too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice,

Good morning everyone..

-25° F at the moment. Beautiful star studded sky this morning.

Picking up Kyle's blister packs and home to work is about it for me today. Phone calls were made yesterday and only one didn't answer back so maybe today??

Joy, haven't played Hand and Foot but enjoyed euchre, crib and Philadelphia rummy. I doubt I could remember all the steps of the rummy game now since it has been so long ago that I played.

Jane, hope February is much better for you and Spring is on its way. You can feel the heat from the sun now and soon it will be honeycombing the snow banks.

Gloria de, I still have my Dad's crib board but seldom play anymore. I do play on line though.

Bubble, thank you for the new start page . I say age is just a number to ignore as long as you are having fun.  Just made me think of Shirley riding her snow jet :)

Need another cup of tea..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Stay warm!

WOW!!  Look how nice and clean it is in here!  You do a great job, BUBBLE!  I love the Valentines and the sayings are so true!

We got up early because the guys are coming to drag my car out of cover and get it started a little after 8 this morning.  I have to call them and let them know I'm up and attem and ready for service.

This time I'm sure it's the cold that got it because the battery isn't even a year old yet.

I keep forgetting to tell all of you that my WalMart does have bacon crumbles in stock.  We even have a small pack for people who don't use a lot of them.  It looked like it might be enough for on top of a casserole or maybe for about 3 omelets, depending on how much you like in an omelet.  I've forgotten the price but I thought at the time that it was pretty reasonable

We got up to -1º today and it's not supposed to get higher than 10 all day.  And guess what else?  Snow showers are predicted for the morning.  I guess it's goig to snow every day I'm scheduled to work.  Maybe next year I'll just take January off.  Nah, that would just add to the doldrums. I'd be sitting around here with no one to talk to except the dogs and I'd end up with a bad case of the "screamin' meanies".  That wouldn't be any fun!

We have 10 minutes until the boinger goes off for the doggies breakfast.  I guess I better get moving.  Stay warm, stay happy, stay well or get well and come back for a visit!

Not quite as cold this morning.  I put off shopping yesterday because I just couldn't face going out in the cold so I'll try it today.  It is a necessity because we are nearly out of milk and some other things.

Jenny, thanks for passing on Dr. Dave's note.  Still praying for Michele but her positive attitude makes her recovery so much better.

I've been doing some file sorting and trying to clear out a lot of stuff.  The shredder is working overtime.  I hope it doesn't quit on me.  How on earth do I manage to accumulate so much paper?  :dontknow:

Must turn off the computer and get on with my day.  Stay well and safe.

Good Morning and Welcome to February, Everyfriend,

Felt like a heat wave when I went out to get the paper.  Patio thermometer was almost to 50 degrees.  Weather gurus are predicting close to 70 degrees early next week and then - surprise surprise ( ) - another Arctic Front.

Jenny, so happy to read Dr. Dave's reports on Michele.  She's a fighter!!!!

Interesting to read about the different card games y'all enjoy.  My parents used to play a game of cribbage every night.  My beloved Aunt Esther was a wicked Hearts player and my mil liked Canasta.
Parents of The Grands taught them various kids' games at an early age.  Miss Ellen loved to knock an opponent back to Start when playing Sorry. Then she'd sweetly say,  "Saw-wy" and, when I'd say 'You are not!", she'd giggle.
Family still plays table games every holiday.  Mexican Train dominoes and Peanut are favorites and can get pretty wild.
Anybody play Bridge? My parents met at a Bridge party.  Mother tried to teach me before I went to college but the method she used just didn't click with me.  Then I learned a more current method in the dorm/sorority house.  Hubby learned in the Army and we played a lot of couples Bridge - but NOT Duplicate!  We liked to talk too much  ;) .  I like to play good Bridge but couldn't care less about earning Master Points and that sort of thing.
We also enjoyed Farkle, Uno and Skip-Bo when those became popular.

I've been busy sorting out things for the accountant's Tax Organizer and going to various doctor appointments for "maintenance" check-ups.

Have been reading posts - but mostly on my Tablet and I don't really like to type on it.  Please know that I think of each of you every day and send prayers, hugs and good wishes for An Enjoyable Day.  :smitten:

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful sunny morning and I woke up this morning not exhausted and actually feeling like doing something.  I am so hoping that the the dehydration is a thing of the past and I will feel like doing something.  Scott stopped by to give me the renewed car registration and tag for this year.  I had asked him to help me with that as the way I was feeling no way was I going to be able to get to the DMV or City Hall to pay it. Yesterday he made a trip out here just to bring in our trash can.  Each time he comes he spends a little time with us which is very pleasant.  If I continue to feel good all day we plan on going out to eat our main meal mid-afternoon.

Joy, I always remind myself when I have a higher heat bill that my dollar bills won't keep me warm and glad I had the heat to stay warm when needed.  I think Euchre is very popular in parts of the Midwest.

June, I feel the same way about us having a pet now as we really wouldn't be able to take good care of it.  When I was in the ER the other day they actually had a comfortable mattress on the gurney, which is unusual for an ER.  The ER doctor asked me if I wanted to be admitted to the hospital and told him certainly not. Glad you are doing things your way-keep up the good work.

Jenny, Happy to see that Michele has been discharged from the hospital.  I have always believed that having a very positive attitude help a lot in getting recovery.  I will continue to pray for Michele as she under goes more procedures for the other tumors. I am sure it is big help to Dave and Michele that you all can be so much help with the grandchildren.

Shirley, like you my great grandchildren are the ages of or older than Jenny's grandchildren.  I love fresh vegetables to munch on and will often have fresh, not cooked, vegetables with a main meal.  Cooking changes to taste of many things.

Amy, I hope you got a good nights sleep.  We have never had a large dog to sleep on the bed but don't think I would like that very much.  I don't think I mentioned that my granddaughter had to get rid of her very large dog, which was part pit bull and part Rottweiler as he had attached her friend twice, once requiring a trip to the ER.  She gave it to a friend but Scott said this morning that the friend had to have the dog put down as it had hurt someone else.  I am very relieved that that big dog is out of my son's house.  I hope it warms up soon up your way.  Do you have to pick up the blister packs weekly?  I see you are still very cold up your way.  I think Cribbage may be my favorite game as have played it all of my life and we used to play it during lunch time at work.  I have a cribbage board that belonged to my grandfather and then father that has ivory inlays and ivory pegs.  It folds in half and the pegs store inside the box.

Lindancer, I hope you were able to stock up for awhile on your outing yesterday as it sounds like Rima will be laid up for awhile with the knee surgery.  Pat and I played weekly cards, often bridge, with friends when the kids were small.  I guess those days are now past us and we just have to play some games on the computer.  I do sleep with oxygen both at night and most often when I rest in the afternoon.  Game playing was always big in my family as I grew up and for many years after adulthood.

Jane, I also am glad to see January end.  One more month and we will begin to see the signs of spring.  Of course, are winter weather really isn't bad down here so no complaints.  Everything is drab looking at this time of the year. I hope February will be a good month for you.  I will try to remember to mention to Pat that she could get the bacon crumbles from Walmart.

Bubble, thanks for getting us started for the new month with a fresh discussion.  I loved the graphics and Valentines Day will soon be here.  I also liked the saying you shared.

Phyllis, sounds like you were wise to put off the shopping until today.  My office waste can has to be dumped usually twice a week as it gets so full of waste paper.

Lloyd, always good to see you have been able to get a good nights sleep.  I hope you find the horses you want and can get your RV fixed.

Callie, glad you are going to get a few days of warmer weather.  Do you still have wind there most days.  That is one of my lasting memories of living in Oklahoma for three years.  I also like to play Hearts and Spades.  I don't know what the game of Peanut is.  We never played duplicate bridge but just a lot of party bridge.  For a couple of years I played weekly at our Senior Center and we had usually 14 to 16 tables and would play four hands and then the losers would move to a different table.  Have you considered getting a blue tooth keyboard to use with your iPad?  They are inexpensive and make typing with the iPad so much easier.

Good afternoon, back is business at last. I was here this morning and suddenly my mouse would not work.  >:(  Batteries died and my wired mouse will not work on this lemon HP computer. >:(  Waited till my CNA got here and sent her to the store for batteries.
Hope tomorrow I can get back into my routine.
Heard On the weather at noon that by next mid week it will be 50° but another cold spell will follow.

I'm here too but I'm tired, too.  I think I'll go take a nap and see what the rest of the day brings.  I read everything and I'd love to answer everyone but my mind is over there somewhere.  When I find it, I'll try to come back.  Stay warm and cozy until I get back.

I'm here, too, and also need toothpicks to hold my eyelids up!  So good to see your post today, Larry.... you sound like your old self.

Gloria, since I discovered The Dollar Tree.... and those batteries they carry (Sunbeam) I keep packages of them ahead. I buy the "high drain" type & the normal... they last as good as any of the ones advertised for 3x the price... and only a dollar a package for 4 AA or AAA... etc. My mouse also uses them & used to dread having them go dead when I didn't have others in the house.

June, sorry you are still so weary... My son was here yesterday & looked so haggard... his doctors have him on BP meds & he is afraid to not stay on until his check up the middle of this month. BUT, like my father, he slept all day & night when taking, until I threw a fit & his doctor took him off. His BP never got too high the rest of his life!  I'm convinced that is what is causing Andy to be so tired & sleepy. He won't give up but takes him twice as long to do a job, & that can't be good for him. Vicious circle.

Daughter is coming by again for a while so I need to pick up. I really would like a nap but can do that after she leaves....phone call, she's on her way.

Good afternoon, it w3as 17 when I went for doctor visit this AM. Sun shining and little wind.  Primary doctor said

HI with hugs to Amy, June, Jenny and anyone else i forgot

come back in May, but go see vascular doctor first.
Thanks Buble, for our Feb. start and the Valentines

Larry, glad you feel better, but please do not try to do to much.  I do find the oxygen helps. To day I had to take a Niacin as I think I was rushing around getting ready for my appointment

Callie I play Hearts and Alhambra on the computer every night.  Bridger and Pinochle were too card games I never liked, because I had to think and not talk so much.  My husband loved pinochle who could remember every card played. when he was on the DE during THE war that all they played

Gloria, did not see you to day.

Shirley, I just see in the paper, that the Dollar Tree is one pf the biggest money making stores going right now,  I also saw that one is going to come to Riverhead.  I shopped in the one in Charleston,SC and liked it.

Gloria guess my eyesight is going, when I checked back I saw your post

I also had sent hugs to Jenny, JUne Jane and Amy, hope I did not leave anyone out.  I had put this in my forst post but I see it did not show up.

My goodness temp got up to +5° F ....wow!. Yes for Sat and Sun they are calling for rain and freezing rain.

Larry  happy to see your post, please take it easy and take care of yourself first!.

Shirley, Kyle was on so many meds and when we mentioned his sleeping the Dr cut back on some. He will always have his neuropathy due to the chemo but that is a small price to pay.

Gloria de, hugs and thank you for the hugs. That was good news from your Dr!!

This pup sure keeps one on the run, loves the outdoors no matter how cold it is.

Going to throw another stick on the fire.

Gloria de....so good to see your posts.  I  don't take oxygen but they have me on Albuteral, on a breathing machine, three times a day. It sure helps, especialy with this darn pneumonia, that just won't heal up. started in Dec. and they have tried three different meeds and they didn't work. My doctor is on vacation. Her stand in had me have a Cscan...they suspected lung cancer....thank God it is still pneumonia.

Jenny, I take two kinds of blood pressure pills. I'm going to ask my Dr. if I still need them.

Amy, what breed of puppy did you choose ? I have had strays and purebreds all of my life. My favorite was adopted from the Shelter. He was a black and white spaniel mix. An Angel of a dog. Your little one will shed his puppy-hood and calm down, as I know you know that....have fun !

I've been here to read once since I posted.  I took a nap, watched some TV, let the dogs out and in 5 times, had supper and fed the dogs.  Now I'm in my jammies and ready to hit the hay!

LARRY, they are right!  You did sound more like yourself today.  I sure hope that continues.  Nice that Pat could get the shopping done without your help this time.  Nice that she had Scott's help!

GloriaDE, thanks for the hugs. I can always use an extra hug or two.

My daughter texted that my grandson who lives and works in Philadelphia, will be home this weekend....with his new GIRLFRIEND of 4 months!  She's excited!  I can't wait to hear all the scoop!

Nothing planned for the weekend except some "around the house" type stuff.  Maybe some cooking.  I'm NOT going ou and run around even if the temps get into the 40s as they are predicting.

I'm going to try to get to bed early tonight and up early tmorrow.  I seem to get more accomplished if I'm up early.  Don't know if I'll be back in here before I go to bed so I'll say "Good Night" now  Sleep warm and wake happy!

Good morning everyone.

Lightly snowing now and the weather guessers are also calling for rain and freezing rain today and tomorrow.

I made yogurt in the instant pot and just have to put it into a container with a lid. Right now it is still straining in the fridge. This will be Greek yogurt  when  done. Will put some in the hidey hole along with some raspberries.

Laundry day today and general work about the house. We do have to go to the dump either today or tomorrow ,will see how the day goes.

June, Jesse is a labradoodle X SND ( Sneaky Neighbours Dog) and a real go getter. He is black and white and marked like Babe our Border Collie X Australian Shepherd. She tolerates him but when he over steps will put him in his place.

Rammel ,hope you had a good night.

Lloyd, we are sitting at 0° F at the moment. Wold love 43°.

Have a great day everyone...

So good to read Larry's post and find that he sounds like he is feeling so much better.

I take one blood pressure med. for A-Fib and I know it makes me sleepy and groggy so with my doctor's permission I take it at bedtime.  It takes me a cup of coffee to wake up in the morning but I'm not as tired during the daytime.  I've tried to get off of it but doctor says I really need it.

Beautiful sunny day here and supposed to be in low 60's.  That will be VERY nice.  I don't plan to go anywhere but I MAY go over to Best Buy and get a new small digital tv for kitchen and an antenna for it.  I'm getting closer and closer to cutting the cord but want to be sure that it is the right thing for me to do.  TV is my main source of "entertainment" along with reading so I want to be sure that what is available on antenna and also streaming channels such as Roku and Amazon Prime Video will be enough for me.  Still thinking it through.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Our temp is at 6º right now and is headed for a high of36.  I can take that!  Tomorrow and Monday it's supposed to get into the 40s!  I don't suppose I should count on Spring coming soon?

LLOYD, I haven't been a sleepyhead this morning...just busy.  Had things to do before I could turn into a computer nut!  The rest of the day is open to suggestion.  I'm thinking   :-\

Hi Everyone.  We are going to have another nice day with a high of 60 and it will be mostly cloudy and a low chance of rain.  I am convinced that I am over the dehydration bout as this is the second morning I have awaken and haven't been tired.  I didn't get too many hour of sleep last night.  I am looking forward to attending my Saturday meeting after mixing the last three weeks.  This afternoon there are some good basketball games to watch.  Late yesterday afternoon we went to Dairy Queen for our main meal.  Pat likes their chicken strips and I had a small hamburger and the children's size Blizzard, which is what I will order from now on as it was just the right amount. Before we ate we stopped briefly at Dollar Tree to get the birthday cards for our great grandchildren for the year and a birthday card for my sister, whose birthday is next Wednesday.  Pat also got a half dozen puzzle find books, which we both enjoy.

Gloria, I am surprised that your wired mouse wouldn't work on your computer.  Glad you got new batteries so that you are back in business.  I have been using rechargeable batteries almost exclusively for quite awhile and between Pat and I have some to charge every week.

June, I sure wish you could get over that pneumonia.  I hope today finds you feeling better.

Shirley, I felt like my old self yesterday and again today. I am going to have to get the strength in my legs restored and I do recognize I have limits because of my heart but resting for a little while usually restores my energy.  There is a consumer reporter named Clark Howard on one of the Atlanta radio stations and he tries to save every penny.  I heard him or read something he wrote about the inexpensive batteries being as good as the more expensive ones.  Sorry your son is feeling so tired.

Lindancer, I usually use my oxygen even when I lay down in the afternoon.  I didn't yesterday and ended up having trouble getting my breath.  I am not familiar with Alhambra.  Is that a card game or some other type?  While I like to win and give it my best I never get upset is I lose.  My folks played Pinochle and I also know how to play it but it has been a long time and would have to review the rules.  It is nice we can find game rules on the Internet now.  We have at least two Dollar Tree stores in our local area as well as Dollar General and another Dollar type store.  However, Dollar Tree is our favorite.

Amy, that is not much of a forecast for the weekend to look forward to.  It was a joy yesterday to be able to do things without ending up have to stop and pant as I have had to do the last few weeks. It sounds like that is a lively pup you now have and it won't be too long before he is out of the puppy stage.  It is interesting how bigger dogs tolerate actions of the little ones and the little ones often show no fear in taking the bigger dog on. What makes it Greek yogurt?

Jane, I hope you had a good nights sleep and that February turns out to be a good month for you.  Scott has been a big help to us and we do appreciate it and try not to take advantage of it.  Hugs are always welcome and here is one for you today and for all who post.  I hope you can enjoy your "weekend around the house".

Lloyd, glad you are warming up out your way.  It sounds like Nancy is keeping you busy and hope you get to go to your shop today.

Phyllis, keeping control of one's blood pressure is very important as don't they call that a silent killer.  I have always been blessed with low blood pressure it seldom gets to where my cardiologist wants it to be. I hope you find the small TV you want and that it works for the channels you want to get with the antennae.

Good morning everyone, this is the first day all week I feel like a human. Still cold but the sun is shining and the sky is clear. This is one time clouds would be nice, would be warmer. Enough about the temperatures this week.

JUNE for the first time since I moved here I have not been outside all week. Even if it was nice and warm I don't think I would have had the energy to go out.

JANE  you sound as energetic as me. Must be the weather.

SHIRLEY  I thought I had more batteries but I had AAA and no more AA. Those cheaper batteries never seem to last long for me so I always get the Duracell and they last longer.

GLORIA de  pinochle was what my family always played. I enjoyed playing it. One BIL was great, he could remember who bid and what card everyone threw down.

AMY  rain OK but with the temp if we get rain it will be freezing and that is not good.

LARRY  glad you are feeling better. We were very worried about you. Like you I have not played pinochle in years and would have to learn all over again.

My son just called and he is on he way over. Early for him to come, he usually gets here about noon. Have a good day and keep warm.

Phyllis, I now have a little TV in the kitchen, 2 bedrooms, family room & downstairs by the ironing board.  Actually, another one by the treadmill that I don't use. TV from gr-son whose mother planned to use treadmill when in town. All are Viseo that came from Sam's Club... along with the little antennas that take push pins into the wall above each of the TVs. I get the 3 local TV stations plus about 35 others but mainly watch the ME TV station & the Grit (mostly westerns), local for news...  My son says he watches FOX a lot (he also has antenna TV). I bought the 2 pack antenna from Sam's Club & been happy with them. BUT, basically tv watching is "background noise" for me. I rarely just sit & watch, but works great for naps. I don't get good reception when at the lake in MO and NO reception in the mountains of CO (can't even get radio there). But I bought a cheap DVD player for the bedroom I nap in.... and have 2 that came in the RV. Have recorder/players with the main TV in the house living room & front of RV. Might say I'm wired. But it's my only entertainment.

Larry, my son tells me (often) that HE uses rechargeable batteries but when my husband & I tried some one time, we never got them to charge right, always one that wouldn't work, so we gave up. My son said we got the wrong kind & wrong charger. I've had such good luck with these Sunbeams it hasn't been worth looking into. My mother was a great believer in the chamomile tea you drink, but I think she used milk in hers, do you?  Seemed like what she let me drink was mostly milk  ;) .

Gloria, glad you are feeling better, been worried about you. Remember when Arthur Godfrey used to talk about "drinking your sassafras tea" in the spring. My cousin back in the WVa/Maryland area has some of those trees on their land (17 acres) but when she brought me some at our yearly reunion, it wasn't the root, I think it was small branches. Since I really don't know enough about it, I didn't try to make tea.

Amy, we are supposed to have spring for a few days, really going to confuse the trees & plants. The front yard has a haze of green showing already, but the back is still brown. We had enough cold weather this past week to freeze the buds on the trees that were puffed out. This morning it was fog & actual moisture on the sidewalk, driveway & pool cover. Cats are all back inside sleeping.

Oh, I'd better get moving, got up at 5:00 am & it's after 10:00 withing nothing done. Need to check to see if daughter is coming for lunch. She goes back home tomorrow.  Have a great day, Every Friend!

A very quick good morning.

I left here at 7:30 this morning to go get blood work done and I just got back a short time ago.  It is still so cold even tho it is supposed to get up to 40º later. My son and I did go to Bob Evans for breakfast and I am still so cold, I am going to ago back and crawl under a warm cover for a little while.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND💕
No news from Dr.Dave yet this morning, but he did text to say every time he gets ready to call me something else takes his time, so he will call me as soon as he can.  Poor guy has so much on his plate.

My dad continues to have more issues.  The report from the MRI on Thursday showed he has another fractured disc.  He will have the treatment done to it a wee' from today.  Now we know why he has been having more and more pain.  His back is so fragile that the spine doctore is really concerned that it will continue to happen to more of them. I want to get down there to see him, but until we get more info on when Michele will have her treatments after the visit to the oncologist next Friday, I just can not plan to leave.  Thank you all again for your continued thoughts and prayers.

JANE, i know the family is excited for the visit from your grandson and his new gal.

AMY, your Jesse sure sounds like he is settling in nicely.  He sounds like a honey.

LARRY, it sure is good to hear you are feeling stronger each day.

JUNE, holding good positive thoughts and saying prayers that you, too, will get to feeling so much better.

GLORIA, I sure hope you can get out and about now that it is warming up some in your area.

The rain and winds in California are sure terrible.  Mark has been having a lot of issues at the golf course....flooding and tree issues.  They have a big golf tournament tomorrow and he is afraid he is going to have to cancel it.

We have a pretty day and I do need to get out and get some things done.

Take care and enjoy your day.

Jenn

I did a little baking, some cleanup and some bookkeeping today and unless I get an urge to do something else, I won't!

About batteries....one time when I was still working Electronics at WM, I was the only one there when the battery guy (an outside vendor at that time) came to fill the display.  It was just inside Electronics in front of our checkout. We got to talking and I remarked that he seemed to be filling several brands of batteries and I asked if that was normal.  He said, "They're all made at the same place.  They just have different labels on them when they come off the line".  I laughed because I thought he was kidding.  He wasn't!  He explained that he used to work in the factory and that's the way it was.  Ever since that day, I've bought the cheapest ones on the market.  And I can't tell any difference in the length of service.

LARRY, thanks for the hug!  I can always use an extra one!  So far, my "weekend around the house" has been very pleasant.  I am going to try to go to church in the morning because I'm scheduled to read and I find that chore very rewarding.

I've been out and started the car to make sure it keeps going when I want it to.  Had a long chat with my daughter in Maryland on the phone.  And now I think I'll see what's on TV that I can watch through my eyelids.

I must say that listening to all of you talk about your technology makes me feel a bit deprived.  I have one TV, in my living room and that's were I watch or listen to it from the kitchen.  I have one computer and iPad.  The iPad is usually on the endtable in the living room so I can grab it to look up who is appearing in a show I'm watching.  I don't do much of anything else on it.  I can't think why I'd need any more TV or computers when it's only me.  And that's money saved for something else!  I don't do apps on my phone because it's too small to read.  I do text because that's how I keep in touch with the grandkids.  I guess I'm not as up-to-date as I thought I was.

Oh well, I have all of you!

I don't know why I don't just buy fur type slacks... as soon as I put a pair on they look like cats walking on hind legs. Got a new pair yesterday (under $5)... at my fav store so off to the sewing machine to shorten. That is always a must. The legs have been so skinny the last couple years & I finally found a pair with just a little flare at the bottom. I was meeting a friend from "the other side of town" or would not have been looking. Can't beat the prices.

Jane, I had a lady friend told me the same about clothes shipped to the store she worked in, boxes had gotten mixed & discovered all labels but same shirts from same factory! One of the major appliance men said the same, "one side was Sears label & other side Whirlpool"... so in those cases, I go with the store that has the nicest repair & warranty department. To be honest, I've only had a problem with one big item from Sam's Club, but I know my Walmart is the nicest to deal with for any "factory defect". The tire & battery people have always gone out of their way to give good service.

My husband was the phone & TV nut but after he died I got a little one for the kitchen since that's where I spend most of my time & the 2 bedrooms because one was going to be for my daughter when she stays (only she found waking up with HER grands is more fun).... I don't think the ones I bought cost much more than $100-$175, & my grands don't think that is too much to spend on "a nice evening out". Since I can count on one hand the times I've paid to have my hair cut or any other "foo-foo" for me, I am right with you on being a penny pincher.

Jenn, I am so sorry your father is going through this and you can't be there to hold his hand. My gr-mother's was the same, the bones just crumbled. She came to stay with my parents one time & my mother insisted taking her for X-ray... don't remember how many she had crushing together but no relief back then. She had been ram-rod straight until 8 years before she died when all her children (5) decided she couldn't stay in the house alone) & the one that had been living with her insisted he needed to get some years toward retirement. He had been the "go to man" for every kind of repair, especially cars, in the small town, modest living but not the paycheck for pension. Anyway, all of them had osteoporosis before they died so I knew I'd better work at keeping this back as strong as possible, that is our weak point. I have no fix or advice for your father but plenty of sympathy for him & for you... and a big hug & isn't too strong to hurt... the back bones really do get that fragile.

I felt icky/strange this morning when I got up, wasn't sure if a hang on dream or dehydration or maybe even a stroke... but I took a 325 mg Bayer, fed cats & tried to get my mind off it. I did take a 2nd aspirin a few hours later, had lunch with my daughter & a nap & feel human. I need to shorten these pants & run to the store so better get moving. Daughter goes home after church & breakfast at McDonald's in the morning. Not sure if Andy will return from the funeral tonight or stay with the family, he needs rest but won't get any there but I do hate to think of him driving home alone. Enough cars going back & forth he could ride back with one of them if his wife would rather stay & visit with her cousins. Her brothers will be staying so I'm sure they will do the wise thing, certainly out of MY hands!

I just checked & it is 65 degrees out now. Supposed to get warmer tomorrow. The wind started blowing, can hear it, so not a perfect day.  :-\  Amy, can you imagine such a change in temps as we have today???? The feel like was well below zero a day or so ago. Imagine the snow melt if we had snow.

Lloyd, have you been playing "big brother" & teasing Jane? Shame-shame.... ;D

Another nothing day for me, but I'm thankful to be here. It has been raining all day, rather hard for hours, but we can use every drop. There was a flash flood warning, but shortly after that the rain and wind stopped and it is very still outside, almost a feeling of "waiting for something to happen".

I'm still pretty breathless, and just got a refill on my breathing machine, so better get over there and put it to work. See you later. June

FYI:  I had a scam email supposedly with my email/internet provider telling me that they had reason to believe that someone had accessed my email for illegal use and that if I didn't confirm my user name and password they would disconnect me.  I called my provider and they confired that it was a scam and told me to put a block on it and not to respond to any more that I might get.  BE AWARE!

This was a totally inactive day.  I enjoyed every minute of it except for right now. My eye feels like there's a rock the size of Plymoth rock in there and I've rubbed it so much that the outside is beginning to hurt too.  I think I'll go to be and hope it makes it to the side by morning.

Good night Everyone!

Good Morning!  We are currenty at 21º and heading for a high of 41 today.  I can take that!  No rain is predicted but it will be cloudy most of the day.

My son will be over sometime today to reset my kitchen drawers.  No more missing drawers (and no more droopy drawers).

I have to go get my shower and get dressed for church while the doggies await the boinger.  I wish you all a good day and lots of sunshine and warm breezes in Missouri to dry up the mud.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone..
light dusting of snow overnight,  it came after 3.30 am when I had the dogs outs.

Jane, glad your droopy drawers will be no more.

Shirley, soon Spring will come but I must admit now please ..20 ° F at the moment and cloudy. Maybe we will get that rain today? Calling for rain again tomorrow also.

Larry, you strain the yogurt ,which I did over night and gosh is it thick! I saved the whey and will use it in smoothies and bread. I don't have the proper strainer but used a salad strainer. Lined the sieve part with coffee filter and elevated the strainer from the bowl........works!

Phyliss, a temp is the 60's would be awesome right now after our deep freeze we went through.

Gloria, enjoy your time with your son.

Joy, going back and snuggling under the covers is the thing to do in this cold weather.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

A quick good morning.  It is still cold, but sunny.  Supposed to get warmer here throughout the week.

Larry, I was so glad to read your nice long message and so glad you sounded so good.  I hope you continue to feel better and better each day.

Jane, glad you will be getting some of those warmer temperatures.  Enjoy your Sunday.

Jenny, so glad that your DIL is doing so well.  I hope all goes well with her Gamma Knife treatments. I have had 2 sessions of 5 Cyber Knife treatments over the past 12 years.  I think the Gamma Knife treatments are a little more involved than the Cyber Knife ones, but I do know they are not invasive. Maybe a little uncomfortable, but tolerable.  I wish her much luck.  She is a strong gal !!!

Sorry about your Dad, tho. I know it is so hard  on you being so far away and not exactly knowing what is going on.  Hopefully, you will be able to visit him later in the spring.

My DIL is coming over this morning to help me do some more de-cluttering. We are going to tackle my pantry. I know there will be a lot of things that probably will be pitched.  Just have to much "stuff".  If she has time, I hope to get a couple of the kitchen cabinets done.

I know I didn't get around to commenting on some other postings, but I sure hope everyone will have a good day and stay warm, if you are experiencing the cold weather.  And, hoping everyone is feeling pretty well this morning.

Good morning, Amy.  Yes, it sure did feel good to be able to go back to bed yesterday, and I did get warm and slept for a couple hours.  And,  I slept pretty well last night.  Had to get up early again this morning, but, at least, it doesn't feel quite as cold.

You have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  We start the day overcast but it is up into the 50's but will get into the low 60's today.  I did attend my meeting yesterday morning and then had a quiet afternoon and evening.  I managed to watch 4 different basketball games featuring very good teams at the top of the standings.  Today I will leave in a few minutes to attend Sunday School and then will attend Church which follows.  I have missed the last several weeks so it will be nice to be back among my friends.  This afternoon I will rest and watch a basketball game or two and then this evening will watch the Superbowl.  I just hope it is a good game.

I have run out of time to post here this morning so will have to come back later this afternoon to make comments.

Good morning everyone, WOW supposed to get into low 40s today, maybe I will get brave enough to go outside later.

SHIRLEY  yesterday I had the ME channel on all day, all the old westerns and I enjoyed them. Last night on GRIT I watched John Wayne movies.  I enjoyed Hondo again especially after reading the book. We had some sassafras trees on the property of our house. the kids and I would walk through the woods and pick branches and chew on them, tasted like rootbeer.  One thing interesting on the trees was they have different shape leaves.

JOY  I have been cold all week. Laying on the couch most of the time wrapped in a down throw to keep from shivering and had the heat turned up, too.

JENNY  prayers for your Dad and Michele. I know how it feels to have back pain and your Dad's is worse than mine.

JANE  like you, one TV one computer no smartphone, just a flip one and now my son's old Kindle.  Glad I found the old SN no long after I first got on line at age 70. Now with S&F we are a family here.

LLOYD  good morning, hope you and Nancy are rested from your trip.

JUNE  saw on TV about the rain in Ca. More out there than in a year at times.

JANE  I have been getting a phone call something from Microsoft and going out of business and I have a refund comin‌g and a number to call. I got it on my answering machine and I just delete it.

AMY  I did enjoy time with my son yesterday morning, always do. Then in the afternoon my other son surprised me and came for a couple of hours. He usually calls first but this time he just showed up. Nice.

LARRY  from what I have seen on local news there are more Patriots fans in Atlanta than locals. Personally I am tired of hearing about Brady. Good to see you more like yourself again.

Have a good day.

Gloria, I watched ME all day, too.... well, when I was here. I enjoyed Hondo again & all the old westerns. At least they have a story & not just weird stuff.  I am ready for a nap, cats are busy sleeping (each in a different part of the house)..... but bet as soon as I doze off the phone will ring. The Nomorobo works except that one about "a free back brace, etc" & the other one about "somebody scamming your SS number"... has gotten through. The nomorobo thing isn't working for me because it allows ONE ring before it stops them & that ring wakes me up! I forgot that sassafras tastes like root beer! Haven't tasted it for probably 75-80 years.

Hi Everyone.  I did attend Sunday School and Church this morning.  I came home and was ready for a nap.  While I was gone one of the smoke alarms started beeping that the battery needed to be changed so after eating my sub I changed the battery.  It isn't hard but I did have to get up on our step stool.  Now I am watching some basketball and am set for a quiet afternoon and evening.

Gloria, is sure was good read that you were feeling better yesterday and I hope you will be able to get outside for a few minutes.  I never had the ability to keep track of the cards played although sometimes I tried to remember how many trumps had been played in Bridge.

Shirley, we have four TV's in our house and a couple of them are really not used very much.  I still remember after Pat and I got married we had this little black and while 9" TV and actually watched it more than we probably do with the big TVs we have today.  I have a DVD player but haven't set it up since we moved.

Jenny, your poor dad sure didn't need more back pain.  Your worry plate overflows.  Did Mark have to cancel the golf tournament?

Jane, I expect many products and appliances are produced on the same production line with just different packaging and branding.  I hope your weekend around the house has been one you have enjoyed.  Do you have a garage for your car?

Lloyd, you sound like my wife and her sewing room.  She will go up to it to work on a project and comes back downstairs saying she had done something else.  I hope you have been able to enjoy the warm weather today.  We have the same temperature here this afternoon and should be up to 75 on Tuesday.

Shirley, I shuttered when you mentioned you might have dehydration.  I don't want to ever have that again.  Glad you got to feeling better.

Amy, thanks for the info on your yogurt.  I don't care for yogurt unless it is the frozen kind that is like ice cream.

June, I hope your area didn't get the flash flooding.  I hope your breathing machine makes it easier for you to breath.

What a day this has been!! Rain and freezing rain here and a thick crust of ice over everything. We took the garbage to the dump this morning, hadn't been in a while and we don't like it to get ahead of us. While at the dump I saw 4 , your FOUR bald eagles!! The fellow parked next to us must have thought I lost my marbles as I was so excited to see the four. One was just flying up to be with the others, lovely sight!  On the way to the dump I had to pull over as the rain was freezing on my windshield but once the heater put heat out we were ok.

Next we filled up the snow blower and generator  and went to pick up more high test fuel. We are all set now for snow or power outages from ice on the lines/trees.

Larry, I too enjoy yogurt ice cream, you have given me an idea now to try some.

They say rain for tomorrow too........oh my..

well it is time some of the rest of you people get up and face the day with me.
It is 60º and mostly cloudy here today calling for thunder storms tomorrow.
a good hard rain might be alright, would settle the ground and get the last of the frost out and smooth out the ruts. that little bit of frost left makes it hard to get around with the tractor. not to say any thing about this old man on the uneven ground getting around. I plan on feeding the cattle and then going to shop and work in the wood working part of it today. have plans to build four recipe boxes and send them to friends i have promised.see you all later.

Good Morning Everyfriend....especially you, LLOYD!  You're an earl riser for sure!

We're supposed to have warmer weather all week accompanied by rain.  Translate that word "rain" to "mud".  That much rain together with the warmer temps will surely make lots of mud for the dogs to track in!

I'll be off to Wally World this morning!  Wish me smiles and short lines.  If my favorite girl is working in the hair salon today, I might see if she can find my ears before I come home today.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  It's a month closer to Spring this month!  YAY!!!

Good morning everyone, right now it is 35°, WOW first time in it seems like months since it was this warm to start a day. The cars in the lot  are covered with frost so it was cold but with the sun rising earlier every day it makes a difference. Just saw when I turned on TV the Pats won again. Maybe if they lost Brady would retire.

SHIRLEY  like you every time I try to have a nap the phone rings. Must be 50 years since I tasted the sassafras. Have no idea if the ones who own the house we had cut the trees down. I do know they improved the looks on the outside of the house. With so many city people buying land here and building they cut down all the old blueberry bushes where we used to pick those tasty berries. This used to be such a nice quiet rural town but they started moving here and wanted the things they had in the city and it is no longer a friendly town it was.

LARRY  glad you were able to get to church yesterday. I did not go out yesterday, still felt kind of weak so thought I better not.

AMY  you were brave to head out to the dump with icy roads. I did enough driving in my working years to know what it is like driving on them.

LLOYD my son's FIL used to own a charter fishing boat and we went out once. I caught an eel and after that did no more fishing, looks too much like a snake and it scared me. I did enjoy the boat ride though.

JANE  like you I am wanting spring to get here with warmer weather. The cold this winter has really bothered me. Like I say I have no more blubber to hold the heat in, lost too much weight. I wish I knew what it was that Lillias' doctor gave her for an appetite.

Have a good day.

Speaking of Spring, Sandy, I stood at the window this morning and watched a flock of Red-Wing Blackbirds hunt and peck over the lawn.  So pleased to see them as they are always one of the first signs of spring.  They have moved on now continuing their path on up north, I guess.

I switched back and forth between "Victoria" and the Super Bowl.  At least, this year it was a closer, more interesting game.  I can't say I am enough of a fan to be glad or sad for whomever won or lost.  Honestly, whatever you think of Tom Brady as a person I think it is pretty obvious that he is a very talented player.  I enjoy some of the commercials more than the game but the half-time show is never something I watch.  Just not my cup of tea.  I'm much older than the audience they are interested in.

I need to switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer.  Have a good day, Everyone.  I hope the sun is shining on you...wherever you are.

Good afternoon. bright sun, no complaints even though I am not happy with the new set up. I like seeing where everyone lives, and the date. As they say, you have to go with the flow. AT  my age it just gets harder.  Even my rent went up 3%, but that is cheaper then if I lived outside the park,or have to pay some of these rents I read about. OK off my soap box. ;)

Sandy, I am thinking  Spring. March 21st. :coolsmiley:

Gloria, yesterday morning the radio, kept cautioning about black ice. As for eels I still like smoked eels. When I was growing up in the depression we had stewed eels, fried eels and smoked. As I have wrote many times before my family were baymen, we lived by  the Great South Bay. We always had a bushel of clams and oysters plus a bushel of potatoes in the garage. Maybe that is why  I am almost 95, I ate fish part of my growing years growing years

Larry, so glad to see you getting out and about. I found golf very exciting yesterday from Arz. that is always different and my Ricky won

Amy good to read you got to stay home. Of course and play with your puppy

Jenny prays and hugs still going to you and your whole family

Jane, I had my hairdresser come to the house last Wed. She only charges $15. I keep my cut short, just shaped. I feel so much neater when it is cut.

Phyllis, I meant to say to you, I have seen only one redwing blackbird in the last two years. There use to be so many.  We still have to many black birds they wipe out the bird seed in nothing flat.  This winter I have not seen my pair of ravens, they had been coming back for years. I red they mate for life. I do have my redheaded wood pecker every day eating bread. I am not sure if he should still be here. I also have a robbin that eats bread

Well, if not for doctor appointments I wouldn't have a social life!  ;D  Left a message for my tax man to call back with appointment. Want to get that job out of the way. 3 days in a row for eyes, heart & general going over... that is long over due (my fault).

Gloria, know what you mean about the towns changing. Back when I was a kid the whole section of land behind our house was owned by the Radio & TV station that faced the highway a couple blocks distance. It had to be kept free of anything (we called it "the woods") because of the tower, in case it fell. So when the station moved, land sold... it was already zoned commercial. There went the blackberries, strawberries, etc & the wild asparagus, what's the tree that puckers your mouth if you eat fruit too early?  Such a shame. Now there is a bank, day care, apartments, etc., and where the radio station was is a Golden Corral... When we have our reunions at GC we can see the back of the house that a niece lives in now. I visited once but too many memories.....

Phyllis, when we lived west of town I tried so hard to catch the red winged blackbirds in flight as they would swoop one direction... hundreds of them in formation... & as they would change directions the red would show up so pretty.. Never got a good photo but now I do have some that spend the summer down along the river bank & even come eat out of the feeder that I can see from my kitchen window. I wish I had had one of the cameras that can zoom in so close long ago... don't make them anymore but not terribly expensive & something I can use without a whole lot of "hiking". This isn't the place to talk cameras, but sounds like you would enjoy a camera that you don't have to change lens, etc... not one the professionals use but I love it, my entertainment.

Guess I'd better get moving, laundry to do & nothing to show for my day so far. Hope everyone has a good day with lots of smiles.   I remember, a persimmon tree!

Gloria de, sure wish you had one of these cameras to show us your birds, we used to have an active Photo discussion but some have lost interest, I guess. We had fish as well, but not as often during the war, plenty of squirrels got fried. Mom insisted Dad only shoot the young ones. Not sure I could eat one these days but was good back then.

My neighbor that going in for knee surgery to morrow took me shopping, as she also will not be out for a few weeks. I walked up and down each isle, and bought a lot of stuff.  Had to stock up on cookies and hard candy you know!!! ::)

what I came in to tell you I did take pictures of Groundhog eating on my back deck.  I call him Glenwood Willie. He Also makes me mad as he pulls the siding off the bottom of my deck to sleep

A good Monday HELLO.

Sun is out today and it will be fairly warm, but the winds yesterday and today are really strong.  We drove over to Son Brian's yesterday to enjoy a nice bbq rib meal yesterday and watch the Super Boring Bowl. The company was wonderful and the food was superb, but the only enjoyable part of the gam to me was Gladys Knight singing.  She did a wonderful job and I really enjoyed it.  Half time shows are always suited for the younger generation, so they are nothing to even look forward to.  A couple of the commercials were cute, but most of them had us looking at each other with a perplexed look on our faces.  I have to agree with  you PHYLLIS, no matter what people think of Tom Brady he is a excellent quarterback.

Dr. Dave called a bit ago to tell us it is confirmed from the pathology report the cancer Michele has now is associated to her colon cancer,  This conformation was expected, but until it was confirmed by the pathology report it was not certain.  The steroid meds have her quite anxious and very tired at the same time, so they chose as a family to stay at home and have family time yesterday.  🎼ONE DAY AT A TIME, SWEET JESUS🎼
Thanks be to all of you for your continued positive thoughts and prayers.

I do not know if I mentioned it, but Bob has been dealing with gout again in his big toe....the bad part is he is on medication that is suppose to keep it from happening, so clearly it is not working.  I know we need to call the doctor, but he is dragging his feet.  Very lightly of course cuz it hurts his BIG TOE🤪🤣😂😂

I enjoyed reading about the RED winged Black Birds, PHYLLIS  and SHIRLEY, and your ground hog story, GLORIA de.  That Glenwood Willie sounds like he is quite destructive!  Bad boy!  I have to ask, why the name Glenwood?  GLORIA de, I worry about you....when your neighbor is in for surgery and recooperating  who will be able to help you out?

JANE, did your son get your kitchen drawer fixed for you?  Hope so, so there are NO more droopy drawers for you!

LARRY, Mark did have to cancel the tournament as the course is just soggy as can be.  They love the moisture, and there is more on the way, but it does cause other issues.  Sure makes me happy to read that you are feeling more like your old self!

SHIRLEY, your post about feeling a bit weird has me concerned for you, so I am happy to read that you are going to get some things checked out.  BTW, we are soaking Bob's foot in Epsom Salts, of course!

I must run, I have more to say, but I must stop taking up all the space and telling about ME this and ME THAT! Sorry🤣🤣

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND!

Jenn

Hi Everyone.  I have had a nice rest after my busy morning and so now have the time to go back and read what was shared since I posted yesterday.

Amy, glad seeing the bald eagles made your miserable drive more acceptable.  Thirty degree temperature and rain sounds like a recipe for more icing up your way.

Lloyd, I am sure you welcomed the warm weather yesterday.  It sounds like you need to make another Florida trip to go fishing on the ocean.  Hope you were able to work in your workshop today.

Jane, our soil is so sandy and clay like that we really don't have problems with mud and ruts.  I have had enough of that in other places we have lived. I hope you had short lines and smiling customers today.

Gloria, I don't think I have ever tasted sassafras.  Brady says he had no intention of retiring even had that Patriots lost last night.  It really wasn't a very good game.  I agree with you that I wouldn't want to catch an eel but no chance of that as they didn't grow in the rivers and ponds in Missouri or other places I have lived.  Of course, I have never liked to fish.

Sandy, what football team do you pull for?  I really didn't care who won the game but would have liked to see more scoring to have made it more interesting.  If I recall correctly the refs didn't have to resort to instant replay about calls all of the game, which is very unusual.  They should have been the cream of the crop refs as that is quite an honor for them as well and is based on performance.

Phyllis, like you we will begin to see some of the first signs of spring this month also but haven't noticed any yet.

Lindancer, rent and other increases seem to be pretty much an annual event.  Each time I get the coupon book for our Home Owner's Assoc. I expect to see an increase but that hasn't happened the 4 years we have lived here.  Fish and sea food were just not a part of our diets growing up in the Midwest and Pat and I don't eat much fish but do like some fish and some of the sea food.  It sounds like you stocked up on the essentials as one doesn't like to run out of cookies and hard candy.  :)

Shirley, I can relate to doctor appointment being a part of social life.  If we didn't attend Church we really wouldn't have a social life here.  We have always created our circle of friends around Church and the people I have worked with.  I remember us having squirrel and rabbit and an occasional racoon to eat.

Jenny, I think many people also found the Super Bowl to be pretty boring and I saw the TV viewership was way down.  I thought the best commercials were the Verizon ones that honored the first responders.  I did see one Budweiser commercial with the horses and the dog that was nice.  So sorry that the test results showed cancer for Michele.  You are right all we can do it take things One Day at a Time and aren't we glad that we don't know what tomorrow brings.  I hope the doctor can find something else to help Bob with the gout problem.  Is he able to stand wearing shoes?

I am  here. and I am a happy camper. Had a good phone call from my son Gary. My Dr is back from a weeks vacation, and saw the results of my CT scan, and has decided I am eligeable for hospice. She told my son she feels I am intelligent and able to make my own decisions, and that is what I want. I have a have a growth on my lung, and I refuse surgery and I refuse hospitalization. God is in charge of my life and I am content. I feel a new freedom in my life, and I am very happy.

We didn't get but a spot  or two of rain early today, but more is forecast for tonite and tomorrow. I hope.

My breathing machine is waiting for me to use it, so off I go. June

June, I am sad that you have a growth in your lung and are ready to accept hospice..... but I am also praying that you will still have years to visit with us. My high school friend that we threw a party for about 3 years ago, when he was given 6 months to live.... had ATTITUDE that I am convinced, keeps him going... and I see it in you. Doesn't mean we can't pray for you to have a longer life, but that you also are at peace and pain free. You have shown us how to dance with the walker and wiggle the booty to a good tune, we do love you and your spirit. I feel sure you dreaded bringing this news to us, thank you for trusting us. Hugs from me to you.

Tisie, (Shirley, for others, but Tisie to me.

I was happy to relate the finding of my CT scan, and my acceptance of the result. I meant it to be an encouraging message to others that may need it, like our Jenny and her family. I think her DIL would understand, hopefully. How I pray for her healing though. She is so young with a young family. I thank God Her husband is a
Dr. and will be able to help her. G0d is with them all.

My DIL cannot come down from Mass. as she has been quite sick as I said before with shingle still on her face and head.  One more time I will say my prays and thought are with yo and your whole family.
I live in Glenwood Village,so that is why I call the groundhog that name. In the warm weather if I am out reading the paper, he comes and looks at me Good Night

Gloira de, your poor DIL.....how painful that is. Prayers for all as you must be worried about her .

Jenny, not the news one wants to hear but at least you do know. Michele  has a great team with her and she is a fighter!!

Hello Everyfriend!  I have much to be thankful for today!

JUNE, you are my inspiration!  You take life and you make the best of it no matter what!  I hope I have that same attitude and that I can accept God's will as calmly as you do.  He is surely by your side every moment of your life.  I'm sure He looks at you with LOVE!

JENNY, Michele is in my prayers daily!  She has so much to live for and she is doing such  good job of living!  I know God will protect her and love her and give her what is best for her and her family.  She must be so special to all of you!

Life interfered and my son did not get here to fix the drawers.  But he will!  I lack patience and I have to learn to find it and make use of it.  My mother used to say, "When Jane wants something done, she wants it done NOW!" And she was right.  I have a very hard time waiting for anything!  But I'm learning!

GloriaDE, don't be afraid to tell people when you need help.  Now I'm telling you to do something that I have a hard time doing.  But mostly, people are willing to help if they know you need it.  And now there are grocery stores that deliver.

I'm going to wish you all good night now because I probably will forget to come by later.  Sleep well, wake refreshed and may God bless us, every one!

June, I am so sorry you have that diagnosis, however, I do know that Hospice will keep you comfortable.  I wonder if the spot on your lung contributed to your being told you still had pneumonia, or they wanted to have your doctor read the x-rays to be sure.  Regardless, thoughts and prayers are with you from me.  You have a while yet, but I hope you see #95.

Speaking of #95, Gloria de is having a birthday this month - the 12th?  (I really do not know).

I'm happy for you that you have your sons relatively close by.

Good morning everyone, already 38°, hard to believe when a week ago we were in the deep freeze. It was a wonderful sunny day yesterday and I did go out and enjoy it. Supposed to be even warmer today and I will get out and enjoy it.

PHYLLIS  yes Brady is talented but on local news you might think he as the whole team. He is very competitive and hates losing.

GLORIA  de  my Mom used to cook eels and I liked them when I was young but now just the thought of how they look I would not want them. You have Stop & Shop markets near you and if you cannot get there you can order from Peapod for delivery. I have done that often since that started here.

SHIRLEY  would that be quince that pucker your mouth in not ripe? Ever eat green concord grapes? now that sure puckers a mouth. When we had our house we could not see any other ones. Now on both sides and across the road there are houses. Seems like all the privacy is gone in this town.

JENNY that darn cancer. How I pray they can finally come up with something to knock it out of happening to anyone again. Hope Bob's toes feel better PDQ.

LARRY  the eel I caught was salt water, we were out on the Atlantic. My Dad used to catch fresh water ones but they were not as big.

JUNE 2 years ago I tried to talk to my oldest son about my passing and he did not want to hear it. When he was here last Sunday we finally talked about it.  First thing on the list is DNR. No being kept alive on machines so doctors and hospitals can make more money. That is no life anyway. I had talked to my daughter several times about it but she is too far away to do much for me. My other son refuses to hear anything about when I am no longer here. Prayers for you my friend and many years with us still.

JANE  I am lucky my CNA loves shopping and I send her to the market at times and if I need a lot of groceries I go online to Peapod and order what I need, some things they might not have, but usually get everything. They deliver right into my apartment.

Have a good day, hugs and prayers for everyone.

Good Morning Friends!  Mickie had an urgent call around 4:45 this morning so we all trooped to the door and the doggies went out and did what was necessary.  When they came back in we all crashed on the sofa until the alarm went off at 7.  We've had a decent breakfast and I have my coffee to have in the Soda Shoppe with my friends.

Today is a paper work day until I go to the eye dr. at 3:30 this afternoon.  It's just a checkup and one test....I think!

I have my final (whatever) in writing and my daughter has a copy of it as does my doctor and my church.  I didn't want any doubt or discussion when the time comes and this way everyone knows what I want!

LLoyd, do you ever sell any of your recipe boxes?  They sound lovely!

And I better get started on the paper work now or I'll be putting it off again. Enjoy the nice weather while it's here! It's a GIFT!

Good morning everyone..

Windy here and the rain has stopped. I think after the VON has gone I will take the snow rake and get the snow off the work/storage trailer and an out building.

Jane, I was out at 4:30 with both dogs and went right back to bed. Lott'sa fun being out at the time with the wind howling in ones night gown :)

Lloyd, I hope you can accomplish what you want today.

Gloria, when Mom was in Holland  she was enjoying a dish till someone said she was eating eel and that ended that!!

Since I slept in I had better go get ready and get things out for VON.

Prayers for all.

Enjoy your day

Hi Everyone. It is a beautiful sunny and pleasant temperature day.  I was late getting up this morning as didn't sleep well last night even though I got a lot of rest.  Our calendar is clear for today so think later today Pat and I will go to Walmart and get our last Shingles shot if they have the serum.  Pat also needs to pick up some prescriptions.  I hope to get an afternoon nap.

June, I am glad you are the one who gets to make the decision about accepting Hospice care and that doesn't fall on your sons to handle for you.  My daughter also did the same for us for which I was grateful.  Hospice is a fine organization.  I am so glad you find peace in your decision and hope it will make the remainder of your life (and we all hope that is still a long time) easier.

Shirley, I certainly second your comments to June.  Attitude is so important and being content with our decisions is a big step in attitude.

Lloyd, it sounds like you had a full day and often what we plan is not what we accomplish.  I hope you are talking about cold weather and not cold as an illness.  It sounds like you are also artistic with your free hand carving on the recipe boxes.  You have so many talents and skills.

Lindancer, I hope your DIL will soon be through with the Shingles and will be able to come down to see you.  You are fortunate to have such good and caring neighbors.  I hope you were able to get a good nights sleep and are less tired today.  It isn't fun getting up in the morning already tired as it makes for a long day.

Amy, I sure hope you are not iced in this morning and that you also had a good night's sleep.  It sounds like the little pup wore himself out yesterday and hope he also sleep through the night so you didn't have to get up and let him outside. It is interesting how we make up our minds about certain foods and reject even something that may taste good until we know what it is.

Jane, I am a lot like you in not being very patient as when I make up my mind about something I want to get it accomplished.  I have never been one to window shop as find something satisfactory and that it that.  We can't expect people to know we need help if we don't let them know.  They cannot read our minds.  However, I expect that is something we all are prone to do as we don't want to bother someone else.  The Bible tells us it is "more Blessed to Give than Receive" and don't we feel good when we can help someone else.  I am not sure we have any grocery stores that actually deliver but the online ordering and then just picking up the order is sure a wonderful thing.  I hope your paperwork goes well today.

Gloria, so happy you were able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air yesterday.  I bet that boosted your morale.  While the quarterback in football or the point guard in basketball are vital to the team they would be worthless without the rest of the team.  I don't think we have Peapod for grocery delivery.  We are getting some delivery services for restaurant orders.  However, a couple of days ago I checked out one of the local ones and they don't serve the area where we live.  I didn't realize there were fresh water eels. I am sorry that your sons have been hesitate to discuss end of life issues.  I think it takes some of the burden off at the time we reach the end of life when our family knows our wishes.  I know it did with my folks.  I know it was a shock when the Hospice nurse called me out of the blue saying she was headed my way to sign a DNR order for our daughter.  I shed some tears and then did what I knew she would want as her fight was over and she had a long one.  I am glad that at least your older son has now agreed to discuss this matter with you.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for February 1, 2019
Post by: Shirley on February 05, 2019, 03:52:08 PM
Larry, my heart skipped a beat when you mentioned the Hospice nurse called you about the DNR. I do need to take care of the legal papers but have told my kids my wishes (same as most in here), but I do want them to all agree when that time comes, not one having to carry the burden if there is a time question. I do want to make the choice of "being starved to death" versus no machines breathing for me. In my mother's case the nurse had missed the vein for the IV nourishment. When the next nurse on duty lifted Mom's arm the skin sagged to the bed with the fluid that was supposed to have been giving her nourishment. We did not do it deliberately. When Dad was dying my sister chose NO IV nourishment and that still bothers me. I was not there at the time and didn't know she made that choice.... I could not have. Better I wasn't there as she was the one in charge.  My husband's mother made the choice of having a stomach pump put in while in the hospital and then checked out to go home with Hospice. She had an agonizing death, the morphine she was given had no effect and she literally dehydrated. The Hospice nurse explained to me that after the first Ativan under her tongue that seemed to give her such peace, "she didn't have enough moisture in her mouth to dissolve another." That was a lot of years ago and it still haunts me. Don't like to talk about these situations, I sure never knew it could be so complicated.

June, I do understand your relief that the decision is made when confronted with the diagnosis... I have appointments the middle of this month that should let me know if I need to change my diet or need some kind of vitamin or supplements, or if there is a more serious problem such as heart blockages, etc. heart valve.  GP & Ophthalmologist appointments set. If they find nothing wrong, then it must be in my head or just plain lazy. I'm voting for the last opinion. I do want to know what I'm dealing with and face it head on, like you, June. Thanks to all of you a little older, you set good examples to follow.  :smitten:

Winter has smacked us so hard the cats walk out the door & spin around & want right back in. I'm so tired of cleaning litter boxes, I even walked out into the grass to encourage them but they stood by the door.  :-\  We had a lot of wrecks with freezing drizzle this morning but I had no problem getting to the tax man's office.

I get so angry at the taxes paid, nobody did without to save this money but 2 of us, why should I want to share with people that didn't do the extra work we did to make it?! Where is that fair? I know it's important to maintain streets/highways & all the schools, etc. but if everyone wants to share equally, let's share the work. I liked the idea of the WPA that gave people work to do for food. And this doesn't belong in here.... but was part of my day.  :tissue:  :angry2:  :sealedlips:

I'm back from the eye dr and my eyes are still dilated so I can't really see what I'm typing unless I squint.  If I make mistakes just overlook it this time.  I wanted to tell SHIRLEY that I agree with every word in her last paragraph.  I've also been heard to say that if we are still living when our grandchildren have graduated from the lockal school district, we shouldn't have to pay school tax any more.  We've done our duty.  We've supported them from more years than you can shake a stick at and it's our turn for some recognition.  The school district is about 8 times the size it was when I graduatedand I don't really think it needs my support any more.

I just picked up my phone and someone wanted to know if I realized that the warranty had expired and would I be interested in renewing throught their service.  When I told her I knew my warranty had expired because my car is 20 years old. she hung up on me.   :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny:

I figured it was about time that I contributed to this fine forum instead of languishing in the background; although I follow the posts quite dilligently.  Like most of you I've been confronting this terrible cold snap but forunately I've been able to avoid going ouside until last Thursday and when I did it was a cold shock that almost cut me in half.

There hasn't been a lot going on here in the residence, but last week there was a power failure around 8 o'clock that lasted about 2 hours. There was nothing to do so I went to bed and about half an hour later I was awakened by the night nurse who, along with the entire staff circulated the entire building to make sure all of the residents were okay. That kind of care is very reassuring.  The one thing about this place that stands out is the attention they pay to keeping the residents active and involved. Every day there is some actvity going on. A new resident who just moved in has made it her life mission to get me to write the story of my life which for some reason she finds interesting. So we'll see how that shakes out.

I guess the biggest accomplishment is that my boys and financial advisor have got my financial house in order. They have set up an annuity that will ensure my rent will be paid until I die, so I have peace of mind for the rest of my life. That's a good feeling and I can sleep easy starting now. Good night all.

Amy, It was the CT scan that showed an actual Lump on the lung, and they do not know what it is without a biopsy, and I refuse that. So it is not scar tissue. I am content, dear. Have had a good long life.

Janie, thank you my loving friend. I feel as you do for Michele.....so much to live for, and I pray God makes it happen.

Mary Ann,Yes Gloria de does have a Big Birthday coming up, and I hope she has many more.

Gloria, I have had a DNR for years now. I have it pasted on the wall by my door as suggested by someone......it is in that area so the paramedics see it as they leave my home. I got mine from the doctor, and as far as I know it is the easiest way to go. In fact, it is the only way I know. Your sons don't have to be involved...it is YOUR wish to have it.

Gary called and said a lady, Rowena, from Hospice will be coming by between 5 and 5:30 to have me sign some papers, so I am eager to meet her, and find out more if anything I should know.

Lloyd, congratulations on being a carver. That is a fine Art to have. I was given a box from my Uncle years ago that he made from a tree limb. It is round of course, hollowed out, then he glued on a base, Made a round lid, with a little round knob to open it. I value it, because her was my favorite Uncle..so kind.

It is getting close to five p.m. so I will get this posted. June

Jane, I get to visit the eye doctor in less than 2 weeks, know he will be pushing for cataract removal but I'm not convinced I'm ready. Not sure it will improve more than screw up. The warning that "I may need glasses to read after".... when I don't need them NOW.... so what is it I am gaining? I still won't want to drive after dark, in the back of my mind, I remember cars breaking down & not a good thing after dark!

I'm still on that "over the top" mode after paying taxes on some I-bonds I cashed a couple months ago.... Feds got a big chunk of that interest money that we pinched pennies to invest for these later years. Why bother saving if they get such a big chunk, might as well put it in the mattress & at least I won't be bothered with paper work!  Off the soapbox, need to wind down. I hear some states have a lid on school & property taxes... I know Kansas changed some laws about death & inheritance taxes because people were leaving the state. We knew people that established residency in other states before taking the "retirement package"....
I haven't had a human on the other end of any sales calls for a long time.

Lloyd, I sure would love to see photos of the recipe boxes when you get them done. Besides, the Photos discussion needs pictures posted to keep going. My husband made me some wooden purses when they were a fad.... I've given them to the kids now, but they were neat. One of them I painted a scene of our family out camping, the boys & Cas fishing & my daughter & I at the camp fire cooking, even had the dog & a bird cage. On the other side I had a cartoon type character of me with paintbrush in hand & canvas on an easel... One winter Cas made bird feeders or houses for everyone and then he got into making "custom" golf clubs. Even had a couple of the pros around here ask where he got his supplies. Like you, he did it for his own pleasure & satisfaction.

Gloria, I missed my chance to get outside...doesn't look like it will warm up again in the week ahead. Bitter cold, chill index really has a bite to it with the wind.

June, that reminds me when I went to a new doctor years ago & he insisted on a complete going over. When I went back the next week for the results of all the tests, he explained that he had taken my X-ray for his doctor father & brother to look at because of a "spot on my lung". I explained & then showed him what it was, from a drain hanging out of my lung when I was 2 years old & had pneumonia/empyema surgery. The tissue still is connected between the ribs to the lung. I felt it pull when pregnant & gained weight. 3 doctors couldn't figure what it was. I'll keep the prayers going, we never know what God has planned for us so don't give up the exercising just yet!

Great to see you, Don... and I totally agree that you need to write your bio. Hope you will post some tidbits as you do. When my mother wrote hers, she would tell about every detail of one day. She was surprised how many details WE would never have known about when she was finished.  Instead of trying to remember the dates, I had her put how old she was when the activity happened. I put the dates in order when I did the re-write & continuity. Took me one whole winter to shuffle the papers... that was the advantage of putting it on loose leaf notebook paper. Should be easier with a computer.

I'm going to bed.  My eyes are still bothering me from the dilation and maybe if I sleep on it, they'll be betterin the morning.

SHIRLEY, when I had the cataracts removed the big thing I noticed was the colors.  I hadn't realized how dull the colors were until I saw how bright they were without the cataracts.  That whole summer, every time I took the dog out or opened the door to let her out, I just stood there looking around.  It was an amazing feeling!

DON, I think you should write your memoirs, too!  And hurry up so I can still read when they come out!

Good night my friends.  Sleep well, wake refreshed and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

We made it to 5:30 am with not having to go out for a potty break!! Jesse is doing better.

Kyle wanted to head to the barber today but the weather is not going to be nice ,more freezing rain on the way so we are staying put.

I may try to get some sewing done today, I have been rather lax at it. I can bring a sewing machine upstairs and can watch the pup too.

June, thank you for the explanation. I too, have a DNR..please don't keep me on a machine. I have no fear on going home.

Jane, we go in March to get our eyes tested and at the last appointment I told the Dr. if he needs to dilate my eyes we will just stay in the mall till I can see alright. Shame to have to shop but I will try. :)

Don, you folks are also in for some nasty weather, freezing rain coming your way. Here we may get some but more prone to getting snow. I also agree with writing your memoires , we tried to get a friend to write his of the war but it just wasn't done. He could tell you stories that made you laugh and one that would make you cry.

Lloyd, hope you can post photos of the jewellery boxes.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My eyes have cleared up as much as they are going to but he gave me a bit of bad news yesterday.  While they are keeping the pressure from the glaucoma down, the vision in my left eye is getting worse.  I asked him how long it might be until I have to give up driving completely and he said, "There's no way of telling'.  I guess I'm in a "wait and see" mode.

It's almost time to feed the doggies (and their "mother") so I will wish you all a good day.  Make it your own in every way!  Do what pleases you the most.  You've earned that right!

Hi Everyone. We are to have another 76 degree day here with only a small chance of rain late this afternoon.  Pat and were able to get our second and final Shingles shots yesterday afternoon.  They were very busy so we had to wait quite awhile but we wanted to get that over.  We then drove downtown and enjoyed a Chinese Buffet.  I have a friend who will be here to work with me and tonight is Wednesday night dinner at the Church and the opportunity to spend time with Scott.  It is the popular Taco night with the ice cream bar to follow.

Shirley, I have tried to think of everything I could to make the situation easier for my family on my demise.  Annually I update the information on bank accounts and other matters like passwords.  I also try to go through the documentation I have kept for the previous year and discard what I don't think will be needed.  Just this month I have taken the actions to consolidate our bank accounts from two credit unions to the one close to where we live.  I have never been able to understand why people want to bury their heads in the sand and not find out what is causing medical situations.  Please don't send that freezing drizzle our way.  I think I heard that in Kansas the unemployment rate is not 2%.  I don't ever remember hearing the rate being that low as usually 4% is considered full employment.  Like you I have lived long enough to have to cash in the savings bonds I purchased over the years and am now having to pay income taxes on the untaxed interest.

Jane, I haven't had to pay school taxes in either Georgia or South Carolina.  I know it was because I was permanently handicapped and income level.  Every governmental level will always need more money as enough is never enough.

Don, great to see  your very interesting posting.  I bet your life story will be very interesting.  Nice to read your are financially settled and won't have to worry about running out of money to pay for your lodgings.  It sounds like you live in a very fine place with a very attentive staff.

June, it is a great idea to post your DNR by your door.  I hope you got all your papers signed last night.  If I recall Stacey indicated there were quite a few of them.

Lloyd, it sounds like you have the equipment to help you with the chores.  My years on the farm were before they had the balers that made those big bales and there was a lot of back work required in the harvest and then when it came time to feed the cattle during the winter months.

Amy, I guess any excuse to shop in the mall will do.  :)

Larry not that it is easy I have worked hard to get where am with tools and equipment. i started out @ six years old, after my dad was murdered. mowing yards delivering papers and groceries to the older people in a small town of less than two hundred people. at seven years of age took on a job in a blacksmith shop cranking the hand blower to the forge. so the blacksmith could work two plow shares at the same time. at 7-8 years of age was welding points on plow shares and toe bar on work horse shoes and making horse shoes from bar stock. we are @ 25º and on and off again from lit rain and sleet or snow on the ice we already have. i don't have any ice skates any more, so wont be getting hurt that way. i can drive the 4 wheeler in to the shop next to the tractor get of of and on the other. go get a bale of hay on the un roller and stop with the frontend loader up in the air and dismount from the tractorholding on to it and open the gate.it swings clear so i can get back on the tractor back up and turn in to the lot where i feed. get off and cut the twine off role it up and get back on tractor and un role it.if it roles good,if not I drop it and turn around and un role it with the front end loader. have a good day everyone,

Lloyd

Good morning, boy did I get  a good sleep last night, woke at 9:30 and now having my first cup of coffee here in the SS. Hope I get to finish before my CNA gets here. Sun is shining and the sky a beautiful blue and 35°. Cold and rain/snow in the forecast for tomorrow. At least we had a break with a few warm sunny days in mid winter.

LLOYD  you make me wish I could order one of your fabulous recipe boxes. They sound beautiful. Something my daughter would treasure.

JANE  the last few days sure made us appreciate the winter break from the cold and snow/ice.

AMY  if the look, texture and taste seems good to ‎l at least try something new but if I don't like any of those I will not eat it.

MARY ANN  what  Gloria were you talking to?

LARRY  Peapod here is with Stop & Shop markets. The service is supposed to be nationwide. I know it is convenient for me.

SHIRLEY  I am with you on everything you said.

JANE  what burns me  is the illegals coming into our country get so much handed to them that we have worked all our lives for. I have been getting that  phone call about the warranty too. Let the machine get it and then just delete it. Yesterday I got a letter about the same thing and I laughed. My car went to the junk yard 10 years ago.

DON  so good  to see your post. That new lady who wants you to write a book, was she ever a member here? I think all of us here would love to read it. We have enjoyed your music and posts for a long time and miss you.

JUNE  here we have a plastic envelope with magnet on  one side of the fridge with our information on it.

SHIRLEY  this is supposed to be the last nice day because bad weather returns over night. I think most of us here have had cataract surgery, no big deal, only takes a few minutes and you might need glasses or not. I still need them but many never do and colors are brighter, you as an artist should like that.

Gloria Z, that message was for you.  I didn't go back further (it was far enough back to find my own message) to find what you said.  If you write your wishes and let your family know them (in writing), it can prevent some hard feelings, not that there would be any with your family.

To me, you are Gloria, and when I address the other Gloria, she is Gloria de.  I can always add a Z for you.

June, we were told to hang everything on the refrigerator including drug list, DNR(mine says State  of NY non hospital)another one has to be signed in the hospital also I have medical order of life sustaining treatment. I was told I would have to sign again in the hospital  NY state law.  That is where the police look, when they come in.

Good afternoon.  Got busy this morning and forgot about coming in here.

Good thoughts go out to June.  She is a special lady and I admire her for her way of handling her life.  Hope she will have many more years with us.

Jane, do hope your eyes have cleared up by now and you are having a good day.

Nothing much happening around my little piece of the world. Kind of a dreary day after a sunny morning. And, it is starting to get cold again.

I have not had any lunch yet, and I see it is almost getting around to dinner time.  So, I probably will grab a little snack to hold me off until dinnertime.

I did play cards last night and as usual, we did not win. I just keep telling my partner that it is only a game.  There was another group playing cards last night.  It was nice to see some new faces enjoying their selves. Plus another group who were making up Valentine decorations. Have not seen that much activity in the lounge for a good while.  The activity gal is trying very hard to get more people interested in doing some of the activities.

I just wanted to say "HI !, so I will quietly get on with my day.

Have a enjoyable evening.

Good afternoon, Everyfriend,

Oklahoma weather!!!  ::)  Possible tornadoes in the southeast part and freezing temps in the northwest/northern part.  OKC area is on the border line of this front that keeps moving back and forth so we're completely fogged in and could go either way.

I have magnetized folder on the side of the fridge with health info in it - but had not thought about putting a copy of the DNR in there.  Thanks for the suggestion, Gloria de!

Jenny,  I am praying that you and your family will be granted strength, courage and peace with the various issues happening to loved ones.

June, my dear friend....you are a courageous lady and I'm sure you will remain so under the change in your circumstances.

Janie, gentle hugs about your vision issues.  My opthomologist is keeping an eye on (sorry - bad pun...shame on you, Callie :noway: ) pressure because I'm "heir" to glaucoma.

Shirley,  have you noticed a yellow tinge to everything?  That's one sign cataracts are "ripe" for removal. After the first one was done, I couldn't believe the difference between that one and the one that would be done a couple of weeks later.  I opted not to have lens correction because I'd worn glasses since 5th grade and was fine with keeping them.
BTW,  my opthomologist's patients get a big warm muffin and their choice of coffee, tea or juice during the wait time after the surgery.  You might suggest that to yours.  ;)

Don,  the idea of sharing your Life Story is an excellent one.  If you don't feel up to writing it down, may I suggest you record it in some way.  A plus for that method is that your voice will also be a part of the story.  I cherish taped conversations with my mother, Mother and her sister together, as well as one with my Dad's sister.  Will forever regret I didn't think of doing this while my Dad was still alive.
Super that your sons have set up the annuity for your rent payment. What a good idea!

Sure were a lot of things crossed out because of weather on the January calendar. Not much on the February page yet - but I hope what's there won't be the same.

 and  :hugs: to Everyfriend.

What a mixed bag of weather we have had today. This morning there was a beautiful red/pink sky and we knew then what was to come. First snow, not much and then into the rain, after the rain came freezing drizzle.......then rain again. Tomorrow sounds like a replay of today only with high winds in the evening.

I managed to square up some blocks to be sewn , hope there is enough to make a quilt! Feels good to get back into the "mood" to quilt again. I have so many projects that need to be done. One a bear that I started and needs finishing but I think these other quilts will take precedence .

AMY, your red sky reminded me of the old saying...

Red sky in the morning
Sailors take warning!

Red sky at night
Sailors Delight!

It almost always proved true when we were camping with the Girl Scouts

CALLIE, thanks for the sympathic words about my eyes.  As long as the one continues to be good, I can manage.  But I thought there might be more to be done for the bad one.  Maybe, there will be research!  One can hope!

My daughter and granddaughter are here and they've gone to bed so that's where I'm headed, too.  Sleep well my friends and may God bless us, every one!

I've come to read, think, type a long post but didn't post, several times today.... trying not to get too opinionated about these taxes.  :coolsmiley:

Larry, you are like Cas was, trying to dot the iiiiis & cross the tttttts.... but in our case the money was not the same after he died, but the bills were. After all said & done I discovered that I manage just fine with my "in" come. I still pinch pennies & use coupons & buy gift cards to get the gas discounts, but I wanted to cash the I-bonds because they don't list beneficiaries & know it is easier for me to cash than it would be for the kids. Once the cash is in my hands the government doesn't need to know how I spend it, they got their share off the top. The CDs are all listed with Pay on Death... we each had wills made years ago by a good lawyer. My objection is I don't see the need for a "trust" when I have a will, but so far have not gotten a rational reason why trusts are so necessary. Every time I turn around someone is sure I will be leaving a mess without a trust, because "a will must go through probate". Still nobody can explain the difference. Heirs will have to make sure there's no outstanding bills before settling the estate... even with a trust that has to be done, only a lawyer will probably handle it instead of the executer of the will. I trust that my 3 kids can handle dividing the property, etc. I've spent a life time of doing everything ourselves & fur goes up to be told I gotta wear a blindfold at the end. I know I am being pig headed but am good at that.  :coolsmiley:

Callie, we do have some nasty weather & same for tomorrow. Lots of accidents today from freezing rain & fog. I have to get out tomorrow because the cats need their chicken... and I need a change of scenery. Hopefully the sun will come out to melt the streets, didn't happen today. Truthfully I can't believe my cataracts are that bad, no yellow tinge & only the distance blur has gotten closer. Used to be that glasses weren't needed "within a block", only far distance. Now I wear some old (weaker) ones around the house so no blur when looking out the windows. I have to take them off to read. I know I'm chicken.....that yellow tinge is running down my back.  :uglystupid2:

Now it's bedtime & I am ready, cats fed their midnight snack & all asleep, either laying on or in front of a furnace vent. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

You popped in, Janie, & hearing your eye news has me concerned for you & for me. So sorry your vision is worse, that absolutely scares me more than anything. I have not found a doctor that can "fit" my glasses like the one that retired 30 years ago. He nailed it right off and ever since I've not been able to see as well with what they prescribe. Good Heavens, I hear thunder, even lightning & hail or freezing rain so loud it woke cats up. I'm going to bed & pull the covers over my head.

posting late tonight.....better late than never I suppose.

Yesterday we spent time with Michele.  She looks wonderful and continues to be so thankful for the issue that made her know that something was wrong. She looks forward to seeing the oncologist on Friday to learn what his plan will be for her.  At times she gets anxious and her mind goes where she does not want it to be, but manages to talk herself into being thankful and very positive again.  Last night we attended a gathering put on by the local chamber of commerce last evening.  We signed up a month or so ago.  It was a very well organized discussion regarding finding yourself suddenly independent, either from death, divorce or the like.  We found that we are pretty organized and prepared in the event that this would happen to us.  It also included aging parents and what we should know in case of them becoming incapacitated.  It covered children or grandchildren that are underage and what their needs might be if the parents are taken out of their lives.  These are all sad thoughts to have to deal with, but we learned things that we did not know so we happy to get the insight from these professionals.

Bob's toe is much better today but I am having weakness in my right wrist that hurts pretty badly when I try to use it🤣🤣🤣. I can not pick anything up with it and have a brace on it.  It has taken me quite a bit of time to type this, so I guess I will give up for tonight.  It snowed all day and is really cold out there tonight.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

Good morning everyone...

Wow slept through the night! This little one is getting better each day. Will tidy up and throw an apple pie in to cook for supper tonight.

Good morning roley, good to "see"  you this morning. Enjoy your armchair walk.

Jenny, sorry to hear of your sore wrist. we use our hands so much in daily use that when one is sore it really puts a stop on our work.
Good to hear Michele has a positive attitude plus she has a great cheering team in all of you. Now to hear good news on your Dad.

Shirley, you have NO yellow tinge down your back. My goodness you tackle everything and anything in your life. Let's use the word apprehensive. :)

Larry, this is a huge mall compared to the little stores we have here and don't forget my eyes would be blurry for a bit. They also have a food court to grab a meal or a cuppa tea/coffee if wanted.

Jane, I have used that saying also in farming it was a guide on do I or do I not knock some hay down today? Have fun with your daughter and granddaughter!

Gloria, one food I couldn't enjoy was vegetable marrow. ewww. I like most everything else that I can eat.

Joy, sounds like you had a great time at cards. Winning is nice but fellowship is greater.

Lloyd, I would love to go skating but if something should happen  to me eg break a bone who would look after my husband? So no skating  :(

I had better get going. Prayers and hugs for all.

Everyone enjoy your day..

good Morning everyone. It is 24º here now the weather guesser is saying we will have sun today but still dark and clouded. well as the old saying goes if you do  not like the weather here weight a short while the changes may be in your fever. I turned the deck light on and looked out, Looks like we got some more sleet and a slight bit of snow on the Ice. Nancy has the TV on and the broadcaster is saying we are going to get more ice and or freezing rain  what is the (deference) ? I am going feed the cattle after a while and come in and crack and pick out some more black walnuts meats.yesterday I got a little over a cup picked out.too cold to work in the shop. I will take pictures of the boxes and get help to post them when the weather gets good enough to get grand daughter over to help me. I still have a picture of the Christmas cacti on the tool bar to show you all also.

Good morning everyone, 32° just at the freezing point and it has been raining since about 8 last night. Could hear it hitting the windows. The cars look like they are moving right along on the road so hopefully the roads are not icy.

MARY ANN  it does get confusing having 2 Glorias here. Some just use the name with no difference. I know many use the de for Gloria on Long Island, mine has island but a Rhode before it. My family does all know my wishes and will do as I want. I do not want money spent on things when it is a waste to me.

GLORIA de  like you our information is on the side of the fridge and that is where they look after seeing the person in need of help. Every year they have a meeting here with the fire and police ‪ departments. They give us a new paper every year to update meds.

JOY  wish they would have more activities going on here. All they have is Bingo on Wednesday evening. I do not like bingo and never did.

AMY  at least it is not windy here and not below freezing. This is the coldest part of the state in the winter, we also get the most snow.

JANE  we take eyesight for granted when we are young but treasure it as we age. My Mother was going blind from her diabetes and that bothered her more than anything because she loved to read.

SHIRLEY  I never had a problem with glasses with my old eye doctor. After he sold his practice to retire the young ones that took over had all the machines that told them what I see. Never had a pair I could see right. Finally started going to a partner of the one I liked. He looked at a pair of my old ones I brought with me. Those machines had the line for the bifocals in the wrong place and cut into my vision. Now I get them the right way. So much for the modern machines. The one I have now has machines but he knows how to use his own eyes to see things first.

JENNY  so good that Michele has a good outlook. That is good.

AMY  there are some foods I just will not eat, like tripe on liver. Allergic to raw onions, too. Know nothing about vegetable marrow, never heard of it.

Have a god day.

our grange is a two car on the north end of the house. both doors were froze down the electric openers would not open them so I got a shovel an stuck it under them one at a time and pushed down it. that done the trick. I left the one behind the car up about a 1/4" and opened the one behind my 4 wheller up all the way so can ride it down to get tractor to feed cattle with, Have a great day,

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be a quick posting.  My girls have gone out to do an errand but I don't think it will take them very long.  If they come back, I'll just post and be gone.  We have so little time to spend together that I have come to cheish it.

SHIRLEY, I agree with AMY...no yellow streak down your back.  You'll try anything once...except maybe cataract surgery and that has nothing to do with bravery.  It's a decision we make.  For me, it was a good one because what I see is not shadowed any more.  And I already had the glaucoma starting before the cataracts.

JENNY, I continue to keep Michele in my prayers.  She is one special lady and as someone pointed out, she has a great cheering section in all of you!

GLORIA and GLORIA DE,  that's how I make the difference too.

I think I'll go take care of my toilette while the girls are gone.  I'll be able to get in whichever bathroom I want! Enjoy your day!

Lloyd, glad you mentioned the garage doors because mine also face north & will probably be frozen shut. I planned to get out today so will check before getting too excited about seeing the world!  The doors never see the sun the way the house sits so won't thaw out on their own. We had a thunderstorm with thunder & lightning about bedtime, the sleet was so loud it woke up the cats. TomCat is so afraid of storms he won't leave my side so had 2 of them on my bed until they woke me up a little after 4:00 am thinking it was time to eat. We ate & I went back to bed.... tried to post then but internet went off & lost the post.

News this morning says we are not improving today so schools all shut down. Lots of working parents had to change plans, always a problem. The sun is bright so after a shower & wash my hair I'll take on the streets if I can get the garage door open. The weather doesn't scare me but letting anyone mess with my body sure does, for true, Amy!  That's from a movie long ago, anyone remember "A Trip for Margaret" or a war movie with Bing Crosby & very young Margaret O'Brian? It was a real tear jerker, she could cry big tears on demand, reviews said. I just tried to find it with Google but no luck, internet is slow to almost not moving this morning. Guess I'd better see if this will post before typing more.

Quite a messy day for all people that work outside, wonder if we will get mail???  Shirley (yes, June, there were other shirleys when I started out but nobody using my mother's nickname, "Tisie".  Can you imagine getting that nickname in first grade by a teacher that had trouble pronouncing her real name, "Palagie".... that's pronounced "Pa-la-gigi", and stuck throughout her life.)

You snuck in, Janie, got to agree the yellow streak is letting anyone mess with me, I am still daredevil enough to tackle  Mother Nature's tricks. I need to find out more about cataract surgery, Cas had a bad experience so I really am chicken.

Reading today's posts, there are several places I could reply or comment, so I won't and I'll spare everyone a new book.

We are having another icy morning.  Tom was going to sub teach at a school in Cedar Springs but so many schools are closed today, including where he was to teach.  I stay inside on days like this.  If I break something, it will be inside the house, not out on the sidewalk or street.

Good Morning Everyone,  from the cloudy,
cool, and windy,   but not icy cold,
rocky coast of Maine.

Just a note to say that all is well here
in my world,  and to remember all of the
brave people that we have here in
Seniors and Friends.   Many who
are suffering more then they let on,
but seem to be taking each day, one day
at a time,  and blessed for the good days,
hours, moments that we do have
as we pass through this life.

I try to be always grateful for the Good Times.

Still waiting for the Sunshine and trying to
remember that this is still only
February...  and we have a lot of Winter
left here in New England.

Smile...   ;D

SHIRLEY, I think that movie was called "Journey For Margaret".  And it was Bing Crosby.  And it was a tear jerker!

We did have a bit of freezing rain, not a lot but enough to cancel the school buses. Neighbour wanted to do some repairs on his skidoo in the garage so hubby put a fire on out there for him. He brought Rex over and Rex and the pup had a great play! He stayed for lunch of beef barley soup.I did make an apple pie but too hot to cut but he will be back tomorrow and can have some. While Rex was here I cut his nails for him.

Maybe tomorrow quilting will be done. The pup sure takes a lot of time and energy out of one. His paws are so big I can't imagine the size he will be full grown. A surprise in the waiting I guess.

Shirley, I totally understand about the body, due to a drunk for a dentist I have a fear of them. My dentist knows ,you put me higher than a kite or you don't get in my mouth.........and he does :)  My eyes are also another one. One time I was cutting wood with my chain saw and I got a wood chip in my eye. My neighbour happened to come for a visit that evening and said for me to put a flax seed in my eye and all would be well come morning. There was no way I was putting a flax seed in my eye, it felt like I had a tree in there and no way was I starting a seed garden. I guess we all have our druthers and I druther they didn't touch either place!.

Calling for snow on Fri....which is fine at least it sticks and tis not slippery!

Hi Everyone.  I have had a nice afternoon rest and now comfortably situated in my easy chair.  My doctor this morning basically told me I need to cut back on the few things I am able to do in terms of getting out and about.  She told me to stay home for a few weeks.  I guess I am sicker than I realized.  My main regret is I am going to have to miss Sunday School and Church and the Wednesday night dinners at Church.  I have made a decision that if and when I feel up to being more active I will probably only go to Sunday School because I can always listen to the full Church service on line and the two plus hours involved in attending both is really too much.  I am also going to have to give up my Thursday coffee group and a number of other things.  My doctor also referred me to a kidney specialist as I do have some serious kidney disease.  I will not bore you with any more details and I will adjust to these significant changes in my life although I am sort of in a state of shock as didn't realize my heart and kidneys were this bad. I will just take it as another phase of life and take it One Day at a Time.  My main concern is that this is going to put more strain on Pat.

Lloyd, I admire you greatly and know you have always been a very hard worker and you sure had to start young.  I worked hard on the farm but not while I was probably a teen.  I am glad you the equipment you need as learned a long time ago that having the right tool, and a good one, is the key to a lot of job.  I hope you and Nancy have had a good day.

Gloria, isn't it great to get a good night's sleep.  Your forecast for today didn't sound too nice.  We are having 80 degree weather here and I saw my first tree bloomed out this morning on the way to the doctor's office.  Of course, we usually get some colder weather and those little blossoms get frozen off.  We do need some freezing weather for the peach crop.  I just checked and the Peapod service is not available in our area.

Callie, for along time I had my medical history and medicines in a little  red folder on the side of the refrigerator.  Now I have all of that information on my phone but realize I need to put down the code to get into my phone and put it on the refrigerator or the data couldn't be accessed.  Of course, Pat is here and know my medical history.

Amy, it sounds like your weather days are a good time to get back to your quilting.

Jane, glad you glad you are getting to spend time with your daughter and granddaughter as know those are important times for you.

Shirley, the reduction in income that Pat will have when I die is of concern for me but thing with survivor annuity, her Social Security and our savings she should be OK.  I guess I won't be around to know.  My folks had a trust that probably saved their estate around $16,000 dollars over what probate would have been.  In South Carolina the attorney we saw when we moved here advised that probate isn't difficult here and that our wills were sufficient.  The trust made settling the estate very easy for my sister.

Jenny, glad to see that Michele has such a positive attitude.  Glad you found the seminar you attended helpful.  I hope I have everything well documented and will be reviewing it again, as I do each year, and have thought of a couple of things I don't have well documented and some passwords I need to get into Pat's Last Pass account.

Roley, I have been missing hour postings so glad you stopped by to say hello.

I haven't made many comments about today's postings but have run out of energy so will sign off for today.

Good late afternoon dear friends.
Amy when you got a puppy you just got yourself a new baby to love. Intern you will get a lot of love and affection back. Even though Taffy is a cat, I talk to her and she talks back, when you live alone you have to have a good reason to be seen talking. :)

Now Larry, please think positive, I just wrote this yesterday I think,The doctor didn't give my DIL any good news about me ever coming home again. She took my safe and my jewelry back t Mass. at my request, One big thing was renal failure 5 years later at 95 I still have the same problems plus circulation in my legs and feet. As my mother would say: When the time comes you are going to be at that place. I always wait for you weather report on SC, as I lived down there so many years I am still interested.

We did not have a regular Red Hat meeting in Jan or Feb. but did get together in the food court at the mall for informal meeting. A friend took me, was fun,  Most still ate in MCD's.  I went to one of the chicken ones and got a chicken ranch wrap. Felt good to get out among people.

Larry, I've been dreading this post from you, but having lived the symptoms with Cas, I just have to tell you what an inspiration you've been. I know I've mentioned before how amazing you've been with all your activities.  Maybe your doctor doesn't even know what a busy person you are... so hopefully just slowing down a little will improve how you feel. Cas was so angry with his body for betraying him that I believe it took a toll on how he felt. Such a waste of time and energy. I am sure Pat will manage just fine but don't be in any rush, please!  Keep in mind that every day we hear of new treatments for about anything.

I like to be prepared but also an eternal optimist, plan to live to 120 but cashing the bonds today to make things easier... just in case!  Another thing that did surprise me is ... it really is cheaper for one to eat than two!  No question life as a "pair" was a lot easier and more comfortable than being alone, we have to enjoy what we can and not grieve for what we can't have. The one comforting thought I have is that Cas wanted to die in his own bed and he had that.... he didn't want to spend his last days among strangers, he was a private person, so I was glad that I was here to take care of him. I don't have that fear so like I told my doctor, "I'm just going to LIVE until I die!"

Thanks for the info about trusts, guess I need to check with a KS lawyer to see what the rules are today.... think our wills were made more than 30 years ago, Kansas lawyer but rules/laws  have changed. It has been good that we have each other to talk to about this part of life, our kids really are not ready to face or think about it with us. Thanks to all for the in-put.

Gloria de.... glad you got out & enjoyed the "girls".  For sure you are one social lady. Sounds like you have a fun bunch of friends.

Jane, you are RIGHT! I watched a clip & don't know why I was so sure Bing Crosby was the man.... but that's the movie I thought was the saddest I ever saw. Break out a new box of Kleenex!

Amy, I didn't have a drunk dentist but the one I had growing up couldn't numb my mouth... he would pump Novocaine in, shot after shot until the top of my head felt funny but I could feel the touch of his metal instruments & he knew it. He would be dripping sweat he felt so bad for me. Wasn't until we lived in England that I had gas to have a wisdom & molar taken out together as they were locked in the curve of my mouth. I woke up a few minutes later, no pain...  Bet you wore goggles when using the chain saw, after getting the chip in your eye. Terrible feeling! My heart stops thinking about it. I also have my own chain saw that Cas gave me one Christmas. He got a lot of mileage out of that present at the Petroleum Club when telling the guys what he got me... they thought HE was the one that wanted it, but it really was me. Still have it! I enjoyed the link to posted for Larry.

Sandy, I know you are one that has some fantastic memories of swooping around the US.... sometimes physical isn't as hard to cope with as having your wings clipped. I regret I never had the chance to do what you did but we can't mourn what we life offers, just make the best of each day. You are right, remember the good times. You have done a marvelous job of finding ways to enjoy your new life and coping with giving up the travels and the art.  When I stopped to think of all the folks in here that have had life changing situations since "we've known each other"... quite a few. Thanks for reminding me.

And now I need to get my warm & comfy clothes on. It's warm inside but got chilled to the bone when taking dumpster to the street & the last chicken carcass to the river. I spent extra time down at the bottom of the hill watching a very cold Great Blue Heron sitting on the edge of my path to the water. It didn't even move when I got to the bank so I took photos with my phone & came back up. All 3 cats went down with me & came running back up, they didn't go out to greet the heron. I wanted to get my outside chores done before changing clothes & now it's time to get into jammies & robe. Sounds good to me!  Fitbit tells me I only got 4 hours & 14 min sleep.

I'm missing my daughter and granddaughter.  I always do when they leave.  I think I enjoy every visit so much more these days because I can't help thinking it could be the last one.  We just never know, do we.

I have to ask your prayers for my brother once again.  He's back in the hospital again having suffered a mild heart attack, severe dehydration and some internal bleeding that they have not been able to pin down yet.  My sister says he's "comfortable" tonight but they are going to do more tests tomorrow.

I know we all have our problems and my daily prayer asks that God be with everyone who needs his care.  I thank Him for my friends and I ask or His care for all of you.

AMY, I'd really love to see that show and 10 years ago, I'd have been making arrangements to go there.  I bet seeing it in person would be a truly amazing experience.

I'm off to bed now.  Wally World beckons tomorrow and I have to be up to the challenge.  Sleep well my friends and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning
Rain during the night and very high winds. The high winds have continued this morning, hope we don't lose power!Neighbour will be back over today to see if he can get a stuck nut off the machine, he has tried everything and put some liquid wrench on it last night with hopes today it will move. If the parts come in today he will put it all back together if not then Monday is the day for him to finish.

General work about home today  is about it.

Janie, prayers coming your way for all. Hugs and prayers for you also as I know how much you are worried.

Gloria de, he sure is a bundle of love but also full of mischief too!!

I had better get ready for that, neighbour may drop in .

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morn‌ing everyone. Still a misty rain here but at 37° at least it is no freezing. Supposed to end around noon and get warmer. Will like that.

JANE  at times when someone writes Gloria I wonder who they are talking to. Wish I could see my daughter as often as you see yours. Seeing her on Skype every day is sure better than nothing and better than letters or phone calls.

SHIRLEY  Margaret O'Brian aka crying O'Brian. She sure cried in every movie she was in but always enjoyed her. I never heard of a problem with cataract surgery, what happened with Cas? I can see where that would make you leary of having it done. Cold it have been the doctor he had?

MARY ANN I only ventured outside once this week. When it is pouring I stay inside, same when it is sno‌wing. Getting that yellow streak these days. Used to be I would go out every day no matter what the weather was.

LARRY  sorry for the news from your doctor. I know I was surprised about all you do. Except for the arthritis I am still in good health and thank God every day for it. Follow doctors orders, we want you around a long time to come.

GLORIA  de  it is always great to get with others. I can go down to the lobby here and there is always someone sitting there to talk with.

Have a good day.

Good morning!  Our temp. yesterday was near 80. Broke the record for high temp. for that date.  Felt so strange when I went out to go to the grocery store.  But, today it is supposed to drop through the day down into the 50's....more normal for this time of year.  When I was driving to the store I noticed that many ornamental trees were in bloom and David noticed when he was taking his daily walk that the daffodils and violets were in bloom.  And, another larger group of red winged blackbirds was in the front yard.  However, the "snow birds" (Juncos) haven't gone back up North yet.  They know winter isn't over yet!

Shirley, I feel as your Cas did.  It just makes me so mad that my body won't do what it used to.  I try to be positive and tell myself that I am doing better at age 89 than a lot of people I know.  Some days I actually believe that!   ::)

Larry, I'm sorry that you are not doing so well and have to cut down on your activities.  That is a big adjustment for you to make since you have always been so outgoing.  I'm thinking such positive thoughts for you.  Thank goodness, you have always enjoyed listening to music.  It can do a lot to soothe our troubled minds.

The sun just popped out and that makes my spirits feel brighter.  I just realized how late it is and I haven't had breakfast yet.  Be back sometime but for the meanwhile you all are in my prayers.

Amy good morning you and everyone else also. I am not trying to be putting in where I do not belong but,you might suggest to him to get a product called Power buster is I fiend better than liquid wrench and other products. also tell him to take a dull cold chisel and set it vertical on each center of the flat on the nut hit it a good lick. that will usually break the nut loose. am not trying to be a know it all but i put in a big part of 70 of my 81 years running a blacksmith and welding shop. at least a few of what I learned stuck. Have a great day.

2 of the cats have been fed but Tiger is always the lazy girl. I haven't had my breakfast so will make this short. Tom & Callie went out for a few seconds & popped right back in, too cold for man or beasts and these kids are whimps.

Gloria, when Cas went for the first cataract surgery he was surprised that the doctor put a hole in his eye "to prevent glaucoma" instead. I don't know if the doctor had mentioned it to him or if he didn't understand, but he thought he was going for cataract surgery! The next week he went to have the hole put in the other eye.  THEN came the cataract surgery in the first eye that left him with how he described it "like a light shining on a TV screen that doesn't ever go away". He wouldn't go back to see if laser or any other treatment could fix it and wouldn't consider having the other cataract removed.

Our daughter living in Seattle at the same time, got the holes in her eyes for the same reason. Both have/had deep set eyes & daughter explained her doctor said it "was absolutely necessary to take pressure off the eyes." I always felt it is like when everyone in the country needs to take the massive doses of one vitamin or another or one pill... "because it's been approved"... I did make a note of never going to that clinic or doctor. So I am chicken. Dad had such great results from his cataract removal (just one eye) but Mom never had any, at least not bad enough to remove before she died at 80.

Jane, so sorry about your brother and ongoing worry for him. Prayers and good thoughts headed his way. Know how you feel missing "the kids" when they go home. My daughter has been in & out of town so much this past year since she retired I hardly get back to "normal routine" and for sure, not getting all the routine cleaning done. But the house & town seems empty when she is gone.

Here it is almost spring & thinking about getting the pool ready for summer. Probably jumping the gun with that thought. Looking forward to a trip to MO in mid March, where my parents were born, meeting my daughter since it is closer to her than me... and wondering if I dare take the RV out of winter mode to fill water tank. I can "dry camp", don't mind, but not as nice when having company to visit with.

Daughter is not a camper so will stay in the old hotel that is now a bed & breakfast. I have to sleep with the cats so they can have the run of the whole RV all night. While we poke around the old towns the cats have to stay locked in the bedroom where the litter box, food & water will be, far cry better than having to be locked in a cage while I'm gone. Not sure what I will do about Callie, she has never gone for a ride & don't know how she would do. I was going to take her out for an overnight trip (along with Tom & Tiger) near here but never got that done. May do that if we get another warm few days like last week when 60s & 70s.

Phyllis, saw the snowbirds at my feeder this week, along with cardinals. Two of the families that fed all the time are gone now, don't see as many birds, guess they found others to feed them. Do you remember a highway that goes south out of Ottawa to Clinton? I've taken that the last few times instead of going through KC. Got to watch for the turn in Clinton to go toward Warsaw, missed it once & had to go quite a distance before finding a turn off to back track. My fav campground is between the towns & just a turn off the highway. I go through Warsaw & north on highway 65 to Sedalia & then back to Wichita after a stop in Warrensburg & Overland Park to visit siblings. Not sure if you recall all those places, even how long you stayed in the Ottawa area. No doubt Lloyd knows the route.

Amy, I'm still green with envy over your new pup... but know how much more work it would be to get 3 cats to adjust to one. You have your hands full, for sure, but isn't it a joy to have someone so excited to see you?  :smitten:

Can't believe I've been sitting here so long, just thinking. Cats have all eaten now, 2 had a look outside & popped right back in & all are sleeping, even snoring. I'd better eat & get dressed, the trash has been picked up so I need to drag the dumpster back to the garage. Still very cold out but sun is shining & plenty work to do.

Oh, forgot, I did post a photo of the Blue Heron over in Photos last night. Not a very sharp photo taken with my phone. These birds are supposed to go south.  ::)

Good morning, Lloyd... I don't think Cas had Power Buster but know there is a can of Liquid Wrench on the shelf. Cas spent his early years working for a welder and never lost his love of what one could do. My son also enjoys working with one since he retired.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful sunny morning but suppose to be partly or mostly cloudy throughout the day.  We expect to get to 70 degrees this afternoon.    I only got about 4 hours sleep last night as I was fighting shortness of breath all afternoon and night.  Pat suggested I put one of the sofa cushions behind my back in my easy chair and that did help a bit but moving about brought it back.  Enough complaining for today.  Pat made some delicious 15 bean soup in the Instant Pot last evening for our dinner and there was enough left over to have another meal or two.  Our housekeeper is here so by early afternoon we will have a nice clean house.

Amy, thanks for sharing that beautiful video of Christy Lane.  I have always liked her as she has a beautiful voice and I also adhere to the adage of one day at a time.  I appreciate all the prayers I can get and knowing that others care is always a comfort.  I do spend a lot of time in my easy chair.

Lindancer, it is great you have Taffy to talk to.  Do you suffer a lot with shortness of breath and exhaustion where you can hardly get across the room?  I don't think I ever truly appreciated what people with breathing problems have to deal with until now when I can't seem to get enough oxygen into my lungs.  You are one of the inspirations I have.  I don't feel sorry for myself and I don't want anyone else to either.  I was thinking the morning that I am about the age my father was when he health started failing him.  I am going to miss being able to be among my friends for awhile as I am a people person.  Glad you got to get together with some of your red hat ladies for some social time.

Shirley, I have realized for sometime that I shouldn't try to do more than one thing a day that takes me from the house.  I am fortunate in that today's medicines keep the angina pretty much under control and I am very thankful for that fact.  I am not a person given to depression so will just try to occupy my time and see what happens each day.  I also hope to not have to be hospitalized as my cardiologist has agreed with me that further stents are not indicated and I have known for many years I was not a candidate for anymore heart surgery.

Lloyd, glad there was nothing damaged with the slide into the gate and you got it finished.  That is pretty cold out your way.

Jane, aren't we glad that we don't know what tomorrow is going to bring?  I know I sure am.  So sorry to hear that your brother is back in the hospital.  The dehydration would be enough without the added complications.  Hope you have a good day at Walmart today.

Gloria, being able to see a person is certainly better than just talking over the phone.  I feel the same way about my best friend, whom I was able to Facetime with for a few minutes yesterday.  However, I was so short of breath that I had to end the call after only a few minutes.

Phyllis, we came within one degree of matching the all time high here in the last 140 years when it got to 85.  It is cooler today and will continue to be cooler for the rest of the week.  Thanks for your positive thoughts.  I try to be a very positive person and know it is what it is and hopefully this to shall pass.

God afternoonJust home from Homemakers a friend talk me into going today, as they had a birthday cake for me. My next outing should be the 21st, I have a doctors appointment .

Shirley, I understand how it was with Cas, My husband was really sick for 4 years, but he always talked about driving down to  ,SC. we had a lot of stuff in storage and he loved Charleston although he was was from Ala. My MIL accused me of trying to make a Northern of her son.  I just let him have his dream, that he would be able to drive again.

Larry, whenever anyone ask me how I feel, I say great if I did not have to walk and breath. I cannot walk out to the mailbox without gasping for air. Most of the time I go around the house, short steps tp chair and computer. I have a big the big oxgenon container for all night, but going out I have my little Inogen it only ways 2 lbs. so it can go anywhere with me. the old portable weighed 9 lbs. which I could not handle.
I keep it on #2.  I refused to have the stents and the dye they would  use would put me on dialysis  the doctor said.  MY kidneys are that bad. That was last March.

Jane, I will say  a pray for your brother. You also take care

GOOD AFTERNOON.....

It is Friday.....the day we have been waiting for so Michele can see her oncologist. We can't help but face this with mixed emotions.  It is the next necessary step, and yet it is frightening to know what that next step will be😢🙏.

I am having a really hard time controlling my emotions.....it makes me disappointed in myself, like I am making it all about ME, but I really do not think I believe this.....but🤬🤬

Each day seems to bring on yet another sad and disappointing discovery.  OUR JUNE....OUR LARRY.....and other health news of our friends loved ones🙏🙏

JANE, I am sorry that your brother has another health scare, but rest assured I am praying for him, you and his family.  I also can share your sadness of how it feels when our loved ones leave after a nice visit....it is so quiet and lonely.  Many of us are blessed to have our pets to keep us company, which is a blessing❣️

SHIRLEY, it only takes one bad experience to make any of us afraid to have things done that others seem to fly through without any problems.  So many times you have proven that only YOU can make the decision what is best for you.  I have to say, I appreciate all of your honesty about different issues that you have experienced.  As cold as it has been here and knowing that it heads for you after us, I do not think you are going to get any warms days in the near future to go for a over night run in your motor home.  🤪😤

GLORIA de, how nice that you were able to get out and attend your Homemakers group.

PHYLLIS, I do not think any daffodils, ornamental trees or snow birds are even close to showing their faces around here....at least I hope not as they would get nipped for sure.

We are still in the deep freeze here, so when I read about you nearly breaking records  for a high temperature LARRY, I felt a little jealous.  It has been much too long since we have been warm enough to open the doors and windows up to get a nice change out of air here in our home.

Dr. Dave and Matthew are going for a over night camp out tonight....it will be near freezing and I am so worried about them.  This is the last camp out for Matt's Eagle Scout requirement.  They have sleeping bags that are for this, but I still find it ridiculous.  They were suppose to go down south of Colorado Springs to a place that has ice climbing and other stuff, but decided it is just too cold for that much outdoor time.  They have decided to go to one of the closer  resvours.  We will be with the children when they get home from school today and will stay with Michele and the two little ones until Dave and Matt get home tomorrow morning.

I must run.....I apologize for writing another novel.....thank you all for letting me vent.

Enjoy your day.

Jenn

I had a real lesson in senior living protocol last evening. My tv would not turn on so I got down on my hands and knees to access the modem that controls it. That was a big mistake because I was unable to get up. I struggled for several minutes to no avail so I had to summon help from the nursing staff.  They couldn't get me up which meant they had to summon the para medics who finally got me up. Thy gave me the full treatment, blood work, blood pressure, heart monitor and so on. Then I had to sign a waiver that I didn't want to go to the hospital.  The ironical thing is that the staff here told me that the next time I have an issue with the tv or anything else just to call them and let them fix it. So that was a lesson well learned. My legs and joints are still sore from the time I was on the floor.

Don, I've heard that said before from people living where all you need do is "call us"... but most of us are still in the "I can do it" mode in our heads. Isn't it a good feeling to know you have help, all you have to do is ask???  Sorry about the pain, hope you feel better fast.

Jenn, I'll be checking in to see if there is any news about Michele... my heart goes out to them. Andy is another that does those freezing camp outs & I think they are crazy. He tells how the adults knock themselves out trying to find new ways to keep warm or have outstanding food. He also has the low temp tents & sleeping bags but learned long ago that if he loaned out gloves or stocking caps, might consider them give-a-way. Sadly, some of the boys don't go prepared.

I've talked to my sister & brother this week and both are having health issues, back ache for one & neck ache along with several colds/flu for the other. Not life threatening but they are not up to par. My brother is 10 years older and sister is 5 years older, both still going strong "for their age"  ;) .

I stopped to look at the surprise lilies in the berm... they sure are growing fast! Poor things, but it doesn't look like the freezing temps are damaging the tips at all. I did notice ice floating on the river this morning, first time I've seen that for a couple years. No sign of the Blue Heron. We did not get up to freezing today but think it is supposed to be warmer tomorrowd... not sun bathing weather but hopefully above freezing! I am sleepy already & still have not eaten my supper, think I'll have dessert first, an ice cream cone.

Gloria de.... I do think you must have been a fantastic neighbor to be treated so special. My neighborhood has changed, every house except one that I can think of, has had new people 2 or 3 times in the last 30 years. I used to know everyone but now I probably wouldn't recognize but a couple if I met them in the store. I am ready for bed, cats had their "midnight snack". I am ready to turn off lights & go close my eyes. Been a long day.

I'm heading for the hills too.  I'm really beat today and I can't seem to get warm.  Every time I have to open the doors for the doggies, I cringe.  And they want to go out right not.  This is the LAST time tonight.  We're going to bed as soon as they come in.  And I'm so tired this week that I opted out of going to the Amish store with my daughter.

The dogs have developed a bad case of the mumblies-grumblies and they keep lookin at the door.  So I will wish you all a Good Night and may God bless us, every one!

GloriaDe, enjoy the party.  You deserve it!

Will be back later..

Shirley, sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday.  Old US 59 runs from north to south right through Ottawa.  I35 from Overland Park to near Wichita is just a few miles southeast of Ottawa.  I was born in Fort Scott but my family moved to Ottawa when I was 6 months old and I lived there until I was married at age 22.  I had a close cousin who lived in Overland Park.  Actually they lived near Mission Hills but not far from Overland Park.  She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School.  We visited my grandparents in Fort Scott often and that isn't terribly far from Warsaw, MO. so I know of all the places that you speak about when you drive over to visit family.  I remember driving over to Bagnell Dam  with my Mom and Dad.  Lake of the Ozarks country is beautiful.  Sometimes I miss those growing up years back in Ottawa but I know it is not the same little town that I knew back then.

We certainly don't have warm temps. today!  It was down to 39 when I got up and is cloudy. Not supposed to get out of the 40's all day.

I was late getting up, too, so must be off and about the business of the day.

I was up early but had some things to do...one of them being to soak my hands in warm water.  "Arthur" did a number on them overnight and the left one is so painful this morning that it hurst to move the last 3 fingers on my left hand.  I'm trying to catch all the typos but you'll have to forgive the ones I miss.

This has been a very busy week and I'm in recovery this weekend.  Not doing anything I don't feel like doing until Monday when I have to go to work.

I hope you all have a pleasant day!  Do exactly as you wish.

Have a great day. I broke a cylinder on the front end loader yesterday,so I have my work cut out for me today first thing to fix it.

Phyllis, have you been back to visit Truman Dam area?  It is "within a few gallons" the same size as Lake of the Ozarks (Truman Lake). If you look at a map that "snake" of lakes nearly stretches the whole state. When I travel those highways I cross arms of the lake over & over, always been a little squeamish driving over water. My folks had a cabin just a mile off highway 65 near Warsaw, when I got married the owner of the resort put down a map of lots & told us to take our pick for a wedding present. We opted to take one on top of the hill overlooking the Lake west with back yard going down to what was to be a swimming area and up the next hill, my parents cabin. We sold the lot a few years before Cas died after offering it to any of our kids, because it is just easier to stay in Corp of Engineer campgrounds than take care of a cabin. It is a beautiful area and not that far from Ottawa. I sometimes take the highway that goes through Ft.Scott (#54) & have stopped more than once when alone, to have a look through antique shops. When Cas was along one time we went through the old Fort, pretty neat place. The state & Corp campgrounds in MO have electric hook ups & really well maintained with plenty of space between campers. I am one of those that would rather stay home than park so close to another camper that you can hear them snore.  :(  You can tell I love it, and I can still feel Joan rolling her eyes & moaning at the thought of camping!

Jane, I've learned this winter that the Arthur in my hands requires being covered with gloves and even in bed, make sure hands are under the covers. As long as I obey, the hands are behaving. Hands & eyes are my daily concern, but still doing okay. I've been trying to train Callie Cat to go out to take care of business but not much success. She just looks up at me & dances around my feet talking, not a clue what I'm wanting her to do. She is sure she is NOT supposed to use the litter box to puddle, that's for poop.  :-\  Those training pads are expensive, but she will use them... right next to the litter box! I want a dog!

Cloudy & cold this morning but hopefully will get above freezing. No snow or moisture so will get the hose out the next warmer day to water trees, shrubs & flowers. They have to have a drink once a month if they survive Kansas winters.

Amy, do wish you'd share the snow! So far this winter is a bust, haven't even aired up my Sno-Nut. Every year I worry that I won't be ABLE to ride it down the hill next year if we don't get enough snow this year. I'm willing but Mother Nature won't co-operate!

I'd better get moving, been up 3 hours & still in my robe. How lazy is that?  Won't be long before it will be warm enough to take camera out for sunrise & birds. I do have my own woods now. Not a tree in sight along this stretch of river when we bought the house, 30 years makes a huge difference. Have a happy week end.

Good morning, Lloyd! Sorry about more repairs, something to fix every day, but that's what keeps us going.

Hi Everyone.  We are to have a cloudy day with no rain forecast and a high in the lower to mid-50's.  Nothing of importance to write about this morning so will just check in for today.

Lindancer, did they put any candles on your birthday cake?  Like your husband one needs to maintain hope for better days when you are ill.  I seem to have reached a point quickly where any movement involving my arms or legs leaves me panting as I am so short of breath.  I hope for improvement but am a realist and know my heart has been weakening over many years and it is struggling to keep me afloat. You obviously have been a very good neighbor over the years to have such good and caring neighbors now.  I see Shirley expressed the same thought.

Jenny, you are obviously a very kind and caring person and there is nothing wrong with expressing your emotions.  My emotions seem to be on the surface now and I shed tears easily and I haven't had anyone look down on me for doing so.  We are going to have cooler weather for a few days but nothing drastic and we will generally stay above freezing at night.  I so admire Dr. Dave for finding the time for his children like the overnight camping with Matthew.  Glad you feel this is a place you can vent as you know we all care about you.

Don, when I moved here 4 years ago I made sure I had all the wires, modem, and other devices up at desk height.  Don't be a hero and let others help you when you need it as that is their job.  That was probably a good lesson.

Shirley, it is possible that some of those boys who go camping without all the necessary clothing or equipment have parents who have never camped or some who cannot afford some of the things they need.  It sounds like you come from strong stock. You would be lost without a cat.

Jane, hope you were able to warm up over night and won't be so tired today.  Don't worry about a few typos.  I hope you can rest up this weekend.

Amy, with the high winds does it do much good to tackle the snow?

Phyllis, I am familiar with those places in Kansas you mentioned.  Overland Park and Mission Hills are very nice neighborhoods.

Lloyd, your experience with the part breaking brings back so many memories of my dad always having something that needed repaired on his farm equipment.  Fortunately he was skilled, as you are, in repairing about anything.

I decided to go through some boxes in my office and help the kids out for after I'm gone.  I ended up with a trash bag full to get rid of and I'm not half finished.

This afternoon, I have to take my trash to the dumpster.  With the bag from the office, it's overflowing. That' won't take long and I'll try to do it right after lunch and then I'll have time for a nap when I get back.

SHIRLEY, I wear gloves everywhere I go and I make sure my hands are under the covers in bed.  In fact, I sometime burrow my bad hand under one of the doggies.  She doesn't seem to mind.  But the registers at WM have a lot of metal on them and it gets cold.  And when I'm on the ones at the food side of the store, lots of frozen stuff goes through the line.  I can't wear gloves at work because of handling cash.  Some days are just worse than others but we learn to live with it.  I told someone in the lunch room that I don't wash my hands because they're dirty.  I wash them because they're cold!  It helps!

Where's JUNE?

I see that I can still say Good Morning.

I missed a couple days here, and sorry to read that some of you are going through a rough time right now.

Larry, sorry to read about you having to cut down on some of your activities, but like your doctor told you, just try to take it easier for a couple weeks.  Hopefully, you will start to get some of your energy back and your breathing will improve.

Jenny,  I , too, am thinking of your DIL, and the whole family.  I know she sounds like such a positive gal and that is the best part of this situation that she is going through right now.  I am keeping her in my thoughts and prayers.  I know she will be getting the best care possible.

Jane, sorry that you have not been feeling that good, either.  I am glad that your daughter and granddaughter were able to visit for a few days.  That had to perk up your spirits a lot. I am sorry that your BIL is back in the hospital and hope he has had some improvement today.  Now, hopefully,  you are back to the same old, same old.  I am like you. I don't like the cold and have a hard time getting warm.  I keep pushing the thermostat up and back down all day long.

Gloria de, Sounds like you had a nice day with your group and nice that they had a birthday cake for you.  Nice that you were able to get out.

Shirley,  sorry to hear that your brother and sister have not been feeling good.  That flu can last a long time, especially the cough.

Don, I had the same thing happen to me a while back.  I got down and couldn't get back up. My DIL is a physical therapist and doesn't live far from me, so I called her and she came over and got me up. She knows just how to do that.  It is kind of frustrating, tho, to have that happen.  WHen something like that happens to me, I just call one of my sons to come take care of the problem.  I wouldn't know what wire went to where. LOL

Lloyd, hope you were able to fix your front end loader.  You just can't seem to win for losing, can you?

Amy, sorry that you have snow to deal with this morning, again.

They are calling for a wintry mess beginning Sun. evening and going into Monday and TUes.  I have a doctor's appt. on Monday afternoon, and it looks like I will probably have to cancel it.  Hate to have to do that, as it takes so long to get a make-up appt.  But, we will see how it goes.

Gloria, I hope your weather improves this week, so that maybe you can get out for a short walk.  I know you always look forward to being able to walk outside, even for a short time.  We have a fairly new recreation director and she does try to get more activities going, but doesn't get a whole lot of response.  But, the birthday party that they have once a month, sure does bring the people out. We all laugh as if food is available, everybody shows up. You would think that some people never get anything to eat. There usually is a good turn-out for anything that has food involved.  There is a bingo game on Friday nights that is pretty well attended.  Like you, I do  not like bingo and I don't go to that. I am looking forward to the painting group the end of the month.  It is being led by one of the residents and doesn't seem to be a fee involved. I supposed the management company is paying for the supplies. It should be fun.  Something different, for sure.

I have tried to read back and hope I have not missed anyone. If I have, please forgive me and I do hope everyone is doing better today and will have a good week end.

Joy

I didn't have to deal with the snow!! Hubby took the shovel to it and just pushed it aside  for now. I did laundry and hung the bedding  out on the line, beautiful sunny day with just the right amount of wind to dry it.

Phyliss, when you said your weather was 80° the other day I told my husband. He looked at me and said ours was 80° also.in the house! :)

Jane, what about getting hot shots to put in your gloves to keep your hands warm? Any word on your BIL? June was in here last night but hasn't been in yet today.

Shirley, we have more snow coming this week so take all you want. :) Soon the syrup makers will be making trails in the snow around their trees so thy don't have to wade in the snow. I was told snow in the bush is 3 feet!

Larry, happy to see you are feeling better..I know we don't like to slow down but there are times we do have to listen. My Dr. told me to do things slower than I do....what a hard job to do!!

Joy, as long as the snow stays away on Thurs I won't mind it coming.  Thur my friend and maybe daughter in love are going to an awesome fabric sale.

Gloria de, enjoy your cake and time with your neighbours on Sun.

Better go get the laundry folded.....either that or I iron!

Pup weighed 10.5 lbs at 49 days ,he now weighs 18 lbs at 79 days!

Good afternoon, cold and very windy.  Just received a beautiful bouquet from my DIL from Fla. also a bag of Lindor candy,This afternoon I plan to watch golf, knit and of course have a bite of candy also put my feet up.
Yes shirley and Larry,we tried to be good neighbors. Years ago one of the men ask me which  roof is your husband working on to day and they would say to me: you have a station wagon, you can take all of us. We were called the kids on the block. I ww were in our early 60's.
Thursday a lady from around the circle came over with a cleaning basket, she heard Diana my cleaning lady.
fell. This woman stays with her ill mother. She vacuumed and dusted. She said no when i went to pay her, It Was Pass It On. I had done for her mother before. What a nice surprise. Another young man brings food over when he makes soup, because I was good to hid mom.  and Dad. I still feel guilty not being able to do something back. My next door neighbor who home from knee surgery, I am going to make up a tuna and macaroni salad and send over.

Larry they would have burnt the cake up if the put all those candles on. :2funny: She put 2 large ones.

Jane, could you use fingerless gloves at the cash register? I taught a class last year in them for winter driving. I see in the catalogs for arthritis

Joy, at Lassies (parks women's club)we had a craft club that met once a week, to make thinggs for the Christmas Fair. One a month the club would have a long sandwich and desert brought in for the workers. That day we would have over two long tables of workers.

Jenny, June, Carol and Amy and anyone else I missed. Prays and extra hugs

JOY, my granddaughter made me a pair of those fingerless gloves a couple years ago and I tried to wear them at work.  I felt clumsy with them on and they didn't do much for the ends of my fingers where I need them the most.  Maybe I'll take them in and try again.  It can't hurt!

I didn't get my nap because I turned on the TV while I was eating my lunch and EXODUS had just started.  I HAD to watch it for two reasons....It's one of my all time favorite movies and Paul Newman is one of my all time favorite stars.  So when it was over, I took he trash to the dumpster and paid my sewer bill and came home.  I was just in here to read when the phone rang and it was my sister.  We talked for about an hour and my brother is responding to the care of the drs. and the attention that all the prayers brought on.  He might be able to go home tomorrow but we're not counting on it.

I still have a lot of papers and boxes to go through before I'm finished helping the kids go through my stuff.  In fact, there are two boxes in the hall that have to be dealt with this weekend.

GLORIA DE do you remember the movie MURPHY'S ROMANCE with James Garner?  When Sally Field was trying to find out how old he was so she could put candles on his birthday cake he said, "Just set the thing on fire!"  And he wasn't as old as you are.  I bet that would have been some fire!

Doggies are starting to tell me it's time for supper.  I'm going to try to hold them off for about a half hour yet.  All I have to do for mine is heat the leftovers from yesterday.

I hope your day is going well!  Take it as it comes and do what you will with it!  It's yours!

I am here. Sort of. Larry and I are suffering similar problems and lack of breath is the most annoying.. It rules our life, right Larry?

I have a little elec. machine called a nedbulizer, where a medication called Albuteral is poured in and heated to cause a light steam that I inhale for about 15 to 20 min. and it makes it easier to breathe. No cure, just an assist. Now an oxygen machine is part of my furnishings. That helps between the time for the next dose of Albuteral...or whenever I feel breathless. My Mom used to have oxygen also, but it was a larger size than the new ones, and hers had long tubing to take her through the whole house. Mine takes me to my bed on one side of the room to my recliner on other side. I can still walk the halls or out of doors without machines, but must sit now and then to breathe.

So all the new additions have kept me learning and too tired to spend more time with you beloved folks on Sr. Net. I do come in almost daily and read, and learn and pray. And thank God for each and every one of you....including You Mycheal.

I stay at home most all the time. Have meals sent up to my room at a cost of 6 dollars for delivery, food included in my rent. I don't feel as "social" as before, but my door is always open to visitors. Now it is time to take some hallway walking. Hugs, Love and Prayers, forever and ever. June

June, your treatments sound like what my youngest brother was getting. His was a lung & not heart condition that kept him so winded. He had some other health issues as well. He had the long oxygen tubing that ran all through his house. I still think he would have been much better off if he had found such a good place to live as you have. His birthday was the 7th of Feb & my oldest brother's was the 5th... so they have been on my mind a lot this week. I find myself clinging to all of you with serious health problems... don't want you to give up! I know, none of you will, good fighters, one & all.

I've been debating whether to ask you, Larry, if you've thought about a 2nd opinion for more stents. Cas' cardiologist (at the time of Cas' first heart cath this man was considered the best in the whole area) told him that "can't do stents after by-passes".... so when Cas started feeling so winded after about 12 years later, he saw that a heart surgeon was holding a seminar about stents. He went, talked to the doctor & the 7 stents he had after that gave him at least one good year per stent. I don't remember you talking about having fluid drained from your chest or around the heart.. that also helped for Cas 3 times. More than a year before Cas died, the surgeon that implanted the pacemaker/defib told me it was time to turn the defib part off (NOT the pacemaker part). I never knew if or when he did because Cas didn't tell me. Both the cardiologist and the surgeon told me when his heart muscle was too weak to restart. Cas was already investigating whether he would be a candidate for the new external mechanical heart someone was working on.

The cardiologist is the one I go to, he isn't a surgeon, but when I talked to him about the hospitals replacing the valve through the artery (or vein?) he said, "that is for people that can't stand the surgery and less than a year to live". Wasn't 6 months after my surgery that the newspaper was crowing about local hospitals and doctors doing that procedure!  I've heard it is how they replace the pig valve I'm wearing now. What I'm saying is that you have been so active compared with Cas' last couple years, I find it hard to think your doctors won't do more. Cas lived 12-14 years longer than if he had accepted the cardiologist opinion that there was nothing more to do. So there.... I said it & know I will be like jello concerned that I've said too much (again). The other thought was maybe your "exhaustion" is partly because you've had the shingles shot or something. Andy's doctors all said that "the flu shot he got weeks before his chills & sweats that led them investigate the infection... was a blessing because it pushed his body over the edge of what it could tolerate". You are so much more active than Cas was the last few years, I am concerned the doctors aren't getting a good look at the "total you". I know, shut up, Shirley.   :sealedlips:  :sealedlips:

I'm off to take my Sat night bath & wash my hair for church, got to get up early. Cold out tonight bit Tom and Callie wanted to see what's going on. Tiger could care less, too cold for her. They can have their midnight snack after I have my jammies on. I'll be back to see if Jenn has news about Michele's teatment. Praying it isn't as bad as feared.

I am happy to report that Dave and Matthew survived the camp out in spite of the frigid temperatures.

Michele's oncologist appointment went very well.  She will have a CT scan and a PET scan on this coming Wednesday, then the Gama Knife procedure on Friday.  She will meet with the oncologist again on Friday after the Gama procedure and find out what the plan will be for her. The oncologist feels there are many options available for her and they both are anxious for the test results so they make the best decision for her treatment.

The new for my dad today was not quite as promising.  He had his second crushed vertebrae fill done.  The spine doctor told him that this is all that he is going to be able to do for him.  He said dad is too old to have back surgery where they remove the vertebrae and put steel rods in the back. He said he feels so bad as he hoped he could help my dad with his pain.  He did give him some Tylenol with codine in it as a last ditch attempt to give him some kind of relief but told him to be very careful and only take it when absolutely necessary and not as a daily pill.  He told him he is sorry that is all he can do for him but that he will be praying for him and he also gave him his personal cell phone number to call of they have any other questions.  My dad has asked us to assist him in getting rid of his car as the doctor as said that he feels he should not drive any longer.  As soon as we know what Michele's schedule of care will be we will plan to head down to AZ and do what he would like to do.  While we are there Bob will do my dads income tax as well.

GLORIA de, what day is your Birthday?  No one seems to be wishing you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, so did you already have your day?

JANE, good to read that your "Brother" is doing better.  Continued prayers for him.

JUNE, you are doing the best you can to help yourself get through each da.  You know your ability so do what you feel is best for you.

I wish you all a good night.

Jenny

Jenn, hopeful news about Michele but sorry your father can't be helped more. The Tylenol with codine is what was finally given to Cas after 3 days of the max morphine that didn't help at all. Few minutes after getting the Tylenol Cas was ready to leave the hospital he felt so much better. He knew not to take it often or long, but sure made a difference. Best wishes for your dad, at his age I wouldn't worry about getting hooked but hopefully he will realize it has it's limits. From the time my grandmother stayed with my parents when X-ray showed her back was crumbling, she lived at least 8 more years in a nursing home. Not sure how they kept the pain down, but she slipped off the tall nursing home bed causing internal bleeding they couldn't stop. She was 96 when she died, "and still running the nursing home". She was a character. Prayers and best wishes for all the family, glad your boys did okay on the camp out!

Jane, hope you have a Super Sunday, chilling out & pampering yourself. Methink you are needing some ME time to unwind. Do you get good sleep?  I only got 3 hours & 20 min (Fitbit keeps track for me) before a cat woke me up this morning. They've all been fed, I ate an egg & couple pieces of toast, cup of coffee, would love to go back to sleep, but wouldn't wake up until after 9:00 am. I do enjoy Sunday mornings & know I can nap later in the day.

Good Morning to All.... Super Sunday ahead.... rise & shine! :angel4:  :sun:  :walkwhistle:

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The doggies have been out and had their pill.  We're waiting for the boinger and I have to go get ready for church.

SHIRLEY, the sleeping time isn't good.  When I sleep, I really sleep but I know when I go to bed that I'll be awake in 1 and a half to two hours and I sleep in fits of no more than 2 hours at a time.  This is one area I plan to address when I see the dr. the next time.  I'm pretty sure I'll refuse any kind of sleeping pill so I figure it's a lost cause but I'm going to tell her anyway.

That's part of the reason that I try to take a nap after work.

Now I have to go get myself ready for church before the boinger go off for the doggies breakfast.  I wish you all a great day.  Make it your own in every way!  You've earned it!

Good morning everyone
Jane I had your sleep  last night in fits and bits. We were out at 3 am ....not a star visible in the sky.

Today is a day of rest , have leftover chicken that will make a pot pie for supper and that is it.

Jenny, sorry to read about your Dad. Ty 3 are terrible on ones system, your Dad needs to keep laxatives handy if he is going to take them. Michele just may be the one to surprise everyone in all this. Her outlook is the winning factor. Prayers for all.
Since I don't wish to be caught in my nightgown if the neighbour comes over to work on his snow machine I had better go get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Just saying a quick Good Morning.

I was up early and just checking here to say Hello !

I have a few things to do before I get dressed.  I am so anxious to see my little great-grands today.  It will be a fun day, I am sure.

Tomorrow is another story.  Sounds like it is going to be a wintry mess for Monday and Tues.  I think I will wait and see what the schools decide to do to determine whether I will cancel my appointment or not.  Hate to cancel because then it is usually a hassel getting another appointment soon.  We will see !!!

Hope everyone is feeling better this morning and will have a good day.

Sorry to hear that winter is coming back for you, Joy.  I've been wondering what my son over west of DC is going to get.  Maybe I'll call him later.  Take it easy and stay out of it, if you can.  Canceling appts. is a nuisance but your safety is more important.

Amy, I laughed at your husband's comment about our near 80 temps. here in NC.  Tell him we are back down to the usual for this time of year--36 when I got up--but, of course, that probably sounds like Spring to you up there in the cold North.  Stay warm and be careful if you have to be out "dancing".

I didn't have a really good night last night so I'm slow getting around.  It is after 10  am and I'm still in my robe and haven't fixed breakfast yet.  Really slothful today. :(

Jane, I knit some fingerless gloves for myself a couple of years ago but I didn't like wearing them either.  Always in the way.  And they don't do a 100% job of keeping my hands warm.  I haven't even gotten them out this year.

I must get up and get busy.  Maybe I'll forget my achiness if I'm actually doing something to take my mind off it.  Besides, I'm hungry!

Take extra care of yourselves today, Everyone.

Good morning everyone. Cold again and not as windy as yesterday. I have not been going out, I shiver if I do, heck I bundle up inside and still not warm enough.

SHIRLEY  wonder if the doctor Cas went to was experimenting on his eyes. I had no hole put into my eyes. We did have a few warmer than normal days a week ago and it is down in the low 20's again and with the wind yesterday felt like zero even with the bright sunshine.

LARRY  I like the 15 bean soup. Have a package of the beans but waiting till I have room in the freezer to make it. Too much for just me to eat so freeze it in containers. Good soup for a cold day. Glad you do not get depressed, never helps anything and I keep getting asked if I feel depressed and I reply I will not let myself get that way.

JENNY  prayers for your DIL and family.  Too young for all her health problems.

DON  that was not a nice lesson to learn was it? I know here if one falls and cannot get up the medics have to be called. No one is allowed to help them up in case they hurt the one who fell. I know I would not get down on my knees as I would not be able to get up on my own.

GLORIA de  you have wonderful neighbors. We used to have neighborhoods like that here, all caring people. Now too many from the city moved in and they care for no one but themselves.

SHIRLEY  this town has changed since I moved here 68 years ago. Guess all the friendly tows are a thing of the past now. Sad.

JANE  you must have been worn out to pass up going to the Amish store with your daughter. I gripe about my back but I can still move around with my rollator. Hands are something used every  day of our lives. I am sorry that arthritis hit you there. Must be painful at the regis ters when y ou are at work, even thyping on the PC. We do tend to overlook spelling here so never worry about that. No one is perfect.

SHIRLEY  complaining about no snow? Since the first of December we have had only 2 1/2ch rain.

JOY  the company has a party at Christmas and a Cook out in summer. That is all. We had one lady here whe arranged entertainment and a meal from a caterer. Nothing to do with management. She is no longer with us. Another lady arranged a New Year's Eve party. She had a menu from a good Chinese restaurant. We could pick what we wanted and pay her and on that early evening her and someone else would go pick the meals up. Fun evening and was over about 9:30. Fun but she has moved out, the manager kept picking on her.

JUNE  like you my door is always open to visitors but here only a few visit each other. When we meet down stairs it is great but some just stay in their apartments and are not social at all.

JENNY  my prayers for your Dad. Living with his back like that is not pleasant. I was to I was too old for surgery the first time 8 years ago.

Better get this posted and have my breakfast before it is time for lunch.
Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another cool and cloudy day.  This will just be another quiet day of rest.  Yesterday was like the days before where my my concern was being able to get my breath.  I did watch a lot of basketball yesterday and expect to do the same today.  I am going to encourage Pat to get in the car and perhaps go through a drive thru to get our Sunday main meal.  Unfortunately my appetite is not good at the moment and I am not eating very much.  I made a decision last evening that I am going to get another Chromebook, which is very lightweight, as my laptop with the board to set it on have become too heavy.  The one I think I may get weights only 2.6 pounds, is very thin and has a lighted keyboard, which would be helpful.  There also is no maintenance on it as that is all done by Google.  I have had a Chromebook before so know what I will be getting.

Amy, I do wish I was feeling better as that seems to be a fleeting thing.  I think if I get much slower things will start going in reverse.  :)

Jane, glad you brother is doing better and hopefully will soon be home again.

June, while I have had some shortness of breath in the past nothing like what is happening now that can last for long periods of time.  Yesterday afternoon I was just laying in bed and watching the basketball game and all of a sudden the shortness of breath came over me and I had to sit up and then get up and sit in my easy chair.  You are right it is ruling my life along with the weakness.  I don't think I have a problem with my lungs as such it is just that they are being deprived of the oxygen they need. I suppose the panting is to help us get more oxygen to the heart so it can more effectively pump the blood to the lungs.  I do have the long tubing and the canula for my nose that I may hook up so I can get more oxygen while I am in my easy chair, where I spend a lot of time.  Like you I try to pray a prayer of gratitude that God has granted me another day of life and I will take it as it comes.

Shirley, I won't give up as have a lot of live for.  I have a loving wife and son and a great Church family.  I have had three cardiologist now that have told me that they have repaired all they can with stents.  This included my current Cardiologist who told me that she wouldn't put me back into the cath lab, where I have been over 30 times.  I started having the stents soon after they came into use.  Unfortunately none of them would stay open.  The stents were helpful to me for awhile.  After my first heart surgery in 1987 I did have a lot of fluid pumped from my lungs and then I soon became to recover after being down for 8 weeks and not feeling better.  My previous cardiologist told me about the mechanical heart that is now available that is an external device that helps the heart function.  I know that new medicines and procedures are being developed all the time.  I don't think the Shingles shots really had anything to do with my situation.  Right now I am certainly not very active but can still care for my personal needs. I do appreciate your comments and I don't want you to shut up.

Jenny, glad Michele's oncologist appointment went well and that there are many options open to her in her further treatment. The tough part is deciding what option to take. Sorry to read that your Dad hasn't found relief from the crushed vertebrae.  The doctor telling him there was nothing less available to help him is tough news to take.  I does sounds like he had a very caring doctor.

I have not tried to comment to everyone today but know you understand.  I have read and appreciate all of the postings.

Good afternoon, sunny with less wind

June, good to see you posting. My husband used the nebulizer t, as I did when I was in the hospital.twice
a day, but he had the oxygen on all day. glad to see you can walk in the halls

Jenny, so sorry about your dad. When I was in my late 70's they said it was to late for a shoulder or back operation,  Lincoln and I have the same birthday, only he is older!

Larry, I am so sorry about your breathing problem, it gets scary when you cannot catch your breath. I have the big tank with the long tub that I use all night, then I have my little inogen tank next to my chair, I also use that when I go out. You see that one advertised on TV all the time, mine only ways 2 lbs
If I am up to it I am supposed to go across the street for cake and coffee, by the way of a nice young man pushing me over in a wheelchair.

Gloria, people use to move out here from Brooklyn and the city, so they would have grass and a garden. Now they complain about the farm making noise, watering and plowing. Now downtown they are talking about building 4 story apartment houses, which I thought that is why they moved out here in the first place to get away from

Well, there are two less boxes for the kids to deal with when I'm gone.  And I have another bag to go to the trash.  I've selected several areas and I hope to clear up at least one a week for a while.  I can't go out and run around so I might as well make use of the time.

I said a prayer for each of you because I think we all have our problems with which to deal and I really like hearing how you all deal with them.  It helps me to make my decisions.

Thank you for being my friends and for sharing your lives and those of your families with me.  I wonder if you all know how special you all are?

I'm off to make some dinner so I can eat leftovers the rest of the week.  Join me if you like!

Well today was truly a lazy day. Other than the necessities  to do , I did very little :)
Neighbour is over working on his skidoo and of course Rex is with him. It was lots of fun to watch Rex and Jesse play , tired me out just watching!!

We are in  for another snow storm they say...not happy about that! My outing to the sale has changed ,they are having the sale on Fri and Sat this time and I hope the weather behaves by then. Getting rather fussy here, don't care to drive in the dark or snow storms either.

Jane, I think we all have become so close and consider  everyone family.. when the rest of the world is going crazy it is nice to stop in here and enjoy each other. We worry, we laugh, we cry and really pray a lot for others in here.

Did you get my email?

Better go take this pup out again.     / b]

Some Very Good Points.....Especially the exercise suggestions...

Don't let your computer hurt you

Ergonomics important for heavy digital users

Marc Saltzman

Special to USA TODAY

Quickly, calculate how much time you spend in front of digital devices, such as computers, tablets, and smartphones. Be honest. According to a recent Nielsen report, American adults now spend about 11 hours per day on technology – that's about two-thirds of the time we're awake – and the number climbs higher for those who work in front of a monitor at the office. Americans are now sitting an average of 12 to 13 hours a day, says Ergotron, a manufacturer of office-related products.

If this sounds familiar, you bet your bitmaps there are health concerns with our sedentary work culture.

And so, take heed to these following "ergonomic" tips to healthier computer use, whether it's during your 9-to-5 work life, 5-to-9 downtime or both.

Nice mice

Reduce the odds you'll suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive stress injuries. Choose a computer mouse that's comfortable for you. Mice should have a curved hump that fits the contours of your palm. Many today are designed for both left- and righthanded users. Wireless mice provide fewer movement restrictions than wired mice, allowing you to place it on the desk in a comfortable position. When you use a mouse, try to limit your wrist movement. Instead, move your forearm, and with your elbow pivoted.

If you use a laptop with a trackpad, connect an external mouse for better comfort.

"Ergonomic" mice are designed with your body in mind. The latest from Logitech is the MX Vertical Advanced Ergonomic Mouse ($99), a unique PC accessory with a 57-degree vertical angle that allows for a "handshake" grip for greater comfort. The mouse also straddles the line between design and performance – what the MX series is best known for – and it's precise and programmable, which is important to gamers, too.

If it's still uncomfortable to use a mouse or if you experience wrist discomfort, try a trackball instead, as you simply roll your fingertips on the top of the peripheral.

The key(board) to success

On a desktop computer, choose an ergonomic keyboard that could help reduce wrist strain – these typically are curved to more naturally fit the angle of your wrists (place your hands on a desk and you'll see they point inwards). Some ergonomic keyboards have a split keyboard, too.

If you're on a laptop you can always plug in a larger and more ergonomic keyboard when in one location for a while (though not ideal for an airplane, of course). Keep in mind, some small Chromebooks and iPad cases with keyboards generally have smaller keys, which could prove uncomfortable.

Try to keep your wrists almost floating above the keyboard so your hands can easily move to reach far keys (e.g., the G or H keys) rather than trying to stretch your fingers to reach them because your palms are mounted. You might consider a padded or gelled wrist rest that sits in front of the keyboard.

Finally, learn keyboard shortcuts to reduce the need for keystrokes.

Recommendations include Microsoft's Surface Ergonomic Keyboard or Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop ($129 each), both of which offer a natural arc and slope.

Have a seat (or stand)

It won't cost you much these days, so be sure to pick up a decent office chair with lower back support. And your mom was right – posture is important, too – so stop yourself from leaning in towards the monitor. Instead, sit back all the way.

If you can, choose a chair with wheels so you can better position yourself for added comfort. Learn about the adjustment features of your chair, if it offers any. Look for one with armrests.

Your feet should be flat on the floor. Vertically challenged folks should use a small step-stool or milk crate to rest your feet on under the desk. Your keyboard and mouse should be at about elbow level, so adjust your chair's height accordingly.

To avoid neck problems, those who work from home should avoid working on a laptop while reclined on a sofa or in bed.

An increasingly popular option is a standing desk. Standing rather than sitting promotes more muscle use and better blood flow. There are also Sit-Stand Workstations that sit on top of a traditional desk and balance ball chairs, which some employees swear by.

'Monitor' your health

When in your chair, be sure to swivel your chair so you're facing the monitor straight-on so you're not putting strain on your neck. Your monitor should be at eye level and should tilt left and right and swivel up and down to help you find the most comfortable angle.

There are also wall mounts, including retractable and adjustable monitor "arms" from companies like Ergotron.

If you get to choose your monitor for work, get a larger screen (24 inches or more) so you don't have to squint to see the font on a small monitor (at the very least, increase the font size). Have adequate overhead lighting so you're not straining your eyes to see the monitor.

Prices vary, but for $299 you can pick up a large 32-inch LG QHD LED IPS Monitor (model # 32QK500-W). For gamers who want something bigger, wider, and faster (to keep up with action games), there's the top-of-the-line 34inch LG GK950G UltraWide Curved Gaming Monitor ($1,399), with sphere lighting on the back.

Look away from your monitor every couple of minutes and close your eyes every few moments to give them a break, too.

"Dry eye" is becoming a common condition and it is being attributed, in part, to our reliance on digital displays, as we're focusing on screens and blinking less often. Symptoms include a stinging, burning or scratchy sensation in your eyes, eye redness, sensitivity to light or perhaps some stringy mucus in or around your eyes. Over-the-counter eye drops such as Systane Complete Lubricant Eye Drops ($10) provide instant hydration.

More 'ergo' tips and tricks

Take frequent breaks. Get a drink of water, stretch and do some minor neck, back and arm exercises. You can also gently rub your muscles when you need a little break.

Perform these short stretches and exercises repeatedly throughout the day, even if it's rolling your neck around, reaching up to the ceiling or walking around the office to stretch your legs.

If you use a phone all day, buy a hands-free headset, so you're not trying to hold the phone between your neck and ear while typing at the same time.

I realize there were several product endorsements built in but what I took away was the reminder to get up and stretch body parts regularly. I believe that 11 hours probably fits many of us.

Are you saying that many of us spend 11 hours sitting in front of a computer, phone or laptop?  Add 4 hours behind the counter a WM, an hour getting ready, going there and coming home. (16) about 2 hours eating and cleaning up after meals (18) [probably a total of three hours taking care of the dogs (21).  That leaves 3 hours in 24.  No wonder I'm not sleeping well!

I'm sorry, DONKLAN!  I couldn't resist!  I'm teasing your.  And I do understand what you're saying and you're giving us some good advice.  I can't afford any of that new stuff but I do get up and walk around a lot and I do close my eyes and move them off the screen from time to time.  I never timed it but I found it to be a necessity.

Back when I was raising my children they told us to limit the amount of time the spent in front of the TV.  I never had to do that with my kids because they had so many other interests, they didn't spend a lot of time watching TV.

Now I'm going to go see if there are any zzzzs hiding in my bed and try to make use of them.  I bid you good night and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

Been up for a bit letting dogs in and out. Not a lot on today, need to take Kyle for a hair cut and pick up some dog food.

Neighbour will be over to finish or try to finish up on his skidoo. We have kept a fire on in the garage/shop for him so he is not working in the cold.

Donklan, interesting read. If one has a puppy they are lucky to sit for 1/2 hour  if that!!

Enjoy your day everyone...stay warm!

I got up this morning to a temp of 21 degrees and snow on the ground.  At this time, it has stopped but it's supposed to begin again around 8 a.m.  I'll be off to work around 10 but the snow is to continue until around noon and  then get really serious 8 or so tonight and continue for "who knows how long".   I just hope it doesn't amount to much while I'm at work.

When I come home, I'll tackle another area of "cleaning out".  I seem to have saved a lot of "paper" but books are the real issue.  I can't seem to dispose of books!  My plan is to pack them up and then see if the kids want any of the old ones and if they don't, check with the library.  If they don't want them.....?????

I'm hoping to have a garage sale this Spring.  I wonder if anyone will find me.

I wish you all a good day.  Grab it and make it your own!  God gave it to us to do as we wish!

Good morning, Amy and Jane, and all the others who will  be here later.

It is a real wintry mess here this morning.  Every few minutes another school district decides to close for the day.  I am still undecided whether to try to get to the doctor's appt. or not.  It is supposed to warm up above freezing by about 10 a.m. and then fall back below freezing later this evening.  Maybe I can get in during that little bit warmer time, but just don't know what to do.  I will call the doctor's office and see if they are even going to be open.

I had a fun day yesterday with the little ones. They all had grown a lot since I last seen them.  They stayed about 4 hours and we had a good time.

I need to get myself moving as I do want to, at least get ready to go out and then decide whether I will or not.  Decisions !  Decisions !

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone, looks like another cold day here. Tomorrow according to the weather guesser we will be getting a snow storm that will be a bad one. Well cannot complain, since the first of December we only had 2 1/2 inches of snow. Had inches of rain though.

LARRY  I like your attitude about your health. That is all in God's hands.

GLORIA  de  in this town we now have a power plant but it is way out in the woods and really no bother. The governor wants another one built in town and everyone is up in arms not wanting it. They need a lot of water and the town refused to supply it. They then said they would get the water from Wallum Lake but ran it trouble there, too because half the lake is in Mass. and they would not agree. Right now I think the governor has changed her mind. However they had 3 section 8 building built and now we are getting troublemakers from the city moving into them. The police now have more calls because of them than they ever had before.

JANE  I have 2 boxes of pictures that I tried going through and just cannot throw any of them away. I already told my 3 they  will have that job. I have a niece who is into genealogy and might like the pictures, will have to ask her. She has sent me many of the pictures she found on line about some of out ancestors. I have emailed her several of my brother-her Dad.

AMY  I no longer drive or make appointments in the winter months. I always tell them when I make an appointment that is it is snowing I will not be there. I do not want to‌ a car with anyone driving. I trust my sons driving and the town car  we have here has 2 good drivers I trust but still no longer feel safe on the roads when it snows.  I agree we here in the SS are a family.

DONKLAN  good information in your post. I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands but could have been from the job I had. I bought on ergonomic keyboard and never liked it so went back to a regular one. I do not sit here long at a time I have to get up and move around or my back acts up.

JANE  wow you do not have time to sleep do you?  More than once I left work early when snow began piling up. You know those bins they have to drop clothes in? Here they have some to drop books in. I read they send those books to troops overseas.

AMY  long time since I had a puppy but they sure are a lot of work till they get out of the puppy stage.

JOY  like you I do not go anywhere when it is snowing anymore.

Have a good day.

Hi Everyone.  We have an overcast, drizzly and chilly day today.  In a few minutes Pat will drive me to the Podiatrist for a standing appointment.  She is going to let me out at the door and then stay with the car until I call her when I am finished.  This appointment usually takes no more than 30 minutes. That will be it pretty much for the day.  I did have a good nights sleep last night for which I am grateful.  I did order my new Chromebook computer and a new laptop table for it.  They both weight just a little over 2 pounds each.  I hope to have it tomorrow or Wednesday.

I don't have time this morning to read and leave any comments on the postings since yesterday so will come back later this afternoon to do that.

Merry Monday, Everyfriend.

Weather in central Oklahoma has been miserable - lots of heavy fog, low temperatures, wind (of course) and general gloom - and I've spent most of the time being a Recliner Radish.

Parents of The Grands came on Saturday and took me all around town for "in and out" errands.  Surely was nice not to have to drive, find a parking place, go in, come out....repeat.  We had lunch at my favorite Chinese restaurant.
After we got back to my house, Dil and I went through a trunk full of old quilts from my and hubby's family. I didn't know the history of most of them so she took all of them home with her to ask a friend about patterns and possible age. Dil has been making quilts using the t-shirts from The Grands' and other family members' school days.  They are so special and friends are beginning to ask her to do one for them. They're always shocked when she tells them how much it will cost because no one (including me) realizes how much time and effort it takes - in addition to the fabrics involved.

Janie,  our metro library's support group takes donated books for their annual book sale.  There are also some used-book stores around that will take them.  Some of them have a 1-for-2 deal.....donate 2 books; get 1 free.

I've been reading and sympathizing with all the health issues going on.  Sorry I'm not better at commenting but please know you are each in my prayers.

Gentle hugs to Everyfriend with good thoughts for an Enjoyable Day.

No snow here but it is raining and will for the rest of today and most of tomorrow.

Laundry is "laundering" and should go into the dryer soon.  My washing machine is making ominous noises and I think I will have to go shopping for new washer and dryer soon.  :-\  Always something!

I think I will get out the vacuum and do the front hall and maybe the dining room.  I'll feel less guilty about being lazy if I do that but am making NO promises.

And I plan to put on a pot of pea soup after lunch to have tonight.  I think if I do all that it will be enough activity for today.

I worry about Larry and June and all the others here and their families who are dealing with so much.  I wish I had a magic wand that I could just wave and fix everything for all of you....and me, too.

 :cheer: Yay, Amy!   :cheer:

We had a busy morning with the doctor's appointment and then on the way home we stopped at Diablos for our main meal.  It was pleasant to get out for a little while and to actually eat in a restaurant.  I brought 2/3rd of my lunch home for future meals.  I tried to rest for a couple of hours but couldn't get my shortness of breath to stop.  I have now read all the postings up to this time and didn't see anything that I could add to so will sign off for today.

Larry, I am sorry that you had a bad afternoon.  But, I am sure it was nice to get out to eat, but maybe that was just a little bit much after being at the doctor.

I sure hope you will have a comfortable evening.

I wound up not going to the doctor's and didn't feel like getting my hair done either. I had been up early, so after I made a couple phone calls, I went back to bed.  Had a very lazy afternoon. Now, need to look for some dinner.

Another day that has passed much too quickly!

Today is our oldest Son Kurt's 50th Birthday!  No one in our family can believe he is that old, including me❣️  I remember so well that blizzard day in Germany when he was born, and it sure doesn't seem 50 years ago. We sure would have liked to have been with him on this special day, but it just was not possible.

YIPPEE, AMY, you are released from jury duty....hopefully FOREVER!

JOY, I do not blame you for not wanting to get out today....wise choice!  Happy you got to spend time with your little ones....they just grow up much too quickly.

LARRY it is good to read that you and Pat were able to enjoy a meal out today.  My dad really made me feel sad today when I was talking to him  he commented, "even my days of getting to take Diane out for a meal are over, and that makes me so sad"! This is of course, due to his pain in his back and him not being able to move around freely.  😢😢

Oh PHYLLIS, wouldn't a magic wand be WONDERFUL?

CALLIE, how nice you were able to get out and about on Saturday with your family.  How nice to share your MIL's quilts with your DIL so that she could find out some facts about them.  I feel sad that no one seems to be that interested for the most part in those hand made quilts.

GLORIA, I am with you in that I just can not throw old pictures away......they meant so much to our family and I just can't do it.  My kids will have no problem throwing things, or so I assume from their general attitude about their personal items from their past....so they can do it.

WOW, JANE, you are really doing a good task of going through drawers and the like and getting rid of things.....good for you!

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenn

Hello Everyfriend!  Today was a weird day!  It snowed a bit before I left for work but then we had nothing all day.  It is supposed to be snowing now and to last all night but I haven't had to let the dogs out lately and I haven't checked to see if it is doing that.

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning (rescheduled from 2 weeks ago when we had snow) and my cleaning dynamo is supposed to be here around noon (also rescheduled from 2 weeks ago) and some people coming for a meeting at 4:30 (also rescheduled from 2 weeks ago.  I'm thinking if the predicted snow and freezing rain come tonight and tomorrow, the appointments will all be canceled again!  but that's life in Central PA in the middle of winter!

I was so tired when I came home from work today that I took care of the doggies needs, loved them up a bit and then we all settled down for a "long winter's nap".  I even turned off my phone.  And never turned on the computer until a few minutes ago.

AMY, GREAT that you don't have to do jury duty.  I've never been called for that.  And I hope I never am!

JENNY, it sounds like your father's sadness if more for others than himself.  He misses what he has had with Diane and feels sorry for being able to do that for her.  I see where you learned to care for others.  Daddy taught you!

I'm going to chase the doggies out one more time and see if the snow started and then I'm going to hit the hay.  If we get the snow, I'll be bus cancelling appointments again tomorrow.

Rest peacefully...wake happy and may God bless us, every one!

Hi Everyone. We have a damp and cloudy morning and some heavy rain showers and winds are predicted for a 4 hour windows late this afternoon.  I ended up having to spend the night in my easy chair and finally got maybe a couple of hours of sleep in it.  This cough associated with my heart was bothering me last night and I knew it would keep Pat awake.  I have only two things that I must do this morning and the first is to meet with my friend to work with him for an hour.  Following that whenever Pat is up and ready she will take me downtown for a quick blood draw in preparation for an appointment with my GP early Friday morning.

Joy, we are going to try to get out at least once a week to eat.  Unfortunately right now my appetite is shot, something very unusual for me.  My evening and night wasn't very comfortable either.

Jenny, it doesn't take long for those 50 years to pass.  I hope Kurt had a nice birthday.  Right now I can relate to your Dad's comment about being sad not to go out much but in my case it is the burden that has now befallen Pat in caring for me.

Don, I read most of the article you posted.  Thanks.

Jane, better to cancel appointments than risk being out in the bad weather where you could fall or get stuck in the snow and ice.  I am glad you could have a "long winter's nap" when you got home from work.  It seems from your postings that your job is taking more and more out of you.  I am sure you would not now be required to serve on Jury duty based on your age.  In Georgia and South Carolina people are not called or have to serve after the age of 70.

Lloyd, we are expecting it to get to about 80 today and rain later in the afternoon.  Glad the rain melted your ice on your deck.

Roley, glad you checked in today and I hope I can still be my cheery self and that this situation will pass.  It is not getting any better at this point.

Amy, does your husband take blood thinners and thus get bruises on my arm or wrist where the blood is drawn.  I hope he can get a haircut.  Both Pat and I one but will have to do that on a day when I am doing nothing else.

Good morning everyone, 17° now so it will be snow when it starts around 11 am. Schools are all sending kids home early, some at 11 and some at noon.
Having one of those blah days, going to call and cancel my CNA for today. Not up to hearing here never ending talking. No matter how I have told her she gives me a headache she still never shuts up. This is one day I just do not want to hear it.
No comments here either. Hugs and prayers for all. Hope those in the way of this storm in the east are safe from the snow/rain.

No storm here...yet but son is in one in Toronto..
Just got a call that our power will be interrupted on Thur from 9 -12 and 1- 4..while they hook up all the new poles they put in.
Hubby got blood work done and had his hair cut, so he is good for another 6 weeks or so.

Gloria, hugs that your day will be better for you. Enjoy the peace and quiet. :)

Joy, that was a wise move you made to stay home.

Jenny, Happy Birthday to Kurt....time sure flies , doesn't it?

Jane, this is the 3rd time I have been called and yes hope it is the last but the girl said for the NEXT one just do what I did to get out of this one!! I served 11 days on the first jury!

Larry, easy does it..........don't push yourself too hard. Not saying that man is bull headed but well .......you know :) Yes, he does take blood thinners and now this new RA DR wants to put him on a med that scares the dickens out of me as it destroys the immune system :(

Just put a pot of pea soup on the back of the cookstove..will throw some ham in later.

Hi Roley, how are you doing?

Where is Shirley??

Enjoy your day everyone.

I've been up and greeting the day by calling off everything that would jeopardize my safety or that of someone else.  No dentist, no cleaning dynamo and no meeting with my daughter and friend.

We had snow all night and about 9 this morning it turned to sleet an has been throwing that at us ever since.  The doggies need a nudge to go off the porch and I would too.

I have one load of laundry in the dryer and another "Laundering" (thank you Phyllis).  I've also moved my portable heater into the office to get it warmed up because I'll probably be spending a lot of time in here today.  I have three different forms to fill out and I might as well do it while I can't go out.  And I might as well be warm while I do it.

I hope all of you are being cozy from whatever is brewing in your area.  Stay in and stay safe.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LARRY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GLORIA DE

...and Happy Birthday to Miss Ellen.  Doesn't seem like 26 years since her other grandmother and I decided "this will take all day" and went on to do errands - arriving home to a frantic call from the hospital,  "She's on the way. You need to get here!"  We made it!  :smitten:

Right behind you, Callie.... and that sun do hurt the eyes it's so bright! Good Morning to All You Friends!  :hello:

I'm planning to get the hose out to water the young trees, flowers & shrubs that need it... and then wash my poor little car. It is so dirty I can't get in without getting my slacks dirty. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer so that big job may get put off.

Amy, can't help but comment about your concern of a new med for "what's his name"  ;) ... my daughter was on one that you see advertised all the time on TV... she knew it was causing her a problem so when she was diagnosed with "chemical induced Lupus" she insisted she was going off the med. Her doctor threatened her that "she would have to find a new doctor if she did"... but she did it anyway and guess what, after a couple months the Lupus was GONE and that is considered not possible~~~ Don't think she is going to the same doctor anymore, but right now she has everything under control with no meds. Doesn't mean all meds are bad, just got to go with instincts & knowing your own body. I bit my tongue to never give my opinion for Cas' medications, no advice since I didn't want him to argue with MY decisions.

Happy Birthday to Larry and Gloria de...

I was rushing to get a card in the mail & my post wouldn't do what it was supposed to do... like larger print. What's with this???  So thought I would try again while I warm up. It doesn't feel as warm out as promised & took me longer to get things watered. Couldn't get one faucet opened (must have had help turning it off last fall).... so put together the 2 75 foot snake hoses to do the job. Will see if tomorrow is warmer, will wash icky off the car then!

Here's wishing the same to Joy's granddaughter, who is also 26 today.

Shirley,  I wondered if it would be too cold for you to water.  I had to wear my heavy coat every time I went out today.

Am having to fill the sunflower feeder every other day.  A big flock of sparrows are greedy and competing with the cardinals, chickadees and other birds.

Hi, all, decided this morning to stop taking care of myself and being unhappy, so I got up, cleaned up, dressed, and started my day as I used to with the exception of the last two weeks, when I really fell apart. Gary had me join Hospice, which I was happy to do, but it has been a nuisance. It will be fine when I am dying, but too much nonsense now.

Tisie, mine is a lung condition too. There is a growth on my right lung. The hospital would love to investigate it, but not me......let go and let God, is how I feel at the age of 94.

Larry, both my Oxygen machine and the Albuterol machine are for my lungs, but I feel either or both could help your problem too. I know my heart  beats like crazy when I need the other things. I have been so low the past two weeks, I woke this morning and said, "do you prefer to die laying in bed, or would you rather start doing your walks and drop dead?" So I have started walking with my cart again. And I feel better because I have walked today. Still need to take time out for the oxygen machine, but that's o.k. with me, and I know I would not make it through the day without the albuteral . I think each one of us has to make our own choices and do as our mind and body requires. And pray...without God we are nothing.

Gloria de, for me the nebulizer is a part of life. The oxygen helps, but I could skip a bit and still make it. However the Albluteral clears the top part of the lungs, so breathing comes much easier.

Janie, I don't know how you continue to work with your poor hands so ill, and you still have all the things you do at home. I need to do exactly as you are.....paper work that is worthless and needs to spare my kids. I admire you SO much for all you do, and I pray God gives you the strength to do what is still essential. Hugs, girl.

I am running late for supper so will bid you all a very Blessed and safe and peaceful
Good night while God is watching over all of us. Thanks be to God. Iove you my friends. June

Sounding like our old June! I have been hanging around to see if you showed up tonight... you are a treasured part of my life, June. Cas went to a lung specialist to see if oxygen would help him, but was not his problem. His was strictly a weak heart muscle and pills did help that. Love hearing that you are going to "live until you die"... as I told my doctor I plan to do. God give you the strength to enjoy and be enjoyed every day for the rest of your life! God Bless, sweet dreams and a little of Joan's Angel Dust......  Tisie/Shirley

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLORIA DE, LARRY, JOY, MISS ELLEN AND MY OWN GRANDDAUGHTER, NATALIE!

Today was a very good day!  My neighbor cleaned the snow off my driveway.  I did the laundry and cleaned out one more file drawer, put some stuff away and got ready for the dynamo to come tomorrow while I'm at work.  I can come home to a nice clean house.

JUNE, congratulations to you!  You're attitude is one that I truly admire.  I'm so glad I "know" you!  And thank you for your concerns for me.  My hands are "sometime painful".  When they get too cold is the worst but some days I don't even know "Arthur" is around!  Today was good.  There are always little sore spots but they are bearable and I just try to ignore them.

Now I'm off to bed!  I hope you all had a day as good as mine and that tomorrow is even better!  May God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's COLD today.  We got snow yesterday, then sleet, then rain, then more sleet.  The front sidewalk is treacherous!  I had shoveled it off while it was raining but now it's one solid sheet of ice with a dusting of snow on top.

It was 32º when I got up this morning and it's gone down to 30 in the meantime.  I'm mostly ready for the cleaning dynamo.  In addition to the house being clean when I get home from work, she'll feed the doggie their noontime snack at noon.  They like her when she does that.  And she'll let them out once or twice while she's here.  They like that too.

I'm taking some papers along to make a quick stop at the Electric company on my way home to see if there's anything else I need in order to get a small rebate for the insulation.

I wish you all a very good day.  Stay warm!  Stay dry!  Love well!

It is supposed to be warmer here and I can see the glow of the sun coming up over the hill across the creek.  It will be welcome after two days of cold rain.  I plan to go get the car inspected so I can renew my registration.  Not looking forward to it but the inspection place is not far, the waiting room is comfortable and has wi-fi so I can take my pad and read.  The sports program on tv that they always have turned on is really boring.

Happy Birthday (late, as usual) to Gloria de and Larry. I hope you both had an easy and enjoyable day.

Good to see longer posts from June and Larry even though you are both struggling right now.  I think of you often, with a prayer to go along with the thought.

I watched Best in Show at Westminster dog show last night.  Always love seeing the dogs.   A wire-hair took top prize.   I was pulling for "Bean", the Sussex Spaniel.  His grandfather took Best a couple of years ago.  His name was "Stump".  Their owner's have a wonderful sense of humor.

I must be up and away.  Stay well, All.

As always a day late but a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLORIA de  and LARRY.

Good morning everyone. Did not have to cancel my CNA yesterday. Once it started snowing and knowing the parking area here she called and asked if there were amy places open. T here is 3 rows for parking and half of the third row is for visitors where she would have to park. Since snow was coming down all cars in the first row had to move so the other 2 rows were full. She was glad because the roads were not too good by that time. They have to keep the front row clear in case of an emergency for a rescue and fire truck and police‪ car whenever anyone pulls the emergency cord. The snow piled up fast when it started but we only got 31/2 inches. Goodness one would think it was a foot or more the way the weather guessers were  talking about it. I did enjoy watching the snow comin‌g down. Slept a lot of the afternoon away. I took chicken stock out of the freezer and made soup, sure tasted good. I have one more container of the stock in the freezer.

AMY  I did enjoy the quiet day, always seems more quiet when it is snowing. I used to love being outside at those times. So quiet and one can even hear the snow hitting the ground.  Hope your son got through that storm OK.

JANE  it turned to sleet here for several hours as it got dark. We have had so little snow so far this winter that yesterday's doubled it. Looks like we get no more of the normal snowfalls of a foot or more several times a winter. From the first of December we only had 3 inches of it.

JUNE  I think we are better if we keep moving. I know I sure do. If I cannot go outside I go downstairs to see who is around and always find someone.

LLOYD  hope you can get that fiberglass fixed soon and your taxes filed so you can get another trip in.

AMY  10 inches of snow? I think everyone here except our generation would panic to see that much at one time.

JANE  hope your registers are away from the door today.

Have a good day.

as usual a bad pinny returns Here I am but with a good tip for you ladies.
whether you bought your own flowers or your sweet heart did. if you have roses or other cut flowers. I bought Nancy a dozen red roses. take a quart of warm water, warm as you can stand as you would test on your wrist as you would for baby formula. put a teaspoon of sugar and a couple drops of bleach in it. cut the stems about 3/4" off of the bottom at a angle.put them in the solution , repeat every 2-3 days. that will make them last fresh for 2 -3 weeks longer. it is 28º and partly cloudy. Have a great day.

Hi Everyone.  It is a truly beautiful day here today with sun and breezy weather.  Yesterday we set a new high record for our area in our area of 80 degrees but it was rainy.  They predicted we would get some severe thunderstorms and while we had about an hour of rain late in the day I didn't hear any thunder.  I did get a good night of bed sleep last night, which always helps.  Scott came out and spend an hour or so with us and brought me some birthday cookies.  I have a light schedule for today with a friend coming at 10 am to work with me for an hour.  Sometime today my new Chromebook, computer-tablet is being delivered so I will be spending a little time getting it set up. Pat and Scott plan on going to the Wednesday night dinners at the Church and I will have a little piece of the dinner I had a couple of days ago at Diablos.

I won't have time to complete my posting for today   before my friend arrives but if not will be back later.

Gloria, this bad weather has to be a nightmare for schools since each day missed must be made up before the end of the school year.  Too bad you had to cancel your CNA for the reason you stated.  Too much chatter does get on a persons last nerve.

Amy, was glad to see your son had made it safely home.  Glad you have your wood stove so you can stay warm.

2nd time I got up so will stay up this time, got my zzzzzzzzs in. Everyone sounds happy this morning, of course, some are being greedy about the snow.  :tissue: Weather guessers saying it will be warmer today & tomorrow but the bottom drops out overnight Thursday. I really would not complain (read my lips) if we got snow, but not much chance. I will drag the hose around again today to water those poor trees, shrubs and early flowers that are sticking their noses out of the ground, and hopefully wash the car. None of the do it yourself places are open. I don't remember them ever closing in the winter before.

You were right, Lloyd, it was too cold yesterday, I came in chilled to the bone. I think I mentioned that I have a little boo-boo on both sides of the back of my RV. One happened at the place I took it for work to be done (under warranty). I noticed a piece of red reflector laying by the back wheel but didn't even look to notice it was MINE. Saw someone riding around on a 4 wheeler that may have been the one that did it, but since it was laying where the RV was parked, nothing near they could have back into. Anyway, a neighbor pulled into the driveway & clipped the other side as he backed out. He did call & offer to have his insurance pay to fix, but I knew he had already had too many claims and might lose insurance, so let it go. I feel like putting a sign on both sides saying, "I didn't do it".  ;) I don't trust the cameras so have gotten out more than once to see for myself how far I am from something. The red "marker" light that was broken was hit hard enough to mess up the wiring & doesn't come on, but it's passenger side so just put a new red cover over & let it go, only paint damage shows. Sorry yours will need the fiberglass fix, hope you find a good one & paint matches!

Larry, glad to see you are doing a little better today & hope you feel stronger every day. My mother had a theory that when we didn't have an appetite we should eat what keeps the machine running and then stretch the tummy with something that sounds good (lots of ice cream?) so the tummy doesn't shrink & not get hungry. Made sense to us.   My sister & I were terrible eaters as kids so poor mother was always trying to bribe us to eat more. She had the three boys first & they ate everything in sight!

Gloria, you sound chipper this morning, wish I was there to see your snow... you & Amy!!! I do feel deprived. Maybe I should have mentioned Mom's theory to you before since you don't have an appetite. Might try it. Soup sounds good, I have cans of broth, both chicken & beef, that need to be used before expiration date. Have the heart of celery that I love in any kind of soup.... maybe potato, celery & onion.  Also bought some ham shanks to cook with a pot of pinto beans. I love those & freeze ZipLoc tubs to have later, but think I've used up my supply. I do enjoy eating, drives my friend nuts that I don't gain weight & she gains just listening to me tell about it.

Almost 10:00 so better get on with house work so I can get outside this afternoon. My yountest son is stopping by after he gets off work ... he is the neat one, never anything out of place in his room & now house. My little piles of stuff drives him nuts, not that he mentions but I can see it in his eyes.  ;)   My problem is when I put things away I forget where. Still looking for the charge cord & old battery for the GPS that I put away last week. I want to see if the old battery will charge with the new cord before throwing it away. I charged the new battery & so thrilled it whizzed right up with the new cord, I quickly put away the old parts. Know I didn't throw it away... what can I say, always looking for something.

CallieKat is laying over on the couch snoring so loud it's funny. She wanted out last night after their midnight snack & wasn't at the door when I went to bed so spent the night out. I know she has hidey holes to stay warm, but she is old & has been sleeping inside all winter. She was here for breakfast & not wanting out yet! They will go out in a couple hours & enjoy. Tom has been out & back in a couple times already, off to the basement where he sleeps on a double thick egg crate type mattress that came out of the Rialta. I had cut one of the twin mattresses in half for Andy's old dog the last trip she made to Colorado. He put a sleeping bag over the top for her & I'm saving for the next pet that needs it. Tom thinks I put it on the treadmill just for him.  ::)

Phyllis, KS doesn't have car inspections anymore!  Can't remember when they stopped, but I do remember it being a pain in the neck. I still have not gotten out to see if tail lights are on when "running" light are auto on. Lights are required when windshield wipers are needed during rain. I don't think they do come on so have been turning on headlights when raining to play safe... a law in KS that "wipers on, lights on" & I don't want a ticket.

Amy, I can understand why you would be so concerned about any medicine that destroys the immune system. I was turned down from getting on the heart replacement list because I had the prostate cancer and if they killed my immune system it would let my cancer go wild.

Jane, glad to see you put safety first yesterday regarding yourself and others.  One can't blame the doggies for not wanting to get out in the bad weather  and I expect the snow and ice are unpleasant to their little paws.

Callie, I know what you mean about how seeing the sun brightens out day literally and also mentally. Sparrows have to eat too.  :)

Shirley, do you use the light weight garden hoses that retract when the water is turned off and drained out them.  I have a couple of those but didn't use one in the back at all this last summer and the other one only a couple of times. When I read the terrible effects a medication can have a side effects or they state all of those on those incessant TV commercials I wonder why would anyone want to take it.  Of course I know many of these side effects only happen to a small percentage of people but your daughter was one of the unfortunate ones. I think I probably fit a bit into the category that your Cas had although I think the oxygen is helpful since sometimes I feel like I am drowning by not being able to get enough oxygen.  Of course I have never drowned so not sure how that would feel.  I am thankful for the medications I have that keep the angina pretty well under control. Last night for my dinner I had about a half cup of soup (more like a vegetable and beef stew), a little of a corn bread muffin and about half of a cookie.  Sometimes it just takes too much breath and energy to eat more.  I don't remember ever leaving a half cookie uneaten in my whole life.

June, glad you have decided not to be unhappy.  I think we all probably feel better if we are able to get dressed for the day even if that is all we can do and I know there are times when that is overwhelming.
One of the adages I fall back on often is that "it is what it is". I do use oxygen with my CPAP machine in the afternoons and at night.  There has been no indication that my situation relates to my lungs other than they are not getting enough oxygen as my heart is so weak.  You know we all love you.

Lloyd, I hope you have success in getting hold of the person to repair your motor home.  I didn't know all of that about keeping the roses fresh longer.

Phyllis, we don't have car inspection in South Carolina, at least not here.  Since we lived in the Atlanta we did have the annual inspection and it was always a time of concern that the older car wouldn't pass.

Gloria, I am happy to see your CNA was able to come after all yesterday but hope she wasn't as chatty as usual.  I think the weather forecasters really over hype the weather situation.  We experienced the same thing yesterday when our severe storm and alerts just turned out to be a normal rain.  I am glad you try to get out of your apartment everyday if you are able and that you don't isolate.

Blowing snow is making it difficult to see now. We did get all the snow removed and I got another load of wood  put in the garage to bring in the house when the wood box runs low. Looks like tomorrow will be the same dance, I could do some now but will wait till tomorrow.
We lose our power from 9-12 then 1-4 tomorrow as they are putting the lines over on the new poles.
Right now it is like the 401 hwy in here....pup running full out with Babe close behind him. I would love that energy!!

Take care everyone and stay warm.

I came home from work and the house was all shiny clean and the dogs had been snacked and out and I had nothing to do but get a big drink of water and then take a nap.  I didn't even check in here.

We're supposed to be getting more snow this afternoon and this evening but it hasn't amounted to much.  Thank you, God!

Now I have a whole day free to do as I please.  I wish you all such a day!

AMY, I'm sure you won't have that kind of day but whatever it is you do with it, you'll enjoy it for sure!

I'm off to watch some TV.  I woke up in tim to watch the end of Schindler's List.  That was a great movie!  I think I'll see what's on now. Bye for now![/color][/b]

Don't think I  will be staying up much longer.
Have a great evening everyone.

I'm so glad I had yesterday. Today someone stuck a pin in my balloon. Woke at four, fighting to find some peaceful breaths....no luck, so called down for albuterrol, which was promptly delivered. The night nurse told when it was finished to press my lifeline button to have it shut off  and she said, DON"T do it yourself !!!! Just lay quietly in bed. So I did. Woke up four hours later. Missed my son's Bible Class at nine. as my energy was still in bed. What a waste. So it has been a slow day...a nurse from hospice came by and asked some questions, took my vitals....and I have been a do nothing' all day long. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I'm going to have a light supper, get all ready for bed...teeth, patch, etc. then go to bed and read till last meds come at 9 p.m.and look forward to a new start on Thursday.

I pray you all have a Peaceful, Blessed night, and a happy, refreshing strong tomorrow. I love, love, love you all. June

Larry, I do think Cas was hoping that oxygen would help when he went to see the lung specialist, and was disappointed that he didn't even think it worth trying.  That was when he started looking into the external one.  I know he kept the nitroglycerin  tablets on hand & had to get refills because they were out of date, so don't think he had the pain like you do.  He was willing to try anything to help, and I think you are right that pills are life savers for some and "poison" for others.

I do have 2 of the 75' shrink hoses & glad I got the 2nd one because I could not get the faucet to turn on in the center of the house in front, pretty sure Andy tightened it, so had to put them together to reach the end of the house to all across the yard. Cas had at least 6 or 8 of the real rubber, lifetime hoses from Sears & they are too heavy for me to haul around.  He has either 2 75' or 3 50' connected on one hose cart but takes a stronger arm than mine to wrap them up.  Plus he had more at 3 different faucets.  I hope to have one monster yard sale this spring since I've tried giving stuff to our kids but they already have what they want.  Trying to down size to save the kids the trouble.  We've been in this house 30 years & still have all the tools it took to build a house (and work on cars, etc).

Amy, I think I might change my mind about wishing for snow (& that's when we'll get lots), sure sounds like a lot of work.  I think I am getting lazy.  I'm  serious about that.  Chickened out on washing the car again today!  Wind has a bite to it no matter what the temp is!

June, sorry you had a bad night & bummer day.  Hope it is better tomorrow.  I marvel at the wonderful treatment you receive.  Not just dutiful but kind, it sounds like.

Gloria de.... was just thinking, did your husband always combine birthday & Valentine Day presents?  Mine was not a gift giver & usually whatever he got me for Christmas was also for birthday.  Later years he gave me money to pick out what I wanted (usually a new camera).  The last gift he gave me was money & I bought a new Ruger & got my "conceal carry" permit. He was pleased about that since I was the one to "defend" us always, I sleep with one ear open.

Jane, I'd love to find someone to work with me to clean this house, I haven't gotten caught up since Cas died going on 6 years.  Once caught up I could keep up with extra help maybe twice a month.  The cats to take up a lot of time cleaning after them, Tom & Callie were out a good part of the day but come INSIDE to use the litter box instead of digging a hole in the yard.  They will do business when I walk them down to the river, but have not been doing that every day, and they sure don't want to run out & back in!  I really did not know how pig headed cats are... , my birds were all better potty trained & would hop in to potty if they wanted to get on my shoulder.  Cats just stare at me with, "I can't hear you".....

Better get ready for bed, I need some deep sleep tonight, only got 9 min of deep sleep last night,  with my 6 hours & 26 min total.  Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Good morning everyone a whole 30° to start here this morning. Supposed to be nice and sunny and into the upper 30's. Better than freezing.

LLOYD  good tip on the flowers. I always cut my flowers on an angle but under running water, got that tip from a florist.

LARRY  good to read you had a good night's sleep in bed. That always helps. Even if I lay on the couch to watch TV when that CNA is here she never stops talking. Really starting to get on my nerves. She says people always need someone to talk to, well I like peace and quiet, guess I am not like most people she knows. Nice that your son and Pat were goio the dinner even if you couldn't this time. I know you always enjoyed going and meeting your friends there.

SHIRLEY  I still like seeing the snow, it is the cold I do not like anymore and I always loved winter and the cold before. The stock I made the soup with was some I made. Had chicken in the freezer and used that. It was good but as usual I made too much, must tink I am still making soup for a family? You made me think of my Mom, she put things away where she would remember and then could not find them. I try to have a place for every thing and put it back in the same place, does not always work though. We have had  the law of wipers on and lights on for many years. One girl I worked with said he father said he would not wear down his battery turning on the lights when it rained, wonder how many tickets he got for that.

AMY  we have a new tenant here and he has a dog, he said he is 3 years old but acts more like 3 months, Very energetic with the ears always up and interested in every thing and every one he sees. Like you I sure could use some of that energy.

JANE  I am with you, Schindler's List was a great movie.

JUNE  I hope today is much better for you.

Happy Valentine Day. Have a good day.

Good morning everyone..

Woke earlier to Babe barking, looked out but didn't see anything so we went back to bed.I just have to clean/snow blow out the  trails for the dogs this morning and deliver a quilt and that is it.

Gloria,I bet that dog will get spoiled...er well loved by everyone there!

Lloyd, that mud is just like grease making it difficult to move about in the barn yard. Many a time I have had to use the front end loader to get me going again.

Shirley, we call that wind a lazy wind. Rather go through you than around you!!

We are looking after the neighbours place/generator today after the power is cut. They both go to work today and we will just keep an eye on it and keep it fueled up if need be.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Car inspection is done....everything is OK.  Registration renewal check is ready to go in the mail.  That job is done for another year.  I wish that NC did not have car inspections.  However, this state has a legislature that will tax everything it can think of....and is constantly raising the tax rate.  Getting so expensive because of all the taxes that I sometimes think I should leave.  But, the thought of moving gives me the heebie-jeebies.  :o

And, speaking of expensive....grocery shopping today.  I would put it off but tomorrow is supposed to be rainy.  Yesterday was sunny and nice to look at but it had Amy's lazy wind.  Went right through me when I stepped outside.

Take care.

I'm up!  The doggies have been out, in, fed and out again!  I've accomplished one item on my list for today (unless you count making up the list. Then I've done 2).

I see you're all active today.  We're having a beautiful, sunshiny day, too.  I appreciate the sunshine but my eyes don't like it when there's driving to be done.  I think I'll try to get the outside errands done first today since leaving them for afternoon means I'd be driving west and that puts the sun directly into my eyeballs and my eyeballs don't like that!  The best time for driving on a sunny day is from about 10 to 2:30 while the sun is high in the sky.  That's what I'm aiming for.

It's sure nice to see daylight so early in the morning and so much later in the day!  It's a sure sign that Spring is coming!  We've had way too much of AMY'S "lazy wind" around here, too.

SHIRLEY, when my granddaughter located the cleaning dynamo for me, I had her weekly for about 6 months, then we went to 2 times a month and now she comes once a month.  It's just enough to keep the house "healthy".

GLORIA, my cleaning gal is willing to talk but it doesn't keep her hands still.  She doesn't stop for anything except on her way out the door.  That's when she likes to get set up for the next time just in case I'm not around when she comes.

JUNE, you must take care of YOU and it looks like that's exactly what your are doing.  The place where you are seems perfect!  Let them show you every kindness and help that you need.  But when you can, come visit with us, too.

I guess  better get started on my list if I want to be ready to leave the house by 10:30.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!  Especially the sunshine, if you have it.

Good morning on this pretty, sunny morning, but still very cold.  And, the prediction is for more snow coming on Sat. and then again, next Tues. and Wed.  I think that is enough.  But, I remember my grandfather always telling us that March can be a brutal month.  So, we have that to think about before spring arrives.  My sister-in-law lives about 25 or 30 miles south of me and she told me that she has daffodils coming up in the snow.  Her area are only gets less than 1/2 of the snow that my area gets.  However, we just have to be patient, as  we can't do anything about the weather.

June, I admire you so much for the way you look at life.  You are such an inspiration to us all.  Hope that you will feel better and able to enjoy today.  Glad that your health workers keep such a good check on you.  You are so fortunate to be living where you do.

Jane, do hope you get all your errands done without any problems.  And, have an enjoyable day being out.  and, yes, it sure is nice to notice that the days are getting longer in the evening.  I noticed last night that the sun was still shining at 5:30. And, the mornings getting lighter  a little earlier.  That is sure a good sign of spring being on the way.

Amy, sure am sorry that you are having more problems with the snow and keeping your electric going. It is good that they tell you ahead of time when the power will be off.  That gives you a little bit of time to make plans.  I guess you are just used to dealing with the snow shoveling.

Larry, glad to see you are feeling up to posting a little bit more.  I can understand how frustrating it is not to feel up to doing the things you want to do. But, it does sound like you are feeling a little better.

Gloria, we aren't supposed to have any animals here where I live, but there are people who get letters from their doctor's stating that they need a pet as  a companion.  However, I don't think that is true with everybody. The lady across the hall from me has a big dog that just barks and barks so much.  But, nobody seems to complain to the management about it.  I think there is supposed to be a limit to the size you have, also.  A lot of the residents have cats, too.  They aren't as noticeable as the dogs.  I had my share of dogs and I do not want any more.

I have to get a move on.  I have a grocery order coming at 11 a.m.  And, I still need to clean up my breakfast dishes and get dressed.

Phyllis, yes, groceries are getting more and more expensive.  I have been getting groceries at an independent store lately as they will deliver, but their prices are a lot more than when I was getting groceries from  Walmart.  This store has much better produce than Walmart, which I like. Just have to wind up paying the higher price.

Will end with a " Good Morning" to all of you who I might have missed.  I hope everyone will have a nice day and stay warm and dry if you are in that part of the country.

Joy

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, EVERYFRIEND!!!

I got about 2/3 of my list done but it's not because I didn't try.  I make some phone calls and had to leave messages for paper work I need.  No call back yet.  Oh Well, tomorrow is another day.

Now I have time to finish a couple of small jobs that didn't quite make it onto the list.  I hope Everyfriend's day is going well.  it was gorgeous here...cold but not bone chilling and the sun shone all day.  Makes one feel that life is worth living!

I keep losing posts, I post them, but they are gone with the wind. I left a short one this morning as my lunch was delivered and I had to eat. Oh, well with the condition the world is in what is one of my posts ?

This has been a good day, lots of rain, ending about mid afternoon.  I woke early with shortness of breath so had them bring up some albuterol, then on to the oxygen machine. The Blessing of science. I did get dressed, walked, did all my daily duties of prayer time, and visited the club house to renew old friendships I have neglected. I don't think, in this life time I will ever catch up with answering greeting cards from Christmas. Woe is me.

I am heating up leftovers from lunch for my supper and looking forward to a quiet night of t.v., reading, and blessed sleep. Not too many months past, I would never have settled for such a retired lifestyle, but I am content. This is like a new chapter in my life's book, so I will look forward to each new page as it turns. I love you dear friends, and God loves you even more......we are So Blessed. Hugs, Love and prayers, forever and ever. June

Good nigh Everyfriend and a special good night to you, JUNE!  We're happy to see your post whenever it comes.

I think I might need to invest in a new keyboard.  I hit all the right keys but sometimes they don't take and that includes the space bar.  I've been trying to figure out how old my keyboard is and I'm thinking it might be at least 10 years old...maybe more.  I'm going to look at those new fangled ones that were in DONKLAN's post and see if they are in my price range.  It will probably have to wait until my taxes are done and I have the refund in hand.

Finished a few more things on my list and redid the list for tomorrow.  With it being a work day, not much will be done but I'm hoping for some answers for today's phone calls.

Now, I'm off to Dreamland.  I wish you all a good night and a good tomorrow.  May God bless us, every one!

OK, I was last out and now I'm first in.  It's already 7:30 in central PA and I'm up and attem.  I've already accomplished 3 items on my list and I've put out a feeler for the 4th.  My doggies had their pill and I have my coffee.  SO WHERE IS EVERYONE?

Good morning everyone.
I was here Janie but a pup thought I should go outside with him. We have more snow to deal with this morning and I need to get Kyle's blister packs in town.
Will be back later.
Take care everyone.

Good morning everyone, 35° but no sun this morning, just a gray sky with rain coming later. Got my yearly meeting with the witch yesterday so I am set here for another year after she comes up to inspect my apartment. She always finds fault with something. Sorry but I can no longer keep the place spic and span like I used to. CNA can only do so much, no moving furniture to get under and in back of. No window washing either. Oh well.

LLOYD  I well remember the mud all around with spring thaws. At least here I no longer have to worry about it.

AMY  dogs are not allowed to go free here. They have to stay in the apartments and walked by the owners on a leash. Not many have dogs and they are small ones except for the seeing eye lab for the blind lady here. Never hear any barking either.

PHYLLIS  many gas stations were able to inspect cars here but now the state  has "official" places to go to and they do check everything. Always crowded, too. Makes me glad I no longer have a car. This state is tax happy, very few things are not taxed, clothes are not taxed.

JANE  it seemed like in my working days I always drove east going to work and west going home. Always had the sun in my eyes, thank goodness for good sunglasses. The CNA comes in and sits and starts talking as son as she comes in. I get tired of it so always have something for her to do and she talks the whole 2 hours she is here.

JOY  I missed having a dog for a long time, now I sure would not want the work involved in having one, I would not be able to take one out to walk an stoop down to pick up their mess. It is funny to see the ones with dogs carrying plastic bags with them to pick it up. Yuck.

LARRY  I do not have your medical problems but every time I have an appointment it takes a few days before I feel rested from the trips out.

JUNE  like you I never thought I would be content with doing just about nothing. I was always finding something to do.

JANE  like you my keyboard is an old one, the new one I bought will not work good with this lemon of a PC. I have to check everything I type because at times it skips a space in words and I have to back space or the key I hit does not show up.

Have a good day.

Good Morning from the cold but not
freezing,  rocky coast of Maine.

We got some snow,  but today most of that is going to
melt because the temperature is rising....   Yeah!
But it will be rainy so  I will not be getting out
any time soon.

Jane... Why don't you buy and inexpensive keyboard from
Walmart..  The keys on   your old one  are probably
sticking.. and it is time for a new one.   Keyboards are
not very expensive and even the cheaper ones will last
a long time as long as something doesn't get spilled on
them ..

Good luck and if the cheaper one works for a while,
perhaps in the future when you get a newer
computer,  you can try out the fancier keyboards.

I have found that the less expensive ones work
just as well and my fingers are used to them...
so they are easier to use.

Have a good day,  everyone and  stay warm and dry ..

Sandy

It is a beautiful morning here.  Bright sun and temps are up.  I plan to enjoy every minute of it.

I bought too much at the grocery store yesterday....don't I always?  And my delivery from Schwan's Foods came in the afternoon.  I had a challenge to find space for everything in the freezer but we are well stocked.  That always seems to be a big concern of mine.  You would think that I was raised in starvation.  My family was not rich....downright poor, sometimes during the Depression...but I don't remember EVER being hungry.

You sound better, June.  I'm so glad.

I hope Larry is doing well today.

Good morning,Sandy and Lloyd and Amy.  And, Gloria, your ears may be ringing from the constant chatter but look on the bright side, your appt. is clean and tidy and you don't have to move for a year.

Hi Everyone. Just a few words today.  I did get my new Chromebook on Wednesday but yesterday it went into a loop that I could not get it to stop.  I called ASUS technical support and the things he told me to do wouldn't stop the loop.  He agreed with me that I should return it to Amazon and request a replacement.  I did request a replacement and it is to be here tomorrow.  Now that is good customer service.  I have the return label and Pat or Scott will have to  drop it off at the UPS store in the next few days. I will read through the postings but don't have the energy today to write individual comments.  I seem to be getting weaker by the day.  Sure glad I don't have to go anywhere for several days.

I have been meaning to post this message I got a couple of days ago from our Joan.

Thanks. Only had one hand for over two months so hard to type with just one hand. Almost back to normal now. I have not been in the other discussion as it looks like I have to start all over again and have not been up for that. Maybe I can get my son to help me with getting in there.

What an interesting morning!!We picked up the blister packs and I picked up sugar that was on sale for $1.00 for a five pound bag...got 10 so I will have it for pickling/jam time. Came home and introduced myself to Mr SB and off we went , cleaned out the driveway and the back yard. Filled the wood box in the garage/shop and was going to go get a 3rd load for the house but the neighbour called. He was in a bind, his truck locked on him was still running and he was stuck!!  We went and got his second sets of keys an d off we went in search of him.  Found him, unlocked the truck and came home. On the way home people we flashing their lights at us and come to find out at the corner of the highway there had been a collison , don't think anyone was hurt but the front end of both vehicles was bashed in good..

That is enough for one day..now to have it peace and quiet.....I hope :)

SANDY and DONKLAN, the cheapest keyboard that WM has is what I'll probably get but I've been wondering aout those other ones since before DON posted his information so I'll probably take a look at them. It doesn't cost anything to look!

I'm going to go look for some zzzzzs on the sofa as soon as the doggies come in.  I'm really worn out today.

I've put off going out to the street to get the dumpster all day thinking I might work up the energy to go to the store... it is 20 degrees but feels like 1 degree... wind won't slow down. Good layer of ice with a dusting of snow or sleet (something white) on top. Burrrrrr.... I tried to chase the cats out but Tom refused, just backed up at the door & ran over to hide behind the couch. Tiger & Callie went out about 2 feet where no ice & sat until I told them to come on back in, which they did. Now I HAVE to make a trip out with the trash & to get that dumpster. Be back later unless I take a flying leap down the driveway!  :dizzy:

Made it out & back, unbelievable cold. Callie decided to go out with me & couldn't wait to get back in. She did not take time to potty but I did clean 2 litter boxes before going out, cats need to go on a diet~~ Really not an end to this weather, more blasts every few days. Guess it is better than the flooding in CA or the deep snows on the east coast. Not camping weather!
