Amy

Good morning everyone..

Tis raining, a soft rain that will soak in the ground and not just lay on top. I didn't find the energy but found the will to cut the last evening. I had heard it was going to rain (yes the weather guesser was right) today so thought the job should be done.

Jane, prayers for Jim, my goodness he has enough on his plate without this. Hope the Drs correct this and fast so he can continue his dialysis. My you be blessed with MANY hugs today from your granddaughter.

June, I too couldn't count so I am also with you!! I bet Bubble is giggling at all this.  Way to go on your dancing! Makes the heart feel young when you are enjoying music to dance with..You just keep on shaking your bootie!

Thank fully today is a day of rest..I am so looking forward to it!!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Jane, Gloria, Shirley, Bravo!  Short and shorter it is :D

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Well Cox was at it again yesterday. No TV computer or phone again. No Skype with my daughter either. I called her on my cellphone to let her know. At least one Saturday a month it messes up. Cannot switch to any other carrier. From what my CNAs say all the senior housing buildings have Cox and you cannot change. Of course they were the first ones in the area. Looks like tomorrow we will  have a return to the heat and humidity, maybe another heatwave. YUCK.

SHIRLEY  in the more than 20 years I lived on the second floor at my son's house did we have a storm and it started leaking in my livingroom. There was a third floor and it was dry up there. My son got up on the roof and found the leak that started on the other side of the roof. He said the wind was blowing the rain so hard from a different direction that it blew the rain under a couple of the shingles and it just traveled. He did fix it and never happened again. He worked as a roofer for many years and knew what and where to look.

LARRY  my daughter has been doing things with her photos with apps on her iPhone that I did with PSP. It amazes me. I have an iPhone that is sitting on a shelf in the closet, could not understand it.

AMY  if I remember right Campbells veggie soup had okra in it years ago. I ate it but do not remember what it tasted like but in can soups everything tasted the same.

JANE  glad your BP went down.

MARY TX  most anything fried tastes good to me.

CALLIE  had a chuckle reading that your Ellen had to wear a girdle. Hope it was not tooo tight.

JUNE  sometimes we can look at some words a dozen times and know it is spelled wrong but cannot figure out just what is wrong.

LLOYD  have a safe trip to Iowa and home again.

JANE  so sorry to read that JIM is in the hospital again. Prayers and hugs for you and your sister and Jim.

JENNY  it has been many years since I watched a soap. Refuse to get attached to any again.

AMY  enjoy that slow rain today.

LLOYD 60° here.

BUBBLE  bet you giggled at some of the answers to your quiz.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi Everyone. We are headed for a high today of 92 degrees with a 20% chance of rain though the afternoon.  I watched some football yesterday afternoon and again last evening.  In between we did go to Pizza Hut for a delicious pizza and got to spend a little more time with our son than normal as they were not very busy.

I got up about 1:30 for the bathroom and then couldn't go to sleep so about 2:15 I got up for an hour and read the postings since yesterday in these discussions as well as my email and finally worked a jigsaw puzzle.  I then went back to bed and got a little more sleep.  It was late when Pat came to bed.  We had enjoyed a cola with caffeine in it with the pizza and I am sure that was the reason Pat stayed up so late.  I just couldn't turn my mind off and don't think it was the caffeine as that usually doesn't bother me.

I am ready for Sunday School and Church this morning and don't know yet whether Pat will feel up to going to Church or not.  I have a coupon for a free medium sub at Firehouse with the purchase of medium sub, chips and a drink so that will be our lunch for today and I will stop there on my way home.  I plan on watching the end of the golf match late this afternoon.  We finally got our new Medicare cards in the mail yesterday that have been issued throughout this year.

Amy, I had never heard of okra until I was working at the Air Force base in Oklahoma City and eating in their cafeteria and saw it being served.  It was the stewed with tomatoes mess and it turned me off from it completely just looking at it.  I have eaten some friend, that wasn't bad, and I don't mind it in soups with other vegetables.  It is not something that is fixed in our house although Pat on occasion will get the fried okra as a side with her mail dish when we eat out.  I am sure glad my other didn't grow it in her garden.  At least you now don't have to can tomatoes or make the chili sauce and beets.  Guess that will give you a little more time for quilting.

Jane, congrats on your good BP reading. Being in a lot of pain probably doesn't help with the BP reading.  I hope you will feel up to going to Church today.  Sorry that your brother has had to be readmitted to the hospital and hope the infection can be quickly contained so he will have a short stay.

Mary, I think okra must have been something generally grown in the South as I never saw it served in the Midwest where I grew up and worked for a long while.

June, it can't be disputed that the word "short" does have four letters plus one additional letter so you really weren't wrong.  Please don't retire as your comment created quite a few reactions and added to our discussion.  It sounds like you enjoyed the evening entertainment and you got a chance to do some dancing.

Lloyd, it sounds like you are in for a very interesting experience spending time with the Amish couple and attending the Amish wedding. I look forward to your sharing about the experience.

mycheal, in what part of the State is Kalona, Iowa.

deAngel, I think your mother was wise with the okra!

Callie, over here it is peanut country and many people like boiled peanuts, which are soft to eat.  I haven't acquired a taste for them.  I prefer my peanuts salted and baked not boiled.  Glad you are feeling better from the pollen.  I think Pat and I both have some of the same problems and we use a lot of Kleenex.  It sounds like Miss Ellen is beginning to build an experience base in the theater.

Jenny, other than Dallas or other evening programs like it that really were sort of soap operas I never cared to watch them.  I understand that a lot of men have enjoyed them over the years.  Amazing how they can keep a story going for so long.

Gloria, glad your TV and phone and internet service has been restored.  We don't realize how much we depend on these things until they are not available.  I am glad you have another phone to use in such cases. Sorry you haven't been able to use your iPhone as they are great little devices.

JaneS

Went to church with no ill effects!  I think I might be recovered.  And just in time to enjoy my granddaughter's visit.

I think I'll cook something this afternoon.  I wonder what?

I appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers for Jim.  I haven't heard any more news today but I really don't expect to until after lunch.  He's a tough guy!  And he's a fighter, too but I really think he's getting tired of all the rough roads.

I'll be back later.  Make your day a great one!

Good morning......it is a beautiful morning here in the Mile High City. Hard for me to accept that it is Labor Day weekend......where did our summer go?

We did not have a very restful night, as some animals, more than likely the Raccons were either fighting or killing something and the noises were awful.  It got Oliver the Doodle all up set and it took him quite sometime to settle back down.  I think he could still hear them even when we could not.  We did not catch anything on our back camera other than Raccons passing through, but the horrible sound was on there and of course Oliver thought it was happening all over again, and he was very upset again.

Today is the baby shower for our daughter-in-law, Megan.  She is here in Colorado at her parents home.  They had a big family wedding yesterday and then the shower today. Unfortunately, Mark was not able to come with her as he had a big golf event at his club yesterday and had to be there.  He said the event went off perfectly and he got a lot of wonderful compliments for all of his hard work organizing it. Today he is just playing golf and relaxing.

My neighbor that had to have her feet amputated over a year ago is going to have to have another surgery this week.  Bless this ladies heart....she is the most positive person I think I have ever known.  Through all of her struggles over the past 4 years with infections of her leg and feet, ultimately causing her to have to have the amputations, she just keeps on plugging along.  In addition to this, she lost her 102 year old mother last month.  Would you believe she had her driver that takes her to PT, stop at a baby store so she could buy Marks new baby a gift?  She called me over yesterday to see the darling things she had purchased....she was so excited over the tiny little things and said that with all of the stressful things she has to deal with, just the thought of this new life coming was such a wonderful thought in her mind that she just wanted to be part of it.  How sweet is this?  I ask for your prayers for Pam.  She will have this surgery on Wednesday, and of course will be laid up again for 6 to 8 weeks before she can get her new prosthesis and start the PT again so she can return to walking.  Thank you in advance.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

Oh, my, Jenny & Janie.... when we think WE have problems we read about what someone else is facing & I do feel guilty even thinking a "pitty me" thought.  So sorry for your friend, Jenny & your brother, Jane... they have suffered so much, prayers for their strength to hold up and God's mercy that they heal fast.

Larry, my father raised collards, kale & okra, I know at least one year.  Seems to me that Mother pickled the okra... not a big hit with anyone, my husband loved it fried.  The grocery store deli has it in little fried slices most of the time & I would pick him up a small container now & then... to munch.  I didn't like it well enough to want to add the calories to my body, I'll save those calories & fat for potato chips, thank you very much~~ Dad loved to garden & always had enough to feed the whole neighborhood, besides what Mother canned.  Later in life they enjoyed drying various things to preserve ... sun dried & Dad rigged the clothes dryer to be still & dried apple slices in it a few years.  They would store them in a gunny sack in the attic & Mom would get a couple hands full & re-hydrate them for either apple sauce or stewed apples.  She always had a bowl of fruit, Dad was also a prune lover, sitting on the table.  My mother thought Adele Davis & her "You Are What You Eat" book was the answer to being healthy.

Dad grew up with a mother that raised & served very healthy French foods, his father did not help with the garden.  He showed me the window where they put screens out on the roof to dry apricots... it was his grandmother's room and he was so pleased to show me that the original hinges were still on those windows!  That place was torn down for the walnut logs it was built out of.  By the time I saw it someone had covered the logs with flat wood planks, looked like an ordinary wooden 2 story house with dormer rooms ... the house was open & Dad took us inside to the cellar to show us those logs.  The farm had been sold so they could move into town, but they cut their own logs & had a local builder cut them into boards before selling the land.  The farm had been left to MY grandmother by HER grandfather who is buried, along with wife & mother, in the cemetery on the back of the land.  They retained ownership to the cemetery but because the courthouse burned & all records lost, the title never showed private ownership of the cemetery.

So much for my memories....Gloria, I keep trying to understand my iPhone but it hates me.... it really does.  Since it is my only contact with the outside world when on the road, I have made peace with being able to call one of my kids to let them know I am okay, but not good with hearing & answering their calls.  Since it is a tracfone service that I pay for by the year, I don't care that I have thousands of minutes for talk, text & internet... whatever it's called to shop online, get weather, etc.  If I got desperate enough I'd probably figure it out.

Have a great holiday, everyone............Super Sunday & Marvelous Monday (yes, Callie, got that right?)

JaneS

Jim's doing better and apologizing to everyone for scaring them again.  He's such a good guy!  Thank you for the prayers and good thoughts.  I still don't know any particulars.  I had a text message from my niece and she said to thank everyone!

I've been a do-nothing since church.  I got all the stuff out to make something for dinner and I've changed my mine umpteen times since I got it all out.  If I don't settle on something soon, it will be too late.  I seem to be living in a slump right now.  Hopefully, I can get back on track and get moving!

JENNY, your friend's situation and her good nature makes me ashamed of the way I'm behaving.  She certainly is an inspiration!

I hope everyone is having a nice day!

Janie, I wish I could have been sitting with you on your porch. we could have prayed and sang together. I have an old hymnal from my Episcopal church. It is falling apart but I still use it every morning to sing a favorite hymn. I am praying that your ills will soon be all healed. I know God is doing it.

I did all my usual morning stuff, then got on the computer to check the daily temps, happened to glance up at the date, and it said Sunday……and I thought it was Sat. I had ten minutes to get dressed and down to church. I was late, as they were just starting the first hymn. Came home all tired out, and have been that way all day long. Guess I'm paying for the whoopee of last night…….but it was worth it !I I did go down for lunch, and out for a walk and about an hour of chit-chat with friends…me on the glider..them on benches. I finally made myself go home and had a nap.

Just had another walk around the garden and will have a light supper at home. I eat a hearty lunch, so tonight I will have some cereal with milk and a banana, and that will take me through the night.

Tomorrow our administrative offices are closed, and no activities are posted, so it will be a very quiet day here at Rowntree  Gardens. Our clinic is open 24/7, so no problem there and of course the dining rooms and kitchen are active.

Time for me to close down and go fix my supper…another dose of breathing medicine at 7, more pills at 9.p.m. and then I am on my own. With God. Aren't we Blessed ?? Thank you God.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I was still trying to decide what to do with the hamburger that I took out of the freezer when my daughter texted that my grandson had shown up for a weekend visit with his sister and they were all going to THE FENCE for supper.  Did I want to go along!  So I stuck the hamburger in the fridge to deal with tomorrow and I joined the picnic.

THE FENCE is a local hangout that's open from mid-April to mid-October and had car service and table service both outside and inside.  It's on the bank of the Susquehanna River and besides being a beautiful spot, it has great food.

So now I've postponed my decision until tomorrow.

Gloria de, you certainly do have good neighbors and I can tell they love you!

JUNE, that would have been nice to have you join me on the porch and sing hymns with me.  Do you do a different one every day?  Do you have a favorite?  My all time favorite is still "Onward Christian Soldiers" because that and "Jesus Loves Me" are the first ones I ever learned but I have many others.  I also have an old Hymnal!

I'm going to say...

Good Night Everyfriend!  Sleep peacefully! Rest well!  Wake refreshed and may God bless us, every one!

Good evening.  We are home, clothes changed and in our “rechargers”, AKA, recliners.....all settled in for a peaceful evening.

The shower was delightful and Megan looks just beautiful....oh and that baby bump is SO special.  She got so many darling gifts.....that little Jonah is going to be a well dressed little guy❣️

GLORIA de, you do indeed have wonderful neighbors that take very good care of you.  Everything sounds so yummy.  How did you like how the wings turned out in the air oven?

JANE, bless your “brother”, feeling he has to apologize for scaring everyone again.....sure happy to read he is improving and rest assured the prayers continue for him.  I understand exactly what you are saying, regarding my neighbor, but you know each of us have our own burden to carry, but I do think it does us good to know that others really do have such so much more to deal with and then, it makes our situation seem so much easier.  🦋 I hope tomorrow will be a bit brighter for you.  One day at a time🙏

SHIRLEY, my mother-in-law was born in England and she was never considered much of a cook....very bland food.  The is one dish she did fix that was basically hamburger, tomatoes, onions, peppers and okra that was so yummy....I loved it.  That was the first time I had ever even heard of okra.  I have since had it fried but honestly can take it or leave it.  I have never seen strips of them fried.  I am about to send you a picture from yesterday on Pikes Peak....it is white with snow!

LARRY, I have never had boiled peanuts but if they are anything like moist chestnuts I hope I never have them.  I was so excited to eat this package of chestnuts when we were in Boston, and I have to tell you they were AWFUL!  I will never think fondly of “chestnuts roasting on an open fire again”!

We just did FaceTime with Brian and Cathy on the bullet train on their way back to Seoul.  It is hard to believe we can be talking to them when they are that FAR away let alone to SEE them!  They are having a wonderful time.

YEA, JANIE....you are headed out to dinner....have a wonderful time with your family.

Enjoy the rest of your evening, EVERYFRIEND.

PLEASANT dreams to all.

Good morning everyone, going to be hot here today and for most of the week again. Might have another heat wave this week. According to the weather people we had the warmest August on record here and broke some old records for heat. Already 71° at 4:31am. Yes I am wide awake early today. Had both sons here yesterday and that was nice. Today one is going to a fair today with his wife and daughter and the other is going car races in Thompson Ct. He and my DIL both enjoy them. Around here it will be another very quiet day.

LARRY  I have had nights when my mind keeps wandering to different things and when I finally get to sleep I wake late, not fun. Wonder how long it will take my new SS card to get here. If they go alphabetically mine will be one of the last sent out. Supposed to take a year to send them all out or so I read.

JANE  glad you felt good enough to get to church yesterday.  Enjoy your niece's visit, I know it will be much too short. Prayers ongoing for Jim.

JENNY  wonderful that you will be at the baby shower for you DIL and the soon to be grand. My heart goes out to your neighbor and I pray for successful surgery.

SHIRLEY  if the iPhone came with an instruction book I might have had better luck with it. I did find one online but was not ready to print it out. So many pages to it most likely would have taken a ream of paper and would have needed more ink. I stick with a trackfone flip phone. I seldom use it so have more minutes on it than I will ever use.

JANE  you are so used to being in good health it is hard to come to terms when you suddenly get sick or twist your back like you did, I well know how a bad back feels. This feels to ‪ it has gone on way too long. No matter what I have tried nothing helps and I am so tired of not being able to cook and stand/walk on my own but am glad I can get around with my rollator.

GLORIA  de  it must be a wonderful caring neighbors you have.  I miss when I lived upstairs in my son's house, he would come up every day when he came home from work and so many time he would bring a meal up for me. If I do not get outside most days I would see no one in here. Thank goodness I have the computer and can come in here every day and visit with our cyber family.

JUNE  no staff here on weekends and we are on our own. Except for our maintenance man who is very nice the manager and her slave (we have started calling him that) we are on our own anyway unless she decides to star t picking on someone.

JENNY  don't forget me if you are emailing beautiful pictures, especially with snow. Shirley and I are alike with that.

Looks like I wrote a big book this morning.

Have a great Labor Day everyone.

Good morning everyone..

We had a wee thunder storm this morning, not enough to put the dog in a panic and then some rain.

Not sure what today will bring just know I will not go on the highway as traffic will be bumper to bumper with all the cottagers going back home. School buses will be on the roads tomorrow.  We are looking after the neighbour pets today while they go see his Mom.

Gloria, we are also heading back into the hot humid weather. I shall be so happy when Fall comes and cooler days.

Jane, happy to read that Jim is doing better, is he out of the hospital now or will they keep him a few days just to make sure everything is ok?

Jenny, love the "rechargers" I too use mine a lot in the evening. Prayers for your neighbour. What a remarkable lady she is!

Gloria de, wow, what kind neighbours and what a feast you had.

Shirley, not sure what collards are but I have tried kale and will leave it for others.....just not a fan of it.

Larry, it has been a few days since I have sat and sewed so I am looking forward to it. I will take these 7 tops in when done and pick up 5 more and that should be it for Camp Quilts.

Lloyd, hope you found more zzz's  .

Enjoy your day everyone..

I did Amy  I did. now to figure out what to do with the day. It is already 74º and headed for the high 80'sº . I do not handle the heat well any more. I used to when i was young work in front of a forge working hot iron on days in the triple digest. but no more. i use a big 40" fan now when it is in the 70's in the shop and centrial air in the house. have a great day everyone.

WOW!  You've all been so busy!  Makes me feel like a sluggard!  I'll make up for it this afternoon.  I'll be back behind my counter at Wally World!  Wish me smiles and short lines.  I don't go in until 3:30 so maybe everyone will be at their picnics by then and it will be a slow day.

GLORIA, it's not a niece that's here although I'd enjoy that too. This is my granddaughter who lives in Texas.  She's finished her internship at Menninger Clinic and has accepted a permanent job as a clinical Psychologist there.  She's "in between" so it was a good time to visit her family in PA.  Her brother lives and works and enjoys the young bachelor life in Philadelphia so he decided this was a good time to reunite with his sister.  My daughter and SIL are overjoyed!

I wonder where JOY is!  I hope she's just feeling too punk to join us and nothing has happened.  I really enjoy her comments.  And I wish Phyllis and Carol would pop in.  My mind just blanked.  Who else is missing?

I have to deal with some financial stuff today.  I really wish a genie would take that over.  It's a job I've never enjoyed.  I wonder if it's easier to do if you don't have to borrow from one place to accommodate another!  I guess I'll never know that!

It's going to be a scorcher here, too.  It's 72 right now heading for a high of 90 and the humidity level is 95º!  That's waaaay too high!

I guess I better get started on the "books".  No use putting it off!  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Where's my mind?  I forgot to say that I'm pretty sure Jim is still in the hospital but h might be going home today or tomorrow.  Thank you all for keeping him in your prayers.

Hi Everyone. The holiday here looks like it will be a duplicate of the last several days and thus be hot and probably no rain.  I had a very good nights sleep last night and didn't awake until about 7 this morning.  After getting ready for the day I laid back down and read email, discussions and devotionals , as I often do so it was 8 before I left the bedroom.  I just plan on a slow and laid back day today.  We will be staying home all day.  It is unusual but the last round of the golf tournament is being play today and I plan on watching it later this afternoon.

We had a good Church service yesterday although our choir was away on an annual weekend retreat and the attendance was down in both our Sunday School class and the Church service as guess a lot of people were taking advantage of the long weekend to be away.  Pat did go to Church yesterday and then we stopped at Firehouse Subs for our lunch and I was able to use the coupon to get a free medium sized sub and also had a coupon for a free drink so it was a nicely priced lunch.

Jane, nice to read you were able to get out and attend Church without ill effects.  I hope you have a great time with your granddaughter.  You must be very proud of her finishing her internship and then being full-time employed where she interned.  She must have been a very impressive and competent intern. I know you must be feeling a lot better when you start talking about cooking again and now I see you are going back to work behind the counter this afternoon. Glad to read that Jim is feeling better.  Nice to read that you had a chance to go out to eat with family last evening as sure that was a pleasant experience after being confined for several days.

Jenny, glad you got to attend the shower for Megan.  I expect Mark is staying pretty busy most of the time with his new responsibilities as the head pro at the golf club.   It sounds like your poor neighbor is a very positive person.  Shopping for the shower obviously gave her something to be joyful about.

Shirley, I remember my grandmother liked collards and would fix them and serve them at some of the family dinners.  They always put vinegar on them and the same with turnip greens.  I don't recall my mother ever growing kale.  I had Pat order a package of pretzels a few days ago but yesterday told her not to order anymore as they are like potato chips it is hard to stop eating them and they are empty calories.  The last time I was at Costco I bought a big bag of dried plums (prunes) and they are delicious.  I am trying to remember to eat two of them each morning as a part of my breakfast.

deAngel, glad to see that you have such wonderful neighbors that share some of their meals with you.  Is your nephew still there with you?

June, I still have one of the old hymnals from the Church where I grew up.  Fortunately our Sunday School class uses the old Methodist hymnbook that has many of the old hymns I grew up singing.  I do think hymnbooks may become a thing of the past as more and more people gravitate to the Contemporary services where the words to the songs are shown on a big screen.  At least you had a reason to be tired yesterday since you had been out dancing the evening before.  It sounds like you still had a pretty active day of getting out of your apartment.

Jenny, I like peanuts and other nuts to be crunchy when I bite into them and boiled peanuts are just not crunchy at all.  I have never tasted chestnuts that I recall and sure I wouldn't want them boiled either. Isn't FaceTime a great feature of the iPhones.  It is pretty amazing that we can now actually see people we are talking to whether a short or long distance to us.  I have been able to keep close touch with my best friend over in Georgia on FaceTime and will to talk with him again today as we talk about once a week.

Gloria, I was surprised to see your posting had been done so early this morning.  If you have another heat wave I hope it will be short lived.  We got close but haven't had a day all summer where it got to 100 degrees other than with the heat index.  Today it is suppose to get around 90 degrees although we are usually a few degrees higher than predicted.  I had forgotten all about getting the new SS cards.  Did you ever check out short instructional videos on YouTube on how to use the iPhone.

Lloyd, I have had several of those chemical stress tests and you just feel sick for a couple of minutes and then they reverse the effects and you feel like you did when you started.  I never found a problem driving after having the test done.  However, I expect Pat was with me and may have driven home that day.  Hope you were able to get some more sleep this morning.

Amy, today is a good day to stay off of the roads as are most holidays.  I don't think you have missed anything by not eating collards and I see you don't care for kale either.  Pat fixed one meal with it and I flushed the rest of the large package down the garbage disposal, which plugged it up and I had to have a repairman out to unclog it.  What will you sew after you complete the Camp Quilts?  It must be unusual for you not to sew for a few days.  Are you experiencing withdrawal?  :)

Jane, I hope you get short lines as you return to work.  Maybe most people won't want to shop on this holiday.

Carol

How fortunate we are to have this place just for us!

I have been in the basement on and off and trying to choose what to drag to a consignment store.  They are very picky.  They won't take my mother's collection of blue Mor's Dag - Mother's Day plates that usually hang on the wall in any Scandinavian house.  Why?   :)

Jane:  Blessings to your brother Jim.

Jenny:  Your neighbor Pam sounds like a trooper about her health.  I wish her a full recovery!  When and where is this next baby due?

Shirley:  I hate these cell phones.  I am in charge & this one has accidentally "butt dialed" but most embarrassing was after ten p.m. to a neighbor who was trying to get my attention and asked me why I was calling?  I was flabbergasted.

Gloria de:  You have wonderful neighbors because you are a wonderful neighbor!

I've checked in at least half a dozen times today, got up first about 2:30 am checking on cats, the open door & if there was wind to blow a soft rain in or if the door could stay open.  That made me hungry so both cats joined me in the kitchen.  About 6:00 am I decided to go back for more zzzzzzzzzzzzzs because I didn't need to be any place until about 5:00 pm (church picnic).

8:00 am the phone woke me out of a dead sleep, you know how it feels to have your heart hammering in your ears & you are about 2 feet up in the air..... it was "This is Alice from Microsoft, we have been trying to reach you"........ I screamed at the phone to "get a life"... remembered the open door & no doubt you could have heard me a mile away... slammed the phone down & crawled back in bed since cats were just laying & looking at me.  I don't often have these fits.

At 9:00 am the phone rang again & this time I was not so deep in sleep but answered (since that bedroom phone does NOT have caller ID, one of my old fav "landline" phones that have 40 programmed numbers in, I have 3 of them yet. I answered because I thought it probably one of my kids since this is a holiday.  WRONG.... Microsoft.... really???

By the way, so far today I have had either 4 or 5 calls from myself ... what it shows on the caller ID.  I have the iPod ready & will put a phone on speaker next time, since they hang up before answering machine picks up... will answer & record.  I'm on a mission.... Google gives me some numbers to call, thought I was still on the no call list, but only the bad guys get special treatment these days. I will record the next call, NOT "press 1 or 2 or whatever".... this is harassment in anybody's book!!!

My nerves have calmed down so better decide what to do with the rest of my afternoon.  Debating if I want to go to the picnic since I've attended every year & know how cute the great grands are running from one "jungle gym" blow up kind & super safe enclosed wooden/metal kind, petting zoo & all the food anyone could wish for.....still hot, harder to keep up with the kids. I am being lazy today after only one days this week getting a normal night of sleep.  I don't have a problem sleeping, just cats, storms or things to do & I need to get busy............

Carol, my friend here had something left by her MIL that she really thought had no value but took it to a consignment shop.. not long before she received a check for nearly $100  for her share, any other shops to try?  Those plates may be just what someone is looking for.  Have you checked on the internet... e-Bay?  I have a few shelves full of white milk glass, some left by my mother & some I found at estate sales.  Problem is I don't remember which were Mother's, I know hers were the old type,  some "hobnail".... & I can't tell the difference. Oh, the shop my friend took to puts the items on line... a regular business for online shoppers. All prices on my hobnail milk glass.

My kids & grands text all the time & are impatient that they have to stop & call me on these days, but I don't always have a pocket to carry a phone in & know about those "sitting calls"... get one now & then & will call back to see if that person needs something (just to let them know I got it)..........  I have a headache so need to get some tinted glasses on.  Allergies are over the top right now & I'm still in a snit. I need to get out of the house but hardly in the frame of mind for a picnic full of laughing little ones.  Few stores open............

Good afternoon, we too. are back to hot, till Friday. Of course I am having trouboe with the A/C. The man came right away, but could do little but patch . He said it looks like animals had gotten into my ducks and I will have to have big repairs by this winter for the heat to work.  It is not easy working under a mobile home.

Mary Ann, maybe you should just get yourself checked out. My primary doctor has me come in every 2 months for a check up, Of course I know I have anemia and I have to have my blood check every 2 weeks, and every 6 weeks I see the dermatologist. which is this Wednesday.

Jenny the wings were OK,  but there is nothing like deep fried once in a while. When I stayed a couple of weeks in Colorado Springs many years ago I could lay in bed and look  at Pikes Peak.

Jane, my all time favorite hymn is In Garden and of course Amazing Grace I have wrote this before I can still see  a black airman, he was over 6ft singing with tear going down his face, he was one of the men who worked with Dennis and he had requested to sing that hymn at his furnal on the base

I made it through my shift and I think I have a second helper on the CSM force.  He made a change so I could have the last half of my shift on an express register!

The heating pad and epsom salts sure felt good when I got home!  And now I'm off to Dreamland.  Mickie has an appointment at the vet so I'll have to be up and attem tomorrow.  I wish you all a good night of refreshing sleep and a good tomorrow.  May God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone...

We are off to meet a friend to exchange quilt tops this morning, go to an appointment and then high tail it back home. Made Chelsea buns and bread yesterday, put a plate full in the neighbour oven when I went to let the dog out. When they came home I met her at the fence with a warm loaf of bread.

Larry, when these Camp Quilt are done I will move on to my projects . I can always do more cancer quilts too ,so we shall see.

Jane, nice for the force to be with you. They know you are a valued employee . Hope all is well with Mickie.

I had better get dressed and get!!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

AMY, if I were that friend who came home to a nice, warm loaf of bread, I be happy.  You're such a good friend in need!  I'm sure your neighbors appreciate having you nearby.

Mickie's trip to the vet is a regular checkup so I'll have to keep an eye on her until we go.  The need a sample of her "digested food" so I'll be following her around until she goes.  She also has some kind of scale on her back that appears to be itchy so we'll have them check that out.

Gonna be a busy morning!  I hope you all have a good day!

Good morning everyone, another hot and humid day here. For the kids who started school last week and again today the schools without AC will release the students at noon. First time this has happened, usually by the time school starts it is not this hot.

LLOYD  yesterday I did go back to bed and slept a few more hours. Heck my time is my own now and can sleep if I can, right?

AMY  I will be happy when it gets no higher than 70° for a high, already 73 now. Like you I dislike the taste of kale and I like most greens.

JANE  don't know why I said niece when I know you said it was granddaughter, blame it on age?

LARRY  I cannot imagine eating any boiled nuts but I do love roasted chestnuts. I used to make my Thanksgiving turkey with chestnut dressing, so very good.  These days chestnuts are much to expensive for my wallet. We did not get into the triple digits except for the heat index.

SHIRLEY  as if Microsoft would know your phone number, I have had those calls and tell them i do not have a computer and they will call back again lat er in the day. Those robo calls should be outlawed.

GLORIA de  I am lucky I only have to see my doctor every 4 months. My back is the only thing I have trouble with.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Hi Everyone. It will be another hot day here in South Carolina with a low probability of rain.  My main activity for today will be a visit to the dentists office for my 6 month cleaning.  Yesterday was a quiet day as expected but I did enjoy the golf yesterday afternoon.  Pat made a very good cooked cabbage and noddles recipe with chunks of Kielbasa, chopped up onions and peas with olive oil.  It made a big bowl full of food and we will have a couple more meals from it in the days to come.

Yesterday evening our granddaughter sent us an email wanting to know if we would be willing to give her an early Christmas present.  It is a small computer that is really a tablet with an detachable keyboard that Walmart had on sale for the holiday.  She is working to get her GED and the work is on the computer.  She has been using her dad's computer but apparently there are conflicts sometimes when she want to work and he needs his computer.

Carol, it does sound like the consignment place is very particular.  I bet those plates are pretty.

I am surprised your phone would dial automatically.  The ones Pat and I have require you slide a bar across the bottom of the screen and that avoid accidental calling.

Shirley, I don't blame you for being upset with the call so early in the morning and it being a scam anyway as Microsoft never calls you out of the blue.  I often have robo calls in the afternoon with the area code where we used to live and they will awaken me from my afternoon nap even though I don't answer them.  You know that political calls are exempt from the "Do Not Call" list.  You do have a lot of things to interrupt your sleep cycles.

deAngel, having lived in a mobile home I know how difficult it can be working under one.  I hope he was able to fix it enough so that you can stay cool this week.  The hymn "In the Garden" was one of my mother's  favorites and we had it sung at her funeral service.  I think Amazing Grace must be about everyone's favorite, at least it is one of mine.

Jen, glad to see you have another sift manager willing to see you get at least part of your shift on the express register.

Amy, do you usually get in on your appointment near the appointment time?  Here it seems that although you may get taken to a room fairly close to your appointment time it often is quite awhile before you are actually seen by the doctor.  What a nice gesture with your fresh Chelsea bread. The closest I get to fresh bread anymore is from Costco or Panera.

Lloyd, getting to 85 degrees isn't too bad unless the humidity is very high.

Gloria, with all the air conditioning around us anymore I am sure the kids and teachers really suffer when it is so hot.  Glad they will be on half days during the hot spell.  My great grand kids start school on Wednesday in Lake Lucerne, New York and I expect their school will also be hot.  I don't think I have ever noticed chestnuts for sale where I have lived but have never really looked for them.
