wonderful poem by Li Young-Lee .  It describes aging:

"Each day, less leaves

In the tree outside my window.

More leave, and every day

More sky. More of the far,

and every night more stars."

All in All
by Max Ebb

Paging back through my life story
Kinda takin inventory
All in all, it's been a real good ride.

I've run a thousand highways
I've slid off in some ditches
I've love some pretty women
And I've fought some sonsabitches
All in all, it's been a real good ride.

All in all, I really can't complain
I've laughed in the sunshine, and I've danced in the rain.
Looking back, I've very few regrets,
Although I wish I hadn't smoked all those cigarettes
But all in all, it's been a real good ride.

Sailed across the ocean in a little tiny boat
Lost count of all the times I thought
This may be all she wrote,
But all in all, it's been a real good ride.

Yes all in all, it's been a real good ride
I've had a ball. There ain't much I haven't tried.
And after all these years, I've got it figured out
Yeah, the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about
And all in all, it's been a hell of a ride.

sheilak1939  (from old SeniorNet)
Quiet Friends

Unless your ear to her throat is bent
You'll never hear her sweet content
As we sit together here and chat,
So silent sings my cat.

But rest your hand on silken fur
And feel the rumble shaking her.
Know, not by ear but with a touch,
She enjoys your presence, oh so much.

You, my friend, are that same way.
What you feel inside you cannot say.
That we may keep our frindship strong
I clasp your hand and touch your song.

The above poem was written about my mom's cat who purred silently.

Great graphics & text, Bubble, thank you. Got up at 2:00 am because a cat scratched at the door to go out. I got on the computer to check radar before opening the door. No rain so out they went. These purr a lot but are nocturnal and have changed my sleeping habits since they became boss 7 years ago. Might as well check mail while I'm on the computer.... and learned about shooting stars from Amy.  ::)  :-\  :o

Good morning everyone...

I must admit I am sitting her grinning from ear to ear giggling. Many a night I have laid under the stars and wished upon a shooting star!! After seeing what we saw ,that could have been a crappy wish! :2funny:

Yesterday was a fun but busy day. We picked up all that they had of triple mix for the trugs then off to pick up chicken for my friends dogs. Did stop at a hardware store and they actually had canning jars! Picked up 4 cases of those and off we went again.
After we got home our friends came and picked up all that we had picked up for them plus a case of jars. They stayed for a visit and off they went home. She brought me tiny cucumbers that will be put into dills for Kyle. He should have enough now as he is the only one that eats them.

Today we are off again......don't know how I can take all this excitement :)Kyle wants to go to the cheese factory, chocolate factory and we are dropping off some pickles for my sister on the way.

Lloyd, I am sorry you are having computer problems......hope you get it fixed and soon.

Shirley, we always keep an ear out for our kids and our pets. Mothers instinct?

Better get going...

Enjoy your day everyone ...stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem and the boinger just went for Mickie's breakfast.

BUBBLE, I loved everything in our nice, clean Soda Shoppe.  Have to tell you that last Sunday was Grandparents Day in Mexico.  My Grandson, Daniel, who lives there called me.  We had a nice chat and I loved every minute of it.

I'm off to get Mickie her breakfast and mine too.  I'll try to get back later!  Enjoy your day, Everyone.  And I still plan to wish on "shooting stars"! Some of them have to be real!  They were there first!

Another wet morning.  8 inches of rain last night in this area. Flooding all around.  Some children are missing when a car was swept off the road into a flooded creek.  Our house is OK but we are really wet.  More rain this afternoon.  It has been a very hard year to remain positive.

I hope all of you are well and safe.

Good morning everyone. Another good night and I had the bedroom window open for the first time in months for the night. I noticed one of the beautiful maple trees at the side of the parking lot has some leaves starting to change a tiny bit of color.

BUBBLE  I pray that meeting went well and now you can enjoy peace at last.

JANE  at first some would go outside and sit on their rollators or bring a folding chair  out. Now they no longer  do that. The witch must be happy now. She must like everyone being as miserable as she is.

AMY  I have always been a good sleeper getting my 8 hours a night. Think that is why I feel washed out when I do not get it.

JOY  if we had a nicer manager I think this place would not have all the rooms down om the first floor would not be locked up, like the library and the exercise room. Good thing the mail room and the laundry room have no doors.

JANE  glad to know it is Lloyd's computer and not him that is not working.

SHIRLEY  I am with you about politics or some that are in there just to get rich with bribes and graft. OOPS  did I say that? ;() At the end ot Wheel of Fortune there is something about it being filmed before the pandemic.

JANE  no rush about the carrot soup.

BUBBLE  love the graphics and the poems. Thanks.

I got those shooting stars, too. They sure get around.

AMY  crappy? groan    but true.

PHYLLIS  that was too much rain. Hope you stay out of any flooding. Glad my family all lives on hillws way above any water. This buildg is above any waterline, too.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

Happy September Oneth,

Heavy rain "parked" over OKC area last night. Flooding in many areas but, fortunately, not in my neighborhood.  Very gloomy this morning and looks as if it could pour at any time.  Glad I have my errands done.

Shirley, Facebook pix of Leadville during the past two days show snow covering Mt. Elbert/Mt. Massive and some along the streets.  Not really too early but may affect the aspen color.

Same old same old in my little corner of the world.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good afternoon from a much cooler and less smokey Colorado!  We have many white peaks here to view today😘 Not unusual, however I am NOT ready for the snow flakes to be falling yet😩🤣  The pictures from Leadville were sure pretty this morning, CALLIE😘

GLORIA, Son Mark spent the night near your daughter last night, in Kingman.  We just got the call from him that he has safely arrived in his new home in Palm Desert.  This mama is sure relieved that this part of the move is over and done safely.

Megan, Jonah and the kitty cat will fly there on Thursday.  We found out last night that Megan's Dad is going to fly with her and we are so thankful. She flies into Ontario, so has a 70 mile drive to their new home.  Mark will park the van at the airport a couple of hours before she arrives as he flies off to Sacramento to pick up a rental truck to get their things out of storage and drive them down to Palm Desert.  That poor guy sure has a lot of driving and loading/Unloading to do.....this mama is trying not to be too stressed out as she follows along with him on this adventure.

Michele was called to her oncologists office yesterday.  She was scheduled to go in tomorrow.  They have her maintenance chemo plan ready, and she will start it tomorrow.  It is certainly more than we had hoped it would be, but we understand it is what they feel is necessary to keep her tumors away😩😢  She will have chemo treatments two times a month, just as before but hopefully they are smaller amounts that will not leave her so wiped out and feeling so sick.  They will  rescan her in 3 months to make sure this maintenance dosage is doing the job.  She posted this on FB this morning.....

"This is my fight! It was Chadwick's fight. It's been 5 years since diagnosis. Countless surgeries, ostomy bag for 9 months, 12 chemos, 3 years clear, recurrence, brain surgery, gamma knives, radiation treatment, 24 more chemos....going in today to find out how I keep my disease under control with maintenance chemo. You are NEVER too young! Get your colonoscopy if over 45. Listen to your body. Push your doctors if something doesn't seem right. Live your life like Chadwick did!  #livelikechadwick #nevertooyoung #colorectalcanceralliance #teammichelehardin #kickingrectalcancersass #nationofallies #livelikechadwick #notallsuperheroswearcapes #icandohardthings💪"

Thank you all for your much appreciated support, and I ask you to continue to pray for our loved one and all the rest of the souls that are struggling with their own fight to survive cancer🙏

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

Well, it's been a busy and (kind of) productive day for me.  I got the tomatoes ready to make sauce for use in recipes and after cooking it down to the proper thickness, I ended up with 12 of the really small jelly jars.  It holds about a cupful...just about what I need in my meatloaf, etc.

The weather here was absolutely gorgeous most of the day.  Mickie and I had some very nice walks.  It was 68º this morning when we made our first walk and the high was 75º.  I loved it!  No A/C all day!

Now I'm ready for some shuteye. I'm going to try to stay up until about 10:30 so I don't have to get up so early in the morning.  My son is going to lead me to the mechanic's place (it's out in the country) and we're going to drop off my car for inspection and an oil change tomorrow evening.  So I'll be stuck at home all day Thursday.  No big deal!  I stay home most days anyway.  I'm kind of planning to do the carrot soup again on Thursday.  I think I'll take tomorrow off from the canning and make some kind of casserole that I can eat every day for a week (except for the day I'll eat the carrot soup that doesn't fit in the jars. I also have some bills to pay and a couple phone calls to make and some office papers to shred.  I'm trying to get organized

LLOYD, I'm glad to hear you're back on line and back in the Soda Shoppe.  We all missed you but I had the chance to talk to you.  Isn't it nice to have grandkids who know how to do all this technical stuff?

Now I'm going to finish all the "before bed" things that need to be done before I can actually go to bed.  I remember one time the kids were all in bed and my husband and I were watching something on TV.  He said, It's getting late. Time to go to bed."  And he went to bed.  A half hour later, he came back out and said, "What the heck are you doing? It's been a half hour."  I was cleaning up the kitchen, locking the doors, turning off lights all over the house inside and out, emptying all the door knobs of hanging clothes, picking up shoes...I'm sure you all know the drill!  Well, here I go....

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Me, too, heading to bed. Last cat fed & dish washed. Sons are going to be here tomorrow, one after he gets on work & the other one when ever he finds a chance to get away.

Everyone I talked to today had trouble sleeping last night. Cat got me up about 2:00am & I couldn't go back to sleep until after eating breakfast about 5 or 6 ... slept a couple hours & been at it slowly all day.  Just heard what sounds like a drone going "down the street" in the air. Always guessing it's Google doing their maps. I check the maps every now & then, to see what time of year they went through, if the RV was in the driveway. Haven't changed vehicles for quite a while, but over the years we always had an extra vehicle sitting out so could date the pictures.

Callie, I took a look at the snow on the mountains. The area my grandson is going to (Mt.Princeton..Salida/Buena Vista) had no snow on any of the cams. I can't believe I'm not going to be able to go to CO again, we'll see....

Jenny, Michele is an inspiration, can't believe what a strong person she has been. I would think all the doctors and nurses that take care of her must be impressed with her spirit. Know you will miss Jonah but for sure. you will enjoy going to visit. Andy just called, he is putting together all the stuff his son & girlfriend will need for their trip out. His daughter, husband & 2 kids are visiting a friend in CO Springs... so Andy sounded really sad that "HE wasn't going to get to go!"  We do love CO.  :smitten:

I know I was here early because we were making cracks about those shooting stars... and if anyone didn't know the inside joke, not sure who started it but the one that opened for me came from Amy. AND that's why I couldn't go back to sleep, I checked radar to see if okay for cats to go out & then e-mail & the funny that kept me awake. When I get videos they don't always open on my computer so if more than one person sends the same, I don't why one works & not another. My daughter keeps sending stuff with png or something like that, and I can't open. I don't know enough to know what I don't know. (understand?)

Off to bed.... off, anyway. :uglystupid2:  :crazy2:   Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Good morning everyone...

Light rain here this morning...ground has been so dry here it is wicking up all the drops it can.

Yesterday was another fun day, Kyle stocked up on both chocolate and his Old Sharppe cheese. I picked up canning lids and eye of the round roast to can. Then on the way home stopped at a Mennonite road stand and picked up a quart of garlic.

Not sure what today will bring....have pickles to work on ,meat to can and cleaning to do....oh well some will get done others will just wait in line.

Roley, so good to see you. Hope you and the Mrs are feeling much better.

Lloyd, welcome back. Thank goodness you have help on hand to help fix your computer.

Jenny, I have said it before and will say it again Michele is one amazing lady . She doesn't give up and meets this with determination . What a spokes lady she is for others that may not have the strength to carry on. Kyle goes next month for his check up and one always worries..and pray for good news.

Shirley, we used to travel a lot when we had the trailer but those days are also gone. Loved going to different places, enjoying the sites, especially their museums.

Phyllis I hope they found the children . No control when rain or fire gets out of hand.:(

Gloria, on our trips we also noticed a lot of trees starting to get their colour.I hope we have a long lovely  fall but more like winter is going to set in.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Good Morning Friends!  I've been up for some time just doing breakfast, dog walks, dog pills, and whatever! I've decided that today will be a "Goof Off" day for me.  I think Cooper will be here later and it's a rainy, cool day.  I can't think of a better reason for goofing off!

I have a bunch of odd jobs to do and I'll keep at it until they're finished but I'm not going to take on anything BIG today.  Just the usual stuff plus some phone calls and paying a couple of bills

I hope you all have a lovely, relaxing day! Make it your own in every way!  And whatever you do, share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Good morning.  I had thought to have the oil changed on the car today but I am re-thinking that.  It is supposed to be very hot...94 deg...and more rain.  The oil change can wait until the weather is a little more comfortable.

I just heard on the morning news, Amy, that they haven't found the childrens' bodies yet.  The mother was released from the hospital and is back home.  She, and the whole family, must be devastated.

Stay safe, Everyone.

Good afternoon,

Shirley,  the pictures of Leadville were taken/posted by individuals.  I doubt that snow on streets/yards lasted very long.

As I posted elsewhere, the Plan du Jour was to have a leisurely day.  So far, the only leisurely thing I've done is sleep in.

Phone started ringing  (2 from a friend - the rest from numbers I didn't recognize so didn't answer - and of course, they all left long messages), HOA yard crew began mowing/trimming, trash truck rumbled by, HOA skylight inspectors clomped around on roof, etc. etc.

I am SO ready for a change of scenery, a change of activities, and a change of subjects.  Doesn't look as if any of these will change any time soon.  >:(

Now I'll go pout in the corner until I can stop being grumpy.

Would send Everyfriend a hug but will have to do with an elbow-bump...and then go use sanitizer on the elbows.  :tickedoff:  :buck2:

Good Afternoon Everyone,
from the sunny and warm rocky
coast of Maine...

I had my day out this morning,
for blood work and picking up
grocery's at the store that
takes my order on line and brings
it out to the car.

I have had good luck doing this,
and either Kelly, or Kelly and I
pick it up after my errands are
finished.

We drove by the big park here
in the middle of Portland,  and there
are hundreds of people who are
sleeping on the ground there ..
(Living in the park) ...  Our
homeless people are in big
trouble because soon weather will
be too bad.... rain, snow, wind etc
and they have no place to live.

It is tragic that here in the
good ole USA,  Covid is making it
almost impossible for the homeless
to find shelter from the elements
or care for the infirm and ill.

This should not be happening  here in a
country.  We are not a poor nation or
a third world nation...  but our
government has forsaken us.  (IMHO) ...

Hopefully the future will be
brighter ....  and change is
right around the corner...

Peace to all
love Sandy

Here I am again.  I said I was going to "goof off" today and I really tried to do that.  But jobs get jumping out and hollering "DO ME NOW!"  So I did a couple and then the rest of them got really miffed at being ignored for so long and they just cried and hollered and pestered me until I did some more and I never did get finished.  I told the rest of them to clam up and go back to their hiding place for the next time and I guess they got scared because I tossed so much stuff in the trash.  So they're lying in wait for the next time.

My car is at the garage waiting for attention tomorrow.  It has to be inspected and I know at least two things that need fixing.  And I told him it's also time for an oil change.  I have lots to keep me busy around here.

I understand how all of you feel about being cooped up.  I walk my doggie every day and more and more people are coming out and standing 6 feet away for a little chat.  I'm sure glad we're not in a hurry because I enjoy the chats too.

I'm off to see how many zzzzzs are hanging around my bed.  I really hope it's loaded down.  I need to get a good night's sleep.  And speaking of that....I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Lloyd, I didn't offer much help because I was having trouble getting in here & also my computer was acting up and Google wouldn't open. Shut it down a while & all's well again.

Phyllis, I can only imagine the nightmares those parents must have, not knowing how long their children suffered in the water, what if they were still alive and suffering??? My heart goes out to them.

It has been a very long day with no nap and I am worn out. Sweet dreams and God Bless. Shirley

Good morning everyone...

Going to be a nice day in the neighbourhood, yesterday it rained that hard it was bouncing off the roads. Think the clouds wrung themselves out for the time being.

Today is to get to the grocery store for a sale on butter..would like to stock  for Christmas baking. Will pick up red and green peppers to do another batch of pickles and get them ready. If timing is right we will meet up with friends.

Phyllis, I can't imagine what the Mom is going through. Saw a photo on the internet and hoped that the youngster is ok..

Jane, on the bright side..those are jobs you don't have to do later. You do deserve a goof off day though..

Lloyd, hope you can find some zzs to catch up on your sleep.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, did not make it here yesterday, slept about  10 hours and had to rush to get ready for the day and Yvette getting here. On Tuesday my older son brought me a bag full of tomatoes, Yesterday I washed  them all and put the most  firm ones aside to eat and blanched the rest. Her and I had a good system going to peel and cut them. We do work good  together. Had her get my big slow cooker out and making sauce out of them. Turned it on low before going to bed and woke to the aroma. All I have to do now is make meatballs for it.  Have the cover off now so it will simmer down more.
I was really worn out last night and did not sleep more than a couple of hours. After standing so much you can inagine how my back felt. Before she left she massaged my back with the Hempvana and it started feeling better. That stuff really is amazing how fast it relieves pain.  I think I might be able to check email today. My daughter and I had a short visit on Skype yesterday. She and I were both yawning and needed a nap.
We had light  rain all day yesterday and when I pulled up the shades this morning saw that we still have the light rain, soaking right into the earth.

Better get a move on and get the meatballs made. I wan t to try and get the sauce into containers  to put in the freezer before Yvetter leaves today. I would not be able to get the crock lifted out and washed. Another time I get mad at myself because I can no longer do that.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe,

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I really had a good night's sleep last night.  I went to bed around 10:30, woke up once shortly before 4 and then slept until Mickie jumped down at 5 minutes before 7.  I think that might be my best sleep in more than a year!  Let's hope it becomes a habit.

AMY, I'll take a "goof off" day when you do!

Today is carrot soup day.  I want one more good batch to get me through the winter.  Then I'm concentrating on tomatoes.  I need some for the vegetable soup and some to make spaghetti sauce.  I think Frankie eats more of both of those than I do.  Sometimes, when she stops to pick up Cooper after work and she looks tired, I'll aske her if she had supper.  She usually hasn't and on those days, she usually goes home with a jar of veggie soup or a jar of spaghetti sauce and whatever pasta I have left in the box.

GLORIA, I never thought of cooking down the tomatoes in the crock pot.  Thanks for the idea!

Well, I hear the boinger and that means it's time for our breakfast and then a walk and then the carrot soup. So I wish you all a good day.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share with your friends in the Soda Shoppe.

They keep teasing us with cooler weather on the way but it won't be today.  It was in the upper 70's when I got up at 5:30 and is supposed to go to 95 and "feel like" 105 today.  I don't think this summer is going to ever end.

They found the little girl's body yesterday but still are searching for the little boy.  No hope that he is still alive.  I think that is the last I'll say about it.  It is too upseting along with everything else that is going on.

David will pick up groceries today.  I hope he feels like it.  He was not feeling up to par yesterday and it worries me.  He rarely ever mentions not feeling well.

I must get some breakfast.  Take care, All.

Phyllis, I do hope they find his body soon so there is closure. As a parent I think I would be looking at every child for the rest of my life, to see if it could possibly be the one I lost. Please do let us know if the body or wishful thinking, he is found alive. We are supposed to get a cold front move down to take us out of the 90s for a few days, but summer is not over.

Jane, I have not seen a single sign for home grown tomatoes for sale YET this year. Hope to go to the Farmer's Market on Sat. Parking is awful so depends on how hot it is. I send my sons off with food when I get a chance, nice to feed family, make them happy, isn't it?

Gloria, I'm sure you will appreciate the meatballs & sauce this winter. I haven't used my big crock pot for a long time but do love the aroma to wake up to. Got out the little OLD pressure cooker to steam a pot of potatoes for potato salad. I've been on a hunger for it & put in several hard boiled eggs as well as fresh celery, onions & enough pickle relish to almost make a meal out of it. The brisket from Sam's was too dry, so will cover the rest with BBQ sauce. I have never been able to fix brisket like my sister & sister-in-law, even using their recipes. After so many failures I declared it was not for me to make but to enjoy. What I bought at Sam's was pre-cooked.

Lloyd, I have 2 different weather stations bookmarked on my computer and they never agree, only the radar can't be wrong! We had fog this morning but already steamy. Hope that cool front gets here quick. I still hope to make a trip to MO but will wait until the trees start turning. I guess I will have to make a reservation to stay at my favorite campground, so their site says. But I will call before leaving the house & hope it works, maybe they don't keep a host at the gate anymore. I don't think it is very far from you so maybe you & Nancy can drive over to visit, we an safely sit around the picnic table and won't have to wear a mask! I stay at a Corp of Engineer campground called Long Shoal between Clinton & Warsaw, right on highway #7. Don't have to drive all around those lake roads to find. I don't plan anything very far ahead, all depends on weather!

Amy, I picked up 5 pounds of butter yesterday for the freezer. I cook with butter a lot & since this is corn on the cob season, use a lot. Have you noticed beef shortage in your area? The meat department in most stores around here pushing more pork than beef. I see plenty of cattle on the Flint Hills and in the feed lots of western Kansas, not sure why the high prices & shortage. Someone told me that bacon is no longer cured like we think, goes in & out in one day. Used to love driving through Tennessee & Kentucky in the fall, could smell the hams being smoked. Different world today but probably 10 years since we made that drive.

Better get busy, haven't had breakfast yet & lots to do. Shirley :walkwhistle:

I've got 8 pints of Carrot Soup in the canner and another pint+ in the fridge to eat.  As soon as they're ready to come off the heat I'm taking a shower.  It's only 77 here but I think it's about 250 in my kitchen even with the fans on!

The guy called that my car is done so my son will take me to pick it up after he closes the store.

Keep on keeping on!

Mercy yes , it is hot. Just finished the pickles and 17 pints to add to Kyles stash....he really likes this pickle and that is the 5th and last one I am doing this year. Came home with 25 lbs of plum/Roma tomatoes and will deal with them tomorrow.

Shirley, no shortage of meat but lots of shortages with canning /pickling supplies. I happen to luck out this morning and picked up 2 containers of Wipes for the neighbour but not easy to find them either.Butter was on sale for 2.97 instead of near 6.00.  No idea of how this all will end.

Jane, I am so ready for a goof off day.....but since I had too many things to do I had fun on a phone call.

HE said in a language that was hard to understand. I am calling from the technical company
Me...You are going to tickle me?? That is what he sounded to say...Kyle was right beside me. Gosh where are you going to tickle me???

HE No MOM, I am calling from the technical company to fix your computer....

First of all I didn't give birth to him and second...you interrupted my pickling....

The conversation went on with me asking where he is Minnesota was the answer.. Hmmm

Carried on the conversation with turn your computer on....I think you all know the drill from these crooks....and I was giving him the gears right back .....till he hung up on me???

Do you think he is on his way to tickle me?  :2funny:

Love the sunflowers, Lloyd & Nancy.  I'm surprised the birds aren't already checking them out. I had some two different years and the birds destroyed the ones like that before I could even get a photo. Somewhere I have photos of the others, they were different colors! You are looking great, Nancy!

Amy, my butter was on sale for 2 pounds for $5..... usually I get it on sale for $2. a pound but everything is higher right now.  I've had those  "Hello, Grandma".. phone calls, you'd think the dumb kids would think of something new. When Cas was alive he strung along one kid for quite a while, being sympathetic and "let me know where to send money".... until..... I just tell them (any human on the line), to "get an honest job" & hang up. My friend actually got caught with one that wanted her to buy gift cards & they would call back. Have no idea why she would fall for it, but her bank took care of it (she bought the cards with her credit card), think it was only a few hundred but they caught her when in a rush & she wasn't thinking. I get angry at the charities that call for donations and just tell them all that "I don't donate by phone at all"... and hang up. For starters I won't press any button they suggest for any reason.

Been to the river & now to eat. Have some left over spaghetti so will put a handfull of shredded cheese on top & some bread & butter, had veggies, potato salad & brisket for lunch. I am disappointed in the brisket, even with BBQ sauce it was dry. Fair warning, pre cooked from Sam's but expect all the other stores sell the same thing.

Wish we had your rain/storm, Amy. The river bank needs a cleaning out & the hill going down is bone dry.

I'm all in by my shoestrings tonight.  So I'm going to close out just in case I go to sleep.  I missed my nap today!

Frankie dropped off Cooper this morning. The garage called that my car was ready. My son and his wife went out and picked it up and then visited a while.  My sister called and we talked over an hour.  I think she's really lonely after her loss.  Then Frankie picked up Cooper and now I'm all in but my shoestrings.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one.

Good night and sweet dreams.

A super good afternoon to EVERYFRIEND 💐

I am not logged in as I am sitting in my car at Grandson Matt's Tennis Match playoffs.  Right now he is not playing so I will sit here until his match starts.

We got up this morning to find the contract that we have been waiting for days for to arrive.  Shock of all shocks🤪 No one will ever believe the fiasco this has all been....the two brokers had to get together and two more agents on their side were assigned to our offer and finally it happened.  We had pretty much said we were done with them, but after looking at everything else available we felt this place is the best for us, so onward and upward😘😘 Because of Covid, no one was allowed in to see this home until a signed contract was in hand, so tomorrow our agent will and view the home for us on FaceTime and we can actually see anything we want to look at close.  Of course there are wonderful pictures on the web site and in addition we owned this exact floor plan 16 years ago so we are very familiar with it.
My childhood friend owns a place very near to this home and she has offered for us to stay at her home when we go down to see it next week.  They winter down there and are in Wyoming now and not using it.  This way we will not have to stay at my Dads place as we are a bit concerned about staying in close contact with them due to the virus.  We will see him as much as possible of course.  I have to admit I am getting super excited now about this new event in our lives.

Michele had chemo yesterday and today she said she feels like a Mack truck took her, out, but it is way better than before when she could not function the few following days after.  She is thankful for this and so are we😘

I did not get this posted earlier as I was not online.  We got home to find a call telling that one of my male cousins passed away this afternoon...by the time I called other family members, including my dad, and got some dinner fixed I just got back to this and I am shot....so will post and get back to the later posts today later.

Mark just called and he is 100 miles from home....it is dark and he is so tired, but he will be there soon.....he said the Grape Vine was awful with all the glare from other vehicles and so many trucks to deal with.
EDIT: got the cart before the horse.....
Mark flew out of Ontario CA to Sacramento this morning....he picked up a rental truck and drove to a storage place to pick up their worldly possessions and then headed South for their new home....

Sweet dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

Good morning everyone..

Sitting here listening to the geese honk . in the still of the morning their sound echoes across the lake.

Will tackle  either the tomatoes or the beef canning today.

This is a long weekend here and the highways will be crazy, good place to stay off of.

Shirley, I used to just say no thank you but they don't accept that so now.....like Cas I have fun with them. I will keep them on the line  or just lay the phone down and let them jabber on.

Jane, you had a busy day yesterday. Nice to have your wheels back even if you don't need to go anywhere.

Jenny, Happy to read your deal went through and it is one you want. Chemo is hard on a person, no matter which way  one takes it. Michelle is a trooper and bouncing back the next day is good. Condolences to you and your family on you cousin passing.

Phyllis , I hope they have now found the boy....rough times ahead for the family.

Gloria, I bet your home smelled so good with the sauce cooking  all night. Nice that you and Yvette work together, you get things done faster that way. we always say more hands ,light work. If everyone pitches in they all can rest.

Joy, hope all is well  in your neck of the woods..

Better get going here

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone. After a few cooler days we are going into the high 80's today, not wanted. Oh well we take what we get, right? My spaghetti sauce came out yummy. We both had some yesterday and Yvette said how much better it is than what is bought in jars. She never had any made from scratch. I have 12 meals worth of it in the freezer. My back is letting me know I was on my feet too long.

JANE  I no longer have a pan big enough to get all those tomatoes in and the only item I have is my big slow cooker. Just about to the top of it. I did take the cover off of it in the morning so it would cook down and thicken. My younger son always makes his spaghetti sauce in his slow cooker but this is the first time I have done it that way. Easy, do not have to keep checking that it is not sticking to the pan.

PHYLLIS  sad about those children. Hope your David is OK today. No matter how old our kids get we still worry about them.

SHIRLEY  I am lookig forward to having the mid 70's for a high and then it keeps dropping and we have to put a jacket on. I never cooked a brisket. Don't think I ever saw them in the markets here.

AMY  wow  that was some phone call. He was going  to tickle you while you turned on the PC and stole  all your information. A new scam starting up?

LLOYD  wow those are tall and big sunflowers. Nancy must be proud of those. She is looking great in the picture.

AMY  as soon as I hear thunder I shut off the computer and the TV.
When I get a call now I let the machine get it, surprising now many hang ups I get.If I know the number I pick it up.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyriend!  I slept until almost 7 this morning with only one wake up during the night!  It sure feels good!  It was 64º when I woke up and it's only up to 66 now.  We're heading for a high of 80.  I can take more days like this.  And I think there are more coming!

JENNY, I'm happy that things are working out for you and I'm especially happy for Michele.  As AMY said, she's a real trooper and she doesn't let the situation get her down.  Sorry about your Cousin.

GLORIA, I think the spaghetti sauce is next on my agenda.  I'm not looking forward to preparing all those tomatoes but I'm sure looking forward to eating the sauce.

AMY, I can hear the geese on the pond when I'm out with the dogs but the thing I'm really loving is when we're out walking and I can hear the high school band practicing.  The school is just one road over from me and if the breeze is blowing my way I can hear them practicing for the football games.  It's kind of neat!

The boinger just went off so I better go feed Mickie....also me.  Then my day begins. I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with you friends in the Soda Shoppe!

It is forecast to be another hot day but then we will be getting some of what Jane up in Penn. is getting.  I can hardly wait.  Cool, dry weather.  I may have forgotten how it feels.

They found the little boy's body yesterday.  I won't say that now the family can find closure because I don't think you ever find closure from something like this.

Amy, we've had difficulty getting meat here for some time now.  I ordered cooked baby back ribs (pork) with bourbon sauce from the grocery yesterday and they called me that they didn't have what I wanted.  When I said I would take a substitute as long as it was cooked they sent me some with a different kind of sauce.  Some sort of beer based sauce.  At least, it is ribs and I might like the sauce even better.  We'll find out.  I was pleased to get any kind of meat because it is hard to get right now.  And, I'm still having touble getting in-store baked bread.  I just can't tolerate commercial bread so I always buy the fresh baked and it is nearly always in low supply.  It's been much too hot to bake bread here at home.

It is a long weekend here and already the traffic is streaming.  The officials are pleading with people to stay out of crowds but we'll see if they listen or just go on their stubborn, selfish way.  The big universities had to close back down and send most of the students back home.....UNC, NCState, etc.  I'm not sure about Duke.  Some of the smaller colleges are still trying to make it go.  My county, Wake County, still has very high virus rates but the percentage seems to be flattening.  We'll see what happens after the Labor Day weekend.

Take care, All.

First of all, Jenny, sorry about your cousin and I do mean that. My cousins have "disappeared" from my life so fast the last few years my heart melts when I think of them. Even though we had not seen a lot of them over the years, pieces of history have faded and gone. I am thrilled you are getting the new place and sounds like will be near your father. All the best for the rest of the journey. Big plus is you will be nearer to little Jonah to come visit?

Phyllis, my mouth is watering thinking of your ribs..... yum. I am finding bread has a different texture so wondering what "they" are substituting in what I usually buy. For the family of the children (not just parents) I do hope finding his body will give them some peace.

Our weather guessers keep pushing the cool down ahead... next week instead of this week end.  :tissue:  :tissue:  :tissue:   Wishing every friend a rainbow today. Hugs... Shirley

It's been a busy day here, too but not with canning.  I've been running around doing errands and hanging on the phone trying to find more jars.  The only one's I found were half-pints and 4 oz ones.  I really NEED pints.  But it looks like I'm going to be out of luck.  I called every store in this county and some in the next one that carry jars and no one has them.  One guy told me his supplier won't fill his orders unless he's willing to take 4 times as many as he usually gets.  He said he tried to bargain for 2 times as many and they wouldn't do it.

I was also looking for paint chips to bring home to get some idea for the kitchen.  Do you know that the paint sellers all have 2,322,408 different swatches in their stores?  And are you aware that 1,188,103 of them are some form of "off-white".  I'm just about ready to give up!  I got tired just looking at them.  And the ones I brought home are not at all what I want.  I don't know if it's the lighting in the stores or just my bad eyes....or maybe a combination of both!  Anyway, I've almost decided not to paint.

I bought tomatoes today and I'll be canning them in quart jars for soup.  When it's time to make the veggie soup, I don't know what I'll do because a pint is just about enough for a meal and that's the size I like to give Frankie.  I mentioned to the one guy on the phone that the jar scarcity is just as bad as the TP one was at the beginning of all this.  He said, "It's probably worse because there's no alternative for the jars."  He was right on!

I think I'll play Scarlett O'Hara and "think about all this tomorrow".  I'm too tired to think about it any more today!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy. healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, 54 now and it feels so good. The humidity was way down yesterday and it felt great. Today will be the same. As long as the temperature does not  get into the 80's  will be happy. Will be nice to get outside every day.

JANE  while Yvette ane I were getting the tomatoes blanched and peeled I was remembering the bushels of tomatoes I canned all alone. Now I needed her help with about half a bushel. She was surprised at the different taste  compared with what she buys in jars. Cheer up, just think of the flavor in the middle of a snow storm and all that work will be worth it.

LLOYD  that siding man was crazy to think you would want to use siding instead of that beautiful brick on your home.

PHYLLIS  cooler weather with no AC running and windows open feel wonderful at last here the last couple of days. I have been wondering how many new cases of the virus will show up after this week end. Stupid people think they will never get the virus and will get it and spread it. I hace aeezer fu ll of chicken right now but nothing else, no pork or beef. Of course I have meatballs and Italian sausage in my spaghetti sauce.

SHIRLEY  I eat very little bread lately. Read the labels and there is so many different preservatives in it now it can sit there a month and still not get moldy. Some marke ts here still make their Italian loves that you have to cut yourself and gets stale fast.

AMY do you pickle your beets?

JANE  looks like you bet ter start asking the people you gave jars to to start returning them of the do not get anything more.

ROLEY-PETER  that is an enjoyable video. Must be nice to travel along in a boat like that and meet people from all over. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone...

Love the cooler mornings 39° here at the moment.

A day of trying to get caught up on chores that didn't get dome while canning today. Laundry ,can go on the line as I don't think we are in for more rain.

Jane, we have no jars here, I found some in a little town south of us but they too are used up. My friend's daughter tried in her big city and no they are all sold out. She then phone a town her hubby was working  in and they had some so he is picking them up for me. Anything pertaining to canning is in short supply here. I was so pleased to be able to get the last pressure canner and as you know have put it to good use. I would definitely can more meat along with soups.

Gloria, the plum tomatoes that I peeled yesterday were easy to do......sometimes they can be a stinker to do but the skins came off these ok......some I did have to give them another little bath but not many. Yes, I pickle beets and we both decided that the pints were not big enough. Kyle really loves beets pickles and in two days a pint will be gone.

Peter, thank you for the video.....my way to travel. Will enough the trip with a cuppa tea later.

Phyllis, I am glad they found the little boy. Now you have me wanting ribs and I do know we have some in the freezer to cook. today may be the day!

Joy, good morning if you peek in..

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Today when I got up the temp was 54º and it's only supposed to get to 78!  My kind of day!

Today is a cleaning day for me, too!  I dropped a glass and broke it all over the kitchen floor and after I swept up all the pieces with a dust pan and brush, I got out the sweeper and went over the area and under things with the vacuum.  Then I decided to just let it sit and use it today just in case there's more glass and also because the rest of the house needs it.

AMY, I always do my beets in a quart jar but I leave space to put hard boiled eggs in to pickle them.  Pickled eggs are one of my favorite foods and they're so easy to do.

The boinger just went so I better get on the ball!  Lots to do today!  I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Another day is disappearing on me.
managed to get laundry all done. The dogs bedding did get a bit of rain on but nothing to worry about. Couldn't stand the kitchen floor with all the canning pickling dibs and dabs on it so now it is clean. Ready for the next go which will be beets.

Jane, wish we were closer ,my friend daughter did find jars for me. Never can I remember a shortage of jars and pickling supplies.

Lloyd, that is quite a job to do! No wonder you're tired. Nice now it will work as it should for you and Nancy.

Better go tidy up the kitchen...again..

A super good afternoon to EVERYFRIEND 💐

We are packing up to head to Arizona tomorrow.  We did not plan to go until Tuesday, but with the holiday Monday and a storm that is coming to Colorado on Tuesday with the word "snow" in it, we thought it best to just get moving.  Also, my dad is not sounding that well, so I want to get there ASAP to see him.

LLOYD, sounds like you made a good choice to just stay at home.  I loved seeing the picture of Nancy with her sunflowers....wow, those things look like trees they are so tall!

GLORIA, the spaghetti sauce you and Yvette made sounds so good.  I know you will sure enjoy that later in the winter.

We just broke another record temperature here again today...101* This will go down as the longest streak of temperatures in the 90's ever.  There are breaking high temperatures all over the SW this weekend.   Today the high in Palm Desert was 122*   YIKES....

People are asking for canning containers all over this area as well, so it seems to be nation wide.  Many are commenting that the tomatoes are just not ripening as fast this year and now, as I said before there are récord low temps due this coming Monday night into Tuesday....cRaZy cRaZy weather🤪🤪

PHYLLIS, we had a few shortages of some meat here in the past but now it seems pretty much everything is back in stock....also bread, as you said, but that is back now too.

So sorry to read that your computer failed on you, BUBBLE.  I do hope it will not be too long before you are up and running again.

I hope the day is going well for all of you.

Jenny

Mine has been alright but I am sure finished out side today.

Jenny ,

Are you and Bob planning on living
in Sun City Az permanently or
is this a place to escape to during
the Winter?

I noticed that the temperatures
are very high there today...

Is this going to be just a winter
retreat ?

Well, it was a beautiful day here today.  I actually had to put on a sweatshirt when I took Mickie out the first time and I kept it on until after we walked following breakfast.  The rest of the day was perfect for just a tee shirt.

I got the tomatoes ready for the vegetable soup today and instead of canning them I put them in yogurt containers and put them in the freezer.  I sure home there are jars by the time the rest of my tomatoes get ripe!  They are sure slow ripening this year.  My son says it's because we had such a dry summer but was out there watering them every nite that we didn't have rain and my water bill proves it.  I suppose he's right though and the dry weather did have something to do with not ripening as fast.

I'll need jars for the veggie soup, too.  Cathy brought me one more today.  I have them all searching their cupboards for jars.

JENNY, it sounds to me like your house might be an escape from the now and cold.  But I don't think you'd leave the area totally because of your lovely family being there.  So I'm guessing it's an escape from the cold Colorado Winters.  I hope you find your Dad in good health.  You are so lucky to have him so long!

PHYLLIS, enjoy the nice weather for now.  We still have Indian Summer to go through and I've seen some pretty hot weather during those days.  I've also seen some really gorgeous days of Indian Summer.

AMY, I don't think I've ever seen such a shortage of jars either.  I think I've been looking for the for about a month now with no luck!  My biggest bonanza was the ones I got from my DIL.  And I've given everyone the word, "If I gave you something in jar, and you're not using the jar, PLEASE let me have it back!  I got a few that way!

Lots of people missing today!  Must be out enjoying the nice weather!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Yes, SANDY and JANE, the
condo purchase in Arizona is a winter retreat, not a permanent move at this time 😘  With any luck at all it will give me some extra time with my Dad as well.  He definitely is going down hill and I just hope we have some precious time together.  If all goes well we should be moved in by the end of October.

Good morning everyone.

Foggy here this morning with a temp of 37° F at the moment with a high of 67° F

Today is a day of rest..other than cooking meals and I should bake some cookies. Nary a cookie to dip in a glass of milk here!

Jenny, being closer to your Dad will make you feel a lot better. You may just be the medicine he needs. Safe travels for you and Bob.

Jane, forgot to tell you. One pumpkin/squash is getting THAT big it is splitting its skin!! Think I will pick that one and see how it is. Lots in the garden, some a butter yellow and others are still a bit green.

Gloria, I too love this weather..soon we will be putting on the odd fire just to take the chill out of the house. Love the smell of the first fire.

Callie and Joy hope you both are well.

Roley, once again thank you for the "stroll" Hope you and the Mrs are keeping well in this trying time.

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

I'm up and attem this morning.  Slept better again last night.  I only woke up once around 4 a.m. and went right back to sleep.  The temp was 54º when I got up.  It's up to 57 right now and heading for a high of just 80 degrees.

I have a load of laundry in the washer.  I decided today was the day to change the bed since Frankie is coming over later to give Cooper a bath and while she's at it, she's giving Mickie one too.  Seemed like a good day to wash the sheets.

That's the first thing for today.  I'm hoping to watch the church service from my church on my computer later and then I'm going to try to cook a decent meal.  Frankie said she'd probably be here around 4:30 or so and I'm hoping she'll stay for supper.

That's all that's planned.  I'll deal with whatever crops up as it crops up.  I'm sure I'll have a few more papers to shred and some straightening up to do.  There's always straightening up.  I wonder who comes in here and makes these messes?

I hope you all have a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends here in the Soda Shoppe.  We miss you when you're not around!

Good morning everyone. I did nothing yesterday and I think today will be the same. Even with the beautiful cooler temperature I just could not get the energy to go out and enjoy it. I know I did too much this past week and being on my feet too long but I could not let all those tomatoes go to waste. Yvette never did anything like that so it was all new to her. With Labor day Monday she has the day off and boy I miss her on the weekends so Monday will be torture. About all I did yesterday was come here in the morning and then lay on the couch watching the tube or dozing all day. I think today will be a repeat of it. I even cut my daughter off on Skype yesterday, never did that before.

PETER  once I post this I will go for your walk. Flat ground will be all I could do right now with a lot of sitting on my rollator to rest a bit.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

It is a windy & hot Sunday....you would not believe how the trees are whipping around and can almost see the moisture pulling out of the ground. BUT we are to get much cooler next week so all weather guessers are saying!

Want to thank you for the links, Peter, I did watch both and thoroughly enjoyed each!

Okay, thought for the day. Remember that I believe in Pollyanna, that we must find something good in every situation. FINALLY found a positive with this virus. When wearing masks nobody sees the wrinkles!!!

On that great thought I am off to take a nap, been to church, breakfast in the park with 7 of the family, added a couple chlorine tabs to the pool floater & gonna find those zzzzzzzzs Jane looks for. Have a Super Sunday.  Safe driving, Jenny.

Hi, all!  Well, I did three Churches on-line this morning.  Baptist (almost); United Methodist and Presbyterian.  Enjoyed all, but preferred the Presby sermon this time.
Yesterday watched the "so-called Kentucky Derby" which is usually my favorite sporting event.  But with no spectators with outrageous hats, and noise from the crowd, it was very boring.  None of the horses I picked finished well. Ho Hum!
Amy, do you ever pickle Okra?  I know okra is predominantly a Southern thing, so maybe you don't have it there, or care for it.  I love pickled okra, also fried okra and okra gumbo.
I'm loving hearing about the cooler temps in some of your areas.  Bet it's gonna be a long while before they get into Texas.
Glad some of you are celebrating LaborDay with family meal together! Hope all those travelling the highways this weekend will be safe.

Tomereader, I am not sure if it is here but will look next time I am in a grocery store. Is it good? What can you compare it to in taste?

Shirley,  :2funny:  that does work. Also I told a cashier when people are giving her a hard time about products ,stick your tongue out at them. Masks are good for cover ups.

For a restful day, I am tired. Did get the cookies made and that was it. Tomorrow may bring more energy to tackle the gardens out front and bag up tree limbs for the dump.

Today was an absolutely GORGEOUS day!  No matter when I went out it was comfortable, breezy and beautiful!  More PLEASE!

Frankie did come and give both doggies baths and we walked them together.  She stayed for supper.  We had pork chops, green beans and taters.  Cookies for dessert (not homemade - Girls Scout ones from the freezer.  We went out and checked for tomatoes together.  She found 3 I would have missed.  I told her that's her permanent job now.  It pays well....free tomatoes to take home!  She agreed!

Mostly, I did odd jobs today.  And they made me tired!  My plan is to go to bed early and see what tomorrow brings.  I already know one thing it's bringing.  We've had a drive-in here called THE FENCE for a lot of years (I used to go there on high school dates) and it's been our family job to help them open by gathering there for my birthday in April.  We didn't do that this year because they weren't open.  They are now so Cathy, her husband Craig and I are going there for a meal tomorrow!  I'm excited because I just told someone that I guess I wasn't going to get there this year!

I'm about ready to call it a day and spend the rest of the evening "goofing off".  I think I deserve it!  Well, even if I don't that's what I'm gonna do!

AMY, almost forgot to tell you daughter Christy who lives in Maryland has crook neck pumpkins starting to ripen.  She says one is just about ready to go and 3 more are following.  So I won't have to buy any this year.  She's coming up on the weekend closest to Frankie's birthday 9/19 and she's bringing me one!  And she said if Cindy needs us to send one, she'll do it.  So I guess we're good for pumpkins!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Woke to rain and I think it will continue most of the day here.
Warmer this morning with a temp of 60°. No working outside
 unless it dried up .

Heard fireworks go off last in the distance but none close enough to scare Babe..hope tonight is the same. Thunder earlier this morning put her on the run.

Today will be a catch up day on chores that are waiting patiently waiting to get done. Just may be their lucky day to get done.....maybe :)

Jane, my neighbours a,family and friends are going to be blessed with this harvest too! Enjoy your day out with Cathy and Craig.

Better get ready to meet the day..

Well, this has been quite a morning!  I had no trouble finding my way to S&F and I could read anything I wanted to but I couldn't post!  It turned out, I had to redo my password before I could post and here I am.

And while all this was going on, my smoke alarms decided to to holler at me and tell me they had detected smoke and I needed to evacuate.  Since nothing was turned on except a few lights, the water in the shower and the computer, and I didn't smell any smoke, I dragged a stool over and turned one of the off.  The rest followed.  But I wasn't finished with this.  They did it 4 more times before they decide to shut up.  I'm going to call the guy who installed them, later and ask him to explain.  If that had happened in the middle of the night, it would have scared the (you know what) out of me!

Now I'm afraid to turn anything on!

Mickie and I had our walk and I didn't see anyone out staring at my house when we returned.  And they haven't gone off for a while so maybe we're ok for now.

I think I'll go try to unclog my ears.  Have a great day Everyfriend!

Jane, I was here earlier & didn't leave a message so don't know if I would have needed to sign in but sure did this time!  Good thing I remembered my password because Bubble is still missing I guess & she was the one that bailed me out last time. Does your smoke alarms have battery back up, maybe they are telling you to replace?  Mine aren't connected to power, just battery, & they only beep when needing to be replaced. First time they needed to be replaced after Cas died I found the one by the kitchen back door & one in hall to bedrooms, but kept hearing one all night & day but couldn't tell where the sound was until in the basement and discovered one right under the hall one in the furnace area! Had a couple days of that battery dying before I found the detector, thought I was hearing things!

This LABOR Day has worn me out. Decided I had to take on those spiders that love to make webs all over the outside of houses along the river. Oh, MY! Looked like Halloween gone amuck. I use the Hoover Spirit & after all done, take the crevice piece off, spray spider killer down the hose & leave it outside until I'm sure spiders are all dead, take the bag out & put in the dumpster without bringing into the house. I do not like spiders. I kept seeing wasps or mud daubers or yellow jackets, no idea what they are but give them plenty of respect... they were searching the cluster of webs for live spiders, I think.... & got one in the sweeper, so am giving it plenty of time to expire. On top of that I noticed a big wasp nest, not mud dauber type, see lots of them, anyway, grabbed the wasp spray to make sure nothing alive in it before taking the long sweeper arm to knock it down. OOPS... wasps started falling out of it like water, had no idea they all nested together like that! I kept spraying at the nest & the ones on the ground but decided I'd better boogie into the house because some were flying around & I figured not too happy with my intrusion.  I fixed myself a Coke & ate a Twinkie, not my usual drink with a Twinkie but kind of shook up & also tired. Maybe a nap... move over, Jane, I need some zzzzzzzzzzzzzs.

I feel buggy but don't want to take a shower until later, after I clean the pool. Last night I discovered the wind had dumped so many of the locust leaves off the tree next door that the basket in the skimmer was totally full so water couldn't go through & fill the lines, but pump was still running because I couldn't pull the basket out without turning the pump off. Oh, the joys of a pool! NOT!  Anyway, because the wind was still blowing I left the pump off & have not turned it on today because the trees are doing the fastest jitterbug you ever saw. Not a swing & sway but absolutely bouncing! Don't want to have to replace that pump. I am looking forward to having the cover put on for the winter, but can't do that until late Oct or early Nov... before the first hard freeze. Then I get the winter off! Such is life in Kansas!

Sure wish you girls had been around when I was giving bushel baskets full of jars away. I think I still have 2 cartons minus 2 or 3, of the 1976 Ball quarts that have the Liberty Bell on them. I made what my mother called "chow-chow" from a recipe I got from a neighbor. She had given me a small jar of it & memories flooded back of exactly like Mother used to make. It was a year we had a garden full of green tomatoes the neighbors were fighting over when I made them an offer of "pick all you want" at the end of the season. One neighbor put a couple old doors on saw horses in her basement & picked the ones starting to ripen & said they kept until Christmas, fully ripe as they ate. The others wanted the green to fry or can, that is why the neighbor thought to share her chow chow with me, to show me why she wanted green tomatoes. I had to buy peppers, celery & so much stuff, besides the canning jars... and after doing what she said to can them, chickened out & we only used what I had put in the frig & what I gave my brother & sister. If they ate it, I never knew!

Anyway, I emptied  all the jars back into the garden & it got tilled under. I saved those jars. End of my canning & last year of a garden since we moved that year. I used to save all the Miracle Whip jars & some of the neighbors wanted them, not sure if for canning or what. Then when we went to move I gave away so much it was sad, just didn't want to move anything extra. We had an acre of ground & Cas had an Allis Chalmer mower & tiller that he loved, the garden got bigger every year. No place for even one tomato plant at this house.

No, can't fill that pool in without cracking out the bottom (mold) and with concrete covering all the ground around the pool, up to foundation of house, it would be extremely hot with no cold water to tame it down. That water stays nice & cool all summer because of the sand & river bed so near. When we bought the house it had a cover like a dome of green fiberglass the original owners had put up for winter, heater for the water & kept it running all winter with big pots of geraniums every few feet since the steam from water kept them gorgeous all season. The owners had a house in AZ for the winter so their friend across the street had a key to the house to swim every day & keep an eye on things. Pool service took care of pool & property managers took care of house & maintenance. The neighbor told me about this.

Anyway, we were always doing our own work so kept it up & now I'm losing interest, getting too old. All about making choices, isn't it? These days you can't hire anyone to do any work around the house or in the house... not at $20. an hour, anyway. I insist on paying my kids more than that when they do anything for me, tell them "they are the ones doing & I appreciate, won't let them know if I need help if they won't let me pay." I do have a gr-son & his girlfriend that are still in college (he's back for his Master's) & they like the $20 an hour because I always give a bonus for speedy work <smile>.

And that's my tale for today. Work-work-work on this Labor Day. Lunch time & that nap, then back out to check on those wasps & spider webs. Want to feed the fish early, am anxious for the cool weather so I can take the weed whip down & clean off those monster weeds, I see so many different kinds, along with sunflowers & other blooming stuff... and lots of monarch butterflies winging through. That little fox was so hungry it came to eat as I fed the fish. I talked quietly to it & hope is won't be so shy. They really are small critters (I'm used to big dogs, German Shepherds & now the youngest son's Great Danes). Anyway, the woods & critters are my excuse for staying here. Shirley

Hello Everyfriend!  Dinner at the Fence was great!  They have picnic tables outside and it's right on the bank of the Susquehanna River.  There was a nice breeze and the river was sparkling.  The company was the best and the food was good.

SHIRLEY, these smoke detectors are new and they just put them in around March of this year.  They don't have batteries but they do have a button where you can turn them off.  I had the one closest to the kitchen go off once but there was smoke.  I forgot about the pan on the stove.  But that one stopped when the ceiling fans took over.  This was ALL of them at once and for no obvious reason.  And they don't just beep like the old ones did.  They SCREEEEEEEEECH!  Even a hearing-impaired person would hear them!

I didn't call Andy today because it was a holiday and they did stop.  But I'm calling him tomorrow and find out what to do if it happens again.  There didn't seem to be a reason.  There was no smoke and the only things running were a couple of ceiling lights and the shower.  Even the coffee pot was off.  And the house is still standing.

I'm just about finished for the day!  I hope you all had a good one and that tomorrow is just as good or even better!  Sleep peacefully and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, could not get in yesterday. Even signing in would not work. Did not accept my password but this morning I signed in and it was acepted.  Wonder what is going on now.
I think my body has now had enough rest after being on my feet so much last week. I sure didn't do much but sleep over the long week end. Then around 2:30 during the very early hours this morning I was awakened with flashing lights. The rescue  ambulance was here. I really hate to see that here especially at night.

That is all my news so now I think I will have breakfast and then get into the shower.

Have a  good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone..

No rain, at least not yet. We are taking Babe to the vet to get her needles and her allergies dealt with this morning. This is a one hour drive away with nice scenery on the way.

Shirley, you can make a bundle if you had all those jars now. You just can't find any anywhere here in town. I just got lucky with my friends daughter finding them  for me.

Jane the steam from the shower may have set the alarms off. Sounds like the perfect picnic you had..

Gloria, wondered where you were. Happy to see you got in today. I think all is fixed now with the site.

Lloyd, Joy and Callie are now missing.

Better get ready, will put a harness on Babe so she doesn't slip her collar.

Enjoy your day everyone, stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was 58º when I got up this morning!  And the high is only supposed to be in the high 70s.

AMY, the fan was on in the bathroom and the shower has never set them off before, even when I forgot the fan. Have a safe trip to the Vet. today and enjoy the scenery on the way!

I have nothing planned today except for a few phone calls and maybe a quick trip to Davy's later on.  Frankie is off today and she usually stops by for a visit on her day off.

The boinger is going for Mickie's breakfast so I'll wish you all a good day.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when we don't "see" you every day!

We had a wonderful couple of days with lower temps. and lower humidity but now the temps. are going up again and the humidity is back.  Another tropical storm, or two, forming in the Atlantic and headed this way.  Business as usual, I guess.

I'm trying to find a place close by to get the oil changed on my car.  The place that was so conveniennt for me and that I went to for many years folded and moved many miles away to the next town.  I wish things wouldn't change.

Household laundry today so must get my breakfast and get busy.

Good Morning,

Quiet weekend since family was scattered hither and yon.   Have been out and about this morning - taking care of errands before the "blue norther" (according to weather gurus) blows in.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a "raw day with rain and record setting wind chills in the 30's".

If I weren't already "hunkered down" 99 99/100% of the time, I'd be looking forward to a day of doing so.

Thank goodness for e-books, Solitaire games on Tablet and various writing projects to work on.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Put out a hook & catch me if I fly by, Callie!  It is comfortable cool today. I got busy & cut down the cane stalks. Birds planted it a few years ago & it grows monster tall. I tried killing it off, as well as the yucca plant it grows in (at the corner of driveway & sidewalk to the front door), but no luck getting rid of it. Filled up the empty dumpster & another large barrel. Wore me out. Thought about taking the weed whip down to the river to clean off weeds growing so fast, but sanity showed up and I stopped to eat & wait for the mowers to arrive. I'm getting sleepy now, full tummy & good work out for an old lady. Love the cooler temps so will smile in my sleep. No rain on the radar but wind blowing like crazy & hazy out. Take care. Shirley

Supposed to be pouring rain tomorrow so I'll :hello:  as you go over, Shirley.  ;D

Miss Emily's Dad is heading for KC tomorrow - to be her very last "required" adjustment in the Clinic - #200.  Mom was going, too but one of the doggies is sick and they decided someone needed to stay home with him.

Emily will stay a couple more weeks to wind things up and will then move home to begin an internship (they call it "Preceptor") with a chiropractor in Midwest City for the rest of the trimester. This chiropractor specializes in pre-natal and pediatric chiro. and Emily is very interested in these fields.
Graduation in December!!!!   :cheer:  :woohoo:

I just got back in after locking gates when the mowers left. Burrrr... wind makes that 52°  feel downright chilly after the 100° yesterday! Mother Nature is slipping gears this year!

Special hugs for Emily, tell her I had an "adjustment" right before Andy was born & do think it was the main reason he survived. No sonogram back then but think the adjustment helped loosen the cord around his neck a bit. Touch & go for more than a week. I'm sure she will be a blessing to every patient that comes her way.

Need a nap, should do more laundry but nothing that can't wait.  :-\   Loving this weather!!!

It's been a very strange day!  I had no real plans but things kept cropping up and I dealt with them.  I finished a lot of things that have be hollering for attention but not much that was on my list.  Tomorrow I'll have to attack the list.

CALLIE, it sounds like Miss Emily is just making her mark!  She knew what she wanted and she's getting it done.  My congratulations and best wishes to her.  I know she'll make it...and she'll make her mark, too!

LLOYD, keep trying!  We miss you when you're not here!

I hope JOY is missing because she's spending the holiday weekend with her family.  Maybe she'll be back tomorrow.

I'm off to Dreamland!  I plan to sleep well and get up refreshed because part of what I have to do tomorrow involves outside errands and they tend to wear me out.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

I am back! Computer is repaired and running smoothly. It was the motherboard that died, probably from the dust accumulating in too much humidity. We had between 70 to 80% humidity the last two months.
I really felt how addicted I was, when I couldn't get here all these days!

Health-wise. I still feel weak, but hope that when the weather will freshen up I'll get more energy. These 30+C temperatures are wearing me out.

I hope you did not miss me  ;) and thanks Amy for advising I  would be missing.

Bubble you were missed...and thankful you are now back. Happy to see your computer was fixed and you are on the mend. Take things slow and don't try to do everything. It can wait till you have all your strength and energy back..

Good morning everyone.  Hooray got right in this morning so the day is starting right. Nothing new around here, just the same old boring life living here. I don't think I could ever get used to this being isolated like we all are in here. Next week on Tuesday we get out flu shots here. They will open the community room and we will be told a time for us to go down for  the shot. Only one at a time in the elevator-by order of the witch-unless you want to use the stairs. I can just see the line waiting for the slow elevaror.
Yesterday was food shopping day and Yvette did a good job with my list, got everything on it. Today is laundry day.

PHYLLIS  there has been several service stations in this town that have closed. I think now there is only one place to get gas for your car.

BUBBLE  great seeing you back again. I sure know what it is like when a computer acts up. We all missed you.

Have a good day and sray safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  YAY and HOORAY!  BUBBLE IS BACK!  It's no good hoping we don't miss you.  We always miss you when you're gone!

I slept pretty well last night and I'm ready to do the errands and pay the bills.  Then I'll be all tuckered out...and so will my bank account!

Cooper will be over today so I'll wait to go do the errands until he gets here and then Mickie won't feel so lonely!

Today, my twins turn 60!  It's so hard to believe!  It seems like only yesterday they were babes in arms!  The years have flown by!  Then, tomorrow my "Texan-turned-Okie" turns 61.  Lots of celebrations!  Back in the old days, I used to bake 3 birthday cakes.  I felt that each child deserved his/her favorite on that special day!

The boinger is about to go off so I better say "So Long" for now.  I hope you all have a lovely day.  Make it your own in every way.  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We love you and miss you!

Good morning, Jane and all.

Jane, I am still around.  I thought I had wrote a message yesterday, but couldn't find it. But, I know I was in here.  ??

But, thanks for missing me !!!!

Just really have had nothing interesting to talk about.  I have a hard time trying to think of different things to talk about. I don't have a very interesting life.

It is a little cloudy this morning. Have not heard any weather report yet.  I was up early as I wanted to look up something on the computer and, as usual, got carried away, So, I really need to get some breakfast.  Nothing exciting planned for today. But, I am sure a nap will come along at some point during the day.

Have a good one !!

Aw, Jane, a special "Happy Birthdays" to all 3 kids. I can imagine the chaos around your house all those years ago, what a joy they could share the excitement! My youngest baby was born in May of 1963. Hard to believe they got so old & my head still thinks I'm younger than that and should still be able to move mountains. Goodness, where did the time go?

Bubble, great to see you back. I have not had a "regular" computer (only laptops) for so many years I can't even remember what the last one was. I'm sending all kinds of sympathy for your extreme heat & humidity. Today I woke up to 47° with spotty rain all over the state but not at my house right now, I am feeling like the world is okay again. At least until I go to the store & have to don that mask! Not quite light but can see the trees are not moving so another big plus if the wind holds off. I am so excited with cooler temps I can't get me in gear to fix my breakfast!

For Pete's sake!!! Kept hearing a roar like mowing equipment so opened the door and it is! The city crew is already on the job mowing the hill behind the houses to the river. I am concerned for their safety since it can be very slick on the hill, especially if we had any rain overnight, and too dark to see if anything (like a gopher hole) could flip their mowers. Instead of using the big mowers like they used to drive, they have 3 or 4 of the smaller types that race along. Not much grass out there because of no rain but expect they want to keep the weeds down so they can keep using the smaller equipment. All the years Cas was alive he mowed the hill, and most other owners along the river did as well. One year the weeds got very tall behind the houses that didn't mow and became a fire hazard for all, so that was when the city took over. Actually, we pay higher property tax to live along the river so we pay for the service in the end.

Better get a move on. Gloria, keep thinking about your elevator situation and that is a real problem, how to get a lot of people down in case of fire. Guess in case of fire nobody would worry about the 6' distance, right?  I'm so jealous of your Yvette but happy you have her company every (almost) day. Who ever thought of that plan came up with a brilliant idea, too bad the rest of the country has not heard about it. I was dwelling on how the states could work up a plan to have younger people "earn" points for such a service later in life. I think we are handing out too much "free" money now so nobody is willing to earn or work. Enough thinking, time to get a move on. A little lighter now & mowers have moved on.

Wishing all a Wonderful Wednesday (thanks to Callie).... ! Good morning, Joy! I thought I saw a post from you somewhere, hummmmm. I don't do anything exciting but manage to talk a lot. hahaha...

Good morning.  Dark and dreary here with rain on the way.  That is really a "broken record" for NC weather this year.  The only change is it is a little cooler and I welcome that.

No plans for today.  There are some household chores I should do but can't seem to work up much enthusiasm about doing them.

Take care...stay well, everyone.

I decided to go to the bank and the post office before Cooper came and since it was cool enough, I put Mickie in the car and she went with me.  Then I had a brainstorm on the way.  The post office is a block and a half from where Frankie lives so I texted her and said I'd pick up Cooper if that suited her.  It did and I did.  We came home and did a few things and relaxed a bit and the I went by myself to finish the errands.  It took me almost 2 hours and I was beat when I got home.

Now I'm gonna relax a bit and then cook something for supper.  I haven't decided what yet.

JOY, I'm glad you stopped by.  Doesn't matter what you say.  We just like to "see" you.

Hi, PHYLLIS, SHIRLEY, LLOYD and whoever I missed.  Thanks for birthday greetings for the kids, SHIRLEY and you're right, it was pretty hectic when they were growing up....especially on their birthday weekend.  And since Cathy celebrated her birthday all alone in March, she got a little gift on their birthday.  And then, just so I wasn't playing favorites, they all got a little gift on her birthday!

Now we also have two grandkids with birthdays in September.  And Cindy who isn't one of the twins went out and married a guy whose birthday is the same day as hers.  So we have a total of 6 birthdays in about a two week period in September.

Gotta go get something done around here.  Lots of stuff begging!  I wonder why it can't just do itself or wait patiently!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Turned out to be a rainy damp day here. Kyle just put a fire on to chase away the chills. We met up with the kids after shopping at Costco, even found hand wipes there!!
Then we high tailed it home, stopping at Dollarama to pick up socks for my friend. We just got home and in they drove..with their 3 +1 dog . After they left the neighbour went and picked up the generator that was in for repairs for us.
Putting my feet up and doing a lot of nothing now.

Jane, happy birthday to your "young'uns" my how time flies.
You sure did have your hands full!

Good morning everyone..

Misty morning here with a 52° F temp. Cooking up chicken  for the dogs is on order for today. May get the beets pulled and cooked later on.  Soon we will be putting the gardens to bed (pun intended) for the winter. After everything is pulled and the area cleaned up the 2 trugs will go in..making a total of 4 in that area. Gardening will be so much easier next year.

Phyllis, I really enjoy the cooler weather. One can  work about and not feel so tired. Sleeping is better too.

Shirley have you tried a mixture of Dawn dish soap and vinegar on the plants you want to get rid of? Not harmful to the critters or cats but takes care of unwanted plants.

Jane, I have to ask....did the kids all like the same kind of cake or did each have a special one?

Better get a move on here..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better last night than I have in ages and I really feel rested.  Don't know if it's the cooler temps or the hard work that's tiring me out. Whatever it is, I'm happy with it.  Right now, it's 70 and heading for a high of 82.  But it's supposed to start raining around noon and last into the night!

AMY, the cakes were all different!  Cindy and Philip liked the same cake but different icing and of course, the decorations had to be different.  Christy and Cathy liked the same cake but at different times of the year.  And it was the same with the icing.  They were different and the decorations on all the girls cakes had to match their interests.  To tell you the truth, it was fun trying to please them!

Just as I sat down here, the boinger went off for Mickie's breakfast and I want to get her fed and walked before the guy comes to put my bookcases together.  So....

I wish you all a great day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe. We love you and we miss you when we don't "see" you!

Good morning, Amy and all who follow.

It is a very foggy morning here, and a little chilly.  Just wanted to make an appearance before I get myself some breakfast,  I just might go back to bed if the weather remains so dreary.  Nothing planned so far, so I just might do that.

I will try to get back later.  Have a good day and stay safe.

I never heard of Dan dishwashing soap, Amy, but will Google to see if like Dawn & copied your remedy to my Word (Work) Pad so I don't forget. Thanks!

Joy, you didn't mention doing anything over the holiday... my family did nothing as a group except we went to the park after church on Sunday, with enough McDonald's to feed the army. Only 3 of the greats but they loved the picnic & getting to play on the new equipment. I was surprised they were allowed to play on equipment since no way it was "sanitized". Maybe the sun is supposed to do that?  Not many others around & Mom & Dad kept the kids sanitized. I did nothing but chase spiders on the back of the house on Labor Day. Yuck!

Jane, you are such a good mother & the kids realize how lucky they were & now is payback time. To me the best pay back is their time spent with me, right?  My kids fav cake was German Chocolate from scratch, with that cooked coconut icing. That was the choice after they got older, when they were in grade school it was cupcakes for the whole class & that was MY choice, a mix! I think the boys outgrew that early.

Phyllis, still one more cool day & temps go back up. I wasn't think when I cut down the cane & filled my dumpster & barrel... have a trash can full from the kitchen & no place to put it. I will go get the barrel with wheels in the pool area, it's about half full & after I clean leaves out of the pool will still have room for my kitchen bag. Trash has to go out tonight to the street & must have a locking lid to keep critters out overnight. The truck used to come by 6:00 am but new driver & never a regular time, just Friday morning! Back to the 80s for the week end but cooler at night, makes me smile!

I got up at 4:00 am with a cat wanting to go out. Think he realized it quit raining & can't take being cooped up all day & night. They went out a few times & sat under a little table to watch the rain, but were not used to the cold. Tiger kept checking the furnace vent she calls hers until I gave up & turned it on. Had a couple Eggos & back to bed, put iPhone on charge & let it download & do an update while I slept. Better go take care of the pool before eating again, seem to need a nap after eating!!!  :-[

Good morning everyone. Had some rain overnight, every thing is wet outside, only way I know. A gloomy morning here, no wonder I slept late  for a change. Nothing new around here. Same old thing day in and day out. Still no socializing here and it is like being in lock down in a prison.  Thank goodness I have Yvette here 5 days a week. Glad this state tries  taking care of the elderly population in this tiny state.

Have a good and safe day everyone.

Good day to EVERYFRIEND from the desert!  We have not had internet here where we are staying, so I have not been able to post.  I have checked in a few times quickly to see if all is well, but I was not logged in and could not post.  Bob helped me this morning and here I am.

First thing I have to say is it has been great seeing my dad.  Bless his heart, he is so feeble looking that it is heartbreaking, but he has been eating and being so much better when we are with him!  I bought a slice of Lemon Merange Pie and took it to him and he could not wait to eat it, and ate every bite!  It was a very nice large piece....really enough for two people!  He was really smacking his lips!  Sure made me smile.  We got dinner for all at Cracker Barrel and he ate all of his grilled trout and broccoli too, then Hs pie!  Diane was in shock!

Second bit of news is.....we pulled out of our offer for our place we wanted to buy, and I have to say that I am really heartbroken.  The place is better than we could have ever imagined.  It would have been perfect for us. There were many warning signs, but the last straw is the condo group is in a terrible financial place.  It took a bit of digging on our behalf to get a honest answer, but luckily we did find out in time.  The selling agent has been very unresponsive though out our entire dealings with him.  I feel bad for the lady who is selling.  He has been so unfair to her.

It has cooled down here and we actually have the doors open and are airing out this place this morning.....it feels wonderful.

The fires in California are just awful.....absolutely heartbreaking.

Denver had a bad winter storm pass through Monday night late lasting through yesterday.  Thank goodness it was not as bad as they projected, so the snow did not break as many tree branches as they expected but the low temperature pretty much killed everything off.  Sad for the people waiting to harvest their gardens😩😢

I must run.  I hope you all are doing well.

Jenny

I do believe the days/hours have wheels on them for they slide by fast!!! Managed to get the dogs chicken cooked and put into containers for meals for them. Made bread and not much else was done...other than talk with my neighbour over the fence for a bit :)

Jenny, I was so happy to hear your Dad is enjoying your company and delicious food that you took him. He has a good appetite and that too is a blessing. They say  when one door closes another opens and it is usually a better one..so while there you and Bob can scout around for that special door.

Jane, just so you know. I just came in from tucking all the crooked necks in..no I didn't kiss them good night but covered them up for the night. Weather lady said we may have frost tonight..no fire on in the house  but it wouldn't surprise me if Kyle puts one on in the morning..

Lloyd, you had better be around or we ladies will come a looking for you!! Say hello to Nancy for me please.

Going to put my feet up now.

I sure love having them here with us, Nancy and I both agree on that. just want to try not be to much bother to her. love all of them, and they all are willing to help and are a good help. the two year old one is easy to spoil. he is very smart for a two year old. and already has quite of a vocabulary. some time he will reach up and take you by one finger and lead you where he wants to go,and sometimes hold both hands straight up in the air ans say up; some times he will come ask to be picked up on your lap;we watch grisly Adams, and he will say find the bare or Ben. that is Adams bare's name.

Geese raising a ruckus last night and then crows hollering for food this morning. Have no idea of why the geese were restless.

Another overcast morning here and I was right Kyle did put a wee fire on. We are going in town for a few things then home to clean up/out the garden.

Roley, love the Dexters. So much like the Black Angus I had for a 4H calf.

Good morning everyone, it is a wonderful 62 and not to get out of the 60's today. Wonder if Yvette would like to go outside today, would be nice to get some fresh cool air.

JENNY  looks like seeing you perked your Dad up. Sorry the place you were thinking of buying did not work out. At least you did not get burned in the deal and found out in time.

LLOYD  you know we always look forword to your posts.

AMY  darn computers, seems like once they act up you spend $$ on them to get worked on and they always act up again. I am gla my grandson can work on mine when it messes up. (of course I do not make the mess ;)

JANE  I hope you slept good again last night, I sure did.

PETER  as usual I will check your
walks after I post this.

AMY  gee I wonder just why the geese are noisy, getting anxious to travel perhaps? They want to head north to colder climates of course. ;D ;D :2funny:

Roley, I loved the first video but turned off the 2nd one as soon as I realized (almost teared up with Frances). I know this is life, that my cats hunt critters and eat and the hawk that flies over my house would love to make one of the cats a meal.... don't be offended that I couldn't watch it, much as I respect farmers, I couldn't be one, all the animals would have to die of old age!

This has been a very busy day for me. I am declaring myself a saint for not killing a cat. Yes, Saint Shirley.... patron saint of cats.... Tom has been looking so thin lately and I've thought of any way to have him checked by a vet, but instead am letting him just live as long as he isn't in pain. He eats all the time, finishes up anything Tiger or Callie don't eat. BUT, he has not been good about using the litter boxes sitting all over the house. I caught him leaving a puddle a couple different times over the years, where he knew was not the right place because he would run if I yelled when caught him in action. This morning I caught him at the front door, wasn't sure if just sitting there so took off my shoe & tested the carpet... it was WET!

Since it is a 35 year old Oriental carpet that has been at the front door of the last 2 houses we owned, it has history. It fits the entrance perfectly and too expensive to toss... so I rolled it up (4'x6') & took out to the back yard, put on the grass upside down to wash the back side & then cleaned with carpet cleaner over & over, the front side. Let me tell you, a wet carpet weighs a ton to "flip" over and worse to try to hang over the pool fence to dry. Then I washed the pad under and scrubbed the black slate floor & whole entrance hall that extends to the kitchen one way & bedrooms the other. I am weary, anyone that knows me knows I've done everything possible for these cats since Cas died. (Yes, I know I'm whining...)

I've provided them with a larger RV so they can travel with me instead of going hungry, turned the house over to them & spend most of my time either feeding or cleaning litter boxes, this is the last straw.

Tom is a loving cat, hums (purrs) & rubs his head on my feet any time we are in the same room. But he is the one that throws up at the thought of going into the RV, not the ride but idea, threw up before I put the cage in the door & time before, threw up before I started the engine. Every trip I spend a lot of time cleaning up the floor or taking covers off the bed to "bag up & wash when we get home". I searched for a year to find the RV with a wooden door to the bedroom to close so the cats don't have to be in a cage when I must stop & open a door. I still feel bad that old LaurenKat got out a few years ago & was terrified of all the people in the campground. She was 18 years old, very old for a feral cat.

I'm sure she didn't live long but would not have this guilty feeling the rest of my life if she turned up missing here, at home. The truth is, I have to either be crazy or a saint, saint sounds better. End of tale......a nap should fix me up. I am worn down and Tom is at my feet without a care in the world! He has forgiven me for yelling at him.  :-[

Oh, Jane, my favorite all time meal!  If only we lived closer.

We will never forget 9/11/01 as long as we live.  I would give anything IF Americans would come forth and show how much they love their country the way they did on the day that horrendous catastrophe happened.  The patriotism was a sight to see....America Flags flying everywhere and Candles burning in windows.  🇺🇸🇺🇸 GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸🇺🇸

We enjoyed another wonderful day with my Dad.  He said over and over and showed us how much he enjoyed our visit.  He is so thin and tiny....he has no appetite at all and does not care to at, BUT he sure ate for us.  Diane could not believe her eyes.

We are heading back to Colorado tomorrow.  I would love to stay longer but we have to get home and get our blood work done for our yearly physicals soon.

AMY, I firmly believe your thought about one door closing then another one opens.  We had so many red flags on this possible purchase and it just was not meant to be😢😩

GLORIA, my Dad really perked up and it was so good to see him and be able to spend some quality time with him.

JANE, I would have been so happy to join you for that delicious meal you have prepared😘

I have a few more things to pack so best sight off for now.

Pleasant dreams to all.

I'm going to try to sleep now.  Cooper is spending the night here and he's not easy to sleep with.  I have a lot to do tomorrow so I hope I get some sleep tonight.  You would have all been welcome for dinner if you could have come.  it turned out delicious.  I did it in my electric fry pan and it was the perfect size.  I didn't have to keep checking on it....but I did anyway.  Now I have two containers of meat and broth for the veggie soup and leftover potatoes and carrots to eat tomorrow.

Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, a wonderful  54 now. Did not need the AC yesterday, just some nice fresh air coming in.
Nothing new here, same ole thing day in and day out. I am in a rut, a day away from here would be so welcome. If I could still drive and have a car I could at least go for a ride. Will not be long now before the trees are in their fall colors. That is when I like riding in the country.

JANE your roast beef made my mouth water, one of my favorite meals but I like mashed potatoes and lots of home made gravy to go with it. Of course with a salad and more veggies.

SHIRLEY  that will teach you not to adopt more feral cats. Then you would be lonesome without the cats to look after.

LLOYD  glad you have a granddaughter to keep you computer running good.

JENNY  it was great to see our flag in front of so many homes after 9/11 but now I notice even on the Fourth of July not many flags showing. Sad. Glad you have perked your Dad up while there.

AMY  beat you today!!

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy.

Good morning everyone..

Fog cutters will be out this morning, tis that thick! :2funny:
Yesterday was  a god one for getting a lot accomplished, garden. picked the beets and canned them and did 3 loads of laundry. Today we will take all the garbage away and pick up more lumber. Kyle has another idea on building a trug and is trying a new design out.

Gloria, yes you did and I would have loved to stay in bed longer but body clock said get up! Some of our trees are getting their fall colours. I think I love fall most of all, the temperature is livable.

Jenny, your visit was the best medicine for your Dad.I hope when the other door opens you find a place close to your Dad and can spend quality time with him.

Better git.......time seems to rush when I don't want it to.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was 54º when we got up this morning!  And it's only heading for a high of 73!  The temps are definitely changing!

I never sleep very well with Cooper in our bed!  He doesn't sleep like Annie did.  He's all over the place and when he moves, Mickie moves and then I move.  I'm sure glad he doesn't stay without Frankie very often!

We're just waiting for the boinger and then breakfast and two doggie walks.  Then my day takes off.  First the recycle center, then the grocery store for some specials, then home to peel and cut up tomatoes for salsa.  And, if my energy hold out, can the salsa.

I hope you all have a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  Me miss you when you're not here!

We've had nothing but rain so there isn't much to write about.  I'm here and doing OK.  I'm reading a lot and sleeping more than I would like but there isn't much else to do.

David got all of the food orders taken care of yesterday so we aren't going to go hungry for a few days.   I felt guilty last night because after getting and storing all of the food we had ordered I didn't feel well last night so he ended up opening a can of tomato soup and fixing that for our dinner.  He takes good care of me and I am grateful to have him here.

I hope everyone is safe and well.

Good morning everyone..

Rain here this morning , started at 2:39 am. I predict a nap tucked in somewhere today.

Meeting up with friends this morning then later on if it isn't raining too hard we will take the garbage away. After that maybe some sewing if the nap doesn't catch me first.

Lloyd, one of my favourite cake is Pineapple Upside Down cake. Warm from the oven with either whipping cream or vanilla ice cream on it.

Phyllis, I wish CA could have all this rain. We do need it here but not as bad as what they do. I did see where a family's well must have run dry as they were getting ready to punch in another well. Crops are not as good this year either. PEI farmers are going to hurt from lack of water/rain for their potato crop.

Gloria, you snuggled under your covers still??

Better get going..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning my friends!  We got up in the dark this morning to 56º!  I do believe Fall is on the way!  The high is only supposed to be 76 degrees!

I slept better last night without Cooper in my bed and without Mickie trying to avoid him as he shuffled about.  I've decided that I have enough tomatoes to make the salsa and that's on the agenda for today.  I've also decided that I'm going to pick all the little green tomatoes that won't have time to grow up and turn red.  I'll make them into green tomato jam.  And some of the bigger ones will become fried green tomatoes.  Can't let them go to waste so I'll send them to MY waist!

The boinger just went off and since it's supposed to rain sometime today, I'll go get us some breakfast so we can get a walk in before the rains come.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe! We miss you!

G'morning All.Back to our 'Armchair Walks' again.I hope Gloria, Amy, and Shirley, Jane S all  and others like this one, this is a walk into the 'OLD VILLAGE of PORTSLADE'(WHERE I LIVE), unfortunately, just out of shot of all the filming !, the oldest cottage dates from the 1400S, and would have been (in those days) thatched, not tiled as they are now, the village today is a mixture of 'ancient' and modern buildings and cost an 'Arm and a Leg' to buy !.

Good morning everyone, a nice 53 now and only into the low 70's later. Ahh nice breathable weather. Low humidity sure is great again.
Had a surprise yesterday, #1 son called ans asked if I wanted top go get an iPhone  and I jumped at it. I have been without a cell phone about a year now and with Cox when they are off even the landline is off and I do not feel comfortable with no way to get in touch with anyone. I always had a a flip phone so this will take some getting used to. I also have it on Tracfone. Big difference in their price and the others. Shirley is the one who talked about Tracfone  and that is what I used before with the flipphone.

AMY  I am with you about fall. Always been my favorite time of the year and I still like winter better than summer.  I am waiting now for my son to pick apples. I am longing for a taste of a just pick Mac, juicy and tart and crunchy, mmmmm.

LLOYD  we have some trees starting to turn here and I am hoping my #1 son remembers how much I love riding around and looking at the colors. Glad you have the help now, you and Nancy deserve a break.

PHYLLIS  wonderful how David takes care of you. I am so glad to yave Yvette here 5 days a week, she sure is spoiling me. Keeps telling me to gosit and I tell her I have to do something and move around to keep this old body moving.

AMY  no I am wide awake and been up almost 2 hours already. I am very slow typing and reading these days and of course I took time our for my 2 mugs of coffee. Will go make my breakfast oatmeal soon.

JANE  my son  who gave me all those tomatoes told me he has a lot of green ones to pick before a killing frost hits them. My Mom used to make a green tomato pickalilly and it was soo good.

PETER  wonderful, looks pretty modern in some places but I love seeing the old houses and the old churches. Thank you once again for the walk. Enjoyed it and seeing how green every thing is there.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Peter, I will take the walk as soon as I post... sounds like how I found Marlow 60-65 years ago, loved the thatched roof houses. Memories... thank you!

Gloria, when my neighbor gave me the pint of pickalilly my head recognized immediately it was the same recipe my mother had made when I was little. My mouth is watering.... I actually made it twice and threw away both times because I didn't trust my canning. We ate what I thought safely kept in the frig, and I would love to have it again. No way to cook little enough to eat fast enough without canning. If you don't still have your recipe for your son, I will dig through my box to see if I still have it, if you want. My son-in-law's mother & father lived for a few years about 50 miles from where I grew up, when I made a cheese cake he recognized the flavor immediately so I try to have it now & then when they are here, just to give him that memory. His parents are both dead. The cheese cake & piccalilli (oops, spell check changed it)... and 2  other recipes (chocolate cake with cup of boiling water mixed in right before putting in the oven, and that coleslaw... seemed to be darn near "international".

By the way, I still use Tracfone service & have since 1998. I loved the flip phones best but the kids thought I should advance to the cell that does everything, after Cas died.... Had an android first, Alcatel, never cared much for it so couple years later bought the iPhone, supposed to be more "user friendly".  NOT hardly. I can text when on the road/camped, but still don't like to leave it on all the time because it is dead when I need it!  I do keep it on when traveling & charge all night when camped. I just buy a year of time & minutes & have so many stacked up I could talk for a long time without running out! I have the time/text/data plan & generally find it for about $100. per year. Had to use lots of minutes because Cox was out so much, & I did gripe to Cox about "wasting my Tracfone minutes to call them (Cox)". It is nice to have & call one of my 3 every night when camping, they report to the others. I also have it set up to text all 3 at the same time... usually with a photo of where I am.

The house across the street is for sale, having Open House today & I'd like to have a look to get an idea when MINE goes on the market, about what to expect. Only thing similar is probably built within a few years of same. Houses are all totally different, built in mid '60s and do believe a lot better built than any time since. I'm going to stay here as long as possible, love the river & this is home for the cats.

Yes, ladies.  I have a TracFone.  My 4th one actually.  Initially had one that was a 2G, and they replaced it free for me, since everything went to3G.  I bought an Alcatel from them, which I didn't like either.  I got the Android, Samsung J7, which I have loved.  Only thing is battery needs charging at least twice a day. I can text, shop, make calls, all for about $100 a year.  I sure wouldn't like a phone that costs $40, $50 or more each Month.  Can't afford that.  I still have my hubby's old flip-phone which still has minutes on it.  He didn't make many calls on it.  Had he lived, he never would have managed to learn an Iphone or Android.

Hello My Good Friends!  Today was a very busy day but I mostly can't tell you what I was busy doing.  One thing led to another and a lot of stuff got done.  I cooked another batch of meat for veggie soup and it's in the fridge waiting to be cut up and frozen until ready.

I also started the salsa but I'm really disappointed in the tomatoes this year.  They look nice on the outside but they have a lot of fibre in them.  My son thinks the drought interfered with their ripening but I was out there every evening watering them and I know they got plenty of water because my water bill was up by $10. a month.  Doesn't sound like much of a saving to plant the tomatoes, does it? I'm going make it half and half with cans of tomatoes and home grown.  Maybe they won't notice!

I also packed up pork chops for the freezer and cooked 2 with baked sweet potatoes for supper.  I have supper ready for tomorrow too.

There's chicken in the crock pot for dog food that will be done tomorrow morning and ready to be ground up. Might have enough for some chicken salad too.

Cathy texted to see if I was home and then stopped over for a visit.  We talked or about an hour and a half about anything and everything!  We even settled the election.  We agreed on how it should go!  I don't talk politics with many people but she and I usually agree on most things.

Now, I'm heading for the haystack and some down time!  I'm ready!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, lovely weather day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

Woke to no rain!! Think it will be a good day to get some more outside work done. Yesterday I did manage to find the nap ,then the phone rang and woke me.

Jane, you had a busy day! Hope today will be a little easier for you. Tomatoes didn't  do all that great here either. First time we had blossom end rot. Some tomatoes were bigger than  my hand and we did get to eat some of it. Any one you talk to hear says the same thing about their garden but always say........better next year. Hope that is true.

This is the last day for pills for Babe,if her allergies persists I can start them back up again. Gave her a pill in bread and peanut butter.....spits it out. Tried a piece of chicken...spits it out. Next was a weiner...spits it out. Wrapped into a ball in a slice of cheese.......YAY...works for now. A challenge and a game all wrapping in early morning feedings.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Roley, you tippy toed in on me...oh I am going to enjoy this walk as I love to explore markets!! Thank you so much!

I got up around 6:30 to 63º with a high of only 73 predicted but it's supposed to be sunny.  Maybe the sun will coax some more of the tomatoes to ripen.

My plan for today is to finish all the stuff that got started yesterday and then to clean the fridge.  Frankie is off today and she's planning a visit so that will cause me to sit down some time during an otherwise busy day.

ROLEY, I'm looking forward to your new walk.  I love things that connect the US with England and I'm looking forward to seeing where the Liberty Bell came from.  I've seen the Liberty Bell on three different trips to Philadelphia....1 with my family and 2 with my Girl Scout troop.  In fact, when I took the Girl Scouts there, we stayed in a church that was just a "hop, skip and a jump" from the current location of the Liberty Bell.  A group of 4 girls aged about 13 reported each time they visited it.  I think they registered 14 visits.

Now it's time for the boinger and after breakfast, a walk and then GET BUSY, JANE!!!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe.  We miss you when you don't join us!

Okay, I've "sat me down" and watched both shows so time to get moving again!  Peter, I loved the street markets in Marlow on Thursdays. Never knew what you would find, someone told me they "were vendors from London and some might even have stolen merchandise!"  I bought enough Harris tweed to make myself a coat & my little girs a skirt and coat to match. Maybe that came from the street market in High Wycombe. I gave the coat to my mother when we got back from England, she loved that fabric & kept the coat for years. My little girl was wearing her coat & skirt the year we got back and I saved it until she had a little girl. I looked up Harris Tweed on Google & they still have the same pattern/fabric I bought nearly 65 years ago! Thanks for the memories. I did not see when that video was made, do they still have the open markets?

Amy, I was sure we were watching a brother & sister playing in the water and the brother was teasing his sister until she perked up & took a nip at him. Mama looked calm about their antics! They sure grow into huge animals, don't they?  Saw one fairly close as we entered Yallowstone Nat'l Park but thought since it was so close we would see them everywhere so did not bother to take a picture (back before digitals)... was the ONLY one we saw close enough the whole trip!  Loved the video, thanks!

SHIRLEY, whenever we went West with the Girl Scouts, I thought it was necessary for them to see Yellowstone.  We spent the best part of 3 days there and stayed 2 nights in cabins.  On one of the trips, one of the girls started way east of Yellowstone saying that she needed to see a bear close enough to take a picture.  And she repeated it whenever anyone mentioned Yellowstone or regularly after we got there.  We were on our way out on our last day there and she was almost in tears because we had not seen a bear.  Then our driver said, "I wonder why traffic is moving so slowly?  Now everyone is stopping!"  Then I saw what they were stopping for and I said, "Amy, get out your camera.  There's a bear begging at car windows!

So we all had pictures but it was sure hard to keep Amy inside the van!

Be still my heart, Jane! What a dream for that little girl! We didn't see bears but many warnings to watch for them. We had a Coleman camper & think stayed only 2 nights & the one full day. I kept hopping out of the camper to run & take photos. Actually, we stayed at a campground across from the Tetons (Jenny Lake) & Yellowstone all together trip. Wonderful sights. Poor Cas, he hated trips & being gone from home & especially camping, but since I went to Colorado without him, I think he knew I'd find a way to go. My inheritance when parents died pretty much paid for the Rialta, we crossed the country a few times in it before he decided he'd rather be home playing golf. I was earning enough with my paintings to pay expenses so we made it work, no more long trips without him, just CO & MO.

I had a very productive day today.  Got the meat ready and frozen in broth for the veggie soup, cooked chicken and chopped for dog food, and I have 14 small jars of homemade Salsa sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be labeled and put away.

Also, Frankie showed up just in time for supper and we had spaghetti with meatballs from last winter's stash for supper.  She stayed until about 8:30 and we had a great visit!

I hope I'm not making too much "stuff".  Cathy said she told her husband that I'm getting ready for the Apocalypse and he said, "Good! Then we know where to go when it gets here!"

Mickie also had her regular number of walks...2 long, 2 medium and 2 around the yard a couple times.

Someone mentioned pickalli/piccalilli today and I looked it up.  I think I'm going to try that with some of my green tomatoes.  I found a recipe that I think I'll like!

I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did mine!  I'm tired enough for 2 people and I hope that other one finds her own place to sleep because I'm heading for my bed and I don't feel like sharing it with anyone but Mickie.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

We are home from Arizona safe and sound.

The first day was going great and we were moving along great UNTIL WE WERE NOT.  There was a 2 1/2 hour back up on I 40.  By the time we sat through that we both we much too spent to make the drive on to Santa Fe, so spent the night in Albuquerque.  When we got ready to leave Bob could not get his iPhone to boot up.  He worked on it and worked on it and it would only show the Apple sight and that is it.  When we got home I came in and Smokey was so very happy to see us.  Brought in a few things then sat down in my recliner to get some kitty love and fell asleep for nearly 3 hours.  Guess I was tired huh?

Bob tried two different places today to see if he could get his phone up and running to no avail.  The Apple Store said the logic circuit board is fried!  GREAT! He is trying to get his old phone up and running, but it is not yet!

It is always good to be home, but I have to admit this whole ordeal over the home we hoped to buy falling through nearly did me in.  I would have been so happy with that place.....

We are watching the Broncos/Titians Game and I can hardly keep my eyes open.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny
