[Morning on Calm And Peaceful Waters At... War...

I awaken to yet another day...
I wonder if to-day, Perhaps ...
The pain I feel might just..
"Go away"?..

Why do I choose to watch T.V.?..
I know it will bring anguish to me..
I choose to push it all ...
"Aside".!..
Perhaps get on my horse and take a ride..
Then I remember how many died..

I want them back!..
But thats not to be...

Or at least allow them burial..With dignity..
A gentle breeze from in the trees..
Comes through the window..
And caresses me..
At this moment its all right to grieve..

I gaze out on calm waters of the Lake..
And wonder..How long will it take?
The Song Birds sing..
The mail goes by..
I sit and rock..And softly cry...

   Sunshine

When I woke up this morning
I found a ray of light
Shining through my window
To chase away the night...

I tried to wrap it up to send
The warmth and light to you...
But boxes don't hold sunshine
So this wish will have to do:

May the sun shine on your morning
And brighten every day,
May warmth and sunshine fill your life
And chase your cares away!

The Sleeper in the Valley

It is a green hollow where a stream gurgles
crazily catching silver rags of itself on the grass;
where the sun shines from the proud mountain:
it is a little valley bubbling over with light.

A young soldier, open-mouthed, bare-head,
his neck bathed in cool blue cress,
sleeps; he is stretched out on the grass, under the sky,
pale on his green bed where the light falls like rain.

His feet in the gladiolis, he sleeps. Smiling as
a sick child might smile, he has a nap:
cradle him warmly, Nature: he is cold.

No scent makes his nostril quiver;
he sleeps in the sun, his hand on his breast,
at peace. There are two red holes on his right side.

Oops, you swooped in with a new home for us, Bubble. My, such thought provoking sayings. Isn't it sad the world can't quit fighting. Always one more "war to end all wars".... Thank you for all your work, Bubble, we wouldn't survive without you.

Thanks, Rick, I'll give that a try first. When I put it away last time I really was not too happy with it, working only once! I had put up with that kitchen carpet for so long I decided to get the best cleaner they made (for home use). We never know what is ahead in less than 6 months! My life made a big change in 2013 & a roller coaster ever since, still going fairly good, struggle with the newer electronics.  ::) I still say all girls should learn how to fix things around the house and boys should learn how to cook & take care of what is usually called "women's work" so all can do whatever is necessary. Maybe in our next life.

Cats don't believe it's going to rain/storm so patting the door to go out. I hope to get some sleep tonight so will close them in the opposite end of the house from my bedroom. It has been winter cold with rain for several days & nights so they were tickled to wake up warm this morning. Was in the upper 80s today. Remember when old Arthur Godfrey used to remind us to drink our saffarass tea? If I remember right, had to dig young roots to boil. Thinned the blood, wonder what we are using now, Plavix?

Sweet dreams. Who was it talking about wild & crazy dreams since the quarantine? I've had my share, too.  :o

Good morning everyone.

I tolerated the robin singing for rain at 5.05 am, then the hammering woodpecker on the hydro pole.. Then a flock of geese decided to fly that close that I thought I should open the bedroom window for them it was time to get up. One way or another critters will get you up!

Today is take the garbage away , make a delivery and if it doesn't rain set up both trugs.  Would like to finish the one quilt and get onto another project.

Bubble, thank you for the new start page!! I agree with Shirley, sad that the world has to be at war..

Gloria, yes it did have a meringue on it and it WAS delicious!

Better get a long ..

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Good morning everyone, rained last night but today supposed to be sunny and 70, I can take that.

SHIRLEY  goodness you do more in one day than  I do in a year these days. I cannot keep my 3 rooms clean the way I want so a good thing I have Yvette to help me. There are things the CNA's cannot do, like moving furniture. I used to move it every week to clean behind and under, wonder how dusty it is behind them now.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new book  to fill up. Your second graphic is so sad but too true. I thank God all my family members survived the wars with only one being wounded. Good stories and the last one so sad, too. Brought tears to my eyes.

LLOYD  hope you slpt good last night.

SHIRLEY  I would rarther drink sassafras tea than take another pill. If I dream I am glad I do not remember any.

AMY  been a long time since I made a lemon meringue pie. As a kid I did not like the meringue but now love it.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Thanks for the new place, Bubble, and for the poetry.  Like it very much.

Roller coaster weather here....from cold to hot, from heat pump droning to air conditioner whirring.  It must be Spring in North Carolina.

I'm taking it pretty easy.  We had a "fly over" down low over the house last evening and that was sort of exciting. They were honoring the hospital workers so flew over 7 hospitals in the Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, and Durham area.  Our house is about half-way between a couple of the hospitals so they came right over us.  Low and loud.

Take care, All.

Good afternoon everyone, it is a fine sunny day here in Aberdeenshire.  I filled up the fat ball feeder and the fat slab feeder at 7.30am this morning and by 11am they had both been stripped - I am going to start rationing those crows. Luckily the home-made outer cage I created for the other fat ball feeder seems to be working, so the little birds are still getting something. And I saw a starling using my new bird bath.

Amy - the birds start up very early here too, and we have to have the bedroom windows open a bit now as otherwise it is just too hot. It's lovely to hear them but yes, it is EARLY. I remember when we lived out in the country with a field in front of the house in which sheep were often kept. As the mornings got lighter and lighter they would start up earlier and earlier, and they were so loud it used to drive me nuts. Once they had completed their dawn bleating they went silent again for hours, I could never work out why they did it really.

Shirley, you are so right - my father died very suddenly when I was 8 years old, my mother is quite practical but my father had standard 1950's ideas about men's and women's roles, so she had no experience of household repairs. The first time she had to change a plug (in the days when they didn't come as the sealed units they do now) she pushed it into the wall and we both ran away. (It was fine.)

Being widowed so young she just had to learn how to do it all, and she also had to find a job as she had no money - but she also had little education and no qualifications. She found work in the accounts department of an engineering firm in central London and stayed there for over 20 years Only since I had my own children can I appreciate how hard that must have been, rushing in on the train as soon as I was at school, rushing back, worrying about me being in the house by myself (I had no such worries, I loved it...). But on the other hand I think she benefited from being out in the world, working with a wide range of people of all ages - she became a lot more open-minded than some of my school friends' mothers who did not work. She had always wanted a proper education, and was frustrated at home - although the job didn't give her any certificates or exam passes, it did stimulate her mind much more than domesticity would have - that just was not right for her, any more than work outside the home was right for everyone.

Even after that experience, I am ashamed to say I still let my husband do most of the DIY around here. This is at least partly because he is such a perfectionist and if I did it, he'd probably do it again. My daughters take no notice - if, for example, he has not built their flatpack furniture after a few days they just get the electric screwdriver out and do it themselves. Madeleine has built bookshelves, a desk, etc for me/herself, and Anna once put together a whole set of IKEA bedroom furniture.

Last night we watched the second episode of The Real Marigold Hotel - it is a programme in which a group of older celebrities are taken to India for a few weeks, ostensibly to see if they would like to retire there (as the people do in the original film). Every series has different people in it - at the moment they include Henry Blofield (aged 80), a well-know cricket commentator, who is absolutely lovely, Barbara Dickson (aged 72 - Scottish singer) and Zandra Rhodes (aged 79 -very flamboyant fashion designer who actually turned out to be surprisingly normal and sensible), who are both great - but also Britt Ekland, who is awful, I never saw such an attention seeker, it is all me, me, me. They stay with a family, and do things like try traditional healers, attend yoga classes, go to Indian festivals, attend a cricket match (this was particularly touching, as all the elderly Indian men there had listened to Henry all their lives on the radio and TV and were as thrilled to meet him as he was to meet them), learn about Indian cookery, and generally experience life. It is surprising how well most of them fit in and adapt - I can't imagine finding it that easy myself, and it would be far too hot for me. I am such a home bird really, always glad to get back from holidays no matter how nice they were.

Today I am going to try to get some more seeds planted. This is a photo from my walk along the Dee - not sure if it will work, but fingers crossed:

I hope everyone has a good day,

I was setting here reading and trying to retain so I could try to make reasonable post, and bang a loud crash a little bird hit the door glass. It is laying on it's side breathing hard. I went over and set it up right and genitally petted it on the head and back. it sat still like with surprise. it finely moved on it's feet. i watched it for a few min. then I went back over and it went airborne and flew away. I hope it is alright. see you all later.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had a little rain overnight but right now the sun is shining and the temp is up to 70º heading for high of 80.  I think it might have been Spring in the middle of the night!

Mickie got me up very early this morning!  When she gets up that early I know there's a reason and she really did have to go out.  She made deposits from both end.  I think she ate something off the ground yesterday that didn't sit well in her stomach but she doesn't seem to be sick today.

I'm still working on putting things back together after the workers are gone.  I think it might take me the rest of my life!  I'm good for 1 - 2 hours at a time and then I give up!  I get 2, maybe 3 sessions a day depending on what else is hollering at me and what I find in the boxes.
And I have a whole room to empty out when I get the regular stuff sorted, cleaned and back in place.  But at least I have a bed for Frankie when the restrictions are lifted and we feel safe getting together.

Cathy's decided that she needs to make a trip to the Amish Store so I need to adjust my list and get it to her tonight.  She's going to try to be there when they open at 8.  She figures that's the best time for stocking and for a well cleaned store.

I almost lost this just now so I'm going to post and then maybe think of other things and come back.

I'm taking a chance and making a comment on your picture, ROSEMARY.  I loved it and I wish I'd been walking with you!

BUBBLE, I also enjoyed your offerings for our new hangout for the rest of the month!  They are all so true and so thought provoking!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share!

Good morning on this pretty sunny day

It is supposed to be up near 80 degrees today,  And, then another cool spell all next week.

I don't think that summer will ever get here.

Our Governor has lifted quite a few restrictions to happen today at 5 p.m.  Sure hope that doesn't bring more sickness to our area.  They are allowing a lot of stores and shops to open and the hotels at the beach can start taking reservations.   That is going to let a lot of people who are chomping at the bit to get to the ocean.

I have no plans to go anywhere and I have enough  food for a while, also.  I am just staying put and have a lot of new books to read.  I might go down and sit outside later today.  Right now, I am still in my night clothes.  If I do decide to sit out, then I will have to get dressed. Maybe after lunch.

Hope everyone is keeping well and getting along ok.

Good Morning,

I woke up just at sunrise this morning and decided to open the blinds and watch for "early birds" at the feeders. I did not expect to see a coyote loping across the back of the yard.  :o

We've had at least one coyote in the area around the pond and creek along the west side of the complex for a couple of years but I had never seen one around the houses. It looked as if it was heading "home" after a "night out" - not nosing around.

I went to Braum's yesterday and was the only one wearing a mask - including the clerks.  Not too sure how I feel about that but am noticing fewer people wearing them in the smaller stores.

Like Joy,  I have plenty of food and supplies so don't need to go around town for anything.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good Afternoon Everyone !

It is still Chilly here on the rocky
coast of Maine, but certainly not Winter
Chilly. more like Spring Chilly.

It is too bad that not everyone
is wearing face masks.    Here in
Portland Maine,  you must
be wearing face masks to ride the
buses or go into  the few store that
are open,  like drug  and
grocery stores.

I have been preparing to make some
face masks..  I have been doing  a lot
or research on YouTube and will let
my daughter Kelly critique them ,  before
starting to make a lot of them.

Mine will be plain and made out of 100% Cotton
Sheets..  Lot's of material to make lots
of Facemasks.

From what they are predicting we are in
for a very long haul of fighting
the Covid_19 Virus...

So I hope to  spend most of my time
sewing these masks to keep myself from going
completely bored and crazed out of my mind.

It is about all I can do to be of help
during this terrible time.

My family is very supportive of my
doing this... It is a big project for
me and right now I am getting my
apartment set up to start working
on it when all of my supplies
come in.

That is my story and I am sticking
to it!  LOL!

So far all is well here.. lonely
but well.

I seem to remember that in one of these forums, someone posted how you take the skin and bones from a rotisserie chicken, and cook them slowly to make stock.  I
knew if I didn't print it out then, I would forget it.  Well, someone tell me how much water, how long to simmer it.  I have the bones and skin all separated, ready to start.  Someone help please.   Part of the story:  My Kroger had a special 2/$10.00 on the chickens, so I bought two, and took the other one to my neighbor who lives alone and does not (IMHO) eat very much, other than soups.  Anyway, she was going to make a chicken salad for supper, and I would like to provide her with the instructions for making the broth/stock with the remnants.

We did get one trug set up with peat moss and dirt and the other one, the bigger one just has the peat moss in it. Rain decided that we  should head indoors..and we did:) Finished of the quilt and just need to bag it up to go. This one has Micky Mouse on it and a fun quilt to do.

Tomereader, I don't measure, just cover the bones with water and let simmer..strain and put broth in fridge to let the fat separate and take it off in the morning.

Sandy, have fun doing the masks. My machine wasn't too happy with the pleats but we did get it done. Some folks prefer the masks with ties, others with elastic and some just around the ears others around the head.

Will go check on the smaller trug and see how far the dirt is down due to the rain.

Good afternoon everyone. I have been setting out on the deck watching the humming birds. and a bird I have never seen one like it before that i reamber
it had a light orange breast and was a little larger than a sparrow. it was robbing a meal out of the humming feeder. the humming birds are not afraid of us they come eat with you setting just a few feet away.the other bird with the orange  breast fley into the glass in the door and knocked its self out.was laying on its side breathing hard. I went out and set it on its stomach and stroked it genital on its head and back it seamed to like that for a bit but in short order it got up on it's feet and made a few hopes and then went airborne. the humming birds are just like children just jump on and dive bomb each other. Have a good rest of the day.

Nancy and I put a chicken in the crock pot and cook it off of the bones. then we make  home made egg noodles. role out and cut the dough. cut it about 3/4 inch wide and 6" long . we strain the the broth off,and put the noodles and the meet in it and cook well done. you can also do same thing with a chicken and the broth and spoon drop dumpling's in it. make mashed patois and spoon the over it. have a rest of the day good.

Should do some baking today...hmm..

Jane , the beauty of all your hard work will so for a long time. Just think ,you can set back and enjoy summer!

Lloyd, glad you got to the bird before a cat!

Joy, too many folks are chomping at the bit here and I sure hope it doesn't set them back.

Rosemary, we live between two lakes and at times the birds fly so low you can hear the wind in their wings!

Better get ready to go out...

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be a short one because the boinger already went and Mickie is being good about waiting for breakfast.

I just had a text from Cathy telling me to stay available in case she has any questions about my list when she gets to the Amish Store.  Isn't technology great!  I used to run to the store down the street for my mother and she never knew what an 8-year old might bring back even when she told me EXACTLY what she wanted.  Sometimes I think she also called Clyde and told him to watch what I got.

I'm also in a fly path for the ducks and geese with the river on one side and a pond suitable for spending the night and surrounded by farms good for feeding on the other side.  Lots of geese right now.

I guess I better go feed Mickie so we can get a walk in before the groceries come.  Enjoy your day and don't forget to share.

Good Morning everyone.well I think the humming birds must eat around the clock.
I went out to check there feeder and it was bone dry. I got it and brought it in and filled it. did not take them but just a minute to hit it. and some other intruders also.there was a bird about the size of a sparrow with a light orange head and breast was on it. but one of the humming birds Sean it and dive boomed it and it left in a hurry. they sure pay there way in pleasure. a sparrow stopped by also did not take the humming bird long to show it's way by either.
see you all later,Nancy called morning is ready ( yummy Pancakes with blue berry sauce on them.

Good morning everyone, we did not get the bad storm the weather guessers said we would get last night, thunder and a chance of tornado. We did get some heavy rain though and fell asleep with it hitting the windows.  Two mornings in a row I woke at a reasonable time, 6:30, much better than 3 or 4 am.

PHYLLIS  they have been having those flyovers around the country, even here in "Little Rhody" the nick name for this state.

ROSEMARY  lovely picture, I would love to walk along there.

LLOYD  the rain last night did not cool it off here, already 59. I will be going outside today I hope. I was afraid after that rain it would be cold again.

JANE  we do gather things around us when we live in one place for years. If you had to move you would really find out what you want to keep. Might be a good thing there is not much storage place here.

JOY  I hope it does not get too hot here too soon. I need to get a new AC and it will not be another portable one.  The manager told me when I moved here that was what I had to get. So that was what I got and it never really kept it cool enough for me. I have not been away from here since New Year's day and I would love to get away for a few hours. Need a change of view.

CALLIE  I have a full freezer but  with my lack of appetite nothing tempts me.

SANDY  good luck making the masks. If I had a sewing machine I would try making some, too.

AMY  my oldest granddaughter made me a mask but it goes around my head and that bothers me so do not use it, I rather have it around my ears. I have seen some ads for them and I am thiniing of sending for some, cloth ones that can be washed, not the disposable ones.

LLOYD  we had humming bird feeders onn the fron porch and we all enjoyed watching them but the witch of a manager made tha one who put it up take it down. Said it made a mess. We were enjoying them too much for her.

JANE  go slow sorting what you have. It will be waiting fo you when you are more rested.

PHYLLIS  hope you are feeling well.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Hello everyone

It is a mixed sort of day here - cloudy one minute and sunny the next. My husband wants to paint the balcony (again..) and can't decide whether to or not, so I am waiting till he's decided before I pot up the seeds I hope to keep in the mini greenhouse. It feels very humid and close, I think a downpour might clear the air.

Last night we watched an interesting programme about the photographer Lee Miller. Some years ago now, I went to a talk by her son Anthony Penrose, who these days spends his life curating the collection of her work at Farley Farm in Sussex, where she and Roland Penrose lived after the war. He is a very good speaker, and quite honest about his childhood, during which Miller was largely absent or drunk (he was brought up by a nanny.) She never spoke about her war experiences, or the fact that she had been raped at the age of 7, so it was only after her death that he began to understand why she had ended up the way she did. She was the first photographer, with David Scherman, to enter Dachau when it was liberated, and they later went to Hitler's old apartment, where she famously took a bath and slept in his bed. Penrose believes she suffered PTDS for the rest of her life as a result of what she saw and experienced in the war, and especially at the concentration camp.

The crows are still stripping the feeders as fast as I fill them, so I am thinking of trying to construct another cage round the second feeder. I had bought a ground feeding tray for the blackbirds, but our neighbour is getting into such a tizzy about the visiting rat (which has never entered her garden) that I don't feel I can put anything at ground level just now. I do long for the day when we can move to somewhere with no near neighbours! In the meantime this neighbour's mother was round again this morning, breaking lockdown rules to visit her grand-baby. Hey ho, we must live and let live I suppose :)

We walked by the river again last evening, it was beautiful, and not too many people around at all. Gloria, I wish I could magic you here so you could walk with me. We saw a female mallard duck swimming around, and I was just wondering why she was alone when out from some reeds appeared her six little ducklings, and they all sailed off along the water - they were so sweet. The heron was also standing in the shallows, waiting patiently.

When I cam upstairs just now David said 'SO what are you going to do now?'- I do not have his work ethic, but I suppose I'd better achieve something before dinner time....so far all I have done is make (and eat) date and walnut scones, clean the bathrooms and feed the birds.

Have a good day all,

Rosemary

Shirley - Yesterday - ": :) I still say all girls should learn how to fix things around the house and boys should learn how to cook & take care of what is usually called "women's work" so all can do whatever is necessary. Maybe in our next life. ". It's happening now. Due to the way I grew up I've learned to do it all, - and still am.

Lloyd, that is an Oriole, beautiful bird, black, orange. Loves sweet nectar.
There are regular oriole feeders that have larger opening than a hummers feeder.

Lloyd, those are Orioles, beautiful orange, black beautiful bird, love the nectar in the hummers feeders...hang on them like monkeys :O)
They do make oriole feeders, that have larger feeding hole in them.

A  late night post just to say HELLO.  I managed to just delete not only my post written in notes, but a whole page of information I have had for years.  It always amazes me that one movement my "happy fingers" can be so devastating😩😢

Happy to see our nice new page to post on, BUBBLE.  Thank you for all the nice poems.

I hope you all have a good night of rest.

Good morning everyone...

My muscles are telling me I am awake but I don't wanna be!! Oh well this too shall pass..all the hard work is done for now. I was so tuckered that we had breakfast for supper last night...bacon and eggs!

Going to be an awesome day here weather wise...I even beat the lil woodpecker up!! He wasn't tapping on the hydro pole but a 4x4  in our fence so that is telling us that need to check them out.

Today is a day of rest.....so sewing/playing it is :)

Phyliss, hope you are feeling much better.

Shirley ,where are you?

Jenny, your avatar is so sweet, my how he is growing!

Mycheal, along with the feeders one can cut an orange in half and the orioles will come to them. My friend emailed me yesterday her words were  .. (went shopping  for some oranges for my orioles (an essential trip!!)

Gloria, my friend had a portable air conditioner and she enjoyed it. Easy to move and use.

Joy hope all is well on your end.

Better scoot...

Enjoy your day everyone..

I'm doing OK, Amy.  Thanks for thinking about me.  Hope the stiff muscles have loosened up a little bit by now.  We had breakfast for dinner last night, as well, pancakes and bacon.  Good and easy!

It has turned hot and humid.  More like late spring in N.C.  The tropical storm, Arthur, is supposed to give us some rain during the up-coming week but we won't get the wind that the coast will get.  It doesn't sound as though it will be too much of a problem.  The rip tides are already a problem.  Two little girls were caught yesterday but were luckily rescued.  The rip tides off of the Outer Banks are really treacherous and people tend to underestimate their threat.

Rosemary, we drove along Deeside out to Balmoral on a beautiful day.  What a lovely trip.  We didn't go as far as Aberdeen.  I was surprised to find that the castle wasn't as big as I had expected.  We didn't spend long at the castle itself...we preferred to enjoy the countryside.

Take care, All.

Good morning Everfriend! Frankie came over yesterday for a visit and she ended up spending the night.  She's gone now because she had to go to work at noon.  I truly enjoyed having her here and she needed some family.

I'm taking today off because I think I overdid things yesterday.  I was really tired the last two nights when I went to bed but I got 4 boxes of books packed up for the library book sale if the they have it this summer and three more boxes of kids books to send to OK for Emma and her soon to be brother.  Once they're gone, that bedroom will actually resemble  bedroom again.  Then I can start on the back room which mostly resembles an attic or some other out of the way storage area.  My plan is to have it cleaned out by Christmas with only the shelves of canned goods and jars and other canning equipment and the boxes of Christmas decorations.  It makes me tired just to think of it.

Mistress AMY, way up there, How does your garden grow!  You are so BUSY all the time!

PHYLLIS, I'm glad you're feeling better.

I didn't have breakfast for supper last night.  I had LUNCH!  The other half of the hoagie that Cathy brought me from the Amish store.  It was just as good as the first half that I ate for lunch.  And it was a lot less work than cooking.  And Frankie brought her own supper with her.  We have really different ideas of what a good supper is!

I'm off to do a little more NOTHING with my day!  Someday, I think I'll write a book on how to do NOTHING.  I'm really pretty good at it!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share it with you loving, caring friends!

Good morning,

Thought I'd check in while I'm waiting at the computer for the Facebook church service to begin.

Looks as if everyone has been a lot busier than I have - as usual.  ;) I can't reach the shelves that need to be cleaned off and family is "otherwise occupied" these days.

Miss Emily is studying for Board Exams and will be going back to KS after Memorial Day because the college clinic will open.  Her classes will still be on-line but the main part of these final two trimesters is working with clients in the clinic so she needs to be "on site".

"Mama" (#1 dil) has the rest of the family who's home busy with planting a garden and other home projects.  She's good at that!

#2 DIL had her 4th back surgery on Friday.  It had been 9 years since the last one and the "hardware" holding her discs in place had begun to lose effect on the other discs.  Surgeon removed and replaced the old "hardware", repaired a couple of other discs and removed a cyst that had been pressing on the nerves in her back.  The cyst did not show up on any of the MRIs she'd had. (What?!? that "miracle machine" failed?  :o  I thought being made to lie still while enclosed in a small cylinder as it clanks along your body found Every Problem Imaginable! <she said cynically>)

Report yesterday morning was that she had walked the halls and was sitting in a chair - so all seems to have gone well.
She had the surgery at a Spine Hospital so no "sick" people were around and son is able to come and go during the day.

I did make a hamburger/noodle casserole last evening.  Finally used up the few noodles left in a package that's been on my pantry shelf since "who knows when".  Had a good helping for dinner and then divided the rest into two ramekins for me and the rest in a foil pan for #2 son to pick up at some point.

Oops - am late for church.  CUL8R

Well, do you know how hard it is to do NOTHING.  First, I sat at the table and tried to "do nothing".  But I found myself first sitting, and the sitting and reading the paper, and then sitting and doing the crossword puzzle.  So I came into the office and first off, I sat down in the chair.  There goes the NOTHING!  Then I looked up some stuff on the computer, wrote down some phone numbers for tomorrow, checked my email, checked in on S&F and spent 15 minutes talking to Frankie.  Then Mickie was ready for a walk and it very hard to do NOTHING while you walk with a doggie.

This afternoon after lunch, I decided to try again and first off, I found myself sitting on the sofa.  There goes NOTHING!  Then I decided it was time for another walk with Mickie.  There goes more NOTHING!  And when I got back, I took up residence on the sofa again.  And I woke up 2 and a half hours later after sleeping away more of my NOTHING.

I've decided that trying to do NOTHING is a lost cause!  There's no way to just do NOTHING.  You can avoid certain jobs and do things that you enjoy instead.  But there's no way to "just do NOTHING! Mostly because even when you accomplish doing NOTHING, you're still doing SOMETHING!  You just call it NOTHING instead.   And that's my final word on that subject.  If anyone thinks different, I'd be happy to hear it!

I've been, read & got side tracked a number of times today. Before I forget again, my neighbor across the street has Baltimore Orioles behind their house, she asked me to feed them when they were going to be gone for a week. Has a feeder hanging on a post just high enough so I could reach and she fills it with grape jam!!! Just sort of glass dish with a wire holder. They are so pretty, now & then see one on this side but they know where the cats live. We used to see them before cats moved in. Their nest is like a little woven hanging bag.

I weed whipped the berm & around some young trees, my lawn guys don't do that...or rather they tend to cut into the tender trunks so I'm protecting them. Need to shower, feel buggy & know my hair is full of grass/weeds from the berm.

Nice to hear how everyone is doing... and the families. I'm not sure that our families realize just how much everyone in here means to each other, like good friends that lived next door long ago. Sweet dreams to all, in case I don't get back in tonight. God Bless.

Thank you, AMY, for noticing the new picture of my boy❣️  Yes he is growing like crazy and it sure is nice to have him here close enough to see at least once a week.  Happy you were able take take the day off and give your bones a rest.  😘

JANE, I am happy your day of trying to do NOTHING is over for you😘

SHIRLEY, sounds like you had a busy day.....hope you had a chance to rest up a bit after your shower🥰

Rick, reading back over posts I keep forgetting to mention how lucky your wife is that you can fill in when she has a problem. My father never cooked when we were growing up but I knew he did some of the cooking when he & half a dozen men went deer or antelope hunting. He told about how they all added pepper to the chili until so hot they were sweating in freezing temps. But when Mother got sick the last few years he did the daily cooking, along with what my sister took them and when I went I always took food. The last 2 years she lived we moved about 100 miles away so I could "run down" for the day to help. My sons help quite a bit, doing those "man" jobs, but I try hard to not bother them, they have their own houses & families to take care of.

When my kids were growing up they did whatever needed doing around the house & I expected/hoped my daughter would be able to earn as good of a living as my sons. She certainly got that right, along with raising 4 kids. She is the one that fixes the wiring or replaces the inside of the commodes.. and now that she is retired with that "golden parachute" can afford to hire the work done & flies off to baby sit her grands. Her husband doesn't have any hobbies so doesn't plan to retire any time soon, but like you, he can cook & did a lot of taking care of the kids when they were young. My husband didn't cook at all, but he sure liked to eat! He could repair anything but didn't wash dishes, do laundry or any of the "women's work". We actually made a good team, he gave orders and I took them!  ;D

Jenny, I'm hoping things will open up by the time we head west, concerned about "no fires" at the campgrounds. We can do without but the "boys" love a fire in the evening. Besides, we go into Buena Vista, Salida or the Mt.Princeton lodge for lunch nearly every day...but NOT for carry out! If the campgrounds open we will go and do whatever is necessary. I noticed how big and grown up Jonah is in the new pic. So glad they are back in CO. Andy's daughter whose job was abolished, found a new one as project engineer starting tomorrow so Andy & wife will be baby sitting their grands full time until schools & pre kindergarten open up. The other gr-parents had been sharing the job but are exposed to the world so not being able to "touch" the kids for a while yet. We have a lot of cases in this county so everyone taking the quarantine seriously.

Well, I'm rambling & should be in bed. Had a nap today and trouble falling asleep without my coffee. I quit when I was sick about 3-4 weeks ago and not willing to try drinking just yet. I got out the Postum, ever hear of that?  I'm drinking the coffee flavor & not too bad. My mother never drank coffee so that was her choice.

Amy, did you get your garden planted?  I would love to put out some tomato plants but too late already. I started the seeds in Jan. & put plants out by St.Patrick's Day, Burpee Big Boys & Early Girls... had tomatoes until mid Nov most years. Don't have yard space at this house.

Back to bed... Wishing all a Merry Monday (good night, Callie).

Good morning everyone, after a few nights with good sleep last night not good. Too warm even with 2 fans going all night. No sunshine yesterday, good thing, or I really would have suffered with the humidity we had. Enough complaining from me.

ROSEMARY would love to walk with you but would be hard using my rollator on rough ground.

JANE  I know you would love that walk with different things to see. Alas my long walks are over. My kids and I used to love walking through the woods in back of our house. Today might run into a coyote or a black bear in those woods. Of course these days we have a lot of deer, too. I remember when anyone saw a deer  they had to tell everyone.

LLOYD  my daughter tried the sourdough bread starter and did not like it. Lot of work and she likes the sourdough bread.

JENNY  you are not the only one with a slip of a finger can delete something you want to keep. Your little one is growing fast, and is so cute.

AMY  more than once after a hard day at work I had cereal for my supper. I could not move the portable I have but it never cooled this apartment. Get the hot sun in the afternoon till the sun sets, too hot for me.

JANE  hope you had a long restful sleep last night.

CALLIE  I have been in that tube a few times and the noise was worse that laying still.

JANE  I chuckled with your doing Nothing post last evening.Even sleeping we are doing something.

SHIRLEY  wish I gad just a little of your energy. I have about enough to make my morning coffee and breakfast and do nothing much the rest of the day. Like you I dislike having to ask my sons to do anything for me but they tell me I did a lot for them when they were yound and it is payback time now.

Have a good day and stay safe.

I forgot to say every thing is nice and green and flowers bloomed out good every where Irises and lilies and lot of other wield flowers that God put on the Sean. there is one wield flour that grows about two foot tall and has blooms on branches from top to bottom and is lavender in color. we have had a fat little mouse running around the house, but it got too handy at stalling the cheese off of the traps with out tripping them, but his luck ran out last night GOT it. so in the trash basket he went to be burnt today. see you all later.

Good morning everyone...

Robins singing for rain at the moment, hope to hang laundry out so we shall see.
Yesterday was a lazy day.Jane I did do NOTHING for about 1 1/2 hours....slept like a log!!

Later in the evening the man came to pick up his trug and ordered another one for Kyle to make.

Today will pick up some plants, now that I know they are in stock at the store. One store that I normally get my plants is not selling them this year. While out will pick up an umbrella for our patio table too.

Shirley, no seeds in the ground yet, soil too cold still. I did put some in pots ready to transplant when the ground is ready. Tue ,Wed and Thur are suppose to get warm here. I did notice ice hanging on the rock cliff yesterday but soon it will be gone.

Better get

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I did sleep better last night than I have in a while!  I feel pretty good this morning.  We'll see what the day brings.

JENNY, your little guy is sure growing up fast.  I bet you're delighted to have him closeby for a while.

AMY, Cindy (out in Texas where it's warmer) sent me pictures of pumpkin plants poking their noses out of the ground!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Also wanted to tell you that while you were sleeping, you were NOT doing NOTHING.  You were SLEEPING.  It's nearly impossible to to actually do NOTHING.

GLORIA, you were supposed to laugh at that "doing nothing" entry.  You have a good sense of humor!

We have 4 minutes until the boinger and Mickie is already telling me it's time for breakfast.  So it's time to wish you all a lovely day.  Make it your own in every way.

And don't forget to share it with all of us!

Good morning everyone.

I didn't get to post yesterday as my husband was sorting out a lot of problems with my laptop. I think he has now fixed it but of course as a result all of my bookmarks have disappeared and I am having to find my passwords for all the sites I had remained logged into for years.  Still, I am very glad to have him around to address these tech problems, as I have not got a clue about them.

Jane - you are of course more than welcome to walk along the Dee with me at any time! Yesterday I was so busy with gardening, then we did a big supermarket shop late afternoon, so I didn't even get a walk - it's only about the second day I have missed one since I came up to Deeside in mid-March. I wilkl rectify that today and do my longer walk.

So I have now sowed more seeds - some (borage, night scented stock, poppies) straight into the ground, as per the packet instructions, so I just hope I remember where they are, and also that the wood pigeons don't get them. The others - morning glory and parsley - I have started in small peat pots in the greenhouse. I also planted out more geraniums and other bedding plants, plus an anemone and an aubretia that I had found on B & Q's sale table - hopefully they will come back next spring. My husband bought two massive ceramic tubs in Aldi to put on our sitting room balcony, but as yet I don't have any plants to put in them - I'll have to have a think about that. When we lived out in East Lothian we had a similar balcony in the bedroom - I put out two tubs with blueberry bushes in them , and the wind came along and snapped each one in half. Not quite so windy here, but I'll still have to be careful.

To placate our other neighbours we moved our bird feeders to tree branches overhanging the river rather than the garden. This morning I noticed that the seed one had disappeared - went out to look and it is of course now IN the river. Husband is going to try to make a hook to fish it out.

Phyllis - I am glad you enjoyed Deeside. It is many years since I was at Balmoral itself, I don't think we even went to see the rooms that are open, we just enjoyed the beautiful grounds.

Not sure if I already mentioned that when we were out walking on Saturday evening we saw a red kite?  I was thrilled - I have seen one around before, but not often. They were reintroduced here a few years ago having been hunted almost to extinction - at the time there were just a few living in Wales. They are now a protected species - although unfortunately I have read that illegal killings of birds of prey have increased a great deal since the lockdown.

Gloria - I do hope you sleep better tonight. Even here it feels humid and sticky to me, and it is only 16C (not sure what that is in Farenheit - maybe 60F?).  Lots of people have been trying to make sourdough here, but it looks like an enormous faff to me - I do like to eat it, but there is plenty of bread of all kinds in the shops.

I wonder if it is all this forced staying home that is making me more tired - in Edinburgh I am up by 7 and at work before 9, leave there around 2 (am only paid to 12.30 but there is always so much to do), maybe do shopping on the way home, then when I get in I am usually doing reviews or house chores or something until I make dinner in the evening. And I rarely turn out the light till around 12. Here I am staying in bed till 10 (reading - still awake before 7), and by 10pm I am exhausted!

Grandparents here have been specifically told that they cannot mind grandchildren just now - also we are not supposed even to visit houses that are not our own homes, though the grandmother of our neighbours' baby has been round several times. I think it is because people aged 70+ are deemed high risk, and we are told all the time that the most important thing is to protect the NHS and do all we can to prevent it being overwhelmed and unable to cope. However, the English government is now very keen for primary schools to reopen on 1st June - this is very blatently a child care issue, as parents cannot work if young children are at home, but the teachers are very unhappy about being exposed to risk, and I can't say I blame them. The government has not said anything about senior schools, - which makes it even more obvious that the whole thing is about getting parents working, as parents of older children would not be hampered by them being at home.  Here in Scotland our First Minister has said that it is almost certain that our schools will not re-open till after the summer (though they remain open for the children of key workers and for those deemed 'vulnerable' - usually those who have a social worker owing to serious problems in their home life).

Yesterday I was in touch with a friend who is a senior nurse in the city hospital. She is normally in charge of orthopaedics but she has been moved to take charge of renal care, which she is enjoying. It sounds like things aren't too bad in this city, but it is hard to tell as the official figures only cover regions, and in Scotland a 'region' can cover a huge area with several different population centres and a large rural community.

Callie - I do hope your daughter-in-law continues to improve. Our doctors here are tring to impress on people that anyone with a serious worry about non-virus issues should still call them, and should not stay away because they think the doctors are too busy or that they will catch the virus if they have to go to the surgery.  It seems very few people have been calling their GP or going to A & E at the hospital. I don't think the GPs are actually too busy, as they are trying to have all initial appointments over the phone. Someone I know had to call them and she said her GP was very thorough and took great care to discuss her symptoms and prescribe something appropriate.

Can't believe it is already half past twelve here - I had better get on.

Have a good day all,

Rosemary

Cloudy and humid this morning so I guess that means the storm is getting closer to the N.C. coast.  Still forecast to stay east of us so we will likely only get rain several days this week.

I made my on line grocery order and David will pick that up on Tues. around lunch time.  I hope that I can get most of what I have asked for but we shall see what appears in the bags.  I think things are easing a little bit and the supplies are getting somewhat better.  Still some shortages on some items but we are managing.  Some retail stores have re-opened under certain restrictions but some places (barber shops, salons, etc.) are still closed.  And, oh gosh, do I need a haircut!  I have relied almost entirely on online delivery and have received nearly everything that I have ordered.  I've had to do a lot of searching on some things but have been pretty lucky.

Yesterday I made biscuits for Sunday brunch from flour I had gotten from an old flour mill here in NC that has been milling grain since the 1760's.  I ordered their Southern Style biscuit mix even though it was really pricey.  It was worth the cost!  The flour was so velvety to the touch and the biscuits were beautiful and tasted wonderful.  We loved them and I MAY order the mix again.....when I win the lottery!

Laundry day today so I must get my breakfast and get on with the business of the day.

Merry Monday,

Son texted about an hour ago that dil is home and "sleeping in the recliner. The dogs are happy again."  I replied, ..and so am I!"

The surgery was done at the Spine Hospital so there weren't any "sick" patients there. Son had to wait in the car until she was in the operating room and then was "escorted" to that waiting room.  He was allowed to come/leave to her room twice during visiting hours so stayed most of the day on Saturday. All went well. He said he stayed home long enough to mow the lawn on Sunday.

Casserole is in the freezer and I made a blueberry dump cake this morning to go with it. He says he will come get it today.

The cottonwood "cotton" was so heavy yesterday that it looked as if it had snowed in my back yard this morning. Biggest issue is that the cotton gets stuck on the a/c coils and, last summer, caused the unit to freeze (literally ice on the coils).  Had to wait until that thawed before techs could get it going.

Surely don't want that to happen again but I don't feel able to shove the trellis planters around and hose it off. So other son is coming this afternoon to take care of that.

Off to get some Domestic Duties taken care of and divide the dump cake in case both sons are here at the same time.  ;)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Supper's in the oven and as soon as the beeper goes, we're having our evening meal.  Got some things done today and was blocked on some by "we're still closed" messages.

Cathy has been doing my shopping and I've had yeast on the list for several weeks now.  Yesterday, she came home with a little jar of dry yeast for me.  It almost felt like Christmas!  Tomorrow, If I can find the recipe, there will be fresh bread in this house!

OOPS!  There goes the beeper!  I better get moving!  Loved all the posts today and ROSEMARY, the next time you take that walk, I'll be there if only in spirit.  Thanks for the invitation!

Here to say "Good Night" to all. Got the RV started & to Walmart & new battery put in. All went well, those puppies do cost a bunch & when spending that much may as well add a little to it & get the best. Should last as long as I keep it. Got it home & put jacks down & awning out to dry the under side, can't figure why it is getting wet so hope to do that later this week. Will pick up my new lens tomorrow & hope they fit better, if they do I will get another pair made with a dark tint for sun. Still have to have cataract surgery later in the fall, but not with that hard headed doctor before! Scared me and I'm fearless! I'll bake a batch of brownies to take the girls that were so nice last time I was in.

Had lots of huge fish come tonight, they really do start splashing the water before I toss bread in, so it is the whistle that they hear & come to. The weeds are growing so fast with the rain, will have to take the "weed whip" down again soon. Have some trees, maple & nice little cottonwood that are the right size to transplant. Not sure I need any more in the yard, got to get the sprinkler system fixed, couple of the heads have sand in them but one along the driveway was run over by vehicle... the person typing is probably guilty, but hard to see with ice on the edge, honestly! I really don't like yard work but don't want to pay someone for what I can do. I did trim around the little trees in their defense, the mowers get a little rushed when trimming.

Callie, glad to hear the surgery went okay. Had a call from my brother-in-law while ago, he just heard from his doctor that removed cancer inside his ear recently, that he goes back in day after tomorrow for more surgery and skin graft this time. He is resigned to always having more, the area was contaminated all through the years and he also had radiation on his face as a teen. Sadly the southern diet of so much grease brought on much of his problems. Lots of things we did not know about caused problems later in life. Best food I ever tasted but after a week we always came home with "zits" on the face! How I would love to taste her melt in the mouth biscuits again!  She churned fresh butter all the time so picture a pat of butter melting as the whole bite melts in your mouth (honestly, like cotton candy). I brought home same flour & everything but never came out like hers. Yum...

Better get to bed, couldn't go to sleep last night, lack of coffee, what can I say?  Do have to get things moving. AC man comes the 22nd so need to clear a path through the ironing room in the basement, I start sorting what to get rid of & side tracked, mixed stuff up & have to start all over. I think I put an inch around the middle with doing "NOthING but eating" (you are right, Jane, even just sitting is still sitting & not "nothing".)  I was thinking sleep at 8:00 pm and here it is, 10:40 & I am still up. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Oops, you snuck in, Jane & Lloyd. Close your eyes, have nice dreams, no running or searching for things in your sleep.

Good morning everyone, here I am at 2am. Wonder how many naps I will get today. Yesterday I laid on the couch at 9:30 and woke just before my phone rang at noon and Yvette was here. At 2 when she left I was on the couch again and woke at 4:30. Had time to get ready for my daily chat with my daughter. At 8 last night was in bed, could not keep my eyes open.

LLOYD  if I had a mouse in here I would have a fit. Hate those critters but still better than a big rat. The purple Iris here is blooming now but still many waiting to bloom in different colors.

AMY  still a couple of weeks here before my sons start tilling their gardens.

JANE  if my sense of humor goes away I hope it isn't till I take my last breath. In this place there are only a couple that one can joke with and get some laughs. Most are too serious, don't know if it is the age or what but darn if I will be that serious.
Your post last evening made me think of an old song. "busy doing nothing, trying to find lots of things not to do." I don't remember much more of it.

AMY  Don't hear many birds here, maby some crows at times.

ROSEMARY  I seent you a PM, hope it is helpful for you. I know here doctors cancelled all visits and will do phone talks if needed. My doctor, dentist and eye doctor cancelled all appointments. Th car service I use has cancelled all rides, too. I can no longer drive so have no car.

PHYLLIS  for the last 2 days we had no sun but it has been too warm and humid. I wish I could have my AC in alr eady but rules are not till mid June-managers rule. Heck we pay our own electricity not those who own the building. I have had 2 fans going full time. Supposed to be cooler tomorrow and some sunshine. I gaveup trying to make biscuits from scratch years ago. Never came out light and fluffy like my Mom's did. My daug ht er makes them like the grandmother she is named for, my Mom.

CALLIE  glad your DIL is hoe and doing good. Must have been a long tiring day for you son to stay at the hospital. What kind of dump cake did you make. First time I had a chocolate one I was at a  brother's home and his wife made it while I watched and was surprise at how it tur ned out. So many different dump cakes to make.

JANE  do you have a bread machine or make it the old way with all the kneading?

SHIRLEY  my Mom seldom fried anything, being a Yankee she made many boiled dinners, like at St Pat's day and baked a lot. In the winter with the big iron stove on for heat the oven was always warm/hot.

I think the couch calling me already. Maybe I can get a couple of hours more of the missing sleep.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept pretty well the last half of the night.  The first part was full of weird dreams...the kind that wake you up and keep you moving but you can't remember in the morning.

Mickie's been out and I pulled a few weeds while I waited for her to take care of business and now we're waiting for the boinger but I have to get out there and make dog food before I can feed her when it's time.

So I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with your friends!

Good morning everyone.
Yesterday was a fun filled day and a tiring one also. Managed to get both trugs planted and two of the flower beds planted with geraniums. Laundry blew out on the line  while I was playing in the dirt. :)  Kyle has a screen that he used when doing cement to screen the lumps out of the sand so I used that for the bags of lumpy soil. Soil felt like velvet when I planted the seeds and some plants.

Taking Kyle to pick up more material for another trug this morning and I am going to till up the rest of the garden. Not sure if it will get planted with the vine crops or not.

Better move it..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Tropical Storm Arthur is off the N.C. coast but heading out to sea.  However, it is giving us some rain today so it is gloomy.  David will have to dodge the rain drops to pick up the groceries later on toward noon.

Not sure what I will find to do other than household laundry.  I'm thinking about cooking something but not sure what I am in the mood to make or to eat.

Glad you found some yeast, Jane.

Take care, All.

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYFRIEND 🦋

It is another hot one in the Mile High City again today, so Bob has cleaned and turned on our A/C.  It does feel nice in here.

I have finished making a macaroni salad for our dinner.  The food truck is to be here tonight and we are just buy a bit of their sliced brisket and pork, rather than the sandwich with tater tots....of which I do not care much for!

It was so beautiful out on the deck this morning......my little fountain is up and running and I just love to sit out there and listen to it and watch the birds and wildlife around me.  We have a nice Sonos Speaker thatBob set up for me and played some beautiful music.....I was a happy girl🥰

AMY, so pleased to read that Kyle is making more trugs....I would happily buy one or two from him if it were possible.  Your burn is probably a combo of sun and wind....yes, ya gotta keep that sunscreen on😘

PHYLLIS, happy the tropical storm is headed out to sea....I hope you only get a good rain from it and no damage.

GLORIA, good for you for listening to your body....when you need sleep you just have to go with it.....sure glad your old bag of a manager doesn't control our A/C, or heat for that matter....when you need one or the other you should be able to have it!

SHIRLEY, glad you got the new battery installed on the motor home....little by little you will be ready to ROLL when the time comes.  If we can just get some rain around here maybe they w8ll lift the fire pit restrictions!  Camping isn't camping without a nice camp fire!

Thank you for all the nice comments about my Jonah Boy.  He is growing so quickly and I never thought he could get any cuter but by golly he seems to.

CALLIE, happy the DIL is home and doing well after the back surgery.  Thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

I thought I left a post earlier today but guess I forgot to hit the "POST" button. :-[

Peter, good to see you, been quite a while. Hope whatever the problem was is over with!!!  It seems something new goes wrong with "old bodies" about as often as with the cars or RVs. Too bad we can't roll in a new body.... jack up the eyebrows & "wa-la", no dents or aches & pains!

My new glasses got in so I baked a batch of brownies, stuffed them full of walnuts and took them to the office. The "girls" welcomed them (still warm) and every single person in the offices had a mouth full as I left. Hope the new glasses do the trick, it is not so much a problem with the cataracts as it is getting the right fit on glasses. I am amazed how well I can see out of each eye, but still a strain using both eyes. Enough about that, just a bump in the road.

Gloria, I've given up trying to get a full night sleep, lucky to get 4 or 5 hours before cats wake me up either wanting in or out (or I wake up looking for them.) Like when raising kids, when they are out you sleep with one eye open. So I try to find time to sleep either right after breakfast or later in the afternoon.

The wisteria blooms are getting bigger, another couple days & I will drive across/around to the other side of the river so see if it shows & take pictures if it does. Supposed to start raining Thursday & looks like days of it, so want to get photos before they fade away. I really do have to get down to weed whip those weeds again, goodness how they have grown! Had a whole crowd of fish tonight, and one goose flew over and came on up the bank for a hand out. Those fish put up a good fight for the bread! Might have to get out the bug spray, think the sand fleas are up & about. Other years I spray the boots I wear down & seems to keep them away, guess time to put the spray bottle by the boots!

The mocking bird is back on my side of the street, sings it's little heart out, every song it ever heard. Might even be making some up or heard new ones when down south! Love listning it go through the whole repertoire.

The AC man is to come the 22nd, so far haven't needed to turn on. The dark tinted storm windows do their job keeping the house cool or warm. I've been trying to sort stuff in the basement to get rid of but every time I make headways something else comes up & don't get the job done. A must do now!  Also need to defrost the freezer down there & that is a major job, that room has parquet flooring & has gotten water on the floor 3 times in the 31 years we lived here. First 2 times we caught fast enough to dry the wood before it swelled up. Last time it was a slow leak of the copper pipe that comes into the house & some of the squares wouldn't fit back in so all needs to be taken out & replaced with other flooring. 2 of the finished rooms down there have carpet, one is tile & this other room was the original owner's dance floor. Had the mood or dimmer lights. That couple had no kids & entertained a lot, so house basically used for entertaining, everything catered so cooking not important nor cleaning. Guess their cleaning crew brought their own equipment because not a space for vacuums, etc. We bought because it has great access to the bypass around the city & shortens the run to Kansas City, my husband was still working & running to KC once a week. Anyway, I've settled in here & hope to stay until I die, or at least, until the cats die.

I've rambled on again so will shut up. Amy, Cas always was happiest when he had a "project" to work on. One year it was bird feeders for everyone, last one was making golf clubs. He loved to work with wood. I do enjoy your world and activities.

Shut up, Shirley.... you know what??? I really would not enjoy the computer if not for y'all... I would use for shopping or looking things up, but do not enjoy Facebook with family nearly as much as I thought I would the first few days. Strange.....  Sweet dreams, time for bed!

Good morning everyone..
Yesterday was a productive day..picked up material for a trug and it is now finished. Did some sewing then worked outside ,tilled the garden again and can finish planting it today.. Friends dropped by to return some sealers ,plus she made cookies   and she brought a container of Wipes which are difficult to find.

Jenny, it is so easy planting when everything is up to a  comfortable level. I am fair and I burn ,peel and burn again..

Shirley, Kyle loves working with wood. I wouldn't dare say lets build a house as he would be right on it! We are over the hill for that now and although we loved working it is time to be kind to our bodies.

Phyllis, glad Arthur is headed out to sea.you sure don't need a visit from him. Not sure what we will have to supper tonight but it had better be better than last night. I ws too pooped to muster up a meal so we just had a ham and cheese omelet.

Better get going..dancing with the tiller is not a nice as the waltz with the snow blower and I am moving slower today.

Enjoy your day everyone ,stay safe.

Good afternoon everyone, I hope all are well?

It is another fine sunny day here in North East Scotland. Yesterday I took a really long walk - 3 hours - and extended my usual route to some woods that I had not previously explored. It was so nice to sit there and call my younger daughter while watching the bees and birds. The 'Ghost Trees' book I am reading does make you look at nature much more closely.

On Monday I felt deadful and was really quite worried that I was getting ill, but by Tuesday i was fine, and I am starting to think it is the result of our weekly/fortnightly trips to the supermarkets. I find it all so stressful that the next day I inevitably feel bad. I know we do need to go there occasionally, as our local shops don't stock a huge range, but I wonder if it is actually worth it - maybe we should just eat what we can buy in the village. Anyway, all fine now.

Gloria - thanks for your message but I think I am being really dim, as I did not see what I was supposed to do to increase the font. Are my messages coming out too small? I will keep trying!

I have now planted out everything I had left, so until the garden centres re-open I can't fill the new tubs or the gaps between the plants in the other ones, but I think our First Minister is talking of letting them open up next week. We managed to rescue the seed feeder from the river and I have washed it out and dried it - now David has hung it over the water again, but more securely. The birds seem to have found it again pretty quickly.

Gloria, that is so unfair about your air conditioning. My mother has some problems with the heat (too much of it) in her sheltered housing, but I think that is down to old pipes rather than the manager, who is very nice. Hardly any residential properties in the UK have air conditioning, and our house in Edinburgh does get far too hot.

Shirley - your house and land sound just wonderful, so much wildlife, and how lovely to have fish that come to be fed. I love wisteria, but the man at the garden centre told me it was unlikely to flourish here as the climate is not warm enough, so I have never tried it.

Please someone tell me what a 'dump cake' is!

Have a good day everyone,

Rosemary

Rosemary, I think what Gloria is trying to show you is. Where you post your message you will see in the boxes above..  an A and then a A with a red line along side....if you click on that it will give you font size.  I am using a 4 in my message. The box beside it with all the little colour squares  if you click on that you can choose a colour to type with. Hope this is understandable..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up since a little after 5:30.  We must have had a short power outage during the night because my electric clock in the bedroom was blinking 12:35 when I woke up this morning.

The temp was down in the low 50s when I got up this morning but will get into the high 60s sometime today.  I can live with that.  I think Winter is gone for now!

Frankie came over yesterday and spent the night again last night.  I think being in her own apartment for the first time makes her a bit lonely for family and here I am just waiting for visitors!  It's a win/win situation!

I've hit a snag where cleaning out is concerned.  I have to wait for places to open to get rid of things.  I have things to give to Mostly Mutts (an animal rescue place), books for the library book sale, and stuff for Goodwill (a resell place).  Until I get rid of them, I can't go any further.  I keep calling and I keep getting messages saying they are not open.

GLORIA, you asked if I was going to be kneading the bread I make.  I have a recipe that is a "no kneading" bread.  I'll do that one first.

I guess I better get moving or I won't get anything done...whatever it is that needs doing.  I hope you all have a lovely day.  Make it your own in every way.  And don't forget to share it!

Good Morning,

It's another lovely day in central Oklahoma - except that the pollen, which looks like tufts of cotton, keeps floating off the trees behind the back fence and covering everything. Worst thing is that it sticks to the air conditioner coils and can cause issues if not hosed off (as I discovered one blazingly hot Sunday last summer).

Rosemary, my "dump cake" is made by "dumping" canned pie filling and cake mix into a baking pan - no beating separate ingrdients required.

Pour one can fruit pie filling into an 8" baking dish (or cake pan)
Combine 1/4 stick melted oleo margarine (or butter) with 1/2 of a boxed cake mix.
Spread over pie filling.
(Optional) Sprinkle with chopped nuts)
Bake at 350º (F) for about 35 minutes - or until topping is browned.
Best if served warm.

Can be made with 2 cans pie filling and the entire cake mix combined with 1/2 stick oleo(butter) in a larger baking dish.

Suggested combinations are:
Cherry pie filling - Yellow cake mix  (good with chopped almonds)
Blueberry pie filling - White cake mix
Apple pie filling - Spice cake mix (good with toasted chopped pecans)
Strawberry pie filling - Strawberry cake mix
(or your own creative combination).

Off to find something useful to do....or not.  ;D

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Callie, that is what my son fixes out camping. I gave him a big cast iron Dutch oven that he lines with aluminum foil for easier clean up, & sits on coals with coals on top. Make it often enough he has it down pat. Some of the fathers of Boy Scout gatherings have their own competition, his son got his Eagle award so doesn't go anymore but he keeps his life saving certificate up to date so he can teach that badge at camp. He loves kids at any age, although this is finals at the college level so he is frustrated with some of his students. He has not enjoyed the distance teaching with graduate students.

Janie, I think a lot of us are sitting here with boxes waiting to donate. My daughter says she can't do any more sorting until they open up in St.Louis. When they lived in Seattle they had 3 storage units because the house they rented was much smaller than they owned in KS. When she couldn't find something she didn't have time to go look (packers are notorious for putting things in mis-marked boxes) so when they moved back to MO she insisted they get a house with big enough basement to put every thing in one spot. She retired about a year ago & has spent a lot of that time sorting & donating the excess. I'm not as organized so when I sort, too often I find something I hadn't thought about for years & can't part with...

One of those mornings I am delaying decisions... I need to take the trimmer down to cut back weeds before they get too big, but also need to go to the store for fish bread... and know I will have to take a shower as soon as I finish weeding... solution is I may just have to take 2 showers today! Nearly lunch time so maybe a quick shower & wash hair, to the store & pick up lunch on way home... then down to weed whip & another shower, another nap since this 4 & 5 hour nights are not enough. Boy, forget it all & go back to bed!!! Hope y'all are having a more productive day!

Rosemary * Lloyd:  Try this:  Where it says Post reply,  click that then go to a capital B - for BOLD then in color, look at the capital A that has a red arrow, click it and move over to the lines of color.  This is the dark blue. You can always change this later.

Our 2nd. son has Shingles.  He is on the third day of what is supposed to be a ten day time.  He has skin on he face and he says it feels like his hair is on fire.  With his job, he had to go to work yesterday but took this morning off.  We brought dinner to him yesterday and also ran to the pharmacy for a skin cream.  Never have had this - but we had Shingle shots and now our other children are having the shots as well.  Most worrisome is the red spot on one eye.

Jenny:  It is so windy - we must be in Kansas?

Shirley:  Our DIL teaches young children & they really miss seeing each other.  So strange for everyone.  I don't like the idea of children in the house alone if both parents are working.

Lloyd:  Jenny and I will send wind your way - we are tired of the wind.  Take care.

Well, I cleaned floors today and made two medical appointments. Don and I cut each other's hair - this has to end soon.

Carol, every day I look in the mirror and pray for the beauty salons to open!  When I had my Girl Scout troops we had a mother who used to come to camp and spend the nights as an "extra" with us.  Every morning when she got up she said, "I'm glad there's no mirror here because I just know my hair is ALL ANYHOW"!  I think of her every time I pass a mirror in this house right now.  My hair is certainly "all anyhow", and there's not a thing I can do about it!

This is going to be my good night because I know I'm going to fall asleep early tonight!  I didn't get my nap today because I was waiting for 3 people to return my phone calls and I knew if I closed my eyes, that's when they'd call.  So....

Good Night my friends.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Carol, will tell you that when I broke out with shingles (and I did get diagnosed by doctor), only 3 spots on my ribs. I took B1 vitamin simply because it helped with the brown spider bite the year before, along with soaking the spots with warm Epsom salts... would be hard to do on the face & head, but it worked for me. That was more than 30 years ago and every time I get that feeling that they want to break out again (internal pain & "jingling")... I take 100 mg of B-1 (over the counter), and they don't break out. May not work but sure did for me.  My mother was broken out the last 8 years of her life, every time she got nervous or upset. The medicine they gave her at first put her in the hospital & she nearly died. Son, Andy, broke out with them when in CO, he was working on his Masters by mail/computer... so was out there 2+ weeks. First week he went to ER & it was pain, they thought sinus infection (head, face & neck). He didn't get better so week later went back in, by then was breaking out so they knew. Whatever meds they gave him helped the pain but he had sores for probably 6 months & could see the spots a year later. What I thought interesting was if I drank something with ice, the spots immediately registered cold, if I had something hot, felt like being burned with a cigarette. My doctor in KC got me right in, she was the one that treated me for the brown spider bite & shocked when it kept getting bigger & worse with all they had to offer. Since I didn't even have a scar after my home remedy, she just asked me "what was I going to do because they used the same meds for shingles as the spider bite." I think I was lucky to catch so early & started the B-1 plus mine were reachable with a cloth soaked in Epsom salt the first few days. The internal pain is worse than any I had ever felt, Andy thought the same. My sincere sympathy to your son. Far as I know, B-1 should not conflict with anything else (wouldn't hurt to check). I take any time I plan to be out during mosquito season... only 1 per day & 100mg works for adults. An old pharmacist told me to try when our kids were little "if they could swallow pills"... said was what was in the prescription for mosquitoes ... for the little one, 25 mg, next size 50 mg & 100 for adults. I am never without!  I've even tried mashing the out of date ones in a baggy, then put in a bottle of baby oil to rub around my neck, seems to keep mosquitoes from buzzing around but come to think of it, nobody ever sits too close. (kidding). They don't dissolve completely, but the grainy stuff sticks to the skin & not dangerous if not washed off right away. My mother was upset when she read about 2 people dying in sleeping bags because they didn't wash off the bug spray so made a point of warning me before our first trip to the mountains.

Bed time here, sun about down. I am sleepy & think will turn in early. Tomorrow the rain is supposed to start & be off & on through the week end. Can't do anything about that so will try not to whine too much. Sweet dreams and God Bless. We may as well enjoy each day, we don't get a re-make of the 24 hours. Love y'all.

You slipped in, Jane.... ever try to cut your own hair?  I found a place to buy the old Schick injector type blades that I've used since high school. Gives the hair a slice instead of blunt cut so lays better. The few times I've ever let anyone else cut it, didn't look any better so I don't have to wait for someone else to cut & look at all the money I've saved during my 85 years!  Shirley

Good morning everyone. Yes I am still alive and well. slept most of the day yesterday. Slept a litle later this morning.

SHIRLEY  just what "wa-la" meams or what language? do you mean "voila" in French for  something like  "there" for a job well done? I would love getting rid of the oain, the rest of the body is mine and I was never a beauty anyway. I have been havin a 2 hour sleep after my breakfast lately. Cannot seem to get enough of it lately.

AMY  you sound like me woth sunburn. We used to go to the beach often-the Atlantic, I enjoy ed getting in the salt water and alwas burned. Sitting on the beach I would have a towel aroung me and a big straw hat on. Didn't help because I got burned in the  water. Would blister an peel. Learned that plain old vinegar would take the heat out of the burn. I never did tan. Of course all the freckles would pop out.

ROSEMARY  if you have a computer you have notepad. I alway type on that at the top I put the code and start typing right at the end of it. then when finish I go to the post box and make it bigger Thencopy every thing on the notepad and paste in the post box. Yes your font and lloyds are hard to read. The people in the apartments on the second floor-middle floor-never turn their heat on in the winter. Too warm. If I feel cold I turn it up.

AMY  you just taught me something new. Larry sent me the code I use ant it says 14pt for the font size, There is more to it, nice and easy if I can use it.

ROSEMARY easy to read now. Thanks.

LLOYD  I sent the code to you awhile ago but you never used it.

These are what Larry sent me. I don't care for bold so use the bottom one.

Lloyd try ONE of these codes. The top one is bold and the bottom is regular. You start typing right after the last bracket  ]

JANE  if you ever get frustrated kneading the bread dough by hand is one way to get rid of it. ;)  Just 39 here and 33 yesterday. Turned the heat up yesterday.

CALLIE  I don't remember what my sis in lsw ou t in beirs but she did put  some Hershey's cocoa on top and it was great. Chocolae cake is my favorite. It was at least 15-16  years ago I was there. they are both gone now and I still miss both of them.

Have a good day and stay safe.

A quick Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.  When it goes, the day begins.  Still waiting for one call back from the phone calls I made yesterday and for Frankie to return the texts about another phone call.  I need her for delivery service.

It got down to 37 overnight and is supposed to reach a high of 70 this afternoon.  Quite a wide range but that's Spring in Pennsylvania!

Don't know what is on the agenda for today but I do have some meat in the fridge that needs to be cooked.  And I have to make doggie food sometime today.  A whole bunch of weed makers came off the tree in the yard and today I'm going to pick them out of my garden.  We'll see how that goes!

I've had my first cup of coffee and now the day begins!  I wish you a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it!

Good morning everyone...
Another beautiful day out there........going to be a hot one for us.
We went and picked up more material for another trug and it is just about finished[, just needs the plastic lining and trim on it. While Kyle worked at that I planted more garden and watered what had already been planted.

Today is work on the flower bed out front and plant scarlet runners   out back. Have friends coming to pick up some things that I picked up for her later today.

Callie ,between you and my sister decided our supper last night. While talking with my sis she said she was having spaghetti in the IP and that only takes 10mins to cook. No boiling water just dump everything in the pot.See where this is going?? Yes, we had dump cake for dessert  , only had chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling  and it was delicious! Will be making that cake again!

The boss just came in so better go get ready.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe./color]

I'm sorry I have been missing and that I haven't responded to anyone but this weather as brought back the Meniere's.  At least, today I'm able to stand well enough to get out of bed...or recliner...so things are hopefully getting better.  I'll be back when my world settles down a little bit and if, and when, this rain ever goes away.

Hi everyone

It's been a cloudy day here on Deeside, we will go for a walk shortly though.

I hav been reading and writing almost all day - finished Ghost Trees, which was excellent, highly recommended for anyone who is interested in nature and also local London history.

I then read a GM Malliet novel, In Prior's Wood, from cover to cover - though unfortunately I remembered fairly soon why the previous ones in the series, which I read some time ago, had irritated me so much!  The books are about the vicar of a small English village who is also an amateur sleuth - he is supposed to be stunningly handsome, and an ex-spy for M15, and he is married to a woman who believes in Wicca. There are many annoying people around in this book, but the worst is the wife, Awena, who is just too perfect, kind, clever, skilful, moral, patient, etc to be true. And now they have the perfect child, who never cries, can be looked after by just about any of the numerous volunteers that (apparently!) every village has, and always goes to bed with no trouble at all so that Max and Awena can have their friends round to dinner (perfectly cooked by Awena of course) in their perfect cottage. Also, the author is American, and even though my edition was published in the UK by a London publisher, all of the spellings are the American versions, and - much worse - the expressions the characters use are also American, and simply would never be used by British people. I think if she wanted to write like this, the author should have set her stories in a small American town - I do not, of course, have any problem with American spellings and expressions if they are in an American setting!

So anyway, I've finished that now!

At lunchtime I joined a 'group watch' on Facebook in which one of my favourite nature writers, Jim Crumley, read from his new book, The Nature of Spring. It was a section about him sitting by a tree in the Highlands, watching a deer and her faun.  Jim is such a good writer, he really takes you there and you feel as though you are sitting with him, seeing the animals.

Today I also heard from a friend in East Lothian; Anne normally runs her own little cafe and craft shop, but of course she has had to close these and has had no word about when and how she might reopen. Luckily the shop is part of their house, so she does not have to pay rent, and the catering equipment she has is all her own, not leased, so she does not have any outgoings. She is a great crafter herself, a textile artist, and she is also someone who is constantly running around looking after all the elderly or disabled people in her village - I imagine she is still doing a lot of that, but she says she is also enjoying the lockdown, as it has given her some time to herself to get back drawing, sewing and designing. I do wish we could meet up - hopefully that will be possible before too long.

Thanks for the cake instructions Callie - I must say I have never heard of that before!

Phyllis - I am so sorry you are feeling ill again, and I do hope it goes soon, it sounds miserable.

Last night we watched the final instalment of David Stratton's Story of Australian Cinema, I have very much enjoyed the entire series. He introduced us to many films we had never heard of, and also talked about the famous ones like Muriel's Wedding, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Walkabout, A Cry in the Dark, and Rabbit-Proof Fence. One I would really like to see is The Castle, but the only copy on Amazon costs almost £30. Two of our branch libraries have it so I will just have to wait till they finally reopen, whenever that may be.

Jane - what is this 'boinger'?

I have already made pasta sauce for dinner, so when we get back from walking we will only have to cook the pasta itself - otherwise we often don't seem to eat till 9pm, which is too late even by my standards. I was in our little Co-Op last night and they were selling off raspberries, blackberries and apricots, so I have been snacking on them all afternoon - the soft fruit is such a treat when it appears, but usually terribly expensive.

Hope everyone is having a nice day,

Rosemary

ROSEMARY, my dog has to take a pill in the morning and then wait for an hour before eating anything.  So I set the timer on my cell phone for when it will be time to feed her.  I use the sound that seems to be "boing" so I refer to it as the "boinger".  I've been doing this for so many years that I think everyone knows what it is.

I finished everything I needed to do today and we're ready for supper and a walk if it doesn't start raining before we go.  It's not supposed to start until around 8 so I think we're safe.

AMY, I sure wish I lived closer.  The way Kyle is turning out those trugs, I'd be sure to have one for myself.  CHRISTY took the instructions home with her the last time she was here and I'm betting she has one before long.  Her husband likes to work with his hands, too.  And the picture is sure intriguing.  I have to tell you...
she looked at the directions and the pictures and her first comment was, "That's the cleanest garage I've ever seen!"

Better go feed Mickie and me, too.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Another day in the Covid world......Today is Dr. Dave's Birthday, but  sadly we did not get together due to it being his late day at work and our not being able to gather together for a meal.  We are hopeful we will get to spend a bit of time with him one day of this holiday weekend.

Speaking of the long weekend.....I had no idea it will be Memorial Day on a Monday.

LLOYD, sorry to read you had ANOTHER mishap today.  Hope the scrapped arm is all you hurt!

We enjoyed another pretty day here in the Mile High, and thankfully there were no winds today 👍

PHYLLIS, I am so sorry to read your Meniere's has kicked up again.  I hope it will pass quickly and you will feel so much better.

AMY, a friend recently shared a recipe with me that sounds like your spaghetti you had for dinner.....I hope to try it soon.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

Going to be another lovely day out there. Need to take leaf rakings and garbage to the dump this morning. We have been under a burn ban and now that is lifted we can take the bags. Then home to fill the third trug and get it planed as it is already in place and good to go.  Should chase the dust bunnies but we will see what wins out , inside or out :)

Jane, if we lived closer you would have a trug or two!!  I am patiently waiting on the pumpkin seed to grow here.. rhubarb is getting to the point where I can pick some and make a pie.

Jenny, with the instant pot there is no boiling water..........just throw meat ,spaghetti and sauce in for 10 min and she is done! Happy birthday to Dave... I know how you feel as we couldn't get together with our David to celebrate in March.

Lloyd, hope you are not sore today from your trip.

Phyliss, hope today is a better day for you.

Joy, wondering how you are doing, hope you are  ok.

Gloria, we are to have rain on Mon and Tue so they say and it is much needed here.

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a rainy day here too.  Supposed to start around 10 and last most of the day.  At least we might get our morning walk in before it starts.  Yesterday was such a nice day, I think I was spoiled!

It's almost time for the "boinger" so I'll keep this short.  Sorry I didn't get here to check out last night but I just plain couldn't keep my eyes open.  It was all I could do just to get ready for bed and I slept well the first half of the night but the second half was wakeful.

I don't know what today will bring.  I'm just going to do whatever suits my fancy and if nothing does, I might try doing that again.  However, I'm pretty sure that won't work any better this time than the last time.

JENNY, I hope you get to celebrate the holiday and Dr. D's birthday with you family.  I'm really getting tired of this isolation.  One nice thing...the nice weather has brought the neighbors out of hiding and there are people to wave to or say "Hi" along our walks.

PHYLLIS, I hope you feel better this morning and even better this afternoon!

I wonder where JOY is?

Gotta get moving!  I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with us!

Added note:  Good Morning Amy!

Good morning.

Jane and Gloria,  I am still around.  Just have not been on the computer that much,  I get very overwhelmed at times with having to stay put.  I don't feel like doing anything and therefore, don't do nothing.  I did get my hair cut the other day and thought that would boost my spirits, but it really didn't.  Just have to try to get myself out of the doldrums.  I have been reading a lot, but even that, makes me so sleepy.

Thanks for thinking about me.  I will eventually get myself straightened out.  I miss being able to go out to eat the most, I think.  Just not the same bringing it home.  And, I sure don't feel like cooking.  Been eating a lot of sandwiches.

Have a good day.

AMY  with all the rain we have had this year you might think we would not need more but we have been having brush fires around.

Sorry for being so short toda but have to get off this chair and lay down again.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Hello everyone  :)

I am sorry so many of us seem to have aches and pains at the moment. I must say my own back and shoulders are sore today, and I don't really know why. I wrote to the GP for a repeat prescription for cocodamol but it has not yet arrived, so I am hanging on to the two tablets I have left.

We have rain and winds today - the latter gusted so hard it blew my lovely mini-greenhouse right over and all my precious seeds and seedlings were tipped out. I managed to salvage the recognisable ones and put them back in the pots, but I have no idea which seeds were where, so I have just put all the compost back in pots and we will see if anything emerges.

Joy, I am so sorry that you are feeling sad. This thing will pass, but in the meantime it is hard, and I totally agree that takeouts are not the same - I too really miss going out for my coffee, alone or with a friend.

I do have the company of my husband here, and I am truly grateful for that, but on the rare occasions that he is not working, he is always involved in some project or another! - today he is photographing all of his late mother's paintings and drawings. There are at least one hundred to do, they have been in the garage for ages. He says he intends to make a book of the photos for his sister and brother. I'm not sure how well the photography is going, and he looked a bit cross when I went in to try to salvage the poor greenhouse so I am keeping out of the way - I am up here in the spare bedroom, and should be writing reviews.  I also know what you mean about falling asleep reading - especially in the warm afternoons.  We can't get our hair done here at the moment, those hairdressers are going to be so busy when they are allowed to open up.

Jane, thanks for explaining about the boinger! You must have one patient dog - our retrievers would have gone mad if they couldn't have their food the minute I came downstairs. I remember once, I had just given one of them his dinner when my husband came in from work. That dog was absolutely devoted to David, he wanted to run to the front door to greet him, but at the same time he could not bear to stop eating his food - he was sorely conflicted, though luckily it only ever took him about 2 minutes to demolish his bowlful.

Last night we watched the next episode of The Real Marigold Hotel, about the celebrities who are 'trying out' India as a retirement location. The house they are staying in is in Pondicherry, which looks like a lovely seaside city, but next week they are moving to the foothills of the Himalayas. It reminded me so much of The Jewel in the Crown, when all the families of the British Raj families used to move up to houseboats at Kashmir for the summer, to get away from the terrible heat further south. Of course nowadays Kashmir would not be safe, it is disputed territory and full of terrorists/Freedom Fighters (depending on one's point of view...) The Jewel in the Crown is still one of my favourite TV series - Art Malik, Charles Dance, Geraldine James, Tim Piggott-Smith, Judy Parfitt (now the very elderly nun in Call the Midwife), Peggy Ashcroft and of Susan Wooldridge - what a cast that was.

Hope you are going to stay feeling better, Phyllis. I think our bodies like to remind us to watch out, WE are not in control. I know I am so less tolerant of any ache or pain these days, just because I am fed up with only myself & cats for company.

My new glasses make me dizzy, had so hoped removing some of the "angle" in the prescription would help. I find myself having to grab for a wall or something for fear I'll tip over. After wearing a while my right eye gets real blurry when I take the glasses off, it has the worst cataract, but could see as clear as ever with the other glasses. Can't imagine what is causing that. For sure, having cataracts is not the main problem, it is ill fitting glasses! I wish I knew of an old timer optometrist that would take time to test without racing through... my eyes don't adjust as fast as they flip "is this best or this best?".... I realized that was the problem when driving through the mountain canyons in the evening, jumping from bright sun to dark shadows, my eyes are still on dim when bright!  :-\

Gloria, you & others have talked about "feeling the damp cold in your bones" and I finally got a good dose of it this week. Really does show up in joints, doesn't it?  I was wishing for kind of  knee "gloves" when wind went through the knit sweat pants the other day. Never noticed that before, but last time I wore knit out in a cold, damp wind.

Waiting for the AC man to come, schedule was between 9:00 & noon.... I woke up at 3:00 am to storms & cats wanting in. decided too early to stay up so crawled back in bed but slept with one eye open knowing I had to get cats & myself fed, dressed before the AC man showed up. Usually I am first on the list, but not today. I can hardly keep my eyes open but can't dare fall asleep. Cats don't understand being shut out of the house, but when Callie comes in I have to make sure the basement door & folding door to the "other end of the house" is closed because she likes to sneak into those rooms & has "claimed her spot" more than once. Makes a lot of extra work for me. Anyway, they are sleeping in the pool area & will be upset when the AC man has to come past them to hose off the insides of the AC unit. They will fly over the fence. So goes the day.

Nice to see our Jane & Amy are keeping busy. Joy, know what you mean about doing NUTHIN! Jane says we can't, but I'm giving it a good try.  :P

You & your husband do keep busy, Rosemary, a slightly different routine that most in here. When he gets all through photographing the paintings maybe you will post a photo of your favorite for us to see. My mother painted like Grandma Moses... on the other hand, I paint very realistic. She won awards at the state fair and I never entered the fair contest since elementary school when teachers sent our work to be judged.

Rosemary - I don't often post here in Soda Shoppe, but I saw your message this morning, where you mentioned the series, The Jewel in the Crown.  I haven't seen it, but will try to locate it, as I would like to see more of Charles Dance.  I was so impressed with him,  playing Lord Mountbatten, in The Crown!  When he recited Kipling's,  Mandalay, I fell in love!    It was the first time that I was really aware of him, even though I had seen him in Game of Thrones.  I didn't realize it was the same actor, until I looked him up online.  I'll do a search, and see if I can find The Jewel in the Crown, playing anywhere here.

I would like to invite you to join us in the Leisure Activities forum, here in Seniors and Friends.  https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?board=16.0

Not many members posting in the Library Bookshelf, these days, but we're trying to keep it moving along with recommendations and comments.  Also, check out the folder Television Today.  It includes TV shows and series, both old and new, as well as all the movies that are available on our many TV channels/Netflix/Amazon, et al

Oh thanks Marilyne, I will take a look those folders, I hadn't really ever got beyond this one.

Charles Dance was very young when he was in The Jewel in the Crown (which is fabulous, in my opinion) - he comes into it relatively late but there are lots of other excellent actors in the earlier episodes.

Slightly more recently he was a terrifying Mr Tulkinghorn in the BBC's adaptation of Bleak House. In fact in recent years he has almost exclusively played baddies. whereas in The Jewel he was lovely! I still have not seen The Crown, I really must rectify that.

Shirley - if he EVER finishes this project i will indeed try to post a picture!

I can't paint or draw at all, I wish I could. My husband is quite good, and my younger daughter has just completed her penultimate year at art school in Dundee.

Your house and grounds sound amazing - they must be huge! Space is always at a premium in the UK, though less so in rural Scotland, especially where my son and daughter in law live in the Highlands.

Good Afternoon,

Thunder and the sound of rain awoke me at 5:00 a.m. I just put a pillow over my ear and went back to sleep.  When I opened the north blinds, there were raindrops on the window screens and one of the trellis planters around the a/c on the patio had blown over. Fortunately, the ivy threaded through the trellis wasn't affected.
The paper was so soggy that I pitched it in the trash bin instead of hanging pages on a clothes rack to dry out as I usually do.

Amy,  ooh - I forgot about cherry pie filling and chocolate mix for the dump cake.  Yum yum!

Rosemary, so sorry about your little greenhouse.  Are you going to leave the "mixed up pots" and see what comes up?  You may have discovered an interesting combination.  :)

Shirley,  your focus issue sounds a bit like astigmatism. That's when your eyes don't focus in on things very quickly (which, it just dawned on me, may be the purpose of that "which is clearer A or B" test that I also hate).
#1 son, who was a very good athlete, wore glasses but had problems with batting when he played baseball.  His eyes couldn't focus on the incoming ball and he almost always struck out.  However, he was a great outfielder because it took the ball longer to get to him.

Joy,  I understand your "doldrums".  Domestic Duties for a household of one (no pets, thankyouverymuch) don't take that long and I'm actually getting tired of having nothing to do but read.  Didn't think I'd ever in my lifetime reach that point.

I have begun writing a story/narrative/essay/?? about my mother and her two sisters. Plan A is to write a section about their life growing up and then do a biography of each one. Have a First Draft of the "life growing up" section just about done and material collected for the bios.  However, moving from reading in the recliner to typing on the computer is also getting tedious.

(Yes, thank you, I will have some cheese with my Whine :D )

I did thaw a piece of round steak to put in the small crockpot for dinner and should probably get that started.

CUL8R.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

A good Friday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Another beautiful morning here.  I love the ability to sit out on my deck, listening to my fountain and watching all the birdies.  It seems we have more birds than ever being spotted all of the metro area this spring.  I love it!  We are also inundated with many Millard Moths! A friend of mine that lives in Santa Fe told me over a week ago that they were thick down there and now they are here too!

AMY, we sure do enjoy hearing about your thugs and the planting that you are doing.

ROSEMARY, I am sorry to read about the wind that blew your little greenhouse over.  How sad..I hope you were able to save a lot of your seedlings in spite of the fact that you now have no idea what they are.  It will be fun to see them grow so you can see what they are.  I, too, hope one day we can view some of your husbands hard work of photographing his mother's art work. I must say, I had to chuckle at your comment "he looked a bit cross", so you are staying out of his way! 🤣🤣. We enjoyed The Marigold Hotel movies.  My hubby has been watching some of the great old movies and he says they are so much more enjoyable than the new stuff today.

JOY, I think you are in the norm of how many are feeling these days after having to stay at home.  I agree that the picked up food that we are eating at home is just not that rewarding.  To be very honest I am fearful of starting to go out to restaurant again, even though I have been thinking how much I wish we could. This is a very scary time in our lives and many are having a hard time dealing with it.  You take care now and hang in there. 😘

SHIRLEY, I do hope the A/C man showed and finished the cleaning of your unit.  The last time I got new prescription glasses they were made over three times for me and I still could not see well out of them.  Lady year I changed to a new Opthmologist and she did not even write me a prescription....she said I have 20/20 vision😩😩😩 Let me tell you.....there is NO WAY I have 20/20 vision....I cannot hardly see a thing.....I use cheaters to read and distance is fuzzy...

I am washing our winter heated mattress pad and I have to keep turning it a different way in the dryer....oh how I wish I had your clothes line AMY!

I just wanted to mention that I fixed bone and skin on chicken in my new air fryer for dinner last night and it was wonderful!

CALLIE, I can not wait for the new season of Mrs. Maisel to start.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

If any of you have air fryer recipes to share and you wouldn't mind emailing them to me, I'll forward them to my daughter in Texas.  She just got an air fryer and was asking me if I knew anywhere to get recipes.  Or if you have a website you use for that, please share it with me and I'll share it with her.  Thanks!

Callie, you are right, the astigmatism is the main problem, have always had in one eye but last doctor said it was both. That didn't fit too good but this last exam thought it would improve to weaken that part but not working well. I am more concerned about why it makes my right eye so blurry when I take the glasses off. My near vision really is 20-20, I can read the copyrite at the bottom of the chart, so no need for bifocals. Was having trouble reading street signs though, so really would love to meet up with one of those old timer optometrists. The first eye doctor I went to after growing up was back in 1984 and he got the glasses perfect, a little near and little far sighted. My glasses were like binoculars, when held up away from face, the top part made everything look smaller and the bifocal part enlarged. Sadly, that doctor retired.

Well, enough about my eyes. Certainly does make life difficult when they don't work right. So far I don't think I am a danger to myself or anyone else (driving). I do warn people when I bump into something in crowded aisle in the store that "I drive like this, too"... usually gets a smile.

Sweet dreams and God Bless. Quiet right now, better check to see if weather guessers are calling for rain again tonight. I need sleep so cats need to know if it calls for in or out.

Good morning everyone..

We did get the bags of leaves, twigs, pine cones and garbage taken away to the dump. Being the second ones in there we had to watch where we were stepping as the bear family had been there shopping.

Friends were here when we got home, left me a bag of goodies (fabric) and she got her goodies. We had picked up more soil so now trug #3 is filled ready for planting. Then back to town to pick up more lumber for another trug which is now 3/4 finished and will be ready for pick up later today or tomorrow.

Today, laundry and I had better do some baking, not a cookie in the house here to nibble on.

Shirley, I hope you find a solution to your eyes and soon.

Jenny, you gave me a giggle with your thugs. Now there is a 3rd to plant, guess I had better get some peas and put in one as ,Kyle enjoys just picking and eating them raw.

Joy, glad you are doing alright. You are the envy of many with being able to get your hair cut.

Rosemary, just think of the surprises you will get when you plant your seedlings.

Gloria, hope today is a better day for you.

Sitting here listening to the loon's call echoing across the lake...

Better get going and get work done before the day heats up.

Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I read the paper first this morning before coming into the computer room.  It's another dreary day here today and heading for more rain late morning into afternoon!  Boy! Is the grass ever growing!

I'm going to have to cut this short because I have to get dressed and take Mickie for a walk before the rains come and before Cathy gets here from her trip to the grocery store.

I hope you all have a great day! Make the most of it!

Good morning everyone.Turned on the TV and sat here watching The Block of Silly Walking. Think we need more places with people doing things like that giving everyone a laugh. This one was from New Bedford, Mass. From what the announcer was saying this is going on around the country. Some really looked funny. Turned on the PC and started readin and not even saying anything. Think I am losing it? I am beginning to wonder. :(

SHIRLEY  I was never anygood with painting, even in 4th grade the teacher made fun of a tree we were painting. Sure embarassed me. In 8th grade the teacher was more kind. She picked me as a model for the rest of the class to paint. I thanked her after. I had to wear the same outfit every Friday for 4 weeks.

The eye doctor I went to for years retired and sold his practice to 2 young ones just out of college. When I went there the first time I was surprised at all the machines used to tell them what I see. Glasses were not good for me so took my old ones and checked them to the new ones. I have bifocals and they had the line too high. I called a different doctor in a group that my old one once was a partner in. Got the son of one of the founders of the group. Been seeing him since them, about 15 years now. His sister also works there. The one I had for years had his son there fitting one for the glasses. His Dad taught him right.

AMY  we had a big garden every year and planted rows of peas but never had enough to cook. We picked and ate them raw as soon as the pods were big eough.

JANE  it is raining here now but tomorrow and Monday are to be nice.

Have a good day and stay safe.

I'm back, at least for awhile.  Thanks for the good wishes. We are having sun after more storms last evening.  The worst of it was south of us, however.

Oh, yes, Callie!  From this person who will read ANYTHING I agree with you...I'm a little tired of reading, too.

Rosemary, Charles Dance has always been a favorite actor and he is one of those men who age very gracefully.

I managed to bake some cookies yesterday so I felt more "back to normal".

Take care, All.

I honor my father, John L. Wright, who suffered the after effects of the gas used by the Germans in WWI to combat our US troops in Belgium.  Our troops were not prepared for this and many died immediately.  My father made it to his 80s and that gave me life.  But it wasn't without effort that he lived a long life.  The effects of that gas went with him through his whole life but he never gave up!  I loved him then and I love him now and I will love him forever!

i'm cutting out early tonight because I'm just plain beat.  I'm all in but my shoestrings and that's bad because I'm not even wearing shoes right now.  It got hot and humid today and that beats me down.  I'm not ready for A/C yet.  I'm enjoying having the windows open.  If it's like this tomorrow, the ceiling fans will be running.  I prefer that to A/C.  I guess I'm just not an A/C person.  I didn't grow up with it and I don't really like it unless I'm canning!  Then I'm grateful.

Anyway, I'm bidding you all good night and I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  I really am getting tired of this isolation!

This doesn't seem like a holiday/Memorial Day. What happened to winter?  All of a sudden it is HOT in Kansas, still 79° at almost 10:00 pm. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

I noticed yesterday when coming home from the store, the house down the street has big bushes  of peonies blooming. My mother always had them and would cut the day before we went to visit grandparents graves, put in the refrigerator in the garage, Dad would take the shelves out. Mom thought they would last longer if chilled. She made sure all the ants were off first, so we didn't get them in the car. Summer time she would keep a huge stainless steel pitcher full of fresh squeezed lemonade for Dad, and always the extra foods, but "Decoration Day" as we called it, it held peonies. The little town they grew up in always had a picnic just down the opposite end of the road from Grandma's house. Everyone was related so all would go clean up the cemeteries (one was Protestant & other Catholic)... with a fence dividing them. My relatives were on both sides of the fence so not a problem. Everyone brought food to share after the flowers were put on the graves. Sad and happy day.

I won't be taking flowers until later in the summer, but I will be thinking of all of them. I have a sister and very few cousins left, I almost don't want to go back after so many deaths the last few years, friends and family. Tomorrow & Monday I will put the flag out, rain or shine. All 3 of my brothers and husband served: Air Corp, Army, Navy, Marine Corp and Air Force, had an uncle in the Seabees, and too many cousins to count, besides the nurses that served. I do think everyone made it through their tour of duty, some had lasting nightmares but back in those days, there wasn't any counseling.

Hope your thoughts are as loving as mine, like Jane, the love lingers on as long as we live.

Good morning everyone 47 now and cloudy. In a few more days it will be 80.  I am not worried about it. My children's father-my ex-died Friday night. 6 days short of his 91st birthday.  Sad when 3 children are glad at last, especially the oldest one who had calls from him in the middle of the night and then from the nursing home. He did not trust him to have power of attorney but  wanted him to do every thing.
I had a wonderful surprise yesterday, my 2 sons called from the foyer downstairs to let them in. Ok I pushed the button on the phone and heard the door open. I unlocked my door so they could come in and then I heard a knock at the door. Was surprised to see both  of them and they had a big box. The 3 of them got together for a late Mother's day present, a new window AC. They installed it and started it. quiet and wow it dried the humidity out of the air  in less than 30 minutes. Love it. Has a remote that really works too.
Now I hope the witch does no say anything. The company has no rule about window AC's but when moving in she tells everyone they need the portable ones. As soon as we found out from a company rep after loo‌king it up in a big rules book there was nothing about that. The window ones started popping out. I feel odd because no one else has an AC in yet.

PHYLLIS  add another one to the list of tired of reading. Tired of the computer, too. This ia about the only place I come to except to check email and I am away from it till Skype time. I ope you stay well for a long time now.

ROLEY-PETER  I know I have ignored your recent posts but have been very lax lately in here. It is so nice to see y our posts agsin. Stay well.

JANE  with only 2 windows in this apartment and with it facing the southwest I get a lot of heat from the sun and very little breeze from the windows. Without an AC I would pass out from the heat and humidity here. As the heat goes up so does the humidity.

SHIRLEY  I grew up getting used to Decoration Day. Took years to get used to Memorial DAY. Like calling November 11th Armistace day and now Veterans day.

AMY WHERE ARE YOU?

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone...

Going to be another hot  one today..we put the air on yesterday mainly to see if it works but it stayed on. they say the weather will be just as bad if not hotter today..hope not.

Yesterday we did get a lot done and I finally got some cookies made. Laundry dried in no time on the line.

Today is a day of rest other than springing a surprise on my friend we have nothing planned. She will be turning 80 in Aug but we are giving her,her gift now........a trug. He is coming down to pick it up later in the day. She thinks he is coming down for a load of lumber  that I told her we didn't want. He is in on the surprise and quite good at keeping secrets.

Gloria, here I am. I was so tired last night that I even went to bed early ,only up once for a glass of milk and cookies. What a wonderful surprise your family did for you!! You will really enjoy the a/c!!

Mycheal, beautiful poem. I am in Canada and we also have a day thanking those that serve. I do think they should also teach the young ones just what was sacrificed during the wars past and present.

Jane and Shirley, the love of a child  never ends especially if you were "Daddy's little girl" as I was. Dad taught me how to do many things that are still used today in my life.

Better go get ready for the day..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Even though Memorial Day isn't officially until tomorrow I think I'll ask David to put the flag out today as well.  I'm thinking of my father, too, and all three of my brothers.  I can't decorate their graves because they are all buried far away from me but I am remembering.

Sunny and warm and humid this morning.  I think I'll have to re-program the thermostat because it seemed uncomfortably hot in the bedroom last night.  More rain expected for later today...I hope "they" are wrong.

Take care, All.

Let us remember and Let US NEVER FORGET. I never wore a uniform but felt every day of each tour of duty. With my husband, I served all of his time in except the first of those 8 years. 4 years active and 4 in-active. I washed and ironed the khaki uniforms and pressed the dress ones, washed, bleached, starched & ironed the white hat covers, scarf, gloves, lanyard & boot laces every single day for more than 3 years of active duty. He didn't have stripes for the military to send a wife to England to join him, but military had to allow me to go as a tourist and take care of him those years. I feel like I served my time. My flag is out already this morning, proudly waving in this Kansas wind. Woke up to 75°, rain to the south-west so very humid. Cats gave up and stayed inside last night so all laying around the pool this morning after breakfast. Looks like rain any minute. I am grateful to have all of you to share this day and tomorrow with.

Gloria, a special smile for the new AC, great kids!

Afternoon everyone!

I have been reading all your posts about Memorial Day, they are very moving, and I hope you are all able to have some time to reflect as you would like to tomorrow. We do not have Memorial Day here. Jane - my grandfather was also gassed in the First World War. He died when I was a small child so I have only fleeting memories of him, but my mother said he was never the same again - he turned to drink, and sadly caused my grandmother all kinds of hardship, as what little money he got was spent on alcohol. (This had all stopped before I was born.) As people have already said, there was no counselling then, and also no social security support - these men, who had fought in the trenches, were just thrown back into society with nothing. Officers were of course different - they were looked after in special hospitals such as the one at Craiglockart in Edinburgh where Wilfred Owen and Seigfreid Sassoon first met. It is now part of Edinburgh Napier University.

When I was a student at Cambridge I woke up early one Sunday morning and decided to cycle out to some of the villages. I came to Madingley, which has the American air force cemetery, so i walked around it in the early morning sunlight. It is the most lovely place, so peaceful, and so beautifully looked after. The crosses are all in lines, together with many Stars of David. I really enjoyed my visit.

Gloria - I am so pleased that you now have proper air conditioning, and I do hope you are not told off about it. if anyone complains maybe your sons can speak to them? - it is preposterous that you can't have something that makes your life more comfortable. The staff at my mother's sheltered housing are always happy for the residents to put in anything that they want - except toasters, which is something my mother still is not happy about, but really - as I am forever telling her - the fire brigade would be round there every 5 minutes when someone's burnt toast set of one of the alarms. Toast is served at every breakfast, and they can always ask the staff to make it at other times if they want some. Mum has a microwave and a fridge in her room.

I did not manage to post yesterday as first my laptop, which my husband spent 5 hours resetting last weekend, forced another update on me and promptly crashed (which was the very thing he was trying to fix).  So I had to close it down and wait for hours for it to get over itself.

Then my cat Gracie seemed off colour; in the morning she was just rather quiet and inactive, but as the day progressed she began to vomit, and unfortunately this was blood-streaked, so we ended up having to take her to the emergency vet. They are good but my goodness they are expensive - I am just hoping the pet insurance will cover it. Gracie was on Loxicom (pain relief for arthirtis) for a very long time in the past, and I think this has given her an ulcer - the bloodstained vomiting has happened before, but this time it seemed worse. Because of the wretched virus, we are not allowed to accompany our animals into the surgery, the vet nurse collects them from our cars, then the vet calls us and talks us through the examination. They were very kind and thorough, and concluded that indeed it probably is some kind of gastric ulcer - so they gave her some injections and sent her home. She was still very quiet until mid-morning today but now she seems a lot more cheerful. Honestly, as I said to my husband, if it's not children it's animals.

Our First Minister has published a four stage plan for ending our lockdown. She says we may not get to Stage 4 for 'many months or more'. I suppose it is encouraging that Stage 4 - which sounds like 'normal life' - is actually envisaged at some point, but it does seem a long way off just now. At least her outline is clear and sensible.

In the meantime we have the main - and entirely unelected - advisor to the English Prime Minister having been caught travelling over 200 miles when both he and his wife, with whom he travelled, were ill with the virus, to dump their child on its grandparents. We, meanwhile, are told not to visit elderly people at all, and most definitely not to ask them to look after our children, and if we are showing any symptoms we are to self isolate in our own homes for 14 days. We are only meant to travel short distances for essential things like food shopping and medical appointments. Government ministers are actually trying to defend this appalling 'them and us' behaviour, saying his 'journey was essential'. Please note, for the avoidance of doubt, that we are talking about very wealthy people here, people who can afford nannies and other help - not a desperate single parent who has no-one else to care for their child. I hope he is forced to resign. He is already credited with saying that coronavirus should just be left to run its course as 'most people who die from it would have died within two years anyway.'  I am so glad we live in Scotland, with a responsible and caring government.

It's an overcast sort of day here - I really wish it would rain, the air feels so heavy. But I am pleased to report that some of those seeds that were so rudely ejected from their pots in the great greenhouse disaster have started to sprout. Not yet sure if they are morning glory or parsley, I hope this will soon become obvious!

Phyllis, I am so glad you like Charles Dance - I was practically in love with him when he was Guy in The Jewel in the Crown. I think (though I haven't read it) that there is a later novel, Staying On, that ties up the loose ends of what happened to some of the characters, and it reveals that Guy and Sarah do eventually marry and settle down in the English Home Counties.

Last night we watched a new Michael Portillo series in which he is revisiting the countries that once formed the British Empire. He began with India, and it was so interesting - Portillo is usually quite mainstream, but this was no celebration of the empire, he interviewed a lot of Indian historians and writers about the dreadful things that the British did there - though it seemed that the worst atrocities were mainly committed by the East India Company before the state took over the ruling of the country. Clive of India and his men were really terrible thugs who had carte blanche to do whatever they liked. Of course the Raj itself wasn't exactly a good thing, but at least it was regulated in some ways, and it did build an amazing railway network.

Yesterday evening, when we were waiting outside the vet's, we thought we might as well do our grocery shopping - but needless to say I (for guess who was elected to go into Tesco's, and who was chosen to stay in the car and watch sport on his phone?!) forgot half the things we needed, so we will have to go back at some point. This is what happens when I have no list and my mind is on other things. At least I didn't forget the wine or the chocolate :) So last night David made a spinach and tomato curry and it was actually very nice. My car is due to go into the garage tomorrow morning, as they have finally re-opened and wil fit the part it has been waiting for for weeks - so I may get the chance to revisit the nearby supermarket on the way back.

I hope you are all having a good day,

Rosemary

I'm up and about but not thinking too clearly.  Bad night in bed!  I sure wish I could get to sleep and stay there for a while.  Last night I was in bed around 10:20, slept soundly and woke refreshed and ready to get up.....at 1:34 a.m.  Then I couldn't go back to sleep for more than a half hour at a time and Mickie decided that she had an urgent call a few minutes before 5.  Not a good night!

I'll try to get back later.  GLORIA, good for you and your A/C and how nice of the boys!

Gotta go!  Lunch is calling!

Good morning everyone,

I am up unusually early today as it was the morning of taking the car into the garage. So we have already done that and I'm back here with my coffee - it's only 8.36am!  But the upside is, it's a beautiful sunny day, the washing is already in the machine, and I have been out in the garden topping up the seed feeder (now hanging out over the river to placate the paranoid neighbour...) and have even planted some sunflower seeds that my daughter sent me. Everyting is starting to grow like mad out there, and two ducks swam past on the river.

Jane - I also had a dreadful night's non-sleep, not sure why but so frustrating. I try not to think about it in the day, as it only makes me feel more tired if i dwell on it. The very early light doesn't help at this time of year, and of course that sets off all the crows in the trees on the opposite bank. Needless to say they are all quiet now - probably gone back to bed. I thought about doing that but decided I would try to be more productive.

Lloyd - my mother's birthday is 6th August. She will be 93 this year, God willing. I spoke to her on the phone last night and she was very hale and hearty. I hope we will get her computer back to her on Tuesday, she is really missing that as she likes to work on her family tree on Ancestry.

Have a lovely day everyone,

Rosemary

Rosemary, my grandmother's birthday was in August, the 30th, only she was born in 1871. She lived to 96 with her mind clear as a bell until the day she died. How I wish we had computers before she died. She had made little notes to herself that we found in boxes after she was gone, to remind herself of birthdays, days in history. Sadly, nobody thought about giving her notebooks or journals to write in.

My mother did "write a book" before she died. I spent one whole winter sorting and putting in chronological order the loose leaf pages. I had given her packages of notebook paper and a 3 ring notebook and suggested she write about one day on a page, every detail she could remember and put her age at the top so I could do the continuity writing without having to ask her dates all the time. I absolutely loved details that she had not even thought about being important.

Gloria, even though your "ex" was difficult/miserable, the good left behind (you have some great kids) softens the memory a little. I think God gives us a chance to make choices, good and bad, and we have to be judged by those choices. Some people leave behind few memories of choosing wisely, not that we judge them but facts are facts! Your kids had the chance to notice the differences between their parents and show their approval all the time, right?

I am up too early, the mind didn't want to rest last night. I'm not even tired so will just have breakfast and start the day. With nobody else in the house I can eat or sleep when ever my body thinks it is time. I do have things I want to get done today so ON WITH IT!

Lloyd, time for you to find a smaller house in town, a group of guys to sit around and have coffee with, a workshop where you can create those wooden boxes or bird houses... and get you away from the heavy machinery. I'll bet Nancy would appreciate a nice little yard for flowers and not a huge place that needed help all the time. Think about it! This yard doesn't look nearly as nice as when Cas was taking care of it. I have a couple guys that mow & trim every week and good enough for me, takes them at most half an hour with their equipment, costs me $40, but I don't have to worry about doing maintenance on the John Deere riding mower in my shed. Time to sell it and have that space to get some extras out of the garage. haha, I'm good at giving advice, time for me to take my own!

Bet Amy and Jane will be up and attem when I go to post this... it is Memorial Day 2020. How about we start a head count. I am 85 in 2020, we should have a combined lot of years of experience if we count each of us! Who is next???

I'm here SHIRLEY and good morning Everyfriend!  I did sleep a little better last night but it was off and on and I wish I could just go through the night once for old time's sake.

SHIRLEY, I turned 85 in April and I've already outlived my Grandmother's 84 on on side and both grandparents on the other side and my father's 84.  I still have a sister who is 16 months older than I am and I hope she sticks around for a long time.  My BIL celebrated 90 last October.  He's the one I adopted as a true brother.

Don't know what today will bring except that Frankie will be here late afternoon or early evening and will spend the night then tomorrow she'll help me with some deliveries I have to make and something I want to pick up to send to my daughter in Texas and we'll drop off my mail in ballot at the office.  Busy day tomorrow!

Right now the temp is 61 and heading for a high of 78 today.  I can take that!

Not sure what today will bring!  But I'll take whatever it is and try to make the most of it!  I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with all of us!

Where's JOY?

Good morning everyone..

Nice overcast morning here, ground got a nice soaking through the night. Hope we get more today and that saves me watering all the plants etc.

Our friends came yesterday to pick up the unwanted "lumber" She was so surprised ,made her eyes leak!! She has the planting already done in her mind , just needs to pick up some plants.

Spent the rest of the day sewing...nice!!

Today, we need to pick up more lumber for another trug. I am going to sew...one lady would like more masks and I need to make another one for my friend.

Happy Memorial day to you...this one will be different from the ones in the past but memories still remain in your hearts.

Lloyd, her birthday is right after yours on the 28th she will 80 yrs young.

Better get dressed ,take hubby to pick up the lumber and get on with our day.

Enjoy your day everyone.stay safe..

I'm trying to be positive here but, you know, I'm a little tired of the rain.  I'm remembering that old song...."In to each life some rain must fall, too much is falling in mine."  It is supposed to be rainy all this coming week.  David went for a walk yesterday afternoon because he is getting a little "stir crazy" and came home wet.

I think, now that June and Mary Ann are gone, that I may be the senior member here.  Not sure about that.  I'm 90 and 1/2.  My mother lived to 92 and her younger sister, my Aunt Ina, died at 100.

Laundry today.....yes, that happens even on Memorial Day/Decoration Day...and I want to bake some bread and make some potato salad for our very small holiday dinner tonight.  Potato salad, baked beans, hot dogs.  That sounds pretty American to me.  Even though this is supposed to be one of our more solemn holidays I always looked forward to it as a kid because it meant the big pool in the park was finally open. yay!  The carefree days of youth!

I'm off to get breakfast.  Take care, All.

Is it proper to wish others a  Merry Monday Memorial Day?  Or should it be something more solemn.

'Tis a dreary day in central Oklahoma and I'm feeling the same way - plus a bit "snarky".

Off to sit in the corner until I can behave.

Hey, Snarky Callie, would you please turn off the faucet!!! The river is as full as I'd like for now. You send it up in the sky and we send back via river. NOT a great deal.

Phyllis, we had a whole week planned for rain, got through it with sun out now & then, if you kept watching. I always found an excuse to get out when raining, not sure why, but always find a raincoat & boots ready to float me along. My daughter gave me a pair of UGGS rain boots, just slip on type but warm & dry to get out in. They are on my feet & ready to travel, have things I can't do without needed from the grocery store. Stopped to check radar & got a good inch of dry so better hurry. Just so happens I need to get out when lunch time so good excuse to "drive thru", right?

Is anyone going to keep track of the years we are adding up... experience numbers we can brag about... but I'm not good with numbers (hey, MY idea...I'm full of ideas!) ;D

Better get moving, that inch before more rain showing up will be gone soon. Got to get my flag out... I did go back to bed after all.

[Shirley, I'll do what I can if I ever find out who's sending rain to us from Texas!
BTW, do you know where Sam from Leadville went after he retired from the grocery store?

Son showed up at noon with groceries and caught me still in gown and robe, breakfast things still beside recliner and bed not made. Oops!

We had a wonderful conversation. So nice to speak aloud to someone in person. Helped snarkines a bit.[

I'll add 84 1/2 to experience years.

🌺🌺  HAPPY MEMORIAL/ DECORATION DAY TO EVERYFRIEND 🇺🇸🇺🇸

No big plans for the day, other than going to cemeteries to put flowers on every family members grave, but sadly, ONLY in my mind.

My maternal grandmother grew the most beautiful flowers in her garden and on Memorial Day, off to all the family graves she went to put flowers on each and every one of them.  She never missed one single one🥰🥰 She had the most spectacular bearded Iris....They were huge and so colorful.  Peonies we always a part of the bouquets.

We had rain pretty much all day long yesterday.  It was dark and dreary, but boy is it nice and greeN and beautiful today.  Temp is rather cool, but we will start to warm up tomorrow.

I hope you all enjoy a special day.  I will add some to the number we are looking for, but I am one of the younger ones here in our special group....I am 72 and a half on the 30th😘

Jane, I thought I wrote a message yesterday, but in checking back, I couldn't find it. I am wondering if I failed to hit the "post" button???  I was almost sure that I had written something.   I have just not been on the computer for a couple days.  Just being very lazy and kind of in a "fluky" mood.  (if that is such a word. LOL )

Like Gloria, I am just so sleepy most of the time.  I sit down to read, and fall asleep.  I was supposed to get my hair done again today, but I had a chance to go out for a little bit, so I cancelled the hair appt.  My DIL took me down the road to a produce stand/nursery, and I was so disappointed that they didn't have much produce.  Loads and loads of every kind of flower you could think of, but very little produce. I did get some good black cherries, some white corn and a couple tomatoes. They also had cantalopes, and that was the extent of their produce. The cantalopes were too big.  I had one a couple weeks ago, and it was just way too much, but I did manage to eat almost all of it.  I had some of the corn for dinner and just finished some of the cherries.

Jane, thanks for asking for me.  I will just have to try to get here more often, even if I don't have much to say.

Have a good rest of this Holiday week end.

Joy

Well,  if we're going to get technical,  I'm 84 and 5/12 years old...plus 2 days.  Hope that doesn't mess up your statistics, Janie.  ;D  :smitten:

Shirley,  according to the radar on the 6:00 news, "our" rain is coming up from the Gulf of Mexico.  I don't know anyone in that direction to direct it someplace else.
It's drizzled here all day long and was dark enough at 7:00 to close the blinds - even though sunset isn't until 8:30ish. Supposed to be the same tomorrow and then sunny the rest of the week.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

JOY, it's OK with me if you have "fluky" feelings.  I just hope they don't last very long.  I even think I know what they feel like.  I just never knew what to call them.  Now I do.

CALLIE, the rain that's coming North to you is passing through the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Cindy who lives in the Dallas suburbs said today was a dark, rainy, dreary day!

Also, I gave you the 1/2 year and I'm not changing it.  I never did like doing fractions in school and (HALLELUJAH!!) I don't have to deal with them now except in recipes.

And speaking of recipes...I'm going to need a new set of measuring cups and spoons.  Does anyone know where you can get a set of cups that only has 1/2s and 1/4s and no thirds?  And can you get a set of 8 or more spoons that only have tsps. tbsps. and 1/2 tsps.?  I'd like the cups to have about 3 of each that I need and the spoons to come in sets of 5 each.  I seem to have multiple 1/3s of the cups and multiple 1/2Tbsp and Tsps.  What happens to the ones I use most of the time.  Is there some kind of measuring cup/spoon elf around who is stealing the good stuff?

Oh well, I think I'll just do like Scarlett O'Hara and "think about that tomorrow".  Right now, I'm going to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I am totally wiped out tonight. One cat sitting on the step trying to decide if this whole night will be rainy or if she wants to stay out.... Tom is out there but hiding right this minute. He does not like getting wet but at least it isn't lightning or thundering, so think he might rather stay out. Tiger has already headed to the bedroom so will make up her mind about the time I crawl into bed. They really do believe I live just to do their bidding. They had their midnight snack and I started to eat a bite but it waits until I have a second to call my own.

Good night, sweet dreams and God Bless! Tomorrow is Tuesday so my head is already messed up! Hugs to all.  Shirley

Good afternoon all - it is a sunny day here on Deeside, the birds are singing in the woods opposite, and the brook is gurgling away.

I finally got my car back yesterday evening, so I am mobile again, though of course we are not supposed to go anywhere much.

All I have accomplished so far today is making a chilli for dinner, collecting Gracie's meds from the vet (Shirley - I too am a slave to the feline, though only one these days. Gracie demanded food what felt like every 5 minutes this morning, though thankfully she is now having a snooze), and doing laundry. I will go for a walk soon - I tried going earlier yesterday though, and I spent my entire time getting out of the way of mad keen cyclists who do not appear to know the meaning of social distancing.

Last night I watched an episode of The Mallorca Files - it is a detective series set in Majorca/Mallorca, and very easy viewing. My husband thought it was ridiculous, and of course it was, but sometimes I just want something undemanding :)

I have also done my weekly return for the British Ornithology Trust's Garden Birdwatch - I have realised that I report almost exactly the same birds every week, always robins, blackbirds, blue tits, sparrows, jackdaws, woodpigeons and mallard ducks, and sometimes also the heron, a grey wagtail or a chaffinch. I suppose at least that means the regulars must approve of my garden.

I heard from a friend this week who is doing the shopping for her mother, who lives in a bungalow on very lovely retirement development near here.  The mother is not that old, and still drives, but she is a very nervous person and her husband did absolutely everything for her until he died a few years ago - as a result she needs Karen to do even little things (even in normal times, when she does go out to meet friends, etc) like getting money from the ATM. When the lockdown first started Karen had a lot of trouble trying to persuade her to stay home, but now she is too terrified to go out, and Karen is just hoping that she will be able to overcome this when it is safer. It would limit her life a lot if she felt unable to socialise. I do think this is going to be a problem for many people, at least at first. Meanwhile my own mother is champing at the bit to get out, and I don't think she is quite aware of how long she may have to wait, given her age. I am not going to say anything for now - hopefully we will soon at least be able to visit and take her for a drive in the car.

I hope you all have a good day.

Rosemary

Have to just say "Hello".

I have been up a long time, but have not got much done.  Spend more time trying to get a Walmart order to go through.  My computer just didn't want to cooperate.  Finally got through to them on the phone, and it had gone through. Although it didn't show up on my account.  But, it already had been put on my Discover card account.  And, I was assured it did go through.

Jane, I will add my " number 86 " to your total.  Maybe we can get it up to " 1,000". eventually.

I just had a birthday the first part of May, so I don't have any extra numbers to add to it now.  That will make  " 652 "  the total now.  I kept forgetting to add it on,

I know Shirley and I are just about the same age.

IT is getting close to my lunch time,  since I ate breakfast a little later this morning. I still have a slice of pizza left  over from the other day, so that will be my lunch.

Have a great day and stay safe.

Good morning 🌞  EVERYFRIEND  🌞

It is a beautiful morning here in the Mile High City 💐 Everything is so green and beautiful out my sliding glass door.  It is still a bit too cool to open it and head out on the deck, but it won't be long until I can go out.

I sure enjoyed all of the posts this morning.

AMY, if only I could be one of the lucky people to come by and pick up a thug/trug🤣🤣🤣🤣 I do smile as I think of how happy Kyle is to make them and how much everyone enjoys them!  I hope you find some nice tomato plants today.

ROSEMARY, I like your word "undemanding", and I plan to use it the next time I try to explain why I only want to watch a simple comedy rather than a detailed show!  Bless your friend that is having to do so much for her mom.  Happy for you to have your wheels back again.  Sadly, many today do not seem to care much about trying to social distance.  After watching the world news last night, I have to admit the way people are going to beaches, etc. and showing no caution at all, I am fearful all of our quarantined time may be going down the tube very quickly.  I think a lot of people are going to have trouble feeling safe to go out again.  I hope you will be able to take your mama for a drive soon😻

JOY, I think a lot of people are sharing your "fluky" mood these days.  This is one CrAzY world we are living in right now.  I am happy you were able to get out to the produce stand, but I know you were disappointed to not find many vegetables.  Soon, I hope!  Take care of your self😘

ROLY, happy to read the nurse was happy with how well you are doing.  Keep it up now and feel stronger every day.

Nice to see your quick post, MARY.  Did you get a lot of rain down your way?

I suppose I COULD put LLOYD in there on our experience list because I'm pretty sure he's 82 and that would bring our total up to 744!

Are they still teaching the "New Math"?  I recall my younger son doing a division problem with "New Math". It looked like he was using a whole sheet of paper for each problem. I showed him how to do Long Division and he thought it was much easier. Then we went on to Short Division. After he got into carpentry he seemed to have his own way of doing math.
If you're still adding years of experience you van have my 86.

Well, Rick, I'm signing off same time you posted only an hour later CST.... I've never been too good at math. I did learn the "new" math when my daughter had it in grade school, but much like I had been doing all my life. Sort of rounding off or up with the numbers & then subtracting what was needed to make it accurate. Now everything is "close enough for me!"

Today has been a corker, phones dropping calls constantly, try talking to a company that put a new roof on the RV last Sept/Oct to see what they will do about it leaking (think it was $7,000-$9,000 cost to completely replace because of hail. It was MY fault because I didn't do "routine maintenance" like sealing the skylight. I'm sure the guy told me it was good until next fall...today it was good for only 6-7 months and they put it on a little over 7 months ago. They did agree to re-seal it next week. I found moisture in the storage compartments on the opposite side of the RV yesterday when sorting... so water damage from roof to all parts under that sheeting.

Cox can't seem to find why my calls drop even after I bought new phones and a new top of the line router, and the re-made eye glasses are not working out at all, when looking out the door I notice the door facings are curved until I take glasses off. Not sure how that will affect driving.  :o  I called to talk to the place that made the glasses and was giving them my cell phone number since the calls had been dropping all day...got cut off and they wouldn't pick up on a call that shows "unknown". I gave up & drove to the store & swapped glasses back with the first pair, doors didn't curve with them, but they had put in a bifocal that I couldn't see out of at all. I don't need glasses to read but for distance & the bifocal was to see distance like the speedometer, didn't work.

Then to top off my great day, the rotisserie chicken I bought for the cats yesterday, they wouldn't eat a bite of tonight! They came inside to eat, smelled what it was & walked away. They are so spoiled. I put all 3 dishes out in the pool area and watched as they let a stray cat come in and clean out every bowl! I didn't give them more until just now, they got their midnight snack of splitting a can of Friskies salmon.

Guess I'd better shut up & go to bed, got up very early to help #1 son change oil in the RV and change oil in the RV generator. He will check tires & hydraulic fluid before we go to Colorado, I do insist paying him more than the dealer charges, but he is more thorough than they are!

Now it is after midnight, been sitting here thinking more than an hour. My daughter is driving in tomorrow, first time since we met in KC for my brother's funeral & that was the last week of any type getting out because of the virus. Tomorrow is going to be better, I got out a box of Russell Stover turtles as a special treat.... bought them 75% off after Easter & put in the little frig downstairs. Nothing makes the day happier than a pecan turtle! Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Good morning - it is another fine sunny day here on Deeside. Yesterday I had two great walks, the first along the Dee, where I saw the heron standing nearer than he had ever been before, totally unbothered by my presence, and the second along the old railway line.

Roley - whereabouts do you and your granddaughter live? I am in Scotland, and in past times have seen dolphins swimming off the coast of Cullen, a fishing town on the NE coast.

Shirley - I am so sorry so many things went wrong yesterday.  Whenever we have a problem with our landline phones, I call British Telecome (who are the absolute WORST company in the UK in my opinion) and all you get is a call centre somewhere in Asia from which someone reads out instructions. If you try to ask questions they are unable to deal with them and just keep repeating the same incomprehensible technical jargon. You are told (at least I think you are told...) to do various checks (most of which I don't understand) and only get back to them after that. If you then call them out and they deduce that the fault is not theirs, there is an automatic call out charge. I hate them with a vengeance. When you go onto their website to try to find the answer to your problem (as they repeatedly tell you to do during the interminable and expensive wait for the one available person) all you get are endless pages telling you why you should upgrade to faster internet - fundamentally BUY something. None of these companies want to deal with cheapskates like me who only want the basic service. Goodness me, I sound more and more like my mother every day....!

And I do hope you get your glasses sorted, that all sounds so annoying. The last time my husband got new glasses he had to take them back and get different ones, he was not impressed with Specsavers - whereas I use a different branch and that one has always been excellent.

Amy - I don't know how you do so much stuff every day!  I didn't even get out ofbed till past 10 this morning (though was awake form 5.30am).

Have a great day everyone,

Rosemary

Me again - I am so sorry but I have forgotten who it was who was talking about their connections to Scotland via the mining industry. I just wanted to let you know that our central library did a blog post yesterday inviting people to email them with their local and family history questions, as they are still working away doing research. So I sent them your information and I will let you know if they come up with anything.

Good Morning everyone. well I am up but not at them. I do not breath well anymore. and I do not know where common since went? when I was in high school was algebra was the math, I could not master it either, just simple add & subtract and divide was a load for me, was not good English student either. I was more look and see and do.if i see you do something I could do it also and usually as good and sometimes better. I went to work after school and weekends in a blacksmith shop cranking the hand blower on the forge and stoking the fire in it at seven years of age, and forge welding, with iron shaving's and 20 mule team borax, yes you ladies used it as dish and laundry soap. when not working in blacksmith shop helped my brother deliver papers and grocery's and mow yards for older people in town. Have a good day.

Another dreary, cloudy morning with rain predicted.  I'm just going to stop looking out the window and pretend that it is a bright, sunny day.

Rosemary, your British Telecom sounds just like all of our cable TV companies and that is why so many, me included, have "cut the cord" and no longer subscribe to cable tv.  The frustration level was just too high to live with.  I have gone to the indoor antenna for local stations and, also, depend on streaming channels (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Roku) for all the rest.  I just keep cable connection for my Internet and house telephone.  It works out pretty well for me.

I managed to get some laundry done yesterday but didn't make bread.  Not a very good day.  I'm going to try to get to it today since I think it might be a better day for me and I notice the cookie supply is getting low so I need to get some into the oven, as well.  We'll see how it goes.  No other plans except David will pick up my grocery order today.  It looks as though they have fulfilled everything I requested.  I think the supplies are getting back to a more normal level now.  Some stores and other places have opened.  We are in Phase 2.  There are a few problems but for the most part people are abiding by the rules...keeping distances, wearing masks, being intelligently cautious about getting back to the "new" norm.

MAKE it a good day, Everyone.

Good Morning Everyfried!  I'm up but still working on "attem".  I've had breakfast, fed Mickie and Cooper (Frankie's dog), took Mickie for her morning walk and read the paper.  I'm ready for whatever pokes it's head out and begs for notice.

Yesterday was cleaning day.  I swiffered all my new floors, did a bit of dusing and sweeping and then told myself it looked pretty good.

It's 72º right now heading for a high of 80.  Yesterday it made it all the way up to 88!  I broke down and turned on the A/C for a couple of hours to cool things down.

Now for the update....

Janie, if mileage counted we'd be over the top! I hit the floor running this morning because the yard guys called to say they'd be here "in a few".... and I wasn't dressed yet!  Gates to unlock & a long drain pipe to remove that takes rain gutter water further away from the house. Usually I like to trim a little around my flowers since they aren't sure what is a weed or flower. I do not have formal landscaping. ::)  I put out packages of mixed flower seeds & always delighted with the different types of blooms, most I remember from my mother's flower beds, but she knew the names of all of them.  ;)

Decided it was time to defrost the freezer in the basement so got out the hose to stretch from freezer to drain in the next room. I unplugged and by the time I got all the food out & into big coolers to store until done, usually takes a full day or even 2, it was splashing out the freezer door. It was draining out faster than the hose could take, that room has parquet flooring that has been needing taken up since the last water break soaked it. Anyway, all the years of defrosting freezers, this is the fastest EVER to melt it all off. I still have a load of towels in the dryer & 2 more loads to run, my supper is beeping at me from the microwave (Taco Bell Mexican pizza). My daughter brought me a tub of her homemade salsa, is it ever good! Think it might make that Taco pizza taste even better.

Tom & Callie Cat ate a few bites of their chicken tonight, Tiger refused to come in, they must have told her what I was serving.  >:(   I am uneasy since we have baby birds running all over the yard, front & back, with Mama searching for bugs & worms for them. So far I haven't found any feathers in the yard.

Have to get up & move, eat, fold clothes & clean up the kitchen. Bed is calling, you could probably hear if you turn your ear toward Kansas! Sweet dreams to all and God Bless! Shirley  (Thanks for keeping track of all this great experience, Jane!)

I'm on my way to bed, too!  I'm really tired.  I love it when Frankie comes over.  She helps me with stuff and we remember the past together.  We laugh a lot while we're remembering and I like that.

Mickie has an appointment with the Groomer on Friday and it's kind of early in the Frankie's morning so her doggie, Cooper will stay here tomorrow while she's working and then she'll spend the night here before she takes Mickie for grooming on Friday.

I have one more thing to post before I go to bed but first I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Now I have an announcement to make.  I just noticed that GLORIA isn't on our "experience" list yet and I think she's 3 years older than me.  So I'm adding 88 years to the list in GLORIA'S name.  And that make our total 1006 1/2!  Just think what we could accomplish if we all got together!!

Good morning everyone..
Going to be another hot day here..

We are off to the city ,just a quick trip in and out. Do what needs to be done ,meet up with son and exchange parcels and meet up with our friend from quilting and give her two huge bags of wool to make things for the cats/kittens at the humane society.

Jane, JANE,  the pumpkins are up............a looooong row of them!!! I sure hope we get to see pumpkins this year.

Rosemary, with two dogs there is always chasing dust bunnies here and good weather brings gardening and any time now our load of wood will come and we have to pile it.

Shirley, I must admit that is one job I have been putting off. Although with this hot weather working in the basement where it is nice and cool is looking not too bad now.

Gloria, hope you pop in and say hello.

Phyllis, the bread I made the other day is just about gone. Maybe tomorrow I will make more....always a tomorrow :))

Lloyd, you have worked hard all your life, now is the time for you to relax and enjoy life.

Better scoot and water the front garden, have the hose going on the back garden.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good afternoon everyone, we have another sunny day here on Deeside, and my daughter tells me that in Edinburgh it is 'roasting' - though I doubt if any of you would agree, in Scotland anything above freezing may be called 'roasting'...

Amy - I stopped making bread because I couldn't stop myself eating it, it was so lovely. Now I do still have bread with some meals, but I buy it from the Co-Op, where they do good rye bread and multigrain loaves as well as the usual ones.

Today I should be doing more reviews and needless to say all I have done is a few chores and a lot of communicating online with family and friends.

My elder daughter tells me she is thinking of giving up her job and starting a postgraduate teacher training course in the autumn. She has already tried teacher training once, but ill, and left. This time she would go to college for the more traditional course, which involves some blocks of teaching practice in schools, but is mainly college-based. My husband will have a fit if he hears she is considering changing yet again, but she is still young (25) and has no dependants, so I suppose she might as well do it now if she is going to. She has a very nice long term boyfriend and he is supportive of the idea - he is an organist and is supposed to be starting a new job at a church and school in London in the early autumn, so I just hope the job still happens and that churches are open by then. The Vice Provost at the cathedral in which I work in Edinburgh told me she does not think it will be properly functioning till after Christmas.

Shirley - defrosting the freezer is one of my least favourite jobs. I always hope I can get David to do it. It's having all that food out and nowhere to put it that drives me nuts. I did clean one of the fridges out the other day - that is bad enough but at least it only needed cleaning, it is frost-free thank goodness. The freezer in the garage is all iced up and at the moment I am just pretending I haven't noticed.

Tonight is the last programme in the current series of The Real Marigold Hotel. I think this has been one of the best series - if they had not invited Britt Ekland along it would have been perfect. These programmes have returned more to the original idea, which was to see what people thought about the possibility of retiring to India, which does of course have a much lower cost of living than the UK. The last two series seemed to have forgotten all about that and just showed the participants visiting various places and trying out new experiences, but this time they are again looking at retirement apartments, activities for seniors and so on, and it is very interesting. I don't think I would ever be brave enough to retire anywhere but Scotland, but some of the people in the programme do seem to like the idea, especially Henry Blofield who, as a cricket commentator, has already visited the country many times and has lots of friends there. However, he recently remarried an Italian lady and they live in London, so he would have to see what she thought too!

Have a good day all,

Rosemary

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem since about 5:30.  Mickie said she needed to see what was going on outside and there was no putting her off.  She really meant it.  And she left a present for me to clean up.

AMY, you sure did get the pumpkin seeds in earlier this year.  I'll say a little prayer that they do well and you have pumpkins this fall.  Don't shoo away the bees from them.  They have to pollinate!

Just waiting for Frankie to surface this morning.  She said she needs to be on the move by 9 to get everything done and be on her way to work to be there at noon.

I stripped my bed this morning and the sheets are in the dryer.  The mattress pad is next and then to remake it.  I was going to put the pillows out in the sun to air out but there's not suppose to be any sun today.  We're expecting rain.  So they're on the porch swing for now.  Hopefully that will be enough.

I made macaroons yesterday and put the finished product in two containers...my cookie jar and a container for Frnkie to take home with her.  What didn't fit the boxes, I put on a plat or eating and would you believe?  Someone ate all of them!  There had to be a dozen there.  Do you think the elves sneaked in and ate them all?

I'm wishing you a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with all of us!

WE have been watching all the protests across the country tonight due to the death of the man in Minneapolis.  I understand that this is a very sad situation and people are, user, but what good does it do to cause so much damage AND give the police so much grief?  It makes me very sad and quite ILL to be honest.

Today is Dave and Michele's 26th Anniversary and tomorrow is our other DIL'S Birthday, so we kept quite busy getting gifts together and delivering them.  The day really passed quickly.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone, another night of god sleep and did not sleep so long that I was stiff when I woke. Don't  know wha t happened with Skype but a couple of days ago it quit so no chat with my daughter except on the phone nd I do not like talking on the phone much. Called my grandson and told him what happened. He told me to hang up and he would get rignt back to me. I got a message pop up  on the monitor and I did what it said and suddenly there was David looking at me. He finally got one of those programs where he can work on this machine from home, Love it I know he has one on his work phone so he fixes things around the world for the company he works for.
No matter what new password I came up with they did not like it so when he was in my PC and asked for a passwor  I asked him if he cou ld come up with one and it was accepted. I was wathing him and suddenly I saw a little hnd next to him and then my great grand's face. He said Hi great grandma, I love you. Sure made my day.

JANE  thanks now I feel more like my age. Would not like to live any year over.

I need a new keeyboard and soon. No all work with this HP and this is an old Dell one my son had.Keeps skipping spaces and at times I don't think I catch them all and the words are broken up.

SHIRLEY  I would like  to bake like I used  to.

LLOYD  no fighting anywhere in the world would be wonderful.

JENNY  that cop kneeling on the mans throat should should get the same treatment. That was horrible to see and plain sadististic.

Oh boy did Yvette do good shopping yesterday gor some wonderful east peaches and some super great cherries from Ca. She had time making up the 2 hours missed on the holiday. She followed my list and it was the biggest one she had from me. I have a full fridge again.

Morning Jane and Amy when you check in

Havwe a good day and s tay safe.

Good morning everyone..
We had a lovely rain last night a much needed one at that!. Yesterday was fun. We met up with our friend to pass of the bags of wool then on to meet the kids. Exchanged what we had for each other including hugs! :smitten:  That was the best gift of all!

Today is making a garbage run and I want to be there right when it opens as we may get to see the bears. We were first last time but no bears......just a lot of what they left behind so you were careful where you stepped! Also time to put away the winter clothing and bring out summer ones. The transition went from freeze to fry....no easing into Spring/Summer.

Jane I planted a long row of pumpkin and by gosh I think every seed came up!! No killing of bees from me as I know how much we need them in our food chain. If a bumble bee gets in the house I live catch and take him out. Now having said that I do have to be careful around bees. I show a healthy respect to them from being stung in the past and a trip to the Dr.

Gloria, sounds like Yvette has you well stocked up for a while now. That is great that David has your computer set up to help you like that. My computer man had mine set up like that too but now he has retired :(

Roley, a good morning to you. Waving to you from across the pond. :hello:

Jenny Happy anniversary to Dave and Michele and happy birthday to your dil. Wouldn't it be nice to turn on the news and hear nothing but up beat news? No wars, no fighting no bad weather.......guess one can dream on.

Rosemary, I let my bread machine do all the hard work then take the dough out after it has risen ,put it in bread pans let rise again then bake. Works well for me.

Better get a hitch in my get along and get moving here.

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

I'm right here with you, Gloria. I've been up for an hour & half at least, Fitbit says I got 3 hours & 13 min sleep (not one minute of deep) so nap sometime today. My daughter is in town so chaos, we jump from subject to project & enjoy every moment.... and I wish your daughter was closer to do the same. She did get my iPad and Fitbit updated.

Jane, my daughter was telling about her daughter visiting with them the last few days, with her 7 month old pup. I'm still not sure if it is pure or part German Shepherd, but my daughter had forgotten about how much hair they shed every day! They have an extra layer of fur that must be brushed off every day and still leave a trail behind! But I still want a dog.  :smitten:

It is 5:45 am already so betcha someone else will have posted when I get through making the adjustments to text here. Good morning, Amy... if you are up. Haven't had my breakfast yet, Callie & Tiger had their tuna and Tom just showed up at the door with his own meal. I opened the door to let him in & he had a mouth full of something. When I gave a disgusted "TOM" he took off around the other end of the pool area so I couldn't see him & take his prize away. He is a hunter, no question, and I hate it. The neighbors are pleased if the cats keep down the rabbit & mouse problems, but I don't like them bringing their meals home. Yuck. Kinda took the edge off my appetite.  >:(

Good morning to everyone else that shows up! Let's hear about your world! Can you believe it is Friday AGAIN?  Hey, you did sneak in, Amy, hope you get to see the bears. Oops, there is the 6:00 am alarm. Somehow I set it when putting in new batteries & don't know how to turn it off. We've had this "atomic" clock since before Cas died & he took care of these type things.  ::)

Good morning on yet another rainy day.  We are soaked.

Rosemary, I have tried to remember to mention to you that I had a very pleasant time a couple of days ago.  I subscribe to Amazon Prime Video and stumbled across a production of Rebecca starring Charles Dance as Maxim De Winter and Diana Rigg as Mrs. Danvers.  The book, Rebecca, has been my top favorite since I first read it back in the 40's and I've lost count of how many times I've read it so I am very critical of the movie/tv productions that I have seen.  (I hated the Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine movie version).  I liked this production very much.

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again."   can't get those words out of my mind!

I'm getting a little tired of staying isolated but I don't really have any place I would like to go.  With all this rain even a walk down to the corner and back isn't an option.  I baked some chocolate chip cookies but I wouldn't dare leave them out on a plate like you did, Jane.  I put them away in a tin to be portioned out for afternoon tea.  If I didn't do that all of those cookies would mysteriously disappear just as yours did.

Looking forward to continuing with your country walks, Roley.

Take care, All.

Well, were  moving and Frankie was getting ready to take Mickie to the groomer when she called to see if we forgot.  We said we were sorry that we had the wrong time written down and we could be there in 10 minutes.  She said that would screw up her whole day and we would have to reschedule so Mickie is still in need of a haircut.  Darn!

I had some good chicken broth left and Frankie had cooked pasta bows and didn't eat them all with sauce so I put together some chicken, corn and pasta soup for our lunch.  It was pretty good!

After Frankie left, I took Mickie for a short walk and then curled up on the couch for a longer nap.  I feel much better now than I did last night and this morning.

Phyllis, it doesn't really matter if the cookies are on a plate or in a jar.  That pesky elf can find them wherever they are!  Today, the jar is only 3 quarters full and it's going down fast.  I put a plateful in the Hidey Hole to share.  Help yourselves!  Enjoy!

AMY, I'm praying for a nice long row of pumpkins although I don't know what you'll do with all of them if they all develop!  You'll be palming them off on the neighbors come Fall!  Everyone in your area will be eating pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup and whatever!

I think I'll take a walk down to the corner to see if the mailman found my box today.  Sometimes he does and sometimes he forgets who I am.

I hope you are all having a good day, even those of you who haven't checked in.

GLORIA, I already checked in ahead of you but just a shortie!  Gotta tell you, my Computer Guys, fix my computer the same way your grandson does yours.  They actually built it and they keep it up to date for me!

Roley, I'm looking forward to your "walks".  Wish I could do it in person but this is next best!

Keep on keeping on, Everyone!

Good morning everyone..

Another lovely morning, cooler with not much humidity. We had rain yesterday, nice gentle one.
I am sitting here having a quiet giggle.......our pup loves to steal socks and he just took off with a pair that Kyle had put on his desk. Jesse, doesn't destroy the socks he just loves to carry them around. Man should know better to put them on his feet  :2funny:

Laundry and bake day also have friend coming to exchange groceries that we have picked up for each other.

Jane, I hope we get some pumpkins this year...have lots of folks to share them with too. David's Great Danes both love pumpkin in their food. They will only go to waist here not wasted.

Roley, thank you for the stroll will give it a look when I can relax and enjoy with my cup of tea.

Shirley, we didn't get to see any bears......maybe next time. If I tell folks that a high light of my day is going to the dump ,they give me a strange look. They don't realize all the critters one can see, turkey buzzards ,wings spread out drying themselves in the sun, eagles, herring gulls.......all kinds  of critters!

Better get going..

Enjoy your  day everyone.stay safe..

Good morning everyone...

It was brrr chilly last night but so nice compared to the hot weather with humidity we have had. Just hope we didn't get a frost last night..

Laundry hung on the line and dried before the rain came.

Met up with my friends and exchanged what we had for each other...she gave me some chives so I will share some with my neighbour and plant the rest.  Then we went to say happy 90th birthday to a man that Kyle worked with . Lots of people about but all staying the distance apart.

Today is  day of rest, I will plant the chives in a bit and help the neighbours take away the trug that we surprised them with .

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe/color]

Good morning everyone, yesterday was a lost day for me. Woke too early and came in here, turned on the PC and the TV went and laid in the couch and fell asleep. Phone woke me near noon, my son was here so let him in. He brought me a fruit salad and half a watermelon. I think my fridge has more fruit in it now than anything else. Good thing I like it. Made my bed and got dressed and back to the couch. Almost missed Skype with my daughter but she called and of course the phone woke me. All I know about yesterday is it was sunny.

Sunny now but perhaps not as warm as yesterday. Ran the AC, this one really cools it off fast. I only really just ran the fan on low and it shuts off at the temp I have it set for and it goes on when it heats up again. .So much better than that portable one.  We did have rain Friday nighht came down really fast and heavy. Not much to say.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning.  I, like Phyllis, am just checking in.   Too early for anything exciting to have happened.

Gloria, you sound just like me.  I do the same thing.  I get up and sit in the recliner, and it is not too long before I am asleep again.  I just hate being so lazy.  I have a lot of those "lost" days. I am really betting so depressed with all these terrible things that are going on in our country.  Just have to wonder how and when it is all going to end.

I need to get some breakfast.  Just wanted to say "Hi" !!

Good morning, Amy.  Almost missed you !

I've been in & out, when daughter is in town it is total chaos, love it, but nary a second to think.

Lloyd, I'll have to read back over posts because there was something I wanted to make a crack to you about but like you, I forgot what it was by the time I get around to posting!

Have to tell you about the birthday party for Amelia (6) last night, first time the kid cousins have been able to play at each other's house for months so they were having a ball, all 5 of them starting with the oldest, Jace (10?) Hadley will be 7 soon, Amelia 6, Carrick 3 and Kate nearly 3.... They stayed long after I came home because the kids were having so much fun, but "the hosts (Amelia & Kate) were upset because the other family got out the door without the kids getting to say a special good by. When Mom & Dad got the door open so the girls could run out, Amelia gave Hadley a big bear hug so Kate ran to Carrick and did the same. Carrick looked surprised and said, "Does this mean you love me?" and Kate looked him in the eye and said, "well, I guess so...."  Moms & Dads were laughing their heads off but nobody whipped out a camera in time, besides it was dark. Gives you a hint of what life is like with a bunch of great grands around.

Oops, daughter at the door, she picked up my Sam's supplies.

Well, I've been up and attem since a little after 5 a.m.  The day started out fine.  After Mickie had her pill and we were waiting for the boinger, we took a snooze on the sofa and she cuddled in like old times.  I loved and we didn't move until her hour was up.  Then we had breakfast and took our morning walk.  No one was out and it was beautiful and quiet out there.  A good start to the day.

When we got back, Mickie zonked again and got my second cup of coffee and read the paper end to end.  Then I did a couple of things in the kitchen and we had an early lunch.

After lunch, I got out the weed whacker and started to whack the growth around the fence that the lawn mower didn't reach yesterday.  The weed whacker didn't reach it either.  And the frustration began!  I tried everything I could think of to make it work and it wouldn't.  So I put it away and got out my scissors and did the worst of it where I can see it from the porch and it took me an hour.  I think I need a new weed whacker but I bet my home shoppe (daughter Cathy) won't want to do that for me.  She has a husband who does that sort of thing in her life and she's not comfortable shopping for yard stuff unless you can sit on it while you eat the stuff from the barbecue grill.  She's a master decorator but she doesn't like things like lawn mowers and weed whackers, etc.

Now I'm just sitting around feeling frustrated.  My son said the weed whacker worked the last time he used in on my trim but he had to keep coaxing it.  Now I'm trying to decide if I hire a guy to do the work and he brings his own stuff or I buy a new weed whacker to save my son some time.  And since I can't do either of those things today, I'll play Scarlett and "think about that tomorrow".

Nice to see some people here today.  Good Morning LLOYD, SHIRLEY, AMY, JOY, PHYLLIS, GLORIA and anyone who comes along later.  This place was DEAD yesterday.  There was a bigger echo in here than ever!

Now I'm going to go goof off!  I just don't feel like doing anything important!  We all have to goof off sometimes!  Maybe I'll even stuff my face with potato chips!

Enjoy the rest of your day Everyfriend.  And come back and share it with the rest of us!
