Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Don, it's amazing that WWW has lasted this long because it seems so many things computer-related have disappeared.  I'm not tech savvy so I read only the first page, but I had seen mention of it in my news sites.

Ahhhh, the good "old days" with thinking 300 baud and an Apple IIe were cutting edge..and they were for me in the late 1980s.   ;D

angelface555

I don't know if this is relevant to the discussion or not. For those using Google Chrome or have Google Chrome on your computer. Last week Chrome was attacked through a back door and hacked. Chrome now says they have fixed the breach but cautions people to check to make sure they're using the latest Chrome installation and that they have changed their passwords.

I use Firefox but have noticed it has a tendency to freeze. Has any other FF users had this issue?

MarsGal

Patricia, I am wondering if that affects Chrome across all OS's or just Microsoft. I use Firefox here, but Chrome on the Linux.

angelface555

As far as I know, Google Chrome was attacked and breached last week. They, the tech, site, not Chrome; announced it saying Chrome had fixed the breach but the tech site highly recommended everyone make sure to both change their password and to doublecheck that they were running the latest version of Google Chrome.

I know I posted the article on Norm's B&T but haven't seen it again. But that was the gist of it.

RAMMEL

Thanks Don.  A little too much reading to do now but stashed the link (for later).

Big fire near here last night and I've been reading and watching that story.  More than 100 people burned out of an apartment house fire. Top two floors gone and the four floors below flooded from the fire fighting.  Good vid's on Youtube. Search Youtube for -- "Yonkers fire"   My son has a friend who lived there on the 5th floor. Luckily no one hurt.

Rick, what a fire!  I just put Yonkers Fire in the search line and got three versions.  The first one wanted me to subscribe to their news.  Our local paper does the same thing; it has to do with Adblock which I am not going to delete.

That's interesting. I put in Yonkers Fire ( in  youtube )and got 16 hits on that fire.

We have had so many fires here this year. Most buildings totaled. With the below zero temp and snow. Cold freezing water main pipes. So hard for the firemen to work on them . People did die in three of them.
Firefox does seem to be slow if searching at times . Always uploading changes. Only takes a minute though.
Now I have no idea how Google chrome got on this new computer. I know that my Gmail is messed up. Need to work on it. Don't get many personal EM anymore. Mostly just adds from places used in the past.I just have not learned much on this windows ten. Still messing trying to replace my car. To cold to mess going around the Dealers. All in all for me this winter has been the worst one I have had. Health O.K but all technology things not working right and now I can't even use WIFI. Not in the mood to call Comcast. All can get is Singapore or India. Soon as Spring comes I will get my patience back. Until them I just read books and count my Blessings. Think of all the problems in places with floods. fires and Plane wrecks. Turning off the News would help.

Ransome demands skyrocket! The Empire State building and the city of Albany's offices are riddled with ransomeware.

I am back. Before the Ipad went black it came up say Locked as someone was in my acct. Using registration for try to find missing phones and I will have to reactivate it all over again. I don't have a  Apple.IPhone.Thing is I can't open it up and no idea where the notes are from the start of it in order it reactivate it .Can't get it system at all. The other things just come up say No activation and can't fine Server which is my Comcast.  They were all working fine 2 weeks ago. My title was on the list for WiFi and worked for years. Now it has vanishing off and a name come up say Comcast WiFi and it is only 200 ft away. Something must have been set up around me. I will call them soon but just know I will get India or Mexico. They wear  me out. Takes hours and get know-place

think I am going to give Technology a rest. Very little is working . My WiFi , Both tablets and now My Ipad gone to blackWill not open. Was fine yesterday. Women voice says Activation needed. Power Locked. Same on the Amazon Fire. Google seems to be causing most of the problems. Just wrote a large posting in S and Net and then it just went back to my home pages on desktop.I am just going to post this part before same thing happens
well I found this first part of my postings so it comes before the one above. It had vanished. Its either me or the computer going crazy. If the new desktop goes then none will get replaced. I think later will just buy another IPad and that along with the TV will be it.  Need to now go and look up instruction of the new car. Need to take driving test next week. So many things in it I have to figure out. It is so cold out today and say going to rain all weekend and so try to do it Fri. Before rain comes. I keep forgetting to put the seat belt on as my old car they came across your body automatic and so not use to putting them on manual.

JeanneP

Jane. Google just sent a EM t0 my Comcast saying this

Someone added gmjeannep1@comcast.net as their recovery email
So I think this could be part of problem. They are getting my Emails in their Google acct. So now will have to see if I can close down both google and Comcast when it comes to EM accounts, What a mess. Now Google sent anothe saying they have cleaned up the problem with my Google but to go in and change all my info
JeanneP

jane

Jeanne...wow...what a mess.I hope you can get it straightened out soon.

MarsGal

Jeanne, I hope it isn't too much of a hassle to correct that. It sounds a bit scary.

This morning I found two interesting articles on BBC News. One is about the early Internet and the historical loss of unarchived items. http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20190401-why-theres-so-little-left-of-the-early-internet

The other is an article about Microsoft closing its Ebook store and the loss of access to what customers bought. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-47810367 This one reminds me that I am seeing more authors who are forgoing DRM on their books lately. I think most of them are younger, and perhaps less established, authors.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I read some of both links and found them interesting.  We can lose so much when sites are closed down.

Jeanne, I hope you are able to get your computer straightened out.

Probably similar to the  losses from closed sites is the updating of computer (Windows) systems. Both programs and certain document formats no longer work with the "improvements" In some cases there is a conversion program somewhere ------------ but.   98 -> xp -> 7 -> 8 -> 10

I had left a call back to Comcast for 11 am this morning to try and clear up the Mess. Thought I could be lucky and get US person. No luck. got of Shore. Hard time hearing. just got off after over a hour. They are so Polite but hard to understand. She says most not done by people off shore. She did find lots wrong coming up on mine. Special WIFi and the Modem connection. Anyway someone will show up in the morning see what is going on. I also did talk to Best Buys who have one there who works with Apple and so going to take IPad in tomorrow also. see if it is something can be done to open it up. I am not going to buy anymore Tech Stuff. Fact going to just us A desktop and maybe buy another IPad and that is it. Stay away from doing all the stuff that now everyone seems to be doing on their phones. I still have that new I phone sitting in the box. My Google acct. is messed up and needs to be working to work with that. All these companies are putting out so much and yet do not have any service centres other than in big cities and talking on line to them is crazy. Every one out of the USA. So many needing work here and yet thousand must be working for them overseas. :crazy2:
JeanneP

MarsGal

It seems so strange to me that you are getting a foreign CSR, Jeanne. I always get a US service rep. Although I think they are a little farther away these days, but still on the East Coast. We even have a Comcast store in Harrisburg where I can buy, return or exchange things. Verizon, on the other hand, has their closest service center/store in Philadelphia, and the one time I called, I got a CSR that seemed in a bad mood or annoyed.

JeanneP

Comcast was just out for over a hour. Turns out that the problem was mainly that the water company had dug a trench across the back of my Property and cut the cable wired belonging to Comcast. So not service to my WiFi , internet or TV or anything needing Wifi.  Just shows that companies do not check up on each others. But he did take care of a lot of things on my Desktop but could not fix what problem with Ipad. Will take it to Best buys today.

It still keeps coming up starting March 3' 2016 even when tapping NEW I want it to go to last postings. Been trying for months.
I am still stuck on my I pad in Vertical. I prefer to use it horizontal. How to fix?

QUESTION:  Lost all my links for where the ships come and dgot out.  Cannot rememgber the area but quite popular before I fell and went boom.  Was in Rehab for 2 months but only had one hand for longer after I got home.  Can anyone help me with this?

Mary Ann

Joan, I copied a couple of links from Boat & Tackle but by the time I got here, they would not paste.

Go to Norm's B&T and I think they would be on the next page where I sent two links to Sato and Angelface (Patricia) posted a few more links.

Anyway, if you go there, I will be able to help you and so will Patricia.

That is a cute one. Never read it before.
Doesn't feel like spring here. Cold and windy.🤢   Wish it would make up its mind if it wanted to stay spring. Trees were leafying out good and then the rain an winds came and they are bare again.
I think I am finely going to spend time trying to learn windows 10 on this new computer.  I got the book. "Windows 10 for seniors"Dummies. 🤷‍♀️I sure wish I still had my W7. Also my old keyboard. This curved one I will have to work with and try keeping my hands turned out. I think I am just going to stop buying new technology. finely spent 2 hours setting up a new I phone  so could use Texting. They don't want to use Emailing anymore. Everyone into Facebook or Text.
As I am typing this I am trying out the different keys on keyboard. I thought we once had a place on S and F where we could use to practice doing things.

RICK...........
Are you running Windows 10?  This morning I opened my computer to a screen saying it had been updated with the April 2019 update.
As a result.....all the program icons on the TASKBAR were eliminated except 3 from Microsoft (Edge, Mail and Store).
Bookmarks Bar was missing.
Worst of all,  Left-Click on a link no longer works....you have to Right-Click and chose 'Open link in a new tab".
It doesn't take long to have 20 tabs open at the top of your screen..
Just wondering if anyone else has run into these problems
