Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend  There's a full breakfast to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “A Summer Day” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Top Ten Reasons to Come to Church Even Though It's Summer
(By L. Lee Sissel)

10. Because praying for a 10 foot putt does NOT constitute an active prayer life.
9. Because saving people from the "heat" is what Christianity is all about!
8. Because this week's absentee equals next week's sermon illustration.
7. Because you helped pay for the church's central air conditioning, you might as well enjoy it!
6. Because your quest to make the immortal words, "Give me wax for my board, keep me surfing for the Lord," a lifestyle choice, just hasn't been as "gnarly" as you thought it would be!
5. Because the combination of sweaty bare legs and varnished pews makes you feel like you're suffering for the cause of Christ!
4. Because the youth minister is preaching for the month of August and someone has to keep a record of his inappropriate illustrations and theological blunders!
3. Because all new sermons are a big plus in a season of reruns!
2. Because it makes your day to see the preacher sweat!

And the number one reason to come to church even though it is Summer is:

1. Because when we say that Jesus is the Lord of our lives, we do NOT mean 9/12ths of our lives!

Food For Thought

All Things Possible
(By Michael Newnham)

The announcement came this week that Rogie Vachon had been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. I had tears in my eyes as I joyously posted the news on social media.

It drew the expected yawn from most, but it was a big deal to me.

You see, Vachon taught me something very important.

I was 15 and I had never been more than 50 miles from home; had never crossed the state border. The tallest building I had ever seen was the five story whorehouse/hotel in downtown Medford. (I had never been inside, though it was also acclaimed as a steakhouse...)

Now, I was standing outside the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California waiting for my hero, Vachon to appear.

Standing next to me was the radio voice of the Los Angeles Kings, Bob Miller.

A week before I would have considered such a scene improbable at best, and virtually impossible except in a young mans dreams.

I had "met" Miller as we were at the common urinal at the Forum...when I realized who it was, I stammered out a request for an autograph.

"Perhaps when we're finished", he graciously answered.

When we finished, he signed my game program and asked where I was from.

He could tell I wasn't from LA...

He told me where to go after the game to wait for the players...I didn't know he would wait there with me.

As each King came out he would introduce me..."this is Michael from Oregon...Michael, meet Dan Corrigan...and Whitey Widing...and Danny Maloney"...and on and on.

Finally, the one we all had been waiting for came out... "Rogie...Michael came here from Oregon"...I went deaf after that.

I handed the program to Vachon to sign and my pen ran out of ink half way through...he saw me panic, smiled, and took from his suit pocket the most elegant silver pen I had ever seen.

He finished signing the program, autographed a puck for me, then handed me the pen. "There may be someone else you want to sign...you'll need this". He then moved on to the rest and was still signing when we finally left.

I told you all that to tell you this...

My friends asked me what I thought of this magical night...and what I thought I had learned was that all things are possible...

I lived from that moment on believing that no matter how improbable something was, all things are possible.

I learned later in life that God agreed with me...

However...

What I should say is that I lived that way, believing that truth...until I turned about 50.

Then the belief changed to all things WERE possible.

Back then...back before age and affliction started robbing my vitality of body and spirit...back then, all things were possible.

Those days are gone. The possibilities are limited now.

That is a lie from the pit of hell!

If you belong to God, then as long as you're breathing, all things are possible in Him and through Him.

The dreams will be different, the goals more fluid...but if He's called you to do or be something, then you will be and do those things.

The enemy wants you to believe it's over.

The Lord may say we're just getting started.

The end of things may be greater than the beginning...

I wrote this for me, more than for you.

Congratulations and God Bless You, Rogie.

Good morning everyone.

A beautiful morning here, sun is shining ,no humidity and a much cooler temp...54° but I am sure it will climb back up fast. I am sitting here with the widows open ,the breeze blowing in and the birds singing...especially the crow and her 4 babies .Not much of a song from them ,babies as big as the mom and they are squawking to be fed!!

A day of rest here today,I had one of these yesterday too, just did the essentials and went and sewed.Perfect day

Phyllis ,the graphic looks so inviting.

Jane good morning to you. I finally got a good nights sleep,no storm to keep the dogs (and me) up.

Jackie, love your dogs and how happy they both look. That is a nice park to enjoy, thank you for sharing.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone

Good morning everyone, rained over night and just heard local news, might have thunderstorms this afternoon and summer temperatures return tomorrow. At least the AC has had a break.

JANE  I have frozen food  with eggs in them but not raw eggs by themselves. Glad the day improved for you yesterday.

JENNY  many years ago when my 3 were still young we traveled up the coast of Maine and stayed in a cabin overnight. Not far from the ocean and there was a stream nearby rushing to the ocean. We sat on the little porch in the dusk and could hear that water rushing down. Could hear it inside when we went to bed. So peaceful.

JUNE  I have seen several of Andre Rieu videos on youtube. He is good.

SHIRLEY  with every thing that has been on TV about everyone going in a boat of any kind wearing a life jacket there is always someone who doesn't pay attention. Sad.

PHYLLIS  I would love to be there in your graphic, in shade with a nice breeze, might even doze there. Thanks for sharing your talent.

JOAN  I am ready for your full breakfast this morning. Your chuckles this morning is already copied to send on. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  in the upper 50's here when I woke, now 62°.

Good morning,  Joan.  The breakfast choice today is very welcomed.

Good morning to Amy, Jane and Gloria, also.

Jane, Hope you will have a better day.  Hope it is as beautiful up your way, as it is down here in Carroll County, Md.  Just a beautiful morning.

Hope everyone will enjoy Joan's breakfast this morning.  You will have a lot of choices, it sounds like.

Janie--Good morning.  Of course, I put that there just for you.:)

Good morning, Amy.  54° would be nice.  It's already 82° at my house.  It's about time for those baby bird to "fly the nest" it seems.

Gloria--Good morning.  No rain here--darn.   I'll bet if you "google" you'll get many hits about how to freeze eggs.  Enjoy your cool weather.

Good morning, Joy.  Enjoy the "full" breakfast.:)

I value those of you here and thank you for your appreciation of the graphic I send to Joan for her to show each Sunday morning.  I make graphics for my own pleasure but when others seem to enjoy them then my pleasure is doubled.

It has been hot and very humid here for several days, but many of you have the same weather so I won't complain too much.  This time of year is just something that has to be gotten through, I think.  I am grateful that the A/C makes it comfortable inside house, car, or store.  Jenny, I loved living in Colorado during summer because even though it got hot it would always be cool and pleasant in the shade and the nights were usually blanket weather.  And, best of all, the humidity level was low.

Shirley, it is sad to hear about the young man who has apparently disappeared in the river.  The last time I saw the Arkansas it was so dry that they had to call off the annual boat parade because there wasn't enough water for the boats to stay afloat but, I know when it is running full it can be dangerous.

Jane, we all have "punk" days.  Things pile up on us until everything seems too hard to even think about much less find a way out.  We just get through those dark days until something comes along to make the days brighter.  Hope your brighter days are not too far away.

I don't use the rollator inside my house either, June, but on some days I would be smarter and safer if I did.  I'm glad your fall wasn't disastrous and that you are getting such good attention.  That must be a lovely place to live.

I hear David stirring around upstairs so I must be off and thinking about breakfast.  Fruit juice and bowls of mixed fresh fruit (blue berries, strawberries, apples, mandarin oranges, red grapes) and warm cinnamon rolls with real butter this morning.  Y'all come!

Hi everyone.  It looks like today will be a repeat of yesterday and the last several days as it is going to probably get to the century mark temperature wise.  I had my first South Carolina peach of the season this morning and it was so good and juicy I had to stand over the kitchen sink to eat it.  I also had a big dish of watermelon and the nutrition bar and nutrition drink for breakfast so I am ready for the day.  I will be going to Sunday School and Church alone as Pat isn't yet up to going and sitting on those hard chairs in Sunday School and the pew in Church. However, she is beginning to feel better so maybe in a few more days she will be OK.  Nothing else planned for today.

Hal, I think you are right that people seem to think free things grow on trees.  Someone has to pay for them.  Attitudes have certainly changed over what was the norm when I was growing up in terms of welfare and getting something free and expecting it to be a right.  I do believe we should take care of those who legitimately can't support themselves but when you read that close to $100 million people have just dropped out of the workforce it sends a big message.

Joan, I still have one bird on the nest and it may be she is sitting on eggs and there will be a new crop of birds to watch (and clean up after).

Gloria, I agree with you about how foolish it is when pride keeps someone from doing things like using the walker or  rolator when needed.  It reminds me of old saying from Proverbs that "Pride goes before a fall".  When the price of eggs got so high Pat froze some and they were fine.  She froze them in a muffin pan and then put them in a bag for future use in baking or having scrambled eggs.

Jackie, nice pictures from what was obviously an enjoyable day for you all.  Glad you were up to getting and going to that park.

June, I would be personally alarmed if my blood pressure reading was much about 100.  They must be concerned about your pressure if they awake you in the middle of the night to take it.   Was the Andre Rieu program the one where a bull walks down the isle and then chases a lady in the red dress?  There was a lot of laughter on that one.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I sure do appreciate the graphics you make and send me for use here in the SS.  Your breakfast sounds sooooooo good.  I'll fire up my broom and be there to join you in a jiffy.

Larry--Good morning.  Hope Pat continues to get a bit better each day.  Yes--the birds are cute but they do usually make a mess.  I haven't had a GA peach this year and will have to check to see if Publix has any.

Good Morning from a cloudy Inteior day with a clammy feel to it.

To freeze individual eggs, a simple way is to use a standard or silicone ice cube tray, Whisk the egg and pour it into the tray. You can freeze them and then pop the frozen eggs from the tray for use or after freezing, place them in a bag for later use.

We are under an alert for a series of brief but violent thunder showers with hail this afternoon and evening. Since hail is a rarity here, I'm a bit skeptical.

Joan, I've seen hail here perhaps three times in my sixty-five years, but, I would have been skeptical of seeing any ice storm here and we have had three since 2005. I can no longer claim any type of knowledge of the weather here. We rarely even have snow or not that much of it these past years and this is part of the Arctic, for goodness sake!

So this will the the day that was. I will stagger down to Church after stopping at the clinic for the last b.p. check of the series. If I stay awake I will go to lunch after Church. Then is will see what the day brings. It is sunny this morning, so will be a warmer day, alas. I like cool.

Sad news about the young man dying in saving another. Just like some of our police in Texas.

Joan, I think you missed breakfast because it was just David and me at the table.  Couldn't you get your broom started?  :laff:   How about coming for dinner around 5-5:30?  I'm having Low Country Boil--without the shrimp because I forgot to get some, and without the crab because I'm not fond of it.  I do have Old Bay, red potatoes, corn on the cob, and hot sausage.  That will take care of today and give us some leftovers for a couple of days.  And maybe, before I set the pot on to boil, I'll run out and get some shrimp.  We'll see.

Beautiful weather here today...only 74º for the high.

Just checking in. I did not go to Church even though I was up and dressed and ready to leave. Just felt like I was pushing a button that could cause a problem. So I changed into leisure clothing and am staying home. This body is determined that it is going to rule in what it allows me to do and what not to do.

Don, as far as the walker/rollator is concerned, I never leave home without it, but I felt in the apartment, there was always a wall, a chair , a desk.....something to reach out to  if necessary. Well this time it didn't work. I reached out to the chair but it was just a couple inches too far away, so down I went. So I had my lesson learned and if i stand, the walker is right there to hang onto. And if that should start to take off, the hand brakes are right there under my fingers and they work very well.

I hated missing Church and Sunday dinnner, but it couldn't be helped. I had a bowl of soup and some potato salad at home. Now it is time for a nap.

Good afternoon, rained durning the night, I just have the windowns open now.  Looks like rain any min. now.

Gloria, I wore a light sweather yesterday, setting on the sun porch.
When I use to freeze eggs, I always broke the yoke, then put them in a continer.

Joan, enjoyre reading church post. thanks

Phyllis, I always enjoy your graphics.  I always like to go out on my lounge on the sunporch and read,  Where I am headed when I finish here. I am tired also, it is oly 3:30, and I have had 3 differnt neighbors in to visit.  Last night the neighbor across the street had a BBQ, and bought me over a big plate of food. Including steak, and salad.

Larry hope Pat keeps feeling better.  I seem not to feel that great when the weather is so hot. We had up to 90 twice last week, yesterday low 70's
I watch the Hallmark channels all the timealso Barney Miller, Murder She wrote late at night.
Amy, glad to see you slept well last night,  I was up a 4, watched soom TV.

Some one is at the door again, have to go

Don. the only thing that bothers me on the Rollators is. I have 2 friends  who had their knees done. Both were using them. Now they have a bigger problem. Their backs are giving trouble. I suppose bending when walking with the Rollator could cause it.
Both now weight close to 300 lbs and I blame that. Not about to tell them though.

People do not realize just how much
added pounds affects ones body.....

I only realize it now that I have lost 50 pounds...
(and still have more to go)... I walk better, sleep better,
and feel better now that the weight has come off.

I am really looking forward to when I begin again
losing  the rest of it...  Which right now seems to be
in a holding pattern...    But I am determined
to keep loosing again soon.

(Knowing just how much better I feel, having
lost the first 50!)

You are correct though,   telling someone
else what they should do,  just does not
work.     The desire and the will to loose
weight,  and continue to do so,   must come
from with in.   (Like giving up any
other bad habit)

Sandy, I totally agree with what you're saying. Telling someone what they already know is seen as unwanted and unfair criticism.  It is the same as many years ago when I lost 168 pounds. Many of the remarks made while probably meant as complementary I took as insensitive and insulting and they made me uncomfortable.

The Pharoah returned to Egypt on July 7th and I have been straightening up the house for a few days.  While he was here, he thoroughly cleaned our large basement, donated a lot of what he called "treasures" to local organizations, offered to donate some more to the fellows who mow the lawn regularly - they were absolutely thrilled ! - traveled to Maryland to visit friends for about a week, which gave me some time to take a deep breath! ;)

The hot weather we had (and continue to have) did not see, to bother Mohamed as he had become accustomed to the 100+ temps in Egypt.  I sure kept the AC working regularly!  Friends came to visit, neighbors shared some beautiful Watermelon and Cantaloupe to welcome Mohamed and we had great visits.  Our former landlord offered to take Mohamed to the Charlotte airport when he departed on the 7th, which was a great relief for me.

I received an email from my son ("Chaps") at his current post in Korea, but could not access the photo included in the email.  I sure feel sorry about that, but it was good to hear from him even without the attachment.

I planned recently to donate some of my business clothes to a local society and spent some time trying on suits, etc.  Sure surprised me as it appears I've lost about two sizes!  In retirement I'm much more a "blue jeans Lady" and that's fine with me!

Still dealing with the intense head pains and have an appointment with my Dr. soon.  Doesn't seem there is much he can suggest to get the pains to disappear, so being the Irish Gal that I am, I just deal with it.

Interesting to read the recent posts and hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend with many blessings still to come.

angelface--Wow--you did lost a lot of weight.  Congratulations.

Molly--Mohamed was sure busy while he was in the US.  Too bad you couldn't open the picture Chaps sent, but at least you could read the mail.  I wish you could get relief from those head pains you've suffered with for so long.

June I only use my cane in the apartment because there is not enough room to maneuver my rollator
JeanneP I see many people stooped over as they use their walkers and I believe there is no need for that.  You can stand erect if you put your mind to it. I stooped at first but soon discovered there was no reason for it other than my own lack of discipline to stand up straight and walk the same way.

Don, I agree, too many people lean over when they use a walker. I keep reminding myself to stand tall. Pulling in the stomach muscles almost makes one stand straight.

I have had a completely wasted day....so far.....still would hope to get some letters written to mail off. I slept for three hours this afternoon, and do not want to do anymore of that. Then I would have trouble sleeping at night, I'm sure.

Molly, Mohammed did a fine job of getting some of his things out of the basement. And I'm happy you heard from Chaps. The older we get the more we value our "kids".

Regarding walkers, I had the height of my walker adjusted so that
I stand straight.  At first was not aware that legs could be lengthened
And was not at all comfortable in a lean over position.

It certainly gives some security when moving about.

JOAN  I never think of going to Google for anything.

PHYLLIS  it has been cool and damp here the last few days but the summer heat is in the forecast in the next couple of days. I know I look forward to Sunday mornings to see what you have made for us this week. Then I enjoy seeing what you post in the Card Shoppe, too.

LARRY  I am not too proud to use my rollator all the time. I rather do that than fall an have to call for help to get up. Would love to have a fresh tree ripened peach. When we get them here in the market they are very hard. By the time they get soft they are not very tasty or juicy.

PATRICIA  I have 2 extra ice cube trays I could use to do the eggs that way. Will have to try it the next time I have a fresh dozen of them. I get them from a farm  but I don't like to keep them too long. I don't eat as much of them like I used to and hate throwing them away after sitting in the fridge for a couple of months. They cost more than at the markets.

DON  getting the rollator was smart. Is it easier getting into doors? I learned fast how to back into a doorway holding the door open.

JUNE  I usually go outside to walk a few times a day but today when my son left I did not go out with him. Just stayed inside. This damp weather is not nice to my back.

GLORIA de  we have had rain overnight the last few nights. When I went to pull my shades down earlier I saw it was raining again.

JEANNE P  you do not have to walk bent over with a rollator it the handles are high enough. There are 2 men  here than bend over but one has a bad hip and waiting for the date for a replacement. They are both obese.

SANDY  I would love to add at least 20 pounds. I lost 50 without even trying but it was too much.

MOLLY  your head pains and my back. My doctor even wants me just to keep on doing what I am doing.

DON  when I got my rollator by son put it together and he set the handles low. It was not easy to hold and push it keeping my back straight. One of the men here saw how I was walking with it and said I should raise the handles. I did not know that could be done and he raised them and it made it so much easier to walk.

JUNEE I had the legs on mine put up as high as they can go.

Have a good night.

The lady at the health equipment store where I bought my rollator had me hold my arms straight down and then bend them straight out at the elbows without lifting my shoulders.  Then she adjusted the handles so my arms rested on them.
I do have to remember not to push it too far in front of me because that makes me bend forward.

No news from this corner.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Good Night and pleasant dreams.

CHUCKLES

This Is FAITH!

A boy was sitting on a park bench with one hand resting on an open Bible. He was loudly exclaiming his praise to God. "Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God is great!" he yelled without worrying whether anyone heard him or not.

Shortly after, along came a man who had recently completed some studies at a local university. Feeling himself very enlightened in the ways of truth and very eager to show this enlightenment, he asked the boy about the source of his joy.

"Hey" asked the boy in return with a bright laugh, "Don't you have any idea what God is able to do? I just read that God opened up the waves of the Red Sea and led the whole nation of Israel right through the middle."

The enlightened man laughed lightly, sat down next to the boy and began to try to open his eyes to the "realities" of the miracles of the Bible.

"That can all be very easily explained. Modern scholarship has shown that the Red Sea in that area was only 10-inches deep at that time. It was no problem for the Israelites to wade across."

The boy was stumped. His eyes wandered from the man back to the Bible laying open in his lap.

The man, content that he had enlightened a poor, naive young person to the finer points of scientific insight, turned to go. Scarcely had he taken two steps when the boy began to rejoice and praise louder than before.

The man turned to ask the reason for this resumed jubilation.

"Wow!" exclaimed the boy happily, "God is greater than I thought! Not only did He lead the whole nation of Israel through the Red Sea, He topped it off by drowning the whole Egyptian army in 10-inches of water!"

Food For Thought

The Mountain of Faith
(By Steve Troxel)

When Abraham was over eighty years old, God made him a wonderful promise: "A son coming from your own body will be your heir. Look up at the heavens and count the stars - so shall your offspring be" (Genesis 15:4-5).

Many years went by without any indication that God would fulfill this promise. Finally, when Abraham was one hundred years old, and his wife, Sarah, was ninety, God fulfilled His promise through the birth of Isaac. But when Isaac was a young boy, God told Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son.

Genesis 22:2 "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

We can't even imagine receiving this type of command from God. Abraham loved Isaac; and Isaac also represented the fulfillment of God's promise. But Abraham did not even question the apparent conflict between God's promise and His command...he simply believed and obeyed. Abraham took Isaac and climbed the mountain, placed him on top of a pile of wood, and "took the knife to slay his son" (Genesis 22:10).

Many people speculate about the turmoil in Abraham's mind during this time, but Scripture gives no indication that Abraham ever seemed anxious or concerned. He believed in God, believed His promises, and his faith never seemed to waver. As Abraham was about to kill his son, God stopped him and provided a ram as a substitute sacrifice (Genesis 22:13).

God put Abraham through an unimaginable test of faith...but why? The test was not for God - surely God already knew of Abraham's faith! It's possible the test was given in order to strengthen Abraham's faith. God often tests us as a way of refining and drawing us closer to Himself. But I believe [a] main reason for Abraham being asked to climb the mountain was so we would have a clear picture of what it means to believe and trust God.

Belief is central to the gospel message. It is so important that God gave a picture through Abraham which allows us to truly understand what Jesus meant when He said; "whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

God is calling us to believe. He is calling us to a life of faith where we have such a strong assurance of His presence that He is all we need...all we value and hold dear. Let's give ourselves completely to Him, without ANY reservation - let's truly believe! Let's give Him ALL our heart and be willing to sacrifice ALL for His glory and honor. Let's once and for all climb the mountain of faith.

Many of us are longing for clear direction from God. Although we probably pray that His direction doesn't require the sacrifice of Abraham, we're ready to follow and are in a mode of waiting. Waiting can be very frustrating and sometimes cause us to speed up God's timing. But we must continue to patiently seek the Lord, trust there is a purpose in the wait, continue to grow and mature, and be obedient to the things God has already given us to do. His direction will come - and when it does, we must be prepared to follow.

What would have happened if Abraham had become so focused on "the mission" that he failed to listen for the voice of the Lord? Abraham was being obedient to the call of God; but right at the point of absolute obedience, God changed direction; "Do not lay a hand on the boy" (Genesis 22:12).

The call of God is not a one time event; it's an ongoing, moment by moment relationship of love. We are never sent on a mission which leads us away from the presence of the Lord. Rather, we are called to follow, making the journey hand in hand, and step by step. Let's continue to grow ever closer to our Heavenly Father. Let's trust Him more, love Him more, and always, always, always, listen as we climb.

Thought of the Day

Remember that the right relationship is one where your love for each other is greater than your need for each other.

Hi everyone.  Today will be another 100 degree day.  We had quite a bit of thunder last evening but no rain so I had to turn on the sprinklers for early this morning.

Today will be a full day for me as I have three medical tests starting at 11:30 and the last one at 2 pm.  At least they are all in the same location, which is less than 20 minutes from our home.  I will have a Carotid Duplex Scan, the an Echocardiogram  and finally a Cardiac PET Scan.  I can't have anything to eat this morning nor take my normal medications until after the tests.

Pat had planned to so with me but I told her yesterday I didn't want her to go as she still isn't over the pains in her thigh and shoulder.  No reason for her to sit in uncomfortable chairs for three hours or more.

JaneS, Gloria and deAngel, I could use some of your cooler weather down this way.  I think this could well be a summer for the record books down here in terms of so many hot days.  At least today I should be able to park in a parking garage so my car won't be so hot when I finish the tests. DeAngel, it sounds like your neighbors are keeping a good check on you.

Molly, glad Mohamed had a safe trip back to Egypt and you have had some time to rest up and get away for a few days to visit friends.

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope Lloyd is okay and well.  No accidents.

Larry, it is going to be hot here today, as usual.  There is some rain around and I do mean around.  All around us but that old summer high just want let it come visi us.  Which reminds me to go turn the water on.  Water day.

Janie, I do hope you fulfill your quest and have a good day.

Joanie, did you leave me one of Amys muffins?  It will go good with my coffee, anyone want a cup?

Have a great day.

Good morning Jeanne Lee.  It's good to hear from you.  I know you need to rest after your recent ordeal.

Larry--Good morning.  We had thunder last night, too, but not a drop of rain.  You sure do have a busy day with those tests.  Hope all is well.

Good morning, halkel.  I don't have to mess with the sprinkling system.  HOA takes care of that.  Of course I left some of Amy's muffins.  I only took ONE.:)

Good morning everyone, hope you all slept good and woke full of energy. Cannot remember the last time I woke and ready to get things done.

CALLIE  when I bought my rollator I had no idea about health supply stores. I ordered mine online and my son put it together. After moving here and seeing so many with them I found out that Medicare would pay for one but you get the ones they pick. I like mine better than those. Then I see the new ones some are getting and they are more like what I have.

JENNY  I would have hated to leave the place you were at in Vail, too, and get back into a hot city.

JOAN  Canadian bacon will be a treat, have not had that is a long time. This is Faith is a good lesson for the smart(?) college student. Another one to share. Food for Thought makes one think. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  making every day a good day is something to try for.

AMY  like you I have been wondering about Lloyd. Not like him not to post every day. Hope he did not have another accident or end in the hospital again.

JEANNE LEE  your get up and go should be reminded about how we worry.

LARRY  the worse about not being able to eat till after the tests is when they are scheduled for late in the day.

HAL  glad you can give your grass a drink today.

Gloria,  two friends recommended this particular store for the rollator.  I could have gone through my doctor and had insurance pay for it.

I just mentioned the way the store lady adjusted mine because it seemed to be a method anybody could use.

Good Morning Everyone from the
still coolish,  sunny,  rocky coast of Maine.

But...
As of tomorrow,  the long hot part of Summer
should be coming,  with temps up into
the 80's and a wee bit more humid.   But not
terribly so.    I can see that my AC
will be running for the next couple of
weeks.

I can't complain (even though I would like to)
because we have had very nice weather here
for many, many weeks.

I am really looking forward to the day when
I "should really put on some weight"...   (ha!)

But something tells me that is going to be
a long time coming.    No matter what,
I will be closely paying attention to weight
issues from now on in order to someday
reach my goal weight.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

Good morning, Joan and everyone. It is a lovely cool morning, very low humidity, and a slight breeze out of the East.

I plan to drive to Stop and Shop around noon, that seems to be when the parking is best. My neighbor who cleans for me will go along.  She will bring a shopping cart to the car, then I can walk in.  I go up and down every aile, that is part of my excercise.  Of course I see and buy somthing I really do not need.
When we get home, she will put the groceries away, which I always tell her I can do, but she does not listen to me.
Gloria I do have a rollator, that my DIL gave me, it was her grandmothers.but I still use a cane most of the time.  I also have my husbands walker. Which I keep by the tub, when I get out. my tub is extra wide, with a step out. I can grab hold the walker for balance.

Happy to see your post JeanneLee.  I also hope Lloyd is OK

Good morning from a very misty Interior. We had a quick rain squall yesterday afternoon but no thunder, lightning or hail. Just more of that steady, rain. Sunny, warm days have rarely been seen here and not for the past several months.

Joan, I did lose a lot of weight, but the attention and very sudden visibility I garnered when I had been there all along were off-putting. I am trying to lose the few pounds I regained the past couple of years in retirement.

Lately, Farrah has changed. She used to get all excited at the rattle of her treat bag. Today, out of nowhere she went over to the yoga mat and announced WIN!, her word for treats, not to be confused with WIN, WIN her words for FEED ME in the mornings. When I return after being gone for an amount of time, she automatically goes to her treat place, the yoga mat.

Callie,  I use the rollator walker that was my husbands.  After reading what you wrote about adjusting the handlebars,  I realized that I was probably using the walker like it was adjusted for my husband.  I know that when I am using it, I do tend to lean over a bit.  So, I took your same advice and measured it like you said and wound up raising it just one more notch.  Oh, what a difference.   I no longer walk bent over and it really does feel so much better. I am standing up much straighter.

Thanks for the tip !!!

Callie--Medicare provided my walker and a medical supplier in town delivered it.

Sandy--I know that one day you WILL reach your goal weight.

Linedancer--I'd sure like to feel a breeze.  How nice that your neighbor/cleaning lady goes to the grocery with you.

angelface--Folks comment about how thing I am, and that is as offensive as telling someone they are fat.  Farrah is really getting smart.

Joy--Great that Callie's tip helped you adjust your walker so it's easier to use.

Good Monday afternoon.......Joan, If I had known bacon was on the menu, I would have been in here earlier.....now Canadian bacon, that's a new one on me....

Molly, sounds like your Mohamed done quite a lot of catching up with his short time we you.....You will now be counting days till his next home visit....
My thoughts remain with your boy who is out in Korea....

Amy, two days of rest, eh,......that's now getting to become a habit....  ;D ....about time you took time out...

Jenny, sounds like you were sad to have come away from Vail....I google mapped it and the scenery was to die for, it looked so picturesque...

Larry Hanna, yes surprisingly just an hour or two away from home does one a world of good....Even I tend to forget how many sight-seeing places are on top of our door-step...we even have a castle ( Corfe Castle, ) National Trust, not too far a trip away, another place I must keep on to R about to take a visit to......But I do have to keep on mentioning it, as it goes through one ear and out the other with him.... ::)

Don, so easy putting off using the next stage in mobility transport.....I have seen many MS'ers in these power type of wheelchairs, that I know I could be one of them one day soon but...I will put off moving that next stage up until I find I have no choice, but for me, the time hasn't come yet.....I can still get around with a stick and for balance I will grab Rs sleeve, or I will use my rollator as and when I am off pebbled, or uneven ground, although I believe my rollator is geared for rugged terrain, just dont want to damage its tyres......

Larry Hanna, hm, like busses, you wait forever then three come along together, re, your todays three medical test appointments...I am sure this is a day you want over and done with.....Hope you find time to relax once you reach home and those tests are put behind you.....I have my urinary bleed scans come this Wednesday.....

Sandy, I have to congratulate you on losing 50 lbs ( 3 & a half stone )....I can imagine what a difference this has made to not only your health but your energy level and wellness.....I too am far overweight, of course due to my illness my exercise has dropped, no lengthy dog walking, no swimming, no Yoga - Pilates and of course my all time favourite of several years ago, Tai - Chi Chuan.....my balance, glide and slow gentle movements, would now be a definite no - no....
....................................
Well not much been on the last few days agenda, yesterday i felt so tired throughout the day, dozed off a few times.....Today has been a tad better....felt more alive, more motivated...even went out for a short drive with R to our local garden centre, and pet store.....I wanted to buy a couple of not too dear Items to take to my tomorrow evenings MS social evenings group to add to the prizes for their monthly raffle.....bought a couple of hand-cream sets, one wild English lavender, the other Lily of the Valley......
....................................
Tomorrow morning 8.15, our electrician is due to put up our pair of chandelair type ceiling lights, cant wait to see them up, its taken three months of umming and arrghing, in choosing them....
....................................
Rollators, the only problem I have is, that I now tend to wear calf length skirts, and its not the first time my skirt has got tangled near the wheel, nothing major....
.....................................
I know we dont talk politics but we had a real turn up for the books for our new Prime Minister....there were two in the running, the general public private members were to make the final vote, but lunchtime came our news that one dropped out, so we now have our new Prime Minister who is to take over this Thursday rather than early September...Anyway I am a happy bunny as we have ourselves the right person for the job ahead, another female, since the days of Margaret Thatcher........ she comes across as very warm and clearly focused on her job, re, our pulling out of the EU...and I hope can smooth things over....

Joan, so much nicer to make a general comment rather than specific. It is more enjoyable to hear, you look happy or good today instead of how thin, tired, heavy, or sick you look! People are generally aware and do not need reminders!

I remember when my father was ill and in a wheelchair. People directed all questions to me and it made me so I would stay silent and specifically  look at him to answer or not. Some just never got the message! After that, I made a point of speaking and looking at the person in the wheelchair when I was working or now when I meet someone. Another tip is if someone is using an interpreter. Look at and answer the person and not the interpreter.

Now that my hearing isn't the best, I become upset when people move their head around, look away, look back and other movements when I am trying to hear and understand what they are saying!

I always make a point of addressing children who come through my line with their parents.  I think too many children are ignored and they are people too.  So I ask them something specific... "What's that on your shirt?" or if the have a baby with them, "Is your baby a baby sister or a baby brother?"  Or "how's your summer going?"  They always perk up and answer and sometimes ask me something.  And I always address the shopper whether they are in a wheel chair of standing.  I assume it's their legs that don't work, not their lips and their brains.

Good Morning all, have read all your morning greeting. It is good to see you all up and about.

Jeanne Lee, It is surprising how long it takes to recover from a hospital stay. It is not just the body that was ill, but our poor minds went through a lot of trauma also, and I find that takes me more time to adjust after each trip to hospital. Plus the fact that each day I am getting a little bit older, and nothing can change that. Be patient with yourself dear, you deserve a time of healing.

I have nothing on my to-do list other that write the letters that I didn't do yesterday. There is a movie called Flywheel downstairs at1:30, I may take my self down there just to acknowledge there is a life outside my apartment and the hallways. More and more I am hibernating at home...not a good plan.

Joy, I too am using the cart that we bought for my husband. I did need to adjust the height of the handles, but that was a long time ago. so I haven't shrunk lately.

Vanilla-Jackie--Once the ceiling light fixtures are installed things should be pretty well done, right?

angelface--Some people don't know how to make a general comment.

Janie--You are so very thoughtful to make comments directly to children, disabled adults etc.

June--Guess except for walking the halls, you're having a quiet day.

Jackie, what we call Canadian bacon would be known as back bacon in the UK.

Callie, I'm thanking you, too.  I did your little trick of holding my arms straight down at my sides and then bending them to a 45 deg. angle and knew I needed to raise the arms on my rollator 2 notches.  I didn't realize that I was walking so hunched over and I expect that contributed to me being so tired when I finish grocery shopping through my VERY large store.  I hope that my next shopping trip will be less tiring.  Just walking around in the house with the rollator is more comfortable now.  You did some of us a great service.

Temps are not too bad today.  84 deg. on my house thermometer and the humidity is down lower than recent days.  And a nice little zephyr of breeze is very pleasantly stirring things around.  It could be worse!

Online shopping is  :baaa: !
I sure don't know how some of you can be so content with ordering your groceries.   :-\

Just one more thing I'm going to have to adapt to now, I guess.  I'm sure that eventually I'll learn but meanwhile I'm getting more and more frustrated.  My friends are so willing to help out, but I don't really feel right about asking them to do the shopping for me.  I guess for dairy and frozen, etc. I'm going to need to have it done, but the non-prerishable should be available delivered from Amazon or Walmart or.....

Phyllis--Callie's little tip has sure helped a few use their walkers more comfortably.  No breeze here--not even a blade of grass moving.

Jeanne Lee--I know it's hard adjusting to having someone do your shopping or doing it online.  I have a lady who physically shops for me every two weeks (I have to pay her).  Then in between I use Shipt.  It is a subsidiary of the grocery chain Publix.  I have an app for it, shop online and order is delivered within 1 hr. of placing same.  If you buy over $35 delivery is free.

I think WM has that order and pick up service.  Our store does and it was my understanding that it was all stores.  You order on line or by phone and they tell you when to pick it up and someone comes out and puts it in your car while you wait.

Janie, here in San Antonio you order from WM online and their are certain stores where you can go a pickup.  Not all stores.

But, my Granddaughter loves it, she uses it extensively.  She has those twin boys and they are a handfull when out shopping.  The store she picks up from is just a little distance from her house and on her way home from work.

Other stores are having to come up with their version to meet the competition.

Another day to be thankful for.  We are all here this evening, but I still haven't seen Lloyd.

Bis, I did get myself in gear and went down for lunch. Had a cup of soup, an egg salad sandwich, a large glass of tomato juice and two oatmeal cookies to take home, along with a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream, now tucked away in my small freezer. Then went back down for a movie...a Christian style movie, called The Flywheel. Sort of a tear-jerker.

Now I am home, relaxed, and looking forward to bed and book , about an hour to go for that. So, I will play some solitaire and Freecell on the computer. I pray you all have a good night, and happy tomorrow, with Love, Hugs and Prayers. June

Phyllis, now I am confused even more.....we have " back " bacon, but I know that to be the cut....I am sure our British version of " back " is different to your American version...re, Wikipedia.....

" Back bacon is a traditional British cut of typically unsmoked bacon sliced to include both the pork loin from the back and a bit of pork belly in the same cut. It is either wet- or dry-cured, and is much leaner than American style smoked side bacon made only from the pork belly. Back bacon is derived from the same cut used for pork chops, the loin.

In Australia, back bacon is known as 'middle bacon', not to be confused with 'short cut bacon', which does not include the pork belly. See Bacon Australia and New Zealand. ".......
.................................................................

"Canadian bacon"....

"Canadian bacon" is American usage for a form of roughly cylindrical fully cooked back bacon, usually smoked, trimmed into medallions, and thickly sliced. The term "Canadian bacon" is not actually used in Canada, where the product is generally known simply as "back bacon", while "bacon" alone refers to the same streaky pork belly bacon as in the United States. "Canadian" bacon is made only from the lean eye of the loin and is ready to eat; this preparation is closer to ham than standard bacon. "

The product may have arisen from a unique form of back bacon which emerged in Southern Ontario called "peameal bacon", which is unsmoked wet cured pork loin trimmed like "Canadian bacon" and traditionally rolled in ground dried yellow peas to extend its shelf life. Today it is generally rolled in yellow cornmeal. "......
.............................................................

So now we know.... ;D

Interim School Superintendent

An interim school superintendent, speaking at a city-wide PTA luncheon, assured members that he was always happy to hear from them about problems. He told them, "You can call me day or night, at this number . . ."

Suddenly there was a cry from the assistant superintendent. "Hey," he exclaimed, "that's MY number!"

Ginny and I sat at the edge of Idaho's Salmon River. The snow capped peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains towered over us. It was late May. We were 6,500 feet above sea level.  The air was crisp, close to freezing. The river rippled by. The sound it made, combined with the mountain background, was calming.

We sat with our drinks and enjoyed our anniversary vacation.

We normally had the place to ourselves that time of year, but this time, there were many guests.

Two of the guests had Black Labrador Retrievers. The two dogs, friendly as the breed is, became friends.

A couple children tossed a football between them. One made a bad throw. The ball landed in the swift following water. The two dogs jumped into the water to retrieve it. Their owners quickly called them back, afraid they would be swept away.

They both returned to shore, but one decided not to give up.

It ran down the river bank, saw the correct moment to get the ball, dove into the frigid mountain waters, retrieved the ball and returned it to the kids.

Many would say, "It's gone!" Not this dog. He never gave up.

Never give up on your goals either.

Good Tuesday, an almost lunchtime here in UK....we have had a mixture of sun and fine drizzle....

Our morning electrician young guy turned up 8.30am, just 15 minutes later than he told us.....no problem, R put the kettle on for a tea for him, while we all unpacked the light fitting boxes and left electrician to fan out the five bronzed arms and fitted the very tiny bulbs into the glass shades....The lights have a stunning effect which I am sure will look better once dark, they adapt to our dimmer switch......

Amy, if only we could all keep ourselves away from these not wanted hospital trips....I have my urinary bleed trip tomorrow, so been a tad on edge as the day is drawing nearer....

I always get concerned when our Lloyd Hammond doesn't show, knowing his previous misfortunes with machines and so forth...I hope he shows himself soon....perhaps its just a busy time of year for him, and his farming....

Not much on my agenda today, my MS social night is tonight, something always for me to look forwards to....have no Idea what is on the agenda for entertainment tonight, guess that's also part of the mysterious fun, but we always end with a tea and food snack, plus a monthly prize draws, of which with the many raffles numbers picked out the box, you can almost guarantee to come away with something....

Good morning, Amy.  It's to be another HOT and HUMID day here, too.  I hope all goes well at the doctors for your husband.  Enjoy your lunch with the kids.  Hopefully Lloyd is missing because he's busy--nothing more serious.

Vanilla-Jackie--I'm sure your light fixtures are stunning.  I hope tomorrow's trip to the hospital provides you with some information about your problem.   Enjoy your MS social night.

Good Morning Everyfriend! Yesterday was a gorgeous day here with a high of only 81, low humidity and a light breeze.  It was a gift!  Today will be into the high 80s...still not too bad for this time of year.

I have a young man coming back this morning to finish a gardening job that he started yesterday.  He's a very hard worker recommended by a church friend for whom he also works.  He did a beautiful job yesterday.  And he didn't waste a minute!

Jackie and Amy....prayers go with you!

Everyfriend, have a lovely day!

Joan, its only taken us three and a half months, ;D to finally find some that we think will be right for our low roof parkhome...and that we both actually like...

Jane S, you make sure you hang on tight to him, a gardener that works hard and doesn't waste time is sure a treasure to find, more so if he was recommended by your local church, you cant have a better recommendation that that....

You are exactly right about that, Jackie.  But he was recommended by my long-time friend at church.  He also works for her..  And he was supposed to start on Tuesday morning.  He texted that he was having lunch and had finished the job he was doing in a nearby town and could start mine in about a half hour if I was interested.  I was and he did.

Good morning, Janie.  Hang on to that young gardener.  As you know they are hard to find.  In Arkansas we had no HOA and when Ray could no longer take care of mowing, trimming etc. we had a heck of a time finding reliable help.  After Ray passed away I had even a worse time--maybe they thought a little old lady wouldn't pay much attention to the outside.  The worse guy I tried showed up to do the lawn staggering drunk.

Around here, it seems that you find someone who is conscientious and hardworking and he's also AMBITIOUS.  I don't have any problem with that but they seem to reach a point where they are too big for the little people who got them started.  I've had 3 like that over the years.  When I was younger, I just picked up the slack but I can't do that now.  I have a feeling that Sam is different.  He told me twice yesterday that he "loves working outside" even when it gets hot."  I kept him supplied with ice water and he put in two hours doing three times what my neighbor and I had accomplished in the same amount of time.  And his work looked a lot better than ours.

I think he's definitely a "keeper"!

well I thought as it is raining, and I cant get out right now I best take time to let you all know I am ok and Abel to return as a bad penny dose as they say. have been doing some cleaning on the property ans selling some of the scrap iron.
I have also  been getting parts together to get the engine rebuilt for my skid steer. Oldest daughter and husband and
grand daughter came Sunday. the friend that takes care of our Bee's came by to get a frame of brood with queen cells
for another friends swarm had lost his queen, so we all went out and watched. the great grand children as well as us
sure enjoyed that. we Have over a 100 Lbs of honey all total in brood section and all over 30 lbs in a honey section full
but not capped yet above the queen exclude-er.we put a second frame bodied for honey on above that.still plenty of clover and soybeans blooming so they will make more. May be able to rob up to a hundred lbs off in august and leave plenty for the bees to survive winter. Have a great day.

So glad to have you check in, Lloyd.  Do you sell your honey?  If you do I would love to be around there when you put your honey up for sale.  We have several local bee keepers here and I always look for their honey.  Local honey is so much better than that from large commercial companies.

Jackie, I agree....the whole thing of what kind of bacon in what country is called is really confusing.   ???  What we in the States call Canadian Bacon is not called that in Canada!  But whatever it is called it is good, much leaner than our regular bacon...and more expensive, too!

Going to be very hot here today and when it is like this with the high humidity we have daily afternoon thunderstorms.

I agree, Jeanne Lee, online grocery shopping is confusing.  And, I am a "touchy/feely" person that likes to touch, smell, and thoroughly inspect fresh produce.  When the time comes that I can no longer make it through the grocery store, even with my son's help, I'll have to go on-line.  I'm sure it will be just as frustrating to me as it is to you.

Good morning everyone, think it was a little after 8 last night when I headed for dreamland and boy do I know it this morning. Got cool overnight so woke an the cold side and grabbed a blanket and went back to sleep. Just heard it was in the 50's. I think that will be the last of cool temperatures.

CALLIE  after reading how the lady adjusted your rollator I noticed more how mine were and that is like mine is, with my arms bent at the elbow they are straight out to the handles.

GLORIA de  anything to keep us moving and waking is a big help. I would not want to be in a wheelchair but we never know what the future holds for us.

JEANNE LEE  when I order groceries online I never order produce, but will get dairy. They keep thing cold in their trucks. If I need produce or meat my son will get it for me. He was doing my shopping for me before I moved here. At times I send my CNA to the market for a couple of things.  Works for me but I do miss going to the market to see what is new or what might tempt me.

JOAN  from PeaPod (they work with the Stop&Shop markets) where I order online it is $6.95 if over $100. That is where I order my Ensure and bulky things and paper or cleaning products.

HAL  there are a lot of seniors in this state and many have no way of getting out so they need more delivery service. Most do not have computers so the few places that deliver they cannot use. They depend on family members for help.

JUNE  glad you went down for lunch and the movie. I make sure I go out every day if only to sit on the porch and visit with others out there. If it is raining there is always someone on the main floor. Either doing laundry, checking mail, in the library or the lobby. Many years ago I read something about letting a day go by without talking to at least one other person is a wasted day. Guess I paid attention to that remark. There are a few here that seldom leave their apartments and only have the TV for company.

JACKIE  interesting  about the difference of Canadian bacon.  I know ours looks like ham and lean and delicious but quite expensive.

JOAN  you know me, cannot pass a lemon DD or maybe 2. My CNA asked me yesterday before going to the market asked me if I wanted a lemon DD and I passed. There is a DD near the market. She knows hat I like and usually have on the list I give her. If I forget something she will call from the market and ask if I want or need it. If my daughter was still working she really would have loved today's chuckle especially if the was principal instead of superintendent. Never Give Up is something none of us should do. Thank you for all today's goodies and all you do looking roar everything you post to start the day here in the best forum on the web.

AMY  I like the raspberry DD's too but the lemon is my favorite. I did leave some for Linedancer -Gloria de. Humidity will be picking up tomorrow here. Was great while it was low. Hope the doctor visit has good news for you DH.

JANE  this cooler weather has been a gift. Glad you found a good yard man. These days not many really work hard, always taking a break.

LLOYD  glad you finally let us know you are OK.  Only one year was my son able to get enough honeycomb from his hives to make honey. Had some bad years around here when the honey bees were dying.

PHYLLIS  produce is something I have always been fussy about. My son is the only one I trust to get bananas for me. He know I don't like them too ripe but with a bit of green on the ends.

Good Morning Everyone!

Nice to see Lloyd in here this morning.  Lloyd you made my mouth water talking about the honey.  Some say it is good for you if you suffer from allergies, suppose to build up your immune system.

Our weather is more of the same, hot and dry.  But did get the grass watered yesterday and called my yard guy and he will be by tomorrow morning to cut it.

Not much of tap today.  Son n law will be over to finish power washing in the front.  Got patio done yesterday.  Looks nice.

Joanie, weather guy said something about a depression in the Gulf but I didn't pay much attention.  Maybe we will get some rain from that, some time or other.
But looks like we are going to get some Saharan dust which will make things hazy.  As if we didn't have enough of our own....

Janie, nice that you found the young guy.  I think a young person could make a fairly good living (in the summer) doing yard work.  Although my yard guy told me last night when I talked to him most of his customers say that it has been so hot and dry that their yard isn't growing.  Sure not a problem for my back yard.
In you part of the world I suppose they could switch to snow removal in the winter months.

Everyone Have a great day.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Glad to know you are OK.  You sure have been busy.

Phyllis--Good morning.  These hot and humid days I don't venture out very often.

Good morning, Gloria.  You passed up a lemon DD?  Oh my!!:)

halkel--Good morning.  I didn't hear anything about a depression in the Gulf, but I know we've had NO rain, and it's hot and humid.

Hal, most of the yard guys do switch to snow removal in the winter.  They all have working trucks and it's not hard to attach a snow plow.

Sam is going to mow my grass, also.  He'll bring his own mower at first and when they go on sale, I'll buy one.  Things are definitely looking up as far as yard work is concerned.

Well, I've placed an order.  I think.  I thought I was confused before, but when I decided to go for the Prime trial it got even more so.   :o  I guess the answer will come when the order is delivered - or not delivered.

Gloria, the dairy and other perishables will have to be purchased at a local store, none available for shipping.  We do have several stores that will take an order and have it ready for pick up, but the pick up is an additional problem for me.  Oh well, the Lord isn't going to let me starve and I can of course get five meals a week from Meals on Wheels.  I'm sure it will take a little time to get these things all straightened out.

Janie--That will work.

Good morning, Jeanne Lee.  It is confusing when you have to change your way of doing things.  I am sure you'll be satisfied with Prime.  Would it be possible to have a friend pick up perishables when they do their own grocery shopping?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of July 10
Post by: JaneS on July 12, 2016, 10:53:54 AM
JeanneLee, if I were the one needing the groceries, AND if I were the one doing the shopping for someone else, I think the following would work...

I'd keep an ongoing list of what I need and I'd ask a daughter or friend to call me when she's leaving for the store.  Then I'd call and place the order, pay with my card and ask them to have it ready for my friend to pick up when she finishes her shopping.  This would save the friend the inconvenience of having to do someone else's shopping and I wouldn't mind if I were either the shopper or the "shopee".  I'll think about that a bit and see if I can find any pros or cons.

Hi everyone on another soon to be 100 degree day here in South Carolina.  It has been a very busy morning after waking at 1:30 am and not being able to go to sleep.  I continued to rest in bed until 5:30 then got up and shaved and showed and then laid back down and read my email and the message boards on my iPhone.  I got up and did my normal morning chores plus a couple of others.  I just got back from a quick trip to Walmart to pick up more medicine for Pat that wasn't ready when I picked up some yesterday for her.

My medical tests went well.  The Echo and ultra sound tests were done back to back and I didn't even have to move other that what was required for the test.  Then I had to wait may 45 minutes or so for the PET scan of my heart, which took about 45 minutes.  The worst of the test was having to keep my arms above my head for 30 minutes and my right arm went to sleep and I had to ask the tech to help me lower it.  It will be a couple of weeks before I will hear the results of the tests when I again see the Cardiologist.

After I finished the tests I went about a mile further up the road to Shane's BBQ and had good meal.  I also brought home a pulled pork plate for Pat's evening meal.  Since it was after 3 pm when I ate I certainly didn't want any supper.

I am expecting to have a quiet remainder of the day working this morning on projects in my office, then taking the afternoon and evening just resting and relaxing.

Joan, I got to lay down for the tests so they weren't hard to take.  I did get a little lost in trying to find the office as they have removed the street sign I was looking for so was a couple of minutes late but all was well.  The home ower is responsible for their own sprinkler system.

Gloria, you are probably much better off with the roilator you bought yourself rather than let someone else pick out what they think you need.  Fortunately I don't get hungry easily so waiting until mid-afternoon to eat yesterday was no problem.  I did have a bowl of peaches yesterday evening and then we finished them up this morning and they were SO good.

Jackie, I hope your new Prime Minister will be as good and as stronga  leader as Margaret Thatcher was.  Glad you like your new lights and the dimmer switch is a nice fixture.  We had that in our dining room in our previous home but not here.

Lloyd, I am thankful you are all right and have just been busy.  A very interesting post about the bees and other activities that have been keeping you busy.  I think we were all worried about you.

JaneS, it sounds like you have a Gem in your new person doing your lawn.

Larry--Sorry you sleep was interrupted last night.  Great that your tests went well.  I pray all the results will be satisfactory.

Good afternoon, I think this will be the last pleasant day. Still in the 70, and a nice breeze coming in where I am setting.  the humidity is high to day.

Gloria, thanks for leaving me a DD. I also buy my bananas on the green side. There was always fresh honey on the table when I was growing up. I also got and orange egg nog for breakfast, when I was growing up.  Had a raw egg in it and I am still here.

Joan thanks for good reading.

Jane, someone who would help with gardens would do well here. I wish I had someone to use a regular mower.  Since the men mow who come in are on those stand up mower, and they are to fast, they tear up the lawn, where they stop and turn. Our lawn use to be beautiful when my husband took care of it.  We even won Yard of the Month. The park give a prize ($50.)  for the best front yard

Good Morning from Stanton, Ca. Sun is trying to break through the clouds, but I am not pushing it. I like cool and cloudy mornings in the summer time. The heat comes soon enough.

Lloyd it is good to see you, and know you are O.K.

Jeanne Lee, I get tired out every time I do my on-line shopping, but at least I can take my time, walk away if I get weary, and the order stays in my shopping cart. Every store has their own limitations, so we have to go with the flow, and shopping on line is much preferable than having someone do the shopping for us.

Larry I am happy your tests went so smoothly, and I hope the results will be the very best of news.

Today is our creative writing class, followed by mobility and balance exercises. Other than that, and meals, I am on my own today. Which will mean reading and dozing, which I relish and do best.

Gloria, I make myself get out and walk if there is nothing else scheduled for the day. It would be so easy to just give up and do nothing, but that is foolish. We never know what surprises life has in store for us, right around the corner, so we have to get ourselves to that corner to discover what is there.

Hal, a shame you are expecting a dust storm after you have a fresh power wash of the house. Be sure your windows are closed up tight.

Time to get the bed made and myself dressed and get the day started, and take that first walk-around. See you all later. June

June, I am still so lucky I can still get out.  I am so lucky to have Diana, my neighbor who cleans for me every two weeks. When I drive to the corner to Stop and Shop, as I wrote before, she brings a shopping cart to the car.  I can do my banking, and she let me take my time shopping,  she waits at the coffee shop till I am ready.  She also takes me to Target once in a while never hurries me, she sets in Star Bucks, if she finishs first.

Last year, when i spent a week in the hospital and three weeks in rehab, it took me over a month before I was up and running around again.  I never want to go back there.  They made me set in a wheel chair all day long, and that was a downer.

I love to read how you are doing, where you now live. They sure watch out for you.

Good Afternoon Everyone, from
the warm (in the 80's,  with low humidity,) rocky
coast of Maine.    For the low humidity
I am very grateful. It makes being in the 80's
much more comfortable.

I had a very nice day today with my
weekly visit with Kelly.

Just knowing that once every week,
I get a chance to go out,  do my
errands,  hit a thrift  store or two,
and get groceries,  with my
daughter there to keep an eye on me,
makes my life so much easier.
I am so grateful  to have someone
to depend on.

My other daughter Erin spends a few
nights and days with me every week ..
So I am over flowing with good fortune.

Of course I still take it one day at a
time,  because change is just a part of
life,  and I never know when change will
come.

Have a good day,
Everyone!

AF, Farrah is beautiful!  The one and only cat in my life was a gray and black tiger.  It looks like that's what she is?

Gloria de, it looks like your red hat faded!  I like the new effect!

My friend and I went to the movies this afternoon.  Tuesday is Sen Cit day and it only costs $5. at the mall.  (I can't believe I said "only" in front of money)  We saw BFG and it was so good.  If you get a chance to see it, you should.  Then we made a stop at the farm stand and had an early supper at The Fence.  We ate outside with a beautiful view of the Susquehanna River.  And now I'm ready for a nap.  But if I give in, I might not sleep tonight.  What's an old lady to do!

Sam finished the one planting area today and it's beautiful.  If the OTHER guy had showed up when he should have and the bushes had been trimmed, it would be even better.  But Sam's going to trim them after they finish blooming.  I tried to take a picture and was going to have Courtney post it for me when she gets here but the sun was at the wrong angle.  Maybe she'll do the whole works when she gets here.

Gloria de, I am so happy that you have Diana as a neighbor. It makes me feel so much better since you live alone. I'm sure she would be there in a minute if you were to need assistance of any kind. I feel as you do about going to the hospital. I lay there for three days with an i.v. dripping into my arm..bored to tears, yearning to be up and about. I would rather swallow a jillion pills rather than have the meds flow into my veins. At least it was in bed, rather than you stuck in a wheel chair. I could turn over, sit up, hang my feet down or just stay prone. But I wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom by myself. No place like HOME. I feel SO blessed living here at Rowntree Gardens.

Patricia, Farrah is a darling, and you have been an angel in giving her a loving home. Thank you !!!!!!

Sandy, you are SO fortunate..two loving daughters that see you frequently. I'm so happy for  you girl.

Time to reheat some supper. I am really tired after attending two programs this afternoon. It is good to be home and in comfortable loose clothing, and knowing that I have done my "getting out and about" for the day.

I have half a huge hamburger to reheat from lunch time and some steak fries, and what ever else I want, which won't be much as I'm not really hungry. Just eating because I should.

It's late evening for those of you on the East Coast…sun is still shining out here on the West side of our nation. Hope to come back later to say Goodnight.

I haven't read any posts since Monday morning because since Monday noon, I spent much of the day first in Urgent Care, then in Emergency Care in Blodgett Memorial Hospital because of my non-stop nose bleeds.  They finally packed my nose (ouch) and after several tests, they let me come home about 2:30 am this morning (Tuesday).  The packing will remain until Thursday when my regular doctor will remove it.  I have been in bed much of the time since I got home and I'm headed there now.

Spent the day with my life best friend. She was in Denver from Wyoming for a doctors appointment.  We went out for breakfast, but it was so loud neither of us could hear a word the other said...it was awful.  We came back here to the house and enjoyed the rest of our time together.

MARY ANN, I am sorry to read about your unfortunate issue.  I do hope it will all be ok after you go to your doc to have the packing removed.

JACKIE, do hope you enjoyed the evening at your MS gathering.  Hope the doctor appointment will review some answers for you. HUGS.

I am headed off to bed.....pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny, good morning or goodnight.....

Yes I did enjoy my MS evening out, I am always in good company with another fella MS'er....Last night was another improvising of a quiz night, much harder questions to answer than our last quiz of two months ago, but we still fared above average but came the lowest of the three groups....I can hold my hand up that I came up with a few correct answers...

Got my SCAN's in a few hours time, time is now 7.am, my appointment is for 11.am, we will leave at 10....I am told I must keep my bladder filled up with water, problem will be, in keeping it full.... ::) then for my second SCAN, the Internal one, I must then empty my bladder, what they dont yet know is that it fills up within seconds and I have to unfill it a second time...

Jenny, you will have to keep me Informed on how Patti's medical appointment went....well that's another thing we have in common...

Food For Thought

Miscommunication

We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!
Acts 2:11
If you are a non-native English speaker like me, you faced a difficult challenge when you moved to an English-speaking country. Even though I’ve lived in the United States for many years, I am still always conscious of whether people understand what I am saying. Maybe you have the same experience. You don’t want any miscommunication or missed communication.
The people at Babel would not have had that problem at first, since “the whole world had one language.” But good communication needs more than just a common language; it needs the desire to communicate.
God confused the language of the people at Babel because they wanted to glorify themselves and be independent of God. However, even if the Lord had not confused their language, they still would have scattered and been unable to live in harmony because of their sin (see Genesis 6:5). True communication can occur only when “the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” that exists between people is broken down in the name of Jesus (Ephesians 2:14).
On Pentecost, fifty days ¬after Jesus’ victory over our sin, people heard Jesus’ followers communicating the good news in their own native languages. What a miracle, reversing the curse of Babel and pointing to the day when every tongue will confess “that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:11)!
Thank you, Jesus, for your victory over our sin. Help us to communicate with one another for the good of your kingdom. Amen.

Thought of the Day

“We must always take sides.  Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.  Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Joan, good morning, and to Everyfriends who will soon come to join us....

I will be leaving within the next hour for my double SCAN appointment, the day and time has actually arrived....Joan f you can save some sausage for me when I get back, I am sure with my missed breakfast that will go down a treat, maybe inside a soft roll of bap....
Well I can still make time for a second cup of tea, I have to fill my bladder up with fluid, also going prepared with a bottle of water,......of course holding onto this fluid is easier said than done, when one has MS....the second Internal scan will be easier, I then have to empty my bladder before scan, but what they dont yet know is that my bladder soon fills up again....I am often straight on the loo for a second full emptying.....oh happy days..... ::) I have probably mentioned this a dozen times already...

Good morning everyone.

Going to be another hot sticky day here. The Dr. wants to do a more in depth scan on hubby so now he has an appointment at the hospital. Our calendar is filling up fast with Dr appointment for July and Aug and into Sept!

Today I am off to the car dealer to fix the a/c on my van...hubby is staying home to look after the girls as it can be a 4-5 hour fix.

Patricia,Farrah is beautiful!! Just look how shiny her coat is and her marking are lovely!

MaryAnn, I hope your better soon and I bet you will be glad when the packing comes out. I know why you said ouch too as I watch the Dr pack my hubby's nose and he flinched and it takes a lot to make him do that!

Jackie good luck on your scan..

Lloyd, good to see you here, we were worried about you!! You and Nancy have been busy with the tomatoes. I can taste a bacon and tomato sandwich now!!  Have you tried a peanut butter and tomato sandwich??

June, like you I hit the bed when it was still light out as I didn't sleep well the night before and only woke because Mr/Mrs Robin was singing good morning to the world. Now I have crows squawking rather loudly now.....they are telling each other that I threw food out for them.

Gloria,I was raised to eat what is put in front on me...now when I see kids that don't want this or that on their plate I think they have never gone hungry. I would get my children to at least try something ,if they didn't like it  ok but alt least try it first.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

I had better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem!  I've reversed my strategy for the mornings that I have to work.  I've already had my shower and I'm dressed and ready to go.  So now I can dilly-dally at anything I choose...as long as one of the things I choose is feeding doggies.

MaryAnn, I hope all goes well for you when you see your doctor.  And I hope you slept well last night!  That was kind of scary, wasn't it?

Jackie, I hope you get some answers today.

I finally had a good night's sleep last night.  I slept through until the alarm went off at 6 this morning.  If the doggies were restless last night, I didn't notice.

I'm off for breakfast now.  I hope everyone has a lovely day.  Gonna be a scorcher here.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good luck with your tests.

Good morning, Amy.  It seems your husband is being taken good care of by his doctors.  Good luck getting the a/c fixed on your van.

Lloyd--Good morning.  All that nice fresh produce sounds so good.

Mary Ann--I hope you slept well and that all goes OK when they remove the packing.

Janie--Good morning.  Wow you sure are ready to go early.  Now it's dilly-dally time.

I am going to get out early, before the awful heat of the day, and do some errands.

Mary Ann, that must be so uncomfortable for you.  Did the ER give you any explanation of what caused the non-stop nosebleeds?  Rest and take care of yourself...you've been through a hard time.

Angel, Farrah is a nice, healthy looking and alert cat.  So glad she is growing more and more comfortable with you and her home with you.

Lloyd, fresh tomatoes sound so good to me and now that the peaches are coming in I am going to HAVE to get to the farmer's market.  As for tomato sandwiches....All I need are a couple of big juicy slices on fresh bread with a slather of Duke's Mayonnaise.

Amy, I know that your DH's ongoing health issues are worrying to you.  You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Jane, I haven't been to a movie for many years.  I can't tolerate the VERY loud audio.  It really plays havoc with my hearing aid.  One of my first jobs when I was around 16 yrs. old was as a movie usherette.  Remember those?  I think I knew every line of dialog of every movie that came through our theater.

Joan, very hot here today, too.  I am just gritting my teeth and getting through this summer with the help of ice water and a good A/C.  I'm beginning to feel housebound, though, so maybe I'll get out for a trip to the library or the farmer's market  and maybe stop at the French bakery on the way home.  One of their delicious cannoli is calling my name.

Hi everyone.  Ditto on my weather reports from the past several days.  It is hot.  My big activity today will be to go to lunch with Pat and Scott at Ruby Tuesday's.  We have a coupon for buy one entree and get the second of equal of lessor value for free.  That is too good to pass up and will save Pat cooking tonight.  Scott will probably go back home and sleep for awhile and then come out later in the evening.

A few days ago I got a new replacement window for my office and this morning I looked up how to remove and replace it and decided to do so to save Scott doing it this evening.  I got the old window out and started to put the new window in and found it was the wrong size.  So back to the drawing board to return the new window and have them order the right size.  I don't think I will try to replace it myself again as it was too heavy.  I have the watering done in the back and the inside chores pretty well done.  Pat may want me to make a trip to the church to take some neck pillows she has sewn to be stuffed if she isn't up to going herself.  If so I can run a couple of errands I planned to do tomorrow when I go downtown.  I did get a good nights sleep last night.

deAngel, those big riding lawnmowers or ride behind mowers do cover a lot fo ground quickly but turns, particularly with heavy bags of grass behind do bad things when they turn sometimes scalping the grass.  I like a nice looking front yard but it is not a passion.

Joan, I checked on the ShipT in home shopping at Public but found it isn't yet available in our area.  June, you are indeed fortunate to be able to do your grocery shopping online.  We order a lot of other things online.

Sandy, glad your family takes such good care of you and that you are not alone all the time.  Just being close to where they are is a big relief, at least I feel that way about our son even though we generally see him only on his one day off.  We hope that he will begin to get some new interests and friends other than the people at work.  At least he isn't all by himself everyday.

JaneS, did you notice how much is charged for the non Senior special rate.  It has been years since I have seen a movie at the theater.  I don't think I have lost anything by not being there.  You are certainly blessed with access to farm markets and the Amish market.

Lloyd, you and Nancy will enjoy all of those canned or frozen fruits and vegetables in the months to come.  We finished up our fresh peaches yesterday but want to get some more before the season is over.  The sweet corn has also been very good.

Jackie, I expect when you read this your scan and other medical test will be a thing now accomplished.  I just hope they have some answers for you.

Amy, your husband is certainly having his share of medical issues.  Not fun to be in a car with the A/C not working.  I bet your will enjoy driving home after it is fixed.

Phyllis, I am with you on finding the volume level in a movie house very uncomfortable.  I will take my large screen TV and my headphones, which provide great sound but where I can control the volume.

I am sorry to hear that Mary Ann is having  some
problems with nose bleeds.   That has to be

this does not happen again.

I hope that you are comfortable and get through
this tough spell without any more nosebleeds.

My thoughts are with you,
HUGS..

some of them weekly.

Times are good..

Good Morning everyone from a bright, warm sunshiny day in the mid-eighties! We're not used to that big yellow ball this summer; I know I keep looking for those black roiling clouds!

Thanks for the lovely comments about Farrah. She is the only cat I've seen to put her toys in a paper sack, preparatory to dashing in and pulling them out and attacking them. But then she is racking up several firsts as she becomes more safe and happy.

I had a similar looking cat, Beau, who would open cupboard doors to put his toys inside or to exchange one for another, perhaps it is part of the breed mix they seem to share. Beau lived until mid-2011 and was also a foundling. Someone had been evicted from a non-pet apartment, and when the owners went in, they found two dead kittens and a barely alive Beau. His eyes were still the kitten's milky blue, and it was very expensive saving him, but then I was working, with funds. He grew quite large, alpha and looked so much like Farrah, only quite bigger. Shirley will remember him.

I have had dogs or cats or some other type of animal since birth as my mother raised Pomeranians and my dad, working bird dogs. My sister had horses and my younger sister, Dalmatians so it is a family thing, perhaps from our family's farming background? At one time, I had three large flight cages and six parakeets. Anyone who knows birds knows that parakeets are the small "Hell's Angels" of the avian world.

I was attempting to breed the couples, but they must have hated each other. One female wouldn't let the male of the cage off the cage floor or near the food and water. He had to be rescued. I finally gave up and gave all six birds and three large cages to a friend who had a room size aviary with some parakeets. To my chagrin, all six settled down, found other mates and lived happily ever after away from me and those cages!

My sister had similar issues with an older Arabian mare and one Tennessee Walker gelding that took an instant dislike to each other; she had six or seven horses and these two had to be kept apart and unable to reach the other if any peace was to be had. After trying for a couple of years, hoping for amity, she finally sold the mare at a loss.

I have been attempting to do some more advanced PSP tutorials during our PSP classes summer break. Why I thought I  could simply pick and choose is beyond me. I have regressed to a whiny child and knowing that each and every error is probably a simple over looked action has me frustrated! I know others in the forum are probably keeping a wary eye out for me these days.  :idiot2:

Grammer is another case in point. The warning for this post had me squinting too! "Squinting modifier, Incorrect: Possibly miswritten word: "over looked."' I also apparently tend to write in a passive voice rather than an active one. Now not only am I expected to be more active physically, but more active in my grammar as well! :(

Well, I hope everyone has a good morning, and that Jackie and Maryann are feeling better now. I'm off to pay some bills and see some friends.

Well I have now been back a couple of hours, guess we were out for three......My appointment came dead on time...I had unloaded my bladder three times during the half hour inside the hospital, just a few minutes before I was called in, thankfully the one to do my scan had gone hospital AWOL, and her assistant kept me company while I whizzed down another bottle of water, so as to refill my bladder,......that wasn't a hard chore, I can tell you....Seems the womb thickness measurements have gone down since my last scan of a year ago, my ovaries again couldn't be located, ( I know that I do have a pair, ) but that isn't a problem I am told.....All that was mentioned was there was some " bulginess or bulkiness "didn't ask what that might mean....It was a very relaxed atmosphere, I was in a humorous mood given the reason I was attending this SCAN.....told as soon as I reach home to book an appointment for two weeks time with my GP to hear the test results, which I have already done but...not before I told her I am not sure I trust her,, as I should have been here seven weeks ago, only she " forgot " to send in my referral, putting me now seven weeks behind....

I got R to stop off at a pub half way so I could empty my bladder again, but once in he ordered a beer and I asked if they done coffees....then we were asked if we would like anything to eat.....The place was empty, apart from a group of 5 or 6 that asked for a table.....so as my stomach was now rumbling I ordered a doorstep thick sandwich of prawns with mayonnaise, it came with some plain crisps and a lovely fresh side salad that had the most tastiest dressing, I even asked the lady owner " what dressing they used " only to be told they make up their own.....During the short time we were there, I had used the loo three times.....

Almost forgot, while we were all siting in the small waiting room, dont know which room it had come from but, the most terrible sound of agonising pain and discomfort from an elder sounding man, whatever prodding or probing they were doing must have been unbearable for him, I have never heard someone calling out so much as he did....It was enough to make any one run out of the hospital main door, and back into there cars...

Good morning everyone, looks like once again the AC will be working overtime. I don't mind as long as I am comfortable but the noise  is worse than the window ac I had. Maybe because it is closer to where the PC is.

HAL  around here the landscapers so have trucks with plows in the winter. At times they work long hours in the winter when we have big storms.

JEANNE LEE  There are a few here that get the Meals on Wheels. One of them got  2 one day and gave me the extra one. I could not eat it. It was supposed to be chicken in gravy and some vegetables. Well the chicken was pressed cubes and the whole thing was gray. Not for me. I am glad my CNA can go to the market for me. Then the son who comes every week end always calls and asks if I need anything.

LARRY  wish I could get peaches as fresh as the ones you are getting.

GLORIA de  of course I would save at least one lemon DD for you.

JUNE  when it rains or snows I can walk the hallways but that is not fresh air. They keep the walks clear in the winter but am leery of the rollator on the walk if there is a little snow or ice.

PATRICIA  Farrah looks quite comfortable there now. She reminds me of Beau.

MARY ANN  looks like you did not have a nice time so far this week. Hope once the packing is our you never have another nosebleed.

JACKIE  hope today's tests find something to help you.

LLOYD  no local  tomatoes here yet. With the weather  we had every thing seems later this year. Then we had those darn caterpillars that ate all the leaves on some trees. They did a number on my son's apple trees, all leaves gone. Now they are moths and going outside  they try landing in your hair. State waited too long to spray. This is the worse year I have seen for them

JOAN  breakfast this morning looks great. Love the chuckles. Wording or punctuation sure makes a difference in how things read. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  wish you weren't so far from the doctors and hospital so you would not have to do all that driving. Never heard of peanut butter and tomato sandwich  but like PB and banana or PB and apple slices. Love BLT or even tomato and lettuce sandwiches. Those I could live on all summer or as long as I got some good native tomatoes.

JOAN  hope you make it out for your errands and home before it gets too hot.

PHYLLIS  a plain tomato and mayo sandwich would be yummy, too. Only trouble is getting some good bread anymore. Wish I could make my own again, there would be no preservatives then. I feel housebound, too. Seems like any time I go anywhere it is to a doctor or dentist.

Good  Morning all, sounds like you are all in your places with sunshiny faces and that surely is the way to start a new day.

Jackie, I'm glad your tests went well and I hope you will get good news on the results.

I will be going to Bible study at 10 o'clock, given by my son Gary. Always a big treat to me to have him here, and I understand my Dori, Gary's wife, will be performing one of her religious skits for all the residents of Rowntree Gardens on the 28th. I have never seen her preform before so this will be a special treat. We have another program to discuss current topics, and then a treat of rootbeer floats this afternoon. That will be my "day of entertainment". Hopefully, I will find and opening hour at home to write a much needed letter or two. My old friends are going to give up on me if I don't reply to their posts.

Now it is time for some breakfast and then on with the day.....see you all later. June

we haven't put the pin to it yet but we gave tax and all $31.6? for the 4 boxes of tomatoes. we got 34 quarts of tomatoes  and 4 quarts of juice, and 8 or 10 in the frig for slicing (B L T 's ) or what ever. main deal we know it is pure to eat. we also bought a bag of 4 dozen + ears of bodacious sweet corn for $20.00. going to put it in freezer except for the two we ate for lunch yesterday and the two we are going to eat now for dinner. it is pouring down rain now. as soon as the 4 quarts of juice is done cooking and we eat I am going to take a nap and relax watching a good western movie.

Subject: Live Lobsters

In a small fishing village, a Newfoundlander was walking up from the wharf carrying two - at least three-pound live lobsters - one in each hand.
It was three weeks after the season closed! Whom should he meet at the end of the wharf but the Federal Fisheries Officer who, upon viewing the live and wiggling lobsters, says: "Well me Laddie I got you this time - with two live lobsters three weeks after the season Closed!"
The Newfie says, "No - My Son you are wrong! These are two trained lobsters that I caught two weeks before the season ended."
The Fisheries Officer says, "Trained like how?"
"Well my son, each day I takes these two from my house down to the wharf and puts them in the water for a swim. While they swim I sits on the wharf and has me a smoke, or two. After about 15 minutes I whistles and up comes me two lobsters, and I takes them home!"
"Likely story", the Fisheries Officer says! "Lets take them on down the wharf and see if it's true."
So, the Newfie goes ahead of the Fisheries Officer to the end of the wharf where, under supervision, he gently lowers both lobsters into the water.
The Newfie sits on a wharf piling and lights up a smoke, then another!
After about 15 minutes the Fisheries Officer says to the Newfie, "How about whistling?"
The Newfie says "What For?"
The Fisheries Officer says, "To call in the Lobsters."
The Newfie says, "What Lobsters?"

Good afternoon, warm day, and very humid.  I have been a long time catching up on all the post.

Joan, those croissants very tempting. Also LOL st some of those sayings.

Jane, I have many red hats, this is my only white one.  It is a Grey Norman hat, that I bought at the US Open he was playing in.

Amy prays for your hubby, hope the test will soon be over. I know they are tireing. By the way I am eating a banana, peanut butter and mayo sandwich right now.  Never heard of the other.

Jackie, hope you got some answers.

June, yes I am very lucky to have Diana as my neighbor. she is the same age as Dennis would have been, so she is almost like a daughter.  When I was came home from the hospital the first time, ahe would not take no for and answer, when I said I would be alright alone at night, so she would come down at night and sleep on the couch, also came in for a while when I took a shower. The last time I was in the hospital, my DIL from Fla. came up to stay.  Now she is in Pensacola with her son, while he learns to walk again.

Maryann, be glad to hear from you when the packing is out, know it must be uncomfortable. Take care, prays also going your way.

Hello Everyfriend!  The last time I came in here it wouldn't let me post.  And I'm not getting "notifications" when someone posts on a board that I'm watching.

As you might be able to deduce, I'm home from work and I've had lunch and I've taken care of the doggies and I distinctly hear the sofa calling my name.  I think I'll go see what she wants.  Maybe I'll be back and maybe I won't.

Linedancer--It's very warm here, too.  You sure do have nice neighbors.  I continue to pray for your grandson.

Janie--So far I haven't had any trouble posting.  I don't use notifications so don't know how that works.

Amy--Glad the van's a/c is fixed.  That 102 y/o Dad must have good genes--still coming to work daily.

Well, I was off collecting zzzs on the sofa and then feeding the dogs and me and cleaning up the kitchen.  My Texas daughter and her Phila daughter are going to be staying with me while we all help my hometown daughter move this weekend.  They'll be here around noon tomorrow.  I told her I wasn't going to clean for her but I lied.  I still have to do the bathroom before I go to bed tonight.

I hope you all had a good day and are enjoying the evening.

Lloyd, I haven't even  but not enough of them to can.  The eating is good though.  You must be in a different growing zone....just a bit further south.  The corn is beginning here also and it's gooooood!

My day is drawing to a close. Only five o'clock , but I have been dozing for a while, and want to sleep some more. I should go down for supper, but just don't feel like socializing so I will fix something here at home. I really enjoyed hearing my son speak to us today, of course I would enjoy him if he didn't speak so well too....I just love him so much. But again, he didn't have time to stay and chat. He is one busy guy, for being a retired. His Church keeps him on his toes for sure.

Bis, I am glad you had some time out with your friends. We all need that, for sure.

Janie, you have sounding a bit down lately. I hope all is will with you and yours.

Jeanne Lee, you too are having to make adjustments in your life style. Giving up your car does take getting used to, but you are wise to know what you can do, and what you have to change. You strike me as a very strong minded woman, and I know you will make the changes when needed. Some things no one can do for us, we have to be tough.

Guess I had better to get to my little kitchenette and stir up something for supper.

June, you are very perceptive.  I am a little down lately but it will pass.  I'll work it all out.  I always do.  Thank you for caring.

I'm off to Dreamland so I'll say...

Good Night Everyfriend!  May God bless us, every one!

Janie, I will join you in saying goodnight to all our dear friends here. I took a long walk outside tonight...nice fresh air. Met some lonely people, and others that were busy doing their "thing". Had a lovely email from my Dori girl. She is so good to me, and for me.

I pray all of you will have a blessed night and a happy tomorrow. I send you the usual hugs, Love and Prayers, which is such a pleasure to do. June.

Well they say sleep on it and more will be clear come the morning, re yesterdays SCAN.....Told there are fibroid's, told her I know before she done the scan.....I asked her could the fibroid's be causing my bleed, she said no, I very much doubt it, although last year ( different hospital ) asking the same question, I was told yes they could be to do with it.....anyway this is now ruling fibroid's out as causing my year long bleed but, does and can rule in the bulkiness or bulginess, not sure which word she used....Which now leads to the age old question, what else could it be causing this bulkiness, if it isn't the fibroid's?.....Along with things I rambled off talking to her about, I forgot the most important questions of " can you see the bleed? can you tell where the bleed is coming from? and what could be causing the bulkiness?of course I wasn't thinking of the fibroid's.....Oh well, sure all will come out in the end, when I get to see my GP, and find out where we go from here.......

Hm, Hospitals, we dont want to live with them, and yet we cant live without them.....yet we want to be seeing the back of them....as the well known saying goes...." less is more..."

Talking of hospitals, still not had any letter written feedback from my fortnight or so ago, new MS Consultant meeting.....of course amongst other things he had recommended me " anxiety " pills,......yes just pop one down my throat and all problems will just go away....
................................................................
I know this is a question we have all been asking but,......what ever happened to Kelly?  :dontknow:

Good morning everyone..

Where is Joan??? I hope Joan, you slept in and your not having computer problems.

Woke to the sound of a gentle rain and of course the robins having a loud chorus outside my window. I was going to cut the grass today and weed the vegetable garden but I guess that is out for now, maybe tomorrow. I do hope it rains all day! Yesterday while in the city I heard they are having a volunteer water restriction ...we are lucky here as we are on a good well .

Jackie, I hope they give you some answers re: your problem.

Will put some hot biscuits and honey in the hidey hole for you to nibble on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

CHUCKLES

Moving Out Of State

After living in our house for four years we were moving out of state. My husband had backed the truck up to our garage door so we could start loading all of the boxes. Just then one of our neighbors came walking across the lawn, carrying a plate full of muffins. "Isn't that thoughtful," my husband said to me. "They must have realized we packed our kitchen stuff."

The neighbor stuck out his hand and boomed, "Welcome to the neighborhood!"

Food For Thought

Today’s Prayer
Author Unknown

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23, NIV
Lord our God, we thank you for all you have done for us, for all you are doing for us, for deliverance from need and death. We thank you for all the signs you give us that you hear our prayer when, without wavering or weakening, we set our hopes on you. We thank you that we can be without fear of sin and death, for you stand by us in everything. In spite of our imperfections you show us your goodness again and again. May the light in our hearts never be extinguished, the light that enables us to look into heaven and earth and see the good that is on its way to us today. May joy remain with us, and may we have the strength to be a community that follows the paths of life which bring praise and honor to you.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The ground could use the rain here but we, as a family, don't need it.  We are moving my daughter from one house in town to another across town and rain is the last thing we want.  However, Mother Nature seems to think otherwise.  Rain is predicted for most of the afternoon.  I hope we can get most of the moving done before it starts.

I got up early and stripped the bed where my daughter and granddaughter will sleep.  It's all remade and ready for them.  I'll sleep on the pull-out in the living room so that when the doggies and I are up early, we won't wake them.  The sheets that were on that bed are in the washer to make up the pull-out so I'm on schedule.

I'll be off to feed the doggies and have my breakfast and then get myself ready for work.  I won't be able to join the moving party until the rain does around 1:30.

Have a lovely day, Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, looks like we had a little rain overnight.. We might have a thunderstorm later. Humidity is climbing, oppressive. Sure glad it is not like this for months at a time. I would ever go outside. Last 2 days I spent more time laying on the couch and watching TV and dozing. Just being lazy.

LLOYD  You will enjoy all that canning later in the winter months. I think of the years I canned and how we enjoyed it when it was freezing and snowing. Used to be some farms where we would go pick tomatoes for .50¢ a bushel now you cannot buy 1 pound for that price. Like your lobster joke.

JOAN  I am happy you took some “me” time yesterday. You deserve it with all you do for us.

JANE  the couch called me the last 2 days and I answered the call. Hope I have more energy today.

AMY  glad the AC in your van is working now. Sure would not go for a long ride without it. The 102 year old going to work every day is great. I love the sound of the Whippoorwills at night. That is until the night one was in the tree outside the bedroom window and woke me up. Same thing happened with a Mocking bird. I woke to the sound of birds, full moon, window open and very bright. Thought it must be time to get up till I looked at the clock. I kept listening to the different birds till I realized they were all coming from the same direction.

JOAN  one day I will really have to have eggs Benedict.
Chuckles, after 4 years the neighbor never bothered to meet them before, sad these days. Today's Prayer is a keeper. Thank you for today's goodies.

JANE  hopefully the rain will not start until after the moving is done.

Joan, there is no hurry to get yourself in here early, you sleep in if you get the chance to do so.....Just want to rest assured, that you will be in...... :)

Amy, think you have hiden them in your " hidey hole " too well, I am still hunting around and looking for them....oh well, " all good things come to those who wait....." or so they tell me.... ;D

Lloyd Hammond, think I prefer the taste of nectarines to peaches but, I do like the donut shaped peaches, they seem firmer than the round....

Jane S, oh that is the fun in having doggies, they tend to wake you early first thing in the morning.....I am sure your daughter wont mind being woken up for an early morning dog kiss....

Gloria, I think the heat can make one tired and lethargic.....

Shirley, you can leave the light turned low in the dimmer switch mode....I dont wish to trip over the cat first thing in the morning and disturb Everyfriends who are still well asleep...

Junedrabek, I am betting you made some lonely peoples day, yesterday....

Joan....." moving out of state..." now I am asking the question, just what did they do with their muffin.?....

Good MOrning Everyone!

Janie, I hope the move goes well and the girls cheer you up.  Also, bet that bed will feel good tonight.

Lloyd you and Nancy are energetic.  Best I can remember canning is a hot job and one I didn't like as a boy.  Seems the ladies always had something for us kids to do.

Jackie, hopefully they will figure things out for you.

Well I have to go get myself cleaned up and ready.  Got bible study this morning, some of the things we are studying I would bet some of your ladies wouldn't agree with.  We are studying  1 Corinthians.

Amy hope that rain keeps up.  Will make it easier to weed the garden.

Joan hope you just get some rain, along with us.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I know you will enjoy those canned peaches when the snow "flies".

Janie--Good morning.  You've been a busy bee already and for sure will be the rest of the day with working and helping with your daughter's move.  Hopefully the rain will hold off until the moving is completed.

Good morning, Gloria.  I wish you could send some of that rain our way.  I don't go out often in this oppressive heat, but since I was already out doing errands yesterday, I thought I might as well get with my friends for breakfast.

Vanilla-Jackie--As you know I seldom sleep as late as I did today.  I guess being out and about yesterday really tired me out.

halkel--Good morning.  I hope both of us get some rain.

Good Morning, Joan and all the other friends,

Thanks for the Eggs Benedict,.  That is an extra treat for my breakfast this morning.

A pretty sunny morning here in Central Maryland.  Supposed to be very hot today.  The electric company are asking people to cut back on their use of large appliances between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.  I have a plan called "Peak Awards"  and the electricity will be cut back during those hours.  I will get a discount on my electric bill for the amount of energy I saved.  There was one of these days last week and they called me the next day and said I will save about $7 off my bill.  I didn't see any difference in the temperature inside when they cut back.  I have my Kindle all charged up and I will read most of the afternoon and not watch the TV for that time period. I also have a pile of papers I can go through also.  I am a paper saver and sometimes it really builds up.

Hope everyfriend will have a great day.  Try to stay cool if you are in the parts of the company that are having this big heat wave.

And, also try to stay dry if you having a lot of rain.

But, most of all, try and enjoy your day.

Joy

It was good to get out for awhile yesterday.  I have some new library books to read myself to sleep with.  And, I sat and people watched while David walked around inside our big mall.  One trip clear around is exactly 1 mile long.  He even went for another walk after we got home though it was so hot.  He loves to walk and doesn't mind the hot weather.  Also, we stopped at the French bakery and picked up some cannoli, a nice baguette, and some delicious looking layered pastry called a "Black Forest".   And, I had a French lesson from the owner of the bakery on how to pronounce "mille feuille".  That is a layered pastry that Americans usually call Napoleons.  This bakery makes wonderful ones but they were sold out.  She said they sell out very early and if I want some I must come in the morning.  All in all it was a nice day out.

Grocery shopping today even though the temp. is supposed to be around 97°!  At least the car will be cool and so will the store.  It's the in-between that is uncomfortable.

Take care, everyone.  And... :) s..., Jane, and lots of them.

Good Morning Everyone, from the
warm  (in the upper 70's) and slighly more
humid,  rocky coast of Maine.

I have my AC on (put it on in the middle of the
night) to accommodate the higher humidity,
which we have today.  For us here on the
rocky coast, comfortable weather is all about
the humidity (which today is going to be higher
today)

I think that I will go out for a walk before
the temps go up.

Have a good day,  everyone.

Phyllis, quite often its these short trips out, or the most basic of places, that turn out meaning the most to us....we never know who we will meet to have some short chats with, or longer conversations with....and some can leave a lasting impression on us.....Its so refreshing to pop out, then come home happy in the fact that we did pop out to that place in the first place, often stopping off somewhere new on the return journey, just some advertising sign notice we spot, that draws us in...if you understand what I mean... ;)
We have something over here called a " Black Forest Gateau...."

Hi everyone.  Another ditto day as far as the weather goes.  Our Weather Station said we got to 104 degrees yesterday.  It was a very busy day as I got out early and took care of 5 errands.  When I went to take the wrong sized window back they realized they had made mistake in ordering and said they would order the correct window and told me just to discard the window.  I measured our windows and it won't fit any of them so have it on the street for city pickup this morning. However, the hardware store just called and asked if I still have it as they had given me someone else's window and mine to the other person.  So I recovered it from the street and the lady said she would be out to pick it up and if not I will just take it back.  Hopefully they can recover mine.

We enjoyed a nice lunch with Scott at Ruby Tuesdays and later last evening he came out for awhile.  Nothing out of the ordinary on tap for today.  I will go to coffee and then the Wisdom class and then spend the rest of the day taking it easy.

Hal, I see you were multi-tasking with the yard man and your SIL.  Keep up the good work.  :)

Jackie, glad those tests are over for you.  It sounds like you had a lovely lunch.

Gloria, when I worked at our Calvin Cove at our church, which provided care for those that couldn't be left alone, I saw some of those Meals on Wheels meals and do remember the lack of color on them.  At my folks Senior Center in Missouri the meals were great.  I just picked two more tomatoes this morning from our two plants.

Lloyd, your fresh produce sounds wonderful.  At least the rain gives you time for the inside things like the canning or freezing and perhaps a little more time of relaxation.

JaneS, I hope having your daughters around for the weekend move will help cheer you up.

Janie--I wish you nothing but smiles at work. :) :) :)

Good morning, Joy.  I don't think they have anything here like your "Peak Awards".  If they do, it's certainly not advertised.

Phyllis--Good morning.  How nice you got out yesterday.  Your mention of the various pastries makes my mouth water.  I'll take one of each, please.:)

Good morning, Sandy.  As you know we have many months when we have VERY high humidity.

Vanilla-Jackie--I'd like to search out some new places, but with the weather so hot this time of year, I have to mostly staying inside with the a/c.

Larry--Good morning.  What a fiasco over that window.  Nice that you, Pat and Scott could have dinner together at Ruby Tuesday's.

Amy--When my father could no longer prepare his own meals, we got "Meals on Wheels" for him.  After about a week I called him to ask how that was working out (he lived 2,000 miles away) and he said the 3rd time they came he told them not to come back.  According to him they were like eating shoe leather.:)

Oh, Amy, I do love to hear the mocking birds.... we've had some here that can go on & on without a repeat of any song.  One time when visiting my husband's mother, a mocking bird seemed to follow my husband where ever he went, drove him nuts with it's constant singing.  We usually left in the dark, "someone" in the family was always in a rush to get home, and stop for a nap in the car at the visitor center near Paducah,KY, to miss the rush hour traffic going through St.Louis.  Would you believe that a mocking bird sat in the tree near our car & kept going through it's routine until my husband gave up & we left.

Jackie, after 30 years in this house I still keep night lights in the hall between bedrooms and entry hall and another in the hall to the kitchen/family room.  The builders must have been laughing their heads off when they put this place together, rooms jutting out at every angle.  Good luck with what the tests turn up, I had a history of all "female" troubles & kept putting the doctors off of surgery & finally got an all clear, hope you can get off as easy.

Watch out Lloyd, we just had a sudden storm come through with winds clocked at 80 mph at the airport... sheets of rain & quite a few without power right now.  One semi truck blown over on a highway that runs through town.  Really a fast blast & more to come, hopefully not as wicked.  Will have to check out your Amish store next time I go through, I'm always looking for apples to bring home.  Mo used to have the best, Grimes Golden Delicious.... for making pies.  Hardly needed any sugar they were so sweet.

Larry, good your trash service didn't come early!  People mixing up happens more often than we think.  My husband & our 10 year old son had X-rays of their teeth at the same time (same dentist).... and next time I took my son for the fillings the dentist was telling me that "those wisdom teeth needed to come out" and which teeth needed fillings.  Took me a few minutes to realize what was going on.... he was holding my husband's X-rays, quite a difference between a 10 year old that didn't have even a start of wisdom teeth.  We found another dentist.  I've never been to Ruby Tuesdays, what do you recommend?

Our real time temp was 101 yesterday with "feel like" of 108 & 110.  Not comfy, the humidity felt like someone sitting on me.  I don't like summer and hate the thought of at least a couple more months of this.  Doesn't seem as bad when it cools down at night & can open the house for fresh air.  I really have a problem with being "caged".

Joan, when in high school cooking class we made Eggs Benedict.... but since each team of girls took one item to "put in the pot".. I have no idea what all went in or how it tasted.  We weren't required to eat it.  Guess I will Google to see what I've been missing all these years.  I was not the best student in "Home Ec" class.

Phyll, there is a place in Wichita that started as a bakery but serves soups & sandwiches now.... that made cream puffs like my mother did, the old French way. The bakery that used to make the same type cream filling long ago closed, good thing, any time I was on that side of town I would pick up half a dozen & eat them all the way home, then share the ones left with my husband (never told him how many I had already eaten).  Need to check & see if that place is still open, will get carry out.  My friends are always on a diet & that's not exactly diet food.

Have a great day, everyone.... Gloria, talking about apples, will your son have any this year "for the family"?  I enjoyed your photos and descriptions of each variety... could almost taste them.

Joan, my father said the same.... he loved home cooking and very picky about who/whom did the cooking!

We also have meals on wheels here in UK, have to admit I have never heard of anyone who actually does have them delivered but we also have advertised another home delivery called Wiltshire Farmfoods, seems as if its based on the same principal....The advert for these home delivery meals are done with comedian Ronnie Corbett but....my betting is he has never eaten one of these meals in his life......he can afford the best...

Joan, that saying brings back memories, I remember my father referring to something being eaten..." as tough as old leather..."

Canning Peaches.  Does anyone do "pickled peaches"  I haven't seen them for years and I loved them.  With all the cloves and spices.  I could have eaten the whole jar if they had let me.

I was trying to remember how we used slip the skins off peaches.  Seems like we scaled them and then placed them in cold water and the skins would just slip right off.  But I may have left out something.

Good morning from another bright sunshiny day in the Interior! We are again to be in the upper eighties today and hopefully keep some of that rain further out!

Hal, when you mentioned the peaches, I remembered the cloves and that both my Missouri and my Kansas Grandmothers made those as well as my mother and one long time, thirty years, next door neighbor as well. I went Googling and found several recipes similar to what I remember and this one is very close. If I recall, the peaches were dumped quickly in and then out of a boiling water bath. My Kansas grandmother, when she died, at 100 years, had an entire room filled with jars upon jars of canned goods. Jars brimming with color and goodness!

I think I will try this and bring back some memories.

Larry your comments about Meals On Wheels reminded me of my experience using their services.  When I was discharged from the hospital I wasn't fit to go  shopping so I ordered Meals on Wheels. The price was extremely affordable and they delivered food by volunteers. However, I found that the meals were only a tad better than the meals they served in the hospital so I gave up on them and went into respite care. But those folks do a good thing and for folks on a low budget they are quite adequate.

Hal,  you had it right...... how to skin a peach.   Easy to do!

And, yes, I do remember eating pickled peaches. It seems my aunt used to make them and they were good.  I will have to look for them at a couple of the farmer's markets I get to.  I know my aunt always made pickled watermelon rind.  They were good, also.  You only use the white part of the watermelon,... (not the rind).  Took time to trim all the white away.

I wasn't never into canning.  I canned peaches one time, and I wound up throwing them all away.  I was so afraid that I hadn't done them right and they would cause us all to get sick.  Never tried again.  My mother did a little bit, but not much.  My aunt used to make her own ketchup.  To me it was too watery.  I have to stick with Heinz ketchup as they are who pay all my bills.   My husband retired from there after 30 years.  They were a great company to work for.  He took a little cut in his pension when he retired so that he would get a raise every year.  He has been gone for 10 years,  and I still get that raise.  I am sure things are a lot different now with the new owners.  Cannot believe after several generations that the family sold the company.  I am sure old H.J. is rolling over in his grave.  LOL

Good luck on finding some of the pickled peaches.

Patricia,  thanks for the recipe for the Pickled Peaches.  Sure is easy enough.

However,  it didn't say anything about processing them?   Do you think they would keep ok by not processing them?

If so,   I sure might try some of them.

And, Hal, they are easy enough,  that you could make some, also.

Good Morning everyone ! We're all in our places, with sunshiny faces, and this is the way….to start a new day ? Sing along my friends..we have another chance to make our lives worthwhile. Or as a wise person once said, "How do you justify your existence"? That one sure brought me up short. I still don't know the answer.

Jackie, I do hope you can get some satisfactory answers from your G.P. I am making a written list to ask my doctor next visit we have. She comes here once a month. My appt. is the 27th. so it is necessary for me to have a list..I would never remember all my questions without one.

Bis, I am so happy that you got some extra sleep this morning, that is so refreshing to wake up all by yourself at a later hour.

Jane, a busy day ahead for you. I am glad your daughter is just moving across town and not far away. It feels so good to have Gary and Dori just 20 minutes away from me, instead of two hours.

Gloria, it is good to take a "time out" and just be lazy. Better than being in a hospital bed where you cannot do what you want, but just lay there and wait for a tomorrow to happen. We have no rain at all in sight for us and it is so badly needed.

Hal, my mother loved to can, even in hot summer days in Mn. she fired up the cook stove and boiled jars and food stuffs. One time, she asked me to can peaches for her. She could no longer do it herself, so she sat in a chair and directed me..this was when I was in my sixties or more..but it worked. She got her jars of home grown peaches, and was so thankful.

Phyllis, You are blessed to have such a great son. I know you prize him as I do mine. I'm glad you had a day at the Mall. I can enjoy just sitting and do some people watching. Not as restful as sitting by a nice quiet stream in the forest, but people watching is like reading a good book.

I must cut this short, and get dressed. We have a program of Music Bingo in less than half an hour.
So……..ta,ta.

Shirley--I have night lights all over the house.  That way I don't have to fumble for light switches when I am wandering around during the night.

Vanilla-Jackie--Those meals in your link look tasty plated, but wonder what they REALLY taste like.

halkel--I remember my fraternal grandmother had pickles peaches in her canning cellar.

angelface--The peaches in your link sound good, but I wouldn't go to the trouble of making them.

Radioman--I guess if a person got hungry enough they'd eat the Meals on Wheels.

Joy--If you decide to make those peaches, could you please put some in the "hidey hole"?

June--It did seem nice to wake up a bit later.  Enjoy your "Music Bingo".

Joy, I went back and looked and you're right about no type of processing. Perhaps in that method, it is not needed? I remember, but not why or wholly, that my mother would plunge the peaches with a slotted spoon into a boiling water bath and then into one with ice water. She almost always used the water method of canning as a finishing

I was drafted along with my sisters into working the garden, picking the fruit or vegetables and preparing the meat or foodstuffs. So much so that I swore never to do it again after leaving home. Now, of course, I regret that as I remember the finished product fondly but not how that was reached!

In 2014, I became very allergic to a chemical or chemicals in processed, convenience, or microwaved foods.  I sometimes become violently ill, and a hospital is very expensive, so I've learned to cook clean and to attempt to relearn what my parents tried to teach me so long ago. There is, I'm sure, a saying about that somewhere. But it is another thing I've forgotten!

June, how do you justify your existence is another old saying, "actions speak louder than words." One of my father's famous last words to any arguments with us!

I remember the grown ups talking about canning accidents where the pressure cookers exploded.  They always made sure all the safety gizmo's were working.
My Dad's mother is the one who made the pickled peaches and they were good.
She also made a triple layer coconut cake that was outstanding.  That a cold glass of buttermilk was to die for.

Joy, I don't even know where I could buy a bushel of peaches without heading into the hill country to some of the groves up there.  I did put up peaches one year in Canada, when we first bought a deep freeze.  But I froze them and they were good.  I also put up some corn on the cob.  Actually I have thought maybe doing some corn on the cob in the microwave and freezing them in our small freezer.  But since the dentist just worked on a front tooth and told me to take special care in eating anything I had to use a lot of pressure, may not be a good idea.  Ah, the joy (no pun intended) of aging.  But still have most of my own teeth.

I remember going out to my Dad's mothers place after she had died and they were fixing to sell the place and going into the cellar of the smoke house and Granny had shelves of canned goods.  No telling how old some of it was.  Even some home made wine my Grandfather had put up before he died in 1942.  More than likely just vinegar it was so old.

Joy, if you intend to eat the peaches within a few days it probably is only necessary to put them in the fridge and no boiling water bath would be necessary.  But, if you put them up for use several months away then I definitely would process the filled jars in a boiling water bath.  That will seal the air out and inhibit bacterial growth.  My mother canned everything she could.  I still remember the rows and rows of jars of beautiful fruit and vegs. lined up on the shelves in the basement.  I brought home a bag of peaches today but they need to ripen on the counter for a couple of days and then I'll turn them into peach cobbler.....no canning for me.  Too much work and it's too hot!  :hot:

Joan, I think you and I ought to get together (and anyone else who wants to come along) and go to the bakery and buy one of everything!  We'll put them in the hidey hole and sneak something delicious to have with a cup of tea every afternoon.  It might help you put on that little bit of weight that you would like to have.  I could probably stand to lose about 10 lbs, or more, but my doctor says if my BP is ok and I feel good then I don't need to worry about it too much......so, I don't.  I figure that at my age I deserve to do what I want to do.

The Ball Blue Book (my canning bible) says that pickled peaches are to be processed 20 minutes in a boiling water bath.  They do sound good!  Peach season is almost over here.

When I left Cathy's new house, the moving was almost complete.  Now they have to begin to organize.  I don't envy her that job!  I don't ever plan to move out of this house.  While I was over there, someone said, "You had to pick the hottest day of the summer to move.  I sure don't feel like doing this today!"  I said, "Neither do I and I'm not going to!"  One of the perks of old age.

I have to think about something for supper.  I don't know if they are coming back here or not.  When I left they were discussing pizza.  If I'm lucky, that's what they decided.  But just in case, I checked my freezer.  I'm OK.

Keep cool Everyfriend!

Jane you are always so helpful and informative. My mother used a pressure cooker many times but she also used a large kettle with a rack for the jars. Do you have any information on what those are? The kettle I mean.

I do not do much as I only have the typical freezer on top although I do make my own pickles, ketchup, (not watery!), mayo, yogurt, and a few other items from recipes that are quick and easy for small batches. And of course, I freeze so much.

One simple thing that cuts costs is simple syrup which is the basis for so many alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. It is simply equal parts water and sugar boiled together and kept in the fridge for three weeks. For lemonade, I put in two tablespoons of real lemon juice, one cup sugar, and one cup water on to boil. You use very little of the syrup, personal preference, and then add water. You may then add fruit, berries or alcohol to taste. It's miles away from the supermarket mixes and at least two-thirds less in price!

Joan, they told me the first time in the emergency room that it is a chemical used in preserving the convenience or processed food and they have seen an increase in these types of allergies. Unfortunately, I am beginning to have symptoms in foods such as canned fruit and canned soups.

They are not sure what chemical or chemicals specifically cause this, but it is also happening with foods from fast food places particularly McDonalds so these chemical preservatives are causing issues with more folks but especially I was told babies, toddlers, and seniors in their experience.

Patricia, I still have one of my mother's canning kettles.  She had two, a large one for quart jars and a smaller one for pint jars as well as a Presto pressure cooker.

The kettles are black graniteware with a rack that held the jars and a handle to lift them out of the kettle.  I checked Amazon and they still have them for sale which was kind of surprising as I didn't think many of the young people do much canning.

I quit canning when I got my freezer.  It was a lot easier to freeze things rather than stand over a hot stove!

AF, your mothers pot was probably a blue granite water bath canner.  There have been two sizes available for more years than we have on us.  I have one that used to belong to my mother and I'll never give it up.  All it is, is a large straight sided, flat bottomed kettle with a rack to hold up to 7 jars and a lid.  I use mine to sterilize the jars while I'm preparing the food to put in them and then I put the prepared jars back in and make sure there's enough water to cover them and bring it back to a boil and process the time suggested in my Ball Blue Book...my canning bible.  There are many new canners on the market but old blue granite ones are still available.

Note:  mine are blue granite, Joy and they still have them at Wal-Mart and some of the hardware stores, too.

My daughter and granddaughter came and left again.  They are meeting some of Cindy's friends for some kind of concert in a park nearby.  They'll be back to sleep here tonight.  They asked me to go along but that's not my thing.  Cindy brought me wedding pictures.  That's my thing!

Patricia, my mother also used the big "tub" with rack to hold the jars apart to can.  I loved the pickled peaches. Twice made picklelilly because I had lots of green tomatoes.  Cost a fortune to buy all the other stuff, looked great, smelled just like Mom's and tasted like it.  First time I had to take my husband to the Dr before time was up for the water bath, neighbor that gave me the recipe also loaned me the big pot.  Since I turned it off before time, I was chicken about feeding to anyone after the first few days so took the jars out to the garden and returned the stuff to the ground.  Killed me to empty all those jars.  Next time I cooked it & put in jars to seal but was afraid the person I got that method from might have forgotten some of the steps so dumped those jars as well.  Never again, like some of you, I remember the taste & smell but never learned the "how to".

Yep, Jane, dark blue granite with little white specks, huh?  I think my daughter was given most of Mother's recipe books, including the Ball canning one.  Mother loved having her visit & always sent her home with stacks of what was Mother's treasures... mainly her recipe books.

Mary, I still use a pressure cooker often but got a smaller one than my old Presto.  This one is stainless steel.  I retired the old one since it needed another rubber gasket & cost as much (almost) as the new stainless one.

I agree with the problems of preservatives in foods... I've been on a tomato & fresh corn kick & have a feeling what has caused my rash & maybe the cough.... we all know when there's no bugs in fresh food something has been implanted in the seeds or sprayed ... a real catch 22.  I still shudder at the thought of those worms under the silks of corn~  haven't seen one in years.

halkel--Nice memories.

Phyllis--GREAT idea for the two of us to go to that bakery and buy one everything.

Janie--I don't blame you for going home and letting the rest of them complete the moving.  Pizza would be a good choice for the gang.

angelface--That's too bad you are developing even more allergies to foods with preservatives.

MaryTX--I never canned.  As kids we did have to help my mother.

Shirley--You'd better cut back on the tomatoes and corn.

One thing a friend mentioned to me Shirley, he was from Joplin, is the aerial spraying that is done with pesticides and "Roundup." This is from up in the air and gets on more than just the fields and also has killed birds and animals. I wonder if this may be part of the increase in allergies?

Also as Lloyd has mentioned, the GMO types of engineered foods.

Jane and Mary, my mother's kettle was gray, but now I have some places to look. I'm not interested in large batches, but saving some for the winter months has an appeal. Especially with the monthly farm shares, I receive in the summer and fall.

I also got rid of my nonstick cookware that was scratched and have changed to one large and one small cast iron pan and one 12" electric skillet. I have one medium size pot and three large pots for the cooking to the freezer mixes. I also use a slow cooker and rice maker and that is the extent of my downsized kitchen. I may add a small pressure cooker and canning kettle to that

One upside to clean eating is that I've lost 25 lbs. of stubborn weight and really only have 33 to go and I'm not dieting.

Joan, I just wish I knew what the chemical is as it changes eating out and with friends and you don't want to make a fuss so you stay home.

There were a few years when I didn't can a lot because I had two big freezers in the basement.  Plus I had a side-by-side in the kitchen.  But when I moved here, all I had was the top freezer on the fridge that they left here for me.  No place to put any of the big freezers I had before.  So, little by little, I began to can more and more of summer's bounty and discovered that I like it a lot better than frozen stuff.  When I can open a closet and a jar of home made veggie soup is staring me in the face on a cold January day, there's no doubt in my mind that the time making it and canning it was well spent.  I love to see all those goodies and I'm very slow putting them away when they are done.

Shirley, if the lids had gone down on your jars and they didn't click when you pressed on them, they were safe to keep for up to a year.  Pickles keep even longer.  Anything with vinegar in it will keep.  Go out and dig that stuff up!

Patricia, if you only want to do a few jars of something and one of your large pots has a lid, I'll let you in on a trick you can use so you don't have to go out and buy a canner.

At this point in my life,  I won't be doing any kind of canning.  First of all,  I can't stand as long as it takes to get everything ready.  Plus, I don't have that big of a pantry to keep too many extras.

If I do decide to do some of the peaches, I will cut that recipe down and only do a few and just keep them in the fridge. They will get eaten pretty quickly.

I got a lot of "stuff" done today while not having the computer or the TV one.    I had turned the air off and I was very comfortable all day.  For one thing, I don't get any sun during the afternoon.  The time for the energy saving was from 1 to 7 and I turned the TV back on about 6:45 to see the end of the news   I will be interested in knowing how much I will have saved on my electric bill.

Have a good evening.

Jane, I wanted to mention that  I was surprised to hear that your peach season is almost over.  I can remember my grandfather talking about October peaches were the best.   I am in Maryland,  not too far from you.  I have just noticed our local peaches just starting.

Have you ever been to Brown's Orchard,  which is down in Loganville, Pa.  just a little south of York off Rt. 83.    They have a big orchard and a beautiful store.  Years ago, my mom and dad used to go up there and all they sold were peaches from a little roadside stand. Now it is a really nice place.   And, I know they used to go in Sept. and Oct.  Would make a nice little day trip sometime when your daughter's would be with you.

It is 89 degrees now on my recessed balcony and perhaps we'll reach the 92 predicted!

Joy, it isn't the standing I have issues with. It's the getting there that's an issue!   Of course sometimes I cheat and sit on the kitchen stool after assembling most of what I will be using.

All this talk of places to go and things to eat and I will need to borrow Joan's broom! Since I live just 3000 miles from Seattle, a road trip would be a tad expensive!  :-\

Bis, I did enjoy Music Bingo, and won a whole handful of tickets to be used at our little store in the club house. They carry a big variety of small items, and it is handy to be able to shop there. They also accept cash for those that do not win tickets.

Patricia, another old saying that my mother always used on me…her tom boy style daughter was, "Pretty is as pretty does". I hated it. Felt I was who I was, so I would never be pretty.

Joy, I am joining you in being a NON-canner. In fact I am more and more a NON-cooker. I take my main meal downstairs at noon, then usually bring half my serving home for supper. Today I had an egg salad sandwich, and they do not skimp on the filling, plus a nice green salad, v-8 juice, and two puddings that are now residing in my fridge. And I always keep canned soups, tuna, sardines, etc. on the cupboard shelf, along with a small varieties of breads in my freezer. Also there are always, day and night, bananas, oranges, and apples available in the dining rooms.

I feel most fortunate living where I am now. I lack nothing. And what I enjoy most is that my children have the peace of mind and freedom not to worry about Mom.l God is Good.

Joy, I apologize for that faux pas.  The peach season is NOT almost over.  It's in full swing.  I'm not a peach lover so I really don't pay attention.  No I've never been to the market you mentioned.  The southern border of PA is a good two hours from where I live.  Most of the markets I go to are nearby.  When you live in the country, that's one of the perks.

Patricia, if you can get 3 or 4 pint jars in your pot, you can use it to can 3 or 4  pints.  It's deep enough to cover them and boiling water bath doesn't usually take that long.  If you wanted to do more than 3 you could do it twice.  All you need in addition to the jars and lids is a thick terry cloth wash cloth (or two thinner ones) to put in the bottom of the pot so the jars aren't sitting directly on metal.

JACKIE  I know the heat and humidity always wears me out. The older I get the worse it is. Even staying inside the sound of the AC gets to me.

JOAN  we didn't get much rain here but other places in the state did. It was cooler today with no sun so I did go outside. Our 99 years young lady came home last night after a month in San Diego. She showed us a picture of her in a vintage car in the Coronado July 4th parade.

HAL  I have never disagreed with anything in the Bible.

JANE  too late to wish you smiles but I hope the moving is all done now and the rain held off.

PHYLLIS  you have my mouth watering talking about the pastry in the French Bakery. There is a dairy next town to here and they have a bakery. Every thing looks so good but it is all filled with whipped cream. Tastes good but some pastry would taste better with a different filling.

LARRY  good thing the called before the trash pickup, Hope they find your window. Oh go ahead, rub it in about picking 2 tomatoes. I am now drooling at the remembered taste of a tomato fresh picked. Best taste there could be for me. If the Meals on Wheels here were good I would have signed up for them. I see them delivered here, there used to be a lot getting them but now only a few still do.  Something has to look food and smell good for me to eat it.

AMY  a mocking bird imitates all the birds it hears.  Amazing how they do that. Have not heard a Whippoorwill since I moved from that house more than 40years ago.

JOAN  you and me both with the pastry Phyllis talked about. There was a Italian bakery near the market and I stopped there often and had a hard time making up my mind which one looked more tempting than another. Always went home with too much of it. Even a frozen TV dinner is better than the Meals on Wheels but they are filled with preservatives.

SHIRLEY  the night the Mocking bird woke me I thought all the birds were waking. Only one bird doing all that singing. Don't know how long it kept up before I could go back to sleep. You and me both feel the same about summer heat and humidity. I am more that ready for autumn weather to get here. I have a recipe for cream puffs and the filling but can no longer make them. I am back where I was 70 years ago, could eat everything and not gain an ounce.  No apples at all this year. Was warm in February and that a few night of freeze in April killed the blossoms. As if that wasn't bad enough we were infested this summer with the gypsy moth caterpillars. They are the leaves on all his apple trees. They did a number all over the state. Last tie I went to the doctors I got to see the trees along the roads, looked like winter trees with no leaves. Not the moths are flying all around. Cannot enjoy going out because they fly around your head. State said there weren't many so would not spray for them. They save money in the wrong places. The first woman governor in this state and she wants things her way. The state reps and senators are finally starting to go against her. Maybe next election they will vote for a Republican.  Only had a few of those in this state. My CNA  always wants to cook for me but she can never follow a recipe even with me telling her what and how much and how long to cook. Nothing is edible for me.

HAL  wash the peaches or tomatoes, have a pan of boiling water, put a few in the water and a minute later take them out an out in ice cold water. The skins slide right off. I canned enough of them that I never forgot how to do it. You do peaches and tomatoes the same way. It is scald them not scaled them. Sure wish I could do that again.

PATRICIA  sounds good.

DON  here those meals on wheels are worse than hospital food.

JOY  I have had pickles watermelon rind, home made and was surprised at how tasty it was. Lot of work with that one. One thing I could never find is the apple rings that are red and spicy. Only place I ever had them was in restaurants, so good. When using something with   vinegar an pouring the boiling hot brine or syrup over to cover the food in the jar and putting the lid and ring on tight right away the jars should seal. Sit the jar on a towel out of drafts and you should hear a pop. That means it is sealed. The lids if pushed on in the center should not move but it is does when cool put in fridge and use ASAP. The sealed ones will keep a long time. That is how I made pickles and relish anything with vinegar.

JUNE  last time I was in a hospital was when I had shoulder surgery.  I sure hated being in a room by myself and I was not happy with that hospital. Never looked clean to me. That was my first time in that oe and I would never want to go to that one again. I never once saw anyone wash their hands. At the airport waiting for a flight I people watched.  Saw some weird people.

JOAN  I thought the same about the taste of those meals. What they called pies looked like nothing I ever saw as a pie before. I would starve before eating one of those meals on wheels I saw here.

PATRICIA  I did so much canning it is amazing how much of it I do remember. I really enjoyed doing it and seeing it all nice and ready for winter. Only one thing I am allergic to and that is raw onions.

HAL  when I started canning it was in the hot water bath. I finally bought a big canner and never had any trouble with it. A lot faster to process. I'll take that cake but no buttermilk for me. Love anything coconut.

PHYLLIS  count me in, I would love to go to that bakery.

JANE  I think that for anyone who canned had the Ball Blue Book. I know mine was falling apart. My daughter has one now. She got the urge to try canning about 10 years ago so she started when most think of quitting.

PATRICIA  the lady who taught me about canning and a huge oval copper canner with the rack on the bottom. Took up 2 burners on the stove. Don't remember if she ever called it anything but the canner. It could hold 10 or 12 quart canning jars so had a lot of water in it to cover the jars. When I had a freezer it was much easier to freeze the food than to can it. I know I cannot eat TV dinners because the preservatives in them burn my throat.

MARY TX  when I go a freezer is when I stopped canning too.  Things like the peaches taste better frozen, they are not overcooked that way.

My goodness I was gabby tonight. I have been here in the SS for more than 2 hours now. Time to say good night to everyone.

Nervous Dental Patient

Employed as a dental receptionist, I was on duty when an extremely nervous patient came for root-canal surgery. He was brought into the examining room and made comfortable in the reclining dental chair. The dentist then injected a numbing agent around the patient's tooth, and left the room for a few minutes while the medication took hold.

When the dentist returned, the patient was standing next to a tray of dental equipment, "What are you doing by the surgical instruments?" asked the surprised dentist.

Focused on his task, the patient replied, "I'm taking out the ones I don't like."

Food For Thought

Growth Spurts

Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1:1-11

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in ¬every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Ephesians 4:15
Researchers say parents in America spend an average of sixty dollars per month on baby clothing. That is a lot of money. If your child is going through a growth spurt, it can seem like the money is going down the drain fast. On the other hand, would you rather have your child stop growing?
It can be hard, especially for parents, to watch a child struggling to grow and develop properly. It’s even more difficult, however, for our heavenly Father to watch us faltering spiritually. Paul grieved that the Corinthian believers weren’t maturing spiritually: “I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready” (1 Corinthians 3:2). Some of the signs of spiritual immaturity are jealousy and quarreling (1 Corinthians 3:3), being tossed around by false teaching (Ephesians 4:14), and failing to distinguish good from evil (Hebrews 5:14).
Committing your life to Christ may take just a moment, but spiritual growth is a lifelong process that takes place in cycles. As Peter puts it, we need faith, and then we grow in goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. As time goes on, believers grow toward maturity in each of these qualities.
Do you have that desire to grow?

Good Moring Everyfriend!  The doggies and I are up but the girls are still sleeping.  I don't expect them to get up until after I've gone to work.  Cindy is on Texas time and that means that right now it's only nearing 5 o'clock in her system.  I might be wrong about her, though because this is about when she usually gets up to prepare for work.

I hope you all have a great day today.  I'm going to go feed the doggies and get myself ready for work so if they do get up, I'll have a couple minutes to visit.

Good morning everyone.

We had beautiful rain off and on all day yesterday..now the lawn is starting to look green again.

Daughter in love is coming to stay a few days and catch up on her sewing.

I still do pickles, jams, relishes down and put vegetables in the freezer. Don't care for the store bought relish and only have to do that one every other year, depends on what I give away to others. Nice to see all the jars filled and lined up on the shelves.

Gloria, the monarch butterfly is also missing in this area.It used to be you would see lots of the on the milkweed but now your lucky if you see a couple of them in summer.

Lloyd ,good morning.

Jane , have a great day at work.

Joan thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Friday almost noon here in UK.....our today weather is dry, part sunny with pleasant warm temps...
As usual I am pottering around part keeping myself busy inside the home....have the second of three washing and drying on the go....Was up around three'ish, lo let Benji out to do some business, then when I got up later around 6.am, let the dogs out again, cleared up a couple of messes before dogs went again, think I got through five bags, plus the other two with Toby, seeings Benjis were mainly quite sloppy......anyway dont think you really want to be hearing this, besides you might be eating your breakfasts, but again, several trips up and down the back garden has also been keeping me busy...

Good morning, Lloyd.  I hope your day goes well.

Janie--Good morning.  How long will your company be staying?  I hope everyone at WM has a BIG smile on their face.

Good morning, Amy.  It seems so many places have rain, and I sure wish we'd get some, too.  Enjoy your daughter-in-love's visit.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning/afternoon.  You sure have already been a busy lady.

Good Morning Joanie.  My kids are staying until "the crack of dawn" on Sunday.  I'm off tomorrow and can spend some time with them.  I'm looking forward to that.  We are having breakfast tomorrow with my cousin who Cindy has not seen since she was little.  They made a contact through facebook and the breakfast is a result of that.

I was up a little before 6 and was sitting here enjoying my coffee and browsing the net when I suddenly heard this knock on the front door.  Made me jump.  It was the lawn care man.  I knew he was scheduled to come today but I didn't know he would be here so early.

Another hot day but "they" hold out the promise that tomorrow will be cooler.  Well, at least, by comparison.  The "cooler" means it will finally be below 90°.

Joy, I am with you.  I don't do canning....never did.  When my boys were babies I had a sterilizer that I used everyday to make up formula for them.  It could also be used as a canner but never was.  I remember Mother had one of the old granite canners that she used for canning and for a lot of other things.  I can still see it steaming away on the old kitchen stove filled with my Dad's shirts that she used to boil to get them sparkling white.  Ah, the good old days.....they were never as good as we remember them.   ;)

Good morning everyone, sun is shining for now. Once abain we have possible thunderstorms in the forecast for this afternoon, this time in this part of the state. ill see how the weather guesser is right. II like putting te news on in the morning but o many shooting and then that truck driver in France going into that crowd is another horrible bit of news I think we are all upset about. So many who just like killing innocent people.

JOAN  breakfast looks great this morning. I do like waffles. Wonder if that dental patient would like the dentist to use the instruments that are no longer sterile. Growth Spurts, wonder if those terrorists ever believe in anything.  Good quote, that describes the gossips. Thank you for today's goodies.

LLOYD  good morning.

JANE  have a good day at WM.

AMY  since my  daughter started making relish my SIL will not eat any other kind. I don't see many butterflies at all here. One son has a couple of butterfly bushes and they really draw them in but like you I don't know the last time I saw a monarch.

PHYLLIS  the good old days we remember were filled with things we had to do the hard way. None of the modern conveniences then.

Gloria, I too woke up to that news of killings in France....I then heard of 54 deaths, that total has now risen to 84....Why so much unrest in this world?..... :(
.......................................
Took in my earlier than anticipated delivery from " David Nieper, " ( pricey but British made clothing company, ) I am starting to buy lots of jersey-wear, and now have almost gotten rid of my linen skirts and trousers, just hanging onto 2 or 3 linen summer dresses for when I lose this extra weight, I may or may not, start wearing.....I now rarely ever see the Iron in use, think I have only Ironed 2 or 3 times since I moved here...I just now wash and wear, whether it be cotton blouses or cotton cardi's, the creases soon come out once you put the Items on anyway....
I feel more comfortable now wearing jersey skirts, ( they must have elasticated waist bands, ) white cotton blouses or cotton cardi's....Then come winter its back to my cashmere cardi's and jumpers....Yes cashmere, I know I have expensive tastes... ;)  :2funny:

Hi everyone.  It will be another very hot day today.  Yesterday it registered 106 on our patio and the sensor for the Weather Station is in the shade but late in the afternoon we had a 5 minute shower and it cooled things down.  Today is the day for the housekeeper to come.  I think Pat and I will go out for a hearty lunch and then we can keep our kitchen nice and clean today, not that we keep it dirty.  That will give Pat a break from preparing a meal.  She is feeling better, although not completely recovered from the pain in her leg.  Yesterday she went by herself to Aldi's and to the GNC store yesterday morning.  It has been quite a few days since she felt up to driving.  We will spend the rest of the day taking things easy as it has been a busy week, at least for me.

Joan, it is sad that the Meals on Wheels have come down to such poor quality and are unappetizing.  Meals are often the highlight of an older person day.  I have been told a lot of people getting the Meals on Wheel just look forward to someone stopping in and talking with them a few minutes.

Shirley, it sounds like that dentist didn't graduate at the top of his class if he couldn't tell the difference between and adult and a child's mouth or that the child wasn't old enough to have wisdom teeth.

Don, I expect the Meals on Wheels have to meet certain nutritional requirements to get the Federal aid for the food.  However, we also eat with our eyes in terms of how the food looks and something without color on your plate isn't very appetizing, particularly if you have little appetite.

Joy, your husband was wise to setting his pension so that a raise would be included each year.  As a Federal retiree any increase annually we see is based on a cost of living index and it now has been two or three years since there has been any increase.  Of course, that is the same for Social Security as the same increase also applies to those payments.

Hal, I remember my Grandmother and Mother cutting the kernels off of the fresh sweet corn after it was cooked and it tasted just as good as when it was on the cob.

Gloria, the tomatoes are good but not very big.  If we grow a couple of plants next year I will get a different variety.

Good Morning Everyone!

Boy you folks are busy beavers.  Me, doing a whole lot of nothing.  Drinking some coffee and watching the British Open and their rainy day.  Old Phil is doing really well.

Larry, yep can remember the ladies doing that, cutting the corn off the cob, and then scraping it with the back of the knife to get the milk.  And it was good.  Summer time was always good eating.  Lots of veggies fresh out of the  garden.
Sometimes they would sit the table under the China Berry tree and we would eat out there.

Haven't seen many Monarchs here this year.  Amy milkweed is one of their favorites.

Everyone have a great day.

My early memories of something smelling nice was when I was young, our then single elderly next door neighbour grew fresh mint....Some used to grow and come through the underneath of our wooden fence...I remember Mrs Nobbs or Knobbs, not sure of the spelling, ( that was her name ) I always considered her as " posh, " told me when she once caught me on the stone ground sniffing it, that we could help ourselves to what grew our side...Even to this day when I smell fresh mint, it takes me right back to those childhood days...I remember my mom or gran making mint sauce and jarring it...

Janie--Nice the family gets to meet and stay until Sunday.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I give up on "cooler".  Truthfully, since I've lived here I don't remember it being this hot and no rain for so many consecutive days.

Gloria--Good morning.  Enjoy those waffles.

Good morning, Larry.  As you can see from above it's a HOT day here, too. Glad Pat is feeling well enough to get out.  I had a friend in Arkansas who delivered Meals on Wheels.  She said what you did about that being the highlight of some people's day.  At that time people got two meals--one a hot meal and one a "bag lunch'.

halkel--Good morning.  On these hot days it's wise to stay inside and watch TV or read.

Vanilla-Jackie--I like your memories of "mint".:)

Larry,  one of the ladies here where I live was so excited the other day.  A bunch of us were sitting outside and this lady came out announcing that she had just heard some great news.

Seniors were going to get a raise in their SS for next year.  Since we haven't had any increases for a couple years,  she thought it important to let us know we would be getting a 2 % raise for every thousand we receive.   BIG DEAL.  About $2.00.  She gave us all a big laugh. We all decided we would go on a cruise with our increase.  LOL

QuoteEven to this day when I smell fresh mint, it takes me right back to those childhood days...

Jackie, come to my house.  You can sit on my front steps and pick and smell all the mint you want.  I planted one plant many years ago and now it fills a big space to overflowing.  Grows like a weed but I love to smell it, chew on it, and use fresh leaves with strawberries and other fruits.  Settles an uneasy stomach, too.

Joy, I think your friend has some misinformation.  The Soc. Security adjustments for next year (2017) won't even be announced until in October.  And, so far, they are not expecting very much of a raise, if any, (again!) since inflation has remained fairly flat for this year. We'll just have to wait until Oct. to see what happens.  2% would be lovely....that is $20.00 per thousand, not $2.00.  We should be so lucky!

Thanks, Phyllis,, for this new information.   She had heard that news on the radio, but I don't know what show it would have been.

Hopefully, you might be right about the $20 increase.  But, when we get a raise,  Medicare usually  will go up and that takes care of the raise.

Because there are so many of them, three days worth, I skipped the posts.  I had the packing removed and there was one ouch, but everything was OK.  I'm being very careful of blowing my nose and I haven't had to do that often.  The reason for my nose bleeds is that I take a blood thinner - Eliquis.  Everyone tells me it is the safest of the blood thinners, so I am not complaining.  I have a couple of huge spots on one arm where they were unsuccessful in getting blood and the second one is where they put in IV.  I lost a lot of blood.  Poor Tom has lost a lot of work because of me, but fortunately he works here so it isn't as bad as it sounds.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and messages.  I'm only posting here and in Norm's B&T so some of you will get my messages twice.

Because I'm still working a paying into SS, I did get an increase this year.  However, they sent me a letter telling me about the increase and then the next paragraph stated that since my own was increased, they were decreasing my survivor benefits from my husband.  The end result was that I got 57 cents less than I had been receiving.  As my kids used to say..."Big Whoopee Ding Dong Do".

Good afternoon, very hot cloudy day. I just have to tell you my grandson just called, and he was able to take 4 steps to day.  Thanks for all your prays.

Joan, they keep saying we may have rain, but nothing.  Yesterday we were even getting storm warnings over the TV, there was wind and rain in NYC, but not even a drop made it out here.

Gloria, it was 80, at 7AM to day. WE had a wonderful cook at the senior center, she just retired a few months ago after 25 years there.  In fact, when that plane went down off of here 20 years ago, she volenteered to cook for the all the workers, as they brought the parts of the plane here, to Riverhead as Grummans had big hangers, so they could rebuild it.  Later they took it down and again, and I think it is still in Washington. It had only been it the air 12 min. After it left kennedy Airport, on its way to FRAnce.  People here still believe it was blown up.

Phyllis, I wish we had a French Bakery here.  We do have a Polish Bakery.  When I was a kid growing up in Patchouge, my mother always went to the French Bakery on Main St.

I have not heard a Whippoorwill in years, or seen Quail, which use to walk across the yard, when we moved here.  Last year I saw one Monarch butterfly on my bush.

Mary Ann--Thanks for checking in and letting us know how you're doing.  Hopefully there won't be any more of those awful nosebleeds.

Linedancer--Wonderful that your grandson called and he could take four steps.  I continue to pray for him.  I heard thunder this afternoon, but not one drop of rain.

New rules came into force April this year for claiming State Pension in UK.....People now need to work a little longer, with paying in extra stamps, therefore becoming older before they can retire, but...those who qualify after this date come straight in on a fixed sum of around £37 ( $43 ) more weekly, yet we on the lower amount stay on it, our pay does not come in line with this new fixed sum pay......but will rise as usual by a tiny annual pittance...still will take some years before it comes in line with those now coming into it from this April...

It used to be women retired at age 60, men at age 65, now some women like for my daughter will have to carry on working till they are 67 or 68....As for myself, I only missed out by one year during this new changeover, my State Pension started at age 61...It all depends on when you were born, as to how many years after, you will be getting yours...There is now a calculator telling everyone when they will start receiving there's....Link....

Good Morning from a sunny Interior!

Phyllis, my mother also planted mint as borders in front, and it grew everywhere, but had such a refreshing scent in the late evening. She had several flower beds going along with the next lot, we owned, garden plotted.

I received news about my Medicare taking a sum out of my SS, but no mention of any increase here.

All is well here, and the cat is snoozing, and I'm looking at my dirty laundering.

Seems to be a lot of mixed information about Social Security and Medicare premiums.  Like Joan says I'll just wait and see what goes into my bank account.  If we get an increase I'll be happy to take it but I agree with Joy, they will probably just increase the cost of medicare.  I'm really not a Pollyanna but I will honestly be grateful for whatever they give me.  It would be hard get along on just my husband's survivors pension but I guess we could manage with a little dash of old-time thriftiness and belt-tightening (such as no more French pastries....ouch!) thrown in.

Mary Ann, it is so good to see you back here.  What a scary time for you but, thank goodness, Tom is with you to help all he can.  Do you think your doctor might want to reduce your blood thinner?  Losing all that blood can't be a good thing for you.

Gloria de, such good news about your Grandson.  He is improving.  Much too slowly for his taste, I'm sure, but when you think that it wasn't too long ago that you weren't sure he would survive it sounds wonderful to me.  Prayers for him still coming.

Angel, you don't seem too eager to do the laundry.   ;D  And I'm in no hurry to make granola even though we are all out.  As Scarlet said, "I'll think about that tomorrow."   ;)

Phyllis, THEY don't GIVE us anything.  We worked hard all our lives for Social Security and I resent the fact that THEY say they GIVE it to us.  It's our own money paid in by the sweat of our brows and nobody needs to give it to us.  WE EARNED IT!

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks for the link.  I'm not sure how your state pension and our Social Security compare.   I opted to retire at age 62 (instead of 65) and took a reduced SS.

angelface--Towards the end of each year I receive notification of how much Medicare will take out of my SS check.  If there is a raise in SS, they also tell me that at the same time.

Phyllis--Like you it would be hard to get along on just Ray's pension, but with SS and investments I manage.

Jane--You are right.  We earned it.

Joan, I retired at 62 also with a reduced SS amount.  I also had my company pension.  When I turned 65, I was eligible for Medicare and that amount was taken from my SS.  I don't remember if Medicare kicked in at my birth month or the end of the year but I know my net SS was reduced because of it.

I am doing fairly well now but I can't believe how easily I tire.  I don't feel so weak now and I'm not sleepy/tired but I feel wiped out.  I don't do a lot, but I hope I can do some things soon.

Mary Ann, I find that every time I have been hospitalized it takes me longer and longer to recover. Now it seems the time has come that I am just standing still in recovery. Must be age.

I went down to check the supper menu, the trout sounded good, but I was just too tired to eat, so came home to have a light supper. I had a hearty lunch, so really don't need much food. I just want to sleep, sleep, sleep.

Bis, I skipped this mornings program...my cleaning lady came back for the deep cleaning and I went to the lobby to read and completely forgot about the program of Choristers. I'm hoping to go down later to watch a documentary.....would rather jus go to bed, but feel I should get out among people.

Well weather guessers were right about it getting into the 90's but the storm did not get here, hit the central part of the state. All the local channels said we would get it. Sun was shining all day. Went down for my mail and was going to go outside this morning. Opened the door and went out on the porch. Turned around and came back inside.

LARRY  the few meals on wheels I saw looked like it was ready for the garbage. As well as not looking good they had an odd smell.  I don't know how anyone can eat them. I don't mind if tomatoes are small, they still taste good.

HAL back in SN there was a man who posted in photos and he had a milkweed patch to attract the Monarchs.

JACKIE  I love that fresh mint. We had some that really took over one side of the yard.

JOY  gosh I will have to plan on what I can do with that huge raise in SS next year. One thing, my rent will go up.

PHYLLIS  I tried growing mint in a flower pot several times but it would never take. The crushed leaves make a good tea for an  upset stomach. If we got that big a raise my rent will really go up.

MARY ANN  glad the packing is out. Now if you didn't have to blow you nose you would be all set.

JANE  .57¢ is an insult. Might as well retire now.

GLORIA de  we had sun all day so it was really hot and very humid. Wonderful your grandson took a few steps today.

PHYLLIS  last time we got a raise my rent only went up $4.00 so could not complain, still had a few dollars more in the bank.

JANE  like you I get angry when the government says they give us anything. We worked and like you many still work. When I hear the word entitlement about our SS it is money we earned that we are getting back.

I am worn out tonight so will close early and if there is noting on TV to interest me I will go to bed early. Have a good night everyone.

Those of us who are getting old and have collected SS A lot of us since the age of 62 have made out well and we are still getting it. Some of us now collecting on what husbands if married ten years no longer alive we collect that.
Even at 62 I made a chart of what I had paid into it and I worked 40 year. It came out that I paid in less than what I collected in the first 4 years.  People in the future will not do as good as we are doing.
However the US SS would not do what my UK one did.  I never thought to put in for mine that I had paid in The UK because It was very little . Believe we paid a shilling in a pound earned and I earned very little.
When someone asked me if I had let the UK know that I had retired  I decided I would fill in a form I was 70 years old then and could have claimed from the age of 60. They back  paid me for the 10 years prior in one cheque. Few thousand pounds surprised me.
That is not done here. So I don't complain if no COL. every years. I do laugh at my UK one as it is so small due to my pension been small.  All in All it is a great system and hope that the people working now will still be able to draw it.  Now the Medicare. it need a good looking at. They are getting taken advantage of and never seem to know it.

Good late evening,  I do not feel like going to bed, so I am dropping in here to let you know , I just spent 3 hours in the ER. I was there against my will.

This eveing I decieded to turn the water on again to cool things off.  When I went out I hit the metal bird stand, it fell and hit my leg, taking a large portion of my skin off, being I take Plavix, it bled all over the place I finally wraped a towel around my leg.  I started to make some calls, as I needed some first aid stuff from the drug store to bandage my wound. My next door neighbor is in Virg. I finally called Don  a friend down the street. He and his son come over, and thought I should go to the hospital, but they would not take no for and answer, so that is why I ended in the ER.  I now have my leg with a big bandage on it and 4 stitches.

Guess I will go to bed and read.  I wish I was tired, but I am not tired.

Gloria de, I am happy this gentleman and son took you to the E.R. The cut you had deserved more than just a bandage, as you found out. I am just thankful you have friends that are willing to step in and help you in emergencies.

I ended up staying at home tonight. Just didn't feel like going out, so read and read and read. My eyes are really tired now.

Nothing special going on tomorrow, till evening, and we will be entertained by a male vocalist. Maybe I'll get some letter writing done.  It is needed, and my conscience is really niggling me to do what I should. I love to hear from my friends, but if I don't reply I can't expect them to keep writing.

I pray you all have a very good night and a happy tomorrow. I wish you hugs, love, and Prayers. June

Still on the subject of pensions.....If R goes before me, I shan't get a penny from neither his State Pension nor his Companies private Pension Scheme, because we aren't married......Makes no difference that we are supposedly a couple and been living together for a good 13 -14 plus years, its about time they changed this law, they have talked about it...... that common law wives get something from it........Anyway It was my choice to never marry him, so I know what not to expect......but in hindsight he does have a very good company pension, would be more than enough to pay bills and to live on...but I would still never marry him for the pleasure of it...

Food For Thought

Parking Tickets & the Gospel
(By Kerry S. Doyal)

Of all times to get a parking ticket! That night, while trying to help some hurting people? As the saying goes, "no good deed goes unpunished."

At least it can seem that way at times. And such inequities bother us greatly. "That's not fair!" we cry. Justice denied is grievous to us.

But wait: justice applied seems to bother us even more. When it is fair for us to face consequences, we expect (demand?) mercy, even if the judge has to be unjust to give us a break. After all, what I did wasn't that bad or as bad as them. Funny, fickle folks are we.

But enough legalese, back to my tragic tale of ticket "injustices".

Once upon a time - well, about 15 years ago - I was visiting a troubled young family, again. It was a night-time crisis call, again. I was seeking to defuse a volatile situation, offer some encouragement.

After a tiring time of ministry, I wearily walked to my car, ready to get home. I was greeted and rewarded for my efforts by a parking ticket. I had parked on the wrong side of the street.

Lucky me (providentially speaking), I violated a Round Lake Beach, IL law I did not know existed. Though ignorant of it, I was guilty. A law had been broken, a penalty assessed and a price had to be paid. Yet, it didn't seem fair. Refer back to "no good deed..."

It just so happened that the Mayor of that stickler-for-justice town was a good friend. In fact, he went to our church. Better still, the Chief of Police and I had gotten to know each other. Not exactly buddies, we were not strangers.

However, it would have been wrong to go to either of these men asking them to dismiss my ticket. That would be cheating the system. If they extended me this "favor", it would be unjust of them as well.

Arbitrary justice ain't justice, even if it seems to my good. They would be obliged to dismiss any other pitiful plaintiffs that sought a break. I broke a just law, was penalized and a price had to be paid. Stinks to be me, but pony up and shut up already.

One day, as this true tale goes, my sweet wife - the heroine of our fine story - out of her own loving pity and initiative went to City Hall and paid my ticket. I had committed the crime, she did the time - well, dropped the dime.

My standing with the law, Mayor and Chief were set right. How? Because someone paid my price. I had a new legal relationship and I still have the "paid in full" stamped-receipt from the city to prove it.  Sound familiar?

Thought of the Day

Good Saturday morning.....Our weather is due to heat up.....

Got woken up around 2-3 am, R was up and about letting our Benji out to do poops, then I was up usual time also to let dogs out around the 5.am mark,.... I then went out into the garden dressed in nightclothes, and cleared up Benjs mess but, instead of staying up as I would normally have done, I chanced my luck on going back to bed...it worked as I then woke up around 8am...

Don't know what if anything is on today's agenda, not too sure my MS is feeling quite up to going out and about...R is now out with the dogs, I have freshened myself up but its now almost noon, and its going to get hotter....

Anyway whatever is on your today agendas, I hope you make the most of it, and look back and tell yourself, " today has been a rather good day..."

Good morning, Janie.  Enjoy this last day of your family's visit.

Amy--Good morning.  I know you enjoy having your daughter-in-love there to sew and go shopping with.  Hope she finds some good bargains at the clothing store.

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  You had quite an interrupted sleep so hope you feel rested.  I hope you have a good day.

Hi everyone.  According to the forecast we should only get to around 92 degrees this afternoon with a 50% chance of rain.  It looked like we would have rain last night but we didn't get very much.

It was so hot here yesterday that we decided not to go out to lunch as planned so spent the entire day at home.  Today may be the same but we will just have to see what transpires.

Update on my broken window--the lady at the lumber company called me yesterday and admitted she had made an error in ordering and had ordered two of the size for the other person and now was reordering my window unit.  I thought that was nice of her to call me as she could just have ordered the new window for me and said nothing.  I asked if the other person could use the window I have that doesn't fit but she told me just to discard it, which I will do next week.

Joy and Joan, the possible increase is a big laugh indeed when we read about how much of an increase we will see in our health insurance premiums.  As Phyllis explained any raise in Social Security won't be known for awhile and if any it will be extremely small.

deAngel, all walks begin with one step so good news about the four steps your grandson was able to take.

Phyllis, "nor more French pastries" sounds pretty drastic to me.  :)

Gloria, we are enjoying our small tomatoes.  This morning I counted and there are now 12 tomatoes on the vine in various stages of ripening with several more blossoms higher up.

Patricia, interesting they told you what a reduction you would have before you even begin to get the Social Security.

Good morning from a sleepy head. Going to be another sticky day here.

GLORIA de  glad you neighbor insisted you go to the ER. Hope your leg is not painful and it heals fast.

JOAN  if I had a good appetite I would learn to make a crockpot breakfast. Chuckles that will never happen. Look forward to tomorrow's. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  crows can sure make bread disappear fast.

Good morning, weather is just a repeat of yesterday.  The weatherman always saying, possible rain, but never see it.

Gloria  looking across the Sound, it looks like you have the same weather.

I am setting here with my leg up, hurts a little.  Look like I have a bigger cut then it is, the leg is bandage from ankle to almost knee. I finally went to sleep about two. They told me if it starts bleeding again to come back to the ER. All I can say now is: God Bless my good neighbors.

Good Morning from another rainy day, all the sunshine has fled before those ominous gray clouds! I knew it was happening when I woke up stiff and sore in my back and in my hips this morning.

Gloria de. I'm sorry you were clipped by the bird feeder and certainly hope you are better soon! It sounds like something I would do, and you never know from one moment to the next, do you?

Larry, I received my social security in 2014. I will be 65 at the end of this month, so my Medicaid paperwork has been prepared and filed for July. I have no idea what will happen to my SS other than the decrease from Medicaid.

Farrah is still skittish this morning. She either sees ghosts or knows something I don't because I never know when these periods will occur.

I hope those that are ailing feel better and those who aren't, stay that way! Everyone have a good day, and I need to get ready for friends and going out to brunch. And yes, Phyllis, that laundry bag is still collecting dust.

Linda and Ed are here from Fairhope for the weekend.  They came to get stuff they had stored in my garage when they moved, to attend a wedding and to buy a new car.  I'll check in when I can, but mostly will be scarce. I am going to try to catch a little nap while they are out.

Good Morning to all,

Bis, I hope you have a good visit with your daughter and her husband. Even though they will be busy packing stuff, I hope there will be sharing time too. How far away from you are they moving ? I hope not too far. I understand the need for less living space now that the children are grown. Do rest also my dear.

Junee,  :hello:  back attcha' girl friend !

Amy, I woke at six, took my thyroid pill and back to bed. woke at seven, rang my bell so they know I am O.K., then back to bed and more dozing. Decided I would like to just spend the day in bed, pulled the sheet over my head, and dozed some more. Finally at nine o'clock, I decided that was enough so got in the shower..shampooed, washed, slathered on the lotion, and dressed. Now I am here. Sure wish I could get rid of this shortness of breath, or at least find out what is causing it. Dr.s say it is from my b.p. medications….but why ??

Larry, even a small tomato that is home grown is extra tasty. I know. The last time I did container grown, they were small but I enjoyed the crop.

Gloria, we are to have a high of 82. I love living nearer the Ocean…still quite a ways inland, but not desert like Hemet was. They are having low 100's already.

Gloria de, did the hospital give you instructions on changing the bandage or will your doctor take care of that. A cut that size needs medical attention, not just home style care, as we heal so slowly when we are older.

Patricia, Farrah may hear certain sounds like she heard from the past life and that may put her on the alert. Was the shelter aware of the life she led before they got her ?

June, vets and some experts have long since concluded that indoor cats may get an excess build up of the prey instinct which is high in cats, and this is a way to release it.

What Pet Pride knew is this. She was found out in the brush, three miles from the nearest road. She was taken to Animal Control which is a 48 hour only shelter before the animal is killed, if there is a collar, tags or embedded device, then they will hold the animal for 96 hours and then kill it.

They do inform rescue agencies and Pet Pride of the animal intakes. Pet Pride took the cat after some people in Anchorage, who had microchipped Farrah were called and told Animal Control that they had sold the cat long ago and were not interested in having her back.

There is no way of knowing how she ended up across the mountain ranges, 400 miles north and out in the bush. Someone brought her here and either they or someone else took her out and dumped her. Cats are notorious for having no sense of direction so she may have wandered quite a bit.

The original microchip listed her birthdate of September 2012, so she is four years old or thereabouts. Her given name was Lucy which I changed to Farrah. Pet Pride gave her a new microchip and a foster family. As I understand it, the foster family had both dogs and cats and a three-year-old who kept bugging Farrah, so they put her in the bathroom for four months. When she came to me, she was scared of everything, withdrawn and wanted only a deep, dark, place to hide. We are only just beginning our journey.

I am supposed to ready at eleven for brunch out, and it is 10:18 now so I better get started!

Good Saturday HELLO to my EVERYFRIEND.

I am not sure when I posted last, but no matter what I am behind.

It has been eventful around here....I could not get in here on my iPad.  My computer is not working and Bob's laptop is now kaput!

Vail/Chicago son and boys were here Wednesday afternoon.  We met the Dr. Dave Family at the pool for dinner and the cousins were able to play together. Went back to Dave's and the kiddos had S'mores on the fire pit....then it was time for goodbye's.  We came home and got the boys to bed...chatted a bit and helped Kurt get things lined up for a very early escape for their LONG drive home.  They left at 4AM and arrived in Chicago at 9 PM, all local Denver's DMT.  With the two big dogs it is not easy to spend the night in a motel, so he just chose to get the drive done.  I was a basket case all day long, but litterly collapsed when he called to say they were there safely.  He did keep us updated on the drive as he went along.

We have been watching the British Open and feeling so happy about my guy, Lefty.  He is doing very well.  Looking forward to watching tomorrow!

GLORIA de, sorry to read about your boo boo....so glad your neighbor took you to the ER, so you could be taken care of.

JOAN, happy to read your family is there to see you and getting their belongings out of your garage.  How are they liking Fairhope?

JANIE, enjoy the last few hours of time with your visiting family.

MARYANN, good to read that you are doing Bette.  So glad Tom is there to help you out.

Good night, JACKIE.  Rest well.

I had a little nap and since then Linda and Ed have been in and out twice.

June--Linda and Ed moved to Fairhope, Alabama--the same town where Joe, Kate and Finlay live.  I won't see much of them since it's a 10 hour drive.

Jenny--They really like Fairhope, but have had many costly repairs to make since moving in.  For example--the ceiling in the walk in pantry fell in.  And that's just one incident.  They are going after the sellers for "failure to disclose".

It is now 3:40 and we are in the midst of a lightning and thunder event and now we are getting a nice shower.  We just had a momentary lose of power but didn't shut down the computer.

Patricia, I don't think anything else would happen to your Social Security other than the deduction for Medicare.  I hope your aches and pains lessen  as the day goes on.
Farrah certainly had a rough life before you got her.  No wonder she was so frightened.

Jenny, that is a long drive for Kurt and family.  Nice he could keep you updated on their drive.  Glad to see you once again can post.
Joan, hope you can spend maximum time with Linda and Ed.  You didn't mention Findley.  Is he visiting also.  It sounds like you will have increased space in your garage, which I know we all can use.

June, glad you are enjoying the cooler weather than you had in Hemet.  We are also a bit cooler here today.

We got a lot done at Cathy's new house today.  She changed her mind 3 times about curtain rods for the bedrooms and we made two trips to WM to exchange them.  I brought half of the curtains home to shorten tomorrow and when I take them back, I'll bring the rest of them home to shorten.  Each window has one curtain so they don't feel like they're living in a fishbowl and I only have half of them so I don't feel overwhelmed.  Actually, shortening is a pretty easy job.

Now I'm home for the evening.  Cindy is going to be visiting with some of her high school friends and Courtney is hanging out with one of her cousins on the other side and one of her cousins and an uncle and aunt on this side.  I don't know when they'll be back but they both have a key so I'm not going to worry about it.

Going to go feed the doggies and myself now and then watch a bit of TV (probably through my eyelids).  I missed my nap today!

Larry--Finlay belongs to Kate and Joe and they will be visiting in two or three weeks.  Linda and Ed have Grant and Audrey--grown and out on their own.

Janie--Nice of you to help at Cathy's new house and to bring curtains home to shorten.   With no nap I'll bet you will sleep well tonight.

JOAN, so happy to read that your Finley will be visiting in a couple of weeks.  Sorry to read about the problems that Linda and Ed have encountered....yikes, having a ceiling fall!  Do they live anywhere near to where Joe's home is?  That area will always be special to us, having a family reunion there and it being the last time we all saw Bob's Dad.  My boys tell stories about being there quite often.  It was a nice experience.

JANE, how nice that you can help with the shortening of the curtains.

LARRY, I fuss at Kurt for the straight through drives, but Bob and I used to do the same thing every year when we went to Florida to visit his family.  Limited vacation time was our reason.

I just returned from my brunch out with friends, not something I can afford to do a lot of but it was interesting and nice to get together with friends.

This place is one of the restaurants in a local hotel. It's the type where waiters carry napkins over their arms and you need a reservation. The Sunday brunch is locally famous and you almost need to donate blood to get in.

But today was nice. A server carved prime rib, other meats, vegetables, rolls, several salads, garnishes and what not. But I had a craving for fruit and there was a small table devoted to that alone. Grapes, apples, cherries, oranges, peaches, papaya and pears to only name a few. I loaded up and almost expected the server to ask if I needed a bag with that? Ruth, one of my friends was astonished that I didn't want prime rib.

And yes I came home with a small selection of whole fruit. At the price of the brunch, I didn't feel the least guilty and I had ice water rather than wine so felt quite virtuous actually.

Bis, it is nice your family wants to be near one another. Our Grandson Ryan and his family are the only ones not in the state of Ca. but I am happy for them being in a small resort town in Idaho. My other Grandson and is wife life moved to an area near Hemet, and they are all content with where they live. Dori of course misses the little ones in Idaho, but she plans to see them at least twice a year.

Larry, I miss the summer showers in Mn. where I grew up, it always left thing so nice and fresh and everything such a deep green color. And the coolness is always welcome, I know.

Kinda slow in here tonight, isn't it?  Everyone must be wilted!  I'm waiting for Cindy to come home from her visit with friends.  Her BESTEST friend called everyone she could reach and invited them to her house so Cindy could see everyone at the same time.  I thought that was very nice of her.

As soon as she comes back and we have a chance for some last hugs and conversation, I'll be off to bed so I'll say...

Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one.

And I will turn out the light again~  Been a long HOT week with too much going on to even talk about.  I am ready to cave in but hopefully will bounce back after some sleep.  I have a cough that won't stop, nothing like it since I was a kid & had bronchitis.  The need to "clear the throat" goes into deep, rattling cough that goes on until I am gagging.... not a pretty sight.  This goes on 24/7 & my whole body is sore from the constant hacking.  No clue what started it.  Monday I will try to visit the Dr... Hope I'm not contagious, I thought it was allergy related so been out & about.  Maybe I need to change my name to Typhoid Mary.  Enough, coughing out of control.  Good night to all, sweet dreams and God Bless.
