Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's waffles and link sausage to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Summer Days” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Losing Husband

A friend's mother, Glenda, lost her husband.
A week after the funeral an "occasional" member of the church came up to her after services.
"Is it true that Fred died?" she asked.
Glenda replied with a matter of fact, "Gee, I hope so, we buried him!"

Food For Thought

Not Looking for Fame

Scripture Reading: Luke 4:20-31
“Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.” Luke 4:24
After Jesus read and preached from Isaiah 61, everyone was amazed and speaking well of him. He was well on his way to becoming the most interesting man in the region.
But Jesus had more to say, showing he had other plans. Songwriter Michael Card writes in Luke: The Gospel of Amazement, “[These] are [among] the very first words he speaks upon beginning his ministry. . . . But they are not simply spoken. They are costly words. In the end they will cost him everything. If only he would have the good sense to identify with the rich and powerful instead of the poor, if only he would act in accordance with their values, if only he would dance to their tune. But Jesus does not, would not dance.”
Jesus refused to become a circus act to friends, neighbors, and people of self-importance. He would not allow himself to be used for fame and publicity. He rejected the temptation to be addicted to the sounds of applause from the crowds. He came to seek and save people who needed grace.
The people were looking for someone to lead and liberate them. They were looking for someone they could rally around, someone who could help them gain the freedom they longed for. They were looking in the wrong places and for the wrong things.
Do you want a Savior or a religious celebrity? We can’t have both.
Jesus, thank you for reminding us that it’s only through your grace that we can be saved. Amen.

Thought of the Day

A good Sunday morning HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

The sun is shinning and it is a beautiful morning.  We are to have a few storms move through again today.  Sad for those that have plans, but moisture is so important.  They do not last long...so take cover for a few and then the sun will be back out again.

PATRICIA, such a sweet story you shared regarding your wanting a Ginny Doll, and how you pursued your dream.  That is the way it should be.  Today if a child even hints at something they want....POOF, it is placed in their hands.  Very sad.

SHIRLEY, I am proud of you for the courage to get yourself to England with out the help of Uncle Sam.  I waited them out.....Bob went over to Germany in mid October and I was given the go the first of December, so not bad at all.   A family of four were sent from Denver to the same base and they had concurrent travel.....never made sense to me as it cost them a lot more to put up a family than just me.  Oh well, water under the bridge.  I am saddened that you were not able to keep the vet plate.  As you say, who supported that man while he was becoming a vet.  We attended a dinner at a USAA function and they presented the wives with a pin that commemorated  support to their husbands during their military time.   That was a first, and I thought it was very nice.  Bob, too, went to Lackland for OTS.  I just have to comment on this quote you made to Molly.  "I've been known to be a tad opinionated & daring."....REALLY??  I have never noticed that about you! 😍

JOAN, the thought of the day is SO true.  Thank you for our nice welcome to the SS this week. Sorry you are muggy there today....humidity is not nice, but it does come with the territory!

PHYLLIS, love your "Summer Days" graphic.  Beautiful colors and looks so inviting.

We have no special plans for the day.....just relaxing and enjoying some down time.

I hope you all enjoy your day doing what ever you please.

Good morning everyone, could not get in earlier but we are back again. Cloudy and damp here this AM, but at least not as hot.  Even with the AC set at 70 yesterday I could not get it cool enough in here. Went out for a walk earlier, cool but damp, and it felt good to walk the parking lot a few times.

JENNY  one Uncle would put beautiful flowers at his wife;s grave, go back the next day to find someone stole them. No matter how many times he complained about it they were stolen, not only his but other beautiful ones, too. That is so sad.

BEVERLY  when I went to bed last night it was still 78 here according to the news at 10pm.

SHIRLEY  I am like you checking for bugs before eating. One year my ex planted broccoli, where he bought the plants the man said to put them in a pan and cover with water well salted and weigh it down.  I was shocked at all the green worms that were in it. He was the only one who ate it, I would not feed it to my 3 and I would not have any. For years I would not touch broccoli. Helping my son at the orchard he showed me how to check the blossom end to see if any were inside. Very few had the signs. That is why spraying is helpful. Even when he makes cider he checks all the apples to make sure they are clear. Don't think I would ever pick wild blueberries anymore either. Same with raspberries/blackberries. We had sassafras trees in out yard at the house we had.  Love the smell and taste of it. I remember Arthur Godfrey, first on radio and then TV. I would enjoy looking at your wild life.  This is the week end my son gets his pool open but no one will be going in yet. He will jump in on a hot day to cool off and that's it. After I retired I think I went in about 3 times. I golt an email from Doris but am lax in answering. Don't know why I am getting so many emails. Keep getting one from HP for a survey on how I like this new PC and the help I get when I have called.  Marked 0 for most of them and the remarks part I told them what I thought of this one. My old cheap HP was better than this one. Also told them I am tired of talking to India where they hardly speak for me to understand and they do not understand me either. No soft words from me. At least they do want to know and that is more that I got with the last lemon of a Dell I had.

JACKIE  Joan doesn't miss much when it comes to giving demerits. She might be adding all of them up to really scold you soon.

PATRICIA   after a rain we get a lot of mushrooms pop up and some are so pretty but I would not touch any of them never mind picking any.

PHYLLIS  I would love to join you at the table for some tea or just to enjoy sitting in the shade. Beautiful graphic. Yellow flowers would be a draw for insects so they will leave us alone.

JOAN  breakfast looks wonderful and something I will enjoy. Chuckles, ask dumb question get sarcastic answer. Not Looking for Fame is a keeper. Will be sending it on. Your quote is so true. Thank you for all today's goodies. I know I could not get in earlier so checked email and went for a walk, everything fine when I came back. Every time we are offline I worry. Sure do not want the thing that happened a short time ago to happen again. Michael does a great job keeping us up and running.

AMY  we might have thunderstorms this afternoon. According to the weather guessers tomorrow will be a washout. Not going to be good for any parades. Still muggy here but not as warm as yesterday, no sunshine.

CALLIE  as much as I enjoy seeing all the funny faces I seldom remember to use them.

SANDY  good morning.

JENNY  so true, working for something you want makes us appreciate it more. Having everything handed to you make one expect that all through life.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been to church and the Farmers Market and it's HOT out there.  I don't think I'll go anywhere until it cools off!  I don't care if I run out of milk, carrots, laundry detergent, paper towels, shoe polish, windex, or Mr. Clean.  I'm in for the duration!  I know!  I know! you've all thought of some things I'll have to go out to get but if I'm lucky, my daughter will text to say she's going to the Amish store and is there anything I need.  One can hope!

You may have noticed...I don't do HOT well!

I'll be back later to see what Everyfriend is up to!

Vanilla-Jackie--As you can see, the same thing happened to me this a.m.  I got in and posted and then a couple hours later couldn't get in.  I'm sure it's nice to sit out in the garden.  Here it's too hot and muggy to sit out.  Lloyd sent me an email earlier, when the site was down, saying he couldn't access.  Imagine the same thing happened to Janie.

Good morning, Callie.  Maybe you tried to post when the site was down?

Sandy--Good morning.

Good morning, Jenny.  Wish you'd send a little storm this way.  We're having so many brush fires.  Yes, I knew when I moved here that the long summers are hot and humid.

Gloria--Good morning. At least the down time this morning wasn't anything like a few weeks ago when we crashed.  People who steal flowers off graves are "low life" IMO.

Good morning, Janie.  I don't do HOT well either, but for now I am stuck.

 Good morning from a sunny but cool Interior, It will be chilly today, not really above plus 66 but we'll preservere!

Farrah hid in the bathroom when I first opened the balcony door as I had earlier closed the bedroom door. However, the birdsong soon lured her out. Today, she ignored me making coffee while she had breakfast. We're having a breakthrough week!

Phyllis, that is a lovely graphic!

Happy Sunday Morning dear ones, I am all rested and recovered from yesterdays celebration. Our young man and beautiful girl (employees here at Rowntree) were treated to a big reception on the garden here. It was beautiful, but the Bride and Groom must have been worn out by the end of the day. They will have a good life together, of that I am sure. True Love.

Another overcast morning, and I am rushing to get to Church on time. So will continue chatting with you all later. :hugs:

Good Late Morning Everyone!

Well, we got our storm last night, all night long.  Both me and the wife were up for awhile, around 3:30 and the lightening and thunder and rain were constant.  I was watching RADAR and the storm appeared to be hung up in our area.  Checked rain gauge and had three inches of rain. Anyhow when I did get up it was still thundering.  But it has cleared out and sun is shinning brightly.

Anyhow, didn't make church, didn't wake up and when I did get up just didn't/couldn't get to moving.

Hope everyone has a great day.

angelface--Farrah is making good strides.

June--It was nice that the bride and groom shared their reception.

halkel--I wish we would get some of that rain, but I could do without the thunder and lightning.  The Good Lord understands your not making it to church.

N0 sitting in the garden today.  Tropical Storm Bonnie is visiting and she brought drippy rain with her.

Thanks for enjoying the graphic, everyone.

My Tom took his basic training at Lackland, too.  It was a very hot July and August for him.....and all of the others with him!  I have a picture of him taken during that time and he is so sunburned!  After basic he was sent to Biloxi, MS.  It was really hot there!

I wasn't at Lackland, but during the Vietnam war, I lived in San Antonio just outside of Fort Sam Houston as my then husband left from there to Vietnam and my daughter was born at Brooke Army Hospital in December 1972.

Well, I took a nap and then fed the doggies their noon snack and had my own lunch (leftover spaghetti) and now I'm comfortable.  The a/c is on and I'm enjoying the comfort.

My neighbor called to ask if I like potato salad.  I do and she brought me a nice dish full.  It looks good and now I know what to have for supper.

Hal, I hope you're not complaining about the rain.  You did say your area needed rain, didn't you?

I'm getting ready to do a job I detest....pay the bills!  At least I won't sweat while I do it!  Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyfriend!

Hi everyone.  All is well here and just awoke from a nice nap. We had about two inches of rain since last night but it seems to be clearing off. It was a nice steady rain. I attended church this morning but Pat elected to stay in out of the rain and she obviously wasn't the only one as many empty seats.  Until tomorrow.

GLORIA, I can not even imagine the nerve it would take to steal flowers from someone's grave, but these days I guess anything can happen.  Agree there are going to be a lot of people out there that expect everything to be given to them, as it has been, but they are in for a BIG surprise and I sadly know a few of those. Pitiful.  Thanks a lot....not sure I will be able to eat broccoli ever again!  One time we bought some rather expensive cod and as were prepared it, it was full of worms.....almost makes me gag at just the thought!

PHYLLIS, we too were at Keesler for Bob's training before he left for Germany and you are right, that is one HOT and humid place.  That was August and September of 1967. We and others in Bob's class rented apartments in a new retirement high rise right on the water, very close to base.

JANE, you lucky lady...enjoy that potato salad....nice neighbor!

HAL, they showed the flooding between Austin and Houston on every channel here last night......to me, Austin and Houston do not gel in my head...seems they should have said something to clearify a closer area.

My dear husband is a SAINT.  He has been on the telephone for over one hour trying to help my dad get connected on the iPad we gave him so that he can watch arena football.....bless his heart, he has such a hard time. So hard to help someone while on the telephone!

Off I go....we are getting ready to watch the Indy 500.  It has been 49 years since I was there as a junior in high school with my marching band.  I do not think my left leg could take hauling a snare drum beating on it for 2 1/2 mile around that track!  What a memory though!

Janie, nope no complaints from me on the rain. we really don't need it,it the run off, is just good for our aquifer, we will be thankful in July when we are hot and dry.

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks.  I forgot that Kelly mentioned computer trouble.

Janie--Spahetti, a nap and potato salad--all things I like.  Maybe that'll solve the stress of bill paying.:)

Larry--I was wondering where you were.  This afternoon when I was trying to take a nap we had such loud claps of thunder that I thought the roof blew off.  There was lots of lightning, too, but only a drizzle of rain.

Jenny--Oh dear--reading about these things containing worms makes me gag--probably won't be able to eat them again.  Hope Bob gets your Dad set up on the iPad.

halkel--We still need a big amount of rain.

We just finished having a pounding downpour!! Rain came that fast that it sat on top of the ground for a while. Now it has all seeped in. Farmers with standing hay are going to find it laying down after that and I hope what bit of my garden that came up is still ok. Nice, needed rain..

Post by: Shirley on May 29, 2016, 07:05:15 PM
Oh, Jenny, I do remember those long marches with a snare drum bopping on my leg... and such short legs compared with the rest of the high school band.  I was 8th grade & we had a retired military band leader so was a lot of training.  I dropped band the next year.

Gloria, I would never be able to eat broccoli again if I had seen that.  One time I sawed opened (with a knife) a box of frozen strawberries (before the zip open type) & found a big, black roach or something frozen right on top.  I have never bought another box of frozen fruit.

I'm guessing (analyzing myself) that part of my horror of bugs in my mouth comes from the time my brother gave in to my begging to "let me blow b-bs into the gun shaft".  He handed me b-bs & "roly-polys" same size, that happened to be on the concrete where we were sitting.   You "boys" remember filling your mouth with the b-bs & filling that long carriage?  Last time I asked or even watched.  But I didn't tattle on him until long after we were grown. Guess I was maybe 4 or 5, lesson learned.

Fitbit told me I had less than 3 hours sleep before I headed off to church so knew a nap was due.  Son insisted we'd better mow since it is supposed to rain all week & these weeds are loving the rain.  Had another inch in the gauge today from yesterday.  I got the weed whip done in the front before he got here & he went ahead & mowed the back after all.  We are good until the rain stops.  Wish I could convince him the yard guys are worth every penny... and I don't have to do anything, but he is sure they don't pick up & smothering the new grass.  The money goes into an envelope & he eventually takes it under protest, but last couple times I have marked what all it is for, how many times he comes & jobs he helps with.  I know he would gladly help anyway, but to me it is the price/cost of staying in the house & that is what we worked & saved for all those 60 years.  Besides, I am stronger than I was before this extra work.. doctor was impressed with my resting heart rate dropping 20 points (from 87 to 67 now)...   I am rambling... sorry.  Time to feed cats.

Amy, so far I haven't heard about farmers suffering with all our rain.  When we had an 80 acre wheat field behind our house years ago we held our breath until harvest, praying with the farmers that Nature would be kind.

Did anyone read the Sunday paper today. The article telling about all that damage that was done to at least 5 Vet Cemeteries through the States. Even the Wall in Washington showing the names of the Vietnam men killed . One cemetery all the crosses had been knocked down and broken. Said must have been around 6am in the morning by people in trucks.

Good afternoon, another hot one, but to morrow is suppose to have heavy rain.   Some towns have cancelled there parades. I feel bad as the big ceramonies at Calvertan Nal. Cemetery  near by will have to be cancelled.

Gloria, my neighbor across the street works at Calverten Nal., now that I cannot go he puts the flowers on cyriel's grave. I would still go there, if I could walk to his grave, but it is in the last row. Easy to find, as it is near a bench, also they left a group of trees. that seperate differnt sections.

Thanks Phyllis for the lovely blue toned graphic.  beautiful

Molly, my son was a Major in the AF and was station in Korea for over a year.  He was Veitnam and Gulf war Vet also    We are all praying for Mohmand

I started this post a little after noon hour, it is now 8:15   I had company come in.

Shirley my husband would not eat rasin bread, because it look like the bread he got in the Pacific, with bugs in it.  When he went back , he was station on Samar

I started feeling funny during Church, so as soon as it was over I came home, lay down and fell asleep for several hours. Still feel droopy so will stay at home. I'm glad I keep groceries on hand. Not that I am hungry but we do have to eat..hungry or not.

JeanneP, I don't know what is happening in our country or who is responsible for damaging the crosses at the Veterans cemeteries, but I hope those traitors can be located and pay a dire penalty for their actions. Where would we be if it were not for the men who have died for  us ? It is like a nightmare what is happening here.

Sorry I have nothing interesting to contribute. Just too tired today.

Good Monday morning, Everyfriend, on this Memorial Day.  Let us all pause to remember those who have served, those who are now serving and those who gave their lives for our country.  There's blueberry or cranberry muffins to accompany your coffee or tea . I wish everyone a nice day!!

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Memorial Day” graphic creation which we are using today.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept well last night...didn't wake up at all and I feel so much better this morning!  I'm supposed to go to a picnic at my daughter's this afternoon but the weather report calls for rain.  I'm thinking the picnic might be indoors.

I, too, think that your thought for the day is very pertinent!  Our forefathers were very forward thinking people.

On this Memorial Day, I remember with love and thanks, my father who fought in WWI and my neighbor boys who both died in WWII.  My cousin who fought in VietNam and one who fought in WWII.  My aunt who served as and Army Nurse in WWII and whose fiancé, a Marine, died on Saipan.  I pray for the souls of all the men and women who fought and died for my freedom.  And I don't take their sacrifice lightly.  I honor them all, today!

Good morning, Lloyd.  Hopefully by now you are catching up on your sleep.

Amy--Good morning.  What do you do all summer when there is no quilting group?

Good morning, Janie.  GREAT you slept all night.  The medicine did its job.  It'd be nice if it didn't rain so you could picnic outside.  When we lived in CNY Memorial Day was always the day we opened our pool and had all the neighbors come for a picnic.  Good memories.

Good morning to all on this Memorial Day 2016.  I can't change the world but only MY little corner and my first change would be to take everyone back to the times when we knew our enemies and it wasn't each other.  Our enemy was abuse at all levels, dishonesty, dictatorship..... unkindness.... and basically, not honoring the 10 Commandments.  My love & prayers for Every Friend and best wishes that when life gets rough we each have happy memories to help us through.  Time to go put out my flag.  Shirley

Hi everyone on this Memorial Day.  It is going to be a nice one here with zero chance of rain throughout the day and getting into the mid-80's.  We have specific plans for today.  I will attend my normal Monday noon meeting.  I am going to have to come up with a couple of new projects here in my office as like to stay busy in the mornings as will complete my review of the photo albums I have created on Google Photos this morning as only have a few more to review.  It has been fun and sometimes sad going back over the pictures but wanted to weed out those pictures that were of very poor quality or were not of interest.

Hope all have a nice day as we pause to remember those who have sacrificed so much to assure our freedom in the past and today and in the future as there appears to be no end in sight of wars and conflicts around the world.

Jenny, it sounds like you had a little extra protein in your cod.  (Sorry just couldn't resist.)  It is very difficult to try to guide someone through a computer problem via the telephone.  It takes a lot of patience and thoughtful phrasing of instructions.  I have done a bit of this over the years and know how difficult it can be when you don't see exactly what the other person sees.

Joan, I tried to post several times yesterday morning but the sight was down and then I was gone the rest of the morning attending Church.

Amy, yesterday I moved my tomato plants close to the house to shield them from some fairly strong winds.  However, they did benefit from the rain as are located outside the covering on the patio while still being on the concrete.  They were still a bit difficult to move.  Hope your garden survived the downpour.

Shirley, brothers can be a bit onery and I bet he had a great time getting you to put that "roly-poly" in your mouth.  I don't even know if you can buy a BB gun or BB's anymore.  I did have a BB gun when I was growing up and didn't load the BB's from my mouth.

JeanneP, I did read and hear about the vandalism of the Vet Cemeteries and was appalled.

Phyllis, thanks for that most appropriate graphic and Joan thanks for sharing it with us on this special day of remembrance.

Good Morning Everyone!

Our Memorial day is starting out wet.  Rain early this morning with a little bit of thunder and it is still drippy and cloudy, but rain has stopped.  And suppose to keep it up all week.

Nothing special planned here for today and the kids haven't said anything about special plans.  I hope the rain doesn't mess up everything at Fort Sam National Cemetery ceremony.

Janie, happy to see you feeling back to par.
Lloyd hope you are feeling better.

Joanie, thanks for breakfast. Wish I could send you some of our rain, I don't mind sharing.

Good morning everyone, it is raining. Not nice for Memorial Day. At least it is cooler.

JANE  you and me both with the heat.

JOAN  people are pretty low to steal from a grave site.

JENNY  I have seen cod just caught that had worms. I do not eat much fish I can truthfully say.

SHIRLEY  I am terrible, what ever I buy I check over very good before eating it. One reason I really do not like going to restaurants.

PHYLLIS  perfect graphic for this day.

JOAN  wonderful graphic for this day. A blueberry muffin would be great. Food for Thought gave me goosebumps.  Thought of the day, sure is not one language these days. Thank you for today's goodies.

Good Morning, Everyfriend,

There were a few water droplets on the newspaper sack/envelope/"whatever-that-thing-is-it-comes-in" this morning.  I guess the clouds to the east had brought some rain as they passed over - but I knew nothing about it.   :sleepy:

Very very quiet around here this weekend.  Several neighbors are gone and my family are all doing things I chose not to join in.   I miss the Bridge foursome that used to play on these 3rd Monday holidays.

Larry,  I liked your comment about projects.  I, too, have several projects I want to do.  Right now, I'm working on a data base of books I've read over the past several years.  I had saved library receipts and made some lists but needed to look up authors.  I've figured out how to use a split screen so I can see the data base and the library search page at the same time.  So far,  I'm at #283.
I also want to make an album for #2 son's 50th birthday in August.  That will mean sorting out quite a few pictures and writing some stories.
And - I'm still working on labeling slides that my son had put on cds a couple of years ago.  Also use a split screen for that - but have no idea how far I've gotten with the more than 800 I have to work on.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good morning, Larry.  I have nothing planned for today.  They are having a cookout at the clubhouse--outside by the pool.  I can't stand the heat and humidity so won't be able to go.

Gloria--Good morning.  Does your complex have anything special on Memorial Day?  My sister-in-law  in Syracuse went and decorated Ray and Rich's graves.

Good morning, Callie.  You have enough projects lined up to keep you busy for a LONG time.:)

🙏 HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY 🙏

It is another beautiful day here in the a Mile High City.

We plan to get together with family today.  Looking forward to it as we have not seen them since we returned from our trip.

Thank you, JOAN, for our goodies today.  I always feel badly that you are not able to join in with the neighbors at the functions they have. 😪

Thank you, PHYLLIS, for the touching Memorial Day graphic.

GLORIA, in reading about cod it appears it is common for it to have some extra protein in it.  Your comment sure justifies that!  YUK!  I bet if we only knew what we regularly eat we would be very turned off!

LARRY, you always seem to have plenty of projects to keep you busy, and that is great.  Yes, it is very difficult to help others with electronics, and trying to say the least.  A little extra protein never hurts, 'eh? BTW, Bob and I went to Steak and Shake the other day and it was pretty good.  I always think of you and Pat when we go there, although you have not mentioned it lately...maybe you do not have one close to you now?

CALLIE, it appears you will have quite a project on your hands with the birthday book for your son.

SHIRLEY, I enjoyed your comment today and totally agree with you.

JACKIE, thank you for sharing the link.  I just do not understand why people are not made to stand responsible for their errors.  Of course any times it is just bad judgement, but own up if you are guilty. Our country is all up in arms over the shooting of the gorilla at the Cincinatti Zoo. A 4 year old child, clearly not being watched by his parent, falls into the moat where the gorilla is.....they shoot the gorilla, an endangered species, to rescue the child.  There is a lot of speculation as to if the gorilla was going to hurt the child or not?

I wish you all a wonderful day.

Jenny

Jenny, they didn't need to kill it, whatever happened to using the tranquillizer dart......

Went walkabouts earlier, our weather has been dry, a very pleasantly hot with a little breeze, my kind of weather....Stopped to have a chat to Ivan, he too has MS, then walked a little further and we stopped to speak to, hm, forgot his name but I can remember wife's - partners name, Kim, she is from Houston Texas, and at present gone back home, both men were out doing some front of home gardening....I have also done some sitting in the garden.....Tomorrow we take our Benji 8.am to the vets, he will be in all day, told we collect around 4.pm....tomorrow will be a mighty long day for both Benji and me...nothing major, just teeth cleaning and sort his gum infection, he might even lose a tooth....but he is 13 years old now, and going under anaesthetic....always a risk in older senior dogs....

Jackie, an article about the gorilla killing said a tranquilizer doesn't work immediately so there is no telling what would/could have happened to the child until it did take over.

Jenny--It's nice that you can get together with your family today.  I accept that I cannot go to outside activities when it's hot and humid--it's part of the COPD.

Vanilla-Jackie--I heard on TV the same thing about the gorilla and the tranquilizer.  How nice you got out for a walk.  Good thoughts for Benji's procedures tomorrow.

Mary Ann--As you can see above, I heard the same about the gorilla.

Good Morning from the cloudy and
cool rocky coast of Maine.

Happy Memorial Day, Everyone!

Years and years ago,  when my kids were
preschool age and teenagers,   I had a small
garden..      I grew some broccoli,   until
I took the head of broccoli into the house,  and
put it in warm water,   and tons of
worms came out of it.  (oh yuk!)
:baaa:

Bye bye broccoli growing!

Sad news about that gorilla that had
to be destroyed...   But circumstances
seemed to have made it necessary...

I wasn't there,  and I don't know for sure...
That was a very sad moment in time
for all concerned.     If that had been a human
being instead of a Gorilla,   and it appeared
that the childs life was in danger,  deadly
force would have been used.
Sometimes we just don't have a
safe choice.

I hope everyone has a good day,
even if you are home bound.    I
have no special plans for today,  either.

Sandy
  :xoxo:

Goodmorning every on on this cooler Memorial Day. although the humidity is 99. Rained durning the night, but has not rained since I got up and it is now afternoon.  So many parades were cancelled. Right now it even seems the sky has gotten brighter.

Joan, I also will have a blueberry muffin. Thanks

Still missing Sun and Kelly.

Shirley I agree with Jenny, I go along with your comments. Out on Montauk Pt. on the very end of Long Island, the paper said this morning they had over 300complaints  this weekend.  Public drinking and urination on peoples lawns. Also littering and destroying the beach. People use to come out to enjoy the state park, to go out on party boat fishing and of couse see the ocean and the Montauk Light House, that George Wasington  commissioned. Its is only a small fishing village. Big motels and bars seem to be taking over.
When I was a little kid and lived in Patchogue, it was the thing to do once a year.Pack the car for the day trip to the end of LI
I am glad I still have my wonderful memories of days gone by.
Gloria I am sure you have the same memories of RI. I know everyone else  remembers there home town.
June, I hope you are feeling better to day.

I guess we are not going to get spell check back, so you will have to put up with my spelling.  I spell like I hear, and I am deaf.
June I hope you are feeling better.

I forgot to mention yesterday, my DIL in Fla. is retired USAF

Lindancer, if a word is underlined in red as spelt incorrectly, once your cursor is over this word when you are preparing to type in the box...you can easily right click on your mouse to see the correct spelling, then click to change....that is the way I am doing this until spell checker takes over....

Linedancer--We have terribly high humidity, too.  It's too bad many parades got cancelled because of inclement weather.  I haven't heard anything about spell check, but Vanilla-Jackie gave you a tip.

Still morning in my neck of the woods. Had a restless night, and don't feel too good today..another repeat of yesterday, so I am staying in and doing nothing. I wonder if the diarretic is not for me. I need salt in my system, and this medication does remove salt. Very tired and dizzy feeling. Oh, well, one day at a time.

Overcast again, but it usually clears up by afternoon. High is to be 74.

"I spell like I hear, and I am deaf".  Linedancer....  I was reading along & caught that & had to stop & laugh... You slipped that in pretty slick!

"My sister-in-law  in Syracuse went and decorated Ray and Rich's graves...." Joan, I think I remember that you lived in Arkansas when he died.  That is such a strain to have to send someone "home" for burial and I always think how difficult it is for the ones left behind. My admiration for the family that does it.

My daughter-in-law's mother had her father's body brought back to the small town in Kansas so his surviving family could be at the service.  The couple had lived in the south for many years but "home" was Kansas, so quite a sacrifice for her.  My husband said many times that THIS was his home, so I kept him here in a place where  I was comfortable joining him someday.

June, I don't know anything about most meds but do remember when the lady we bought land from years ago went to the hospital because she was taking a diuretic & was extremely low of potassium or something.  Cas had to take iodine to make up for his lack of salt/iodine and also potassium.  I would think your doctor would have given you another prescription for that, though... but maybe it is working better than she expected & you are losing too much too fast.  Hope you feel better quick.

Trying to get laundry done & so far nary a load has hit the machine!  Phone keeping busy & WWII movie I had not seen before keeps stopping me as I go through the kitchen.  Last phone call I picked up here by the computer so watching as I read.  Onward, Shirley!

I called downstairs and spoke to a Nurse, and told her I was going to quit taking the dirrhetic because I am feeling so blah. She agreed with me, and said my Dr. was not not working today, but she would let her know tomorrow. I'm sure it is to blame for how I feel, as I really need more salt in my system. I eat plenty of bananas so the potassium should be o.k....I think it is the lack of salt. We shall see.....

Thanks to all Friends here for sharing many personal family experiences RE earlier times as we remember what TODAY has meant to us and our families!  I talked with CHAPS (my son David) a while ago and he sounded tired.  He's been busy working around his family home to get it all settled for his family while he is stationed in Korea for a year.  He mentioned that Church friends gathered to give him a wonderful "Send Off" and they all shared stories RE their own family experiences in past years during Military service.  I could certainly tell from his tone of voice and choice of words that he has a lot on his mind, so kept our conversation short - but "Loving."  I mentioned that several friends in these online posts sent best wishes for him and he is so tremendously grateful.  AGAIN, my own Thanks for the best wishes and prayers!

Mohamed called a second time earlier this evening and once again, he, too, extended his thanks for the prayers and best wishes sent forward for his safety and safe travel as he travels to the USA for a couple of weeks in mid-June.

Well we sure got some needed rain over night, almost 2 inches of it. At least is was cooler today with only an hour of sunshine but quiet with no AC running. I even went and sat on the porch for a couple of hours. Fresh air felt great.

JOAN  the association had a cook out Saturday but that is about it. Parking lot was almost empty today with everyone going someplace or other. I cannot go out in hot and humid days, just cannot breathe right and get dizzy if I am in the sun for more than a few minutes. Summer and I just do not get along.

JENNY  does not take much to turn me off from eating something.

SANDY  glad I am not the only one with that broccoli experience.

GLORIA de  when my in-laws had a summer home on the beach in Maine it was great. All private property and no one bothered anyone. Before my FIL sold it the people from the town close by started parking in their yards to go to the beach.  They were rude and messy. He had it and sold the place, many of the others sold too. Lot of parades and celebrations here were canceled today. Too.

JUNE  my daughter sent me an email with a picture she took this morning of the mountain at the end of the road they live on. All that showed up was the TV tower on the top of it.  All fogged in. Best to stop that new med.

AMY  I was here this morning. Gee when did I become invisible? I am OK as usual and still here in Rhode Island.

JUNEE  hi, good seeing your new avatar.

MOLLY  my thoughts are with  Chaps and his family.  Not pleasant to know you will be separated for at least a year. That is what our troops faced in WW2 when they were sent overseas. No cell phones then to keep in touch and letters took a long time to get through.

MYCHEAL  so many these days don't know the meaning of Memorial Day. Sad.

Good night everyone.

I hope it was a peaceful Memorial Day for everyone.  Last week, the bank had a trivia question on what other name was Memorial Day - I told them Decoration Day and they were all shocked because they didn't know.  I never knew it as Dec. Day either but it is trivia like that running through my head.  Don't ask me why.

Callie:  I never get around to making a data base for everything - for instance, I just read a book or watch a movie until something sounds familiar  :-X

Gloria:  Wish you could sit in on a quilting gathering.  I am a novice compared to all the others - they are so helpful and friendly.  I have been pushing myself to set aside more time for sewing and now working on a large lap quilt.  Too many projects, too little time.

Gloria, my grandparents always called it Decoration Day.  It grew out of "decorating" the graves of the soldiers who died during the Civil War.  Whole towns turned out to decorate the graves beginning right after the war ended.  It was subsequently changed to Memorial Day and the soldiers of all wars are now honored.

There were 6 of us at my daughter's today for dinner and we spent more than half an hour remembering members of our family who fought in various wars.  It was good remembering them.  And it was nice to be able to share some of my personal memories with the next two generations.

Good Night Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully and may God bless us every one!

Oh, Beverly, don't you tell your gr-daughter but since everyone has been talking about worms in veggies & even fish... my first thought when I saw the photo was "worms" :creepy:   ....and they really are beautifully canned.  I stopped at Long John Silver's tonight & when eating the fish I thought about worms someone mentioned and couldn't get the 2nd piece down.  Just now I heated it in the microwave & shared it with the cats... they got more than I cared to eat.  Awful what imagination does to appetite.  I would imagine the fiddlehead pickles would be good. Surprised I never heard of them before, growing up in the world of French cooking & the various dishes & drinks they created from just about anything that grows... wonder where the dish background comes from.  More to Google, huh?  Where did Erin get the recipe to can them?

Yep, Carol & Jane, we called it "Decoration Day", too, back in Missouri.  Decorate we did and after cleaning off the graves & mowing grass there was a picnic in the field/park at the end of the road where my gr-mother lived.

Gloria, I was also moaning about the heat & humidity this week... we will have a LONG summer, I'm afraid.

Cats are all accounted for, fed & ready for the night.  I am off to bed, got in one minute shy of 8 hours last night & after sleeping in this morning.  One more pill to take & guess I'm all cured, no headaches since taking them... 6 days.  Hope that will do me for another few years. No reaction from the Zpac .. good stuff.  My lights are dimming off & on, no storms, I just checked radar.   :yikes:

Good Tuesday morning, Everyfriend, on this last day of May.   There's omelets to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a great day!!

:smitten:

CHUCKLES

Prayer

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-three students filing into the already crowded auditorium.

With rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.

Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and moms freely brushed away tears.

This class would not pray during the commencements ----- not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.

The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling.

They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice, but they were routine... ....until the final speech received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone.

He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!

The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, "GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you!"

And he walked off stage...

The audience exploded into applause.

The graduating class had found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval!

Isn't this a wonderful story? Pass it on to all your friends......... and GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

Food For Thought

I Thought I was a Christian
(By Marty Kasza)

You'd think that after years of attending church, Sunday school, vacation Bible school, church camp or youth group, someone would be a 'Christian'. But that's not always so. At least, that's not the way it happened with me. I became a Christian when I was 18 and a month away from leaving for my first year of college.

A pastor from the new church my family was attending stopped by our house and went through a small tract called "Steps to Peace With God." My 11-year-old sister and I confessed our sinfulness and professed our faith in Jesus that day, asking Him to be our Savior. But prior to that moment, I would have said that I was a Christian if someone had asked. I mean, people who believe in God and believe in Jesus are Christians, right? Christians go to church. Christians serve in the church. I did all of these things. So why weren't they enough to make me a Christian?

Looking back, I can't believe I missed the truth. My mother taught me about the Lord, and I even memorized the first part of John 3 for an Easter sunrise service when I was in high school - a good presentation of the gospel if I've ever heard one. I knew Jesus was born to a virgin, lived a perfect life and was crucified and resurrected. I knew about Him, but I didn't know Him personally.

While I had the truth in my mind, it didn't click in my heart until someone explained sin, how it had separated me from God and how my relationship with Him could be restored only through belief in Jesus and acceptance of Him as my Lord and Savior. You see, a Christian does believe in Jesus, attend church and serve others, but she does it because of a love for her Lord, not because of a self-imposed requirement to be a good person. My life has changed in the years since I became a Christian. Instead of simply going to church and being pleased with my contributions there, I have a real, growing relationship with Jesus. I have a desire to spend time with Him in prayer and Bible study. I like to serve because I hope to make Him known to others - people who may think they know what it means to be a Christian, but who haven't had a heart-encounter with the living God.

My 18 years of going to church and church-related events prior to accepting Jesus as my Savior weren't a waste. They were foundational for who I am today. They prepared me for the moment when I truly understood the gospel. The people who contributed to my first years of life demonstrated Christ to me so I'd be ready to do the same for others.

So I've gotta ask. Are you a Christian? Has the meaning of the gospel really clicked in your heart, mind and spirit? Are you growing in your relationship with Jesus? Are you going to church because you want to worship God, enjoy fellowship with other believers and serve as Christ served? I hope so!

But if you're not, if you're like I was, a church-participator who didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus, now's your time to make a change and relinquish yourself to your Creator. Now's your time to really start living! God's grace and forgiveness are available to cover all your sins. He has a desire to adopt you into His family. Won't you ask Jesus to forgive you and to become Lord of your life today?

By making Jesus the absolute Lord of your life, you won't be zapped into an angelic being. You'll probably still make mistakes from time to time. But when you do, go to Christ with a repentant heart (being genuinely and humbly sorry for what you did with no plans to do it again), accept the forgiveness He died to give you, and keep growing in Him. Jesus loves you, and He is an accepting Savior who holds open arms to you.

"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved" (Ephesians 2:4).

One more time... I've gotta ask: Do you know a lot about Jesus? Or do you actually know Him personally? If you've assumed you're a Christian, and you're really not, you can be right now!

Thought of the Day

“It seems to me that there should be a connection between what we know and what we do! Unfortunately, some of the most difficult Christians to deal with are those who like to argue Scripture but their life does not reflect either an understanding of Scripture nor a practice of it!"

I did not take the photo,Daughter Jen was giving me a lesson in using the iPad and see results. Don't I look as if I am listening?

We don't have Memorial Day here at this time but yesterday news told us 33 of our men killed in action were going to be brought home at last. I can only say "Better late than never".

Almost 9.45am, dropped Benji off at the vets ok, 8.am as told....sat in Vet consulting room while he asked a few questions, we reminded him that 6 days ago we were in there as Benji had a tick near his eye taken out...Vet same one who is doing the opp-surgery will also take a sample of lump that's if he can find it...we have also given vet permission ( at an added fee ) to do a blood test, recommended on older dogs, and a free heart check up before going ahead....Told he will clean his teeth, sort his gum infection, he may lose a tooth, or teeth.....told to ring around 1pm to check on him, should be able to collect him around 4'ish....

Just as I was typing this, phone rang an hour later than vet said, after doing Benji's pre opp assessment and just explained that his kidney level and function has dropped a little since last time vet done a check, three weeks ago so vet said it is still going ahead but will have to put Benji on a fluids drip, then to monitor his kidneys in a couple of weeks time....Vet is putting this down to maybe his age, although he agreed when I asked if it could be due to something new underlying....I am a natural worrier...I am praying to God to look after him today....

Jackie, I also pray that Benji will come through this procedure safely.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Temperature here has dropped to the low 60s overnight.  It was very pleasant sleeping with the windows open. It is only to go to the low 80s for the day.  Not too bad for the last day of May.

Back when I was in elementary and middle school, all the school children marched in the Mamorial Day parade carring bouquets of flowers.  The parade ended at the local cemetery and we had been instructed to place our flowers on a grave that had a flag.  The flags had previously been placed by the members of the local chapter of the VFW.  I thought it was a neat tradition and my best friend and I always went to the far end of the cemetery to find a veteran who might not have been remembered.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  I'll be greeting my public behind the counter at WM today.

Good morning everyone.

Going to be another hot one here.We did ask for warmer weather and now we have it so I won't complain.

Need to do "stuff"round he house today. I see the garden is coming up and so are the weeds so they need to be taken care of.

Jackie, I know how one will worry when their furbaby is at the vets. Big girl had two teeth removed when she was 10 . Prayers going Benjis way that all will be well.

Jane, have a great day at work.

Gloria, I must have missed your earlier post.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Thank you both Jane S and Amy, but somewhere along the line myself and vet has been getting somewhat confused, when I said this has changed over the last three weeks as....If I now remember no blood test ( kidneys ) was done then, only annual vaccination - checkup which included a heart check-up which told was absolutely fine...so not sure what vet was referring to as the last time Benji had a blood test for his kidneys....The only time we can think of was when Benji lost half of one of his ears a few years ago due to gypsy's that had buried shards of glass in the Glebe....maybe today's vet was going by that record, of course if he was, Benji was a few years younger....As for me, think over the phone I was getting kindof confused between three weeks ago his heart test....but vet was definite about his kidney function - numbers being lower than what he would have liked them to be....Its now 12 noon, told to phone around 1.pm, I guess the procedure is going on now as I type....

Good morning everyone, rained overnight again but not too much this time. Going to be another hot humid one according to the current weather report.

CAROL  I tried making a quilt years ago and it was a disaster. Did better with making clothes, crocheted afghans and knitted sweaters. Now it is PSP on the computer. Those folks in those groups are all helpful. Joan was wonderful with PSP  before she had to fight for her life.

JANE  I grew up calling it Decoration day as that is what my parents called it. I still have trouble with Veterans day instead of Armistice day and President's day instead of Washington's or Lincoln's birthdays like when I was young. My sons seem to care more about today than those who went before. My daughter is the one who likes to know about my family. They knew my in-laws more because we lived closer to them.

BEVERLY  wish I had asked my niece's husband more about those fiddleheads. They look good in those canning jars.

SHIRLEY  like you I dread this coming summer and hope this AC does it's job. I still think window AC's work better than the portable ones. The layout of this apartment does not get the colder air to get to the bedroom. If I put the AC in there this living room would be too hot and this is where I spend most of my time. Glad your headaches are gone.

JOAN  an omelet will be good this morning, I woke hungry but need my coffee first. Smart graduating class with the last student to speak. Food for Thought is one to think about. Today's quote is so true. Thank you for today's goodies.

JUNEE  always good to know some troops are going home at last. Those who were “missing” always make families worry and wonder.

JACKIE  we do worry about our pets. I know when my DIL called me to tell me that she had their dog put to sleep I cried every time I thought about her. I always called her my shadow because when I was there she ways always next to me.

JANE  it is already 70° here so did not cool much. Have a good day at WM.

AMY  hope you do not have much stuff to do today.

junee--Your new avatar is lovely.

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  I'll say a prayer that all goes well with Benji today.

Janie--Good morning.  That ceremony you participated in when a school child--marching in the parade with bouquets and then placing them was something you'll never forget.

Amy--Good morning.  Is "stuff" like w---? :)

Good morning, Gloria.  It's too bad you don't have central a/c there.  I am another who failed "Quilts 101" but did do well with sewing, knitting, crocheting and other needlework.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of May 29
Post by: JaneS on May 31, 2016, 08:09:33 AM
I also failed Quilting 101.  A friend and I went to a class taught at the high school by the local Farm and Home representative.  Joyce still quilts and I never made it.  However, I did sew and knit.  I failed crocheting, too.  And I have to admit that I love cooking and I'm pretty good at it!

Joanie, that is a good memory of school children being a part of all the Memorial Day activities.  I even remember that most years, my flowers were peonies because that's what was blooming at that time of the year.

Better get off this thing and go get dressed. I have an errand to do on the way to work.  Have a lovely day everyone!

Would you believe, referral letter says phone at 1.pm, vet twice told us to phone around 1.pm, ( face to face, and to me, over the phone ) to check on after Benji has been done....Time now 1.15pm, told R to phone,.... told, " Benji hasn't been done yet, " said they tend to leave dental-work to the last......So we weren't told that earlier.... >:(

We were previously told we would be collecting Benji around 4.pm...cant see opp and recovery taking place in the next 2 & a half hours....think it will be more like 5 or 6.pm when we go to pick him up....

Janie--I was a fair cook, but nowhere near as good as you are.  I didn't go to any quilting class, but had a friend who made beautiful quilts.  She tried to teach me, but finally gave up.  I hope everyone in your line at WM today is smiling.

Vanilla-Jackie--I hope the scheduling for Benji's procedures gets straightened out.

Hi everyone on this last day of May.  Yesterday was a quiet day but I did manage to stay as busy as I wanted.  Today likes like it will be the same.  It is already 75 degrees at 9 am so is going to be a warm day.  I plan on a quick trip to COSTCO as need more frozen fruit.  I have been enjoying a cup of my frozen mixed fruit each morning for breakfast and it is now all gone so need to make up some more but have used all my frozen fruit.

I will tend to my flowers and other plants as I do each day.  I find I am really enjoying watching the tomatoes grow day by day.  So far there are eight tomatoes with more blossoms and I can begin to see the start of a couple of yellow peppers.  Everything is very green here this time of year and really is enjoyable.

Jeanne, I have also used email to try to help someone.  When I do so I try to include images showing what they should see.

Hal, according to the weatherman yesterday it looks like you all are in for another tough weather week.  Did you watch the Colonial Golf Match on Sunday.  Jordan Spieth put on quite a show resulting in his winning without the need for a playoff.  Some of those puts on the final nine holes were just unbelievable.

Callie, I also have a listing of the e-books, audiobooks and print books that I have heard or read the last few years.  Once I find an author I enjoy I like to read a number of their works, especially it they feature the same characters. I am no where near the number you have already listed but the list does grow month by month.

Joan, I am with you on wanting to stay inside where it is cool.  Hot weather is not a heart patient's friend.

Jenny, when I met my men friends for lunch on the 13th of this month we did eat at Steak and Shake but it was in Madison, Georgia, about 90 minutes from us.  I am certain their is one in the Augusta area but haven't been there yet.

Jackie, had the child been killed by the gorilla the zoo keeper would have certainly been criticized for not taking the action he did.  It is hard to understand how a four year old got into the area where the gorilla was to start with.  It sounds like the vet is putting Benji though the paces today.  I know you will be glad to get him back home.

Junee, so nice to see your picture and now have a face to go with the name.  I think having our pictures adds a lot of our postings.

Carol and others, I grew up with it being Decoration Day and my mother always took flowers for all of the graves.  She raised a lot of peonies and other flowers that she could cut and take for the decoration.

Larry, that was a tough call on behalf of the zoo. If there was any other way to safely remove that child I am sure they would have done it. Tranquilizing the gorilla was not the answer as he may have struck out with anger at the child. Tough call with a sad ending but it could have been worse.

So far the garden is ok..no sign of my squash yet though.

R phoned vets 3.20, said he was fine but hadn't come out of anaesthetic yet, to phone back again in an hour, but did say his procedure had been a long one......R just phoned 4.20, told he has come out and to give it another hour and we should be able to collect him.....I hope Benji is ready for a big meal, that's if his mouth isn't sore...R also told we have tablets - medication for him...... Today has been one long day....Oh I did manage to get out for a downhill slope walk with R, leg was feeling pretty good, so took the chance for a walk while I can....

LARRY - When I viewed the link you posted of the Vets saluting, tears came to my eyes.  I recall so clearly attending several services at Arlington cemetery when Chaps conducted the service for several of his Soldiers.  I stood off to one side holding the arm of a Duty Officer assigned to me.  When the services ended and Chaps turned to the Family of the deceased, my Escort gently released my arm, slowly saluted and straightened his back.  He looked straight ahead until Chaps stepped backwards and saluted the soldier in the coffin.  Very sad, but highly respectful to the Soldier and family.

We are back, Benji's home...Benji looks terrible....he is week, his back legs and backside is collapsing...his face looks so old and he is looking ill, and not at all like out Benji...He has had 12 ( twelve ) :o teeth taken out, his gums have been stitched....he said his mouth had been in a bad way...he still has the drip plaster attached to his lower leg which we must soon pull off....he wont touch his veterinary recuperation food....just doesn't want to eat, or can't eat....he is very weak...looking thin....panting away...some blood coming from his mouth onto his paw, onto our carpet...I am arguing with R and beating myself up as to " what kind of owners are we " how did we ignore this? why did we turn a blind eye? we are meant to be his caring and loving owners, how did this happen?....this didn't get to this stage overnight...I am holding both myself and R to blame...We have to take him back in 48 hours, check all is as it should be.....We will get that done first, get the all clear before we book his app in a fortnights time, re, his kidneys...In the meantime we have to administer double dose of different strength tablets, twice a day for a week starting tomorrow morning....

They do look "rough" for a bit but give Benji time and he will be fit as a fiddle..

I also feel angry last vets never acted on it when they checked him over and looked inside his mouth, re, I mentioned......." his teeth look pretty bad, don't they..." to not get any response, only from one who partly agreed with me......this has been a build up, not over months, but over a few years, but I didn't know his gum-gums had gotten infected....I will only be relaxed in the morning once he has eaten some food, the time now is 8.40pm....and its like Benji doesn't know what to do with himself, nor where to settle......
Along with everything they have flushed out his kidneys....

JACKIE, you can't beat yourself up........there were more issues involved at the time.  I have been thinking about you and Benji and hoping that his procedure was going well.  I know it has been a very stressful day for you AND poor Benji.   He will feel much better tomorrow and of course he will do much better after he can get some food in his tummy.   HUGS to you, and know that I will continue to hold you both in my thoughts and prayers.

PATRICIA, I loved seeing the picture of your Farrah.  She is a beautiful kitty.  Thank you for sharing the pictures with us.

JUNE, I do hope you are feeling better this afternoon.........these drugs they put us on can and DO cause problems, so I am glad that you got the OK to stop taking that diuretic.

LARRY, I loved watching your Memorial Day link........it is a very touching one, and one that I will be sharing with all.  Thank you so much.

YIPEE, SANDY, getting a new A/C installed.

Washing some clothes today..........about time.  I have been putting it off.  One would think that I have to get the wash board out and scrub them individually the way I put it off.

Thank you, BEVERLY, for sharing the photo of your granddaughters pickled fiddleheads.......I am sure they are good, but I must admit my thoughts were exactly what SHIRLEY posted............all this worm talk has me a bit out of sorts.

Jenny,  after feeling so lousy for two days, I dressed and went downstairs to our clinic. Our nurse said she would contact my doctor, and felt the doctor should recommend a chest xray and a blood test. I haven't heard any more, but she did tell me to go back to bed, and she ordered lunch and dinner to be sent up to my room. So I am following orders and doing nothing. They are very cautious here, don't want anything spread around to other residents.

My last day of picking up a third grader...don't know what's coming next year.  The school where she will go is all the way on the other side of town from where I live and the schedule is different.  We'll see what transpires.

I'm very tired today.  The job and the heat and the Little Hooligan all take my energy away.  I hope you are all feeling well and that life is treating you the way you like it.  Take care of whoever you love including yourselves.

Bis, had a call from Nurse downstairs. She finally contacted the doctor, and was told I should not take any more to the pills...I knew that myself. I was asked to turn the remainder of the pills to the clinic and they would return them to her. More stress on "do not take any more", and I am to have more b.p. and lung testing tomorrow morning. The Nurse insisted I have lunch and dinner at home, so supper just arrived. Much too much food. I am thankful for all the caring they give.

Mycheal, thank you for your kind words. I am feeling better at this time, so maybe the affects from the pills is wearing off. Keep well my friend, health is very valuable.

It has been a very quiet day, both here and in the S.S. It is so great to be able to come in and share with all of you, I never feel alone having my cyber family out there. I had better go eat some of that food.....

Off to the city today dh has 2 appointments today, sure hope the we don't get 80 -90 temperatures today. Yesterday was a great day for getting things done. Weeds that thought they could stay in my flower garden were taken out and given a new home in the garbage..next the shed got a clean out now there is a lot more room and items of no use we put in with the weeds or ready to put in the yard sale.

Jackie, how is Benji this morning?

June, hope your feeling better now .

Joan , hope everything is alright your way.

Will put some muffins in the hidey hole till Joan comes in.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, yesterday was great for weather and today looks like it will be the same. Was out on the porch most of the afternoon and was out there again after supper. Lots of talk and laughs. All that fresh air really gave me a good night's sleep. Only thing wrong with that is I am so stiff this morning it even hurts sitting here. Excuse me for not commenting. Going to take a shower and hope the water eases the stiffness.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be a hot day here in South Carolina as it is suppose to reach 91 degrees this afternoon.  This will be a full day for us as Pat has a dental appointment at 9:15 this morning.  I then need to make a trip to Walmart for a prescription and a couple of other items and later today are son will be over.  I expect we will all go out to eat this late afternoon or evening.

Molly, touching experience attending a military funeral.  It must be a difficult experience for Chap to conduct those funerals.

Jackie, it sounds like Benji went though a lot and will have to recover as anyone would having 12 teeth cleaned and work done on the gums.  I expect food is the last thing he is thinking about.  Don't beat yourself up over this.  You took him for regular appointments for checkups.  Be kind to yourself.

June, glad you saw the nurse and hope you hear from the doctor shortly.  Do they have an x-ray machine at your facility?

JaneS, will the Little Holligan be spending much time with you this summer?  You may be reaching the time in your life when you must slow down a bit and let others know when you get too tired.

Junee, glad to hear you are enjoying your iPad.  I would be lost without mine although my iPhone is a miniaturize of the iPad with the phone as an added feature.

Where is Joan? is there a reason as I am sure I haven't seen any posting from her telling us she wont be here today....I do hope Joan is alright....or maybe I had missed that she had to go on an early morning appointment....just not like her to be late...
........................................

Amy,and others who have asked over our Benji......he is more the Benji we know today, even looks more like him....Yesterday when we arrived they said they were going to take his drip out, so I am guessing he hadnt long come from the vet table, nor the anaesthetic....He looked real bad yesterday, hard to have recognised him.....This morning I crept towards his bed only to still find him in it where I left him last night, he didn't move and I was fearing the worst that he was still very weak and wouldn't touch his food but, as early as it was, I called out ( his hearing is not what it used to be, he is 13 ) TOILET, he got up, looked stronger, I could see he had a slight wag in his tail...I then called out DINNER , put a little vet recommended food paste on a flat saucer, he ate that, a little more I put down, then both dogs usual feeding time a couple hours later, done the same and added his two tablets, as soon as his ate that, a spoonful of food, I quickly put down some more, he ate that but struggled with his mouth near the end....R isn't allowed to give him outdoor exercise this morning, maybe a short outdoor walk later after dogs second meal....Benji has been in and out of our back garden......I can see the stitches loop drooping outside the bottom of his mouth both sides....vet gave us a chart showing the full set of dogs teeth and marked with a x the ones that have been taken out, the main tusk like teeth are still in....all in all there are 42 teeth, leaving a mere 30....Of course we still have his kidney problem to get sorted....
Oh and I keep telling Benji, things will get better....meaning, he has had his remaining teeth scaled, the infection is gone, and he should have a decent pair of gnashers....

Amy, if hubby's appointments are medical, I am hoping that all goes well....

I'm worried about Joan, too.  Very unlike her to not be here before the rest of us are even up.

June, I hope you will be feeling better today as that medicine clears your body.

We are supposed to see a little sunshine here today. The temp. is to be much warmer but the AC is working just fine.

Checking in early to see how Benji is doing, so happy he is better, Jackie.  No question that we hurt for them more than they hurt, for sure.  Quite an ordeal for him and impossible to explain why it is necessary.

Time to worry about Joan, she is never missing without warning us so am with all, prayers and worrying.

Good morning to all, I had my sliding door open all night so Tom & Tiger thought it fun to come to the screen to beg to come in, eat a few bites & back out..  kept me up & down until I finally got sleepy enough to close the door.  I feel a nap calling but will have breakfast first.

Kind of steamy day here, I'm afraid, but what the farmers will need to dry the fields so the combines can roll in.  The wheat is looking good, always a hold your breath time for farmers with storms that can flatten a field just when ripe.... or rain & muddy ground.

All join hands and say, "God Bless Joanie"..... and Every Friend..... :smitten:

Good Morning Everyone!

I too join in in hoping our Joanie is okay.  Hopefully early morning apmt.

Stormy weather forecast for today and tomorrow.  I don't know how many of you remember me posting about Medina Lake not far from my house and how empty is "was".  It is not 100 percent full and running over spillway and now everyone is worrying it will overtop to dam and cause problems.  Typical Texas weather.

Not much going on here, just the bad weather.

Good Morning All…

I was wakened at 6 a.m. with a tapping on my door. I called come in, and here is was, a tech to take a blood test, along with one of our nurses. Talk about service. The Nurse asked if I had been called about the test, and I said No. All went well, and I went back to a half sleep. Finally got up at 8 o'clock, and having my first cup of coffee.

Larry, No, we do not have an X-ray machine here. Blood tests and X-rays are taken by an outside firm. They arrange the time schedule when they have about a dozen or so patients whose Dr. ordered them done. All is done right in our rooms, the X-ray machine is on wheels and all the patient has to do is be there. Talk about service. I love it. They even bill my Ins. Co.

I just called Bis' phone number and there was no answer. So I will say a prayer for her safety.

Happy June Oneth.   :)

SO happy to read that June had been in contact with Joan and she's o.k.

Shirley,  the folks in the Texas panhandle are really generous with their storms - either sending them to you or to me.  However, I've noticed that quite a few are coming in from Colorado so maybe we need to speak to Denver Jenny about that.   :chatter:

Jackie,  I'm so glad that Benjie seems better this morning.  I'm sure we wouldn't want to eat either if we'd had that much dental work done!  Hope he continues to improve.

Nothing much going on around my house but it may pick up toward the weekend.  Miss Emily (athletic granddaughter) is working at the national college softball tournament being held in OKC from Friday until next Wednesday.     "Gammy's B&B" may be the easiest place to spend the night if she has to work games at night and again the next morning.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

LARRY - I smiled when I read your comment RE Chaps conducting funerals for Military personnel at Arlington Cemetery.  I'd posed that same comment to him many years ago, but he smiled and replied "Mom, the Lord blessed me with this gift to help families remember their "fallen" with love and pride for their service.  Of course it's NOT easy, but it's a blessing for me to Serve the Family and remember with great pride the Service their loved one gave to our Country."

A busy day for me as we are getting ready to fly to to VT/NH tomorrow. I'm a little slow today. I let myself get overtired on Tuesday. Sometimes I forget I'm not 35.  :) I'm looking forward to my high school reunion and seeing my family.

Good morning from another warm, hazy, summer's day in the Interior.

Farrah is still quirky and skittish, runs at the drop of a hat. However, she comes to herd me to the kitchen with little whines and chirps and hangs out in the bedroom doorway, to see if she can stay out or dash under the bed. Also, if I am in the bathroom, she runs, even from under the bed, to have her back stroked and her rump scratched.

She does not meow, use her claws aggressively, nor does she rub against you to mark you as hers or actually mark anything. I'm beginning to wonder if she had a mother to teach her these things? She does use the litter box, sometimes quite enthusiastically  in covering up her deeds, rather like those Eastern dances their men are so fond of! She also runs if you raise your voice, even if it isn't directed at her.

Yesterday I caught her trying to leap at my dangling shamrock plant and she ran and hid and hasn't gone close to the plant table since, (In my sight at least). This morning, I found her perched on the back of the toilet seat, against the back and she looked like she was investigating or trying to fish the water. She does get fresh food and daily water!  I have never seen a cat so different than the norm.

This morning I am expecting UPS and a package, my balcony greenhouse and a cat box with 18" sides and back sent from Amazon. I have been tracking and while their speed in delivery is good as usual, their trail is odd. It starts out in western Washington, goes to Dallas/Ft. Worth, Louisville, Ky and then on to Anchorage yesterday and today Fairbanks. All this from 5/28th till today, June first. Very odd trail.

Yesterday, I lost my balance and started to fall. I realized my face was heading towards the corner of the bedframe and had just enough time to twist away. In doing so, I scraped both knees, the right-hand palm, all very lightly. However, I took off a dollar bill sized patch of skin just below the elbow on the back of my right arm. So I am even stiffer than usual and quite cranky, as I couldn't sleep comfortably last night. This should heal quickly, though. It sent Farrah rushing under the bed for quite a bit, I guess she didn't like my language?

I think the reality is setting in on how I reacted when the vet or vet assistant, who brought out our dog took us inside the room and as casual as can be talked, when all of a sudden in his sentence he casually said " we took out 12 teeth...." It didn't immediately sink in, I looked at Rs face, pure shock, I remember R saying..." what " I said " how many? " vet repeated 12, I said in a harsh voice," what the h***l have you done to our dog.." we didn't bring him here to lose 12 teeth, " or words to that affect...followed by " was that really necessary...." conjuring up visions of Benji never playing tug with a toy again...or grabbing a tennis ball....to be told yes, his mouth was pretty bad...then I remember next thing I said, have you left any teeth, or how many have you left, to be told 30,.... that offered some relief to know he had more than I was picturing.......then came the icing on the cake, was the bill....more than double what I - we anticipated....

This laptop is now cleaned once again and secure - it goes through an update about weekly and takes about a half hour.  We tried to go to a local Denny's for breakfast and they were gone - very few restaurants like to serve breakfast anymore.  I wonder how many breakfasts I have cooked or even how many mom fixed in her years.  She made Hash Browns from boiled potatoes the previous nights so many times - yum.

Junee:  My condolences to the family and friends of the servicemen being returned to Australia.  Australians have always been very brave.

Sandy:  Summer is coming tomorrow here - I hope they put the A/C in the right window.  :)

Jane:  Can you cut back on one of your "duties"?  Just a bit?

Angel:  Quick thinking and that must have been quite the twist to miss a furniture post.

We put out a bird feeder two nights ago - the first morning, the entire thing was emptied probably by a squirrel or raccoon.  This morning, the entire feeder was found unbroken on the lower level of lawn - something is having a great time frolicking with the bird seed.  This is a war now - and Don is going to pin it down more.  We shall see who wins this war.  Thankfully, no bears in this area for quite a few years.   ;D

portable AC (versus the "Window" type.) ..

So next fall I may try to find one of

But I am all set of this Summer.   The Window

Carol, one of my responsibilities is over for the summer.  Today was the last half day of school for The Little Hooligan.  I don't have her for the summer.  She goes to what she calls "Day Camp" run by the Lewisburg Recreation Authority.  They have plenty of outdoor space, lots of indoor activities and the use of the community pool which is right in their back yard and the gym and hikes on the rail trail.  Lots of field trips and she has a great time.  And I have the summer off.  I miss her but it gives me a chance to regroup.

June, my prayers go with you.  You will be in good hands!  The Lord be with you!

I was out weeding yesterday and my neighbor across the street came over and helped me.  Then her husband brought the wheel barrow over and took all the weeds away.  He has a trailer load of his and mine to the "whatever they call it" where we are allowed to dump weeds.  It looks so nice out there!

The dogs are in the doorway telling me it's time to eat.  I guess I better go feed them before they start gnawing on me.

Enjoy your evening Everyfriend!

Well, I am so happy to see Joan's problem was with her computer health & not her own body!  Hope the "patch job" holds!

Patricia, Farrah sounds a lot like these cats.  Tom & Tiger have come a long way but poor little old LaurenKat still jumps & hides with any unexpected noise or movement.  I've said over & over, "it is awful that anything should be so afraid their whole life".   Tom was the one that my husband used to laugh because he was "polishing Cas' shoes" all the time, rubbing & "humming" as Cas called it (purring very loud).  He was grateful for their attention, Lauren was the one that sat on his lap or wanted to be tucked into his arm while he spent so much time in his LazyBoy.  I'm glad Farrah isn't crying at the door all the time, to go out.  After watching Lauren mourn those 3 years I won't even attempt to keep Tom & Tiger (or Lauren) in, except when traveling in the RV.  They don't like being kept inside but the change of scenery as they stand guard at windows all night, helps keep them content.  They like Walmart parking lots best, something going on 24/7.   Sorry about the fall... hope you heal fast.   :dizzy:

June, so pleased with how attentive your people are, nothing like room service!  Glad they caught the problem so quick... hey, you knew right away, didn't you?   Never fun in the hospital but at least you are nearer your son than before, right?  (Pollyanna just has to look for the good in the day)....  Keep us posted when you get a chance.  Thanks for the warning that you will be missing..... we might need to explain to our Joanie that she could have called you early this am to report her problem....  ;)

No naps today, went out shopping & came home with 2 pair of new shoes & some "footies" for summer wear.  Neither pair of shoes what I went looking for but exactly what I've been needing.... and one pair on sale!  My "less than 2 hours sleep" last night is not working, eyes are at half-mast & when I blink the lids want to stay down .... for just a minute, please.   :dontknow:

Hal, MY river was as high as I've seen it in the 30 years we've lived here & already back down within it's banks.  Got a real muddy spot next to the bank so will be a few more days before I venture out to feed the fish.  We needed the rain and now need to dry out for harvest.

Jackie, poor little Benji has gone through quite an ordeal, my heart just breaks but know he feels safe back with his loving family.  A vet bill here for all that surgery would be nearly the price of a new car.... hope your pet insurance covers all or most.  I never thought of carrying pet insurance before.   :aaah:

Better get busy, did not get the rest of my laundry done so must do a better job of planning my day tomorrow.   :tissue:

June, I am so sorry that you need to go to the hospital.  It's funny about potassium - or how different doctors handle the situation.  When Jim was low on potassium, his doctor had him eat greens only three days a week and when it got high, he had him eat greens twice a week.  My doctor prescribed some potassium pills for me - and I still am taking the diuretic.  I'll have to ask my doctor about that.  I suppose it depends on what he thinks is most important.

Kendrick does rub everything in the house including Tom and me.  I guess everything is now his "territory".

We had a good rain this morning and things have dried out since but we may get more rain overnight - a perfect time to get it.

Joan, I'm glad your absence was computer activated and not health related.

When I was taking a diuretic ,
I also had to take potassium pills.   when they took
me off the diuretic, they took me off the potassium
pills.   So far, so good.

I hope June gets home quickly.

Another good place to overnight
are in hospital parking lots.
I used to use Walmart when I
traveled all across the USA.  My
daughter used hospital parking lots.

Joan, good to come in 7.am this Thursday morning and see your face on the page....have to admit my concern grew as the hours went by, that was until our Junedrabek came on with the news that is was bad computer keeping you away...

Shirley, we have the number one " PetPlan " Insurance...I say number one, as expensive, and I guess the most popular name...But as all policies they don't cover everything and I have half doubts the cleaning of teeth is one of them but...as they done other things, took out teeth, dealing with infection, and now the more worrying problem of kidney low numbers, so its now playing the waiting game to see if they pay out to meet our bill at least half way, well that's what we are hoping.....our bill came to over £400...and there will be more to add on.....Oh and of course there is always that excess that comes out, plus an added 10% or 15% now he has become a senior dog...

Carol, don't forget to have your camera at the ready, when you catch it, make sure you name and shame it...the birdseed stealer...

Junedrabek, what can I say, the Idea is to keep oneself away from those hospitals, well I have always said, and I stick by that is, " we know our bodys better than any medics, we are the ones living in it, and daily.." You done right in taking yourself off these new pills when you did, I would hate to think the consequences if you hadn't, doesn't bare thinking about...

Amy, thank you, yes I will as soon as Benji will allow me to give him a kiss and a cuddle, Ok I can give him the odd gentle cuddle over his back...At times his mouth comes towards me in readiness to give me that quick kiss, then turns away, I tell him..." dont worry, mommy knows..." so I know he wants to but he cant, thats ok with me, I can wait....

Jane S, ha ha, nothing worse than starving doggies, I make it my pledge that whatever happens they will never be without food,.... boy there have been times we have gotten down low but, I will send R out to pick up a few tins until my order comes through, dont ever want it that the dogs start looking at me, and thinking, hm, " she looks interesting to eat..."

Angelface, Benji is on " Clinacin " antibiotic tablets, just looked it up and it is for infection in the mouth, so it may take a week or more before the infection is completely cleared.....I had just assumed they were pain killers..

Jenny, wishing Michelle all the best on her check up appointment...
.........................................................................

We will be off back to the vets early this morning, so he can be checked up on how Benji is doing...then on reading their after-care info, another second follow up should be on the cards...

I am still very concerned over our missing Sun, been a good 3 or 4 weeks since she last popped in...

The Not So Dumb Blonde

I came in to work early the other day and began hanging upside down from the ceiling. Just then one of my co-workers (she's blonde ... it'll be important later) came in and asked me what I'm doing.

"Shh," I said, " I'm a light bulb -- I'm acting crazy to get a few days off, as there is an out of town wedding I need to go to until Tuesday."

A minute later the boss walked by and asked me what I was doing.

"I'm a light bulb!" I exclaimed.

"You're going crazy," he said. "Take a few days off, and come back when you are less stressed."

With that, I jumped down and started walking out. My co-worker started following me and the boss asked where she was going.

"I can't work in the dark," she said.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was down in the 60s overnight and is only in the low 70s now.  We are supposed to have the mid 80s by early afternoon.  It's nice not to need the A/C most of the day.  Saves energy (and money) too.

I'll be off to WM to greet my public today and then hurry home to let the doggies out and run off to an eye appointment.

I hope you all have a pleasant day today...even June.  But I know she will.  She always makes the best of any situation.

Long been back from our early morning vet appointment....saw vet nurse, she asked questions, looked inside Benji's mouth, wasnt easy prising it open but as always he is such a good boy.....She is happy, said stitches are self dissolving and may take up to a couple of weeks....she ran off a short list of changes, if we notice any to take him back, otherwise all is ok....I touched on the kidney subject, of what it will entail, told they will probably take another blood test, if there is not much change it maybe down to changing his diet...she did mention kidney failure could cause extra drinking of water and weight loss, I quickly mentioned we just put him on the scales and I am concerned, in his rather drastic weight loss since last time we got him weighed only a few weeks ago...., his weight is still ok for his breed and he has been this weight before, just that its a heck of a sudden drop, in such a short time......Don't think I need to be worried over cancer, although previous vet and our new vet is aware Benji has a lump in his anal area, and that some place on one side of his body in the past a lump was there... just no one can find this lump now, oh they looked for it while he was under anaesthetic, but couldn't find it.....and the anal lump both set of vets were happy that it is harmless.....We have booked his kidney appointment for two weeks time...

Joan, oh I would love to " come work for the Lord...."

They have all just walked through the door after there outdoor morning walk, Benji came as usual looking for me, his tail was wagging and he sure looked happy, his first proper outdoor walk since he had his procedure done....

Good morning, junee.  The cable people will be back this afternoon, to replace all the cable in my house.

Janie--Good morning.  You have a pretty busy day.  I hope all those in your line at WM today are wearing a BIG smile.

Good morning/afternoon, Vanilla-Jackie.  Good to hear that Benji is making satisfactory processing healing after his procedure.

Amy--Good morning.  Chasing dust bunnies again? :)  I will be without my TVs and computer late this afternoon when they come to put in all new cable.

It is so good to see you back, Joan.  You are missed very much when we don't see your face the first thing in the morning.  I hope that replacing all of those cables will solve the problems you have been having with your computer and TVs.

I'm concerned about June.  A low potassium level can be life threatening so I'm very glad that she has been taken to the hospital where they can monitor her and correct the potassium deficiency rather quickly.  It is obvious that the diuretics that she was taking were not a good thing for her.  She was wise to stop taking them when she did.  I am keeping her in my prayers and I hope we soon hear that she is back home and doing well again.

Cloudy, humid and warm here today and I must be up and away to the grocery store.  At least, it isn't raining right now.  That is a welcome change.

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  It is a bit humid here in South Carolina and suppose to get up to about 89 degrees this afternoon.

Pat's dentist appointment yesterday turned out very well in that she did not need a new crown but the dentist was able to fix the problem without even needing to deaden her mouth to work on it.  It was a sizable bill but only a fraction of what a new crown would cost.

Yesterday afternoon we went to a new Chinese Buffet that opened not to long ago.  It is huge and has 9 serving tables, a Sushi Bar, and Hibachi counter and a Noodle shop as a part of the buffet. They advertise over 300 items on their buffet.  It was not the best I have ever had at a Chinese Buffet but we were there at the end of the lunch period and right before the dinner hour started and some of the food had been sitting on the buffet a little longer than it probably should have.  It was $7 for the lunch buffet so you certainly got your money's worth and $10 for the dinner buffet.

This morning I will take Pat's CPAP machine in to be checked as she is getting excess water in the hose from the machine. This place is just a couple of blocks from where I will be having coffee this my friends so will be handy.  I will then attend the Wisdom Class at church and that will likely be it for today.

Marilyn, hope you have a great vacation.  It is always nice to get away for a few days.  Is this to the same place you have gone the last couple of years?  Nice that you found someone to keep Freckles so he didn't have to be kenneled.

The following link is of some beautiful underwater photography at the Great Barrier Reef:  http://www.youtube.com/embed/mcbHKAWIk3I

Hal, it seems parts of Texas have had more than their share of bad weather.  The pictures of the flooding are terrible.

June, the x-rays and blood draws in your room is quite a nice service to you all.  So glad you heard from Joan and thanks for letting us know. No wonder you haven't been feeling well. Good that you are going to the hospital to get the treatment you need for the potassium level.  I am glad you had time to let us know.

Sandy, a number of years ago we had a portable air conditioner in our upstairs room where Stacey lived.  As i recall it worked well but you had to empty the drain pan fairly often.  We eventually replaced it with the heat pump for that area which provided both heat and cooling.

Joan,  Glad to see you back posting and the new cabling should take care of the problem.

Molly, no wonder Chaps is in the Chaplin service as he obviously has a kind and caring heart for people.

Jenny, what is a COSTCO Business Center?

I take the same diuretic that gave June trouble and I've been taking it for several years.  Last year my doctor gave me a prescription for a potassium medicine and my last blood test showed the potassium level was up.  I did not connect the potassium trouble with the pill but with the lack of salads and green vegetables.  Tom does a good job of cooking, and we do have asparagus and/or broccoli (I haven't noticed any worms) occasionally.  I buy salad mix but if Tom fixes lunch or we eat out, it doesn't get eaten.  I have to make a point of having a salad.  I learn something new every day.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well my Granddaughter just left for the airport, headed back to New York City.  From one of the biggest cities to one of the smallest towns, Del Rio, and back again. She was anxious to get back to NYC.  Such a change.

I have a doctors apmt that I have to leave for pretty quick, so it has been a rush this morning.  Got to see about my BP.  The nurse didn't like it (bp) when I got the implant last week.  Also I want to check my machine against theirs this morning.

Everyone have a good day.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I sure do hope new cable solves my problems.  I am concerned about June, too, and am saying extra prayers for her.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Hope you are feeling good today.

Good morning, Larry.  Our weather is the same as yours--HOT and HUMID.  My goodness.  That Chinese buffet certainly had many choices.  Thanks for the link--beautiful.

Mary Ann--Good morning.  I know I should eat more salads/greens, but when buying for just one person it's hard.  I don't eat the stuff up fast enough, and it ends up getting tossed out.

Good morning halkel.  There sure is a difference between NYC and most small towns.  I hope all goes well at the doctor, and you can do something to bring your BP down.

JUNE  prayers go with you to the hospital.

JACKIE  glad Benji is doing better today.

SANDY  I am one who does not like the portable AC's. I don't think they cool as good as the window ones.

JOAN  just happy it was not YOU that was sick. So great seeing you back this morning.  Love Signs on Church Properties, will be sending this one to others. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Joan, I am able to buy a 6-oz pkg of salad greens and that is what I used to buy and what I buy now.  All stores don't carry that size.  I add celery, tomato, carrots and other veggies to it, along with grated cheese and dressing.  My salads are not low-cal but they make up a meal for me.

I feel so fortunate to check in here with so many good people.

No camera at the ready, we were sleeping when the racoon family came for the bird feeder - they managed to take off the top of the feeder & scoop out at least a cupful of bird seed.  Those imps!

Thinking of June - a friend of mine has twice been rescued for low potassium - it sounds like it is more common in aging and athletes - we are all athletes, are we not?  We are young at heart!

Mary Ann--To tell the truth I don't know the ounces in the bag of greens I buy, but adding other ingredients, it goes bad before I can eat all of it.

angelface--I sure hope the cable folks fix things, too.  Right now the picture on all 4 of my TVs is pixelated.  GRRRR.......

Carol--Those racoons are pests, IMO.

Good Morning,

It's a "glarry" day in central Oklahoma.  Sunglasses are too dark and doing without is too bright.  Even so,  I managed to do a few errands this morning and have one more to do after lunch.

Yesterday evening, I had two unexpected visitors.   I had just put my dinner in to heat when #1 son walked in.  So I put my dinner back in the fridge and we went to a nearby restaurant.   The lemon-pepper grilled tilapia and fresh fruit surely tasted better than my leftovers - especially with the nice visit.

The other visitor wasn't quite so welcome.   I saw a rabbit in the flower bed where the Hostas are.  Shooed it away and sprayed those plants and all the other new ones with the stinky rabbit repellent.  Couldn't see that it had begun nibbling on anything - and I hope it gets the message.

I'm sorry that June had to go to the hospital - but think it might be A Good Thing that she will be observed for at least a little while by medical professionals.  I was concerned about her eating habits - remembering when my Mother was eating the right things but wasn't eating enough food to keep her electrolytes at the level they should have been.

I had low potassium years ago on that high protein diet for weight loss.  Had to take some purple liquid medicine to correct that.   Now, I have to keep an eye on it because my digestive system cannot handle raw veggies and I can't eat salads.   "Always something"......

Joan,  I hope cable folks can get you set up in short order!    Our Cox cable co.  is switching to all-digital and, if we don't get a DVR mini-box for each one of our tvs, we won't get any stations at all after some date in July.  I need two - one replacement and one new because one set is connected to cable but not for the digital stations.  Will have to pay for the replacement but the other one is free for a year.  However, at that time, the combined charge will be $3.00 less than what I'm currently paying for just one.
At least, that's what the tech said - and I wrote down her name so I can call and fuss if the charge turns out to be more than she told me it would.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Callie--We have lots of rabbits in this development, and I often see them nibbling for their dinner.  It's so nice your son lives so close and can stop occasionally to go out to eat.  My cable company switched to all digital about a year ago and I had to get adapters for three of my TVs.  To be honest, I don't know what they cost.

Welcome Livykat1.  We always like to get to know new participants.  Come back often and join in, OK?

JOAN  maybe I would like the portable one better if it really was portable and I could move it to the bedroom at night. Would not be in the way there because there is an alcove where the window is. In here it is in the way. With the hose it sticks out more than 2 feet from the wall and the size of it adds another 2 feet. Sure cuts into the size of the room. Hope all those new cables are in now and you have no more problems.

MARY ANN  I have bought different kinds of bagged salads and thrown out a lot of them. Then by the time I add different things it gets expensive to throw away.

PATRICIA  today was another low humidity day and as long as I stayed out of the sun I enjoyed sitting on the porch again. I walk the parking lot in the morning before it warms up but would have to go after supper time after the sun starts to set but I am too tired by that time.

CAROL  I had a bungy cord  holding down the lid on my trash barrel and those radoons got the cover off and left the cord. Put a heavy rock I could hardly move on the cover and next morning it was on the ground. I had a net bag that I put some mothballs in and tied it to the handle, no more pesky racoons.

CALLIE  Cox did that with the cable boxed here last year. Since mine was a new one I did not have to do anything and I only have the one TV.

LIVYKAT1  hello and welcome to the Soda Shoppe. We are a friendly group so come by often and tell us about yourself.

LLOYD  another year of having fresh turkeys. How many for you this year?

DON  I received a wonderful gift from a friend today. 2 Disks of Chopin, already listened to one of them, and 3 of music from the '40's, the music I grew up listening to. I am in heaven listening to the first one now. Sure bring back memories.

WOW where is everyone? No one here after Don's post before 4pm.

Good night everyone.

Gloria, when I lived alone and did my own shopping, I bought the smallest salad selection the store carried and it is 6 oz.  There is greater variety in the larger bags, but I can't finish a large bag before things go bad, usually in a week.  The one I get has red cabbage and carrot slivers besides pieces of iceberg lettuce.  Since it is the only show in town, I buy it.  I add celery, onion, tomato, grated cheese to it besides dressing.  I am not used to cooking for a family as you were so I am more receptive to things like the salad greens in a bag.  My salads are not low-cal but are good for me.

Welcome from Kansas, Livykat1..  I am the real cat lady in here right now.... okay, with the most, anyway!
I live in Wichita.  Since some of us have come back with new names after the "crash" not long ago, are you really a newby or using an alias?   :cat: :angel4: :angel3: :angel2:   (The real me~).    No groans, please!

It is steamy today, get ready for a long summer of whining about the heat, right Gloria?

Joan, I have 3 children/spouses/7 grands/3 spouses & 4 great-grands & "2 in the oven" due before the end of the year.  I can't count how many times we have nearly all been together so far this year & expect everyone around for the 4th of July, births, anniversaries & every last one to show for Thanksgiving for a group photo.  I luv 'em but this has been a super busy year starting with a graduation last December, Christmas, etc..  Little Amelia was 2 this week & Hadley will be 3 soon, I was relieved when one birthday party was postponed until the July 4th party!  Like Erma Bombeck used to say, "I'd have a nervous breakdown if I had time to clean the closets"....  I really thought she was writing about MY life... when her daughter out grew a skirt in the laundry basket.  Mine did, too, was waiting to be pressed & hem put in... & found it didn't fit & had never been worn!  Life is always a couple months ahead of me.   :crazy2:

Hi, Gloria.... mothballs also helped to keep the skunks out of the berm!  I just threw a hand full in & around & they didn't like it, in fact, I have not seen any this year.   I have "Hootie" owl in the pool area to keep the birds out.  They left a "flight path" coming over the house & where they normally would land they see the own & poop purple mulberries & put their noses back in the air & swoop over the owl.  So many came through the first day or so they left behind streaks & streaks... not a pretty sight.

Mary Ann, being alone now I find the salad bar in the grocery store works best for me.  I used it when my husband was alive for all the extras, but always had a head of ice berg lettuce & tomatoes in my frig.  I bought a head of lettuce & tomatoes this week planning to fix tacos but nobody wanted to come for tacos so I've been eating salads & will be throwing away about half the head.  I used up the rest of the Angus lean beef & a package of Italian sausage (minus the casing, scrambled so half & half for the meat sauce) that I cooked last night.  Cooked the pasta today & had son & wife over for lunch.  I stayed up until midnight-1:00 am to do the laundry I didn't get done during day time... & cooked while waiting.

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm not having a particularly good day but I'm not going to bore you with the details.  I had to cancel my eye appointment because I didn't have a ride.  This particular dr. will not do the procedure unless the driver is with you and signs in.  I rescheduled but the same thing will probably happen the next time.  My drivers are working and even if I drove myself there, I'd have to wait about 2 hours after I'm finished to be picked up.  And that's the best part of my day.

I'm going to bed early and try to wake up happier tomorrow.  So I'll say...

Good Night Everyfriend.  God Bless Us, Every One!

Johnny’s Teacher

Johnny's teacher paid a visit to his house one day. When little Johnny opened the door, she asked "Are your father and mother in, Mr. Morton?"

"They was in, but they is out now," he answered.

The teacher gasped, "Why, Mr. Johnny Morton, it is 'They were in, but they are out now.' Where's your grammar?"

"She's upstairs taking her nap."

Food For Thought

Eternal Life: There's More To It Than You Think
(By Andrew Wommack)

I once had an employee ask me what my most important teaching was. I didn't know how to answer. I think they're all important. Everything the Lord has shown me works together with other truths to make a whole. I said I couldn't single out just one.

This man had been miraculously saved from a cocaine addiction, and he was listening to my teachings day and night. He wanted to get to the bottom of everything, or to the core of Christianity. So, he finally asked, "If you only had one opportunity to minister to a person, what would you teach?"

I still had to think for a moment, but quickly came up with an answer. I would share the meaning of true eternal life. That may not sound very profound or even foundational, but that's because most people don't know what the Bible means when it talks about eternal life.

Someone might say, "Eternal life is living forever." But that's not it. No one ceases to exist when they die. Everyone lives forever in either heaven or hell. "Well then, eternal life must be living forever in heaven instead of hell." That's not it either.

John 3:36 says, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Everlasting life is a present-tense possession. It's not something that begins when we get to heaven. There are a number of scriptures that speak of everlasting life as something we possess in this life (John 4:14; 5:24; 6:27; 6:40, 47).

So, the question remains, "What is everlasting life?" This is very important. John 3:16 says this is the reason that Jesus came.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Many people have mistakenly thought that the goal of salvation is the forgiveness of sin to avoid hell. That's not what John 3:16 is saying. Sure, not perishing in hell is an important part of what Jesus came to do. He accomplished that by paying the debt for all our sins, past, present, and even the ones we haven't committed yet.

If that's all there is to salvation, that's more than any of us deserve, and it would still be worth preaching. But salvation is much, much more than getting our sins forgiven so we can go to heaven instead of hell.

Let me say it this way. If all you did was ask Jesus to forgive your sins so you wouldn't perish in hell, then you are missing out on eternal life.

Sin was a barrier that stood between us and a holy God. It had to be removed. That's exactly what Jesus did, and He did it well. Sin is no longer standing between God and man (2 Cor. 5:17). But to what does that entitle us?

Sure, it entitles us to live forever with God in heaven. That's wonderful. But there are tremendous benefits right here, right now, on earth. Eternal life is one of those benefits.

Jesus defined eternal life for us in John 17:3. That verse says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

Eternal life is knowing God. You may be disappointed with that definition. You think you know God and you still aren't satisfied. You want there to be something more. The key lies in understanding what the Bible means by this word "know."

This was speaking of much more than just intellectual knowledge. It can be seen in hundreds of Bible scriptures, like, "Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain" (Gen. 4:1). Adam didn't just know Eve intellectually. That won't produce children. He had an intimate, personal experience with her. This was speaking of a knowing between a man and a woman in the most intimate way possible.

Likewise, when Jesus said eternal life was knowing God, He was speaking of having an intimate, close, personal relationship with God. That's awesome!

Many people believe Jesus died to forgive their sins, but they still don't have a close, personal, intimate relationship with their Father God. They think that is reserved for heaven. They are content to muddle through life singing songs about how, when we all get to heaven, what a day that will be.

That is not to take anything away from heaven, but we are supposed to have eternal life (close, intimate, personal relationship with God our Father and Jesus Christ His Son) right now. It's not "pie in the sky by and by" but rather "steak on your plate while you wait."

Jesus said in John 3:16 that God loved the world so much, He gave His only begotten Son so those who believed on Him wouldn't perish but have everlasting life. If all you have done is believe on Jesus so you won't go to hell, then you are missing out on the everlasting life the Lord wants to have with you right now.

Why is this so misunderstood? It is because the church has changed the message of salvation. They have placed a period after the word "perish" in John 3:16. They have told the world that the reason God sent His Son to die for their sins was so they wouldn't perish, PERIOD. That excludes the true message of eternal life and intimate relationship with God as the goal of salvation.

Faith comes from hearing God's Word (Rom. 10:17). If we don't hear that Jesus came to bring us back into intimate relationship with God, then we won't have faith for that and we won't experience it. This describes the modern-day church to a tee.

We have many people who have come to the Lord and received the forgiveness of their sins, but they are saved and stuck. They are just waiting for heaven so they can really start living. That is missing the main point of salvation.

If there was no afterlife, if there was no heaven or hell, John 3:16 reveals that Jesus would still have come and died for our sins so we could once again have an intimate relationship with Him and His Father right now, in this present evil world (Gal. 1:4).

This was one of the main differences between the first-century church and our modern church. Those people knew God intimately. They had a relationship with the Lord that wasn't waiting to start in heaven, but was working in them while they were still in this world.

They didn't have the advantages of radio, television, internet, or any other modern means of communication. They never even put a bumper sticker on a camel. Yet, these believers turned the known world upside down with the truths of the Gospel in just thirty years (Acts 17:6). They impacted their world much more than we are impacting our world today. Why?

They had such a depth of relationship with a Living God that it was contagious. In Rome, Christians knew their God so intimately that they sang His praises as they were burned at the stake. There are historical accounts of Nero the emperor sticking his fingers in his ears and saying, "Why must these Christians sing?"

They had much more than a doctrine and a hope. They had a present-tense relationship that allowed them to endure with joy terrible atrocities. There are historical accounts of Romans, when witnessing the joy of these Christians who were being martyred, jumping out of the stands and rushing to them. They knew they would be doomed to the same fate, but they willingly accepted death so they could know God in the same close, intimate, and personal way as these Christians.

Let me ask you this question. It's not intended to condemn you, but to enlighten you. How many people would die to have what you have? Is anyone envious of your relationship with the Lord? If not, then may I suggest to you that you aren't experiencing eternal life as the Bible describes it and as our Lord Jesus died to give you.

This isn't something for the select few. This is normal Christian living. In fact, if this isn't your experience, you aren't really living. This is what drove the Apostle Paul (Phil. 3:10) and all the early Christians. It's still what drives victorious Christians today. It's all about personal relationship with a Person, not just some doctrine.

Good morning everyone.

Another lovely day in the making here. Went to sleep with the smell of lilacs drifting in my window..soon they will be over with but until then I am enjoying the scent.

Nothing planned here for today but house hold chores. We ordered another load of wood for next week so next week will have some wood piling.

I am wondering how June is doing..

Jackie, how is Benji? That is so sad about the child..

Livy, welcome to Soda Shoppe

Gloria, no need for a/c here but I am sure there will be a few days we will need to run it.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The doggies got me up early but I took a short snooze on the sofa after they went out and did what they had to do and then had a treat.  They were very good.  They gave me an extra hour.  I slept very well last night with the windows open and the fan on low.

I don't know what I'm going to be up to today but I suspect that part of it will be doggie baths.  They both have a distinct "doggy odor" right now and Annie who is cream colored, looks a bit darker than usual.  Next weekend, my grandniece (who is also my God daughter) is celebrating her "Sweet Sixteen" birthday and I'm hoping to feel like making the trip to help her celebrate and to have a visit with my sister.  And the doggies should be clean for the trip.  And if that happens, I'll be changing my bed, too.  That should keep me out of trouble!

I hope you all have a day filled with the things you enjoy doing.  Amy, I envy you the lilacs.  Ours have been over for a while and I do love them so.

Good morning Vanilla/Jackie.  What a sad story!!

Amy--Good morning.   I love the smell of lilacs, but they sure don't last long.  I have been wondering about June, too and praying for her.

Good morning, Janie.  It'd be nice if it cooled down enough so that I could open windows and get some fresh air in the house.  That'll be great if you can go to your grand niece/goddaughter's sweet 16 party.

Good morning everyone, a cloudy start to the day with showers on and off all day in the forecast.

MARY ANN  I have lived alone for more than 40 years and got used to cooking/buying for just me.  I would get the bag of salad  mixes and add all the things to it I liked. Would eat  it before it went bad but now I have no appetite so it is a waste for me to buy t. If I was at the market early and saw them bringing out the different trays for the salad bar I would get what I liked from there but I would not touch anything there if all the traywere there for awhile. Too many others hhandling the tongs and just drop them back with the handles in the food. Who knows how clean those hands were.

SHIRLEY  thank goodness you are not an angel yet. We want you around for a long time yet. You and me both complaining about heat and humidity. I am ready for September already. I used to use mothballs outside to keep a lot of critters away, now cannot find any place that sells them.  My daughter and SIL throw some around in their future home before they head back to Ca.  They didn't at first and found critters inside when they got there. After they  started doing that no more critters. Today is the last day of work for both of them. How many couples retire on the same day? She has been getting a lot of surprises at school this week.  She was called into the office one day and then told to go to the cafeteria/assembly. Most of the school was there and the kids handed her cards and one teacher had a big poster that kids signed. One boy wrote that the spelling bee she had was the best thing ever, of course he was that won. She has been at that school longer than any of the others there. Always has gone above her job and the principal and secretary keep saying she cannot leave. I know she will miss being with the kids even if they drove her crazy at times.

JANE  oh do I know the problems with getting a ride to an appointment. Have a better day today.

LLOYD  good knowing your turkey has not been fed all the things they put in feed for animals these days.

JOAN  oh boy breakfast looks so yummy this morning. Good chuckle, typical teacher. Food for thought is one to read over several times, just copied it. Thank you for today's goodies.

JACKIE  that is so sad, what an adorable little boy.

AMY  I never had my scent of lilacs this year. I sure missed them, too. Last couple of days have been nice here, no AC and the fans took care of moving air around.

JANE  you could never be in trouble.

Good Morning Everyone, here in the Soda
Shoppe,  from the foggy and cool, rocky
coast of Maine.    It is in the high 60's
(Fahrenheit ) and suppose to move into
the low 70's  and become  cloudy later on.

Since my AC is now perched in my window,
I no longer worry that the heat and humidity
will soon be coming.

I see that Texas has been hit badly
with flooding...   I wonder if Hal has
been adversely affected?    From my
weather map it certainly looks like
he very well could be.

I hope that Hal checks in and let's
us know how he is doing.

I hope that we hear some good news
from June pretty soon.
:smitten:

All is well here.  I am getting back to my
old habit of re organizing ...  If
I could only keep things as "orderly"
as I can make them ...
:tickedoff:

But I can't and that is an old story and
just my crazy way of doing things.

Have a good day,
Everyone!

Gloria, with your daughter and SIL retiring at the same time, does that mean their Arizona home is ready for them to move there?

I love the smell of lilacs too but they were the start of four years of allergy desensitization many years ago.  I had both lavender and double white at my childhood home but haven't had any since.  I would if I could, but I don't take care of outside stuff at this condo.

Hi everyone on what is starting out to be a very warm day getting up to 93 degrees this afternoon. I don't plan on going anywhere today unless we go out for lunch as this is the day the housekeeper is here and that is often what we do on housekeeper day.  Yesterday was a very busy one.

I got in my PT Cruiser to leave for coffee only to find the battery had apparently died as it wouldn't turn over the engine. So I took the other car to coffee and to have her CPAP equipment checked but she needed the car around 11:30 so missed my usual Wisdom group at the church.

The check of the CPAP equipment showed there was a fault with the warming unit and a call to the company tech department advised the unit needed to be replaced.  So we went to the place she had gotten it and they replaced the entire CPAP machine.  That turned out to be very easy and quick.  On the way home we stopped at COSTCO and had lunch/dinner at their snack bar as it was already 2:30 in the afternoon.  I came home and took a nice nap and we had a quiet evening watching Netflix.

Joan, I did feel fine yesterday and today is starting out the same.  I hope today finds you feeling OK.  Pat and I eat lots of salads although Pat doesn't enjoy making them.  I will sometimes put them together.  The talk about salads makes me think that going to Ruby Tuesday's for lunch and having the salad bar sounds good.

Livykat1, I also want to add my welcome.

Gloria, moving the portable one would be quite a task because as I remember you had to put an exhaust hose into the window and that would have to be moved.  Could you run a fan in the room with the air conditioner pointed into the bedroom and get some cool air in there?  What a nice tribute for your daughter.  Will they be moving to Arizona soon?

Sandy, if you kept everything orderly what would you have to re-organize?  :)

Shirley, you certainly have big family gathering and that must be wonderful.  Our family is now down to Pat and I and Scott to get together.  You certainly do stay very busy and I bet you are a wonderful cook.  Getting salad from a deli salad bar at the grocery store is a good idea as avoids having to throw out fixings that get too old.

JaneS, sure hope today is a better day for you.  Having bad days helps us appreciate the good ones.

Jackie, that is a sad thing when a parent kills a child.  We heard of it fairly often when we lived near Atlanta and just a couple of days ago there was a case in Augusta, Georgia, which is just across the river from where we now live.

Amy, we don't have lilacs down here but had them in Missouri where I grew up and they are beautiful.

Good morning, Gloria.  How nice that your SIL and daughter are retiring the same day.  Obviously Regina was very well liked, and now they are  paying tribute to her and her years of dedication at that school.  When you mentioned moth balls it brought to mind our next door neighbor in Syracuse.  She detested dogs/cats coming near her plantings and was told to put moth balls around everything.  One early evening she and I were standing chatting between her house and ours.  Joe (2 at the time) was out there with me.  As fast as scat he scooted a couple feet and ate a mothball.  Well--you know the routine--had to give him Ipecac.  It took three doses to get him to upchuck.

Sandy--Good morning.  Good your a/c is installed so when it's too warm you can be cooled.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  Four years is quite a long time for allergy shots.

Larry--Good morning.  Our weather is much like yours.  Will you have to get a new battery for your car or can it just be charged?  Glad you are feeling good today.

Good Morning,

I hope Joan doesn't give demerits for w**k done because a granddaughter is coming.    Miss Emily (the athletic one who goes to OSU) is working at the College Women's Softball tournament being held at the AWSA Stadium in OKC.   Her first stint is tonight and tomorrow.   My house is closer to the stadium than her parent's house, so she's - as she put it -  "checking into Gammy's B&B" about midnight and has to be back at the stadium by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
The guest room bed hasn't been slept in for a while so I have to make it up.  Then I plan to make muffins for her breakfast in the morning and, probably, some cookies for her bedtime snack.

Yesterday,  I got some nice looking fresh green beans, and onion and some small potatoes. Might have gotten some ham to cook with them but remembered I have bacon in the freezer that needs to be used.
On a whim,  I looked on-line for a way to do them in a crock pot/slow cooker.  Found a recipe that looks good, so that's also on my To Do List.

Hoping to hear something from/about June sometime today.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Well, I had a taker for my set of English Bone China.  My next down the line granddaughter wants it but not until she gets a house.  I told her she better get a house soon because I'm not getting any younger.  But I have put her name on them and took a picture to send her with the table set with a place setting and the gold flatware that it was bought to match.  That entailed polishing a table setting of the flatware because it's been stored so long.  And when I sent the picture, I suggested that she might want to put her dibs on the flatware too since they go together.  She did that.  And now I started to polish it all but I think I'm going to tell her that a brand new bottle of polish is also part of her inheritance and she can polish the rest herself.

NOW the doggies get their baths!

No news from June yet!

Welcome Livy!

Good Morning Everyone!

Gloria, Moth Balls can be had at: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=moth+balls&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amoth+balls (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=moth+balls&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amoth+balls)

I had never thought about moth balls to keep critters at bay, cheap and easy way to get rid of and keep things from under foot.

Jackie, like Larry said seems we are always reading about ham to small children.
Two were shot here in San Antonio a day or so back, one died the other in serious condition.  The both were not the targets but the damage in shootings involving punks settling things with guns.

Joanie, your food for thought sure made me think.  I also lifted it and sent it on its way to others I know will read and think about.  Thanks.

Janie, I hope your spirits are up today.  Of course polishing flatware, I really don't think will to uplifiting,  ::)  ;)

Sandy, we have been avering over two inches of rain a day, as measured in my el cheapo rain gauge, but the only problem I have is that a rain soak gate wont open, which means to move anything out of the back yard I have to use the backdoor to the garage or patio door.  Some areas are having flooding problems but so far no major problems.  Wife had to use frontage roads yesterday to take granddaughter to airport and then granddaughter had her flight cancelled and had to take a later flight, but understand it was from mechanical problems, she didn't get in to Newark until midnight and and had to get a very expensive cab to her home.  She was suppose to have landed at LaGuardia (sp) at noon yesterday, which is not far from where she lives.

Well guess I need to make some medical appointments and start that blasted merry-go-round again.  Sheeesh, I had all that junk they always want.  Blood, xrays and sundry other things.

More rain forecast for today and tomorrow and hopefully we get some settled weather after that.  Not fussing, excess is re-charging aquifer and it is higher now than for a long time.  Of course the powers to be and environmentalist are screaming we need to keep all the regulations in effect.

Lloyd tried calling you yesterday and saw where you had tried.  phone tag.

Everyone have a good day.

Janie--Lucky granddaughter to get your china and flatware.  When I was getting ready to move here, I asked my kids if they wanted the china, crystal, sterling flatware etc.  Linda wanted the flatware, and the rest went in the estate sale.

halkel--More tests?  For the same malady or something different?  Glad you haven't had much damage from all the rain TX has been getting.

I started my official cardio therapy at the hospital, although most of what I do there is what I do at home on a daily basis.  I'm up to a mile a day on the treadmill in under 30 minutes.  My kinesiologist asked me how fast I could go on the treadmill, and when I told her 2.2 miles per hour she said that must be an incorrect reading because it was too fast for my condition. So when I started and got it up to 2.2 she couldn`t believe it, but she believes it now.

Amy when I saw your comment about laundry blowing in the wind I realised that it`s been years since I saw such a sight. A London city bylaw forbids outdoor clotheslines. I guess they prefer we use energy instead of nature`s way.

Hal we just had trial end yesterday for a mother who stabbed her 8 year old daughter several times because she thought the devil possessed her. The mother was found not guilty because of insanity. After several surgeries the child survived. I wonder what emotional scars she will carry

Joanie, I've been asking them for about 10 years if anyone wants my china.  I ordered it MANY years ago when my husband and I were in London and it has appreciated in value a great deal since then.  No one seemed to care much about it but it turns out, no one wants to say they want anything of mine until they are sure I'm finished using it.  I threatened to sell it on EBay and Courtney said a resounding "NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT!"  And she admitted that she really wants it.  But she's living in a small apartment with not much storage space.  I'm going to get a plastic tub, write her name all over it and pack it up for her.  There will be no doubt where it is supposed to go if I'm not here to say so.  And since I chose it to go with the gold flatware that I received for wedding presents, she gets that, too.  She's delighted!

Dryer just buzzed.  Back later.  Save my seat!

Radioman--Good for you.  You must be very diligent about doing the rehab at home and at the hospital.

Hi Sandy.

Janie--Most all of my china, crystal, sterling flatware etc. were wedding gifts.  Over the years I filled in a few things I was missing.  Still--flatware was all that was wanted.  I hear the couch calling, but have a couple things to do before I answer.:)

Been on our afternoon tv news, still no further as to what happened but, the sad thing is, the house is right next door to a Methodist Church hall, same church I was toying on going to...

Yes it is terrible when we hear of these tragedies involving innocent children, especially when it happens near to, or on your doorstep....
...................................
Been trying to book hairdressers, been toying between two, just had to phone and check parking distance to shop door.... ....opticians, again I have whittled it down to a choice of two, my eyes are now due for their annual testing, annual now since my MS diagnoses...... and pet groomers,..... and now been looking online for a local seamstress without much luck....Still awaiting Insurance company to complete carpet work in our bathroom,.... someone from Insurance spoke to R this morning, told him how much claim he will receive depending on whether he takes cash or whether they do the carpeting....R also waiting on decorators who said thy would be doing our outside work on our parkhome this month, we haven't heard from him giving us a date....Well I got a grooming date appointment, with a different groomer from the one who came to our rescue, not sure I've done right, we shall see, but Toby's not due for another 4 or 5 weeks.....And the seamstress, just looking to find someone who does alterations, taking up hems, as I got rid of my sewing machine before we moved, wish I had brought it with me now, but no sense in buying a basic one as the cheaper and basic ones often lack the integrated needle threader, would not be able to do that manually....got a very long light quilted dressing gown to take up, and a couple of too long jersey skirts, dont want to go cutting the dressing gown about myself by trying to sew the hem by hand.....as that was expensive, wouldn't want to mess that up.....
All these places just happen to be in the heart of busy Dorchester, which would entail a fare bit of walking to.....Still waiting for one seamstress place to get back to me....
................................

My first husband had quite an extensive vegetable garden when we lived in New Jersey.  We found we were feeding the rabbits, so tried all sorts of ways to deter them.  One solution that was suggested to us was moth balls.  So one evening after work we spread mothballs profusely all over the garden.

The next morning we woke to the sound of grackles hollering.  To our surprise, a couple dozen of the birds had removed the mothballs from the garden and were cavorting in the back yard playing with them - tossing and catching and then holding in the beak and grooming with them.

:) Good morning from a partly cloudy/partly sunny day from the Interior. We are expected to get into the middle seventies today with the warmer weather still just a fond wish. But the upside is, no new fires from lightening, humans or otherwise. We do have sixty fires going, however, they were from 2015, just buried deep in the underbrush and forest leaves over the winter.

Farrah evidently enjoys her turkey with giblets breakfast this morning. She's finished all of it and licking her chops!  ;)

Good morning and welcome, Livy!

Jeanne, those Grackles must have been quite a surprise after all your work! Did you finally find a garden solution?

Yes, we did finally find a solution, but no one would believe it.  A friend had returned from the west where the big jackrabbits were the problem.  He told us they were kept at bay with gallon jugs of water.  Didn't sound reasonable, but all we needed was to find a restaurant (or my husband's choice, a bar) where we could get an empty gallon glass jar.  Hotel/restaurant size mayonnaise or bar size pickled eggs....   We filled it with plain water and placed it in the middle of the garden - believe it or not,  no more rabbits.

It would be a problem to find a glass jar today - they're all plastic and not clear so I don't think they'd work.  But for anyone pestered by rabbits it might still be worth a try.

Now I use the mothballs on my 30 ft gutter that runs along the porch. Birds want to build their nest every April in about 3 areas of it. When first I put them in the use to just pick them up and throw them out. This spring I put some pieces of Chicken wire up over them. Birds have given up on me now. All are gone.  Now I get mine at the Dollar Tree.

I never buy the salad in the bags. Never know how long been in there. Easier if you are adding anyway to just buy a lettuce fresh. I just buy the Boston as they are small. Add what I want to it.  Soon the Tomatoes and things will be from Illinois farmers so will start eating more salads then.

Vanilla-Jackie--It sure is a chore to find all new services when you move, I know.

Jeanne Lee--So much for the mothballs.  They turned out to be toys for the grackles.  I checked and Amazon has one gallon clear glass jars.

JeanneP--I find a head of lettuce goes bad before I can eat it all.

There is a "use by" date on the salad I get and as I've said, it is a small size so I can finish it in a week.

Today is Dot's birthday, so Tom, Terry and I took her out for lunch.  It is a much more satisfying gift than to buy something she doesn't need.  She enjoyed it.

Jeanne thanks for telling me, us, about the garden solution. We have snowshoe hares here as well as regular type rabbits, but the biggest issue is moose who love gardens! People build eight-foot fences outside of town and they still jump over them. In town, they use various means, usually not that helpful. How do you chase a 1200 pound or heavier moose out of your lettuce?

MaryAnn, I'm glad that Dot and the rest of the family enjoyed her birthday luncheon! I have one scheduled today with friends, but I think they expect me to pay for my own, darn! I slept until ten, just an hour ago but I was awake almost twenty-four hours yesterday, finally got to sleep around one am and was awakened by the fire alarm going at two forty-five am! I just had one of those nights.

for all my golfing friends.
You guys have watched golf tournaments on TV and have seen the special visual effect that traces the flight of the golf ball.

This little GIF demonstrates why amateur golfers don't use Pro Tracer.

and

ABSOLUTE LAWS OF GOLF

*LAW 1:  No matter how bad your last shot was, you should have Inner Peace knowing that a worst one is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime.*

*LAW 2:  Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former.*
*LAW 3:  Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic.  Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water. Expensive clubs have been known to be partly made with this most unusual natural alloy also.*

*LAW 4:  Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play.  If one does, the tree is breaking a law of the universe and should be cut down.*

*LAW 5:  The higher a golfer's handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor.*

*LAW 6:  A golfer hitting into your group will always be bigger than anyone in your group. Likewise, a group you accidentally hit into will consist of a football player, a professional wrestler, a convicted murderer and an IRS agent -- or some similar combination.*

*LAW 7:  All Drivers are demon-possessed.  Your Mother in Law does not come close.*

*LAW 8:  Golf balls from the same "sleeve" tend to follow one another, particularly out of bounds or into the water.  See LAW 3.
*LAW 9:  The last three holes of a round will automatically adjust your score to what it really should be.*

*LAW 10:  Golf should be given up at least twice per month.*

*LAW 11:  All vows taken on a golf course shall be valid only until sunset.*

*LAW 12:  Since bad shots come in groups of three, your fourth consecutive bad shot is really the beginning of the next group of three.*

*LAW 13:  If it isn't broke, try changing your grip.
*LAW 14:  It's surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt when you lie 8.*

*LAW 15:  Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like expecting him to make fun of his own haircut. *

*LAW 16:  Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.*

*LAW 17:  It's not a gimme if you're still 4 feet away.
*LAW 18:  The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the centre of a very large tree.*

*LAW 19:  You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, and a 2-inch branch 90% of the time.*

*LAW 20:  Every Time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make a double or triple bogey to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe.*

*LAW  21:  If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to use it to lay up just short of a water hazard.*
*LAW 22:  There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove.
*LAW 23:  A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours.*
*LAW 24:  Don't buy a putter until you've had a chance to throw it.*

JEANNE LEE - Hope you're the right Lady to direct this inquiry towards:  Once again I have spent a long time trying to access S&F, but no luck.  When I turn on the machine and click on the SeniorsandFriends site which I have on my computer, I am NOT able to access the site.  I usually try to read the comments in the SENIORS AND FRIENDS site first and then go along to BOSSOM BUDDIES.   I CANNOT access the sites, so then have spent a long time trying to access other sites.  No Luck!

I haven't read that anyone else has had these problems, but for me it has happened regularaly and continues to do so.  What am I NOT understanding?

Many thanks for your assistance.  Sure wish I didn't have to bother you continually!

I've had a new experience today and I did NOT like it one little bit!

I made muffins with a streusel topping and some of the topping spilled in the oven.  I was in another part of the house and didn't realize it until I smelled something burning.  There was no fire but, of course, when I opened the oven door, the smoke alarm went off.
Now you have to realize that this is the very first time in all the years I've had smoke alarms that one has ever gone off - EVER!  I did have sense enough to shut the oven door and turn the oven off.
That kind of noise sends me into a panic attack, anyway, and, since I had never had to deal with the problem, I did not realize it would go off by itself when the smoke cleared.  When I couldn't find any way to do it manually, I called 911 and the very patient lady - after determining there was no fire - calmly had me open the outside door and windows and turn on the ceiling fans.  Sure enough, in a few minutes, all was quiet again.   I apologized for it not being a real emergency and she was so kind to say "it happens all the time".

Fortunately, the muffins were done enough to finish baking after I turned off the oven,  so I didn't have to start over.

I have damp soapy rags softening the sugary mess on the bottom of the oven, so -while it's working - I think I'll go around to the dairy store and get some ice cream.

Thanks for listening..    :xoxo:

I'm HOME , and does it feel great !!!!! I made an error as to why I went into the hospital. I was not lack of Potassium, but lack of Sodium. So, I was treated for that by an I.V. however, on the second day they also found my potassium was too low also, so that was treated by pills. Have dietary info to follow, one pill was discarded. I'm tired, naturally. So will catch up to you all later. Your prayers are so welcome, I know they helped in getting me healed up and they are very welcome at all times. And our Chaplain here at Rowntree Gardens came to see me at the hospital, and said a very healing prayer. I feel SO thankful to you all. June

Oh, Callie, I am laughing so hard tears are springing out!   We have a smoke alarm next to the door going into the garage & I was forever setting it off because my husband usually had that door open going in & out... and when anything got too hot the smell sucked right past that alarm.... and wasn't just smoke that set it off but odor!  I would stand & swing that door back & forth after opening the family room door to the pool area to let fresh air in... and turn the over the stove fan on... & would finally stop it's screeching.  NEVER had to be extremely hot.  After Cas died, the battery disappeared out of that little noise maker, a dumb location!  Have 2 others in the house & basement in case of real fires!

Molly, I had trouble at one time with the bookmark & someone suggested going to the Forum tab, click on & bookmark it.... see if that doesn't work for you.

Hal, my sympathy for all those tests and treatments..... hopefully it will work so fast you won't need to keep going much longer.  So many new treatments compared with years ago.
Great golf sayings/tips, will send to my brother.

By the way, I found moth balls at the Dollar Tree or Dollar something.... good size box for a dollar.  Bet those birds had a nasty taste in their mouths after a while~

Don, you are really doing your job working out!  Very impressive!   :tiredtread: :cheer:

Jeanne Lee, hope my neighbor is reading about your rabbit cure.  She is fighting a losing battle in their garden.  These cats used to be great hunters but I stuff them with people & cat food so they won't bring them back to MY door.

Hummmmmm, guess I didn't post this after all.  Got that blasted headache back & affecting my eyes & thinking.

Jane, after all the giggling (Mary Ann, we would have gone into gales if we could hear each other!)   just what did you do to break your bed????  Solution... removed frame & leave box springs & mattress on the floor & watch how much the pups appreciate not having to jump so high~  They will think you did it just for them.

June is home!  .....   :balloons: :boots: :cheer: :dog: :dog4: :frog: :happydance: :jump:     :woohoo:

Going to flop on my bed & see if I can get some zzzzzzzzzz before bed time.

Well, my daughter and SIL just left.  They came over with a Harvard bed frame and set it up, replaced my mattress and springs and I have a place to sleep tonight.  And it didn't even take any super glue!

Shirley, I tried your idea of just removing the frame.  I think I'm about 20 years too late for that job!  And you're right, the doggies will be pleased when it's time to go to bed.  The bed is at least 8 inches lower.  Both Cathy and Craig commented that "that's one less thing we have to move".  They are in the process of packing up to move by mid-July.

Sure, you all had a good laugh on Callie and me.  At least we're still good for something!

Running late again tonight.

Thank you, JOAN, for the goodie today.  I panicked at the thought of Joe eating a moth ball, but can sure understand how that could happen.  That has always been a concern of mine and therefore has kept me from putting something out like that, with the fear of some one getting it instead of the intended us of the item.

JACKIE, I can not even imagine being able to kill ones own child.  I really didn't want to read it, but felt I should.  He was a darling little guy! WHY??

CALLIE, I truly felt so sorry for you.  I could feel your frustration.  Glad the 911 operator was kind to you.

MARYANN, belated Birthday greetings to Dot.  I am happy you were able to get together with her to celebrate.

JUNE, so happy to read you are home and hopefully feeling much better.  So glad that you were able to recognize that something just was not right.  Take care...rest well and feel better soon....hugs to you and lots of positive thoughts and prayers.

JANE, sure glad your emergency was well taken care of by the time I got in here to read.  Happy your family was able to solve your problem right away.

SHIRLEY, I guess you did the most effective thing you could do with that smoke alarm.......however if the other alarms are not close they might not give you enough warning....hope you never need one!

HAL, I will share your golf "stuff" with my son as I am sure he will enjoy it.  I wish you the best with the tests that you are facing.

My eyes are getting mighty heavy, so I bet to head off to bed.

Pleasant dreams to all.

CHUCKLES

Late Physicist

There was this physicist who was in the habit of getting home quite late. One time, he came home at 2:30 a.m. with a torn shirt, lipstick on his collar, hair messed up, and generally looking like a wreck. His wife caught him coming in the door and demanded to know why he came home so late.

His replied, "Well, after I left work today, a few friends and I went out to the bar for a few drinks. We met up with some rather good-looking young women and started to drink to excess. Things just kept happening, as you can well see. I sobered up enough to note how late it was, so I rushed home."

She screamed, "You liar! You were in the lab again, weren't you?"

Food For Thought

Three "Oh God's"
(By Rob Shep)

[Note from Chris: I always try to avoid any cursing in an issue, but for this one I'll make an exception... -Chris]

There are three ways to say "Oh God."

1. Oh God, she's so annoying.
Oh God, I spilled the milk.
God D@#^ I am so annoyed.

2. Oh God, where are you?
Oh God, where are you in the hurricane?
Oh God, where are you in that abuse?
Oh God, where are you in my pain?
God D@#^ you!

3. Oh God, I'm broken for you.
Oh God, I don't understand but I'm searching for you.
Oh God, I am desperate for you.
Oh God you are my God and I will ever praise you. No matter what goes on in this world I will desperately cry out, Oh God.

Three types of Oh God. Two lead to cursing. One leads to reverence. Where are you with your use of Oh God?

Thought of the Day

Speaking of tragedies in our lives, Billy Graham said: "Times like this will do one of two things: They will either make us hard and bitter and angry at God, or they will make us tender and open, and help us reach out in trust and faith. I pray that you will not let bitterness poison your soul, but that you would turn in faith and trust to God, even if we cannot understand. It is far better to face something like this with God's strength than to face it alone and without Him. My prayer for you today is that you will feel the loving arms of God wrapped around you, and will know in your heart that He will never forsake you as you trust Him."

- Billy Graham, speaking at the memorial service for those lost in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept with the windows open and the ceiling fan on low and I slept all night without waking even once.  It felt so good.  Right now, it's 66º and only going to the low 80s today.  Not too bad for a day in June!

I have a couple of errands to run this morning and then I have to keep my promise to give the doggies a bath.  I didn't get around to that yesterday.  I did all the laundry, including bathroom rugs and a load of towels and one dog bed.  And I made a pot of chili and shared it with the neighbors who helped me weed and who do the driveway in the winter.  Taking care of the bed breakdown and making the bed twice, took some of my time.

I hope Everyfriend has a wonderful day full of whatever makes you happy.

Good morning, Janie.  That was quite an ordeal you had with your bed.  Once you and the doggies had a place to sleep, it was good you slept all through the night.

Amy--Good morning.  Good luck with your yard sale.  I've never had one.  It seemed like it took so much time and effort the the few $$ my neighbors made having them.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Take it easy working outside on new bee hives.

I'm so happy you are back, June, and sounding like your self again.  Take it easy for a few days and get yourself back on a good schedule for eating.  Fairly often I will eat a bunch of potato chips or Fritos just because I am craving salt.  As the tortoise said, "Slow and steady wins the race."  So, don't be in too big a hurry to get back to "normal".

Jane, I know the bed situation was not funny for you at the time but it made me giggle.  :rotflol:  Glad your kids had that extra frame to help you out with.  Doubly good because it helped solve a problem for them, too.

It wouldn't have mattered what kind of bed I had last night, or even where it was placed, I slept so good and didn't wake up until nearly an hour later than my usual time.  I didn't have a good night on Thurs. night so I was catching up.

No yard sales for me either, Joan.  Too much work and didn't like having people paw over my things even if I no longer wanted them.  My son and dil have them fairly often.  It gives them an excuse to go shopping for MORE things!

Sunny, hot, and humid today.  Summer weather has finally shown up in NC, I guess.

Good Morning Everyone!

I need to clarify the appointment thingy.  It is nothing new or dealing with my "latest".  It is just the normal "followup" routine we all go through and it seems I have more doctors anymore than the normal bear.  I had to laugh, last night got a call from an old friend and I ask him what he had been up to and he said not much just doctors appointments.  ;D ;D  I told him I was in that same club.  Danny is 88
and will "maybe" stop by on his way home from a reunion North of here.

June, you do bring some good news by being back where you belong, home.
Now stick to a good diet and let them do the cooking.

AMY  good luck with your yard sale, hope you sell every thing.

Good morning Phyllis.  GREAT you slept so well last night.  In Arkansas I had a friend who had a garage sale every year--and complained every year.  She told tales of folks coming to her and wanting an item marked say $.50 reduced to $.25 because of things like there was a pulled stitch.  Guess some folks think they are shopping at a high end boutique.:)

Good morning angelface.

halkel--Good morning.  If I was your wife I'd be miffed at you, too.

Good morning, Larry.  It is HOT and HUMID here today.  I am glad I don't have to go out.

Gloria--Good morning.  It's too bad you don't have a/c that cools all of your apartment.  Sure is nice that your son does your grocery shopping.

Hi everyone.  It is already 82 degrees and not even 10 am and we will get over 90 this afternoon as we did yesterday.  I just got back from  a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a prescription.

Yesterday, we went to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day.  I enjoyed the salad bar and Pat had a chicken dish.  The rest of the day was quiet and restful.  I have already taken care of the outside work of watering my plants so should be able to stay in the rest of the day.  Not exciting but enjoyable and appreciated after what seemed like a busy week.  I have decided not to call the Motor Club until next week to tend to the battery problem although may request my son take out the battery and we can take it to Advance Auto and have it checked and replaced. He seems to enjoy doing this type of thing.

Amy, I hope your garage sale went well.  We did not have good experiences with them and won't be having anymore.

Hal, you are doing good work on your cardio therapy.  Is your therapy done with a group of folks at the same time for exercises?  I found it it was easier to be a part of a group than doing everything by myself.  I loved the Rules of Golf that you shared with us.

JaneS, I bet you would much prefer having the china and gold flatware go to your granddaughter than having the money.  Pat and I often talk about what will become of our China and Crystal that we have had since we got married as our son has several sets of dishes already.  The Silverware that Pat's folks gave us as a wedding present were stolen in a house break in and the what we got to replace it was no where near the quality of the first set.

Jeanne, maybe those grackles had moths and were grooming with the moth balls to get rid of them. :)

Callie, that smoke detector alarm is really loud.  This house has them in every room except the laundry and bathrooms.  Pat has of yet to set one off from kitchen activity.

June, welcome back.  I can relate to your Sodium problem as that is what put me in the hospital a couple of years ago.  Since you fight high blood pressure I doubt that your doctor told you to eat salt.  That was what I was told on discharge.

Good Morning,

:balloons:, There's June!    Sometimes, I wonder about all these dietary restrictions we're "advised" to heed.  More than once,  my potassium has been too high because I was trying to eat all those things we're supposed to eat to keep it up.

:walkwhistle:  It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood......  but it was a short night.

Both games in the College Softball World Series went into extra innings and Miss Emily didn't get here until nearly 1:00 a.m.   I dozed in the recliner but wanted to see her before we both went to bed.
She had to be back at the stadium at 9:00 a.m.

The muffins were a hit so I guess they were worth setting off the smoke alarm.  Soooo glad some of you got a chuckle from Janie's and my predicaments.

(Hey, Janie - wanna take our Act on the road?   :rocker:   :nanadance2:  :lol2:)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good Morning from the beautiful
warm, slightly cool, dry rocky coast
of Maine.

The hot and humid weather is not due here
for at least another week.   June is our
most beautiful month here in the North
East.    But of course,  it passes too quickly.

Sad to hear  that "The Greatest",
Muhammad Ali,  has passed away at 74 ...
So sad.

What a man,  what a hero!

I wish everyone a very good weekend!

Larry--I wrote to you before you even posted.  Wonder how that happened?

Good morning, Callie.  Both you and Miss Emily had a short night.

Sandy--You know from experience how many H & H months we have here in FL.  Enjoy this month that you say is so nice up your way.

I never realized just how much I
enjoy the "change of seasons",  even if
some of them I don't care for.

I realized this most when I spent a year
in the North West,  Port Townsend, Washington.

We never needed AC for Summers never got
out of the 70's ...   and the Winters were
dry and foggy and never got lower then the 40's.

In Port Townsend we didn't get the rain,
because Port Townsend was in the
Olympic Rain Shadow ...
http://www.olympicrainshadow.com/olympicrainshadowmap.html

I really enjoyed the Spring/Summer,  but the Fall
and Winters were boring at best.    Dark,  gray... and
very cool.

As I have mentioned many times,  I loved
Florida in the deep Winter Months of November
thru March ...       I would have made a
fabulous "Snow Bird"

Callie, shall I drive or will you...or should we get a bus and a driver?

Phyllis, it wasn't funny at first and I didn't even intend to say anything here about the broken bed but when I saw Callie's post (and I giggled about it) I had to let her know she wasn't alone!  And when I finished writing and reading, I was chuckling, too.  I sent a text to both my daughter and son asking for help.  My daughter called immediately with her solution and they both came right over.

June, I hope you are resting and taking it easy and doing exactly what the dr. told you to do.  We need you right here with us.  And I hope your bed doesn't break!

LLoyd, I am here, thank you for asking about me, all is fine, just not spent so much time on the computer, more playing catch up on recorded tv programmes.....

Junedrabek, good to see you back where you belong...
...............................
I found a seamstress for taking up hems of my couple of maxi jersey skirts and very long length dressing gown, it is booked in for next Saturday, got a bit of travelling to do but I feel I picked the right person, the right place, did check out a lot of others that I had the sense to phone a library where they hold a weekly knit and natter, just on a whim that someone will know of a person that does clothing alterations, and a haberdashery type shop, but ruled those out, as the shop wanted me to drop clothes in and leave them there without meeting the person doing the work....
.............................
A bit more on the village child murder.....As usual they were not both child's parents, the mother was but not the father, he was mothers partner....we hear so much of these sad stories, most often it is the partner, or stepfather......R read a piece from our today's local paper.....back in March this year child was in hospital having " 20 "stitches put in his face, told It had been caused by a cut plate.....guess it wont be long before the full horror of this sad tale comes to light....
............................
Now who is the bed breaker? I can just visualise someone playing trampoline ontop of their bed....ha ha, some adults just never grow out of there childhood, do they? ;)
.............................
It was sad to hear the news of Cassius Clays death this morning.....
..............................
Callie K, believe me, you are not alone, R has set our smoke alarm off twice already, and that is in less than 2 months.....I couldn't breathe for the amount of fat that was filling through every room....then there was the bathroom flood........I'm just waiting for his next trick.... ::)

Good Morning to all my wonderful friends..true gifts of our loving Father. I love you all.

I had a wonderful shower and shampoo, headed for bed and a wonderful deep sleep. Woke feeling renewed, but cautious. Now enjoying all your dear posts.

Janie, I think all we people, old and young alike, keep God so busy healing our hurts, he doesn't have time to fix beds, but He does take time to direct other to do the duty. How often do you launder those doggies? I have read that it should not be done too frequently, as it dries out their skin and makes them itch. Am I correct ?

Callie, I was told that I need to gain, weight, and yet I should look at my plate daily, and see that is is half filled with vegetables. I wonder which vegetable contains a lot of fat ? How can the body need sodium but we should not use salt ? How can I eat a banana a day and still be low on potassium ? I think the medical profession is not very well informed. But I should not judge them…they did get me healed up and home.

Sandy, and Ali was a really GOOD person too. He didn't seek adulation, he knew himself what he was and he was content. A good father too.

Janie, I am doing my best to behave, and I think when someone says "how are you feeling ?" And I give them a happy body wiggle that makes them smile, it says it all. Makes both of us feel better.

Vanilla-Jackie, thank you friend, I really do feel a part of our cyber family, and it is good to be back with you all.

Just got a call from our clinic downstairs..I have some meds to pick up..ta-tat.

Sandy--I wouldn't like to live in the NW where they get so much rain and/or dark grey days.

Janie--I think you and Callie should have a BIG red RV for your "road show".

Vanilla-Jackie--You sure are doing a good job finding the services you need.  I've never set off the smoke alarm in this house, but many times I did in Arkansas.

June--I'm so glad you're home and healing.  Take it easy and try to eat the way you were told.

June, the doggies only get a bath about every two weeks....when Mickie smells bad and Annie looks dirty.  And I use a special medicated shampoo that I got from the vet.  You are right.  Bathing them too often does dry their skin and make them itchy.

I was told by a doctor and by a nutritionist, because of my serious allergies,  to use a diet form called Clean Eating which is very similar to both the Meditrainum Diet and the Dash Diet. It is NOT a diet but a way of eating and is both inexpensive and healthy.  It is the way our ancestors ate for centuries. Basically, you take a plate and divide it in half. The one-half you fill with fruit and vegetables and you divide the second half in two. One-half is lean protein and the other is whole grains.

Even the government has dropped the pyramid and gone to my plate version and this is supported by the Diabetes Council, American heart Association, and the US Cancer Institute. You drop convenience and fatty foods and some white foods which are not good for you such as white bread, an almost entirely chemical food.

You can eat healthy, stay within a food budget and keep the majority of your money you wasted on junk. There are scads of information sites on the web. Just remember most of it is geared to getting you to purchase their usually unneeded products. No special foods or appliances or tools to buy and everything is available in your local market.

Callie, shall I drive or will you...or should we get a bus and a driver?  I like Joan's suggestion of a big red RV!  While we're at it, why don't we get a steward to do the cooking and serving?

June,  my Mother's doctor was always impressed with what she told him what she was eating - until he discovered she simply was not eating enough of it. I don't remember if he suggested anything for when she was living alone but I could see a difference when she  moved to Assisted Living and was going to the dining room for all meals - even though she had some issues that limited her diet.

ESPN is broadcasting the College Softball World Series.  Miss Emily's Mom posted a screen shot she'd "lifted" showing Emily sitting back of the divider between the workers and the playing field.  I'm sure it was a quick look but.....hey!  my granddaughter's been on national TV!

As they say, no room at the Inn....I'll just have to go and find a comfy dog bed then...... ;D

They got up there before we had a chance to put the sofa cover on for the night...

Edited, I took this photo quickly as its very rare to see them laying together on the sofa.....

Larry there are three patients doing physio at the same time, so it's pretty well a one-to-one ratio between patient and kinesiologist

This link shows my "backyard." I live just to the upper right of this small park right at the edge of town. You can see a bit of the foothills that surround the town and help keep out the bad weather and moisture.
They rarely turn the fountain on anymore except for holidays and special events.

I think we have a small park in each neighborhood  or close. That was part of a bow in the Chena River, part of five rivers that intersect the town.

The copper panels situated around the fountain list the founding families in 1903 and "illustrious" members.

Callie--Hiring a steward would be a great idea.  Hurrah for Miss Emily being on TV.

Janie--When are you starting out? :)

Vanilla-Jackie--They look so comfy on the sofa.  Did you chase them off and cover the sofa?

Radioman--Here I don't think you'd get one on one therapy unless you went to a private facility.

angelface--That looks like a lovely area.

If he's driving, who's gonna serve us "refreshing beverages" while we're cruisin' along enjoying the scenery between gigs?
I don't think we need to start rehearsals until we get some bookings.  Anybody interested in being our Agent?  Maybe  :snoopy: is available.    :2funny:

Patricia,  I remember enjoying a "cruise" on the Chena River while on a tour of Alaska.  I think we saw an Athabascan Village and the home of a woman who was a champion dog sled racer.

(If I weren't so tired from putting 6 cups of freshly snapped green beans, 3 cups of diced potatoes,  and 1 cup of diced onion sautéed in the drippings from 6 slices of crisp-fried bacon (to be added later) in the Crock Pot,  I'd hunt up that trip album and verify my statements.   ::)  Maybe later.....)

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Thank you for the goodies today?

We have been outside working away....well, Bob is working, I am supervising and giving my two cents worth!  Got the patio fountain up and running.  Love listening to it...so soothing.  We were going to put up lights around the patio, but decided I really did not like them....too professional looking.  Bob trimmed off dead branches on the tree.  Moral of the story...we are plum worn out and are in our chairs trying to recover.

JACKIE, I sure enjoyed seeing the picture of the doggies on your beautiful sofa....loved the lamp.....I just plain love seeing pictures!  How is Toby Dog getting along eating now?

DON, I forgot to congratulate you on your walking on the treadmill and how well you are doing.  Good for you.

PATRICIA, l enjoyed seeing the camera at Golden Heart Plaza.  I watched it for awhile and plan to go back and have anorexic watch.  Thank you for sharing.

Nice to see your post....JUNE. It appears you are getting back into the swing of things.

Missing Kelly and Sun.  I do hope they are both doing OK.

CALLIE, nice you got to see a shot of your granddaughter on TV.

Rest time is over.....best get busy and get something else done!

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Jenny

Callie, he can get the refreshing drinks ready before we leave and we can loll in the back, drinking ice tea (or something stronger) and cracking jokes for practice.

I'm about to collapse.  Or maybe not!

Patricia, you are correct in all you say about our diets. I used to love all food levels, but when I got bleeding diverticulosis I found that white bread had to be my choice. I could have the crunch grain breads any more, any thing with seeds is out of allowances. Darn. So, no matter what the heart assoc., diabetes and cancer folks dictate, it could be a killer for some of us now.

Callie, you should have seen what I stuffed down my gullet today..an oriental chicken salad. containing strips of chicken breast, chinese noodles, chopped what looked like pimentos, fine sliced red cabbage, chopped lettuce, a giant size glass of orange juice, a cup of coffee, a small glass of ice water, a cup of rich soup, and I brought home a glob of cottage cheese, chopped water melon cantaloupe, pineapple chunks mandarin oranges, so that may be my supper tonight, along with some cheddar cheese that i have on hand. For some reason cheddar cheese was not advised, and at the same time I am supposed to gain weight. To me cheese is almost a staple food. It must have been a thrill to see Emily on the big screen today. Our kids and grandkids and gr. grands are the pride of our lives.

Vanilla, beautiful sofa, I would like to joint the pups and give them both a big cuddle. They appear to feel right at home there.

Patricia, what a beautiful view you have and what an expanse of the sky…I love it.

Bis, I don't know of another care facility that offers all the amenities we have here at Rowntree Gardens. I think because it is owned by a religious organization, they can do things their way, they don't have a big corporation telling them what to do. I just had a phone call from our clinic downstairs asking how I was doing. Another girl poked her head in earlier today, and one did the same about 9 0'clock last nite. Just checking up. God Bless them !

Jenny, things are going very smoothly and I am so happy. I feel better and better as the hours go by. Thanks for caring dear friend !

June,  that all sounds delicious but I don't see any "stick-to-your-ribs" items - like good old Meat & 3  (beef or pork with 3 veggies, one of which is potatoes).   Love you!
I'm so impressed with the caring attention you're receiving.  That's real "assistance".

Jane,  I do "lolling" very well.  In fact, that's what I'm going to do right now.....

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have sweet dreams.

Dear Ones, If you had seen me tonight you would not believe this 91 year old just came out of the hospital two days ago. After supper we had George Rossi playing and singing for us, and of course I had to come out dancing with my cart. Then I behaved my self till the last song.."Pretty Woman", and that beat got me back on my feet, and i just enjoyed the dance. Crazy !!!

Callie, they (the hospital)recommend very little or no meat. Chicken and fish is their choice. I am not a real meat eater anyway so that rule doesn't bother me. For supper tonight I had a fried drum stick and half a baked potato, plus the cottage cheese and fruit I did not eat for lunch, plus a big glass of apple juice....then on to the entertainment. I am still full. Tomorrow I will concentrate on more vegetables.

I will going to bed soon, as all of you good people are sleeping or ready to sleep, and in addition to all my other foolishness, I don't want to add "talking to myself" to the list.

I pray you all have a very peaceful night and wake rested and eager to face the day. God Bless you each and everyone. I send you love, prayers and big hugs. June
