I tell men, if you want to impress a woman don't send her flowers, send her a maid. Because if you spend $55 on a dozen roses, they're dead the next day. A maid costs about $40 and you still have $15 dollars left to get Chinese food and one rose. By the time you come over we have  cleaned, and you have food, a rose, and you.

"Swinging on a Star" - Bing Crosby

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
He kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He's got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Everyday you'll meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

Thank you for cleaning up the Soda Shoppe and bringing in all the new decorations, BUBBLE!  I like all of them but I love the advice to the gentleman friend.  She hit the nail on the head!  And you included one of my all time favorite songs.  I can be heard singing that one around the house all the time!  And it's one of the few that I know all the words.  I can still hear Bing Crosby singing it!

We've been out in the snow this already this morning.  I don't know how much is supposed to be there but I was wearing boots that come a bit above my ankles and the snow was half way up them.  I had to kick a path for Mickie.  She's a shortie but Cooper jumped over and through evrything.  And it's still coming down.  It's supposed to continue until 6 tonight and there's a 50% chance of more tomorrow!  I think we're officially "SNOWED IN"!

The only thing on my agenda for today is to clear some of the snow off the front walk and make a place for Mickie to walk into the yard to do whatever it is she won't do in the snow.  And later in the day, I have a new recipe to try!  I'm pretty sure, Frankie won't be going to work today or coming here to get Cooper.  She's a late-blooming driver and is still more than a bit nervous whe it snows and that's good.

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

AMY, the song Bubble posted is "Swingin' on a Star"  But I like "Catch a Falling Star" too! Unfortunately, I have to "da-da-dah" a lot in that one.  I forget some of the words.

Snow's up to the top of my boots now.  I guess that means I stay in the house.

Back in the fifties and sixties, January and especially February could see two weeks of minus fifty thru minus seventy weather. I once walked four miles each way to work at minus sixty-eight.

I wore silk long johns, two pairs of socks, the outer wool, two mitten pairs, one mitten with gloves over along with a neoform face mask and a hooded snowmachine suit. My glasses went into an upper pocket as they would have condensation freeze and I used bike paths anyway.

In those days schools and employment never closed. If you wanted to get paid, you showed up at work. The only time they started closing schools in cold weather was when the ice fog got so bad it was a driving hazard. All the parking lots had plugins for cars so you could keep the engine block warm.

In the late eighties and nineties, it was a little warmer. Since two thousand, we rarely see minus twenty-five or below. And if we do, it's generally only for one day here and there.

Here is a little blurb from NPR in 2014,  https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2014/02/21/280767153/forget-the-local-cold-worldwide-it-was-another-hot-january

We have had -30 weather and like you not too often in the past few years. I remember going to home ec and we couldn't wear slacks in class ,always a dress or shirt. We had to walk over a long bridge with the wind blowing. To tackle that trip we would wear slacks under our dress/skirt and then hike the legs up under our dress /skirt so the teacher couldn't see them.  Mercy that was a long cold walk from our school to the one that had home ec.

The teacher at home ec did teach us a lot, a lot that at the time we wondered why but as life opened up you recall some of her teachings. When I joined  a quilt group, a few years back ,one of the ladies there had the same last name. So I inquired if she knew this other lady........turns out it was her Mom!!  Small world..

We had the same dress code until the sixties. No pants, no jewelry unless it was small, and the boys wore slacks, and their hair couldn't touch their ears. We wore pants under our skirts or dresses and took them off when we arrived at school.

Luckily, we lived just across a vacant lot from the school and Junior high until freshman year. Unfortunately, in high school, I was just short of the distance limit for buses.

It was only after the early sixties when boys and girls weren't limited to certain classes. For example in my school, girls had home ex and boys had woodworking, and classes were segregated.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was out with the doggies and it's still snowing.  My good neighbor across the street plowed my driveway around 5 yesterday and it has as much snow now as it did when he plowed.  Also, I'm the last house on the dead end street and the plow has taken to stopping a fourth of the way before my driveway ends.  If there are two cars one has to move to let the other out or we need a strong giant to move what they leave there.

The doggies have been out and we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.  I do have to make up a batch of dog food before I can feed Mickie.  Cooper's is ready but her's isn't.

I think this will be another day in the house.  Mickie will be able to take her walks but she can never find a place to go after a snowfall.  Later, I'll try to shovel out the front and also a place in the yard for Mickie.  Cooper is tall enough to just jump around in the snow and he appears to love it.

Now I'm off to the kitchen to get the dog food started.  I wish you all a good day...not as good as yesterday but better than tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't make it here yesterday but it was a hair-pulling day.  I think I'm signed up for my Covid vaccination tomorrow afternoon but it was a confusing and stressful time getting it done.  Not the most efficient process I've ever gone through.  I hope tomorrow goes more smoothly because we have to drive clear to the other side of Raleigh to get the shot.  Not looking forward to that trip at all.  And David still hasn't gotten notice to make an appointment.  Well, I mustn't complain.  I'm just grateful to get this far along in the process.

And then, there was a mix-up with my on-line pharmacy about a duplication in prescriptions and I'm still not sure that has been straightened out or whether I am going to be charged several hundred dollars for medicine that I didn't order.  Oh, well, the medicine will get used eventually and I would have had to pay for it anyway.  I just didn't expect to pay so much all at once.

Sorry for all of you up in the NE.  What a terrible storm!  We've had a few flurries and a lot of rain and some icy roads north of us but all in all, we did very well.  I hope things ease off for all of you "up there" soon.

Amy, tell Kyle I love his joke (?) about custard's last stand.  That's the kind of humor my husband would have come up with, too.  Laughter in a marriage is a good thing, isn't it?

Take care, All.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND ✍️

Thank you, BUBBLE, for the nice February SS you have made for us.  I loved your offerings, especially the one suggesting your honey get a house cleaner for his tired honey vs flowers that will die!  Great idea😘

Thinking about you all and hoping none of you are having issues with the storms in your area!

I am looking at the "guess who" picture and I am stumped!  She sure looks like a nice lady!

Reading about not being able to wear anything but dresses back in the day sure brought back memories for me.  I, too, wore pants under my dress and had to take them off when I got to school.  Same store regarding jobs in the day....no pants allowed for the most part.  You were never allowed to come to a job and not look professional.  Now days, people all but dress in their pajamas when they go to work or get on a airplane.  Kind of sad really.  Somewhere in the middle would be just dandy.

LLOYD, thank you for sharing the info on how to keep flowers looking beautiful.  I do pretty much that when I get flowers, but have never added the bleach.  For one thing, you have to start out with FRESH flowers to begin with, and many times when I have had a delivery of flowers they are already looking a bit droopy when they arrive.

PHYLLIS, happy to read you are lined up for you Covid Vaccine, but it is unfortunate that it is so confusing to get this accomplished and that you have to drive so far to receive it.  I hope it goes smoothly for you.

PATRICIA, I sure enjoy reading all the stories you share with us.....great details about weather and temperatures!  All I can say is, I am impressed that you folks WAY up there are about to deal with those negative temps.  🥶

Guess I better get myself busy and get something done.  Sure hope we hear from Gloria, and others that have not checked in recently.

Have a good day.

Jenny

I finally got the 2nd vaccine day before yesterday, on a stormy windy day - I was fearing I would get a cold in the process.
Today I printed the Vaccine certificate to be kept in my bag when going out. I am glad it is done.
No side effect except a headache the first night.

   Way to go Bubble!!!

We are home, everything has been put away and now just enjoying a cup of tea. We got into Costco at 8 and out by 8:20 and on the way to the next store. Meet with friends exchanged items and she gave us a jar of peach, pear and ginger jam to try. We gave her Mrs B's mustard pickles to try.

All in all a good day, tiring but  everything worked out fine.

Jane, please keep your snow there...I think come the weekend we may be in for some though.

Phyliss, we have a lot of fun. He once asked me  when he was wearing shorts. (looking for a compliment) what I thought of his calves. Well, the farmer in me came out and I told him I would put them in the barn and fatten them up some. His look was priceless.

Better go see if any mail has come..

Stay safe.

Good morning from a "warmed up" Interior at minus eighteen. The winds came in last night but are due, hopefully, to leave early Wednesday morning. It's below sixty out there with the wind chill. I've seen mostly cars out there, but a few individuals in what looks to be those big green army parkas. I'm four stories up, and the street bordering the courthouse is a block over, so I have a bird's eye view.

Today will be a couch day other than a load of laundry as those chimes I've hung by the window will occasionally rattle. New weatherstripping has been on the list but apparently not an emergency with the pared-down maintenance staff.

Vaccinations for those over sixty-five started on the sixth, but I signed up on the eleventh—no word yet on my schedule other than a list confirmation. I'll be going to one of the health centers about six blocks from here. I admit to qualms as I'm not fond of needles and when I received my first and only flu shot in 1985, I ended up with two weeks of everything included flu. I wish they would come here, but this is neither a nursing home nor assisted living, so I'll go where they point me.

Amy, thanks for my morning chuckle! It sounds as if you two have fun together!

Going to be a nice day ,a bit windy but that's ok.
Not a lot on the agenda today...work inside and I do have one more eye of the round to cut up and freeze.

Still no Gloria, wonder if her computer is the problem.?

Patricia ,we do have fun , makes the day go by a lot nicer. Our clients shook their heads at us as they would say they couldn't work with their significant other. I would had Kyle what was needed for the job without him asking.

Jane, were you out making snow angels?? I saw on the news the snow in your area..oh my!!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I only have one area to left to shovel and a couple to salt and try to clear a bit more.  My neighbor across the street blew my driveway twice and it's pretty clear.  I threw salt on the front steps and walk where Mickie and I have to go up and down and every time we go out, I enlarge here "go space" a little.  It was a busy day yesterday.  Frankie did get here to pick up Cooper and then we got a little more snow later in the day.  Different!

I like the jokes and they do make the day go better!

I got wrapped up in the "ROOTS" marathon yesterday and I stayed up until 12:30 to see the end of it!  That was an excellent movie.  I read the book and when the did the show, I almost didn't watch it until I saw Alex Hailey say that he he would be on the staff for adapting it to TV and that they had promised to follow the book.  It was very well done.

The boinger just went off so I better go feed Mickie....me too.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Amy, Tom and I had that kind of marriage, too.  A co-worker of Tom's once said that, outside of work, he never saw Tom without me.  Tom said that was kind of why we got married...so we could be together.

I'm missing Shirley, Gloria, and Joy, too.  Hoping so much that they are OK.  I also hope that they know we are thinking of them and wishing them well.

Thanks, Bubble, for telling us about the vaccine shot.  You, too, Jenny.  I'm a little nervous about it but I know it needs to be done and will be glad to get it over with.  Patricia, David put his name on the sign-up list, too, but hasn't heard anything about an appointment yet.  Here in our county the supply is low and he is 68 so low on the priority list.  Eventually he will get a call.  Because of my age and a couple of underlying conditions I was placed higher on the priority list, I think.  I wish I could give him my place since he is the one who has to be out and about more than I do.

Jane, take it easy with that snow shovel.  As long as Mickie has her little spot that's all you need to worry about.  You have good neighbors but I am sure you are a good neighbor, too.

Take care, All.

Well, here I am, talking to myself again!  I guess it's safe to turn off the lights and unplug the coffee pot and turn the heat off under the water for tea since there's no one to drink it.  I'm thinking I'll put the last of the Christmas cookies and candy in the Hidey Hole tomorrow but if no one comes in to eat them they might get sticky, mooshy or stale.

I'm off to the haystack for now.  Cooper will be here early tomorrow morning if Frankie gets herself on move early enough to drop him off.  So we'll have to be up and attem early tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm still around, Jane, with a message from Gloria's daughter... when/if I hear any more I'll let y'all know.  From her daughter:

"Would you please let everyone know that mom is very sick and will probably be in hospital for a time and then to a nursing home. She cannot stay by herself anymore. No more info than that for awhile. Thank you
Regina"

Hi, Lloyd. My husband's co-pay was higher with the VA than what he could get at Walmart with the "up to 80% off cards" that you get in the mail. I don't remember the names of the cards but they really do work. I take an antibiotic about every two years and it is a lot cheaper with the card.

Good morning..

I am so sad to read of Gloria's news. I too pray she will soon be out of the hospital and where she will be taken care of.

Need to pick up ink for the printer this morning. Phone order in  knock on door or phone seems to be the protocol of many stores now.

Jane, yes Gloria is a fighter thank goodness, made my heart sink reading this news. I am trying a new recipe tonight. David said they had it an d really enjoyed it.. We have not had eggplant before but will give this a try and let you know if it is a keeper or not.

Phyllis, love Tom's response! We are always together, more so now.

Better get moving along.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning everyone. well I am going to make jalapeno  casserole for evening Meal. I cook three cups of rice mix in a can of mushroom soup and sour cream. put a layer of that in the bottom of the baking dish 8 x 10 spared chopped cheddar cheese over that and alternate a bite size piece of ham or cooked stake
and slice of jalapeno and spread chopped cheddar over the top and bake in oven until the cheese is melted and slightly browned. enjoy.

our prayers are with Gloria.

I was so happy to see Shirley's face pop up but then so sad when I read her message from Gloria's daughter.  What unhappy news and I'm praying for Gloria to get better soon.

All went well with my first vaccine shot yesterday.  It wasn't at all crowded, to my surprise, and everyone was so helpful.  They even took me in earlier than my appointment was supposed to be.  And the nurse who gave the shot was so nice.  She was a delight. The worst part of the whole experience was the Raleigh traffic going and coming but we made it with no trouble.  My arm was sore last night but I took some Tylenol and slept very well.  Now, I have to go through the process to make an appointment for the second shot.

Your casserole sounds good, Lloyd, and I would have loved it but no longer.  I can't seem to tolerate the spicy food much anymore.  But, I hope you and Nancy enjoyed it.

Take care, All.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm happy to hear that the shots are not having any bad side effects.  Next week at the end of Wednesday the 11th, I'll have had my first shot.

Today is cooking day!  I put chicken in the crock pot overnight to make to mix with the dog food.  I have enough for 2 recipes in the freezer (that's a little more than a weeks worth of feedings).  I also have enough to make a pot of chicken corn soup for me.  That will be tomorrow.  Today I'll finish off the Potato soup from yesterday.  For supper, I have my cranberry chicken in the crockpot.  This is one of my easiest and favorite meals.  I do an envelope of Uncle Ben's Instant Brown rice to go with it and I have a meal I love that's ready when I am.  And I still have a pack of chicken in the freezer for stir fry some day when I'm hungry for it.

I'm praying that GLORIA is feeling better today and even better tomorrow.  I hope she's resting comfortably!

The dogs have finished their begging and have conked out for a bit of a nap.  Maybe I'll follow suit!

I hope you are all having a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I've taken to doing it without a recipe these days.  I'll look it up so you can get started right.  I remember the sauce but I forget how much chicken.  I just put in what I think "looks" right.

I am just checking in as it has been a while.  I am still dealing with the anxiety issues.  But, today I am feeling a lot better.  Just over night.  I don't have the shortness of breath  or having to breathe hard.  I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow so will see what they say. The medicine was taking a long time to kick in, and I guess that ia what has happened.  Don't feel as shaky, either.

I have not been on the computer for a while.  Hopefullyn I ambetter and will be ablew to join you all again soon.

Good morning from an Interior at minus nine, and that awful wind with the horrid windchill has blown itself out for now. Nothing on today's agenda but groceries and bills via bus and taxi.

I was so very sorry to hear about Gloria! She is one of those who became a friend and was both kind and helpful when I started in 2000. She was very active in Cardmakers along with Bubble, Phyllis, and I and she had a very feminine style. We did a lot together in both outside classes and PSP and forums from SeniorNet to here.

Those were very heady days, discovering new friends from all over the world, the vast Internet, and the joys of PSP.

Joy, I'm so glad to see from your post that you're feeling better! I hope your appointment goes well and that you continue to feel better more each day. We've missed your posts!

Jane, I also would like your recipe. I have a dried pound of cranberries and two pounds of dried cherries that could use some recipes!

Good Afternoon,

I'm so sorry to learn about Gloria.  Hope all goes well for her recovery and move.

Good to see you, Joy.
You, also, Shirley.
Onward and Upward, dear friends  :smitten:

Miss Emily came for dinner last night and I caught up with all her "busy-ness". Work is going well and she is managing some social life - in spite of the restrictions.

While she was here, Sir Carson popped in.  Apparently, he was coming into town with a friend (never did quite understand why they "had" to come to this Lowe's) and he/sister had arranged for him to pick up some mail sent to their parents' house.  Friend didn't come in so it was a quick chat but all is going well with him, too.
His social life seems to have picked up considerably; he had plans with two girls for the weekend (separately!!).  ;D

Plan du Jour is to do laundry and catch up on desk work.  One is done and I'm working on the other one.

Hope Everyfriend finds something to enjoy about today.

Feeling sad after reading your post SHIRLEY, regarding Our Gloria.  She is one very important lady to us and we all hope and pray she will get well and be able to join in once again!  I am counting on her!  I wish we knew more about what happened.  🙏🙏🙏🙏

Our number of participants is sadly dwindling and we can't seem to get many new ones to come in and join us. I sure wish I knew someone to invite in.

CALLIE, how nice to have a visit with two of your grands.

PATRICIA, I hope your outing went well for you today and you managed to get everything done while you were out and about.  Our storm kind of petered out on us.  Had a bit of snow over night, but it is long gone now and the sun was a nice surprise this morning.

So good to read your post JOY.  I am sorry you have been having a rough time, but your post looks encouraging and we all hope you will keep feeling stronger each day🙏

JANE, over all I am hearing very few side effects if any from most of the folks that I know that have received their Covid Vaccine.  I hope you get your soon.  I know you are scheduled!

LLOYD, I asked you a question awhile back and you never answered.....now I can't remember what it was!

AMY and PHYLLIS, Bob and I share your "together" story.....I believe we are indeed joined at the hip and very happy about it.  We have been very blessed to have a nice long time together since he retired nearly 24.3  years ago🙀  It is had to believe this🥳

Guess I had best get back to work....this day is passing much too quickly.

Have a good day.

Well, I'm back from groceries and bill paying, two of my most unfavored activities!

First, you have to walk four blocks to the bus station and wait outside in minus 16 for the bus that's going in your direction. It is a full-sized bus but only eight passengers due to social distancing. The bus was ten minutes late due to rear wheel issues, and they brought in a relief bus. While waiting to step down the curb to cross the street, Some idiot came by towing a skier who swung wide on the turn and almost broadsided me!

When I finally got into the store, I realized I had forgotten my friend's card passcode, so I had to call her and write it down. While wheeling thru the aisles, I noticed quite a few items were missing, and there were limits on certain items that weren't there before. Kitty litter was low and on limits; what's up with that? And coffee only came in decaffeinated and medium, no black or dark available! Rationing has come late to our city!

I had three separate sections, mine, my friend's food items, and her non-food items up at the register. I'm on the list for her, but it wasn't something I wanted to broadcast, and of course, the line behind me was crowded and long due to six feet of social distancing.  And yes, during that, I needed to use three separate cards and there were some loud grumbles in my line. After wheeling two full carts to a quiet corner, I waited just shy of twenty minutes to get thru to a taxi dispatcher and an hour's wait time for my cab.

The taxi driver was very nice, piled on my bags for me, assisted me up into the truck cab, and, upon arrival, helped me with the cart, piled the bags on the cart, and pushed it up the walk and into the building for me! The only bright spot in my day!

I went to my friend's, delivered her groceries, and discovered my toilet base leaking upon arriving home. I called their answering service and waited for someone to show up. While I was doing that while putting away groceries, a frozen package of butter fell out of the freezer door and landed on my right foot!

I certainly would like to know which entity I upset so I could make amends and have a brighter tomorrow!   :(  :'(  :buck2:

This day is over and it was a pretty good one!  Sorry about that, PATRIciA! When I have a day like yours, I just say a general prayer in my mind asking for help and forgiveness from anyone I offended!  I hope tomorrow is better for you!

My Cranberry Chicken was delicious and I have enough for about 6 meals but it freezes well and when I get tired of eating it, I'll just freeze the rest in meal size portions.  When I'm finished here, I'll email you the recipe, PATRICIA but it doesn't use cranberries, it uses cranberry sauce and you can use the regular or the one with whole berries in it.  That's part of what makes the sauce that the chicken cooks in.

I got some laundry done today too and tomorrow will be another day of more laundry.

I have to be up and attem early tomorrow for Cooper's arrival.  That is, if Frankie gets up early enough to bring him by.  We shall see.

I'm off to the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Later on today will be dancing in the daylight with Mr Snow blower. First I am heading into town to pick up milk and some of the fixings for Janes cranberry chicken!

Patricia, what a day you had!!Hope today is a better day for you. Did you end up with a bruise on your foot? I have heard of butter fingers but not butter foot.  ;D

Jenny, Kyle has been retired about the same length. Then he started up our business and we had that 15 years till health interrupted it.

Callie, sound like you have a fantastic visit with the grands. Nice to catch up on what is happening with them.

Gloria, prayers and good healing thoughts going your way. You are missed!

Better get a move on, want to be at the store for 7 am....ol folks time to shop :)

Back from shopping...it is not nice out there and getting worse. Not much sense in starting on the snow till it peters out. Got in and out in under 15 min and the store is not busy at that hour. The new owners have done a complete make over , finding item now is like a hide and go seek game.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm typing right after putting drops in my eyes so please forgive any errors.  We had a bit of snow overnight, too.  It was cold enough for it to lay on most surfaces.  The roads are clear but everything else...grass, old snow, driveways, roofs...all have a new cover.

I might have been mixed up about when Cooper would be coming over.  He's not here yet and Frankie hasn't texted that he's not coming.  Seems to me she might have said that she has a later shift today.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I washed towels yesterday.  After Frankie gave Cooper a bath and I kept grabbing towels to dry the snow off the doggies when they came in, I was running low.  And since I was in "wash" mode, I threw in a load of dark stuff early this morning.  It's in the dryer right now and I just might do a load of light stuff, too.

As for the  snow on the driveway, it's not deep and I plan to just ignore it an hope it goes away!

Wonder what I'll do with the rest of the day?  I wish you all a good one....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  (That wish is aimed at everyone in general but especially aimed at you, PATRICIA!  Today HAS to be better!

No new message from Gloria's daughter so keep praying!  This is our last day of "reasonable" weather, the weather guessers calling for bitter cold for all next week. All we can do is hope the wind isn't as bad as yesterday or we will be in BIG trouble.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for February 1, 2021

Good morning. It's minus 34 presently, and we are to remain in the minus thirties and minus twenties until the tenth or eleventh of next week. At least there is no longer any wind, which makes it bearable, and not actually needing to go out for some weeks makes it even more bearable!   The only reminder of yesterday is a slight bruising on my toes.

The maintenance man did show up and fixed something with the grout around the toilet base, so that's done.

Amy and Jane, thanks for the morning chuckles and commiseration. Today will be as Callie, always says, a couch potato day. Yesterday I purchased a bag of frozen grapes, so sometime today, I'm going to be feeling quite decadent.  :smitten:

Jane, thank you so much for the recipe, and I did find this one on turning dried cranberries into a sauce,  https://delightedbaking.com/cranberry-sauce-with-dried-cranberries/

I brought a family size chicken package yesterday and another beef roast to make more of Tome's wonderful brown sugar recipe, so I'm set. I might even see if the cranberries sauce recipe can be tweaked for cherries.

Shirley, I'm going with no news is good news with Gloria right now. It all came on so suddenly.

It is so good to see you here, Shirley.  Thanks for letting us know about Gloria.  I would like to know how she is doing but in this case, as Patricia said before me, no news is good news.

That Kansas wind will go right through you.  Try to stay warm and safe.

I'm still trying to make an appointment for my second vaccine shot.  No luck yet but will keep trying.  The wheels of bureaucracy grind VERY slowly.

Take care, All.

Good afternoon.
Shirley, our weather forecast is the same..."high" temperature not to go above freezing and wind chills below zero for about 8 days.

Patricia, I'd think you're sharing your weather but map looks as if it's coming down from east of you.

I've put in a grocery order to be delivered this afternoon so I should be able to be a Recliner Radish next week (can't stretch out on my love seat and don't need the carbs to be a couch potato)  :D.

Am concerned about my car battery, though. I rarely drive more than a mile from my house anyway and sure don't want to sit in the driveway to let the motor run during the cold weather...or any time, really.

Oh well, Onward and upward.

Well, washing the towels last night led to washing all the dirty stuff today and it's all folded and put away now (except for the one sock lying on the dresser waiting for it's mate and the one in my pocket seeking a mate).  They'll meet when I go in there to go to bed.

I had more of the Cranberry Chicken for supper...thanks for the recipe for turning cranberries into sauce.  I don't know  if I'm ambitious enough to try that but I did save it.

I'm off to the haystack in a little bit and I sure hope it's loaded with zzzzs.  I slept pretty good last night...only woke up once for my night time trot and right back to sleep.  It felt good!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Got a message from Gloria's daughter so going to post the whole thing. I know the "witch" has not been a sweet little old guard the last couple years, but do hope she will be where ever she can have a computer handy. Here's the news and then maybe we can think of a way to keep in touch with her.... We have rain/snow & ice north & south of us and looks like a miserable week ahead...BUT, spring is not far away.

From Gloria's daughter: Mom is not doing well. She had a tooth removed which she was given antibiotics. After the course of antibiotics the hole became infected. They gave her another round of antibiotics, which killed all the good  things in her intestines. The bad critters in her intestines took over. Going into the bloodstream. In a way poisoning her.
She couldn't/ won't eat ... made her really weak. Not able to walk and fell two times. Admitted to hosp and she still won't eat doesn't like the food, never say mom wasn't stubborn!
Long story short, she will have to go to a nursing home. Where I will not have much contact with her... no Skype to talk to her. Phone calls only. She hates talking on phone so my calls will have to be very short, no visitors, she will not be happy.
Pretty much a downer e-mail but it is what is happening.
You are up to date as much as I am.

Jane & Amy, I was thinking about snail mail but sounds like she will be kinda mobile for a while, between hospital, rehab or care place. I will ask Regina to ask her if she feels like talking. She may be super sleepy if they are trying to calm her down (smile).... She may clobber me when she gets hold of a computer, with my teasing.  Probably, if we could get one of her sons' snail mail they could deliver to her for us???  We don't  want Gloria to give up hope since nobody can visit.

Does she have a laptop or access to a computer? Is she strong enough at this time to be able to sit up and use a computer? It sounds as if she is frail. I had her old address when she was at her son's, but I know that it's no longer viable even if I find it. It sounds as if she'll be doing a lot of restful sleeping.

I read the bad news about Gloria, and I know from experience,  what a terrible illness it is.   What she has is antibiotic induced colitis, caused by clostridium difficile, better know as C-diff

Please Google  C-diff,  and you can read about it, see the symptoms, and see how common and dangerous it is, and how difficult it is to treat, especially for older people.  There are dozens of websites to look at online, like Mayo Clinic, and many other reputable sites.

I had it when I was in my early 70's, and was in the hospital for two weeks.  I had allergic reaction to the best of the two med's that were prescribed at that time - so had to have Flagyl, in my IV to try to get rid of it.    Long story short, I got well, but recuperation period seemed endless.  Once it's in your system you are vulnerable forever more.  I was advised to NEVER take antibiotics again, except in an emergency, when I could be monitored.  I have taken an antibiotic a couple of times since, and been okay, but I'm always on alert.  There are times when you must take an antibiotic, such as a UTI,  so the fear is always there.

The main thing that Gloria must do for herself, is to eat!  It's extremely difficult to eat when you have C-diff, because you're so sick - but if you don't eat, you are liable to get secondary colon problems that will require surgery.  I'm sure she is trying her best to eat, and has been told how important it is.

So disturbing to read about Gloria.

Her daughter's letter says she will have to go to a nursing home which sounds to me as if it's not yet happening.
Since it sounds as if she's very weak, and doesn't like to talk on the phone anyway, it might be best to stick to snail-mail.
However, I'd be very cautious about posting an address here for privacy reasons.

Marilyne, what you had sounds like what a friend of mine in Florida had as a reaction to meds for a UTI.  She was hospitalized for about 3 weeks and doesn't remember a thing about the first 10 days.  She's still recovering and has to have p.t. and occupational therapy.

Joy, great to see you and hope your bp behaves from here on in.

Patricia, after reading what you wrote I gave my history a combing through and we are also all retired!!

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings..
Yesterday a couple drove in and handed my husband a dozen eggs from these hens.   tinyurl.com/1glmzaqw

Today while going through the drive through at Tims' our order was paid for by the person in front of us.  Came home and went to the neighbours to clip the dogs  nails and told her the story. She thought , like us it was a very kind gesture and I said yes it was.......tell your hubby I am going shopping next!! We both had a chuckle over that and I said thank you again.

Did get laundry done and hung out..sheets dried  in no time with the high winds..or maybe they were freeze dried???

Callie, there is no way I would put any information on the internet.....too many weirdos out there.. I did get a card sent out and told her how much we miss her but think waiting to hear from her family on how to contact her would be better.

Better go hold hands with the pup......he lays on his (allowed) couch and puts his paw out to hold my hand.. romance is still going strong in this ol world :))

Good Night everyone. we had a easy day. Our daughter Is Tapping trees, mainly walnut, But others also, and getting the sap and Making syrup, also drinking it. I tasted It not bad, but i will get our water easier. the syrup is good on pancakes, lot cheaper than at the store. just a little cook time. the tamp needs to be above freezing to draw good. above freezing and it really runs out fate at least 4 galleons per hour. you do not do a roiling boil just at a steam level on heat. good night and sweet dreams. hope to see you all tomorrow,

Hello my friends!  Been busy today but stopped a lot to think about Gloria.  When I mentioned getting and address, I was thinking of getting her address when she settles in a care home.  I have her home address but if she's not there, no one is there.  However, when she's out of the hospital and in a care facility, no one will be able to visit her and she'll probably appreciate cards.  I hope if anyone gets that address, they will share it with the rest of us.  I can't think of another way to share our feelings with someone who will need it.

JOY, I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling better!  Keep moving in that direction.  We need everyone to feel good!

HI CALLIE, LLOYD, MARILYNE, AMY, SHIRLEY...

I got the bed stripped, washed and remade today and not much else accomplished.  I hope I do better tomorrow.

Right now, I'm off to the haystack.  I'm so sleepy, that my eyes won't stay open and I think we might have Cooper coming at the crack of dawn (or a bit before it cracks).  So I better get going.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Thank you, MARILYN for sharing your experience with c-diff. I am aware of this and it is very scary.  Sure happy to read you got through it but not without a lot of concern.

WOW AMY, sounds like you are getting a payback for being so kind to others! How nice to have your order paid for.  Lucky you two getting the colorful eggs.  I bet they will taste a special as they look😘 I had to smile at the comment about the pup wanting you to hold his hand....how sweet!

JOY, I do hope you can get your bp under control.  Glad your son got you one of the meters to test it yourself and keep on top of it.

I wish you all a good night of rest and special prayers for Gloria.

Jenny

I just sent Gloria's daughter e-mail asking her to ask Gloria if she felt like talking if we take turns calling, that we wouldn't post the number or maybe an address to one of the sons to deliver when they go visit through the window. I'm like you, think she would appreciate cards or letters.

It is bitter cold here as well, Lloyd, only a little snow on the ground. Had some neighbors come over just before dark & wore out the snow behind MY house. They did this the last snow & I didn't get to slide down the hill once....sniff-sniff....

Gotta get ready to go to church, my daughter is in town. By the time I bundle up I will have trouble getting behind the steering wheel.... Have a Super-Sunday~

Good morning.

Woke to a light dusting of snow..not sure if any more will join it today.

A day of rest here..would like to sew a bit later on today.

Lloyd, I have heard of tapping maple and birch but never walnut. Is it as sweet as the maple?

Shirley, we have LOTS of snow and hills here if you want to fly down the hill.

Jenny, if I don't reach out for his paw, he will reach out to me and he curls his paw to draw your hand to him!!

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

It's a cold rainy day here.  I've been worrying about Gloria so much.  I thought I had her email address but I don't.  I lost so much when my old computer crashed.  I would like to send a get well card to her by snail mail but I don't have her home address and, as someone said, she's not there anyway.  I don't know if one of her sons is picking up her mail or not.  It may be that he is not allowed into her apartment because of Covid restrictions.  Everything is so confused these days.  I'll just keep praying for her quick recovery and that she will be able to leave the hospital soon.

Marilyne, my husband was diagnosed with C-diff after he was taken to the hospital with a first diagnosis of Pneumonia.  Everyone who entered his room had to put on disposable masks and gowns, including doctors, nurses, visitors, etc.  It is scary stuff.  As it turned out he didn't have either C-diff or pneumonia and they never really figured out what was wrong with him.  The final cause of death was Alzheimer's/Dementia.

After many tries I finally was able to schedule my appointment for my second vaccination shot on March 1st.  I'll be very glad to get this whole process over with.  My son has still not had a reply to his request for an appointment for his first shot.  I worry about him since he is the one who has to be out in public contact but he says he is careful and he is feeling just fine.

Take care, All.  Stay safe.

So far, I don't think today will be any more productive than yesterday.  IT's snowing again today and the plow has already been down my street and reblocked a quarter of my driveway.

Cooper didn't make it again today.  Frankie had to be at work at 6 a.m. and she just didn't have time to bring him by.  Her boyfriend will go by there and look after him today.  Nice that he's off today.

I have Chicken corn soup cooking today and my plan is to clean out the fridge and reorganize the freezer section.  I hate having to move everything to find what I want.  I'm also going to measure the front window for blinds and then I'm going to buy them and coerce my kids into hanging them.  If I want to watch something in the middle of the day, the sun is so bright that I have to wear a hat to keep it out of my eyes.  It's nice to have the sun to melt the snow and ice but I sure don't need it directly in my eyes.

I'm still praying for Gloria but with what Marilyne told us, I increased the concern.  It doesn't sound good but if Marilyne is an example, there's hope!

I better get busy or it will be another "nothing" day around here.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from an Interior at minus 21. Evidently, we will be back to minus twenties and minus thirties until the middle of this month. However, we've consistently been warmer or colder than promised, so who really knows? I've been doing more cooking and freezing and my freezer is also full. I need to do less freezing and more eating, especially in this colder weather!

Last winter, I had entirely re-arranged my kitchen, and now I'm going to try something different. I already have the collection of containers from that past time, and Saturday brought my four interconnecting wire shelves from Amazon. So, that will be this afternoon's project.

My next project will be containers for my refrigerator and freezer next spring or summer. First, I need to use up what I have so it isn't a project of shoving something in anywhere there's room. My goal is an organized freezer instead of a veritable sea of frozen baggies shoved hither and yon. Sometime in there, I plan to tackle my bottom pot drawers.

Good evening everyone from the snowy rocky
coast of Maine.   It  has been
spitting snow most of the day...
not a big storm,  just letting us
know that this is the middle of Feb
when we usually get a lot of snow
and cold weather.

I had my yearly check up with
my cardiologist and she has
change my meds  a bit.   No big
deal just a change that needed to be.

What she did do,  was to put
me on a low sodium diet...

Well, I have just gone
through all of the food that
I have stored up because of Covid,
and have called my daughter Erin
to come pick it up .   Lots and lots of
Amy's soups  and other things that
I am sure that she will eat...

which leave my cupboards almost bar..
so I have to stock up on low
sodium food,  which is not my favorite,
but it is what I will now have to get 'use
to eating...

Oh what the heck ...  time for a change I
guess... and after this week,  as I eat down
my freezer and refrigerator foods,  it will
be low sodium for me from now  on.

I bet my body will like that,  even if I
don't.

Have a good evening everyone .

Sandy

Another day when jobs just poked up their ugly heads and demanded attention.  I did try to track down some blinds but I got so frustrated because I couldn't really tell what they looked like or how they would fit that I just left the computer and gave up.  I think I must be a creature of my time.  Back in the "olden days" I'd have gone to the 4 or 5 places within driving or walking distance of my house, checked out what they had to offer, asked a bunch of questions and come home with what I liked and knew would fit.  And I'd probably have put them up myself.  Now, you have to go on line and there are about a thousand to look at and you can't really tell how they work or if the actually look like the pictures and the words that describe them are incomprehensive.  And there's no nice person to ask, "what does that mean and how does it work".  And also, back in the "olden days" they'd have had one of each installed in a display so they could actually show me how they work.  One more time when I guess I'm getting old!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  I'm tired and ready to sleep.  And I sure hope I can do that!  I wish you all a pleasant night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

GLORIA, God be with you!

Good morning..

A light dusting of snow with more to follow on Tue. A trip to the lumber store  and then later on we will take our garbage away when the dump opens. Nothing else on the agenda ,just let the day unfold as it may.

Mycheal, just think how pretty everything looks with your new snow!! Dress warm if you're heading out...that is a tad chilly!!

Jane, what about sewing up some curtains, would that solve your problem?

Sandy, spices will now take up where salt has left off.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The sun is shining and I have to enjoy it today because the rest of the week's weather "stinks".  Snow, sleet, clouds, temps in the single digits....whatever the winter can throw our way is coming.  I pine for April!

AMY, it's not "curtains" I'm looking for.  It's blinds.  The afternoon sun goes East to west and comes in my front windows most of the afternoon.  If I want to read, it's great!  If I want to watch something on TV or sleep on the sofa, it's blinding!  I want wood window blinds like my daughter has in her house but the people who installed them went out of business.  And I just can't tell what they look like on line.  I'm an "in-person" shopper and that's not being done right now.

I have to make a trip to Davy's (the Mennonite Store) sometime this week and they're closed today.  So I'm going to have to play it by sight and go when the snow isn't here.  I have my list ready to run.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Ah, Amy, spices never made up for potato chips & finger lickin' good salty fingers!  When Cas first had his by-passes about 30 years ago we went on the no salt diet until his doctor told me "low salt" was okay. I have every flavor of Mrs.Dash & rows of the seasonings to shake on meat, fish, veggies, etc. (even your fingers if you want to lick them). I am more addicted to salt than chocolate.... SO, Sandy, my deep sympathy (and admiration, if you can stick to it). My sons both give me a hard time out camping about salting my eggs at breakfast, etc. I even give Mrs.Dash a good shake in tomato juice and we know how salty the commercial tomato juice is. I tell them about June having to take salt tablets & then infusions of salt... still have the print of why we need salt <smile..my defense>. I try to limit myself.

Right now at almost 10:00 am it is 11° but feels like 1° ...drizzle, freezing rain, sleet & snow for most of the day. Now I do know the difference between snow & the other moisture, but do not see any difference in the rest that has to be scrapped off windshields, is there???  The trees down by the river are all frosty looking, pretty, but if those branches don't melt off before winds pick up, we will have lots of limbs breaking. Most schools closed & plans for the day with my daughter changed. So far this visit hasn't gone as she planned, but kind of what we expect for this time of the year, right?!

Mycheal, I would love a deep enough snow to get out with my snownut before everyone else wears my snow out!  IF ever it snows enough & I can find someone to hold the camera I will get a video of this 86 year old kid sailing down the hill on a Flexible Flyer SnoNut & get one of my sons to put it on uTube with a link for y'all.  Haha... wrapped up like I do, can't tell who I am!

Jane, many years ago when the kids were little, I bought room darkning blinds, white sort of oilcloth looking with aluminum foil inside, that could mount inside the sill or on the facings. Inside didn't allow any streaks of light to show through. Really efficient. For the living room & family rooms that had floor to ceiling drapes, I ordered the "thermo" drapes from Penney's & did hang them myself (back then we could do anything ourselves, couldn't we?) The shades were cut to fit by K-Mart, the dimestores... free to MY measurements so I had to be careful about measuring & to buy the right hangers. Good luck with your project. Your bright streak sounds like what Cas saw after his cateract surgery, he didn't have the 2nd one done.

Checked mail and a message from Gloria's daughter. I'll post her suggestion/advice but anyone wanting her snail-mail address, please send me an e-mail so I can reply with it & not screw up! From Regina: "Semi good news. Mom will be transferred to a rehab facility very soon. Talked to her yesterday and sounds like my Mom again. She seems to be ok with that as long as she gets out of the hosp and their very distasteful food! That's mom!!
Mom doesn't like talking in the phone very much. Only two people she said she could talk on the phone with, a sister in law, who is no longer with us, and me. So calls are out of the question. But to send cards that would be welcome(that's me talking not mom!) The cards can be sent to:
Gloria Zifchock.... "  e-mail ME for the address!!!!

Good Afternoon from the cold and sunny,
rocky coast of Maine...

Gloria,  I hope that you are feeling
better sooner and can get back to living
as you wish,  faster.

"Sandy, spices will now take up where salt has left off."  (Amy)

I had stopped using table salt a long time ago,
but ignored the sodium content on packages..
and cans.     So they all have to go.

My daughter Erin is going to come and pick
them up  and get them out of my sight...
I will get my low sodium groceries Friday...

What a job..  Reading labels tells it all,
so now for a few way of eating.

I am ready for it.     At 77 I really have
no choice if I choose to help myself
become a very old lady  !!!

Today I cooked up in my rice cooker,  some brown
rice,  quinoa,  Jasmin Rice and Barley.   ( couple
of cups of each )   all of which have very very very
low sodium,  if any)

I also sent for a KNOC small slow cook ( 2 quart)
cooker.    (Great for 1 person) ..   ME!

Reading the labels is a real mind opener...
and habit changer for me.      I should have
known better !!   I will try out Mrs Dash
and other low sodium condiments.

Sandy, I went thru that in November and December due to my allergies, and yes, it takes effort, and it takes time. I feel so much better, even if my spices can only be the whole ones that I grate in my extra coffee bean grater. I am lucky that this area has so many farms and local foods available that use little or no chemicals.

I eat game meat, chicken, beef and pork, local eggs and vegetables, and fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables. First, I soak the fresh in a solution of one part apple cider vinegar to two parts water and then rinse very well. No convenience, processed, microwavable, or fake foods. The good news is that I haven't had an attack since November other than a small incident with commercial peanut butter.

Our situations aren't precisely the same, but I also traded food with friends, changed my methods, and have a list of dangerous additives I look out for  while shopping. I limit my salt intake but have discovered many seasonings and tastes that were previously hidden under that heavy-handed salt shaker. Tomatoes and other vegetables have a fresh taste that is surprisingly good on their own.

I am convinced that I am going to feel better
too..... power of positive thinking hopefully
will come through..

A cold blast from the Arctic Interior

LISTEN: Sure, Alaska, it's cold. But these chilly days are becoming scarcer
By Casey Grove, Alaska Public Media - Anchorage -February 9, 2021

Even in the face of continued climate warming — as many Alaskans have pointed out the past few days — Alaska can still get cold.

That's as temperatures have dipped to colder than 40 below in parts of the Interior and windchills down to 70, 80 and even 90 below in some places.

National Weather Service climate researcher Brian Brettschneider, back for our Ask a Climatologist segment, says such frigid temperatures have become rarer in recent times but he admits that, even if it's just a handful of days, that's still pretty cold.

Hello my friends!  Today was not a usual day!  After two very normal walks, Mickie bagan to favor her injured leg to the point where she would not even put it on the floor and when I tried to check her out she whimpered.  We mad a trip to the vet just to be sure that she had not broken a bone (she didn't) but the vet thought she might have twisted it and made it sore again.  So she's back on medication until it feels better.  Since she tries to follow me everywhere I go, I was practically tied to the chair with her tight up against me.

After carrying her up and down the porch steps and into the car to go to the vet and into the vets office and back to the car and then in the house, I'm worn out.  I'm sure glad I didn't favor a big dog when I was shopping!  Now we're ready for the haystack.  So I bid you all GOOD NIGHT!  And I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, no-snow tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Didn't get the pies made so that may be what could get done after I take hubby to the lumber store.

Jane, you have what my friend calls a velcro dog.....sticks right tight to you. Hope she and you feel better this morning.

Patricia, oh my keep the -40° there please. We have had -30 in the past but rather not enjoy it again . :)

Sandy, try the garlic on popcorn.....yummy!!

Gloria, good morning if you get a chance to peek in.

Better get ready to go out..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept like a log last night.  I only woke up enough a couple times to make sure Mickie was in a safe spot.  We've done everything we had to do this morning and we have Cooper for the day.  Mickie made her own way down the steps and then back up after she took care of business.  She's still limping a bit but I think her leg is feeling a bit better this morning.

I'm going to try a quick trip to Davy's this afternoon.  I have my list and I'm ready and when I get back, the car will go back under cover because we're supposed to get some "crappy" weather overnight.  Then on the weekend, we're getting dumped on again!

So much for plans! We did go to the lumber store but then..

I have a new hunk in my life....Hank  :smitten:

He is gorgeous!!!

Well muscled  in all the right places..

No salt and pepper but silver..

Into whipping, can beat and  even knead.

Not into conversation but goes right to work..

Curious???

Hank is my new Kitchenaid stand mixer ..I do have a hand held on of 20 + yrs that Kyle got me for Christmas one year but when "Hank" came on sale it was love at first sight.  :2funny:

Hope to do pies tomorrow....maybe

AMY, I know exactly what your mean!  I opened the door one day and found "George" on the porch.  I let him in and he's been hanging around the kitchen for a couple years now.  He's ready when I ask and he does more than I ever expected him to do.  He just doesn't give up.  He's always dressed in his blue coveralls and ready to go!

I have Henry on the counter right now, grinding 3 (yes, three) eye of round roasts for my kids. All were about 5-7 lbs each, already baked in cast iron Dutch ovens & cooled enough to start grinding. I used the old clamp on the table grinder for 50 years before this but wanted my daughter to see "how neat it is" to fill those zip loc bags to freeze & have ready any time. She & #1 son had lunch here yesterday & they cleaned out a whole bowl of meat spread on Ritz crackers. Tonight #2 son is stopping by to visit but instead of eating with me, he loves when I send him home with enough for he & girl friend to eat after they work out. They are thrilled when I send meat spread to them. I will mix enough to send sandwiches home with daughter so she doesn't have to eat on the road Friday. There is nothing I can give or do for them that means as much as the meat..... Henry has made this job so much easier. My daughter has my old hand grinder & Andy's wife has her gr-mothers, both insist they don't mind doing by hand, but neither gets around to it. The first Kitchen Aid I bought didn't have enough power for the grinder attachment so I gave it to my daughter & bought Henry, the 575 watt muscle man... it is a winner for meat! And now back to work because the youngest kid will be here in an hour or less & I need to clean the table up to make room for him. I finally got a card in the mail to Gloria today...

Good evening everyone. I will try to remember to get Nancy's recipe for the spread. Nancy came to so I asked her how. she just makes her spread with Ham, She grinds the Ham uses home made pickle relish some Miracle whip and a tad bit of mustard. it is gooood just ask me i will tell you. Good night and sweet dreams.

Hey, there friends!  That grinder attachment was the first special I got for "George".  He loves it and so do I.  I've made the ham spread similar to Nancy's quite often but I'd also like SHIRLEY's made with beef.  It sounds like a winner!

It's snowing out there again.  Not supposed to amount to a lot today but we're in for a load on the weekend!

Got to Davy's today so the fresh vegetable bin is full again and so is the peanut butter pretzel container.  And I can't stop yawning so I'm heading for the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I bake/roast my eye of round roasts in cast iron Dutch ovens... just a tad of Crisco to give them that browning, put about 3 cloves of garlic peeled & slivered per eye & cut/slash or slice half to push down inside the meat & chop the rest outside. Nothing but salt & pepper plus 2 full size bay leaves, after it makes about half an inch of broth browning on top of the stove, I put into the oven at 350°. After at least an hour I take out, flip the chunks over so the other side sits in the broth, and then I add about a tablespoon of sugar & tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, clap the lid on for another couple hours (all depends on how big the roasts). Even when I plan to grind them, I want tender because that broth has to be made into gravy... little flour browned & I save one chunk of the roast to cut into bite sizes to put back into the cast iron broth & then scrape it all out to put over mashed potatoes for "open face roast beef sandwiches"... slice of bread cut into triangle with pile of mashed potatoes in middle & heap of meat & gravy over it all. YUM.....

With my mother's meat spread I always take a bag full of ground meat, plenty of sweet pickle relish (Kroger's generic brand), Miracle Whip, a couple stalks of celery diced & sliced with about same amount of chopped fresh, sweet onion & 2 hopped hard boiled eggs. I don't think there has ever been a real recipe put down on paper because it depends on size of roasts & then how much ground beef we start out with. I have never tried to freeze it mixed but lots of years of experience freezing the Ziploc bags with ground beef.

Now we can all go to bed with food bouncing around in our dreams... I do love to eat! God Bless.

Good morning..

No new snow and temp is sitting at 0°F.  Picking up meds for hubby this morning and home to do whatever needs to be done. If I don't say it it may get done. :)

I come in here and read what Lloyd, Jane and Shirley do making their sandwich spreads and it makes me hungry!! I have made it using ham and bologna in the past but never beef but that will soon be done! Thank you for posting how you do yours Shirley..I have some eye of round in the freezer to use up.

Jane, how is Mickie doing??

Better shake a leg here ..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

And I have "What's His Name" who sits in the corner and does nothing because he is a big fat slug and I can't move him!  'Way too heavy for this old lady.  When I make meat spread, usually with bologna, and sometimes with ham, I will use the smaller, more moveable food processor.  It doesn't look the same as it is when ground up but it tastes the same.  I sometimes look at the Kitchen Aid and think I ought to get rid of it and then decide that maybe someday.....but, that day doesn't seem to get here.  ::)

The pantry is full and so is the fridge and freezer so we're just waiting on the "maybe" ice storm that is supposed to come in sometime tonight.  I hope the weather guessers have miss-guessed.

Take care, All.

Good Morning Everyfriend! we got the snow that was predicted overnight and the plow has been down my road and my good neighbor has been in my driveway.  So I'm good to go.  And that's good because my appointment for my first COVID shot is at 5:15 this afternoon.  My daughter is going to come here after work (she finishes at 4) and we'll have a little visit and the take off.  And if all goes well, we'll pick up Chinese on the way home and have supper together.

Since Frankie was running late today, I don't have Cooper so since Cathy has to wait in the car for me while I get my shot, we'll take Mickey along to wait in the car, too.

AMY, Mickie is still limping but she managed a short walk this morning and she managed to jump off the stool beside the couch.  I think she's feeling somewhat better.

We're supposed to get dumped on again over the weekend.  And after that I'll be ready for (warmer) April Showers and May Flowers.  Actually, I'm ready for them right now!

And if I don't get started, nothing will get done around here.  I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good Morning Everyone from the sunny
but cold rocky coast of Maine.

As I look at my cupboards and refrigerator,
both are looking "bareish"  since I have
taken downstairs and loaded up the
"free  food table".

You should see just how fast
everything disappears off that
table.

I have one box of Amy's Food
for my daughter Erin... and a
freezer full of frozen items
(never opened).  That I have to
walk over to my neighbors apt.

Tomorrow I get a large grocery
order of all low or no sodium
products..  Fruits,  vegetable
(fresh) and chicken ..

My new small crock pot is coming
today,  and I hope to make
good use of it in the future as
I make  a diet of low sodium foods.

I sure will miss all the goodies,
but I have found that when I stop
eating processed foods,  the easier is
is for me to maintain healthy eating.

Have a good day everyoen.

Sandy

Good morning from the warmer, now again snowy Interior where we've switched back to the plus side of the thermometer. The changing pressure has meant a tough couple of days for my joints, but nothing else news or noteworthy.

Sandy, if you're like me, you will notice a difference in how you generally feel and better skin and better sleeping. It sort of creeps up on you how much better you're feeling and how much better food is tasting.

I've never ground my meat, but I have a seven-quart dutch oven that I've cooked several roasts in. For some reason, I've never had a food processor, but generally, "all the other have to have kitchen appliances." Yesterday along with the dutch oven, slow cookers, and my oven, I prepared two roasts, a chicken tray, and browned and seasoned ground meat. All to be apportioned and froze in those handy ZipLock freezer bags. I'm set again for a month or more

Well, I knew it but I didn't want to admit it!  I live waaaaaaay out in the sticks!  I was scheduled to get my first COVID shot this afternoon and they called me to say the plane bringing the serum had been delayed and they needed to reschedule me.  I think the plane just couldn't find a field big enough to land in and didn't want to take a chance in the snow.  RATS!  Now I have to worry about it for another week!

The drug store guy did find my house to deliver my prescription so that's a good thing.  I've always been sort of a Pollyanna.  I look for the good and try not to think about the bad stuff.  It's been hard to do that this past year and especially this winter but I'm trying!

Cathy's still going to come for a visit and pick up Chinese for our supper and that's a VERY GOOD thing!  I think I'll just dwell on that!

I hope you are all doing as well as SANDY and PATRICIA today and that your tomorrow will be even better!

I did get my pie done and 4 shells in the freezer .

Haven't heard from Lloyd today and pray tomorrow goes well for him and Nancy.

Hope Shirley has heard from Gloria.s daughter to bring us up to speed.

A good Thursday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Today is our oldest sons 52nd Birthday.  #3 just turned 47 on the 6th.....these guys are starting to make me feel old!  Hahaha. I am kidding myself, of course!  My body tells me daily...."YOU ARE A OLD LADY"!

I got a good chuckle while reading about Hank, George, Henry and "old what's his name"!  I have Whitey.....he sits on my counter top all the time as he is too heavy for me to move!  I do not have any of the fancy attachments to grid meat or make pasta, but I sure wish I did.  Last weekend we FaceTime'd with youngest son and DIL and watched them make their homemade pasta....but you all know know that I am probably going to go in search of a couple of attachments!  Seems years ago I used to see them at garage sales a lot, but those days are in my past😩😩

AMY, I think I have a crush on Hank because you made him sound so handsome💗💗. Sometimes I find myself feeling a bit jealous of you.....you get to dance with the snowblower and all those fun kind of things🤪🤪🤩🤩

JANE....DARN DARN DARN....sorry to read about your Covid Vaccine appointment being delayed!
Good for you, SANDY, getting rid of all the items you can no longer eat!  I just hope Kelly gets your new items to you tomorrow so you do not starve to death! 🤪😃

SHIRLEY, I was not lucky enough to have your meat spread but I have had your sliced beef and gravy and I can attest that it is delicious.
I have made ground beef spread in the past but always used that grinder you attached to the able.  I think I still have it.....but have not used it for years as I have no surface to attach it to!  One time someone served bologna spread and I nearly lost my cookies.  Not sure why as I always liked balogna.

Michele had back surgery on two disks this past Monday, but so far she is still in a lot of pain.  We hope it will improve soon.  Bless her heart!

Thinking about GLORIA and praying she is improving every day🙏🙏

Off to pick up grandsons from school.

Well Cathy and I had a good visit and a good supper this evening.  We talked about a lot of stuff.  And solved a couple of problems and just plain enjoyed the company!  Supper was Chinese and she picked it up on the way over here.

AMY, thanks for the reminder that living "out in the sticks" is mostly pretty good.

Now I'm ready for the haystack and I have a lot of paper work to take care of tomorrow.  I dislike doing paper work.  I guess that's because that's what I did most of my life.  First off I worked in an office, then I helped out in the store and phone calls and paper work were my job.  And since my husband didn't like paper work the household paper work was always mine.  And a Girl Scout leader has lots of paper work to deal with if she's and active leader and I must have been because I did.  I know it's necessary but I still don't like it.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Lloyd ,good luck for today..

Jane, sounds like you and Cathy had an enjoyable time together!

Jenny, no need to be jealous, I will lend them out anytime to you. Prayers for a speedy recovery for Michele. that young lady has been through more than enough in her life time.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I'll just say "Morning" because it isn't a good one here.  Dark, dreary, and rainy.  But, we are lucky because the ice is staying north of us.  The temp. here was 33 deg. when I got up but the roads were just wet and no ice on the trees.  I'm very glad about that.

David got notice late yesterday that he will get his first vaccine shot on this coming Monday.  I hope they don't run out of the vaccine before then.  The news reports are that the supply is running very low.  I know that eventually this whole situation will get more organized but right now it does try one's patience.

Hope we hear about Gloria again soon and all of the friends that have been facing extra challenges of whatever kind.  I think about everyone of you.

Take care, All.

Oh....I made a big pot of Ham and 15 Bean Soup yesterday in the Instant Pot.  Sooooo good and just right for a chilly, rainy evening.  I'll be happy to share.

26 degrees, overcast, lids on the garbage bins still have ice on top and icicles hang from the edge of the roof.  Walking in the grass is "crunchy".  The wind is out of the North and bites right through how many ever layers of clothing you have on. These "lovely things" are quite familiar to our Amy and Patricia, and now to some of our U.S. states.  JaneS and Jeanne are getting snow, cold and probably North winds.
We are to be the recipients of "snow" come Sunday night and/or Monday.  I can certainly live without it!  Yesterday it was hazardous just to step out on the front porch or walkway to the porch.  As with the roads and highways, there was the treacherous glaze of "black ice".  A major highway/freeway in Ft. Worth tallied a 100+ vehicle pile up, killing 6 and sending over 60 to hospitals. The vehicles were cars, pickups, 18 wheelers (several of which were FedEx trucks).
Many cars were literally buried under the pile-up.  So, stay inside, stay warm, don't drive if the roads are iced, unless it's a dire medical emergency!  Best wishes to all of you in the path of this Arctic Blast!
Joanne

Tome, I really hate black ice!!! Second to that is slush...one has very little if not no control when caught by either one.

Bread is done, laundry (dogs beds ) out on the line drying. Maybe tomorrow a chop suey  bread will get done.

I am more into saying maybe as one never knows what the day may bring. There is snow in the forecast but just maybe it will go away..

Morning, Afternoon, Evening (So far, Like PHYLLIS) not putting "good" with them.  It's been a day of mind boggling work.  I called my medigap insurance to ask if my plan covered some of the things they wer advertising on TV and if it didn't why were they charging me so much.  Turns out my plan is so old, they're not even offering it any more.  I was on the phone with a very nice lady who gave me so much information that I couldn't think straight.  In the end, I asked her if she would email me the things we'd discussed because I was a better reader than I was listener.  She did and we set a day for another talk on Monday.  It does sound like I can do better and save some money and that would be nice.  But Cathy will also look over the info and we'll put our thoughts together and try to make a decision.

My mind is numb right now.  I think I'll take a nap and think about all this stuff later.

JENNY, I'm still praying for Michele! It sure sounds like she needs God on her side.  She has to be a very special person!

PHYLLIS, I'm glad the worst of the weather passed you by.  I hope you stuck some of that bean soup in the Hidey Hole because I'm going to check there when I finish here.

My eyes are numb and they're begging to close!  I hope you are all having a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

YooHoo!  It sure is empty in here!  I'm going to bid you all good night right now even though it's early.  Cooper is spending the night and I never sleep well when he's here.  He won't sleep in the bedroom with us and he spends half the night in the living room on the sofa and the other half in the spare bedroom where Frankie sleeps when she stays here.  I spend the night wondering if he's OK!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, snow-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

P.S. We're going to get more snow tomorrow!  I wonder where the flowers are!

"Well some better news on mom, she left the hosp yesterday(Thursday) and into rehab. She went to the place where I worked in the kitchen for 5 years before I got married.
She is still very weak and unable to walk on her own. PT will help I hope and she can regain her strength. If she can't walk on her own she will be going into a nursing home. I think she has something like 30 days that Medicare will pay for rehab. So she has a lot of work to do to be able to get home.
I will read your e-Mail to her tomorrow. I am sure she will be glad to hear  from you. She will be glad to get cards and brighten up her room.
Thank you for caring!

Laundry day and it will be a race to see what freezes first the bedding or my fingers! May try the Chop suey loaf today.

Jane, I sent the card to her apartment. I am sure someone will be picking up her mail.

Shirley, thank you for the great update on Gloria. The food should be better now. :)

Phyllis, that sounds like a rib sticking soup!!  We really enjoy a soup like that ,a meal in one bowl.

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it. Speaking of eggs ,when I visited the neighbour she sent home another dozen of colourful eggs plus a piece of smoked pork!! May us the pork in Phyllis's soup!

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Yesterday I received a message from AngelFace that she is in terrible pain in leg and hip and can't walk at all. Maybe arthritis but it sounds so much worse. She was thinking of   calling an ambulance. I told her not to wait, but I am sure that her cat is very much on her mind, since Ferrah is so fearful of strangers. Hopefully I'll hear better news tomorrow.

Greetings from cold and dreary Colorado!  BURRRR

Good to read the positive news about GLORIA, but not good to read that PATRICIA is not doing well.  Leg and hip pain and can not walk....frightening sounding. I do hope if she got some help, and that someone will look in on Farrah😩

AMY, memories of hanging  clothing /sheet / diapers out on the line and what freezes first!  The answer is BOTH at the same time!  I hope you got the job done and nothing is permanently is damaged on your body!  Not fun and not one bit jealous of you today my friend😘

We were invited to Dave and Michele's for a Valentine dinner celebration but declined.....much to risky to be getting out in this weather.

I hope EVERYFRIEND is staying safe and warm🥰

Bubble, sorry to hear that Patricia is having such pain... must be in the air. I woke up this morning with both knees feeling like they were run over by a car, wheel right on the joints!

Patricia, I do know the concern about leaving our fur babies..... that kept me home the 2 & half weeks of COVID. (((hugs))) to you and Farrah.

I finally Googled foods that arthritis hates and seems it's everything I've been hungry for lately. And I thought we needed to listen to what our body wanted/needed. So much for that theory.  I have gone overboard for anything citrus since having COVID... figured with it being winter I really needed the vitamin C ... guess I'll try cutting back. Besides that I've been eating potatoes any & every way possible (real potatoes), not to count the sweets. I couldn't have done more damage if I intentionally shopped to FEED Arthur!!!  Hope you find a quick fix for your pain, Patricia, and can settle back to the good life.

Jenny, I had a quick look at the view cams in Salida & Buena Vista and shocked there's almost NO SNOW either place. Those forests will sure be dry next summer if they don't get moisture soon. I told the boys I'm not going but can't imaging having a summer without at least ONE trip to the mountains. We'll see. They are planning to go, Andy & Pete & not sure how many others. They feel like at least in the woods COVID will be out of mind a little. Last year they put their masks on & went into town to bring back special foods. My oxygen problem kept me from enjoying the trip like normal, but we didn't feel we needed to "mask up" as long as it was just family around.

Sorry Michele had to go through another surgery. Thought about you this last week when my neighbor's parents moved across the street from us. I have met them enough times to feel like part of the family & a smile every time I see one of them walking across the street. So wish that for you & your father.... but we don't get everything we wish for, do we?

Amy, I remember having diapers freeze on the line in England and all the women kept telling me how "nice & white" freezing made them. But it was 3 flights down the steps to hang them & more often than not, they weren't dry so would hang them around the little electric wall heater & take them back out the next day. The next house we rented had a fireplace so they weren't quite as much trouble.... but I didn't get a dryer until the 3rd kid was born!!!!

Just dropping by to wish you all a good night.  This will probably be full of errors because I'm typing with my eyes closed and half asleep.  My sister called a little after 10 and we just hung up.  We've done a lot of "remembering the past" and "looking at the future" and now we're going to bed in the "present".

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free,  snow-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

News from AngelFace- Patricia
I called an ambulance yesterday and had a full workup, X-rays, etc. I have a badly sprained left foot, and the pain radiates through the entire leg. I have a walker, but it's excruciating, and I spend the time with the foot elevated. They are hesitant to give me meds as I have side effects or the opposite effect. The instructions say three to four weeks, but I'm hoping the pain lessens sooner. It's mainly, I believe, the radiated pain. I'm basically bedridden right now but hope to be better soon.

In the news today: Powerful Quake Hits Japan, off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.

Isn't that where Sachiko lived? It's been a long time since we heard from her...
Actually no news from Sato either.
Is anyone in contact with him, her?

Good snowy morning..

Happy Valentines Day to  you..

Looks like I shall be dancing again...4" of fluffy snow fell overnight. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.....day of rest here.

Bubble, thank you for the update on Patricia/Angleface. A sprain is just as bad if not worse than a break. Hope healing is swift.

Jane, fun to catch up with your family. I intend to call my niece that lives in PEI to see how they are doing with all the snow.

Shirley, foods play a roll in feeding Arthur big time.......tomatoes are another culprit too and salt doesn't help much either..

Better get my dancing clothes on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Well, we were supposed to get a lot of "gunk" beginning around midnight and lasting into the morning hours.  It didn't happen!  HOORAY!  There were all kinds of weather warnings and warnings to to watch for poor driving conditions.  The roads are dry and nothing came out of the sky!

However, there is still a warning for tomorrow night into Tuesday and another one for the end of the week.  I hope it doesn't prevent the airplane from landing this week because they rescheduled my appointment for covid vaccine for Friday of this coming up week!

I'm including PATRICIA in my prayers and hoping she gets relief soon!  Not being able to abide the possible relief medicines is a real handicap!

AMY, be careful while you're dancing.  Don't let that guy lead!  He might take a misstep and that wouldn't be good.

I wish everyone a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

I stopped by earlier and must have forgotten to post my thoughts for the day! Checked temps & it keeps going DOWN....now at 3°  with feels like of -14°. (Near noon).  No warm up until next week end. I hate to think of what that pool will look like come spring. Don't recall we ever had it this cold for this long. Flurries today, no idea how much has fallen, but the wind is blowing enough to move it into drifts so a big problem for highway & street crews (besides the super cold those poor guys face).  As Pollyanna would mention, though, "enough snow to go down the hill"... but might crack & fall apart at the bottom.  ???  :-\

Bubble, I don't remember exactly where Sachiko or Sato lived, she posed a photo of Mt.Fuji? one time that was gorgeous, taken from her house. They had a "cabin" somewhere else, but they both belonged to the same camera group at one time. I'm the world's worst about remembering places. It is a fact that the "underworld" has been doing some major rumbling the last couple years.

Amy, I've been kicking myself for not paying attention to my cravings lately.... never had any reason before to think about arthritis diet but knew Cas' gout was some of the same foods. Guess it's my turn to beware.  :tissue:

We have that dry, fine show coming down right now... the kind that sneaks up and causes big problems. It doesn't make noise like rain so all of a sudden everything is covered.

Well, doggies, I heated a plate of spaghetti & forgot to eat. Came over to look out the door & fascinated by the depth of snow, sat down at the computer & mind when "poof".... Almost a white-out right now. Sure hope we don't lose power with this COLD WEATHER.

Happy Valentine's Day, Everyfriend  :smitten:

Shirley, I think it's a "given" that the foods we crave most aren't good for things that "Can't Be Cured So Must Be Endured".  :tickedoff:

Your weather started moving in here overnight.  Fortunately, the snow is "fluffy" and the newspaper was close
enough to the garage door that I could use the pushbroom to "scoop" it toward me without having to go out in the snow.
Another storm is supposed to move in from the west Tuesday/Wednesday.  Weather predictions for the next 10 days aren''t good.

Church services have been live via Facebook video for quite a while.  This morning's services were live from the homes of the two pastors.  Not sure how they did that but it worked.

#2 son/dil brought milk and yogurt from Braum's yesterday morning but weren't able to find bread, peanut butter or eggs.  Dil had been to Super Walmart on Friday and said the meat, dairy and bread aisles were totally empty.  Fortunately, I'd had a big grocery order delivered earlier in the week so I'm not out of anything.  May have to "ration" a few things but that's okay.

#1 son popped in yesterday afternoon with a beautiful bouquet of red roses.

Was glad I'd baked Applesauce Muffins earlier and could send some home with all of them.

Stay warm and safe, Everyfriend.

Sounds like you all got the weather that was predicted for us for this weekend.  My daughter who lives outside of Tulsa, OK, sent me a picture of the icicles hanging from her spouting in the back of her house.  She said it's freezing cold where she is.

It's also cold here but so far, clear.  I'm hoping it stays that way until tomorrow night because my Maryland daughter had an extra day off and decided to come up here.  She won't be safely home until late tomorrow afternoon.

I hope PATRICIA is feeling better today!

BUBBLE, I don't know where in Japan either of our friends live but I've also been missing them on S&F.  I wonder what took them away!

CALLIE, it sounds like your kids are keeping tabs on you, too.  It's nice that you send goodies home with them when they stop by to check up on you.  That kind of proves to them that you're doing OK.

I got two chickens from Christy and her husband when she came up today.  She said they're not the best...a little on the tough side.  She suggested that I might stew them and use them for my homemade dog food.  I'll save some for potpie or soup when I do that.  Now please remember, in PA Dutch country, potpie is NOT pie.  It's dough in a pot.  Now I'm hungry for some!

I'm off to the haystack.  I did a lot today.  Nothing that really shows except for a nice supper and two more meals for another time.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

HAPPY 💗 VALENTINES DAY
      EVERYFRIEND

Like most EVERYFRIEND, we, too, are in the deep freeze and will be for a few more days.  Unfortunately we did not get very much snow and when the shoveler arrived they came with blowers and the snow blew off looking like dust!  No moisture in this round! 😩

Thank you, BUBBLE for the update from Patricia.  It sure doesn't sound good and I am very concerned how she is going to care for herself and Farrah😩😩. Sure hope someone can look in and help her out. Positive thoughts and prayers for her to heal soon.

I heard about the earthquake in Japan and immediately thought about our friends there.  I do hope they are all OK. 🙏

AMY, I was happy to read your laundry dried well for you yesterday😘
Good to read you are at least getting a decent amount of accumulation so you can get a good dance in with the snowblower.

JANE, I think a lot of us did not get anywhere near the amount of snow that was predicted.  Sometimes it is just too cold to even snow!

SHIRLEY, I hope that snow doesn't drift and cover over your home!  I seem to forget to post more often than I want to admit.  Mostly I get called away and forget to come back🤪

How sweet, CALLIE.  Red roses for a pretty mama🌹🌹🌹🌹

Almost another holiday over and done.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND🥱😴🥱😴

Jenny
