat I've gone to a wooden bar stool in the kitchen, Cas cut the legs to fit my half sitting when "watching the stove"... or since he is gone, I often eat in the kitchen in front of my under the cabinet TV & have the bar stool right there. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen since the window over the sink faces the street.

You may have seen this before (I have) but it is certainly worth another read.  I would like to use it as part of a devotional I will give for our Sunday School class a week from Sunday but know I could never get through it without becoming very emotional, as I have just now reading it again.

Two Choices,
What would you do?....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.

Where is the natural order of things in my son?'
The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning..'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt.. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

In top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. Athe pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.
Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first!

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

By time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home. All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO THIS STORY:

We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate.

The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.

If you're thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you're probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren't the 'appropriate' ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference.

We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the 'natural order of things.' So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice:

Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least fortunate amongst them.

Good morning.......it is Friday AGAIN!  Where do these weeks go?

SANDY, I highly recommend the walker I have....it appears to be a bit more expensive than the ones you are looking at, but I have seen them for less at other web sites.  I hope you will check it out as it has larger wheels that are very forgiving when rolling along ANY surface.

Drive Medical RTL10266-T Nitro Euro Style Walker Rollator, Tall

I thought it would take you to the web site.....sorry.  I know you can find it with this info.

LARRY, the murder case has everyone just in awh of how this could possibly happen......and now the worse news yet is they have located the two girls in oil tanks where he placed them....just horrific news.

I wish you all a Good Friday.

Good day at WM today.  My favorite CSM was working and she left for her break just before I clocked in.  I saw her in deep discussion with the other CSM and when I clocked in he said, "Mel said she already put a till in 18 and you're supposed to go there".  18 is an express lane.  When I came back from my break, he said, "Just go back to 18"  So I had express for my whole shift.  And, with a little luck, maybe she told him WHY she got 18 ready for me.  If she did, I have another one on my side!

I'm going to take a short nap and then make a trip to the library.  I kept my last item overdue but I went by this morning and dropped it in the outside box.  Now I have to go pay the fine.

Sounds like you're all having a pretty good day.  HOORAY for GOLDEN GIRL!  She's like her "mother".... she's not giving up!

Surprise ! Gary called earlier and said, "Stay home....i'm bringing your computer up in a few minutes.....WOW !
They could not bring my original one back to life, but they had a spare(used) just like my original. They put all  my stuff onto that computer, added a hundred bucks to the original 3 hundred for repair, and I an sitting here with a big grin on my face. My blessed son resized some stuff, and gave me original  colors of stuff so I am happier with this baby than I could hope for. I went through a lot of extra stuff I had saved and put it in the trash....I am addicted to saving stuff....so it is cleaned out now. (partially, if I want rto be honest.

Sandy, I have a rollator made by Guardian. We got it for my husband when he needed one.He died in 2005. I started using it several years later, and I am still using it, I even dance with it. , so I guess it is worth passing on my experience for you.

I am suddenly very tired....all the excitement of having my Mac  back...still have some learning to do, but not tonight.
Saturday is a sort of slow day here, so I will have plenty of time to play with my computer. I am SO thankful. God Bless you all  and have a peaceful night. Hugs, Love and prayers, June.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept so well last night that I actually feel rested this morning.  And on top of a good night's sleep, I also watched a couple of TV shows through my eyelids last night!  Today should be a good day!

AMY, I've not only never been to a GARLIC FESTIVAL, I've never even heard of one!  But I bet it would be right up my alley.  I love the way garlic enhances flavors and if you get to taste things at the festival, that would be a definite plus in my book.  You'll have to tell us about it when you get home.  But please, breathe in a different direction!

The doggies and I are waiting for the "boinger" for their pills and then we'll have breakfast.  And then, I don't know what the day will bring.

JUNE, you must be so happy to have your CP back!  I could almost hear the excitement in your post!  You have such loving sons.

I wish you all a very good day today.  Fill it with what pleases you best.  Be well! Be happy!  Love and be loved!  You all deserve the BEST!

Hi Everyone.  It is another overcast morning and will be a mostly cloudy day.  It will keep the temperatures in the high 80's today.  Pat was not up to going out to eat yesterday so we just stayed home and had a quiet day.  I will have a pretty busy day, or at least morning, as plan on attending a meeting.  I also plan on stopping at Lowe's to check out the small freezers.  Since we only have one car now we have room in our garage.  The freezer in our refrigerator is upright and the shelves are narrow and it is a bit difficult to get some of the things out.  This would give us more options on buying frozen dinners from Schwan's and other places and not have to shop as often for frozen things.  I also need to stop at Aldi's for some fresh vegetables and a couple of other things.  Hopefully Pat will feel up to eating out later this afternoon.  That will be plenty for today.

Shirley, one of the best computers that Pat has had was an HP I bought off the shelf at Walmart years ago.  I had Paint Shop Pro software many years ago but never did much with it as just am not artistic like many of you here are.  One of my coffee drinking friends form Georgia is an excellent wood worker.  However, this week he cut off three of his fingers and is in the hospital.  They are trying to reattach them but are not giving him much hope that they can save them.  It sounds like you all built a great house.  My Dad and grandfather built the house my grandparents had as their last home.  We had a kitchen stool at one time but Pat was afraid to sit on it.  She now has an office type chair that has height adjustments and is able to use that as it has arms on it and is easy to move around.  She often sits in it and watches what is on the stove.

Jenny,  does your rollator fold up to fit behind behind the seat in the car? I am not very strong anymore and lifting something into and out of the truck is a problem for me.  I heard that about the two little girls and the mother.

Jane, always nice to read you have gotten short lines. Did you have your session with the manager?

June, great news about your new (old) desktop.  It was obvious that it has really brightened your spirits and hope today is a good one for you and your computer.

Amy, is your area a big garlic growing area?  I also  have never heard of a garlic festival.

Lloyd, it sounds like you are in for a nice weather day that won't be too hot.  What is the status of your motor home?

Good morning everyone, amother gloomy day here with possible thunderstorms later. Hope my grandson gets here before then.

LARRY  where my daughter lives now she  uses her iPad all the time. They both have to use their iPhones for all communications now. They are off the grid so are all self contained. The day they have the flu shots here they will also have the shingles shot and the pneumonia ones. I also have a doctor's apointment that day and hope to get home before they finish. I seldom have apointments 2 days in a row but on that tuesday I have a dentist appointment.  My daughter has the keyboard and uses a mouse, that would be my choice, too.

SHIRLEY  my first HP was the least expensive one at BJ's ( ;ole a cosco) but the hard drive had no space left so ordered this one and was almost $1,000. Waste of money. Think my grandson is tired of it, too.

Have to go grandson is here.

Gloria, I feel sorry every time you mention your computer problems.  I have had HPs for several years (I think this is my fourth, at least) and I know I didn't pay anywhere near $1,000 for any of them.  I have ordered directly from HP and read about the features, then ordered.

Jane, we love garlic, I have a shaker of pure garlic on the table that we use on just about everything. Have you tried garlic powder on hot buttered popcorn? YUMMY!~

Forgot to add David was telling me of the "bridge" mess in your area...is it cleaned up now?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for August 15, 2018

I use garlic on lots of things too.  Love it on popcorn with some parmesan cheese.

Target date for finishing all the details of the bypass bridge is sometime in 2020 unless they've changed it.  It is a mess and I feel sorry for the truckers that have to use the detours.  This week a very large crane of some sort collapsed and everything shut down until the cleanup was completed.  I think the paper said it was hydraulic and the fluid made a REAL mess.  I hope David wasn't trying to get through at that time.  After spending a weekend waiting for a part for his truck then having to deal with that mess would have caused the air to turn a bit blue around me!

I have to make a quick trip to the  store before I can make supper.  I missed on ingredient on the recipe and it's essential and can't be switched to something I already have.  Maybe, I'll wait and pick it up on my way home from church tomorrow.  I'll already be out running around then and it just started to pour again.  I think I have a very good reason for staying home and eating from the freezer tonight.

Well, that's decided!

It is surprising how much I have forgotten how to do on my imac.It is slowly coming back, but I think my age is getting a bit of a problem too. Lots of dizzyness and light headed- ness I am not complaining...just facing the facts.

Sandy:  I hope you find the perfect rollator - the two ideas mentioned I would think would be great - larger wheels or all terrain, and a seat built, oh the third one is it should be light enough to lift in and out of a car & up stairs.  Best wishes for your choice.

Jenny:  You two must have signed on to be grandsitters on demand.  Good for you.  Yes, the family murdered has to be one of the worst stories lately - such a evil person.

We watched the sky looking fierce a few hours ago and we did get a little rain so now the weather looks like it is still heading east.  I made the 6th. meal in an Instant Pot and it went well.  The pressure cooker is great at tenderizing meat.  I like to make soups and this will be nice plus making more vegetarian dishes too.

June:  Best wishes for you - sorry about your being light headed.  Are you drinking lots of water?  Take care.

LARRY, I can put my rollator in the car behind my seat or lift it into the back of the car.....I won’t tell you it is easy for me, but I can do it.  Folding it in and out is very easy to do.  I like it because it is easy to walk with and you stand up straight....no leaning over like I see so many people doing.  The large wheels are the best I have ever used.....they just roll over any surface with no problem.  I feel it is lighter than the one that my Dad’s Friend Diane uses....I really had to struggle to get hers folded, and lifted.

JUNE, SO HAPPY you have a MAC back.....I hope this helps you to put a smile back on your beautiful face, dear friend❣️

Bob got up with a very sore ankle this morning.  He can hardly put any weight on it.  He is not aware of doing anything to it...
thought about gout, but before it has always been in his  big toe.  He soaked it in Epsome Salts, (SHIRLEY), and he says it is feeling better.  I have his leg elevated and he is watching football..... time w8ll tell.

We were to go watch Grandson Matthews tennis match in a bit, but guess that is out for today.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Saturday.

Jenny, Cas would wrap his wrist with the Epsom salt small towel, put a grocery plastic bag over it & wrap the heat pad around that & watch TV for a couple hours.... next morning his wrist was cured & he could play golf.  I didn't have to suggest it after that first time it worked so well.  Not sure it would help if gout, but probably he just twisted it, so easy to do the older we get.... & don't even know at the time.  Hugs to you both.  Did I mention that "the boys" are wanting to go back to close up the campgrounds?  Youngest found they are locking them the 15th instead of the 25th like last year.  I would think the small towns around would be screaming "foul" since that is near peak season for aspen color and must be a great boost to the economy.  We buy groceries, gas & all those other things we really didn't need... plus fast food every time we go into town. Too bad the politicians chose to lease OUR campgrounds to people that only pay pennies of "profit" for their use. How can they show profit when they put locked gates across the entrances?!!!  Off my soapbox.  Must get ready for bed but have cats to feed first.  Sweet dreams & God Bless, as Hal used to say.  Shirley

Good Morning!  I'm up, dressed and ready to go to church.  And just for something to do, it's raining again.  Just a soft, misty rain this time but enough so far to wet the sidewalks and the roads.

We're waiting for the boinger for the doggies pills so we can have breakfast and then the day is "up and attem".

I wish you all a good day full of the love of God, family and friends.  this day is yours.  Make it a good one whatever suits your fancy.

Good morning, my grandson got Skype back and my daughter and I were happy campers and talked almost 2 hours yesterday. He brought a surprise with him, my now 3 year old great grandson with him. He sure is a chatterbox now. Loved having him here. Much cooler this morning, 63° and cloudy.

MARY ANN  I ordered this lemon from HP and it went back at 3 weeks. Told them I wanted my money back. They sent it back as working great and at 7 weeks it went back the second time. Told them I wanted a refund or a better computer but they sent the same one back. Never again anymore HP anything for me.

AMY  who knew there was so many kinds of garlic. I use little of it, mostly garlic powder.

CAROL  when I bought my rollator there weren't too many around but a lot of those walkers with those tennisballs on the legs. Only thing with mine is I wish at the time they had the bigger wheels.

JENNY  when my grandson left yesterday I asked my little one if he would like a ride out to the car, his eyes lit up and said yes. My grand sat hi on it facing forward and I rolled it out. That was the best part of his time here. He is so fascinated with it. Not enough room in here for him to push it around.

SHIRLEY  did you know  that
Epsom salts is also good in the garden? Helps the tomato plants to produce more and most other plants, too.

PETER  will enjoy watching this video when I finish reading here. I have it on already and it looked like a beautiful area. Thanks for the link.

Have a good day and stay dry with all the rain around.

Good morning everyone...

Beautiful cool morning at the moment 50°  which won't last long.

A day of rest here...we do have to take the garbage to the dump but after that everything is scott free..

June, I love listening to the loons and there are many videos on utube that one can enjoy. I am sad when they leave in the fall but rejoice in the Spring when I hear them back again.

Jane, he did get through, no problem. He was so happy to get home after being out for 3 weeks.

Gosh, phone rang and talk with my friend and now the day is slipping away..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi Everyone on a very cloudy and dark morning.  It looks like we will be in the mid-80's today and a good possibility of rain.  We did get a very nice rain last evening.  Our timing was great as we had gone out to eat and had just gotten back into the car when it started to rain and it came down is considerable quantities.

We had a delicious dinner last night at Ruby Tuesday's taking advantage of their 3 course dinner for $12.99.  It started with a trip to their great salad bar and then the entree with one side.  Pat had the Tilapia with steamed broccoli and I had the 6 oz. sirloin steak and a nice side of coleslaw.  Then the third course was chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream or key lime pie.  Pat and I both chose the chocolate cake.

I am ready to go to Sunday School and then Church.  I don't know whether Pat will try to go to Church this morning or not as she isn't up yet.  If so I will come home and get her.  The rest of the day will be spent quietly and restfully.  If she goes we will likely stop somewhere for lunch and if not I will pick up something to bring home for our main meal of the day.

Gloria, sure hope you don't miss the shots due to your other medical appointments next week.  I set up my old iPad up for Pat to use as her computer upstairs is slow and old and seems to be a source of aggravation to her.  I think it is time to retire it and I am hopeful the iPad will do all that she needs upstairs as she works on her quilting.  She likes to listen to audio books and that is a breeze on the iPad plus being able to get to the Internet if needed and read email.  I will set it up with the keyboard and mouse although think I will need to get a new blue tooth mouse to use with the blue tooth keyboard that I already have.  I am no longer using the iPad very much as can do everything on my iPhone that I can on it and more and it is much easier to use and lighter in weight.  Only once have I spent more than $500 for a new desktop and that was when computers had first come on the market and I bought a big old IBM computer and monitor and paid around $2500 for it.  Glad your grandson got there yesterday.

Amy, I hope that garlic festival was held outside.  Is there a lot of garlic raised in your area for the commercial market?  I am not really a fan of garlic especially if it is a dominant taste in a dish or on garlic toast.  Nice to read you will be taking a day of rest today.  I sort of guess there may be a hum of that sewing machine later today.

Jane, I think our cupboard contains the same garlic items as yours.  Pat hasn't had any garlic in the pods for a long time.  Of course, she is not doing much cooking anymore.  I do not want it on my popcorn.  That does sounds like a terrible bridge mess and I don't think I have heard about it.  That bridge collapse in Italy (I think it was there) that occurred recently was certainly a tragedy.

June, glad you are surrounded by both a loving family and caring people where you live.  I hope you have a good Sunday.

Carol, it sounds like you are going to get good use from your Instant Pot. They are great for making soups and I am sure we will have some soup made with it this week as Pat got the ingredients needed for more potato soup including a package of ham already chopped into small pieces to put in it.  We now have the quart freezer containers to put it in.

Jenny, thanks for the additional information on your rollator.  I think the problem with lifting the rollator or transport chair into the truck of the car is having to lift it straight out in front to get it over the lip of the trunk.  It I can get one that I can put behind the seat I can tip it back to get part of it into the car and then put in the other part.  I am going to go back and bookmark the one you said you have for future reference so I don't lose track of it.  I hope Bob's ankle is feeling much better today.

Shirley, too bad about them locking up the campgrounds on the 15th.  Will you be making another trip out with the boys if they go.  Do they have their own campsite that requires some attention before winter or is this just another trip out this season.

Roley, I have opened the link you sent and will check it out later today.

Gloria, glad to see you have the Skype back working and a three year old can certainly be a joy to be around.  What energy they have at that age.  Nice you let your little grandson ride on the seat of your rollator.

Good morning everyone. Peter thanks for the link i enjoyed it much. we took my two horses over to Bob's arena. there were lot of folks there with there horses riding, a friend called a young cowboy over there. he got on the big roan collard horse and got bucked off once, but he got right up un hurt and got right back on
he took the buck out of her and riding around fine. he dose that all the time.
He is going to take her home and finish breaking her well so i can safely ride her. he said the sorrel is not a good keeper.so she is going back th the horse sale the 15th of sept, and will try fiend a better match for the good one I have.
this one is just a 4 year old, lot of life expediency left. when I fiend a good match to her and get them well broke will brake them to work in the harness
to the buggy so Nancy can enjoy them also. Nancy has brittle bones and dose not need to get any more broken bones. she already has a plate in her left leg from knee to ankle. Hope you all have a great day just as you like it.

Good Sunday Morning dear hearts,All is well out here. I will be off to Chapel soon. It will be 86 for a high. Not a drop of rain in sight...alas.

I think my cell phone is sick. I stays lit all the time, so it can't be the battery, but other than the light, it could be dead. I will take it downstairs to see if we have cell phone fixers on duty. Probably not on Sunday.

Time to get ready to go out, will return later.  :)

Still taking two salt tablets a day, supposed to cut back on liquids, but with all the pills I take during the day, I need the water to get them down.  Had a nice quiet day...did a lot of reading and napping. walked to Church this morning, and down to lunch, and another walk in the hallways, and many little naps as I read. Life is good, and I am so thankful....I have all of you.  :smitten:

Made a new recipe for supper tonight.  It's delicious.  Leftovers in the Hidey Hole!  It has cabbage, kielbasa, potatoes, onions, a sweet red pepper and lots of seasoning.

I'm going to go to bed early tonight.  I'm kind of tired and tomorrow is a work day.  Well, scratch that thought!  I called my sister and we just talked for almost an hour!  NOW I'm going to go to bed.

Good Night my friends.  Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed to an new day!

That's my only plan for today before I go to work this afternoon.  I wish you all a lovely, relaxed and loving day.  Enjoy!!

Good morning everyone, 63°, first time in quite awhile I slept with window open and no AC. Slept great, too. Had some noise here around 8 last night. The fire alarm went off up here on the third floor. We are less than a half mile from the fire station but seemed to take ages before anyone got here. A new tenant right across the hall from me was taken out in the rescue. I did not open my door but heard them. I have not  met  her yet, she is very quiet. Had a few phone calls for some t hat  live in the back of the building wanting to know what was going on. Told them I did not know but rescue was here with a police car and a fire truck. Glad that does not happen often.

PETER  I enjoyed your link yesterday about George Washington, thank you.

AMY  glad I no longer have to go to the dump, this town finally has trash and recycle pick up. With no car it would be a problem for me now.

LARRY  from what  I just heard on the weather report the high today will be 75°. Nice. The flu shots here are in October. They have the notice up early this year. My first computer was an old IBM that my son had, it went to college with my grandson in his first year. My great grand has been fascinated with my rollator since he first saw it.

GLORIA de  I have the pouch under my seat on the rollator. I like that, keep what I want in there and no one can see what I have. Beats carrying a purse around.

JANE  I love kielbasa but it does not like me. I have stopped getting it for years  now.

LLOYD  every time Skype does an update something changes and not for the better. I think that last update is what messed it up and I lost it.

Have a god day.

A quick good morning.  I have been absent for a few days.  Still having problems with several issues, so am making the rounds of doctor's offices.  Hopefully, things will improve soon.  I feel ok,  just have  a lot to deal  with right now.

Sandy, I have made  note of the rollator you left the link for.  I couldn't find a price, tho.   I looked on Amazon, but they were not  available right now.  I am looking into getting a new one, as the one I am using belonged to my husband.  You do know that if you get a RX from the doctor, Medicare will pay for part of it.   I like the idea that it has the bigger wheels.  I bought one a while back and it is just sitting in the corner.  It is too heavy for me to handle getting it in the car.  Plus, I didn't pay attention when I bought it, that it is a geriatric one, for a bigger person.  I am going to look further into the one you posted.

Need to get myself moving.  I have a hair appointment at 12:30 and I need some time so I don't have to rush.

Have a great day.

Joy

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we will have a bit cooler day today with the chance of afternoon and evening showers.  The only think I have planned for today is a trip to Costco.  I am going to get a rotisserie chicken and we are going to eat out main meal today at noon while the chicken is still hot.  The rest of the day will be quiet and restful.

Lloyd, glad to see you are not trying to train your new horses by yourself and have someone to do that for you.  Too bad you will have to sell one of them and buy another.  I can just picture you and Nancy riding down the road with your horse drawn wagon.

Sandy, have opened a tab to look at the video of the rollator you have found.

June, sorry to read your cell phone is sick and hope someone was able to help you with it.  Have you tried turning it completely off and thus rebooting it?

deAngel, glad you didn't wash away on Saturday.  Your lunch party with friends sounds nice.  We used to lunch with Church friends about twice a week but that is no longer the case and only been out for lunch with one couple from our Sunday School class on one occasion.

June, no wonder you were having problems with your laptop if you were not using a mouse.  I don't like using the touch pad either and keep it turned off.  It sounds like you had a nice Sunday and a very nutritious meal.  Taking salt tablets and cutting back on water seems counter intuitive as the salt would make you thirsty.

Jane, that does sound like a good meal.  I like kielbasa and cooked cabbage.  Hope you enjoy your luncheon today with your former coworkers.  I hope you will get short lines today.

Amy, I wonder why your town has a garlic festival if they are not big producers of garlic?  Garlic ice cream, no way as why would you want to spoil perfectly good ice cream with garlic.

Gloria, I am sure a fire alarm in the evening has to be quite scary.  It must have been a false alarm.  Seventy-five is a great temperature for a summer day.
I like the idea of the pouch under the seat rather than hanging on the front of the rollator.  Stacey had a bag on the arm of her wheelchair but fit down beside her where she could carry her things.

Joy, I missed your postings.  Sorry you are still having to deal with issues.  Thanks for checking in.  I hope getting your hair done will give you a lift for the day.

BACK TO THE 'ARMCHAIR WALKS'.

Take care, the grass is not as safe as it looks !, Bosham was once a busy port but over the years has silted up and now is used mainly for yachts and fishing boats, the land around Bosham, is mostly at sea level, by the look of things, a storm has just past, as you can see, there is a lot of water still laying around !,if you use a Walker Gloria, do not stray off the path !.
Hello Bubble, sorry I have been missing for a few weeks, our summer weather has been above average this year and at the moment the heat and me do not agree !, so I just took things easy, perhaps too easy !, my wife tells me I slept most of the hot days and did not move on other days !, now it has turned much cooler and more tolerable I hope to be more active, I hope Don is feeling better now too.

We planned to drive to Montana to visit son but smoke from British Columbia fires are making forcing them to stay indoors.  I could have used a rollator yesterday - after taking a hard fall in the church parking lot.  A sign had fallen and I was looking for my car so that didn't help.  Just bruised - very thankful.

So sorry to read about Radioman Don.  I wish him the best and a good recovery.

Good morning everyone...

Overcast here and muggy, think the a/c will be going on for a bit.

Yesterday I heard such a racket coming from the red squirrels, when I looked out I saw momma fox at the feed that I had put out for the family of crows that come each day. I ran for my camera and she ran before I could get a photo....camera shy I guess :)

A knock came on the door around 3:30 yesterday and our friends had brought us lasagna for our dinner!! They had brought us one each but we shared one (more than enough) and have another one for later.

Today is VON  and then I am going to do some relish down. Not sure what else today will bring.

Bubble, prayers for Don that he will be in his new home soon and back to feeling much better. Tell him we miss him and even if he pokes his head in here to say hi is good enough for us till he feels like writing.

Roley, thank you for the lovely walk..always a joy to do in ones own home and I hope you don't mind but I pass these on to friends.

Larry, I guess to draw the tourists in would be my thought. Now there is talk of doing a maple syrup one in the Spring.  Hope you are feeling much better now.

Gloria, I love going to the dump!! I see so many animals, crows, ravens, turkey vultures that sit on the trees/building with wings stretched out and even a bear!! Better than going to a movie for me!

Joy ,good to see you and I hope you soon have your issues under control.

Carol, you are very lucky you didn't break any bones!! Bruising is sore and does take time to heal.

Jane, how was your lunch. Nice to get away and enjoy time with friends.

I had better scoot,

Enjoy your day everyone.

I haven't been here for a long time.  It was nice to read all the friendly chatter going on in Soda Shoppe.  The sun is actually shining this morning!  But, it is supposed to be hot and humid.  I see small "signs" of Fall down through the woods.  I'm ready!

Good morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you, Phyllis.  I've been wondering about you.  I, too am ready for Fall.  And this year, I'm readier than most years.  My TX daughter is coming to see the changing of the seasons.  She wrote to tell me yesterday that she has her ticket for Oct. 18.  And she added that Ali (my granddaughter and mother of Emma) said that she just might come along...and bring Emma!  Things are looking up!

Last night was pretty easy for me.  I wasn't on short lines but I was on the "easier" end of the spectrum.  The bad part of it was that I missed a call from the roof leak fixer and when I called him back, he didn't answer.  I told him I'd be available all day today so maybe I'll get a call back.

Last month, my cleaning gal didn't show.  When I tried to call her to find out why, there was no answer.  I was just beginning to think she gave me up when she called to say that her car had been totaled in an accident and it took her some time to recuperate.  She also lost her phone in the process.  But she's back on track and she'll be here today.  YAY!  I really need her!

I guess that's all that's going on around here right now.  Some good, some not so good but we survive!

I hope you all have a very pleasant day.  Make it yours!  Grab it and do it!

Hi Everyone.  it is another overcast morning but we will be only in the high 80's late this afternoon and a less than 50% chance of rain.  I guess the highlight of my day yesterday was the quick trip to Costco yesterday morning and then yesterday afternoon I purchased a small 7 cubic feet freezer.  It is to be delivered sometime today between 8 am and 12 pm.  We will put it in our garage now that we are down to one car.  It will take awhile to get it stocked up.  We have to let it set for 48 hours before turning it on as it lets the gases resettle from having been moved.

I did enjoy watching a special Antiques Road Show program that took pieces from program back several years ago and at the end of the segment it showed the appraised value then and then again in 2014.  It was a special for the South Carolina Public Television Station's fund raising evening.

Today should be a pretty quiet day. We plan to have a salad supper tonight.  It is easy to do and healthy and Pat made a super dessert Sunday evening that will really top off the meal.

Roley, thanks for sharing another of the armchair walks.  I will view it later this morning.  Maybe you can be a little more active with some cooler weather.

Bubble, thanks for the report on Don and sure not good news that he is getting weaker.  Does he have access to his beloved Classical Music?  I also hope he will be able to get back in his own place with his own things if he is able to do so.

June, it is possible that the mouse you use with your desktop would also work with your laptop.  If not, getting the mouse for the laptop is not an expensive item at all.

Amy, how dare that fox eat what you put out for the crows.  I guess he was being shy and didn't want his picture taken.  I bet he will be back.  How nice of your neighbors to bring you lasagna for your dinner and nice that you will have one to for another meal.  Does your town have antique store or other tourist type attraction stores?  I never found making a trip to the dump to be a pleasant thing and haven't had to do that for many years.  :)

Phyllis, it has been awhile and we have missed you.  Like you I am ready for some fall weather.

Jane, I can imagine you danced a little jig when you found out your daughter will be back in October.  It is nice to have things like this to look forward to.  Even a bonus with the possibility of your granddaughter and great granddaughter also coming along.  I hope you get that call from the roofer today.  Glad you didn't lose your cleaning gal but sounds like she has had a lot of problems to deal with.  I also think that if everything was fine everyday then I wouldn't appreciate them as much as the less than good days help me appreciate the good ones more.

Larry, unfortunately, these rooms in a retirement home are quite small and there is no place for his extensive CD collection nor the equipment. He dearly miss  his radio shows but realizes he would not have been able to continue that. He is loosing his hobbies one by one :( even words games don't attract him anymore.  The challenge seems to be too much.

Reporting that the Aspen trees are turning gold very early this year.  At the same time, we had a record-setting low two nights ago.  Early winter?  We still have poor air quality from smoke coming from the west and NW.

Bubble:  I am sorry to hear about Don's "new normal".  We all dread the loss of our comfort in our lives.  Hugs to both of you.

WOW, nice to have an easy fix Jane!! Plus great to know you can call on them again.

Bubble, can someone put Don's cd's on his computer for him? That was he can at least listen to his music.

VON has been and gone and off we went to pick up red and green peppers plus onions for the pickles  They have all been cut up along with the cucumbers and it is just a wait for 2-3 hours and then I can finish them off.

Good morning every one, slow getting started this morning 61° and cloudy, not one bit of blue showing. Nothing new around here, just the same old things every day. No more socializing like there was when I first moved here.

JOY  my insurance got me a new rollator but I like my old one better. The new one pulls to the right and is hard to handle. I only use it when I  have to go out because it does have good brakes. Only one brake works on the old one but it is comfortable.

LARRY  there are 2 pull cords in here that will summon rescue and the fire alarm goes off. In this case it took them too long to get here but then the fire department is all volunteer. It was the new woman across the hall from me, they did take her out in the rescue. She has only been here 2 weeks and no one has met her yet, she has stayed in her apartment.

PETER  your link says 404 Not Found. I have been enjoying your armchair t ravels. Like you hot humid weather does not agree with me. I rather have a cold day where I can alwas get warm if needed.

BUBBLE  I have been wondering on how Don was doing. I am sorry to read he is getting weaker. He is in my prayers.

PETER  great your second link works. I opened in new window and will read it after I finish here. Thank you.

CAROL  glad you did not do a lot of damage in that fall.

AMY  nothing as good as home made lasagna. One of my favorites and I used to make it often when my family was still home.

PHYLLIS so good seeing you this morning. I start looking forward to fall on the first hot day in the spring.

JANE  I would be lost without the CNA's I have. So glad the roofers are there at last.

Have a good day everyone.

Good afternoon,comfortable day

Bubble, Maybe when Don moves on things will get better. 3 years ago I had a major heart attack. I was sent to rehab for 3 weeks. They got me up at 7, put me in a wheelchair till9PM, in between I Had breakfast, lunch and dinner in my room, always in that wheelchair Once a day they took me to PT and that was the routine  for all those weeks. It took me over a week to back to where I was. I used the walker for about a week after I just kept my cane handy. What I am trying to say I was back around familiar things setting at my desk or table. watching my programs and listening to the radio. OH! and sleeping in my own bed with my happy cat near by. The doctor says my heart get weaker, but I happy here.

JUNE i HAVE A MOUSE FOR MY LAP TOP, COULD NOT USE THE PAD

Did not mean to shout

Phyllis, good tosee you

Roley, thanks
for trip

Jane know you are looking foreward to Oct,

Gloria, if you are having weather like us, know you are enjoying it

Another lovely day is coming to a close. Our high was supposed to be 82 degrees, but by mid afternoon I still need to turn on the a/c. Now it is lovely again.  Had a good lunch downstairs with friends, and I brought half of it home so I will soon put it in the microwave and have my supper.
after lunch I  did the usual nap and reading, then went out for a good walk, and a longer time on the glider where I can exercise both my legs and arms. Nothing  exciting. I did attend a good program this morning though. Discussions on emergency  procedures here at Rowntree. They take such good care of us.

Gloria, how I wish you had good people running your place.

My Gary will be here tomorrow for Bible studies, and I always look forward to that. He is so good to me. And then in the afternoon my monthly doctors visit will take place. Gary wants her to call him, so he can talk with her, so I will deliver the message. She had the lab give me another blood test last Saturday.

Now it is time to have my supper, then a shower, then to bed and book again. I will have two more deliveries.....my breathing stuff, albuteral, by 7 o'clock and last two pills of the day at nine o'clock.

I pray you all have a peaceful night, and a happy hopeful tomorrow. Much Love and  hugs, and prayers always, June

Larry, we've bought 2 freezers over the years & never had anyone tell us to wait before turning on.  On that note, I was not told to get this RV alignment as soon as I bought it, either. The online chat has been talking about the fact that Ford does an alignment when the chassis leaves the factory but the maker of the motorhome (Thor) does NOT, but they sure didn't say to get it done.  Today I had to put on 2 new front tires because "the inside of the tread was bald" with right at 23,000 miles on them and not safe on the highway.  I have an appointment for next Wed to get it alighned (soonest they could get to it).  I was stunned.  IF they had recommended getting it done it would have saved quite a bit. IF my sons had not noticed the wear (kind of had to put your head inside the tire opening)..... a blow out on that heavy vehicle could have/would have been possibly fatal for someone.  I looked at the tires but did not see the "cupping" on the outside of the tread like I've seen on other vehicles....  My mother used to tell me that "you are wearing out your Guardian Angel, Shirley".... you think?

Bubble, I am sorry Don is having a hard time accepting where he is..... no question he has a reason be be depressed, his heart is in Israel, "home" is not home and he loves being the entertainer.  Sometimes (it was with my father), meds are given "so the patient doesn't hate to wake up in the morning" (how it was explained to us), but those meds numb all resolve to work at getting stronger.  My niece has a doctors degree in geriatric pharmacy, lives on the east coast, so we had her fly back to check on Dad & the meds he was given.  She was in charge of the meds for 3 nursing facilities (should say, "worked with the doctors") and told us "that's what we prescribe for our patients."  We were concerned that he was alert & talkative for a few minutes & then sort of "zoned out".  Dad was 95, though, and had allowed his muscles to atrophy to the point he could not stand or help himself at all.  Made such an impression on me I have been overly cautious to note every time I find a new "something" that I can't do any longer.  Difficult to encourage them when meds are working to make them not care.  Prayers for him, and for you, it is always harder on loved ones to watch someone be mentally tortured.

Oh, Janie, I'm so glad caulking did the job, hoped that was the case.    I have the mustard sitting on the stove to cook the recipe Amy sent, that you two make.  Think the boys will enjoy it when sitting around the table out camping.  Both boys watch carbs so bet some brats fresh off the grill would be good dipped in your mustard, right?

Carol, I'm bouncing off the wall to think we might get to see the aspen turning this year, youngest son has not had that pleasure so far.  Thanks for the tip!

Phyllis, been quite a while since you've visited.  I think of you every time I drive through the park across from Back Bay Blvd, and when I stop at Ottawa every time I drive to MO.

Gloria, had another night with the door open for fresh air.... and the head ache to show for it today.  Not sure if the cooler air or all that ragweed pollen that blows in.  Everyone complaining about the pollen this year.  And we used to be so excited for snow!  Could it be we are getting old... older???  Glad you got Skype working.... I still don't have the spell check on this computer, have done every setting change I can but will have to wait until one of my boys rescues me.  I glanced back & caught typos that should have popped up to let me know on the old computers.....  I hate changes.

I've been stopping & starting today & will just shut up for the night.  Sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

JUNE, I like your wish for a "happy, hopefu tomorrow"  I wish that for everyone also!

I'm going off to bed pretty soon too. My roof doesn't leak and my cleaning dynamo was here so the house sparkles.  She had some problems of her own and wasn't here last month.  She was out in the car with her baby granddaughter and had a flat tire.  Her son picked them up, took the home and went back to change the tire.  In the meantime, a truck had come around the bend and hit her car totaling it.  Thank God, she and the baby were not in the car.  The truck driver wasn't hurt but it was his first run alone as a truck driver so I'm guessing that he's got a little trouble of his own.

Now I'm off to bed.  I wish you a peaceful night and (in JUNE'S words) a hopeful tomorrow.

I hope YOUR DAY was a good one and I want to wish you the best for the year to come.  I am sorry to read that you took a fall.  I do hope you recover quickly.

Yesterday we decided to go on a little adventure.  We drove down towards the US Air Force Academy.  We looked at a couple of new housing developments.  We had lunch then went to Cottonwood Canyon State Park.  It was a delightful day.

The details continue to be reported about the horrific killing of a mother and her 2 daughters by the husband/father.  I know it is national news, so sadly many of you are probably being inundated with it as well.  It is just so hard to understand how this possibly could have happened...but it did.

SHIRLEY. so happy to read that you are planning another trip to Colorado before the camp grounds close.  Sadly, they do close so early.  There have been some real signs of fall in the air.  We broke a record low from 1939 two mornings ago.....burrrr.  Tonight I have winter jammies on as it is quite cool.

I wish you all a good night of rest.  Pleasant dreams to all.

Good Morning Everyfriend!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAROL!  Whenever it was, I hope it was happy!

I've been up for a bit.  Let the doggies out and they didn't know if the wanted to walk in the wet grass.  More rain overnight.  I suppose when it stops raining, it will just turn to snow and be even more annoying!

I'll be off to WM at 10.  Wish me short lines and lots of smiles.  And grab a great day for yourselves!

It is so nice to be with you all again.  I feel good when your days are going well and sad when things are not as good as we would want our lives to be.

Shirley, I wouldn't recognize Ottawa now.  Changed completely from when I was growing up there and all my childhood friends are gone.  Used to think of it as "home" but not any more.  So glad you took care of the RV without having trouble on the road.  You are like a cat with 9 lives.

Gloria, I was looking at rollators on line yesterday.  The prices have sure gone up since I bought mine a few years ago.  But, then, so has everything else.

Jane, it is always a big lift when repair work turns out to be less expensive than we are afraid it is going to be.  Glad it went that way for you.

Happy Birthday, Carol.  I remember the cool nights in Colorado.....ahhhhh, wonderful!

Hopefully no rain today.....everyone here is very tired of it.

JaneS it is too bad we cant control the weather to our own taste. but as long as we do not get the flooding,I will take the rain with praise. green grass is much better than dry dead grass even having to cut it to keep the yard looking nice.
it is 62º mostly sunney here and headed for 78º today. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone, raining lightly this morning so the landscapers did not wake me this AM. Thunderstorms in the forecast for later this afternoon.

PETER  that was a different trip yesterday with no talking. Nice to see the houses and the wide open spaces but most of all so many people walking.

LLOYD  several houses around here have those metal roofs now, snow slides off those roofs better than the shingles that most have.

Gloria de  I would go bonkers if I had to sit in a wheelchair all day. Bad enough I cannot move like I used to but with my rollator I can move around and get outside for fresh air most days. The last few days were wonderful but today ended it.

JUNE  wish they would do more here about emergency situations. The answer I always get is that the residents would panic and just bump into each other. Stupid IMO.

SHIRLEY  I dislike  taking any medication, I just want to get rid of the constant pain in my back and so far nothing has helped. The only thing I really trust is aspirin. Spellcheck on S&F has been working for me lately. My grandson installed Open Office on my PC years ago. All I use it for is to type in and copy/paste here. Good spell check in it. It is free so the price is right.

JANE  thank God no one was hurt in the accident to your dynamo's car.

CAROL  Happy Birthday.

JANE  you are already at work and I am still sitting here at the PC, the pleasure of being retired.

PHYLLIS  I am still using the rollator I bought 8 or 9 years ago. If I found one with 4 bigger wheels I think I would buy it fast. That way maybe I could go "off roading?" like walking on grass or around my son's yard

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful morning here in South Carolina but we are headed up to 90 degrees this afternoon.  I am getting the morning off to a slow start but don't have anywhere to go today.  Scott will be out this evening to have dinner with us.  We did get the deep freeze delivered yesterday and it is just the right size for the two of us.

Yesterday evening I noticed there was a special on Betty White on our PBS station at 8 pm.  We watched that and really enjoyed it as I have watched Betty White I guess since we first had television in about 1957.  That was followed by wonderful concert by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra with a marvelous violinist named Zoltán Mága who I had never heard of before.  This was a special Christmas Concert with 16,000 people in attendance and was a program made especially for PBS, which they were using for their fund raising efforts this week.  I only got through about half of it and will watch the remainder of it today.  I just wish I had been recording the whole program and not the last half as it was so enjoyable and such beautiful music.  I found some of his recordings on Spotify.com and am listening to them now.

Bubble, so sorry that Don won't be able to take his CD collection and equipment with him to the retirement home.  Fortunately we now have access to world of all types of music via the Internet.  Spotify is wonderful and with the $10/month subscription you don't have to listen to commercials after every third or fourth things.  YouTube is also nice and many videos of orchestras are available, as I am sure you are well aware.  Does Don know what he will do with his collections and equipment?

Roley, I watched the video link you posted.  I am always taken with how few cars appear on the streets and how many people are walking the paths or riding bicycles and how green everything is over there.  Also the obvious age of the stone work that appears everywhere.

Jane, I didn't know yesterday was National Senior Citizen Day. So glad you got the roof leek fixed and it was only a very minor problem.  Caulking around chimneys and place with flashing gets hard and cracks.  Sure good news that your housekeeper was not in her car when it was hit and thus not injured.

Gloria, it is sad that people in your building do not want to socialize anymore.  I now understand about your fire alarm with the calling for help.

Lloyd, I have seen a number of the metal roofs on building, especially over where I came from.  It is an exciting time for you and Nancy now that you don't have the responsibility for the farm but still have you nice home and the freedom to travel.  I hope you are able to do as much traveling as you want to do.

deAngel, you may have hit the nail on the head with the over medication folks get in rehab or nursing home situation.  This certainly happened with my mother in the special care unit and at one time they had her so drugged that she could hardly eat even pureed food.  The doctor took her off of all of that and she responded and was much more alert but the nursing home wasn't happy as she wasn't as easy a patient and called me to advice if we didn't let them put her back on the medicine we would have to move her.  Supposedly she had made a suggestive remark to one of the mail attendants.  I found it difficult to accept the fact that a man in a ward with dementia patients would react to anything said by a patient.  We had no other place to have her cared for and my father was also in the same nursing home but not that unit.  So we gave an ok for the medication.

June, nice to read that you are once again feeling up to eating meals in the dining room and being around other folks.

Shirley, I had never heard that about waiting and when the freezer was delivered the man plugged it in and I mentioned the need to wait and he said just leave it alone on the factory setting for at least 24 hours and it would adjust itself.  I did bite the bullet and get a three year extended warranty that includes a $200 food replacement allowance if the freezer fails.  Sure glad your son found that your tires needed to be replaced and the home aligned.  I could just picture you flying down the road and you sure don't want a blowout.  Do you still speed along?  I still have a chuckle when I think about you telling us of speeding along in the mountains and getting a ticket.  I am glad you have a guardian angel.

Carol, happy birthday.  However, having aches and pains from a fall isn't the preferred way to celebrate.

Jenny, are you considering moving again since you mentioned looking at new housing development.  You two are to be admired for having such an active life style.  Glad you had a delightful day.  If I heard the news right yesterday the man pleaded only on one death that being of his wife and not the two little girls.

Amy, do you have to get your van undercoated every year?  That is something that isn't needed down here and you see very little rust on cars since not much ice occurs or sanding with salt needed on our roads.

Phyllis, we have also been looking at rollators for Pat.  She has an appointment next month with the doctor and will ask for a prescription for one to see if our insurance will help with the cost.  However, we do want to pick it out even if we have to pay the full cost.

I'm home and I had an express register for my whole shift.  I'm tired but not all the way down to my sox!

I read everything.  Ate my lunch, gave the doggies a snack and I think I'll rest a bit and then head out to take advantage of some of the BOGOs at tone of the supermarkets.  I wouldn't bother but they have some good ones and it ends today.

Enjoy the rest of your day.  I'll be back....maybe!

Saw my doctor in the afternoon..a good and interesting visit.I feel she is like a good dear friend.

I need to get out for a walk...yawning my head off, but I need the exercise. I plan to have supper downstairs as I had lunch at home. So off I go for now. June

Just popping in to see how everyone’s day was.

We had another cooler day....but the weather guessers say the high summer temperatures will return.

No, LARRY.  We are not really planning to move however we would consider it if we could find a home that is smaller than the one we have and already updated. We are at the point that we need to do pretty much everything to our current home and we are not sure we are up to the challenge.  Hope you and Pat enjoyed your evening with Scott.

Bob bought a new iPad today, so he has been busy getting it set up.  I thought I would get one also, but they did not have the color I wanted, so now I am on hold....

I am worried about my cousin and her family that live on the big island in Hawaii as the hurricane is headed their way.  They are preparing the best they can but if it doesn’t turn as expected they could be in sever danger.  I sure a: glad that amark and Megan did not move there or I would be super worried about them!

I wish you all pleasant dreams.

G'Morning all. So pleased that you enjoy the 'Armchair Walks', this one is not in the same category but as the walkers are two American ladies I thought it might be more interesting for you.
This walk is within the 'South Downs National Park' walking eastwards along the South Coast of England, I don't think they mention how many days it took them to walk the 99 miles but, they certainly had good weather !. Enjoy.

Good morning everyone..

Beautiful morning here temp is 40° at the moment..I see hubby has a flannel shirt on!

We don't have anything planned other than house hold chores and I see the green beans are now on so they need to be picked.

Larry, I do get the van done each year as it protects it from rust and as you know our roads here are covered in salt/saline solution in the winter . Hope you enjoyed your dinner and time with Scott last night.

Jane,I am going to check to see if the Red Haven peaches are in and you know what I will be doing!! I have pears leftover from last year so I don't think I will do those  but may pick up some plums to do. Have you doe plums before??

Roley, thank you ,I shall watch this later with my cuppa tea.

June, sounds like you had the perfect day and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gloria, I don't know what I would have done without the rollator for hubby. They are a God send when ones legs just aren't up to par.I also have a transport wheelchair that we used when he had to go from one end of the hospital to the other and the wheelchair made it much easier for him.

I had better get a wiggle on and get my work done.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a cool morning of  62°. Was chilly in here with the AC on all night but felt good to me. Cloudy but will warm  to the upper 70s later according to the forecast. Back to 90s next week, yuck.

PETER  I will check out the link later but I will send it to my grandson and maybe my greatgrandson will like it.

LARRY  it is thanks to the Witch that people are not socializing like they did when I move in here. If we use the kitchen now she goes in an checks it and if she says it is dirty she will lock the doors. If we gather in the community room she says we leave it dirty and will lock those doors. So far we have not heard anything about the meeting we had and so many had complaints.

JANE  one of my CNAs loves to shop especially the BOGO sales and she loves coupons. I know she saves me money when I send her to the market.

JUNE  you sound like me, some days I just do not  want to get dressed and get out but I make myself do it, like you I need the exercise and go out most says and walk around. On the days we have rain I will go downstairs and see if anyone is around.

JENNY  at times when this computer gives me a pain I think I want an iPad. At least I would not have to sit at the desk and could sit somewhere more comfortable.

PETER  I have opened your link in a new window and will watch it later. I cannot imagine walking 99 miles.

AMY  my son had a good crop of green beans this year and I now have some in the fridge. I didn't want to tell him I do not care for them.

Have a great day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's NOT raining here and I'm grateful for that because the bad news is....My roof still leaks and they told me that if the caulking didn't work, I'd need a new (something...I forgot what they called it) but it's up on the top where the two sides meet.

Also, I took a long step coming down the stepladder one of the times and I think I twisted something.  I have a pain that circles my body at low back level.  As a rule, I don't take pain killers but today is an exception.

AMY, I've never done plums.  Is this your first time?  Let me know how they are!

One of my BOGOs yesterday was Bottom cut London Broil on a buy one...get two free.  These are the cheaper cuts so I'm going to do one in the crockpot with an envelope of onion soup mix and a can of cream of mushroom soup and some carrots.  I've done this before and it really turns out tender and tasty.

GLORIA, there's an easy and delicious way to use up those green beans.  Get a small piece of ham and throw it in the crock pot for a couple of hours,  break it up add a couple cups or so of water and dump the beans and some cut up potatoes (with or without the skins), salt and pepper and let it cook on low until the beans and potatoes are cooked and you'll have a meal that would please my entire family and not hard to do. Freezes well, too! AMY, cans well too...in pressure canner because of the meat.  But you probably know that!

JENNY, I'm sure you are thankful that your family didn't move to Hawaii.  I hope your cousin? is safe and that the storm pretty well peters out before it gets there.

I think I'll be spending today dealing with the bogos and getting them ready for the freezer.  Forgot to say that the one store, in an effort to get customers to try their own brand had several bogos that if you buy the nationally known brand you got a freebie of the store brand.  I took advantage of that on two items.  Good deals!

It's cold here today...58º right now but it was in the low 50s overnight.  And it's only supposed to get to 78 at the warmest.  But, like Gloria, the warm temps are coming back later in the week.

JaneS as you where the two sides come together is the ridge cap. a leak up there is a big opening. needs attrition quickly, and at our age we need to not be on ladders. you keep it up and Nancy will be calling you a accident looking for a place same as she dose about me. better to hurt your pocket book instead of you. hire some young man. Have a great day.

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting another beautiful partly cloudy morning and then sunny afternoon with no expectation of rain and a temperature high of about 86.  I have a full morning planned and have already been pretty busy with kitchen chores.  I still will need to fix Pat's breakfast and fold a basket of clothes.  Then I will make a quick stop at the Walmart Pharmacy to pick up a couple of prescriptions and then pick up my friend to go downtown to have coffee with the guys.  I anticipate that we will be having one of our homemade frozen dinners this evening as our main meal.

Jane, glad you had your day on the express register.  It is hard to pass up the BOBO offers on items you would normally buy.

June, you had a busy day.  Glad you like your doctor so much.

Jenny, making a decision to sell and then buy another home at our age and go through the moving process isn't something to be desired, although sometimes it is the thing we have to do.  I know you and Bob have been through the moving process many times so am stating the obvious. We had also moved many times but we were younger and had more energy.  I didn't even consider trying to buy an older home as wanted one that at least started out not needing updating or a lot of maintenance when we moved here and it was the right choice for us.  However, I was certainly glad we didn't wait any longer to move.  It is always exciting to get a new computer for iPad.  At least as of now I have no plans on getting a new iPad as mine still works fine.  I am going to set it up for Pat to use in her sewing room as it will do all the things she does up there.  We talked with Scott last night about giving the laptop that is upstairs to our granddaughter if she wants it.  That sounds like it is going to be a bad hurricane for Hawaii.

Roley, thanks for the new link and I will watch it later today.  A 99 mile walk is a long walk.

Amy, I can so remember the summers when my mother would pick buckets of green beans and we had fresh green beans.  I can still see in my mind my mother and grandmother sitting out on our front porch snapping the beans to prepare for canning and the washing process as well as the cooking process and the jars sealing as they cooled.  We did have a nice time with Scott last evening.  Pat did make the potato soup and he loved it.  However, the cut up ham that she put into it had no flavor so she will go back to using the bacon bits.  The last time I was at Costco I bought a big bag of dried plums, not prunes, and they are delicious.  They add good fiber to our diet and I think they will become a staple of our breakfast diet.  I can understand your comment about the long hospital corridors in the hospital.  Stacey was hospitalized so many times and her rooms was always a long walk from the parking garage as well as the hallway where she had a room.  Fortunately, they had some benches along the walkway and I could sit down and rest for a couple of minutes.

Gloria, when I took the trash can to the street a little bit ago it was cool with a light breeze and low humidity.  It felt so good.  There is not much point in your community kitchen and meeting room if the witch keeps them locked and discourages you from using them.  Is there not a cleaning staff for the hallways and common areas?   She doesn't have to do any of the cleaning does she?  I think you would enjoy having the iPad but would certainly encourage you to get the large 10 inch screen one.  The case I have for mine makes an stand for it to sit so I don't have to hold it up.

Jane, it is a roof ridge that you need?  Sorry you still have the leak but at least you have someone to call.  Sorry to hear you have hurt your back with the stepladder and the bucket of water.

Lloyd, I see we both share a concern for Jane and that ladder business but the weight of the bucket with the water in it.

AMY, I always get special enjoyment when I turn on m computer and there you are with cheerful words and plans for your day. You are a special Joy in my life.

Gloria, I think you and I live very similar lives. We both have caring sons…so we are Blessed with that, plus we are able to get out and walk and even though we don't feel like doing it, we walk anyway, because we need that for our health. I was moving some furniture around this morning and wore my self out, but that's O.K. I now my body is still capable.

Janie, I wish it were cold here…..we stay in the mid 80's day after day after day. I would be so thankful for a good heavy rainstorm. I think you are a very good cook ! You enjoy doing it. Good for you girl.

Larry, I really love my doctor, and she likes me too. She called my son, at his request. She did it while I sat with her, so I overheard some of the conversation. What I heard pleased me. My son is so caring.

It is time for me to scoot down for lunch. I will see you all later. June

Thanks all for your sweet birthday messages.  Those days sure come around fast.  I am feeling better after the tripping fall in the parking lot - called the church and said someone should be out there to check if all the signs are up and not left flat.  All the aches & pain is gone and only a little road rash on my cheek - eye area is almost normal.  I have been using a wrap on one area by my hand and also using the paraffin dip for my hands as they are now not aching so much.  We take our hands for granted.  -- It was not a graceful fall. It was more like someone yelling Timber... and a tree being dropped.

Gloria de:  I hope you can always stay in your apartment for your own comfort.  Can you have a meal brought in for you?

Amy:  I spent this morning forcing myself to machine quilt - uff da - what a miserable job working on an almost queen quilt.  I didn't want to send it out - rather save the money.  Not in a good mood so I walked away and feel so much better and acting nicer.   ::)

Jenny:  I hope the hurricane bypasses the island.  Hey, are you guys looking for a different place?  What kind of place is it?  We lived in the Springs for a time and really liked it - the pace is not as fast as here and it isn't a bad drive except for Monument Hill in snow.

June"  you have a special family.  You deserve the tender care.

Carol this was a very special Birthday for you, since in spite of that wicked fall you had, you are healing, thanks be to God.

A quiet day here. There were things to do, of course, but I enjoy doing what I like best of all. Reading and napping.

I purchased a bottle of my favorite cologne from Amazon and it arrived today. Charlie Blue. This bottle was from Italy. Unusual.

I feel like taking a nice short walk before I settle in for the night. so off I go..May God grant you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love, and prayers. June

Just popping in to say...

Good Night Everyfriend!  I wish you all a restful sleep and a blessed day tomorrow.  You all deserve the BEST!

Forgot to say, the roof leak guys never showed up today.  I don't understand these young people who say they're going to do something and then have a complication and don't think it's necessary to call and tell someone who is waiting that they won't be able to make it.  I must be old fashioned but I think that's part of business.  I know they'll be here because they said they would and for some reason, I believe them.  But....

Oh well, I'm off to Dreamland!

Good evening.  We warmed up here today but it is nice and cool tonight and we are sure enjoying it.  The smoke haze was quite a bit better also.

We met my cousin, his daughter, her daughter and the granddaughter for lunch today.  Did you get all of that?? Haha.  This cousin and I did not spend any time together when we were growing up, but we try to get together as often as possible to make up for lost time.

The hurricane is continuing its course into The Hawaiian Islands.  So far it has not slowed down or turned as they hoped it might, so they are preparing for the worse.  My cousin has done a few videos from her home.....showing how they have tried to prepare for this storm.  She is very possessive about their being OK, but I do not get that feeling from what I see in the video.  I certainly hope and pray she and her family will be safe.

Good for you, JUNE, ordering your favorite cologne.  I hope you enjoy it. Happy that Gary was pleased with what your doctor had to share with him about your health.

AMY, I sure wish I could help you pick those green beans and get to enjoy them with you.

GLORIA, Bob and I both enjoy using our iPads.  We sit in our recliners, AKA our RECHARGERS, and we enjoy them very much.

JANE, I am so sorry to read that your roof did leak and that you are waiting for the roofers to return.  Sadly, many these days say all the right things, but they just do not have the work ethics that WE have and expect them to have! 😡

LARRY, happy that you did enjoy a nice evening with Scott.  Glad he too enjoyed the potato soup even if the ham did not meet up to Pat’s expectations.  I know ai sure would enjoy that soup.

CAROL, your fall sounded pretty serious, so I am happy you are doing as well as you are.  We are just looking at our options regarding a move or biting the bullet and remodeling this place.  Either option is way more than we feel like dealing with to be honest.  We would not mind the distance to the Springs, as we are looking in the area just to the east of the academy.  We lived in that area in a brand new home in the early 70’s and I will never forget the WIND that we had to deal with at that time....
Other than that, I have always loved the Springs.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND......

Jenny

Good morning everyone..

Looks like another grand day in the making here. I trimmed some trees yesterday and have two bags of branches and some limbs to go to the dump this morning. We will head on up to the Mennonite market to see if they have the Red Haven peaches in.

Jane, I haven't done plums down before but willing to give it a go....will let you know how I make out. Have a great day at work..lots of smiles..

Carol, oh my , that is a huge undertaking..your shoulders are going to be sore!! I wish you luck on this.

Jenny, you would be more than welcome. I like my greens beans with a bit of bacon in them too...but really any way is fine with me. We really enjoyed them last night for supper....even the dogs love them.

June, thank you for your kind words . We love reading your posts and pray that you have a wonderful day. Love hearing about your stay there, food you get and of course your sons.

I am running out of time better go get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning from the warm but less humid,
rocky coast of Maine.

Carol ..

I really feel for you..  Failing takes it toll
on us.... even only to undermine our confidence..
(if we are fortunate enough not to get broken).

That free falling  flying through the air
left a  pit in my stomach that I can't seem
to overcome when away from home.

I know from experience after failing and
breaking my arm a few months ago,  that
I am no longer confident going out alone
into the streets where my walk ways are
unknown to me like they are here in my home.
(I still even walk into walls here... but very
very slowly.. :idiot2: )

That is why I am choosing to purchase
a good "Rollator" for  myself,  so  I can
venture out with more confidence.

I hope that you heal up quickly  and can
move on beyond that "fear of falling" that
follows  those of us who have experienced
a bad one.

Best wishes .

Good morning everyone, a wonderful cool start to today at 54°, a taste of fall.

JANE  got caught in a sudden rain yesterday morning when I was out for a walk. Got chilled in the cold rain so made a small stew and added those beans to it, not bad at all and I warmed up after eating.

LARRY when and IF I get  an iPad I would want all the bells and whistles including a keypad and mouse. We have 1 maintenance man who is always busy. When anyone uses the community room they have the job of leaving it clean, same with the big kitchen down there.

JUNE  I no longer move furniture. I do not have strength for that anymore. I used to move my furniture all around when I was much younger, even moved my fridge across the kitchen.

JENNY  I have no room for a recliner but my couch is comfortable to sit on.

SANDY  without my rollator I would not be walking anywhere.

Time to go make my breakfast so have a great day everyone.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful morning and when I went out to the mailbox it actually felt a bit chilly.  Yesterday was a beautiful day and it appears today will be the same.  I have an appointment with my cardiologist this morning and on the way back will stop at our Community Ministries Thrift Store to drop off a couple of bags of clothes from Pat and then stop at Aldi's for a couple of items as it is on the path home.  The housekeeper will be here this morning and I think we will be staying in the rest of the day.  We have leftovers in our refrigerator for a good meal this evening and then we plan on eating out tomorrow afternoon.

June, shame on you for moving furniture.  You don't need more back problems or another fall.  It nice that your doctor talked with your son while you were in the room.  You are sounding more like your normal self and I hope that means you are feeling more upbeat and in less pain.

Carol, Pat has one of those paraffin dip units but it has been a long time since she has used it.  Glad you are feeling about over from the effects of your fall.  Pat has done some machine quilting and years ago hand quilted a beautiful white on white king size quilt that is hanging in our entryway.  I am sure she will not machine quilt anything very large ever again but will have it professionally done.

Jane, I don't understand why a quick call cannot be made when someone has given their word.  We all can understand changing circumstances may cause us to change a plan and most people are accepting of things if they are advised that a change is necessary.  It seems to me that is terrible for business.  I was very pleased with the attention to detail by Best Buy in the delivery of the freezer this week and so indicated in a survey I did this morning.

Jenny, good to read your smoke haze has lessened.  Nice you could enjoy the lunch with family members.  I have no relatives close except for our son and granddaughter and we are seldom seeing the granddaughter.  I sure hope your cousin in Hawaii weathers the storm well.  Are they on the main island?  Pat fixed two sweet potatoes in the Instant Pot last evening and they were great with a little butter and some cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Amy, I hope your trip to the market is successful and you find the peaches you want.  Have you ever fixed your green beans in bacon grease or perhaps lard?  My grandmother made them and I can still recall what a great taste they had.  They were very tasty.

Sandy, we are also enjoying less humidity and milder temperatures but understand that will end in the next day or so.  However, enjoying them while we can.  It sounds like the Rollator will be very helpful to you. Pat is still looking at the various ones but would like to actually sit in one and try it out before buying.  We do have a medical supply store nearby that we are going to check out to see if they have any on display.

Gloria, sure hope the rainy and chilly weather don't develop into any respirator problems for you.

Lloyd, hope you day continues to be pleasant.

Sandy:  Thank you for your sweet and caring note.  I will try to be more vigilant when walking.  You take care too.

June:  Enjoy your new cologne.

Jane:  Years ago, two guys working on redoing a bathroom did not show up - I called the mother of one and she called them back from a hunting trip.  I thought they needed to "grow up".   :)

Jenny:  Once upon a time, we lived east of the academy too - it was a smaller city then.  Write down all the pros and cons and that will help you.

Gloria:  Stew and soup sounds good anytime.  Especially when you feel chilly.

Amy:  I can see a mistake in this quilt and will not take it apart - we used to say.  If you let someone look at your quilt, they have to ride by on a galloping horse.... something like that!

Good Morning "dear hearts and gentle people" ! That is a song if I remember  correctly, I am so happy…..our weather is to be cloudy all day. Not that I am so fond of cloudiness, but I am so weary of sunshine.

I did take a nice walk last evening and plopped down on a glidder half-way through the walk. Said goodnight to several people who had been visiting their loved ones. Our Pastor came through, and he took my hand and we chatted for a bit. All in all, it was a lovely evening. I was out there for over and hour.

Lloyd, we too are cloudy and headed for 82 degrees. Hope you are feeling better my friend.

Larry, thank you for your kind words, my body seems to have felt no bad effects of my furniture moving. I did not try to pick up anything…..I just dragged it…but got a bit breathless,so rested in between the "drags."

Amy, your kind posts really lift me up. Thank you dear friend. I know I am better, but I also know that my body and mind are changing..I find myself saying out loud, "I'm tired God." And I am. My Gary is concerned that I am failing, so I try to re-assure him. My older son, Dan, agrees with my aging, as he is 70 now and has physical problems of his own that limits what he can do, so he understands what is going on with me.He hasn't seen me for nearly a year though, where Gary is here every other week.

My cleaning lady was here and changed the linens on my bed and in the bathroom, and she will return later to do the "deep cleaning" which includes vacuuming, scouring  appliances, disinfecting drains and dusting. When she returns I will tad my book and go to our third floor lobby and read. I feel so well cared for. Thank you God.

I'm here to apologize for my bad mouthing of the roof guy.  He did call.  It must have been while I was out for the mail.  And I didn't check it until I was on my way to bed.  He said that the job they were on first thing in the morning ran into so problems and too, them longer than they expected.  He promised that they would be here today and assured me that I didn't need to be here.  They knew what they were going to do and would just go ahead and do it.  I don't know if they've been here or not until it rains again or they call me or I call them.  But he proved himself up to my standards.

OK day at work.  But I'm glad I'm home.  And I'm glad I don't have to go back until Monday.

Dinner was very good last night and there are leftovers for tonight.  I'm going to make some mashed potatoes to go with it today.

Think I'll check to see if there are any zzzzs left on the sofa.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

Mycheal, thank you for your kind remarks. I miss you. I am doing my best to keep going, but I do tire quickly...and why not ? I am getting older.

Jane, we hear of so many organizations...roofers included, that are crooked so I hope you will be home when they arrive so you will know they were there. I do not want you climbing ladders my girl.

I had a nice lazy afternoon. Had a hearty lunch downstairs, so came home, opened my book, closed my eyes and napped. Woke when the girl came in to deliver my daily vitamins, so read and napped some when she left.

I just came back from a short walk, and some time exercising my legs in the rocking recliner. Now it is time for a light supper....cottage cheese and canned fruit, then back to book and eventually bed. And so goes the day. Much to be thankful for. Hugs Love and Prayers to all of you, my dear ones. June

G'morning , This is another old Church for Amy and Gloria and anyone else who would like a little tour around the Sussex countryside, Gloria, my wife Jean, has just bought a 'Rollator' she intends to walk up to the Village Green this afternoon with 'Alfie' (our dog), I think we will make a fine sight !, Jean with her Rollator and me in my wheelchair !, never in a thousand years did I think we would celebrate our 62nd wedding anniversary
like this!, but hey, it's a brilliant sunny day and a lot cooler too, it's a great shame we are now moving the into autumn weather now, how quickly the time seems to have passed this year, I still have no recollection of my five weeks in hospital at the beginning of the year, so that probably accounts that !. lol, hope you enjoy looking around this old church.

Good morning everyone, another nice cool night for sleeping with windows open. Tonight is supposed to be te same but Monday the heat and humidity returns with a possible heat wave. Well it is still August. Yesterday was wonderful weatherwise. More people were out  on the porch or walking around than I have seen all summer.

LLOYD  Hawaii sure has not been a paradise this year between the volcano erupting and not that storm and so much rain.

LARRY  for 2 mornings now it was in the mid 50's when I got up, love that coolness. What Gloria were you speaking to yesterday about respirator problems. Must be Gloria de because I have no breathing problems. Just the damp weather makes the arthritis worse.

CAROL  wonder if we all had a problem with getting someone to fix a problem. For me where I was living I called the landlord that my kitchen sink was plugged up. Had a problem since I moved into that apartment. I kept calling him and he kept saying he would be there. Last time I called his wife answered the phone and I told her I had been doing my dishes in the bathroom sink. He was there the next day. Mistakes? I knitted a fisherman sweater for my daughter with all the cables. Took a long time but I was very careful. When it was finished and I blocked it I saw a mistake in one of the cables near the waistband but I was not going to take the whole thing apart. She did not notice it till I told her where to look.

JUNE  when my daughter first moved to San Diego in one of her letters she said she never thought she would be tired of sunshine but would love to see some rain.

JANE  you will know when you get the bill if the roofers were there or next time it rains.

PETER  I did like that  90 mile walk. You and your wife are so lucky to be celebrating 62 years of marriage. Not many make it to 50. Will watch the link when I finish here. Thank you for all the traveling you do for us.

LLOYD  we are in for a repete of yesterday here and that was about perfect for me. I am having a problem with the Skype update, too different from what I was used to.

AMY  you only slept late because you needed that sleep.

Have a good day everyone.

Roley, a few years ago I went to visit a cyber-friend from North Carolina. He too was in a w/c after a motocycle accident. Another common cyber-friend from Australia joined me  for that visit.  She was with a scooter (spina bifida). Another common friend From Tennessee came with his rollator. I of course was on my w/c.  The four of us went shopping in Office Depot and other big stores.

I can tell you we were very much a sensation, especially when my chair overturned with me, on a display of CDs: there  was a sudden sharp slope on the flooring, hidden by the wall to wall carpeting. The noise brought about 6 or 7 selling guys around - ha ha ha.  But that was helpful to get me back on the chair.  I could not stop giggling...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and about since 6:30 or so.  I made dog food, have chicken in the crock pot and water filling the washer.  I'm going to change the bed and remake it, wash a light load and a dark load and then....whatever happens, happens.

I hope you all have a great day.  Happy Anniversary Roley!  My sister and brother celebrated their 65th this summer and you just reminded me that I forgot it!

Hi Everyone. This is going to be another beautiful day here in South Carolina with the sun and a few clouds but will be dry and less humid.  It is suppose to get up to around 90 late this afternoon.  I did have my appointment yesterday with the cardiologist and had a very long wait to see him.  It was two hours from the time of my appointment until I was in the car headed back toward home.  He did increase my Entresto medication and I will see him again in four months.  On the way home I make a breif stop to drop off the clothes at the thrift shop, picked up Chick-Fil-A sandwiches for our lunch and made a quick stop at Aldi's on the way home.  I was glad we had decided to wait until today to go out to eat as I was pretty tired and still feeling the effects of it this morning.  I plan on staying home until we go out to eat later this afternoon and taking things easy.  I plan on watching some golf later this afternoon.

Carol, I guess you found out the priorities of the two guys working on redoing your bathroom.  However, it sounds like mother was a powerful influence.  Good for you not taking your quilt apart.  None of us are perfect and that little mistake makes your pattern unique from everyone else's that makes the same pattern.

June, I am also familiar with "Dear Hearts and Gentle People" as it was quite popular when I was growing up. Glad you are getting some cloudiness out your way.  That sounds like a delightful evening you enjoyed on the glider and the chance to talk with your Pastor.  Glad to see you didn't have any ill impact from moving your furniture.

Jane, glad your trust in your roofer were restored in finding he had called to explain not making it to your house.  Glad to see you have a couple of days off from work.  I expect weekends are a bit busier with shopper than during the week.  Our local news media has done a lot of reports on an unethical pool installer who takes a big down payment the job and then does a little work and never bothers to come back.

Roley,  my wife has been doing some serious online shopping to find a Rollator for her to use that I can get into the car.  Congratulations on being wed for 62 years.  That is quite an accomplishment.  You are 5 years plus on us as our next one will be 57 years.  Neither one of us ever expected that I would live to be as old as I am. We have some wonderful tools available to us to help us be mobile.  Probably a good thing to not have to recall your 5 weeks in the hospital as that is a long time.

Lloyd, your weather forecast sounds like it would be a good day to take in some Western's on your TV and stay in where it is cool.

Amy, while I would be happy to help Lloyd I really don't use Skype anymore so have no experience with the newer version.

Gloria, I was referring to you but should not have used the work respirator and just breathing problems.  You had indicated you had gotten wet in the rainy and chilly weather.  I try to distinguish between your and Gloria De by referring to her by the screen name she used to use here. I hope you have some fall weather where more people will want to be on your porch and you will have an opportunity to visit with them.

Bubble, that was a memorable experience with you and your friends in wheelchairs and being from so many other places than North Carolina.

roley…..I wish you and your wife a VERY happy Anniversary. I too had a 62nd, wedding anniversary , but that was 13 years ago.

Larry, I am sure your morning was very tiring, but you are wise enough to know when you must rest. Today they are have day long celebration in our big courtyard. I can see most of it from my windows, but I will stroll down and sample all the goodies. It is called Multiculture day, so there will be booths with food from various countries. We had one last year too, and it was Soooooo crowded.

Janie, I pay 55 dollars a month to have my laundry done here in our basement. †hat is 5 dollars a week, and I think that is a bargain. They do a lovely job too.I didn't have enough to bother with last week, so I just skipped putting my bag out for the girl to pick up. We use a mesh back and set iit just inside our door so the girl can pick it up even if I am not home.

Well, I have done my daily readings, had a light breakfast and now it is time to dress and go stroll the courtyard. It starts at 10, ends at 2.The staff and volunteers will be tired before it gets all cleaned up and stacks of chairs will be put away…..God Bless them.

see you later, June

Such interesting stories about a few repair people not showing or walking away with unfinished jobs.

Larry;  Thanks for saying that - I am slowing down and it isn't fun to redo work.   From a Galloping Horse, we can't see the flaw.

Bubble:  I kept thinking you were writing about a Water Closet (w/c.    :2funny:

Jane:  You just Keep On - Keeping On!  Atta Girl!

June:  $5 per week for doing your laundry sounds very reasonable to me.  It would be a lot for you to get up and down and wait for the machines so this sounds like a great idea.

CAROL, the last load is in the dryer and everything else is put away. The roof is repaired but my microwave died this morning.  Sometimes, the "keeping on" is almost overwhelming but what else can we do?

The chicken in the crockpot is finished and cooling so I can deal with it.  I need to go down to the corner to get the mail and I turned down a trip to the Amish Store with my daughter.  I need to conserve $$$ this week....maybe next week, too but that's OK,  All's well!

I hope all's well with all of y'all, too!

Another day on the down slide. Hanging laundry out allows one to enjoy the outdoors. I listened to the loon flying over and then right overhead raven said hello while I was watching two Monarch butterflies dancing on the lawn. Managed to bring the laundry in before the rain drops too!! Baked a cherry pie and put some in the hidey hole  for you. The peaches we bought yesterday are still not ripe enough to can but there are a few for eating :) Lawn did not get done......maybe another day it will.

Jane, did you not just have that microwave repaired?

Carol, I do thin we are our worst critics when it comes to quilting. Now you have a very unique quilt.

Larry, my son was at Patriot Point today and thoroughly enjoyed it...….all but the hot weather :)

Yep! You're right, AMY!  That was the one that was repaired this early Spring.  I think it's a 4-month microwave.  I got it for Christmas, had it repaired in April and now it's dead again.

Back when I was learning to sew and knit, both my mother and my grandmother told me on various occasions that it's the mistakes and imperfections that make an item uniquely YOURS.  They both said that if it's perfect, there's something wrong with it.  I can live with that!  Of course, there were some things they wouldn't put up with...like mismatched plaids and stripes and I did hear a lot of "Rip it outs" when I was learning!  But I learned well!

Everything I planned for today is done and a few extras, too.  So now I'm going to "rest on my laurels".

My post was here, now it is gone! Gone, gone!

I forgot I left it and when I remembered it was too late.  I have done this before so one would think I would have learned the error of my ways....BUT, I guess not!

I was commenting that we were sad to see that John McCain past earlier this evening.  It was expected, of course, but not today after the announcement, just yesterday of him discontinueing his cancer treatments.  Our family will be forever thankful to this man for giving our Dr. Dave his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

I was watching Perry Como on our local PBS station....... I got caught up with that and then a tribute to The Carpenters.....that is why my post sat long enough to disappear! 😡

I truly forgot the personal comments I made so 8 had best just say good night to all.

Pleasant dreams.

Good morning everyone, another cool night for sleeping, getting spoiled with the last 3 nights but tonight will be the last one because tomorrow according to the forecast the heat any humidity return.

BUBBLE  I think it is wonderful now that people with handicaps can get out and travel and are not confined to their homes anymore. I know without my rollator I would never go out  of my apartment without someone helping me.

JANE  every year my daughter send me a calendar and she writes all birthdays and anniversaries on the right months/days. I would forget most of them.

LARRY  that was a long wait to see your cardiologist. It is sad here how few go outside anymore. On weekends very few go out. Those few more who do on the weekends do because the witch is not here.

JUNE  glad my CNAs can do laundry. The washers are too bog for me to get the clothes out and the dryers too deep for me to reach the back to get the clothes out.

AMY  I never minded hanging clothes on the line even in winter. Always felt and smelled better than being in a dryer.

JENNY  I was sad when I heard about John McCain's passsing this morning. I always liked him.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another moderate day temperature wise with no rain.  I will be going to Sunday School shortly as it is my day to give the devotional.  Then I will come home and pick up Pat and we will go to Church and then out to eat somewhere.  I think this will be the first time Pat has been out of the house for a week.  I plan to watch the end of the golf tournament later this afternoon.  We did not go out to eat yesterday as we had planned as neither of us really felt up to it.

June, I hope you were able to enjoy the Multiculture day yesterday.  That sounds like a bargain on your laundry as you would likely spend that much on self-service machines unless yours are free for the tenents.  It sounds like you had a really full day yesterday.

Carol, we all probably have a tendency to want our work to be "perfect" but that just isns't the way things are.  I have found that the truth of the matter is that other people really don't care and just appreciate what we have done.

Jane, fortunately microwaves are not very expensive anymore unless you have a built in one over your stove and even then they are not like the cost of a refrigerator or washer and dryer.  Maybe your children would consider that a good an useful gift for you.  I know we always had a problem thinking of something that my folks would like.  Most of us don't need anything else to sit on a shelf and collect dust. I would think your microwave would still be under warranty if you just got it last Christmas. Your mother and grandmother were so right about mistakes and imperfections.

Amy, I am not familiar with Patriot Point.  Where is it located?

Jenny, I figured when they made the announcement about John McCain stopping treatment that the end must be near for him. I see you have a special attachment to him because of Dr. Dave.

Roley, yesterday I watched the two video links you had posted recently.

Gloria, what a thoughtful gift that the calendar your daughter fixes for you is and sure it is very helpful.

Lloyd, I hope you get your computer back in shape soon.  Hope you enjoyed the annual senior fund raiser.

Good Sunday morning.  Another beautiful day starting.

Just wanted to stop by and say hello.  I have not been around  very much, as I still am having some health issues.   I think I am feeling better this morning, but just have not been sleeping very well, and that really is wearing me down.  But, that, too, will pass.

I hope to be able to sit outside later today.  It just has been such nice weather.  After all the rain,  the sun is so welcomed.

I hope everyone will have an enjoyable Sunday.

Good morning.  The sun is up and so is the temperature and the humidity.  We had really nice weather for the last couple of days with lower temps. and lower humidity but since it is still August we can expect some more uncomfortable days.

I'm a little stiff this morning.  My son and I worked on trimming the hedge in front of the house.  It had grown so much from all the rain this summer and really needed to be cut back.  David usually handles the yard work but with all of the new growth he was becoming a little overwhelmed so I got out my well-used and trusted Fiskars and tried to help a little.  I'm paying for it this morning but the soreness will eventually go away.

Carol, I always said the the "gods" didn't like humans to be perfect so even if I hadn't made a knitting mistake I would make a tiny one on purpose so the "gods" wouldn't be angry with me.   ;)

Did I hear my name?

Not quite OBE (overcome by events) but have been pleasantly busy.  Most of my computer time has been working on a couple of projects I agreed to do for an organization and an HOA committee.   :computer:
Son gave me links to information for the committee project and then told me "play with the sites".  Uh-huh!  :crazy2: Finally managed to find, compile and print out what I wanted  but was about ready to take back his invitation to come to a birthday dinner tonight.  :noway:

I enjoy reading about what each of you is involved with but have been spending more time in discussions about books, t.v. shows and webcams because I can contribute more to those threads .

Off to get ready for church but probably not OTL because I'll need to get ready for the birthday dinner.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Jane, your comment about the "rip-outs" reminded me of when my daughter was in high school sewing class... had to buy her extra spools of thread to make her skirt because she had to do it over so many times.  She learned the basics, anyway.  I never thought about having a microwave be repaired because I buy the cheapest Walmart or Kohl's carries (that is big enough for any bowls I already have).  The first one we had was big, did everything but I never used for anything but reheating coffee or to nuke a TV dinner.  Think it lasted more than 20 years, from then on it's been the cheapies & they do all I care to do.  I still use a pressure cooker & cast iron Dutch ovens & don't plan to change my ways.  :uglystupid2:

Bubble, I can imagine your giggles when you turned over.... better to laugh that cry and I'm sure you were an expert at putting people at ease.  When my son had the braces on both legs a metal contraption was held together around the waist, attached to each leg.  He sort of sat in the padded brace for each leg.  His legs dangled with little wheels mounted on the side of each shoe attached to the braces so the feet could slide up & down, & braces had a tire like pad with heavy metal "stand" that went 3" below his feet.  He didn't bend & had to use crutches to balance as he walked.  When we were shopping at a mall store that had an escalator to the level below, I told him to wait above, look around and I would be right back.  He was about 7 to 8 years old at that time, knew no fear and rationalized that I was taking too long ( was staning in line to pay).  All of a sudden I heard gasps, everyone was looking at the escalator... watching my son glide down with his crutches slipped over his arm... grinning from ear to ear at the ride.  I rushed to help him get off, no problem, he was pleased with himself.  We even rode back up without indident.  Like you, nothing kept him from doing what he wanted to accomplish.

We had T-storms during the night, all cats were in so not worried about them, BUT was awake anyway.  Joy, like you, the past week I was lucky to get 3 hours sleep any night.  Try to catch some zzzzzzzzzs during the day & those darn robot calls seem to know when a body is drifting off.  Would like to bite the end off the phone.  Grrrrrrrrrr.   Cats are turning me into a nocturnal animal, doesn't work too well.

Really hot & humid today, hurts after a few days of fall feeling cool.  I've lived in KS since Dec of 1960 and cannot remember any summer being so humid.  whine-whine-whine  (Gloria, I need support for hating this weather!)

Good morning, Callie, did you sent those storms or did they come from "up north"?  Rain gauge showing an inch & 1/4, will be sticky this afternoon.  I attended the birthday party for the red headed gr-grandaughter yesterday.  Didn't stay very long, a room FULL of 5 year olds plus some younger ones (cousins, mostly) that came along to play in the inflatable water house. Since all the parents are friends they stay with the kids & visit until party is over.

Wishing everyone a fantastic day, enjoy the moment.

SHIRLEY, when my daughter had to take home-ec in Jr. Hi she asked me one day if something had to be done "that way".  I told her that when she was doing it for school she should do it exactly as the teacher told her to do it and then I'd teach her the short cuts when she came home.  She was 12 and already knew some of the short cuts.  She loved sewing as much as I do.

LARRY and SHIRLEY, I don't think I'll have to worry about the microwave.  It was a Christmas gift from my son and he's the one who fixed it.  He sells them and fixes them in his TV and appliance business.  But I bet it won't get fixed again.  I bet I get a new one.  I'll let you know.  I told him last night that it died again.  He doesn't talk.  He just does!  Gets that from my Dad.

I was going to have a tomato sandwich with tomatoes from the Farmers' Market but I decided to just cut it up and eat it with a little salt on it.  UM-ummm gooood!

Other than "killing" my old microwave by putting a partially baked potato in it for too long, the only problem I've had with my current one is the turntable motor quit and I had that replaced.  If we must replace the current microwave, I'll get a table model because I am too short to get bowls out of the oven.  If something has a handle or if it is on a plate, OK, but bowls are too heavy and too hot for me to handle.

In Home Ec in the 7th grade, I made a two-piece outfit, complete with covered buttons.  It was a tweedy blue/green fabric and if I do say so myself, I did a pretty good job (sewing was not, nor is, my strong suit).  With the outfit, I often wore a kelly green sweater and my mother was horrified because they really did not go together.  That didn't bother me and I loved the combination.

Amy, I was surprised to find that Patriot's Point was in NC; I expected it would be in Canada somewhere.  I also had never heard of it.

Phyllis, it was good to see a post from you.  You were missing far too long.

Joy, I'm sorry your ills are still with you.

Larry, I too figured when Mc Cain discontinued treatment for his cancer that his days were numbered, but I did not expect it to be the next day.

I have a lot of "unavailable" calls but with Caller ID, I can ignore them.  I just had a call with the name SSI.  I didn't answer it, but the voice on my Caller ID told me it was a call from "see".  I get some interesting pronunciations on my phone - even if Tom calls me, the voice (female) says Tuck, not Tock.

I had a great day yesterday, plus I went down for the Hymn sing in the evening. Home to shower, then on to the breathing machine  for 20 minutes and finally to bed and book. Went to Chapel this morning, a good service as always. a huge Sunday dinner of chicken cordon bleu, baked potato, three vegetables and there is desert left in my fridge...N.Y. still cheese cake. So for supper I will eat light..cottage cheese, canned peaches, and my cheese cake

Life is good, thanks be to God.

Larry we do have a free laundry room just about 30 feet down the hall from my apt. but I hate the new machine they put in. and I found myself really tired from the job, so I talked to my kids and they said , by all means....do it, and I haven't been sorry.Every thing comes back nicely folded or on hangers. They pick it up on Thursday and it is returned on Friday.

We have a high of 82  low of 66. I should not complain, but how I would enjoy a good rain storm.

JUNE, I'd have been happy to share some of my rain storms with you...especially the ones that were coming through my roof.  It's fixed now, thank goodness!

I had the rest of my lunch tomato in a sandwich for supper and the rest of the roast beef on the side.  I'm going to have some cantelope later.  I've discovered that it's just as good for the doggies as it is for me and I'm happy to have found a snack I can share with them without guilt.

I think I enjoy my church service as much as you do, JUNE, even if it isn't my son up there.  I sit in the same pew in the same church where I used to share my Sunday Mornings with my parents and my sisters.  It brings them closer every Sunday.

I hope you all had a Super Sunday.  Thanks Callie and thanks for checking in.  We miss you when you're gone.  You too, JOY, thanks for checking in...Phyllis, too!

Mary Ann, after 10years, I just bought a new GE counter top micro wave  It was $7990watts, so far I am happy with it, nothing fancy

June, so happy to see you getting around more.

see my pulmonary doctor to morrow

Janie, I think it is beautiful that you have stayed in the same town you grew up in. I have cousins in Mn. that lived all their lives in St. Peter, Mn. Some on farms, some in town. Most are deceased now, but  keep connected to daughter of one cousin. We have sort of lost contact now…my fault.

Gloria de, I pray you will have good news from your heart doctor tomorrow. I see my doctor once a month. I have multiple problems that are not curable, but every day is a gift, so I enjoy life, one day at a time.

I'm going to have my light supper now, and since I just spent nearly an hour in our garden…using the glider, which gives good exercise to the legs, plus walking, so I am at home for the rest of the day.

I pray you all have a peaceful night and a happy, healthful tomorrow. Hugs, Love, and Prayers, always, June

June, that was so inspiring... thank you.

I just got up from a nice 2 hour nap so may have a strange night.... but feel like I could fall asleep right now. Did not go down to the river and too dark now, mosquitoes would attack.

Mary Ann, this kitchen doesn't have a lot of counter space so not long after we moved in we bought a nice wooden tea cart to hold the microwave and coffee pot.  I keep a pretty tea towel on top of the microwave with coffee mugs upside down on it so anyone can help themselves to a cup of coffee without asking where the cups are. It has a leaf that can be extended to hold dessert when we have company.  Pretty handy.

Jane, I manage to go to the church I grew up in about every time I go "home".  Pretty sure Mom is hanging around to smile,  I also visit their graves with fresh flowers (even if they are the fake kind).  While I think of it, that mustard recipe that you & Amy make, does it keep for quite a while (in the frig) or does it take a while for the flavor to really soak in?  I want it fresh for the camping trip, should be good to dip the brats in, especially the new hot ones from Johnsonville.  Like you, I love to sew but especially coming up with a new idea to remodel anything.  My poor home ec teacher gave me credit when whatever I was making came out okay.  I wanted a "broomstick" type skirt for Sadie Hawkins dance, jagged hem but still hemmed.  She thought it had to be hand done so I showed her that turning the hem up to sew the  "V"s with machine, trim the edges & folding it back under.... and it worked better than I hoped.  I hand hemmed that part, the V cut outs were neat (it was a plaid print) & I had an unusual skirt for the dance. I've had my failures over the years.  :uglystupid2:

Amy, I'm going to see if I can get your links after I post....or would forget to post, one thing at a time.

Phyll, it took me nearly a week to recover from going crazy with the weed whip down by the river path & in the berm. Sadly, it was all grown back before I was ready to take it on again. I decided to wear my Wellington boots that daughter got me in London... knee high.  You would have died laughing at my struggle to get them off, was afraid I might have to sleep in them. Next night I decided to put baby powder around the inside of the calf & shook some in the heel, helped a little but still worked up a sweat pulling them off.  The last time I filled my hand with powder & patted inside the thigh part, shook more in the heel & put my feet in without any struggle.... and noticed they were NOT MY BOOTS but the ones I keep for when either of my sons want to go down to the river.  They do smell good, though.

Better see if cats want their midnight snack early.  They finally went out a little while ago, been in all day & last night. Mama Callie has been staying in the garage & hides every time I open the door to get the car out.  She decides when she wants her meals in the garage or come inside to eat with her kids.  She loves when I come out to walk around the yard, down to the river or visit a neighbor, follows me like a dog.  So this is life in Kansas, August 2018.

Gloria de... hope your report is good from the doctor.  Good night, June, I'll turn out the light.

Amy, here's links to the Hutchinson Cosmosphere... camping & all.  Much like what you posted.  That was neat, kids do have a lot of advantages we never thought of "back in the day".

Good morning everyone.

Foggy here this morning, sure hope it won't be tomorrow morning as we are on the road early! We are off to the Dr. this morning, will stop at a vegetable stand to see if they have peaches then home.

Shirley, yes the mustard will last for a while in the fridge.....I always make a double batch as we enjoy it along with family members too.
Thank you for the link will check it out in a bit.

June I is so nice to hear you have your bounce back in your step . You are one amazing lady!!

Joy, you have had this for a while, can the Dr give you something to chase it away for good? Good to see you here too!

Gloria, I agree and as long as the snow doesn't get too deep my clothes will be hung out. I am so looking forward to cooler weather, I love the Spring ,Fall and yes even the Winter.

I had better go get ready, I am happy this is not a real early appointment. Maybe I can have some time to can peaches or make jam afterwards.

Enjoy your day everyone.

:)Good Morning Everyfriend!  The doggies and I are just sitting here waiting for the boinger and breakfast.  They've been out, had their pills and I have coffee so all's well with our world.

SHIRLEY, about the mustard...I can't answer that question because I make a double batch and put it in mustard size jars and into the canner for about 15 minutes...just long enough to seal.  Then, when I open it to use, it's not in the fridge more than a week or so.  Does that help?  Maybe Amy will be along to give you a better idea.

I take the doggies out first thing every morning and last thing every night and I wait with them while they "do their thing".  I've discovered that where I sit, I often see the sun come up in the morning and if it's a clear night, I can see millions of stars in the sky.  It occurred to me that these are two very good, very quiet times to indulge in conversations with our Lord.  It's starts my day off right and it ends my day well.

I haven't figured out what to get into today but there's lots out there calling my name.  Whatever you do today, do it with joy in your heart.  Grab the day and make it your own!

WELL!  I tried to post and there was AMY with a great "mustard answer"!!

Hi Everyone. It is a bright and sunny morning and no rain in the forecast.  We expect to get into the low 90's this afternoon.  As usual on a Monday morning I don't feel very peppy and didn't get up until after 8 am, which is really late for me.  However, there is nothing pressing today and so will just take things easy and rest.  The tech will be here sometime after 11 this morning to check out my oxygen concentrator, which takes about 10 minutes.  I have no plans to go anywhere today.

We had a very nice Church service yesterday.  Our Church is having a three day adult Bible School conducted by a retired minister named Ed Killbourne, who is a wonderful story teller and song writer.  He did the adult Bible School about this time last year with around 40 adults in attendance and it was really enjoyed so he was book to come back this year.  I elected not to attend as going for a three hour session three days in a row is just too much for me anymore.  Yesterday he did the children's time and then preached the sermon and then did a special concert last night.

Joy, so sorry to read that you had another week of dealing with health issues.  They certainly take a toll on ones energy and wanting to do things.  I hope you were able to enjoy the outside yesterday.

Phyllis, we also had a much more humid day yesterday and expect more this week with higher temperatures.  However, I am not outside much so really can't complain.  I am hoping for some rain in the next few days so I don't have to water my yard again.  The shrubbery grow very quickly during the summer months especially with as much rain as we have enjoyed here in the East this summer.

Amy, thanks for the link for the Patriotspoint and I will check it out.  Do many people up your way still hang their laundry out to dry instead of using a dryer?  I haven't seen an outdoors clothesline for many years.

Lloyd, good to see you got the Skype working again.

Roley, hope you weren't in too much trouble with your wife for the long conversation with Lloyd.

Callie, nice of you do take on the computer jobs for an organization and the HOA.  In the past I always seemed to be the one to do the special projects and did enjoy doing them.  However, I no longer have any of those responsibilities and am not looking for any. Hope you enjoyed the birthday dinner.

Shirley, when our second microwave in our previous home that was over the stove burned out we bought a very inexpensive one that was small and did everything we needed to be done.  It sat in the corner of the cabinet. We had gotten the same small microwave for Stacey as she had little room in her kitchen in the apartments.  It served her as long as she needed it and then we gave it to her friend in the apartments along with a lot of her furniture.  Pat and I discussed last evening about the disadvantage of living on a States border as we get the political ads from both Georgia and South Carolina with a little more than 2 months to go before the General Elections.  I can just visualize you having to go to bed with those boots on.  :)

Jane, glad you have a ready source for your microwave problems.  It is nice your son is able to fix appliances for you or replace them.  I think most people sit in about the same place in Church each Sunday.  We always sit toward the back of the Church as it is easier for Pat not to have to wait so long to exit the Church.  We usually stay in line to speak to the Pastor and shake his hand.

Mary Ann, a table top microwave would be good for you and they have some pretty small ones.  I can't remember when Pat actually cooked something in the microwave other than finish cooking something that didn't get as done as needed. Ours is basically for reheating.  As I was growing up we had a nearby neighbor who went by the name of Tuck.  I hadn't thought of him in many years.  Unfortunately he was killed in a farm accident when his tractor turned over and pinned him to the ground.  It was a sad time in our small community as everyone knew basically everyone else.

June, it appears you are once again being able to enjoy your life in your retirement community.  That was some dinner they served you and there sure would be no reason to go away from the table hungry.  Even though your laundry room is free for the residents I am happy that you have chosen to let them do your laundry so you have time for more important things and are not wearing yourself out doing the laundry.

deAngel, I am at the point in life where the simpler the appliance is the better I like it. We basically use the same setting all the time with the appliances so don't have a need for all the bells and whistles, although ti seems that is the way most appliances come anymore.  Hope your appointment with your pulmonary doctor goes well today.

Larry, I think I might make something in the microwave if I could lift the dish out of the oven.  As it is, if it does't have a handle (cup) or isn't a plate, I let Tom take care of things.  Ours is mostly for heating my coffee water or reheating food.  We do fix corn on the cob in the microwave and if we've bought a ham slice, we put that on a plate to heat it.  Tom's tastes are much different than mine as his lean to salsa and SW spices.  I like casseroles and I'd make small ones so they didn't last forever and a day.  I do have enough room for a small microwave away from the range and overhead microwave.  Tom would still use the overhead microwave.

We had a nice storm overnight.  I slept through most of it.  Tom and I put the covers on my new deck furniture, not expecting wind, so we didn't anchor the covers.  This morning, the cover was off the table onto my amaryllis, one chair cover was off and so was the back cushion.  i had placed a small waste basket to get some rainwater and I think there was an inch of water in it, if that much.  Next time we will have to batten down the hatches whether we expect wind or not.  I suppose we're lucky the covers didn't go off the deck because it is an elevated deck.

Good morning everyone, noisy around here today. Moving cars and cleaning the parking lot getting ready to surface it again, gets ts done every year, then they paint the stripes on it. Of course the witch is taking the week off so she will escape the noise and smell.  Going into a heat wave for the rest of the week, already 80° and with heat index by the end of the day will fee close to 100°. AC s on already and about 1pm I will have my shades down against the sun.

LLOYD  when I cannot remember something my daughter tells me I have so much memory installed in my brain it is hard searching for it. I will go with that. Our brains are on overload that is why we cannot pull up what we want. Yesterday was the last nice day for this week.

LARRY  I always loved pictures of the west. My FIL had a subscription of Arizona Highways and he let me borrow them to drool over. My daughter sent a subscription to me for Christmas for years and one of their calendars for years. She started years ago putting all the dates on it for me and did it for herself, too. Now the magazine is about half the size it used to be so told her not to send it anymore, can look at it online.

JOY  I sure know how it feels not to get enough sleep. At times I have trouble sleeping and am not nice to be around.

PHYLLIS  August is going to go out with it's last bit of hot and humid weather. According to the forecast today we are to have rain and possible thunder storms on Labor day. I had read years ago that the Native Americans when weaving blankets or anything they always put a flaw in it for evil to escape.

AMY  opened both sites in new windows and will check them later. Makes me wish I could go camping again.

CALLIE  I don't contribute much here but I post anyway. We always want to see you here.

SHIRLEY  my 20 year old microwave did not make it here but it worked for the little I did with it. My some gave me a bigger one when I moved here and in a couple of months the 1 and 2 buttons did not work. Good thing there is a button to add 30 seconds. You have my support with this steamy weather. Going out the door feels like walking into a sauna. I will not be going out today at all. My AC is running and comfortable in here. Wonder if we are the only 2 who look forward to winter and dislike this summer weather. I passed on my greatgrandson's birthday party, can not take a bunch of little ones running around anymore.

JANE  right now I have tomatoes from both sons and really have been getting my fill of them, No matter what I make to eat I have at least 1 tomato along with it. Have a lot of cherry tomatoes, too.Grab a few every time I go into the kitchen.

JUNE  will watch  your link when I finish here. I do not think you would like the 40inches of rain that parts of Hawaii had last week.

GLORIA  de  are you having this heat wave we are in here? Only the first day of it and I feel cooped up in here already.

SHIRLEY  like with the other link I will check your out later.

It is now afternoon and my CNA is not here yet. 15 minutes late, Maybe she is trying to find a place to park. half of the parking lot is closed off for the repaving.

This sure has been a day I do not wish to repeat!! Dr said hubby has shingles :( Mercy me that poor man as if he doesn't have enough on his plate! Came home to find the pup (7yrs old) licking the fur off her hind foot! Gave her a Benadryl and phoned the vet, we have an appointment this Thur  ..I told the girl that we do have an appointment on the 13 of Sept but this can't wait that long. So she gave us this with the understanding that we would still have to come for her needles on the 13th.....well so be it. BUT I do have a fantastic vet and it wouldn't surprise me if she said she would do it all on the 30th.

I did pick up 6 - 6 qt baskets of lovely peaches so I guess they with be done Wed as tomorrow we have to be on the road at 6 am. for hubby's eye appointment in the city. We are taking our dogs with us as it is an early appointment and the neighbours that usually look after them also have their hands full. His Mom had 3 stents put in today so when we come home tomorrow we will look after their animals.

Managed to get the back yard grass cut and cut really short with hopes that whatever Babe is allergic to is cut off!

I am going to say good night and good morning to you as I won't be on in the morning..

Jane, hope you are feeling better

Amy, I am so sorry to hear about your husband Just take care of yourself.  Alos hope, the vet could help your puppy

Yes Gloria, we are suppose to have a heat wave, and then cool off for the weekend wirh showers. There is suppose to be the big Indian Powwow, this week end, Indians come from all over the US and Canada. It very interesting When I had my ceramic studio. some of the women from the tribe would come and make a lot of ceramics gifts to sell. They would bring me samples of some of the foods they sold like Indian pudding chowder and corn dishes.

MaryAnn, I use my micro wave all the time, one mear I make when I have company is stuffing cranberry and chicken breast, every one has liked the dish or so they say

June the doctor just said if I do not have anything further my heart just grows weaker. I understand what he is saying. they want me to go up the Island to a heart hospital. BUT he also admitted the dye they have to use might give me kidney failure again

Larry, IHOP, has been open for over month and I still have not been in,  There is over a 20 min wait, so we go to Friendlies.

Janie, I pray all is well with you. Sounds scary to have you call off work. You  and Amy are always the strong young one around here.

I didn't have a good day. Not enough sleep last night, and just an uneasy feeling today. I did go down for lunch, but it seemed too heavy so only ate half. I won't order enchilladas again. I'm going to have a light supper cold cereal, a banana, and maybe some ice cream.

Mary Ann, I am having trouble with my microwave too...it works fine, but it is dangerously high, so I am going to have to change the way I heat things. A large bowl of soup could be a disaster, so when I open a can of soup, I will have to divide it in cups with handles...the whole can is too much to begin with. My kitchenette is one of those factory built things. They put the the microwave too high, and the small refrigerator-freezer is so low it is hard to use. I no longer find getting on my knees is possible.m So, I will eat downstairs more often I guess. I am entitled to three meals a day, but I use just the lunch hour. Will have to change my ways. The older we get the harder it is to accept the fact that we have to make changes.

Gloria de, my sweet friend.I like your doctor. I get the feeling he doesn't want to take chances with your heart and kidneys, and I agree. Too much medical can weaken us even more, so I say, "Let Go and Let GOD." He made us, He loves us, and so I leave myself entirely in His Hands.

Time to have my light supper and off to bed and book. Hugs, Love and Prayer. June

A late evening HELLO.

It was a busy Monday for me.... I just had to come in to see how EVERYFRIEND is doing.

AMY, I am so sorry to read that your hubby now has shingles.  Bless his heart.  I do hope it is in a spot that is not too, too uncomfortable for him.  I hope the doc gave him meds and a steroid that will lighten the itching.  Has he had the shingles shot?

JANE, if you called in to work you must not be doing well at all.  I hope you can get some rest and feel better in the morning.

JUNE AND MARYANN, I hope you both get a good night of rest and will awaken feeling much better tomorrow.

GLORIA de, I am sorry that you are having the high temps in your area.  It sounds miserable.  Your heart issue is not good..... I am sorry that you do not have better options. Hugs to you.

Tomorrow is our dear Joan’s Birthday.  She would have been 81.  I have mailed a picture of her Grandson, Finlay to BUBBLE I hopes she can post it for all to see.  He certainly has grown up.  I mailed it to Pat Scott, but she is not able to do it, so she suggested you, Bubble.  I do hope you have received it.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I sympathize with anyone who is suffering or dealing with pain in any way.  I wish you all well!  You are all in my prayers.

JENNY, I turned 83 this year and I thought Joan and I were the same age.  If she would be 81 today, she was more than 2 years younger than I am.  Finley and my Kiran are the same age so I suppose I won't be as shocked at his growth as some of you will be.

I will be taking tomorrow off also and maybe Friday.  We shall see.  I've managed to injure my back so there isn't much to do right now.  Nothing is broken so that's a blessing!  But sitting isn't one of my favorite positions right now so I don't know how much I'll be on line.

Grab this day and make it your own.  Do with it as you wish!  And may God's love follow you wherever you go!

Hi Everyone. It is another sunny morning but will become partly cloudy later today with a high in the mid-90's.  There isn't a too likely chance of rain until perhaps this evening.  I have nothing to write about yesterday as we just stayed home and rested, which seems to be  the norm on Mondays for me.  I hope today Pat will want to go for a haircut and then I will suggest to her that we stop and have our main meal out.  We finished the last of the homemade TV type dinners we had in the freezer last night.  I do have an appointment with a friend who will be here around 10 am this morning and he is very punctual.  All of that will be plenty for today.

Mary Ann, if I recall correctly we only paid around $50 or $50 for the small microwave at Walmart.  If you have room it could be wise for you to invest in one and perhaps avoid getting burned in trying to remove items from the one you have.  Fortunately Pat and I both are tall enough to use the over the range microwave we have.

Gloria, a few weeks ago when I went to pick up my friend at the assisted living home they were resurfacing their parking lot and all of the staff had to park where visitor normally parked.  I had to call him and come out and get into the car quite away from the door.  Glad to hear your apartment is staying cool on such hot days.  I use the same reasoning when I can't think of something anymore and it works for me.  My friends, who are mainly in my age range, seem to understand.  :)  My grandparents had good friends who lived in Arizona and they went out there on occasion.  They also got the Arizona magazine and I enjoyed looking at the beautiful pictures. I am not a big fan of tomatoes but Pat really likes them.  I eat them but would not eat them alone.  On the news last night they said some places in Hawaii got over 50 inches of rain.  I think I heard there is another storm that may be headed toward them out in the Pacific.

Amy, when it rains it seems to poor in the health department for your poor husband.  That reminds me that I need to get the new shingles shot and another pneumonia shot.  I understand the new shingles shot requires two dosages.  I will get them done at the Walmart pharmacy.  I guess it is also time for the flu shot for the upcoming season.  Oh my poor arm!!  I would wager that your neighbors mother will be feeling much better getting the stents placed.  Fortunately there isn't a long recovery period required, at least there wasn't for me as I had several stents put in.

Jane, glad you are taking some time to let your back heal.  I do hope you find your sox!

deAngel, that sounds like quite an affair you have with the Indian Powwow.  If you have mentioned it I have forgotten that you once had a ceramic studio.  Our former neighbor had her own kiln in her garage and did a lot of ceramics including making dolls. Pat took lessons from her and made quite a few things including a doll and a pair of grandma and grandpa dolls that sit on a small bench in the corner of our living area.  I told my new cardiologist last week that I know my heart continues to weaken and I really don't expect he to do anything else, including going back into the cath lab as have been told by two of my previous cardiologists that further caths were not in the cards unless they could possibly  save my life in the event of another heart attack.  He mentioned doing another echo but will discourage him as just knowing my ejection factor continues to decrease is not going to change anything.  I don't blame you for staying away from IHOP until the crowds lessen with time.  We have only had to wait once at IHOP here and it wasn't a long wait and there was a place to sit.

June, sorry to read that yesterday wasn't a good day for you and hope today finds you feeling better.  I would sure hate to give up enchiladas as I really like them. I agree with you to "Let Go and Let God".

Jenny, I am sure we all miss Joan but she certainly put up a long and brave fight.  I remember all of those pictures she shared of Finlay when he was small but it has been a long time since the last pictures and know he has grown a lot over the year.

Lloyd, you must have a high tolerance for pain if you can hit your finger and continue to work.  When will you be getting your motor home?

Good morning everyone. Already 78° so another day to stay in with the AC running. Oh well September will be here soon and hopefully it will start cooling down.

AMY  Prayers for your hubby. He sure has more than enough health problems but he is fortunate to have a wife like you. Hope the peaches you bought are freestone ones. These days I am glad I no longer can peaches, even at the few peach orchards around they no longer have the freestone ones. Today's peaches are impossible to cut in half.

JANE  hope your ZZZZs worked and you feel better today.

JENNY  you really remember everyone's birthday. The ones who did
PSP and made the cards had a list of them but I never kept it. Seems I do remember Lloyd's birthday was the day after.

JANE it is hard sitting for long when your back hurts. One reason it takes me so long to post. I have to keep getting up and moving around or lay on the couch.

LARRY small staff here and the witch is taking this week off. Maintenance man has his own spot. They did paint the yellow stripes for the parking spots and the blue handicap spots on the ground, was almost dark when they finished. Today I think the let it dry good and tonight the cars get moved back to this side and they will pave the other half.

Have a good day and keep cool.

The weather here in Maine will be hot but not
too humid for the next three days,  and then
the temps will get down into the 70's  daily and
then Fall will start to show up and the weather
should be nice for a few weeks.

My kind of nice " Sweater Weather" beginning
to set in....    Hooray!

Have a good day,  Everyone...

I have read all your good messages, but I neglected to take notes. I was busy most of the morning. watering plants, gathering junk from four wastebaskets to be picked up by the trash person, and all the regular duties of prayer time, singing a hymn, eating brealfast. dressing. I am findingi it difficult to button up my shirt, and of course I missed the third button down so had to start over again. The saying is, button up, but I button down, don't you ????

So with all that nonesense done  I am waiting till 12:15 to go down for lunch. I will have to take a walk then, to stay awake so I go to a dining room meeting at 2 p.m. THEN I will fly back to my Nest and settle in with bed and book and nap.

Janie,I pray you will soon be all healed up, and then if possible, to slow down a bit.You are still young and lively, and I pray you stay that way for years to come,

It's time I jolted myself back to the reality of the present and let my friends know what's happening in my life. I will leave my respite care where I have spent the past several weeks and return to London and take up permanent residence at the Chartwell retirement home. The impact on my life will be tremendous;I'll no longer be able to terrorize medical students in the Standardised Patient Programme, something in which I've been involved almost from its beginning. My santa days are over as well, almost 20 years although maybe I can raise interest in my new home.  My Theatrical involvement is no more but in that regard I can take with me the memory of garnering an award on my last performance. Leaving this behind saddens me more than I can express, but life has been good.

Jane, I am sorry to hear you have back trouble, nothing worse than that and I wish you a speedy recovery.

For the past two nights we have had storms, first night was worse than last night. Today is to get the first batch of peaches done into jams  so I had better get at them and tomorrow I will can the  other ones.

Hi Everyone.  Our morning starts out overcast but we will see the sun today.  There is a possibility of some rain this afternoon.  The only thing on our agenda for today will be to try to get haircuts (if the man Pat likes to have cut her hair is working today) and then we will once again so to Ruby Tuesday's to take advantage of the buy one get one offer that is good only for today.  This is Scott's day off and we are hoping he will want to join us and then likely he will be coming out to the house for a little while. Yesterday was a quiet day.  A little after two pm I made a quick trip to IHOP and got us a Colorado Omelet to bring home to share with some hash browns.  It is made with three eggs and was loaded with different meats.  I don't know how one person could really eat a whole one as it made a meal for both Pat and I.

Gloria, why are there no freestone peaches now available in your area.  We got some freestone and non-freestone peaches that were grown around here earlier this year and both were good.  They were so juicy that I had to eat some of them while leaning a bit over the kitchen sink.  After I sit at the computer for any length of time I try to get up and walk a bit.  I have set a goal of 1,000 steps a day and just checked and see that for the first time in several days I was a few steps short of my goal yesterday and will try to do better today. Your maintenance man must be happy to have his own spot and not have to work out of the same office as the manager.

June, it sounds like you had a busy morning yesterday.  Sometimes I am surprised at how much time something takes me to do anymore that once was an easy and quick job.  It sounds like you follow a daily routine of things you do.  I am also a person who likes routine in my life as it gives me a sense of at least accomplishing something for my day.  I am glad that men's clothing usually have larger buttons than women's clothing.  Sometimes when I hang things up from the dryer I have a real problem with those buttons on Pat's blouses and the buttonholes seem to be vertical while the men's buttonholes are horizontal. I bet we all would enjoy having Don as a neighbor and share a dining table with him.

Don, how great it is to see your posting as feel it must mean you are gaining strength.  I bet it won't take you long to make new friends and I hope you can really enjoy this next phase of your life in the retirement home.  I know you must have many happy memories of your acting days, playing Santa and doing your wonderful Classical music program.  With the Internet I am sure you will find all of your favorite classical pieces to listen to.  I just looked at the website of where you are going and it looks like a luxury hotel.  It reminds me of the retirement home my former boss in Kansas City lives in that is a Methodist Retirement home and very nice including the ability to order ala carte from the menu.

Sandy, thanks for the link to the Chartwell site. I will certainly look at it as nice to have an idea of where our friend live.

Lloyd, it sounds like it is time to get the maps out and start planning your travels.  You are hotter there than we are here in the South.  I do remember that Missouri weather and humidity and working out in the field in the midst of the summer heat and the winter cold.

Amy, glad to read that the shingles are drying up for your husband.  It sounds like it is time for you all to get some good weather after two nights of storms.  Thanks for posting the picture of Joan's grandson Finlay.  He is certainly a nice looking young man.

I read this today and thought it was worthy of being shared and it certainly hits the nail on the head as to what we have experienced over the years.

The Stranger:

A few years after I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small town. From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family.

The stranger was quickly accepted and was around from then on. As I grew up, I never questioned his place in my family.  In my young mind, he had a special niche. My parents were complementary instructors: Mom taught me good from evil, and Dad taught me to obey. But the stranger....was our storyteller.

He would keep us spellbound for hours on end with adventures, mysteries and comedies. If I wanted to know anything about politics, history or science, he always knew the answers about the past, understood the present and even seemed able to predict the future!

He took my family to the first major league ball game. He made me laugh, and he made me cry.

The stranger never stopped talking, but Dad didn't seem to mind.   Sometimes, Mom would get up quietly while the rest of us were shushing each other to listen to what he had to say, and she would go to the kitchen for peace and quiet. (I wonder now if she ever prayed for the stranger to leave.)

Dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but the stranger never felt obligated to honor them. Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our home â€"not from us, our friends or any visitors.

Our long time visitor, however, got away with four-letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm and my mother blush.   My Dad didn't permit the liberal use of alcohol but the stranger encouraged us to try it on a regular basis. He made cigarettes look cool, cigars manly, and pipes distinguished.

He talked freely, much too freely about sex. His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive, and even embarrassing.   I now know that my early concepts about relationships were influenced strongly by the stranger. Time after time, he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked... And NEVER asked to leave.

More than fifty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our family. He has blended right in and is not nearly as fascinating as he was at first. Still, if you could walk into my parents' den today, you would still find him sitting over in his corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures.

His name?....

We just call him 'TV.'

Good morning everyone, supposed to be the hotest today than even yesterday. Not a day for fresh air just for AC air inside. Weather  guesser said it will feel like 105° this afternioon. They will be doing the other half of the parking lot today. Can really see the difference in the 2 sides.

SANDY  in all the years we went to Ferry Beach at the end of the Saco river was it so hot no one was on the beach, the sand was so hot you would burn your feet.

JUNE  hope today is a good day for you. I always thought that "button up" meant to shut your mouth or shut up. I button blouses down and unbutton the same way.

DON  so very good to see your post this morning. With your personality you will soon have new freinds at Chartwell and maybe get them to put on some skits for others to enjoy. Even get your Santa suit on to entertain all the grandkids of the others at Christmas. I wish you the best at your new home.

AMY  glad you got freestones, they even taste better. For several years now in the markets they come from California or the southern east states. The only olace I find freestones are at the farm I like and I don't know where they get them, the have no peach trees. Thanks for posting Finlay's picture. He is quite the young man now.

LARRY  our maintenance man is great, he was hired before this building opened. The witch is always on his back, the word going around is that she wants to get rid of him and hire a family member, there is an apartment with 2 bedrooms that go with the job. When ours was hired he had a daughter still at home with his wife and him.

Amy and Bubble, thank you for you joint efforts in posting Finlays picture, I can feel our dear Joan smiling down on you both. He is a very handsome young man, and I feel the future is going to be a better place to live…I have hopes that he will help make it so.

Amy I have never has shingles, but from what I have heard, it is a miserable illness.
Your husband has had to go through so much medical, it must be a discouraging time for him, and for you too. You strike me as a very strong individual and he is so fortunate to have you. Keep being the good lady you are…prayers are with you;

Larry, you are wise in having your goal of 1000 steps a day. I will try to remember to count mine. I had a lousy nite of very little sleep. About 3  or four hours, then just  short dozes and wake ups. I did go down for Bible study this morning, and now I plan to go down for lunch, then it will be a "day off."I loved your story about the stranger..T.V. So very much truth in that story.

Gloria, I button from the top down also, and unbutton from the top down. Remember the song "Button up your overcoat when your on a spree..take good care of yourself, you belong to me"? I'm giving away a brand new blouse because of the small buttons and small button holes.

Time for me to scoot downstairs for lunch, then home to fall apart. see you all later. June

As Janie would say, I am all in but my shoe laces. Managed to get 5 batches of peach jam done and tomorrow will can the 6 -6 qt baskets of peaches.

Our neighbours Mom could use some prayers please. She is an amazing lady of 92 yrs and had 3 stents in yesterday but today they are operation on her again.  I have been looking after the dog and cat when they are away for them.

Jane, please take it easy ,no ladder climbing . Maybe a long soak in the tub with Shirley's remedy of Epsom salts might help??

I am now going to put my feet up.

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Going to skip around, been in to read quite a few times but always on the run & no time to take notes.

Amy thanks for the photo of Joan's gr-son... he does look like his father from the photos Joan posted long ago.  Hard to believe she isn't here to enjoy her family.   Sorry about the shingles, I had them & do believe the most painful INSIDE my body of anything ever (including heart surgery).  I did find taking B-1 helped mine not break out too bad (around my waiste to my ribs), and ever since, when I get that feeling of "here we go again" & know they are trying to break out again, I pop a B-1 (100 mg) and that ends them.  My mother broke out for 8 years, until she died, because she couldn't tolerate the meds used.  Had to rush to the hospital because of meds.  When my son had them (head & neck) he did get the shots but had scars for about a year.  I also soaked my spots with Epsom salt, not sure if that really helped, but since the Dr was amazed that I got rid of that brown spider bite the year before (with no scar), she was more than happy for me to try my tricks.  In my case, I was sure "the B-1 would do no harm if it did no good"....  Give him my sympathy, they really do hurt internally.
EDIT:  Sorry about your neighbor's mother.... cannot imagine them doing surgery right after the stents, they put so much blood thinner in my husband with each stent, we were afraid for him to move around much for fear of internal bleeding if he even bumped himself. Prayers for all of them, including the doctors.

Don, like everyone in here, I'm confident that you (of all people) will be a blessing to any place you choose to live, and bet they will be begging you to play Santa and entertain in some way. My mother always talked about the different phases of our lives & not wishing to hang on to the past or we wouldn't enjoy the present.  We had our youth & raised kids, lived our days of "our babies grown up" and so on.  No regrets, they were good times & hopefully this next phase will be just as rewarding, especially since we are so much wiser now.  Right?

Larry, you mention that place in KC.... are you thinking of John Knox Village?  I have a number of friends living there now & it sounds fantastic.  It is now "non denominational"... have apartments of all sizes to individual houses, etc.  My understanding is they have 7 restaurants & fast food on the grounds, available to anyone, medical facilities, etc.  The ones I know are pleased with the freedom they have and care if needed.  It is a whole little town for seniors.... building new apartments & houses all the time. I enjoyed reading about friend, TV, thank you.... and since my gripe was those "all news" stations where they sound like a bunch of angry kids all the time, I dropped cable & love having the old shows any time & still get the local  NBC, CBS & ABC when I want news.  I am one happy consumer.  No, I don't get golf but MY TV never liked golf.... that was Cas' fav & we paid the extra for that.  Life is very different being alone, but still a good life.

Got the RV alignment taken care of today.... not as expensive as I feared after reading the "chat" line of people that own these elephants.  Too bad they didn't explain when selling, that the factory doesn't do that re-alignment when they are done adding all the weight to the Ford chassis.   Would have saved me about $700 this week for 2 new tires + that alignment.  The tires were bald so had to be done.

Have one more trip to the mountains before snow flies and 2 more trips to MO for school & family reunions.  Hope it isn't icy, love it cold but no telling if the trees will be turning when I get there.  I noticed this week our robins have gone south!  This is early for us.  We will be seeing flocks of birds come through soon, since this is a "fly-way".  The monarch butterflies are everywhere down along the river, but, alas, I don't have any flowers blooming for them to sit on.

Yeah, Gloria, was cool last night but back warming up. Like you, the bones are not as thrilled with cold as a few years ago.  At least the wind is not so bad, was 40-50 mph several days this week & certainly is a strain on nerves.

Time to go down to the river, then feed cats.  Have not had supper (I still eat supper).... and the day is done.  Oops, glanced over my shoulder toward Callie & big thunderheads to the south.... I need a peaceful night of sleep.... last night was cool, slept with the door open & smiled every time I woke up.  Lots of "to-dos" tomorrow.

Here it is, bedtime & have kept adding to this today until it's a book.... so if you like, read or skip chapters, I'm wrapping up the day.  Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.   Shirley

Hi Everyone.  We are headed for another day with 100 degree heat index.  No rain materialized yesterday and it was hot.  I was so weary yesterday that I spent most of the day laying down in the morning and then again after I ate the lunch Pat fixed for me.  Then I laid down again for a few hours.  We did go out to eat at Ruby Tuesday's.  Scott elected not to go with us but did come out for a couple of hours and visit with us.  I actually felt like getting up this morning so think this will be a good day.  The only thing on the schedule for today is to pick up my friend and go to coffee for an hour.  If Pat feels up to going we will go for quick haircuts this afternoon.

Gloria, I saw on the news last night that the NE was having a real heat wave and you are to had a hotter heat wave that us yesterday.  Nice that the maintenance man is great and that he lives right on the property.  I expect he gets called out fairly frequently during the night for emergencies.  It sounds like he is the bright spot in the staff there and I hope he doesn't get driven away from the job.

Bubble, I think Amy got the picture and she did post it in thumbnail but with the link to increase the size.  He looks like a fine young gentleman.

Sandy, living in South Carolina, but on the Western side of the State, is still the closest we have ever lived to the beaches.  I know a number of people who either have homes near the beach or go their for vacations.  It really isn't in the cards for Pat and I to make the trip to the beach. Have you watched the TV series on Netflix called "Royal Pains"?  It is set in the Hamptons and is about a brillant doctor and his brother and a young woman whose parents are from India that is also brilliant and the rich people they encounter there.  We really liked the series.

June, fortunately my phone counts the number of steps I take so I don't have to manually keep track of them.  Sometimes when I intentionally walk to get more steps in I will mentally count them as just walking around is a bit boring.  It also shows if I climb stairs, which I seldom do.  I am sure I was far below my intended goal yesterday as just didn't have the oomph to walk anymore than I had to.  I hope you slept better last night than the night before.

Jane, hope you can enjoy a restful day of recovery today.  It was good to read that you feel it is a better morning for you today and that you feel you are improving.

Amy, it sounds like you are having a "peachy time" up your way.  I feel for your neighbors mother as having the stents put in is enough without having to have another operation the following day.  She must be a strong lady.  I am sure it is big help to your neighbors to know their dog and cat are well tended while they are away.

deAngel, you had a wise husband who saw to it that you got back to Long Island to live.

Shirley, I plan on getting the new shingles shots before long but I do now take a B Complex vitamin daily so maybe that would help ward them off.  Pat's sister has had them several times and has really suffered.  It sounds like we share the same philosophy of life in terms of taking each phase of of life as we come to it with a sense of anticipation and make the best of it not worrying about it not being the same as other phases of life.  I wasn't thinking of John Knox Village but have been by there numerous times during the nine years we lived in Raytown, Missouri.  It is certainly quite a complex. I think it was still denominational while we lived there.  My wife isn't a sports fan but think she probably likes golf the best.  This weekend starts the football season so I will be watching games throughout the season.  She is not a football fan but tolerates it as I tolerate the Hallmark movies and other programs that she likes.  Fortunately with the headsets the TV volume can be muted so it doesn't bother the other person and we can find other things to do on our laptops.  Glad you got the alignment done and new tires before getting on the road again.  I read that the Farmer's Almanac was predicting a cold and severe winter coming up.  I guess the robins got advance notice.

favorite of mine,  too!   Good TV!

I actually haven't been to the beach for years...
I just love living near water... be it the Atlantic,
the Gulf of Mexico or Washington's Puget Sound.

I hope that you have a good day,  today..
Too much heat for me is never a good thing.

In my travels I have picked up and or delivered in 47 of our 50 states. most of it is very beautiful, but I think the best beach is at Tampa Florida. the sand there is white and the water is so clear that you can stand in the water chin deep and
see your toe nails at the bottom. t seen a seashell with the flesh still in it. I got it balanced on one foot and picked it up to where i could get in my hand. i still have it. it is picnkesh / rose in collar. pointed on both end's. put it in car played in beach more and stopped on way back to sis and brol's house and did some
turing in shops, when we got home it was smelling bad dead also. I went out back and got a stick and was trying to get it out of the shell (gagging). a little neighbor girl walked up watched for a minute , then walked up ducked under my arm back to me and took hold of it one hand and wit the other got hold of the flesh and pulled it out. took the shell over to water hydrant and washed it off clean. I want to take Nancy down to that beach when we get our motor home. Have a great day.

Hi !! I woke up at 3 a.m. and like yesterday, I could not get back to sleep, so this is not expected to be a great day. However, Lloyd has given me a good laugh already......"they were getting a nice genital thunder storm".  Interesting.

There is nothing that I need attend today, thank goodness. My mind is so foggy this morning,so I will stay home, mostly, and read and doze.

Larry that is a very intresting phone you have. What is the make..brand. I would like to check it out on my computer.

Time to make my bed and get dressed in street clothes, my foggy mind may take me out in my gown. Have a great, God Blessed day dear hearts.....special prayers for you my Janie, and hugs

Good morning everyone, today we are supposed to see the end of this heat and humidity with thunder storms this afternoon. If they materialize most likely they will be bad, usually are after the H and H we have had this week.

SANDY  the beach in front of my in-laws house on Ferry beach was beautiful but now there is no beach. The storms over the years washed it away and now they have put those huge rocks there to try and hold the road back. One of my sis in laws still goes up there every summer and she takes pictures, sad to see it now.

JUNE  oh my I do remember that song. Those old songs we grew up with, they had rhythm and were sung by singers WHO could pronounce the words so we could understand them. I find the same problem with blouses these days, small buttons and seems the button holes are too small.

JANE  about time you take time to take care of yourself. We do care about each other in this cyber family.

AMY  10 years ago I was told by more than 1 doctor that I was too old for surgery and I was still in my 70s. I am still in good health except for the back arthritis.

SHIRLEY  I do not mind bundling up in layers in the winter and going out for fresh air but the last few days I have stayed inside where the AC has been running 24/7 just to keep a little cool. I keep doors closed  to keep the living areas cool but with the sun beating on this side of the building if  never got below 80 in here yesterday. When I got up this morning it had gone down to only 77° and I had it set for 67°. Always love reading your "books"

AMY  wish I could call on Scotty and ask him to beam me up to your home. 85 humid degrees here. YUCK!! Sure hope the forecasters are right about this heatwave breaking today.

LARRY  the maintenance man goes off duty at 4pm and has weekends off. He leaves the property then so he does not get called on his own time. One time the lobby doors got stuck open on a Friday and he stayed till the company finally sent someone to fix it. Could not leave with them open as anyone could have walked in. He stayed till 9pm. The witch is supposed to pay him overtime but she will not. She told him to leave at noon on Friday till those hours were covered. On Friday he leaves for a home they have in Conn. but in the winter if it starts snowing he has to come back right away and start cleaning the snow from the walkways and in front of the entry way. When it snows during the night he will be out there every hour cleaning the snow again.  He is a hard worker and we all like him He has her on his cellphone and the ring he has when she calls him in a dog barking. Most of us would not bother him on his off hours but there are a few who thinks he should be at their beck and call 24/7. On his off time there is a main number to the main office for help and someone from the other buildings the own is supposed to come, half the time no one shows up and when they do they do not know how to fix anything.

LLOYD  with this tiny state  we are never more than 45 minutes -depending on traffic from the Atlantic so have been to the one of the beaches most of my life. I miss it now.

I had trouble locating this site tonight. felt pretty weird.

I had a quiet day but I did get out quite a bit. I tried LARRY's counting of steps. only I  used part of my counting on the times used my feet and legs to keep the glider going back and forth in our garden. It was beautiful here weather wise.In the mid 80s, but with some lovely clouds..the winds may have been blowing way up there..clouds called "Mare's Tails". I really enjoyed it.

Janie, I never did know what has caused your back pains. Did you fall, lift something to heavy ??Did it happen at work or at home ?????? I have been praying along with the others. we need your youthfulness here dear one.

I had several short naps this afternoon, but no deep ones, so hopefully I will sleep through the night tonite. Had a huge lunch downstairs today, so I will have some cereal tonight and a banana, and that will be it. And it is time to eat, so I will close with Love and Hugs and Prayers. June

JUNE, I was doing something I shouldn't have been doing.  I was checking on my leaky roof to make sure the bucket was still under it because we were having another of our bad storms.  When I came down the stepladder (inside the house) I missed the bottom step and in trying to catch myself, I twisted.  I avoided falling buy i strained my back pretty bad.  It was my own fault and I told my daughter, "If I needed a reason to stay off stepladders, that's it."  I'm taking tomorrow off and then I'll probably be back to business as usual on Monday.

Now I'm off to Dreamland.  I wish you all a Good Night and I thank you all
for your good thoughts on my behalf!  Sleep peacefully and may God bless us, every one!

Janie, thank you so much for explaining your fall to me. We really do have to be more aware of what we are doing, when we do something different. I know I have to move much slower now and be very aware of what I am  doing. My balance is so bad now, I start to tip sidewise for no good reason that I know of..it is scary, but I am learning to be more aware of my movements.

I'm thanking God that He protected you against worse injury, and don't rush to go back to work too soon, O.K. ? I love you much. June

Good morning everyone...

Wow what a nice change in the weather 40° here at the moment. I will soon change the house temp as canning peaches is just about to begin.

Gloria, they want my neighbours Mom to go to a specialist but he is in the big city...and she would have to go 3-4 times before anything would be done.I believe she opted out of that and as long as she is comfortable she is staying right where she is.

Sandy, I am with you as I love water, in it on it or under it. Even just the sound of a babbling brook.

Larry, tis going to be another peachy day here. After the peaches comes tomatoes and salsa.

Jane, hope you are feeling better today.

Lloyd ,would an auto wrecker have a part that you can replace the broken one??

Better get a move on and start production!!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi Everyone.  Not a cloud in the sky this morning and it is going to be another day with the heat index up to 100 degrees.  The only thing on the agenda for today is to do a grocery pickup at Walmart in an hour or so.  Yesterday morning I did got to coffee but my friend called shortly before I would have gone to pick him up saying he had a dental appointment  yesterday and couldn't go.  Yesterday afternoon Pat and I did get our hair cut.  We had dropped a birthday package off at the Post Office for Pat's sisters birthday on the way and as we came home we stopped at the Walmart Pharmacy to pick up a couple of prescriptions.

Sandy, there were some real characters on "Royal Pains".  It was well cast.  I hope you have a cooler day today.

Lloyd, send some of that rain our way.  I have been hoping for rain for several days but probably should go ahead and water my yard this evening.  Sorry about your little accident.  I really hate to back up anymore and do it very slowly continually looking all around.  The seashell sounds very much like the one my mother had for many years.  You could put your ear to it and it sounded like the ocean. Not good to have our wives on a high horse.  We had some beautiful flowers here yesterday that looked like big piles of marshmallows.

June, I sure hope your yesterday turned out better than you had anticipated and that you were able to get some extra sleep.  I have an iPhone 6 and it has a health app on it.  Since I carry it on my belt it can count the steps.  It is an amazing piece of equipment as are all of the smart phones.  There are other devices that will also count your steps like the Fitbit that Shirley uses.  The steps add up pretty quickly and it sounds like it was a good idea to count while using the glider as you were still exercising your legs.  I have no illusions that my walking is strengthening my heart but rather it is important so I can retain my mobility.  I did get over 2,000 steps yesterday.

Jane, I was concerned about you and that stepladder and a bucket of water.  Ladders are just not safe for folks in our age range.  Glad you are getting better. Nice to see you are up to getting out and about today.

Amy, I expect the heat of the canning will soon warm up your house.  I think I would prefer a "peachy day" rather than a "tomato day".  :)

Gloria, I just don't understand how people can like songs that repeat the same short phrase with the same tune over and over and over again.  I just find it annoying but often hear that type of music in restaurants.  I also don't care for singing that is basically shouting. Pat has had the same comment from her back surgeon although with the explanation that the stenosis is too back to operate as an operation wouldn't solve the back pain problem.  I do hope you have a break in your heatwave.

Been up a few hours but am seriously thinking about crawling back in bed before dressing.  I missed my 6 hours sleep only by a few minutes but my "average" for the whole week was less than 4 hours per night.  Naps don't count unless they are at least an hour long.  I love my Fitbit for counting sleep more than steps.... makes a great watch as well as the information it collects, but the kicker is "one more thing to keep charged"........

We all get those links to fantastic videos but this morning I got the best I've ever seen, for photography.  Hope all of you enjoy as much as I did, & wonder how on earth "they" ever came up with such amazing video.

Good morning everyone, much cooler this morning 64° and we did no have thunderstorms either to clear the air. Cloudy but at last I finally opened windows to let fresh air in. I did not sleep well last night and if I wasn't hungry I think I would still be in bed trying to get more sleep.

AMY  like your neighbor's mother  I would not want to go into the city to a doctor. The city meaning Providence where all the big hospitals are. Traffic is horrible there and too many shootings and stabbings. I will stay here in a much quieter town.

LARRY  much better day here today. Hope to get out later and enjoy it.

SHIRLEY   my daughter has an iPhone and has been taking wonderful pictures with it. She has some different apps that she can do amazing things with her pictures. She joined a group that experiments with their photos and share tips and help each other. Almost as good as PSP. I will check your link later, have it opened in a now window.

LARRY, I'm not going out of the house today.  My reference was "in and out" of Soda Shoppe.  I took myself to the Dr. yesterday and that was about my limit.  I've been in "flop city" most of the morning and just stopped here on my way through to see what everyone is doing.

Back to the flopper!  Like Gloria, I got up for my stomach's sake!

Mary Ann, I am so sorry to read that you have been ill. Did you see a doctor ? I don't go to many folders so I can't be much help in all that happens, but I am sure you will be informed of anything vital to know. Janie was attacked by a ladder...in other words, she missed the last step and severely twisted her back. I am going to make myself go down for lunch.
I am not hungry at all but my son worries if I don't do what I should.

We are having a mild day, high of 85, but I hear my neighbor has her A/C running. we are on the top floor...flat roof...so it does tend to feel hot at 85 degrees and and no breeze blowing, so our wall of windows do not offer cooling..

Mary Ann, I hope you are healing quickly....we need you. Hugs and Prayers. June

Jane:  Sorry to read about your ladder mishap.  Ladders are scarey anymore.  Mend quickly and totally.

Radioman Don:  It looks like a lovely place for you with so many choices of what to do - maybe float in the pool today?

Lloyd:  The important thing is no one was hurt in the mishap.

June:  Your son wants you to keep moving and also have the camaraderie you deserve with your friends in the building.  You are doing a fantastic job of staying upbeat and caring.   :hat:

I have phone calls to make this afternoon and laundry.  It still seems odd to start laundry in the afternoon - we went out for coffee at a bakery - I had a blueberry croissant.  I checked out a consignment shop and will make plans to bring a few do-dads over there one of these days.  Grandson arrives in Minnesota today - it is a long enough drive so he stays overnight in Omaha or thereabouts.  /color]

June, no I did not see a doctor.  We were going to go to hospital emergency this morning but Annie came to help us and time got away.  Tom said as long as I felt so good (I feel normal!!!), we'd play it by ear and if whatever returned, we'd go.  I have two people here who keep pretty good track of me - Tom and Dot.  Thanks for asking.

That's too bad about Jane.  I have been forbidden to use a ladder by Tom.  I think sometimes he is over protective, but I know it is for my benefit and I listen.  He does so much for me that I can't disobey him!

To those of you who are telling me not to use a stepladder....let me ask you a question.

If it was pouring out and your roof was leaking and no one returned your calls, would you just sit there waiting for the ceiling to fall in your lap?

I'm sorry to say, I don't wait patiently for disasters if there's anything I can do to prevent it!

I know I'm getting old but I'm not ready to sit around on my duff and let my house fall in on me!  The only one of you I can think of who lives in almost the type of situation I do, is Shirley.  And we all know she doesn't sit on her duff waiting for disasters.

"she doesn't sit on her duff waiting for disasters" ........... :2funny: :crazy2: Truth be, Janie, I stir them up!  So sorry you don't bounce as good as I did..... my pain problems from the "step back" off that ladder was 2 months of plantar fasciitis.  But I do understand ya gotta do what ya gotta do as long as you can.

Mary Ann, sorry you've been under the weather.  My brother will be 93 Sept.8 & finding it hard to not do everything as usual.  His sons make every effort to take them places, but his wife is only about 6 months older than I am so still drives & tries to keep him from behind the wheel... this has nothing to do with age, he was always a bad driver!   :D

Boiling hot here today, guess it hit the 100 mark but feels even worse, top that off with 40-50 mph winds & doesn't just "feel like", it feels worse.  I had to run to the store to mail my utility bills, discovered them in a heap under another heap & one was borderline past (will be a stretch to get there on time).  While out.... Taco Bell called to me & I finished my spicy tostada & still have 2 tacos to go.  Cats wanted to check weather so pass the laptop on the way back to food.  Tom went out & already back in, Tiger waited until he went into the other end of the house & wanted out.  She gets tired of his rough house play, loves it when I fuss at him for teasing her.  Think a nap might come after finishing those other tacos.

Lloyd, I understand Nancy's dismay about the damage to your vehicle.... my RV has a boo-boo near the back, on both sides.  Someone got it on the passenger side when left it to have warranty work done, but I let it go... a neighbor pulled into my drive & got the other side about same spot... he called to tell me his insurance would take are of it, but I knew he'd had some claims & good chance they'd cancel his policy, so told him not to worry about it.  MY problem is when people see the places they automatically figure it's MY fault.  I can back that baby right on target with those power posts to plug in, one try!  Would not try that in the dark, I don't go by the back up camera!  Glad you are about to roll... and don't be surprised if those beaches are nothing like you remember.

SHIRLEY, if it was just the step off the ladder I'd be back to work by now.  But when they did the cat scan, they discovered that another problem was causing the pain in the front.  I'm dealing with that too.  Also working on returning my BP to normal.  My friend and neighbor who is a retired RN and now takes care of people in between teaching stints at the Vo-Tech School, is going to do an alternate day check on my blood pressure until it's time for the Dr. to check it again.  She'll also give me "what-for" if it doesn't come down.  Between her and my daughter and another neighbor, it's very hard to stray!

Shirley, I was lucky in the manner I gave up driving.  Annie had totaled Tom's car and mine was the only one available so he drove that for about a year.  My license and insurance were coming up and I didn't want to pay a large insurance bill and I was going to be 92 - so I sold the car.  The license wasn't much, but the insurance was expensive.  I didn't have to be forced to give up driving!

Jane, I had a ladder incident on my 3-step ladder with results much better than yours.  I stepped off the second step as I had done many times (when younger) and lost my balance, went backward toward the cupboard and I don't remember what was there, but I hit it, causing a loud noise.  I assured Tom I was OK and that may have been the time he said he'd like it if I'd stay off the ladder.  Oddly enough the following night I heard a crash in the furnace room and Tom had moved a cupboard and it almost fell on him.

When we live alone, we have to do what we have to do.  Jane, I just hope you heal quickly.

Mary Ann

In the days when I lived in my home alone, I would have called my Fire station. It is surprising what those fellows will do for us. They even rescue cats stranded in trees.

I don't think they would come and fix my roof, JUNE!  Our fire company is small town and totally volunteer.  If the guys manning the station left and a call came in, I bet there would be trouble.  I think they only employ two people on a full time basis and they have their days off, too.

Must go to bed.  I wish you all a very peaceful night.  The temperature has gone down and it's quite cool out there.  I sat for a bit when I took the doggies out for the last time.  Said my prayers on the porch and sang a hymn or two quietly.  And now I ask God's blessing on all my friends and family.
