Judy, I am apparently the source of the misinformation and appreciate your yours and John's email. leaving this posting here.  I will pass your message on to Norm' Bait and Tackle and the Soda Shoppe where I had posted this morning.  I apparently mis interpreted the information I had last night.  Please keep us updated and I will kept the other two discussions updated.  So sorry for my error.

After two years of pain and not one Dr. would make a decision, One Dr. finally did and she had surgery yesterday morning.   Lots of scar tissue, etc. from previous surgeries and child birth, they got rid of all that she is recovering upstairs in her apt.  Am so glad someone finally did something to help her.  Doctors here in WA State are weird..  Long story and just not up to getting into details about it.  Glad I had mine in CA.

...just read the message from Judy in Christian Photographers...does this mean there is still hope?

Hi Everyone.  Nice clear day here and to get up to 90 degrees this afternoon.  Just checking in this morning as have a doctor's appointment this about an hour.  For the first time in my adult life I had to ask my wife to help me get dressed this morning after working on it for well over an hour.  I seem to be getting weaker by the day.

Jackie, we are going to have to depend on Judy to keep us up dated.  I did get a message that as of 7:30 last evening she was still alive and that is all I know.

Mary Ann

Larry, I hope things go well with your doctor's appointment.  I'm sorry you had to ask Pat for help in getting dressed.

It is good to read that Pat Halbach is still with us - or is it?  I mean if she lingers but can do nothing, is that good?

At 10:23 it is 66 degrees here.  I am sure we won't hit the 90 degrees of North Augusta, but we should get warmer and I'm all for it.

Good Thursday morning.  I don't know where the time goes. Here it is almost the end of another week.  Time really flies by.

Larry, sorry that you are not  doing well this morning.  Hopefully, the doctor will be able to give you something to give you a little bit more energy.  My thoughts are with you today.

Maybe we will hear some more news about Pat Halbach.  I agree with Mary Ann.  That type of a situation is just so hard on the family and the patient, if they are aware of their surroundings.  But, we have no control over things like that.  Very sad, as she was always so active. Just seems like too many of our special friends here are not doing very well. The group seems to be dwindling down quickly.

It is a pretty sunny morning, and supposed to be up in the 80's for a few days. I was beginning to wonder if spring or even summer would ever arrive.

I have a baby shower to go to on Saturday.  It is at noon, so I am assuming it will be  a shower luncheon.  This is for the daughter of one of my favorite nieces.  It is a very exciting time for them.  My niece just can't wait to be a grandmother.  Hard to believe because she still looks like a teen-ager herself.  A very special family.

I hope everyone will have a good Thursday.

Larry - I'm hoping your doctor today will have some good and positive news for you.  A ninety degree day, is unusual this early in the season, isn't it?  I remember now that your Spring weather is much warmer than ours here in California. I had to turn on the heat this morning, to bring the temperature up to 70 degrees inside the house. A cool rainy spell here.

Mary Ann - We had a nice dinner last night at Kirk's Burgers.  I had the avocado/cheese/bacon burger, and AJ had the two-cheese burger. I always give him my bacon, because it's so difficult for me to chew.  Today I'll be going to Safeway for groceries, and that will likely be my outing for the day . . . unless something interesting comes up, which I doubt! ::)

Hi Joy - We were posting at the same g=time, so I just came back to say "Good Morning" to you.

Robin was here yesterday afternoon to help me with my computer room mess and we made more progress.  She brought stuff for me to sort faster than I could sort.  I had a lot of genealogy magazines that were quite old - 10 years plus - so I gave her some of the older ones to take to a thrift shop she works at occasionally.  While some methods would be updated, most of the information holds true today.

Tom and I had been out to lunch yesterday so I was surprised when he suggested I go out to eat after our work.  The three of us went to a Mexican place.  I have not been fond of Mexican food but last week when I went I had a burrito minus the beans but with too much rice.  This time I had chicken tostados, three of them along with a salad.  I ate two of the tostados and brought the other one and salad home.  I had brought half of my lunch home yesterday so that is what I had for lunch today.  If Tom is not home for supper, I'll have the other tostado and salad.

Kendrick and I spent quite a while on the deck around noon.  He discovered a bug and kept pawing it but did not eat it nor did he step on it.  Finally the bug hopped to the edge of the deck beyond the railing, then went over the edge.

My computer had an update overnight and did something to the left side of this folder.  Where I used to go to "view other folders" (or similar), that column is gone completely and when I finish my post I don't know what to do.  I can click on "next post" but I don't know what the next post is and I don't necessarily want to go there.  If that is their idea of an update, I feel it is a downdate.  I'll have to go to our Computer Q&A to see if anyone responds.

We haven't had rain yet today but it is quite overcast.  We have been as high as 72 degrees but I see it is now 66 degrees.

Good morning from the Interior where the lows are in the mid-sixties and the highs in the mid-seventies for the latter portions of the week. I have been so depressed and weary due to my osteoporosis arthritis that it is difficult sitting in my chair for long.  I have read all the postings and am thinking of all and hope everyone can seek some peace and release of pain. Farrah has taken the position of an editor by walking on and off my keyboard and at times simply laying down on the job, so my Grammarly app has a real workout after her "editing."

Thanks Patricia for sharing that.  I have often wondered how they alert people who are in the middle of the bridge when they need to put it up.  I have saved it, as I want to watch the one following it, about if lightning hits the bridge.  One of the things on my to-do list is to visit that area in person. But, I honestly don't think that will ever happen.  My family are not into road trips and that is one place I would love to go to, I am sorry that I didn't know anything about it when my husband and I were traveling in our RV. I am sure that would have been one place on our list.

I stopped by here to see if there was any news about Pat. I have been thinking about her a lot today.

Patricia, I am so sorry your osteoporosis has you so depressed.  I've been told I have it because I don't stand up really straight and my back does ache soon after I stand up.

Thanks for the link to the Duluth bridge operation.  Tom sent it to me at one time and I enjoyed it.  Joy, I don't recall seeing anything about what they do when/if lightning would hit the bridge and I'm going to watch it.

I just spent considerable time buying a new phone - an Alcatel - for $20 to replace my Nokia.  The Nokia is on a network that will not be used by TracFone after this year so it was necessary to get another phone.  This one is a step up from my Nokia, is a flip phone, has a camera.  I may use this more than I have the Nokia simply because of the camera but we shall see.  I need a phone to call Tom to pick me up from the few appointments where he does not accompany me.  it will fit in a pocket or purse.

It is kind of grey out, but no rain.

I'm exhausted from my session in buying the phone.  I stuck with the agent, but they upset me by horning in on my looking at the website asking if they can help and as long as they are there, I cannot move the website from Page 1 to Page 2.  But the lady had a lot of patience when I would lose contact and I am now finished.

I may take a nap!  Or I may go sit out on the deck with Kendrick.

This is my third time at trying to post.  Every time I start I get distracted with one thing or another.

We have another bluebird pair starting a nest in a different bird house.  When we looked at the forsaken bird nest we were surprised that it had 5 eggs not four as we had thought.  I'm sure something happened to the female.  We decided to wait a couple more days just in case the female comes back.  But I don't think that is likely.  The new pair is the same house that was used last year.  Larry had cleaned the house and destroyed the old nest as it was full of ants.  We can see the pair taking turns going in and out of the house so I am sure they are busy building their nest.  I took a picture of the nest that was left with the eggs.

I've been busy baking bread and then I made two small cherry cobblers.  After lunch I ate half of one of the cobblers with a dip of vanilla ice cream and it was good.  Ive been on my feet since I got up this morning and now I'm going to just relax and read my book.

It has been a beautiful day.  Hope the rest of the day goes well for everyone.

I just received this email from Pat's BIL:

Hi Larry Just a short note to let you know that Pat passed away at 4pm this afternoon. Please pass this on the CP Family. Thanks John.

Mary Ann

Larry, thanks for the message, sad as it is.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

My condolences to Pat's family and all those who knew her.

Mary Ann, I wanted to ask before, but forgot. My TracFone is just a voice/text phone using the 2G network. I haven't received any notifications of discontinuing it but maybe I should get up on the net to find out. I wonder if it is just your area or all over.

I wasn't up to sitting at the computer today because my foot and back were giving me too much trouble. Took a long while and several doses of ibuprofen to clear most of it up. I guess mowing the grass and weeding the day after a lot of walking wasn't such a good idea. I did cheat a little by weeding for 10 or 15 minutes this afternoon when I went outside for something else. The backyard still needs mowed. Hope I can get out before it starts raining again.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I think it depends on the phone you have.  Mine is a Nokia and evidently different brands are part of different networks.  I wouldn't worry if you haven't received the message.  My Nokia has no extra features; I think I could text but I never learned how.  I noticed with one of the replacements there was a cost to be able to text besides a cost to text.  My phone number will be transferred.  I never was able to activate the Voice Mail and it filled up and I could not get those calls.  But I only used the phone for traveling and to call Tom to pick me up.  If I still drove, I would not need a phone.

Mary Ann

Joy

Sorry to read the sad news about Pat. My sympathy goes out to her family.  I was thinking about the house that they had in Virginia, I think it was.  Wondering if they still owned that house.  Not sure if that house was the one that her second husband had owned. He wasn't from Canada, was he?

Mary Ann,  after the video link that Patricia had posted showed the way they get people off the bridge,  the one about what happens when lightning hits the bridge came on right after that one finished.  I didn't watch it at the time, but had planned to go back later and watch it.

I have one of the Jitterbug cell phones that my daughter-in-law pays for.  It is a kind of a smart phone, that does a lot of things.  But, I hardly ever use it. My other cell phone was just a phone,,,,,,,didn't do anything but make calls.  When it stopped holding a charge, my DIL got me this one. When I used to go to appointments on the bus, I would use a phone to call my friend to come pick me up. Now, I hardly ever go anywhere by myself.  I should carry it with me, tho, as it does take a nice picture and there are times when I would like to take a picture of something. Just forget to take it with me most of the time. I do take it when my son is going to pick me up, as he is usually late and I feel like I should call him to see if he forgot me.

I just got back to my apartment after playing cards. I had a substitute partner, and we won, for a change.  That doesn't happen very often. We had 2 players who are in their mid-90's and they both are sharp as a tack. They really watch that nobody does anything wrong.

I need to get some things done before I go to bed. I have to go for blood work early in the morning, as I can't eat any breakfast.  I want to get my clothes ready, so I don't have to rush. My DIL is taking me and not sure if we will go out for breakfast or I might just stop at McDonalds and get an egg McMuffin to bring home.  Depends on whether she needs to get home.

Hope everyone will have a good night.

Larry, do hope you had a better day that you have been having. Hope your doctor's appointment went well.

Joy, I'm not sure, but Pat and Paul may have had the house in Virginia built after they married.  Her home was in Guelp, Ontario, Canada.  I imagine she will be buried in Guelph.
'
The phone I bought will have no additional charges.  There was the cost of the phone itself and also for the service plan.  It is a flip top so it will not be much larger than my present phone.  I'll have to transfer some of my phone numbers from one to the other.  I'm not as excited as I would be if I had decided to change, instead of the decision being made for me by TracFone.  The new phone will be handled in the same way - by TracFone.  I had considered a Jitterbug until I realized the new phone would be handled as the TracFone and I liked that.

I can't tell you how many years since I've played bridge - at least 50 because it was with my dad's bridge club and he died 49 years ago.  It was not the bridge of today and I was not a card player anyway.  My card game is solitaire, now on the computer.

Tom just came home from seeing a movie with Annie and her SO.  Tom said it was the worst movie he's ever seen  i don't know the name, but it had a lot of shootings and dead bodies.  But the advantage was he was with his daughter.

Now i'll head for bed.

As someone who has just lost someone very close ( five weeks ago ) my heart goes out to Pats close family...It doesnt matter whether we are expecting the death to take place or whether the death occurred suddenly, the loss and emptiness alone is hard to comprehend when that person has been part of ones life for so long...

Rest In Peace Pat Scott Halbeck...we have much to be grateful for, you set up this fine friendship forum for us...

My phone is a Nokia too. I've had it since 2008 or 2009.

Nothing to report this morning - yet - but the day has just begun.

Mary Ann, I just checked TracFone online and, sure enough, my phone is set to be migrated. They haven't started the process in this area yet. I think I will get one that has a camera on it, if offered. That is the only extra feature I am interested in.

Hi Everyone.  I am up early this morning due to the fire alarm in our bedroom starting to beep every minute or so that the battery was low and needed to be changed.  This is a story of one of the little miracles in life that God gives us as it was certainly that.  It was only 5:45 in the morning.  The battery is very easy to change if one can get on a step stool to reach it as we have 9 foot ceilings that are up pretty high.  I was going to try to get up a step or two on the step stool, which I know I shouldn't eve try but certainly wasn't going to let Pat do it.  I was able to get dressed without any trouble today whereas yesterday it had taken help from Pat to finish doing it after working on it for 90 minutes.  I was headed to the garage for the step stool and had opened the garage door (Scott started installing a ramp for us last night but needed a different bit so it wasn't safe to go out the garage door.)  I had opened that door and am able to reach around for the switch to the big garage door.  I was headed to the front door when I saw that my good neighbor across the street had started his truck to back out for work.  So I flashed the outside garage flood light on and off and opened my front door and started waving. Fortunately  he happened to see the light and then me standing in the doorway waving frantically to him as he was heading up the street.  He stopped and got out and asked what was wrong.  I quickly told him and he got the step ladder out of the garage and quickly changed the battery and then was on his way to work.  All this took no more than 5 minutes so hopefully it didn't make him late to work. If that isn't an example of God looking out for us today I don't know what it could be.

So we are getting an early start to our day.  Our housekeeper will be here later this morning and Scott is coming back over to bring my new Rollator that the doctor prescribed yesterday and we had stopped at the drug store.  He went in to get it only to find they had sold out of this equipment earlier yesterday morning and it wouldn't be available until this morning.  He was able to go ahead and do all the paperwork with my identification and insurance card so they will call him this morning when they get new durable equipment in.  So he will be out as soon as that happens and will finish up the ramp.

Hopefully the next two or three days will be uneventful as this has been a very busy, very emotional and tiring week.

Mary Ann, my visit went well yesterday although I was pretty exhausted when we got home as that was the last of my three appointments this week.  Now have about two weeks with no appointments until the Echo on the 30th except to have some blood drawn on the 22nd of this month.

Joy, thanks for your kind words.  The only thing he suggested was to cut my Entresto tablet in half and take half in the morning and the other half in the evening.  My cardiologist had told me, when I had asked her about doing this, that it should not be cut as there was some type of coating on it.  I also went to the Entresto website yesterday afternoon and saw it said the same thing.  So I will not be doing that.  The main thing I got from the visit was the prescription for the Rollator but also confirmed if I am under Hospice care that they will work with him when needed and that I likely won't have to make any more office visits.  He also said he had been the medical director for a Hospice group at one time so is well aware of what they do and was very encouraging.  Glad you had a nice weather day yesterday and hope today is the same for you.  We will be in the 90's today.

Marilyne, no it isn't unusual for this area to have a few 90 degree days this time of the year.

Jackie, just prayer for me and don't worry as I am being well taken care of by good doctor's and a loving family.  What else could a man at this stage in life want.  Our kids reach that 50 mark quickly.  We are also great grandparents at a very early age.

Mary Ann, it is always a nice feeling when someone has helped us with some housekeeping.  Glad Robin brought you some things to help you sort more quickly. I have always enjoyed Mexican food until now when I have lost my appetite.  This week I have started having a second nutritional drink for my evening meal and that is all I want.  So enjoy that Mexican food for me as our enjoyment of eating at such restaurants now just is a very pleasant memory.  Glad you settled on a new phone that meets your needs.

Patricia, certainly nice weather you are having.  So sorry your arthritis has you done and hope you will soon be feeling better.  Farrah is just trying to help you out with your typing.  I wonder if she understands what she is typing in cat language.  :)

Jean, nice to see you were finally able to post yesterday. I hope the ants leave your bird house along this year.

MarsGal, sorry that your back and foot were hurting yesterday.  That yard work is hard on one's back.

As far as I know Paul still has the big house in Virginia but know he is planning to move to a small place his son is building for him behind the son's home. I know Paul has been busy going back and forth to Canada for a long time.

Joy, while it is always fun to play friendly games it is nice when we win occasionally.

Bubble, thanks for opening the Tranquil Cove place to share remembrance of our dear Pat.

Yes I totally agree, you have a guardian angel watching over you just when you need him-her to lend you a helping hand, the timing was perfect...I have encountered the same on a couple of occasions over the three weeks after losing Richard, I am a firm believer of this, and I shall remain so...As my late father often would tell me..." our God works in mysterious ways..."

Larry, how fortunate your neighbor left when he did so you didn't attempt to get on your step ladder.  I have a little 3-step ladder that I have used for years.  When Tom is here, I don't need to use the ladder and when he is not here, I don't use it because I'd hate to fall with no one around.

A funny thing just happened with the Port Huron ship site.  A Dutch ship was going under the Blue Water Bridge and two women came running out of the Blue Water Convention Center to take a picture.  Just then, a train going in the same direction passed through, between the Center and ship and the women were jumping all over, trying to get a picture of the ship.  The train was a bit faster than the ship and the women were able to get pictures of the back of the ship.  I knew the track was there but never expected to see a train go by on it.

Tom got a last minute call to teach today so will be gone until late because he has exercise class after that.  I told him I was happy for him if he was happy about it.  He said he really needed a nap, but he was glad to earn some money.

The sub teaching has been a life saver for Tom as the semi recruiting was not doing well and he quit that.  Uber is spasmotic because they have lowered the pay on the surges so those pay about half of what they did.  I don't know what he'll do this summer as he feels regular teachers will fill in for summer school.  But I don't worry about Tom because he's always been able to find jobs, menial or otherwise, even when it meant washing dishes at a former restaurant when he was young.  The best thing about the sub teaching is that in most cases he has loved it.

The morning is flying by.  Another pretty day.  No plans today besides a quick stop at the store for some cereal and Half and half.  I poured some half and half (expiration date July) in my coffee today and it curdled.  The cream smelled sour.  I made another cup of coffee and just used milk.  If that is all that goes wrong I won't complain.

Mary Ann, nowadays you might want a phone even if you did drive.  We don't use our cell phone much but we like to have it "just in case."  They have done away with all the public telephone booths, and I wouldn't want to depend on anyone just stopping by to "help".  Sad to say, but times have changed.  I make good use of the camera even 'tho I seldom make a call on the phone.  (And my perfectly good real camera sits on the shelf.  That phone camera is convenient)

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Best description of the weather this morning is "Icky Sticky"!  Clouds blowing in from the west (Icky) and also from the south (Sticky). Weather gurus probably correct that we will have STORMS later today and tomorrow.

Re: phones.  My dil who works at AT&T sets mine up and I keep forgetting to ask her how to get pictures off of it onto my computer.  Other son (not her husband) tried to "walk me through it" but we didn't communicate all that well. (He works with computer programs and my eyes cross when he starts explaining things.  :smitten: )

Did anyone happen to be looking at the New York Harbor Port web cam the day the helicopter went down?  I got in just in time to watch live as it was being pulled from the water.  What a tangled mess on the deck of the rescue barge/ship.

I keep missing ships going in and out of Duluth and surrounding areas but have seen some interesting fishing boats coming and going on the Harbor Launch Site.

If I could reach my back, I'd give it a pat  :D .  Yesterday and this morning, I've managed to do four errands I've been putting off for......well, let's just say "a while"  ::) .  Finally found a laundry that will wash bathroom rugs that are too big to go in my washer.  Also took in a couple of blankets.  And...it's only about a mile from my house.

Then went to Walgreen's and remembered to take some coupons I'd gotten in the mail.  They're the kind that give you a small discount when you've acquired a certain number of points.  The nice clerk added a few so I'd qualify for a nice discount on my purchases this morning.

I think it's going to be A Good Day.  Hope Everyfriend Everywhere also has one.
