Sharon...yes, the company is very helpful and generous.  I thought we would be treating everyone for food and drinks, etc., but not the case. They've spread the costs around so we're very fortunate.  They're all off to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center.  It turns out Alexandra spent 9 weeks in Greece while in undergrad school working at a sea turtle rescue place there.  I'm sure the people here will be interested in her experiences there, too.

Nothing much going on for us.  We all met for breakfast at a nearby favorite place.  Tonight the boys are doing a taco bar thing ...bought all the needed and will be doing all the cooking, etc.   :smitten:

Weather is changing and the joints are bothering me, so I"m glad they all help themselves and go out and do their things.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I had a late night reading and am still not dressed, but need to shower, shampoo, and dress shortly.  I'll probably read more after that.  I need to tidy up in my den as I think my cleaning ladies will be coming on Monday or Tuesday this week.  I'll get a call on their behalf on Monday a.m.

I turned the page here and have forgotten already what was posted.  Jane, I'm glad the company is being so agreeable and also helpful so that you and Ray, especially, are not overwhelmed.  It sounds like you're having a good time.

I think we're going to have rain today--it's cloudy and I need to check the weather channel to see how much rain we'll have.  I have a good book going and will probably stay inside and read as well as watch a few basketball games today.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

SharonE

Hi Gals.  Marilyn, I will email the name & phone # of the pharmacy in a few minutes.

Mary, I keep forgetting that it is the dark mornings keeping you from swimming.  Forgive my sluggish brain.

Jane, I'm so glad to hear that your guests are good guests and taking care of everything. The sea turtles sound interesting.

Sue, enjoy your books and games this afternoon.  IU lost last night unfortunately.

I guess I didn't mention it yesterday, but I got up yesterday morninng with a full-blown cold, dripping, sneezing, blowing and feeling terrible. None of my usual things worked, so I sent an email to my Dr. on our health portal and he phoned in an RX for a new nasal spray which seems to be helping. At least I'm not dripping and sneezing.  I still feel like death warmed over though. I did order the SoClean attachment for my CPAP to see if that is what is re-infecting me, although I just cleaned it a few days ago.

On top of that, I seem to have a case of hives--perhaps from my new urinary med.  It's not terrible, but seems to be getting worse. Fortunately, I see the urologist Mon. afternoon.

My car battery is dead, so we will jump it early Monday morning and drive over to Toyota for a replacement. The current one is only 6 mos old, so wondering if there is another problem. It seems like one thing after another.

John's sister is worsening with her dementia and we've been told that the nursing home where her husband is won't take her because she causes problems. That is so often the case with dementia patients you would think they would know how to handle it. She does have a health care woman who comes in 3xweek and right now, Millie can function fairly well.  And she is in IA and we're in SC!

Melanie's mother-in-law is in the hospital and sinking fast, so that's another think to worry about.

Please pardon my venting. I had to complain to someone today!  :'(
I hope everyone else is having a good day and that I didn't ruin it.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, sorry that everything seems to come at one time.  I hope at least the cold and the hives are relieved soon.

Happy Saturday, Sue.

jane, glad that your family/visitors are such good ones.

Happy weekend, Buddies!

Hi everyone....Sharon hope u are getting over ur cold...I finally got rid of my stomached bug...Jane ..,do you still have company? I went to church this morning...been reading and snacking Nguyen..it's cool and cloudy here...Hi to Sue..MarlyinMary Jeanne Joy and others I missed...have a great evening Darlene

Cottoncandy

Typo...don't know what It said I was snacking on...lol

jane

Darlene...I got a chuckle out of your post.  I was wondering..."what is Darlene snacking on...I've never heard of Nguyen:)

Mary...good to be careful with the driving...and early morning dark is not good.  I don't do well driving in dark morning or night.

Sharon...wow...the cold bug is really getting after you this year.  I hope the cleaning of the breathing thing clears that up.

Sue...good to have your cleaning ladies coming soon.

Company is gone.  We took the last 3 to the airport this afternoon, and so we're back at the condo and it's quiet and peaceful.  They were all so good to us.  One great nephew went out and bought a ChromeCast and hooked it up to the TV and nephew and his wife had an extra slot on their Netflix subscription, so we have that and they showed us how to use it.  I think we'll buy a smart TV, move the crhomecast to the other TV, and maybe get a sling subscription and dump our cable.  We've got left behind with all this technology.

They all seemed to enjoy their time here and the sunshine and beach walks.

We've got a quiet week until Thurs and Fri.

Stay well, everyBabe!

jane

maryz

Hey, Darlene - always good to see you checking in.  I, too, wondered about "snackng Nguyen".
  ;D

jane, like you, I'd have no idea how to use all that stuff.  I have a thing that lets me get Netflix and Amazon (can't think of the name right now), but rarely remember to use it.  A "smart TV" would completely buffalo me, I'm afraid.

Hope y'all had a good weekend!

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I'm waiting for a volunteer to take me to the dentist for my semi-annual check up.  She's supposed to be here about 9:45.  My appointment is at 10:00.

Tim will come tomorrow morning.  He first wanted to be sure the volunteer was picking me up for the dental appointment today.  I don't know if I'll pay another year's fee for these occasional pickups, but they do help Tim as he takes work time to take me to doctor's appointments especially.  He is afraid I won't remember everything the doctors tell me. (And he's right about that!)I really hate having short term memory loss.  So far my long time memory is still quite good.

I don't use much that is new on TV.  I don't turn my TV on until it's time for the 5 o'clock news which I watch from Montgomery and then 5:30 to watch Lester (what's his name) and then PBS evening news.  After that it's usually Hallmark movies and/or reading a book.

Not much else to report today.  I hope Every Buddy is feeling well and that you all have a good day.
Sue

jane

Morning, Babes!

Mary...I hope we can figure out Netflix.  :)

Sharon...hope you're feeling better today.

Sue...hope your dental appt goes well.  Do your doctors give you a printout of your office visit?  All of ours do and that helps remember what we're supposed to do, etc. Yet, I can understand Tim wanting to be there to hear it, too.

It's kind of an overcast and cool day here, and we're both tired from all the company and coming and going of the last 5 days. So, we're in for today...I've done my housework...dusting, swiffering the tile, cleaning glass tops and vacuuming. I've also got the second load of laundry in.

Now to read and enjoy my IPAD and laptop for some easy relaxation.  We have a music channel on the tv, so that's pleasant.

jane

SharonE

Jane, I wouldn't begin to know how to use all those things. I've read printouts about them and the pros and cons and still don't understand. I have a smart TV, but John doesn't. Mine is newer. The only thing is, I've never hooked it up to the internet, so it's not doing me any good. We can't ditch the cable unless John gets a new TV, so I guess we'll just stay fuddy duddies!   ;D

John took the car to Toyota this AM and got a new battery. Still no explanation why it failed in 6 mos.  I have a urology appt at 3:10, so will have to show him my hives and see what else he has in his arsenal that might help me.

Darlene, that looks like a vietnamese name that you were snacking on! :D

My cold is some better--at least not dripping, but sure has held on for a long time.  Sharon

maryz

Another gray day here today.  I'll be going to duplicate tonight, but that's it.  The big excitement for me is that there's a new resident here who plays duplicate!!  She doesn't want to play with the table here because they play in the evening, but she is interested in playing at the bridge center on Friday afternoons.  That's when I'd rather play (as much as I like my Monday partner), and being daytime, I can drive.  She's in her 90s and doesn't drive any more, but she's really sharp, and it sounds like our bridge-playing is about the same.  Neither one of us can play this week, but we'll see if we can work something out for next week.

I hope Jeanne didn't get hit too bad in this recent snow-storm.  We just had less than an inch of rain, and I guess everybody else is too far south to get the bad parts.

Happy Monday, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Hurrah, Mary, on a new duplicate partner at a time that works for you.

Sharon...glad the cold is improving.  We have to do more investigating on this smart TV...but can then use this ChromeCast on the nonsmart TV...and maybe get Sling...and ditch our cable.  Since we don't get our internet through them, I'd love to ditch them.

Jeanne may be up to her ears in snow.  I hope she's ok.

We walked for 20 minutes in a strong wind,  then stopped at Russo's for a pizza for lunch and walked back to the condo.  It's good to be in now.  We were both dressed warmly.

Marilyn.

There are so many places now where glasses are so cheap. But as after having caterac done than your Medicare will cover first dr. Prescription and so go to the best optition .i remember my first pair was $380 . Then get it filled at all about eyes with a extra pair way cheaper. Around 2 pairs for $79 I think

Hi Gals.  Mary, how nice to find a new bridge partner. I hope she works out well.  We just got rain too.

Jane, sounds like you need to stay in and stay warm with such a wind.

The roofer finally came today and went up into the attic and the dormer and discovered where it was leaking in two more places and the wood was rotted underneath. It's going to take some major work to repair.  Also a spot near the corner of our sun porch on the ground was done wrong and is leaking, but that's not major.  The big leak was caused by faulty construction/roofing by the builder, who, of course, is now finished in Sun City.  Apparently the roofer has had about 5 similar repairs here.  This is going to cost enough that we will have to file with our home insurance.  What a mess.

My cold is better. The urologist gave me a different med and the scan of my bladder was all good, so we'll see if the new med helps without giving me any hives or side effects.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, so sorry about the roof problems.  Years ago, we found some major structural problems with an addition that had been made to the house (before we bought it), and required not only a new roof, but replacement of some rafters and a new chimney.  Yuck!!  Hope all works out well.  Good news from the urologist, though.

We came in last again last night at duplicate - just couldn't get anything going with bidding.  Better luck (or found skills) next week.  Nothing much this week for me, except followup with neurosurgeon, haircut, and Walmart pickup on Friday.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Sharon...sorry for the faulty construction...never know when you buy the short cuts some builders take.

Cool and rainy here on the Island.  We met three other couples for lunch and so got caught up.

Good night to be inside.

Good morning, Buddies.  It's pretty chilly here this morning.  I went outside in my PJ's to get the paper and in the vernacular, "I like to froze!"  I have a garden club meeting after lunch and I'd like to stay home, but Carolyn called and will pick me up, so there's no getting out of it.  We're going out in the country to a member's home.  She's the one who despite no longer holding office seems to run the club.  I'm not looking forward to it, but had no plausible excuse for not going.

Bonney and I went to a movie late yesterday afternoon.  It was a tearjerker about a dog who gets lost and has some scary adventures, but manages after many problems to find his way back home.  We went out to eat afterward and I saved half of my VERY large sandwich to eat before I go to Garden Club today.

Not much else going on here today.  I hope every Buddy is feeling well and will have a nice day.

Sue

jane

Sue...it's understandable you're not keen on the Garden Club run by one woman, it seems.

We're a chilly 57 this morning, but it's to warm up and be near 90 by Friday!  The fog has lifted, but it's still overcast.  We had to start the pre_PET scan diet this morning, so that's our day.  He can't take his diabetic meds for 3 days beginning tomorrow and so we took those out of his pill box so we don't goof that up.  He'll also be radioactive...guys kidded him about walking down the beach in the dark and glowing.

I guess I'll make up one of the beds in the guest room as "snuggling" is discouraged for up to 72 hours.

Quiet day here.  I probably won't be on tomorrow, unless I can get wifi while waiting for the test up at the Cancer Center in Harlingen.

jane

SharonE

Jane, tell Ray to dress warmly for the scan. There is some reason that they keep it like a fridge in the scan room.  Good luck to him.

Sue, I think that unless the topic was really interesting to you, I would have just said I didn't feel up to it.  Since you didn't though, I hope it is interesting.

You're right about the construction thing, Jane.  When we built our custom house in IN, I was on site every day to check things out. Couldn't do that with this one though.  We had our roof replaced in 2011, so you would've thought that they would have caught it.   >:(

I'm going to Publix in a few minutes for groceries. I get so aggravated with HT that I am now only going there for RX's and a few things I forgot.

Yesterday, I took a hand-woven tartan scarf that my dad made in a craft class in the 40's to the cleaners. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. I use it at Christmas as a table scarf because it is red and green.  I sure hope they don't ruin it.

Have a good day, girls.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies. I'm not dressed yet, but will shower and dress soon as I have bridge at 12:30 at Olyne's house.  Terri will pick me up so although I've cleaned up the kitchen, I need to get into the shower and dress for bridge.

I'm hoping for some good cards today, but I know I'll have fun.  Olyne is a great cook and always has a yummy dessert for us and everyone in this club except Terri who is a Catholic are members of our Presbyterian Church.  We have a great time and even though my memory is not great anymore, they put up with me!

It's chilly again here today, but since it's January I don't think anyone will complain.  We'll have some warmer days but lots of chilly ones through March and at the end of that month, it will start to warm up.  The next thing you hear after that is complaints about the heat!

Not much else to report today, Buddies.  Jane, I'm hoping all goes well with Ray's tests and that you both will feel relieved when that is finished.  Keep us posted.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Just as the street looked like they were safe to drive on and the big snow of last weekend melting. Got up this morning and saw another 2 inch snow had come down overnight.  I have so much running around to do but hate to go out in the cold.
Been over 3 weeks since I went to library. Keep extending the due date on what books I have out.
The new computer with W10 is still sitting on the dining room table not installed.. Comcast came out. Twice they sent men who told me they are not allowed to install. Just going to stay with W7 one until weather gets better.  Comcast sent my bill and did show a $60 charge for doing it. Not here for 10 min. So I have to make a trip over to them. Sure wish a new Internet business would get started up. Had Comcast for at least 20 years but all has changed with them.
Need to shower and see if I can get some running done as they now saying on news that we will be getting heavy snow again Friday and below zero .
Just answered the phone. Phony Microsoft say the my computer has now lost the MS key number and to call.
I swear I must get at least 8 calls a day from these kind of calls. Getting as many on my mobile phone now also.
Need to look into a new phone system both Home line and Mobile.
JeanneP

maryz

Jeanne, I get those robocalls, too, on both my phones.  I've gotten to where I never answer the phone unless my caller ID indicates it's someone I know.  If someone leaves a message (which they usually don't), I can call them back.  The calls are definitely annoying, though.

The weather is crazy everywhere! At least we're not having snow here - just chilly and rainy and gray!

Stay warm and dry, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Mary, same here on the weather! Yuck! At least it doesn't have to be shoveled like Jeanne's snow.  Be careful, Jeanne.

I just got back from getting my hair cut & stopping at CVS. John just got a call that his new glasses are in, so he's off to get them. Hope he likes them.  My SoClean machine for my cpap came today, so have just finished (I hope) getting it all set up. Just odds and ends and maybe some laundry the rest of the day.

Have fun, Sue.  Hoping for good results from the PET scan, Jane.

Hi to all.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's another chilly morning here, no sunshine yet but I'm still hoping. I've had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, and dressed for my lunch and library visit with Tim and hopefully Kris.  Last week we ate at McAllistar's Deli and I couldn't get my usual beer as they don't sell alcohol there.  So I had to postpone the beer until I watched a Saturday women's basketball game.

I've finished all last week's library books, so am hoping to find some good ones to read this upcoming week.  I've been re-reading some of Louis L'Amour's western novels as the library has a huge collection on their shelves.  They were Bob's favorites and he had all of them--which I eventually sold when I sold the farm.  Our sons liked to read them, too.

Jane, I hope the diet and other "stuff" Ray needs will be helpful and he'll improve quickly and feel much better.  I know how hard it is when "hubby" needs meds and or help and doesn't like to feel vulnerable!

Jeanne, I don't answer the phone unless I know who's calling.  I'm embarrassed to say that I did answer a call about 5 years ago that was a scam and I fell for it.  Thank goodness my phone shows who is calling and the area code and number.  Most of my phone calls are related to bridge clubs and/or my sister who lives in Florida.

Mary, I don't answer my phone either unless I am sure it's someone I wish to speak to.  Too many crooks out there hoping to dupe elders!  We're having more rain this weekend, too.--And I'd like to see a sunny day!

Sharon, I hope the SoClean machine is a big help with the cpap thingie.  How often do you use it?

I won first prize at bridge yesterday which was a pleasant surprise.  I had good cards on every deal and was pretty excited to bring $1 home (we play for REALLY BIG stacks, here--Ha, ha!) And Olyne who is a wonderful cook had a very yummy dessert for us.  So it was a very nice afternoon.

I'm expecting Tim shortly for our library run, Kroger shopping, and lunch out somewhere.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

jane

Sharon...yes, the instructions for the PET scan said it was really COLD in the room, to dress warmly and to bring a blanket.  He wore sweats, a sweatshirt and heavy socks and took two fleece throws we bring down here.  He said with all of that he was comfortable.

Sue...good of you to go to a meeting with someone you don't respect.  I'm like Sharon...I don't do "nice" anymore, and I dislike pushy people like that.

Jeanne...more snow coming your way, I think.  Stay safe.

Mary...I've lost track...have you played duplicate yet with your new partner?

Darlene...hope you're getting some warm southern breezes.  We walked for 40 minutes outside just now and the wind is pretty strong from the south. here.

Alpiner...hope all is going well for you in CA.

Today we go back for the CT scan.  They use a dye but will only use 1/2 dose because of his kidney disease and then they'll keep him a bit longer to "flush" his kidneys.  I suppose that means a lot of water and a diruretic or something.  Then back to the Island for a quiet weekend.  We were both exhausted last night and went up to bed early to read and for me to watch my favorite News Lady and then sleep.

jane

maryz

jane, I haven't played with her yet - the plan is to do that a week from today. I know you're anxious to get the results of the tests.  Any idea on the timing?

Sue, enjoy your day with Tim, as I know you always do.

Sharon, I hope the cpap cleaner works as planned.  And that you're feeling better in any case.

I've gotten my hair cut and picked up my Walmart order.  Nothing else going on.  I was using some lovely soft, off-white bamboo yarn that was hidden in my stash - hoping there was enough for a sleeveless vest.  Unfortunately, just as I'm finishing the back, I'm finding there won't be enough.  I've looked everywhere I can think of online, but can't find any more.  Oh, well - guess I'll be ripping that out and making something else.  It will make lovely soft chemo hats, so I guess I'll do one of those.

Stay warm, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Hi Gals, Jane, they didn't tell me, but it was 18 yrs ago, so they probably had so many complaints, they added it to the prep list. I hope the CT scan goes well.  We will all wait for you to tell us the results. Jane, rest as much as you can. It's hard on both of you.

Congratulations, Sue!  I know you've had a bad run, so it was probably especially graatifying.  Hope you got lots of books today.

My SoClean ran its cycle this AM, so I hope it will keep me bug-free for a while.  It runs at 10 AM every morning for 7 minutes then has to sit for 2 hours before you can remove the mask & tubing.

I'm going to help John go through his clothes this afternoon to decide what he's taking on the trip. He says some of his pants don't fit, so may have to get some.

Nothing else happening.  Mary, rats on running out of yarn!  But nice that you will make a chemo hat for someone.  I got my hair cut yesterday too.

Have a good day. It's overcast here and supposed to rain tonight. Sharon

Cottoncandy

Happy Friday everyone...Yes Jane..enjoying this warm weather Yesterday and today...I managed to walk a mile today..hope good news on your hubbys scan...I had my hair cut today also...but usually do every 5 was...acorrding to the weather guessers...will be a cold weekend...so Sue I will be looking for something to read...are you going to be able to drive again in near future? SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've finished breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen, but still not dressed.  I like to bathe and shampoo my hair late on Saturday afternoons so that I can get ready early for Sunday School the next day.  I have some new library books waiting for me to read today--I finished one yesterday afternoon.  I'm a fan of Dewey Lamdin's Naval novels of the 1800's.  His main character is a good "sailor" who is now a commanding officer, but still manages to get into lots of scrapes!  Lamdin lives somewhere in Tennessee and sails down at the Gulf frequently.

I'm planning a quiet day here, mostly reading and watching basketball games on TV.  I hope every Buddy is feeling well and that every Buddy has a nice Saturday!

Sue
