Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend  There's a bacon breakfast quiche to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “July--Ice Cream Month” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles
Moral Lesson

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, and Ryan, 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.

"If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, "Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait."

Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, "Ryan, you be Jesus."

Food For Thought

Fighting for Focus in the Frenzy
(By Kerry S. Doyal)

Want to know a "sure fire" method of inflicting guilt on Christians? Ask about their prayer life. Or, discuss witnessing, parenting or marriage. These, and a few select topics, are almost always sure to pile their plates with a full heapin' of guilt - deserved or not.

Ahh, but prayer. who couldn't and shouldn't be praying more? Prayer is a spiritual discipline that is more of a source of regret than retreat and refreshment for too many of us. Yet, it is needed to keep life in perspective.

Crazy thing is, we often try to beef up our prayer lives. Yet - take a deep breath here - our frenetic and frenzied lives fight against fellowship with the Father which facilitates focused living. (Go ahead, re-read it, I'll wait.)

Stated in the key of "P": If we are not purposeful to provide peaceful pockets of time for prayer and pondering, we will not possess it. Period.

Life's hectic pace blurs focused living. Time in prayer with the Father is a key means to fight back. And, since "The Good" easily replaces "The Best", we must keep our lives before the Lord in prayer to keep clear His marching orders for us. This is a truth we see in Jesus' life.

Observe how Mark 1:35-39 shows how Jesus kept on track by keeping in touch with the Father.

"The next morning Jesus awoke long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to pray. Later Simon and the others went out to find him. They said, "Everyone is asking for you."

But he replied, "We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too, because that is why I came." So he traveled throughout the region of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and expelling demons from many people." (New Living Translation)

In the crush of ministry and the temptation of growing popularity, Jesus maintained time with His Father in prayer. This helped Him keep His priorities, make wise decisions and serve and teach with power. And, as always, He is an example for us.

Re-read Mark's 78 wonderful and weighty words. Sound familiar?

Every parent knows what it is like to seek solitude only to be sought out themselves. Want to locate your children (or spouse, or pet)? Take a moment to read the Bible and pray. Practicing spiritual disciplines makes phones ring, dogs bark, and children and calendars call out.

Certainly, we should seek to find time for the Lord all throughout the day. However, fitting Him in around other things limits one's ability to hear, meditate, process, remember, rediscover, and enjoy Him.

To keep perspective in and on life, we need - as best as we can arrange it - uninterrupted times before the throne of grace with our Father - King. Keeping focused in your frenzy requires a couple of key elements, both seen in Mark 1:35-39.

First is sacrifice. It was early, still dark when Jesus slipped off to pray. This was after a full day of ministry that stretched into the night. While it is not sin to sleep in when needed (examine Elijah's example in 1 Kings 18, 19), the sacrifice of time with the Father is an act of worship and self-denial.

Did God make you more of a night owl than early bird? Then give Him some significant after hours time to speak to you and hear from you. Whenever and however, we must make, not just take time for God. Little sacrifice will equal little prayer.

Secondly, Jesus shows the need for sanctified time away with God, not just time away per se. This should be time to re-create, not just recreate. Reworking the axiom: "All play & 'no pray' makes one a spiritually dull boy."

Prayer is not merely meditation, time away or "getting centered". Prayer is time set apart (sanctified) to be with God, who is to be our center (Col. 3:1-3). It would not hurt us to risk being "so heavenly minded we are no earthly good." See Mark 6:30-32; Ps. 84:1-7; 73; 34:1-7; 40; 42.

About that guilt, don't be bound by it (see Rom. 5:1-2; 8:1, 2) But, if needed, by all means, repent. For further growth in seeing the need and beauty of prayer, get paper and pencil and discover some of prayer's life-giving and preserving fruits.

Thought of the Day

“If man is man, and God is God, to live without prayer is not merely an awful thing; it is an infinitely foolish thing."

- Phillips Brooks

Good Sunday morning Joan, and Everyfriends....

Guess it runs in the Hathaway family, Benji too is sure a Hathaway fighter....he is getting stronger....

These last couple of days ( thank you God, for making my leg and walking more manageable and for answering to my prayer, over our Benji,) although I know my better walking wont last....We are able to walk down our parkhome sites slope, down to the bottom, a new to me short circle walk over greenery and past high trees, where a bit of a mess where they are preparing work for the remainder of the next 20 or so parkhomes which at some time will arrive bit by bit....then instead of walking back along the pathway we went in the opposite direction through the fenced narrow grassed lane, the same lane I have often walked, leg willing....We walked to the far end then came back, followed by our usual uphill back to our home at the top. Well apart from the odd sway, Benji was eager, pulled and looked so happy be out and about, I was worried that I may have been pushing him too far but he did it with flying colours, I am so proud of him, he is one h----k of a fighter...He is eating but because of his stroke his eyes and his head seem to go in different directions so its now a spoonful or two of his food in a saucer mixed with his tablets, followed by me hand-feeding him, he laps it up, but cant manage to lick out the bowl or saucer, makes a bit of a floor mess...

Jeanne Lee, you are sure right, nothing boring about your "now " life....Well I sure hope the hospital have run all there tests on you and you are now preparing to be released....What a palava with registering of your meds with your Insurance provider....no wonder your BP went sky high....

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I have to go get ready for church and feed the doggies soon but I'm going to try to resurrect the post I lost last night.

JeanneLee, after I lost my post (part of it was for you) I prayed for your well-being.  I guess, if you hadn't had bad luck the last few days, you wouldn't have had any kind of luck at all.  I hope you are now on the road to recovery and I'll keep praying until I hear you are.

Joanie,  the dinner was delicious.  I used one of the new Campbell's Oven Sauces.  You put chicken, onions, peppers and pineapple chunks in a casserole and cover it with the cooking sauce.  Then you bake it at 400 for 40 minutes and it's delicious and the hardest part was cutting up the onion and pepper.  The easiest part was eating it!  I've put some of the leftovers in the hidey hole.  Try it!

I think Annie's new anti-itch medication is working.  Except for the time when someone was setting off firecrackers, she was not hiding under the desk at all last night.  And we all slept more peacefully.

I'll check in after church and a quick stop at the Farmer's Market to see what y'all are up to.  I love that word "y'all".  It's so easy to use!

JeanneLee, good morning. my goodness what a time you have had.Prayers for a quick recovery and you get back home soon.

Jane, your meal sounds delicious!! Quick and easy and left overs would be tasty too!!

Phyliss, yum now that is an ice cream.

Lloyd, good morning.

Jackie, good to hear Benji is feeling better.

Joan ,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Just watched a fun video clip, boy I need something to smile about, and this sure put a warm smile on my face, took me away from all that is bad happening in my life at the moment......

Oh I never told you about R receiving an email from our much younger ex next door neighbour where unknowing from me, R told him where we had moved to...the most part of moving far away was so my daughter couldn't torment me anymore, well next door neighbour said he had a visit from " Jackie's " daughter and her son, my grandson looking for me, told him her son, my grandson has a child now, ( yes I know it was born 5 months BEFORE we moved home...) so not knowing our circumstance told her where we have now moved to, no not our address but our area, wont take her long to trace me and start causing me mayhem again, if that's what she intends, or even turn up on my doorstep..So much for getting on with whats left of my life, and being happy for once....R knew how important it was for me not to let her know my whereabouts...

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  It's great that you are up to taking your beloved Benji for a walk.....creating good memories.  Maybe your daughter was wanting to make amends?  Thanks for the link.

Lloyd--Good morning.  We aren't getting any rain here--seems to be all around us.

Good morning, Janie.  Your dinner sounds delicious.  Thanks for putting some in the "hidey hole".  Next time I shop I'll have to get the ingredients.  Glad the "itchies" are better.

Amy--Good morning.  We seem to get the thunder and lightning every evening, but no rain at all.  I will say some extra prayers that all goes well with your husband's surgery tomorrow.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  I pray you are doing better this morning.  Don't rush with going home because I am sure you are being well taken care of in this hospital.  When you go home you have to be well enough to care for yourself.

I'm thinking of you, Jeanne Lee.  I hope the hospital and new meds can control your BP, etc. much better now.  Thank goodness, you got help when you most needed it and that you have a PA to help you with everything else.  Don't be in too big a hurry to leave the hosp.  They will monitor you closely and you need that right now until your health and med. responses level out.

Rain again during the night but sun is trying to shine this morning.  It is going to be very humid today, I fear.  Wish I could push a little of this moisture your way, Joan.  I know how much you need it and we have had more than enough.

Amy and Don (Radioman), I am embarrassed that I didn't wish you a happy Canada Day on Friday.  Even though I am 2 days late I will wish that for you and your country now.  It is so nice to have such a good neighbor!

   :happybday: Canada!

Happy Sunday to all.

Hi everyone on this hot and humid Sunday morning.  I am starting my day with 85 degrees and headed up to 98 or more this afternoon.  I have a simple plan for today.

I will go to Sunday School and Church this morning but Pat isn't feeling up to going as her sciatic nerve continues to give her great pain as does her shoulder.  I missed a couple of items at Aldi's yesterday so will stop on the way home to get those.  I have no idea of what lunch may involve as Pat is trying to change her diet and it makes it difficult to buy food out.

Joan, I have heard that Florida is the lightning capitol of the United States and that even on a perfectly clear day some people have been struck.  Perhaps that is where the saying "out of the clear blue" originated.

Hal, the lightening risk is probably why they are so careful to stop play on the golf course when a storm approaches.

June, we are convinced that our daughter shielded us from a lot that she was experiencing although we also knew a great deal about her situation.  For a number of years Pat didn't buy anything that had to be ironed but now she wants things made of cotton and the blouses need ironing.  She just takes it a little at a time as it gets to her back.

Amy, apparently dear do not see well.  Glad your visit to the vet went so well.

Patricia, I guess our pets associating vets with pain due to the needles is a lot like us associating dentists with pain.  However, anymore getting shots at the dentist is certainly not as painful as it used to be.

Amy, hope your husband will have a quick and complete recovery from his surgery.

Good morning everyone.  I ws here last night BUT all of a sudden I got a screen come up telling me that the update to Windows 10 was installing.  Only way I could get rid of it was shutting down manually.  I will get 10 when I want it not when it takes over. I just heard on the news that the man who was struck on Cape  Cop was not hit by the lightening but he was at the computer while it was storming and that got hit and he got a shock from that.  Looks like I am not foolish when I close the PC and TV when we have a storm.

JEANNE LEE  that kind of excitement you did not need. Hope everything is OK by now.

PHYLLIS  wow that is a big ice cream cone.  More than I could handle but it sure looks good with all those flavors.

JOAN  Food for Thought is one to send to some who never think of praying to God. I feel bad for those who never pray except when they are in trouble. Thank you for today's goodies.

JANE  that is an easy recipe ad sounds good.

AMY  I wish the best for your hubby and of course prayers go with him.

It's going to be at last another day here in the hospital while the doctor manipulates meds and dosages, with the hope that I won't need oxygen a home.... yet.  So for now it's just a case of waiting to see what happens next.  I think I have my kids convinced there's not need for panic or getting upset.  They seem to be content with having me just send frequent reports for now and seem to be approving of steps and plans I've been taking for my own safety.

So meanwhile, I'm waiting to see what happens next and I'm being a very good girl listening to what I'm being told.  Having the computer and Kindle as well as wifi helps ease things, although it takes longer to get here to S&F and accomplish anything.    Even the food isn't all that bad.   :D

Good morning. Phyllis.  I sure wish you could send some of the rain you've had down our way.  I, too, neglected wishing Amy and Don a Happy Canada Day--so here it is now folks.

Vanilla-Jackie--Sad that your daughter's way of life prevents a relationship with you.

Larry--Good morning.  I'm sorry that Pat has so much pain.  Good luck to her in changing her diet for whatever the reason.  We sure do get lots of lightning--during a storm they announce how many strikes and sometimes it's in the 100's.

Good morning, Gloria.  Windows 10 just seems to keep pestering you.  Your thanks are appreciated.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  Glad things are going OK while you are in the hospital.  Continue to be a "good girl".  I continue to pray for you.

Good morning. early for me. I have company comiing from up the Island, she said she might be here by a 11, so I have been rushing around, which is not good for me.
Ginny use to clean my house before her auto acicident, hit by a nanny on a phone.
JeanneLee, I am so sorry to read about you being in the hospital, but I have a sign over my computer, my DIL gave me that say's Micacles happen to those that believe.  I think the mircacle you had was having to go see a new doctor. Now you are being taken care of. My prays are with you. You are so helpful to other, so your cyber friends also need you.

Sandy like June said your deserve a treat once in a while.

Phyllis, talking about ice cream, my favorite.   I love your graphic., thanks.

June, I love reading about you dancing.  Cause at night I have my favorite radio station on.  When they play Mac the Knife, Proud Mary, or Leroy Brown, I get up and dance, can't help it. Of course I can't breath for the next 5 min.

Prays have helped with my GS, He  is now in Pensacola Spine rebah hospital.  Maybe he will be able to walk again.

Larry, I think your friends will like Niceville.  Dennis bought his house there, while he was still station in Germany, but he knew has going to be station at Eglan AFB for a long time, his wife was also in the AF so they were going to be station to gether.  The bridge had not been built to Ft. Walton yet, when they moved there to Blue Water Bay Section.

Hi Joan, good reading.  It is now 11, so I had better send this.

Gloria de, You have made my day bright and happy. It pleased me completely to find that you too have certain music that insists you get up and dance. Mac the knife and LeRoy Brown get me to moving too, but Pretty Woman seems to have a beat I cannot resist. And for slow dancing, "The Last Waltz", makes me feel 25 years old again..very romantic.

I had a very sound and restful sleep, woke feeling great, so the dance last evening did no harm. We are having a special service at Church today. Our Chaplain will discuss "Call 2 Fall". I have never heard of it before but he said it was a nationwide call to churches to to fall to their knees and pray. There will be few of any here "falling to their knees", but we can do it mentally if not physically.

Jeanne Lee, you are taking your stay in the hospital like the sensible lady that you are, I am proud of you my friend. I'm happy you have your electronic friends sitting by your side, it will make the time pass more quickly and can keep us connected to you. Please keep us posted on your progress. Prayers are with you.

It is going on 9 o'clock, so it is best I get my bed made and prepare myself  for going to Church at 10 o'clock. After Church I will have lunch with friends, and then home to hopefully do something constructive besides reading and sleeping. I must order my groceries for delivery..Wed. is the only free day for a three hour delivery window, and at that I will miss our Bible lessons, unless I can figure out a different time...I'll see.....Then, if God keeps my conscience niggling me, I will hopefully get some snail mail taken care of. That would be a satisfying Sunday for me.

A good Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Thank you, JOAN, for our nice new place for the week for us to gather.  I sure enjoyed all the goodies today.

JEANNE LEE, nice to see you checking in already this morning.  I am glad they are keeping you there for now as they continue to monitor your BP.  I do hope things will work out and you will not have to go home on oxygen.  If you do then you will work that out too. Take care and rest up!  I just read our JUNE's message to you and what she said is EXACTLY what I am feeling....that lady has the best way with words....just love her SO much.

JACKIE, I am just smiling like crazy as I read about how well Benji (and you) are doing.  Just so wonderful that you two were able to take that peaceful, walk together. I, too, thought just maybe your daughter and grandson were indeed there to actuall see you!  Why else would she just show up?  Of course we do not know her, so it is probably just wishful thinking on our behalf.  Hope you are having a nice evening.

AMY, for sure I will be holding good thoughts and saying prayers for your dear hubby, and YOU, tomorrow as he goes through his surgery.

Missing not seeing a post from you, MOLLY.  I do hope all is well with you and Mohamed.

GLORIA de, enjoy your visit today and continued thoughts and prayers for your grandson.  So happy to read he is in the spine center and doing better.

JANIE, that chicken dish sure does sound delicious....my only complaint with the sauces that are ready to add is they seem to be so high in salt!  I will check the hide hole and see if there is any left for me to taste!

LARRY, enjoy your day and tell Pat I am sorry that she is in so much pain.  Give a HUG from me too, please.

My Bob has a terrible tooth ache...it started late yesterday afternoon! Always seems something like this has to present just at the start of a long holiday weekend.

We have Granddoggie Lola here with us for the week.  Her family is visiting friends in the town where they moved from in Oregon.  They are all having a wonderful time.

JUNE, so happy to read your post....love that you enjoy your dancing SO MUCH.  Have a good day.

Enjoy you SUNDAY,

Jenny

Jenny, I don't have to restrict salt so I never register that when I look at values.  I did think I could look at it but when I went in the kitchen I decided that I wouldn't try to fish it out of the trash.  It's covered with coffee grounds.  You'll have to read it at the store.

Joan, I like the ice cream graphic, too, but I bet there's one person who could have done without it today.  After giving away her ice cream stash, she had to come here and see THAT!  Sorry Sandy!

I went by the Farmers' Market on my way home from church this morning and I got some good potatoes and a GREAT cantaloupe.  I've got it cut up and in the fridge so I can snack on that whenever I feel like it.  Put some in the hidey hole, too!

I not only forgot about Canada Day (sorry Amy and Don) but when my daughter called and invited me to a picnic at her house this evening, I asked her "What's the occasion?"  And this after having patriotic napkins and cupcakes at coffee hour after church.  I wonder if I'm getting senile?

June, thanks for the kind words about my activities.  I hope I can continue for some time also but It does not get any easier.  I just try to ignore the fact that I'm tired until I can flop on the sofa and collect some those extra zzzzs.

I was wondering about Molly, too!  I hope she's just busy enjoying Mohamed's visit.

Jenny--Sorry Bob has such a bad toothache.  I guess they don't have "walk in clinics" for tooth problems.  Do you have to take Lola out for walks or is your property fenced?

Janie--Like you, I don't have to watch my salt intake.  Yep--Sandy will just have to look at the ice cream cone graphic.:)  I like to have cut up watermelon and cantaloupe in the fridge for snacks.  Enjoy the picnic at your daughter's home.

Happy Independence Day!

Our church had a wonderful service this morning. The choir was decked out in black pants or skirts, white shirts, and identical ties and scarves with flag printing. Even the sermon was slanted toward the meaning of the holiday.

It's hot out (what else is new?  ;D) but there's very little humidity. Makes for a nice day.

Jackie - So happy that you and Benji had a good day!

Joan - Two days ago we had a heavy rain. I was hoping you might be having the same, but in looking at the TV weather, it was not to be!

Lightning scares me......several houses in this area have burned down because of lightning strikes. When we're playing golf we stop at the first sound of thunder. I have no desire to be holding onto a metal stick in a thunderstorm!

June - I would like to have your outlook. You have learned to live life to the fullest. It's a blessing to know you.

Larry - We are the same way..........Chape is the eternal optimist and I have always been the pessimist (I call myself realistic) ;). Over the years his way has rubbed off on me and I'm more optimistic than I used to be.

Jeanne Lee - Hope you will be able to go home soon but a few days rest in the hospital is good! Better to have your BP meds adjusted now than trying to do it at home.

Jane - That chicken dish sounds good. I'll look for the sauce mix when I go to the store.

Jenny - Sorry that Bob has a bad toothache. Is there a number you can call for dental emergencies? The dentist's office may be closed tomorrow for the 4th.

Gloria - Good to hear that your grandson is in the spinal rehab hospital. Praying for him!

Phyllis - I'll take the flavor near the bottom....black raspberry, my favorite!

Hal and Lloyd - Hope you are enjoying the day

It is great to know so many people are thinking of me and praying for me.  We have so many stoics here and I try to be like that, too.  Several of the nurses and aids have said "At least you haven't lost your sense of humor."  I just figure better to laugh at things than get grouchy and make it difficult for everyone else, too.

My doctor is very thorough and is trying making medicine combinations and adjustments so that I won't need to go home with oxygen.  If that means an extra day or even two staying in the hospital I won't complain or try pushing before she thinks I'm ready.  One of the nurses asked today if I use a walker.  I told her I haven't yet but if I do need one I know exactly what its going to be like - It will have wheels (large ones) and a seat.  See, I've been paying attention to what you gals have!  And if I do have to have oxygen I'll insist on the what I think is the kind our Joan has - fairly small and portable if necessary.  So you see, all these years when I've been mostly lurking I've really been paying attention and learning. :computer:

Again, thanks for your caring and prayers.  I dearly love you all.   :xoxo:

Joy--Thanks so much.  I just went to Photos and left you a message.

Beverly--About  an hour ago we had thunder and lightning and about 10 drops of rain--not enough to even wet the driveway or road. Now the sun is out again and it's so terribly humid.

Jeanne Lee--You're the kind of patient all the caregivers in the hospital like.  I saw  that those who were cranky were avoided when possible.  If you have to go home with oxygen, ask for liquid  oxygen.  I have two big tanks (no electricity involved) that they come and fill every week.  At first I only needed one per week, but then my needs increased.  I don't care for those concentrators that  plug in, are noisy and you're in trouble if you lose power.  Then  I have a small unit that I fill from the big tank when I want to leave the house.  Love you, too.

Jeanne Lee,   you've been in my thoughts and prayers since you wrote about your going-to-the-hospital experience.  I'm encouraged to read that the doctors are trying to figure out what will help so you can continue to be as independent as possible.
Re:  walkers/rollators.     I think I've written about the one I got that is hot pink and has zebra-striped fabric on the carrying case under the seat, which lifts like a lid.  The seat also has a zipper pocket on the bottom.  To get it in the car,  I set the brakes, fold it and secure the fold with a Velcro strap attached to the crossbar.  I can lift it into/out of the back seat or the trunk of my car.

I bought it at a health equipment supply store and they were very helpful about adjusting it for my height, as well as the necessary paperwork. My doctor had given me a "prescription" for a rollator so Medicare helped pay for it.
It cost $128.00.

Last night,  I put a bottle of water, some salad tongs (in a baggie) and my garage door opener in the case, set my bowl of salad on the seat and "moseyed" down to the complex pond for a neighborhood picnic.  Since it was shady and there was a nice breeze,  I didn't need my sun glasses or sun visor when I got there - so I put them in the case, too.
On the way back home,  I stopped to get my mail and.....well, you know where it went.

Surely was nice to feel secure walking down the street and back without having to carry anything.
Everyone was to bring something to sit on - and I was able to wheel around to sit and visit with various friends instead of having to stand or be stuck in one place.

Needless to say,  I like "Pinkie" !!!!!

Quiet almost to the point of boring around here today and I don't think tomorrow will be any different.  Now that The Grands are scattered and busy, it's not that much fun to "hang out" with family.  There isn't anybody to play with.   ;)

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere is having a lovely day.

Callie, I have a "walker" in reserve also.  It came with my foot surgery and, with Medicare approval, it was free.  So I took it and now I'm prepared.  I call mine "Ranger" for two reasons.  I'll be able to "range" with it and Walker is a Texas RANGER!

I watched an afternoon of Golden Girls while I removed the wrinkles from my duds.  It isn't w**k if you do it with the TV on so no demerits.  And now I don't have to look like I slept in them...for a week...outside....in the rain!

Myself and R got in two seperate downhill walks today with our Benji, same as yesterday...Our second walk around 6pm , again for the third time we bumped into new neighbours doing outside work to their parkhome, these are a couple ( Pam and Nigel ) who only officially moved in two weeks ago, such a lovely friendly down to earth pair, these are the ones with three small rescue dogs which come running up to greet you...Their parkhome is right next to a stream, they are having a high decking area built, the view will be lovely and calming when its done....
........................
I also had some company from neighbour next door, Esme, lady who made herself known when we first moved in, I was very surprised when she told me the age of her eldest, I then told her you must have been very young when you had him, she said yes, I was 16....I told her I was 18, she said yes, we were both too young......Again such a lovely and friendly lady to talk to, to get on with...in fact everyone I have met so far on this site have been friendly and very down to earth...with no airs and graces......

I hope everyone is having a happy holiday and those ill or hospitalized are getting needed care and getting healthy. I had my holiday on the first and nothing planned otherwise as rain here is expected until this Friday. Anyone wishing for rain will have to wait as Mother Nature seems to think we really,  really, need it this year!   :tickedoff:

The last three years have been like this more than sunny which is unusual for us and yet as it's a steady rain and not thunderous, the waterways are just siphoned off into holding areas and the rivers never flood.

I'm cleaning my oven today, it's nice that all the ones here are self-cleaning, but what a racket and smell! I swear I rarely use it!  :buck2:

Callie--I have a walker, too, but not as fancy as yours.

Janie--My walker doesn't have a name.  No demerits if you i--n while watching TV?  Ha, Ha.

Vanilla-Jackie--GREAT that you have such nice neighbors.

Angelface--I don't use my oven very often, so don't have to set it too self-clean often.  That smell is atrocious.

Sandy--Thank you.

Hope June is OK.  She hasn't been here.

Everyone sounds O.K. and I am thankful for that. Back later.....June

Jackie!  ;D

Joan, we have a twice yearly apartment inspection by the manager and the head of Housekeeping. The only things they mentioned for me was cleaning the oven which I rarely used and hadn't cleaned since move in on 12/13!

I well remember that smell from other apartments! I mentioned to them that I was waiting for a rare sunny day to self-clean so that I could put Farrah in her carrier on the balcony. Our manager suggested a rainy day instead for the generated heat.

The other thing was the mess from some of the cottonwoods nearby that had settled in my balcony door mesh. So I took my blow dryer to it and then swept.

I'm not used to being inspected, but since I live in a senior, disabled complex with many excellent advantages and with some on the first and second floor with issues of some type or another, I suppose it makes sense!

Farrah is definitely at home now. While cleaning and the fan active, she stood outside the gallery kitchen, looked at me and went "Win-Win!" which to her means FEED ME! Unfortunately, her food and water dishes sat on the floor by the range, and she was not going there! :tickedoff:

I put a placemat by the balcony doors and placed her dishes there so "Her Majesty" was appeased and had her snack. Afterwards, she went and laid in the bathroom for a well-earned, to her, nap.

Patricia,   love your "conversations" with Farrah.  She has developed quite a personality!

Joan - here's a picture of my rollator (price is cheaper than I paid - but I preferred to have someone knowledgeable helping me)
Click the small picture on the right to see the pink one.  Click "show larger picture" to get a good look at the zebra fabric.

I forgot to mention that it has "extensions" on the handles so the cushion of you hand below the thumb is supported.  Makes a nice difference when needing to steady myself.

CALLIE, your pink rollator is cute as can be.

We did go to a art festival today and I had a wonderful time zipping around in my cart.  I would never be able to walk that far.  Bob said I have already got enough service out of this cart to pay for it.  I am one very happy gal to have this cart.

JOAN, we do not have a fenced yard, so the dogs have to be walked on a leash.  It is all common grounds that are cared for by our HOA.  WE do let Lola go out on our deck, and for the most part she will not step off of it.  That gives her a little bit of freedom.

JACKIE, without a doubt Lola is MUCH easier to care for than the children!!!  To be honest she is a delightful little girl.  Sure nice to read that the walks are continuing and you are getting to know the neighbors.

Bob grilled burgers for us, and we were outside eating when the biggest clap of thunder sounded off, and in the house we came!  Bob being a Florida Boy, he never pushes his luck with lightening!  No walk in clinics for dental around here.... He took Alieve and has been careful to not chew on the tooth and it is not bothering him too badly.  Hope that continues to be the case.

ANGELFACE, it sure is good to read that Farrah is settling in and enjoying her new life with you. I felt bad for you regarding having to clean the oven....it really does STINK!

JANIE, thank you for the response regarding the sauce and trying to check out the salt content.....no, no.  Never dig something out and get those coffee grounds all over the place.  We do not have to restrict our salt intake either, but just do not use that much salt.  Of course the reason things taste so yummy is normally because the so have a lot of salt in them. I will definitely check out this brand of sauce as it sounded good and easy.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

The fireworks have started and there's a dog on each foot.  Oops!  Annie just burrowed further under the desk.  I never did understand the attraction that fireworks have for some people.  You'd think they could be happy with the public display that most towns have and not have to set off their own four consecutive nights to celebrate the holiday.  They are expensive, messy, dangerous and a menace to any animal within hearing distance of them.  The are also ILLEGAL!  Now I'll get down off my soapbox and close my mouth.  Back later!  I have to go cuddle the doggies.

GLORIA de  some music has be sitting here moving my feet in dance steps but if I stood to try it I wound be flat on my face. Prayers continue for your grandson.

JENNY  I agree with you. I always said June has a wonderful way with words.

JANE  I slept good last night but after I posted this morning I laid on the bed and slept 3 hours.

JEANNE LEE  glad you have kept your sense of humor. It helps a lot not to be grouchy. I often wish my rollator had the larger wheels. These small ones hinder me when on a rough surface. You are proving you read the posts. Smart gal you are. My thought and prayers are with you.

CALLIE  I bought my rollator before I knew Medicare would help with the cost. I went online looking for them. I have the pouch under the seat. I carry what I need in there. When I do go anywhere I put what is in there into my shoulder bag. I find I prefer sitting on the seat where ever I go, it is padded and the handles are great armrests.

PATRICIA  we have self cleaning ovens, too, but I don't use the oven, I use my toaster oven. I can bake even a pie in that.

I can hear some fireworks going off.

I did it ! I got my grocery order finished ! It took me a long time and got me tired out just sitting here. I don't think I would ever get anything done if I had to go to a store to shop. I am my own worst enemy though, slogging through my list, where I could just fill my shopping cart on line whenever I ran out of something, and it would stay in my cart till I finally had all I wanted. I should take advantage of that nice opportunity.

Patricia, I really enjoy reading about the progress of Farrah making herself at home. I wonder how long a memory animals have ? Hopefully Farrah has now forgotten the reasons she had to be so fearful. You have truly done well, Patricia.

Callie, your rollator looks about the same as mine. My basket under the seat is a wire one, so I have a liner for it, and that is always filled with "stuff". I am a terrible "pack rat".

Jenny, I am so happy that you are enjoying your new rollator, I would be very unhappy without mine. Quite a few people here have electric carts that they really need. Gary had gotten one for me, but it is stored in his storage shed. I prefer to keep walking as much as possible with the cart. But different folks have different needs.

Gloria, my rollator  was purchased years ago for my husband. He has been gone for 11 years now, and I have used his for probably 8 years , so they are worth every cent we spent on them.

It is time to think about something to eat. I brought home some turkey from lunch, so I will make a sandwich of that. It is hard to get hungry when I spend so much time sleeping.

Gloria and Patricia, thank you both for the 4th of July cards.  I am hearing firecrackers and fireworks galore as I type this.  Sitting on my deck, I was able to see some of the fireworks.  I think they're at the 5th Third Ballpark.  Tom just got home and said there are fireworks in every direction.

Everyone have a good Fourth!

We're lucky to be this far north and continuous daylight. It makes fireworks a bit redundant! They have displays on the winter solstice and up at the University on New Years at midnight. You can see those for miles and the cold negates fires but not injuries.

Every year, someone usually a guy in his twenties, gets injured fooling around.

Thanks to Phyllis for her great “Fourth of July” graphic creation which we are using this today.

CHUCKLES

Justin: Why does the Statue of Liberty stand in New York Harbor?
Gerald: Why?
Justin: Because she can’t sit down.

Johnny: Does Europe have a 4th of July?
Josh: No.
Johnny: Yes, it does. It comes right after the 3rd of July.
Joe: My brother swallowed a box of firecrackers.
Moe: Is he all right now?
Joe: I don’t know. I haven’t heard the last report.

Food For Thought

July 4th

Barbecues and fireworks, flags and parades, Independence Day evokes so many images of the American summer. Its original purpose to celebrate the birth of the American nation on July 4th, 1776 has given way to festivities that celebrate both America and the lives and freedoms that the accomplishments of American Independence have allowed. The commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is a time not only to reflect on what happened at America's founding but also to look again at the nation's values and recommit oneself again to those ideals.

Thought of the Day

Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

Soon we will be on the road, our neighbour is coming in to let the dogs out and feed them their supper tonight if I am not home in time. I have the wheel chair at the ready for me to take tomorrow when I bring him home. James Harriot is going to keep me company...a light read and heart warming stories.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Happy 4th of July.  Another memory in your chuckles today Joanie.  Back when I was still in school, my father asked us if we thought other countries have a 4th of July.  Of course, my sister and I both said a resounding "NO" because we knew about the revolutionary war and the Declaration of Independence.  He said, "Sure they do.  It follows the 3rd no matter where you live".  And then he grinned and walked away.

The picnic at my daughter's yesterday was fun.  It was just my daughter, SIL and me.  Good food, good company and relaxing.

I haven't decided what I'm going to get into today but I'm thinking maybe blueberry jam and if that goes well, maybe strawberry jam too.  This will involve a quick trip to WM because I need to replenish my jelly jars.  I also need to pay a few bills before it's too late.  I have a bunch of them on Auto Pay through my Credit Union.  I'd like to have ALL of them on Auto Pay so I don't have to worry about them.  This household chore is my biggest bug-a-boo.  I hate, loathe and despise it!  So There!

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, Boy that Windows 10 really wants to install, when I started up that page came up wanting me to install. In order to get away from it I had to pick an install date The latest date on it is 7-8 at 11PM. If I want to do it myself looks like I will have to do it before then. I dislike them making me do it. Now my TV will not come on either. All I get is no signal. Not a nice way to start my day. Looks like I will be calling Cox  but doubt they will send anyone till tomorrow. A couple of weeks ago cable went off. They said a construction company had cut the cable. Been having problems since. What a way to start the Fourth not.

PATRICIA  I thought I had picked the JL greeting you sent, that was the new one for this year.

PHYLLIS  wonderful graphic and the BG is perfect. No distractions.

JOAN  love the flag graphic for today. This is the first time in years that I did not make a 4th  graphic. A blueberry muffin will be great with my coffee this morning. Your second chuckle had me groaning, cute. Food for Thought has me wondering just how mane now living in the US really know why we celebrate the Fourth of July. For many of the young ones it is only a day to party. Wonder how much they teach in school now of the Revolution and what the early
Americans fought for to gain our freedom. Your choice of quote says it all.  Thank you for all today's goodies.

JUNEE  hello, hope you are feeling good.

LLOYD  remember no work for you today.

AMY  my prayers follow you and your husband today. Also pray that the surgeon's hand are guided by God. I have read some of James Harriot and enjoyed his stories.

JANE  glad your picnic yesterday was enjoyable for you. I was invited to my son's in-laws celebration today at their cap but declined. Since I can only get around with my rollator and the rough ground I would not be able to get around.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good morning, Junee.  Thanks for the good wishes.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Sorry you're having internet problems. Enjoy your time at your granddaughters and viewing the fireworks.

Amy--Good morning.  Thanks for the 4th wishes.  I continue to pray that all goes well with your husband's surgery.

Good morning, Janie.  Your father must have had a good sense of humor.  You really are "going to town" with the jam making.  I only have two bills that are not on auto pay, so it's pretty easy for me to get all the bills paid.

Gloria--Good morning.  Gosh, that Windows 10 is being persistent.  Maybe the cable is a general outage and they will get it fixed pronto.  Too bad you are unable to go to your son's today.

Good Morning Everyone!

Lloyd, I am in and out this morning.  Today is my watering day so moving hose every now and then.  And "kinda" picking up, wife will be home today from Del Rio.

It is nice and cool out this morning.  Yesterday was hot, hot, hot.  I went over to my daughters for supper last night and my SIL was grilling some steaks and I sit outside with him on he patio and it was an even 100 degrees in the shade.  His fans were not much use, just stirring they hot, humid air.  But the meal was great and the company even better.  They sent me home with amble snacks... ;)

Amy hoping everything turns out okay today.  Know it will be a long day for both you and your hubby.  Know he will not be neglected when he gets back home.

Got to go move my water.......

Hi everyone.  Happy 4th of July.  It will be another very hot day after reaching 100 degrees here yesterday.  The only activity I have planned for today is to attend a meeting at noon. Sure not looking forward to getting back into the car after the meeting as last week the car registered 106 degrees inside when I got back into it.  Fortunately it doesn't take too long to cool down.  We heard a few fireworks last night but nothing close.  I am sure there will be more this evening.

It is amazing how much the four little birds are growing each day.  The parent birds were very aggressive this morning when I went out to water the flowers with one coming close enough to my ear to hear the flap of its wings.

A friend sent me a link to a very interesting, if a bit frightening, video.  It involves GM and China.  http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Lvl5Gan69Wo

Gloria, I have read a lot of complaints about Microsoft installing Windows 10 without permission.  That is not very good public relations. I have never heard of anyone being struck by lightning while on the computer.  A good reason to work on a battery powered laptop during a lightning storm.  Of course, I keep mine plugged in so would not be protected.

Joan, Pat was feeling some better yesterday and seems even more improved this morning.

Patricia, Pat has a silicon oven liner that lays on the bottom shelf and any spills are caught on it.  It is easily removed and washed and saves a lot of oven cleaning.

I could have written many more comments regarding the fine messages posted since I read yesterday but decided to give you all a break and be relatively brief.  Probably back to normal book length tomorrow.

Good Monday afternoon Joan and Everyfriends..... well we cant tell you how ecstatic we both were this morning.....It seems Benji didnt have a " stroke " but he suffered " vestibular syndrome " ( which yesterday, our new neigbours Pam and Nigel from our site, told us to mention.. but we never got the chance to ask, vet knew already...) which mimics a stroke.....we are all amazed at how well Benji is doing, both of us, and Jeremy our today morning vet.........Yes he still has the odd head slant, twist, and his eyes and head doesn't always co-ordinate together, as to eating his food, but his " nystagmus " rapid side to side eye movement has stopped, his blood pressure is normal....Our vet today Jeremy one of two of my favourite vets...was so active and positive about how well our Benji was looking, how well he has recovered....All I could think of saying was, " thank you, thank you, thank you God, even Rs eyes were brimming with happiness, I just kept looking at him with the widest smiles you could think of....On the way home we stopped off at the dairy farm shop, I needed milk, and bought a cream cake to take home for us to celebrate with a cuppa, ( I even told the shop staff what we were celebrating )....but not before we all walked downhill and gave Benji a walk...Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts on keeping our Benji in prayer...as I said he was so so close to us ending his life either late Friday evening or early that Saturday morning, so so glad we - I decided on seeing how things went over the weekend, but that was one of the hardest choices, decisions I have ever had to make....and all because I didnt want Friday-Saturdays vet to end it....Link to two of my favourite vets, Jeremy and Giles....

Now of course we still have the cancer to face, we will deal with that when it turns....

Good morning, halkel.  Join me--it's Hot, hot, hot and humid here.  At least I don't have to water----the sprinkling system takes care of that.  You say you have to do some picking up.  Do you make a mess when your wife is away?:)

Larry--Good morning.  Thanks for the greeting and also the link.  I'll go to it when I am done here.  I am glad to hear Pat is feeling better.

Joanie, not really a mess, just let things sit.  But I have everything put up, and robo will do the vacuuming shortly.  Handy little thing.  Not enough stuff in the dishwasher to run it, so will leave it till it gets more.

Watering is done for this morning.  I will start violating the law this afternoon by putting water on before "allowed", but the backyard will be shaded from the trees.

You can get fined for violating the water laws.  We even have water police.  And to insult us even more we just got a notice that if we put garbage in the recycle bin that we can be fined 25 dollars.  Nothing like regulations to keep the people in line.

We had rain all day yesterday and did not quit until 9am today the 4th. Usually across the highway on the night of the 3rd it is so loud with fireworks going off all the time. Strange as that Area is "Little Mexico" that is all that live over there. Love their fireworks.

Maybe today the Parade may be done without it raining.  Tonight they have a big Firework show. Don't know about it as saying more rain tonight.  I can see them from here but to far away to get the noise, thank goodness.

I went out to go to the store to get jelly jars this morning and discovered that almost everyone in a four block area was participating in a community yard sale.  I don't know where my head has been for the last couple of weeks that I didn't hear about it.  I wouldn't have participated anyway but I might have walked around to see if their "junk" turned out to be my "treasure".  As it turns out, my across the street neighbor had a box of items for 10 cents and there was a lid in there that fits my big frying pan.  I've been looking for one and finally found one on Amazon that I was about to order for $29.00.  I bought his for 10 cents instead.

And my next door neighbor had some very old wood knitting needles in her "free" box.  They're now residing in a tall vase in my curio cabinet.  I remember my mother having some wooden knitting needles that have been long gone forever.

I finally got my jars washed and in hot water and started sorting my blueberries to make jam and discovered that it takes two packets of certo and I only had one.....back to the store!  Then it was lunch time and then my "across the street neighbor called to tell me that the wind chimes she had out hadn't sold and would I like to have one.  I did!  So I made out pretty good.  A lid, some knitting needles and a wind chime all for 10 cents and a few smiles and some good will.

Now I've had lunch, gave the doggies a snack and fed myself and the blueberries are still waiting.  I better get going or it will be bed time.

:hb2:  :cheer: In the summer of 1776, when the Declaration was signed, the population of the nation is estimated to have been about 2.5 million. (Today the estimated population of the U.S. is 322.7 million.) One of the most widely held misconceptions about the Declaration of Independence is that it was signed on July 4, 1776.

In fact, independence was formally declared on July 2, 1776, a date that John Adams believed would be “the most memorable epocha in the history of America.” On July 4, 1776, Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence. However most delegates did not sign the document until August 2, 1776, according to the National Archives. :cheer: :balloons:

Good morning from another misty, cloudy, rainy day from the Interior! I wonder what is going to happen to the big city-wide celebration and others more modest that have been planned?

Farrah has surprised me again. Some idiot has twice now shot off fireworks that you can only hear as the fog and mist predominate. Most people do not bother as the light, if not rainy as it is today, would be bright and sunny on a blue background! This is why we have our big fireworks celebrations in December, something this fool never got the memo for!

But back to Farrah, this is the second time loud noises never bothered her or even caught her attention more than a quick look to see if I was concerned. She is turning out fine.

Who in their right mind would
put garbage a recycling bin???
As garbage  can cause disease and Pestilence...

"Pestilence"  is also one of the four Horseman
of the Apocalypse in the book of Revelation
(which is part of The Bible),  but of course,  you
all know that!   Don't  you?

$25 is a small price to pay for spreading and  infecting
humanity with possibly deadly disease.

Best we keep recycled items clean
and safe for those who have to handle it.

halkel--We cannot mix garbage and recycle stuff either.  If they catch you mixing them, they won't take the respective receptacle.

JeanneP--I'm going to watch the fireworks on TV.  No rain here, but too darned hot for me to go sit outside somewhere to see them.

angelface--Farrah certainly is becoming acclimated.

Sandy--You'd be surprised at the people who are too lazy to separate garbage and the recycle things.

Jeanne Lee--Wonderful that all around you is perfect for the 4th.

Good Afternoon everyone. I just finished some breakfast and some lunch. This seems to be a lost day for me. I was in earlier and just too weary to post, so I am taking the day off. I was up in the middle of the night, adding coffee filters to my grocery order. Don't ask me why...I just woke up and realized I would be needing them, and fortunately we are enabled to do that. More and more I appreciate shopping on line.

Nothing newsworthy from here, so I will go back to bed and book and probably more needed sleep.

Re recycle, cardboard boxes are recyclable, BUT, pizza boxes, if they have a grease spot on them are not.  Plastic bags are recyclable if you accumulate them and place them inside a bag the size of a "baseball", their phraseology.

And Sandy, once you place the container on the curb anyone can come by and place anything in it without you being aware.

Our town periodically will inspect recycle bins and if there is something in there that is not acceptable for recycling they will leave a little polite reminder the first time.....if it still happens then there is a fine.  Some people are just too lazy or inconsiderate to follow the rules and, IMO, deserve to be fined.  I live on a cul-de-sac in a "no outlet" neighborhood so we don't have cars driving by just to put illegal things in our recycle bins.  Can't imagine that anyone would do that here.  Is that really a problem in your neighborhood, Hal?   :o

We haven't had any fireworks here that I have heard.  But the weather hasn't been too good for being outdoors so that has probably kept the noise down.  And, also, the fact that it is illegal here, too, and pretty strictly enforced probably helps.  I love organized fireworks shows but I don't trust some clueless guy to know what he is doing and who won't injure anyone or set my house on fire.

Laundry is done, folded and put away....vacuuming is done and dinner will be leftovers (mostly) so that is taken care of too.  It has been a productive day.

Same laws on refuse apply here too....every Borough Council have their different rules as to what we can, or can not put inside out recycle bins, then we have our glass bottle bin, green bin for grass cuttings, (of which our area doesn't have, but we can have our garden waste collected if we pay for the service, but it wouldn't be worthwhile for us living within a parkhome site of maximum 40 homes, if no one else is Interested ....) but we do have a large council run tip that will take that....We also have a food waste bin to keep separate, we never had that at our old address but they did collect our garden waste for free, so its a bit of swings and roundabouts depending on each borough we live under..... Another stiff rule is that we must close the lid down, we cant have anything bulging out.....otherwise supposedly they can refuse to take the rubbish, or maybe get a fine....

June--It's nice you can add to the grocery order you make out online.

halkel--I don't believe the garbage collectors are as strict here as where you are.

Phylllis--Twice since I lived here (that I know of) there have been recycle items added to mine at the curb.  We used to have open plastic receptacles so it was easy to glanced out the window and see the bin.  Now both garbage and recycle bins have lids.  The two times I saw my recycle bin had been added to it was liquor and beer bottles that got added.

Sandy--I can just picture halkel doing that.:)

Vanilla-Jackie--We can't have anything sticking out of our bins either.

Janie--Hurrah--the blueberry jam is done.  Did you have a sample?

Linedancer--I am going to try and see both fireworks shows, too.

When I lived in Port Townsend, Washington,
the recycling/ trash laws were something else.
Port Townsend is on a Peninsula with a well
maintained dump,  and weekly trash pickup....
but very strict.  (one large trash bucket per house)
When going to the dump they weigh your car  and
weigh it again when you leave,  and you pay for
the weight you leave behind.

I will say that they had the most fabulous
"Good Will",  because people would rather
leave their stuff there then pay
to have it disposed of in the dump.

They recycled everything, with many laws
governing how things were to be done.

So I know how Hall feels.

Here in the city the trash is taken care of
by our landlords ...   so we don't recycle,
per se.    They dispose of what we toss
down to the dumpster.   (Through a very
small hole,  and we have to pay for large
items to be disposed of.   And it is not
cheap.

(I just like giving Hal a hard time!)

:hb2:  A  HAPPY JULY 4th to all our
American Friends.

My thought for today....

Remember this as you celebrate this weekend! The American flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The American flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. American Soldiers don't fight because they hate what's in front of them...they fight because they love what's behind them.

We have enjoyed the day.  Son Mark and gal friend, Megan stopped by for a visit.  We talked on Face Time with our Austin son and DIL.  They are laying low today as it is to be very hot there.  Pictures and texts coming in from our family that is visiting in Lake Oswego, Oregon.  They are enjoying being with all their friends. Oldest Son Kurt, and the boys are enjoying festivities in Vail, but mama is on a plane to Germany so she is not getting to celebrate with them.

We attended a wonderful catered cookout in the community where  Dr. Dave and Family live.   Their HOA sponsors this every year and it is always a hit.  First class everything and we always enjoy it so much.  While we were there we had to feed the pets, then returned home to be with Granddog Lola.  We will try to watch some local fireworks tonight, but if we are too tired we will just stay home and enjoy the ones on TV.

GLORIA and ANGELFACE, I really enjoyed both of the Jaqueline Lawson Cards SO MUCH.  They were both very enjoyable.  I always think of Norm on holidays as he never ever missed sending me a Lawson Card and I always looked forward to them.  I hope he is enjoying his 4th in Heaven.  Also enjoyed your informative information about the coming of Independence Day.  Thank you, I enjoyed reading that.

JACKIE, I am just over the moon with happiness as I read your post about Benji.  So happy that Dr. Jeremy was able to give you this blessed news.  I enjoyed seeing the article you shared.  I know you and R are going to sleep much better tonight after finding our this diagnosis.  HUGS.

I wish you all a safe rest of your day.....

Jenny

Nope Joy, people putting things in our cans is not a problem, that I am aware of.  I just get tired of the powers to wanting to run every aspect of our life.

we have other pickups on a quarterly basis, brush and bulky items lor if out of cycle you can call and pay any fee for pickup.

as most of you know two old people generate little garbage.  and I normally put recycle out every other week.  I would do the same with garbage, except for smell.  I usually sprinkle a coffee can of kitty litter in the bottom on the can to Hold smell down.

I was in earlier, and lost my post, and didn't feel it was worth while to re-do it. I was siding with Hal about our various governments trying to lead us around by the nose. I never threw unwrapped garbage or animal waste in my trash barrel, I always wrapped it in newspaper or plastic bags. That way my trash barrels remained clean.

I had a nice surprise today. Gary and Dori popped in for a short visit. They brought me freshly made cupcakes. Dori frosted them with red, white, and blue icing, with sprinkles on to. They also took some to another woman that lives here, and is a member of their Church, then they were off to Newport Beach to have supper with friends, and more cupcakes to them. It  was so delightful to have even a short visit.

I have been home all day and will stay that way. We had no programs at all today, but plenty of fire crackers going on in neighboring dwellings. Have read almost a whole paper back novel, with naps along the way. Will have to think about what to heat up for supper. I'm sure not hungry.

JOAN  I called Cox cable and they did something from there and got my TV working again. Still miss watching the Boston Pops though. If we are lucky they will show the fireworks. I started
watching the Pops when we got our first TV back in the 50's. My grandson said he can partition my hard drive and install my disk of Windows 7.I asked the tech who was here last week about that and he said it could be done. Will have to call and find out when he can come to do it. Would be OK if it is the day after 10 installs.  When that happens I will go to the Microsoft site to download it from there.

HAL  hope you didn't have too much of a mess to pick up before your wife gets home. Today was another great day weather wise. By Wednesday and Thursday the forecast says in the 90's.  Oh boy a grilled steak, have not had one in several years.

LARRY  thanks for the link. I copies it to send others. That is terrible. If I was in the market I sure would not buy another GM car. Just a few days ago 10 started downloading and I could see no way to stop it so I manually closed the computer. I dislike anything being forced on me.

JACKIE  now that is good news about Benji. I feel happy for you.

JANE  .10cents is better than $29. Looks like you were lucky you needed more jelly jars.

SANDY  we have big bins here, 2 for recycle and 4 for trash/garbage.  Those 4 are bigger ad the lids are heave. I have seen more than one person put their trash in the recycle. When I asked one lady why she put the trash in the wrong bin she told me it was easier. To me it was just lazy.

JEANNE LEE  like your 4 P's

JOAN  I heard quite a few fireworks last night before I was even dark. Wonder what tonight will be like. The last 2 years I sat at my bedroom window and had a good view of the rockets.

HAL  here, too, pizza boxes are trash. The thin plastic containers are trash, Ice cream containers are trash yet people put them in the recycle. Those bins had signs on them about what is not for recycle but people do not read them, they even have pictures in case someone cannot read English.

DON  glad you are enjoying a vacation away from home and chores.

PHYLLIS  small fireworks are legal her but no loud, flares or rockets are legal. This year with t being so dry and low humidity and windy on TV they have been warning about the danger of a spark causing fires. Only the professional firework shows are allowed and those are always in a wide open place. We have has some beautiful weather but it will end this week, in a couple of days forecast is for hot and humid again.

JANE  oh boy a piece of toast of an English muffin with some of that jam yummy. Last time I made jam was about 15 years ago, the wild black grapes, never knew the name of them. There are a lot of the vines near my son's home. Going to the orchard in September you could smell the grapes, between those and the apples in the orchard, who would need any perfume.

GLORIA de  I went online looking for the Boston Pops hoping I could watch it on my computer. No way does that happen.

JENNY  I love the JL cards.  I will go to the site every couple of months and get card lined up go be sent out.  Get an email every time she comes out with a new one.

I can hear fireworks but not able to see them from my window.  Have a good night everyone

Well, God decided not to have fireworks around here tonight.  Just about the time they were starting and the doggies were hiding under the desk, it started to pour down rain.  All of a sudden, the fireworks were no more.  In this case a quick prayer for the doggies peace of mind was answered at precisely the right moment!  Thank you God!

I'm off to dreamland!  I had to wait for the doggies to dry off after I chased them out in the rain.  But we are on the way now.  So I will say Good Night Everyfriend!  Sleep well and wake to a happy tomorrow. God Bless Us Every One!

We went out to dinner with several friends and neighbors and got home around 8:00. The only place we could get in was the Texas Roadhouse. It was packed. Some of the restaurants around here were closed.

Hal - I watched the Capitol fireworks, some from Orlando, FL, and then Macy's fireworks in New York. Like you, I thought Macy's were fantastic. Very moving with the patriotic music.

When we lived in New Jersey we went to Liberty Park (the New Jersey side) once and watched some of the New York City fireworks. It was nice but we enjoyed them much more sitting home in front of the TV. Our daughter went out on the river in a boat with some friends and said it was spectacular, but shortly after that they stopped allowing boats. Too many problems with injuries from the fallout. Also it was getting crowded.

We knew the trash collecting rules in this community when we moved here so it's never been a problem. We are not allowed trash cans or recycle bins on the curb (or anyplace outside). All trash has to be put out in an opaque bag and recyclables in a clear plastic bag.  They pick up trash Mon. and Thurs., recyclables on Monday and yard waste (in tall heavy paper bags) on Wednesday. Works for me!

Jackie - I was so happy to read your news about Benji this morning.

Time for bed.......I have bocce in the morning.

CHUCKLES

Painting Selection

At an art gallery, a woman and her 10 year old son were having a tough time choosing between two paintings. They finally chose and went with the autumn themed one.

"I see you prefer an autumn scene as opposed to a floral one," said the gallery owner, who happened to be nearby and witnessed the mother-son interaction.

"No," said the boy. "This painting is wider, so it'll cover the three holes I put in the wall."

Food For Thought

True Bread: An Allegory
(Author Unknown)

A beggar came and sat before me. "I want bread," he said.

"How wise you are," I assured him. "Bread is what you need. And you have come to the right bakery." So I pulled my cookbook down from my shelf and began to tell him all I knew about bread.

I spoke of flour and wheat, of grain and barley. My knowledge impressed even me as I cited the measurements and recipe. When I looked up, I was surprised to see he wasn't smiling. "I just want bread," he said.

"How wise you are," I applauded his choice. "Follow me, and I'll show you our bakery." Down the hallowed halls I guided him, pausing to point out the rooms where the dough is prepared and the ovens where the bread is baked.

"No one has such facilities. We have bread for every need. But here is the best part," I proclaimed as I pushed open two swinging doors. "This is our room of inspiration." I knew he was moved as we stepped into the auditorium full of stained-glass windows.

The beggar didn't speak. I understood his silence. With my arm around his shoulder, I whispered, "It overwhelms me as well." I then leaped to the podium and struck my favorite pose behind the lectern.

"People come from miles to hear me speak. Once a week, my workers gather, and I read to them the recipe from the cookbook of life."

By now the beggar had taken a seat on the front row. I knew what he wanted. "Would you like to hear me?"

"No," he said, "but I would like some bread."

"How wise you are," I replied. And I led him to the front door of the bakery.

"What I have to say next is very important," I told him as we stood outside.

"Up and down this street you will find many bakeries. But take heed; they dont serve the true bread. I know of one who adds two spoons of salt rather than one. I know of another whose oven is three degrees too hot. They may call it bread," I warned, "but it's not according to the book."

The beggar turned and began walking away. "Don't you want bread?" I asked him.

He stopped, looked back at me, and shrugged, "I guess I lost my appetite."

I shook my head and returned to my office. "What a shame," I said to myself. "The world just isn't hungry for true bread anymore.”

Joanie, still dry here.  Although some parts of Texas got some bad weather yesterday.  And suppose to be hot, like always, in Texas in July.

I hope everyone has a great day.  I didn't see Jackie here this morning, I hope all is well with her.

Good late afternoon.....our today weather is turning out very pleasant.....

I have been in the garden finishing off the last of the hedge trimming, but had to come in for a rest as my body and legs were starting to get weak, so all the droppings are still on the grass.....maybe R can clear up when he gets in with his shopping.....or see how I feel later....

On the good news side, we have finally had our bathroom Insurance claim carpeting laid, cant believe it has taken so long but its finally down, and there is enough to go into our small office space, would have to go over the laminate flooring, with a different underlay, then man says he can cut the bottom of the office door without taking it off its hinges, so carpet will fit underneath and door can open over it.....or he can take up the laminate flooring, but he said that would be more of a complicated way, and I guess a more expensive job.....He has given us a reasonably cheap quote...as soon as we let him know, he can come and do it in a week...

Of course while he was here he left our front door open, it was only after we had all been chatting that I called out for Toby, no answer, we couldn't find him anywhere in the home, nor garden so panic thinking he had done a runner....He was at the far end of our garden, ignoring our calls....

Still haven't received my disabled Blue Badge, been a good three weeks now.....

Hi everyone.  I have just been outside to do the watering and it is already 82 degrees and headed up to 95 or higher today.

Right now don't have anything planned for today that will require me going out again until the mail comes late this afternoon.  I have a number of things on my "to do" list that I will tackle today, at least some of them.

We did not remember to tune in the special 4th of July events on TV last night.  We tried to watch a Netflix but it started buffering so we gave up and watched a couple of the "Keeping Up Appearances" and don't remember laughing so much is quite awhile.  I have seen them all before but they just seemed to be extra funny last night.

I am enjoying some good cold old-fashioned seeded watermelon for breakfast .  Breakfast is my favorite time for it.

Jackie, glad for that good news on Benji that it wasn't a stroke. Just enjoy each day and don't waste your time worrying or thinking about what could happen tomorrow that may steal your joy for today.

Hal, we have an interesting recyle and waste disposal program in North Augusta.  We get big heavy duty blue bags for our recyclables and the big big for the other trash.  The blue bags are put into the trash bin for pickup.  Then they have a separate truck come by to pick up any cardboard that we put out and then a truck comes by to pick up large items and yard waste.  One reason our city is so neat and clean is that they run a street sweeper and they have city workers who pick up road side trash that some people seem to think it is fine to toss out of their cars.  I put only glass and plastic items in the big blue bags. As far as I know we are not fined for non-compliance.  I am glad we only have one big rolling bin.  I did get a kitchen sized waste basket to use with the blue bags.

Sandy, I don't like a messy garbage can either and we put all of our trash in the trash can bag.  We recently bought some of the Glad heavy duty kitchen bags with Frebeze.  It is suppose to take care of any orders in the trash can for 5 days.

Joan, last week our good neighbor across the street knocked on the door and asked if she could put some trash in our half full bin that was at the curb.  Of course we said yes.  She is trying to get a handle of moving everything out of her mother's house that is next door to us before the new owners occupied it.  I thought it was very considerate of her to ask.

Gloria, glad your cable TV is back working properly.

JaneS, you are quite a bargain hunter as you sure made your 10 cents go far.

Good morning, Larry.  Your temp is going to be about like ours today.  I use those Glad heavy duty bags with Fabreze, too.  I put them in my roll out trash can that's installed inside a kitchen cupboard until they're full and I take them to the trash bin in the garage.  We aren't allowed to have any trash cans outside--except at the curb on trash days.  My next door neighbors seem to have an abundance of trash and long ago they asked if they could put the overflow in my trash bins.  Since  it's only me here, my bin is never full.

Good early morning, I was up by 8, as my handy man is here fixing the floor, it is going to be a bigger job, as he has found black mole in the hall. It rained all night, but now the sun is coming out, and the humidity is 99

Joan, I watched both Pop, but have to say I was disapointed in the music, and the costumas. I guess I am getting old.

jackie, I am so glad to read that Benji, seems better, and you are getting things done around the house. How lucky Benji did not go far.

Amy, pray that every thing went well for your husband.

Thanks for all the prays for Jess, now they he is in rehab, it will take a while, before he can walk again.

Gloria I also have to say again, that I was disppointed in the music overall and the singers. I like to have some music I know, I was suprised they did not play patriotic music while the fireworks were going off. Just at the end was one, other wise it was something about a red wagon (I could see the words, as I have captions also)

Now about recycle, our new garbagemen who now only comes once a week. We were told to put everything toether, they come back the same day for grass and leaves. I still seperate my papers, but they still throw them in the same place.  There have been complaints to the office when this first started.  I thought is was law of the land now, to recycle, but what do I know.  We are not happy about it, was we do not pay for pick up.

June, how nice you got red, white and blue cup cakes.

Good morning everyone, well we are back to yucky heat and humidity but at least the week end and the 4th had great temperatures for anything outside. It rained over night.

HAL  I watched the fireworks from Boston and was disappointed in them, not half as spectacular as other years. Nothing different, all looked the same except for the height they went up.

JANE  I could hear some last night but no many and they were early, the sky was not dark yet. One time you were happy to see that rain.

BEVERLY  here in RI  all around the state they have the same trash barrels now. Trash trucks have the levers on the sides to pick them up and dump them into the truck. One for trash and one for recycle, different color lids. The lids are attached and must be closed. Too many wild critters moving into this area, lot of coyotes and black bears are spotted quite often. Not safe to take a hike in the woods anymore.

JOAN  oh boy I will do justice to your breakfast this morning. After having windows open today will be back to the AC. Like the reason for the autumn painting. Hard to find “True Bread” these days. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  have a safe trip  to bring you husband home.

JANE  like you it looks like our nice weather is at an end. Still have 90° in the forecast. I will not go outside but stay inside. The hallways and the community areas on the ground floor are always on the cool side.

LLOYD  be careful if you have to work out in that heat.

HAL  where I was living before there was someone who always waited till midnight to set off those loud fireworks. Not just on the 4th but about 5 nights in a row.

JACKIE  you were busy this morning. Toby took advantage of the open door.

LARRY  I never had watermelon for breakfast. With the temperature and humidity going up again will be a good time for cold watermelon.

LARRY  glad the person I talked to was able to get my TV running again. My internet and phone were OK, just the TV was messed up.

GLORIA    de  hope the handyman can get rid of all that mold. That is dangerous.
I was disappointed in the Pops fireworks last night. First time I thought they were all the same, nothing spectacular. Maybe they ran out of money. I missed the 1812 Overture with the fireworks. That was always played then.

OH boy, the speech at 11 is about Hilary's email. Enough already. So tired of all that. I still would hate to see her as president.

Linedancer--I hope the workman can get rid of that black mold.  I continue to pray for your grandson that he will do well in therapy.  It seems trash removal rules differ in about every locale.

Gloria--Sure wish some of that rain would come our way.  The fireworks shows nationally left a lot to be desired.  Actually the one at Lake Eola in Orlando was the best I saw on TV.

halkel--I am just tired of all the mud slinging.

Good Morning all, I wish I had a nickel for every firecracker or explosive device I heard last night. It sounded like a war zone outside our gated community. We are surrounded by a trailer park to the North, two story homes to the East and West, and a variety of stores, homes, etc. to the South. I asked my son if Orange Co. didn't have laws about fireworks..every other county I have lived in have outlawed them, with big fines if the perp. is caught He said yes, there are laws, but the police can't be everywhere at one time. The noise went on till about 10 o'clock and I fianlly fell asleep.

In Weymouth we have a very large council borough run recycleing base.....you just drive in, park at your nearest recycling bins, if any space available, look for the correct waste container, you usually have to climb metal steps, they are all positioning and easily marked, then throw your Item in....We have everything from electrical's, to white goods, cardboard, garden waste, metal, Iron, wood, plastics....household photo frames, vases, ornaments. china and glass.....These places can get very busy, its an in an out kindof place...a sort of a drive through.....There are work-people on site to help you find the correct disposal container..... What then happens to the stuff, I have no clue....but I guess they make their money from it as they don't charge anything for our free disposal....Link to our local Weymouth dump...the coloured signs point you to the correct waste skips...... Link, this place is larger than it looks....Oh and if you follow the drive out along the road, you will come to a long wall, the sea is behind that....

Good morning everyone!

What makes me positively ill about the mudslinging is so much of it is paid for by our tax dollars so needlessly but that's nothing new!

Same old weather pattern and same old lady and cat so nothing new here. The fourth was relatively quiet with all the fog and rain.

Jackie, we have three recycling places here and they are all as you describe.

I know I said that the rain put a damper on the local fireworks but by the time I went to bed the rain had stopped.  I was just drifting off when 5 loud bursts woke me wide awake.  I glanced at the clock and it was 12:01.  What an inconsiderate person that was!

The strawberry jam is finished.  All there is yet is the red raspberry and I have to wait until the beginning of August for more berries.

June--As I said earlier, I didn't hear many fireworks around me last night.

Vanilla-Jackie--That sounds like a lot of sorting and then climbing stairs to get rid of your refuse.  Thanks for the link.

angelface--If you don't have a vehicle how do you get to the recycling locations?

Janie--Did the late fireworks wake up your sweet doggies?  Yum!!  Red raspberry jam.  Can I have a tiny taste when you make it?

Joan, I don't recycle. I should but the building here has specific rubber barrels for paper or glass and for soda cans which we all use.

Janie, you and others may enjoy these simple recipes using berries from PureWow.

Honey-Blueberry Lemonade (makes 1 large glass): In a large glass, muddle 2 tablespoons honey with ½ cup blueberries to combine. Add the juice of 2 lemons and 1 cup cool water. Stir well to combine. Serve over ice.

Strawberry-Basil Lemonade (makes 1 large glass): In a cocktail shaker, muddle 2 tablespoons sugar with ¾ cup quartered strawberries and 2 small sprigs of basil. Add the juice of 2 lemons and 1 cup cool water. Put the top on and shake the mixture vigorously to combine the ingredients and dissolve the sugar. Serve over ice.

Classic Fair-Style Lemonade (makes 1 large glass): In a cocktail shaker, place 2 tablespoons sugar, the juice of 2 lemons, 1 cup cold water and 4 or 5 ice cubes. Put the top on and shake the mixture vigorously to combine the ingredients and dissolve the sugar. Serve over ice.

Amy, I'll bet you're glad that part's over with!

Another 45 min. wait on the phone to talk to our Illinois Auto License Office. Have been trying to get them for over a week and so I just hung on.
Now here they are no longer sending out the forms in order for one to renew the stickers. You have to watch and take care yourself. Do it on line or send in a copy of prev. years with a CC number . No personal Cheques.  I did mine on line and it said would come to me in 7 to 10 days. That was a month ago. Still not here. So now they tell me it was mailed to me June 12th. But is going through a cheaper rate of mail. Not first class. Yes on top of the $101 there are charges of $2.37 for mailing and handling.  They will now charge you $200 if they see that you do not have a current new sticker on if 30 days gone buy from when due.
So far the news say that they have collected over one Million . 2 in fines for people since Jan. 1st for having a past due sticker. Man 2 doors down had one 3 years old on his.
You get stopped now for every little thing and get a find. Light outs. Bad muffler. Getting unbelievable. Illinois so short on money they say. Now most street meters are $1 a hour to park . $10 for each ticket gets put on .  Think I will start using the buses.  I had one on my car 2 weeks ago on the Library parking lot that has City meters that you pay until 4pm. I put my car on at 3:45 not thinking.
They got a  worker for Walmart's yesterday. He was burning the Flag and putting in on the Internet. Got a good write up in today paper. What a speech he gave about what he thinks is wrong with the US.  I do agree to something he say but sure was crazy to burn the flag on that day.  People all around the Walmart's wanting him fired and such. I need to go there today but hope it cools down. So many crazy people anymore out there.  It looks like they are not going to be able to get much on him. Seems to have a good lawyer already in court this morning. I had noticed him at Walmart's just the other day. Sort of Asst. Mgr. I think. Just 24.

I just don't feel I am up to signing in for anything...just too tired most of the time. I want to do volunteer work, but I want it to be a program that does not demand my appearance.

Good afternoon, man still working on my floor.

The black mold I have  has been there a long time Tommy is telling me, it was under the rug. Maybe it is some of my breathing problems.

Amy Most men are not good patients, my husband was one of the worst.  Years ago when I worked in the hospital, telling me my husband was signing himself out.  He was in tractions for a bad back. I sure did not go up and read him his rights, someone else had to do that.  After he got a pace maker he use power tools and went gambling once in a while, you are suppose to stay a certain distence from them.  He also had COPD and 80 years old, so what the heck he did what made him happy.  I still was lucly to have him 62 years.  NOw I am in the same boat at 92, and eat whatever I want.

Recycleing goes by township around here, in the next town, you can be fined for mixing up glass, cans and paper. As I said before, I thought it was the law.

I hope we hear from JeanneLee to day

Amy--Glad you were able to bring your husband home.  If he wants to go back to the hospital tell him not to follow doctor's orders.:)

Angelface--That's good that you have bins at your complex for recycling.

JeanneP--We still get the form to renew our tags in the mail.  I just mailed mine in.  It cost $46.85 for a year.  You sure are having a time getting a form.

June--I'm with you.  I volunteered for umpteen years, and I am done with that.

Linedancer--Hopefully your floors will be completed today.  I was lucky.  My husband was a great patient.

I hope we hear from Jeanne Lee, too.

Joan. Are you saying that in Florida it only cost $46.85 a year for you license Plate tag. I think I need to move out of Illinois now. Everything is getting to be so expensive. All because we have had 3 Governors put in Jail for Curr option. One now is a multi Millionaire and as long as he makes money doesn't bother about anything else.  Parks are looking awful. No street work done. Schools short of money. He just wants people coming in this town putting up massive Apartment Building . Doing anything he can get High Taxes from. Just wants money coming in and none going out.

I am solo these days but it ends next Monday.
First I get email saying my phone account has not been paid and cutting off phone in 4 days. So after getting over shock rang to pay by visa and told it was a ScAM and my
Account was ok.

Next I get an email saying my energy bill, for electricity and gas was overdue and cutting itnOFF by 7th July. shock no 2. Looked carefully at this letter and rang grandson who
Rang dept ,it was a sham.

This morning at 5.30 I got up and no lights -blackout- so doubted what he had told me but he rang and Energy told him there had been a lot of these letters sent but q they were a scam.
This might sound like a crazy old dame at this end but every word is true.
Think maybe I am being tested???? Daylight now and lights are on.

Gloria de, I too was married for 62 years, and I'm pushing 92. My husband died at age 90. We do have a few things in common.

Bis, I would really like to volunteer. but my body more and more keeps telling me..no way! At least we have some good memories of what we were able to do at one time.

Junee, I am so thankful you have a grandson to turn to that can help you out. I am blessed with two sons that look after my "stuff" that I don't know how to handle.

I have been to the community meeting this morning and lunch downstairs,  and balance and mobility class this afternoon. Had planned to go to a program this evening, but at this point in time, I think I will pass it up. I do need to make another trip downstairs..there is a package waiting for me to pick up.  I may let it wait till tomorrow.

I'm lucky to have a daughter who works for the Area Agency on Aging and what she doesn't know from personal experience, she knows someone who does.  She's forever forwarding pamphlets to me that she thinks I should read and if I email a question to her, she will forward it to someone in her office.  Sometimes she answers and sometime the person who received the forward answers.

And now, I'm off to Dreamland!  I wish you all a peaceful sleep and a happy awakening.  Good night Everyfriend!  May God bless us, every one!

Well, in Kansas we pay about what Joan does for the tag but every year we have to pay tax of the value of the vehicle at the same time... which goes down with age, but a new little car can cost about $800 + ... & the RV costs  :o (even if it's a lemon~).  That is not the sales tax.

Would you believe my lemon has a flat tire in my driveway AGAIN?  Same tire (inside dual on passenger side).  This makes a 3rd time, maybe 4th?.... the original tire had a slash in the sidewall that snugs against the other tire so not a human doing... maybe?  The tire company took off the outer tire & said the inside would hold air to use as a spare but only slow & short trip to get new tire, so they put on the new spare (these are Michelin tires, not cheap).  The mechanics working on it noticed the slash, was not flat but they insisted I take it to a tire place that could lift an RV).  The new spare made one trip from Wichita to St.Louis & back, found that inside tire flat days later, with whole valve stem missing, plus the bracket they put on provided by Thor.  Another slash in the sidewall & this time I had to buy a new tire.  They took the bad one to their store to mount a new one & insisted with the new long stem air gauge I could check the air. Wrong!  The service guy put on a short stem so next day I had to drive it back to the shop for long one to be installed before using again. Next trip (to the mountains & back) and the discovery today, flat.  They are to come in the morning to see if this tire is also slashed ... or why it is flat.  I called Ford & the service man says he "doesn't know of ANY problem with dual tires on Fords" (guess he doesn't get on the internet?)  The tire place is stalling & naturally, "not their fault"....

I don't know if I posted that on the drive to the mountains a couple weeks ago, I went back to get bottles of water for my son & myself, and the 'frig door came off in my hand.  We had heard a noise earlier so I looked all over & saw nothing the cats might have knocked over... the door hinges just broke, they are plastic...  We called the RV place where I bought my other son the pull type A-frame a couple years before... has all the goodies from microwave to heated queen bed, etc.... & the lady in charge of parts checked, seems the hinges on my Thor frig can't be replaced, must replace the whole door!

Naturally, it's out of warranty~  sons managed to fix in the Walmart parking lot area where probably 20 or more RVs were parked for overnight, bought all the parts from Walmart & it is doing the job just fine.  During that night in the parking lot the radon detector or whatever it is... (not smoke detector... it runs on a 9 volt battery)... started beeping because the accessory battery was dead!  I listened to it all night, the boys were sleeping in their camper.  How can that be when I had it fully charged before we left, had it plugged in to have freezer & 'frig cold for the trip... and the drive should have kept it fully charged.  The battery has been bad from the first, would be down in 2 days even with not using it at all... in storage mode.  So, back into Walmart for a new accessory battery... son installed.  That new battery is holding up like a champ!  Does this make your head ache?  Sure does mine!

Every time I've used it I have had to take in for repairs or had the mechanics come to my driveway.... those hydraulic jacks that wouldn't come up in my driveway, water pump had to be replaced, water running out around the faucet for outside shower... & on & on.  Have parts waiting to replace for the awning, this makes the 3rd repair on it... 2 recalls & another panic when the mechanics discovered the front end dangling about an inch away from the frame & had to remove the microwave to bolt the awning through the frame as should have been done at the factory!!!  At least the awning company is standing behind their product, 2nd time to replace the strip of "party lights" when it's open ... never been used.... and end caps because the rear one is missing.  No clue when that fell off.

Between cats & this RV, this old lady is about to cave in.  Not another model with a wood door to the bedroom where the cats can stay when I want to get in & out... same issue of take the cats or can't go, or have them put to sleep.  I can't do that to healthy animals so will plug along ... and come here to gripe.

I really am reading, sympathizing & saying prayers for those in need.... and smiling at the good reports.... but my head is aching with all these extra hic-cups.  Besides, the heat index today was 108 & blistering sun.  We had so much rain I had to drain water that was lapping out of the pool... and ran to iron a shirt for the family party... drained out too much so had to add some back last night.

The fireworks here, across the river & in the street of our block... was absolutely the most amazing I've ever seen.  Across the river I couldn't see what went off on the ground (because of my trees on the river) but the stuff in the air was more & bigger & louder than any I've ever seen before.... even at the state fairs.  Because we had enough rain it wasn't as dangerous, and no wind, so except for terrifying animals, no harm done.  Cats kept going to the door & would listen... until about 1:30 am... before no bangs.

That's my world this week... Junee... I know how you feel ... just a little peace, huh?

Junee.  Funny how all that happens with Jan Being gone. Was it people calling on the phone?
Just ignore as No utilities can be shut of by a company unless you have had a notice from them after it being past due for 30 days.  Somehow it seems that it was known that you would be alone in the 2 weeks.  Let Grandson Handle things or David.
This Scamming is getting terrible now.  Will just get worse.  We like our computers, Internet and all the Tech Stuff but it has sure ruined the world. Things were better off with out it.
Heck. Now my State office can't even take care of getting a simple little Yearly license plate renewal taking care of.  Use to be 3 days. Been over a month now and mine is messed up.
I just demanded a E-M from them to say that I had paid by CC in June. They sent it so I will forget until they get one to me. Keep the E-M in the Car incase the Police stop me.

CHUCKLES

The Hamster

After buying her kids a pet hamster, after they PROMISED they would take care of it, Mom, as usual, ended up with the responsibility.

One evening, exasperated, she asked them, "How many times do you think that hamster would have died if I hadn't looked after it?"

After a moment, her youngest son replied quizzically, "Once?"

Food For Thought

The Pickle Jar
(Author Unknown)

The pickle jar as far back as I can remember sat on the floor beside the dresser in my parents' bedroom. When he got ready for bed, Dad would empty his pockets and toss his coins into the jar. as they were dropped into the jar. They landed with a merry jingle when the jar was almost empty. Then the tones gradually muted to a dull thud as the jar was filled. I used to squat on the floor in front of the jar and admire the copper and silver circles that glinted like a pirate's treasure when the sun poured through the bedroom window.

When the jar was filled, Dad would sit at the kitchen table and roll the coins before taking them to the bank. Taking the coins to the bank was always a big production. Stacked neatly in a small cardboard box, the coins were placed between Dad and me on the seat of his old truck. Each and every time, as we drove to the bank, Dad would look at me hopefully. "Those coins are going to keep you out of the textile mill, son. You're going to do better than me. This old mill town's not going to hold you back." Also, each and every time, as he slid the box of rolled coins across the counter at the bank toward the cashier, he would grin proudly. "These are for my son's college fund. He'll never work at the mill all his life like me." We would always celebrate each deposit by stopping for an ice cream cone. I always got chocolate. Dad always got vanilla. When the clerk at the ice cream parlor handed Dad his change, he would show me the few coins nestled in his palm. "When we get home, we'll start filling the jar again." He always let me drop the first coins into the empty jar. As they rattled around with a brief, happy jingle, we grinned at each other. "You'll get to college on pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters," he said. "But you'll get there. I'll see to that." The years passed, and I finished college and took a job in another town.

Once, while visiting my parents, I used the phone in their bedroom, and noticed that the pickle jar was gone. It had served its purpose and had been removed. A lump rose in my throat as I stared at the spot beside the dresser where the jar had always stood. My dad was a man of few words, and never lectured me on the values of determination, perseverance, and faith. The pickle jar had taught me all these virtues far more eloquently than the most flowery of words could have done.

When I married, I told my wife Susan about the significant part the lowly pickle jar had played in my life as a boy. In my mind, it defined, more than anything else, how much my dad had loved me. No matter how rough things got at home, Dad continued to doggedly drop his coins into the jar. Even the summer when Dad got laid off from the mill, and Mama had to serve dried beans several times a week, not a single dime was taken from the jar. To the contrary, as Dad looked across the table at me, pouring catsup over my beans to make them more palatable, he became more determined than ever to make a way out for me. "When you finish college, Son," he told me, his eyes glistening, "You'll never have to eat beans again...unless you want to."

The first Christmas after our daughter Jessica was born, we spent the holiday with my parents. After dinner, Mom and Dad sat next to each other on the sofa, taking turns cuddling their first grandchild. Jessica began to whimper softly, and Susan took her from Dad's arms. "She probably needs to be changed," she said, carrying the baby into my parents' bedroom to diaper her. When Susan came back into the living room, there was a strange mist in her eyes. She handed Jessica back to Dad before taking my hand and leading me into the room.

"Look," she said softly, her eyes directing me to a spot on the floor beside the dresser. To my amazement, there, as if it had never been removed, stood the old pickle jar, the bottom already covered with coins. I walked over to the pickle jar, dug down into my pocket, and pulled out a fistful of coins. With a gamut of emotions choking me, I dropped the coins into the jar. I looked up and saw that Dad, carrying Jessica, had slipped quietly into the room. Our eyes locked, and I knew he was feeling the same emotions I felt. Neither one of us could speak.

Sometimes we are so busy adding up our troubles that we forget to count our blessings. Sorrow looks back. Worry looks around. Faith looks UP!

Good morning Joan, all who are soon to follow....dont think much is on our today agenda...Just had a shower and washed my hair, I have phoned our vet to check they have Benji prescription food in stock, they do, and will put it aside until we pop in later today....of course if we thought, we could have picked it up, or ordered it Monday, but we had other things on our mind, re our Benji.....I can order it online and have already placed an order, I don't need a prescription to do so, but its a company I haven't ordered from before, so not sure how long it will take to arrive, so better be safe than sorry...after all it is only a dozen tins at a time we pick up, so will have a few weeks to hand....I am still mixing half and half as I read up on ingredients and cant find any meat, now dogs MUST have meat, mustn't they?  ;)
.............................
R will be booking carpet man to come and lay office carpet, hopefully he will come some time next week, so another on my to do list to tick off, still got a few more left, like my Blue Badge, my eye test, Petplan Insurance cheque, that too is now overdue, our bath panel is due to be fitted this Friday, so another tick....
...........................
Today we will just take Toby with us in the car to our vets, we will give him a run on the grassland to the back, he hasn't seen that yet, only our Benji, so he will get a treat....Benji will be left a short while by himself at home...Hope our weather stays nice as it was yesterday.....

Our Benji is almost back to our normal Benji, even taking food from his bowl now, not so much from a small saucer, and not from my hand....He even surprised me yesterday with picking up soft toy and wanting to play.........I keep forgetting myself by throwing a short distance for him to catch, I have to keep it at body level, I cant have him trying to jump up for it, his balance is not up to doing that.....but this is all progress, well that is till the cancer starts doing its worst....but that is NOT now...
............................
Hope your day goes to your plan......
...........................
Joan I will save my piece of cinnamon coffee cake till I get back.... ;)

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  You sure are making progress in getting things on your list taken care of.  Enjoy that coffee cake when you return from the vets.:)

I am going to get out and do errands as early as I can.  Local weatherguesser just said we will reach 98° today with high humidity--making it feel like 105°.

Vanilla-Jackie--When it's this hot I mostly stay in the house.  My car has great a/c so I won't be outside except to go from car into store.

Good morning, Amy.  Glad to hear your husband had a good night.  How often does the nurse come?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's only 66º here right now but it's heading for the 90s by noon.  Summer in PA has arrived!  I'll be off to Wally World to greet my public at 9.  I hope today is busier than yesterday when I went in to pick up a few things.  I like shopping when it's not busy but I rather have it busy when I work.

Joanie, I copied and printed the end of your inspirational reading to remind myself to keep my faith "looking up".  And I've been singing the hymn, MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE ever since I read it.  I'd almost forgotten that hymn.  Thanks for the reminder!

I hope you all have a good day!  Make it what you want!

Junee, nothing gets me more agitated than having to always be on the alert for all of these scams.  I've been threatened with being arrested for not paying taxes.  SCAM!  I've been asked to send money so I can inherit millions of dollars.  SCAM!  I've been offered a free cruise if I'll just send my bank number.  SCAM!  On and on and on.  I am so tired of sleazy crooks pestering me so often either by phone, by email, or by just ringing my doorbell.  You were very smart to call and check on it with the utility companies before you lost anything.

Hot today.  I will probably not go outside, if I can help it.  Take care and stay cool, everyone, or in Junee's case....stay warm.

Hi everyone.  It is a clear but warm morning and almost already 80 degrees headed up to 97 this afternoon.  The main activity for today is to go to a nice restaurant, the Chop House, at the Augusta Mall to celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary and Pat's 75th birthday.  We went there last year and the food is very good and there is a very nice atmosphere.  Scott will be going with us to help celebrate and then we hope he will spend some time with us the rest of the afternoon and early evening.  My chores for today are basically done so can take it nice and easy the rest of the day.  Yesterday I got most of the "to do" list completed but still have a couple of things left to do. We did have thunder late yesterday afternoon and a very brief rain that really wouldn't be very helpful.

Joan, we have the same restriction about trash cans not allowed to be seen from the street.  However, we could keep them behind the wooden fence around the back but that is totally inconvenient so keep ours in the garage as it is a very short distance to the street.

deAngel, glad the black mold was discovered as that can really make a person sick and perhaps has contributed to your breathing problems.  I think recycling policy is up to local jurisdictions.

Amy, glad your husband is home from the hospital.  It sounds like the days may be long for him since he is suppose to not do anything as he recovers.

June and Joan, I also volunteered for a number of things after I retired but those years are now behind me.

Junee, glad you were cautious and called the companies about those utilities.  Computers have made scamming easy and they know people want to pay their bills.  Here we can go online to the utility and see the status of our account.  I think the clue is to always be suspicious and check things out for yourself.

Good morning everyone, this is going to be an AC day. Already 79° and the sky is hazy. Don't have to hear the humidity is up, the sky says it all.

HAL she is like her husband, gets away with everything she did or does. Wonder what happened that honest politicians do not have a chance anymore.

JOAN  with the Pops not playing the 1812 along with the fireworks and the not spectacular display don't think I will ever miss I again, I will look at either the DC or Macy displays next year. Mud slinging seems to be the norm for candidates now.

AMY   only knew 1 man who liked to do nothing. That was a long time ago and from what someone told me lately that is what he still likes to do. Hope you hubby likes to read or make puzzles to keep busy with. Of course there is still TV if you can find something worth watching.

JUNEE  we get so many emails and phone calls that are scams we have to be alert all the time. I keep getting calls from Microsoft that they found I have computer problems and they are calling to access my PC to fix it. I tell them I have now PC and hang up.

JANE  we all have to be alert these days. We have been warned on TV about scams but some elderly still fall for them. Before I open an email if I do not know the sender or it looks weird I will block and delete it. I get more of those in my Yahoo email than seems normal. I would drop that one but need it for the PSP groups. I checked there yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks and had over 1000 that were in the junk folder, took several minutes but got them all deleted.

SHIRLEY  you have had enough stress with it and spent more on it that it is worth. Time for a trade in to a different one?

JOAN  cinnamon coffee cake will “hit the spot” this morning. I love the Pickle Jar. A keeper and one to share. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LARRY  on the TV it says 86° already. Doubt I will go outside at all today.

My CNA will be here soon, busy day for her today after having Monday off.

Good Morning Everyone!

Another hot Texas July day is ahead and of course with no rain.  Just heard the trash truck go by, just went out to close hood on wifes car and brought can in to gate.

Larry we keep our cans in the back yard.  No room in garage with two cars and lots of junk.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I, too, am sick of scams.  The perpetrators move on so fast that authorities can't catch them.

Larry--Good morning.  Happy Birthday to Pat and Happy Anniversary to you both.  Enjoy your meal at the Chop House.  We absolutely cannot store trash bins outside.

Good morning, Gloria.  I'm sure your CNA will be busy after having the day off on Monday.

halkel--Good morning.  Still no rain here either.

I am up but my brain is still asleep. I'm glad I am not due to be anywhere today, I would never make it. It is delivery day of my groceries....yay ! I give them a four hour window, so I know I will be "in" from 11 to 3 for delivery. We are having a siege of cool cloudy mornings and I love it. Our high is to be 77......99 in Hemet. I made the right move !

I learned that the employer of highest number of people in Stanton, CA. is Rowntree Gardens, and we have more employees than residents. No wonder I feel so well cared for. And some of our employees have been here for years and years.

Time to make my bed and get myself decent. See you later.

Jackie.  Now over the years I have been sorry not to have bought my aunts cottage when she passed and come back to UK for 1/2 the year.  I do come over often. Use to be 3 months at a time. But like the US was when I came here, UK is not the same now. Things just about alike. I remember growing up that I never saw a coloured person until the age of 16. Now up North it must be 50% asian.  Village still the same but the city where I worked in is  so different.  I get upset on the changes every time I come back there.  Could never drive again.

Doubt that  even Places in the South Of UK that I loved when my mother came down for part the year. I would come and stay. Mostly in Kent. Loved it. Bournmouth also.  I know that people make more money now in the UK. More than in the US now. Pensions higher in UK but goodness how things cost over there. Could never afford to buy a cottage there anymore.
I do like your area.

One more day finished at WM!  It was a pretty good one...lots of smiling people and only one crying baby and it was a tiny one.  It's so hard to know what the tiny ones needs are but I guess his/her mother found it because it stopped.

Happy Anniversary Larry and Pat and Happy Birthday Pat.  Enjoy your special day!

The temp is in the 90s right now.  I left the a/c on set to come on at 80 and it was running when I got home.  The temp inside was exactly 80 and not uncomfortable.

My plan for this afternoon is to get the bills paid...well I WILL get the one that is due tomorrow paid.  I really do not like this part of life.  If my son or daughter would say, "I'll do that for you, Mom."  I'd say a resounding "Hallelujah!!!".  Now before anyone says, "why don't you ask him/her?"  I won't do that!  It's a part of my independence and I'm not about to start giving that up piece by piece.  I'll just sit here and complain and you all can tell me to shut up any time you fell put upon.  Now if someone volunteered to clean for me, I'd give up that part of my independence in a flash!

Shirley, I don't remember if I said I was sure glad to see your post last nigh.  I missed you.  But I couldn't help thinking that I wish I knew how to fix you RV.  I sure could use the money you've been shelling out for it.  Oh well.  I you didn't have that to worry about, you'd have to find something else.  Keep coming by.  Love hearing from you.

Good Afternoon from the hot and sunny,
rocky coast of Maine.

Today was my day out with my Kelly,  Madison,  and Fe  ....

We went to Good will then stopped to get a bite
to eat at an outdoor cafe...

Thery brought us some friend pickles.
I started to eat one (they were spicy)
and started coughing...  The coughing went
on and on  for a few minutes and and I could feel
my throat starting to close!!!!
:yikes:

Holly moley!
Of course,  all hell broke out
until finally my throat started to
relax and the Emergency people
showed up....   and they checked
me out and let me go.

Something in those spicy fried pickles
set me off coughing and all that
goes along with the fear of not being
able to breath...

I could breath and I got over it.
And I did not have to go to the
Emergency Room....  so we brought
all the food home here and ate it.

What a mess..
But I will be more careful in the
future  about what I ingest... and make
sure that I don't take bites that
are too big,  and also to carry a list of
meds that I take (written down)  because
I could not remember any of them.
I was so afraid that I drew a blank.

I am fine,  but I have learned a lesson
that I won't soon forget.

All is well
Sandy

Forgot to tell you earlier, Joan, how much I liked the Pickle Jar story.  Early in our marriage Tom would clean the change out of his pockets and put them in his piggy bank, one that he had since he was a boy.  Starting out a marriage and living on Airman 1st Class pay wasn't easy and several times we had to raid the piggy bank when we needed a little extra money.  It was a habit that he kept all the 60 years of our marriage and in later years the accumulated coins would be rolled and taken to the savings account at the bank.  Many years ago I found a hand shaped piggy bank at a pottery in the sandhills of NC and bought it for him sort of as a little joke.  It still sits on his dresser and once in awhile I'll put some coins in but mostly it just stands empty.  Still it is a nice remembance of hearing him drop coins in it at the end of the day.  I imagine that a lot of us who were raised during the Depression, or shortly after it, have a "pickle jar" somewhere in the house.

Happy celebrations to Larry and his Pat. The dinner plans sound so nice and it is a blessing that your son and you live close enough together now that he can join you.

Hot, hot, hot here, too.  David trimmed about half of the hedge in front of the house and came in just drenched.  I have not even put my nose outside the door and don't intend to!

That was scary, Sandy, and I'm so glad you didn't need to go to the hospital.  It's a good idea to carry a list of meds with you all the time.  You never know......

Janie--All my bills (except 2) are auto-pay so that's not a big chore for me.  My cleaning people really aren't a luxury--they are a necessity.  I just can't breathe well enough to do any heavy cleaning, and I sure don't want to live in a pig pen.

Sandy--Your episode is scary.  Maybe you should carry an EpiPen?

Phyllis--Love your story about piggy banks and especially Tom's.  Nice memories.  It is HOT, HOT, HOT here, too.

Possibly you are correct,  Joan..
I have had minor episodes before  with food and bugs,
but this is the first time it affected my breathing.

I will have to look into it.
In the meantime,  I am going to stick with foods I
know are safe for me.    And try to stay away from

I just must be more aware ..

Our Toby enjoyed his short driving trip out this morning, guess we were out 1 & a half hours but he was very good off lead...Even I walked a bit further, sat down overlooking a farm machine doing its rounds in the field,  and beyond that the views were spectacular.....wish I had taken my camera...

It has been quite hot today, came home, both made ourselves a snack, our preferred salad rolls and I made up the decking furniture, brought out the cushions and we both sat out there for a little while, me soaking up the sun, well I even dozed off when left by myself, then took myself indoors, laid on the sofa, then dozed off again, have no clues as for how long, but I was so so tired, must have been for a good 2 or 3 hours, maybe the sun got to me as I am as red as could be....

Oh and the good news, mail waiting on my doorstep, our " Petplan " Insurance cheque and my Blue Badge were both sitting on the mat,...... thats two more ticks to tick off.....although of course the Petplan will be now ongoing....

Sandy, I hope you are feeling better.  And one my favorite things are fried pickles at the Texas Roadhouse.

Janie, I "try" to pay my bills as the come in so I don't have a stack of them to pay at one time.  Sometimes I have three to pay at one time, but most of the time it is just one at a time.

Back in the olden days  ::)  we let them accumulate until the first and then pay them all at one time.  But not much point anymore.

Vanilla-Jackie--How nice you had an outing with Toby.  You must have been really tired to fall asleep outside and then come in and sleep more on the couch. Glad your PetPlan insurance and badge arrived.

halkel--How come you don't pay your bills via auto-pay?

I have very few bills left anymore. My rent, the Internet are on autopay, and about six or seven various monthly charges are as well. The only cash outlays are groceries and cat paraphernalia. I have an outing coming up on my birthday at the end of the month with friends to one of our local hot springs that I'm saving for and that is about it.

I really don't have many needs anymore as I'm giving and donating more than I'm taking in. I was shopping last week and I already had what we were looking at. I felt a bit disappointed as I used to be such a dedicated shopper, could tell you where and how all the "deals" and sales were set and located. My only real necessities for next payday are a small hand vac and double sided tape. I'm leading such a boring, but so fulfilling life.....

Now if it would just stop raining.

Amy, oh I hope the nurse did turn up in the end,.... that was bad that she never phoned on the day you expected her to phone...

Jane S, I can just imagine you singing at your till at Wally World and getting your many customers joining in.... ;)

Phyllis, we have to stay one step ahead of these scammers, they really dont care who they target, and whether they ruin peoples lives, the are just scum....

Phyllis a few years ago we too decided on picking up coins, or notes if we were lucky, when we were out and about, mainly our old village...We even opened up a Post Office savings account, so at the end of each year we banked up the coins and paid it in...We still have some savings which we haven't touched, not enough to give us much interest, but a nice little added bonus to fall back on...Of course nowadays neither bother to look for or pick up coins....

Larry Hanna, Congratulations to both you and Pat on reaching 54 happy and loving years together.....

Wishing your Pat a happy Birthday....

Jackie, years ago when we used to go to Scotland and northern England I would look for ha'pennies on the ground.  I had heard somewhere that if you  saw a ha'penny and picked it up you would come back to that place.  Since we loved Scotland and the north part of England I would always be looking for them.  I found 3 of them and it must have worked because we made that trip 3 times.  I wish I could have gotten down to your beautiful part of the country but we never did except for a brief layover at Heathrow and we never got out of the airport.   ;)

When I was a child in Sunday school, when we had had a birthday, we brought as many pennies as we were old and put them in a metal piggy bank.  I think this went on as long as I was in Sunday school, however, it may have been only the lower grades.  Anyway, in one of the million catalogs I used to receive was a piggy bank like we had at church and I bought it.  I don't think Ive ever put money in it, but it's a nice memory.

I pay my bills via the bank and take care of them as soon as I receive them, however, I designate a date several days prior to the due date.  So that is taken care of at the time.

It's been a nice day here t oday and we are close to 90 degrees.  I have the air on.

I had my hair cut this morning, then Tom and I went to the restaurant next door for breakfast and I brought half of it home.  This afternoon Tom, his brother Terry and wife, Terry's in-laws, Annie and I met for lunch and I brought half of mine home.  So I have meals for tomorrow in case Tom isn't available.

Now both my daughters had Piggy Banks when little.  Every day their dad came home they would ask for the change in his pocket. Sort of stopped when they got a allowance.
I use to do Silver Dollars and also 2 dollar bills when they were going.  Think I have some around here someplace.
I started putting pennies into a big jar some 40 years ago. That jar sitting under the kitchen sink here just full and some at the bottom are going green with age. I had 5 Grandchildren and for years as they would come here I would tell them  Will you take those pennies and put them in these tubes and you can have them.  They thought I was out of my mine. Even tried on the eldest GGS. No way.  They always got to big a allowance I think. Always had money. I keep meaning to take them to the bank and weigh them.  Must be at least $50 in there by now. Wish they would stop giving them out in change. use to be they had a jar by registers you could drop them in. No more. Technology stopped that.
I also have lots of European money from trips.  Pounds from UK which I can always use but the French, German, Italian and Spanish no good. All use the Euro now.

As children, the three of us each had one big white pig shaped bank. We didn't have an allowance as my folks felt we were family and labor was a part of household life. But, as children, we thought of money making schemes such as mushroom or berry picking, lemonade or cookie sales, babysitting or housecleaning. Of course, there was the yearly dollar in a birthday card from both sets of grandparents.

We hired out to neighbors and friends as often as our parents would allow and raised a fair amount of spending cash. I started "real" employment at fourteen and have worked since then until retirement. Retirement came as a blessing even if a bit cash strapped. But I have a large ceramic milk bottle filled with change and a bank box filled with foreign coins and silver coins, my father gifted each of us.

They are tearing up the old carpet outside in the hallways and Farrah has kept a faithful eye on the door and an  ear fully cocked. She has come a long way from hiding under the bed at any sudden movement or sound.

angelface--I think as we get older our needs greatly reduce.  I like reading how you grew up and how you made $$.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good for you saving those coins all these years.

Phyllis--Wonderful story about you hearing about the ha' penny and going back three times.

Mary Ann--That was a nice tradition of taking pennies for as many years old as you were to Sunday school and then in later years buying a similar bank for yourself.  One thing nice about being a small eater and going out to eat--you can bring the leftovers home for another meal.

JeanneP--Maybe you should consider cashing in some of those coins you have.

HAL  we went to 90° today and I did not go out at all today. Still 82°. Tired of the sound of the AC running.

JOAN  yes she was busy today. For one thing it was laundry day but she still had me laughing. Jeanne Lee did post in the card shoppe/PSP yesterday. Said she might go home today.

Not very talkative today. I am sitting her yawning but better not go to bed this early, not even dark yet.

I have had a busy and tiring day, so I dozed many times and read a third of a book. My eyes are weary.

My groceries arrived early..11:15, the girl at the desk called me to say delivery had arrived, and would I like to have the fellow bring my groceries up. First time that has happened..one more feeling of being taken care of.

Bis, yes we are charged for delivery. If you want it the same day, it costs 12 dollars and 50 cents. With a four hour window I pay half that amount.

My order from Blair also arrived so I did a load of laundry. And got even more tired out.

It now time to think about eating some supper. So, off I go.

I guess we all have our own way of paying the bills.  I have to wait for my SS check to be deposited to do mine.  My utilities and insurance are all on auto pay but anything else, I do on line myself.  The only check I write regularly is to the church on Sunday for my pledge.  It's kind of like the old saying, "Don't judge someone until you walk in his shoes."  We'll always do things our own way.

I was really tired when I got home from work today and I didn't do much of anything for the rest of the day.  And now, I'm off to Dreamland.  Good night Everyfriend!  Sleep peacefully, wake refreshed.  God bless us, Every One!

I hope your day was wonderful and you enjoyed the celebration meal at the Chop House.  Best wishes for many more wonderful years.

Bob ended up getting a root canal today, so is a bit sore tonight.  We were shocked how much it ended up costing..$1,000.00 AFTER what our insurance allowed.  Good grief and they do not think we need a cost of living adjustment?

SANDY, how scary your day turned out to be, for you and your family.  I am sure happy everything turned out OK in the end.

YIPPE, JACKIE. Your day sounded very nice...so glad you got your insurance and the blue placard.

Delays, so I best call it a day and get this posted.

Pleasant dreams to all,

CHUCKLES

The Glass Perspective 2

A friend of mine was a philosophy major during his first semester in college. One day in a seminar class, they spent a great deal of time debating whether the glass was half full or half empty. After the class, my friend was feeling pretty good about himself and what he was learning at university, so when he went home, he tried to continue the discussion with his family.

With maximum drama, he took a 12 ounce glass from the cupboard and poured in
6 ounces of water. Then took it into the dining room and placed it in the middle of the table. He proudly asked his family, "Can anyone tell me whether this glass is half full or half empty." Without missing a beat, his grandmother replied, "Depends if you're drinking or pouring."

Food For Thought

Discipleship Versus Evangelism
(By Andrew Wommack)

Most Christians believe that the primary purpose of salvation is to avoid hell. That may have been what you were taught, but it’s not what the Bible teaches. In fact, that kind of thinking serves to inoculate people from the truth of the Gospel concerning salvation.

If we simply ceased to exist at death and if there was no hell, I still believe that Jesus would have come to earth and died for us. Why? Because salvation is about having a relationship with God. God’s main reason for sending Jesus was to restore fellowship. It just so happens that as we restore our relationship with God through salvation, one of the perksâ€"one of the great benefitsâ€"is that we miss hell and gain heaven.

Nowhere in the Scripture did Jesus tell us to go and make converts. Let’s look at what is commonly referred to as the Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:18-20. It says this:

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus told them to teach others to observe all the things that He had commanded. The Greek word for “teach” in this passage is literally the word that is translated “disciple.” The New International Version translated this as “Go and make disciples.” The emphasis here is that the Lord commanded us to make disciples, not converts. Somewhere along the way, the church has changed the emphasis of this message from making disciples to getting people born again, leaving discipleship for the “mature.”

Did you know that Jesus never preached on being “born again”? In the third chapter of John, He talked to Nicodemus about the spiritual birth compared to the natural birth, but He never taught or preached to the people about being “born again.” You may be asking yourself, “How can Andrew say that? That’s the centerpiece of every evangelistic effort.” You’re rightâ€"it isâ€"but I believe that the Bible teaches that the church has placed the emphasis in the wrong place. By making that the focus, the church is actually lowering the standards, leaving people with the misconception that all they need to do is just be born again and discipleship is optional. That is not what Jesus commanded.

Statistics say that 33 percent of all “born-again Christians” still support things like abortion and New Age thinking. That certainly does not reflect the attitude of a person who’s truly been born again. Billy Graham was quoted as saying that only 15 percent of all the people who professed to be Christian are truly born again...

I am not saying that being born again and living eternally with Jesus is not importantâ€"it’s essential! I’m saying that we have changed the message from the way Jesus taught it...

Jesus said that we are to make disciples, followers of Christ. When we ask people to accept Jesus as their Savior, we need to teach them that this is a total commitment of one’s life to the Lord. It means becoming a disciple of Jesus.

Jesus’ attitude toward evangelism is much different than that of most Christians. Jesus is more concerned with the quality of ministry than the quantity...

When we hear that someone has been born again, we are ready to put them to work, especially if they are public figures with recognizable names. It’s like we are trying to sell a product by associating it with someone famous. That totally violates what Paul said in 1 Timothy 3 concerning placing a novice in a position of authority. These are the kinds of shortcuts believers resort to when they limit the true definition of being born again to a simple confession of Jesus as Lord.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “I would have been a Christian if I hadn’t met one.” Before leading the revolution in India, he was exiled in Africa. There, he was seeking the Lord, reading the New Testament. He had become convinced that Christianity was the true religion and that Jesus was the Christ.

He decided to attend a Presbyterian church service for the purpose of confessing Jesus as his Lord. But, because of the color of his skin, they wouldn’t let him in. Those people who were so determined to evangelize did not have enough of the nature of God on the inside to look past his color. He then led 750 million people into a pagan religion.

On a trip to India some years ago, I learned there were 12,000 Methodists in the city of Ahmedabad, the result of a great revival in the 1890s. When I asked the head of the church in that city how many were truly born again, he responded by saying it was only two or three families. The rest were still worshiping other gods. All they had done was add Jesus to their list of gods to make sure they didn’t miss one. They were obviously not disciples. To those in India, Jesus was just another of the thousands of gods. That is not God’s idea of evangelism.

John 8:30-32 says, "As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

People often say that if you know the truth, the truth will set you free. That is not correct. More correctly, these verses say that when you continue in the Word, then you will know the truth, and the truth you know sets you free. In these verses, Jesus was speaking to those who already believed on Him. Jesus knew that only those who became disciples would truly become free. There is more to believing than just mouthing words.

What we ought to be preaching is that God calls us into discipleship, and it begins with making a commitment to the Lord. If we understood that and acted on it, we would have much greater success evangelizing the world.

Consider thisâ€"if you evangelized 1,000 people per year for fifteen years, you would end up with 15,000 new believers, assuming they were all genuine conversions. If you led 1 person to the Lord every six months and spent the next six months discipling that person so they could reproduce themselves, what do you think would happen? In one year, there would only be 2 disciples. However, after sixteen-and-a-half years, if each continued to reproduce themselves every six months, there would be no one left on earth to evangelize. Jesus’ method of discipleship would produce nearly 7 billion disciples in less than seventeen years. Discipleship evangelism works!

I really believe that the church has missed it in the area of evangelism, making converts and not disciples.

Good Morning Joanie and Everyfriend!  The dogs have been getting me up at about 5:15 or so for some time now.  When we "Fall Back" they'll be right on schedule.   Or am I mixed up about that.  I never seem to get it straight.

We're going to have temps in the 90s by 10 a.m. today and it will last until around 8 or so before it starts back down.  I think a/c days have come to Lewisburg.  It's going to be a HOT moving day for the kids on the 14th.  I was hoping the nice weather would hang around until they got that done.

I'll be off to Wally World again today.  Thursday isn't usually a busy day because it comes between the Wednesday Farmers Market day and Friday which are both always busy.

I hope you all have a lovely day!  Make it a good one whatever you decide to do.

good Thursday noon Joan and Everyfriends....

Weather started off a bit on the grey side, yet dry, at last we now have our sun out.....

Not too long ago I done a down-slope walk with R and Benji, a walk I now enjoy doing, even though my body and legs are weak when I get back...

I have already taken in my prescription diet Benji food, not bad since this is the first time using this online company and I only placed the order yesterday....

Now I am waiting in for Goldhill vegi box delivery, I am hoping to catch our driver today....Not sure what time he drlivers but he came between 12 noon and 3pm last week, we have yet to meet, introduce ourselves....

R is trying to locate electrician who says he often comes onto our site, we at last have bought two ceiling lights, so awaiting someone to install them.....I had previously ordered some very large ( I call the African drum ) shades....but after they had been put up, just a simple screw into job, I found them to be hideous, so they got taken down, not to Rs amusement, even if he doesn't like them, also....but of course too late to send them back, and R is not too happy spending wasted money...

Tomorrow bathroom side panel is to be fitted....

R still waiting on telephone reply from carpet man who will carpet our small office space....In hindsight we should have booked with him there and then, but he left us to ponder on what he wanted us to do...

Joan, that got me laughing...I guess grandpa is not a teetotaller?  ;D ( the glass perspective ).....Think grandpa was hinting for a top-up....

Good morning, Janie.  I always get mixed up about DST and EST, too.  One thing I do know is that I dislike Standard time when it gets dark before supper.  Sure would be nice if it was a bit cooler on the day your kids move.  When I read that I recalled when we moved from NY to Arkansas.  On move-in day in AR it was 103°.  I'd never in my life experienced weather that hot.

Lloyd--Good morning.  You and I differ in our feelings about DST.

Good morning, Amy.  Hope you can stay cool if you MUST i--n.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  I'm so glad to read that you are home.  Get lots of rest.  S & F will be here once you feel better.

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  I think it's GREAT that you are able to continue your walks.   You are getting things checked off your "to do" list quite fast, and I am sure you're glad about that.

Hi everyone.  It looks like we will have another hot day up to 97 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday afternoon we had a thunderstorm and got about a quarter inch of rain.  It was enough that I turned off my sprinkler system for this morning.

This will be my usual Thursday activities or picking up my friend to take to coffee and then after taking him home will go on to the church for the Wisdom group.  I also intend to buy some flowers for Pat's birthday Saturday.

We had a most delicious lunch and good time at the Chop House yesterday. Scott and I had the grilled shrimp and crab cake that came with pasta under the shrimp  We were happy to have Scott go with us. Pat had a ground sirloin with brocolli and mushrooms that had been fixed in a wine sauce.  She really liked the mushrooms. Scott gave us a weather station that measure's the indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity as well as barometric pressure and also forecasts what our weather will be.  It works with a wireless sensor outside and can run on batteries or has an AC Adapter for the inside unit.  As much as the gift was appreciated, it was a joy to see how much he enjoyed giving it to us.  He also gave us a beautiful anniversary card with a very touching personal note inside as well as a nice birthday card for his mother with another touching note inside.

The builder brought in his heavy equipment and is in the process of digging the trenches for the main foundation.  So we will have activity that I can watch as the house is being built.  Our quiet little cul-de-sac won't be so quiet for a few months as the various workmen come and go.

Thanks to each and everyone of you who wished up a happy anniversary and Pat a happy birthday.

Jackie, glad you finally got your blue badge.

Hal, I also pay my bills as they arrive except those that I pay at the beginning of the month.  I do have a few bills that are auto pay but only those that have a set amount each month and that I am notified in advance of any adjustments to the amounts.

Mary Ann, at the church where I grew up we had that little metal piggy bank but both children and adults put their money in at a penny per year.  It was a nice way to let folks know of birthdays and if I remember correctly we always sang Happy Birthday to the birthday people.

Patricia, my sister and I never received an allowance either but the folks almost always could spare a nickel for ice cream or candy when we went to the store, which was usually about once a week.  I did get a small part time job when I was in college that I could do in the hours I would be waiting for my mother to get off work so we could go back to the farm.  When I got old enough to drive and date the folks would give me a few dollars and there was always gas in the car.

AMY  sorry you had to go to the nurse instead of having her come to your home. Sounds heartless since your husband just had the surgery.

HAL  like you I like paying my own bills. I make out my own checks and make sure I go over my bank statements every month.

LLOYD  I always feel bad for those who have to work outside in all kind of weather. The older I get the less I can take hot humid weather.

JOAN  oh boy sticky buns well be so yummy. Leave it to grandma to spoil the young mans lesson. Thank you for today's goodies.

JEANNE LEE  glad you are home again. I don't know anyone who can rest in a hospital. Take care and rest.

Lindancer:  I hope you enjoyed your lunch.

Scams  - I took a call last night and the guy was so friendly sounding, chatting about helping out our homeless veterans and could he put me down for $20.  Next, could it at least be $15 - I told him we give to the Wounded Marine Semper Fi Fund and he said this was for local - I told him no.  My mother always said NO very emphatically, so that is easy for me.  It was a scam.

Sandy:  I hope you get your throat issue checked out - maybe an allergic reaction, maybe not.  Dill pickles are my favorite.  Here, the prices at Goodwill have gone up - prefer to donate and buy from Salvation Army and ARC.  Just saying....

There is a reservation run recycle and trash dump in Montana where the vehicle is weighed both before dumping and after.  However, some people go there and still throw everything in one spot - tainting the outcome and much work for the people taking care of the trash.  Here, we have a bin for recycle picked up every other week (and we can take a load to a special place otherwise) - regular trash is weekly.  Don't forget to give these hard working people a special tip at Christmas.  They do the work we wouldn't want to do in all kinds of weather.

Good Morning Everyone!
Just got back from Church (Men's bible study).  I see everyone is keeping busy and getting things done.  Nothing much more on tap here.  Animal guy coming by at 2 to look into my skunk problem, sprayed my dog the other night.

Everyone have a good afternoon.

Home from work...tired up the gazoo...feet hurt...not hungry any more.

I just finished off the chicken I made with the Campbell's sauce.  it was delicious but it made too much.  If I do it again, I think I'll do it in two casseroles and try freezing one for later.

I have to go now because the sofa is absolutely screaming for me!  I just can't take all that hollering so I'm going to go in there and hush it up.  Have a lovely afternoon.

JOAN  I went out to see if I could walk around a little and I turned around and came back in. No sun shining but it was very humid. We had a storm this afternoon, on TV they said we had about 2 inches of rain. I know I looked out and every thing was dry, went down to the mail room and back up, looked out and couldn't see anything. In the matter or 5 minutes the rain was hitting the windows so all I saw was wet windows.

SANDY  only once when I was at my in-laws summer place in Sacco for a week with them was it so hot that we could not cross the street and go on the beach. Even with sandals on the it was so hot we were burning our feet.

HAL  oh your poor dog, did you make her stay out side?

JANE  hope you had a good rest this afternoon.

Where is everyone.3 hours since Joan last posted and no one since. Maybe I will sleep tonight. After more than 2 hours last nigh of trying to get to sleep I got up and finished a book I was reading. Have a good night everyone.

We don't seem to have the hot
Summer this year that we have had in the past.
Of course the Summer is not over yet,  and
things could change.

Unfortunately,  it has been a very dry Summer
and not that great for gardening which requires a
lot of watering..

Gloria, can't find another with the bedroom door... not in this price bracket & size.  I am
waiting for answers from Ford, the tire people insist Ford put the tires on & at fault &
they only replaced same type.  That makes sense if they thought the stems were wrong,
doesn't it?  Where is common sense these days?  Stay cool~

JaneS, I certainly thought when I bought this new RV that would end all the expense
since everything would be under warranty.  Wrong!  My little Rialta was 16 years old so
I was convinced it would be in a constant need of repairs & replacement, this RV was
supposed to end all those problems plus more room for cats.

Jeanne Lee, a special welcome home to you.  Hope you get back to your peppy self quick.
Sounds like you got very good care.

Hal, I can't imagine a worst happening that skunk spray on your best friend in this heat.  So
whose car took the pup to the groomers?   ::)

Heat index 108 again today, that rain created a fine steam bath for Kansas!  I never did hear
how many inches we got this past week, more than I've seen in the 30 years at this house.

Not a good day for me. Took a fall in the Apt...nothing bad happened, just my pride is angered. I had three people from the clinic in my door inside of minutes. I was already up and sitting in my recliner, but the nurse took my B.P. and pulse anyway...all was good.

I'm feeling a bit weary tonight and some sore areas...nothing serious, just ready for an early bed. See you all on the morrow, hugs, Love and Prayers, June

Bedtime but had a nap so got things to do... like laundry.  So happy to see you, Sun, have missed you.  Takes longer to jump back that it did 50 years ago, right?  Can you believe we are getting old?  This is not what I expected, how about you?  Somehow my DNA doesn't lean to being the dignified little old lady I pictured becoming.   :crazy2:  Take it easy, we need your sense of humor in here.  :bravo: :cheer:

Oh, so sorry, June!  Don't let your pride get in the way.... we fell when we were young & didn't think anything about it, right?  I am so impressed with the care you get there....  so much to do.  Glad your BP was good, those meds are to gear you down so have to be more careful to not rush.  I used to tell my husband that "he needed to go along with the slower life and they should have done a lobotomy to adjust his brain to go with the body."  Hope you aren't too sore tomorrow.   :bestwishes:

Amy, never heard that one before..." Every now and then you will hear a tree whistle for a dog to come by...." obviously every time a dog cocks its leg, is a welcome drop of water.... ;D

Good early Friday morning.....

We might have ourselves a busy day ahead, re, several different workmen, could all turn up together....The plumber, to fit our new wooden bath panel, the carpet man to lay the office carpet, and the electrician to put up our living room ceiling lights...our bathroom and office are side by side of our long corridor.....We will have our workload cut out, we are to disconnect the computer and move the rather large and heavy office table out of the room before carpet man arrives....we are not even sure it will fit out through the door.....R will then have to set up the computer again, as long as he knows which cables and connections go where, but your guesses are as good as mine....If you dont see me posting in here, you will know why, let us just hope it doesn't come to that, otherwise I wont be a happy bunny....Things wont be happening till afternoon so I shall be in to make further postings, if all goes to plan, depends on how early R wants to make a start with his dismantlings and movings....

Sun, welcome back, its sure good to see a post from you this morning....

Shirley, saying a good morning or a goodnight to you....we both posted at the same time....Ha ha, old age is only for those without good health and money to enjoy life with, to the full....

Junedrabek, even if we consider a fall not a bad fall, it still hurts our pride, doesn't it? I have now got a beautiful " shiner " of a bruise on the outside of my lower good leg, from the night-time fall I took last week.......I am so glad you are in a place where help soon arrives, as and when needed....

Halkel, thank heavens we dont have skunk problems here in UK, we dont even have skunks, never even seen one in a zoo, let alone smell one....  :o

CHUCKLES

Stolen License Plate

When my wife and I were vacationing in the eastern part of our state, our car's license plate was stolen. We planned to go to a local office for a replacement, but then we discovered that our registration had expired. The new one was at home in a pile of mail. After much thought, we came up with a solution. Taping a sign over the empty license plate space on the rear of the vehicle, we made the eight-hour trip home safely. Not a single state trooper stopped us, but many passing motorists took great pains to honk and wave at us.

Our sign read "Just Married!"

Food For Thought

Distractions of Modern Civilization
(By A.W. Tozer in "Of God and Men")

"Modern civilization is so complex as to make the devotional life all but impossible. It wears us out by multiplying distractions and beats us down destroying our solitude, where otherwise we might drink and renew our strength, before going out to face the world again. "The thoughtful soul to solitude retires," said the poet of other and quieter times; but where is the solitude to which we can retire today? "Commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still," is a wise and healing counsel; but how can it be followed in this day of the newspaper, the telephone, the radio and television? These modern playthings, like pet tiger cubs, have grown so large and dangerous that they threaten to devour us all. What was intended to be a blessing has become a positive curse. No spot is now safe from the world's intrusion. The need for solitude and quietness was never greater than it is today. What the world will do about it is their problem. Apparently the masses want it the way it is, and the majority of Christians are so completely conformed to this present age that they, too, want things the way they are. They may be annoyed a bit by the clamor and by the goldfish-bowl existence they live, but apparently they are not annoyed enough to do anything about it."

Joan, not sure how its going to pan out as plumber gave us 11.am'ish its just turned, carpet man phoned this morning said it will be a late afternoon, electrician still hasnt shown, but were told he will be on site today, we have yet to to meet him, but he is aware its light fittings....In the midst of all this R is still planning on going out to do a usual Friday shop...not sure it is sinking in that we both have to clear the office of furniture before his arrival,( and the office table stands on four solid thick metal legs,...) so not knowing what time he will be here, R will be taking a risk, but there is no telling R....R does what R wants to do, and if that means he is out when he comes and its left to me..... ::)

Ha ha, we have only just opened up our boxed ceiling lights and done a quick check, nothing damaged or broken...

Been on our tv news about the five police officers shootings in Dallas...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "Good Morning" to you Joanie.  Thanks for the goodies today.  I loved the chuckle!

Oh my goodness!  Sun is back!  We sure did miss you while you were gone!

And June!  Don't be embarrassed by falling!  We all do it!  I wasn't paying attention one day and tripped over Mickie in the dark hall.  Fortunately, I didn't hit anything on the way down, it was carpet and Mickie scooted so I didn't fall on her.  I remember thinking, "I'm sure glad none of the kids saw that or they'd think I've become a KLUTZ in my old age".  I've learned to turn on the hall light as soon as the hall begins to darken.

I'll be off to WM to meet my public this morning.  And, hopefully, it will be raining when I come home.  The weather prediction is that it will begin around noon and showers will continue off and on until around 8 p.m.  That would be very good!  Everything is getting dry. On the plus side of that, I haven't had to pay for grass cutting for 3 weeks now.

Shirley, sometimes we just don't get what we expect.  My VW Golf is in it's 17th year now (I bought it in May of 2000) and if I divided all the expenses by 16 it would have cost me under $100 a year to run.  Not so bad!  I hope you soon get all your problems resolved and you can enjoy your travels.

Amy, I hope all goes well for you and hubby today!  It's about time things mesh for you.  I also wish you a nice thunderstorm!

I wish Everyfriend a lovely day filled with everything you love!  Enjoy!

Well now almost 12 noon, no sign as yet of Plumber, he is now one hour late......Electrician just left after popping in to see us for the first time, he is off to work on another job, cant fit us in till next Tuesday, says is 8.15 am alright, I said yes, it is with me, not sure it is with R.....anyway 8.15 it is..........Think now might be the time to disconnect our computer, move the heavy office desk out, just hope we can get it out through the door, its going to be a tight squeeze, I took measurements yesterday...guess that's why previous home owners left that behind for us....Think R is just itching to get out and do his shop, of course his shop usually takes him ages, knowing my luck, carpet man will turn up earlier than expected...He also has to saw off some door underneath...

Jackie-Vanilla--You sure have many things to coordinate.  I know you will be glad when all the work is done.

Good morning Amy.  We need rain here desperately, too.  I hope your trip today will be the end of having to run back and forth.

Janie--Good morning.  Glad you liked the chuckle.  Guess we've all fallen a time or two.  A couple days ago I dropped some pills on the floor.  When I bent over to get them I fell on my butt and couldn't get up from that position.  I had to scooch over to the computer chair and use that to pull myself up.  Not a pretty site.:)

Good morning everyone, turned the TV on and heard about the shooting in Dallas. Sure a lot of crazy people in the world today. What happened to the life we had in our country. So much violence every place these days. Sure glad I do not live in a big city but even small towns are having crimes these days. So sad. Woke  after a good night's sleep and now wish I had not turned the TV on. It was foggy over night and still pretty foggy.

JANE  wish I could get Jag, that was one program I enjoyed, even the reruns, good cast, too.

AMY  sad that the medical profession these days does not do things to make it easy for patients and their families. Hope today is better for your husband and you.

SHIRLEY  sure is frustrating when you purchase something in good faith and then find it is not half as good as they claim it is. You have had nothing but problems with that RV like me with this PC. Wish I could trade this for a different one. The storm we had yesterday did not lower the humidity, made it worse.

SUN welcome back. So good seeing you this morning. Taking a long time for your hand to heal. Just seeing you say hello lets us know you are OK.

HAL  how many cans of air freshener did it take to get the smell out of the house and your wife's car?

JUNE  glad you did not get hurt when you fell. Please be careful. We want you to enjoy your home for years to come.

SHIRLEY  had to laugh at you telling your husband he gear down. That you do not apply to yourself. You are always into doing something. Time for you to gear down. Take out your easel and paints, a canvas and start painting again.

JACKIE  good luck with all those workmen showing up at the same time. They would be in each others way. Oh you do not want to get the smell of skunk, terrible.

JOAN  for all the years Toaster Strudel has been around I never had one. Maybe I should actually buy some to have a taste?  Of course I love cherry. Smart  way to cover a missing license plate. Who would want to pull a car over with that showing on the back. Food for Thought is so true. Nothing around us is quiet. Even at night all the electronics we have with their lights that never go off there is never real darkness any more. When asked why they are moving into the boonies in Arizona my daughter tells those who ask â€" to get away from the rat race and have peace and quiet. They can hear a car coming from miles away but then they have jets flying over pretty low at times. No escaping. Good quote. Reminds me of watching a video by Bob Ross, he has said while doing a painting, “there is no mistakes, just happy accidents.” Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  the thunder storm we had yesterday did not clear the air at all, made it worse. Good luck today with the medical visit.

JANE  how many articles have you read about those of us “of a certain age” should never try walking in the dark? Of course if I left the shades up at night I would never have to turn a light on. So many lights on the front of this building and in the parking lot it is almost as bright as daylight in here. This area had the most rain in the state with yesterday's storm. Had over 2 inches of it. II had my Chevy Corsica for 20 years before the under carriage started rusting away. Nothing wrong with the engine or the body. Other that tires and battery I never spent much on that car.

JOAN  with my shoulders the way they are I doubt I could pull myself up if I fell.

Good morning, Gloria.  The incidents in Dallas are tragic.  When Regina and her husband move, they will at least get away from big city hassle.  I remember Bob Ross saying that many times.  I guess if I fell and could not get up I'd have to use my Lifeline button.

I've been in touch with my daughter who lives in the Dallas suburbs and works in Dallas.  She said that it was a protest of some kind involving police and that since she's not a cop, she's safe.  I told her to make sure she's not an "innocent victim in the line of fire".  She also said that she doesn't go that far downtown.  I breathed a sigh of relief and a Thank You Go!

Hi everyone.  We are headed back up to 100 degrees this afternoon.  Nothing on the schedule for today so will just take it easy.  However, Pat just mentioned that we need to go to a fruit stand and get some of the fresh South Carolina peaches so we will do this after she eats her breakfast.

Three of the four little birds left the nest as of this morning and I expect the other one will by tomorrow morning.

Jackie and Joan, we had two houses built next to us since we moved here and the noise wasn't bad.  This new house is across the street and down just a bit.  The nice thing is I can see what is going on whereas with the houses next to me I couldn't see unless I went on my porch. It is almost impossible to get the computer cables wrong as they are different shapes and some are color coded.

Carol, I will not donate via a phone call.

Sun, so glad to see your message appear.  You have been missed.

Hal, good thinking to put the smelly dog in your wife's car.   ;D ;D

June, sure hope you will not be feeling the bad effect of your fall.

Shirley, you wouldn't be half as interesting if you had become the "dignified little old lady".  I like you just as you are and you are an inspiration as are many others who post here.

Jackie, the shootings in Dallas are despicable. It is our right as citizens to peacefully protest but this is plain murder and is occurring much too often.

Gloria, I am with you in being glad I don't live in a big city or population area anymore.  They print the police blotter in our North Augusta newspaper and most often it is about DUI's or shop lifting.  However, Augusta does have quite a bit of crime and has had several shooting and  murders since we moved here.

Good Morning all, I was awakened early today by a light knock on my door. The cutest little nurse was here to take my pulse and blood pressure. All because I fell yesterday. I don't know what country she is from, but she has darker skin, Her head was wrapped in a lovely pink scarf, she was tiny and slender and pretty. And I told her so. She was so pleased. Then I dozed off again till 7 when my house keeper arrived…..time to have the bed changed for the week, and she will return later to clean the bathroom. So I figured I may as well get the
"show on the road".

Tisie, thank you for thinking of me. I know I should slow down, my brain knows it, but the body still has a mind of it's own. I feel fine, not too sore, one tiny bruise where my hip bone took the brunt of the fall. I have orders to USE THE WALKER at all times, even to cross the floor. So I will obey. As I lay on the floor, my thought was, June, how would you like a broken hip, so that will stick with me while I learn to act my age.

Jackie, this Life Line they have us wear constantly, records downstairs at the clinic, so if you knock yourself unconscious they are still aware you have fallen. They surely do take good care of us here.

Bis, another lesson learned……use the walker ! I'm O.K., thanks be to God. Thank you dear.

Amy, I am praying that you will get good news today. It is no easy on DH having to travel when he doesn't feel well, and you suffer right along with him. God Bless you both.

Sun, I am so very happy to see you posting again, and I pray your hands are healing very well. You have been very patient, and we have missed you so much. I am sending you big hugs.

Janie, may you have an easy day at WM., and may the customers bring you some big smiles in return for all those you give away. The Nurse is obliged to notify Gary when I do something dumb like falling, so I had a nice concerned call from him…..while I was downstairs playing volleyball…..chair volleyball that is. I think it made him happy to know I recovered that quickly.

Bis, when I am on the floor, I roll over to my hands and knees and then push myself up. I think you would find it easier to crawl than to scootch.  I think !! I could be wrong. We are all built differently.

We are having another cloudy morning which I love. Sun comes popping up around noon, till them I have my windows opened to the cool air. My neighbor depends on her A/C, but I prefer the outside air as long as possible.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just back from the eye doctor.  Had a field vision test and will have an appointment in August to get results.  Not much they can do anyhow with Glaucoma. I am getting more like June, at our age I am no sure test do much of anything but line the doc's pocket and inconvenience us.

June, please do be careful.  You got lucky this time, next time it could be a hip or something else.  Man in our bible study just took a fall in his garage and broke his hip.

Jackie, hope everyone gets their job done right and gets out of your hair.

Amy, hope hubby is doing okay.

Now when you moved into this new house did you expect that it needed so much doing to it. Seems it has been going on for 2 months.  You must have more patience. I can't stand things torn up anymore. O.K on doing on the outside but not indoors. I keep thinking I should move but would have to be in perfect condition before I moved in.
I am really good doing most construction. My father taught me a lot and I worked in around it for 20 years. Hard to watch the men doing anything now. So slow. Don't show up to time. Do a half arse job when they come. Hope you get through soon. Enjoy some summer.

June--IF I can't get up again, I'll try your method.  PLEASE do use your walker.  You sure don't want to break a hip and end up in rehab.

halkel--I'm due to have my eyes examined, but have been procrastinating.  I've been watching ABC, and they've had several Special Reports about the Dallas shootings.

JeanneP--I am no handyman/woman so have no choice but to call workmen for needed repairs.

All is back to normal......Bath panel fitter came an hour late....unknown to us who put in the wrong coloured bath panel, before we had chance to see it, as I was with the dogs, trying to quieten Toby....The panel is fine, just a darker grained wood....The son was the one who fitted it, his father popped by an hour ago to inspect work and to offer us some money off but, instead he done us a favour as the bathroom carpet was now causing the door to scrape over it and needed some sawing from underneath, as the plumber company also do maintenance work he offered to take the door off its hinges, took it outside the front, sawed some off, then refitted it, now it glides perfectly over the new carpet.....he didnt charge us anything for doing it....As for the today's office carpet, we only had that fitted because there was more than enough carpet left over from the bathroom, it made sense to make use of it....
We now have new fitted carpet in the office, at last that stops me whizzing back in our office chair...frit the living daylights out of Benji once, he was behind me, so when I went to sit down, the office chair zoomed back with me just about on it....I always thought, one day this chair will go without me....

Jeanne P, just one more thing needs doing and that are the living room ceiling lights, they will get done Tuesday.....Oh no, we wasn't expecting so much work to be done when we took over this home, what with the outside wall dampness work, and repainting using the correct parkhome paint, then there was the bathroom flooding, of which we got plumber to put in a brand new shower in my en-suite....Without the flooding I wouldn't have gotten that, nor the new bath panel, the white old plastic panel was already split, this wooden one is solid.....

Junedrabek, just a question but, how does your " lifeline.." differentiate between a fall and, if I remember you once telling us that you daily get yourself down on the floor and get yourself up again, just so that you know if you fall you can do it....Just wondering how the " lifeline " would know the difference of you down on the floor or falling down on the floor...does it pick up on speed?.... Hope this doesn't come across as a daft question.... :-[

Vanilla-Jackie--Finally you are seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel" with getting all the scheduled work completed.  Once those ceiling lights are installed seems you should be done.

Joan, yes hopefully in the home but.....I have a few personal things now to tick off.....I still need to find and settle into a church.....I need to book my annual eyes testing, more important now I have MS, and I am now overdue......And of course my hospital urinary bleed is next Wednesday, I really have no Idea of where this is going to lead....
I would like to say after all that we can all get on with our lives, relax and all enjoy ourselves but our Benji still has cancer....not a cancer we can sort....

A Friday HELLO from Vail Colorado.  I am sitting on the deck of our sons home listening to the stream and enjoying the cool air.  We drove up this morning.  We planned to be here Sunday or Monday after Lola Dog went home to her family, however Vail Son's dog sitter seems to have left the earth and he was in dire need for care taker as he and grandson's we leaving for a yearly camping trip and the doggies are not included.  Once again, GrandBob and Nana to the rescue !  No complaints....it is just beautiful here and the doggies all get along, so we hope to make it a restful/enjoyable time.

Bob's root canal went fine and he has had a minimal amount of pain.  Daytime is good, but it gets to bothering him in the middle of the night.

JEANNE LEE, so good to read that you are home.  Take it easy and enjoy the sofa.

JACKIE, I am sure happy to see that things did get accomplished today and it did not become a problem for you with the Internet!   The mamma that owns this house is in London right now but will fly back sometime on Saturday.  Sure wish I were with her and we could meet up again!

JUNE, sorry to read about you fall but so happy you got help right away and did not hurt yourself too badly.

AMY, I have continued good thoughts and prayers for you and DH.  Glad that you liked the medical person and we're pleased with everything, but still sad that you had to drive to them!

SHIRLEY, I am so sorry for all the problems that you new motor coach has caused you...it is absolutely ridiculous the issues you have had to deal with.

SUN, how wonderful it is to see your post...we have all missed you and looked forward to your return.

Hubby is ready to go get us a bite to eat and I can not resist...we will go to our favorite German Resturant for some of their " low calorie" food!  I always have Schnitzel  and of course a nice German Bier!  It is rather expensive at night and we love to sit out on the patio area, so lunch time is our favorite time to go.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND.  Thank you for the last 2 days of goodies, JOAN.

Jackie-Vanilla--Now that you have most of the necessary work done to your home, you can concentrate on getting your medical appointments taken care of.  And you also can give Benji lots of loving.

Jenny--You and Bob enjoy your time in Vail while you are dog sitting.  Glad Bob's root canal went well.  Wasn't he given anything for pain?  Enjoy your German meal.

Our lunch was WONDERFUL! I was able to ride around in my cart and enjoy the views.  Now we're are back home and I feel like I could use a nap!

JOAN, they just told him to take ibuprofen and it takes the edge off for him.  He probably should take more than he is taking but he doesn't want to.  I think the night pain is associated with dry mouth from open mouth sleeping...

JACKIE, I sure would like to take you up on that offer to visit!  If only!  Maybe some day.  I am sure we would love it and would not want to leave.

JOAN  I still watch Bob Toss on local PBS on Friday at 8. Just turned that channel on. Tonight he is doing a painting of the northern lights.

JANE  I imagine you were worried about your daughter in Dallas. When I hear about another shooting or stabbing in Providence I think about how different it is now than when I lived there.

LARRY  we have a few peach orchards here and the farm I like always has some local peaches, much tastier than those in markets. With so many new people in this town at times there is news that I am surprised happens here. Even this quiet town has built up a lot since I moved here 65 years ago.

AMY  are you finished with gong to see the nurse yet? Hope you hubby is doing better now. Like you, about the only time I get out is to the doctor or the dentist although I am invited to my great grandson's first birthday party.

JUNE  I take very few steps without my rollator and if I do I make sure I have something to hold on to. I sure do not want to fall.

HAL  what is a field vision test? Never hear that before.  I am sure it is not going outside and looking around a field.

JACKIE  that happened to me once, went to sit on the computer chair and with wood floors it moved and I sat on the floor. My some was upstairs and had to pick me up. Now when I go to sit in that chair I make sure I am holding onto both arm rests.

JENNY  sounds like a little bit of heaven at your son's Vail home. I would enjoy sitting there in the peace and quiet and listening to that steam running by.

Nice and cool tonight no AC running just the fan in the bedroom window. Should sleep good tonight and I hope all of you do, too.

Oh, GLORIA, I sure wish you could be here....the mountain sides are spectacular.  Everything is so green.  There is a waterfall across the street and at night you can hear it from the bedroom...so peaceful.    Right now I have a blanket wrapped around me...when the sun goes behind the peaks it turns chilly FAST.  I think you would ðŸ'— being here!  We sure do and it is just less than 2 hours from our home.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Gloria, they sit you in a chair with you chin on a rest with one eye covered and stare at a little light in the center of a white background and small lights flash randomly in the white background and when you see one of these lights flash you press a small device you hold in your hand.  Then they repeat the process for he other eye.  Suppose to show where you are losing peripheral.  Like a game.

Went out to cracker barrel for supper tonight with my oldest, it was good.  Meat loaf for me.  Anyhow, off to bed.  Nite, nite, God Bless.

I have had such a lazy, quiet day, I am bored with myself. Finished another book, and my eyes are saying, "enough all ready".

Hal I had maybe four of those field of vision tests. I thought they were a waste of time and money. The best thing I did for my eyes was to have the cataracts removed, and I still do well with no glasses, except for fine print. I feel there is too much testing done on us in most all areas of our bodies. Unless we are in real pain or other uncontrolled things, I prefer to let nature have it's way with me. Of course I have had 91 years to arrive at this conclusion, but I feel God has measured out what He wants for us, so I will enjoy life day by day.

Bis, I have learned ! This body is telling me, USE YOUR WALKER !! And I am and I will. I am tired of hospitalization, so will act my age. Still intend to dance with my walker though.

Jackie, when I lie down on the floor, I get down on my hands and knees, and slowly turn over on my back and lay straight, then turn back to hands and knees, give a push with hands and stand up. It works for me.

I just had a surprise visit from my dearest Dori. What a delight it was to have her here. She had purchased a new matching frame for one of my pictures, and she brought a hanger for my Calendar by my desk. She sees things that need doing and she jumps right in and does them for me. What a blessing she is.

Time for me to rest. If I don't get back, have a peaceful night. I'm sending Love, Hugs and prayers to all. June

CHUCKLES

Window Seats

At the airport check-in counter, a man overheard a woman ask for window seats for both herself and her husband. The clerk pointed out that this would prevent them from sitting together.

"Sweetie," the woman replied, "I've just spent 10 days of quality time in a compact rental car with this man. I know what I'm requesting!"

Food For Thought

One Soul At a Time
(By Rev. Eric McGrath)

Believers have a mission,
And it's very clear to see,
That we don't have to look that far,
Or travel over land and sea.
There's a mission field outside our door,
Just waiting to hear from you and me.
We're called to take our land back,
One soul at a time.

Some people think that government,
It's their responsibility.
Or else it belongs to the school,
To set our morality.
But the Lord has another plan,
And it involves you and me.
We're called to take our land back,
One soul at a time.

Only Jesus can provide the hope,
That this land needs so bad.
At one time there were lots of folks,
Deep faith in God they had.
But times sure are different now,
They call for all of us to stand.
We're called to take our land back,
One soul at a time.

One soul at a time,
Is the plan that Jesus gave.
He called us when He left our world,
Gave us victory o'er the grave.
It wasn't neon lights and glitter,
But the good old gospel saves.
We're to take our land back,
One soul at a time.

Good morning.

Had a dandy storm over night and I woke to the sound of more thunder and rain  Now I have to go around and set all the clocks,a small price to pay for all this wonderful rain!!

Hal,thank you, he seems to be doing alright..just taking it one day at a time.

Jenny, that does sound like a beautiful spot to be in...will grab a few quilts and join you.

June, everyone needs a lazy day now and then. Once my "chores" get done this morning my day is going to be a lazy one. I hope to finish all the flying geese I am doing for a quilt.

Jackie, good morning.Enjoy your day..

Gloria, yes we are finished, so far so good here now and I hope it stays that way. He has to go to another Dr. on the 12th for a different matter. Never ending here.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi everyone.  We are in for another 100 degree day if not higher.  Yesterday afternoon our new weather station showed it was 106 degrees on the back patio and that is in the shade.  We did go out yesterday morning and got some fresh South Carolina peaches from a farm stand several miles from us.  Yesterday afternoon I moved our insurance package to COSTCO insurance  It was not a big savings but over $100 so felt it was worth doing.  That was about it for yesterday. My plan for today is to get our main meal for the day at noontime so that Pat doesn't have to cook on her birthday.  I will make a quick stop at Aldi's as there is a small appliance they have that Pat would like to have to chop up vegetables.  I plan on staying in where it is cool the rest of the day.

Joan, the fourth of the little birds had left the next by about 10 am yesterday.  I guess it was just a bit timid about that solo flight.  There is no sign of them at the nest this morning and no mess to clean up from them.  There is another next at the other end of the porch and there is one baby bird still in it and think only one hatched in that nest.

Amy, glad your husband was able to go through with his appointment even if the power was off.    I see you did have a storm last evening.  Hope you are able to enjoy a lazy day today.

June, it sounds like a good thing for you to do to always use your walker. That is a good Life Line feature that isn't available on the one that Stacey and Scott's wife used.  Glad you are getting such good care.

Hal, I have the same thought about whether some of the medical appointments are really necessary.  However, they want us to stay as well as possible and detect problems or changes as quickly as possible.  I fear that this police shooting situation is just going to escalate and attacks on innocent white skinned people.  This constant news coverage of these situations with the same thing played over and over cannot be a good thing.

Jackie, even though the bath panel wasn't the color you had ordered it sounds like you will be pleased with it.  Nice the installer was willing to cut the door off for you as compensation for the mistake.  Were you able to move the big desk for the carpet installation?  I use an office chair with arms on it to prevent having the chair slide out from under me.

Jenny, that must be tough duty having to dog sit in Vail.  :)  Years ago we went to Colorado for a vacation and spent one night in Vail.  It was summer but so comfortable up there.  I do remember there was no TV in the unit we stayed in. Glad that root canal is behind Bob and there is minimal pain.  We also prefer to eat out at noontime and avoid the larger portions and larger prices at night.

Gloria, tree ripened fruit is so much better than most bought in the stores.  However, some stores do purchase produce grown in the area.

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, like Joanie, wish we could get a nice rain shower.  And like Larry our temp are right at 100 degrees and no relief in site.   But that is normal in Texas in the summer.  That old summertime high just moves in and sits on us, which gave you that nice rain.

Ah, Joanie, you poem this morning.  If only we would practice what was given, one soul at a time.

Nothing planned today.  Stay in under the a/c and watch some TV.

Jackie, pet the pup for me.

Larry, don't know what the outcome of all this will be.  I heard some of an interview Jesse Jackson gave to BBC yesterday, he, of course, blamed Donald Trump for all the problems.  Go figure.  No one, it seems, just wants to live their life and let others live there's.  I saw an ad on TV yesterday about some company that can find all kinds of free things.  People, I guess, actually believe things can be free.  Sigh.

Where's Janie?  I hope she is OK.

Good morning, Larry.  Usually there are a couple nests by my house, and I love to watch them,  his year, however, I haven't seen a single one.  Weatherguesser this morning said this is the 19th consecutive day of above average temp and humidity.  Happy Birthday to Pat.

halkel--Good morning.  Weather here same as yours.  I'm not going out--that's for sure.

Good morning everyone,  a gloomy day here, expecting rain on and off all week end. Oh well they cannot all be good and like many areas we need the rain.

JUNEE  there are many here who use the rolators and one who needs to use hers but her pride stops her from using it. Foolish. A nice fresh local peach is so good.

JENNY  oh boy you make me long to be where you are right now. Looks like a place where you and Bob can have a good rest there after all the baby sitting you have been doing. Any pictures? You know me and those are the only way I can travel these days. When my daughter and her family took me to Arizona I could not see enough of the wide open spaces and forests and mountains. Good memories. Glad I took a lot of pictures, especially of Sedona.

HAL  I have had that eye test but never know what it was called.

JUNE  it has been years since I fell and even then I could not get myself up.

JOAN  Window Seats sure brought a chuckle from me. One Soul at a Time is a keeper. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  my prayers with your DH and you that you have a break from doctors and driving so much.

LARRY  with your temperature if I had to go out for anything it would be early then home to stay where it is cooler. I loved going to my favorite farm for fresh produce in season. That fresh always tastes better.

HAL  I would not believe anything Jesse Jackson says.

Good Saturday afternoon......our today weather is dry and cooler with less sun, but for me, very pleasant... just a nice off jacket, yet sleeved cardigan weather.....On my suggestion we took both dogs in the car towards Weymouth beach, to a country park cum, tourist attraction which covers about everything....this place is called Lodmoor Country park...only you wouldn't know the place was there almost opposite side of the road a very picturesque woodland type dog walk, the main part is a tourist attraction which has just about everything suitable for family with children....sealife, go -karts....surprising just how much is going on....We had a very enjoyable 1 & a half hours there...For the first time we used my Blue Badge, displaying it on the car dashboard.....The disabled car parking is near tp the main family entertainment opening, we had to walk a bit outside then round a corner to the opening of the vast wooded area, no disabled parking bays were there, but my walking was not so bad, in fact both myself and Benji ( R kept Benji and Toby on lead ) done quite a walk, before turning back before e got ourselves lost....we just kept to the path...this is a walk we will do again....I had my trusted rollator with me this time, although I could have managed with just my stick today....The rollators basket is handy for carrying camera....I took some photos and as soon as the camera battery recharges I shall post a " photopeach " clip....link....

It's Sat. morning, cloudy and cool. Had a great sleep, woke feeling new and refreshed. At 2:30 a.m. I was awakened by my pretty nurse to take a b.p. check. Went right back to sleep till 7 a.m. At 8:30 I was about to eat my breakfast, and another nurse came in to do a b.p. check…they both read about the same…mid 150's, which is a good reading for me.

Junee, you are very wise my friend…if we don't fall, we don't have to find a way to stand up. I will keep that in mind. I'm so glad you had the opportunity to come to America and meet some of our dear friends here. I have never been a "traveler", so have missed out seeing face to face those of you I live with here every day.  I do love your Avatar Junee.

Amy, I'm glad you are taking a day off. God gave you a good opportunity to do for YOU for a change, rain is essential. Flying geese sounds beautiful. Something to dream about.

Larry, I hope Pat has a very happy Birthday, and I'm sure she will, you are a very thoughtful husband, and friend to many. I think the walker will be a close friend for the rest of my life. I have no warning that I am going to fall…it just happens, but will be hard to do while grasping the handles of the walker. With four wheels, the Walker is pretty stationary.

Time to move my bones around and get the bed made, etc. See you later. June

Oh yes we kept to the path, the path led off in some different directions further on, I was hoping the path we were on was a circular walk, although doubt I would have made it that far if the circle had been too wide....

Sandy, I make up easy pizza crusts ahead of time and freeze them. Then you can make your own  with individual toppings. I had one yesterday with sausage, gorgonzola cheese. orange and red peppers and cherry tomatoes. If you also make some condiments ahead of time and freeze them, you can make mini pizzas anytime and know what's and what's not in them such as extra sugar, salt, and various chemicals.

angelface--You are much more ambitious than I am.

Joan, it is not so much ambitious as lazy.  ;)  I spend a couple of hours once or twice a month, freeze in one or two cup servings and meals are a simple matter of picking one or two frozen items and assembling dinner in less than twenty minutes. Many types of meat can cook overnight in the slow cooker, toss out skin and bones in the morning and you have several cups of meat.

Butter, milk, eggs and cheese can all be frozen.

Angelface--I guess we just have different ways of preparing meals.[/size]

We have had another beautiful day in Stanton. Nice clean fresh breezes. Got a few chores done, like returning and picking up a fresh supply of books, and ordering another card of vitamins from our clinic, having a great lunch with new friends and taking half of it home for supper tonight. Of course a good long nap, writing a check for church tomorrow, and tonight I intend to go down for a program, The Golden Classics. It's an Andre Riu DVD.

JOAN  I always enjoy your morning posts.

JACKIE  glad you had a good day. You were smart to take your rollator.

JANE hope you felt mentally better as the day went on.

JACKIE  glad you had a good time at that park.

PATRICIA  I used to make all my own TV meals but nave not got the strength to do it anymore. How do you freeze eggs? I have often wonder if they could be frozen.

Tonight will need a blanket on the bed, no fan either. It is pretty cool and very damp.
Have a good night.

Gloria, I too wondered about freezing eggs, so I googled it. Yes, you can  but I think it is not for me. I do not have freezer space .

I make 2 different egg casseroles that I freeze and I make up my own egg McMuffin and freeze them.

Gloria, I do feel a bit better after having worked out some things today.  And after a few hugs from family and friends.  Thank you for asking.

I'm going to be off to bed a bit early tonight so I'll say...

Good Night Everyfriend.  Sweet dreams pursue you and may God bless us every one!

We have enjoyed another very nice day, looking at the views and playing with the dogs. They love the back yard area and so do we.  The sound of the water rushing down Gore Creek has me so relaxed.

Went for a drive around 2PM and stopped for a bite to eat.  Nothing heavy like German Food us today!  😪

AMY, I wish you could gather several of your beautiful quilts and EVERYFRIED could come and join us.

JACKIE, I am not able to view your video on my iPad, so I will have to wait until I get home.  Sure sounded like a lovely walk.  Happy for you and so happy Benji is doing so well.

JANIE, I am sorry your day did not start out too well, but glad it improved.  Have a good night of rest.

This higher altitude has a way of making me rather lazy si I, too, am starting to think about bed and it is only 8 PM.

Yes, LARRY, this dog sitting location is rough duty.  I bet you would not even recognize Vail now....it has changed a lot.  Happy Birthday to Pat, again.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

What a great show we saw tonight on t.v. A lengthy dvd of Andre Rieu. It was an hour and a half long, but the time just zipped by. He has a fantastic orchestra, and they all looked like they enjoyed every minute of their playing, and did Andre himself. I loved it.

Now it is time for an early bed and book, and so to sleep. God's best Blessing to you all. Sleep well, rise happy and healthy, Love, Hugs, and Prayers. June.

Ah, Jenny, I envy you the time in Vail.... we spent a week in Avon, in Vail & Eagle/Vail (different years), not sure those areas still carry the same name, but all kind of ran together so I never knew where I was.  Do love to ride through town on the open bus & just absorb the beauty of the hanging baskets & barrels of flowers all up & down the street, the air is so thin it is hard for me to walk very far.  No matter how hot the days down lower, always nice in Vail & down right chilly at night. Rough time for you, I'm sure~  I also love Aspen.... but you know I'd rather be sleeping out in a camper than a condo.  We did find a Nat'l Forest campground not far from Aspen, over Independence Pass, stayed there a couple nights after the kids were grown & then we went on into town to stay in a motel to please Cas.  He just didn't care for camping, but tried....  Enjoy!

I am hearing heavy equipment yet tonight, some kayakers got in trouble at the overflow by the bridge, where the dam can be closed off to save the city from flooding.  One 20ish local boy, seminarian & friends...5 of them, in 2 kayaks, the one without life vest helped another to the bank & got sucked under.  His body has not been found but they called off the search for the night, not sure why the sounds of motors.  This happened about 8:00 this morning so don't hope to find him alive now.  I went down to the edge of the water a couple times to see if he may be caught in the brush & trees growing in the river bed.  I couldn't see much because the growth is so tall now & river still out of it's bank, has gone down quite a bit but my tiger lilies are still about half underwater.  So sad for family & friends to know it maybe a long time before his body is recovered.

It is possible he has floated way beyond Wichita but my guess is he got caught by all those young trees & half chopped off trees that the beaver cuts down.  There is one area behind the houses to the west of me, that has an inlet with a berm that hides it, the current between the bank & berm & main arm of the river is swift & draws in a lot of stuff.  It doesn't show from the other side of the river, so unless they walk this side, which they can't do right now because of the mud, they wouldn't know about this cove.

Good night, all, and God Bless.  Shirley
