Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend. There's pecan rolls to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely graphic creation which we are using this week.

Food For Thought

T he State of Today's Church
(By Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.)
[Taken from A Birmingham Jail Cell Letter to Clergymen)

...In deep disappointment, I have wept over the laxity of the church. But be assured that my tears have been tears of love. There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love. Yes, I love the church; I love her sacred walls. How could I do otherwise? I am in the rather unique position of being the son, the grandson and the great-grandson of preachers. Yes, I see the church as the body of Christ. But, oh! How we have blemished and scarred that body through social neglect and fear of being nonconformists.

There was a time when the church was very powerful. It was during that period when the early Christians rejoiced when they were deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed. In those days the church was not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society. Wherever the early Christians entered a town, the power structure got disturbed and immediately sought to convict them for being "disturbers of the peace" and "outside agitators." But they went on with the conviction that they were "a colony of heaven," and had to obey God rather than man. They were small in number but big in commitment. They were too God-intoxicated to be "astronomically intimidated." They brought an end to such ancient evils as infanticide and gladiatorial contest.

Things are different now. The contemporary church is often a weak, ineffectual voice with an uncertain sound. It is so often the arch supporter of the status quo. Far from being disturbed by the presence of the church, the power structure of the average community is consoled by the church's silent and often vocal sanction of things as they are.

But the judgment of God is upon the church as never before. If the church of today does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authentic ring, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century. I am meeting young people every day whose disappointment with the church has risen to outright disgust.

Thought of the Day

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm just marking my space for later.  I have things to do to get ready for church.  It went down into the mid 30s overnight and the high is predicted for the low 60s.  Not too bad for a high in April but I was hoping for more 70s weather.  I'll be back later to see what Everyfriend is up to today.

the picture that goes with this post paste with it. but you can figure it out.those of us born before 1955.
It is about a virsue (computer use )

I thought you would want to know about this e-mail virus.

Even the most advanced programs from Norton or McAfee cannot take care of this one.

It appears to affect those who were born prior to 1955.

Symptoms:

1. Causes you to send the same e-mail twice.

2. Causes you to send a blank e-mail!

3. Causes you to send e-mail to the wrong person.

4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you.

5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment.

6. Causes you to hit "SEND" before you've finished.

7. Causes you to hit "DELETE" instead of "SEND."

8. Causes you to hit "SEND" when you should "DELETE."

IT'S CALLED
THE "C-NILE VIRUS."

Have I already sent this to you?

Or did you send it to me?

Good morning, Amy.  I haven't heard a thing from Gloria.  I imagine she's about ready to pull her hair out.  I sure do miss her.

Janie--Good morning.  Hopefully it'll get a bit warmer there.  Forecasters here say we will hit 90°.  We'll see you again after church.

Good morning, Lloyd.  That cobbler sounds good.  Let me know when you are making it, and I will fire up my broom and be there pronto.:)  Thanks for the chuckle.

Hi everyone.  It appears we will be having a lovely day only getting up to 81 degrees this afternoon.  Today is Church Day and pretty sure we will go out to lunch following.  Yesterday turned out to be pretty busy.  I spent at least two hours on the phone with Comcast and was finally advised to take my Gateway box back and get another one, which I did.  I installed it and got all the settings on the computers and TV set and hoped things would be fine.  However, we had the same dropout problem as we tried to watch a movie last night so not sure I accomplished anything.  Guess I will ask for a technician to come out and see if they can accomplish anything.  I also went to Lowe's and exchanged one of my baskets that didn't look well and got another, which is a bright red New Guinea Impatiens plant, a tomato vine cage and some chemical to chase away bugs.  Then on my way back from Comcast I stopped at the plant nursery and got two beautiful hanging baskets for our porch porch and three different herbs to plant.

Hal, this is the only HOA we have been in that seems to enforce much of anything.  However, have a new HOA management company so yet to see what may happen.  Our old neighborhood had one but no code enforcement beyond contacting the county if yards got too high or a car was parked in a yard, which were things against the county ordinances.

Kelly, would this be a replacement car or a second car for you?

Joan, when we were at the attorney's office for the closing on this home, the Agent, who is also the builder's wife, asked me if I would serve as president of the HOA.  I politely declined as I must control the stress in my life.  Our neighbor lady, across the street agreed to be president but resigned about 3 months later saying it was more than she could handle.  We still have a board but the Management company should take on the brunt of the problems.

Mycheal, I think many of us here have volunteered in the past and then found a time when we needed to cut back or stop volunteering.

Lloyd, what a blessing that your granddaughter survived the accident but shame on the truck driver not staying at the scene and talking with her and exchanging insurance information.  If she remember the name of the of the truck line they can probably identify who was driving.

Wishing EveryFriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good morning, Larry.  What a nuisance when we have problems with parts of our computer set ups.  I know you place looks lovely with all of those flowers.  Those positions are thankless--unless you like to deal with complainers.

Lloyd--I, too, neglected to tell you that I was VERY glad your granddaughter survived the accident.

Callie--Good morning.  I miss those icons, too.

Larry, I have found when you do work in a club or organization that they tend to just keep piling on until you are covered up with more than you want to do.  You really have no time to enjoy the activities yourself.

I do a couple of activities within the church but refuse to take on more.

Got to run.

Jeanne,  I'm referring to the ones for which we had to click a link underneath the ones we see at the top of the preview page.   Most of them had some kind of motion. a chicken dancing, a dog running back and forth, a chef stirring a cake, a stick figure walking - plus things like balloons, a "Happy Birthday" banner, an ice cream cone, etc.

Do they perhaps mean the animated emotion cons such as the dancing chicken or line person or  birthday balloons from before?

I see Callie has answered my question. The ones you were able to use if you clicked on "More."

Good morning all, I too miss the "More" action cartoons, you could almost write a sentence just using the cartoons...all of them.

It should be a lovely day in Stanton, high of 73. I will go down for services at the Chapel at 10 a.m. then on to lunch at the big dining room, then home for the rest of the day. Hopefully to clean out my other desk where I still have a storage of small items that need to find a residence.

Had a really good nights sleep after our entertainment last night. I hope this gentleman is invited back again soon. Everyone enjoyed him and he seemed to really enjoy entertaining us.

Gloria just called me.  First she asked me to ask folks NOT to send her any emails.  And second, her grandson was there yesterday and worked on her new (not even 3 mos. old) computer for a long time.  He couldn't get it to do a thing so called HP and was on the phone with them for a long time.  Still nothing.  Soo--they are going to send her a FED EX label to return the computer.  They told her grandson she'd be without the computer for about 3 weeks.  She's discouraged/frustrated.

Bis, oh Gosh ! Poor Gloria, I can associate with her frustrations. I think I would demand a new computer from those who sold it to her. She paid for one that worked not a repaired one. That company would be on my black list for sure.

Good morning, a beautiful clear blue sky day, with little wind.  A little on the cool side, after the last few days, but it is still April.

Joan, it is still early, so I will go out in the sun and enjoy coffee and roll, thanks.  I saw the ground hog, walking around on my deck this morning, I think he is the one digging in my newly plante plants., there is dirt all over.

Lloyd, I am so happy to see your GD is alright after the accident.  Shame on that truck driver, for not staying with her.

June, good for you doing the twist.  Glad to see you are feeling better

I sure miss Gloria, hope she get her computer fixed soon.  I bet she is tearing her hair out.
She is so faithful, to write and interesting post everyday.

Jackie, hope you keep feeling better.

I did a lot of volunteering  when I retired I was so bored staying home.  I like working at the library, and Okeenos, where we saved seals, sea birds, turles etc.  I also made reservations for whale watching. I still write for the Bark, our park news paper, that comes out every two months.

Larry your yard is going to look lovely with all your plantings.

Thank you for the news regarding Gloria.

It might have been better if they had sent a replacement computer instead of the one she is returning.  And if not three months old, I would  have thought it will be in still or guarantee or warranty.

Re, Gloria, oh how I sympathise over the long loss of her computer, having gone through similar weeks myself....I was only wondering about Gloria this morning, thinking when was the last time she posted.....knowing our Gloria, she wont be happy with this company, any more than we were, are, happy with the one we have to be using....BT are still working on our compensation....

June--I would have asked for a brand new computer AND an upgrade for the inconvenience.

Linedancer--Those ground hogs love to eat plants.  Around here the rabbits chew them up.

Thanks, Jeanne Lee.

Sandy--I, too, enjoyed those extra icons.

Kelly--I agree with your thoughts about a replacement computer.

Amy--Guess many of us agree about a replacement computer.  Will there be some cobbler and cinnamon buns in the "hidey hole"?

Vanilla-Jackie--Glad you feel better today.  I know you were without a computer when you moved, so you know Gloria's frustration.

Seven years ago I bought a computer, HP, from Staples.  It quit completely after only about a month.  I had purchased a three year Staples maintenance so I took it back to Staples for repair.  I was told it had to be returned to the factory and the repair would be at least 3 weeks.  I said that was not acceptable and I would need to replace it.  They agreed to take the HP back and give me the full price against another computer.  I got a Toshiba for about $60 more and it's still running great.   I know people who swear by HP but I've never had any luck with any of their products.

Poor Gloria!  I know what I'd be doing if I were without a computer for so long...and it wouldn't be pretty!

I came home from church and put away the groceries I picked up on the way and then had a fashion show.  I'm trying to decide what to wear to the wedding rehearsal dinner.  I have have to invite my daughter over for a fashion show.

I haven't decided what to do with the rest of the day but I'll find something to get into.  Have a nice day, Everyfriend!

We had a good service this morning, a guest speaker from the Gideons. They do marvelous works. Then I had dinner with three other residents..interesting ladies all, with lots of reminiscing, the we all gathered for another short service given by the Lutherans. Now I am home and getting sleepy, so I will listen to the body and go take a nice nap.

I made two more batches of dog food this afternoon and I have most of what my "doggie lover" will need while I'm away in May.  I have enough for 9 days in the freezer and I'll leave the rest for the other 3 days in the fridge for her to use at the beginning.  Now I have to begin cleaning the house so she doesn't think I'm a lazy, do-nothing old lady.

And I bought a new screen for the door so I can leave it open for the doggies to come and go as they please.  The yard is fenced and they are pretty good about going out when the have to (or when there's something out there that just NEEDS to be barked at.  So I guess I'll get at putting that up first thing tomorrow.

I've also squeezed in a nap so I'm ready for something else.  Maybe I'll cook something that I can eat all week.  And maybe I'll just get a cup of coffee and have one of Amy's cinnamon buns.  They look delicious!  Thank you Amy!

I'll be back later!  Enjoy your time!

June--Nice you were able to attend two church services.  It's great when you're able to join other residents for a meal.

Janie--How thoughtful that you prepare all the meals for your sitter to have while you are gone.  You can install a new screen door yourself?  I'm impressed.

The meals are for the Casey to feed the dogs.  I get fresh fruit for snacks for her.  I think she eats at home with her parents.  Maybe she has lunch here.

The screen is not a door.  It one of those screens that hangs in the doorway.  Anyone can do that.  You slip a tension rod through the slot at the top, unscrew the tension so it's tight and....voila!  However, this one has a slight glitch.  You put some kind of permanent hook on top of the door frame and then there are loops that go over them.  I still have the old tension rod so I may see if it fits through the loop thingies and use it that way.  That's why I'm waiting until tomorrow.  I'm like Scarlett O'Hara...."I'll think about that tomorrow"!

Bis, our Janie amazes me at all she can do. She's a little power tool built into a human body.Bis they have prayer services and Bible studies scattered throughout the week. The second on today was put on by the Lutheran Church, just a short Communion service.

Janie, what ingredients do you use for your "home-made" dog food. I'll bet anything a human could eat it and enjoy it.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of April 24
Post by: JaneS on April 24, 2016, 07:17:27 PM
June, the dog food starts with a pre-mix that I get from a place called EARTH ANIMAL.  It was put together by a Dr. Robert Harvey who is a real live Holistic Vet.  It has peas, carrots, oatmeal, barley, green beans and other stuff that I don't remember without looking at the bag.  You reconstitute it with boiling water. Add olive oil or some other natural oil and protein (turkey, chicken, fish venison, lamb, soy whatever you want and you change it from time to time.  It is all human grade ingredients and I'm sure humans could eat it.  I've never tasted it but it's odd you should mention it today because I was just thinking while making it, if this was all I had, I wouldn't starve because I could probably eat it.

Of course, I didn't.  I ate the turkey meatloaf and scalloped potatoes with a little applesauce on the side.

Jane, aha, I was quite sure the dog food you make could be ingested by a human being. Most of our little critters are more human than those that walk on two legs. My hopeful prayer would be that ALL God's four legged critters could be as fortunate as your two little buddies.

CHUCKLES

At the Zoo

On a trip to the zoo, I made a casual stroll by the cage of a laughing hyena. A young man was leaning over the bar at the edge of the cage, whispering something in the animal's direction.

As I stepped closer, I heard him say, "Did you hear the one about..."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm thinking about going shopping today.  I need some "church clothes".  I really hate clothes shopping any more.  I wish stuff would just stay in style...or all of my stuff would "come back".  I'm really downsizing my wardrobe...getting rid of things I don't wear and I'm being firm about it.  But summer is coming and I need some "church/out to dinner" clothes.

I also NEED a haircut.  I'm thinking about doing that today but I'll probably x that out.  I really want to do that closer to the wedding.

Oh well!  I'll let you know what works out.  Have a lovely day, Everyfriend.

Amy, thank you.....yes I am very Impressed with him....He was easy to talk with, explained everything in detail, very knowledgeable....So glad he picked up on Benji's teeth, tartar and gums.....Benji will be booked in for teeth cleaning, and depending on what else he finds, may take teeth out....I trust this vet, he answered all my questions, put me at eaze, especially when I brought up sedation and Benji's age, 13, on would it be safe to put him under....He had already checked Benji over, re, his heart, told me all checks will be done before going ahead, re, his heart, and will only go ahead once he is satisfied....I told vet Giles, why on earth did my other vet never pick up on the state of his teeth I will never know...Oh I had mentioned it in the past about his teeth but I never got any response on many of his annual check-up visits...This vet to me seems very thorough, straight, and trustworthy, also easy to get on with, to talk to, he even has compassion....think he could tell the fondness between myself and the dogs, as coming across as warm, by the way I hug them and talk to them as the vet is doing his examination and putting the dreaded needle in.....
.........................................
Myself and R soon registered with our new Council to do postal voting as soon as we moved here.....a couple of voting papers had dropped through our door last week, one for how we would like our District Council to be run, we have two choices...baring in mind we have no clue as to how it has been performing, re, vote choice number one, how they run it now, or to go with vote choice number two, re, being a change to how it is run now....Hm, not much to go on......

The other voting paper is on election of Police and Crime Commissioner for our Dorset police...we have a choice of four  names....any one lend me a pin?
............................................
Jane S, sometimes when indecisive, I just go with the flow....Good luck on the choosing of your church/dinner outfit, I know with navy you can always play safe, and navy will never go out of fashion, can always change a belt, a scarf to jazz it up...nor will black, but black for a wedding is a definite no, no....
..........................................
Oh and new vet also checked Benji's anal lump, said it had grown a little from previous vets measurements but this is since a year ago so again he wasn't too concerned...but he did give us the choice that while Benji is under sedation he could do a check to see if it is harmless or cancerous, but whatever he would leave it alone, baring his age, the choice will be ours on whether we want to know...we have both chosen not to know, so it shant be done.....

Good morning, Lloyd.  The sun is out here and weather prediction for next 7 days is HOT and HUMID--90° or above each day.  Thanks for the link.

Amy--Good morning.  Snow??  Oh my--and it's nearly May.  How nice of you to give your time and talent to help a friend.

Good morning, Janie.  I used to love shopping for clothes, but like you, I really dislike it now.  Good luck finding things you like.

Vanilla-Jackie--This new vet sound like a winner--very thorough.  Since you are new there, maybe flipping a coin is the best way to vote (or not voting at all).

Good morning!  I didn't get here yesterday.  It seemed that the day just went by so fast.  Did some cooking and a little playing with graphics on the computer and soon the end of the day was upon me.

Bright sunshine this morning and supposed to be warm.  Maybe I'll get out and do some yard work.......maybe.

Always nice to hear from the other side of the world, Junee.

I'm sorry that Gloria is having so much computer trouble.  I hope if she exchanges for a new one that it will give her no trouble for many years.  I have a Toshiba and it seems to work fine even though I'm not crazy about the keyboard.  I've learned to adapt....most of the time.  ::)  On the other hand, my HP printer that I bought a year ago gives me a headache every time I try to use it.  >:(  Oh well, win a few, lose a few.

I hate clothes shopping, too.  I buy nearly everything on line now and am generally satisfied with what I get.  The "brick and mortar" stores don't cater to the more mature woman and I wouldn't be caught dead in some of things that women are supposed to wear these days.

Make it a good one!

Vanilla-Jackie--Good game plan--if in doubt stay out.

Good morning, Phyllis.   If you opt to do yard w---, do a little at a time.  I had a HP printer for years that gave me good service.  Now I've had a Canon for 8 years, and so far no problems.

Lloyd--I have raggedy house clothes, but when I go out I do put on something decent.

Hi everyone.  I have had a very frustrating couple of hours trying to get my laser printer to print what I want and not so to sleep all the time.  What should be simple isn't anymore.  Then the other Inkjet printer doesn't want to work.  Our son will be over later this afternoon and I will see if I can get him to get them set up so when you send something to the printer it actually works.  We had a very nice Sunday.

Today I will go to a meeting in a little bit and then play it by ear.   As I read through the postings there were comments I could have made but am passing for today as they were not important.

Phyllis:  Regular department stores have the most sleazy dresses and in either black or red - which is too strong of a color for me.  They use cheap thread too - unless you go to a high-end store.  Too stressful to even look anymore.

Lloyd:  I am sorry to have missed your post about your granddaughter being in an accident.  It just makes your heart stop hearing the news.  You have a great day yourself!

It looks like the 2nd. part of our street will be worked on today and we did park in a lot last night.  The squeaky wheel gets the oil - so says our wise and elderly neighbor.  She called the dept. of transportation and "went right to the top" stating our limbo case of waiting a full week after being told it would be over in two days work.  Hurrah for her.

My 101 year young auntie in Minnesota is talking about the Twins baseball games -- she used to phone her 105 year young sister and they would discuss baseball every night.  We hope to visit her this summer and also Don's cousin is almost 100 and heads up activities in an apartment building in Duluth.  Amazing stuff!

Good Morning Everyone!

Jackie, hope your visit to the vet's isn't too expensive..  Teeth work on dogs here can run you a lot of money.  I was looking my dog over this morning while having coffee on the patio and boy is she getting grey around the muzzle and ears.  She has gotten really affectionate here recently, like something is bothering her, but I cant see anything wrong.

Lloyd you sound like me, I have a couple of suits and even a tuxedo I had to buy some years back for a wedding but I never wear them, no occasions have come up, well I did get a suit cleaned and pressed for my granddaughters wedding, but then got sick.  I usually just stick with a pair of blue jeans and casual shirts.  Church I wear dress slacks and nice shirt, no tie.  Few men wear ties in this part of the world anymore.  Things cost you an arm and leg anymore.

Sun I saw where the Rangers got swept.........

weather here is cloudy and feels and looks like rain, but  'they' say not much of a chance.  Suppose to get up 90 today, but I doubt it.  It is nice and cool out.

Good Morning dear hearts, I woke in the wee hours but dozed off and on, now I have done the time with God, the time with the body therapy, and enjoying the first cup of coffee. It will be another relaxed day, the only thing planned is to go down for lunch/dinner (lunch time, but my main meal of the day). and on to see a movie at 1:30, "Letters to God". No big names, but we will give it a try.

Sun, I would surely look into the voice thing if I were in your position. I recall when Gloria had her hand surgery She used the left hand to type, and did quite well, but the voice thing may be the better solution. Kelly should be able to give you more information.

Janie and Bis, I have lost all interest in make up,  jewelry and clothes. All I care about is something comfortable for the seasons..cool for summer, but still cover up my wrinkles, and warm for winter. My one vice is Charlie cologne. All my "huggers" seem to enjoy it. It feels good to hear, "OH, you smell so good".

Phyllis, all my days seem to disappear too quickly. I sleep away quite a bit of them. I'm with you, I always look forward to Junee popping in on us from "down under". The time and season differences amaze me.

Carol, it is so encouraging to hear about the ages of you relatives. I grew up in Mn. but I'm quite sure that has nothing to do with age length…However…..going through some of the hard times and bad weather,  did make some folks stronger.

Hal, the best dressed men I have ever seen are those in Uniform.

Time to go hunt up some breakfast….back later.  June

Halkel, I do have pet Insurance, the one I have is probably the most expensive, ( Petplan, ) but it does cover dogs for life, plus covers all our needs, re, cancer treatment.....Only downside, as a dog reaches senior, the excess goes up, and of course annually, so does the premium....we will of course put in a claim, but probably will only get a third of the money back....maybe not even that, depending on work done...

That is the thing, isn't it? dogs can't tell us what's wrong...it is down to us to pick up the signs...
......................................
Re, clothes buying, I now do everything online, and have now fathomed out which clothes companies to stay with and which ones to ditch...
.....................................
Just back from a 45 minute walk, yes even I cant believe I have been out and about that long...Ok just a walk down our parkhomes site slope, stopping off to a friend who has MS, but he and wife wasn't in, then a u-turn through a rugged pathway, not very pleasant with my rollator, worried about damaging the wheels, but I plondered on till the end, then a little uphill but gave up, too muddy, such a shame as I would have had a sea view, well so R tells me, as he has done this walk with the dogs several times...Then back, uphill towards home, went past my home, uphill on the road towards out, stopped admired the vast view, then back down again to home....my leg felt pretty good apart from one spasm...first time walking out for a long time, must be over a week....so now quite chuffed with myself.....Of course R would have managed that walk alone, in less than half the time...... R does come with me, walking along at far length in case I need to grab his arm, or need help on lifting my walker..

Angelface,   I love your hair cut!
And your specks!   Very nice picture!!

I bought me some new hair cutting and thinning
scissors from Amazon which arrived today
just in time for me to give me my
Spring hair cut.

They did a great job, including shearing of
part of my knuckle on my left hand.
Not good since I take blood thinners.

But I manged to get the job mostly
done before I had to stop and insure that
I wouldn't bleed to death.

Oh my,  those new shears are so sharp
and do such a good job of cutting
my hair.    to be put away and
NEVER be used for cutting anything else.

My finger is ok (actually I cut two
knuckles),  but the worse one is ok
and I am watching it carefully.

Won't be washing dishes for a while..
They warned me that the scissors were
very,  very sharp.  But of course,
I got careless...    Still,  All is well
and my new cut is almost all done!

Sandy, Thanks!  Just before retirement, I was sitting in a meeting with other managers listening to someone from the company offices discuss new ways to motivate staff. I had been increasingly concerned because this man kept studying me as if I had egg on my face. Finally, he turned to me and quizzically asked, "Do you know your glasses match your hair?"  :)

I have a pair of those scissors and yes do not use them for anything else!

I did go shopping and the first store I went in, I tried on 6 shirts and 3 pairs of pants.  I bought 4 of the shirts.  On to the next store.  I tried on 5 pairs of pants and one shirt.  I bought the shirt and 2 pairs of pants.  I'm pretty sure all of the shirts go with all of the pants so I can mix and match and I don't have to go to church every Sunday looking the same.  I know God doesn't care but people do notice.

And it wiped me out!  I really don't enjoy shopping but I've tried getting things on line and I always end up sending them back.  I don't like pants that hang low and I don't like pants that I can't wear a belt with.  I have my father's hips...none!

Now I'm going to answer the "call of the couch" and have a nap before I have to go get TLH.

Bis, I'm pretty sure your "House Clothes" are NOT raggedy!  Maybe a bit on the old side like mine, and maybe a bit shabby, but NOT raggedy!

And I don't remember what Lloyd was wearing the day we met but he did NOT look raggedy either.  He looked like a gentleman.

As for my clothes choice, comfort, comfort, every time....Out have gone the long pretty summer linen skirts, in have come the maxi jersey skirts, ( oh and everything has to be pull-on waist ) and I am starting to buy some pretty jersey tops to go with my plain old drab grey pair of jersey skirts....washing but no ironing...Cant say the same for R, ok some jersey type polo tops but I have several of his ( non jersey ) trousers just waiting to be ironed....actually been sitting around for weeks, waiting to be ironed...

Good Afternoon,

#2 son-the-landscape-designer and I went OTL and then to his favorite plant place.  I picked colors and he picked plants.  And now my pot garden is planted and new mulch has been spread on all the flower beds.

Had I mentioned that he had built three raised flower beds in my back yard?
He had already planted perennials ( hostas and boxwood in the bed under the windows and pink hawthorn, scarlet creeping phlox, purple verbena, yellow coreopsis and white salvia in the two side ones).
Today, he planted a hydrangea in the middle of the hostas/boxwood and put brightly colored annuals in the two big ceramic pots in the center of the side beds.  He also planted the two pots in the existing front bed.
I have NEVER had flowers like this and can't wait for them to get past the scraggly state and in full bloom.

Wow, is it ever sticky-humid and hot today!  If we don't get storms tonight, we surely will tomorrow.  So I'm doubly happy that the planting was done today.

JaneS,   Hooray for a successful shopping trip!  You'll be all dressed up for your trip to Texas.

Patricia,  I surely do like your picture.  Funny that the fellow noticed that your glasses match your hair.  Did you do that on purpose?

Sandy, OUCH!  Hope your meds don't keep those knuckles from healing quickly.

I don't even want to think about what I would look like if I tried to cut my own hair.  I can't even manage curlers or a curling iron!   :crazy2:

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having a lovely day.

A good Monday afternoon to EVERYFRIEND.

OH my, the problems I have had trying to get in here.....not too sure what was going on, but I had to change my password and start all over again.

JACKIE, I sent you email on Saturday, and thought sure I would hear back from you....  After checking, I must have done something stupid as it is not in my sent file..........guess I won't be getting any answers to it!  Nothing important, just wanted you to know that I was thinking about you and some generalities.  I'd say ol' R better get the ironing board and iron out and get started on his clothes!   Proud of you getting in a nice long walk in.  Glad all went well at the vet and that you are pleased with him.

ANGELFACE, I LOVE your picture.......so nice to see you when I am reading your posts.

SANDY, I am sorry you managed to cut your knuckles with the new shears......of course they are sharp and I am sure you were as careful as you could be, but things do happen.  So do we get a new picture of you and your new do??

I am feeling so badly for GLORIA.  I, too, miss her posts and know that she must be fit to be tied.  Bless her heart.  Sure sad that her grandson was not able to make that darn machine work.

When are you coming home, CAROL??  We do have a chance of snow again in the future.......or so the weather guessers are saying.  I wish for RAIN, and keep the snow up in the mountains!

CALLIE, your new garden and planters sound wonderful..........love that your son takes good care of you.  I LOVE hydrangeas.

Thank you, JOAN, for all of our goodies.  I am sorry you continue to have to deal with the problems after the CC hacking!

LARRY, getting new things like computer and printers sure can cause one a lot of grief.........seems we could just plug them in and get them going without all the stress, but not anymore!

Good for you, JANE, for getting all the clothing shopping done......... I join most of the SS friends in that I do not enjoy shopping one bit any more........use to be fun, now it is a pain!   So happy you found things that you will be happy with.

Guess I had best get going.  They are still working on our home........they flit around to us then to another and then back...........I just want them to be DONE.

Tomorrow is Michele's surgery to remove her port and redo the bowel.  I appreciate prayers...... just want this to go smoothly and get her back to normal again.  She will be in the hospital for three days, so we will be with the children.

I wish you ALL a wonderful rest of your day.

Jenny

Jenny, I will be thinking of you and Michele tomorrow. It's hard for the caregivers as well and for the children even on the "home stretch."

Actually,  my old glasses were brown so the red was my being more vogue or so I thought back then! The glasses were from '10, or at least the frames. New lens a couple of times and now they say I need new frames, so perhaps blue? LOL

Callie your yard does sound lovely. I have mostly indoor trees, ponytail palms shamrocks bromeliads, philodendrons  and different ivies and golden pothos or devil's ivy. I want to plant some herbs this summer,(chives, sweet basil,  cilantro, dill, curled parsley, sweet marjoram); that I have put off for two years. I also purchased this spring, rainbow coleus, lavender, and cat grass for my balcony.  Of course, that doesn't mean it will get done. But I have the plants and soil!

Now I need pots for after the jiffy pots are started and I have this on order so hopefully and a lot of gumption, I'll get it done

I am going to watch the cuts,  especially
the one that cut so much,  to see that it is
healing nicely.     They are covererd up with

Jenny, last emails were 20th, still have them but no Saturdays....

Oh what a relief for Michelle, the long wait is over...I wish her all the very best for her procedure in removing her port...I bet she never thought the day would come, seems such a long time....

Talking of snow, they have mentioned that word for us, for tomorrow, say it will reach the coastal areas...I am hoping they are just referring to a handful of flakes this time of year....Mind you it wouldn't be the first time snow has landed in April...

Callie--I just know your yard is going to be beautiful when all the plants take hold and are in full bloom.

Jenny--I am so happy to hear that Michele will have the reversal done tomorrow and am praying that all goes well.  My nephew had the same surgery about the same time she did, and he's anxious for the reversal but they tell him in won't happen until the end of the summer.

angelface--I don't even attempt planting things.  I have a black thumb and everything I plant dies.

Sandy--When our kids were growing up I cut the whole family's hair.  But, I gave that up years ago.

Vanilla-Jackie--Hopefully, if you get snow it'll be just a few flakes.

Trying to trim my bangs once and when I did get to the shop, the lady told me to "never" try to cut my hair again.  It was pretty bad.   :(    Sandy:  That is lethal - I had to hide scissors from my daughter after she "trimmed" her brothers hair. All three looked ghastly and all I did was to turn my head to fix dinner once - the little Instigator was my name for her.

I feel antsy today waiting to hear when son and DIL arrive in the Phoenix area for a two year job for her - driving two cars from Grand Lake, CO.  It is very windy here - and we and the neighbors are still waiting for road repair after promised a week ago.  Hooray, I was able to download audio books to an iPod.  Listening to a Douglas Preston mystery now.

DD:  We hope to arrive on May 10th.  Late for us but we do want to meet two of the boys for dinner - all are coming for meetings.

Don went to use the exercise area and then to soak in a hot tub.  30 seconds is my time in that tub - it is not my cup of tea.  Otherwise, the pool is kept perfectly nice.

Angel:  Nice picture!  I like to grow dill for fish meals.

A fine day today, weather is a bit windy but cool and fresh and sunny. Just got back from watching the movie and eating a HUGE ice cream bar. It was enough for two or three people. It was a two kleenex movie, but a good lesson for everyone. Title, Letters to God. No well known actors.  Had lunch with three fine ladies and enjoyed it all. Now I am through for the day, other than a couple more walk abouts.

Hi Sun
Just type Dragon Naturally Speaking into Google and it should bring up various sites to read about Voice Recognition as that is what Dragon Naturally Speaking.

And it is rated about the best Voice recognition software.

You use headphones with a microphone to speak in what you what the computer to type as I am doing now.

June, I'm through for the day, too.  Actually, FINISHED is a better word.  When I brought the new clothes home. I needed a place for two shirts and I ended up moving clothes and other things around in three closets, two dressers and an underbed container.  And I'm really NOT finished because if I don't empty the underbed container and refill it it with winter things, I won't have a bed to sleep in.  I do have a rather large box and a comforter and a booster car seat for GOODWILL. I still haven't found my shorts and I think they're in another underbed container that I will NOT take out today!

I had a Jacquie Lawson birthday card from Gloria today.  I wonder where she had to go to send that if her computer is still among the missing.

On Sunday, they always say prayers and Thanksgivings for people who need prayers, (Jenny, they've been praying for Michele) and this past Sunday, they included me among those who were having birthdays this week.  What I didn't expect was that and the close of the service, Father Jim began a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday for me and another gal who has a birthday this week.

Janie, a good rule is if you buy a new item of clothing you discard an older item of the same ilk. It sort of sounds like you have to many areas of storage girl. I get worn out just shopping on line. My "to-do" with Amazon added about 6 months to my aging process. I think..HOPE.. all is straightened out now.

June, I weed when I transfer from season to season.  Living where you do, I guess you don't change over from sweaters and sweatshirts to blouses and tee shirts.  I have clothes that I can't wear in the winter...too cold!  And clothes I can't wear in the summer...too hot!  And with some of my dresser space being taken up by sheets, pillow cases and blankets, I use the underbed plastic storage for things I don't need all summer (or all winter).  It's just the transition that gets a bit hectic.  And I'm having to get ready for summer a lot faster because I need summer clothes for Texas.

Now I'm off to watch some TV through my eyelids and sometime move the stuff off my bed so I can get in it.

Well rather interesting late afternoon.  We were just sitting down for supper, wife had made hamburgers and baked beans and we had had a warning about bad weather in the area but was suppose to miss us to the East.  Anyhow, wife said here comes the rain, wind started picking up, but no rain, just hail.  I had never seen that before, I mean there wasn't a drop of rain, just the hail/  Marble size to a little over quarter size.  Just lasted about 5 minutes, then we got some rain.  But not a lot.  I don't think we got any damage, I hope not.

It is nice to hear some good news about folks health improving.  Lets us just hope this trend continues.

Anyhow, I am off to bed.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweet dreams

Janie, I understand the need for radical seasonal change..I had forgotten that living in such a same season climate as we have we don't need as much…good thing too, I no longer have the space to store stuff.

I am ready for bed also. It has been a long, busy day, and I am pooped. My Gary will be teaching Bible studies tomorrow at our Chapel and I want to be awake for that.

Lloyd, have a safe trip tomorrow.

Hal, I hope you find no damage from the surprise hail storm. Sleep well.

So I will bid you all a very Good night, with Prayers, Love and hugs. Snuggle down and "Let go, and let God."

Jane S, I know with Jacqui Lawson cards you can arrange for the card to be sent to recipient at a later date, so it arrives on their birthday in one, two, or three weeks time, on the day....so It may have been possible Gloria had made the arrangement whilst she still had her computer up and running, just a thought...

Well I am up, so far no snow....
Benji now comes to get me, I can see through to the end of the kitchen that both dogs are looking at me, in my bed, and only get excited when I move as if to get up, then they move fast as if to the back door, they know we now have a new morning routine, I put my dressing gown on let them out and good dogs that they are, they do their poo's....Then its kettle on for my morning cuppa.......Wont be long when my vegi box delivery man turns up, so I have now slipped on skirt and cardi, he will be here 7.30am'ish.....

Food For Thought

Where are You?
(By Mike Hoskins)

Gen 3:9 Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?" (NAS)

Take one omniscient Being.

Think about omniscient. God knows everything. He does not have to think things over. He doesn't have to wonder what will happen or when it will happen. He doesn't need a lie detector. He doesn't need to see the video tape over again - no instant replay required. He knows the end from the beginning. He doesn't have to add up the column of numbers to get the answer. He just knows.

And while that whole concept may be something very tough for our finite minds to completely grasp, we get a taste of it. Then to see this question, "Where are you?" It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that something is odd. If I shouted down the hallway, "Where are you?" First you might wonder what I was doing in your house. But after that the question would be perfectly valid. I obviously do not know where you are. I need help locating you.

But here is the oddity. God knows everything, so He knows where Adam is hiding and why. But the all-knowing Creator of the Universe still asks Adam, "Where are you?"

One point is that God is asking for Adam's benefit. Adam, think about where you are. Think about what has happened to you. Why are you hiding from me? Surely you know I care for you more than anyone. So, what has come between us Adam?

Has God ever asked you, "Where are you?" meaning, "What is it that is in your life that is coming between us?" It is an uncomfortable thing. The best thing to do is just confess and repent. Adam tries to blameshift to Eve, but God knows all about that too. That is the trouble with trying to argue with an omniscient Being. In a battle of whits we are greatly outgunned to the point of being comedic. A rubber raft and one oar complete with pea shooter verses a full outfitted, nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. Get a picture of that in your mind because that's about as close as our limited scope can grasp to the actual reality of the situation.

There's one other thing about "Where are you?" that is clear if you think about it. It also says, "I love you." I'm coming to you and I want to help. I want you to see the predicament you are in clearly. I'm being very patient with you in My care and concern for you. Let Me help you.

Thought of the Day

"Just because of His unfathomable love, the God of LOVE, when He sees His children resting their souls on things that can be shaken, must necessarily remove those things from their lives in order that they may be driven to rest only on the things that CANNOT be shaken; and this process of removing is sometimes very hard."

Joan, Lloyd Hammond,  good morning....No sign of Jane S yet, sure she will be along soon....

Well morning weather started of fine, dry and sunny but now we are having/had, hail/sleet, not sure which, just a quick splurge, maybe that will be it for the day, but I shan't bet on it after yesterdays talk of snow....

I will be soon off with R looking for a post office to send a parcel back, re, branch finder on the internet.....I also have to look for cellophane first to seal the box...Seems we have several places/shops that do a " drop & go " but you have to register, this seems to be something new....not sure this will apply to mine as I need to get a receipt, even though it is free returns....I will stick with parcelforce...

Edited, good morning Amy, you sneaked in when I wasn't looking.... :D

Halkel, I am now wondering if we just had your hail....

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I did a little more shifting of boxes and clothes last night and I was really tired so I took a bag of potato chips, turned on JAG and ate my way through much of it.  Then I went to bed as soon as JAG was over.  I slept like the dead and I am wide awake and ready to go today.

I read everything everyone wrote and it looks like everyone is off to a good start.  I hope Everyfriend's day goes well.

Joanie, I copied the teacher thing and forwarded it to my niece.  She a middle school teacer and I think right about now, she needs a chuckle.

Must go feed the doggies. Mickie is sitting here making pitiful sounds like she's starving to death and Annie is shifting from foot to foot and making sure I know she's getting impatient.  Bye for now!

Vanilla-Jackie--Gosh, it seems the hail/sleet should have "gone to bed" for this year.  Good luck finding a post office.

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, four cords of wood.  That's a lot of wood.  Was that temp right that you gave us: 0  you should be having snow and sleet not rain.

I am wondering what is in store for a lot of us today/tonight.  Storms are predicted for all the central U.S.  Supposedly one of the worst outbreaks of this year.  Anyhow, we are on the very Southern end of the predicted area but Callie, Lloyd and Tissie are smack dab in the middle of things.  Hope all is not as bad as predicted.  I should add our friend in Plano to that group and possibly Sun over in East Texas.

"...SUMMARY...
A SUBSTANTIAL SEVERE-WEATHER EVENT IS EXPECTED TODAY AND TONIGHT
OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS...WITH
TORNADOES...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND ALL POSSIBLE.
DAMAGING WIND ALSO IS EXPECTED FROM A COMPLEX OF THUNDERSTORMS
MOVING ACROSS THE LOWER MISSOURI VALLEY AND MIDDLE MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY REGION THIS MORNING INTO EARLY AFTERNOON.
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html (http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html)

Everyone in the area shown, please take care.

Jackie, you sound like you are feeling better.  And your weather is not the best.
My brother in law said they had rain in London yesterday.

Anyhow, coffee is ready.  And I am to for a cup.

Hi everyone on a beautiful, sunny day where we expect to reach 84 degrees this afternoon.  Our main activity today is our Monthly Senior Luncheon at Church.  The speaker today is the president of the garden association of North Augusta and will speak about raising Camellias, which are apparently quite popular here.  One of the men in our Sunday School class is the International Vice President of the Camellia Society.

My frustrations of yesterday with my printers is solved.  I found I had not rebooted my computer after installing the laser printer and once that happened it started to work fine and the way it should.  My son was able to get all of the printers set up on all of the computers.  This included the Canon printer that I thought couldn't be used with Windows 10.  So now Pat has a printer upstairs.  He got our hanging baskets hung on the back porch and I got the tomatoes and other plants potted.  So I am looking forward to a calm and much more relaxed day today.

Hal, I have never worn a tuxedo as never had the occasion to do so and pretty sure I won't need one in the future.  Most of the older men in our church do wear suits or sports coats with slacks and ties to church on Sunday.  During the summer it is a little less so.  However, I find I enjoy getting dressed up and wearing a tie and coat.

Jackie, it sounds like you were feeling better and that was a nice walk you had yesterday.

Patricia, I always enjoyed Gilda Radner.  I am glad you posted your picture so I now have a face to associate with your name. I have asked at the nurseries around here if they ever get shamrock plants and the answer has been know.  I would like to get one for my office and have checked on line.  It sounds like you have a lot of plants in your apartment.

Lloyd, where you see the time at the bottom of your computer screen (in the task bar) just click on it and you will see a calendar page and at the bottom is says date and time settings.  Click on it and you can change the time to Central Time easily.

Joan, I expect most teachers would agree with what Jeff Foxworthy put into words.

Jenny, I agree that it would be nice to find some simple computer related things.  However, setup is actually much easier than it was in the early days.  Glad this week has finally arrived to Michelle to have the reversal surgery.  You will be ready for a vacation after caring for your grandchildren for three days in a row.

Good morning, halkel.  Thanks for all the weather info.  I pray all those in areas where horrible weather is predicted remain safe.

Larry--Good morning.  Great that you and Scott got all the printers working and the plants put where you wanted them.  Camellias are beautiful, but they don't seem to survive here.

Good morning everyone! Well, last night we finally had the rain everyone has hoped for so the dust will die down and the greenery will open.  :)

Larry, I find plants are welcome on those chilly winter days and hot summer ones. I can bring a piece of green back from the dead. But if you put a blossom on it, it curls up and dies the minute it sees me coming! I don't know why the shamrock is an exception!

Joan and Jane, I copied the teacher thing for my middle school teacher Cathie :).  She is counting down the days  - not quite down to counting the minutes yet, but that will come :).  June 2 for the kids and "D Day" for the teachers is June 3 :).

Hal and Jackie both got hail and tonight is our turn again unfortunately.  Storm #5 (we get one a week) is due to arrive about 6PM tonite with up to 80MPH winds, baseball size hail,  possible flooding and a maybe a few tornadoes.  Between now and then, I have to drive Jeff to Ft Worth for PT on his leg (he can't drive yet), come home, batten down the hatches and leave for my pulmonologist appt at 3PM. We missed the brunt of it the last three or four weeks, praying it will pass us again. Thankfully the kids aren't working tonight.

Hope y'all have a good day.

Good morning, angelface.  We need rain desperately.  There are so many brush fires around--many causing folks to evacuate their homes.

Kelly--This is the time of year when "hot and humid" begins, and that lasts for months.

MaryTX--Good morning.  My mother was a teacher, and I remember that at this time of year she was counting the days, too.  I pray the storm again passes you by.

When we drove out our uphill drive this morning we passed our parkhome manager and another resident out with petrol lawnmowers cutting the grassed edges, they had their work cut out, one starting the far end, the other our home end.....Well Phyl the manager knocked on our door a few minutes ago asking us if we would like him to mow our back garden lawn, our lawn is on a slope...He is now outside mowing it, guess he thought while passing our home and still in his blue overalls to ask, I told him he is a gem, a godsend as the grass has gotten so high, uneven and dangerous for me...I have trouble getting up there even on flat grass, but get so disorientated and find it hard to even move whilst its long but...for weeks now I have been onto R to mow the lawn, always getting the same answer, " yes I'll do it....." but he never does.... each time he always comes up with an excuse not to...oh well another job R has got himself out of doing, same as with hoovering....I offered Phyl a cuppa, even asked if he was hungry but, he declined both....just shows that some people will do for others and without fuss....

Ha ha, in hindsight, as he passes our garden gate, far end of garden, road side, he must have thought my, that grass is mighty high, soon their dogs will be disappearing in it, I had better do something about it........

Kelly, I used to do a lot of early morning/evening office cleaning one time, but I struggle now to even do our lounge and kitchen, before resting to do the hall, bedrooms, office.....Not forgetting cleaning peoples large private houses several years ago..... I would have thought nothing of lugging a hoover up and down flights of stairs...

It is hard to deal with when your mind says you can, even want to do it, but your body tells you cant....

Weather here is very changeable, very dark but dry at present, but have had our second short burst of hale, nothing major as yet...

Kelly, I know there is joy in gardening, even we have just found out that part of the garden next door actually belongs to us.....I even brought my pink plastic garden waste container with us, I will give trimming of bushes, shrubs a go, as I said I look at them and think what I would do if I get my hands on this or that but, I may find this harder when I try attempting to reach them, and try my balancing act, it will sure be touch and go if I even can reach them, but I will give it my best shot...Oh forgot, next door neighbour says he will trim from his side, we will do our side, that's a fair deal, although part of his garden is open and that's where I have to reach.......

Amy, I googled a cord of wood. That's a lot of wood girl. Do you have a special covered area where you stack it ? I am asking God to Bless your good neighbor who helped you with the stacking.

I'm still frustrated by Amazon. I keep getting messages that my orders are being delivered, and now I have a message that say delivery was attempted but they found no safe place to leave it. I am attempting to inform them to leave it at our main desk, but they do not accept my email as a return to their message. Nothing they can do for me is worth the bad vibes I feel at this time.

Redbud, I do hope you get home from you Dr.'s appointment long before the storm is due in your area. Hail that size would give me a scare.

My day started out so nicely….why do I allow things like Amazon to spoil it for me. Darn !!!

Hi Jackie
I think with having my own business, that losing that after 26 years was harder than the disability.

As your employment is what makes most things in life possible and that in today new language was a 'game changer' in having to give up my business.

Sorry that you are having so much
trouble with Amazon.  They leave all my
packages in the renters office,  and
they call me when I get something.

Talk to the manager of your place
and explain to them your problem.

These instructions can be put on your
Amazon account.  So talk to
your son too.  He should be able
to straighten things out.

I just looked out the window,
and it is snowing!   And accumulating!

Hi Joan
It was as it was something I worked at to build up into a business over the years.

With my change of circumstances with a disability, you adapt to the changes. And that is manageable.

And I think has made me a better person,

I love Amazon Prime.    It is convenient,
and they deliver free (for most things) and very
prompt.

I try not to just give up just because
something that I really like might have
a few hitches in it.

Like my Mom used to say:
"No need to cut off your nose to spite
your face" ... better  "if at first you
don't succeed,  try,  try  again"
instead of "throwing the baby out with
the bath water!"

I agree with Sandy and Joan's suggestions re help with Amazon. I know in our building there is an office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays where they help people with paperwork. Perhaps if you have someplace similar in your building they could possibly assist you.

We have a mailroom on the first floor where all mail and or packages are left for tenants  after they call your apartment to come for pickup and security at all doors which is probably a good thing.

I use it regularly and love Prime as it really helped on both purchasing and returning a computer. Especially since I am three thousand miles from their closest office. And upon ordering a vacuum cleaner with no shipping. When I return items, they show up with returned monies within 3 days.

Good Afternoon,

The possibility of very severe weather in the metro OKC area later this afternoon has area schools closing early and cancelling after-school and evening activities.  Although schools often close during heavy winter weather, as far back as I can remember, this is the first time for it to happen during the Spring.
We had a mild winter and schools may be using what would have been Snow Days.

The timing of the expected storm arrival is probably a factor, too -softball or larger size hail, 80-90 mph winds and some tornadoes could move in about the time kids are getting out of school.
I also suspect that memories of  a huge destructive tornado of several years ago (referred to as The Moore Tornado) that hit just about the time highways and byways were clogged with commuter traffic are in a lot of minds.
Even the zoo is closing early in the afternoon so the animals can be moved inside.
Probably wise decisions all way 'round.

All of this created a change in my day.   Plan A was to skip the usual morning hair appointment and go at 1:00 p.m. for a perm.  Hairdresser called about 9:45 - all in a snit because her husband had reported heavy hail in the rural area where they live and she was moving appointments around so she could go home.
Result:   I went immediately to get my hair done (see previous comments about my lack of skill with curlers, etc.  ;D) - perm rescheduled for next week.   It worked out well because the skies didn't look bad when I was done  so I was able to go to the grocery store and am now "home for the duration".

My dil, who has taught middle school for 32 years, is retiring in May - and I know she would relate to the comments about teachers!!!!

Re: gardening:   I'm like my Aunt who used to say her thumb wasn't green - it was just dirty. #2 son is aware of this and provided low-maintenance plants for the new flower beds.

Time to find something for lunch and be sure my flashlights, battery-powered phone and radio are ready in case Whatever Comes heads my way.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

June,  I am sorry that you have had so much trouble with Amazon.

I am another of the ones who are pleased with my Amazon Prime account and the quick delivery they have. I have even gotten a package on Sunday.  I think they just opened a new distribution center down in Baltimore City,  so I am sure that is what helps with delivery.  I have only had one problem over the past couple years when a package just was lost.  I received a refund in just a day or so.  I could have reordered it, but so far, have found I really didn't need the item.

I live in a Senior Apt. building and the mail man leaves packages either in my mail box, or a larger box or if too big for that,  he delivers it to my door.  And, I always have a message about where it has been left.

Sure hope you will get things straightened out.

Joan, too late to say good morning to you, so I will say I hope you are having a good afternoon.

I have been going through a bunch of paper work and filling out a whole bunch of some medical forms.  My primary doctor changed her practice to a new company and they are requiring me to fill out a bunch of paperwork as if I were a new patient.  I have been going to this doctor for almost 10 years.  It is frustrating, as I paid to have all my records sent to the new practice.  Some of the questions are very personal........ which I have never had to answer before.  A friend told me these kind of questions are due to the  new Obama Care rules.   A couple of the questions I feel are things  that are  none of their business, especially for a person my age........... and I am almost tempted to write that.  I should know that things are a lot different now than years ago.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Joy

A good Tuesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND,

I am happy to say that Michele's surgery went well and she is in the recovery room.  I thank you all who have held good thoughts and said prayers for her.  This has been a long process and it is so good to know that she is at this point....a time that seemed to so far down the road.

The little grands were very good for us this morning.  We arrived at their home at 6 AM and one by one they awakened and came down to greet us.  They are all very independent and want to do things for themselves, and do a good job f it.  We drove them to school and returned with Lola the doggie, to our home until it is time to pick them up from school.  The neighbors saw Lola was here and had to come over and see her.

JACKIE, how nice that Phyl offered to mow your lawn for you.  Shame on R for not taking responsibility for it.  I hope he will not continue to be a hold out.  I hope you are able to do a bit of the gardening, as I know you would enjoy doing it.

JOAN, I am sorry that your nephew has to wait longer for his reversal surgery.  Did he have to have radiation?  Michele did not.  The other thing is that Michele's blood count never did get to be a problem, so that helped her to be able to do this as soon as she did.  My thoughts and prayers for your nephew as he moves through his journey as well.

JUNE, I, too, a sorry you have not had the best experience with Amazon.  I do have prime and have had a very good experience with them.  I have ordered from a couple of other places recently and it too forever for the item to come.  One item was not up to my satisfaction, so called them and they were not very nice to talk to and then I found out that I would have to pay the shipping on the item to get it back, even though the problem with the item was totally their fault.  Good luck getting your issue figured out.

I must get busy and get something done today.  Enjoy your day.

Jenny

Joy--What a nuisance that must be to have to fill out all those papers when it's the same doctor--she just has a different affiliation.  And you had to pay to have records transferred to the same doctor?  That's insane.

Jenny--GREAT that Michele's reversal surgery went so well.  My nephew did not have radiation.  I don't know about his blood situation since they live so far away.  Thanks for your prayers.

Hi, Kelly.  I'm glad I have several e-books available because I suspect the evening t v schedule will be pre-empted by the weather.   Each of the three local stations has multiple "storm watchers" out on the highways and streets giving live filmed reports and they are all skilled professionals.
I appreciate the detailed information they're able to give about storm movements and severity.  However, it does get a bit tiresome when nothing is happening and the weather person says the same thing over and over - and then switches to each of six or seven "watchers" - none of whom has anything to report.
Better safe than sorry, I'm sure.

Denver Jenny,   so glad to know Michelle's surgery went well.   I sometimes think we don't give kids enough credit for realizing when it's necessary to "step up to the plate" and be responsible.

"All quiet on the western front' so far.   I suppose I should find something useful to do - like unload and reload the dishwasher and put away the groceries.

Hi CalliOK
Good idea with the e-books.

Is it possible that with the storms the electricity might go off and the television will not be on due to a  power cut.

Kelly
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of April 24
Post by: CallieOK on April 26, 2016, 04:27:48 PM
Yes, Kelly, very likely that electricity would go off unless an area has underground wiring instead of power poles. However, city electric companies are really good about restoring power as quickly as possible.
All the tv channels are connected with one or another radio station that broadcasts their telecasts live so it's easy to stay informed with a battery-operated radio.  There are also cell phone apps that give weather alerts as well as broadcast the tv reports.

Many families have an underground storm shelter or a "Safe Room" (a small area constructed of reinforced concrete in the garage or interior of the house).  I don't have either - but do have an area in an interior closet that is well protected and set up with the things I need to stay informed.
There are no laws that residences or public buildings must have either of these - but almost every school in the Oklahoma City metro area has now built a Safe Room large enough to hold all students attending that school.  Many office buildings are doing the same thing.

Edit:   Well - in addition to forthcoming hail/tornadoes, the metro area has had  3.4 and 4.7 earthquakes this afternoon.
I don't usually feel them at my house but #2 son posted a picture of his very skittish Lab with his nose on son's foot and the caption:  "Earthquakes? Tornadoes?  *****with that.  I'm hiding under Dad's desk".

Hal, the rain did turn to snow and the ground was covered when we left for the city..my poor rhubarb has had snow on it 3 times now.Now it is nice and sunny and the snow is all gone.

June, we do have an open shed that we pile the wood in out of the elements.

Trip to the city went darn good! Jane ,you started me going with buying tops which I also needed, came home with 4 all half price  tried them on and 3 will stay here and I will take one back. Then I went to Fabricland..I can hear you say oh oh. :)   Flannel was on for $2.00 a metre from 10.00 and I had a coupon for 50% off one continuous cut so.I bought 4 metres of cotton and 10 of the flannel :) Had a gift certificate  and all I had to pay was $1.10!! Love bargains like that.
Better go see what I can avoid doing:)))

halkel--I pray you are safe, too.

Janie--I am glad Suzi also shared the "teacher thing".

Amy--Rhubarb seems to be sturdy stuff.  Do you think it can withstand the snow?  You really got a good buy at Fabricland.

Amy, one pair of my pants are going back and the other has to be shortened.  I now have a pair of white jeans from last year than need shortening and this pair of pants.  But I need someone to check the length before I cut anything off.  Maybe my daughter will stop by after work one day and do that for me.

What a nice bargain you got at fabricland!

I'll have to get the doggies their supper pretty soon.  Annie is shifting her feet under the desk and it's only a matter of minutes till the gives me her one-bark attention getter.

I hope the bad storms miss everyone and everyone's families, too.

Oh! Oh!  Mickie just joined Annie under the desk and the starving-dog pathetic tiny whines are starting.  I can't stand that and they know it!

I check back later if I can stay awake.  I didn't get my nap this afternoon because I had to vote.

Sandy, I spoke to the girl at the desk and she said that they always received parcels at the front desk. If they make evening deliveries they have to get out of their car and push a button to open the locked gates. I will just have to look up the phone number again and give them a call. Like a dummy I didn't write down the phone # last time I used it. What is the latest date that you have had snow on your Rocky Coast of Maine, Sandy. ?

Bis, thank you my good hearted friend…you saved me a search. I now have the phone # copied on a sheet of all Amazon information that I should have at my fingertips and have neglected to do. I think I am my own worst enemy. I cause my own frustrations.

Patricia, With my grocery delivery they have a section on their paper work where they request a delivery area…..it comes to my door, in a four hour span of time, but they stop at the front desk and get directions to my building..a wise move.

Just had a call from the desk, saying there was a parcel with my name on it….Yup…Amazon….a tray I had ordered. Two more items to go. Things are looking up.

Just returned from back to back programs..first was Creative Writing Class..but I had to leave early as I really needed to get downstairs to the Balance and Mobility class. They have so much going on and not enough time on the clock. But I'm home for the rest of the day now….will have a light supper at home.

I am praying for all who are in the path of the predicted storms. Hopefully they will be lighter than expected. Keep safe dear ones.

I wrote a long post earlier today and somehow it got lost in cyberspace!

June - I'm so glad one of your packages arrived.  Sometimes the delivery trucks (UPS, Fed Ex., etc.) have difficulty when delivering to a large complex. When I get packages, the driver drops the package at my front door, rings the bell and leaves. The only time they wait for me to answer the door is when it's something I need to sign for.  I knew someone who worked for UPS and they were under a strict time limit.

I have a problem ordering anything (from anywhere) for my daughter. She lives in a rural area and the post office won't deliver to a roadside mailbox because they would have to stop on a "dangerous curve". Most companies won't deliver to a P. O. Box #. She also has an address that just lists the road name. We finally came up with the plan of having things delivered to their workplace. We had the same problem when we lived in Vermont. We always had our packages delivered to the Ford Dealership near us. (my son's in-laws  :) )

Kelly - After ordering from Amazon all these years, I do believe they run their business very well.

Thinking of all of you in the path of storms and praying you'll stay safe. I remember nights like this during the years we lived in Oklahoma.  Some nights I would stay up for hours watching TV for tornado warnings while Chape was traveling.  Had to take shelter in the basement only once. Very few places out there have basements. Shirley from Kansas is also having storms.

Speaking of bad weather, they had a snowstorm in Vermont this morning. Nice and warm here in Florida.

Jenny - I hope all goes well with Michele and life with her family can return to normal. It's been a long road for her.

Beverly, hopefully Amazon will remember what to do with my deliveries. I know it can be confusing here, as once you enter the gates it is nothing but parking lot. You have to walk through a couple of areas that could easily confuse a stranger, before you get to the main office. From there on it is easy. That was good thinking to have packages delivered to the work place. With you, I'm keeping those in the path of storms in prayer and good thoughts.

I had no naps at all today, so it will be an early bedtime..it is already past seven o'clock, so I will say a prayerful Good Night and God be with you. Hugs, Love and more prayers. June

Food For Thought

"Your New Place"
By Bob Perks

You were comfortable where you were.  It certainly felt right.

You were in a place and now you are not.

You are in your new place.

That's the thing about life.  Wherever you are, you are always somewhere.

You may feel at times that you are without a home.

You may even think that you are lost.

Keep this in mind.  The total summation of who you are is self contained.  It's not scattered.  It's not bits and pieces.  There aren't components which need to be installed.

You are the total summation of everything you believe, everything you have learned.

So, no matter where you are you are in your place.

One day you are in a familiar setting.  In your heart of hearts you can't imagine ever being anywhere else.

Then life.  Life happens.  Something that wasn't suddenly is.

Something unexpected.

Something you never planned for happens.

Your environment, your surroundings change.

Your. Life. Changes.

Stunned, you come to a halt.  You may even fall.  You may not want to go on.

You don't have to.  You are the place.  You have evolved because of the outside forces and now you are in your new place.

Look inside.

We only feel lost when we cannot not see the familiar.

Take a moment to discover things you never knew existed.  Get to know the slightest changes you are making and then settle in.

Settle in your new place.

Tomorrow at the dawning of the new day, stand up and face the sun.  Stretch out your arms and embrace the freshness, the clean and untouched elements of what this new day has to offer.

Do not be afraid.

Do not hesitate to own this.

It is yours.

It isn't what was.  It is what will be.

Stand tall for this my friend is your new place.

And you...Own it.

Thought of the Day

Joan, good morning....our mail arrived an hour earlier through our letter box, with it brought my Neurology chosen Hospital appointment, Poole.....September 5th....I was given the name of the Neurology Consultant, it is a 10.30am app, but it will be some miles to travel on the day.....I am ok with this wait, 3 months later than my previous app from my old address......Of course today would have been better, my leg top inner thigh/groin is playing up with its usual like electric shocks then spasming...

R too got his local Hospital appointment through this morning for his eyes, but we also have two other apps on that morning so would be pushing it so he has phoned to book the next available app which is for the same week...The other apps for that day are/were Toby new pet groomers visit, he is long overdue by 3 weeks and looking quite shabby and scruffy and Benjys Vets top up booster vac, we can just about manage to get both app in on the morning of 16th May, in between Tobys drop off and pick up....

Good morning Joy and natureboy.

Vanilla-Jackie--Three months seems a long time to wait for an appointment.  Between you, "R" and your lovely dogs, you sure have quite a few appointments.

Good morning, Janie.  How nice that your daughter is bringing you your birthday supper.  Have a wonderful day!!

Joan, as as usual, the appointments consist of Vets and Hospitals.....
..............................................

R has just come off the phone from our home Surveyor, he has offered to give us £1,400 as he messed up...plus with our £300 cash from previous owners, re Surveyors messed up figure, we are happy to accept, just leaving us out of pocket by £1,200.....Our chosen workman came back to us yesterday with a slightly lower quote as he said he felt guilty that he never made his previous quote clear to us that he was going to add onto it VAT....again we are happy to accept his updated lower quote...He should be starting the outside work and painting in June...

Edited to change from May to June...

Good Morning Everyone!

Well the boomers finally came to visit.  About 3 or 4 in the morning and they were noisy and full of lightening.  But I can see no damage when I went out to get the paper this morning.  I am anxious to hear how Callie did last night.  The last picture I saw from her area it was looking pretty bad.

Good Morning Kevin bet you slept in this morning.

Jackie, finally some good news. Hopefully the decorator will make the place look spic and span.

I think coffee is ready, Anyone want a cup?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE!

I am another lover of Amazon Prime.  I've never had a bit of trouble with them.  Also, I stream a couple of the premium tv channels through a subscription on Prime.  It costs me about half of what I used to pay for those channels to my cable company.  And anything that gets me away from dealing with Time Warner is a big plus for me.

June, it is possible that your delivery problems are more the fault of the delivery company, or driver, not wanting to go that "extra step" rather than Amazon.  But, it seems that you are getting things straightened out now and I hope it continues that way.

Still missing Gloria.  I'm sorry that her computer problems are not being solved easily.

Supposed to be hotter here today, too, Joan.  Not quite up to your level yet.  And tomorrow they are warning us of the possibility of the severe weather that all of you in the mid and south west have been having.  But, please Callie, no earthquakes!  Thank you very much!

Jane, my Charlie Brown (a mini dachshund), didn't whine or bark for food but he could hear the rattle of a spoon from a house length away--even if he was asleep--and make it to the kitchen before I could turn around.  There was absolutely no food that he didn't like except one time I dropped an olive on the floor and he got to it before I could.  He didn't eat it but did roll on it to try to kill it!  ;)  Smart dog!  He knew olives weren't good for him.

Strawberries are in season here in our part of NC.  If the weather allows I may get out to one of the local farms and buy a big basket of those wonderful things.

Thank you Everyone for the birthday wishes.  It's going to be a good day because that's what I'm planning.

Phyll, if the strawberries are ripe in NC that means our Farmer's Market will have them on Sunday from there.  I think I'll pop up after church and check that out.  The things that come early from NC are usually pretty good.

Last night about 8:30 the dogs began to bark like someone was coming and there was my son-in-law.  He said that he won't be able to come with my daughter today but he wanted to wish me a happy birthday.  He gave me two hugs, 3 kisses and a card.  He's such a sweetie!

Phyll, I always say that if I drop a soft noodle on the floor, the dogs will be there before it hits...even if they're outside or asleep.

I have to go get ready for work now.  You all have a pleasant day!

Hi everyone on another beautiful South Carolina Day.  It is going to be warmer getting up to 89 degrees this afternoon.  So far the only thing on the schedule will be the Wednesday night dinner at church and then Scott's visit following.  I will probably go to the grocery store today for a few items.  Pat has been dealing with extreme tiredness and didn't feel up to going to the Senior Luncheon and program yesterday.  We had a good meal and a good program dealing with the history of Camellias in South Carolina and in particular those at one of the bed and breakfast places where a number of new varieties were propagated. I won't be planting any however as the lady said they are very slow growing and won't flower much before 10 years of growth.  She said there were over 400 known varieties of these flowers.

Patricia, since we moved to this house and Pat put her two indoor plants on a table in the sun room they have really thrived and the one may tackle us any day it grows so fast.

MaryTX, sure hope the storm missed you and our other friends living in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and other places the bad storms were predicted to hit last night.  My wife's sister lives near Kansas City and she called and said she had her bag packed to take to her basement if needed.  Fortunately she has a place to get to during a tornado.

Jackie, glad someone appeared and offered to mow your back lawn.  Is your lawn very large at your new home?  Sure hope you and Kelly had no damage from the hail.

Callie, with the tornado history around Oklahoma City and the not to distance disaster at Moore, Oklahoma it is easy to understand the caution being taken.  Reading further I see you mentioned the same reasons for the caution.  I like those cellphone alerts for weather in our area.  It seems like having a safe room built during construction of a home would be a wonderful selling point particularly where tornados and high winds are normal.

Jenny, I know it is relief to all that Michele's surgery is over and went well.  I think we are getting spoiled by the two day delivery from Amazon.  The only time I have had to pay return postage to Amazon was when I decided I didn't need it but the item was what I had ordered and was fine.  I don't think that is unreasonable.

Amy, does anything effect the rhubarb.  We had a large patch of it on the farm in Missouri and it seemed to thrive regardless of the weather.  That was a bargain on the fabric but I guess your gift certificate helped a lot also.

June, if you continue to have problems with the deliveries of things you order perhaps you could use your son's address as he come to your home for his weekly Bible classes.

Happy Birthday Jane.

Phyllis, you won't have to deal with Time Warner too much longer as yesterday it received approval to merge with Charter.  Just hope that Charter is a better company.

Halkel, its to the outside to stop water and dampness seeking in....
Halkel, we had one loud rumble of thunder yesterday....

Larry Hanna, not so much a large lawn but a long and slim one, which is noticeable from the road into our site.........
Larry maybe Pat is coming down with something if all of a sudden she is feeling more tired.......
Ah yes I understand the logic behind, re, not buying slow growing Camellias.....we will never get to see the joy....

I saw that, too, Larry.  Charter is buying Time Warner but I think I read that it will keep the TW name and probably it won't be much better....just bigger.  :(

Good Morning,
Storm Saga
"It was a dark and stormy night....."
Morning headline read "We were lucky".   There were at least 3 small tornadoes that did some damage and quite a few lost electric power due to poles being blown over but, in general, the Major Event the weather gurus were dreading did not happen.  No damage to the homes of me and mine.
Everything I can see is sparkling in the sunshine this morning.
"All Quiet On The Western Front"
The End

Happy Birthday, Janie

Going to a luncheon at Pepperoni Grill.   Off to put on the "war paint" and find something "luncheon-y" to wear.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good Morning Phyllis - I bought some of those delicious fresh Strawberries to which you referred.  And they are wonderful!  Treat yourself to some and enjoy!

A BIG HAPPY CHEER to our Birthday Lady today.  Be sure to do something special for yourself and enjoy!

HAL - I've been reading and listening to the News last night about the horrible weather expected in your area.  Sure glad you had no damages!

I have a freshly mowed yard, but the fellows did NOT have the time a couple of days ago to trim the large bushes between our house and the neighbors.  So I called the Manager and left a request on his line to have the yard fellows come back soon and REALLY trim the branches well.  Not only those between our two houses, but also to trim them around the side porch door and steps (a safety issue so I can see around the yard if anyone is "passing through."

Hope all enjoy the day and have a bite of ice cream in honor of our Lady's special Birthday.

Good morning everyone and a big Happy Birthday to Jane! May your day truly be special and as you like it!

I am so glad that the severe weather expected has so far not occurred! May it continue to be that way for those up and down the line.

Here we tend to deal with earthquakes and fire and in the S.E. they add the volcanoes in but you deal with what you have. With the lack of any real snow this winter and with the regularly expected rain not showing, this summer may be another hot one with more fires expected.

That was sure quick taking that off your wrist, wouldn't happen over here....

Joan, when you say lab, do you mean the blood lab, taking blood?......as we have walk in clinics at some hospitals, just cubicles, on  a numbers system, next one in, next one out....no apps necessary, yet still done via, GP referrals......

                                                          HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE

Good morning.....

To quote Callie "We were lucky" also.  There was a small tornado and some minor damage in one of the Red River counties, but here in the Metroplex, we had wind, rain and more lightning than I have ever seen before at one time.  The sky was lit constantly for nearly two hours and it looked like it was mid day.  Living down here, I do miss having an underground storm cellar, but we do have a closet.  We have talked about having a "safe" room put in a corner of the garage.  There is a saying in this part of the country, "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute"!  It's 78 degrees now with sunshine and blue skies.

Joan, I hate "first come, first serve" lab appts. Claude had to go ten days or so and no matter what time we went, it would usually be standing room only :(

Jackie, sorry about your leg spasms, but otherwise life sounds like it's settling down and getting money back is a real bonus.

Mary

Mary, just spotted your post as I posted,....yes settling down but I have still got an appointment, not come through yet, with Oncologist over my ongoing bleed for scans.....

R has had some more good news, re, money owed, not a lot just under £200 but, his solicitor paid off his house mortgage, just a year or so to go, only bank paid last months money and the two kindof crossed, so he is due a small re-imbursement from solicitor who dealt with house sale...

Gloria, evidently we have had a large high-pressure system the last three years that is preventing cooler weather and precipitation reaching us. But as we are forested with a fire driven ecology, it often happens.

Now we are only one of four separate climate-driven ecologies in the state so we will be different than say the S.E. portion of the state that is in the same rainforest climate as Washington and Oregon.

June--I am sure Janie will like your birthday greeting in just black and white.  Enjoy your Bible Lesson.

linedancer--Thanks for your words of appreciation.  I miss Gloria, too.

Vanilla-Jackie--Yes.  I mean taking blood.  I had to have that done today, and next week I have a CT scan--all in preparation for seeing my oncologist.  Good news about "R" getting more money back.

MaryTX--Glad you were safe with that terrible weather.  We had a storm cellar in Arkansas, but none here.  In the event of a bad storm,  I go into my walk-in closet with some pillows and a weather radio.  The walls of the closet are all interior walls.  I have to go to three different labs--three of my doctors use different labs and all are "first come, first served".

angelface--Your climate is very different from mine.

June, I have a terrific imagination and I saw your message in pink italic printing with flowers all over it!  Thank you for the extra effort!

To Molly, Angelface, Gloria de, Shirley and MaryTX...thank you for the good wishes.  I'm positively overwhelmed with all the personal messages that I've received today!  It's absolutely amazing to me that so many people take the time to show that they care.  You are all wonderful and if I've missed thanking anyone, I do apologize and you get a very special "THANK YOU" to make up for my omission.  You all (and all those other out there) have a special place in my heart forever!

Happy Birthday, JaneS, and many more.

We buried Norm this morning.  He died in late November and the weather could not be counted on to be nice on any given day, so Dot waited until now to make arrangements.  Dot, Terry and Jan, Jan's parents. Tom and I were there.  Jan and Tom are ordained ministers so both read passages from the Bible.  A cemetery man put the remains (in a box) in the hole and covered the hole and that was it.  Afterward we went to lunch.

Gary did extremely well this morning, first the hymns with his guitar accompaniment, then on to study some more of Daniel, chapter one. He just talks and talks and talks...I can't believe this man was once my little boy. He had to leave right away, then I went to lunch with three different ladies than yesterday. One of them has a son that is also a minister..Evangelical. Good time, laughter and chatter. Then on to check my doctors appt. this afternoon. Time changed till 45 minutes later..doctor could not get here sooner. So I can have a longer nap. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Mary  Ann, thank you so much for sharing Norms burial with us. From what I felt of Norm, this is just as he would have wanted it. But darn...he is missed.

Saw my doctor today..I really like her and told her so. She gives me confidence and hope. And why not...heart and lungs are o.k. cholesterol needs attention so we'll have another blood test done..right here in my apt. no fasting because they came in before I had even woke up in the morning. At least that is how it was done last time. No appointment to make, no waiting room, I can't believe  this place. The doctor comes here, no trip to see her, and I will automatically have an appt. for the end of May.

Time to heat up some lunch leftovers and look forward to an early bed time. I plan to come in to say goodnight.."the good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise."  :D

Beverly "they" are now telliing us to be prepared for Friday afternoon and night, another storm in the making.......I hope they are wrong like last night.  They said tonight on the news that hail was indeed in the storms that struck except they, the storms started weakening just outside of San Antonio.  Thank you Dear Lord.

Big story on the news about there is so much damage from the two storms that have come and gone, especially to cars, that it will take up to three years to clear all the claims, I don't know how that is possible, but that was what they were reporting.

I'm off to bed also, tired, hope I get a good nights sleep.  Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Janie, have a great restful day tomorrow. You have certainly earned it, just getting back to work this week, plus all the other good stuff you do, a day of rest is essential.

Beverly, Florida and Calif. seem to be fortunate weather wise. You do have hurricanes and fires, and we get our earthquakes and Forest fires..and drought…but not as frequently as some states get battered with bad weather.

Hal, I am praying that those bad storms will just evaporate up in the skies and never reach earth. And I pray that you will have a full nights sleep right straight through till morning.

I have had a good day, and I am very thankful, and now it is time to say goodnight and to all of you, and a thank you to my bed that is calling me to rest. God grant you all peace, love, hugs and more prayers. June

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE. Happy to read that you enjoyed a nice day.

Thank you, MARYANN, for sharing the news of Norm's burial service today.  It sounded perfect and now our dear friend can rest in peace.

Michele did get to go home about 6:30 tonight.  She is doing quite well although she is very sore with the incisions.  She did not want to take any stronger drugs other than Tylenol, so that is accounting for the pain not being less.  I do not blame her as those drugs they want to give you are awful.  Thank you for all the kind words.

JOAN, I will be giving a lot of good thoughts and saying prayers for a clean report for you.  Hugs.

JACKIE, I am happy to read you got the info on the end cost on the home repairs.  I did not feel you should be having to pay as much as you are, but happy it is not any more than that.
JUNE, so nice to read that you do like your doctor.  That is so important.  Glad you enjoyed Gary's service today.

We have to be up early to head down to Michele tomorrow morning, so will wish you all a good night!

Jenny

Food For Thought

The Lord is My Shepherd
(By Grace E. Easley)

The Lord is my shepherd,
And I am His lamb,
Who loves me in spite
Of the way that I am.
Who sees something in me,
That other folks miss,
And I sometimes think maybe,
Because of this
I've never felt bitter,
Unloved or alone,
Though sometimes I grieve for
My loved ones now gone.
For I've always believed in
The words He has said,
That the spirit lives on,
Though the body be dead.
And I feel closer to Him,
Because of His care,
And I know when I call Him,
That He will be there.
So I fear not the shadows,
So dark and so dim,
For my shepherd will carry me
Safely through them.

good morning everyone.DD you are up earile . Kelly you also but I think time zones are greater for you and I, I have a ? for you, do you fish on shore on your Island, if so what kind  of fish do you catch. I have many irons in the fire so to speak . one of them is to get my pontune boat in the shop and get the gaurd railing fixed up  and made where it is safe. it had a tree fall across it and damage the railing before i traded for it. Nancy and I want to start fishing. you can google Warsaw and Truman Lake and see where we can fish . catch is crappie and bass and catfish.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I said all I was going to do today was make a couple of phone calls but a sick doggie got me up around 5 a.m. and since I'll be going away soon, I think I'll try to squeeze in a trip to the vet if they have an opening.

It's cold here this morning.  I haven't checked the temp but I know it's cold.  The sun is trying to peek out so maybe it will warm up later.

I hope you all have a great day!

Thank you Jenny for the birthday wishes and thanks for the news of Michele.  I know how she feels about the drugs because I opted not to take the ones that knock me off kilter after my surgery.  I just took some Ibuprophen.  I wish her a speedy recovery!

Good morning, Lloyd.   It would be nice if you and Nancy could fish once you get the pontoon boat fixed.

Good morning, Kelly.

Amy--Good morning.  It's to be 90° here today.  I'll send you some "warm" if you wish.

Good morning, Janie.  Hope you can get in to see the vet with your sick doggie.  I'd be glad to send you some of this heat, too.

Hi everyone.  It is a warm but overcast day with a chance of some thunderstorms this afternoon but the forecast is less threatening than it was yesterday.  I did go to COSTCO yesterday morning while Pat went to her crafts meeting at the church.  We did go to the dinner at Church last evening and Scott came out to the house for a couple of hours.  Today is my day to go to coffee after picking up my friend and then will attend the Wisdom group.  That will likely be it for today.

Jackie, thanks for the info about your yard.  Pat was feeling better yesterday.

Patricia, it sounds like it could be a very long and dry summer for you with smoke in the air.  Is Fairbanks in any danger of being caught in one of those forest fires?

deAngel, Pat was feeling better yesterday.  It seems to be day by day for her as to whether she feels like doing anything or not.

MaryTX, it sounds like a safe room would be a great idea.

Kelly, glad the hail storm you had wasn't a bad one and left no damage.

June, it sounds like the needs of the residents are very well taken care of including providing for medical needs on sight. It sounds like you got a good report and glad you liked your new doctor.

Hal, I saw on the news that one Mercedes Dealer had prepared for the storm by moving all of his cars under shelter, which seemed like a very wise thing to do.  I have decided to get the wheeled platforms for my two large planters so I could move them to a more protected area in case of high winds or bad storms.  I can easily take down my hanging baskets from the back and move my beautiful impatient planters from the front porch into my garage.  At  least that is my plan.

Lloyd, you have wonderful fishing locations in your area.  I hope you and Nancy can find the time to do some fishing and relaxing.

I hope all have a good day today.

Good afternoon.....

Went out for a very short stroll, leg was spasming so it wasn't to be trusted to venture any further, just down the slope towards the site managers office where he has a wooden bench outside so I sat on that before verging uphill to home again....

Weather was cold through the night, woke up again to ground frost, but its dry now and sunny, warm but a tad breezy....

Stopped off to talk to Ivan, spoke to his wife instead.......We spoke about MS, Ivan has MS too....told her I have no MS Nurse as yet, she said she will give Ivans a ring for me, then get back to me as sometimes she visits his home....Of course when we got in, on seeing our post, there was a letter in it from guess who....The MS Nurses team, telling me I shall be hearing from someone soon....

Thanks to those who remarked about Norm's burial service.  I think he would be most pleased.

Tom told me my furnace was making strange noises so he turned it off.  I called the company and they will have someone here after noon.  In all the years I've been in charge of the furnace I have never had a problem.  This furnace is only six years old.

It is raining here this morning and our temperature is about 38 degrees outside and 68 degrees inside.  I can handle both temperatures.

Good Morning Everyone!

Joanie, thank you for breakfast, it was good.  Hope your day goes well and you get some rain.  I know how it is to stay dry, it seems like, forever.

Janie, that's all you need a sick dog.  Maybe something it ate.  Our dog is forever eating on something in the yard.  What she can find to eat on is beyond me.  Anyhow, hopefully the vet will be able to work you in.  When are you leaving?

Larry, look in Harbor Freight for one of the roll around furniture dolly's.  They have all different sizes, but the small one's are no that expensive.  And I can promise you if you go to a garden center the will want an arm and leg.
http://www.harborfreight.com/material-handling/dollies.html (http://www.harborfreight.com/material-handling/dollies.html)

Well I have got an appointment at 1100 to get a shot.  And then we have been invited to my daughters for some grilled fish for supper tonight.  I am not a great lover of grilled fish but it isn't that bad.

Lloyd, now how did you break your boat.  You would break a cast iron skillet.
Anyhow, with all the equipment you have and welding skills you should be able to repair a railing.

Got to get to getting.

Post by: JaneS on April 28, 2016, 11:15:45 AM
Hal, I don't think it was something she ate.  She seems to have a bigger problem than her tummy.  And the vet did squeeze us in.  I have an appt. for 1:30 this afternoon.  We'll see!

I decided to change my bed this morning and wash the sheets that were on there so they will be clean to make up the bed for Casey.  The are the best sheets I have.  And in the process of getting out the clean ones to put on the bed, I decided to weed.  We have a "N0-Kill" animal shelter here that uses old bedding and blankets.  And my vet is a drop off place.  So I have a box of sheets and a comforter to take with me when I take Miss Annie this afternoon.

I have a load of wash in the washer and another load waiting it's turn in the hall.  I really like having a whole day at home!

Joanie, I'm so sorry you lost your post.  I know exactly how you feel.  I'd just throw in the towel and go cook something if it were me.  That's how I work off my frustrations.  It's a wonder I don't weight a ton because I have lots of frustrations these days.

Sunday, I'm going up to the Farmers Market and look for some of those North Carolina strawberries.  I can't wait for ours.  My neighbors strawberry plants are loaded with blossoms but no berries for about a month.

Washer's on spin so I'll see you later!

Jenny, you will be busy for a while again, being an Earth Angel to Michele. She is very blessed to have you and Bob with her, and to have her doctor as a husband as well. It must give her great confidence as she heals. I am a believer in pain pills, if they are not too strong. I was told at a major hospital, Loma Linda, that healing takes place faster if one is not fighting pain while healing. But it is an individual choice of course.

Bis, I liked Ronald Reagans statement. If abortions were illegal there would be less promiscuity in the land. People would be forced to account for their behavior rather than be so willing to indulge. The only time I would agree to it would be if one were raped, or if it meant the difference between saving the mothers life or the unborn child. That's just my feelings.

Larry, I am truly thankful and content with all the nice things that we are offered here at Rowntree Gardens. There must be a waiting list for apartments as it seems well filled with residents.

I have had my banana and rice krispies, now i will make the bed, get dressed and to down to pick up three prescriptions. Had a phone call that they were ready. see you later…..

Vegetable oil ? Not me. when I cooked I used olive oil. Sigh........

Bis, when I get down to the last few…no less than 3, of a medication, I just take it down to the clinic, they call it in to a drug store they deal with, it is mailed or brought right out to them, then they call me and tell me the meds are there . So, I take the elevator down and pick them up, and usually get a couple hugs besides the meds. The billing is sent out to my address by the drug store and I mail in a check. Omnicare is the place I send the check.

Gary will be picking me up soon o go to the dentist. I had better go brush my teeth....

I've checked everyplace - every hidey hole, everything three times.  Would you believe I even checked the bathroom vanity and the clothes hamper!!!  I'm probably looking right at it and not seeing it.

It must be the same gremlin that yesterday knocked my bread machine off the counter and onto the floor - in the midst of making a loaf of bread.  I put the machine pretty much back together, plugged it back in and it took off and, much to my surprise, finished the loaf of bread which came out as delicious as usual.  The only damage I can find is to the cover hinge.

This sure hasn't been my best month.   :o

Joan, I thought of that, too, but in that case I'd at least find the empty when I was looking in the trash and all the other places.  And I did dig into the trash as well as the recyclables.  It's just what Gene used to call a "kitchen mystery".  I'll just have to replace it next time I go to the store.  And then I'll find it, of course.   :)

Mary Ann:  Please add me to the list of those who miss Norm.  Loved the alligator stories!

Speaking of losing things - I find that when I am looking looking looking, to just calm down and walk out of the room.  Returning and it will show up.  Sometimes. :(

DD:  Jenny, that is such good news on Michele being home so soon.  Each day will get a bit better.  We will be home by May 10th., put out the word to at least have snow cleared off the streets.   :)

I am going to set up an online order for groceries and pharmacy items from WalMart so we can swoop by the store at a set time (between a 4 hour window we choose) and they will bring everything out to the car, put it in the trunk and we can go straight to the house.  This has worked so well before - highly recommend it.  They charge about $7 to deliver to the door but we are able to pick up the boxes ourselves.  It saves us walking all over the big box store after driving for a day and half.

Jeanne Lee, You were truly lucky with the bread machine, almost unbelievable it would continue baking the bread. Did you check the trash barrel for the veg. oil ? you may have used it all up last time and tossed the bottle. They say three times your out..so maybe your luck will turn to the good now.

Bis, we are thinking the same direction for that missing Veg. oil.

Jeanne lee, You are a good detective ..you DID check the trash.

Mycheal, excellent detective work..I think I could have been guilty of that in my own little kitchenette.

I must go fix some kind of soft supper and then to an early bed. I am pooped. Just got back from the Dentist, about 4+ hours in the chair. I now have a nice front tooth replaced from one that fell apart, an incisor that slowly deteriorated after 91 years of use Gary took me over to the dentist in Fullerton where he and Dori go . This is my third visit to them and I am delighted.

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend.   There's a crock pot breakfast to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good  day!!

CHUCKLES

Weight For Help

Somewhat skeptical of his son's newfound determination to become Charles Atlas, the father nevertheless followed the teenager over to the weight-lifting department, admiring a set of weights.

"Please, Dad," pleaded the boy, "I promise I'll use 'em every day."

"I don't know, Michael. It's really a commitment on your part," the father pointed out.

"Please, Dad?" the boy continued.

"They're not cheap either," the father came back.

"I'll use 'em Dad, I promise. You'll see."

Finally won over, the father paid for the equipment and headed for the door.

From the corner of the store he heard his son yelp, "What! You mean I have to carry them to the car?"

Food For Thought

The Value of a Friend
Author Unknown

Mark was walking home from school one day when he noticed the boy ahead of him had tripped and dropped all of the books he was carrying, along with two sweaters, a baseball bat, a glove and a small tape recorder.

Mark knelt down and helped the boy pick up the scattered articles. Since they were going the same way, he helped to carry part of the burden. As they walked Mark discovered the boy's name was Bill, that he loved video games, baseball and history, and that he was having lots of trouble with his other subjects and that he had just broken up with his girlfriend.

They arrived at Bill's home first and Mark was invited in for a Coke and to watch some television. The afternoon passed pleasantly with a few laughs and some shared small talk, then Mark went home. They continued to see each other around school, had lunch together once or twice, then both graduated from junior high school. They ended up in the same high school where they had brief contacts over the years.

Finally the long-awaited senior year came and three weeks before graduation, Bill asked Mark if they could talk. Bill reminded him of the day years ago when they had first met. "Did you ever wonder why I was carrying so many things home that day?" asked Bill. "You see, I cleaned out my locker because I didn't want to leave a mess for anyone else. I had stored away some of my mother's sleeping pills and I was going home to commit suicide. But after we spent some time together talking and laughing, I realized that if I had killed myself, I would have missed that time and so many others that might follow. So you see, Mark, when you picked up those books that day, you did a lot more, you saved my life."

Every little hello, every little smile, every helping hand, can save a hurting heart.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had more rain overnight with more expected beginning around noon today.  The temp is 43 right now and "The Mysterious They" are only predicting the mid 50s today.  Not going to be a very nice day so I guess I'll have to make my own "nice" today.

I hope you all have whatever your heart desires today!  Make it a good day!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well as usual when I have to be up early, I am up early, my internal clock just wont let me sleep.

Anyhow, hope everyone has a good day.  The weather here is like it is set on "go" and just needs someone to pull the trigger.  It is so humid you can cut it with a knife.  They say storms today, tonight.

Talk to you later, got to get cleaned up.

Janie--Good morning.  Sure wish you could send some of that rain my rain.  They keep saying we'll get some, but nary a drop in my neck of the woods.

Good morning, halkel.  Like you--no rain here.  It's just H & H (hot and humid).  I hope your test goes well.

I would like to send you some of our rain, Joan, if only I knew how to do that.  We had some strong storms last night but no damage here and the power stayed on.  Other parts of the area weren't so lucky.

Staying close to home today....I have to cook.  But, I am using my own oil!  I promise I didn't take yours, Jeanne Lee.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another nice day.  We had no rain yesterday so glad I watered the yard.  In a little while we will leave so Pat can get to a 9:45 doctor's appointment.  It is a followup related to some blood tests ordered at her last visit.  After that the schedule is clear for today.

Hal, thanks for suggesting Harbor Freight as I would never have thought of them for the wheeled platform for the planters.  I was going to see what I could find on Amazon or eBay.

Jeanne,  I often look for things in the refrigerator and just overlook them as they are there.  Pat couldn't find her rings for about a week and then one day reached into the pocket of a robe she doesn't wear often and there they were.  We knew they had to be in the house somewhere but thought we had checked everywhere.  I liked Hal's idea that your oil just slipped away.

Janie--I don't have any plain cooking oil, but there 3 bottles of extra virgin olive oil in the pantry, and I'd be happy to share.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Please do figure out a way to send rain this way.  What are you cooking today?

Larry--Good morning.  I hope Pat gets a good report from her labs.

Good morning, Lloyd.  The sun is brightly shining here, but no sign of rain.

Jeanne  Lee, Maybe that bottle of oil was put into the refrigerator instead of the cupboard. Sounds like something I would do.

Had a  good nights sleep, house keeper arrived to change my bed while I was still in it. Guess I will have to wake earlier than my usual 6 a.m. It didn't seem to bother her...she just sat down beside me on the bed and gave me a hug, then I explained how I do my prayers and leg therapy before I start my day, and then she got to work..fresh bed linens, fresh towels and she was gone for the day. Every other week is deep cleaning, and that comes later in the day, so I just disappear at that time.

Hal, I am saying a prayer that your tests today go well, and God will heal whatever the problem may be. And we don't want any members that walk around with a chemical radiance...we prefer the real thing...a human glow.

Sandy. Congratulations Ge Ge !! Hope you get to cuddle her soon. I am a G.G. times six......I love it ! We have a long way to go to catch up with our MaryPage.

My mouth is reminding me that I have a new tooth in there. All those injections that numb still leave some swelling and numbness behind. But I am thankful to have had it done. Have to find something soft to eat for breakfast.

Good Morning,

Congratulations, Sandy.

Jeanne,  I wondered if the missing oil could be found in the bathroom because you had decided to take a soothing bath and put the wrong kind of oil in the water.    :D

June,  I know you will adjust - because that's the kind of sweet accommodating person you are - but I would be very annoyed if someone came in that early in the morning, no matter how nice the worker is.
A friend who needed more help than you do was awakened every morning at 5:30 to be dressed - because the helper had to finish her list of people before her shift ended at 7:00 a.m.  She was not a happy camper having to sit in her chair until time to go to breakfast at 7:30.

We had a two day break from the gloomy, possibly stormy weather but will need to watch the skies and check the radar today.
However, my new flowers have really responded to the rain and sun.

I've always done some sort of written/picture memento when family members have Special Days.  So, the Project du Jour is to get started on something for grandson's h.s. graduation and #2 son's 50th birthday.
I am NOT ready for it to be May!!!!!!!

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Callie, thank you for your kind words about my cleaning lady. I am not so sweet and accommodating as you said, because if I thought it were someone that was taking advantage of me, I would literally punch her out, but I know how hard she works, how many grumpy people she has to face each day,and if it means I have to let her start her days work here first, I am happy to do so. One time I was sick in bed, I sat in a chair while she did the bed, then got back into bed while she did the deep cleaning of the Apt. I could here her humming as she worked and it was consoling not to be alone. No big deal.

I found some soft breakfast so as not to disturb my new crown...on my tooth of course.  ;) Vanilla yogurt. Not exactly a bacon and eggs type of food but when you pay big bucks for a tooth repair you are willing to follow instructions. So....onward and upward !

Vanilla-Jackie--That's too bad that you have no contact with your daughter, grands and great grands.

June--I don't think I'd be too thrilled about a housekeeper arriving that early.  Did you find something soft to eat since you have a sore mouth?  Edit:  I see you had some yogurt.

Callie--I am up early.  However, unless it was emergency I don't want workers here so early.  Hard to believe the day after tomorrow May begins.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but that bottle of Wesson oil still remains among the missing.  Just to answer some of the ideas, it is not in the refrigerator, the freezer, any cupboard, the pantry, the trash, the recycles, the bathroom vanity, the clothes hamper.  Everything has been moved around to make sure it's not hiding behind something.  I'm convinced the only way it will turn up is when I buy another one.   ;)

I'm home!  And I'd like to just stay.  It was a usual VERY busy Friday and I'm glad I'm not there any more.

Sandy, I'm going to adopt that baby until I get some great grands of my own.  And my guess is that she'll be in college and I'll be in Heaven (I hope) before that ever happens.

Now I'm going to rest before it's time to pick up TLH because she's bringing a friend today.  Her friend is spending the night at her house so I'll only have them until her mother lets me know she's home.  Gonna be busy around here for about an hour.

A good Friday afternoon to EVERYFRIEND.

I did not get in to post last night......I was in a bit of a funk having managed to leave my purse in a place that I could not get back in to until today at noon.  I am feeling less and less confidant in myself, however, I do realize that there were extenuating circumstances that were the issue, hence WHY I forgot it.  I took Granddaughter Kate to her cheer leading class........I had her jacket in my hand and was helping her get it on and then just walked out and forgot the purse.  My car has auto unlocking and start with a key fob that was in my pocket, so did not miss the purse until we were home.  Panic set in as you can well imagine......Bob put a hold on the charge card and bank card, so that was easy to do.  We have now called them and told them the purse is back in my possession and are safe.  I am so lucky it was there and the lady that owns the place was able to meet me there at noon today.

Contratulations, SANDY, AKA, GeGe on the birth of that sweet little bundle of joy, FeFe, AKA, "Ophelia Winter Chase".  I am so happy for you and for the family of this little sweet heart.  I hope you have had the opportunity to see and hold her by now.

When we went to pick up the grands to take them to school this morning, Michele was looking much better than she did yesterday.  She is trooper and continues to be very sore with the incisions, port and surgery location that is held together with 9 staples.

A good day to you, Mr. Kelly, who is popping in and out.

JEANNE LEE, I, too, have had some good chuckles as to the where about of that bottle of Wesson Oil.

JUNE DEAR, have you thought about telling the powers that be that you folks there at your home are RETIRED and therefore have no need to up and ready for anything at 6 AM??  Even though many of us ARE up that time of day, it doesn't mean we are ready to face the world! The staff there seem to be very kind and that is wonderful.  I hope the soreness of that tooth is gone pronto!

CALLIE, happy that the new flowers are looking fantastic!

It has been snowing since early this morning, but so far nothing sticking on the roads...........

off to pick up the grands from school.......have a great rest of your day.

Jenny

Jeanne Lee--For sure if you buy a new bottle of oil, the other will turn up.

Mary Ann--I won't have any great grands while I am alive.  My two oldest grandchildren are 27 and 28 and have no aspirations to marry at this time.  They are busy pursuing their chosen careers.

Janie--Hopefully you got a nap before you had to pick the girls up.  Edit:  Glad you survived the girls visit.

Jennie--You were lucky you got your purse back intact, but I can imagine the anxiety.  GREAT that Michele looked so much better today, but no fun to have so much soreness.

Today I made an appointment with a podiatrist I have yet to meet. He will not be here till early in June, but that's O.K. the days go by so quickly it will be here before I know it. In the meantime I'm still able to control the nail growth with a large size emery board.

Had a quiet day today, a nice afternoon nap, just the way I like it. I will go down for supper tonight since I had soup at home for lunch, and they are having very tender and tasty salmon on the menu.

I guess we will never know who or what the culprit is who took our Jeanne's Wesson Oil. One of those great mysteries that occur in our lives. Let's keep the page of the book open though, even though the jury is out, the case is still open.

Hal, I hope you are going to come in with some good news on the test you had done today. It would be interesting to Know if you are "glowing" or not.

About time for me to stroll down for supper, and some of you are preparing for an early bed time. I shall return. June

Well, I got back home about 3:30 this afternoon and I am give out.  They gave me an IV at about 8:30 and told me to come back at 1PM for the scan(s).  In the meantime drink at least 40 ozs of water.  The water is to flush the excess radioactivity out of your system.  But I drank much more than 40 oz.  My son in law and myself went to the hospital cafeteria and had breakfast and sat and talked until about 10 and then back to the clinic and between drinking water and going to the bathroom time went by quickly.  Anyhow they finally called me in about 1:20 and got started do the scan(s).  After about 3 or 4 he told me he would check with radiologist and see if he needed anything re-done or different.  Came back and said doctor wanted one more of my back area but he couldn't do it on this machine, went to one that did a CAT scan and bone scan at same time.  It took over 30 minutes and with my arms above my head.  I didn't think I was going to make it.  But I did and I had to use the bathroom again and had to get dressed before going down the hall.  Anyhow after checking with the doctor he came back and told me that they had all the images they needed and they would give results to my doctor.  I was give out.  So June, you now know as much as I do.  The exam is over and results will be forthcoming.  And no I am not glowing and they make men sit to pee so you don't splash the radioactive material around the area.  And I got a card to carry for a few days to tell security people if I set off an alarm that I have been radiated and to call such and such number for verification.

Anyhow, everyone, I am off to bed.

Nite, nite,  God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Hal thank you very much for the detailed report on your radiated scans and xrays. I can feel how tired you must be, so rest well this night and take tomorrow off to just be patient with your healing. Sitting down to urinate reminds me of when my boys were very young I would sit them on the toilet facing the back of the toilet so the urine went down in the proper direction. It worked too.

I had a delicious salmon dinner tonight, then went on to view the movie "Running the Sahara". It had some very fascinating scenery of the desert, but I am trying to figure out why three adult men would run in the desert for over one hundred days, each one lost 40 pounds, they abused their bodies with injuries and ran anyway. But I don't know why. What was the purpose, where did they get the funding as they had trucks with all the needed gear following their paths, it must have cost a fortune, but that was never explained. I'm glad I saw it through to the ending though.

Now it is nearly ten o'clock so I had better go to bed and read myself to sleep. I did have a good nap earlier in the afternoon, so may need to read a few extra chapters tonight.

I love you all and pray you have a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow..good night hugs and prayers are coming your way. June

New Things to Ponder

Why are you IN a movie, but you are ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

How come we choose from just two people for President and fifty for Miss America?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.

If a 911 operator has a heart attack, whom does s/he call?

I signed up for an exercise class and was told to wear loose-fitting clothing. If I HAD any loose- fitting clothing, I wouldn't have signed up in the first place!

Being Modest
(By Rev. Eric McGrath)

I recently read an article that came via one of the e-mail outlets I receive mail from concerning the attire that is springing up in churches and the distraction it is causing for worshippers in services. It spoke of the clothing styles that are being worn, particularly by ladies, which cause this distraction.

While encouraging all of us to be sure that we are wearing clothing that is modest - both male and female - and not be a distraction to a brother or sister, who has come to church to worship our great God, I would like to mention two other areas.

First, as believers, it should be our desire at all times to be edifying in our conduct and deportment - and in all places. So this doesn't just apply at church - it is a matter that I should consider wherever I am - home, shopping, beach, etc.

A simple question in this regard is this - "Who am I dressing for?" Am I dressing to draw the attention of the opposite sex or am I dressing to please my heavenly Father, who is in heaven? There is no doubt about it that He encourages modesty.

But secondly, there is no doubt about the fact that He also wants us to understand that it is the inner man's beauty that ought to be on display, not the outward appearance. Do I want people to see only my body, or do I want to give them a chance to discover the real person that I am, who resides in that body?

Fathers, we need to help our wives and daughters understand the effect that skimpy clothing has on a man's mind. Yes, a Christian man has an obligation to keep his mind from impure thoughts, but we need your help, Christian sisters. God has created man to be stimulated by sight - in the right context.

And Christian men, we need to also reflect a godly attitude in our attire as well. Men's beach attire, for example, has been hit by the stylist's scissors, too. We too, have an obligation to our sisters. We live in a world that has turned things upside down and we need to be careful that we are not causing any woman to have impure thoughts about us.

Being stylish and being sensuous are not necessarily synonymous terms. It is possible to be quite stylish while maintaining a high degree of modesty.

So let's reaffirm our commitment to the Lord and a life lived for Him. And also reaffirm our commitment to one another, and seek to be builders and not destroyers of another's walk with the Lord. If it means some adjustments in our wardrobe, so be it! Better to discard an item of immodesty, than cause a brother or sister to stumble because of it!

It's enough that we all have to deal with what the world throws at us in this regard, without getting hit with it from a brother or sister in the Lord.

Blessings, Eric

Halkel, oh what a long drawn out experience yesterday turned into...two hours between your first scan and your second, and such a long day....I would like to say a lesson taught about drinking so much water before going inside a scanner, but, I think you have learnt your lesson to go steady next time, if at all all there is a next time......

I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you now await the verdict.....

I remember my late father after he had surgery for cancer on his penis, he said they had almost sliced it in two, and he could no longer wee like a man but had to wee like a lady....
................................................

Joan, to hear you say those words..." on this last day of April..." wow another month and we will almost be half through the year....
................................................

Jenny, that is sure an ordeal  that Michelle had gone through, and no wonder the poor young girl is feeling so sore, she has reason too but....along with this she has gotten herself through, and over the worst and now on the road to recovery...God bless her and look after her and her future with her young children...

Jenny, what a worry to ave mislayed your purse but so thankful you knew where you had left it and that the people there were trustworthy and hones to have held onto it for your collection...that was sure luck...
.................................................

I got Benji ready for a short downhill slope walk this morning, got outside the door, down the steps, off the curb, took a few very slow steps with difficulty, then realised I had left the poop bags indoors which in hindsight done me a a favour as I know If I had of continued by myself, I would have gotten into trouble as my MS and walking has gotten worse now....

But R offered me again to walk Benji, ( after I had stopped in long enough to have had breakfast....) This time with Benji's help we walked uphill, up the driveway slope....... But I had real trouble by the time I had reached as far as I intended going, mid way,.....when of getting back down again, this time without Benji....I was much slower, doddery-er and dizzy...
.....................................................

Good morning Everyfriend, especially Kelly who wished me a good morning yesterday.....

Joan, thank you for the offer of breakfast but I already had that this morning but, if I can find a vacant seat on our patio area, I would sure help myself to some blueberries, strawberries and raspberries....

What a long time for you at the hospital.  I hope that you find out the scan results as soon as possible.

Rest as much as you can after a very tiring day.

Good morning, Lloyd.  We still have not gotten any rain.

Good morning, Kelly.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  This year sure is speeding by.  Nice that you could at least have a short walk.  There's plenty of seats on the PWP and plenty of berries.

Good morning, Amy.  You sure get your laundry out on the line early.  Here it's just getting light, and soon the sun will be out.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's only 43º here this morning and only going up into low 60s today.  But I guess I can wait for the really hot weather.  I'll have a brief respite in Texas in about 2 weeks.  Maybe I'll even get a swim in the pool!

Hal, we'll all wait with you on pins and needles until you have the results of your tests.  We will also be praying for good results.

Amy, I can almost smell the freshness of the laundry from the clothesline.  I don't have any outside lines to hang anything but I often lay my bed pillows on the swing in the yard to freshen them and it smells so good when I go to bed.

I feel rested this morning and my plan for the day is to shorten 2 pairs of pants and iron some shorts for my trip.  Not a huge order but tomorrow afternoon will be busier and Monday will be even busier.  So this will be my day of rest.

And I'm off to feed the doggies and get started on "things"!

NOTE: I've sent the rain somewhere!  Now it's up to all you who need it to look up and ask it to come down.

Hi everyone as another Saturday is upon us.  We are once again to get to 90 degrees or above with only a 20% chance of any showers today.  I have been awake since 4 am this morning and about 6 am I picked up my phone and read my email and the discussion boards before getting up and dressed for the day.

I plan on making a quick trip to Lowe's for a tomato stake and a stop at the cleaner's to pick up a sports coat I left there a couple of weeks ago.  I should get a haircut but think I will wait until next week sometime.  I hope to get some reading done today as well.

Yesterday we didn't get out of the doctor's office from the 9:45 appointment until a few minutes before 11 am.  We then went to Office Depot as Pat had a new quilting book she wanted fixed with a spiral binder and then tried to find Harbor Freight and JoAnn's Fabrics, which are at the same location, but the GPS led us onto a one lane road that was a dead end.  We gave up the search and headed back home but stopped at Texas Roadhouse for a good meal and Pat didn't have to cook last evening.

Joan, Pat's labs were good but the doctor has now ordered a chest x-ray and wants to see her again next Friday.  The Food for Thought today (Being Modest) is certainly a good one.

Jackie, it is hard to understand how having a hereditary condition like MS has anything to do with selfishness.  If you take that idea to a logical conclusion, assuming you had known this might be a possibility, you perhaps would not have had a daughter and thus not a grandson.  Family situation are often difficult.

Amy, I think you have probably come up with the best idea as to what happened to Jeanne's bottle of oil that is missing.  :)

JaneS, I got a picture of my oldest great grandchild, a young man of 13 who is already 5'10" tall.  He is now taller than I am.

Jenny, I didn't realize you could put a hold on credit cards.  That was sure a lot better than having them cancelled and going through the hassle of a new card number.  Glad you got your purse back and all was well.  I saw on the news last night pictures of your snow in Colorado.

Hal, glad that testing is over and what a long day.  I had a nuclear test several years ago where I had to keep my arms above my head for about 45 minutes and it sure wasn't fun and the table wasn't comfortable.  When I had the seeding done on the prostate cancer I went home with a strainer and also was told to stay away from small children for several days.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well got a decent nights rest, it stormed, well thundered, during the night but it didn't really bother me, I just turned over and back to sleep. Things are drippy out. I put the recycle bin out.  The gate to my backyard refuses to close, it is swollen with the rain.  So it looks like I have barricaded myself in.  Stuffed stacked at the bottom to keep the dogs in.  Oh for the services of a good handyman.  Cant find anyone to do small jobs.

Janie, I am afraid you will have plenty of warmth when you come down this way.  Although with all the wet weather things have been pretty cool.  Only one 90 degree day that I can recall.

Amy, you are a ball of fire.  You never sit still it seems.  Up before daylight and doing the washing.  Many years ago when in Ottawa and with three little ones, two in diapers, I can remember hanging out diapers in freezing weather and them getting stiff as a board, but did dry.   And the smelled good.  I wonder what ever happen to all those diapers.  We had a ton of them.

Thanks to all of you for keeping me in your prayers.  It is comforting to know.
Joanie, what have you got on tap for today?  I am not doing much.  My middle daughter is here from Del Rio this weekend and everyone is coming over Sunday for dinner, wife is fixing ribs.......yummmy.

Good Morning Kelly.  Hope your day is going well.

Jackie, know that your MS makes life difficult, to say the least, but stick to what exercise you can manage.  Take your walker out with you.  If you get tired then you can rest with it handy.  Dogs may have to be retrained some to learn what they can do when you are on the walker with them.

June, you are snoozing away there on the left coast.  I see some of the folks are giving Trump a warm welcome...... :2funny:  Never saw so many Mexican flags in my life.  If they love that country so much why are they up here flying their flag?

Well coffee is ready, who wants a cup.  I'll meet you on the patio and bring the pot out.

Well if its not one thing its another........Yesterday my top of right leg, groin area was going ten to the dozen, more than usual since over the past year or so.... so I phoned an MS Nurse, a Nurse I have'nt actually got yet,....One phoned back and asked me to describe in detail,... I told her, " here we go again..." she didn't like that......I told her of spasm'ing, "she told me to use my words litely.....then went on to explain this and that as she went on to say she knows fully well of leg spasming....I quick as a flash said..." why do you have MS as well? " she said NO, but I do have blah blah blah? I rest my case....

She did tell me to ring my GP and ask for a referral to Musculoskeletal....so another to add to my medical portfolio....

Although she did say one encouraging statement....my leg problem could be to do with my neck...I told her, strange thing when washing my hair over a sink or a bath, I have to position my leg....and I always thought this was to do when I bend my head down but, now I know its from the neck being tilted so...I do believe there is a connection, re, the nerve....

halkel--Good morning.  I just got done putting groceries away, and that's about it for today.  Enjoy having some of your family for a rib supper.

Vanilla-Jackie--Interesting that you can call on Saturday and get information about your medical problems.

Joan, these conversations took place yesterday....It will be hard to get hold of anyone over the next few days, we have a Bank Holiday weekend......

I was packing up a parcel ready to take to the post office when I noticed the only returns label, the other was missing said " please affix the correct postage..." as I used a code for my order giving me free delivery and free returns I was on that phone stating I don't have a car, I have MS, the post office is quite some distance and I have to rely on someone to take me..." do you not have a courier who will come and collect, it was a courier company who delivered it...The man said we can arrange this, and gave me another phone number and told me to phone Tuesday, I said aren't they open today, no was the answer, they are now closed all over the Bank Holiday...This wasn't collection pick-up, but for them to send me a label first....so at this rate it will be end of next week before it gets collected, then another few days, week, before I am refunded back into my bank account...

Good morning all, Had a great sleep, a happy morning and I plan to spend most of the day at home. I will get out for walks though..that is and essential.

Most of you have heard me talk about my wonderful kids..Dan and Nancy, Gary and Dori. Dan and Nancy do not have a web site. Gary and Dori do, so in case you would like to meet them, here is the place to visit.  http://www.sbcwestminster.org/meet-the-staff/

Today I must fill my medicine weekly doses boxes, I now have two of them….a second was a gift from a friend. I do not enjoy this chore, but it is necessary, so I will get it done. Also I am yelling at myself to Answer Letters !! So hopefully I will do both duties today.

Now I will proceed to find out what the rest of you have had to say today.

Janie, we are having a high of 69 degrees today. I like that. So far some sun, then cloudy, no sun again. Nights run about mid fifties. Just right. I too miss my clothes line, but I would  have trouble hanging laundry while using a cane. Is your ill doggy all happy again ? I hope so.

Hal, I feel the same way about all the strange flags. We never know. Politicians do hire people to fly flags, trying to convince those folks they support the candidate. It is a deceitful game all around. I watched about a half hour and that was enough. Have a good time with your family tomorrow and enjoy the ribs !

I have had my enjoyable time with all of you, now I will get the body over to the other desk and do those blasted med boxes. See you later…..

June, thanks for asking about my Annie.  She has a bit of an infection in the glands but the Vet gave her an antibiotic which she is still taking and she is already much better.

AH!  Amy, what a pleasure to have sheets blown dry by the Spring winds!  I remember those days!

Jenny, been there, done that!  What a frustration!

Cathy and I just got back from the Mall.  I returned 2 pairs of the pants that I bought the other day when I went there.  And I bought 2 pairs of Capris and two shells for under the blouses I bought the other day.  Now I'm finished!  No more buying until I get to Texas and Cindy and I hit the outlets.  Shoes first!

What a lovely day this has been - sunny, just a bit of a breeze and cool enough to be comfortable in jeans and a long-sleeved shirt.

There was a "neighborhood exchange" (translate: garage sale - put your stuff out in your driveway :) ).  I didn't put anything out and I didn't buy anything but I had nice visits with the three participating neighbors on my street and those from the two other streets who had come "shopping".

Later in the morning the next-door neighbor and I were both in our back yards and chatted "over the garden gate" (literally - since her back fence is just high enough to keep the dog in.

Everyone closed down by early afternoon so I was able to go to the dairy store and Walgreen's.

Dinner will be "fridge fallout" so no cooking necessary.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a pleasant evening and a restful night's sleep with pleasant dreams.

"Fridge Fallout" here, too, Callie.  Sometimes that beats cooking!

Amy, right up the road a piece we have a distributor that supplies most of the candy counters in the area.  They also have catering supplies and the stuff to fill the Slushie machines at almost every quick food place in a 50 mile radius.  The nice thing is that anyone can walk in and buy candy at the same price that they sell it to dealers.  I love gummy bears and you can get a 5 lb. bag of them for right around 6 bucks.  They last me forever!  I have to be careful not to be hungry when I go there.

I better get to w**k or I won't be ready to go.  I broke my last needle shortening a pair of white jeans that I bought last summer and never got around to shortening.  I bought needles and I want to finish that job tonight.  Also have a bit of ironing.  I thought I try watching TV and doing that.  If that doesn't work, I'll "think about that tomorrow'.

Whatever you do with the rest of your evening, try to enjoy it.

Another day is drawing to a close. It has been a beautiful day, Thanks be to God. I was so involved in sorting out my medications I didn't get down for lunch, so went for supper again. Had a HUGE chicken breast..brought half of it home, baked potato, carrot and apple salad, big glass of tomato juice, coffee and cake. Then later went down for Hymn singing, led by our Pastor here at Rowntree. Tomorrow is Church, then early dinner and then home to just relax.

I hope you all had a very good day, and tonight a good rest. Keep well and be happy and thankful. God loves you, so sleep in peace. I send you Love, hugs, and Prayers. June
