So the Pope is SUPER early for his flight.
He asks his driver on his way to the airport if he could drive around for a while because they have time to kill and he hasn't driven a car since becoming the pope.

Naturally, he's a bit rusty, so he's driving poorly, when suddenly he sees police lights behind him. He pulls over and when the officer comes up to the window his eyes go wide. He says to the pope "Hold on for a minute," and goes back to his car to radio the chief.
Cop: "Chief we have a situation. I've pulled over an important figure."
Chief: "How important? A governor or something?"
Cop: "No sir. He's bigger."
Chief: "So, what? a celebrity or something?"
Cop: "More important, sir."
Chief: "A major politician?"
Cop: "No sir, he's much more important."
Chief: "WELL WHO IS IT!?"
Cop: "Well actually I'm not sure. But the pope's his driver."

Q. What's the difference between a jeweler and a prison guard?

A. A jeweler sells watches, and a prison guard watches cells!

From a  Seniornet member of old

Food For Thought-
Some times when I am  relaxing
and have time for a little thought,
I think of what a life times worth ,
if a life time could be bought.
The good times and the not so good ,
the smiles and all the tears.

How is it possible to value these ,
that have built through out the years.
The priceless memories  gathered,
and all the emotions that you find,
Love within your heart and soul ,
   the essence of all mankind.
The friendships that seem to blossom,
that were kindled on the way
How these they just kept growing,
and help you cope with each new day.

I have come to this conclusion,
that  this is how it should be,
Life times  are precious to us all,
that's why they are  given free.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday, late afternoon, we had a brief storm, wind thunder, lightening and strong wind. Lasted maybe 15 minutes and the temperature dropped. 66° now and feels so good. On another good thing, my son and DIL took me out  for supper, local restaurant was having baked stuffed lobster special (still expensive). Oh it was so good, of course I could not finish mine so it will be my meal today. Stuffed with the cut up tail and claws, scallops and shrimp. I did not touch the veggies but did have most of my salad but wanted  to save room for the lobster. I have not had lobster in about 7 years so I really enjoyed every bite. Seems like every time they take me out to eat it is to the shore for chowder and clamcakes. love that, too. We sit there and watch  surfers on the water and enjoy the smell of the salt air.

LLOYD  glad they finally got your phone and internet running right. About time, right?

CALLIE  if you remember Hitchcock's Lifeboat he appeared  as a picture on a newspaper they had.

JANE  I have read many times small meals are better than big meals where we might eat too much. I read they call it grazing. Now "they" make us want to be like cattle, just graze all day.:(

BUBBLE  thanks for a new page for August. Great graphics and jokes Love the words of Wisdom. Hope it has cooled off some where you are.

ROLEY  thank you, both links opened but the second one faster.

Have a good day.

Good morning  everyone..
A beautiful morning here, no humidity as of yet!!

Yesterday went well, stopped at the places I needed to before hubby's appointment in and out of Costco by 10 . To the Dr and he is leaving...but will do appointments by skype but have to see him once a year and that is not going to work for us. Met daughter in love for lunch ,dropped my treadle sewing machine off and came home tuckered. All in all a good day.

Today is cleaning out a fridge.so you know what we will have for supper tonight ...refrigerator surprise!

Gloria, I bet that lobster was so delicious, and the best part you got to enjoy it with your son and dil.

Roley, good morning, love your arm chair trips. Will watch later with my cuppa tea.

Bubble thank you for the new start, funnies and words of wisdom. Words to live by for sure.

Jenny belated Happy Anniversary to you and Bob may you be blessed with many more!!

Jane, glad to read you are enjoying your IP ....now if we could get Joy to enjoy hers. Can you post the recipe for the chicken please.

Lloyd, so happy to read you have both internet and phone fixed. I had a big surprise the other day when I phoned our service, got a really nice English speaking lady living not that far from me...not someone I couldn't understand in a far away land.

Mary Ann, I am going to see if our GP is comfortable in doing the job..that would save a lot of travelling for us.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for a bit and decided not to sit down here until I did at least one thing that I've been putting off.  So right now there's a "Buttermilk Pecan Pie" in the oven with about 10 minutes to go.  After I tak that out, I'll go get myself dressed and ready for a trip to the dumpster.  Trash is piling up!

Roley/Peter, I'm also one who enjoys your "walks".  I wish I could do it in person but having yours to look forward to, is a special treat.  I loved my past visits to England and would love to visit again but that's not going to happen.  So keep the "walks" coming.  I'll be joining you!

AMY, I got the recipe for the chicken from "Taste of Home".  It's called "Pressure Cooker Saucy BBQ Chicken Thighs".  I was going to try posting the link but part of it is missing from my copied recipe.  Shouldn't be any trouble to find.  Taste of Home is a pretty good site.  Sorry about my stupidity.  If you can't find it let me know and I'll email it to you!

I better close this up because it's almost time for the pie!  Enjoy your day Everyfriend.  It's yours!  Grab it and make it work for your!

The sun is coming up over the trees even though we are "supposed" to have thunderstorms today.  We'll see....Mother Nature likes to play games with us.

I think I took care of the problem with having to buy a new lawn mower.  I shopped online at the local home improvement stores.  I found the mower that I think I want but nowhere was it available for pick-up. It seems most of these places now only keep sample models at the store and if you want the machine delivered you have to wait quite awhile to fit into their schedule....and, on top of that, you pay a delivery fee.  So, I went on-line to Amazon and did a lot of looking and comparing with other brands and reading several consumer articles about pros and cons of different brands of electric lawn mowers, found the one I want, ordered it and it will be delivered, with no shipping charges to my door tomorrow.  I love Amazon!

I wanted some comfort food last night so pulled some dried navy beans from the pantry.  Rinsed 1 cup of beans, added 4 cups of water and put it with some bacon, onion, and seasonings and put it in the Instant Pot.  Less than an hour later I had satisfying bean soup...no soaking of the beans, no hours and hours of simmering in a steamy kitchen, no having to watch and stir....just set the pot and left the room.  Along with crackers, chunks of Tillamook Cheddar cheese, and homemade applesauce we had a good dinner.

Jane, my doctor told me that it is better to eat 5 small meals or snacks per day rather than 3 full meals as long as I was snacking on healthy food.  Much better for the digestion and metabolism.  I'm more comfortable with a small meal now....especially at dinnertime.  A bowl of soup and a small helping of fruit last night was just right.

Jenny, I'm sorry I missed your anniversary.  How nice you were able to celebrate with family and had such a good day.  I add my very late best wishes to you and Bob for many more anniversary celebrations.

I hope it is a good day for everyone.

Good morning.  Thank you, Bubble for the new page and the cute jokes.  Also the Words of Wisdom.

It is a pretty sunny morning, but I haven't heard any weather reports so far today.

First of all,  Happy Belated Anniversary wishes to Jenny and Bob.  It sounds like you are really enjoying your Boston vacation.

Amy, no, so far I just haven't gotten brave enough to try the IP.  Maybe I will get around to it when I feel better. That might be something that I can look forward to doing.

I am waiting to hear from the doctor with the results from a test and then she gave me a new medicine to start.  I sure hope it will help.  I did sleep a little bit better last night, but already have had a short nap this morning.

Roley, I do plan to go back and look at the video you posted the link for.  Than you.

Gloria, I had to laugh when you said you could still picture your mother beating up the egg whites.  That sure  made me think of my mother doing the same thing.  I kept the bowl and fork she used for a long time, but I think it probably got broke or lost in one of our moves.

I am so glad that you got to go out for lobster.  I think I have only had an actual lobster once or twice, but my favorite is a lobster roll.  I have found one local place that has good ones, but I have only been there one time.  When I was up in Connecticut a few years ago, we went to a place and I asked about the  warm ones and the warm ones seem to be more popular in the southern NE states.  However, that is what I got, and I sure prefer the cold ones better.

Phyllis, I am glad you were able to find a new mower that you wanted on Amazon.  Seems like they have everything.  My mailman told me the other day that it won't be long before Amazon goes out of business.  ??  I questioned  that and he said that it is what he has heard. I thought I read somewhere that Amazon had the biggest sales of any type of place like that.  I don't know where he heard that, but he was very adamant that it was true.  I seriously doubt that will happen. I shop a lot there, also.  I have told my sons that they can give me an Amazon gift card anytime as a gift when they don't know what to buy me. LOL  And, that is what they do now.

Jane, your pie sounds delicious.  You are so ambitious to have a pie already made so early in the day.  I hope you will enjoy your day off today.  Although a trip to the dump isn't all that exciting.

Amy, I have never heard of having a doctor's appointment on Skype.  That must be something new.

Lloyd, glad you have everything working good now.  Hope it all continues to work well.

Good morning to all the ones who come in later. Have a great day,

Joy

JOY, just a quick note...I don't take my trash to the dump.  The dumpster is the one behind my son's store that serves the store and the apartments above.  I save a little money by taking mine up there and tossing it in the dumpster.  Most of the people who collect around here, charge by the can and I never have a can full.  So I save a little this way.  I also get a quick visit with my son if he's in the store!

Joy,  Amazon is building a huge distribution center in Oklahoma City and has advertised they will be hiring 1500 people. Maybe they're changing locations.

A "Not So Hot" weather front has moved through.  Wouldn't you know I've done all my errands for thr week?
Shirley, weather guru said it's 71 in Kansas City.  Hope you're cool, too.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

I've been & read 3 or 4 times this morning & thought I'd left a message but now remember what I did.  I had it typed but wanted to check something before posting & forgot to do it with a different "page" & lost my post. Dumb, dumb thing to do but I did it. :tissue:

Bubble, beautiful graphics & enjoyed the funnies & Food For Thought. Thank you.

Callie, how did COOL reach you & not pass through Kansas?  Sweltering here, hate waking up to 80° & humid. Tom didn't come home this morning so don't know where he hid out all night. He & Tiger usually spend the day inside but Callie Cat prefers the outside heat. I think the AC bothers her.

Jane, so lucky you have that option, my dumpster isn't half full most of the time but cost is the same. I feel like celebrating when it is chucked full of yard waste... cutting down those redbud, mulberry & elm trees that spring up all over my yard... I should cut down the rest of the lilies, iris, etc. foliage, but too hot! Not even any litter box clean outs as they have all been using the outdoor places.

Phyllis, me & Amazon have a very good relationship as well. I can't imagine Amazon going out of business but getting any kind of help at most stores is a problem anymore. I do feel sorry because so many stores have cut back on help to the point the ones remaining are so exhausted trying to fill the shoes of several people, I feel pity that they have to be there. I don't know the solution but shopping on the computer is easier than running around from store to store to find the best buy!

I'd better get a move on, have several errands to run & will stop for fast food on my way home. Not sure which place my little Red will pull in to.... but I am starved now!

Shirley,it would have been Miss Emily who was "cool".  I was just "Not So Hot"....meaning the heat index was 98º instead of 105º.  "They" say the humidity is lower, too - but it's still uncomfortable.  8)

good evening everyone. well I have just been reading the posts. my brain started thinking a little bit, thinking about how we have all gotten soft in our old age. when i was 6 or 7 years old we never even had a electric fan, we would toss a blanket folded on the front porch, strip off and lay on it take a Nap in the afternoon.some times under shorts and sometimes buck necked no one had any problem with it in them days, now days would get you arrested and charged with indescendant exposure. but I do not worry about that now days we have a good central AC. and these hot days I spend lot of time on the easy chair enjoying it.

I like to shop on line too and I can usually find what I'm looking for at Amazon. But when it comes to paying the bill, they won't le me back on.  I think they're trying to make my payment late so I have to pay a fee on it.  I never have any trouble signing in to buy but I have had to change my password numerous times to pay!

The pie was delicious but there was too much of it so I stowed the remains in the Hidey Hole.  If anyone wants to try a piece of Buttermilk Pecan Pie, help yourself!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cool this morning and not supposed to be as hot as it's been.  Also, we're expecting rain this afternoon so I won't have to drag my hose out.

I slept better last nigt than I have in about a week.  Feel better this morning...not exactly "bright eyed and bushy tailed" but today has to be better than yesterday.  Yesterday started out pretty good and then went downhill fast!

Today is a Wally World day so wish me smiles and short lines.  I wish you all a great day.  Grab it and make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone, a wonderful 62° now. No AC last night, just a fan in front of the window pulling in cooler air. Love it. If the rest of the summer was like this I would not complain, well maybe not too much. ;)

Roley/Peter  I enjoyed yesterday's walk again. I enjoy all that you post, seeing the buildings that are so old compared to what we have and the beautiful country views. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

AMY  I cleaned out the rest of that lobster shell yesterday and enjoyed almost as much as I ate Wednesday at the restaurant. Every last bite of it. Great isn't it when we make a call or get one where the person speaks our language. I am so tired of trying to understand some of those who do not know how to speak our English and don't understand it either. Wish we had a few GP's around, so tired of internists who send you to this specialist or that one.

LLOYD  my daughter has a disk where they live and the other day they were without internet, every time there is a storm between us we have terrible connection on Skype. No cable out in the boonies where they live.

JANE  I love pecan pie but never had a buttermilk one.

PHYLLIS  have you ever found a bag of 15 beans for soup? Comes with a packet of seasoning and tastes so good. I bought a bag during the winter and then realized I would not be able to cook it so gave it to my oldest son, he made it and gave me some and I really enjoyed it. He now has a couple bags of it in the cupboard and come cold weather again he will make some and I will get to enjoy it, too.

JOY  one thing I miss is making backed rice pudding like my Mom made.  The old bowl I used to make it in got broken and the new smooth shiny bowls do not work. Old is better at times. I never heard of warm lobster rolls and I am in Southern New England. We are next to Conn on the west and Mass north and east. South side is the Atlantic.

CALLIE  a few years ago Amazon built a warehouse in Mass. not to far from here. They hired a lot of people.

SHIRLEY  those mulberry trees are a pain the way they multiply and drop all those leaves and things from them. My SIL planted one in Ca. but did not take long for him to dig it up and get rid of it.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Gloria, I've bought the 15 Bean soup mix many times and will do it again when cooler weather sets in.  We are big soup eaters in this house and have it often.  You're right, it makes very good soup.  I almost bought some yesterday but, in stead, decided to get Green Split Pea to keep in the pantry.

A little cooler here today.  Raleigh had heavy rain storms and flooding yesterday but here, just a few miles away, we got only a light rain that didn't last long.  More is predicted for today.  We'll see what happens.

I used some homemade mustard last night after it had mellowed for a couple of days.  It was very good and I probably will make it soon again. So easy to make.  I still can't find Coleman's mustard powder so used McCormick's. It worked just fine, I think.  I used it plus yellow mustard seeds and added some balsamic vinegar.  I want to try making some with brown mustard seeds to see if there is much difference.   I like coarse ground mustard better and this batch is very tasty.

Breakfast is calling.  Make it a good day.

Fantastic Friday to one & all..... busy day ahead, pick up my daughter at the airport about noon so we can have lunch & visit a few hours until her son picks her up, she spends the night with them & back on a plane with her oldest 2 grands so they can have a visit with their Grammy & Grandad in St.Louis. I think "Grammy & Grandad" are planning too many daytime activities & will be surprised to discover the kids will want to hang out at their house because they have everything a kid could dream of.

Note from the insurance lady that she is getting an estimate for the roof & so that will stop bothering me that she has been delaying & making us jump through hoops "because she can". I assume the verdict was what our paperwork from 2006 said, but she didn't put it into words. The roofer asked if they could store all the supplies on top of the house because "every storage unit is full from suppliers to roofers". The cost of the roof is about 3x what we paid for our first house, so guess it is safer up there than on the ground anywhere. He is going to be out of town for a week & doesn't want a crew working without him being here, even though his son is in business with him. I like that kind of care.

Gloria, it is a tad cooler here this morning but stayed hot all night. Tom ate his breakfast & headed for the basement to sleep all day. He was missing all day yesterday, I'm guessing got trapped in someone's garage & didn't get home until nearly dark. If he sees a human he freezes in place & won't move as long as he can see them. We had storms/showers during the night but most of the rain skirted past us. Tom is so afraid of everything, just he was happy to be home. Didn't know anyone planted mulberries, they are the worst "weeds" we have. When they grow big enough to have the berries they are an even worse mess. Too bad nobody has found a use for them but took me only once of trying to "rinse them off" to eat or cook.... & never tried again. The whole top of the water was solid tiny bugs & was no way to get them all off. I still shudder to think about it. Every now & then a new neighbor will allow a tree to grow & bear fruit & it's cut down before then next year. Birds will eat the berries & poop purple all over the sidewalks & vehicles & even around the pool. Can't get that stain off.

Oops, you popped in, Phyllis. I made the mustard from the recipe that Amy (I think) sent me. My sons thought it was wonderful when out camping last year. I'm not a big mustard eater but they had no problem finishing it off. I prefer my meat to just have the meat flavor, what ever it is, even a hotdog I like plain. I have a niece that lives in the Raleigh area, retired now, Doctor of Geriatric Medicine & last I heard monitored meds for several nursing homes. She also had some kind of practice private. Too many nieces & nephews all over the US, only see them at funerals.

Better get moving, have not had my breakfast yet & time doesn't stand still.  Hope each one has a day of pleasure, whether getting a job done or having fun... enjoy!  Shirley

Good morning everyone..

Yes ,it is still morning....just!!  I slept in and hit the floor running. I wanted to do a bit of grocery shopping before the stores got packed but too late. I did pick up a few things at another store  I knew wasn't packed like a sardine can . Our town will be one mass of people this weekend, we are a tourist which we deal with in summer but this weekend has a special yearly event and it draws folks in from all over the world.

Picked beans and snow peas yesterday and had them with bass a friend had caught and gave us. Oh my it was so good!!

Gloria, I love the cooler temps and wouldn't mind if it stayed this way till fall.

Shirley, I have just phoned a lad to get part of our roof re shingled and he is running 3 weeks behind. Our job is not big and can wait even until next year if need be. When we were in business we would get these people do the work as we know it is quality work done by them.

Phyliss we also love soup, in fast we just had some beef barley soup for lunch.

Jane , I also have not had buttermilk pecan pie but I am heading to the hidey hole to try it. I will leave some bran muffins in there too .Have a great day at work with lots of smiling faces.

Enjoy your day everyone..

I got home from work, tired right down to my toenails so I saw to the doggies, had a sandwich, took pups for a short walk and went to the sofa.  It was loaded with zzzzzs and now I feel normal!

AMY, etc. I'd never had the buttermilk pecan pie before but I think I like it better than the regular.  It's not so super sweet and I can eat a little bigger piece and still crave more.  The color will take some getting used to because the milk lightens it considerably.

We're having a bit of rain right now and there are warnings of heavy storms to come.  I think we might be in for the night...maybe a sprint out before bedtime.

The customers were all nice.  I wish I could say the same for management...what there was of it.  I think one or two who moved on have not been replaced and the rest are being run ragged.  It's not easy finding someone to talk to when you need them.  And I need them NOW!

There are certain pieces of women's clothing that I wish would become unnecessary.  And that's all I'm saying on that subject.

I dislike mosquitoes intensely!  Also gnats, flies, ants and most black things that fly!!!

There was once a movie that touted the fact that Flies were an invention of the devil and I'm willing to buy into that!

In the meantime, stay cool, stay dry, stay calm!  Enjoy the rest of your day!

I just went back and read the farmer.  Aside from the fact that I've ALWAYS been a fan of Paul Harvey, my grandfather was a lifetime farmer and my father grew up on a farm and could make ANYTHING grow!  And I spent a lot of summer hours on my grandparents farm as I grew up.  Thank you for sharing that!

Amy from the bottom Of my Heart thank you for shearing that with us.  I have lead a full Life and still going, started out at six years of age delivering grocery's Papers and mowing yards with a old real push mower. at age seven got a job in a blacksmith shop creaking the hand blower for the forge and stoking the fire. so the blacksmith could sharpen two plow shears at same time,me heating one while he was sharping the other one. by eight years I had learned and had forge welded points on plow shares and toe bars on draft horse shoes. made shoes from scratch out of bar stock. at ten years i had shoed genital draft horses. I done this after school until dark and on Saturday's. if I had not told you all before My farther was murdered when I was just six years so had to help put food on our table. by twenty I had my own blacksmith and welding shop, witch I ran until I got drafted into the army. I made the rank of specialist e5 in thirteen months. should have stayed in military for a core. was in my MOS open to warrent officer two. possible i would made it in twenty two or three years. i would be able to draw up to 2500 $ now per month. oh well life goes on and I am still living a good life now. see you all tomorrow. sweet dreams.

Good morning everyone.
Well, I didn't sleep in this morning..laundry day today right after I get back from town. We will get in and get out before the sardine effect happens.

Lloyd, you're welcome. I, to can relate to a lot of what Paul Harvey says. Staying up late ,pulling calves.or lambs and then tryin to pump breath in them when they don't seem to want to breath. But you never give up on them.....some you win and some you don't. All in all farming is hard but the rewards are great!!

I had better get ready for town.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, had just the fan in the window last night, gave the AC a rest. 61° now at 6:30 am. Nice.

PHYLLIS  my Mom used whole yellow peas for her pea soup. That is what  I was used to but these days they are hard to find. Most of what they carry around here are the split green ones.

SHIRLEY  that insurance woman is a big pain to you. I hope one day she has to do business with someone worse than she is. Maybe if she was talking with a man she would have been nicer.

AMY  I look forward to cool fall temperatures on the first really warm day in spring. If I had the money and liked to travel I would winter in Australia where they are having winter. I love soup, too, as long as it is home made. Dislike can soups. I remember listening to Paul Harvey on the radio for years. He was great. I will read/listen to this when I finish reading here.

JANE  I am with you on certain pieces of ladies apparel. Why can't we just wear enough to be modest and comfortable.

LLOYD  you had so few years of life to be a child. We know you have worked hard all your life and still doing too much.

AMY great hearing Paul Harvey's voice again and his words are so true. What would we do with out the farmers? Hate to think about it.

Have a good day.

Good morning from Grand Rapids.  It is good to see that some people are awake and moving.  I just got up - it is 7:15 am - but I haven't done anything except heat water for my coffee.

I'll be back later; I just wanted to join the crowd.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  I slept really well last night and for the first time in ages I actually feel rested!  I changed my time for the Melatonin.  I didn't take it before I went to bed as it suggests on the bottle.  I went to bed tired and slept the usual 2 to 2 and a half hours and then had to get up and go.  Before I went back to bed, I took the Melatonin.  I slept soundly the rest of the night until the doggies stirred in the morning.  I think this will be my method from now on.

We're in for nights in the mid to low 60s and days no higher than mid 80s...my kind of weather.  I can take the 80s if it cools off later and earlier.

I haven't decided what to do today.  Maybe a little laundry, maybe bake something, maybe nothing.  I think I'll just take this day as it comes.  The last few have been so frustrating that I need to relax.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  Make it your own in every way!

I'm up & still bleary eyed, fed 2 cats but it is raining gently and even that scares Tom, so he is hiding out somewhere. My eyes are itching like it is fall (late fall). Tom came home wet, had breakfast & they are sleeping on the couch to keep an eye on me.

Amy, I also love the sound of Paul Harvey's voice & always thought he was SO smart. I had uncles (& aunts) that were farmers and from my first memories, thought they were such hard workers, up before dawn and went to bed at dark but knew they spent many nights up all night with a sick animal. I don't remember any ever being gone from their farms "because animals had to be fed and taken care of".

Jane, since Walmart is one store that is a regular stop for me, I think of you often as I watch the employees having to rush to cover because when someone retires they don't get replaced. I have no doubt your customers look for you, for help and just a friendly face. I know I come out of a store with a smile when I get a chance to chat with someone special. I'm going to mention your Melatonin to a couple friends that are having trouble waking up in the wee hours.

Gloria, I know if she had been dealing with Cas he would not have put up with her stalling. He had that stern look like Robert Ryan (remember him?) & at 6'2", nobody messed with him, not that she would have known what he looked like, but he did not have that "good ole boy" voice, either.  ;)  After 8:00 & I've been on this computer (back & forth) since 6:00. "Legs, get me moving........"  Who was it that used to say that on the radio?

Lloyd, my father didn't die when I was six but we had to move from Jefferson City (where all our relatives lived), to Sedalia, where "the shops" were. The war started & my Dad was transferred to the Signal department of MoPac. We had chickens for eggs & to eat, had a garden at the house & another on some land outside of town. With gas rationed Mom & Dad would drive out to take care of the big garden as often as possible & my youngest brother would stay home to take care of my sister & me. Dad could fix anything so everyone that knew him, including all the neighbors, came to him or called him to come to their house to repair what was broken, he never took a dime for helping. My brothers all had jobs, delivering papers & groceries, mowing lawns, my sister & I were expected to do what ever we could. I spent a lot of time feeding chickens to stay out of the house.

Think I'll join you with a cup of coffee, Mary Ann.... but I have to eat before I take a sip. Oatmeal sounds good this morning with a couple slices of toast. I'd love to go back to sleep but want to see if the insurance paperwork has run through the channels so I can clear off this table. I know it will be weeks before they start but have to find a place to park my elephant (RV) so the roofers can use the driveway.

Shirley, I always have a peanut butter cookie with my coffee and that helps me wake up.  I just finished showering and shampooing and I'm back at the computer until I get tired of that.  Tom went out for breakfast and said he'd bring back a cranberry muffin from McD's.  I may fix another cup of coffee (hazelnut) and go on the deck.

I'm amazed at the work you other women do but wait until you're in your 90s and you might not be so ambitious.

Tom is home so I think I'll wake the cat and go out on the deck.  It is 71 here now.

Good morning,  Another pretty morning, but they still are predicting the scattered storms that they have predicted for  every day. So far, the rain has escaped our area.

Nice to see Lloyd, Shirley, Gloria, Jane, Amy and Mary Ann this morning. I have been up a while, but I see the morning is almost over.

I started a new medicine that is a low maintenance drug to help with the UTI to try to prevent  the problem.  Sure hope it works. I do feel a little better.

I might be able to get a few chores done today that I have been putting off.

Lloyd,  no wonder you are still a work-a-holic.  You have been working your whole life.  So sad about your dad's  death.  I think it is time for you to  just slow-down and enjoy your life.  My dad was very much ike you.  He started early in life working with his dad paving roads with horse and wagon.  He worked at that for many  years.  Later he built stone quarries and he was the main person for making sure everything worked well. He loved  working on concrete.

Mary Ann,  you are so right about slowing down the older you get.  Nothing seems that important like it did when I was younger.

Jane, I hope you will enjoy your day off.  And, it is ok just to wind up doing nothing.  That is what I do  a lot of days.

I also enjoyed hearing the story about the Farmer. I always liked the stories that Paul Harvey would tell. Always tried to listen to his show.

Shirley, sorry you are having so much trouble with them insurance company.  Those kind of things can be so frustrating.

Gloria,  I know you are one who does not like the hot weather, but I am just so sad when August arrives. I feel like that is the  beginning of the end of summer. And, it feels like it has hardly gotten started. I hate to think about almost time for school to start back. I was one Mother who hated to think about school starting.  The winter just goes on and on and on.  And, summer is so far away.  I know there are a lot of mothers who just can't wait for school to start back up. In always enjoyed having my kids home to do fun things with.

I need to get myself pulled together and see if I can get at least one thing accomplished today. I have been so lazy and tired for so many days now.

Have a pleasant day.

Joy

I went in to get dressed and make the bed and decided it was time to change the bed.  So far, the sheets and one set of pillowcases are back where they belong and the comforter and the other set of pillowcases are in the dryer.  Two pillows are in the washer and need to get into the dryer next.  Then I have a load of regular clothes sorted and waiting their turn by the washer.

Last load in the washer.  Gotta go make the bed!

Doesn't take long for a day to disappear . Hit the grocery store before it became too busy. Bought some sweet corn and my is it delicious. May go back tomorrow and get another doz to put in the freezer. Neighbour was cutting back limbs and I asked if he would take a dead one we had and ended up trimming our low branches on a few trees. We went over to his place when he was cutting more branches and helped load up. More hands make light work.

We had a lovely rain.thankfully after all the laundry came in off the line!! Thunder rumbled and that bothered Babe some but she is fine now.

Joy if you like yogurt, try eating a bit more of it..it helps with the UTI.

Think I shall head to the shower, just in case the storm comes back around or one is following..

Forgot to mention.
Lloyd, my Dad ate snails called periwinkles...there was no way I would eat that! He would get Mom to boil them up and have a bowl of vinegar with pepper in it and once the snail was picked out dip it  and down  the hatch..

Jane, I found a recipe for the pie so will try it .

I never had a good Nights sleep, so I am marking my spot for today. hope you all had much better than I did. this old age is not what it is creaked up to be.wish I could move the feelings back at least ten years or more. Back where people had respect for one other. when we had displain a little switch across the back sides would get attention. and when a neighbor lady would see you doing wrong would grab you up and swat your but. and if you got a spanking at school and you were wrong you got another at home, and moms was harder than teachers. nether left back and blue spots, just got your brain to working better. Have a great day.
I am going to my easy chair and take a snooze i hope before the sun and or rain comes,we are supposed to get some today.

I leave by 7:00, Jane, but an hour later than you. Fed cats & answered a couple e-mails already, but need to feed myself so I can take my aspirin. I don't take one every day but the only blood thinner my body can tolerate...but not on an empty stomach. My Fitbit band still has the little metal cylinder stuck where I cut that half of the band off so can't put on new band until I get that pulled out... & when I woke up during the night I had to sit up to see the clock. I don't do well with changes. :crazy2:

It is hotter here than any of the many weather stations I have on my Kindle... I am ready for WINTER! Wishing all a peaceful Sunday... Another killed just hours after the one in ElPaso.... crazy world.

Good morning everyone..

We lost our power for about 3 hours during the night from 3-6 am.. Now it is a lovey sunny day so far without the humidity.

A day of rest here..we do have to take the garbage to the dump later. This pup loves beans...not just the bean but the whole plant that he has been pulling out from the little side garden. Will fix that next year.

Better get a move on here also.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a bright sunny one and 72° now but humidity is not too high yet. Just heard we have a cold front coming and will cool us and drop humidity. That would be great if it happens. What is going on in this country, that shooting in Texas and just heard of one in Dayton, Ohio. If this keeps u p people will be afraid to go anywhere soon. Now here in RI people are being arrested for going onto "Private beaches" along the shore. It is posted no trespassing, private beach and some feel they have as much right there as those who own the property there. My FIL sold the home they had on the beach in Maine because people in town were starting to take over, even parking in his driveway. If he asked them to move they would say they pay taxes and can go where they want. Heck my FIL paid taxes there, too.

LLOYD  you are not a bad penny as far as I know, just a good one. You can have my share of snails.

JANE  well the days are already getting shorter, lost an hour of daylight so the sun will not be shining as long so maybe it will finally start getting to livable temperatures? 80° I can tolerate as long as humidity is low. Hopefully we had the worse heat in July this year.

SHIRLEY  there are still people out there that think women have no brains except those who give us a hard time.

JOY  if you remember JOAN had trouble with UTIs, too. Like you I liked  the times school was out  and my 3 were home. I hated it when they were back in school. I feel like I am lazy these days but there are so many things I can no longer do and my CNA keeps telling me not  to worry about it and I am not  lazy.

AMY  before my son picked me up on Wednesday we had a thunderstorm and thought I would not be going but it did not last long.

LLOYD  a smack on the backside or a slap on the hands never hurt the kids but today we could be arrested for child abuse. No wonder today's teens think they can do anything they want. Never were disciplined.

AMY  my son's last dog would go through the orchard to the crab apple trees and pluck a ripe one off and eat the whole thing. She loved them. If anyone was eating an apple she would sit there waiting for them to throw her the core and she loved it. She left the big apples alone, only went and picked the little crab apples.

Have a good day.

Gloria, my neighbor had a big crab apple tree in their front yard, bushels of apple's on it every year. They would lay on the ground & ferment because they just couldn't keep up with the mounds of them.... so robins would eat the fermented apples, get drunk & run into the windows... often killing the birds. That tree (now owned by someone else) blew over in that storm that had the hail in it. My mother tried to make jelly with the crab apples they had but just too many worms. Don't think she tried more than once. They hated to waste anything, but mulberries & crab apples were over the top for them. Hope you get the cooler air.

I've been to church, stopped at the Farmers Market on the way home and then a quick stop at WM.  I finally caught a manager and had a long chat.  Didn't solve my problem but we're working on it.

I'm now waiting for word from my sister as to whether they're coming up for my BIL's family reunion!  It kind of depends on how my BIL is feeling today.  I know he wants to come but it's a long trip if you don't feel well.  They don't have to drive.  My niece and her husband will drive but is's still hard.  He has lots of problems.

Haven't decided what I'm going to do today.  I'm open for suggestions.  If they are on the way, I'll go with them to the reunion.  I'm an honorary member of his family for the past 20 or so years.  If they don't come, I'll probably just goof off!

Jane: I hope you can get your problem solved with work.

Tomorrow, two grands come for a sleep-over. They love to visit and want to do any chore we ask - I can't think of anything this minute.

Evenings are beginning to cool at this time of the year and we are very happy about that fact.

One t.v. station here has called for a Be Kind day - to acknowledge and greet others and step up and help others who may need a helping hand.  Peace!

This morning was normal for Dot and me, but about 2 pm, Tom's granddaughters came and the fun began.  Tom wasn't here but his former wife was here with the girls.  They're 2 1/2 years old (twins - red heads) and no quiet moments.  Their parents came about 2:30 with lunch for everyone.  I really didn't need anything to eat but I did manage half a sandwich.  They also bought a rhubarb-strawberry pie and who could resist that!  Everyone left about 4 pm and I'm ready for a nap.  Seeing the girls was the highlight of my day.

Friends of my folks had a fruit farm and my mother would make crabapple jelly from the crabapples and it was good.  Our area used to be a fruit farm too and there was a cherry tree in our yard and my mother made cherry pies - yum1

Good morning everyone, wow it is 58°. Wonderful. The cold front came through as predicted. Some places had quite a storm with it, strong winds and rain. One town just over the border in Mass. lost power and trees down, real mess. Of course tomorrow the humidity returns with rain for the next 3 days-so says the weather guessers.

SHIRLEY  most orchards have crab apple trees. I asked my son why and he said it helps with pollination. No one ever picked them. Like the rest of his trees they were sprayed so no worms.

JANE  glad you got to the manager, hope things improve now. I don't have the problems your SIL has but I know I would never be able to ride in a car for more than 30 minutes without having problems. Luckily none of my appointments are far and every time I go out it takes a couple of days to feel rested up.

CAROL  I would love to see a Manager be kind day here. We have a couple of people here who are very kind to anyone who needs a bit of help.

LLOYD  hope you finally got some good sleep.

Have a good day every one.

Work around the house today is about it for here.

Lloyd, I too hope you got some shut eye..

Mary Ann, we also had a strawberry rhubarb pie and yes they are delicious!!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was a lovely cool night here, too.  I slept better last night than I have in a long time!  It's still only 65 this morning and not supposed to go above 84.  Unfortunately, the humidity is expected to be in the 90s and that's bad!

GLORIA it's not my SIL with the health problems, it's my BIL!  And he did very well yesterday.  His only surviving brother also has health problems but they enjoyed a nice visit and that's what's important.

Amy, I can't think of a better way to spend time than be able to "show" someone the joys of the day. Thanks!

Don't know where I've been in my tales but #1 son came over to bail old mom out. Before he got here I went out with several paper towels to take the lid off the pool pump, clean off the "O" ring in the lid & goopy it us with Vaseline, put it back on, turned on the pump & it got pressure. One to-do down. Son arrived & had me run the 2nd zone first (sprinkler system), it came up okay, with pressure gauge going over the top, so he had me turn on zone 1 (the troublemaker). It coughed & out came some sand & the pressure gauge quit bopping back & forth. Next job to make sure I could open the new valve to put more water in the pool, dry air & wind makes it evaporate... I could & let it fill. THEN... into the house to get that darn pin out of the Fitbit... he did & we got the new band on, so I'm good to go.

Next step is handling the roof problem. Roofer suggest we wait another day for their info to get to us.  The question is, "exactly what is the 1% deductible a per cent of??? is it the claim, is it the house policy or what they value the house, what?  The claims lady sent me a number to call to answer that question.... did not sound like a local voice & suggested I call my claims agent... told her that's who gave me THIS number!  Don't know if it is the hundreds or thousands that I pay. But with a policy waiting on the table to pay of over $3,000 this month, I need to balance a checkbook!  :o

I'm going to eat & sleep... after one more job.  Y'all behave till I get back.  Shirley

Guess what happened to me today???? Lloyd, I'm going to give you a run for your money with disasters.  Being grateful for my son's help this morning & fact that his wife has to return to her teaching job this week.... I called & told them I'd bring over hamburgers, drinks, fries & the dish of ice cream everyone loves... for lunch. Got it, pulled around the back of that building to come out the grocery store driveway onto a busy street, sitting there first car in the line by the street when all of a sudden I heard an explosion. Car didn't rock so I didn't think I got hit... but when I looked around I couldn't see out the passenger window. As I watched I saw a hole about the size of a golf ball opening up & the glass so shattered it looked like water dripping off... I started honking the horn so everyone would stop whatever they were doing & pay attention for fear something awful going on. I stepped out of the car & the lady behind me stepped out, we looked at the window & the person using a weed whacker with ear muffs on didn't look up, just kept on going to the end of the grass. I told the lady I would deliver my ice cream (just a block away) & return to the store to show them what happened. As I drove the glass kept dripping off, I knew I couldn't keep the AC on with the temps so high so turned it up since Buick doesn't seem to have a way to just turn OFF. Now I have no window so I rolled down the other, my purse sitting on the seat is full of glass & I am supposed to meet a friend across town at an art guild meeting tomorrow for the first time in about 30 years! I called the 2 Buick dealers, they don't replace glass, called Safelite (in New Mexico) & bless her heart, some lady managed to get me in at 10:00 am in the morning & still meet my friend because the meeting is just south of the window place. It could have been worse, if whatever shattered the window had hit a human they would have been killed. I've never seen anything like it & hope never again. I called the grocery store just now & talked to one of the managers, they have already contacted the Landscaping service & after I write Safelite a check I will take the bill to the store & let them collect for me. Only way I can have a car to drive as fast. At the end of the day, Pollyanna still says, "it could have been worse".... but for sure, this little old lady is in a state of shock.  The insurance lady called while ago to say the roof on the house was approved & sending me a copy as well as the roofer so now to get the shingles delivered & put down. Goodness, I'm almost afraid to turn around again today. After my son got the band off my Fitbit & we got the new one on, after he left I realized the time was not correct. Can't change them like a normal watch & it's never been a second off from all these electronic clocks on everything. Son explained to "sync it to your phone or the computer, Mom"... & that worked.  I explained to my friend that I now realize that when this son was born I passed on all my brains to him & that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it! :crazy2:
Do hope everyone else has had a peaceful day & Mother Nature sleeps tonight, I need CALM & so does Lloyd!

Good morning everyone, another good night for sleeping, another 62° to start  the day. Yesterday went up to mid 80's but  low humidity. Getting into the sun though I could feel it  burning hot. My son brought me more fresh blueberries from the farm so yesterday my CNA helped me and we made a blueberry pie. Oh it tastes so good. No I did not eat the whole thing but did have a small slice of it.

AMY  I remember making apple jelly, grape jam from the plentiful wild grapes and also blackberry jam that a neighbor's son went to a field in back of a dairy farm to pick some for his Mom and she sent him to pick some for me. She is the one who taught me about canning. Best neighbors I could ever wish for. The house was a duplex and we lived in it.

JANE  I knew it was your BIL and not your  SIL who is the ailing. Getting so I think one thing but saying another.

PHYLLIS  I live a dull life and if I did not reply to the others who post here I would have nothing to say.

AMY  THAT IS SO BEAUTIFUL. Thank you for sharing.

SHIRLEY  you make me glad I no longer own a house. We always behave but YOU are the one who doesn't, YOU always do too much. About time you stop so much work and enjoy life.

LLOYD  I never sleep during the day and some nights I still have trouble getting to sleep.

SHIRLEY  no matter how safe a driver is an accident can still happen. Glad you got the window replaced so fast.

LLOYD  hope Nancy feels well enough to take off on your trip tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone.

Good beautiful morning everyone..

I just love these cooler temperatures. Taking Kyle in town to get his blood work done then home to do what I didn't get done yesterday....I hope!!

Phyliss, I passed your custard sight onto friends they in tern passed it on to their daughter and they all loved it...especially the Dad as it is a favorite of his.

Jane, thank you for turning the lights out. Hope you have a wonderful day today..

Gloria, I also had a neighbour like that when I farmed. I hitched up the wagon and we piled on our bushel baskets and went picking wild grapes , that had to be the best grape jelly I have tasted. She also made grape juice with it.She was one heck of a cook and could cook anything g to perfection.

Lloyd, sending you an email..

Tea/coffee and muffins are in the hidey hole this morning.

Enjoy your  day..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's still being cooler nights and days into the low to mid 80s.  I can manage that...especially if I don't have to go anywhere.

GLORIA, sometimes I don't really have anything to say but I say it anyway and then I think to myself, "boy they must really think I lead a boring life!"  And when I say something I think might be interesting and no one comments, I KNOW I lead a boring life!  Just say what you feel like saying.  I, for one, just want to know you are all still there!

LLOYD, if you are travelling east on Route 80, the restaurant where we met for lunch is only a couple miles off that and there's room to park your vehicle or if you'd rather, you can park it in the WM lot and I'll pick you up there and take you to Country Cupboard.  I think you have my email address and my phone number.  I could meet you almost any day for an early supper. I can't meet you Monday, Wednesday or Friday for lunch  Any other day will work.  I'd love to see you and Nancy again!  Also, people do park all night in WalMart supercenter lots.  I often see campers there.

Now I better get on the stick.  I have to clean the fridge before I can go to the dumpster and I'd really like to get that done before the day gets too hot.  I just took the doggies for their "mini-walk" and it's really nice out there right now.

Enjoy your day in every way!

Shirley, that window breaking was terrible.  So glad it didn't hit you.  I hope when you talk to the landscaping company they don't give you any trouble.  Good luck!  You deserve things going more smoothly now.

I'm having some bad luck of my own right now.  My email program has crashed and I haven't a clue as to what to do about it.  I'm only receiving the same email from 3 days ago over and over.  I'm not getting any new messages at all.  If I delete the account I will lose all of the archived folders that I want to keep. It's maddening and I don't know what important (if any) messages I am not receiving.  I guess that I will be working on that for most of the day.

Gloria, you're days and my days sound pretty much the same.  With the heat and high humidity of late I'm pretty much staying inside and that makes the day even more dull and boring.

Amy, I'm glad that so many are enjoying the Instant Pot Custard recipe.  I made sauce from some plums yesterday. Quick, easy, and tasty.

Lloyd, hope that Nancy will feel better and you will be able to get on the road soon.

Take care, All.

Reading your notes - I wish I could help.  I could eat Rhubarb pie if that was any help.

Such a shock for having a rock hit the glass window.  Those things are dangerous.  We had a glass door broken in the same way and the landscape guy just walked away.  Couldn't speak English and refused to acknowledge my Spanish - with a shrug of his shoulder, he just got in the truck and drove away.

Two grandchildren left early this morning - one is playing hockey right now.  He is slim and can eat anything and never gains weight.  He works at a small airport otherwise.  His sister is just graduated and looking for a job and now is widening her search.

Don had his hand surgery and will return tomorrow - his hand is very dark and puffy and that is what they said to expect.

Shirley:  your picture "Happy Spring"  is lovely.

I'll be working and then the guy is supposed to come and power wash my fence and my house.  I wonder if they do that in the rain?  This is the first time I've ever had it done and it's supposed to rain this afternoon.  I guess I'll find out.

what's up in YOUR neck of the woods?

Good morning everyone, just  listened to the forecast. Does not look good. Starting around noon today until late tomorrow afternoon there is a chance of violent thunder storms, mostly inland this time, also small chance of a tornado. If they hit here I will not be at the computer and the TV will be off, too. Better make sure I have my cellphone charged. Crazy forecast and this time I hope they are wrong like most times.
It  was another cool night for sleeping, no AC all day yesterday and was so quiet without it. The men have been painting the front of this building for 2 weeks now. I have a view of them from my windows. Saw them painting the window frames and now they are replacing them but not with wood but with plastic. Wonder if they will paint them again. Waste of time and money. Our witch is always "trying" to save the owners of the building money. Wonder if she gets a big bonus at the end of the year. One lady here cut her foot, she is almost blind and did not see the blood. Well she walked around and left blood every where she walked, even in the elevator. That brought a hazard team in to take all that carpeting out and now they have to put more in. Will be fun when they work in the elevator, wonder if we will be able to use it when they are working in it. She is now in the hospital, the rescue truck was here and took her to the hospital on last Friday. They are running different tests on her, for what I don't know. Her apartment is on the second floor and her husband is on the third floor. He also has hospice care. he is very ill. That is all that is going on around here.

AMY  like you I have enjoyed the last couple of days.  I loved the grape jam, closest in taste to me is the Welch's, even smells like grapes.

JANE  most times I don't do anything but most days say it anyway. I know I live a boring life but I am content. I love to read so do a lot of that.

PHYLLIS  I am so lucky to have my grandson who works in computers. He always helps me out when I have problems. Maybe not right away but he will get to it when he has time.

CAROL  like you I could eat rhubarb pie-minus the strawberries-every day.

JENNY  wish there was a way we could have met with you being so close. Makes me wish I was still driving.

JANE  rain has not started here yet, around noon is when the guessers say it will start. This is the first time I heard them predict a 24 hour period of possible thunder storms.

Have a good day. Almost forgot, I put a blueberry pie in the hidey hole is anyone wants some.

Good foggy morning everyone..

We did have some rain which was so nice plus they are calling for more today. Lawn is burnt and not growing but the weeds are!

Jane ,not a lot going on up here other than little jobs that need doing. May get more quilting done, I have 5 rows sewn together with another 3 to go. Not sure if the length will be good enough but do have more blocks to sew together to make 2 more rows.

Love chocolate chip cookies, thank you!

Gloria, you popped in......good morning to you and love blueberry pie, thank you. Hope the lady will be ok....she has more than enough on her plate with her hubby in hospice care.

Jenny, glad your back home safe and sound.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day everyone.

The sun is coming up over the neighboring ridge and it is supposed to be another hot and humid day.

I tinkered with my email program a little bit yesterday but was afraid I would make it worse so mostly left it alone.  When I checked it later it had miraculously fixed itself.  That leads me to believe that it was their problem and not mine. So all is well this morning.

In spite of the humidity I think I will try to get out to the farm stand today.  I'm thinking I would like some good tomatoes for tomato and mayonnaise sandwich and some homemade tomato soup.  Also, I would just like to get out of the house and see if the rest of the world still exists.

Take care, All.

It is either me or the computer - I cannot find S & F since the 2nd. of August.  And, I had to write in the Shout Box on one of the sites.  Pardon the shout.

Two grands came for an overnight - they do this several times a year and fix anything - we try not to overload them.  Today is another drive to the VA for Don had hand surgery two days ago.  Not a pleasant drive on the freeway anymore so we have been checking out some smaller roads - slower but much safer.

Amy:  Mom had a Treadle Singer - it was sold by a family member.  Mom taught me to sew on it. I do have a Featherweight though and have offers but just do not want to part with it.  Still sews a perfect stitch.

Gloria:  Lobster would be wonderful.

Roley:  We found St. Mildred's in Canterbury - a lovely church and friendly congregation.  Don's mothers name was Mildred - he said he didn't know she was a Saint but that is was a lovely time meeting the people.

I'm really tired and ready for bed but I'm not going to turn out the lights.  SHIRLEY will have to do that when she comes by or maybe JENNY will take care of it.

My fence is all white again...no black smudges all over it.  I wonder how long it will last? And the house is so clean on the outside that it even smalls good.  I'm off to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I turned them out, Jane, but got back up because it is thundering. Cats were all out but Tom & Callie have already found their safe place to hide when it storms. They always come in dry. Tiger came in & is having a snack before we go back to bed. I'll have a drink of water & call it a night.

Carol, hope Don's hand is doing okay. I do understand about "dodging traffic". The parking lot at the VA here was so crowded I would have to drop Cas off at the door & go find a place to park & walk a long way back. Seemed to me they needed a shuttle bus to run around the parking lot to help. As short winded as I am these days, I wouldn't have been able to walk in & in this heat would not have been able to wait in the car. He was terrified I would die first and knew he could not live alone. We manage the best we can, don't we?

Lloyd, hope you & Nancy have a nice trip and good weather. Stay safe!

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

Good morning everyone, we sure had rain lat e yesterday and during the night. 68° now at 5 am. I was in bed last night a little after 8, too sleepy to stay up longer. Going to be a long day. Sure wish my couch had some of Jane's ZZZZzzzz's in it. If I could fall asleep in the afternoon after CNA leaves, even for 30 minutes I could stay up later. Oh well.

AMY  the blueberry pie I made-with the help of CNA was from a recipe I got from a Yankee magazine about 50 years ago. Cook some blueberries with a little water and cornstarch till thick, cool a little and add raw berries, chill and serve with whipped cream. Can only make it when fresh blueberries are in season. Of course I made 2 shells so today will make a lemon meringue if I get ambitious. That lady is home now and have not seen her yet.

PHYLLIS  do you shut your computer off at night or just put it to sleep? A lot of times when having problems shutting it off and restarting solves some problems. I would love some native tomatoes and a tomato and lettuce sandwich, like that crunch in there. Local tomatoes from the farm should be ready this week and my son will bring me some on Saturday. In a hurry to sink my teeth into one and enjoy it.

LLOYD  the forecast yesterday was for severe thunder storms in this area, I heard 2 boomers and saw no lightening but we sure had rain.

CAROL  I had an old White treadle machine that was my mothers but me now ex husband gave it away. I liked it better than the electric one I bought. Seemed like I had more control the treadle one. I enjoy a lobster at home and just boiled. That way one can get all the meat out of the legs and really take it apart to get every bit out of the shell.

JANE  nothing like a clean home, inside and out.

SHIRLEY  you shut the lights off and I just turned them on. Had to see where I was going.   ;D

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone..

No rain or storm last night and they are calling for 60 % again today. I just hope it is a cloudy day as we are off to pick up the treadle sewing machine . I know where we are going to stop for lunch too!! They serve the best fish 'n chips..plus the chocolate factory is in the area.

Gloria, I love homemade pies. I cheated and bought a pie and wish I hadn't but live and learn. I will make up some pastry and freeze pie shells and when we need a pie just whip it up.Hope you find some zzz's today for a nap.

Jane, happy to read you are happy with the washing of your home. Pressure washers are a dandy outfit to use.

Carol,I also have a featherweight and this treadle will round out my machines. My go to is my Janome 6600 and it has me spoiled with the thread cutter and easy threading.

Shirley, thank fully we have a handicap sticker and even then it is difficult to find a place to park. Now is not as bad when the RA and chemo slowed Kyle down and we won't use it if he is having a good day on the walking. You should apply for one with your heart condition. We don't have to pay for one here.Dr wrote a script and we sent it in.
I had better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone..

G'Morning all. I thought this approaching anniversary might be of interest this time, it is the story of Billy Fiske, A American Citizen who here at least, is believed to be the first American Citizen to be listed as K.I.A. in WW.2, he lies in this old Churchyard here in West Sussex, close to where he fell during the Battle of Britain in 1940 @ 'RAF.Tangmere'West Sussex. i believe there are around nine other Americans who died in the battle who also had to sign on as Canadians to enlist in the R.A.F, but Billy was the first to be killed.
If anyone is interested, i can scan a short history of how he came to enlist into the R.A.F and his subsequent death, his name is also recorded in St Paul's Cathedral London.
Sorry to say there is no sound on this first clip but,i can remember this whole area was under attack at the same time as his Funeral, i think that perhaps that is why at the end of his service the camera pans up  into the sky, it would have been full of vapour trails and the sound of dog fighting, etc.

Billy FISKE'S grave today.
Both his parents and his wife are now interred along side with him in the one grave.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was a lovely cool night just made for sleeping.  I think we had a nice gentle rain  during the night, too.  Everything was wet when I took the doggies out around 6.

Roley, I enjoyed the film of Billy Fiske's funeral.  I remember hearing about him and other Americans who found it necessary to get into the war early and did it through joining with British forces.  There have even been a couple of movies about this.  Thanks for the "official" view!

I don't know what this day will bring.  I have no plan but lots of things begging for attention.  I'll have to see what's begging the loudest.  I do have to make a quick trip to the grocery store for a couple of things I missed on my last trip.  I've made a vow to use up what I have in the fridge and freezer before buying anything else.  However, that doesn't include "fresh from the farm" veggies.  I always need them!

I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own I every way!

It's waining in Wichita.... and feels SO good!  Got e-mail this morning that "my case" has been handed over to someone else. Will see how this works out, don't feel like this can go on much longer or they might have to plant me. Guess some people never outgrow being a bully. Hopefully the roof won't leak until the new one gets put on. not concerned about the "roof-roof" but all those vents & things that may have been damaged. Water can follow a pipe all across the house in the attic & show up on a ceiling anywhere.  :o

All 3 cats had their breakfast & glad to be inside sleeping. Miss Callie has been subdued ever since we got back from CO. She acts almost afraid of me again, hesitates about coming inside. She is hiding/sleeping under the bench in front of the fireplace, hidden behind a stack of canvas panels I ordered last week. Bless her heart, I know she knows she is making me feel bad. She is one smart cookie & knows how to control us all.

Chilling out today, may get a nap in & certainly need to clean house. That darn floor in the kitchen feels sticky this morning... guess humidity is bringing the Coke out of the wood, it'll have to be scrubbed again. Better go get my work clothes on, talking isn't going to get the jobs done.

Got to thinking about how crazy the world has become last night.... maybe if everyone put a smile on their face & said "Hi" to everyone they meet, people wouldn't feel so alone and angry all the time. If we all work on our little corner of the world maybe it will catch on, you think? I can't understand why people will kill unless they are so broken & sad inside they don't know how to be loved. Anyway, you can see where my mind was instead of sleeping sound! Have a great day!

A good Thursday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

SHIRLEY, I am sorry you had to turn off the lights.....I planned to and said I did in my post that is not here....I was really sleepy and probably forgot to hit post....I can not guarantee anything as I have remained on Eastern time and find myself ready for bed at 7 PM MDT!  Oh my, your on going problems with your roof!  I sure hope you do not have any leaks also!  I read the story about f your broken window....oh my, that is terrible.  Sure glad you were not in the car at the time.

Anyway, we made it home safe and sound....had to get an Uber to bring us home.  My Kitty, Smokey was beside himself he was SO HAPPY to see us.  He never meows.....but has started just when we get home from being away and he just keeps crying until he is horse! Not to mention he bugged me all night long as he wanted to make sure I knew he still loves me🥰🥰

We have been on the run trying to get caught up with things.  Kurt and the boys were going to fly to Denver on Friday, so we had to take his vehicle in, the one that he left parked here in our driveway as he was returning so soon, to the dealership for a air bag recall.  Decided to have the oil changed at the same time...... well to make a long story short, they just called to tell us the car was ready, BUT OF COURSE they did not get the airbags changed out as they did not have the parts!  Now he made this appointment a good month ago!  Now Kurt is not going to come as both of the boys are sick.  Things change drastically in our lives it always seems.

The kiddos started back to school here yesterday, so we are on the hook to pick Matt up every day from football practice and take him home.  Michele still has another month of chemo, then she will have to do some radiation, so not sure how long this will be our weekly job.  Matt's school is about half way between his home and our home.  He is a bus student.  Of course Kate has to be taken to dance and picked up as well, at the same time, so mama, dad and friends are taking care of that.  Oh this busy life we lead!

I know I commented on several other things in my post last night, but I do not remember now.  Will come back later if I figure out what they were.

GLORIA, I, too, wish we could have met up.  If we had rented a car we could have, or I know Kurt would have driven us down, but both grandsons had day camp the second week we were there and it kept us from being able to leave the are on the week days.  One day, I hope we can still meet up as I would love to meet you in person❣️

CAROL, happy yo read about your grands being with you.  I do hope Don's hand is healing well..  we had breakfast on the way back from taking the car to the dealership.  Went to a cute place called Three Little Griddles on Dry Creek, East of 25.  I had Ebelsckivers.... Danish pancakes with lemon curd, and they were delicious.

Take care....

Jenny

Jenny, you are one of the busiest people I know with your family.  I think I would if I could, but with no car, no can do.

Kendrick often comes in to check on me and I usually say he is checking to see that I am still here.  I know he loves me because he likes to be in the same room I am in.  He is not a cuddly cat, so he doesn't jump up to be on my lap, but he's in the vicinity.

Mary Ann, that's the way Tom is, in whatever room I am in & if I happen to lay down, he will be behind my legs in no time. He acts like it embarrasses him when I scoop down & pick him up & squeeze (almost too heavy), but as soon as I put him down he is rubbing my legs & purring very loud. I bought him a new hair brush this past week, he likes the bristle ones best. He will roll over & over & try to brush himself if I quit. If I put the brush on the floor he will lay down & rub his chin on it for more.

Jenn, is Michele doing better?  I hope the chemo is really helping and there is a happy end. My brother-in-law is now 91 and his "torture" (chemo) was 30 years ago, so prayers she is one of the lucky ones. They are lucky to all have you & Bob to fill in the gaps.

Question for you, since my cats are feral I have to leave Callie outside when I travel, did you have someone checking on Smokey while you were gone?  Andy leaves his cats home & they are okay, but his son goes by to check on them every so often. They never go outside. That would be so nice, but Callie would tear the house apart in her need to get out.

Oh, I was in the car when that window exploded, still can't believe I didn't grab the phone & take video of the glass pulverizing the stages it did. Can't praise Safelite enough for their repair job. Those guys are good & did their job thoroughly, you'd have been proud of the quality of their work, took pride in their jobs. Funny how it is a surprise & feeling of "good old days" when someone does a job well.

It was cloudy most of the day, rainy this morning & we needed it so badly, the cool air was so welcome. It is starting to get sticky now, sun is out & not much breeze. Bet the mosquitoes will be swarming out tonight. I need to go put the dumpster out by the street, thought I'd get around to cutting off some dead foliage but didn't.

Hope all's well with every friend today, I know it's only August but am wishing the summer months GONE!  Jenn & Carol, are they predicting a pretty fall in CO?  I would love to make another trip mid to late Sept, have not checked to see when the campgrounds close.

I have a trip to MO planned in Oct, going to take a stack of old school books back to the Historical Society museum where my parents went to school.  The house where the museum is located was built by my mother's uncle, same builder that made this walnut hutch I have, for HIS mother. (They don't get that!)  Some of the books have my gr-mother's name in, she was born in 1871, 4 or 5 McGuffies & even a couple of poetry books given to my father as "rewards for scholarship" written inside. He was born in 1898 & when visiting his mother at a nursing home one time, he discovered the teacher that gave him the books was living there & had me come meet her. I realize the books do have a dollar value but am sure Dad would be proud to have them for everyone to see when they visit the museum. I don't think any of the young people today would pack them from place to place as they move.

MARY ANN, my kitty has never been that much of a cat that need holding and on your lap, but he sure is now.  He follows me around like a dog....if I leave the room, in no time here he comes to check on me!  And now since we have been home he is jumping on m lap as soon as I sit down....  I think he missed is while we were gone!

SHIRLEY, I am so sorry I forgot you were in the car when the thing exploded......my brain is non functioning!  We leave Smokey at home.  We put out two additional litter boxes and leave a couple more dishes of dry cat food and water around.  Son Brian comes b6 every couple of days to check on him and clean his litter boxes out.....and gives him some of his special wet food that he gets every morning when we are here and he does just fine.  Funny though, when we came in the house I called and called him.....he did not come and then all of a sudden I heard him crying out like crazy and here he came....I do not know what kept him from coming for so long.....he cried, (meowed)  so much he finally became very hoarse.......for the first year or two we had him I never heard him ever meow.....and now he only does it when we get home from being away.  He is a totally indoor cat.  Right now I can hardly type as he insists on being on my lap and right in front of my iPad screen.  I do not know if they are expecting a early fall or not here.....I will try to be more aware of the predictions and will let you know.   Glad that Safelite did such a good job....that is a rarity for someone to care about their work in these days.  Michele is holding her own.......st8ll so run down from the chemo.....we just hope and pray she will be OK.

BEVERLY , HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your daughter.....God bless her as she starts down the road to hopefully beating cancers butt!

I am late....gotta go!

Well, one thing led to another today and I got a lot of odds and ends done but nothing major.  I can actually see some clean places that have been accumulating "stuff".  I'm tired so I know I was busy.

If I don't comment on everything everyone says, please forgive me.  I love reading what you've all been doing and I hang on your every word.  I would miss it if you didn't post.

The doggies and I have been taking walks.  They seem to enjoy it and I guess it's good for me, too.  I try to do it early before it gets hot or just before it starts to get dark so it's cooler.  Sometimes they're not ready to go in when we get back so we just hang out in the yard.  All I have to do is pick up the leashes and both tails wag so hard I'm afraid they'll go flying off!

I'll take care of the lights tonight and I'll wash up the last of the coke glasses and coffee cups.  I'll also get the coffee pot ready for tomorrow and fill the tea kettle and set it on the stove.  Don't worry about anything.  Just sleep peacefully!

Good Morning to you, too, LLOYD.  Get that work done so you can get on the road!  If you're planning to go North, it has to be soon before the weather changes.

Good morning everyone..

Lovely day in the making out there.  We had a fantastic day yesterday..after picking up my sewing machine we his the chocolate factory then the bakery. We stopped for lunch where they serve the best fish and chips , I wish I had of thought to take a photo to show you but didn't..I ordered the. 2 piece fish and brought one home for today. We came through a dandy rain, I didn't know should I pull off the road or just keep on ,it was raining that hard. Just got in the door and my friend phoned to ask how the day was then abruptly had to go. Next thing I knew as I was talking over the fence with my neighbour they drove in ,a 30 min drive from their place.   She brought a bowl and plate made by her daughter for me and I had some fabric to share so went to get it and when I came back up stairs there was a birthday cake with candle going and they sang happy birthday to me. All in all with phones calls  too I had a great day.

Today I may tinker with getting the machine in cabinet and do some sewing.

Jane, have a great day at work, lots of smiling faces with a few hugs thrown in .

Lloyd, please be careful doing the repairs today.

Sato, good morning, please come back again..

I had better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, slept later this morning, feel awake now and not half asleep.  62° wonderfully cool.

AMY  good thing there is no chocolate factory here or I would be sending my CNA there every week. I have a handicap tag, no cost either. I had asked the doctor I fired about one and he told me I needed to know a politician and grease his palm. Then I asked the orthopedic doctor about it and he told me to go online and download the form and fill it out and he would sign it. That one I left was too lazy to tell me what to do. That or wanted me to pay him to get the form. Every 2 years they renew it automatically. That was when I first started having trouble walking and using just a cane. For me who always parked as far in a parking lot as I could and walked to the store. My younger son will not use it when he takes me to a store. He will drop me and the door and go park and them has me wait there for him to pick me up. It burns me when I see an able person park in a spot. We see that here in the parking lot, too. It is plainly marked. Visitors have an are to park in but some will park in a handicap place right in the first row. There are signs up that others will be towed. I have seen 2 cars get towed.

ROLEY/PETER  thank you for both videos, interesting.

JANE  I know we had rain 2 nights ago but when I fell asleep I heard nothing. My CNA was telling me yesterday there was some loud thunder and heavy rain and winds. She lives about 5 miles from me and  I heard nothing. When I fall asleep I almost am deaf to any noise. Who can pass farm fresh produce all summer? I know I cannot.

SHIRLEY  it is a sad world we live in these days when we don't feel safe going any place where crowds are. Not even safe at home anymore either.

JENNY  like the time JOAN was up here to visit Joe and Kate when Finlay was a baby. I was hoping then we could get together but did not work out either.

SATO  so nice to see you here this morning.

LLOYD  I get tired just reading about all you do.

JOY has not been in lately, hope she is OK.
Have a good day.

AMY  you sneaked in on me. Happy Belated Birthday.

Good morning to all with a special "Howdy" to you, Sato!  Happy it is the computer & not the body keeping you away, computers can be replaced!

Lloyd, for all the years we've shared stories online, you seemed to enjoy the chores most of all. Now you are ready to play and are just as serious about playing. Slow down and enjoy the travels this time.

Jane, like you, fur babies get taken care of first, wish I could put a leash on mine for a walk. Tried every kind of leash  with old LaurenKat without success so not going to waste time trying with these others.

What was the saying about "red sky in the morning"?  We had the reddest sky I ever saw in my whole life while ago. I took a photo with the camera, not phone, but did not show the red as bright as true color. It is still red but darker than a few minutes ago, strange sight.

Jenn, you talking about your cat getting hoarse reminds me of the time we left our German Shepherd at a new kennel, we never took her to visit Cas' mother & was like leaving one of the kids behind. They advertised "indoor & outdoor runs"... and when I called them they said they would bring them inside if it rained. When we got back a week later she went crazy when she saw us... I was shocked to see the metal on her collar had rust spots & she couldn't "talk". They must have left her outside the whole time & she barked herself hoarse. Picture it, 100 pound German Shepherd that squeeked when she barked. We never left her there again.

Amy, I didn't know yesterday was your birthday... Happy Birthday! belated but with a hug. Sounds like a good day!

Gloria, Cas had the tag that hangs over the mirror until he must have forgotten to put it up one day.... I'm guessing someone chewed him out for parking in handicap spot because he insisted (all of a sudden) that I go get the one on his license tag. He looked healthy but was so short winded just a few steps & he had to stop to breathe. That doctor of yours should have been reported for scamming. Sad when one goes through all the years of training "just for the money", and I'm convinced some do.

Better get a move on. Fantastic Friday to all.  :hello:

I guess I didn't realize that I haven't checked in for a couple days.  If I don't write something first thing in the morning,  I get busy and forget to come back.

So, I will just say that all is well with me.  I am feeling a lot  better and trying to get caught up with things that I had let go when I wasn't feeling good. Thank heavens, I do feel better.

It is supposed to be a beautiful week end over most of the whole country. Best weekend so far this summer, the weather man is telling us. I hope to get to the Farmers Market tomorrow morning. Looking for some good Maryland tomatoes and peaches.  And,  maybe some kind of baked goods.  So much to choose from.  There is one young man who bakes good bread.

I hope that everyone will be able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Belated Happy Birthday to AMY!!! :banana2:  :nanadance:  :nanadance2: I am making fabric tissue holders that fit in pockets or purses and hope to donate them to the church fall craft sale.  We had a funny incident today.  We hauled an older stationary bike to the curb for trash pickup.  It disappeared in a couple of minutes and whoever left a heavy iron thing in its place.  Wish we could have seen them.  I hope the trash picks this up.  Isn't that weird.  Our whole housing area is seniors and it is odd that any of them could handle this heavy equipment.  Always a mystery going on here.   8)

Jenny:  Glad you are back - wow, you are certainly busy when the children begin school. We are anxious to try your new find for breakfast.

Shirley:  I have not heard of an early fall - it may be so because weather is still so hot.

We had a cat when I was growing up and Boots was the only cat that was careful not to get in anyone's way.  Boots did try to sleep on my face once when I was sleeping and I was sure someone was trying to smother me.  Never after that time - Boots knew it was wrong right away.

Joy:  Thank goodness you do feel better.   :jump:  :jump:  That tired me out for the day.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, it really was a fun day.

Today we have had thunder, lightening and rain...rain we need the other no ,it really bothers Babe.
Tomorrow we are off again to meet up with son and daughter in love. I need to take my ink cartridges in to Costco for a refill so while that is happening we will meet the kids.

I noticed the zucchinis  growing and soo they will be put into relish....just need them a little bigger :)

Better go and see what needs to be done..

AMY, you'll never guess which recipe I printed off this morning?  AMY'S ZUCCHINI RELISH!   I practically stood on my head looking for the last jar that I KNEW was there somewhere and then I remembered, I gave it to my sister to try. Thank goodness, I discovered I need to make it while the zucchini is in season!  That's on my agenda for this weekend.   Great minds with but a single thought?

Dogs are bugging me.  Must be time to check out the grass out in the yard and see if all the mulch is still in place or should they dig it up and move it!  Here we go!

From June

I wanted to post in Seniors and Friends but am not able to follow the new way even tho I can read messages from friends that still post there.  My print is too small for me to forward same.

It is a milestone to turn 97 and CALLIE, I remember so well my travels with Whimsy.  GinnieB was the first person I ever corresponded with and what a wonderful night it was in OKLAHOMA  and remember so well meeting you,GinnieB and HELONA in Calgary and Montreal.

Thank goodness I made those trips when I was able and built up a great memory bank to look back on.

So many I wish to send messages to .

Vanilla Jackie  You are often in my thoughts andknow of your sadness but you are stronger than you think, and may each new day help you on your way.

MARY ANN, yes I specially asked Whimsy to make a trip through Grand Haven and remember that visit well as Pat Scott came down there too with Geordieand we walked the pier.  She also was accompanied by a member from Traverse city who I had met
In Calgary but have forgotten her name.  I know she died not long after that.  How is Dot?  I appreciate reading of her in your messages at times.

MarsGal I remember you from Seniors Learn but think we both had different names then (I was waafer).

I have had a great day with messages from far and wide and beautiful flowers.

BUBBLE. I was so interested in your recent time away with your daughter and to know you have been able to travel. Am sure you are appreciated in S & F.

I have got used to the ways in Aged Care
But all my Air Force friends have pre deceased me and so many
Cyber friends are now gone.

Keep well and I will try to send this mornings photo.

Good morning everyone, oh I would love to sleep until at least 7 in the morning again, now waking at 3:30 am is just too early.  62° so mice am cool for sleeping. Yesterday felt like a perfect  day, blue sky puffy white clouds an good breeze, LOW humidity.I must have been outside about 4 hours yesterday. I was out on the porch in the morning for 2 hours and when my CNA left I was out there again. Wish the rest of the summer was like that.

SHIRLEY  I went to that dummy doctor for almost 10 years, mostly just wellness checks every 3 months. When my back started acting up he ignored it. I finally blew my top, something I never had done before. He sent me for an MRI and that is when he found out I had arthritis and he did nothing else. I think he was more interested in getting out on his yacht.

JOY  good seeing you back here. Nothing like local grown produce and fruit. Only time of the year tomatoes have taste. I know yesterday was a beautiful day here and hope we have more days like that.

CAROL  years ago one of my sisters had a cat. In the mornings he would wake us up one at a time, like she knew the times we got up for schoor work. She did it in the order we would get up with enough time in between for us to get out of the bathroom.

AMY  my daughter makes zucchini relish and it is so good.

BUBBLE  thank you for June's message. I still remember the big party they had for her when she turned 90. Her and Whimzy had a great time when she came here from Sidney to stay with Whimzy. They did a lot of traveling.

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone..

We had more rain overnight ,grass gave a huge sigh of relief and is now starting to turn green again.

I love this cooler weather at night, no need for the a/c on and at times there is a gentle breeze blowing.

We are off to the city, this morning after I had made plans we received a phone call that Kyle has a dental appointment on Mon. So back in again we go on Mon , if I had of known I might have said wait till Mon but then son may be on the road and we would miss out on the visit.

Soon we will start to hear the geese flying by ,taking the young on short flights getting ready for the longer ones. Jays will start to squawk and blackbirds bunch up ready to fly south too. I am so looking forward to the fall.

Jane, yes great minds it is! I need to pick up onions and peppers once the zucchinis get a bit bigger and then the fun begins.

Gloria, sitting out getting fresh air and vitamin D is relaxing. I love picking a tomato ,put it in a sandwich and eating it while it is still warm from the sun.

Joy, great that you are feeling a lot better. We may hit a few markets on our way home ,depending on which way we come back.

Bubble, thank you for the message from Junee.

Junee, happy to read all is well and hope you stop in again.

Better get a move on here....can't go to town in my nightgown.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're getting the cool nights and warm days also.  Last night was down in the low 50s during the night.  I actually had to close the window that blows directly on my bed!

So nice to hear from Junee! I've wondered about her and how she's doing and now we all know!

I'm hoping that Cathy texts to say she's going to the Amish Store this morning.  I'll be going with her if she does.  If she doesn't, I'll have to make a trip to the Farm Market that's on the way.  I need to get peppers and onions for my zucchini relish, too.  And I need some stuff from the Amish Store.

I hope you all have a lovely day.
Make it your own in every way!

Gloria, I also had a restless night. Mind still running when I went to bed so just got up & went through some boxes sitting on the floor waiting to go back into the RV. Been waiting for a day with no rain in the forecast so I can put the slide out on the motorhome to open drawers. The rest of the night was "fractured" sleep, Tiger decided to stay inside to keep me company & we kept waking each other up. It did not get cool enough to open the door for fresh air last night (whine-whine) & we are to get back to the 90s all week (last time I checked the weather guessers). Have you noticed how much shorter the days are already?  I have a habit of checking the clock for sunrise every morning because I won't take off driving until I can see the deer running far enough ahead.  When we left for CO in June it was light much earlier, a lot has to do with it being cloudy the last week or so, early morning. We haven't had a lot of rain but enough the grass is green again.

Amy, not sure where all the geese & ducks have been this summer, and hardly ever see the egrets since "they" destroyed the rookery putting in the by-pass.... and have not seen any of the birds doing their formation flights with the young. One year the sky was full all the time and I would laugh at one group that couldn't get it right. Could almost hear their laughter as one would break line in the V & then they would all flounder & break up. I regret never catching it on video, kind of hard to share the vision without.

Bubble, thanks for the ride over to Photos with your link. Great photo of Junee... and love the pics of your family. We do depend on you so much, thank you.

Junee, so glad to hear from you, it's been too long. I do remember you & Whimzy & that whole Missouri bunch "bouncing off each other" laughing. I haven't heard from Doris A for quite a while. She was still living on her own last time we talked, & sounded so good. Every time we talk she cracks up at my clutzy ways.

I do gotta get busy & eat breakfast so I have time to clean this house a little. My daughter flew in to bring her grands back from a week at her house. She came over for a little while yesterday afternoon.... she accepted a consulting job but just a few hours a week, only until the company gets organized. She is loving being retired. She works as hard at being retired as she did all her life, learning in school & college, raising 4 kids along with working full time and now she has lost all the weight she wanted (her doctor said "no more") and is physically better than she has been in years. With Crohn's she is proud to be off the extreme meds she took when working & has her body under control. She did get her "drive" from her father.

I expect a bunch of you will be up by the time I post.... will chat later.  Right now it feels sticky in here, temp about what the thermostat is set on so AC not running, think the low overnight was 75... and bet the humidity was at least that high. Used to be the air was much dryer but now it's more like MIssouri when I grew up. This is Fair Week in MO, always hot & so often storms that messed with the fair. Memories..........

Jane, I'd love to go shopping with you. I may drive over to our Farmer's Market today, only lasts until noon. I haven't been but once this year & nothing was "local" at that time. I would love a tomato sandwich with real "grown in the sun" tomatoe.

So happy to see a message and picture from Junee.  She looks as "perky" as ever!

Helona, GinnieB and I met a lot of Senior Net friends as they travelled through OKC.  Being at the crossroads of 3 interstates meant we could meet almost anywhere that was convenient for them.

Pat and Judy came to where the group was having dinner when I was on a tour and we stopped in Guelph.  Later,in Hershey PA, Tonilee gathered a group for lunch with me.  Friends on the tour were amazed that these strangers and I "knew" each other.

Happy Memories of time spent with Senior Net friends at those Bashes and in person.

Had a surprise visit from Miss Ellen yesterday.  She's in town for a friend's wedding and I didn't think we'd be able to get together until next Monday or Tuesday.  However,  the bridesmaid's luncheon was at a tearoom about 2 blocks from my house so she came here between that and the rehearsal in downtown OKC. Hope I'll get to see her again before she goes back to NYC next week.

Air temperature is supposed to be around 105ºF this afternoon.  I don't plan to test how much it will feel like with the humidity!

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND!

It is a lazy Saturday for us as we are feeling under the weather with some kind of bug we must have picked up.  We were to drive to Laramie Wyoming today to attend the celebration of life of my cousin.  Sadly, I had to call her daughter this morning to tell her we just can not make it

AMY. I am so sorry I missed wishing you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY🎂🎂🎂🎂 I have you on my calendar now, so I hopefully will not do this again. I am glad you enjoyed YOUR DAY, and I hope you will enjoy a very happy and healthy year to come. Some of your Canadian Geese have decided they like it so much here in Colorado that they no longer leave.....they are everywhere.  Sadly the City of Denver was forced to make the decision to eradicate many of them in one of the BIG city parks.  Oh my, that was a very controversial subject.  They euthanized them, but did take them to a processing plant and had the meat processed for human consumption and prepared several meals for the homeless.  Thy not only were extremely messy, but they were attacking people and it was a big problem.  We have thousands of them here!

GLORIA, my son said that he will make sure that we plan a visit to see you the next time we are in Boston. He wants to take is to Charlestown RI. He said he has heard it is a wonderful beach area.  He and the boys are staying with friends on the cape and he said it is as crowded there as Ogunquit Beach in Maine where he took us last Saturday.  He wants us to come back in October......I wish we could, but it probably won't happen.  I am sorry you did not get t9 meet Joan either.  Kurt lives in Weston, right next door to Wellesley Mass where Joe used to live.  They are both lovely communities.

JUNEE, how nice to see a message from you and to see your picture.  Thank you, BUBBLE.  It is great to hear from you and you look as great as ever.

SATO, it is also SO GOOD to see your Post.  I think about you often and always hope you are doing well.

CALLIE, so happy to read that you had a visit from Ellen.  I hope you can get together for another visit before she has to return home.  I meant to comment about her flight Thermotherapien day when you said she was coming for a visit.  Enjoy!  I am smiling with a bit of tear in my eyes at reading your post about Pat, Judy and others that you got to meet up with.  I still can not believe our ToniLee is gone too.  We, too, got to visit Guelph....such wonderful memories😢😢

JANE, I do hope you get to go to the Amish Market today..... you know it always makes me happy to read you were there🥰🥰

SHIRLEY, always happy to read that your daughter is there for a visit.  It seems she is doing very well.  Enjoy the time with her and the family.

HI CAROL!  Please do honk when you go buyout back....I do appreciate knowing you watch for me💞

I do hope you all enjoy your day.

Jenny

Jane can you turn the lights out please.

Post by: JaneS on August 10, 2019, 10:03:09 PM
OK, I'll get the lights again but I'm not going to wash up the dishes.  I just finished a batch of Amy's Zucchini Relish and the dishes are all done and put away.  If I get here first in the morning I'll make sure there are enough clean cups for coffee or tea or whatever.

I have 10 pints of beautiful zucchini relish cooling and looking beautiful on the kitchen counter.  That should get me through the winter if I don't get too generous with it.  Cathy has already put her dibs on a jar.  That's OK!  She earned it!  We didn't go to the Amish store today but I did have a visit with her.  And her husband mowed my grass.  I'm all fixed up!

And now I'm off to bed.  The lights are off and the door is closed.  I didn't lock it just in case someone wants to hang around.

Sleep peacefully and may God bless us, every one!

Looks like I am up first. My dishes all got done & stacked up before bed, too, Jane. I made a huge pot of spaghetti sauce because I had a couple pounds of hamburger & a package of Johnsville Italian sausage needing to jump into a pot. For the first time I used the ground garlic in a jar and think that is what tastes different. Not as much flavor as fresh chopped. I kept adding seasonings but it doesn't have the same flavor. Live 'n Learn, huh?

Waiting for cats to show up at the door. I haven't announced my presence yet, wanted to check how much sleep (not enough, few minutes over 5 hours). They must spend most of the night just hanging out around the pool, any time I look, they are there.

Wishing all a beautiful day, whether it is resting or doing what ever pleases you. Maybe a little prayer for the living and the dead. A prayer that we find a way to recognize those tortured souls buried in hate before they harm someone. We are not seeing their pain, why? What drives anyone to strike out at total strangers?  Guns are not the cause, it has to be humans not understanding the needs of other humans. Guns are only instruments of destruction that need to be guarded like dynamite and poison. We, as the older generation need to figure what we can do to help. I don't mean take away guns from the sane population, doing that only the crooks & crazies will have them. Starting with children, watch for signs of distress, of frustration, teach them how to handle their own disappointments and not strike out at others. Kindness & love, and the absolute necessity of taking responsibility for their own actions (instead of covering up for them). We can come up with a plan to help, we need to think about it and offer advice for this struggling world. We've made it without striking out, how & why?   Now off my soapbox.... I do have faith that if we rattle our brains together we can understand the problem and the solution. THINK, think, think. Love ya all.  Shirley

I'm another one that didn't sleep well last night.  I still feel tired and I've opted out of going to church this morning.  I just don't feel like rushing and I didn't get around to watering the flowers last night so I have to do that this morning.  No rain for a couple of days and none in the prediction.

All the stuff that Christy and I planted seems to be doing well.  We only lost one Marigold and that one didn't look healthy from the beginning.  I have 11 tomatoes on my one tomato plant and two of them are already pretty big!  I plant one every year from the freebies that Bill brings to church and I've never managed to get even a blossom before.  I told Christy that it was her touch that did it and that the first tomato is hers!

I don't think my brain is functioning yet.  But I did want to ask SHIRLEY if you have a garlic press?  My niece gave me one about 15 years ago and it's a lot easier than chopping garlic.  And I use a lot more fresh garlic than I did before I had it.  It's small enough to fit in my silver ware drawer so it's handy to use.  I almost never use the already-chopped stuff any more.

AMY, I had two jars too many for the canner so I did what you said you do with them and they sealed nicely.  Thanks for the tip!

Now I'm going to go get dressed, take the doggies for a short walk and then water the posies.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone, I got a whole 6 hours sleep last night, miracle. Or was it the temperature and no AC or fan. 52° according to TV. About time it is more like my kind of temperature.

AMY  nothing tastes as good to me that picking a tomato off the vine and wiping it and just eating it like that, still warm from the sun. When my son came yesterday he stopped at the far, and got me some of their tomatoes, had one as soon as he put the bag on the counter, the first real native one this summer.

JANE  looks like zucchini relish is popular. The first year my daughter every thing except the sugar and vinegar came from her  garden. Of course she had to buy the jars. :)

SHIRLEY  I have not seen any parched grass here this year. That reminds me our witch was having a fit one day last week. one of the ladies here pulled her car in front and used the hose the maintenance man uses to water the flowers and starting to wash her  car. She saw her  and went storming outside and I heard her  yelling up here. "you go to the car wash to wash your car. You do not waste MY water to wash your car. "If you park under the trees you are bound to get droppings from the trees"    The lady is one we call Ms. Clean. Now she is telling everyone she sees about the chewing out she got. She has not been here 2 years yet and has complained about things from day one.

LLOYD  the older we get the less our  bodies can do what we want it to do. I get mad at myself because I can do so little anymore.

CALLIE  wonderful that Ellen went to see you. Always great to see family members.

JENNY  we used to go camping near Charleston and go to the beach. We have a lot of beaches and they are always crowded. Those who have property at the beaches  set up a big noise if anyone trespasses on their beach.

SHIRLEY  do you ever think it is because some parents let their kids do anything they want without teaching them right from wrong? Let them do what they want with no punishment or being taught they cannot do anything they can think of?
Don't hit their hands or backsides when they heed it? About time for some old fashioned strict parents?

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone..

Another lovely day here...and we have a few things to do. One is taking the garbage to the dump and another is hanging bedding out on the line.

Jane, TEN jars wow..that was 4 more than I thought you would get. Tis all good come winter time. Loved talking with you and your wonderful American accent :smitten: I had forgot to tell you, the pumpkins have blossoms on them but I am afraid of frost hitting them before the pumpkins form. I will cover them at night with hope of keeping the frost off  of them.

Shirley, this gun issue was a discussion over coffee yesterday . All the guns in the shooting have been ones not registered. A responsible owner has their guns/rifles under locked /dismantled conditions.I didn't have a gun cabinet so kept the rifle in one spot ,my bolt in another. One can kill with a cast iron frying pan, are they going to ban them also?? You 're right though prayers are needed for these ones with troubled minds.

Lloyd, did you get your motor in your lawnmower?

Gloria, good morning, you tip toes in on me .. nice to get cooler nights ,great for sleeping.

I had better go get ready for the day..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning!  I have been so lazy the last few days.  I haven't done much more than what is necessary to get through the day.  Unfortunately, I think the Fall allergy season has started even though we are still having heat in the 90's.  I have been fighting headaches and sinus aches.  The change in the angle of the sun shining through the woods is beginning to look like Fall and the nights are decidedly longer.

I haven't done much experimenting with the Instant Pot for the last few days but did buy the ingredients for a Cheesecake so I hope to get to that soon.  I looked up a recipe for zucchini relish and it sounds so good.  I doubt if I'll make any because I am the only relish eater in the house so even one small jar lasts forever.  David tasted the mustard I made but that is all so I am slowly finishing the very small amount I made and probably won't make any more.

Forgive me for not replying to each one here.  I enjoy reading about you, where you live, and what you do with your days.  I hope it will be a good day for everyone.

Doesn't take long for a day to disappear!!  We did take the garbage to the dump and saw evidence that the bears had been there. Last year we were lucky enough to see 3 cubs in one of the bins. Once a ladder was lowered to them ,it didn't take them long to get out and going.

We had just finished lunch when friend drove in so we had a wonderful visit with them. They have a three wheeled motorcycle and enjoy getting out.

I picked the beans and will drop some off at my sisters tomorrow when we go to town. Need to find out from the neighbour what all she would like us to bring back from Costco for them.

Phyliss, that is the next recipe that I would like to do, just need to find the right pan for it.

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Yep I have cheesecake on my agenda for the IP too.  I've already made the cusard twice and I love it.

AMY, I think I got more relish due to the size of the veggies that went into it.  My zucchinis were probably a bit bigger and I'm pretty sure my onions were bigger.  I even cut back on one.  Even the peppers were pretty good sized.  But I bet it's as good as it was the last time.

My sister found out I made it and now she's on the list for a jar and when she gets a jar, so does my niece.  All I have to do is label them and then they can go in the "attic", which is really my back room.

The dogs are waiting Impatiently for their supper so I better go see to that and then we'll need to take a walk after it cools down and before it gets dark.  I hope everyone feels better, stays well, cools off, gets rain, or whatever it is you need the most.

Almost forgot, AMY, pumpkins are being sold around here into November.  Must be the frost doesn't really do a lot of damage to them.  Maybe yours will survive.  Cindy has many blossoms on hers in Texas, too but also a longer growing season!  I'm as excited as you all are!

Gotta run!  Annie says it's time to eat.

no  Amy as Glory said the older we get the Less our bodies corporate. when I was young and worked in blacksmith shop even when we had out side temp in July and august of 110º and in front of the forge was hotter than that. i would start at 6 AM in the morning with only a short room temperature water drink under a shade of a tree in the side yard. we had no A C or fans in those days. but also folks never lived as long as we do now days. but now that we have gotten used to AC I will not trade back. Like  a deceased neighbor said good old days heck only thing good old days we had a strong back and a week mined, and mine has gotten weaker over the tears. well I worked on some miner repairs on the R V. and have the steps moving in and out smoothly. am going to camping world tomorrow and see if we can get the satellite dish to work proper for the TV. if that all goes well we will go on our way the next day east down I70 toward Pennsylvania with stop at Jane's wally world lot. and see her  on way  to see our Kinfolks. see you all tomorrow. so early to bed and sweet dreams tonight.

I'll take care of the lights again tonight but I won't lock the door.  SHIRLEY hasn't been by and I left a glass of decaf Iced coffee for her.  I don't want to keep her awake with caffeine.

I'm off to Dreamland.   I wish you all a peaceful sleep and a good tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane, I am the one that drinks a cup of coffee & puts me right to sleep. This body doesn't run like most. That's why I don't argue with it about meds.

Phyllis, we are starting allergy season early in KS, too. Everyone is complaining about the face & head hurting. It looked like late August until we got some rain this week. Now my grass is green again. I dumped nearly 2" out of the rain gauge today, was an accumulation of the week.

Lloyd, safe travels and happy days.

Gloria, I sometimes think young parents are more interested in what their kids wear (in style) than how they act. I am shocked to see how many expect their parents to baby sit all the time, want their "date nights" with spouses, etc. One of our neighbors called me "sergeant of the guard" of the neighborhood because she never knew where her kids were, even had one lost with only a diaper on in middle of winter.  My mother had a saying that, "you owe your kids discipline as much as food and water".... but I am old fashioned in a lot of ways. By the way, that elephant & goose video was a hoot. At first I thought I wasn't going to get to see but finally downloaded. Thanks.

I had 2 naps today to make up for lack of sleep last night. Finally got a little over 7 hours sleep. Fed cats their midnight snack later than usual. Like opening an oven so hot & humid yet tonight. Real feel of 94 degrees at nearly 11:00 pm.

Amy, I'm really impressed with having bear cubs in your area... you need a good zoom camera to show us. I have not been good about taking pics the last year. Guess I need to have a talk with myself & get an attitude adjustment.

I'll turn out the lights, few things to put away before I go to bed. Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Good morning g everyone..

It has been a long time since I turned the lights on. Coffee, tea and cinnamon rolls are ready in the hidey hole.

We are off to the city in a bit  for an appointment ,then Costco  for a few items for neighbours. I can hear the birds just starting to wake up outside now.

Shirley, these three were in a garbage bin, a big bin and I did get some photos with my phone but not good  ones. They sure were cute and really scampered out of there when the ladder was lowered for them.

Lloyd, safe travels for you and Nancy, enjoy your time away ,you both sure earned a vacation.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning from Central PA!  Thanks for taking care of the lights and for the coffee and goodies this morning.  The doggies have been out and we're waiting for the boinger.  I think they're already starting to adjust to the later light in the morning.  This morning they didn't get me up ntil 5:45.  It's been closer to 5 all summer.

SHIRLEY, I forgot you're the one who doesn't stay awake on caffeine.  I'm the same way.  Back in college when everyone was drinking coffee so they could stay up all night and study for exams, they all knew to wake me if I fell asleep.  Coffee just never kept me awake.

Today is a Wally World Day for me so wish me smiles!  I have to be there at 9 and that means I have to fight for a register that doesn't freeze me out.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Good morning everyone, after waking around  4 every morning lately I sleep late, woke after  6 and must  say that  feels better. Hope I am getting back to my normal sleep again. Today is a holiday here, We are the only state that celebrates VJ day, the end of WW2.

AMY  you never know when I will tip toe in anymore. just heard on the weather that some places here got down to upper 50's last night. 61° here now.

PHYLLIS  I pull my shades down in the afternoon to help block the heat of the sun shine in my windows so have not  noticed much about the days getting shorter and it has still been dark when I wake in the wee hours of the morning. Today I woke late and it was already light.

JANE  my daughter had a friend who had an order into her every year for 2 jars of the relish and she paid he for them. Mostly my SIL ate most of the relish.

LLOYD  hope every thing goes good and you can head out on your trip.

SHIRLEY  wish I could sleep during the day,  By late afternoon I feel worn out but will not go to bed too early.

JANE  all smiling customers for you today.

Have a good day.

LLOYD, I got your message today.  I was on the register and my phone was turned off.  We're not allowed to answer our phones when we're on the register.  I tried to email you but couldn't find an email in your info.  Then I tried to call you back and the message said that you are not set up to receive messages.  The number you called is my cell phone.  I'm off tomorrow but I work 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday and then I'm off on Thursday.  If you could call me in the morning and let me know your plans, that would be good.

I'm going to try one more thing for email.  I might have your email somewhere else.  If I don't email you, I'll be waiting for your call.

Today was a pretty good day for work and then my neighbor brought me a zucchini.  It was enormous!  Just for the fun of it, I weighed it and it weighed a little over 3 pounds!  That's big!!!

I might not be back to say good night to everyone and you all might have to take care of the lights and the dirty dishes tonight.  I feel a nap coming on!

I wish you all a good night...just in case!

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.

I have been on edge today as my brother drove himself to the hospital early this morning in terrible pain.  It is determined that he needs his gall bladder out and they are trying to get him a slot to do the surgery.  Got him in around 5 PM and we are still waiting to hear he is out and doing OK.  He lives clear the other side of town so we can not be of much help with our schedule, but it appears his wife and step sons are able to help out.  His wife has not driven in over two years due to the fact that she require more oxygen than a container of oxygen can provide.  She maxes out a concentrator.

Nothing more to say.....I hope everyone had a good day.

I wish you all a good rest of your evening.

Hope he is okay, Jenn, I didn't realize he lived in Denver. Hardly hear about "gall bladder attacks" anymore. I remember my mother & her friends talking about "eating too much chocolate" or "drinking too much coffee"... never knew if that was true, really one of the triggers for gall bladder problems. My brother was also using so much oxygen he was not comfortable being gone from his big tanks & hose for long. Not sure they had the concentrators available then, he carried a fairly large canister at his wife's funeral & he lived a year after that. Cas never needed oxygen, a lung specialist said his lungs were fine, just his heart muscle too weak to pump the oxyten. Getting old certainly has it's scary moments. Hugs to you, can't stop the worrying, though. I do keep a card with the Serenity Prayer inside my Kindle & read it every time I turn the Kindle on... so much truth in that prayer.

God Bless & sweet dreams to all. Shirley

Denver we are adding you all to our prayer list.
JaneS as of now we plan on loading the R V tomorrow. and tomorrow a Mackinac is coming here to fix the gearshift on my big tractor. you have to take the seat assemble out to get to the gear shifts. and i am not Strong enough to
do that anymore. I am in the process of getting things in shape to have a auction and get all my equipment in shape to sell. I was going to weight until after the firs of the year for tax poppers. but the more things that pop up I think I am going to bite the bullet sell and let uncle Sam have the $$$$. we got the sidelight dome programmed, so when we are some place for a few days we can watch a movie. I will cal you tomorrow and let you know when we are going to be coming your way,we have more time than money. If it doesn't work going we will make it coming back, maybe both ways if you can take that much if us. we plan on jogging through Canada and seeing Niagara falls. we have a second bed full size, if you want to grab a friend and go with us, good Night and sweet dreams. we can talk about that tomorrow.

Good morning everyone.

Woke to the sound of geese practising for their long flight...at times you would think they are flying right through the house!

Yesterday was a good day, appointment met ,then on to Costco and home. No more trips for a while until Sept I think then that is a CT scan for hubby.

Today is pick up dog food, home then take the van back in for an oil change this afternoon. This will be the first time at this garage so we shall see how it all works out.

Lloyd, have a safe trip and don't forget photos please.

Jenny ,prayers for your brother, my son has his gall bladder out and it was done by laparoscopy. He had no problems after surgery  and no more pain either!

Better get going here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone  69°, warmer than the other mornings since last Friday. Temperature rising again with rain in the forecast for later today with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon.

LLOYD  hope every thing works out great today so tomorrow you can get  away on your trip.

JANE  has the Meltonin really helped you sleep better? My CNA told me that on doctors orders her oldest grandson (8 years old) needs to take it for a good sleep and it has helped him for almost a year. Reading what you said lately I had her get me some yesterday. Took one last night and am lucky if I got 3 hours sleep. This morning I woke at 4 and tried going back to sleep but no way and now I feel drowsy. A sleeping pill makes me feel like that, too. That will keep me awake all night.

JENNY  hope you brother is doing good. My daughter's daughter in law just had her gall bladder out. No big incision like they used to do. I will say prayers for him.

SHIRLEY  I know grandson's wife drinks/drank too much coke and liked greasy burgers.

AMY  always great to have a break between appointments. I know I like it when I have a couple of months of just doing what I want.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "good morning" to you LLOYD!  Thanks for the offer but things are happening here that need my attention and I don't have any vacation time to take.  I'll look forward to a visit from you and Nancy any time you can make it.  Tomorrow is a work day and I'll be on the register from 10 to 2.  I can't answer the phone then.  The best time is after 7 pm.  I don't drive at night so I'm right next to the phone.

My cleaning dynamo will be here around 10 so I'll be all spiffy today.  After she leaves, I have a recipe I want to try for supper today.  I was going to do it yesterday but I just wasn't up to it.

We've got rain today.  I'm not sure when it started but it's nice and gentle....just enough to water the posies but not loud and ominous to scare the puppies.

I wish you all a lovely day.
Make it your own in every way!

Added note:  GLORIA and AMY you sneaked in while I was typing.  GLORIA, yes the melatonin does help me but not every time I take it and I don't take it ever night.  Also, when I started it, nothing felt different the first night but the second night I got the first good night sleep I've had in a long time.

Have to scoot and feed the pups.  The boinger is going off and they both heard it!

Amy, I went for the Cabbage Roll Casserole, but there were so many things in the way of getting there that I gave up.  I made a casserole once in the oven and we loved it so I thought I'd give the recipe to Tom.  I think if I can find my original recipe and send it to Tom, he might be able to improvise.  He won't use a cookbook, but uses only recipes on his tablet which is more convenient for him.

Maybe there is one there that you would enjoy. I love the fact that it is all in one pot and you don't heat up the house with the oven.

Amy, thanks, I sent him all three recipes.  We have only a 3-qt IP but Tom can cut down on stuff to fit our stomachs!  They all sound delicious and have the same ingredients as the one I made in the oven.

What Tom cooks is tasty, but he doesn't favor casseroles and I do.  Then I have good left-overs.  I have an idea his mother didn't fix casseroles and that is a shame because she worked many years when the boys were small.

One memory I have - Tom's mother liked food well done.  Steaks were like leather, but she didn't fix them at home, it was how she ordered them in a restaurant.  I love asparagus and she knew it so one time I was there we had asparagus - and it was well done!  I could hardly eat it, it was so squishy!  I don't like the way Tom fixes it either; I just want asparagus steamed!

Incidentally, Dot is not Tom's mother; Norm was divorced before he met and married Dot.

Thanks for the links.

AMY, I tried to open the Cabbage Soup recipe, too but like Mary Ann said, it was all chopped up and Lowe's ads kept jumping in front of stuff.  I tried to print it but it won't print.  And I can' copy it and print it on my word pad.  It sounds good though and pretty easy.

My cleaning dynamo left and now my house is not only clean on the outside, it's also clean on the inside.

I have to make supper or the doggies and me a little early because tonight is the last free Alfred Hitchcock movie.  It's REAR WINDOW with James Stewart and Grace Kelly.  It's another of my favorites.

Now I'm going to check out the zzzzzs on the sofa.

LLOYD, if you call, I won't be home until about 9:30 Eastern time.  That's 8:30 your time.  Can you call after that or tomorrow night?

Jane and Mary Ann, recipe should be in your email now. I would like a bit more cabbage in it. I didn't add all the spices as hubby doesn't care for them but garlic and pepper are a must and it is so good!! I will make it again. Lots to freeze too.

Well, I did get my oil changed and my ESIM valve has a swollen line .they tried a quick fix but that didn't work so back in it goes when the part comes in.

What a mixed up day..even forgot the tub of ice cream in the van...think we did get it in time but may have to eat some..oh dear.. :2funny:

A full morning of throat skin cancer surgery - I have no cancer.  Still, several weeks of recovery but I am so elated....turning cartwheels.  I need to sew some small neck scarves to hide the white bandages but that is no problem.

Jenny:  So glad you two are visiting with your sons often. Is the California boy still there?  I know he was near the fire area.

I had to sit down and make three appointments for us and the internet and phone were down for awhile - it just stops too many things when that happens.

Everyone!!! Take care of yourselves by making your doctor appointments.  Get a second opinion if the first one doesn't look right.

Amy, I got the recipe for the soup and I will see that Tom gets it.  My "cleaning dynamo" is here now so I will wait until after she leaves.  We've done a lot of talking (she's Tom's friend) and I'm not sure how much work has been done, but that is as much my fault as hers.  I have never heard of Avocado oil, but other oils can be used (it said).

Jane, I'm afraid my "cleaning dynamo" is not as efficient as yours, but she does what I do not do, so I'm happy.

Carol, I'm happy that you have no cancer now.  That's an awful place to have it.

Mary Ann:  thank you - I do not like to mention everything but it is so important to have an appointment with a super knowledgeable health care worker.  I am just glad the silent stress is over.

I just mash avocados with different seasonings and spread it on toast.  Really funny that is so expensive in a restaurant.

Can't believe today the AC went out. Blower was blowing warm air, not a good thing. I turned it off to see if it had frozen up... my son says this kind won't freeze up.  :crazy2:   He was busy so I called the company that installed the furnace & AC 9 years ago (one more year to go). The part was a quick fix, tech said it would have cost $160 for the part if not under warranty... still cost me $173. for labor... BUT it is cool again. Talked to the house insurance company to make sure there weren't any changes to my policy before I wrote them a check. Groan-groan... Roofer was by to see what the paperwork was "they" sent today, same ole, same ole. He called the man instead of the woman this time & explained that all she had to do to verify price was call the company on the list she sent him, it's the company he buys from. I feel sorry for him with all the extra time he has had to spend jumping through her hoops! If nothing else happens, I am not going to think about anything all next week since the roofer will be on vacation. I do need a nap. I'll check in before going to bed.

Thank you for the many nice comments regarding my brother.  He is doing well, but did have to be opened up VS it being done laparoscopically.  He should be released to go home tomorrow.

SHIRLEY, glad you got someone out to deal with the A/C.

CAROL, I am so happy to read your scare has turned out OK.  I wish you would have let us share in your concerns.  Now we ca; keep you in our prayers that the wound will heal completely with out too much pain for you🥰

AMY, not a Good thing to forget to bring in and get in the freezer quickly!  Glad you did not forget it totally.  My dad left a bag of ice on the floor board of his car and it sure did soak the carpet good!

Pleasant dreams to all.

LLOYD, if you see this, I have not been able to reach you on the phone.  Your phone won't take a message.  Please don't try to call me today between 9:45 and 2:15 Eastern time.  I'll be on the register and I can't answer.  Any time before or after that is fine.  And I'm off tomorrow.

[/Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're waiting for the boinger for breakfast and then things will get busy around here.  I'll be taking the doggies for a walk and getting myself ready for WM.

I wish you all a good day!  Anyone I haven't mentioned directly (Carol and Jenn's brother in particular) I have remembered in my prayers.  I do that as soon as I read that prayers are necessary.  For most of you, I send prayers daily.  Please don't think that if I don't say anything, I don't care. I do.  I just have a very bad memory!

Now it's almost time for the boinger.  I better close and get on my horse!  It's going to be a busy day.  Make it a good one!

Good morning everyone, had the best sleep last night than I have had for at least a month. I took another melatonin about 7 last night and by 8 I started feeling sleepy, got to bed at 9 and woke at 7 this morning.

JANE  thank you for talking about that little pill. My CNA has been talking about it too. Her grandson has to take it. I cannot imagine an 8 year old being not being able to sleep.

AMY  I liked cabbage rolls but too much work so years ago before I ever heard of the casserole I started doing it that way and my family liked it better. Like many years ago I mixed up the batter for chocolate chip cookies and ran out of energy to make cookies so put the batter into an oblong baking dish and family loved those squares. That was almost  50 years ago. Now they have a recipe for it.

CAROL  so good to read that you have NO cancer. That is always the best news. My oldest brother had throat cancer, not nice. Avocado is something I cannot swallow and my daughter loves it.

SHIRLEY  you make me glad I do not own a house. You have way too many problems for me to handle.

LLOYD  by now I hope you are on the road and going for a good adventure. Drive careful and you and Nancy have a wonderful time.

AMY  that huge zucchini would make a lot of relish.

JANE  hope the horse you got on was a gentle one that gave you a gentle ride.

I made this for dinner night before last.  I'm warning you....it is dangerously addictive.....but it is a great easy and quick dessert.  I used choc. chips and salted butter instead of what the recipe calls for and it tasted wonderful to me but I don't have the picky palate that some of these recipe writer's seem to have.  Try it but don't blame me if you become addicted.

https://www.crunchycreamysweet.com/instant-pot-chocolate-lava-cake/

Hot, humid, and more rain here.  Not going anywhere if I can help it but I do have to get my hair cut this afternoon.

David had his second Shingrix shot on Monday and had a bit of a reaction.  He said he didn't feel too good when he got up yesterday and was sitting at the breakfast table and passed out.  He has done this before and is only out for a few seconds but it scares me to death.  When it happened a few weeks ago I called EMS and they thought he might be having a heart attack and took him to the Emergency Room.  The doctors there did tests and decided it was a Vasovagal episode.  He seemed better by the end of the day yesterday and no more fainting.

Have a good trip, Lloyd, and drive safely.

Oh, Carol... so glad your nightmare turned out as well as it did. My brother in law had that surgery of the worst kind, they removed 70% on his tongue & had to saw his lower jaw in half to replace the tongue with tissue from his wrist & then patched that wrist with tissue from his thigh. Went in at 6:00 am & finished surgery about midnight. We didn't dream he would be able to live a normal life, talk or even eat... but all these years later he is still going strong. But I wouldn't want to think of that for anyone again. Hugs to you.

Jenny, also good news about your brother. Tell your father not to feel bad about the ice... this week I was sorting some stuff in the freezer, sat a big container of cooked chicken breasts on top & forgot about it. Next day when getting something else out I saw that container (about the size of a loaf of bread!) thawed out. I had cooked it thinking it would be handy for a quick meal when someone comes by, I use all the herbs listed for "pheasant under glass" that takes a good hour & half to bake in the oven. Now it is going down to the river bank for wild critters to enjoy, just a plate size at a time, 2 more servings of it. I'm stretching my pain out having to "dump" it so I don't let that happen again!

Jane, like you, when I settle down at night and talk to God, I do remember everyone in here and ask that HE be gentle, we know he is loving with all but doesn't hurt to ask for special attention, right?

Amy, my brother fixed my sons a skillet of potatoes & zucchini & scrambled hamburger after they helped him hoe one evening, they talked about it for a long time, best food they ever ate! My brother loved to cook & would invent meals from his garden. He was the one that spent the last 9 months of WWII in a German POW camp.

It is cooler here this morning, got the sliding door open with screen closed, sure haven't had many flies this summer. I do have to get busy & eat, cats have been fed, I must vac the pool before it gets too hot.

Lloyd, hope this cooler weather heads your way to start off your journey. Safe travels.

Oops, Phyllis, you & Gloria snuck in while I was thinking & typing. I can imagine your fright with David passing out like that. Hope that doesn't happen again. Is he anemic?  I'm glad I don't have an instant pot, all these recipes sound great & I don't need anything else to entice me to eat more!

Gloria, I'm interested in the melatonin amount you take, my daughter & her oldest son have a terrible time going to sleep at times. She always went to bed early but if she doesn't, then she can't go to sleep. I am not fond of avacados but my daughter loves them. I guess they are good for us BUT....she makes fresh guacammole dip all the time.

SHIRLEY, my Melatonin bottle says 500 MG.  You are supposed to take one a half hour before bedtime.  But I found out that I still have to get up about 2 hours after I go to bed so that's when I take the Melatonin.  It helps me get back to sleep and that was always a problem for me. It also says to consult your healthcare specialist if you are taking any prescription meds or have a medical condition.

Gotta run!  WM calls!

Good morning.  I am just marking my place.

It is early and nothing exciting has occurred yet.  It  takes me so long to get myself going in the morning.

I sure hope that all of you who have been having some health issues are all feeling a lot better this morning.  I , too, keep you all in my thoughts, just don't mention each individually all the time.

I will send safe travel wishes to Lloyd  and Nancy !

It is a kind of cloudy morning, but looks like the sun might be try to make an appearance.

Hope everyone has a good day.

BUBBLE, I got into this zucchini relish thing because of AMY.  A while back everyone I knew was overrun with zucchini and I have some recipes that I really love but I was running out of ideas.  So I was in here and I said, "What does one do with so many zucchini?".  AMY answered, "You could make relish!".  She sent me the reipe and I did and I've been making it ever since.  I guarantee, you won't hae enough....especially if your friends find out you made it!

I have to go and get supper started.  I have a recipe I want to try and tomorrow, I'm going to make the Pina Colada Bread with zucchini in it.  I've had he recipe lying there for a week now.

Maybe I'll make Aunt Josephine's casserole, too.

Hi JOY, nice to "see" you!
