Before winter comes and locks the land
Imprisons with ice tipped hand
I must gather, set aside and store
Supplies needed to take me through.
Boxes of clouds from a summer day,
Sunrise and sunset at the shore.
A shell to hold against my ear
To hear the sea, feel the sand warm
From day long shining sun.
Baskets of smells, earth fresh from
A warm spring shower.
Damask roses heady scent
To envelope me in winters dark.
Spring carnations, hyacinths,
New mown grass.
Bushels of sounds, a robin's song,
Beating of wings across the sky.
Buzz of bees hovering, sipping
Nectar from the lily's cup.
Trunks of things you do not see
When winter closes in.
A spiders web of lacy lightness,
Silvered sparkled in morning dew.
Fireflies sending messages after dark,
Moonflowers blooming on the vine.
All the smells and sounds and sights
Stored in my mind for cold winter nights.

Retirement

I worked forty-five years for someone else
So that I could retire.
I dreamed of sleeping late
And sitting by the fire.

I dreamed of long vacations,
Enjoying stage and song.
But, let me set you straight on that concept,
It is simply wrong.

I did junk my safety glasses
And the work boots that cramped my toes.
But, the rest of it had a mind of it's own
And this is how it goes.

My wife had been thinking of retirement
And had plans of her own.
She had spent much time with the kids
But, now they are grown and gone.

We sold our cattle and horses
So we wouldn't have that chore.
I poured concrete over my alarm clock
But, I still wake up at four.

I get my eyes checked on Monday.
She gets hers checked the next day.
I go for a colon check on Wednesday
And pass my wife going the other way.

I have a dental appointment on Thursday
She goes for a test on her heart.
Friday, we go get prescriptions filled
And browse a while at Wal-Mart.

Saturdays, we just stay home
And try to get the paper work right.
We can't take any overnight trips
'Cause we can't see to drive at night.

Restroom confusion keeps us out of church on Sunday
And we really do hate that.
There's nothing wrong with the restrooms,
We just can't remember where they're at.

We don't need to plan next week,
Just make sure we can drive.
And not forget where the hospitals and clinics are.
We'll need them to survive.

So, don't build your castles too high, my friend,
While strolling through the clover.
This is a typical week in retirement
And on Monday we start all over!

Great graphics, Bubble, such an imagination & artistic skill. I would love to see what you would have done with a paintbrush & canvas. The prose is "right on" with how it is. Good thoughts. Thank you for all that and the new place to visit.

Tom decided he wanted out at 2:00 am and I was hungry so now he is back inside and my tummy is full, both going back to bed. Callie & Tiger didn't even come beg for a bite to eat.

Temps are 35° with feels like of 23°, warmest it's been for a couple days. Today & tomorrow should melt off the snow, never had enough to slide down the hill on my Sno Nut. :tissue:

Wishing all a wonderful week-end.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Except for Shirley making a visit in the middle of the night, I seem to be first in today.  Right now it's 9º out there and I sure don't want to stay out very long!  Mickie and I are waiting for the boinger and then breakfast.

BUBBLE, thanks for the nice new place to be.  I love the pics and the poetry.  I can sure relate to the "retirement" one.  The only difference between working and retirement for me is that now when I make an appointment, I don't have to say "Could you make that on Tuesday or Thursday?"  I can go just anytime!

Today, I have to pick Frankie up after work and try to get her license app done.  Please say a pray that it all works out because I think both of us are getting ready to throw up our hands.

I hope you all have a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with all of us!

Good morning everyone..

Much warmer this morning -2 ° F nice and sunny too!!
Need to take garbage  to the dump and then home to cook the turkey up for the dogs.

The soak in the hot tub last night took away some of the aches from the waltz with the snow blower and an easy day today should do the rest.

Bubble ,great morning start! I can relate to the retirement poem and I am going to print that off. I traded my carpenters apron for a kitchen apron.

Jane ,hope all works out for you and Frankie today.

Shirley, I just went to feed the crow that was hollering........he hasn't done that since fall. I think they to go where it is warmer and now he is back. Should have picked up a bag of cracked corn for them. LOTS of snow here if you want to use your sno  nut or just make snow angles.

Enjoy your day everyone..

well this computer is pulling tricks this morning Like someone talked about a day or two ago. I wrote a post about a sparrow chasing a chicken hawk off its place on a limb and dive bombing it as they flew. and hit post and out it went poof away. oh well, that is nerve for sure.

We had out trip to the dump......and it was amazing!! We watched a bald eagle take flight then settle back down on a branch . I keep saying I am going to take my camera and I keep forgetting :tickedoff:   Beautiful bird I could watch him all day!

Lloyd, that sparrow wasn't afraid of that hawk!!  I like watching crows dive bomb ravens here.ravens don't get too flustered about it.  Getting 7.5 hours sleep was good..now you are all set for the day.

Bubble, one of the most fun things I did with paintbrush & oil was to get the outside curved slabs of trees that were thrown out at the mill, sold or given for firewood. I would dig a hole through the bark & paint a raccoon peeking out of the hole. I put a sawtooth hanger on the back & would sell as many as I brought to the art shows. One of the artists asked me if I didn't feel like I was "prostituting my talent" and I just grinned & told her "they paid for all my art supplies, including cameras, and since I know the difference between FINE art and commercial, I was at least painting and not selling paint in a store to earn the money". She was jealous because people would gather around my stall & by the 2 day end, my work was all sold & hers went begging, and I had fun. I've seen painted rocks & think they are darling, but I don't have the wild imagination to do them! I never saved one of the raccoons for myself & didn't even take a photo of them, or I'd show you. Love to see a photo of your rocks, if you have one. Since this will probably be my last trip to Colorado I will look for the smooth rocks found in the mountain streams & see if I can create one for a souvenir. Thanks for the idea!

Amy, we used to have a whole crowd of crows that would hang around the Canada geese when they came for corn, but have not had geese or crows winter here for quite a few years. We have some geese that stay here all year that will still come to eat along the bank, I see them at the lakes near new developments, homeowners hate the mess they make. The crows actually are smart and have a sense of humor, one kept us laughing one day as it would hop on a goose until the goose would fly off, then it would work on another, just irritate them until they got out of it's way & then it would search the ground for the corn my husband took out for the young geese. We put twine across the back of our lot & the geese would just lay down by the twine & wait for him to come out with corn. I also would get a rack of day old bread from the store (enough to fill the big van for $7) that I fed them every day. The parents would bring the babies across the river when I went down the hill giving a whistle. Got photos of Mom & Dad herding the whole flock of babies in the swift water. When they got feathers to fly the parents would take them off so I really didn't get a chance to pet/play with them long. But they remembered from year to year. I quit feeding them when the cats showed up & caught the babies, at one time quite a few feral cats. We had 4 cats fixed & let Animal Control trap some to exterminate, guess most of the original ferals are dead now. As far as I know feral cats don't have any natural enemies except starvation and I hate having them catch the baby ducks & geese and birds.

I am thinking over the pet food Amy & Jane cook for the pups, my sister did that for their dog & the one our sister-in-law had. I know she cooked chicken & rice, but do you girls put in veggies as well? When we had a German Shepherd I fed her veggies & foods like the kids ate, she also go big bones from the butcher. They don't offer bones anymore, can't even buy them to make soup. I bought a package of ground turkey & after tasting it decided to freeze for the cats. Only problem is these cats are so spoiled they wouldn't eat like raw hamburger so took it down to the river for whatever eats down there. Figure it saves life of a bird when that critter has a full tummy without hunting. But I am curious what all you put in your dog food. I am so surprised how pleased these cats are with the tuna in oil instead of water. I guess they do require oil since they are not scratching as much as before. Not fleas so think dry skin.

Better get a move on. Jane, my daughter retired a year ago & not only has her health improved dramatically, but she keeps so busy she doesn't know how she found time to work.

:hello:  :eat: Back atcha, Callie! Had sun a little while ago, cats went out & sun went behind clouds so all 3 back inside. I fell off the wagon & made a fresh pot of coffee this morning, had a mug & half and really want one more cup. With my extra sleep this morning I still didn't get 6 hours in so have jobs to do before another nap. Plan is to sneak down to the store to see if they half price the Russell Stover pecan delights/turtles like they did after Christmas. I am on my last box & do love them. One a day doesn't hurt, right?

I'm sure someone will have popped in while I've been thinking & typing, hate to see how long this has become. I can only view about an inch screen of text on this laptop, when typing in this little post box. I've talked enough for a week so will shut up & see who/whom? got in before me.

Good morning, Lloyd! Interesting to watch the birds try to protect their nests or territory, isn't it? Looks like you are getting good sleep. Any night I get 6 hours I feel lucky, I've gotten into a bad habit of getting up any time I wake up & heading to the kitchen to eat, then a nap during the day to make up to 6 hours, all my body needs to keep running.

Amy, put your camera in you pocket & egg in your boot (don't mix up), beat it back to the dump & show us that eagle!  I've only seen one high in the sky overhead this winter, and never quick enough with the camera.

Good morning everyone. All bright sunny one and a whole 15.

JANE  I beat you yesterday because I was up at 3:am. Made up for it this morning and got up at 10.

AMY  think I will have to send your cute graphic to my daughter today. Might cheer her up a bit. This was the coest night we had this winter but when I see what it is up there in the NORTH I will not complain, just stay inside.

My oldest son and DIL are leaving for Florida  today and on to a cruise, My second son called  and is on his way here. He is here now. I am really slow typing these days.

I'm back. I think my son misses me and that is whey he comes every Saturday. When I lived in the apartment in his house he came upstairs every day when he got home from work.

LLOYD  what were you doing when you fell? Something you should not have been doing? Glad you lost weight, keep that up and even your diabetes should get better.

SHIRLEY  I agree with you, this is really the first time that the cold has bothered me and makes me feel I am really old now. So far at least I have not fallen but had some close calls.

PHYLLIS  we have sunshine today and yesterday was sunny all day but the  temperature keept falling all day. This has really been a weird winter so far. January broke records for being warmer. Had a lot of rain ahd these bones of mine are rebelling with the dampness.

SHIRLEY  if you get  that salmon recipe I would appreciate you sharing it with me. Sounds OK with differnt spices you used. I know I should eat more fish but  don' t really know how  to cook it e‪xcept fried. Wish my son and DIL had cancelled their  trip by plane and ship this year.

MARY ANN  nice seeing you here today.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link, will check it out.

CALLIE  that show you saw sounds different.

BUBBLE great graphics, love the painting of the rainbow. Retirement is too true for some of us. I cannot go far and only if someone takes me. Then mostly to doctor or dentist.

SHIRLEY  stay off  that Sno Nut unless someone is there with you. Don't want you to have an accident going down that hill and no one knows where you are.

LLOYD  I have read before of a sparrow chasing a hawk, brave little birds.

I started this about 10:30 this morning, interruptions and more coffee and my son's visit, finaly my breakfast. Time to get  a move on.

Have a good day.

Shirley, one needs to go early before a lot of vehicles get there to take good photos but I will do it next time. Will try not to mix up camera and egg:) These dogs have different tastes at times. Jesse will eat raw or cooked carrot but Babe wants hers cooked. Both eat brussel sprouts ,broccoli, cauliflower and beans raw or cooked. I also give them cooked rice in their food . How I come to find out dogs eat beans was when I found Sassy on her belly in the bean patch!! I couldn't figure out why so little beans until then. Now I plant about 4 packages so the dogs will get a feed. PS we now have a fence around the garden and I do the picking. I did have a horse that loved the wild raspberries, she could clean the bushes off quicker than I could.

Bubble and Michael, thank you for fixing the problem with the recipes.

Gloria,Bubble put the graphics on today and yes they are cute. The day is turning out not too bad here..for a while the wind was whipping around the snow but not so much now.

I'm still searching for the salmon recipe I used (and added the herbs to)... but have not found so far & been reading everything I can get my eyes on. Thanks for the links to Larry's recipe folder, I went through everything. All I remember for sure was that I washed the whole salmon off (I paid a little extra for skinless/boneless & had NO waste at all). Then I rubbed extra virgin olive oil all over it (good massage), salt & pepper & went through my rack of mixed spices & sprinkled on everything that mentioned good for fish. It was SO good... baked in the oven a short time but not sure the temp, I tested to be sure flaky & the thicker part I made sure was frozen & not too done because I had decided to reheat I would put a pat of butter in a little egg skillet with lid & heat, toast, whatever term... & it was really good, did not taste like leftover. One package I didn't thaw first so put in the microwave for maybe 30 seconds... then the butter toast... but it tasted kind of fishy. The whole salmon cost $20 at Sam's Club (skinless/boneless), I ate a lot that first meal & made up 5 packages of a full meal size each to freeze. When I had other foods with it I only ate about half of the package, so when you compare what we (I) spend on fast food meal, this salmon is a bargain. I'm just not positive of oven temp & since I didn't have any lemon, did have a citrus grill (Tone's), Rosemary garlic (Tone's) and Webber roasted garlic & herbs. I got the bottles out & have at least 8 or 10 other types, I'm a sucker for the demonstrators in Sam's Club! We use a lot of these spices when cooking out/camping. My favorite is Chicago Steak for any beef (Webber). I'm guessing I must have seen the recipe when I had a subscription to some cooking magazine & it also included online to my e=mail. I gave all the magazines away & finally put the online recipes into SPAM, so can't look it up that way. I will give it a try since I already bought the salmon, want to serve it when my youngest son comes by on Wednesday. It had a "use by" date so will fix it fresh then. I'll try to remember to take a photo when it is still in the pan next week! Thanks for all the help, everyone!

Amy, do you put the cooked veggies in with the rice & meat? I suppose it will take the cats a while to get used to eating veggies. I used to bring grass in for old LaurenKat when we didn't let her out, but they can find grass (except winter) since these go out. I'm sure the rice, turkey & veggies would be better for them now that they are so old. The babies are 11 & no clue how old their mother is, except we were told by the neighbor that fed her she had been around their house for 2 years before she gave us the babies.

SHIRLEY, that's pretty much what my dogs all ate except that I cheated.  I buy a premix from Chewy call Dr. Harvey's Premix.  It's dry and you reconstituted it with boiling water, wait 8 minutes and add your own choice of meat and a little natural oil.  I also add a flea and tick powder that I get from a place called Earth Animal.com.  I've been using that for my last three dogs and the only tick I've ever found on and of them was 2 dead ones on two different dogs.  And there have been NO FLEAS!  I highly recommend it!

Frankie didn't get her license stuff done because she needs to go to both AAA and the DNV.  The DMV is only open on Friday and Saturday and AAA is closed on Saturday.  We can't seem to win this one.  We're aiming for next Friday.  She's planning to come spend Thursday night here so we can get an early start because she has to work at 1 p.m.

I'm going to try to get to bed a bit early tonight so I will wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Shirley,  I have a package of salmon steaks (filets) in my freezer.  Package says to thaw them for 21 hours in the fridge or under running water for about 3 minutes.  Heat oven to 450 degrees and bake 6 to 8 minutes, turning over once.  Doesn't say anything about seasoning but I  sprinkled with a little salt and lemon pepper.  Don't know why you couldn't season yours with the mixture you used.

Nothing of interest going on around here.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Good morning everyone. Already had 1 mug of coffee. Had to fill my weekly pill container, forgot to do it yesterday.

AMY  THE LAST DOG MY OLDEST SON HAD WOULD RO INTO THE ORCHARD AND PICK THE CRAB APPLES AND EAT them. Sorry for the caps. If she saw anyone eating an apple she would sit there watching them waiting for some of it. That was the Australian shepherd and the one I called my dog. I called her my shadow becase when I was there she followed me wherever I went. Hope you don't get much new snow.

JANE  when living in San Diego my daughter tried every thing for fleas for he dogs and nothing seemed to work for long. Since living in Arizona she has never seen a flea or tick on her dog. Maybe because it is so dry.

CALLIE  don't know if I have good dreams or nightmares because I have never remembered any. When I get to sleep I can sleep through a thunderstorm and even the phone ringing.

Yesterday with the sun shing brigh it ner got above the mid 20's and now it is 24. Maybe warmer today with sun and I can go out for fresh air?

Have a good day.

It's interesting, Gloria, that you sleep so well.  I hope to go home Thursday and sleep  in my own bed.  While here, I don't know whether I sleep or not.  I don't have the feeling of waking up.

I haven't looked to see what the temperature is but I can feel a chill in my room.  I'm not dressed yet but I do have on a sweater and I have a blanket over my upper legs.  If the sun shines, I won't mind.

Good morning everyone..

More snow last night ,so the waltz is on. A day of rest here.after the snow blowing. Need to pick apart the turkey too..

Mary Ann, home will feel so nice....hope Tom is feeling much better also.

Gloria, animals are funny. My friend came up to pick the gooseberries and said that Buttercup (cow) ran across the field to her and stuck her nose in the basket. She left as soon as she found out no grain ,just berries!

Jane, enjoy your day

Phyliss and Joy hope you both have a good day.

Lloyd, did you get a good nights sleep?

Callie and Shirley, you both have made mehungry for salmon. I used to do salmon fillets with a bit of mayo and then dill on that...bake like Callie's and it was good.

Better get my dancing clothes on boot too.

Enjoy your day everyone..

I am longing for some warmer weather even though I know that when summer arrives I'll be crabbing about the heat.  Sometimes I am all too human.  ::)

All is well here for the non.  In regards to the salmon....I am not a fish eater (my body doesn't tolerate it very well) but will eat it occasionally because it is supposedly good for us.  Like Callie, I use Lemon Pepper and that seems to be enough for us.  Lately I have been buying "Ancient Grain Encrusted Alaskan Cod" from Schwan's and David likes that very much.  Also, easy on the cook.

Lloyd, that Angel Food cake sounds so good.  I haven't had one for ages.

I hope Joy is doing well and that Mary Ann can come home this week.

Take care, All.

Here it is!

Broiled Salmon with Creamy Lemon Sauce

Phase 1

This deciptively simple salmon entree includes a sinfully rich tasting lemony sauce that will impress ever time.  For best results, squeeze your own fresh lemon juice.

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons capers
1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
1/2 cup fat-free sour cream
1 1/2 pounds salmon fillet

Preheat the oven to 350 F.  Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.

Heat the oil in a small saucepan over medium heat.  Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.  Reduce heat to low.  Stir in the lemon juice, capers, and lemon pepper seasoning and cook for 5 minutes.  Add the sour cream and cook for 5 minutes, or until heated through.

Meanwhile, place the salmon on the prepared baking sheet.  Bake for 20 minutes, or unitl the fish is just opaque.  Serve with the sauce.

Makes 4 servings

One turkey cooked picked and ready for the freezer, threw some rolled oats in this one. Now to do the next 12 lb turkey...

Tomereader, the salmon recipe sounds good.  I am not a salmon fan, but I'll try it some day.  Tom doesn't like fish, but I do.

Good morning everyone, 27 but feels like 21. Must be pretty windy again. Not as early here this morning, woke just before 5, better than 3:am, right?

MARY ANN  I sleep good one night and the next I am lucky to get 3 or 4  hours.  I used to get at least 7-8 good hours sleep without waking.  This has been going on the last few weeks. Hope you do go home Thursday, nothing like sleeping in your own bed.

AMY  so Buttercup did not want the gooseberries. Gosh I have not seen them in years. For some reason they are bammed in this state, something about them destroying some trees, cannot remember what ones. More snow for you to play with? We really have not had anything this month only a dusting a couple of times that melted in the rain that always follows.

LLOYD  plain angelfood cake is not too bad but the icing will not do much good for you. I like strawberries and whipped cream on a slice of it.

PHYLLIS  like you I am looking forward to warmer weather. Been to dold here for me to go outside for some fresh air and walking. I don't get Schwann's any more  but never tried their fish. Like you I know I should eat fish but seldom eat it. I did like their mac and cheese but no in the microwave. I would put it in a casserole and into the oven.

TOMEREADER  what you said about being big was easy to read.

Wish my favorite was here, I would ask her to cook fish for me, her husband loves fish and she makes it often for him. Time for my second mug of coffee.

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone.

Warmer temp is -3° F this morning. So far looking like a great day. Need to do domestic duties (thanks Callie)and I was going to mail a letter but forgot it was Family Day. Some places may be open, not many and the post office will be closed.
Yesterday the neighbour came and borrowed our wheelchair, he had to take his Mom to the city for a CT scan if an xray here didn't show anything.I went over and fed the dog and cat for them and will hear how his Mom is later today. She is 93 yrs old and sharp as a tack!

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Bubble, thank you for posting that.  I just finished picking the turkey and both dogs stayed close...with hopes I would drop some. I did drop part of a raw carrot and Jesse took care of that. They don't know it but I did save a bit of turkey for us to make a sandwich for lunch.

Laundry is blowing on the line and it is a lovely day!

Hi, Joy! Hope you get better fast & the food is super good (dream on  ;)   )

Amy, that is so cute of your pup bringing in the wood! Thanks, Bubble for the link & posting.

Got warm enough today to open the sliding doors & air the house. The thermostat is set on 68 but the inside temp is 2 degrees warmer! Thermostat sets on the other side of an inside wall that gets sun. Quite sure the house smells better. Supposed to get colder for a few days so also aired the RV & charged batteries. Now I need a nap! All 3 cats had their supper & back out so have the house to myself. I noticed that one evergreen bush is covered with bag worms.... they are fresh & have the outsides of their bags covered with the berries from the bush. Some years the birds eat those berries, too bad they can't get the worms in the bags.  :knuppel2:

So nice to come by and see JOY'S post.  I wish you better every day!

I had an appointment with the chiropractor (in my case she's an applied kinesiologist).  I felt so good when I left there that I just wanted to curl up and sleep.  It's a little under an hour's drive to get home from there and as soon as Cathy dropped me off, I took Mickie for a walk, had something to eat and then curled up on the couch.  I slept for a good two hours!  I haven't slept that well since I fell in December!

We both had some supper and then I made the mistake of turning the TV on and I slept off and on ever since!  I wonder if I'll sleep in bed tonight!  We shall see.

SHIRLEY, I'm looking forward to the day that I can open the doors and windows and air out this house.  It always smells so good after a long, shut-in winter!

Now I'm off to check out my bed.  I wonder if there are as many zzzzs in there as there were on the couch?

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy and healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone.I have 2 different weather things on this PC one says 24 and the other  says 34. Take your choice, crazy computer. One says rain by 11am and the other says rain by 1pm. Then the one here in our posts says something different.

LLOYD  I have known too many diabetics whe think they can eat every thing they want and think their meds will take care of it. Still have to be careful what they eat. Saw it in my family. So far my children do not have it and neither do I.

AMY  love those stretches. So sad when some get old and are still have a good brain but the body starts falling apart. I am not 90 YET and my body sure does not want to do  I want anymore.  Drives me crazy watching someone do what I did better than they do and they are getting paid.

JANE  you don't really want to know about my day yester day. I had no CNA Friday and none yesterday either and no call from the woman who makes the schedule.  I know some celebrated President's day but these people worked, If no one comes today I will call my insurance company and complain.

AMY  love the foto of Jesse with the wood, looks as proud as can be helping his MOM with the wood.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link.

JOY  it is so good seeing your post. Maybe assisted living would be the best for you. I think about that at times but don't think I can afford it. You are missed in here.

SHIRLEY  wish I could open my windows and air this place out. We are not allowed to open window till it is over 60 outdside. Crazy manager and HER rules.

JANE  hope you slep great last night. I went to bed around 9 last night and woke at 5 this morning so had enough sleep to face the day.

Have a great day.

Good morning everyone..
We did have a skiff of snow overnight..with more to come today. Not sure when the music begins for the dance.

Finishing the jobs that didn't get done yesterday. I did manage to put over 24 lbs of turkey away for the dogs in the freezer.

Shirley, I would love to open the windows and doors to have the fresh air in.

Gloria, maybe there is a different company that could take over and be better at their job?

Better get a move on here..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Gloria thanks as long i do not have pain it is alright with me. just do not want any more head knock's or falls. so far it takes relay hard knocks to brake my bones. but i do not want any more of the ones that cause blood blades. I have had enough tubes in holes they drill in my head to rid the blood on the brain.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I did sleep well last night.  I must have been really worn out yesterday.  I didn't go to bed until almost midnight and I was awake and ready to roll at about 5:30 with no breaks or wakes in the meantime.  I'll take that every night!

LLOYD, if you want to avoid those needles, avoid the things that cause them to be used on you.  Mind the drs. and mind Nancy and leave the chores to someone else.  If they don't get done, well...they'll be there later.

When I got up this morning, Mickie got her pill and we went out for a "quickie", then we came in and waited for the boinger for breakfast.  We had it a little early this morning and it's only 10:30 and she's telling me it's time for lunch.  We've already had a nice long walk and we'll surely have another later.

I think Frankie is off today and if she is, she's coming over here to give her doggie a bath (she doesn't have a bath tub, just a shower) and then she's giving Mickie a bath, too.  She says that's payback for all the rides I've given her.  I don't need payback but it's nice!

I've got the chicken cooked for the dog food (not nearly as much as AMY did) but enough for 3 batches of food mixed up.  With the turkey and elk in the freezer that will last about a month.  I also saved out enough to make chicken noodle corn soup whenever it is that Frankie is coming over  She loves it and so do I!

JOY, keep on keeping on!  We want you all better.  You enjoy your family so much that we all want you to have that continue!  And I'm sure they are all looking after you because it's plain to tell, they LOVE YOU!

AMY, your kitty is absolutely right!  We do all need a different perspective now and then!  I don't think I can stand on my head any more but I used to be able to do that right out in the middle of the room and not so long ago.  My Dad challenged all of us to learn how to do that and his challenge was by demonstration.  He was well into his 70s and could still do it and I accepted the challenge.  I was probably at least 70 and could still do it.  I have one daughter who accepted the challenge, too.  I wonder if she's tried lately?  I wonder if I'm too old to try?  I suppose I am!  If I were to ask that question of daughter Cathy, she'd get a horrified look on her face and make me promise NOT to try!

I guess I got a little wordy this morning.  One more note...my BP is down this morning.  I hope it stays down!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And, PLEASE, share it with us.  We're a nosy bunch!

Well, your kitty did the trick, Amy, I looked at things upside down & put the bit between my teeth & told that doctor's office that "I'm walking!"  Got an auto call from the pharmacy that my pills were once again ready to be picked up so called a human back & asked what pills??? Seems the doctor's office decided being allergic was not reason to listen to me, so ordered them again. Last straw. I got all kinds of excuses from the lady on the line at doctor's office, even asked if I'd like the doctor to call me, but I explained "too late"...

So I called Blue Cross & Medicare to ask what my position was, whether they would pay for me to get the surgery from another doctor even though this one ran so many tests & would be sending them bills. They do pay for another opinion, even when I explained that I went to the surgeon's office "for a consultation" and not prepared for tests, felt intimidated right down the line as they measured, etc. and got me ready for surgery! What happened to "consultation/ a meeting in which people or groups have a discussion before decisions are made"??? I explained that I didn't refuse, felt whipped, beaten, bullied, threatened, overwhelmed, defeated, afraid, out of control, I was ready to give up except so many others in the same boat, afraid what would happen with  insurance.

By now we have now battled over one prescription since Feb.7, I am a basket case. Had to change shirts twice today between calls, because the under arms had dripped to my waist! Now I know I am not alone in this type treatment and can now understand why my husband would not go back when his eye was botched & only saw a blur until he died... so I declared war on being treated like cattle going to slaughter.

Blue Cross lady was so nice & after listening to my story assured me that they would pay again when I was ready to find another doctor. She connected me with Medicare & another understanding lady that said they would certainly pay for a 2nd opinion. I did not have to make a formal complaint but insurance did say they will make note of treatment of this doctor.

My nerves are slowly settling down, I do not like to do battle but told them without any hesitation that, "I was willing to take this to the public" if they had a problem with my walking. I can't imagine how many little old ladies & men might come out of the woodwork if they knew someone was willing to fight for OUR rights! I am drained, daughter has changed her flight plans & I have some eye drops that are paid for out of pocket, that I hope the next doctor will agree to. So that's been my day.

Jane, glad your BP is down. I took the 2nd dose of the script my cardio dr sent, actually cut the pill in half because big warning on bottle "May cause dizziness.. wait to drive". Lady at the grocery store told me about a place that sells "natural" means for health issues, I will go there tomorrow. Also called the optometrist office & she wasn't in today, but they told me she did write a script for glasses "as my eyes were that day", in case I didn't opt for surgery. So I will have some new glasses made that hopefully will get me through the summer and worry about this next fall. Haha, I put off the valve surgery, the knee surgery and now cataract surgery, one of these days it will all catch up with me! Not too sure I want to live to 120 at this rate!

Cats are waiting to walk down to the river so will shut up. ONWARD! Hope y'all approve of my taking up the banner for Seniors Everywhere!

SHIRLEY, I sent you an email.  I hope it helps you out.

I've had a busy day.  Took Mickie for 3 walks, did an errand, ground up the chicken for dog food, made chicken noodle soup and a side dish of chicken salad for my lunch, fed two doggies, entertained Frankie, washed towels, folded them and put them away, vacuumed the flooded spot 5 times (it still looks dirty) and did my usual crossword and word puzzles.  Whew!  At least I didn't have to shovel snow! It was actually up in the mid-forties today!  I heard geese on the nearby pond.  I think they're a little mixed up.  I think it's early for them.

Now I'm going to run the dishwasher and get my jammies on.  Might go to bed a bit early tonight.  We shall see.  I hope you all had a great day!

well I am in at a reasonable time tonight to bid you all good Night and sweet dreams.  JaneS I was reading before Posting and read where you were scolding me. a up date the other day I went Ku medical center and they gave me a through going over. there nurse called me to day and gave me the results. she said what you are doing is just right keep doing it just like you are. she said the numbers are perfect. she rattled off what, but all i reamber was the blood sugar. they told me to take my blood sugar in the morning before i eat.I do that. also they told me while back to if i eat weight at least two hours after eating to take it. I read one time a old Man said happy at my age Is not wetting my pants, I agree. also one time not to Meighen witch President they were interviewing they asked him what brand of underwayer he wore. He said it depends. have a rest of the day the best.

Taking Kyle to appointment this morning then home to work about the house. Have friends dropping in later for a visit.

Shirley, goodness it is your body, you know what is going on and how it reacts to meds. Good for you to get another opinion and just maybe a set of years on the Dr that will listen to you.

Lloyd, good morning. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Good morning everyone, another damp one here and just turned the heat up. I was a happy o woman, at last my favorite CNA is back. It was so good to see her again and she is happy to be backto work at last. She was out for 4 months or more. I hope the one in charge will let her keep the same hours. I will soon be eating better with her here. She likes cooking and what she cooks is good. We just sat and talked yesterday and it felt great to have her back. It will be 3 years since she first came here  in March. She is like a family member by now.

AMY  Some companys are worse than this one. The lady who made the schedules was great but she  had no help and the stress got to
her and her doctor made her take a sick leave, her BP was so high he was worried she would have a stroke. This new one has help and does not know what she is doing. For one thing is if the CNA's had a better  wage they  might last longer. They have to work one day on a week end and I had a new one for a week till she found out she had to work a Saturday. Om Monday she never showed up for work and never called in, she just quit after 5 days.

LLOYD  I would not like any holes drilled in my head either. Just be very careful what you do and how you walk. We want you atound for a lot more years.

JANE  glad you slept good last night. I was sound asleep around10 last night and woke a little after 5 this morning. Gee nothing much happens in my life to talk about. I'm just happy to have my CNA back at last. Great your BP is down.

SHIRLEY  you make me so glad I have had no reaction with any med. Glad you walked out on that pushy surgeon.

LLOYD  most people I know wo are diabetic take a reading first thing in the morning and 2 hours after eating.

Have a great day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 30º here right now and heading for a high of 39 today.  I can take that!  I hope the geese can take it.  I heard them on the pond this morning again.  I really think they have their directions mixed up but at least the pond isn't frozen any more.

YAY GLORIA!  you got your fav gal back!  I sure hope she can stay around.  It's so nice to have someone you who makes you feel comfortable.  That's how I feel when my cleaning dynamo is here.  I like her personally and she does a terrific job.  She like to talk but it doesn't slow her down!

Frankie is going home this morning.  She has to work this afternoon.  We've had a good visit and enjoyed our chicken noodle soup together.  I think she as up during te night and had some more.  There's a clean dish and spoon and a serving spoon on the counter in the kitchen.  She often has "middle of the night snacks"  Her work schedule is very erratic and she just can't seem to settle into a meal routine.  I understand that.  Back when I worked full time at WM I was pretty much the same with meals.

LLOYD, it sounds like your minding your doctors and doing as you should.  Keep that up!  I hope Nancy feels better soon.  I wouldn't want to jump in a camper and travel if I didn't feel well either.

AMY....Goodie, Goodie!  for no snow!  But I bet the snow blower is beginning to feel like a wall flower...no one to dance with!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And come by and share it with your nosy friends!

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep my hair appointment this afternoon.  It is a dreary day and is only going to get more so.  The weather people are saying that we may get snow tomorrow.  Not much and it won't last long but I vote that we don't get any.  However, Mother Nature doesn't pay attention to me.

I saw my doctor on Monday and she was happy with me so I'm happy with me, too.  Things are going well for the present.  I enjoy the good days and endure the not so good days.  That is all that any of us can do, isn't it?

I made Fudge Brownies in the IP yesterday. OMGosh!, that will make any kind of day better.  Chocolate always brightens MY day!  David is very willing to help me eat it, too.  Isn't that kind of him?  ;)

I hope Joy is doing well and that Mary Ann is able to come home where it is always more comfortable.  I'm thinking of everyone who is having worries about whatever and wishing them peace.

Take care, All.

Turned out to be a great day, chill but not bad. Managed to chase, catch and corral dust bunnies then washed all the floors.

Managed to get all the blocks sewn into rows and now need to sew rows together.

Company came and Jessie was so excited..loved getting more pats from someone else. We all had a good laugh when my friend was petting him and up came the hind leg! :yikes: I knew what was happening but our friends didn't and the look on their faces was priceless. When I am sitting on my chair Jesse will come close  and I pet the inside of his leg...hence he lifts it to make sure I rub all his leg.

We have had supper and now ready to just enjoy the evening.

Phyliss, I am with you on the chocolate. Happy to read your Dr is please and yes all one can do is put one foot ahead of the other. Or sit and eat chocolate till the feeling comes back :)

ANOTHER snowy day.....this every other day of snow is wearing many of us down!  I relate it to living in a snow globe!!

We have been active with helping out with our grands this week.  This afternoon I decided to stay home while Bob picked our oldest grandson up from school and drove him 30 minutes to his away basketball game.  The roads we not good, but they made it to and from safe and sound.  We have Oliver Doodle here for a wee' while his parents are out of the country.  Tomorrow Dave returns from his business trip so we are not needed with the children for the rest of the week.

AMY, your Jesse is a funny guy!  Of course he like more pats and rubs!  I loved your kitty wishing is a good Wednesday!

PHYLLIS, nice to read that your doctor was happy with you!  Nice that David is willing to help you eat those special brownies!

GLORIA, good to read the CNA that you like is back.  That is great to read!

JANE, the Canadian Geese have been thick around our home the past few days.  There are so many tracks in the snowy hillsides the6 have all of the neighbors in our community thinking the coyotes and wild cats are taking over!  The Denver Metro area is over run with the geese.  Last year they gathered many of them up in one of the city parks and turned them into food for the homeless......you ca; imagine the outrage tha5 caused.  They are talking about doing it again as they are taking over the parks.

SHIRLEY, I felt so bad for you as I read your post today.  I am proud that you stood up for what you felt is right and it just is not right that you have to speak up for yourself like you have.  Many sadly would not be able to do this for themselves.  Shame on that doctor and his staff.  I hope you are resting well now after that horrible day you had!

Well I best head off to bed......Oliver is sitting here looking at us with eyes that seem to asking if it isn't time?

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

Nothing planned ,..shh no appointments either!! Just going to take the day as it comes. Would like to finish off the skateboard quilt sometime today.

Jenny, sounds like Oliver is telling you it is bedtime.  So far no lakes for geese to land in here....everything has ice on it. Will be nice to hear the echoing call of the loons when they get back.

Gloria, when we were getting PSW's and VON for our friend there were some I wouldn't let back into the house. I would phone to head office tell then not to send and it seemed to go in one ear and out the other but soon enough they did learn. One VON didn't want to clean his PICC line and when all was said and done she did before she got out the door. I really hate the fact that some seniors have no one to stick up for them and have to put up with what is sent. If it wasn't for the client they would not have a pay check!

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but definitely not "attem"!  And I'm not sure if I'll get attem at all today.  I was in bed for more than an hour last night and my eyes were still wide open.  So I gave up, got up and took a Melatonin and then played a couple of games on the computer until I felt sleepy.  Then I went back to bed and slept off and on for the rest of the night.  I still feel tired. Oh well!  Maybe tonight or maybe even this afternoon!

I made a pretty good supper last night....Pork chops, potatoes, onions and carrots all done in a skillet on top of the stove.  I only did half a recipe and I have enough for 3 more meals!

I have one errand to do outside home today and it shouldn't take very long.  Sometime soon, I have to get a haircut!  I'm beginning to look like a shaggy dog!

And speaking of dogs, I guess I better get off here and go finish making the dog food or Mickie won't be able to have her breakfast when the boinger goes.

JENNY, so nice to see you back!  We missed you!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with your nosy friends!

We are waiting on snow.  1-3 inches will arrive this afternoon, so they say.  I hope they are wrong...as they often are.  But, if they aren't, I'm putting on a pot of Navy Bean Soup this morning and tucking myself in until every last slushy bit is gone.  However long that may take.

I had my hair cut yesterday and met a very nice and well-read woman who recommended a book to me.  I downloaded it from my library so I have something to read while I am tucked in.  I hope I like it.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone. I was surprised when I opened my eyes  and it was light out all ready. 21 now and sun is up  but not shining. Got a good 8 hours sleep and did not feel like turning over and going back to sleep.

JANE  I think my CNA is happy to be back, too. She did lose one of her clients who is now in a nursing home. Instead of co‌ming at 12 she said she will be coming at 11, good, she will get home earlier. I well get something cooked so hopefully I will add a few pounds. She likes to cook.

PHYLLIS  always good news when a doctor is happy with how you are doing. Oh boy if I was there I would help you get rid of those brownies. I have not made them in a couple of years.

AMY  I could eat chocolate every day and always have some in here but not where I can sit here and grab some any time. If it was more that easing my sweet teeth I would eat it all day.

JENNY  I think folks aroung here would be "up in arms" if the wild geese were rounded up and made into food. They do get annoying but they are God's wild creatures.

AMY  love the Thankful Thursday and I must be happy because I am happy to wake every morning, means I am still alive. You are right but some of the ones I have had over the years just want to sit and use their smart phones and that is not just the young ones. I have had a couple of young ones that were great, like one I had last week. She would talk while working and always looking for something else to do.

JANE  know how you feel. I have has nights when I could not sleep at all. No fun being awake for more than 24 hours and it has happened to me a few times. Hope the couch has some ZZZZ's for you later.

PHYLLIS  I have been longing for snow instead of all the rain we have been getting. The dampness from rain gets to my bones and when it snows it does not bother me.

Have a good day.

Well, phoey... lost my post & guess it's a good thing, got too mouthy again. Went to check the weather since we are told we'll have snow tonight... no sign of it on radar & forgot to open another tab so lost all I had typed because I wasn't typing on WordPad!  :tissue:

Gloria, happy your fav CNA is back & will feed you! Nice to have someone on your side, huh?

Had to giggle at your dog, Amy, TomCat is just as bad. He wants to be brushed as long as I am willing to do the job & when I put the brush on the floor, if I hold it down with my toes he will rub his chin over & over from side to side. Such a big baby. Tiger doesn't like being brushed and I've never tried to brush Callie, she is still skittish. Funny that she is the one that follows me outside & just dances around to be petted when out, but acts afraid when I try to hold her in any way.

I am tired tonight, having to do battle wears me down. I called the eye place to ask for my test records & got a run around that "Blue Cross & Medicare would have to fax a request for them". I explained we could take this public and see what they think since it was Medicare that told me to get the records. After another short break the lady said I "would have to come sign for them", I said, "When?" & she came back with "tomorrow?" & I asked, "what time". We agreed on 10:00 "so nobody will be gone to lunch and I don't have to drive in rush hour traffic". I am not geared for these confrontations but it's time someone dug their heels in & quit letting these places that deal with older people realize we still can fight back and sure they don't want to Go Public! I hope this is the last dealing with them. I need to crawl in a hole & lick my wounds.

Bedtime, cats are fed & going to stay in tonight since it might snow. I sleep sounder knowing they are okay.  I did bake salmon today & think I already mentioned all the kinds of herbs & spices I used... if not I will make the list again tomorrow. Came out as good as last time & I froze 5 packages again. It really does taste better when warmed up in a little skillet with a tad of REAL butter to kind of brown it. Yum... This time I had a little larger, cost $21. for skinless & boneless at Sam's... & will have made 8 large servings. Son & I each  had a big piece, one in the frig for tomorrow & 5 in the freezer. (I also made his Manwich, he hinted strongly that he hadn't had any for a long time so if I really wanted to fix it.... <smile>  Sweet dreams to all.  Shirley  Mary Ann, hope you are tucked in for the night, I think you go home tomorrow?  & Joy, hope the day was good for you. Feel so alone no matter how many people are in & out of your room. Hugs.

Phyllis, you are sounding better today, chocolate is a cure all, isn't it?

Well, the phone rang & I didn't have this ready to post & memory being what it is lately, I went off to bed with everything "waiting".  We did get snow overnight, radio telling how many wrecks & to stay off elevations since even though treated, are slick & causing rush hour mess. At least I can get where I need to go on main streets so I will just leave earlier than planned. Tom & Callie went out & stopped just out the door & staring back to see if that door will open again FAST! Wishing all a Thuper Thursday... maybe that was Terrific Thursday, Callie?

Haha, wasn't thinking about how many posts would be waiting after this all night delay posting mine! I have cats staring in the door so will post before I get side tracked & forget again. Love you all...

Best wishes, Lloyd, around here they put my 2 stents in & I was back out same day. I had a reaction with the one med put in while doing the heart cath but the only problem. My son stayed in the waiting room the whole day so I felt really bad for him but sure glad to get out of there. Hugs to Nancy, I've been in her shoes with all the procedures Cas had, not only tiring to navigate those hospitals but stressful waiting for the report from the doctors that all went well. Give her an extra hug from me.

Gotta go dress for battle. What was that prayer, something like, "Lord, keep your arm around my shoulders and hand over my mouth"..... will have to look that up.  :2funny:

Well, in spite of snow & making a wrong turn on the way to the doctor's office, got there exactly at time set and was told "papers not ready because the doctor has to sign and won't be in until afternoon." I took a deep breath & said, "this isn't working well, someone could have called me". She said they were checking to find another doctor to sign the release so would I take a seat?"  I sat for what seemed hours but only 15-20 minutes, couldn't remember if I locked my car so got up & headed for the door. Just as I reached the door I head my name called. They must have thought I was leaving mad & a miracle happened, that paper was ready for me. Seriously, I am wondering if the women in that place have attitude as well as the doctor, like to see how far they can push. It was one page, I bit my tongue from saying that "I'll send a copy to Medicare & Blue Cross"... I don't know that I will ever need to do that, but have what both insurances paid for!

Stopped by the optometrist office to see if that doctor has changed the distance for the bifocal part to arm's length (to see speedometer) instead of reading distance, she had. I paid & was told they should be here 7-10 days. Has been a long spell of first the knee, then head & neck pain that led to eyes checked in case they were causing the head pain. Head pain is better, knee works & long way from doing surgery & if these new glasses work, I may put off cataract surgery until after facing that valve replacement. Patch up one place & another crunches! And to think I am one of the healthiest old people I know!!!

The sun is shining, snow melting off the driveway & I may get out later to clear off a little better, do need to go to the store, forgot on my way home.  ::)  It says 25° & feels like 14°, so not really that warm. Supposed to get very cold tonight so what the sun melts today will be hard ice in the morning. Have a great rest of the day!

Sun is shinning today and no snow headed in until Saturday late Night......it sure is BRIGHT with all the sparkly snow out there!

JANE, sorry it took you so long to fall asleep last night!  That is so annoying!  I am blessed in that for the most part I fall asleep awhile after I retire and most of the time I can get back to sleep in not too long of a time if I get up in the night!  I have served my time at being awake for hours, and I sure do not like it!  I hope you have had a little siesta already today!

Holding good thoughts and saying prayers for you, LLOYD.  I do hope you will do well and can ge5 home soon!

3 of my kiddos are flying all over the place today, so I am keeping an eye on the flights and asking our Dear Lord to keep his loving arms around them🙏🙏

Yes, AMY, Oliver was ready to head to bed.  He moved around quite a bit but HE made sure he was comfy!  Smokey Cat did not come to bed and join us, I guess he is a bit bent out of shape that he is having to share me with the Doodle Dog😍😍.

GLORIA, , oh believe me the round up of the geese was a huge uproar, but in all honesty they have tried many things to keep them under control and it has not worked.  They (of course) make huge messes on the sidewalks and they even are so braze; they attack people, so it is a BIG problem.  So happy your CNA is coming to you earlier and I do hope you ca; enjoy some home cooked meals that will put some meat on your weary bones🥰🥰

Oh goodness, SHIRLEY!  What all you have been having to deal with..... I almost chokes on my breath when you said they told you to COME BACK this afternoon!  They are darn lucky you did not jump over the counter and take that office person OUT.  So happy in worked out in the long run👍👍👍

PHYLLIS, I love Navy beans......I hope you enjoy them and believe me I wish I could pop in and share them with you and David❣️

You ALL enjoy the rest of your day!  YES, AMY, it is a THANKFUL THURSDAY......we all MUST look on the bright side!  Thank you🥰

Jenny

Shirley, this applies to all of us and thought I would share...

An ode to growing old ... by Martha Mitchem Graham ... 1986

"I AM FINE", OR I'M AWFULLY WELL FOR THE SHAPE I'M IN

Oh, what little white lies we often tell
when folks ask us if we're feeling well.

"I am fine", is what we usually say --
but if we told 'em the truth, they'd surely turn away!

The truth is that arthritis has all but crippled both of my knees,
and when I breathe, you can hear me wheeze.

My glasses fit, and my hearing is fine --
but, oh Lord, how I do miss my mind!

So maybe the fine print escapes me unless it's a real clear day;
and, truthfully, I probably don't catch every word that you say --

I'm overweight and looks like I'll never be thin --
you see, my appetite seems to always win!

I have all those bulges in the wrong place --
and just lots of wrinkles on my face.

At night, it's not me but my teeth that get taken out --
and those sags and bags I'm not even going to think about!

My pulse is weak, and my blood is getting thin --
why, it's just terrible the shape I'm really in!

But, when folks ask me how I'm feeling,
if I don't want to set their heads a reelin' --

"I am fine", I'll say with a grin --
or, "I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.

Now the moral of this tale I've just told
is for those of us who are growing old ...

If you want to keep each and every dear friend,
don't ever, ever tell 'em the shape you're really in !!

The blessings of getting older...I do believe God made us forgetful so we would get more exercise and I know my brain will never save my feet . I write a note to take to the store and leave it at home!!

Another day with nothing on the agenda. Hope to finish up the quilt today is about it and start another:)

Weather is warming up some and I hope it stays that was but know with March we can get just about anything and usually nasty.

Better get a pot of soup started.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 18º out there and for this area, that's COLD!  Mickie's had her outing and her pill and we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.  I have my first cup of coffee and it's actually beginning to light up outside.  We're supposed to have a sunny day today.  When the sun shines, it doesn't seem as cold out.

I never did my errand yesterday but I did make bread pudding.  It was really good but the next time I think I'll cut the amount of bread and have more pudding.  That's the way my grandmother always made it and I like it that way.

I had another night of light sleep.  I even went to bed early and I took a Melatonin before I went.  I slept soundly for 2 1/2 hours and then fitfully the rest of he night.  I feel like going back to bed but I can't do that today.  And I also feel like the days I've been given are wasted when I sleep them away!  I know this problem isn't as bad as some of you are facing but it's mine and I have to face it.

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And ALWAYS share it with your nosy friends in SS!

morning everyone, 14 this morning and feels like 7 but that is outside where I am not going today. I know I moved faster than normal when I got out of bed. Had a good 2 hours yesterday with my CNA. I have been easy with her knowing she will tire fast after being out of work so long. I did get my back massage as only she can do it, just enough pressure on the places that always hurt. Had a lot of laughs, too.

SHIRLEY  good for you sticking up for yourself. Took me 10 years before getting rid of a doctor that did nothing when I kept telling him my back hurt. I almost yelled at him before he listened and sent me for an MRI and discovered the arthritis. Another 10 years for a doctor who said he would look into it. Now I see an NP and she has done more  for me than 2 doctors in 20 years.

LLOYD  we always behave, it is you that doesn't. You are always doing too many dangerous things and end up in the hospital. Hugs and prayers for you and Nancy.

SHIRLEY  I am still waiting for those "Golden Years" to get here. We retire and our good health retired, too. Not fair to us at all.

JENNY  you have 3 flying and my oldest son and DIL are on the Atlantic enjoying their yearly cruise.

AMY  love what you posted. I always say I am fine when anyone asks, no one really wants to know so why tell them of all the aches and pains? I remember Fridays when I was working espedially the one before vacation. That was about the only time I was a clock watcher.

JANE  sorry for the lack of sleep you are having. I know how that feels because I have had nights like that. I had another 8 hours last night and  that is 2 nights in a row. Been years since I have had that.
Guess I have told you all the news I had.

Have a good day.

"The north wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will the robin do then, poor thing?
He'll sit in a barn,
And keep himself warm,
And hide his head under his wing, poor thing!"

And the north wind did blow...and still is.  And we did have snow.  It is beautiful to look at from inside the warm house but it is cold, cold, COLD! outside my window this morning.

The hot bean soup was perfect for dinner last night with enough left over to warm the tummy today along with some added corn bread....maybe.

Take care, All.

Good freezing morning here
on the rocky coast of Maine.

Today should be the last day
that we are down in the 20's
and tomorrow is looking warmer,
while the rest of the week
will be in the 30's and 40's...
a welcome warmer change coming.

I prefer  weekdays over weekends,
soI can't get excited about Friday
being the end of the week.

I also like Mondays.

Funny how life has change in
the last few years...  I also
now sleep later in the AM.
Getting up between 9 and  10 AM,
instead of between 6 - 7 AM.

I need to stop watching news on tv
as I am getting so depressed that
it is not good for me.

So it is time for me to do
something about it,  for my
own better mental health.

I try but I keep getting drawn
back into paying attention to
what is happening to our country.
Very, very, sad, IMHO.

Have a good day,  everyone.

Phyllis, I do love my beans. I fixed a pot full with ham shanks & have only 1 serving left. Love cornbread with it, do you make the white or yellow?  I had never tasted the white.. fried in a cast iron skillet.. until first time we visited Cas' mother. My mother used the "Jiffy" box yellow that was kind of sweet. We didn't have it often. I learned to make Cas' kind & always brought at least one bag of the mix back to MO or KS with me. Cas loved the bottom crunchy part & would eat anything left over.

Gloria, I really did not put a name to these aches & pains before 2 doctors say I have SEVERE arthritis, but am understanding the meaning now. This morning my good knee hurt worse than the bad one so I gave both a good rub down with Ponds cream & then happened to think it would have been a good time to rub in that cream, hum, mind just went blank, like you got. (Edit: Hempvana) I think I know what brought it on, wearing some soft UGGs for 2 days because of snow... shoes makes a big difference. Anyway, being told "it isn't going to get better" puts a whole new look at it!

Jane, I've gotten into a terrible habit of getting up whenever & have breakfast & back to bed, but it does wreck the day for getting things done. Remember, though, you are retired & can do whatever you like as long as meal time is on schedule for the pup!  ;) Now who is boss?

Amy, love the kitten & saying. Will offer one tip, if you get a phone call that goes on & on, all you have to do is start talking about your aches & pains, they will hang up in a hurry!  :2funny: I brought in a short branch of forsythia last week, to force bloom. Wasn't sure if too early, my mother would get the urge every spring, to hurry up something. This morning I see the first bud/blossom changing to yellow. Snow on the ground, temp of 15 with feels like 5... so spring has not sprung yet at 8:45 am.

Jenny, like you, I have kids in the air all the time & never draw a deep breath until they are back on the ground.... and now it is the worry about the virus. My daughter said she didn't see anyone with masks on when she headed to Seattle this week, but this old worrier (new word?) does think about the dangers. For some reason Tiger has started sleeping someplace else, it started when Tom got to my bed first & she won't share (except in the RV). They sure rule this house! Be nice if they could be trained to help, like Amy's dog!

Thanks to all for letting me rant about being bullied. I am so relieved you wouldn't believe.

Sandy, I quit watching news because, as my mother used to say, "it gave me a heavy heart". Since I can't change what goes on, only stand up to what I can in my little world, it helps my BP, at least not blow! Don't let the world get you down, stick to what makes you happy & content. I just sent a link to the walker like we have, to my 94 year old brother. He is upset because he is short winded & can't walk like he used to. So I got on his back about being glad he can do what he can & not upset at what he can't do anymore. He doesn't have many friends his age left so know it is scary. Looking at our walkers, they really are neat!

Every time I go out
with my walker,  people stop me and
want to know all about it.

I feel so safe with it.   And for me safety
is what it is all about.

I have a neat little walker, just like the one in the Rehab.  I asked about a Rollator and they said I did not neeed a Rollator.  I'd tell you the name but I'd have to get up to see it.  It is nice and shiny and brand new.

I don't watch the news any more, myself, and feel pretty good about things. News around here is a grim as it is everywhere, maybe except Washington, and I don't miss a thing that they may offer.

Phyllis, I like the north wind poem you posted.  I sit at the south side of my building but my north window is a slider and presents a lot of glass. I sit in the living room very seldom.  Even so some winds do better than others from the north.  The windows are not proof from cold.

Good Morning,

I've been reading posts but it's been a busy week and I'm just now able to have a day when I can do what I want when I want to do it.

Pretty much "covered the town" doing errands last Monday and Tuesday.  Book Club met on Wednesday and yesterday morning, I had an appointment with the Audiologist followed by one with the Tax Accountant.

Audiologist cleared wax from ears and hearing aides and then put me on a list so the office will call me every three months to remind me I need to do that again.  (I need all the help I can get!!!!)

My church has a memorial wall of small crosses for deceased members.  A friend who was very active in church activities and instigated the bridge club passed away a week or so ago.  The bridge club decided to contribute a cross in her memory so 3 of us met yesterday afternoon to find one.  Now we'll have it mounted on a plaque and hope to have it ready by Easter.

Shirley,  true southern cornbread has NO sugar in it!  My mil would put "some" self-rising cornmeal in a bowl, add an egg and turn on the hot water.  Then she'd stir as she passed the bowl in and out of the hot water until it "looked right" and bake in a well greased and heated cornbread stick pan that probably belonged to her mother.  Melt-in-your-mouth delicious!!!
I used to tease the cook at the school where I taught in Leadville when we had cornbread by telling her she'd made cake.  She would always sass back.  ;D

A good friend who is 84 (like me) has just been told by her family doctor that she has Severe Arthritis and to stop running around to expensive specialists trying to find a cure. She's accepted his advice but is grumbling about it.

I have two walkers.  One is a rollator with a seat and the other is smaller and a lighter weight that folds up like an umbrella.  I keep that one in the car because I can get it out by myself.  I use the other one at home - great for taking things from one place to another - but will take it if I think I'll need to sit.

As I remember, I mentioned getting one to my doctor at an annual physical and he wrote a "prescription" (more like a recommendation) that I took to a store that sells health aide devices.  They took care of sending the paperwork in to Medicare and insurance, which paid...at least most of the cost (don't remember if it paid all).

That store is also where I first saw a "Squatty Potty". Anyone ever seen one of those?  Who knew there was a better way to sit and... well, you know  ::) ?

I can see three daffodils in bloom.  However, the bird bath had a thick coat of ice this morning and they look pretty droopy.  Hope the sunshine today will perk them up.

I'm so sorry to read about various health issues of Friends and family members of Friends. Sending Hugs and Good Thoughts for each.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day  ("Frabulous Friday" to follow Shirley's "Thuper Thursday"?  :D .

Callie, my MIL would do the same, dump the cornmeal into a bowl, I call it a mix because all she added was an egg and buttermilk. It was MY mother that made the sweet kind, guess we weren't "Southern" enough. I learned to like the non-sweet but it did have a lot more grease (I used Wesson corn oil) to fry than Mothers did to bake. My MIL would have the skillet bubbling hot before putting the mix in & then into a very hot oven. That's how it got the crunchy top when turned over onto a plate. She would fry potatoes in so much grease she would put a lid on that skillet & drain the grease off. Served with fresh coleslaw & home canned or frozen green beans. Usually she would have chicken fried as well and by the time we got back to MO, we had "zits" all over our faces! She was a wonderful cook, but not exactly "heart healthy" foods. My mother was also a wonderful cook but was one that quoted "You Are What You Eat" by Adele Davis, and since Dad was a beef & potatoes man, we ate a lot of beef. Dad also loved pork steaks, which Mom would broil. Dad loved the fat on pork but not too crispy. Dad lived to 95 so didn't bother him. Mom's later years and after she died, I'd fix a big pot roast with potatoes & carrots, pick up a loaf of fresh Dutch bread & take to them. Mom always had homemade applesauce to go with the meal. I was no cook compared with the rest of them, including my sister, but did learn to fix some of their favorites.

I can't find a good pot roast around here, keep telling the butcher "Let's go out into the Flint Hills and rustle up some beef"... but he won't take me up on it. ::) You remember those miles of cattle on the Flint Hills, Phyllis? Maybe you didn't travel through them as often as I did, but I love the peaceful sight.

Got to get busy, stalled all morning about doing laundry. Have sheets for 2 queen beds plus a couple full loads of towels, as well as "personal" stuff. I planned to use a lot of water this month of Feb because the city bases water usage on Feb & if you go over during the summer you pay higher prices. Dirty trick, hard to wash a car or water flowers in Feb! But them's the rules. I just got the water bill & too late to pad it. Bummer!

Gloria, it is so good to feel your happiness with the return of your CNA. "Three cheers for our side!"

When I needed the rollator, walker or whatever, I needed it fast to move at all. It was a 2 day wait with Amazon Prime after getting suggestions in here. I did order the potty "lift" but did not use it because these "designer" fixtures in my 3 bathrooms aren't normal shape, & I wasn't about to spend to have them replaced because that would mean new carpet, & all the other problems that pop up when remodeling.

I am so relieved to not face surgery done by a doctor I didn't trust, I feel like this is a whole new life. Hope Lloyd's procedure is over and all's well, heart cath is always a danger at best.

Shirley, I hadn't thought of doing that but now you have planted the idea next time a scammer calls he/she will get it.  I have had them hang up on me before when I have mixed their words but this is even better, will make me feel better too.

My desk...well there is a desk and now you can see it and  actually find things. With downloading recipes and patterns it soon became cluttered. Now it is not!

Sandy, we heard on the news last night that a young boy 13 yr.s old robbed a bank along with a 15 and 16 yr old but my gosh 13..

Callie, I make Johnny cake is that the same as cornbread?

I had better get going..

Shirley, my Dad loved bread fried in bacon grease nice and crispy....I did too. Or the fat off a pork roast but it had to have the fat fried out of it....does that make sense?

All this talk about food makes me hungry.  I don't remember anything special my mother made in the meat line, but she made delicious lemon pies and tarts.  I only had her for 17 years.  After she died, Dad took over and he was a "by guess and by gosh" cook.  Sunday dinner was always chicken or roast with potatoes and veggies and we could always invite anyone to eat with us because there was more then.  We'd have the meat sliced the next day and we'd have stew the next day. I don't remember Thursdays but Fridays were steak night.  Dad's meals were tastier because he experimented.  Tom tries to do that, but he is not a cook.  He's going to have to learn - for his sake as well as mine.  I bought an Instant Pot and he does a great job with a pot roast and veggies.

I had an evaluation for home care for 60 days this afternoon.  Tom has bought wire shelves for against the walls and soon we may look halfways decent around here.  I
pictured wooden cabinets but he had already bought the wire shelves.  And with my money!
Onward and upward.  All in the name of therapy.

Lloyd, great that you are home and nice to hear breathing is much easier for you. Yes, Lasix is a stinker but it keeps your fluid out instead of around your heart! The cardiologist has Kyle weighing himself to make sure no rapid weight gain ,if soo he is to take an extra Lasix. Take it easy please..

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm trying not to doze during the day today so maybe I can sleep better in bed tonight.  But I'm getting really sleepy.  Might have to go to bed early.

LLOYD and MARY ANN welcome home to both of you!  Now lets try to keep it that way!

Today was a beautiful, sunshiny day and Mickie and I had 3 nice walks.  It was cold but not windy so it didn't feel so cold  I had a nice long chat with my Texas daughter on the phone and we settled some of the world's problems but we also agreed that one of the things that hurts the most is when one of your children or grandchildren hurt and not only are you too far away for hugs but you really don't know what to say to bring comfort.  Some things we just can't help with.  And that makes us hurt!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, well looks like my 8 hour nights did not last long. Here it is now 2:30 am  and I am sitting here with my first cup of coffee and wide awake. 26 - almost twice as warm as yesterday.

PHYLLIS  so the snow made it there and you felt poetic? It's cold outside my window but  no snow DARN IT. Have no idea what direction doth blow, seems pretty calm.

SHIRLEY  oh wow this if the first time you mentioned severe arthritis. It really is not nice and for you who is always so active like you must drive  you bonkers. I do ‪like the Hempvana, it works great on my back. The left side of my back is worse but yesterday the right side was almost as bad. My CNA gave me a good back massage with the Hempvana and it sure helped, even this morning it is not as bad as usual. I went online for it and for an extra $10. you get 2 jars of it. I gave one  to my grandson who has back problems and ordered 2 more and gave to my son for his shoulders. Don't need much of it. I have been using the first jar for over 5 months.

MARY ANN  my windows face north west and when I pull the shades up in the morning I can feel the cold air.  I have sheer curtains in the windows and even those keep some of the cold behind them.

CALLIE  about 8 years ago I sent for a rollator and it helped me. When I first got the health insurance I have they ordered a new one but use the old one in here- has only 1 brake that works and the new one has 2 good brakes so use it when I go out anywhere. Glad I have it because I use the seat often. Is today a Super Saturday? My daughter has a cast iron pan for cornbread. She makes it often. I never had hers but I do like the Jiffy mix.

SHIRLEY  It is great having Y back again. When she came Tuesday it was big hugs time. After being out for almost 5 months she was tired shen she got home and had a nap. Her husband would wake her when he got home about 2 hours later. One thing she said is how her back hurt with the disks being out of line she can imagine how I feel at times.  We sure talked and laughed a lot the 4 days she was here.

LLOYD  so glad you are home and make sure you do what the doctors tell you to do. I know when I had capal tunnel on my right hand I learned to type with just my left hand. Took time but I did it and you can too.

Have a good day.

Hey, Gloria, I also woke up at 2:30 but has taken over an hour to get to the computer. I will fix me an egg, toast & coffee... maybe some bacon & go back to sleep.  It is bitter cold, or I thought it was because the furnace doesn't shut off, but actual temp is 33°  but feels like 25°. Tom wanted out, Callie is snoring on the couch & Tiger is somewhere in the basement still sleeping. She doesn't think "FOOD" every time she hears me rattling around in the kitchen. Tom would eat all day long (and does) the dry food or whatever I offer.

Since I didn't realize my aches & pains were severe arthritis, I ignored them. To be honest, I don't think mine is as severe as a lot of people, I'm able to move these legs pretty much like before the blow out of the knee and neck pain not nearly as bad as when I had to hold my heat to let it go down on the bed. "Tolerable", as an old friend used to say. I may have to fight the world that isn't fair, but I don't fight my body. If it wants to get up at 2:00 or 3:00 am, we will get up & eat & go back to bed. My best friend here in town, goes to bed at 7:00 pm because she wakes up at 4:00... gets up & stays up. She does get a lot done those early hours but burns out by noon. She says she doesn't nap, but chills out the rest of the day. I'd better get off here & eat so I can go back to sleep. This is another Sat! I think the weeks are shrinking, doesn't seem like 8 days since the last Saturday!

Glad you are home, Lloyd, and hope you feel better. I was giving my brother a lecture about keeping his arm & leg muscles strong. He is complaining about being short winded, but his worst problem is that he works in his yard all summer & keeps strong but doesn't get much exercise all winter. They go to Florida right after Christmas & stay a couple months in a place his son keeps all year, and only putters around keeping the place clean with his wife. They get out a lot but do think his body misses the work, so when he wants to walk a mile like he used to, he is winded. At 94 he is in better shape than most 70 year olds. Take care, no falls.

I know what I wanted to mention.... about the "designer" commodes in this house, that was tongue in cheek. They are different & were special in their day, but this house was built in the mid '60s & pretty sure they are original, we've been here 31 years & not replaced them. I have no desire to remodel anymore.

And a very Super Saturday to all that show up this morning!

Good morning everyone..

Looking to be a great day out there!! Just think 14 more day and we turn the clocks ahead!!!
Yesterday proved to be interesting. We had sink problems and needed a plumber. I have watched this young man from when he worked for a company in town spread his wings and go on his own. When I phoned he said he was really busy but would stop in after one job. He did come and his wife too! They remind me of us when we worked..Mom and Pop operation and they work well together. Everything is working now.

Gloria, hope you can cat nap today.. Nice to have your regular girl back. Hope she will be there for you all the time now. We have a rollator plus a wheelchair. Kyle has used both but the wheelchair has been used by friends that needed one. Neighbour just used this last week to take his Mom to the hospital.

Shirley,I hope you can find time for a nap later today.

Better get going.

Enjoy your day everyone

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here but no wind so it doesn't go right through ones body.  I can live with that.  I sure didn't realize we were that close to DST!  I don't think I'm ready for that!

Don't know what's on the agenda for today but I'm not ready to face it.  I had another sleepless night.  Even the Melatonin only gave me about 2 and a half good hours.  I feel wiped out!

And it's almost time for the boinger so I better go see where my phone is.  It might be somewhere I can't hear it and Mickie can't hear it either so she won't tell me it boinging.

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with you nosy friends in SS!

I'm up but that is about all I can claim.  Not a good night last night.  I think I'll probably catch up today.  Or, at least, try to.

Gloria, I used to make corn bread from scratch but use the Jiffy mix now just because it is easier on this old cook.  I always use my small cast iron skillet though.  As it turns out, I didn't make corn bread last night and we didn't have the rest of the bean soup.  I decided to use up the last of the meat loaf.

Amy,  I think Johnnycakes are more like a thick pancake for us and cornbread is leavened with baking powder so it rises to a porous cake/bread like this:  https://www.blessthismessplease.com/the-best-cornbread-recipe

This recipe calls for sugar but I don't like sweet cornbread so I don't use it when I make it from scratch.

I'm glad that both Mary Ann and Lloyd are home.  Hospitals are ok when we need them but home is so much better.

I just might have another cup.  Take care, All.

This morning I took my first shower since coming home and all went well.  I did it the way I always did and I was pleased I could do that.  I did some standing and some sitting.  I think I got all of the soap off.  I know practice will make perfect.

I now am sitting in my computer rooom in my robe drying off and I will get dressed in due time.  When the house evaluators were here, we talked about my getting into the tub as I do not have a walk=in shower. They approved of my method and it worked well.  We also talked about the height of the toilet and it is sometimes good to be short because it is not necessary to get a riser for ours.  My feet do not hit the floor with the risers.  It is rough going from semi-handicap to 3/4 handicap.

My walker has sturdy brakes and I use them; the cat jumps when I release them because they are strong.  I am sure they will ease as time goes by.

It will be a nice day today because the sun is shining.  It is about 35 degrees out and we have no snow, however, I think we have some coming.

Robin's son and a friend are to come today to dismantle the work station which I find I am donating to a thrift shop for sale. I hate to see it go because of storage area but Tom has purchased with my money a set of wire shelves and that will be my new storage.  It probably will hold more than the work station and that will give us more floor space.

All of the above is more than anyone wants to know, but gabby has to tell everything.

Mary Ann

Hello, Everyfriend!  Today was a beautiful day!  The sun shone and the wind was still.  It was in the high 30s and it felt warmer when we were out walking!  I'll take more days like today and then Spring can jump right in!

I've taken my Melatonin first tonight so I (hopefully) don't have to lie there wide awake for the first hour that I'm in bed.

I hope you've all had the best day possible and that you will have a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, yesterday it was sunny all day but not warm enough for me to go out and it was windy, too. When my son made his weekly visit I asked how it was outside and he said -too cold for me.  Do any of you watch Judge Judy? I turned on the TV at the same time I got here at the PC.  She was on and before I turned to local news I got to watching her. Boy she sure  doesn't hold anything back. She calls some people a jerk or dumb or stupid. I wonder if those who are on her show just want their 15 minutes of fame.

SHIRLEY  well I woke a bit  after 5 this morning and it had taken me about an hour to get here. I am having my first mug of coffee as I read and type on Notepad.  Gone ar e the days when I would get up and make  5 lunches and make breakfast  for 5 and get ready for work. I wonder how I did that when these days I move so slow. Lucky I can get my oatmeal made every morning when I finish here but have my 2 mugs of coffee before I think of eating.

AMY  like your Heigh-Ho. Sounds like me in the morning these days but without the cheery Heigh-Ho. There was a wheelchair donated by a tenant whose Mother used it. It was for anyone who needed it for a short time. There was a woman who needed it and kept it for a few months before the witch told her to bring it back because others needed it for doctors visit or something. That was one time the witch did something good. I did lay on the couch yesterday watching TV and woke 2 hours later. Slept good last night, too.

JANE  you use your cellphone for a timer?  I would never think of that. I would use my timer for the oven. Wish I had good news to share in here but it is the same old boring stuff from me.

PHYLLIS I have only used the Jiffy cornbread, never tried from scratch.  I know my daughter does and has a cast iron that has the shapes of an ear of corn. An elderly friend gave it to her.

JANE  no ideas from me to help Lloyd. When I cannot get in I just do something else  and try again a few hours later. Most times it is when the site is down.

MARY ANN  when I go to my son's or grandson's homes I find the toilets are very low. I am used to what my second son calls a bigboy. I had a riser on the one at my son's house when I lived there. I am short, too, but have trouble getting UP.

LLOYD  glad you made it in this morning. Make sure you follow the doctors orders and do as he said. We want you around for a lot more years and I am sure Nancy does, too. Don't go pushing and playing with your machinery.

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone..

Going to be a nice day here then snow tomorrow..
Managed to get the quilt done yesterday so it is just binding that needs to be done then start another.

Lloyd, good to see you and hope you are feeling much better. Sent you an email.

Jane, I am so wanting Spring..I know there is a lot of work (wood piling)ahead in Spring but hope to get it done before the bugs decide to visit.

Mary Ann, sounds as though things are progressing for you. We don't have a tub just a walk in shower that has a built in seat. With Kyle's RA getting in and out of the tub was difficult so the shower unit was put in. When we had our friend here he also had a bath chair. One does what they have to do to get along.

Joy, hope you are coming along better too.

Phyliss, hope you caught up on lost sleep. I printed off the recipe to try later. Thank you.

Gloria ,good morning you tippy toed in on me :)

Shirley, where are youuuuuu???

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

I got up about the same time, Gloria, had my breakfast & fed cats. Tom is out exploring. Cas used to laugh about old LaurenKat had to "run her traps" every morning early. She was not as afraid of being seen outside as Tom is. Neighbors used to tell me they would see "that bob tailed little gray cat cutting through their yards". They all knew we had her fixed & she was well fed, but she still hunted & brought breakfast back for Cas. YUCK!

We were supposed to have rain this morning but still down in Callie territory. It is in the 40s so not sure what to expect, feels like a nippy spring morning. Soon we will be into tornado season... the year rolls around so fast.

Did you all hear people long ago talk about "how fast the time goes the older you get"?  I have a feeling that "the older I get the slower I get" so that's where it stands for me!

I have a few bites of oatnut bread with Welch's grape jam to finish. Had to reheat my cup/mug of coffee & sat down to the laptop here on the table. My Fitbit & laptop & iPad do not agree how much sleep I got last night, guess I'll get a nap in later today. Right now I'd better get a move on.

Lloyd, I never did feel any different after the bypasses, stents or valve replaced, same short winded. Decided I will just slow down & catch my breath until I can't and then let them replace that valve again. Like Scarlett, I don't want to think about it today! You take care. Soon it will be warm enough to head to MO to Long Shoal campground. That can't be too far from where you live. It is on highway 7 between Clinton & Warsaw and can see cars going by on 7 from the campground. I really enjoy just plugging in power & watching DVDs with the cats. We eat & sleep, I don't get out & walk a whole lot the last couple years, but can see the birds & squirrels from my windows. I'll probably not go until after our trip to Colorado since I have to wait for new glasses & if this pair works I will get a pair of prescription sunglasses, my eyes can't take the bright sun. Will let you know when I get to go so maybe you & Nancy will come camp near & we can visit. I like having electric hook ups to not need to run the generator. The Corp of Engineer campground are so nice & spread apart compared with commercial campgrounds. I try to go there in middle of the week because they fill up on week ends & boaters are up early speeding around the lake. I've tried a few other campgrounds, even the state park, but Long Shoal is my favorite. The same camp host has been there for years, think he was the one that sold me my Golden Age Passport when I turned 65.

Jane, hope you get the sleep working for you. I know you aren't used to being able to nap during the day, but I can't keep going on just a few hours sleep like when younger.

Mary Ann, do hope Tom gets to feeling better fast, he may have to take time off to give his body a chance to recover completely. Glad you are back with Kendrick, bet he is more "lovey" than before. My Tom is kind of bashful about wanting to be petted, he purrs so loud when happy you can feel his whole body quivering.

Haha... there you are, Amy! I was kinda concerned that Gloria & I have been getting up earlier than you!  And this morning Lloyd beat us posting!

Will catch up with everyone later, better get dressed!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better last night than I have in a month of Sundays!  I took the melatonin a half hour before going to bed as the bottle suggests and when I went to bed, I closed my eyes and went to sleep.  I did wake up in about 2 hours or so to answer Nature's call but I went right back to sleep and slept pretty well until the alarm went off at 6.

I guess I didn't really need the alarm because the sun is shining and the windows on the car are frozen.  I tried thawing them and they just froze again.  So I opted out of driving to church this morning!  I'll miss it but I'm sure God understands!

All this talk of corn bread has made me crave a piece...and I never liked corn bread!  I wonder why that happens?  I did like something that my grandmother used to make in an iron skillet on her cook stove but I never heard it called corn bread.  I suppose it was, though.

I wonder what I'll get into today?  I guess I should do something productive since I'm no going to church!  I know I have to make dog food but that doesn't take much time or energy!  However...

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with your nosy curious  friends!

Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

I have been on this iPad nearly non stop all weekend.  Granddaughter Kate is at a dance competition and it is streamed online.....not very well though, unfortunately, as it keeps cutting in and out, but I have been glued to the screen trying t9 watch her.  IF she is not dancing then I a: looking at pictures tha5 our youngest son is sharing on their trip and then I a: looking at pictures that a friend is sharing from their world tour on the Queen Mary II.  Currently they were in Perth Western Australia.  My goodness the pictures are amazing.  Some of you remember The Thomas Family who live there?  We have been invited to go to Perth and visit them and I would certainly like to do it as I would love to see Perth!

Anyway, I am just getting in to see how you all are doing?  All this talk about corn bread!  I have not really cared too much about it, but have enjoyed eating some on a couple of occasions.  Funny enough Sam's Club had a box of Krustiez on sale, and I bought a box with 4 packages in there, so I best go use some of it up one day soon....a nice pot of beans sure would go well with it!  Yummmm, I am making myself hungry.

We had a lot of snow over night.....it is really wet so has melted quite a bit already, but we probably got a good 3 inches!  Now bring on the spring flowers!!  Do not think that is going to happen anytime soon......still a lot of winter left for us here😩

Our oldest son and the boys came down from Vail early this morning and have already landed in Boston.  The DIL had to take a different flight as she had a death in the family and had to go to Chicago for that.  I am so sad as we did not even get to see them while they were here......mostly due to our inability to leave due to helping out with the children AND the weather.  Snow every other day did not work out well for a quick drive up the hill.....just does not seem right that they were here tho so close and yet we did not get to see them😩😢

SHIRLEY, boy how I wish we could all gather together at that nice sounding camp ground and all have a nice long visit with each other.  IF I do not get to see you on your next Colorado visit I sure am going to be sad......things just do not seem that easy to plan anymore......and I do not like it one bit!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

Good afternoon everyone. well I have had a good nap today, most likely will mess up my sleep tonight. AMY Nancy said you called yesterday message on answer machine but never left any phone number to return call with. I would love to have your phone number and call you all. and when gets to be better weather in spring or summer. we could head the rv back that way and do a good visit.. I am as I said i am breathing much better than I was before the cleaning and instillation of the stents. Grand daughter and sil, came by for a quick visit. they both said I have better looks in face and eyes. AMY you may have my email address as well so if you would send me your phone number please. I would call you I think for your area I have free long distance. we could have a good visit on the phone no charge. It is cloudy here and supposed to get rain here tonight and tomorrow and maybe next day as well. Hope they miss that. sil. came by and smoothed all the ruts out in our drive way and rock hauler is supposed to come gravel our drive tomorrow or Tuesday. that will be great if he gets it done before the rain hits.

Lloyd, this has been another of those days trying to keep up & would rather be sleeping. Thanks for the offer of a place to stay but I am going to travel to spots I am familiar with, Colorado and Missouri. Lot less stress with these big elephants when you know ahead where to turn! Not sure when I will be ready to travel, but working on it. Glad you are feeling better.

Jenny, I've been watching the Monarch Pass cam and so happy to see snow so it won't be such a fire danger this summer. I have not seen much on the ground around Salida or Buena Vista, their cams are located all around so I check about every day. I understand about life & travel not being "at our choice", with kids & grands. Hope you got to see enough of the dance competition to satisfy.

Jane, this sleep pattern is a bummer, I spend my days trying to catch up. Hope to get to bed early enough tonight to make up for a few nights this week! Have to get off this computer!

Amy, darling kitty. Reminds me that the cute toy #2 son gave the cats for Christmas was totally ignored so I gave it back to him when he mentioned his girlfriend's grandmother had a number of cats... maybe they know how to play! These 3 walked around it for weeks, standing in the middle of the kitchen/family room floor. They checked it out the first day & then acted like it wasn't there at all.

Another week, start of Lent with Ash Wed. already! We had light rain all day so will help green things up. We did not have a hard winter, no ice on the river at all so far. Flood warnings out until tomorrow so "up river" they must have gotten a lot more rain than we did.

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless! Shirley

I'm all ready for bed and Mickie is already there.  I'm waiting for the Melatonin to take effect and I didn't sleep at all during the day today.  So maybe sleep will take over tonight.  When I get up tired in the morning, I get next to nothing done that day.

LLOYD, I'm happy to hear that you're feeling better after your hospital visits.  Keep it up!

SHIRLEY, it has been an easy winter.  I hope that doesn't mean that Spring will be later in its arrival!  I'm definitely ready for lighter clothes and warmer weather!

Now I'm off to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Checking in. Tom was sleeping on my bed & all of a sudden decided to have a snack of the dry food, drink of water, stopped at the litter box & then the pat-pat that means he wanted to go out. No sense arguing with him, so I opened the doors & he stepped out in the rain. I thought he would want right back in but they stayed in all day yesterday & he wanted to stretch his legs. I came into the kitchen & checked the door & he came over the fence to see if it was time for breakfast. Not going to start feeding at 3:00 am (it was 2:30 when he went out.) He is begging to go back out so guess I'll let him have his way & I will go back to bed.

Jane & all having trouble sleeping, hope the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzs surround you & you wake up rested.

Good Morning everyone, well I did sleep better last evening. thanks for all the tips and support. Shirley well parking here would not cost you any thing,we would let you park free at least a week before putting you to work. would enjoy just visiting, we are about 45 minutes time driving to  Clinton. we would rather have your friendship rather than your money. Nancy has coffee on early. or I will make and drink hot chocklet with you.. I love the smell of Coffee. But one sip of it upsets my stomach. Not the caffeine, I used to drink moutindew had a can in my hand all day long. Reining here and 47º this AM. wish we had got rock on drive before the rain. sil had brought his bobcat down and had it smoothed up good. Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but not sure I'm "attem" yet! We're waiting for the boinger after Mickie's pill and then breakfast and then we shall see!

I had some bad news yesterday.  The young man who owns my service station passed away.  He's been in a wheel chair for the past year and we knew it could happen any time but this one hurts worse because I watched him grow up and he's part of my kids generation.  He was about 2 when he tagged along to his father's gas/service station.  It was a family business and his mother was a receptionist/paper person so Bucky and his sister were there a lot.  And when my twins started school, Bucky was in their class.  He was a friend of my son's all through school and they remained so after graduation.  He eventually took over for his father and expanded the business and he will be missed.  He ran and honest, timely service and everyone liked him!

I think the hardest part is that he's part of my kids generation and it's going to be hard to see them go.  I guess I'm older than I thought I was. Please pray for Bucky and his family!

The boinger went off so I better get Mickie her breakfast.

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And come by and share it with all of us!

Jane I am so sorry for the loss of this young man. Hold tight all the wonderful memories you have of him.

We just had company , my friends daughter is now the proud owner of a Bloodhound pup..Winnie. Even though she is only 6 weeks old she growled at Babe and Jesse!! In the end they did become buddies. Just wait till she gets her full size an there will be no holding in arms!

Gloria, hope your day is going to be a great one..

Better go see what I can rustle up for lunch..thumbnail.jpg Winnie.jpg

Good morning everyone, back to waking too late again. At least I did sleep at  last. Thie will be short, have to get dressed after my coffee and then have breakfast before my fav Gal gets here. Yesterday was a real lazy one for me, slept most of the early part away and watched TV the rest of the day. I really am getting bad lately with wanting to do anything.

Well have to get  moving, my CNA will be here at noon and just about have time to get dressed.

Have a good day.

Monday flew by for me.....seems that is how most of my days go!

Oliver Doodle's mom and dad arrive home safely from their trip and he sure was excited to see them!

Bob picked Grandson Matt up from school and took him to his basketball game, so it has been very quiet around here this afternoon.  I got a couple of loads of laundry done today but that is about it.

SHIRLEY, Michele bought still pictures and videos of Kate's dances so I got to see it all, in spite of the internet. The cams in Colorado today may have only shown a total white out due to the horrible winds and snow we had today in many parts of the state.

JANE, I am sorry to read about Bucky's passing.  What a terrible shock this must have been for you.  I know he was a special guy that helped you out with your car problems and of course a friend to your children.  Prayers for Bucky's family and friends.

AMY, how precious that Winnie is.....thank you for sharing her picture.  I had to smile at her growling at Babe and Jesse!  How cute.

GLORIA, it sure is good to read that you are looking forward to your fav CNA coming!  How nice.

Dinner is over and we are going to settle in our rechargers and watch some TV.

Have a good rest of your evening, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny
Have a good evening.

I've had my pill and turned off all the lights and I'm ready to climb in bed.

Thank you to those who understand about Bucky.  I might be the only person left who calls him "Bucky".  His father was Buck and he was and always will be Bucky to me.  He used to always grin when I called him that to his face!

AMY, the doggie is a cutie and also sounds like she's pretty brave for a pup!

JENNY, nice that you have the videos and pics of Kate to look at.  I bet she makes you proud!

I'm off to bed as soon as the pill begins to take effect.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special Good Morning, AMY!  Have a safe trip to the city and back.

I'm up and  have my first load of laundry in the washer.  Unlike Amy, I'm not planning a trip to the city.  Where I live, it's very "country" and where I'm going it's even more country.  I'm going to one of my favorite places...Fairview Country Store.  And it's in the country even more so than where I live!  In the summer they have lots of fresh produce and plants but year round they have things no one else in the area carries...including the pretzel nuggets that my daughter loves.

Now I have to tend to the laundry while we await the boinger for Mickie's breakfast...mine too!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with all of us!

I seem to be going in circles lately, my AT IT, disappeared, but I'm working on IT.

Jane, so sorry about your young friend, he is the one that keeps the car running, right? But more than that, he is part of those happy memories and so very hard to give up. Sincere sympathy to you and his family.

Amy, how could anyone NOT LOVE that face? I never thought of how cute a bloodhound could be when a pup, but must be where the term "hang dog" look came from. Funny how baby animals can show traits of adults and we love it. One time a neighbor had a huge box & invited me to have a look at what he found whem mowing a field... inside was the tiniest little coyote you ever saw, would have fit in one hand... and it had it's little head in the air giving that "coyote call" you've seen in western movies. Absolutely adorable. I was told they had contacted a place in CA that took in wildlife, sanctuary but probably also had animals used in movies, hoped to send it to them. I had never thought of what a bloodhound would look like as a baby, but that one is a cutie!

Jenny, every time I checked the Monarch Pass cam it was a "white out", until near dark when the road graders had the pass cleared. Always been told to never rush those roads, just wait for a minute and a grader would come along. They do a great job & I would think dangerous one. Glad you got to see the photos of "our" dancer, are you allowed to share online?

Tom & Callie went out, from what the news is saying, this is the high of the day & will have that horrible wind plus rain/snow mix through tomorrow. Tiger will want out later, but she likes to sleep in. All had their breakfast & plenty of dry food if they need a snack before their next meal. I haven't had my breakfast yet, not sure what I want to eat. Have a Terrific Tuesday.... it's out there but gotta find it!  Shirley

Don, it looked like there were a couple of eagles on the nest in Decorah.

I had a strange experience with Kendrick this morning and I did not know what to do.  As a result I did nothing and things seemed to resolve themselves, but I'm not sure of that.  About 5 or 6 in the morning he was at my bedside crying those small  weeping sounds cats make ad he cried for quite a while.  At first he was at the side of my bed, on the floor, and I coaxed him up on the bed.  Eventually he got up on the side of the bed, but still crying like a kitten.  I tried rubbing his side to relieve whatever pain he might  have and he quit crying.  It took a while before I felt free to move go where I could get to the phone to call Tom.  By that time it was 7:30 so both Tom and I got up.  The cat has been fine ever since.

This morning I got wired for sound.  The hospital and  Rehab had mentioned a monitor so I now have a necklace.  I will wear it constantly, even in the shower.  We will have to redo the top of a radio I have but there are things there that are not necessary.  I don't want to lose all of my decorative touches but we will find places for some.

I'm sleepy and I think I'll try for a nap.  On the other hand, I see someone is to behere at 12:30.  I still will lie down now.

Good Tuesday to you, Everyfriend,

Mary Ann,  sounds as if you're getting "all fixed up" at home - although not 100% to your liking.  I suspect Kendrick is a bit confused with all the changes and hope everything settles down for both of you before too long.  Also hoping Tom's health improves.

Patricia, the two eagle eggs on the Oklahoma webcam were attacked by another eagle. One egg was destroyed and the other one was too badly damaged to hatch.  Now the nest is empty and I haven't seen an eagle there in several days.  :(

Jenny,  lots of Facebook pictures of the horrendous snow piling up in Leadville. Sons and childhood neighborhood friends are reminiscing about building tunnels in the front yard and sledding down the alley. I remember seeing #2 son and a friend pulling each other up as they "see-sawed" in snow up to their waists while walking home from school. Glad they have such good memories.  I don't miss it even a little bit!!

I've done my "outs and abouts" for the day and am now in - waiting for Shirley to send her weather down here later today.  Shirley, it would be fine with me if you shooed it in another direction!

I've shredded 5 big grocery sacks full of "file stuff" and have put another stack on the table to stare at me until I Do Something About It.

Wishing Everyfriend a Happy Shrove Tuesday.  Are you having pancakes?  ;)

Mary Ann, my guess is that Kendrick had a bad dream that you were gone again and needed to be reassured. Seriously, animals do have dreams and I expect that is his worst nightmare, that he couldn't find you. One thing to warn you about, he will probably stick like glue and you will have to watch when he gets underfoot. When Tom thinks he has been neglected (that Tiger gets more attention), he will be at my feet & I am having to be very careful not to trip over him. You have become his rock, so take care of yourself now!!!

Callie, we have drizzle & a tad heavier at times, so far no snow. My pool runnith over, should be pumped down but I don't want to call the pool man yet... he charges an arm & leg & will be having him open in a few more weeks. Could be a dumb choice, but dumb is as dumb does....We do need the moisture but Mother Nature could have spread it out a little.  >:(

I am plum-tuckered out. Got that bed put back together & went to the store, rewarded myself with the "Classic Meal Deal", Callie... they do make a great hamburgery & my favorite fries of all fast foods. Mudslide is in the freezer waiting until after my nap. I got 3 min shy of 7 hours of sleep last night so think this must just be a lazy streak. Maybe I can excuse me since I had several nights this past week of 3-4 hours sleep & the old body wants to make up for it.

Joy, I'll tell you what a neighbor told me years ago, that "he wished he & his wife had gone into a retirement place when both were healthy enough to adjust to all the activities and learn how to navigate what was offered"... His wife was in full bed care and he was still mobile enough that he loved it. Only you should decide what YOU want and are willing to do, some people are truly happy being freed up from chores (and I do know some of those people) but also a down side, I'm sure. I'm sorry you are down in the dumps right now. Do you have friends in places they would recommend? My son & wife discovered different places have different meanings for the term "assisted". Her mother was paying for assisted but so much was not included (like handling medications, making sure they showed up for meals, etc)... Seems each service to assist had an added price to pay at that place. Maybe you can get strength back and not have to make that decision right now. Hugs to you, we are all dealing with the unknown as we age so it is good to be able to talk about it in here. Concentrate on getting stronger and any time you feel like screaming, come on in & we'll listen!

Shout Stamp your foot.....your good one and get it off your chest. We will be right along side doing it with you.

The trip to the city was perfect, no deer but pileated woodpecker, wild turkeys  and a crow with nesting material in his beak!! Sure signs of Spring around , then when I was looking out the kitchen window a dove was wanting to get cozy with another dove!! Think  :smitten:  is in the air.

I am going to put my feet up...not sure when the dance will begin tomorrow..

Enjoy your evening everyone..

Hello my friends!  I did accomplish something today.  I stripped the bed right down to the mattress, washed everything and remade the bed.  It's going to feel good to get into a nice clean bed tonight!

And I made the trip to Fairview Country Market and got Cindy's pretzel nuggets.  Now to send them to Texas.  She says Texas doesn't know what a good pretzel is!  So I have to keep her in pretzels.  She orders their favorite potato chips on line.  I guess Texas doesn't know what good potato chips are either.

JOY, it's good to see you're post and I'd like to add that SHIRLEY and AMY are right.  The decision is definitely yours to make.  Please don't get talked into something that you're not ready to do.

CALLIE, I'm glad SHIRLEY is sending her bad weather your way.  I get enough of AMY's handoffs. I sure don't need any of SHIREY's.

It drizzled most of the day today but the temps were in the low 40s so it wasn't so bad.  Mickie and I even took 3 walks in the drizzle and we weren't very wet when we got home.  So I guess I'm ok with the drizzles.

I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow so I don't really care what it does tomorrow.  I do have some outside cleanup to do as soon as it's warm enough so I'm hoping for more warm weather.

I'm going to go get my jammies on and watch one or two short shows on TV and then I'm going to hit the hay! So I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  Ad may God bless us, every one!

"May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You...."  What was the show or singer?  Driving me nuts with just that one phrase going through my head! I Googled & listening to Perry Como, but that isn't the one stuck in my head. Someone used it signing off their music show... had to be in the '40s.

I agree with concatenating, some are lucky Like me Have my spouse to lean on and it is not one sided. even tho I have to admit Nancy reaches out better at least some of the time than I do. Not the age that gets me,it is the hard miles with out sleep or little. back in particularity the trucking days. I some times went 4-5 days without sleep. Ma be part of the reason I do not sleep good now day's. well I am going to join Nancy now in bed.she is smart enough to go to bed at a reasonable time. I am now going to go take the sleeping aid ant get my bypap machine on an hope for a good response. see you all in the morning. good night and sweet dreams.

Coming in late.....but better late than never, right?

It was really cold and windy today.....I sure hope it will be better tomorrow. We have to be at Dave and Michele's before 8 AM as Michele has Chemo tomorrow and we are getting kiddos to school.  They are having their air ducts cleaned, so we will stay there all day while that is being done, Michele getting home and then picking up the children as needed.

Bob's visit to the Physical Therapist went quite well.  They ruled out any serious condition, and treated him for BPPV  (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).  This is what I suspected the issue to be, but it is best to go and find out for sure.  I had this really bad nearly 30 years ago.  They pretty much treat it with the same exercise I was treated with.  I tried to get Bob to do these, but it made his dizziness so bad it made him nauseous and he did not want to do them!  So we hope we are on the right road to recovery.

SHIRLEY, I know Red Skelton used to say something like that at the end of his show.

AMY, good to read that your trip to and from the city was successful.    We had to drive nearly to downtown Denver today also.  Normally we take advantage of being there to eat at one of our favorite places, but today we just wanted to beat the traffic, so headed on home.

MARY ANN, that certainly was strange the way Kendrick reacted during the night.  I think Shirley has a point as to why it happened.  I am happy to read that you are "wired up" now.  It is definitely a good thing to do, and hopefully it will help you to feel safer.

JANE, washing all the bedding is a BIG job. I know it will be wonderful to climb in tonight and hopefully have a good night of rest.

JOY, I am sorry you are feeling depressed, but I think it is natural for you to feel this way after what happened and now the discussion of your ability to remain at home or go to a care home.  I hope your family will be thoughtful of your feelings regarding if YOU think it is time for you to make this move.

We need to head off to bed so we can get up and be ready for our busy day tomorrow.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good morning everyone, sorry I did not make it yesterday. Woke late and had to rush for an appointment with the witch for my yearly evaluation. Got there 10 minutes early but she was interviewing a future tenant and didn't get into the office till 11:30. Got out of there just as my CNA got here. When she left the couch called me and I answered. Monday it was a sunny warm- 60- and I sure went out and sat on the porch with a few others enjoying it. Started raining late yesterday, at least I had a couple of days without much pain in my back.

JANE  hope the melatonin helped you finally get a good sleep. I sure know what it is like to be awake all night. I am so sorry about Bucky, I know you and your family will miss him. Hard when you have known someone when they were a friend of your son's.

AMY  I miss snow a lot this winter-it has been winter hasn't it? I remembered in 2011 we had a snorw fall every other day, ended with over 160 inches of it. My granddaughter took some pictures of it so looked for the folder and not have it as a slide show on this lemon. Huge icicles hanging in front of my windows. They reached the length of the windows to the roof of the porch downstairs.

SHIRLEY  yesterday I managed to have my breakfast before I had my meeting with the witch but didn't have time for coffee.

MARY ANN poor Kendrick, wonder if he was crying because he did not want you to go away again.

CALLIE  last week I shredded a big bag and that was about half of what I had. To me it is a boring job and I keep putting it off.

JOY  at times I wish I could afford assisted living. Getting harder for me to do much of anything. So glad to have the 2 hours 5 days a week from my CNA. One good  thing about having her back after the almost 5 months she was on sick leave, she likes to cook so at least I get one good meal a day besides my morning oatmeal. Right now just do as the doctor tells you and you will be better soon.

SHIRLEY  was it Red Skelton who signed off with - good night and God bless?

LLOYD  I know what it s like to ge only a few hours sleep but at times I get 7 or 8 hours and it feels wonderful.

JENNY  I just mentioned the Red Skelton sigh off to Shirley. 2 brains thinking the same thing?

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's supposed to be another rainy day today but not supposed to start until around 1 pm. and with the temps in low and mid 40s it won't be as bad as that cold, dreary winter rain.

SHIRLEY, I agree with Tomereader.  Roy Rogers and Dale Evans sang that song at the close of every one of their shows!  I still watch that show sometimes.  It's a regular along with The Lone Ranger on one of my cable channels.

Today is a "nothing special" day except for one thing.  My daughter is flying off to Texas to visit her daughter in Houston.  I'll be nervous until she's safely on the ground.  She's supposed to let me know when she's there.  These cell phones do have their good points.

JENNY, my best wishes to MICHELE as she undergoes today's procedure.  God be with her and with all of you as you await the results.

MARY ANN, maybe Kendrick was just welcoming you home and telling you to stay there so he could be with you.  Ever since we lost Annie in November, Mickie has become my shadow.  And one day when I came home, I was still outside and I could hear her actually crying!  I'm wondering if she thought she was all alone!  It only happened once and that was almost two months after we lost Annie.

It's almost time for the boinger so I better close this and say...

I wish you all a happy, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with your friends!

Good morning everyone...

I didn't wake up to Cardinals but crows hollering for their breakfast, non stop!!
I see the snow has started, not much but 15 to 20 inches on its way. Will deal with it when it all gets here.

Jane, more snow on the way  here...and we have winds now to.

Gloria,we have been so lucky this year with the snow fall. Other years we have had to clean up snow every few days it seemed. This year we have had to deal with a lot of ice and I would rather have the snow.

Shirley, that little pup was so sweet and any time my friends daughter is back for a visit they are going to stop in with the pup.

Jenny prayers always for Michele.

Need to get going.. will bbl

Enjoy your day everyone..

I've listened to so many U-tube versions of "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You"... but not the one that I keep hearing in my head! Funny that it didn't impress me all those years ago but seems so sweet now. My daughter never missed Roy Roger's show, I loved Red Skelton and his "Good Night and God Bless".... or Perry Como Show. I do recall TV was not so much for looking as listening... all that snow & trying to aim those rabbit ears the right direction. We had a little TV that would go off & had to take the knob off & tap the metal part with the silver Ronson table lighter (remember those?) that we bought at the PX when stationed in England. I gave that lighter to my daughter years ago, as a keepsake. She remembered the routine. The lighter had dents on the bottom from those taps. Cigarettes were 10 cents a pack at the PX back then. I quit when she turned 13 so she wouldn't smoke, but Cas smoked for another 20-30 years. I don't know anyone that smokes anymore. My father smoked all my life, never quit until in a nursing home & they didn't allow patients to have matches or lighters, and he didn't want to sit outside to smoke! He lived to 95 and never had that cough so many had.

It is clear & cold this morning. Some areas had snow yesterday but I never saw any. It rained and the pool is full to the top so will have to do something about that. Have a lot of jobs lined up to do but not the drive to get 'em done!

Amy, that cardinal would be yelling at my feeder for sure. I no more than fill and look out the window & see a squirrel pigging out. Feeder hangs on a shepherd's hook but there is a brick part of fence close enough the squirrels can jump from it to the feeder. In the summer when cats are out squirrels don't come around as much. Cute card.

Hugs and prayers for all, stressful times and I do think our bodies react to people not being jovial, don't you? Thanks for all the tips of who the singer was. I never found the right version of Roy Rogers... but not ready to give up yet.

Good morning to you & Nancy, Lloyd. I don't often get 6 hours sleep but do get a nap when less than 6. Looks cloudy again, had sun coming up a little while ago.

We have had a very thick fog this morning but it is beginning to clear a little bit. Supposed to have rain again this afternoon just about the time I have a dental appointment.  I'm feeling very "put upon" right now.  grumble, grumble

I can't believe today is Ash Wednesday.  After longing for Spring it appears to be happening, after all.

Joy, I know how you are feeling and am sharing your worries with you.  And, it is so hard to go against what the family wants.  They are worried about you but sometimes they don't understand the things that are concerning or worrisome to you.  I just read an article about my town being one of two best towns in NC to live in....if you are rich.  And, I am not!  It seems that everyday some big developer is building Retirement communities or Assisted Living facilities here and all of them have astronomical fees.  Right now I am lucky to have son, David, here but as time goes on and I need more personal assistance.....what to do?  I suppose all questions will be answered in one way or another but there are times when I get discouraged, too.  Please don't be shy about sharing your concerns with us.

I must get some breakfast and get on with my day.

Well, this one's on me and not Kendrick.  I heard  the sound again this morning and the cat was not near me and I realized I was wheezing.   The sound was very constant and I am sure it was I who was making the noise.  The best idea I had of those submitted was that he had a bad dream and came to me to be sure I was still there!

It looks like another dreary day today but it isn't March yet, is it?

I am enjoying my "new" room and last evening four of us were in it.  It has enough chairs but they are not comfortable to sit for long.

Time for breakfast.

Mary Ann

That's it, Janie! I have tears in my eyes that you found it!!! Thank you so much! It is playing as I type and every word & sound comes back just as I remembered. I forgot that he had a show back in the old days! I will bookmark to hear again & again.

Mary Ann, that is so funny you heard the sound again this morning. I do understand since CallieCat has been laying in one of the cat beds behind this computer chair... and she snores so loud I had to stop breathing first time I heard her, to make sure is wasn't ME making that sound.

Phyllis & Joy (and everyone else), I don't have the dread of assisted living that some people have because I figure every patient in there is in the same boat, so time to help each other be happy or else change what makes us unhappy. I do hope we can all find a "forever" place and caring people that will help us through that stage of life.

My grandmother was in her 90s when she made the comment to me that "when someone didn't KNOW where they were it was easier for them, but help the ones with clear minds as they learn to accept". So true. It was very considerate of her children to keep her house intact until after she died, and now and then one of them would would take her "home" for a visit. Not sure with taxes, utilities & maintenance most families could afford to do that with cost of assisted living now.

Just for the record, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans close their show with "Happy Trails to You".  But I have a CD of theirs that has them singing "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You".  They do a god job with it but no one compares to Tennessee Ernie Ford!

Well the day is flying by!! I have fed the birds 3 times now and the crows again too. Snow is still falling and it doesn't sound as if it will stop until tomorrow. Everything is ready for the clean up.

Made an appointment for Babe with the vet..she is still favouring the hind leg so time for an xray. Since Jesse is due his needles in March we will those while there. I am sure both dogs are not going to like me on Monday . :(

Jane, friend of the family took me along with them with their daughter to the east coast and all the way from Ontario to New Brunswick we sang Happy Trail To you and The Bible Tells Me So. I don't remember any other songs we sang just those two.

Mary Ann, thankfully nothing was wrong......with either you or Kendrick!! Made me smile when I read that.

Lloyd, you could have shaken the clouds a bit more to get more snow.....we won't miss it!!

Better get going..

Keep on top of things.

Another late night post....

This day started out pretty bad.....Bob woke up dizzier than ever...he could hardly stand and maneuver around at all.  We were suppose to be to Dave and Michele's before 8 AM.  we made it, but it was not good.  As the morning progressed he felt better and as long as he kept his head level he was OK, but his stomach continued to be pretty upset.

We were to spend the day there after Michele left for chemo to be there for a crew that was coming in to clean out the air ducts.  Oh my, I hope to never have to sit through that again.  There were two very nice young men doing the work, but the noise of those BIG vacuums was awful!  Michele got home and we had a nice chat with her before it was time to take our granddaughter to her dance practice.

We have another physical therapy session for Bob at 10 AM.  I sure hope he wakes up in better condition tomorrow.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Well, we're up and attem.  I probably slept better last night than I have in a month of Sundays.  The weather has taken a drastic change, though!  We don't have the snow AMY does but the wind has whipped up and the temp has stayed down.  After our nice warm but wet day yesterday, today we have cold and windy and that makes it feel colder!  It isn't supposed to get above 34 and the wind will make it "feel" 9 or 10 degrees lower.

We're waiting for the boinger for Mickie's pill and then breakfast for both of us.

JENNY, I sure hope BOB feels better today.  Dizzy is no fun!  I've been there!

Don't know what's on the agenda for today but I'm sure something will holler for attention.  It always does!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be a bunny and hop back in here and share it with very interested friends!

I'm listening to TN Earnie Ford again... can't believe how good it makes me feel, Jane.

Jenn, do hope Bob is better today and you get a chance to slow down. Why does it seem we are all in such a rush-rush mode?

Don, sorry about your hospital stay. I've heard about too many people having a terrible reaction to the flu after shots. I don't take them because my body does NOT want anything but food put in it. Take care.

Mary Ann, you are a wise lady and I have no doubt you will do what you know you must, to keep your world intact.

Lloyd, I do remember what those muddy ruts are like. Where we lived & raised the kids, was a new street that sucked up the chat/rock that was dumped on it every year, it was called black gumbo dirt. Our house sat 90' back from the street, we hauled tons & tons of hard "chat" on that driveway and finally Cas made concrete borders to hold the chat in place & we filled until there was no mud in the driveway. The street still has ruts because it can't be paved with the water, sewer, power & gas lines that cross at every house. One time I pulled over a bit too far & got stuck in the mud in front of the house across the street... & had to call the auto club to pull me out. Take care, leveling all that rock is for younger people than we are! I am happy to live in town now!

Amy, I would love a deep snow to slide down the hill on the Sno-nut, but dancing with the snow blower is not in the books for us this year, I don't think.  We had that extreme cold wind, rain when the sun was shining & above freezing and even the cats were depressed with the weather.  Weather guessers are saying it will be a very nice week end, but we know winter is NOT really over.

I was awake until 2:00 am, thinking of the busy week end ahead. Gr-daughter & family are going to be in town for a short visit. Since I don't host the gatherings I try to help any way I can, but not sure there is enough steam right now to do much helping. Morning half gone and I have not had my breakfast yet. I picked up fish & chips yesterday after getting my ashes at noon, and that food was so greasy I couldn't eat the rest of the day. Anyway, okay this morning but just not my bright & shiny ( ;)  ) self.
Good morning to all, hope everyone has a better day so come tell us what is going on!

Good morning everyone. 50 to start my day. Is this February or late March? Another over slept again. Oh well as long as I get my breakfast and dressed before 12 when my CNA gets here no rush for anything.
Have you heard on the news about medical supplies are running out here because they all come from China. So much for this darn OUTSOURCING of jobs. Makes me think I should stop watching the news.

JANE  like you I will be glad when oldest son and DIL are back from their cruise and are safely home. They should be home Sunday. They already have next years cruise booked for a longer cruise. With that new thing that started in China and spreading I wish they had stayed home.

AMY  love your morning Cardinal you posted yesterday. Like you snow is better than followed by rain and turns to ice. We have had winters like that here. The first winter I lived here we had that and lot ot leaks that did damage in some of the apartments. The witch finally got a crew to clear the roof after the damage was done. They used axes to chop the ice and then had to put on a new roof.

LLOYD  glad you got a good sleep again. That is something everyone needs.

SHIRLEY  I never cared for Roy Rogers. I did like Gene Autry.

PHYLLIS  I was surprised yesterday when on TV they were talking about Ash Wednesday.  It was also my DIL's birthday. Since they were out on the Atlantic I could not call her but did send her a Jackie Lawson card.

JANE  I always liked Ernie Ford and his program but had not thought of him in a long time.

DON  so good to see you here. Sorry about the flu and all you went through. You are so ‪missed in here. God help you regain your strength so you can post more often.

AMY  I used to say that good night to my 3 when they were young, love it.

JENNY  sorry Bob is suffering with dizzyness. Hope the doctors or the PT helps him PDQ.

After 11 now so better get a move on and get dressed.

Have a good day.

Good Morning,

Don, so sorry about your illness but glad you're feeling better.  I don't get the flu shot, either - nor have I gotten all the other inoculations the "experts" think we oldsters ought to have. When "they" can guarantee I will not even get the disease, I'll consider them...maybe.

Shirley, apparently, you shooed the nasty weather around me.  Thank you very much!  ;)  Bitterly cold yesterday but sunny.  This morning started out cold but is supposed to be near 60 by this afternoon.

I'm off to play Bridge at a local restaurant.  8 of us play there twice a month; we have the same waiter and he almost automatically knows what we're going to order.

Birds are hungry and they brought their friends too....we had 6 pigeons.

Sandy, your body must need the sleep or it wouldn't happen. We have high winds and snow here and lots of both!

Callie, good hands for you at bridge today..

Gloria, you also needed the sleep. We have lost a lot of businesses here. We saw the rubble of the Sears building on Tue......so sad to see the building torn down. I miss shopping at Sears.

Better clean up the kitchen..

Amy..  Yes,  I am sure that
my body does need the extra
sleep as I am up many
times during the night
(bathroom stops)  and
by the morning I don't wake
up as often,
so it is a good time for me
to play catch up on my sleep.

There is so much bad news
about the Coronavirus  with not
much that can be done about it
that makes me think that I  should
try to get a head of it by bringing in
some food that I can stored ....

Damn...  it could be that they
are just trying to scare us...

Never know these days just what
I should do.

Time will tell ..

Been busy with therapy twice today. Helped with dressing and bathing.  They all tell me I am doing good,  but hard for to see it.  I guess I want it to happen faster.  Still have a way to go.  My sister in law came today and bought lunch.  That was nice. No decisions made yet.  I have to go back to the surgeon next Wed ,so waiting to see what he says.  I still am limited as to what I am allowed to do.  ,can't bend over, or cross my legs.  Have to sleep with a big sponge thing to keep my legs from moving.  10 or. 12_hours in the same position is so hard.  Not sure how long I have to do that,  but getting hard to do.  Thanks for your good thoughts.

Not snowing as much but the wind is still blowing.

I am one who has had both flu and pneumonia shots.  I often wonder when I hear about others not getting the shots, whether it is worth it, but I always get the shots.  So far I have been lucky.  Tom does not get the shots and he had a form of flu in Tulsa but I think his problem was brought on by the air in the plane and the change in atmosphere.  I am no meteorologist, so what do I know!

Joy, I hope you can get get out of your brace soon; I am sure it is uncomfortable.  Maybe I should start taking calcium again.

Sandy, I am not with others often, just Tom, but but it only takes one person to give a cold or flu.  The way I feel at present, I am content to stay inside.

Don, I am pleased to hear you are going to put on a mini version of your program.  I'll bet people will love it an i know it will do you a lot of good.

Amy, we have not had enough snow this year to make it worth dancing with a snowblower or a hand shovel.  It has been very nice for me but I know March will bring unusual weather.

good evening everyone. well It is time for me to bid you all good night and sweet dreams. now for dropping right Off to sleep, dose not happen now days. my mined tells me it it is time to go to bed and sleep, but the thoughts and aches and pains won't let it listen. I take two of those go to sleep pills helps but is not a fix all st all. AMY am not asking your age But you have to be a lot younger than my 82 + years. No way I could run snow blower and shovel snow and split wood and stack it like you do. several years ago I worked for the county running a road grader. when we had big snows in my districk I had sections that would drift clear across the road from fence to fence a 1/4th mile or more 6 -8 feet deep, I had a pretty new grader that had very good hydrolysis on it, so I would run it at 8-10 MPH and then push my self out backwards with the blade rotation an in reverse. and keep that up until i got through single lane.then set the blade out to side high and repeat at high speed until I had wide enough for cars to pass. would set blade up just above the rock so I would not though it off of the road. I would get up and start clearing the roads in my aria at 1 or 2 AM and run it until 11 or 12 PM. I knew where the shut IN'S Lived and would Lay my aria out until I could get them first. all my working life at that and truck driving I put in too long of day I am sure that is why I do not sleep good now. I am going now take my shot and pills and go to bed see you all tomorrow.

I'm just waiting for my pill to take effect and then I'll be heading for bed.

LLOYD, you did enough work in your lifetime to last you the rest of it.  So now you have earned the right to take it easy...if you even know how to do that!  Please try!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning g everyone..

Still windy out but I don't think there was much snow after I had cleaned it last evening. Didn't do the dog run so will check that out later. Meeting friends in town this morning  and picking up Kyles meds.

Lloyd, we have slowed down a lot....we don't buy log lengths anymore to cut and split, we buy it already cut and split. All we have to do is pile it and we do that at our own pace....and I know that all too soon we will have to give that up. Jane was right, you have done a lot of hard work over the years and you have earn your rest. Enjoy it, you certainly have earned it.

Don, the residents there will be in for a treat with you doing a radio show...

Mary Ann, I don't get the flu shot ,the only one I did get was the Shingles shot. Saw a ladies back that had the shingles and I don't know how she put up with the pain!!

Better go get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, 27 now and looks a little hazy out, Just about light out when I opened my eyes but 6 is better than waking at 3 or after 9.

AMY  send that snow here along with some of your temperatures, it would help clear the air. No one ill in this building and so far my family members are all OK. That I thank God for. I miss Sears, too. I jave a set of sheets-good cotton ones-I bought there almost  40 years ago and they are still so nice and soft I use them on the bed more than the others I have

DON  how wonderful for you to have a chance to share your music once again. I still miss your Sunday afternoons with your program on. I liked hearing you role  out some of the names of the composers. I would look at the names and just could not say them.

Talking about that virus I wish I had room to store extra food. At least cookies crackers and peanut butter don't need to be in the fridge, also powdered milk or the milk in cartons that only need to be in the fridge after opening. I worry about losing power and not having a way to keep food or be able to cook it.

AMY  at least you would keep warm and be able to cook on your wood stove. My daughter and I were talking yesterday about those old stoves and the heat from them. That is what I grew up with and I had one when I was married and had 3 little ones. Snoopy is one smart dog with living every day about dieing only once. Oh wow you will be snowed in soon if the snow does not stop.

JANE  my days of hopping like a bunny are over, how about I slowly get here instead?

Something is messed up here. It is now 7:30 am and Shirley posted at 10:30 am this morning? That is what the time is on her post.

SHIRLEY stay off that snow nut unless someone is there with you. I do not wan to think of you out ther e alone and running into a tree or something. Behave ot I give you 10 lashes with a wet noodle. :(

Hello to Lloyd, Joy and Mary Ann and Phyllis. I have been sitting here too long and back is getting stiff. Better move around and limber up a bit.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a cold one here!  It's probably colder where AMY is but it's cold enough to make me want to hug the warm inside.

Many years ago when the place I was working offered free flu shots, I got them two years in a row and I got the flu both of those years.  The next year, I passed and no flu.  The only preventive shot I've gotten over the years is a pneumonia shot and that's the only one that my doctor urges me to get.  The rest of them she understands about and just says "It's time for the "whatever" shot. Are you getting it or not?"  I always pass!

We're in wait mode for Mickie's pill.  When the boinger goes off, we'll have breakfast and then I'll be heading for the showers and a short shopping trip to WM.  I'm totally out of milk and eggs and my daughter will be arriving for the weekend tonight.  I also have to pick up a few other things...like laundry detergent and tissues.  And if my favorite gal is working today, I might get a haircut!

Now I better get my day started.

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with us!  I wish we could all share Radioman's show!

Well, guess that was yesterday, Gloria. I am up again, was up at 5:00 am but attem stayed in bed so I ate, fed cats first & we all went back to sleep. Have plenty to do around here, going to open the RV & put some of the "stuff" back inside that was washed & gathered up after the last trip. Haha, takes months to get me moving!

Don, glad you are going back into business with your show, good for you & all the others that live there. I have an oldies radio show that keeps my body moving any time a tune comes on that we danced to in the '50s (or late '40s). Moves a few muscles that don't get exercised any other way.

Gloria, bet you'd join me on that Sno-Nut if we got together to play in a foot deep snow. Probably be too sore to move next day, head willing but body shot, huh? I'll probably be laying on my death bed, yelling, "But I haven't had a chance to ski, hang glide or see Alaska yet!"

Got to get a move on, nearly noon & I have nothing to show for this spring day! Poor plants are going to really get a jolt when winter returns after a week end of 60s & one weather man thinks it may go up to 70 degrees! No more Easter egg hunts in this yard. Cas used to work his magic to hurry up the grass, always the first in the neighborhoods to be mowing, but the yard was ready for the egg hunt, no matter how early! Happy thoughts for the day!  Shirley

Good afternoon.  All by myself today and it is lonlely.  Have not had any  PT today at all.  But sometimes they come late.  I am supposed to have it twice a day.  I do feel better , I think.  Lol. Washed and dressed with minimal help.  I can't bend over so need help with getting my slacks on.  They will teach me how to do that with a grabber.  Still have a long way to go..  They are going to show my daughter in law how to get me in the car to go to the surgeon on Wednesday.  She is a retired physical therapist and knows about how to do that.  So that will save an ambulance ride.  Will be glad to hear how he thinks I am doing.  My son will meet us there. Thanks for you kind wishes.  Just wanted to check in.  Joy

Good Afternoon,

I struggle to follow posts about health issues/pet care/household chores/etc. with what sounds like a frivolous life - but Janie wants us to "(have) a lovely, healthy day! Make it your own in every way!And be a bunny and hop back in here and share it...! so Here Goes:

Amy,  the best thing I can say about Bridge yesterday is that lunch was tasty and the company was fun.  ;)

I had planned to come home from a podiatrist appointment this morning to do desk work and read.  However, I learned via text and phone calls that:

Sir Carson, who is a Construction Management major at OSU,  has accepted a summer internship with a Texas construction company and will be based in Denton. He called after I texted him that I knew and we had a wonderful conversation about that and other things.  :smitten:

Miss Emily, who will graduate next December as "Dr. Emily, Chiropractor", has accepted an invitation to a Service/Mission trip in Mexico between the spring and summer trimesters. She has never had "one foot in the air and her hand on the doorknob" like her sister, Miss Ellen. So going out of the country is a Big Step for her.  Had already had some conversations with her about this.

Also discovered on Facebook that a couple in my hometown has restored part of an historic building into what looks like a lovely restaurant.  My family was connected with the building from about 1907 until 1967. One picture was of a sign for a business my grandfather/great-uncle began that the couple found and put up on the wall.  I've touched base via "instant message" with the wife and will be hunting up some other history and mementoes to share.

Really need to take care of the desk work but reading may have to wait.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a "Frabulous Friday".

Every one of you has been much more busy than I have been.  I am listening to music on the Music Choice channel on the TV and it's nice to not have get up to change channels every hour.  I learn about familiar composers and new composers every day.  It is background music for me because I forget it is on.

Lloyd mentioned working with snow plowing in the "good old days" and it made me think of the days  my dad and I went to Glacier Park before the snow was plowed and rangers would tell us how the roads were plowed and that they lost some drivers who drove off the roads and were lost because the snow was so deep.  We loved driving those roads  in  late Spring with snow on each side of the road.

Tom and I are still weary from our illnesses but Tom will not sit still and I think if he'd stay in bed two days in a row, he'd heal faster.  I wonder if I will ever  get back to near what I was.  I'm good at sitting, but the cat is impatient.

CALLIE, I'd like to know if you REALLY sit still.  Are you turning pages, shifting papers around.  Are your eyes darting here and there?  Did you notice that bird fly past the window?  What was that you just put in your mouth?  Ooops!  I think you just uncrossed your legs!  Was that an itch you scratched on your elbow!  Even if we say we're doing nothing we're actually DOING nothing so we're doing something!  And that's all I have to say about that!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Friday evening HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.  I had quite the post written when one slip of the finger managed to make it go POOF!  Gurrr!

Bob went to the PT yesterday and they were surprised that he was so bad after the first session.  He was better during the day the; again this morning he was dizzy as always.  As the day progressed he did better and better. Therapist told him if he got worse they would fit him in on Monday as his next appointment is not until Wednesday.

CALLIE, congratulations to Carson for the summer internship.  I hope it goes very well for him .  Also, happy to read the news about Emily. How exciting for her.

DON, it is great to see a post from you.  Sorry to read you were ill and in the hospital.  Glad you are feeling better.  How exciting you are going to do your show for the lucky folks there in your little community.  If they enjoy it half as much as I did they are in for a real treat!

SHIRLEY, I had to chuckle at the thought of you and GLORIA on the sno-nut!  I bet you could have a great time!

GLORIA, I know you will be very happy when your son and DIL are home safe from their cruise.  Yesterday we talked to our youngest son and he has come down with a terrible cold.....worrisome because he is the one that just returned from a trip to Mexico.  We really do not think there is any chance it is this awful virus that we are hearing all about, but it does make one a bit uneasy.

Pleasant dreams to all,

Jenny

Good morning everyone, I am so tired of temperatures in the 20's and the wind we have been having. It was nice and sunny yesterday and I went out when my CNA left and turned around and came back inside.
I woke early this morning but that's OK, I get to see some old programs on the ME channel. But really feel like going back to bed. I woke hungry so having a cup of coffee now and then my breakfast. Maybe snooze on the couch after?

JANE  gee if I can hop in here any one want to play Hopscotch? Wow have not played that since grammer school-about 80 years ago.

SHIRLEY  guess we can still do all those things--IN OUR DREAMS. I did get on skis once and looked down the hill and said no way so hang gliding is out too. I prefer my 2 feet on the ground.

JOY  good seeing your post. Every thing takes time so you will be moving around like you are used to.

CALLIE  looks like you have grands to be proud of. They are doing what they want for a life's work.

MARY ANN  wish we were we still had those good old days today when we were all healthy and did every thing we wanted.

JENNY  if I was to get on Shirley's Sno Nut someone would have to get me up. Have to ge careful I do not even kneel on the floor, would never be able to get up on my own.

Have a good day.

G'Morning All. Sorry I have not 'looked in' for a while but have been rather 'off colour for the past few weeks, what with twice weekly visits from the community Nurses, Hospital visits as well as having to callout the emergency nurses, my other half also has had her fair share of troubles !, between us both we have kept OUR 'N H S' (National Health Service) rather busy to say the least !,now i can only say 'Thank goodness' this month has ended !, it seems by reading the past few weeks letters in here that several others have also been unwell ! since Christmas, I send my best wishes to all and hope that like me, you all are slowly making a recovery.
I have not heard anything from Lloyd for some weeks now, has anybody any news of him ?, I hope he has not been involved in anymore 'mishaps' again !.
I see you are getting plenty of 'snow' thank goodness so far we have not had any, plenty of windy and wet weather coming up the English Channel but at last there are  some signs of spring in the air!.
                                 Cheerio for now. Roley  :)

Good morning everyone.

What a difference in temperature -23° F at the moment. Debating on hanging laundry out but hmm....maybe not. The snow is deep and I think the sheets would drag unless I hung them length ways.

Laundry to do and will see about snow blowing the back yard. As Callie says Domestic Duties are calling me.

Will deliver a banana loaf  bit latter on and that should be it.
Picked up a 55 lb bag of cracked corn yesterday for the crows and when we drove in 3 crows were waiting on it. We did have a laugh over that. The other birds, jays ,juncos, sparrows and doves are also eating it.

Gloria ,hope you find some zz's later today.
Roley, so nice to see you and I hope both you and your wife feel a lot better.

Time to get ready for the day..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My daughter from Maryland arrived last evening aroung 7 and we've been talking a blue streak every since.  I'm sure today will be a full day!

Right now, Mickie and I are waiting out her pill and then we'll see about breakfast.  Christy and Frankie are still seeping so I'm trying to be quiet!  Christy has to get up pretty early every day and Frankie has always liked to sleep in so I don't want to wake them.  Must be nice to be able to sleep like that!

ROLEY, keep on improving in health and keep on coming back in.  If you go back in the postings, you'll see some from LLOYD and they might explain what he's been up to!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And "HOP" back into share it with your nosy but interested and caring friends!

Oh, Phyllis, I haven't thought of Sadie Hawkins Day for years! Always a big deal back in high school since girls didn't usually as boys for dates & that was the big day!  One year my best friend & I volunteered to make giant characters (all those Dog Patch people) to tie to the floor to ceiling columns in the lunch room that we converted to dance floor .... so we had people donate mattress boxes to the art room, which was on 3rd floor of the high school... and found we had to take them down to ground level lunch room to paint. My friend had a wicked sense of humor so figured best was to get the boxes down was "ride" them from floor to floor. Of course, best place was the back stairs ... not so visible. She hopped on one & it echoed the halls as it bounced down that flight of steps. I was right behind & jumped off & we pulled the boxes into the girls rest room which was at each floor, top of steps. We heard doors pop open as teachers tried to figure what that noise was... when all quite we made it to the next level & was dying laughing as we dragged those boxes over to the lunch room to paint. Our Sadie & friends made a big hit at the dance.... we closed the doors after midnight that night! We were lucky to have a wonderful principal that knew the difference in having fun and being bad.... we never did anything mean or bad, but we sure had our share of fun.

Nice to see you, Peter. Sorry you've both been sick. Spring will be here and everyone should feel better, than, don't you think?  I do remember the beautiful flowers in England, every yard was like a picture. Besides, always flowers sold for the table in spring. That was a "wonder" for me, buying daffodils from Holland for every day. I could never have enough years to enjoy everything there is... need another life time. Best wishes to you.

Lloyd, I also remember having those tons of rock brought in, so how do you level it?  We had a little yard tractor with blade but it didn't have enough power to move the heavy rock so a lot was done by our muscles. Hard work!

Amy, we had a long board to prop under the center of the clothesline to lift it so sheets didn't drag, but with the wind so stiff it would lift sheets high enough the board would fall & sheets would get in the dirt. Never could grow much grass under the clothesline because it got walked on so much. I didn't get a dryer until the youngest was in school... so plenty of years fighting this Kansas wind. I'd love a line to hang out now but "not allowed"... :(

Gloria, I was trying to kneel on the floor lsst night, to get something out of a lower cabinet in the kitchen... darn knee wanted no part of that hard floor. The body is rebelling!

Jane, my daughter decided she should stay home this week end, she's been traveling back & forth to visit kids all over the US.... but we've sent a dozen texts to each other this morning as she struggles with NOT hopping in her car & driving in. Enjoy your daughter & all that special time together.

Callie, it is so fun to watch these grands getting to do things we couldn't even dream about. My one gr-daughter is in another world this week, her company is building ethanol plants & she goes back & forth like we used to do driving from central MO to KC. Good luck to your "kids" on their adventures.

I'd better get busy, no time for a nap now. I've gotten into a habit of up early, feed me & cats & back to finish my sleep. BUT, can't do that on week ends, especially with the weather to be a nice as today. Need to rake up some leaves around the flowers in front, the daffodils are trying to come up. The way this house sits I get all the leaves from east & west to stop at my sidewalk from driveway to front door. Piles of leaves from trees I do NOT have!. Getting spring fever but know it isn't spring.... (song in there).... Shirley

Shirley, I love hearing  about your activities around school when you were young.  I wasn't as mischievous as you, nor were my friends, besides, my dad was a respected member of the faculty so I tried to be Miss Goody Good shoes.  Norm was not bad, but did let more "hang out".  I do remember Sadie Hawkins Day but I don't remember any school activities around the day.

At the house where I grew up, Mother could hang clothes outside and I did there and at the next house, but not here.  We had two clothes poles and they followed me here.  It wasn't until Tom decided one of them had to go so I let him put it in the trash.  There still is one in the garage and they've got to be nearly 100 years old.  If allowed, I would use them yet.  On the other hand would I want to hang out clothes in cold and wind at my present age!

Good Morning,

Oh my, so many memories I can relate to!

Gloria, my elementary school had a lot of open area around it.  We played hopscotch on one side, jacks and jump rope on the other side,  "Mother, May I" on the front steps and "Red Rover" and Dodge Ball in the big area behind the building.  I remember falling during one hopscotch game and having to have my knee "painted" with merthiolate (sp?).Wow, did it sting!!!! Mother always used mercurochrome that didn't sting as much.

I am proud of my Grands for having career goals and working toward them.  Not too sure that Miss Ellen will ever make a living in musical theater but am pretty sure she has A Plan and is doing well supporting herself and Living Her Dream in NYC.

Shirley, after we moved here, I reconnected with the family of a former high school teacher whose first year of teaching was my sophomore year.  We were visiting when she asked if I knew that my class had almost made her husband go into another line of work.  I said,  "Oh, Mary, we weren't that bad" and she replied solemnly, "Oh, yes, you were".
Like yours - we were never destructive or mean to people but we did get into a lot of mischief.

You are correct in saying that our Grands are doing things we never imagined doing - although I did take off on my own after college.  Have always said I "left Oklahoma to see the world - and got as far as Amarillo"!

I didn't have a dryer until we had lived in Leadville for several years.  I remember actually reaching down to hang out clothes because of snow piling up under the clothes line.  Hubby must have shoveled out a space to hang sheets.

Oh, thank you, Shirley and Amy ( :P  :smitten:  )for reminding me that I have Domestic Duties and that I need to get leaves out of the corner behind the a/c on the patio while it's in the 70's this weekend.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Callie, we also played those games double dutch was a favorite rope game. When in public school we took Home Ec and it was done in a neighbouring school. To get to that school we had a half an hour walk plus go over a open foot bridge. All was well in the summer but in the winter it was cold and we were not allowed to wear slacks so what we did was put slacks on under our dresses and when we got to school hiked them up under our dress.  What we made we had to also eat..and some was not pleasing to me. I have fond memories of that teacher and yes she did teach us a lot in cooking and sewing. Now imagine my surprise when I joined quilts for cancer that her daughter was also there. We had quite the conversation about her Mom :)  Memories :smitten:

Amy, those were cardboard matress boxes back in the day cardboard was really tough... almost a stiff as wood & the sound as it went over those steps really echoed the halls. I'm sure all the teachers knew what it was by end of day. The stair way was really wide since we went up & down on the same steps! We flattened the boxes so grabbed the sides to hang on & was as much fun as that Sno-Nut!
Mary Ann, in my class of between 200-300+ students, one girl was the principal's daughter & another the English teacher & senior class sponsor. Admitted that group was much more studious than the 10 I hung out with most, but I did fit in with every group all through the years and managed to corrupt them all.  ;)  I only had 2 teachers (women) that didn't like me & it was mainly because they didn't like one of my group because her father & uncle were on the school board and she flaunted the rules. In both cases all the kids knew these teachers were unfair to me and would have backed me up if I had taken a stand. My mother was one that insisted we have a look at the real reason when people were mean or unkind, so I felt sorry for them and let it go. All through school I truly enjoyed my teachers, some more than others, but usually it was the teachers that were strictest with us that I found most respect for in the end. I think they enjoyed our fun times with us because we included them in our activities instead of avoiding them. Our town was 35,000-40,000 with 7 elementary schools, a Catholic school & one for blacks. That's the way it was back then. Eighth grade all 7 schools dumped into one high school, a 3 story brick building with NO elevators! haha.. we did our share of walking as each class would be on a different level or end of school. The graduating class wasn't nearly that large as many would get married or get jobs and drop out. Times were hard, some of the boys had to help support their families when the fathers either split or died.

We didn't know as much about each other, no cell phones or twitter... but had party lines that were a nightmare when you had someone on the party that listened in on others conversations! Everyone loved my parents, my siblings friends & mine would stop to visit with them after we were all gone from home. No matter what they were doing, a knock on the door and both would take the "kids" in to sit around the kitchen table & visit as long as they wanted to stay. I had it easiest, being the last of 5 kids, but also had all those "bosses" to keep me in line.

Time to hear how the rest of you survived the '30s-'40s-'50s ..'fess up!

My Sno-Nut was made by Flexible Flyer, bought back in the early '70s when I bought the wooden kind for my boys. It never got out of the box until we moved to this house 31 years ago & now I have the perfect hill... right into the Arkansas River!  Thanks, Amy, last time I Googled Sno-Nut someone had one same color as mine, but that is basically the same design.  You just take hold of those hand holds, slap it under your rear & sit on it, it does have a bottom so you don't sit in the snow, but have to put your feet out front for brakes.  Now tell me, Amy, would you join me since Gloria won't?

Shirley, oh yes I would join you and I think Janie would too!!

In my younger years (long time ago) we would take that same type of cardboard and go up a hill and slide down!! You went like greased lightening and you only stopped because there was no hill left!! All went well until you lost your grip on the cardboard ,then you went down the hill on your bottom.

And we here in Big D, never get snow, deep enough to do Sno-Nut, sled or cardboard. Once in a blue moon, it will snow, and put about an inch or two on the ground, that stays a bit, then the folks who moved here from up north will drag out their sleds, their cardboard or anything else big enough to sit in or on, and fly down the hills at FlagPole Hill.  It looks like so much fun, but I am past the age when I would dare.  I mean, when you fall down in your own living room breaking shoulder and wrist, the daredevil in you just floats away!!

On to more plebian things.  I never come in here and post my daily agenda, but today!... Well, for some reason I had an energy attack this morning.  Stripped the bed, washed two loads (king sized sheets) and with other odds and ends, I started fading fast.  All this multi-tasking...(same thing as running around like a chicken with its head cut off).  I wrestled with putting that King sized bottom sheet back on, and boom, I was plumb tuckered out!  Decided I needed nourishment, and since we have a very nice family-style restaurant (not a chain) about one block from me, I phoned in an order.  They have a vegetable sampler, from which you can choose 5 veggies.  I got grilled veggies, carrots, green beans, broccoli/rice casserole and turnip greens. 2 pcs. cornbread. There is enough food there, after I finished, to feed me for another 2 or 3 days.  I'm so full, and so
tired. When I get that bed finished, I'm for a nap, or at least a "lie-down"!

TOMEREADER, you mentioned "The Big D"  Are you referring to Dallas?  My Daughter lives in ALLEN, I think we figured it to be the 5th suburb north out of Dallas.  I spent lots of summers there when my 2 granddaughter were growing up.  I was the "summer all purpose person" and I really got around!  They were busy kids!

AMY you're right!  I'll take a fling on the sno-nut!  And I still want to go on one of those zip lines or whatever they call them.

And now I'm off to watch a bit of TV through my eyelids.  It's been a long day!  Christy and Frankie are staying at Frankie's tonight because they have stuff to do in town in the morning.  They'll be back tomorrow afternoon.  So I need all the rest I can get!

Later....maybe!

As I said, I love hearing about your schoolday activities.  I don't recall that I was in any clubs, although there were some.  Neighbor girls and I walked home about 1 1/4 miles but on Friday, I got a ride home with Dad.  We had a former farm next to our house and in winter we made a pie an played out there; I don't remember what we called it, but we had numbers on it.  In summers we played hopscotch and in winters we skiied down the grapevine hill.  In summer we pulled weeds and made shelters in the grapevines.  We did not have much traffic on our street but we played in the field anyway.  Our parents would go to the front doors and holler for us.  Of course. no cell phones.  There were trees in the yards and we'd climb the trees, mostly apple and cherry, eat green apples and I don't recall anyone getting sick from the unripe fruit.  Kids Norm's age congregated around out house and we had a path around the house.  Dad wondered if he'd ever get grass to grow where the kids ran a path around the house.  Back in the field, we played softball and had many broken basement windows from errant balls.  Those were the days, weren't they?

All of that is built over now with no fields to play in.  We  played Jacks on a neighbor's porch and and now if they play them, they use the sidewalks.

Yes, Jane, the Big D, is Dallas.  Born and raised here.  Haven't been to many places, but I'm always glad to arrive at one or the other of the freeways into Dallas.

I might be making a trip to Texas this summer.  Maybe we could meet somewhere and shake hands or have a hug.  There's another lady who lives in the Dallas area and I've met her, too!

I'm off to bed and tomorrow will be a busy day.  Might not have a chance to check in but I'll sure try.  In the meantime, I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Mary Ann, I wasn't in any clubs, certainly not the singing ones...I have a "booming" voice but can't carry a tune, I could sing harmony okay in grade school, but no glee clubs or all the other clubs in high school. I didn't know I had a booming voice until my sister in law was saying their gr-daughter has my booming voice. Not sure it was a compliment, but guess it comes from being that youngest child & wanting to be heard now & then. My best friend (that had all the crazy ideas), & I were cheerleaders our Junior & Senior years of high school and we sure could yell. The groups of girls were called "clicks" back in those days, but I really was comfortable mingling with the whole class.

Tome, for sure, that last stretch of getting home is special...

Jane, when I was little 2 of my brothers (one at the top & the other caught me) let me hang from Mom's clothesline, we lived on a steep hill... much like the zip lines.... but don't think it happened but once. I never cried if I got hurt but I do think my hands were sore & they didn't want to get into trouble. I don't recall any uproar about it. My sister was delicate & all girl, we had nothing in common. ::) She was a whiz at jacks and loved her dolls & paper dolls.

Do you suppose everybody had those cherry & apple trees, we also had a pear tree... because they were left over from the farms. Our house was an old farm house, we moved at the end of WWII. There were no houses around. We had all kinds of berries & walnut trees, persimmon tree & even wild asparagus grew in the field out back. My mother was a pie maker, Dad's favorites were apple & cherry, but she made the best cream pies you ever tasted. Nobody every got her recipe right, by the time I asked for it she had forgotten exactly ... had to know what it looked like, to tell if it was right. I tested the same flavor in a French restaurant one time but when I went back the original bakers had sold & new people didn't have a clue how to make it. All I remember was she cooked about a dozen egg yolks in a double boiler.... and that's where I gave up, had to know the "look" when to take it off. My mother's gr-mother had a big influence on her since her mother died so young (Mom was 7)... I didn't like to eat when I was young but now & then I can taste something that rings a bell in my memory. I love going back to the county where my parents grew up, for the October fests. German & French little towns & quite a few of the people still fix the same foods their mothers & gr-mothers fixed. We have a little town NW of Wichita that some of those same families migrated to and I've been to their fund raiser meals that are truly the home made German sausages, coleslaw, pies, etc. Yum..

Must get to bed, 5:00 am rolls around pretty fast. I leave the house at 7:00 & will be gone longer than usual. After church & McDonald's I am going to stop & visit with my oldest gr-daughter & family from Seattle. They didn't want to get up early to meet us, their kids are 4 & 2, & hard to change time zones with little ones.

Good night, Every Friend... haha, Lloyd, I'll bet there won't be much sleeping in that house full of little girls!
