James is walking on a downtown street one day, and he happens to see his old high school friend, Harry, a little ways up ahead. "Harry, Harry, how are you?" he greets his old buddy after getting his attention.

"Not so good," says Harry.

"Why, what happened?" James queries.

"Well," Harry says, "I just went bankrupt and I've still got to feed my family. I don't know what I'm going to do."

"Could have been worse," James replies calmly. "Could have been worse."

A month or so later, James again encounters Harry, in a restaurant. "And how are things now?" he asks.

"Terrible!" says Harry. "Our house burned down last night."

"Could have been worse," says James, again with total aplomb, and goes about his business.

A month later, James runs into Harry a third time. "Well, how goes it?" he inquires.

"Oh!" says Harry. "Things just get worse and worse. It's one tragedy after another! Now my wife has left me!"

Harry nods his head and gives his usual optimistic-seeming little smile, accompanied by his usual words: "Could've been worse."

This time, Harry grabs James by the shoulders. "Wait a minute!" he says. "I'm not gonna let you off so easy this time. Three times in the past few months we've run into one another, and every time I've told you the latest disaster in my life. Every time you say the same thing: 'Could have been worse.' This time, for God's sake, Harry, I want you to tell me: how in Heaven's name could it have been any worse?"

James looks at Harry with the same little wisp of a smile. "Could have been worse," he says. "Could have happened to me."

Old Penguins never die, they just get hard of herring.

Old Philosophers never die, they just kant.

Well, looks like you caught 3 of us trying to post!  My said an error so I went back & then it said that I had already posted that. Not sure where it went but will have a look & try to post again if it doesn't show up.  :crazy2:  Beautiful graphics & love the funnies. I expected "could have been worse"... could not hear.

Original Post:
Callie, when I stopped at the little park in Canyon City one time, for "tourist info".... a friendly lady was telling me all the perks for living in that town.... "more sunshine than CA or FL per year, it was called the Banana Belt..." She had me convinced it was the place to live, but too hot & dry for me. Not far from the mountains but after so many years of visiting, I'm satisfied where I am for full time living.

Sorry, I am a little distracted right now, I opened the sliding door to let cats out & a black spider walked in. Have a floor vent right there & by the time I grabbed a fly swatter the spider disappeared. I got the spray out & squirted down the vent & on the slider tracks, sitting on the edge of my chair looking for it. I can handle just about anything but life time fear of spiders. Going to the other room, put on my shoes, have goose bumps on my arms, a silly way to be, huh?

Think I heard mention of rain later so need to check weather. I opened the slide on the RV & put out the awning to all dry out. Did NOT get any rain inside but can't prevent water seeping into the awning & even the top of the slide. It was hot & sunny here today, can't believe tomorrow is June 1.......

Today is the start of "RiverFest" but the water on the Arkansas river is so deep & swift it is off limits for any of the usual activities. I think it is 10 days but they eliminated having the Art & Book Fair with it... that was the original reason for the big party~~ and the only activity I was interested in, used to have up to 300 artists & craftspeople with their work.  For many years I would have my own booth, would sell nearly everything I took & enjoyed visiting with people. I will only hear the fireworks every night as they shoot over the river downtown & sound follows up stream. We used to be able to watch the aerial part but trees have grown too tall between this house & downtown.

Not the first time it's switched right after I've posted.

G'morning all.A beautiful bright sunny day here, so i thought i would share these two sites with my 'Armchair Walking Friends', you probably know the story of 'Princess Pokahontas',but did you know she lies somewhere in St Georges Churchyard London, This area of London was badly bombded during the 1940 Blitz and all records of where her actual grave was sited were destroyed, this statue of her was presented to St georges by 'The National Society of The Dames of America', but her actual grave remains unknown due to the Bombing .

Good morning everyone, very foggy here this morning. Was surprised when I pulled the shades up.  We had our warmest day yesterday and I turned on the AC and ran it all night  but slept great. After CNA left yesterday I spent a few hours out on the porch with several others till the sun was too hot there. Just heard of another mass shooting in Virginia. So sad to hear about a person killing others like that. Has anyone been watching Jeopardy? That James -current winner-has won almost 2½ million$$.

BUBBLE  thank you for a new page for June, boy this year is moving along fast. Love the graphic of the Stars & Stripes. I get a thrill every time I see our flag flying. I am sure you feel good when you see your flag flying, too. Great quote from Dickens.

SHIRLEY  my daughter is like you with spiders. Has been since she was very young.

PETER  both sites you posted look interesting. I will watch them when I finish posting, thanks for all the trips you take us on. I have enjoyed my arm chair traveling.

AMY  I did spend a few hours outside yesterday. It wan the best spring day we have had this year.

Have a good day.

Well, Shirley, I have no idea how you found your missing post because this thing did the same to me as you related and I can't/couldn't find mine.

Oh well, it's a new day.  I do remember that I thanked everyone for the nice comments about my "Tulsa Trio"....my great granddaughter and her parents.  And I mentioned that my son was on the way over to mow my grass (he did) and before he left he told me that he'd spent a large part of the night at the hospital emergency room with his wife who underwent emergency laproscopic surgery for appendicitis sometime during the night.  She's alright and home recuperating.

Also, the guy was here to try to mend the mud patches in my front yard so my fur buddies have to go out on the leashes for a while to avoid walking in certain areas.  That's a lot of fun in the dark.  And I don't get to sit on the porch and watch the sun come up in the morning.  But I keep telling myself, it's going to be better!

Roley, thank you again for the pleasant "walks" you take us on.  If I were still travelling, England would be my favorite destinations.  I've been there 3 times and there's so much I missed!  You're helping to bring some of those places to me!

Bubble, thank you for keeping us current.  You do such good work and you do stuff for us that we are too dumb to do for ourselves.  What ever would we do without you!

I hope you all have a good day!  Ours is supposed to be sunny!  I hope they're
right!

Almost forgot...Yesterday's lost message contained a note to JENNY that I've added her father to my prayers for her family.

Good morning.  I missed yesterday because it was a busy day and stormy.  We had a hail storm and torrential rain yesterday evening but the sun is in and out this morning so my little world seems to have gotten through all of it in pretty good condition.  I hope my new roof didn't get damaged again. I don't know if the insurance company would pay for another one so soon after the last one I had to replace because  one of last year's hurricanes caused leaks upstairs.  The weather has been so crazy the last few years and this year is even worse.  Can't do anything about the weather, though, so I just keep my fingers crossed when these storms pop up.

The deer are visiting us often now.  We watched one down in the garden happily eating Hardy Begonias and David said he saw another one near the fern bed around mid-night.  They are coming more frequently now and coming up closer to the house.  They are getting very bold.

Breakfast is calling so I must get on with the day.  Please take care and stay well, Everyone.

Hi Everyone.  Lots of progress being made here fixing things up just the way I want them here in my bedroom. My big computer is all set up and working.  Scott had picked up the wireless adapter needed for this computer as it had some without wireless installed. In the meantime I remembered that I had several of the wireless adapters and he immediately found the little plastic bag I had stored them in and he had my desk computer up and running in a couple of minutes.  This is what I am using the this morning after spending time cleaning out a drawer in my computer desk I haven't been able to use for years as had another wing of my desk up against it.  That little wing will now become my secondary computer desk so on sunny mornings, if I want to I can go to my old office, where I have shelves and plastic drawers, etc and they will now be available.

It is very nice to take things at a snails pace as find I often have to stop what I am doing, whether moving around in my wheelchair or doing little odd jobs that I can handle, and just rest for a few minutes until some of my stamina is restored.  I didn't sleep very well or very long last night but discovered two things.  The first was that I had the little mattress cover that changes pressures all the time set way to high and thus was having great difficulty moving in bed.  The second one was I was cold and when I put on my new, very warm bathrobe I became more comfortable.  I also turned down the ceiling fan that is right over my hospital bed.  I think these little twinks will help me get a better nights sleep.  I did get up at 4 am again this morning but Pat and I enjoyed a very quiet and restful afternoon after Scott was here for a couple of hours working on more things but had to leave to get ready for work.  Elizabeth emailed me saying she wouldn't be out as needed to spend a couple of days working on her college online course so that freed up the rest of the day.  I laid down to rest and asked Pat to just fix me a light supper and I ate it in bed while she joined me and we watched Wheel and Jeopardy together.  Thus we spent some time together.  My plan for today is to get started on my 35 point list, most of which involves doing things at the computer and this will be probably a spend money day and check on day, although Saturday and Sunday has limitations but most online sites are responsive 24/7.  I intend to just take things quietly and not push as we have been and hopefully no visitors today (don't mean any disrespect but the last few days have just been very hectic.  Enough rambling for this morning and while doing so I have had a chance to sort of rest.

Yesterday I made a decision and Pat agrees that it is time to find someone to do the ironing for her.  With her back she can only do one or two blouses at a time.  We already have a lead on someone that Scott works with and has known her a long time and it is possible Elizabeth would like to earn some extra spending money, although we will likely go with the lady Scott works with if she is interested.

Shirley, I don't envy anyone who takes you on since you are armed and know how to use it.  You are a lady I hope I never forget as you have given me some good laughs and images of you speeding up the mountain, riding your new bike, your motor home, etc.  You must be one of a kind.

Callie, I have never felt so free in my life.  I have been told to eat what I want, just do what I want and go out if I feel up to it or it is alright to just stay in our nice home.  My bedroom is about done although I decided this morning I am going to get a small grab bar to put on the wall next to my computer station and a small office chair.  Trying to use either the walker or the wheelchair to get up to the keyboard just isn't working very well.  I keep thinking of small tweaks that will make things safer and more convenient for me.  I am having a great time planning all of this and then sitting back and watching my loved ones or good neighbor across the street do the actual work.  Right now Pat and I just need a couple of quiet days and things shouldn't be as hectic in the future as these last few days have been.  Our housekeeper has cleaned house for quite a few people under Hospice care but in talking with her yesterday I found there were quite a lot of things I could share, based on my own experience so far, that she didn't know particularly the way it is finished with Medicare Part A and basically no medical costs out of our pockets.  I will forever be grateful to my heart doctor who mentioned Hospice to me as the way I was going downhill another 5 months like I have had this year prior to Hospice could well have done me in and I sure hope to be around a lot longer than that to enjoy the way I am getting everything set up.  It is nice to get interested in special sporting events involving our local schools.

Bubble, thanks for another great start for our new month with your graphics and funnies.  I enjoyed them all.

Lindancer, hope this is a good day for you.  I got some great rest last night and got up feeling stronger this morning and have been able to accomplish quite a bit but have to so slowly and awhile ago just laid back down on the bed to rest for awhile.  The mornings are sure long when they start at 4 am.

Roley, thanks for sharing the links for the "armchair" walks.

Amy, it seems you seldom slow down.  You remind me of my Mother who always had things to do.  I have certainly never had to work as hard as my parents doing manual things as made up my mind as a youth to use my head and not my back.  I didn't like the farm but won't bore you with the reasons. Today is a great day for me.

Gloria, glad you were able to enjoy your porch and visit with other folks.  The killing of eleven people in Virginia is certainly a sad thing.  This was apparently a disgruntled city employee who did the killing. We have been watching Jeopardy every evening and James is certainly a unique person.  I expect him to reach $3 million if not more.  I respect brilliant people with such instant recall.

Jane, isn't it great that they now do so much surgery with laproscopic and not even a nights stay is needed in the hospital (which is a good place to avoid if at all possible).  I hope your daughter-in-law has a quite healing and not much pain. I think we would be lost without Bubble and Oldiesman.  We are indeed blessed to have them as a part of these sites.

Phyllis, I understand there was a popup or two showers around here late yesterday afternoon but not where I live.  There is an interesting thing that happens almost everyday around here that on a sunny day the sun goes under a cloud around 4 pm or on rainy days the sun pops out for awhile around that same time.  It seems that every time I pick up something to read it gets dark in the house.

Larry, I'm glad to see your plans coming together as you want and need them.  Scott has been such a great help to you.  I think Pat needs help with the ironing too.  I can't remember the last time I ironed or pressed anything.

Phyllis, I hope the more recent hail wasn't as large as the previous time.  It is hard for me to imagine large hailstones because our hail storms usually are of pea-sized hail.  A few years ago I was in Indps and there was a hail storm.  I had never heard such noise during a storm (thunder and lightning, yes, not hail) and found it was the hail hitting the siding of the house.  The hail stones were about an inch in diameter and I understand hail stones come even larger than that!  I wouldn't want the deer so close to my house and we don't have enough vegetation to entice them.

I bookmarked Roley's links and I'll watch them soon.  First I'm going to see if there are any ships in the Great Lakes, especially on the St Clair River.

Mary Ann

Phyliss, I keep forgetting to ask how you are doing with your Instant Pot? Not sure if I posted this for you before or not...so please excuse if I have already done so.
https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/25-one-pot-dinners-for-the-instant-pot/

Laundry is blowing on the line, the rain that threated to fall didn't    I did get the grass seed on the front lawn with hopes that rain would help it .

Bubble, thank you for the new start! I guess we all have been in that position."Could have been worse "

Larry, it is a real joy to read your post and see you have everything under control and getting things done that benefit you both. I know I will nevr get rid of the walker or wheelchair as we never know when it may be needed. The neighbour has borrowed the wheelchair when he has to take his 92 yr old Mom for Dr appointments so it is getting good use.I enjoy gardening, running the tiller and smelling the fresh dirt..guess the farmer will always be in me .:)

Lloyd, no problem, don't worry, I can send another if that one doesn't open.

Roley, thank you for the stroll...even had my cuppa tea watching them.

Happy June Oneth

Pouring rain....again. >:(  The softball tournament is on "weather delay" but I'll bet they'll have to cancel. OU won the game last night so is in the semifinals tomorrow and OSU is supposed to play a consolation game at 6:00.  We shall see....

Grandson hosting an afternoon fraternity party for prospective new members...supposed to be around their pool.  Hope they had a Plan B.

I'm trying to catch up on projects I'd intended to do while in out of the weather last winter.  "Who'd a thunk" it would turn into a summer thing ::)

That's what's going on in my little corner of the world.

The doggies and I just took a little walk between storms.  It poured and blew and thundered and ther was lightning while we had our supper and then it stopped.  So, since the doggies can't be I the yard because of the new grss, we walked down to the corner and got the mail and then poked around outside the fence until they did their thing and then we came in.  Just as we got under roof, the rain came again.  How nice to them to wait for us.

LARR, I'm so impressed with your preparations and about hearing how you will use them and I'm 100% sure that I won't be as good at it as you are.  I always have to look for things now.  At this moment, 3 out of 5 pairs of glasses are missing.  They're in the house somewhere but WHERE? You are so efficient!

CALLIE, kids always have an alternate plan when rain or whatever makes them change their minds.  I'm sure your grandson and his friends did too.

YAY for the garden, AMY!  I wish you luck.  Let me know how the pumpkins fare.  There won't be any fruit until late in the season.  They are very slow.

I made my potato salad for the church picnic tomorrow.  And everything else is laid out and ready.  I hope the weather cooperates.  It's supposed to be a nice day.  We're all going to the farm of one of our members and there's a blessing service first and then the picnic.  It's usually a pretty fun day.

I need to go get a drink.  I'm very dry!  I hope you are all having a good day.

Jane, before I forget to mention.... when I discovered there was a problem & my post disappeared, I hit that "back" arrow on top left of my laptop... & the page I was typing came back up. I then did a copy & paste to send it on to the new site. It takes me forever to learn something, but I think it was Larry a long time ago that said to do that.

I am bone tired tonight & gr-daughter's wedding tomorrow evening so won't be any napping tomorrow. Have the early get up to feed me & cats before going to church (leave my garage by 7:00 am). Going to try to get to bed early, as soon as I feed cats one more time. I've already had a shower & washed my hair, need to lay out clothes but want to check weather to see what to wear & off to dreamland. It was HOT today, Gloria, my window thermometer in the shade said 90° but it was steamy so felt worse...whine-whine.

Mary Ann, we've had hail at least baseball & softball size over the years, but when the ice balls pound in & are jagged, they do more damage. I'm not going to say how long since... (after bragging about no dings on my little red car & 24 hours later put a big boo-boo on the front fender... and still crying boo-hoo). The last major hail storm we had while living in this house, I took a video camera across the street after taping our yard & house.... to help a neighbor. We were all standing in the street talking when a car came driving slowly down the street, every window smashed & not 6" anywhere on her car without a big dent, both side mirrors were hanging from the wires. It was almost funny, even the lady driving had to give a little laugh at the wrath of Mother Nature!

I did get to watch Peter's links, very interesting! I would love to have a month to just bop around England to visit the places where we lived back in the '50s but also the places we didn't get to visit. Thank you, Peter!

Larry, had to smile at your "vision" of me. To be honest, all my life someone has been around rein me in. Now I am just a free spirit & my only stopper is I don't want to embarrass my kids. So far they just smile & roll their eyes & encourage me to be careful. My daughter showed up today with a bike helmet.... had to try it on for her. Her husband set me straight on the settings on the new bike... love it, he seemed pleased that I could keep it upright & managed to not fall.

I was lucky to have a mother that allowed each of us to "be ourselves". I'm a little country & a little classic, my living room & dining rooms are formal, dressy, classic white, while the family room/ kitchen is total country & family friendly. Split personality. I loved the dances and cocktail parties when Cas worked and even happier in the woods. Most of all I do enjoy every day, even the bad ones when I wreck my car in the garage. :tissue:

I think a lot of my openness comes from growing up in Missouri, partly because we grew up during war years where everyone cared about each other and thought of ways to help or be kind, but while my parents were opposites in religion, they proved to me that we must accept everyone without trying to change them. I knew I was loved and tried my best to make them happy & proud of me until they died. I like to think my Mom & Dad are sitting up there on that cloud rolling their eyes because, "Shirley is at it again"...

:) One last thought, in my mind you are what you are having grown up on a farm in Missouri. You face life straight forward, don't flinch at the unknown but find a way to share what you learn to help the rest of us. You are a good balance to my wild ways, and I do thank you. If I can give you a few giggles, I'll smile right along with you. :)

Had a phone call from my brother-in-law. I feel sad that he lives so far away, but he does have very close friends and does not consider moving closer to us. We have to know when there is nothing to do to help someone, doesn't make it any easier to know they are lonely. I think I mentioned while ago that I was sleepy & had to feed cats before going to bed. Gotta go.

Wishing all sweet dreams and God Bless (from Hal), sprinkling some of Joan's Angel dust... and from June: "Have a peaceful night dear hearts...give your worries to God and sleep in peace...He will be awake all night anyway. " Shirley

Good morning everyone..

We had rain overnight, no storm just a nice gentle rainfall.

A day of rest here, not sure what mischief I will get into. I do have a lo cabin quilt started and would love to get more done on it but we shall see how the day goes.

Jane, have a great time at the picnic today.

Shirley, I grew up a tomboy and not much has changed. Played with guns instead of dolls, yet loved teddy bears and still do.  :2funny:

Jesse, now has all his baby teeth gone, still growing into a tall lanky pup so far.

Better get moving.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a bit foggy again this morning but not as bad as yesterday. A group of us were on the porch yesterday afternoon. I do enjoy sitting our with others. Seems like only warm days brings others out. Just heard on the weather thunder storms with possible hail this evening. Hope if it hails they are small and do not damage the fragile newly planted gardens around here.

PETER  I enjoyed both or those trips yesterday. Thank you so much for the trips through England.

PHYLLIS  at one time when one saw a deer here it was something talked about. Now there are way too many and they have hunting days for them. I have seen them go right by the front steps of my oldest son's house. He had a lot of them in his orchard, too.

LARRY  that James on Jeopardy amazes me at how fast he answers the questions. I am hoping he at least gets to the 2½ million$$. I love the way Scott is helping you get every thing set up for your comfort. I wonder how many have your amazing outlook and just give up. I am happy you are not.

AMY  I grew up in a city but my Dad always loved gardening and I think it  passed down to me and my 3 because they love planting and working in their gardens. When my daughter started sje learned how  to can t o preserve the more than they could eat.

JANE  hope you have a good sunny day today.

SHIRLEY  wish I could be like you but seldom brave enough to try something new. I like being with people but seldom say much unless I have something to say, Rather listen to others.

LLOYD one thing I cannot do is fall asleep watching a good movie. At times I wish I could.

AMY  I remember getting a new doll at Christmas but never played with them, rather get a jigsaw puzzle or a book.

PETER  thanks for the new walk. will check it out soon.

I think I must be in the summer doldrums.  Everytime I sit down to read and comment in SodaShoppe I start to fall asleep.  I've been waking very early and not able to go back to sleep so that is probably why I can't stay awake during the day.

The deer came back again.  David spotted her down in the woods while we were eating lunch.  This time she had a fawn with her.  It couldn't be more than a few days old.  Still tottering around behind Mom.  So unbelievably cute!

Shirley, our decoration tastes seem to be similar.  My formal living room and dining room are much the same as yours.  White damask wallpaper, white couch, blue velvet wing back chairs. Queen Anne style furniture.  The dining room is neutral gray patterned wallpaper and furniture is colonial with windsor chairs and colonial style hutch.  Family room is just comfortable with several pieces of turn of the century "antiques" and leather recliner and wing back couch and chair.  I've always said that the living room is formal and classic like I wish I was and the family room is casual, laid back like I actually am.  <grin>

Amy, yes you sent the link and I bookmarked it.  Also, found a bunch of other links that I have been exploring.  I have used the pot a couple of times and have been mostly impressed.  I made Mac n' Cheese and I didn't think it came out as good as I was expecting.  But, when I reheated it a day or so later and added more milk it was very good.  Today, for our main meal I intend to fix an oldie that my Mother used to make in her top of stove pressure cooker.  Swiss Steak with mashed potatoes.  I have all the ingredients so we'll see if it tastes like I remember.  But, gosh, even the economy cuts of round or sirloin aren't so economical these days, are they?

I hear David up and stirring so I must start thinking about breakfast.  I think it will be blueberry muffins and fresh fruit cup today.

Jane, I miss all of our SodaShoppe friends like June, Joan, and Hal, and others from past years.  They were all good friends.

Hi Everyone. It looks like we have a cloudy sky this morning and we are to have some cooler weather.  Yesterday seemed to be my day to redo my list of things I want to accomplish and then I reorganized it in my little Google Keep Memo type program so I could read it, organize it in easily used area such as I want to order this from Amazon and then check out local sources for a number of other things I want to get to make my new room easier to use.  My body may be failing a lot and I am very slow but my brain still works (most of the time) and I can think logically.  I do the planning and depend on my wonderful family and friends to make my plans works.  I do have to remain flexible as some of my ideas may not work well or someone suggests something better.  It is nice to be able to work at whatever pace is right for you and then have the luxury of just going and laying down to rest when needed.  How could have God blessed me in any better way in this lifetime and still leave the ultimate when God decides to call me home.

Yesterday afternoon Scott popped in to give me back the laptop he had been able to restore back to factory condition and setting it up again just like I want it is a fun thing to do. So now I can use my big computer here at my computer desk next to my bed or will be able to use the laptop on the bedside table while I rest and then take it out to the family room for the evening when things settle down here, which they are beginning to do.  Pat and I both just need a couple of days of quiet and rest, which this weekend is providing.

Mary Ann, for some reason Pat apparently hadn't thought about getting someone to do the ironing for her and it has been such a difficult and painful thing for her to do.  It didn't take too much arm twisting on my part for her to agree that is a good idea and I hope we soon have someone lined up to do it.  If nothing else we will start using the cleaners although I doubt they could iron her blouses to please her and that is basically what needs to be ironed.

Amy, glad your area was able to miss the expected rain so giving you a day to do some of the outside things you wanted to do. I am still using my learner's permit in trying to learn how to manipulate this wheelchair as it seems the wheels are always going where I don't expect them do.  However, I am learning and the walls and doorways are too damaged and those are minor things that can always be fixed after I am through with this equipment.  Pat and I each own our rollators and the transport chair but all of the other equipment will, of course, be returned to Hospice to help someone else in the future.  Once a farmer's wife always a farmer's wife regardless of whether you live in a farm or in the city.

Callie, I know the weather can play havoc with sports schedules.  I always dread it when I turn in to golf and see they are in a weather delay.  I am really not interested in watching last years matches.  I bet those "last winter projects" that didn't get done were really not all that important and can be done this summer (or not) just as well now as then.

Jane, good timing with the dogs and the rain.  You must have a lot of influence with the big weather man upstairs to hold off on the rain until you were safely inside.  (Maybe this is going a bit too far.) I have three pair of glasses in the house with only one a bifocal with magnification in the lower part and the top part clear glass.  I have come to think of these as the best type for me now as seem to constantly putting the cheaters on and taking them off.  Fortunately I have a shirt pocket in every shirt but it still is a bit of a hassle.

Shirley, I use that same technique and it usually works although occasionally I seem to have hit a key that erases what I was doing--very annoying.  I hope your granddaughter has a beautiful evening for her wedding today.  However, it will be lovely whether rain or shine.  It is fun to be able to be a "free spirit" and I feel that is what I am now having been told to do or not do exactly what I wanted.  I have always been someone who tried to follow the rules and now I get to make my own rules (however, I do have a wife but she is usually agreeable to what I suggest).  Aren't I a lucky person.  Like you I am going to enjoy each and everyday I have left.  I know some will be better than others but that is just the way life is suppose to be.  As like you I also had the great opportunity to grow up in Missouri. I have a good friend and man I worked with over the years, who is a Catholic.  He sent me a beautiful card and note but said he hoped I wouldn't be offended.  Of course I am not offended as I don't have any special knowledge and what I now believe, hopefully based on wisdom from being older, and a little more study from the Bible, has changed many of my thoughts. The thought of doing something that brought pain and dishonor to my folks and especially to my grandmother, whom I still love beyond words, was something that helped me stay on my path and not have to follow the crowd.  You do give me some chuckles and they are always welcome.  I admire your willingness to try new things and now to "live your life" doing the things you enjoy.

Lloyd, hope you don't have to wait too long for the passports but this is a big country, as you know, with a lot of places to enjoy before you can leave the country.  I have never had a passport and will never need one unless we get to the point that one will be required to get between States here in the USA.

Amy, always happy when I read you at least plan a "day of rest" whether you take it or not.

Roley, thanks for the new link and I hope to soon have time to go back and watch some of the links you have posted recently, probably watching using the laptop from my bed.

Gloria, I am sure that weather forecast is just what you wanted to hear.  I hope the rain leaves you along this evening.  There is no way I ever intend to just give up.  Tomorrow may just be a lot better than today perhaps.  I am already seeing that on some days I have a lot of shortness of breath and will have a lot of that heart related coughing and then the next day feel a bit stronger with less of these conditions to be accepted on that day.  There are also way too many dear around here.  Man has interfered with the natural balance of nature and this is one of the results.  Unlike you I never seem to run out of something to say as evidenced by most of my online postings.

Phyllis, sorry that you are having the summer doldrums.  I actually slept a little longer this morning than I have been doing.  Over the years we have had several homes with separate living rooms, which were seldom used.  Most people are just more comfortable in the places we are most comfortable and Pat and I have our family room/kitchen and dining and sun room all basically a big open area with some columns and the kitchen island to designate certain areas.

Good morning on this beautiful sunny morning.  Thunderstorms are predicted for later this afternoon.  I am hoping that I can get to sit outside even if it is just a short time.

I didn't sleep well last night, so wound up staying in bed a little longer, as I did go back to sleep when it was really time to get up.

I just wrote a long message over in the Soda Shoppe board. I did want to tell you that I have a new great-granddaughter,  born on Friday and named, Camila.  Not sure when I will get to see her, as they live in Connecticut.  I think my traveling days are very limited now, but I am still  hoping that maybe I might be able to go up to see her sometime.

But, I did want to say Good morning to Gloria, Roley, Amy, Lloyd, Jane, Phyllis, and Larry.

Shirley, I hope the this evening will be perfect for the wedding.  I am sure hoping that you will wear the bicycle helmet.  ( not to the wedding, tho) LOL  I know how "stubborn" you can be.  LOL.   But, I am still always in awe as to what all you manage to do.

I just wanted to make an appearance this morning,  and hope I can get back later.

Have a wonderful day.

Am waiting to get dressed to go to the wedding so stopped to check what y'all are doing.  Joy, I am laughing so hard at the idea of wearing the helmet to the wedding... and will tell you I'm as likely to wear it there as EVER to wear it. Yep, am one stubborn old lady. Now, "picture it", the bride being walked down the aisle by her father & there stands Grammy with a bike helmet on!!!  I was reminded earlier today that, "we will be seated down front" (as normal family does).

Since I don't do Facebook I've been getting tidbits of info from my kids about the size of the wedding party. Hear tell maybe 10 bridesmaids & up to 300 invited guests?  I have no idea what to expect & how much has been told me to get a rise out of me.  :2funny:  This is not a "church" wedding but in one of those places the young people of today hold their big occasions (weddings, graduations, what ever"), with dinner following the ceremony. I have a pair of "heels" sitting out to wear but also a pair of dress flats that may win out. It is hot & humid (yes, Gloria, I am whining again~~) Since a dance is planned after, I chose to go with the 2 year old so can come home early.   I really don't like the music of today.

I am not eager to go outside to get there, is a good half hour drive across town, being picked up by daughter, her husband & their 2 year old gr-daughter. This great-grand is the one that loves to talk all the time, big vocabulary & all the right facial expressions to go with the words. Betcha Grandad will be taking her out of the room during the ceremony, they adore each other. Her parents & older 2 siblings left very early this morning for DisneyWorld in FL. So far she hasn't seemed to miss them at all & sure SHE is the one having all the fun. Everyone is being cautioned to NOT mention the "D" word (Disney World), they went to FL.  ;)  Heaven help us if she realizes where they really are. Will report in later (or not).

I love it, Amy, bookmarked to give a serious look! Got to rush now to be ready on time, did the purse change & forgot how long that can take.

Shirley, I am sure you are already at the wedding.  I had to laugh, also, as I noticed how that sounded after I went back and re-read what I had written.  I quickly did a quick  "edit".  We all will be anxious to hear all about it.  Have fun!!!

Amy, I now have 6 great-granddaughters, a great-grandson, and a step-great grand daughter.

I don't get to see any of them that much.  Four of them live in Connecticut, and the other 4 live about an hour from me.  They are all so busy.

We just had a short sound of thunder, and it was getting dark, but now the sun is shining, but it does look like it might be a few sprinkles,  Crazy weather !

I will soon need to decide what dinner will be.

Have a good rest of the evening.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

I must apologize for not posting in a couple of days.  I wrote a post and for some reason was unable to post it and I do not know why.  In trying different things I managed to loose it and even though I did copy it, it did not copy as I thought and there was no way to recover.  I was so frustrated as I had details of what all has transpired.....I just cried❣️

Then yesterday when I wrote up a less detailed version, and there was no way it would let me post it.  I do not understand why, but today I am on the newly opened up page and I am hoping the third time is the charm.

My dad is still in the hospital.....however, it has been quite the roller coaster ride each day.  All the big todo over the brain bleed seems to have been a misread CT scan from the get go.  We could not get anyone to talk to us about it even though Diane sat in dad's room for hours on end waiting to talk to the doctor.  Come to find out the doctor came in very early on the first morning after dad was transferred to the second hospital and gave dad a report, none of which dad even remembered happing or what the doctor had said.  Unfortunately the nurses Diane ask about the day she was there all day kept telling her, "oh the doctor will be in SOMETIME to talk to you"...... My dad is very confused....he is sleeping a lot and at times he seems OK, and then the next he is not.  Yesterday morning Diane got a call from Dad sayin they were releasing him to go home!  Poor Diane nearly died of a heart attack, as she knew there is no wa6 she could possibly take care of him.  So she called to see if she could talk to the doctor, but of course he was no longer there, so she asked for a nurse to call her.  When someone did call, they confirmed he was to be discharged and Diane pleaded her case that she was told he was no way goin* to be sent home as he had to go for some physical therapy before he could every be released to home.  They would call her back.....hours passed so she headed for the hospital.  When she got there she said she HAD to speak to someone to understand how he could possibly be sent home.  In awhile a Internist came in he took one look at dad and said,  "there is no way this man can be discharge to go HOME today, He will be here at least 2 to 3 more days then he will be sent to a skilled nursing facility for at least a couple of weeks, then it will be determined what his needs will be!"

So now we are trying to see if and when we can get down there.

I have been on the telephone with my brother for two plus hours, so I really must just try to post this.

I hope yo7 all are doing well and I will check back later....

Jenn

JENNY, my thoughts and prayers are also with you!  I don't know how you are handling it al!

AMY, I'll take one!  Where's the line?

We had rain off and on all day today and I decided not to go to the picnic.  Just getting from the car to the picnic area would have been bad and I've finally (almost) icked he cold I've been harboring to some degree most f the winter.  I just didn't feel like taking any chances.  So I made up a couple containers of my potato salad and delivered one to my good neighbor across the street and one to my son and family.  I got to see Sarah and she's recovering from the appendectomy but is still pretty sore.  She took the container and put it in the fridge and my son walked in, took it out of the fridge and started eating it.  While Sarah was talking she moved over to the cupboard, took out a dish and got herself some, too.  It won't last long at their house.

I hope there's no snow in Colorado tomorrow.  The kids are flying out to come home.

I'm off to bed pretty soon so I'll bid you all Good Night.  I wish you a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, evey one!

I don't have my wits together to tell y'all about the wedding but can't hold off with my hug for you, Jenn. I can imagine the turmoil and fear of your father being released to go home.... really!!!  I'm sorry, I just think the hospitals are so rattled with pressure from insurance companies & Medicare they don't take time to even consider the patient! Do you have any info about the re-hab places in that area?  I'm guessing this is the time you may have to fly out to take charge, can Bob help with the kids for a week so you could do that?  Afraid it takes a family member that can stand up & scream for attention to get things worked out when in the "hospital control", even if to ask the question, "WHY".

When I arrived at the hospital when Dad had a bad stroke my sister & husband were sitting in the waiting room.... she explained they were going to run a test on his brain and was a 50/50 chance of killing him. I asked "WHY, can they help him by doing the test?"  She didn't say a word but jumped up & ran to the office & ordered them to not run it, they couldn't do any more for him no matter what test results would be! He survived for only a short time (days or weeks), but was taken off life support.

My sister was the one in charge as they got older, my brother that lived in the same town was not one to take charge of anything. My other brother & I lived too far but were there when needed. Dad's muscles & a broken hip had put him into a nursing home, he had one stroke that left him partially paralyzed & had difficulty eating. The "gag" muscles didn't work, but when we went to visit him after the first stroke I took him a serving of his favorite food, some "fried" apples. My sister fed them to him since she understood how & what to watch for so he wouldn't choke, but he was delighted to have them & managed to say "good".... still brings tears to remember that day. So, dear Jenny, I'm telling you all this because is scares me to think of you having regrets, you seem so very close to each other. Life isn't fair, I know.

I need to take care of cats, we didn't stay for the dinner because the 2 year old did not get a nap & was ready to go home to bed. The wedding was very nice, total of 8 bridesmaids.... nobody fell or got sick or passed out. I did wear heels & got away with it. After the ceremony I had to take off my corsage because my nose kept running... roses so near the nose just didn't work!  Turns out the planned honeymoon, already paid for, had to be called off because grad school for the bride started at the same time. Waiting to get into the next session would be a year, if she was accepted again. I will feed cats & go to bed. Fitbit says I got 5 hours & ?minutes sleep last night so I am already breathing like in deep sleep.

Yum, Jane, that potato salad sounds delicious.

G'morning all. A brief 'thank you' to all who thanked and passed messages to me, I did reply to questions asked and I (Thought)it was attached to the last Walk I posted, but to my surprise only the walk appeared !, so sorry to Amy and others, I have no idea where the replies went or even if they exist in cyber space somewhere, so once again, sorry.
I would just like to add, our move is still ongoing, we are gradually emptying our three bed house of the things we no longer need (I hope) and packing the items that we do !, now everything is in the hands of the solicitors.

Lovely sunny day with a bit of a breeze today. Will take hubby to his appointment in town ,stop at the garage as my oil light is back on and make an appointment with the chiropractor. Wood is all done and so is dancing the jitter bug with the tiller ,time to get an alignment for me!

Joy, thankfully those living far away can seen photos or maybe even skype with you to show how your great grands are growing.

Jenny, prayers for you and your family. Hope they can keep your Dad in for more that a couple of days. I know they kick people out here also ,need the beds for others.

Gloria, my Dad had the green thumb, we teased that he could even grow a plastic plant if given a slip from it.

Gosh time goes fast .or am I just getting slower???

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Evryfriend!

AMY, we used to kid that my Dad's green thumb went all he way up to his elbow....maybe even higher.  When my parents lived in an apartment that my inlaws owned, he took out his gardening needs on the yard behind the apartment building.  It was located right next to our store and the building that housed my inlaws apartment.  We knew that they also enjoyed the fruits of my father's labors when my father in law asked my Dad, "What happened to all your flowers?  I haven't seen any for a while."  (It was January).  My Dad just chuckled but the next time my FIL passed the rose arbor, there were roses on it.  My Dad never said much but he sure knew what action to take.

Gotta go take the doggies out.  They're getting antsy!  Enjoy your day!

Just checking in.  Good morning!  All is well here and it will only be a normal Monday for me.

Amy, the Swiss Steak in the Instant Pot was delicious and tasted just like the dinners that I remember my Mom making in her old top of stove pressure cooker.  David liked it, too, so we will be having it again.  Don't know what I'll try next....maybe some applesauce.

Jenny, I'm thinking about you and your Dad.  I'm so sorry that you are going through this anxious time right now.  It's too bad that the hospital doesn't seem to be handling the communications to the family very well.  I hope it, and your Dad, get much better soon.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone, Finally had my 7 hours sleep last night and feel better this morning. This business of waking between 3 and 4 AM is not for me.

PHYLLIS  yesterday I was checking my contact list and deleting names of those no longer with us, like Joan, Hal, Bunnie and June and a few others that did not post here in the SS. Like in the Missouri discussion and PSP. So many gone and do not know if the have gone home to our Father or just got tired of their computers.

LLOYD  woke to sunshine here this morning after a few days of fog.

LARRY  with you talking about Pat ironing I thought of JOAN's book, we are retired, no more irong so she would give us demerits. Well now none of my clothes need ironing.

JOY  congratulations on the new great granddaughter. My traveling days are over, dislike even going to a son's at times even if I do enjoy being there. Just getting into a car is a job.

SHIRLEY  I never thought you were whining. I do get a chuckle with some of the things you say. Wish I was more like you. Hope you enjoyed the wedding. Is what passes for music these days to the young folks sounds more like loud noise to me.

JENNY  can understand why you are so upset. I often wonder if doctors are just too overworked or just do not care about their patients any more. Hugs and prayers for all of you.

JANE  no rain here yesterday, just a beautiful spring day.

I have to get a move on or my CNA will be here before I am dressed for the day.
Have a good day.

Hi Everyone. I can see the sun is shining as I look through the window that is right beside my big computer.  Pat put up curtains in here not too long ago and I had to tie one of the panels with a rubber band so I can see between our house and the neighbor and see a tiny portion of the street.  After all a fellow needs to keep and eye on his neighborhood.  I got up at 4 am again this morning as once again didn't have my bed set just right.  I will eventually get the patterns of up and down with this hospital bed.

I got a lot of things done yesterday and will get quite a few more done today that I can do from my computer at a very slow pace.  My heart seems to have decided to act differently with some pounding in the chest upon exertion rather than angina pain.  I think it ma have to do with the heart valve that the doctor spent a long time listening to on my final appointment with her.  It is taking longer for me to recover my breath and regain a little energy.  At least I am all cleaned up for the day and have had my breakfast and morning pills and am dressed and can now just sit quietly here at my desk and take care  of some things.

Joy, I responded to your posting on the other board so won't repeat myself here this morning.

Amy, I applaud you on taking a nice and easy day.

Shirley, I am beginning to use Facebook to respond to comments made to me based on other postings and my response back to them.  Guess I need to find out how to use it in a better way.  I still will limit by list to people that I know as not interested in being able to say I have a 1,000 likes or people following me.  Good decision to miss the dance after the wedding.  I am with you in not caring for most of today's music.  That little one will get a lot of attention while her parents are away and she is really too young to get much enjoyment out of Disney World.

Jane, a wise decision on your part in skipping the picnic and protecting your health.  Nice of you to share the potato salad and nice to read that your DIL, although sore seems to be doing well.

Shirley, I have a great advocate in my wife who doesn't mind taking control.  She did that with my Dad and has with me as I am not a very assertive person (know that is hard to believe from some of what I write) but it is true. I think many tests and procedures are done when there is no real reason other than to protect the doctor from some lawyer or the hospital pushing the staff to use the expensive medical machines and have many tests done. Again one of my joys right now is knowing I won't be subjected to any more medical tests and just let nature take its course.  I do have a special box in the refrigerator that Hospice provides and they want available if needed.  Otherwise we are to leave it alone and unopened.  To bad it was necessary to call off the honeymoon.  I hope they will still be able to have a nice trip sometime in the future.  They sound like very wise young people.

Roley, nice to see your moving is going well.  Isn't it a joy to discard so much "stuff" we have accumulated.  I am doing some that each day.

Amy, no wonder you need to see the chiropractor.  Pat learned of a massage place that will do the massage while the person is sitting in a chair and will be making an appointment.  She had a series of massages over in Georgia.  If you need any lessons in going slow I am now an expert and my prices are right.

Lloyd, sometimes the anticipation of what we will be doing, like traveling a lot, is a lot of fun.  I hope those late evening storms stay away from your area.

Phyllis, glad to read all is well up your way.  We have had some great meat prepared in the Instant Pot and it sure makes it tender, which I really like.

Gloria, I am still awaiting a seven hours of sleep night.  I usually sleep very well. It is not by choice that I am getting up around 4 am each morning but think that will soon be a thing of the past.  However, I do get more done although it takes me a long time to do anything now.  I sure hope I never get tired of my computers.  They have been a big part of my life since I retired so many years ago. For awhile Pat had no clothes that needed ironing.  However, she likes cotton things and has a number of blouses that need to be ironed.  I try to stay away from anything that requires ironing.

Folks are calling this Juneuary...to the north they had snow!! While I was at the garage the rain turned to hail, thankfully it didn't last long. Managed to get two batches of jam done, tomato plants covered as they are calling for frost tonight . Hubby cut the grass and I did the trimming. Now we are to have more rain tomorrow and Wed unless the weather man changes his mind.

All the talk about the Instant Pot has me thinking.... and then see that Amazon has one on sale right now (got to check to see if a "lightning deal".... here's the hype, so tell me if it is what y'all are using. Would this size cook a pound of pinto beans?  That's basically what I use my pressure cooker for (after boiling the beams for 15 min & throwing away the first water). I do love them cooked with ham shanks, clove of garlic, salt & pepper. Cornbread or biscuits top them off. My mother did not cook beans often but my husband's mother did, & her cornbread was made in a cast iron skillet so the it had a crunchy top when turned out. Yum!  I do make soups in the pressure cooker, cook the meat first & have the broth (less grease) to make stock.

Anyway, am concerned this size will be too small, can't visualize ... I ordered a stock pot one time & have to stand on the step stool to look down inside, well, almost. Here's the description:  Instant Pot DUO Plus 3 Qt 9-in-1 Multi- Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Yogurt Maker, Egg Cooker, Sauté, Steamer, Warmer, and Sterilizer...is a deal of the day for $54.99.  Is that a good price & is it large enough?  Thanks... I'm bending.........

I don't usually post in the Soda Shoppe but wanted you all to know that I got a call from one of Lindancer's relatives today saying that she passed away yesterday and I was on a list of people that she wanted them to call.  Her name was Gloria Hansen and she also went by DeAngel.  I never met her in person but we got to be friends when I was moderating the South Carolina forum on Senior Net.  She had grown up in Charleston, SC, and married her husband who was stationed at the Naval Base there during WWII.  They had retired to Long Island, NY, and he passed away several years ago.  They had lost both of their sons in accidents and I think it was a daughter-in-law that called me.  We had a great friendship and talked on the phone periodically and I will really miss her! I know she posted both here and in Norms's Bait and Tackle Shop and I wanted to be sure that her friends here knew.  I have no idea what her final arrangements were but I asked about memorials and the caller said that she left no instructions about preferred donations.

Gloria had told me she had opted for Hospice Care.  That was about two weeks ago and we talked on the phone last weekend.  She felt very good and upbeat about her decision but I honestly didn't realize the end would come so soon!  She was another really special member of our Senior Net Community and she had shared many of her Charleston memories with me.

Wish I got to post here more often but these days I am a caregiver for my husband who is almost blind and very deaf.  He has very expensive hearing aids but can't remember how to adjust them now so we revisit the audiologist periodically.  He will be 90 on June 17th and I will be 85 in July.

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.

I AM SO very sad to read your post JOHANN regarding our GLORIA de's passing.  Thank you for letting us know😢

My Dad did not have the best day today, as he does not understand why he can not go home!  He was pretty uncooperative to every one that were trying to deal with him today😢.  Diane said they were pretty honest with him that if he does not cooperate with them to help him in these first three days that he will be sent to a nursing home and it will not be good.  Diane is very flustered with him and so sad that he was not cooperating at all today.

JANE, I thought about your Family a LOT today and HOPED they got out of DODGE early in the day, as the weather was pretty rough here this afternoon.  I hope they are back home safe and sound and pleased with their Colorado vacation. 🥰

JUNEUARY....🤣🤣 AMY, that is a pretty descriptive way to explained how crazy the weather has been.

GLORIA, I honestly think that many good and caring doctors are just no longer able to do their jobs due to the restrictions that our insurance companies have put on  them.  I do not understand how there can be SO MANY cases of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.  Just the crazy things that have gone on with my dad is enough to scare one to death!

PHYLLIS, I have never wanted to be the squeaky wheel, but the way I see it now, this might be the only way to get some straight answers from the medical profession. Happy your Swiss Steak turned out the way you hoped and you both enjoyed it.

SHIRLEY, I must agree that insurance companies are running the show and the doctors no longer can treat patients the way they feel they need to.  Very sad.  I hope we do get to hear more about the wedding.  I have though back so many times now thinking about what you said your dad did after his broken hip surgery and then how he ended up......it seems to be a repeat of what my dad has also done.  So sad.

I hope you all had a good day.  Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

My condolences to Gloria de's family.  I enjoyed reading her posts and exchanging various bits of information.  She was a great lady.

Shirley, the price is right because I paid $70 for our Instant Pot, but with the amount of cooking you do, a 3-quart is too small.  Tom is the cook here so there are just the two of us, or three if we have Dot over.  A six quart would be better for you and would be about the size of a large slow cooker.  Tom's son and wife have the six quart for the two of them as I don't think Alicia cooks much for the twins yet.  Tom has cooked a pot roast a few times and they have turned out wonderful - very tasty.

I am so sorry to learn that now Gloria de has left us.  She sounded so upbeat until a few days ago so it was kind of a shock to read about her.  Thanks for letting us know, Johann.

Shirley, I think that size Instant Pot is too small to cook a whole pound of beans.  Beans expand so much when cooked and also, they froth up a lot and could possibly clog the steam valve.  I bought the 6 quart and I'm satisfied that is the right size for us but, I like to "cook once and eat twice" so I always cook enough for leftovers. I have to stretch a little to see down inside the pot but the inner pot is easily removed using oven mitts so I can stir or turn meat more easily, if I want to.  It does everything just the way the top of stove cooker does except this is programmable so you don't have to watch it or set a timer and, of course, it does it faster than a slow cooker or simmering on top of the stove. As Amy said, "you don't have to babysit it". BTW, I bought my 6 qt. from Amazon and it was on sale for $74.  I thought it was a good deal.

I woke up at 3 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep.  Got up at 5.  After I eat breakfast and get the sheets and towels started in the washer I'm going to see if the recliner has any ZZZZZ's in it.

Good morning everyone.

I am so sad to read of Gloria's passing. What a great lady she was, I was thinking of her yesterday while doing the rhubarb jam as she had said she loved it. She was one lady you would want as a neighbour and friend. Thank you Johann for letting everyone know.  I can relate on the hearing aids..the next pair my husband gets are battery free!! Amazing technology of today!

Sun is shining this morning ,temp is 40° F and they are calling for more rain later in the day. Will try and finish up the flower beds  after taking hubby out for his morning coffee.

Shirley, I just cooked 1 1/2 lbs of pinto beans in the IP  on Sat  and they turned out great. Mine is a 6 qt duo and I just love it..I do think the 3 is too small as others have said.

Jenny, hope today is a better day for your Dad and everyone involved. Prayers heading your way.

Phyliss, that is my thoughts also...cook once and eat twice. You did get a good deal on yours. I like the duo as you can make yogurt in it...so easy to do.

Bubble, thank you will pop over to the site when done here..

Enjoy your day everyone.

David took this on the cell phone through the window overlooking the garden.  It turned out pretty well.  She has eaten all of the begonias and wood violets and hostas.  She will probably move on to greener pastures now.

(Bubble, I hope this is sized right.  I've forgotten everything about editing photos!  (sigh and grumble) )

Thanks, everyone, for the advice about the Instant Pot.... I do agree to cook once & eat multi times. Right now my freezer is on overload & I can't find 3 days to defrost & clean up the mess... I have one corner with floor to ceiling storage rack in the basement, that is full of various cooking pots that get used maybe once a year. They are so handy when needed but right now I need to downsize to what I use most. I have the biggest to one of the smallest crock pots & 2 sizes between. Have shelves full of things tried & didn't like but some got side lined because of updates. Guess I will keep watching all your posts of successful dishes, "wishing for" is half the fun in life! I'm not ready to pass down my cast iron Dutch ovens, skillets & even chicken fryer plus all those other pots & pans that fill the cabinets & storage rack, but guessing the Instant pot would be the one of choice when cleaning out.

Such a nice photo of Gloria de.... but I will always picture her with a red hat on!  Such a fun person to have known, always busy and never any whining about the rough times she had, losing her sons and then her husband.

Amy, I enjoyed your link & showed it to my daughter when she visited yesterday. She said they are considering having their "Goldwing" converted to a 3 wheeler but with the 2 behind. They, enjoyed them when living in the Seattle area. My daughter is just a rider, but think her husband is starting to be concerned about the dangers as he ages (be 65 this year), why thinking 3 wheeler. I will be content to ride my e-bike for now, since it is legal to stay on the bike paths & sidewalks. My little Yahama Chappy is fun & street legal but also dangerous being so small. I have had it up to 40 mph on the streets but risky being hard to see & with the many pot holes from last winter... could do a flip & wind up flying through the sky. Let me know if you get one!

Thanks, Bubble for that link for Gloria de....

What is that animal, Phyllis? I first thought a cat but didn't know they ate flowers. Great photo!

Good morning everyone, a pretty cold one of 47° to start. No wonder I was cold when I woke. Of course the heat is turned off now so it is kind of cold inside. Glad my winter robe has not been put away for the summer. Feels good this AM.

LARRY  this HP computer has given me trouble since I fist got it and it still has not stopped.  I hate bothering my grandson to come and work on it, His job is working on computers all day and being on salary he is on call 24/7. He will always come to work on it but in his own time. He will only work on family computers. I feel bad because he will never take any money from me and I always try to give him some.

AMY  hope we don't get any snow this spring but it has happened in June before. Juneuary is a good name for the temperature this morning here. Too cold to feel comfortable in here. Glad I have a heater for my bathroom and I have it plugged in near me now and the heat feels so good.

JOHANN Mc  thank you for the sad news about Linedancer-Gloria de. She will be greatly missed here in the Soda Shoppe.

JENNY  I seldom see my doctor but see the Nurse Practitioner, she always takes time to listen and answer questions. I feel bad about  your Dad.  I know you want to be there with him and be at home to help your son and Michele.

PHYLLIS  I do so ‎little cooking anymore one of those pots would be useless for me. Everything in this building is so high I even have to rest  my arms on the sink to wash a few dishes, cannot sit to do anything at the counters or the stove. Everyone here except 5 tall people are short and everyone complains about everything being too high. My apartment is a handicap one and you would think they would be lower so things can be reached by sitting on a rollator or wheelchair. Love the picture your son took. My daughter takes all hers now with her iPhone and she has a great camera, but now it just sits there.

SHIRLEY  surprised you didn't know that was a deer. I have seen so many around here the last few years I could tell.

Gotto to go, Have a good day.

Good morning. I am waiting for my grocery delivery, so I only have a couple minutes.

I was here earlier and wrote a message and then I guess I just forgot to hit "Post".

I was so sorry to read about the passing of Gloria. Like Phyliss, I was kind of shocked, also. I don't think any of us thought she would pass  so quickly.  I am so glad that her daughter-in-law was still with her.  And, I am sure her neighbors and friends will miss her a lot. She seemed to have such a got relationship with her neighbors, as they were so good to her.  She certainly was a pleasant lady and I always enjoyed her messages.

My grocery order just came and I usually only put the cold things away right away, and then leave the other things till later. The store where it comes from is a little more expensive than Walmart, but I like their produce better.  All the delivery people are always so nice and helpful. They would even put it away for me if I wanted them to. Today it was a young man, who has been here before.  I usually give them a $10 tip, as it is well worth it. I got some steamed shrimp, which I plan to make shrimp salad with.

Gloria, I hope it has been nice enough for you to sit outside.  I have sat outside the last 4 or 5 days, as it was just beautiful.  More people are beginning to sit out.  We try to solve all the world's problems , but we haven't gotten any far. LOL

Jenny, I am so sorry that you and your family are having so much to deal with right now.  You know there is a saying, "God doesn't give you anymore than you can handle", but sometimes that is a little hard to believe.  I pray that things will get better soon.

Phyllis, I have an instant pot and I have not used it yet.  I am kind of intimidated by it.  I see so many comments on FB about people having so many issues with food not turning out or they keep getting the "burn" notice.  I wanted it to make yogurt, but that looks so time consuming and you are supposed to use a certain kind of milk, which I have never heard of.  And, then people put pictures of their hard-boiled eggs and they look terrible.  I guess one of these days, I will just have to "bite the bullet' and try it.

It is now getting onto lunchtime and I do want to go and sit out for a while.  I will play cards tonight.

Hope everyone will haven a pleasant day.

Joy

Hi Everyone. It is now a little after 2:30 and just getting here.  I do not want to see this day end as continues to be a very good one for me.  I did write a very long posting in Norm's Bait and Tackle so not going to repeat it here. https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?action=profile;u=65

Mary Ann, Scott told his mother that he wants to do the ironing for her as he likes doing it and she had taught him when he was young. Pat didn't even remember teaching him. I always liked to iron as I was growing up except on those very hot days in Missouri summer before we go AC.

Shirley, Pat got the large IPot first and then decided she also wanted the 3 quart size.  She is using both.

Jane, this is a time for us to celebrate Gloria deAgnels special gifts to this life.

Phyllis, Ihave been planningto check with Oldiesman about posting pictures in any of our discussions as it makes the site more enjoyable and memory space on a server is now cheap.  It sure looks like you have a beautiful yard and that dear knows you have it for his enjoyment.

Gloria, I understand your grandson not wanting to take any pay for helping you.  Right now it is a gift he can share and if you paid him it removes some of the joy of giving expecting nothing in return.

Okay, pick on the old lady that can't see...... ::) , I must not have had my glasses on & do have a problem because I have to take them off to read but if "arm's length" it is a gamble. Went back & looked & sure nuff, it is a deer!   :buck2:  I don't blame that deer one bit for hanging out in that lush garden, a beautiful spot. By the way, when I went back to look, I did realize that I had looked for the head at the wrong end... what can I say????

I ordered a dog ramp to get that bike up the steps into the side of the RV. Don't want to use the bicycle carrier we put behind the Rialta to haul a bike, would be just as difficult for me to get on & inside it won't get all that "road dirt". By the time I get everything in that RV I may have to run along side because there won't be room for me.

Larry, I'll click your link to see what else you've been up to. Think it is nice of Scott to do the ironing. That is one job I always did when growing up with 3 older brothers, they were always wanting a clean shirt for a date. Mom did the washing one day & ironing the next, in between the boys would want something "quick pressed" & I was willing. I go through the steam & spray irons fairly often, but do use distilled water unless I'm out & grab some out of the Brita pitcher. I do iron all my clothes except for the ones I sleep in.

Gloria, my son didn't want to take money when he was doing so many things for me so I put it in an envelope & bought him something I thought he needed/wanted.  After that I threatened him with "better take the money or I buy you something you don't want".  Since I have 3 kids & he is the one that was always here when I needed him, I thought it only fair he get paid. For MY sake! The others come when I call & ask for help, but he doesn't wait to be asked. So far my grands have always been too busy to offer or for me to ask, so a big thumbs up for yours!  Did I tell you that this HP I bought last year in CO was only $250. & is touch screen. My son was absolutely amazed because it is like one he has but his isn't touch screen (not that I know what to do with touch screen) & he paid nearly a thousand for his. So far it has not given me any problems, but because it is Windows 10, still things I don't know how to do or find. They were on sale... guess it was year before last when I got it, never find a bargain like that again! I thought of you when buying & hoped it wouldn't be a headache!

All of a sudden I am so sleepy I can't keep my eyes open... nap time!

LARRY, I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling well enough to do things today.  Some of the new things in your life must be kicking in!  In my family, I was the ironer!  I liked doing it because it hung there and looked great.  My sister cleaned and as soon as she was done, someone walked on it, sat on it, laid something on it or used it.  The clothes just hung there and looked great until I put them away....with pride.

It's hard to think of some of our good friends being gone.  Even though many of us have never met face to face, you are all so real in my life.  I miss you when you don't post and I rejoice when I see a post from you.  I'm happy to have been able to meet some of you but I still feel that I KNOW you all!

My cleaning dynamo just left and I'm waiting for it to be time for my daughter to be hope from work.  I'm going to stop by for a hug.  JENNY, they all got home safe...my daughter and SIL here, my grandson to Philadelphia and my granddaughter and GSIL to Houston.  They all loved Colorado and it didn't matter that there was snow in some of the places they visited.

Today, I got a thin package in the mail...two 8x10 photos suitable for framing.  One is the one I posted of "The Tulsa Trio" and the other is Emma on her first birthday.  These will hang in the family gallery.  The rest are wallet size (4 different) so I can become SOGGWPIP (Silly Old Great Gramma With Picture In Purse) I'm a happy GG today!

I have to admit that I've also been thinking about the Instant Pot.  If all I did was make yogurt in it, it would probably pay for itself.  So far, I've decided that's not really enough to justify buying it but all the talk about swiss steak is making me hungry....and starting the thought process again.  I've added it to my "long term" shopping list.  That's not to say it can't be erased at some point but I'm a little more than 'iffy" right now.

I hope you are all having a great day!

Planting  was done just in time..down came the rain!!
Phyliss, your yard is beautiful..love the deer!! Such a serene place to enjoy.

Joy, I m with you on the eggs, I too need to bite the bullet and do them. My son does 24 at a time and he peels them!! He would cook eggs in boiling water, peel about 3 then turn the job over to his wife but done in the instant pot they peel easy. As for yogurt, I use 2% milk.8 cups  and 2 tbsp. of yogurt that has live culture in it. Makes delicious yogurt and I strain it through a coffee filter to make Greek yogurt. The whey gets used in soup, smoothies and the dogs get some on their food. It really is easy to do....time consuming but well worth it. Once you have the milk cooled and the 2 tbsp. of yogurt in it you let it set for 6 hours or so.and that is it.

Jane , what lovely gift!!! Pumpkin seed are in but if we don't get warmer weather I will have to make them a quilt to keep warm!!

PHYLLIS, I knew it was a deer right off the bat!  I remembered you telling how they come into the yard and I was looking for it when I saw the photo.

'm off to Dreamland now.  I welcomed the kids back and shared the pictures with them.  Then I stopped at my son's and shared the pictures with them.  Sarah was putting them up all over the house when I left.  Tomorrow, I have to buy frames for the larger pictures.

Good night Everyfriend!  I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good evening EVERYFRIEND🦋🦋

This has been a much better day....my Dad woke up happy and continued to have a good day.  This was the best news❣️  He started some PT, three different times for nearly one hour each.  They said they would work very slowly to see how he did and what he is capable of doing. 🥰🥰

AMY, Happy you got the planting done before the rains came.

JANE, how nice to receive a package with pictures of your loved ones.  Oh and speaking of loved ones, happy to read the Colorado visitors got home safe and enjoyed their time in Colorado

JOY, I often repeat the saying that "God will not give us more than we can handle", and I guess that does help to keep us all going😩😩

I wish you all a good evening...pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone, warmer than yesterday by about 15°. No shivering when I got out of bed.

JOY  we don't  try to solve the world problems when we sit outside. We do get silly at times and laugh a lot.  With the witch that is the manager we need the laughter.

LARRY  glad you had a good day yesterday.  It would be nice to be able to put some photos in here that only the ones who post here would enjoy. We talk about family and would be nice to put photos with the names, or what it looks like where we live. I am used to paying for every thing I get and I know my grandson dislikes working on computers on his time. At times I will make him take some money and tell him to add it to my great grandson's college fund.

SHIRLEY  well that deer had it's head in all that greenery and the rump showed better.  My last HP I had no problems with, was just too full, this one must have been a Monday one.

JANE  I remember my Mom teaching me to iron handkerchiefs, I still hated doing them. I never minded ironing, so nice seeing all the wrinkles disappear. Now I cannot stand to do it and never could sitting.

AMY  hope you do not need to make a quilt for your garden.

JENNY  so glad to read that your Dad was doing better. Eases your worries a bit.

Oh WOW already a wild fire in state of Washington. That is so early in the season for one isn't it?

LLOYD  what would we do without TV in the evening?  Do more reading?

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool and rainy
rocky coast of Maine.

Now June is looking to be much
like May...  wonder if we will ever
have a Summer for me to complain
about!   :knuppel2:

Jenny, glad to see that
your  Dad doing better.  I sure
hope that it keeps up..

Larry,  also glad to see that
you are getting things organized
the way that you want.  I am sure
that is much appreciated by Dot and
Scott (your son's name is Scott??)..

Because they know when you
are feeling happily in control
of your well being,  then everyone
is a winner.   :smitten:

I feel those same needs.   So much that
I keep buying things that I might
need in the future... to make mine and
everyone else's life easier.

Wishing everyone a very good day.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for a while....twice.  The dogs are still on regular time and they are afoot around 5:30 every morning.  We go out, they have their pill and then I doze until their hour is up and they can have breakfast.

Now, I've completed all my obligations and I can enjoy the computer.

JENNY, I was so happy to hear that your Dad is doing better.  I hope this continues so it will be one worry you can put in the back of your mind.

SANDY, like you, I'm wondering if the rain will ever stop.  I'm grateful for it right now because it makes it unnecessary for me to water the new plantings.  However, it would be nice if it would always be while I'm in bed.  I don't ask for much, do I?

LLOYD, are you EVER going to travel in that RV or are you just going to keep "fixing it up"?

It's about time for me to begin getting ready for work so I'll with you all a good day full of the love of friends and family!

Good morning.

Just stopping by to say "Hi ".

Ginny, I am so glad to  read that your dad had such a good day and was in a better frame of mind.  I know that made you feel somewhat better.  Hope he continues to improve.

And, Larry, so glad that you had a good day.  Hopefully,  you will keep having more and more good days.  I think the way you are getting things organized the way you want, has been the reason for you feeling better.  You have some peace of mind now.  And, that always make you feel better.

Good morning to all the friends and I hope you all have a good day.

It is a cloudy and grumpy day in my part of North Carolina.  We had a few days of beautiful weather but now the weather is changing again.  Talk of severe weather this afternoon and it is getting darker now so I guess the weather people are right.  Well, I can't change the weather so will just accept it.

Amy, I cooked eggs for egg salad in the IP yesterday.  They came out perfect and were so easy to peel I couldn't believe it.  I'm pleased so far with my purchase.  And, for the rest of you, I will not give a daily report on my use of the IP....which I am sure you are happy to hear.    ;D

I rolled out the rollator this morning because I felt a little "wobbly".  Oncoming stormy weather will make me feel that way so I am not surprised.  I'm just grateful that I have it to help me get around more securely.  Gives me confidence to keep up and moving.

Ironing.....I never liked it. I'm glad to avoid it now.

Jenny, I'm happy to hear that your Dad is doing better.

Thanks for the nice comments about the deer in my backyard picture.  I promise to not post a lot of pictures here.  Bubble was kind enough to allow it and I know they are supposed to be in the Photos discussion but couldn't resist just this one time.

Take care and MAKE it a good day, Everyone.

Hi Everyone.  We have another overcast morning and expecting a high around 90 degrees this afternoon with a lower than 50% of some popup showers. I got up a little after 4 am this morning but had gotten about 5 hours of good sleep.  So far my sleep has been limited to about 2 hours at a time and then a quick trip to the bathroom is required.

As I read all the posting in the three discussions I follow I noted that things seemed to have really improved from what we were talking about yesterday and sure glad to see it.  While probably not as peppy today as I was yesterday I still am getting around using the rollator.  I have had breakfast, downloaded an operating system update for my iPad and iPhone, am all dressed and done a few other chores.  I see the rest of the day as a very restful one.

I started to listen to an audio book last evening that I had downloaded but realized I was too tired so shut it off and will restart listening later today or this evening.  Yesterday was a very productive day and a great day for me as I only used the wheelchair to get up to my big computer and used the Rollator the rest of the day.  I felt much strongly and it felt very good to walk, which I did quite a bit of.  I did a number of telephone calls including one to the SimpliSafe Home Security System folks as their great sale and special offers were expiring at midnight.  I got it all ordered and this time no hold was placed on the transaction as a security measure.  The good news is that I will end up paying less than I had thought when I first talked to them.  The have a panic feature that you can push a button to call for help and so I won't need to get a separate Life Alert to wear.  I actually am buying the equipment for the system and then the monthly monitoring charge is only $25/month.  This will be a project for my BIL when he visits in a few weeks.  So that was two things taken care of at once.  I got some changes started on some other accounts via online but will need to do a little more on that.

Scott texted me last night saying he would like to come out and have lunch with Pat and I and then expect he will go home and rest until evening when he and the girls will be here.

Shirley, I have reverted back to a bifocal that is clear at the top and the setting I need for close work, which is basically what you get with the cheaters you buy at Walmart or other places that are half size.  I was always putting them on and taking them off.  I bought a second pair just like what I am now wearing and got them for $13 + a little shipping costs.  This eliminates trying to keep up with the little half glasses.  I used a website called Readers.com and told them I just wanted a duplicate of what I had ordered before.  I think Scott thoroughly stunned his mother in saying he wants to do the ironing.  My mother would wash usually on Monday's, dry the clothes on the outside clothes lines and then gather all of the things into a basket to be ironed later in the weak.  I remember the old sprinkler hear in a coke bottle to dampen some items.  Pat has a couple of irons and she insists on using only distilled water in them.  I see your logic in giving money to your son who is so helpful.  You are giving it as a gift with no strings attached. Computers are pretty inexpensive and the last couple laptops I have purchased a touch screen.  I don't use that feature very often but it can be handy.

Jane, things are coming along very nicely and yesterday I realize I now have my own man cave but without a door, except for the bathroom.

I just spoke with my son and he will not be coming out until evening.  I am sure glad you finally are having some help with your cleaning as it gives you more time with your furry friends and hopefully get more rest.  You sure work hard.  I saw on the news last evening that Walmart has announced some great new perks for young people including a free education at 6 different schools.  I bet the way you like to cook you would soon love the Instant Pot.  I know Pat sure likes hers.

Amy, the yogurt feature on the IP is a control that will never be used in this house as neither Pat nor I like yogurt, unless it is in the form of frozen dessert and the taste is basically covered up.

mycheal, I tried putting out corn for dear many years ago but decided it wasn't a good thing and not sure why not unless the squirrels stole it and the squirrels were a real problem around that home.

Jenny, I saw your good news regarding your dad and left some comments in the B&T discussion.

Lloyd, hope the new dish for the TV is just what you want for the RV.

Gloria, what better medicine than to laugh a lot.  We had so much fun at our morning coffee groups and lunch groups that we didn't have time to solve the world's problems.  Your giving your grandson money when he helps you is like Shirley just a gift that gives you pleasure rather than paying for his services.

Sandy, yes my son's name is Scott as have always liked that name.  Glad you buy the things that you want.

Phyllis, glad the eggs came out well in the IP.  I don't think Pat has tried that yet although I have suggested it to her.  Hope your weather isn't too stormy.

Larry, you mentioned the old sprinkler bottles - Coke with a sprinkler head.  My mother's bottle was an old ketchup bottle with the sprinkler head.  I'll bet if I had time to hunt, I could find that bottle.  It is either in the furnace/laundry room with the old ironing board or it is in the garage on a shelf that holds a lot of old stuff.

My glasses are near sighted lens in the right and far sighted in the left.  Since my optometrist told me she can do no more for me because of glaucoma, I sometimes wonder about buying two pair of reading glasses at Meijer and changing one of the lenses to see if I could see better on the computer or to read or see the TV.  I also think I'll forget it!

Tom just left for lunch with a friend.  I am not sure he brought up my clean, folded clothes or not.  When I have a bunch of dirty clothes, and it's usually underwear, I put the basket where he will see it to take downstairs to do the laundry.  The basket may sit there several days before it makes its way to the laundry room.  Then I wait at least a week before the laundry is brought up stairs to be put away.  I hear the washer going often, but it is not my laundry that is being done!  It is his!  Now that he knows I want it, I'll get it today or tomorrow.

I think my mother's was a Coke bottle, greenish color... with a piece of rag tied around the aluminum sprinkler neck so it wouldn't leak. Mom would sprinkle the clothes, roll them up tight & put in a bushel basket until she ironed next day, that way they were damp all over. The basket was lined & she put a cover over for the night. I don't remember a morning that she wasn't up first, had a hot breakfast on the table, Dad's lunch box ready with the thermos lid off to let the coffee cool a little before she put it on. Dad never left the house without Mom standing at the open door to kiss him good-by. The rest of us were up & dressed for the day, school or summer time, breakfast over & the day started. Dad worked in the Signal Department of the Missouri Pacific Shops. He was my hero & wasn't anything he couldn't do or fix. What Dad couldn't/didn't do (sewing, etc), Mom could & did. Those were hard days & years and I wouldn't want to change or forget a minute of it. WWII ended when I was 10 years old, but we never forgot.

I'm not sure my eyes are the real problem or I'm not getting the right prescription for glasses. My central vision is where I need the strongest for distance, but I have to take glasses off to read, even a little of that adjustment is wrong for reading, but can read the tiniest print without. Bifocals didn't work because they are for less than arm's length & that doesn't work for seeing the dash of the car. I'm thinking I need to find a different eye doctor. Can't solve the problem tonight so think I'll go to bed!  Sweet dreams to all.

Back to eyes, Gloria, Mary Ann, who else has a hard time reading???  I used the Arial Black on that first part & just Arial on this... NO BOLD. Which works best for y'all?

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.  Another day that passed much too quickly.  I did manage to get in and get my hair cut and that sure gave me a lift!

Dad woke up in a good mood again today.  Seemed happy with how his PT went and his meals.  Then the doctor, a nurse and a social worker came in to talk to he and Diane about his progress around 4 PM.  Seems they do this every Wednesday so the patients and family can be updated.  The staff all get together and each one reports on their particular area.  They told Dad and Diane they expected Dad to be able to go home NEXT Wednesday if he continues to progress on the plan they have for him.  Well, he did not want to hear this, as he wanted to go home today and he proceeds to tell them he doesn't need this care and he can go home and do everything just fine..... The doctor of course tried to reason with him and told him he does need this week of rehab and then he should be strong enough. Oh my.....poor Diane.  She tells them that he is a wonderful person normally and does not know why he is acting this way. She told dad this was going to work out so well as Bob and I will arrive on Tuesday and be there to help get him home and settled in.  I am sad that he just can not understand that these folks are trying to help him to get stronger so he can go home😢😩

PHYLLIS, I believe I neglected to comment on your nice photo of the deer in your garden. I always enjoy seeing any pictures of wildlife.  We see so many here in our area and it is always a treat.  Sadly, many times we see them on the side of the roads and that makes me so sad as we have taken away the safety they deserve in their lives.

LLOYD, I hope Nancy will be ready soon to take off in the motor home on a new adventure.

I wish you all a good night of rest.

Jenny

Jenny, is spite of his being contrary, wanting to go home, that is a good sign to me that he thinks he is strong enough to take care of himself and willing to fight for his rights and not just give up. Not knowing if he would understand that "if he cares for Diane, he needs to consider that if he fell (because he needs to strengthen his muscles), that she could have a stroke or heart attack trying to help him up..... and he wouldn't want that for her". I do think we all can get distraught enough and maybe even medication inhibits thinking that the only focus is on getting home. I am so glad that you will be there to help get him home, kind of a special happening that the best plane fare was best time for helping him. This also gives time for "the kids" helper to get into sort of a routine before you are gone.

I'll have to tell you a little story my mother would tell me when things didn't go right. Probably you've heard it before. About the little boy waiting for Christmas morning, praying to God to help him wake up early, help him get down the steps fast so see what Santa brought. He woke early, raced to the steps and stumbled as he was rushing down. He turned around and spoke to God, "I prayed you would make me faster but you don't have to PUSH!"  Hope you can reason with your dad so he will be more patient... Sorry to say, my father did great when he had all the people around to help him, but not so good without their pushing. My Dad was so proud when the nurses & doctors bragged about how well he was doing, especially for his age. I kid you not, he strutted down that hall to show off!  Prayers for you, Bob, your father, Diane... and the people trying to help.

Cats got me up with these pop up storms, they want out & about the time I doze off, wanted back in. I opened the slider for fresh air & Tom can reach all the way up to the handles but his toenails catch on the screen & I finally got up to come in this other end of the house to let them in and close them off from my bedroom. They all 3 came in & turned right around and wanted back out. Radar showing lots of red, yellow & green scattered all over the state, moving all directions. I'm going to try for another couple hours sleep instead of having breakfast first. Bacon & eggs does sound good, though.

Good morning everyone

Lovely sunny morning here. I did get my vehicle fixed yesterday and I hope that is it for a while!

Not sure yet what today will be,  hubby spoke of taking a drive and that is fine with me.

My Mom also had a pop bottle with the sprinkler and like your Mom Shirley clothes we sprinkled, rolled tight and put away to the next day. Ironing is a job that I enjoy, be it clothing or quilting blocks.

Jenny, your dad is improving and that is good to hear.I hope he stays until he is better and then can maneuver better at home.

Larry, you sure make your heart sing when we see your long posts...happy with just a hi also but know you are feeling better with the long post.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Cloudy morning here with the prediction of several days of rain for this next week.  At least, it is supposed to be cool for awhile and that is fine with me.

Grocery shopping today and that is all I have planned.  I have to make a list and I don't have any ideas of what to buy except I will bring home some Granny Smith apples.  I have an urge to make apple sauce.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone, had rain overnight, only know because everything is wet out there when I pulled up the shades. There was thunderstorms in the forecast but if we had that I didn't hear any. Once I get to sleep I seldom wake with any noise. Thik I will start staying inside. There are some tiny fling bugs around that can hardly be seen and they bite but in my head, think the like the scent of my shampoo? Itchy itchy and I scratch. I know I should not scratch because I make the bites bleed and then have scabs and when I comb my hair I keep hitting them. Grrr.

JANE  think we would most all of us like the rain to fall when we are sleeping and then have a sunny not too hot days. I for one sure would like that.

LARRY  better to have a good laugh than be serious and gloomy all the time. Just listening to the news can make us wonder when the peace in the world will ever happen. My daughter's younger son is named Scott.

LLOYD  have you seen those glasses that cut the glare of headlights and the blinding sun. You can even put them over the glasses you wear. If I was still driving I sure would have some.

SHIRLEY  I never liked bold print, still don't. I use Verdana regular. To me the regular is sharper and bold seems to blur. Everyone can use what they like best as far as I am concerned.

JENNY  glad you can go see your Dad and that  will make you feel better. I really think everyone in a hospital or rehab just wants to go home to familiar surroundings.

PHYLLIS  with the different kinds of apples I used to get from my sons orchard I used them for applesauce, always tasted better than only one kind of apple. Every time I made it tasted a little different with what I used.

Have a good day.

Shirley, the size font you use has a lot to do with what I can read.  Both of your examples were very readable as is Gloria's.  I do appreciate the BOLD but as long as the type size is large, it is OK for me.  I have a hard time reading Lloyd's posts and often do not read them.

I got up late and have read the only two folders I read regularly and I'll be back later.  We're taking Dot to lunch for her Monday (6/3) birthday.

Hi Everyone.  It is another cloudy day today and we actually had some rain last evening and brief showers during the night.  Finally some cooler weather.  Scott and the girls were out yesterday afternoon and ate dinner with us and basically finished up the few remaining tasks that can be done.  I am still awaiting the grab bars and have to order the floor covering I want since Lowe's only carries the smaller width.

I didn't sleep very well last night and spent several hour in further organization of my desk and tray table.  I probably got 4 hours of sleep but got up early feeling better than yesterday and I have been walking and standing a lot this morning.  Scott had to take his car to the garage for some repair and when he gets through he will be out.  I hope to have him take me to the Credit Union so I can cash the first of the savings bonds.  I am going to access my safe deposit box and everything in a tote bag to bring home and inventory and then we will go back at the first of the week.  We will also stop at Wendy's to take advantage of the fifty cent Frostie and may bring some home to put in the freezer.  That will be plenty for today.

We did give Elizabeth the new Chromebook last evening and she was surprised and from what she told Pat no one had ever done something like that for her before.  It gave Pat and I great pleasure to give her the gift to help her with her college work that she is doing online and I know that I won't be around to see her graduate.  She needs the tools now not when she graduates.

Mary Ann, as I think about it my mother may have used an old ketchup bottle.

Lloyd, now you know you are probably not going to go off and eave Nancy there.  :)

Shirley, back in our childhoods families did most things together.  I was allowed to be a child when I was young and not stressed out with too many activities.  Of course I lived on a farm and as I knew older I had many responsibilities and learned to have a work ethic. I always prefer the bold print even though I have great eyesight.

Amy, Scott had to take his car into the garage this morning and they will be doing a lot of routine maintence and putting on a couple of new tires. I am sure glad this is another billing period on my credit card.  I put a high priority on posting to my cyber friends and now the way I am set up I can write from my desktop computer, which I usually do in the mornings and then have a nice laptop on the bedside table I can use while laying in bed in the afternoons or evenings.  Am I one lucky man or not.

Phyllis, my wife prefers the Gala apples.  I have always preferred the red delicious but haven't gotten started back to eating some apple slices as I have been for many years.

Gloria, I do not believe there will ever be peace on this earth until Christ returns with the New Jerusalem.  I have always liked Scott as a name.  I agree that it is the bigger size of the print that is most helpful.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

We have been watching all the coverage on D-Day.....hard to believe it has been 75 years ago.  My Dad always had sad stories to tell about the day.

Today our youngest Grandson Jonah is 6 months old.  He is getting very close to crawling.  He can roll across the room in no time and thinks he is pretty funny doing so.  He is a happy little guy and we sure do love all the pictures and Face Time that we get to do with him.  Mark gave his 2 weeks notice at the golf club where he is the head pro.  It was hard to do and many are very sad to see him go, but the club is for sale and he had to make sure he had a job so had to move on.  They plan to be relocated in Rancho Cordova CA by the first of July. We hope we can help them in some way with the move, but he understands that we already have a lot on our plate😩🤣

Dad had a good day, and seemed to be accepting today of what is expected of him.  Diane did not realize she had been given a detailed report of how the different medical personnel rated my Dad for their decision yesterday.  He did not do well in ANY of the areas, so his work is cut out for him this week.  Thank you ALL for your continued comforting works and prayer for my Dad.

SHIRLEY, I shared your thoughts for Dad with Diane and asked her if she might mention to him your thought.
Michele continues to be just totally wiped out this week, like she always is the week of chemo😢

MARY ANN, I am glad you got to enjoy a nice lunch together today celebrating Dot's Birthday.

LARRY, how nice you and Pat gave Elizabeth the Chrome Book.  It sounded like she really appreciated it and knows it will help her with her school work.

I hope everything is OK with Jane today, as I do not see a post from her.  Maybe she will still come in to say goodnight.

I hope you all had a good day.....sweet dreams to all.

Jenny

Good morning everyone, 44  years ago today it was a beautiful warm sunny day, that was when my daughter got married. Hard to remember that day so well when I cannot remember my sons wedding days so vivid. Think it was because I was losing her to her husband and moving 3000 miles away?

MARY ANN we all see things different, bold in anything but black is blurry to me and even the black is not sharp for me. Crazy I know.

LARRY  I emailed Lloyd the code you sent me to use for posting and explained it to him but he never used it. Like most everyone else I have trouble reading his posts but I do read them.  Glad you have everything set up in your room so that it is convenient for you.

LLOYD  easy surgery for cataract removal and you will not be able to drive for a couple of days.

JENNY  my heart goes out to Michele and what she is going through. I pray all that chemo gets rid of the monster C this time.

Have a good day.

Good morning.  The sun doesn't look like it wants to make an appearance right now. I think they are calling for showers later.  But, tomorrow is supposed to be a nice day, with more rain the first part of the week.

I didn't get  here yesterday,  I waited almost all day for the maintenance man to come back to finish fixing my A/C.  He finally came about 4 and it didn't take him very long.  He wanted to let it run for a while, and I was really getting cold, so I turned it up far enough for it to go off.  When I came back from playing cards, it was very comfortable.

Jenny, I am sorry that Michele is having a bad week.  Hopefully, that will pass when she is done with the chemo for this week.  How much longer does she have to have it?  Glad that you dad is somewhat better.  I am sure you are anxious to go see him and find out what is really going on.  Have a safe trip.

Nothing special going on for me this week end.  Hoping maybe someone will surprise me and maybe I can get out for a little while. Weekends are very quiet here where I live.  I still have not gotten to sit out most of this week, as it seemed something always turned up to detain me.  Maybe later this afternoon.

Larry, always nice to see your lengthy messages again.  I am sure that the new laptop will be very helpful for Elizabeth with her school work.  That was nice of you to give it to her.

I hope all the friends here will have a good day, and an enjoyable weekend.

Hi Everyone.   We are to have some showers over the next few hours and cooler temperatures.  Scott will be here later this morning to take me to our bank to take care of some business.  I had a rather strange night as was tired when I retired around 8:30 last evening and got some needed sleep in short increments.  Then about 1 am I realized I wasn't likely to get anymore sleep so I got up and good got cleaned up and dressed for the day.  I worked away at sorting out old records and getting correspondence ready and then filed away.  I got a lot done and finally around 5 am realized I was pretty tired again so laid back down and slept for another couple of hours.

I don't like to write anything too personal that others might be offended by but just can't help myself this morning.  Hospice brought in a potty chair to use in my bathroom and that is the most uncomfortable piece of equipment I think I have ever encountered.  It must have been designed by the devil to make a persons life more miserable.  I am going to ask the nurse today about getting a larger commode as don't see how anyone of much size could even fit into the one I have.  I know this isn't one of life's more serious problems but it does take on importance at these times of our lives.

I have nothing else planned for today and Scott will be working again tonight.  He has finally, at long last, decided he must have the carpal tunnel surgery.  His hand and arm has been dumb and tingling for a long time.  He tried to open a can of something last evening at dinner time and created extreme pain for himself.  He did get his car back from the shop around 4 pm and he said he didn't realize how bad it needed attention and now drove like a new car.

One last little telling on myself.  When I had been busy buying what I needed to set up this "man cave" I had picked out an office chair to use here at my big computer as the arms of the wheelchair or the rollator get in the way of typing.  I thought the chair should be here by now but yesterday when I looked at the Office Depot site where I had bought the chair I decided that I had it waiting in the shopping cart so had never placed the order.  That has now been corrected and the chair should be here soon.

We have been to the Credit Union, the medicine I need for the next two weeks has been delivered and  the nurse that she will be here shortly.

Gloria, that was a big change in your family when your daughter got married and then moved away from you.  It is obvious that you have a great relationship and that is a blessing.

Joy, glad you got your AC fixed so you can enjoy coolness in the hot days ahead.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND 💐💐

Thinking about GLORIA de, as this is the time of her fur real.  I wish I had a way to pop in there and tell her family how important she was to all of us.  Just think of all the neighbors that will miss her too?

LARRY, happy to read that your and Scott's outing to the credit union went well.  Even if you did have to swing by home to retrieve the bad😻😻  I am so happy for you that you about have your "man cave" set up so perfectly for your needs now.  Sweet.  I, too, had to laugh at your description of the commode that Hospice delivered for your use.....it sounds like you definitely could us a different on to meet yours, and most everyone else's needs!

GLORIA, HAPPY 44th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY to Regina and her husband!  We ALL hope the awful chemo will get rid of that NASTY "C" 🥰🥰 I often think how blessed we are that we can be in touch with our children and or parents by telephone or face time.....Sure helps to feel connected and not so far away from each other 😻

JOY, Michele is half way through her chemo treatments.

Oh, AMY, AMY, what every you do, do not let any grass grow under your feet🙀🙀 I know well that Jesse will for sure see to that!

The day went poooof!! Just came back from looking after the neighbours cat and dog. Callie is such a sweetheart, purrs so nice. Rex is on a few meds  and will soon be done them. He is the dog that comes to the "cookie" tree and looks for dog cookies hubby throws over for him. We tease our neighbours that they are looking after our dog.
I will go once more later tonight to let him out and give him his last days meds.

Talked with Janie and she is just taking a bit of a break....Here I was having visions of Jane and Shirley riding a Slingshot...you never know with those two ladies just what they will be up too  ;D

Jenny, Jessie is taking to grabbing a piece of clothing out the laundry basket and running about the house!! Only saving grace no one else has seen him do this...yet!! :-[

Larry, we also got a commode for our friend and it was ok, even had arms on the side for him, not that he could use them to get up. We also got the tray on wheels, now sure of the proper  name but a real blessing to have. One morning after I gave him his orange juice, I came back into the room to find he had started to raise the bed.....both ends !!! Sending the table up on a slat and the orange juice just about ready to slide off the end, I caught it just in time!! We had a good laugh over that. He was such a joy to look after, so easy to please , had his porridge summer and winter. Just wish we had more time..

Phylis ,tomorrow I am going to DO the boiled eggs..thank you for the push :)

Better go see what the pup is up to, he is too quiet...

Hi everyone.  It is now 5 am and still very dark outside.  We did have a much cooler day here yesterday and some rain on and off with some heavy rains nearby.  By midday we have a good chance of getting more rain.

It was a very strange day and night last night.  The nurse was here around noon and after seeing my feet and legs got hold of the doctor and they put me on 60 mg of Lasik and boy did it work.  I am to keep my feet up about the height of my head.  Throughout the rest of the afternoon, evening and until 3 am when I got up to do my email and message boards I made many trips to the bathroom, about 30 minutes apart.  I also could go back to sleep, even if for such a brief time.  I did feel rested when I got an now here at my desk I apparently fell asleep sitting in my wheelchair.  I don't remember ever going to sleep at my desk nor being able to do so in my easy chair.  I guess things are now well under control or they are completed that I can truly relax, which I plan on doing all weekend. I know of nothing else on the agenda for the weekend and that is just the way I want it, although sure wouldn't turn away a friend from the door.  Pat needs a couple of days of rest as well.

Amy, thanks for letting us know that Jane is taking a bit of a break.  That dear lady works so hard and md she sure reserves a break. The commode I have does have the arms on the side and they are needed as one needs a place for a sure hand grip.  I am so looking forward to getting the grab bars delivered for more safety from falling in the bathroom and in the tub. We might as well laugh about doing some silly things as getting upset by them accomplishes nothing and a little accidents do happen.

Good morning everyone, going to be a beautiful day here according to local weather guesser. Low humidity  and not too hot. Hope she is right. My son was here yesterday instead of today. He called and asked if I needed anything. He has to work today so came after work yesterday. Will seem odd without him here today.

LARRY  glad Scott will have the carpal tunnel surgery, I had it done 3 times, twice on my right wrist. The doctor that did it the first time should have been retired. When I told my doctor I found a different one to do my left one his remark was- hope is is good. I asked if he ever read the RI magazine, he sad yes. So I told him to make sure he got the current one because the doctor on the front page was chosen as the top of the best 50 doctors in the state. He just shut his mouth. I had to have the right one done a second time and that old dr. said it cannot be done a second time. That is when I started asking family and friends and picked the one that was mentioned the most.

JENNY  When my daughter and SIL drove down the driveway on their way to San Diego it felt like that was the last time I would ever see her. How little I knew I would go out there every year on my vacation and they came here several times.

Think I will go lay on the couch and maybe fall asleep. Really do not feel up to doing anything this morning.
Have a good day.

good morning everyone. it is currently 66º and sunny calling for in the Low 80's today. yesterday got in the low 90's, sure hope it dose not do a repeat today. my recliner conked off and died. that was one of two in the sectional, so that part is going out to trash. we stopped by the large furniture store and bought me a new recliner that is electric controlled, lays back and will elevate you to a standing possession. that should be a good deal. Hope you all have a great day just as you like.

Glad to hear that Jane is just taking a break.  I was worried about her.

Amy, when your local fresh corn on the cob comes in, if it hasn't already, try that in the Pot.  2 minutes cooking time and it was perfect.  Best part is I didn't have a big pot of boiling water on the stove putting even more moisture into an already muggy kitchen and I didn't have to struggle with carrying that heavy pot to the sink to empty it.

Cloudy, misty, wet and yucky this morning and it is supposed to be like this into next week.  The good news is the grass is thick and so green!

Larry, I had trouble with feet and ankles swelling last night, too.  Very uncomfortable.  Not ready to take a diuretic quite yet but maybe will pick up some cucumbers at the store today.  They are a natural diuretic for me.  I am not offended at your relaying personal information because these little tips for daily functioning that you are learning can help all of us who are, or will be, facing the same difficulties.  It is all part of this mysterious thing called "Life"!

Hi, Gloria!  I hope the rest of the day will be better for you.

Jane, there you are!  Don't blame you for taking a short break but now you understand how much you are missed when you don't follow your regular routine.  Glad you are OK.

And, for all of the SodaShoppe friends, I wish you a very good day.

Good morning,  A pretty sunny morning, but very chilly.  I almost feel like turning the heat on.  Last night I had to put the A/c  on for a little while.  Such crazy weather.

Gloria, I had a day like that yesterday.  I did absolutely nothing.  And, I was so tired last night. I hope today will be a more productive day.

Larry, I can understand about taking the Lasix.  I only take 20 mg. I take it in the morning, and I have frequent trips to the bathroom, all morning.  It does ease off in the afternoon. Some days it helps and other days, not as much. When I was in the hospital last fall, they started me on it. And, they gave it to me at night.  Needless to say, I was up all night. Even the doctor apologized for not  starting it in the morning.  On days that I have to go out, I do not take it.

I am also missing Jane.  I know she mentioned something about taking a little break. She is missed.

Good morning to you, also, Amy.  Sounds like you had a busy day yesterday, as usual.  I still have not used my IP.

I hope all the friends will have a great day.

Joy

Checking in, one of those nights when I had a mixed up meal of snacks but not a filling "supper" so knew I was in trouble for sleeping. Up about 3:00 & had breakfast of oatmeal, 1 hard boiled egg, slice of white & one of oatnut toast & cup of coffee. Then I went back to sleep another couple hours. Tiger was at the door so came in to eat with me but Tom & Callie waited until my next breakfast.

Larry, I'm still giggling at them bringing you a child's potty chair...(slight exaggeration) sorry about that, but "life happens". Now you & we know how our little ones feel about being put on chairs that don't fit good, right?  Have you tried the Ecco sandals (best price is Zappo's).... good support, adjustable everywhere (back heel, over toe & arch), cushy under the feet & all I wear except tennis shoes which are too hot in summer. I have fat feet & short toes, move fast & have a little fatty tumor on the bottom of one foot so can't wear hard insoles. I buy the Yucatan (for women) they make them for men, fairly expensive but think worth the price to have feet not hurt. I've pulled the same stunt about thinking I had ordered, "where is it?" but discovered still on the order page.  :-\

Gloria, when I got married & left for England my mother admitted years later that was the hardest day. She said she knew she would have to have her sons leave to go overseas for military duty, but NOT her daughter. Back then we didn't use phones or have any means of contact except letters, so didn't hear her voice for 3 years. It was agreed when my brothers were in the service that "bad news" would never be sent until the call when on the way home. When my brother & his wife met us in NY after we got off the troop ship, it took hours of waving from the ship, with them on the dock before we could talk. The whole time I had tears streaming down my face as I held my 13 month old girl, wondering if I would get bad news about somebody missing at home. Husbands & wives were separated at that time but a wife standing next to me offered a word of sympathy so I explained my tears & that they were both happy and fearful. By the time my daughter was transferred to the NW, we had cell phones & computers to keep contact, but no Facebook or such then. My sincere sympathy for the miles between you & Regina yet, but at least you have Skype. Hugs.....

I'll join the rest of you talking about feet swelling... but mine is from humidity & will go away if I can cool my feet down. I have the hottest feet & hands, people flinch when I shake their hand... & feet will leave a puddle if I'm barefoot. Doctor says, "good circulation"... so do nothing but have to wash them a lot.  ::)   20 Mule Team borax works great for inside shoes, have one son that got my feet & kept a salt shaker of borax handy to sprinkle in his shoes to help odor as he was growing up. Now he buys odor-eaters.

It is nearly noon & I am not dressed!  My oldest son & family headed to Branson this morning, for a week, taking their 2 little grands. The parents are coming later in the week so will be a special time for all. My daughter goes back home on Monday & the youngest son has to also go out of town for the week. Should be a quiet time but have lots to do to organize the RV. Like Lloyd, fixing it up is playing house & fun to have new toys to play with. I got some new grilling things since the boys love to grill over the wood fire, one son bought a new type projector to watch videos at night (in "their" camper, using a battery that charges all day with solar), they try to "one-up" each other with the latest gadgets. Thoroughly enjoy the time together. Almost lunch time so better get a move on, have laundry to do & a whole list of other things... and here I sit! May even work a nap in since I still don't have my 6 hours of sleep.

Amy & Jane, my daughter & I tried to get my new e-bike up the ramp into the RV but since I want to be able to do it by myself, and can't.... I'm not going to try to take it. I'd really enjoy it at campgrounds in MO but only if not too much trouble. It is heavier & kind of awkward to get the wide handlebars through that side door & make the turn onto the floor. Not worth the trouble!  That's okay, I will certainly enjoy it around here, have bike paths to the zoo & joining park, all over town. And it is legal to ride those paths as well as sidewalks. Much safer than my little Yamaha Chappy, street legal & very short to be around cars! Anyway, at peace with knowing I can't take & not waiting until the last minute to find out.

I'm stalling......work, work!  Joan was always giving me demerits.  ::)

Jenn, hope your father has a good day & your plans for visiting go smoothly. How can life be any busier???  Shirley

Good morning everyone..

Another lovely day in the making here..first day that no morning fire has been put on.

A day of rest here.I would like to sew but we shall see.

Phyliss, I did do the eggs in the IP, Didn't do them long enough the first time so put them back in for another go. Perfect!! This is much easier to do and I will do the corn when we get some in it.

Joy, I would take my friend to the hospital get a blood transfusion and when finished they gave him Lasix. That was the only part of the deal he didn't like.

Shirley, I guess, just a pedal bike will have to do.

Larry, we have grab bars  in the bathroom and grab rails when going outside. Plus the two ramps which make it easier. Hubby is feeling a lot better now and has taken the grass cutting job away from me. While he was cutting grass yesterday I made 7 1/2 doz oatmeal cookies for him.

Gloria, our lilacs are not as good as they should be this year, maybe this is their off year. Love going to bed at night and having the smell of the lilacs drift in.

Lloyd, happy to read you are enjoying your chair.

Jane, good morning , enjoy your day and I hope you find lots of goodies at the market.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, another sunny start to the day. Just heard on local weather that is is the first dry week end with NO RAIN since the beginning of February. Four months with some rain every week end, wonder if that is a record. All I know it feels good to have a couple of days with no dampness in the air.

JANE  hope your visit to your doctor yesterday had good news for you.

JOY  most days are do nothing for me, mainly because there are few things I can do.

SHIRLEY  at first my daughter and I wrote to each other twice a week. It was something we would get a letter asking a question and about the same time would get a letter with the answer even as the letters were still in transit. We have never lost that connection we have.

AMY  living at my son's house there were lilac bushes on the side and also in the front so had the wonderful aroma coming in from 2 sides, I so miss it.

Time to go get breakfast.
Have a good day.

Good Morning from the sunny
and warm rocky coast of Maine.

Ah lilacs... The most wonderful smell, it
just doesn't last long enough...
I love Lilacs.

My AC is in now and running for
a few minutes ... just to cool and
dry off the apartment before
opening the windows and enjoying
the fresh air.

All is well here.

Hi everyone on what will probably be another really rainy but cooler day here in South Carolina.  Our high today is to be 82 with 100% chance of Thunderstorms around 7 pm this evening with still high chances throughout the rest of the day.  I have no plans of getting outside the house today so unless we lose power I really won't be impacted.  Yesterday afternoon around 5 pm the company that provides the medical equipment was here to deliver a claw footed cane for me to use (and it really helps assure I have good balance before taking another step.)  It was pouring rain here when he called a few minutes earlier but by the time the man got here to deliver the cane it had stopped.  He told me it had been a rough day making deliveries as he rain into many flooded roads around this area.

I had a great Facetime call yesterday from a man I have long known and we worked together over the years.  We recalled old memories and am sure we will be talking fairly often.  The Facetime is really good.  I do hope to get to speak with my best friend over in Grayson later today as it has been several days.  I spent the day just working on small projects, writing a letter to mail ( :o who doesn't have a computer) and writing several emails.  I reworked the medicine sheet we use with my pill boxes to record all the info from the medicine bottles.  I take a lot of medicine but after some manipulations I finally got every thing to print on one sheet. I did get the new sandals I had ordered but feet still to swollen to be able to adjust the straps but am hopeful that Scott can put in another hole closer to the end of the strap.

Sandy, my room stays warm, which is what I like, but the rest of the house seems too cool for me now but it just the way Pat likes it or a little warmer than she likes.

Addition: Since I posted in the Christian Photographers discussion earlier this morning I have been busy doing some things that I know will help Pat out today.  It is really amazing how much some things are to do sitting in a wheelchair (not that I would recommended that anyone do that before they need it).  I was able to take my nice size wicker basket and sit it on my lap and unload the dryer.  Most of the things were mind anyway.  I leave the hang  up clothes to Pat.  Then I went into the kitchen and unloaded the dishwasher, again at wheelchair height.  I set everything out on top of the counter and then stand up and put it away in the upper cabinets or wherever it needs to go.  I then got the trash ready for today, including from my bathroom and here under my desk.  Finally I fixed and ate my breakfast.  What great satisfaction to be strong enough today to do these small things to help my wife as most of these are painful to her back and feet.  We are both looking forward to a quiet day although having a friend drop in would not be discouraged.  Now the rest of the day and evening I can rest and work on some detailed projects I am doing getting all of the info in my contacts in my iPhone for my Sunday School class so I will recognize calls from them if they call.  Right now I am sitting here enjoying some good Christian music, generally Southern Gospel.  Just how good can life be!

Amy, I seem to be getting a lot of cat naps and that is a whole new thing for me.  I guess the sleeping pill each evening is working plus getting most of the details done in connection with getting my man cave set up and attending to a number of business affairs and purchasing things.

Gloria, glad you had the carpal tunnel surgery done.  I don't know why my son has put up with the tingle and loss of feeling in his hand for so long.  He probably will have to have both hands done.  I try not to push him to do things but this is one old dad will continue to stress and I think he is now ready.  Sometimes we are short sighted about seeing someone again.  With todays technology and fast transportation system we have wonderful options.  I had thought I probably would not get to see my sister and BIL again but they will be here in a few days for a nice visit.  Then Pat's sister wants to come down and my concern has been for her health.  She recently discovered that she suffers from IBS and may also have a gall bladder problem that isn't showing up on scans.  However, she will have another test this week.  She has a very high pain tolerance but has really been suffering.  My mother had a gall bladder burst and was pretty ill for awhile so hope they can rule that out before she comes down.

Lloyd, how thoughtless of your recliner to play out on you.  You will like the electric controls in your new recliner.  Pat and I both have that in the easy chairs we bought after coming to South Carolina and just hoping I won't have to get a lift chair although already have my eye on one should such a need arise.  I see your new chair also serves as a lift chair.  What brand is it? Glad to see you are enjoying it.

Jane, hope your doctor's appointment went well yesterday and good to see your name pop up in yesterday's postings.

Phyllis, Pat fixed her local fresh corn on the cob in her Instant Pot and it turned out very well. Thanks for your comments on toileting.  When you think about it we couldn't live without the ability to eliminate and there is nothing unique about it to any of us, just mores we may have been raised with.  I wonder how many here are familiar with the old outhouses?  That is all we had until I was 16 and that is what almost everyone else in our little are had.

Joy, I take the Lasix at lunch time so get a little "break" in the mornings but the afternoon and nights make up for the mornings.  I remember when my dad was in the nursing home in Iowa and I had the call in Georgia that he likely wouldn't make it through the night.  We immediately got in our car and headed to Iowa.  When I got to the nursing home he was once again coherent as they had taken off large amounts of fluids from his body.  It sure was a relief to see him awake and eating a bite of his breakfast.

Shirley, I hadn't thought about being little and having to sit in a chair where your feet no where nearly met the floor.  I am glad to get the info on the good sandals.  Right now I was just trying to get something to protect my toes as seem to keep hitting them on something.  I will look into a better pair of sandals or perhaps just go back and wear my nice fairly new shoes.  I have never been a sandal wearing man.  How difficult it must have been to not hear your mother's voice for 3 years. Glad you have good circulation in your feet.  I hope your son enjoys his time at Branson and that they will have a time without a lot of storms.  We have been to Branson once but knew we could never go again where we had to drive and deal with the hilly parking lots.  Some great shows there.  Keep stalling as that work will be there when you are ready to do it.

Amy, I sure understand your husband wanting to do all he can do like cutting the grass.  That is the same way about the little things like I described above that I enjoy doing and know it helps Pat out.  She always tries to tell me I shouldn't have done it but in reality it is easier for me to do in the wheelchair than for her trying to stand.  I know the day will arrive when she will have to pick it all up but doing these things now help strengthen me and I have always enjoyed these little morning chores.  I hope your husband didn't try to eat that 7 1/2 dozen oatmeal cookies at one setting.  Lilacs is something I grew up around but we don't seem to have them here in the South.

Gloria, enjoy the rainless weekend.  Four months with rain every weekend probably sets a new record of some kind.

Pat just went out and got the mail from yesterday before any storms move in.  I got my new shower head for my bathroom that is handheld.  Now just awaiting the grab bars, which hopefully will be here early this next week.  I also got another pair of the bifocals so I can have a pair on each side of the bed as always seem to have placed them down in the wrong place.

Hi Everyfriend!  I've been busy since I got home from church.  Do you know how many zzzzs can hide in an old sofa?  Well, I found a few of them and I used them up.

All I got at the Farmer's Market this morning was some Jalapeno peppers.  Since this is a Sunday market, there are no Amish or Mennonite stands there.  I really like the Wednesday one better and I'm planning to make a short stop there for Strawberries.  I'm all out of strawberry jam and I need some for Christmas gifts.

My Dr. appt yesterday yielded exactly the info I thought it would.  I have been having pain in my left hand and wrist beginning with the thumb joint for quite sometime.  I assumed it was arthritis and tried to ignore it but for the past two weeks, it's progressed to the point of pain bad enough to make me drop things and to bring tears to my eyes.  But it is as I thought.  Arthritis.  She gave me a prescription for some cream to rub into the area and I'm happy to say, it helps.  I also have to see a rheumatologist for an opinion and maybe a shot.

Now I have a question for all of you.  I read the directions and one of them says "after applying the cream be sure to wash your hands.  Have you ever tried to wash one hand while the other one has to be kept away from the water?  And if I'm supposed to wash both hands, what's the use of the cream?  (kidding, I know I don't wash it off.)

LARRY, about outhouses...my grandmother lived on a farm as I was growing up and they had an outhouse.  It was waaaaaay over there!  When my sister and I visited that made 5 kids in the house sometimes all running to the outhouse at the same time.  It was a two seater so there was a lot of dancing going on outside of it.

There were always outhouses at Girl Scout Camp and I got used to them there.  But when I took my troops camping, they thought it was something really different.  One of them named them a name that really stuck.  She called them "RUN-TOs"  Her reason...if you don't "run to" them you might be embarrassed.

The doggies are asking to go out.  So I'm off to take them out.  I lead a very ordinary life...not much to report but I love listening to all of you!  You will always be my "family"!

A good Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

I started with a good attitude this morning that I was going to get a lot done today, and I have, but I still have more I wanted to get done, if only the ol' bod would cooperate 🙀.

JANE,  so good to see a nice post from you today.  You commented on the arthritis pain in your hand and using the cream on it, but not being able to wash it off?  I use Valtran on both of my wrists and fatty area of my thumbs.....I use a Q-tip so I do not have to wash my hands afterwards....then finish rubbing it in using my hands rubbing together.  I do get some relief but only us it when it is really bothering me a lot as the stuff (meds) scare me.

Our oldest son called this morning to tell us that he is fine after finding out that he had a tiny hole in his retina, discovered at a routine eye exam last week.  He had to go to a retina specialist and they suggested he have it repaired with a laser, which he had done on Wednesday.  He did not want to call us and add to our worries. 😩🥰

SHIRLEY, my parents felt the same way as you said your mom did.....sending their daughter off to Germany and not knowing when we would see each other again.  Never talked to them on the telephone the whole time I was there, other than a MARS call to tell them that I had lost a baby one time.  It was only snail mail, and boy did we look forward to those letters!  My time was later than yours, as it was 1967, and luckily I was able to come home one time after our first child was born, about seven months old and my mom and dad came to Germany twice for a visit and we got to take time and go on a couple of trips together.

AMY, our lilacs were not nearly as nice as they usually are this year.

GLORIA, I, too love lilacs, so I can believe you miss not having them to see and smell like you did at your sons place.

It has been chilly here all day....maybe it made it to 60 degrees!  Yesterday it was much warmer and we were at Dave's for dinner when a horrible hail storm came and worried us all as the golf ball size or larger were really coming down.  It did not last too long, thank goodness, and there appeared to be no damage to our car!

I hope you all have a good evening.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend! I'll try to come back and report later.  It's almost time for the "boinger" and the doggies will want to be fed.  Lots going on around here.  I wish you all a good day filled with whatever you wish!

I think my feet have webs!  I am so tired of rain.  Flooding all around us but we are OK. And the house hasn't slid down into the creek yet!

Sorry about the arthritis, Jane. It is painful.  I use Aspercream with Lidocaine and that helps...for awhile.  Always comes back and especially when it is rainy.

Nothing much to talk about today either but just wanted to check in.  It is laundry day and that is about all except I think I'll cook some more applesauce with the few Granny Smith apples I have left.  It is too wet to get outside so I expect to do some reading.

Good morning everyone.
Cloudy sky this morning and calling for rain. We are going to tackle the shed today,  you know, one that gets everything piled in  good and bad....now it is time for the bad/not used to go.

Larry, we also had an outhouse, like Janie's  grandmother's it was a two seater. The ladies will understand this part, perfect in the morning when you had to "go" and morning sickness also!!

Jenny, if it isn't one thing it is another with you folks. Happy to read the repair was done for your son.

Gloria, the rain will likely take the blossoms off the flowering crab tree today..it was so pretty this year. Hope there are lots of apples as the birds will eat them in the fall.

Phyliss, good morning.. webbed feet? Rain isn't all it is quacked up to be :)

Better get a move on..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone. No AC yesterday, low humidity and not hot. Just had the bedroom fan going all night and slept great. Only thing with that is am stiff when I get up. Just letting you know I am still alive and kicking. Rain/thunderstorms are in the forecast for early evening.  54° now and would like it not getting any hotter than that.

LARRY  when I found the second surgeon  for the carpal tunnel I asked about the right one and if it could be fixed again. He said yes but at that time I had the left one done first, after it healed and I could start using it again He did the right one. That was about 9 years ago and both are still doing good. Takes about a month to be OKed by doctor to use it again. I also developed a trigger finger on my right hand and he fixed that, too. It was outpatient and was awake during it, was joking with the doctor and the nurses. Better than being sedated like I was with the doctor? who did my right hand the first time.

JANE  have you thought of those plastic gloves? Using on on the hand you use to apply the cream and then taking it off inside out? That is what my CNA's do. I have a box of those gloves but the company that hires the CNAs supplies theirs.

JENNY  my son's lilac bushes suffered a few years ago when we had the gypsy moth caterpillars, they denuded so many trees and my other sons orchard has not been the same since then, some of his trees even died.

Have a good day.

OH GLORIA, thank you for that suggestion of using the gloves!  I never thought of that.  And I do have some.  Mostly I use them when I'm cleaning and chopping hot peppers.

And speaking of hot peppers, I dealt with the ones I brought home from the Farmers market yesterday.  I made Jalapeno jelly with them.  I always have some left that's not enough for a full jar so this morning I had some of it on my toast.  UM UM GOOD!  I wonder who might like some of that for Christmas?

Gotta start getting ready for work.  I want to make a stop on the way in so I need an early start.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Hi everyone on what is probably going to be another rainy and cool day here in my part of South Carolina.  The morning looks like it will be calm but thundershowers are predicted for the afternoon.  Yesterday I heard that an area near here had up to 7 inches of rain and we had only a little less than 1 inch.

This morning my activities were not as they have been for several days.  I actually slept about 15 minutes longer and got up around close to 4 am.  I got cleaned up and dressed for the day then decided to lay back down and use my iPhone to read my emails, devotionals, and to read through the postings since yesterday on the CP and S&F sites.  The iPhone is so handy.  I then had my breakfast and am now settled in front of my big computer, probably for most all of the morning since I don't take another Lasix until lunch time and found the fluid is still coming off without having to keep my feet elevated above my heart level in the mornings.  I will get my feet elevated during the PM hours with oxygen being used and so can enjoy a nice quiet afternoon and evening.

If I keep gushing about feeling better daily I hope you are seeing me as some kind of Pollyanna as I am also realistic.  But I just have to share how much better I am feeling.  I am beginning to see the results of the Lasix but know there is still a long way to go.  Yesterday afternoon I stepped on my scales and found it registered 180 pounds whereas I had started out at 215 pounds.  I am certain another probably 20 or 30 pounds is due to this fluid buildup.  I am stronger this morning and just know it is going to be a wonderful day.  Around 1 pm the man that heads the ramp building committee will be here to check out our situation and I should know whether the committee will build one for us, but I am very optimistic they will.  I pay all of the out of pocket for the committee plus make a generous donation back to that committee or to wherever they ask for the money to go.  Then my new office chair is to be delivered sometime today and I hope it is morning.

Yesterday my 1st cousin, who was Pat's best friend growing up and college roommate and had introduced Pat and I in college (the rest is history) called me.  We had a wonderful chat and she has Facetime so sure we will be staying in touch better than we have in years.  Later I wrote to my boyhood best friend to get the phone number of his first wife (and mother of his oldest son).  She was the one and only girl in our Senior Class of six in high school and I haven't had any contact with her for over 20 years and want to reestablish our friendship as she is a very lovely lady.  Our good neighbor stopped by and gave Pat some home grown tomatoes yesterday.  I was resting at the time and so didn't get to visit with him but we have had some good conversations and I know he will be back over.

I have decided to start using the Edge Microsoft browser and the related programs like Mail on all of my computers.  I am finding it interesting to set up and it gives me something new to learn.  Guess I have rattled on long enough for this morning.

Jane, look harder as I just bet there are few more ZZZ's in that sofa as a spare when you need them. I have never cared for Jalapeno peppers.  The strawberries Pat got the other day were pretty small as we are nearing the end of the strawberry season here in SC. Pat will just revert back to the frozen strawberries she gets at Costco, that are usually very large. Sure hope the cream your doctor prescribed will continue to bring you relief.  I am one of those fortunate people not to suffer from arthritis.  Don't know why as both my folks suffered from it as did my grandmother.  Pat also has a lot of arthritis.  How about using a vinyl glove on the hand applying the cream.  Using the Q-tip was also another great idea.  Does the arthritis create any problems with your job?  I expect you made good use of the scanner to avoid having to punch in many numbers. When my cousins from the city would visit the farm it was always a great adventure for them to use the outhouse since that was not something they had in the cities where they lived.  The girl calling the "RUN TOs" had it right.

Jenny, it seems we can always plan to get more done than we do but it seems the important does get attended to and the rest can wait another day.  It is a matter of priorities and tackling one item at a time and getting the enjoyment of marking it off you list.  I have made and revised lists like crazy since starting on this Hospice journey and now my lists are getting pretty small. Laser eye surgery seems to fix so many problems these days.  Nice of your son not wanting to add further concerns to you at this time until he could tell you all was well. Sure your car wasn't damaged in the hail storm.

Phyllis, sure glad you are OK with all the flooding occurring around these areas.  I will take the heat and dry weather to all the rain and flooding and storms that have been going on.  Pat has tried the Aspercream but it didn't seem to help her. Enjoy your reading today.

Amy, your garage is a little like our attic in that we can always store it up there and deal with it later.  Fortunately Elizabeth took charge and got our attic in good shape sometime ago so it isn't too bad.  We try to avoid doing into the attic on these hot days. Our outhouse was also a two seater and I remember Dad putting lime in it and on occasion moving it to a different location.  As I remember it sat behind our smoke house so wasn't setting out in the open.  As I think about it the smoke house was our attic storage.  It had a separate little room at the back where the coal was stored with an outside door.  Mother had her washing machine out there and the deep freeze.  There were shelves at the back of the smoke house area.  Before we had the REA come in with electricity Dad had big series of old batteries that at least provided some electric light to the house.

Gloria, glad you clarified the Carpal Tunnel surgery matter as I had read it that it could only be fixed once. Glad you now have good use from both hands after the surgery.  Pat had a trigger finger that was fixed sometime ago.  It is a good thing anytime we can avoid sedation as that is not kind to we older folks.  I use a lot of the vinyl gloves and now the Hospice is also providing them.

Joy, enjoy your day.  It seems that the hair appointments are always a highlight for the ladies.  We men just want to get our hair cut and get it over with.  My mother had a standing appointment while she was still at home and able to drive and then when she was in the nursing home we saw to it that Mother had her hair done each week and she always looked so nice.  My sister did a grand job of being use mother looked nice with her clothes and hair.

I neglected to tell you this morning that I think I killed my stove.  I already had 2 burners that I couldn't use and I boiled the jelly over.  You CANNOT clean that stuff off a glass top range.  I've been working on it for the better part of the time since I did it.  This afternoon, I stopped by my son's store to find out if the glass top can be replaced.  His answer "yes but it costs as much as getting a new stove".  And that's what I'm doing.  Mine is 21 years old and he thinks it's time I replaced it.  I asked him if he could put me on time payments.  His answer..."we'll take good care of you".  I think that might be good!

Anyway, I'm getting a new stove...maybe tomorrow!  That's good because I need to keep up with the summer veggies.  This means the instant pot gets sidelined!

LARRY, I am so enjoying your posts!  I pray that your improvement is long term.  Just your positive attitude has to make a big difference in your daily liing!

Now, I think I'll check the sofa for zzzs.  The seem to multiply from time to time!  My eyelids are really drooping!

I hope your are all having a lovely day!

Good morning everyone..

More rain today and again tomorrow. I have an appointment at the chiropractors this morning. Yesterday we took a load of garbage from the shed to the dump but there is still more that can go. We have been  in this house 19 years and have a collection of items that will go to the dump, to Habitat for Humanity or to Sally Ann.

I changed Babes grooming appointment to the 21st. Something just didn't sit right with me on the one place close to us.I went with my gut feelings and made an appointment at Pet Smart for her....have to ravel and a bit more money but I also have peace of mind.

Jane, yes it is time for a new stove and knowing you ,you worked that stove with all your preserving .

Jenny safe flight.

Larry, you just gush all you want. We  can see what a difference you are going through and loving the fact you a feeling better!! Do you think this fluid retention was the root of all your problems?

Joy, hope all went well with the Dr appointment.

Gloria, we had the a/c on in the morning to get the dampness out then later in the evening a fire on!! Freeze or fry is our weather here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think the doggies have finished their breakfast and it won't be long before they bug me to go out.  We got up at the crack of dawn again this morning, went out and took care of business, they had their pills ad then we crashed while we waited.  Does anyone know what time DAWN CRACKS around here these days?  Sometimes I wish these dogs could understand Daylight Saving Time!

I have to get dressed because I have a feeling my new stove will be first on the delivery list today.  My son knows I get up early and will probably take advantage of that.  Of course, the other option is that it won't come at all.  If he has demanding OTHER customers, he knows Mom will wait!  And she won't get angry with him!

My yard is starting to look so nice!  Right now, I'm just waiting for more decorative stones to come up from Maryland with my daughter.  Of course, the best part of that is getting to see my daughter!

JENNY, have a safe trip.  I hope you find your father progressing well and in good spirits!

Guess I better go get dressed before the doggies start hollering to go out!  Enjoy your day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone, well it is morning and good because we have all woken up this morning BUT it is pouring here again. Should not complain because we did have 3 beautiful spring days in a row, a miracle this year.

JANE  I remember the first time I cut up hot peppers, even my fingertips burned. Learned to use the gloves after that. I made that jelly once years ago and loved it, so did my oldest son.

LARRY  so good to read that you are feeling better and stronger each day, best news from you. Lucky you getting fresh tomatoes. Around here it will be more than a month before the early ones will be ready.

JENNY  by now you must be up in the air. Hope seeing your dad will put your mind at ease about him.

AMY  no matter how long you live someplace things sure pile up that you really do not need or want. Mostly I have my AC on the dehumidify setting unless it is hot then it is set on the AC setting.

HAVE A GOOD DAY.

I'm sorry about your stove, Jane, but isn't it nice to have an appliance dealer right in your family!  Good luck with your new one when you get it.  My glass top is almost ten years old and it is still in good condition, thank goodness, because I knew replacing the top is really expensive.  On the other hand....the self cleaning oven doesn't get used as much as it should, I'm afraid.  User laziness seems to be it's problem.  <sigh>

Amy, rain is definitely NOT all it "quacked" up to be.  (your pun made me laugh)  ;D  There is actually sun shining this morning after another night of off-and-on rain.  I think it might be a good day.  Sometimes you just have to go with that "gut instinct" even though you can't explain it.  It almost always turns out to be the right decision.

You sound good, Larry.  That makes me happy.  I'm hoping local tomatoes will be here soon.  I'm yearning for a good sliced tomato and Duke's mayonnaise sandwich.  Unfortunately, my good neighbor that has supplied me with fresh tomatoes from their farm garden is in the process of moving.  I'll miss the vegetables that she brought to me every summer but I'll miss them more.  They have been good neighbors.

Hi, Gloria.  Red Pepper jelly is my favorite but I've never made my own.  I'm lucky enough to find it at a local farmer's market most of the time.  Glad the weather is giving you some good days along with the rainy ones.  Those of us all up and down the east coast seem to be having the same kind of weather and I'm really tired of it, too.  But, it's better than a hurricane.

Thinking of you, Jenny, and hope you find your Dad doing so much better.

Good morning to all of you, my friends.  Hope everything goes well for all of you today.

Hi everyone on an overcast and there is but a little chance of rain today with it staying in the mid-80's range.

Today is the day the aid comes to help me with my bath.  I have everything set up ready to go and know she is one busy lady. This has been an exciting morning for me.  A few days ago I got a second pair of sandals, this time with straps that would adjust but I still couldn't get them on my swollen feet.  Will this morning I tried again and they fit onto my feet.  They are cheap and firmly things and I plan on sending them back.  I am hopeful that I can now get on my house slippers and not have to buy sandals.  There was a discussion just yesterday in Seniors and Friends so I plan on looking back today and noting the companies that have good sandals so I can check them out.  I am more than ready to start getting out of the house and told Pat when she goes somewhere I will go along and find a corner to read or listen to my book and then she won't have to worry about going off and leaving me.  Scott's schedule was changed this week to have today and tomorrow off although he may have to work this evening.  He plans on coming out later this morning after picking up a big grocery order for his mother from the Walmart online ordering.

I did meet with the man who heads up our Churches ramp team and he is going to build a ramp for us but it probably will be in mid-July and he has some other commitments and members of his team may be away for a vacation, etc.  We can certainly get by until then.  Then my new office chair was delivered by Office Depot and they just put it on the front porch and Pat had to get the box inside the house.  Fortunately it wasn't too heavy.  I expect delivery of several things today.  Yesterday afternoon a lady from our Sunday School class called saying she was bringing us dinner.  Pat hadn't started anything and the call and meal was most welcome.  In fact she brought enough food for more than one meal.

Lloyd, when the wife calls we had better respond particularly if it involves a meal that is ready.  It looks like you will enjoy a typical Missouri Spring day back your way.  I certainly agree with you that the news is depressing as it seems to be a replay of the same old news items over and over.  Some days I just enjoy peace and quiet and in the afternoons often just close my eyes and listen to some of my beautiful music on Spotify.

Jenny, that is getting up early and I bet you both will be exhausted by the time you get to Phoenix.  At least it will still be early there so maybe you can get in a cat nap or two today.  I hope you find your Dad in good spirits and cooperative. I bet he will really be happy to see you as well Diane.

Amy, one of the advantages of making frequent moves during my work life was it helped us keep things from accumulating to much, although we always moved more than we needed and then accumulated more as in living in the same house for 20 years.  I have started cleaning out and throwing away a lot of papers and old things that really have no value.  What is still good I will try to give away, except for my piano.  I still must do some current research on it.  I did write and offer my unused desktop computer to our Children's Ministry person yesterday and awaiting her reply.  Amy, no the fluid retention is just the normal outcome of congestive heart failure, which I have know I have had for many years.  For as much insult as I have done to my heart with the 30 plus times into the cath lab, six stents that have all failed, two heart surgeries, many pills taken, 70 EECP treatments where my legs were wrapped and pressure applied with a big machine on the off beat of my heart, 4 years of cardiac rehab, my second Pacemaker/defibrillator  and probably somethings I have forgotten, my heart has never let me down.  No wonder my heart is tired and weak but it still keeps ticking.  God's creation of our bodies is certainly a miracle.

Gloria, Pat ate one of the tomatoes the neighbor brought over and said it was just delicious.  She gets them all as I am not a tomato person.  I sort of worry you all may mildew away up there with all the rain you have been getting.

Jane, I bet you will be happy with a new stove and it sounds like 21 years is a long time with all the cooking and food preparation you do.  Nice to have a son in the appliance business.  After all you know where he lives and he better treat his mother well.  So far Pat hasn't really gotten anything too bad on her glass stove top but it is not yet 5 years old.  She really regretted not being able to bring over the new range she had gotten not too long before we moved but the house had sold quickly and it wouldn't have been fair to switch the stoves.  Jane, I am really feeling better by the day and now anticipating getting out.  I anticipate each day and told Pat last evening I think the reason I don't sleep very long periods is that I don't want to waste an hour of the remainder of my life.  I agree that attitude makes a big difference in a person's life and I intend to enjoy each minute God gives me yet on this earth with the anticipation of my soul going to heaven.

Just a quick note as I am headed off to bed....getting up at 2AM and a full day has me just totally wiped out!

Dad is doing great......his voice was so much stronger when I talked to him last night and then seeing him today he looks very good....
So much better than I expected.  Good coloring......smiling.  Hydrated....The care home is very nice and every person there seems delightful.....smiling and so encouraging..I do not know why he would ever want to leave!  Hahaha IF ONLY we could find a nursing home like this none of us would mind him moving in there!  Sadly, IF Dad, or any of this thinks this place is a example of having to go to a nursing home, he and we are in for a big surprise! Now if we can just get him to keep up the good work here at home.....

We talked to the head lady there, the case worker and she just could not have been any more helpful and they truly all seemed to genuinely care about dad and how he has improved......even with his orneriness they all seem to like him.

Tomorrow he is to wear a special blue shirt they gave him ......it is his graduation T-shirt.

Glad I got up to let cats in, will go back to sleep with a smile on my face at your happy post, Jenn!  I was almost dreading what you would find when you got there so especially nice to hear he is doing so well. Give him an extra hug from one in Kansas that's been praying for him!

Tom & Callie came in but so far Tiger is still out & about. She is not afraid of storms like Tom. Callie was right there when I opened the door, bless her heart, she wants to be family so bad & it breaks my heart that I can't trust her to travel with us. I am really dreading pulling out of the driveway and seeing her waiting by the garage door. She would go crazy locked inside the RV for a week, no idea what she might do just starting the engine. Well, she wanted back out so is sitting under the overhang watching it rain. Plenty places to stay dry. Tom crawled under the couch so he doesn't see the flashes of lightning & hear the thunder.

Jane, hope your new stove arrives early in the morning. I do understand customers needing AC must come first. When ours went out we shopped for which ever company could get here first. Replaced that AC 3 times in 30 years, guess they don't have much of a warranty. The last time that company did it right & Cas was satisfied, neither unit (AC or furnace) had gone out, he thought the AC was noisy & when he decided to replace he went with a company like your son's & got better service.

Guess I'd better go back to bed, had a couple naps today & not sleepy. Been a crazy week for sleeping, I usually can go right back to sleep if a storm or cats gets me up, I aim for 6 hours & will nap when I don't get that much. I think I'm just getting lazy & enjoy the naps.

Lloyd, so far I've never needed the AC any colder when driving, even when we went to the northwest during summer months in the little Rialta. This year I found some new sun shades that just cling to the windows without suction cups, so I can press them on & keep the sun from hitting my skin. I never wanted the side windows tinted because I take photos when driving, these shades are fantastic. As short as I am, the visors don't help much so last trip I even slid one of the clings up under the visor & it stopped that setting sun from blinding me. I don't go anywhere when it's really hot but generally go to the mountains in the summer and to Missouri when colder. In MO I do have electric hook ups but only when absolutely necessary to stay in a commercial campground do we have electricity in CO. Frig & freezer run on propane as well as the stove & oven. Most nights in the high country it gets down to the 40s so very comfy. I don't watch TV or DVDs at all when in CO but do in MO. I am easily pleased, glad to be out in the woods & thankful when everything is running okay! Good luck with your next trip, we will be heading west between now & 4th of July, got to be here for the 4th. Everyone gets together to shoot fireworks & the "big kids" (in their 50s & 60s) enjoy as much as the little great grands!

Larry, great to see your cheerful posts & what a benefit Hospice has been. Sure wish someone had mentioned that for Cas, think it would have made a difference in those last couple years. All the doctors did was keep adding more pills and that didn't help. I think we have all benefited from your being so open and explaining. When my cardiologist put down I have CHF (when I asked him to get me off the list for jury duty), it was kind of a shock to see it in print. Mine will take a little different path because of being the valve, but it takes a head adjustment to accept "what is, is".

Oops, here comes another round of thunder & lightning.... may as well have something to eat while Mother Nature gets this out of her system!  You know that song, "red & yellow, green & blue... ?"  only this radar is red, yellow green and purple! Not sure if I hear hail or just hard rain, better look.  Y'all behave.  Shirley

Good morning everyone..

Beautiful sunny day here.. Have to take my vehicle in this morning, the engine light came back on.
The trip to the chiropractors went ok...will go again on Fri. When I told him what happened and when he said I should have called after a week and got it checked out. I am not one to run to the Drs  but will remember this and hope there is no next time, once was enough!

Jane, the garden is starting to peek!! I hope to see pumpkins peek soon. :) Hope you stove comes today.

Jenny, what a nice report on your Dad. Sure make it easier on you when you get to see this in person.

Larry, attitude is everything in life. There are those that complain at the drop of a hat, not happy with what they have. One should be so thankful for the little things and give thanks for them. You are amazing on how you are preparing and dealing with everything, I am sure it is not easy going from the one who looked after others to being looked after. You would be a joy to look after you are so easy going.

Better get a move on here..

Enjoy your day everyone.

And now a very good morning to Everyfriend!  Yesterday was a slow day in the Soda Shoppe!  I hope today is busier.  Maybe we need a new soda jerk!  This one might not be putting enough chocolate in the chocolate sodas.

LARRY, Shirley says it so much better than I do but I must say I agree with her on your (and Gloria De's) openness.  My idea of Hospice was so different and I even have a friend who worked her retirement years for Hospice.  I always used to tell her that if I was sure I'd get her, I'd take Hospice right now.  She was well liked!

The doggies are fed and I'm fed and on my second cu of coffee.

JENNY, I LOVED your upbeat report on your Dad!  After the reports and the the short sleep trip, you must have been so relieved when you actually saw him.  As SHIRLEY said, "Give him a hug from some one in PA who's been praying for him, too".  I think Diane also deserves a hug.  What a time she's had!

I won't be getting my stove early this morning.  I have to be to work at 10 and the store doesn't open until 9 so he has no help until then.  And I told him that I need him to bring it when I'm here because I KNOW it needs cleaning back there.  Who ever moves a stove out to clean behind it?
The last time it was cleaned was about 8 year ago when they moved it out so I could paint the wall behind it.  I'm hoping they come after I get home from work because I'm stopping at the Farmers Market for strawberries for jam.

I hope you all have a lovely day filled with all the things you love best.  Wish me smiles in my line today.

AMY, you sneaked in while I was typing.  Nice to see those little heads peeking up in your garden.  Your chiropractor must be a lot like mine.  She always tells me I should have come in sooner.  I'm going tomorrow.  I'm looking forward to the "after".

Good morning every one, slept great last night with window open and no AC or fan running. Cooled off good so was a good night for sleeping. Yesterday they started cutting down all the beautiful huge pine trees and the oaks and pines, too. They are now afraid of a storm knocking down branches or even the trees and someone getting hurt.  Don't know why they didn't cut them down 14 years ago when doing the building of this place. It will let more light into the apartments on that north side but will let the cold winter winds hit that side more. Lot of reports about black bears around the state lately. The state has been warning people to take down bird feeders but they leave them up and full and it draws the bears. One was even trying to get into a car with a woman inside, they get right up to sliding doors and look in. Glad I no longer can take hikes through the woods.

LARRY  you are right, our bodies are one of God's miracles. Then he gave some people the brains to become doctors to keep us going. Most  of the times when I have the AC running I have it set on dehumid, keeps it dry in here so no mold.

JANE  my daughter and my SIL have finally bought a much bigger generator and have an AC. Glad they will finally be able to sleep better with it cooler in the house when the temperature gets up to 100 and higher. They now have a big tank for the propane gas they need to run most everything.

JENNY  if I ever have to go into a nursing home there is only one that I would not mind, it is right here in this town. The man who started it and has now turned it over to his son is a family man and believes it treating all the residents like family. There are 2 others in town but not as good from what I have heard.

SHIRLEY  I don't mind thunder and lightning but like it after I fall asleep, seldom does the loud booms wake me up.

PHYLLIS  Bunnie's sister posted for awhile in Bis' Nest and she is the one I got the recipe from. I did find some in a market once but it was not as tasty as the homemade. In this state most of the hurricanes do damage along the coastline but at times they will come inland and do a lot of damage.

Have a good day.

Good morning.  It is a pretty sunny morning, but only in the 60's.  Sure am looking for some more warmer weather.

I have been missing for a day or so.  I did have a good doctor's appointment on Monday.  Good results from the x-rays I had last week.  DOn't have to go back until March 2020.  That seems such a long time.

Larry, so go to see your uplifting messages.  With your attitude, I sure hope you will keep feeling stronger and soon be able to get back to church.  You have such a wonderful positive outlook.

Good morning to Amy. Jenny Gloria and Shirley.

Jenny,. so happy to hear that your dad is doing so much better.  I know that had to be a big relief to see him doing so well.

Jane, do hope you will get your stove today.  You will be "cooking up a storm".

Gloria, glad you were able to sleep so well.  I have had a couple very restless nights. I don't hardly use my A/C during the day. but sometime at night, it gets really stuffy and I turn it on.  Most of the time, that does help me to get to sleep, but hasn't worked the past couple nights. I do take naps during the day, and I am  sure that doesn't help me.

Shirley, sorry you are having to deal with so many storms.  We have had a lot of rain, but not too many bad storms.

Hope I can get this posted before I lose it.  I lost my original message, so this one is a little abbreviated.  Wish I knew what I do when I lose it.

Anyway, hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Joy

Hi everyone.  It is only a little after 6 am and still dark outside my window here by my desk.  We had a very nice day here yesterday and the rain stayed away.  It does look like we have a really good chance of rain throughout the day but our temps should remain nice.

I had an interesting night, if a bit scary.  I use a password program called Last Pass and have for years.  It has one Master Password that remains only in your knowledge and cannot be recovered if lost.  They use very strong military type encryption and I have tons of not only passwords but other related information stored in Last Pass. Last night while doing something it suggested it was time to change the password.  This I did but obviously didn't get the process completed and it appeared for a time that I would lose all of the passwords and other information I have stored in Last Pass.  Finally I can upon an email that showed how to revert back to the old password and that is what I did and didn't lose a thing.  I was very relived.

Yesterday my new office chair for the computer arrived and Elizabeth stopped over and started to put it together only to find out it hadn't been assembled correctly.  So we are taking it back to Office Depot locally ASAP for a refund.  This chair, like a steno chair, had no arms and it dawned on me during the night that what I had was a disaster waiting to occur as it would be so easy to fall from it.  Then I remembered I had used one of our dinette chairs as my office chair in the past so rolled one of them into my office and it is going to work perfectly and I don't need to buy another chair.  I hope we can take the chair back for a refund later this morning and while there I want to get a blue tooth adapter for my TV and then I am going to give myself a Father's Day gift of a good pair of blue tooth headphones just to use with the TV.  I have a couple of pair of inexpensive small ear bud type head gear and each will be dedicated to a separate device.

I expect Scott to be here fairly early this morning.  Pat has arranged with a friend to pick her up here at the house to take her to her crafts activities at the Church later this morning.  I plan on using my walker today at the Credit Union and Office Depot rather than having to have Scott deal with the transport chair for our outing and if I play it right we can still get some ARBY's sandwiches to bring home for lunch. After the busy morning I will probably crash this afternoon as I have been doing most afternoons and evening.

Lloyd, I hope you soon get your RV fixed up just the way you want it.  It seems you have had a lot of different things to fix or replace.

Jane, yesterday was a most beautiful day here in South Carolina.  We haven't seen the sun here yet today and already had a good early morning rain shower.

Jenny, I left you a response to your posting over in the B&T discussion.

Shirley, I always heard in Georgia that you should expect to have to change your AC out every 10 years.  We were in the house for about 20 years and didn't have to replace it, only a couple of minor repairs during that time. It was a relief to sign the sell papers as once you do that you no longer have a responsibility for the home, appliances, or anything else. I am doing my best to tell as many people as I can about my own experience with Hospice and what a difference it has already made just starting my 4th week. I have serious doubts that I would have lasted the remainder of this year the way my health was going.  Now I am making plans and really enjoying my life, eating again and the highlight of yesterday in being able to get house shoes on my feet for the first time in a long time. I well remember my surprise when my doctors started talking about CHF several years ago.  Thank goodness I went back to my great cardiologist, who had moved to Aiken, upon the assistance of Scott when I couldn't get in touch with my new cardiologist.

Amy, sure hasn't taken your garden long to peak! I agree with you on the importance of attitude and have never gotten into the "why me" attitude as I say why not me.  I am beginning to be able again to do a few things for Pat like get her coffee ready to turn on in the mornings, empty the dishwasher and take out a load of non-hangup clothes.

Jane, those chocolate sodas have been a little lacking recently.  More ice cream please.

Gloria, those bears would certainly be a concern to me.  I haven't heard of any in our area.  We do have a lot of wide turkeys.  It is a shame to see the trees go but it sounds like a wise thing as a person's life could be at risk especially with all the storms.  Unfortunately many of the nursing homes have been bought up by big corporations and the emphasis goes to the bottom line.  Fortunately are  still caring staff but usually overworked and underpaid.

Joy, it is always good to get a fine report from our doctor.

Hello,Family!  I just want you to know that I probably won't be checking in tomorrow morning.  I have a chiropractor appointment and it's about an hour's drive away.  I probably should change but I really love her personally and I love how she makes me feel.  I don't go n the winter any more but a nice Spring day is okay.  And I can stop at the Amish store on my way home.

I have to text my son when I leave the Amish store. It's only about 20 minutes from my house.  He's going to bring the stove as soon as he can after I get home tomorrow.  YaY!!!!

Depending on how tired I am when I get home, there might be strawberry jam tomorrow.  I got the strawberries t the Farmers Market today.  Saturday at the latest!  I have a very busy Friday!

I'm off to bed to rest up for my long drive tomorrow  I wish you all a peaceful sleep and a happy tomorrow....and more ice cream in your sodas!

Cats have had their last meal of the day & I filled the bowls of the dry food so they can snack whenever they are inside & still hungry. It is about dark so, nice & cool so they are ready to roam. We walked down to the river, still muddy but water is in the "old" bank. Now it has a small stream that runs along that old bank, then a sandy beach where the trees started growing a few years ago & we cut a path through to reach the water. Rivers constantly change, maybe this will continue to go down the rest of the summer so I can have my woods back & walk out to feed the fish. You would never guess that I am just down river from the zoo, up river from the tourist "Cowtown" & Botanica & maybe a mile from downtown Wichita.

I got out the weed whip/ Black & Decker battery one that Cas bought me before he died... actually, I wore that one out & bought another just like it. Started out being used down along the river/ flowers, but this last year been trimming the berm & even the ivy that grows up the brick on the garage. I just keep it trimmed about knee high so I don't have to pull it down when it goes up too high. The lawn guys don't do anything to the berm or that end of the garage, just trim along the edge. I am playing it smart, have some rain boots that I can step into & I spray OFF on the boots & so far it keeps the bugs from hopping up my legs. Fleas, ticks & mosquitoes are thriving with all this rain and we did NOT have a hard winter.

Larry, my heart almost stopped when you told about losing your passwords. I keep mine on a WordPad & did print it a couple years ago but have made lots of changes since so know what a disaster it would be to lose. Right now both sons are out of town & daughter drove back to St.Louis today, so if anything goes wrong with a computer, I am up a creek! Glad you are able to enjoy eating again. I happen to like to eat, never did as a kid, only ate because my mother begged me to & made me feel guilty when I didn't. When Cas was alive he didn't want to eat out so I would go get whatever looked good on TV or cook what sounded good to him & we ate at home. Now I go pick up or cook what sounds good to me & eat at home in front of a TV. Life is good & stay busy. Right now I'm doing the search & charge batteries for cameras, lights & everything that goes camping. I discovered today that my GPS "on/off" switch won't work. Bad news since I just bought new batteries for it & they were not cheap (like $50 each). It is a hand held that I can pick up & make sure I'm on the right highway when detours or changes in the highways. I have no sense of direction, Cas used to test me to see if I knew which way to go when we stopped for gas. Not a joke, I can't tell if I'm not on a highway I know.

Joy, my GP doctor doesn't bother making appointments ahead for me... just waits until I have a problem & then we talk about what tests need to be run, etc. The cardio makes appointments for whatever Medicare dictates. Glad your check up went okay & no more visits until next year!

Gloria, I was wondering if Regina can get trees to grow around the house. I am not familiar with what grows in that area, but I am a tree planter & can't handle the sun. The one great grand came back from FL all broke out from the sun, in spite of all the sun block, etc... she is the one with the dark hair & nobody would expect have a problem with sun, but we can't change what our body dictates. My father used to pass out from sun... went through 2 or 3 weeks of tests at the hospital in St.Louis & all they could tell him was, "you are allergic to sun rays so stay out of the sun". He had plenty of trees in their yard so would stop in the shade or do yard work early or late in the day.

Jane, I thought strawberry season was over, guess you are that much further north.... I will check out the farmer's market this Sat... wish we had an Amish store... got Mennonite meat store & last time I was at the farmer's market I did see a stall that was Mennonite run... forgot about that. I haven't had a good chiropractor for years.

Lloyd, my neighbor that died last year had a big kettle that she kept pansies in all summer. When they went out of town I would go water them every day & loved all the different colors.

Better get to bed. Need to get some extra jobs done tomorrow. Sweet dreams to all.... Shirley

Hi everyone.  It is now  little after 4:30 am and have been up since about 2 am.  However, I feel like a new and refreshed man after a very busy day (for me) yesterday.  I had gotten up around 1 am yesterday and then when Scott went here we went over to the Credit Union so I could finish up some business I had started last week. I decided I would just use my walker yesterday and while there the Lasik kicked in again and their rest rooms were across a big lobby, down a couple of corridors and it seemed a mile to walk but I found it in time.

We were through at the Credit Union in probably an hour and then drove down to Office Depot to return the office chair.  When I got there I couldn't find the page I had saved on my phone and a nice young lady was trying to find the order on the computer without success.  Finally I realized the chair was sitting right in front of me with a big mailing label.  The manager came to the rescue and was able to locate the order from a few days earlier in the computer and to give us the refund.  I had intended to buy a couple of things, which I now know wouldn't have worked anyway but they didn't have any in their inventory.  In the meantime, as happens when you take a fairly large dose of diuretics in the morning it was necessary to find the rest room again ASAP.  Of course, it was in the very back of the store and down a couple of long corridors. Pat had gotten home from her gifts group only to find she had left her house keys in another purse and was thus locked out of the house.  Fortunately she didn't get too cold (it was in the 60's here yesterday morning) and was also able to pull one of the porch chairs into the little protected alcove to our front door and wait for us.  When we finished at Office Depot we stopped at the drive thru at Arby's and they allowed us to use three coupons for three different sandwich offers and then we came on home.  I was literally exhausted from all of the walking and after a quick lunch I laid down for a couple of hours and rested.  Then two different couples from the Church stopped by for a nice visit.  Fortunately we all knew each other and had a very nice visit.  By the time they left the girls arrived to spend a little time with us and have dinner with us for our Wednesday night get together.  By seven PM I had to excuse myself and go to bed.

I was able to get probably around 5 or 6 hours of good sleep last night and felt like a new person this morning.  The main thing on the schedule is the aid will be here around 8 am to help me with my bath and the rest of the day is clear. Scott was able to get the laser printers all working as they should and do a couple of other small jobs.  This morning a lot of little pieces came together, such as the return RMA's for the two ramps.  I have said all of this to say I think this is going to be a great and pretty quiet day and I will take everything at a slow and steady pace.  I decided to set a time to assure I get up and walk somewhere in the house every 45 minutes. My legs are getting stronger and some of the swelling is definitely being reduced.

For those of you who also read the Christian Photographers general discussion, Oldiesman has left a message that he is working on the consolidation of the site per his previous notice and the site won't accept new posting unless he can finish some test and transfer things.  He does have a job beside looking after us!
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/Smileys/alive/smiley.gif[/img]

Jane, hope you got that new stove in and all set for some good cooking in the ahead.  Glad you can get into see your chiropractor and thanks for the heads up about the  possibility you wouldn't get in to post this morning but see you did pop in for the good news from Jenny.

Shirley, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but keeping your password in WordPad on your computer provides no security at all.  You would be better to get a nice little daytimer for book like that and just write them down. Some passwords we really don't care about as there really is no personal or financial info revealed on the site usually unless you store the credit car info on a website for convenience.  I am really glad to be able to eat again and at about 4 o'clock this morning I decided to have a couple of cookies and then just a few minutes ago ate my breakfast. I have always loved to eat and like Lloyd I have a real sweet tooth.  How great is it to be told to eat or not eat whatever I want in this Hospice program.  So if I want cookies in the middle of the night that is the way it is going to be.  They have asked me to restrict my fluid intake due to the advanced kidney disease but I am thirsty this morning and so am going to enjoy some nice ice water, spread out over a significant period of time.  The last few days I have carefully measured out 1 1/2 liters of water (the max I am suppose to have) and if I drink a Coke of 12 ounces I just pour out an equivalent amount of the water.  Pat and I love to eat out and have done so many, many times over the years.  I noticed as we drove by Ruby Tuesdays that it looked mighty appealing again so hope to go back soon whereas these last 5 or 6 months I didn't want to eat out or eat at all for that matter.

You sound so good and upbeat, Larry.  I am so pleased for you and love reading your posts.

Jane, you made me remember that I have some bags of strawberries and blueberries in the freezer.  I'm going to get them out and dump them in the Instant Pot and make some jam.  I love homemade jam and it is so easy to do.  Thanks for the reminder.  I made up the last of the bag of apples into applesauce and it is delicious.  I wasn't interested in eating very much last night so had a piece of buttered toast and a small helping of applesauce.  I fixed bacon and an omelet for David but that just didn't appeal to me and the toast and applesauce were perfect.

It is gray and dreary here today but, for the moment, it is NOT raining.  I hope it will hold off while I go to the grocery store.  Maybe I should add more apples and some berries to the list.   ::)

Jenny, what good news about your Dad.  I'm sure he is happier being back home and such a relief that he is doing so well.

Shirley, we have ivy that insists on creeping up the side of the house so have to beat it back every now and then.  It is really invasive here in NC and I mentally put the hex on the man we bought the house from for planting it.  The truth is, I like to see it growing up and over tree stumps, etc. as long as it isn't growing over sidewalks and my house!  I know exactly where you live in relation to the Zoo and Cowtown!  My brother designed some of the natural habitat animal enclosures many years ago and my sister-in-law designed a lot of the landscapes. I've been to Cowtown but didn't ever make it to the Zoo.

Have a pleasant and easy day, All.

PHYLLIS, if you like the taste of cinnamon in applesauce (I do) after it gets hot, throw in a handful of cinnamon redhots.  Most stores have them in boxes like we used to get at the movies for about 80c.  It gives the applesauce and ice pinkish color and a little zest!

My stove is on the way.  I'm just waiting for them to get here.  I have one more thing to clear out of the way before they get here and I have to go change my clothes befor I do that because I need to clean behind it.

I feel great after my trip to the chiropractor but she says "it's not all back in place.  I'll be going back again the end of next month.

I'm off to change clothes and get to work.  I'm going to clean strawberries until they get here.  Enjoy whatever you're up to today!

You did that so fast, Bubble, took me a second to realize that was ME!  Thank you. I really have gotten a kick out of these "kids" showing up every morning for their bath & quality time. They are so busy raising little ones & having another family being created, would never have understood if not having watched "Barbara & George" all those years ago.

SHIRLEY, that's part of it but I think it's atonement for all the nights he went to bed without telling me he had a 7 a.m. basketball practice.  I jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes and drove off sometimes only half dressed to get him there on time.

It works great.  The first batch of strawberry jam is cooling on the kitchen counter.

Life is good, isn't it?  Just got to appreciate what we have & not what we've lost. I can smell your strawberry jam all this way, Janie, & makes my mouth water! I don't really make "jam" but when I have more strawberries than I can eat I put them in a bowl & whip them with the mixer, add plenty of sugar & cook down. I don't use anything to thicken except the sugar but it tastes wonderful on buttered toast.  :eat:

Phyllis, I am north of the river, the bike path is on the other side but I can ride my bike on my street to busy 21st & have sidewalks to ride on until I reach the bike paths. I can travel those all over town & will give it a go as soon as I get time to practice a little on my dead end street. The couple next door is having a garage sale so not a good time to be whizzing around. Our zoo gets lots of praise so thanks to your brother & wife for their part.

Larry, I don't do any banking online, I know it's crazy to keep all my passwords on a Word Pad, & did print it off once, but so many changes since so I never deleted the original & remind myself that "they gotta be desperate if they come after me". When I shop Amazon I use gift cards & the credit card I used at first is years out of date. I don't even check my medical records online. I don't trust the "black side" of computer anything. Glad you have realized how neat it is to just do what you want, when you want! Wish I had your will power to be organized, I have a bad habit of bumping into another project & taking off in a different direction, forgetting what I had started. I'll worry about it tomorrow...  My daughter did bring me a small book for passwords.. a Louis Vuitton to match the purses & tote she gave me. I hated to write in it since passwords have to be changed so often. She loves that stuff & just recently bought the big LV steamer trunk for her family room, sort of coffee table. Gorgeous, she can afford it, has worked hard to get those things. All 3 worked their way through college & I'm proud of them, nothing was handed to them... and they still love us.

Amy, my poor little Encore has been running around with the check engine light on since I pulled out of the dealer's parking lot when they changed oil several weeks ago. Just have not had time to take it in, pretty sure not a serious problem (it's their fault). You do make me feel guilty taking such good care of your vehicle. :P

Cats have had their "midnight snack" early & laying around the pool. Tom started his howling so I looked to see what was in "their space". That black & white feral I call Tuxedo was creeping up to see if there was anything to eat. I didn't walk them down to the river to put out leftovers so guess that is who has been eating them. Now & then I see it laying in the pool area with the others, like I won't notice an extra cat. The lady down the street said she has tried to encourage it to come eat at her house so I am not trying to feed it here. I can't bring myself to throw food in the trash that some animal can eat, but do take it down to the river & not feed near the house.

It is cool again tonight, got the door wide open but screen shut. The cats recognize & keep an eye on me all the time. When I go to the bedroom they move over to that area & watch through the sliding doors. No houses behind so I don't close the drapes, don't walk around with lights on, either. I do have dusk to dawn lights that burn all night so the pool area is always bright. I'm comfortable even with the sliding door open for fresh air because there are 2 fences someone would have to get over before getting to my door, & that Ruger with it's lazer is right with me. All of the sliding doors have an extra sliding storm door so anyone breaking in would have to go through a series of 3 doors (including screen) to get inside. For sure I would hear that noise, besides the new gates on the pool area are tricky to open & padlocks on the outside fence gates. Might say "over kill" but all the safety features were in place since we were broken into the year after we moved here 30 years ago. That's my story.

Much too long but not going to delete.... Sweet dreams to all and to all a good night!  Love ya... Shirley

ANOTHER good day for my Dad💞💞

I smiled when I read all the sweet comments about Dad, and then when I showed him, he smiled too!  Thank you @ll so much. We had home health here this afternoon....one RN and the OT nurse.  They were both amazed at how well he is doing, especially for his 95 years of age.  There main concern is how much weight he has lost and therefore how slim, (SKINNY) he is.  He is 6'1" and weighs 130 pounds.  He is eating pretty well now so hopefully he can put a bit of weight on.

Bob spent the day working on Dads finances and figuring out how to sell some of his stock that is in Dad and Mom's trust. I thought mom would have been taken off the ownership of the stock years ago! But she is not so lots of extra due diligence is needed.

Son Mark drove to Sacramento yesterday and picked out their new home today and got it all signed sealed and delivered.  He drove back to Paso Robles tonight and they will start packing for there move in a few days.

Congratulations on your new stove, JANE.  How exciting for you!

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

Rain here and again tomorrow and Sun. we may grow gills if it doesn't stop!!  Makes it difficult for farmers to get on their fields and I noticed on farmer had started to cut hay yesterday.

We had a good day yesterday, I managed to get some jeans and tops . This was a needed to do shop, as it had been a while, shopping for clothes is no fun.

Today is back to the chiropractor and we shall take the day as it comes after that.

Smiling here after reading all your post.

Jenny, I also smiled when I read your post. You tell Dad he has a lot of people rooting and praying for him. He doesn't want us all ganging up on him either, especially when one packs a Ruger!!

Shirley, I also don't do on line banking and if I buy anything  I get a prepaid credit card and use it. I take the vehicle in Mon nd hope when I get it back everything is fixed.

Jane, that stove will know what work is, as you will be cooking up a storm on it. Our strawberries are not ready yet.

Phyliss, picked up some corn yesterday and will try it in the IP. Will let you know how it turns out.

Larry, one can see in your posts that you are feeling better. You are in complete control of your surroundings ,everything within grasp and ease of use.

Joy, that is good news on the xrays. If you have any extra sunshine push a little this way please.

Gloria, hope you are ok.  We also have black bears here , you just made me aware that maybe I should put my compost out ,maybe I should bury it.

Lloyd, hope all went well with you  yesterday.

Take care everyone and enjoy your day.

Got up this morning and took the doggies out.  When we came in, I walked into the kitchen and there sat 10 beautiful half pint jar of strawberry jam just waiting to be put away or used.  One isn't quite full so it's slated for immediate use.  It'll go into the fridge so I don't forget to use it.

Doggies and I are all fed and they're resting under my feet.  When I finish here, I'll go make the bed and get ready to face my day.  It's gonna be a busy one.  First a wrap up for the seminar I attended a couple of weeks ago, then a stop at WM to replace a few canning items that have become damaged and maybe get a hair cut if the right girl is working.  Everyone thinks I don't have any ears any more.  Then home to see to the doggies needs and my own and get ready to work a 3 to 7 shift.  He was nice enough to change that one so I could get to the seminar this morning.

JENNY, I look forward to your "DAD" reports every day.  I'm so happy to hear that he's doing so well.  I'm sure part of it is your presence.  He obviously loves you very much!

I wish you all a good day full of whatever pleases you most.  Make it your own in every way.

Great to read the good news about your dad this morning, Jenn.... Three cheers for him!  :cheer:  :cheer:  :cheer:  I also turned in the bonds that still had Cas' name on them thinking it would be more trouble for the kids. That felt so good I turned in the bonds just in MY name since all CDs are "pay on death" for the 3 kids. Tell your dad that "a chocolate malt to gain weight is NOT BAD MEDICINE!" Years ago I bought a little malt maker & Cas loved it when I would fix him one with just ice cream, milk & a squirt of Hershey's chocolate (or strawberry) syrup. Bet it might even taste better if ice cream put into one of the choc or strawberry protein drinks. My dad's favorite food was a chocolate malt & French fries. Glad the CA kids found a new home & ready to pack up. When that little one gets in school it won't be so easy to move so hope they find their perfect place before then. Such a lot of work, don't envy them. We didn't think anything about it when that age, right?

Need to take trash out to the street. They won't pick up at the garage door except for one neighbor that was "grandfathered". I need to take my loppers & cut off the blooming stalks of yucca, they are starting to drop & so messy. All my lawn guy does is ride the mower & trim a little. He only charges $40 a week but some months there are 5 weeks & seems like a lot. When 2 of them work it takes about 15 minutes & this is just their part time earnings. Anyway, I need the exercise.

Cats had breakfast & back out to watch the sun come up. Cloudy this morning & nippy, feels good to me. ONWARD!!!

Oops, two of you snuck in while I was typing. Amy, hope you are okay, you really do time & a half every single day so hope the chiropractor is "maintenance" & not bad?  And, Jane, does it seem our hair grows faster in the spring? I looked in the mirror this morning & realize I am shaggy but have trimmed a little every time I wash it. Need a good going over, I guess. Guess I need to check out local strawberries, this is the season, isn't it?  I remember my aunt saying that she "looked for bargains the week before Memorial Day because stores didn't want to hold them over during a holiday week end." Trouble is, "they" switch holidays around & not sure when that day was 65 years ago.  ::)

It is such a beautiful morning here.  I keep getting distracted and find myself gazing out the window at the sun and the woods and the patterns they are making.  Endlessly changing designs...Mother Nature is such a good artist!

My ears have disappeared, too, Jane.  I am trying to find someone who will cut my hair the way I want it.  I love my salon owner who has taken care of me for years but it is getting increasingly difficult to park near her shop and get myself in to the building.  It isn't very user friendly for old ladies who don't walk well and have to use a rollator.  I'll miss her a lot but the body dictates what can be done now.

I got a lot of fruit and fresh vegs. at the store yesterday and will probably get something in to the Pot later this morning.  I don't can anything but do like to make up a lot of delicious things that I can store in the frig and freezer.  GLORIA, my mom used to put some red hots in her homemade applesauce and the family loved it.  I haven't thought about that for a long time and wasn't even sure I could find red hots these days.  I do put in a LOT of cinnamon because it just wouldn't be applesauce without cinnamon, would it?

Amy, how did the corn turn out?  I thought it was delicious and so easy without having that big pot of boiling water going on the stove.  I am always worried about carrying a pot of scalding water from the stove to the sink.  It is pretty heavy for me to lift and David isn't always available to carry it for me.

I hear David up so I must be off to get my breakfast so I won't be in his way when he wants to fix his.  He is so good to fix his own breakfast and help in the kitchen by doing nearly all of the after-meal cleanup.  He is much more methodical on how he loads the dishwasher than I am.   I usually just want to shove it in there and get it out of the way.   ::)

Take care and I hope it is as beautiful where you are as it is here this morning.

Good morning everyone, catching up on yesterday's posts. Rain all day and I was on the couch most of the day with my heating pad. Not up  to sitting here so did not even turn the PC on.

LARRY  your post on the 12th sounded so upbeat and great. So good to read you are doing so much better. As has been said before, God hears and answers prayers.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link to Shirley's photo.

SHIRLEY  glad someone is enjoying your pool.

AMY  yesterday there was a black bear sighing reported in this town.

Think I will go lay on the couch for awhile.
Have a good day.

Great growing season, though although
not good for people who have to work

It is always something.

Have a good day,  Everyone.

Good morning.  It is trying real hard to clear up. It is supposed to be a nice day, but still a little chilly for this time of the year.  I was so cold when I first woke up.  I am trying hard not to turn the heat back on.  So, I do a little bit of shivering for a while.  But, it does seem to warm up during the day,  Supposed to be a nice week end until rain rolls in Sunday evening.

I am hoping to get to a nice produce store and farm tomorrow.  The plan is for my grandson to take me, along with his 4 little ones.  It is Addy's 7th birthday this coming week, so, since I won't see her, we will stop for lunch at a local place that makes their own ice cream.  A chocolate fudge sundae sure sounds good.

The farm has a nice playground so the kids can play while I shop.  I have never been to this place, but I have seen on their website that they grow a lot of hydroponic greens.  And, they claim that they will stay fresh for over a week. I am looking forward to some good salad fixings and some local strawberries and sweet cherries.

Gloria, I usually will go back to my nice recliner after I first get up, but decided against that this morning.  If I stay up when I first wake up, I find I can get a lot done before I get so tired.  I still have some dishes in the sink to clean up and then get dressed.

Nothing special going on today.

Jennie, I am so glad that your Dad is doing so much better.  I know that makes you feel so relieved.

Jane, I know you are enjoying your new stove.  Always  nice to get something new to make life easier.  Your strawberry jam sounds good, but as much as I love strawberries, I just prefer other kinds of jam or jelly.  I think peach is my favorite.

Amy, good luck on your trip to town.  Hope you don't run into the black bear.  I do wish I could send you some warmer weather when it finally warms up and stays awhile.

Phyllis, I still have not gotten around to using my Instant Pot. I just keep putting it off.  I really am not afraid to use it,,, it is just that I hear so many pros and cons about using it.  Just when I get my nerve up to start making something, I read all these horror stories of how things do not turn out.  I guess one of these days, I will have to bite the bullet.  My son just loves his.  I think I need to see someone actually make something that turns out. I know there are loads of videos that will walk you through the steps.

Shirley, love the picture of your little feathered friends in the pool.

Larry,  I continue to enjoy your very encouraging messages. I am so happy that you are feeling so much better.  Keep up the good work.

I will wish everyone here and those in come in later, a very good day.  And, hoping that you all will have a great weekend.

Joy

Hi everyone on this June 14th with another month about half over.  We are to have a sunny and mild day with it getting only into the mid-80/s.  I just realized that we are only about 1 week away from the official start of summer.

I am up early again this morning and it looks like it will be a great day.  I just ate my breakfast, including a fresh South Carolina peach, some watermelon that some nice folks brought to us, a nutritional drink and the nutritional bar.  Then I topped it all with a big handful of pills. The Hospice nurse is suppose to come today for her weekly visit and the housekeeper will be here a little before 10 am.

Yesterday a couple from out Sunday School class came and visited with us and also brought us three delicious chicken dinners from our local Wifesavers Restaurant.  Pat and I ate ours at dinnertime and Scott came out after work and enjoyed his.  He did several chores for us while here like emptying the trash, unloading the dishwasher and I don't know what else.  He is coming back over this morning to finish packaging and labeling the ramps we are returning today along with one other package to return to Amazon.  As far as I know that ends the returns for now.

The man who was here is a lay minister and tells lots of stories from his childhood.  We gave him one yesterday when just before they arrived Pat turned on the garbage disposal and she had dropped a peach pit down it and it locked up.  As soon as the couple came in Pat said she needed a hand and the couple pitched in and got the disposal working again. That must have been a first and I am sure the man will be able to make a good story out of the event even though it was the wife who did much of the work.

I did do the research on the two new tires that we put on Scott's car earlier this month to see if we could find a better price and the Citi card refunds the difference.  However, after spending a bit of time trying to find a better online price I found the garage had charged the best price so that effort was scraped as a waste of time.

I did write to Oldiesman yesterday about us being able to post photos or graphics into our discussion posting and he told me that was just fine as we no longer have problems with limited and expensive memory on a server.  This will make our postings more interesting.  Logic told me this should no longer be a problem. I see Oldiesman has also commented on this.

Jane, glad your chiropractor brought you relief. Glad you like your new stove.

Shirley, you so right that life is good.  My nurse was here a few minutes ago and think she will be my permanently assigned nurse and I like her just as I do the aid who assists me. I wondered why I needed to be using oxygen when my count is 96 0r 98 and the nurse said I didn't need to unless I am in pain or real short of breath.  Pat has gone over to Walmart to get me a twin size comforter for the bed as have been using  a double size bed spread and drowning in covers.  It makes sense to actually see what you are getting as ordering over the Internet.  If you are not keeping financial passwords and that type of thing on WordPad you should be OK.  I am just about to get everything organized the way I want it.

Amy, thanks for the compliment on having things in charge.  I do know how to plan and then get the plan executed.

I seem to keep falling asleep so going to sign off for today.

The day turned out just lovely..sun is shining!
I need to go one more time to the chiropractor and that should be it. ..I hope. Then we may work on a maintenance schedule.

Phyllis, the corn was delicious!! Love doing it in the Instant Pot and will do it from now on in there.

Have a friend stopping in to pick up her chicken chests..plus a few other things that she may not be aware of :)) They cook the chicken for the dogs.

Jane, did you cook up a storm today?

I don't know if this will work.  There are no directions in those boxes above but when I slid the cursor over them, words showed up above the boxes.  We shall see!

AMY, I didn't cook up a storm today because I had to go out in the morning and then I worked and I came home exhausted.  But I sure stared at it a lot and made a lot of plans!

Phyllis, I'm the one who mentioned the cinnamon redhots!  I know we have them a WM and I've seen the at the other two grocery stores in tow.  My daughter told me she got them at the TX WM when she wanted them.  So I think they're all over.

JOY!  get off your indecision and get that pot out and start using it.  I need something to make me ask for one for Christmas and I'm taking notes.

LLOYD!  Get in that RV!  Get Nancy in there and take off!

LARRY Keep up the good work!  You're my inspiration!

Does anyone else need a scolding?  if they do, it will have to wait.  I'm just plain too tired to do any more yelling!

Now I'm going to go become a vegetable.  I'm tired up the gazoo!
