Turn Turn Turn
(Pete Seeger)

To everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven
A time to be born a time to die, a time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal, a time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven
A time to build up a time to break down, a time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven
A time of love, a time of hate, a time of war a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose, a time to rend, a time to sew
A time of love, a time of hate, a time of peace, I swear it's not too late

To everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven
To everything turn turn turn there is a season turn turn turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A good Sunday Night HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

I was not able to post this, so must have been trying to do it when you were setting up this nice new folder for us.  Than you.

We had a nice morning enjoying the beautiful weather.  This afternoon we had a very nice social distancing visit with our family.  I love seeing them and being able to talk, but oh how I miss the hugs and kisses.

JANE, I feel your frustration regarding the issue with your weed wackier.  It seems the more I try to do stuff myself these days the more troubles I have.  I can imagine you,out there wit( scissors doing your trimming🤣

GLORIA, it seems your new A/C is doing a great job for you.  I guess you did not get any grief from the "old bag"?

AMY, I need a fantastic gift for Michele's 50th Bday this coming week and I would give just about anything if I could give her one of Kyle's wonderful trugs.  She would LOVE it.  Today when we were at their home we saw all the little plantings she is going to plant tomorrow and wouldn't it be nice if she had one to plant in rather than on her knees on the ground? 😘

This is night 4 of the awful rioting here in Denver.  There is a 8PM to 5 AM curfew but here it is nearly 10 PM and there are still hordes of them out there rioting.  So sad and totally unnecessary.  They do so much damage and it is just awful.  These are not the marchers that are marching in support of the passing of Mr. Floyd...these are just no good THUGS🤬

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Foggy out there and it is starting to warm up again. Yesterday was a good day for a day of do nothing it didn't turn out that way.
I found strawberry Jello and made two batches of jam. The neighbour came and we helped load the trug and set it in place in their garden.

Today is run into town ,pick up ink and more jello for more jam. May make a batch of rhubarb muffins .

Bubble, thank you for the new start. Hummed away while reading Turn Turn Turn :)

Jenny, sad with what is going on in this beautiful world.

Jane......enjoy your day.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 58 here now, not even a fan on during the night.

LLOYD  the governor here is slowly opening some things but if anyone breaks the rules she will shut them down again. Now the manager here wants us to put a mask on to answer our door if anyone knocks.

JOY  with me I think I am bored. I cannot do any cooking or cleaning anymore so what else is left but to sleep? I sure hate this. No one can socialize in here anymore and I think everyone iswating for the day she opens all the doo rs on the main floor  and gets the fur nitur e back in the lobby and on the por ches so people can get together  again. This way it does get lonesome.

JANE  at least you have Mickie for company. You can still get out when you want. I have not been away from this building since New Year's day. Glad I see both sons, one every Saturday and the other calls often, and of course the Skype chat every day.  Getting too hot walking around the parking lot on the black top with the sun beating down on it. Only time the sun does not bother me is on a cold day.

SHIRLEY  on the first hot day in spring I start looking forward to autumn. Only thing I like about summer it the fresh local fruit and tomatoes.

BUBBLE  I did not realize that today was the first of June. Wondered why you were starting a new page at the end of May. Time for me to wake up? Great graphics and stories, never knew all the wor ds of Turn Turn Turn. I like. Thank you.

JENNY  laughed at your "old bag" reference. Should be more like old WITCH. i REALLY  THINK SHE DOES NOT LIKE US ELDERLY PEOPLE.
MY  daughter was telling me yesterday that in the town of La Mesa in San Diego they had riots and burned the whole business district and all the looting going on. This is a affluent place but they  did not burn any homes. So sad these days.

JANE we are still on line.

AMY  keep your strawberry jam but the rhubarb muffins sound so good.

Have a good day and stay safe.

G'Morning, Another great day weather wise, we could manage with some rain though, it has been a very dry spring this year, a good shower now will do the Gardens a lot of good, especially here in the South of the UK, what a surprise I had when I read 'Denvers' use of the word 'Trug' that is an old 'Sussex' word dating from Saxon times and still made and used here in Sussex, they make great display pieces filled with summer blooming plants,
especially when displayed outside of old cottages, we use one when we go 'P Y O' fruit picking around local farms, I used to grow Trailing Lobelia's in them when I was a keen gardener along with miniature Hyacinths they always made a great display hanging on the wall in the front garden.
SO good hunting Denver, I hope you find just what you are looking for, you might find some interesting facts about the 'trug' on YouTube.

Haha, Gloria, I wondered if you were still with me, wishing for fall & winter with the first heat of summer!  It feels steamy hot today, guess we better find some safferass tea to thin our blood.

Peter, I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed the latest "stroll" in your old neighborhood. It reminded me so much of where we lived in Marlow, Buckinghamshire back in the mid '50s. I turned 21 when living there so don't expect anything or anyone like it was, not even me! Thanks.

Have errands to run so better get a move on or might fall asleep. Afraid hot weather turns me into a mole and want to sleep the day away. Wishing ALL a happy day......

Hey, Bubble, thanks for the clean place to land plus gorgeous graphics & words.

Good morning everyone. I am supposed to get my haircut later this morning. YIPPEE. My DIL will be coming over to do that job. It was the beginning of April last time she did that. With my shoulders getting worse it just gets harder  to make hair look OK. If I could reach up to put a wig on I think I would get my head shaved and wear a wig. Well demonstraters hit Providence last night. Don't know how much damage yet.

ROLEY-PETER  we had a very wet spring here and now we are doing fine but come hot weather we will be praying for rain. I enjoyed the stroll you gave us the other day. So interesting to see buildings that old and remember how young our country is compared to yours.

SHIRLEY  when we had our house we had a lot of sasafrass trees around. Even my 3 would break a twig off and walk around chewing on it for the flavor.

What no one else posted except Bubble this morning? Helloooo.

Have a good and safe day.

Good rainy morning everyone..
Nice soft rain falling and I don't have to water the garden or plants

We are off to the cheese factory this morning, Kyle is out of his Old Sharpe cheese and a day trip will be nice.

Muffins did get made and gave rhubarb to the neighbour to make hers.

Gloria, the strawberry jello powder gives the rhubarb colour and a wee bit of flavour. I have also use raspberry (my favourite) instead. I bet orange would taste good too.

Bubble here you go. Can you get rhubarb there?

Heavenly Rhubarb Jam
5 cups of rhubarb  chopped fine
4 cups of sugar
1  -  20 oz can  of crushed pineapple
2 packages strawberry jello.   I like mine a bit thicker so add 3 pkgs.

Mix first 3 ingredients and boil 20 min.Stir in jello until dissolved and cook 5 min.
Bottle in hot sterilized jars.
Put in fridge after opening.

Better get ready to go out...

Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone..

I am going to cut some of them down in size and fasten them together and put the tubs from my old raised beds on them and make them a better height so Nancy and i both can work them easier. they have bows over them so to protect the plants with a venial cover on them. Gloria do not be to proud to have someone cut and fix your hair, we have paid our dues like you tell me, Have a good day.

well I looked in pantry and fond no sassafras bark in there. Nancy is good or bad about thoroughgoing thins away when cleaning up especially if it is not of her best taste. so i will have to soon go down south and cut some more. have a great day. and AMY thanks for the recipe. I love tart things so rhubarb pie is in good taste.

Good afternoon everyone!

First - Peter, thank you so much for the links for websites about your area, and i am so sorry not to have been able to get back to you till now (see below).  I will pass them on to my mother, I know she will be interested.

I have not been able to post for a couple of days - on Sunday my husband turned all the power off to install new extractor fans, and when it finally went back on my computer was completely confused, and it took David till last night to sort it out. Plus I needed to change my password on my gmail programme as it might have been compromised, tried to do that and all I got was more grief!  Every email address I put it was apparently wrong, every phone number 'did not exist'. In the end David sorted that as well - he said gmail and googlemail had got themselves muddled up, which was a bit rich when it was googlemail that nagged and nagged until I updated to gmail!  But at least it seems OK now.

We had some not great news on Friday - my father-in-law, who is 90, has dementia and is in a very nice care home near to my sister-in-law in Hampshire, was diagnosed as having coronavirus. He has had many chest infections and urinary infections over the last little while, but it was very strange as no one else in the entire home had any symptoms, and although I appreciate that people can be asymptomatic, these residents are mostly very old and ill, with very compromised immune systems. The GP had not been able to do a test, but as FIL was so ill and not responding, the carers were instructed only to give end of life care, it morphine. My sister-in-law was allowed one visit, for which she had to wear full protective gear. My husband and his brother are of course a long way away, and even if they had travelled, they would not have been allowed in. Then on Saturday FIL started to improve, and even ate a little. The GP finally managed to arrange a test, and it came back negative. They now think the symptoms were associated with the chest infections. It must have been such a relief to the home staff, who have worked so hard to keep the virus out. FIL is still continuing to improve, though the GP has advised that he is unlikely to live much longer. Really everyone just wants him to be comfortable and not suffering. The GP wishes to have the test repeated, but we imagine that is mainly to make extra sure for the care home - and of course this is very important.

Apart from that, I have just been trying to carry on with the reviewing, writing, reading, gardening, and walking. My elder daughter thinks she will have to be back in London by the end of July for her job, and at present she does not have anywhere to live down there, so it is a bit of a worrying time for her. My youngest was able to meet up with her best friend for a socially distanced walk this week, which they both enjoyed - she had not seen Imogen for more than 2 minutes at a time since March.

Lloyd, Gloria and Shirley - I have no idea what sassafras is!  There used to be a man in Petticoat Lane market who sold a drink called sarsparilla I think - are they related?

Amy - I love rhubarb - when i was a child we used to grow it on our allotment - but it is expensive to buy in the shops here. I don't know why, as it grows easily in the UK.

Has anyone else seen the series A Place to Call Home?  I started watching it on Prime, and was soon hooked, it is an interesting story - set in Australia in 1953.

It is cloudier here today, I think it may be raining but I will still go for a walk soon. When I looked out the window the heron was fling along just above the brook, so beautiful.

I hope everyone is having a good day,

Rosemary

Just stopping by for a few minutes.

There probably isn't many who still post here that remembers Bobbie Gould.  She had been part of the old Senior Net and I am not sure if she ever joined in the messages for the Seniors and Friends group.  She had been sick for a long time with breathing difficulties.  I met up with her not long after I first joined the  old Senior Net.  And, we became really good friends over the years.  I had not heard anything from her for a while now. She had been in a nursing home for a good while now.  Her daughter, Mandy, posted on Facebook this morning, that her mother had passed away.  And, she hadn't been able to go see her because of the nursing home restriction of no visitors.  It  is a very heartbreaking time for her.  Any of you that remember Bobbie,  will always remember her and her faithful companion, January,?She and her dog traveled all across the US in her car. She had converted her car into a very comfortable "home" and she told wonderful stores about all the people she was meeting all along the way.  Many times, it would be just her and the dog all by themselves in the woods. Some of us always encouraged to write a book about her travels, but she never got around to it. She was a very talented lady. I know those of you who remembers her will keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time for them.

Nothing special going on today.  Same old thing !!!

Have a good day.

JOY, thank you for the news about Bobbie.  I also had the pleasure of meeting her.  Her travels brought her through this area and she spent 2 nights and two days here with me.  Her January and my Bonnie became good doggie friends, too.  We really had a good visit and I'm so glad I didn't miss that one!  I'm sorry she's gone but she's in a better place now!  I do think of her often and I have a picture of her and January sitting in my living room.  She will be missed!

For anyone planning to drink sassafras tea, do some research to see if you should not drink IF YOU ARE TAKING A BLOOD THINNER! Old Arthur Godfrey used to talk about drinking it every spring and that was the reason, to thin the blood after a cold winter. I think it is the roots that are boiled for the tea. We had the trees growing "down the hill" from our house when we lived in Jefferson City, MO.  I used to have a link to check meds that conflict with other meds or even foods (like never drink grapefruit juice if you take BP meds, only I think that restriction was changed to within 2 hours). Also don't take Tums or any neutralizer within a couple hours or it reduces effect of meds, aspirin, etc. My husband took a mound of pills every day and was convinced that was what kept him alive. On the other hand, I don't take any, even though my BP is high, cholesterol is high, etc... because I'm convinced it is normal for me. My heart rate is very high, usually around a 100 bpm when not doing anything. But has been all my life. I end up with terrible side effects and quit trying any different meds. We didn't try to tell each other how to take care of ourselves because we both thought WE were right.  ::)

Rosemary, I remember in old western movies talk about ordering a drink called sasaparilla, so did a quick Google & found they sell Sarsaparilla Root Tea (I don't recall hearing the "r" when they ordered the drink in a bar)... but didn't find if it is related to sassafras.

Nothing to show for my day so far. It is hot & humid, have the AC on. Have to cut back the dead iris today but will wait until evening, also need to water flowers & young trees. Have not tried my sprinkler system so far this year, know one side of the front yard has a couple heads that need to be pulled to dump sand and the line along the driveway has been driven over & broken, a curved drive & hard to back out. I bought the expandable hose that stretches to 75' but don't leave it out all the time. We have at least half a dozen of the rubber "lifetime" hoses but they are so heavy I won't mess with them. My husband loved to work in the yard, had all the equipment you could buy, but too big for me to use, he was 6'2" to my not quite 5'2".

Supposed to get near 100 degrees this week and I do have to take the RV to the place that put the new roof on last fall.... for them to reseal the skylight. I get angry every time I think of having to do that, you'd think their job would last at least a year!  :knuppel2:

Oh, Jenny, I called the Ranger Station yesterday & we are good to go! Fire ban lifted & rest rooms open!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear the news about Bobbie, Joy. I met her when she stayed overnight in one of the Walmart parking lots in Wichita many years ago. Took her some soup I'd made and a big meal for January. My husband was not up to visitors so easier for me to meet her. She left town & went through Greensburg, KS within hours before a tornado wiped out the whole little town. I tried to call her but never did get to talk to her when I learned she was in a nursing home.

FYI-----Sassafras is a plant. The root bark is used to make medicine.

Despite serious safety concerns, people use sassafras for many conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

In beverages and candy, sassafras was used in the past to flavor root beer. It was also used as a tea. But sassafras tea contains a lot of safrole, the chemical in sassafras that makes it poisonous. One cup of tea made with 2.5 grams of sassafras contains about 200 mg of safrole. This is about 4.5 times the dose that researchers think is poisonous. So, in 1976, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled that sassafras could no longer be sold as sassafras tea.

Joy, I was so sorry to hear about Bobbie passing.

We were also good friends and I avidly followed her adventures across country.  I kept all her journal entries and pictures.  Unfortunately I lost them all when my old computer crashed.

Another SeniorNetter y'all may remember was "Maril" from the LA area.  She also travelled like Bobbie and the two of them spent part of a winter in Slab City, California which really was interesting.  Sandy, did you ever get to Slab City in your travels?

Bobbie's van broke down in Ft Worth when she was heading home and she spent several months with another SeniorNetter Alice Wyatt until her van was fixed.  My daughter Cathie and I met them for lunch and a good visit.

Christmas Eve 2014 she drove to Canton, OH to get a new dog which she named Holly. I remember her saying January would have approved of Holly :) .

I do not know all the In's and outs, but we only cut it in the winter when the sap is down. but we cut branches and strip the bark and or chunk it. and the tea is a blood thinner. I did not get in gear in time so next winter. have a good rest of the day and good night and sweet dreams.

Haha, Rick, if you have to ask............. :2funny:  Seriously, when I first took my sons camping without their father, their biggest deal was chopping down dead trees marked by Rangers with the orange paint, and building a fire. We saved birthday candles to light & start the small twigs, works like a charm. The fun was finding ways to make it all easier with very little "stuff", like we take along now. My husband was not a happy camper so I didn't force him, explained I wouldn't follow him around the golf course griping and he didn't go camping & grip the whole time...worked for us.

Our daughter never went camping but the boys love it & still try to outdo each other with some new toy each year. I'm along for the ride & get a chance to feed my boys, and we do eat good!

The rest rooms are so much nicer than when we first started camping, I'm really not into digging a "cat hole". Back in the early years we would tie a clothesline type rope around several trees and with clothes pins & a roll of black plastic, we would create our own bathroom with port-a-pot & a 5 gallon plastic sink that had a pump & drain hose so the water didn't get under foot.

I have a 28' 4-Winds Thor motorhome, self contained that the cats & I sleep in, the boys sleep in #1 son's Flagstaff A frame that takes only a few minutes to set up. They watch movies, have solar panels charge all day. When raining we eat inside my RV but the youngest has a super nice canopy with lights that covers the picnic table & we spend a lot of time out there. The boys grill out & I usually fix breakfast, biscuits, gravy, bacon, eggs & whatever else sounds good. This is MY treat so I insist on paying with the excuse "I'm spending their inheritance and getting to enjoy with them"...

Youngest son has been driving out with me & helps drive, our fav spot is about 550 miles one way. When I go to MO I drive by myself without any trouble, managed to not get any tickets in the 6 years with the bigger RV, but got one on last trip in Rialta. I was going UP a hill, slow person sight seeing (40mph) in right lane so had to pass & the guy kept speeding up, I was running out of highway near the top & cars behind so couldn't slow down... after the leveling out, that car with the red dinger on top pulled up behind me. I stopped & asked what's the matter?  He said I was doing 83 in a 65 zone. My comment, "really?!" to which he said, "I didn't believe it either so checked both radar guns". No need denying, I didn't look at the speedometer going UP the hill in a 15 year old Rialta motorhome. Cost me $220. Now I warn all travelers to watch for those passing zones, always a cop near. I didn't try to explain why, he knew there was no other choice or chance hitting an oncoming at the top. Ah, well.

In case some of you have never been camping, most campers are friendly, family types and just happy to be out. You can tell that I love it but can still feel Joan rolling her eyes at the thought. So, Rick, no connection but both important features.

Good afternoon everyone.

It rained in the night here and is cooler, I'm glad to say. In fact I have just noticed it is still raining now. I put a dish out last night to catch rainwater, as our vet told me Gracie (cat) must drink more, and gave me a leaflet that said some cats prefer rainwater. So far G remains unimpressed.

Last night we watched Paul O'Grady's For the Love of Dogs, which comes from the famous Battersea Dogs' Home in London. It always sets my husband off on his wish to have another dog, but that is not going to happen until and unless he retires I'm afraid. One of the homeless dogs they showed last night was adopted by Rod Stewart and his wife - that dog certainly fell on all 4 paws, their garden in Surrey was more like an estate, and Penny Stewart clearly loves dogs (she already had one before adopting the new one.)

I am going to make Pasta Puttenesca for dinner - the translation Delia Smith gives is 'Tart's Spaghetti' :)

Have a good day everyone,

Rosemary

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday was interesting,we struck out for the cheese factory only to find it didn't open until 11, we were there at 9:30. So off we went to the city..The highlight of reaching the city...they had washrooms open in Walmart!!!  Stopped at a grocery store that also  carries wholesale products for restaurants  and found the crushed pineapple.  Bought 4 100 oz cans  so now my friend and I have it along with 1lb bags of yeast for each of us. Thoroughly enjoyed our day out.

Our wood man called and said he would be on his way so we got ready for him moving things that may be in the way and opened the gate for him. Nice big pile of wood in the back yard that the pup is having fun with now. Then our friend phoned asking Kyle to build a trug for her granddaughter so  after we go pick up lumber my day  is pile wood .

Better get a move on it..slept in again. :)

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone. 58 now but forecast said going up to 78 this afternoon. Might have rain and thunderstorms later in the evening.
That is about all the news I have. Yes terday was a gloomy day, overcast all day and that is what I see when I look out now.

BUBBLE strawberries will be the first thing ripe here and that will be the beginning of July. Rhubarb around here is expensive now and so thin and limp not worth wasting money on.

JOY  I remember Bobbie and her wonderful pictures from around the country. When she was here in Rhode Island she came to see me with January. I asker to stay overnight but she wante to go to a campground. She was back for lunch the next day and I gave her a goodie bag to take with her. January was the most calm dog I think I ever saw and she would sit near me with her head on my lap so I could pet her. Bobbie was very interesting to talk with. Love the was she had the front seat in her van so she could see her computer as she was driving. She had the back packed so neat and on the drivers side she had her bed.

SHIRLEY  no grapefruit in any form when taking high cholesterol meds either. I do love the red/pink ones and never spoiled the taste with sugar. Sasparilla andd sassafras roots or twigs have the same flavor, similar to rootbeer. I used to love camping, no matter what I made for meals it tasted better than at home and after meals we all helped with the clean up. No matter where one camped in those days everyone was very friendly.

JANE  we get the rain and thunderstorms tonight.

Think I will go make my oatmeal, getting hungry.

Have a good day ans keep safe.

Gloria, and everyone that loves camping, think about it, maybe in that next life we can meet in a big campground and trade stories, good food & laughter. Sounds like Heaven to me! We are in the 90s this week so not happy, must sort out the stuff in the RV to be ready to roll tomorrow to get that sky light sealed again. Kind of forget that every single item must be in place, on the no skid mats so they don't fly around with every turn or stop. Wouldn't take much to make me want to sell it after this last trip to CO. But I would still like to have something like the old conversion vans we had before, that fit into a garage. Scarlett will worry about that tomorrow.

Amy, was telling my daughter about the trugs, she wants to grow tomatoes & garlic but her yard is very formal & taken care of by landscapers with no imagination for "outside the box". I think if she could get a couple of those to put in the right spots that would fill the urge to plant, don't you?  Do you line them with anything before putting in the dirt? I do think she will be looking for them as soon as she gets home so any tips appreciated.

Morning to all, hope it is a beautiful one where ever you are.

Good morning.

Mary from Texas,  yes,  I had become friends with Alice Wyatt, but I never did know Maril. I knew the name, but never had any contact with her.  Although, I remember Bobbie  talking about her.

Shirley, I am another camping fan.  And, I do so miss our camping days.  We started out in Boy Scout tents when our boys were younger, and graduated to bigger units over the years.  When my husband got sick, that ended our camping days.  We had such fun and met so many nice people.  We spent a couple months traveling the US, but never got as far as we would have liked to have gone.  We used to spend a couple weeks on the Outer Banks during a lot of summers.  The last RV we had was a travel trailer with a front kitchen, and I really liked that.  But, I think my favorite was our pop-up.  It was so open and airy and that is what we used to go to the Outer Banks with.  A little more compact than I would have liked, and I always wound up putting things back in different places and then couldn't find what I was looking for, but I really like the openness of it. Down on the Outer Banks it could be very hot, but with the ocean breezes, the curtains would be standing straight out.  At time time, we camped down at the very end of the island in Ocracoke.  It was very primitive camping at that time, but I really liked it.  We went back there, many years later, and found it a lot less primitive. More motels, and shops and more crowded.

So, you can count me in when you congregate up in the big campground in the sky. LOL

Amy, sorry you didn't get to the cheese shop.  I would love to go to a specialty cheese shop. I love just about every kind of cheese.  A local grocery store in our area,  Wegmans,  have a big selection of cheese, and it is always fun to see all the different kinds.

I have been up for a while now, so need to get myself moving.

Have a great day and be safe.

Joy

Several years ago, there was something called "International Cheeselovers Club". Right now, I can't remember the name of the guy who started it, but they would mail out a catalog/circular every month or so, and had wonderful cheeses (that I had never heard of or tried) for not an exorbitant bit of money.  I sampled many during those years, and really learned to like "real cheese".  Kraft American and Velveeta ceased to interest me!  My Kroger store and also the Tom Thumb have wonderful cheese sections, and I am amazed at the prices.  If you get a block or wedge big enough to last a bit, you've spent half your grocery $$.  I like Emmentaler and various Swisses, but the soft cheeses are so yummy; Brie and Camembert.  That's enough of that, I am now officially "cheese hungry".

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

I thought sure I posted yesterday morning, but I do not see it, so??

SHIRLEY, I am so happy the fire ban has been lifted.  Mark, Megan and Jonah are tent camping tonight at Chalk Creek Campground.  Their site is right on the creek. We are definitely going to check on staying in one of the cabins there when you are here so please send me details of the dates as soon as you can so we can get our reservations made.

AMY, sorry to read you were there much too early to get Kyle's cheese for him.

ROLY, it is AMY who first introduced us to trugs that her husband makes, so I learned the name from  her.  The ones her husband make are wonderful and we ALL wish we lived near by them so we could get her husband to make one for us.  She kindly share instructions to make one, so now allI have to do,is find someone that will do it for me 😘

Tonight is Michele's 50th Birthday Party.  They are having six couples over for a social distancing party.  Dave got little tables and chairs that are all separated and set up with each couples individual drinks and food.  Unfortunately a storm was moving in but we are hopeful that it went around them!  Good news is it cooled down so it will be a lot more comfortable for them.

JOY, thank you for sharing the news about Bobbi....although I never got to meet her I remember following her and January well on their travels.  She was a nice lady.

It is about time for you to come in and say goodnight, JANE.  I hope you have a great night of rest.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone, another waking at 3am but then I was sound asleep last night a little after 8:30. No rain last night, only 1 weather guesser kept saying rain. Today suppoed to get into mid 80's, an AC day for me.

SHIRLEY  I was much younger in my camping days. We had a tent did not have the comforts of home like your RV but still get out into the woods. Glad you have given your sons the love of camping and you can all go together.

JOY we used to go out near the end of Cape Cod, wonderful faily  campground and we could go swiming in the bay or in the ocean. Last time we went for our week there it had been sold and a bunch of noisy young people had taken over. We stayed the one night  and left.

JENNY  I have 1 son and my SIL who both could make a trug if they saw one ot had the plans for them. Son has a feeling for working with wood. He nade a waterbed and the design on the headboard is inticate and beautiful.  SIL is a train buff and has set up an outside one and has a layout in his hobby room. Always changing them but he took all the measurements for the house in Arizona, back to San Diego and got the wood and made all the parts to the cabinets and countertops. Back to Az. and installed all of them, fit perfect.

LLOYD  now why would we pick on you when you are behaving yourself and staying away from the machinery.

JANE  AMY  PHYLLIS AND ANYONE ELSE i MISSED, have a  great day and stay safe.

Well, short night here. Lloyd, I'll pick on you after your crack about no tickets & acting your age!  Did teach me a lesson, to watch out for those guys doing sight seeing so everyone has to go around them.... and then they speed up so cars can't get back in! Besides, if you ever drive in western Kansas (we checked quite a few of the passing lanes and found cops hiding, guess they discovered a new money maker, especially toward end of month & they haven't met their quota). At least I haven't backed into anything (so far). Don't pick on ME!  ;D

Gloria, in the early years we pulled an Appleby camper, just a tent on wheels. No stove or anything inside but we took an extra mattress for the floor & each boy had their own side to sleep on & I slept in the middle on the floor. We loved it & when I sold it years later the canvas was still like new and I proved to the first people that came to see, that I could put it up by myself. Got the same price we paid for it.  Only one gr-son that likes to camp and he plans to join us again this year.

Jenny, e-mail on the way after I post this. The first few days will be just the boys & me but Andy's wife plans to drive out mid week as well as their son & his significant other in separate cars. She came out last year and loved it. I think in an e-mail from the Lodge, that they will be open but not sure if everything is. We think their food is great but never get the same each year, menu changes. You will probably love the hot springs, people come from all over to soak in them.  Too hot for me, can't take the heat.

Must try to get more sleep today, just over 3 hours so far. Mind on having to take the RV back to have that sky light resealed. Bothers me that the guy would say I "should have done maintenance on it" months after having a new roof put on. Never crossed my mind. I was feeling good to think was one thing I didn't have to worry about for at least a few years! We'll see how it goes today, I don't like being bullied. Supposed to be pushing 100° today, but I hope to stay inside my RV while they work on it, no virus inside it!

Joy and everyone that loves being out camping, remember that in Heaven our bodies will be as youthful and comfortable as we can imagine. We'll talk non-stop! MY Heaven won't have mosquitoes or ants... or ticks!

Shirley and Gloria all I can say it is just human nature. But how dull life would be if we never teased each other. a female singer I do not rember who sang a song just put your man out on the street and watch him go when a little loving at home would made every thing alright. but hind sight is 20 20 or better. it is impossible for a woman to see a man's frustration when he is in the shop and her in the kitchen and vice versa. Patience is the best virtue. Have a great day. it is 68º and cloudy here calling for 85º and sunny here today. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone..

Lovely morning here but can feel it is going to be hot! We lost our power last night.haven't heard the reason why yet. We put the generator on and could watch tv  for a bit. We were both tuckered from the day so called it an early night. Kyle did finish the trug but I didn't finish the wood, that will be done today.

Joy, Jenny, I was in a hurry to get going yesterday and forgot to say we did stop in the cheese factory and Kyle did get his favorite cheese and some curds also.

Gloria, your son sounds like Kyle, mention something to do with wood and it is soon done.

Shirley, I am another one that loves camping. As kids Dad would set us up (tent, spare tent) and then head home while Mom and us kids stayed for a month at the site.  Hee hee, you tell him (Lloyd) ..we do love his to pieces and love to tease him too.

Rosemary, thank you for the site. Lots of interesting cheeses too! Dad and I loved Blue cheese.....not a taste for everyone though ,same as Stilton cheese.

Guess I had better get this body moving...

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Amy - my husband loves blue cheese, but I remember we once took a local blue cheese Strathdon Blue down to my in-laws as a gift. When we were leaving my mother-in-law chased us down the drive waving the cheese and shouting 'Can you take this home - I don't want it in my fridge'! My mother was exactly the same when I brought some fabulous goat's cheese home from my first ever visit to France. It was so delicious, and of course I had never even see it before - my mother went nuts - 'it's making the entire fridge stink!  What's wrong with Cheddar?'  I was so disappointed!

We did a bit of camping when the children were younger. I really enjoyed it but I think my son and I were in the minority. My husband tends to want more luxury than that, and also tended to treat it a bit like an army exercise. I loved being so free and not having to worry about what I looked like. I'd do it again now but I don't think it will happen unless I go with my son and his wife, and these days they are so outdoorsy that I'm not quite sure I could cope!

So far today I have finished Miss Blaine's Prefect and the Vampire Menace, and have baked some scones (ginger, walnut and mixed seeds). I really must try to achieve more than I did yesterday - when we finally end this lockdown and I have to go back to normal life I won't know what has hit me!

Have a good day everyone.

Count me in on the camping!  After 60 years as a Girl Scout and a GS Leader and almost as much family camping counting my growing up years and taking my own family camping, it's in my blood!

I wish you all a great day!

I was a Girl Scout Co-Leader for several years, and loved when the campout weekends came around.  We camped in several of the local Girl Scout campgrounds, with and without cabins/tent cabins.  Loved the campfire cooking, think I still have the GS campfire cookbook somewhere.  Even enjoyed when the rains came unexpectedly and we all had our black garbage bag raincoats on!  In later years, hubby and I first had a cab-over camper, and we took some trips to various State campgrounds, and couple of out of state lake areas.  Later we had a popup tent camper, which had a lot of good amenities, no A/C of course! Camping in the State of Texas in the summer can really be a dilly as far as heat is concerned. Later when the kids were grown, we gave in and bought a lake house. We'd spend practically every weekend there, raking leaves, picking up deadwood. It was my hide-away.  I'd take extra days off work, go down there, do the raking and burning, listen to tapes, do jigsaw puzzles, walk the various roads, swim in the community pool. So loved it. We kept it for 10 years, and seems like it got to be more work than fun, so sold it.  There have been times when I would wish we still had it, just to get away from the hustle-bustle and traffic of the big City.

I hope you are not all going camping without me?
The yearly 10 days camping trips gave me my best holidays memories when the kids were young. We did that for about 15 years, on the shore of the Galilee lake. We lived in bathing suit, changing for a dry one once we were tired of being in the water. The only big job was putting the tent up and more so folding it and  loading everything on the car for the trip back home.

My scanner died last week  :( so  I can't show you photos.

I'm back with you today...mostly.  Yesterday was a lost day but doing better today....so far.

Hot here, too.  Had the bedroom ceiling fan running all night and the AC was going, too.  Supposed to be near 90 which is, thankfully, a little cooler than yesterday, but humid.  It is, after all, summer.  :'(

Sorry but I was not a camper and, thankfully, neither was my husband.  We liked our creature comforts.  Fresh daily dry sheets and towels, air conditioned rooms, restaurant prepared meals, no clean-up.  I always felt that I had housekeeping duties all year round and didn't want to do them, under more primitive conditions, while on vacation.  He felt that way, too.  He wasn't interested in setting up a tent or starting a fire or waiting for a meal to cook with tired, hungry, cranky kids.  We did a lot of hiking and country exploring and picnicking but NO camping.

David kept us fed yesterday so I guess I'd better try to take over again today.  I'm not hungry so it is hard to think of food but he needs to eat.  The freezer is full so I'm sure I can come up with something.

Please be careful, All.

Good morning everyone. This will be short. Of all mornings to sleep till almost 8. A good 9 hours of sleep. My DIL will be here at 10 to cut my hair. Have  to get a quick shower and wash my hair. This DIL -oldest son's wife- I have always called my second daughter. My daughter always got along better than some sisters do.

Have to get moving and get ready for my "second daughter"

Have a good day and stay safe.

Bubble, my mind went into orbit with your mention of "camping on the shore of the Galilee lake". I love history and kept that mental vision of seeing history during the years we lived in England. To touch or walk in the past like you do would keep me in awe 24/7. I would hate to waste time sleeping. I used to walk through the cemetery to read dates on the tomb stones, many dated before the US was settled. Remember, when we camp in our next life, none of us will have the aches & pains left over from this one, so "I'll race you to the water"!

Gloria, my sleep rarely goes more than 4 hours so must nap to make up. If I get a total of 6 I am doing good. I have to trim my hair again tomorrow, this is the growing season & even though the hair is a lot thinner & finer, it still feels HOT if just half an inch too long (besides looking like I stuck my finger in an electrical outlet).

Phyllis, sorry you had another off day, does it have to do with heat & humidity?  You sound like my sister & daughter, neither would or will consider camping as a fun thing to do. Naturally, I think they are crazy and the feeling is mutual. You don't know what you are missing.  ;D

Amy, I have yet to taste a strawberry/rhubarb pie. Dad & Mom loved rhubarb any which way but not me. I know it was all in my head but the texture made my stomach do a flip and Mother never MADE us eat anything we didn't like. She grew up without a mother so was super kind and patient with her 5 spoiled kids. I'm one that picked the lumps of cherries out of a cherry pie. Cas never realized that when I dished up our pieces of cherry pie I would spoon out the cherries & put in his piece, he loved them. I showed my daughter the trugs & do think she will find someone in her area that will build one for her. Her son that lives in Wichita married a girl that grew up on a farm & has put in a garden to teach their kids about growing things. Very nicely done. Cute couple that even after 3 kids, do a "date night" now & then.

I do need to get busy. SO many things to do but my list is always in the wrong room & I get side tracked when I go to fetch it. Have trouble concentrating when all I want to do is stretch out & go back to sleep. That sounds good.

Good afternoon everyone,

I went for a much earlier walk today as our forecast was so dire - and predictably none of it has materialised so far. At least the walk is done, and it was lovely to have the roads and paths almost to myself - all those recently Born Again cyclists who act so keen when the sun is shining clearly did not fancy getting wet!

I have started reading a book my son gave me - The Last Hillwalker by John D Burns, which is much better and easier to read than I had feared. He is very entertaining about his childhood on suburban Merseyside and his student days in Sheffield, the start of his interest in hillwalking, his first trips to the Lake District with his equally unprepared and ill-equipped friends, and their later forays into the Highlands, where the mountains make the Lake District fells look more like afternoon strolls. He now lives in Inverness (near Aviemore, where my son works) and is a seasoned full-on climber, but so far the book is focusing on his earlier experiences on the hills. He is very funny about staying in youth hostels in the 1970s, when they were very basic and had strict rules and terrifying wardens. Now, of course, some of them are almost like hotels; the one in Edinburgh is very central and used mostly by large groups. You have to book months in advance, and it has some private rooms, a restaurant and many other facilities.

Last night we watched another Michael Portillo programme about empire. This one focused on Jamaica, the pirates, the slave trade and the sugar plantations. It was very interesting. I think the next one will be about South Africa, which will be of particular interest to my mother as her oldest sister emigrated to Queenstown after the war, and lived there until she died a few years ago now. My mother visited her twice after she had retired, and had a great time - it was a long way to go for someone who had not been out of the SE of England until she was in her 50s. The only'holidays' her parents could manage were spent hop-picking in Kent, when London families moved down for the whole summer, staying in basic farm outbuildings but at least getting away from all the smog and pollution in the city.

We are off to do our supermarket shop in an hour or so - not my favourite time of the week, but we need too many things for the local stores.

Have a good day everyone,

Rosemary

Good Morning,

Hot and humid in central Oklahoma.  Have run small sprinklers on flower beds and glad that only required stepping onto the patio and turning on/off the faucet.

Phyllis, husband and I felt exactly the same way about camping.  During the years we lived in the Colorado mountains (next town north of where Shirley goes) we could spend all day long roaming the hills and then go home to our own beds and baths.
When we moved here we bought a home with a huge back yard and pool so could enjoy time outdoors (particularly the long summer evenings) without joining the many who spend almost every weekend loading/driving/unloading/"repeat for trip home" to one of Oklahoma's many lakes.

Oh, yes, Shirley, we knew what we were missing and felt fortunate to be able to experience everything except the loading/unloading, driving long distances, cramped space (our height difference was the same as yours)....and mosquitoes!

Miss Ellen took me to a doctor's appointment yesterday.  We brought lunch home from a local restaurant and then talked constantly for almost four hours! We covered lots of subjects from family matters to her travel and work experiences to how the pandemic has affected her theater friends.  'Twas interesting to get the viewpoints on the current situation from a 27-year-old who has lived independently in New York City for the past four years.

Nothing particularly on my agenda for today.  Did notice that two e-books have been added to my Loan list. Hmmm - which reading spot shall I pick?  ;)

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Wishing all sweet dreams and a happy tomorrow. Pushing 100° and feels hotter so not loving the weather. Got in the RV for a few minutes this evening to clean & did a fast melt down. The outlet for power in the garage isn't the kind I can use to turn on AC in the motorhome, blew the fuse/breaker when I tried some years ago so son had to explain things to me.  ::)  I could have opened windows & turned on the ceiling fans, but pulling HOT air in doesn't help a great deal. Might have to get up early when it's only 75° out, to clean up the unit. Need to put the slide out and give it a good going over.

Callie, I even like having a place to just curl up & sleep anywhere I travel, have stayed in some of the best resorts and hotels in the US but "given a choice", will pick any kind of camping or sleeping in my own bed. BUT, the job was in Kansas and this wan't the place I ever enjoyed vacationing. We tried a few times, to visit lakes in KS, but my complaint was "the wind blows the heat from under a campfire grill". I'm sure many Kansans will think bad thoughts about me saying that, but have not found woods & water like MO or CO. Our kids grew up here so this will always be "home" to them, great jobs but they go other places to vacation!

Jane, how is your garden growing? I wish I could have at least a couple tomato plants but guess this year will not be good in KS. My poor rose bush looked outstanding a few days ago but all of the blooms turned brown & wilted today. Don't think in the 30 years since I planted it that this has ever happened. I watered it yesterday & today but looks like August already. I think we may have had 2 days of spring, no winter to speak of (no ice on the river and NO snow), summer is blazing & I'm wishing for an early fall before I get the pool uncovered! Something wrong about the weather. We will keep on, right?

How did the haircut turn out, Gloria?   Good night, all........

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The morning temp is still down somewhat but is heading for the mid-80s later today.  My Maryland daughter is coming today and my two grandnieces will be in town for the weekend.  Bethany rides for the Susquehanna University Equestrian team and they have a show here today.  It's the first since the kids were sent home in March.  I'm hoping to be able to go see it.

Gonna be a busy day around these parts because our county just went "green" and Cathy is celebrating with her first family cookout in her back yard this evening.

I hope you all have a great day. Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone.

A lovely day here, temp is 56° at the moment but I am sure it is going to be a fry day on a Saturday. :)

The baking didn't get done yesterday but the cleaning did. Today will bake pies and cookies....not sure if bread will get done but we shall see.
Have friends coming this afternoon to pick up another trug. My friend liked hers so much she is getting one for her granddaughter.

Jane, there is going to be a lot of celebration your way!! :cheer:  :cheer:  :cheer:

Lloyd, hope you can catch a few zzs later today.

Shirley, 100.WOW way too hot for me.. hope you also have a/c

Callie, don't you just love listening to the younger generation and getting their perspective on life. They seem so wise beyond their years with the understanding of today.

Better move it...this sleeping in has become a habit....nice one too!!

Enjoy your day everyone..

Stay safe.

Any way you look at it, 75° or 76° feels HOT for the low & pushing 100° for the high again today. BUT, at least we didn't have a tornado buzz through like my little home towns of Sedalia & Jefferson City, MO had yesterday.

Lloyd, hope the rash of tornadoes didn't touch down at your place. For sure this would be a day to stay inside and watch old western movies.... but must do some outside chores that I've been putting off. Better eat breakfast and get busy before the temps go up too much higher!

Jane, I like the sound of your day, nothing better than a cook out with family...

On the other hand, your baking sounds like a winner, Amy. Got to ask, would the trug be deep enough to grow a couple tomato plants?

My oldest son LOVES to work with wood & put in AC for his workshop last year to make it comfy for the summer. He objects to my paying him to do things, but did admit the AC was paid for by deeds he did at my house. I insist I won't ask him if he doesn't let me pay.

He helps everyone for free & I am trying to get a point across to him that it is not a disgrace to accept pay and that's the money for extras he wouldn't spend for unless. His wife tends to keep the thermostat pretty cool inside the house but he is out in his workshop a lot of hours or even outside in the sun helping someone (like me).

Wishing EVERY FRIEND a peaceful and happy day. Breakfast is calling.

I won't belabor the point but just simply say.. Another hot day today.  It is going to be a very long summer, I fear.

Rosemary, the cyclists around here lose their zeal pretty quickly in the rain, too.  ;D  BTW, I was wondering how your father-in-law is doing after his scare thinking he had the C-virus?  I hope he is much improved.

Callie....Ahhhh!  A kindred soul!  Now I don't feel so alone.

Shirley, I agree....I never considered Kansas the vacation headquarters of the world either.   ;D

Stay well and stay safe, Everyone.

Good afternoon everyone.

It is quite sunny here today but nothing like the weather you are having, thank goodness.  I have just been in the garden, planting out some marigolds that I managed to grow from seed (I know, they are really easy, but I was still pleased!) I have also planted out some morning glory, also grown from seed, and have started off some more of those and also some sunflowers.

My husband is now putting in new fence posts so it is all bang, bang, bang and I have come indoors. I just hope he doesn't tread on any of my plants. I will go for a walk soon and while I'm out I will call my elder daughter.

Phyllis, thank you so much for asking. My father-in-law was tested twice in the end, and both tests came back negative. The doctor now thinks it was yet another chest infection - of course that is not great either, and FIL is still very frail, but at least antibiotics can help with a chest infection, and more importantly the care home remains coronavirus-free, which is so important for them. My sister-in-law still cannot visit him, but the staff are very good. Unfortunately he had another fall in his shower room a few days ago, but it seems there was no serious damage done.

Last night we went to Aldi and I was amazed to see they had baking flour in stock after all this time. I have plenty but many people have been unable to get any.

Shirley I would love to have a camper van - my husband just will not even consider it, he hates them and caravans. I have no idea why, they look such fun and so nice to be able to take everything with you and not have to worry about anything.

Lloyd - I also slept very badly. So annoying - I had been for a very long walk earlier in the day and I had hoped that would sort it out, but I was still awake by 4am. Let's hope for a better night tonight. I have not seen a Western since I was a child - one of my grandmothers was a great fan of them, and of programmes like Bonanza, The Big Valley and The Virginian. I'm not sure that our TV even shows them any more.

Amy, working in wood must be so satisfying. My younger daughter attended a Steiner school, where a lot of emphasis is placed on arts and crafts. She did do woodwork, but the most she ever made was a 'darning egg'. They also did stained glass - we do have a lovely stained glass picture of a fox that she made - knitting, metalwork, sewing and pottery. Her main interest, however, has always been fine art, and the art teacher was fantastic. The studio was right at the top of a very precarious old staircase - goodness knows how it passed any inspections - and the older students all loved it up there. Every pupil who took Advanced Higher Art always got an A grade, it was one of the school's great strengths.

Today's baking was lemon and ginger scones, and we have already eaten half of them....  I need to make a cake as well, but that will have to wait. I have a lot of oranges, so maybe a marmalade loaf or and orange wholemeal cake. I use Nigel Slater's recipe for the loaf and Mary Berry's for the cake.

Have a good day all,

Rosemary

Good Morning Everyone
from the getting hotter and humid
rocky coast of Maine.

I was going to take a chance this
morning and go for a
walk down town to the CVS
and Rene's store since
they now are both opening
up for business.

Unfortunately, it is
getting hot and way to humid
for  me to chance it today.

Which is probably just as
well as my family really does
not want me venturing out
per chance I should run
into some Covid_19 germs...

It is really them that I
have to worry about because
should I get exposed,  I
could expose my whole
family including Fe..

Which I certainly do not
want to do.   So I only go
out when  I absolutely have to
(usually for doctors and blood
work) ...

The thoughts of this going on
for a long long time really bugs
me ....  but as they say:
"que Sera Sera"..

Shirley,  it might be worth
the cost and effort to have a
special plug put in so you
can use it while cleaning out
your RV.

Might as well make things
as easy as possible for you
to manage it.....especially in
the hot hot Summer or cold cold
Winter months.

Always something,  isn't there?

Shirley, noticed your comment about "something wrong about the weather". Besides the lack of any real winter, shortened Spring, and being vaulted into Summer, some things have seemed curious to me.  Seems like the positioning of the sun is kind of weird.  Rises in the East, moves across to set in the West. We all know that.  Seems to me it moves so quickly into its "noon time" position, and my backyard just stays in full sun all the rest of the afternoon, and till very late in the evening, when it finally sets.  You being in KS may not experience this, but here in TX it really seems weird.  I mean, you could almost set your clock to the positioning of the sun, but not anymore (it seems).  I'd be interested in hearing any other comments you or others might have. Suppose the heavens are having a lot to do with so many of us "not sleeping well"? :-[

Tome, Central Oklahoma gets weather fronts coming at us from all directions - sometimes several at a time!  I know that affects my sleeping/waking habits.  Hurricane Whatsitsname is supposed to "clip" the eastern edge of Oklahoma but I don't think it's supposed to get this far west.

interesting that you would comment on the sun.  My patio is on the north side of my house and has walls on three sides. The door faces east.  From late spring through the summer, the sun rises north of the east wall and shines directly into the patio door until shortly after noon, when it's past the peak of the duplex roof.
As Fall approaches, it begins to "move" further south until - during late Fall and the winter, it's blocked by the roof and the patio gets no direct sun at all.
Of course, I know the earth moves - not the sun - but it's been interesting to notice the difference.
Been this way for 21 years.

Amy, I sometimes have those kinds of conversations with all three Grands.  Recently had one with 22 year old grandson about which side of the political "attitude" scale we were each on.  (We decided we're both "moderate conservatives").
I wouldn't have had a clue about that or any kind of social issues when I was in my 20's - but, of course, we didn't have access to all the news sources that have always been available to them.

There's a saying about the TX panhandle that could apply to Kansas.  "There's nothing between here and the north pole but a barbed wire fence...and it runs north and south".  Translation:  it's flat and basically treeless!  Oklahoma west of I-35 is about the same.

My husband was on a year's sabbatical to do graduate work at Central MO State in Warrensburg MO (not far from Lloyd) while we lived in Colorado.  A family from Pennsylvania was there for the same reason and lived in the same apartment complex.  She asked if we were going home for Fall Break and, when I said it would take a day and a half to get to Leadville, she exclaimed, "But you only have to go across Kansas!"
We looked at a map. There wasn't that much difference in the distance we had traveled but they had come across 7 states from their home in PA - and we had "only" gone across one...and about half of another one.  ;D

I've spent most of the afternoon messing around on the computer.  Time to Get Up And Move!!!!

Hope Everyone is staying cool.

I was going to comment about the position of the sun & driving across Kansas.... but y'all know how windy I can get and afraid not enough time to tell the whole story so will see if I can remember later.  Well, maybe the cats can wait for their supper, they don't seem to be in a hurry to go out into that heat.

When we lived in Leawood, KS (heart of KC), we had a sunroom on the east side of the house with floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides. One part of the year the sun came in more to the north & later it was straight in from opposite direction. First time I ever noticed that difference (just thought it came up in East & down in West). Thanks goodness we had enough trees around to provide shade because the sun takes me out. My father went through 2 or 3 weeks in Barnes hospital in St.Louis one time because he passed out in the sun. Diagnosis was, "stay out of the sun, you are just allergic to it". I had my first heat/sun stroke at 18 & knew what to watch for ever after. I go from under tree to under tree when out in the summer. Some times you can't bully your body & have to give in.

I've learned to enjoy driving across Kansas, spend the whole time picturing wagon trains rolling along, probably the same path. I probably would have liked that, too... my own bed <grin>, but do not think I could have managed the sun. Makes me sad to think about being limited that way, but don't guess I'll make that trek during this lifetime! I will think about it, though, as I head west soon or head east later, depending on weather. When just me, I can change schedule & stay home rather than be trapped inside an RV with AC running. NOt what I go for.

Been debating whether to tell my side of this protest but I'm on a roll & cats fell asleep. One of my gr-daughters thinks of herself as "a person of color" because her father was born in Mexico. I was stunned & had a long conversation with my daughter about this. She has always been the drama queen about every issue, but she did inherit her father's curly hair and olive colored skin. BUT, I have a lighter olive skin & my oldest son has that black curly hair just like his brother in law. Actually, I am color blind, never a prejudice bone in my body, so feel hurt that my gr-daughter feels she is more her father's daughter than MY daughter's daughter. I know that is childish of me, but that's the way I feel.

Back when I was in 3rd grade the teacher was going on about America being the melting pot, asked each of us where our ancestors came from. I knew my father's mother was mostly French and Mother's one grandmother was also French, so that was my answer. The teacher said a lot of French "mingled" with Native Americans (we could call them Indians back then)... so I probably had some Indian blood in me because of my black hair & eyes. All these years I figured that was why I love animals & the woods. 23 & ME says I am 100% Northern, European. Took care of that myth.

My brother has done the genealogy & found we do have a lot of French but also one gr-father pure English, another half German, etc. So my conclusion was it didn't matter where the ancestors came from, we were 100% American. Satisfied me. I don't think anyone has the right or privilege to claim being a "minority" when we all have the right to learn & become anything we want. Sure, some kids have a harder time getting through college but manage if they have the drive. Our kids worked their way through, all earned scholarships, they worked hard and had jobs, but they insist it made them who they are today, 2 retired & all 3 sitting pretty.

My daughter was recruiting for the Engineering Dept as her "work-study" job, a little town in KS, when one of the girls in the group whined that "her parents couldn't afford to send her to college". She laughed when telling me her retort, "MY parents could have but didn't, I am working my way through".

I know I am opinionated, know I did not have the drive my kids do/did, but I'm not convinced these protests are justified. That cop & any police or other person that likes the power of making anyone struggle, should be charged and dealt with for their actions, has nothing to do with skin color. On that thought, have you ever heard of protesters or riots because a white male or female was murdered or raped by a black man?

I don't think this belongs in the "soapbox" because I really am interested in my friends opinions about my gr-daughter thinking of herself as a "person of color". I think it's time for everyone (especially my gr-daughter) to quit wanting to be special because they inherited genes that determine a darker skin, or blue eyes. If anything, my kids had to work harder because they were ordinary. And now I will feed cats.........

Good Evening from the cooler
but still humid,  rocky coast
of Maine.

We have had huge demonstrations
here in Portland Maine... many which
I have observed out my windows to the
world...

I have observed thousands of people
walking on the  main street which is down
one floor from me... I am so lucky to
live where I live and have  a corner
apartment  so I can see way down the
street while the protesters walk on
by below me.

The majority of people who are out
protesting are white because it so
happens that Maine has a very small
multi racial population...  and most
the people are wearing masks and
many have their kids and dogs with
them...  very few problems in the
past few days.... but everyday in this
area the demonstrations are going on...

Because of Covid_19 many many people
are not working and so many  people
have been isolating inside for weeks,
so getting out to protest is very
much a relief from the boredom  of
being home bound.

I know my grand kids are out there
now participating...  I am so proud of
them.

I have learned the hard way,  that
for me,  regarding politics and
religion,  it is better for me "to
remain quiet and appear stupid,
then to open my mouth and remove
all doubt"

So I wish everyone a good night
and hopefully we all will remain
free of Covid_19 ...

Love to all
Sandy

Late Saturday night and I am just getting in to see how you all are doing 😩

We had horrible hurricane speed winds here this afternoon.  Sadly many trees did not survive, including our neighbors.  Her front yard tree is leaning quite a bit toward the street, and it is worrisome as who knows when it will fall.  We are thankful it did not fall toward her house as it would have done damage.  This is the same neighbor that lost a big pine tree between her house and ours a couple of months ago😩

This is the 10th day and night of protesting......I personally feel the point has been taken and it might be healthier for put this behind us and move on with different attitudes.  Sadly we are fearful of a spike in Covid cases with all the non social distancing😢 The old thought of "too much of anything is not good"!

I wish you all a good night of rest.

Jenny

Good morning everyone..

A day of rest here.. :)

I am typing listening to Roly's  music. Thank you for the smile Roly. Kyle used to play that song on his guitar.
With all that has gone on here the past week we forgot to pick up Kyles med!!! Frist thing Mon we will be at the drug store to get them. He has enough till then.

Did you see the beautiful Strawberry moon last night??

I did get my pie baked and 8 dog chocolate chip cookies didn't get the bed linen washed though. We had two down pours and gosh did it come down hard.

Really enjoyed meeting my friends granddaughter  and watching her reaction seeing her trug. She loves to garden and this will make it easier for her. Where she lives they wouldn't allow her to put a garden in but  this isn't disturbing the ground and will look neat out behind the garage.

Shirley, I have often said......let everyone...no matter the colour, prick their finger put a drop of blood on a piece of paper, mix them altogether and now pick yours out of the pile.

Jenny, your Jonah is growing up before our eyes!! I also think this has gone on far too long. Time to move on.

Sandy ,Fe is also growing up before our eyes..How are you making out with your masks?

Joy, hope all is well your way.

Better get moving..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good afternoon everyone,

I was so tired last night and had a backache, so I took some Cocodamol and went to bed early - and slept right through to almost 6am, which is a record for me. Hoorah!

It was so wet and windy yesterday evening that I moved the morning glory plants that I had just potted up away from the fence (which I want them to grow over) and left them beside the house wall. This morning they look fine so I have re-positioned them - honestly, it is like having babies sometimes.

There have been very big protests in parts of the UK, and one is planned for Edinburgh today. My younger daughter is extremely engaged with all that has been happening in the US - young people today are indeed so much more informed than I was at their age. She asked me if I thought she and her friend should attend, but I was hesitant as I was concerned that if social distancing broke down they would end up with their photos all over the internet, and people vilifying them for spreading the virus. Our media are all too keen to make young people the villains of the peace just now, which I find grossly unfair as I see far more middle-aged people breaking the rules. Anyway, we discussed it and they decided not to go, but to make some posters and pin them up along the proposed route, which they did yesterday. They wore masks and gloves and had no problems. I feel that was a fair compromise. There is a huge groundswell of opinion here, I have never seen anything like it - we have had deaths in police custody before, but there has never been the strength of reaction that there is this week.  I wonder what will happen.

Unfortunately there is a lot of very racist behaviour towards the Muslim community as well in parts of the UK. Any unsolved crime is immediately blamed on them - when a small child was abducted, assaulted and murdered on one of the islands a couple of years ago, there was the most horrible reaction - a group of Syrian refugees had been resettled on the island (goodness knows why, these communities are very close knit and old fashioned) and they were immediately blamed, some people said some appalling things on social media. The perpetrator was eventually caught - it was a local white teenager. So yes, I would say that it goes both ways here. I think our police force has improved its attitude a lot in recent years though, especially the Met in London. If you have ever seen the TV series 'Our Friends in the North' which, despite its title, also covers life in Soho in the 1970s, you will know how corrupt, sexist and racist the police were then - but that is largely in the past now. (And I do recommend that series, it is available on DVD here, it stars a young Daniel Craig, Christopher Ecclestone and Gina McKee, and they were all brilliant - it tells you a lot about British political and social life over several decades, and is also just a really good story.)

Today all I have done so far really is update my Goodreads profile and had my coffee - also the laundry is now at least half done.  It is already almost 1pm here, I had better, as they say, get my finger out.

Lloyd - do you know the name of that Scottish castle? How fascinating!

Have a good day all,

Rosemary

Rosemary, I am sorry I forgot to say that the wood we are dealing with at the moment is wood for next winters heat. We do  have oil but prefer the wood heat.We have a wood cookstove which heats our house...
Give my husband a piece of wood and he will built you what you ask for. He is a carpenter and loves to work with wood. We had our own carpentry business for 15 years after he had retired from his work .

Good Morning.

Amy, I am hanging in there. Really so lazy and just don't have any ambition at all.  I had to get up early, as I have a grocery order coming between 11 and 12.  So, I need to get my shower and get dressed, but stopped here while I finish my coffee.  I had to set the alarm so I wouldn't sleep the day away.  And, I must admit, I do feel better.  Yesterday, I just couldn't wake up.

I do have a lot of things I could be doing, but just don't feel like it.  And, people I have talked to, all seem to feel the same way.  I just want all this craziness to stop.  I really dread to think about it, but I am afraid we will be dealing with all this for a long time.  Just goes from one thing to another.  This world is just falling apart.

It is a beautiful sunny morning. Humidity has gone way down, and temperatures will be in the low 80's. I could take that for the rest of the year.  Hopefully, I will get to sit outside later in the day.

Right now  I will just wish everyone a wonderful day.  Be safe.

Joy

Amy - we had wood stoves in the first house we bought, out in the wilds. They were fabulously efficient when lit, and during one of the numerous winter power cuts I recall heating water and even formula on top of one of them - BUT I was absolutely hopeless at getting them lit myself, and I used to get so mad when only my husband could make them work. I suppose there is a knack to it, and I certainly did not have it!

I'll only make one comment, or two.  I feel that it is impossible to understand what someone else of whatever color is feeling, or experiencing, unless we "walk a mile in their shoes".  Other than that, I never discuss politics or religion.  I respect other people's opinion, even if I don't agree with it, and ask that they respect mine.  And, finally, violence from any "side" should never be acceptable.

Cloudy, very warm and humid here.  I think that will be the theme of the days for many weeks to come.

I have always found it interesting to track the movement and change of the sun patterns through the trees in my little patch of woods.  Each season is so different.  And each day is different.  On days when the humidity is low the shadows are darker and the edges are sharper down in the woods.  On high humidity days they are much softer.  I suppose it has to do with the light refraction of water droplets in the atmosphere.  Also, I have noticed the change in the animal's/bird's behavior when a storm is coming.  Have you ever noticed when the wind comes up how much more carefully the birds will watch the sky?  Perhaps looking for possible predators?

Enough of that!  Take care, Everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a beautiful day in Central PA today.  I'm going to attend my very first horse show competition this afternoon.  My grandniece, Bethany's college equestrian team is competing.

I wish you all a pleasant day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everone, slept late this morning. It was hot and humid yesterday but in late after noon we had a brief bur st of rain and wind, coooled off fast after  that. When I got on here this morning I got to the SS and I saw Preview at the top of the page and there was my post for yesterday. Well that was old news today so deleted it. I really am slipping because I never use preview. Blame it on age or poor eyesight? Or just plain losing it(brain)?

SHIRLEY  where did your granddaughter she was a person of color? If that was the case I should have redskin from my Native American ancestors on both parents sides. Mothers here in RI and Fathers in Canada.

JANE  I remember that question in school and I told the teacher the street and number in Waterbury, Conn. I am so temptedd filling out forms when they ask color or whatever I am tempted to put down AMERICAN and see what reaction that would bring.

PETER/ROLEY  love that song. Sounds like me. Have not been anywhere since New Year's day and would love a change of scenery.

AMY  we had one brief rain yesterday. It had been sunny hot and humid. I looked up at the window and was surprised at how dark it was. I looked out and it was pouring and the wind was tossing trees around like they were going to come down. Did not last long but cooled the air.

JOY  I feel like you. No energy for anything. I feel I want  to get aay from here for a few hours jus t t o see some thing different. When it is hot I cannot sit outside, I stay in with my AC.  I cannot take the sun-get dizzy if I sit in it for more than 5 minutes.

ROSEMARY  I grew up in a home with a cast iron kitchen stove. On cold winter days I wish I had one to stand near when I come in from outside.

PHYLLIS  like you I will not talk poli tics or religion with anyone. We all have our beliefs and ideas so why argue about it. When I had my bird feeders I st ar ted to no tice that  some days the different species would all be there together, would have to keep refilling the feeders. Dduring the night or the next morning it would be snowing. They knew we had a storm coming.

JANE  enjoy the horsn show today. I watch one years ago at a fair in northern Mmaine with my niece and her husband. Thos horses were so well trained. A pleasure to watch.

Have a good day and stay safe.

A good night sleep & all of your nice comments about my shock of having a gr-daughter who thinks of herself as a "person of color".... when I never thought about color. I was aware that some people do, a long ago friend made a comment about her daughter dating a boy from Mexico, it wasn't the color of his skin she was concerned about but the possibility "he might be Catholic". That also shocked me, but with grandfathers that completely rejected their son-in-law or daughter-in-law, I knew some people were prejudice.

Anyway, I will bite my tongue and not bring up the subject again, but as I told my daughter.... I have as much right to MY opinion as does everyone else! Mine is that we can't forever blame problems of what our grandfathers did, but each of us make our little spot a happy zone. Just like me feeding these fish, MY little corner is a safe zone to come & eat and I wish people with the same opportunity would clean out their own area if they want to fish. Up stream is a public park that fishermen are welcomed. And that's all I'm gonna say on the subject!  Thanks for your input, it helped clear my head.

Looks like we may get a little cool down mid week. From here on out that will be my light at the end of a tunnel until fall shows up. I really thought the heat would not bother me as much when I got older, but it does.

Sandy, to have an electrician (has to be certified by the city) come out & put in the higher power plug would cost a fortune. My son went down & passed their test with flying colors but only allowed to do wiring in his own house/property. This would actually mean putting in a whole new breaker box. We had to hire an electrician for about a week when the underground wire from the pole wore out, couldn't put over head because of the pool so had to have the meter moved to the other end of the house, also breaker box in the basement changed as restrictions changed, so the city inspector came along & insisted we put in a whole new unit, new ground wire, etc.... in the basement, house was built in 1966. We discovered there was no more room for the extra 220 needed in the garage. SO, I do without AC when the RV is parked in my driveway. Pretty sure it (RV) will go by next year. Life changes all the time & we make choices we don't like sometimes. But thanks for the thought, don't think enough years to care much longer.

I picked up McDonald's & met son & wife & their 2 grands at the park for breakfast. Have to laugh because it isn't a lot of fun trying to eat & having to make sure everything is weighted down to not fly off the table. Think it is a good time to stretch out for a nap, too hot & windy to do anything outside & all 3 cats are in their place of choice for the day. Callie slipped into the garage when I came home, she'd rather be out there than in the house during the day. Some days she likes to stay outside but think the heat is getting to her.

I watered again this morning, do need to get those sprinklers running since they use our well water. Our city water is based on "normal use in Feb".... and a higher rate for any extra usage. Can break the bank to open the pool, water flowers/trees & wash vehicles in the same month!

phyllis I am with you. seams to me command since has got up and went. we need to respect everyone and their rights even if it is different from ours. one of my best friends is black, and I gave him his first job in a blacksmith and welding shop i worked at, when the boss left me in charge of while they were on vacation.he was a natural, with one lesson on how to strike a arc and weld. the boss was very preduiss. when he got back and seen him in another part of the shop, he asked me what is he doing there. I said welding and doing a good job. he let it go then, but in a few days he called him in the office, i was working at a bench close to shop office  door, just a opening no door on it. we kept out time on the back of counter checks used in those days, hanging on a nail on the side of it. I went in and asked what is going on. speincer (his name) he said he is firing me. boss said no laying him off,we do not need him. I said we do there is work laying on the floor that was there before you went on vacation undone. he said my choice. I said ok and backed up and got my time slip off and threw it down on his desk and said just fill mayen out too I will just go with him the other balck smith seen what we were doing and came in and got his time slip and said fill myen out too we will go with him. boss said all you go back to work I cant do it all. spince worked at least 2 1/2 years there after I quit and started my Owen shop. we are still good friends today.

Good morning everyone. A good night for sleeping, no fan or AC, 51 now and I like it. If the high never gets above 75 that makes me happy, too.
I don't know about anyone else but I am tired of hearing "black lives matter." ALL lives matter IMHO.

SHIRLEY  remember the TV series All in the Family? Archie Bunker and Edith? He sure was a bigit. Reminded me of one brother who was very prejudice.  They even looked alike even to the blue eyes. Years back when those who did a lot of traveling had CB's in their cars he handle was Archie. I thought of my brother the first time I saw that program but was afraid to say anything to him but when I found out that was his name on the CB I laughed and started calling him Archie. The same round face and thinning hair. The blue eyes cinched it.

LLOYD  I do not care what color a person is or where they come from, there are good and bad in all of them. Used to be we told our children they can trust a cop if we are in trouble and these days we are afraid to get near a cop. There are days I do not feel up to posting but try getting here every morning.

SHIRLEY  LIKE YOUR NEW AVATAR.

JANE  I slept great last night and still did not want to get up this morning. Went to bed early, 9:30 after watching Columbo and of course woke too early.

AMY  CALLIE JOY  PHYLLIS  ROSEMARY and anyone else I missed I wish you a wonderful Monday.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Jane, did you enjoy the horse show?

Gloria, I think a lot of people are wishing the news would find something else to report.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Like you, GLOIA, I slept pretty well last night but I'm still really tired today.  I think I'll just take today off and only do what's necessary to get through the day  And the necessary stuff includes searching the couch for some unused zzzzzs!

Thanks for letting us know.  I don't remember her being on here for a long time now.

it has been a very pretty day here today.  After I had my hair done, I did sit outside for a little while,  After I had lunch, I started reading and fell asleep.  Slept for a couple hours.  I was up around 6 a.m. so I guess I had to catch up with a nap.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Good morning everyone, another good night for sleeping and that I did. Humidity is low and to me that is perfect. Yesterday oldest son came early  with a bag and a big pan, wondered what he had thought up now.  Well he brought 2 lobsters over and the pan to cook them in. I am always talking about Yvette and how she is spoiling me, well this was a thank you from him for being so good to and for me. When she got here he was gone and I told her she had some cooking to do. OK so what did I want. She had never cooked a lobster so I had to tell her how. She had only had them in a restaurant. Ok get the pan half filled and the water boiling. She wanted to start them in cold water. Had to show her how to open them and get the yummy out of the shell. We both enjoyed the treat. Called son and we both thanked him. Made sure she took all the shells out to the trash and no left over smell in here.So that was how her and I enjoyed our time together yesterday.

AMY  hope you stack that wood in the early morning before it gets hot.

JANE  I have never had so many naps as I have lately.  Makes me feel so lazy. Guess I should call myself  Lazy old woman instead of Gloria.

PHYLLIS  I have hated this computer since day 1. Nothing but trouble since it was set up.

JOY  hope you had some company when you sat out. Never see any of the other people here at all lately.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

We are going to get much needed rain today and tomorrow so they say. Along with the rain we will have high temps...........would you say we would be in hot water? :)

Yesterday started off well..picked up meds ,baked bread then our load of wood came. Then I found EVERYONES zzz...what was to be a 20 min nap turned into 2 hours 15 min! Not much work done but it is still there for today......no gremlins came and piled the wood either.

Gloria, that wood will get done when it is cooler. Lobster...yummy!! Your son is a keeper for being so thoughtfull to both you and Yvette!!

Phyllis, I understand about the puter, mine has been giving me grief on my mail and then my fitbit decided to throw a fit. All these modern gadgets to keep us frustrated at times.

Better get ,need to replace a battery in one of the clocks that read 12:00 when I got up........thought I had slept till noon!

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning, Friends! Been keeping busy or sleeping around here but still thinking about y'all. Got my first flea bite last night, don't know if sand flea from the river or a cat shared, but today I will catch cats & put the stuff on the back of their necks "if it's the last thing I do".

Gloria, I've never eaten lobster, not a shell fish fan because we don't live close enough to water where they are fresh. I can eat shrimp cocktail when delivered to the city special, but never buy from the store. We are deprived in this part of the country and I've "smelled" the off odors in too many grocery stores. Glad you have such a thoughtful son that knows how to make you happy (worth all those teen age years, huh?) About Archie Bunker, my father was one that knew every slang name & his friends all seemed to use them. Strange that he didn't ever do it to hurt feelings, was part of their way of thinking. He had no trouble sitting down to eat with anyone, talked about stopping along the railroad tracks when he had his own rail car (fixed signals) to eat with hobos. We had one cousin whose mother was Italian.... so cousin was a "Wop"... and so on. To him the judging of a person was if "they are a good worker", man or woman.

Amy, I bow to your energy and stacking that wood.

OOPS, here come the cats wanting breakfast. All stayed out last night....be back later........

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm going to take a minute to explain why my posts have been short lately.  My floors are all complete except in my "Catch-all" room.  I don't have an attic or a basement in this house and the room at the end of the hall has been my "attic" since I moved in here.  Now I have to clear out at least half of it so the guys can come back and do the floor in that room.  I've decided to do it right and actually get rid of the things I don't use (some I haven't used since I moved in 23 years ago).  I'm not even half way done and 2 large bags have gone to the dumpster and I have one more small one for the trash this week.  Also, Christy has taken some pictures and old hankies and doilies and some other stuff.  She also helped herself to some canned goods when we moved out the shelf they were stored on.  Courtney took a couple old jackets out of the closet and large painting that her Great Grandfather did.  Christy is taking one of those, too, the next time she comes up.  Courtney got some canned goodies too, just for her help.

When they left on Sunday night, I was beat right down to my socks and I told myself, I wasn't going to even look in that room until at least Wednesday.  But I had and idea for organizing the next step and I was in there at 6:30 getting it started and then Monday I was back working on it.  How on earth does one accumulate so much STUFF?  And WHY does one accumulate so much STUFF?

Last night, I promised myself a day off today and I'm already thinking about the next step.  I've got to learn to keep my promises!

Anyway, that room, plus a weekend of company is the reason I've been neglecting my friends here and I'm sorry for that.  But it will probably happen again so I apologize in advance.  I do read your activities and I feel your joys and your miseries with you.  You are all my special friends and I'm always talking about you to my friends and family.

I wish you a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!

And stay out of HOT WATER!  That's no fun!

Note:  SHIRLEY, read your post that sneaked in while I was typing.  My husband's grandparents emigrated to America from Italy bringing their three oldest children with them.  My MIL was born here but she was always a "Wop" to my FIL.  And she never seemed to mind that name.  In fact, she told someone once that she was an "Ikey-Wop".

About Flag Day

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress took a break from writing the Articles of Confederation and passed a resolution stating that "the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white," and that "the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson marked the anniversary of that decree by officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day. As you celebrate the anniversary of the Stars and Stripes, here are some fast facts about "Old Glory."

• Bernard Cigrand, a small-town Wisconsin teacher, originated the idea for an annual flag day, to be celebrated across the country every June 14, in 1885. That year, he led his school in the first formal observance of the holiday. Cigrand, who later changed careers and practiced dentistry in Illinois, continued to promote his concept and advocate respect for the flag throughout his life.

• It is widely believed that Betsy Ross, who assisted the Revolutionary War effort by repairing uniforms and sewing tents, made and helped design the first American flag. However, there is no historical evidence that she contributed to Old Glory's creation. It was not until her grandson William Canby held an 1870 press conference to recount the story that the American public learned of her possible role.

• The lyrics of "The Star-Spangled Banner," America's national anthem since 1931, are taken from a patriotic poem written by Francis Scott Key after he witnessed the Battle of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. His words were set to the tune of "To Anacreon in Heaven," a popular British drinking song.

• In the 1950s, when it seemed certain that Alaska would be admitted to the Union, designers began retooling the American flag to add a 49th star to the existing 48. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Ohioan named Bob Heft student borrowed his mother's sewing machine, disassembled his family's 48-star flag and stitched on 50 stars in a proportional pattern. He handed in his creation to his history teacher for a class project, explaining that he expected Hawaii would soon achieve statehood as well. Heft also sent the flag to his congressman, Walter Moeller, who presented it to President Eisenhower after both new states joined the Union. Eisenhower selected Heft's design, and on July 4, 1960, the president and the high school student stood together as the 50-star flag was raised for the first time. Heft's teacher promptly changed his grade from a B- to an A.

• During the Vietnam War era, some demonstrators burned American flags as an act of protest. The Flag Protection Act of 1968 was enacted in response, making it illegal to burn or otherwise deface the Stars and Stripes. In two landmark decisions 20 years later, the Supreme Court ruled that the government couldn't curb individuals' First Amendment rights by prohibiting desecration of the U.S. Flag. Respectful burning of damaged flags according to established protocol has always been acceptable.

• Unlike setting an intact flag on fire, flying one upside-down is not always intended as an act of protest. According to the Flag Code, it can also be an official distress signal.

• Despite the preponderance of "patriotic" gear ranging from tee shirts to swimsuits to boxer shorts, the Flag Code stipulates that the Stars and Stripes should not appear on apparel, bedding or decorative items.

• The practice of draping coffins in the American flag is not reserved for military veterans and government officials. On the contrary, any burial may incorporate this tradition.

• Etiquette calls for American flags to be illuminated by sunlight or another light source while on display.

• When flags are taken down from their poles, care must be taken to keep them from touching the ground. In fact, the American flag should always be kept aloft, meaning that rugs and carpets featuring the Stars and Stripes are barred by the Flag Code.

• When the flags of cities, states, localities or groups are flown on the same staff as the American flag, Old Glory should always be at the peak. When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they should be of equivalent size and flown from separate staffs of the same height.

• The Flag Code strictly prohibits adding an insignia, drawing or other markings to the Stars and Stripes. Some American politicians have been known to defy this regulation by signing copies of the U.S. Flag for their supporters.

• Ever wondered how to correctly fold an American flag? First, enlist a partner and stand facing one another, each holding both corners of one of the rectangle's shorter sides. Working together, lift the half of the flag that usually hangs on the bottom over the half that contains the blue field of stars. Next, fold the flag lengthwise a second time so that the stars are visible on the outside. Make a triangular fold at the striped end, bringing one corner up to meet the top edge. Continue to fold the flag in this manner until only a the blue and stars are showing.

Lloyd - that is amazing, Castle Duart is on the Isle of Mull, off the west coast of Scotland, and I actually got married on Mull many years ago!

Here is the website for the Castle as it is now:

I have never visited it but maybe one day soon. It looks like it is a very good visitor attraction now. Mull used to be a pretty basic place, but what with the passing of the years, and especially with the making of the long-running children's programme Ballymory (based on the actual town on Tobermory) it is clearly becoming quite sophisticated!

Today I went for an earlier walk than usual, along the Dee, and ended up so irritated by inconsiderate, selfish cyclists that I almost wish I hadn't bothered. I know I am so lucky to be so near one of the most famous rivers in the country, but even so. Anyway I have got enough paces on my Pacer app. so it wasn't a complete waste of time!

I am still enjoying The Last Hillwalker, the book my son sent me. It is interesting and entertaining in equal measure, not too serious, which is what I needed. After many climbs in Scotland the Lake District, in the chapter I am now on the author and his college friend are now tackling Mont Blanc in the Alps. I have no idea what motivates these people - I'd hate it - but it's good to read about it from a safe distance!

Our lockdown continues much the same as it was, although as we are now permitted to meet up with one other household outside, I have arranged to do a walk at Drum Castle with a friend on Thursday. I asked her about bringing coffee (you are not allowed to share, each have to bring your own) but she said as the toilets are closed, she could not even think about having any drinks till she got home. I think I will maybe stick to a bottle of water myself!

I tried to post a photo of Duart Castle but I think I am doing something wrong - can anyone explain?  I saved it to my own Facebook photos page then inserted the URL from there but nothing happened except that all the words that came after it in my post were underlined?  Help please!  I'll try it again here:

Have a good day everyone,

Oh dear, even posting the link to the website itself seems to have caused trouble - I hope someone else knows how to do these things properly!

https://duartcastle.com/ (https://duartcastle.com/)    See if that works, Rosemary.  If you "mouse over" the links to the right of You Tube above, 3rd image will say, "Insert a link".... comes a pop up where you post that link, it says Okay & will show up in the post. (Something like that... :D  )  Will admit I know very little about how to do anything but happy to share the little I've figured out!

Rosemary, any photo you want to post should be in the Photos Old and New folder. Also should not be over 800 pixels on the longest side. If you are not sure how to resize, feel free to e-mail it to me and I will post it for you and add a link to it here in Soda Shoppe.

Thanks Shirley for showing how to link.
I love your new look! Are those suspenders or backpack?

That's a backpack, Bubble. Few years ago (maybe more) went to a deal downtown of big trailer filled with newest types of computer/photo/printer stuff. Don't remember the type camera they used, printed & processed right then & gave me the photo. Only one I have that I think looks like me "most of the time".  ;)

Bedtime in Kansas. Temps dropped dramatically while ago and I hate to sleep away these few cool hours. Wish I knew if I got this flea bite from the sand down by the river of if cats shared. I did get the stuff on Tom & Tiger but Callie tore out of my hands and don't think I got enough on her to do any good. I caught them separately so they didn't hide. Such a struggle with the girls but Tom didn't even squirm.

Wishing all sweet dreams and a happy tomorrow. I'm going to open my bedroom door/slider a couple inches & hope the cats don't pester me. Probably sleep with one eye open since good chance of rain/storms during the night. 'Tis the season......Shirley

Shirley I wish you would have a picture of recent taken and put up. don't be ashamed of the wrinkles.we have earned them and the brown spots, God is a better artiest than we are or ever will be. Ok I am off the soap box and going to give my shot and take my night time pills. I done my bad habit again falling to sleep watching TV this afternoon. Nancy and I both did, she was smarter than I was she went to bed with a good night Kiss. so shot and pills and I am off there also. sweet dreams and good night everyone.

Now, Lloyd, that's about as new or close up as anyone will ever see, I'm not advertising my wrinkles! You could pick me out of a crowd with that picture, honest.

Cats were both in the bedroom last night & decided they wanted to get outside in the cool air. BUT, first, let's have some tuna fish! Fed them & Tiger decided she didn't want to go out but when Tom went out old Callie wanted in. Gave her a dish of tuna and she opted to go into her garage for the rest of the night. Crazy cat, she has a heated bed out there but prefers to sleep in the sawdust bin Cas built into the table saw stand. To get in she has to work her way through the air compressor that has other tools stacked on top & crawl into the drawer from the open back of the saw stand. Have a litter box, self feeder for dry food always full and usually a bowl of water (that might be empty right now). All 3 are settled in so I am heading back to bed. SO cool out but wind is howling, news man said possible power outages. So far no rain here and we sure need it.

Good morning every one, hope everyone one got as good a night's sleep as I did. I will  take nights like that as often as they come along. Much better  than  those with no sleep.

AMY  your nap of 2 hours sound like some I have had lately, I was never able to sleep in the day time. Oh what old age is doing to me. Made a blueberry pie yesterday and it really tastes yummy. Shared with 2 of my friends here and of course Yvette  and I enjoyed it, too. Only 1 small piece left. Now do I give it to Yvette when she gets here or keep it for me.

SHIRLEY  only that one brother was like that. No one else in the family was a bigit. He was worse when he came back from WW2 and seving in the Pacific.

JANE  when one has room  to store things they do add up. I got rid of many things when I moved here. Had all kind of places to store things at my apartment in my son's house. No place to store much here so not collecting anything. Some things I use but not oft en I have stored on the floor in the closet in the bedroom. Now  take a day off from your "attic".

BUBBLE  LOVE YOUR POST ABOUT OUR FLAG. I wish people would fly the flag more than they do, not just on a holiday. There is a flag pole here and they only put the flag up in late spring till cold weather sets in. There is a spo t likgh to shine on it but it is never turned on so the flag is in the dark at night. That surprises me with the vets that live in this building. The witch will have her own way.

ROSEMARY  I think Bubble is the one to help you. It is so long since I posted a graphic I have forgotten how.

SHIRLEY  wish you could get a good night's sleep for a change without worrying about the cats. They can stay out all night even if it storms, they will find a place to keep dry.

LLOYD  I have been sleeping a tleast an hour after Yve tter leaves every day and slep good all night lately.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone.

Not sure what today will bring......we piled one half a bigger half of the wood and still have another smaller one to pile. If the rain stays away and the mosquitos and blackflies also stay away it will get done. Need to take Kyle into town to pick up some 2x4's then get to work here.

Shirley, I know it is work doing the wood but the surroundings are soothing. I am listening to geese and loons fly over some so low you can hear the wind in their wings. Little songs birds blasting out their songs and I am in hailing the smell of lilacs... Now the next load of wood I thin k the lilacs will be over with but that is alright.

Gloria, share the one remaining piece :)

Jane ,that purging also needs to be done here...but where does one start?

Better get a move on....slept in again..

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's in the low 70s here right now and supposed to be in the mid  80s later today with rain in the prediction.

I took yesterday off (about half).  I did a small corner.  I made the mistake of going in there to look for jam jars for  the weekend.  My daughter and SIL will be up from Maryland and we're going to the Berry Farm to pick strawberries on Saturday morning.  Then on Sunday, he's learning to make jam.  It feels good to be able to pass on a recipe that used to be my mother's and my grandmother's with upgrades in the canning process.  He's so excited to be able to do this and I'm happy to help.  When he asked me what makes my jam different from others he's tasted, I told him it was partly the fact that I went to the fields and picked the berries myself (with love) and then I added a lot of love to the jam with the other ingredients.  That's when he decided that he wanted to go pick berries and make jam with me.  I'm almost as excited about it as he is!

GLORIA, I agree with AMY...share the last piece of pie with Yvette.

AMY, how is it possible that you can make piling wood sound like such a pleasant job?

SHIRLEY, I'll be looking for you with your picture in mind!

I wish you all a pleasant day!
Make it your own in every way!

What is your recipe for strawberry jam?
Freshly picked for sure has all the flavor too, not like those kept refrigerated in transport.

Nothing is as good as fresh picked RIPE, instead of having to pick so green. Jane, I do wish I had hung around the kitchen more when growing up. Never learned how to make jam or can, have tried a few times & end up throwing it away for fear of poisoning my family!

Gloria, way I see it you could eat that piece of pie and not say anything about it, or go ahead and share.... good for you for baking it!  Maybe another to put a few pounds on your bones!

Wind last night was awful, lots of leaves on the ground under the sweet gum tree. Yard guys just called & said they can't come Friday so how about today???  It really isn't needed but will look too shabby if it has to go another whole week. They are firemen so have this lawn service on their days off. Movin' on..........
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for June 1, 2020
Post by: JaneS on June 10, 2020, 02:17:22 PM
Bubble, the recipe is very simple....

8 cups of fresh strawberries w/stems removed and then crushed to make 4 cups
7 cups of sugar
1 pouch of Certo or Sure gel

Add sugar to the prepared fruit and mix well.  Add (or not) a 1/2 Tbsp of butter to help reduce the foaming. (I do)  Using high heat, bring to a boil that won't be stirred down.  Boil exactly one minute stirring constantly.  Stir in fruit pectin. Return to full boil. Boil exactly one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and skim off any foam

Ladle immediately into sterilized jars.  Cover with two-piece lids (and this is where I deviate from all the directions.

Turn jars upside down on the counter for 5 minutes and then turn right side up.  You'll hear the snap when they seal.  After you turn them right side up, don't move them until they are cool.

OOPS, I forgot to tell you to add the LOVE!  You can do that any time from beginning to end.  And you can do it more than once!

REWRITING what I can remember of my post this morning.

Today would be Pat Scott's Birthday......HAPPY BIRTHDAY in Heaven Sweet Lady.

We are having a nicer day today after several windy days and cooler temps.  Several places in the high country had snow night before last.  There was a lot of tree damage from the terrible "Derecho" Saturday afternoon....lots of trees down on homes and cars.  My neighbors tree thankfully fell towards the street so no damage and we can get by around it, so we are not high on the priority list for removal as of now.

Dr. Dave called me with wonderful news a bit ago.  Michele is getting chemo right now, but got the report from her oncologist that the last scan done this past Monday is clear!  We are so thankful and I again want to say thank you to all of you for the continued positive thoughts and prayers 🥰🙏🥰🙏

Thank you, BUBBLE for sharing the wonderful and detailed article regarding Flag Day.  I am going to share it with my Dad as he will really enjoy it as well.

JANE, how nice to have a trip to the strawberry fields to look forward to.  Sweet that your SIL wants to help you make your jam.

SHIRLEY, I really like your new picture.... and you are Right, it looks just like you !  Those kitties of yours sure do like to keep you busy.....they are mighty lucky cats to have you for their mama.

Darn....the whole first part of my post is missing😢😤😤😤. I kept saving it, but some how on the last save it was not all there....😢😢😢

AMY, how nice you were able to enjoy the nice fragrance of the lilacs  while you were piling the wood.  Sorry you were bothered with the black flies and those dern skeeters though😢  More 2/4's sounds like another trug is in the making!

GLORIA, I am willing to guess that Yvette would want YOU to enjoy the last piece of Blueberry Pie😘  Sure makes me happy for you that you were able to make the pie with help and that you enjoyed it so much❣️

I have been on the telephone and it has been awhile since I wrote this so think I better post it before I loose it.

Enjoy your day 💐

Jenny

I never in my life cry when hurt or sad, but MAD and such tender & welcome news as yours, I just come unglued! Give her a big "thank God" from me and celebrate to the hilt!  We never know about tomorrow but right now, this moment in time, the whole family (including you & Bob) have got to be on cloud nine!   :nanadance:  :bravo:  :cheer:  :dancingdog:  :excited:  :happydance:  :pineapple:    :woohoo:

Jenny, I'm so happy to see such good news about Michelle!

Janie, yum for the fresh strawberries and jam.  #1 son/dil have srawberries and other berry bushes plus a peach tree in their yard. I gave all my jars to her and usually get a few back filled with something delicious.

I'm sitting on my patio " in the cool of the evening" watching a hummingbird, 2 chickadees and 2 pairs of cardinals flit in and out to the feeders.
Quite a change from yesterday when gale force winds blew dust in from New Mexico from late afternoon until this morning.

Now 2 crows have perched in the cottonwood tree and are "discussing" this odd critter invading their space. Their pattern of caws sounds as if they really are having a conversation---and a rabbit has just come to nibble on the sprouts of bird seed under the feeder.
The cottonwood leaves must have a shiny side because the angle of the lowering sun is making them look like they're tipped in gold.
And that's what's going on in my world.  :calm:

Wishing Everyfriend a restful night.  :smitten:

Oh, JENNY, like Shirley, my eyes began to leak when I read your news!  I breathed a "Thank you God!" and let the tears come!  I'm so happy for all of you!

We had a hot, humid day that ended with rain showers tonight.  They held off until Mickie and I got back from our after-supper walk and we were able to enjoy them.  A bit of thunder but just light rain...perfect for watering the grass and gardens!

I promised myself I would not even open the door to that back room today but I had to go in there to look for something and I found it but I couldn't come back out without pitching in and doing a bit more organizing and tossing.  It still doesn't look good and I'm probably the only one who can see the progress but the kids will appreciate all this work when I'm gone. I figure another two weeks, a little help from my family and I can call the guys to come do the floor.  Then I have to reorganize and put everything back in its proper place and label it all. And maybe even toss some more stuff.

Right now, we're waiting for a shower to stop and then we'll take one last trip out in the yard and then head for Dreamland.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Rosemary the Name is MacLean  in Dowart Scotland. when the famley came to the united states, the changed the splling  to read ( McClain ) that was how it was spelled when Nancy and I got Married. Located on  the extreme north eastern part of the Isle of Mull. the wall of two sides is fourteen thick, and the stairway winds up through the walls.   there is five pages about the castle and there seven pages of the family History. If there are interest about it maybe can get G D to help me copy and paste it,

Good morning everyone.

Windy weather here, started last night along with thunder and pounding rain.  I took the umbrella down from the picnic table and put chairs out of harms way.. We did need the rain.
Not sure what today will bring a lot of neglected jobs more than likely. May even get some sewing in!!

Jane, no fun today. We piled all the wood yesterday and of course we did have help..skeeters and blackflies made us work a little faster. Ordered another load .. No local strawberries here yet.

Jenny AMEN!! So nice to hear Michele is now pulling ahead. Will pray that it stays this way. She is one amazing lady with a strong will to live.

Gloria, hope your eye feels better and soon. My friend emailed me to say (warning) she had pink eye.....but it turned out to be allergies She never had allergies before but has them now at 80 yrs old. She isn't too impressed with it either.

Callie, what a wonderful picture you painted out on your patio. I have only seen one cardinal here a long time ago and I have been told they are back this year .

Time to get ready to take Kyle out..

Enjoy your day everyone. stay safe.

Good morning.  It isn't really a good morning here but the wonderful news from Jenny about Michele makes any day into a GOOD day.  I am so happy for her and for all of the family.

It is supposed to be thunderstorms today but in spite of that I am off to the dentist.  I broke a tooth yesterday.  Didn't just chip it....I broke it clean off and it is right in upper front.  I don't want to open my mouth for any reason!  Luckily my dentist could take me in quickly but I have a feeling that he is going to tell me I'm in for a lot of trouble and big expense.  <sigh>

I hope you all have a good day.  Take care.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a beautiful morning here.  I have the windows open to a soft breeze following a night of off and on showers.  Everything got watered and it all smells so fresh this morning.  The temp is only 73 right now and is heading for a high of 80.  Not too bad!

Mickie has a grooming appt today and my groomer isn't allowed to do house visits yet so I have to get her there.  Frankie works at the time of the appt so my nice neighbor is giving us a ride there.

GLORIA, I hope your eye is feeling better by now.  I know how it is to see from one eye all the time.  So I understand what you're feeling.

PHYLLIS, I sure don't know why we can't keep our teeth and have them stay in good shape.  Food is our compensation for not being able to do so many other things.  Seems like we should be able to chew for the rest of our lives without worrying about having them break.

I've decided that today will be laundry day and maybe it will keep me out of that back room for a day.  I have stuff to take to Goodwill and since Frankie will be here with my car tomorrow, she can help me do that.  I also have stuff for the dumpster so she can help me with that, too.  There's some stuff back there that will go out with Christy and her hubby when they go home on Sunday and stuff he can help me move.  Then we shall see.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share
because we all care!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for June 1, 2020
Post by: Shirley on June 11, 2020, 09:37:36 AM
Gloria, has the doctor ever given you a reason why the film works like that?  I've had "goopy" eyes before, when waking up, think it allergies of some sort (natural or even paint fumes) but not so bad it wouldn't clear up fast. Do wish you could find the reason. When it comes to eyes I am paranoid, have not had an eye doctor to put total faith in since about 1989 when the one that fixed me up in one visit... retired.

Amy, I've never lost the "rush" of wonder when hearing the swish of those big wings gliding through the air. You are right, not work when so peaceful all around. I've been feeding birds a little better lately and see quite a few cardinals visiting, male & female. Just this week I've had the little red headed house finches.

Sadly, the cowbirds are here and chase off others. They are so brazen they don't even fly off when I go near the feeder to scare them away. One year we watched the house finchs build a nest over the light fixture by the garage doors, got out the ladder to see 4 pretty little eggs. The cowbird showed up & daily pushed an egg out so she could lay her egg in it's place. As the mama finch sat on the nest the cowbird stayed away, even after they hatched & poor mama finch fed those babies. When they were ready to fly here came Mama Cowbird to claim her babies! So I've never wanted them to be around after that!

All 3 cats came running to the door, not sure what upset them, don't see the mowers or any reason to scare them, but each went to their fav place, Callie to her garage, Tom to the basement & Tiger on the couch near me. She will go to the bedroom when I head that way to get dressed. Plenty to do while cool, supposed to be 93 today.

Oops, Jane, Phyllis & Lloyd showed up. Jane, sounds like you have everything & everybody rolling right along. All of a sudden it seems everyone I know is doing the clean out & toss routine. Guess that's what happens when we are grounded and notice how much we've accumulated, right? Phyllis, my heart stops with thoughts of a tooth problem. Hugs to you. And Lloyd, have to giggle at you. When you hear about food I can feel you melt down at the thought! I also love to eat, maybe it is a Missouri trait!

Have a great June day, every friend!

Good morning everyone..

A fantastic morning 46° out there at the moment. We are off to pick up items that we bought for us at Costco from our friend. First we are going to head to another small town to pick up (I hope) Jello products for both of us,plus Lysol wipes  for her.

As you can see ,thank you Bubble for posting the photo our 3 rd load of wood came. We will deal with that when we come home. We are finding after each load our muscles are not as sore. Mind you we don't want to make a career of this either.....if all goes well one more load after this should take us through winter and have a surplus.

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Good morning everyone, I can see with both eyes this morning. I kept a warm wash cloth on my right eye most of the day yesterday. Was clear again when I woke this morning, hooray.
Better  news, got a call from my eye doctor's office yesterday to reschedule my appointment from April, Will have it now on 9-1 at 2:20 pm. Will have to call son to see if he will take me. The town car I use is still not running.

AMY  before Yvette left yesterday we had a downpouring rain and wind, lasted 5 minutes. Then we had showers the rest of the day on and off. Glad it had stopped when she left. I have never had allergies either except for raw onions. I miss seeing Cardinals here, they were at my feeder all the time.

LLOYD  we can keep dreaming right? That lobster was a big treat, they are getting too expensive these days.

PHYLLIS  glad your dentist was open. Mine will not  open till mid July.

JANE  65 here now and still humid.  Dream on-my cancelled last dentist appointment was to have some top teeth extracted.  Before I know it I will have a mouth full of false teeth.

SHIRLEY  the Cardinals are my favorite birds to watch, the pairs are so good  to each other. My eye doc tor said things like that film happen to some people at times. Just have to get through it till it leaves. My daughter when living in San Diego call this month June Gloom, lots of overcast or fog.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link.

AMY  glad I don't have to try and stack all that wood. At least it is cut and split.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning, Friends! The 6:00 am alarm that I accidentally set when changing batteries last time, is now doing the wake up call. Don't know how I set or can un-set that silly thing, but makes my heart race every time I'm in here when it goes off. Cooler outside than in so have the sliding door right by me open. Tom is looking in but not ready to come in, no sign of the girls. Going to be in the 90s again so outside chores better get done early. We just can't seem to get rain so must water. Grass now looking like late August. Onward!

Amy, that load of wood is impressive. Do you cover it after stacking? Thanks for posting, Bubble, & thanks for sharing the photo, Amy!

I have a new problem this week, suggestions for cures or fixes welcome. I have 4 or 5 bites on my body that aren't where normally you get flea bites, more like chiggers. But we have never had chiggers in this part of Kansas. I am not sure "oak mites" leave bites like this, they sure do itch! Don't think it safe to put that stuff on the back of my neck like I did the cats.  :-\  :crazy2: HELP!?

Glad to see you slip in, Gloria, and even gladder that your eye is better. Hate to be always rushing the summer away, but I'm ready for winter.... a cold enough one to get rid of these bugs. Used to be my busiest month was between March & April. All those chores of kids getting out of school & what to do for summer. Now time is busy taking care of cats, they don't mind like kids did!

Off to fix breakfast for me 'n the cats.

Sometimes things actually turn out better than you think they will.  The dentist was able to "glue" my tooth back in place.  It's a little shorter than it was but it fills up that big hole and I couldn't be more delighted.  I never dreamed he could do anything about it.  And, even though it cost a bit, it wasn't as expensive as I feared.

They required that I wear a mask, took my temperature at the reception desk, and asked me to use the hand sanitizer before going in to see the dentist.  Also, everyone in the waiting room was keeping their distance.

One thing I learned about wearing a mask:  For those of us who are hard of hearing, we, or, at least I, depend on being able to see someone's mouth when they are speaking to me so that I can understand what they are saying.  A hearing aid isn't always as helpful as it could be when trying to understand what is being said to me.  However, when everyone is wearing a mask you can't "see" what they are saying!  I was lost most of the time.  Couldn't understand a lot of what was being said to me and had to ask for things to be repeated often.  Getting old is embarrassing and very isolating.

I envy those of you who can open your windows to the fresh air.  It has been so humid here these past few days that it wouldn't be possible to do that.  The weather news tells us that we are supposed to have drier air come in this afternoon.  I'm looking forward to that!

Please take care, All.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  So far today, I'm on schedule.  My bed sheets are in the dryer so I can make up the bed for daughter and SIL.  Since I'm a VERY early riser, they sleep in the bedroom and I occupy the pullout on the sofa when they are here.

Frankie's still sleeping but her doggie has been out and fed and out again and Mickie and I had breakfast and a walk.

I have coffee ready to turn on for Frankie whenever she gets up.  And we're going to make a trip to Goodwill this morning to drop off some stuff.

I hope the lilacs are blooming and the birds are singing while you pile wood, AMY!

GLORIA, good the eye is better!

PHYLLIS, that's amazing about the tooth.  I wonder what the prediction is for how long that will last.  We have a lot of wet and a lot of action in our mouths.

SHIRLEY, I don't think you need pet protection for yourself but there are bug bite preventers for people!

Gotta get moving.  I'm going to do a practice run in the car this morning to see if I'm up to driving.  I've kind of enjoyed not having to do that  and only once or twice missed it.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share...
because we all care!

Good Morning,

Shirley, I have the same issue with itchy bites!  All I have to do is walk across the back yard or step into the mulch in the flower beds and the "no-see-ums" attack! Spraying myself with Off doesn't prevent but Hydrocortizone cream and After Bite gel help afterwards.  https://afterbite.com/ (https://afterbite.com/)  I can get it in a tube of gel that's rubbed on the bite area.

How did you turn the 6:00 a.m. alarm ON? Could you reverse that to turn it Off?  Or reset it to a later time?
My clock/radio has a tiny dial to set the alarm to either "radio" or "buzzer".  Sometimes the housekeeper accidentally pushes it to "buzzer" when she's dusting and I nearly jump out of bed when it goes off the next morning.

Phyllis,  Hooray for the good "tooth fix".  I, too, have issues understanding what people are saying if I can't see their mouths.  Also - there isn't enough room behind my ears for my hearing aids, glasses and mask straps.  So I either have to attach shoestrings to the mask straps and tie it behind my head or do without my hearing aids.  Very annoying!!!!

Gloria,  I sometimes have that film, also.  Eye doctor suggested "shampooing" my eyes with baby shampoo and water "as hot as you can stand".  That helps but waiting it out seems to be the only solution.  Also very annoying!

Janie, you sure are a Busy Bee these days.  I know you're enjoying having the family around.  :smitten:
Your story about driving reminded me of a friend who was at home on oxygen after a long hospital stay.  The oxygen tank had a cord/tube that allowed her to go all around the house and she was slowly working her way from the bedroom to other rooms.  However, she said she wasn't going to let her husband know when she could get to the kitchen.  ;D

Yesterday was a productive and very nice day.  #1 son took me to a business appointment and then to the post office so I could send some certified mail.  We then stopped at Pepperoni Grill and went in for lunch. It had been so long since I'd gone out to eat that I almost forgot how to act in a restaurant.  :D  Another stop at Braum's market and then home.

I've run the little sprinklers in the flower beds and am ready to start on Domestic Duties.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Fabulous Friday.

A good day to EVERYFRIEND💐

Wow, lots of good news in here to read today.

PHYLLIS, what a nice surprise that the tooth was able to be glued in and saved you a even bigger expense.

GLORIA, happy your eyes are better.  You did not tell us who got to eat the one last piece of Blueberry Pie?  Inquiring minds want to know! 😘

JANE, I am smiling at the thought of you being able to drive again🥰. I hope the test drive went well! HAPPY you can finally take your stuff to the charity store....we need to do the same thing as ours have finally opened up here.

CALLIE, sounds like you had a very productive day, and how nice to be able to go out to lunch with your son.

SHIRLEY, I am feeling badly for you as you deal with the darn bites!  Ihope you can get something on them to help with the itching😤

Have a wonderful Friday.

Lloyd, if you want photos in you need to e-mail them to Bubble (look back at where she posted for Amy), we aren't supposed to post a photo any place but over in Photos.... I've been sending mine to her most of the time because she does a much better job resizing than I do... and as long as she is willing~~~~~  click on her photo and you can see her e-mail address. She is so kind to do this for us and put a link back in here so everyone can "hop over" to see.

Weather guessers saying we will have this HOT & DRY  weather for at least 7 more days. My grass is already looking dead so must get sprinklers fixed & use that well water!

Good news about that tooth, Phyllis.... and Callie, I'm going to make a trip to Braums for a "twisty"... chocolate & vanilla frozen yogurt cone... I kid you not, my little red car turns into one of those shops without me even pointing it's nose!

Matter of fact, sounds so good I may have to jump into little Red & go make me happy!

Shirley, I can see a Braums from my back window. Might try running a cable with a basket to the drive up window if I didn't have to ford a creek, chop through heavy underbrush and fight off all the skeeters and critters in between.

Callie & Shirley, I too love Braums.  Love their milk especially, but am a bit put out with them because when they switched to this new A2 Milk, they did away with their 1% milk, which has been my "go to" in the past.  Was recommended when I went to Cardiac Rehab Classes on Nutrition.  I always thought the 2% as well as the whole milk had an oily taste in the mouth.  (Maybe just me).  If either of you like Tamales, Braums carries a package of a dozen, for either $3.99 or $4.99, which is a lot cheaper than the grocery store, (they give you 6 for $4.99) and the Braums ones are delicious.  You can get pork, beef, or chicken tamales.  I steam them and have been known to eat 3 or 4 in one sitting, no "sides or additions" just the tamales. They are good sized, not teeny little things.  Yum!  They are not overly spicy either.  I guess I could put some chili on them, but when they taste as good as they do, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!! LOL. It's 11:17 PM here right now, and I have made myself hungry.  Will have to go to Braums tomorrow for tamales. (Where'd my healthy eating get off to?) :-[

Good morning bright and early. almost 3am. What e lse can I expect when I fall asleep early at night.

SHIRLEY  i AM NOT GOING OUTSIDE FOR SOME WALKING EXERCISE, THE SUN TOO HOT.. oOPS left the caps lock on again. I would not want to pass out in the heat in the middle of the parking lot. I think in the 24 years since I retired I have set my alarm twice and that was for early appointments. Have you tried vinegar or alchol on those bites? It stings a bit but takes itch away on me.

PHYLLIS  I know what you mean about watching someone's mouth when they talk. I have been doing that for years and lately thinking of getting my hearing tested. So far I have not had the AC on all night like that portable one. This window one cools great and at times I put a sweatshir t over my shoulders and back. Love it, keeps the bedroom cool, too.

JANE  I have not had any lilacs since I moved here and I do miss their scent. I still miss not having a car and the independance I had but I keew it was nonger  safe for me to do so.

LLOYD  I saw some roadrunners one time when I visited my daughter in San Diego.  Odd looking bird.

CALLIE  my eye doctor told me to use a clean wash cloth and get it wet with hot wate  r and keep trying to put it over my eye till coo enough to take it. It helps the feel but every time it hapens seems to take longer to clear. Amazing how Yvette does those Domestic Dutes for me in 2 hours 5 days a week.

JENNY  Yvette and I split that last piece of pie.

SHIRLEY  remember how BUNNIE was called the picture lady? I sent her some of mine till she talked me into trying a free trial of PSP, I sure got hooked on tha and loved it for several years. Last weathe r I heard last night was for almost a week of hot but low humidity. Can take that.

TOMEREADER  I have lived in New England all my life and being a Yankee never had a tomale.

Have a good day everyone and keep safe.

Laundry today and work about in the house. Have some pastry I should do something with also.

All the wood is now piled with just one more load to come and that is it!!

Gloria , that is way too early to meet the day...hope you can find some zz's today.

Shirley, we used to make a paste of baking soda and put on the bites.

Callie, you just reminded me that I need to pick up ice cream today.Just finished the last bit on bread pudding.

Phyllis, happy to read it was an easy fix along with not hurting your wallet too much.

Joy, hope everything is good your way.

Better get a move on here,

Enjoy your day everyone stay safe.

Good Saturday Morning to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Another beautiful morning here, but it is going to get HOT today.  That means the conditions are ripe for afternoon thunderstorms and that can mean the dreaded  H A I L 😩

AMY, I am curious if the amount of wood you get each time is what we call a "cord"?  That would be 128 cubic feet or 8 X 4 X 4. When you get it all stacked would you mind sharing a picture of your hard work?  I would love to see it.  Hope your laundry day goes well....I can almost smell the line dried items 😘

GLORIA, smiling at the thought of you and Yvette sharing the piece of pie 😘 Such sweet memories of Our Bunny......so many wonderful friends that are no longer with us makes me sad😩 Hope you have a son or two to drop by for a visit today😘

We do not have Braun's in Colorado 😩, but I would be there today to buy some of the tamales if we did......hope you do get out to buy yours today, TOMEREADER. SOUNDS so good to me!

LLOYD, I hope everything will work out for your granddaughter and family to move in with you and Nancy.  Having younger ones around to help out sounds like a great idea.

No plans for the Day in particular....just the same ol do this, do that!

Enjoy your day....

This has been one very eventful day!  Christy and her husband arrived around 7 on Friday night and we were planning to be in the strawberry field at 8 a.m. this morning.  We got there a few minutes before 8 and the place was busy already.  We got our assigned place and it took us less than 45 minutes to park, wash hands, get our containers weighed, pick all the berries we wanted and then pay for them.

We came home and Roelkey (pronounced relky) made us a special brunch (bacon, eggs, special potatoes and toasted English muffins)  When we finished eating we did the job that brought them here in the first place.  Roelkey wanted to learn how to make strawberry jam like mine.  We got all set up and I supervised while they made a batch of jam.  And hey have enough berries for another batch to be made at home on their own.  And I have enough berries for a batch of jam for me!  I reminded them that they had to made sure to include the special ingredient or it wouldn't taste as good....LOVE is the special ingredient!

Now for the bad news...We lost my brother-in-law last night!  He's the one I never referred to as a BIL.  He was always the "big brother I always wanted".  We all know that he's in a better place and that he's no longer in any pain but we already miss him terribly.  Maybe when you think of it you could say a prayer for JIM!  And maybe for MARGIE too because she's going to be lost without him!

The kids will be back soon so I better get moving and get some stuff done before they show up!

I'm sorry that I didn't comment on anything that anyone said but my mind is a bit of jumble right now.  I wish you all well, free of bug bites, tamales in the fridge, ice cream in the freezer and love all around.

Janie,  my sympathies and prayers for the loss of your brother.
Sounds as if you have had A Fine Day otherwise with your family.  I'm amazed at the amount of strawberries you were able to pick.  That must be a huge farm!

Tome, Braum's hadn't yet been established in Texas when we moved here in 1977.  I used to tease a good friend in Amarillo that the only reason they came to visit was so she could go to Braum's. She was SO delighted when one was in Amarillo.
Don't know when it went to Kansas but when #2 son lived in Colorado around 1994-97, he used to take an ice chest back with him when he came to visit so he could stop at one in western Kansas and stock up.

I'm okay with the A2 milk but am most upset about the change in the fruit flavored yogurt. A friend told me several years ago about using fruit-flavored yogurt on dry cereal instead of milk.  I told my doctor and he recommended Braum's yogurt "with no sugar added".  (I have to watch carbs because of blood sugar issue). So I enjoyed strawberry, strawberry-banana, blueberry, peach and black cherry flavors, each of which had 15 carbs per carton.  Perfect for my breakfast carb count with toast and peanut butter (diabetic dietician's recommendation for protein)!
About 6 months ago, the strawberry and strawberry-banana no sugar flavors disappeared completely.  More recently, blueberry and peach became the only ones with 15 carbs.  All the others have 35.  The Braums farms are just southwest of OKC and I'm tempted to send a letter!!!!!

I do enjoy the Braum's Market and have been able to get quite a few fresh veggies, frozen entrees, meat, etc. there.  I don't care for Mexican (I know, I know...."how could I live in this area and not...." ;D )but was delighted to find the seafood and chicken salads and packages of four salmon filets.

This has been a lazy day.  Last night I made oven fried chicken fingers and am pretty sure there are a few left. Might combine them with the  spinach/artichoke dip and bruchetta in an edible Parmesan bowl I brought home from lunch out with son on Thursday. That will qualify as protein, carbs and veggies, won't it?   ;)

Callie, I actually called Braums to put in my two cents about the 1% milk.  At this time, "we don't have any plans to re-do the 1% milk".  I probably knew that before I called, but one of the cashiers at my store, told me to call.
I didn't get there today to get my tamales, but tomorrow for sure.  As I texted my BFF, today I was self-defining "ennui".  Could get interested in anything; reading, TV, cleaning.  But boy did I have some nice naps!

Good morning everyone, a nice cool one here of 54  and low humidity. Love it, No AC running but 2 fans going. With the sun hitting here all afternoon it does get warm/hot in the afternoons.

AMY  like you I can take this weather all year, well maybe one beautiful snowfall in winter and rain at night when we need it. I am a dreamer I guess. Like you my daughter did her laundry yesterday. So windy that when she hung the second batch out she took the first batch in. I used to love hanging the clothes on a windy day, always seemed much softer, especially in winter when they froze on the lines but the wind blew them dry and smelling so fresh.

JENNY  my younger son comes every Saturday. He and his older daughter opened their pool yesterday. Late with it this year but it just getting warm enough to start enjoying it.

JANE  my son went by the farm yesterday before coming here and they will have their  strawberries in the beginning of July, really late this year with the crazy weather we had. So sorry about JIM. I remember you saying he was your brother not just BIL, He has had health problems a long time but still sad to lose a loved one.

CALLIE  I never had Mexican food until my daughter made tacos when I was visiting and I could live  without them.

TOMEREADER  after waking too early yesterday I spent most of the afternoon napping and slept great last night.

PHYLLIS  JOY  LLOYD    hope you wake full of energy today.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone.

Lovely sunny morning here, temp is 35° F at the moment.

A day of rest here, just have to uncover the plants in the garden as they were calling for frost last night.

Jane, ask your daughter if she tucked her pumpkins in  and no I didn't kiss them good night. :2funny:  They are coming right along too.

Gloria, we have a fire on this morning, middle of June and still burning wood!!We will let the fire go out now and hope that is it until fall.

Jenny this works out to be a bit more  , he is generous in his loads. What you are describing is a bush cord...some here will also sell a face cord  which is 4'x 8' x 16". Yes, I will send photos when all done.

Callie, Rosemary, why is it that once we enjoy a product they either  change it or take it off the shelf? We have that problem here with tea. We like King Cole that is made on the east coast and could get it here but now the stores have stopped bringing it in. This is a good strong tea ,better than Tetley .

Better go uncover the plants..

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe..

Jane, I'm sorry for your sadness.  I know how much you will miss him.

Yesterday was beautiful here, too, and it is nice this morning but "they" are telling us this coming week will be gray and rainy all week.  Oh, well.....in to each life, etc. etc.

The strawberry jam sounds wonderful.  Our strawberry season here was not as good as it usually is.  Too much rain and a couple of frosty nights at the wrong time.  I had some of our local strawberries and they were good but we've had better in other years.  The blueberries are really good right now and I am enjoying them so much.  North Carolina blueberries are exceptional and we've got a lot of them.  Some of the local farmers grow them in "high tunnels" so the weather doesn't bother them too much.  I ordered more to be delivered by Papa Spuds on Tuesday.  And, I've got some cucumbers coming, too.  It's time to make some "icebox" (refrigerator) pickles, I think.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was a busy, good, working and taxing weeked.  I slept well last night and the Marylanders left early this morning.  I've got the sheets washed and in the dryer and I'm thinking of taking a snooze while thy dry.  And if I sleep through the buzzer, so be it!

Thanks for the nice thoughts and comments about JIM.  I know he's in a better place but I miss him so much I have to keep reminding myself.  And every time I think of him, the tears come.  I think the tears are fo Margie and me, not for him because he's OK now.

Gonna go close my eyes and see what happens!

I wish you all a happy day!
Make it your own in every way!
