A Mother's Day Surprise

by Alan Smith (05/08/2010) | Timely Truths
Two children ordered their mother to stay in bed one Mother's Day morning. As she lay there looking forward to being brought breakfast in bed, the smell of bacon floated up from the kitchen.
Finally, the children called her to come downstairs. She found them both sitting at the table eating bacon and eggs.

"As a surprise for Mother's Day," one explained, "we decided to cook our own breakfast."

I find it very difficult to enthuse over the current news. Just when you think that at least the outlook is so black that it can grow no blacker, it worsens, and that is why I do not like the news, because there has never been an era when so many things were going so right for so many of the wrong persons.

Good morning...

Another lovely day in the making here. Will be working outside and hope the bugs are not bad. Blackflies are out but so far not biting.

Bubble , thank you for the new beginning. Ogden Nash and Dorothy Parker would make a good couple.

Lloyd, good morning to you also.

Enjoy your day and stay  safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a gorgeous day today.  The temps didn't get below 44 overnight and they're going into the mid 70s today with partly sunny being the prediction.  This is my kind of day.

Frankie spent the night last night and she was out the door on her way to work at 5:30 a.m. this morning.  We talked about a lot of things and she said she's planning on coming over here to clean on her next day off...that's Monday!  I didn't mention it then but I'm going to be ready with the stuff and have her help me wash windows.  It's something I can't do by myself any more and she likes that job.  I'll try to find a chance to talk it up when she gets home from work.

BUBBLE, thanks for the nice, clean, new Soda Shoppe and for the "Entertainment Corner"!  It's always nice to have good entertainment with my coffee!

I better get moving or Mickie will be telling me it's time for her walk.  I'll have to do the two of them separately this morning because Cooper is way to speedy for Mickie on a long walk and she always wants the full circle in the morning  before the sun starts beating down.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Thanks, Bubble, for posting one of my old graphics.  It has always been one of my favorites and I keep reminding myself of that saying more and more often these days.  My steps may be much slower now and a bit wobblier but if they are going forward then I'm doing OK.

Dorothy Parker and, especially Ogden Nash, are two of my favorite literary people.  Thanks for the smile you gave me.  I'm thinking of you often right now.  I hope you are safe.

A beautiful morning here and no rain.  We don't plan to go anywhere since gasoline is still hard to find.  More and more stations are getting new supplies in now that the pipeline is back running but it is still hit and miss with many still having little or no gas.  Seems like just one crisis after another but we manage to get through them eventually.  And NO masks!  But, 'most everyone is still being cautious and wearing them in public....at least, for now.

Very nice to see a nice chatty post from you, Gloria.  More like old times when I saw your name pop up.

Take care, All.

I am not going to complain of this heat......but  it came fast and furious! We just take off layers and hope we don't scare the neighbours  :2funny: Did the weed eating after I filled the spool and watered some plants/seeds. Made some cinnamons to have with our tea and ready now to plant more.

Phyllis, you are right, one crisis after another in this world. We just lost a friend to covid, he was fighting cancer for a long time but covid was the real enemy. I hope your problem with gasoline soon corrects itself. Saw on the news that a man had filled plastic bags with gas and cringed at the thought!!

Loved all the readings but had a good horse laugh at the Mother's Day gift from the kids. Thank you, Bubble. Be safe, my friend.

Well, Amy, I did read the suggestion about how to help set those tomatoes on and decided if they can't do it on their own, they can be PLUCKED OUT OF THE TRUG! I am in one of those "don't mess with me moods" and going to take charge. Wellllll... thinking about it anyway.  ???  :-[   I am really enjoying the salads, just wilted lettuce that is so tender my mouth waters thinking of it.

Phyll, we are having a typical Kansas day that you would roll your eyes at. Off & on showers or storms with bright sun popping out that makes us concentrate on how to race to the store & back because "it MIGHT hail!" I'm waiting for my gr-son to call me back to see if he needs gas. I have a dollar off for 35 gallons & my little Encore holds 15, I think, this is only 3rd time I've filled it since new. We park on each side of the pump & pass the dispenser through because you have to purchase the whole 35 gallons at one time. When filling the motorhome it's no problem because it has a 55 gal tank. I buy a lot of gift cards, this month I have $4 to use & I've been eager to run to MO to take advantage of that $140 worth of free gas. With the price of gas going up so fast, it will help.

Jane, I used the jet setting on my hose last week to wash off the spider webs & mud dauber nest behind the shutters & overhang of roof... and since I got water on the windows & went ahead & gave them a wash. Trouble is I have storm windows over the double pane Andersen windows & the water went inside to steam up. When Cas was alive he would get out the ladder & uncrew the storms so I could clean in & out. When the previous owner had the storms put on he allowed them to REMOVE the hinges/elbows so can't open them like that. 'Tis a problem. Finally dried out & I am surprised, didn't streak. When I had all the trim repainted a few years ago the painters took all the storms off to paint so I cleaned windows like crazy. Gave them a bonus for helping me so they could put them back up as soon as the paint dried. Yes, they do need cleaning again but I can still see through... haha...

Think I'd better eat lunch & check with gr-son to see if he needs gas.... So far today all I have accomplished is trimmed my hair & did my shower/hair wash & fed cats twice. The wind just started blowing like crazy but sun is out, better have a look at radar. Such is life in Kansas.

Tip

in Windows 10.

If you have a mouse with a wheel on it you can enlarge things by holding the Ctrl key down and spinning the wheel either way to make things bigger or smaller.
If you do not have a mouse wheel, you can hold the Ctrl key down and tap the - or + on the right side of your keyboard, to make things bigger or smaller that way too.

Good morning..

Beautiful day in the making here..

Picking up some groceries then onto the hardware store for paint.

Managed to get more planting done yesterday but need to do a bit more. I can imagine food prices will be high and anything I can can, freeze or pickle is going to get done from all this planting.

Bubble, thank you for that tip.

Shirley even if you just shook he plant that may help. Fresh vegetables are always the best!

Birds have stopped hollering, must know I am up.. :2funny:

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  it's a beautiful day in Central PA!  It only went to the mid 40s overnight and is supposed to hit the low 70s this afternoon.  And that's what is predicted for the week.  My kind of weather!

Frankie spent the night again last night but she didn't have to be to work until 8 this morning.  She gone and the doggies are all taken care of and snoozing.  And I'm goofing off!  I forgot how busy the mornings can be when we're getting someone off to work!

Dinner is planned and Frankie will stay.  I don't know what her plan is for tonight.  I guess we'll find out.

I'm going to go play my word games and than get busy.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

I am so sorry to hear of all the problems you are having (politically speaking)

Not too busy in here today!  I posted at 8:30 this morning, someone els posted around 1 and now here I am again at 10.  Where is everyone?

Frankie picked up Cooper and they went home tonight.  No company!  She's off tomorrow and I think she's planning to sleep in.  I know I am!  I have a ear appt at 1:30 but that gives me the whole morning to get ready!

I'm off to the haystack now and I think I'll sleep well.  I'm suffering from "left over tireds" from getting up so early the last two days and for having to forgo my naps.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Going to be a warm one today so will do outside work first after we come back from the lumber yard.
Yesterday was a perfect day of doing nothing after the groceries.

Jane, I managed to sneak in a nap must have caught your zzs as I was down for over an hour. I look forward to these power naps and then I am ready to go again.

Hope we hear from Gloria, Joy, Phyllis and Lloyd today. Lloyd don't be wearing yourself out getting ready for the auction.

Better saddle up and get going. (another one for you Bubble)

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

From almost 9 a.m. to about 3:30 no one was in for coffee, tea or sodas.  The place was so empty it echoed!  I sure hope everyone was out enjoying this lovely day!  It was beautiful in Central PA!!

I got a lot done...including returning my hearing aids to the ear dr.  I just plain can't keep them in!  They're the kind that hook over your ears and then get inserted and they kept popping out!  So she did a form of my ear today and ordered the kind that go right into your ears.  It will be 2 to 3 weeks until I get them.  I think they'll be better because glasses, sunglasses and face maskes and hats and caps won't interfere.

Now I'm going to collapse.  Frankie came over and cleaned for me today and I'm tired from just keeping out of the way.  With all the clean and the windows all open to let in the fresh air, the house smells as good as the Spring day out there does!  She won't take any pay for doing this so I have to find other ways to help her out.  I pick up things at the grocery store that I know she likes and we had dinner together today (on me).  I think I'll get her a nice gas gift card for her birthday.  It will help her get back and forth to work.  I think she thinks she's paying me for watching Cooper while she works but that not a chore!

I hope your are having a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

My eyes went into slamshut mode while I was watching a movie on TV and I missed the end.  But I've seen it before so that's no big deal!

AMY, I have a recipe that's very similar to that one to make in the oven and I've been gathering the stuff to make it.  There are leftovers from tonight's dinner so it wont' be tomorrow.  I made a lot and Frankie took some home with her and I kept some.

I put all the cups and glasses in the dishwaher, wiped the counters and the stools, an swept the floor.  I'll leave a night light in case someone else ventures in.  If you do, please clean up after yourself!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Need to flip a coin to see if inside or outside work gets done. Maybe outside till the bugs are too bad then inside??

Jane, this does make a lot and we have some for supper tonight and I am going to freeze some. Tasty for sure!

Lloyd, good morning to you and Nancy. Parts sure aren't cheap and I hope you find a good deal on them.

Time to meet the day...

Good morning everyone, I am almost ready to ask my sons to put the AC in the window. Got warm so fast, already 65 now at 9am. Will be into upper  70's later. Finally caught up on all the mail that came in while I was away. Of course bills wer e taken care off first but then I had questioneers to answer from the rehab place and the company that Yvette wo rks for wanting to know how the therapists were that came here after I got home. Best thing about them was when they stopped coming. Never knew what time or day they would be here, did not like that at all but the worse was when they got here after Yvette left at 3 and at that time it was nap time, they were all good and patient with me. I must be gettng away from being sleepy all the time, no nap so far for over  a week now.
Today is shopping day and have no t made my list yet. I know I need milk but better get at checking what I need or want. Today is senior day, 10%  off except sale items for all seniors so she knows how to save money. I call her a coupon/sales queen.

Wondering if any of you have got the 2 virus vaccine shots. I got the first one before I came home but have heard bad news about the second shot. Wonder if anyone had a reaction.

Have a great day, looks like all you are keeping busy while I do nothing except what I feel like doing but  am getting up "get up and go" back slowly.
Stay healthy and happy.

Gloria, I received both shots, also my aide and neither of us got any reaction except maybe a little soreness on the arm for a day.  I have not heard of any adverse reaction among my friends.

Of course, if you expect one, it might happen - auto suggestion! :D

The majority of people polled expressed no reaction.

I I apologize for not posting yesterday.  Michele did get home from the hospital and we are all so thankful.  I did not get to see her, but Bob was there at the house to accept the bed delivery and to help Dave get the wheelchair into the house.  Bob said she is shockingly weak, much more so than expected.  Bless her heart.

I had PT and was just on edge all day with anticipation of M getting home.

We are on day three of cloudy dreary days and I am in need of some sunshine BADLY.

I do hope you all are doing great.  It is time for my shower and I have to get a move on as it will be time for Bob to head out to pick up the boys from school.

Enjoy you day.

Gosh, this has been a busy day....thank goodness I didn't plan anything! I had to corral the dust bunnies and wash the floors first then I did the outside work and there is more to be done. All in good time...just wish the bugs didn't think they needed to help out! Beans are coming up ,planted them on Friday and already they are poking through.

Kyle is being kept busy with two more orders for trugs.

Jenny, with Michele home now she will pick up way better than when in the hospital. No place like home and family around her...and lots of prayers for her!

Gloria, good to see you and yes a/c time again. Today I even put it on in the van it was so hot out.

Patricia, coming home from town I glanced into a road way to see a moose looking back at me!! Didn't have time to look at the under carriage and think it is either a young one or a cow..no horns on it.

Winding down for the day now..

Busy place today! Jenny, glad to hear that Michele got home, prayers that she feels better with each day.  Gloria, I've been blaming Covid for sleeping so much, got a sneaky feeling it is just lazy. Amy, Kyle will have to raise the prices on those trugs to keep up with the orders. Was reading this morning about the extreme increase of lumber prices. Patricia,my daughter's doctor said "my daughter should be happy she had a bad reaction because it meant that the shot really took effect and her body was building antibodies". She was super sick the first night but okay next day. She had the J&J single shot.

Had the call while ago that my brother-in-law died. All of their kids were there to tell him good by so I'm expecting the funeral will be soon so they can get back to their jobs. I plan to drive down in the car & back same day so hope my sons will be going with me. This catches both at a super busy time so may not be possible. Will work it out. Glad the eyes are fixed anyway!

Had another hard rain but sun trying to come out & a bit steamy! Yes, quite a bit steamy! All of a sudden nary a leaf moving. Almost scary, but no warnings. Don't often see everything so still... like a picture! Need to get busy.

I recently returned from the grocery store, paying way too much, in my opinion, for some meat and fruit. Add in the eleven dollars for both ways per taxi, and I'm done for the month. If only I didn't have to eat...

Amy, we see moose during summer and winter, but they seem more aggressive in the winter, possibly since wolves are also more aggressive at that time? It's said that we have a resident in town population of 200 moose, but they're rarely seen as people don't pay attention. The ones I've seen seem to be all cows or cows with young.

Shirley, sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, even if it was expected. I'm the only one left instate; everyone else is in Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, or California, so I wouldn't be able to get down anyway.

Good  morning...

Summer is here to stay now. Starting out with 51° and a sunny day.
Off to the lumber yard first thing then home to work. Not sure if it will be in the house or the shop to help out.

Jane, hope you had a good nights rest..

Shirley, condolences to you and your family at the loss of your . After I made that post another couple stopped in and want a trug . Seems thanks to the covid more people are into gardening. Seems lumber is a hot commodity  with the tradesperson and thieves too!!!

Patricia, I am always looking for wild live as you never know when one will dark or fly out in front of you! Our food prices have sky rocketed also. I just hope the garden gives a good return and I can pickle, freeze or can the items.

Better shake a leg and get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm awake and Mickie and Cooper have been fed and walked and Frankie is probably hard at work.  However, my eyes are being lazy and they'd really like to close.  I'm doing my best to keep them open but I have a feeling they'll win the battle this afternoon.

I have to make a quick trip to Davy's this afternoon.  I copped out on that one yesterday and I have some "stuff" to do around the house.  I did put out the mothballs yesterday where the bees were hanging out and it seems they don't like mothballs.  We shall see!  I have to do a bit of watering before the sun hits the plants.  We're having a beautiful day.  The temps didn't go below 45 overnight and they're supposed to be in the high 70s today.

GLORIA, it was good to see you long post yesterday.  Keep up the good work!

SHIRLEY, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I know how you feel because I just lost a friend that I've had since my Girl Scout camping days.  It's not a surprise because she's been in poor health for a few years now but I still miss her!

I better get on with my "jobs"!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning from the Interior that's partly cloudy! Jane, your mention of gazoo struck me for some reason as I'd heard of it for years but didn't know the meaning. A Gazoo, from my search engine, was first mentioned as a tiny green alien in a sixties cartoon voiced by Harvey Korman of the Carol Burnet show fame.

I have a busy day planned, hopefully, to finish some of the tasks I've let slide since early February. I realized last night that I had forgotten two of the main reasons for my grocery run. One was a lidded 33-gallon tub, and the second was the seeds and dirt for my kitchen spice garden. I need to go back to using a list as I really need that tub.

Amy, we're planted in the midst of a portion of an arboreal forest that covers most of the state. Add to that, five rivers run through or around the city, and we end up with critters. However, many go unseen as the city grows.

I was surprised when I used to walk everywhere how many moose, lynx and other animals there were, but people in cars never paid attention. In some places, there are small gullies in town with walking bridges. Occasionally, looking down, you will see moose munching on a tree by a small creek, which are also everywhere. I remember, as a child, seeing a porcupine walking down the main street.

Here, copper or scrap metal gets stolen or wood from someone's woodpile out in the foothills.

PATRICIA, the word "gazoo" is older than the 1960s.  I know this because when I was in high school in the early 50s it was pretty much in use to describe anything that was here in a great abundance.  We had rainstorms "up the gazoo".  The creek bank was muddy 'up the gazoo".  At the beach we got sand in our bathing suits "up the gazoo".  And when it took longer to get somewhere than we had planned, we'd been driving "up the gazoo"  It was a very useful phrase!

I even had a teacher who asked a student if he thought he might like to take a retest because the one he was returning to him had mistakes "up the gazoo".

Well, PATRICIA, you just ruined that expression for me.  I won't be using it again even though I don't agree with that meaning.  For me, it just means a whole lot of whatever it is your talking about but not anymore.

Today was  a pretty good day.  It ended with cooking 2 of my meat loaf patties in the air fryer, then doing a pint jar of AMY'S canned potatoes in the air fryer.  I drained and rinsed the potatoes, sort of dried them and then shook them in a bag with a little oil and then in a bag with salt and pepper and parmesan cheese.  I also cooked a bag of corn that I froze myself last season.  It was ummmm ummmm good!  And I have another meal for tomorrow.

I didn't make it to Davy's again today so it's on my list for tomorrow.  I'm really tired and ready for the haystack.  I think it's loaded with zzzzzs and I'm looking forward to collecting some of them.  (Please don't explain to me where the expression zzzzzs came from.  I don't want to know).  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Summer day tomorrow.  We made it to 84 today and tomorrow is supposed to hit 86.

Good night!

Sorry Jane, I removed it, so think of it as a bad dream or equate gazoo with the other suggestion of a kazoo, a reed-like instrument.

Patricia loved the video! Next doors dog gets a tim bit..as do these guys. Yes, they also get some ice cream, not a lot though like that dog.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I have my day all planned and so far, it's going along with the plan.  Mickie and I have had breakfast, we had a nice long walk and I've had my shower and I'm dressed for the day.  When Cooper gets here, I can make sure he feels welcome, has his free run in the fenced yard and settles down.  Then I'll take off for Davy's.

AMY, I hope you get the rain you need.  I think we can wait for the prediction of Monday for rain.  Right now it's gorgeous out there.  The temp is hovering in the low 60s but it's heading for a high of 90 today.  I don't think I'm ready for that yet.  Right now the windows are open and the ceiling fans are all set to be drawing the nice air into the house.  Before long, I'll have to close the windows and hope the house stays cool.  I have a thing about not turning on the A/C until June 1.  I hope the weather cooperates with that.

PATRICIA, thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid my memory isn't quite that bad yet.  I think I'll just put that word in the back of my mind for now!

I'm going to get a few things set up for after my trip to Davy's.  I have my day planned but sometimes the plans go astray!  I hope you all have a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

I've been on a dead run all day, Jane. Staying up late to post some photos I resized myself with the online resizer. Afraid Bubble will need to fix one, it looks big. Anyway, I also sent her some other photos to post for me. Alas, I've lost my PSP ... actually, bought newer versions but have not been able to understand how to use them (DUH).

My brother-in-law's funeral & visitation is Sunday with military burial Monday. I plan to make it to the visitation at least, so trying to organize for a full day of driving to be back home same day. I don't want to drive the motorhome for this. Anyway, not sure where all the time goes but for sure, the house could do with some cleaning up & out! Since I don't dare get the shots I won't chance staying in a motel & trust all at the visitation will be safe (or not go if sick). Sad time, this was one of the kindest humans I ever met, will sure miss him. I was 14 when they got married so more like a brother.  Getting close to midnight so better head to bed.

Sweet dreams and God Bless All... love you all, Shirley

Good morning from an Interior where the temperature lows have been inching up. Even with rain forecast through Saturday, our low this morning was in the fifties. A change from last week's forties and the lower ones from the week before.

We had an outside ice cream social during yesterday's sunny afternoon as one of the outdoor farmers' markets,  Southside, came with a new service offered to seniors. They're brokering some of the smaller vendors in a new weekly delivery service. Along with the others, they will open June through September, and you can set up a weekly to one week, per month pre-order.

For example, raw local honey ranges from $5.00 to $60.00 on weekly order. I cannot imagine the weekly higher-order unless it is for a community such as a dementia home or nursing home. The offered home churned ice cream was delicious.

I would love to have fresh weekly flower bouquets, $5.00 to $20.00-perhaps twice monthly? Many of the vegetables grow huge here, as many of you who've been know, so prices starting at five and up for a bunch are reasonable for a seniors service.

I'm looking at the colorful carrot medley for $20.00 monthly or the red, inside and out potatoes, five lbs of potatoes for $20.00. One selection I don't need is the collard, kale, or jalapeno. Perhaps the broccoli stirfry; broccoli, carrots, bunching onions with one head of garlic, at $15.00? Or the snap bean medley for $5.00?

The delivery service will be nice for many of us no longer driving or unable to use the buses.

Good morning...
I was busier than a one armed paper hanger yesterday. and today looks no different.  Hit the grocery store at 7 then home to put groceries away, phone in a lumber order and picked half up ,took van in for oil change, picked other half of lumber up then home for lunch. Picked up neighbour  after dropping his truck off for repairs (saw 2 moose on way in ) then home to cut grass an whipper snap the parts the mower missed.

Today is laundry after picking up meds. more lumber and I bought a food savor that  has to be picked up. We put our a/c on yesterday, poor Babe was panting so on it went.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Wow, Amy! and it is only 5:10 AM here, and I'm not even dressed and still waiting for that first cup of coffee! I did get my shower and fed Farrah. But that's the extent of my morning so far!

Lloyd that is almost literally the same payment for my sprain as it was for your motorhome. I wonder who got the better deal?

I'm still debating the senior summer farm deliveries. Before, I paid $240.00 for a vegetable/fruit monthly harvest order. However, I was still working, and they brought it to my employment on a Thursday afternoon. These are more of a choice and smaller amounts.

Before, I dealt with the College Farmers Market, and it was a share agreement with a particular farm. This time it's thru Southside and a series of farms and vendors. Also, lesser amounts and varieties.

A question for Amy or Shirley or Patricia:  What kind of animal goes into bird's nests and takes out the eggs, eats the eggs and drops the shells on the ground?  This has been occurring with too much regularity here.  And these eggs are large ones, about the size of a quarter or even half dollar.  Just plain white shells.

Good morning.......
Tis Sunday a day of rest AMEN!! The past week has been a tad busy and I hope the coming week is a lot slower. Two trugs went to their new homes yesterday and Kyle has 5 now to do. This has taken off like wild fire..and hope that it soon slows down for this year. We have met a lot of nice people through these garden wonders and have become friends with some. The one couple brought us wild leeks ,some to eat and some to grow so I hope they survive. These little gems are so strong, stonger than garlic I would say so you don't need much.

Not sure what today will bring other than some rest :)

Tomereader ,not knowing where you are I can only guess at it. Cats or raccoons will do that. Hope someone else can help you out here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm all dressed and ready for church today.  This will be the first time I've gone to the actual church service (not the one on line) since I broke my arm last March!

Tomereader, I've heard that blue jays and crows will invade the nests of smaller birds and eat their eggs.

AMY, my congrats on the Trug business.  I wish again that I were close enough to take advantage of it.  I did look them up on line and they are available in my area.

I'm going to get off the computer and rest my eyes for driving!  Computers and driving don't mix!  Have a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning on a very warm, humid, cloudy morning.  The temp. is supposed to be at 91 deg. today.  Our AC will be running but, it has been for several days.  Summer has arrived.

I've been having some trouble with my eyes and finally was able to get to the eye doctor on Friday.  After looking at retinal imaging she said everything looks fine.  Unfortunately, the problems I'm having with discomfort and occasional flashes of light is due to aging.  That seems to be the answer to a lot of medical concerns.  But, I do need new glasses and those should be ready in about 10 days.

Not much else happening here.  All is pretty quiet.

Take care, All.

Good morning! Tome, weasels, and snakes also steal eggs, as do humans, for that matter.

This town is still locked up tight. An English Covid variant is causing more new cases, being particularly contagious; however, with more vaccination, deaths are remaining low.

Thanks to all for replies on bird eggs.  We do have racoons around, I've not seen any snakes (chicken snakes do cadge eggs) no weasels, have a plethora of blue jays and crows, so I guess they would be the murdering thieves. I'm still wondering about the size of these eggs though.  We have lots of doves, so maybe dove eggs.

I'm off to the haystack.  It's been a busy day!  I went to church for the first time since I broke my arm last March and it felt so good to be there.  Pentecost is one of my favorite church holidays and that was today.  Then the occupied pew in front of me had a family and they had (almost) 2 year old twins...a boy and a girl.  It brought back tons of memories from when my twins were that age.  After church, I had a chance to talk to the family.  When I mentioned that I'd raised twins, the father said, "So there's hope that we'll live through this!"  Then he admitted that he was very proud to be the daddy of twins.

After church I made a quick stop at WM for a couple necessities and then came home.  My new freezer arrived yesterday and today I rearranged and did an inventory.  I really love it.  It's an upright and that's what I started with and what I had until I moved here and didn't have room.  This one is small enough to fit where I need it.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy SUMMER day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Tome, I've watched starlings pull baby sparrows out of a bird house & toss them to the ground, same with squirrels, and personally watched (but couldn't help in time) cowbirds push the robin eggs out & lay their own, wait until the babies are hatched & let the dumb robins feed those babies the whole time, they cowbird parents show up to take the kids off. I had to take the bird houses down that I could see from my kitchen window bacause I couldn't stand looking out to baby birds on the ground left bleeding (if alive). I've heard bluejays will rob nests and did watch a crow take baby doves off. Cowbirds have been the worst I've ever seen.

I drove from Wichita to Warrensburg, MO today for my BIL's funeral. As is always, such a treat to see all the "kids" grown up with their own grands now. I gave my camera to several of the nephews to go around & take photos of the guests. My sister mentioned she would never be able to remember all that came. I've done this before for family members, other times would make a DVD or put all the photos on an SD card & give to them. I'm so tired tonight I won't even have a look. Oldest son & wife kept track of me both ways, everyone worried about "ole Mom" with a lead foot hitting the highway after such a difficult year. Did it & I'm satisfied. Home safe & sound & ready for something sweet. Had slightly less than 4 hours sleep so kind of a zombie.

Sweet dreams and God Bless to all.  Shirley

Sunday night already..... and I must at least say HELLO.

Way too much going on around here these days.  I always have good intentions of what all I plan to accomplish each day, but for some reason I tire out and have to give in for the day.

Tomorrow I see my surgeon for my 6 week check up on my shoulder.  I have done very well with my exercises and my PT thinks the surgeon will be pleased. I just hope he will allow me to have another month of at home physical therapy.  I am still feeling much too unsteady to be out and about in a gym type setting.

Son Dave had his 50th Birthday the 21st.  Of course there was no big celebration but we did get together for a meal and birthday cake. Michele is very frail and it is heartbreaking 💔

SHIRLEY, I am sorry to read that your BIL passed away. I do hope one of your sons were able to go with you to the service and that you are home safe.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be another busy day.  It's already started.  I'm going to use the chicken broth in the freezer to make chicken corn soup and can it for easy access.  I was just going to can the broth but seems like if I'm going to do the job, I might as well make my life easier later.

The boinger just went off for doggie breakfast and that means "dogmom" breakfast, too.  And after that we'll have a walk and then it will be getting on towards time for Cooper to arrive.  I'd like to get the broth cooking before he arrives and maybe the jars washed and waiting.  Then we'll see how the day progresses.

JENNY, I hope you get good news from your Dr. and he approves everything you want.  I'm so sorry about Michele but she sure is a trooper!  It must be very hard for her kids, too!  I keep them all in my prayers daily....you too!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  LLOYD, you sneaked in on me while I was typing.  Glad you had a good day yesterday.  Have another one today!

Good morning..

A beautiful day in the making here. We did get some rain yesterday , enough to bring down the tree pollen over everything . For a day not planned I did get some things done, Brussel sprouts are now in the ground and zucchini has been planted . One does not need to look for work here a it always finds you. Flowering crab tree is losing its blossoms, wind scatters the petals like confetti about.

This is the last day of the holiday weekend and so far no fireworks just hope tonight will be the same.

Not sure what today will bring so I will just go with the flow of it.
Jane, I too wish we were closer!! Not just for the trugs we sure could have a lot of fun.

Phyllis, hope your eye problem is fixed on Fri. You may have the 91°mercy I call that a fry day!! We have had our a/c on but sure didn't need it yesterday, if fact you needed a jacket  on at times.

Shirley, good for you on your driving to KS also happy to read your kids kept an eye on you!!

Jenny, hope you do get to do at home therapy. Michele is so strong, she has come through a lot and doesn't give into her problem, that alone means so much .Prayers as always.

Lloyd, we could use more rain here and may get some later in the week.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Another day of "not much activity" in the Soda Shoppe!  I got the soup finished and I still have some broth left to can tomorrow.  It takes longer in the pressure canner so I only got one cannerful done.  I have 6 pints of soup ready to heat and eat and 2 jars of broth to make whatever strikes my fancy when the time comes.  Tomorrow, 5 more jars of broth will join them.

My dogwood trees are in full bloom and they are gorgeous.  I tried to send the pictures to my computer so I could have them posted but I'm too dumb to remember how to do that.  Frankie takes my phone and in seconds the pics are sent but I can't figure it out.

I'm off to the haystack.  I'm all in but my shoestrings and since I'm not wearing shoes with shoestrings, that's bad.  I wish you all a good night's sleep and a happy tomorrow...whatever it brings.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

Looking like rain out there and I do hope we are blessed with some. Geese were making such a racket I thought they were going to fly in the bedroom window!!

More gardening to day, will soon be done all that needs to be changed and rearranged. Need to make another run to the lumber store later.

Jane, I bet that soup will taste so good in the winter time. Have you tried your potatoes in the air fryer? I just drain ,rinse and coat with a bit of oil then spices...real tasty!Hope you can post /share the photo of your dog wood tree.

Patricia, if I had a day that would be just as I like it would be to meet and enjoy  time in person with my friends on here...one can dream.

Better move it. want to be at the grocery store for 7 am.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good Morning from a cooler Central PA!  The temps got to the low 50s overnight Sunday night and only made it to the low 70s yesterday.  Today is supposed to be the same.

I'm going to finish canning the rest of the chicken stock to have for soup when the "snow flies"!  Then I have a couple of errands to do and a few doggie walks and a little laundry (maybe).

AMY, I thought I posted about using the canned potatoes just that way.  I've had them several times with a slice of ham or some pork chops and home frozen corn or home canned green beans.  Makes an easy (and delicious) dinner especially if Frankie decides to stay for supper when she picks up Cooper or is on her errand run!

I better get started if I want to finish canning the soup stock this morning!  I hope you all have a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Almost forgot....all my tomato plants have blossoms on them by this morning I saw one teeny, tiny green tomato!

Good Interior morning everyone! We've also had mornings in the mid-forties with the afternoon and evenings in the lower seventies. I'll be glad for June when the starts and plants come out of the greenhouse and the flowers bud alongside the roads.

Oops, I spoke too soon as I just received a text on the weather.

Bad news ahead, "...Cold Temperatures Starting Friday...

Low temperatures will fall into the 20s to mid-30s for much of the Interior.

A cold front will move south through the Interior Thursday, with cold temperatures settling into the Interior Friday through Sunday. Low temperatures will fall into the lower 30s in the Fairbanks area and around 30 in North Pole, with even colder temperatures in the normal cold spots in the valley. Temperatures in Delta Junction and Nenana will also fall to around freezing. High temperatures will only reach the 50s Friday and Saturday and may reach the 60s Sunday.

Residents should prepare to move plants indoors if possible, or cover them, to protect them from the cold."

Good afternoon, I slept away the morning. Got up about 6:00 to feed cats & had myself an egg sandwich plus a slice of grape jam toast & went back to bed. This knee is SO sore it is hard to get up & down or walk so that limits activity. It will get better one of these days & I will keep busy. Did a Google to see if my wilted lettuce with the vinegar has anything to do to perk up the arthritis but seems to be a help. Okay, the driving, sitting & cold air blowing right on the knee. Won't do that again! Driving about 600 miles in one day isn't too smart, either.

I'd love to hear how you make your chicken stock, Jane. My good friend here uses "bought" chicken stock in lots of stuff (like her pinto beans... no ham hocks for her, mashed potatoes... no milk for her)....  & many soups. I use a lot when fixing noodles but don't think about it "instead of water or milk"... maybe I should, but rather have my own cooked & frozen. I'm not sure of my canning so don't trust me there.  Please?

Amy, my trug is out of control already. One type of the mixed lettuce is going to seed, do I just pull it out? Much too thick. Raining again here so afraid it will start to mildew.

Hi to all, need to get moving & do something. This is my only day off this week, planned to go to Sam's & mosey around but guess not the day. ...haha, can't get caught up no matter what I do.

Gloria, I rubbed the HempVana on several times yesterday & this morning twice, but does not seem to fix the knee. Guess I'll have to dig out the heat pad & mix up Epsom salt. Dark outside, if I lay down I'll go to sleep again.

Have a happy day, Every Friend. Time we have a party... maybe remember how we celebrated "Decoration Day" when we were kids?  We took flowers to my parents parents graves every year. Mom would pick peonies & put in the frig (in the garage, Dad kept only one shelf/rack so that frig could hold the watermelons & tall stuff). The frig kept peonies from opening too much before we "headed on to about 20 miles on the other side of Jefferson City". At the little town of Bonnots Mill there was a picnic ground next to the old mill, just basically bare dirt but the locals set up wood planks on saw horses & put table cloths over, the food was out of the world from those French & German immigrant cooks. Mom always took her share of fried chicken & pies, it was close quarters in the car with all of us kids & the food & flowers. Our ancestors were in both the cemeteries (Catholic & Protestant) so we would walk along the rows as Mom & Dad talked about the family members they remembered. Back in those days they also cleaned around the graves & made sure the fences were okay. If I remember, they would go together to pay a local to cut the grass now & then. This was a day for the parents & grandparents... We kids waited for 4th of July to have our games & fireworks, that was OUR day!   So, let us hear your memories?

Hey Everyfriend!  This was a good day for getting things done but it ended on a sour note.  When Frankie came to pick up Cooper, she told me that her job had been cut.  Since she's been kind of expecting it, she's been looking other places but now she has to hurry and get something because it was "this is it", no notice given.  So tomrrow, she will put effort into it.

SHIRLEY, as far as the chicken stock goes, I cook chicken in the crock pot to add to the dog food mixture and when I do, I always save the juice.  When I get a large supple of yogurt containers in the freezer, I can it.  sometimes I just can it as is and sometimes I add stuff.  This batch I made into some chicken corn soup and canned that and the rest of it, I put shredded carrots, chopped celery chopped onions and seasonings (whatever you like works) and cooked it until the veggies were somewhat cooked, then canned that.  I figure I can open a jar and add noodles or rice or whatever strikes my fancy when the time comes.

The next time, which will be a couple months, I'll do it plain so I can make PA Dutch Chicken Potpie or use it in casseroles or whatever I need chicken broth for.

My memories of Memorial Day always include a parade.  Back when I was in school, all the kids joined the parade and they all carried flowers.  The parade ended at the local cemetery where the flowers that made it through the parade ended up on the graves of war veterans.  Most of the girls loved tha parade and the flower thing.  Most of the boys just went because if you didn't, you had to go to school.  I remember that my bouquet was almost always peonies.  And sometimes the ants came along for the ride.

We're supposed to get rain tomorrow so I'm not getting up and watering the flowers...only the ones that are under the roof on the porch.  If the rain doesn't come, I'll give them a drink tomorrow night.

PATRICIA, it sounds like winter is coming back to the Interior!  Don''t pack away your mittens yet!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  I think it's loaded with zzzzs because I hear something calling my name from the bedroom!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Not much rain yesterday and although the sky is crowded with clouds I don't think we will get much rain today. There were tornado warning sent out last night and thankfully that didn't pan out. All but the tomato plants are in now to wait for the spoils of my labour to come. Fri and Sat may bring overnight frost ,may need to cover two trugs as the others have tops to close.

Working outside has its benefits plus one big drawback. While out in  the back garden, listening to the birds, geese, song birds and occasionally the loons you are also enjoying the scent of the lilacs and lily of the valley.

Not sure what the day will bring other than domestic duties and making a strawberry rhubarb pie.

Jane, great idea on saving broth to can later...I may start doing that also. I am sorry Frankie lost her job. Maybe Walmart is hiring??

Patricia, we are to get frost later in the week, just when you think it is safe for plants ,it nips them!

Shirley, try pinching the seed pods off and don't let it bolt. Since lettuce is quick growing you can pull some, leave some for you to eat and plant some more seeds.

Hope Lloyd, Gloria Joy and Phyllis pop in.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be short this morning because the boinger has already gone off and it's time for breakfast.  I stripped my bed this morning and the sheets are in the dryer and the blanket is in the washer.  I also made dog food this morning.  We're off and running!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Lloyd, do hope you can talk to your lawyer about getting an extention for moving if that would help at all. You do need your rest. I have a copy of the Serenity Prayer that Jack in WV sent me when Cas died, inside the cover of my Kindle where I read it at least once every day when I use the Kindle to play solitaire.... hugs to Nancy.

The Serenity Prayer is a prayer written by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. It is commonly quoted as: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. This was a day of 3 brakes......first we had to brake for a deer that ran in front of us, then brake for an otter...guess he wanted on the otter side of the road , then geese that also crossed the road.

We didn't get much rain but some is better than nothing. An all day slow soaker would be nice.

Lloyd, Shirley is right..and don't let that skunk occupy one moment in your head.....he is NOT worth it. Look forward to new beginnings with your lovely family.....they come first.

Hello All!  It was a slower day today than yesterday.  We spent half of it waiting for the rain that was predicted.  It finally started about 8 tonight and is still coming down in a soft drenching style.  I hope it keeps up all night.  We need it badly!

AMY, nice you have good brakes with all the wild life using the road, too!  I guess they don't know they're supposed to keep off the road!

Today I took one of the IDKW containers out of the freezer and made up my mind I'd either eat it toss it depending what it was.  It turned out to be 3 meatballs in spaghetti sauce so I had a meal for supper and I'll finish it off for lunch tomorrow.  That takes care of two of the IDKW containers in the freezer.  One more to go!

Frankie had a good interview for a job today and they said she would hear from them in a couple days.  Say a prayer if you've got a minute!

I'm going to jump in the haystack early tonight.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..
Tad chilly here this morning..temp is sitting at 40° at the moment. Weather guessers say we are to get frost this week so I will have to keep a close eye on it and protect all the vegetables that are growing.

Have a Drs appointment this morning then home to pile wood..

Jane, I had to laugh at your IDKW packages as I will put items in the freezer, not marking as I think I will remember what that is.. :2funny: . Prayers for Frankie that this is a job she wants!!

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it,going to be a busy morning.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

edited to say there is strawberry rhubarb pie in the hidey hole....

Good morning everyone, did not realize it has been so long again since I posted, OK I am ready for the 10 lashes with a wet noodle. Nothing new going on with  me so not much to write about.  I am doing good but still weak and have a couple of naps every day.
Yvette is out with a leg/knee problem. The boss sent me a youg gal of 23 this week and boy is she a bundle of energy. If they keep sending her my apartment will sparkle. She is  the first young one who is not afraid of work, most just want to sit and play on their smart phones.
We had a thunder storm last night, started as I got into bed and that w as all I heard. Musr have los t power because my microwave clock was blinking and I had to set the time again.

A week ago last Saturday my sons were bo th here and put my AC in the window. So glad they did because on the Sunday-next day it went up to 90 humidity climbed up, too. Was very happy  to have it in.

So goes my exci ting life and all  the great news from me.

Have a rea t day and stay safe and healthy.

That thunderboomer came through here a little after midnight, Lloyd. Lots of lightning & thunder but not a lot of rain. Right now the trees are so still it feels like the calm before a storm brewing. It is tornado season so must be aware!

A warning to all: My sister-in-law called last night to tell about a scary thing that happened to her yesterday. Knock on the door & stranger tried to get her to unlock the storm door saying, "I can't hear you through the door". She said he knew there was a camera & went out of his way to avoid it showing his face. She said he actually tried to pull the door open & was very pushy the way he talked. She slammed the door & called her son that lives not too far away (he is a retired policeman)... he came right over & started checking out details. She has a security system that has the "receiver" part going to another son's house so he had video of the guy & all. Anyway, while the son was there the guy came back in a different car & again tried to talk her into opening the door, so cop son came to the door & spooked the guy, he walked out to the car to get the tag number & said another guy driving, BIG guy, & they speeded off.

This sounds much like the group that robbed our house many years ago, but I'm guessing they just learned the tricks of the trade & now scared off from trying to break into a house in that neighborhood. When we were robbed the police told us they knew the group & was linked to a nation wide outfit that disposed of what was taken & across state lines in a couple hours.

SO, beware of any stranger coming to the door with ANY excuse to get you to unlock. We had a neighborhood meeting after our robbery & found a number of people had noticed 4 different vehicles cruising the area, also young men walking between & behind houses pretending to be meter readers with what looked like the instruments & note pads meter readers use, but it was NOT the week the gas & electric readers should have been working. Anyway, slick groups & guess many others around the country.

After my nephews scared this guy off I told my SIL that she was probably in the safest place in the city. They turned the video in to local police & had lots of attention, even a cop cruising the area all night. But they will be searching for other areas to "hit", so do keep in mind this operation was well thought out.

She mentioned a gr-son had given her pepper spray to carry one time but she heard bug spray was better. I told her I have a can of wasp & hornet spray at all my doors that say will spray 20', a lot more distance & spray power & less chance of it blowing back in the sprayer's face. The people that robbed us took TVs & recorders as well as anything that could sell at "flea markets" (collectables & little things the kids had given over the years...memorobilia, new set of expensive guest towels, luggage, etc... our guns & cameras were marked with an engraver so not as easy to sell or hock)... And now off my horse & back to bed. Was up early with a cat that thought it was time for breakfast. We all ate & I'm going back to bed for a few hours.

Good to see you, Gloria. Has been a while since you posted. Sorry about Yvette. Did the new girl give you a rub down?? I've been using the cream but gave up & soaked the knee for a couple hours & it was a lot better. It hurts worse after sleeping so think a pinched nerve in the way I sleep. Get the same problem when I nap in a different bedroom. I'll live. :-\

Good morning, from a not too bad Interior at 54° now, but this afternoon is when it starts cooling down thru Saturday. My osteo is already making itself known. All the joys of aging, I guess.

Gloria, so nice to see your post! I could use a twenty-three-year-old here to bring sparkle; it takes me so much longer to do so little; it's aggravating!

This is the first morning I wasn't awakened by the work nearest the two bridges they're replacing. It sounded like one pipe drilling up and down inside of another pipe. They closed down both bridges late last summer and expect to be done this coming November.

I'm told this is planned to be a twenty-year project. They started in 2008 with widening and repaving roads, putting in more speed bumps, one-way roads, and replacing sidewalks on major arteries. The following year, they did basic roads and then replaced street lights and other electrical poles. The only place spared was the historical districts. Last year was putting in three more pedestrian bridges and a new firehouse in College.

I spoke too soon, the pipe drilling just began again.

The last time the city did this was when I started seventh grade. They tore down all homes with dirt basements in the city center and replaced them with a large city police, fire, and emergency complex. Then in nineteen sixty-seven, they built Alaskaland and moved many historic buildings out there. At that time, they also expanded the city limits and annexed some outlying neighborhoods. It wasn't long after that that they built the first of our pedestrian bridges.

They're always building upon the ridges and flanks of the foothills. I remember a court case where someone was building three stories, neighbors complained of lost views, and the judge ordered the defendant to take off the third story! It won't be long until we're just like Anchorage.

A good Thursday HELLO to all.
I thought sure I posted here last night, but no sign of it🤔🧐

AMY, I liked your three brakes....happy you did not hit the deer.  Scary when they jump right out in front of you.

SHIRLEY, sure glad your knee is feeling better.  I have been pretty miserable the last couple of days....need to emerge myself in Epsom Salts🤣
My visit to the surgeon went very well.  No more arm sling and many more movements of my arm. So my PT worked me over good😫😘. The Serenity Prayer was my mother's very favorite.

JANE, as always you are busy busy!  Mickie will be happy you made food.
I sure would like some of your homemade broth.  I made potato soup a couple of days ago and was it ever delicious!

Burrrr, PATRICIA..... do you think it is ever going to warm up in your part of the world?

Tomorrow is Dave and Michele's 27th wedding anniversary.  She had a oncology appointment today and 2 more appointments tomorrow.  It is so hard for her to get ready, get in the wheelchair and then into the car.  She is so weak and weary😩😩 We are all so very 💔 for her😩

I wish you all a good rest of your day.

Jenny

Patricia, you need a set of ear protection to have available when the noise begins.Saw a couple of flocks of geese and they were headed north.

Jenny, had to slow down today for momma, poppa and baby goose crossed in front of us.

After telling hubby that in all the years we have been here I have yet to see a snake...well can't say that anymore. We may get frost tonight so out I went lowering lids on trugs and covering everything else with tarps.  Noticed that the cucumbers I put in the ground were up so reached for another tarp.........got more than I bargined for..out slithered a snake :yikes:  He was a good sized one that scurried rather fast and into the compost bin.....bless his heart. I don't mind snakes, rather think they are interesting but also know not to say anything to himself as he would .....well lets not go there and let the snake live.

Today was a pretty nice day!  The temps only went into the mid to high 70s and there was a slight breeze.  After this we're supposed to have three days of off and on rain.  We need it so I'm not complaining.  And when Mickie and I have to go for a walk, we'll just have to run between the drops!

I went to lunch with the office ladies from my years working for Pennsylvania House Furniture.  We try to do it once a month but we're about a year behind because of the Pandemic.  It's nice to be with them again.

When I got home, Frankie and Cooper were here and she was using my shopvac to clean out her car.  When she was finished, we made a group trip to WM to get some groceries.  We did a lot of talking to and from the store and after we got home we did a lot more until she decided she better get her groceries home before everything melted!

It was a fun and productive day and now I'm going to rest and watch TV.

JENNY, I hope Michele gets all good reports from her Dr. visits.
If anyone deserves them, she sure does.

AMY, I've seen lots of snakes in my camping days...some poisonous and some not.  But I must say, I've never gotten used to them!  I've been up close and personal with rattle snakes and black snakes but it's not something I'd like to do again!  You can keep yours where they are!
And I'm with "him".  It sounds like we prefer the same treatment of snakes!

I'm hanging up the tools and hitting the sofa right after I go for a last walk with Mickie.  It's just about the right time!  Have a good rest of the day and a good night, too!

Good morning from a chilly Interior at 38°. Snow is in the forecast for tonight thru Saturday!  "One More Night of Cold Overnight Lows Friday Night...

Low temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to mid-30s for much of the Interior tonight.

Low temperatures will fall into the lower 30s in the Fairbanks area and around 30 in North Pole, with even colder temperatures in the normal cold spots in the valley. Low temperatures in Delta Junction and Nenana will also fall to around freezing. Temps warm back up on Saturday and Sunday, with overnight lows staying above freezing.

Residents should prepare to move plants indoors if possible or cover them to protect them from the cold."

There are unseasonal lows in both the midwest and Northeast parts of this country, as I understand it. It seems cold everywhere.

Patricia, I didn't uncover ours left them on until tomorrow..and hope the weather is a little better. We now have a fire on to chase away the chill.

Howdy!  it's been a busy, rainy day here!  the rain started about noon and has continued rather steadily ever since.  Mickie and I braved it twice but only for shorties!  She doesn't seem to like walking in it any more than I do.

Frankie will be here soon.  We're doing dinner together.  She's cooking part of it and I'm cooking part of it and we're eating it together!  She's pounding the pavements looking for a new job but my son and his buddy both reminded her that she's eligible for unemployment compensation so she's filling out that application too.  She's a busy little gal!

Mostly what I did today was cook meat ahead for dog food.  I have 4 packs of cooked ground turkey in the freezer and chicken cooked that still needs to be picked apart and bagged for future meals.  It also gave me two nice quarts of chicken broth for later use in recipes.  Right now it's in the freezer but when I get enough, I'll can it.  It's just easier to use out of a jar.

I hope you are all having a better day today than yesterday and I hope you all have an even better one tomorrow!

Good night, Jane & everyone peeking in. Was cooler today but to my liking. I'm already dreading summer. I did get my weed whip out & trimmed the berm, it certainly needed it! Doesn't take much to wear me out these days. The battery on the weed whip lasts longer than I do!  Went down to the river to feed fish & discovered it is up higher than it was, over my path that goes to the water edge. I'm all but asleep so better get jammies on & get horizonal... Sweet dreams & God Bless!

Good morning...

Another cool day and we do have a fire on. Nice sunny day and cool enough to finish piling that wood. Laundry day and wood piling is about it for me today.

Jane, I was so tuckered last night, I was all in with my shoe laces and yours too!!  Saying good night to yourself meant you were talking with a very nice lady, a special one to me!

Shirley  what happened to the ever ready battery we had when young? I find that I can only go so long and then have to sit a moment...never used to be like that..

Patricia, will uncover my plants today and hope I don't have to recover tonight..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning to whoever shows up today...especially AMY who already showed up.

About that battery...replacements don't seem to be available.  I've checked Amazon, WalMart, Target...even the grocery stores.  No one has the right size and shape.  So I guess we have to be responsible for recharging ourselves.  Oh well, I guess that's better than just tossing it and giving up!

I'm on my way to the recycling this morning.  I hope they're open in the rain because I don't want to load, unload and reload again.  Then when Frankie is up we're hitting the weed recycle center.  I can't do that on my own because I don't live in the borough.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I don't have a lot to talk about.  I sleep a lot.  I sit down for a few minutes and fall asleep almost immediately.  I bought some baby back ribs for the weekend "special" meal but we'll see if they get cooked or not.

Good morning from an Interior in the thirties. We did get an overnight dusting of snow, but it warmed up to a steady rain that melted snow. Temperatures are expected to begin climbing Sunday again.

No much going on here; I just haven't had any energy or mood to get back to what needs to be done. I hope today will be better. There is a potluck Memorial Day picnic arranged, but since I've had no gumption to head out to a grocery store for anything, I probably won't go altho I may surprise myself.

As you can see, my bright-eyed, bushy-tailed self has moved on to greener, hopefully, less cliched pastures.

Good morning everyone. Rain for the whole weekend here. Not nice for the holiday that welcomes summer  weather. From just looking at the forecast today it will not get out of the 40's. Of course the heat is off in this building and our maintenace man is no longer here to fight the witch to turn the heat  on for all us older folks. New man will take over on Tuesday. I know yes trday I was wrapped in a blanket  most of the day. Looks like a week end of eating soup, good to warm the innards.

LLOYD  if I could and was a witch I would put a spell on Bob and you would keep your family home. Wonder  if someone (like the devil) put him up to all the meaness he is showing now. He will pay in the end for what he is doing to  youand your family.

JANE  I sure hope Frankie gets  the job she wants. When one has to work and support themselves it is better if the pay is good and a job you enjoy.

AMY  at least st acking the wood will keep you warm. Glad I didn't put a pair of geemagotchees away for the summer. Didn't see them until yesterday and they help keep me a little wa rmer. Have sweatshirts and even a warm vest. If I could do like I used to I would keep myself warm by doing housework.

SHIRLEY  we had a thunder stor m a few nights ago and everyone was asking how I liked the loud booms and bright flashes-I slept through it all and heard nothing. When I fal asleep I never hear any thing. This is a "safe" building, no one gets in unless we let them in. Need a fod to get into the lobby but who is to stop someone from coming in when you do, maybe a thief o r whatever. My apartment door is always locked. A habit for more than 50 years.

JANE  where we had our house in the woods across the street were a lot of wild Dogwood but hot a nice an the ones we grow.

PATRICIA  when replacing some bridges here the meassure and build them, then they take out the old one and move in the new one. They did one major bridge that way from from the company my oldest son workd for, he was a welder and when the moved it into place they moved the bridge on 2 barges up the river to get it into place. He was on one of the barges. If anything snapped he was there to weld it in place. Bridges are out of order  for only a short time that way. Hours instead of weeks or months.

JENNY  my heart goes out to your daughter in law. She is always in my prayers.

AMY  I don't even like the wor d snake. If I see on on a TV I will shut it off. I was scared by a rattler  when I was 6 or  7 and my scream rushed 2 brothers out and they killed it. That scare still lasts I cannot even see the name without shuddering.

BUBBLE  thanks for the history of our US flag. Will send that to family. I do love the  US flag and I wish people would fly it  more that just on holidays or when a  terrible event happens like the 9/11 day the planes went into those buildins in New York and DC.

PHYLLIS  you sound like me with falling asleep  I can take something out of the freezer to cook later and either forget about it or not feel like eating it after it is thawed. I have thrown away more food than ever and tha t is a sin when other s don't have enough.

My son has been and gone like every Saturday morning and he brought me some nice fruit. That I can eat anytime. I give him money every month to get me something I forgot or he sees he knows I like. I started this over 3 hours ago, time to get away from the computer and at least get the bed made, might warm me up a little.

Have a great day and stay healthy and safe.

It was so nice to come by and see PHYLLIS and GLORIA here today!  Stop back and check in again soon.

I'm heading for the haystack to collect some of those zzzzzs that I hear calling my name.  We had a cold day today.  It stayed in the 50s all day and there was a cold breeze and no sun and a lot of rain.  Not my kind of day but we did need the rain.  Tomorrow is supposed to me "more of the same" according to the weather predictions.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the best of it whatever it brings!

Good morning..

Have a fire on again this morning...we did get a dandy frost over night. I did cover up the plants but there were a few that didn't get covered..hope they survived the frost!

No wood to pile   finished the last  of it yesterday.Today is a day of rest..will uncover the plants and just enjoy the day.

Gloria, we have been so lucky, no bugs and cool enough weather for piling wood. You do work up a sweat but it sure could have been worse.

Phyllis,
Maybe your meds are the cause of the naps?

Patricia, bright eyed and busy tailed...I remember when but like you that phase has gone. I am beginning to like it too..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I remember those day too, PATRICIA and AMY and Everyone!  They were good days with good people but time passes and back in "the olden days"  we didn't have computers and I didn't have all of you.  Now, when I tell my kids I have good friends all over the country and in some foreign countries too, they are impressed.  Heck! I'm impressed!

Today is another church day and I have to get moving so I'll be ready to leave on time.  I really enjoyed actually being there last week.  It felt good!  I"ll say a prayer for all my friends all over the world!  Enjoy your day!

And as Callie would say, "Super Sunday to y'all"........something like that.  ;)  I've been to church & took Andy & Pam to breakfast at a special place. Really yummy food. Got the pool opened yesterday & it looks down right pretty this morning already. I do with the least amount of chemicals so only chlorine tablets in 2 floaters & let it circulate all night. Need to vac today as it dumped a lot of dirt to the bottom. Thinking maybe a nap first, cloudy & good sleeping weather.

Good morning from the Interior, where it started at a rainy fifty-eight and is expected to end at seventy-one, so that's seemingly back on track!

Gloria, here they usually work on the underwater bridge platform first. Then they barge up the upper parts on barges and use giant cranes to lift them into place before securing them. They started in November and plan to have both bridges secured and operating this fall. They've done others, but this is the first time in my memory that they've done two of the five main downtown bridges. In the twenties and thirties, the rivers or ice would wash out all five bridges, and they'd rebuild each spring.

Then, pre-WWII, the city started damming some of the rivers from the west side in the early forties. In the late forties, early fifties, they finished more dams, but then the polio epidemic happened, which delayed everything until the mid-sixties.

I've only seen snakes in zoos until my time (five years) in the South, and despite all the tales told to me, I saw only one long black snake undulating across a road. In-laws told me after my daughter, and I had gone wading in a creek about water moccasins and jumping snakes after I had made a habit of cutting through the tall grass.

I was even warned about rattlers in our woodpile and to let the guys bring in our wood. I never saw any snake in those five years other than the road crossing black snake. Who evidently hadn't gotten the memo to hide from the tourist!

I retired in November 2014. Before that, it was eight or more hours in the evening or overnight, punctuated on each end by two separate bus rides. I normally had the first two days of the week off and slept the first day or had separated days off. I managed to finish all my chores and laundry in a four hours or less time period. Not any more!

My dad used to yell up the stairs every morning for us three to get up, be downstairs, dressed, and "bright-eyed and busy-tailed" promptly as he had to leave for work!

PATRICIA, when we were school kids, if my dad was home when it was time for us to get up, he stood at our door and sang his version of Reveille!  And he didn't stop until we sat up so it was no use trying to ignore him.  I remember one time when I was out of bed and my sister said, "It's Saturday!  We get to sleep in!"  He laughed and I hit the bed!

Jane, I like your version of morning wake-up call better! Mom had usually already left for work, and Dad had to be leaving for his. We had to be fully dressed, bathroom visited, school papers at hand, and downstairs before he left.

He was very business-like and in a hurry, so we knew not to dawdle! To this day, I can recite what was on the radio, (Plumbing and heating commercial, weather/roads report), at breakfast; it made such an impression.

Night time is upon us and I'm ready for it!  I know we need the rain but rainy, dreary days make me tired.  I don't know why that is but it is!  Mickie and I had our two long walks between the rain but it was cold today.  It never made it past 54 degrees!  I thought Spring had sprung!

PATRICIA, when my parents watched my kids when my husband and I travelled, I told them about reveille before we left.  They said that was OK but they changed their minds when it actually happened.  I told them to get used to it because it was going to be that way whenever their grandparents were around and they eventually did.  I even heard Cindy doing it to her kids when I visited them in Texas!

I'm trying to use up food that's been around for a while and my plan for today was to french fry some sweet potatoes in the air fryer.  When I got them out, not only were they not sweet potatoes, they had one really bad one right in the middle.  So I picked out the good ones, peeled them and made scalloped potatoes.  Then I had a trial package of Southwest Chipotle Chicken in the freezer so I took that out and thawed it.  I didn't know what I was getting because I've never bought this before.  But it turned out pretty good.  I added some frozen peas and I had supper tonight and packed three more suppers for later.

I'm listening to the tribute to veterans on the TV while I'm typing and it's pretty good.  I might go out and watch the end of it before I go to bed.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy holiday tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning AMY and anyone who comes in later.
It's almost time for the boinger and that will be breakfast for Mickie and me.  Right after I finish, Mickie will tell me (in no uncertain terms) that it's time for a walk.  And so the day begins....   Make it a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Beautiful, Amy. It is a day to remember all those years and all those relatives & friends that have gone before. It is pouring rain here (thanks, Callie!) and looks like it might go on for quite a while. Had enough last night to fill the pool back to the top & I had drained it down to the proper level for circulating. The trees aren't moving at all down along the river but the tree I see out my front window is waving around like crazy. Cats are fed and now my turn. No plans for the day, had a busy night dreaming so in a funny (not haha) mood. Wishing all a wonderful day.

Good morning, it's 58° presently, partly sunny at 8 AM and heading toward a high of 76.°  We're due to have rain again tomorrow, so it seems a repeat of the last three years. This building is having a Memorial Day Potluck; VFW and The American Legion are having services at the Veterans Cemeteries and Veterans Memorial Park. The city has the usual events, sales, and potlucks planned.

It is Memorial Day here in the USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Rest In Peace, ALL of the Vets who fought for our freedom and died doing so so can we enjoy a free country today ‼️ We would normally go to all the cemeteries where our loved ones are intoured but it is a wet and chilly day out.

PATRICIA, I, too, remember being awakened by my father who most generally had some little joke ready to play on me before being told it was time to be "bright eyed and bushy tailed"!  I hope you enjoyed the picnic I your building today.

AMY, I, too, hope the frost did not ruin any of your crops!  We have leftovers in the fridge that need to be eaten up, so no major cooking today. We will have to prepare our asparagus....yummm, cannot wait to have it!  Thank you for the nice Memorial Day greeting.

JANE, I can't wait to read about your day.

SHIRLEY, always loved looking a5 the beautiful blue water in the pool.  Glad you enjoyed breakfast with the family.

Enjoy the holiday every one.

Jenny

I was going through the BobVilla.com internet site for some gardening advice when I saw a thread for nine towns that will pay you to live there. So I took a look and found this..".Do you dream of living in Alaska? If you do, you could earn $1,000 a year just for living there. The state of Alaska maintains a Permanent Reserve Fund that pays dividends to residents who have lived in the state for at least one calendar year and plan to remain there indefinitely. So, pack your thermals and head out for a new life of adventure."

Unfortunately, this isn't true. When oil was discovered in the state many, many years ago, the state legislators decided to form an estimated dividend program for state residents based on the current year's oil lease earnings. People started moving in, homeless and broke, yet demanding their share of the dividends.

So, the state made it a provision to live in the state for one calendar year before becoming eligible. And you need to re-apply yearly. Now the oil boom is stuttering; oil is becoming scarce just like Texas and other oil states, so the dividend is on its way out.

Hello Everyfriend!  The day started just as I said it would and since then, we've had one more long walk and two short ones.  The rain stopped and the temps got into the low 70s and the sun shone.  I started out on the first walk with a tee shirt, a sweater and a jacket on.  On the second walk, I shed the jacket and went with just the tee shirt and the sweater.  By the time we took our last walk, the sweater was gone.  It's a good thing it got dark because I don't know what I'd have done if it got any warmer!

I cooked some broccoli florets in the Air Fryer to go with the dinners that I made last night.  Boy was it every good!  I think this is the first holiday that I haven't heard from even one of my kids.  I hope that means they were having such a good holiday they just didn't think of anything outside of their immediate family.  Frankie called to ask if I'd mind if she joined a friend for a holiday cookout.  I told her to go and have a ball.  She answered that she loves me!

The big thing I did today was retype my kitchen freezer inventory.  It had so many additions and scratchoffs that I couldn't tell what I had and what was gone any more.  That involved actually looking at the stuff in the freezer and making sure what was there.

Now I'm ready for the haystack!  The zzzzs are ganging up on me and hollering for me to join them.  Mickie's been for her last outie and I'm ready!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
