Shirley I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Eloise. A week prior to our meeting we talked on the telephone; what a vibrant conversationalist she was!  A week later when we met she had deteriorated into an almost vegetative stage.  She was unable to speak and she didn't know who I was.  But I sat with her for an afternoon reading to her the biblical account of Ruth and Naomi, her favourite story.  It was moving experience for me and I only regret not knowing her in her prime.  She was a big fan of my radio show and rarely missed it.

JoanFL

Hi Mary Ann.

Vanilla-Jackie--That's for SURE.

Hi Angelface.

June--I am glad you love your living quarters so much.

Radioman--This most certainly is a VERY SPECIAL trip to Canada for Bubble.  Thanks for telling us about your association with Eloise.

Shirley--Your interaction with Eloise is interesting.  Sure is generous of you to give the Allis Chalmers to #1 son.

Eloise's Bash was another one that I looked forward to hearing about and seeing the photos on the old SeniorNet. I emailed her once or twice about some things and enjoyed her friendship on Facebook. She was such a lovely, elegant woman.

Don, wasn't California one of the first places Bubble went after emigrating? This was before Israel, and I believe she has a son still in San Franciso.

Vanilla-Jackie

I remember the photo of the meeting with Eloise, I never knew her, at the time I was quite new on Seniors but I do remember in the photo she had the loveliest of a smile, silver white hair and a white coloured top-blouse...Hope I have got my memory right...

It's still light outside but I am going to get ready for bed and book. These days pass too quickly, so I'm hoping to be up and attum' tomorrow. Enough of this loafing around. But it felt today like it was needful to take a rest. I did take a trip downstairs..had to pick up a prescription, so returned a library book while down stairs, and picked up some mail.

Have a very good night dear friends and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good morning, JACKIE.  I am happy to read your news and to know that they have eased your feared health concerns.  I hope and pray they are correct.  I wish you a good day.

We enjoyed another day here with my dad.  Bob and dad worked on dads computer and Diane and I went to a casino for a couple of hours.  There has been some terrible flooding from monsoon rains here in the Phonix metro area, but not here in Sun City.  The temperatures have not been bad since we have been here, but I think it will be higher triple digest for the rest of our stay.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny, the only thing no one can ever find are my " ovaries, " and told on several occasions " that is not a bad thing," even looked that up on the internet to confirm... but still it does leave one wondering....you hear so much on ovarian cancer...but I am content with yesterdays findings.....I will still keep a look out for future stomach-groin sensations-pains-signs...as I am the one experiencing these, not the so called experts....

Jenny I hope this time the casino never took all of your money....

CHUCKLES

Prescription

Because of an ear infection, Little Johnny, had to go to the pediatrician. The doctor directed his comments and questions to Little Johnny in a professional manner. When he asked Little Johnny, "Is there anything you are allergic to?" Little Johnny nodded and whispered in his ear. Smiling, the pediatrician wrote out a prescription and handed it to Little Johnny's mother. She tucked it into her purse without looking at it.

As the pharmacist filled the order, he remarked on the unusual food-drug interaction Little Johnny must have. Little Johnny's mother looked puzzled until he showed her the label on the bottle. As per the doctor's instructions, it read, "Do not take with broccoli."

Food For Thought

Waiting on the Holy Spirit: Dependence on Him
(By Howard Culbertson)

"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." -- Psalm 27:14

Sometimes we highly-motivated types want to rush out to serve the Lord using not much more than our own thoughts, ambitions, actions and desires. We need to reflect a bit on the stern warning given in Isaiah 30 to those who develop plans without bothering to ask if they fit the mind and will of God.

The discipline of waiting on the Holy Spirit is a powerful reminder to me that I'm not to be the one ultimately in charge. I need to be reminded of that often. When we truly learn to wait on God, we discover how great He is, how immense His love is toward us, how powerful He is and how involved He wants to be in our lives.

Years ago Andrew Murray wrote a devotional book called Waiting on God. In these 31 devotionals Murray pours out his message that an adequate knowledge and understanding of the ways of God only comes to those who know how to patiently wait. So, in some ways, our willingness to wait on the Holy Spirit can be a measure of whether we have recognized the real source of power and cleansing and strength.

In one of his books, Henri Nouwen recounts a spiritual insight that came to him through a friendship he had struck up with the Flying Rodleighs, famous German trapeze artistes. Nouwen spent a week in Germany with this group of South Africans and Americans. One day the trapeze group leader told Nouwen: "As a flyer, I must have complete trust in my catcher. The public might think that I am the great star of the trapeze, but the real star is Joe, my catcher. He has to be there for me with split second precision and grab me out of the air as I come to him in the long jump. . . The secret is that the flyer does nothing and the catcher does everything. . . The worst thing the flyer can do is to try to catch the catcher. . . .A flyer must fly and a catcher must catch, and the flyer must trust, with outstretched arms, that his catcher will be there for him."

What a great picture of what God asks us to do. We are the flyer and He is the catcher. We are as dependent on Him as the trapeze flyer is upon his catcher. People may see us and think how great we are but the real star of this is our Lord, not us.

On this day, as you swing through the air seemingly far, far above safety, you must trust in the Lord to be your catcher. Wait for Him; He will be there for you.

Joy

Good morning, Joan.   Thanks for the good breakfast this morning.  One of my favorite breakfast sandwiches.

I am up early as I have an eye doctor appointment.  I had set the alarm for 6 a.m. and about 5:30 I was woken up by my medical alert button beeping.  I had looked at the clock and figured I still had a half-hour before I had to get up when that thing started beeping.  I guess I must have rolled over on it.   By then, I was wide awake and the person answered the call.  She was happy that I didn't need any help.  I guess I am going to have to try and hang it on something near the bed as this has happened before.  I have had this alarm button for almost 10 years now, and have never had to use it for an emergency.  So, I am grateful for that.  But, it can be a big nuisance.

Anyway, I wanted to mention that the "Thought for the day" from Teddy Roosevelt sure is meaningful in today's political world.  LOL  Some of the mud-slingers sure can relate to that quote.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The doggies got me up very early this morning but I went to the sofa for some additional zzzs before I got up.  Now, the doggies and I have all had breakfast and Beverly is still sleeping.

We're going to a reunion of Girl Scout Camp counselors at lunch time today.  I always enjoy gathering with these people who shared my growing years.

Amy--Good morning.  We did have some rain last night--.10"--not enough to do much good.

Good morning, Janie.  That will be fun to go to the reunion of Girl Scout counselors.  Enjoy!!

Good morning everyone, Found our yesterday that my Skype is no longer working. Trying ti fix/download again I don't know what I was getting, wanted way too much information. Like where I live, address and phone number. Never did that before so I did not fill anything out and deleted it. Used to be your name and email address was all that was needed. Seems like I have a problem with everything on this computer lately. Beginning to wonder if it is me. Nah, not me, the gremlins are at work.

DON  by now I hope Bubble is in London and settled in. I am glad she didn't have to travel alone. I felt so bad leaving her to keep the PSP forum by herself. I still have not installed my program on here since having more PC problems.

SHIRLEY  Bubble has helped me several times with PSP. Another week sped by. We are in for storms this afternoon but now it is bright and sunny.

JOAN  great looking breakfast again. Chuckles -little Johnny must have heard the first President Bush say he did not like broccoli, cute. Wish today's politicians would read today's quote. Thank you for today's goodies.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the warm,  but not too humid,  rocky
coast of Maine.

Yes,  Life Alert buttons can sometimes be
a pain.   For me it is usually when I shower.
It gets wet.   But it only takes a few minutes
to dry out,  and I would never ever get
into the shower (or go to bed) with out it.

Having be a victim of strokes,  I understand
that one thing that happened to me is my
inability to contemplate what is happening.

By having that button right around my neck,
accessible by both hands (when I had my
stroke, my right arm went limp and became
"useless" (until it it was over)),  I could still
use my left hand to push the button.

They also require that I push the button once
a month for a check to make sure it is
working.

I also have attached to my life alert button,
a life alert tag,  with pertinent information,
like like where to take me (hospitial name),
who to call, (my daughters name and phone
number, and what I am allergic to, as well
as the fact that I take Coumadin (blood thinner).

And wouldn't you know it, the one time that
I didn't have these tags hanging around my
neck when I was out with my daughter,
I had an emergency and I forgot about the tags,
which were right in my purse.

Strangely the first thing that happens in a medical
emergency,  is  what I call "brain freeze"..
I can't remember a thing.

So I will  never again will I go with out them,
again.

Opps.  There I go again.   Lecturing about
the importance of wearing life alert buttons.

Sorry,  but this topic is very near to my heart,
right where I keep the alert button.
:coolsmiley:
Have a nice day,  Everyone.

I feel Great and all is well here !

Hi everyone.  It is a bright and sunny morning and headed to 93 degrees.

We watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics last evening and it was quite spectacular. We are now watching the first contests of the Skulls Rowing and the Bicycle racing.  I have quite a few tasks to accomplish today but am going to have to take them in little segments with some resting in between.  I did fix Pat's breakfast.  She wants me to make some sausage muffins that she likes and will get our dinner in the crock pot as we are having roast beef and vegetables.

I had a really long morning yesterday.  My appointment with the cardiologist was at 10 am.  I wasn't called to an exam room until 11 am and then spent another hour or more waiting for the doctor.  I should have rescheduled the appointment as Pat needed to get to the Chiropractor.  I thought there would be plenty of time to get home and get her to her 11:30 appointment.  Now she won't see the Chiropractor until Monday afternoon.  I had some good news and some not so good news from the tests I had a few days ago.  The Carotid arteries are fine and the Echo was OK.  However, the PET showed their was an abnormality with the blood vessels feeding the left side of the heart.  The doctor took me off of the ACE Inhibitor medicine and prescribed a new medicine called Entresto, which is to reduce the risk of death and hospitalization in people with certain types of long-lasting (chronic) heart failure.  I have to be off the ACE Inhibitor for 36 hours before starting the new medicine, so will start is twice a day on Monday.  I stopped on my way home and bought chicken meals for our main meal of the day and that was about it.

Don, glad Bubble and her children had a safe, but sure very tiring, trip.  It sounds like today is the big day when you will actually get together.

Joan, glad you had a successful Cardiologist appointment.

Jackie, glad you got good news from your appointment.

June, we have a relatively new washing machine with a huge tub and can basically do all of the laundry in one load, except for the things needing bleach like the kitchen towels and some wash cloths.  I don't mind the folding and putting away.  We have not looked into getting more help but if Pat and I continue to deteriorate it may become necessary before too long.  I appreciate your concern for us.  You are one of my inspirations with your apparent joy of life.

Sandy, I agree with you 100% on the importance of the life alert button and keeping it with you all the time.

JoanFL

Good morning, Sandy.  Do you have the type of Life Alert button that works when you are out and about?  Mine only works basically around the house and its perimeter.

Larry--Good morning.  You sure had a long morning yesterday.  I pray the new medication improves the quality of your life.  Too bad Pat missed her appointment with the chiropractor yesterday.

My life alert only works around the house,
because that is where I spend most of my time alone....
When out and about,  I do have the tag that tells them
where to take me etc etc.   (and my daughters phone number) ..

Someday I will proably switch over to the one that goes with
me everywhere.     But right now I don't feel the need for
that.

Sandy--Like you, the one I have suffices for now.  Later I might entertain the idea of getting one that goes wherever I go.

She's on her way! Should be here in about three hours. So to keep myself busy I can respond to a couple of posts.
June, Bubble appreciates your kind remarks.
Angelface I stand corrected. Bubble has been to America three times: twice in California and once in North Carolina. She has one son and he lives in London England.
I hope to take her with me to the studio tomorrow where I do my radio show. Next Sunday, Aug 14, we are having our engagement party. My sons and wives will be there as will my grandchildren and their spouses and the great-grandchildren as well. A little over 30 people in all.

Good Morning Everyone!

Don, what a weekend you are to have.  All the family there to welcome Bubble into your your new combined family.  I know you are very excited, just don't overdo it.

My wife is a bit under the weather this morning, so I am "trying" to help out.  I got the kitchen organized and dishwasher loaded and turned on and now got to get some clothes out of the dryer.

Larry, I have trying to figure out a way to get more help into our house.  We really need someone to come in to do so light housekeeping and cooking of a meal daily.  But checking around and I find it is extremely expensive and I just don't see where I can find the money for the expense.  We have a cleaning lady that comes in about twice and month and yard guy about every 10 days.  But weekly housekeeping, unless I can find a private individual is going to be a no-no.  I wish we had a good cafeteria close by, but the Luby's that used to be not far from us closed down.  People just quit going there, don't know why.  Younger folks don't utilize them.  Furr's has one not too far away, but it is very expensive and now the food is not that great.  And the people are starting to quit going there.  And it seems there are just no family restaurants any more, just the fast food and franchise places.

Oh, well.  If I could stand very long I would give it a whirl, I am not that bad of a cook, but my old back just cramps so bad I have to sit and let it rest.  I may get a tall stool to sit on and put it in the kitchen, maybe one with a back rest.

JoanFL

Radioman--What excitement for you, Bubble and family.  I wish you the best!!

Good morning halkel.  Household help is expensive, that's for sure.  Many restaurants around here have closed, too.  That's a hard business to make a living doing. I hope you wife feels better very soon.

When my parents visited my older brother and his family in San Antonio my mother would always ask to eat at Luby's at least once during their visit.  She loved that place.  Sorry to hear that it has closed.

I've been working on my computer and slowly restoring most of the apps that I lost.  Had to replace the router so now I can at least connect wirelessly to the Internet instead of having cables strung all around.

Sounds like wonderful festivities for you and Bubble and your families, Don.  Exciting times for you all.

Lunch time so will check in later.

Halkel, wonder if the " BAMBACH " saddle seat would be any use for you.......I found this link via, back troubles, multiple sclerosis, I was interested in getting myself one but, seems it would be best over wooden floor, our place is part wooden flooring, part carpet.....I even have carpeting now in the office.....Watch this video clip, this clip is a lady getting around her kitchen, she has multiple sclerosis but, there is also an alternative for back troubles....Link to clip, scroll to bottom of the page........and watch how she whizzes around.....Just to let you know, these stools dont come cheap...

Sandy, My Life alert has an indented button, which makes me happy as I am a very restless sleeper turn every which way in bed. ones finger has to go inside to press if down. Mine has been put to use three times. Once I bent way over and it slipped off my head and sent it off, next time I had been so sick to my stomach I felt I was going to faint, so I alerted the Nurse on duty downstairs with the life alert, and he was right there to help me.Third time is when I fell recently, and it automatically when off downstairs. I wear it constantly. It gets wet in the shower but the plastic dries almost instantly when drying my body.

Larry, I will stop nagging you about having more assistance. You are a sensible gentleman so I will trust in your judgement of your needs. Larry, I feel at my age that each day is a special gift, carefully wrapped in God's Hands, so how can we help but be joyfully thankful, as I am sure your are my friend.

Bis my Life Alert only works in our building here too. If I should leave the property it would be of no help. However I have no way to go anywhere without accompanists  so it really doesn't matter. If you were out in your auto, you could lean or press against the car horn. People get veer annoyed with that sound and you would get attention.

Hal, A tall stool with back rest sounds like a good plan, as long as you know how to cook, that is half the battle. My main problem is shortness of breath. My doctor blames that on the several b.p. meds that I must take. There are a lot of short cuts unless you are a gourmand. Life frozen dinners. Marie Calendar is the best in my estimation. Bushes' beans with hot dogs is a simple preparation and very tasty, cornbread comes in a box, easy to mix and bake. So there are ways and means available.

Jackie, that stool sound very helpful for anyone that has to sit for a length of time, like office workers for instance. I find that pulling in my stomach hard also make me sit with a straight back. It also raises the chest and make breathing easier.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JeanneP

Jackie.  I am a little different . Had he said this to me I would get a second Opinion.

Note: you.  .Gyno could not tell me anything more other than this is not done through him, he was not qualified in this dept, but he did show me the computer diagram of my problem.....

Blood should not be showing all that time. Only if much after Meno. When lining very thin . And then only a few drops not often. I had that once in awhile. My OB. here was one of the Best in US. had him 35 years. Also happened once in UK 4 years ago.I went to one there .It just lasted a day. She put it to me washing in soap with perfume in it. I can't use it on any skin. Used my cousins in the shower. Never had it again. Check with my OB here when got home.
It may cost us here but I if not sure what one Dr. Says will always get a second opinion. Surprise sometimes just how different some of them think.

Jeanne P, Gyno has identified the problem, my second opinion has already been suggested from him, re, my GP monitoring and GP referral to Urologist, who is more expert in this field...Gyno was qualified in his findings....It is the urethra, yet strangely no blood shows in my urine....Since my MS diagnoses, my bladder doesn't function the same any more...and the two, seemed to have run-along side by side....Maybe I never worded my sentence correctly....
" There is no present like the time "

Jackie.  Thats sounds good. My problem is that I look down and see blood and panic. My Doctor. (who I called at home and he came in a 8am next day to check). He showed me how by just a drop of blood hitting water really spreads. Looks like so much more.
I think now we have gotten older bladders do change. Never knew so many people suffer from Incontinence. Even men.  Yes he explained this also.
I know that when they see me in their waiting room that they are not going to get away if 15 min. I am a questioner.
