*~*~*~* The Angel *~*~*~*

Why is it that you were taken away,
I had so much left to say.
We had shared so much together,
it never mattered what the weather.
If things were good, when things were bad...
If we were happy, when we were sad...
You were always there for me,
whenever, I needed you to be.

We grew up together, you and I.
now we've said our last "good bye."
At first, it was extremely hard for me,
to live without, things that used to be.
Each night I lie down, I think of you.
all of the things you had gone through.
The pain of watching you loose your life,
I prayed each night you would win the fight...
Now you are gone, and I must carry on.

I picture you now in such  "bright light,"
laughing with me, with such delight.
Close to my heart you will always be,
the "Angel" whom watches over me.
I will always Love you my "Friend,"
I await the day we meet again!

Kisses Sweeter Than Wine
(Paul Campbell/Joel Newman)

Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine

When I was a young man and never been kissed
I got to thinking over what I had missed
I got me a girl, I kissed her and then
Oh Lord, I kissed her again

Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine

He asked me would I marry and be his sweet wife
And we would be so happy all of our life
He begged and he pleaded like a natural man and then
Oh Lord, I gave him my hand

Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine

I worked mighty hard and so did my wife
Workin' hand in hand to make a good life
With corn in the field and wheat in the bins, then
Oh Lord, I was the father of twins

Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine

Our children numbered just about four
They all had sweethearts and knockin' at the door
The all got married and they didn't hesitate, I was
Oh Lord, the grandmother of eight

Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine

Now we are old and ready to go
We get to thinkin' what happened a long time ago
We had a lot of kids, trouble and pain, but
Oh Lord, we'd do it again

Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine
Oh oh oh oh

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up early today because Mickie had an urgent call around 5:30.  We've been out and I have my first cup of coffee.

Today is going to be an odd day because I'm not sure what Christy's plans are.  I'm sure she'll be back because she left something here.  But I don't know when that will be.

Last night for supper, I made pork chops in the air fryer and they were delicious!  I have two more meals ready in the fridge.

Thank you BUBBLE for the nice, clean, attractive new Soda Shoppe.  The decorations are beautiful and the thoughts are nice too.

Now I'm going to go get a shower before the boinger goes for breakfast.  I feel like I need it today!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning..

Hmm temp is above 12°F...working its way to snow??? We did have a light dusting overnight but nothing to be concerned about.

Watched US news and oh my Callie is getting snow as is TX and it is not pretty!! Seeing the pile ups and transports losing control on black ice gives me the shivers.
Tis a holiday here. Family day most stores will be closed. Nothing planned but know there are lots of jobs to be done.

Bubble thank you for a new start page...I am now listening to this.

Gloria, hope each day gets you closer to getting out.

Patricia, a sprain is such a sore pain to deal with. Even sneezing ,it would likely hurt the foot! Hope pain lessens each day..

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day an stay safe.

Gosh, Bubble, you are pulling up old graphics of mine that I haven't seen in years. I always liked this one a lot.  The haiku I used on it is a favorite of mine and I thought it went very well with the image I used.  Thanks for bringing it back after all this time.

Liked the song lyrics you chose, too.  Happy Valentine's Day....belated...to you, and everyone here.

It is finally not raining here although it is cloudy, wet, and chilly.  We were lucky to miss the ice storm that hit just north of us over the weekend.  Thousands of people up there are still without power and it is a cold morning around here.

David has an appointment for his first shot this afternoon and it is supposed to stay dry and temp. in the 40's.  I hope that is true because it is a long, heavy-traffic drive for him to the other side of Raleigh and back.

Take care, All.  Stay warm and stay safe.

The radio says it is 9° BELOW zero with feels like 30 below! I don't think I have ever seen it this cold and since it has been super cold most of the week, there isn't any warm spot outside for the critters to snuggle. This isn't the pretty snow that lines the dark tree limbs, they are bare, it is dry, powdery & blowing so much it is hard to tell what is new falling & what is blowing off the roof tops. TomKat is laying here by my feet, looking out the door with his ears back.  :cat:  Wonder how Farrah is doing, if Patricia is home or not.  Hi, Fancyface!

I made plans in my head before getting out of bed..... to get out the snow blower to clean the driveway & make a trip to the store to see if they have Russell Stover turtles 50%-70% OFF like after the last holidays. Yum... Not sure today is the day.... not even a bird in sight. Cats fed but not me so better get a move on.

Thanks for the clean house to visit in, Bubble. Phyllis, wonder why I didn't realize/remember that you did all those graphics. I had help learning and got through the first 2 "Steps" but Cas was getting bad and I couldn't concentrate so gave up. I did get help from so many and loved learning but the learning didn't stick. Beautiful graphics, thank you, ladies!

Merry Monday.  Sun is trying to shine but temperature is minus 6*. (Im farther south than Shirley  ;))   Report is that my area had about 6 inches of snow yesterday. That's more than we usually get in a year!

Birds at feeders having to take turns because they can barely fit with their feathers so fluffed up to stay warm.

Hope Everyfriend finds something to enjoy today.

From Texas, where it's usually warm, even in Winter:  Temperature 8 Degrees; Wind Chill -13 degrees with lots of snow on the ground, highways, everywhere.  Area is subject to rolling power outages, or, right now, some power outages that are not "rolling".  Some folks been without for hours.  My neighbors and I have been blessed, as haven't experienced one yet.  I have on so many clothes, my hubby would have said "you are wrapped up like a Mummy".  I look like a Weeble...wobble but don't fall down (I hope)!

If you are in it, stay warm.  If you're warm, say a thank you Prayer.

Well, the snow is cleaned up again. First I shoveled the driveway (snow fluffy) then I just took the snow blower to get rid of the windrow and do the back yard for the dogs. Besides can't have Mr Snowblower and shovel in a fight for the job!
Time to put the feet up for a bit..
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for February 15, 2021

You did better than me, Amy. I took trash out but had to take a broom to brush off the snow to get to the dumpster (light & fluffy) Don't know where the shovel is & didn't want to start the blower until tomorrow. Supposed to get a tad warmer tomorrow. Up to 1°  right now but feels like 14-17° below, even with sun shining. Haven't heard how much snow we got but with drifting it can be all depths. I did NOT go to the store, have seen a couple cars go down this street but I'm not that desperate, maybe tomorrow.  ;)

Joanne, from one mummy to another, our power flickered a couple times this morning & the radio announcer mentioned outages but the company is getting back on in an hour or less..  the one time we were without for 8 days my husband had just gotten out of the hospital, a nightmare week but we survived. We could see the houses across the street in front & across the river in back had power... and nobody offered to run a line over to this side (about 8-10 houses).  :-\  Ice had brought a transformer down that fed us and nobody realized we were without (we had all called) until a neighbor's family member caught some of the trucks (think from TX) gathered a few blocks away talking about going home. Neighbor's brother piped up WE didn't have power so they came & rescued us. Originally 100,000 houses without power so "Control Center" insisted all reports go through them. Real efficient bunch! Takes something like that to make one realize what a blessing it is that states help each other, and it's the people NOT state officials that do the helping!

Time to feed cats, me, too.

Shirley, we are under a snowfall warning here. I just hope that it is the light snow that  was cleaned up today and not the heavy wet snow. Hope you do not lose power! Just have lots of extra water in buckets etc , then you can still flush the toilet.

Good evening everyone. well we gained  a little we got up to 0º lost the - but still in the double digits for wend chill. we are getting light snow, but the blowing snow is causing the trouble. It is covering and keeping the roads covered and slick, faster than the snow plows and salt trucks can stay ahead of it. well i went shopping but paid for more than i got home with called back to wall mart and told them what i done they said no problem next time I came back to go to service counter and they would either refund my $$ or give my Ice, that is what the carrier failed to get for me. good Night and sweet dreams.

I'm giving up early tonight.  Mickie had an early call this morning so we were up before daylight today and I'm tired.  Christy is safely back in Maryland and we are covered with ICE!  There is nothing that doesn't have an ice covering if it's not under a roof.  anAnd it's supposed to be that way all night and half of tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, feel-better tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Oh boy did we get snow and it is still falling!! Must be 5+ inches at the moment and temp is +2°.

I think my plans on meeting a lady to give her a quilt might be put on hold ,will phone and see what her plans are for the day.

Other than cleaning the driveway and out back for the dogs not a lot planned. I haven't even heard a plow truck so far. Well, we expect weather like this and it could be worse , so can't complain. I bet everything is so pretty come day light.  :smitten:

Jane, glad Christy is safe back home. Be careful walking on that ice!!! I hope you have some sand or ice melter to put down first.

Phyliss ,do you have a recipe for your 15 bean soup to share please?

Gloria and Patricia ,hope you both feel much better. You both are missed!!

Better get ready for the dance..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  In spitee of the ice, Cooper made it over here and Frankie got safely to work.  Now for the day's work to get underway.

I have to cook the two chickens that Christy brought me and then I have to pick the meat off the bones and store the broth and the chicken meat for later use.  I was going to make Radioman's sweet potato soup today and I might still do that if all my pots aren't in use.  I've been hungry for that for days now.

And if I don't get at it, it will never be done.  Makes sense?

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  Stay safe!

This is roughly the recipe I use, Amy.

1 bag of 15 BEANS, washed. (Not necessary to pre-soak if using the Instant Pot.)

8 cups of water, or chicken broth, if you prefer

1 cup chopped onion (and I add chopped celery and chopped carrots)

1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes

    Juice from one lemon (optional)

1 tsp of chili powder (or more)

1-2 cloves of garlic diced, or 1 t.(or to taste) garlic powder

Optional: 1 lb. of ham, ham hocks or smoked sausage.  (I often use kielbasa.)

Put all in Instant Pot and I cook it for 50 minutes because we like our bean soup mushy.  Adjust whatever seasonings to your liking and serve.

I kind of just throw in anything that appeals to me at the time and usually serve it with grated cheddar to sprinkle over.  I hope you enjoy it.

Not a good night in North Carolina either.  Not as cold as it has been but had a pretty bad tornado just southeast of us.  Fatalities and some people still missing.  We didn't have wind here.  Our power did flicker once yesterday but stayed on.  The sun has actually come out briefly this morning and that is a wonderful sight.  It is supposed to be in and out during the day and then back to rain and/or ice again tonight.

Take care, All.

Good morning.

Son who lives across town brought me to his house yesterday.  News was and is all about rolling brown-outs across the state. Ours began about an hour ago. Supposed to last 2 hours.

Son had logs blazing in fireplace and generator ready to go so we are warm and "entertained".

Granddogs (2 Labs) are making sure I'm well protected and that I don't sit in "Mom's" or "Dads's" chair.  ;)

Hope Everyfriend finds something to enjoy today.

Callie, I had to laugh at your "guard dogs" they certainly are a creature of habits.

Snow is cleaned up for now. more falling and more again on Thur. One drift by the wood was two feet high, always amazes me on how sharp the edge is on a drift..!!

Better go see what I can get out of doing ... :2funny:

CALLIE, nice to read that your son brought you to his place so you will be warm and safe.  Did you take your roses, I hope?

Hello Everyfriend!  It's still cold here but the ice coating is all gone.  We are supposed to get more snow Thursday into Friday and I hope it's gone by noon on Friday.  My appointment for my Covid shot is 1:15 on Friday and I want to be able to make it.

JENNY, the house did smell pretty good today.  I got both the chickens cooked and the meat picked off the bones.  I have enough meat for two batches of dog food and meat and broth for a nice pot of chicken pot pie (dough in a pot kind).  I'm hungry for that right now and I'm going to send a container of it to my SIL.  He loves it but it's not one of Cathy's favorites so she never learned how to make it.

I didn't attempt to make the Sweet Tater Soup but I still have the taters and the recipe lying on the kitchen counter.  I WILL make it this week.

I wish recovery and good health to PATRICIA and GLORIA.  Prayers continue.

AMY, I hope your dancing partners become less demanding as winter wanes.  It IS waning, isn't it?

PHYLLIS, that soup sounds like MY kind of soup but I gave up my IP.  I might try making it anyway.  I did copy the recipe.

CALLIE, nice that your family looks after you when even when the power outage is only a possibility.  The really care about you!

Now I'm off to the haystack.  I hear the zzzzs calling and Cooper will be here early again tomorrow morning.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, feel-better tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Night and sweet dreams. we do send prayers for those in need. I have a story to tell on my self. I had three checks  amounting to several hundred $$ endorsed In a envelop to go to the bank with. stuck in the bib of my overhauls and lost it, at wall mart Parking lot. went in and shopped and realized I had lost it, went to the service counter and asked about it.( not there) went to service area and aired up some low tires.as I was leaving and talking to one of the greeters asking her about it and she to go see the greater at the other end I did and she told me she had helped a customer out to her car with her basket and found it and just turned it in to service desk. she would take no reward. God works in mourner's ways.

Made an appointment for hubby to get his hair cut today so off we will go to get that done then head into the city. He has some presents from Christmas to go back and now that lockdown has been lifted the stores will now take them back.

Jane ,I just bet the cooking smells made your home smell nice. I have been hankering for a chicken soup and that after Phyllis bean soup will be next.

Lloyd ,thank goodness for honest folks, glad you got your cheques back. Hope you found your other two cows.

Jenny,   way to go on the 15 years for Bob..at the time one worries if they will get through it, now you can look back and say yayyy we did it!! I say we as I know what the other one goes through while their spouse is going through treatment.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning to Everyfriend!  This morning has turned into laundry day.  As I crawled into bed last night, I had in mind to change the bed and wash everything in the morning.  Mickie decided that I needed to get an early start and she wee wee'd on the bed.  It went thru everything except the mattress pad so the mattress didn't get wet.  I got up, stripped the bed and threw the mattress pad in the washer (after we did another outie) and then opened up the sofa bed so we could sleep there the rest of the night.  Today, I've been washing all the rest of the bedding and some towel that were accumulating.  I have the bed remade and the last load in the washer.  Not a lot of fun there!

LLOYD, you were so lucky with your checks!  I don't think that happens often.  You must be living right!  Good luck with your court date.  I hope it all goes your way.  You deserve the best!

I'm going to go scrounge up some lunch and then read the paper while I eat.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S. some of that snow you are getting in Kansas and OK is stopping by Cindy's house near Tulsa.  She's being kept busy feeding the robins.

More snow on the way for tomorrow.  I think enough is enough !!!!!

I am feeling a lot better but still get so sleepy.

Hope everyone is making out ok with all the terrible weather that is all across our country.  Feel so sorry for the people in Texas.  So many without any heat.

Please stay safe.

Good morning..

Snow is to start later this evening ,temp is -6° F. Busy day ahead, Kyle is going to make a cabinet for Hank...he is just too tall to fit under the cupboard  so off the the lumber store we go. A friend called and asked if I would take her into town so she could pick up groceries and do banking so that will be after I take hubby in. Then some time in the day there is a quilt delivery to do. When all the world is slowing down, cancer is full steam ahead, this is the second delivery in two weeks I have made.

Today would be a good day to make Phyllis's bean soup , warm the insides and stick to the ribs as tomorrow there will be more snow to deal with.

Joy, we watched the news and saw the mess they have is TX. lives lost just trying to get warm! Great to read you are feeling better too.

Lloyd  ,homemade ice cream is the best!!

Jane, I had a washing job of a dog's bed, Babe tossed her cookies on it so into the washer it went.

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

I'm up ana attem!  My plan was to sleep in a bit longer today but Mickie got antsy and after what happened yesterday, I didn't think it was a good idea to make her wait.

Not sure what's on the agenda today but I do have to deal with about 6 quarts of good chicken broth.  I think I might try canning it and I'm pretty sure it will have to be pressure canned.  I'll have to look that one up since I've never canned just the broth before.  I'm also still craving Radioman's sweet tater soup and I have all the ingredients.

LLOYD, home made icecream is the BEST!  We used to make it when we were little and the best part was that since we didn't have a freezer back in those days, we had to eat it all in one day!  Imagine that!  What a chore.....NOT!  My dad and my uncle both had a rule...If you didn't help crank, you didn't help eat.  EVERYONE cranked!

Gotta get this day started!  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

We've got ice.  It looks pretty but it is dangerous and we are not going anywhere.  I have my fingers crossed that the power stays on.  David made sure that the gas logs are working so we will have heat if the power does go out and we've heated canned beans in the fireplace before so we can do that again if we have to.  Anyway, I made sure we have plenty of sandwich stuff on hand but I won't want to open the fridge any more than I have to if we have no power.  I hate having to throw away a lot of spoiled food.

Take care, All, and stay warm.

Good Morning,

#2 son took me to his house last Monday - anticipating the "blizzard" and possible rolling power blackouts during the next few days.  They have a log fireplace and a generator so the 2-hour blackout Tuesday morning didn't bother us that much.
They are both working from home and depend on cell phones and computers so are hoping they don't have another one.

I love being with them and the two dogs (who think Lab is spelled L-A-P.  However, they both lie at my feet to make very sure I'm sitting in a chair and not in Mom's or Dad's space on the couch  ;) ).

Even so, I was glad to be back with my own things when he brought me home late yesterday afternoon.  I think I would have been comfortable driving across town on the city streets - but wouldn't even try on the neighborhood streets.

We're on different power companies and there was no evidence of a black-out in my area.  Snow in yard is probably up to my knees so birds will have to wait for the feeders to be filled.

Did have a new experience while there.  I knew what a Roomba is but had never seen one "in action" until theirs began cleaning the wood floors in three rooms.  Funny to watch it bump into something, appear to "think", and then start in another direction.  When it's full, it takes itself back to its station, empties into a canister, comes back to where it was and starts over.

Off to do laundry.

I am more than happy to slow down for the rest of the day. Did all that I had to do...right down to ordering the top for the cupboard which is almost made, just have to wait on the pull out slides.

Better go fill up Mr SB ,just in case he is needed in the morning...rather have him gassed and ready to go.

Patricia says hi...and will be here when she is feeling a bit better.

Callie, labs are such loveable dogs always willing to cuddle too! Hope you don't lose power  aand can stay safe and warm!

Phyllis, I hope your power stays on also.. Think I will start your pot of bean soup then it will be done for tomorrow if we get inundated with more snow!

We've had light snow most of the day today.  But it hasn't amounted to more than about 4 inches overall.  The roads have been plowed a couple times and salted once so they are mostly clear.

Frankie was off today and was going to come for a visit but she took Cooper to the Vet instead.  He's been limping for a couple days and today he wouldn't put his foot on the ground at all.  They told her it wasn't broken but might be a little strained.  Like maybe he landed wrong on one of his leaps.  He probably slipped on the ice.  Not much to do about that for a dog.

I'm working on a change to my medigap insurance and I hate this job with a purple passion!  Thank goodness, Cathy is helping me through the gal in her agency who does this for Seniors on a daily basis.  The first thing Lyn said is that I'm definitely paying too much for my medigap.  It was fine when I bought it 7 years ago but it keeps going up even if I don't use it much.  For an old lady, I'm pretty healthy!

AMY, I'm so glad to hear that PATRICIA has been in touch with you!  I'v been concerned about her.

Well, I have 6 quarts of beautiful chicken broth canned and I did have to use the pressure canner but it's going to be worth it when I feel like soup sometime.  There's the broth, ready and waiting.  I also baked a pumpkin pie with pumpkin that I froze last Fall from a crook neck pumpkin that Christy grew.  I ate a piece for my dessert tonight.

I'm downright nervous about my COVID shot tomorrow.  I'll be glad to have it but I can't help but wonder about reactions.  I'm glad to have the reports from those of you who have already had it and I'm hoping I respond as well.  Cathy is going to take me.  And I suspect she'll hang around a while after I come home.

Now I'm heading for the haystack after I take Mickie out one more time.  I sure hope it's loaded with zzzzzs and that they take over my brain so I can sleep.  I'm really tired!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, no-snow tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I bought the best smelling ham shanks yesterday.... could smell them through the plastic wrap in the trunk driving home  & can hardly wait to cook them in a pot of beans. Have any of you driven through Kentucky or Tennessee when they are smoking hams in the barns along the highway? We made that trip once or twice a year since 1957, when we got back from England. Now & then we would hit the times they smoked hams & since the "early" cars didn't have AC, we drove with windows open part way. Wonderful smells, but back in those early years we never stopped to buy a ham and what we've had since doesn't smell the same, but these ham shanks do. I have great expectations for this pot of beans. I cheated and bought frozen Grands biscuits, if you haven't tried the frozen, they are the nearest to my mother-in-law's biscuits I've ever tasted. I've been taking them to Colorado camping the last few years & everyone loves breakfast, I go all out!

I've had one of those days when nothing worked right. Need a paper for the tax man & can't find that, tried again to start the snow blower & even with electric start, it won't start, can't find my shovel (last time I put it away!), & something else that I tried & didn't work, so I am having a pity party tonight...oh, I know, I couldn't get the air compressor to work to fill my SnoNut so I could go down the hill before the snow disappears... I use it all the time but my son did something to make it run differently & I don't know how to use it now. I learn "how to" one way & don't know how to figure out different methods. My husband & I worked well together, he gave orders & I took them, he would start me off doing something & I'd get the job done. I am used to being the extra pair of hands & hadn't realized I need for someone to wind me up to get me started!

Was disappointed to find my sack of potatoes icky on the garage step... been here since 1988 & never had it freeze in the garage till this week. Had to take them out to the dumpster since I didn't notice them earlier, so on with the boots & heavy coat again.  :snowman:  :snowball:

Guess I'd better get to bed. "Hi" back to Patricia next time you talk to her, Amy... or if you are on the computer...  HI & hope you get better fast! Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Shirley

Good morning..
Can sing let it snow ,let it snow this morning. Looks to be an all day snow fall here.

Today is clean up the snow ,then go back to the lumber store to pick up a piece of wood for the  slide out drawers of the cabinet.

Making Phyllis's soup today...perfect day for it!

Shirley, my son smoked a pork shoulder for the first time and said they come out beautiful! The shoulders are on sale this week so I can see a lot of them being done while he is home.

Jane Patricia had her shot and she said she is fine despite the worries she may of had. Her arm was fine afterwards. Hope she pops in today and she can tell you of her experience. That broth will be so tasty and at the ready when you want it! How long did you process it?

Better get ready for the ball...I have MR SB gassed and ready to go  so he won't be a slouch on the dance floor :))

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's still softly snowing out there.  Mickie came in with a light coat on her coat and when I looked up, I could feel it on my face.  But it hasn't affected my road.

AMY, my Ball Blue Book (the bible for canning procedures) told me to process quarts for 25 minutes.  And the lids were popping as soon as the canner was cool enough to take the lid off!

This morning, I used some of the chicken to make doggie food.  Nice to have it there and ready.  Of what I ground, there's enough left to make some chicken salad for sandwiches for lunch.  And I have a container in the freezer to make chicken potpie...maybe next week!

SHIRLEY, you did have a frustrating day yesterday!  I hope today is better for you. I'm thinking that if you lived in PA, you wouldn't smell all those smoke houses any more.  Around here, the farmers are only doing hams for themselves.  They are not allow to sell home smoked hams and I sure do miss them.  There is one dealer who still has a contract with a farm to sell him smoked hams and they go like hotcakes.  Most of the farms couldn't afford to upgrade to what was demanded by the major meat processors.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

OK had a 4.2 earthquake today so checking to see if Callie felt it. Not sure if it was felt here but looking at pictures on the wall.... slightly shifted so guess that's what Tiger jumped at earlier.  I figured probably some snow/ice sliding off the roof. Had a biggie on the other side of the world this past week so around it goes.

We are up to 28° with bright sun so snow should melt pretty good... and I never did get the SnoNut aired up!!!   :tissue:  :snowball:  :snowman:

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for remembering me! I'm still mainly on bedrest with my left leg propped up, but I do have a walker; I can only put weight on my leg for short periods, but that is changing even if just in seven days. They said three to four weeks, but I'm going to try to prove them wrong. Farrah has been an angel, hanging out on the bed with me and checking up on me otherwise.

I had the shot yesterday and still no reactions, which is surprising as I have a history of adverse reactions to meds and now most foods. However, I'm certainly not special as food allergies are the second-fastest-growing allergies due to our chemical diets. Actually, I'm told, it'd be a surprise if at my age I didn't have one!

As to the vaccination, I was worried about having it in my already sore left side; they had no problem using my right arm and being afraid of pain as I kept hearing they would give the shot in my muscle. I'm such a big baby about needles, but it was barely felt.

Now I'm going to head over to PSP and see all of Bubble's artistry I've missed. She is so innovative and creative!

Snow is starting to mount up...maybe 2 inches...not enough to worry about just yet..

Good Afternoon,

Shirley, I was still sound asleep at the time of the earthquake and didn't know about it until I saw report on noon news. News just mentioned it but am guessing evening news will have stories-from-the-scene and those annoying emotional interviews with eye-witnesses.

There have been recent earthquakes in that general area and a gas pipe explosion a couple of days ago - fortunately in a rural area so no damage or injuries.

Patricia,  glad to see you here and wishing you a Good Recovery.  Love that Farrah is "taking care" of you. I'm also a big baby about needles jabbed into my arm muscle and haven't had the vaccination or any other "preventative" shots recommended for those "of a certain age".

There was a pair of bluebirds on my fence when I opened the blinds this morning.  I rarely see any bluebirds on this side of town and don't think I've ever had a pair.  Hope there was enough birdseed for their breakfasts because snow is still too high for me to comfortably get out to the feeder.

Son/dil have multiple feeders and it was fun to watch all the birds while I was at their house.

Yesterday was productive - getting caught up with Domestic Duties but I have no Plan du Jour for today - and am not in the mood to think of one.  (Sorry - feeling more than a bit grouchy about things in general and wishing everyone would Change The Subjects!!!!! :cussing: )

Off to sit in the corner until I can :playnice:

Hope Everyfriend is finding something to enjoy today.  Hugs to all....

I'm pleased that you liked the Bean Soup, Amy.  I think it is my #1 soup to rely on when the weather is yucky and cold and calls for soup.  Either bean soup or potato soup.

It has finally stopped raining here but still cloudy and dreary and chilly.  They promise sun tomorrow.  Oh, please, let them be right.  My SAD is kicking in drastically and I'm not happy with the world today.

I'm glad you are doing OK, Angel, but I know you will be glad when this is all in the past.  I'm thinking of you and wishing good things.

Too many earthquakes in Wichita, Shirley.  I think old Mother Earth is really upset with us all.  Glad it didn't do any damage.

Take care, All.

I kept my appointment today and they shot me in the arm.  It was a brief prick and I've felt no pain since.  And they did ask me if I wanted my right or left arm.  I'm glad they gave me a choice because I still have some soreness from breaking my left arm and I'm not sure if I'd know if it was the normal pain or pain from the shot.  I have and appointment for Mar. 12 for the second shot.  Then I can feel a bit more relaxed.  I'm sure this is making my kids feel better!  Maybe even my grandkids.  My oldest grandson, called me from his home in Mexico today to ask if I was feeling ok.  And four others texted me

PATRICIA, it's so good to see you posting.  And I'm sure your going to make them eat their words about how long it will take you to get back on your feet.  That's what our generation does!

I made the chicken salad for lunch and it was so good, I ate it for supper, too.  I have enough for a couple more sandwiches and I'm going enjoy every bite of it!

I copied down PHYLLIS' bean soup recipe and I have stuff on my shopping list for this week so I can make it.  I also ran across a recipe for making it in the crock pot (no bean soaking) and most of the ingredients are the same.  PHYLLIS has some that they don't so I'm going to use her recipe and their times.  I'll let you know how it works.  That won't be until next week.

I think those crows I've seen flying around here are sitting on my DISH receiver.  It went off a while ago and it's still not back on so no TV tonight.  It might be a good night to go to bed early but if I try to go too early, Mickie will get me up too early.

Right now, I'm really thirsty and I've heard that's one of the side effects of the vaccine but I've been thirsty for more than a year...maybe two so I don't think that's happening.

Funny thing...the lady that checked me in for the vaccine said, "I know you.  You used to work at WalMart!"  I admitted that I did and told her that I thought she used to work there, too.  She did!  This is a very small town!

I might be back but in case I'm not, I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, snow-free, earthquake free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

It is Friday evening and I hoped to post here every day and just did not make it!

SO pleased to see your post PATRICIA.  You have been in my thoughts and prayer and I will continue to do so everyday!  Good to read that you got your vaccine.  Hope there will be no side effects from it for you! Sweet Farrah is a good girl for watching over you🥰

JANE, yippee, you got yours too.  Also hope you will have no side effects either.  Glad you got your canning done.....

PHYLLIS, I am sorry your "SAD" has set in....but I totally understand.  We have had a cold dreary week here and some concerning family news and it is hard not to let THAT feeling take over.  There is so much sadness in our world these days.....and I certainly know that so many others are suffering much more than any of us, but it is all relevant ya know?  You take care now.  Hugs.

CALLIE, good to read you are home and hanging in there.  Many share your concerns about shots, and many are questioning IF they want to take this vaccine..... I just want everyone that has it to be OK and not have any adverse side effects...and IF they do that it w8ll not be too serious and the6 can get well SOON!

AMY, glad to read that you loved the soup......how could you not?  It sounds delicious!  A smoked pork shoulder sure sounds yummmy!

SHIRLEY, seems you are having more than your fair share of issues....I hope it is warming up there and at least you won't have to deal with that.

Pleasant dreams to ALL.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The temps are hanging in the low to mid 20s right now but supposed to go up tomorrow and Monday.  There is more snow predicted for Monday but with temps in the high 30 it probably won't lay anywhere except on the old accumulation.

LLOYD, how can you say "Life is no fun" when you have little ones to play with.  I'd give anything to have my two great grandkids close enough to see every day!

JENNY, I hope hope whatever it is that's making you sad will go away or just get better!  Life is too short to spend it worrying.  I know you have lots to worry about but I hope it's not all bad in your life.

My friend, Mavis's funeral service is today and after a lot of deep thought and torn feelings, I've decided that it would not be in the best interest of my family to go.  I will miss not sharing goodbyes with her family.  They are such nice people!

My SIL's birthday was this week and he doesn't know it yet but his son and his son's "Love" are coming up from Philadelphia today.  I'd love to go over there and see them but it's not a good idea.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!

P.S. My arm is telling me this morning that they put a needle in it yesterday.  Not bad...but not good, either.

Good morning...

Tis a tad chilly out there at the moment -15° F. Have a bit  of snow blowing to do  this morning. Need to take hubby in to pick up more urethane plus glides for the drawers if they have them.

Jane, I think you are wise to forgo the events that are coming up..better to be safe than sorry.

Lloyd, I agree with Jane...with little ones about to keep you busy how can you say life is no fun??

Jenny, try the 15 Bean soup recipe...it is so tasty and it is a meal all in one! Worrying never gets one anywhere but know how easy it is to do that. Positive thought and prayers are better.

Patricia, loved the videos. The family is very talented.

Phyllis, I hope today is a sunshiny day for you.

Better get ready for the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

So glad to see some of our Texas friends are coming back in and beginning to recover from this terrible time.  Who would have thought they would have such terrible cold to deal with!

I plan to scratch around the house but that might not get done.  I just would like to sit in the window and feel the warmth of the sun.  I may bestir myself enough some time today to make a Rustic Cherry Tart.  We'll see.

Hope you all had a good day today!  I had a few frustrations that I had to work out but I think I managed them.

I took the time of Mavis's funeral this morning to write a letter to her son and daughter telling them some of the things that made us such good friends.  I kind of felt like I was with them at the time.  It was pretty nice!

AMY, when you said you were quitting, you also said the laundry was still on the line.  Is it still out there?  I know there are times when I tell myself I'm going to quit!!!  Then I add, "right after I put this away, or right after I finish that!  Quitting is very hard to do!  It's kind of like trying to have the last word! You always think of something else to say.

Good night to Everyfriend!  I hope you had a good day!  And I wish you a peaceful night's sleep, and a happy, healthy, germ-free, snow-free sunshiny tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning from a chilly minus twenty-six Interior where we warm above zero midday and drop several points each evening. Last week, we had our blowing snowstorm, but I was otherwise occupied.

Jane, that was a nice gift to Mavis's children and a gift to yourself in memories.

It saddened me to do this, but yesterday I emailed my friend that I would no longer be able to get her groceries or other errands and also emailed the onsite Senior Services to take my name off of the volunteer list for errands.

Yesterday, I had a knock on my door, and someone had left a box of food at mine and some others' doors. I had a look-see, and I swear it was all the canned and bagged stuff that has sat at donations for ages.  I was able to slide it to one side and left it there. I certainly don't need canned fish, rice, dried beans, peas, or a gazillion cans of tomato paste.

Farrah has become a fine feline babysitter. Often I will look up, and there she is, lying on the end of the bed watching me. Or I'll wake to her nuzzling my face in the middle of the night.

Good to read about your days, Patricia, even if things aren't as "right" as a week or so ago. I do have to give myself a pep talk every so often, to adjust my head to the changes. Isn't it strange that when we were young... younger, we didn't notice "the old folks" struggling with so many ups & downs?  Guess it was a good thing to be so innocent, huh?  I did watch my grandmother's decline because I thought I was most like her, but my life has been much easier. By the way, my Tiger has decided I make a good pillow this winter. She snuggles to my arm with her face on my hand and back end by my chin, so I keep a small pillow between her fur & my face. Tom used to sleep behind my legs but since their mother stays inside closed off in the family room near the litter box, he stays in there with her. Cats rule! Would be lonely without them, huh?  The only volunteering I do anymore is when I get the hungries for some of the old fashioned meals I used to fix, I find someone that used to love as much as I did and share with them. Today I'm off to the store for a head of cabbage to make coleslaw. Years ago I put out a plea in here for a recipe & got the same one from people in 4 different states, so that's what I call it, my "4-State Coleslaw".  My mouth is watering for some & it has to sit overnight to get the flavor spread thru....

I"ll send a note to Regina to see how Gloria is doing, so she can just "reply" back. I'm betting that Gloria is getting tired of this stage & ready to get back to normal & her back rubs from Yvette.

Hi to all... we have bright sun & looks so nice with snow almost gone, not as warm as it looks so need to wrap up to go to the store. Hope to find everything I need but lots of shelves empty these days. Is that the end of the tunnel I see?????  YES!
:hello:  :happydance:

Shirley, my entire family, growing up, were hard-working farmers. If they had an issue, they just kept working because the jobs wouldn't wait on them. It was a different world then.

Not a lot of activity in here today!  That's a lot like my house....not a lot of activity here either.  I think I spent more time rubbing Arnica Gel on my sore spots than doing anything else.

I did some research on the computer and sent some emails and text messages to family members, made lunch and supper and the bed, took a couple walks, read the paper and did the crossword puzzle....not a lot more!  It was a kind of lazy day!

PATRICIA, it's so good to "see" that you're feeling better!  Keep coming back.  Giving up the volunteer positions was probably not easy for you to do but sometimes we have to think of ourselves.  Nice of Farrah to be you "sitter"!

AMY, I'm glad the laundry didn't have to blow around on the line after you "quit"!

Now I'm going to take Mickie out one more time and then hit the hay.  I have a bunch of stuff planned for tomorrow so I better go find the zzzzzs.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

We are off to town for blood work for hubby......then off to another little town to hopefully pick up drawer slides. I have phoned all over and they are like hens teeth to find but I did find them.  We have always wanted to go in this new store and now we get the chance. Each time we pass by it we say ,next time when we have time as we both know we will explore the aisles for new tools. We are also meeting sons girlfriend there, I have a 4 shelf greenhouse she can have to start her seeds in and her birthday present.

Jane, is this from shoveling that you have sore spots???

We are to get more snow M,T,W,S,S this week..gosh doesn't that just tickle ones humor.

Patricia, love Hallelujah, always have. I have tried telling people that with modern technology the scientists can develop the vaccine sooner.  Some don't listen. :( You may be able to go back into volunteering after you heal and this darn covid is smothered out. Right now it is a time to take care of you.

Shirley, I had to smile as I pictured Tiger cuddling in.  Do you remember looking at an older person when young and thinking they are old!!  Now we are that age ,if not older and we don't feel old........well not all the time anyway.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was supposed to start snowing here around 7 a.m.  That was an hour ago and nothing yet!  I'm not complaining!  It can go around us, over us, past us, ignore us and I won't mind one little bit!

AMY some of the sore sports are residuals from the broken arm and I guesss I'll have to live with them.  My left shoulder and arm sometimes get so sore that I feel like tossing it in the trash and I know it's just because I use it too much at times.  I've also developed a sore side that goes from my left BEE-hind, down my left leg in the back and then come around at the knee and goes all the way to my ankle and the top of my instep.  Most of the time it's just the top that hurts and it's bearable but when it goes all the way, I want to cry!

I have an upcoming appointment with the kinesiologist and I'm pretty sure she'll be able to do something about it. So I'm hanging in there.  And I bet that's a lot more than anyone wanted to know.  I think my left side is giving up!  But I'm not letting it do that.

I'm making the sweet tater soup today.  I'm determined!  I can almost taste it just looking at the recipe.  Wondering, has anyone ever canned Sweet Potato Soup?  Does it need the pressure canner?  Oddly enough, it's not in the Canner's Bible (My Ball Blue Book) and I haven't been able to find it on line either!  Maybe I'm just missing it.  I'll try again this morning!

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Back to a gray, dreary day after a nice sunny weekend.

Sorry to hear about the aches and pains this morning.  Hope they go away soon.

I hope you can hear about Gloria from Regina, Shirley.  I'm sure she would like to get back home.

Laundry day so I must get my breakfast and get started.

Take care, All.

The SNOW came!  We walked in it this morning and avoided it the rest of the day.  The township crew has plowed and salted the road and my kindly neighbor has cleaned my driveway and sidewalks.  So Mickie and I are just about ready to go for another walk.

The sweet tater soup is cooking and has another hour to go in the crockpot.  That's just about time for my supper.  It smells wonderful.  And I did find a way to can it.  As long as there's no flour or milk in it (there isn't) you do it just about like the potatoes in a pressure canner.   I'll try that next time!

You're right LLOYD!  There's not much action in this place.  Maybe we need some cookies in the Hidey Hole to draw people in!

Have a good rest of the day!

Here's something to make you think!  This lady lived in the general area that my gr-grandparents came from so there's hope for me yet. My bike is still waiting for a warmer day & I still love to eat, but I quit smoking when my daughter turned 13 (she's 65 now), so this lady has a few points on me but I have a few over her.... I used to say I was going to make it to 120 since my dad & his mother got to 95 & 96 and their brains were sharp as ever to the last.  Enjoy.......

Jeanne Louise Calment had the longest confirmed human lifespan on record: 122 years and 164 days. It seems that fate strongly approved of the way Madame Calment lived her life. She  was born in Arles, France, on February 21, 1875. When the Eiffel Tower was built, she was 14 year old. It was at this time that she met Vincent van Gogh. "He was dirty, badly dressed and disagreeable," she recalled in an interview given in 1988.

When she was 85, she took up fencing, and she was still riding on her bike when she reached 100. At the age of 114, she starred in a film about her life; at age 115 she had an operation  on her hip, and at age 117 she gave up smoking, having started at the age of 21 in 1896. Apparently, she didn't give it up for health reasons, but because she didn't like having to ask someone to help her light a cigarette once she was nearly blind.

In 1965, Jeanne was 90 years old and had no heirs. She signed a deal to sell her apartment to a 47-year-old lawyer called André-François Raffray. He agreed to pay her a monthly sum  of 2,500 francs on the condition that he would inherit her apartment after she died. However, Raffray not only ended up paying Jeanne for 30 years, but died before she did at the age of 77. His widow was legally obliged to continue paying Madam Calment until  the end of her days.

Jeanne retained sharp mental faculties. When she was asked on her 120th birthday what kind of future she expected to have, she replied, "A very short one."

Quotes and Rules of Life from Jeanne Louise Calment:

"I'm in love with wine."
"All babies are beautiful."
"I think I will die of laughter."
"I've been forgotten by our Good Lord."
"I've only got one wrinkle, and I'm sitting on it."
"I never wear mascara; I laugh until I cry too often."
"If you can't change something, don't worry about it."
"Always keep your smile. That's how I explain my long life."
"I see badly, I hear badly, and I feel bad, but everything's fine."
"I have a huge desire to live and a big appetite, especially for sweets."
"I have legs of iron, but to tell you the truth, they're starting to rust and buckle a bit."
"I took pleasure when I could. I acted clearly and morally and without regret. I'm very lucky."
"Being young is a state of mind, it doesn't depend on one's body, I'm actually still a young girl; it's just that I haven't looked so good for the past 70 years."
At the end of one interview, in response to a journalist who said, "I hope we will meet again sometime next year."
She replied, "Why not? You're not that old; you'll still be here."

Good morning..

We had a good day yesterday, driving wasn't too bad in the snow. We just took our time, met up and exchanged  items. We were lucky as we came home with a cookie tin filled with all kinds of homemade cookies. We did do a bit of a tour  in the new lumber store and would love to go back and see more!

I did dance with MR SB after lunch. we had about 3 inches of new snow and I had heard that rain may follow and moving wet snow is not fun!

Shirley is that woman reminds me of you and Jane!!

Jane, I bet your supper was delicious!!

Better scoot, store opens at 7 am and I had better get dressed.....

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for a bit trying to make myself appear busy!  I don't know if it worked or not but I've got a couple of clean bathrooms to show for it.

Cooper is here to spend some time while Frankie goes shopping and to a drs. appointment.  He hasn't been here for a while due to Frankie's slow starts in the morning and too much snow.  I think he missed us.

We're supposed to get some higher temps this week (one day into the low 50s so some of the snow will probably melt.  There is one day snow is predicted but the temp is supposed to be a high of 45 so I'm guessing that won't last.  I'm in favor of SPRING!  And I promise not to complain about the heat this summer

AMY, I don't know of anything in my life that resembles that lady that SHIRLEY introduced to us.  Except maybe getting older.  She has a lot more on the ball than I do!  As to age, I've already surpassed all of my ancestors in age but my sister still has me beat.  As long as she lives she'll be 16 months older than I am and she isn't showing any signs of leaving in the near future.  In fact, 20 years ago, when we lost our kid sister, I told her she has to outlive me because I'm never going through that again!

Guess I better try to "get a wiggle on" but that always makes my pants twist too and that's very uncomfortable.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone! I've been watching the Greenfield SC zoo's cam. Autumn, after 263 days, had her sixth calf, a girl on the 21st. The baby, 148 pounds and six feet tall, was born after two-hour labor. The baby is dropped directly on the ground and the fall starts its breathing. I can't even imagine carrying a baby that size! A giraffe won't get pregnant again until 16 months.

Day is done,
Gone the Sun,
From the Lake
From the hill,
From the sky.
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh!

I sing this every night in the yard while I wait for Mickie!  It's peaceful and it brings back memories of my Girl Scout Camping days!

And now I'm ready for bed.  If Frankie makes it in the morning, it will be 5:30 when she drops off Cooper.  We'll be up and about EARLY!  So I'm off to the haystack.  I hope I sleep well because I probably won't get any napping time tomorrow.  I have to make a run to Davy's (The Mennonite Store) and Frankie will be getting home in the afternoon just about the time I usually close my eyes for a shortie.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, no-snow tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

:hb2: News from Regina (Gloria's daughter) :hb2:

Well good news on Mom. She will find out tomorrow what day she will be going home... either Thursday or Friday! Cannot be soon enough for her!! The beginning of this mess, I would have said she would not be going home. All three of us kids kept telling her if she didn't eat she wouldn't be going home. She was so weak.
But today she walks the halls of the rehab place and they even have her taking a couple of stairs!
She knows now she has to eat, and she will have to be walking the halls of where she lives to get some exercise.
She has bounced back and at less than 2 months til 90 I think she is amazing!! Of course she's my Mom so a bit biased!!😁😍
So when she gets home she won't probably be on as often as she was but please tell everyone I thank them for their prayers and good thoughts! She will have the cards to open up and how marvelous that will be!
Thanks Shirley for being the go between! A very important job it is!!
Regina

I had my visit with the eye surgeon, 1st cataract comes off the 8th of March, next week the other goes & takes a month of healing before glasses made so we'll see how it goes. I may have a problem seeing the computer depending how this goes. My daughter is coming to town for the whole week & day after, I'm grateful she has time since both boys are super busy right now.

I did drive home myself after having the eyes dilated today. Was tougher than I expected, seems the eyes kept getting foggier as time passed... BUT I made it & didn't even scratch the car pulling into my crowded driveway & garage. We had beautiful weather today & slightly cooler tomorrow. The surprise lilies are at least 2" out of the ground but I expect we have a little winter waiting to show up, never know. Much to do inside & out the next 2 weeks, I'll be checking in every day but I don't "multi-task" as good as I used to... haha....get side tracked and forget what I started.

Amy, here you are still sno-blowing & I'm hoping the kids will put my trug together so I can start planting my garden!  Here's to tomorrow & the next day!  I'm still enjoying the tales of the 122 year old lady, we can all give her style a thumbs up & laugh till we cry.

Good morning..

Not bad out there this morning a temp of 20° but wih more snow or rain in the forecast.

Didn't get the snow raked off the roof so that is a job for today and I need to make bread.

Patricia, that is a distance to go for a breath of air! I have watched farm animals give birth and each time it is a miracle to see.

Shirley, that is good news about Gloria!! I do hope she gets to come home. You can tell Regina we also think her Mom is amazing. You will be so amazed after surgery at how good you can see. My friend had that surgery and now does not wear his glasses, that he has worn for years!!

Better go rake the roof and get some of the snow off before we get rain on it. We just do this to take the weight off the roof, it would likely be ok but this makes sure it is ok.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

well Good Morning everyone. thank God we have S and friends. to seaport and be supported with. Regina we all miss your mom being here to put her Owen Nickle's worth in. I personal am looking forward to getting our Motor home repaired and traveling some more. I am 83 years old Last august 27, th. and still drive even in city traffic. Nancy says I do better in city driving because I do not Gawk there as much. My mom used to say you have to watch front back and both sides all at the same time. I think other drivers have gone craze the way the dart in and out around us, nearly taking our nose off as they pass. and not using there merrows as they cut in enough. you need to look to your side and side and rear all as you pass.as a former truck driver I learned to do that. end of lesson. Have a good day and a better tomorrow.

There's one piece of pumpkin pie left. If anyone wants to grab it, it's in the Hidey Hole.  I've eaten as much as I can eat and there's still more pumpkin in the freezer to make more.

So good to hear from Regina and how well Gloria seems to be doing!  She's an amazing lady!  I can't wait to hear from her in her own words! Thanks, SHIRLEY for keeping us informed.

A good Wednesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.  Half the week is gone already. Monday a new In N Out Hamburger place opened near us.  We drove by just to see how crowded it was, and it was not bad at all. Very unusual for these places as the last one that opened here the lines to get a burger were fourteen hours long🤪 NO WAY would I ever wait that long in line for anything let alone a burger! It felt rather special to be getting a DOUBLE 🍔 Double, the sandwich they are famous for!  For those that are not familiar with this chain, it is a California place that is highly coveted.  I have really never cared much for them, but this Colorado one tasted very good to me!

Yesterday we helped Dave out with the children as Michele is not feeling well at all.

I know many of you pray for this gal daily, and we sure do appreciate it.  At some point we are hopeful that she will catch a break and start to feel better 🙏🙏🙏

Tomorrow we will get our second dose of the Covid Vaccine. Unfortunately a storm is coming in this afternoon and we are going to get a significant amount of snow so the roads may be a bit dicey.  We made our appointment mid day incase this happened.

Happy to read you are getting your first shot SANDY! I wish you well!

SHIRLEY, happy to read you are scheduled for your first cataract surgery.  We thank you for sharing the wonderful news from Regina, regarding Gloria.  Our prayers certainly were answered!  I hope she will be able to join in very soon.  We sure have missed you GLORIA!   Excited to read you have a true to be put together....I am sorry I missed anything you might have said about it.....as I am curious where you found one to buy?

JOY, nice to see your post.  Glad you are doing better.  Keep it up!

JANE, I am not much for pumpkin pie, so I did not take your piece of pie because someone else will enjoy it much more than I would.  Thank you for sharing!

AMY, every thing seems good in your life...keep it up!

Best run.....we are keeping Dave and Michele's dog for a few days and she wants to play.....lucky me!

Have a good day.

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm on my way to bed.  It's been a long day and I can't say I'm sorry to see it ending.  Getting up at 5:30 is for the birds....REALLY!

Today was a gorgeous almost Spring-like day.  The sun shone; the ice melted and the temperature reached 49!

I made my trip to Davy's and I sure do love that place.  I got some nice tomatoes, some apples, homemade bread, 2 whoopie pies for a treat, fresh grapes, spices and other stuff.

Tomorrow is National Chili Day and I'm going to celebrate it.  I have the ground beef out of the freezer and into the fridge to thaw and everything that was in the cupboard is sitting on the counter waiting to be used.  It's one of Frankie's fave meals too so she'll get some to take home with her when she picks up Cooper after work tomorrow.

SANDY, how's your arm?  Any reaction?  Mine was fine!

Now I'm going to head for the haystack!  My eyes are half way closed right now!  I hear the zzzzzs hollering for me and I'm sure I'm going to sleep well tonight.  It's been a long time since I got up at 5:30 and stayed up for the day!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, snow-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

At least it is not snowing.....yet!! I am going to coast today as yesterday was busy! Part of the roof was raked, then I had my dance with Mr SB...after that I did laundry and made bread!

Today I need to take the van in for an oil  change then home to pick up hubby a head to the bookkeepers and drop off the tax papers. After that I am only coasting :))

Sandy way to go!! Nice to have that done to have some relief.

Joy, always a blessing to see you ..we are one day closer to Spring where we can enjoy the nice weather.

Jenny, I think Michele is a trooper. She doesn't give up and keeps one foot ahead of the other..she is a fighter for sure .As always prayers for her and the family.
Lloyd, hope your knee is ok. I think you and Kyle are buddies as he fell the other day going into the lumber store and skinned his right knee. What are we going to do with you two men??

Better take a peek outside and see if Mr SB and I have a date..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

HAPPY NATIONAL CHILI DAY, EVERYFRIEND!!  I'm up and attem!  Have to get my day started before Cooper arrives at 9:30.  I want to get some cole slaw made this morning and the meat browned for the chili.

Then I need to do a load of laundry so I have something to wear and something to sleep in during the coming days and nights.

JENNY, AMY is definitely right about Michele!  She is a fighter and a trooper!  She just keeps on keeping on!  It's a pleasure to keep her in my prayers and I'm sure God is on her side!

LLOYD and KYLE, WATCH YOUR STEP!

I wish everyfriend a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Sorry I've been absent for a couple of days but I've been busy.  Finally was able to get an appointment to have the car inspected and David spent yesterday afternoon doing that.  Thankfully, all was OK and it passed.  Now I can send off the money to the Motor Vehicle for the tax and fees and that will be off my mind.  One more thing I can cross off the list.  Now I must think about filling out Income Tax forms.  I am really NOT looking forward  to that.

Grocery pick-up today and that should take care of the big running-around chores for the week.  It is a bright, sunny day so all should go well.  Rain is supposed to come in again tomorrow.

I'm so glad to hear that some of you are beginning to get your Covid shots.  I'm due to get my second shot next Monday.  It will be a relief to get that behind me.  David will get his 2nd shot on the 9th.

Take care, All.

I've started a post several times but before I could get the size/color/etc attached the phone would ring or something & lost the post. I am not keeping on track these days.

My appointment for first visit with surgeon was March 30 but I told them I could be there if they had a cancelation with only a couple hours or 24 hours notice. I hated to wait so late knowing it would be a long stretch between eyes & then getting the glasses made before I could hit the road.

When they called it was with less than 24 hour notice but I made it. Now is panic time  :o  :-\   Got the appointment already with the  optometrist that will test for the glasses. I've never worn glasses to read but have worn for driving since 1984 so opted for the same pattern.

About the trug.... one son wanted to build but other son looked up online & ordered. All 3 kids will put it together probably when daughter comes to haul me around for cataract surgery. They will get time together (like kids) and Mom will make sure plenty of their fav foods. I have all the instruction links from Amy bookmarked so hopefully it will be set for planting mid March!

So happy to hear about the shots already given, makes me feel safer since I don't dare.

Jenny, sorry Michele is having more problems. So tough for her but I've always felt situations like hers can be even harder for everyone that loves the patient.... so little we can do to make life easier/better so our heart bleeds.

Phyllis, I'm also struggling with putting tax papers together... tax man answered my phone call from hospital bed... Covid!  All I can do is wait & hope he comes thru okay since he is the only one that has done my taxes since Cas died!  Too many directions for my brain to cope.... Should be making appointment for check up with Dr before cataract surgery. Allergies already on full flow... and I can't take anything to slow down the nose during surgery. Panic time!

Good Afternoon,

Can't believe it's already after noon!  I know I didn't start very early but hadn't realized the rest of the morning had gone so fast.

Reason is that I've been asked to submit a family story (essay?) for the museum archives in my hometown.  This is the sort of thing I love to do and have been gathering material/pictures all morning.  Have also "organized" (so to speak) the 3 ring binder I use for making notes and writing drafts for this sort of thing, which I have done about other family members.  Head is buzzing with ideas for organizing; hope that continues.

Shirley,  I am so proud of you for scheduling the cataract surgery!!!!
And so glad to read the news about Gloria.

Sandy and others,  so glad the first covid shot has gone well for you.  I haven't been able to get in to find a site and make an appointment on the one web site this county has available to access for information.  I know there aren't any sites in my part of town and I'm not comfortable driving myself all over the city.  Neither will I ask anyone to take me miles and miles - as some have done. I personally know people who have literally driven a 200 mile round trip for the first shot - and will have to do so again for their second one.
If/when this county gets its act together about making it easy to make contact for appointments I will do so.

Jane, do you put beans in your chili?  Hispanic neighbor in Leadville said her Mexican family never did - and I prefer it that way.
Someone can have my slice of pumpkin pie, too.
Haven't heard of whoopie pies in a long time.  Hubby used to love the "bought" ones; I don't think I ever tried to make them.

Jenny, I agree that Michele is a fighter and am praying all goes well for her.
I think your cold front is coming this way but will run out of snow before it gets here.
Weather guru said we "only" got a bit more than an inch of actual moisture from the 10+ inches of snow last week because it was so "dry" (they kept saying "fluffy"  ;D ). I remember sons being unhappy because they got wet out in the snow here instead of just brushing it off like they could in Leadville.

Guess I'd better see what's going on in the rest of my little world and tummy is mentioning "lunch".

Hope Everyfriend is finding something to enjoy about today.

Don, thank you for Celtic Thunder! I had never heard of them and spent some time browsing through and bookmarking their various performances!

I'm surprised as I thought that the organized health centers' home program was national. They're the ones who enabled me to have my shot by coming here. I, too, had no reaction, for which I was glad as I tend to be the odd one out. Here they were at various mall pharmacies, health centers, and a large convention center. I recently learned that they are very close to approving a single-shot vaccination.

Dr. Fauci has said that masks and other protocols will be needed through this year due to misinformation and anti-vaxxers. I hope they have a more comprehensive program put in place as I understand that COVID-19 and SARs are not going anywhere, and these shots will become like the annual flu shots.

Patricia, I edited my post to say "the one web site this county has available to access for information".
Lots of complaints about that as well as issues trying to call the number listed.

There are "mega sites" at various hospitals and other large venues but none near me.

I like the idea of the single-shot but it hasn't been mentioned in Oklahoma.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for February 15, 2021
Post by: patricia19 on February 25, 2021, 04:22:31 PM
Callie, I have relatives and friends in Iowa, Utah, Florida, and Texas, where the vaccinations have slowed or even stopped entirely for different reasons. I've also been told that many healthcare workers aren't getting the shots because even tho they work with vulnerable populations, they, the workers, are generally underpaid with very little sick leave. They HAVE to work each day they can. Johnson's single-dose vaccination is close to approval, https://www.yahoo.com/news/j-js-coronavirus-shot-could-172706542.html

This is why we've needed a comprehensive, nationwide program that can address all these various issues.

CALLIE, I did put the beans in the Chili way back when I first started making it because I like them.  When I was married, my new husband claimed to like chili but when I made it, he always ate around the beans.  When my kids came along they were supposed to take a "No Thank You" helping of anything they really didn't like and they were pretty good about that.  It had to be at least 3 bites and some of them learned to like things they thought they didn't like.

As time passed, my husband still managed to eat around the beans in the chili so the kids decided that it was OK if they did too.  I decided to stop putting the beans in.

Many years later, when my son lived alone and so did I, he decided that it was a good idea for us to have 2 meals a week together.  One I would cook and one he would manage.  Sometimes, on his part it was take out from a place we both liked.  Sometimes we went out together, and sometimes he cooked.  He's a pretty good cook.  One night after we had Chili.  He said, "Why did you ever stop putting the beans in the chili?"  It turns out he likes them, too.  So I started putting them back in.  Now, that was a very long answer to your question.  I hope it wasn't too boring.

Jane, not boring at all!!! Loved it!

Local son and I had the same arrangement every two weeks when his wife gets a manicure after work. That got messed up during our Weather Spell and this week may have been the next time. Apparently we both lost track and it didn't happen. I don't even remember whose turn it is.
Guess I should offer to cook next week. ;)

Time to hit the hay..

I did have a break dance with Mr SB as the plow had put a windrow of wet snow at the head of the driveway.
Took a loaf of bread to our neighbour and we exchanged loaves!! She felt up to making bread!!

Tomorrow it is another early start. Grocery store for 7 am then to the lumber yard.......home drop off lumber and groceries  (don't need much ...just milk and some produce.  Then back into town to take a lady to  get her groceries and to the bank. We may try a garbage run if time and weather permits.

I loved reading the dates Callie and Jane had/have with their sons....special times for sure.

donklan, you're welcome..

AS Janie would say I am all in but my boot laces.

Good night, sleep tight and yes don't let the bed bugs bite :)

Good evening.  Just a quick hello as I check in on you all.

Bob and I received our second vaccine today and so far all is well.  Hope it stays that way!  We had a doozy of a snow storm last night receiving 14.5" according to the local news.  This amount certainly did help our moisture deficit.  The roads were not bad at all just a lot of splash back so kept having to spray the windows.

Happy to read you will be getting your cataract surgery soon, SHIRLEY.

Hoping you are just feeling like a cold coming on, SANDY, and not a real cold.  Feel better

APPRECIATE as always the nice supportive words and continued prayers for Michele, Amy, Shirley, Jane and Callie.  Trying to just pray for a successful treatment for her tomorrow.

I did not sleep well last night, so I am headed off to get a better rest tonight.  Take care and be well.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're up and attem around here.  Mickie decided that 6;15 was a good time to get up today and since she thought it might be a good idea to jump down off the side of the bed, I decided that it was a good time to get up, too, and give her a lift.  My bed is kind of high and the floor is a bit slippery.  I don't want any broken legs.

We've tended to all the "necessaries" this morning and now we're waiting to Cooper to arrive around 9:30.

I'm not sure what's on the agenda for today.  It's one of those days that I allow "things" to demand attention.  I have a book started to take up the slack and something to cook if I feel like it.

The chili was very good for supper last night and Frankie took a meal home with her.  If I get a good report from her, she'll get another meal's worth today.  And since you all turned down the pumpkin pie, I finished it for my dessert last night.

JENNY, my prayers are with Michele today and I also want to thank you for keeping the snow in the mountains with you and not sending any more of it East.

I'm getting the stuff tomorrow for the bean soup and that's on next week's agenda.

I think I might collect the throw rugs and wash them today.  And that means it would be a good time to swiffer the floors.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

We've lost our sun again.  Back to a cloudy, dreary morning with rain coming in this afternoon.  Supposed to be that way all weekend and into next week.  :(  I have my second shot on Monday and had hoped for good weather for that long drive through Raleigh.  I'm hearing stories that the second shot has a little more of an effect.  I hope that it isn't too much.

Your chili sounds so good, Jane, and I have some ground beef in the freezer so I think I'll get it out and make a start on a pot of chili....with beans.  That's the way we like it....and lots of chili powder.  Everyone in our house has always liked beans of all kinds.  I got a pkg. of red lentils in my grocery order yesterday and was thinking lentil soup but chili sounds better.

I'm wondering if Gloria is home from the rehab. center.  Hope she is doing well and that we will hear from her soon.  Also, keeping Michelle in my thoughts and prayers.

As soon as your cataract surgery is over, Shirley, you will wonder why you didn't have it done sooner.  It makes a huge difference and I know it will go well for you.

Take care, All.

JENNY, I'm glad to hear that Michele's last treatment was successful and that they have chosen to attack the cells again in the same way.  I'm sorry that she has to suffer all the pain and discomfort and I pray that this new treatment will be successful and that the next treatment on her back will be successful.

Laundry and baking are on the agenda and washing floors! Thought I would get the floor washing done yesterday but
ran out of steam.

Jenny, that sounds like hope if they do the gamma knife again.

Jane , we like our chili with beans also.

I live in Cary, North Carolina, Lloyd.  Cary has a population of about 160,000-180,000 and we are just next door west of Raleigh, which is North Carolina's state capital.  This is a big, busy area of North Carolina that is growing all the time.  The 5 county area around Raleigh has a population of approximately  2,726,000 or more.  Probably closer to 3 million now.

Cloudy today but not raining.  And warmer.  I won't complain.

We had the chili last night and it was very good.  Thanks for the idea, Jane.

I wish Michelle and Dave could have some good news for a change.  Still keeping them and you and Bob in my prayers, Jenny.

Take care, All.

AMY, I neglected to comment on how easy it is for us to deal with these big snow storms...we just watch the snow removal team take care of it...it is a part of our monthly HOA fees!  They do not always do the best job, but I try to close my eyes and just remember what a good job I used to do when I did have to do it! Hahaha. When we got ready to go to our Covid Vaccine appointment the drive was cleared but a huge stack of snow was at the end, so Bob had to go knock it down so we could safely get out!  They eventually came back and plowed it more.

Quick note from Regina, I was worried since Gloria was supposed to go home the end of this week. Here's what happened... "Sadly mom has not been able to go home. The c-Papp has come back. But they caught it really quick this time and hopefully it will only be a short time longer and she'll be able to go home. Tho she's kind of worried of staying alone for the first week or so. Not sure how it will all work out."   Hopefully this will work out so she can manage like Lloyd does.

I'm working on getting my BP down so the Dr will do the cataract surgery. Naturally being a week end no way to catch up with the doctors. Willing to try another med & need to get started fast. It isn't going to go down without pills this time, so going to yell "UNCLE".  I can get it down with Bayer 325 aspirin but can't take them with eye surgery. Without aspirin it's over 200 over 80s but can knock it down within an hour with aspirin. Side effects awful with BP med.

Hugs & prayers for all in need. Sweet dreams.... Love ya, Shirley

Hello Everyfriend!  Got a lot done...after my neighbor came over and jumped my motor on the car.  I can't believe it wouldn't start.  I couldn't get to the recycling so when Cathy brought my stuff from WM she took the recycling.  I was just going to wait until the next time but she insisted.

The toilet has been a bit sluggish lately so I did a natural unclogging and it worked.  I'm going to do it once a week as the guy on line suggested.

Now I'm ready for the haystack.  We had a bit of snow this morning then it turned to rain and then stopped.  We're supposed to get rain most of the day tomorrow.  That will remove a lot more of the snow accumulation.  Maybe Spring is out there somewhere!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, snow-free, sunshiny tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Shirley ..

Regarding your BP...  Are  you careful
about the amount of sodium that you eat?

I only asked because I recently we on a real
low sodium diet and my BP has dropped
significantly ...

Of couse that meant that I had to give up
everything that I was eating,  and eat only
fresh fruit and vegetables,  chicken and fish.

Hold the condoments  and salt.
(unless they are sodium free) ..

Which can be found.  I gave a whole
pantry full of cans of food that
had a lot of sodium in it.

I am so weak that I had to clean out
my apartment for everything that contained
too much sodium.      Live and learn!

My weight dropped about 6 pounds and my bp
went way down...  and I feel better and
can breath better...

My heart really likes it eating a heart healthy
diet...  But sadly I had to say good bye
to the foods that I chose to eat before
restricting soduium in  my diet.

Good luck with you cataract surgery...
I had my one good eye done and it is remarkable
how much better I can see.  I only need a
little help now with reading and computer
work..  Distance,  I can see fine.

Good luck,  Sandy

I know, Sandy, having just sympathized with you about giving up sodium .... I really could give up chocolate much easier.  For sure I need to not just cut back, my salt shaker gets refilled constantly and I always have bags of chips of all kind to munch. I just figured as much as I craved it I must NEED it. Wrong!!  You are much stronger than I am.... but I did quit smoking back in the day, with no slip backs. This is crunch time if I want that eye surgery so will do whatever it takes. I really did forget about the salt & was only thinking pills & some kind of "cocktail" (vinegar, beet juice, etc) that my son-in-law drinks when his goes up & he also doesn't want to depend on pills if he can manage "naturally". Thanks for the reminder, I did forget & that is a big/major problem for me!

Good morning.

No new snow today but the snow from yesterday is still in the driveway. I did get some removed but then it was just too heavy(wet) to move. I hope it is drier this morning and I can clean up the snow.

Shirley, thank you for the news on Gloria. I hope she gets to come home soon. We have PSW's  (personal support workers) here and they will come into the home  to help, hope she has something like that to help. I know Yvette has been a God send for her too.

Tome, I also have her cds and enjoy them. Glad you liked the music and hope you find her cds'

Jenny, would like your workers to help here! I must deal with this snow today and I do hope it is easier to move today as my muscles are telling me  they are here.

Sandy, salt is the culprit for sure but so tasty on items! Growing up we didn't have a lot of store bought snacks and now that we can afford them our body is saying no no no. :tickedoff:

Lloyd, hope you had another good nights rest..

Better get ready for the dance.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Well, Sandy, after a night-mare of thinking about the loss of salt, I decided "just a tad" on a hard boiled egg wouldn't matter. I eat something so my aspirin doesn't cause an uproar on an empty stomach, before going to church & then on to breakfast with how ever many family members show up. Today, (to go because of COVID) I settled for an apple fritter 'cause I don't put SALT on them!  Okay, I will give up, but taking some mental adjusting, for sure. You did get my attention, and thank you (I think). My brain is running amuck, soon as I put that BP cuff on I can feel it raising in my ears. Staying over 200 without an aspirin so scares me to think this could cause me to NOT get the cataract surgery over with, I hate things dragging out.

Sorry, folks, I am being a basket case about this... NOT afraid of pain or even the surgery, but what the medications they inject will do. Should any medication go wrong they don't have the option to give me something to counter the effect because I've proven to be allergic to the 2 meds used for that. Scary for me & also the doctors & anesthesiologist, kind of ties their hands. I am rambling... yes, I am.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's been a busy morning so far and after lunch Cathy is coming over to go over some insurance papers with me.  I told her I think insurance was invented to confuse the elderly!  He answer? "It confuses me too. but I have Lyn to help me out!"  Cathy works in the local Agency on Aging office and Lyn is the gal in there who attempts to help old people understand insurance.  Thank God for Lyn!

SHIRLEY, I sent you an email.  Did you get it or is it floating around out there in space?

I better go get my lunch eaten before Cathy shows up.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Shirley, I'm allergic to certain foods, and last December had to go through the same type of cleanout Sandy's done. Yes, it's hard at first, but the benefits are amazing! Not only that but once your salt addiction is lessened, food tastes wonderful!  I also have adverse reactions to meds, such as I will wake up under anesthesia. Aspirin makes my heart race, so I use Tylendal if needed. There is a name for this, paradoxical effect and it's actually widespread. It sounds as if you have a version too.

Shirley, I don't think I've ever heard of taking an aspirin for your blood pressure?
To keep your blood flowing well thru your arteries, yes.  I discovered something at the drugstore:  BPH - Blood Pressure Health, which is a drug free Blood Pressure Support.  It is a beet formula, much like what your son-in-law uses.  You take 2 caplets with water, twice a day.  That might help you.  I started using a low-salt regimen, back when my hubby had his initial heart attack.  Never added salt to anything I cooked, and gently salted at the table.  Got to where I never really needed to add it.

I have a dear friend & neighbor whose BP runs sky-high.  They've put her on BP meds, but they don't seem to work for her.  Now, as far as diet, she is allergic to practically everything and especially processed foods, but doesn't add salt, or use it on the foods she can eat.

I am sorry you have such a multitude of problems and are worried about the upcoming eye surgery.  I think your having consumed such a great deal of salt earlier on (McDonald's biscuit/sausage w/gravy, et. LOL) makes everything seem tasteless to you now.  But, you have to do, what you have to do!

Good luck with it all, and I will remember you especially in my prayers.

Joanne

The snow has been cleaned up and not without a fight! :knuppel2:  Gosh the wet snow in certain places made sure one earned their keep!! Now the snow has stopped and rain has taken ver.....not much  just a light drizzle.

Jane, twice now I have heard the crows calling here today...they were gone all winter other than a fly by but nothing from the ones I fed last winter. When we were at the dump on Fri, I notice crows...um..chasing each other :-[ not something that was noticed all winter....I think Spring is on its way!!

We both are tuckered  this evening and I am certain bed time will be early. Kyle made "tops" for the trugs and today we put the long top on the trug.

Ok, where is Lloyd???

Hello Everyfriend!  As Cathy and I went over all the insurance plans that Lyn had printed out for us, my mind got "blurrier" and "blurrier".  And when we were close to a decision, I was making mental notes of all the phone calls I'd have to make, opening one more plan and cancelling 3 and not looking forward to it.  Than Cathy started gathering up the papers and she said, "Lyn said this will take until April 1 and then it will be active.  She's going to start calling all these people this week".  I perked up!  I didn't have to make the calls!  Lyn would do it!  I think I'll adopt her!

The rest of the day I just did stuff around here that jumped out in my way....a load of laundry, some swiffering, put the dishes away from the dishwasher, made dog food, odds and ends.  Now I'm heading for the haystack.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, snow-free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
