Messages - Oldiesmann
I'll try it again in Windows when I have a chance (I primarily use Linux) but I haven't been able to reproduce the issue at all in Chrome, although there is a recently discovered bug causing text to be dropped if there's an ampersand in the post (the ampersand and everything following it will get dropped from the preview).
I've removed the confirmation for marking posts as read from the message index.
Unfortunately I can't reproduce the issue with previewing posts. I tried it with 5 paragraphs worth of dummy text from lipsum.com - normal size, bold, size 7, etc. and each time it showed all of the text when I clicked preview.
What browser/operating system are you using? That will help me figure out if it's a browser issue or not.
Quote from: Marilyne on December 10, 2018, 11:40:13 pmMichael - I am again getting the pop-up box that says, Are you sure you want to mark messages as read? This happens every time I click on Mark all messages as read. I told you about it, and you removed it, but now its back. Can you please get rid of it once and for all? Also, my preview box is only showing a fragment of my messages, so I'm unable to proofread them.
I removed it for the main button on the board index. It must use different code for the one shown for each board. I'll take care of that when I get a chance and will also look into the issue with message previews when I have time.
I made some changes to the notifications code recently to fix the problem with duplicate notifications and such. It appears that the bug with the code (prior to my changes) caused it to miss things, so that's why you're suddenly getting old notifications. That should hopefully clear out soon.
I have no idea why it would only show part of the post when you click "preview". It's showing all of it for me.
Here's a lively one I stumbled across earlier...
"Christmas Comes But Once A Year (Christmas In Carrick)" by The Barra MacNeils
This was written by Seamus McGrath and originally recorded by Irish folk group The Clancy Brothers in 1969. This version was released in 1999. The Barra MacNeils are a Canadian celtic music group from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
The "show unread replies to your posts" feature is still there. It's just known as "updated topics" now.
Quote from: MarsGal on December 05, 2018, 07:34:29 amI'll be darn if I can figure out how I managed to get a "Message Icon" up at the top. I can't figure out how to turn it off, or show none. Just noticed it today. I wonder if this is a Shan the typing expert assistant insertion I hadn't noticed before? It was on Angry when I saw it. I see the things sometimes at the bottom other posts, mostly the thumbs up icon with he word Like beside it.
You can choose the message icon if you want by clicking on it and changing it, but there's no way to get rid of it entirely.
The thumbs up and the "Like" at the bottom are so you can "like" someone's post.
@mycheal Your time has been fixed
Quote from: Lloyd Hammond on November 27, 2018, 07:46:31 amANY no so far I have not got any email from you ( my email address is as folly's.)( bluweb37@gmail,com ) If my brain is thinking right today Gloria also wanted it go for it girls and have a good day.
Should be fixed now. I set the timezone based on what time you said it was in a later post in this topic (comparing that time with when the forum said that post was made)
Here's a classic from 1957. "There'll Always Be A Christmas" by The Ames Brothers
Quote from: Lloyd Hammond on November 26, 2018, 07:47:05 amaccording to my computer JaneS put us to bed and AMY got us up but no way to tell for sure the time clocks here are all out of seak. all wrong timeon them once again wish some one that knows how to would fix S & F format would fix it back to where it knew the correct time and where and when we come and go like it used to. it is 23 degrees out side and 65 down stairs and 72 up. so I am going after breakfast going to build a fire in the fireplace down stairs. we got yesterday about 2" of snow. hope you all have a good day.
Go to the top of the page. Click on your name, then click "Look and Layout". You'll see a "Time zone" setting there. Choose the appropriate time zone, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Change Profile". If you can't figure it out, let me know where you are or what time zone you're in and I'll adjust it for you
Quote from: Mary Ann on November 26, 2018, 12:54:53 pmMichael, I have something happening that is new. I do not use the Spell Check since I'm a pretty good speller. It isn't happening here in this message, but in the folders the red line starts when I type a word and continues until I am nearly finished with the word. It happens with every word.
That's the browser's built-in spellcheck feature, not the one here (the one here only works when you click the Spell Check button).
Quote from: angelface555 on November 26, 2018, 01:51:12 pmI finally after ten days, was able to post a photo in Pets. Please, could we have a simple basic explanation of size and compressing that all could understand and use, grafted into Attachments and other options? Also for some reason, in my posts, my IP address shows under my location. Since no one else seems to have that issue, I'm assuming hopefully that I'm the only one who sees it?
Your IP address only shows up for you and the administrators. It's hidden for guests and everyone else.
Quote from: so_P_bubble on November 26, 2018, 03:14:36 amI use size 3 and it seems ok.
I've edited the code to remove the confirmation when clicking that button.
I'm not sure what you mean about previous posts. When I try it in this topic, all of the previous posts show up regardless of which page I'm on when I click "Reply".
Quote from: Marilyne on November 25, 2018, 01:15:35 pmSomething I would like very much to get rid of! When I click on Mark all messages as read, on the forum, an annoying little box pops up on my screen that says "Are you sure you want to mark all messages as read?" Then you have to click yes or no, to make it go away. Is that supposed to be an upgrade? We got along fine without it in the past. Is there any way to get rid of that box forever?
Getting rid of that is just a simple code change, so I can do that if it's a huge deal. That was added to make sure people don't click that button by accident.
Quote from: jane on November 25, 2018, 10:14:05 amAny chance you can bump font size up to maybe a 4? People are having to code that each time they post in discussions I've seen. We have old eyes, Michael.
I can increase the default font size some more, but I'm not sure there's an easy way to make the default size "4" without affecting other things as well.
There shouldn't be many changes at all now. At this point most of the changes are just bug fixes and various improvements.
I think I've fixed it for the time being. There's a setting to resize images when showing them under posts (leftover from before inline attachments were a feature). Disabling that seems to prevent them from getting resized, so I'll leave that disabled for the time being.
Ok... It seems if the photos are over a certain size it displays them thumbnail size and you can click on them to view them full sized. I'll look at the settings and see what I can do to adjust that.
Testing with a photo I took of my cat recently...
You cannot see attachments on this board.
Quote from: angelface555 on November 22, 2018, 12:40:51 pmMichael, I would eliminate both of the "Add images to post and upload to the gallery. " My reason is that the code expects you bring a photo from somewhere else. And it is supposedly added to your gallery which from what I've heard it doesn't.
The attachments feature allows you to upload photos directly from your computer - you just have to click the big "Reply" button at the top/bottom of the page (above the first post and below the last post on the page) or click "Preview" from the "Quick Reply" box.
As far as the gallery thing goes, it does seem to upload it to your gallery but you still have to go there afterwards and copy the code to add it to your post. I'll remove the "Add image" links until that's fixed.
Quote from: JaneS on November 19, 2018, 09:36:22 pmWell, I can't figure out how to change the time so I'm giving up and putting stuff away, letting the dogs out and going to bed early. Tomorrow is another day...a busy one!
I've fixed it for you
If anyone else is having trouble, let me know and I'll set it for you.
Quote from: so_P_bubble on November 21, 2018, 12:34:38 pmI still get some but not in the hundreds like before
I wish I knew what was causing that. I changed it to only send out notifications once every 5 minutes so it shouldn't be flooding you. Also, you should be able to just leave the height and width at "auto" when inserting the image into your post. You only have to fill that out if you want to show it a certain size.
Quote from: angelface555 on November 21, 2018, 01:45:23 pmIt would be beneficial to remove the "Add image to post and upload to gallery" line from the inside of the message block and it is unnecessary as it is listed below anyway. It is distracting as it is now.
I'm looking into that still. Has anyone verified whether that works with the new version at all? If not I can remove the feature altogether until it's updated.
I've tweaked a couple of settings so hopefully the email flood will stop now. Let me know if it continues.
I'm wondering if it's related to the auto-refresh feature of the shoutbox, as this isn't happening on the other site I recently upgraded and we don't use the shoutbox feature there. I'll look into disabling that and see if it helps at all.
Quote from: Mary Ann on November 19, 2018, 05:03:48 pmMarilyn, don't hold your breath on them leaving this scene up. I do think it will change back and forth.
I'm not entirely sure why the thing that jumps to the latest post in a topic isn't working at the moment, but will look into that when I can.
The time should be correct for you - your profile shows your timezone set at Eastern Standard Time, which is the correct timezone for Grand Rapids.
The link for unread posts is at the top of the page on the right side directly below the menu.
The upgrade added a lot of features (drafts, likes, mentions, etc.) and a new look that works well regardless of the screen size of the device you're browsing from among other things.
I hang around and chat every now and then. I usually don't stick around too much as I'm much younger than everyone else here, but I've been sticking around longer lately to help with any issues arising from the recent update
Found this yesterday. Hard to believe none of these people are around anymore.
Quote from: Shirley on November 19, 2018, 07:43:42 amJust want to see if this part still works, but I can't find all my crazy faces & the extras, I love the one pulling out the tissue & crying, fits the bill lots of time.
They're all still there - just not on the quick reply by default. You can click "Preview" after typing the text in the quick reply box or just click the blue and white "REPLY" button at the bottom of the post to access the full editor. If you do want them there all the time even on quick reply, go to the "Look & Layout" section of your profile (click your name in the top left then click "Look & Layout") and check the "Use full editor toolbar in Quick Reply" box, then save the changes.
My real name is indeed Michael. Feel free to call me whichever one you want
I'm not sure what the problem is with that unfortunately
Quote from: Cottoncandy on November 18, 2018, 08:36:47 pmWhen I click on the colored red squares....the words show...not the color CC
Right. It should insert "" into the post box. You put your text in between the first ] and the second [.
