YOU ARE BACK, Bubble!!!!! Love the Proverbs & graphics. Cute frog & the mind whirls at the sight of the guy knitting. It is re-hab, therapy, or maybe his grandmother taught him?  Thanks for the new site.

Lloyd, another short night for me, too. Both cats were sitting by the bedroom door waiting for me to get up. They like the cooler nights and want to stay outside but every time I look they are sleeping in the pool area. They feel safe behind the pool fence. The fox can slip through the wrought iron fence around the yard, but the coyote can't get through, nothing but a cat or climbing animal can get into the pool area. Guess I will fix me an egg sandwich & go back to bed.

Good morning everyone..

Another one with a restless night..hope to have a good sleep tonight!
Last  night  while watching tv in my night clothes ,came a knock on the door!! Gosh did I scurry to get my housecoat on.....to find our neighbour  from the back line . He had brought over fresh pulled green onions and two items I had no clue about. He handed me a slip of paper with the name on..Crystal Apple cucumbers.......never hear of them before.

I did manage to get part of the garden cleaned and bring in 3 of the crooked neck pumpkin...can only carry one at time.

Today we are off to look at flooring.......not a fun job. Cool enough that we will take the dogs with us.

Bubble, thank you for the new start page. Proverbs prove a point. I knew a man that knitted.....he made beautiful sox for his daughter. He also did embroidery.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe please.

I'm up and attem!  I slept very well last night.  I was so tired when I went to bed there was nothing to do but sleep.  And that other person did find her own place to sleep because I had my SPACE!

Today, the only things on the agenda are to label an put away the salsa and order my meds at the drug store.  I'm going to see if Frankie can stop and pick them up for me.  She said she's coming out sometime today and it would save me a trip!

BUBBLE, nice to see you back!  I love the new place, too.  I did a double-take at the pic of the man knitting.  I've known lots of med who did women's work around the house but none that knitted!

I have a couple bills to pay and I'm going to start picking some of the green tomatoes.  I got up to 43º this morning and one of these days we'll have a frost.  I noticed some color on the tomato vines this morning so I'll bring in whatever I can today.

AMY, those crook neck pumpkins must be huge!  You're going to have to have a real "yard sale" if you have very many of them!  I think Christy is bringing me one from her garden this weekend.  That will be one of my chores for next week and I feel a pie coming on!

JENNY, I'm sorry your plans fell through and you had a rough trip home.  But isn't it nice to be home!  I think that old saying is right...."There's no place like home".

Guess I better get ready!  It's almost time for the boinger and I know Mickie will be ready for breakfast....I'm ready, too.

I hope you all have a great day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when you're not here!

Good morning every one. Wow a whole 45 this morning. No wonder I felt chilly when I got out of bed this morning. One  thing about this new AC I have it can run on fan only and I had it on that yesterday letting just fresh air in and circulating. Nice. Sure do not need it cooling now. We are now getting smokey  sky from the western fires. I know my daughter is getting it in Arizona.

SHIRLEY  I have a lot to learn about this new iPhone. Don't even know the name of it. I need to go online and learn about it. Will call my son later to find out the name so I know what to look for.  One thing Mike could not do Saturday was get the WiFi connected. Sent a SOS to his son-my PC guru and he came yesterday and in a minute he got the password in. He is the grandson I rely on for tech trouble. He is the dad of my little great grandson. He starts school the end of this week and he does not want to go to school. He will be in kindergarden all day. Seems like my 3 had half a day in that grade. My Mom never had a written recipe it was all in her brain. I need a recipe for everything.

TOMEREADER  I had an android phone a few years ago and could not understand it.

LLOYD  great you took Nancy out for dinner. So many restaurants around here have closed down because of the virus. They could not afford to change their restaurants and pay upkeep on them anymore.

JANE  boy you sure are a busy lady all the time. I sit too much I know but some days walking around with my rollator starts me back hurting too much.

PETER  wow what a place to go shopping. So many different thing for sale. Thank you.

AMY  gardens did not do good here either this year. Both of my sons had a bad crop and my daughter in Arizona didn't have a good crop either. Love the moose in the sprinkler. Mom liked lapping the water up.

JENNY  glad you made it home safe. That traffic back up would have really been horrible.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new page. Great graphics, love the man knitting. I had a BIL who knitted and did beautiful work. The Jewish Proverb is something many gossips should read and take to heart. Love all the proverbs. Thank you.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning.  A pretty sunny morning after some haze earlier.  The weatherman said the haze was from all the fires out west.  That is almost unbelievable that the haze is traveling all the way across the country.  I saw some pictures and can hardly imagine how difficult it must be to have all the smoke all the time.  Has to do something to your lungs to go on for so long.   Prayers for all those people.

I have another internet friend who lives in the northern part of Calif. and they have had their RV packed up ready to leave at a moments notice. She said they won't have to tell her twice to get out.  So far, they have been safe, but they can see the red sky all around them.

Must be so traumatic to have to live with that fear always in the back of your head.

Nothing new in my little part of the world.  I just wanted to make an appearance.  Need to get dressed and get on with the day.

Please have a good day and be safe.

Good Morning,

I've started some new eye drops because pressure is creeping toward the glaucoma stage.  Hope my eyes adjust to them because I'm surely not liking the effects right now.

Have I mentioned that #2 son and I began a "dinner date" every two weeks when dil gets her nails done after work?
It's always at my house but we alternate providing the meal.  Last time, he brought Chinese which we both like but dil doesn't.

Yesterday, #1 son came over for a couple of hours and did some "clean-up" with the pot garden and flower beds.
We talked about his coming over on the weeks that his brother doesn't.  Nothing definite but I'd like that.

Still working on photo album for #2 dil.  Hope eye drops don't make that a problem.

We're getting a thin layer of smoke from the fires in the west - including the ones in Colorado.  Not really affecting the air quality much but makes it hazy.  I've always heard that the eastern part of the USA was affected by the dust during the 1930's.  Makes me wonder how those east of New Mexico were affected when all that atomic testing was going on in the 1940's.

And that's what's going on in my little corner of the world.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

I'm off to the "Land of Nod".  It's been another one of those days.  My cleaning lady (granddaughter Frankie) came today and my house is spick and span once more.  She hits the corners and ledges that I usually miss.  She likes to clean so this is a win/win situation for both of us.

Something really strange just happened!  I got a really strange screen and some buttons at the bottom.  As I pressed the X on each of the buttons, something went away and after about 6 buttons, my post came back looking just as it had before all that started.  I've never had that happen before.

And now I'm off to dreamland....I hope!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..
Dark out there..all too soon it will be drk going to bed and dark getting up .

Our search for flooring yesterday was interesting to say the least. We did bring two samples home yet when put against the oak  we have in here it didn't fit in. So back to the drawing board.

Getting the oil changed in the van this morning then home to work around the house...toss up on whether it will inside or out.

Callie, that sounds like a wonderful "date" a win win for all of you.

Jane, there are lots still in the garden ,some that have just started to grow, doubt I will be able to ripen those but others are very close to ripening.

Joy, I have been watching  the devastation of the fire....how does one get over this?

Gloria, I don't mind this cooler weather...we do put a fire on in the morning but let it go out. Kyle calls it a 3 stick fire :)

Lloyd, smart to wear a mask. I am not fond of wearing them but it is for my protection and others. Here it is the young one that don't abide by the rules of staying apart. High school and university ones  that gather not wearing masks.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe please.

Good morning everyone, a nice 46 now and I like that. If it keeps on being these temperatures the witch will have to let the maintenance man turn the heat on. Got my flu shot yesterday and also a tetanus shot. Last time I had one of those was 30 years ago, thought it was about time for another one. First time the community room was open since April but only for the shots. After that I came back up here for a phone appointment with my doctor. That went great and better than going to the office. She  is going  to send someone here to do the vampire bit.  Last evening I looked out at the sky and the sun was starting to set and it was a big orange ball in the sky. That is how much smoke we have in the air.

JOY  we are having the smokey sky here, too. Last week on TV they showed  pictures of Los Angeles and of San Francisco and those looked like one would need more than a mask to breathe that air.

CALLIE  Well I see one son every Saturday morning and he always brings me some kind of treat. My other son I don't see that often but he is the one that takes me where I have to go. He will be going to pick apples and will bring me half a bushel to enjoy and make at least one pie with and an apple crisp and applesauce plus many to just eat and enjoy. We have not seen a blue sky for several days and even the sun barely penetrates the smoke here and I live on the northeast coast or about 35 miles from it.

LLOYD  yesterday on the news they were talking about the next state to us-Mass.-and those who do not wear their mask will be fined $50 for the first time and if they still do not wear one they will double the fine each time they are caught.

JANE  this morning I tried deleting some things off my desktop and they would not move.  then I went to refill my coffee and came back and tried deleting them again and the did go to the recycle bin. That had never happened before. Yvette does a pretty good job of cleaning in here but that ir really not in her jod description. She does go above what her job calls for. She does spoil me because she knows I cannot do the house work that is called for to live  in a clean apartment.

PETER  400 years for the Mayflowe leaving England? Wow we are still a lot younger country than you are. Just looking at the old building on the walks you post for us sure shows it.

AMY  just imagine if those fires were in the early summer what would happen to the gardens with no sun to help things grow. The last few days the only way we know the sun is up there is a slight brighter spot in the sky.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

Good Morning my dear friends!  It's starting to get light out there.  Yesterday, we had the same kind of day that other on this side of the country had and I suppose today will be the same.  The sun is there but it looks like it's behind a cloud.  This would be a good day for me to be out doing my errands.  Bright sun keeps me home.  The glare is too much. If I have to make an appointment, I try to make it between 10 and 3 then I know I won't be driving into the sun either coming or going.

I'm all set up to make a batch of green tomato jam today.  Yesterday I picked all the green tomatoes that I know won't have a chance to grow up.  Some of them will be jam before this day is over.

I'm also planning a batch of green tomato piccalilli before a frost comes and kills everything.  I know one thing for sure, if the green tomatoes pick off easily, they're never going to ripen and if I get them off, maybe the rest will.

Frankie wants some green tomatoes too but I forget what it is that she wants to make. And, of course, somewhere along the way, I'll have to have a batch of Fried Green Tomatoes!

GLORIA, yesterday it was so cold in the house that I turned off the A/C and turned on the heat so it would come on at 68º.  It came on around8 a.m. and took the chill out of the house and that's all it needed all day. Then last night, just as I was getting ready to head off to bed, it came on again.  This morning it's been on once since I'm up.  It's just enough to take the chill off.  Outside, it's only 41.  That's brrrrrr chilly!

I guess I better get on my horse and get moving.  It's almost time for the boinger.  And the day begins!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your good friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when you don't hang around!

⌐Good Morning everyone, I am just up getting to be Habit to sleep in, It says 63º and going 79º it is over cast saying partly sunny, but I think the whether guesser was right yesterday when he said was smoke from the fires from CA. Have a great day.

We haven't had as much haze here that I have noticed but we will be getting rain tomorrow and Friday from the remnants of Hurricane Sally.  I think I'll ask David if he wants to go to the grocery store today before the rain gets here and get just a few things to tide us over for a couple of days.

The cooler weather has been so nice.  Not cool enough yet to have the heat pump kick over to heat but at least the air conditioning isn't runnig.  I had the windows open for awhile yesterday and that was nice.

Take care, All.

I realize most of you are scattered out all over the country, but wanted to make a food recommendation.  I don't know if any of your stores have these: Nature's Bakery Fig Bars.  They come in several flavors, Raspberry, PeachApricot, just plain Fig, (also have a chocolate brownie - I don't recommend that one).  These bars are: dairy free, nut free, vegan, Kosher, no High Fructose Corn Syrup and plant based. That should cover anyone with allergies or dislikes.  They come in a box of 6 twin packs.  They are especially good with your morning coffee or cup o' tea; at night with a glass of cold milk, or just for a quick snack/dessert after lunch. The twin pack has 2 separate squares, so you don't have to eat the whole thing.  If you did, it is 200 calories.  Very little sodium, no cholesterol, only 5 grams of fat, not saturated, 3 grams of dietary fiber. Before my hubby passed, at work the snack machine stocked these, and they ran out as soon as the man loaded the machine.  Shortly, my grocery store (Kroger) started stocking them, at first only the fig, then the rest of their assorted flavors.  The price is "not bad", a little more than some things like this, but for all the things that are not in the bars, it's super.  They also put them on sale from time to time.
Hope you all can find them near you, and would enjoy!

Tome, one more question, my gr-daughter has a problem with soy... and I've discovered it is in everything, EVERYTHING! How about these bars? I've gone to cooking with real butter because all the things I used to cook with (Crisco, Blue Bonnet, etc...) now contains SOY! I will see if they are available at my Kroger/Dillons. Thanks for the tip.

I have a batch of green chili cooking, mouth should be watering by now but maybe made a mistake cooking in the large Circulon pot. I usually brown the meat in cast iron pot after frying a few slices of bacon for flavor, no bacon, no cast iron, no flavor. I saute' the onions & garlic in butter in another skillet & dump all together with green chilies, Ro-Tel, etc... So good over refried beans, enchiladas, etc.... it doesn't smell as good. Maybe I'd better check the recipe, haven't made it for quite a while & might have forgotten something important!

Phyll, been getting warnings about Sally on the iPad all day, watched a video of an 18 wheeler blow over with the winds. The coast people are sure getting hit hard this year. Wonder how Joan's son & family are doing with their place on the island. Bet that gr-son (Finlay) is so grown up we wouldn't recognize him.

Better check the pot. Much to do & not much time left to do it~~

Good day, EVERYFRIEND 💐

We were off this morning to the doc to get our blood drawn for our yearly physicals next week.  They drew about half the amount they used to and there was no urine sample taken.  We asked about it and they said that Medicare will no longer pay for it🤪  Probably why there was less blood drawn as well.  I do not even know why they are making us go in for our appointments as it seems many doctors are doing it over the telephone...which would be fine by me.  I would be happy as a lark if I never had to go to the doctor again😘

While we were out and about we decided to drive on down to the Colorado Capital area to see how things look now after all of the rioting and the protesters and so forth.  It was horrible to witness....chain link fencing around it and window boarded up and still a lot of graffiti. There are some Federal Buildings there in the same area and they looked the same as the capital did😩  We passed by several of the homeless encampments.....oh Lordy....the sadness of the whole mess is heartbreaking.  So much trash laying all along the roads.  Sadly way more illegal drug paraphernalia than you can imagine.  Everyday we hear they are trying to find a place to move these poor individuals where they will have bathrooms to use and showers.  Of course NO ONE wants them in their area!

Dr. Dave had to have Mohs surgery done on his head today for a melanoma they found in his scalp.  Michele is having her every other week Chemo also today.

Bob's iPhone was unfixable so he pulled out his old iPhone 4 and got it charged up and at least has a phone to use for now.  He wants to wait to buy a new one until the newest one comes out in a month or two....🤪🤪. I think this old one is going to drive him nuts, but he says he can deal with it😘

I am not sure if I mentioned it or not, but Sunday after we returned home Bob started having all these bites show up on his upper part of his body?  After much searching I came to the conclusion they are probably bed bug bites😡😡. He and I slept in different beds in the hotel room, so I am fine.  We thought that was the end of it as they were looking so much better last night, but sadly, he appeared to have some new ones this morning😡😢 We took very little into our motel room with us, so our actual bag of clothes were still in the car.  Tonight we will be on the look out for any hitchhikers that may have managed to come with us.  We accidentally left a pillow of ours on the bed, and that might have been a blessing in disguise!  I checked the LaQuinta where we stayed and they did not have any known bed bug issues.....but ???  I would like to think it might be spider bites but with the research I did on the internet they certainly look like bed bug bites 😩

We have been keeping a watch on Hurricane Sally as she hits the gulf coast.  We have many friends and relatives along the entire area😩
SHIRLEY, I saw yesterday that they had close the bridge heading out to Dauphin Island where Joan's son and family have been living during Covid.  Of course the landfall of Sally was in Gulf Shores, the permit home location for  Joan's Family 😩. I see pictures of Finlay every so often and he of course is a big kid now!  Nearly as big as his dad.  He is probably around 14 years old.

I hope you all have enjoyed your day.

Jenny

Hello Everyfriend!  This was another hazy day!  The sun was out but it was like there was a haze over it all day.  The high temp was only 76 and that's fine with me.  It was cold enough in the morning for a sweater.

JENNY, I hope you find the source of the bits and are able to get rid of it quickly.  That's no fun, especially after the hectic trip you had coming home. Your trip down town must have been depressing!  I'm kind of glad I don't live near any big cities.  We've had some protests here but nothing destructive.

I managed to get the green tomato jam done today and I ended up with 14 jars...12 canned and two in the fridge.  I did I in 4 oz jars so I can share it with others and see how they like it.  I still want to try the piccalilli but I think I'll wait until next week.  Frankie's birthday is coming up on Saturday and her mother and stepfather are comin up from Maryland for the weekend.  I'll need to get ready for them and then celebrate with her so I think I'll just wait as I'm sure the green tomatoes on the vines will wait.  I have some red ones to use up and I think I'll get stuff to make salads over the weekend.

Right now, my brain is a bit fuzzy.  It did way too much thinking for one day.  I'm going to take Mickie out and then head for the haystack.  Someone told me that's where they hid all the zzzzzs tonight.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy (bug free) tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

We are heading back into warmer weather for a few days. Today we are looking at flooring..again. I think we both are  getting discouraged at what is available in the lines we want. Lots of dark colours but we want a lighter one to go with our oak cupboards and baseboards.

Jenny,  poor Bob, hope he is feeling better. Those hitchhikers are not the souvenir one wants to bring home!!

Junee, nice to see you :)

Jane, you have been busy and it doesn't sound like you will be slowing down a bit.

Gloria, between water and fire they do go where they want and destroy so much  when doing it. Can't imagine trying to pick up the pieces and carrying on after this.

Better get ready..
Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Good morning.

I just stopped by to say Hello and to see if there was any news from Jean and Larry.  I just heard that Pensocola had been hit hard and they are not very far from there. So, I am sure they are feeling a lot of the storm.  Just hope they are safe and won't have a lot of damage.

Will check back later.

Good morning everyone, 56 now, warmer than yesterday when I shivered when I got up. I knew the heat here would not be on yet but turned the thermostat up and not heat. Thought the maintenance man might have turned it on since the witch has not been in for almost 2 weeks. She is not missed either. My phone appointment with my NP went good. She told me she would see about getting a vampire here for blood work. Got a call yesterday from a nurse telling me she would be here today between 8 and 10. This will be short because I have to get dressed now and be ready for her. Of all days to wake later. Hope she will be here before 10 I am already hungry and have that fast.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's almost time for the boinger and breakfast.  Then I have to get a shower, take Mickie for a walk and make a quick trip to Davy's (That's the Mennonite Store with the GREAT local produce and lots of other good stuff).  Cooper will be arriving around 10:30 while his Mommy goes to work.  Don't know what the rest of the day will bring.

Forgot to mention that I also did 3 loads of laundry yesterday and folded and put it away.

I hope you all have a great day!
Make it your own in every way! (don't share it with any bugs!)

And come on in to the Soda Shoppe to share it with your good friends. We miss you when you're not here!

I think I detected a SMILE from Down Under!  Was that our JUNEE?

Shirley, on the Nature's Bakery Bars and your question about "soy".  The ones I have on hand, Raspberry, do not have Soy.  Also, the Double Chocolate Brownie ones, which I'm not particularly fond of, do NOT have Soy.  They have dates, cocoa and whole grains, whole wheat flour.  I don't remember seeing Soy on any of the others I've bought, and I research this pretty well, as my BFF has allergies to almost everything, including Soy, and I check the boxes out, and she loves them, as it is something she CAN actually eat.  I didn't list the following, which they have: Whole Wheat Fig Bars, Gluten Free Fig Bars and Oatmeal Crumble Bars (I didn't like those), but to each his/her own!  If you do have a Kroger's they probably have these products.

Thanks, Tome, I will write down the name & have my gr-daughter check them out. She does a lot of her own cooking but always happy to find something to like that she can just enjoy!  She tested positive for the virus but only thing/symptom was blood clots in her legs. Was exposed at work & cleared to return, an Engineer for aircraft company, unmarried but looking <grin>. She is pushing 30, independent type & makes more money than a lot of the guys her age, so expect she scares them off.  Terrible age, especially for girls, I think.

We have a hazy sky, "filtered" sun, but feels hot to me. Mowers came this morning but I have nothing to show for my day. Need to get busy, daughter will be in town tomorrow and I think I have some things in a corner that need to go back into the RV that was in the same spot last time she was here. I started cleaning stuff out after getting back from CO, thinking it time to go smaller. Trouble with that thought is nothing smaller I want so may as well keep what I have, at least I know it's warts! I have an appointment in the morning to have the front tires balanced to see if that is cause for the "shimmy" at highway speeds. Had the tires balanced last year after buying the new front tires. Not sure what the warranty was on that job. Went to the place the tire guy suggested.  ::)

Hi, Lloyd, you slipped in & I wouldn't have noticed if I had not scrolled all the way to the bottom. I am sure that is how I've lost so many posts. I'm waiting to go to MO when the trees start changing colors, sure got the itch to get away. Hi to Nancy!

Hello Everyfriend! I'm ready to hit the hay!  I just got off the phone with my sister.  She's the one who just lost her husband and I think she's having a hard time adjusting.  She calls me about once a week and we talk for more than an hour.  I think it helps her and I like all the reminiscing.

It's been a long day and I'm ready to make my exit for the day.  I think I'll head for the barn and the haystack.  It was pretty comfortable there last night.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy day!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

Busy day of some very needed accomplishments🤪🤪.   No canning like is going on in other places but we sure can see well out of our windows😘. What a job it was, and I was just a bit of support for my honey!

I have been hungry for Chile, so today was the day to fix it and it sure tasted yummy.

BOB talked to his sister and they did not have any damage to their home or their sons homes in Panama City, but they did get a LOT of rain.  They were not sure about any of the rest of the family there. The bridge that was damaged near Pensacola sure is not going to be a easy fix. Thankfully we have heard for Jean in that area and she and Larry did not have any damage to their home either, but did get a lot of rain of course. Now we watch Teddy as he lookslike another scary storm😩

GLORIA, I do hope your time with the vampire went well.  Did you notice any difference in the amount of blood that was taken over times before?

JANE, I am happy your sis has you to talk and reminisce with as I am sure she is lonely.  I can only try to imagine how hard it must be after your spouse passes😩

SHIRLEY, best of luck to you tomorrow....you have had so many issues to deal with since you bout the new motorhome😩

I hope you all have a good night of rest.

Good morning everyone.  I just about got dressed and the bed made and the vampire was here, took 4  vials of blood. Guess the NP wants to check everything. She was good, hardly felt the needle. My veins are  great so hadly had to tighten the strap around my arm. Glad she got here early so I could have my breakfast and coffee. I sure fasted more than the 14 hours they wanted. 56 now and looking at the forecast it will not get out of the  60's today. With the smokey sky the sun cannot do much to warm it up. If it  gets much colder it will be time to get the geemagotchees out.

JENNY  I had been thinking of Joan's son and the house on the island. I remember when it was damaged in a storm years ago and how he had it rebuilt on stilts. I hope they were strong enough to escape Sally.

JANE  for one person you sure do a lot of laundry. Yvette does mine on Wednesday. Gets expensive here.  $1.75 for the washer and the same for the dryer. $3.50 a load. Yes it was nice to see Junee's name show up yesterday.

LLOYD  73 is about the best temperature, would live with that all year.

SHIRLEY  since I moved here I enjoyed looking out each morning and liked how the maples changed overnight. They all started getting red at the top and eash day the red was further down. This year the one near the exit to the par king lot is an orange color and all the others are still green. Must have been the weather this year. I miss the beautiful red on them.

JANE  last night I was in bed at 8:30 and woke at 4:30 this morning.

JENNY  it had been almost a year since I had the blood work and they usually take 1 or 2 this time was 3.

Looks like I am the first one here this morning.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone..

Woke to pink clouds in the sky. and a temp of 30° We must have had some frost also. I think all the garden will be cleaned up soon. no more tucking it in at night with the tarps.

Have a few chores that need to be done and others that can wait. We picked up 40 lbs of beets  10 lbs of carrots and 10 lbs of potatoes yesterday so beets will be pickled today and carrots and potatoes canned another day.

Jenny, windows are on the to do list here but after I finish canning etc. Right now there are too many wasps flying by and I don't want them in the house!

Gloria, 73 ° is perfect I too could live with that..

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Right now the temp is 61º and the high is only supposed to be 66 today.  I was already out in the yard with Mickie and while she poked around, I picked tomatoes.  I had two containers of red ones (abut 4 or so quarts canned).  I guess picking the little green ones that were not destined to grow up gave the others some growing room.  Now what do I do with those?  Maybe just can them in chunks?  Maybe make some gooood spaghetti sauce out of them?

GLORIA, the laundry I did yesterday was the first I've done in almost 3 weeks!  I don't think that's a lot for an old lady who lives alone!

Mickie and I are just waiting for the boinger and then the day begins.  I have to prepare for company.  I'm not sure if they're coming tonight or tomorrow morning.  I sent a text to my daughter but she hasn't answered it yet.

I'm glad to hear our friends in the hurricane area are all safe!  I don't think I'd want to live where that kind of thing occurred regularly! It must be nerve-wracking!

I guess I better get going or I wont be ready for company no matter when they come.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when we don't "see" you!

Good Morning everyone. we have good sunny sky today. wasn't asleep all the time took a while to get my mind
to clear and settle down. but the tattle tail on my breathing machine said 9.5 hours. I suspect I acutely got at least 7 good hours of rest. hope you all had a good rest also. I have truck tires to change and fix today. three of them for Shure. It is a duly wheeled truck. I was circling around the driveway and ran one off the rim and tore the side wall out of it in two places. the good thing I have several good used ones, so do not have to go buy any. see you all Later.

Boy!  The echoes are pounding around the walls in here today!  After I posted around 8 this morning there were a couple posts from LLOYD about 12 hours apart and that's it!  Everyone must be busy up the gazoo!

I had a very eventful evening.  After supper, I took Mickie and Cooper for separate walks....Mickie first.  When we got back, the smoke alarms were going off.  I went in and shut them off and took Cooper for his walk.  When we got back...same thing.  I shut them off again and 10 minutes later they're squealing again. This went on for over an hour and they went off 16 times while I was trying to figure out how to take the batteries out of them  I started unscrewing them all from the ceiling and when I got to the last one, I found out, they don't have batteries.  They're wired into the fuse box and all I needed to do was turn off the switch.  I left a message for the guy who installed them and maybe he can figure out what's going on.  They're really new so hopefully, still in warranty.

Now I'm going to bed and hopefully to sleep better again tonight.  Christy will be arriving from Maryland in the morning and her husband is coming in late afternoon.  I didn't get my cherry pie baked today so that's my plan for the morning....hopefully before my company arrives.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

A heavy frost is decorating the ground this morning. Birds have cleaned 3/4 of the berries on the Mountain Ash...next will be the flowering crab tree.

Yesterday was a busy one and I still have one more batch of beets to do...the last of the 40 lbs.

Today is finish and clean up the kitchen and put away the 36 jars that were done yesterday.

Jane, I hope the man can figure out why the alarms are going off..and shhhh them for you.

Better get ready to get to work..

Enjoy your day everyone.. stay safe..

Good brrr morning everyone, 41 and now that is cold. The heat has been turned on, thank goodness the maintenance man thinks more of us elderly in this building than the manager does. She has not been in the building in 2 weeks and it has been nice.

AMY  pink in the clouds? not red? You know what they say about red sky in the morning? I think we will be happy when the wind changes direction and we start seeing blue sky and white clouds again.

JANE  cannot beat the taste of spaghetti sauce made with fresh tomatoes or tomatoes you canned. Wow after 3 weeks I would have nothing clean left to wear. ;)

LLOYD  you sure get into messes without trying. Hope you were careful changing those tires.

AMY  no frost here, just cold and the heat is on and warming up in here. Will have to be getting winter clothes out soon if this keep up.

Have a good day everyone keep safe and warm.

Good Morning Everyfriend! It's time for breakfast in this house and I've been working hard ever since I got up.  It's down in the mid 40s overnight around here but tonight it's supposed to hit the high 30s.  You don't suppose winter is on the way, do you?

GLORIA, in that 3 week period, I did wash out some of my "unmentionables".  As for the other clothes, I haven't outgrown anything in some 25 years now and I needed decent working clothes so I'm pretty well supplied.  I sometimes look at something in a store or on a website that I like and I tell myself, "You don't need any more clothes".

The boinger has already gone off so I guess I better get on to breakfast, Mickie walks and finishing up around here for company.  Christy always texts me when she's leaving her driveway and I know I have about 2 and a half hours until she gets here.  She hasn't texted yet.

I hope you all have a great day!
Make it your own in every way!

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 💐💐

I did a software update on my iPhone and iPad and everything is different today.  I even had to re-log into here😩🤪

We are still really Smokey here again today.  We went out yesterday afternoon to try to take some things to donate and our eyes were really bothering us even after using eye drops over and over.  Just NOT good!  BTW, we drove to two donation centers and both were closed.  Went by again this morning and they were still closed but said open at 12 PM.  Went back and finally got our goods delivered but we had to wait in a line of 10 cars🤣🤣🤣

JANE, I do hope Christy has arrived safely.  Enjoy the time you have together😘

GLORIA, sure happy to read the maintenance man has turned on your heat!

AMY, I have to say, we sure are enjoying our clean windows....we were really in need of getting them done.

Nothing else going on around here.

Enjoy your day😘

Another uneventful day in the Soda Shoppe!  Only one post between mine around 8 this morning and this one a little after 10 tonight.

JENNY, I'm sure glad you popped in or I'd really be lonesome!  Our Goodwill isn't taking any donations right now and the guy I talked to couldn't tell me when they would.  I guess their stores aren't doing much business right now and they don't have room for any more "stuff".

Christy arrived safely and so did her husband...and their two dogs.  Right now, we're a 4 dog household because Cooper is also staying with us today.  If you think that's not a "fun" and "watch your step" time you must be crazy.

Now I'm headed for bed.  We've had a busy day around here. No time for a nap and I'm dragging.  My guests are bedded down and I'm heading for the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

AND PLEASE COME IN THE SODA SHOPPE FOR A VISIT!  IT'S WAAAAAAY TOO QUIET IN HERE!

I'm here to say "sweet dreams and God Bless" to all. Busy day here as well. When my daughter is in town she keeps everyone stirred up, a ball of fire. Great grands played soccer games except the 6 year old had to go to the doctor...  intestinal issue & not the virus. She had this before and with Crohn's in the family (her father, gr-mother, an aunt for sure and another aunt & uncle that "watch what they eat" ... a little fearful it might be another Crohn's diagnosis. Have to wait and see.

In the meantime.... I've just been busy cleaning house & the pool. Time for those trees to start dumping leaves into the pool, then the nightmare begins! Can't cover too early or it will get icky before spring. This year we didn't even have to "shock it" to turn that perfect color. Always plenty to do, feeding cats & cleaning litter boxes. I do have fun, too!

Better go get out what to wear to church in the morning. Since families can sit together I will save the whole pew. The one in front & behind will be roped off... the auditorium is also used with chairs & benches, enough room so everyone can safely distance and all wear masks. Different world we are living in. We pick up McDonalds & go to the park that joins the zoo, great place to visit & walk & new playground for the kids. Guess it is sanitized regularly.

Wishing all a Super Sunday after a restful sleep.  Shirley  :hello:  :walkwhistle:  :winkie:

Good morning everyone..

Chilly morning here with a temp of 28° . I did cover the pepper plants up but will pick what is left and that is it for tucking the garden in. The pumpkin squash are all in and the one must go 16lbs lot of pies in that one!

Today is a day of rest. Beets are done  :cheer: I just have to label and put away. Floor did get washed as I couldn't stand it any longer.

Jane , have fun with your family.

Gloria, the clouds looked like cotton candy and we didn't get any adverse weather from them. Birds here are striping the trees of the fruit and berries. Think they know something we don't?

Shirley, it seems you were just opening the pool and now time to close it. We are so busy in the summer that time seems to fly by.

Jenny, the one place in the city is taking donations but the SA isn't as of yet. We do have a bunch of "stuff" to go when they do accept.

Good morning Lloyd,

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe.

I came earlier & thought I left a post but probably Lloyd & I were posting at the same time and I didn't go back to double check & click post again.  Had only 3 hours & 7 min sleep, (so Fitbit says) not enough for this old lady so after church & breakfast in the park, I'll be finding the missing zzzzzzzzs.

Good morning, Amy!  I hear some of the thrift shops are open for donations here, not all. I keep sorting & then dump back together because other things more pressing & I need the space where I'm sorting.

A cool 60° this morning, love it. Enjoy the day, can't live it over, smile and nobody can tell anymore with the masks!  :-\  :'(

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone. 43 and when I looked out I saw frost on the cars that were still in the shade. There goes the gardens for the year. I forgot to fill my weekly pill container yesterday so had to do that this morning so I could take my first one of the day before my coffee. The wind must have changed direction because we had bright sun and a beautiful blue sky yesterday. I did get out in it and enjoyed a short walk and sitting on my rollator on the porch. A couple others came out to enjoy it, too. Was great to have a little social time-yes we kept our distance.

JANE  when one takes care of their clothes they do last. I still have a few tops I had in my working days and I have been retired a little over 24 years. Of course they are baggy on me but so comfy.

JENNY  I was just getting used to my new iPhone and it updated last night. Now I have  to learn all over. Still so much to learn on it but it will sink in after awhile if I keep at it. I have had it a week now.

JANE  glad your family arrived safely. I cannot imaging having 4  dogs underfoot.

SHIRLEY  shock it-perfect color? What color? Did you mean nice and clear to see the color at the bottom of the pool?  My son closed his pool a couple of weeks ago and his oldest daughter-the one who now has the apartment I lived in. We know she will keep it clean  and not like his wife's brother left it-a pigpen.

LLOYD  from what I saw this morning we will not get out of the 50's today. Nice I can go out again with a jacket on and breathe the fresh air.

AMY  since you are not a sailor or live near the ocean you don't  have to worry about a red sky in the morning. Have you never heard the  "Red sky in the morning-sailors take warning. Red sky at night sailors delight"  In the morning a storm coming at night calm seas.

SHIRLEY  I have an ex sis in law and her daugter who get all their clothes at SA or Aunt Sally's as they call it. I don't have a big wardrobe and when I get done with the clothes they are ready for the rag bag. Even with a mask on our eyes still show so keep a smile in your eyes.

AMY  we said abou t the same thing to Shirley, keep smiling and others will wonder what you have been up to.

Have a good day and stay safe.

PHYLLIS  you sneaked in on me when I tried posting. Have a good day with ho rain and just nice sunny days.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We've been up for a while, made breakfast and took doggies for walks.  Christy's husband and the BIG dog (named Rommel) have gone home.  We still have 3 dogs.

Christy is in the shower and then getting dressed and Cathy is coming over and were going to visit the antique mall.  I'm not sure which one.  We have two and my kids like both of them.  I'm just tagging along.

Frankie's birthday was yesterday (I can't believe she's 27!) and Christy, Frankie, Roelkey and I all went out for dinner.  This was my first dinner out since WAAAAAAY before the pandemic.  It was  nice evening!  Then Roelkey and Craig (my other SIL) went pub hopping and Christy, Frankie and I came home and "hung out" together.  All in all, a nice day!

Now I better get myself ready or they'll go out without me.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Happy Sunday wishes to ALL.

It is a beautiful day here in the Mile High City.  Much less smoke in the air and the temp is perfect.  I am half watching football with my honey, however my iPad is on my lap and a beautiful bouquet of flowers are sitting on the table next to me....a surprise from our youngest son and daughter-in L💗VE, that smell amazing❣️

The flowers were delivered just to help make me feel better and I am feeling so blessed to know how much my kiddos care about me❣️  Of course I cried like a baby and that even helped to give my eyes that have been bothering me from dryness a good washing out🤣🤣🤣

Nice to see you checking in, PHYLLIS.

GLORIA, good for you agreeing to take on a new iPhone....I have had one for quite a long time and I still find it a real challenge at times....especially when they change so many things with the updates.

JANE, I hope you and the girls enjoyed the antique stores today together😘

AMY, I do hope you took advantage of a day of rest as you never ever seem to stop and give yourself a break🤣🤣

Time for me to go start dinner.....I am not hungry at all and nothing really sounds good, but we still have to eat😘

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Good morning everyone, had our first night down in the 30's, 36 and  we had another frost but maybe a killing frost this time. I could see it on the cars when I pulled up the bedroom shade. Wonder if this will be the end of all the flowers on the porch now. There are boxes on the porch railings and some hanging pots, too. Not as pretty as other years, not as colorful. The wind did change, coming from the north east and blew the smoke away. Yesterday was anther  beautiful day with blue sky and no clouds.

JANE  looks like you had a good weekend. Glad you had both daughters to go antiquing with. I think most of what I own is antique by now.

JENNY  this new apple phone already did an update and since I still have so much to learn it did not make much difference to me. Just have to be careful not to keep hitting the camera button.

LLOYD  hope you slept as good as I did last night.

Looks like no one is up and 'at em" this morning.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone..

Another frosty morning here..Sept is slowly getting by.

Taking Kyle to foot clinic this morning then home to tidy up. Not much else on the go..that I know of.

Gloria, thank goodness your maintenance man put the heat on for you. The colour is coming into the area now, trees are getting their fall attire on bit by bit.[

Jane, did you buy anything at the antique stores or just admire their wares?

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe./color]

Another beautiful morning here.  The temp. was 51 when I got up.  No frost here yet, Gloria, but it will get here eventually.  I am beginning to see a slight color change in some of the trees.  Tomorrow is the first day of Fall.

Last night was the first night in a very long time I slept all the way through.  It felt wonderful.

Take care, All.

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 😸

BURRR, there is quite the nip in the air this morning. We added to our record of the most days above 90* yesterday, but they are predicting that will pretty much be our last one🤪

We enjoyed a yummy dinner last night.  I had decided earlier in the day to fix a premade container of spetzel purchased at Costco, so all I had to do was open it up and put it in a fry pan to lightly brown it.  I have to say, it was very good and pretty much the best spetzel I have had in years.  I was very pleased with it.  I had two boneless pork chops that I pounded down pretty flat and put hunter spices, garlic, salt and pepper on them then pressed a small amount of panko on them and cooked them in my Air Fryer.  I cut up a combination salad and that is all.  Over all, it tasted quite good to me and Bob really enjoyed it.  Even though I do not have much of a appetite I know I have to fix something so I just get something out of the freezer and go with it, hungry or not. Anyway, it sure is nice when you actually enjoy the meal you fix🤪

My Broncos have really taken a beating this first couple of games.  We have so many of the main players hurt and it is not looking good.  We have a young team and we sure hoped we could win a few this year😡

I enjoyed watching the US Open yesterday.  My favorite player won so that made me smile😘

Laundry is getting done and that might be it for day....

I wish you all a good day.

Jenny

Well, my company is all gone and I'm down in the dumps!  I miss them already and they're not even close to home yet!

We got a lot of visiting done and they did some things for me and we ate some good meals and did some shopping together!  It was just so nice to have them here!  I think Mickie is as worn out as I am.  We had 4 dogs from around 4pm on Saturday until about noon on Sunday and 3 the rest of the time.  She tried her best to keep up but she's  the senior-dog in the group and it wasn't easy.

Now I'm going to find some supper and then goof off the rest of the evening.  Tomorrow already has things planned.  I picked the rest of the green tomatoes and I'm planning to make some piccalilli and then I have to deal with the red oned.  I think I might make a small batch of spaghetti sauce with them. I think I have some sausage meatballs in the freezer that can go in them.

Oh well!  I'm going to play Scarlett and "think about that tomorrow!  Today has been busy enough!

Good morning everyone..

Temp is 31° and for the next few days we will have warmer weather that what we have been having. Gardens are done now other than root crops and can be cleaned up for next year.

Today will go into town to pick up a med  then home to work about. With this nicer weather I think the garden will take priority. I am trying to come up with an idea of getting the one trug ready with pine boughs, Christmas decorations and lights.  Just in thought now but after Halloween will put it in place.

Jenny oh my your supper sounds delicious!!

Jane, when the kids come here we have had a total of  6 dogs.....minus Davids two Great Danes :) How do you cook your pumpkin squash? I read some bake them and others boil them? I do want to save the seeds  for next year.

Better git.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Another busy day here... daughter still in town so she is going to come this morning & we're going to Sam's Club for a few things each, then to lunch. Her oldest gr-son has a soccer game Wed evening she is staying for that. I understand the "let down" when they are gone, Jane, but wears me out to try to keep up.

Tom & Tiger stayed inside last night. Started outside but when I opened the bedroom door for fresh and very cool air, they showed up & wanted in. They each took turns scratching their "mites" or whatever makes cats clean all the time. My allergies are driving me nuts but my theory is that as long as cats go out & bring the pollen in on their fur & feet, I may as well have the pleasure of fresh air at night. Have not solved the problem of the apparent invitation for cats to think it's play time. But, they do get to sleep all day.

Better get a move on. Wishing all a Terrific Tuesday (thanks to Callie)... no frost here. I think we still have a few 80s in the next 10 day forecast, but that's tolerable with cool nights, right Gloria?

Amy, was wondering about price of wood where you are. From what I understand, it has gone out of sight around here. I need to replace 4 12 or 15 foot 4x4s, Andy used a term that means they are the full 4x4 size not shaved down. I debated whether to just have them torn out & not replaced because they are just decoration up the sidewalk to the porch & from garage to the sidewalk. I think I'm going to give up and Round UP the flower beds I had along that area because the Bermuda grass moved in and some bird planted cane seed that has grown taller than the gutters on the house the last few years. The rails were here when we bought back in '88 but had shrubs so overgrown we couldn't see them until we got the shrubs out. Then we found layer after lay of black plastic on the ground that had different colored rock covering instead of them ever removing any before putting down different. Cas added a new layer with more black plastic & lava rock but the weeds & Bermuda grows through anyway. Quite a mess and only the strongest chemicals will clear it out this time & hate to use because of birds & cats. A must job now. I'm thinking of strongly hinting for my son to make the longer trug for the inside part so I can plant flowers in it to satisfy my gardening habit... and could decorate like you say, for Halloween & Christmas! Sounds like a plan. Guess if the trug is not painted those rails should not be painted?  They were painted white from the original owners & we've just repainted over the years. Was a time I could do those jobs myself but had someone that loved doing it, now he is gone & I don't think I could tote around a 12 or 15 foot 4x4, tearing out or replacing! Too bad my brain hasn't realized the BODY is growing older and can't take on these jobs.

Good morning every one another frosty one and in the low 30's again. I got a good 8 hours sleep last night, actually woke with it light out already. Only thing with that is I am stiff in the morning when I sleep that long. Actually feel like an old lady trying to move. If I moved while sleeping it might be better but I wake  in the same spot I fall asleep.

AMY  hope you got everything out of your garden before it froze.  Would like to have your wood stove heat when I get up in the mornings now. I turn the heat up when I get in here but baseboard heat sure leaves much to be desired. Would like the forced hot air I had at my last apartment.

LLOYD  like you my left shoulder was a pain this morning but I put some Hempvana on it and it eased up.

PHYLLIS  it sure does feel good getting a night long sleep. I did last night for a change. The nights of 4 or 5 hours sleep does not do it for me.

JENNY  like you I have no appetite and if it wasn't for Yvette during the week I would go all day without eating. I have a freezer full but hard to cook anything. We did make a shepherds pie last week and had 5 containers in the freezer, had one over the week end. My olest son says I should get TV dinners but with all the preservatives in them they burn my throat and I have tried most of them.

LLOYD  it is a pain with no phone or cable. With Cox for a carrier here it is out often but we s till have to pay full price for the hours we are stuck.

JANE  does your home feel big now and like something is missing? I know I felt like that when my daughter and family came for a visit. The boys would find a place out of the way for their luggage and it was great having her there to help with the cooking. When they left to go home I would walk around looking for something as my 3 rooms would seem so big and empty. They would be gone a couple of hours and already I was waiting for the phonecall telling me they were back in San Diego safe.

LLOYD  be careful with those tires.

AMY  before we know it we will be getting ready for Christmas.

SHIRLEY  right you are, cool nights with a window open make for better sleep. Will not be long now when all the AC's will be coming out of the windows here. The witch wants them all out by 10-1. The window one I have now is great, my light bill was half of what it was with that portable one I had and that one never kept me cool enough. Guess there comes a time when we all realize we can no longer do what we  used to do and that is when we know we are old.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Shirley, I understand that problem of wanting to do with the mind yet the silly body has "other" plans. Yes, lumber has gone up here. Kyle uses PT (pressure treated) wood and in some lumber yards they do not have any and when it does come in th price will be high. He found a source for the fence boards 1x 6 x 8  near by and the price was up a bit but not enough to deter him from getting it. We have the makings of 3 trugs over head in the shed for customers in the spring.  This year there are a lot of items unavailable canning jars lids etc can't be found.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but my "attem" hasn't kicked in yet!  I still miss the kids and dogs but they did get home safe.

I had a plan for today but so far, I haven't been able to get my motor started!  I think someone might have taken the key home with them.  I sure hope it knows enough to come back soon!

AMY, I have always cooked the crook neck pumpkins in a big pot on the stove.  I cut them in chunks, remove the seeds and stems and leave the skins on.  I cover the with just enough water to barely cover and bring it to a boil and lower to simmer and cook until they are soft (just barely soft).  Then I turn them into a drainer and let them sit until they are cool enough to handle.  They are lots easier to peel that way.  However, when I had the IP, I did try cooking them in there and it worked pretty well.  You could try that if you want to.  After I had them peeled, I pureed them in the food processor.  Lot of work but it freezes well.  I tried to freeze them in packages the sizes I'd be using in recipes.

Christy and her hubby brought me one so I'll be doing that, too

Now I have to go put the drops in my eyes.  I know I'm behind on that job and I want to catch up.  y eyes are really DRY!

I hope you all have a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when we don't "see" you!

YOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO! Where is everyone?  I posted at 10 this morning and it's almost 10 tonight and no one has posted all day!

I peeled and cooked the rest of the ripe tomatoes off the vine and then put them in the food processor and then strained the seeds out.  I cooked it until it thickened somewhat and then made spaghetti and meatballs out of it.  I have two quarts of it in the fridge and it's deeeeee-licious!

That's all I managed today but I'm all set up make piccalilli tomorrow.  I hope I can get my motor running early enough to finish it off.  I sill have a couple of after company things to do around the house and that's all I have planned for tomorrow.  We'll have Cooper most of the day tomorrow and that almost doubles the number of walks we have to take so that will take some of my time.

I hope you don't get too bored reading my posts two in a row.  And I sure hope there are more people in here tomorrow.  I rest between chores and come in here to read and today there wasn't any reason to stay!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep, pleasant dreams and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  PLEASE come back and see us!

I've been here today 'cause I mentioned going to Sam's Club & did that today!  Bedtime in Kansas so that ends the day.

Wed morning..... the phone rang & I forgot what I was doing. Wiggled the mouse & this popped up.

Had a decent night of sleep so ready to take on the world. Was down in the dumps because my driving knee has been aching the last couple days. The other knee that I blew ..whenever... doesn't give me any trouble so know I have not been "favoring" it. Anyway, driving knee is important in my world, means I can still GO. My good friend here (same age) can't understand my need to be free, I think the difference is she was a first born & I was last of 5. I saw how much more freedom my brothers had (she had no brothers) than my older sister. She loved being looked after & pampered and she got plenty of that! Anyway, brain kicked in this morning and I remembered my own preaching and will get out the Epsom salt & heat pad this morning... fix me up, right, Gloria?  First is breakfast, already fed cats.

I knew someone would show up as soon as I hit "POSt".... Good morning, Phyllis, Lloyd & Amy. It is cloudy/hazy but no rain expected so will go turn on the sprinklers.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, EVERY FRIEND  (Thanks to Callie & Janie)

well glad to see you ladies. I am debating if I should tell the bad luck or not. Over the labor day weekend
when we were gone down south someone visited our shop and helped there self to a lot of our tools. amounts to several thousand $$$$ worth of tools and grinders. I walked around with and gave a list to sheriff's deputy. now the insurance CO wants us to go over and tell them how old and $$ gate for. a word of advice take a creamer and go around talking to it and open drawers doors to closet's and take pictures. my mind wasn't that good even when I was young. Have a good day.

Sorry about the break in, Lloyd. When our house was broken in a year or so after we had moved here, I did have a video of every room & anything worth while. I also made a list of the little things I didn't think worth much and discovered some of those little things the kids had given us when they were young had become "collectables" and worth more than new stuff! Bottom line was the things that mattered most and could not be replaced at all (like coins that came from France with my original immigrant great grandparents, and coins in a little leather pouch that was in my gr-father's pocket when he was hit by a train....) Dad had given me those things to pass on to my kids and they were gone in MY care. So, best wishes for whatever recovery you get and hope it is more than if you sold at an estate sale!  I did give the insurance agent the video I had made but know for a fact she never looked at it.... I had taped at the wrong speed.  :uglystupid2:

I wonder what's wrong with the Soda Shoppe? No one has been in here all day again.  Yesterday when no one came by, we gave it a thorough cleaning top to bottom and we made all new coffee, tea and soda mixes.  So nothing is stale and it sure as heck doesn't smell bad!

And I took a shower and washed my hair!  Did everyone else do that?

Today I made green tomato relish and it took a lot longer than the recipe said it would.  But I've used up a bunch of my green tomatoes and tomorrow, I'm going to make a batch of fried green tomatoes and that should be the last of the tomatoes.

I don't know why I'm even writing this.  I guess no one is interested enough to come by and chat.

LLOYD, I'm so sorry about your break in and your loss.  I hope the compensation is enough that you can replace what you need.

I'm off to an early bed.  I'm really tired!  Good night my friends (if you hear me)  and God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, sorry I did not have time to spend here yesterday, that is what I got for sleeping so late 2 days in a row. Today I woke after 5 hours so here I am with my coffee in the SS as usual. I sure am not used to having anyone here at 10 am and it threw my day all off. It isn't often Yvette asks for a different time, think it is only the third time in the 3 years she has been coming here.

SHIRLEY  glad the epsom salts helped your knee, I was going to suggest the Hempvana pain cream. It sure helps my back. 5 days a week I get a good back massage with the Hempvava, I sent some to my daughter after she had surgery on her right thumb and it was just about useless-she could hardly move it and after a week she started to be able to move it and now it is OK.

LLOYD  sorry someone stole so many of your tools. Didn't someone do that  a few years ago? Hope  the police can find whoever did it to you. I remember the first time my oldest son and family went on a vacation and someone broke into their house, stole their TV and several other items. He had a burglar alarm system installed and never left the house with no one in it again. I used to go there to house sit and take care of their pets.

JANE  of course I am reading your post and the SS looks and smells wonderful, full of fall decorations that bring the smell of autumn in.
Let us know how the green tomato relish come out. ever had  that but I had the green tomato piccalilly my Mom made.

JACKIE  about the only place I post these days is here. Cannot sit here at the PC long anymore.

Looks like this is the end of the posts for now.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning,, Gloria, Jackie and Jennie.  Jennie was the real early bird this morning.

I am only just checking in as I have to get a move on.  I have to go for blood work this morning.  I didn't have to fast so I am eating a dish of cantaloupe just to hold me over.  I like to stop at McDonalds, as it is right next to the blood lab and I like their sausage, egg and cheese McMuffins.  I usually get a large glass of orange juice and bring it all home.  I only live about 5 or 6 minutes from where I go.  Makes it very convenient.

My DIL is picking me up about 8, so I don't have much time. I took a shower last night which will make it quicker getting ready.

Hope everyone will have a good and safe day.

Good morning everyone..

Another fantastic day in the making so the weather lady said on the news. Love these fall days. Birds have just about stripped the berries from the Mountain Ash tree.
we did get most of the garden in order, just have a wee bit left to do and then the 2 trugs can be placed in.  Delivered the Mountain ash tree 4' one to a friend along with some little one for her to plant. I got lucky at the grocery store they actually had pint jars and 3 cases came home with us.

Today is finish off the garden, I hope and pick up paint, dog food and home to work.

Jane, my neighbour sent over some pie, it is different than pumpkin but a nice pie. She agrees that it could of used more spice but was still good! When pulling out the old vine I tugged on one only to find out why it wasn't coming as TWO more crooked necks were still on the vine. They had been hidden in the currant bush and also out of sight from the frost.

Gloria, You must have needed the sleep or you wouldn't have been able to sleep that long. Seems we can go for so long then everything has to catch up.

Lloyd, I too am sorry for your loss. What about putting a  web cam up? One that only works on motion and see what it catches? Friends of ours have one set up in front of their home mainly to see the wild animals that come into their yard. A lot of hunters use them  on trails too.

Shirley, hope your knee is feeling better today. Do you wrap your knee in a cloth soaked in Epson salts?

Better get movin' here.

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Joy,good morning ,you tippy toed in on me! Hope your blood work goes well. We also like the McMuffins at Micky D's

I'm always here, you just can't see me...I'm invisible! I visit here in most all the forums every day.  I get so confused by the time stamps on the posts. It will say "Today" and show 1:46 AM, or even a PM time from the day before???
Oh, well, so long as you all know I'm looking in!

Tomereader, the timestep reflects your time zone rather than the actual time the message was posted. This is why I see posts from the east US coast and other countries shown posted before 3 AM or earlier.

For example, my time zone is an hour behind Marilyne and eleven hours I believe, behind Bubble. So the time stamps on their posts I see, show according to my time and not theirs.

It is exactly 1:25 PM here in Dallas. The time stamp on my above post showed 6:13 PM (today)  It's about 5 hours off, is what's so confusing.  The time stamp on yours showed 6:20 PM.  Is it after 6:00 PM in Alaska right now? That still doesn't seem right.

No, that is not right. I posted at 10:20 AM. Your return post has a timestamp of 10:29 my time. You are three hours ahead of Alaska in your time zone.

You need to go into your site profile, look and Layout page, and check your time zone listed. You may have to use the drop-down list and find the one that more accurately reflects your time. Quick Edit, remember after selecting your time zone to scroll to the bottom right of the page and click the change profile button!

For example, my time zone I've selected is AKDT or Alaska District time zone. It coincides with my correct time.

Another day drawing to an end. We did get a lot done, garden is almost finished ,the 2 new trugs have been set in and tarps down . Just need to pick up more tarps tomorrow to finish off the back area. While out in the beautiful weather we saw geese, flying high heading south. Seems early but then they may know something we don't.

Pastry is made ,just have throw an apple pie together but that may be tomorrows jobs. Kyle has finished painting the garage floors twice now ,that is another job by the way side. Little by little the jobs are coming to an end.

Crow is telling me he didn't get enough food so I will give him a bit more..

Hey Everyfrien!  It's nice to see the gathering today...especially Jackie/Vanilla.  You don't come by here very often.  Thanks for the good comments on the cleaning job.  I just thought it might need a little something.

I made a batch of fried green tomatoes in time for lunch.  I ate four slices for my lunch and I have lots more.  I'll be able to enjoy them for a couple meals to come.  I also printed a recipe for Green Tomato Salsa.  Frankie's been talking about that and I'm pretty sure she won't get around to making it so maybe I'll make her some tomorrow.  I still have a couple of tomatoes out there that are trying to ripen and this is supposed to be a warmer week so I'm going to give them some time.

I was going to make a quick trip to the Mennonite market today but I didn't make it.  Maybe tomorrow.  I don't need much but I like to see what they have.  I have stuff put together for cole slaw and I'm going to make the dressing in time for supper.  But first I have to make dog food.  So I'm off to do that!

I hope you are all having a great day!

Good Afternoon,

Personally, I don't find my life boring or tedious and I'm not in a dither about "the way things are" so I really don't feel I fit into the conversations about those or canning and cooking and gardening and dogs and running around, etc.

I suppose I should be more upset about Miss Emily barely missing being affected by Beta but she made it home safely from a planned weekend with sorority sisters on the beach in Galveston so.....
She had flown to Houston last Friday morning to meet the friends and go to an Air B&B in Galveston - coming home on Monday.  They did get to enjoy the sun and sand on Saturday but, obviously, had to leave on Sunday.  Fortunately, she was able to switch her Monday flight to the same time on Sunday.

Enjoyed a "dinner date" with #2 son last night.  I served "freezer fallout" and had enough to offer dil when she came by after her mani/pedi.  It had been quite a while since I'd had a chance to visit with her.

This is "Office Day" to catch up on e-mails, work on photo album and type up some recipes for slow cooker meals that son wants.  He is The Cook at their house but she is working from home so would be able to turn on the slow cooker at her lunch break and save him from having to prepare a meal from scratch when he gets home from work.  He continues to be swamped with big budget Landscape Design projects; the company thinks that people who had planned to travel are spending that money on making their back yards a Place To Be.

"Shopper" just called to say my grocery delivery is on its way.  Off to open the garage door so she can bring the sacks into the kitchen.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Callie, I am with you as I don't find life boring or tedious. Too many things to do here now some I want to do while others well...they will eventually get done.

I am glad Miss Emily  made it home safe..no matter how old they are we always worry about our children and grandbabies.

Dinner date sounds perfect and a win win for all. Freezer fallout always hits the spot as all the flavours mingle.

Jane, I forgot to tell you about the two hidden squash. Last night around 8 pm I thought of the squash that didn;t get into the house, not wanting them to freeze I thought I would go get them. I had let the dogs out for their nightly run and went to bring them in. I was in my pjs but it was dark, just a wee bit of light shone where I was to go. Movement over by the fence caught my eye and there were the two dogs and the neighbour!!!
Grabbed the two squash and headed for the house! I will certainly look if there should be a next time. Kyle of course had a good laugh. /color]

I don't find life boring or tedious either.  And I don't find the postings by others who don't do the things I do, boring or tedious.  In fact, I find it particularly interesting to learn what kind of things others do and sometimes I wonder if I could find the talent or the patience to do some of those things.  That's part of why I "gripe" when people don't post.  There is such a variety of living being done by the people who frequent this place that I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have it.

Now, both dogs are barking and it's time to take them for their walks.  This is the one I do separately.  I can't handle both of them at once any farther than the mail box 3 houses down the street.

They're driving me nuts and I think I was already half way there.

CALLIE, I'm glad Miss Emily is home safe.  But I still worry about my granddaughter and her husband who live in Houston.

well Nancy is finishing the last in the little pies in the deep fryer. we take the large caned biscuits. I role them out thin. we put cherry pie filling on half and fold them over and take a fork and go around the edges of them with the tines to seal them. and fry them in the deep fat fryer. we also cooked a few with fried apple's in them. I may not be back this evening. if so will see you all tomorrow.

Jane, for all the years I was married to a "Southerner" that loved fried green tomatoes, I never EVER tasted or saw how they were cooked. He tried to explain one time, best he knew how his mother fixed them. After cleaning up that mess I suggested "if you ever want them again you can ask your Mama to fix them!"  Had to be a cast iron skillet, Crisco (I had no idea where you got lard)... sliced the green tomatoes & rolled them in corn meal. It stuck to the skillet so bad I considered throwing skillet away, but didn't. His mother never fixed them all the years we visited so I really don't know what they are supposed to look like. Not that I ever intend frying them, just curious how YOU fix them.  Please & Thanks...

I spent most of the afternoon trying to soak my driving knee but had to go to the store & get more Epsom salt first!  Just came up from feeding the fish and the soak didn't help. I put Hempvana on this morning, Gloria, didn't help, and now the other knee is sympathizing along with the sciatic nerve so need to try some stretches. If y'all hear yelling it only me.

My daughter headed back to MO this morning and called at her stop to say some of the trees are showing a little color already (she's been here a week). I fully intend driving to my fav spot at Truman Lake & on through Sedalia to put fall flowers on Mom & Dad's graves. Most years I make 2 trips back so take fresh cut mums the first time, Mom loved fresh flowers, and then artificial for the winter. But I gotta get this knee fixed to drive.  :tickedoff:  :(

It is hot here right now but cool nights so tolerable. Supposed to turn colder next week so fish will be going to deeper water. Great grands are coming to see them tomorrow evening and since they are actually going to school & day care/ pre school, the parents don't want them to come inside so I will open the big gate & they can come through the back yard and each take a walking stick, I keep plenty on hand because it helps the uneven ground. I don't know how to resize a video to show. When Jack from West VA used to post, he knew how & tried to explain but I never got the hang of it. I will take a camera to capture the greats feeding the fish & will sneak in a couple if Bubble will help resize for me.

May not get back before bedtime. I still haven't had supper & it's getting dark. I have the trash dumpster out to the street for early pick up, cats haven't had their evening meals... I have been feeling so sorry because Tom looks so thin, but after him leaving a partial eaten  critter at the sliding door this morning and then throwing up the rest of that critter along with his breakfast ... all over the floor in the kitchen... I'm not feeling sorry for him anymore. He's been wanting to stay out these cool nights & probably hunting & running the whole time. They are feral and I knew when we adopted them they never give up the desire to run free. Poor old LaurenKat went into mourning when we kept her in one time. Told Cas I'd never do that again to a feral animal. They don't mind when we're in the RV, but it is a challenge to protect them & we lost with old LaurenKat, I still feel bad she got away out in CO.

Okay, shut up, Shirley... Sweet dreams & God Bless.

SHIRLEY, I sent you the directions for making fried green tomatoes like my
Gramma and Mom used to make them, only easier.

JACKIE, the doggies stop driving me crazy when I take them out so maybe I'll survive.

AMY, my first foray with Mickie in the morning is usually in my PJs and I try to stay back where the cars on the road won't see me.  Sometimes it works!

Now I'm going to take Mickie out one last time and get ready for bed.  I didn't think I did enough to get this tired today but I guess I must have.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

We had a nice gentle rain during the night .Meeting up with friends early this morning to exchange goodies we have bought for each other. She is bringing me much needed black elastic for the masks. Then home to make the apple pie and can carrots.

Lloyd, enjoy the hand pies.

Jane, We took a squash to a friend yesterday and when she saw the size could only say OH MY!!! I had sent her this site and she is going to cook it the way Fred did.

Good Morning my frineds!  It's almost time for the boinger to go off for Mickie's breakfast....mine too.  So this will be short!

AMY, I guess your friend isn't going to make pies out of the crook neck pumpkin.  And it sounds like Farmer Fred doesn't do that either because he never mentioned it.  Cooking the pumpkin in the oven seems a lot easier but I wonder how it would be in pies? I think I'll stick with my way of cooking them for pies.  That's basically what I use them for and what my family uses them for.

I got up to 54º this morning heading for a high of 80.  Not too bad after what we had last week.  I might get a few more red tomatoes.

My plan for today is a quick trip to Davy's (the Mennonite store) and then back home to do a little cleaning and a little cooking and a lot of eating!  Sounds like a good day to me!

I wish the same for all of you!  Enjoy your day! Make it your own!

What is left of Hurricane Beta is coming through NC today.  No wind but lots of rain so it is a dark and dreary day.  No plans for going any where so I'll just stay here where it is warm and dry.

The hand pies sound good, Lloyd, and I've already added the canned biscuits and cherry pie mix to the next grocery list.

I have a pkg. of stew beef in the freezer and think I might get that out and put it in the slow cooker.  A pot of Beef Stew sounds good to me today.

Take care, All.

A Good Friday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.  It sure is a pretty morning here.  We are to break another temperature record today.....so many of those lately.  One of our awful forests fires here in the state is completely under control FINALLY.  They sure have been awful.

We had our yearly physicals yesterday and everything is good....we both need more exercise.....that was a given, but our bloodwork numbers are fantastic! Sure glad to have that over and done.  Now I have all kinds of tests I am do for...mamo, dexascan, colonoscopy etc.  UGH! We both got our flu shots.  Onward and upward.

I sure hope I will be careful today and not do the dumb thing I did the other night and go back yo look at a post and loose this one....SAVING THIS RIGHT NOW!

PHYLLIS, sure glad Beta is not giving you any more grief than rain.  We sure could use some of that rain out here in the West.  Stew sounds delicious....enjoy.

JANE, I hope the trip to Davy's is successful and I sure like the thought of you eating and enjoying all the good food you make.

AMY, enjoy the day you have planned.

LLOYD, your hand pies you are making sure sound good.

OK I have done it again.....one little finger slip up and off to another page and now most of my post is gone.  GURRRR.

I guess I can not be trusted, so I am going to post this before I do it again😩😩. Clearly, my post was much too long anyway.....but I lost a lot of comment to most of you and for that I am sorry😢😢
Enjoy the rest of your day,  EVERYFRIEND.

Hello Everyfriend!  Today was a good day!  I had nothing really planned except a trip to Davy's and I did that.  A lot of other chores poked up their heads and demanded attention and I took care of lots of things that I had almost forgotten.

I also did a load of towels and one of throw rugs and put them all back where they belonged.  Took both doggies for on nice long walk and a short one around noon or so.  I changed my summer flags outside for Autumn ones and now I'm in sync with the seasons.

I guess it will soon be time to change the closets around and put the summer clothes away and get out the winter ones.  I'm not looking forward to ice and snow!  I know some of you prefer the winter but I could live with Spring or Fall year round!

Now I'm heading for the haystack.  I hear it's loaded with zzzzzs and I need to collect a few!  Tomorrow, I'm making Frankie some green tomato salsa.  She asked if she could have some of the green tomatoes and when I asked her how many she needed, it turned out she didn't even have a recipe.  She just had it and enjoyed it somewhere she was.  So I found a recipe and I'm making her some tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

I am sitting here listening to the sound of gunshots and flying geese. Hunting season is here and yes I know they are a pest at times and messy creatures but I love watching them. Guess I would be of a different opinion if they were messing up our lawn. Some parts of life stink! Next is deer season and that is another one I am not pleased with.

Yesterday was busy two trips into town one to pick up more paint  and one to get the groceries. Cooked up a package of hamburg for the dogs and they sure lapped their breakfast up this morning with a bit of it mixed in the dry food. I did make the apples pies, one for us and one for the freezer.

Today, more tarps are needed for the garden and dry dog food to be picked up.

Jane, she did make a pie with the squash and had LOTS to freeze. I know I really enjoyed the pie she sent over.

Jenny.........yay your bloodwork numbers are fine. Now to
make it through the next tests.

Phyliss ,to me stews are one of the best meals. Everything in one pot ,easy to clean up yet a very tasty meal for a couple of days.

Gloria, hope all is well with you..

Shirley, green tomatoes are not on my list of foods to eat. They look too much like a squished tomato worm .

Joy, hope you have a wonderful day.

Better get laundry started.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, sorry I did not make it yesterday. Think I did too much on my feet for 3 days and yesterday it caught up with me.  I woke early but went back to bed and slept more. Got up had a cup of coffee and then laid on the couch with the TV on and fell asleep, woke half an hour before Yvette got here, then she massaged my back with the Hempvna, felt so good and eased the pain. She would not let me do anything-just stay on the couch.
We did make an apple pie on Wednesday  and this is the first time I made an apple pie that was lousy IMO. I never saw such new crop apples so dry, not juicy at all. Must be because the lack of rain we have had this summer. Now the water and fire departments are stressing no useless outside watering and being careful of fires and disposing of lit cigarettes outside. Since January 1 we have had only 9 inches of rain. Most of what we had was more like a light mist, too little to be measured.
I did not turn the PC on till Skype time then checked my email. With all the sleep yesterday I slept good last night and feel much better this morning.

I never bother reading the time others post, I just care that I see my "family"post every day. Some of us have been together for years and we worry about each other when we do not show up to at least say hello.

AMY  you make me feel very lazy with all you do every day. If it wasn't for the darn arthritis I think I would be moving like I used to. LOL  nex t time you think of goind out in your PJ's at least put your robe on. Oh wow I wish I was still making a garden every year I woud be begging for some of those seeds, Hmm, wonder if older son would like some. Since he has retired he has been doing a lot od cooking and my DIL likes to cook and is a good cook, my grandson does most of the coking at his home. Think I will send your link to them.

JANE  seems every time I change my clothes around in the fall it gets warm Nd I only have warm clothes to wear. Thought I would wait a little longer this year.

LLOYD  hope you slept good like I did last night.

AMY  oh yuck, don't think I will ever ea t another green tomato. I never squished one of tho0se tomato worms, would ever touch them, when I saw one I would call someone to get them off the plant.

Gosh it has taken me 3 hours to go through thr posts and reply.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're sitting here waiting for the boinger for breakfast and I'm getting hungry.  I think maybe Mickie is, too because she just went in the hall and barked at the kitchen.  When we get up a little later, it's hard for her to wait!

AMY, Fred the Farmer, didn't mention making pies at all and I did wonder about that.  It seemed like a pretty easy way to cook the pumpkin and I'm always open to "easy".  However, I only have one crook neck this year given to me by daughter Christy so I think I'll stick with "tried and true".  If you try it, let me know how the pies turn out.

As soon as we have our breakfast and a walk, I'm going to do Frankie's green tomato salsa.  I think sometime this week, it will be time to pull up the tomato vines and close my wee little garden for the winter.  I still have lots of green tomatoes.  I was researching recipes yesterday and would you believe, I found one for "Green Tomato Cake".  Also found one for  a cobbler and one for green tomato chili.  Who knows what I might make!

I know it's almost time for the boinger so I will say "So Long for a while".  Enjoy your day!

Amy, I am still chuckling at your green tomato image.... certainly changed my mind about them sounding good!  I still can't eat prunes or raisins in anything because my brother told me they were "just squashed ticks" in Grandma's prune cake! I will NOT mention your thought when I send Jane's recipe to her!  :D

Gloria, I tried the Hempvana cream again yesterday, as well as soaking with Epsom salt... but this knee is being totally contrary this morning. I'm using the walker to navigate through the house. I am starting to think it must be the sciatic nerve & need to soak the lower back today. I have to get to the basement to turn on sprinklers to get the sand out of the system & then add water to the pool. No rain & the wind has sucked out at least 2 inches of water & need to keep the level on the tiles & not below. I am not ready for steps this morning so a soaking we go...

Still no sign of Mama Callie Cat... Tiger was by herself this morning when I yelled "breakfast". Not sure if Tom is sleeping in the center of the tall grass... that Pampas grass leaves a hole in the center of the plot & the cats were put in there by Mama Callie, have photos of the 3 babies playing & hiding in there and the last couple weeks Tom has returned to that spot to sleep (10 years later now). I decided he may not be dying but running his legs off chasing those rabbits all night. Too bad they don't have a bounty on rabbits, Tom is a great hunter. The neighbors quit trying to raise a garden because of so many rabbits.

Oh, I did post a photo my gr-son's wife took last night as we fed the fish. I wasn't even thinking about being in the pictures so was surprised when some showed up on Facebook!  I thought I had the size right but was a tad too large so Bubble fixed & brightened for me. It is over in Photos Then & Now if you want to meed my gr-son & 3 of the great grands.

Hi Everyfriend!  I got a lot done today but I'm not sure what it all was.  One thing was Frankie's Green Tomato Salsa and I'm ignoring AMY'S comment about green tomatoes because it would force me to waste a LOT of food and since I'm I child of the Depression and WWII, I can't bring myself to waste food!

HI SANDY, we haven't seen much of you lately.  You must be hanging out with more interesting people...like your family!

Good morning everyone.

I did not intend to get up this early but I guess my body has had enough sleep. I was up a couple of times with the dogs but now they too have gone back to bed.  A day of rest here after I label and put away 11 jars of carrots and 10 of hamburg.

I keep forgetting to tell you JANE that I did make your carrot soup......but didn't get a chance to can it. We love soup :)

Gloria, I am sure you could run rings around me if it wasn't for your back. The apple pie I made wasn't good either! The apples went to mush and even though I put flour in the sugar it  still made the bottom crust soggy and I don't like that either. My friend's son is going into apple county and we have asked for some Spy apples if they can be found.

Shirley...squashed ticks would throw one off eating for sure.  I am also going round with a rollator..no fun but necessary at the moment. X-rays and ultra sound will be done on Thurs. and hope to resolve the problem. Will go check out your photo.

Sandy, I love this cooler weather, our a/c has been covered for the winter now  and windows and doors open to let the cool breeze through.

Lloyd, hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Better get a move on here

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm sorry about those of you with back problems.  I have 3 bulging discs but I also have exercises from the orthopedist and my kinesiologist/chiropractor that help to ease that problem somewhat.  Standing over the sink preparing all these tomatoes for the future sometimes brings on extra pain an I have to stop and go lie down on the living room floor and do the exercises until I can go back to work.  So far, it's working for me.  I hope all of you get something that works for you!

Mickie and I are just waiting for the boinger, then breakfast and a walk and Cooper will probably be here by that time and the day begins!

Hello to LLOYD, AMY and everyone who comes by later.  I hope it's everyone!  Have a great day!

Good morning everyone, cloudy and a dreary start to the day. Oh well I am not going anywhere so really makes no difference to me. We have light rain in the forecast for the next 3 days. I have a dentist appointment for Wednesday morning. Wonder what it will be like now with waiting outside for  them to call me in. Keeps the waiting room empty that way.

JANE  love the way you are always cooking something. You will never go hungry and if you ate all of what you make you could be the fat lady in the circus ;) I know I am baaaaad :( I should not tease.

SHIRLEY  I had my sciatic nerve act up and went to PT for it. When I finish here I will have to go to photos and look for that photo of  the fish feeding. Hope I find it.

LLOYD  hope you slept as good as I did last night.

AMY  the apples I had were very dry, never saw any that dry in my life and they were so hard, too. MacIntosh apples get soft fast after picking and all I can say is the trees did not get enough water. I am surprised you are using a rollator, I get so tired of having to use one going on 8 years now. I so would love to go back to walking on my own again but will never happen.

JANE  with all you do and the standing, too, one would never know you have trouble wi th your back. I know with me I cannot stand too long in one place, my legs start shaking and then my back gets so bad I have to lay down and it takes a couple of days before things are better.

Time to go get my breakfast. Have a good day everyone and keep safe.

We have some sun this morning and that has helped burn off the heavy fog that I got up to at 7 a.m.  It looked really mysterious outside for awhile but is looking better now.

Amy, I was surprised and sorry to read that you are having to use the rollator for now.  You do so much all the time that I didn't realize that you were having problems walking.  I hope the tests this week will give some guides to some solutions.  And, I hope the same for you, Shirley and Jane.

Fruit and veggies, even right off the farm, just have not been very good this year at all.  The hot weather and lack of rain in some places and too much rain in other places just didn't make for a good year.  I got a little watermelon from Papa Spud's the other day and it had hardly any juice or flavor to it at all.  Also, some pears were so hard when I got them and then when they were soft enough to use them they went bad almost immediately.  I've about given up on fresh produce this year.

The stew simmered away in the crock pot all day yesterday and made the house smell so good.  I put it in he fridge overnight and will heat it for dinner today.  I sort of apologized to David that it didn't seem like a festive enough dinner for a Sunday but he said that stew was good for any day of the week as far as he was concerned.  It is one of his favorites.  It was one of Tom's favorites, too.

Make it a good day, Everyone.

Good Sunday Morning.

Just saying Good Morning.  I sure wish I could be making all the good things a lot of you make.  I never did any canning at all. One time, years ago, I did try caning some peaches, and then were afraid to eat them.  At that tine, I just didn't feel like I had done them right and was afraid they didn't seal good enough, so wound up throwing them away and never tried to can anything again.  My mother didn't do much canning either.  I did freeze veggies once in a while, but I never seem to have enough room in my freezer. Years ago, we did have a big freezer in the basement, and I did freeze summer veggies then.

Amy, I am sorry you have to be making use of a walker now. Sure hope you will get some answers to your problem.

I have used a walker for a long time now and, like Gloria, I sure wish I didn't have to.  My walking problem comes from when I had my back surgery.  Plus, my right foot just doesn't like to bend the right way and won't go where I want it to.  I have to be very careful. Sure don't want to fall again.

I have had breakfast and need to get on with my day.  Not sure what that will involve.

So, I wish you all a safe and happy day.

Joy

Talking of canning brings back memories of both my mother and my gran - moms mom...I have fond memories of mother pickling, red cabbage, silver onions, gherkins, and pickled walnuts, she pickled them then jarred them with lids in a vinegar..
Mom also home-made dandelion and parsnip wines, as a young child i climbed underneath a factories barbed wire fencing ( there was a gaping hole in it for a tiny body to squeeze through ) to pick dandelions to take home to mom..
Now i am going back a good 60 or so years...I remember all these jars were kept in our pantry on thick concrete shelves in the kitchen...I know that, as she kept a large container of gooey malt which i would help myself to now and then by dipping the spoon inside the jar then giving the spoon a good lick, until i got caught doing it one time and told it wasn't for me...

Good morning! All this talk of ticks and tomato worms makes me glad we don't have them here. I've done very little simple canning, I do make my ketchup and mayonnaise and salad dressings along with some sauces. But that's all outside of meal prepping. And even that, I'm slowing cutting back.

I do know that when I stop in here and see what you ladies are up to, it reminds me of my mother and father, farming and growing up through depression and wars. They used everything, while both holding down full time jobs,  hunted, fished, gardened with us kids as not always willing helpers.

Although I loved boating up the Salcha, Tanana, or Yukon rivers, stopping to do a little fishing, some visiting along the villages, and seeing fish camps with long covered smokehouses. It was the gathering, drying of plants, and preparing the fish and animals I wasn't fond of.

As a teen and young adult, I wanted to get away from all that, to try all those convenience or fast foods that weren't allowed at home. I believe it's not a surprise that I ended up with allergies and now am back at eating the right way as I did growing up.

Patricia, I agree the way we ate when young was totally different. We never had bologna or any of the "preserved" foods like that, either. Now and then Mom would get Dad a can of sardines and he would eat them right out of the can. None of the rest of us would touch them. Dad worked as a signalman on the railroad, had his own rail car to check & fix them. He would tell about being invited to eat with hobos... turtle or snake soups, ets... and we kids would carry on with "oh yucks" to his delight....

Jackie, I also searched for dandelions but not for wine, my family mixed the greens with different kinds of lettuce to make a "wilted" salad. Dad's mother was visiting one time & we were helping Mom with the food so Grandma said to me, "I use a tablespoon of vinegar to a teaspoon of sugar, is that what you do?"  I'm sure she knew I didn't have a clue. It wasn't until much later I realized that was the measure, not how much!  I never heard of pickled walnuts... the walnuts we had were the hard shelled black walnuts, but were glad to have them during the war, especially, no pecans where I grew up.

The cold front has arrived, wind blowing the trees like crazy. Kind of a misty rain. Tom went out & came right back in, but I need to get to the store. Been putting it off for several days because of the knee. I'm not going to take my "stroller"... not sure if it's called a rollator or walker or what, sure helps to hang on to & has the seat, etc. But with my little car it is a pain to get in & out so at the store I will grab a cart outside & clean it off with my Clorox Wipes hope it's okay. Yesterday I couldn't walk around the house without holding on to it but this afternoon I am being tough & hanging onto chair backs or walls.

This is day 3 for Callie to be missing. I first thought she might have gotten caught in someone's garage, she does think she owns the whole neighborhood. Chance someone caught her & trying to take care of her... she will let others touch her only if I am around, they tell me. I do think she would like to be an only cat and totally loved, so I hope if someone did capture her they will let her be happy. No idea how old she is, but she didn't seem to have any problems. These babies she gave us are 10 now. They are very different from normal cats, but I don't want any more cats! I'd rather put a leash on a dog & take out than have to lock them up like I do with the cats.

Amy, good luck with your check out/up.... I'm not sure what my problem is but noticing some  awful heavy looking veins on the calf of the leg that is sore. My gr-daughter had blood clots in her legs or leg... after testing positive for the virus. Still on heavy duty blood thinners. I have NOT been exposed to her, but did have something earlier that made me sicker than ever in my life. My doctor said not the symptoms of the virus but that was way early, before so many other symptoms showed up. Anyway, like you, I will go find out this week.

Haha, Joy, I see you were chicken about eating your own canning, too! Some things I can't do & will never try again, my ego can handle failure only only so many times!

Gloria, after seeing what I look like in that photo I'm going to cut down on so many Twinkies & DingDongs.  The weight hasn't changed in 30 years but the shape sure has. I've switched from muscles to fat & understand muscles weight more than fat & there lies the difference!

Phyllis, the last watermelon I bought was so dry it had "caverns" inside. I cut it up in bite size pieces & my great grands ate most of it. Not much flavor, but I didn't get a single one this year that was very good.

Jane, my doctor vetoed my going to the kinesiologist/chiropractor & sent me to re-hab that did no good at all. He is usually pretty open to anything I suggest but surprised me with his attitude about this guy. Is it the stretching exercises you do on the floor? I tried to stretch on the bed yesterday & that didn't work at all. I used to get on the floor all the time to exercise but been just too lazy for my own good. This is my driving leg so must fix it!

Better get to the store, not raining but temps have dropped! It is 65 now & was 69 when I woke up this morning. Wind has a bite to it & the trees have that rusty brown look to them. Looks like FALL has arrived!

Patricia, nice to see you!! My friend cans suckers and when in a sandwich ,tastes just like salmon. She also cans trout too.  When you think of what and how food was preserved/put away years ago with no freezers or electric stoves to use. The only reason I am  getting a lot done this time (for easy meals) is one never knows how things are going to be with the pandemic or health. I am going to try to can chicken and then just make some bumble berry jelly and that should be it. Running out of jars here.

Gloria, Joy and Phyllis,thank you.
I am just thankful I have Kyle's rollator to use. I am sure once the xrays and ultra sound are done one will have answers. I am not a very good patient as I would rather look after others .

I just found some of Janies zzz's and both dogs and I used some....we left some for Jane if need be. :)

It would be nice to see a lot of

And it looks like it is going to
get worse next few weeks well through

The best that I can do is to wash and
clean well and always wear a mask

It is going to be a long difficult

In the meantime I have done a bang up

Have a good week,  evryone!

Sandy, I need you!!!  Wish you could share your ambition of getting rid of excess. Guess I never got past those early years of Depression & WWII with saving every scrap of everything "because someone might need it". Ever since hearing that Red Cross lady on TV, say that "75% of clothing donations go to the landfill", I hate to take stuff to any of the thrift stores. At least at a garage sale if someone pays a dime for an item they wouldn't buy to throw away! I agree with you that life will be a turmoil until and after the election. 50% of the people will be unhappy no matter who wins.

Had a little over 2 hours sleep last night & an hour after getting back from church and breakfast in the park with 7 members of the clan. I need another nap but first will see if Tom wants to come inside. Tiger is laying on the back of the sofa where I put a fleecy cover for her. Poor Tom looks so thin & not his perky self. I think both cats miss Callie, don't think they remembered she was their mother, but they let her rule. I am surprised how much less work to keep up since she has been missing.

Hello Everyfriend!  This day is done and it's time to sleep until another one begins.

AMY, good wishes for your tests tomorrow.  I hope they find something that can be fixed right up!  It doesn't sound like it slowed you down!

SHIRLEY, all the exercises I do are designed to stretch the bones so the bulging discs won't bulge as much.  I don't remember what any of them are called but they work and that's all that matters.  Maybe your dr. has heard things about the kinesiologist in your area. I mentioned to Debra that I had told you about this service and she said, "I hope she finds a good one!"  I didn't think about it at the time but that could be an indication that some aren't all that good.  My sister went to one near where she lives and she said "She's no Debra!"  She also said she's not going back there again.  So....

I got a lot done today but it doesn't show so there's more to do tomorrow.  I'm off to the haystack to hunt for those left over zzzzzs.  I sure hope AMY left enough of them for the night!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

This Sunday came and went very quickly....it was cool and smokey out today so we did not stick our noses out the door.  Lots of football....which I could do well without😩

Yesterday afternoon we were invited to Dave and Michele's for a visit and dinner.  It was delightful to catch up with all of them and enjoy a nice meal together.   She is doing quite well with the new chemo maintenance.  She will have a couple more treatments before they do more tests to see if this lower dose is keeping the tumors under control.

We had chicken drumsticks in the air fryer for our meal today.  They were nice big ones.  I put them in some olive oil and spices and let them marinate for a couple of hours and they were delicious.  We had yellow squash with onions and potato salad.

AMY, I somehow missed that you are having issues that have caused you to have to use Kyles walker.  I hope you find out what is going on when you go to the doctor.  I just hope that it is nothing too serious.

SHIRLEY, I hope Callie Kitty is OK and has just found a spot for a short time while she is away from home.  I can believe that one less kitty makes your work a bit easier.

SANDY, I am proud of you for continuing to get rid of thinks.  I am trying, but not that successful🤪   If I had someone to take stuff I would pretty much give them anything the6 would be willing to take!

Good night, JANE.  I do hope you find plenty of zzz's to get you through the night.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

No rain yesterday and I think it will be the same today despite the weather guessers calling for some. Tis 58° F at the moment with a high of 73 °.

We did put in a lazy day yesterday, met up with friends in the morning for a bit then home to do nothing. Sleep, sit on the porch and just enjoyed the day.

I think today we are going to go on a colour tour before the rain pounds the leaves off. We had discussed going through the Park but we shall see. Not a place you want to be on a weekend as people stop and jump out of their cars anywhere to take photos of the leaves.

Jenny, good to hear Michele is doing well with her treatments..pray she keeps on that same road. Sounds like you are having fun with your air fryer and have mastered it!

Jane,I go Thur for the tests. My leg has a choice ...when I get up in the morning it can either stay in bed or come with me............thankfully it has always come with me. :2funny:

Shirley, Callie has likely found "her" spot outside for the time being and will come home. My friend had two cats and if they didn't want to be found you couldn't find them no matter how hard you looked and this was in the house!

Sandy, you are going to be a lady in demand as I too could use your help. My problem is that every scrap of fabric 2" x 2" is saved along with a lot of other pieces...but will I use them?? Really think they should all be bagged up and passed on......

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day everyone.stay safe..

Good morning everyone, feels more like mid June than the end of September this morning. Very humid and will be at least mid 70's. Rain in the forecast for late tomorrow and Wednesday and Thursday. Sure since I have to go to the dentist Wednesday morning. Just heard on the news there is now fire in the wine country in California.

PHYLLIS  I agree with you about produce this year. Other than from a farm there is one family owned market that buys local as much as they can but this year not as tasty. Even fruit and grapes that don't come from local are terrible this year. Bad weather all over, too much rain or not enough. I am with your David, beef stew is great any day.

JOY  I agree about the rollator, going anywhere the one who takes me has to take the rollator, too. I s tar ted using a cane but tha t was not  enough to help after awhile. When I moved here I was one of 3 people with one but now there are a lot of them. I am so used to it now I rather sit on it when I go anyplace. Better height for me at a table, too.

JACKIE  My Mom did a lot of canning in the hot summer days of August and not even a fan in the house. I don't know how she did it. I did a lot of it when I had all my family home, easier to freeze food.

PATRICIA  I loved cooking and not with any prepared foods, from scratch. Now I cannot stand long enough to even cook a couple of eggs. I make my oatmeal in the morning by bringing the water to a boil and adding the oatmeal, turn the heat off, cover it and set the timer. Cooks just being covered and all the heat. I sit waiting for the timer to go off in 10 minutes.

SHIRLEY  a rollator has wheels, a seat and brakes. A walker has 4 legs and some have little runners on the bottom of them or tennis balls on the legs. Looks like you jave a rollator. Use it and no hole onto walls, they will not help you hang on if your knee folds up on you. You better get you to a doctor to check that knee, could be something you cannot help. I wish I had about 25 of the pounds I lost. I don't  like being 80 pounds. I do not have enough to get sick and lose any. I for one did not think you looked fat in that photo. ou sure do not want to look like a bag of bones the way I do now. I will have the AC running later.

AMY  I enjoyed canning and when we had a freezer I froze just about every thing from the garden. Much easier and faster.

SANDY  we have  to wear a mask going out of our apartments. I did forge t a couple of times and had to come back for one. Now I keep one in a sandwich bag in  the pouch under my rollator.

JANE  I have some exersizes to stretch my back but are supposed to be done on the floor. If I got down on the floor someone would have to get me up so I do them on the bed.

JENNY I got rid of so much when I moved here. I kept some thing of sentimental value only to me.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And believe it or not, it IS a GOOD MORNING!  I went to bed last night at a little before 11 and I woke up this morning at 6:45!  I had to look twice at the clock! I couldn't believe it!

JENNY, I've been wondering about Michele.  I'm so happy to hear that she's doing well and I'm waiting anxiously to hear about the next test!  Please be sure to let us know.

I think I could use Sandy's services, too.  My plan for the winter is to eliminate half of what is in the boxes in my storage room.  Around here, no one is accepting donations at this time!  It wouldn't do much good to go through the stuff right now.  SOoooo....I'm reserving Sandy's services for the early Spring!

AMY, sorry, I thought you said you were going to the dr. today. I have to learn to pay better attention!  I hope that leg continues to get up with you.  We don't want any "lazy legs" around here!

The guy is coming today to take all my new smoke alarms down and get all new ones to put up.  I'm so frustrated with having them going off and not stopping that I probably wouldn't even believe them if my house was in flames all around me!

I think I'm going to try to inventory the freezer today.  I have a lot of stuff that I'm collected for veggie soup over the summer and I'm going to try to get it all together and get ready to make the soup later this week....maybe!  But I need to know what I have and what I might need to supplement.  And that's my plan for today.  Frankie said she might stop over for a visit.  She doesn't have to work today!  We miss it when she drops Cooper and picks him up and we don't have time for a visit!

I think I've run off at the mouth enough today so I'll stop that and get on with the chores of the day.  I hope you all have a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And PLEASE, share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when you're not around!

Good morning from a beautiful autumn day in the Interior! The only downside is my legs feeling like arthritic stilts in the morning, but that soon passes with a little activity.

I noticed that the automatic hallway lights had been on lately. I was puzzled after weeks of hall darkness until I saw the signs that anyone knowingly smoking on property, be it balcony, car, or apartment, would be levied a $150.00 fine first and an eviction second time. This property has been smokefree since 2016, and besides the virus, there are many respiratory challenged tenants living here.

I'm surprised; I shouldn't be that so many of you meal prep. I don't see that here as much, even when I was working. Back in the days of working afternoons and evening shifts and a forty-five-minute bus ride on each end, I rarely had any energy left other than a quick snack and bed. Then I found meal prepping. I could have a good breakfast in the morning and have my dinner on my afternoon or evening lunch period. It took only a few hours on my day off while cleaning and laundry, and I've never stopped.

I cooked my crook neck pumpkin today and I have enough stuff for 4 pies....  Or two pies and two cakes..... or whatever else I can think of!

I did get the freezer cleaned out and inventoried and that makes me feel good....tired but good!  And Frankie stopped for a visit, gave Cooper a bath and left him her while she made a quick trip to WM.  Then we visited and now they're both gone again.

And I managed a half hour nap in there somewhere.

Patricia, you are very organized with your prepping for meals.  That's kind of what I did when I was working.  And I always saved money by either taking my lunch with me or scooting home to eat it.  Thankfully, I only lived a 10 minute car ride from the store.

Now I'm going to see how the crock pot is doing.  Might just have a good supper here!

Hope everyfriend's day is going well!

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.

Not much to tell about today.  It was cool out this morning, so I turned on the heat!  I think there is a frost warning for tonight but we are not going to worry about trying to cover any of the plants as they are probably not going to last much longer anyway.  😩

JANE, you accomplished quite a bit today, as always!  I know you were happy to get the freezer inventoried.  Always good to know what you have in there.  Glad you had a nice visit with Frankie.  Sleep well.

Have a good evening.

Good morning everyone.  I hope I wake this early tomorrow morning, my appointment at the dentist is for 10:30. I will have to remind my son later today.

LLOYD  7 hours is a good sleep, I have been getting 7 or 8 lately and it feels good.

JANE  I am wondering if the witch is going to maybe unlock the doors down on the main floor. Got a call yesterday from her peon asking how my health is. calling everyone to find out if they had any signs of the virus and he had gotten to 95% of us so far and no one with any signs. I sure do not see many people and except for Yvette  I see family.

AMY  your temperature yesterday is what is in the forcast for here today. We had rain in the forecast for today and the next 2 days, now it is only for tomorrow with heavy rain in the morning. I better make sure I take my pills before I go out. At least the chairs at the dentist are comfortable or I would be squirming

PATRICIA  when I g  et up in the morning I grab my rollator and a bent  way over like  pretzel. Takes awhile to straiten up. At least my legs are OK.

JANE  tomorrow will be a good day to make a stew in my crock pot but doubt if I would be able to eat it after aving a tooth out.

JENNY  the last few days I ha the AC running and  2 weeks ago I had the heat on.

Hae a good day and keep safe.

Rain during the night but think it has stopped for now. Yesterday we went for our colour tour and the leaves sure didn't disappoint us. From the vibrant reds, oranges ,yellows to the milk chocolate browns of the frost bitten ferns, one can't help but be in awe of the display.

Today is clean up day after I nip into town to pick up oranges and items for my friend. They are off to Costco  and will pick up supplies there but good luck on toilet paper or paper towels as the hoarding has already started. Then hom to make a pot of beef barley soup.

Patricia, I have always bought in bulk, then put into smaller packages. Never one to buy a lot of canned items other than mushroom or tomato soup. Make a lot from scratch rather than a box mix.

Gloria, we were to get rain for most of the week. Good for the wells and lakes but will pound the leaves down. We had the a/c on in the van yesterday, more so for the dogs .

Jenny ,there does come a time when we have to just let nature take it course. Frost has yet to hit all the geraniums but they are protected by the pine tree for now.

Jane, cleaning out the freezer is a job that I have been putting off. Will have to bite the  bullet and get it done soon.

Lloyd, prayers for you and Nancy today. I could say worry won't help but it is hard not to worry about this.

Better get
Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're up and attem this morning!  Mickie has an appointment at the doggie beauty parlor this morning so we have to be ready to leave the house no later than 9:15 to be there on time.  And while she's relaxing in tender care, I'll be doing some errands in town.  Hopefully, I can get them all done before she's ready to go.

I need one more item for my veggie soup and there's only one place in the area that still has them and it's almost next door to the groomer.  My Dad, the soup expert, said "You have to have a soup bone!"  So that's where I'll head.

I have two more things to do in town and then I'm ready to come home and make green tomato chili.  I sort of hope that's the last thing I'll be making with green tomatoes.  I think this is the week to pull up the vines and settle that part of the garden for the winter.

JENNY, I not only inventoried the freezer.  I made a list of what's in there and made a copy for the kitchen and one for above the freezer so I don't have to root around wondering where it is!

This week, the temps have been great!  They've been no lower than the high 50s and low 60s overnight and on some days have reached 80 during the day.  I like this weather!

There goes our boinger so we better get breakfast and get moving so we make our appt.  Enjoy your day everyone!  Make it your own!  And don't forget to hop in to the Soda Shoppe and share it with all of us!

Cloudy and rainy here, too, with more coming this afternoon.  Cool temps. coming in for the rest of the week and I won't mind that even one little bit.

Been trying to get myself pumped up to get out to get a flu shot.  Not enthused about it at all but I know that it must be done soon.

Take care, All.

Good morning, it's 29 degrees right now, heading to a high of 56, and you can see where all the waters; rivers, ponds, and creeks are in town by the low lying mist. Leaves and their colors are fading, and many have fallen. Today is another stay at home day, and all is quiet so far.

My freezer is full of ziplock bags with colored tape for different item labels. I use a check-off system posted on the inside of the freezer door for tracking. I seem to have too much chicken, so I need to use more of that when I'm more interested in the moose.

We had rain from May through the middle of September, and the past week has been cool but sunny.  When I'm reading all your weather reports of fires, hot weather, and hurricanes, it amazes me how different we are. I'm not sure if it's prevailing winds in the upper atmosphere or if it's somehow all of a piece?

Carol, welcome back.

Patricia, must admit my choice of wild game is moose!! I would rather have it over beef. Love fish, but it needs to have the wiggle cooked out of it first.

Phyllis , for the first time I have signed up for the flu shot. With all that is running rampant I thin k a bit of protection is better than none. I was going to make your lentil soup but didn't have kielbasa so I will pick that up tomorrow and make it.

Jane, did you ever make stone soup with the Guides? We had two troops of Beavers and got together to make a stone soup. Each boy brought a vegetable and we all worked together to make this soup...and it was delicious..

Carol, hello again, nice to have you back!

Amy, I remember my stone soup days, but that was as a military dependent in Texas in the seventies. There is a cafe in town, staffed by ex-cons and people from local shelters called Stone Soup. I've never actually been in it and don't know if it's still operating in this pandemic, but I had heard good things about it. They also had a lot that they used to grow most of their own food.

I have bear, moose, caribou, wild goat, and Dall sheep in my freezer thanks to caring friends. I'm lucky enough to have freezer fallout from one as her Fish & Game husband fills theirs up again. I mention this as Dall sheep is my all-time favorite. And, as you know, the meat isn't loaded with chemicals and hormones. I have some salmon, grayling, and rainbow trout, but I'm not using as much of it as I should. I'm fortunate to live where wild game is available.

I'm ambivalent about a flu shot. I never had the flu until 1985 when I had my first flu shot during a company-wide promotion. Within a short period, I had visible chills running up and down my body, spiking temperatures, and fever. My boss was going to take me to the hospital, but I voted for home instead. I was out for six days, without pay, with severe flu. I have never had the flu before or since and that was my one and only flu shot. People have said you can't get the flu from an immunization reaction but then what did I have if not the flu?

I'd like to edit my previous post where I tell you that I'm envious of all of the options you have in Amish and Mennonite food stands and markets. We do have some regular farmer's markets here, two in summer only and one year around as well as ethnic groceries.

However, the farms that provide crop shares either through purchasing outright, working a set amount of time or by pick and pay; have gone up each year in  fees and for folks on a fixed income, over two hundred is pricy for a small share. I realize demand is high due to a poor, wet, season and I'd like to support local farms but still.

Hello CAROL.  Come on back when you can.  We like to "see" new faces.

PATRICIA, my freezer holds not just local produce but I have pheasant, elk and venison also.  And if I chose, I could have rabbit.  I said "no thank you".  When my kids were growing up my FIL, husband and son all went hunting both around here and once a year to Wyoming.  My MIL didn't like wild meat and she refused to cook it so my freezer was always full.  And when my inlaws came to dinner we frequently had venison meatloaf or venison pot roast.  She never knew what she was eating and always complimented my cooking.  My FIL just looked at me and winked!

Tonight, I had pheasant for supper.  I found one small pack in the bottom of the freezer when I cleaned it and inventoried.  So not to lose it again, I cooked it tonight.  It was delicious!

And I also cleaned my fridge today.  I know I don't do that as often as I should but it doesn't seem to get as slopped up as back when 6 of us were opening and closing it!

Tomorrow, I think I'm going to start the veggie soup.  I got my soup bone today and I think I'm ready. The canning will take some time because I expect I'll have at least 4 canners full.  And it has to be done in the pressure canner!  But cooking first!

AMY, I have made stone soup often with the Girl Scouts and with my kids and the kids at church!  What fun!  I even remember the first time I ever made it as a kid.  Also, when we went on hikes, we sometimes took along  a "pocket lunch".  Everyone would bring something to share and what fun when you stopped to eat and found that you had all kids of stuff to make sandwiches and no bread. I think that might be where I had my first bologna and cheese rollup and I still like them.  But there was always lots of potato chips and lots of candy!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  It's time to rest my weary bones.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My soup bone is cooking and we're waiting for Cooper to arrive.  I also found  recipe for green tomato salsa that I can can. So when Cooper gets here and wants to go out in the yard, I'm going to check the vines for whatever is left of the green tomatoes and start pulling up the vines.  If I have tomatoes, Frankie will get a batch of Green Tomato Salsa for Christmas this year!

When the soup bone is cooked the rest of the meat that is stored will go in with it and that's the beginning of the veggie soup and a concentrated 3 day process.  Hopefully, there will be enough soup to share with family.  They all like it!

Also have about 3 lbs of red tomatoes left to deal with.  I haven't figured out what to do with them yet but I have to do that pretty soon.

Mickey is gorgeous!  She got a bath, haircut and nails clipped and a new collar.  I decided she doesn't really need to cart around that heavy harness so now she's down to just a collar!  I think she kind of likes it, too!

I better get back to work or nothing will be accomplished.  The weather is a bit cooler after the rain yesterday.  Highs in the high 50s and low 60s and lows in the mid to low 40s.  I think it's coming!  I absolutely HATE coats!  And boots are hazardous foot wear!!

OK, I'm off to the salt mines!  Hang in there everyfriend!  Come by for a visit now and then!

Good morning. We're at 43° and overcast this morning. At 7:47, it's just beginning to lighten.

Lloyd, happy birthday to Nancy!

Jane, while I've had snowshoe hare, which is our local rabbit, I'd have to agree, very dry and not that good.

I haven't had pheasant nor venison altho since a moose is simply the largest deer, perhaps I have? The only deer in Alaska is a small one in the Southeast, Sitka black-tailed deer. I'd be interested if Amy or anyone has had both venison and moose could mention if there was a difference?

The lentil soup is on cooking...

We did go into town to pick up a few thing  and home again. We are also playing tis your turn for the rollator!  Kyle is using it today..so far my leg is doable. without it, just have to be careful how I step.

Patricia, as I said I love moose...no gamey taste at all at least to the feed I had but venison..well tis gamey and you really have to know how to cook it. Not a taste I like but moose to me is so close to beef but without the fat.

I have batten down everything that may fly in the wind and hope it finds another area to go.

We have a fire on just to take the chill out and will likely find it too hot after a bit.

Gloria....where are you? Hope the trip to the dentist went well.

Just a quick note....

PATRICIA, there's a marked difference between the flavor of our local venison (White tail deer...much smaller) and the Wyoming Mule Deer.  The mule deer is a wilder taste but one I like.  In fact, I like both!

Now, lunch is over and I'm back to clearing out the tomato vines for this year.  I think I still have one to go and my tomato harvest (both red and green) is already just about doubled.  I don't think I'll ever run out.  But I now have enough to make Frankie's green tomato salsa and I forget if I said, I found a recipe that I can can.  So I'm off to finish my job!  Enjoy the rest of your day.

Good afternoon.  it is a pretty sunny day, but cooler than it has been.  At least the sunshine makes it look warm.

I just wanted to add my little 2 cents worth about cooking venison.  Some years ago, my son  had a friend who would go deer hunting and sometimes he would give my son a deer roast.

At that time, I used to make sour beef with potato dumplings......I guess some of you might call it sauerbraten..... and I am not sure if they are the same.  It is an old, old German dish.  It was my husband's favorite meal and I would always make it for his birthday and have all his brothers and sisters for dinner, along with our own family. 3 brothers, 3 sisters
and their spouses, , and 5 in our family.  I used to make over 100 potato dumplings and my husband and his brothers would see which one could eat the most. It  made for a really fun dinner.

Anyway, one year, I decided to make up one crockpot using the venison roast.  I knew that some of the family would not eat it if they knew it was deer meat, especially one of my sons. Made it exactly the same way as I did the beef. As it turned out, the ones who did eat it thought it was better than the beef. A lot sweeter, they all thought.  So, when I was lucky enough to  get some deer meat I would use that. Haven't had any for a very long time.

We have found a restaurant in our area whose specialty is sour beef and dumplings.  And, it comes as close to mine as we have ever found. So, now when we are all hungry for it, we go to this restaurant. The only difference is I put several cubes of dried bread in the center of my dumplings and the restaurant doesn't do that.. But, the dumplings are exactly alike.  This restaurant serves 3 different sizes as an entrée, and I always get the largest size with a couple extra dumplings so that I can take leftovers home.  I am making myself hungry just thinking of it.  Now that winter is coming, it is a great winter dish.  But, probably won't go until this virus thing is over with.  Might have to go back making my own. LOL.  I don't mind making it. Isn't difficult to make,....just time consuming.  I usually marinate the meat for 2 or 3 days. And, I use the old-time ginger snaps for the gravy..

Have any of you ever made it. Lots of the German restaurants serve it with red cabbage and I don't like that.

Jane,  you just amaze me as to all the canning you do.  I guess you are like most retirees I know who don't know how they found time to work. LOL

I am reading a really good book on my Kindle and have gotten nothing done today so far.  I am just so lazy.  But, I am anxious to get back to the book.  Stopped to eat some lunch and chat a little bit on here.

Amy, sure hope your leg will get better soon.  Please be careful walking around without the walker

Gloria, hope your dentist appt. went well.  That is something on my to-do list when all this mess is over.

Happy Birthday to Nancy.  Hope she has had a nice day.

Hope all the other friends are doing well and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.

Joy

Well, the tomato garden has been put to bed.  I picked all the red and green tomatoes and pulled all the plants and cleaned up the area where they were planted.  That was harder work than I've done in a long time!  But it was also very rewarding.

JOY, I've told many people since I retired that I really don't know how I ever had time to work.  And I really don't think I could do all the fun stuff if I still had to work.   Some of your recipes sound so good!  I was just looking at one for Sauer Braten today!  I probably won't try it but I bet I've eaten it and didn't know what it was.  My grandfather was German and he cooked a lot of the old recipes but called them by American names.

SHIRLEY, tomorrow is the day I'm sharing with you!  My new great grandson, Michael, will be joining our family tomorrow.  This is the little love I heard about the day you lost your brother!  He's going to be born by Caeserian Section tomorrow morning.  EVERYFRIEND, please say a prayer for him, for his doctor and for his mother ALLISON.  I'll be back to report when I hear of his arrival!

Now, I'm off to the haystack to check out the zzzzzzs.  I sure hope there's plenty waiting for me because I'm really tired!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.
