Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend  There's poppy seed muffins to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Safe Harbor” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Young Preacher

As a young preacher, my small church had limited facilities, so we held baptisms in a creek. With alligators in the area, however, that was less than ideal.

Then a minister friend suggested I bring my next group of baptismal candidates to his church for a joint baptismal service. Naturally, I accepted.

The baptismal pool had a clear front so the congregation could see everything. When the baptisms were finished, curtains were drawn, and I was left alone in the pool for a moment. The building had no air conditioning, and it was quite hot. I thought how nice it would feel to take a little dip. I glided to one end, turned, and backstroked to the other end.

Hearing a riotous uproar in the church, I looked toward the congregation. The curtain was down only to the top of the glass! An astonished and amused congregation had been watching my every move.

Although it was probably the best laugh that church ever had, I never was invited back to repeat the performance. :)

Food For Thought

The Holy Spirit Sanctifies Us

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:1-2

To God’s elect . . . chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood.
1 Peter 1:1-2
We don’t use the word sanctify very often in everyday conversation. Nevertheless, it refers to a crucial work of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives. Very simply, to sanctify means “to make holy.”
In the opening of his letter to the churches in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), Peter speaks of sanctifying in the wider context of salvation. God loves us so much that even before we were born, he chose us to be his children. After we were born, despite our desire to reject him, God sprinkled us with the blood of his Son, Jesus, and redeemed us. Now he wants us to live for him.
Helping us to live for God is what the Spirit’s “sanctifying work” is all about. As Peter in¬di¬cates, our participation in this can be described mainly as obe-dience. Sanctification is the moment-by-moment process by which we more and more submit our hearts, minds, and bodies to following Jesus.
Can we do this by ourselves? I know that my will is not strong enough to be perfectly obedient.
Thank God that the Holy Spirit sanctifies us by working in and through us! The Holy Spirit has not only set us free from sin but also lives in our hearts and reminds us to follow Jesus more closely. As we daily follow Jesus, we become holy, set apart for serving God.
Holy Spirit, sanctify our hearts today so that we will love what you love and do what you desire us to do. In Jesus, Amen.

Thought of the Day

“What I like most about change is that it’s a synonym for ‘hope.’  If you are taking a risk, what you are really saying is, ‘I believe in tomorrow and I will be part of it.'”

Good morning everyone.

Going to be another hot day here...and a day of rest.
Have homemade chicken soup ready for lunch and I think a salad plate for supper will do on a day like today.

Phyliss ,that is a peaceful graphic.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone...

I'm running a bit late this morning so I'll just mark my place and I'll be back after church.  Make it a good day, Everyfriend.  Do what you feel like doing.

Have a great day everyone

Lloyd

Ya' gotta love this guy!!!!!
Meet Walter Barnes - All golfers should live so long as to become this kind of old man!
Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked, "How many of you have forgiven your enemies?" 80% held up their hands. The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one man, Walter Barnes.
"Mr. Barnes, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?"
"I don't have any," he replied gruffly.
"Mr. Barnes, that is very unusual. How old are you?"
"Ninety-eight," he replied. The congregation stood up and clapped their hands.
"Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front and tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?"
The old golfer tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of the pulpit, turned around, faced the congregation, and said simply,
"I outlived all them jerks" - and he calmly returned to his seat.

Good morning!  I was up before the sun was but it is shining now.  Supposed to be not quite as hot today but still humid.

Thanks, Amy, for liking the graphic.  And thanks to you, Joan, for posting it on this first day of the week.

No particular plans for today so I will probably stay in where it is cool.  Take care, everyone, and have a peaceful day.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Thanks for the chuckle.

Phyllis--Good morning.  I really like your "Safe Harbor" graphic.  It's going to be hotter than yesterday, they say.  IMO when it is in the 90's it feels the same "hot" whether is 92° or 96°.  The farthest I'll go is to get my paper.:)

Good Morning Everyone!
Lloyd, if he outlived his enemies, I certainly hope he didn't outlive his friends.  That would be a terrible.

Kinda cloudy out this morning, they say, once again, possibility of showers.  Hope, hope, hope.

All, well most, of the family is coming over for Sunday dinner today.  So we will have a housefull later.  I will be going to church by myself, wife wants to stay home and prepare the meal.

I wish each of you a good Sunday.

Hi everyone.  It looks like we are going to get a break in the heat for today with the high only expected to get to 91.  It is expected to be to only 87 at noon, which we will appreciate after church.  I know Pat plans on eating out after church as she indicated that yesterday.  I did have a good nights sleep and have taken care of the outside chores this morning.  I am looking forward to Sunday School and church.  Today I am bringing the devotional for the Sunday School class.  This afternoon I will listen to Don's classical music program and later watch some golf as I have a quiet afternoon and evening.

Good morning halkel.  They keep telling us we're to get rain, too, and it just doesn't happen.  Enjoy having your family there for a meal.

Larry--Good morning.  Local weatherguesser just said it's going to be 98° today.  I think we are in for a LONG, HOT summer.

Good morning, Beverly.  I just looked at my outdoor thermometer, and it's now 88° here at my house.

Sandy--Good morning.

Good Sunday Morning dear friends. I had a broken sleep. Woke up at one o'clock, went back to sleep. Woke at 4 o'clock and just dozed a bit till 5:30 then decided that was enough. Did the usual prayers, then the exercises and leg massages then up for the day. Now I sitting here with my eyes drooping. Tough luck body…you don't get another chance to doze till Church and lunch are over with.

Jane, I'm so happy that you had a fun time with your friends. That must have been a real treat.

Hal, do you count the Church donations every Sunday ? We used to just lock them in the safe and count them on Monday, then down to the bank to deposit.

Larry, to me 91 is HOT. Our high is to be 87. I prefer 80. I will surely be napping part of my afternoon. I am hoping to order groceries for delivery on Monday. But first comes 10 a.m. Church, then lunch, then home.

Beverly, do you feel you are getting more extra warm days in Florida that you did say 10 years ago ? It seems to me many areas are warming up in our country. I don't know about the rest of the world.

June--Good morning.  You didn't ask me, but I moved here 8 years ago, and I don't remember these HOT days starting so early and keeping on day after day.

Good morning everyone, another beautiful morning here, still cool enough to enjoy. I think I finally got rid of MSN. I tried installing an older version of Skype and that msn took over. I want Internet Express. It and Google are enough for me. Got an email from grandson last night and he will be here one evening this week. Hate bothering him but he understands what I want. That tech put more things in here I never heard of before because he likes them. I am slowly getting rid of them. They keep popping up and that is a pain. Still have to install Open Office to type in.  I am using Notepad now. Still have to get my email fixed, right now Gmail is the only one working. Will have to get addresses again.

AMY  great being back. I knew there could not be a day where you really took it easy with NO driving.

JOAN  I have not reinstalled PSP or the games I bought but will get there soon I hope but not today.

JUNE  feels like I have come home again after being away for a long time. We are a family here, we have known each other a long time and share more that with our real families.

JANE  glad you had fun at dinner yesterday.

Son just called, he is on his way here, he makes sure he comes every week.

BEVERLY  I have  DIL who works in a hospital Lab, so often he has to work the holidays and we miss her. One weekend a month she has to work.

HAL  every drop of rain helps. I know the south west could use a week of gentle rain and that still might not be enough with all those fires.

PHYLLIS  great graphic. You sure have talent.

JOAN  love poppy seed muffins. Used to make a poppy seed bread, oh so good. Lot of work but worth it. Young Preacher-wow embarrassing moments. Thank you for today's goodies.

LLOYD  smart old golfer. Thanks for this one.

PHYLLIS  we have enjoyed a couple of weeks of low humidity but tomorrow it will be returning. That is when my AC will be running just about all the time.

JOAN  my son just left, walked out with him ad the sun is hot already. I will be in the rest of the day, too.

HAL  enjoy the family gathering.

LARRY  thank you. Hope that works in 7, too. Bringing this PC back to the original 7Pro is installed. When I get everything working right I will try 10 again.

To me anything over 75° is hot and when the humidity returns then any temperature is too hot.

Gloria--How nice that you son comes by to visit every week.  You'll get that PC set up little by little.  If it acts up again, I'd throw it out the window.:)  My neighbor made poppy seed muffins last week and brought me some.  They sure were good. The local noon news is on, and they just said it is 93°.

I'm home from church but a made a couple of stops on the way.  I went around by the Farmers Market and bought some peppers, tomatoes and red potatoes and an onion.  Then I went by WM and got some groceries that I needed.  I'm going to put dinner in the crockpot in a couple of minutes.

The temp here is 84 right now and we are supposed to hit 88 later in the afternoon.  But my house is still feeling pretty cool from an overnight low of 64.  I can live with this!  But I'm sure it's not going to be permanent.

I guess I better go get the doggies a snack and me some lunch.  I got some good fruit at WM and I'm thinking ... lunch?

So good to see you back in business, Gloria.... you've had as much trouble with that computer as I have the RV... only the RV has been going on for almost 2 years & I am about to cave in.  The list grows... this trip was a new accessory battery AND the frig door just lifted off in my hand on the way out to CO.  My sons repaired in the Walmart parking lot before going up the mountain (had access to all the supplies to come up with a better latch & catch).  Got home & next day discovered the whole under engine "shroud" was hanging down.  I can't believe we drove with it down, would have torn off in the wind... so no rhyme or reason for it hanging down.  At least the awning people were kind enough to send the end caps AND the strip of LED lights under the awning, I let them know about the problem before we left.  In spite of 2 recalls on the awning, the company & customer rep would get my vote again.  Hope Regina's new place isn't in an area in danger of fires.  She still painting?

About this weather, we have not seen heat like this since back in 1954 when the temp went to 118° and I was working in a 200' concrete block builting with concrete floors... and NO AC, only a fan on a stand near the front door, Civil Service job.  I had already had my first heat stroke by that time so was a nightmare summer.  This year might be worse since this is only June... and July-August our hottest months!   :crazy2:

Larry, I bookmarked that link in hopes of coming to terms with Windows 10, I was just adjusting to 7 but still prefer my old Vista one.  I know it is a mental block, I hate changes & don't like being bullied, which is what I feel MS is doing.  Tag me a grouch.....

Lloyd, my husband would have loved that one!

Hal, I have a feeling God is smiling on your wife for being so good to the family..... for feeding HIS children.

Phyll, in all the 50+ years I've lived in Kansas, none were ever as humid as this year.  Of course, my doctor would comment that "I was never 81 before, either!"  Should say, "my OLD doctor"... one I've had for 30 years would just give me a hug & tell me I'll be okay.

Lunch time already, & maybe a nap.  Only got 2 & 1/2 hours sleep last night since I had a nap yesterday afternoon. Vicious circle.  Had storms on the radar that didn't end up getting into Wichita & more expected this afternoon.  Right now all cats are inside.... even tho they spent most of the night inside.

Have a super Sunday, EveryFriend.... Shirley

Jane, my crock pot sits empty... I need inspiration, what are you fixing?  I can handle day heat if the nights are cool enough for open doors & fresh air.  Have to wait till fall for real comfy weather.

Shirley--You sure have had more than your fair share of troubles with that RV.  I think you got a lemon.  Does your state have a "Lemon Law"?

Good afternoon, the curtains are blowing out stright right now next to me.  I will take that kind of a day.  Joan, I am happy with the mid 70's.   I never liked the summer in Charleston, specialy when they would fry and egg on Broad St. to show how hot it was. Those days we did not have AC in our homes, just fans.  Spent a lot of time at Folly Beach.

Gloria, I am so happy to see you back, hope you stay. I also feel like this is my family. At this age, I am like that joke that Joan posted, not many mud pie friends left, but thanful for my wonderful young neighbors.  WE use to live near the Elks Club, and they had firewords every 4th.  We also had two ponies, that would nearly kick the side of the stable out they were so upset.  A firetruck would be station outside our homes, as sparks would also fall around us.

Jenn, when my boys were growing up, they were not lucky enough to have grandparents around them.  They all lived in south Carolina, we would see them twice a year. If we could not take the children with us, we did not go.

Phyllis, loved your graphic with the sunsets. Thanks

Lloyd guess I am a Seenager.

Good morning, another hot day here and in the mid-eighties. After all the rain, it is welcomed!

I had a nice lunch with friends but a bad afternoon. I was heading out to the bus for some afternoon shopping when a woman here said she had never been on the bus, had always had a car before, and wanted to come.

I waited for her to get her cart for groceries and then stopped off for coffee and purchased her one. We waited for the bus, I explained it's procedures and while I wanted to go to another store, she asked to go to Walmart. I obliged and we were expected, after shopping to meet at the pharmacy where they had benches.

The upshot was that she wasn't at the pharmacy. I waited from two until five pm. I had her paged three times. She had expressed fear of taking the bus on her own. Finally, at five I took a cab feeling taken advantage of. I have yet to see her and am not welcoming that meeting!

June, no I don't do the offering count every Sunday.  There are several us that do it and we take turns.  I do it about once a month.

It is getting hot out.  Was not too bad early but wouldn't wont to be out there now.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Joan, I've only been running the A/C about 3 or 4 hours a day.  I turn it on around 4 when it's the hottest part of the day and then I turn it off around 10 when there's a nice breeze coming in the door.  I could take this all summer but that's pipe dream.

Shirley, I didn't do the crock pot today because I had some ground turkey that needed to be dealt with so I made a turkey meat loaf instead.  I'm going to freeze half of it for when my friend from Calif. is here.  That's one day I won't have to cook.  Maybe tomorrow I'll do the crock pot and it will be chicken in some way shape or form.  I'm not sure yet.  I do have an envelope of the Campbell's (I think) cooking sauce and I might just build on that.  I'll let you know.

I have some red potatoes.  I think I'll cook a couple of them and have them with the meat loaf for supper.  If anyone wants to join me, I'll stick some in the Hidey Hole.

Angel, if she went home without letting you know, she is seriously lacking in manners.  People can be so thoughtless some times.

Joan, KS doesn't have a lemon law for RVs... just cars.  Crazy, huh, guess who backed those politicians that made that law~  The law is you have to get your own lawyer... at $200 per hour that could rack up more than the RV cost (slight exaggeration  ;) ).  At least that's what it cost our art guild to have a lawyer come explain copyright laws to a few members that wouldn't believe photographers had rights when published in magazines, just like artists have rights.  Ah, well, the kids keep telling me "we've gotten through the problems"... until she comes up with a new one.   :crazy2:

Jane, I just realized I have to run to Sam's Club to get the cats their chicken... with 5 eating every day, one meal of chicken & plenty of other good food the rest of the day, they are eating me out of house & home.

Somebody back earlier got me singing, "dear hearts & gentle people".... was a favorite of my youngest brother when he first lived in another state... and was so homesick.

Oh... someone at the door.............

Bis, thanks for your reply on the climate temperature. I appreciate it. I remember when Global Warming was in the news quite heavily, we had restrictions on causing smog, etc. Many people stopped burning their leaves, changing gasoline types, getting rid of the huge outdoor  brick barbecues they spent a fortune for. I wonder what the reason for change in weather patterns will be now.

Gloria, it is such a treat to see you posting again. I sure hope it continues.  My nine year old iMac keeps plugging along. Strange things
happen every now an then, but I just run Disk Utility, and it seems to clean them up. My girl computer Geek has me back with uTube again. She is a doll…so patient and determined.

Gloria de, I LOVE your new Avatar. You look "Younger than Springtime" ! Keep it up girl..I'm proud of you.

Bis, we have a light breeze here, but it blows from South to North, and my windows all face East. So the conditioner is keeping me comfortable today.

Patricia, Please keep us posted on the Missing lady. I hope she is O.K.

A good, but late, HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

It is a hot one here in the Mile High as well.

The little boys Daddy arrived about 9:30 this morning.  We packed up and headed to the swimming pool to join the other family again.  The cousins got together last night, also at a pool and it was a fun time for all.  GBob and I sure enjoyed it...kiddos were all busy playing and we could just relax. We had a veggie tray then pizza was ordered for all.

After they packed up a couple of hours ago, Bob and I just collapsed in our recliners.  I was feeling emotional as they pulled away....love those little guys so much.

HAL, you are right regarding us not having family to rely on when our little ones were small.  I think the best thing that can happen is for a couple to start out their married life away from family and learn to lean on each other for support.  Nothing like being in a foreign country many hundreds of miles from home to make you bound with your spouse!  We not only did not have family to help out, we really could not afford to have sitters and go out...and to be honest we really never wanted to anyway.  As our son was latching the boys in their car seats he was telling them how much he missed them while he was away and how much he loves them....it made my heart just melt.

GLORIA de, there are so many kids that have never been able to be around grandparents and it is extremely sad for both sides.  They have so much to offer us and us to them.  I feel so blessed that we have had this opportunity to know our grand's so well.  Tonight I am feeling really sad that I made a todo over all of this.... The last thing I would ever want to do is not be able to be around our grand's... We just do not feel we are capable of being in charge for this long extended periods of time.... I know you ALL understand what I am saying..... My being so emotional about this certainly proves this.  Bob is just exhausted.... All the responsibility of the two doggies on top of it.  We can now rest up.....and hopefully get up refreshed tomorrow and put our home back in clean order.

SHIRLEY, I do not think I have ever known any one to have as many problems with a vehicle/motor home than you have had.  I know you have wished over and over that you had never made the switch to this fancier m-home.  What a night mare it has been!  I have equally thought, "if only you had sold the little one to us"!  I know I would have not wanted to,but I would have sold it back to you and you could be happy again.

PATRICIA, I am sure sorry to read about your afternoon....shame on that lady for leaving you waiting like that.   Sure hope she has a mighty good excuse, but I feel she probably won't!

Thank you, JOAN, for our goodies today.  I forgot to comment that I was happy to read that your new cleaning duo seemed to work out well for you.

I wish you all a good night of rest.  Waving at you, JACKIE, knowing you will be coming in to start your day here in just a few hours.

Jenny

JOAN  I like most muffins especially when they are still warm from the oven. When I made the poppy seed bread there was a store in a Polish neighborhood that sod the poppy seeds in 1 pound bags. Used all of it to make 3 loaves of that bread. It was a yeast bread and the recipe said to cover the cough and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Surprised it does rise. It used a whole pound of butter in the dough so it was on the yellow side. Oh so good. Wish I could still make it. I have not had the AC on at all today.  One thing I did get done today is my Skype up and working. So great talking to my daughter and seeing her today. My grandson will come over one night this week and do what I cannot understand. I also got rid of some of the things the tech installed. To me he had no business installing what he likes without asking me.

JANE  weather guessers are saying the humidity will return starting tomorrow and rain Tuesday and Wednesday. A lunch of fresh fruit sounds good to me. I just finished a nice juicy peach. The ones I have had so far have been very good. All southern ones, not California ones.

SHIRLEY  I sure have but this PC is not costing me anything more so far. Just frustrating me till I could scream. So far those fires have stayed far enough away from both their areas. I hope it stays that way. She will finish the painting she is doing now and after they move her instructor told her if she ran into problems in Arizona and she will try helping her online. They really became good friends. I am surprised that as warm as it has been here the humidity was way down so it has been not too bad for me. Like you I don't like big changes at all. This 7pro is a lot different than the 7 home version I had.

DON  I enjoyed your program today. Looks like Canada does not appreciate good music on their holidays. Will miss you next week.

GLORIA de for so many years I have spent more time with my cyber family than my real family.  It sure was lonesome not being able to get here.

AMY  not too far to drive at least.

PATRICIA  tat was thoughtless of that woman not to meet you. At times it doesn't pay to be considerate of others.

SHIRLEY  in PSP folks used many artists work in their creations. Then they had someone start getting them together  stopping their use unless they had permission of paid to use them. Groups really started stressing that to members and had lists of those we can no longer use unless we want to be sued.

JANE  wow if I could only eat a meal like that every day I might gain some weight. Sounds great.

JUNE  a lot of people are blaming the weather this year on the strong el Nino, even the weather people here.

JENNY  I watched ones son's children several times and went home worn out. I know I would not be able to do it now.

Good night everyone, I wish us all a good night's sleep.

Jane, I know I will be right in line for some of your dinner! Thanks!  :)

Farrah has surprised me again; we had a brief squall with thunder and lightening, and she laid on the floor in front of the window and slept right through it!

Jenny, my grandparents, were thousands of miles away when I was growing up. But, we saw them about every ten years.

I have not seen that lady yet; she is probably hiding out. I made time and effort for her and feel I was taken advantage of! I suggested exchanging phone numbers but she said she never hears her phone in her purse.

Anyone who lives in the arctic knows about climate change. It is already deep into it, and the changes are not going to roll back. It is obvious world wide.

I have spent a very quiet  day, reading and sleeping. I hope tomorrow gives me more energy. I had planned to answer snail mail letters and order groceries on line...not done.

I did get to Church, and I did eat lunch downstairs, so the day wasn't a complete bust. I pray you all have a good night, and I plan to do the same. Hugs, Love and Prayers, June

I'm glad you all enjoyed dinner.  Gloria, I don't eat like that every day either.  However, I have enough in the freezer to have a couple decent meals when my friend comes from Calif. at the end of July.  And when I do the crock pot meal, I'll do the same thing.  I don't like to have to cook all the time when I have company.

I'm off to Dreamland so I will bid you all Good Night Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed.  God Bless Us Every One.

Have to go for my licence sticker today and taxes are coming up in July so might as well do that too. I hope the garage phones about my part soon and that will be another job off my list.

Lloyd, I always like seeing that last bale done.....then it was 2nd cut to do later but not a lot of that.

Where's Joan this morning?

I slept well last night.  I was tired and the temps went down to the mid 60s.  I opened the windows and except for a little action from the dogs, slept straight through. Guess I was tired.

I miss Joan, though!

I just had a phone call from our "Fearless Leader" in Florida.  She is fine but her internet is dead.  She said she was all ready to post the goodies for today and it went dead.  Someone is supposed to be coming to fix it today but she's not sure when...or if she said when, I forgot.  But as soon as she can, she'll be back with us.

It was so good to see "Melbourne" on the incoming call!  It's always amazing to me how close we've all become and how easy it is to worry when we don't hear from one another.  Now for Kelly!

Good Monday afternoon, just.....weather turning out dry, part sunny and warm....

Been back from Benji's vets 4 hours now, had an early morning appointment at 9.40am....Well vet Giles confirmed our worst fears to be true...he done an anal gland check and said he was very concerned that the lump had doubled in size since he last done his check of two months ago, said he is concerned at the speed it is growing and that lump has gone from soft to hard after reading through his past history notes from previous vets when it was soft, plus female vets diagnoses of ten days ago saying rock hard....I asked him that question that we all don't want to ask, " how long does he think we have left with him?..." He said judging by the speed lump is growing we could be talking about two months, although it may calm itself for a time being.... On the other hand he has gained weight since we last put him on the scales ten days ago when we took him for his blood test on his kidneys....previous to that since he had his teeth extractions procedure, but in all honesty I may have unwittingly cut his food down, I never topped it up with hard dry food until we got the all clear stitches had dissolved from his gums....Even now Benji doesn't look like a dying dog but...in all fairness vet Giles also mentioned Benji could just keel over if the cancer spreads to his brain or heart....I like this vet he does go into every detail with explanations and answers any questions we - I put to him....We are to take him back in a months time for monitoring and possible another kidney blood test....
There is a vast green space behind the vets where we take Benji for a good run off lead whilst I sit down on the wooden bench...I have never seen Benji any happier than I have seen him today, a dog that seems to be oblivious of any troubles, these are the moments I want to treasure....
.........................................
I also got my tomorrows MS Neurology appointment letter this morning, no wonder my appointment has been brought forward, I am to see a new Consultant from Sweden hospital, who after checking him up on the internet has only been at Poole Hospital a couple of months...just my bad luck again, I am not seeing the top man that it seems every one else seems to be seeing..as I was told by fellow MS sufferer living on my parkhome site, Ivan and wife Jane....I just assumed I was seeing the same MS Consultant, not a new one.....

Jane S, by " the Fearless Leader in Florida..." do you mean the lady who dishes out our " demerits..."  :D
( De Angel ) Lindancer, I really like your new avatar photo...

Hi everyone.  It is another 78 degree morning but will only get into the low 90's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a delightful day as when we got out of church there was a brisk breeze and the temperature was just in the high 80's.  We went to Ryan's Steak House for the buffet after church and then had a quiet afternoon and evening.

I have my morning chores done and am now eating my breakfast.  I will attend my Monday noon meeting as I am in charge today.  I see at least three little birdies in the next up in the corner of our front porch.  I could see their little heads peeping above the nest this morning.

Joan, I agree about the long and hot summer.  It certainly as a hot spring.  I remember several summers where the temperature during the summer seldom got above 90 degrees.

Shirley, it sounds like your motor home is just falling apart in front of your eyes.  Have you looked in a search engine to see if others have had the same experience with that brand.  I can also remember work days before we had air conditioned office--not a good memory.

Jenny, you are indeed blessed with a loving family.  Perhaps you can babysit for a few hours but not for days.  I am sure your family will understand as they love you and Bob are of concern to your children and they may not realize that you both really aren't up to overnight sitting or several days at a time.

June, I agree that 91 is hot but with the breeze we had after church it wasn't uncomfortable.

JaneS, thanks for letting us know the reason that our "Fearless Leader" wasn't here this morning.

Jackie, sorry that your vet news wasn't better about Benji.  You may like your new MS doctor after you see him.

Good Morning Everyone!

I have the water on outside, the government, in all it's wisdom, allows me to legally water on Mondays.  What generosity!  Now since they control my water use if they would just pay my bill.  Sorry, I just get so tired of someone dictating my life for me.

Joanie, miss you this morning, along with your breakfast and words to start our day.

I guess Texas is unique.  It is hot here just like it always is in the summer.  We had such a nice cool/wet spring that it seems hotter than normal, but it isn't.  But we only have a couple of months and then the cooler weather will come back. We haven't had a 100 degree day yet, but they are lurking and will show their head before long.  And we will get the usual hype.

Lloyd I'll bet you are a happy camper that haying is done (for awhile).  The animals will have something to munch on this winter.

Jackie, just love him.  We never have our animals very long anyhow, goodtimes or bad.  My pup is getting almost white around her muzzle.  She is at the groomers this morning to get some skunk smell off her.  She didn't get a full spray but enough that she is stinking up things.  Silly thing may have just wallowed where the skunk sprayed something else.  I have to smile, when the kids are here she always comes over and crawls up and drapes herself across my lap.  She is such a gentle old soul.

My oldest daughter and SIL have a water leak in the garage wall to their water heater.  MY SIL said the plumber came by and told him hopefully it wasn't at the slab level.  If it is then they will have to re-route the water line from heater to the house.  What a mess, tearing out the wall.

Everyone have a great day.

Borrowing

My next-door neighbor and I frequently borrow things from each other. Not long ago, when I requested his ladder, he told me he had lent it to his son.

Recalling a saying my grandmother used to repeat, I recited, "You should never lend anything to your kids, because you will never get it back."

With that, he responded, "Tell you the truth, it's not even my ladder. It's my dad's."

Food For Thought

The Holy Spirit Kindles True Faith

Scripture Reading: Galatians 3:26-4:7

Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
Galatians 4:6
As much as we might like to, it’s physically impossible for us to fly. We need an airplane or some other flying device to do that. In the same way, it’s spiritually impossible for us to make ourselves right with God. We need faith in the Savior to do that for us; we need Jesus Christ. Today’s passage in Gala¬tians tells us that faith itself comes as a gift from God, when he places the Holy Spirit in our hearts so that we cry out to him as our heavenly Father.
Until the Spirit works in our hearts, we remain spiritually dead and in rebellion against God. When God by his grace sends the Spirit into our hearts, he fills us with new life, kindling true faith in us so that we know Jesus as Savior, and giving us the true knowledge that he has made us for himself.
There’s tremendous comfort and assurance in this teaching about the Holy Spirit. This isn’t a once-off quickening. Instead the Holy Spirit speaks to us continually, reminding us that we are not our own but that through Jesus we belong to God.
As you go about your work today, reflect on the Holy Spirit’s work in your life. He has given you faith so that you can call out to your heavenly Father. Don’t ever let anything you encounter rob you of that truth and joy.
God our Father, you have placed your Holy Spirit in our hearts to help us see Jesus. Help us this day, we pray, to trust and serve you. Amen.

Thought of the Day

You're very welcome, Joanie.  When I saw "Melbourne" on the incoming call, I breathed a quick prayer that it was you and that nothing was wrong with YOU.  We sure do come to depend on the internet, don't we?

I'm soon off to have lunch with my former coworkers from Pennylvania House Furniture.  We get together about once a month but I missed it last month.  I was on a airplane on the way to Texas for a wedding.  I'm looking forward to seeing friends again today.

I hope Everyfriend has a day worthy of remembering.  Those are the best!

Merry Monday, Everyfriend,

Janie,  thanks for letting us know about Joan.   I wouldn't have answered the phone if all I saw on the Caller ID was the name of a town.  I really dislike the current trend of using generic ids for personal calling (sorry, Joan).
I also dislike the generic recordings on answering machines and hesitate to leave a message in case I've called the wrong number.
Thus endeth the Snark for the day.

Janie again,   I have several pieces of Pennsylvania House furniture that were the first new pieces we bought after our "basics" when we married in 1958.   Good stuff!!!!

According to the weather gurus,  "Oklahoma City" received over 2 inches of rain last night.  Unfortunately,  I can't tell that any of it fell on my house/yard.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Welcome back to our fold Joan...

Halkel, my life wont be the same without Benji in it....Toby is very much an R dog, doesn't even wag his tale or give me a kiss in the mornings, either ignoring me or when I go to give him a hug he gets away and curls up on Rs bed, where he gets ignored....I shall surely miss that from Benji first thing in the morning, coming into my bedroom to check up on where I am.......and that waggy tail and head twist as he puckers to give me that first morning kiss...

Benji will be the last of our original three...My Petra, our Megan then our Benji....I do also worry how this will affect our Toby, he is a dog who needs another dog around...
....................................
Our weather really is quite hot this afternoon....been out in the back garden trimming the lengthy hedge back, started doing it yesterday...have to do it in dribs and drabs and having to take several rests, just a little more to go up near the far gate end, also have to cut back twigs and branches from stuff on the other side so making a clear pathway leading to end gate....its surprising how long and narrow our garden is, like its never ending, or so it seems....
.....................................
While taking my breaks I was looking out at the grassy hill at our incoming road end, where I was watching a large Red Kite bird hovering, then all of a sudden it swooped down at something it had obviously been watching...my just how large those wings are...I never saw anything in its beak when it took off, but it was there a good minute or two so have no Idea as to what if anything it had caught, just wished I had had my binoculars with me....

Good morning everyone. I finally slept good and still did not want to get up this AM.

JANE  when I was able to cook I did the same as you. I would freeze a lot of meals for the times I was tired getting home from work of feeling lazy.

LLOYD  glad you got that hay in and no accidents to you.

AMY  that poppy seed bread is, wish I could make it again. I wonder if I still have the recipe. Like you I am surprised not to see Joan. I pray she in OK.

JANE  thanks for letting us know about Joan. I know what it feels like not to be able to get in here, just went through that again.

JACKIE  I know how you are feeling about Benji. That is one reason I did not want another pet.

JOAN  glad you are back online. I still have a few things to install and then hope I can enjoy my computer once again. Thank you for today's goodies.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND.

I am so happy to read the post from you, Janie, saying our Bis is fine and will be in as soon as she is up and running again.  It is immediately upsetting when one of our flock does not appear, and we automatactially are fearful that something might be wrong.  So glad we did not have to wait too long to find out Joan is OK.

JACKIE, I was hoping and praying that the news about Benji would be better.  My heart just aches for you as I know how upsetting this is and how lost you are going to be.  I am sorry you are not going to be seeing the expert that you thought and hoped it would be.  I will hold good thoughts that he will prove to be a very competent person and you will find that he will be just as good as the top man!   HUGS.

Enjoy your lunch with your past coworkers, JANE.

Yippee, you are back, JOAN.  sure was good to see your post appear.  Thank you for the nice goodies.

LARRY, your suggestion is correct....short times of care and not these multiple days.  Our time alone is short though as we have a grand dog coming on Friday to spend a week with us.....but she is more a joy than anything.  If the weather is nice, that is! She is like a magnet for anything during inclement weather.

HAL, that is not good news about the water leak.....it never is, but at least it is in an outside wall and not in the slab.

I am off to get a load of wash in the machine....then some deep cleaning is in order.....I can see those demerits flying in already.

Good to see your post, GLORIA.  AT LEAST YOU ARE STILL UP AND RUNNING!

Have a wonderful day.

Janie--It was GREAT to speak to you this morning.  Enjoy your lunch with your Pennsylvania House friends.

Callie--My phone system displays the name of the caller on the phone itself and on my TV--unless it's a robo call.

Vanilla-Jackie--I feel your pain at the thought of Benji being called home.((hugs))

Gloria--I called my guru about 7:30 a.m. and he was here by 10 a.m.  Sure hope that's the end of my trouble.

Lloyd--I'd very much like to get a laptop, but I have some bills that are taking priority.

Jenny--I was NOT a happy camper when I came to my computer at 4 a.m. and found the internet wasn't working.  Guess I'd better get my demerit ledger out.:)

Happy Monday everyone ! May your day be all and more than you hoped for. Mine started off good after a perfect nights sleep. I hope I get done today what I did not get accomplished yesterday……ordering of groceries, and writing of snail mail. There are no programs scheduled for today that I must attend, thanks be to God.

Lloyd, I'm glad you got the haying done without harming yourself. So you re-seed hay, or does it reseed itself. Or does it grow like grass, where it's roots stay in the ground ?

Janie, thank you for sharing your message from Bis with us. I agree with you, re: our being a family. Very definitely.

Hal, what is the age of your "furry" girl? She is surely draping across your lap to be assured of protection from mauling child-size hands. Small children do not understand the gentleness that older animals need on their bodies.

Bis, I am so glad it was computer and problems rather that Bis problems. We truly are a close family here.

We are going for a high of 87 today. Lots of sunshine already bringing too much warmth through my sun room windows. I will keep the blinds tightly closed this morning. I really do prefer winter weather.

Gloria, like you, I had a great sleep, but didn't want to start the day. I will surely go back for a second snooze before too much longer.

Jane, I sure won't be earning any demerits today, I am on the "do very little" list today. And thankful I can do that.

I'm back from lunch.  There were 15 of us from the old office and it's so good to see them all.  One of our ladies started in the office at PA House right out of high school and retired from there.  She will be 90 on her next birthday.  She lives with her niece who brings her to the lunches.  And one of the gals who comes is the mother of my doggie sitter and a friend of my daughter.

You remember I told you some time ago that my bed broke?  Callie and I both had bad luck at the same time.  Well, the gal who organizes these lunches used to be the parts person in my office and I asked her if she knows of anyone who still works on PA House furniture.  She did and she gave me a phone number.  Maybe I can get it fixed and back to work.  We'll see!

Callie, I used to know the numbers for every piece of wood furniture that went out of our factory.  I'm wondering what pieces you have.  Are they wood or upholstered?  It was all made in Lewisburg until sometime in the 70s when upholstery moved to North Carolina.  We got our bedroom furniture when we "went to housekeeping" in 1955 and it's the Mount Vernon finish which they stopped making in the 70s.  I love it!  But I don't move it much any more.  It's solid cherry and very heavy.  Part of my Customer Service territory was Oklahoma and I'm trying to remember the name of the furniture store in OKC.  I might have to get out my book to remind me.  I have a Christmas ornament that someone in the store designed and made for a store giveaway one year and they sent me one.  I remember the sales reps name.  She was one of the few lady reps and she lived in Yukon, OK.

OH well, enough reminiscing.  I better get something done to show I've been here today.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Jane,  oh my, yes, Mathis Bros. is still here.  I think the 3rd generation is running it now.
However, my Pennsylvania House maple corner desk and two cabinets (one with a deep shelf and the other with a drawer above areas with double louvered doors) came from a Pennsylvania House store on west 10th street in Amarillo, Texas - some time between 1959 and 1962.
The computer I'm on right now is on the corner desk and the two cabinets are at my immediate right and left. They're definitely showing their age but I couldn't do without them.
Doubt I could get to the numbers, though.

Hope you find those zzzzzs..

You wouldn't want to take a picture and email it to me, would you?  While I was working there, we did a search for old PA House pieces and we discovered pieces that were manufactured in the late 30's and 40s.  The one lady that was at lunch today had one of the oldest pieces in existence.  She bought it for her parents right after she started to work there.  That would have been in the mid 40s.

Janie--I hope you found those zzz's in the sofa.

Hi halkel.

Callie--With the exception of a couple items, I left all my furniture behind in Arkansas.  Bought new when I came here  8 years ago.

Jeanne Lee--I voted two or three days ago.

Bis, I did very little today. Went downstairs for a nice lunch..brought half of it home for tonight, Caesar salad with a big slab of braised salmon. I also ate a side of mac and cheese, and a large glass of V.8. Planned to do nothing today, but realized I needed to do one load of dark clothing, so got that done, and collapsed on bed with a book. Now I am contemplating ordering groceries, but I think it will go no further than contemplation. I'm content.

I voted on the photo contest. That is always fun, making choices.

Janie, I'm so happy that you had such a good time meeting with your friends. You do have a lot of blessings in your life girl, and you surely deserve them. The oldest piece of furniture I have is my Grandmother's what-not shelf, and an old blue ink well that was part of my Grandfathers desk. Next in line is my Dad's walnut chest of drawers and two dining chairs with carving on the back...a duncan phyfe styling.

Hal, Lady feels more secure on your lap for sure. That is edging on getting old for a dog her size isn't it ? We always had medium sized mixed breeds when i was a kid. They just wandered onto the property as dogs did back then. After marriage, our dogs were small, and each one lived into the teens, as I recall. Children and animals both demanded good care and love, and gave so much pleasure.

Well we go Lady back home, minus her collar. It has to be discarded because of the smell.  But she smells okay.

Good nite everyone, sweet dreams and God bless.

CHUCKLES

There's Nothing the Matter with Me!

There's nothing the matter with me,
I'm just as healthy as can be,
I have arthritis in both knees,
And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze.
My pulse is weak, my blood is thin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.

All my teeth have had to come out,
And my diet I hate to think about.
I'm overweight and I can't get thin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.

And arch supports I need for my feet,
Or I wouldn't be able to go out in the street.
Sleep is denied me night after night,
But every morning I find I'm all right.
My memory's failing, my head's in a spin.
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.

Old age is golden I've heard it said,
But sometimes I wonder, as I go to bed.
With my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup, And my glasses on a shelf, until I get up.
And when sleep dims my eyes, I say to myself, Is there anything else I should lay on the shelf?

The reason I know my youth has been spent, Is my get-up-and-go has got-up-and-went!
But really I don't mind, when I think with a grin, Of all the places my get-up has been.

I get up each morning and dust off my wits, Pick up the paper and read the obits.
If my name is missing, I'm therefore not dead, So I eat a good breakfast and jump back into bed.

The moral of this as the tale unfolds,
Is that for you and me, who are growing old.
It is better to say, "I'm fine" with a grin, Than to let people know the shape we are  in.

I’M FINE.  HOW ARE YOU?

Food For Thought

My Most Precious Possession

In a devotional in the Mississippi Baptist Record in May 1979, Bill Rittenhouse wrote that while on a vacation trip, he found a suitcase on the side of the road. Trying to determine who owned it, he opened the suitcase, only to find the usual items you would expect to find in a man's luggage. There was only one clue as to who the owner was: a white box with a rubber band around it had a $20 gold piece between two layers of cotton inside. Around the gold piece was a band with the words, "Twenty years loyal and faithful service" on one side. On the other was printed "Presented to Otis Sampson by Northwestern States Portland Cement Company." No city was named.

Bro. Rittenhouse mailed seventy-five letters before he received a reply from a Portland Cement Company, saying that several years before there had been a Mr. Otis Sampson in their employment, but that he had retired. They sent his address. Rittenhouse wrote Mr. Sampson to tell him that he had his suitcase. Mr. Sampson replied immediately, identifying the contents. He asked that Rittenhouse dispose of the suitcase and all contents, except the gold piece. Several times in the letter, Mr. Sampson referred to the gold piece as his "most precious possession."

So Bro. Rittenhouse returned the gold piece, and used the opportunity to tell Mr. Sampson of his most precious possession - his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He didn't hear from Mr. Sampson until a year later, when he sent a Christmas box to the Rittenhouse family. Inside the box was a smaller white box with a rubber band around it and the $20 gold piece inside. A note was enclosed, which read:

"Last Sunday my wife and I were baptized in a little church here in Colorado. We want you to have the gold piece to carry with you at all times. We are two old people; I'm 74 years old, my wife is 72. You are the first one who told us of Jesus Christ.  Now He is our most precious possession.

Thought of the Day

“Make no mistake. We are not powerless. We are not too remote and removed to make a difference. And we are not a few. If we would but get over our own quarrels and come together on our knees, seeking forgiveness for ourselves first and our country second, dust would fly. Change would come. And to us first."

Good morning everyone.

Another hot day in the making here. I got some cedar trees trimmed yesterday, one was hogging the space where my flowering crab tree is. Another was over crowding the driveway now both are under control.

Not much on the agenda today.just the usual tiding up.

Joan ,good to see you here..glad your internet is fixed and thank you for breakfast.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was rambling last night.  I couldn't sleep for some reason.  It was another cool night (a low of 64) so it wasn't the heat.  I think it might have been that I was just plain too tired physically to sleep.  Does that make sense?

Right now it's 72º here and heading for a high of only 84 today.  That's not too bad for the end of June.  But we are supposed to have rain for most of the afternoon and evening.  I hope it isn't thunderstorms for the doggies' sake.  They are terrified of thunder.

Amy, you also trim trees?  What DON'T you do, lady?  You are definitely a "Jill" of all trades!  What I'd like to know is, when do you rest?

Thank you for the goodies today, Joanie.  I liked the inspirational reading.  That man was lucky to learn how his words affected someone else.  So often, we don't know that.

The doggies are in the doorway letting me know that they are hungry so I better take care of that problem for the.  Have a lovely day, Everyfriend.

Joan, happy to see you here this morning after yesterday spell of computer trouble....Now blueberries are my favourites to go with my morning brekkie....
..............................
Our morning weather looks off to a good start, don't think I will have time to finish off the hedge trimming, as its 3.pm my MS Neurology Consultant appointment....its only 11.50 am now, so not leaving for an our or two....its a 46 mile round trip journey....I done an AA rout-planner, this time both ways... ;D...which gives both the mileage and time of journey....Of course time of journey is from time of day I print off the route-planner, not necessarily the time we will be venturing out....then of course we have to find the most convenient parking space, outside of the hospital neither of us are familiar with....now if only I had my disabled parking, Blue Badge.... >:(
............................
Poor Benji brought up all his dinner this morning, in the garden...I am assuming nothing to do with his cancer just that we were advised yesterday at vets to wean him off the half of his ordinary tinned food, and half of the prescription diet now...so that's what I gave him this morning...a whole tin of his prescription diet....not any more.....both myself and R have both agreed to put Benji straight back on the half and half......
............................

Edited........Joan, " There's Nothing The Matter With Me...."  :2funny:  :2funny: I've heard it before but many years ago, and of course when I was younger, fitter and healthier.....They say laughter at ourselves is the very best medicine on the market.....As long as we can still laugh, there is still some life in us........
It must be a Pam Ayres.....

Janie--Good morning.  I've had those times when I was so overtired that I couldn't get to sleep.  Glad you liked the reading.

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  I am fond of blueberries, too.  Good luck going and coming from your Neurology Consultant appointment.  Benji let you know he didn't like the dog food mixture you gave him today.  I've seen "There's Nothing the Matter With Me" before, too, but thought it was worth a repeat.

Good morning, Lloyd.  The sun is just coming up here.

Good morning everyone, grandson was here last night. A few more things back where they belong in the PC. A few more and hopefully I will never have to go through this mess again. I will never get another new computer. I can say that HP has been helpful. We had some rain overnight and might have more this morning.

LLOYD  now Bis does to have some sleep at times doesn't she?

JENNY  if I was off line longer you would have heard me screaming across the country.

JOAN  I hope it is the end of PC trouble for both of us. Don't know how much more I can take of this without quitting. I sure miss the tech I used to have.

JUNE  some days after posting here I have gone back to bed and slept for about 3 hours. Feels like the day is over by then. At least the last 2 nights I slept better.

JANE I cannot imagine working at one job all those years. My SIL did though. He started at the place he worked after high school and just retired after more than 40 years. So many of the places I worked went out of business. Maybe I was a jinx.

JOAN  like you the only thins I took from the house we had was what belonged to me. A corner hutch and my Mom's old round pedestal oak table. My daughter has it now and it will be going to Arizona with them. She knows where it will fit in the dining room there. I had no room for it.

JOAN   will enjoy blueberry pancakes this morning. Chuckles today could be about so many of us these days, Love it. Will be sharing this one. Food For Thought is a wonderful story. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  you sure do find a lot of things you have to do. Trimming cedar trees is not fun if they are like the cedar trees around here.

JANE  like you there have been times I was too tired to sleep, more or less just dozed on and off all night.

JACKIE  I wish you the best with this new doctor.

HAL  64° is cool to you but in the lower 50's would be a much better sleeping night for me.

Hi everyone.  It looks like we are going to have another reasonable day going up to 87 but only for one hour.  There is a good possibility of rain in the forecast for this afternoon. Last night we had about 1/2 inch of rain.

We are really looking forward to today as good friends from where we moved are coming for a day visit.  They are very active in the church we attended before we moved, he is the one I bought the PT Cruiser from and his wife is an active quilter and sewer.  He attends the coffee group I used to attend about everyday and he also is a part of the church men's luncheon group.  They are very interesting people and the ones who spend about 6 months a year at their home in Mexico where their son and grandchildren live.  They have a new little dog and will bring Crispy with them as he is a seasoned traveler.

Yesterday I had a pleasant surprise when I called the lumber company that had supplied our windows and found that the replacement panel for half the window will cost only $39.  One of the companies I had called wanted $40 just to come out and see the situation and measure.  I feel that is very reasonable as will be able to lift out the old window and quickly insert the new as these are tip our windows.

This morning as I was watering my flowers I saw 4 little bird heads above the rim of the nest.  They must be growing quickly.

Joan, your humor piece for today is great as is the Food for Thought.  I have sent the humor on to the lady at the church who heads up the Senior's monthly meeting as she sometimes shares something in this vein to start the day.  The Food for Thought I am going to print out and may use it as a devotional one of these weeks.

Enjoyed all the postings since yesterday and hope all will have a really good day.  That is my  plan for today.

Janie--I wish you a "Happy Customers" Day.

Good morning, halkel.  It'd be nice if our temp got that low for sleeping.

Gloria--Good morning.  Sure is nice of your grandson to come and put more things in order on your computer.

Good morning, Phyllis.  PLEASE send some of that rain this way.  There are several wild fires going because it's so dry.

Larry--Good morning.  It's going to be in the 90's here today with triple digit heat index.  It's so nice that your friends from where you lived previously can come for a visit.   They sound like interesting folks.   Glad you use some of the things I post.

Gloria, I worked for the same company for 43 years and 9 months; it was the only place I worked.  I was in several departments (electric utility) and phased out many of them.  Eventually I phased myself out of the company.  It has changed much since I left 30 years ago, and is no longer the “one big happy family” when I was there.  They were good to me and all I ask is that they put my pension in the bank each month.

MaryAnn.   That is a long time to work for one company. You must have been just out of school.

I seemed to put 5 years in and then something else came up. Always the same field. Finance. I did put in 20 years with the last one and retired from there. Took early retirement. 62.  I enjoyed most jobs I had but noticed in the last one which was a large company that as it got to the last few year. Senior owner died. Sons took over and people coming in not the same. I had a division of it as International and 7 with me Mostly from other countries. The rest of the Office area seemed to be back stabbing all the time. Time I got away.. Still miss working though.

June--Hopefully you can nap and get rested.

Mary Ann--I had several jobs during my working career--quite diverse from one another.  I'm sure you were a very valued employee if you were there 43+ years. That's a LONG time.

JeanneP--Unlike you, I worked for many different employers--most very diverse from what I did in the previous one.  I think the job I liked best was my last one before retirement--as an investigator in the Attorney General's office.

JeanneP and Joan, I was 18 when I started my job but I had been out of school a year.  I went to Junior College for a semester and that's when my mother died.  The next fall my dad said I had to return to school or get a job and I chose to get a job.  I never thought I'd work that many years.  I worked in one department 25 years.  Fortunately, I liked what I did, which was office work, and I'm sure if I didn't like it, I would have moved elsewhere.

Working for a utility was interesting too because I got to learn about different phases of the company.  And I got to know a lot of employees because of the various departments where I worked.  From what I hear, it isn't the same company now!  I did not have a college degree (still don't) and I know now I would not be eligible to be hired because even entry level people in the office must have degrees.

I always found it so easy once ready to change. Kept interested for 20 years because I just did the Finance etc for the 4 plants and offices we had in other countries. Lots of Contacting. Now, I bet even you can hear it!  The sofa is literally hollering at me to get in there and remove some of those ZZZs.  It says that too many of them have accumulated and they're getting too heavy to hold.  I think I'll see if I can help old sofa out.

Been back from my Poole hospital appointment a few hours now...all went well but....I shall wait for the follow up letter, one to me, one to my female GP as to what his suggestions are and to what he was prescribing as my options...as its not clear at the moment....Well my bladder has been on overtime, or is that overdrive? today..... Firstly I was bursting for the loo in the car half way there so we stopped off at the first and nearest place where there would be a loo....which was a burger bar in an outdoor shopping precinct.... then of course felt obliged to sit down for a coffee before making the final 4 mile journey into the centre of Poole...then I went again before we left, both times a full bladder'ed wee....Then another two full bladdered wees inside the hospital whilst awaiting being called for my appointment, followed by another full bladder'ed wee in the middle of my 40 minute consultation...no not in the room, but he allowed me time to go out of the room down the corridor...No sooner had I done a wee my bladder kept filling up, just typical on the day I go to see him......Well I now know where the hospital loo is quite well...

Jackie, I remember back when I was pregnant with the twins we were going somewhere with some friends.  I had to make a pit stop and I pointed out a place to my husband.  My friend told me later that her husband asked how I knew that place was there and my husband answered, "She know where every rest room is between home and Timbuctu."  And he's right!

Jeanne P, you are right, I made a blooper... :-[

Guess I was getting mixed up with Cairo Airport...not sure how.... ???

My urinary bleed appointment still hasn't come through, and its now I week overdue to what female Doctor first told me before she forgot to put in my first appointment referral.....If it doesn't come soon I shall be phoning her again asking why....No my bladder problem is to do with my MS, as all MS'ers suffer continence problems, many MS'ers having to self catheterise themselves.......
I have asked that question whether any link...only to get fobbed of with the words of no connection, although I still have my doubts, just have no clue what is going on down there....

Turkey will now be taken off the list of favourite places for Brits to take a holiday. My family loved going there almost every summer and Isn't it Malta where lots go for holidays and can take day trips over to Turkey.  Soon world travel will be stopping by the UK people and they will be back to taking holidays to Bournemouth and Brighton. Up into the Lakes districts  again.  I know when I go over I will no longer go over into Europe.  I have noticed on all the trip now that get sent to me from the Travel agent that I have always used in UK are coming in so Cheap . In safe times I would be going everywhere.

Greece and Turkey are favourites of UK, I have been to both, once, on a short three - four day mini cruise, several years ago....sad really as these countries rely on tourism from UK....

We were blessed with more rain  saves me from watering the garden.
Hal, I would love to help ,I can imagine your oaks are mighty ones too! I just used a long pole with a saw blade on it ,plus it has a spring loaded snip on it. Makes the job easy...I sold my chain saw a number of years back....don't do that anymore.

Jane, one has to be a Jill of all trades to get along in this world.

Lloyd, thank you..loved the video.

Have a good night everyone...time for me to pound my pillow :)

Oh, Lloyd, I also loved that video.... amazing it remembered her 5 years later.  My Callie Cat is about as loving, she follows me like a dog when I'm outside & will sit in the hot garage waiting for me to come out.  Makes me feel so guilty for not letting her in the house... but I can't trust her not to mark her territory & don't know how to explain to her.  Can't make me believe that animals don't have feelings!

My doctor appointments are tomorrow... for EKG & Echo... I don't expect any problems but worry that my cardio Dr will be retiring & I don't want to break in a new one.  Not all will listen to their patients... I won't agree to any "invasive" tests & am lucky my family Dr & the cardio one goes along with my wishes.

I think I hogged all the zzzzzzzzzzzs today, sorry about that.. had a good nap after a good night sleep.  I do think when we are "too tired" we don't sleep sound or restful, so was making up for a week average of about 4-5 hours a night.

Sweet dreams to all and everyone with health problems... prayers your day is better tomorrow.  God Bless!

I am here again. Sort of...feeling sleepy again. I lay back down this morning and woke in time to go for lunch. After I attended a couple of programs I was ready to snooze again, so did. I wonder if I will sleep tonight ?

lloyd, the Lion hug was beautiful ! Thank you for sharing that..

Tisie, I wish you good news on your tests tomorrow. I'm with you on no invasive surgery.  At my age, I feel what will be will be.

Janie, I just can't seem to get enough of those zzzzzz's.  I'm putting it down to age, where you are such a "doer", it is understandable why you tire. The body rules, and there is no use to try and kid it into thinking all is Springtime.

I pray all of you dear friends have a peaceful night and a happy, healthful tomorrow. Big hugs to those that need them, and Love and Prayers to all. June

Good Wednesday morning, Everyfriend.  There's poached eggs and toast to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

CHUCKLES

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult:

I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year old again:

- I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant.
- I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks.
- I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.
- I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.
- I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know - and you didn't care.
- All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that could make you worried or upset.
- I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
- I want to live simple again.
- I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.

So, here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood.

And if you want to discuss this further, you’ll have to catch me ‘cause “Tag.  You’re It”.

Food For Thought

True Love of Christ
(By Steve Troxel)

In the last hours of His earthly ministry, Jesus spoke with His disciples and gave a command which was considered new: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (John 13:34).

Should this command really have been new? Shouldn't the disciples have known they were to love one another? Or is it possible to spend three years with a Master Teacher and yet not understand that learning must translate to action, and that we teach truth by first being an example of truth? If we desire to teach love, we must first be loving; to teach the concept of grace, we must first be gracious; and in order to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19), we must begin by first being a true disciple!

As I continue to study and learn the wonderful truths of God's Word, and as I diligently try to teach these truths to others, I never want to stop at simply being better educated: "Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says" (James 1:22). I'll be the first to admit that I fall short in many ways, but I sincerely strive to make His Word real and apply it in all areas of my life.

Our spiritual growth must never be measured by how much we know, but by how much we are transformed - by how much the Word penetrates to the innermost part of our heart. We have all been blessed by God's love far more than we deserve. We must now better understand this love and then learn how to become His expression of love to others.

Ephesians 3:17-19
"I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge."

The ultimate expression of love was that God gave His Son to an undeserving world so "that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). This is a love we will never fully understand.

Paul had such a deep appreciation for the love contained in God's plan of Salvation through the sacrificial gift of Jesus, that he was often completely overwhelmed; "When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father" (Ephesians 3:14 NLT). When we begin to truly grasp His love, all we can do is say, Thank You!

Let's pray for a greater understanding of His love and then return His love through a devoted life of worship. Let's make His love real by demonstrating love to those He places in our path. Let's begin to grasp, and then give back and share, the true love of Christ.

Have a Christ Centered Day!
-Steve

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think my dogs are still on standard time.  We seem to be getting up around 5 every morning.  Oh well, I guess that's better than 4.

Joanie, thanks for the goodies.  I think I want to be 8 again, too.  Wouldn't it be nice if we could try that out!  Just occasionally take a vacation back there.

Have we heard from Joy lately?  I don't remember seeing her here.

Good morning everyone..

I love wildlife, all of it ,but there is a robin that sings rather loudly outside my bedroom window starting at 5 am or earlier.I do wish he/she would sing else where!

Finished the last of the camp quilts yesterday so now I can move on to something else. Have two other projects on the go and would like them done also.

Jane ,good morning, enjoy your day.

Joan,thank you for breakfast.

Good Wednesday morning, it is now pelting down with rain, and so gray looking outside....so much for what they call..." Flaming June..." no sun flames to be seen....

LLoyd Hammond, wow seeings believing, brought tears of joy, pure love, and happiness to my eyes, how did that Lion remember her after a five year absence...and they say animals don't have feelings or memories....

Edited.. Joan, re, your today's chuckles...." I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant...." It was a MacDonald's we popped into yesterday (the loo ) and for a coffee, I can tell you that that was no 4 star restaurant....there were a young couple of mothers with children that I have never seen so much mess of there rubbish scattered on the floor, ( paper cups, bags, foodstuff and chips scattered ) yet when they got up to leave they never cleared the rubbish with them, just left it...also the table and chairs we sat in ( all seemed to be the same..) were such a tight squeeze to get into, they were the jointed to the ground non movable table and seating bench, such a tight squeeze, I cant see how anyone would be comfortable eating there food from there, I know I wouldn't....I had to sit with my legs to the side...while my stomach was pushed into the table...

Good morning, Janie.  Maybe we could all try being 8 for a day?:)  I don't believe Joy has been here lately.  I hope she is OK.

Amy--Good morning.  Maybe you need some ear plugs so that robin doesn't wake you up.  You sure get those quilts done fast.  It's nice to have projects ongoing, I think.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I was sometimes cranky as an 8 year old and sometimes I am now, too.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  People who go to a fast food restaurant and don't make children behave and also don't pick up after themselves have no respect for others, IMO.

When I see children misbehaving in a restaurant or people not picking up after themselves, I think of a guy I knew in highschool.  He would have said "He ain't got no 'couth. Guess ha ain't had no bringins up".  I think a lot of kids today "ain't had no bringins up".

Oh my goodness !   Jane and Joan,  thanks so much for missing me.

Yes, I am still around.   I had a real bad sinus infection several weeks ago and I didn't feel like doing anything.  I just coughed and coughed and coughed.   I finally was able to get a doctor's appt. and got an antibiotic,  and it did help.  But, I was just exhausted from all the coughing.  I am feeling fine now..... just still slow moving.

I did  not even feel like doing much on the computer for a while.  BUT, I did visit S & F and did keep up with what was going on.

It is really so nice to have been missed.

I live in a retirement complex and for a good while I have not participated in much of the activities here.  There is a lot of complaining and so much negativity that goes on, that I just don't want to listen to this sort of thing.  However, since I have gotten to feel better, I decided that maybe I needed to get out of my apartment and do a little something.  I was being encouraged to come down and join in some of the games. So, for the past week or so, I have been "making" myself try to be a little more active.  About 8 of us have been playing Mexican Train (with dominoes) .   It is fun and I do find myself feeling a lot better.  And, with the weather being nice, have been sitting outside in the evenings.  It seems there is just several residents who like to make everyone miserable, like they are. However, the ones who sit outside are not like that.  We all do try to solve the world's problems,  but we don't seem to get very far.

Anyway, I am feeling lots better and really appreciate having been missed. I will try to do better about posting.

It is a beautiful morning and supposed to be a nice week end ahead.  My family and I will be enjoying some good Maryland steamed crabs over the week end.  This will be our first ones this season.

Hope everyone will have a wonderful day.

Joy

Good to see you, Joy, and to know that you are doing better.  I know what you mean about all of the negativity.  Unfortunately, it seems to be a sign of old age in some people.  It is always easier to complain and find fault than it is to get up and do something positive. I love hearing from the positive people but not from the negative ones.....they depress me.   :(

It looks like the rain has gone and we may have some sun today.  That will brighten things up in my part of the world.

Thanks, Phyllis.  It does seem that some people thrive on wanting to be miserable and make others around them miserable also.

Most of the residents where I live are very nice, but it only takes one or two to ruin things and try to make everyone miserable along with them.

It is basically a nice place......... nothing like the place where June lives.  It is an old elementary school that has been converted into senior apartments.  It is hard for me to believe that I have been here almost 9 years.  And, a lot of changes in that time period.  The majority of the residents are very nice.  The activity director really tries to think of different activities, but they are very poorly attended.   It doesn't take long for somebody to start complaining about "something" and then the attendance begins to drop off.

A lot of people don't have anything else to do, so they start complaining.

Joy

Joy, that is sad to listen to others complaints about various activities that go on, yet don't have the sense to go along and attend them themselves, to find out for themselves whether these complainers complaints were - are justified.....Some people just don't have the intelligence of having a mind of their own, do they?....Glad you had the sense to join in and participate with them, and you did actually enjoy yourself....

Ha ha, think these people would be the first to complain if there were no activities left for them to join.....due to bad attendance...

Janie--Those are both good sayings your friend used.:)  I hope all the shoppers at WM today are wearing a smile.

Good morning, Joy.  Glad to hear you are feeling better.  I know when I get out with a group I usually enjoy myself--for me a little diversion is good.  Oh my--I love steamed crabs.  PLEASE put some in the "hidey hole".

Phyllis--Good morning.  You're wishing for sun, and I am wishing for rain.  Here's hoping both of our wishes happen.

Vanilla-Jackie--We have quite a few people in this gated community who go to the general meetings and do nothing but complain.  It's refreshing to listen who have something constructive to offer.

Good Morning Everyone!

Joy, an old expression, some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.

Well, it blew and blew hard and got dark cloudy, some thunder but nary a drop of rain.  But woke this morning and the patio was wet, so got a shower sometime during the night.  We had a "cold" front move in to the North of us which caused some disturbance.  Not really a cold front, more of a plain old front although it did have some cool breezes.

Janie, happy customer day.  Hope no one spoils you day.

Jackie, sounds like it will be a good day to sit and read just sit and relax.  Do you have a view of the ocean? Where you can see the waves breaking on the shore?

Lloyd, wonder if that old Lion was just sniffing and thinking if the lady would make a nice little snack.  Just kidding.  There may have been bars between them but those claws could have done her in.

Speaking of which, I have to get busy and find our medical power of attorneys, my wife's doctor wants a copy....Hmmmmmm.

Joanie, can believe you are ever cranky.

Halkel, re, your " complaints procedure..."...." new rope..." ;D

Halkel no we cant see the sea from where our parksite is, but it wouldn't be far out of the long private driveway, then drive up towards the high clifftops carpark to overlook the vast area of sea....

Joan, I cant understand when people don't go to find out the facts for themselves....instead of just listening to others...just because one has a bad experience doesn't mean others will....you have to find it out for yourself...

Hi everyone on an overcast morning but now am beginning to see some blue sky.  Again today we are looking at staying under 90 degrees and there is no rain in the forecast.  I have a quiet day planned.  I don't know whether we will take Scott out for dinner or Pat will decide to fix something here. That will likely be the big decision of the day.

We had a wonderful time with our friends who visited here yesterday.  It was like we had never been apart but we have stayed in touch with occasional emails over the months.  We enjoyed having their 1 year old small dog, Crispy, here for the day.  It was very well behaved.  We went to Cheddar's for lunch and then, because of a long traffic backup on I-20 due to some construction on the east bound lanes at the Savannah River Bridge, we struck off from the restaurant and went downtown.  We drove through some beautiful old home neighborhoods featuring large homes and streets lined with crepe myrtle trees that are now in full bloom over here.

Mary Ann, the longest I worked in one office was nine years and I was getting pretty tired of the same thing over and over.  In two stints I worked a total of 10 years in Atlanta and 7 years in Washington, DC.  I looked at each new job as a challenge to myself to learn new things and take on new responsibilities.  I have now been retired for 21 years and certainly would not want to be working today, although know if I were it would be OK.

JeanneP, my career was 10 years as an auditor, which in truth didn't use much of my accounting training, and then I went into Administration for the next 25 years.  I did enjoy most of the time I worked as was surrounded by dedicated professional engineers and supporting professionals and support staff.  I would have liked to work several more years but I was not physically up to doing that.

JeanneP, I agree that having to face going to work everyday at a job you hated with be sheer torture.  It sounds like you had some interesting work.

Jackie, glad that long day with the doctor's appointment is behind you.  Glad it went well for you.

JaneS, your knowing where every rest room was located sounds like my wife with her quilt shops and knowing where they are located.  Unfortunately, she doesn't feel much like exploring them anymore, although has enjoyed going to a big JoAnn's store over here as it is a lot bigger than the one from where we came, which had been downsized.  She has located a couple of other places here but they are relatively small, but nice shops.

The news this morning about the Istanbul Airport attack is much worse than they indicated yesterday afternoon soon after it happened.  All of this must be playing havoc with a lot of tourism throughout the world.  However, if we live our lives in fear then the bad guys win as that is the purpose of these senseless massacres.

Amy, it sounds to me that you are indeed a "Jill of all trades" with wide and varied interests. We also have some happy birds around our house who love to sing early in the mornings.  The four little birds in the next are growing by leaps and bounds and I can see a change each day as their little heads appear higher over the nest, especially when the mother bird is there to feed them.

Jackie, when I see people go off from a restaurant leaving a mess behind for an employee to pick up I have to wonder what their homes must look like.  Joan, you sure have it right on the lack of respect for themselves or others.  You can't blame the kids if the parents are teaching them right and wrong.

Joy, glad you are feeling better.  It is too bad the folks in your retirement community can't appreciate what they have rather than complaining so much.  I expect we have all read the story about the blind man who moved to a retirement community and when he went into his new living area he commented how much he loved it.  When asked how could he know because he couldn't see he said it was based on his attitude that he knew when he went he was going to love it.

Joy, Pat and I played Mexican Train with two other couples for a number of years.  We would go out to eat and then come back and play for a couple of hours.  As we were all getting older and night driving was becoming a real concern for the other couples who were older than we were at the time, we moved it up earlier in the afternoon and played the game and then went to eat and got home before dark. Unfortunately, one of the ladies has now passed away and the other lady is deep into dementia and one of the men is close to blindness.  However, we did have good times together.

Shirley, I feel I have lucked out on my new cardiologist as she is very pleasant, easy to talk with, and indicates she is conservative in her prescribing producers.  My wife, son also see her and really like her.

Phyllis, I try to surround myself with positive people.  Fortunately, I am not given to many bouts of depression and if I do get to feeling down it doesn't last very long.

Good morning, halkel.  I can be cranky, but do try to keep that "under wraps".

Jackie--Seems some don't have the sense they were born with.

Larry--Good morning.  I think it so great that you still get together with your former neighbors.  Unfortunately my former neighbors live almost 2,000 miles away--much too far for a day trip and they don't care to fly here.

Larry, in my long years at the utility, I worked in several departments.  I was in the appliance department 25 years and it was a one-girl office.  My duties were varied so were not monotonous.  Other assignments  took me to departments I was unfamiliar with, so was able to learn more about the company. I worked in the Line Department office, for instance, and in my last job, among other things, I was responsible for the phones, radios and pagers.  Sometimes I had to walk from one end of the building to the other - and it was a long building.  At no time did I have a repetitive job.  There are times I wish I had a job, but I really don't because I am enjoying my retirement.

I feel if the terrorists manage to discourage tourism, they'll find somewhere else to target.  I wish they'd use their talents for something constructive.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND.

Beautiful day that is to get pretty hot with the chance of storms that could include hail. Love the rain, of course, but that darn hail is so distructive!

My dear friend was in a panic yesterday as there is a terrible fire that is burning with vengeance near her 2nd home in N. Arizona.  She is in Wyoming, and feels hand tied.  Last I heard they were keeping ahead of it and no home have been destroyed.  They evacuated within 3 blocks of her place.  Interstate 17 was closed in both directions due to the fire right at the roads edge.  What a nightmare that must have been for travelers.

JACKIE, happy you have the doc appointment behind you and I just hope they can all get there facts together and give you some answers and a good plan of attack.

JOY, I, too, am happy to see your post.  Sorry you were not feeling well, but happy to see you are doing much better now.

Thank you, JOAN, for our goodies today.  I guess we all could use being 8 again with the carefree ways of a child that age.  Not sure I would want to stay though as our world is sure not in a very happy place right now.

We are starting to feel more rested now....however, I am feeling quite silly as I think of my actions that come out when one is tired and stressed!  Bad me!

LARRY, nice to read that you enjoyed a fun time with your friends. Enjoy what ever your day will bring.  Our big decision each day is the same as yours...do we eat in or out and where will we go if it is out?  I would say we are pretty lucky to have that decision to make, don't you agree?  Enjoy your time with Scott.

SHIRLEY, best of luck at your appointment today.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND, or evening for you, Jackie.

Good Morning from another sunny day in the Interior! My chives, marjoram, and parsley have sprouted on the balcony, and Farrah is making herself at home, albeit cautiously but that is simply now her nature!

This last spring, we disbanded three of the committees here that were devoted to making items for children and two to help people with paperwork, taxes, or rides and other issues. We had gotten tired of the same blame finding and inertia. No one else has stepped in to start new although we have been told, people are upset we stopped.

This building is one of seven locally and is five floors with a total of 195 apartments. Besides the five to ten people who spend time each day in the main common area for the coffee and snacks or the five to ten who spend the day outside, gardening in their plots or the area's dog park, there aren't that many who go to the scheduled events. It is the same with the building councils, one for each floor and one in total. They are often criticized but rarely attended.

We used to have large, well-attended buffets and dinners for holidays or simply monthly dinners, but it got expensive, so it changed to potluck only with the company providing accessories and the main food item. Now folks are complaining that they have to bring something to get in, and I expect that may soon end as well. As one who used to be on many committees, I grew tired of complaints and stopped volunteering as did many others, while waiting for others to continue which has yet to happen.

So I guess I am one of the negative ones or simply no longer care for the negativity of others.

I am in here to day to complaine, as there is no one else to listen to me, and you are a captive audience.  I got in the shower this morning, and got only cold water, eeeeeeeeeeeeeee.  Next I went to check the other bathroom, and the rug in front of that door was soaking wet, also the closet. When I put my hearing aids in I heard water gushing. I have another broken pipe.  Called the office, they said they would send someone right away, it is now after 11 and still one,
I have a 1PM appointment at the hematologist for my regular shot.  I know my BP will be up.
Hug to all my friends for listening.

Good morning everyone, the wonderful sunny and dry weather we had is over. Raining overnight again and I have the AC on the dehumidify setting. Only have my PSP to install again and I should be all set once again except for betting my contacts in again. This is the third time in 4 months that I have had to reinstall every thing. At least the other 2 times I had time to export everything to the external. Wish now I had never deleted that folder.

MARY ANN  when I worked a Tupperware there were a few that started there when they opened the factory. We all though we would work there till we retire but then them moved everything to one of the southern states. Now that huge building we were in is made into condos.

JOAN  like you I worked in many different things. I started at Coro Jewelry, at that time one of the biggest around-out of business now and the building in now the Blue Cross offices. Ended where they made electric circuits. That was interesting.

LLOYD  that lion looked so happy hugging that lady. He sure remembered her. Dumb animals? No way.

AMY  I know what you are talking about with the pole and the snipers. Both my sons have them.

SHIRLEY  like you I know animals are no dumb. Not only the elephants can have long memories. Glad you finally got some good sleep. Now for good news from your tests.

JOAN a poached on toast will taste so good for a change. Just copied today's Chuckles. Made me think of when I was that age and just enjoying every day having fun. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Wasn't it Dr. Spock who said don't spank your children, it is bad for their self image. Some parents listened and let their kids do what they wanted, Now those grown up  kids let their kids do as they want so no manners or respect for others is getting worse.

JOY  good seeing you back. Hope you are well on the way to feeling better now. When I moved here 2 years ago there was a lot going on. Now in the evenings no one sits out anymore and no meals in the kitchen. Really changed. The lady who started every thing going is not well and no one else does anything.

PHYLLIS  there are a couple here I stay away from because all they do is complain or want to gossip. I rather stay in here with my computer.

HAL  we had rain overnight the last 2 nights, no idea how much. A dark gloomy day here.

LARRY  always great seeing old friends again.

PATRICIA  occasionally we have a potluck  here but there are some who never bring or supply anything. They go and eat like they are starving. Several are getting tired of those freeloaders. I cannot cook anything but make sure I contribute something.

Good Morning all, Another bright and sunny day here, a high of 88. Had a good nights sleep, and looking forward to seeing my son Gary, and here his teachings of the Bible. He is a good speaker, and I am not alone in my thinking..many folks have remarked on his talents.

Joy, it is SO good to see you posting again. And I hope you continue to feel better and better as each day passes. I'm glad you have friends that enjoy sitting outside in the evening and chatting. That can be so companionable and relaxing. I lived for nine years in my facility in Hemet, and I still miss seeing their faces. But moving here was the best choice for me. I am making many new friends, and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Many of us have felt that way.

Bis, I found all of todays postings you gave us enjoyable and agreeable. Thanks dear.

Amy, I would love to have your Robin wake me in the morning. I don't know why we have so few birds here. We have huge trees of various types, flowers, bushes, water, and peace and safety. I see the birds fly over but they do not stay. Humming birds are the most common variety, but I haven't seen or heard a Robin since I Ieft Mn. And they were a very common bird back there.

Linedancer, I am so very sorry to hear about your water leak..that can be so damaging and it takes a long time to clean up. I am surprised your management is waiting so long to respond. I wish you peace in this bad mess you have o face.

It is nine o'clock and time for me to get ready for the day. Will return later to check up on you all, so be good and be happy. June

Gloria, here, they have someone at the door to make sure people bring something or they don't get in. The company has seven buildings here and more in other Alaskan cities, so expenses are probably watched carefully. People are worried about keeping the coffee and snacks 24/7 in the main kitchen, but this is an apartment building and not set up as a home for us. So what can we expect?

Gloria de, if not here, where can you complain and expect people to hear you? I would let management know of your appointment and become upset over their being late with no call.

Mary Ann--Some of my jobs I enjoyed--others not so much.  However, I am glad to be retired.

Angelface--It seems whenever there's a group of people, there will always be some who complain.

Linedancer--Sorry about the broken pipe and that the repair person didn't show up when he was supposed to.  I hope your BP isn't sky high when you see your hematologist.

Gloria--Gradually you are getting that PC set up the way you want it.  I remember Coro--it was nice costume jewelry.  Yes.  Dr. Spock said don't spank your children.

June--I know you are proud of Gary and his manner of preaching.  Glad you liked today's "stuff".

I've just about decided to hire someone to do my house cleaning.  I searched and found three or four companies in the Albany area - but I'm too far north for them.  One company works out of Glens Falls - but I'm too far south for them.   :baaa:

So then I looked up individuals and found a dozen or more in the area.  But if I hire one of them I'd be required to keep records and pay their income tax and social security (and health insurance?).  So maybe I'll just have to stay dirty.   :(

Jeanne Lee--I've had cleaning people for about 20 years.  I pay in cash and keep no records......don't pay any taxes or insurance.  Mine are bonded and self-insured.

Probably around 7 to 8pm I decided leg was calm enough to want to go downhill for a walk...R just in after evening dogwalk, brought dogs in, then went with me, straight out again..R said he had just met new couple just moved into their brand new parkhome at last it was up and ready for them....I saw the couple at the bottom of the slope so made a beeline to introduce myself...what a lovely couple they were....they have three small rescue dogs of mixed ages......This elderly yet fit looking couple seem so friendly and down to earth, kitted out in country wellies, fleeces and wax jackets, just the typical couple to own and exercise three very friendly and very affectionate dogs who were eagerly awaiting getting indoors to receive their evening treats...I spoke to them first by saying..." so we are not the newby's any more...." that kindof broke the Ice...then came the friendly handshakes, followed by our names, theirs being Pam and Nigel...Well both us ladies have the same one thing in common...we both have the pecking order in place....dogs first, then Nigel, I said yes, same here, pointing to R, saying R knows where his place is too, has done for years.......R laughed in agreement...we all stood there and chatted for quite some time, so easy to get on with, I like this couple...
Its also very nice down the bottom, more high trees and more woodland, where they said since they moved in they have seen fox and badger and of course several rabbits, I have seen rabbits but not fox or badger yet....we have both seen deer...

Sure has been quiet here in the SS this afternoon.

I'm just getting around to visiting.  I came home from work so tired that I didn't want to do anything.  I let the doggies out, gave them their snack and had my lunch and then I zonked.  I happened by the sofa and the zzzs just up and grabbed me!  They insisted that I join them so I did.  That was about 2:30.  I woke up at 4:30 and had some things to do so I'm just getting in here now.

It sounds like you've all been busy and enjoying your day...everyone with the exception of Gloriade.  I hope your leak is fixed by now and everything is dried up and back to normal.

Jenny, I have days when I'm so tired that I think it's time to quit working....or quit caring for Kiran...or quit whatever.  But most of the time a good nap or a good night's sleep puts a different perspective on the whole thing and I give it another chance.  I'm sure you will still give time to your sweet grands and they will grow up loving both of you and someday, they will even be grateful for your care.  I think fondly of my grandparents who cared for us when I was little and sometimes I wish I could tell them that I'm sorry for being such a handful and probably wearing them to a frazzle.

I was asked the same question but two different customers today.  When the first one asked, I decided that it was because he was pretty sure he knew me and he did.  But the second one had no idea who I was.  They both asked me if I was still working because I had to or because I want to.  My answer was the same to both of them...."A little bit of both".  The first gentleman graduated 2 years ahead of me in my sister's class and we shared some mutual memories of high school  That was nice.  The second one commended me for being able to enjoy my job and cautioned me to "stay hydrated"  on these hot days.  I wonder it this means that I'm finally beginning to look my age.  Or maybe it means that everyone else who works there looks so much younger than I do.  I hope that's it.  Of course, I do have a mirror and I know what I look like.

Enjoy your evening Everyfriend!  Today was a pretty good day!

Gary gave me some big hugs before he started his class, and he looked well rested after the vacation he and Dori had in Ihaho. His teaching was really great. I'm so very proud of him. He had an appointment at 11:30 so couldn't stay to visit, but I had take some mail down for him to go through. Anything I have a question about, I save for him to read and suggest what to do. What a blessing that is.

Then it was time for lunch. I joined some friends on the patio for lunch..a bacon wrapped grilled hot dog....delicious. some french fried sweet potato sticks, two glasses of iced rootbeer, and a mango mousse for dessert. Lots of good conversation, then on to a program in the club house. Finally back home to read and snooze. Live is Super Good.

Janie, you have such an "out-going" personality, I'm sure you would miss your work at WM. When you reach to point of being too tired, rather that quit, it would be nice if you could just have less hours, or fewer days. I am sure the company would want to keep you as long as possible.

I was hoping Gloria de would be in with information on the water leak. I sure hope it isn't going to be a big problem. We don't need that at our age. At the same time, it may be just the nudge needed for her to have a nice care facility, like a few of us have.

A storm went through about 5 but missed this area. Not far from here they had over an inch of rain in 20 minutes. They showed the street flooding on the news at 7. We had bright sunshine here at that time.

PATRICIA  when I go to one of the potlucks here we always know a couple of weeks ahead when they plan to have one. I will send my CNA to the store for coffee and milk, napkins and things like that. I will give that to the president of the committee and she will put it away till needed. They had locks on soe of the doors in the big kitchen where they put things to keep. There are only a few that will go in and take anything they want. We all pretty well know who they are but never say anything. Any food left on the table in the kitchen is for anyone to help themselves. There is a sign to clean up after yourself but someone will leave an empty cake dish on the table and cake crumbs all over.

JOAN  still catching up on email. That is one thing I don't enjoy being in PSP groups for.  I like seeing what they do ad at time will save some of the tuts for stationery. I really enjoy making that. After my CNA left I went out and sat on the porch with a few other for a couple of hours. No PSP installed yet. Felt I needed to just get away from this machine.

JEANNE LEE  I doubt your home is dirty. If so blame it on all the time you spend here helping everyone.

JANE  2 hours of zzz's, good you might be caught up on them now.

JUNE  the only thing  you had for lunch that would have tempted me is the mango mousse. I love mangoes.

It is nice and cool in here now with the AC on so I just might go to bed early for a change and maybe tomorrow I will get everything installed again.

Good night everyone.

Gloria, I rarely eat meat, but the hot dogs they have here are SO tasty, so I indulged today. Had a light supper of peanut butter on soda crackers, fresh apple chopped up, cake and ice cream for dessert. I am stuffed and getting sleepy. I will take my last walk to the mail boxes and go for an early bed and book.

I bid you all a very Good night, a peaceful sleep and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June

Well its now Thursday morning for me, been up since my usual time of 5.15am, its now almost 7am....I got a bit tearful first thing, as usually our Benji walks the length from the living room, along the lengthy hallway into my bedroom, always with a waggy tail and a bum swivel from side to side, a typical happy to see you type of dog...I as usual made a great fuss of him, his head turning sideways ready to give me my first morning kiss....only I know his time is now limited to a possible two months, maybe lucky to be more, as he now has a fast growing cancer....I just became very tearful to think this will all end for us very soon, no more waking up to his waggy tail, no more bum swagging from side to side in happiness, no more of his kisses.....and worse is, he has no Idea he wont be here with us much longer, its like for him, he hasn't got a care in the world....

Looks like I could not sleep so here I am. Was going to install PSP but went to the Card Shoppe and caught up on all they have been doing. Great to see Phyllis and Patricia (Angelface) back to creating some beautiful work again. Thought I would check here because who knows how long I will sleep once I get into the land of nod.

JUNE  I wouldn't mind having a hotdog cooked on a grill but minus the bacon. That I like fried nice and crisp.

JANE  I agree with your God Bless us Every One, our families and friends, especially those with health problems.

JACKIE  I knew my son's dog, the one I called my shadow when I was at their home, was slowing down but when my DIL called me and told me she had to take him to the vet and he was sent over the Rainbow Bridge I cried for a week. Still tear up when I think about her.

Guess I will try and catch some zzz's and hope this time I will sleep.

Good Thursday morning, Everyfriend, on this last day of June.  There's assorted bagels  to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

CHUCKLES

The Funeral

A priest, a rabbi, a doctor and a lawyer are gathered at a mutual friend's graveside to mourn his passing.

The priest says to the others, "I think our good friend would have liked to take something with him to his next life." He pulls a $100 bill from his wallet and drops it on the casket.

The rabbi agrees, "That's a fine idea," and drops his own $100 bill on the casket.

The doctor, not to be outdone, does the same.

The lawyer murmurs, "What a wonderful thought," as he gazes down at their friend's casket. Whipping out his pen, he quickly writes a check for $400, drops it into the grave and takes the three $100 bills as change.

Food For Thought

Parable in Action: The Good Samaritan
(Author Unknown)

Tim Hansel tells of a seminary professor who set up his preaching class in an unusual way. He scheduled his students to preach on The Good Samaritan. One by one they were to go from classroom to classroom, preaching love and compassion for others. Some students had 10 minutes between classes, but others had less time, which forced them to rush in order to meet the schedule. Each of the students had to walk down a certain corridor and pass by a "beggar" who had been deliberately "planted" there by the professor.

What happened was a powerful lesson! The number of would-be-preachers who stopped to help this man was extremely low, especially those who were under the pressure of time! Rushing to preach their sermon on The Good Samaritan, they all walked right past the beggar at the heart of the parable!

Today I read again these words: "I was hungry and you formed a humanities club to discuss it. I was imprisoned, but you just complained about the crime rate. I was naked, and you debated the morality of my appearance. I was sick and you thanked God for your health. I was homeless and you preached to me about the shelter of God's love while neglecting my practical needs. You seem so holy and so close to God; but I'm still hungry, lonely, cold and in pain. Does it matter?"

Good Thursday morning Joan, almost noon here.....

I am part waiting in for an organic delivery box from a company I haven't used yet called Goldhill....Also waiting in for dog food from Lily's Kitchen, my usual supplier, I have left instructions that if I am out where they can leave them but I would like to be in to meet the delivery driver who will be my regular organic box, if I order from them again, to meet him and say say hello....This box is running alongside my usual Tuesday organic delivery box from Riverford, I am just inquisitive to compare differences between their produce...I have on order from both boxes this week of fresh sugar snap peas and fresh apricots, they have also promised me some fresh blueberries will be placed free in my box as a new customer.....the only place to go out to today is the seamstress who is altering my three garments, no specific time, just today has been given as my earliest pick-up for collection day...all I need do is to phone her to tell her when we are on our way....

Jane S, thats one thing I have never done, yet, is to " pick your own..." these places advertise from open farmland, you pick your own and pay for what you bring home, be it, strawberries and raspberries, of course now I am not in a fit state to go up and down through isles, but I would still love to go collect a punnet or two, bet there's nothing better than freshly picked berries that are chosen and picked by our own hands.......There was a time I would go out and pick wild grown blackberries from the bushes...

Amy, have a safe journey to hubby's city hospital...hope the day doesn't become too long for you, with no unexpected traffic hold-ups....

Gloria, you were up and about with me this morning, or was it night-time for you, anyway hope you did manage to go back to bed and get some more shut eye...

Where is Lloyd Hammond?

Amy--Good morning.  Travel safely and best wishes for good results from your husband's tests.

Good MOrning Everyone!

I see everyone is up and going about their usual.  Janie, I would love to be able to pick some berries.  But I am afraid I would get down and not get back up... :D
Do they furnish milk to go with the berries.  Nothing like a bowl of berries with fresh milk poured over them.

Jackie, hope your veggies are nice and fresh an crisp.  My daughter did belong to a club that got fresh veggies right off the truck.  I guess she still belongs, she hasn't mentioned it lately.  You were speaking about Benji and not knowing what was to transpire, I think we are all like that.  I have had two friends that were here one minute and gone the next.

Lloyd the rain just keeps on passing us by and now they say nothing but hot weather lies ahead.  Suppose to get into the 100's in the next few days.  Summer, along with the usual high that parks itself over Texas is here for sure.

Joanie, how true you little story about the new preachers.  It seems, like they say, always have good intentions but fail to deliver.

Well I have to start moving, got men's bible study and breakfast this morning.

Amy you and hubby have a safe trip, hope his test get good results.

Hi everyone.  It has been a long night as awoke at 2:30 and was never able to go back to sleep.  Nothing bothering me and guess it was just one of those nights that I seem to be having more often.  It looks like it is going to be another nice day only getting up to 91 degrees this afternoon.

This will be my usual Thursday morning with coffee with the guys and then to the church for the Wisdom group.  Yesterday evening Pat, Scott and I went to a Chinese Buffet that has a Hibachi grill for dinner.  I didn't have the Hibachi but ate from the buffet but Pat had the Hibachi and was pleased.

Jenny, sure hope your friend's home escapes those terrible fires.  I hadn't heard of the fires in N. Arizona.  I see you all have the same problem Pat and I have in trying to decide where to go eat.  I am pretty sure we will eat at home this evening.

Patricia, it seems with every group of people there are the doers and the takers and the folks who don't complain and those that do.

deAngel, sorry that you experienced water problems.  Hope they got the problem fixed for you yesterday but you are left with the mess of getting things dried out.

Gloria, I don't think Doctor Spock did anything to improve society.  Our children were raised knowing there were boundaries and misdeeds had consequences.

Jackie, always nice to meet new neighbors and glad you like the couple.  You have a bond already because of the love of dogs.  It must be nice to get fresh produce delivered to your door.  As far as I know we have no such services here.

Hal, if I have milk on fresh berries I want it to come in the form of ice cream.

I'm here...not as bright and early as some of you but I made it!  Sun is shining this morning but we had more severe thunderstorms last night.  Quite a bit of hail and wind damage north of us but we only had rain....lots of rain.  Rain is a good thing but too much of it is getting a little tiresome.  Not complaining!  Just sayin'.   ::)

Jane, I would love some fresh blackberries on my granola this morning.  If it isn't too much trouble could you remove the seeds for me?  Thank you soooo much!

Jeanne Lee, according to tax code, if the house cleaner is self-employed you do not have to report taxes.  It is up to the house cleaner to report them as income.  see here:

http://work.chron.com/tax-rules-employing-housekeeper-10188.html" Housekeeper Tax Rules.

Off to the grocery store....that chore seems to come around all too often.

Take care, everyone, and be happy today.

Joy--I thank you so much for agreeing to put some of those steamed crabs in the "hidey hole".

Good morning, halkel.  We're waiting and waiting to get some rain, but all we've gotten for weeks is HOT and HUMID!!

Larry--Good morning.  Sorry you had one of those sleepless nights.  Like you, if I have berries I want them in ice cream.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Weather patterns are sure fickle.  They keep saying we'll get rain, and we get it within a few miles, but none here.  What are you going to "gather" today?

I have a fellow coming in about an hour to do some body work on my car.  He's going to fix the scratches that my CNA got on my car's rear bumper when she backed out of my driveway and hit a vehicle parked in the road at the house across the street.

Hal, I like berries in milk too, but I also like them with ice cream.  I remember one time I had no milk, so put ice cream on my cereal and let it melt - it was vanilla ice cream, by the way.

I'm wondering - does anyone else like strawberry short cake with milk?  We always had it that way; we'd have a Jiffy Mix shortcake, bake it in a round tin, split it and put butter in the middle, then add strawberries, cut pieces for everyone and put milk on it.  Makes my mouth water just thinking of it.  It helps to have some of the strawberry juice, too.  I never found out if this was an English custom or Danish.

Good morning, well I finally slept and now ready to enjoy the day. Already 78° according to TV and a blue sky again, not humid like yesterday.

JOAN  a lightly toasted blueberry bagel/cream cheese will be great about now. The Funeral, sounds like some lawyers. There are some like that but not all, there are some honest ones. Seems these days people are in too much of a hurry and so self centered the pay no attention to being a Good Samaritan. Thank you for all today's goodies. Just wondering how log ago it was when I found your Busy Nest and started enjoying your morning goodies. It was not long after I first got a computer, must be at least 25 years. You sure have spent a lot of time on your own looking for all you have posted for our enjoyment. I thank you for all those years that I have enjoyed and saved and shared so much of what you posted.

JANE  you plan on making jam with those black raspberries after you eat half of what you pick?  Nothing as tasty as home made jams and jellies.

AMY  good luck to your hubby on the tests today. Safe trip.

JACKIE  yes I finally had a few hours of good sleep and feel wide awake now.

LLOYD  good morning.

JOY  good morning. I never had steamed crabs, only crab  I had was from cans or years ago the king crab legs. Think I missed something yummy.

HAL  I remember breaking up slices of bread into a bowl adding blueberries  and milk. That was a treat back then.

LARRY  so many fires out in the western states and they started early this year. Every time I hear of one in California my heart skips a beat till I know where it is remembering the year my daughter and family had to evacuate but the fire stopped before reaching the end of the road they live on. Now I will worry about hearing about one in Arizona where they will be living but both grandsons will be in San Diego. Dr. Spock did a lot to mess up a few generations. Heard his own son committed suicide. I was raised by strict parents and that is how I raised my 3 and the way they have raised theirs. They are all good people.

PHYLLIS  looks like a good day here, humidity is low again and that is good for me. I will be sending my CNA  to the market tomorrow. She like shopping and makes sure she gets what is on my list.

MARY ANN  your strawberry shortcake sounds good.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  I don't like strawberry shortcake with milk.  I make baking powder biscuits, split them in half and put in a bowl.  I clean and cut up the strawberries ahead of time, add a little sugar and lightly mash (for juice).  When ready to eat I put the berries and some of the juice on top of the biscuit halves and add a BIG dollop of REAL whipped cream.  That's my very favorite dessert.

Gloria--Good morning.  Glad you slept well.  I think I started doing the "Nest" at least 20 years ago.  Thanks for your appreciation all these years.

The body repair guy hasn't come yet.  He called and said there was a fatal accident on I-95, so he had to drive in the median to get off.  When he got off I-95, the main road to my house off the interstate was also closed.

Good Morning dear friends. It is so good to see all your sunshiney faces. This is an odd morning for me. I didn't want to do my usual prayer/exercise thing today. Still don't. So I am just going to let the day unfold as it will, and make no plans. My mind does not want to wake up either, so I will not push it. Have a happy day, keep well, and enjoy every minute. June

Joan, your strawberry shortcake with baking powder biscuits is like what I make with Jiffy Mix and I layer the berries, then put milk in the bowl.  Since both my dad and mother liked them that way, I don't know where the idea came from.

I went to make shortcake recently; I had the strawberries and went to the Jiffy Mix box and found about two tablespoons of mix in the box.  I didn't bother to make shortcake from scratch.

I'm back!  I got two boxes of red raspberries and 4 of black raspberries and almost 2 pounds of blueberries.  It was a lovely day to be out in the fields.  It's still only up to 81 but it doesn't fell that warm.  There was a light breeze blowing and it felt cooler than it was.  It was only 78 when I started home.

Phyll, the little dish on the side in the hidey hole is seedless black raspberries.  Please share them with June because she can't have the seeds.  There's also vanilla ice cream to go with the berries and some milk if that's what you prefer.  My choice is heavy cream but I usually settle for 1/2 and 1/2 these days.  Back on my grandparents farm, cream was plentiful.

Mary Ann, I don't think your strawberry shortcake recipe is English OR Danish because that's the way we ate it, too and I had a German Grandfather who was the baker and the shortcake was always either made by him or with his recipe.  And I had an Irish Grandmother who also served it that way.  That's the way we always had it.  And another Scottish/Irish grandmother.  So is this recipe English/Danish/German/Scottish/Irish or shall we just call it GOOD OLD AMERICAN?

My sister still makes shortcake over my grandfather's recipe and so does my niece.  It's probably most like Bis' baking powder biscuits but not exactly so.

You folks have certainly put my mind at rest about hiring someone to clean my house.  Phyllis, thanks for that link - not only explained the tax law but also offered a search for up to four names in my area.   :)  I'm going to have to get really serious about this, although I really hate the thought of anyone else doing what I should be doing.  One more step in releasing my independence.   :'(

I was thinking about the headlines about some rich b*****s who had live-in illegals for maids and nannies and gardners and didn't deduct anything, etc. and who wound up either paying huge fines or time in jail.

Good morning from a sunny/cloudy Interior day. I am starting to think about hiring a housekeeper this fall. I have for some time used a voice system for the computer and various things are justing letting me know I can't do them anymore. Such is life.

We have raspberry bushes, but no black raspberries, and strawberry, blueberries and many other types of berry bushes everywhere growing wild. You just have to compete with the bears at times and be loud and watch carefully, especially with children. Many folks have them growing in their yards.

I have bimonthly produce from a local farm that offers pick your own, work for a supply or like me pay a monthly fee. I also have game meat, given by friends when cleaning their freezers after the new meat is coming in. Regular processed or convenience food has chemicals that I am violently allergic to so eating clean is best.

We simply do not have the farm systems as Janie describes or any roadside stands, but we do have these farms putting food out there for either a monthly cost or a portion of manual labor and there are the farmer's markets.

Hal, the important phrase in your message is "if you can afford..."  :)  I will be in touch with the county next Wednesday about recertifying for food stamps and HEAP and will ask then about state or county help with the house cleaning as well.

Joan, I am sure you know that Jiffy Mix is like Bisquick.  I can make either separate biscuits or one large one in a round cake pan.  Jiffy Mix is made in Chelsea Michigan and is less expensive than Bisquick.  It used to be much more less expensive, but they've been catching up.  It still is less than Bisquick and does the same things.

Jane, I have all of those nationalities in my ancestry, so who knows where my family got the idea.  Anyway, I prefer my shortcake with milk; I think it is delicious.

My refrigerator control went bad and to replace it would cost almost as much as a new refrigerator - so we bought a new refrigerator.  The control would take a week to get here and the refrigerator can't be delivered until Tuesday, but that is the route I'm taking.  I bought a top freezer after consulting with Tom as to his preference.

Its now heading near to an early bedtime, not quite yet but getting there...Well so far today I have managed to keep my eyes open, haven't nodded off once, yet.....

The day has gone faster than some days....after popping out for around three hours from noon to 3pm'ish....first was to make the journey to pick up my clothing Items that I had left with seamstress almost three weeks ago....she done an expert job, but then that was what I was paying her for....Both myself and R found her to be on the rude side today, yes she asked how we had been since she saw us last, a quick flash at the seams on my dressing gown to make with my approval the, she then ushered R out of the way to make room to pass a young student looking girl carrying what looked like a white wedding dress, but was probably a prom dress, as that was what she said she mostly does....then seamstress totally ignored us to deal with young lady, telling the man ( not sure if he was her hubby, how much I need to pay, he brought out the card paying hand machine, I paid, she still ignored me dealing with the prom dress young lady, thank heavens man made some friendly conversation before we left, we both just felt she was rather rude, after all I was a new customer of hers.....

Anyway the rest of the three hours went good...We saw a sign for what sounded like a plant nursery, so we paid a visit to explore, a strange kindof place, a cattery and dog boarding kennels, never heard any miaows or barking, a narrow foot bridge leading to a large tree lined nursery garden filled with plant pot containers all marked with the selling price's just scattered evenly around the garden....I couldn't walk around the garden so we came out after R said he doesn't think these are what he is looking to buy...as we were coming out a down to earth country guy waved to us so we knew he was the plant owner- seller...he was very friendly, we chatted and we told him how honest and trustworthy he is, there was a notice we spotted that said," sorry he was unavailable but to help ourselves to the plants we want and leave the money in the postbox above...." To our left of the carpark, ( we were the only people there,) there was a lovely old house, high steps with plant pots on that we asked him what the house was, what was in there as we weren't familiar with the advertising notice, to be told a guesthouse, and he lived in this near side...It was a lovely and secluded place and grounds, through a driveway that to outsiders travelling along the road wouldn't know was there...

After we drove out from there, we then stopped off at a proper garden centre where of course I headed for the loo, right at the far end, inside the building through to the restaurant area..... The outside had all the plants, trees, hanging baskets and and plant pots...so when we reached where the outside loos were just outside the restaurant area, we stopped to have a cappuccino, before resuming back outside in choosing our plants, we bought three, plus a container, and a new watering can....picked up some coconut cream fairy cakes for eating when we got home with a cuppa....So all in all an enjoyable three plus hours, with a fair bit of walking, albeit I hung onto a metal shopping trolley for support most of the way as my legs got weaker....I even just about managed walking back through the indoor garden centre, back through the restaurant area to go outside to the loo for a second visit, a large disabled loo awaited me....Yes not often I can say I went out happy and came home happy, but I did today..even our weather stayed dry and pleasantly warm.

The berries are delicious, Jane, and thank you for putting the seedless ones in the hidey hole for June and me.

Joan, I fix shortcake the same way you do.  Make my own biscuits but add a spoonful of sugar for just a little bit of sweetening.  And I fix the strawberries the same way.  When they have marinated for awhile with sugar on them they get nice and juicy and that sweet juice soaks into the biscuit shortcake and is so yummy.  The big dollop of whipped cream on top makes it all the better.  I "gathered" some nice looking strawberries at the store today (along with 'way too much other stuff) so shortcake here I come.  :yum:

Jeanne Lee, you are welcome.  I was pretty sure you didn't have to deal with taxes for using a house cleaner.  I'm moving ever closer to that, too, but haven't given in just yet.  I am an independent soul and like to do things MY way but the time is coming that I'll have to back off and let someone else do it THEIR way.  The creaky old body says so!

I think David and I will indulge in an old fashioned, bad for you, DQ burger and shake tonight.  Talk to you all tomorrow.....God willing.

Good late afternoon, Another sunny day.

June you asked about my leak, it is a bad subject with me, as I told you The water problem started Wed. night, I called the office early, talk to a nice lady, who said she was sending some one right away. As i said I had a doctors appointment, so had to leave by 12:30. I finally called the office at Noon, again a nice lady answered, she ask me who I talk too.  their was no record of me calling. So she sent another man, who arrived within 10min. of my call. He agreed I had a broken pipe, and would be back after lunch, I told I would leave the house unlocked. Came home two and a half hours later, still no water. Thought the man still had to come, at 5 I called the office no answer, everyone had gone home. Sooooo had to wait till 9, called again and this time the women said he fixed it yesterday, she said I will send someone over.  Hour later Fred comes and said I hear another leak :o It seems he came yesterday, with a new helper, he worked under the house while the help was in the utility room, Fred told him to turn it the water on after he finished to check it out, then told him to turn it off still checking. Then he told him to turn it back on.  Either the youngman did not hear, or had already  left.  No comon sense!
Sorry about such a long answer.  I am more worried about my GS, who is still in the hospital with Kidney problems.  Now they are they he would get better care in a hospital in Jackson, which is a long ways from Niceville.

Janie and Phyllis, thank you dear ones, for sharing the seedless berries for me. I can't remember ever having blackberries till now. My Mom raisied huge purple mulberries, and they were a treat !

I have friends that do a lot of traveling and sent me pictures from their last trip to the Oregon Coast...lovely to view. And my Dori sent me a whole group of picture taken with her iphone of the trip she and Gary made to Idaho. What a treat to see my little Great Grands, and how quickly they have grown during these months they have been away. Beautiful country up there too. McCall is a tourist town, and I can see why.

I am enjoying my "day off", as if every day isn't a day off, but this one I am really staying home. I don't even plan to go pick up my mail.

Gloria de, that is deplorable for not getting the service you needed for the water leak. I think I would have called the fire dept about that time, or the water department. Do you live with a complex that is responsible for taking care of things like that ? And what about the necessary clean-up ? Didn't you say one had the carpet flooded ? Thanks for updating us dear, and i'm praying your Grandson's illness will be healed soon. I know you are worried, and you don't need that extra worry. Hugs girl. I wish I could help.

Angelface--No.  I haven't heard from Sandy.  You should get a housekeeper if you find there are tasks that are difficult for you to do.  You sure have several ways to get berries and produce.  Medicare here does not pay for any cleaning help.

Jeanne Lee--I hope you are approved for the assistance  you need.

Junee--Oh my.  Guess you created quite a stir by forgetting to turn off you Vita Call.

Mary Ann--I do know Bisquick is the same as Jiffy, but I've just always used Bisquick.

Linedancer--You sure are having trouble with pipes and leaks.  I continue to pray for your grandson.

Amy and Janie--The cream is another "whatever floats your boat".

June--How nice that friends and family send you so many pictures.

Good evening everyone

June and Joan thanks for your coments. June, I live in Glenwood Village a very large Mobile Pk. I call the office and they sent a plumber.  The homes mine is 38 years old have pressed wood floors, which are not allowed now. As soon as they get wet they swell, so now I cannot close the close door, or the bathroom door, I have a fan going and will see what to morrow brings.  As I have said this is a material thing. It will get fixed somehow.

We are having some much-needed rain along with thunder. The temps have dropped from mid to high 90s down to 82.

My week has been busy.......bocce-golf on Tues. morning and golf yesterday. Problem is, with the heat, by the time I get home I don't feel like doing much else.  Next week we switch from bocce-golf to bocce. I really like bocce, probably because I'm good at it.  :)  I'm a lousy golfer but it gets me out of the house and I like the social aspect.

I love this time of year with all the berries and summer fruit, like peaches and watermelon.  Chape brought a big watermelon home today and it's taking up most of our refrigerator.

Joan - I've always had strawberry shortcake the way you described it. My favorite dessert is a toss-up between shortcake or cheesecake with strawberries.

When we were kids, my brother and I picked wild raspberries, black raspberries and blackberries. A lot of them didn't make it home! If we only found a cup or two of black raspberries, my mother would make a spice cake and stir them in. So good!

June - A lot of people don't seem to know about mulberries. Friends of ours had mulberry trees, both white and purple/black. The white ones were really mild but I loved the others. They were huge and sweet and I don't recall them having seeds.

Junee - You DID have a dreadful day! Hope your tomorrow is better.

And Jackie - Your day was just as good as Junee's was bad! Glad you had such a nice afternoon (with the exception of the rude seamstress!)

Gloria - I pray for your grandson's recovery. The broken pipe situation would have me upset, too. Sounds like his helper needs more experience.

Amy - Happy Canada Day!

Larry - I'm with you on the berries with milk in the form of ice cream!

Jane S. - That's a lot of berry picking! Do you freeze them?

Phyllis - I love blackberry pie or jam but can't deal with the seeds anymore! Somehow seedless jam just isn't the same.

Mary Ann - Getting a new fridge is the best idea. I never understood why the parts are so costly that you might as well buy new. We had the same thing with a washing machine one time.

Jeanne - A lot of people feel like that........It's hard to watch someone do the things you feel you should be doing.  With a little practice, you might get to like it.  ;)

Hal - Looks like a long hot summer, so hope your A/C holds up! The new ones can break the bank!  ::)

Joy - Just checked and see you are from Maryland........home of the best crab cakes ever! I'll pass on the steamed crabs, though.  :)

Gloria -  You are right. It's been a long time. When I first joined Senior Net my grandson was six.....Now he's 29! I, too, remember when Joan/Bis opened the Nest.

Angelface - I did a search and it appears that Medicare doesn't pay for services such as cleaning.

I've nearly written a book! Till next time......

JOAN  looks like it wasn't long after you started the nest that I joined. We had a lot of fun there. How Bunnie and Mare used to tease each other. At first I wondered about them but soon caught on. I used to make an angelfood cake for strawberry shortcake. Never like those sponge cakes they have for it. Pound cake works good too. I would mash most of the berries, add some sugar. Kept some whole to put on top of the whipped cream.

JANE  that is a lot of berries ad I know they will not go to waste with you.

JEANNE LEE  I have had help for more than  year now mostly because I can no longer do much. It still bothers me to see someone do what I feel in my job. Since I have food stamps I do not pay my helper. The state does. I would never be able to afford it.

PATRICIA  like you I do not care for processed food because of all the preservatives added. Even a loaf of bread these days is terrible. When I could get around I would get bread at a bakery. Now I cannot remember the last time I bought any.

JUNEE  one of my friends here has that life alert and it went off while she was sleeping, The thing was in the living room and of course the rescue came from the fire department. Always hate to see that pull up here. Hope today was quiet and uneventful for you.

JACKIE  looks like you had a wonderful tie out today.

GLORIA de  a water leak is no fun. Hope things are OK by now. I have your grandson in my prayers.

AMY  it has been many years here since all the milk is pasteurized. Even apple cider can only be sold if it is pasteurized. Doesn't taste the same. My son has a small press and makes some cider but only for family and it is great.

BEVERLY  I still have a collage Bunnie did of all who used to post in the Nest. Quite a big group. Fun times.

Good night everyone.

Gloria de, when we had a manufactured or mobile home, as you have, we had ours placed down in the ground on metal pilings. There was a crawl space under the home, but not something that was easy to work on things underneath. Is your home raised above ground ? if so, thing should dry out a lot sooner. I just feel so badly that you have to go through all this mess at the age we have reached. We can no longer do any labor necessary, and finding someone reliable to do the work is difficult too. I wish you were my neighbor here in Rowntree Gardens where you would not have to contend with things like this.

Sandy, Good to see you posting, you are so reliable for daily posts, so we do feel concern.

Beverly, as I recall my Mother had trained her mulberry plant near a lengthy trellis, like they use for grapes, and she kept them so one could just stand there and fill up on mulberries. Behind that, she had a hen house, so there were always enough eggs for her to bake with. She made the best Angel food cakes ! She and my stepfather had purchased their property while I was living in Chicago. So when we came back to Ca. we stayed with them till we found a rental, while looking for a home to buy. By then we had an infant son, and two toddlers...Susie and Dan...and they dearly loved the mulberries and the chickens, something they never had living in Chicago where the front door opened onto a public sidewalk. Quite a new life for them.

Okay, Sandy I repied to you on Norm's B&T but still glad to hear from you!

Perhaps the one who told me in our office here thought I was on the state program? I do not get food stamps as here they are only 19.00 a month on my SS. I don't think I qualify for their Medicaid program but if it would pay for a housekeeper than I will check it out next week as well as the Medicare I'm receiving beginning in July. I'm not always clear on what is now available to me that wasn't before I retired.

Here in this building, we have 24/7 security and maintenance because of some who are severely physically challenged, some in hospital type beds. Or perhaps it is company policy for their buildings?

Gloria, the last time I ate processed foods, a Hormel microwave spaghetti dinner, I ended up in the emergency room with a $4000. bill. Evidently I have developed a severe allergy to processed and other chemically enhanced foods, so I have to eat clean. Most microwavable, canned food or another fast food contains chemicals that react with my system.

June, some of the farm delivered eggs that I have bimonthly along with other items are brown so I have both white and brown eggs. No difference in quality, just from different chicken breeds.

June and whoever it was that asked before...most of these berries will go into either my stomach or jam.  I have them stashed in the fridge right now and whatever makes it to Friday will be in jam or in the freezer waiting for enough more to make a batch of jam.  Black raspberry jam is a favorite in my family and blueberry is second.  I know I don't have enough blueberries for a batch but my friend wants to go pick and they are available all the way through July.  So I'm sure to get more.  The black raspberries are almost over so that's what I concentrated on today.

Pretty soon there will be cherries and then I'll be busy again!

Someone at the Area Agency on Aging suggested that I check into the possibility of obtaining food stamps and I was told that I earn too much to be eligible.  So I can quit my job and eat on the government but I won't have a house to live in because I won't be able to pay the mortgage if they keep cutting SS and I'm not working but I'd be eligible for food stamps.  Of course I'd have to run through my savings, too.  I wonder if my son would save me a couple of refrigerator boxes?  I already have a lot of bags and a nice big tarp to throw over the boxes when it rains.  Oh yes!  I also have my sense of humor.

Good Night Everyfriend!  I think I'll go sleep in my bed while I still have it!  God Bless Us Every One.

Jeanne Lee, I think the hardest thing to accept in our older years, is the fact that we need to relinquish our independence. once we realize and accept the need of having assistance, the big cross-over is done. Now I that I am used to having someone else do my dirty work, I am still having to convince myself that I don't have to dispose of, or tuck away things that would cause them more work. like leaving reading material on a table by my favorite chair. The decision is theirs, either work with it, or around it. I ran accross some more dated paperwork from "Sr. Net". and Bis' Nest. It is an email from you Jeanne dated Dec. 1997, when I was groping around what to do and how to do it. You have been of great help for many years my friend.

Hi, Mycheal...nice poem ! thank you.

I miss our Bunnie...what a soldier she was. Vacuuming her floors while in her wheel chair, always laughing and sharing and helping. And our Mare ! She and her Frank were a special couple.

Good Memories.

Time to close down and let you all have some peace and quiet. Wishing you a Blessed night and a beautiful tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June

well we can thank our folks for raising us  so freely giving and soft hearted. but that is not what keeps awake at night.
do not think I will trade that pride for food stamps. I told Nancy just this morning we should fix up the upper level of the school part of the shop and rent out this big house. that would bring in enough to make the mortgage payment.
right off she said renters do not take care of property. so I guess that means we will keep on keeping on,wondering if
our children can or will take care of us when the time.

Well, as we all age and get this or that or just plain old we must face the fact that we can do for ourselves.  I just pray that I stay physically able to remain in my home.  My oldest daughter has always said I will never let you (me or wife) go into a nursing home.  But, who knows what may happen.

I was raised in a family where my Grandmother was an invalid and bed ridden.  I never remember seeing her otherwise.  My Grandfather took care of her, farmed and cleaned and cooked three meals a day with minimum help, until he was up in years.  Then some of the family moved close by so they could take care of them.

Both my wife and I are in our early 80's and still mobile so God willing we can still take care of ourselves with some hired help for housekeeping and yard maintenance.  And the occasional surprise repair.  No way could I afford to move us into a assisted living facility.  I would be broke pronto.

Okay, I am off to bed.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Let me tell you about the wild mulberry trees that grow around here.... they are a nightmare, can't keep them cut down because a dozen sprouts pop up where you cut one down.  Every where... every where... and the birds eat the berries & leave purple stains on the RV & when they fly over the pool.  One time I brought some berries  in, when we first moved to Kansas.... put them in a pan of water to wash & had a whole layer of bugs floating on top.  Out they went & never checked again.

I grew up with tame blackberry bushes, dewberries, raspberries growing wild behind our house. We even had wild strawberries that grew all over in the woods behind our house & in the medial strip between the streets (Blvd) to the west & wild asparagus. Strawberries were small but the flavor so strong you could smell them growing.  Our house was at the edge of the city limits & no other houses around for some years.  Dad's garden grew enormous everything... he even grew kale before it was "in".

At 81 all I can do is hope & pray I can take care of myself until I am ready for the care home or retirement village.... whatever it's called when the time comes.  I've told my kids that "don't do me any favors, I don't want to live with any of you again!"   ::)  .... I don't want any of them feeling responsible for me, I am such a free spirit would drive them nuts.  Right now my sons are doing a lot of the chores my husband did (like the yard & spraying for bugs, etc).... I pay them what I'd pay someone else, more most of the time.... but I know they do the job right.  They object to taking money so I just explain that I won't let them know if I need help if they don't.  We saved because my husband was afraid of running out of money if we didn't... and I'm the original bargain shopper & "do it yourself-er" so it is day by day and don't buy green bananas... right?  I need to get rid of "stuff" but nobody can help do that.... one of these days.

My computer still goes to sleep/screen saver when I stop to read over ... thanks to Windows 10, never did this before & I keep trying to convince it to wait 10 or 15 minutes in the setting but it won't behave.  Sweet dreams to all.... God Bless.  Shirley

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend, on this first day of July.   There's Egg McMuffins to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

CHUCKLES

The Ugliest Man in the World

One day, Hercules, Snow White and the Quazzimodo (Hunchback of Notre Dame) were standing around talking. Hercules spoke up and said, "I bet I am the strongest man in the world."

Snow White then looked around and said, "Well I bet that I am the most beautiful person in the world."

Then Quazzimodo looks around and quietly said, "I suppose that I am the ugliest man in the world."

An old man who had been listening in on there conversation said, "There is a psychic on top of that hill up there, why don't you each go in there and ask her yourself?"

The three friends agreed and they hiked to the top of the hill. Hercules went in first and came out a few minutes later and said, "I was right, I am the strongest man in the world."

Snow White went in next. She came out a few minutes later and said, "I was also right, I am the most beautiful person in the world."

Finally it was Quazzimodo's turn. He went in and after a few minutes he came out scratching his head. He looks up at his friends and said:

"Who is John Price?"

Food For Thought

Moral Universe
(By Ravi Zacharias)

Some years ago I was speaking at the University of Nottingham, England, when a rather exasperated person in the audience made his attack upon God with this very question.

This questioner was felled by his own question. "There cannot possibly be a God," he said, "with all the evil and suffering that exists in the world!"

I asked him if we could interact on this issue for just a few moments. He agreed.

"When you say there is such a thing as evil, are you not assuming that there is such a thing as good?" I asked.

"Of course," he retorted.

"But when you assume there is such a thing as good, are you not also assuming that there is such a thing as a moral law on the basis of which to distinguish between good and evil?"

"I suppose so," came the hesitant and much softer reply. This was an extremely important point to note as I made the argument. Most skeptics have never given this point a thought.

I therefore reminded this questioner, in his initial hesitancy, of the debate between the agnostic Bertrand Russell and the Christian philosopher Frederick Copleston. During the debate, Copleston asked Russell if he believed in good and bad. Russell admitted that he did, and Copleston responded by asking him how he differentiated between the two. Russell said that he differentiated between good and bad in the same way that he distinguished between colors. "But you distinguish between colors by seeing, don't you?" Copleston reminded Russell. "How then, do you judge between good and bad?" "On the basis of feeling, what else?" came Russell's sharp reply. Somebody should have interrupted and told Russell that in some cultures they loved their neighbors while in other cultures they ate them-both on the basis of feeling. Did Mr. Russell have a personal preference? How in the name of reason can we possibly justify differentiating between good and bad on the basis of feeling? Whose feeling? Hitler's or Mother Teresa's? In other words, there must be a moral law, a standard by which to determine good and bad. How else can one make the determination?

My questioner finally granted that assumption without hesitation.

So let me retrace for a moment how far he had come. I had asked him if he believed in good; he answered yes. But if he believed in good, he had to grant a moral law by which to distinguish between the two. He agreed. "If, then, there is a moral law," I said, "you must posit a moral lawgiver. But that is who you are trying to disprove and not prove. If there is no moral lawgiver, there is no moral law. If there is no moral law, there is no good. If there is no good, there is no evil.

I am not sure what your question is!"

There was silence, and then he said, "What, then, am I asking you?"

The momentary humor was inescapable. He was visibly shaken that at the heart of his question lay an assumption that contradicted his conclusion. This is exactly what I meant when I said that the skeptic not only had to give an answer to his or her own question, but also had to justify the question. And even as the laughter subsided I reminded him that I accepted the question, but that his question justified my assumptions that this was a moral universe, not his. For if God is not the author of life, neither good nor bad is a meaningful term. This constantly eludes the skeptic who seems to think that by raising the question of evil a trap has been sprung to destroy theism when, in fact, the very raising of the question ensnares the skeptic who raised the question. A hidden assumption comes into the open. In other words, can we really raise a problem with moral implications if this is not a moral universe? The moment we use the word "better," said C.S. Lewis, we assume a point of reference.

In the same vein, are we positing a legitimate category when we ask why this universe seems immoral if the universe itself has no moral basis or reason for being? The disorienting reality to those who raise the problem of evil is that the Christian can be consistent when he or she talks about the problem of evil and gives a coherent response to it, while the skeptic is hard-pressed to respond to the question of good in an amoral universe. In short, the problem of evil is not solved by doing away with the existence of God in the face of evil; the problem of evil and suffering must be resolved while keeping God in the picture...

The question of the problem of evil [also] is either raised by a person or about a person, which means the problem of evil (when it is posited) assumes the intrinsic worth of person hood. If there is no intrinsic worth to person hood then the question self destructs. So, person hood is necessary for the question to be valid. That's why we can only justify it if the person is the creation of someone of distinct worth, which is God himself. That's why we move to a moral law giver.

Your life and my life assume intrinsic worth for the problem of evil question to be valid. That intrinsic worth can only be because we are the creation of a loving creator (who imbues value) and not just a random bunch  of cells.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Joanie, I really like the inspirational reading this morning.  What a neat package he wrapped for the unbeliever.  I hope I can remember some of the arguments when I need them.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning and then I have 3 days off.  I have to check out my jelly jars before I go and make sure I have enough for the black raspberry jam.  I better check the sugar too.

I hope you all have a good day.

Amy, I'm wishing for no fireworks too but around here, I think it's a hollow hope.  My Annie is terrified!  And Mickie isn't much better.

Good morning, Amy.  I'm hoping folks don't shoot fireworks randomly, too.  We're so dry that there are already several wild fires going.

Janie--Good morning.  Glad you liked the inspirational reading.  I guess part of your three days off will be spent in the kitchen making that yummy jam.  Hopefully all of those in your line at WM today will be wearing BIG smiles.

Good Friday noon, Joan and Everyfriends.....

We will be off out again in the next 20 minutes....after taking our Toby to a different pet groomers....well i sure made upmy mind he wont be going back there again....even though we havnt collected him yet, and havnt seen how ell she done him or not, that wont make any difference to me, think R also agrees with me....After asking 20 questions as a new customer - client...she then asked about his character-temperament, I looked a bit dumbfounded, she then went into a few meanings of which one was, " does he bark..." of course I laughed and said yes " he's a barker, meaning at home, not necessarily at the groomers....so she jumped in with...this is a residential dwelling and " if Toby barks, I will have to stop what I am doing, ( even if half way through, and end his session, ) and phone us to come back to collect him..." Well I could have walked out there and then, of course R had nipped back to the car for photo of how I have had Toby groomed in the past, so as soon as he arrived back, In front of her I repeated to R what she had just said, now if anyone knows me, I will show the look on my face that I am angry, or in disbelief of what I had just heard, and I made sure R picked up on that straight away, I also nodded my head to him in saying, " I wont be bringing him here anymore, I have made a real blooper..." Any way we are soon leaving to go pick him up, I don't care how well she has groomed him, he wont be going back there again, I will contact the lovely and friendly groomer we found last time....

I was even bursting for the loo, the drive there was really out of the way, windy country lane, so I asked her if there was a loo within her outside grooming parlour, at the back of her house, after scanning around I could see there wasn't, so I was hoping she would suggest I could use her loo, but she didn't...Anyway she done us a favour as I asked if there was a pub nearby, she gave us directions but instead we found a lovely water garden, complete with cafeteria and small shop, and a loo, we stopped for a coffee, bought a lovely matching set of green and pink lily coasters and small sandwich tray, staff were very friendly, the outside scenery with its circled lake and wildlife of ducks was relaxing, a place we shall go back to visit again, hence why we are now back home with just a few minutes to spare before we go look for a cash machine to go collect Toby and pay her....

Janie--Good for you!!

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  I wouldn't go back to that cranky groomer either.  Now really--asking if a dog barked.  You should have told her you remove the "barker" before you go to any groomer.  At least you found a nice place to have a snack and use the bathroom.

Good morning, Joan,  Jane and Jackie and Amy.

It is a beautiful sunny morning here in Central Maryland.

Joan, thanks for the Egg McMuffin this morning.  Love them.  When I go for blood work,  I usually stop and at McDonald's for one of them.

Beverly,  yes, Maryland crab cakes are the best.  We have several places that make good ones.  One place is fairly new, and we all can't decide which one makes the best ones..  It is really a toss up.

So many places out of state advertise "Maryland Crab Cakes" but they usually aren't very good.

We do enjoy the steamed crabs, tho.  I will leave some in the hidey-hole for Joan and anyone else, if there are any left.  LOL   I know they do not appeal to a lot of people.  And, it does seem like a lot of work to eat them.   Either you like them or you don't.   A lot of people find it easier just to buy a can of crabmeat.  I very seldom make my own.  We go out to eat pretty often, so that is one of the things that are usually on the menu.

Hope everyone will have a wonderful day.

Joy

Well, I found out last night just how well the medical alert buttons work.

I was ready for bed, on the couch, dozing while watching Perry Mason.  At almost on the minute of midnight the phone rang, of course scaring the dickens out of me, and the caller ID showed  an 800 number.  Thinking that someone had a lot of nerve to try calling at that hour, I let it go unanswered.

Ten minutes later the entire front of my house lit up brighter than midday.  I went to the front door, thinking "NOW what!" and discovered a large rescue vehicle with two huge spotlights aimed at the front door of my house.  A man was waking across the front yard and asked if I was OK.  It seems sometime in one of my sleepy bits I had somehow pushed the button on the alert signal.  He explained that the 800 number phone call was the service calling to check and when they got no answer sent the rescue outfit.  From now on I'll be sure to answer a phone call with an I.D. of 800.

Embarrassing of course, and I apologized for calling out the whole crew for nothing, but it was reassuring how quickly the whole situation was handled.  I'm just glad it was a false alarm and I didn't really need the service…   this time.

Good Morning Everyone from the warm,
but not too warm,  rocky coast of Maine.
Our weather will be in the high 70's and low
80's  for the next couple of weeks.   Still a
bit lower with less humidity then normal.

Here is a picture of my Great Grand Daughter
"Fe", taken wearing  a gift from friends
in Turnkey....  Lovely outfit!

"Fe" is growning so fast!    She has many loving arms
to hold her ...  That is the way it is when you live
in a big family.   The baby's never lack for
attention.

Jeanne Lee .  I am so glad to see that
your life alert button is working well.

Have a good day,   Everyone.

Good morning, Joy.  I sure appreciate your putting those steamed crabs in the "hidey hole".  I'd better eat them fast or they will really stink up the place.  You know how fast fish goes bad if not eaten.:)  I like crabcakes, too.  And I also love steamed clams.

Jeanne Lee--I have accidentally pushed the button on my LifeLine twice.  However, when they called to see if I needed help, I answered the phone.  I also have three "responders" on my list who live in the neighborhood.  If I didn't answer they would try to contact them to check on me before they sent out a "crew".

Good morning, Sandy.  Your temps sound delightful.  Fe is so adorable.  Her outfit is just darling.

Jeanne Lee, Hm, embarrasing yes but looking on the bright side...at least you know that buzzer does whats its meant to be doing...bringing the rescue team out to you...now as for the searchlites, now that bit is scary, I should imagine you thought there was a maniac on the loose, and they were out searching, house to house... :o
...............................
Well back from the groomers, have to admit this is making my job harder, she done a great job on him, charged us the same as previous groomer, and told us Toby was really good but...whilst I was sorting out her money R had stepped outside and unwittingly Toby had a touch of the runs, she didn't complain just threw a bucket of water over it, think it then went into the decking crevices, so Toby left his going away present....as for me, I could only apologise for him...On the way back we once again popped into the water gardens carpark so I could use their outside loo before carrying on with our journey, we go home via, the opposite direction from where we come...... I still stick to my guns...I shant be taking Toby to her again, besides her driveway is on a steep slope, then another wooden slope, all this from a high up glass surround carport...
.............................
Our post arrived and at last we now know what to expect re, our Petplan Insurance...they are meeting what we paid over the halfway mark but, they did give us some problems a week or so ago with sending a letter request in answering some stupid questions of which they already have the answers, even demanding Benjis previous two vet history, going back the whole 13 years which we then had to chase up, since vet number one has now changed hands....
..............................
Think I forgot to mention the night before last I took a fall, nothing major....I was saying good night to Benji when I went down sideways on my left side, my good side, of course poor Benji jumped from his bed, both dogs around me thinking I was in a playful mood...I was  more angry with myself, wouldn't let R help me up, told him I was alright, just a carpet burn on my left lower leg so....In all honesty I don't know what caused it, whether accident or my MS.....I was lucky as I just missed catching my head on our double glassed dividing doors...
............................
Oh and some good news at last on our bathroom flood carpet fitting...R took a phonecall and someone is coming next Monday to lay it....how can a straightforward Insurance claim take so long?.....
..............................
On the disable Blue Badge saga, been almost three weeks now, and I still haven't received it....lets just hope number two passport size photo doesn't get rejected also....

Vanilla-Jackie--Benji left the groomer a present for being so rude.:)  At least you heard from your Pet Insurance but seems they want you to jump through hoops asking for records for Benji going back 13 years.  I sure am glad you didn't get hurt severely when you fell.  I know you'll be happy to get that bathroom carpet installed.  And what happened to the Disabled Tag?

Good Morning - and Happy July Oneth!

Sandy, Fe is a cutie and the outfit is darling.

Jeanne Lee,  I do not understand why emergency people use an anonymous ID for calls.
One time, my phone rang at 2:00 a.m.   The Caller ID said "Anonymous Caller" so, of course, I ignored it.  It rang again and a woman's voice said,  "This is the police department.  There's an officer at your door who would like to talk to you about your neighbor."  I sternly told her I wasn't about to open my door and knew nothing about my neighbors at that hour of the morning.   (I also knew I was not the one to call if this neighbor had problems - and that she wasn't there, anyway)
When I peeked out, I saw a car parked across the street but could not see if it was a police car.
My granddaughter was spending the night (reason #2 why I wouldn't have opened the door) and, of course, told her Dad when he came to get her the next morning.
Then I called the local police station and, in my best This Is Your Teacher tone, expressed my opinion about the lack of information.
The nice young officer said politely,  "Yes ma'am.  I've just talked to your son."   :)  Apparently, my son had called with a "don't do that to my Mother" speech.
He did suggest that, if it ever happened again, I should call 911 to find out if it was a legitimate issue.

I feel a bit like Winnie-The-Pooh walking up and down with his umbrella saying,  "Tut tut, it looks like rain."   Yes, it does - but so far nary a drop has fallen on my house and the flowers could surely use some.

This has been a busy week - needing to be at a certain place at a certain time every day.
A friend and I did go to a new restaurant for lunch.  When we were served a small apple fritter as a complimentary appetizer, we realized we were in the former location of a "go to" restaurant that was famous for those.  25-30 years ago, someone walked around with a basket of hot apple fritters to enjoy until the entrees arrived.
I remember one time when the waitress smilingly told my younger son she didn't think she could give him any more - and, no, the orders were not slow in arriving.  ;D

There's a neighborhood picnic tomorrow evening.  Otherwise, I have no plans for the holiday weekend.  The Grands are scattered and I'm sure their parents and uncle/aunt will be around the pool.   I have never done well outdoors in the heat for more than a few minutes and am sure I shouldn't start trying to do so now.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Hi everyone on a relatively mild morning with 95 percent humidity.  We are headed up to about 90 degrees this afternoon.  A couple of times yesterday we heard some thunder and it looked stormy but we didn't get any rain.  There is only a small chance for today.

This is the morning for the housekeeper to be here.  I stopped reading and writing here for a quick trip to Walmart for a prescription and a few other items.  I plan to stay home the rest of the day.  I did have a good nights sleep last night so ready to take on the day.  My morning chores are completed.

I don't know whether Scott will be coming out to spend part of the day with us or not.  This is the day that Sam died last year and he asked us Wednesday if we would be home today if he needed to be with us to help him today as he is not working.

Phyllis, that is my understanding of the requirement when hiring a housekeeper that is basically an independent contractor.

Joan, yesterday the radar showed the rain on either side of us with the edges very close but no rain on us.  Nice that the repair man is coming to the car rather than you having to take it somewhere for the repair.

Mary Ann, my dad always wanted very thin crisp pie crust with his strawberries and milk.  I preferred the little yellow sponge cakes with some whipped topping rather than milk.  My mother had a huge strawberry patch and made lots of strawberry preserves each year.

Gloria, to the best of my memory, the Seniornet discussions started in 1996 or 1997.  Joan was one of the early discussion leaders.  I found the site about six months after it was started and became very involved mainly behind the scenes and enjoyed every minute of it.  Some of the folks came over from the the old AOL Senior discussions but I was never a part of those.

Jeanne, you will really appreciate someone else doing the cleaning for you.  Hope you find someone you like. I expect there is a program that can provide assistance such as cleaning and other things you may need help with.

Mary Ann, we have a side-by-side freezer/refrigerator and I think a top freezer is better especially as we age as it is hard to find things in the two lower baskets in the freezer.  It sounds like you will be doing a lot of eating out or carry-in until the new refrigerator arrives.  What brand did you buy?

Jackie, glad to see you had a good day yesterday.

Phyllis, we have found the secret with housekeepers is to let them know what we expect.  One time we had a problem with one cleaner moving things around and not putting them back basically where we have them and we had to let her know that wasn't what we wanted.  I think she may have thought if we didn't see things moved around we wouldn't think she had cleaned.  I can hardly go to a Dairy Queen without getting a small Blizzard with the Heath Bar added.  Fortunately, there isn't one in North Augusta so not too often tempted.

deAngel, I hope your water problems are now solved for you.  Those folks sure wouldn't win any prizes for good communication.  We have a couple in our Sunday School class who are in the process of selling out here and moving to Niceville to be closer to family, especially grandchildren.

Beverly, whenever we get a watermelon we cut it off the rind and into chunks and store it in plastic containers in the refrigerators.  It takes up much less space.

Hal, there often comes a time as we age where being in a nursing home is where we need to be as you children have their own lives to lead.  I saw this with my grandmother, who refused the offer from my mother and father to take her in an care for her and also my parents who lived the last couple years of their lives in the nursing home.  I know many people don't hold this view but that has been my experience.  I am hoping the same as you about staying in our home but Pat and I both realize that we may need to go to someplace like June lives as meal preparation is becoming very difficult for Pat.

Shirley, go into your setting for Windows 10 and you can set how long it will be before your computer goes into a sleep mode or not have it do that at all.  I just turn my monitor off when I am through with it for the day but leave the computer running so click of the mouse brings it back on line.  If you need help send me an email and I will tell you how to find the settings for this.

Jeanne, at least you know your alarm is working well and what to expect if you need assistance.  I am surprised the medical alert company doesn't have a name associated with their phone number.

Good Morning Everyone!

Late getting in here this morning, seems I am tail end charlie.

Janie, I can hear your motor revving up getting in the canning mood.  Don't forget to put up enough for us unfortunate souls.   :)

Joanie, Amy, I am with you on fireworks, I know some of our neighbors will be doing their (illegal) thing.  Kinda puts us other neighbors in a bind.  Although illegal how do you turn you neighbors in to the law for fireworks?  They have done it for years, so they aint gonna change now.

My wife is going down to Del Rio for the weekend with my Granddaughter and her twins.  I am staying home, I have no desire to be the only man among four women.  I am sure I can find plenty to here and at my own leisure.

Sandy, beautiful child.  Looks much like one of my Great Grands when she was that age.  The smile is infectious. You just cant help but smile back.  :smitten:

Cleaning lady is here, got to move.....bye

Sunny and humid here.  I'm staying in and re-acquainting myself with the vacuum cleaner.  What has to be done....has to be done. <sigh>

My mother did the same thing, Jeanne Lee.  After it happened the second time she wouldn't wear the button anymore.  It hung on the bed post until she decided it wasn't doing her any good so she dropped the service.  Nothing the family said would change her mind so we all just hoped that when she needed help someone would know about it.  Had to resign ourselves to what will happen will just happen.

Make it a good day, Everyone, and have a good Independence Day.

Good morning everyone, once again I was up till 4AM. The PSP is giving me problems.  Angelface was kind to me and sent me the dlls that had to be installed. The ones I had would not work. Good thing my CNA  gets here after noon or I would still have been sleeping.

PATRICIA  thank you, the file you sent worked and they went right in. When I retired  I went to the SS office the lady told me that since I was not going to get much and qualified they gave me SSI. With that I got the food stamps and Medicaid. After all that went through the state picked up the cost of the Medicare, that all surprised me. I also joined United Health at that time.

JANE we do what we have to do to survive these days.

HAL  not many families these days where the children take care of elderly parents. They are busy with their own lives. If I had to end up in a nursing home-so be it. My oldest sister made room in her house to take my parents to live with her.

SHIRLEY  my computer goes to sleep in 5 minutes and that drives me crazy, I am still using 7. Screen saver never has a chance to run. The old one I had started doing that, too.

JACKIE  I always read all the posts but don't comment to everyone. I was glad you got out a few ours and enjoyed hat time. Always good to see anyone enjoy themselves.

JOAN  I will enjoy an egg McMuffin.  OK Who is John Price.? Hard to believe anyone worse than Quazzimodo in that movie. Love the way Food For Thought had that man think. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  like you I hope people are careful if they set off fireworks. It is dry here and on TV they keep reminding people that only a few  fireworks are legal in this state. No flares or rockets allowed. So many places are tinder dry. No more cream on the milk we buy now.

JANE  I have 12 jelly canning jars and I will never make jam again. Have a good day at WM.

JACKIE  what dog doesn't bark? That groomer must not like animals.

JOY  you make me think I really missed a tasty treat with your steamed crabs.

JEANNE LEE  glad the rescue was not needed for you. Must have been frightening for a minute when they all pulled up to your home.

SANDY  your great granddaughter is adorable.  Love the smile in the second one.

LARRY  I did enjoy SN and it was so nasty of them what they did to us. I am grateful to Pat for bringing many of us back together.

Callie--You certainly had a strange experience with police at your door at that hour.  We have hot hours of thunder this week, but like you, nary a drop of rain.  Our clubhouse is having a 4th of July picnic, but I won't be going.  They set it up out around the pool and with this heat, I can't be outside for very long.

Larry--I know this is a hard day for Scott.  Anniversary dates are always tough.  I imagine they are for you and Pat, too.  The car body repair man did a fantastic job--had to do the entire rear bumper.  He charged me $250, which I though was reasonable.

halkel--I know some folks that turned neighbors in for shooting fireworks--the police never showed up.:)

Phyllis--Oh my, using the vacuum?  Better get my demerit ledger out.:)

Gloria--That PSP is interrupting your sleep.  Hopefully now that you have the proper dlls, things will run smoothly.

I'm in a right mess at the moment, our Benji's cancer signs have started...R alerted me to his back legs going...he is pacing all over the place, panting, looks frightened, I am going hysterical, telling R we have to phone vets, tell them its started, R telling me, then what, I'm telling R we cant ignore this, its started, its going to get worse....I was going crazy and shouting to R I cant find vets phone number, him giving me a fax number just made me worse....I managed to get through, crying of course, spoke to receptionist, she went and got Jeremy or Giles, cant remember which, I spoke to him, told him its started, he said can we bring him in so he could check him over, well with 20 minutes left R said no, we wont get there in time, the traffic....then tomorrow is weekend but, vet then said can we get him into their other surgery in Weymouth, its nearer, and open till 7.30pm, we said yes, vet is gothe time is now 6pm, our appointment is 6.40...

We have all come back, Benji is back but were told Benji has had a stroke, thats why he is so disorientated and wobbly, and he showed us Benjis eye movement, although to me it wasn't obvious....This vet is not the one or two vets I preferred to see, this one is new, a forigner, maybe polish, Lithuanian, not sure...He gave Benji two injections, one steroid, one antibiotic, told not to feed him tonight...Told us to come see him tomorrow at the other vet surgery, the one we have been dealing with....to give him the next injection.....Says if he hasn't improved by then, we must consider the options, although he could well recover....I wont let him be the one to end Benjis life, I want one of the other two to do that, I don't know whether any of them will be there Saturday, if indeed it comes to this...... Vet couldn't say for sure whether this was connected to his cancer or not....Vet also told us what we may or may not expect in through the night or in the morning, I am absolutely dreading whether Benji comes into my bedroom, or when I go in to check on him, usually 5.15am, but I doubt I will sleep at all tonight...Benji is trying to be normal Benji, even trying to give me kisses, but he is struggling, still wobbly, still losing balance, pacing, not settling....he may be settled now....I hate to see him like this, I don't want to see him like this....As usual both me and R are arguing, we never see eye to eye, and I will be the one going to check on him first thing in the morning, I very much doubt he will budge from his bed..

Jackie, my prayers are with you.  I pray that you will do whatever is best for Benji.  It's sometimes the hardest decision we have to make but they trust us to make it for them.  Be strong for Benji!

Gloria, If I could, I'd scoot over there and get those jelly jars.  They are the ones I'm always short of because usually they don't come back when you give them to someone as a gift.  I don't expect them to be returned but once in a while they are.

Hal, you're right!  I'm gearing up for the canning season.  This is just the beginning.  If I should happen to leave this world suddenly, I wonder if they'd eat all this stuff?

I have to go take Miss Annie to the vet.  She is again having a bad case of the "Major Itchies" and I don't want it to reach the point where she begins to pull her hair out in clumps.

In the words of General Douglas MacArthur, "I shall return!"

Larry, I bought an 18-cu ft Frigidaire refrigerator with glass shelves.  I had a Frigidaire when I moved to the condo and replaced it several years ago with a Whirlpool so now I will be back to Frigidaire.  The trash people picked up the trash bags of food today and the refrigerator is empty.  Tom bought a bag of ice so we could put what we kept on ice.  We'll have to get more ice before the refrigerator is delivered Tuesday.  I also have to have the door changed to open from the right.

Tom has just left for the balance of the day; he's going to Holland to see his son or friends or both.  He'll be back late tonight.

With the New Englanders mentioning steamed crabs or clams and other such similar sea food, I've never had those.  I did have some mussels and clams on a tour in New England several years ago, but I'm sure they were nothing like you're used to.  I do like fish and try to order it often when I go out, but I know what I get is nothing like what is available by the seashore.

It didn't take me as long as it took General MacArthur.  But then, I didn't go as far and no one was shooting at me!  They gave Annie a new med and we shall see what commences....or what stops (preferably the ITCHIES!)

Gonna go see if there are any zzzs left on the sofa.  The nights have not been easy for any of us while we fought the itchies.  Keep on keeping on!

Vanilla-Jackie--I continue to pray for Benji, you and "R".  I know this will be a difficult night.

Janie--I am sure all your stuff will always be eaten--it's so delicious.  Hope the vet can give Annie something to relieve the itching.  Edit--I see you've already been and got medicine.  Now you can relax and find some of those zzz's.

Mary Ann--I hope you get many years of use from the new fridge.  I love all kinds of fish, and that's most often what I order when I go out to eat.

I woke shortly after three this morning, so this will be an odd ball day for me. At five thirty my blood was drawn. A wonderful lady. She took it from a vein near my wrist. I didn't feel a thing. I plan to go down soon and have lunch, then back home to get comfy and just crash.

Hal, your daughter may be interested to know there are alternates to "nursing homes". Where I am is where I will stay. If I reach a point where I need constant care, my Gary plans to call in Hospice. A God given organization, and they have the legal right to administer enough pain killer to keep the patient from suffering. I feel very peaceful about death.

MUCH LATER….I was getting so sleepy I decided I had better go downstairs and have lunch, then came home and napped. Sort of a wasted day, but stuff happens…….

Amy, I'm happy to read that you are having a quieter day at home. I can see no sense at all in fireworks. They are so costly, and some danger, and smell up the air, and really terrorize and hurt the animals ears.

Jeanne, my Lifeline is worn around the neck, attached to a cord. When I first got it, I bent over to pick something up and it slipped off my neck and hit the floor. That set off the alarm in our clinic downstairs. The phone rang, and I was asked if I was O.K. I explained what happened and since then I have shortened the cord. Our life line only works in the buildings here, so if I leave the area, I always have my cell phone for emergency calls.

Sandy, Fe is a beautiful little baby, and growing so fast. My latest Gr. Grand is trying to crawl now…..too soon they are young adults. Whenever I see these gorgeous little outfits like her dress, I wonder, "is it washable ?"

Bis I actually used my lifeline one night. I had been so sick to my stomach…violently ill, so I felt I might faint. A male R.N. was on duty downstairs and he was at my door in less than two minutes. He took my pulse, listened to my heart, brought me chipped ice, and insisted I spend the next day in bed. He also left orders for light meals to be delivered to my apt.

Callie that would really spook me to have someone come to my door saying they were the police. I probably would have been dumb enough to open the door. We did have security screens on our last home, and they were great.

Gloria, my iMac has a page named System preferences, and I can go there and change  the timing for shutting down, sleeping, etc.

Jackie, you must remain calm when Benji is going through trauma. You have to be strong for her. Dogs sense when we are upset, and that does not help them at all. Speak softly to Benji, and pet him gently to help him calm down, O.K. ???

Janie, I found that half an allergy table (over the counter) work for my Petey's itching. He was having seizures and the Vet recommended allergy tablets for that too.

Mary Ann,  Does Dot live near enough to you that if Tom was away an you needed help, she could be there for you ?

Its midnight, I've dozed off, been to sleep, don' know for how long, nothing unusual in that for me, happens often throughout the day, another one of our MS traits...R is still up, Benji has been very settled and resting, got up to go into the garden to wee, is aware of me....I am just going to say good night and kiss him....I shall be up again in five hours time....I have read up that unlike humans with a stroke, dogs get over theirs, but of course no mention of age or other underlying issues....I am of course angry that my Blue Badge hasn't come, for near disabled parking access....I made a promise during these next two months that we will take Benji to this tourist attraction country park where he can be let off lead at the allocated parts, and really have a good old runaround, Benji wont be able to do that now....I also made a promise that I will get our Benji to walk on sand....R has always made that excuse we lived too far away, well we don't now, and still after three months the dogs haven't done that, nor have I....

Jackie, my heart is heavy for you tonight..... when my best friend & guardian of my kids reached the stage of a trip to the vet for "one more chance" to help her on Friday and knowing I would be taking her for a final trip on Monday, she saved me from that heartbreak by slipping away about midnight the night before.  I would have held her when the vet gave the shot, friends offering to take her but I was not willing.  I took her from her mother at 4 weeks and we shared lives and children for 11 & 1/2 years.  I've loved a lot of "critters" since, each are special and hold special memories.  My sincere sympathy to you & R.... and know that each has to grieve in their own way.  For Benji's sake, soft tones and kindness all around him for that sense of peace.  I will be thinking of you.

Sandy, that is a darling little girl, beautiful and I am sure going to be bright as any baby ever could be.

Thanks to a note from Jack with a clickable of where to change the setting....  not at all like where I had found before & tried to change... but this worked so computer not dozing off every time I stop to check for typos.... Thank you, Jack.... it takes a "show-me" screen to get through this old Missouri Mule head!  All's well tonight.  Shirley .... sweet dreams to all and God Bless us Every Friend.

Looks like we will be getting one of those thunder storms in this are tonight instead of the southern part of the state. We could use the rain.

JOAN  after 2 nights not being able to sleep I hope things are OK now. I will have to download and install a lot of plugins because some are no longer working. I sure hope I can sleep tonight.

JACKIE  my heart foes out to you at this time.

JANE  I well know about canning jars not being returned, I lost a lot that way and my daughter has with the relish she makes. Wish I could give you or my daughter the jars. I have a few I use for leftovers.

MARY ANN  I never had mussels. When we used to go to Maine they were all around the rocks along the shore line but no one ever thought to gather and cook them  If you had seafood along the coast it would have been very fresh. I like seamed or fried clams and lobster any way. Fish I can live without. Right now I have some shrimp in the fridge. I will have a feast with them tomorrow.

JANE  hope the new med helps Annie.

JUNE  like you I am not fearful of going “home”. So many are afraid but it comes to all of us.  My little great grandson is walking all over now. He will be 1 year the end of this month. Hard to believe it is July already. My oldest son will be 65 tomorrow.

SHIRLEY  if my DIL had told e she was taking “my” dog to go over that bridge I would have gone with her ad held her till her spirit left. My DIL knows how I felt about Abby so she didn't until she got home from the Vet. After all these years at times when I go there I look for my shadow.

Good night everyone. Want to be away from the computer before the storm gets here.

Jackie, is there any place you can check about your parking permit?  It just seems such a long time that you’ve been waiting.  I had to have my doctor sign a form, then mail it to the Secretary of State and I got the OK back in a few days.  I then had to go to the Secretary of State office near me to get the plate and I got a handicap tag plus the State mailed the license plate to me.  I sold my car earlier this year and Tom bought a car.  He needed my car registration so he could get a handicap plate because of me.  None of the actions took more than a week or two at the most.

I think of you an Benji often.  I remember when our dog died, no one could say a nice word to me for several days.

Gloria, I don’t remember where I had the mussels, but I think we were in Maine, a place called The Sugar Shack.  We were on a tour.  I wish we had been in those states longer so I could have had more sea food.  At The Sugar Shack, we had Clam Chowder, Mussels and Lobster.  I liked all of them OK, but I’m not a big fan of any of them.  I think the fish I prefer is Haddock, but I usually don’t know what kind of fish I am being served.

From the looks of the Weather Channel, Gloria De is in the midst of a storm.  I hope she has her water leak fixed by now.

Mary Ann, when I had the heart surgery & Dr's orders not to drive for a month, I put in for a handicap tag to use for a few weeks after the okay.... only the permit didn't come until long after I needed it so I just didn't go pick it up.  Was more than 2 months in the waiting.  My husband had a handicap tag for a couple years before he died... first over the mirror & later on the state tag.  He couldn't walk far, only a few steps without gasping for air....  he didn't need or use oxygen, just a weak heart muscle.

Gloria, I understand the attachment to your son's dog.... some animals are special and no denying it, they are as connected as any good human friend.  You might as well give up on sleep until you get that computer set up with everything you need.... the brain won't rest until you do.

I have spent the day looking for a pair of "last year's" glasses.  They were the transitions & I didn't wear them much since they didn't darken in the car when I needed dark, but now that I am wearing the old prescriptions for going down to the river, I would like to have them.  Alas, you know how it is, looked in every nook & cranny, purse & tote bag but know they will be where I looked FIRST & overlooked!  So frustrating~ I've looked in the RV & under seats in the car... becomes an obsession.

Got to get busy & do some chores before going to bed.  This is going to top all week ends.... 3 years tomorrow that Cas didn't wake up... a lot has happened since but right now it seems like last week. It puts a little damper on the holiday & always will.... the grands aren't sure how to handle it so I bring up the fact and we all agree he is in a much better place and not suffering.  They like to know it's okay to talk about him.  He was a bigger than life figure, they thought he could do anything (could, pretty much) but they were all a little afraid of him, of upsetting him.  My gr-father was a stern man & I felt the same about him, my other gr-father died the week of my 2nd birthday so I don't remember anything about him except his funeral.  So I'm rambling.... Good night to all, safe & happy holiday.  I will be flying my flag.

'Night, Jane... guess I'll turn out the light.

SANDY, your little Fe is darling...my goodness she has grown so much and I just can not believe she is already 2 months old.

Pleasant dreams to all.

R stayed up most of the night with Benji and morning, I awoke briefly to ask him if he was still up, think around 4.am, then I went back to sleep...I slept  to 5.45 am....Benji too was up and about, came towards me, still very much recognises me, tail wagging, even later I got some kisses but, he is no different to yesterday,re, his walking.....body and legs giving way, wobbling sideways, back end collapsing....I know his quality of life is now not good, we have a morning vet appointment but I am still hoping Benji comes back home with us, I just don't want this vet to do it....

Food For Thought

Priceless
(Author Unknown)

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $100 bill.

In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $100 bill?"

Hands started going up.

He said, "I am going to give this $100 to one of you but first, let me do this." He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air.

"Well," he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $100. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened, how unclean, crumpled or creased, you are still priceless to God."

Joan, Everyfriends, in 40 minutes time we are leaving for the vets, our normal surgery, not their sister surgery as yesterday although the only vet to be in today is the same Lithuanian vet from yesterday, I had already phoned to enquire, who else would be in...I honestly cant tell you whether we will be returning with or without our Benji, this vet is not the one I want to end his life....Benji in the end did eat his food, but only from our hand feeding...Yes it is now very obvious Benji has suffered a stroke....R is now out giving our Toby a short walk before we leave...

Good morning everyone..

We had a lovely rain last evening, the garden will surely come good now. There are flowers on the tomato plants, beans but nothing yet on the squash plants.

We too are off to the vet,Babe needs her needles brought up to date.My vet is so good to our animals, she doesn't make them get up on a table ,she gets down on the floor with them. Babe for some reason gets nervous as soon as we walk in and once I sit on the chair she is up on my knees. This is a 70lb dog,so not much knee left!

I did hear fireworks going off in the distance ,nothing close by to worry the dogs thankfully.I think the rain put a damper on most. The temp is 48°F this morning so I would think those camping in a tent if not prepared would be a tad chilly this morning.

Gloria, I miss the good ol cow cream ,I put that on everything porridge, berries ,made whipping cream ,buscuits and butter from it.

Shirley, hugs, today will be a difficult day but dwell on the happy memories.

June, the most strenuous work I did yesterday was iron so a very relaxing day for me.

Jackie, you and R are in my thoughts for the time ahead..

Jane, how is Ms Anne this morning?

Joan, thank you for Breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Both dogs were restless last night but I don't think Annie was scratching as much and that was only after one pill.  The vet said they've had very good results from this med and no unwanted side effects.  I hope that's true with Annie.  She also confirmed that she did not have fleas and that it was most likely an allergy.  I knew it wasn't fleas because Mickie is not itching or scratching at all.  I guess we'll just have to expect allergies in the Springs.   Thank you for asking about her Amy.

Shirley, did I forget to turn out the light again?  Thanks for doing that for me.  I hope June and Jenny and Jackie weren't stumbling around in the dark.

Jackie, please be sure that all of our thoughts and best wishes are with you and Benji today.  God's plan for him will be carried out.

I hope Everyfriend has the best possible day today!

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  I will be saying extra prayers for you all as you make the trip to see the vet.

Amy--Good morning.  We had LOUD thunder and lots of lightning last night, but not a drop of rain.  It was so fierce at one point that it knocked out my TVs, my computer and my phones.  I imagine the fireworks will be going off in earnest starting tonight.

Good morning, Janie.  Glad that Annie isn't itching quite so much.  Hopefully with a few more doses of medicine, she will be relieved.

We are back, so is Benji.....Vet said his temperature has gone down, not in pain but he is suffering, his eye movements from left to right are faster.....He couldn't give him his second injection as its not been 12 hours or more yet but, is on tablet form medication and another medication, the other medication told, he would be on that for the rest of his life...We have a reprieve if only till Sunday or Monday...The surgery is open for tomorrow Sunday for a couple of hours lunchtime, I am assuming by appointment, On Monday between certain times Vet Jeremy is in, we have made Benji's next appointment for him, mid morning.....In the surgery this morning a lovely couple, the fine dressed young lady stroked Benji in the empty waiting room, I told her this might be his last stroke...After she left reception, paid her bill or booked her appointment, on leaving as she reached the door, she gave me such a comforting hug and told me I will know when its time to do the best for him, I cried and thanked her saying.... " I really needed that..." When we reached home R lifted Benji out of the car, Benji started pulling and sniffing, got excited, so I said to R lets try walking down the slope a little, see how he does, well I was quite surprised how well he managed it, we got to the bottom, turned to the left, walked on the grass, Benji looked in his element, he was enjoying himself.....These are the moments to treasure and remember...
.....................................
Oh and when we reached indoors the post had arrived...I have my urinary bleed scan appointment come through for the 13th July,.... its to be at our more local Dorchester Hospital...We had to laugh, or rather I shouldn't....the instructions are telling me to come with a full bladder an hour before my appointment, I must drink one litre of water.... don't they know I have MS.... ??? that is an impossibility with my bladder functions....Plus I am to also have the Transvaginal internal scan, with this one I am told to empty my full bladder, I wont be able to hold my bladder for that long...another impossibility.....Of course they give a phone number if any questions, only that number keeps saying the person on the other end has hung up, so no means of querying....

Vanilla-Jackie--Since Benji couldn't have another shot yet, at least you were given some oral medication for him.  Nice you were able to take him for a walk--good memories.  How sweet of that lady in the vet's office was so caring.  Glad your other appointment came by mail.

Good Morning Everyone!

Coffee is on and brewing and read over most of the post.

Jackie, not much to add to what others have said.  It is a decision that maybe you wont have to make.  Just love and pamper him.  R seems to be giving you lots of support, which is good.

Tisie, bless you lady.  Time will temper things, as it always does.  It has gone by so fast.

Joanie, that is the way it was here the other night.  And no rain.  None in the forecast now for the next week or so.  It will be unusual for us to get any now for awhile.

Janie, my old German Shepard used to suffer from allergies and we had to give him steroids, which I think eventually killed him.

I haven't stuck my head out, so don't know how it is, but suspect that it is hot and humid, my old a/c is going full blast.

Anyhow, coffee should be done, if anyone wants a cup, follow me into the kitchen and then we will head to the patio if it isn't to humid.

Everyone have a good day.

Good morning everyone, well we did have some loud boomers last night and must have had some windy rain. When I pulled up the shades my windows were still wet. I did sleep god last night. No worries about this PC last night. Now it is sunny and 68°.

MARY ANN  I cooked so much fish when my sons were younger and loved fishing. I never cared much for it and still don't. Always looking for bones.

SHIRLEY  when it started getting hard for me to walk I asked the doctor I had then about a handicap tag and was told I would need to cross a politicians palm with green.  Then I asked the orthopedic doctor about it, he is the one who did the carpal tunnel surgery. He told me to go online and print out the form, fill it out and he would sign it. I did that, mailed it in to the registry of motor vehicles and had it in about 2 weeks. Now every 2 years I get a form to fill out in the mail, fill it out and mail it back. The I get a sticker to put on the original tag. When I go out with anyone I use the tag when we go anywhere. Oh I will have to replace many of the filters for PSP, some no longer work.

JACKIE  you do not want Benji to suffer either.

JOAN  cranberry coffee cake looks tasty. Last fall I was cleaning fresh cranberries before cooking them and at times would pop a raw one into my mouth. My CNA just looked at me surprised that I would eat them that way. I told her to try it and at first she made a face but then liked the different in the taste. Chuckles is just that this morning, #6 fits me. Priceless is so true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  dogs do seem to know a visit to the vet means needles or something frightening. When my oldest son was young he would not drink the milk that had the cardboard top on the glass bottles that would pop up when it started freezing  before I had a chance to bring them inside. He always said it was sour. No more milkmen around these days and milk is is plastic bottles or cardboard containers and are in the grocery stores.

JANE  hope that pill does help Annie. You have a good day, too.

JOAN  on local news this morning other places were really hit with the lightening and one person was struck. With my shades down I saw no lightening but sure heard the thunder, some sounded right over this building. First storm really since I moved here 2 years ago.

HAL I'll take you up on a cup of coffee even though I had 2 cups of it already. My AC ran all night and I shut it of this morning, nice and cool inside.

Hi everyone on this Saturday morning.  We are in for more hot and humid weather today with little to no chance of rain.  I have a quiet day planned with nothing that I really need to do although will probably make a quick trip to Aldi's to get some fresh fruits and vegetables.  I still need to do my outside chores but after working in the kitchen and getting ready for the day I needed to sit down and rest so decided to eat my breakfast and write on the discussions.

I called Scott yesterday afternoon about 5 pm to see if he would join us for a good steak dinner.  He thought that was a good idea and came out later.  He was very down when he got here but seemed to be in much better spirits when he left.  He told us that good memories with his wife are beginning to push out some of the not so good memories of when she was so sick for so long.  Hopefully this will be a much brighter year for him.

Hal, enjoy your quiet weekend.  We live within about 2 miles of 2 very large firework stores that operate all year as far as I know.  However, I won't be visiting them.  It wasn't too bad noise wise here last year and I hope it is the same this year.  Apparently there is a big fireworks display over the Savannah River downtown but we won't be getting into any crowds to watch it.

Gloria, do a quick Google search on "screen timeout in windows 7" and you will find numerous descriptions of what to do to change the situation.  The information for Windows 10 can also be found this same way.  Your mention of Pat bringing us back together after the mess with SeniorNet reminds me that she can use some help with the costs of the website (it isn't free) and it has been quite awhile since I made any contribution.

Joan, the charge to fix your bumper sounds very reasonable.

Jackie, I can't think of anything to say that will help your sadness at this moment.  However, know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary Ann, that sounds like a nice sized refrigerator and hope it gives you years of service.  When they install the refrigerator they should be able to move the door to the other side.  At least that is what happened to us.  They had to remove the door anyway to get it in the house when it was delivered.

June, I agree with you about Hospice.  They were so good in taking care of Stacey the last 48 hours of her life and making things as easy as they could for us like providing blankets and pillows for us.

Shirley, it is very thoughtful of you to bring up the grandchildren's grandfather to let them know it is fine to talk about and remember him.

Joan, funny stuff this morning and such a nice Food for Thought.  None of us are worthless as God doesn't make junk and he loves each of us.

Larry, I hope this refrigerator outlasts me.  After I am gone, Tom hopes to buy my condo so it will be a good fit for him.  I remember the first electric refrigerator I bought was 7 cu ft.  It had a drawer on the bottom, but was not refrigerated.

Gloria, when my dad caught fish and deboned them, I always worried about the bones, too.  They do a better job commercially and I don't worry about them.

I've had a few dogs in my life and I miss them as they were good companions, however, I can't have a dog here and Annie's cat tries to fill the empty space.

Glad to see you are all up and about.  I'll have a cup of coffee, too, Hal.  Don't get up.  I'll pour my own and join you on the patio.

I have 9 half pints of black raspberry jam cooling on the kitchen counter and enough leftover in the fridge for a piece of toast tomorrow morning.  Well I do have to test it, don't I?

My eyes really hurt this morning and so does my back so I'm going to go do the back exercises and probably end up sawing a log or two when I'm finished.  Enjoy your morning Everyfriend.

Good morning, halkel.  All around us they got rain, but none here.  I'll join you for coffee.

Gloria--Good morning.  You were told to cross a politicians hand with green to get a handicap tag?  What a lot of malarky. I don't like cranberries cooked or uncooked.  A middle age woman was standing at the edge of the beach and ocean here and got struck by lightning--which killed her.  Strange because there was no sign of any storm.

Good morning, Larry.  Glad Scott's visit and meal with you and Pat lifted his spirits.  Those days are hard.  I thought the cost to fix my car was reasonable.

Mary Ann--Good morning.  I really don't worry about bones in fish--just use a little caution.

Janie--Of course you have to test the jam.:)

I worked until 10:00 PM last night and gave up for the day, leaving the skid steer tied on the fence between us and a neighbor to hold it up temporary.

Cranberries are good in any form.  And my wife makes a cranberry cake that I could eat every speck of it if I let myself.  I always have to cut the berries up that she uses in it.  She buys fresh cranberries and freezes them to make the cake when the berries are out of season.

Joanie, a storm doesn't have to be in the area: "Positive lightning is particularly dangerous, because it frequently strikes away from the rain core, either ahead or behind the thunderstorm. It can strike as far as 5 or 10 miles (8 or 16 kilometers) from the storm, in areas that most people do not consider to be a lightning-risk area."

Good Morning dear friends, we have a fairly deep overcast this morning, which I find very pleasant. Nice and cool with some feeling of moisture in the air. In Hemet they will be in the nineties all week. I am so glad I moved to Stanton, even tho I really miss my friends.

Jackie, all of us who have had beloved pets can understand what a terrible time you and R. are going through. You are both dog lovers, that is easy to see. I recall handfeeding my Petey, little bits of white meat chicken when he quit eating. I carried him up to our Vet to have him put down when he could no longer walk. Fortunately our Vet was just blocks away. I didn't cry, until the shots took hold and Petey died. Walking away and leaving him was the hard part...I just sobbed.

Larry, your daughter was a real soldier through her long illness as were you and your wife. I remember Stacey taking her wheel chair off to shop nearby. She faced life fully on. And now your son is having a time of grief too. Life is not always fun and games, but we can't let sorrow beat us down either. We are no good to anyone if that happens, and we can do a lot of harm to ourselves.

Amy, I left my iron behind when I moved to Rowntree, and I am not sorry. So if some of my slacks aren't real sleek anymore, no one else cares, so why should I. Most everything else is of a fabric that does not require ironing.

I'm trying to convince myself to make use of the rest of the morning..there is a stack of snail mail that needs answering....mostly from friends back in Hemet, and I have a long order to send to Von's Market, so hopefully some of that will be done.

June--Still hot and humid here and no rain.  If I step outside I can smell the smoke coming from the brush fires.  We desperately need rain.  I, too, left my iron behind when I moved here from Arkansas.  If it needs ironing, it doesn't belong in this house.:)

I love the attitude of no ironing.  Unfortunately, I have some clothes that, without ironing, would look like I slept in them...for a week...outside...in the rain!  I'm not ready for that look, June, more for me than for anyone else.

My daughter stopped by and we had a nice chat.  She always does her errands on Saturday and I'm right in the middle of them.  I guess I'm one of her errands but she seems to enjoy these visits as much as I do.  She had a bit of lunch and some raspberries while she was here.  So it was a good stop in more ways than one.

The kitchen is all cleaned up but I'm going back out and start to dirty it again.  I'm going to make something new for supper.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

Lloyd, thanks for the offer of a cheap place to live but your smack in the middle between my kids and they're not getting any younger either so I might never see them again.  Although I'm sure it would be nice to be near you and Nancy, I'd surely miss my family.

Larry, it's so good that you moved nearer Scott and he can have some time with you instead of having to bear the difficult days alone.  It sounds like it was a good deal for all of you.  Families are good to have around whether you NEED them or just WANT them.

I hope Everyfriend is having a nice, relaxing day!

Good Afternoon,  Everyone!

Well,  I did it again!   I walk down the street and
bought me a quart of chocolate and a quart of
butter pecan icecream,  two jars of skippy peanut butter
and some natural graham crackers.

I brought it home and had a little bit of
everything.....   and of course,  I felt
very guilty.

Erin has gone away for the fourth and
I am here with all of these calories
that I don't need,  and that I can not
stop eating.

So I packed it all up and headed to throw it
away down the trash,  but instead I stopped
at one of my neighbors apartment,
knock on their door and asked  them if
they would like it.    Thank goodness
they did take it all!!

I am weak, weak, weak...   so I had to
dispose of it or I would eat it all in a
couple of days.

I removed the temptation and I feel better
already!

Am I the only one who gives into
temptation,  and then has to give
things away?

Have a happy fourth of July,
everyone!

Sandy

Trip to the vet was uneventful. I am so blessed to have such a caring vet and her staff. Babe was a nervous as a cat with a long tail in a room full of rocking chairs. Once everything was done and Babe had been needled and checked from stem to stern was she happy to go back in the van..with the treat the vet gave her .
On the way home we saw a doe and her spotted fawn, the doe was trying to cross the road and it was bumper to bumper traffic. I sure hope she changed her mind!

Laundry done line dried and now folded and put away. Time to relax

Amy, the first time I ever heard that "nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs", I was on my lunch break from my first real grown up job and watching Tennessee Ernie Ford Show while eating.  He said it and I never forgot it and I've used it so many times since.  I bet that was 60 years ago.

I know that look of the dogs wanting to leave.  When I had Annie there this week, the vet opened the door to the hall and Annie bolted!  Vet said "She's gonna show you the way out".

Good morning from another cloudy, Interior day!  Jackie, I am so sorry about Benji. It wasn't that long ago that I lost Sarah after a week of illness. We can only love them and remember to let them go with love when it is time.

I know that with my pets, they've always associated vets with pain and wanted no part of it or them!

Amy, I remember one time that a bull moose had come up the paved bicycle path from the river and actually waited at the crosswalk for the light to change before walking across. What a law abiding moose that was!

We had a very nice potluck yesterday in the courtyard for the 4th. I am also one who wonders why we keep switching dates? Anyway, along with the grilled chicken, hotdogs, and hamburgers, we had a treat of minted watermelon popsicles that one of our residents brought. They were so good and gone far too fast!

I was planning on something fancy but as usual, real life intervened and I only made a white cake and instead of frosting, covered it with a mixture of frozen berries and a sugar syrup. We have so many native berries here, along with both high and low bush cranberries. I used to pick them but now purchase them at one of the farmers markets.

Just freeze them separately on cookie sheets and then place in bags either with their own type or with a group together. They are so good!

On some days Farrah is skittish, remaining in the bedroom, and on others, she remains out and plays with her toys. Yesterday she actually spent time sleeping on the end of my bed with me in it, that was a surprise!

Janie--I really don't have any clothes that need ironing.  I get things right out of the dryer and hang them and a few things I take to the dry cleaner.  Nice that your daughter can stop by when she's doing errands.  Let us know what "new" you fixed for supper.

Sandy--Nice of you to give your "temptation" to neighbors.  I don't have calorie problems--I need pounds.

Amy--Glad all went well at the vet.  I've never heard the saying "nervous as etc." but see Janie has.

Angelface--Great you had a nice potluck.  Minted watermelon popsicles sound good.

Well if I ever say anything about my life being dull or boring, bring out the whip  :whip2:

First of all, on Thursday night while watching Perry Mason (mostly through my eyelids) I accidently set off my medical alert button.  At just about midnight the phone rang, scaring the dickens out of me, i ignored the ID 800 number thinking someone was playing games.  Then about 10 minutes later the front windows lit up bright so I went (in my flimsy summer nightgown  :D ) to the front door.  Two huge spotlights mounted on a large rescue vehicle were shining on the front of my house.  I man was walking across the lawn and asked if I was OK and was I alone.  Then he explained that the 800 number phone call was the medical alert company checking and when I didn't answer they immediately sent the rescue team.  I felt about 1/2 inch tall, ashamed at calling the crew out, especially at that hour, but after apologizing and thanking, I told them I was glad in a way, because now I can be sure what a great job of responding they would do if really needed.

Ok, that took care of that incident.

Then on Friday I tried to order a refill of a prescription using my new health providers number, only to have the pharmacy call back and tell me it wasn't covered.  So a call to the insurance company and they informed me that although they had cancelled by previous Part D coverage, the policy I have been issued did not cover Part D.  So, after a lot of time negotiating I was assured that as of August 1 my prescriptions would be covered but I would be required to have a checkup with my regular doctor - which I set up for that afternoon.  There had been a change of staff at the satellite clinic in town, so I had to hook jp with a new doctor or PA, which  was no problem.  Of course that meant that I still had no prescription coverage.

In taking the normal blood pressure, breathing, pulse, etc. tests the PA that was taking me on decided thing were dangerously out of kilter and arranged for me to be taken by ambulance to the hospital for more testing and treatment.  Turns out the first tests the hospital ER ran gave me BP readings that were through the roof and I was not getting anywhere enough oxygen with my breathing.  So I was admitted and I'm still here.

I found out I would have no trouble getting online with the hospital's free internet access.  So I had my dear friend Carol, the one who takes me food shopping, get my Kindle Fire and my Mac laptop.  And here I am.  I may be going home tomorrow - or not yet.  The doctor handling my case here wants to see the reactions to meds- both oral and IV after tonight.   Also,  things have been set up for a visiting nurse to check on me about twice  a week after I get home.  And they are supplying a month's supply of the refill I need and are adding two new meds which they are ordering from Walmart (Janie, I'll look for your smiling face) at $4 each.  Carol will take me there to pick them up and then home to hopefully get over all this recent trauma.

Like I said, don't ever let me say again that my life is dull or boring!

And now I'll go back and see what I've missed here in the SS.

After all these 90 deg days for 3 weeks. it sure cool today. Even getting cold in the house. Will have to put on a heavy robe tonight if I want to sit and be comfy.
Hope things dont get rained out for the town over the 4th. That happened last year.

I have Lawrance Welk on at the moment. Could get up and dance around.

Bis, I well know how that smell of smoke is, it just spells out danger, to humans and animals and natural growing things. It seems like Florida is getting to be as dry as our So. Ca. I think we may have passed the record for lack of rain by now.

I did not get anything at all accomplished today except going down for lunch and visiting with dear people at the table. I did a lot of bed rest. reading and dozing, and just now some deep sleep. Live is getting sort of weird, but changes have to be acknowledged and accepted..no choice really.

Janie, you are a "doer" and a "gooder", and I am proud of you. I hope the day never comes that you have to put on the brakes. I like to think of you as one of those 100 + young women still going strong. A man was pointed out to me today, he is 105. uses a walker, dresses nice and neatly and has many friends here. Puts me to shame.

Sandy, of course we give in to temptation, and I am glad you gave yourself a break with the ice cream…you should have kept the butter pecan. My favorite, but my stomach won't allow me the joy of eating nuts anymore.

Jeanne Lee, we have both realized through experience that "boring" is a blessing. I hope and pray all will be worked out easily as far as your meds are convened. I am a good friend of high blood pressure problems and am trying another new one now.

JeanneP. do it girl, dance to Mr. Welk. He places the right music for dancing, and dancing is beautiful !! Even done hanging onto a four wheeled card which I do.

Sandy, life is too short for us to deny ourselves a treat now and then. You have done so well with your dieting, so you have earned the right to treat yourself now and then.

Well, I did it again..went down to hear George Rossi play and sing to us, and he did it again...played pretty woman, and I had to go tuck myself into the background and dance through the whole song. I hope I make it to Church tomorrow. There is something about that tune that just gets me on my feet, so my partner (my cart) and I had ourselves some fun.

Time to tuck my bones into bed and read myself to sleep. God keep you all in peaceful sleep this night. I send you Prayers, Love, and big Hugs. June

My thoughts are with you tonight, Jeanne Lee, praying this is short term and you will be back to your feisty self quick.  Scary when life gets out of control.  Hugs to you.  Shirley
