Teacher:  How old is your father?

Kid:        He is 6 years

Teacher:  What? How is it possible?

Kid:        He became father only when I was born.

(Logic!!! Children are quick and always speak their minds.)

A father passing by his son's bedroom, was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up. Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, "Dad." With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands...

"Dear, Dad. It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mum and you.

I've been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her because of her piercings, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am.

But it's not only the passion, Dad. She's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Stacy can get better. She sure deserves it!

Don't worry, Dad. I'm 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I'm sure we'll be back to visit, so you can get to know your many grandchildren.

Love, your son, Joshua.

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Jason's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that's on the kitchen table. Call when it is safe for me to come home!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I looked at the calendar wrong and I don't have to be at work until 10 this morning.  I slept better last night than I have in a while.  Maybe, with God's help, today will be a good day!

I got some errands done yesterday and fixed some little stuff around the house and I finished pulling the weeds around the Rose of Sharon bushes.  Now I'm ready for the flowers!

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Amy have a nice "day out"!

Hi Everyone.  Another beautiful and sunny morning.  We are expecting to get into the low 90's this afternoon.  Yesterday we had a heat index of 105.  The housekeeper is due here this morning.  After she arrives we will head to Costco for a few items.  Pat is up and dressed and wants to go with me today.  I just hope the riding carts are available.

Here is the latest on Pat from her sister Judy: "Well Pat my dear sister is home from hospital at last.  She went home with a bad case of pink eye, however she has medication for that and will be home free soon.  Now for physio to help her get mobile!"

Gloria, those fires from Canada must have driven some of the birds South to your area.  Glad you are able to sleep late.

Shirley, you are dry if your rain gauge is shrinking.  I will have to remember that for future use.  Sorry you didn't get to go to the Apple Farm restaurant.  They always had little cups of cider you could drink as you waited for your table, which you usually had to do.  One of our trips to Kansas City we wanted to go back and eat there but it had closed by that time.  I bet your son is a bit concerned about you using a chain saw.

Callie, glad to see the storms missed you but still gave you a brief downpour.  We were also going to the Apple Orchard Restaurant during the 1970's.  Of course, money was tight so had to limit our visits but good for special occasions.  I have also been to the Starlight Theater in Swope Park a few times.  Glad you enjoy the bridge playing.  We used to play but it now has been a good many years and I wouldn't even attempt to do it as my partner would probably be very upset with my playing.  I always just played for fun and it was never serious.  Do you all play party bridge or duplicate?

deAngel, I didn't see any of the golf match yesterday other than a brief bit on the Fox News Channel talking about it.  By the time I looked for it on the Golf Channel or Fox Sports last evening the round must have been over.  I will certainly be watching some of it tomorrow and Sunday afternoons.  Interesting ties you have to that golf course. I understand the course they are using is pretty tough and a challenge even to the best golfers.  It sounds like you scared that poor little mouse.  :)

Mary Ann, watching the women pros play golf can be just as entertaining as the men.  Unfortunately they don't seem to have the prize money there that the men do in their tournaments.

Amy, glad to see you got your power back on before expected.  There were some places around her that had some golf ball size hail earlier this week.  We sure don't need that.  Glad you didn't get any of the hail that was close by your area.  When Pat hasn't been out for several days, if she feels up to it she likes to get out even if it is only to go eat.

Jane, glad you got your weeds pulled around your Rose of Sharon.  Now if it would just stay that way. Nice to see you slept well last night.  That will probably make your lines at the cash register seem a little shorter.

June, I think you are probably right that as we age we tend to want to sleep more.  The fellow I take to coffee is 86 years old and he can drop off to sleep in a moment.  My mother had narcolepsy and when she sat down to read the paper or just to rest she would go to sleep.  Her brother had the same condition.  Fortunately, neither my sister nor I inherited it from her.

Lloyd, it sounds like you heat has been a lot like ours as it is just plain hot.

Bubble, another beautiful graphic and cute jokes.  Thanks for starting us on another week.

Sandy, I hope you also enjoy a good day.  Are you still having comfortable temperatures?

CALLIE, I forgot to mention that I talked to my granddaughter who lives in Jenks, OK (with my brand new GGranddaughter) and they didn't have any bad weather.  She had just been on the phone with her MIL who lives in Tulsa...where Ali's husband also works and they experienced NO bad weather.  I wonder where it was?

Gotta run!  I'm due in at 10.  Have a wonderful day Everyfriend!

Sunny or over cast with a little rain.
June is usually very pleasant here

All  is well with me, except,  I think that
I need my cataracts

getting blurrier and blurrier..

Good morning everyone,58° and raining. I woke earlier this morning, am dressed already because today I have the NP from the company that sends the CNAs. She will be here at 10:30. Not 1 day just for me this week, very tiresome.

SHIRLEY  have no idea where the smoke came from. She never  said what direction it was coming from but it was sunrise so must have been from the east? Last night when I went to bed it dawned on me that it was Flag Day. I did not see anything about it on the TV nor anyone putting out flags.

GLORIA de  like you I would scream if I saw a mouse in here. Then a mouse is better than a rat. If I saw one of those I would be out of here as fast as I could move.

AMY  the las t job I had my boss was giving me more and more work and then wondered why something wasn't finished. Told him I still could not find that button. He asked what button. Told him I could not find the one that turned me into a robot that could get the work out faster. 2 days later I got someone to help me. Glad I spoke up to him because I never would have had help.

JANE  I had heard long ago to use a can of hairspray on a pesty fly and it stiffens their wings and the fall and the it  is a wack and the fly
hedoublell. I tried it, the can in one hand and the swatter in the other. Guess one hand was not fast enough, never worked for me.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new book to write in. Love your graphic with all the flags showing. Love the joke wih the 6 year old. Weill have to send that to my brandson who has an almost 3 year old who is already too darn smart.

Almost 11 and I know this NP is always right on time.
Hello to everyone I have not got to yet this morning

Good Morning, Everyfriend,

Janie,  didn't think about your connections to the Tulsa area.   I was speaking of that area "in general".  Also probably wasn't paying that much attention as weather gurus were doing their usual babble about the weather...and we weren't having any to talk about.

Larry,  definitely party Bridge!  Everyone plays Good Bridge but we like to talk too much to obey all the rules and regulations of Duplicate.  I get very annoyed when someone playing party Bridge tries to use some of the duplicate conventions.
Yes,  Apple Orchard was definitely a special treat, as was the Starlight Theater.

I have been informed that the Dad's Day Dinner will be at my house - mostly because Miss Emily is coming home for the weekend and can go more easily go on from here.   Her Dad is doing ribs and chicken in his new smoker (early Dad's Day gift).  My assignment is baked beans and pasta salad.  Will do the beans in the slow cooker so won't have to have the oven on.

Off to the grocery store....

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Thanks Bubble for our new start, and funny story.

Amy, glad you got your power on.  Yesterday , got a call from management that the water would be off.  Walked around to the sink to draw some water and it was already off :tickedoff:

Gloria, I did not see anything here saying it was Flag Day, but nearly everyone on the circle had their flag out.  I know you are enjoying this weather.  Went to DD yesterday and asked about lemon doughnuts and she said they do not make them anymore. I ask for 2 powder sugar and 2 chocolate, got home just had the sugar ones, of course it was the chocolate ones tha t I like

A Good Friday afternoon HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Thank you, BUBBLE, for our nice new Soda Shoppe.

I have been out pruning the flowers and it sure is hot out there.  Earlier when I was out it was just beautiful and I should have done my work then! It just started to cloud up and we are to get a few drops of rain.....sadly we need a LOT of rain to help with all the forest fires and the smoke in our air.  The smoke was much worse yesterday.  There are so many fires burning it is hard to say where the smoke is really coming from.....probably all of them.

We had to go for blood work yesterday in preparation for our yearly physicals next week.  Afterward we went to breakfast then decided to play tourists for the day. There is a big kitty cat display in one area of downtown.  It was not completed yet, but many of them were up and I sure enjoyed seeing it.

We met Brian and he and his dad had a quick brew in one of our many brew pubs around.  It is so much fun to just meet up with him and chat for a bit.

Not much more to say.  Hope everyone is enjoying a nice day.

Jenny

Okay, Larry & Callie.... and anyone else that visited or lived near Kansas City in the '50s or there abouts.  I couldn't remember the name of the place where we went to dance to Les Brown & others ... was on Main Street about half way between downtown KC and the Plaza..... think it was called the PlaMor......Anyone ever go there?  I remember at least 2 trips but can't remember who the 2nd Big Band we danced to.  We were lucky being between KC and St.Louis and had Stan Kenton, Tommy Dorsey & others do a one night gig at our local "Convention Center" where we also held major dances until we finally got a new gym built that could be used for all type dinners & dances.  Callie, Woodie Herman was at the college in Warrensburg when Cas was going there.... and he had Gene Krupa on drums.... such good music! Poor Cas could not hear the beat of music, he tried & tried but it wasn't there. I'd say, "can't you hear that?" but he didn't. My body still just goes into motion when that old music comes on.

Mary Ann & Gloria de..... sleep well, those mice are quiet and for sure your cats will see them if they get on your bed!   ;D

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless (thinking of you, Hal).............Shirley

Shirley,  we were living in Leadville when we spent time in Warrensburg - with 2 kids - living in a campus apartment house.  Not many trips into K.C.
There was a family from PA there at the same time for the same reason - also with kids.  She asked if we were going home for the short semester break.  When I told her how long it would take to drive from W-burg to Leadville, she said, "But you only have to go across Kansas!"  ;D
They had come across 7 states from PA to MO!!

I remember Marge and Gower Champion (the dancers) performing at OU when I was a student (1955-ish)  Harry Belafonte "opened" for them.  Nobody knew who he was!!!!

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful Saturday morning here in South Carolina.  Last evening we had a very nice 20 minute or so shower.  There were more storms in the area but fortunately we only got some lightning, thunder and rain.  Again today it will get into the lower 90's.  The heat here yesterday was very oppressive as the humidity was high and probably will be again today.  I do have to get out to do a little shopping at Aldi's and will likely attend a meeting this morning before doing the shopping.  I plan on watching the last 2 or 3 hours of the third round of the golf tournament.  Pat is going to fix a roast in the Instant Pot so we will be having a tasty dinner tonight.

Sandy, I couldn't believe what a difference in my sight when I had my cataracts removed.  After having to wear glasses for over 60 years it is nice not to need them most of the time as just need them for close reading or very small print.  If my arms were longer probably wouldn't need them at all.

Gloria, I hope your appointment with the NP went well yesterday.  Having grown up on a farm seeing mice and even rats was not uncommon around the barn where we stored grain for the cattle.  I still don't like them but not afraid of them.  My great grandchildren recently got a white rat as a pet, which would not be my cup of tea.  It seems that employees are being expected to take on more and more work.  However, only so much can be done in a given day.

Callie, I could still do the bidding in Bridge but have forgotten some of the few conventions I at one time knew.  My wife and I usually played as partners unless we were playing in a group where we played 4 hands and then rotated to another table and another partner for the next 4 hands.  I never had anyone get angry at me for a misplay.  I hope you all have a great Dad's Day Dinner at your house.  Our son is working on Sunday so it will just be Pat and I.  I consider all he does for us as a great gift throughout the year and there is nothing that I need as a gift and he really can't afford one anyway.  I remember Marge and Gower Champion.  Later Gower Champion had a successful career doing choreography for Broadway Shows, if I remember correctly.

Jane, that Emma is a beautiful great grandchild for you.  I look forward to seeing more pictures.  Bubble thanks for posting them for her.

Amy, I hope you have an equally nice day enjoying the birthday party.  I don't really see any wildlife where I live, except birds, although sure it is all around us.

deAngel, I was shocked when I looked at the leaders at the tournament after the second round and only one player under par.  Dustin Johnson seems to be on a roll of top-notch golf as he won last week and well on his way to another win this week.  A lot of the big names didn't even make the cut for the weekend.  Is wind normal for that course?  I hope they didn't keep your water off too long.  I haven't been to a Dunkin Donuts since we moved.  Here the preferred chain seems to be Krispy Kreme donuts.  I have never liked the powered sugar donuts as prefer the raised glazed type or the pastries with a filling.  Apple fritters is one of my favorites.  I was tempted to get a dozen of them at Costco yesterday but passed up the temptation.

Jenny, it would be great if the droughts in the West would end.  They are saying our area is no longer considered to be in a drought.  I bet the kitty cat display was interesting.  Do you use your electric cart for these type of things?  Nice that Brian could join you for a chat.

Shirley, we lived about 100 miles north of Kansas City and the only time we went there was to visit my mother's family or my dad's cousin and family.  I did a quick search on the Pla Mor ballroom and found this interesting article:  http://www.kchistory.org/week-kansas-city-history/great-indoors .  I am not remembering ever hearing about it. I see it went out of business in 1951, when I would have been only 10 years old.

Good morning everyone. La te again. I was close to the end of a book last night and just had to finish it-at 2am. I don't know about anyone else but I find it har d to get the the best part of a book and put it down to the next day. Supposed to be a good week end BUT humidity goes up on Monday along with the heat and will be into the 90's. Will not go outsice late in the day and the AC sure will be running overtime.

GLORIA de  the same aroud here with the lemon DD. They claim there is no one wanting them anymore. To you and me they are the best ones they made.

SHIRLEY  like you I have danced to some of those big bands. Here in Providence and at the end of the pier at Old Orchard beach in Maine. That was music to enjoy, not like the noise today.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link.

JANE  Emma is adorable. I know how you feel  being so far away from here. When my daughter had my 2 grandsons I went there when they were born. Missed them when I got home but she was so good at sending me pictures all the time. Back then she had to wait for the film to be finished to send the pictures. Now we have computers and digital cameras and smart phones so easier to keep in contact.

LARRY  the NP yesterday was just checking up on well the CNAs do their job and and keep up their records in the folder they have here.

Better get moving. Have a good day.

Good Morning,

Janie,  that is undoubtedly the cutest, sweetest looking baby I've seen since my Grands were that age!!!!

I found some decent looking fresh green beans at the grocery store yesterday for 99 cents a pound.  Bought a "bag full" and snapped them while I was watching the 10:00 p.m. news last night.
They are now in the slow cooker with some of the trimmings from the Christmas ham that I had saved in the freezer.
Will switch to baked beans for family first thing in the morning.  I start with canned pork/beans so they won't take as long to be ready.

5 of the 8 bulbs in the strip lighting under my kitchen cupboards had gone out.  I decided I could surely figure out how to take care of that.   Well - it involved:
4 trips to Batteries and Bulbs
1 trip to Home Depot
a mirror
a cell phone camera
a flashlight
and latex gloves
:dizzy:  but I got it done!

Projects du Jour are laundry, making pasta salad and making sure I have plates, silverware and napkins for company coming tomorrow.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day

Larry, interesting article about the Pla Mor..... hard to believe it closed in '51, guess I must have gone when I was only 16. I have photos sent from one of the girls (3 couples) that danced to Les Brown & his band of renown... and I'm pretty sure the singer that night was Doris Day. We girls were to stay with my brother & wife "just down the street on the Plaza" while the boys were supposed to get a hotel room. All 6 of us walked to my brother's apartment & they admitted they didn't have a room. We all slept on the floor & I never planned any more trips with that bunch.  We all paid our own way & were dance partners, not really dating, but I thought those guys were irresponsible. 88

It is another hot morning, my son & wife brought their camper all cleaned up to store in my extra garage. I put jacks down & slide out to get the rest of the stuff out of the closets & drawers in mine. Swept out & closed up again, I will fill with gas to be ready to hit the road for any emergency.  I don't plan another trip in this heat but my brother is almost 93 & sister 88, both of their spouses still living so if I need to go, I can.

My son stopped long enough to connect the new computer to wi-fi............my brain is not ready for touch screen & no mouse.  Not sure why every time I plug my mouse in the curser stops working.  Maybe I need a smarter mouse?  I did have to get a new password to get in, wouldn't take the one I had before so guess I'll have to reprogram those other computers? Still no bookmarks on this one so will work on that. I don't know how to highlight & change colors, size & all so must get a working mouse.  (Think you girls could spare one, Mary Ann & Gloria de???)

Good morning.

They say rain is on the way and we sure do need it.

GLORIA de, Carol and I live within walking distance of each other, so if there is any storms or the like, we both get them at the same time.  I am sure glad you have your water back on.  Sure would have been nice if you could have had enough warning to get some water before they shut it off!

LARRY, I did ride my electric cart when we were downtown.  It is wonderful to be able to get around with ease.  I would never be able to get around like that with out the cart.  I am thankful to have it.  I use the rollator as much as I can in stores.  When my friend Patti was here and we went clothing shopping the other day, having the seat to sit down occasionally was a blessing.  I just need to sit down for a couple of minutes, then I can go again for a bit.

JANE, your little Emma is precious.  Thank you Bubble for posting the picture for us to see her.

AMY, we have quite a bit of wild life to view here in our everyday life as well, and it is so enjoyable.  I was standing at the kitchen window yesterday and a small deer went running by.  We used to have three or four of them that would graze here in our yard for hours.  I sure would love to have some of your home grown radishes.

SHIRLEY, how fun to read about the old bands and your memories of the Pla Mor.  Back in the day they used to have a lot of the big bands and singers come play at The Tracadereo at Elitches, a local amusement park.

https://magazine.du.edu/current-issue/elitchs-trocadero-ballroom-was-a-place-where-memories-were-made/

I wish you all a wonderful day.

We will be going to our youngest Son Brian’s for dinner tonight to celebrate Father’s Day. Tomorrow they will be with his wife Cathy’s Family.

I  can talk to you on this computer but something caused the others to NOT let me login for Seniors.  :tissue: I have tried over & over to get the password that works on this one to work with the others but won't let me see that baby or any photos, or even do a replay on them.  Don't have a mouse to work on this one yet so am at the mercy of technology & can't do all the doctoring to get print larger & bold, etc. Maybe a nap will help, you think?

Another quiet day for me. Several good programs available, but it didn't feel like going out at all. I did make myself take a stroll around the gardens and the club house, but came right back home. Have almost read a whole book todayl. Debbie Macomber. I read her years ago, then got into mysteries. Now I'm back to quieter stuff. When I moved this time I tossed the notebook of books I had read. Sort of wish I could review them, but too late now.

Gary and Dori will be leaving on Monday for a two week vacation. Most of it spent in Idaho, but they are driving this time, so intend to do some side trips.I miss them already. I should use that time writing letter to some old friends that I have neglected for too long. I hope I do this.

Time to fix up a light supper. I didn't feel like going downstairs, but I have more food on hand than I need, and no appetite. I think a cheddar cheese sandwich will be fine and a small can of v8 juice.

Have a peaceful night dear hearts, God will keep watch as we sleep. I love you all. June

Happy Father's day to the  gentlemen here, may you have a wonderful day!

We have family coming for lunch so I need to get things in order . Just having cold cuts with salad ,so not too demanding on a hot day.

June, your cheddar cheese sandwich sound good , I would be putting slices of Vidalia onion on mine and hope I wouldn't have to pay for it later.  :)

Jenny, the radish seeds went in because Jane talked about fried radish and I am going to try that. Radish bother hubby's stomach so I haven't planted any in the past.

Gloria, it doesn't matter that your late...…..just as long as you get here.

Better get a move on, need to chase dust bunnies before it gets too hot.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi Everyone.  It is an overcast morning and they say the rain has moved out for awhile.  I will go to Sunday School and Church on this Father's Day and then if Pat decides not to attend Church I will stop and get something to bring home for lunch as usual as we seldom cook anything on Sunday's.  I do plan on watching the end of the U. S. Open Golf Tournament this afternoon.  It is an extremely hard course and all of the players seem to be struggling.  I need to try to do the walking in the house as haven't done it the last couple days as just didn't have the energy and I had walked a lot at Aldi's yesterday morning.

I thought this was a really nice, thoughtful and appropriate Devotional that I got in one of the reading I get each morning.

A Praying Father
(By Henry Bosch)
(Provided by Our Daily Bread, RBC Ministries, 6-15-03 devotional)

"Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me." - Psalm 143:1

A minister concluded his sermon one Sunday by saying, "If there's someone here who wants help in getting to know God, and you would like me to pray for you, please raise your hand." A young man stood up and said, "Please pray for me, sir. The burden of my sin is too heavy to bear."

After the service the minister talked with the man and led him to faith in Jesus. The young man had been wandering around the country for 8 years without contacting his parents, so he decided to write to them and tell them about the change in his life.

Several days later, a reply came from his mother: "My dear son, you must have accepted Jesus Christ at the same hour your father went home to heaven. He had been sick for a long time, and that day he was very restless. He tossed from side to side on his bed, crying out, 'Lord, please save my poor, wandering boy.' I'm sure that one of the reasons you became a Christian was Dad's unceasing intercession."

A praying father will "ask," "seek," and "knock" on behalf of his children, persistently trusting his wise heavenly Father to do what is best (Matthew 7:7-11).

Let's thank God today for faithful fathers who never stop praying for their children.

"We thank You, Lord, for fathers true
Who always spoke to us of You;
Their great concern and tender care
Assured us of their constant prayer."

A praying father reflects the love of our heavenly Father.

I am running out of time this morning so will just say I have read all of the postings and will be back tomorrow.

Good morning everyone, for a change I am up early. Just heard the weather, into the 80's today and tomorrow hot 90's and humid. Sure will not go out if it gets that hot.

Happy Fathers day to all our Dads and Grandpas.

CALLIE  looks like you were busy. I always like fresh green beans with ham, tasty.

SHIRLEY  good luck with the new computer. I don't think I could get used to a touch screen.

JUNE  like  you I have no appetite and it is hard to cook anymore. I have tried most TV dinners but there is something in the preservatives they use that burns my throat so don't try anymore. Just making scrambled eggs wears me out and I head to the couch to rest my backand the eggs get thrown out.

GLORIA de  JOAN sure kept us fed good every morning but I liked her DD the best, she made sure ther e was always plenty or us, someone else liked the lemons, too. I think it was Amy but not sure.

AMY  my younger son and I are the radish eaters. His wife doesn't like them so never bought them. I did and would share them with him. Now since I moved here and they bother me I no longer buy them.

LARRY  A Praying Father is wonderful but it also can be said for a Mother, too.

LLOYD  have a good time at your granddaughter's home. We ate predicted to have upper 90's tomorrow. Yuck

Good morning.  I hope it is a wonderful day for all the Fathers, grand-fathers, great grand-fathers and all the other "special" fathers.

I have been absent for a while, as I have not been feeling all that great.  Had some annoying problems, and have just been taking it easy.  Not sleeping very well, so try to catch up whenever I can.

Jane S.   First of all, a very sweet picture of your little Emma.  She looks so big sitting up there.  Also, did want to tell you that I did try the fried radishes.  I think I might have cooked them a little longer than I needed to. I was surprised at the difference in the taste between being raw and being cooked.  I liked them.  A nice "different" kind of a side dish.  I  will certainly fix them again, and not cook them quite as long.

The morning started out nice and sunny, but now is clouding up a little bit.  Scattered showers are predicted for some part of the day.   It is a little chilly insdie my place. Even tho, it will get up into the high 80's today.

I hope everyone will enjoy this Special Sunday.

Joy

Good Morning Everyone,
from the Sunny and Cool,
Rocky Coast of Maine.
We are having a very nice day!

One of the baby Decorah Eagles
fell out of their tree yesterday and is
now perched in another tree down below.

He accidentally "fledged" ...
meaning flew off to another tree..
Young to do this but not too young.
So now we are just waiting to see if it makes
its way back to its "home tree" ...
He has been seen and he is safe.

YesterdAY  we had our Giant
Gay Pride Parade here in Portland.
It lasted over and hour..  it is the
biggest parade that we have here in
Portland.   Lot's of fun
had by all and I get to watch it all
from my living room windows
to the world.

All is well here...
Have a good day,  everyone,
and Happy Fathers Day to all
the Fathers of the world,  and
anyone to accepts that role in

Hello Friends!  For some reason, I'm not being notified of postings on this board.  I still get them for the other boards I visit but not for this.  And by the time I realize that I haven't been back here for a while, a whole day has passed.  I wonder why it's doing that to me?

Today was a good one.  I went to church and stayed for coffee hour after.  Then I hit the farmers market and made a stop at WM on the way back from there.

I ran across a website that lists casseroles for every state and I went therough them and didn't find any that didn't look interesting or tasy.  So I bookmarked it and I'm embarking on a 50 state taste testing, casserole trying adventure.  And I decided to do it in order so tomorrow I will be visiting ALABAMA.  I only needed to buy one item for this one and it's a sweet potato casserole with pecans (what else!)  I'll let you know what I think.  I'm going to have chicken tenders and frozen corn with it.

Now the doggies are getting restless.  I think they're ready for supper and mine tonight is leftovers.  Good leftovers!

Enjoy your evening!

Making progress, now have a mouse that works and Bubble got me back in. Another extremely hot day in Kansas with winds bending trees over.  Looks like late August so anything not being watered is wilted or dried up.  The river is low enough the fish can't get near the bank where I feed them and wind makes it hard to carry the bread out where they are.  Kind of sad to see everything so stressed in June.  Crazy weather everywhere but am thankful we don't have a volcano near or faults for large earthquakes.  Lots going on underground all over the world.

Hope every father was treated with love and respect today, I know, it has to be earned like every other reward in life. No question the fathers in this place are the best..

JOY  not sleeping well is no fun. I had a time where I could not get to sleep until time to get up.

JANE  the last time my daughter was here she made a casserole with sweet potatoed and pecans. She had got it from a Penzy's catalog. I tried it once but it did not come out as good as hers.

SHIRLEY  seems like several volcanoes are erupting not only that horrible one in Hawaii.

On local news they showed the beaches and already people are on the sand and in the water.

Have a good day and stay cool.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Today is going to be a hot one.  So was yesterday.  I broke down and turned on the A/C in the late afternoon when I realized that the temps were reaching into the 90s.  They are supposed to do the same today.

I have to be at the auto repair shop at 10 this morning.  Have you ever heard of a side view mirror exploding?  Well, I have now.  I was driving along a country road with nothing on either side except telephone poles located about 5 or 6 feet off the road.  I heard a loud pop and glanced sideways to see my mirror hanging there in pieces!  They ordered me a new one and are putting it on this morning.  They couldn't believe it either.

Then I'm coming home and dealing with some peaches I bought yesterday.  I found a very interesting recipe for preserving them and I'm going to try it.  If I like it, I'll be buying local peaches as soon as they are available and canning them for when "the snow flies".

I hope you all have a lovely day and that you don't smother from the humidity and the heat.  Take it easy!

Hi Everyone.  Hi everyone on a day that starts out at 70 degrees with 100% humidity and will get to the mid-90's or above on a sunny day with no chance of rain.  I did water the lawn this morning.  Yesterday at Church was our Associate Pastor's last Sunday with us and he preached a really good sermon.  He is headed to Hampton, SC and will pastor two small churches.  Our new Associate Pastor will start on July 1.  I had a nice quiet afternoon and evening.  Nothing on the schedule for today but sure I will find something to keep me occupied.

Lloyd, your weather sounds very much like ours and it is going to continue all week.  Glad you could enjoy a nice weekend at your granddaughters.  Is she a good cook?

Gloria, fortunately neither Pat nor I are allergic to the TV Dinners and they do come in handy.  In fact this might be the night for them as know we have a couple in the freezer.  However, what we have is Pat's decision.  It is very painful for her to stand in the kitchen more than a few minutes. I almost always fix her breakfast anymore and then we each fix our own lunch and then she plans and fixes our dinner. We had one of those sweet potato (yams) casseroles with brown sugar and pecans.  It was almost like pie without the crust and very good.  We just finished up the last of it on Saturday evening.

Amy, another saying I have never heard before about putting an egg in your boot and beating it.  Hope you have a great time with family today.

Joy, sure hope today finds you feeling better.  I know when we don't feel up to par it is hard to get motivated to do more than the absolute essentials.

Jane, click on the "Notify" link at the top of the discussions where it shows other menu options.  This should toggle notifications on and off.  You had a busy morning yesterday before you got home.  Hope you were able to get some rest in the afternoon. It sounds like you will have an adventure in eating.  What a strange experience with your mirror.

Shirley, it sounds like you are making good progress with your new laptop.  It sounds like it could be another very hot and dry summer out your way.  In this area the rivers are all bank full.

My appointment at the car shop is at 10 and I'm all ready.  I even how the things set out for what I want to do when I get home.  Now I just have to wait.  I'll try to chase the doggies out one more time before I go.

The only thing on my calendar for today is a movie, "South Pacific". We are celebrating Hawaii this week. I don't know why, but there will be lots of paper leis given out..I have three left from last years so I will use those and add whatever else I am given.

I am sleepy already......my day starts between five and six a.m. so I will get dressed and to out to walk and see what the rest of our folks are up to. Be Happy kids. I love you.

Well, my mirror is fixed.  I got my refill on my eyedrops on the way and when I came back I got busy trying the recipe for canned peaches that I took off the internet.

I think I might have jumped the gun.  It's not peach season around here yet and the ones I bought were NOT ripe.  And they were NOT freestone.  I completed the recipe anyway and I have two jars to try,  They look really good!

Then, this afternoon, I drove down to the wild meat store for ground venison.  We had so much of it when my husband, FIL and son were all hunting.  I don't think we ever ran out of venison when the kids were growing up and I miss it.  I really prefer it to hamburger.  Guess I'd have made a good pioneer.

Now I'm going to rest until it's ready to begin my all state tour with my Alabama casserole for supper.  Hope your day is going well and you're avoiding the heat/humidity!

I felt like I should use a different color since I'm the last one that posted here.

My Alabama casserole is in the oven and the the rest of the food is ready to join it when the beeper goes.  It's really beginning to smell good.

Joy, I'm so glad you like the fried radishes.  Yes, they do have a different taste than the raw ones.  I guess that's why they hit the spot for me.  I never really liked the taste of the raw ones.  But when we were little, we weren't allowed to say we didn't like something.  If it was there and it was good for us, we ate it.

Jane, we weren't allowed to say we didn't like something, either..... "just a little, thank you" was okay.  Your casserole sounds good to me, all the years I was married Cas insisted he didn't like casseroles so all meals were meat & potatoes & everything is separate bowls or plates.

No saving that post, it just when "whooie" & disappeared.  This curser hops all over the place, I gain one thing (mouse) but go down the tubes on another.  I have recipes come to my in box all the time, because a cooking magazine came with another magazine I wanted.  I'm not looking for new recipes to try, the kids want the old standbys when I offer to take food.  Seems the younger generation don't want recipe books, they get all their new recipes online.  This page keeps popping up & down so think I'd better just post and go soak my head.  Sweet dreams to all.  Shirley

It is nice to "see" everyone again.  I am learning a different laptop as my old one bit the dust.  The keyboard is not centered and my hand wants to roam - why would the "experts" do that except to annoy.

I have been in several earthquakes and one pretty big one in Seattle.  We had earthquake drills in school but that never happened in school.  The entire fireplace fell apart in the house and there was so much dust.  Earthquakes in Colorado too but they were pretty mild.

Today's storm is going north, perhaps.  Yesterday, there was a lake in the ravine - it did finally drain.  The slow cooker had chicken teriyaki simmering all day - it was OK.  Saturday, we had two of the boys here for oven-baked ribs (5 hours at 200 degrees) and they were nice - plus a bean casserole that I have made for decades.  Next week, another son will be staying for  a couple of nights.

This has been sort of a weird day...or maybe I should say  I have been sort of weird today.  Day started as usual...had lunch downstairs then on to watch South Pacific on the big screen. It seemed to last forever, and really we only saw half....it is a looooong movie. We will watch the last half next Monday.I wasn't too impressed. Came home and fell asleep. Wasn't hungry so supper was just snacks.

Carol, I just can't seem to make friends with my Mac lap top. I loved it when I was hospitalized for eight days, but i much prefer my desk top. I have it right here next to the desk top so I do use it once in a great while.

My stomach is telling me to have some cold cereal....don't want the milk to go sour, and that will be my supper. Have a good night my precious friends. Hugs, Love and prayers.

Good morning everyone..

Another hot day here..we didn't get much rain yesterday nor the storm, didn't miss that but could use more rain.

We are off to the city this morning, hubby's remote for his hearing aid is in. After 2 days of company it will be just a quick trip in and  back, I hope!! I seem to tucker out faster in this heat.

Jane, I will only use free stone peaches, the clings are not nice to use as you found out. Well worth doing the peaches as they taste so good in the winter. From the bushel I did we only have maybe 5 jars left.

Better go get ready, would like to go in and back before the heat gets too bad.

Enjoy your day eve4ryone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had rain well into the night.  The first part began and I realized that my car windows were open.  So I took a shower on the way to closing them.  That storm stopped and the dogs were just beginning to relax when the second one began.  And that was while we were on the way to bed.  It was full of thunderboomers which neither of them likes.  Annie plastered herself to me and Mickie took her place in the corner down behind the bed.  I think she has decided tha it she can see IT....IT can't see her.

This morning has been a busy one already and we are in for more rain.  However, the rain did lower the temps and we are 70s and not predicted to go higher than low 80s today.  I can live with that!

AMY, have a save and easy trip to the city.

Everyfriend, enjoy your day!

Hi Everyone.  We are headed to 98 degrees with high humidity this afternoon.  I am meeting a friend for lunch around 11:30 this morning and beyond that plan to stay home and in where it is cool the rest of the day.  I just fixed Pat's breakfast and have the other kitchen work done for this morning.

Sandy, when I found out the area where we live is on the 6th most active earthquake fault I decided it would be money well spent so added earthquake coverage to my insurance.  Just like fire and other insurances I will be most happy to spend the money and never have to collect on it because of some type of disaster.

Jane, Pat has found that the canned yams work just as well as dealing with cooking and mashing sweet potatoes.  Hope your casserole turned out well.  I see that  you got the mirror replaced yesterday on your car as planned.  Those mirrors are so important for safe driving.  We are waiting for the peaches the lady at Church Sunday gave me to ripen up.  They sure have been good this year even though they are not freestone.  I know the men of our Church have a wild meat dinner once a year.  However, that is not my thing.  To my knowledge none of the markets around here sell venison but there a dear hunting season.

Shirley, we were always required to clean our plates and at least have a little of whatever Mother fixed for meals.  Unfortunately that trait carried over to adulthood.  My dad was also a meat and potatoes guy but always like to have something sweet to end the meal.  There is probably a function key on your laptop keyboard that will turn off your touch pad as that is most likely the cause of your curser hopping all around. Do a Google search on the problem identifying your particular model of laptop and you will probably find instructions for turning it off.  If you don't then call the technical support people at the company making the computer and ask them how to do it. I expect most of us with laptops have experienced the same problem as we unknowingly touch the touch pad.  For a long time I just cut out a piece of cardboard and taped it over the touch pad and that also solved the problem.  The Magic Tape comes off easily if I wanted to use the touch pad as I only put it on the sides.   I haven't seen Pat use a cookbook in a long time.  Anymore she finds recipes on the Internet and prints them out.  She does reuse those printed recipes.

Good morning Peter.  Are you having very hot weather over your way as we are here?

Mary Ann, I think that link you shared on the earthquakes is probably the longest URL I have ever seen.

June, glad you were able to see at least the first half of South Pacific.  It is nice you have theme weeks at your residence as it adds variety and gives the staff different decorating and probably cooking ideas.

Carol, we experienced several earthquakes when we lived in Anchorage including one that rolled the desk chair I was sitting in away from the desk into a bookcase.  We moved to Alaska a couple of years after the big 1960's earthquake there and the evidence of it was still very visible.

Amy, my mother used to can a lot of peaches each year and put them in our fruit cellar and they were so good whenever she would open a jar of them.  The peaches here this year have been outstanding.

Larry, I was surprised myself when I saw the length of that link to the earthquakes.  I have mine bookmarked so I haven't had to hunt for the site.  With the volcano erupting in Hawaii, they have earthquakes to go along with them and the red indicates an earthquake within the past hour.  It's interesting to see where earthquakes show up, sometimes in amazing places, far away from a fault.

I remember one time, sitting at my desk at work, realizing my chair was shaking.  A man was standing in front of my desk and he could not feel the tremble.  Others in the room who were sitting down, felt it.  An eerie feeling.

My mother used to can all fruits and vegetables as that's what was done in those days.  After she died, Dad and I canned some peaches.  We did everything right, but it was a mess and we vowed we wouldn't do that again.  And we didn't.

lWe had a nice quiet day in Stanton, high of 77, going down to 62 tonight. I attended a program on Hawaii today on the downstairs big screen. It was very interesting, I learned a lot about the island. Originally Hawaii was just a big mountain of Lava, till a bird came by a dropped a seed, which grew in the ashes, then onward and upward till it is what it is today.

The rest of the day I did nothing but go down for lunch, home to read and nap and read and nap some more. Now it is time for a light supper at home. There is entertainment downstairs, but I have seen the pianist/singer twice before and I am not too impressed. So after I eat I will read some more. My feet need attention from my Dr. Very painful calllus on both feet, on the ball of the foot so walking is limited. I have pads, but they do not help.

Have a good night dear hearts. I close with more prayer, hugs and Love. June

Good evening.  It has been a eventful weather day here in the Mile High City.  We have had tornado watches out all afternoon and into this evening.  Several storms have moved through and thankfully we have not had any hail.  I am so thankful.

Tomorrow we go for our yearly physicals.  We have spent quite a bit of time preparing our paperwork.  We have to have new scripts for every prescriptions.  Some are to different pharmacies, so we now feel we have everything covered.  I just want to get it over....I always dread going to the doctor.

CAROL, I was quite surprised at the amount of rain we have received the past couple of days.  My fountain on the patio was cleaned out and we did not fill it, knowing these rains were coming.  There is a good 3 inches of rain water in it.  I am sure happy to see this.  The grasses have really greened up again.  Most of all I am thankful for the help the rains have given the fire fighters.  I just hope they can continue now and not just stop and let the 90’s come back again!

LARRY, we continue with great anticipation to hear the news that I have been eluding to....maybe by Friday or early next week.  We thought we would know by now, but it is coming soon.  Yesterday something else came into the picture that has us even more intrigued.  I can not wait to be able to share our news.  I can say it has to do with Mark’s job.  Bless his heart, and Mehan’s, they are trying to not let it get to them as they wait patiently.  (NOT)

I wish EVERYFRIEND a good rest of your evening.

Jenny

Good Morning Everfriend!  I know I'm intrigued and can't wait to hear the news from Denver!

Our temps have receded a bit....high 50s overnight and only into the high 70s today.  I can live with that but it's not good for morning swimming lessons for the kids!  I remember taking my kids to the pool for lessons at 9 a.m. and they were shivering but no one asked not to go.

I'll be off to work at 9:30 this morning.  Wish me short lines and happy customers!

Enjoy your day Everyfriend.  Make it a good one!

G'morning all and if you are checking in today Lloyd, hello to you too .
Larry: Not hot weather Larry, it's what we call 'warm and Dry', we have not seen any blue sky all week, just a dull grey sky, with the odd  damp sea mist rolling in now and again, in
spite of the weather forecaster promising blue skies and sunshine !, lol, at least we have been spared the rough weather that has gone around the rest of the country.
I have been reading the comments in here of how hot it has been for some of you that side of the pond with,I must admit a little bit of jealousy, it would make a nice change to see a blue sky with bright sunshine for a change !, lol, with fingers crossed Larry, it might be here by this coming weekend !, .

Good morning everyone...

Another beautiful day in the making here. We don't have much planned for the day, maybe change the oil in the generator and I need to do a few things in the house. If the day warms up ,which it will I want to take the dogs to the lake .Golden girl loves to swim and I will give both dogs a bath while there. One will thoroughly enjoy the water while the other won't, last time at the lake Babe came home and rolled in the dirt :tickedoff:.

Jane, I am with you on Jenny's news....gives us all something to look forward to.

Roley, good morning, tis 11° C here and will soon go up to 22+

Better get a move on here...

Enjoy your day everyone.

Peter/Roley, I agree that the sunshine and blue skies are the best but when it's accompanied by 90% humidity, it's not so nice.  That's the part that beats us down!  It just saps one's energy!

Have a lovely day, whatever part of it your celebrating.  (I don't remember where exactly you are located but I know it's "across the water".

Hi Everyone on this already hot morning and a day headed to a heat index of 105 degrees this afternoon and still a day to go before summer officially begins. Nothing particular on the schedule for today until this evening when Scott will be coming out to spend a few hours with us.  Pat is fixing ribs in the Instant Pot and will fix some of her delicious baked beans to go with some macaroni salad and perhaps a lettuce salad if anyone wants one. We have some ice cream bars in the freezer for dessert so it shouldn't be a hard meal to prepare for this evening.  The landscape people just came down the street so we will be hearing that noise all day long.  I am not complaining but am glad when they do my end of the street in the morning rather than when I am trying to take a nap in the afternoons.

June, I hadn't heard had all of the foliage started on Hawaii.  That sounds like an interesting video you saw.  I am one of those fortunate people who have never had calluses on my feet and no problems other than blisters when when I was young.  Have you tried any of the Dr. Shoals special gel shoe inserts?  Scott is on his feet for hours and hours at work and his feet were giving him a rough time until he started using those and it made a big difference.  The problem is you have to stand on a special display that analyzes your feet and tells you which one to buy.

Mary Ann, I also marked the earthquake site.  Poor Hawaii was dominating the pages I looked at yesterday.  I haven't checked it out for today yet.  I think Pat only canned things one time and as I recall that was some pickles she had fixed.  I think they sealed all right.

Jenny, it sounds like the weather events kept you busy all day monitoring the situation.  Glad you and Carol missed the hail but have gotten some needed rain.  .  It sure helps to get the paperwork done before going to the doctor rather than sitting there and trying to fill out those forms.  I don't understand the need to fill out the HIPA form on every visit.  I can see doing it when you are seeing a new doctor or in a different office.  If we think that protects our medical record privacy I expect we are deluding ourselves.  I hope your medical exam today goes well. I see you have added a new mystery to keep us pondering.

Jane, I will trade you temps for a few days if it is too cool for you being only in the 70's.  I just checked and it is already 91 degrees there and it isn't even 9:30 this morning.  Hope you got short lines today.

Peter, You mentioned getting mist from the sea and it made me wonder how close do you live to the sea? Hope you do get to see some blue skies before long.

Amy, interesting that only one of your dogs likes the water.  Obviously Babe preferred the dirt to the water.  :)  However, that must have been frustrating after just giving her a bath.

Gloria, I expect you and Pat experience similar back issues.  Fortunately, she does find comfort in her easy chair and as long as she can stay off her feet.  When she went to Costco with me the other day I suggested that if all of the electric carts were in use she could use one of the wheelchairs so she could sit down when she needed to do so.  The thought just occurred to me that I should put the transport chair we have in the truck and she could use that basically as a rollator and could sit down when needed.  I just mentioned it to her and she agreed it was worth a try.  We already have the transport chair.  I can handle the transport chair as far as getting it in and out of the car.  Hope the CNA worked out OK for you today.

Lloyd, hope that headache doesn't last all day and you can find a good Western to watch on your TV.

Sandy, hope you enjoy a pleasant day and a good idea to add the cam links for ready reference.

Larry, Dad and I did our canning in the summer of 1942 and even though frozen foods were not available then (at least I think thedy were not), that was our one and last attempt at canning.  We could buy canned fruits and vegetables at that time and we did.  Some things I did not like canned and strawberries were in that category.

We have rain in the vicinity, just not here, but the sky is dreary.  At 10:30 am our temp is 65 degrees and I think I saw where our temps for a week will be in the 70s.

Move over, Mary Ann, here I come!!!!  WE are a tad cooler but sun came out half an hour ago & still blistering. My SON came over this morning & we cut a truck load of mulberry trees, scrub elm & other stuff out of the berm. It really got out of hand.  I was dripping wet when we got through, sent him off with several hundred dollars he doesn't NEED but threatened to "buy him something he didn't want" if he didn't take it.  It was a bargain for me, yard guys offered to clean it out when it was bad a few years ago.... for either $500 or $600 (but I would not have helped them  ::) ).......anyway, more to do next week when he has time.

We got less than a quarter inch of rain last night, not enough to help the dying grass & trees.  At least we did not get the big hail.

Can't remember if I posted after my appointment with cardio doctor yesterday.  I took along a photo of the tall display of oxygen cans in the Walmart (in Salida, CO), a can for them to read about contents, my report from the Lifeline screening I had done this past month.... and the report from 23& Me showing how my genes rated after that test.  I'm so healthy I'm not sure all reports are about ME, but the Dr & his nurse seemed delighted with all my reports & information (about oxygen without prescriptions). The Lifeline report says I am not at risk for osteoporosis (they do the ankle test) but I've been diagnosed with full blown osteoporosis for at least 20 years & get the full screen test every couple of years.  Never got any worse so guess the vitamins I took worked!  I do realize how lucky I am and don't hesitate to tell anyone interested that "I don't deserve to be able to move as abusive as I've been to this body all my years"............ I am grateful that after a life time of back problems and pain, no pain at all these days.  It really is a miracle, blessing, whatever one calls it, and I know it can't last forever, but I thank God all day, every day, for this moment in time.  I do enough whining about heat & things that go wrong so feel like I need to share this joy "maybe just for now", good health.

Need to go to the store & Sam's Club.... anyone out there getting cool weather.... ENJOY while you can!  We had summer before spring, looks like fall outside so "who knows what comes next"????  Hugs to all..........Love ya, Shirley

Shirley, congratulations on your good health.  I do feel I have osteoporosis and I know I have osteoarthritis.  My back aches if I stand too long but 10 years ago I did not have the aches and pains.  I never thought I'd live to this age and the nicest thing the doctor said to me last month was "come back in a year"!  I can walk to the mailbox with no trouble, but I watch very carefully when I do go and I stop at the road and look both ways before I venture across the road.

Along with that, when the sun is shining, I put on dark glasses before I go for the mail.  Usually the cat is sleeping in his bed in the living room and when I change glasses, the cat knows where I am going and that I'll let him out on the front stoop.  As I put on the glasses, Kendrick gets up and comes to the door with me.  He also knows when I come back he has to come back inside - and he's pretty good about doing that.  I don't have to say a word to him, he just knows when I put on the glasses, he can go outside.

Hi All, I was so tired when I came home for work that I just chased the doggies outside, made myself some lunch and geve the doggies a snack, ate lunch and went to sleep.

Then I come in here and read all the stuff Shirley does and I'm embarrassesd that I "can't take it any more".

A lady was talking about her mother who was celebrating her 90th birthday this weekend and all the things she does and I remarked that I'd probably still be behind the counter at WM when I celebrate 90.  She said, "Oh probably not, that's a long way off."  When I said, "Only 7 years" her eyes fell out of her head!  After we got them safely back in place she said, "You're NOT 83 are you?"  That made me feel pretty good...still tired but pretty good!

Mary Ann, it surprises me how much these cats do understand about our habits. I think your Kendrick would fall apart if you were not around, at least most of the time.  My Tom is more dependent on me than his sister (Tiger), and their mother seems to have found another place to call home since we don't take her on the trips.  She was here this morning for breakfast but wanted right back out the front door to go where ever she stays.  She brought another cat with her a couple days ago & seemed to want to make sure it waited for her.  She lets me pet her and purrs like happy to see me, but she is looking older and sort of ratty with her summer shedding.  I'm such a sucker for any critter...   She comes for her evening meal but last night did not show up for our walk down to the river.  Usually she loves that part of the day.

Jane, you work rings around me any day.... I barely keep things running here and grateful when the kids have time to help get one job or another under control.  I think I would enjoy working the hours you do for the reason to be around people more, but not sure I could keep up.  You do a lot more than I do every day, seriously, you do.

Lloyd, I really do understand your need to "keep on keeping on" doing what you do.  My brother in law will be 89 or 90 next December and finally told a couple of widow ladies in their neighborhood that "this is the last summer he is going to mow their yards, he is running out of steam".  He has been taking care of their grass for years (for free) and finding taking care of their own yard and garden is wearing him out.  Last year he grew enough tomatoes they fed everyone around and I know my sister does NOT do yard or garden work.  "Hi" to Nancy for me.... I was 83 LAST January!

Larry, sounds awful hot down your way.  I pretty much stay inside during extreme heat but can't stay awake all night like I used to do.  I did a lot of my sewing and painting when everyone was asleep and still up by 6:00 am to have breakfast on the table before kids went to school and Cas to work.  I never needed a lot of sleep but can't catch up these days.  I don't have any trouble falling to sleep or even laying awake if something wakes me during the night.  Silly, but I discovered I can repeat a simple prayer (like Guardian Angel, etc) & concentrate on each word... over & over & maybe a few minutes I am gone (so Fitbit tells me).  The Fitbit did wonders for letting me know about my sleep habits & best watch I ever had.

I missed a meal so better go fix something to eat & go down to the river..... the fish expect me!

Really, I am not here. My brain is sound asleep and my body is saying "lay down". But i'm just too ornery to obey.

My day started at 6 a.m. with a medicine  wake up, then a nice warm shower and shampoo, exercises, prayer time, a light breakfast, then down for Bible stludy. Lunch time then on to our program of Hula dancers. It was packed, so I sat off to the side and enjoyed, and as the program progressed one of the dancers came over and had me stand by my cart, and follow her body and hand movements.....delightful ! a new tune started and a different dancer came over and had me follow her movements.  I loved it !!!!!!! Did you now that Aloha means Love ? also Aloha nui means very much love. Tomorrow we are having an Hawaiian luncheon and musical show out on the quad. They have set up a stage in the center of the garden and there must be a hundred or more chairs arranged the outside of the card on the cement walkway.

I came home worn out so slept a good portion of the late afternoon.....had a light supper at home and will soon be off to bed and book. Tomorrow will be another busy day.

Keep well and happy dear hearts.....Love, Hugs and Prayers, June

Shirley,  I just had to comment on your great health report.  I know you and I are the same age, but, you run circles around me.   I have several health problems, but try to keep going as much as I can.  I have always been a night owl,  and never required a lot of sleep, but it sure is catching up on me now.  I just can never feel rested.  And, when I sleep during the day,  I got to sleep at night and might sleep for an hour, and then I am wide awake the rest of the night. Just awful !!! Plus, I have such little energy.  Takes me forever to get anything done.  But, I am glad that I am doing as good as I am.  I feel blessed, but have a hard time realizing that I am getting old.  LOL

But, congratulations and just keep doing whatever it is, that you are doing !!!!!

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  I think I have an appointment to get the a/c in the car fixed....again.  I had an appt. two weeks ago and they called it off because they thought the new (used) part was defective.  I'm glad of that.  I hope today goes well.  But I'll be home with no car.  They will bring me back home and then bring the car and I'll take the guy back to the shop.

Aside for that, I haven't decided what I want to do with the day.  Probable do some laundry and put some things back in place.  Maybe a little cleaning.  I might just go out and sit in a tree!  Oh no!  I won't climb the tree.  I have a chair that hangs in the tree.  It's very comforting to sit there and think...until I fall asleep.

JOY, I've always been a bit of a night owl, too.  Some of my best work is done between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.  And I never had any trouble sleeping at night.  Now, if I have a night when I sleep through, I consider it a bit of a miracle!  And I've been known to stay up indefinitely to finish a good book!  Even when we were kids, my sister and I would stay up to listen to the radio.  Many summer nights we heard the National Anthem as the radio station signed off for the night.  They don't do that any more, do they!

JUNE, it sounds like you are having a fun week at your place.  I know you enjoyed the dancing...especially your own participation.  No wonder you were tired!

I'm off to do my crossword puzzle and then get dressed.  Enjoy your day everyfriend!

Good morning everyone..

I am also up but not attem...my brain said get up but my body said NO!
We took the dogs to the lake yesterday,Golden Girl loves the water but the one Babe needed some coaxing. We didn't stay long just long enough to bath the two dogs. Worked around home in the garden planting more multiplier onions and putting sheep  fertilizer on. Jane the radisihes are doing great and since they are a fast grower it won't be long till we have fried radishes.

Joy, we are all in the same boat as you age isn't kind at times but it sure beats the alternative. Hope you have better days ahead.

June, way to go!!! You shake that bootie every chance you get......good for you!!! Your luncheon sound interesting, waiting to hear what your menu consists of today.

Shirley ,you are blessed with good health.Like you, I can't take the heat any more. Used to be out all the time in it working with my hubby  but not anymore.

Gloria, yesterday we had cooler temps plus there was a nice breeze blowing..humidity was low also. I was surprised that the lake water was not freezing cold as I was in up to my hips.

Larry, what a delicious meal you had, love ribs and baked beans. We will soon be hearing road noise as the highway is being re-done...I hope it doesn't take too long to do.

Better get attem,if I can find attem :)

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another very hot day.  I have already watered my lawn this morning.  I had thought I had set it to automatic but obviously hadn't so I had to manually set it this morning.  My main activity will be to pick up my friend and we will go to coffee for an hour.  I don't have any other errands to take care of this morning.  I think we may go out to eat for our main meal today but it will depend on how Pat is feeling this morning.  Scott was out for awhile but was so weary from working extra long hours that he didn't stay very long after our dinner.  The ribs and the rest of the meal were very tasty.  It was just the three of us for dinner.  We did get to speak to the youngest and the oldest of our great grandchildren on the phone.

Mary Ann, my mother mostly made strawberry jam with the excess berries from her large strawberry patch in the garden.  We ate a lot of fresh strawberries in season and she may have frozen some as we had a deep freeze while I was still at home.  We had about a two minute, if that, little shower yesterday afternoon from one of those popup showers.  You certainly have Kendrick trained to react to your actions.  Our cat pretty much refused such training.

Jane, you must have had long lines yesterday.  I don't think there are many of us could do what either you or Shirley or Amy seem to do everyday.  I am finding just unloading the dish water or hanging up the dried clothes to be exhausting.  I am trying to do the walking in the house that the lung doctor suggested and did do 10 minutes yesterday at one time with nitro and the oxygen and it is a boring activity even listening to an audio book but that helps. Sure glad that ladies eyes didn't roll under your check out counter yesterday.  :) I see a number of employees at Walmart who are obviously over 65 at our local store.
Sure hope they get your A/C working today as summer is upon us and know it gets hot up your way.

Shirley,  was the clearing out you did close to your house.  Glad you missed the hail.  I am glad you are healthy and without pain and I sure hope it stays that way for you and that is joyful news. We really didn't have much of a spring down here as it was either cold or hot.  I hope the fish were happy to see you yesterday.

June, if you were not "here" your computer is writing while you are asleep. :)  It sounds like you are enjoying the Hawaiian week and the activities.  Doing that hulu dancing must have tired you out.

Joy, isn't it frustrating to have had a good nights sleep and still wake up tired?  Sometimes when I set up in the mornings on the side of the bed I have to almost pant before starting the morning.  Pat has never required a lot of sleep but I see that pattern changing.

Lloyd, I was a bit worried about my dad when he left the farm at age 65 but he was always able to find enough to keep him as busy as he wanted to be without the responsibility of running the farm.  He lived to be 81 although the last couple years of his life were spent in the hospital and then the nursing home.

Amy, as I was reading your posting about bathing the dogs in the late whether you were also in the water and whether it wouldn't be cold.  If your road crews are like ours seem to be they start a project  and then leave it for awhile before continuing work on it.  The ribs were delicious and now so easy for Pat to fix.  After cooking them in the Instant Pot she puts them on a cookie sheet and puts BBQ sauce or special seasonings on them and broils them for just a few minutes.  They basically fell off the bone and were so tender last night.  It took them 27 minutes after the Instant Pot got the steam up to cook them and no constant turning and basting as she has done for many years when prepared in the oven.

Good morning everyone 65° now but will be a possinle 80 later. Lately I have to get outside in the morning, too hot in the afternoons.

LARRY  if my rollator cannot go with me I cannot go either. I used to be able to use the shopping carts but no more. Even my walks outside are getting shorter.

SHIRLEY  I was always healthy until 6 or 7 years ago when my back got to me. Other than that I am still healthy.

AMY  now you made me jealous, going swimming. Have not done that in more years than I can remember.

Better get moving CNA will be here soon and I am still in my robe and nighty.

Larry, I don't think I can take credit for training Kendrick; he has learned by observation that when I put on my dark glasses he can go out on the front stoop.  He doesn't always want to come in but he usually does OK.  The funny thing (to me) is when he balks at coming inside, I will put the broom up against the window of the storm door and he's ready to come in then.  I have never used the broom on him, but he knows what it means.  He also knows when it's 10 pm because he comes to me as if to tell me it is time to refill his food dish and water dish.  The main thing I have trained him is when I come into the house late and shout NO, he knows he cannot go out on the stoop.  That is when he takes off if we don't catch him (that he learned on his own!).

At 9:45 am it is 70 degrees.  Tom went out for breakfast and when he came back, he said it is very nice out.  It is Thursday and lawncare day so I will leave the doors closed until they're finished because those mowers are a bit noisy.

G'day All.
Well, at last the 'blue sky and sunshine' has arrived, the temperature has moved upwards and it now in the low 20's C again, our local forecasters are saying it should reach 28c early next week !,for us, that is hot, with a bit of humidity, nothing like the humidity that JaneS spoke of, thank goodness !, if it does touch the 28c mark it will only last 2/3 days, then finish with a almighty thunder storm !, for Larry, we are just a mile inland from the English Channel, on the edge of the 'South Downs National Park' in the county of Sussex and, if you are interested Larry where a couple of your 'Founding Fathers'  William Penn and Tom Paine came from.

                                                                                    Cheers.  Peter.   aka. roley.

ALOHA NUI ! That means I love you very much,  and I do. I am all dressed up for the celebration, and it will be much more, I'm sure, that this lady will be able to participate with for very long. But it is not to distant from my apt. so I can rest between periods of "makin' whoopee"l

Jane and June, I could not open the link either.  I know there is someone, possibly Bubble, who can fix the link.  June either included too much or left something off.

I even copied the link and put it in the search line and no luck.

I also tried every trick I know & couldn't get it to open.  I tried to find your "Gallery", June, but could not find the names of all with galleries we use (in here).

Thanks to all that cheered with me about a good doctor report..... I do realize anything can happen to change ... in an instant, but for this moment I feel very fortunate.

Larry, Pat's ribs sound delicious.  I've never mastered fixing them or brisket.... but I can compete with the best for eating!  The berm we cleared out is along the fence line between property next door... has neat rocks & plants but that darn Bermuda grass, vines, and scrub elm & mulberry trees invaded. This is not something the "yard guys" deal with.

Peter, the time I spent in England I actually enjoyed the cloudy, rainy days.  Don't know why, but "Singing in the Rain" is just born in me.... My family that lived in Seattle, Washington hated the dampness and mildew that goes with it, but I don't get depressed with clouds.  I do hide from the sun.

Mary Ann, my oldest son has always had a cat or two but they never go outside and don't yearn to.  Tom & Tiger don't try to get out like the old one did, when we are out camping.  (They don't get out at all while away from home.)  My son said for me to get a "squirt bottle"..... which I did (at the Dollar Tree), nothing but water in but those cats shape up immediately when I show them the bottle!  I  tell them to "go to the bedroom" & they hesitate.... until I pick up the bottle & like ornery kids, make a beeline to hop on the bed.  I have only had to squirt them a time or two & didn't even get damp, but they took it seriously.  Kendrick knows what the broom means so not "dumb" animals, for sure.

Gloria, I do remember those good ole days before the back acted up.  Like I've said, I know my life can change just as fast..... How is Regina doing these days?  All treatments over and back to building their dream world?  I love hearing about her life, the pioneers of today.

Girls, I'm not surprised the picture didn't open. I have never been able to operate any method of sending pictures, though I know I have.....a long time ago. I'll try one more thing.....sending it directly to Janie, just to see if it works.

I was downstairs for today Hawaiian celebration for three hours and came home all pooped out and with an aching back. Still very tired so it will be a quiet evening for me. I love you all, always. Aloha Nui

Checking in late, so no one will probably read this until tomorrow...but at least I can now share the long awaited news that has been on our mind here for so long.

First I have to tell you that my dad fell this afternoon and he broke his hip.  I was on the telephone with him....he had just returned from a doctors appointment and just barely started to talk and down he went.  They are waiting for the orthopedic surgeon to come talk to them, and it has been hours now, and I am on pins and needles.  I feel so badly that I can not just get there fast to be with him.....

Diane, just called and they still have not seen or heard a word about surgery....they will not give him water or food but said they will not be doing surgery tonight for sure.

NEXT.....
Our son Mark was chosen to interview for the head golf pro job at a private golf club in Kauai Hawaii.  There were hundreds of applicants, he was narrowed down to 10 finalists, then down to 3.  He was flown over for a face to face interview.....and was told that the 3rd person was out already out of the running.  The last interviewee was there the 19th and 20th, and he was the one ultimately chosen.  Mark was sad and disappointed of course!  He is however logical enough to know that he did his best and sometime God knows better.  If it were not for the baby on the way they would have delighted to take on the challenge of this job.  Now they do not have to make that choice.   Now to the next thing....he has already been promoted in his current job and, there are things going on that eludes he will be given the head pro job right there....we just never know.  Thank you for listening to me.

PLEASE keep my dad in your prayers....I know he is in a lot of pain and has a tough road ahead.  Thank you.

Jenny

Jenny, prayers for your father and all the family.  My dad fell & broke his hip at about 94, they replaced it & he was showing off walking the entire hall right off the bat.... BUT, he did not keep up his exercises when he went home, would do them when the aid came out a few times the first week or so and then decided he liked being waited on so he never got his muscles back. He got a lot of attention because of his speedy recovery and would have probably been better off if they had sent him to a rehab place instead of home.... so hard to push them when they don't want to do what is best.  I hope your father does well and he can get motivated to move.  What a roller coaster your family is on with the hopes & dreams and right now, baby coming and all, maybe a chance to slow down and enjoy what they already have.  Hugs & prayers for all of you, don't stress if you can help....

Good morning everyone..

Another lovely day in the making here. Yesterday hubby wanted to go for a drive so off we went. It doesn't seem to matter where you go you run into road work and we did :)

Today we are off to the John Deere dealer in the city, seems hubby, misplaced the key for the lawn tractor...as soon as we get another key the lost one will turn up.

Jenny I agree with Shirley, what a roller coaster ride you are on! Prayers for your Dad ,my friend was 92 when he broke his hip and came right along with it, he did walk with rollator but he didn't let that stop him. Sounds like Mark is appreciated at his job now and you never know where that will go.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Jenny, I can see why you've been on pins and needles, especially since your dad's fall.  I'm also 94 and watch very carefully where and how I walk.  I know sometimes that doesn't make any difference; a person falls anyway.  I hope your dad gets along OK.  And I think you'll be more happy to have Mark and family closer to home and not half way across an ocean.  But that would have been fun, too.

Good morning everyone 59° now but will warm up later. For a change I slept good last night. Feel awake and that is great. Lately feel like staying in bed.

MARY ANN  Wednesday is when the land scapers come here. They start at 7am with their mowers and weed wacjers and leaf blowers. When I first moved here I woke early and was outside early. I was wa ching the wind blow the dust into the air and realized it  was heading for my windows. Came up as fast as the elevat or would take me and shut my windows. Too late, had dust on everything.

PETER  around here when it gets hot the humidity rises. That is when I stay inside with the air conditioner running. Seldom even a breeze on days like that.

JUNE  I am sure you enjoyed all he Hawaii celebraion even if you cannot participate. Cannot open what you wanted to share.

SHIRLEY  like you I stay out of the sun. When we used to go camping at North Truro on Cape Cod I always liked a cloudy day. When I was young I loved walking in the rain or when it was snowing. There are a few more things to do in my daughter's new home inside and my SIL has been working outside clearing brush away from the house. He has more solar panels to set up and a windmill to put up. She always said she was born in the wrong century, she would have been a good pioneer. Well she is just about that now but with some modern convenients. They are both enjoying it after the noise and polution of San Diego.

Does anyone have a problem with their keyboard skipping a space when typing? I try to keep checking for those spaces so I can backspace to get rid of them. Anoying.

JENNY  I am so sorry about your Dad falling. I will be praying for a fast healing after the surgery. We have a 100 year old lady here who broke her hip almost 3 years ago. She was in the hospital and into rehab for a total of almost 4 weeks. Now her family insisted she use a rollator. Before that she never used the elevator but used the stairs. She still goes out and walks around the parking lot. No keeping her down. She is also blind, can faintly see the shape of the cars so knows where she is. She is such a wonderful lady. God knows why Mark did not get the job in Hawaii. Things always work for the best.

AMY  hope you can get that key with no problems.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny morning that started out at 75 degrees and headed into the high 90's.

When I got up this morning I worked on Pat's printer and it seems to be printing OK now.  It kept telling me I didn't have a real HP print cartridge in for the yellow color but I did.  I had another one so put it in and after turning the printer off and back on it finally decided to print out the test page I had created. I am still interested in getting the color laser printer but will put that on hold for the time being.  I have nothing particular on my schedule for today other than to fix Pat's breakfast when she gets up.

We did not go out to eat yesterday so perhaps may do so today.  We still had a couple of the stuffed peppers from Costco in the freezer so we had that with a salad of cottage cheese and pineapple and topped it off with an ice cream bar.  It was very tasty and very easy to prepare.

I have enjoyed looking at the cam sites this morning and those little kittens were very active and so cute.  I sent that link to Pat and the kids.  The bears were not at the falls this morning and the eagles were not active and it was a bit difficult telling them from the tree trunk and branches.  I will check on them later.

Gloria, Pat does better walking than just standing still.  However, after a bit she needs to sit down. She does need to walk more but I won't nag her about it as she is an adult and wouldn't appreciate it as I wouldn't if the tables were turned.  Fortunately I still have good mobility but just no endurance.

Mary Ann, I think pets have internal clocks that tell them it is now time to eat.  We hear the noise of the yard people for it seems like hours on the day they work our neighborhood each week.  However, they do a good job and the yards look nice.

Roley, that sounds like nice weather.  I checked to see what the 20's C would be in the way our temperatures are measured and they sound good to me.  I didn't know about your area being where William Penn and tom Paine came from.

June, nice to see you were up to "makin' whoopee" yesterday.  Hope you had a great time.  The reason your photos cannot be seen is that they are not on a server that others can see since other cannot access your computer.  I see you are going to send it to Jane or you could send it to Bubble as she has indicated a willingness to post pictures for others and often does.

Jenny, so sorry to hear of your dad's fall and his broken hip.  I am sure they will have him back on his feet shortly after surgery and give him the medication to control the pain while he is awaiting surgery and afterwards.  Falling seem to be the bane for us as we age and our bones are more brittle.  Sure glad that Diane was with him and got him the help he needed.

Sorry that Mark didn't get the job in Hawaii but it sounds like he will have other opportunities before long as he made it up so high in the selection process. At least they don't face another move so soon after relocating there in California and they will still be closer to you all when the baby arrives. It is great he has already been promoted.

Amy, I expect the winters are hard on your roads.  One of the benefits of living in the South is that our roads are not terribly affected by the weather.  However, we also get quite a bit of road repair as the pavements just wear out after many years of use.  I hope you will be able to get the new key you need for the lawn tractor.

Shirley, thanks for the information on the berm clearing.  It seems scrubs and trees can grown very quickly along with grasses we don't want to get tall.  We used the "squirt bottle" with our cat and it worked very well although he always did pretty much what he wanted to do.

Thank you for the positive thoughts and prayers.  It has been really difficult to find out any information at all from the hospital.  No one calls Diane to let her know what is going on and they are not answering any phone calls.....  Truth is, I know they are spread pretty thin at the hospitals these days, but...... I thankfully was able to talk to my Dad just a few minutes ago.  He sounded very loopy from drugs, but he responded very appropriately to me, and I am just so thankful I was able to get to tell him I love him, etc.  He has never seen or talked to a surgeon yet, but he is scheduled for surgery at 12:30 today.  They never did let him have anything to drink or eat.  I loved the stories that you all shared about others that have been through this and how they have recovered.  I must say that I feel my dad is about the best candidate to be able to recover from this as he truly is quite healthy for his 94years of age.  Thank you all again for your support.

I also appreciate the kind words about Mark and Megan.  They both are feeling the sense of relief now that they are not having to face the challenges that this Hawaii move would have caused them.  They said that they feel that God is watching over them and now they will put their thoughts into my dad and his recovery.

I hope to report later today that my dad is out of surgery and doing fine.  I hope and pray he one of the ones that is up and walking soon AND most of all that he will cooperate and do the required exercises to help him build up his strength again.

I did get your picture of you, JUNE, in your Hawaiian outfit.  You are as cute as can be and I, too, wish I could help you to get it posted for EVERYFRIEND to see.  If anyone would like me to share it, just email me and I will forward it on.

Well, this was a productive trip!! We did get the key for the lawn tractor and I also got one......just in case lol Made sure the new key is on a BRIGHT RED  strap so if it does go MIA we will be able to see it.Stopped at a market and bought some strawberries and a few baked goods.
Think I will go sew for a bit.

My Dad is out of surgery.  They replaced the ball and joint, but said it is not a total hip replacement.  I do not know what the difference would be?  He is expected to be taken back to his room very soon and the doctor said he feels he will do very well.  My Dad is skin and bones so I know the doctor did not have to go through too much tissue to get the job done.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Hi Everyfriend,  this thing did not bring me back to the Soda Shoppe this morning but I was in such a hurry I didn't notice.  I had an earlier than usual day at WM today and things to do before and after my shift.

It's been one of those weeks around here and I'm not sorry to see it end.  I do take time to offer prayers for those who need them and support to those who need that.

JENNY, you've had quite a bit of excitement in your life lately.  My prayers are for your father and for the kids that they have what suits them best for now.

JUNE, I have your picture, too.  Amy forwarded it to me and it's hanging in my office.  You're my inspiration!

Just heard today that my granddaughter, Natalie has been offered a permanent position at Menninger Clinic where she has been working for more than a year now.  She did a semester of internship while she worked on her Master's Degree and then after graduation was offered a job and now a permanent position in the Psychology Department.  I'm so proud of her you can probably see the glow from wherever you are!

Amy jogged me this time when she sent me June's photo and wondered why I hadn't posted.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Thanks for the update, Jenny... and I think Amy has a good idea if you think it wouldn't confuse/upset him with cards from strangers. Maybe if we sent to his house & Diane could take to him in case they move him to re-hab too fast?  You can send his/their address if you will???  At 95 my father was also skin & bones, was one time I think if we had lived closer I could have made a difference in his getting better.  I know it hurts you to not be able to help...

I didn't get to see June's photo.... been over to Photos & it wasn't there.   :tissue:  Anybody send to Bubble to post?

Amy, I still have the John Deere key Cas gave me so HE wouldn't lose it... and have his hanging on a nail in the garage so the only one that ever gets used.  The park department has been mowing the hill often enough this year so my son hasn't needed to start up JD to clear off the hill for me. Better go take a walk to the river to feed fish... I'm a little sorry people seem to think it's okay for them to monopolize MY landing & scared off MY fish....

Congratulations to Natalie, Jane!  Impressive offer. My gr-son that majored in Bio-med Engineering is still working for the company he interned with but they have not followed through with promises of the necessary insurance, etc. Sadly, not many places in KS for that type work & I can't convince him to go back for his Masters.  Glad Natalie's going with such a fine place.  Too bad they aren't in Kansas anymore or you might come visit her & we could meet.

I just received this from a young friend, and I know you will all love it as I do.

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."   Helen Keller

A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper-wrapped package:

'This, - he said - isn't any ordinary package.'

He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box.

'She got this the first time we went to New York , 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on, was saving it for a special occasion.

Well, I guess this is it.

He got near the bed and placed the gift box next to the other clothing he was taking to the funeral house, his wife had just died.

He turned to me and said:

'Never save something for a special occasion.

Every day in your life is a special occasion'.

I still think those words changed my life.

Now I read more and clean less.

I sit on the porch without worrying about
anything.

I spend more time with my family, and less at work.

I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to, not survived through.

I use crystal glasses every day...

I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket, if I feel like it.

I don't save my special perfume for special occasions; I use it whenever I want to.

The words 'Someday...' and ' One Day...' are fading away from my dictionary.

If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see, listen or do it now.

I don't know what my friend's wife would have done if she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning, this nobody can tell.

I think she might have called her relatives and closest friends.
She might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels.

I'd like to think she would go out for Chinese, her favorite food.

It's these small things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come.

Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.

Live for today, for tomorrow is promised to no-one.

If you got this, it's because someone cares for you and because, probably, there's someone you care about.

If you're too busy to send this out to other people and you say to yourself that you will send it 'One of these days’, remember that 'One day' is far away... or might never come...

No matter if you're superstitious or not, spend some time reading it. It holds useful messages for the soul.

Share  this message with others

I want to thank you kindly for those who complimented me on the Hawaiian picture. I thought it was sort of dumb looking, so your comments are doubly appreciated.  I have this section on my mac titled Photo booth, where you can see yourself and then take a picture, merely touching a button. When I first got this Mac I used it a lot, but as with everything "age" related I forget how to use what I have available. I was having so much fun learning about the word "Aloha", I wanted to send you all an Aloha nui kiss. I wish I knew how to avail myself to sending things to Bubble.

Today we had an early Red Hatters singing program, then I stopped by the big screen where they were showing more information on Hawaii. Very interesting.  Then it was lunch time, so I ate downstairs, came home, kicked off my shoes, lay down with my book and woke up THREE HOURS later. Then on to catch up with all of your messages on the Mac.I hope as long as I live that we will always have this time on the computer with one another. We are a family, just as close as a family can be.....my feeling anyway.

Time to go find a light supper in my little kitchenette and then perhaps take a walk around the gardens. Have a GOOD night my dear ones. I love you much. God is watching over us, and isn't that a wonderful thought. ?  June

Good morning everyone..

Restless night but woke to see we had rain overnight and may get more. No hanging laundry out today, we NEED the rain so tis ok.

Going into town to pick up a filter for the lawn tractor and then home to play catch up and laundry.

Thank you Bubble for posting the photo of our calendar girl..she is one amazing hula lady!

will be back later need to get going.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, 58° and gloomy. Looks like the week end will be humid with chance of rain and thunder storms late. Not a great week end.

Larry I do better walking but cannot walk far without leaning on the handles of the rollator. I can no longer straighten my back, bending over more and more. I always stood straight and sitting the same. When I get  a glimpse of myself in a mirror I am shocked to see my back now. I do walk outside every day but not  as much as I used to. Seems like here no matter where one drives they run into road repairs. Winter weather is hard on the roads along with all the big 18 wheelers. The governor has started taxing those big rigs to travel on our roads and the truckers are furious.

JENNY  hope your Dad is not feeling much pain. Prayers for a rapid recovery.

JANE  you must be "busting your buttons" with pride about Natalie.

JUNE  thanks for posting that story. I had read that years ago, this time I saved it. Love your new picture, added it to others I have saved from the days of SN.

AMY  we need rain here, too. Last month we had too mch and this month we had less than normal.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  This Saturday is starting out overcast and at 70 degrees.  It will be in the 90's again this afternoon.  Last evening late we did get a little rain shower.  The high this afternoon will be 94 degrees and I expect to be inside where it is cool when that happens.  Pat and I went to the Dollar Tree and then to Dairy Queen for our main meal of the day.  She used the transport chair as a rollator while at Dollar Tree and could sit down and look at the card.  There was only one problem and that was she didn't realize there were brakes on the chair so when she was sitting it in it kept moving backwards.  I just checked as my memory was it does have breaks.  So next time perhaps that won't be a problem for her.  I plan on attending a meeting this morning and will also stop at the Post Office for a roll of stamps that Pat needs for her Sunday School class card ministry.  Later this afternoon I will tune in to the PGA Golf Tournament and that will be it for today.

Jenny, glad you were able to talk with your dad after his surgery.  I bet he likely won't even remember you called because of the medications he is on.  I bet he is well aware of how much you love him but we can never be told that too much.  Glad the surgery is over for him and the healing and rehab can begin.  Glad to see he is healthy and hope he will do the exercises needed for a good recovery.

Amy, not a bad idea to have a second key for the lawn tractor.

Jane, nice to read of your granddaughter getting the permanent position at Menninger's Clinic.

Shirley, do those fish know they belong to you?  :)  Nice to see your parks department is saving your son from having to mow the hill.  It seems that many companies forget the promises made to employees before employment.  I learned years ago that if you don't have something in writing don't count on it happening.  Insurance is certainly an important thing in this day and age.

June, I saw your nice picture that Amy sent me of you decked out with the Hawaiian costume and the lei around your neck.  Good advice in the little list of things to keep in mind in terms of our life.  I had seen it before but it is worth a reread.

Bubble, thanks for posting June's picture here so that all may view her beautiful smile that projects her loving personality.

Gloria, I also don't realize I have a hump at my back neckline as I don't feel like it.  I guess it represents too many years sitting at a desk and working on the computer. It is my understanding from years working with the Federal Highway Administration that it is the big trucks that weigh so much that do such damage to our roads along with the weather.  However, that is just a fact of life.  I hope you and all who post or visit here will have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're having on and off rain today and much cooler weather.  It is only supposed to get into the mid 70s today and tomorrow, too.  Not great swimming weather for the kids but great for the old folks.

Like some of you noted you are, I'm also one who never was a sun worshiper.  Even when I was a kid, I preferred to curl up on the porch swing on a rainy summer day and read a book and listen to the rain on the roof, the bushes and the ground.   I still like that.  And I loved walking in the snow as it came down...still do!  I remember one day when I was about 13, my mother was looking for me and she asked my sister where I was.  She said, "It's snowing, isn't it?  She's probably out in it!"  And I was!

Thanks for rejoicing with me over Natalie's good work!  She's certainly a special granddaughter and she found herself the perfect husband.  They enjoy the same things and do a lot together.  I have no doubt that when the time comes, they will be great parents.

My daughter Cathy is coming over today to paint my porch swing.  Only in this case, it's a "yard" swing.  I get to help her and I'm thinking my help will consist of being her "go-fer".  She'll say, "do you have a ???"  and I'l "go-fer" it.

Just had a nice long chat with my daughter who lives in Maryland.  She texted me something and after I answered, she called and we talked about a very large variety of family things and even reminisced a bit.  It was lovely.  Not as good as a face to face visit but it sure beats texting!

I wish you all a day just as you wish it.  Make it your best ever!

Taking a break from cleaning drawers - first in the bathroom and in the closet.  All those little samples are going to be donated.

Jane:  I really like walking in the snow and own old-fashioned snowshoes.  My parents had a cabin in the deep woods by a creek and we all pulled a sled with food for Thanksgiving.  I like driving in snow too - miss the thump thump of the road.  Now, of course, it would be foolish to drive in the snow as few people know how to control their vehicles.

Don has been helping our friend and was able to install Ooma for her, it means she will pay far less for long-distance calls.  We have used it for years and take it with us if going for some time.

Jenny:  Thank goodness, we missed the hail.  So sorry to learn that your dad had fallen.  Perhaps because he did not have a total hip replacement, he may heal faster.  It sounds like he is well cared for and will need rest at this time.  Hawaii does sound exotic and great for lifestyle but... everything has to be shipped there and it is terribly expensive.  This means you can be closer to the newest baby due....when?

We are having a cool cloudy day again..high of 75,so a sweater feels comfortable. A quiet day here for a change, and welcome.....there will be a program at 6:30 this evening. I have no idea if it is a movie, or a live performance, but I will attend. It is titled Darling Divas "Golden Oldies".

There is so much I need to learn.....sending pictures to Bubble is high on my list, and using my camera again....it just sits there on a shelf. Shame on me.

I think half my life now is spent sleeping...at least eight hours a night, and three hours nap in the afternoon. But it keeps me going, and still able to swing my hips to a good song. So I should not ever complain.

Hoping to share more pictures in the future....Love you all. June

Good afternoon, very cool. rain on and off.

Jenny, I wrote to  you last night and lost the whole thing, when I went to post. I feel so bad reading about your Dad. I know thedoctors do wonders with us old people, so I am sure he will be up and around,You know you cannot keep us 90 year olds down.  Look at our Hawaiian June :) My prays are for your dad, along withall your cyber friends,

I know how proud you are of Mark, that he has gone so far.  But as my mother use to say "everything happens for a reason" Maybe it is best he does not make a move now

Started to post earlier, but I have been on the phone a lot with Diane.

She was not one bit happy to tell me about what transpired last night.

Diane had to contact the head of nursing after she found out they had left dad in a chair for over 4 hours in spite of him asking over and over to be put back in his bed.... AND he was told they would bring him a tray of food as he had not had any food or water since breakfast the day before.  He kept lighting his light and they would say, “someone will be there in a minute”!  Mind you, he had just been brought to his room from post op a hour or so before.  They kept him on a no food and water just INCASE the doc decided to come in and do the surgery Thursday night.  Doc was not happy when Diane talked to him after surgery around 1 PM yesterday afternoon when she told him this as he told the staff he would not be in to do it before morning!  Oh my.  He said he could see them out in the circle chatting and laughing.....so they were not running around being busy, so he could not understand why they could not come take care of him

Dad said they did come right in and got him in bed and brought a tray of food.....so it seems Diane’s call did help.....but, that is not acceptable care.  We all know the best care you get is after surgery then it can be downhill from then on!  Hopefully things will be better today.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Jenny

Now to comment on the posts......

JANE, so good to read your happy news about Natalie.  Congratulations to her on obtaining this prestigious position.  I know you all are so proud and happy for her.

SHIRLEY, I shared in the good news about your doctor report.  So happy to read you are doing well.  My Dr. Dave also has a Bio-medical engineering degree, just like your Grandson! I am glad they are keeping the grasses cut down by the river for you.  I had to smile at the thought of the JD key hanging in the garage just Incase the tractor is needed.  I would delight in jumping on that tractor and taking it for a spin!  I think my dad would be thrilled to death to hear from my special friends.  I will happily give anyone his address to send him a greeting.  Thank you, AMY for this kind thought.  Even if you prefer to send him a Email message he would enjoy that too.

JUNE DEAR, I told you we ALL would like and enjoy your special Aloha nuit greeting in that darling picture of you!  AND, yes, it is a wonderful comfort knowing that GOD is watching out for all of us.

CAROL, I found out this morning that the doctor did do a front entry for the replacement of my dad’s hip, so that alone should make it a easier recovery.  All of the family are down at Mile High Stadium right now watching a Rugby Match that they bought tickets for months ago.  I am sitting the two younger grands.  Friends from Lake Oswego Oregon even flew in to go with them!  We sure have been enjoying the nice weather...not looking forward to the 90’s returning!  Mark called a bit ago to check oh his grandpa, and mentioned that both he and Meg are now relaxing and cherishing the burden of how difficult this HI move would have been for them.  It was announced at his job today that he has been promoted to the next level.....baby is due the first of December.  IF he decides to come on June and my birthday the day before, the 30th, that will be just fine too!

GLORIA de, I thank you for your kind words both for my dad and Mark.  You 90 year olds these days are hard to keep down!  We all know that!  My dad is a strong man and I know he will be fine.  Mark is the first to say, “it just was not meant to be”!  We all know this is true.

I must pay some attention to the kiddos.

Have @ great rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

Jenny dear, I think it is disgraceful the lack of care that your father received in that hospital. The way they treated him could have killed him. God was surely watching over him and keeping him alive.

I had a surprise visit from my oldest Grandson, his sweet wife and their three grown children. I hadn't seen them for so long it was a wonderful surprise. R.J. is a policeman, two steps down from being a lieutenant . They had been out to dinner so didn't stay long and I was able to get myself down for the program tonight...it was two ladies singing  songs from the 4o/5o era. Then I came home for a late but light supper. Now it is time to get ready for book and bed. Sleep well dear hearts. Love, Hugs and Prayers. June

And here I am to say a quick GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND!  It's a cooler day today and suppose to stay in the mid 70s today with some possibility of rain.

Daughter Cathy was here yesterday doing some things for me and she made me tired just watching her.  She's coming back sometime today to finish up and among other things, I'll have a nice bright blue swing in my yard and the eyesore of a dirty old white one will be gone.

I have to go get ready for church and then after church, I'll make a quick stop at the Farmers Market for the things I need for my Alaska casserole tomorrow.  It has salmom in it and I'm looking forward to trying it out.  I wonder if Patricia/Angelface would approve?

Enjoy your day Everyfriend.  I'm not sure what mine will bring.  I'll be back when I can!

G'Morning all.
Hi Lloyd, hope you are feeling better and still taking it easy !, it's still very dry here and the temperature is climbing, the forecast is 28c this week !, as I said last time, I expect it to end with a thunder storm before long !, at  the very least, the farmers will be happy !.
Larry:  Looking around I found another great 'Armchair Walk' that's just suitable for us wheelchair walkers and their elderly friends !, it is a stroll through a old market town close to where we live, there is no commentary and by the look of the sunlight and shadows it was filmed in early morning, many of the old cottages are built of Flint also several  of the old walls you pass are also built of Flint and like the older buildings go back several hundred years, the narrow path's that you will walk along are called (TWITTENS) in the Sussex dialect,  Google >>   Richard Vobes. armchair walks. a stroll through steyning in west sussex.youtube   <<, hope you and any of your 'wheelchair friends' will enjoy the stroll around, there are some nice old country Pubs in the area too !, maybe we can share a pint !.

Hi Everyone.  We are headed to a 99 degree day with an even higher heat index.  The first thing I did this morning after getting dressed for Church was to make a quick trip to Walmart for a few items we were out of.  I am going to go to Sunday School and Church.  Yesterday Pat said she would like to go to Church today but hasn't made a final decision yet. I told her that I will go through a drive thru to pick up something for our lunch so I didn't to to make another trip in the heat as getting in the car after church will be enough.  This is going to be plenty for today.  I still have to make her breakfast and empty the dish washer but she said she wasn't in a hurry for her breakfast and that she wanted me to sit down and eat my breakfast and rest a little bit.

My time before I have to leave the house is limited so will try to remember to come back after this afternoon to comment.

Good morning everyone 62° and another day of possible showers and late day thunder storms. Does not feel hot enough for that.

Nothing happening around here and nothing to chat about. Anyone with arthritis knows what  this damp weather does to them. All I want to do is lay down but that does no good either.

LARRY  glad the transport chair worked for Pat and she could shop. What is a transport chair? Is it like a wheel chair? There is a wheel chair here in the exercise room for a resident to use ii needed. Wound not work for me because you have to turn the wheels and with my shoulders I cannot do that.

JANE  for many years my youngest sister in law and I would go for a walk in the snow, especially the first one of the year. I miss that. As good as the walkways here are cleaned of snow I will no longer do that but will go sit on the porch and enjoy it. I talk to my daughter every day on Skype but it is not the same as being together.

CAROL  too many new drivers every year who do not know how to drive in the snow or even on the roads at any time.

JUNE  as long as we wake every morning and can still move we are lucky.

JENNY  at times I wonder why some nurses took that career when they do not belong in a hospital.

PETER will have to try that.

BUBBLE  thank you for the link to Peter's site. I have never been good for hunting for something online.

AMY  what time is dinne? Scalloped potatoes and ham always went together for me and my daughter still makes them together. One of my favorite meals. One of my sons makes scoppoped potatoes from a package but not like home made, to me they are like glue.

Have a good day.

Around here, you can't have meat loaf without scalloped potatoes!  It's a given!

Cathy just left to do some errands and my "yard" swing is a beautiful shade of blue.  She even painted the stand that holds it.  That's black.  I can't wait to see it together but she says the swing needs another coat and she's going to do that tomorrow.

I did a bunch more weeding while she painted.  It's beginning to look pretty good out there.

I've taken a walk through West Sussex and I enjoyed it!  Thanks for the link!

Hi Everyone.  It is almost 4 pm but said I would come back later today so here I am for better or worse.  Pat didn't go to Church.  I wasn't able to reach her by phone so got in the car and came home only to get a call from her just as I turned into our small development saying she wasn't going.  So l turned the car around and went back down to Church.  Fortunately the man who provides golf cart transportation to attendees who need help with the long walk was waiting in front of the Church and I motioned to him and he followed me to where I parked and quickly brought me back up to the entrance of the Church.  After the service I got a ride back to the car.  I did pick up our lunch at Bojangles and after lunch took a nice nap.  I just came in from the hot garage where I reset my sprinkler system.  Right now we are at 98 degrees outside but nice and comfortable in the house.

Jane, we have never had an outside swing and I have always enjoyed them.  Unfortunately where we would put ours would be in the sun most of the day and most often it is too humid to be comfortable outside.  I bet yours is very pretty now and will be mores so after the second coat of paint.

Carol, one of the blessings of being retired is that we don't have to drive in the snow anymore to get to work.  Of course where I live now snow is certainly not a problem as we seldom get any and it never stays on the ground very long.

June, I always enjoy hearing the songs of the 40's and 50's.  You could always understand the words and there would be a nice tempo.  I simply detest rap songs and the almost screaming  of many of today's singers.  However there still are some great singers who have beautiful voices and nice accompaniment.

Jenny, your dad received terrible treatment and you all certainly have reason to be very upset.  I sure hope this doesn't have any long term ramifications to his health.

Peter, thanks for the link and I will certainly check some of these out.  I have always enjoyed the British TV series as the setting are so nice to see and the many flowers.

Amy, hope you didn't get a speeding ticket when you rushed to pick up the fabric scraps.  :)  Pat likes to make scrappy quilts.

Gloria, a transport chair is like a wheelchair but designed to carry in a car and isn't nearly as heavy as a wheelchair.  We got the one we have to use with Stacey as we often had to take her to medical appointments before she got the electric riding carts and then the wheelchair.  They are fine on flat and smooth surfaces  but just like a wheelchair are a bit difficult to push up a grade or over carpet.  Since a pictures is worth a lot of words here is the link to the exact chair we have.  In our move the foot pieces, which detach, seem to have been lost but Pat will not be using it as a wheelchair but as a rollator type device.  https://express.google.com/u/0/product/8625618789273197526_4093165380246132678_118724597?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=tu_cu&utm_content=eid-lsjeuxoeqt,4164936&utm_campaign=118724597

I was able to open Larrys clickable, but the chair was distorted almost like some straight dark lines. I have had that happen with another program.

I woke at three a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep, so this has been a very dull day for me. Read and napped after I had a big lunch down stairs, so I plan to stay at home for the rest of the day. I did get to Church and enjoyed. If I don't get back to say goodnight, know that I will have you in my prayers. June

chair and see  how it could
easily be converted to a rollator
type ... for easy to roll and a place to sit
when necessary ....

I had no problem seeing it.

I might think of getting one for the future..

Good evening.

My dad has been moved to rehab this afternoon ......he must be doing very well or this is just another example of quickly they boot you out of the hospitals!  The surgeon said he would be in the hospital for 3 days....I guess that counts the day of surgery, which was Friday.  I have to admit I was quite surprised when I heard at 4 PM that he would be moved.  I certainly hope his care is better at this rehab center than it was at the hospital.

I wish you all a good night of rest.

Good morning everyone....

Nice sunny ,chilly morning here 46° and a light wind. I don't mind this at all ,great for working in but I am sure we will get hot before the day is  out.
Taking hubby to the foot clinic ,then home to sort and iron some of the fabric I got yesterday.

Gloria, you would be most welcome the trouble with buying a ham is one needs company to help eat it. Will fix up a plate and take it over to the neighbours later. I did put the ham bone with lots of meat in the freezer to use for baked beans later on.

Larry, I could open your link and that is the same one we have. The transport one was a blessing when hubby wasn't too good on his legs and couldn't walk very far.

Jane, I bet your swing is beautiful..I enjoy mine when I get time to be there.

Jenny, they don't keep them  down long. I do think that it is better to get them up and moving so pneumonia doesn't set in.

Better wake one dog so she can have her breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone 63° now but will go up to the high 70 or low 80s later. Just heard we could have our first heat wave next week end.

PETER  in yesterday's link all I got was someone talking about an abanded canal.

LARRY  in the temperature you had yesterday I would not go out the door. Thanks for the link.  I am not ready for that yet but will save the link. Takes less room than the rollator when folded. Looks like something I saw when I went online looking for rollators. I saw one that converted to a wheel chair.

JENNY  gosh that seems fast to be out of the hospital but the lady here who had a hip replaced was out of the hospital and into rehab in just 3 days, too. Everyone was surprised. Looks like they get them up and out fast now.

JANE  hope that shift is an easy one for you.

AMY  ham is one meat that can be used in a lot of ways. I would save a ham bone and make a vegetable soup like my Mom made or a pea soup. Both soups freeze good too.

Count me in too Gloria, i just love 'Pea and Ham' soup made with the ham bone,  when i was in hospital for five weeks at the beginning of the year, my wife used to bring me in a flask of hot 'Pea & ham' soup !, it worked wonders too !, much better than the notorious hospital food !, lol.

Hi Everyone.  We are headed for another very hot day.  Last night a heavy thunderstorm hit us and we got about an inch of much needed rain.  I had just started by sprinkler system when the rain started so went into the garage and turned the sprinklers off.  We may see similar storms develop in the next day or so.  It rained for about two hours and the lightning and thunder continued through all that time.  I have nothing planned for today so will just take things easy as am feeling the results of a pretty busy weekend, especially yesterday morning.

Jane and others, I am sorry about that link.  I had forgotten that I was signed in to Amazon so that was trying to show what I was seeing.  Let's try this one:  https://www.spinlife.com/Drive-Medical-Traveler-Lightweight-Transport-Chair-Lightweight-Transport-Wheelchair/spec.cfm?productID=85972  This looks exactly like the chair we have.  I hope you don't wear yourself out before you get to work this late afternoon or it will be a long shift for you.

Amy, have you ever purchased just the center cut ham slices.  We use these rather than buying hams anymore.  They come 3 to a package at Costco so we freeze a couple until we are ready to eat them.  I agree those transport chairs are a blessing and much easier to handle than a wheelchair.  Initially with Stacey we used an old wheelchair that our Church had available for loan.  It was very heavy and difficult to get in and out of the truck of the car.  Pat's back doesn't like her being on her feet so the chair part is ready to be used at anytime.

Gloria, as long as the person who takes you places can handle the rollator then the transport chair would probably not be indicated since it serves basically the same purpose.  Pat needed a heavy duty rollator as she isn't a light weight and thus it was heavy to deal with.  I haven't seen the ones that convert to a wheel chair but glad to know about them.

Mary Ann, that is strange that you got to the page and Jane didn't.  The link above is just the same except it is from a site I have never visited before so would be tied to me.

June, I expect you have seen many transport chairs as people came to take their loved ones out for awhile.  They look very much like a wheelchair but have small wheels.  Glad you were up to attending your Church service yesterday.

Sandy, I had forgotten about the brakes on the back wheels that would address the problem Pat had using the transport chair for the first time. I think it will serve the purpose at least for awhile and after she gets used to using it she may like it more.  Pat's initial reaction on the first use wasn't great but that was because it moved when sitting in it as we hadn't remembered the brakes, as I mentioned above.  The next time out when she uses it the brakes can be used and hope she will like it more.

Jenny, your Dad is probably in a much safer place in rehab as there is such a danger of infection and catching something in the hospital.  Hopefully they will give him much better care.  If I recall Pat came home after three days as her sister or our DIL came to help out, I can't remember which.

Roley, I bet your wife's cooking tasted wonderful after having hospital food for so long.  I was always put on a heart diet in the hospital and talk about boring and really not very appetizing food that fits the bill.

Larry, you mentioned the first link was from when you were on Amazon.  For some reason or other, I seem to have an Amazon icon on my computer so I wonder if that is the reason I could bring up the link.

At nearly 10:30 am, I still am not fully awake.  I think we're headed for a warm day, maybe not in the 90s yet.  We're close to 70 degrees now.

I think articles said that Bubba Watson had not won a tour in several years, but I know he's been near the top.  The top prize money for those golfers is amazing - well over $1.5 million.  We should live so long!  Even those down the line make good money, especially when you consider they play in several tournaments a year.  I don't begrudge them the money especially when baseball, football and basketball players make around as much - and the golfers are "cleaner" than those in other sports.  At least we don't read about any such problems.

I am taking the day off. Just plain too tired to even think. I did my usual watering of house plants and it wore me out. Just one of those days, I guess. so home I will stay. Can order up meals if I so choose, but I would rather eat lightly and I have plenty of canned goods or frozen food on ha so off I
go to start another book and relax.Love to you all, and God's best Blessings. June

Another mystery solved today - I told everyone that my old laptop croaked when someone spilled something on it--- so that someone bought a newer HP with Windows 10.  So much adjusting & I am getting 4 to 6 emails from another country but could not get those blocked.  Got online with Hewlett Packard and they did not know what I was trying to do.  Don came through - we put my old Yahoo mail under bookmarks - Windows 10 changed the Yahoo mail and I did not see any BLOCK in the menu.

All is good now.  It should not have been this difficult.

Jenny:  Great that your dad is already in rehab.  I hope it isn't because the hospital try to meet quotas of care.  They would not want him to be returned to hospital, that is for sure.

June:  You can take as much vacation as you like - well deserved!

I'm home and I'm beat!  But it's really not any worse than working in the morning.  And the good news is, I can go to bed pretty soon.  I don't HAVE to do anything else!

So, just in case I fall asleep, I bid you all, GOOD Night!

Carol, I didn't understand a word your said but I'm glad your problem is solved.  I guess I don't "speak computer" as well as I thought I did.

Mary Ann, if a player wins tha e caddy I understand does well also.  Bubba thought last year was going to be his last as he has and illness or injury that was going to keep him from playing. I guess he solved the problem,as I think he came from 6 behind. I do like Casey also

It is past my bed time but I wanted to post that my dad did very well n his first day of rehab.  They had him up at 5:30, he showered and dressed before breakfast.  They told him not to have anyone come by or call him until after 5 PM as he would be kept very busy all day.  When I spoke to him he sounded real good and did not complain about anything at all.  He said he is eating a little bit more but still has no appetite. The staff doctor told him his blood level is quite low so they are working on building that up.  He assured him he is keeping a very close watch on that and if it drops any lower, they are able to give him a transfusion right there in the facility.  This is the first time he was made aware of this issue.  I do hope the doc keeps his word on this.

Tonight Bob walked out on the patio to water the plants and saw something move by him quickly....he thought our Kitty Smokey must have gotten out......no! It was a raccoon.  YIKES.  We have seen them out there before a few years back.....I hope he does not make a habit of hiding under our patio furniture.

I wish you all a good night of rest....pleasant dreams,

Jenny

And now I'm up!  I actually feel pretty good!  I  think I like this early evening time.  It still wasn't dark when I came home and as I said last night, I didn't really have to DO anything before I went to bed.

It's a bit cooler this morning than it's been and it looks like we're only heading for 79 as a high today.  That's not bad.

I have my Alaska casserole in the oven.  Turns out I didn't read far enough and it's a breakfast casserole...not dinner as I thought when I started it.  I'll let you know how it is!  Next week will be Arkansas and I think it's some kind of corn bread.  Should be good.  I like corn bread.

The doggies and I are waiting out the "boinger" for their pills while the casserole bakes.  The timing isn't perfect but it will allow them some begging time after they finish their own breakfast.

JENNY, it's so good hear that your father is doing well at rehab.  Sounds like he's in a good place.  Prayers continue!

I'll check back later to see what everyone is up to!  Enjoy your day!

Good morning everyone..

A beautiful cooler morning here but the weather guessers say we are in for a hot spell. We do need rain here and hope to get some soon.

VON here this morning, they are now coming every other Tue.I would think they will soon stop as it will be a year in July they stated. I purchased another gazebo yesterday only to find out that it is one for the ground and not on a deck that we would be using it for, plus the instructions left a lot to be desired. We will be taking that back to the store after VON.

June, hope you're feeling better today.

Jenny, that is good news about your Dad...hard to keep a good man down!

Jane, sounds like you're ready to meet the world, you must have had a good nights sleep. Is there any difference between Johnny cake and corn bread? The neighbour sent over Johnny cake with strawberries in it yesterday and I sent back ham and scalloped potatoes.

Carol happy to read everything is alright with your  computer.  I just got some cat-a tude fabric beautiful colours too.

Larry, thank you, I would look for them the next time we go to Costco. My friend told me about squash filled  ravioli  she got there and said it was good also. So I will be looking up both when I go.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Jenny, I am so pleased your father is doing so well. I read an article that a big % of us "older American's" are anemic or close to it, even a cause why some of us get a little "tipsy" when we move too fast..... iron carries the oxygen in the blood.  You might urge him to eat a lot of raisins along with the red meat & eggs (with yolk).  I keep looking for an address for him in my e-mail box, to send him a card, but as fast as they are moving him, probably wouldn't catch up unless sent to his home, right?  I'm grateful you share your father with us, probably not many still have their father to dote on. I lost mine in '94 at the age of 95, Mom died 5 years earlier. I have 2 boxes of mothballs at the back door to throw under a storage area "out back" where critters like to hang out. I used them in the berm a few years ago when we had lots of skunks, raccoons & opossum around. The Dollar Tree had boxes (for $1) so I keep them on hand, don't see those critters at all this year... so far.

I've put off as long as I can, cutting up & tying up the brush we cut out of the berm last week.  We're allowed 4 extra bundles each week, besides the dumpster so will take a few weeks to get rid of everything. Going to do that before a shower & then treat myself to a Panera breakfast.... I always do "carry out" when by myself and better hurry or I won't get done in time for breakfast hours!

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday (thanks, Callie)....  Larry, we got a full inch of rain in my gauge but radio said 1 & 7/8... a help but not nearly enough to save the grass/weeds on the hill.  In our sandy soil I had no problem going down to the river & even the river bed that is now beach... was not muddy. Back to upper 90s the rest of the week, with "feels like" 100+. Yuck!

Hi Everyone on a day that starts at 80 degrees and headed to the mid-90's.  Once again last night we had popup storms around the area.  We got maybe a quarter of an inch of rain as the storm didn't stay around very long.  I guess this is the time of the year for these storms.

Yesterday was really at down day and hoping to have more energy today.  I hate to admit it but I became a bit grouchy and that is not me.  I went to bed at 8 pm last night and had a good nights sleep.  I have the kitchen chores done except to fix Pat's breakfast when she arises.  Today is the run-off day for the Primary elections.  I hope to go vote as the polling place isn't very far from me at an elementary school.  The main race is the governor's race.  We had a good dinner last night as Pat had put together a meat loaf and we had some packaged steamer potatoes and some steamer white sweet corn and that made a good meal.  We will be using more of the frozen vegetables that come in the steamer bags as it made a quick and easy dish that is ready in the microwave in a few minutes.  Tonight may well be a TV dinner night as we have a couple in the freezer or a salad night.  The yard people are here bright and early this morning.  I just went out and told the young man doing the edging to skip our backyard this week.

Mary Ann, I wouldn't think the Amazon link would have anything to do with your having been able to see the link I shared but one never knows.  Actually Bubba Watson has won three times this year after the win last weekend and may be highly considered as the Player of the Year per an article I just read this morning.  He was ranked below 100 last season but is now in 17th place.  The prize money for the Open Championship paid the winner over $2 million dollars and I think all of the PGA Pro tour has top prize money over a million or more.  It is my understanding that the caddies usually get 10% of what the player wins. Jenny probably knows more about this than I since her son is a golf pro now.

June, sure hope you are feeling better today with more pep.  That Hula dancing must have been a little too much for you.  :)

Carol, glad you got the email problem sorted out.

Jane, glad you found the evening work not any worse than earlier in the day and it does have that added advantage of not feeling you need to be doing other work before bed time.

deAngel, I have found it interesting to search each week to see how the prize money in the golf match is distributed. Those players that do well take home some pretty big paychecks even when they don't win.

Jenny, glad you learned that you Dad did well on his first day of rehab.  It sounds like he has a great attitude and that is so important.  Does your area have a problem with raccoon's being rabid?  I sure wouldn't want to be around them.

Amy, hope you do get some rain without the storms soon and I am sure your garden would also appreciate it.  Does VON send the same person each time or do you get different people.  How do you use your gazebo?  Too bad you have to take the one back that you just purchased.  I think I would prefer my ravioli stuffed with cheese although I do like squash and we often have it that Pat fixes in a skillet or in a casserole.

Shirley, you were fortunate to have our father until the age of 95.  I lost both of my parents in their early 80's, which is kind of frightening considering I am fast approaching the ages when they died.  However, it is my goal to live past the early 80's.  Hope you enjoy the Panera breakfast.  We have had lunches there but never breakfast.

Bubble, thanks for posting the links for Peter.

Larry, I had read also about the caddies getting 10% of the golfer's winnings, so if the player gets $1 million, the caddie gets $100,000 and that's for just one weekend.  Even if they don't get that each weekend, they make out pretty good by the end of the year.

Carol, I had an idea what was happening with your e-mail, but I really didn't understand your post either.  I have to proofread my posts after I post them to see what I've said and I always have to correct something to have it make sense.  Even then, it may not.  As I've said, I explain things "clear as mud"!

Good morning everyone, a real sleepy head this morning. Woke at  4:30 and thought too early to get up turned over and woke a little after 9. Still sleepy.

PETER  I did use Bubble's link late yesterday and I enjoyed that trip. I loved the history and the buildings. Thank you.

LARRY  my thought was that at times even with my rollator it is hard to walk and they cannot push me in the rollator. I had checked several sites when I bought mine online and do nor temember where I saw the one that converted.

JUNE  I feel like you did yesterday, just worn out tired of doing nothing.

CAROL  hope you have better luck with your HP laptop than I have had with my HP desktop. Have had nothing but trouble since day 1.

JENNY  glad your Dad is doing so good.

SHIRLEY  have not been able to find mothballs around here for almost 10 years. Good to have around to keep critters away. I sure would go with you to Paneras for breakfast or lunch.

Just cancelled my CNA for today. Going to either go back to bed or on the couch.

Good morning.  I have not been here for a few days, as I just was not feeling all that good. So, wasn't doing very much on the computer. I was still having  problems with a UTI and really didn't feel well.  I decided to stop the medicine and I know now that was the culprit. I spent most of the week end in bed or in my recliner.  I did feel a lot better yesterday and even better today.   I did talk to the doctor's office and let them know that I had stopped the medicine.  I know you are supposed to take the full prescribed dosage of an antibiotic, but was told, that since I felt better that it was ok.

I didn't go back and read the last 2 pages of messages, so I do hope everyone is doing well.

It is a pretty sunny day out with the temperature going into the lost 80's.  Some showers on Wed and Thurs, and then a bit warmer, but a rain-free week end in store.  The last 3 or 4 weekends have been rainy with bad thunderstorms all around.

I am not sure if we will do anything for the 4th of July over the week end.  Makes it harder when the Holiday comes in the middle of the week.  Will  have to check with the family to see what is being planned.

I really need to get some chores done, as I have not felt up to doing very much for about  a week now.  Have only done what had to be done.  I know there is a pile of laundry calling me.

I will try to get myself back in gear soon.  And, not  be a stranger for so long.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Joy

Joy, I'm sorry to hear about your UTI.  I had it once for a few days and the antibiotic did take care of things.  I don't remember if I felt "blah" or not.  I've taken an antibiotic for various reasons over the years but I have had not adverse reactions to them.

All is well here.  I found out that tomorrow evening Tom and I are going to baby-sit the twins in Holland.  Tom will have to do most of the work as their beds are upstairs and I don't do stairs.  But I can love them.  I'll try to wear a metal necklace because they seem to like them.  One time I wore a pearl necklace and when one of the girls went after it, I knew that was the wrong thing to wear.  At that time, I put the necklace inside my blouse and it was none the worse for wear.  Live and learn!!!

I hope you continue to feel better.

Good afternoon

Jenny, so happy to hear your father sounds well  I have to  go to the dermatologist every two weeks to have my blood count check, some week I have to get a Peocert shot, it's now up to $990. a shot and medicare says if ai can have it if my count goes below 10. It did go to 5 when I was in the hospital and the set me up for a tranusion, but the doctor said first lets try the shot and it came up to 8, so I did not have to have the transfusion

Thank you all for the nice positive comments of support about my Dad and his progress.

GLORIA de, I forgot they said they were giving my dad shots for the low blood count, so maybe he is getting the Peocert Shot you are speaking of?  YIKES, a shot that costs nearly. Grand??  WOW.  It at least sounds like it worked well for you.

JOY, I, too, am sorry to read that you have not been feeling well.  I hope you continue to feel much better very soon.

SHIRLEY, I sent you my dad’s address and I thank you in advance for being so kind to send him a card.   He will be surprised and very happy to hear from anyone that does send him a card, and I thank you very much.  If anyone else would like it just let me know.  Also, if you just want to send him a email greeting thatwould be nice also.  I doubt he will see any email until he gets home or until I am down there but that is fine too.  I just came from Walmart and do you think I could remember I wanted to get some moth balls?  Gurrr.

MARY ANN, how exciting that you and Tom will be staying with the little twins.... yes, live and learn about what is safe to wear around babies!

LARRY, I, too, have heard most of the pros pay their caddies 10% of their big wins.  Of course this  in addition to their regular pay.... some caddies get their travel and expenses paid by the sponsors, but I do not think it is a stead fast rule.  No doubt, those caddies make a very good salary.

I was interrupted, so will try to finish this post now.

I just talked to my Dad and he sounded rather confused to me and not very talkative.  Diane is still there with him so I will call her after she is home and see if she can fill me in.  He said he has been so cold, and has asked them if they can turn down the a/c.  When he is up he said he has to have a blanket wrapped around him in addition to a jacket.

I had my mammogram and Dexa scan this afternoon and I am sure happy to have that done.  It was hot out today.....the car said 100*, but not sure if that is the official temp or not.  We will be near to 100 the next two days!

AMY, I am anxious to read about your Alaskan meal.  I hope you enjoyed it.

I hope EVERYFRIEND enjoyed their day.

Good morning everyone..

Looking like rain out there this morning, I hope we get an all day soft rain as the grass is getting crispy!!

Took the rest of the gazebo down yesterday, my what a job :knuppel2:a friend wants the metal from it ,and I want the walls to use on the garden. My muscles are telling me I shouldn't have climbed around on the ladder like that ,good job I am going to the chiropractor this morning!!

Larry, for a while we got different ones but then settled into just the same one but she was off on holidays this time.  We sat outside in the gazebo during the summer, I do have an umbrella that goes on the picnic table so we will use that. Less work for me!

Jenny, I did get a card off to your Dad yesterday. Do you think maybe your Dad was just tired when you talked with him?? When in their own home they can nap any time but not so where he is now. Jenny it is Jane that is adventurist on her meals, at least she doesn't get tuckered out travelling for them :)

Joy, hope you are feeling a lot better now.

Mary Ann you will have fun and lots of stories of the twins when you get a chance to post them.

Gloria de, my that is costly and nice that it is paid for!

Lloyd, good to see you, is calving all done? Farmers are at the haying here now. Next will get the grain combined when ready.

Better get ready , have an early appointment.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cooler this morning and temps are only supposed to get into the low 70s today.

AMY, we have your rain...soft and gentle and supposed to last most of the day.  We also need it but I'm sure the grass will be jumping out of the ground to slurp it up!

JENNY (and anyone else who is interested).  The Alaska casserole was delicious in spite of the fact that I misread the recipe and put in regular chopped onions instead of the green ones.  However, I think I had enough to serve all of you if you had shown up.  It's a breakfast casserole and now we shall see how well it freezes in meal size containers.

I'm off to WM at 8:30 this morning so I better be getting ready.  Wish me smiles and short lines!

Good morning everyone 58°. I did nothing yesterday but lay on the couch with the TV on and dozed on and off all day. Slept good last night and do feel more energetic today. Guess staying off my feet most of the day helped with the pain. Ahh these 'Golden Years(?)"

JOY  only had a ITU once and the NP gave me just  2 antibiotics and was surprised how fast they worked.

MARY ANN  any dangling earrings are bad to wear around babies. They love to grab at them, too.

GLORIA de  that  shot is very costly. Glad your insurance pays for it when you really need it.

JENNY  the few surgeries I had I was always cold, too, and asked for another blanket. When I had the capal tunnel ones it was as outpatient and they had nice heated blankets. The first one that doctor had me sedated but the other doctor I had for the other 2 just numbed my hand/wrist. I was awake the whole time and never had to have the wake up after. I dislike being sedated, I have a hard time waaking after. When I had the shoulder replacement the surgery was at 1pm and I really did not wake till the next morning. My DIL s tayed at the hospital and said she talked to me in the recovery room but I did not remember it at all.

LLOYD  getting pretty dry here, too. We were almost 2 inches short last month and this month we have only had brief showers so we already have a big loss  of  needed rain this month.

AMY  I intend to ask my NP next month when I see her about a chiropractor for my back. I had seen one who advertised that he specialized in back problems but he is at the other end of the state, could not sit that still for that ride.

JANE  hope you are enjoying those casseroles. I like making the ones that freeze good. Of course it in one of my CNAs who does the cooking for me. Have short lines and just enough customers so you are not bored.

Had my coffee and time to get into the shower and let the warm water beat on my back as I just sit and enjoy it. Have a great day.

Gloria, being short, I have almost no neck so I do not wear dangle earrings.  It is button-type or no earrings at all.  Unless I'm going somewhere I usually do not wear necklaces, but knowing the girls grab them, I'm likely to wear one - metal.  I can always take it off and put it in my purse.  We're only going to be there two or three hours, then come home.  I don't know what James and Alicia will be doing or where they are going.

We are enjoying a nice rain now.  It has been a while since it rained and I know the grass and flowers will appreciate the rain.

Hi Everyone.  It is a cloudy morning and about 75 degrees but only headed up to about 90 this afternoon.  We had another popup storm last evening and it looks like we had about 1/2 inch of rain.  There must have been significant wind as my artificial flowers were blown out of their ceramic vase on the front porch clear over to the side of the house and halfway back between the houses.  I was able to get them and they don't seem to be any worse for wear.  We have a chance for more rain today.  I have a light schedule today and the only thing planned is to meet Jennifer and Elizabeth at IHOB for our evening meal and then they will come out to the house for a little while.  Scott is working tonight as had traded his day off with one of the other employees and then he will have Sunday off.  While yesterday was another down day for me I woke up this morning feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.

Mary Ann, apparently most of the caddies, if not all of them, are excellent golfers themselves.  I didn't realize that they got their expenses paid for by sponsors  or drew a stated salary.  Those working for the better golfers have to do very well.

Gloria, you said you couldn't be pushed in your rollator but I have to wonder why since there are handles and wheels unless it is the lack of the foot rests.  Stacey used to move around with her one good foot when she came out to the house and had to use the transport chair to get around in the house.  I have not had good luck with my HP printers and don't intend to ever buy another one.  I think it will be laser printers for me from now on.

Joy, since the 4th of July is on a Wednesday this year and Wednesday is Scott's day off of work I expect we will have hot dogs, coleslaw and potato salad or potato chips, which has been our traditional 4th dinner for years.

Mary Ann, I hope you and Tom enjoy the babysitting.  You can do the enjoyable part of holding them a bit and seeing them and Tom and do the diaper changing and feeding.  That should be a nice change of pace for you both.  I expect James and Alicia can use a short break away from the twins.  Will this be the first time they have left them in someone else's care?

deAngel, one must wonder what goes into medicine to make it so expensive such as you shot.  However, it sounds like the Peocert is what you have needed and works for you.

Jenny, I expect your Dad will have some up and down days.  They are probably keeping him pretty tired from the rehab exercises and things he needs to do to regain his strength.  Does your car have the start feature before you enter the car so you can get it cooled down when it is outside in the sun?

Amy, does your gazebo have netting around it to keep the pests form bothering you?  It sounds like taking the old one down yesterday was quite a job.  Are you not replacing your gazebo?

Jane, sounds like a very nice day up your way with a nice slow gentle rain.  Hope you have a lot of smiles and short lines at your work this morning.

Lloyd, that is a nice rain and hope a lot of it soaked into the ground and didn't just run off.

Gloria, nice to see you are feeling more energetic today.  I am also feeling more energetic today after a couple of down days where I didn't feel like doing anything.  I remember years ago when I had heart caths done the labs were very cold and it was before they had the heated blankets available.  I would be laying there on the table with nothing on other than a sheet and just shivering.  Sedation can be very hard on us as we age.  Not to discourage you but Pat went through three months of chiropractic treatment three times a week and it really didn't help her at all and the chiropractor told her that he had done all he could do.  The spinal stenosis was too severe all up and down her spine.  Do you use and ice pack on your back?  Pat uses one across her lower back each morning when she comes into the family room and sits in her easy chair and that seems to help her until she is on her feet for just a few minutes.

Larry, I don't know the reason for our baby-sitting session, but I wonder if it is to give James and Alicia time to pack before their move to another place.  They have been living in Student Housing for Hope College in Holland and James is no longer a student.  The authorities let him stay as long as there were no requests, but now they have someone who needs the housing.  James found a house where they will move around July 4.  I am sure it is difficult to do any packing with a couple of active toddlers in the way and/or wanting attention.

Larry, watching the caddies and seeing the player and caddie exchange information, I have realized the caddies have to have a lot of golfing knowledge.  Spieth's caddie is a former math teacher.  I don't know about others.  But to be successful, the golfer must have someone who knows what he's doing - and why.

Our rain has quit for a while, but radar shows it in the area yet.

Tom and I are going out to eat this noon.  If he wants me to pay, we must go to the bank first.  I have five ones in my billfold.  Plus my credit card.

Mary Ann Tigers caddie worked for him for 10 years, then they had a falling out.  I read he was a rich man, but he then tried to make more money by writing a tell all book

I've been home since about 12:30 and had the doggies out and fed myself and gave them a snack and checked out some stuff on the computer.  I guess you might say I've been "goofing off".

I think this new schedule is going to work a lot better.  I'm not as tired today as I usually am on Wednesday.  Having a day off between work days is better.

Now I'm going to finish my "goofing off" before it's time for supper.  Anybody want to join me?

Gloria D, I think it was Phil Mickelson's caddie who went into broadcasting the golf matches.  His nickname is "Bones".

Had a busy day. did a lot of phoning as no one showed up for our Bible Study. Gary and Dori will be home this weekend so he will get it straightened out. Our Pastor called me and thanked me for my attempts.

I had lunch downstairs with friends then an appointment with our monthly doctor. She worked on my feet today, and the are very sore from taking off the calluses. Spent the rest of the day at home....no nap, so I am off to dreamland.

Love, Hugs and Prayers. Always. June

Posting late again....
Just seems the days pass so quickly.  This one was a HOT one for sure.  It was officially 101*. Tomorrow they project it to be 103*!

My Dad sounded a lot better today.  Diane said he called her three times today to tell her all that he was doing and just talked and talked.  When I talked to him late this afternoon he told me he was not nearly as tired from his PT today as he was yesterday.  I am feeling a lot better about him tonight.  Thank you again for your positive thoughts and prayers for him.  Amy and Larry, you both called it right, Dad was probably just tired form his workout all day.  Thank you, AMY, I know my Dad will appreciate getting our card.  Very sweet of you.

JANE, happy that you enjoyed your Alaskan casserole......I hope it will freeze well and be just as good the next time you have it.

JUNE, sorry you did not have anyone attend your Bible Study today.  Maybe they all like it best when Your Gary is there❣️

LARRY, we do not have the auto start in our car.

Pleasant dreams to all......
Jenny

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm off to pick red raspberries this morning.  I want to try to beat the rain but I'm taking my raincoat just in case.

My cleaning dynamo changed my day this week because she had a cranky grandbaby and she wanted to be able to relieve her daughter who had to go to work.  I'm flexible!

When the boinger goes off, I'll feed the doggies, chase them outside for a bit and thenat 7:30 I'll throw my stuff in the car and take off for the raspberry field.  This year, I'm only picking red and black raspberries.

Tomorrow, my daughter will be coming from Maryland for the weekend.  It's her high school class reunion.  She always enjoys the activities and getting together with her friends.  I'll just give her the extra key and she can come and go as she pleases.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  Make it your best yet.

Good morning everyone...

We ended up taking the metal to my friend at the appointment. On the way home we were treated to seeing 3 fox kits.. beautiful little fellows!

Today I need to contact a lady to make a quilt delivery plus I do have a bit of ironing to do.

Larry, yes it did have netting plus a privacy cover, you could zip that up and stay out in windy or wet weather.

Jane, our strawberries are just coming on, raspberries will be a while yet.I remember going picking wild raspberries and would leave my horse at one end of the field and she would pick any raspberry within her reach! My goofing off consisted of an afternoon nap!

Jenny, I can't imagine temps that high!! Glad to hear Dad is doing better, he will have good and bad days, lets pray the good out weighs the bad.

June, would gell insoles help your feet?

Hope Joy is feeling better

Enjoy your day everyone.

Had this sent to me and thought I would share..

...Am I getting to that age?

I found this timely, because today I was in a store that sells sunglasses, and only sunglasses. A young lady walked over to me and asked, "What brings you in today?
I looked at her and said, "I'm interested in buying a refrigerator." She didn't quite know how to respond.

I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.

Hi Everyone.  For the 4th night in a row we had a pretty good storm last evening.  My rain gauge shows over 1/2 inch more of rain.  It is only suppose to get to 90 this afternoon and we have more possibilities of thunderstorms today.  I will go to coffee a little later this morning and run by the Community Thrift Store and food bank to drop off three bags of clothing.  I think that will be it for today.

Mary Ann, I see you answered my questions about James and Alicia moving which I asked in Norm's B&T. I bet the twins are finding those packing boxes fun to play with and in.  From what I have observed with the pro golfers is that they confer a lot with their caddies for advice and information on distances, etc.  I expect they earn their money.  I believe Phil Mickelson's brother is now his caddie. I often hear the broadcaster ask "Bones" a question or hear him comment.

deAngel, with all the tournaments that Tiger won I am sure his long time caddie won't have to worry about where his next meal is coming from.  I sort of get the impression that Tiger may not have been an easy man to work for.  I didn't know his caddie had written a book.  Tom Watson is from the Kansas City area and is apparently a very fine man.

Jane, hope you can continue to work the one day on and one day off schedule at Walmart.  Hope you got your "goofing off" finished yesterday.  Hope you find the raspberries plentiful this morning and you are not rained out.

Amy, was your removal of the gazebo from the storm that took the roof of it off?  It sounds like it was very nice and would be enjoyable.  I liked that piece you shared with us today and must say I can relate to several of those sayings.

June, it sounds like you had plenty to keep you busy yesterday.  It was nice of your Pastor to call and thank you recognizing your efforts.  Hope you feet feel better and are not as sore today.

Jenny, know it must be a relief to have gotten the good report as you talked with your Dad.  It is stressful and tiring when we are first experiencing things.  Thanks for the info on your car and auto starting.

Good Thursday morning.

Thank you all for the well wishes.  Thankfully, I  am feeling a lot better this morning.   I really appreciate all of your good thoughts.  Hopefully, this little bump in the road is in the past.

Not sure what we will be doing for the 4th of July.  Being in the  middle of the week kind of messes up doing something on the actual day.  Have not heard any of the family's plan for anything on Sunday.  It is supposed to be a hot week end.  So might not be a good day for an outside picnic.  Will have to see what turns up.

My  daughter-in-law brought me some delicious big Bing cherries and a couple peaches from the produce stand she passes on her way home from work.  The peaches aren't quite ripe yet, but they sure do look good.  Not sure about the early peaches.......sometimes they don; t have much taste.  Anxious to taste them,. tho.

Have a lot of things to try to catch up with since haven't don't much for the past few days.  So, I need to get some breakfast and then decide what to do.  Since I have not been doing much except watching TV, I have been just sitting and looking around at everything.  I have decided that I must start to do some serious de-cluttering.  Have too much "stuff" that I don't use just taking of space.  Big chore ahead.  And, something like that, I am the only one that can do it.

I hope everyone will doing well and will have a good day.

Joy

Amy, I liked the piece you posted and I find I can relate to many of the thoughts.

Larry, I answered your question in Norm's B&T too, so you have the answer.  I mentioned the seats for the girls and I'm going to see if I have a picture of them in a convenient spot and ask Bubble to post it.  I had never seen seats like that before and it's just one more thing that is more convenient for today's parents.

There used to be a play "If this is Tuesday, it must be Belgium".  I'm going to paraphrase - If the lawn guys are here (and they are), it must be Thursday.

I have some not too good news to report about Don - Radioman.

I am in daily contact with him and on Monday, when I did not see him online, I presumed it was because of an appointment with his doctor that morning.  However when he did not show up the next day and my phone calls did not get answered I really got worried and contacted his son.

Don was found on the floor of the kitchen, having fell and being unable to get up.
As he said  "lying there without food or drink all those hours was not a picnic, even with nothing broken".

His son called an ambulance and Don is now in hospital. They are doing all kinds of tests but found he has a UTI that needs treatment.

Don asked me to inform his friends in S@F explaining why he is not posting.

I am so sorry So_P
to hear about Don's falling..

And how fortunate that you were paying
attention   so many thousands of miles away.
And able to get him some help.

Hopefully Don will be ok,  and they
are able to determine what happened.

My big fear is to fall or not be
able to get out of bed   (stroke or whatever),
so I vigilantly have my "Life Alert" button
around my neck.

I know how terribly worried you must
be....  and so glad that you were able to
get  help to him.

Good morning everyone, 67° and it is raining lightly. No going out for a walk today. Looks like the next week we have rain in the forecast every day.  Had a surprise yesterday, oldest son came and got me to go to their home for the afternoon and supper. Got to see my great grandson. Boy is he full of energy. He likes my rollator. After I get hugs from him he looks at me and then my "wheels". I know what he wants but I pay no attention waiting for him to ask if he can push it. He will talk  and talk but not ask but looking into the big dark eyes I jst had to give in. He loves giving his stuffed toys rides on it. Of course he likes getting rides on it, too. Wow pouring all of a sudden.

LARRY  no foot rest or seat belts on a rollator so not safe to ride on. I know my son will give his granson a ride around in the house on mine but he goes slow. I have a HP printer that is about 10 years old and no trouble with it. Better than this HP computer lemon. Rather have heat on my back. 5 minutes with an ice pack and I am shivering.

JANE  I feel like I goof off every day but not by choice.

JENNY  so happy that  your Dad sounds better when you talk to him.

AMY ironing? What is that? My son brought me some local strawberries last week end and on Wednesday my other son and DIL picked some and brought me some. I had already eaten more than half of the first ones. So sweet and tasty. Love the That Age. too true.

JOY  I have 2 boxes of pictures that  I have tried going through the get rid of some but could not through any away. I will leave that to my children. I did get rid of many things when I moved here.

BUBBLE  I am so sorry to read about Don.I will be praying for him.  Please keep us informed on how he is doing. I still miss listening to him and his music on Sunday afternoons.

Oh my goodness!  That's terrible about Don.  I hope they get him a life alert!  I'll be praying for him, too.

I got an early start and I was the only one at the berry farm.  The red raspberries were so easy to pick.  The bushes were loaded.  I got 4 boxes in no time at all.  They are so much better than the ones you buy in the stores and I have enough to make a batch of jam for Christmas gifts.  Guess I know what I'll be up to this weekend.  I intend to eat a bowl with just milk on them for my lunch!  I can't wait!  Is it lunch time yet?

JOY, nice to see you're feeling better!  You too, GLORIA!

Good afternoon, cloudy, did have a thunderstorm this Am. I am still upset after watching the new.  caught on camera, a man is just walking along, and two thugs rush up to him slamming him to the pavement. Knocking him unconscious. they run away.  As he lays there it shows a women running in looks at him then robs him. He is 39 and a father of 3. he is now in the hospital in critical condition from a fractured skull .I have got to this age and can no longer figure this world. I know there are God  loving people out there, but I think they are getting fewer Sorry I just had to write about this

Now Amy, you were able to put a smile on my face, after reading your post thanks

Jenny, I know it is hard on you not seeing your Dad. Glad to read he is improving.

Bubble, so sorry to read about Dons fall. I hope he gets a panic button, anyone living alone needs one. My cousin around the corner fell in the middle of the night, and she broke her hip. she laid there for 12 hours. I had ask her to get a button a few time, now she has one. I have used mine

Gloria, I had those cold and hot packs whenI went to PT

Sandy thanks for the cams

Bubble, please give our thoughts and prayers to Don. I hope nothing serious came from his fall. Maybe he should look into getting one the alert buttons. If it hadn't been for you he might still be on the floor!!

I am glad you like the post about age..

I can relate to a lot of them but the one about buying something to replace what you lost hit the nail on the head. The lost lawn tractor key has been found...….after we bought two more!! :2funny:

Oh Bubble,  I am so sorry to hear the news about Don.   I can understand how worried you are with being so far away. I hope he wasn't too hurt from the fall and they can find out what the problems are.  I have been dealing with a UTI for a couple weeks now, and no fun.  However, I do know that they can cause some difficulties if not treated quickly.  So happy that you were able to contact his son and he was able to get to him.

Please keep us informed as to how he is doing.

Gloria, I do not know just where to begin.  But, it is something that I have to start doing.  My kitchen cabinets need a good going through and getting rid of things that I don't need.  And, my pantry has things in it that I know are long past their expiration date.  So, that is a job just in itself.  I am hoping that one Sat. one of my DIL's will have time to come help for a couple hours.  I hate to bother them, as week ends are about the only time they have to do their own things.  They do enough for me as it is.  But, just finding a time that is compatible with everyone.  Once I get started, I think it will go quickly.  (Then hope I don't discover that I did away with something without really meaning to. LOL )  But, that is always the way, isn't it?  You don't use something, then discard it, and then start looking for it later when you discover you really could have used it.

I am feeling lots better today  and just have to make a quick trip to the doctor's this evening.

Thanks for thinking of me.

Joy

Amy, glad you found the key & no regrets about getting the others, you'll never have to worry about that problem again!  I also loved the sayings.

Bubble, I am so sorry about Don's fall & you probably know I always look for the good that comes from bad (Pollyanna), good they discovered the UTI, after research I see that can cause even worse problems if untreated.  I've never been diagnosed with that so had to Google since it seems to be such a common ailment.  With a history of back problems & history of sinusitis, so I had antibiotics twice a year.... probably why the underlying was treated without cause..

If you are looking in, Don, sorry about the fall and lack of food & water, something we probably all fear when we live alone.  I have one son that calls every night about 10:00 pm, if I'm on the phone he knows I'm okay, and if he falls asleep watching TV he always calls next day to make sure I'm okay.  This habit started after Cas died & I do appreciate it, he takes care of everyone, not just me. Good Bubble was checking on you & I'll bet your son is kicking himself.... hope he doesn't live too far away.

My new yard guy is mowing in this heat.... news said the "feels like" will be 111 degrees & the sun is blistering.  I told him to do what is necessary & hope next Thursday will be cooler.  Grass & weeds did grow with the rains we had this week but if he doesn't mind it being a little longer to mow next, doesn't bother me.  Next few days will also be about 100 with heat index quite a bit higher.  NOT my kind of weather, right, Gloria???

By the way, Gloria, this new laptop I bought is HP.... highly recommended by my son, same as his except this has touch screen.  Knowing the problems you had, I'm not adding anything (like PSP) & will hold my breath it doesn't have all the head aches yours did, I'm not nearly as computer smart as you nor as patient....  will probably take me 2 years to do more than turn off & on & read messages in Friends!

Gloria de... I totally understand your rage at the people we see on TV today, probably as bad as years ago but we didn't get a steady dose of BAD on TV or radio.  I've gotten so "unconsciously" I avoid news, can't seem to find anyone that just reports news without searching for all the worst to show us.  I think that is why I love being out camping with no news at all and only nature to wake up to.  I have not heard who or why someone murdered that young father out camping & left his daughters to have probably some kind of memory to live with. How sad & sick is that?

Better go check to see if the yard guy is gone, must lock gates.  I didn't see him trim around the pool but did say it was up to him what gets done today.  I paid him cash when he came so trust he understands I expect it to look decent!

Joy, your words could be coming out of MY mouth (as Red Skelton used to say, "and that ain't very sanitary"), we do think so much alike all the time.... because of you & now Don, I did look up symptoms & all about UTI.... not a nice issue.  I have the smallest kitchen of entire married life & all cabinets overflow.... too much on top & looks cluttered so do need to get rid of.  We all grew up with "somebody could use this" & can't just throw away.  I hauled some boxes to the Salvation Army but after hearing that one lady say "75% of donations go to the land fill".... not sure what happens to our treasures.   :tissue:  /color]

Well, after my couple of hours in the berry field early this morning, I came home and put some stuff out of my dynamo's way and then had lunch.  She arrived at 1 and left at 3 and the house is all shiny and neat now.  Wish it would stay that way!

After she left I went and did a couple errands including a quick trip to WM to pick up some snacks and a box of jam jars.  I had a $2.00 coupon on the jars and a $1. one on the chips.  Also, got a few more items and came home and put them away.  Now I'm going to "goof off" until it's time to feed the doggies....and me!

Hope your day is going well!

Thank you, BUBBLE, for sharing the concerning news about Don.  So glad you were able to get in touch with his son so he could get Don help.  I hope the UTI can be cleared up soon and Don can get healthy enough to get back home.  I do wish he had one of the call things so he did not have to be on the ground without being able to call for help.  Seems those things are a necessity for those who live alone.

We found out today that there will be a meeting on next Tuesday that will determine if my dad is read to go home or if he will continue to have care.  They told us he would be there for two weeks, so we shall see. He wants to get home to be there to help Diane, his lady friend, but we just keep reminding him that he has to be able to take care of himself totally before he can help anyone else.

It did hit105* here in Denver today.....that is one degree warmer than it was in Phoenix!  YIKES!  There are several more fires that have sprouted up now, and they all continue to be a huge concern.  One of them is in the town where Carol’s son lives, so I hope he and pray his place is OK.

I hope you all enjoyed a nice day.....pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's about 70 degrees here this morning.  I haven't checked where it is headed.  Don't know if I even want to know.

The doggies have been fed and I have another early day at WM this morning. So I'll be hustling.  Wish me smiles and short lines.  And enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, the sun is shining and the rain is gone for awhile 67°. We got more than 2" of needed rain. For the next 5 days the guessers are saying 90° or more. First heatwave of the summer and that means high humidity, too. As long as I have my AC working I will be OK. Of course my apartment faces the south west and late afternoon it get s hot in here and being on the top floor it gets pretty warm even in winter. Yesterday the humidity was 95%. Just heard the mayor in Providence will have the water parks will open today because of the heat. The pools will be opened on the third. They are free and opened to the public. Glad he can do something nice.

JANE  ever have fresh picked blueberries in milk? Years ago where we lived a neighbor's son picked blackberries that were huge and she asked if I would llike to make some jam, she would teach me how. She sent her son to pick more. Best neighbors we ever had. She taught me about canning. Her husband and her took me to the Salvation Army in Providence for canning jars. Got 36 jars for 30¢. Imagine 10¢ for a dozen quart jars today? I do feel much better this morning, thank you.

GLORIA de  several years ago in Providence they had a group of guys attacking people walking alone. I don't remember if they caught them of not.

AMY  always the way about getting keys to replace the lost one.

JOY  only once did I have a UTI. Felt horrible for a few days and finally called the doctor but he was booked solid and saw the NP. She told me if I had waited another day I could have died. Don't know how I drove to the office and home again. Glad it was only a couple of miles away. Like you I have things in the cabinets I never use, like a set of dishes that were my Moms and I just cannot throw them away. They were her good company china and older than me. Let my sons get rid of them.

SHIRLEY  I had never heard of a UTI when it hit me. I had chills so bad that my teeth were chattering, could not stop shivering. We are from a generation who did not go to a doctor for every little thing but took care of it ourselves. Right, I will not enjoy the heat that high for 1 day and now those so smart weather folks say for the next 5 days at least we will be in a heatwave. I will not be going outside unless it is early in the morning. Doubt that will happen because my mornings start right here with my coffee. This is my second HP desktop and no problems with the other one but the hard drive was too small for all the graphics I was doing. Kept trying to delete something to give me space. I am far from knowing anything about computers, I am so thanful my grandson keeps this one going.

JENNY  the hottest I have seen it here was 105° and that was years ago and we did not even have a fan then.

AMY  glad I do not have to go out in the heat later today unless I want to.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Good Morning Everyone from
the warm and sunny,  rocky coast of Maine.

It is going to be warmer today,  but not
too humid for the next couple of days.
Then on July 1st,  hot and humid Summer
is suppose to arrive.    (And so it goes)

The Decorah eagles are off most of the time
soaring and playing and fighting and
being real "teenagers.   They are so much
fun to watch when the do get together.
But that is not usually until later in the evening
when they tend to go back to their nest and
wait for Mom to bring them some treats to fight
over.

"How sweet it is!"

The Ospreys are still babies and in their
nests depending on Mom and Dad  to take
good care, protect and feed them.   Beautiful
view from North here in Maine.

And the bridges in Duluth are always
fun when active.

I pretend to do all of my traveling these days
via YouTube.     Can't be beat.   Sit, watch
and enjoy.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

Good morning from a hot and humid central Oklahoma.  (Can't let the rest of you get ahead of us weather-wise!  ;D)

This weather reminds me of the summer after my Freshman year in college.  I worked as a counselor at the Tulsa YWCA camp and the lake water was so hot that the kids could only go swimming early in the morning.  That was the summer I learned how to gig a frog.
The counselors who weren't on bedtime duty would take a boat out on the lake.  Somebody (not me!!) had the bright idea that we could catch enough frogs to have a frog-leg meal in between camp sessions.  We could...and we did!

Jenny,  sounds as if your Dad's optimistic attitude is helping his recovery.
Very few people believed us when we said our furnace ran at night in Leadville and we needed a/c when we went "down" to Denver.

Reading all the stories about picking berries makes me itch - remembering the chigger attacks while picking wild blackberries along the pasture fence when I was growing up.
#1 son has blackberry bushes in their yard and dil is busily making jelly and blackberry-cello (sp?), which she refers to as a "refreshing beverage"  ;)

Off to find something useful to do...or not.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful clear and sunny morning here and we are only to get to around 90 degrees by late afternoon.  Today is the day for the housekeeper and she is going to put on the treatments for the granite countertops.  While the granite is nice looking it sure isn't easy to maintain.  A couple of windows will have to be opened to get good ventilation so will be a good day as won't be quite as hot this morning as many other mornings have been.  The housekeepr is going to start on washing the windows while they are opened.

I did not have an enjoyable day yesterday and spent most of the afternoon laying down with my eyes closed as my leg muscles were aching.  I am thinking it has to do with fluid accumulation perhaps around my heart preventing enough oxygen getting to my leg muscles.  I took a couple of Tylonal and it didn't help.  I seem to be feeling OK this morning.

Pat called and found the barber she likes to cut her hair isn't working today but will be tomorrow.  So we have changed our plan and will stay in today and then go out for our main meal tomorrow and get haircuts.  I looked at coupon for $4 from Great Clips and see I still have until July 8 to use it.  The restaurant is just a few doors down from the Great Clips store.  That will be plenty of activity for us for one day.

Joy, nice to read you were feeling better yesterday.  Do like outside picnics?  Never have understand the desire to eat outside where it is hot and you have to fight the bugs and the wind, and perhaps no place to sit if there are not enough tables.  I guess I am just spoiled and plan on staying that way.  It has probably been ten years since I attended an outdoor picnic. Maybe your could could some subtle to your DIL's that a gift of a couple of hours of their time would be a great gift.  I told my son recently I didn't want presents and consider what he does for us as gifts.

Shirley, when our son was living along after his wife passed I asked him to just send us a quick text or call each day to let us know he was all right as he also has some serious health problems.  I don't have that worry now as his daughter lives there with him as does her friend Elizabeth.  I am glad your son keeps close tabs on you.  It sounds like you have a very caring son and I bet I know where he got that trait.  It sounds like typical Kansas weather for late June and early July.

June, I know it is frustrating to lose one's posting but it seems to happen to most of us from time to time.

Jenny, I hope your Dad allows himself enough time to heal.  I know you can relate to the healing process since, if I recall correctly, you had hip replacement surgery.

Roley, hope you are having nice weather over your way and having a nice day.

Mary Ann, if it is Tuesday our lawn people will be here throughout the day unless rain has delayed them for a day or so.  They were here on Tuesday but obliviously didn't get finished as were back Wednesday as well.

Bubble, thanks for letting us know about Don.  It sounds like he needs to be wearing the medical alert device so he can get help when needed.  Glad that nothing was broken in his fall.  Hopefully they will identify the reason for the fall and provide proper treatment.

Sandy, as I have often written about I am a big believer in the Life Alert emergency buttons for anyone living alone and having reached a certain age or having medical problems.  Sure glad you have one.

Gloria, what a joy it must have been to watch the little one enjoy life and be fascinated with your rollator.  I have suggested several times that Pat use some heat on her back but she prefers the ice and it does help.  She doesn't complain about it making her too cold.  She has an ice pack that Stacey had that is probably 12 inches tall and 24 inches wide and it doesn't freeze solid in the freezer just get cold.  It fits down in the back of her easy chair.

Jane, nice to read that the red raspberries were easy to pick.  I hope they were good and tasty for your lunch.

deAngel, watching the news almost wants to make us stay locked up in our house and then even that isn't necessarily safe as their are home break ins.  Anymore they just don't job places they seem to so often kill as well.  These gangs are so worrisome and seem to be getting worse and worse.  I hadn't heard of the incident you described.  I still want to believe that the majority of people are good and our views get distorted since the 24-hour news now constantly reports on the bad apples.

Amy, it never fails that those lost items will be found after we give up.  At least now you have backups if you lose it again. It sounds like you are wise to plan to stay in where it is cool.  I saw the weather  map last night that showed the heat was moving up your way for the next few days.

Gloria, in our area when it gets so hot and humid Augusta open cooling centers where people can go if they don't have AC available.  It sounds like Providence has the right idea and those pools will likely be very busy.  We gave already had several days with a heat index of 105 degrees and sure more are on the way as summer is just getting underway.

Lloyd, you have us beaten in terms of the high heat index.  I hope you are staying in and staying cool.

Callie, there isn't much meat on a frog's leg is there?  I wonder if the hot summer you speak of was that summer, I think 1964, when we lived in Moore, Oklahoma and it was so hot and we had no A/C.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for June 15, 2018

Larry,  it was the summer of 1954.   I was in Leadville by the summer of 1964.
Don't remember much about the frog legs - just the experience.  :)

I don't think we'd feel the heat nearly as much if the weather gurus didn't keep telling us how awful it is.   ::)

A good Friday Morning HELLO!

Thank goodness we are to be 10* cooler here today than that awful 105* of yesterday.

GLORIA de, I meant to comment on the awful story you shared about the man being beat down then robbed by someone else.  I agree, we know there are a lot of good people left in the world, but sadly there are way too many thugs too!  It does make one concerned about going some places these days where we used to never had to question about our safety.  Pretty sad and scary!

Today is our youngest Son Brian’s 42nd Birthday.  Oldest Son Kurt flew in from Boston this morning to attend a dear friend’s, dad’s memorial service this afternoon. Kurt was very close to this man....closer practically than his own two sons.  Kurt loved Hugh, and they could chat for hours and Kurt always hugged Hugh.....Kurt’s friend told Kurt one day that he and his dad had never hugged each other.  Kurt told him that he needed to make that change and he did.  It was strange for them at first but he was and continues to give Kurt credit for encouraging that change.

Many of the 4th of July fireworks displays have been cancelled, thank goodness, due to the extreme dry conditions.  We have no plans as all of our family members will be away.  Brian and Cathy are going to Boston to visit Kurt and Family.  Dr. Dave and Family are going to Oregon to visit friends.  We will be keeping the two Doodle Dogs! Lola and Oliver.

I hope EVERYFRIEND has a good day....keep cool if you can!

Jenny 🦋

I came back to check the grocery ad before heading out (online).... and had to comment to Larry.... you weren't alone with those leg cramps, I'm going to blame mine on not drinking enough water yesterday... BUT, think it might be pay back for saying that I wake up "pain free".  Not this morning, I gave a stretch & legs locked up tight, when I pulled myself off the ceiling I realized I also had a sore back.... "could it be UTI?"   I don't think so since it's gone now, probably laying in a twist after looking out the door to see if cats were wanting in & fell asleep before straightening out.

Anyway, hope you are all doing better, everyone with aches or pains.  I have to fill up my car with my dollar off (it only holds at most 15 gallons & nobody else needs gas)......but saves that much & must be used by tomorrow (another hot day).  Besides, I need some groceries.  At least after being outside the AC feels good when I come in.  After a while it doesn't seem cool enough but know power companies insist we don't keep it frosty with 100 degree weather!  Might head downstairs, always much cooler there.

Happy Birthday, Brian!

A busy day here, and I am tired already and all I have done is to our singing practice for the fourth of Julyl 'we are already celebrating it today with  costumes, parade around the gardens, decorating of carts and of ourselves. this will take place at two P.m. when I am usually deep in sleep. Now it is time to go down for lunch, so I will say ta-ta for now. Back later.

Good afternoon, we are joining everyone with a heat wave

I think that incident I saw on TV yesterday upset me , as the people standing by did not help the the unconscious  man, instead a women  searched him and took his phone, money etc., The camera showed the whole thing.

Larry my big problem is the circulation in my feet and legs.  With this humid weather my left foot and leg are badly swollen by night ,  the doctor said i should keep my feet up all the time
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for June 15, 2018

Gloria de, you and I have a similar problem. Poor circulation. Mine is caused by clogged arteries, not enough blood can move through, consequently a lot of foot pain, and cramping  of leg muscles.I'm told I must walk, to keep the blood flowing. So  I walk till legs cramp up, then sit and rest, then walk some more. Right now my feet have so little flesh the bones are causing calluses....very painful. It is titled Peripheral arterial disease. My lower legs are very discolored from bruising that turns the skin brown and doesn't clear up. My doctor cut off the calllus this week but feet are so sore, it is hard to walk.

Amy, I will enquire about the gel pads. I have tried other pads...no help at all.

I came home from our celebration all worn out. Put on comfy clothes, lay down and slept and kept busy dreaming for Three hours. Now it is past supper time and I am not hungry at all.

Gloria de, it is really hard to believe that people could pay no care about that poor man on the sidewalk.....and rob him in addition. Best we stay off the streets entirely, or only go out with a companion.

Gary and Dori will be arriving home tomorrow from their two week vacation. Then Gary will have to prepare for Church services the following day. He will neen another vacation to rest from this vacation. My other son is recovering from surgery on his leg tendons. I am thankful God gave my boys such loving wives.

I must think of eating something even though I am not hungry. The body still demands to be fed. Hope you are all having a pleasant evening. Hugs......

Good morning everyone..

Not much sleep last night as we had a dandy storm that want to keep everyone up and one dog vibrating. Today we take Golden girl for her trim, or rather shave down. I hope this will help her to deal with the heat.

Larry, ask your Dr if you can take magnesium for the leg cramps. I will take calcium, magnesium with vitamin D when I get Charlie horses in my legs.

Gloria de, I hope they find that lady and charge her!!!

Happy birthday Brian.

Bubble any word on how Don is doing??

Shirley, with 2 big dogs and they both want to sleep on the bed, I am at times curled up like a pretzel.

Gloria, I wish I could stay in where it is nice and cool but with the appointment at the groomer is today. Hope you can stay cool!!

Callie, my Dad loved frogs legs and he was welcome to everyone one of them too!!

Lloyd, hope you can stay in where it is cool today.

Sandy, love watching the cams!! Here we have three nests, one swallow, one phoebe and a wren. Two nests are right by the garden and when I go in I can hear the babies chirping.

Joy, hope you're feeling better.

Laundry day but that will have to wait till after the groomers.

Enjoy your day everyone.

G'morning all. Still brilliant sunshine in this part of the world, listening to the long range forecast earlier today they tell us this hot weather will carry on through to September !,very nice for those who can get out and about, already warnings are going out asking people not to waste water, wash cars, water lawns etc, hope that answers your question Larry, Already (10.am) it's 24c and climbing here in the south, yesterday in parts of the country it topped 32c, today I think it will be even higher, I was sitting in the back garden but it got uncomfortable in the rising temperature, so had to call my other half for help getting back into the shade !, 'I don't know what I would do without her', anyway, its back indoors for me now !.
I spoke to Lloyd late yesterday afternoon, he was telling me he still has problems with his leg and now his webcam has broken down !, he still sounded cheerful !, now I think I might sit back and relax, it's getting too hot to do anything else today, hope you are all having the weather you enjoy .                                                            Cheers.   Roley.

Hi Everyone. It looks like we will have another pleasant day getting only up into the low 90's this afternoon.  We have a fairly busy morning planned.  I want to attend a meeting at 10:30 and then will come home and get Pat and we will go downtown to Great Clips for haircuts and then to the Sunshine Grill for our main meal of the day.  I will probably tune in and watch some of the golf later this afternoon.  The rest of the day should be nice and restful and peaceful.  Yesterday we just ended up staying in all day and had a nice salad dinner.  I always have tuna on my salad and Pat prefers the canned chicken.  It is a very easy meal to prepare.

Callie, I have the same thoughts about the weather and the big deal made out of summer or winter temperatures.  It has always been hot in summer and cold in winter or some variations depending on where one lives.  I really don't need a weather warning unless a bad storm is expected in our area.  I think I had frogs legs to eat one time when we were in Florida and at a seafood restaurant where I tried a sampler platter.

Jenny, do you remember when we used to leave the car keys in the car and didn't need to lock the door of the car when we parked it.  I wouldn't even consider doing that now.  The same with needing to lock our house doors other than maybe at night.  Now unless I have just stepped out my house doors and car doors are going to be locked.  A belated Happy Birthday to Brian.  My experience with my dad after I became a teen and then an adult was the same as Kurt's friend.  This all changed when I had the heart attack and from then on we always hugged when we greeted each other or when we departed from a visit.  However, I know a few people who are just not comfortable with doing so and that is OK for them.  I can't imagine how Kurt's friend must have felt seeing his father hug Kurt but not him.  It sounds like your 4th will be very much like ours.  We hope the kids will come over for awhile and have dinner with us since it is on a Wednesday.  I am planning to pick up a couple large Firehouse subs, get a couple of bags of potato chips and some cookies that will be our big 4th of July meal.  I will watch fireworks on TV from my comfortable easy chair and also hear some occurring around the neighborhood.

Shirley, my legs having been cramping but that the muscles hurt in the back of my legs.  I try to eat bananas often plus take a Vitamin B complex that has potassium in it and really having had leg cramps in a long time.  I also stay hydrated probably too much as am suppose to cut back on fluids and am trying to be watchful of doing so.  Getting a dollar off a gallon of gas is worth not letting go by.  I think the most I have ever gotten off a gallon was ten cents at the Kroger gas stations and usually it was three cents.  Now at Costco I get four cents a gallon off plus the gas is usually cheaper than other stations.

June, sounds like you had a pretty busy day yesterday.  It sounds like your place does the holidays up right.  I see you did attend the celebration.  I know you will be happy to see Gary and Dori and hope your other son is healing quickly form his surgery.

deAngel, there have been many cases of the person being helped turning around and suing the person who tried to help them and I suppose a lot of people don't want to take that chance.  However, I certainly agree that incident was awful.  I do keep my feet up at night and they are up when I am in my easy chair.  However, my legs do swell.  They felt better yesterday and I am hopeful today will be the same.  I try not to sit too long without getting up and moving around.  I haven't done my extra waking the last two days and must do some today.

Amy, I apparently mislead yesterday when I spoke of the my leg muscles as they weren't cramping but just hurting.  Dogs and cats don't like these bad storms we have once in a while.  Maybe you can get a nap in today.  Your mention of your dad loving frogs legs reminds me of my dad who loved oysters, especially in oyster soup.  I never cared for them and mother always made potato soup for us and dad could have his oyster soup.

Roley, glad your wife is there to help you when you need help.  Do you have a beautiful back garden.  One of the things I so enjoy about watching TV shows or movies set in your country is all of the gardens and plantings.  Right now as I look across the street out of my office window I get to see my neighbors beautiful crepe myrtle tree that is in full blown. Thanks for sharing the news about Don.

Good morning everyone 73° at 7:30. From what I saw on the weather looks like a gib part of the country is in a heat wave for the next few days. So thankful I have an AC and fans to move the air around.

LLOYD  glad we will not hit 100°.  Try staying in the house as much as you can.

CALLIE  ar least the humidity is not high here right now.

LARRY  after the rain we had a couple of days ago my widows on the outside are all spotted from the dust that was on them. That is a job I cannot do. The CNAs I have are not allowed to wash windows so will have to live with them. Hope you are feeling better today. Like you I rather have time with my family than a gift. Means more to me. I have been saying lately tha t I have no blubber left to hold the heat in. With no appetite I do not eat the way I used to and have lost too much weight. As someone said if they look at me sideways they would not see me. Some cities here open cooling shelters but only during the days. I have lived in a city and the heat on summer nights feels as bad as during the day.

JENNY  I always have got hugs from my 3 and still do except for my daughter who is too far for our arms to reach. Older son's family are huggers too. Even my little greatgrand runs to me for hugs. Of course those I really enjoy.

SHIRLEY  I sent you a couple of emails yesterday, hope you got them.

JUNE  enjoy your 4th celebration. Nothing planned here.

GLORIA de  pretty hard to keep feet up all the time especially when one lives alone. Would like to see the doctors who say that to do it.

AMY  second son will be here this morning and when he leaves I always go out with him and walk to his car with him. Today that might be the only time I go out. I will have my shades down by 1pm against the sun.The heat also bounces up for the black pavement in the parking lot.

JANE  been awhile since I lost a post and I thype on notepad then copy/paste to the post box and make sure it is there before I close the notepad. Lost too many before I started doing that.

PETER  I try getting out in the mornings at this time of year and then stay inside away from the sun and heat. Thank you for news about  Don. Have been wondering how he is doing and praying for him.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Good morning on this beautiful, sunny morning.  Supposed to be hot all week.

I, too, get tired of all the comments about the hot weather..... After all, it is summer and it is supposed to be hot.  I, for one, love the summertime.  The winter is always so long and cold. I know the hot weather does bothers a lot of people, and I do understand that.  However, I think the more the weather people keep reminding us of that fact, it only makes it worse.  However, I don't have to work outside in the heat.   My son told me yesterday, they don't want to do anything this week end except to stay in and just rest.  He has been working outside all week, plus doing a side job, after he gets home, and he just feels exhausted.     So, that settles the decision as to what to do for the week end.  And, that is fine with me.

Amy, I am feeling a lot better.  Still have some issues to deal with,  but I am feeling better.  I appreciate your asking.  I even think I have a little bit more energy than I did last week.  And, I sure have a lot of things to try to catch up with.  But, I do know, that they will all still be waiting for me, however long it will take for me to get around to them.  LOL

Do hope everyone will have a great weekend and just do whatever you feel like doing.  LOL

Joy

I wonder if a reason the weather people make so much of extreme hot or extreme cold weather is that people expect it now.

I had frog's legs once and I think they tasted good, but I would not order them in a restaurant and I'd just as soon no one fix any for me.  Those poor frogs!

My folks never locked the house during the day, only at night.  And my mother put a handkerchief through the hole in the key, then would put the key at the top of a pillar with the handkerchief hanging down so Norm or I could reach it.  With Tom here, I've been a little more lax in having the door unlocked, but if we are both gone the door is locked.  Tom even locks his car in the garage because sometimes he leaves his computer in the car.  That I never did, however, the garage doors (service and overhead) were both locked.

As for hugging, I grew up in a non-hugging family.  I have grown to accept hugs but I rarely initiate them.  When I know a hug is coming, I'm ready.  Dot is the champion of all huggers and Norm's grandchildren all hug, so i accept them.  It does not bother me if someone else gets a hug and I don't, just because we did not hug when I was young, so I'm used to it.  I don't feel ignored.  I think if my mother had lived longer, we might have hugged more.

OK, let's try this again.  My visiting daughter was sleeping in this morning.  She never gets to do that at home so it's a treat. Last night I got everything ready to make the red raspberry jam before she woke up and I came up 3/4 cup short on the sugar.  So I made a quick trip to WM and was back early.  I was putting the jam in the jars when she came out.

We talked while I finished and then she made us both scrambled eggs for breakfast.  It was a very pleasant way to start the day.

Now she's off to visit with some friends who have come to town for the class reunion.  She said she'd be back in time to get ready for the 6 p.m. reunion.  And so far, that's my day!

Oh, yes, we both had the leftover fresh raspberries with our breakfast.  Not bad for a Saturday morning!

Mary Ann, my father's side of the family was not huggers or even touchy type... but Mom's side hugged & kissed to the point my sister & I used to giggle about how to dodge those kisses!  I still have a problem with encouraging the little kids to hug but no problem at all with hugging the adult grands & older friends & family.

My father loved frog legs & when he was young enough to "go gigging", he'd bring home quite a few. He had to clean them but Mother would fry & we all let Dad have the fun of eating. We ate most of his "wildlife" but none of us liked the thought of frog legs.

Thanks for the news from Don & Lloyd, Peter.....you are doing a great job of communicating!  I sympathize with the heat you are having & remember how much more "breath taking" it was in England with the humidity, even inside the house.  What lush flowers grew in that humidity, spectacular gardens every where there was a patch to grow.

Gloria, I got the messages & replied.... still think your daughter is a true pioneer.  So sorry you can't visit, think Skype is a blessing that you can see & talk to her every day.  Back when we were building & kids were little I would call my mother as soon as I got all out of the house.... before 8:00 am because it was half price till then.  We watched the clock & got off before that deadline.

Larry, we figured out that since Kroger chain, often around holidays, would offer 4x gas credit on gift cards, we stock up to get those gas points. Like your trips to eat out (Ruby Tuesday) we buy gift cards & never use cash for fast food, Lowe's, Amazon, etc... & that is how we get the dollars off.  One gr-daughter always shops with them & even their up coming trip to Disney, buying the cards at our Kroger chain & had dollars off going to waste this month!  It becomes a habit & so convenient to whip out the gift cards.  I buy Amazon cards for gifts for my grands now that they are older.  I used to give them cards for Target, etc. to pick out their own toys or school supplies... for birthdays & Christmas.  $250. worth of cards when 4x means a dollar off for 35 gallons.... used to always pull cars on either side of the pump & hand it back & forth to use up that much. Was behind a lady & her mother doing that this week... now with the RV I can put the whole 35 gallons in & then some, yesterday was a "fluke" to have nobody needing the extra gas.

Joy, glad you are feeling better.  My son called to invite me over for hotdogs & hamburgers today since our family gathering will be either Monday or Tuesday evening.  With all the fireworks, we don't get much chance to visit. I don't stay for the fireworks anymore, my excuse is, "I don't drive at night"....  I need to shower & wash my hair to be there, have some things to haul over & want to get a parking spot fairly close. I would rather stay home "in this heat" but would hurt feelings if I didn't go.

Fireworks popping all around yesterday but the city has issued big warnings about anyone shooting off the high stuff, BIG fines, and a good thing with as dry as everything is.  Poor animals, wildlife & pets, they do hate the noise.  My son's Great Dane falls apart so bad, they have tried everything to comfort him, size of a horse & shivers & shakes so bad you want to cry for him.  But the 4th is near & we do celebrate!

Oh, Jane, such a treat to have your daughter for "one on one" time.  Enjoy!

Bubble:  I am glad you were able to contact Radioman Don's son.  Agreeing with Jenny that it would be good to have a monitor on him.  Sorry that he was on the floor for such a long time.

Jenny:  It sounds like your dad is recovering nicely.  Such a relief for you.  Yep, this heat is unbelievable - I just listened to the update from Grand Lake and as of last night the fire was 60% contained.  Son's beautiful "cabin" is not far from a volunteer fire department - he keeps trees away from the house but a fire would devastate Rocky Mountain  Park.  Son actually lives in Montana and he flew back yesterday - we were in the wild drive to the airport.   :(

This morning, we had five deer - all bucks - in the yard and ravine.  For three hours.  We see them on occasion plus fox and twice cougars have been spotted.  Never elk here - we used to see elk herds in the foothills but growth has stopped their visits.

Jane:  How nice you had a daughter visit.  It is so special to spend time with the children.

Now I hear the owl calling - have never see it but it is certainly at home nearby.

A good Saturday HELLO to all.

Just talked to my dad and he sounded upbeat today.  He has not been all that talkative, but he did a bit better today.  He answers my questions, but does not sound like he wants to chat too much.  I just want him to know we are thinking about him and wish him well, so even a short conversation takes care of that!  There was no PT today, but he did say he was trying to do a bit of lifting and the like with his leg.  I sure wish they had PT on weekends as he only has so many days to be in this rehab place.  Seems that would be covered no matter hat day of the week it is.  Diane was told there will be a meeting with doctors and PT folks on next Tuesday and they would tell him on that day when he will be sent home.  Diane is in a bit of a panic as she knows she can not help him up and down and she keeps saying that he is in no way able to do that at this time.....we were told he would be there 2 weeks and the first week ends tomorrow afternoon.  Thank you for listening to me 😍

It is so much cooler today and the breeze coming in the door feels wonderful.

We are going over to Brian’s home this afternoon.  Kurt will be there and we will all have a cook out.  Mama is smiling....  Kurt got a ride up to the Vail Mountain home this morning, so he was able to check out the house and will now drive their car down and leave it here at our house for three weeks whe he and the two boys will come back to CO to spend time in Vail.

I am baking a Lemon Supreme Cake for Brian’s Bday.  My kiddos do not eat sweets like cake, but every one deserves a birthday cakeðŸŽ,🎈

CAROL, I was relieved to hear the fire Was better controlled in Grand Lake.  8 sure was 🙏 that you sons place was safe.  We saw a hear$ of Elk justoff of Happy Canyon Road when we came back from picking Lola Dog up in Castle Pines.  Dave said that herd has been there every evening in a nice green field munching away.  Across the road there was a family of Wild Turkeys doing the same thing.  I love being able to view our precious wild life.

SHIRLEY, I, too, remember getting THE calls made after 7 PM and to be finished before 8 AM.  WE even had to do tha5 wh n we first had cell phones!  What I remember most tho is never talking to family while living in Europe....but looking forward to the snail mail so much.  My mom was so good about writing detailed letters to us...it was so appreciated.  It ven cost 15 cents to make a local call in Germany then being charged by the minutes you talked.  The telephone line was expensive but Bob was required to have one for alerts.  I think only officers were required but I am not sure of that.  No comment about your card yet!  ðŸ'•

I have been cleaning up off and on but now it is time to start getting ready.... the cake looks and smells amazing!  I will have a piece because it is LEMON.....

JANE.....enjoy your time to visit with your daughter!  Precious moments❣️

GLORIA, I know one thing for sure....IF I ever get to see you in person.I WILL give you a gentle hug!  Bob’s Family were not touchy hugging people, but my family always wa#.....and very soon after marriage my hubby became a hugger too!

MARYANN, IF I ever get to meet you, I sure will initiate a hug....I hope that will be OK?

LARRY, I think your 4th plans sound perfect..... I do hope your kiddos can join you.  They have cancelled so many of the fireworks displays and yet there are fireworks stands all around!  I just do not get it!  They should not allow any personal fireworks! IMHO😡😡

AMY, nighttime storms can sure cut in on your sleep.....we are getting warnings right now about sever weather in the area.....it is always concerning due to the chance of hail!  It is 2:30 PM and it is 75*!  Just a perfect day....so stay away bad storm! No comment about a card yet from Dad!  He is going to be SO surprised!  ðŸ'•

I must run....have a wonderful rest of your day....EVERYFRIEND ❣️❣️

Gloria, we have nothing planned for the fourth of July here either. Most true Holidays are kept quiet here, and I think it is because families have their celebration together, s0 here they celebrate a few days ahead of time , sometimes three and four days in a row…..all depends on who is in charge.Tonight we have our monthly Hymn sing along. I plan to go down since I had a nearly three hour nap this afternoon. I plan to have a light supper at home. Have you noticed any changes since you had those visitors come in ? Were they owners or managers or what ?

Joy, I am so glad you are feeling better. You had a hard time there for a while. Let the "things to do" just come a little at a time. It is so much easier to just set aside a certain amount of time for one project, then wait till you want to tackle another.

I am praying for our Bob, and wish we had more news on him. Is he hospitalized or at home? Does he have close family nearby to help him out ? I pray he will get the safety alarm to wear at all times. It is required here or you can't live here.

Janie, it is really a disgusting feeling when we lose a whole post…I wonder where they go ?How nice to have your daughter there and I'm sure she appreciates being home with Mom where she can "sleep in".

Jenny, do enjoy that lemon B. cake. My Mom used to make one in an Angelfood cake pan…..oooo what a good memory.

I can't believe half a year has passed already. Tomorrow we are into July. Last year fireworks were going off deep into the night, which surprised me, because in my former county they were outlawed, so I wonder what will happen this fourth. Disneyland always closes with fireworks….they are only  a few miles from where I live, so I am accustomed to the sound now.

We had another beautiful day..high of 75. Started out cloudy now the sun is shining brightly. I plan to post this now…..hope I don't lose it. June

Jenny, pleased your dad is doing well. You know we old folks just like to listen and not talk to much, that from a 94 year old :coolsmiley:
Know when I was in rehab, THERE WAS NO pt ON THE WEEK  ends One aide told me she had 14 patients to take care of on the week end. I do not know how true that was.  I am such after the meeting, they will make plans to have some one to come in to help your Dad. I had a nurse come in 4 times week for 3 weeks and then they decide again
if you need the nurse to come more often
