And today's chuckle:

A minister was planning a wedding at the close of the Sunday morning service.

After the benediction he had planned to call the couple down to be married for a brief ceremony before the congregation.

For the life of him, he couldn't think of the names of those who were to be married.

"Will those wanting to get married please come to the front?" he requested.

Immediately, nine single ladies, three widows, four widowers, and six single men stepped to the front.

*Thanks to Pastor Tim for this joke!*

Jeanne Lee thanks for passing it on. cute one, but If Nancy goes home before me I will not be among that #'s unless a very rich lade asks me and convinces me I can have a free hand to spend her money with no fuss. I am too old to even toy with the Ideal of raising more children even as I love them I want the grands and great grands to just come and go home for a short while but often.

Thanks, Jeanne Lee. That is one of my old graphics that I had lost when the old computer crashed.  Thanks for showing it again.

Hot and humid and rainy forecast for this week.  The A/C and I are very close friends.

Hi everyone. We are in for another cloudy and probably rainy afternoon and evening.  We should only get to the mid-80's today, which is a very pleasant change from the high 90's we have been having.  I have no plans to leave the house today so it should be a quiet day.

Amy, you were fortunate to be able to be treated by the same doctor for thirty years.  Pat and I are changing our primary care doctor to one much closer to us where we don't have to get on the Interstate and drive for 25 or 30 minutes to get there.  We have no complaint with the doctor but just the location.  When we first came here we had trouble finding doctors who would accept new patients.  Hope you both will be able to attend the party for your retiring doctor.  What a blessing for Shirley's sister to have the cancer disappear.  I will share the link you posted for the quilting pattern with Pat.  She always is looking for new patterns.  She keeps adding to her stash of fabric and finding new patterns.  I think she would have to live and quilt a lot for the next 70 years to use up all of the fabric.  However, I don't mind as it brings her a lot of pleasure.  She often takes advantage of the daily or weekly sales on fabric that Missouri Star Quilt Company offers.

Gloria, sure hope today is a much better one for you than you had on Saturday.

Shirley, it sounds like you have your sprinkler system working well.  I wonder about the "Golden Year's fable also. I suppose for some they are golden but for many who suffer from aches and pains and diseases they really are more like rust. I also find that regardless of how I am feeling I can always smile and be kind to others.

Hal, that was a good one you shared about the bagpiper.

JaneS, I will also stop and ask directions.  Fortunately GPS has about eliminated the need to do so anymore. It sounds like you enjoy your enchiladas as we do.  That is something we often enjoy both at home and when eating out.

Lloyd, how scary to be held up and have a gun pointed at you.  Glad you weren't hurt in those events.  When we lived around Washington, D.C. we drove through some really bad areas of the city but only once.

deAngel, glad to see you have a neighbor who is so thoughtful to check with you about needs from the grocery store.  Sure hope that A-Fib doesn't bother you today.

Jenny, with all the building going on out in your area it is undoubtedly difficult to find workmen to do things like the updating you would like to do.  Your description of the building spree reminds me of what was happening in our are of Georgia right before the housing and economy crash, which brought everything to a halt and a lot of people lot their homes as had been sold houses beyond their ability to make the house payments.

June, I am sure you will be happy to spend some time with Gary and catch up on the news of the trip to visit their family.  You said you were going to "just fall apart" yesterday.  Sure hope all the pieces came back into place this morning. :)

Jeanne, thanks for getting us started off on a fresh new week and that is a beautiful graphic from Phyllis.  Another good pieces of humor.  It just shows you have to be a bit careful about what you ask for or you may be surprised by the resutls.

Good Morning Everyone from the relatively cool,
but more humid rocky coast of Maine.   (67 deg/F).

I am going to head out for a short walk down the street
to pick up some meds.     Tomorrow I will go off with Kelly,
now that she is home from her trip.      I will also see Fe who
is walking ...    wowzer!!       How quickly they grow up.

Have a good day,  everyone.

Hi Joan,  hope that you are doing better.

Jeanne Lee, thank's to you, and Bis, and pastor Jim..it felt so good to start my morning here with a laugh.

Janie, with God beside you all things will go well, and I pray your healing is quick.

Amy, I hope the cracked egg shells are not too uncomfortable. Clever joke tho, thanks. I know how it feels to have a Dr. talk "with" you. That is what we need.

Phyllis, I'm glad your graphic was posted, can you save it on your hard drive..it is a restful scene.

Larry, thank you my friend. I checked myself over this morning and find that all the parts are in the proper place and my brain is not fried. Eyes are calling for the glasses..ah..that's better. The only "must do" for the day is watering my potted plants, and that will be a pleasure.

Sandy, too quickly these wee ones turn into little girls that want to be grown ups. This current picture of her is my favorite, it seems I see a little impishness tucked into those beautiful eyes.

Good afternoon, it is now cloudy and very warm, with high humidity.

Thanks Jeanne, loved that graphic

June, your brain is never fried. No one puts into word so beautiful as you do.

Jane, good luck at the dentist.

Lloyd, I have wrote before, i have had a gun with a bayonet pointed at my chest, in a Adana Turkey airport. they thought the small box of brass souvenirs  I was taking home was a bomb, until I got my suitcase open for them.  they even locked down the airport. Of coursed they laughed after, but I did not as I knew I still had to go through the Istanbul airport.

Gloria de, how many years ago were you in Turkey? in todays world I can see how that fear of weapons in the airport would happen, but was the world crazy when you were in that situation ? The farthest I have been out of the U.S. is dozens of times when our mid-west relatives wanted to go to Tia Juana, Mexico, and one night spent in Vancouver,Canada. You can see I can claim no fame as a world traveler. I would have loved to have spent a week in Vancouver, but my husband was always too aware of saving $$$$$. I shall not complain, his caution in finances then has allowed me to live where I am now.

The Lord is certainly taking good care of me.

I've had trash and garbage pickup by the same small local business for about 10 years now.  Saturday I found a note in my door that a new company would be doing the job, with a phone number to call giving my mailing address and asking any questions.

My main concern of course was price and found out that the very reasonable charge would not change.  The girl asked whether I had a "can" or need one.  I explained that I can't handle using one, that it's the limit of my ability to get the individual bags onto the front porch for some kind soul to move to the roadside.

She commented, "OK, I'll note that you need someone to get your garbage"  I thought, "OH, yea!  that's going to happen."

To my surprise, a young man knocked at my door this afternoon, explaining that he was from the trash company and that in the future he'd be coming on Friday, but today he would take anything I had ready.  He said in the future he would take anything on my front porch and if nothing was there he'd knock on the door and take whatever I had in the house.

And this extra concern at no extra cost!

Like I said, the Lord sure does look out for me!

Jeanne Lee, that would be a miracle happening if a "trash service guy" came to the door here!  We have several companies that "work our street" but all charge the same (different days).  We've had the same service about 30 years, price keeps going up.  Cute joke & thanks for the new home.

Phyllis, that is such a pretty graphic.  I wish I could figure how to operate the PSP on this computer, don't remember which is it, newer version that went with Win 7 & now 10.  It works but my brain doesn't like change.  :tissue:

I was hoping Jane would report in... my heart goes out to her with the dentist today.

Gloria de.... I had the agents spending quit a time looking at the Xray or whatever was used, at a pop can opener that traveled in my tote bag (before pop top cans).  They were trying not to to ask me but when I saw their hesitation I opened & pulled it out & they sighed & let me go on through.  This was in San Francisco or LA... Things being as they are now, I'm happy to stay on the ground riding on my own 6 wheels!

Callie, you haven't been talking much lately.... heat taking the starch out of us?  Sure is me!

I cooked my green chili today & made the extra "hot sauce" that goes over everything.... now to stuff the corn tortillas.  I used to do a fast fry & drain the tortillas on paper towels but found they taste the same when wrapped in wet paper towels & given a nuke in the microwave.

I offered to take some to son's family tonight, this was the day my DIL's mother was to have a visit with the new doctor to evaluate what nursing care she needs to go into.  Her Alzheimer's has progressed faster than anyone thought it would and finding an opening for Memory Care has a long waiting list.  This is the worst of all diseases, in my opinion, so far nothing helps, and she is scared of not being in control when she has always been the one in control. None of us get to pick our issues or even where & what is our preferred life style.  Best we can do is plant ourselves where we want to spend our last years and hope for the best.

Better quit thinking and go feed cats.  Tom & Tiger are laying on the end of the bed right behind me.  They get their exercise at night, I have not been letting them come in & out like before, I need my sleep~

Hello Everyfriend!  I actually made it to the dentist office at 10 after 7 this morning.  On the way, I was thinking that it's been a long time since I contracted to be anywhere at 7 a.m.  The earliest thing on my week's agenda is church at 8.

My dentist is the best!  I didn't feel anything except a pinch on the other side of my mouth when his finger pinched my lip against my teeth.  And they advised me to take two Advil before the anesthetic wore off so the pain would not be so bad.  I did and it wasn't .  The worst of the whole deal was that the anesthetic made the whole sid of my face feel numb.  I absolutely hate that feeling!

Right now, there's a little twinge but the bleeding has stopped and I've been eating mashed potatoes and apple sauce most of the day.  Not a very classy menu but it works for me!  Tomorrow I start the salt water rinses.

And that's about what my day has been.  My daughter and granddaughter stopped to see if I wanted or needed anything.  I don't so they went on about their errands.  Natalie and husband will be leaving tomorrow and I really am glad I didn't have to tie up their time taking care of me.

Hope you all had a good day.  We just had a gigantic gully washer of a thunderstorm and both doggies are under the desk.

June, my apple sauce is my own home-made from last fall.  I do it up in small jars that are just the right size for lunch or a snack.  I forgot about cottage cheese.  I think I make a foray and pick up some of that tomorrow.  And I do have some cream of wheat for breakfast.  I was thinking an egg nog would be good, too.  Thanks for the ideas!

Good night everyfriend.  I'm off to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful night and may God bless us every one!

This came to me this morning in my mail.

Hope it is ok to share here..grab a tissue!!

Will you give this to my Daddy?

As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to support 'Red  Fridays'.

Last week I was in Atlanta, Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to  clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.

Moving through the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camos. As they began heading to  their gate, everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering.

When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for, it hit  me. I'm not alone. I'm not the only red-blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.

Of course, I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal.

Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran up to one of  the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said 'hi.'

The little girl then asked him if he would give something to her daddy for her.

The young soldier, who  didn't look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give to her Daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.

The mother of the little  girl, who said her daughter's name was Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for  11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter Courtney missed her father, the young soldier began to tear  up

When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all of the soldiers  huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other servicemen pulled out a military-looking walkie-talkie. They  started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it..

After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, 'I spoke to your daddy and he told me to  give this to you.' He then hugged this little girl that he had  just met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying 'your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very  soon.'

The mom at this point was  crying almost uncontrollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet, he saluted Courtney and her mom. I was standing no more than 6 feet away from this entire  event.

As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there  were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier in one last act of selflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.

We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them  and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it's good to be an American.

RED FRIDAYS ----- Very soon,  you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The  reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the  'silent majority'. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many American, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of Americans supports our troops.

Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect  starts this Friday-and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.  Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear something  red.

By word of mouth, press, TV  -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers,  friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is  covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever; certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is...We need your support and your prayers.

Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear something red  every Friday.

IF YOU AGREE -- THEN SEND THIS ON.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept well last night.  My "space" barely hurts at all and it's stopped bleeding completely.

AMY, that "red thing" isn't new.  But since I have to be in uniform for work on Fridays, I make my statement with sox.  I always wear red sox on Friday and I just recently bought a red tank top to wear under my navy blue shirt.

I made an egg nog for breakfast and it was pretty good!  Now I'm going out and put the coffee on.  Anyone want to join me?

No one seems to be taking advantage of our Perfect Weather Patio lately.  I wondered why and discovered those pesky elves haven't been cleaning things up.  So I've put them on notice, get our patio spick and span and sparkling AT ONCE  :whip: and keep it that way, or they'll be replaced.

Looks like they've done a pretty good job, so I'll take my coffee out there and enjoy the perfect weather.     Anyone coming?

Good Morning Everyone!

Cloudy, warm, muggy day out.  I see I didn't post yesterday, no one more than likely noticed, I guess I didn't click on "here" and mark my spot.

Janie, so happy you came through with flying colors with your dental problem.  Now just to let things heal.  I wish mine was over.  I am such a coward wen it comes to dentist.

My youngest daughter will be here around noontime to check on me and go out to lunch with me.  Her friend is coming up with her.  I am sure she will make her usual trip to Trader Joe's.

I have PT this morning and told Christi that I wouldn't be home till around 12:15.  Still haven't figured out where to take them for lunch.  Let them make the decision after they get here.

Jeanne, well there are still good companies left in this world.  And I am glad the two of you got together.

Got to get a move on....everyone have a great day.

Hope all have a good day, be better when fall is here (wishing my life away), but we don't get this day back
so find something to be happy about!

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be having another partly or mostly cloudy day with it only getting up to the high 80's. There is only a 20% chance of rain today.  Late yesterday afternoon I realized I was feeling much better and got up feeling the same way today. Sure hope this will last for a few days.  Pat is planning on going to Joann's with Jennifer today to get her some craft supplies as she is interested in learning to knit or croquet.  Had used to have a lot of croquet things but gave them all away knowing she would not be doing any more of it.  So it will be girl's morning out and expect they will stop somewhere for lunch.  Unfortunately a pain has returned to Pat's back that she has not had since we moved here and it is making her very uncomfortable.  Nothing else on the schedule for today although I may get into the car and go to the hardware store for a couple of things and perhaps make a quick trip to Aldi's.

I watched this short video this morning and it has a wonderful message for us:
https://biggeekdad.com/2015/07/interview-with-god/

Sandy, doesn't seem possible that Fe is now walking.  That is such a cute age as they learn to walk and discover the world around them.  Glad Kelly is back to go out with you.

June, glad to see you were all back in place yesterday and hope for the same today.  :)  June, like you I have only crossed over the border of both Canada and Mexico for brief periods of time and never stayed overnight.  It was certainly before 9/11.

deAngel, that must have been a very frightening experience with the big gun and bayonet pointed at you.  One of my coffee friends was telling me last week about flying on Elal, the Israeli airport, and the problems he had with security.  He said he was pulled out of line and interviewed and searched by three different teams of inspectors at the airport.

Shirley, I bet if you had a doctor's order or had a form from the trash company that you needed service to your door it would be provided.  However, I know you keep your fence locked so that probably would not work for you at this time.  I agree with you on wanting to stay on the ground and not in the air anymore.  I am sure we would all be very frightened if we knew we had Alzheimer's or any form of dementia and were losing control of our lives.  I saw this with my poor mother and Pat's mother experience the same thing but at an earlier age.

Jane, glad your dental work went so well.  I hate that numb feeling also.

Amy, that is a wonderful story you shared.  I actually experienced an event at the Atlanta airport several years ago where everyone stood and applauded as soldiers in uniform went by a fast food restaurant in the airport.  It was a very good feeling to be able to join in that applause.  That is a tear jerking story.  Our military families make great sacrifices for us all.  Glad your doctor's appointment yesterday went well. Farmer's are always concerned when they have hay to be harvested.

Hal, hope you have an enjoyable lunch with your daughter today.  Pat is going to have a main meal at lunch with our granddaughter and I will have a good lunch while I am out and about and we won't have to worry about fixing dinner tonight.  I have never been into a Trader Joe's.

Now, folks!  Just tell me how lucky I can get.  I just had a phone call  this morning warning me that the extended warranty on my car is about to run out, but if I just "press 1" I can save it!  This is really super because my 18 year old car, which never did have an extended warranty, went to the dump a year ago.   :2funny:   :2funny:

Jeanne Lee, that sounds much like the extended warranty letter I'd get about my 2003 car.  One year Norm checked to see how much it would be and the yearly price was more than the car was worth at the time.  I never had an extended warranty either.

It's a lovely 80 degrees (+/-) and I've enjoyed sitting out on my deck and that is where I ate the lunch Tom brought me.  There was a nice breeze and shade but the shade will leave soon as the sun moves around.  Or do we move?  Whatever!

Janie, I am so happy that you are healing easily and nicely. I never mind the actual extractions, but I hate the healing process which is slower for me.

Time to go fix an easy  lunch.

*Mad a deposit at the bank
*Paid my taxes
*Picked up some "easy-to-eat" stiff at tje groce
*stopped at the mail box for today's mail

And now I'm back home to stay for the rest of the day.

I also found out that my satellite receiver is not only not doing it's job, it's become obsolete and no amount of nudging is going to make it do it's job.  Someone else's trees are in the way and the only option is to upgrade and move the satellite to a better reception area.  Shouldn't those things last more than 10 years?  And isn't there anything we can do to stunt the growth of other people's trees?  Oh well!  What will be will be!

A good Tuesday HELLO to all from Vail Colorado!

We drove up yesterday morning to spend a couple of days with our son and two grand boys!

The drive was very enjoyable.....the views of our beautiful mountains are always spectacular no matter what time of year!  I feel so blessed.

We took the family to our favorite German Restaurant and I am sorry to say it was very disappointing.  My 20$ wiener schnitzel lunch meal was the size of a McDonalds sausage patty.  The meat was so thin it was not even tasteable. The spetzel was dry and tasteless as well.  Very sad to see this as this was one of the last restaurants that I liked the food and now it becomes one to never patronize again.  😤

On the other hand we enjoyed the beautiful flowers all over the little villiage.....so beautiful. There are so mant foreign visitors here, it is fun to see how happy they are to be here.

I have been sitting on the deck near the edge of Gore Creek enjoying the beautiful views and listening to the stream.  So peaceful.  My grandsons are such lovable little guys.....sure enjoy being with them.

I wis I could bring you all here to enjoy this as well.  Nice and cool in the shade with no humidity at all.

JANE, I am so happy your dental procedure went well.  I hope it heals well now and you can be done!

HAL, I share your feelings of going to the dentist.....most every experience I have ever had has not been good.  Now I stay away because I am not in pain, and if I go they always cause some problems.  Not wise, for sure, but it works for me.  I am very good at brushing several times a day and use a battery flosser device after I eat, which keeps my teeth nice and clean.

JEANNE LEE, that is very good to read about how your trash company is going to work with you.  Good for them.   Haha regarding them offering you such a deal for your extended warranty!  CrAzY!

I wish you all a good rest of your day.

Jenny

Oh, Jenny, how I would love to roam the streets of Vail right now.  Every time I've been there the flowers all over town, hanging & in the planters up & down the street are absolutely gorgeous!  I do envy you & wish you would post street photos!  We stayed in different areas of Vail, Eagle-Vail, Avon... & one other little area, "back in the day".  I am day dreaming.......

Jane, have you talked to anyone in your area about the little indoor antennas?  I am loving my TVs with no monthly charges & am more than satisfied with getting the local stations plus all these GET, ME & channels that bring the old shows in again.  I bought mine at Sam's Club, 2 in a box for about $60, all I had to do was tack them to a wall (comes with little push pins) & screw the thingy in where the cable was.  I liked them so well I got me another pair (1 per TV) & got to get a new TV for my bedroom... will have 4 good ones so I can cook, iron, sleep or be on the computer & still watch TV.  I saved enough the first month to pay for all 4 antennas. I don't remember the name of the ones I got, my son checked with his engineer friends & seem I lucked into getting the ones they approved of!    I know they are online as well.

Need to check on cats, one came in to eat & sleeping right behind me but Tiger & Mama Callie are holding out, they've been showing up later when it cools down a little (to 90).

JaneS I shouldn't tell you and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT, but you could get a sparer fill it with roundup and stand with your back to the wend facing the tree and spray it, or get him to let you higher a tree trimmer and have it pruned out  your dish. if he is a nice neighbor could explain to him his tree grew in the way of your dish and it was there fist. now if it shades you in the right place you may have to move your dish. Nancy and I went to the Amish auction  today and bought a bushel and 1/2 of peaches  and two and 1/2 bushels of tomatoes , we Have this afternoon caned eleven quarts of the peaches.more to do tomorrow. peaches first then the tomatoes.i have one of those long steam chopper's I take the  tomatoes and liquefy them and drink it often. Have a great rest of the day.

SHIRLEY, my son the TV expert (it's his business and he's been doing it in some capacity since he was big enough to hold his end of a tv set for deliveries) told me those thins work well if you are on flat land or fairly near the station or their signal antenna.  Most of the stations that serve us are on the other side of a mountain or many miles away.  We have to depend on cable or satellite for any service at all.  We are in a valley surrounded by mountains.  There is a relay station on top of a mountain that I can see from here but my son says it's at least 45 miles away.

Back in the days when everyone had antennas, if you weren't at least 50 feet above the roof you didn't get anything but snow.  Believe me, I've explored all the possibilities!  And if there were something that would work as well as your gadget, I'm pretty sure my son would install it in a minute just so he wouldn't have to listen to me complain.  But thanks for the thought.

JENNY, I'd love to sit there with you and listen to the stream.  I wouldn't even interrupt your reverie!

Good idea, LLOYD but I'm not in the habit of killing trees for entertainment.  And SHE isn't about to do anything to accommodate anyone but herself.  Her stuff is her stuff and she is very protective of it.  If she even thought I had anything to do with her tree dying, she haul me into court.

I woke up so tired, so took the day off and just loafed. Did a lot of sleeping and reading. So early this evening I went down to check my mail box, then out for a walk around the property. It's a lovely evening, so I sat out on one of the swinging benches and enjoyed. Now it is time to fix some supper. It will be  salad supper and then more reading or play some games on the computer. I'm sort of bored with my own company.

I'm up; doggies have been out and fed; I have my coffee and some grapefruit and I'm waiting for the sleepyheads to arise.

It's 68º and foggy as heck out there.  I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere this morning.  It' looks like a Fall morning.  I can hardly see to the corner.

The hole in my mouth hurts a little this morning but I'm going to hold off on the Alleve for a while and see what transpires.

Well Jane this sleepyhead  finally got up. :2funny:
What about taking 1/2 of an Alleve? Don't let the pain sneak up on you.

Into town this morning for blood work then home to tickle those weeds right out of the garden.

Better get a move on ...

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well Janie I can promise you it does look or feel like fall here.  Hot and muggy and dry (again).  I have to get myself outside and do some watering or some of my plants are going to vanish.

Lloyd you and Nancy have lots of work ahead.  But some good eating this fall/winter.

I have PT today (pool).  Think I will ask if they will install a beach so we can lounge around.....sure they will..   ;D

Hey Amy, how do you tickle a weed?  And do they laugh loudly or just sorta snicker........back when we just got after them with a hoe or pulled them.  My grandfather had some hoes that must have been a older than Moses and had been sharpened so many times that they were just a shadow of themselves, but you could weed a row in little to no time.  Of course as a kid, it took forever and lots of other things I would rather be doing.  Also what does tickling do? Make them die of embarrassment?

June, hope you awake rested this morning.  I never get a full nights sleep I am up and down most of the night taking care of business, most of the time I get right back to sleep.  But, sometimes, my old mind gets to working overtime and I cant get it to shutdown.

We have one more month of hot weather, August, and then we will start to have some cool weather and God willing some fall rains.  The Gulf has been quite, well except that one little low that formed right off the coast and gave us a little rain.  The Pacific has been fairly quite to.  Sometimes we get some good rains from the Pacific from those storms.

Got to get busy, everyone have a great day.  Coffee is ready for those who want a cup.

Hi everyone. This morning starts off nice and sunny but we will see cloudy this afternoon with a small chance of any rain.  Besides some household chores, many of which I have already accomplished, the only thing on tap for today is meeting Scott and Jennifer at Diablos for dinner fairly early this evening and then they will be out to spend a couple of hours.

Pat and Jennifer had an enjoyable time out yesterday visiting JoAnn's and then having a good meal at a Chinese Buffet that is right next door to JoAnn's. When they got home they sat down and Pat started to show her how to croquet and realized that Jennifer was left handed.  So Jennifer will have to learn from some videos on the Internet.  Pat said she knew that it was difficult for a right handed person to teach a left handed person to do that.  Pat is going to let Jennifer have the portable Bernina sewing machine she has as it is too heavy for Pat to take anywhere and she has a regular Bernina in her sewing studio and the Singer Featherweight downstairs in the sun room so no longer has a need for the other machine.

For the first time in a number of days I felt good yesterday and got out as planned and made quick stops at a hardware store, had lunch, made a quick stop at Walmart looking for something I didn't find, and finally stopped at Aldi's.  Rather than watch TV last evening Pat and I elected to listen to our audiobooks.

I went into my backyard a little bit ago with my trimming shears and cut out some creeping vines that were growing in one of our two corner bushes as well as trimming some of the branches of the holly bush that were getting grown out quite a bit.  Tomorrow I will be able to put it on the street and the city will pick the trimming up.

Lloyd, I have had a fresh South Carolina peach for breakfast yesterday and again this morning and they were so good.  My mother used to can peaches and they were so good throughout the year for special occasions.

Hal, do they have a lift into and out of the pool?  At the new community center pool they built in the county we moved from they made one end of the pool a gradual incline so you could easily get into and step out of the pool.  They had a separate lap pool next to the pool I just described.  Did your grandfather have a grinding wheel to sharpen his hoes and other tools?  My dad had one in his shop attached to an electric motor that was attached to his long workbench.  Lloyd, do you have a similar grinder in your shop?

Good morning.  Been a while since I have written anything here, but I do try to read the messages each day.   Just don't seem to have much to add to the conversations.  But, I do enjoy reading about everyone's days.

Larry, I did get another order from the on-line Walmart and, again, was very pleased with how it all worked out.   They were out of one item and they substituted a larger jar of mayo than the one I ordered and a larger package of boxes of Kleenex than the one I ordered. And, I wasn't charged any extra for the substitutions. And, I have been pleased with the quality of the produce that I have gotten.  Much better than I have gotten in the actual store.  So, I think I am as pleased as you are with how it all works.

Larry,  I am left handed and I have read that when a right-handed person is trying to teach a left-handed person how to crochet,  they should sit across from each other and that is suppose to be very helpful.   Also,  there are a lot of You-tube videos that teach a left-handed people how to crochet.   I have been crocheting since I was a little girl.   My mother was left-handed, so I guess that is how I learned.   I don't remember having to try to teach anyone how to crochet,

My fingers don't like to work right anymore, so it takes me longer to make something these days.  My fingers get all stiff.  But, I am still at it.  Making a afghan right now for a little great-grand daughter.  I used to do a lot of afghans for the Linus Project, but haven't done any for a long time.  And, have made many, many larger afghans for all of my children and grand children and lots of them as wedding gifts.  It is very relaxing and something I can do and watch TV at the same time.

Hope everyone will have a good day.  It has been hot here on the east coast.  We have not had the thunderstorms that have been predicted for our area for a week now.  It seems they are all around us, but we just don't get the rain, which is very much needed right now.

Nancy and I have been at it since about 7: A M. and about 11:AM I found the peach I had been hunting for ( last one ) Nancy is putting the last caner full on Now, that makes 40 quarts  saved if no more break. Had one quart brake in last cooker. I think we are going to take the rest of the day off after dinner and Nap.
I should had her take pictures of me hard at it. I pealed and sectioned them.you should see my lily white hands. see you all later. Nap time now and maybe eat a late noon meal.

LARRY, back when I was a Girl Scout leader, the kids decided that they wanted to learn to knit and since one of our leaders was moving away at the end of that school year, we decided to make squares for an afghan for her to take with her.  Unfortunately, I had 4 left-handed kids in the troop and it was practically impossible for them to learn from any of the leaders who were all right-handed.  I was voicing my concerns at home and my 14 year old daughter who is also left-handed and taught herself to knit, volunteered to come to my meetings and work with the kids who needed help.  She taught all of them to knit and I'm happy to say that the 3 who I still see, still enjoy knitting.  One of them is very proficient.  I asked her to take pictures and send them to Cindy to show her what she's responsible for.  She did and Cindy was amazed!  It seems she's the one who had the most trouble learning.

Isn't it nice to be able to see the accomplishments of someone you helped to learn?  Pat will be so pleased that she encouraged Jennifer.

T  storm is holding off so far....
Hal, the weeds are going to have to wait for me to tickle them more, I started to pull the weeds and along came the mosquitoes to help me. I didn't appreciate their help so came in doors to work.

I just finished cutting the grass  and trimming, that job is done for a while. When I catch my breath I think some cinnamon buns should be made

Joy, I am also left handed and learned to crochet from a book. A lot of trail and error and mostly error but I did manage it.and you're right have the left handed person sit across from the right handed person.

Lloyd, I can't wait till the peaches are in here.you will enjoy all your hard work come winter.

Jane, I was also in Scouting but I am sure the boys wouldn't want to learn how to crochet. I knew a gentleman that did knit and do embroidery work. His daughter was in skating and he would knit her nice warn socks.

Better go make a cup of tea, will be lots if anyone wants one and I will put some  cinnamon buns in the hidey hole..

Amy,  I have read about a lot of men who do needle work.  In fact,  on one of the You-tube videos is a guy named "Mike " who teaches crochet projects.

I have a brother-in-law who does beautiful counted cross stitch pieces.  He has won numerous blue ribbons at our state fairs.  Even did a big tablecloth for a gift for his wife.   Her name is Rose and the tablecloth had roses all over it.  It was beautiful.

And, the big, huge football player,  Rosie Greer, did various kinds of needlework.  Forgotten just what he did do, but remember seeing pictures of him working on a project.

Hello everyone, did not realize I had not posted since Saturday. Felt rotten all week end and then had appointments Monday and yesterday that wore me out. I have just read the posts, too many to comment on but

SHIRLEY  if you could find out the name of the antennas you bought for your TV's I would appreciate it. I have been asking around her to see if anyone has one but no one I know does. Cox just raised my monthly bill again. If that keeps up I will just have my internet and phone soon. I have checked online for the inside antennas but there are so many and the price goes from about $10.00 up to $75.00. This building is on a hill and I am on the top floor.

JANE  I was lucky with the last 4 teeth I had extracted, other than the numbness wearing off I really had no pain. Very little bleeding. The dentist said he was putting special gauze in the holes that would help heal and the gauze would fall out when it's job was done. I have read since then there is a gauze they use now on woulds in the battlefields that stops the bleeding on wounds and wondered if that is what was used on those 4 holes in my mouth.

I pray that JOAN will be agle to go home and come in and say hello to us soon.

Good Morning dear hearts, lately I have wakened two or three times to travel to the bathroom, don't know what brought on that change, but we have to accept it..or else.

My Gary is coming over early to answer some of my questions, and then we will go down for  Bible study. He has been gone for nearly three weeks, so it will be a treat to see him. They had a wonderful time In McCall with their kids and grandkids. Now it is back to their busy lives again.

Janie, don't wait for a bad pain to get started. No need for that.

Amy..good advice to our Janie..if she doesn't want a full dose, better to try a Half.

                                             :)

Back Again, My son came over early so we had a nice hour together. He cleaned up some stuff in my computer, gave me some tips on removing more, in hopes I will get more speed out this dear old Mac.

His Bible class is being shared with another young man…they are taking turns with the book of Matthew.  Gary did the first 12 pages of Matthew, Chapter 3. One lady told me what he said today was just what she needed to hear. She felt inspired. I always feel such Pride in my son. I hope that is not a sin.

My day off yesterday paid off. I feel great today. I may go to another program at 1:30. We discuss current topics and have a root beer float afterwards. I'm beginning to think I am real just plain lazy, and have to shape up or ship out. And I choose the first. I would rather drop dead being active than just waste away.

I hope you are all feeling well and frisky. Hug

Joy and Amy, both my dad and his brother learned crocheting, in fact, my uncle crocheted a beautiful bedspread for his wife.  When I visited my cousin in 1990, the bedspread was in use on a bed that got little use.  My dad knit socks and before WWII started, Dad, Mother and I all knit sweaters for soldiers; we worked on the same sweater.  Dad purled different than Mother and I did but we three enjoyed doing the knitting.  My mother tatted and tried to teach me, but it was my dad who finally taught me to tat.  Now with arthritis in my hands and fingers, I cannot tat.

Dad was a good cook too.

Oh, Mary Ann.  We had a really special neighbor who tried to teach me to tat, but I just couldn't get the hang of it.

But, she did beautiful tatting.  I still have several large doilies that she tatted and I do still use them.   They are not easy to take care of, tho.   She also did a lot of tatted edgings for towels and hankerchiefs.  I still have some of those, also.  And, some linen doilies that my mother made and then used the tatted edgings to put around the edge.

Years ago, I had a nice set of padded table pads for my dining room table and when  I turned them over, they were perfect for blocking the tatted doilies when I would wash and starch them.  Used to pin them to the table pads and cover them with a Turkish towel.  They turned out beautiful. The ones I use now don't get that good of special treatment anymore.  I do the best I can using my ironing board.

I have tried several times when we had yard sales to sell a lot of my crocheted doilies, but nobody was the least bit interested in them.  I have a whole pillowcase full of them.  I do still use the  tatted pieces, tho.  Love the delicate look of them.

Joy, in the days when I could only buy white pillow cases, ones that had to be ironed, I had to crochet edgings on them, any color, but they had to have edgings.  Now, I don't have that "phobia" and none of my current cases have edgings.  I still have many of the cases I edged, but wouldn't think of using them because I don't want to have to iron them!  I don't know if that's laziness or progress.

I have some doilies in use, made by my mother or me and one that I don't know if her mother made it or not.  I have one on my mother's sewing cabinet that my dad's mother made for me.  I really don't have a lot in use, but I like them.

well friends as I often say I am a jack of all trades master of none, I  both did
Knitting and crocheting. I first learned Knitting when I was driving over the road
I would take my Knitting into the truck stop and go to the truckers table and set down and go to work ( lot of teasing Lot of fun ) the reason i quit knitting then was because , I would put it in the sleeper and bouncing around the retainers would jar off of the needles and drop lot of stitches. spent too much time picking them up. I made a sweater and looking it over after done and right in the middle of the back was a hole caused by when picking up the stitches I either picked up a purl stitch when it should been a knit or other way around. but I have too many irons in the fire now so have not done it in a long time, Maybe when I get old and setting around will do it again. now too busy canning to think about it. Have a rest of the day great.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

HOME after a very enjoyable visit to Vail.  It was so nice to be there with my boys.  Felt sad to leave them as we get to spend so little time with them now that they live in Boston.

On the way driving down and I called my dad.  He is not going to be able to fly to Denver to be with us on our anniversary!  He has been dizzy again, using his walker and it just would not be a good idea to come to this altitude.  I am very sad, but I would not want him to come and have something happen.

JUNE, sure glad you were feeling better today.

SHIRLEY, maybe I can send some of the pictures from Vail to someone to post for me.  They really are so pretty and I would love to share them.  It was just beautiful up there as you can well imagine.

JANE, I guess it is expected that your mouth would be sore today, and I hope you were able to get by with out taking the meds.  I just don't want you to suffer, so take them if you have to.  Oh how I would have enjoyed your company on the patio listen to the creek and enjoying the view.  My youngest grandson greeted me this morning so sweetly, then asked, "nana how do you take your coffee"?  It was so cute.... he is 7 and quite the boy.  So sweet.

I must head to bed.  Pleasant dreams to all.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 68º amd foggy this morning.  Looks like Fall out there but that will change quickly.  We are heading for a hight of 91 today and the humidity will be high also.  It's high summer in PA.

I did take my Alleve before I went to work last night and it was better.  I've already taken some this morning as it was throbbing when I got up this morning.  I think the worst part is not being able to eat most things.  She said to avoid things that crumble or break up and things that take a lot of chewing and might have pieces that could break off and lodge in the wound.  That really doesn't leave much!  And when I'm hungry, I'm not a pleasant person to be around.

Have a WM story to share.  It's really hard to feel sorry for oneself when you know others have worse problems.  Last night, my last customer was a lady and her daughter who looked to be about 14.  When I finished ringing them out, the lady said, "I thought I was watching pretty close.  I only brought $65. with me.  I'll have to put something back."  So she took out an item and I deducted it and her bill was $65.56.  She began looking for something else to take off and I remembered that I'd picked up the change off the dresser and put it in my pocket.  I never do that but I did that day.  I reached in my pocket and there was 58 cents.  I put it out and she began to protest.  I insisted and she thanked me.  Then she started to tell me why she was short.  Her problem made mine shrink to nothing and I gave her a hug and thanked her for being there for me.  She didn't understand but she was very grateful.  I think she will remember me with kindness and I KNOW I'll remember her.

And incidentally, I slept right through the night!  God loves us one and all!

Good morning everyone..

Another hot humid day here again. I managed to do some weed pulling last evening and hope to get back at it today.

Jane, what a lovely gesture on your part but it doesn't surprise me one bit. I know you are a thoughtful lady with a big heart!

Jeanne Lee that is good news about Pat. Now to get the good news about Joan.

Gloria, hope you feel much better today. Did your son say if the apple crop will be good this year?

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi everyone. We have a nice sunny morning and it is going to be in the mid-90's today.  It looks like it is going to be another good day for me as feel like doing things this morning.  I will take my friend or coffee and back to his care home and then plan on going back to the Church for the Wisdom group, which I have not attended for the last couple of weeks.

We had a nice dinner at Diablos with Scott and Jennifer and then a very pleasant evening with them.  For the last three weeks or so they have been playing a little game called Farkle and they really enjoy it.  It is a little game played with six dice and the score is determined by what is thrown in two tries.  I will probably watch some of the British Open Golf Tournament, although the time difference may interfere with that as it is already on this morning.  I see the Jordan Spieth is off to a very good start and currently leads.

I am running out of time this morning before I will need to leave so will limit my comments today.

Joy, glad you continue to be pleased with the online ordering of groceries from Walmart.  Pat is putting in another order today.  I will pass on the tip about sitting across from each other that you and Amy mentioned to teach a left handed person to knit.  Years ago I did some cross stitch work including a quilt that had the pattern printed on it.  I was just looking for something to keep my hands busy.  Then the computer came along and staying busy was no longer a problem.

Gloria, I hope you are feeling much better today.

Jane, what a nice story about your experience in helping the lady with the extra change you had in your pocket.  You will never miss it and you made the day for someone.

Jane, knitting other crafts like it are something that can be enjoyed thorough out much of a person's life until physical conditions interfere.

Good morning on another hot and humid day here. My AC is getting a real workout. Only time I shut it off for a break is in the mornings before the heat builds up again in here. By 1pm my shades will be down to keep the sun out.

JEANNE  great to read that Pat is going home at last. I pray  she will continue to feel better with each day.

JENNY  you know I would love to see those pictures. Me and my love of scenery, especially mountains. The highest place here is a little over 600 feet.

JANE  that lady will always remember your kindness.

AMY  thanks to the gypsy moth caterpillars he will have another year with no apple drop. He was telling me yesterday that he has 3 big oak trees that are now dead because of them and he will have to have them cut down. One is too close to the house to leave it there.

LLOYD  you make me wish I could still can like I used to. Not cool here, already 89 here.

HAL  yesterday my back was bad and my CNA gave me a good back massage with Tiger Balm and it felt good for a few hours. Wish she was here today.

LARRY  thanks I do feel a bit better. I will not be going outside for some fresh air though. Too hot and humid.

You all missed the point.  That lady might remember my 56 cents but I'll never forget her story.  I needed to hear it yesterday.  It helped me to put some things in perspective for almost nothing.  She is a very strong, very brave lady and she was meant to come through my line at the time she did.  God knew we needed each other!

And, knowing how sincere you are,  that lady was just destined to turn up  in your check-out line.

Hope everyone will have a great day.  I just have not had a lot to talk about.

Janie, your experience yesterday reminded me of something I read. It is from the book, "Jesus Calling".

".....you have chosen the better thing, which will never be taken away from you. Moreover, as you walk close to Me, I can bless others through you."

Jane, I feel your work at WM has put you in a place where you can allow your loving nature to reach out to others. And you do. You leave yourself open to help others, and that is a huge Blessing.

Good morning everyone...

So far the rain and storms that the weather guesser has been calling for has held off in this area. Need to gather up the garbage to take it to the dump, one last can of stove ashes to go and some tree limbs I cut down too.

Lloyd, that is a lot of hard work you and Nancy have done..looks great!!

Jane, we think our troubles are so bad until we hear or see of someone else and then ours  is nothing compared to theirs. I agree with June and I think both you and the customer were in the right place He wanted you to be in.  Cherries are just coming in here....next will be peaches I hope!!!

Hal, hope your back is better today.

Larry, 90 ° is too hot for me, yet we do get days like that and it usually comes with a lot of humidity!

Enjoy your day everyone..

I finally got my kitchen lighting fixed yesterday and I think I found a handy man in the guy who did the jog.  He likes doing small jobs for people like me who need a little help now and then.  I think he was a lucky find.

Gotta go get a shower and get dressed.  Have a great day, Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, think this is the earliest I have been up all week. Humidity is supposed to be lower today so maybe I will go out for some fresh air later.

LLOYD  I live in Rhode Island-in the New England states, on the coast, the smallest state in the USA.  Yes me son has a small orchard but the last 2 years with no apple crop. We had an invasion of gypsy moth caterpillars and they did a lot of damage to the trees. They ate all the leaves and buds and left bare trees. He has a pick your own orchard and he has a lot of regular customers. He has about 8 different varieties of apples. I would get a mix of them, bruised or marked someway and I make applesauce from them. Nothing wrong with them except they do not look perfect.

JOY  you and me both, this past week I have really felt like I was in a fog or something. Do not like that feeling.

LLOYD  oh boy  all that canning is a lot of work but oh it will taste so good when the winter gets here and you can enjoy a taste of summer. Those peaches make me want some of them now.

JANE  so glad you finally found a good handyman and your light is fixed.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyone!

it appears that everyone has staked out something to do today, except me, I have nothing but PT at 11 and some washing to do.

Wife is in France and at the Grandson-in-laws parents house for their inspection.  I hope things go well and she doesn't pick her nose with her thumb. (just kidding).   I am sure my Daughter and Wife are nervous as a cat on a tin roof.  But I think they will get along just fine.  At least the are having some cool weather, wish we were.

Amy, is there anything you cant do?  Or wont do?  Seems like you always have things well in hand and planning ahead for other task.  You are quite a lady.  Seems like this forum is blessed with an abundance of talented folks, men and women.

Janie, I thought you had gotten you lights fixed long ago.  What did they finally do?  New fixtures or what?

I went over the daughters house for supper last night, some good ribs and baked sweet potato and a piece of pumpkin pie for dessert.  It was all so good.

Coffee is ready and all are welcome to have a cup.  We can straighten out the worlds affairs.

Hi everyone. Another very hot day on tap here in South Carolina going up into the mid-90's by afternoon.  When I came out of the Church yesterday about 12:45 the car registered the outside temperature at 107 (the car had been parked in the sun0 and the inside must have been 120 or so.  It took a little bit for the A/C to cool things down.

I have two things on the agenda for today.  I have my appointment at the GP's office at 10:30 and then will go to Walmart to pick up the online grocery order Pat put in yesterday.  The rest of the day will be spent inside where it is cool.

Gloria, so sad that your son has lost another year's apple crop and those big oak trees.  Have you ever used a Tens Unit for your back pain?  Stacey used one for a long time and unfortunately we gave it away after she passed.  However, Pat is considering buying one to use with her back pain.

Lloyd, your canned foods looked great.  I think we tend to forget how good home canned or frozen foods taste when it has been a long time since we have had any.

Jane, I shared your story with the group at our Wisdom Class yesterday.  You are a special lady and I bet the lady won't forget your kindness with the money and being willing to listen to her and caring.  I really don't believe things like you experienced are coincidences. I am glad your kitchen lights are finally fixed and it is good to know a person who is capable of doing the little jobs that come up around a house.

Joy, sometimes it is just enough to stop by and say hi in a posting. It is not so much what we say here but that we come and share even a little bit of ourselves with this online family.

June, we are blessed to have you as a good friend here in our cyber family.

Amy, Pat got some cherries a few days ago and they were good.  Our very hot days are also usually filled with humidity that make them very oppressive.

Hal, what you have on the schedule for today sounds like enough.  No sense overdoing a good thing.  :)

Dear Ones, it has started out to be a busy day, and I have enjoyed the opportunity to use my brain. Had a business call from a nice lady, wanting my new address for an account I share with my son Dan. I hesitated to give her any information, and she said she had Dan on the line too, and so she put him on, and he O.K.'d to reply, so I did. She was a real sweetheart, and I enjoyed talking with her. My son called back later and said the lady could not believe I was going on 93 years of age. What a great way to start a day !!!!!!!!!! Then Dan and I continued a chat for about half an hour or more. God has truly blessed me with two fine sons.

Amy, it is always such a treat to start my day on Srs. with your message. You always sound so "up" and that is a true gift. Thank you my dear one. You take everything in stride, no feeling sorry for yourself, no complaints, always "up". Thank you!!!

Janie, it will be a treat to hear what happened at work today. Dealing with the variety of personalities you meet every day is SO interesting. Thank you, for sharing.

Gloria, are you still up to making apple sauce ?? You amaze me. Have the trees recovered enough to birth some apples now ? Has one of the sons taken over the orchard, or did you daughter and Hubby sell out ?

Hal, your wife is in France ??? I thought she just got home from England. My brain is worse off than I thought.

Larry, we are all a Blessing to one another. Just the way God wanted it to be.

Hello, Everyfriend (if I may still call you that since I haven't posted in a long time),

All is well in my world.  I just can't seem to get into the "rhythm" of the themes in the daily posts.
I don't have pets to talk about but I do enjoy the birds and critters that come to my back yard.

There’s a cute bunny rabbit family in my yard every evening.  I spray the bedding plants with “stinky stuff” and, so far, they have left those alone.
I had only seen the baby bunny a few times â€" first cautiously exploring the fence line and scooting back and forth through the hole under the fence.  Then it started nibbling grass between the fence and the bird feeders.  Mama or Daddy were usually around somewhere.

One evening, Daddy was nibbling grass  near the bird feeders and Baby was getting bolder and bolder about roaming around the other side of the holly tree where Dad couldn't see.    When Baby was almost to my patio,  Dad looked up and then raced to chase Baby back to the fence where it scooted underneath.

In a few minutes, Mama appeared.  Baby crept out and over to her.  They touched noses and then Baby continued eating in the “allowed” area between the fence and the bird feeders.

Quite an experience to see the family interaction and “discipline”.  I could just imagine the “conversation” â€" “Young lady/man, what did I say about staying where I can see you?”  :noway:  “  :sorry:, Dad; I'll behave"   and then  ”Mooommmm,  Daddy was mean to me”.  :'(  “Sorry, baby, but you need to pay attention”.  :-*  “Yes, Mama <sigh>”  :angel2:.
Last night,  Baby managed to get far enough to explore the patio without being discovered but by the time Dad appeared, it was innocently nibbling grass in the "allowed" area.

I can talk about the heat.   Right now,  the thermometer on my patio reads 108 degrees!  Don't even want to think about what it is in the direct sun!
If you have any extra rain, please send it this way.   There seems to be a "no rain" boundary around my part of town.

I'm spending most of these hot days reading and reading and reading e-books from the library.  .....And that's where I'm headed now.

June, wife will be in France until Tuesday and then  back to England for a week returning to the states on the 2nd of August.

Got a call from the dentist, going to remove the tooth on Tuesday at 9:45.
Will be happy to get that over with.  I have decided to just let him deaden it and pull.  If he hurts, he hurts, at least I want be drowsy the rest of the day.

Callie, I remember as a kid we had Cotton Tails all over the place and also Jack Rabbits, the long ears.  I could never bring myself to hunting a cotton tail.

Back to golf.

I came home from work and wrote a nice post while I was resting.  Then I posted it....NOT! and went to do my errands.  Now I'm done and I'm tired and I'm not going to try to reconstruct.

Hal, the lights had an electrical issue and needed more than the guy was able to do.  But thank goodness, it's done now and I can see.

It's hotter'n blue blazes today.  Not a good day to run around.  My mother sometims described a hot summer day as "hotter'n the hinges of hades", and I'd say that's pretty durn hot.

I'm off to catch a couple of zzzzs before supper....if the dogs will allow me.  Stay cool, folks.

The coyotes have returned to the ravine in back.  We are in the the normal afternoon pattern of rain and thunder here.

Amy:  I have been working on the latest quilt and can only handle a couple of hours per day.  Thanks for the sites you sent.  I need to go through the stash of UFO's.

Gloria :  Are you the one asking about a Tens unit?  We have one and use it a few times per year.  That was quite a story at your airport.  I wish we would profile here, things would be easier.

Jeanne Lee:  Great service from your new trash company.

Lloyd:  Lovely kitchen pictures - enjoy your feasts.

Joy:  I have hand-made rugs from Swedish relatives and doilies from mom - none of the children want any of these treasures.

Callie, In my life's book, Friendships never end , and if God allows me Heaven, I will still, hopefully, be reading messages. I loved reading about the rabbit family. Isn't it rather rare for their to be only one baby in the family ? I thought they had many in one batch.

Reading about the high temps some of you are having, I got ashamed and turned off my A.C. Our high was to be in the mid 80's and I should be able to abide that. If I had a south window I would not need A/C, as that seems to be where the breeze comes from here in Stanton. I have only East windows so the sun starts early in my Apt.

Hal, my mind is faulty. I was under the impression she had come home…was that a daughter ?? I should be seeing a dentist too, but I'm not going to…no pain, so I let a broken tooth do what it wants to do. I am too old to go through extensive tooth care now. I'm sure you will do fine Hal, so many improvements in dental care now.

Janie, I get so angry with myself when I forget to post a message, and then Poof…it is gone. I think your doggies love you so much they will allow you to snooze a bit. How I miss having a nice snuggly dog. we always had a stray come to live with us as kids, and all during our married life we had dogs, a cat, turtles, gold fish, birds, and white rats at one time.

Carol, I would adore having your summer weather here. I was raised in Mn. and summer rains were the normal way of life, and so welcome.

I sat outside reading this afternoon…nice breeze out there, and lovely conversations with passers-by. Came home and had a cold shower…very refreshing…and now it is time to think about some supper, I think it will be a big salad, eaten in front of the t.v.

Oh, Gloria, I keep forgetting to go downstairs & find the box these antennas came in.... but you really should check to see if anyone can get reception in your building or even in the general area.  I am in the heart of Wichita & can get the local stations & a lot of channels that show the old shows like Ironsides, Wagontrain, The Brady Bunch, Mama's Family, lots I'm not interested in but find enough to keep me entertained.  I rarely sit & watch, am on the computer, ironing or cooking.  I promise I will look the name up.

My internet has been giving me fits this week, will be doing e-mail & all of a sudden it isn't connected & lose whatever I'm doing.  Same with typing a post, won't even let me save something I'm working on & I know that is a computer problem & not internet.  With this heat I do think my brain is fried.  Need to fill my car with gas but guess I'll wait until I get up in the morning, still breath taking to walk out the door.  Whine-whine.  My neighbor said it was 108 today but the "feels like" is so much worse.

Today Tom stayed inside, went out for a little while at their usual time to eat but didn't find his buddies so came on back in.  Tiger & their mother were here for breakfast & went out to lay around the pool.  They were gone before noon & now it's nearly time for their midnight snack & so sign of them.  They must hunker down by the river.

I've been seeing a lot of rabbits in the yard & on the hill side... (no jackrabbits, Hal).  The cats don't bother chasing them anymore.  I need to take my weed whip down to clean up the path across the river bed to the water.  Water was high for so long & the weeds grew tall before the mud dried up right by the edge of the bank.  Still have a small stream that comes along the old bank & I don't like to "hop" over it, so kind of a mess down there.  I'm missing seeing the egrets & herons but not willing to go work out in this heat.

So this is my world right now.  Glad to see Pat is out of the hospital and hope Joan gets "sprung" soon.  Best wishes to all.  Canned goods looks delicious, Lloyd.  Sweet dreams!  Shirley

Tisie, I saw on 5 o'clock weather that the big summer high is sitting right above you and your temp today was 108.  My Lady, that is hot in any language.    They said a low was trying to move West from Florida but the high was going to block it, so we will remain d r y.  But not as hot as you, just about the century mark.

Nothing pressing to do today, just laundry and chase those dust bunnies. Will see how hubby feels and might go get some more strawberries to do down.

Callie, enjoyed the banter of the bunnies

Jane, I am giving the girls a product made by Wellytails, good for cartilage, hip and joints. I hope it helps Golden girl as she is having trouble with her hips. Just hope it helps her!

Better get a move on here.

Good Morning Everyone!

I stuck my nose outside for a second, when I let the dog out, and it is really warm out.  Hopefully that low headed this way from Florida will nudge that old high sitting North of us up, up and away.  But I doubt it.  The tropical lows that come in off the Gulf can be downright cool.  And the bring some much needed rain.

My cleaning lady is coming today to give the place a good cleaning.  But she will be in and out in no time.  She called last night to tell me she would be here.  She just got back from Vegas, I told her: Guess you didn't win in Vegas since you are coming to my house today....LOL

Coffee is ready......Lloyd, quite picking on Nancy...... :-X

Hi everyone. It is going to be another very hot day here just as yesterday was but this afternoon we are to be under a heat advisory due to a high dew point and the extreme heat.  I plan on getting out this morning and attending a meeting and then staying in the rest of the day. There was nothing exciting about yesterday.  The doctor's appointment went well.  The PA told me I should take a B Complex vitamin and increase my salt intake. I went from there to Walmart for my groceries.  I had called on the way to say I would be there in five minutes.  As I drove up the door opened and the clerk rolled out my groceries as she had been waiting for me at the door.  That was a first.  I stopped at Arby's and picked up a couple of sandwiches for our lunch.

June, nice that Dan could be on that call with you when you spoke to the lady about your address.  I think you were remembering that Sandy's daughter had returned from England while her granddaughters remained overseas for more sightseeing. Enjoy your air conditioning when it gets warm as more important that you stay comfortable that a dollar or two more on a bill.  I just got something yesterday saying my budget plan for our electricity was being reduced by $35 for the next six months.  That was a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

Callie, I liked your recounting of the rabbits experience.  Little baby animals are always so cute as long as they don't eat our plants.  Reading is a great thing to do during these very hot summer days.

Hal, maybe the pain medication you have for your back will also help the pain from the tooth extraction. I have never lived where I could see a live jack rabbit.

Carol, too bad your family members don't want to keep the hand-made rugs and doilies.  My grandmother had tatted and croqueted some beautiful doilies and I think we still have some of them.

Shirley, I am concerned when you say you are going to take a weedeater down by the river to trim.  It is so easy to lose one's balance on uneven ground.  You are having hotter temperatures than we are as we haven't hit 100 degrees yet this year although it sure seems like it.

Lloyd, I hope Nancy's mood improves or you are going to have a long day.  I can relate sometimes.

Amy, hope you can get some good strawberries today.  Our fresh strawberry season is over.  I hope the medication helps your dog.

Good morning everyone, another HHH day here. no sun shining so maybe it will not get too hot. I will be happy when the temperature hits the low 80's for a high. Then I would be able to go out and enjoy some fresh air.

LARRY  when I had PT years ago they used a Tens machine, loved how that felt. I had a heating pad with a setting to vibrate and I wore that out. t was given to me and I have no idea where it was purchased. Maybe I should look online to see where and how much one would cost

JUNE  those caterpillars ate all the leaves and buds on the apple trees. The buds  start forming in the fall after the apples are off the trees. Will have to wait till next spring to see if there will be any blossoms. It is my oldest son who has the orchard.

CALLIE  love your bunny story. My daughter has been telling me about a family of quail that she watches every morning. My SIL has a flat pan that he puts water in and they come to drink. Th dad hops on top of something high and keeps looking around while mom and babies drink, then mom gathers the babies and dad drinks and they file up and go back up the hill. I have been going downstairs and getting books from the library here.

CAROL  not me asking about a Tens unit but I would love to have one. Must have been Gloria de who mentioned the airport.

2 hours later. My son was here and he just left. He always does a few things I cannot do. He is my thoughtful son, always has been like that.

SHIRLEY  I have asked around and no one I know has  one of the indoor antennas. I have checked online and there are many different types. You are the only one I know who has one. Years back when everyone had the antennas on the roof we always had good reception. We are between the Providence and Boston channels, just a bit closer to Providence.

LARRY  the electric bill I just paid went up $25 because of the AC. I expect the next one will be much higher because with this heat I am running it most of the day and night. I only shut it off in the morning when I get up because by then it is nice and cool in here. By noon it is running again.

Time for me to get going.

Good Morning from Ca. It was cool and cloudy till just a moment ago when the sun came on stage and raised the curtain. So as I sit in the sun room typing I feel my left shoulder warming up. And I hear my neighbors conditioner running.

A friend sent me a bunch of beautiful pictures of a trip they took up the Oregon coast. They travel every year and he shares pictures of their trips. He has a wonderful camera, and he is a good photographer, so I am fortunate.

Larry, my electricity is included in my rent. I do pay for computer and t.v. connection, but they pay my bill and place it on my receipt. The only checks I write now are for Church, and other donations,  Gary and Dori even do all my gifts and cards to the immediate family. I am very well cared for.

Gloria, thank you for informing me about your oldest son owning the orchard. My mind is really shooting blanks lately.

My eyes are saying they want a short nap, so I will oblige.

A good Saturday HELLO to all.

I enjoyed a beautiful morning...it was 66* when I got up.  The cool air and filtered sunshine was just delightful as I caught up on my iPad.  Life is good.

The time is drawing near for the festivities to begin as we celebrate our 50th anniversary together with our family this coming weekend.  As sad as I am that my dad can not be here with us, I am just feeling overwhelmed and extremely blessed that all of our children and their families will be here with us.  My best friend can not be here either as she is having a knee replacement this week.  She lives in Rock Springs Wyoming, and will have to travel to Steamboat Springs to get her surgery done.  There was no other time that she could get it done, so it was important that she do it on this date.

SHIRLEY, I really like your "changing faces" picture, that is on my screen right now.  You remind me of a movie star, and I think it might be Mary Martin?  I must admit that I worry about you with all the
maintenance issues that you have around your place.  So much to do for one lady.  Try to stay cool!

CAROL, the little rain showers we have been getting sure have been nice and so appreciated!  Your comment to Gloria, I think it was, regarding Ten units ? I guess I have been missing a lot as I did not remember reading anything about this and do not know what that is?
I also do not remember anything that Gloria posted about an incident at a airport!  I think I am slipping!  I did go back and try to read her posts to no avail. 😪  It makes me sad that our children really do not care a bit about the family items that we have cherished for so many years.  Oh well, nothing we can do to change their minds either!

CALLIE, you have been missed.....I noticed and hoped that nothing was keeping you away.  I enjoyed your bunnie story.  The wild life sure can be entertaining.

GLORIA, I enjoyed your Everything I Learned.....some of them are so very true.  Hope you are feeling good today.  Enjoy.

JANE, happy to read the handy man you found did a good job fixing your light issue.

No big plans for the day, but what ever we decide to do I hope we can be outside enjoying our beautiful weather.

Have a good day, EVERYFRIEND.

EDIT......I just read your post, GLORIA, and you answered two of my questions.....thank you.  I am sorry to read there are more issues that the darn catapillers have caused at your sons place.  We used to love watching the little quail families when we lived in AZ.  They are so tiny and cute.

Good afternoon, I also join in talking about this heat wave, this will be our 3rd day of 90's

Larry, we just just got a notice from Cablevision, we will be going up another 49s, as they did some dumb thing to improve my TV!? They told me they could reduce the rate if I took off the golf channel, and that is one of my favorites, i have it on all the time.

Have to go two neighbors just came in to to talk.

Good morning everyone, sun is still sleeping under her cloud blanket. Last local forecast I saw the guesser said we may be in for some cooler days. That I would enjoy.

JUNE  my son still has to take care of the trees and spray them. He is discouraged this year and said if no crop next year again he will cut the trees down. Just keep a few for family.

LLOYD  in this building we cannot have anything in an attic or on the roof.  They do not want window air conditioners either. Have to get the portable ones.

JEANNE LEE  thanks for the link. Been a long time since Aki posted. Moe is a beauty and so grown now.

JENNY  I think it was Gloria de who talked about an airport. A Tens machine  has patched that go on the pain area and pulse with some heat. Runs with electricity and feels so good.  Where did you see Shirley's changing faces? That I would love to see, too. In case I forget later, Happy 50 Anniversary to you and Bob.

GLORIA de  there is supposed to be a "cold" front coming through today. Great to get away from that heatwave.

AMY  my grandson had to take his Lab to the vet on Friday. The dog now has a pacemaker. He has had her 7 or 8 years now.

Well it is still warm here and humid. But the worst month is to come, August.  But then some cool weather.

Coffee is on and pup has been out and I need to get a move on and get cleaned up for church.  Going to my Granddaughters with the rest of the family for supper tonight.  Will be nice to have everyone together.

Lloyd, I guess we all feel the same as you, but we have little say in the matter.

Got to get a move on.

Larry, I found out that the strawberries are over  with for another year, I am thankful for the ones I did get and they will taste delicious in the winter.

Gloria, I hope next year will be better for your son and hope he has a bumper  crop!!

June, you are allowed to have a weary day...yesterday mine consisted of a 2 hour nap!!!

Hal, hope your back feels much better today.

Hi everyone. It is going to be another hot 94 degree afternoon with little chance of rain.  I am going to have to turn my sprinkler system back on so it will water early tomorrow morning.  I expect this to be our normal Sunday with Sunday School and Church this morning and then just have a restful rest of the day.  Since the golf tournament is it England most of the play today will be over by the time we get home.  I really enjoyed watching it yesterday as the leader, Jordan Spieth, played masterfully.  He is ahead by three strokes starting this last day.

Yesterday my new neighbor, James, who lives across the street from us, brought over two bags of rocks and spread them in a place by my fence that was washing out and then poured the dirt from the two big planters I had on top of the rocks.  That should take care of the problem.  I traded him the planters and bases for the two bags of rocks and his labor.  He told me he had met the new neighbors that just bought the house next to us and it was an older woman with her son that would be moving in.  So our end of the street should remain a very quiet one.

Gloria, I just did a quick check and see the Tens units run anywhere from $25 to about $50.  I am going to encourage Pat to order one as it might help her back pain, which has been severe the last couple of days.  Thankfully she said she was feeling better this morning.  we have an all electric home and have been using the A/C for weeks and weeks.  So I was surprised to see the electric bill go down.  We use a lot of electricity in our home.

June, nice of your friend to share her pictures with you.  It is sort of like taking a mini trip.

Jenny, where will you be having your special celebration?  Nice all of your children and grandchildren will be there and you know your Dad will be there celebrating with you.

deAngel, that is a steep increase in your Cable bill of $49.  I could easily reduce the package we have for the Dish but there are channels my wife enjoys that wouldn't be available and I would also miss some of the Sports channels.

Lloyd, glad you got some rain but no damage.  These storms after really hot days can often cause a lot of problems.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been to the church and stayed for coffee hour after.  I shared my WM story with them this morning and they all agreed that some higher force made me pick up the change that morning and also sent that nice lady through my line.  Someone even said, "That meeting was prearranged."  I agree.

Now I'm waiting for the Dish Tech so show up to move my satellite.  After I had my trees trimmed it was still being blocked and it turns out there's a very large pine tree in the yard across the street that is the problem.  Since it's an evergreen, it will be a year-round problem so we are going to find another place to put my dish and hope for trees with slow growth.  They gave me a window of Noon to 5 yesterday and this morning they called to be more specific....3 to 4:15 this afternoon.  I usually don't contract for any work to be done on Sunday but they gave me a choice of Sunday or Monday afternoon and I have an eye dr. appt. tomorrow.

I'm going to cook something this afternoon so I can replenish my freezer meals.  I also bought some stuff to make pasta salad with the pasta I cooked yesterday some of which I ate with my own home-canned spaghetti sauce.

My space where the teeth were removed must be healing because this morning I realized it doesn't hurt....it ITCHES like crazy!  If you've ever had an itch you couldn't scratch, you know how frustrated I am.  But, as Pollyanna would say, "I'm glad it doesn't hurt anymore!"

I wish you all a lovely day full of whatever you wish for.  If it's rain you want, maybe if I blow hard enough, I can send some of our excess to you!  Enjoy your day whatever it brings!

Jenny, I absolutely am ROF with your " You remind me of a movie star".... Nobody ever accused me of that before!   I forgot about putting those old photos in, at the time "we" were talking about changes over the years, either here or over in Photos.  Not everyone goes from pitch black hair to ghost white.  When I see a photo of me I am always surprised at that person, not what I thought I  look like.

Larry, thanks for your concern about my falling, that never crosses my mind I could get hurt, just dirty.  I've had my tumbles the last few years but only thing injured was my head (once) and dignity many times.  I bounce pretty good yet.

Gloria, I did Google for prices but think everyone is a better "Googler" than I am. Prices all over the place but here's 2 different ones to think about & beat.  My packages of 2 each came with a 30 mile & 50 mile range.... and I can't tell the difference on any of them.   I think I said I bought 2 boxes of 2 each but bought 3 boxes (total 6 antenna).  I started counting rooms & TVs & that 6th got plugged into a tiny portable I bought years ago for the car & now in a room where I listen more than watch.   My son was saying this morning that some new channels have been added recently so I will need to "scan" & program again.  That doesn't take but a mnute or so, I have to scan any time I park the RV in a new location.    Here's the brand & model I got.... and my son said there is an online site where you can post your zip code & it will tell you what is available.  He's supposed to send me the link.   I do have a link to type in zip code & what time receiver (Over The Air)... & it gives channels & TV guide... but not always up to date.

We had rain last night, thunder & lightning, so was late getting to bed (midnight).  I was picking my son & friend up to take to airport at 6:00 am & have a hard time findiing his house in daylight so knew it would be a challenge in the dark.  I programmed my internal alarm for 4:00 am so I'd have time to feed cats, dress for church & half an hour to get to his hour.  I always wake up 10-15 minutes before I warned my body  I MUST get vertical, so I was up about 15 min before 4:00.  As I opened the garage door MamaCallieCat was waiting to come in to eat with her kids.  I whistled for her earlier, she usually comes in to eat with the others & then they all go to the pool to chill out.  The kids ate, stepped outside into light rain so right back in.   I unlocked the door & got Callie her salmon breakfast & let her eat outside since I didn't have time to wait on her.   The rain had already stopped.

I am back from Church. Wasn't sure if I should go or not, but I did and I'm glad.  We had an excellent guest speaker. He had a huge church in Sierra Madre when I lived there, now he is co- pastor at a church in Orange Co. Now it is nearly time to go down for lunch, but I am not hungry, and I do not feel like going out, so I will put on some loafing clothes and just stay home. I have plenty of food on hand, and plan to make out a new monthly order today and have it delivered tomorrow. What a Blessing it is to make my own decisions and have the freedom to do so.  I hope you all have a good day doing what what you like to do.

A good Sunday Afternoon HELLO to all.

SHIRLEY, you must let that picture be shown again so everyfriend can see the movie star!  I thought it was a excellent picture of you!

JANE, sorry for YOU about the itch you can not itch, but sure happy your tooth area no longer hurts.

LARRY, we will be having a informal cocktail/picnic on Friday evening around the pool, weather cooperating.  Then our formal anniversary dinner will be in a private room at the Castle Pines Country Club where Dr. Dave is a member.  We will be in a private room that is surrounded by floor to ceiling glass overlooking the mountains and the valley floor.  The club is high upon a hill and the views are spectacular.  Sunday morning there is a brunch before the family members from out of town will have to leave.  It is going to be a very nice gathering and we are looking forward to it.  Thank you very much for asking.

GLORIA, I hope Shirley will share the picture again...it was a very good one of her.  Thank you for explaining about the Tens machine.  I am not familiar with it at all.

With all the wonderful things I am looking forward to this coming week, I am also going to be doing a lot of praying for two special friends.  My best friend in life, Patti, will be having a knee replacement this week and one of my dear neighbors, Pam, will be having surgery on Friday to have both of her feet amputated.  If you are able to do so, please say a few prayers for both of these dear ladies.  Pam has been in pain and going to doctors for two and a half years and they just can not find what is wrong that her feet and lower legs will not heal.  She needed to see my son, as I feel he could have had a chance to correct this problem as he has been able to for so many others that just could not get the job done.  Very sad that insurance would not allow her to do so.  Mayo Clinic was the next step and they even felt she was beyond help....so with Gods help this amputation will hopefully save her life.

Continued thoughts and prayers for our Joan and Pat.  I do hope they both are doing much better.

Enjoy your evening.

Jenny

Good evening just check in. By afternoon, the humidity went down and also the temp.  the A/C has not been running all day.

I have had company on and off all day.  Also I made potato salad, which I have not made in years. One of my neighbors brought me a chicken carcass so I made chicken soup and enough to freeze.

Hope we hear from Joan, prays to her and your friends Jenny. How sad. to have such surgery.  That room sounds beautiful

I go to the skin doctor to morrow, I have a large growth on my wrist.

Jenny, since my posting here is not consistent, I want to wish you and Bob a very happy 50th anniversary with all of the activities you will be doing.

I feel for your ladies with their surgeries, especially the neighbor who will lose both feet.

Today I watched the British Open and cheered both Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar.  In a way I wanted Matt to win because he has never won a major tournament and Jordan has so many years ahead of him.

I'm glad Pat is out of the hospital and I hope Joan will be home soon.

Good morning everyone..
Loons were calling again last night, wonder if they were tell others of the storm to come and it did around 3 am. We had a nice rain along with thunder  which my dogs didn't care for.

Waiting on VON at the moment and so glad they are coming early, hubby isn't feeling all that well this morning and they will be able to check all his vitals.

Jenny, prayers for both your friends. We have a neighbour that lost her foot due to a blood clot and to see her now you sure wouldn't know it. She can do just about anything now.

I better go get things ready for the VON

Good Morning Everyone.

I would have bet money late yesterday afternoon that we were going to get a storm, came over black and wind picked up and really blew and then....noting.  This morning it is rainy looking, but I have no confidence we will get any.

I suppose all of you heard the news about the 9 people that died in a hot trailer.  They were being smuggled into the country in an 18 wheeler, not unusual.

Coffee is ready, for anyone who wants a cup.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem for quite a while now.  Mickie decided that she had to go out around 4:15 this morning.  So we all trooped to the door only to discover it was pouring out there.  I forced them both to go out and watched to make sure they took care of things.  Then I dried them off and we all snuggled down on the sofa until they decided it was time to eat.

I don't know how long it rained but it was raining at 11 when I went to bed last night and it had stopped by the time the doggies finished breakfast around 7.  Lots of wet out there.

I'm trying to get stuff off the floor in my office so my dynamo can zip through here and clean the floor.  When Kiran moved a storage box under the desk to use it for a foot rest, I discovered that it was pretty dirty behind it.  Tami's instructions concering the office are to clean only what she can get to without moving anything.  Today I moved a lot of stuff.  And most of it will not find it's way back in here....I hope!

Saturday, I called DISH about my poor service an yesterday a nice young man came over and instead of moving my old dish, he put up an upgraded one in an area that bypasses my neighbor's huge pine tree.  He also gave me a new remote.  And my picture is sharper than it's been in ages.  I watched a marathon of DIAGNOSIS MURDER with Dick VanDyke  one of my all time favorite shows.  I couldn't get that channel for months.  And, since I've been paying the fee, none of this is going to cost me a cent!  Am I delighted or what?

Gotta go.  Tami will be here soon!  Since the office is torn up, I don't know where I'll hide out while she's here.  Maybe I'll take the doggies for a walk?

Hi everyone.  We were blessed last night with a very good rain and couple of hours after I set the sprinkler system to water this morning.  It looks like we will be having a bit cooler weather today, partly cloudy and another chance of more rain.

It was so hot yesterday that after Church we decided to just get some carryout for our meal and go home and eat it in the coolness of our home. We got home in time to see the final holes played in the British Open Golf Tourney and to see Jordan Spieth recover from a bad mistake and losing his lead to come back and win.  His prize, besides winning a major championship, was a nice check for $1.8 million.  The second place finisher also got over $1 million in prize money.

I expect to enjoy a very quiet week as nothing on the calendar until Wednesday evening when we will have dinner with Scott and Jennifer and then Thursday a full morning and then a Sunday School social in the early evening.  I may make a quick trip to Costco later this morning for a couple of items.

JaneS, glad the Dish Tech showed up as expected and fixed your reception problem.  We lost our reception several times last evening due to the heavy storms in the area.  We have nothing that will block our satellite dish from the sky except for storms.  Glad your mouth has quit hurting and hope the itch goes away soon.

Shirley, I may have already shared this but probably three weeks ago I was sitting in a booth at coffee with three other men and got too far off the seat and suddenly lost my balance and ended up on the floor.  It was a short fall and I wasn't hurt in any way except I was really embarrassed.  I had such a startled look on my face that we all had a good laugh over it.  That was mighty early for you to have to get up and then drive in the dark.  Your cats probably didn't know what to think at getting fed so early.

June, it sounds like you had an enjoyable day yesterday.

Lloyd, my wife also usually makes enough for two meals at a time and we have a lot of left-over meals.  Many things are even better the second time around, especially things made with tomatoes.

Jenny, I wondered if you wouldn't be having your main celebration at the Country Club where your son is a member.  That sounds like a beautiful setting for a beautiful event.  It sounds like a very enjoyable weekend.  Pat ordered a Tens Unit yesterday after I encouraged her to do so.  What a terrible experience for Pam to have to have both of her feet amputated and hope it will save her life.  I saw our daughter go through three amputations in a three week span and it is a life changing experience.

deAngel, sure glad you got some cooler weather yesterday and hope you got to feeling better.  It does seem a long time since we have had any word on Joan.

Amy, glad the VON is coming to check your husband rather than you having to make another trip to the ER with him.  Does your friend who lost her foot have an prosthetic foot? My daughter had been fitted for and had a prosthetic leg but was never able to walk with it but used it when going out in her wheelchair.

Good Morning Every One from
the cool and rainy, rocky coast of Maine.

All is well here...
Kelly is starting her new job today.   Full time at
LL Beans.        She was working at a little  coffee shop]
up there and  a Woman from Beans came and recruited her.

This will be a good job for her with benefits etc.
Something that a family with two adults and four
children really needs these days.   So healthcare etc will
be affordable for all of them now.

During these changing times "Benefits" are necessary to
keep ones family "solvent" ...

My grand gals are still in Europe,  enjoying
their first experience out in this big bad world,
together, on their own.

All is well here with me ..
Have a good week, everyone!

Good morning everyone, a little rain over night and it cooled off nice.

LLOYD  not everyone is selfish these days but people sure aren't like they were even 25 years ago. You are not selfish the way you help your family and friends.

HAL  your family is sure taking care of you while your wife is across the pond.

AMY  talked to my grandson yesterday.  He will bring his Lab home today. The Vet told him the pacemaker should last 8 years. I have always heard big dogs so not live as long as small ones, his girl is already 8 years old.

LARRY  it was cooler here yesterday and I enjoyed sitting on the porch with a book. My daughter sent me a Tens machine she paid $75 for but it never did work right and stopped working in less than a year. I did check several years ago and a good one was about $200 and more.

SHIRLEY  thanks for those links, I will check them out. No one can be worse than me trying to find things online by going to google.

JANE  hope now your dish will bring in all the channels you want and no more trees in the way.

JENNY  so sad reading about your friend having both feet amputated. Is she diabetic? I know many who are and had a toe or foot amputated. Prayers for both your

AMY  hope VON helped your DM feel better.

HAL  I saw on TV about that truck in San Antonio. So terrible taking advantage of people who want to come here illegally and treat them so bad once they take their money.

JANE  my daughter has a dish, since they are off the grid it is the only way they can get any reception.  It was installed in late October and on Skype it was very blurry. The man who installed it said they would have an update in a few more months. They sent a man out to their home with the update and now their reception is much better. No tall trees and since they are high up on a mountain not much in the way.

Raidioman, I feel you Joy. My sixth Great is now two years old. I have three boys and three girls. I feel very thankful.

Sandy, You sound very content girl, and that makes me happy. I find each day is a gift.

Larry, I did have a very quiet day yesterday, but had some problem with my email...the filling wheel kept whirling around and I couldn't print or send mail, so I finally just shut down. This morning that wheel was still whilrling, so I called my guru son and told him (i got a busy signal). Poked around in different areas, and finally found one that was putting a lot of messages on my mail...I looked, and they were all leads to various types of pornograpy. I found a place to delete and did so, and got out of mail. checked it later and all is well. The nasties have disappeared and I cn use email again. I have Avast for protection, but it didn't work this time.

Amy, I pray your hubby had good help and that nothing is necessary for hospitalization.

Janie..Enjoy you nice clean office. My girl sure keeps my place neat.

Love this cooler temperature!!

Picked up meds in town after VON left..she didn't seem to concerned  with his numbers.so all is well..

Sandy, I would say that lady saw something in Kelly that would be an asset to her  store. Good for Kelly!!!

Gloria, it is amazing what we will do for our animals, one lady told me this morning that she had just spent over $1000.00 on her dog just for tests!!

Larry, yes she does have a prosthetic foot and now no turning back for her!!

Merry Monday, Everyfriend,

Congratulations,  Jenny and Bob!  Your 50th anniversary celebration events sound fabulous!!

Congratulations, Don on the 6th Great Grand.
I know your listeners will miss your broadcasts.   There must be lots of wonderful memories.  Might there be a memoir (written or recorded) in the future?

Still no rain for the OKC metro area - although other parts of the state are getting more than they need.   I've about given up on the two large planters - can't keep them watered.

Haven't seen anyone but Daddy Rabbit for the last few days.
Two hummers were squabbling over that feeder this morning.
I keep a large flower pot saucer filled with water on the ground by the bird feeders.  I'm noticing quite a few are "taking a dip" as well as getting a drink in this hot weather.  One bird soaked its feathers so long that it could barely fly up to the fence - and then spent a very long time fluffing to dry out.

That's it from this corner.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Amy, I am happy there nothing alarming from the Nurse <?> Are they nurses that come out ? I don't think we have that service in the states. I know I have never had it available, but never needed it either, thanks be to God.

I am stuck at home waiting for my grocery delivery. I did get out earlier for  a leg stretcher, and fresh air. But I am not a patient wait-er. I think I will go tuck myself in the recliner and read...and probably nap.

JUNE, we DO have that nursing service in the states.  There is a service that sends a nurse to my sister's home to check up on my BIL (The one I call my brother).  And my friend, Mavis who is a retired nurse also does that service for Hospice in this area.  She has also done it for a nursing service not associated with hospice.  You are lucky enough not to have needed it but it's there for those who do.

My daughter works for the Area Agency on Aging and they keep a list of nurses who are available for short and long term visiting for those who need it.  If you can afford it, you pay, if you can't, it's free.  I bet it's in place in most places.  I know people in other places who have used this service.

Also, it's not new.  When my aunt retired as director of nursers at a major hospital in New York State, she volunteered her services as a visiting nurse and that was back in the mid 60s

June and Jane....... I do know that a visiting nurse service is available here in Maryland also.   And,  there are services that provide a physical therapist for a certain number of weeks until the patient is able to get to an outpatient center.

There is a lady who lives where I live and she has been under a doctor's care for well over 5 years for a severe head injury.  There are nurses who have been coming 2 or 3 times a week all that time to take care of a very long-term head wound.  She also has had physical therapist several times after she has had surgery.  And,  to my knowledge,  Medicare pays for most of all this care. When the Medicare stops, she is re-evaluated for it to start all over again.  She is a strong lady to have been going through this kind of trauma for as long as she has.  They just can't seem to get rid of the infections that keep occurring. She was even treated with "leeches" at Johns Hopkins hospital, where her doctors are.  She goes to Hopkins, which is supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the world.  Me personally, I don't want any parts of Johns Hopkins.  Just my own personal opinion.  I know they do wonderful work,  but, if it was me,  I would have looked for a different doctor by this time.

Just adding my little 2 cents, for what it is worth.  LOL

Jane, does this service depend on what type of Insurance one has. I have United Care, and so far they have taken care of all my needs. I am still "independent" to a degree, and we do have a lady there that worked for Hospice and now she is here daily under a program called Palliative Care. However my girl at our 24 hour clinic tells me I am not ready for that type of care. In spite of my P.A.D. I manage well. I do work on my legs every day myself…for half an hour on waking I massage the legs and feet and arms…all considered peripherals…and then do exercise of same. I do think I have helped the circulation.

Joy, my best doctors and druggists and caregivers are my two sons. They have everything under control. When the time comes when it is needed Gary plans to have Hospice do what is essential. He will not allow suffering. That is very reassuring to me.

I had to call for Grace, an employee here, to come up and help get rid of the nonsense that was occurring on my iMac. Filth that took over so I could not send or receive mail…it just kept doing it's own thing of spreading trash, which I would never open, but I do want my email available to me. She is a wonder !!! She put on  a separate program that will automatically send any bad stuff to that folder. Thanks be to God.

Good evening very cool to day, and been raining lightly.

Callie, I have a bird bath out side my sliding glass door, and when I have breakfast or reading the paper I watch the birds. Yesterday I could not believe what I was seeing a blue jay, was splashing away when a black bird came along, set on the over head tree branch watching the blue jay finished went up to the same branch and watched the black bird splash, the took turns twice.

June glad you were able to get your PC cleaned up.

I had a visiting nurse for a few weeks after I came home from the hospital this year also had PT a few times.

Don we will all miss your programs

So much going on in here, my computer has been telling me "No internet connection" every time I try to post (after typing a foot long post).... so frustrating.  E-mail has been worse for locking up just as I'm ready to send a message & won't even move my message to the draft folder. I am thinking mean thoughts about this old clunker.... and then I think, "maybe it's the darn internet & not my computer".

Jenny, Happy 50th Anniversary, all the best to you & Bob.  Counting on you to bring us photos, hopefully someone can post for you, my computer/internet is giving me such grief that little Toshiba laptop may be floating down river soon.  I haven't found any I want but "one of these days".  I would still love for everyone to see the street scenes of Vail....   Sorry about your friends, they will be included in my prayers "for all my Senior Friends & their families".

Don, congratulations on the 6th great, my 7th is due early September.  Always a relief when they get here & are okay.  Sad to quit the shows, but it will be much easier to make those trips across the water any time you can, right?

We are all concerned about this baby & mother, she had Bell's Palsy during her first pregnancy with some paralysis in her face remaining.....  the other complication is she has Crohn's and her doctor insists she stay on the Remicade medication during & after (while nursing).... and it terrifies me what can happen to those babies when they get older.  I know it is in God's hands, but also think He wants us to make reasonable choices, I don't like her doctor's choices.  So far no sign of problems but her mother (my daughter) is heading her way tomorrow to help fix up the baby's room & do what she can to relieve her fears.  She will return home & fly back to take care of the 2 year old while the new mother is in the hospital.  These young parents have no idea how good life is with all the time off for both mothers & fathers and they seem to expect both sets of parents to come help for at least a week or two each.  Changing times.

My son's MIL has waited all summer for a room in Assisted Living, special place that does have the Memory Care units as her Alzheimer's advances, she moves in Friday.  When my DIL went to FL to handle selling the house, car & everything, she had to wait unil school was out (she is a teacher).... she starts back to school on Monday so didn't get a break at all.  Her mother has gone from moving into Independent Living to Assisted & found out this week that if she can't identify each of her medications, know what they are for & the side effects, they will not allow her to medicate on her own, even though my DIL puts the pills in the containers for 3 times a day, etc.  The facility will have to administer at a cost of $500 per month MORE than the Assisted Living cost.  When she goes into Memory Care the monthly cost doubles.  Pretty scary.  I don't know what her financial situation is, but some of these "for profit" places are just awful greedy!

Callie, the radio announcer/station I listen to when I wake up was saying we should put out our humming bird feeders & I still don't have mine out.  We had such fun watching them in CO, my youngest son bought 2 feeders while we were out there, one to hang in the tree & one with a suction cup to attach to the bedroom window so the cats could watch.  They hardly glanced at them when they ate & chased!  We are dry here, I'm watering the little trees we transplanted last year & happy the well & sprinklers in front are working.  Still having to hand water the berm in the back, sprinkler head by the berm is a mess because of a tree root.  I noticed the rabbits around here are hiding or something, was seeing them all day long & have not seen any at all today or yesterday.

Larry, glad you weren't hurt when you slid off your seat.  Don't mention it to your doctor, they take those innocent moments & get all excited.  When I found myself laying on the floor in the kitchen I laughed at myself because my first thought was, "I don't remember getting down here".  Nothing hurt, I had been sitting on a tall bar stool near the stove & little TV on the counter, my fav spot since living alone.  Guess I just melted down to the floor & did not hit my head or fall hard, nary a single ache or pain.  Yet when I went to the clinic a couple days later I had to do battle with the nurse & sign release papers that THEY weren't responsible for not doing an X-ray of my head!  I went in to make sure I didn't have pneumonia & had to X-ray for that.  I mentioned "the doctors we had over the years could tell by just listening".  Don't think they liked that, either.  I was just trying to explain why I thought I passed out, was taking the Z-pac antibiotic & been to the doctor a few days before & day after had a major cold/coughing bug that was putting lots of people in the hospital.  My Dr couldn't work me in again & suggested I go to a clinic.  Won't do that again!  Take care.

Hal, been hearing a lot about that truck load of people, makes one wonder how they got across the border with that truck.  Hope "they" close that hole.  Maybe the sale of the truck will help pay for some of the hospital & funeral bills, you think?  Don't know how anyone can believe we should open our borders when we have people that worked & paid taxes their whole lives, and still have trouble paying for housing & medical care when they get old.  Not a subject I want to think about before going to bed.... ruffles my feathers.

Amy, didn't forget about you & your husband.... glad the check up was okay.  Hope you can take care of yourself, get some rest.  Love hearing about your shopping bargains.... my husband used to say that "my eyes glowed when I saw a sale sign."  My favorite store that sells name brand clothing at 75% of original factory prices had a 50%-60% off on everything today (after their sale prices).  I came home with a few bargains.

Bedtime, sweet dreams to all & God Bless!   Shirley

Monday night HELLO to all.

Good night, LLOYD. Sleep well.

GLORIA de, I, too, love to watch the birds out the back of the house when I am sitting in my recliner.  The birds seem to love to parade back and forth just to annoy my kitty!

JUNE, it is so annoying when stuff comes on your screen that you just do not want to see.  Glad Grace was able to help you with the problem.

Thank you, CALLIE, for the nice anniversary wishes.

AMY, happy VON did not see any problems with your hubby today.

Congratulations, DON, on the birth of your 6th great-grandchild. Is this bundle of joy a boy or a girl?

JANE, I hope Tami has your office and the rest of your home all shiny and clean for you.

Thank you all for,the good thoughts and prayers for my two friends.  Patti's surgery is tomorrow in Steamboat Springs Colorado.  Sure wish I could be there with her.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Don, congratulations on the great grandchild .

Gloria, I hope your grandsons dog lives another 8 years. Some bigger dogs have lived longer than the expected life span, let's hope your grandson's dog is one of them.

Shirley, I had to laugh at your eyes glowing, you should see mine when I hit a fabric sale!!! Shirley prayers for your grand daughter . Can your sons mil get her meds in blister packs? That is what we have been doing here, with hubby taking some many it sure saves a lot of confusion.

Larry, glad your ok ,makes one feel so foolish when that happens. Thankfully no bones were broken.

Hal, watched that on the news, so sad to hear .

Jane, good morning to you!!

Better get a move on..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up a while but had some things to do before I could come here.

JENNY...before I forget, my congratulations to you and Bob on your fiftieth!  It sounds like a memorable celebration weekend.  I wish you many more anniversaries together.

AMY, I don't know how you knew I was here but thanks for the welcome.  I hope all's well with you hubby and that he chooses to do what's best for him and his health

My "dynamo" didn't come yesterday.  She texted to ask if she could change the day.  She had an opportunity to do some work for someone that NEEDED it done on Monday.  I told her what days I'd be here and she's coming on Thursday.  I'm flexible.  I took some of the time she'd have been here to clean out the fridge and wash the interior.  It was crying for help!

Last night we had another real gullywasher!  It left puddles in my yard, my neighbor's yard and the space between.  And there was a warning on my phone of flash flooding in the area.  I can guess where but I wasn't about to go check it out.  We also had the accompanying thunder and lighting and the two terrified doggies.  It was pretty bad!

I'll be off to Wally World this morning.  Wish me smiles!

I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day.  Fill it however you wish!

Good morning everyone, another cool 59° and some drizzle. I like the cool but not the dampness. We have had our share of rain so far this year. Wish some would fall where it is most needed.

DON  after all these years you will be missed on Sunday afternoons. Congratulations on your sixth great grandchild. I have 3 great grandsons. Youngest turned 2 yesterday.

AMY  hate to think how much my grandson spent on his Lab.

JUNE  we have nursing service here. That is how I get a CNA here 3 times a week. About every 6 weeks they send a NP here to check on me.

GLORIA de  I miss seeing a variety of birds here. If my apartment was on the other side of the building I would see them. it is wooded back there. My apartment overlooks the parking lot and that is not a pretty view.

SHIRLEY  I know my computer problems are this HP computer. Wish the first time it went back to HP I had told them to refund my money. I think most of us feel the same about the illegals coming into the USA and then getting the benefits that we worked years to pay for.

JANE  we did not get any thunder and rain overnight but it is drizzly now and cool. A day for jeans and long sleeved top.

Hi everyone. We are seeing a little sun this morning but the forecast is for cloudy weather most of the day.  We had another over one inch rain yesterday afternoon with lots of lightning and Thunder.  So this makes over 2 inches of rain in two days.  During the first storm a lightning strike hit at our local airport and knocked out the runway lights.  There were a couple of early morning flights that had to be cancelled that would have taken off before daylight.  I didn't get to Costco yesterday as I had planned as was too weary.  However, I will be going over there this morning.  I have already done the morning chores of emptying the dishwasher and getting a couple of things ready, such as the coffee and getting the strawberries out of the freezer that Pat will have with her breakfast.  That will likely be pretty much it for today.

The moving van just arrived next door so my new neighbors will be moving in today.  So it will be a busy day in the neighborhood.

Sandy, that sounds like a great job that Kelly has taken.  Benefits are worth a lot these days.

Gloria, I would have to think long and hard before I would have a pacemaker put into a pet.  I know we love our pets dearly but there are so many cats and dogs needing a good home.  I am sure many of you would totally disagree with me on this so not trying to start a discussion on the issue.  If a person wants to do this that is fine. Pat did order a Tens Unit and it is suppose to arrive today.  I sure hope it works well and lasts longer than a year.

Don, I know you will be missed on the radio on Sunday afternoon but you certainly deserve to retire after 34 years of dedicated service and you can still enjoy your vast music library.

June, it is frustrating when our spam filter lets unwanted emails take over.  Glad you got the problem resolved.

Amy, glad the nurse was happy with your husbands readings.  I do hope he is feeling better today.

Callie, I think I mentioned giving my neighbor my two big planters.  Those turned out to be very expensive tomatoes and peppers I grew last year but it was fun watching them.  A year has made quite a difference in how I feel and just not up to tending them this year.  You can't blame those birds for cooling off in the water bowl.

Shirley, the fact that your computer won't allow you to move what you have written to the draft folder makes me think it is likely a computer problem.  It is also possible the network card is failing in the computer which would explain losing the signal.  Are you able to stay on your iPad (I think I remember you have a tablet)?  If so then it is likely that Modem and Router are working OK.

I have read all of the posting but not going to respond to everyone today as need to leave for the shopping excursion in about 5 minutes.

My day started off with a laugh.  I had a 9:15 am haircut appointment.  Usually Tom is available to take me, but he is up north until this evening, so Annie volunteered to take me.  She drives a big pickup truck.  I could not get into the cab because it was too high.  She tried to boost me enough to get into the truck with no luck.  I have a child's chair (plastic) in the garage so had Annie get that so I could step on the chair to get into the truck.  That's what I get for being old and short.

Kendrick provided a smile too - he got on my bed before I got out of bed the second time this morning and he kept pawing at me, something he doesn't do.  I realized he was pawing at the blanket and he wanted to get under the blanket.  I lifted the blanket and he got under it and on top of the top sheet and went to sleep.  I think he was there for nearly an hour.

Both of those incidents put me in a good mood for the day.

Mary Ann:  A fresh haircut always feels so good.  Glad you could make it into the truck.

I need to do something - 3 men are coming over to play cribbage with Don tonight - it is my night out for the quilt group.  My current project is partly on the floor downstairs - it is just driving me crazy right now and I have to step away - somehow gremlins got into it and I cannot figure out the pattern.

Larry:  We could use some of your rain.  Rest well after your trip to the big box store.

Listening to the city council's news - they have no common sense in the entire group.  They are planning a 3 day music festival - at a city golf course that has no facility for toilets and water and no parking for the number of people expected.  So glad we are not in that neighborhood.  Too many of the parks have been closed for special projects - it is a building frenzy right now and people are livid.

Otherwise, we may have a bit of rain today and that would be welcome.

Mary Ann, I'm laughing at how clever Kendrick is to let you know just what he wants you to do, without speaking a word. And some call them "dumb" animals. Little do they know.

Larry, it not just the filth of the one message I viewed, but my whole email system was stuck with the filling of this one program. There is a little wheel that turns when something is using the gmail, so I was unable to either send or receive good messages. I am so thankful that is is taken care of now.

Gloria, since we have the clinic downstairs I would really have no need for this service that you and others receive. We have an RN in charge and many NA's on duty for 2 hours a day. They bill my Insurance directly, so I don't have to do a thing. For months I would go down daily to have bandages changed on my leg, now I just see them once a month when my doctor comes here.

Janie, oh how I wish your gully washer would move out here to So. Ca. I know you are going to get and receive many smiles today. God is with you.

Amy, I am glad you hubby is able to make  decisions for his medical care. He alone knows it he is gaining anything from the physical therapy.

Jenny, as I told Larry, it was robbing me completely of my use of email. I could not send nor receive as it was tied up with this program. Looking back, I didn't really read any trash, but I think it was titles of places I could go to to view it. Like the clickables we use for other stuff. Just the titles indicated it was filth.

Time to get dressed and out for a walk. We have another lovely cloudy day..no rain but a fresh coolness. I am thankful.

June, I'm glad I could read Kendrick's mind to know what he wanted.  He has burrowed under the quilt and/or blanket before, usually when I've been out of the room, but he wanted to be near me.  As long as I was in bed, he just put himself beside me - he was on the top sheet and I was under it.  When I got up, he stayed there and I think it was almost an hour before he came out.  He constantly checks to see that I am around.  I think now I'll see about getting something to eat for lunch, then we'll go out on the deck.

Carol, if anyone saw me try to get into that truck, they must have had a good laugh.  I know the truck Annie drove prior to this one was bad enough but this one was impossible.  Tom had warned me that I would not be able to get in the truck and he was right.  I even have trouble getting in Dot's car which is a mini-SUV and is classified as as station wagon.  But I can get in her car, it's just not a case of sitting on the seat and putting my feet in.  Now people know why I preferred a coupe for my driving.  The Duster, Neon and Chevy Cavalier were all made for ME!

Hi Everyfriend!  I'm home, had lunch, gave the doggies a snack, chased them outside for a bit then checked in here.  And there you all are just visiting and enjoying your day.

MARY ANN, I giggled at your story about trying to get in Annie's truck, too.  Lucky you had the chair handy.  I remember back on the farm where my dad grew up, there was a very large stump near the barn.  They told me it was a mounting block.  And since I'm older, I'm guessing it was put there for my grandmother.  She was all of 4 ft. 10 and 3/4 inches and she did ride horses.    Maybe you'll need to get a "mounting block" to place near your driveway for when Annie picks you up.

Radioman, I think I forgot to say your music and your patter will be missed.  I didn't remember to listen every Sunday but when I did, I thoroughly enjoyed your show.

Now, I'm going to go see if a few zzzzs are still hanging out on the sofa.  If they are, I'm claiming them.  I'm really tired.  And, by the way...there were LOTS of smiles through my line today.

Jane, fortunately Annie will not be picking me up often, if at all.  Tom usually is here and he is my transportation.  But at least I have that little chair to help if I need it.  The chair and one other were purchased when Tom's children were little and they now are waiting for Tom's grandchildren to be able to use them.

I'm glad I gave people a laugh with my story of getting into the truck.  Jane, your grandmother was a bit taller than I am; the last time I was measured I was 4'9 1/2".

Well I went to my dental apmt this morning and it well. I barely felt the shots and he was fast with them.  My son in law couldn't believe how little time I was in there.  Anyhow, no pain yet, told to take painkillers before numbness wore off.

Fixing to check my couch for zzzs.

HAL, I was told to take painkillers before the numbness wore off, too.  I didn't until I really felt the pain.  My suggestion to you is....DO IT BEFORE.  We really don't need pain at this point in our lives.

Janie, I took them like they said.  I took one and three hours later took a different one, And they said alternate them every three hours.  One is ibuprofen and can't remember the name of the other, but so far it has stopped the pain.

Now to figure out something to eat.  So far all I have had is yogurt.  May just have some chicken broth.

June suggested cottage cheese to me and it worked fine.  You don't really have to chew it and it's loaded with protein.  Also, some noodles in your chicken broth will slip down easy, too.  They did for me.  If you like applesauce, that'works, too.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for some time.  Got a few things done but I'm still not dressed so I guess I better go get that little chore accomplished.

The weather turned chilly last evening and stayed cool overnight.  I grabbed an extra blanket sometime during the night.  It actually was down in the 50s.  Right now it's 64º but the high is only supposed to be 78.  I can live with that but it's very unusual for late July in central PA.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Had decent night, just up taking Ned's and taking care of other things.  No pain, than you Lord.

Have some coffee on, will pour a cup and let it cool and sip it.  I have to start my salt water rinses today.  And "gently".brush my teeth.
Nothing. Spectacular planned, just laying around.

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning everyone, the sun is shining and will be into the 70's again. Woke during the night and was cold, got up and got a blanket and warmed up and back to sleep. Of course I had the window open and the fan on. I just heard in places it was down in the upper 40's.

LARRY  I am glad my grandson could afford the cost of that pacemaker for his dog but even my son was telling me yesterday he thought it was too much. There is no guarantee the pacemaker will work even. Hope the Tens machine Pat ordered is better than the one my daughter bought for me.

MARY ANN  had to chuckle with you needing that chair to get into the truck. Don't think I could step high enough to get onto that chair.

JUNE  if I could afford to live in a place like you do I would be content.

HAL  glad the tooth was out fast.

JANE  like you I had to get up and get a blanket during the night.

Wish we would hear something about JOAN. I know we all miss her.

Hi everyone. The morning started out sunny but now we have an overcast sky with more cloudy weather predicted for today and the high up around 90 degrees.

Nothing on the schedule for me today so expect to stay home all day.  Pat may go to her gifts group in a little while but she hasn't said whether she is feeling up to going or not.  I did get to Costco yesterday morning and made fast work of it as was able to get an electric cart.  However, by the time I got home and unloaded the car I was really done in and rested most of the rest of the day.  This evening Scott and Jennifer should be out for dinner and to spend a few hours with us.

Carol, sorry to see that you are having problems with your quilt pattern.  Have you thought about asking one of your quilting friends to lend a hand?  I didn't have much choice after my trip to Costco other than to rest as could hardly drag myself through the house.  The music festival sounds like it could well be a total disaster as sure there will be a lot of pot smokers in attendance.  Glad your neighborhood won't be disturbed with it.  That should be a fun mess to clean up.

June, I have experienced something clogging up my email.  Fortunately it has been a long time since that has happened.  Gmail does a good job of filtering out unwanted email.  Glad you are able to get outside and have nice walks.

Jane, hope you were able to get some good zzzz's yesterday. I am sure the smiles in your line at work makes the day go more quickly and enjoyably.

Hal, glad your dental appointment wasn't unpleasant and went quickly and that you got through the night without pain.   So your coach has ZZZ's as well.

Lloyd, I hope you ended up getting a good night's sleep.

Amy, I haven't heard of a Chapter's book store for ages.  I think mainly Barnes and Noble are here in the US, at least where I have lived.  Hope your husband was able to get his hearing aids fixed.

Gloria, that is pretty cool for July.  It wasn't my son that had the pacemaker for his dog although he and his wife spent large dollars caring for the three or four dogs they had several years ago.  They were mainly Pom's and required a lot of attention.  They did give one of them insulin shots for a couple of years.  I am not sure the Tens Unit Pat got yesterday will even work.  We tried to get it working yesterday afternoon without success.  I have a call in for them to see if we are doing something wrong.  If not, we will send it back.

Gloria, the chair I used was a kid's plastic chair and I think you might be able to manage that.  I tried a few years ago to step up on a regular chair and my knees would not let me up.  I was going to try to get in the truck on my hands and knees but I know that wouldn't work either.  Annie knows she should not bring that truck with her when/if she has to take me somewhere.  This was a first.

I did as you did, pulled my blanket up about 5 am and went back to sleep.  The cat came in to join me about that time and he stayed for a while.

She only had 30 minutes till she had to meet up with Gary, but she wanted to share a bunch of Gorgeous pictures she took with her iphone and put on her computer. WOW ! I am home from my Gary's Bible Study, and so impressed with just listening, I am all worn out. What a Preacher he has become. If I were any more pleased and proud, I think God will tell me I am sinning. I'll ask Gary what God would say about my Pride. Or maybe I'll ask Dori, she loves him as much as I do.

Whatever....I just know I am so tired out, I want to stay home and sleep. Whatever will be, will be.

Hal, I always use a fork and poke holes in my potato before microwaving. That keeps it from exploding....or did you already know that ?

girls we have a little step stool 2 step's tall it is 14" wide, front to back 16" 11"tall 4" from first step to top. with it Nancy can easily step up into our 4 wheel drive truck. I now have the truck setting in the shop tho to build running boards on it so we won't have to pack the stool around.I am getting old and lazy. if you have some one close to build one. I recommend oak.  material cost
should be around $10. or so. a good friend should do it reasonable for labor or just as a friend. some of you girls could do it your self if you have the tools. some Sheetrock screws wood glue .home deepow or Loews will most likely saw your boards for you cheep or no charge.

As the morning wore on I seemed to grow more and more tired. felt some shortness of breath and dizziness. So I rested. ate a light lunch, went down for my one o'clock appt. with Dr. Still felt really lousy. I have gained some weight...up to 114, but have shrunk in height..from 5'7'' to 5'5". No wonder my waistline has grown.

My blood pressure was wild..they took it four times, with rest periods between. Finally it went down to an acceptable measure. Dr. listened to chest, all was well. then she went to work on my feet...shortened my toenails and pared down a callous, and told me to get arch supports to put in my shoes...to avoid the callous. finally dragged myself home. read and napped. I'll stay home for supper.

My Gary has ordered me a new cell phone. A jitterbug. Less monthly payments by half, and very simple to use. He will help me  learn it and he will enter my phone numbers from the other phone. I am so blessed with my good kids. God is SO GOOD !

I'm home from work, fed the doggies, had a snack, got my jammies on and now I'm resting.  A nice young fella asked me if I could work for him on Saturday but since he works a full shift, I told him if he could find someone else to work half his shift, I'd work the other half.  They let us do that.  He said he'd see what he could work out.  He came back later and said he had someone who would take his whole shift but she had a 4:30 to 9.  Would I be willing to take that for her.  I said yes.  So I'll be working on Saturday.

I think I'll try to go to bed early tonight.  I'm really tired and I wan't to be ready for the "dynamo" when she comes tomorrow.

I hope you all had a lovely day.  Sleep peacefully and wake happy tomorrow.  Good night Everyfriend!

Lloyd, after my experience in my niece's truck, it would have to be a dire emergency for me to ride in that truck.  But we do have the child's chair to use as a stepstool if necessary.  It isn't worth anyone's efforts to build a step for me that might never be used.

Checking in & figured this other "shortie" better admit I got caught on camera with feet dangling as I turn around to slide out of my husband's pick up.  It was 4x4, off road/sport so extra tall.  It had the fancy chrome pipe looking running board that my feet missed (happened often) so I would just slide down till my feet touched the ground.  He got rid of it with 9,000 miles on it because he found it was hard for him to get in & out as well.  Sadly, he'd always wanted a pickup but waited too late to get it.  We had an old clunker when we built a house back in the '60s, but I got stuck with it since I did a lot of "picking up" building supplies.  Wild stories about that pick up~   :bonk: :dizzy:

A day full of phone calls, old friends.  I have so many projects needing to get done I decided to take a nap & forget the words "NEED TO DO".  Busy day tomorrow, yard guys come so I need to weed whip around some little trees & flowers so they don't mow 'em down.  When I do that I weed whip around the sprinkler heads, mowers don't cut low enough to let the heads come up & spray over the grass.  We had a nice rain today but so hot & humid it was hard to breathe.  Those cool temps y'all talk about sound like Heaven!

Sweet dreams to all & God Bless.  I'll turn out the lights.  :sleepy: Shirley

Amy Good to see you also.  I mostly enjoy the wildlife also, except the coons are too thick and too much distraction. they tore the plastic screens out of a camper shell and got all my baby chickens this past year. and recently got up in my raised beds and tore the plants up. i know was coons they left there tell tail foot prints in the moist soil. I may set a live trap out there and catch them and put them in the boiling kettle. they are good after boiling off the bone strip the lean meat out and put in the oven with KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce on it. we also have cottontail rabbets, bob cats, cougars skunks ( even they are OK UN less some one hits one close to you with a car and your window is down. square's and all sorts of water foul's , even on rare occasion seen a black bare. that is enough history for today, Have a great one.

Good morning Everyfriend!  My dynamo will be here this morning (switched from Monday this week)  So I'll be nice and clean for the weekend.

LLOYD, I thought I told you to send you thunderstorms WEST.  We don't need any more rain right now and the dogs are terrified of thunder.  Oh Well!  I guess you forgot.

I'm off to get dressed and move the stuff off my office floor again.  I want as much of it cleaned as she can get too.  With eating and dogs in here it really takes a beating.

I hope you all have a lovely, peaceful day.  Fill it with whatever you wish.

JeanneP, did you make it to the movies and out for pizza yesterday as you hoped to do?  Good for you in telling your daughter you just weren't up to a visit.  I think my great aunt Iva must have had OCD as her house was perfect and looked like it came right out of a magazine.  I was never comfortable in her house the few times we visited.  She was a loving kind lady and a very hard worker but it was what it was.

June, glad you got to see the beautiful pictures of where your grandson and family now reside.  Nice of Dori to stop by even for a very short visit.  I wouldn't spend a moment worrying about being proud of your family and I am sure they are proud of you and your determination. Glad you were able to see your doctor yesterday and that your blood pressure finally settled down. I bet you well enjoy the new Jitterbug phone as it has nice big buttons and they are easy to see.

JaneS, nice of you to help out the young man by your work flexibility.  I hope you can enjoy "dynamo" today.

Sandy, was that the voice of experience with your remark to Hal about the baked potato?  :)

Hal, like you I want my baked potato to be nice and soft.  I will occasionally order one with a steak and salad when we are eating out.  Did you every have potatoes baked in salt?

Shirley, too bad your husband didn't have the truck he wanted when he was younger and could enjoy it.  Glad you took a nap rather than push yourself to do the projects.  They will still be waiting when you are up to doing them.

Amy, I hope you got the weeds in your garden tended too and also got your grass cut.

Lloyd, I hope you all got a nice rain last night and see you have a sufficient pleanty (as a friend of mine used to say).  Since I live East of you perhaps it is headed our way.  We have had severe storm warning every afternoon for the last several days.  Raccoons can sure be destructive creatures.

Good morning everyone, overcast this morning with rain in the forecast for the afternoon. Figures, I have an appointment so will have to dress for rain. Nice? NOT!

LARRY  I think Barnes and Noble is the only bookstore left in this area. There used to be several but with the advent of the tablets so many do not buy books any more. I still like the feel of a book in my hands when I read. I am glad my grandson could afford the pacemaker for his dog but I would have had to think about doing that thousands of dollars procedure. The Tens my daughter sent me cost $75 and really did not last. Soe I looked at were a few hundred dollars.

MARY ANN  I cannot even use the foot high step stool I have.

JUNE  wonderful Dori surprised you and then showed you great pictures. This is one of those gray mornings I would love to sleep the morning away.

JANE  great that you can help each other at work filling in a shift for others. My DIL could do that at the hospital where she worked.

SHIRLEY  cheer up, cold weather will be here in ? months.

AMY  stop working so hard.

LLOYD  we have had too much rain this summer.

Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance? - Edgar Bergen

The trouble with unemployment is that the minute you wake up in the morning you’re on the job. - Slappy White

Love the Work sayings, Gloria, copied, will save & pass on.  Was 80 degrees when I woke up but cloudy so was hugging that thought when the sun popped out & felt like 100 that fast.  I was grunching to myself when I realized I was hearing a strange noise on the roof & from the oven vent (that is like a megaphone), checked the window & sure enough, bright sun & raining!!!  News man said there was a crazy little cloud moving over Wichita & pouring buckets... if you happened to be right under it!

Lloyd, I came up with a fix for those raccoons.... at the Dollar Tree they have little boxes of moth balls... and I threw some into the berm & around the yard where they were digging.  No more raccoons or skunks, they don't like the smell of my yard!  Have not seen any this year or last, but I bought some more mothballs just in case.  I heard Kansas City is flooding with at least 4" of rain.

Larry, when Cas went to buy a pick up he had pin-pointed on the computer the one he was going to get.  All the years we were married he had a habit of buying anything that was less expensive than what he really wanted but ended up not being happy & would trade or keep buying until he got the right thing.  The pick up was a "plain Jane".... but they had one on the show room floor that was a beauty, every option to impress a man.  When I learned it was only $4,000 more than the one he was about to buy, I told him I'd pay half that extra if he'd get the dolled up one.  That was when I was doing art shows & mad money saved up.  We drove that new baby home & he really loved it for a while, until............  2 vehicles in the driveway & 2 in the garage.... too many for 2 people.

Jane, I'd love to find someone like your dynamo.... have not heard of ANY reasonable prices for help here & they don't do any of the hard cleaning.  Besides, have to put away everything or they don't work at all.  If I could get ready for cleaners I wouldn't need them.  Just like these yard guys keep me hopping to make sure everything is ready for them to breeze through & I sit & wait all day because they don't keep a schedule. I can't leave gates unlocked without watching that no kids or dogs get into the pool. I can't take the sun so even the riding John Deere sitting in the shed doesn't tempt me to do my own.  I will keep on moaning about cleaning house and letting the yard guys bully me so I can pay them to do what they do.  I'd better get out & trim before it gets any hotter.

Amy, you are a much better person that I am.... I do hate yard work even when it isn't hot.  Love to plant trees & watch them grow, but weeds take over my flowers & have ruined the beautiful grass Cas had.  A ground ivy gave him fits, had it sprayed but didn't do a bit of good... and I just let it get mowed & don't fight.  It is green & thick.   :crazy2:

Hope every day for good news about Joan.  That old saying, "no news is good news" doesn't work for me.... I still think that if there is any GOOD news someone will be in the cheer us up.  Prayers, Joan, and just a few words to let us know you are getting better, no need to come back to work.  We are hanging in, missing you but holding us together.   Shirley

This has been a weird day. Dr. thinks my salt level is down again, so I gave up two tubes of blood early this morning. I did get some stuff cleaned out and rearranged in some drawers and cupboards. When I first moved in (one year and five months ago) I just shoved stuff in where ever I could find an empty spot, so it felt good to get that rearranged properly. Still more to do though. And I managed to pound a nail in the wall and hang a thermometer that Gary gave me yesterday. I get the temps for our city on my computer, but I wanted the reading for inside my apt.

Ended up tired out so did a lot of book reading and napping. Went down for lunch and visiting, later went for a couple walks, and exercise program at mid afternoon. Now home for the rest of the day.

I had two dynamos today.  My gal took on a lot of extra so she's taking her daughter with her to help and she's just as dynamic as Mom.  They finished in a little over half the time but I paid them for the two hours.  I think that's only fair.  Her daughter is somewhere in her 20s.  She a good friend om my granddaughter's cousin on her father's side.  That's how I came to get her in the first place.

My eye appt.  went well. The pressures are down even lower than they've been and she was pleased with the testing results.  So I'm good for another 4 months.

And now, I'm off to Dreamland.  Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

(Sure wish we'd hear some news of Joan)

Patti's surgery went well and she was sent home this afternoon.  She had a 3 1/2 hour drive home after they let her out.  I felt so badly for her.  She has arrived and managed to get herself to bed.  I sure wish I were close enough to help her out.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayer.

I was up earlier and temp fix on the dry mouth. it already 71º at 4:30 AM and saying it is going to 82º was cloudy most all day after the rain yesterday. Shirley is that your picture saying heck with dye? you have a true heart so no matter the cooler of the hair.  I will try back later when folks wake up. hope it is cool today so I can work in the shop ( catch up ).

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm always up sometime between 5:30 and 6 a.m. but sometimes circumstances demand attention and I don't get to come here until later.  Annie has had her pill that she needs to take on an empty stomach and now we are waiting our hour until they can have breakfast.  When the kitchen timer goes off, they both know what it means.

JENNY, I'm glad your friend's surgery was successful and I know what you mean about wishing you were near enough to help her through the recovery period.  I feel that way about my sister and brother every day.  Their daughter lives nearby but she's a school teacher and often not available when they need her.

I'll be off to Wally World later this morning.  Wish me smiles.  They sure make the day go better!

I wish all of you smiles in your day.  Fill it as you wish it to be.  Do what pleases you most.

Good morning everyone.

We are going to pick up our winter supply of kindling this morning. He makes cedar shakes/shingles and any duds go for kindling. On our way up we will stop off at our friends and drop off two big bags of chicken breasts that I pick up for her in the city.

Shirley, I don't mind cutting grass and I am spoiled at that, I use a riding lawnmower for the most part.

Jenny, glad to hear Patties surgery went well......now to go on the road to recovery.

Gloria, loved the "Work" passing it on to others to have a chuckle .

Joan, have a wonderful day at work and I hope everyone that comes through your till is smiling...

Take care everyone

Enjoy your day.

Amy I am with you I do not Mind cutting grass also, good thing counting the shop and house yard I have on the top side three acres to mow. I have a hustler zero turn 66 inch cut mower. If the yard were smoother could mow it at fifteen miles per hour. as is at around 6-7 mph. Nancy will not even try to mow with it. she said if i would get her a ridding mower with a steering wheel she would mow. I see no point in that I do not mined mowing.  with her patched up leg she has no business out in the yard or garden. she got plate in her left leg from her ankle to her knee. here bones are very brittle. she was dancing the line dance turned left and the left leg broke right under the knee , she fell on the broken leg right at the brake and crushed it in six other fraudsters. the plate is held in place with 84 screws some clamps and glue. so keep her in the kitchen keeping my fat tummy in tune. ( HA HA HA) see you Later.

Good morning everyone. Sun is shining and TV says 70°.
I might get PT here at home. I told the doctor about what the pain doctor did with that needle hitting a nerve at my spine and how my left leg is now bothering me. Will see what happens.

SHIRLEY glad you liked those quotes. your one spot rain is odd, sort of like the day it was raining and I drove into sunshine and out of it in a space of 100 feet. Those mothballs are what I used to keep raccoons away from the trash barrel. I put some in a net bag and tied to the handle and they never came back. Good way to keep critters out of a garden too. Just not on the ground near a vegetable garden.

JANE  with 2 working together the work does get done faster and easier for both working together.

AMY  those cedar shakes make great kindling and also shims. Wish I has seen those work quotes when I was still working.

Have a good day, think  will go lay on the couch for awhile. Every time I have to go anywhere I feel very tired for a couple of days after.

Hi everyone. It is a hot and humid day here in South Carolina and will get into the mid 90's this afternoon.  Fortunately it is predicted to be cloudy later today.  I made a quick trip to Walmart to get a prescription for Pat and to pick up a couple of hardware items before it got too hot this morning.  Fortunately there was a riding cart available.  Still not feeling at all peppy.  Fortunately I have nothing else to do today.  The housekeeper is here so soon we will have a spic and span house again.

We had a very nice time at our Sunday School party last evening.  Almost all of the regular attendees on Sunday made it to the party.  The food was delicious and I was able to fix a plate full of food to bring home so our supper tonight is all set.  Pat was feeling better yesterday and seems to be OK today.

Gloria, we are going to return the Tens Unit as defective.  The company has never bothered to return my call about the problem so why would we want to do business with them.  I liked the Edgar Bergen quote about work.  It has been a long time since I thought about him and his puppets.  The other quotes are good also.

Shirley, it sounds like you were one of the lucky one right under the little cloud.  I have done the same thing that Cas did most of my life in trying to save money.  It does sound like you had an abundance of vehicles with four for two people.  :)  Sorry you can't find a housekeeper.

June, I think I mentioned that when I saw the PA the other day one of the things she said I needed to do was eat more salt.  I have never been one to use the salt shaker at every meal and old habits are hard to break.

Jane, it sounds like you have a keeper in your housekeeper.  Before we moved we had two cousins who worked as a team housecleaning and they were also a dynamite due.  Glad you got a good report from the eye doctor.

Jenny, is your friend Patti by herself?  Glad her surgery went well.  I guess you haven't seen anymore postings from Joe about his mother Joan.

Lloyd, three acres to mow is way too much.  Do you do all of that on your riding lawnmower or can you do some of it with a mower pulled by your tractor?  Sorry to hear that Nancy has such brittle bones.  It sounds like she needs to be very careful.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe July 17, 2017

Larry I do all with the o turn lawn mower except around the trees and flowers at about 7 or 8 miles per hour speed . takes me close to 3 hours when I mow it all.part of it I lower the mower deck down to about 1" on the other side of the drive where Jeff had his trailer and down at the shop yard I raise it up to about 2 2,1/2" tall. I am thinking about fencing up to the two front coiners of the greenhouse  and along the side of the drive and let the cows mow a bit over one acre.  I mowed that part this morning the temp is climbing up so I ate noon meal and going to go take a shower and call it a day. they say going up to 82 but they been missing that by at least 3-5º. have a great afternoon.

Larry, it seems my doctor suspicions lack of salt, when I see her and tell her how completely fatigued I feel. The way I feel today tells me I need something, for sure. Even my arms feel too tired to depend on in any manner, plus the shortness of breath..I have to pant at times to get more air. So I listen to the body, and just rest.

Came home from work and let the doggies out then we all had a bite to eat.  I started to make a pasta salad with some of the pasta I cooked the other day.  Don't have much in it so far but when I get it in a bigger bowl, I think I'll find more things to toss in.  I know I have some shredded carrots and some olives in the fridge.  I'll have to see what else needs to be used up.

But FIRST, I'm going to check the sofa and make sure the girls didn't clean all the zzzs out of it yesterday.

I hope you all have a pleasant "rest of the day".  Sure wish we'd hear something about Joan.

Well this is the day our celebration begins!  All the family is scurrying around to prepare for the pool party tonight....  Mark and Megan arrived by air from Arizona safely.  I talked to my dad and expressed how sad we all are that he is not here with us.  Kurt and the family are enroute from Vail.  Sadly it is clouding up......I sure hope if it is going to rain that it gets with it and is over by our 5 PM party time start.

JANE, it is so hard to be a distance away, and not be able to pitch in and help.  I hope your cleaning crew left a few zzz's there on that sofa for you.

LARRY, Patti is not alone, her husband is there with her but he is just not the kind of person that is there for her.  She has a hard time getting him to hear her call.....then when he responds she asks him to get something and he gets around to it when ever.  It is sad.  My hubby was here for me and hardly left my side as he always was thinking ahead to what I might be needing.

Oh my.....lots of company!  So now it is after 10 PM.  WE just arrived home after our wonderful party at the pool.  It rained on us but then cleared up.  The kids swam and enjoyed themselves.  It was wonderful to have our entire family together.

I must say goodnight to all.  Pleasant dreams to all.

Hi everyone. We have a 60% chance of some rain this morning and I sure hope it does rain and I won't need to turn the sprinklers on for watering on Monday.  However, it will be in the 90's again today.  I just had a quiet day yesterday and expect to have the same today as am very short of breath.

We are having a couple over this evening for a visit.  They attend our Sunday School class and we want to get to know them better.  We are doing a meal as that is just too hard and if they are agreeable we will perhaps go out to eat with them occasionally.  We really haven't developed a social circle of friends other than those we know from Church and see at Church.

Lloyd, the first riding mower I ever had was an old used one.  I had never used one before and when I got to the end of my back yard and started to turn I hadn't allowed enough room and plowed right through some planting my neighbor had along our property line.  I was going too fast and couldn't stop in time.  I was embarrassed but my nice neighbors told me not to worry about it.  I bet your property is pretty when you get it mowed.

June, do you feel like you have to force yourself to move and that it takes so much effort to move about or do anything?  Sometimes I get so exhausted that my head doesn't want to stay upright and leans to one side.  That is when I know I have pushed too hard  I am fine while I am sitting or even better laying down but know I must keep going.  I would like to attend a meeting in a few minutes but just don't have the energy so will just stay in today.  I sure understand your comment about having to pant after you have done something.

Jane, I hope you found some ZZZ's yesterday.

Jenny, have a wonderful weekend and get all the hugs you can.  This is a time for celebration and I bet your family will have done it up well.  Very sad that Patti's husband isn't responsive to her as what better way to express our love than to be there for our mate when needed.  I see the pool party was a big success and the rain didn't interfere with the kids getting in the pool.

Good morning everyone, had a sleepless night, finally fell asleep about 4:39 this morning to have the phone wake me at 8. Did not make me happy.

JUNE  sorry you do not feel that great today.

LARRY  sorry that Tens machine is not what you expected. Like I said a good one would cost hundreds. I know the one when I had PT must have been more like a thousand at least. Glad you liked those quotes.

JANE  if you are anything like me I never make a pasta salad the same way. Always add what I happen to have at the time.

JENNY  glad the rain did not ruin your party.

AMY  it was cool here last night but sleep just did not come to me. No sunshine this morning and would have still been sleeping if the dar phone did not wake me.

LLOYD  not nice waking with a headache, hope it goes away.

JEANNE LEE   prayers the next scan is better news.

I hope we hear something about JOAN soon. I know we are all worried about her

Sorry to have abandoned you all on the PWP but my daughter texted that she was going to the Amish store and did I want to go along.  I did!  Just got everrythin put away, took a load of laundry out of the dryer, put another one in and another load in the washer.  Now I have to go fold the ones I took out of the dryer.

After lunch, I'm going to rest and get ready for my shift at WM.  The weather is in the high 70s with a glorious breeze.  I have all the windows and doors open and I'm enjoying it.  I hope you all are having a great day, too.

I just brought the last of the laundry in off the line, kitchen has been cleaned up after canning cherries and now tis time to rest.  We have 14 jars of cherries that will be tasty come winter....next will be peaches .
I need to clip these girls nails, went to the neighbours and  did their dog's nail so he is done. Maybe tomorrow will be soon enough for these ladies.

Jeanne Lee prayers for you that the next CT scan will show that it went  away!!

Hal do you put a mulch around your plants to keep the moisture in?

Larry ,enjoy your visit  with your friends.

Gloria, when the phone rings early or late at night I always think the worst..

June. Now I have 2 doctors that can't figure out why I am so tired these day. At first I put it to being the hot weather.  But each one thinks it is a mild BP pill I take. Body is showing low Sodium. I Cant understand as one time they are saying Watch your salt intake and now saying not enough salt. Bloodtest show that.  Let me know what your doctors suggest to you

Amy, I only have one plant in the ground.  A trumpet plant and the blasted thing takes a ton of water.  My other plants are in hanging baskets or clay pots.  Nothing like what I used to have.  But I just can't take care of plants like I used to.  Especially hanging plants, they need feeding on a regular basis, weekly or monthly.  I still have one English Ivy that is about 40 years old.  A gift to my wife from one of the kids for Mother's Day, was just a sprig.

Good afternoon dear ones. Another slow day for me…sorry about that. I was on the computer earlier today looking up some stuff, but turned weary in a hurry, so more reading and resting.  I must get down to the library, so will do that next. Have two books to turn in and two more to pick up.

lloyd, what does you Dr. say about these severe headaches you are having all the time. I am concerned for you.

Jeanne Lee, I wish you had received better news on the lung scan. Prayers will be increased for you.

Larry, Yes…too tired too much of the time. But I am older than you, so I expect things to go awry. Yes, we must keep doing as much as possible and not give up or give in. I'm sorry you are having similar problems. I find myself "slumping" in posture, and I don't like that, so I'm trying to be more aware of keeping my stomach pulled in and the shoulders up and straight. I ordered lunch sent to my room today, there is a delivery charge but I'm glad we have that service. They give us such huge servings, I will have enough for supper as well as the lunch.

Janie, I need to do a load of laundry too but don't have the energy. I can hire it done by the staff here…fifty dollars a month, but I don't want to give up yet. Our laundry room is just a few doors down the hall from my apt, so it's no  big chore…just wears me out folding it up and putting it away.

Hal, those temps you have require air conditioning for sure. I would be sitting in a cold shower most of the day. Our high was only 83..but the A/C is still going on in my Apt.

Amy, I have a feeling my Dr. will increase the salt tablets again. This profound tiredness is a symptom of needed salt. I never knew that salt was that important to our health, till now. What I like about living here is that I do not have to accept hospital visits, with the exception of uncontrolled bleeding, or heart attack. If I am ever bed-ridden my son plans to call hospice, so I can stay right here in my Apt. till I die. I feel very, very blessed.

JeanneP, if you blood tests show low sodium I hope your Dr. recommends the salt tablets. They do help. If you check your computer on this problem you will learn the necessity of salt in your diet.

Lloyd, I am aware that you are a Vet and I thank you for your service to our country. It amazes me that you are allowed to suffer these headaches and there is no help for you. If it is stress causing your pain, there are medications that could help you to conquer this stress. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, so perhaps you should squeak at these doctors.

I did get down to the library and picked up some more books. Stopped at the clinic downstairs and enquired if the report was in from my last blood test. It was, I had them make a copy for me, and all looks good. So I guess I don't need more salt tablets. My problem must be age.  :(

JUNE, you might think there's nothing you can do about your age but there is.  Some years ago I decided not to get any older and instead of having any more birthdays, I'm having UN-BIRTHDAYS!  On your UNbirthday, you deduct a year instead of adding.  I admit, you are getting a rather late start at this UNbirthday thing but no matter when you start, it has to work.  I've been doing it for about 10 years now.  I asked the DR. what she thought about it and she said, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it.  It's working for you.  I've never seen a healthier Senior Citizen."

Now I'm sure you all know this is in jest....except for the part about what my DR said.  She always tells me she doesn't know why I came in for a check up. I'm healthier than she is.

Good Night Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed and may God bless us every one.

Guess I didn't post about my son's MIL going into the retirement home yesterday.  We were all uneasy about how she would handle the move, since she has more or less isolated herself for a long time.  Her husband had been in rehab for at least a year before he died, she handled that (several years ago).  Then she moved to another area in FL where a couple of her friends lived.  One had to go into full care and the other moved north to be hear her daughter, so she was alone again.  Her Alzheimer's had progressed (or lack of proper food & taking her meds on time) caused mental & physical deterioration.  Her doctor told my DIL she had to be taken care of.  She has been in their house since May and not willing to do any walking/exercise or show any signs of being interested in doing anything.  During the move, a group of "little old ladies", most in their 90s came to welcome her, joking and pulling her out of her shell and telling her family "they would see she gets down to supper, back to her room and again make sure she was led down to breakfast".  The family was so impressed that it was such a positive step they were breathing a sigh relief when they called me last night. Family was invited to have lunch with them and meet everyone, and they were welcome to do so any time.  Don't know how long she will get to stay in "Assisted" before moving on to Memory Care, but so far so good and we can all hope the Alzheimer's has not been the problem, just needed some help with daily living.  So we pray.

Jeanne Lee, I am so sorry about your news, tests don't lie but sometimes they are wrong.... Many many years ago my brother had a "spot/mass" on his lung, an officer in the Army.  He was supposed to go to Panama so instead they sent him to dry Greenland.  When he got back the spot was gone & he is now 92, going strong.  Extra prayers for you as I kneel in the morning.

Jenny, so glad your friend made it through surgery okay. I expect she is used to her husband not pampering her..... some of us are stronger because we have to be.  My husband would watch me to see how I was going to react to a hospital stay (babies, miscarriages, heart surgery).... he was relieved when I took charge & fixed breakfast, willing to do anything I ask but he didn't know what I wanted him to do.  I think it was better for me to just do what was normal.  We all face things differently, maybe your friend can't handle pity or sympathy either.  With me, first thing I know, all's well again. Best wishes for her, such a tragedy.

June, I copied your message about how important salt is.  My son & DIL do not add salt to anything, say they get enough in processed foods.  They both perspire profusely so I remind them about people taking salt tablets during WWII.... (they smile as if
I'm talking about prehistoric times).... I've realized for years that when I get that extreme exhausted feeling a few salty potato chips or cheese puffs makes all the difference immediately.  (My story & I'm sticking to it as a chip fan!)  :baaa:

I didn't get much sleep last night either, Gloria, knew it was supposed to get cooler than my thermostat is set on so was hoping I'd get to open the door for fresh air.  About 3:00 am I got up to check actual temp, turned off the AC & opened the door.  Tom & Tiger made a run for the door when they heard it open, came in to have a snack & wanted back out.  I wasn't sleepy so didn't go sound asleep for a couple hours, then conked out until near 9:00 am.  I did check e-mail since I'd offered to pick youngest son up at airport but didn't know what time his flight got in.  During the awake time I found he didn't need a ride so I gave my body permission to NOT be on alert.   Didn't have anything I wanted to do today so kept falling asleep every time I came in to the computer room.... I flop across the end of the queen size Tempurpedic, watch TV & fall asleep immediately.

Just had an hour long call from my daughter, she is baby sitting her gr-son in Seattle.  The new baby is due early Sept so now that she is retired, all 4 of her kids have reason to need her help!   ;)  Then my oldest son called to check & make sure I'm okay. He calls every night about 10:00.  Seems his MIL didn't wake up for breakfast, went down after lunch was over so ate alone, so DIL went over to eat with her tonight.  She was having trouble remembering where to look for a clock (3 in the room) and guess the day was not as they hoped it would go.  I don't know if she acts like this because of Alzheimer's, but this has been her personality as long as I've known her (36 years).  My gr-mother took over the nursing home when she had to move in, strong willed & opinionated, back in the day when they only had one TV in the main room, she would manage to get the chair & channel SHE preferred..... until she died at 96.  Nothing wrong with her mind, family realized she ruled!  I would think the same of this lady since she's been totally spoiled as long as I've known her, but she does have the Alzheimer's diagnosis.

We've had such extreme heat day & night that 2 cooler days of 80s to low 90s feels like early fall..... I sleep better with fresh hair but
have not been able to turn off the AC since early spring.  I keep checking the temps in CO mountains but still hot out there... and no AC in the RV or most of the buildings.  Still plan to wait until mid Sept to go back to call old LaurenKat.  I am sure she is not alive, but have to satisfy my own mind that I tried.  I wish she could have died in her own back yard and not been afraid, but she was at least free.

News is over, I'd better feed cats again & take my shower, put clothes out for church.  Sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'll be getting ready for church soon so not much time to chat this morning.

I checked the temp when I got up because it felt pretty chilly.  It's 52º!  Talk about feeling like Fall.  It's even a bit foggy out there!  it not only feels like Fall.  It looks like Fall, too.  It's supposed to be sunny and the temps will be into the low 80s later today.  A very unusual late July for this area.

Everyone have a good day.  Do whatever makes you happy.

Hal, that ivy must be beautiful!!!

Shirley, that must give your son and dil relief when all the ladies pitch in to help his mil.

Good morning everyone, a brr one for July, in the 50's again overnight. Just heard on the local weather that some places got into the upper 40's. More like October than July. I like it though and even before i got into bed last night I put a blanket on the bed. Glad I did. Even have my warm robe on now. Feels good. Sun is shining bright so will warm up but low humidity. Love it.

JANE  an unexpected trip to the Amish store must have made you happy. Hope you got some good buys while there. Housework will always be there waiting when you get home.

HAL  I would never be able to live where it gets as hot as it does there. I would have to stay inside with the ac going full blast. I will stay here in the northeast.

AMY  my daughter got a bale of straw and put it on the ground around her plants, she said it has been working great at keeping the soil from drying out. My family know not to call me after 9pm and I seldom get calls early in the morning. When I do I think of something happened in the family. Scares me.

JUNE  like you I find myself slumping often. I end up leaning my right arm on the handle of my rollator to take most of my weight off my left hip. When I realize it I make myself stand up straight.

JANE  your health is so good because you are still working and meeting new people all the time.

SHIRLEY  looks like your son's MIL is now in a great place where she will get care and have others around. I don't think there is anything worse than being alone all the time.

LLOYD  supposed to get close to 80° here today. I love the cool nights like the last 2 here. No ac and good for sleeping.

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be getting a break on the hot weather with it staying in the high 80's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a total wipe out for me as spent most of the morning and early afternoon laying down.  Our friends did come over for a couple of hours early in the evening.  We found out we have much in common with them.  We plan to go out to eat with them on occasion as they often eat out on Friday nights and we do also. I plan on going to Sunday School and Church this morning and then getting something to bring home for lunch.  Pat is not going as has a stabbing pain in her back again and didn't think she could sit still in the hard chairs or the pews.  Later this afternoon I will watch the conclusion of the RBC Gold Championship being played on a beautiful course in close to Ontario.

I have read all the postings since yesterday but will forego individual comments today as need to leave for Sunday School in a couple of minutes. I hope all will have an enjoyable day.  It sounds like several of us will be enjoying a bit cooler day.

Good Morning Everyone!

I too am getting ready for church, coffee is ready and I need to put some shoes and socks on.

Gloria, we use our a/c all summer and some of the time during the rest of the year.  But with a little rain our weather is quite nice, really.  Just all these yankees and left coasters that are messing things up now.  They all have moved here and now want to make it just like the place they just left to come here to get away from it.  :crazy2: :uglystupid2:

Got to get a move on.

Went to church and stayed for coffee hour.  Those of us who go to the early service seem more like family than just friends.  If someone isn't there, we notice and we miss them.

After church I went to the Farmers Market and came with tomatoes to can, beans to freeze for the veggie soup in the Fall and a shiny red pepper.

Three nice things happened today...first, I was at WM after the Farmers Market and I was stretching to reach something on the top shelf.  Suddenly a hand and arm went over my head and handed me the item.  Nice young man...tall too.

Second, at the Farmers market, I bought a box of tomatoes to can and I was telling the clerk that I'd have to go bring my car closer to pick them up because I wouldn't be able to carry them all the way.  The lady behind me in line turned to her husband and asked him to carry them to my car for me.  He not only carried them for me, he felt all the box bottoms until he found a dry one....no bad tomatoes in that box.

Third...I was putting my groceries in the car at WM and just as I finished, a gentleman said "would you like me to return that cart for you?"

Three nice strangers in the space of about 1 hour.  How much better can this day get!

I hope you all have a day this good!

Janie, good for you girl, getting younger each year. It sure works well for you too, my dear. I guess I'm just the opposite, I'm happy with every new Birthday God gives me, and if there are bumps in the road along the way to being 93, I'll try to put more air in my "tiredness". And I should not gripe about things as I  travel the miles. Whatever will be, will be.

Tisie, when I was the age of your son and his wife, I would have felt as they do, but it may be what age we are that makes a difference. I did notice several years ago, that if I sprinkled salt on my palm and then tongued it that it did perk me up almost instantly. Now I am still taking just two salt tablets, down from four, and the blood test was in the safe zone.

Amy, thank you for your concern. I did skip church today…..just tired, and felt the need to stay home, so I did.

Gloria, we have several ladies here that lean one arm and elbow on the handle of their hand rest of their rollator. Some of them have a bad limp, others have a lump on their back where they cannot straighten up even when sitting, so it must be a spine problem.  At our exercise class they tell us to sit straight and not lean back on the chair, and that does help in posture.

Larry and Hal, good boys for getting yourselves off to Church today. I feel I got short-changed by my body.

Gloria de, I am saddened to think of you having these
"mild" heart attacks. Do you go to the hospital via ambulance ? I pray God strengthens your heart.

I have been reading my eyes out again today, so I will take some walks around the hallways and maybe sneak out side for a while too. Since I missed Church I feel guilty for going out now, but the body is saying "Go".

Janie, no, I thought you meant it about your un-Birthdays, and I thought it was a great idea, since it worked so well for you. You amaze me, and Amy too. I was doing great about four years ago, but little by little the body started telling me to act my age. And the past month or so it requires more gentle care. I did get out for a short walk, picked up a couple of banana's since my potassium level was down a bit. Sat outside in a glider for leg exercise and ate a banana. Picked up next weeks activity calendar, and have checked off the things in which I plan to participate . God willing.

For supper tonight I will have some left over lentil soup, and some buttered broccoli, and maybe another short walk for fresh air. My windows are all open, but I don't get the windy fresh air where I am located, it blows from the south straight past my windows, which face East. What ever will be will be...I am thankful. And I love you all bushels and bunches.

A good Sunday Night HELLO to all.

Our wonderful celebration gathering is over and I can not tell you how fantastic it was. We had such a delightful time last night at the club.  The dinner was so delicious, and we all just laughed and enjoyed each other so much.  There were pictures taken all evening long and after seeing them today they are going to be a joy to all for many years to come.  One daughter-in-law had a life sized cardboard cut out photo made of us coming out of the church.  When I saw it I was so over taken with emotions.  The same DIL had a double layer cake made that was so beautiful.  Words just do not express how wonderful the whole evening was.

We gathered again today at Dr. Dave's and enjoyed the last few hours together.  Watching the pictures taken last night as a slide show was so enjoyable. It is hard to not be sad that this celebration is over, but we are just feeling so blessed to have had all of our family here.

GLORIA de, I am sad to read that you have been in the hospital again with another heart attack.  I hope you continue to feel stronger each day and NO more heart attacks allowed❣️

JEANNE LEE, I am very sad to read about the results of your test.  I will continue good positive thoughts and say prayers that the spot on the lung will not grow any larger and in fact, will disappear.  I know it is a big concern for you and I am sorry.

LARRY, it is good to read that you had friends over and enjoyed some time together.

SHIRLEY, anytime there is Alzheimer's involved it can be so very difficult to deal with those inflicted with it.  I do hope Andy's
MIL will settle in and be OK for a good long time.  Sure hope we can see you when you return to Colorado.  It has been much too long since we saw you last.

JANE, I always love to hear that you have been to the Armish Store.  You got a lot of good veggies to can now.

I must head off to bed.....I've had a few naps tonight in my recliner.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

I'm also doing a new crock pot dinner while I work on the tomatoes.

I hope you all have a great day!

Good morning to all.  I was here much earlier, awake before 3:00 am & finally up at 4:00.  Fed cats (all 3 waiting for breakfast), and myself before checking the computer.  Wanted to see if rain was close before letting cats out, not close, good thing, I have the sprinkler system running.

Had an e-mail from my recently retired daughter, baby sitting her 2 year old gr-son and helping her daughter fix up the new baby's room, she is due early Sept.  I read & laughed so hard I just had to share her Sunday afternoon.

"What a day - Cole was upstairs with Jennifer this afternoon while she was getting ready for the baby shower and he ran into the bathroom - slammed the door and locked it. We didn't even know it locked.  We tried everything we could to get it opened - it locks from the inside - it's 100 year old hardware - and the only door in the house that has a lock that doesn't have a key.  So, we ended up having to call the fire department - sirens and all - to get Cole rescued.  Poor little guy - once we popped off the door knob he started sobbing - we ended up passing his binky, lovy (owl), his blanket and a small car under the door - and, a snack.  When he asked for milk we both about lost it.  We were trying to keep him calm.  He did a good job and even the firemen couldn't believe how calm we all were.  They had to use a crowbar on the door - a special crow bar - and were quite concerned that they were messing with a historic home - and kept making sure we knew that they would have to damage the door.  After they got it opened the fireman \said that there was absolutely nothing else that could have been done (short of busting down the door) - but, I kept reminding them that it was a small bathroom and there was a 2 yr old standing on the other side - so, they were really concerned".....

Laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes as I replied with....  "Do you remember when Andy was that age and I found him on roof of the house?"   He had pulled his red wagon to the base of the TV tower/antenna, climbed to each level and jumped over (at least 2') to the edge of the roof.... that's how he got down, anyway.  I was pregnant, no ladder handy and afraid he would fall off if I left him alone to go inside to call for help (before cell phones).  He didn't have a scratch on him when he got down.  Funny thing about these kids, they never do the same thing twice but always creating a new day to remember.

I hope all of you have days that stick in your memory, terrifying or destructive at the time and so funny years later.  I've enjoyed life, all the days, even the crazy ones, and can still stand back and laugh at what goes on today.  Smiles to all, and hugs.  Shirley

Good morning everyone, looks like a day for the heat and humidity to return. Nice now at 60° but will go up to 80+ later. The last few days have been great.

HAL  you sound like you do not like Yankees or left coasters. Glad I live on the Atlantic coast. You sound like those who live in this town for several generations. People from the city move here to live in the country and then they want the same conveniences they had in the city. No longer a quiet peaceful town.

JANE  these days it always surprises me when a stranger helps and you had 3 in one day. wonderful to know some people still are like that.

GLORIA de  so sorry you were in the hospital again. I am sorry, too, I did not realize you had not posted. I hope you are doing much better now.

JUNE  I used to sit straight in a chair but now I sit back and rest against the seat back. When I realize how I am walking I try to straighten up but that does not last long.

JENNY  not everyone has such a wonderful anniversary like you and Bob did this weekend. To have all your family gathered together is wonderful. Been too long since I have had that pleasure, always someone missing.

JEANNE LEE  I hope and pray that the time to panic never arrives. We have had to many who used to post here just stop posting and wonder what happened to them. Same thing back in SN in is' Nest. We come in and talk to each other every day, more at times than our real families. Like in here with no news about Joan, we all miss her and are worried. Molly and Sun no longer post, what happened to

JANE  thank God to whoever invented the crockpots. I know when I was working I used mine often. I now have a small one and use that at times.

AMY  only knew one person who made her own mustard now you do. Mild or spicy? Hers had a bit of a bite but so good.

LLOYD  have a good day and no hard work.

SHIRLEY  bet your daughter and granddaughter were more upset tha Cole was. Glad all ended well.

Hi everyone. We had a glorious day yesterday with the high only getting to 85 degrees and low humidity.  Yesterday afternoon the humidity was on 44%.  It looks like today will also be very nice only getting up to around 90 degrees and so far only 50% humidity.  We have no rain in the forecast.

Only two things on the schedule for today.  The chair lift technician is due around 10 am.  It has been well over a year since he was last here and a couple of small problems have developed that need attention as well as regular maintenance.  Then probably this afternoon I will make a quick trip to Aldi's for a few items.  I had another exhausted day yesterday and went to bed about 8 pm and didn't get up this morning until around 8 am.  I did enjoy Sunday School and Church yesterday.

Hal, your comments about the left coasters and yankees moving in and wanting to change things reminds me of the people who build or move into an area near an airport and complain about the noise or live next to a preexisting pig for cattle raising farm and start complaining about the smell.

Jane, it really does make our day when nice things happen to us or we can do something nice for someone else.  There are so many good people in this world.  One reason I watch the NBC Nightly News is that they also end with an "Inspiring America" piece about something positive.

deAngel, as Hal said you are also in my prayers.  Glad to see you posting.

June, it is hard not to learn back in our chairs as it is a lifelong habit.  You are certainly doing the right thing by participating in things only when you feel up to doing so.  Church will be the last thing I give up on getting out of the house to attend.  You certainly have no need to feel guilty when you miss Church as you have good reason and the walk later is good for you.  We do feel differently at different times of the day.

Lloyd, I often wonder why the public needs to know every detail of every bad thing that is happening.  Hope you were able to get a good night's sleep.

Jenny, your comments about your celebration absolutely glow with happiness.  I am so glad you had such a wonderful time and now you can look forward to another big celebration on your 60th Anniversary.  I hope to see a lot of your pictures on your Facebook page.  It sounds like you have a very loving and thoughtful DIL.

Jeanne, there may be other similar sites like S&F's but I am not aware of them and I don't see how the friendships and caring could exceed what we have here.  It sounds like you and I share the same philosophy in that I will deal with whatever comes but sure not sit around and anticipate what may never be.  Our hours are too precious to waste them on useless worry.

Amy, do you have a mustard bush and your own raspberry bushes?

Shirley, I also ran my sprinkler system this morning.  Even though we had a lot of rain last week the ground here in South Carolina seems to dry out very quickly.  Poor Cole caught in the bathroom and not understanding what was going on.  I wonder how often the firemen are called to deal with similar situations. My Andy was certainly an adventuresome little boy.

Gloria, sorry to read your good days of weather may be ending today.  They are such a relief when a good day comes around.

Good Morning Everyone!

Would you believe it, we got some rain late yesterday afternoon.  Just a good shower but it was really welcome.  a little cold front came through and brought the shower.  :nanadance:

Ah Gloria, I do like folks that are Yankees and from the Left coast, just look at my friends on S&F, I wouldn't trade them for anything.  I have always had a theory that a/c ruined things here in Texas.  Before a/c all these folks wouldn't even have considered moving here, too hot, too dusty, to back woodsy and we (us Texans) were a bunch of hicks.  Now they just cant seemed to get here fast enough and loved being consider good old Texas folks.

Tisie, I laughed along with you about the child/bathroom.  Years ago my wife and I had gone to visit some friends and got a call from one of my daughters advising us that our oldest daughter was locked in bathroom and couldn't get the door open.  First thing I ask is did she lock it and if so to unlock it, I was told she had tried to unlock it and it wouldn't unlock.  So home we went and for what I thought was a simple enough job of unlocking the door.  Wrong!  The mechanism had screwed up and I ended up having to take the whole thing apart from the outside, thankfully I could without tearing up everything.  But it took a while and Dad was not a happy camper, no at my daughter just at the stupid lock.
And of course it was a rent house.

I just finished sorting all the mail from the time my wife left and getting rid of the junk stuff.  Mail now days is 95 percent junk and the rest bills or begging, I think there was a grand total of 3-4 real letters, okay some cards.

Got a lot to do this morning.  PT at 11 and my regular dentist at 12:30 and then not sure what all in the afternoon.  My daughter and  her uncle are off to Stone Hedge today (in England) and my wife is going over to her brothers house to visit with them all day.  Their visit is rapidly coming to a close and then will be home on Wednesday night.  She, my wife, is already planning a trip to Del Rio to see my nephew and his family, who is coming down from Abilene, Texas for a weekend visit.

Everyone have a great day.

Gosh it is warming up fast here!! Temperature is 80 ° and I can hear thunder off in the distance. Picked the raspberries and the beans, we will have beans for dinner tonight and made the mustard. Took both dogs out in the shade and gave them a good brushing. We have a brush called the Furminator(sp?) and golly does it get the hair!!

Larry, these are wild bushes that grow around the fence in the garden, I don't get many berries but enough to give hubby a bowl full with cream at noon. I use mustard powder to make the mustard,I buy the powder at No Frills grocery store.

Gloria, this is hot...will clear your sinuses if you take too much which I have done by mistake. but it is so good on sandwiches or in salads.

Shirley, thank you for the laugh.oh my what tales they will have to tell when older!!

Hal , I bet that rain smelled nice too!!!

Shirley, to show you how things have changed with bathroom locks - I moved to this condo 36 years ago and mine was the 8th unit to be sold.  An elderly couple lived next door (they were younger than I am now) and he told me he was going to get a key for their bathroom door and did I want one.  I had never heard of a key for the bathroom door, checked and found that a flathead screwdriver did the job.  I told my neighbor about that and I think I saved him some money, or even some embarrassment.  And he was our "jack of all trades" for many years!  I doubt my method would have worked in a 100-year-old house; they did things differently back then!

Amy, I looked at my computer radar and the storm seems to be NE of you, unless I have your location wrong.  The storm is east of Georgian Bay and going east.  I wish we'd get some rain here; it has been a long time.  I will say I am enjoying the milder temperatures we've been having - high 70s, mid 80s, 50s at night and so good for sleeping.

Good Morning all, was in earlier and read all your dear posts, then the body said, "Go lay down !" So I did. All is well, had a good nights sleep and nothing pressing me to be any place at any time till tomorrow.

Janie, dear heart. Thank you for your kind message, I will do my best to try and live up to your words.

Jenny, I am so very happy for the wonderful Anniversary you have had with family. I think the life size cut out is  a great gift. Now where to you plan to keep it ? Maybe in the guest bathroom ????That would cause a great deal of laughter.

Jeanne Lee, no panic will be coming from my place. I am so confident that you are always in God's Hands, because He loves you, and He knows how much we care for you and need you with us. Good people like you are always needed in this world, so keep punching girl, you are never alone.

Amy, you make mustard ?????? Do you grow plants ? I never new where mustard came from.I will have to Google that up !

Tisie,You folks raise some dare-devil kids ! Slamming doors and getting locked up, and others climbing on to the roof ??!! Mercy. Enough to make ones hair turn white.

Gloria, I know what you mean about our intentions to try good posture. I keep my computer chair pushed back far enough so I can't touch the back and have to sit straight enough to reach the keyboard. Does if work ? No. Eventually I find my shoulders slumped forward. Grrrrrrrr.

Larry, morning used to be good for me, it is only the past few weeks that I'm tired and want to spend the day in bed, or the recliner. I make myself get out of bed, but the recliner is always available. There are three things I want to participate in tomorrow..at 10 a.m. is the monthly Community Members Assoc.,then at 1:30 they are starting a laptop class in the Library here,  and I really need that class. At 2:45 is our balance and mobility class. I hope I can talk the body into being available.

Hal, I'm happy for you that you got the rain you needed. Still dry here, but our temps are staying in the mid 80's, and some mornings are cloudy till about noon, and I like that

Gloria  thanks but you are too late for today.  I already have done more work than most folks do in two or three days. I have mowed the house yard took the crammer out and drove around on the four wheeler and took a bunch of pictures of garden yard house and trucks and machinery and bee hives. enough that it requires a side show to see them. but i need help on how to do that to capture them and show it here. I can do slide show and see it but do not know how to coppie it and save it and show here. it would take hours to post them here one at time. Grand daughter says she don't know how and dose not know if she knows how to figure it out. so if some of you can send me directions on how I would be in your debt. please and thanks.

Lloyd:  I hope you put your feet up and rest once in a while.

Mary Ann:  I drove a Chevy Suburban and it was a high step - so, I tried to jump into the seat one time and really cracked my head on the top of the door.  It wasn't the best time to happen because I then drove 3 neighbors quite a distance to the Faribault woolen mills where we all bought the wonderful blankets for gifts.  It taught me a lesson to think before leaping.

Gloria:  Take care

Jane S.  Great to read that your eye pressure is down.

Gloria de:  Take care.

Don is making biscuits and gravy for our very weak neighbor (he loves it).  We had a great visit with our daughter and she brought the two dogs.  They behaved well  - still, we are not in the position of taking on any pets.  The yard is not enclosed and coyotes make a den in the ravine.  By the way, we saw two deer yesterday.

My new allergy is noticeable enough these days so it is time to ask a pharmacist for a recommendation.

Gloria, now you know two people who make their own mustard.  Amy shared her recipe with me and I have 4 jars waiting to be used.

I've got about 2/3 of my tomatoes skinned and ready to can and I took a break and went to lunch with some of my former coworkers.  We always have a good time.  We talk about anything and everything and catch up on families and other friends who couldn't join us.

I stopped for a haircut on the way home and now I have to change my clothes and get back to the tomatoes.  I think I hear them calling my name.

Hope you are all having a good day!

Merry Monday,

Can't talk about cats or preparing food for winter or other subjects that are popular here but finally have something to write about other than what my day is like and then just saying "Ditto" for the rest of the week.

Last Thursday, a member of my 2-table Bridge Club became very confused and lethargic after the lunch break. She wouldn't let anyone take her to the doctor but finally agreed that someone could call her son.  Took a while to locate him but he did come - and took her to the hospital.   Although she did not have ANY of the "traditional" symptoms, she was diagnosed as having had a stroke that affected her speech, which had become "off and on" incoherent.   She will go to rehab for p.t.
Another member had similar issues last winter and had to drop out when she was diagnosed with dementia.  On Sunday, we learned that she is in the hospital - having possibly had a stroke.
Surely does put a gloom on the group.

On Friday,  my 19-year-old grandson (Sir Carson   :) ) came to wash the outside of my windows.  Not a professional job but they look much better than they had.  Best thing was that we visited for almost 2 1/2 hours.  I don't remember the last time I had a one-on-one time with him.   He will begin his 2nd year at OKState in a couple of weeks.

Shirley,  your story of the child in the bathroom reminded me of when #2 son had an emergency appendectomy the summer before his 6th birthday.  After a few days recovering at home, he was allowed to go out to play IF he was careful.
I looked out to see him climbing our back fence and yelled in my best schoolteacher tone,  "(His entire name), you get down off there right now!!!!"   He stopped, hesitated and then quickly climbed down.
When he was in his 30's,  he was telling the story and said his first thought when he didn't see anyone around was, "It's God.....and He sounds like Mom"!!!!!
(My first thought was, "Point made; point taken"   ;D )

I was surprised to see sprinkles on the windshield as I drove to an appointment this afternoon.  Was so hoping they would at least turn into a rain shower - but my side of town continues to be in a "doughnut hole" with rain all around but not over us.  :(

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Week.

Carol, the lack of strength in my legs would prevent me from jumping on the seat of the car.  I guess that is "dumb luck" but I'd rather have that than a cracked head!

Jane, it's interesting to find that tomatoes call your name too, not just the couch.

I left the cat out on the deck and he cried loud enough that Tom heard him and I did not.  He was glad to see me come to the door.  I probably did not set the timer.

My #2 son was the one who gave me the most gray hair.

Our driveway was quite steep and we always put a stone behind a wheel in addition to the hand brake, but my brother-in-law had purchased a car with the new-fangled "park" setting and he simply applied that.  2 years old, afraid of nothing, my son got into the car, somehow knocked the shift out of park and into neutral and the car rolled back down the driveway, across a busy street and onto the neighbor's lawn.

We saw the car just as it crossed the street and all ran to "save" my son - who happily and excitedly informed us "I go for ride!"

MARY ANN, many things over the years have called my name.  Sometimes, in the morning when I'm sitting on the porch watching the doggies first thing, I will hear a cup of coffee call my name.

Also, there is usually a bag of potato chips on top of the fridge and it calls my name continually until I answer.

When I have some kind of application to fill out and it has a deadline, it simply NAGS me until I get it done.

Back when the kids were growing up, the kitchen floor was always hollering "wash me, I'm getting itchy with all this crud on my surface."

You'd be surprised!

Good evenin was a beautiful day.  the rest of the week the paper said to day would be bad with very high humidity and high temps.
Thanks you everyone for kind thoughts. Nothing like my cyber friend. My legs seem to be very weak and I get out of breath if I do a little bite.

Jenny, your celebration sound like something you will remember a long time.

JeanneLee, my thoughts and prays are still with you.

Shirley, I am sure Cole was not as upset, as all his family.  Maybe he will grow up and want to be a firemen, after they just saved him.

June yes I did go by ambulance, I pushed my panic button, three of my neighbors were alerted, the cop was here almost right away and the ambulance was here within 10 min.

Gloria, I think we are going to have some muggy weather the next few days.  Saturday they tell me felt like fall, it was so cool.

Jane, I imagine lots of things call my name too, but I don't usually wear my "ears" unless I'm going somewhere.  I do hear OK, but the sound is garbled, so I don't understand what something is saying.  It's kind of convenient, but things can get messy too!  That's why we have a friend of Tom's come in every so often, maybe like once a month.  And I think she's due!

MARY ANN, I only have one good ear but the potato chips have always managed to holler in my good ear....the coffee, too.  Sometimes the dirty floor makes the mistake of talking into my bad ear and it takes a while to figure out what it wants.  My dad used to call that "selective hearing"  when we were kids.

Gloria de, I am so thankful you have the button to push if you need help. I do worry about you living all alone. When I moved here they insisted we wear the button constantly, especially in the shower as so many accidents happen there.Ours go off if we fall unconscious too. Which happened to me when I first moved here. I was seated on the shower bench, felt faint, and fell, when I put my head down.

I felt good earlier, so took a short walk but it didn't last...felt loopy so came on home. I do hope tomorrow will allow me to attend things. I'm tired of being too tired.

Like today the temperature was good and i worked outside  and in doing honey due chores. mowing and caring the trash and garbage out.and taking pictures that I am going to post when i get figured out how to. on my computer I can do a slide show but do not know how to put it in the format to post it here in S & F . then after noon meal I boiled 2 dozen eggs and shelled them cut them in half long ways and took the yokes out and mixed up the filling and made deviled eggs. Nancy has been busy today also. she made some brownies with Secunia in them moist the best i ever ate. a lady at church gave here the recipe.

Good morning Everyfriend!  I think I slept better last night than I have in a month.  I actually felt rested when I got up.  The temps have been going into the low 60s overnight and it's definiely good sleeping weather.  But last night I was really tired.  When I finally sat down to watch some TV, I went to sleep on the sofa.  Decided that it was time to go to bed no matter what the clock said.

(MARYANN, the bed was calling my name!)

This morning I'll be doing my time behind the check out at Wally World and then when I come home, I'm hoping to have enough left to get one canner full of tomatoes going.  With my new electric canner and the tomatoes all peeled and ready, that shouldn't take too long.  I also want to get some cooking for sauce.  Maybe I'll do that today also because I can get the sauce canned tomorrow morning.

I hope all this works out and I'm not biting off more than I can chew just because I feel rested this morning.

Yesterday, my SIL cut my grass again.  I told him I was getting behind in my payments because of not being there when he cut it previously.  (It costs me one heartfelt hug each time he cuts the grass).  He said I wouldn't want to hug him today because he was so sweaty.  I told him if he didn't mind the tomato smell, I could handle the sweat.  We agreed on on SUPERSIZE hug to cancel all past debts.  My daughter certainly got us a keeper when she brought him home!

Good morning everyone..

Another hot muggy one in the making here. We did have some rain last night ,just a gentle one  that saved me from watering the garden.

Jane, way to go with all that work done. what about making the sauce in the crock pot overnight???  Both the sauce and tomatoes will taste great come winter and the best part is YOU know what is it them. I checked my supply and I don't need to do tomatoes ,applesauce or green relish this year. Need to do beets and zucchini relish and that is it ..unless a new recipe crosses my path :) Hugs are thee best payment !!

Mary Ann it seems the storm missed us , but they are calling for more rain and some thunderstorms for the remaining of the week.

I hope we hear from Joan soon.

Enjoy your day everyone..

AMY, I thought about using the crock pot for sauce and I haven't discarded that thought yet.  I'll mull it over while I'm smiling at the customers this morning.  I already have the peppers and onions chopped and that would probably be the perfect size for the little jars I use for recipes.

I don't need a lot of stuff this year either.  I still have 3 jars of "AMY'S ZUCCHINI RELISH" left.  So I think that will hold me.  And now I have 4 jars of mustard sitting beside it.  I think I might need to do beets but that can wait a bit.

Now I better think about getting into uniform so the customers will know who I am.

Hi everyone. It is another beautiful morning here in South Carolina although the humidity is back up today.  Yesterday it was nice all day and the humidity stayed down.

The only thing on my schedule for today is to pay the first of the month bills (which I have already done), make a quick drive to Kroger's to pick up an online grocery order and then this evening Pat and I plan on going out to eat.  There are a couple of other little projects around the house I may tackle later this morning. The last couple of days I have felt better than I did last week for which I am grateful.

Hal, glad you finally got a little rain.  I expect folks like coming to Texas for the lack of a state income tax, having a state that is not heavily in debt and one where there seems to be jobs.  Of course having nice people like you doesn't hurt either.  Do you get a lot of catalogs in your junk mail?  We certainly do and got one this week from a company we had never heard of before.

Amy, I have never seen mustard powder in any of the grocery stores we have used.  Most stores do not stock bulk foods, in fact I know of none around here.

Mary Ann, I just checked the lock on our bathroom doors and there is just a pinhole on the outside that probably an ice pick or paper clip  would unlock.  Since we have no children here anymore not much danger of needing to get someone out of a locked bathroom.

Mary Ann, it is amazing what a relief it is to just lay down sometimes.

June, remember the parable in the Bible about the mustard seed, which is the tiniest of all seeds that grown into very large bushes?  Amy can correct me if I am wrong but think the mustard powder is from the ground seeds produced by those bushes.  I hope you will feel up to participating in the things today you mentioned yesterday.

Lloyd, hope you don't work so hard today.  You certainly had a busy day yesterday.

Carol, I can visualize your jumping to get into your car.  Sure it wasn't fun or funny at the time but sure makes a funny image.  Nice of Don to make more biscuits and gravy for you weak neighbor.

Jane, I hope those talking tomatoes didn't call too loudly.  :)

Callie, strokes are so scary.  We had a good friend who suffered a severe stroke over 30 years ago that left her crippled and with one hand that didn't want to work.  She was a delightful person and the played a lot of games with she, her husband and another couple as well as going out to eat every couple of weeks.  So sorry that your bridge group is being devastated.  How nice of your grandson to take care of your outside windows and then spend precious time with you.  Loved your story about your son thinking your voice was God's.

Jeanne, your son certainly started driving at a young age.  I am sure he thought that was great fun.

Jane, you have a great way with words and word pictures.  My wife also has some of the "selective hearing".

deAngel, your experience with your panic button is why it is so important that folks living alone that are older have that great service.  Are you able to fix your own meals since you indicate you are so weak?

Good Morning Everyone!

Well it seems I came in right in the middle of some saucy talk.  Hey, Amy, you started it...... ;D

Well I am a little late, but had to balance the checkbook and see if I have any money left for my wife's homecoming tomorrow night.  Now I have to get to the grocery store and get some whole milk for her and my daughters tea when they get in and something to snack on.  I think I will get some BIG lemon/poppy seed muffins.  They make them in their own bakery and they are good.  They will be draggin when they get in, long trip, right at 6000 miles I would guess.

Haven't really stuck my nose out this morning so don't know what they weather is like out, just know it is hot and more than likely humid.

You folks make me envious talking about all you are canning/have canned.  I am curious about the mustard.  I thought mustard was harvested like wheat and some other grains, with a combine.  Or maybe you are talking about just buying the powder and mixing up your own.
Amy I do like the hot mustard (Colemans) and Asian style and you are right about one thing, too much and it will definitely clean the sinuses.  :P
I recall seeing a documentary film once about Mustard and one point made was how most Mustard is grown in the U.S. and then shipped to Europe for processing and sent back here as a finished product.

"Mustard has been a major specialty crop in North America since supplies from western Europe were interrupted by World War II. California and Montana were the major production areas until the early 1950s. Production of mustard in the Upper Midwest began in the early 1960s. Mustard is currently grown on approximately 250,000 acres annually in the United States. North Dakota has the largest share of domestic production. Canadian mustard production increased for twenty years until it peaked in the mid-1980s. Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan currently grow a large share of the world's mustard crop. The French people are the largest consumers of mustard (1.5 lbs/person/year), and buy approximately 70% of the annual Canadian production."

I'm doing my early "skimming" so didn't open a Word Pad to remember what each said.... but have to jump in and ask if the mustard powder is same as the DRY mustard I find in the spice aisle in our Kroger store.  I have one recipe (coleslaw) that calls for dry mustard and as a complete dummy with recipes, picked only thing I could find on the shelf.

Callie, was wondering where you have been.  My sincere sympathy for your friend AND all of you that are suffering with her.  You've been so active as a group, does takes the edge off the gatherings.

Gloria/linedancer, sounds like you know what to do when needed, and a lot of good friends willing to help.... I'm sure you've earned their caring & loyalty.  Your attitude probably has much to do with bouncing back, too.

Larry, all the bathroom doors we've had since the '60s have the pin holes to unlock.... with a straightened paper clip or most any thin object.  The RV bathroom has a key, sounded important when I bought because the salesman pointed out several times "the key was hanging inside the cabinet right next to the door on the outside".  I've never locked the door but that key is still there.

I did get by the County Extension Office yesterday, with a limb cut off the sweet gum tree, to see if the icky leaves are because I did not water for a couple weeks or if the tree has bugs.  They called back after the Master Gardener had a look, all thought probably web worms and no treatment needed.  I thought it might help to have sprayed before the webs enclosed the bugs, but not recommended.   We didn't have a hard enough winter to kill bugs so hopefully we will this year.

Hal, for sure a clean sink is a winner when the official cook returns!  Sounds like you have everything under control.  Those muffins will taunt me until I visit Sam's Club, they make some awesome ones, too.  All the men in my life (father, husband & sons) like hot mustard & flavored kinds.  I like a tad of plain old yellow kind, not too much.

Better get busy, I ran the pool vac already this morning & watered the front yard so far.  We didn't get enough rain to soak in, gave the leaves on the trees a bath but everything still thirsty.  Going to heat back up so want to enjoy the cooler temps while possible.
Hugs to all and have a happy day.  Shirley
