On Easter one year, I got to see my 5-year-old granddaughter, Julia. I wore my best suit for
the holiday.

Julia said, “Grandpa, you look so handsome today. Did you take a shower?”

==============================================

After dinner one night, I asked my son Jimmy to fetch a broom from the back porch so I could sweep the floor.
Complaining, he said, “But it’s dark out there. I’m afraid.”

I said to him, “It’s OK, God is with you.”
Slowly Jimmy opened the porch door and said, “God, if you’re out there, would you hand me the broom?”

Easter blessings everyone!

I heard it before I saw what it was delivering, high winds battered the house bring more snow! Wind is still up but not so much snow now. A quiet reflective day here. I bought a wee ham and some asparagus to go with the rest of the dinner. Will be looking after neighbours dog and cat today.

Tomorrow we will head to the city for an appointment for hubby and visit with the kids and their new addition. Son calls him Tall Dark and Handsome and although I haven't met him I have seen photos of him and oh my , he is that!! A lovely 2 yr old Great Dane with impeccable manners. His head is above the table !

Enjoy your day with your family and friends..

Happy Easter everyone. 42° to start  the day but no sunshine, just a dark gray sky.

JENNY  I wonder about some doctors these days. Hard to find a good one. Have a safe trip to Arizona. I know you are worried about your Dad and only seeing him will give you a better peace of mind.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new page to start the month with. Love your Easter graphics and your jokes.

DON  Happy Easter to you while visiting in the area of the world where it all began.

AMY  Hope they enjoy their Great Dane. I have only seen them from a distance never up close and  I do know they are tall dogs and beautiful.

LLOYD  still do not know what today will be like, there was showers earlier but I can see the walks are drying.

Hi Everyone and Happy Easter to all.  We are going to have a beautiful day here with it getting up to 81 this afternoon.  I am going to Sunday School this morning but will not stay for the Church service as the family is gathering at noon for our Easter dinner.  We need to eat around noon as Scott has to be at work at 2 pm.

I did watch the golf yesterday afternoon and then watched both of the basketball games.  While the second game was not very competitive with Villanova trouncing Kansas it was worth watching for the fantastic three-point shooting that Villanova displayed.

Pat sister finally got connected to the Internet yesterday afternoon and we spent an hour or so as I showed her how to do things with the computer.  I don't expect her to remember it all and we will continue to have training sessions for awhile.  I was able to see what she was doing or take control of her mouse and demonstrate which often works better than trying to explain.  That can be really exhausting work and I know we were both ready to stop after an hour or so.

Carol, do hope Marisio finally got to your place yesterday.  Nice you are going to have lunch with other folks.

Gloria, I hope they have taken the snow out of your forecast for Monday.  I think they are expecting snow also where Lloyd lives in Missouri and my SIL lives.  I haven't read a Louis L'Amour book for a long time.  I am sure my SIL will enjoy the laptop.  I have told her to let me know of any changes she makes in the master password to LastPass or with AT&T or anything else that she will need to reference in the future.  I keep very detailed records of things and she has a tendency not to be very organized with things like passwords.

Jenny, glad the sutures are out and it sounds like it was wise to consult with your doctor son before using the DuoDerm.  Everything in a doctor's office has a separate charge anymore like everything in a hospital.  I am surprised we don't get a separate charge for the paper the bill is printed on.  Is that being cynical?  :)

Lloyd, It has been many years since I was involved with an Easter egg hunt.  Hope you don't get too much snow and that it stays South of I-70.

Jane, glad your daughter went to Church with you yesterday.  I so wish my son and granddaughter would attend Church with us or go to one of their choosing.  They both were raised in the Church.  I never give up hope that one of these days they will come back to it.

June, hope you have a very nice Easter day.  Do you get a special Easter dinner today?

Bubble, thanks for the lovely graphics and for starting the month off with a fresh page.  I liked the little funnies you posted.

Don, Happy Easter to you and Bubble today.

Amy, snow isn't a good way to start April.  Your tea biscuits looked very much like the regular biscuits we have around here except I don't think ours has the sugar in them.  That sounds like some dog your son has.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Happy Easter Day!

I've been to church at 8 a.m. We had a baptism and the regular Easter Day service and then breakfast after that.  When I was ready, I left to pick up some yellow tulips (my mother's favorite and what my dad always gave her on Easter) then I drove the 15 miles to the cemetery where they are both buried and gave them the flowers and had a word or two with them.  I always feel their presence when I talk to them and it doesn't have to be at the cemetery.

On my way home, it rained and I realized that one of my wiper blades was falling apart so I stopped at WM and picked up new ones.  I'm going to my son's for a late dinner and he'll put them on for me.

When I got home, I put some things in the oven that I'll need to take over to my son's and gave the doggies a snack and now I'm here....relaxing until it's time to go.  Pretty busy for a day off, right?  But i'm riding on a cloud.

Wishing all my dear, good Cyber Friends a Very Blessed Easter Day. I will go down for Services at 10 o'clock and then on to a scrumptious dinner.

My son Gary and his wife started their day at 5 a.m. A few years back Gary started Sunrise Services at their local park and it has grown to 400 worshipers attending. He expects even more this year. The Sun is not shining, but we know it is there, though we do not see it,Just as we know God is with us all, even though we see Him not. Thanks be to God.

Time for me to get ready for the day. Have a glorious day dear hearts. June

I hope Everyfriend Everywhere has had a Blessed Easter Day.

I was up early to get a ham going in the slow cooker.  Both sons/wives went to church with me.  it was a wonderful service featuring the Wind Ensemble, which is made up of multi-musical-talented high school students in the congregation.
Plan A was to come here to eat before sons/wives went to the in-laws.  However, temperatures in the 30's cancelled the fishing trip at one place and an Easter egg hunt at the other.
So everybody hung around and visited until about 3:30.

'Twas a lovely day.....but getting colder!  Supposed to be a hard freeze overnight.

Easter Trilogy of Poems
ON A RUGGED SPLINTERED CROSS

On a rugged, splintered cross, my Jesus chose to die
On that dark hill that day, heaven heard the Father cry
For the first time in forever, separation drove apart
The Father and the Son, how it broke the Father's heart
This was the only way, it was the Father's plan
To bring down salvation, to this sinning man
He gave His only Son, sacrificed upon the tree
He paid the price I couldn't pay, He gave His life for me
So I must remember, not only at Easter time
The price He paid upon the tree was rightfully mine
He removed my sin stains and washed me white as snow
Now He's made a glad heart, out of my heart of woe
For He rose again, and lives in heaven above
Pouring out on me, His sacrificial love
He died that dark, sad day, upon the rugged tree
To purchase the salvation for a sinner such as me
As He hung there dying, He cried for all the world to hear
"Father forgive them" fell upon each sinners ear
Those words are still heard today, echoing through eternity
From my Savior on the cross, on the rugged, splintered tree
They were meant for everyone, for all who would believe
Who would accept His blood was shed, for each one to receive
As He hung there dying, in pain and agony
He looked through the years to come, and He saw you and me
In His time of great sorrow, separation from God above
He looked not at Himself, but looked out with eyes of love
He looked out and He saw, each person that would be
Then upon that cruel cross, He gave His life for you and me

-------

THE TOMB

They took my Savior from the cross, placed Him in a tomb
This Man of Galilee, offspring of Mary's womb
His broken, battered body, bruised and lifeless there
Placed in a borrowed tomb, blood matted in His hair
Laid out in death shrouds, a stone across the door
While heaven and hell fought a short and bitter war
Guards were set by the stone, to watch both day and night
There was one on the left side, and one on the right
But no mere mortals, could stop God's almighty plan
The death of His Son, to bring life to mortal man
Three days my Savior spent, body in the grave
Then He rose again, so He could my soul save
He rose victorious, the winner forevermore
He did this for me, so that I could soar
Believe in His death and resurrection from the grave
This He did for me and you, so He could our souls save
Oh Precious Lord Jesus, You gave Your life for me
You paid the price for every sin, for all eternity
Thank you is so inadequate, for all that You have done
But thank you Precious Father, for sending down Your Son

-------

WORDS FROM THE CROSS

Healing words spoken, from the midst of great pain
As in untold agony, His very life did drain
Hung on a cross, Jesus died for my sin
In horrendous suffering, the victory to win
To the thief hung beside Him, forgiveness and grace
Saying he would be with Him, in the paradise place
To the crowd that swarmed `round, the executioners too
"Father forgive them, they know not what they do"
Those words have spanned centuries, down to you and me
Forgiveness was bought, on Calvary's tree
As He hung in agony, the pain at it's worst
My Savior cried out with the words "I thirst"
Bitter wine and gall, were lifted to His lip
Mingling with His blood, for Jesus to sip
Looking down, He saw His mother crying there
He commissioned His disciple to treat her with care
Saying to her "woman - behold your son"
"Son behold your mother, for the time to come"
Then came the words that broke His heart
As for the first time Father and Son did part
"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me"
As the agony paled from that of being hung on the tree
His Father had to turn, His back on His Son
As the whole world's sin was placed on the One
The only one perfect, became sin for me
So in His mercy, I could be free
"Father into Your hands, I commit My spirit"
If you listen closely, you still can hear it
Then He bowed His head, this mortal Jesus Christ
With the words "it is finished", He gave up His life
His beaten body then sagged on the tree
The most horrible death, but He did it for me
In the midst of His pain, He reached out to forgive
So everybody would have, the chance to live
His lifeless body was laid in the grave
This blessed Jesus, who was born to save
The stone set in place, guards posted there
The garments of death, my Jesus did wear
But then Easter morning, He rose from the dead
The grave clothes were empty, even the one for His head
He came back to life, as He promised He would
The price was paid, as only He could
The healing words spoken, hanging on the cross
As He with His life, had paid the great cost
Hallelujah, my Savior paid then for me
So I could be His, for all eternity
The gift of salvation, is open to all
If you but listen and answer His call
Give Him your broken dreams and your heartaches too
Give Him your life, for He truly loves you
Then we'll always be together my friend
In heaven someday, the land without end
The price paid long ago on Calvary's tree
Where Jesus died for you and for me

Good evening, And a HAPPY EASTER To all my good friends. The day started out with light rain. Also the weather person is saying maybe 4inches of snow to morrow ans maybe next Sat. the same. I think Mother Nature, is trying to have fun with us. Feb. was warm, March the weather is awful.

Bubble thanks for the lovey graphics and the start of a new Page.

Amy, your post, for Easter was beautiful Thanks

Gloria and Amy, we had a Great Dane, she lived for 12 years. When we got her our Vet, ask  why we got a GD, As they do not live much over 7 years. WE had to put her to sleep, as her back legs completely gave out.

Larry. Sound like you were having a nice EAster dinner with your family

I had a long day starting with church.  Dot and I could not go out for brunch for two reasons - (1) the restaurant was closed today and (2) Annie was to pick me up about noon to go to Holland and there wouldn't have been enough time for brunch.  There were six adults and two babies at our delicious dinner.  When I left for church, our temperature was 28 degrees and there was no way I was going to wear my winter coat on Easter, so I wore my spring coat.  The distance from car to church was short so I had no problem.  The same from the car to James' and Alicia's home in Holland.  All in all, it was a lovely day with a beautiful blue sky.

I forgot to post this this morning.

   Burial Cloth of Jesus

Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection?
The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded and was placed at the head of that stony coffin.

Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!'

Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple out ran Peter and got there first. He stopped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in.

Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side.

Was that important? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes! In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day.

The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every  Jewish boy knew this tradition.

When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table until the master was finished...

Now if the master was done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers and his mouth and clean his beard, and would then wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table.

The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days the wadded napkin meant,  "I'm finished..."
But if the master got up from the table and folded his napkin and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because....the folded napkin meant
"I'm coming back!"  AND  SO  HE  SHALL

Good morning Everyfriend!  I woke to something I wasn't expecting....SNOW.  I did not realize that we were expecting snow today and was very surprised.  Since there is no school today, I made arrangements to be at my son's house in time for him to go to work.  Kiran had a friend sleep over with her and I'm going to be there so they don't have to get up early.  The plan is that when they do get up, I will take them to McDonalds for lunch and then drop them at her friend's grandparents farm for the rest of the day.  Since it's big flakes and doesn't seem to be laying on the roads, I'm going to try to do as planned. We'll see when 8:30 rolls around.

That's my plan for the day!  Then I'm free for the rest of the day.  I wonder what I'll get into.

Don't know if I told you all,  my brother came home from the hospital on Saturday and is being treated for ulcers. at home.

I had dinner at my son's yesterday and it was delicious ham and Sarah made scalloped potatoes over my recipe because that's "what your son loves best with ham."  Everything was very good and the day was a beautiful Spring day.  And now it's winter again!  Oh well!  That's life!  Have a happy day!

Please don't sent the snow this way. :)

No snow here, thank goodness.  Easter Sunday was nice.  Not a full sun all day but it was warm with sun and clouds playing tag with each other.

I had a long, nice telephone call with my younger son and dil in northern VA.  Caught up with all the news about them and my two grandsons.  That was a treat.

The rest of the day was quiet and peaceful and enjoyable.  The dinner wasn't festive but it was good and filling.

It is a little cloudy this morning but no snow, thank goodness!  The ever-constant laundry needs to be done and a few household chores, also, along with watering the grass seed and hoping it will grow.  Perhaps I'll watch a little of the championship B Ball tonight but can't get too involved in it since all of the local teams have been eliminated.  Did anyone watch "Jesus Christ Superstar" last night?  I thought it was interesting.  The rock style is 'way past my era, of course, so it is unusual for me to watch something like that but I was curious.  It is still not my style but I was intrigued by the production.

Jane, I'm so glad that your brother is home and doing better.  My dil had ulcers and was in so much pain that she thought she was having a heart attack and called EMS.  They discovered the ulcer in the hospital and immediately began treatment for them.  She eventually recovered and never had any more trouble with them, I'm happy to say.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful morning here in South Carolina. It is in the mix-50's and headed up to 85 this afternoon.  This is the big week for this area as the Master's Golf Tournament activities begin this morning with an event for young people.  Many folks in the Augusta-North Augusta area rent out their homes for the week and make very large profits.  Many of the restaurants depend on it for getting their businesses on the profitable side for the year.  People buy tickets for the early days of the week to watch the pros have practice rounds before the actual tournament begins early on Thursday morning.

Only two things on my schedule for today.  The first is to go to AT&T to have Pat's cell phone card checked and to see if I can find her an acceptable phone as the VOCA has stopped making or receiving calls, which sort of ruins the purpose of a phone.  She doesn't want a smart phone.  While at AT&T I will see if I can get them to unlock my iPhone so it is not limited to using AT&T as the carrier. Then after 3 pm this afternoon the AC repairman will be here to work on the air conditioner, which isn't cooling.  This evening I will watch the men's championship basketball game if I can stay awake as it doesn't start until after 9 pm.

We had a very nice Easter dinner yesterday.  Our granddaughter did a fine job on the turkey and the chocolate pies she made and the other dishes also turned out great.  We have enough left overs for our dinner tonight plus a little more turkey that will last for another day or so.

Jane, nice to see you had a pleasant Easter Sunday.  We do need good working windshield wipers.  The last time I got some I was shocked at the price. Hope you will be able to carry out your plan for today.

June, our Church also had a sunrise service at 7 am out on a property owned by the Methodist Church.  They apparently had a very nice turnout for the morning and it was a beautiful day with the sun arising at the right time.

Lloyd, it has been some time since I have lived in Missouri but was thinking you were located North of I-70.  It sounds like you didn't have very pleasant weather yesterday.

Callie, nice that your sons and DIL's went to church with you yesterday and were able to stay and visit after your meal at your home.  My SIL in Independence, Missouri sent a couple of pictures of the snow outside her apartment yesterday.  I had to write her back and tell her we were at 80 degrees yesterday.  She didn't see any humor in my reply.  :)

Amy, I have copied the Easter Trilogy of Poems in case I do a Devotional for our Sunday School class again next year around Easter.  Thanks for sharing them. It sounds like you might have a long day in the city today.  However, nice you can spend some time with your kids and meet the Great Dane. It sounds like you might be removing your snow tires a bit prematurely.

deAngel, we did have a nice Easter dinner.  The kids weren't here very long as Scott had to be at work at 2 pm and it was almost 1 pm before everything was ready to eat since the two casseroles had to be baked when they got here.

Gloria, I also copied out the piece on the "Burial Cloth of Jesus".  I remember reading it before but had forgotten the story behind it.

Phyllis, nice that your son and DIL contacted you as sure that made your day extra special yesterday.  I am constantly amazed at how much laundry we always seem to have.  I expect Villanova to win the game tonight but we never know and that is why they play the game.  I just hope it is a good competitive game.  I got in on the last few second of the women's basketball final last night.  It was tied with just 3 second to go and the Notre Dame player threw up a shot and it went in to give the national title to Notre Dame.  I did not wat the "Jesus Christ Superstar" program as had read about it and it just didn't seem appealing to me.  However, it is really something for them to be able to do a live long show like that on TV.

Good morning everyone, 30°. Easter Sunday we had a sunny day, not too warm but nice. This morning it is snowing. Oh well 'tis New England and weather is always changing. Then again Mother Nature has been fickle this year. Just heard on TV that tomorrow we can expect rain.  This time the snow is more along the shoreline than here, they showed the roads there and they are covered. Here inland the roads are wet-no snow on them.

No time for replying, woke late and my CNA will be here in half an hour so better get dressed. Have a great day.

Larry yes I  even a few miles south of the Mason Dixon Line. it was to my knowledge that it ran through the center of Lonjack MO. running along US 50 highway.
but no problem here. except the weather is very cold, 27º while ago when I went to town according to the tem. checker in the car. wend is coming out of the north east here enough to blow right in the shop door, which i have long boom and panels laying through so can't shut it. so I just put the new plugin
On the extinction cord and came to the house. I there isn't another day wont matter anyway. Have a great day.

I was thinking about Joan this weekend and wondering....She is at peace now.  I have a good memory of meeting her in Arkansas on my way to Texas some years ago.  She was special and she will be missed!

Jenny, thank you so much for the post of our dear Joan's death. I miss her so much, and have missed her for a long time now. But I know she is with the God she worshiped and the husband she loved. And so many of our Seniors that have gone before her. There will be great rejoicing in Heaven. And she is still as close as a prayer.

I just had a late supper at home.  Feeling low, missing my Bis…..Joan. She was such a special lady. Did a lot of suffering with the lupus, now she is with the God that created her. I am so thankful to have had her while we did.

Nothing newsworthy here so I will bid you all a very Good night and a happy tomorrow. My Love, Hugs, and Prayers are with you. June

I'm up this morning and still missing our Joan.  I send Everyfriend a very Good Morning wish.  The doggies and I are waiting out their pill time and then I'll be off to WM to greet my public.

Yesterday was a fun day!  I waited till Kiran and her friend got up and then visited with them for a while.  When they were ready, we went to McDonalds for lunch and while they spent some time in the play area, I had a little chat with a father of 4 from New York State.  They were on their way to Washingto DC to soak up some history and were hoping that the cherry blossoms might be starting.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  Do with it whatever you wish.

Thank you, Jenny, for letting us know about Joan.  She has been missed here for a long time and I will remember her as someone that was always kind, generous, and helpful.

Gray day here.  I plan to do some much needed housework so it will be, hopefully, just an ordinary day.

Hi Everyone.  We are headed for another beautiful day and the people attending the Master's will certainly appreciate it.  This is a practice day for the pros but they sell tickets to attend that as well as the actual tournament so things are well underway in Augusta.  It is now in the mid-50's but we are headed to around 85 this afternoon.  This should be a quiet day as have nothing special on my calendar.  We might go out and eat our main meal of lunch time as Pat hasn't been out for several days.

I had an interesting day yesterday as I went to the AT&T store to have the SIM card on Pat's phone checked only to find out they no longer had the ability to do that on the type of phone she had.  I also found out why the phone had stopped working because a couple of days ago AT&T did a system update that made the phone obsolete.  I asked if they had a small flip phone like she prefers and they did, although it wasn't on display where they showed on the iPhones and Samsung Galaxy smart phones.  I bought the phone for Pat as it was actually a few dollars less than what I had spent for the VOCA, which is now useless and will be returned to Amazon for a refund.  They no longer had the equipment to transfer the contacts from her VOCA phone to the new AT&T phone.  However, when I got home and found the on line manual if said I could sign in to her Gmail account and it would download the contacts.  I had a frustrating time doing that but eventually accomplished that and saved a ton of work in trying to re-enter her contacts manually.  So now she should have a reliable phone.  Then yesterday afternoon the AC service tech came and checked out the A/C.  He found that something had caused a pressure problem that had shut down the A/C.  The unit is fine and he told me what to do if it happens again, which I documented so I wouldn't forget.  I was relieved that it wasn't a serious problem.  He didn't know why it had happened as apparently is not something he sees very often but said it was to protect the unit.  So now we once again have A/C in time for the 85 degrees this afternoon.  Last evening we finished up our Easter dinner left overs except for some turkey and a couple of pieces of pie.  Then at 9 pm I turned on the basketball game and watched Villanova beat Michigan pretty severely as they won the National Championship.

I do hope no one has purchased that VOCA phone based on my previous comments about it.  It really is a nice little phone but now obsolete, at least for AT&T.  It appears all of the phones are now using the nano sim cards rather than the larger ones.

Jenny, thanks for sharing the news about Joan.  I was just thinking of her this morning.  She fought a long and hard fight but always brightened the lives of other.  She certainly was a faithful member of our on line family.  I know her family will miss her.

Jane, I saw a picture a few days ago that showed the cherry blossoms in bloom and I expect they still are if they didn't get frozen.  Year ago, when we lived in Maryland, we went down to DC and walked among the Cherry blossoms.  They are quite a sight.

Good morning everyone, 27° so winter temperature is still here. Rain coming in later but sunny now. My son will be taking me to my appointment this afternoon.  Hope to get some stronger glasses this time. Getting hard to read because the print is getting small.

JENNY  over the week end for some reason I kept thinking about JOAN and wondering how she was doing. Thank you for the news, so sad but she is no longer suffering and is with her husband and with God. She will be missed by many who never met her in person.

BUBBLE  thanks for the forum for Joan. Now to find something to add there. I know I will always miss her.

In my prayers
Terri McPherson

As you make your way
through a fog of tears,
a landslide of heartache
and multiple fears,

I'll remember you
in my prayers.

While God holds you safe
in the palm of His hand
and sends His angels
to help you stand,

I'll remember you
in my prayers.

Each minute you long
for peace and rest,
courageously fighting
this willful test,

I'll remember you
in my prayers.

When a ray of hope
pierces the night
and your faith is renewed
by the heavenly sight,

I'll drop to my knees
and thank the Lord
for the grace of prayer
and your spirit restored.

Bye Bye Joan, you were such an important part of S&F.  Even when you got ill and were not able to post on line, your presence was felt and our thoughts turned to you while hoping to see you back.

Filling your shoes is impossible but Soda Shoppe will remain active: your memory shall live on here with all of us who got to know you in real life or only on the net.

Rest In Peace dear Joan.

Good morning everyone...

Yesterday was not a good day! We left here to go to the city for hubby's appointment only to run into a bit of snow but nothing really to worry about........till we got closer to the city!. Then it was horrible, the snow packed road turned into a skating rink with cars going every which way, stopping was done way back of the lights as you didn't stop , you slid. Tractor trailers were stuck on hills, one man in a car had attempted to go up a hill only to stop, then a young man came by on foot and turned his around by hand!!. I was so happy to get to our destination. One lady there told my  she has just put new snow tires on only to not be able to stop at a light but kept on coming.  As the day wore on the snow did melt baring the roads,so I phone son and told I'm we would come out.

Meeting the new addition was  a delight.....not to nose as I opened the door, his back is taller than the kitchen table .Thankfully this tall dark and handsome is well behaved, for some reason or other the kids didn't think that Cole should come home with us....I would have gladly taken him!

Bubble, thank you for the information on Joan and Jenny thank you for the obit. Joan will always be a special lady in our hearts. Knowing she is with God now makes the hurt  bearable. Can picture Joan ,Jeannee Lee and Hal together now.

Larry, I am sorry for all the frustration you went through with Pat's phone but happy to hear you have it all sorted out. Glad to know the a/c is fixed and not a big bill to have either.

Gloria, I find the print on bottles really hard to read. VON just left here and I am not sure what mischief I want to get into :) I did start another cat quilt so may do some of that.

Jane , have a great day at work with lots of smiles thorough your line.

Better go chase the dust bunnies here before I sew..

Enjoy your day everyone..

I am beginning to think the whole masses are going craze. we have large farming operation by oakgrove and loanjack MO. some of the godie two shoes are fighting there expanding. I say they are not thinking not only now but even more in the further how they will eat. this operation process meat and sell it to restaurants and grocery stores but to individual's also. they also sell quality bulls for breading purpose to smaller farmers such as my self, this is where i bought my latest bull from. unless the folks all in that aria are vegetarians they need them. even if they are i bet they would let them go around the edge of there hay field and pick some alpha sprouts.

so much bad in the best of us, so much good in the worst of us. that it behooves those left of to talk about the rest of us.
but we do it anyway.  Have a great day.

Mary Ann, I was thinking the same thing.... couldn't come up with a good name but considered "Joan's Juice Joint".... but it didn't sound like our dignified Joan.  Maybe "Joan's Place"......

Lloyd, we have a group here fighting a cell tower going up & my thoughts same as yours.... the ones fighting are the ones that gripe the loudest when they don't get good service.

Amy, my daughter & husband drove back to St.Louis Easter day in same mess you had.... took them more than twice the normal time & she said they were both exhausted beyond exhaustion even the next day, but they had to get back.  Said cars, trucks & all were flipped over & in ditches.  Glad you got home safe.  My youngest son has a Great Dane & very sad over Easter that his is losing control of his back legs.  They don't have a long life but certainly are lovable, this is his 2nd one and know he will probably get another.  I tried to give him hope that maybe he would feel better when the dampness is gone.... think they do get arthritis like people, vet provided some pain pills for now & they give him glucosamine & anything else to keep him going.

It is bitter cold today, wind blowing so chill index way below actual temp.  Must get to Walmart to buy tuna & salmon for cats.... they are being picky right now, act like they don't want the chicken from Sam's & even leaving part of their canned Friskies in their bowls.  They are not out running around in this cold but will walk down to the river if I go with them.  Their mother (Callie) has decided she wants to become a house cat and is trying very heard to do what I say, bless her heart.  I just ordered the flea & tick stuff for them, they need rabies shots but have not figured how to handle that.... they are all so much heavier than old LaurenKat was & getting 3 to the vet for shots is really a chore. Got to think about it.

Hugs to all, it is a sad day, no matter how long someone is ill, we are not ready to know all hope of returning is gone.

Thank you, Amy, it is just continuing the same name, only putting Joan's name in front.  She possibly is the one who coined the name anyway.

It is starting to rain here and we may have snow before it's over.  It is cold and windy here and I just realized we haven't picked up the mail yet.  Well,  on will go the winter coat because Tom just took off for awhile and I don't want to wait until 9 pm to see if we have any mail.

Shirley, I can agree with the exhaustion part as today I seem to not get much done. Summer tires are on and winter ones put away and tomorrow will take the other van in to get summers on. Made buttermilk tea biscuits to have with tea when VON came and napped!! Maybe tomorrow will be more productive..

Lloyd, what gets me is people moving out to the country then complaining about the smell of manure!!! Really people!!!!

Mary Ann we are to have snow/freezing rain tonight..not looking forward to that.

Amy & Mary Ann, I agree this should be "Joan's Soda Shoppe"..... just wanted to confirm to y'all that my mind was traveling the same path, to create a tribute to Joan.

I copied the link for my son, Amy, thanks.  I'll be he has it on order right away.  Looks like your biscuits are like what we call biscuits and not the sweet cookies that the English call "biscuits".  I can still hear our landlord laughing and making a face every time I mentioned fixing "biscuits & gravy".  The gravy he pictured was meat (brown) gravy and biscuits were cookies... does tend to turn the tummy upside down.

Amy, we have people come out here to Eastern Long Island, because they like the country.  Then complain because the sound of irrigation  and plowing wake them up early in the morning. They forget the farmer is growing there food.  I think it is the same all over, not in my back yard.

Years ago, we  used to live across the road from a big  pig farm, that had been there for several generations.   Every once in a while,  new people would move into the area, knowing very  well the pig farm was there, and then complain about the smell and would go so far to try to get it shut down.  I used to think that was so crazy !

Good morning everyone..

Not a nice day at all out there, woke to snow and freezing rain. Let the dogs out and could hear the tree limbs cracking so I hope we don't loose power. Will leave the snow where it lays as it will be some form of traction. I don't think the snow tires will be coming off today, I am sure there are better days to do it. Will just take the day as it comes.

Where is June???
Hope everyone has a great day..

Same here  Lindancer and Joy, it seems that whenever strangers to the area move in around here letters to the local paper start appearing complaining firstly of the church bells ringing on a sunday morning !, followed by complaints of the smells/noises coming from the local farms !, next month , we can expect to have the usual complaints about the Folk Dancers, as the dance around the Village in the early hours  on May 1st, shock - horror !, you would think  strangers moving into a village community or a rural area would expect life to be different from a City life, why else would they move ?.   ::).   Cheers,  Roley.

Good morning Everyfriend1  We have rain!  And we're going to have it all week!  That could get depressing except that I'll try to remember to be thankful that it isn't snow!  That should bring a little joy with the bleak skies.

We're waiting out the doggies pils and then we'll be running.  I go to work at 10 this morning and that's just about when we start getting busy on Wednesdays.  It's Farmers' Market Day in this area and they do the market and WM at the same time and sometimes have lunch at Country Cupboard (a local restaurant that's practically across the street from WM.

I realized that I didn't even check in to say Good Night last night.  I was really tired.  I'm also wondering....Where's June!

I am envying those of you who are having rain.  We need it very much here for helping the grass and flowering shrubs to grow but also, to wash away some of this ugly pine pollen.  It is very heavy this year and has spread a yellow dusting on everything.   :ugh:

I am wondering about June, too, and praying that she is all right.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe of April 01,2018
Post by: larryhanna on April 04, 2018, 07:50:16 AM
Hi Everyone.  I woke up and decided to get up early, at least 5:30 is early for me.  About 6 am it started to rain but only did that for about 30 minutes.  We have a 50% chance of rain the rest of the morning and then the afternoon will be partly cloudy so the activities at the Master's shouldn't be impacted too much today.  The Golf Channel is doing a lot of programming from there all day.  I watched some of that yesterday and enjoyed listening to a couple of the interviews with the best golfers that they had.  The azaleas are truly beautiful here now as they are in full bloom.  The only thing on the schedule today is that the kids will be out this evening.  Scott is going to make his taco pie for our dinner.  We have some salad to go along with it.  It is a very filling meal.  I am hopeful he will be willing to install a couple more of the pull out shelves we got several weeks ago.  Yesterday afternoon Pat and I went to the new Dollar Tree store we have nearby where she got cards for the card ministry of our Sunday School class. We then stopped over at the Dairy Queen for our main meal of the day.  I had a delicious hamburger sandwich that was a full meal followed by a free Dilly Bar that I got because I filled out an on line survey.  She had their $6 meal of a small hamburger sandwich with French fries, a drink and a small Sunday.  It was not busy in the restaurant and we enjoyed a very leisurely meal.  It was warm yesterday afternoon as it got up to 85 degrees.

Gloria, I hope your eye appointment went well and you will soon be able to see better. I do believe they are making the print smaller on things and one almost needs a magnifying glass to read the writing.  Hope you get some warmer weather up your way before long.

Bubble, I think your comments about Joan expressed well how many of us felt about her and how we have and will continue to miss her.  Thank you for what you are doing to help fill the void along with others who share nice things for us to read.  Each of us are unique so our shoes really can't be filled by someone else.  That helps make life so interesting.

Amy, what a nightmare situation you had getting to the city.  Sure glad you were able to make it safely and that conditions improved while you were there.  That sounds like quite a dog.  Everytime I have had the A/C tech out the bill is over $100 but know it could have been worse if he had needed to really do any serious work.  The unit itself is guaranteed but the labor isn't.  We will schedule a maintenance visit every spring.  He said he thought that would be enough unless there would be a problem with the heating since the unit isn't very old.  Pat recently got some material that has frogs on it and it is very cute.  I really have no idea what she will do with it but as long as she enjoys having it that is fine.  Sure doesn't sound like you should be taking your snow tires off yet, especially today.  I hope you don't get too much snow and freezing rain today.

Mary Ann, that is a delightful idea to put Joan's name in front of Soda Shoppe.  We would need to ask Pat's permission to do so since she owns the site.

Lloyd, the farming business has really changed over the years with many of the smaller farmers forced out of business.  However, that is the way of our economy in that if you can't compete your can't survive.  I just hope the import/export taxes that the US and China are imposing on each other does not force more small farmers out of business.

Shirley, that sounded like a nightmare trip back to St. Louis and sure glad they made it safely.  Your cats really keep you busy but know you get great joy out of having them.  It sounds like it would be a difficult job to take all three to the vets at the same time.

deAngel,  Joy and Roley, I have never understood the thinking that it is all right to put things in someone else's neighborhood but just don't put them in mine such as shelters for the homeless.  It is sort of like people migrating to a country and then demanding that the country change to accommodate them.

Phyllis, our pine pollen didn't stay around very long in this area.  We had two rains that helped eliminate it before it had a chance to get bad.  However, there remains a high pollen count in the air from other growing things.  I also wonder about June as she usually posts late in the day.

June posted shortly after the news came about Joan.  My first thought when hearing the news was how hard this would be for June, I think she had a special place in her heart for Joan, like a sister or family, for sure.  Some grieve in silence and others are vocal....... We have lost some special people recently, Jeanne Lee, Hal & now, Joan, that did a lot to keep us rolling.  Group hugs, right?

I envy any of you getting rain or snow, we are SO dry here and the wind has been awful.  One gust on top of another yet they don't call it "sustained winds".....  How about 70 tomorrow & snow next day?  Gripe, gripe, gripe!

Larry, I have never had a meal at Dairy Queen, none on my beaten path........but I used to love their ice cream.  I have a long ago high school friend that lives in Andersen, SC ... her house backs up to a lake & yard is glorious with azaleas.  I tried growing them here but they can't survive our cold winters.

Off to take care of cats, the fence crew will arrive at 9:30 and I need to TRY to show them how the fence was designed by my husband to swing panels out so the inserts will slide in from the top.  Son & gr-son were impressed when they took the old out.   The cats will not appreciate having strangers in their pool area!

Good morning everyone, 38°. Thick fog this morning here, weather guessers say will get up to 60° and possible thunder storms this afternoon. Started raining when my son picked me up  yesterday and by the time we headed home it was pouring. Glad I had my winter jacket on. Appreciated the warmth of it. Will be getting  new glasses in a couple of weeks.

BUBBLE  well said. No one could ever fill Joan's shoes. I was wondering if Joan and Bunnie will start teaching angels how to use PSP in heaven.

AMY  my son and I were complaining about the rain yesterday but at least it was not snow. So many do not  know how to drive on snowy roads and think they can drive like on dry roads. Like you my foot would come off the gas when approaching a light or stop sign, better than braking and thinking you will stop right away. I have a good magnifying glass that I have to use to read labels where the print is always so small.

MARY ANN  I have always thought of the SS as Joan's like the old Bis Busy Nest back in SN where I first met Joan and many others. Some that post here in the SS I first met there.

LLOYD  this town has used to be a mill town with locals working in the mills. They are all closed now and folks from the city started moving in. They bough land and built near a chicken/egg place that had been there for generations and then complained about the smell. Those new comers got into local politics and forced that farm to close. Sad.

SHIRLEY  seems this days the vets treat dogs for the same thing people get from allergies to hearts.

AMY  I copied the link to send to my family who have dogs. My grandson's Lab has a heart valve installed, cost him $5,000.

GLORIA de  same all over, city people move to the country and want the things they had in the city and complain about the lack or street lights or dirt roads or smells from farm animals.  Same as those who come to the USA and want their own traditions. If they are that great go back where you come from. We don't need or want your traditions or likes.

ROLEY/ PETER  looks like people are the same all over the world. This town is not the same as it was when I first moved here more than 60 years ago. It was peaceful and everyone was friendly and lot or them related. People waved at  each other and talked together. The city people are not friendly. Some churches have chimes that  ring on the hour during the day and they wanted them stopped because they were annoying them. They are still ringing.

JOAN  this looks like a dismal week here, too.

PHYLLIS  my daughter is hoping for rain, too. So far this year where they are in Arizona they had 2 inches rain and not at one time either. Being high desert the rain just soaks in but not enough to cut the dust.

LARRY hope the new glasses work better. He really looks deep in my eyes and saw I have some ligquid in one of them that makes things blur. I will be getting some drops to put in and if that does not work he will send me to a specialist.

SHIRLEY  I am one who holds feelings in. Wish I could put words to how I feel. June does have a way with words that  I envy. Time to get moving here.

Have a good day everyone.

No one could ever fill Joan's shoes. I was wondering if Joan and Bunnie will start teaching angels how to use PSP in heaven.

Oh Gloria, what a comforting idea! After all the years I  still miss Bunnie very much. Do you remember the date she passed away?  With the last crush of the site, we lost that particular forum with all the names and details :(

Amy, we woke up to a white world this morning, too.  Our temperature is now 29F degrees but I think we'll get in to the high 30s so much of the snow should disappear.  At the first thing in the morning, the snow is beautiful.

One year I had my snow tires removed on a day when the snow was blowing sideways.  Boy, did I get kidded!  That must have been the only time I had snow tires and I don't remember why; maybe my car salesman brother (Norm) suggested it.

Roley, I don't see why people don't find out how a community works before they start trying to change things.  I don't live in a small town, but I think I'd enjoy it.

Good morning.  It is a very dreary, rainy, windy morning here in Central Maryland.  But supposed to be in the upper 60's and then colder again tomorrow, and possibly, some significant snow o the week end.  When is it going to end????

Nothing special in my neck of the woods.  I have to go out this afternoon to have my taxes done.  Not a big deal as it won't take very long. I have a very simple tax prep.  I go to our local Human Resources office and it doesn't cost me anything.  I used to go to the Senior Center where they had AARP volunteers do your taxes, but this year they couldn't get enough volunteers. So, they refereed me to Human Resources in our county.  I think they are college students in their CPA classes that do them.   Won't take that long.

Hope everyone will have a nice, safe day.

Jenny, you know me very well. There are times to rejoice and there are times when some of us need to be still. Thank you for understanding.

Remember when our program Srs. and Friends was suddenly dropped by the people or organization  that first started us? out of a clear sky, were gone. Then Pat Scott and her husband jumped right in and took over and did whatever is necessary to have this "show"....finances ????? I don't know, but I somehow feel that our Joan/Bis would prefer our title to include those who give us this space to be a family. Does anyone feel as I do, that we should show our appreciation to those who provide this space ? Joan/Bis, will always be a member in our thoughts and prayers. Always.

Where is everybody  ? Since I posted this morning there have been no replys. I hope I didn't offend any one.

I went down for Bible Study..a good discussion with our young Pastor Jeff. He reminds me so much of my son Gary...good men, both of them.

Came home to clean up some cards and paperwork. Was sitting on my rollator and reached out to0 far and ended up on my butt on the floor...HARD. So I am suffering from a sore back and butt. The back really hurts, tylenol extra strength helps a little. I sure get attention from clinic. I have had my b.p., pulse, and oxygen taken three times today. What that has to do with an aching back I don't know...but it's what they want to do with we foolish old ladies. I am staying home and keeping quiet..taking walks in the apt.just to keep limber, and will fix a light supper.

I hope the rest of you are in good shape. Bis is in a lovely place now where she can keep tabs on the rest of us down here. I love you my Bis.

Well, JUNE, I haven't been hanging out on the computer much today because since I got home from work, I let the doggies out, made lunch, fed the doggies a snack and fed myself, Then I curled up on the sofa and slept away the afternoon.  Then, because the days are longer, I went out and did a couple of errands so I don't have to do them tomorrow.

It's so nice to remember something that needs doing, look up at the window and realize that there's still time to do it this evening.

Now I'm going to wish Everyfriend a very GOOD night and a happy tomorrow.

JUNE, I hope your B&B both feel better tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, 29° but the wind makes it fee; much colder. The wind hitting the windows and howling around did not make for a solid sleep.

BUBBLE  I do not remember when Bunnie passed away but like you I still miss her. She got me into PSP. Talked me into downloading V8 trial. After that ran out I bought the disk. Joan is the one who got me into taking lessons. Both were so helpful when I got stuck on something. I still remember when I first saw the PSP folder in SN and saw the work there. Fascinating to think that someone working on their PC at home could do animation. There were so many doing it back then but now there is just you and Patricia. There was a lot of our PSP lost when SN shut us out.

MARY ANN  do you remember when they had the studded snow tires? They were a hit here but they chewed up the roads and were banned after a couple of years. Your remark to Roley reminded me of a woman who moved here on the second floor. She had her SIL go with her to knock on a neighbor's door to tell her to stop her dog from barking because it was annoying. Neighbor does not have a dog and invited her in to look around for one. A few days later she went down to see the witch and complain about the lady above her because she made too much noise when she walks. That on is my next to me and I never hear her. That  newcomer used to work where I did and she was weird then.

JOY  your weather yesterday was the same here.

JUNE  yes JOAN will always live on in our memories. It was a sad time when SN shut us out.

PAT  we all had prayers that Joan would start feeling better and come in to at least say hello. We will all miss her. Thank you again for starting up S&F. I know I felt lost without our cyber family. Prayers that you are feeling better every day.

WOW looks like I am the first one here this morning. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone...

The winds have finally died down. I would imagine a lot of widow makers came down in the woods!! We did lose power for a bit, not too long though. Hubby started the generator but it wouldn't hold a charge so off to town we went to buy a new battery.

Hope that is it for snow but weather guessers are calling for more, bless their hearts. The snow that came yesterday was heavy and wet,

Today we are taking the old battery in for a refund and will pick up a few groceries then home.

June, hope you feel better today..that sudden stop is hard on you!!

Gloria, our temp is 0° F at the moment and a nice sunny day. Sure hope the wind doesn't start back up .

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We have our cold weather back...down in the low 30s and I'm not happy with that.  Last night, when I let the doggies out for the last time, there were snowflakes dancing around the porch light.  However, that must have been all we got because nothing is white this morning.

I'm going to spend the morning with "Bill" today!  We're going on a spending spree!  We're going to buy some electricity, some insurance, some water, gasoline, healthcare, and maybe a little TV.  I'd really rather "Bill" would just disappear but he keeps hanging around until I decide to give him some of my time....and a lot of my money!

I hope you all have a lovely day!  Make of it whatever you wish!

The temp. dropped into the 30's here, too, last night after a very warm and breezy day yesterday.  "They" kept telling us it was going to rain here sometime in the afternoon.....it didn't.

I watched a little bit of the Augusta golf, Larry.  The azaleas and the whole course looked beautiful.  And so many people in the gallery!!  I saw Jack Nicklaus's grandson make a hole in one.  I think Jack was more excited by that than anything he has ever done himself.  It was a nice moment.  I plan to watch more of the actual tournament this afternoon but I must do the weekly grocery shopping this morning.

Sorry that you had another spill, June, and that you are sore and aching as a result.  I hope you heal very quickly.

Have a nice day, All.

Hi Everyone.  This morning starts out as a chilly  but sunny 47 degrees and we should go to about 70 degrees.  It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day for the first day of the Master's Tournament. I have a few things to do this morning.  I don't have to pick up my friend to go to coffee as he has a medical appointment but will still go down for coffee.  While I am downtown I will got to the City Hall and pay our City Property Taxes.  Yesterday I paid the State  Income Tax on line using our credit card. I also plan on making a quick stop at the Church office to pick up a parking placard.  Our Church and the Baptist Church are allowing the baseball team that will be playing in the new stadium to use the parking lots during games and other events at the ballpark.  There will be a five dollar charge to park except for Church members displaying the placard and needing to do something at the Church.  After expenses the revenue from the parking will be shared half and half with the Churches.  The team is supplying all of the labor and covering the liability issues and are to leave the parking lots clean.  I will be watching the Master's Golf Tournament this afternoon.

We had a nice evening with Scott and Elizabeth but Jennifer wasn't here.  She had physical therapy yesterday and was too tired to come out.  The Taco Pie was very good and after dinner Scott put in the remaining slide out shelves in the kitchen.  That leaves only two to install in the master bathroom.

Shirley, we are really enjoying eating at the Dairy Queen.  There hamburgers are very tasty.  The only thing I have had that I didn't enjoy very much was the BBQ pulled pork sandwich.  I know you will be happy to have your new fence in place.

Gloria, are you expecting more snow up your way this weekend?  I read yesterday that they expect 6 to 13 inches of snow in DC over the weekend, which is the weekend best suited for viewing the cherry blossoms.  Sorry that you have to deal with an eye problem and will have to put in drops in your eye.  I found that a pretty difficult task. When you live in an apartment building with a floor above you likely will hear footsteps.  That does sounds like weird lady that would complain about that.  I really like the "Gardening God's Way" piece and have copied it and will save it in my Devotional Materials folder.

Bubble, we lost a lot when they suddenly took down the SeniorNet Discussion site without warning.  I really lost respect for the organization as so many of us had put so much time and effort into making it what it was.  Unfortunately there didn't seem to be much crossover between the people in the discussions and the people involved with the Learning Centers and the Learning Centers always had the priority, at least in my view.

Joy, glad to see you have a place where you can get your taxes done without cost to you.  I hope the weatherman is wrong about your weekend weather but it sure sounds like you will be getting some more snow.  At least it won't stay on the ground very long.

June, I was relived to read your postings this morning but so sorry that you have had another fall that has created new aches and pains.  You and your floor seem to be getting well acquainted.  :)  Just glad you haven't broken a bone in the falls.  I don't think you need to worry about offending anyone.  Sometimes there are lapses in time between postings.

Amy, it always seems that there is something that doesn't work when needed as you experienced with your generator.  It sure sounds like your snow season isn't over yet. You commented about "widow makers" with regard to trees coming down.  I don't understand what you were referring to.

Jane, I spent sometime with "bill" yesterday myself as it was the day to pay off the credit card and also pay the taxes.

Phyllis, I didn't watch any of the Par 3 event at the Master's yesterday afternoon so missed the shot made by Jack Nicklaus's grandson.  It sounds like there may be another Nicklaus golfer in the future of pro golf.

Larry, I saw the Nicklaus grandson's hole in one on the computer news.  It was a neat shot, going a couple of feet beyond the hole, then rolling back into the hole. Did you know that Sam Saunders, already a pro, is Arnold Palmer's grandson.

We had 19 degrees at 6:30 am.  I don't like such cold weather in April as our fruit trees will be budding out soon.  We have apples and peaches in our area, cherries up north.

Tom got my tax form in position so I could print it, which I have now done.  I'll have to look it over, then sign the form and write a check.  I'm going to have a lot of money taken from that one account, but I have a place to transfer money from if necessary.  I have the money but it hurts to pay so much all at one time.

Larry, a "widow maker" is a dead limb that comes down when a person is cutting a tree and kills them .With the high winds here yesterday a lot of those limbs have come down but some may be caught still in the tree so one has to be careful.

Well......a very Good Morning to all of you friendly folks. I really enjoyed reading your posts. Sorry about "Bill" keeping you busy, but the results we have are pretty essential for our happy lives.

I could barely make it out of bed this morning due to my hard "pratt" fall yesterday. More carelessness on my part,so I pay for it with pain. Nurse was in bright and early this morning. I nurse myself with the Tylenol, and she reminded me not to overdo with the amount. My computer has already told me the same. Blood pressure was down to a good level for me...148. Last night it was in the low 170,s.

Time to have my second cup of coffee and breakfast, and then take some more pills, b.p.,asprin,and clonazapam .

Can't believe it's past noon already & all I have to show for my day is feeding myself & 3 cats, cut my hair & cleaned me up.  I am stalling since we are supposed to get to 70 today & not there yet, need to do some outside chores, a trip to Sam's Club & maybe even stop to pick up something more tasty than what is in my 'frig.

June, sorry about the last fall.... I'm right there with you, can't seem to keep myself out of trouble.  I thought about your suggestion of putting down newspaper when cutting hair.... but I quit taking the paper when Cas died, all I read was the obits & can read them online.  He read every inch on the paper but I catch important news on TV or computer & avoid "Opinions" every where I can.  I have my own "opinion" and doesn't always conform with everyone else's.   ;D

Larry, when I go to Sam's Club there is a Dairy Queen not far.... sounds SO good today so think I'll check out their menu & see what will make the trip back to my house without losing taste.  I keep 3 coolers in the back of my little car, one for hot, one for cold & the other for "whatever".  I don't like to eat out by myself so always bring home & eat while watching TV.

Off & running, everyone take care, will check in tonight.  Oh, don't remember who asked when Bunnie died, I called DorisA last night to see if she could pinpoint, couldn't, but suggested someone do a search ... her last name was Dalton.  She said she found SS place good for that kind of info (birth & death records).  I do like the thought that Joan & Bunnie are giving lessons on PSP in Heaven... and maybe Glenn Curtis is explaining how to do morphs & animations I learned from him & since forgot how to.  :crazy2:

Amy, we have summer today & warning of snow/ice & whatever tomorrow.  I'm ready for one season or another, my clothes are now stacked up on top of each other since we've had enough warm to dig out lighter weight stuff.

Mary Ann, nice to hear about the gr-sons coming along to play golf.... my husband loved the game to play and watch.

Shirley, I like to watch golf and notice a kind of "science" in how they do it.  I can see when watching that the grounds are not as level as they look so the players have to aim in order to compensate.  I love it when the balls start out in the opposite direction from where the hole is and end up in the hole.  I have never wanted to play golf and still don't.  For me it's a great spectator sport.

Mary Ann, you probably would have been a great golfer, my husband thought it was a "thinker's" sport and had to have a good memory for how the greens rolled, etc.  His worst problem was when he got embarrassed or goofed on a hole it would throw his game off until he could forget it.  I had one brother that loved the game, was a caddy during his young years & played to win during his later years. I don't think he plays anymore but is still going hard... will be 93 in Sept. Here in KS a lot of the guys are in the oil or gas industry & deals are made on the golf course.  Rough life, huh?   ;)

It is such a pleasant night, I've been out to run the sweeper in the RV & "install" the new JUMBO litter box that came today.  We had an old one with a lid but Tom would never have fit in, LaurenKat was so tiny in comparison. Hopefully this will help keep that gritty litter from tracking all over.... I put a pad in front where they step out but seems to go everywhere anyway.  Have to keep it in the bedroom since when I am away they are locked in there.

Tomorrow should be an interesting weather day.... so the guessers keep telling us.  Wishing everyone sweet dreams and a peaceful night.... and, as Lloyd says, "hope to see you tomorrow!"  Shirley

We are in Arizona with my Dad and Diane.  It is so good to see and be here with him. He definitely has gone down hill, but is very happy we are here.  Today my friend Patti came and picked me up to go look at houses.  She found one she liked so now she has her work cut out for her.

Our Mark is officially in the PGA.  He finished up the end of last year with all his requirements, but had to wait until April 2nd for the official date.  W3 are so proud of him.

I must head to bed....pleasant dreams to all.

Good Morning.,  Another dreary , cloudy, misty morning.    A wintry mess is predicted, but not supposed to be too bad as it is supposed to warm up a little bit.  Just another little glitch preventing spring to show up.  I guess eventually, it will get here.  Just hope that all of a sudden summer will appear with no spring at all.

Jenny,  great news for your son.  So happy that you got to visit with your dad.

Nothing much going on today.  Need to do a little bit of straightening up and finish up a good book I have been reading on my Kindle.  Nothing exciting planned for the week end.

Have a wonderful day,

Hi Everyone. It is another beautiful day and we are to get up to around 80 this afternoon.  Our housekeeper just arrived so we will have a nice clean house shortly afternoon.  We plan on staying home today and not going out to eat.  We have chili in the freezer that needs to be eaten so that will be our main item for our dinner this evening.  Yesterday I went to the City Hall to pay our taxes only to find the window was closed for the day as the lady was not there.  So I will have to try again.

Yesterday I found that I could watch the Masters on the computer and there were no commercials.  If you are interested just use www.masters.com.  At the moment I am listening to an interesting interview done with Jack Nickalus  and Gary Players.  I plan on watching a lot more this way the next three days.

Lloyd, I relate to what you said about eating although there are foods I do not care for and don't eat.

Mary Ann, I hadn't seen your post here when I wrote over in Norm's Bait and Tackle Shop.  I did know about Arnold Palmer's grandson playing on the tour.

Amy, thanks for the explanation of the widow marker.

June, sorry to see that you are having to suffer so much.  Hope today finds you feeling some better.

Shirley, I haven't subscribed to a newspaper for many years but do a lot of reading of news sights on the computer and then catch the local and evening news on TV.  I hope what you selected at Dairy Queen was very tasty.

Jenny, glad you are visiting with your Dad and Diane.  Time does take a toll on us as we age as we all know.  You certainly have reason to be proud of Mark and his PGA membership.

Phyllis, they are predicting rain for us tomorrow.  Just hope it doesn't cause the Master's to be delayed too much.

Good Afternoon, Everyfriend,

I became officially engaged 60 years ago today  It was Easter Sunday and I had just barely recovered from the "3-day" measles that my darling Second Graders had so generously shared with me!

The weather was definitely nicer because one of the pix from that day is of me sitting on the ice cream freezer while fiance turned the crank.

Weather guru started this morning's report with "Rain, thunder, snow, sleet, ice during the next 24 hours - yep,  Oklahoma weather!"
I did make it to pick up my tax stuff this morning.  It was misting when I went - raining steadily when I came home.  Now gray and gloomy with temperature dropping.

Jenny,  you hadn't mentioned Diane during the recent reports on your Dad.  I'm glad to know she's still there with him.
Congratulations to Mark!  Will look forward to seeing his name in headlines before too long.

Amy,  rodeo cowboys sometimes call a particular bucking bronco a "widow maker".

June,  I'm so sorry for your latest mishap.  So glad, though, that there seem to be good people taking good care of you.   Gentle  :hugs: to you.

Shirley,  you wrote   "...can't seem to keep myself out of trouble" and then "off and running...
Hmmm -  think there might  be a correlation here?      ::)

JaneS,  Just about the time I think "Bill" has gone away....he reappears in the mailbox!  Wish he'd go somewhere else and stay there!

Off to find something useful to do - or what mischief I can get into.   ;D

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Snowing again!! Spring took a wrong turn somewhere!!

We had a great day, I managed to get some lovely fabric and two backings. Stopped for lunch before we came home, tiring day but a fun one.

June, a long soak in some Epsom salt water may help you. Sure hope you feel better soon.

Callie, do you remember what flavour of ice cream you were making?

Jenny, I forgot to congratulate Mark!! Way to go!

Jane, hope you had all smiles through your line today..

Going to go rest, put my feet up and watch tv....

Jenny, congratulations to Mark & glad you are having this visit with your father.  Give him an extra hug from someone that wishes she had a father around to hug.

Callie, I have felt guilty all day that we are sending this "crappy" weather on down.  Getting colder by the minute & wind blowing trees like whips.  Andy is going on a Boy Scout camp out in SE KS this week end, he teaches for their CPR badge but loves to camp & loves kids.  Not sure how I manage to keep getting into trouble, life happens!  :crazy2:  Nice memory  :smitten:

June, I'm going to have to break down & practice what I preach.... have a "crick" in my back like I haven't had for 30 years.  Was telling my good friend here about it & we decided "must be a sign of getting older"...... you think?   Getting out the Epsom salt, & heat pad.  Sorry you are still hurting..... my pain is like an abscessed tooth & you know how that hurts to bite down, same when I step down & the crick is in place.  Just a pinched nerve that needs a soaking to set free.

Larry, I didn't get by Dairy Queen after all.... settled for a piece of pizza & drink since I was already at Sam's.  Today I needed to get a sympathy card for my gr-son's wife, her gr-mother died..... so I stopped at Arby's for their new Greek gyro, 2 for $6 so I brought home 2 different ones... gal said one is lamb (traditional Greek food) & other roast beef.  The Greek was very tasty, in case you are looking for something different for a change.  One was more than I could eat, had to peel off some of the wrap.

Did I mention that the fence around the pool looks better than I even hoped it would?!  A job I don't expect to repeat as long as I stay here.  Next the pool job & then our trip to CO... well, quite a bit of going on in between, but no major repairs.

Will check in later tonight..... everyone behave!

Ah, Amy, you snuck in.... okay, not a word but it'll do.  Glad you also mentioned the Epsom salt, I'm starting to feel self conscious about preaching it's merits so often.  :-\

Lots of smiles in my lines...one long one and one short one.  I was tired when I got home but not exhausted.  I did a few things (let dogs out, fed them, ate lunch put some stuff away...) Then I changed my clothes and the ones I put on were all smeared over with zzzzs.  I simply couldn't resist!

Enjoy your evening!

Good morning everyone.

A chilly 18° here and windy, not much new snow, just  a skiff which is enough!

Laundry day here, plus we need to take the garbage away. That should keep me busy enough today.

Shirley, Epsom salt is used here a lot, in the garden , on sutures on dogs, plus in the bath. Which reminds me I had better pick some more up for when I plant tomatoes.

Well my work isn't going to get done with me sitting here and I just may be able to hang the laundry out.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, 37°. What a day yesterday was, started with sunshine then rain then a mix and then with 2½ inches of snow. That melted when the sun came out around 5:30pm.

JENNY  congratulations to Mark. All his hard work is starting to pay off. Glad you are with your Dad in Arizona.

AMY  hope you got just what was on your list yesterday at the sale.

PHYLLIS  glad you let us know you are "still alive and kicking". That is much better than us worrying about you.

JUNE  hope your back is starting to feel better. I do know what back pain feels like.

SHIRLEY  why behave? Have no fun when we do. Every home should have Epsom salts, I know I do. Did you know it was good in gardens, too?

JANE  wish my couch had Zzzzz's in it, only has some rest for my back. Have a great day.

For those of you old enough to remember Red Skelton, I think you will enjoy this. For those of you not old enough, you will see what you missed. Either way, his humor was always clean and he was a great entertainer. A re-run of great 'one liners' from the man who was known for his clean humor.
I hope you get a chuckle or two reading them once more.

1. Two times a week we go to a nice restaurant, have a

little beverage, good food and companionship.

She goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.

2. We also sleep in separate beds.

Hers is in California , and mine is in Texas ....

3. I take my wife everywhere,

but she keeps finding her way back.

4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary.

"Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said.

So I suggested the kitchen.

5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.

6. She has an electric blender, electric

toaster and electric bread maker.

She said "There are too many gadgets, and no place

to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.

7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well

because there was water in the carburetor.

I asked where the car was. She told me, "In the lake."

8. She got a mud pack and looked great for two days.

Then the mud fell off.

9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling, "Am I too late

for the garbage?" The driver said, "No, jump in!".

10. Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

11. I married Miss Right.

I just didn't know her first name was 'Always'.

12. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months.

I don't like to interrupt her.

13. The last fight was my fault though.

My wife asked, "What's on the TV?"

I said, "Dust!".

Can't you just hear him say all of these?

I love it. These were the good old days when humor

didn't have to start with a four-letter word.

It was just clean and simple fun.

And he always ended his programs with the words,

"And May God Bless", and with a big smile on his face.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Today is dog food day.  I'm making it for immediate use and for the freezer for when I go to Texas.  I always have it in meal size containers so my doggie sitter just has to remember to move it from the freezer to the fridge.

GLORIA, I remember almost all those Red Skelton jokes!  Did you know that he made a recording just for kids?  And do you remember who closed his show with "Good night , Mrs Calabash, wherever you are!" as he walked into the dusk?

We're waiting out the pill and the next batch of dog food.  So I'm here to wish Everyfriend a great day.

Laundry is blowing  and I hope I pegged it down tight or it will be off and flying! Great drying breeze.

Gloria,I left a lot there for others  ;)      managed to pick up some panels for children's quilts, animals,  farm tractors, CAT machinery and TRex's
Loved the Red Skelton jokes  and I wish they would put the show back on. You could have a great laugh and no profanity or rude remarks. Would also like to see Carol Burnett back on also.

Jane, was that Jimmy Durante that said this after his wife passed?

Better get the garbage loaded and head to the dump.

Stay warm..

Good Morning  Everyone,  from the
cool and overcast,  rocky coast of Maine.

Our weather is very strange this year....
More snow on the way  (but of course,
of course,  little to no accumulation)

I remember loving Red Skelton...  Always
a very funny guy.     Best if seen in person,
on the stage,  as his antics  went a long
way to make his "sometimes "very sexist
remarks, funny.      He brought joy to a
lot of people.

Similar to "Archie Bunker"  and " Roseanne"
Comedy is a very "funny" (pun intended!
of course) thing....    I always enjoyed them...
More so then, than now.
And always better "in person"  in order to
truly appreciate their whole comedic act.

For sure,  being able to laugh is good for us.!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it is going to be a rainy day here in our area. It sounds like the golfers at the Masters will have a long day and perhaps not get to play much golf.  It is only to get up around 60 today.  I feel for those who paid big money for the tickets to the Masters for today being out in the cold and rain.  I guess as long as we aren't having lightning and not raining too hard they will continue to play.

I really accomplished nothing yesterday as it was one of those days that I just had to rest.  I think today is going to be pretty much the same although may make a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a prescription and get some bread.  I am not going to attend my meeting this morning.  I do have things in the kitchen squared away and am ready to prepare Pat's breakfast when she arises.  We did not go out to eat yesterday as we often do on the day the housekeeper is here as neither one of us felt up to it.  Fortunately we had a meal of beef stew in the freezer that made a good evening meal.

June, it is wonderful that they can do the xray right in your apartment and that you don't have to go somewhere to get it done.  Sure hope you didn't break a bone in your back.

Callie, I am always a bit amazed when people can remember the dates like when they got engaged.  It sure didn't sound like you had a nice weather day over your way yesterday.  I have always heard the term "widow maker" in relationship to a heart attack with sudden death.  I have a number of my bills that are set amounts each month just automatically paid on my credit card.  That sure reduces the number of bills I get each month in the mail box.

Amy, glad you had a great day yesterday but I suppose most days with a visit to the fabric store are pretty good.  Carol Burnett is one of my all time favorites.  Apparently the cast on that show liked each other and had a great time doing the show.  I have seen a couple of their remembrance shows where they showed clips from the show.

Shirley, it sure doesn't sounds like nice weather for a Boy Scout camp out for your son and the boys.  I hope the Epsom salts helped your back yesterday.  I got the coupon for the 2 for $6 offer on the gryo sandwiches at Arby's but would prefer the beef.  My wife doesn't like their beef so I get her something else when I stop there if she wants me to bring something home for her.  However, I do prefer DQ to Arby's.  Glad you are happy with the fence around your pool.

JaneS, glad you had smiling customers in your lines yesterday.  I remember Jimmy Durante well and have quite a few of his recording on Spotify, which are quite good and enjoyable to listen to.  I always wondered who Mrs. Calabash was.

Gloria, I don't mind some snow as long as it melts right away which it almost always does here in the South.  I sure do remember Red Skelton, Jack Benny and the other great entertainers of that time like Bob Hope.  I always liked there humor.

Sandy, did you get to see some of the funny folks in person?  I think the only comedian I every saw in person was Robin Williams.  He did a show at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City and I took my son with me.  His show was so crude and profane that I was embarrassed but my son loved it.  I always liked him on TV as he toned things down for family viewing.  I also liked the movie Mrs. Doubtfire that he did so well.  I think laughter is a great medicine for our attitudes.

I see it has just started to rain lightly here and the golf tourney is scheduled for tee off in about 15 minutes.

The only time that I got to see
any comedians "in person" was when
they came to TV...  Usually much toned
down...  (More so then,  than now, with the
addition of cable) ....

Good morning on another cloudy, hazy, cold morning.  Not supposed to warm up today at all.  Lows in the upper 20's for tonight.  I think the "wintry mess" might be heading further south from my area.  Hopefully, a little warmer temperatures by next week.  It will be almost the middle of April by then, so hope this week end will be the end of the cold weather.

Nothing special, again,  in my little corner. Probably just another lazy day.

Just wanted to say Good morning, and hope everyone will have a nice Saturday.  Enjoy whatever the day brings.

Don, I liked Fred Allen too and his wife, Portland.  And how about Fibber Mc Gee and Molly?  I used to listen to many of those comedians already mentioned on radio and followed them to TV.  All good clean humor, would that they could come back.  Or if the networks or powers that be would rerun their programs.  The problem would be that young people of today would not understand that type of humor.  I'm glad I've been alive to appreciate it.

Today those funny remarks by Red Skelton would be panned because of "putting down' women.

Good Morning,

I thought I was back in Leadville when I opened the blinds this morning!  Light snow was falling and the ground was covered.   (Not really accurate - because, in Leadville, we would have a foot or more of the white stuff!)  Wind chill is supposed to be in the 20's today.
The pansies in the "pot garden" are on their own.   It's almost time to plant summer things so, if they freeze,  I'll just take them out and wait to put new ones in.

Larry,  I can remember pleasant dates but not specific death dates.  Best I can do without thinking hard is that my father (1970) and my husband (1993) both died the first week of January.

I remember listening to Fibber McGee & Molly on the radio and the crashing sound effects when he opened the closet door.  Also Jack Benny (plus from t.v. and his "look" when someone got the best of him).

I loved comedians like Red Skelton, Jimmy Durante, Danny Kaye and other comic actors who usually had "supporting" roles in movies.  Danny Kaye was a great dancer, too.
Never cared much for Robin Williams or Don Rickles - 'specially when I learned how vulgar they were during personal appearances.

I suspect most of these would be considered "offensive" today.   Maybe the current emphasis on certain subjects that shall remain nameless will be seen the same way....one of these days. <sigh>

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

My daughter called and said she was going to the Amish store and did I need anything or did I want to go along.  I went along and you'll never guess?  In addition to their regular rock-bottom prices, they were having a 205 off sale today.  I didn't need much so I only saved $5.11 extra but Cathy saved $16.00!  They had things like cases of Scott TP for $22. (that's a 48 roll case)  and dog treats for $1.49 (They're 4.49 at WM.  And this is before the sales discount.  I'm glad I went!

A cousin and wife just left this morning - they are from Washington and we drove them to Tombstone yesterday to visit the reenactment of the OK Corral gunfight.  Such a colorful place - such a grim time in the town's history.  the locals have a great time and dress in cowboy clothes or ladies of the night apparel.  They shoot guns (with blanks) so deafening to your ears - and act the part.  Returning here, Don was so tired from driving, that we had a light super and sat outdoors under the stars talking late into the night.

Carol that is so sad, I can't imagine what the parents are going through. Our g/son is a hockey player and I pray this never happens to him or anyone else.
Love sitting out under the stars...watch for falling stars and make a wish :)

Callie, I also don't like Jim Carrey for his potty mouth too. The older comedians could have you in tears laughing and not one bad word.

Laundry is all in ,wind blew it dry in no time and for a while I wondered if it would stay on the line.

Gloria, I was a big Red Skelton fan.... especially loved "the mean widdle kid" routine.  I'm with y'all about the potty mouth routines of comedians these days.  One year we were at a dinner put on by one of the companies my husband dealt with, Roy Clark was the entertainer.  He caught on real fast that these "Midwestern-red necks" did not approve of the language he used during his routine & changed his language fast.  Maybe it was okay when wives were not present but seems these guys are protective of family.   :o

I did a Google & came up with Bunnie's obit... will print it out since it appears she thought enough of this group to want Memorial contributions to “Seniors and Friends” .  I met she & Gene, along with Doris & Herb, and Lloyd, his son & mother, when they joined my family for lunch in Sedalia.  Later I took a pot of wisteria to her when Gene was still alive to plant for her, had a terrible time finding their house so didn't get to visit long.  Does anyone remember the photo of her with her mother?  The love in that photo melted my heart.

Carol, so sad about the hockey team.  When I was in high school a bunch of guys on the football team had a wreck with a concrete culvert, don't remember how many died but the injured ones were in such bad shape their lives were changed forever.

Every time I see the news about high school kids protesting the guns I wonder if anyone has checked how many more teens are killed by cars and drinking than by guns, maybe they should not be allowed to drive before 21 and severe punishment for drinking or drug use.  I do believe in the gun laws we have, but also believe gun factories should not be allowed to produce and sell to the public, those guns designed for military use only.  Police should have them since "the bad guys" will always find ways to get them. Okay, off my soap box~~~  I get upset that anyone listens to the teens that are just rioting to get out of school and don't have a clue what the real world is all about, much less paying their own way in life!  Zip the lip, Shirley, (every now & then she just gushes over)

I can not imagine what it
must be like to be in a classroom and have
a gunman come in and maim and kill my
friends and teachers...

When I can walk  a mile in their shoes,
then I will feel knowledgeable enough
to criticize their peaceful protests, if I
decide at that time that they are
wrong for reacting the way they
choose to.

Of course I would have to be a
survivor  of the gun mans attacks
in order to still be able to
intelligently express my opinion,
and I would be out there walking
right along side of them.

Good morning everyone..

Just peeked out and it is lightly snowing. Did we miss Spring and Summer??? Everyone you talk to wants warmer weather and no snow!! Only good thing is we do need the moisture as the lakes, creeks are down. Poor birds are really scrounging for something to eat, cleaning up the feed just as soon as you put it out for them.

A day of rest here, other than checking my button supply to get 1 inch buttons for a friend, not much else is on the agenda. She is making curtains for cat cages at the humane society and needs buttons to secure them. I have oodles of buttons here she can have!

Jane, good morning, did you get snow over night?

Better get a move on here, enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone 28° now. Oh I want spring weather, PLEASE! I think I am ready to throw away the winter jacket I wear to go outside for a walk and fresh air. More terrible news from Syria this morning.

JANE  I think we all watched Red Skelton in the movies and on TV. Glad you enjoyed those jokes of his. Would be great to have good clean jokes and movies and TV again. Jimmy Durante said that "goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are." He was good, too.

AMY  here on ME TV too late for me to stay up and watch I heard them advertise the Carol Burnett show. That and the old I Love Lucy shows were fun. Yes that was the Snozzola
- Jimmy Durante who said that good night etc.

Just heard on local news that in Vermont a man is making Vodka from Maple syrup. Said it has a faint aroma/taste of the maple.

LARRY  only 60 there? It would feel wonderful to have 60° here. Wonder how many years Jack Benny was 39, remember him always saying that was his age? The old comedians were much better than the ones today with their language. I used to like Buddy Hackett until I saw him on cable at my brother's home. The mouth and the nasty jokes to some women in the audience turned me off.

DON  I had not thought of Fred Allen in years. Back in the radio days there were so many good programs with mystery or comedy. In those days we used our imaginations to picture what was being said. Right now all I can think of for all of them is Bob Hope's theme song Thanks for the Memories.

CALLIE  Danny Kaye was always my favorite. I saw all his movies and more than once. Enjoyed his TV show and how he would sing to the little girl at the end. Never heard anyone do that double talk like him either.

JANE  looks like yesterday was a good day to stock up at the Amish store.

CAROL  that was a horrible crash yesterday with so many kids killed in that accident. So sad.

AMY  I dislike Jim Carrey and will not watch anything he is in.

SHIRLEY  I remember the picture of Bunnie and her Mom. Yes there was love in that picture and it showed. I got tears in my eyes reading her Obit. Her sister Jean had joined us for awhile here. They do need to check out those who buy guns better and no one under 21 should be able to buy them. Then they will always find a way to get them. Those guns they make for the armed services for war should not be available to anyone else except the police.

AMY  my Mom had a wicker basket full of buttons that I got. Some were very old, do not know how many years she saved all buttons. My daughter always loved  to go through them.  Before I moved here I sent the basket and all the buttons to her and you might have thought I sent her a million dollars she was so happy to get them.

Have a good day.

Gentle Whisper
(Author Unknown)

The young man had lost his job and didn't know which way to turn. So he went to see the old preacher. Pacing about the preacher's study, the young man ranted about his problem. Finally he clenched his fist and shouted, "I've begged God to say something to help me. Tell me, Preacher, why doesn't God answer?"

The old preacher, who sat across the room, spoke something in reply -- something so hushed it was indistinguishable. The young man stepped across the room. "What did you say?" he asked.

The preacher repeated himself, but again in a tone as soft as a whisper. So the young man moved closer until he was leaning on the preacher's chair.

"Sorry," he said. "I still didn't hear you."

With their heads bent together, the old preacher spoke once more. "God sometimes whispers," he said, "so we will move closer to hear Him."

This time the young man heard and he understood.

We all want God's voice to thunder through the air with the answer to our problem. But God's is the still, small voice . . . the gentle whisper. Perhaps there's a reason. Nothing draws human focus quite like a whisper. God's whisper means I must stop my ranting and move close to Him, until my head is bent together with His. And then, as I listen, I will find my answer. Better still, I find myself closer to God.

Hi Everyone. It is another overcast morning but no rain in the forecast and only a high of 63 degrees.  It should be a pleasant day on the golf course.  The Masters was not interrupted by the weather yesterday.  I think there were two or three brief periods where there was light rain but no lightning that caused an interruption of play.  Today the pay begins at 10 am so the spectators don't have to get there as early as on Thursday and Friday.  Yesterday turned out to be a very down day again for me as just had no energy.  The only thing I accomplished was a brief trip to Walmart. Pat fixed a good spaghetti with hamburger and sausage in the Instant Pot yesterday around noon and kept it warm all afternoon, which is a feature of the Instant Pot, and it with a salad made a very nice evening meal.

I plan on going to Sunday School and Church this morning and then get something to bring home for our main meal today.  I expect the attendance at both to be down as a lot of people over here leave town on Masters week.  Things should be back to normal for the new week after today.

Sandy, many years ago Pat's niece and her husband took us to one of the so called comedy clubs in Kansas City.  I didn't enjoy it at all as the comedy was so blue. We appreciated their wanting to do something for us as we visited but that was going to happen again.

Joy, I hope you missed the "wintry mess".  Our weather sure didn't turn out to be what had been predicted although at noon yesterday a bad storm cell went about 25 miles North of us.  We had very little rain here in our area.

Don, I also enjoyed Fred Allen.  Many of those old radio shows are available on the web and they are fun to hear.  I also liked Don Ameche.

Callie, I remember the months my parents passed away and that our daughter passed away but seem to have lost track of the year.  I always like Jackie Gleason.  I didn't like Don Rickles either as his "humor" was basically tearing someone else down.

Jane, sounds like you got to the Amish market on the right day.

Amy, glad your clothes didn't get blown away by the wind.

Shirley, I have always hated swearing as heard so much of it from my father as I was growing up.  I determined I wasn't going to do that in my life and don't swear.  He never did it around my mother or my sister but I would be out with him when we were working and things often didn't go well. I don't think I had ever read Bunny's obit.  Thanks for sharing it.  She was quite a lady with a wonderful spirit.

Jane, I never take offense at anyone's comments in these discussions since, as you said, we all have our own opinions.  Wouldn't it be a boring world if everyone thought alike.  God made each of us a unique person.

Gloria, I haven't heard the news this morning so don't know what happened in Syria.  I will have to check.  I don't think "I Love Lucy" and the "Andy Griffith" show will ever really go out of style.  Unfortunately, we don't get the Me TV channel with Dish although do get a few of the older shows.  I do remember Jack Benny always being 39 and also the sounds of Rochester and the old Maxwell.  I also remember the trips down in the basement to the vault as Jack was suppose to be such a penny pincher.  One reason I like reading so much is that it causes us to use your imagination to picture what is being described.

I remember Don Ameche and (I think) Frances Langford as the Bickersons.  I thought they had a funny skit.  With so many comedians, there almost always was a program on the radio.  My mother used to listen to a few soaps and they were only 15 minutes long.  We also listened to One Man's Family.  There were other similar programs, but that is the one we listened to.  One of my favorite programs was Showboat that was a weekly program.  Lanny Ross was a singer and he was a favorite of mine.  Captain Andy was one of the characters and I don't remember the name of the woman singer but she and Lanny Ross often sang duets.  Ah, nostalgia!

Gloria, I am so tired of wearing my winter coat that last week when it was on the cool side, I wore my "transition" coat.  Fortunately I was not outside long at any time.

Making vodka from maple syrup?  What a waste of maple syrup (my opinion only).

So far, no one has mentioned George Burns and Gracie Allen.  Remember at the end of the show they always did a bit where they commented on something or other and at the end of it George would say, "That's enough!  Say Good night Gracie!"  And she'd say, "Good night Gracie".  Then they would turn and walk off and she could be heard saying "Why did I have to say that!  He mumbled something you couldn't hear and they disappeared into the background.

I've been to church and now I'm home for the day.  I'll be making more dog food for the freezer and then later, my son will be around to pick me up after I drop my car off for service.

The sun is shining here but it's still cold.  Enjoy your day!

Jane, I forgot about George and Gracie and I liked them very much.  There may be other comedians and/or couples I haven't thought of in years.  One thing, we did not have as many distractions in our lives so an evening of comedies was not unusual.

My evenings these days have Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, rarely anything else.

Good Morning from the
rocky coast of Maine.

Personally,  I do not care for foul speaking
comedy.    And I avoid it when ever possible.

But foul speaking comedy,  IMHO,  does
not have to contain swear words or using
religious symbols names in vain.

Comedy aimed a racism and bigotry is just
as foul to me,  and I also do not
participate in that,  either.

In other words to me there is more to
foul speaking comedy then just dirty words.

Regarding making vodka from
Maple Syrup???

UGH...  What a way (imho) to spoil
the Maple Syrup and the Vodka!!!!

I always liked my Vodka on the Rocks
with a splash of H2O...  And lots of it!

Flavored Vodka turns my stomach!

Plus I stopped drinking Alcohol over
15 years  ago,  so I don't have the
luxury of "Vodka Tasting" ...  (Giggle)

Yes,  I do agree...
I try not to speak politically any longer..
and will not again...  But sometimes
I just have to pass my opinion as do
many of us.     :uglystupid2:

I am looking forward to watching Golf this
afternoon...   It was GREAT yesterday...

I use to only like a few golfers but have
found that now I like different ones at
different times.     And enjoy finding new
ones to pay attention to.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

Cousin and wife left yesterday - Don was so tired from driving to Tombstone, walking around and watching the shoot-out at the OK Corral, looking at the graves in Boot Hill, etc.  Usually, I spell him half the time - as we do driving home in three weeks. We have been watching the stars at night and looking for the UFO that was spotted by two pilots a while ago.  :)

I cannot understand watching new movies with all the terrible curse words - it seems the writers force their way of communication on everyone.  Such a waste of talent.  We just turn them off.

Back in here - our daughter called on the phone and one son called over the computer at the same time, so we were both chatting away.

Hi Everyone.  We had some light rain here this morning and only a high in the upper 50's is predicted.  I just got back from making quick trip downtown to the UPS store as forgot to send off the phone I am returning to Amazon.  I then went on down to the city hall and paid our city taxes.  Other than that expect to stay home all day and take it easy. I do plan on helping Pat's sister with her new laptop later this morning.

Mary Ann, I remember my mother listening to the soap operas on the radio as she did her ironing.  She usually was too busy with other things to have time to listen.  I am sort of like you in watching Wheel and Jeopardy and then we often turn the TV off.

Jane, I don't know how we could have forgotten George Burns and Gracie Allen as they were a classic and George Burns lived to be 100 or more and continued a career after Gracie died. Sorry to hear of the new health concerns for your brother.

Sandy, I agree with you as to comedy involving racism and bigotry.  There sure are a lot of very good young golfers that have come out of the golf programs in the colleges. This area really gets into the spirit of the Masters.  That was a good tournament and fortunately the weather basically cooperated.

Carol, I don't think I would really want to see a UFO.  :)  I really seldom watch a movie anymore as would rather listen to music or read a book.

Lloyd, Pat's sister sent a picture from outside her apartment yesterday showing all of the snow on the ground and on trees.  It is time for Spring to hit your area.  Maybe this will be the last week of this bad weather for you all.  You can't beat a free meal. Having a new born calf is always so nice and they are so cute to see.

June, please don't be hard on yourself.  Complain away here as you need to.  We can all say a little prayer for you that you soon feel better.

deAngel, hope you don't get too much snow today.

Amy, those hearing aids seem to be quite delicate items.  I have a good friend who wears them and it seems he always is having to take them in for repairs or replacements.  I still have very good hearing and so far, while Pat's hearing isn't great, she still doesn't need the aids and I dread such a time as when she may need them as she won't be a happy camper when they don't work correctly or the batteries need to be replaced.

Good morning everyone, 25° at 8:30am. Is this really April or is it February? Might even have some snow flurries mid week according to the darn forecaster. At least the sun is shining and no rain today.

LARRY  on the ME channel an older Andy Griffith in Matlock in the morning and the young Andy the sheriff in the evening. Like you I like him in both. I am a slow reader because I always picture what is being described. I wonder how much t he youngsters use their imaginations now with everything right there in front of them to see. Wasn't it Don Ameche who played the role of Alexander G. Bell who invented the telephone? Loved him in his later years in the movie direct ed by Ronnie Howard I think the name was Cacoon.

MARY ANN  Lanny Ross was my sister's favorite especially his Whispering. My Mom listened to One Man's Family, years later it was on TV in the afternoon and I watched it till one Monday I turned it on and they had a different show on. That did it, never watched a soap opera again. Still wearing winter coats here.

JANE  there were so many great comedians years ago and they were clean spoken - at least in public. Sorry to read about y our Brother back in the hospital. Prayers for him and the family.

LLOYD  sun bright here but still below freezing.

JUNE  pain is something we have to learn to deal with as we age. I don't like it but live with it.

GLORIA de  cold and sunny but no snow in forecast today.

Nothing but interruptions this morning. CNA is now here and the nurse from the company that she works for just called and is on her way.
Have a good day.

We are missing Jane..hope she is ok.

The trip to the  city was much nicer than the one last Mon!! First a fox, nice healthy one in no hurry crossed in front of us. Then we saw a flock of turkeys sitting on the ice!

The hearing aid has been sent off to be looked at and will get a phone call when it is ready..so hubby is only half hearing lol.

Managed to stop at Fabricland  for a sale on flannel 1.79 a meter!! This is an anniversary sale and each day they have another special item. Coats and Clark thread was .39 cents a spool.

Came home and filled the wood box and got another load to go in, we are to have snow/rain for the next few days.

June, resting will help heal your sore back..

AMY as I have said before I am a vet. they furnish my hearing aids. when every thing works like it is supposed to, I have a device Paired with my cell phone.
it takes my phone call's  directly into my hearing aids. so I can take calls hand's
free. but I tell folks that and they just a little better than nothing at all.
Nancy says I have selective hearing. i do not think so,but the way acoustics are
in our house some times i can here some things better in the kitchen behind me
clearer than in front of me.  Kay sarow sarow what ever will be will be. Have a great day rest of.

Good morning everyone. 32° and gray sky. Well we did have a sunny day yesterday what more do I want? More sun and spring temperatures is what I would like about this time of year, is that really asking too much?. Still wearing winter jackets around here.  Must be "global warming" keeping this cold around so long?

LARRY  I enjoy both Andy Griffith's series, young and older.

GLORIA de  I think most of us have a drawer that collects every thing but then we can never find what we need in it.

JUNE   like you my back feels good when I am laying down so have to make myself move.

AMY  been a long time since thread was .39¢, hope you stocked up on it.

LLOYD  many people have selective hearing, there are a few in this building. They hear something and repeat it completely different from what was said.

JANE  prayers for JIM. Pacemakers have helped many people With God's help the surgeons will help him. About now he must be in surgery.

JENNY  hope you are feeling better today.

PHYLLIS  most here are complaining about this cold weather. It was warmer in February this year than it is now. Guess that was our spring for this year.

Sometimes I feel...
Bob Perks

Sometimes I feel that the world is too much.  God reminds me that I am a part of His world and He has much to offer.

Sometimes I feel, that as hard as I try I am nowhere near where I wanted to be at this point in my life.  God reminds me that the journey may be long but it will be worth it and I am right where He wants me to be.

Sometimes I feel that there is too much for me to do.  God reminds me that I am not doing it alone.  Take each step wisely and put things in perspective.

Sometimes I feel that there are too many mountains to climb.  God reminds me that He made the mountains so that when we reach the top we are closer to Heaven, we can see where we've been and the beauty of where we are going.

Sometimes I feel that when I am excited about life no one else around me is.  God reminds me that is why He placed me there to bring excitement to those whose lives are weary.

Sometimes I feel like God doesn't hear me.  God reminds me that He does indeed listen and respond.  It is I who blocks out His Voice when I don't like what He is saying.

Sometimes I feel that no one understands me.  God reminds me that He understands and that's all that matters.

Sometimes I feel that the world is closing in on me.  God reminds me that he is there even in the smallest spaces.

Sometimes I feel I am failing,  God reminds me with Him I cannot fail.  Delays and denials are not failures.  There are more choices, better ways to get me to where He wants me to be.

Sometimes I feel at peace.  God reminds me:

Galatians 6:16
New Life Version (NLV)
16 Those who follow this way will have God's peace and loving-kindness. They are the people of God.

Hi Everyone. The forecast is for it to be cloudy all day long with only a 20% chance of some showers during the next couple of hours.  Pat and I are going to go out to eat our main meal at lunch time.  She needs to get out of the house for awhile as hasn't been out for several days. I woke up early this morning so just went ahead and had my shower and got dressed and started my day.  Pat also got up early, which is unusual but said she had come to bed earlier last night than usual.

I was able to work on my SIL's laptop yesterday with the TeamViewer app.  I hope to be able to spend an hour or so with her today as set up Chrome as the browser she would use and unpinned the Internet Explorer and Edge browsers from the task bar so it is less confusing for her.  She is really at the very beginning of knowing how to use a computer so it is quite a task from long distance.  Being able to see the mouse on her computer and take control to point it to the proper place is a big help in instruction.  Other than going out at lunch time I expect to have a quiet and restful day.

deAngel, if you clean out that Fibber McGee kitchen drawer you won't be able to find anything?  :) At least that is usually my experience when I do such jobs.

June, stay as comfortable as you can while your body heals.  Glad you had a beautiful day yesterday and hope today is the same out your way.

Carol, it should be hot in Tucson at this time of the year shouldn't it?  I remember the hot days and cool evening in Apache Junction, Arizona when I visited my folks usually in February.

Amy, half hearing is better than no hearing.  Has your husband had to wear hearing aids a long time?  It seems that on most of your trips to the city you see some interesting wild life.  About the only wild life I see around here are the birds.  It sounds like you got some good bargains at the fabric store.

Lloyd, I think my wife also has selective hearing.  As her hearing worsens she seem to talk quieter and I often have to ask her to repeat what she is saying.  Of course she does the same to me.  I am not aware of having any hearing loss so don't think it is my hearing that is at issue.

Jane, your brother getting a pacemaker is a really good thing and should help him feel better as it paces the heart.   Anytime an older person has to have anesthetic can be dangerous but don't think they have to give very much and the recovery is pretty easy.

Amy, your friend must have gotten the pacemaker pretty young to be on her 5th one at only 76 years old.  I will have to have the third one put in a couple of years from now, which is apparently a simple procedure if the wires into the heart are still functioning correctly as they just make a small slit in the area near the arm socket and detach the old one and put in the new one. Are those dust bunnies on the move again?  :)

Jenny, it sounds like you need to see the doctor.  Do your still have your gallbladder? Your description of your pain and discomfort brings back some unpleasant memories before I had my gallbladder removed.  Glad you could be there for your dad's birthday.  Hope you are feeling better soon.

Phyllis, I wonder if we won't be going directly into summer type weather soon?  We expect to get up to 70 today so should be nice.

Gloria, that is a good reading from Bob Perks that you shared.

Good afternoon, just back from grocery shopping. It was raining when we went out. Now the sun is trying to shine, I think I will recognize it!!!?

Gloria, I did not stay up to see if it snowed last night :D

Jenny, so happy you got to be with your Dad for his birthday. Hope you are feeling better for you trip home.  I forgot to tell you congratulation to you son Mark. I realize how wonderful that appointment is. As I was a golfer. Not being able to play now, is upsetting to me,

Amy the only wild life I see is rabbits, squirrels and of course chip monks
,after the weather warms up Glenwood Charlie (ground hog) will be eating the cats food on the porch.  People leave cats off here in the park, that they have had fixed. I guess they think they will be safe. Before they put a fence up we use to see deer.

June, glad you are taking it easy. Last summer when I feell on the porch, I got a hair line crack on my hip, which took about 6 months to get better.

Roley, good to see you posting

Another beautiful day in Stanton. I just came back for a nice long walk Still having a miserable time with this pain. If they don't get my meds delvired today, I am going to spend the night in the  clinic groaning .

I have been eating at home for so long, I am going down for catfish and a baked potato and salad tonight

Gloria de, I have been given no diagnosis as to my problem. The pain feels more like a deep ache in my muscles, or in the kidneys or related organs. I should ask more questions.

Roley, I am sorry to hear you have this hic cup...they can be a miserable occurrence. I am praying the Lord chases all others far away.

Time to go eat. Back later. June

Hello Everyone!  Just a quick one to let you know all the prayers were answered.  Jim's surgery went well and he's recovering as the dr's wish.  My daughter and granddaughter have gone home and I'm exhausted.

My electricity has gone off again in the living room and I've got wires running all over so I can have my TV and lights.  I can't get it fixed until Thursday.  I discovered what caused it though.  I moved the sofa and the outlet behind it is brown.  I guess I'm lucky I didn't have a fire.

Now I'm off to bed.  Good night, sweet dreams and happy tomorrow.

JANE, so happy to read that our prayers are answered and everything went well for Jim.  I continue to pray for Jim’s complete recovery.

LARRY, I do still have my gallbladder.  That is what Diane thinks my problem is.  I am not so sure.

Thank you for the caring thought that many of you posted today.  I do hope to get this checked out when I get home.

We leave tomorrow afternoon and it is going to be very hard to tell my Daddy goodbye.  It has been wonderful to be here with him.  😭

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

I can't get on email on my computer so I'm on the iPad. Yesterday I couldn't get email on the I pad. It's always something. I told my daughter I felt like chucking all the technical stuff and going back to hollering out the window. She said that she might not hear me in Texas unless I hollered REALLY loud. Such is life!

Gotta get ready for work. Enjoy your day!

Good morning everyone, sun is shining bright and beautiful but still only 25°.  Cars have a layer of frost on them. Local weather gal just said on Saturday it will be 69° and on Sunday back in the mid 40's. That's the weather for today, will wait and see if that is what they say later.

LARRY  I remember when I first started on the PC the trouble I had getting the mouse where I wanted it to go. Moved it too fast. Glad you liked that Bob Perks. Joan found so many wonderful writings for us all those years.

ROLEY/PETER  I know I need a good dose of sunshine along with warmer temperatures so those winter jackets can be put away for a few months.

AMY  I had many different color spools when my sewing machine died and along with other sewing things I gave them all to my daughter. Cannot even thread a needle anymore much less sew anything. I can imagine all the thread you use on a quilt with all the different pieces.

GLORIA de  think I would get lost if I went into a market. Been at least 2 years since I went shopping.

JUNE  I know how you feel with that back pain, feels like I have had my back pain all my life since it started before I retired.

JANE  thank God you did not have a fire with  that outlet. Glad to read Jim is doing good.

JENNY  safe trip home and get to your doctor ASAP.

CNA will be here early today so better get moving, have a great day.

A Very Special Bank Account

Imagine that you had a bank account that deposited $86,400 each morning. The account carries over no balance from day to day, does not allow you to keep a cash balance, and every evening cancels whatever you failed to spend during the day. What would you do? Draw out every single dollar each day?
We all actually have such a bank. Its name is Time. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night, it writes off, as lost, whatever time that you failed to use wisely. It carries over no balance from day to day. It allows no overdraft so you cannot borrow against yourself or use more time than you have. Each day, the account starts anew. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, it’s your loss and you cannot get it back.
Time management is yours to decide how you spend your time, just as with money you decide how you spend it. It’s never the case of us not having enough time to do things, but the case of whether we want to do them and where they fall in our priorities.

Hi Everyone.  It is suppose to be a beautiful day here in South Carolina.  While it is 41 degrees to begin the day it is suppose to get up into the low 70's this afternoon.  This morning we plan on making a trip to Costco although Pat may decide to attend her crafts group at Church while Scott and I go to Costco.  Then this evening we have dinner at the Church and the kids will be come out to the house for a little while.  Yesterday we invited Jennifer and Elizabeth to go to lunch with us, which they did.  That was the big activity for the day.

roley, good to see your posting and hope sunshine soon comes your way as a person just feels better when the sun is out.  Take care and join us again soon.

Amy, too bad you were limited on the number of spools of thread you were allowed to buy at the reduced price but can see the logic of the limitation.  Hope that snow stayed away yesterday.  We live only about 10 minutes away from where Pat and I get our hair cut as it is one of the shops over in the shopping center where Walmart is located.

June, I hope the social aspect of eating in your dining room helped you feel a little better.  Glad you were able to have a nice long walk.

Jane, were you at the hospital for Jim's procedure.  Glad he came through the procedure well and hope he starts feeling better immediately. The only problem I had when the first pacemaker was put in was the nurse told me I needed to keep my arm in a sling for 5 days.  I did this and my shoulder began to lock up from non-use.  When I went back to the doctor for the follow up I was told that wasn't necessary.  I think the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and I was left holding the bag, so to speak.  You are lucky that you didn't have a fire. I computer and iPads are great until they don't want to work properly.  Yesterday the screen on the laptop that my SIL has just went to black and white and I had never seen this before.  I did a quick Google search and found out the reason and the easy fix as it had to do with a combination of keys that restored the color.

Jenny, before I had my gallbladder diagnosed as the problem I would have terrible back pains and eating brought on the pain or it came on late at night.  They tested everything but the gallbladder and finally tested that an found the problem.  As soon as it was out the problems stopped and I am able to eat anything without it causing a problem.  I hope you have a pleasant flight back to Denver today.

Gloria, I have to chuckle as it seems you and I post about the same time and usually when I click the post button I see that you have submitted your posting.  I am sure glad you saved the material Joan had found for us so we can benefit from it again as the old becomes the new.  It sounds like your weather is a yo-yo.  Controlling a mouse is often a problem experienced in the initial computer classes or by people teaching themselves.

Jenny:  It was 100 yesterday in Phoenix - here, in Tucson the place is higher altitude but it has been setting records this year as well.  I am wondering if you have Acid Reflux? Take care.

Amy:  So, you vehicle automatically slows (we can only hope) and makes a turn whenever close to the fabric shop?  It can't be your fault - the engine has taken over your life.   ;)

Jane:  A brand new baby today?  How fun - prayers for Jim as well.

Gloria:  Thank you for posting Galatians message.

Larry:  This is hot and dry for this Seattle girl.

Roley:  Glad you came in and let us know what is happening.

Have a great day all - I had a haircut yesterday and baked scones plus got to a genealogy class that was actually interesting.

Good afternoon everyone, Gloria we are 2degrees warmer then you. Suppose to be Spring like the rest of the week. I would like to get to Home Depot and get some flowers for my big pots outside. We are suppose to have a big new super market open across the main highway from us.  Stop and Shop need some competition,  It is always so crowded. Parking is bad.

Jane, glad to read everything went well for Jim.  While I was in the hospital the last time two doctors said I should get a pacemaker.  My cardiologist said with my problem it would not help.  They wanted to have a lot of other things done, but I refused,  I am like June, at my age I want nothing invasive done.  One doctor agreed with me.  The dye they would have to use would most likely mess up mybad kidneys and I would have to go on diologist.  That I do no need

Larrry, I am still getting use to a smaller PC  The games I like to play, are to old for this computer. so at night I am back playing on my old one.

finally found my way back to the computer.
The only thing that kept me busy was Bible Study this morning, then a bunch of naps. Just couldn't get my motor started today. I guess I looked sort of puny as Gary insisted on walking me back home from Chapel. Did a bunch of napping..had lunch at home.Took  long walk this after noon. Visited the clinic and got my meds straightened out....finally ! So maybe i'll get less pain now.

I didn't go down for supper last night, so  missed out on my cat fish. It will be left-overs tonight. Idon;t have any appetite anyway.

Time to go figure out the medical information got today before  I forget it all. Hope to see you all later, June

Good morning everyone.

Looks like we had rain or melting snow during the night as the patio stones are wet this morning. Not sue what is happening today, I managed to finish off another cat quilt, so on to the next.

Carol, what can I say? That vehicle has a mind of ..umm our own :) I managed to pick up panels that will make fantastic kids quilts at a great price!

June, napping helps, your body is at ease and not in any stress..

Larry, sounds like a fun evening you had planned . How was dinner?

Gloria, I have lots of thread and people are giving me thread they don't want or can't use in their machine. When I empty the spools, I then give them to another friend that makes cat toys out of them. Not much gets wasted.

Jane, hope all is well there.

Gloria de, please send Spring this way. Sat we are to have a dandy snow storm...wonder when Spring will get here to stay.

Enjoy your day everyone.

I took a day out yesterday.  Went to the library and bank, made the mistake of stopping at a new German bakery downtown.  I bought some multi-grain bread and couldn't resist some Peach/Blackberry Kuchen.  It was delicious.  Had a late lunch at one of our favorite restaurants and came home tired.

I am having to live in the past.  David tried to start the dishwasher last night and it is just dead.  Checked the circuit breaker and it seems fine so I guess I'll have to try to find a reliable appliance repairman and that isn't always easy.  I unloaded the full dishwasher and washed everything by hand.  I was remembering the old days before I ever owned a dishwasher.  I really don't mind washing dishes but I don't like to dry them so David took over that job.  So now another house problem to deal with....I'm getting a little tired of all this "excitement".   ::)

Cloudy here this morning but a few degrees warmer so perhaps Spring is arriving after all.  Fingers crossed!  Of course, along about August I'll be wishing for Fall.  Never satisfied.... ;)

Take care, Everyone.

Good morning.  Supposed to be a nice day today with the temperature going up to almost 80º.  Then rain and cooler over the week end.  Mother Nature sure can't make up her mind this year.

Jane, happy that your brother got along well with his recent surgery.  Hope he will continue to do well.

I wanted to say Hi ! this morning, before Amy comes looking for me.   LOL

I was up before 6 a.m. as I needed to take some mail down to the mailbox to go out today.  Never know what time the mailman will get here.  Also, needed some stamps and was surprised to see where stamps were 50 cents now.  I hadn't bought any since before Christmas. I can leave a note with a check in my mail box for him to pick up.  Will get them back tomorrow.    I still prefer to mail my bills instead of paying them on-line.  I just don't like to put my bank account number on-line.

Phyllis, your multi-grain bread and the fruit Kuchen sound delicious.   I would be frequently visiting the new German bakery.   I like all the different grain breads.  Glad you got to one of your favorite restaurants.

Tomorrow, Friday, my son and DIL and I are going to a favorite restaurant of ours.  We will celebrate my DIL's birthday, which was last week.  This place is on a big farm and is run by the 2nd or 3rd generation of the family that started it way back when.  You pick out your entrée and everything else is served family style.  Everything is home made.  On Fridays, they have a seafood special where you get 2 entrees for the price of one.  I plan on getting the fried oysters and I think, the broiled scallops.  My son and DIL always get their crab cakes and fried shrimp.   They are good, but it is more like an Imperial crab rather than an actual "cake".  Just a pile of crab meat.  They are their best seller.  But, the fried oysters won't be around after this month, so since I haven't had any for a while, they sound good to me. I think you get 6 and they are big.

Since I have been up a while, I need to get something to eat.

I hope everyone will have a wonderful day.

Joy

Good Morning Everyfriend!

AMY we had a bit of "wet stuff" overnight too but I'm pretty sure t was rain.  The temps didn't get under 35 overnight.

Phyllis, I know a VERY reliable appliance repair man.  And he has a couple of reliable guys working for him.  They can pretty much fix anything that needs fixing.  And if it's had it, they can give you a good price on a new one and install it and care for it over the years.  Unfortunately, in your case, I'm pretty sure he'd need to charge mileage and that might run the price up.  In case you don't get it, this guy is my son.  He has a sales and repair business here in town.

Today is trash day in the morning and then I get Kiran in the afternoon.  She called me last night to ask if we can go to the library after school.  I LOVE IT!

Sorry I haven't been regular.  I truly meant to stop by last night but I had a text from my sister and I just felt like she needed to talk so I called her.  She did need to talk and we were on the phone an hour and 15 minutes.  My brother is home and the pacemaker seems to be doing it thing.  She says his color is better and he actually feels like moving around.  Hallelujah and thanks for the prayers.  Now if that baby would just get here!  As of today, she's late!

I'm of to feed the doggies, clean up the yard and get rid of the trash.  Enjoy your morning, whatever it brings!

P.S.  HI JOY!

Good morning everyone 30° but sun is shining. Something weird when I turned on the PC. Had a, IE blue page and all icons on desktop gone.  I shut down and wondered what happened.  Waited and started again and things are the way I am use to. This computer will drive me crazy yet.

LARRY  you are so right about these machines are great when they work right. This morning the way this one started could not email my grandson and too early to call him and I hate doing that because he is always working and that he has to do. One of the downfalls of working from home and being on salary. I know I had trouble with the mouse when I started. Now I think I know how to use it.

CAROL  my daughter has to go to Phoenix today, 2½ hour drive. Will be a long day for them.

GLORIA de  the closest I get to a market these days is ordering online. I will get a delivery this afternoon. Still not the same as really seeing what   I am buying.

JUNE  like you I have no appetite except for breakfast.

AMY  from what I just heard we have more rain coming late today then again late Sunday and Monday. It will be raining for the Boston Marathon.

PHYLLIS  never had a dish washer but now I wash the dishes and rinse in hot water and let dry in the drainer. I use the same ones all the time so why put them away? Lazy in my old age?

JOY  I am like you, I do not want online banking. I don't have much and need all of what I have. Those hackers could care less.

JANE  there was frost on the cars here when I first looked out. LOL with what you said to Phyllis. Like when you were looking for a handyman for some jobs you needed done. I know a good one but the traveling was a bit much. Yes it is my son. Talking to your sister was more important than being here.

Goodness just looked at the time, better go get dressed for the day. Have a great day everyone.

A POEM THAT WAS US

A little house with two bedrooms,
One bathroom and one car on the street
A mower that you had to push
To make the grass look neat.

In the kitchen on the wall
We only had one phone,
And no need for recording things,
Someone was always home.

We only had a living room
Where we would congregate,
Unless it was at mealtime
In the kitchen where we ate.

We had no need for family rooms
Or extra rooms to dine.
When meeting as a family
Those two rooms would work out fine.

We only had one TV set
And channels maybe two,
But always there was one of them
With something worth the view

For snacks we had potato chips
That tasted like a chip.
And if you wanted flavor
There was Lipton's onion dip.

Store-bought snacks were rare because
My mother liked to cook
And nothing can compare to snacks
In Betty Crocker's book

Weekends were for family trips
Or staying home to play
We all did things together â€"
Even go to church to pray.

When we did our weekend trips
Depending on the weather,
No one stayed at home because
We liked to be together.

Sometimes we would separate
To do things on our own,
But we knew where the others were
Without our own cell phone

Then there were the movies
With your favorite movie star,
And nothing can compare
To watching movies in your car

Then there were the picnics
at the peak of summer season,
Pack a lunch and find some trees
And never need a reason.

Get a baseball game together
With all the friends you know,
Have real action playing ball â€"
And no game video.

Remember when the doctor
Used to be the family friend,
And didn't need insurance
Or a lawyer to defend.

The way that he took care of you
Or what he had to do,
Because he took an oath and strived
To do the best for you.

Remember going to the store
And shopping casually,
And when you went to pay for it
You used your own money?

Nothing that you had to swipe
Or punch in some amount,
And remember when the cashier person
Had to really count?

The milkman used to go
From door to door,
And it was just a few cents more
Than going to the store.

There was a time when mailed letters
Came right to your door,
Without a lot of junk mail ads
Sent out by every store .

The mailman knew each house by name
And knew where it was sent;
There were not loads of mail addressed
To "present occupant”

There was a time when just one glance
Was all that it would take,
And you would know the kind of car,
The model and the make

They didn't look like turtles
Trying to squeeze out every mile;
They were streamlined, white walls, fins
And really had some style

One time the music that you played
Whenever you would jive,
Was from a vinyl, big-holed record
Called a forty-five

The record player had a post
To keep them all in line
And then the records would drop down
And play one at a time.

Oh sure, we had our problems then,
Just like we do today
And always we were striving,
Trying for a better way.

Oh, the simple life we lived
Still seems like so much fun,
How can you explain a game,
Just kick the can and run?

And why would boys put baseball cards
Between bicycle spokes
And for a nickel, red machines
Had little bottled Cokes?

This life seemed so much easier
Slower in some ways
I love the new technology
But I sure do miss those days.

So time moves on and so do we
And nothing stays the same,
But I sure love to reminisce
And walk down memory lane.

With all today's technology
We grant that it's a plus!
But it's fun to look way back and say,
HEY LOOK, GUYS, THAT WAS US!

"Good friends are like quilts-they age with you, yet never lose
their warmth."How about a little trip down memory lane today.  A friend sent this to me yesterday and it brought back a lot of memories:

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting another very nice day as was yesterday with a high in the upper 70's.  I plan on going to coffee this morning and then taking the rest of the day to rest.

Yesterday Scott joined Pat and I as we made the trip to Costco.  We got there right after they opened and there were still two riding carts available so both Pat and I could use one.  I have annotated on my grocery list, that I keep on my Google App called Keep, the location of the food items on the shelves and coolers for the things we generally buy.  This makes grocery shopping much quicker and I know what aisle to go to for the items I want.  When we got home Scott unloaded the car.  Last evening after a good dinner at the Church we picked up the Walmart grocery order and he also helped unload it as he and Elizabeth came out to spend a couple of hours with us.  Needless to say we are going to eat well for quite awhile and should only need to get some eggs and a fresh produce for quite awhile.  Jennifer is down with a cold and didn't come out.

Carol, glad you enjoyed the genealogy class this week as know you have not enjoyed some in the past.

deAngel, hope there will be a street light at the crossing form you home park into the new super market.  It is one of the consequences of getting newer computers that a lot of the older programs no longer work on them.  Fortunately, several of the games Pat likes to play are still working with Windows 10.  There are several from years ago she can no longer play.

June, glad Gary wanted to be sure you got back to your apartment safely.  He loves you and is concerned about you.  Glad you now have your medications straightened out.

Amy, you certainly are productive with your quilt making.  Our dinner was good.  The cook had made chicken and rice mixed up together and then we had a corn and lima bean mixture, a nice salad and a little slice of key lime pie that ever so good.  I actually ate that first and had to restrain myself from going back to the dessert table for a second piece since there were quite a few slices left.  I can remember as a child liking to play with empty spools.  My grandmother sewed a lot so she usually had some with with we could play.

Phyllis, it sounds like you had a nice day out yesterday and came home with some real goodies to eat. I have never heard of Kuchen so looked it up and it sounds good.  I often hand wash and dry some of our dishes even though we have the dishwasher.  We have a few things that are dishwasher safe or are large and take up too much room.  However, I don't like to leave them to dry so will aways dry them as well and put them away.  I washed and dried many dishes as I was growing up.  My sister and I would have to take turns of who washed and who dried and put away.  Hope you can find a good repairman.

Joy, your day sounds a lot like what we expect.  I am now paying a lot of our bills using our credit card.  We get a little rebate on each dollar charged and I always pay off the monthly balance so don't have any interest charges. Several that have set monthly payments I set up to automatically charge to the credit card.  We have 90 days to protest any charge that isn't ours or correct.  I find it works very well.  That sounds like a delightful restaurant you will be visiting tomorrow.  I haven't been to a place that served things family style for a long time.

Jane, great that Kiran loves to go to the library.  Those frequent trips to the library that you made with Kiran when she was younger are paying off.  My dad read a lot when he had the time and I think I got my love of reading from him and from my grandmother, who also loved to read.  Pat also likes to read.  For several years I have kept a list by author of the books I have read or listened to and am surprised when I look at it to see how many it it.  I am about to finish an ebook and just started another audio book. I am not surprised to read that the pacemaker is helpful to Jim.

Gloria, the problem you experienced is not unique to your computer as Pat and I have also experienced it at times.  There have been several times I have needed to restart my computer more than once to get it back to where it should be. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane today with the "Poem That Was Us".

Just checking in on everyone this mild morning. We sat outdoors looking at stars last night - we tend to do that a lot. The satellite would have been visible but I didn't catch the time.

I like the quote about an old quilt.  My very last large quilt is ready for binding - (AMY knows that is the edge) so I am bringing it home because there is a table big enough to hold the fabric.

Gloria:  A long drive in this heat!  We met a record this week - not fun.  We had a little house with three babies in it for a while - somehow, it worked and I even had a sewing machine although no time to sew.  Sewed on the kitchen table at night.

Joy:  enjoy your feast!

June:  Can someone bring a plate to you if you feel too tired to make the trip?  Blessings to you.

Hello there all my friends!  I've had a busy day!  I finished all the chores that I had assigned to myself for today and even had a little time to spend with Kiran after we got home from the library.

Now the doggies are telling me it's time for supper so I better go take care of that little chore and in the meantime, I think I'll feed myself too.  There's of the Monday's casserole left and it turned out pretty good.  It sure did make a lot, though.  It's called Cajun Cabbage Bake. Had cabbage (of course) cheese, ground beef, chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce and lots of spices.  This one, I'll make again, for sure!

Later friends.  Enjoy your evening.

God evening, ALMOST FELT LIKE SPRING

Gloria, That poem, sure did sound like us. We had a Hudson, big car.  We
Dennis and Mark were little, one of our pleasures was the drive inn. Mark was in a bassinet, Dennis would play in the play ground until the movie started. Intermission was always the mad rush for food.  Although I generally bought our own.  But we were all together  By the way, out TV was a 7 inch .Motoroler

CArol, I have heard on the radio about the heat out West.

Good morning everyone

Boy did we get rain yesterday easy at times then a heavy down pour. Managed to get the dust bunnies corralled, then washed all the floors. Filled the wood box, got another load ready to go and kindling in too. We went in town and stocked up on dog food, plus some fruit.
Also delivered a quilt, I must say that is the highlight in doing this quilting, even got a hug from the person!!  Came home and started cutting another quilt out. Lots of little pieces with this one but a fun one to do.

Today is go for hubby's blister packs, have coffee /tea out and home before the nasty weather starts.

Jane, hope all is well with the new baby. Lots of cuddling now!!

Lloyd, please send that warm weather here please  27° F here this morning.

Carol, that is one of the parts I really do like in quilting, sitting hand sewing the binding on. I find it so relaxing.

Larry, you gave me a chuckle when you said you ate desert first. Just like the saying. Life is uncertain so eat dessert first!  ;D

Gloria, loved the poem and I did send it on to others. One comment I received back was,It sounds like you were there with me when I was growing up. Thank you for sharing.

Hope we soon hear from Jenny..

Joy, enjoy your meal out with your family. Sounds like perfect food with fantastic company.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone WOW  51° now at 7:15am. warmest morning since last autumn Just might spend time outside this afternoon. Leave the winter jacket in the closet hooray! The forecaster is smiling with the temperatures being warm at last.

LARRY  I got my grocery order yesterday a little after my CNA left. Still have some things to put away. I do not order fresh produce that way, I rather ask my son to get some when he comes up every week. He is fussy like me picking it out. First time I used this service I ordered some lunch meat, sliced thin but it was not thin so never that ordered again. What happened yesterday morning on this PC was a first for me.  All I could think of was starting over and having to install everything again. Don't think I could handle that anymore.

CAROL  no Skype with my daughter yesterday so don't know how they made out on their trip to Phoenix.  I know they would both be tired when they got home. Glad they have a good AC in their Jeep. I have a niece who is into family history. She found some very interesting things about my Dad and his family and my Mom's family, too.

JANE  your casserole sounds yummy.

GLORIA DE  like you we went to the drive in every Friday night. I would bring drinks and snacks especially for my 3. Our first TV was a second hand 9 inch one. At least we had that for after my 3 were in bed at night. We would pull out chairs up close to it so we could see the screen better.

LLOYD  winter to summer is what we were talking about yesterday. One day it is winter coats and the next we want the AC working.

JANE  hope you woke being a great grandma.

AMY  it is thanks to Joan for posting that poem years ago. I did save a lot of what she posted.

The witch will be here this morning to inspect my apartment. Wonder what she will find fault with. My CNA yesterday looked all around at my request to see if anything was out of place. Cannot do more than I am able to.

Live in Peace
(By Joni Ames)
[

I've cried to God as I've beheld
The world wrapped up in fear
Of lack and death and war that looms
To snatch lives held so dear

I said, "My God! - Have you not heard
The newsmen on TV?!
Do you not know the shape we're in?!
Do you not care for me?!"

"I'm scared, Dear Jesus! - Help us! - Please!
There's news of fear and war
And I'm afraid, Lord - I admit! -
Of what might be in store."

"Peace, be still, My child," He said
"And hear now what I say
For I have seen and heard the cries
Of those who, to Me, pray.

"Keep your eyes upon ME now
Not what you hear or see
And, as you do, you'll keep My peace -
IF your mind stays on ME!"

"I've told you there would be such times
When, of these things, You'd hear
I told you so you'd be PREPARED
And FULL OF PEACE, not fear."

"For all these things MUST be fulfilled
Yet MY WORD fails not
For I AM still your Hiding Place
As all the fires rage hot."

"You're hid beneath MY shadow now
And you can rest in Me
Yes you can trust My Words of LOVE
To last eternally."

"For I'm your Father, Counselor, Friend
Your Alpha and your End
And if this was the world's last day
Be sure, for you, I'd send."

"I've promised I'd save you a place
If you would stay in Me
Stay pure and faithful, eyes on Me
And, victory, you'll see."

"I can't tell you if it's 'the end' -
NO human man can know
But I CAN tell you, it IS close,
So be prepared to go."

"Each day I give you, reach in love
To share My grace to another soul
Reach out to all around you
And press on towards the goal."

"Occupy until I come
Live each day FULL in ME
Just keep your eyes upon MY face
And know that I DO see."

"I see the world, I see YOUR LIFE
And I DO care for YOU
And know, no matter WHAT occurs
My love for you stands TRUE."

"I'm Alpha and Omega - God -
I'm King and Lord of ALL
I'll be right near to care for you
As, on My name, you call."

"For I can change the hearts of Kings
And I, their hearts, do try
And I'M the one who formed this world
And says when it shall die."

"So, USE this time to SEEK THE LOST
And tell them of My Love
That they, too, may be saved and live
With Me, home up above."

"Don't listen to fear's voice - hear MINE!
Then STAND on what you've heard
Don't fear yours or the world's fate -
It's destined by MY WORD."

"Keep your eyes on ME, My Child,
And let Me wipe each tear
For I am God and IN CONTROL -
So live in peace, not fear."

Hi Everyone.  It is another clear and beautiful sunny day.  We are headed to the low 80's this afternoon.  Our main activity for today is to go to a meeting at 10:30 to fill out the paperwork and select the spot in the new columbarium that our Church is building.  This has been in the works for sometime and they are just now taking the orders.  I did pick up my friend and we went to coffee yesterday.  On the way to pick him up I stopped at Walmart to pick up prescriptions for Pat and then on the way back to take my friend home I made a quick stop at Aldi's to complete the grocery shopping.

Our new baseball park down by the river opened on Tuesday and with a high school baseball game and then a college baseball game between Clemson and the Univeristy of Georgia team.  Last night the Augusta Greenjackets, a farm club of the Giants, had their first game in their new park.  Our Church parking lot and the Baptist Church parking lot across the street are both being used with a shuttle bus running from the ballpark to a spot close to the Church parking lots.  Apparently the traffic situation went well from all reports.

Jane, that Cabbage Bake sounds very much like the one that Pat made recently.  However, don't think she had Cajun spices in it which would probably help it from being so bland.

deAngel, Pat and I used to go to the drive in when we were dating and in college.  There is still a drive in open here in our county, which must be one of the few left in the country.

Amy, Pat seems to prefer dealing with the little pieces for her quilts.  She is putting together blocks when she feels like working on it.  Yesterday she did oil her Singer sewing machine so it will be ready when she is.  She has also spent a few hours this last few days up in her sewing studio but don't know how much sewing she has accomplished.  Her main focus recently has been on making pot holders with the quilt pieces.  I liked your saying about eating dessert and hadn't heard that one before.

Gloria, I remember the first TV Pat and I had was a tiny black and white one that was probably a 9" one.  We finally have ME TV on our Dish network.  I am recording the old Carol Burnett shows and the WKRP shows as both were fun.  I watched the first recorded episodes of them yesterday afternoon in lieu of all of the politics and bad news.

Just a quick good morning.   A partly sunny, windy morning, but supposed to turn into a nice day with the temperature going up to 80º,  Then, Sunday, rain and a lot cooler temperatures for the rest of the week.

I have had breakfast and need to clean up my dishes and get on with my day.

I have not heard from my DIL as to what time we will be going out to dinner.  The place is only about 15 or 20 min. from here.  They are open until 8, but when I called to see what the time was the latest we could get there, I was told you have to be in and seated by 7:45,  So, I am sure we will make it with plenty of time.

Jane,  I guess by now, you are a great-grandmother  !   Congratulations !  Hope you will be able to get to meet the baby real soon .

Gloria,  I hope you will not have any problems with your apartment inspection.  When we have an inspection, it could be the manager or the maintenance man who comes in, and they are only in here less than 5 min.  Everybody gets all flustered about inspections, but they really don't amount to much.  They mainly check the smoke detectors  and the sprinkling system and make sure all the appliances are in good working order.  A quick glance around and they are gone.

Hi to Larry, Lloyd, Amy and all the friends who come in later.  Have a wonderful day.

Joy

Good Morning,

Jane,  I'd listen for new baby cries but the wind is "sweepin' down the Plain" from the wrong direction!  Weather forecast sounds as if she could be nicknamed "Stormy".

News about the horrible wild fires in the northwest part of Oklahoma may be making the national news - particularly the film from a local CBS affiliate a weather watcher took while he was literally backing up as fast as he could to get away from huge flames starting to come over the road he's on.
(Do I get a prize for the day's longest sentence?   :crazy2: )

It's been a wild week around my house....well, wilder than usual.
1)  The main thoroughfare onto which we must exit is being repaved and we never knew which lanes would be open or if we would have to turn right whether we were going that direction or not.   >:(
2)  The HOA is having the outside trim painted on all the units and it was my turn on Monday.  Opened the blinds to find men on ladders outside the windows.   :o
3) Painting was followed by cement repairs to one next door neighbor's sidewalk
4) A handyman was installing a new shower at the other next door neighbor's unit.
5)  I had some kind of meeting or appointment every day and had to maneuver around all sorts of vehicles to get in and out of my driveway.   :-\
Whew!

I've been out to water the pot garden this morning.  Noticed something flitting around the pansies.  That reminded me that it's time to put out the hummingbird feeder.  However, I plan to wait until all this wild wind/dust/storms/"whatever" moves on;  a hummer would probably blow away trying to feed.

Domestic Duties have, of course, piled up while I was out and about.  Off to see which one I want need to do first.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Mary Ann,   If OKC were a clock face, I'd live "north of noon" - a long way from the fires, although if the wind is coming from the northwest and is strong enough, we might smell the smoke.

May be that way this afternoon and our humidity is supposed to drop from 45% to 7%.   I've started my humidifier going.

Hang in there, Janie!!!!!

Hey, GG!!!!   Congratulations!  Does this mean you are heading to OK sometime in the near future?  Callie, if you are up for a gathering (should this work for GG), I will try to make the trip as a one day-no cats type.  I do have lots on the plate until mid-June, some MUST dos & some icky stuff.  Guess I better ask just where this new little girl lives?????

I can't concentrate on anything right now, my neighbor, my buddy, the one that lurks in here.... is with Hospice, can't last long as no nourishment for nearly 2 weeks.  Naturally they are keeping her pain free, doesn't help my state of mind.  She has been fighting this battle for about a year & half but the last month she really wanted it over.  I miss her but know she will be in a better place, she has earned it.

Gloria, I am whining already about the "upper 80s" .... not only the heat, but the wind actually makes hair stand straight up when you walk out the door.  Parts of the state looking for snow tonight, with the wind, drifting will close roads in a hurry.  2 days of upper 80s & tonight 33 with real feel of 16 (in Wichita).... crazy weather~~  I love the Poem that Was Us... really was!

Joy, I filled the dishpan in the sink before breakfast, rarely do I leave dishes overnight, BUT..... and did not get them cleaned up until just while ago.  I mixed up some meat spread & ran to the store for a loaf of French bread so my neighbor's family could make an open face sandwich any time they came & went from the Hospice room at the hospital.  I remember how difficult it was to find just something nourishing & not spicy or sweet when we stayed with my mother while she was dying.  She was totally lucid until the day she died so we sat by her in the hospital day & night from late Sept to late Nov.  With my neighbor they are keeping her pain free so not sure what she hears, Mother wanted no drugs. My heart goes out to the family.

Larry, on ME TV I do enjoy Diagnosis Murder, Wagon Train, so many other series from long ago that are peaceful enough to watch & nod off when really tired.  I love the message built into the shows, no nasty language, no blood & guts-gory scenes... you recognize the good guys 'cause they ride a white horse and bad guys 'cause they are offensive from the git-go.  I rarely sat down to watch TV until I got the "Over the Air" antenna. TV was on in front of the ironing board, by the TV & even one on the kitchen cabinet to listen to when cooking... but I catch myself hanging around to watch a show to the end these days.  My husband would never have gone without his sports channels & the all day talk/news shows.  I hated the noise that came with both types, we have a big enough house we each had our own "space".  ;)  I can't change the world but can change MY little part of the world.

I have been reading all the posts and do say a prayer when anyone is having a bad day.... sometimes it is just hard to talk. God Bless... Shirley

I am ALIVE......and hopefully heading on to better days.

We had a safe flight home....
I was very uncomfortable so headed off to bed.  Called the doctors office early yesterday morning to see if I could get in....told them how uncomfortable I was.  They could not get me in until Tuesday morning!  Got up this morning and called them again....all but begging to please let me come in, and they did.  It has been diagnosed as SHINGLES!  UGH😩😩  They prescribed steroids and a antibiotic.  Now I just hang in there the best I can until my drugs click in.....

CONGRATULATIONS GGrandma, JANE.  Thankful that your little bundle of joy arrived safely and she and mama are doing well.

JOY, I know you had to have enjoyed your family gathering very much.  What fun.

GLORIA, I do hope the old bag was kind to you while inspecting your place, and did not continue to accuse you of smoking!  Gurrr.

We had snow overnight....just 3 inches but always appreciated as we need it so badly.

I need to head off to bed......my best to you all.

Good morning everyone 44° already BUT tomorrow forecaster says only mid 30's for a high tomorrow. Looks like the southeast states are in for bad storms including tornadoes. Hope all our friends in the area stay safe. My older son is busy pruning his trees and pulling up some that are about dead from those gypsy moth caterpillars 2 years ago. If no crop this year  the trees will all come out and then he will just plant a bigger garden in that area. He will just keep enough trees for family to have some good apples.

LARRY  there is a drive in still open here in RI. I remember when we had a choice of them to go to. The only to enjoy a movie with little ones in those days. News this morning is not good with the strike on Syria. Glad we were not alone in that. Hate the thought of another WW. Frightening.

JOY  my son came here yesterday ready to record what the manager and her sidekick said when they came  here. They never showed up. I saw her side kick later after she had already left the building, I asked him why they did not show up, of course he had excuses-they were busy and she had to leave. I told him before they finally get here I want my 24 hour notice that they are coming. Even in the rules we have it states they will notify is 24 hours before they come. Never had that before, they just  showed up. Nice warm weather and I bet she left to get ready to go camping for the week end. She needs a witness when she inspects, I had one too ready but she left. Had to laugh though, after she left almost everyone opened their windows. That is why she evicted the one under me, her windows were open and someone must have called her because she came here on a Saturday and took a picture of it. Only time in 4 years since I have been here that she came on a Saturday.

CALLIE  we have heard about the fires out there. Seems like they are starting early this year.

JANE  hope by this morning that baby is here at last. WOW  glad that Emma Nicole finally made her appearance. Can GG relax a bit now?  Know that you are longing to hole and cuddle her. Nothing like that and the smell of a baby is there? Congratulations, I bet everyone is relieved that the birth is over and now all that is left is to see and love her. I had a sister named Emma. My daughter used to call her Auntie Em and she had not yet see the Wizard of Oz. My sister loved that.

JUNE  your back sounds like mine now. Laying down is the only time it does not hurt as much. Don't like thinking how many years it has been that way.

SHIRLEY  with all that wind I would stay inside the rest of my life I think. That poem fits all of us in here. Joan picked a good one the day she posted it. in the morning starting at 9am week days on MeTV I watch Perry Mason, Matlock and then Diagnosis Murder. Sunday night I watch Love Boat. Touched by an Angel and  then Colombo. All old favorites.

JENNY  no wonder you felt so bad. I had the shingles shot and hope I never get it. My daughter had it starting on her head and onto her forehead, She thought that it might be shingles and called the doctor and got right in, he started her on meds so it cleared up fast because she caught it early. Hope by now the meds have kicked in and you are feeling a bit better. That old bag of a witch did not show up yesterday and I was angry. My son even took the time to come here so he could be a witness to what she said, he was going to record it. By tomorrow night we might be in for freezing rain in this area.

AMY  have "fun?" with your dancing partner.

LLOYD  hard not to spoil those little grands or greatgrands.

Have a good day everyone.

"God gives us a new day each morning, We can spend it in joy, or in sorrow. We can't change what happened yesterday, and we don't know what's coming tomorrow. So as long as today, is one thing we have,  it seems like a good thing to do, to make it as nice as a day can be, For ourselves and for others too."

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting another very nice day today with it getting into the mid-80's this afternoon.  Yesterday morning we did go to the Church and meet with the lady heading up the Columbarium committee.  She explained everything to us and we choose the niche we wanted, which will be right next to the plate we are getting on which Stacey's name and birth date and death date will be recorded.  We then stopped at the Sunrise Grill for our lunch and split a huge club sandwich and each had a side of potato salad.  It was a big meal.  After we got home and I rested I installed the new router/modem I had purchased so I could stop renting one from Comcast.  It installed very easily and this stop the monthly fee for the device.

Today I got up fairly early but after my shower and getting partly dressed I laid back down and read from my iPhone as I often do.  I plan on attending a meeting this morning but want to leave early enough to stop by the Comcast store to return the equipment I have from then which I no longer need.  I need to do a couple of chores in the kitchen like clean  and cut up some celery and grate another pound of cheese.  I also need to empty the ice bin.

Joy, hope you enjoy your dinner out with your son and DIL and the oysters are good.  Glad your inspections don't involve picky items.

Callie, I haven't heard anything about the wild fires in NW Oklahoma.  It sounds like your area is getting all spiffied up.  Pat put her hummingbird feeder out last week and has seen several hummingbirds using it already.

Jane, congratulations on becoming a great grandmother.  Sorry that your granddaughter had such a long and hard labor but glad mother and child are fine.  How is the Dad doing?  :)

June, glad you are able to find some comfort laying down.

Shirley, so sorry about your buddy being in her final days.  Nice and thoughtful of you to make up some food that the family can eat while sitting the vigil. Those are long hours for the family keeping watch.  With the ME TV shows one wouldn't be concerned about the children viewing them.  I sure wouldn't want small children exposed to what is now on the network evening shows or even watching the news.

Jenny, glad you are safely home but so sorry to hear that you have shingles as I understand they are very painful.  Glad you had a little snow.

Amy, hope you don't have to get out in the snow since you have taken off the snow tires.  It sounds like your snow clearing may keep you busy.

Sandy, I don't think I have ever heard of painless shingles.  However, glad if you have to have them that they are that type.  Enjoy the beauty of the snow.

Gloria, hope your son will have a good apple crop this year.  I am just now listening to the news about the Syrian attack.  Like you sure hope it doesn't lead to another war.  Probably good that she has a witness when she inspects your apartment.  Those are all good shows that you mentioned on ME TV.  I thought I had it set to record Carol Burnett and WKRP in Cincinnati but only got one recording of each.  I will have to check to see what I did wrong.

LARRY, the last I heard, they were still trying to get "Daddy" down off his cloud!  He's overjoyed!

I wish everyone who has a health problem a fast solution!

I'm in the middle of laundry and putting things away...like boots, knit hats, winter shirts, winter coats.  I know, I know!  I'm probably jumping the gun a bit but they're not THAT far away!  This is a small house.  I'm going to go through closets and drawers and if I haven't worn it in two years, it's going to goodwill!  I hope.....

I was diagnosed with shingles,
after I had taken the vaccine.

The shingles vaccine has been proven as
the most effective method to reduce the
risk of developing shingles.

It can also reduce complications such
as long-term pain caused by shingles.

So I assume the vaccine helped  me,  even
though I did get a milder case of shingles.

I also took meds  from the dr,  which pretty
much made me take to my bed for about 4 weeks!!

Shingles present differently in people  so
one never knows what symptoms one will
get ..

All I know is I hope never to get it again...
even though some people do get it more then
once!!

Shingles is never fun.

G'Afternoon to you all and a Hello to Lloyd !, sorry Lloyd, i noticed your 'green light' was on this morning, i waited but i guess you where still in the land of NOD ! and i did not like to disturb you, so ,catch you next time mate , lol..
Larry.  I read your remarks about your early days with the old 'Black and White' Television, that brought back memories of what we where watching back in (i think) mid or late 1950's,
one that i remember was at that time, one of  funniest shows on our (BBC) TV, it was called 'The Amos and Andy Show' and was always a topic of laughter at work the following day !, our first TV had a 12 inch screen, a little bit different to those around today !. lol.
                                                                                            Cheers.   Roley.

Sandy, I had a mild case of shingles which in my case, was more of a rash.  However, it started in the middle of my abdomen and went to my spine on my right side.  My doctor confirmed that it was shingles.  I don't remember much, if any, pain with mine.  Jenny, I am sorry you are suffering from the shingles because, as others have said, it can be very painful.

We are expecting rain, snow and freezing rain today and tomorrow.  We were going to have a family get-together today but cancelled it and we'll try again in two weeks.

Jane, if I didn't congratulate you on the birth of your new great-grandchild, I do so now.  The only grandmother I knew was named Emma and she lived with us for seven years at the end of her life.  She died at 92 years of age.

Gloria, nice in a way that the "witch" didn't show, but it only prolongs the agony.  I hope your son is able to be with you the next time.  That might stop her in her tracks!

I hope everyone has better weather than we are having now.

Mary Ann

Roley, one of my all time favorites that came to us on PBS was a British comedy called "Are You Being Served?"  I loved it!

I've got my fourth load of laundry in the washer and tw more to go!  I'm making progress!

The sun is shining and it's 75º with a predicted high of 79.  SPRING HAS SPRUNG!  And we're getting the showers overnight to prove it!

Jane, with Mr Humphrey, Mrs Slocombe (sp?) and young Mr Grace?
I enjoyed it too... long ago.

An amateur theatre company has been told it cannot perform a stage version of BBC sitcom Are You Being Served? after it was deemed “demeaning to women and outdated”.

I hope they stick to their guns and show it somewhere.  I'd go!  And as for it putting women down, Mrs. Slocombe could put down any man with that LOOK of hers.

I just saw Emma on Face Time on my phone.  I want to hold her!!

Jenny:  So sorry you have Shingles.  I had the shot - later was diagnosed by a Doc in a Box - twice for shingles and it turned out to be an allergy instead.  Still uncomfortable but not as painful, I am sure. You didn't need this now.

Jane:  My grandmother was named Emma - she was born in upper Sweden. I love the name. Enjoy.  When can you get together?

Gloria:  If only the right person would know about "the witch".  Remember, strength in numbers.

Don is making an omelet for our late breakfast.  I have been awake since 3:30 AM.  Wind, and dusty out there and we did smell smoke last night and checked outdoors a couple of times.

Bubble:  How is it that a few people can make decisions on what we read/see. or watch.  We are being herded.  Hope you are well - take care.

I am getting ready to go out on the sunporch and read.  Suppose to be the last nice day.

Jane, congratulations, to you and the new family.  Such a pretty name.

Jenny, so sorry to hear about your problem.  I have heard how painfull shingles are.  At lest you are getting treatment.  Prays that they will heal fast.   You and your husband have had a few stressful months.  You deserve a good summer.     You need to go to one of the casinos and relax :)

Good Morning,

Still windy and now cold.   Actually glad I have Domestic Duties to catch up on.

The air over OKC began to look hazy about 5:00 p.m. yesterday - when the wind changed to the north and blew the smoke from the fires 80+ miles away in this direction.   Haven't seen a news report this morning and am hoping the change in wind direction didn't send the fires in a different direction.  Last report I heard said more than 220,000 acres have been burned.  This region is mostly ranchland but three small towns had been evacuated.

I loved the BBC sitcoms such as "Are You Being Served",  "Keeping Up Appearances" and "Last of the Summer Wine".

There was an article in the morning paper about the way Facebook and various servers track us so they can "present" us with ads.
I did a Google search to get information about flights my son/dil are taking today. As soon as I was finished, I went to my server's homepage and there was an ad for "cheap flights" anywhere I wanted to go.
Just did a search for BBC comedies because I couldn't remember the exact title for "....Summer Wine".
Wonder what I'll find on the homepage this time?   :tickedoff:

(EDIT)  Ha!  no ad.  Guess "they" can't figure out what I "might be interested in" this time.   )

Jane, when can you share Emma Nichole's picture?

Jenny, so sorry about the Shingles.  Hope they heal quickly and, as Lindancer says, you can get back to the casinos.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

A good Saturday morning.  Sunny but windy outside this morning.

Thank you ALL for the supportive comment about my shingles.  I can not believe how common they are!  Anyone that an avoid them sure needs to! 🤪  SANDY, I was most interested in hearing how yours were  the painless kind, but I see you did go into more detail.  The spot that presented on my higher, the “wing” area part of my  back looked like a huge welt from a scratch. Bob asked me “how did you scratch your back”?  Unfortunately we did not take a picture of it because I assumed I had scratched as it itched SO badly.  I was doing any and everything I could to get relief from the itch.  Rubbing on chair backs, corner of walls, and begging Bob to PLEASE scratch.  I just felt like I had flu type symptoms, nauseous, plain wiped  out in general and the horrible pain.

SHIRLEY, I am sorry I did not respond to your sadness regarding your friend.  So much sadness around these days.  One of my first cousins husband died while we were gone so we missed his furneral.....my neighbors mom died very unexpectedly, and a dear friend that we got to see for the last time is in the very late stages of Alzheimer’s.  Hugs to you.

GLORIA, that OLD BAG just continues to taunt you with her meanest, doesn’ she?  Now you have to wait until she gets around to you so she can come in and insult you.....oh and, it would have been great for your son to be there to record her nasty statements.  Anxious to hear if you got the antenna installed yet?

I wish you all the best for the rest of your day.

Jenny

Are we back to winter again/still? I had a nice waltz with the snowblower, shovel was stood up. :)  Snow was too heavy to move with the shovel . Poor birds are really scrounging for food...I have put feed out a couple of times for them. Even put it in a new spot under the pine tree and they found it.Weather is to stay the same for tomorrow also, I just took a look out and you wouldn't know that I cleaned the driveway....not doing it again tonight. Tomorrow is a new day.

Jenny, I saw what shingles did to my friend and that prompted me to get the shingle shot. Another friend even had them under her finger nails and said that was painful. Hope your meds work fast for you.

Shirley, prayers for your friend and you. Know this will leave a hole in your heart but there are wonderful memories that the two of you shared.

Jane, I am with Callie, when can we get a peep of this precious bundle??

Gloria, with any luck she was out looking for another job.....did she take her broom stick??? I am glad your son was with you.

Gloria de , my porch is under 3-4 inches of snow again and it is still coming down! :(

Joy, how was dinner last night?

I have to admit that I have a picture on my phone but I don't know how to get it to a place where you can see it.  They keep telling me they are going to teach me how to do that and they never do!  I think she looks like her mother did when she was born.  So does my daughter.  And that's a good start because Allison is beautiful...inside and out.

I asked my daughter to email me the picture and then I'll ask Bubble or Larry or someone smarter than I am to post it.  Might be a while.  I'm pretty sure the new Grandma is very busy.

I don't remember if I said this, but I've had a "face time" visit with them all!  It ended with tears in my eyes!

Good evening.

I wrote two messages this morning and somehow,  lost both of them.  I thought I hit the  "Post" button, but neither of them ever showed up.  By that time, I just gave up.

I wound up baking an apple pie, as I was hungry for something good.

Amy, dinner was very nice last night.  We all had plenty to eat, and were just about able to finish our dessert.    Several flavors of ice cream and drinks are also included.  Soda, tea or coffee.   We were surprised that there was nobody waiting in line.  We were able to get a table right away.  People were still coming in when we left about 7:30.  The grounds are so plenty and we were able to get a table by the window.  Nice evening!!!

This afternoon I had been reading and got so sleepy, that I went and laid down on the bed and fell asleep.  The phone woke me up, with a man's voice asking for me.  It kind of caught me by surprise just waking up.  I had to ask twice who it was.  Turned out to be a couple that I haven't heard from for about 20 years,  He asked if they could come see me and I said "  "today??"   He came back with "No, right now. We are here right now !" .   I had to tell him that I was laying down and it wasn't a good time.  I hadn't even gotten dressed for the day.  He said it was ok... they'd try another time.

Now, I just think that is so inconsiderate of people to do something like that.  I would never think to do that to somebody.  And, they were really not real good friends when we lived near each other.  I felt bad, but it just was not a good time to have visitors.   If they had called me earlier and let me know that they were thinking about coming to see me, I would have planned my day differently.   By that time, I was wide awake and that is when I decided to make a pie.

It was a beautiful day out, and I should have been sitting outside, but it was just one of those days where I was so tired.  I have lots of days like that.  Since I don't have anyone to be responsible for, except myself,  I tend to do just what I want to do.  Or not to, as was the case today.

Have a good rest of the evening.

Joy

Joy,  you shouldn't feel bad
about not allowing people to "pop in"  with out
planning for  a visit way a head of time.

That is just rude of them,  because no
one likes to be put in a position to say no to
people  popping in.     I would have done the
same thing.

Of course,  I never answer my phone unless
I know who is calling.

I wish that I had a piece of that pie !!!!

And, Sandy and Lloyd ,  I sure wish I could share a piece of pie with both of you.  I don't have any ice cream, but  I do have some Cool Whip, so that will be just as good.   Maybe I could sneak a little piece for both of you in "the hidey hole".   LoL
