Key West is a lovely place to live.  My late husband, a Navy Pilot, was stationed there for 18 months in the late 60's and we lived in Navy Housing on the water.  Our 3 sons loved to fish, use their drag net to try to catch fish off the pier and use their fishing poles, too.  I had a small sail boat that I sailed up and down our little inlet and enjoyed the sunshine.  We joined a local church and made a lot of civilian friends as well as other Navy friends in our neighborhood.  Key West was one of our favorite duty stations.  Needless to say, we ate lots of fish, too!

Good morning, Buddies.  Jane, I hope you're pain free today.  Nothing worse than joint pain.

It's sunny here after a lot of rain yesterday afternoon and most of the night.  I need to get outside and pick up downed limbs and other bits of stuff that need to go to the curb.  My trash pick up has already been here, but I'd like to get the rest of it down to the curb today.

I'm expecting Tim sometime this morning and also Joe, my "bug" guy.  Tim is usually here by now and Joe told me he'd be here about 11:00.  He sprays inside and out and keeps the bugs out of my house.  He was traveling all winter and this is the first time he's sprayed since late last October.

I have the usual laundry and tidying up to do today.  Other than that, will continue reading a detective mystery I started yesterday.

Have a good day, Every Buddy.

Good late afternoon, Buddies.  I went to SS and church this morning with Olyne.  Afterwards I didn't change out of my church clothing as Frederissa and her hubby were coming to pick me up for a gathering of Seniors who like me use their service for trips to hair cuts, groceries, doctor's appointments, etc.  It costs $250/annually and that is a real bargain for most people.  I only use it for hair cuts, dermatologist visits, dental visits and occasional shopping to pick something up at Wal Mart or Big Lots.  Tim wants to go to doctor's appointments with me and we go to lunch out on Friday, then he takes me to the library and to Kroger.

The gathering was very nice and the hosts new home was very spacious and beautifully decorated.  We had a buffet of interesting dishes including desserts and hors' (sp?) doreves.  All were delicious and I won't have to fix a supper dish for myself this evening.  (Sharon you probably know all about correcting my mistakes!)

I hope you've all had a nice day.  It was raining cats and dogs when we left the party and my sweater and pants were wet despite using my umbrella.  I have things spread out all over the kitchen and laundry room.

I'll be back tomorrow, Buddies.

Good morning, Buddies.  It's almost noon here and I have accomplished very little this morning.  I had a good time at the reception/gathering at Kiesel Park in the renovated home which will now be the Heritage Association's meeting place.  Libba and her son are also members and they picked me up and brought me home.  The Association had lots of displays of historical items as well as wine and goodies for guests.  There were some auction items, but they didn't seem to be selling, so don't know how that came out.  The weather was pleasant and Libba and I sat on the large front porch most of the time.  A 5 piece band played outside and a number of tables were available for people who wanted to bring their food and drinks outside.

I had a late breakfast and then had a pretty good walk.  I'm caught up on laundry and don't have much I must do today, so will probably take one of my new library books out on my deck after lunch and read.  I really need to clean up more oak leaves!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Good morning, Buddies.  It's 9:15 this morning and I have finished breakfast, but still need to clean up the kitchen.  I'm expecting Tim about 10:30 to go to the library, out to an early lunch, and then grocery shopping at Kroger.  I have a party this afternoon:  5:00 until 7:00.  Libba's son will take us and drop us off (she's had a fall and isn't driving yet) and I'm assuming he will come back and pick us up or we will get a ride home from friends at the party.  This party is sponsored by the Auburn Heritage Foundation which helps to preserve and maintain historic homes here in Auburn.

Ugh, Jane, on the freezing temps and icy streets.  Your stay at home activities sound just like the ticket for a pleasant day inside.  Don't work too hard--just enjoy the day!

Sharon, how was the luncheon yesterday?  I'm glad Frances' daughter finally recognized all the help you and other neighbors gave her.  I always thought she could have been more helpful/loving to her mother.  You certainly gave Ms. Frances a lot of your time, love, and attention.

Mary, I think our high yesterday was about 80*.  I played bridge and Ethel had her AC on, so I was glad I wore a sweater.  I don't like really cool rooms, but almost everyone else wore short sleeves or light weight tops.  I won second place--got 3 quarters which I put into my quarter jar.  We're really high stakes players here in Auburn!

Marilyn, it's good to hear that Keith is enjoying being outside and doing some yard work.  I can understand about how frustrating it might be for both of you--since my fall, my short term memory has declined and thanks to Tim, we write everything down on my calendar every week so that I can get to where I need to go.  When someone calls me to invite me somewhere, I write it on the calendar immediately.  Tim always checks my calendar on Mondays and Fridays when he stops by to check on me.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

I played bridge yesterday afternoon at Ethel's.  I had pretty good cards and good partners and won second prize--75 cents!  I put the quarters in my quarter jar as the next time I'm hostess, I'll have to give out quarters.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up, showered but not yet dressed for the garden club meeting which will be here at my home at 1:30.  I still have to fix a few goodies for snacking, but am not knocking myself out on that.

It's sunny here, but still chilly--at least the last time I went outside.  I want to cut a few flowers to put on my kitchen table, but otherwise I'm mostly ready for the members to arrive about 1:30.  I am presenting a program about birding and hope members participate.  I have a 10 question quiz which I'm hoping members will respond to.  Also have a lot of bird books, some from foreign travel, and are interesting to me, but who knows what these women will think.  I haven't turned on the weather channel and don't know the outside temperature, but it feels chilly to me.  I need to go outside and cut a few flowers for my kitchen table where I'll place cookies and other snacks.

Joy, I could almost build a fire in my fireplace, but I think my guests would be too warm by 1:30 this afternoon.  I haven't looked at the weather channel to see what the afternoon will bring.

Darlene, I hope you have a safe trip to your daughters home.  I know you'll enjoy a few days with her and her family.

Jane,  I'm sorry about your continued wintry weather.  I hope spring arrives there and soon!

Sharon, I spent several hours trying to clean up pollen on my driveway and my deck out back.  I have so many oak trees and the pollen strings are everywhere!  I'll be glad when it's all gone.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Good morning, Buddies.  It's chilly here again this morning with wind gusts.  I plan to work inside but would like to get outside if the wind subsides to get more leaves down to the curb.  I have one load of laundry in the dryer and one more to do.  I'm expecting Tim some time this morning.  He usually stops by for a short while just to see if I'm alive and kicking!

I hope every Buddy is feeling well today.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been out to SS and Church and have rice on to boil.  I have leftover eggplant/tomato, peppers casserole which I can planning to put onto the rice for my Sunday lunch.

It's raining here this morning, temperature is 54* right now at almost 12:30.  And it's still drizzling a bit of rain.  I'm planning to eat lunch, clean up the kitchen, and lie down with one of my new library books this afternoon.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  Alpiner, it's good to see you here today.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up for almost 2 hours and am still in my P.J.'s!  I need to put on my work clothes and go outside and get more leaves raked and down to the curb as well as do some weed pulling and pruning of my azaleas.  Most of them have finished blooming--but I must tell you they have been gorgeous this year.  I think the snow/cold weather helped them.

Yesterday I sent some e-mail notices to Garden Club members I could not reach by phone.  I still have no idea how many will attend the meeting.  I need to organize the program (about birds and birding).  I have a number of bird books from several foreign countries as most of the tours I took included walks where birds were featured.  I have a 10 question quiz which I will give and need to get a small gift for the winner.

Not much else going on here today.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Just a quickie to say good night!  Tim and I went to Brick Oven Pizza for a calzone (for him) and a large slice of pizza for me and we both had a bottle of Corona.  Then we went to the library so I could get books to read during this next week.  And after that we made my Kroger run.  So I'm good for another week.

I've been calling Garden Club members this afternoon.  The meeting will be at my house on Wednesday afternoon.  I wasn't able to reach everyone today, so left phone messages and e-mails with one reply.  I hope I hear from more tomorrow.

Sleep well tonight, Buddies.

Happy birthday, Jeanne!  Enjoy your special day.

I've been working in my yard this morning and am pooped!  I've pulled several buckets of weeds and oak seedlings--a constant nuisance in my yard with lots of oak trees.  Since lunch I've been reading and answering mail.

I need to call members of my garden club to remind them of the meeting to be held at my house next Wednesday, but will leave that for tomorrow.  I need a lie down with a book after my morning workout!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been reading the paper, going through old mail I should have thrown out last week, and procrastinating!  I am going to put on my walking clothing and go out to walk.  It's sunny, but still cool, although supposed to be warmer after lunch.  Terri will pick me up about 12:40 to go to bridge at Carolyn's house.  I am having a harder time each morning getting going.  Just too lazy to get started!

I hope your cataract surgery goes well, Darlene.  It's made a huge difference in my eye sight.  I only wear dime store readers late in the evening if the print on the book I'm reading is on the small side.  It seems to be needed when I have to turn on a reading lamp in my bedroom.

GinnyAnn, I'm so glad to see your post this morning.  I hope your health is improving.  Keep us posted!

Sharon, I think you'll be happy with the cataract surgery.  It's been almost 15 years since I had mine and my vision is still really good.  No problems with my eyes since then.    My cleaning ladies are licensed and bonded.  They usually arrive between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m.  They work for the Molly Maids franchise.

Jane, I hope you're having some warmer weather today--and NO MORE SNOW!

Mary, I'm with you on doing anything to keep my sight.  I have annual check ups with my eye doctor and am always happy when he gives me the OK. I still have a spot on the retina in my left eye, but I now my ophthalmologist thinks I've had it all my life and it doesn't seem to bother my vision.  I'm only wearing glasses (OTC readers) if the print is extremely small and the light beside my bed doesn't seem bright enough.

Jane, I hope your weather is warmer today.  We have lots of sunshine, but quite a breeze, so I'll have to wear my heavier jacket when I walk shortly.  It's supposed to get warmer tomorrow and for the weekend.

I've already sent in the first of my quarterly payments to the IRS.  My investments paid well this year, so I'm owing more.  Yuck!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

We had a black lady who brought her young granddaughter with her when she cleaned.  She was the same age as my youngest sister and Mozelle often put them in the same bathtub together.  We thought nothing of it!  Mozelle was like a member of our family.

Sue

P.S.  A few years ago there was a great movie (IMO) about a young white woman with "airs" who had a black cleaning lady/nursemaid who was more of a mother to her young daughter than she was.  She was terribly rude and obnoxious to the maid who stayed because she loved the little girl.  Olympia somebody was the friend of the maid and another well known black actress was the maid who loved the child. I can't remember Olympia's name, but she is a graduate of Auburn University here in Auburn.  Olympia was one of the women who portrayed the black women who cracked WWII codes for the FBI or CIA.

I also enjoyed the 2 night series about the career and assassination of M.L. King on PBS last week.  Very accurate as to happenings in Alabama.  I didn't live here at the time as my husband was still training for  active duty as a Navy pilot, but of course we heard about it.  His mother was a secretary at a firm in downtown Montgomery and had been riding a bus to work, but resigned her position after the Rosa Parks incident because white men/women attacked the busses with rocks.

A friend from our church was related to the prominent white lawyer who represented Mrs. Parks in her suit.

It's noon here and I've had a nice lunch of leftovers from the mentoring I did last evening.  I had 7 freshmen, most were swimmers, one was from Berlin, Germany.  At first they were shy and didn't ask many questions, but after I talked a bit about my experiences as an elementary teacher, they began to ask questions and we had a nice conversation.  If they stay in Elementary Ed., I will probably see them throughout their years in El. Ed.  They are all on sports scholarships at AU.

After our sessions with students, we mentors were invited upstairs to a delicious meal with wine and dessert where those still employed by AU talked about upcoming retirement and one woman was new but scheduled to be a Dean (but I forget which department--probably education).

Molly Maids came for my bi-weekly house cleaning and Tim arrived before they were finished, so we sat out on my deck in the sunshine until they left.  I had a Circle meeting this morning, but couldn't attend because of the Molly Maids.

I've done a bit of weeding outside but plan to read most of the rest of the afternoon.  I hope all are feeling well and having a good day.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm dressed, showered, and ready for my ride to the dermatologist.  She'll be here in about 15 minutes, so this will be a quickie.  I'm expecting the Derm to burn off some more spots on my face, which is a pain--and I have to attend book club at 3:00 and am mentoring female athletes at 5:30--with a dinner afterwards with the other mentors.  So busy day here.  I have Circle meeting in the morning, but I'm going to skip it--my usual ride is going with someone closer to the meeting place and Tim is going to come by on Tuesday, plus I think it's time for my cleaning ladies tomorrow.  I'll get a phone reminder this afternoon.

I hope Every Buddy has a good day.  I wish our weather were nicer as I'm thinking I won't get a walk today.

Good morning, Buddies.  It's really noon here right now, but I slept late this morning as it was dark and drizzly outside.  After I ate breakfast, I did go out on my deck and swept up the wet leaves and took them down to the curb.  AU is having their A-Day football game this afternoon and will be on our athletic channel, so I might watch that.  I went to the library yesterday after Tim, Kris, and I had lunch and picked up books to read this week.  So I will probably spend the rest of the day inside and read.

GinnyAnn, it's great to hear from you.  I hope you recover soon from all the dental work.  Come back soon to keep us posted!  BIG HUGS!

Mary, I've been meaning to ask if you have been having pain in your feet and if you need a special foot orthotic on that foot.  I hope you're feeling OK.  I think you've said you've been driving, so hope that's not giving you trouble.

Darlene, I am allergic to bees and have to call my "Bug guy" when I see any.  I keep an EPI pen here  in case I happen to be stung.  And they have to be turned back in to the pharmacy if I don't use a pen during the year.  They then give me a refill.

Marilyn, I hope you'll post a picture of your new hairdo.  It sounds pretty!

Jeanne, it sounds like you lucked out with the new neighbors.

Sharon, do I remember correctly that you are a Methodist?  My Presbyterian SS class uses a Series called the Present Word.  This spring our lessons are on the theme "Acknowledging God".  Unit 1 was in the O.T.   Unit 2 which started on Easter Sunday is "All Glory and Honor" and is from the N. T.   Unit 3 is "Give Praise to God" and returns to the O. T.   There are 2 authors of this quarter's lessons--both are Presbyterian Ministers--one is retired.

I need to fix lunch.  My plan for the afternoon is to read one of my library books I picked up yesterday after lunch with Tim and Kris.

Sue (P.S.  AU is playing their A-Day game this afternoon.  I might watch a bit of it.)

My husband and I attended U. of South Carolina during the 50's.  We loved to dance and he was an officer in the Intra-Fraternity Council.  Twice a year they paid Big Bands to play at Fraternity Dances.  We were photographed standing at the bandstand when Tommy Dorsey was playing favorite 40's tunes.  Bob especially loved Glenn Miller and I still have his Glenn Miller limited edition album.  I think my sons may sell it when I pass on to "hopefully" my reward, but they might haggle over it!

After Bob retired, we joined the small local "country" club in our town.  They often had dances and the kids I'd taught in high school didn't really dance (this was the 70's).  They just sort of stood there and waved their arms in the air.  Some of the girls asked us to give dance lessons, but by that time Bob had his first bout of cancer and didn't feel up to it.  We still preferred big band dance tunes from the 40's--although we were college students in the mid-50's.

I have Spectrum TV and they have about 20-25 music stations of all genre's.  When there is nothing I want to watch on TV, I turn to their channel 948 which is classical music.  Sometimes if I feel like dancing by myself, I turn to their 40's and 50's pop music channels.  Very little TV programming appeals to me, although I do have a few favorites.

It rained here last night and my deck was full of wet leaves this morning--and still drizzling a bit.  I went out side and swept up the wet leaves and took 3 trugs full down to the curb.  If the wind blows, I'll have even more on my deck tomorrow.  My yard pickup is on Monday, so I'll probably clean more out of the back yard tomorrow.  Hopefully we will have some sunny weather after church!

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast, read the paper, and cleaned up the kitchen.  I have a load of wash in and hope to get it dried before Tim gets here for our lunch/Kroger shopping/library stop date.  I need to do another load, but will wait until we get home from our errands.

Bridge was fun yesterday although I had so/so cards.  This group is very congenial and although Ethel was unable to come because of dental extractions, our favorite younger sub was able to play with us and everyone had a good time.

Sharon, I'm glad your eye surgery went well last week and hope the next eye goes well, too.  I haven't taught SS in quite a while.  We had a SS member, a male, who was retiring from AU and wanted to teach--we thought as a sub, but he has taken full responsibility for teaching and I am no longer the teacher.  A relief in some ways, but the older members would like me to teach again--I don't think that will happen!

Jane, It's nice to have a relaxing day sometimes.  I have lots of them unless I make myself go outside and get busy!  Yuck on the snow, though.

Marilyn, you are one busy lady.  I'm sure your work with dogs is much appreciated--and I know you enjoy it!

Hi to all Buddies looking in.  I hope spring is or has come your way.  Have a great day, Every Buddy.

I've spent a few mornings cleaning up yard debris and have weeded my little garden bed which is enclosed in cinder blocks.  I'll look for tomato plants and bean seeds for that area soon.  The tomatoes will need some warmer weather before I plant, but the beans can probably go into the ground soon.

I have a lot of oak trees in my yard and also in my neighbor's yards so there are many oak leaves down.  I need to spend a couple of days raking and taking them down to my leaf pile to compost.

I hope other gardeners drop in soon and tell us what they are growing or planning to grow!

It's chilly here, too, Buddies, but expected to warm up this afternoon.  I've been outside for an hour pulling weeds and clearing out my flower beds.  I'm inside now getting ready for bridge here at 12:30.  I put the tables up yesterday and am now trying to tidy up books, etc. that I always seem to have all over the place.  Will also put out cups for coffee and glasses for tea and/or water and bottled coke for those who'd like that.

I had to get a sub on Monday as Ethel called and told me that she was having 2 teeth pulled yesterday and didn't feel like she'd want to play bridge yet.  Diana, our favorite sub is coming in her place.

I need to get into the shower and dress and finish my chores.  Have a nice day, Buddies.

Have any of you been watching the PBS special "And Now We Rise"  written and edited by Henry Louis Gates?  The last segment was on this evening--very enlightening about the struggles of Black Americans.

Rammel, my PBS radio station is located at Troy University south of Auburn where I live.  The station is run by Troy State students and is on daily from 7:00 a.m.  through the late night hours.  The station number is 89.9.  Columbus, Georgia, which is not far from Auburn also has a radio station in the low 80's--don't remember their station number, but sometimes I can get it on my radio.  The Troy station runs PBS news programs all day long and has music in the late evenings.  Perhaps if you have station numbers in the 80's you may have a similar station.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'd planned more yard work for today, but it is rainy and dreary here this morning and unless it brightens up, I'll probably work inside today.  Not much to do, though, as my cleaning ladies were here last week and floors were cleaned along with everything else.

I have an Amazon account and Bill and Jon's wives send me gift certificates from there, which is really nice as I can buy used books which are selections for my book club--at a reasonable price.  I also buy children's books in December to take to my book club's Christmas gifts to schools which need library books for primary grade readers.  I choose books which my former primary grade students loved to read and to also listen after lunch before getting back to work!

Have a nice day, Buddies.
