Marilyne,  that's funny about the coat/court pronunciation. When we first moved to Colorado, I called a new friend and her daughter answered the phone.  I asked, "Is your mother there?"  She turned and said,  "Mom, it's Mrs. ...."  I wondered how she knew who I was until I remembered how many "r's" there were in my sentence.  It probably sounded like "Is yoah mothah theah?" to her.

Jenny,  sounds like exciting times in your family!

We've had unusual October weather the past few days - more like April.  I think the last count was more than 20-25 tornadoes across the state since Saturday; most of them were "pop-up" twisters that just happened without warning. Fortunately, none seriously affected my family or me but there was quite a bit of damage in the areas of touch-downs.

First round was Sunday evening.  I was keeping up with the radar via my Tablet but nothing was coming my way so I was watching Hallmark on tv using my t.v. ears and didn't hear the rain and wind that this area did get.  Monday morning, I discovered one of the trellis-planters on my patio had blown over and the pilot light on my hot water heater was out. Tech who came to fix it said it was probably the wind.  He showed me how to do it but I don't think I can get down far enough to see the dials.

Another round was "way out west" last night and weather gurus said it would probably reach OKC between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. this morning.  I awoke about 4:15 so checked t.v. and discovered that a "pop-up" twister had just touched down in a southwest suburb and was tracking across the middle of OKC - including the state capitol.  I stayed with the broadcast until the circulation had moved east of I=35 and then went back to bed.  It was sunny when I woke up again and has remained so all day.
Hope it stays that way!!!!

I've been reading a lot lately and should go over to the Library and "report in".

Hope it's been an Enjoyable Day for Everyone.

Callie, you mention "trellis planters" on your patio.  I'm trying to find a certain type of trellis that sits in a planter. I have a picture of it somewhere, and I'll try to send it to you so I can see if what you have is what I'm looking for.  Probably be tomorrow before I can locate and copy the picture here.

Glad the tornadoes didn't get you.  (Congrats on OU winning the "Big Game")
.

Tomereader1

Callie, I found the picture, but can't get it to copy/paste to this forum.  If you'll PM me your email, I think I can send it that way.  My computer skills are so very poor.

Marilyne - Pretty funny even in writing!  ;D  I got my flu shot at my doctor's but Chape hasn't had his yet. He'll probably get it at Publix (grocery store) They're giving all the vaccines now, including Shingles.

Callie - I remember those times of sitting up half the night watching the Doppler radar. The night that Midwest City was hit so hard we had a take cover warning. I spent three hours in our half-cellar but couldn't coax our Lab mix, Lucy, to join me. I had a radio with me and some magazines. Chape was traveling home from Texas on I-35. No cell phones then and all I could do is worry! He passed by the big Xerox Plant and Love Gas Station that were mostly destroyed. The tornado touched down at the Outlet Mall, then up and over me in Bristow, before it hit Sapulpa and Tulsa. That was a wild night!

Michael called us this morning with some very bad news. Jennifer's father drives up to their camp in the woods every day and goes for a walk. He fell, hitting his face, and the impact snapped his head in such a way that his spine was nearly severed. He was alone but someone found him shortly. This left him a quadriplegic with a breathing tube. Mid- afternoon Michael called again to say Jack had passed away. He's about my age. Our family is so saddened by this. Their family and Chape's family have been lifelong friends.

Will try to be more cheerful tomorrow!

Good night all.

Duplicated: Time UK 1.30 lunchtime, not long back from my morning church hall games- teas and prayer, followed by church lunch club in the adjoining hall, now home for 45 minutes then out to the other church on my mobility scooter where i will be joining the church group meeting on a talk about items we had in our childhood days, mentioning to bring items in if you have any...this meeting - talk should be interesting...Wish i had kept our old coal fire toasting fork and black iron we heated over a flame on the cooker.....

Jenny - Sounds like a wonderful day! How did you like the recumbent bike?

We agree. It was a blessing that he didn't linger in that condition. Because of the breathing tube he couldn't speak but could move his head for yes or no. His daughters were with him. Their mother passed away last year with Alzheimers.

I spent about two hours on the phone with my daughter, Lauri, tonight. She was driving back to Maine from Vermont as she has to work tomorrow. She's seriously considering moving to Vermont since all her children and her three new grandchildren are there.

Good morning Jackie!

I'm up way too late. Good night all.

Denver

Good evening ‼️

I went to the pool this afternoon...it was FABULOUS....rode the recumbent bike.  Then in the pool for an hour then hot tub.....more of a work out than any physical therapy I've had. I probably will be good and sore tomorrow, but feel quite good right now‼️. Did not swim per se, rather just moved my arms and legs....was able to stretch my sore leg real good.....big marching steps!  It was so great! I am feeling really good about it😘

BEVERLY, I am sad to read your news however it seems God did the best for him under the circumstances.  What a shock for the family🙏

JACKIE, I hope you enjoyed the afternoon fun session about things we grew up with!  What did you end up taking?  Sounds fun.

CALLIE, I saw you were having some doozie of storms headed your way.  Our Arkansas Family nearly floated away, they had so much rain.

Pleasant dreams to ALL, and good morning to you, JACKIE, when you come in.

Jenny...
...i am here, posting just 3 minutes after your above post...time here in UK is 5.26 am...Sadly i did not have anything to take in but told them of my memories... it was an interesting couple of hours as we looked at items that we - i remembered using...

...Good on your achievement in the pool yesterday but, you might feel some bodily aches and pains this morning after your water exercise which would be expected, but, the more you do it the better it will get, less aches....

Jenny it is a good morning from me, and a good night to you..

A message about RAMMEL- Rick
A note to let you all know that Rick's wife, Diana, has  passed away.  She had been in a rehab hospital since April, after falling and injuring her head.  She passed peacefully, on October 10.
No funeral service, but a viewing will be held Sunday, followed by a private burial service.

Rick will be back with us next week, or whenever he feels ready to return. This message was posted with Rick's approval

Tomereader1

Loving thoughts and prayers to Rick.

Beverly

I'm so sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with Rammel.

Marilyne - Thanks for letting us know

My condolences RICK for the passing of your Wife Diana. You are missed and we all will welcome you back when you are ready to join us again.  Thoughts and prayers for you.

Thank you, MARILYN and JACKIE for letting us know.  As we all know it is still a shock when our loved ones pass even if we know it is coming.

We are enjoying a beautiful day.  Windows are open to refresh our air.  We still have a lot of colors in our trees 🌳

Our Arkansas Son, Mark was part of the SEC chain gang today at the Arkansas / Auburn Game. He called and sent several pictures and videos.  He sure had a wonderful time.  His group was escorted in and out of the stadium by the local police with sirens to and from the hotel where they all gathered!  Crazy🤪. The second the game ended they ran as fast as they could to the tunnel to get out of there.....this included the refs also.  There were drinks dumped on them and bad words flying .....guess they needed the police escort out‼️

BEVERLY, I just remembered that you asked me about the recumbent bike.  I liked it.....it was a bit harder to get adjusted than I thought, but once I got a good position I did pretty well.  For sure future rides will work well for me.  I can  not believe how one time in the pool stretching, riding like on a bike in the water did such miracles for me.  We are going back tomorrow morning before football starts!

I hope ALL enjoyed their Saturday.

Duplicated: not long back home from morning church...another couple of hours and i will be back there for a monthly group meet-up which i am now part of the group...so this will be new to me..

Marilyne

Good morning everyone:  The weeks go by so quickly now, that seems I barely blink, and another one is gone and a new one has arrived!  All the many things I  didn't accomplish last week,  now moved forward with high hopes!

Jackie -  So glad that you have found a church that is making you feel welcome and has invited you to join the monthly meet-up group.  This will give you something special to look forward to.

Sandy -  Thank you for posting the video of, "I'll Never Find Another You".  I had forgotten all about The Seekers, and that love song from the 1960's.  Lots of meaningful songs written back then.

Jenny -  Looks like your son Mark and friends had lots of fun at the Arkansas/Auburn game, with their "Chain Gang" stunt.  ;D    It's so nice to see a group of young adults having a good time!    Everyone is so grim and serious now, in our country.  Seems that most people have totally lost their sense of humor.

A special 'good morning' to Callie, MarsGal, Joanne and Beverly!  I'm hoping that Rick will be joining us again in S&F, as soon as he feels like posting.

MARILYN, I am not sure if you and others know what "the chain gang" at a football game really is!  Here is what I looked up.

In gridiron football, the chain crew (commonly known as the "chain gang") is a crew that manages signal poles on one of the sidelines. The chain crew, under the direction of the head linesman/down judge, signals the officials' decisions; it does not make decisions.

It was an honor for Mark to be asked to be a part of this group.  It is an event that he will never forget.

JACKIE, I, too, am so pleased that you have found your nitch in this church group.  Happy that you have things to look forward to.

I am off to the pool.  Have a wonderful Sunday.

Jenny et al,  Re: the "chain crew/gang":     Look for the guys along the sideline with a 10-feet long chain, attached to poles, who move it in the direction the team with the ball is going and mark the yardline where the ball is placed and the yardline where the team has to try and take it in 4 tries.  ;)  The yardlines are numbered by 10's -with the 50 yardline half way between the goals.

When I was about 7 or 8 (long before t.v.) my Dad taught me to follow a game on the radio by drawing the yardlines on a box lid and having me move a red checker (for OU, naturally  ;) ) and a black checker for the opponent up and down the field as the announcer commented.

Great for Mark to be part of the AR/Auburn game!  I'm appalled at the crowd behavior these days - particularly at college games!

Yes, we had 3 days of "doozie" storms -- 28 tornadoes were confirmed across Oklahoma during two of them and 100+ mph straight winds were recorded in the 3rd one.  Damage path for all of these were across the southern edge of OKC and suburbs. Most had been hit hard last year by ice storms, as well.  Quite a few businesses and homes are having to be literally replaced for a second time.
Fortunately, neither my sons' homes nor mine were affected.

Now we're in a stretch of wonderfully crisp sunny Fall days -  my favorite time of the year.

Jackie,  I, too, am thrilled that you have found a church home with such nice activities PLUS help in getting there and back home.

Good to see several getting ready to go to church.  I'm still "attending" via live video and have noticed that there aren't very many attending in person, yet.  The weekly Order Of Worship comes via e-mail every Friday and I print it out. So I'm able to participate in the responses and follow along with the Bible readings.  (Don't ask if I sing along with the hymns.  :sealedlips:  ;D )

Marilyne, I agree that time goes by so quickly!  And, yet, I'd have a hard time answering if I were asked what I'm doing to  make it do so.  Nothing very useful - that's for sure!  :D

Vanilla-Jackie

Callie..do you " sing along with the hymns " well somebody had to ask you... ;D

For those of you who have Facebook:
I belong to lots of groups on Facebook, that reflect my interests or hobbies, but my daughter told me about one that is totally different that I am hooked on, and thought that some of you may want to take a look.

It's called:
View From My Window.  Someone's Little Corner of Our World    Members take a picture from a window in their house, or from a deck, balcony or glass slider, and post the photo, and the location.  The pics are so interesting, beautiful, and personal, from countries all around the World . . . Australia, UK, Thailand, Hong Kong, Canary islands , Spain, etc.  It's an open group, so you can scroll through and look at the posts/pictures without joining the group.  Highly recommended for a totally different outlook on life.

I'm catching up after a couple of days.  So sorry to hear about Rick's wife passing.

Rick, my heartfelt condolences.

We are getting a little fall weather.  It is heat in the morning and AC in the afternoons.  It will soon be no AC.  Larry and I have allergies so can't open the windows to enjoy the fresh air.  Spring is worse but right now it is ragweed pollen.

I have been reading a series of historical novels taking place in the late 1800s that have been so interesting that I forget to check into S&F.  In fact Larry and I have both been staying up too late reading and then sleeping late.

Jackie, you sure are staying busy since you moved.  That's good.

I hardly Check my Facebook, but That site you mentioned, Marilyne, sounds interesting.

Callie, I'm glad you weren't hit with any of the tornadoes.  Larry has a brother living in Tulsa.  Several years ago his church received quite a bit of damage from a tornado.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

MarsGal

Jean, if you are interested, you might want to try Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner. It is an historical novel based on real people (Mary Hallock Foote, husband, et.al.)  Basically, it is about a wife who follows her husband, an engineer, out west and writes and draws about her experiences for publications back East. They travel around the West and Mexico, often living in mining towns, and eventually ended up in Idaho. I really liked the book. It covers the late 1800's and into the early 1900's.

Good  Morning from the cool (60's)
Rocky Coast of Maine.

Fall weather is so special here in
Maine.  Not too  hot, nor too cold.
Just perfect for me.  But this kind
of favorable weather for me does not last
too long before Winter takes over,
with snow, sleet,  icey cold and all
those holidays,  and very short days.

But now I should not complain, so I
won't.    All is well here and I am
lucky to be feeling very good.

The covid days are moving right along
but I still wear a mask even though
I have had three Covid shots.

I do my duty and stay away from those
that don't ...

Life is good

Bless everyone.

Sandy, Would love to enjoy your fall and see all the beautiful colors of Autumn.  I love the Florida winter but sure do miss a northern fall.

As I mentioned before I lived
in Florida Full time for
seven yeaars so I completely
understand the love of Florida
Winters and the love of the
three other seasons here
in New England.

Each area has their pros and
cons... but family living in
New England called me home and
I am happy to be here  in
Portland Maine.
