Patricia - That's a cute video, of the cat protecting the baby. The baby was totally oblivious to the whole thing! :)  Did you watch the next story/photos, called 'Henry' the stray cat who lives in my parents shed.  It's a sweet story of an abandoned cat.  Fortunately, one family in the neighborhood gave him shelter, food, and vet care, and he eventually became their cat.  A sad story that ends happily.

I just watched the next one you posted about the kitten entering foster care.  Thank heaven there are decent people in this world, who step in and do the right thing.

angelface555

Marilyne if only all the sad stories ended so happily!

Out of a family of five humans, 2 cats and one dog, Sweetie Pie has settled in, gets along with everyone but definitely has chosen "Her Human!"

Good for Sweetie Pie; she deserves a good family.

I hope John gets another batch soon.

Not bad for a cat that was so feral just a little over a month ago that she would hide or attack if cornered. FDJ posted the other two cats are older and the dog had grown up with the cats.

He is putting in new floors in some rooms including the kitten foster room. He generally has a two-week interval between litters to clean up the room and wash and bleach all the surfaces anyway but he does run videos of past litters in the meantime.

FDJ and his ladyfriend are making the most of their time off. They've been posting beautiful photos of parks and historic villages throughout western Washington.

From the Critter Room and Sweetie Pie's new family;  "Sweetie Pie, now known as Tinker Bell, is getting brave and starting to explore. She's met the fellow kitties and Rey, a lab/retriever mix. Tinker Bell is not quite pleased about him yet but Rey thinks they're bestest friends and brings her socks & things."

Ace, an ex member of FDR's crew died recently from Tylendol toxicty. No details given but the owner is very upset and posted this reminder of ten common toxins.

From FDJ;

"If you have cats, be extremely careful about any Tylenol or Tylenol-like product such as NyQuil that contains Acetaminophen or Paracetamol/Panadol. It is extremely toxic to cats and can be fatal if ingested.

A good friend of mine took NyQuil and her cat Ace, my Trillian's litter mate, licked the empty but not rinsed out yet cup. Even under the care of specialists at an emergency vet, he couldn't be saved.

This is an unfortunate accident, not myself or anyone I know would have thought that licking a NyQuil cup can be fatal to a cat. There is no fault to be had here but there can be education to make people aware. Please share."

Mary Ann

Patricia, thanks for the warning.  I don't use those products but one never knows when/if they might be suggested.  Because I don't like the cat in my bathroom, he should be safe, but you never know.  Kendrick is a nosy cat!

Mary Ann

angelface555

You're welcome, MaryAnn.

Ever wonder about the five male kittens who had suffered such severe URIs? So much so that they were in danger of actually losing their physical eyeballs along with their sight?

Zero, the one gray kitten whose best was being able to see light and shadows, to distinguish between the two, with the least sight, was adopted along with his tuxedo brother, Felix, who had one good eye and one blind eye. It turns out that Zero is a bold leader and his brother follows his lead and cries if he can't find him. Zero also loves to climb, he doesn't know he's handicapped.

His owner had this to say about him recently;  "10 Things About Zero
(Still working on the other floof's lists.)

Watching him run from behind is the best thing EVER! He runs like a bunny and his back legs tend to go to the side a bit when he's running. Which is pretty much all the time. He doesn't walk much.

He will eat just about anything. He stole a sour patch kid and licked all the sour powder off before I could catch him.

He will go entire weeks of running away from me because he's so upset about me giving him medicine. He will hide under the bed and I have to work really hard to trick him into coming out for the meds. Then when I am feeling like a monster and like he's going to hate me forever, he decides to cuddle. Then he spends several days being super sweet.

He is the best bedtime cuddle buddy. He comes up to cuddle me when I'm falling asleep, then comes back up around 3am and wakes me up. Then around 5:30am he wakes up Jake to climb under the blanket for teddy bear cuddles. Most nights, not every time.

When cuddling with me under the blanket he lays sideways so his arms and head hang off the side of the bed, but tucked in with the blanket up to his neck. His back legs and tail right up against me and hogging the bed. With Jake, he cuddles like normal with his paws wrapped around Jakes arm. Makes no sense.

He loves to curl up and nap on grey things. The grey couch, my grey jacket, Jakes grey sweater, my grey bag. He blends quite nicely and gets grumpy when we try to steal the jackets back.

He and Hailey are super sensitive when I am upset. Whenever something is wrong they want to be right there in their own different ways. He gets really clingy, even when he gets the zoomies. Each time across the house he checks on me. He's started stretching up to touch his nose to mine for a second and then rubs his face along my jaw. He's pretty aggressive sometimes so it's like I'm getting beat up, but he means well. It really stinks because my jaw has a metal plate and a metal bar right under the skin so it hurts a lot on my side. He doesn't seem to notice, though. It's nice when he is more gentle though, so sweet!

His favorite blankets are fuzzy. He doesn't like comforters much.

His depth perception is weird sometimes. I got a huge floppy pink hat for gardening and when he walked up to smell it he hit the hat with his nose before he was ready for it. I swear I didn't move! He is now not a fan of the hat.

He is also afraid of the printer. Mom got us a new printer and it's been a lifesaver! But I pushed him back from it while I had several things printing and he didn't stop. So fine. When the sheet was done it hit him in the nose and he ran away. Now he stares at it funny and gives it some room while walking across my office."

Felix and Zero live with a couple and their two older female tabbies, Nala and Hailey. Here is a Felix update from yesterday,  "Tonight we learned that Felix does not approve of me coming home smelling like dogs and goats. He flailed claws out and hissy spitting when I tried to give him his nighttime meds. Clawed my forehead, shoulder, and leg pretty good. And now he won't come out from under the bed. Even for the evil red dot, food, or freeze-dried chicken.

Well Darn!  And ow.

He'll get used to the smell because it will be happening more often, but damn. I feel like I'm in time out. No purrs and cuddles is an effective punishment. None of the other kitties give a damn. In case you were wondering.

"***Update*** 9:30am
It took him an hour to come out from under the bed. Then he kept peeking around things at me but growling. Then progressed to laying on the bed but running away if I reached for him. By that point, I had to get to sleep. This morning at 8 he was completely fine when I picked him up and set him on my chest for cuddles. Purrs, kisses, everything back to normal.
But damn, there are bruises around some of those claw marks.

Mary Ann

It's fun reading about other cats because their antics usually are so different from Kendrick's.  He usually comes in to visit me twice a night - the middle of the night and about 8 am.  He does not cuddle; he's not a cuddly cat.  His smeller works perfectly as he can tell when I'm opening a catnip jar.  From wherever he is, he's at my side immediately.

Thanks for the cat stories, Patricia.  I like to hear how they are doing.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Thanks so much, MaryAnn, I too enjoy hearing about them after they've left the Critter Room and FDJ.

Farrah is always in whatever room I'm in except when she takes her long afternoon nap in the bedroom on top of her three drawered chest. She isn't a cuddler either as her way of being affectionate is to come up and sprawl on the couch with you but not next to you. She does love good, long back and stomach scratches and when she wants attention, she will sit close by and intently stare at you.

She has started playing occasionally with one of her toys but I have the feeling that's out of boredom, she'd really do better with another cat to keep her attention.

Mary Ann

When Kendrick wants attention. which seems to be often, he comes up to me and rubs my shins.  I wouldn't mind if I were wearing shorts (bare legs) but it plays hob on my navy and black slacks.  My burgundy slacks don't seem to attract much cat hair.  I often will go in the living area where he spends most of his time and sit on the couch just to keep him company.  He may rub my shins, but is most likely to lie on the floor.  I try to get him on the couch so I can rub his back and/or stomach, but he seems happy to be in the same room as I am in.  He also sniffs the drawers where there is catnip so sometimes I will give him a couple teaspoonfuls in his bed.  The bed must be clean before I'll give him more, several hours later.  I read where I can give him 2-3 teaspoons 2-3 times a day.  He does not seem overactive after eating it. Kendrick is a good boy!

Mary Ann

angelface555

I wish Farrah was that way. Her earlier abuse has left its mark and she's still very defensive and alert to any perceived trouble. I don't believe that will change.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, often after viewing a video, a screen with several pictures on it will appear and many of them are of abandoned and/or abused animals.  These all seem to have happy endings, where someone rescues them, cleans the animal, rehabs the animal and they end up in a "furever" home.  I can only watch so many, usually no more than three.

Some of you may remember a litter of FDJ's from last fall, the Olympians. Sequins, the only female kitten, who had developed FIP or Feline Infectious Peritonitis, wasn't spayed and was adopted out with the cravat that she would suddenly take a turn and die as the disease in older kittens and cats is normally thought of as a death sentence. Then we get this news...."*** State of Sequins Address ***

Sequins took a trip up to Purrfect Pals last week where she got a thorough examination, including a retest of both FIV and FIP.

Drumroll, please ... FIP test came back negative. She no longer has fluid in her lungs and is awaiting a spay appointment. She does have some unexplained fluid in her abdomen that will be tested at that time.

TL;DR - Sequins doesn't have FIP."

Tom H in Indy recently had to put his cat down and he said she was about 17.  I do know his mother died 16 years ago and Tom had the cat a year or two before she died.

Kendrick is the equivalent of 40 years or will be in July.  So he is a mature adult now.

Farrah will be seven years old in September,(44 in cat years); and she's been with me since 2016, It doesn't seem that long. She looks just like the cat in the article's accompanying picture.

Patricia, the cat in the video looks so much like Kendrick.  I think it's a bit younger, but very similar coloring and stripes.

I am not sure Kendrick would be so thoughtful, however, he has not been near a dog since he came here.
