"Has your son decided what
he wants to be when he grows up?"
I asked my friend.

"He wants to be a garbageman,"
he replied.

"That's an unusual ambition to have at such a young age."
"Not really. He thinks that garbagemen work only on Tuesdays."

I had just pulled over someone for driving under the influence when another car pulled up behind us. I stopped what I was doing and ventured back to see if the driver needed assistance.

"No, I don't need any help," he said, reeking of booze. Then, pointing to the flashing cherry top on the roof of my cruiser, he continued, "I just stopped for the red light."

Q. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words "Wednesday," "Friday," or "Sunday"?

You answer?

My Birthday is not quite over, but there is no chance now of Jonah making his appearance on November 30th❣️I spoke to his mama a couple of hours ago and she is doing well and very anxious for this baby to arrive.

I thank you all for the very nice Birthday greetings, and sweet comments about the baby arriving on June and My day.  I guess he decided he wants to share his Birthday Month with Jesus.

JUNE, I am so happy you also had a wonderful day with your Gary and Dori.  There is nothing finer than precious time spent with our children.

I wish you all a very good night of rest, and Happy December to EVERYFRIEND.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's in the mid 20s here right now but supposed to warm up later and that's good because we are also supposed to have precipitation.  If it stayed cold, it could be freezing rain or snow but it's predicted to be only plain old rain....AGAIN!

BUBBLE, my mind went totally blank when I read your riddle this morning and when ideas came in all I could think of was using abbreviations to identify the days....Sun. Mon, Tue?  or maybe dates...Dec, 1, 2, 3?  They're probably both wrong but I sure do have something to occupy my mind today!

JENNY, sharing  birth month with Jesus is a good thing, too.  I hadn't thought of that possibility.  And that' the first time I heard you mention his name.  Jonah is a nice name!

I'm going to go get dressed while we await the boinger this morning so I can get an early start on my errands and then if Cathy calls about going to Wengers I can go.  I like going to the Amish Store but I really enjoy being with my daughter!

I talked to the insulation guy yesterday and they will be here sometime next week!  Things are beginning to fall into place but it sure took a long time!

I wish you all a happy day doing exactly as you wish!  Grab the day and make it your own in every way!

Added note!  Yep!  I think AMY's right about the days.  Boy!  she's smart, isn't she!  She gets them all!

Good morning !

Amy, you beat me to the answer to BUbble's riddle.  I was just getting in here to give the same answer !

A cold morning, but supposed to be up in the 60's tomorrow.  Then, cold again.  Really are having crazy weather patterns lately.  The weather guy has been saying it is to be a rainy day, but the sun is shining brightly right now.

I have been awake for a while, but  have done nothing but did some googling on the computer.  Had to look up a couple things and now must go get some breakfast.

Have a good Saturday.

Good morning everyone 28° and a heavy frost this morning, looks almost like a light layer of snow.

LLOYD  have a wonderful trip and enjoy the warmer temperatures in Florida.

LARRY  for most days this past week the mornings were sunny but at noon it started clouding up and got windy.

GLORIA  de  unless my jacket is lightweight I have to lay it out on the bed and then sit on the bed and reach back to put my arms in. I have to do that with my fleece robe, too. That is a pain.

JANE  on my great grandson's first birthday my grandson and his wife asked for books for him, I liked that one.

JUNE  glad you had Gary and Dori with you to celebrate your birthday, that made it special.

BUBBLE  thank you for a new page with 2 beautiful graphics.
Good jokes. Hmm would those 3 days be yesterday Today and Tomorrow?

AMY  on the evening news yesterday the weather guru said it was snowing, I looked out and it was all dry here. I wonder where his brain was.

JANE  like you I am hoping we do not get more rain for a few weeks at least.

Have a good day on  this first day of December.

Hi Everyone.  We have an overcast morning, not really very chilly and a good possibility of some rain this morning.  I do plan on attending my Saturday meeting and also making a stop a Aldi's for a couple of grocery items we need.  In mid-afternoon and this evening I look forward to two conference Championship football games.  The first involves the University of Georgia and the second Clemson University.  Hopefully they will both be competitive games.

Lindancer, glad you were able to attend your Homemakers group and teach the class.  I hope you have warmed up from the cold outside.  Maybe the Plavix is why I am cold a lot of the time.

Jane, glad you found a position to stand that wasn't as painful on your back as before.  When our Church as an infant baptism we often sing Jesus Loves Me as the proud parents go up and back down the center isle of the Church.

June, it sounds like Gary and Dori treated you well yesterday on your birthday and didn't give you anything that has to sit on a shelf, at least permanently.  I am glad you felt like enjoying your Birthday.

Mycheal, was your birthday in November?

Bubble, thanks for getting us started on a new month.  You are so talented with your graphics.

Jenny, another day of anticipation for you and your family as you wait for the new baby to be born.

Roley, good morning.  It sounds like you have had a good day to stay inside.

Amy, you are very good at the riddles.  We will probably have more laundry in our house today but no baking.

Joy, isn't the computer great for looking up things?  We are expecting some rain here this morning but should end by 3 pm or earlier.  There is a big Christmas Parade to occur this afternoon so hope it is a comfortable temperature and dry for it so there is a good turnout.

Gloria, my wife has a problem putting on some of her clothes and her coat.  She also has a sore shoulder and neck.  She has ordered some light weight mixing bowls and we are retiring the ones we have used for many years as they are too heavy to get out of the cabinet.  It is good to get kids interested in books at an early age and they have some that are pretty indestructible and suitable for young children.

Gloria and Larry, I have a right shoulder problem too and I find I have to put on sweaters or coat with my right arm first.  It helps if I have some help in putting on my coat and I'm so thankful for good weather when I don't have to wear an outer thing.  Otherwise, it has to be right arm first.  I can manage, but 'taint easy!

We're at 34 degrees and I expect it to stay around there all day.  I can't go anywhere anyway because Tom is gone for most of the day.  Even if he was home I wouldn't go anywhere because I don't drive any more.

Happy December Oneth!

There were tornadoes in eastern Oklahoma last night!  OKC area had thunder and hail.

I was watching a PBS program with my "t.v. ears" in so didn't realize it was hailing until I heard a big thunder clap.   A friend 2 miles west of me reported the storm damaged her outdoor Christmas decorations but it must have been moving straight north because we had nothing like that here.  Hail I heard sounded like pebbles on the roof.

I was watching a musical production of "Holiday Inn'.  Same theme as movie "White Christmas" but very different story.  An excellent production and very entertaining.

Not sure how much decorating I'll get done today because my Sooners are playing arch-rival Texas for the Conference Championship.  OTOH,  if they play like they did during the regular season, I won't want to see the results.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

My sit down wants to do just that "sit down!" I have the laundry done, blueberry pie baked and Frangipani tarts in the oven. When they are done apple muffins are next and you will find some and tarts in the hidey hole.

Maybe a cup of tea will give me some energy to get going!

As of yet no rain which is fine with me..

I got all my running around done this morning and I scratched about 13 things off my list.  It makes me tired just to think about it but I happy with my morning.

I had a coupon for Barnes&Noble and we have one of those stores in Lewisburg.  So I went in there and looked around and I ended up getting The Elf on the Shelf to send to Emma.  I hope to get it off this week so they can get the tradition started.  The gal who is responsible for this, grew up in Lewisburg and is still here.  Her parents started a restaurant many years ago that grew into a well-known landmark restaurant/gift and garden center.  I knew her mother when Carol was just a little girl in Girl Scouts and her mothe was a leader.  So I kind of watched her grow up.  She still owns the restaurant and is very active in running it. Her parents are no longer involved.

DON if you happen to look in, I just saw a picture in the paper of a gentleman that I used to work with.  He has outfitted himself to be Santa.  He grew a beard and all that.  And he already had the body proportions that make up Santa  The picture looks really authentic.  He will be receiving children in a small town about 15 minutes away and it has his hours printed.  I'm tempted to take a drive up there and have a look.

Now I'm going to go in the kitchen and mix the gumdrops.  They take a while to set so I probably won't be able to finish them until tomorrow.  They're not hard to do but they take time.

MARY ANN, I'm always impressed with your sense of humor and your ideas for "when things need to be done....or not

I'm off!  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Thank you, Jane.  My sense of humor is more on the "dry" side and I can find humor in situations that are not humorous.  I have to watch when sending cards to people because with the proper inflection, what I say can be sarcastic - and with the written word, that can be dangerous.

🐳 A  N  T  I  C  I  A  P  A  T  I  O  N  🐳

It has been a quiet Saturday around here.....mostly watching football!

Congratulations, CALLIE, to your Sooners for beating Texas.

I made a big pot of chicken noodle soup and it turned out yummy!  After my big feast yesterday for my Birthday, soup was all that I needed.  We went to Fogo de Chow, a Brazilian Steak House.  They have a fabulous salad bar and they come around with big Scwers of meat that they slice for you.  You can have all the meat you want and they are not shy with the cuts either.  I had mostly beef tenderloin and it melted in my mouth.....I ended up with a Lamb chop that was cooked just perfect.  They really took very good care of us and seemed to be very impressed that I like my meat very rare.

After that delicious meal, we went to the Apple Store where my honey bought me a beautiful iWatch. I have been thinking about one but really did not think I would ever buy one.  Bob calls it my new "life line"!  It is a series 4 that does all the heart checks, even does a EKG, and, if you fall down and do not respond it calls medical service for you.  It tells you all kinds of things and of course I have no idea how to do anything on it, so have spent most of the da6 reading all I can about it.  The good news is, I have until the 8th of January to take it back with no questions asked!  That should give me plenty of time to see if I can figure it out.

JANE, I thought sharing the month of birth with Jesus was wonderful, just so Jonah does not decide to wait to be born ON Jesus' actual birth day❣️

AMY, I sure enjoyed those beautiful flowers opening up.....I even watched it twice.  Thank you for sharing.

DON, I, too, thought of you being Santa, as I viewed a really cute picture of one of my little cousins sitting on Santa's lap crying his eyes out!  The look on Santa's face was hilarious It made me wonder how you keep that have handled a little on that was acting that way? I am sure you are missed this year at the mall. 😢

I did things a bit backward today but that's me. I spent a quiey day at home, had some of yesterdays Birthday Banquet for lunch and it was as tasty today as yesterday, but I missed the company. I am attempting to get a bunch of thank you cards written....did two, ate lunch, and fell sound asleep for a couple of hours. Hopefully I'll get more done after Church tomorrow. Still have more chicken to enjoy.

We are having one of my favorite singers/guitar player performing tonight but my body keeps telling me to stay home...mind wants to go sing...

Jenny, your new Grandchild is not ready to leave his warm nest yet, so Mama will have to be patient. I hope you enjoyed our special day as much as I did, and I still am...enjoying left over chicken, candy and flowers. My kids know me so well...and I feel so Blessed.

It's time to think of what I want to sup on tonite...not really hungry but eating is a must. I lost another pound...105 at my last Drs. visit. All my adult life I weighed in the low to mid forties. Now all my slacks and jeans want to fall off.

Have a beautifully peaceful night my dear ones. I'm still undecided about going down for entertainment. The old gray Mare still wants to live a bit on the wild side. <G> Love you kids. God Bless us all.....June

AMY, that's great that you're actually making the crackers.  They are so easy and so good.  Everywhere I take them everyone says how good they are.  At least three people have asked me at work if I'm bringing I crackers this year.  I am!

I have two kinds of gumdrops cooling so I can cut them in shapes and sugar them tomorrow.  If I had another cookie sheet, I'd have the red ones cooling two but I'm short one good one.  I have some with no edges but they have to be a certain size with edges all around.  I'll cut the green ones tomorrow and then mix the red ones and set them to cool.  I should be able to cut them by early evening.  I also made roasted peanuts this afternoon and tonight and I'll pack them for giving tomorrow when they are cool.

I tried to take a short nap this afternoon but as soon as I got nicely settled, both dogs decided it was time to go out.  That ended that idea.

Tomorrow morning is church and I'm a lector.  It's also the first soup sale of the season.  We sell to church members at both services and the profits benefit our Outreach program.  Five people volunteer to make soup for a Sunday so it's all donations and whatever the sale brings in is profit.  I'm a soupmaker for tomorrow.  We call ourselves "The Order of the Golden Ladle". I'm donating some of my vegetable soup.  I'll also buy a jar of something someone else made. We do this once a month through the winter months.

MARY ANN, I have to be careful when I joke about something to.  I guess I have a kind of "sideways" humor, too and it could be taken wrong.  I guess that's why I don't really like texting!

JENNY, I hope Jonah doesn't wait to share Jesus birthday, too.  Your DIL will be very uncomfortable if he does.  Sounds like you had a nice dinner for your birthday!

JOY, I hope you won at cards!  Well, I hope you didn't lose too badly if you didn't win.  Either way, I hope you had fun!

Now I'm going to close this up and put some things away and try to get into bed early since the doggies didn't let me sleep!  Goodnight Everyfriend!  Sleep well and may God bless us, every one!

P.S.  I'm going back and look at AMY's video before I shut down.

well I was about to welcome you girls for being up and at them then I took another look and Sean what i was reading was your yesterday's activity.
oh well have a great day just as you like it anyway. it is cloudy and 36º
Here at 5:45 A M. and I never found 8 of my cattle that got out yesterday.so we are going to get some horses saddled and go hunting on horse Back today. there are several acres of timber back of me on my sisters and some other neighbors. they are having a heyday.I had the fence between us and my brother open and a electric fence around his place. it worked good until a deer ran into it and broke it. when a deer
hits it they run wield and string the smooth electric wire out.of course they are on the out side and they strung it a long distance into the pasture and left it wide open for the cattle to run free range. I fixed the fence between me and my brother back permanently so when i fiend and get my cattle back home they will have to stay home. after the first of the year I an going to cut my numbers down some and then take some time in Florida at Tampa Bay. and get some more sea shell's.

Woke to rain and the temp is sitting at 0° F, can see it being very slippery out there!

I may try and get the shortbread cookies done later today. Wonder if Jonah has said hello world yet?

Jane,I have broken the odd on and I know just where to put it. Still good even without the chocolate on it. :)

Lloyd, no fun in chasing cattle, especially when one spooks and off they go again.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, 40° this AM and raining. Last week was weird, mornings sunny and by noon it started to cloud up by 1pm the clouds got dark, no rain but gloomy. Both my sons showed up here yesterday, so nice having both here at the same time.

LARRY when my 3 were little I read to them every night when they got into bed. They will talk about it at times. My oldest and youngest are readers like me, middle likes the newspaper and reading carpentry things. No novels for him. I had my right shoulder replaces 7 or 8 years ago but my left one was going to be done and the insurance I had dropped that orthopedic group and I sure could not afford it. Now I cannot do much with it.

AMY  never had any food with Frangipani in it, something different. I used to love lemon tarts but no longer make them, easier to make the pie.

JANE  do you have all your shopping done yet? I do miss getting into the stores at Christmas time when everything looks joy ful and most people look happy and friendly.

AMY love the time lapse photography of flowers opening. I had on of those clips that were all cacti flowers opening. Amazing how such plants with those sharp needles all over can have such beautiful flowers.

I know it is early but my eyes are closing on me. Did not sleep good last night, more like dozing on and off.
Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  It is a warm 65 degrees here this morning and raining on and off.  It is suppose to get up to 77 degrees this afternoon and we are to have scattered thundershowers throughout the day.  Last night on the weather they indicated we could be in for some severe storms but I don't see that in the forecast this morning.  I am not attending Church today as I just don't have the energy to get out.  I just plan on a very quiet and peaceful day.  Yesterday I did go to my meeting and then stopped at Aldi's.  I told Pat last night I think that may be my last visit to Aldi's as it was tough for me yesterday even though I didn't have much to get.  We will probably do most of our shopping for groceries online at Walmart in the future.  I was sorry to see Georgia lost to Alabama last evening in the SEC Championship game although they played a very fine game.  However, Clemson, did win the ACC Championship for the 4th year in a row, which sets a new record of consecutive winds.  I see our nation will be flying its flags at half mast for 30 days, starting yesterday, in honor of George H. W. Bush.  He sure lived a long and full life.

Callie, your Oklahoma Sooner's did well in their game yesterday.  Glad you didn't get any storm damage. I saw this morning where Illinois had a bad tornado last night.  It is going to be so warm here today there may be some severe storms in our state or over in Georgia.

Amy, it sounds like you need to rest and recharge your batteries.  Hope you got the baking done you had planned.

Jane, glad you were able to scratch off so many items on your to do list.  It sounds like you had a long list.  We have a gift store downtown and when I drove by their billboard they were advertising an "Elf on the Shelf" sale.  I didn't realize that it was a book.  That is an interesting background story.  If you go see Santa are you going to sit on his lap and tell him what you want for Christmas.  ::)  The soup sales sound like a wonderful thing that your Church does.

Mary Ann, I am shocked sometimes when I see what is printed on greeting cards and I wouldn't think of sending them to anyone.

Jenny, another day and no new grandson.  Maybe today will be the day.  Congratulations on your new iWatch.  I will probably get one for myself once they have the EKG function in their software. Is that now available to you.  I also like the fall detection feature.   I was talking with a friend from Church about hers, which was a first generation one, and she said she loves it.  I would also like the ability to answer a call without taking my phone out of it holder.  I hope you like the Watch.  I have never been to a Brazilian Steak House but that sure sounds good.

June, I hope you feel up to attending your Church service today.  It sounds like you are really enjoying the KFC and how are the chocolates?

Lloyd, it seems that cattle can be so ornery when they get the chance and they like to explore new pastures.  When I was growing up our most of our pasture was across and up the road a bit and occasionally the cows would decide they didn't want to go into the gate and would either get in the front yard rather than go into the barn yard or the other direction would try to run past the pasture gate.  I always like it in the winter when they could stay in the pasture area associated with the barn and we didn't have to take them to the other location.  I hope you find your cattle today.  Is Bob going to help you.

Gloria, we always read to our two children and saw that they had many books.  Pat and I were always reading as well.  However, neither of them ever cared to read very much.

Good morning, raining hard. For some reason I feel light headed this AM
. Bought a small humidifier to keep by the computer. Ias I am inclined to have nose bleeds again

[Larry, the foot doctor said come back in 2 weeks, slow healing because of poor circula,  Hope you feel better, not like you to miss church

Gloria I always read to Dennis and Mark at bed time. I read a lot of poetry, They also keep  reading. infact Mark wrote a book of poetry.=4][/size]

Sandy and Amy thanks

June, I see you are still enjoying your day after birthday, I can make KFC last two days

Amy and Jane, Maybe years ago I could have kept up to the two of you, but not now. I use to start my Christmas baking about the 1st.

Mary Ann, I was up on and off a lot last night, so was Taffy, so she still is in bed.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was up early and got myself ready for church.  I looked in on the Soda Shoppe but the last entry was mine of last night so I didn't take the time to say anything before church.  I've been busy since I came home and now I'm having lunch with the doggies.

AMY, when I sit at the table to spread the crackers with PB, the doggies wait patiently under the table for pieces of broken ones.  I never get to eat the broken ones.  I don't give them PB though.  I'm always afraid they might choke.

When I'm finished here, I'm going to go cut the green gumdrops.  If I have time, I'll cut the cranberry ones and mix the red ones.  I had a text from my daughter on my way home from church asking me if I'd like to go to the Christmas show at the local college with them.  I would and they're picking me up around 7.  It should be a nice show.  I haven't seen it for a while so things change and it will probably be different.

I just had a bowl of the Taco Soup that I bought at the soup sale and it was delicious!  I have enough left for another lunch and that will be tomorrow...if I don't eat it for supper tonight!

Now I have to get started on cutting the gumdrops.  Later friends!  Enjoy your day!

I'll jump in with my day so far... how about early church, McDonalds with Andy & Pam & home to put up a few Christmas decorations (just in the entry hall)... and for a nap with Tiger. She loves to share my corner of the foot of the bed when I nap during the day, insists on sleeping with her face right in my face or she circles around to put her face on my arm & her tail in my face. Either way it isn't a sound sleep for me, but she purrs every time I move so it makes her happy.

Time to finish making the spaghetti sauce, cooked the meat last night (about 2 pounds of the leanest ground beef plus a whole pack of Johnville Italian sausage) that I strip the casings off & crumble with the beef. I will saute a whole chopped onion & a couple large cloves of garlic plus more herbs & spices & combine the meat & 2 of the large cans of Hunts original spaghetti sauce.  I can freeze this in various sizes so I know how much spaghetti to cook when I pull a tub out of the freezer. Since I will fix some to eat today I will fill single serve size tubs to nuke when I'm out camping.

Then I'm going out to trim my holly bush to use for decorations. I'd like to cut off the whole top & decorate instead of any other tree. Still have one of the stands with the screws to hold upright & to water during it's house stay.  Not sure I want to drag the ladder around back to do the job, it's really windy & that bush is so sharp to work with, besides, the ground under is not level so asking for trouble, right? Think I talked myself out of it.

I didn't know holly would grow so tall, we've cut it way back many times because it is too close to the house & will reach the peak of the roof & scratch the paint. I have a super long (& heavy) extendible lopper & trim a couple times a year, but it is heavy & one part of the bush is next to 3 floor to ceiling windows that would cost an arm & leg to replace if I lost control of the lopper. Love how I make decisions, huh?  :-\

The Old Gray Mare did go down for the program last night, I sang along, and Danced the last song...."Silent Night". A very slow, thoughtful dance, but needed.

Larry, The chocolates are all milk choc. covered cherries....scrumptious!  Dori gives them to me every year. Still enjoying KFC, a favorite. Yes, I did go to Church this morning, and now home and "in" for the rest of the day. No need to go down for food. Flowers are still beautiful. All my shopping is done "on line" now. I type up a grocery list for Gary and he calls it in to the market of our choice, and it is delivered free the same day. We alway add a 10 dollar tip as they do not charge for delivery.
I still place orders on Amazon for personal things and since I pay a small yearly charge called Prime, there is no delivery fee.

Gloria de....I wish I had some of your rain. I get nose bleeds off and on too.
And the arteries in my legs are clogged, so If I cut a leg it takes forever for a simple sore to heal.....arms are affected too. It is called Peripheral Artery Disease. PAD for short. Affects the arms also. I turned 94 years on last Friday, and President Bush died that day at 94. I am going to finish most of the KFC  today but still one big piece I will put in the freezer...wrapped up tightly in foil.

Janie....you make me feel like a lazy bum.....I do NO baking or cooking anymore. the most I cook is from a can or frozen food. I had my day though. And I loved it. I let my kids decorate cookies and what a mess that was, but it was worth it. My favorite thing was my Mother in laws' recipe for Kolacki...a Polish pastry made with cream cheese, butter, flower and I forget what else....but they melted in ones' mouth.

Time to go heat up my Col. Sanders Sunday dinner, then the body will call call for book and snooze.....more snooze that book, I'm sure. Have a happy day kids..I love you. June

I'm listening to Christmas music on the TV.  Why can't they sing the songs, hymns especially, like they're written instead of putting in all of those trills.  I guess I'm just the wrong generation.

It's been a rainy day today but at least no snow.  Present temperature is 41 degrees.  Heat wave!

Boy, I am with you on that music being butchered, Mary Ann!

Okay, Amy, I copied the German Sweet Chocolate recipe but don't know what to do with it. Hear tell those recipes got scrambled but since I don't know where they are, I'm going to post the recipe right here & if anyone wants to move it, "have at it".  I finished the spaghetti sauce & fixed some pasta, ate & "boxed up" the rest for freezer & frig. Must say, I think this is the best batch I ever made, but could be I was just hungry for it.
***********
German Sweet Chocolate Cake
1 package (4 oz) Baker's German Sweet Chocolate
1/2 cup water
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) margarine or butter-softened (I use half & half)
2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites
*******
Heat oven to 350° F. Line bottoms of 3- 9" round cake pans with wax or parchment paper
Microwave chocolate & water in large bowl on high 1 1/2-2 minutes or until chocolate is almost melted, stirring halfway through heating time. Stir until chocolate is completely melted.
Mix flour, baking soda and salt: set aside. Beat marg/butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in chocolate mixture and vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition until smooth.
Beat egg whites in another large bowl with electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. Gently stir/fold into batter. Pour into prepared pans. Bake 30 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched in center. Immediately run spatula or knife around edges of pans. Cool on cake racks for 15 minutes, remove from pan & remove paper before it cools.  Cool completely on wire racks.  Spread coconut-pecan frosting between layers & top (not sides)
*******
Coconut-Pecan filling/frosting
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk (I use Carnation)
1 & 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 (stick & 1/2) butter or Blue Bonnet Margarine (I use butter)
4 egg yolks slightly beaten
1& 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 package (7 oz) Baker's Angel Flake Coconut
1 & 1/2 cups broken pecans (or more)
Mix milk, sugar marg or butter, egg yolks & vanilla in large saucepan. Cook & stir over
medium heat about 12 minutes or until thickened & golden brown. Remove from heat.
Stir in coconut and pecans. Cool to room temperature and spreading consistency.
*******
Can't throw those egg whites away so I add 1/2 teaspoon salt, scant teaspoon cream of tartar, and cup of sugar...whip them to peaks & drop spoon full onto baking sheet with nice peaks. Bake at 250°  for half an hour, don't open oven for hours as the crisp.  Or you can squash them in the middle to hold fruit. Good stuff!

I agree with you and Mary Ann on the music and another bug a boo I have is when they say Happy Holidays to me. I reply rather loudly so all can hear MERRY CHRISTMAS! It always has been Merry Christmas to me and always will be!!!

The Christmas service at the Bucknell University chapel was so inspiring!  They had a beautiful choir, bell ringers, a brass ensemble and they told the story of Christmas biblically.  It was so beautiful!

And I agree about the Christmas Carols.  I still have my Andy Williams, Mitch Miller, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis and Tennessee Ernie Ford Albums and I play them all the time.  For just plain good music, I still like Montevani,  And the 3 tenors are great!  I have a couple more good ones but my mind is blank.

I finished the Cranberry and the lime gumdrops today and I packed up all the roasted peanuts.  Tomorrow I don't have to go to work until 10 so I'm going to mix the red gumdrops and they should be ready to cut by suppertime tomorrow.  And then all I have to do is Cathy's noodles and I can take the plastic off the dining room table an decorate it for Christmas.  I figure I might make that by Thursday night and then I can move my operations to the spare bedroom and do so wrapping!

Shirley, I'm going to copy that cake recipe but I don't know when I might try it.  It sounds so good!  I'd have to have a few extra people to help me eat it and I can't share it with Cathy.  She doesn't like coconut.

JUNE, I looked up Kolacki on the internet and there are as many ways to spell it as there are cooks who make them but the recipe is basically the same no matter how you spell it.  They do sound yummy!  And they don't look like they would be too hard to make!

The dogs have both gone to bed and I think they might be trying to tell me something.  I'm going to wrap this up, put away a few things and join them.  It's been  busy day!

Good night Everyfriend!  And may God bless us, every one!

GOOD EVENING , EVERYFRIEND.....

Another day of 🏈🏈.  I will  be glad when it is all over!  My Broncos did win today....happy, happy.

All is silent from California.....Mama goes to the doctor tomorrow, maybe there will be news after she sees him.  He eluded that he may induce her if his schedule would allow....so we shall see.  I truly hoped the little guy would just come on his own...but what ever will be will be❣️

We are watching the Garth Brooks concert from Notre Dame.  It is OK, but not as good as the live concert I saw him in a good 25 years ago!  He is 25 years older, so guess I can not expect him to run all over the stage like he used to! 🤣🤣

JANE, happy you got to get out to see the Christmas Story at Bucknell tonight with your family.  Glad you enjoyed it.

MARYANN, have you heard that a radio station has chosen to not play, BABY ITS COLD OUTSIDE, because it fits into the ME TOO movement?  These days one can barely breath without offending someone!  I find it extremely concerning the way things have become.

SHIRLEY, your spaghetti sauce sure does sound good to me.  Bet the German Chocolate Cake will be yummy too. I would love to have some of your holly...sure do not like the thought of you getting on a ladder to cut it down though.

GLORIA de, I hope the doctor will have good news for you when you see him again about your foot.  Circulation issues are a big problem for healing.

LARRY, I will have to do some research about the ECG ability currently on the I watch.

JUNE, AKA "The Old Gray Mare", of course you went down to the program last night......you just can not miss out on the fun!  Dancing to SILENT NIGHT.....how sweet❣️ Glad you continue to enjoy your KFC....chocolates and the flowers.

My iPad is about to die....so Imwill say good night to all!  Pleasant dreams.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I had a scare last night.  I was sitting in front of my computer and it just died!  Everything went off and nothing would come back on.  Since it was already time to go to bed, I just did a quick search and I decided that it was the surge suppressor that had died.  That's bad but not as bad as if it had been the computer itself.  I have everything Jerry-rigged this morning and I'm going to have to buy a new surge suppressor, I suppose.  If it's not one thing, it's 3 others.  I wonder what will be next?

I'll be off to Wally World today.  Wish me short lines and lots of smiles.  Well, I suppose short lines would be wasting a wish at this time of year but lots of smiles would be nice.

On the way home, I'm going to stop by the computer department at WM and see if they have surge suppressors and if they don't have what I need, I'm going to make a quick trip to the computer store.

I also threw in a load of laundry this morning and another one is waiting when it gets done.  So far, that's my day!  Not much fun!

In case you don't see me, at least you know why I'm not hanging around boring everyone!  Enjoy your day, whatever it brings.

Good morning everyone..

Went to bed with light rain and thunder and woke up to a winter wonderland!! Not a lot of snow, maybe 2 inches? Will deal with it later, after my tea. Happy to see all that ice covered or it would be a skating rink out there.

Jenny,I think a big sigh will come from everyone once this bundle of joy makes an entrance!

Jane, that would give one a fright, glad it was an easy fix.

Making this short ,tea is done and snow is still there..

Enjoy your day everyone.

It is a beautiful sunny morning and unseasonably warm.  Already "they" are talking about a wintry mix for this coming weekend.  ???

It was so nice to have my younger son here for the weekend.  It was wonderful to have both of my sons with me.  It doesn't happen often.  We talked and talked. :chatter:

Jane or Amy, what kind of crackers do you use for your PB Chocolate Cookies?  It sounds easy enough for even me to do these days.

Have a great day, All

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful morning here and we are to have mild temperature today.  I met with my friend at 8 am this morning and I think that will be it for today as am not feeling well.  I did write to my cardiologist last evening and he almost immediately replied and told me to contact his office and make an appointment for this week, which I will do in a few minutes.

Maybe I will feel more like posting tomorrow but just not up to making many individual comments so am taking a bye for today.

Good morning everyone, WOW it  is 51° and will get warmer but tomorrow it will be cold again. Hope I get outside today. Yesterday it rained all day so stayed in. Clouds have not all cleared yet here.

LARRY  unusual for you to miss church, you must have felt worn out. Hope you feel better today.

GLORIA de  never hurt to read to children. I know when I was very young I loved books, still do.

JANE  how can you cut gumdrops without ea ting them? I used to love them. Now I take better care of my teeth. The Christmas program you saw sounds wonderful.

SHIRLEY  glad you left the ladder where it is, no more dragging it around and climbing it.

JUNE  your chocolate covered cherries sound yummy. Are they the cream ones or the liquid one? I always prefer milk chocolate.

JENNY I hope you hear today about your DIL and the baby. At times my daughter has to cut our Skype chat short because her iPad needed charging.

LLOYD  glad your cattle are back and you find the missing one today.

JANE  you do NOT bore us with your posts. You amaze me with your working at WM and every thing you do at home. Wish I could do a fraction of what I used to do.

AMY  no winter wonderland here, feels like a spring day and I will be headed outside when I finish here.

PHYLLIS  Saturday morning both my sons were here and that felt good. Does not happen often so I know how you enjoyed having your younger son there for the week end.

Have a good day.

Jenny, I think they're going too far if a station won't play BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE because it is cold!  This PC thing is for the birds.  I'm for mankind, womankind, childhood, old age and what have you.  And I hope the baby makes an appearance soon.  Thursday would be a nice day - Dec 6 was Norm's birthday.

JaneS what a scare.  I'm glad it was a surge protector and nothing more serious.

Phyllis, I hope you don't get the wintry mix.  Snow isn't too bad, but a mix is very bad.  How nice you had your two sons with you - at the same time!  And you too, Gloria.

I used to read to my nephews when they were young.  They always wanted me to read the same stories, no matter how often they had heard them.  I read to the next generation a bit, but they did not live close so it wasn't possible.

Mary Ann

Phyliss, Jane uses soda crackers. I ran out one time and used some graham wafer crackers.......both tasted good dipped in chocolate..I have my neighbour hooked on them now :)

Phyllis, I also do some Ritz crackers with PB and Chocolate.  I got started on them because I have a grand niece with a dietary problem and the saltines have something in them that she can't have.  So she gets her own special kind with all natural PB.  I've never done any graham crackers but I don't really like graham crackers so never thought of it.  They are pretty easy to do and you can spread them one day and dip them the next day.  When I do a lot of them I set up and old electric fry pan with paper towels in the bottom and glass measuring cups for melting the chocolate with water almost to the top of the frying pan.  I have it set on the lowest setting and the two things you must NEVER do, is get even a drop of water in the melting chocolate and you mustn't try to hurry the melting process.  I think AMY melts her chocolate in the microwave...AMY?

Gloria, I never said I didn't eat any gumdrops while I was cutting them.  Theres all that excess around the edges and a good and careful cook must taste everything to make sure it's suitable for giving to her friends.  They aretasty and I think maybe my favorite of all the candy I make.  They are not hard to do but they are time consuming.

And now that I've rested from my labors, I think I better get back to my labors if I ever want to be finishes with my labors.

MARY ANN and everyone else...reading to my children and having them read to me was one of the joys of my life.  And they have all become avid readers.  I hope I contributed to that!  I could always get lost in a book no matter where I was and I wanted that for them, too.  I think they have it!

I can't remember if I gave you the rhubarb muffin recipe or not if so .swap out the rhubarb for two cups of chopped apple. I even left the skin on but chopped it in 1/4 inch chunks......yummy!!

Larry, prayers for you that you will feel much better tomorrow. Rest at this time can be your best friend..

I sure don't remember a rhubarb muffin recipe but swapping out the rhubarb for apple sounds good.

I'm finished with two kinds of gumdrops including cutting the remelted cuttings in squares for ME!  I still have to do the red stars.  I didn't get them mixed this morning because some other stuff came up that was yelling for attention.  Seems there's always something yelling for attention!  And it's always stuff you can't ignore.  I even ran out of time to make my sandwich to take along for lunch.  And I forgot my water bottle.

I did get the Elf on the Shelf mailed to Emma so they can get that traditon started.  And I did 2 loads of laundry and I answered the zzzzs on the sofa after I had my supper.

If I can manage to get some sleep tonight, I should feel better tomorrow than I did this morning.  My friend and I are going to the movies tomorrow on Senior Day to see the grinch movie.  Should be fun and maybe we'll stop a McDonalds or Arby's for lunch on the way home.

Now I'm off to Dreamland so I bid you all a Good Night and may God bless us, every one!

I've been without internet all day (or most of it) but discovered this one is connected so will explain that "until the Cox man comes on Wed, I may not get another chance to tell you about my problem".  I've called them 6 or 7 times tonight & keep getting disconnected, when I call back it's never the same person & we get disconnected again before the problem is solved.  Seems the modem is "dead", they furnish & are responsible for that.  Hopefully that will fix the phones dropping & internet off & on. I use up a lot of my Tracfone minutes talking to Cox people.  :tickedoff:

It is bitter cold but no snow & wind not too bad, so as long as we don't lose power, it's winter & we will manage. I wish you could see these 3 cats, one lays in front of the toe-warmer below the kitchen sink, the other sleeps on top of a furnace register in the same room and Tom started sleeping in what used to be LaurenKat's bed that is in front of a floor register with a "cover" that aims the heat right on him. Thanks goodness there's still a couple more vents in that combo room for the heat to reach the rest of the space!  Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

Good morning..

Well I can certainly say "Baby its cold outside" clear sky dotted with stars and a slice of moon and  +5°F. Much healthier weather than what we have had.

We are off to the chocolate factory today and a stop at the quilt store. Clean roads so no worry travelling.

Shirley ,that must be frustrating for you. Hope they fix it soon for you.

Gloria it is as Joan would say a geemagotchee day here..I know I will be bundling up as I am the one that takes Babe out if she needs to go while we are on the road. We have our places all picked out to stop for her.

Larry, hope you feel better this morning, try not to over do it today.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Thanks for answering my question about kind of crackers, Amy and Jane.  I think I'll try both so I can decide which we like better. And, of course, that means MORE cookies to eat!  ::)

Sun is shining right now but it is to be colder and not so nice later.  It is, after all, winter.  And I got some errands done yesterday so today I can just stay home and get caught up with the laundry.  Yesterday I tried out Best Buy's "Order online, Pickup at store".  It went so easy that I will do that again. Other than writing some checks, that takes care of my Christmas gift giving. I'm feeling so smug!  :sidedance:

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up a long time but busy.  I won't bore you with the details but the doggies are fed and some chores have been attended.

I'll have to make this short because I have to go take a shower and get dressed.  My friend is picking me up at 10;30 and when we get back, I have a couple of errands to run too.

And I'll need to get the red gumdrops mixed and in the fridge to set.  I keep saying that and it always seems to get shifted to another time but today I'm determined.  I really wanted to have them in the fridge before the movie but that didn't happen.

I had a strange night and I want to run it past you all to see if you have any insight.  I was in bed about a half hour and my hands started to itch, not just little itch.  It was one of those "can't reach the itch and it's driving me crazy" itches.  While I was attending to my hands, I realized that my feet were also beginning to itch.  This got me out of bed and I remembered Sandy and June's talk about cold showers for the itching.  I tried soaking my hands and feet in cold water and as long as they were immersed, the didn't itch.  As soon as I took them out of the water and dried them,  THEY ITCHED.  I hit the computer and googled it and found an article that suggested everything from seeing a theripist to taking melatonin.

Since the only thing on the list that I had was melatonia (which I had ordered and had not decided if I wanted to use) I decided to try that.  I played a couple of card games and gave it time to take effect and I slept the rest of the night.

Has anyone had this happen and what did you do for it?  I sure don't want it every night.  The article said that it intensifies at night and can keep you awake.

Now I'm off to get dressed!  Is there a doctor in the house?

Hi Everyone.  It is a bright and sunny morning and we are to get into the mid-50's today.  I was able to get an appointment with my cardiologist for tomorrow morning at 10 am for which I am thankful.  I am hoping he will have something that can begin to give me a little more energy and stop the occasional gurgling and coughing. I spent a good part of the day yesterday laying down and  today will probably be about the same as I am very weary this morning.  I plan on staying home all day. Pat just reminded me she has a doctor's appointment downtown this morning but she will going to drive herself there.  It has been quite awhile since she has driven the car.

I have found all of the posting interesting but just don't have the energy to make any individual comments today.  Hopefully soon I will be back to my normal long postings.

Good morning everyone, enjoyed the sunny and warm day yesterday but it is freezing and windy again today. Makes me glad I spent a lot of time outside yesterday.

LARRY  seems like you have been doing a lot lately so time to take it easier? Hope you are feeling better today.

MARY ANN  I see both sons often but not together. That was great.

JANE  of course the cooks and chefs just have to taste everything they are making. How else to know the food/treats are OK. Things worth doing are the things that take the most time, right? Jenny's DIL is one now who knows how long it takes a baby to come into the world. Like you I get lost in a book and can see in my mind the authors descriptions of people and places. Used to picture things back in the days of the old radio programs. Remember those times sitting near the radio and listening to The Shadow and the Lone Ranger and all those programs. Kids today do not seem to have much imagination. My daughter read to her sons when they were young, my oldest son now reads to his grandson.

SHIRLEY  when you call Cox get the name of the person you talk to and if you have to call back ask for that person, better than getting someone else all the time. Wish I could get rid of Cox but seems like the company that owns this building will not let any other company in here.

AMY  I have mentioned JOAN's "geemagotchees" already with the cold we have had already. Going out here when it is cold and windy I sure need them.

PHYLLIS  you are rushing winter even though it feel like it. it is still autumn according to the calendar. Mother Nature says it is winter though though

JANE  never heard of of the itch  like you had. I have had nights I could no t sleep but not  because of itchy hands or feet. Hope you find out why, maybe because you have been  too busy?

LARRY  take care of yourself till you see the doctor. Just rest.

Have a good day and keep warm.

Larry, I sure hope you figure what's wrong.... possibly low on iron?  I was always afraid to give Cas iron tablets but I would pump him full of raisins, prunes & other high iron foods & he would feel better.  Even eggs with the yolks helped. Even when my blood tests show only on the low end of acceptable, my body knew it needed iron rich foods & the Fergon iron, not only helped with the energy but breathing (since iron carries the oxygen in the blood).  Andy is having to take iron now & has never been low before, gives blood as often as he can & they check first. Anyway, "Dr.Shirley" will wish you a quick pep up for today.

I don't know why this computer is connected to the internet except it is right over the modem that is in the basement.  The new computer is at the other end of the house, but still no connection this morning.  I need to be cleaning around in the basement, have hauled down a lot of clothes to be ironed or put away until next spring. Also I need to vac around the litter box at the bottom of the steps, I clean it every time they use but they drag litter all around & just won't shake their feet before getting out.  >:(  Cox man will be here between 8:00 & 10:00 am tomorrow so the cats & I will have an early breakfast. They will be upset at not being able to hide out downstairs because someone strange is invading their territory.  Mama Callie can go outside, which she does several times a day but Tom & Tiger usually like to go back to sleep until noon. Do they have me trained???

Jane & Amy, your foods all sound so good... but I can't fix anything else. Will have to clean a spot in the freezer for this latest batch of spaghetti sauce & really do need to defrost soon. I have enough coolers & am thinking of plugging the RV in so I can store some stuff in that freezer & frig while defrosting.

Jane, some years ago I had a problem with hands itching almost beyond control... but was when they got cold. I had trouble cutting up a chicken, holding a glass of ice.... hands would turn red/purple & drive me crazy. Was at my daughter's holding a glass of ice Coke when at it's worse. All of a sudden it quit. Have no idea why. Dr couldn't explain when I talked to him about it next time I was in. Hope yours goes away like mine did, really un-nerved me at the time it was so severe.

Jenny, sure hope that baby appears soon.  My sister-in-law always ran late, and each baby got bigger & bigger.  After being in the hospital a few days before delivery my mother was scheduled to pick up the 2 older kids at their school & explained about the baby arriving. The oldest boy looked at her & said, "I know why she stayed so long.... she was waiting for the biggest baby".  Has been a family joke ever since. This was the same kid that when his mother was picking him up to explain about them having a new baby, she said he grinned & kind of hid his face and said, "You know about it too?"  The grapevine reaches the kids long before we realize.

Better get busy, got lots to do that can't wait!  Hugs to all.  Shirley  (Thanks, Patricia, for that link to where the recipe belongs.)

Oops, you snuck in, Gloria... I asked one of the people how many working where I call & he said "maybe 30", & none mentioned asking for them when I had to call back. Say, I am not using Bold, but trying Arial Black, is that any better?

Mary Ann,could you hang your heavy coat on a hanger with the inside facing out, so you could back up and insert your arms, as if someone were holding the coat for you??? Does this make sense ?

Larry, I am happy to read that Pat is going to drive herself today. With your heart condition it is essential for her to keep driving. I started when Ed felt he was a danger behind the wheel, and never stopped. I quit and had Gary sell my Oldsmobile 88 when I had a mini-stroke. Gary said, "Mom, what if that happened when you were driving ?' That made my decision..the thought that i could harm another driver, would be hard to live with.

I went to Church on Sunday, but home the rest of the day. Woke up Monday wiped out...so I spent the whole day in bed. Did manage to feed myself and that was it. Had to call the Clinic downstairs abbot 4 a.m., shortness of breath, plus. Two Nurses were there immediately. Took all the vitals..B.P. was 180 and pulse racing. So they gave me pills and another dose of albuteral on my breathing machine, with the info, I am listed for albuteral at my request just with a phone call.I asked the nurse if I should spend another day in bed, and she said "Yes, it is better than pushing the body beyond it's limits. Well, I decided to have some breakfast, starting with a can of Gatorade, then made my bed, just to prove I could, I guess. Now I am here gabbing at all of you, and I am tired. So will go lay down and read. Hugs and Lovd to all. June

June, what you wrote does make sense, but I can get into my coat by myself, but I must start with my right arm.  Both Tom and Dot know that and they are the ones who help me the most.  Thank you for the suggestion; I may have to use it some day.

With your high BP and racing pulse, June, I wonder if you have A-Fib.  A racing pulse is what made my doctor send me to a cardiologist who took me off aspirin and put me on a blood thinner.  So I only exchanged pills.

June, I am happy I am no longer driving and it didn't take an illness to quit; Tom needed the car because Annie had wrecked his.  When time for my insurance to be renewed, I sold the car to Terry's daughter and Tom now takes me for appointments.  My walking isn't good enough for me to want to go to a store and shop.  Amazon does just fine.

Roads were dry and weather lovely for traveling. We did stop at the choco factory and it seems a lot of people had the same idea. They had a BOGO and that too was nice! Stopped and played with Bailey, the new pup at the quilt shop, for such a young pup he is so well behaved.  Took him a rawhide chew stick that was almost as long as he is. Had a lovely lunch out and came on home.

Larry, hope you see your Dr soon...

June what a great idea on how to put a coat on. Hubby has a problem with coats, shirts and sweaters. Darned RA doesn't make things easy  on a person.

I finished the red gumdrops!  All that's left to do with them is pack them up when they're dry.  And that's on the agenda for tomorrow.  I'm going to pack the boxes for everyone that gets them for Christmas and that's the end of the candy making.

I'm off to bed now so I'll say good night to everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

P.S.  No baby yet?

Good evening.....

I am feeling a bit shy about coming in and telling once agin.....no baby today❣️

The doctor told Megan that she is ready to have this baby now....but if little Jonah has not presented before, he will be evicted, (😂🤣) Thursday Morning the 6th.

I am sorry to read that you are not doing well, LARRY. I hope you were able to get in to see your cardiologist.

Sorry you are having issues also, JUNE.  I do hope you will be feeling better tomorrow.

JANE.....NOT JUNE, (sorry about that) your family sure is blessed to have you make all of these yummy goodies for them.  Mailing is expensive and I know you are having a lot of package going out with your special gifts of love.

SHIRLEY, the cold temps is still here, so unfortunately you will be having more of it to deal with in the coming days.

Because we were not able to make a commitment to dates to fly to California to meet Jonah, we have found the fare to be exorbitant now, so we have decided that we will drive.  This time of the year that does not make me too happy, but it will be fine.  We can now take all the baby clothes that we have been gifted to us for the baby.  We will then drive on to Phoenix and spend Christmas with my Dad and Diane.  Oldest son and his family from Boston will be spending Christmas in Phoenix also, with Heidi's Dad and Mom, so we can all get together. It will be nice and I always jump at the chance to go see my Dad.

It is late and I need to hit the hay.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was up at 5:30 with a restless doggie this morning.  She had to go out and no doubt about it.  So the other one went with her and then they got their pills and we all crashed on the sofa and waited for the alarm at 7.  For a change, it was a good sleeping night and even the short time on the sofa I slept soundly.  I guess I needed it.

JENNY, we're all on pins and needles waiting for Jonah's eviction papers to be served ;D   You must be, too!  What a nice opportunity for a visit with your father, though.  Some good has come from his inaction!

Also, JUNE and I both know that she's not the one making candy.  You seem to have put a U where the A should have gone in that name.  But, if my father holds that "you should take a man as he means, not as he says", I would think that goes for taking a woman as she means, also.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning at 10 and I'll be there until 2 after which I have one errand to do on the way home and then I'll be here to decide what needs to be attacked next.

I'm going to go get another cup of coffee and then do my crossword puzzle and my jigsaw puzzle and see if anything important came in on the email.  Enjoy your day everyfriend!  Grab it and make it yours in every way!

Hi Everyone. It is a clear and chilly morning here in South Carolina and when I got up a little while ago it was 31 degrees and may stay in the higher 40's this afternoon.  I am feeling a lot better this morning and started feeling better yesterday afternoon after spending some of the morning and early afternoon laying down with my eyes closed.  I will be seeing my cardiologist this morning and it is quite a walk from the parking garage to his office.  I have one errand to make a return for Pat and that will be my day until this evening when we plan to go out to eat and are hoping are son will join us and then spend some time with us this evening.  Yesterday Pat did drive herself to her doctor's appointment as I wasn't really feeling like driving when it was time for her to go.  She got along OK but came home pretty tired.  Fortunately we had left overs in the refrigerator for our evening meal.

Gloria, so far this week I have done only what I absolutely had to do.  However, today I feel much more energetic and doing things isn't a burden or so tiring.  I appreciate the cooks trying things before serving especially if it is a new recipe.  I think getting lost in a book is one of the real joys of reading or listening to audio books. I am sad that generations after us last the joy of listening to the old radio shows and seeing themselves opening Fibber McGee's closet or riding in Jack Benny's old Maxwell.  I also remember the Shadow, the Green Hornet, the Lone Ranger and the many other radio shows.  I heard on the news last night that all 50 States were to have some places where it would be below freezing.  It got below freezing here.

Shirley, I pretty well know what is wrong and it relates to my heart.  I do eat three prunes each morning as well as getting iron in the supplements I take each day.  I wonder if Andy will ever be able to donate blood again due to his heart surgery?  I was told years ago that I couldn't donate anymore blood due to having had Hep C as well as all of the heart medications I take.  I appreciate your comments as know you have a lot of good health related ideas.  I hope you get your internet fixed today and I just bet the cats will find a place to be while the repairman is there.  I do think your cats have you very well trained.

June, that was a great idea about hanging your coat inside facing out if one has a problem of putting arms in the coat.  I was glad that Pat got along OK driving.  The older I get the more cautious I become in my driving and the last few days knew I shouldn't drive.  Fortunately, I feel up to driving today.  I have already told my son that if he feels I have become unsafe in driving to be sure and tell me.  I hope that, like you and others, I will know when that time comes.  I sure understand your needing to feel you should stay in bed when your are wiped out.  I hope you are feeling better today. I find making my bed is one of the hardest things I have to do and it often leaves me breathless.

Mary Ann, our shopping in stores is very limited now.  Some days I can't even think of having to deal with walking in a store.  Aren't we thankful for Internet shopping.

Amy, what luck to find a BOGO day at the chocolate factory.  I have heard of a lot of reasons to stop at the quilt shop but petting a dog is a new one.  :)  I don't suppose you looked at any fabric while you were there did you?  It sounds like you had a most enjoyable day.

Jane, all of your making of gum drops makes me want to go out and get some as it has been a long time since I ate any.  I know you are glad to get your candy making finished.

Jenny, at least you now have a  date that your new grandson will be born if not before.  I bet this will be a long day for Megan and for you as well.  I guess we can expect to have more days of bad weather as we are almost officially in our winter season and weather doesn't pay any attention to the calendar in terms of whether it is fall or winter.  It sounds like you have great plans for Christmas and I know you have a very comfortable car in which to make the long trip.

Lloyd, glad you finally got all of your cattle back home.

Jane, glad you got a good nights sleep as that can make such a difference.  I think all of us probably say the wrong words that are not what we are thinking.  I know I sure do and Pat will sometimes call me on it.  Are you still adding to your "to-do" list or just marking things off?

Good morning everyone..

Like Jane I was up at 4:30 with a doggie that wanted out and we both went back to bed. I slept in and hit the floor a running. Had to make a trip into town to get a bill straightened out...one that I had paid and then got another one. Nothing make me more annoyed than to be billed a second time!

We shovelled  the driveway off and now to do the inside work. Later I will wash the van to see what colour it is under all that road slush!

Larry,I did come away with 2 pieces of fabric....and puppy kisses!! Happy to read you are feeling better, please take it easy for a while though.

Jenny, you will hear a collective hooray all over the world when Jonah is born. And they say females are late.....hmmm...

Lloyd  tis a worry when the head count is off ,great that they are all home now.

Time to get busy.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Cox man has come, put in lines to the house & inside, new modem & we are good to go!  I will one-up y'all on rise & shine morning.... how about 3:20 am. Not sure what woke me up but since the cable guy was to come at "8:00-10:00" I wanted to feed cats & me & clean the kitchen, etc. So try to organize 3 cats.... Callie had opted to go outside last night but was at the door when I walked through this morning at that early hour. She was glad to come inside & be offered breakfast. Settled down in front of that furnace vent & when the Cox man called about 15 min before 8:00 to ask if he could come... I booted cats out. Tom & Tiger are hiding out in the bedrooms but Callie went to the garage with one of the doors open so she could go out. Anyway, they will show up soon for a mid-morning snack. He says there is still a problem on the "server line" that must be taken care of by someone else.  My Fitbit & phone both wanted to update but both are set to only update when on my wi-fi.... I hope I didn't mess one or the other up during the process so far.  I think the next phone or whatever I get, I will do the set up myself so I know where & what the settings are.

Jenny, sometimes the unplanned trips end up being the best (at least Pollyanna thinks so). Hi to your father, always happy to hear "us older folks" are doing okay. I love to drive & hate to think about all the gorgeous scenery missed by flying. Enjoy! Wish you had a little Rialta... but I heard it was sent to CA days after I traded. I still have evil thoughts about that deal.

Better think about a nap, I'm sure I didn't get at most 3 hours sleep last night or night before & so many kinds of flu, etc. going around can't let ourselves get run down & catch those germs.  We are supposed to have a couple warm days before another cold shot, so better go rake the leaves in the pool area. These are NOT from my trees but carried in on that wind last week. So far I have not seen any bags of leaves sitting in front of a single house in this area, except mine. I know the guy next door cleaned his yard a couple weeks ago but think he might have dumped the leaves down by the river behind his house.  Lots of the people dump grass clippings down there, but it makes a messy place for various critters to hang out. My son did it once with the clippings from the hill going down to the river.... he just emptied the catcher on John Deere in the gully quite a way from the water.  Don't see it from the house or even across the river... but I asked him not to do it again, I'd rather dump into the plastic bags... John Deere rider/catcher doesn't allow for plastic bags inserted into the catcher like the old Allis does.

My son guessed the reason I got on the computer/wi-fi that is directly over the modem was because that computer had not had an update to restart it & enough signal to "bleed through". I restarted this one several times thinking it was the computer's problem since the phones were working. Who knows???

A good morning to EVERYFRIEND.

I am feeling so blessed to have you special friends.....reading your wonderfully supportive comments make my heart feel so full of love.  IF only little Jonah could know how many are awaiting his arrival....

JANE, I am so sorry I tried to give credit to Our June for your candy making.....we ALL know it is YOU that I meant this comment for❣️. I love your fathers words.....thank you for sharing them.

SHIRLEY, I, too, wish we had a little Rialto  to travel in.....and it still saddens me to think about yours😢 Happy to read that the Cox man arrived early and got the job done!

LARRY, so happy to read that you are feeling much better today.  We went to a class at the Apple store yesterday to learn about the iWatch. It does SO MUCH, and there is no way I feel I will be able to do much on it at all.  The EKG app is not available yet....it was expected to be released in October and they do not know what the delay is.  Just the heart health part of the watch minus the EKG part is amazing.....you can share it with your doctor very easily.....I was very impressed with what all this watch can do.

AMY, I can not wait to hear the collective HURRAh!

Have a great day......we are off to get the oil changed in our car and ten more things as well.

So many long messages this morning.  I have been to the Bush funeral and I stayed until the end when they put the casket on the plane.  During one song by the choir I got dressed and during another I made myself a lunch meat sandwich for brunch.  I thought it was a nice service and there were lots of laughs.

Jenny, I'm with everyone else wishing Jonah would make an appearance.  I think I told you that Thursday is Norm's birthday; he was born 89 years ago.  It does not seem he's been gone three years already.  Maybe if you take a more southern route to California, the trip won't be so bad, you might hit snow in the middle route.

Shirley, your cats sure know when they have it good.  I have not noticed Kendrick sleeping in front of any register but he does like a secluded spot, preferably with a cover, such as a small table.

Jane, are your gumdrops similar in texture to what Amy buys as cooking gumdrops?  I think she said they were different than gumdrops for eating - and maybe yours are for eating only.

Larry it was good to see your post this morning and I have not been to Norm's B&T het.  Just because you feel better, still take it easy.  It will be nice if Scott can join you tonight.

I look back to see what someone has written and by the time I get back to "Reply" I've forgotten what I read, so I'll keep this short (sure, I did!) as I have other folders to read.

I'm home from work and the doggies have been loved up, fed and outed. I joined them outside to do a little "yard cleanup".  Then I checked my email, answered some text messages and read everything in here.  Now I'm ready to "saw a few logs".

MARY ANN, my gumdrops are strictly for eating, not the cooking variety.  And I've been eating lots of the misshaped edges.  I think gumdrops might be my favorites but I think I said that before.

Still waiting for the insulation guy to call and say when he's coming.  I almost wish he'd wait until after Christmas now.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Mary Ann, I watched the funeral from beginning to end also. Very impressive, with loving spots of humor....I felt they were like family. George H.W. Bush died on my 94th. birthday, and he was 94 years old. Born in  the summer 1924, I was in Nov.

I got dressed today and took a stroll downstairs. Picked up a banana and small boxes of cereal. Had a big breakfast delivered to my room so skipped lunch. I'll have a mini can of spaghetti and a helping of canned spinach for supper. I read spinach contains a lot of electrolytes and my body needs those.

We are having some more real light sprinkles, and more expected tomorrow, settles any dust but does nothing for what we need out here.. I had a very short nap today, so my eyes are getting heavy already and it's only 4:30 our here..getting dark though and drippy.....sleep enhancing.

MARYANN, I forgot to mention to you this morning that Jonah just might make it to Norm's Birthday.  I have to tell you, I will be proud to know that my sweet little grandson will be born on Norm's Birthday❣️ Your suggestion for taking a lower route on our way to Cali is a good one, but it would add on quite a bit more miles.  Once we get over the passes here in Colorado, Loveland and Vail, it is pretty much the only areas that would cause us problems.  We head south then and the roads should be fine. Than you for the thought tho!

We spoke to Mark and Megan just a bit ago and they are very excited that they will meet their son tomorrow, God willing.

We went to the dealership to get our oil changed. Son Brian picked us up from there and we went to lunch.  We did not rush, so when we returned to pick up the car, it should have been done".....we were surprised they had not already called.  When Bob went it, they said the oil was changed but that our battery was dead and we would have to replace it.  Long story short....then there was confusion IF it was our car that had the problem......I feel in my heart they were trying to pull something and thought Bob would just tell them to go ahead and change it out....to the tune of $189.00. Brian and I were in the car waiting and he told Bob, no way, we will just go to Costco and buy one and Brian would change it out.... that is when Bob went in and they started saying maybe it was not our car, etc. that was having the problem.  Our car will be 5 years old on the 31 of this month, so it definitely is time to replace it.  Maybe it was God telling us that we needed to do it now rather than have a problem when we are out on the road.  Needless to say we did not get a lot more done today.

OK, I am going to sign off for tonight....I hope the next time I come in here it is with the blessed news that Jonah is here and doing great.....oh and his mama too.

Love and hugs to all.......Jenn

Jenn, Andy just said a couple days ago that Pam's car & their son's car, both 5 years old, had to have new batteries put in.... mine turned 5 this year & was totally dead in the garage one day so called auto club to jump start & make sure I could get it to the Walmart that for sure had what I needed in stock (I called & couldn't get "auto" at the one I usually use). When these puppies die they are done for good, so glad you are replacing before you head out. Mine sounded sort of funny the last time I started it (day before) but it ran okay & got home okay.  I was surprised it was so dead that next day, didn't even groan trying to start. Hope you have a wonderful time.

I'm seriously thinking about turning in to get whatever sleep I can, when ever I can. Tiger has not come for her chicken at supper time, she is in the house but "had a hard day" being disturbed with a stranger this morning.  ::) After the internet & Wi-fi turned on I checked & actually got 4 hours & 6 minutes sleep last night... & just over 3 hours the night before. I am not sure what wakes me up, I don't get out of bed unless it is to take a cat to the other end of the house), maybe just habit.

About 40 years ago I complained to the doctor about getting up to go to the bathroom at night. His advice was to see if it was about the same time since our bodies have "memory". I checked & it was the same time every night, so I didn't get up... re-trained the body & from then on I could go to bed about 8:00 pm when out camping & not get up until about 8:00 am, no dancing with the bears in the middle of the night for me!

Larry, I know that YOU know your problems, but all my life I've tried to find a fix for every problem. You've handled your heart issues with the greatest results, keeping busy and knowing when to rest. I think we have all known each other long enough we feel like family or best friends, at least. And yet we have our own "space" when we don't feel like talking. Works out nice, at least for my way of thinking. Tonight I have all of my "ducks in a row" as my friend here says.... feel like I'm in control... well, except for cats.  ;)

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Shirley

Jenny:  Why are you going through Vail?  Just go south to Albuquerque and turn west until you are north of Phoenix.  We are expecting some weather in a couple of days but if you stay away from Flagstaff, you should be OK.  What do I know?  I am not a weatherman.  Have a safe and happy trip - enjoy your visit with your dad.  We are coming home in about ten days - have the streets plowed, please.

History is always interesting to me and the latest presidential funeral was set up so nice.  I do wish the cameras would have shown more people in the middle and back of the cathedral. There were two from Canada at least.  The music was outstanding.  Did anyone recognize the Tenor from New York City?  He sang at the 911 memorial - an outstanding voice and what a setting for the choir too.

Amy:  I chopped two kinds of apples and stuffed all in a crock pot with a swish of water, some cinnamon and Agave syrup - (low or no carbs in agave).  Kitchen smells terrific.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I don't have much to add this morning except that I slept a bit better than usual but boy did I ever dream!  I must have had at least three different dreams because I remember some really disconnected ideas.

I'm set up to roll Cathy's noodles and then I'm finished "making" things. I'll go into wrapping and packing gear.  And I took some hamburger out of the freezer with the idea of making a casserole for supper.

I do have to make a quick trip to WM to get some containers for the gumdrops. I had two Christmas boxes and I used those lined with plastic bags to go to Oklahoma and Texas.  And while I'm there, if my fav hair cutter is working, I might take time to get my ears lowered.  I know they're in there somewhere but I can't seem to find them.

Quick report...no more itchy hands and feet but I've been taking a Melatonin before I go to bed at night.  It helps!

Jenny, have a safe and uneventful trip to California and give Johah a gentle hug from me.  Do the same for your father when you get to Arizona.  I miss my father every day of my life!  Cherish every minute o your time with him.  I know you do!

CAROL, you have a safe trip to Colorado and I sure hope SOMEONE plows the roads for you!

I'm off to get started on the day.  Enjoy yours Everyfriend!  Grab it and make it your own in every way!

Hi Everyone. It is another beautiful and chilly morning here in South Carolina.  I have a busy morning today as need to stop at Walmart to pick up prescriptions for Pat and for myself.  Then I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee, stopping at the Post Office to mail Jennifer's broken laptop back to the manufacturer for a replacement.  On the way back I to take my friend home I may stop by NTW to have the air checked in my tires again as the low level of air light is on again on the dash.  I have several small projects I want to complete before the day is over.  I had a good doctor's visit yesterday and he doubled my Entrestro again and added Digoxin, which I have never taken before but remember it was the heart medicine my grandmother took for many years.  He also told me to double the Lasix for 4 days and then double again if I have feel the need.  I did have a good day yesterday and we did meet Scott for dinner at a restaurant and then he came out to spend some time with us.  It seemed like we had him doing tasks for us all the time he was here.  He put up the curtain rods in our guest bedroom and did some other things we asked him to do.  I hope we are about to get things fixed up the way Pat wants them so that he can come out without needing to do chores for us and we can just visit.

Amy, I agree with you on how annoying it is to have a bill that I paid rebilled.  Fortunately I keep very good records so have good proof of payment.

Shirley, glad the Cox repairman got to your house early rather than making you wait all day and wonder whether he was going to get there or not.  To bad he couldn't fix all of the problems and someone else still have to come to attend to it.

Jenny, this is the day you all have been waiting for with that new grandson arriving.  We have an Apple store here so think I will buy the iWatch there rather than at Best Buy so I can also take the class to help me get started.  I hope they soon make the EKG feature available as they sure promoted it when they introduced the iWatch 4.  If your car battery was 5 years old it was a good idea to replace it.  I have had several batteries just die all of a sudden on me including the night that Stacey died and we needed to leave the Hospice place to go home.

I have run out of time this morning so will have to come back later this afternoon to complete going through the postings.  I hope all have a good day, I know I plan on doing so.

Good morning everyone, just realized I did not post yesterday. Slipping up in my old age? Another freezing start to today but the sun is shining. I ordered a heater for my bathroom from Home Depot and it was delivered yesterday. Will have my CNA help me move a couple o things in there and have a place for it. Finally I will be able to get out of the shower into a warm room. No heat in there now and I cannot take getting out of that warm water into a cold room anymore.

LARRY  glad  you are finally feeling better. I know I have days where all I want to do is lay down and I do not have the heart problems you do. Just feel worn out with no energy. Glad those days are few and far between. How about the old radio show I Love a Mystery that opened with the squeaking door?

JENNY  I hope today is the day when Jonah makes his arrival healthy and your DIL is finally relieved of the bump and finally get to hold him in her arms.

Have to get busy and dressed before my CNA is here.
Have a good day.

He won't be here to enjoy the day, but Norm was born 89 years ago today.  He's been gone three years.

Gloria, I am fortunate that I do have a register in my bathroom so when I get out of the shower, the room is warm.

I am about the watch the next service for George H W Bush.  I like to think that will be the end of funerals for a change.

Larry, I'm glad you're feeling better, but please don't overdo it just because you do feel better.  In the obits this morning was a man named Hanna.

Jane, I'm glad the itch is gone.  I wonder what caused it.  I've heard if your palms itched that you were going to get some money.  A lot, if your itch is any indication.

Jenny, we hope this is the day for Jonah to make his appearance and also you and Bob have a good, safe trip to California.

Hi Everyone.  Am just back home from coffee and now eating my lunch so thought this would be a good time to finish what I started this morning.  I did accomplish all I wanted to do except I did not stop at NTW and will do so on Saturday morning.

Jane, it seems that yard cleanup is like house clean up as it just never seems to stay done.  I hope you found some good ZZZ's yesterday. I'm afraid that if I make those gumdrops I would just accidentally have a lot of misshapen pieces that I would have to eat.

June, nice that you have the boxes of cereal and fruit available to you around the clock that you can bring home and enjoy at your leisure.  I can't think of too many other things I would hate to have more than canned spinach.

Jenny, I am sure you all take plenty of blankets and other emergency supplies with you when you go through the mountains in winter time and hope you never need to use them.  The miles will probably seem long in anticipation of seeing that new grandson.

Shirley, I think you exaggerate when you say that one of your cats had a hard day.   ;)   Glad you felt in control at the end of yesterday.

Carol, the Bush family are going to be really exhausted after today with all of the services and other things that have occurred around the family.  I feel for them.  I didn't here him sing but I heard that it was Ronan Tynon that sang and he does have a beautiful voice.

Lloyd, even though you didn't update the Skype software I don't understand why it stopped working.

Gloria, I am like you and used to use a little heater in our master bathroom during the winter as it seemed cold there in the morning.  In a small room it doesn't take long for it to warm things up.  I don't remember the name of that show with the squeaking door but seem to have a vague memory of that sound effect so probably listened to it.

Mary Ann, I will be laying down to rest as soon as I finish my lunch.  Even though I do feel good today I do wear down easily and it was a full morning.

Thanks you all for your expressions of concern for me as I appreciate them and I try to keep in mind that old saying that "this too shall pass".

Hallelujah!!!  The insulation guys have come and gone and I'm all insulated!

[/Mary Ann, I'd heard that about the itchy palm bringing money also.  However, my grandmother always added that, if it was your right palm you'd get to keep it.  If it was your left one, it would go out fast.  Since it was both my palms, about all I can hope for is having enough to be able to pay for the insulations and that's OK with me.

Also, I think the show with the squeaky door was called "Inner Sanctum".  It always started with the announcer saying in a very low, drawn out voice, "Wel-come to Inner Sanc-tum!"  Then the door would squeak and snap shut.  I remember asking my sister once if it was closing us in or out.  She said, "It's closing you in and me out."  Kinda mean, wasn't she?

Larry, there's more than enough left over cuttings to satisfy my appetite for gumdrops and I always make sure I don't give them all away.  If you were across the street, I'd bring some over.

WELCOME, JONAH...wherever you are!

Congratulations, Janie! You got here first, I also thought it was Inner Sanctum with the squeeky door (I even Googled to make sure).

Another congratulations for getting the insulation done, too. Mom also used to say the itchy palm meant you were going to get money, but not which palm. My right was itched so bad yesterday (or maybe day before?) I nearly wore it out scratching. No money came in but I managed to spend some this morning.  ::)  Glad your itch is gone.

I just had a different scam call.... "Don't hang up, your Social Security number has been suspended.... " and slammed the phone down so hard it should have shattered...but didn't. I was coming in with hands full of bags, sunglasses on & couldn't see the caller ID. Always afraid it might be one of my kids needing something I answered because it was already the 3rd ring. I'm checking on new phones, think Panasonic like what I have, but new technology that can auto detect robo calls & silence (or not). My daughter is trying them out... can block up to 250 callers but like I told her, I get the same scams from many different numbers & states. The one I let go to answering machine & each same recording had a different number. That was the one that was going to jail me if I didn't do what was required. My problem is every time I try to get a nap the #!** phone rings & it's a robo call. Answer or not, it wakes me up. :knuppel2:

Gloria, my winter buddy.... I will admit this is the first time (winter) that I've turned the thermostat up 2 degrees when I take a shower. Also the first time I've had cold feet when I go to bed. As soon as I get the bed warmed up with my body heat I have to take the bed sox off. I guess we really-really are growing old. Do we cry or be happy we're still around?  Guess I am going to learn how to be cold natured. No snow so far but do have the SnoNut ready to use!

Jane as I read the account of your friend who has gotten into the Santa mode I recalled my first involvment nearly 20 years ago.It came about because one of the malls put out a call to the acting community for a Santa and it appears I was the only one who responded. Fortunatly I had just finished a run of a Shakesperean play and had a full beard so I jumped in and the rest as they say is history. Ironically, the mall who hired me is the one that fired me after my heart attack 17 years later. There will be some Santa activity here in the home and I guess that will have to do.

Oh! Don, are you going to play Santa for your housemates?  They will love it!  Let us know how it goes.  I wish I could be there to see.

I just changed my surge suppressor for a new one.  I didn't know if I was going to take the chance but I couldn't plug my printer into the small one I had been using since mine died.  And, guess what?  I DID IT!  I'm here to prove it and something that was waiting in my printer came out.  I still don't have sound so maybe my speakers are dead.  They're all plugged in and turned on but nothing!  Oops, just noticed a little switch that was off.  Maybe I do have sound!

Gotta go feed the doggies and their human.  Enjoy your evening and is someone thinks of it, tell me again how to get what I'm typing bigger.  I forgot!

Hi Kids, I am trying to stay awake long enough to say Hi. Don't know why I am so sleepy, but that's the way it is. I got all ready to go down to Bible study this morning and before I could walk out the door, I checked my computer for dates, and found out it was Thursday.....Wed. is Bible study......DUH !!!!!!

And so the day has gone.....good to see you all up and alert with "plans". I watched the funeral trip to .......i've forgotten the state.......George H.W. was given the full treatment...he was well loved for sure.

Now I'm going to make a light supper and off to an early bed. Still have to take a breathing treatment at 7:30, and more meds at 9, but I can snooze in between if I so like. Life is good. Thanks be to God. Love, Hugs, Prayers, and God's Peace. June

Good evening.....no Jonah yet, but things are progressing nicely and we really should hear very soon that he has arrived....just praying for everything to continue to go as expected.  These first babies tend to take the longest, but as long as the nurse and doctor are happy with the progression we can live with that.  Megan checked in at 8AM as planned.....they started slow with the drug and worked it up slowly.

We kept busy all day.  I had a eye exam this morning with a new optimologist......I agreed to have the test done that costs extra where they look at the back side of the eye and the optic nerve, so there was no need to dilate my eyes.  The doctor was very pleased with the health of my eyes, being a diabetic, as there is no sign of any damage. I have a slight start of a cataract and there is a minimal sign of macular degeneration.

Bob had to get a blood test today to see if the meds he is taking for the gout is getting the uric acid levels down enough.  Sadly, yesterday he had a bit of the gout issue in his big toe, so he expects they will increase the amount of the drug....we shall see.

CAROL, we are going to Paso Robles, CA to see the baby before we drive to Phoenix, so going on 70 is the way to go.  Once we get over the two passes here all should be smooth sailing....the southern route across on 40 has much more potential for bad roads this time of the year. We will be gone before you come home so I will leave strict orders that they have the roads cleared for you and Don.

JANE, sooo happy the insulation project is done......hope your home feels nice and toasty tonight!

LARRY, we will make sure we have emergency gear in case it is needed, and I thank you for the caring thought.  Nice Scott could have dinner and a visit with you and Pat last night.  I think our kids are happy when they are able to help do things for us, just as we were happy to do things for them.  The support you get through the Apple Store is nice, and very well would make it worth buying through them.

SHIRLEY, these Robo calls come from all different numbers as you well know, so even 250 blocked calls may not even be enough!  It sure is annoying, and I am not sure what we can do about them!

MARYANN, we are still hopeful that Jonah can make his appearance on Norm's Birthday.  He still has 5 hours left in California!

GLORIA, happy to read you have a new heater to warm your bathroom up so you can be more comfortable after your shower.  I know Megan w8ll be so very happy to hold little Jonah in her arms......that sounds so sweet.

I wish EVERYFRIEND a good night and I hope to be able to post tonight that our baby boy is here SOON!

Welcome, Jonah! Congratulations to proud parents and thrilled grandparents! Goodness, this is so hard on us old folks.

Lloyd, I know you are champing at the bit (I still disagree that it is spelled that way, a horse chOmps at the bit, but Google disagrees.) to hit the road. Don't know how long it's been since you've been to FL, hope you have located campgrounds on the beach. We found it difficult to get to any water except for those campgrounds. We arrived one year shortly after a "blue moon" that mangled campsites nearest the water, after a high tide. Brought up a lot of shells but pushed over palm trees and pulled the huge cables out of the ground. Interesting but at least half the campground was closed, we were lucky to find an empty site.

Wishing all a Fantastic Friday! (Good morning, Callie   ;) )

Hi Everyone. My day is starting out at 34 degrees and will only get into the mid-50's with it remaining mostly cloudy all day.  The only thing on our agenda for today is a morning trip to Costco to stock up and Scott is coming to go with us and help us.  It shouldn't take us very long as our list isn't too long.  Pat and Scott will go to the meat department so Pat can pick out the meat she wants and I will get the frozen items and the item on the grocery shelves.  Over time I have noted what isle to find the various things we repeatedly buy. This avoids me having to go up the same isle repeatedly looking for another item.  Google has a neat little memo program called "Keep" that lets you make lists and when you get the item while shopping you put a little checkmark in the little box and it moves the item out of the active list but is available to use in the future by removing the check mark and so I can annotate the location of the item in the store.

Yesterday. after I got home from coffee, I did get our large Christmas wreath hung between the two windows in my office facing the street.  I got it last year and we hung it on the door but Pat thought it was too big for the door and it is just right for where it is place now. It is on our front porch so is well protected from the weather.  That is all the outside decorating I will do.  Pat fixed a really delicious baked chicken dish last evening using the boneless chicken breast.  She marked the recipe as a keeper.  I got quite a bit done yesterday and was ready to retire at bedtime and had a good night's sleep.

I know we are all rejoicing with Jenny in the birth of her new grandson.  Jenny, I was happy to see the picture and that sure looks like a healthy Jonas and a proud set of parents. Glad you had a good report on your eyes but sorry to read of the continued problems with the gout that Bob is experiencing.  I was sure you would pack emergency gear but that was something I probably would forget.  I will go to the Apple store to get an iWatch sometime next year.

Jane, congratulations on getting the insulation in.  You should be all set for the beginning of winter, which appears to be here.  I do remember "Inner Sanctum" on the radio. You are a wise lady to save a few of those gumdrops for yourself.

Shirley, I don't want to disillusion you but trying to block those scam calls is really a waste of time of effort on your part as they just use a different number and the calls continue.  It would be good if your new phones could recognize the scam calls and prevent them ringing.  I have the same problem with those calls awakening me from my afternoon rest period.

Radioman, Interesting story of how you became Santa Claus.  I hope you enjoy your brief stent as Santa where you live.  We are never to old to enjoy a visit from Santa and recall when we were children.

June, at least your confusion on dates spurred you on to get dressed to leave your apartment.  My wife has thought it was Saturday twice this week and one of those times was on Monday.

Lloyd, glad you got the Skype working and were able to see and talk with Peter.  I thought you and Nancy would be on your way to Florida by now.

Amy, you sure keep the roads busy with your frequent trips into your town.  Is the town and the city two different locations for you?

Good morning everyone on a sunny but cold morning. Had a light dusting of snow overnight. Odd one half of the parking lot had some snow and the other half had none. Where the sun in how hitting has snow and the half still in shadow has none. A case of it has to end somewhere?

LARRY  like you canned spinach or peas would turn my tummy. So over cooked and the smell. When my Skype updated to a new version a month ago I lost mine and my grandson answered my SOS and came and got it in again. I still don't understand this new one. Supposed to be easier and better. My daughter and I both dislike it. That Squeaking Door was either I love a Mystery or the Inner Sanctum. I do remember you never know what was going to happen, one of those programs that had me sitting on the edge of my seat.

JANE  thanks I could not remember what program that squeaking door started. We listened to so many way back in the "olden days". Glad your insulation done, mow you can stop trying to heat the outside and keep it in.

SHIRLEY  hate to say it but I think I am finally old. I feel the cold this year like I have never felt  it before. When I got into bed as soon as I warmed under the covers I would stick my feet out of the covers, this year I have not done that and I even pull the blankets up to my neck, another new thing for me. If this keeps up pretty soon I will be looking for some of the old granny flannel nightgowns instead of the summer ones I wear all year. I think you should leave that Snow Nut where it is. I don't want my winter buddy with broken bones sliding down the bank into a tree.

DON  hope you get to enjoy being Santa this year at your new home. That would be a great way to meet all your neighbors.

JUNE  I have days when all I want to do is sleep. I will send my CNA home after an hour so I can go lay on the bed and nap. Staying an hour instead of less she she will get paid. I will sleep till my daughter calls me on Skype and I get up and rush in here and that night I can go to bed between 7 & 8 and sleep all night and still not want to get up in the morning.

JENNY  every year when I get my eyes check the doctor dilates my eyes and after that more drops and a machine that looks way back and it's computer records what it sees. Takes the rest of the day for the blur fades and I can see right again. I don't know what he is looking for but he seems happy when he finishes reading the computer printout. Got your email, HOORAY for the wonderful happy couple and their little bundle of joy and happiness. and relief at last. Congratulations to the parents, the wait is over and the oh so anxious grandparents from Denver.
Have a good day.

Jenny, I'm happy to hear that Jonah finally made it into the world.  He is a good sized baby.  And he did arrive on Norm's birthday.

Gloria, I  have not reached the point where I am cold yet but that may be due to the fact I'm on the south side of my building so if the wind comes from the north, it has shoved the heat toward the computer room.  Maybe you should get a bed warmer!  Ha!

Tom and I went out for supper last night and I had a tilapia fish sandwich, hot like I like it.  For two days I watched the Bush funeral proceedings and it was interesting but now it is time to get on with other things.

Today I expect to finish putting my Christmas messages in envelopes (#10) so they can be mailed tomorrow.  I put money in the kids' envelopes and I had wanted them to go out earlier, but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to having others help.

Gloria, before frozen peas, my favorite was little canned peas but no more.  I guess if they went in a casserole, I could stand them.  They used to be a staple in my kitchen.

Good Friday Morning.

I know I have missed a few days, but I am doing well.  Just some busy days this week.

Monday, I had a funeral to go to..... Wed, played cards... Wednesday, I did watch most of the funeral for President Bush....  Yesterday in the morning, I watched more of the funeral service from Huston.....then, had a doctor's appt. and didn't get home until after 5..... and was surprised that the funeral was still going on, with the burial at the Bush museum... and then, ate a quick supper and went to play cards again.

I was glad that I got to see the end of the procession to the burial site.  It sure was a long walk through, what looked like a beautiful final resting place.  I am glad that the family finally got to all be together privately.  They all had to be exhausted after 4 days of so much activity. I hope they all had a good, restful evening and night.  It was really a beautiful few days.

Jenny, CONGRATULATIONS ! on the birth of little Jonah.  I know that family are super excited after that long wait.  I hope you will have a good trip to see him and also to see your dad.  Just have a safe trip.

Larry, so glad that you are feeling so much better.  I know you really do everything you can to stay healthy.

June, I don't think I could eat canned spinach.  I like spinach, uncooked in a salad, and I can eat fresh, cooked spinach once in a while.  The canned type just seems so "mushy".  But, if you like it, that is great. I do know it is good for you.

Gloria, glad you were able to get nice nap after your CNA left.

Jane, happy that all your Christmas gift-making is done. I have never heard of home-made gum drops.  Will have to look them up.  Happy that the workman was able to get the insulation job done and you won't have to worry about that anymore before the holidays.

Don, I think it is great  if you will be able to give some cheer to your new friends, if you get to play Santa there. I am sure you will be a "big hit" with the residents.

My  doctor's appt. went well yesterday. He was pleased with the results of the PET scan and I don't have to go back for 6 months.  So, I don't have to worry about any more doctor's visits until mid-January.  A big relief.

I have done some internet shopping already this morning and made a couple phone calls.  Now, I need to get moving along with my day.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Joy

Good Morning.

:congrats:
To The New Grandparents and
 :welcome: Jonah!!!!

Weather gurus and news stories all week have been about the Major Winter Storm headed our way for the weekend.  I missed all of the funeral services because I was "out and about" doing some Christmas shopping and laying in supplies.  By the time I got home from each outing, my feet and legs were demanding that I sit down and rest.

(Dr. Shirley,  feet problems are structural and are one of those things "that can't be cured so must be endured".  Have been meaning to tell you I found "Dr. Teal's Epsom Salts With Lavender" at CVS.   Scent is supposed to help with relaxation.  Haven't tried them yet but am looking forward to a good foot soak when I find that particular Round Tuit!)

The first reports were that today would be icy.  However, last night, the gurus were still saying Saturday will be a Big Snow Day but "don't change your plans for Friday".  So I won't.  ;)

The standing and moving activity will be trying to make half a recipe of the annual Martha Washington candy and maybe a batch of molasses or orange marmalade cookies.
The "sit down" activity will be finishing Christmas cards and the on-line shopping.  Only have two things to do that way.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable day.

Wrapped some gifts this morning after we picked up the meds. Yesterday went well, the young lad at audiology knew just what the problem was and had the hearing aides  fixed in no time!! Next was a bit of shopping then home.... Just got in the door and items almost put away when company came. Had tea and treats and had a great visit, then it was time to start supper.

Larry, the city is about 70 miles and most Dr appointments are there. Town is only a 14 min drive.

Joy, you are busy!!

Jane, so happy to read you have new insulation in....bet you will feel a big difference when  the temp drops!

Jane to get your font bigger click on the A with the red line beside it, you will be able to choose the size then.

Gloria,I am finding I too like to grab a cat nap......sometimes sleep is there other times it is just a lay down.

Don, hope you share photos of you in your Santa gear.

We are off to the dump this afternoon then I need to pick up some cards for the kids.

Enjoy your day.

AMY, I know about the a with the line beside it.  I want to make it bigger where I'm typing so I can see it better as I type.  There's a way to change the whole screen but I forgot how.

Gotta go feed the doggies....me too!

I'm just in to say Goodnight. Got a few things done this morning, made me happy, but after lunch downstairs I fell asleep and napped off and on  all afternoon. Now it is time to grab a bite to eat and back to bed. Hope tomorrow is more lively. Hugs and Prayers. June

Let me tell you about my day.  :tissue: Started out being so happy that my internet was on & phones working without dropping calls. Then I got an e-mail from Cox explaining about this new nomorobo.. free... supposed to catch the robo calls & not let them ring. Now that was icing on the cake until I got on the chat line with someone going to walk me through how to change my settings, absolutely NO extra on the bill or anything. Only my profile/settings/ doesn't think I have a right to change those settings because I am NOT the primary user. After taking the death certificate to their office here & jumping through hoops to have it switched to my name (even though when I set up this account Cas didn't even use a computer, but back 30 years ago everything had to be in the husband's name & Social Security number.  >:(  Anyway, I noticed over the years when I send e-mail from that account it still shows his name, that's okay, the house still has his name on the title but I pay the taxes. After several other people with Cox tried to fix my problem I finally reached a lady that actually lives here in Wichita! She was sympathetic & checked with her supervisor about what to do.  Supervisor said she will fill out a form to change to my name but probably won't be effective until Monday. How about them apples since it has been checks in MY handwriting for 30 years that paid the bills. In the meantime I've had one robo call after another all day, same one twice in less than an hour.

About noon I remembered that the frig "smelled" last night, not super bad smell, but decided cleaning it out was a must do today. As I started cleaning off a shelf I realized the food wasn't as cold as it should be.... kept digging & then opened the freezer side & everything was totally melted, didn't even have water or cubes in the ice maker! My packages of solidly frozen Steamer veggies were squishy, not a trace of ice in them. Panic time. Unit is at most 10 years old, can't find the manual with bill of sale stapled to it, all those things in one packet in one drawer but I needed the space so moved it. I needed to know how to turn it off, to check for fixes, etc...

I started looking online as soon as I got out the steel tape to measure since it is built into the cabinets. Pretty sure this is the 3rd since we've been here. For the last 50 years I've pushed to have ice in the door because we were all big ice users & was practical. Ice makers go bad with hard water. This time I'm not going to have an ice maker at all because the cubes taste icky with our water. I use trays in the RV & fill them with bottled water so can drink the water as it melts, can't do that with cubes made from our city water!

I checked the ceiling in the basement & sure enough, another water spot bigger than the one that was there when we bought the house. We didn't use that room so never bothered to replace the stained panels in the ceiling. BUT, the floor under that frig is the new oak wood so must get it dried as fast as I can, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. Have big black trash bags ready to throw all the food in the freezer & most in the frig away. Some of the meat I will take down to the river for the coyote or whatever is hungry. Nothing stays there more than a few hours so it isn't "wasted". I hauled what could be saved out to the RV, even though the frig wasn't on, the thermometer in it said 40 degrees, I plugged it into garage power & turned the frig/freezer on, even filled some ice cube trays so can have some if I want.

So far I haven't found any place that can deliver a new unit in less than a week. Have one more place to call in the morning. Sad that they have all gone to "central warehouses" and you can't just buy & be delivered that day anymore.  In spite of being bone tired I'm still excited about possibly being able to stop some of the robo calls & so far not a single dropped call or internet drop.

So now it's bedtime, I'm drained, bring on the zzzzzzzzzzzzs. Wishing all a good night.

Shirley, I believe it is Ariel..with the size of 4. Sure don't envy the job ahead of you. Hope the men that deliver will also take your old one with them so you won't have to deal with it.

Time to shake a leg and get at it.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, brrrr 15° and windchill of 7°. Time for those woolen geemagotchees for sure.

MARY ANN  I have lost so much weight that  now I have no more blubber to hold the heat  in. Not trying to lose  the weight but I have no more appetite and could go all day without eating and I still would not be hungry. Wish I knew the name of what Lillias and Mare had that  gave them an appetite. Of course I am not very active anymore either. I am on the southwest side of this building. Only can food I buy is tomatoes and sauerkraut, everything else is fresh or frozen.

JOY  you were a very busy lady the past week. Don't know what I would do without my CNA, the one I have now is the best one so far.  I tell her she is spoiling me. My doctor and dentist know I don't like winter appointments so schedule mine between March and November, no more winter ones.

BUBBLE  thank you for the link.

DON  the only thing here we can put out to display is something on our doors like a wreath or spray of artificial pine boughs. Have to have a hook that goes over the top of the door. Nothing pinned on the door.

CALLIE  my daughter sent me an email with a picture of cookies on a rack coo‌ling. Something tells me I will be getting them in the mail next week. Gingersnaps, she know I like the homemade ones and I made them often. Would be shocked now if I don't get them. She is a terrible tease and will hint at things and even if I guess right she will not say anything.

AMY  I seldom fall asleep when I lay on the couch in the afternoon, I do it to rest my back so it does not hurt as much the rest of the day.

SHIRLEY  I have Cox, too, but have not heard about the nomorerobo  calls thing. Guess I should call and ask about it. Sorry about your fridge and all the wasted food.

Have a good day, keep warm.

Good morning!  It is a cloudy and chilly morning here with "the Storm" expected tonight.  My fridge, freezer and pantry are all in good shape so we won't go hungry.  David lit the pilot light on the gas logs so we won't be cold if the power goes out.  And, I have no plans to leave the house so we won't be driving.  All seems to be ready.  The weather people don't seem to be able to predict how much snow we will get so it will be "whatever".

A new little face is looking out on our world.  Happy Homecoming, Jonah!  May your life be long, happy, healthy, and full of love.

I haven't made the PB and Chocolate Cracker candy yet but maybe today.  I wasn't feeling full of energy yesterday but did manage to make a big pot of Ham and Bean soup.  So good last night and warmed the innards very nicely.

A bowl of warm oatmeal is calling me so will talk to you all later.

Good morning on this very cold, but sunny morning.

Just stopping by to say Hello !

I am planning on making some butternut squash soup today.  I had some a while back at Panera's Bread place and it was so good. I found a "copy-cat" recipe that I am going to try.  I will share some of it with my sons.

Hopefully, Jenny will have a picture of little Jonah to share with us. I am sure she is anxious to be able to go see him. What a special Christmas gift for all of them.

Good morning to all the special friends who have checked in this morning,,,,,,,,Amy, Lloyd, Gloria and Phyllis and all the others who will show up later.  Phyllis, yes, it does sound like you will be getting some snow.  Thankfully, it looks like it will stay south of my area, here in Maryland.  I am not ready for snow yet.

I will try to check back later in the day.

Enjoy the day.

Joy

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I see that I neglected to stop by and say "Goodnight" last night.  I was really tired when I came home from work and I had left some unfinished jobs to do.  When I finished up, it was time to feed the doggies and me and then I just blanked out.  I woke up around 8 got involved with packing my boxes for Texas and Oklahoma and then went to bed.

I slept well and I feel much better this morning.  I'm going to go with my daughter to the "Strip" where there are a lot of stores and an enclosed mall and a strip mall.  I hope to be able to finish my Christmas shopping.  I'm afraid that's an idle hope but you know the saying....Hope springs eternal....  I'know, it doesn't fit here but humor me.

SHIRLEY, I am so sorry to hear about your fridge!  What a catastrophe.  If you lived around here, you would already have a new fridge installed.  I know this guy who sells them and he says, a bad fridge or freezer comes first before anything else.  And he removes the old one.  By the way, he's rather closely related to me!  He's my son and that's his busness!

JOY, I think I have that soup recipe copied, too but I'm not going to try it before Christmas.  I'm eating out of jars and boxes until I get ready for Christmas.  But it sure does sound good.  Let me know how you like it after you try it.  And, PLEASE, keep the snow away from here.  We had a dusting overnight Thursday night and it was still laying on the roads when I went to work on Friday.  The list of weather conditions when I prefer NOT to drive is getting longer and longer!  I wonder how long it will be until they all run together?

I hope you all have a good day.  Grab it and make it your own.

Hi Everyone.  The rain has set in for a couple of days with a 100% guarantee for this afternoon and evening.  As of now I plan on just staying home today and take care of somethings here in my office, listening to Christmas music, and then this afternoon take it easy.  Scott did take us over to Costco yesterday morning and we set a new record for spending the most money on groceries at one time ever but we are now well stocked.  Unfortunately I forgot to put the curtains we have to return in the car so will have to make another quick trip over there to return them next week.  There are plenty of college basketball games on TV to watch this afternoon.

Gloria, when I was growing up and listening to the radio I don't think we have many stations to choose from so pretty much had to listen to one of a few stations. Evenings generally were the only time we listened as on the farm there wasn't time during the day unless mother was ironing.  I do remember listening to Don McNeil's Breakfast Club and Arthur Godfrey.  I have had to add a couple more layers of a warm blanket across my legs when I am in bed or my legs won't get warm.  Have you tried any of the nutritional drinks like Boost?

Joy, it sounds like you had all of the activities this week that you wanted.  I appreciated the fact that the Bush family finally had a private time to say their goodbye's as everything else had been so public and that gave them private time to let go of their emotions.  I was thinking that George W. is now the patriarch of the family.  Glad your doctor's appointment went well and it is always good to hear to come back in six months.  I had thought I was through with doctor appointments for the rest of the year and then had to go last week and he wants to see me in 2 months rather than 6 so after the first of the year the appointments start again.

Bubble, thank for posting that cute pictures for Don.

Callie, I hope you don't get snowed under this weekend but glad you are stocked up and won't have to get out until things are clear again.

Amy, your trips to the city would be daunting especially during the winter months.  We were fortunate to have a decent sized town only about 6 miles from where we lived on the farm as I was growing up.  Here we live about 10 minutes or so from our little downtown area or the Augusta, Georgia area is just a couple of minutes more.

Shirley, it sounds like you had the royal runaround with Cox.  I hope things will be fixed by Monday. Sure sorry to hear of your woes with the refrigerator.  I am shocked that it would take a week to get a new refrigerator.

Lloyd, once the software is updated, which it will be from time to time, it won't be set back to what it was.

Phyllis, glad you have a heat source if you lose power.  Unfortunately we do not have that as our fireplace is just for looks and is electric and there is no heat from it at all.  It wouldn't work anyway if we lose power.  I do have a kerosene heater in the attic but would hate to use it in the house.  Our concern here during the winter is ice and not snow.

Jane, I hope you are able to get your Christmas shopping completed today.

Good morning, again, to Jane and Larry.

Jane, I am anxious  to taste the soup to see if it is like what I had at Paneras.  I already had the squash cut up in the freezer, so it wasn't hard to put it together.   I even bought a new Immersion blender to be able to puree it, without having to transfer it into a blender.  The Immersion blender I had had for a long time was broke.  It isn't an appliance that you use a lot, but it sure does come in handy at times.

Enjoy your trip to the mall.  I was hoping to go up to the Amish market in Shrewsbury, but my DIL asked if I could go next week instead.  That will work out ok.  Just like a few things that I can get there.  The bakery place there, which I can't remember the name, has lots of bulk spices and mixes and things like that that I like to get. Plus good bakery things. I know there is one up near Lancaster, also.

Larry, hope you will have a good restful day.  Glad that you are feeling better.

And, Shirley, so sorry about your fridge "dying".  Sure hope you won't have to wait  too long for a new one.

Have a good rest of the day.

Joy

Good morning, everyone.  I think we had a dusting of snow overnight and radar shows we should not get more - at least for today.

Larry, I've been listening to Christmas music too.  If I keep the sound low enough, I don't hear the screeching of modern singers.  We didn't have many radio stations either and one was split between two call letters - WASH and WOOD.  We still have WOOD, both radio and TV.  I used to listen to Don Mc Neil's Breakfast Club too.  I listened to Arthur Godfrey too.

Since I've been here (37 years), I've replaced all of my appliances, the refrigerator twice and I bought the replacements at Lowe's, who are just down the avenue from me, maybe a couple of miles.  I had delivery on everything the following day.  Even when I worked in an appliance department, if a customer bought something by a certain time (maybe 2 pm?), we could get a refrigerator to them the next day.  Other things might take two days.

Jane, I knew who you mean when you wrote about appliance service; you are fortunate to have a son in the business.  Helps with service too.  That is one thing I miss today.  My appliance department was part of the electric utility and we also had an appliance repair department.  We even had a small appliance repair and we sold light bulbs.  The utility hasn't sold appliances since 1973 and current dealers don't have the service we, or even they, used to provide.  "Them days is gone forever!"

I think I've shot my wad this morning.  Maybe see you later.  I have Christmas preparations to take care of.

I'm home and I got everything I needed to finish up the boxes for sending.  I still have two items to look for but I think I can find them in town.

I'm just finishing my lunch and the doggies are out for the third time since I got home.  When they come in, I'M FINISHING THE BOXES AND TAPING THEM SHUT AND MONDAY THEY GO TO THE POST OFFICE.

Later, gators!  Enjoy your day!

JOY!  Is the soup ready yet?

Good Afternoon,

No snow - no slick pavement - water in bird bath isn't even frozen.

I've "met" Jonah on Facebook!  :nanadance:  He is precious!  So alert he looks as if he's saying, "Hello, World. I'm just so proud to be here."

Today was "oven day".  Plan A was to bake cookies for household helpers, Bridge Club and family - plus at least one veggie casserole for me.  Then my neighbor called to take me up on my offer to bake cookies for the neighborhood Christmas House Tour.
I remembered I had an easy recipe for molasses cookies and had noted "makes a lot".
 ... I have 3 cookie sheets of different sizes.  So... 20 plus 16 plus 12 plus 6, x2, -1 for taste testing  ;) =  101 cookies!  I made half plain and put finely crushed peppermint candy in the other half.
Cookies are supposed to be iced and I'll get cans of frosting and will ice as needed

The veggie casseroles can wait! :sleepy:

Off to be a Recliner Radish for a while....

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Callie, lucky you to see Jonah's picture on Facebook.  I'm not on Facebook so I'll have to wait until he appears in S&F.

Tom, Dot, Jan and I went to the Olive Garden for lunch today.  Jan's work hours and care of her parents have kept us apart for a while so she was able to come alone today and it was good where we could all bring her up to date with our activities and she could bring us up to date.  I gave her my Christmas card which consisted of pictures of all of Norm's family and she was glad to get it.  I gave her one for her parents too (their grandchildren are on it).

Callie, I have a recipe for molasses cookies that I have made in past years and when I have luck with them, they look just like the ones you see pictured that have cracks and sugar on them.  I don't have the ambition to make them now.  I am a Constant Radish Recliner, as you put it.

Good afternoon everyone. well if any of you ladies are old enough to rember doing your ironing with a flat iron with a wooden handle that removes and switches from iron to iron. and you heated it on the wood cook stove. and would like to try your luck at it again. I have a set of six and one handle. also have a round oak cook stove. just stop by and go back in time for a while. we could bake some brisket's I have some home made butter made from sweet cream and some molasses also. oh yes I one later iron with iron handle on it, I guess you would either usa a pot holder or your apron tail to hold it with so not to burn your self. have a good rest of the day going back in time.

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.

We have been busy with holiday commitments so I have not had much time to check in.

Last night we went down town Denver to have  Birthday celebrations dinner with Brian and Cathy.  They always take us to new and unique places that we would never go on our own to, and we always have a wonderful time and the food was exceptional.

Last night was a bit rough at the hospital. Mama's milk has not come in yet and Jonah was HUNGRY and quite fussy most of the night.  Today they got all the paperwork signed and heard all the results of the routine tests they do on new babies, so they were going to be checked out and headed home.

Thank you all for all the cute, loving comments about this new little baby boy.  I appreciate them more than words can say.

I am sorry that everyone does not have access to Face Book, but I will be more than happy to share his pictures with any one that wants to share their email with me. Bob is going to try to set up a web page that can be accessed, but not sure when that will be done.

SHIRLEY, I am so sorry to read about your fridge dying....what a mess!  I sure wish you lived in the delivery area of Jane's Son....you would be well take care of.....

Off to start a little dinner of left over soup....so it will be quick!

💞 and hugs to all❣️

I got the alcohol iron that my grandmother loaned to my mother when we first moved "to the edge of town" where there was no electricity, water or anything else, at the end of WWII.  It didn't take Dad long to rig up a generator system to supply lights for the house & to run the well, my mother was not thrilled with this move. It came with quite a bit of land & not another house in sight that Dad liked, so he had to make it livable quick to make Mom happy. They lived in it the rest of their lives & a niece still owns it. Dumb me, that iron was still in it's original box which I threw away during one move. Gave the iron to Andy some years ago.

But I do remember those other flat irons that were kept on the Warm Morning stove in the kitchen, because my mother still ironed tablecloths for the kitchen table. What I really would have liked to have kept was the "kitchen stove" that Dad's mother had in the "dining room" that kept food warm on top as the wood burned & kept the dishes warm in that little oven above. That room had a huge table, the wood burning stove (it was fairly new & was carved or whatever you call iron that has curls on it) and a carved walnut hutch that always held a prune cake on a pedestal carved & part of the hutch. I really didn't like that cake but it was considered a prize creation when ever served, and we weren't allowed to not say, "no, thank you" back then.

Jane, I called my neighbor that seems to always know someone (the pool guy was her recommendation) & she told me of a local store, probably like your son's, to check with. I called, he figured what I needed when I gave him the size of the old one, I go Monday morn to write him a check & they will deliver Tuesday & take away the old. I'm guessing the old might need a simple part that makes it cool but I didn't want to have repair bills & still have to worry about this happening again. Can't believe how much food & condiments got wasted. The freezer & frig were both packed full. But, it's done... will be soon, anyway.

Mary Ann, you are lucky to have friends to "eat out" with. My best friend lives across town & isn't much into eating. She is always dieting. I generally get carry out or go through a drive through & bring home to eat. With no frig I am eating Marie Callendar & Boston Market today, no left overs for me. As soon as I get the new frig in & cold, I'm going to defrost that freezer in the basement, before it gives up! My cooking jag the last couple weeks has not paid off! boo hoo.....

Amy & Callie, you both are a disgrace with getting so much baking done... bad enough to have the pink bunny Jane always a day ahead, but y'all are wearing me out with how organized you are. "Organized" is not in my vocabulary!!! One crisis after another around here. This, too, shall pass....................

Oh, Gloria, I talked to Doris today, she sounds the same, had a gr-daughter returning a couch she'd borrowed & Doris was happy to get it back in her basement sitting room. She really is a nice person & always laughs at my crazy life. Had to tell her today that on top of everything else being a mess, I noticed I had my underwear on inside out this morning AFTER I had my shoes & jeans on.

Sweet dreams to all & hope you have a Super Sunday!  Oops, you snuck in, Jenny! I hope they feed that little Jonah soon. My kids got bottles & they still love me.  ;) So nice that you have kids around to take you out, family is good.  :smitten:

AMY we all have lot of antiques. and I may be one also. now and ten I get to thinking i want a cow or a milk goat but i have a better thought that beats that. when I was in my teens was milking with a devalave milking machine and a old bridal cow had the kickers on and kicked with both feet at once and kicked me through the side of a tin covered barn and spillt it . no broken bones but very sore. have a good rest of the day.

My old iron that I don't use when I use an iron is an old Westinghouse 4# electric iron that belonged to my mother - and it still works, but as I said, I don't use it.  However, I could!  My mother has been gone 77 years so that iron is about 80+ years.  I know the sad irons are much older.

Shirley, I don't have any friends to have lunch with any more, all of my friends have died.  Today was family;  Dot (Norm's wife), Jan (Terry's wife), Tom (nephew) and me.  We did enjoy being together and catching up on what we all have been doing.

I've kind of had buyer's remorse with the refrigerator I got earlier this year.  I could have had the motor replaced at a cost of $288 and there would have been a short warranty - maybe three months, but I thought it would be less expensive in the long run to get a new refrigerator - which I did.  My old one had equipment for an ice maker an this one does not, something I did not notice at first.  I don't particularly want an ice maker, but at least I had the capability of having one connected.  Now I'd have to buy the ice maker.  I have plenty of cube trays of all sizes - from former refrigerators.

I used to make a prune cake and we all loved it.

It's getting toward my bedtime so I better feed the cat before I hit the hay.

I'm just popping in to say "Good Night Everyfriend".  The doggies have been out one last time and I'm ready to hit the hay!

SHIRLEY, I'm so glad you found a "Phil" in your area that will take good care of you with a quick replacement.  Sounds like he does business like my son.

I remember my grandmother using a set of irons that got heated on the stove.  That was up on the farm.  The only iron I remember at the house where I lived was an electric one and the grandmother who lived there, hated it.  She said she couldn't move around and she felt tied down.  But when my parents bought a contraption that we all called "THE IRONER" (some folks called it a "mangle")  She took over there.  She ironed all the sheets, pillow cases and anything that could be laid flat (Including the pant legs of any pants that came through the laundry).  She was very good at that and I at about 7 or 8 years old, I always wondered why she never ironed her hands or burned herself.  She amazed me!

I better get to bed.  Tomorrow, morning will come pretty early and it's going to be a busy day beginning with church at 8 a.m.

Sleep well my friends and enjoy your day tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I see I was last in last night and here I am, first in today.  I have to be moving along or I won't be ready when it's time to leave for church.

It's 18 degrees out there right now and that's COLD!  BRRRRR!  I'll try to get back in to see what ya'll are up to later but much of my activity today is away from home and when I'm home, I have to get my boxes packed.  Have a good day.  Stay warm and be happy!

Hi Everyone.  It has been a very cold, windy and rainy night and the morning continues this way.  It is suppose to rain all morning and then the chances go down substantially around noon. While I stayed home all day yesterday I am ready and plan on attending Sunday School and Church this morning.  If it isn't too rainy when Church is over I will pick up something to bring home for our dinner.  Last evening we enjoyed stuffed peppers from Costco,  a big lettuce and carrot salad and a delicious cookie. I noticed my heat pump was making a terrible noise this morning and found it was freezing up.  So I have switched it to the emergency heat setting and hope that soon resolves the issues and keeps us warm in the interim.  I do have an electric space heater that I may have to call into service.  It is going to stay in the  40 degrees today.

Joy, I have no idea what an Immersion blender is.  We recently got a new food processor and it has a puree setting.  Is that what the Immersion blender does?  I see you didn't get to the Amish market as you hoped.

Mary Ann, since I have a paid Spotify account from which I listen to the Christmas music, I don't hesitate to move on to the next song if I don't care for the arrangement as I have no limits imposed with doing that.  Since we moved I no longer have men friends to go out to eat with nor do we have couples that Pat and I can go out to eat with and we miss doing that as that was a big part of our social life before we moved.  I sure don't want a refrigerator without an ice maker as I love ice and we use a lot of it.

Jane, I know you will be relieved to get your boxes sent off and then perhaps you can take things a bit easier.  My grandmother had a mangle and she also ironed everything in site it seemed.  Ironing is hard for Pat do do anymore.  I try to buy wash and wear clothing that doesn't need ironing.

Callie, I hope the bad snow storms missed you.  I think it is from that same storm front that we are now getting the rain.  It sounds like you had quite a cookie factory going.  I expect if Pat makes any more cookie they will be the kind that come already prepared and you just break them apart and bake them or we will get our cookies at Costco, which are so good.

Lloyd, I have seen one of those irons you described but don't remember my mother or grandmother ever having to use one of them, although they probably did before we had electricity brought to our farm by the REA.  I guess anything over 50 years old can qualify as an antique so I guess that includes us.  That was quite a milking experience you had as a young boy.  I do remember having those kickers available but don't remember that we often had to use them.

Amy, even though I grew up on a daily farm I never had to do the milking by hand as we had two milking machines.  You had to start the milk flow and then attach the milking machine.  It sounds you also had the cookie factory going yesterday.

Jenny, nice to see you had a great Birthday celebration with Brian and Cathy and got to try out a good restaurant.  It is not often we can call the food we get out exceptional.  No wonder Jonah was fussy if he was hungry.  Now the fun begins with having Jonah home.

Shirley, I have never heard of an alcohol iron before.  I do hope you get your new refrigerator on Tuesday.  We occasionally eat the Marie Callendar frozen dinners and they are usually pretty good although some are better than others.

Good morning everyone, we are still in the deep freeze here and cloudy this morning, just heard on local weather report it will be like this for most of the week but the winds later in the week will change from the northwest to the southwest so it will warm up. Sure hope so. Looks like a bad storm coming across the country and those weather guessers make it sound that the southern states will get more snow than we will get here.

PHYLLIS  hope your area does not get much show. At least here in the northeast we expect snow but not quite this cold.

JOY  a neighbor of mine makes the squash soup and gave me some and it was very tasty. I love butternut squash anyway.

JANE  hope you enjoyed you shopping trip with your daughter yesterday.  I still miss going shopping with my daughter, we always had a lot of fun together.

LARRY  just heard on the news that we will have a dry week with no rain for a change. We sure have had more than enough the last 6 weeks. I have 2 bottles of high protein Ensure every day, my doctor wants me to drink 3 a day but that is a bit too much. Seems I am cold most of the time lately. Would not miss Arthur Godfrey when he went on TV either. I liked him. Remember when he gave things away to the audience and he would say "for free take for buy waste time"?

LLOYD  I remember my Mother using an iron like that. I was happy when they came out with the steam irons so we did not have to sprinkle clothes before ironing. I still have one of those black cast iron irons that had to be heated on the stove, I use it as a door stop.

AMY  I have everything needed to make date squares and this week my CNA and I will be making them. I could eat a whole batch of them, I love dates. Would love the pecan ones but need a few teeth replaced before I could eat them.

JENNY  my grandson put Facebook on my computer but I have not gone there in months now. I really did not want it to begin with.

SHIRLEY  my Mom ironed everything and starched all clothes we wore. Wonder if anyone starches clothing anymore. I really should call Doris but I really dislike being on the phone for more than a few minutes.

Better get a move on , have a good day and keep warm.

Good morning .

It is a little cloudy this morning, but it seems we are going to miss the big snow storm that is heading east.  I live pretty close to the Pennsylvania line, and even if southern Maryland gets a few flurries, we are far enough north to miss even the flurries. It does look like a rather odd storm to be so far south. Although, I guess Western Virginia and North Caroline will get most of the snow, while other areas, like where Larry is, will just get the rain.  Sure hope it doesn't turn into a disaster in some areas.

Larry, here is  a link for the Immersion blender. It isn't something that you use very often , but sure is nice to ave one.  I could have used a blender, but then I would have had to transfer the soup into several batches in order not to overload the blender with the hot mixture. With the Immersion blender, you can use it right in the container where the soup already is in it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TJTASYG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

JANE, yes. the soup was good.  My daughter-in-law came over to help me get some Christmas things down from my closet and I gave her some for their dinner, along with some sourdough bread and a container of coleslaw. She called me later and said they really enjoyed it.  I had wanted to give some to my other son, but after I saved enough for me, there wasn't any left.  It really only made about 2 quarts.  I do plan to make another batch when I can get the squash already cut up. Weis usually has it cut up.  I had ordered the squash a couple weeks ago, and had ordered the cut-up kind, but they delivered the whole squash.  I had a hard time getting it cut up, although I had put it in the microwave for a while to try to soften it up.  I wouldn't do that again, so I will have to really specify that I want the cut-up kind.  Wish I could share some with you.

I do remember my mom using an iron that she had to heat up on the stove.  With all the different kinds of appliances now, we have to wonder how people got along as well as they did, way back when !

I need to get myself dressed and get out in our sitting area and decorate the little Christmas tree.  My daughter-in-law did find the box of lights and little decorations that I just couldn't seem to find.  That will be my big job for the day.

Shirley, glad you found a place where you can get a new fridge soon.

Have a great rest of this Sunday.

Joy

A good Sunday morning to EVERYFRIEND!

AMY, to quote you, quite often I have a "I am up but my at'tem must have stayed in bed!" feeling in the mornings!  😂😂

LARRY, I remember quite a few times when we lived in AZ and had a heat pump, that it would freeze up if it got too cold, or even too hot on the AC side.  My dad had this issue last week with his! I have not had a morning update on how the first night at home went for Jonah.  Oh my, all the new things those two parents have coming will leave the sleep deprived for sure!  Nice to read that you enjoyed the stuffed peppers from COSTCO.  I looked at them the other day and ALMOST bought them.

JOY, your soup did sound yummy.  Glad you and the family enjoyed it so much.  Happy decorating today....take it slow and easy.....do not want you to over do it!

We had both Doodle Doggies here with us last night. Lola came on Friday as her parents were headed to Vail for a weekend of skiing, and the friends they were having with them have a daughter that is scared of all dogs, even tiny little Lola!  Oliver came yesterday afternoon as his parents were going to mamma's Christmas Party and the group stays overnight in a hotel so they do not have to drive after the celebration.  They both will be going home today.  Dr. Dave sent a video and it is really snowing heavy in Vail....hope the roads will not be too bad for their drive home!

OK, I HAVE A LOT to get done so I better go collect my "at'tem" out of the bed and get with it!

Enjoy your Sunday.

Jenny

I guess nobody missed me because there were hardly any postings since I last read.

JOY, I just might have to try your soup!  It sounds like it was a hit.

JENNY, I thought you already left for California.  How can you give Jonah a hug from all of us if you're not there!  I guess it will have to wait.

My daughter Cathy, my granddaughter Kiran (Not Cathy's daughter) and I went to the movies to see "The Sound of Music".  It was a fun afternoon.  And since the movie theater now belongs to the University, we had a spiel by the lady who teaches a class about film history to give us some background on the movie.  And they arranged for the words to all the songs  to be shown on the bottom of the screen and they encouraged sing alongs.

Now I have to feed the doggies and their "mother" and then get back to my package packing!

Good evening, and it is also very cold here, and that is bothering my breathing. I am using the oxygen more and more. very tired but I have been to three  Christmas Parties. Nephew is still down in NC tasking care of his father.  I miss him being here. I now have to ask people to take me places, The neighbor hood is changing. I have a new next door neighbor, and the man across the street from me has bladder cancer and his son is staying with him but it is a senior park so I guess there is always a lot of changes.

I was just looking at the cam on Time Square whie horse in the traffic, not a police horse.

Jenny, I do not know if I mention that I read about that beautiful new arrival, I kind of lost tract of time this week.  by the way I have gout in the 2ns toe and fingers. no fun

Gloria De, I'm sorry the weather is causing breathing problems for you, but it's good to hear from you.

I got Tom to turn on my humidifier this morning because I could feel that my nose was drier than it should be.  The humidifier helps keep it a bit warmer in here too.

Dot and I went to church this morning, then did our usual breakfast/brunch at Mr Burger.  Usual for us is a cream pie and tuna melt, both of which we split.  The person who takes the order now knows when he/she sees Dot that we get two plates!

I hope things improve for you.

GLORIA de, this time of the year can become very stressful with extra things that need to be done.....parties and the like.  Then to have the breathing problems also. I bet you do miss your nephew.  In a senior area there are always changes, and sometimes the ones that are the healthiest are the ones that get sick and pass so quickly.  Glad you got the news about Our Little Baby Jonah.  I wish I could post pictures but I do not know how.  I have tried to send email to those that do not have Face Book.  The gout is terribly painful and I am sorry you are dealing with it.  Bob is taking Allopurinol for his, but had a sore big toe mid week.  He went for a blood test on Thursday so they can check to see if it has helped him or if he needs to take a bigger dose?

MARYANN, nice to read you and Dot did church and a meal together.  I hope you shared with her that we were pleased to have our baby born on Norm's Bday?

My Broncos did not play well today at all, so another loss!

I have to go get more accomplished.

Have a great evening.

Gloria de, sorry you are having health problems and not pleased with changes, I'm with you about nothing being the same. Different world than even a few years ago. You have such a good outlook I fully expect to read you are off for a party tomorrow!  Do you have any type cab service there?  My mother's neighbor never learned to drive so she found a cab driver she trusted & set it up that when ever she needed to go any place HE would be the one to come get her & take her home. She figured it was still cheaper than owning a car. I hate to think of giving up driving but know that day will come.

Jenny, how cum the name "Don Shovein" doesn't ring a bell?  I even checked the Members list & don't find him. What name do we know him by?? Please....  I've been watching the Monarch Pass web came & been quite a bit of snow up there (a good thing, I think)... hope the kids get out of Vail without any trouble, that is a wicked stretch of highway.

Janie, I do keep track of your running around. Between your dogs & my cats & both families, we never know what tomorrow will bring, huh?

Joy, I have 2 boxes of decorations sitting in the entry hall waiting to be put up but it might just go back into the closet. I never did get out the garland to put over the door facings or the Christmas tablecloth & all the serving dishes..... may skip that tea I was going to have. By the time the frig gets cold enough to put food in on Wed, I will need to do some major shopping for the every day things I had to throw away. Zip, there goes another day!

I am ready to go to bed but it is only 7:10 .... cats already had their "midnight snack", but Callie is outside, Tiger off to the bedroom end of the house & Tom went to the basement in disgust, he couldn't get anyone to play with him. He checked to see if his mother was interested & she swatted him with her paw and decided she'd rather go out, so he hunkered down to chase Tiger & she growled to let me know he was pestering her.... so I let her go down the hall & closed that folding wooden door to separate them. Tom would have liked to go out but he hangs out with the wild crowd & is not nice back in the house, so he doesn't get to go out at night anymore.

Gloria, I remember the baskets of "sprinkled" clothes rolled up waiting to be ironed when I was little & I did do quite a bit of the ironing, good training for all those mens dress shirts I spent the next 50 years doing. Only I cheated with the starch, used spray starch on the collar & cuffs & right down the front which was behind a tie. I probably have at least 6 spray/steam irons on a shelf in the basement, that need to be "de-limed".  I use Brita water when I don't have distilled on hand & still spray & iron all the knits I wear "out of the house". I don't mind ironing but get angry when the steam spits out streaks of lime. Seems every time I have one iron wearing out I find one on sale almost as cheap as buying a bottle of Lime Away to clean it out. I don't think I've had a washer last 10 years in all the years we've lived in KS. Hard water.

Kids will be calling to check on me soon, think I will get ready for bed, the cats will want one more dish of something... pain in the neck to run downstairs every time to get their food & back down to put it away.

The leaf shredder I ordered got here today, right before Andy came by to find the shut off valve for the ice maker. It wasn't where it should be behind the frig, so had to move several ceiling panels downstairs to find it. Then Andy set up the leaf shredder to make sure I could handle it. I got the one he suggested & he was proud of how well it works & easy for me to set up & use. Ideally I could hire yard guys to pick up leaves once, but that doesn't happen here. So far I have picked up 7 bags (HUGE bags) of leaves & filled the dumpster each week as well. Today I filled 2 bags that would have filled at least half a dozen (Andy said, he read all the reviews). Most people pick up leaves only once but this house catches them. I recognize leaves & do not have but maybe 1 in 20 trees of the type I pick up. "Take advantage of the poor little old lady"..... :2funny: I'm tired, rambling... want a cold bottle of water but already have 2 started on the cabinet & think I'll go set them back out in the garage & get another cold one in. I usually keep a bottle in the frig to nip at all day.

Mary Ann, when the furnace man came to winterize I had a new filter ready for him to install in the humidifier... sure helps make the place feel warmer & cuts out the static electricity. Today after Mass was over we were all sitting in the lounge where coffee/OJ/water & donuts served & the little great grand with all the hair looked like she stuck her finger in a socket, her hair would "foof" up if anyone put their hand an inch or so above her head. It is a big room with high ceiling so would be impossible to run a humidifier, but I never noticed being that dry before.

Jenny,  :tissue: sorry about your Broncos.....

Good night, sweet dreams & God Bless.  Shirley

Shirley, my humidifier is not on the furnace but is a small portable one.

Jenny, I forgot to tell Dot about Jonah being born on Norm's birthday but I will.  We talk about everything under the sun when we get together.

I've been watching the Weather Channel and I don't recall the last time our area got a foot of snow in one day as NC and/or VA have.  We are to be sunny tomorrow, cloudy for three days, then snow on Friday but the high temp will be 37 degrees so we won't have much.

We were talking about ironers/mangles the other day.  I bought a used one and used it for some time, ironing my dad's shirts and I think I did a good job.  I finally got tired of using it and it took up space we could use otherwise, so I sold it.  I liked to iron and learned on my dad's handkerchief and our pillow cases.  Another thing, we could only get white pillow cases (also sheets and there were no fitted sheets at that time) so I had to crochet edgings for the pillow cases.  I haven't crocheted edgings in years and years and years.  I still have the pillow cases now, but they'd have to be ironed and I don't do ironing any more!

SHIRLEY,  Don Shovein is Carol's husband....I think.  At least she said he was having a birthday and that's their last name....I think?

I'm off to Dreamland.  I got the packages ready to be mailed to Texas and OKla.  So I can breath a sigh of relief for that.  However, I texted my grandniece who goes to college right down the road and asked her when would be their last trip home before Christmas.  She said, "We're both finished with finals Tuesday so we're heading home for Christmas on Wednesday.  Next emergency...pack the bags for my niece and my sister and brother and get them to Bridget before dark on Tuesday.  Doesn't leave much time.  That will be my project for tomorrow.

Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, Every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I see that once more I was the last poster for yesterday and the first one for today.  I'm up and attem!  Unfortunately, I can't leave attem in bed these days.  It has to accompany me wherever I go and today is going to be a busy one.  I'm going to take a chance and do a couple errands in town right after work.  The doggies will have to wait a bit for me to get home.

This morning is going to be a busy one even before I go to work.  I have to get organized so I don't forget something I need for in the bags for my sister, etc.

I wish you all warmth, love and no snow or rain!  Enjoy your day!

Good morning everyone, another cold frosty one but luckily no rain or snow.

JOY  heard on the news that some places in the southeast got over a foot of snow. They sure do not know how o handle it like we do here in the northeast.  The market I go to has many different vegetables all cu up, sure makes it easy with those hard to peel and cut like the butternut squash. I often wonder how my Mom did all she did for the family. Guess they grew up when things were even harder.

JANE  wonder how many times I have seen The Sound of Music and always enjoyed it. Yesterday I watched 2 old films on TV. White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street, the original one. I enjoyed both even if I had seen both in the movies so many years ago and on TV

GLORIA de  in the 4 1/2 years I have been here we have lost too many and so many new ones move in. Some are very nice and a couple most of us stay away from when we can. One is always asking someone for help or to take her shopping. One lady was so tired of it she finally told her to find someone else-she even has her own car and is not helpless.

SHIRLEY  I still miss my own car and the independence I had. It has bee about 6 years now when I felt I was an accident looking for a place to happen. I am so glad this town has a car to take seniors to doctor appointments. Just have to call as soon as one gets an appointment to book it while there is still time to change the appointment to when they have an opening. Do not have to bother anyone that way. Have you ever run your washing machine with a cup of white vinegar though the whole cycle with no clothes in it? Sure cleans it out great, works in a dishwasher, too.

LLOYD  right now I would love 47°, would feel like a heatwave.

Have a great day and keep warm.

Good morning everyone

10° F here this morning and it looks to be a clear day. Taking hubby to the foot clinic  this morning then home to work about the house.

Jane, have a great day at work, short lines and smiling customers.

Gloria de, good for you enjoying the 3 parties! Nice to get out for a bit.

Shirley I was at a yard sale one and there were 3 GE irons all with the cloth cord. I told the lady that I would buy one as they were only 3.00 and she put all 3 in my van . I am still using one that doesn't have steam for my quilting. One slowly died and the other one is still in the box it came in.

Gloria, we are to get rain /snow by Friday here. I had thought of going to our Christmas potluck for quilting but if that is what is coming, I am staying home!

Joy,I have two those blenders and they are great!!! Easy to use and store. one came with a lot of different plates to grate, slice  plus a container do it in.

Larry, hope this new med has you feeling a lot better..

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hi Everyone.  It is 36 degrees here according to the weather app on my phone.  It will remain cloudy with a high of 42 degrees with a 20% chance of rain until late afternoon when the probabilities go up to a max of 60%.  The termite inspector is suppose to be here this morning to do the annual inspection and refill the traps.  A friend will also be here  to work with me for an hour.  I have contacted the heating company to come and look at our heat pump, which remained frozen all day yesterday and I still see ice on the condenser this morning.  They will be here sometime today.  Fortunately, the emergency electric heat has kept us nice and comfortable.  I do have to take the car somewhere to have the air checked in the tires again as the warning light has been on for several days.  I also need to make a quick trip to Costco to return the curtains we forgot to take back last week although that doesn't have to be done today.  I think that will be plenty for today.

Gloria, nice to see you are expecting some warmer weather later in the week.  I saw on the news last night that North Carolina and a few other places got slammed with snow.  I am also ready for some dry and sunny days here but this won't be one of them.  My wife still uses starch on some things.

Joy, when I looked at the Immersion blender link I recognized it.  We have had something similar but just not that kitchen tool.  Your color and font changed on your message because of the link and the fact there are closing html tags.  If you do a quick edit you can removed the tags with the [/] tags and then you will continue to use the original font and size tags.  Or you can simply highlight what is not as you want it while in the quick edit and put the tags back on that part of the message.  I hope this makes sense.  Computers do what they are told to do and your message was doing what the HTML tags told it to do.

Jenny, the lady I talked to at the Heating company indicated it must be low on Freon gas.  It was checked within the last year and the gas was fine.  I do hope there isn't a leak but it is what it is and I want it fixed asap.  You might want to try the stuffed peppers from Costco as we find them very satisfactory.  I hope those who went to Vail had no problem getting home yesterday.  The Atlanta Falcons also did not play well yesterday.  I did get your email with that sweet picture of the new addition to your family and the proud parents.

Jane, getting background on something like the movie does usually make it more interesting.  The best memory I have of visiting one of the Smithsonian Museums was a tour conducted by a docent in the National Portrait Gallery.  Her explanations brought the portraits to life. Did you sing along?  You are right that Don Shovein is Carol's husband.

Lindancer, certainly glad to see your posting.   You have certainly been busy partying.  So sorry to read you are dealing with more gout.

Shirley, your mother's neighbor was probably right about it being cheaper to use the taxi than to own a car.  It sounds like your cats were having an off day.

Lloyd, the news can be very depressing if we spend too much time thinking about it.  However, I like to know what is going on but sometimes thing how can it get any worse but it always seems to find a way.

Amy, so far the new increased dosage of medicine seems to be working.  I really felt good this morning when I woke up.  I hope it is a routine appointment your husband has today with the foot doctor.

Phyllis, it sounds like you still have a good weekend even with all the snow with no roof leaks and your power staying on and no trees coming down on your house. Hopefully the heat pump will be fixed today so hope the electric bill won't be too much for less than 2 days.  However, whatever it costs it is worth it to stay comfortable as my dollar bills have no warmth at all.

Good Morning Cotton Candy.

Yes, we did get "slammed", Larry.  They had predicted 1-3 inches of snow and we got 7!
After the snow we had rain and freezing rain, wind and cold temps.  Nearly everything (schools, etc.) is closed. It has not been a pleasant weekend.  But, my new roof did not leak (yay) and the power did not go out for us even though for many in the area it did, and no trees came down on the house.  Some things to be really grateful for.

Still did not get the cookies made.  I didn't want to start only to have the power go off and be left with a mess.

I hope you got your heat pump fixed, Larry. Running on emergency heat is REALLY expensive.
We turned on the gas logs for a while to warm up because the wind was blowing hard and making the house seem extra cold.

It's back to normal duties today so must be on my way.  Take care all.

Phyllis, watching TV and seeing that some places, especially NC, had up to a foot of snow in one day, I could not remember the last time we had that much snow in MI in one day.  We get about 75-80 inches of snow a season, but not all at once.  We have hardly any on the ground now.

Amy, we were not nearly as cold as you this morning - more like 27 degrees.  And that's brr enough.

Larry, I'm glad for you that the increased medicine seems to be working.  It isn't good to be feeling low on energy all of the time.

Gloria, it is nice that your town has a vehicle to take Seniors to their doctors' appointments.  I've never heard that we have anything similar, but I'm thankful I have Tom.  I try not to abuse the help.

Like you, I gave up driving voluntarily or maybe I was eased out (Tom had to drive my car after Annie totaled his), and I seldom wish I had a car to go to a store, after all, I have trouble walking far, anyway.

Jane, between you and Amy, I'm all tired out after reading about your activities.  Two workaholics, but I can tell you both enjoy what you are doing.

I got up later than usual so it is later now and it is time I get dressed to start my day.

CC, I had to look it up but think I have answers for you.  My gas logs are propane so we had to have a large (50 gallon) propane tank installed outside the house since this house is an all-electric house.  It is unvented and is manual.  Very difficult to light the pilot light at the beginning of the heating season so I would suggest a remote.  I wish we had gotten that but my son is able to get down and light it manually.  The max. BTU is 38,000, med. is 27,000 BTUs, and min. is 22,000 BTUs.  It is 26 inches wide and that pretty well takes up most of the space in the fireplace.  And it puts out a LOT of heat even when turned on low so we don't leave it on for any length of time.  If your area has power outages from time to time it is worthwhile to get one.

Hope this answers your questions.  Good luck.

Mary Ann, we had an additional inch or so this morning so the total was 8+ inches.  I think that is more than enough....for now.

I was told to introduce myself in the Soda Shoppe. I don't know if this is the right place, but let's hope that it is. I'm from Eastern-Europe. I was baptized a Christian. I like literature and art. I used to make videos on YouTube. I have administrated forums (like this one) a few years ago. It's nice to meet you. I hope you're a friendly bunch.

Lucian, this is a very friendly bunch, in fact, much like family.  We have people from Israel, England, Canada, US, Australia, Japan; some post more often than others.  Join in and let us know what you're doing, where you're from.  Other greetings will follow mine as time goes on.

For the benefit of many of us, we'd appreciate it if you would BOLD your posts and use size 4.  Some of us have older eyes than others.

I Just lost a very long post, it is somewhere out there in cyber space. will try to write more to morrow.s I do not know what happen, I went to preview and saw Half was written 4  and boldize][the other half had gone back to small/b]

Mary Ann I did remember I told you I just bought a humidifier for the bed room and a small one here by the computer.this morning I woke up with a nose bleed. I do not know if it is the dryness or the nose piece from the oxygen

Jenny I take colchicine for the gout, I also had to have blood test

Gloria De, I'm sorry about your nosebleed.  Your post reminded me that I must put water in my humidifier because I think it ran out.

While I very seldom use Preview, when I tested it, only part of my post showed but it was all blue, no small letters.

Gloria de.... I recognize that name of the gout meds as one Cas took as well as the name that Jenny's husband takes. One he took all the time & the other he took only when gout got really bad. In his case I was convinced that every time he drank the 100% grape juice or ate a lot of grapes, his gout got worse, but because grapes weren't on the list of no-nos, he refused to cut them out to prove it. Red meat, beans & some things he didn't like were okay to avoid.  ;)  He expected the meds to do their job so ate red meat anyway. Do hope you can discover what triggers your gout ... and same for Bob, those meds come with many side effects.

I went to look at & pay for the frig to be delivered tomorrow & changed my mind which model. Basically the same but the handles on one looked better than the other. Picky, huh? They are stunned I was so adamant about no ice maker, but with our icky water, I'd rather use Brita water or bottled water to make cubes & don't want an ice maker to take up space. I don't use as much ice since I've been drinking bottled water & keep a bottle going in the frig at all times. Just something I enjoy, have never been a good water drinker, this way I know how much I drink. I keep a shelf full of cold bottles & that's what everyone expects now. I will be so glad to get everything back in place & get on with the holidays.

Don't think I will do any more decorating... We will have our family party before Christmas & the days until New Year's Day will have nothing planned. Sounds good to me. If weather permits I might drive to MO to visit my brother & sister & be back before the traffic on New Year... I haven't even looked to see what day of the week it is. Good furnace in the RV, but won't take a chance on snow or ice so don't plan ahead.

I have a humidifier that works in a small area but know I must keep distilled water to run in it.... with our hard water it leaves a haze of lime or something over everything. The filter in the furnace humidifier was coated with white lime & was replaced since last year. We had the floor standing ones with the big belt of foam that ran through water when we lived west of town, but it was constantly needing the belt replaced, completely lime coated. Some times those nose bleeds are a sign of needing iron, too. Our youngest used to get them during the winter & I'd give him iron & bone meal & they would stop. Bone meal is different from regular calcium.... the osyter shell calcium doesn't absorb for me.

Guess I'd better get moving, trying to think of anything that needs to be done before they deliver the frig. I think they will need to take the folding wooden door off, have double doors & wide entry hall so easier to come in that way than through the garage, I'll wait till they get here to see.

"Day is Done"
Gone the sun"....

It's been a long and busy one and the first thing I want to do is welcome Lucian! This is one of the friendliest places I know.  If I didn't have a chance to come here and visit with my friends, I'd be lost.  I think you have a lot more "smarts" when it comes to using a computer than I do.  I just plod along!

Also, Gloria de, I'm with Shirley when about nosebleeds being caused by iron deficiency.  I'm sure that's not all that causes them but when I was little, I had a lot of nosebleeds and the Dr. told my mother after some testing, that I had an iron deficiency.  I took iron supplements for about a year and during that time, the intervals between them was greater and greater until the dr. decided I didn't need the iron any more.  And I haven't had one since.

HOORAY, the boxes are on the way to Texas and Oklahoma.  And the bags are packed and gifts wrapped to be delivered to Bridget and consequently to my sister, brother, niece and nephew and some for the two girls doing the delivering.  I'll make that little trip tomorrow and then make a stop on the way home at a store I wanted to visit.

I still have to find something for my DIL and Kiran.  She says she doesn't have a list.  I find that hard to believe.  She's going to 12 in 8 days and she doesn't have a list?

I'm yawning and yawning and yawning.  I guess I better think about hitting the hay!  I wish you all a restful night and a happy awakening!  Good Night All and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone.

Welcome Lucian, yes we are a friendly bunch here. Hope you stop back in soon.

Warmer this morning with a temp of +20° F with a chance of flurries so they say. VON today and then the day is ours. I made 8+ doz cookies yesterday  and just need to do one more square......as the one that was done is disappearing on me. :)

Jane, that sure brought memories back to me. One of the songs we also sang at the end of meetings too.

Need to put away a few things before VON comes.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Here I am again....last in last night and first in this morning.  Nothing happened between except SLEEP.  And I slept pretty well.  I'm just waiting for it to be late enough to text Bridget as to when we can meet so I can give her the packages.

I have my coffee and I'm waiting for the boinger to feed the doggies and then I'll get dressed and ready to go.  My project for today is to "find my ears" and wrap some gifts.  I've decided to give my daughter a gasoline gift card.  We'll both benefit from that.  She can use it to come visit me!  Now the only hold out is my DIL and two granddaughters...one 12 and one 25.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  Grab it and make it your own in every way.

Good Morning Everyone from the colder,
still,  rocky coast of Maine.

I spend most of my day listening to
movies and series on NetFlix, Prime, and
Acorn and Hulu  etc.   And less time
on the computer.

I do follow  MSNBC  daily to keep
up with what is going on in the
world politically,  (from my  point
of few)..

Things change so rapidly that
it gets confusing if I skip much.

My old friend Vicki and I talk
"politics",  but we are cut from the
same cloth,  so it is fun and not
frustrating.

Have a good day,  Everyone,  and don't
take any wooden nickles.

Hi Everyone. We have a beautiful, crisp and sunny morning that started at 30 degrees and is suppose to get to 50 this afternoon.  I slept in until 7:30 this morning and have been busy ever sense.  I had to empty the dishwasher, fold a big load of laundry, fix Pat's breakfast and my own but think most of the work is done for today.  We do plan on getting out today to get haircuts and then will stop at Ruby Tuesdays as they have there $5 chicken sandwich today.  As far as I know we have no other stops to make.

Yesterday was really a great day for me as felt good all day.  I did finally get the air up to par in the car tire.  The downer was that when the repair tech was here for the AC, while he was able to get it going again, he had to put in 4 units of Freon at $75 per unit and is ordering two new parts, which will be covered by warranty, but we will still have to pay the labor and for more Freon.  However, we don't really have any choices in the matter as must have good heat and then cooling in the summer.  The man was suppose to inspect our house termite traps and the house yesterday but he went to the neighbors house rather than ours.  Today I get the inspection reports and the bill for his visit.  Something wrong with this picture.  I called them and now he is scheduled to come here late Friday afternoon.

Phyllis, so far the heat is working and I was glad to get off the emergency heat although thankful it was available to us.

Mary Ann, it appears today is going to be another good day like yesterday energy wise.

Lucian, what country in Eastern Europe do you live.  I am sure we would all like to know more about you and where you live.  We are happy to have you join us and I can assure you if you start participating you will soon feel you know us all as we are like a cyber family as Mary Ann said.

Lindancer, the size of what you saw after you hit the preview and came back was because it had put in the closing tags for your message.  You can always reset the tags at that point by highlighting what is too small and then setting the tags or backing out the ending tags you see where the change occurred by going back into the Preview setting. Sorry to read you experienced another nose bleed as those are so annoying.

Shirley, did they have a refrigerator without an ice maker?  I didn't like the ice trays as seemed like I would always splash some of out on the floor.  I sure hope you get the refrigerator today.  Pat doesn't plan to do very much to decorate for Christmas this year.

June, good to see you were back up on the Internet last night.

Jane, glad to read you were able to mail off your boxes to Texas as sure that is a relief for you.  A gasoline gift card is a great idea and I bet your daughter will appreciate it.

Amy, are you and your husband the reason for your cookie squares disappearing?  :)  We gave our son a half dozen of the cookies we got at Costco the other day and he ate three of them and put the other three in a sealed plastic bag.  When he got home from work he found his dog, who he thought was blind and smell wasn't working well had found them, ripped open the package and ate all three of them.  He was not a happy camper.

Lloyd, I hope you have a great day also.  I know I plan to do so.

Sandy, that is a lot of TV watching.

Larry, my sense of humor is a bit warped occasionally and I think it's funny that Scott's dog found the cookies he had saved.  I'm fortunate that Kendrick doesn't seem to want people food, no matter what kind.

Larry, I have a refrigerator without an ice maker.  I did not notice it when I bought it and I wish I had one - not to make ice cubes, but to store them.  Tom has said he'd put an ice maker in the refrigerator, but I'd rather use ice cubes.  I have plenty of trays.  I really have buyer's remorse because now I wish I had had the other refrigerator repaired (it needed a new motor) as it was more deluxe and it did have an ice maker where I could store cube trays.

Welcome, Lucian.   I live in Kansas, USA. The wind is blowing even more than usual, cold but could be worse. This place is like having coffee (or tea) with neighbors, any time you have a few minutes to sit. Everyone understands each others aches & pains and cheers when one of us has a good day. We have lost some very good friends over the years, that goes with age, and happy to welcome a new voice. We probably tell this group of friends more than we tell our own families or close friends in daily life. We are what we are, individuals that have a common bond, age.

Thanks for the birthday greeting for Don.  He wanted to have a Prime Rib dinner and that is all.  We are going to be with the children for two weeks beginning Saturday and they have scads of things planned.

Jenny:  It sounds like you made a quick trip to California - I hope Bob is getting good care for his gout.

Tisi:  Robo calls are driving me insane.  They use the beginning of our phone number so I cannot tell if it is a neighbor or not.  Dreadful people!  One actually cursed me when I said "take me off your list".

Radioman Don:  How is the Santa party working for you?  Is it over?  I hope they give you hugs.

Keeping all of you in my thoughts - stay warm, be careful and don't walk on ice!

Mercy, I am not safe to let out of the house!! After VON was here we nipped into town for a few things. On the way home I wanted to get the map up on the screen  in the van...when I went to push map 911 showed up and inadvertently I push it! One ring and I disconnected it.....thinking that would be it. The phone rang in the van and it was a number I didn't recognize so I didn't answer. We got home and my cell rang again... private number this time........then the other number rang???? Sitting down for lunch a knock came to the door.....it was an officer OPP asking if all was well....... :-[  I explained to him what had happened and I apologized. He said not to worry it happens all the time!! Our neighbour called over to make sure we were ok as they saw the OPP van in our yard. We have had enough excitement for one day  and tomorrow we will take a plate of goodies to the OPP station for them.

Good Afternoon,

Another sunny day in central Oklahoma.  I'm "helping" the housekeeper by Staying Out Of The Way.

Welcome, Lucian.  Please tell us more about yourself and the area you live in.  We all enjoy "traveling" worldwide with our Soda Shoppe friends.

Last time I posted I had just baked 102 molasses cookies.  Yesterday,  I frosted about half of them with canned vanilla frosting to which I had added some peppermint flavoring.
Also made about half the candy balls and dipped them in chocolate.

Today,  I began distributing both and will continue to do so through next weekend - saving some, of course, for family.

Housekeeper is here and I'm helping by Staying Out Of The Way.  ;)

Still need to write longish personal letters for three Christmas cards to special friends who live far away.
I don't hand-write letters any more and hadn't been able to figure out settings to print letters on my "nice" stationery.  Just happened to do it right the other day - and have put a post-it note on the stationery box so I won't forget.

My sense of humor is much like Mary Ann's - which is one reason I rarely make personal replies.  Am afraid my smiling tone of voice meant to tease a bit won't come through in the printed word and I'll be misinterpreted.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere and Enjoyable Day.  Stay warm!

Callie, facial expression and tone of voice are everything, especially when trying to make a joke.  And we don't get that with the computer, do we?

You ladies put me to shame with all of your baking.  But when you get to your 90s will you be baking up the storms you do now?  I wish I lived beside one of you to get a few goodies.  I will say that our condo board gives homemade cookies to us "elderly" people and I know Dot will bake a few cookies too.  Tom is not into baking.  Of course, neither of us needs the calories that come along with cookies.

Mary Ann (and anyone else who's interested) I've heard that if you break whatever it is you're eating before tasting it, all the calories leak out.  Now I must warn you that cutting does not do have the same effect.  A knife or a fork will only seal in the calories.  You MUST break it!

I made contact with Bethany and transferred the goodies for the southern part of my family to Bridget's car.  So they are on their way.  The girls were going to leave around 5 p.m. this afternoon.  If they got started on time, they are probably a little more than half way home.

I've cleaned off my dining room table and I have the Christmas table cloth on and some of the things that usually adorn it.  I got really tired and some zzzzzs grabbed hold of me and I conked out for about an hour.  That was good!  But now I have to get back in gear.  And the doggies are beginning to tell me that it's time to have supper.  So I guess I better go see to their needs.  I had lunch so late today that I'm not hungry yet.  But I sure an thirsty

LARRY, I must have a warped sense of humor too because I laughed at the dog finding Scott's cookies.  It reminded me that one year when Frankie was little, they went home from here on Christmas and since it was pretty late and Frankie was about 3 and Daniel would have been 13, they went about seeing that the kids were settled and then went to bed themselves.  The next morning, they discovered that their dog got into the goody bag they took home from here and had eaten almost everything.  They expected him to get sick on the chocolate but he didn't.  In fact, he was looking for more!

The doggies are getting louder so I'll try to get back later.

Lucian, I'd like to hear a little about where you are from, too.  I live in Central Pennsylvnia about a hundred miles from anywhere.  It's farm country and a small college town.  Lots to do an good things to eat.

Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyfriend!

Jane, I'll try to remember to break any food before I taste it, especially meat and potatoes and I'll have no calories.  Thanks for the info.

I didn't think of this earlier but you reminded me of when I made a chiffon cake as my grandmother (I had only one, Dad's mother) was coming to live with us.  I put the cake on a tall chest and we went to the bus station to pick up Grandma and a friend who accompanied her.  My aunt (Mother's sister) was visiting and had stayed home.  We had a Heinz variety dog, named Fuzzy, because she was.  When we got home, we discovered the dog had eaten part of the cake.  My aunt was horrified that we didn't punish the dog - for something that had happened some time before we got home.  I cut out the part where the dog had eaten and gave that to her and we ate the rest.  I did put whatever might have been left in the refrigerator so Fuzz could not get at it again.  I'm glad my cat is not interested in people food.

Another funny story about dogs eating things....my daughter made cookies for her daughter to take to elementary school for some doing.  Since her husband and kids got home before she did in the afternoon, she put notes on two trays..."These are for the school" and "you can eat these".  The "you can eat these" tray was empty but the ones for school had not been touched.  Do you think dog can read?

Okay, I've got one about the neighbor's dog that my husband swears was smiling when he went out to get the hamburgers off the grill. He had put them to the side, away from the coals to come get a plate to bring them in. Mind you, my husband almost never grilled or did any cooking, so he was really proud of doing this job.... but came back in with the empty plate, wish you could have seen his face. You'd have thought someone had shot his best friend. I'm afraid I probably laughed out loud even though he was ready to go through the ceiling. A memory I'll never forget.

Refrigerator in, got cold almost immediately. The guy delivering said I could put food right in but I thought he was joking. I ran to the Dollar Tree & bought 4 ice cube trays, filled & put them in the freezer so I will have cubes when anyone wants. I have a few things I saved in the frig downstairs & also in the RV, but too tired to go fetch tonight. I got a nap in early so ended up with 4 hours plus, not enough for the old lady. Of that only 8 min of deep sleep.

Mary Ann, be glad your cat isn't interested in people food. I did go get mine a chicken this afternoon, they acted pleased but ate & wanted outside. It was a little warmer than has been lately & they know how to sit in the sun away from the wind. They seem to need sunshine.

Carol, glad Don had a good birthday, agree with him that prime rib is the best! I knew the name was familiar but drew a blank when I couldn't find it listed in members... besides, I spelled it wrong when looking. With all the frig problems I totally forgot to call Cox about working out the system to cut out the robo calls!  Had 2 today that probably came from the same place, I didn't pick up but was a jumble of letters & numbers instead of a name. I look for a chance to catch a human ear to pull that little plug on the screecher, no satisfaction if a human doesn't hear it, just blows my ear drums. I will call Cox tomorrow to see if that really works to stop those calls.

Amy, sorry to laugh at your calling for help.... but that is just too funny. Like you, I feel better if I get a chance to repay a kindness.  I baked brownies & took to the guys that winterized my RV, even though I paid them.

All this talk about sweets & my mouth is watering for something.... not sure what I have in the kitchen tonight.

Jane and Shirley, I laughed at both of your stories about dogs eating people food.  Jane, I don't think your dogs can read, but I'll bet your family can.

Shirley, I'm glad your new refrigerator arrived and is already cold.  It does not take much time any more to get them cool.

Amy, I had to laugh at your map experience.  What a day!

So now Jane has her Christmas tablecloth on the table.  That must mean you are finished with cooking - at least for a while.

I'll shut this down at least until the next time I read something that I feel I should answer or respond to.

More dog and people food stories.....

Back in the 70s, one night we had T-bone steaks for supper.  We filled up our plates and Claude realized I hadn't put A-1 sauce on the table.  He got up to go to the cupboard and Cathie's dog Sunny grabbed his steak and out the door she went :).

When I was a kid, every other Sunday dinner, Mom would fix a rump roast.  One Sunday we finished eating and Mom put the roast up on the counter to cool before she put it in the frig.  Here came the dog and out the door went the dog, the roast and our supper for the rest of the week:).

Our dogs now sit right by the table every night and I swear they begrudge every bite we put in our mouths. They have never reached up on the table or the counters though, not like their predecessors did!

Good morning everyone.

We had some snow overnight, not a lot but enough to deal with after my tea.

We also had a laugh but we do know now that if we needed help it would be in in less than 1/2 hour.........quicker if I had of answered the calls I was getting.

Wonder what mischief I will get into today lol.

I do need to wrap a few gifts and that should be it for Christmas. Tomorrow we will be looking after the neighbours house, dog, cat and making sure his Mom is ok.while they head to Quebec for a funeral. I sure hope the weather is good for them .

Jenny, safe travels and give Jonah a hugs or many from us please.

Mary, I think we all can relate to the dog taking off with the goodies. Not funny at the time but funny to look back on.

Shirley, hope you got some quality sleep last night. You will be running on fumes if you don't get some.

Mary Ann, when I take goodies to someone I tell them they are calorie free, as I drove fast and left them behind.

Larry, hope you got it all straightened out and now have heat

Gloria, are you ok or did I just miss your post??

Better get a move on.....work won't do itself. Darn it!

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Amy.  Seems that you are the first one here this morning.

I did not get in here at all yesterday. Was not feeling so good in the morning, and then the day just flew by.  Feel better this morning.

Jenny, sounds like you had a long day yesterday. But, I know you are so anxious to see little Jonah.  I wasn't sure just when you were leaving.  Will you stay away over Christmas, or is this just a short trip. I know you did mention that you would stop to see your Dad.  Have a safe rest of your trip.

Amy, glad you didn't have to deal with much snow this morning.  We have a pretty sunny day in store, but very chilly.  I have pushed the thermostat up to take the chilly off while I am on the computer. I have an air duct right over my head and that warm air sure feels good.

I still have to get my wreath on the door and set up my ceramic tree.  Just really not into doing that much decorating anymore.  I will get the wreath and tree out today, for sure.  I don't feel as lazy as I had been feeling.  Although I did not sleep well again last night.  I sleep for a couple hours and then I am wide awake.

I will say Good Morning to all the friends who will come here later. Hope everyone will have a nice day.

Joy

Good morning everyone. I have the weather channel on this PC and just looked at it.  They show the warmest and coldest temperatures and snow/rainfall for this day. Not much snow only 61/2 inches in 1992 the temperature low was -2° in 1998. This morning's 27° is balmy compared to that.

LARRY  looks like Scott will have to start putting his goodies where his dog cannot reach. One time I had a bag of the small Reese's in my handbag and my son and DIL came upstairs t o visit along with their dog. Well the dog went into the bedroom like she always did and slept there. When they left and I went in there I saw t he papers from the Reese's on the floor. She had eaten all of them. I called downstairs to tell them what she did and to watch her but she never got sick.

SHIRLEY  you described us perfectly in your welcome to Lucian.

AMY  glad that officer was understanding about you hitting the wrong number.

CALLIE  like you I tease all the time but have to be careful because some folks are too serious and take teasing the wrong way. My CNA is as bad as me so we get along great. Hope she stays here. Only a few in this building have a sense of humor.

JANE  I better use a knife and fork if that keeps the calories in, I really need to add at least.  20 pounds.

SHIRLEY  you reminded me of one  time we were having lobsters outside at the picnic table when we got phone call from Texas where they moved to. We all had to talk to them. When went out there was our dog licking butter off her face. She ate MY lobster and had butter with it.  She left the empty shell.

One Christmas I was talking on Skype with my daughter and her family when their dog a Chihuahua  ran into the living room from the kitchen with a big chunk of ham in his mouth loo‌king so proud of what he did. We were all shocked and then started laughing. He had jumped up on a chair and then on the table. Not funny because she had to throw the ham away, she would not give him a little piece of it.

MARY Tx  looks like we all have stories about our dogs stealing our food.

JENNY  you getting excited to be getting closer to your Jonah? Don't forget to give him a gentle hug from all of us. Safe driving.

AMY  I did post yesterday and today I have written a book.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I don't have much time this morning.  Last night my email started acting crazy and after trying to fix it for about a half hour twice and considering the possibility of putting the computer in the car and taking a drive to the river bank to toss it in, I just went to bed.  This morning I spent an hour on the phone with Windstream trying to get it back.  A nice young man named Conner (who grew up in the US and spoke very good English as his first language) helped over some humps and we finally go it working.  He had a lot of patience with this old lady and her questions.  But now I have to go get ready for work.

I hope everyone's day yesterday ended better than mine and I hope today began better.  The good thing is, I slept soundly all night and woke to the alarm this morning.  It's been a long time since I've done that!

Enjoy your day!  Keep your snow!  We had a few flakes last night.  Stay warm and cozy.  I'll try to check in later.

AMY, funny about the COPS coming after you!

Hi Everyone.  We are in for another beautiful day with it getting up into the 50's.  I have a friend coming by at 10 am this morning to spend an hour with me and then I will take Pat over to a friends home where the ladies in the craft group will be enjoying a Christmas luncheon.  She doesn't even have to make something to take, which makes it nice.  I am go happy that she is feeling up to attending.

Our heat pump froze up again and I wasn't surprised since the needed parts hadn't been replaced.  I spoke with the repairman this morning and he said the parts are due in today and he will be here tomorrow to fix it.  So we will stay on Emergency Heat for another day or so. It keeps us nice and warm.

This evening she in planning on fixing ribs, baked beans and potato salad and also a cherry pie for our dinner as Scott will be over.  She will be pretty well done in when all of that is done.  I will help her as much as I can.  We did get haircuts yesterday after we had our main meal at Ruby Tuesday's. I downloaded the audio book of War and Peace by Leo Toystoy.  I have never read it and may not be able to get it finished as it is about 51 hours of recording.  At least someone will be pronouncing all of those Russian names.

Mary Ann, apparently the cookies didn't make Scott's dog sick although it did impact his digestive system.  I remember several years ago we bought a Maytag refrigerator thinking it was a good brand.  However, they had let the company slip in quality and we had a lot of problems with it and replaced it in just a few years.  The one we have now has given us good service.

Carol, the robo calls seem to have lessened here since the last of the elections have ended.  I never answer them as have identified in my phone contacts my friends or people likely to call me such as businesses I have done business with.  I still have my Atlanta prefix so the robocalls came over that prefix without a name attached and I never answered them.

Amy, at least you know that the 911 service works well in your area.  Avoid that mischief today!  :) I bought Christmas paper at Costco when I went back there a couple of days ago so that I wouldn't have to get out and make another trip when I started wrapping the few things we have to wrap.  What we had on hand was down to bits and pieces but the new wrap should last several years as they are big rolls.  As you can see we still have heating problems but so thankful for the emergency electric heat and our house is very comfortable.

Gloria, I am sure Scott will be more careful with his food in the future.  Dogs do like candy even though it isn't good for them.  Wish I could share a few pounds with you that I could afford to lose.

Callie, I help our housekeeper the same way you do by staying out of her way.  She knows that I will vacate my office if it is time to clean in here although I am usually laying down by the time she get to this room.  I bet those cookies are good and I would love the peppermint flavoring in the frosting.  I hope that none of us would take offense at the way things may be stated here recognizing what you say that it is hard to interpret words without seeing facial expressions.  If I am teasing, which I like to do on occasion, I usually end it with a little smiley to emphasis I am not serious.

Jane, I am so glad that breaking whatever I am eating lets the calories leak out.  I must do more of that but now I see that cutting it with a knife or fork doesn't work.  :)  I think dogs must really like chocolate.  However, only one of the cookies he ate had some chocolate chips in them.  I am sure the dogs just think the food is for them rather than being ornery.  Funny story about the dog leaving the cookies for the school.  Who knows?

Shirley, no wonder you husband was irate with losing his burgers on the grill.  Dogs will be dogs.  Did he ever try to grill again?  Glad you got your new refrigerator.

Mary, Cathie's dog had good taste in meat and guess he didn't need the A-1 sauce.  Back when we were kids losing a big roast would be a serious thing.  I just helped Pat wrap up a couple packages from a roast she bought at Costco and she said it had cost $30.  Obviously we don't have that type of roast very often.

Jenny, glad your first day on the road went well.  I look forward to your report on your first time holding Jonah.  It sounds like you experience no problems getting over the mountains.

Lloyd, I hope your Sam's visit goes well today.

I had to laugh at the dogs-eating-food stories.  Dogs will be dogs!

I have caught the cat on the table and/or kitchen counter, but we don't leave food out so he finds nothing to eat.  When he sees me, he gets to the floor pronto!

I have heard chocolate is not good for dogs, but I have an idea that one time would do no harm, it would be as a steady diet.

We have a partly sunny day and a temp of 32 that possibly will go to 35 degrees.  No snow is predicted for today, but tomorrow???

Jenny, safe travels and I know you're anxious to see Jonah.

This is the first year we will not have our family Christmas with everyone present.  We decided the individual families should celebrate as they wish and probably with the spouses' families.  So we will go to Holland on Christmas Day to be with Tom's son and family.  It should be fun to see the twins' reactions to everything.  I don't remember being their age (nearly two) but my first Christmas memories were of coming down the stairs on Christmas morning and seeing the tree.  It wasn't until several years later that our tree went up a week earlier.  By then, it was a big deal for Norm and me, especially for Norm, that we got to help pick out the tree and it was always a balsam - Dad's choice.

Now, I don't even get out my artificial tree and I've got ornaments to put on one, but there just isn't room for a tree - and a cat!!!

Larry, your dinner for tonight sounds delicious.  I'd be exhausted too from all the fixings.

Mary Ann

We arrived safely at Jonah's Home❣️

Holding this beautiful little bundle of joy in my arms is so  wonderful.  He is the best baby. Never fusses much at all.  He just look all around and seems to be taking everything in!  He is doing great at nursing and his mama and daddy are so attentive to him.  It is quite a joy to see.  I told him that he has many people all over that are interested in him and how he is doing....some day he will understand better❣️

We are about to call it a night...it has been a long and very exciting day.

More tomorrow....pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone, cloudy start and cold. There is snow flurries in the forecast for later today. I don't trust the flurries they predict, at times those flurries turned into about 8 inches of it.

JANE  glad you got a tech that talked you into getting your PC getting your email working.

LLOYD  I do not have much storage places here so have to put things back where I got them from. Wish some of the CNAs I get would put things back where they got them. Not nice having to look for something they do not put back.

LARRY  wish I could take the few pounds others want to get rid of. Last time I weighed this little I was a teen.

GLORIA de  the doctors I go to know I do not like appointments in the winter anymore so now I don't have any between November and late March, works great for me.

JENNY  I know just how you feel. I was so anxious to see my now 3 year old great grandson and the new grandfather knows me so a few days after they were home from the hospital he called and asked if I would like to go for ice cream and of course that is always a treat and instead we went to my grandson's home and I got to hold the baby, wonderful. No many how many are born it is always a thrill to hold the new one.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone. Today we are expecting just clouds but a high into the low 60's.  This morning I will pick up my friend and we will go downtown to coffee.  After I return him home I will go over to Walmart to pick up a couple of prescriptions and then get the online grocery order.  We expect the heat pump tech here sometime today.  Beyond that nothing else is on the schedule.  Pat did enjoy her Christmas luncheon yesterday and the dinner she prepared last evening was delicious. Scott really enjoyed it.  Our great grandchildren and their father sent us the largest Christmas card I have ever seen.  They had all signed it.

Mary Ann, when we had our cat he would occasionally get on the table but knew he shouldn't be there and got down when we spoke to him.  Scott said his dog was OK after the coffee but cleaning up after him was not fun.  You know Kendrick would think the ornaments were just there for his entertainment.  Pat fixed a couple of things in the morning and I helped her quite a bit with the meal.

Lloyd, getting out of the membership stores for less than $100 seems to be hard to do.  You did well to held it to the $150 range.

Lindancer, sorry to had to experience that shot again but glad they have something to help you.  Do you use a walker when you leave your home? I hope you got a good nights sleep and feel more rested this morning.

Jenny, Glad you are safely at your first destination.  I looked at the two pictures you sent of proud grandpa and grandma holding Jonah.  He looked like he could care less.  He sure looks like a very healthy baby.

Amy, I hope you don't overdo today.  Glad you could sleep in as I expect you needed the rest.

Gloria, I hope those flurries just stay that way.

I just heard from the heat pump tech and he is on his way to put in the new parts so hopefully in an hour or so we will have our heating back off the emergency setting.

Larry yes but Nancy is a pinny puncher. that is not all bad either.
It is 44º and cloudy here calling for high of 45º. Not raining at present time but has some light rain and looks like it could any time at the drop of the hat, that is alright with me as long as it stays above freezing. Have a great day.

Larry, I have a small artificial tree and Tom can't find the base for it so we don't have a tree now.  But when I put it out a few years ago, I found Kendrick under the tree but I know if I had a big tree, real or artificial, I'd find him IN the tree.  He is nosy and investigates everything that looks different to him.

Gloria D, I'm sorry you had to have THE shot and I hope it lasts into the new year.

Jenny, how nice that you finally got to hold Jonah and he's all that you expected.

Amy, I like those days when I sleep in - whether accidental or on purpose.  Of course I run out of time around noon but I keep going anyway until I'm finished computing!

Gloria Z, I'd gladly give you my extra pounds.  I try to eat two good meals a day and in a couple of years I have lost 10-15 pounds.  I still have a few to go to get to where I want to be.  I'll never get down to the 115 pounds I was many years ago and which would be ideal for my height.

Good morning everyone...

Foggy here this morning and the weather guessers are calling for snow and or rain. I sure hope it is snow!! Need to take hubby for a hait cut this morning, he mentioned about getting on ,will see if he still wants to go.

We have an extra dog visiting us, the neighbours have gone to a funeral and we are looking after their dog and cat. Callie, the calico is a lovely cat and I brought the dog over here yesterday. He fits in well, knows where the treats are and both dogs get along great. We have watched hi grow from a pup and tease his owner that they are looking after "our" dog.

I hope Jane gets her computer fixed soon, and June I hope yours behaves.

Better go feed Callie.

Raining again but, thank goodness, it is not snow.  Yesterday was a busy day and I was so tired last night. I got Christmas cards and gifts finished and sent off yesterday.  I did the weekly shopping at the grocery store including some things for Christmas dinner and had my hair cut late in the afternoon.  We had talked of going out someplace to eat dinner but I was too tired.  However, I slept good so am doing just fine this morning.  Maybe today I can at least get the door wreath put up.  That and the little Christmas tree are about all the decorating I think I want to do this year.  But, like the Whos down in Whoville in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", even without decorations Christmas will come just the same.

Hope Jane and June can make their computers behave.

Take it easy, Everyone.  I'm going to.

I had to laugh reading Amy's and Phyllis's posts.  Amy hopes it snows instead of raining and Phyllis hopes it doesn't snow.  We haven't had much snow here so far.  When I was working, I used to say if I could get through November and December, I could take what January and February gave us.  Now it doesn't matter because I can stay inside and not worry about the weather.

I hear the Recycle truck is here and this afternoon the Trash truck will be here.

Tom has a teaching job today which doesn't pay a lot, but it does put a little money in his bank account to allow him to pay bills.  He doesn't have a regular assignment but looks at the list in the morning and signs up for ones he prefers.

Good morning.  It is a very foggy morning here right now.  Lots of schools are going in late.  However, it is supposed to warm up over the week end.   But, tomorrow is supposed to be a very rainy day.  I will just have to dodge the raindrops when I go shopping.

I didn't make it back here yesterday.   Did some chores and then played cards last night.  I did sleep pretty good last night.  I decided to have a small glass of wine to see if that might help me sleep, and I guess it worked.

It sure is strange not to see Jane in here first thing. I sure hope that she will get back to us real soon.  YOU are really missed, Jane !   Amy did make her early morning visit, tho.

Hope June's computer will still be cooperative for her.

Always nice to see everyone in the morning.  I need to get myself moving a little bit.  Nothing special is going on today.  But, I am sure I will be able to find something to do.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  We are in for a very rainy day today with the chances either 100% or 90% for most of the day.  It will be a good day to stay in.  The housekeeper is here this morning so we will be enjoying a nice clean house again in a few hours.  Yesterday the heat pump repairmen came and spent a couple of hours as it was a big job to install the new parts.  A very large part went into the unit in  the attic and a smaller control board in the outside unit.  The good news was that the Freon that had been put in a few days earlier was still there and we didn't have to buy anymore of it.  Hopefully we are all set for the rest of the winter and next year as well.  I did not go to coffee yesterday morning to the great disappointment of my friend but wasn't going to leave while the workmen were here.  After they left I headed to Walmart to pick up my medicine only to discover it was too soon to fill either prescription but I picked up the online grocery order.  I forgot to stop at the customer service area to pick up something I had ordered for Pat's Christmas that I had shipped to the store to save the shipping charges.  The other item I had purchased was from Amazon and it was delivered yesterday.

My main plan for today is to wrap up the Christmas packages for Pat's sister and get the box ready to mail as we need to get it to the Post Office for mailing.  As far as I know our Christmas shopping is finished.  I will write my Christmas email letter next week.  We did try for our dinner last evening the French Onion soup I had gotten frozen at Costco and it was pretty good.  We topped it off with a piece of the cherry pie with a little vanilla ice cream on it.

Mary Ann, the Christmas Tree is invading Kendrick's territory so he has to check out any new thing.  It sounds like Tom can teach about any weekday he wants.

Lindancer, I have found that it is much easier to put Pat's rollator in the back seat (on the seat) as can sort of tip it over and then slide it up most of the way with not too much lifting and it is very easy to slide out.  I won't fit behind the seat staying upright.

June, good to see you have gotten back online.

Amy, surprised you prefer the snow to the rain.

Lloyd, I hope you have a good visit with your cousin today.

Phyllis, Christmas really isn't about the decorations as nice as they look.  Like you I think our decorations will consist of the outside wreath that is up and Pat's artificial poinsettias before the fireplace.

Joy, we are just getting gentle rain so far although our housekeeper told us that it rained heavily during the night.  Neither Pat nor I were aware of it probably due to the noise my oxygen concentrator makes.  For the last few months I have been drinking 4 ounces of red wine every evening when I take my medicine or with my supper.  Maybe that is why I am sleeping well now as haven't had a night I couldn't sleep since starting to do that.

Good morning everyone,  25° to start the day an might get into the 40's--a heat  wave after the cold we have been having.

LARRY the flurries went along the coast, not one flake here.

LLOYD  you never upset me, I can do that by myself when I cannot do things I used to do.

MARY ANN for many years after my daughter was born I went up to 135 pounds then when I hit about  59 I went up to 150. After I had my right shoulder replaced I slowly started losing but 85 pounds makes me look like a walking skeleton or a bag of bones, take your pick. :)  Then again not being very active anymore I have no appetite.

GLORIA DE  not a flake of snow or drop of rain. Like you I don't ask any of my friends here to take me any place because of the rollator. I depend on the town car for medical appointments and the 2 gals that drive are young and healthy. Hate asking my son but he keeps asking if I want or need to go somewhere. Do not want him to get tired of me asking.

AMY  hope it stayed when you went out today.

I started this 4 hours ago, too many interruptions and now my CNA is here.

Gloria Z, you might be surprised if you ask your son to take you some place, especially if he has the time.  I tell Tom sometimes that I hate to inconvenience him and he tells me it is a privilege.  I'm good to him too - when we go out to eat once a week, I give him $20 to take care of both of us.  Tom does not have a regular job or paycheck and I do not mind doing it that way.  He's always been closer to our family than his mother's family.

We're having a heat wave too with a temp of 38 now, to go to 40 degrees.  The sun is not shining but it may come out later.  We had fog this morning but that has left.

We had rain then snow today. Hubby did get his haircut and then home to work about the house. We did remove the snow here and I did the neighbours driveway also. Finally got the 3 doz butter tarts done too!

Larry, I would rather have the snow as the rain freezes and makes too much ice....hence...spin around like a button on an outhouse door. At least with the rain first then snow on top it is easier to walk.

Joy, hope you won at cards!!

Mary Ann, we did get a mixture of both and hope that is it for a few days.

Hope Jane is getting her computer fixed!!

I can not believe it is already Friday!  We are enjoying being here with Jonah so much. He sure is a delightful little guy.

Today I went to a local grocery store here called Albertsons.  It is a chain store associated with Von's here on the WestCoast, or Safeway in Denver.  We found out they have a few doses of the new shingles shot.  We have not been able to find any pharmacies in Denver that have any, and have been told it would be spring of 2019 before they will.  I had to pay a out of network fee for it, but at least I have the first one!  Bob did not get his as he has not met his deductible yet, so he will wait for spring to get his.  We do not think he even needs one as he never had chicken pox as a child.  He did get the last shingles shot.  I did too, but I, of course DID get the shingles🤣

I am sorry Jane and June are having computer issues.  Hope they are back up and running again soon.

It is my time to hold Jonah......Bye!
