LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
Hearts united in pain and sorrow
will not be separated by joy and happiness.
Bonds that are woven in sadness
are stronger than the ties of joy and pleasure.
Love that is washed by tears
will remain eternally pure and faithful

Buckets of Rain
Bob Dylan

Buckets of rain
Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets comin' out of my ears
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand
You got all the love
Honey baby, I can stand

I been meek
And hard like an oak
I seen pretty people disappear like smoke
Friends will arrive, friends will disappear
If you want me
Honey baby, I'll be here

I like your smile
And your fingertips
Like the way that you move your lips
I like the cool way you look at me
Everything about you is bringing me misery

Little red wagon
Little red bike
I ain't no monkey but I know what I like
I like the way you love me strong and slow
I'm takin' you with me
Honey baby, when I go

Life is sad
Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must
You do what you must do and ya do it well
I'll do it for you
Honey baby, can't you tell?

Good morning...

Overcast day here with the promise of much needed rain. I am taking a friend for her cardiology appointment in the city today. We will stop and pick up a few groceries before heading home.

Need to uncover the plant and hope this would be the last time they needed tucking in at night.

Bubble ,thank you for the new home. I got a chuckle out of a word to husbands..

Better get busy here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The boinger is already going off and if you want to know what I've been up to, you'll have to go back to yesterday's postings.  I said everything I had to say back there.

BUBBLE, nice, clean, new house.  Thanks for your efforts.  It's OK if you overslept.  We were sleeping at the same time!

Well, you didn't oversleep for my part of the world, Bubble. I also liked the advice to husbands. My shasta daisys are blooming their little hearts out right now. The tiger lilies and Japanese iris didn't bloom at all, had a couple of the yellow Japanese iris open up & turn brown, the plants have taken over one of the beds of tiger lilies.

Tiger woke me up at 4:30 but I didn't get out of bed until 5:30. Tom spent the night out & was waiting at the bedroom door to come in, I think that is why Tiger woke up, she doesn't like to stay out at night so watches for him. Callie prefers her heated bed in the garage. She has a self feeder of dry food & dish of water if she wakes up hungry...they rule.

Amy, I've over-planted the trug, tomato plants covering the mixed lettuce & bibb lettuce, still plenty of endive but the spinach never did get as big as I thought it should. Still all so nice & tender. The tomato plants are becomming monsters, for sure I did not pinch off enough of the suckers so may have all plants & few tomatoes. Lots of blooms. Seem to have a lot of gnats & tiny bugs hanging around, and more tiny toadstools. The yard is full of large toadstools like I've never seen before, big clusters. I am NOT in tune with yard work but hesitate to spend the hundreds of dollars having it managed by the various companies that offer their services to "weed & feed" and then have to pay the lawn guys to mow twice a week! Enough work keeping up with this pool & all the rain! (whine-whine)Bring back winter!

Cats all fed & back to sleep so think I will do the same... at least eat. It is getting light enough to think about starting the day, I need to drag the rolling trash barrel around & cut off all the redbud trees that pop up everywhere. They are really growing fast this year. That old tree next door has dumped seeds to the point they are worse than any weed. Some of the little trees I didn't get out of the berm from last year already have clusters of seeds on every branch. I never knew they multiplied like this!

When was Lloyd having the sale & moving? He hasn't posted for a few days that I remember, but as June used to say, "my rememberer isn't working so good anymore".... I expect their hearts are breaking at leaving the place they put so many years building. Sadly, some people expect to be "paid back" when they do favors so best not to make promises of "rewards". Hard to imagine that Bob would go to court (and win) this big. Seems like this & last year so full of people being angry, mean, hateful.... bad.

Well, thinking is not getting the jobs done. Hard to believe this is June 1.... I kind of skipped winter, Christmas & everything because of Covid. My sons are getting ready for a camping trip in CO and I won't be going this year. I could count on one hand the years I've missed going since they were 12 & 14 and now they are 58 & 60. Didn't have to take cats when Cas was alive so think that has a lot to do with the stress of the trip, they hate traveling. Cas hated camping so my week off to Colorado was in exchange for his twice a week (or more) of playing golf all year. They even bought colored golf balls to play in the snow!

Hey, it isn't raining this morning.... will have to take a photo of the river, a REAL river this week. It has been higher other years, I'm anxious to see if it washed all the trees down river that the beaver cut down.

Hi, Jane... glad to see you up & about.

Happy June Oneth!

Shirley, I wish whoever's sending us this gray, gloomy, wet, COLD weather would turn off the faucet!!!! Can't believe I have the heat on and am wearing a sweatshirt in June.  At least, we haven't yet had tornadoes...at least in my area.

Nothing much going on in my world.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Terrific Tuesday.

A good Interior morning everyone on this rainy June first! It's 53° now but due back in the seventies later. Tomorrow's low is expected in the sixties, so hopefully, we're finally warming.

Farrah is fed; she has a new grain-free senior cat food that she likes and is good for her. I knew most pet food is full of grains and byproducts, but it took me this long to find cat food without. I was surprised to learn a while back that the most common pet food addition, chicken and chicken by-products are also the most common allergens, especially for senior pets.

Today is the start of a new month and also the time I'm determined to stop procrastinating. There is too much that I've let slide.

Bubble, I always enjoy what you find for us each time you open a new Soda Shop!

Shirley, the biggest lawn problem locally has always been tree roots surfacing and poor lawns around those roots. And we live in a forest, so there are lots of those roots. People used to depend on Round-up, for weeds but now that the deadly usage effects and lawsuits are proliferating, they're looking for other methods.

Callie, Accuweather predicts a return to warmer weather, so hopefully, we'll finally see some.

I hope everyone had a good holiday, and that for everyone, today will be a good one.

For Callie,

(CNN) —

"Rabbit rabbit! There, now you'll have a month of good luck .

For some people, the most auspicious way to start a new month is by uttering those words. Others say "white rabbit," or repeat the word "rabbit" in some other quasi-ritualistic pattern, but the intent is always the same: To start the month on a good (rabbit's) foot.

Where did this tradition come from? Like so many superstitions, the origin isn't quite clear. Word historian Martha Barnette told NPR the practice probably started in the UK, where it's still common to say "white rabbit" on the first of the month.

The first mention of such a practice dates back to the early 1900s, and since then a few notable people have been known to invoke some form of the magical phrase.

"In fact, another aficionado of this practice was Franklin Delano Roosevelt," Barnette said. "He was known to carry a rabbit's foot during the 1932 election. We still have that rabbit's foot in a museum. And supposedly, he also said rabbit, rabbit at the beginning of every month."

The superstition probably got a boost in the 1990s, when kids' TV network Nickelodeon included mentions of "Rabbit Rabbit Day" in its programming.

Whatever the reason, it's no stretch to see why it's "rabbit rabbit" and not "possum possum," or whatever. Rabbits have been seen as good luck for centuries, and are common symbols of rebirth. What better time to get a fresh start than at the beginning of a whole new month?"

Patricia,  Didn't Frances used to start each month with "Rabbit Rabbit" on here?

:2funny:  at using that instead of "possum possum".

Speaking of possums, Callie, I once got into an online spat with someone who insisted Opossom was a word I made up.  ::)

I don't remember a Frances right now, but I can assure you I probably will hours later, perhaps right as I attempt to sleep.

Thank you BUBBLE for our nice clean SS on this White Rabbit / Rabbit Rabbit Day!

Today was to be a nicer day with sunshine and 71°.......ah, yeh, hasn't been that way and after a full holiday weekend with nothing but dreary and rainy days, Infor one was more than ready for some sunshine 😘

SHIRLEY, I am teary eyed reading that you will not be coming to Colorado with the guys this year😩😢 I am sorry😫  I do not remember a Frances that said Rabbit Rabbit.....only our Gladys🥰🥰

Patricia,I had no idea that YOU were the person that spelled Opossum that way😜😂 Ido know when I learned how to spell it I sure wondered where in the world that O came in front of it😘 haha

CALLIE, I want that faucet turned OFF too. Colorado had more rain this month than Washington and Oregon combined!  No doubt we need all we can get, BUT....enough is enough!

AMY, I-hope the trip to town went well.  Sure would be nice if last night is the last time you have to cover the trugs.

We are sitting here with Michele as Dave is with Matt at his second lacrosse game.  He won the JV Game and now is playing a varsity game.  Poor guy is going to be exhausted when he comes home tonight.

I had PT today so I am feeling really sore and achy.  .PT says I am doing great!

Have a good rest of your evening.
Jenny

Now the day is over....

And I'm ready to hit the haystack!  The zzzzs are calling!  And I've a mind to answer.

I never heard that rabbit, rabbit thing but I sure could use some luck so I've said it aloud and I'm hoping!

SHIRLEY, I'm going to miss your trip to Colorado, too.  I loved hearing about the camping because I'm a born camper and I really miss it.  I'd sure like to do one more camping trip before I die but there's no one in the family who still camps except my son and he does his camping at Hunting Camp these days.  Women don't go there!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Hey, Jane, maybe we could do a "virtual" camping half way, what is half way?  Bet we could have fun planning & dreaming, huh?

Jenny, I mentioned to Andy the other night that "I'd like to drive out & back by myself & make it a 2 day drive each way since I have to stop for cats"... they won't use the litter box with RV moving. That night I didn't get but a couple hours sleep for worrying if I should even think it. Someone told me that "when oxygen level gets into low 70s the organs can start shutting down". I did not go to the doctor about it, got better when I came down below even Salida level! Maybe in another year I might try it but won't be driving the motorhome or hauling cats, so doubt I'll try, but I can dream, can't I?

Ended up with a nice evening, cats are enjoying being outside. I'm heading to bed. By the way, who mentioned a Fances.... I don't recall anybody by that name on SrNet or here. But I repeat, "my rememberer is not as good as it used to be"....quote from June. 'Night, all.......

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's almost time for the boinger and breakfast.  And the day begins....

SHIRLEY, half way from my house to your house would be somewhere in Indiana.  I'd rather not camp in the flatlands.  However, if I went south, half way would be around Louisville, KY.  There must be some mountains in KY.  However, if it's going to be a "virtual" camping trip, we can do it anywhere we want to do it.  I'd love one more outing in Wyoming!  They have mountains!

The name Frances is vaguely familiar to me but I don't know if that's because we ever had a Frances or because Frankie's name is really Frances.

I better take care of my doggie before she tells me it's time.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning...
Yesterday was a fun day,in and out of the appointment in 20 min. We then headed for the grocery store and found a lot of goodies on sale. Lean hamburg ,tri tips, asparagus and broccoli are some of the goodies that made it into out cards.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time our and hope we can do it again only go to another town once everything opens up.

Today is chasing dust bunnies and finishing packaging the hamburg with the food saver. Amazing how that food saver works once you get the hang of it. Not only will it keep food longer in the freezer but it also saves space.

Jane and Shirley ,we used to camp a lot earlier in life. We took Buddy our Dalmatian with us one year and went clear across Canada with him. We camped all the way ,the same when we went East also. Fresh air, friendly folks and tasty food was a given.

Jenny I did cover up the plants last night and hope from here on in according to weather reports that will be the end to that. We have gone from the freeze to the frying weather.

Better get busy

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Checked photo albums and found it wasn't Frances, it was Gladys Barry who (I think) said, "Rabbit, Rabbit" at the beginning of the month.  Such a sweet "character"; I enjoyed meeting her at some Bashes.

CALLIE, it was Gladys and Robby who used to dance together at the Bashes and I loved watching them.  I don't remember the "rabbit, rabbitP thing but I'm sure going to adopt it now.  It can't hurt and it might help!

SHIRLEY, how do you feel about camping in Wyoming?  AMY, you can join us if you want to.

Right now, I'm heading for the haystack!  I have a bunch of stuff to do tomorrow and then a Dr. appt on Friday that will involve some driving.  Frankie is going to drive me and we'll stop for lunch somewhere along the way.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

LLOYD, if you're going to get up in the middle of the night, it's a good chance that the rest of us will be trying to sleep.  I was never a restless sleeper in all my life until the past few years.  Now I wake and sleep, wake and sleep....all night long.

The boinger is going off so that means it's time to feed Mickie....me too.  I hope you all have a pleasant day.  We're expecting more rain!

Good morning..

Beautiful morning with birds singing ,ground sighing from a lovely rain. I noticed that the rain brought down more pollen and it has left a golden ring around the puddles.

Most of the domestic duties were caught up yesterday so today is make meatballs and freeze them for later.

Jane, will throw the kayak in the van  and my fishing rod too.

Lloyd, sure hope everything slows down a bit for you and Nancy. Take it easy and look after you and Nancy.

Better get at it.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe..

Okay, Jane, Wyoming it is, love every inch of that state, it has it all!  I'll grill the fish if someone else will clean??? I con my boys into bringing back a couple for me (they insist they don't like fish because they don't like the cleaning job). I pack the insides full of butter, onions & a pack of herbs & spices I carry "in hopes of". I use foil to wrap in so all those flavors stay with the fish. Surprising when left on the table every bite is gone fast as they mosey by.

All through the years I would get up just before dawn to be at the water edge to catch those first lights as they bounce across the water splashing down the rocks. My husband thought I was crazy & asked "how many photos do you need of that same spot?" My answer was always the same, "the colors change every minute as the sun comes up, no two days or two minutes the same!"

Fitbit says I had 4 hours & 43 min of sleep, but I know I had another hour it didn't count. Tom had stayed out but was at the door about 4:30am, Tiger had been sleeping by me so jumped up to let me know her brother was wanting in. Let him in & went back to sleep until almost 7:00 so got up & fed them. Callie wanted her tuna & salmon served in the garage (she just sits down & refuses to come in when I open the door).... so after she cleaned out her bowl I went out to open the back garage door so she could go around to the pool where Tom & Tiger were waiting. No wind, sun is bright but still cool enough for them to enjoy being lazy. Got a long list of to-dos but would rather go back to sleep.

Wishing all a "terrific Thursday" (hey, Callie, how about that, NO RAIN?). Think happy!

Good morning from the party-cloudy at 50° Interior with an eye toward the early seventies later. Today will be a day of groceries and bills. Farrah's washed and fed, and I'm the former and not the latter.

Afterward, I will do more with the living room and kitchen with laundry tomorrow. Those three months of enforced leisure were a pain, but the 21 pounds lost were a nice surprise, if not the method of losing.

Lloyd, I m never able to sleep straight through anymore.

Yesterday, I cooked two sheet pans of potatoes, carrots, onions, chicken on one and the other with pork. They were a nice freezer addition.

It's been a full and a busy day!  i made my trip to Davy's after Frankie came by and dropped off Cooper.  And then I got us all some lunch and after that I tood a short nap.  Then I pitched in and did some odd jobs that were begging for attention.  When Frankie came back, she was prepared to spend the night so they would be here tomorrow while I head off for another Dr. appt.  I made a pretty good supper...pork chops, some of my canned potatoes in the air fryer and fresh fried red beets.  Frankie said it was a good supper and she did the dishes after.

We just had a very nice chat.  And the end of it was that she is not going to let them put me in a nursing home if the time comes that I need help.  She said she's going to move in and take care of me.  I had tears in my eyes and I had to get up and hug her tighter than I ever did before.  That was such a nice thing to say and the best part was that she meant it!  And now, I have more tears in my eyes!

the haystack is calling and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning from an Interior that's the same as yesterday, starting at fifty and heading into the low seventies. The only difference is one day is projected to be partly cloudy and the next partly sunny. However, we are still considered to be ten to fifteen degrees cooler than normal this time of year.

I read this morning that all seven continents are in a severe drought.  I also read, "There are seven continents globally: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America. However, depending on where you live, you may have learned that there are five, six, or even four continents. This is because there are no official criteria for determining continents."

I finished about a third of what I wanted yesterday. I kept getting off on tangents of jobs, not on my list. I'm running behind and probably should write everything on paper and tack it on a dartboard; it might work better. Today is my running hither and yon day; I've got a definite list for that, no side trips!

A toddler in Minnesota had an interesting request for her birthday cake.

Casey Feigh wrote on Twitter that his three-year-old niece Leona asked her parents for a Lion King-themed cake for her birthday party. However, instead of asking for a "Hakuna Matata" cake featuring Simba, Timone and Pumba like one might imagine when considering this Disney classic, Leona reportedly wanted a cake depicting Mufasa's death scene.

According to the tweet, she told her parents she wanted that scene because "everyone will be too sad to eat the cake and it will all be for me."

Good morning...

Yesterday was a busy day,got a lot accomplished outside. No rain or t storm came but hope maybe today the rain will fall. Neighbour and I both worked in our gardens planting tomatoes and yellow necked squash. That is it for me now to sit back and wait for the fresh veggies to appear!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cloudy here too but the sun is suupposed to show it's rays later this morning.  Right now it's 60ºbut it's heading for 90 later today.  It's JUNE in central PA!

AMY, I don't know what the Dr. found yet.  I guess we'll see!

LLOYD, we don't care if you repeat.  We're all getting old enough to do that more often than we'd like to admit.

It's time for Mickie's walk before it gets too hot!  She doesn't like it and neither do I  when it's hot.  Sometimes she'll just stop, turn around and stare back at the house.  And if I turn around and take a couple steps that way, she takes off for home.  She's a smartie!

Better go now.  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning, everybody from the Interior where the weather is the same as the past couple of days. It's either partly sunny or partly cloudy; your call!

Yesterday I spent some time in the malls paying bills and buying groceries. I purchased plants for the windows and a new coffee pot but forgot eggs! Taxis are closer to normal, only a 15-20 minute wait instead of an hour or more.

I also finished many old nagging jobs around the house but left some new ones undone. Is it kosher to add finished older jobs to my to-do list so that I can check them off? That dartboard is looking better and better!

Today will be all about vacuuming. I lead such an exciting life!

Either this following weekend or the next, on the summer solstice, my friends and I will be having what we're calling a "Get re-acquainted potluck barbeque." For some of us, it's been a year since we've physically gotten together. Will we even recognize each other?   :-\   :)

Since 8 o'clock this morning when I posted until almost 10 tonight, there's been one other post around 9 this morning.  I was going to report that I might not be around to post tomorrow but I guess there won't be anyone around to miss me.

Good night and God bless everyone who has something better to do!  I hope what you're doing is making you very happy!

I hope you all enjoyed a nice Saturday.  It was a warm one here so we stayed in all afternoon playing games and the like.

We took dinner to Dave and Michele's yesterday afternoon.  It was nice to be together.  Michele tried to join us at the table, but she did not stay long😩. We had a small gift and card opening, but she was not able to enjoy it😩😢

Friday I did see my new diabetes doctor.  He was elated at my weight loss, my blood sugar numbers etc.  I do like him a lot and think I have found a endocrinologist that will indeed help me.

IT IS LATE, so Iwill say good night and wish you a good rest.

Good morning...

No rain, not one little drop  fell. We now have a fire ban on in this area.

Laundry, washing floors and just catch up on what ws missed in the past week. Folks came and picked up a trug and today we have 2 more trugs leaving ,if not all 4 if the fellow can do it.

Jenny, way to go on the weight loss! Means a lot when you like the Dr and work together well on  your health. I hope and pray that Michele starts to feel a lot better..

Jane, yes we would miss you, don't think otherwise. I have been so busy this past while that I have hit the bed early.  Not a fan of this heat one bit!

Patricia, now that sounds like a fun outing....catching up on all that has been missed in the past. Will you have time to eat? :2funny:

My git  up and go has got up and went but I had better shake a leg and git at it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from the Interior. This city sprawls alongside rivers, ridges, and foothills. Add in a pandemic, and no one is eager to leave home. We're still seeing rogue outbreaks and new variants.

Go into any store, and you need your mask. Take socially distanced public transportation, and there are plexiglass barriers. I coughed in the grocery on the fourth, and I received several dirty looks and lots of space.

I'm just now seeing my house looking clean and put together after February and able to lift, carry and clean without an hour of rest for every fifteen moments of effort. It's amazing how satisfying that is, and I feel more human.

It's been decided that we'll hold the big reveal on the Solstice weekend. We'll be up on Murphy's Dome, overlooking the city, and it's going to be so green and welcoming. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm here, been reading and grateful for the folks that post.... but I can't seem to get caught up on just the every day deeds and know if I stop to talk my fingers will keep on blabbling & I will get more behind. Now is THAT a sentence or not???

Guess I might as well get my whine over with. I HATE summer! Felt so hot yesterday, was humid and the numbers could have been worse (and will). Where are you, Gloria?

Amy, all of my tomato plants are full of little green tomatoes now. The plants are taking over the trug so am thinking about just pulling up the lettuce for now. Those plants were so tiny when I put them in I put 2 together of the Early Girls & Big Boys and the larger one Beef Steak in the middle.... Live n learn, huh? You may hear me scream if a bug or bird goes after the first tomato to start turning~~

Jenny, glad you have found someone to work with. My daughter has a whole team that is going to pull in all her records to see what they can do with her Crohn's problems. Since she retired her stats have been getting better with every check up, but she had a bad time not long ago that she thinks was really food poisoning since it hit her son at the same time (same food). I plan to call my doc tomorrow to see if I can get the anti-body test. Youngest son & daughter keep sending me links to "findings" that people that had Covid are showing more anti-bodies than some people that got the shot. I'm not willing to chance taking the shot, knowing how my body reacts to anything injected or swallowed. I'd like to feel free to get in on the 4th of July activities (these kids go wild on the 4th). Do wish Michele could feel stronger but know she is getting the best care possible. So hard to keep cheerful. Always prayers....

Jane, thanks for holding the fort while everyone was missing "the other day". I think Patricia also helped out, so thanks to you, Ms.Alaska! I do envy you that gathering.

Lloyd, I'm hoping to get to Truman Lake later on, not sure when. I've been hearing that MO is having a tick problem this year. I remember one year we pulled onto the lot we had at TipTop (on highway 7 east of #65), and ticks were dropping off the trees. We moved on to the campgrounds. When we finally sold the lot (it was a wedding present), I told the buyer I wanted a hickory stick... so cut down a young tree in the center of the lot & just gave it to my daughter to carve into a walking stick. She is sentimental so hopefully will do a nice job.

Wishing all a Super Sunday, enjoy whatever you choose to do!  Shirley

It's been a busy day and I'm all in...including my shoe strings and that's bad because I don't have any shoes with shoe strings any more.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy *not so hot) tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

No rain again  last night, maybe tonight?? I did water everything as one can not count of the weather report it seems. Day is starting off sunny and will work up into another fry day. Hubby has an appointment by phone with his rheumatologist and the rest of the day is ours.

Noticed last night that the lingering scent of both the lilacs and lily of the valley are now gone for another year. Song birds were striking up a chorus in  the haunting sound of loon was echoing across the lake. Do not need music when nature is around.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning from an Interior who, while slowly inching up the heat, (seventy-six forecast today), remains partly sunny or partly cloudy. By noon or later, the skies turn purple, and we have a small thunder, lightning, and rain display.

The Accuweather monthly map shows more of the same until July third, when we are to reach eighty degrees with thundershowers. Jane, Shirley, the weather and day-to-day business is all I've got to report. If I and others save for something exciting in these fraught times, the forum will die out in all probability.

I list my daily expected chores and end up doing others. I end up ignoring what's been on my list for three days to do something listed days earlier. I don't get outside because one, I have three months of chores saved up due to disability, and two, this city is still on lockdown, so any summer events are still canceled.

I wish to list the card games, shopping, cookouts, and gossip sessions we had pre-pandemic. And I look forward to having them again when we've come out the other side.

So far I haven't accomplished much today, I did vac the pool, it is staying surprisingly nice. I called to have Walmart order a 4th tire for the back of the RV but they can't order a matching tire to the 3 they put on new last fall. At that time nobody thought the 4th tire was bad but when my son went to check air in them this spring, he couldn't see what the inside duel called for. The other/new 3 call for 90 lbs but the 2 front that we replaced the fall before call for 80 lbs & we are pretty sure that is what that 4th tire is. SO, to have all 4 back the same I should replace, right? They are Michelin, so after my first reaction  :banghead:  :cussing:    I will see if I can order the matching one & have it delivered to my Walmart auto for them to put on. Will need to ask the Walmart auto man if that's okay. What a pain!!! Must get rid of this RV.

Next gripe is that the gnats, spiders & whatever little flying/crawling bugs that call Kansas home, have invaded the trug. Totally icky to put my hand in to pluck those lettuce leaves, so I will put on rubber gloves & pull all the endive, spinach & lettuce. The tomatoes are popping out all over the plants but I will need to put on something to keep the bugs away. WHAT TO DO?  One more reason I dislike summer... BUGS!

Called my doctor's office this morning to see if not time for the bone scan, was diagnosed with full blown osteoporosis about 25-30 years ago & kept it "no worse" all these years by taking the iron & bonemeal tablets I took when pregnant. Tried that because the med I tried, a nasal spray, did me in on the 3rd day. Anyway, I quit taking the vitamins after having open heart surgery since I can't take the blood thinners. The nurse tells me not the same but who knows? I am getting that familiar heart burn like when PG (know not a possibility) & what made me try it for osteo, so time to check the condition. Sure is a lot of trouble getting old, minding my own business and behaving.... ::) And that's how my day has gone!

Time to eat lunch. My Sam's Club meat man told me yesterday they can't grind the hamburger anymore. They get the already packaged stuff and would you believe, the cats refuse to eat it?  I bought some from Walmart & they just walked away like I offered poison! So I bought an eye of round to cut up for them to eat. They like raw meat & I'm trying to keep them full without them going after the baby birds that are just learning to fly. I tried cooking chicken for them, they did NOT like it, so I shared my bucket of KFC with them & they grudgingly ate both of the breast pieces (2 meals). They always have the dry Indoor Delights plus a can of Friskies once a day and either people salmon or tuna for breakfast. I am really on a grouch today, begrudging cats their food.  ::)  That's MY WORLD!

I heard the robins raising the roof while ago & here came Tiger with a baby in her mouth.... dead. I grabbed a plastic grocery bag & threw the bird in the trash because it was already dead. ICK! So now she is in the basement sleeping, in disgrace, I yelled at her! Tom is laying on the step to my bedroom, showing me what a good boy he is. Callie is sleeping in her garage, gnats don't bother her in there.

Andy is going to come get his camper later this evening so he can work on & pack for his trip to CO. Wah.... I want to go! Onward!

Okay, Patricia, I will play nice with the cats!

Shirley, I am with you on the heat! We tried having a tea outside on the verandah and it is just too hot. I know I gripe about the bitter cold so I had better balance it with griping about the  heat.  Happy to read your tomatoes are doing great and yes, we do learn not to over crowd the trug. Just think of a fresh tomato still warm from the heat in a toasted tomato sandwich. You sure have had your problems with this RV.

Jame....HMMM........did you forget the words to the song?  :)))

Patricia, all morning I have been trying to accomplish one chore and each time another chore comes into play and sets it on the rear burner for now. Love your thought for today and how true it is!!

Lloyd, where are you??

Amy, I think Lloyd has become lost in past S&F forums and can't find his way back.

Shirley, Roundup kills birds and wildlife and can cause human cancers. However, you can use garden plants and oils   https://www.treehugger.com/plants-that-repel-unwanted-insects-4864336

Question for you, Amy.... do you drink your tea "English style"?  When I first got to England one of my English friends/neighbors wanted me to try tea "her way" since she didn't have coffee to offer me. I learned to love it & any time my daughter is here we get out the brown tea pot & have a cuppa. When she was the only one we would stop at one of the shops downtown & I would get a cup & they'd bring her a cup of half hot water & milk so I could dip my tea bag (yes, no loose tea at these shops) in to color hers. Next kid wasn't born until she was 5. Lost a couple between.

Patricia, that looks like a great site so I bookmarked. I understand we should never quit learning but my brain can't hold anymore!!!!

Andy just left with his camper. He will spend the evening & tomorrow getting it cleaned up & loaded. He buys all his supplies (groceries) when he gets to Salida, before going UP the mountain. I will debate all week whether to make the drive, shouldn't, but will.

Thanks for the news about Gloria, Jane. Sorry your new ears aren't working like you wish. My father never got used to the extra NOISE from his so they spent most of the time in the box. He liked his world the way it was!  I really don't like changes, maybe you noticed?

I've been checking Walmart's computer department every time I go in... looks like very few for sale with the China import problem. My old computer that started out as XP but updated to 7 & then Windows 10, is still so slow I don't have the patience to use it. Andy put in more memory but it didn't help much. The other old one started as Vista but never has been updated (both Toshiba laptops) has to have an external monitor & not sure how long it will hold together, so would like to have another laptop before this gives out. I paid a whole $250. for it on sale at Walmart in Salida, CO one year. Andy set it up while camping (had his solar panels) & has been so good, touch screen & can't get over how problem free except for a hic-cup now & then. It came with Windows 10, HP, 1 T... good buy! The one I had been looking at to order was over $1,000 & I don't think it had any more to offer than this one. Hope Gloria gets what will make her happy.

I've sunk to iced tea these days. Yes, better than Coke or Pepsi for me, even tho I do put in half a cup of sugar to the quart+ container. I buy the Lipton instant & use a heaping T to that pot, but it's keeping me off the Cokes.

I didn't go down to the river, Andy was by & I had a bite to eat & daughter called & talked so now it's mosquito time & I'm staying inside. The river is still high & one place near the bank that used to be river bottom has water that runs through & keeps muddy till it goes down. Poor fish will think I've moved! Going to get another snack & get ready for bed early. Not getting enough sleep & probably not time for a nap tomorrow.

My doctor agreed to get me tested for anti-bodies and also time for the full bone scan, so will hear from them tomorrow about that appointment. Not eager to go into any clinics these days but do need both of those tests.

New glasses should be in on Sat, I hope he makes sure they don't put that anti-fog junk on them. If the new sunglasses work like I hope, I think I will insist they remake these if they can't remove that coating. They are difficult to keep clean & can't use the Zeiss lens wipes I've always used when traveling (keep some in my purse) and directions say to not clean under running water. Only the spray & their little satin type cloth... well, that's sure not handy!  I was shocked at the price, wrote a check for over $750. on top of the $150, that they said Medicare would pay for first glasses after cataract surgery (one pair). I've never had to pay that much for glasses before, but I can read the street signs again!  I still take them off to read or be on the computer more than a second. Never needed glasses for reading, but with these "progressives" I can at least glance at my watch or the speedometer & see, if I tip my chin up. No magnification in the bottom. Some days you win and some you lose, right? I am using my old frames for the sunglasses because they don't have any with the spring nose pieces & also ear pieces & my nose hurts where these new ones sit & behind the ear, hurts, no springs.

That's all, folks, sweet dreams & God Bless. Shirley

This heat wave can break anytime here.  Nothing planned for today so will see how the day goes. Yesterday we got our second covid shot so that is done for now.

Patricia, now that is an idea to get the jobs done!! Put up little lists and if you hit them that would be the job for the day. Your friend has a great sense of humor.

Jane, Kyle had those and said it was like having his head in a barrel. He now has the ones that go behind the ear.

Mickie and I have had breakfast and our first long walk of the day before it gets too hot for that!

AMY, I started with the over the ear aids and I couldn't keep them in my ears.  I'd put them in, walk out of the bathroom and the left one would fall into my hand.  The right one stayed in but within an hour, my ear hurt so bad, I wanted to cry.  Then the right one started popping, too.  I was afraid to leave the house with them in my ears because I thought I'd lose them.

If I can't get used to these, I'll just have to go back to saying "HUH?" and smiling a lot!

PATRICIA, I like the dart board, idea.  But what do you do when a neglected job rears it's ugly head and demands attention?

Today the bills are hollering their heads off. It seems they want me to pay them!  I guess I better listen to them.  I don't have to worry about cooking today.  I have plenty ahead even if Frankie shows up for a meal!

My tomato plants are getting big and healthy looking!  There's even one little bitty tomato trying to grow.  I hope the animals don't find it before it gets big and red.  My mouth is already watering!

I better get the day going.  I hope you all have a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from the Interior! A place where Mother Nature still believes it's early April! At least there are, so far, no fires burning through the tundra.

I schedule a job by day, and they are done three days later, not on the day they're scheduled. On those scheduled days, I work at everything else, non scheduled. The joke was that I should make a running list and throw a dart for the day's job du jour. And, that, my friends, is how I need up with a dartboard.

I just read two disturbing but all too common articles, one dealing with a woman shamed by her doctor, saying "she didn't look unhealthy because she couldn't eat," only to find from a second opinion, that she had a large tumor and stage three colon cancer.

The second was a family starting a foundation to supply free EpiPens to those in need after their thirteen-year-old daughter, who was very diet careful, died from a school-provided desert containing allergens.

Since I had colon cancer and treatment in 2000 and have a serious food allergy and an EpiPen, I know how common yet often undervalued both issues are

If you feel ignored or patronized, run, don't walk to an immediate second opinion!.

Temperatures in the 80's now and they are predicting in the 90's for the remainder of the week.  After all the rain we've had, the humidity is draining.  Actually have my A/C running right now.  But, I am fixing to leave for appt. to get my second Covid Vaccine shot!  Yea.  And I will be through with that, till they decide we will all need boosters.

Hearing is still basically good.  Been having a bit of trouble with eyes, and it is time for my annual appointment.  The glasses are extremely expensive, and I always use my existing frames for the lens change-out.  I get the lenses that darken automatically, and much better than buying a second pair.  It is worth the extra for these darkening lenses. (and not too much extra, considering how much the trifocals cost)

Hope everyone is doing well health-wise.  I know, I know...there are days when we feel like we're falling apart, with a new ache or pain.  Some days I feel like Rice Krispies, I go snap, crackle and pop when I walk!

Keep on, keeping on!  Love y'all!

Here's another concern. Alaska has long had a monopoly on fresh-caught wild, not farmed Pacific salmon that is inarguably better health and otherwise for human consumption. Now a "Massachusetts company is sending genetically modified salmon to dinner tables in the U.S. for the first time. AquaBounty Technologies said it's shipping five tons of bioengineered salmon to distributors this month.

It's marketed as a sustainable alternative to other kinds of salmon. But AquaBounty's fish hasn't received the warmest reception in Alaska, where it's often called "Frankenfish."'

Well, Patricia, I've been watching the fish market and do my best to NOT buy any caught or raised in the China waters, I don't trust them. BUT, I do like salmon and buy from Sam's Club but am concerned that so much is coming out of China these days. I talked to my meat man at the Kroger chain here & he said they do have from the Pacific NorthWest BUT most aren't willing to pay the 4x price. I was so disappointed in his message. I used to buy cod & some of the other non-coated fish from Sam's but all of a sudden it was "a product of China". The breaded fish, which I think is mostly bread & way too much sodium, etc, can be "product of the US" but anymore they stretch the words meaning "packaged in the US, on lots of things. I am against genetic engineered foods but know we are consuming more than we realize, on the other hand, I don't like finding a worm in my ear of corn!

I am dead on my feet tonight, been a rush rush day & so many things I did NOT get done! Off to bed as soon as I have a snack. Cats are all outside, we walked down to the river & since I had my rubber boots on, out to throw bread to fish that weren't there. Summer is here, ICK! I'll be counting the weeks until fall. When is Summer Solstice, Patricia?  Okay, June 20 at 10:30 CST.

Night all.... sweet dreams and God Bless!  Shirley

It's way past time to call it a day.  My feet came to a full stop about 2 hours ago and my eyes went into slamshut mode and I think my mouth tried to say something but it came out sounding like a snore if it came out at all.  I've worn out, too hot, crumpled, and I can't see.  I'm off to the haystack.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy (cooler) tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

And by the way, where did tha "Joannie" come from?

Alaskan sold fish is wild-caught , not farmed. The genetically enhanced fish is a mixture of "AquaBounty's salmon is a genetic mixture of three different fish — Atlantic salmon, chinook salmon, and the eel-like ocean pout. It grows twice as fast as its non-engineered counterparts, reaching full market size in 18 months.

AquaBounty is a Massachusett company, and the fish, genetically enhanced, was originally sold in Canadia and Panama.

PATRICIA, I figured out that You were talking to Tomereader but I NEVER saw her identified by name before.  If she was, I missed it.

Good morning ..

Lovely sunny day so far. Light sprinkle of rain yesterday, far cry from what they said were were to get.

Another day of tossing the coin and seeing what does or doesn't get done.

Patricia and Shirley , I am also very picky when it comes to fish. HATE farmed fish and those that come from China. Used to get one product that was very good and not from there but now to find it in the stores. To get away with telling you that it is not from there they can say packaged in US or Canada.

Jane gonna be a hot one here and I am so ready for it to cool off.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Another gripe about "hot & humid" already. ICKY! It's already too windy to turn on the sprinklers but the grass is drying out fast, as well as young trees (and me).

Had a call from Andy last night, tire blew out not far from the state line, but he was in CO. Planned to open his little camper in a Walmart parking lot & wait until the auto shop opened to get a new tire put on the rim so he had a spare again. I do think we both pack too heavy but just a tiny doubt the tires aren't quite as good as 20 years ago? The tires are almost new.  Bless his heart, he knows how to do anything on a car, when in college he bought a very pretty Olds that had "blown" it's diesel engine & put a whole new gasoline engine & transmission in it. Kept till well past college years.

Cats are fed & I am hungry. Figure he will give me a call when he is back on the road. Today I plan to put on gloves & pull out all the lettuce so the tomatoes can just take over. I will get a photo to send Bubble showing all those little green tomatoes! Enjoy your day!  Shirley

Good morning from a damp Interior; last night's partly cloudy has become a steady drip. I had understood that to be the case mid-night when my bathroom trip was more of an osteo hobble! We're still increasing in temperatures, but all the sunshine has gone elsewhere! Accuweather posts, "Cloudy with occasional rain and drizzle, mainly early in the day."

Shirley, it seems as if your family has issues with tires. Manufacturers will tell you, years but Consumer Reports' customer surveys say within the first five years for an appliance, and Car and Driver Magazine states, "It may be tentative, but tires do have an expiration date."

"There is a general consensus that the driver/owner should inspect most tires, if not replaced, at about six years and should be absolutely swapped out after 10 years, regardless of how much tread they have left. How do you know how old your tires are? There's a code on the sidewall."

Of course, that is assuming it's a good tire, and you're not a  rushing and stopping quickly type of driver, according to the site.

Wild-caught fish has been one of Alaska's main exports since the early nineteen hundreds, so we're going to be for that as a matter of course, but nutritionists say they're better for you anyway. Colorado State University's Nutrition Center says, "Contaminants: Some studies have shown how farm-raised varieties can be higher in contaminants. Additionally, farm-raised fish tend to have a higher instance of disease due to farming conditions."

" It is important to note that mercury can be found in both farm-raised and wild-caught seafood due to industrial pollution that finds its way into lakes, rivers, and oceans. Large predatory fish have the most mercury. It is recommended that pregnant women and children avoid fish with the potential for the highest level of mercury (shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish)."

On a personal note, I have to thank Claire for her dartboard and this site for allowing me to vent. While the dartboard is still in its case, I had been so frustrated with my procrastination that I finished everything on my list yesterday, past and present.

Today, I plan to head into my refrigerator's depths with soap and a good scrub brush. I have those glass storage boxes I purchased last February and want a clean spot to organize and store the food.

Tomorrow, I may go crazy and wash my linens before packing most for donations. I have to believe that someday we will be able to take those donations elsewhere!

Again, I am so astounded at what a wild, crazy and exciting life I lead! Well, one of those at least...

Good Morning from the
still hot and humid,  rocky coast of
Maine.  It is suppose to cool off tomorrow
and last for the rest of the beautiful
"Rare Month of June "

Regarding Farm grown and genetically altered
Fish...    Not  for me.

I am sure that the day will come when that is all
that we will be able to get. If we all
survive that long.

I don't trust the state of the world, (global warming etc)
nor the State of our Country..  and I fear
when things start to go bad (worse) here,
it will happen fast and furious and things
will never be the same. If at all.

Opps..  negative thinking?  Not GOOD 8(
I will stop..  Have a good week
everyone.  And stay Cool!

A good Wednesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 💐

I have been keeping up by reading all the wonderful subjects in your posts, but sadly I do not have much to add.....just not in a very good state of mind these days😩🥲

SHIRLEY, it was so nice and green here and then a couple of windy 90 degree days and everything is looking heat stressed for sure. MY PHONE just announced a excessive heat warning for your location‼️ YIKES‼️‼️
I am sorry Andy has tire issues, but do hope all turned out well and he made it to his camping spot🙏

My best to you all.

I'm heading to bed, talked to both kids that are traveling. Andy found a spot in the campground to get a cell signal. All the years since cells we have had to drive about a mile down the mountain to the Mt.Princeton Lodge to get a signal so he's pretty smug about being able to call tonight.

Thanks for the post from Lloyd, Amy. I do feel for them but at the same time was concerned that Bob had been all too willing to drop everything to help Lloyd, afraid it was more than just "goodness of his heart". Hope this does have a happy ending.

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. I didn't get any outside jobs done today, SO hot. Will try to move earlier in the morning (my list grows!)  Love ya all..........Shirley

I'm off to the haystack before it comes after me!  Today was a very difficult day but it had it's good side too.

First was Mickie's regular visit with the Vet.  She passed all her tests and only came home with eye drops.  She has a red eyeball and it's having some leakage so she has to have eyedrops and then go back in a week for a check up.  Otherwise, she's pretty healthy for an old lady!

This afternoon was my bi-yearly checkup and I had to ad one medication for a week to see if my itchies can be conquered.  If there's no difference in a week, I get to just tolerate them without meds.  I'm OK with that.  The less meds the better!  Also my blood pressure has come down into the safe zone...Waaaaay into the safe zone so I'm doing all the right stuff! And I'm pretty healthy for and old lady, too!

The bad part of all this is that when I got home after my appt.  I was totally exhausted.  I guess that's part of getting old!  I don't think I'll make 2 appointments on the same day again.

SHIRLEY, I have one little bitty green tomato on my vines and I feel honored!  But we planted about a week...maybe 2 behind you!  The beets I got at Davy's last week were delicious.  I think I'll make a quick trip over there and get some more tomorrow.  I'm going to need to can some this summer because I'm all out and I think I'm going to can the juice too because drinking it is very good for the blood pressure!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy (cooler) tomorrow!  And may God bless us every one!

OH! NO! HERE COME THE ZZZZZS TO GET ME!

Jane, way to go on getting a good report...getting older is not for sissies but we can do it!!

Shirley great that Andy could keep in contact with you, even if he is smug about it. :) See Mom I Can do it!

Better get out and water the plants before the heat gets unbearable.

Enjoy you day and stay safe.

well back when I was able to put in 18 or 20 hours a day and get up and do same over next day. I did and gave things away. I gave Bob all the demotions lumber boxing sheeting and bricks for his house and helped him put them on the house, that amounted to thousand's of $$$$. I am not the one that ran backwards, I turned the other cheek several times. I am 83 years and out if energy, he is in his early sixty's or late fifty's. Lot of deference i think as most of you will agree. and his brother in law and sister told us to watch him, he is not a good person. But I trust everyone until they prove different, an he has. Good Morning Everyfriend!

LLOYD, I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING AMY SAID! ENJOY YOUR FAMILY! PUT BOB IN THE HOLE WHERE HE BELONGS AND DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT HIM ANY MORE.  HE PROVED HE'S NOT WORTH IT!

Now the day begins.  I'm (sort of) planning my weekly run to Davy's!  I like to go on Thursday because that doesn't seem to be as busy as other days.  I'm waiting to see if Cooper is coming over.  Frankie said she'd let me know this morning.

I thought it was supposed to rain during the night but if it did, it wasn't enough to see so I watered the plants this morning.  They acted like they were really thirsty!

Now, what shall I do while I wait for time for Davy's?

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from a cloudy but dry Interior where temperatures are still slowly climbing. The refrigerator/freezer was all cleaned and polished yesterday, with a lot of old stuff tossed and glass boxes organizing what's left. I have both leftover wire shelving and glass boxes. Hmmmmm.

Now my kitchen, bath, and bedroom are organized, drawers tidy, and I even reset my computer laptop. What can I get into now?

Lloyd, glad to see you and sorry for what you & Nancy are going through. Sadly, some people "do favors" for a reason, to force payback over & over.  I'm older than you so I know these things! Haha... Seriously, I've become cynical (believing that people are motivated by self-interest) the older I get, so my daughter sort of raised her eyebrows at one of my cracks about someone while she was staying with me during the cataract surgeries. I could tell she thought I was being overly critical about someone UNTIL... yep, a worm turned on her and reality/shock hit her in the face. I guess there have always been people that only do what will benefit themselves, but a lot of people "smile because they want to make someone else feel happy". Hopefully we will all meet enough people with true, kind & generous hearts that they will "out number" the greedy, sneaky & conniving ones.

I had my own disappointment this morning. I've been shopping online for a self-propelled vacuume sweeper like my old Hoovers that are worn out. BUT, can't find one, only one like it is "out of stock". SO, yesterday I checked yellow pages for a vacuume repair shop & called to ask if they worked on these old Hoover Wind Tunnels... person said they did & would give a free estimate what it would cost for repairs. I loaded one of those heavy dudes in the back seat of this tiny Encore & took it down today. Lady at the desk said they couldn't get parts for them at all~~~ No debate or "let's have a look at it" or anything! I was foaming at the mouth after the struggle to get it in the car. I left with a smile that not sincere! Had she been at all congenial I would have looked at the models on that show room floor! No way would I do business with that place!

One of my two still propels forward but not back, both motors are fine, probably belt problems so will see if son, Andy, will find time to have a look one of these days. I bought a top of the line Shark that can take the power head off to use, bUT it doesn't stand on it's own or have power drive feature. Hard to admit but the energy & power drive in this 86 year old body is running down.

Can't find help, people around here are used to big money working for the aircraft industry & are making too much money to NOT work when laid off. Oh, well, little dust never hurt anyone, right? Think this calls for a nap. I did get the trimming done early & pulled the lettuce out of the trug... The wind is bouncing tree branches up & down and it's blistering hot.

Day is done... Gone the sun....

The zzzzs in the haystack are calling my name and the slamshuts have taken over my eyeballs.  I'm heading for the hay!

But I have to tell you that all that talk of salmon made me hungry for some and since Davy's only carries natural and home grown foods, they've begun to carry wild caught salmon from Alaska.  I bought two patties today and checked out what all they have.  I'll be back to that case for sure and I'll think of PATRICIA when I eat it!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

This is going to be a quick one because Mickie got us up very early this morning and after she did her thing, I chose to go back to bed for a bit.  It turned out to be an hour and a half!  I guess I wasn't finished!

Now she's thinking of a walk and we need to get that in before the "swelters" or the predicted rain comes.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

My mouse was getting on his nerves yesterday, has not worked right since I got home from rehab. He called las t night  and told me when he left here he went and bought me a new one and will bring it Saturday, hope he brings my little Sweetie with him.

Good  to be back. I sure missed all of you.  Yvette is now on vacation and will be gone a couple of weeks. She needs to see a doctor when she gets home because she has arthritis in both knees and needs both replaced. I so dislike haveing someone different every day. Some are lazy and others just do not know how to even wash dishes. Oh well-Beggars cannot be choosers-well I am not a beggar but I cannot choose who I want either or the time they are sent.

Good morning, it's cloudy and 56° here this morning, heading for a high of mid-seventies. In other words, the same as the past week. Hmmm, while it says, Accuweather, that is, that we're to have a thundershower this morning, but that the probability of thundershowers is zero.

Jane, Alaska, is surrounded on three sides by water, to the North and Northwest the Beaufort Sea and the Chukchi sea, both of which merge into the Arctic Ocean. To the Southeast is the Gulf of Alaska, which blends into the Pacific Ocean. And the Bering sea is to the Southwest. On the East is Canada, and that border is 1,538 miles long. So, we've been friends with Canada and fishing a long, long while.

Amy, I'd love to come and help, especially if meals were included!  8)

So much of what's been done has sat there waiting since February! Now I can breathe again!

Gloria, so nice to see you, and I hope you get to see your great-grandson too. I was hoping to get housekeeping here, but with the pandemic, agencies were overstressed and overwhelmed, providing only minimal services and those with a waiting period!

Oh, Amy, I'm giggling so hard the screen is bouncing (okay, it's my eyes)... thanks but NO thanks to a wooly pig! I want a watch dog, not cats or anything that can't bark!

Lloyd, we've been having the off & on showers for a couple hours, was sweltering hot all day & so humid it was hard to breathe. Have almost an inch of rain in the gauge, we needed it and the pool also needed some. This hot dry wind just sucks the moisture out.

Patricia, I haven't slowed down to check your links.... phone calls & ran to the optical shop to pick up my new sunglasses. They didn't do quite as good of job on them as the first pair without tint, but I left those glasses to have them take that blasted "fog protection" off. That drove me nuts trying to clean them. He said they will have to remake them so I offered to GIVE them back the frames I paid for from them, if they will put the new lens in some of my old frames. The old ones have spring nose & ear pieces and are so comfortable compared with these titanium ones they are so proud of. Anyway, will be a difficult week trying to use sunglasses all the time. I see fine for anything up close or near but even across the room starts to blur.

Radar sure is not showing all this rain over Wichita! Still hear some thunder. Tom & Callie were out when it started so they are hunkered down & won't be back until it's over. They know where to go to stay dry.

Gloria, hope the new mouse helps. Sorry Yvette is on vacation & may need surgery. Hopefully you will get someone you can enjoy and she will know how to get a job done. I am shocked at how much strength I've lost in my hands & legs. Got to do something to build back up or I won't have the strength to drive.... and as John Wayne would say, "that'll be the day!"

Have any of you heard from Bubble?  I left a message over in Photos but so far nobody has said anything. I sent her a couple photos the other day, (my growing tomato crop) but haven't heard if she got them. Last post I saw was a photo she had from Don.

Eweeee... the sky just turned that slime green. Very pretty & no warnings of severe weather. Trees are bouncing with wind gusting from different directions. Interesting (to me).

I'm going to put my jammies on & be ready for bed as soon as Tom & Callie show up. They get one more meal before bedtime. Tomorrow I hope to clean out the garage while Andy's camper is in Colorado. Such a mess out there, Callie has 2 litterboxes & the training pad but not sure if it is she or some other critter that visits when I leave the garage door up a tad, but somebody has missed all the proper places. The floor needs a good scrub out, quite a job with so many boxes of stuff sitting around, have to drag all out to the yard before getting the hose out.

Sky still green & trees swinging every direction. Lightning & thunder but NO warnings. Pool water is to top of skimmer so somebody better turn the faucet off.

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Thanks for the update about Bubble, Amy

That was interesting I thought. To put a firefighter in full gear and a soldier in full gear alongside a knight in an authentic suit of armor and have all three compete against each other on an obstacle course!

I would root, Amy, for the first one and then for another!  :smitten:

Remember the guy on "Green Acres" who had the pig that wore clothes and could talk so his owner could understand him?  SHIRLEY, that might be fun!

I'm ready to hit the hay.  I didn't know the slamshuts could get away.  I thought they just stayed here and tormented me.  Today, I had a bad case of the "do-nothings"!  The only constructive thing I got done was clean the strawberries I got at Davy's and made dinner.

I ate one of the salmon patties I bought yesterday with sweet potato french fries in the air fryer and some frozen peas for supper.  It was pretty good!  Maybe more tomorrow.  I got 2 patties.

I hear the zzzzs out in the hall.  They're coming for me!  I'm ready!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning everyone. well I agree with you  Shirley, I am ready when we get the R V put back together to hit the road. May rattle your cage for a little on our way west to Page to see brother and sis in law. I would like to drop on down to Lacrosse NM. and see folks there we know from Armey days.
when we was in the Armey and stationed there at white sands. when we lived there was open Land over the organ mouton and also to El Paseo Texas. Now it Is wall to wall all the way. we did not even get a enough rain to talk about, just a few sprinkle's drops. Sun has not showing it's face yet here today.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We got a nice, slow, soaking rain overnight.  We really needed it!  And I'm grateful!

This is just a quick check-in because it's time for Mickie's walk and I'm not even dressed yet and when we come back from our walk, she's going to ride up to the the recycling center with me and help me dump stuff!  I missed them 2 weeks ago because they were closed for the holiday weekend so we have a LOT of stuff!

I'm having fresh, local strawberries with sugar and cream on them for my breakfast.  Isn't there an old nursery rhyme about eating "strawberries, sugar and cream"?

Have a good day, everyfriend...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning. I hit the floor running ..well sedate walk and we went to a store that was off limits and now open to customers. What a treat it is to be able to pick up items on your own. We don't realize just how lucky we are at times.

Laundry will be on the line and more trimming of trees
 will be done today.

Jane ,David picked up a flat of strawberries, they are now ready here and I may get some to freeze.

Shirley, I thought my son was pulling the "woo" over my eyes when she sent the photo. They actually went up and pet them.

Better get at my day.....the faster I go the behinder I get!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from a bright and sunny Interior with not a cloud in sight at 8:50 AM! We're in the mid-fifties presently and headed for the mid-seventies. I imagine all the children and adults who're off are making grand plans for the day.

I need to return and have my hearing retested, but not until February's medical bill has been brought down more.

The closest I've been to anyone making a living as an actor was babysitting a toddler who, as an adult, has acted in various soap operas for the past thirty years. I wouldn't recognize him today, and I'm sure I never made a lasting babysitter impression with him during those early months.

Callie, some of us post what we have when we're able. Now that I'm feeling better, I'm able to do more and am looking forward to seeing my friends again at a large gathering and barbeque on the solstice.

In many ways, my city has been and still is,  on the total lockdown that began in March 2020. Yesterday there were fifty new cases in the state, but we had four deaths. The cases are the lowest they've been, but new cases are still occurring, as are deaths.

Good morning every one, had some rain overnight, only know because the pavement is wet. Cloudy and in the low 60's but still very humid. Slept late and son will be here in half an hour and I am sitting  here with my coffee trying to really wake up.

PATRICIA  for such a small state we have a long shore line. North and part of east is Mass. and west is Conn. The rest is the Atlantic. Since Yve tte is on vacat ion the help I got yesterday was not a  CNA and could not give me a back massage that I really needed. She is a homemaker and pregnant, due next month. Her 4th one. Agencies here are short handed with so many having youngsters at home and no school they had to quit. Also they do not pay them much and some have a lot of driving between clients and do not have enough gas money to cover it so it comes out of the workers pockets.

AMY  thanks for the news about Bubble. I ha te any member of our "family" no t feeling up  to par.

My son has been here and lef t already.    He went to the farm and now I have a quart of beau tiful fresh s trawberries wai ting  to be washed and hulled.

CALLIE  I cannot even talk abou t the housework I did or the food I cooked. Canno t do eit her anymore, my cooking is TV meals, at least some of them are pretty good.

Better get a  move on and get dresse d out of my gown and robe before my grandson gets here.

Have a good day and be safe.

Gloria, it is the same here as to agency help available. I'm glad to see you can return to posting, and I hope your new mouse helps.

Your state may be smaller, but we share the majority of coastlines. And your state has a much higher population.

Alaska has 33,904 miles of shoreline. The estimated tidal shoreline, including islands, inlets, sounds, and bays, is 47,300 miles. In terms of land area at 570,380 square miles yet a population of 730, 359. Only Vermont and Wyoming have smaller populations.

At the suggestion of one of S&Fs posters I have decided to jump back in --- easy at first I suspect.
Bubble - Get well soon.
Don - Hello / good wishes.
I can ignore that which I feel is out of place, rude, or otherwise unacceptable.
Mary Page - I've been peeking in here since I went quiet but I like your posts, and that in part helped my decision to come back.
Too many nice people here to just walk away.

And I'm also happy to see you, too, Rick. Hope all is well in your world... for today, that's all we can count on. Big Welcome Back!

Just got a text from #1 son that #2 son made it to Salida, CO (in one piece). I took those boys out when they were 12 & 14 by myself. Their father & I took them the year before and he hated camping, hated bear country and hated not having a shower every day. They were 12 & 14 first time I took them out alone and now are 58 & 60... and I didn't get to go this year. My choice, well, my decision, because oxygen was in low 70s when I got there last year & I understand the "organs can start shutting down at that number". Anyway, guess my babies are grown up and can do without me.  :tissue:

Have I mentioned that I have bites ALL over my body, as we used to say, "where the sun doesn't shine". At first I figured it had to be chiggers that moved in with the high water because I did go down to the river without putting on bug spray. Also had been cutting down all the little trees that sprout up everywhere not wanted, so my arms in the weeds.... only today I did see a little black dot on Tom's orange fur & the dot moved into the fur so. I put the out of date Sentry Fiproguard on Tom & Tiger, still haven't caught Callie for treatment, and ordered new from Amazon that will have to wait a while before putting on. Do not know if this stuff is effective when out of date. I made a trip to Walmart for fresh "itch" medicine but doesn't seem to have any effect. Will be doing laundry from now to the end of summer to wash all the sheets & blankets & cat beds. I still have not really SEEN a flea, except that black dot on Tom, but this isn't my imagination!

And now it is time to eat, shower & go to bed again.

Hello Everyfriend!  Especially you, Rammel!  I've wondered where you've been and if we'd ever see you back again.  I'm so glad you decided to take a chance on us!

We had some rain off and on today.  I got all my stuff to the recycling and made a trip to WM.  It made me tired to go there!  I texted my daughter on vacation and told her how much I appreciate my personal shopper.  She does WM for me every week when she does her own.

Tomorrow we're supposed to have more rain.  In fact, it's supposed to start during the night.  It's ok with me.  I don't have any plans except to walk the dogggie and we can run between the drops.

JACKIE....thanks for the poem.  I actually recited it on my walk.  I just kept thinking about it and at first I did it backwards because I had the last line first and after I had it all put together, I did it frontwards.

AMY, I think that expression is "The HURRIER I go, the behinder I get".  Or am I wrong about that?  I first heard that expression from my grandmother!  So it must be OLD!

I had something nice happen on our walk tonight.  The great grandkids of my friends down the street came running out to greet me when I was passing the house.  We talked for a bit and I walked on.  When I turned to wave at them, their mother was just getting in the car and the little girl was running after me down the street.  She handed me a copy of each of the kids school pictures to hang on my fridge.  I was very touched!  I guess we really are friends!

I have to take Mickie for her last outie and then head for the haystack.  I'm tired but not as bad as I thought I'd be.

I wish you all pleasant dreams and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Ms. Jane and Everyfriend who joins in later.

AMY, I looked up that saying and we're both right!  It's been said both ways over the years!

Mickie has had her first outie and it's time for breakfast.  She hasn't seen fit to tell me that yet but she's starting to get antsy.

I have no special plans for today.  My church is having a special outdoor "Bless the farms" service today followed by a picnic and it's kind of far and kind of early.  I don't make plans to drive anywhere before 10 and this is about 8 or so miles beyond my current limit.  So I do not plan to go.  I really like this service but a limit is a limit!  And I'm sure God understands!

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning..

Calling for rain but doesn't look like it yet. Can't imagine how the crops will be this year if we soon don't get rain. A day of rest with just putzing about.

Jane, can't remember if I told you but the kids put in the crooked neck squash this year. I have a feeling it will take over their yard as they do grow! Their dogs won't eat their food unless there is a spoonful of pumpkin in it.

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Cats all fed, I've decided to go to the 11:30 service and offered to take my daughter-in-law to lunch if she wants to go that time (since both boys are in CO). Cats have been waking me us a the 3:00 am time frame so we eat & go back to bed until about 9:00 or 10:00... makes for a short day. At midnight my Fitbit gave my arm a buzz to tell me I already had my 150 zone min for the WEEK. Not sure how that can be, but I've usually got that done before Sunday is over. That's the time the heart rate is high enough to consider "cardio" speed needed to burn calories. How can that be the first min of counting? Don't know, but my daughter is both jealous & fearful that it isn't good but I can eat anything & don't gain weight. At 86 I'm not questioning, it's a fact.

Jane & Amy, I don't remember ever hearing that phrase before June saying, she was special & I do miss all those we've been lucky enough to meet over the years.

Better go put the French toast into the toaster that I got out of the freezer last night. I mix up a batch with 8-10 eggs for a sandwich loaf of bread, plenty of sugar, little milk & vanilla and a dash of salt, of course.... fry it & freeze. Figured when it showed up in the cases at the store I would freeze my own & know I'm getting all the food value needed. My freezer is full so must eat out of it before I can put anything in. Stacking up because I haven't been camping to use it up.

Well, I didn't wake up at that very early hour (cats all out) but up like a shot at 6:00. Been an hour & only thing to show for it was fed cats. Callie has decided she wants to stay in the garage all the time. not sure why but she is sure getting stiff. She will follow me around the yard if I go out, or down to the river. Poor baby, I just can't trust her in the house unless I have time to just sit & talk to her. I've got to get everything out & scrub that floor before the boys get back from CO & the camper goes in the other side.

It is absolutely still out, guess I'd better go turn the sprinklers on out front, the Bermuda grass is starting to green & spread. I don't care what kind grows as long as it grows. One house down the street had all new sod put in this week. I never saw that done this time of year but it was/is a reliable company doing the work. Sadly it doesn't stay perfect with all the weeds that grow along the hill going down to the river. The city is doing a good job keeping it mowed but doesn't stop the weed-seed from spreading to lawns! And that's how it is in Kansas!

Shirley ,were you tossing and turning all night!!  Camping has now opened in this area now , lots of motorhomes passing by on their way to different parks. We are also in a no burn area so no campfires and until we get rain it will remain so. Bugs are still bad not so blackflies but the darn skeeters. I just came in from watering the back garden and they soon find you and start to nibble!

Just talked with both Lloyd and Nancy ,Lloyds computer is giving him grief but he is getting it fixed.

Both dogs are laying flat out, one under my desk and the other beside us. She doesn't know it yet but she is going to get a pedicure  ;)  which she is not a fan of.

A good Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!  I am sorry I have not posted but I hope you all will understand that I do not have much to say at all EXCEPT thank you for being here and giving me a place to come in and read about what ever you have to chat about😘

Sadly, there is nothing good to report about Michele.  She is declining much faster than any of us are prepared to accept.  Hospice is involved and we are praying that Dave will accept more help from them. Michele has decided that the end is near and sadly we think she is correct 💔🙏 I wish more than anything that this were not where we are, but Michele has fought harder than pretty much anyone could as you all well know💔🙏All of your positive thoughts and prayers have meant so much to us and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts❣️

Happy wishes to all. We are here with family everyday now to assist any way we can💞

Jenny, I am so very sorry that she is ready to give up, but she has the right to be kept comfortable for the rest of her time. Every time I've known of someone turning to Hospice, they have been like angels with their service, the patient and family all share with their care. I do believe all of us in here have prayed and grieved with you and for you, and most of all for those children. She will remain in their hearts as a wonderful role model and tell their children what a brave person she has been during this time. Extra prayers that Dave can find peace with what Hospice can give all of them. He has fought hard to keep her and now it is harder to let go, but she is in good hands until she reaches out for God's hand.

Good Morning everyfriend!  It's a bit cooler this morning but humid!  The water company is flushing their systems this week and next week and I don't know exactly when my turn is so I have lots of good water sitting around.  I have to can the chicken broth today and I don't want the water to come out brown when I need it the most.

LLOYD, good wishes on  your move.  I know the hardest thing I've done in my life was to move out of the house where I raised my family.  I was packing boxes by myself and feeling down one day when my daughter, Christy stopped by to help.  when she asked what was wrong and I said, "It's so hard to leave the place that's been home to all of you for most of your lives and move into a place that never was even close to being your home."  She answered, Mom, don't you know that wherever YOU are is HOME to all of us.  It's not a place.  It's the people that make a home".  I never forgot that and it's turned out to be true.  I wish you luck, love and happiness in your new place!

I have to get ready for an appointment with the ear dr. this morning.  I hope she can adjust my "new ears" to screen out some of the "noise" and let in more voices!

I guess I better get something done before my appointment so I'm ready when I get home and I can make some progress.  My plan for today is to can the leftover chicken broth, chope up the chicken and bag it for soup, salad and dog food, and cook the ground turkey for "whatever".  Not a lot of stuff but time consuming.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning. It's one rare day here without a cloud in the sky, and we're back on our way to that 83° or higher that we reached yesterday.

Nothing on the horizon except housework that I put off all weekend and a computer account tweak here and there. Oh, and a phone call is needed for a lost account number. I hate those! To add insult to injury, their hold music is always tinny and off-key.

Lloyd, I can only agree with Jane, your family is your home. Your granddaughter, family, and your little great-grandson will be there with you and Nancy. And you will have new adventures!

Today is not only flag day, it's the first anniversary of the loss of my sister's husband.  I never called him my BIL.  He was always my brother!  I wished for him for a lot of years and he turned out to be the best brother any girl could ever have.  I spent an hour on the phone with my sister, remembering all the good times!  I think she needed to hear it said.

Now I'm off to the haystack.  I only got the chicken broth canned today.  Other stuff just kept cropping up so the chicken still had to be shredded and packed for future meals and the turkey burger still has to be cooked.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I know what my work will be when I get home.

We had a beautiful rain yesterday evening and into the night. At times it wa a deluge ,leaving ponds all over the lawn. No need to water now for a good week and I bet the rain barrel is filled to the brim!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My mornings have been starting early thanks to Mickie.  She seems to think that when daylight comes through the window, it's time to hit the deck running!  Around here, that's 5:30!

I figured out what the dogs have been barking out every time they're in the yard.  A couple of the feral cats have taken up residence in my neighbor's lilac bush and since they are on the side AWAY from THEIR house, they are visible to my dogs on MY side of the bush.  And they know the dogs are contained so they just lie there and stare while the dogs bark their heads off!  Doesn't matter what time it is.

I'm making a list for "Things to do Today" and I'm going to keep to it.  And that's what I'm saying right now.

AMY, are you making any jam with your strawberries?  I'm sure some will go in the freezer for savoring in the winter months!  Nothing like strawberry shortcake in January!

I better get started or today will end up like lots of other days...."DO NOTHING!"

I have to make a quick trip somewhere, probably Davy's.  I forgot to get a red onion that I need for a recipe.  Maybe I'll get a couple, chop them up and freeze some so this won't happen again.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, we have a lot of jam from  last year, these will go in the freezer and some on the table.
We don't eat a lot of jam her and I prefer raspberry or marmalade on  my toast. Will give some to the neighbour to enjoy. These are fresh picked, a family owned business where you can go and pick if you like.
I also have to come up with some ideas on how to preserve garlic..my friend said we are splitting on a bushel!! May try pickling some and try freezing some??
This rain will really help the gardens come along.
Smart cats, they know how to tease and torment the dogs!

Good morning everyone.  This lemon and Windows had done another update after I shut down. I did not want that update but it went on and back to where it was before my grandson was here. I was disgusted to say the least. I have used Google as my browser for several years and Microsoft was trying to do everything. All I did yesterday was play a few games of MahJong  that came in with it. In the evening I was playing MahJong when here we go again. Updating Windows 10 this time. I just  let it go and went to bed. This morning it was back to 2018 again grrrrr &(*&u#^)(.I finally got to this page and here I am. I am fine but  I want a new PC. Told my son and grandson t o get me a new one and get rid of this one. So tired of all the darn problems I have had with this HP since day 1.

JANE  you mentioned about yesterday being Flag day-3 years ago we had a big birthday party here for a lady who turned 100. She was so surprised. The next day her daughter took her  to Arizona where she lived so she could be with family there. A week later she had a stroke and passed away. We still miss her, she never acted her age and was always full of fun.

AMY  i t rained all day yesterday but we did not even get an inch of rain. Cloudy now and rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week.  I asked  to helper that was sent how good she is with back massage and she told me she was a homemaker and not a CNA. With this weather I sure need that massage. I hope today I do get a CNA.  Guess this is just a taste of what is instore for me when Yvette has the knee replacements.

JANE  I am sure it will NOT be a do nothing day for you. I wish I could do a fraction of all you do, especially cooking. Right now between cereal and the TV dinners that Yvette filled my freezer with I am eating nothing home made.

AMY  when you know how to preserve garlic let me know. I don't use much of it and throw more away than what I use. With an onion I chop it up and freeze it.

I better ge t moving and get dressed before today's new person gets here. Hope I can get here tomorrow and this lemon does not pull anymore surprises on me.

Have a good day and s tay safe

Good morning, another bright cloudless day in the Interior at 60° and heading toward another mid-eighties day. It's just after 7 AM, and Farrah and I have eaten, and showered, although she was more paws on with hers.

Today I'll still be working on different odd jobs and hopefully more laundry.

Gloria, I know what you mean about HP. However, I wouldn't recommend that company to anyone!

Yesterday, I had cucumber salad and burgers that were so good that I left the recipes for everyone in the recipe corner, "What's for dinner." Today will be the leftovers instead of the sausages I had originally planned. Last night was not enough, and I need more.   :)

Here's hoping everyone has a good day, and everything on their list is finished in record time!

Hey there, y'all!  It was a beautiful day in Central PA!  The high temps were in the low 70s and the sun was in and out...there but not blinding!  We had all our walks and I have stuff ready to make a new kind of relish and can it tomorrow.  I finished most of the important stuff on my list but one thing is left over for tomorrow.  Instead of picking up Cooper, Frankie decided to spend the night.  She brought the leftovers of a chicken she had in the fridge and I made tater tots and corn to go with it for supper.

She did the dishes after supper and I cleaned the leftover chicken off the bones and tomorrow we'll have chicken salad sandwiches for lunch.  I'm not sure what the rest of her plans are, she doesn't have to work but Cooper has an appointment at the groomer.  M

My grandniece is up here doggy sitting with my daughter's doggy while they are on vacation.  I'm thinking we might call her and see if she wants to go to The Fence for supper.

I'm also thinking that I might hit the haystack a bit early tonight.  I'm already walking in my sleep!

AMY, I'm not a fan of strawberry jam either but I love fresh strawberries in cream for breakfast...or lunch...or supper!  We have one of those family owned berry farms up the road from here, too.  You can go and pick your own and I'm on her email list to get notification when whatever is ready to be picked.  I didn't go for strawberries this year because I still have some jam and I could buy enough local strawberries at Davy's to just EAT!

My friend and I are going for black raspberries as soon as it's time.  That will be sometime in mid to late July!  I also need some red raspberries.  Raspberries are my favorites.  There used to be wild ones growing on my grandparents farm and it was an "eat all you can" whenever we went to the farm.  They always knew where to find us when the raspberries were ripe.

PATRICIA, I envy you getting your sorting and straightening up done.  Every day, I see something that I REALLY SHOULD do and most of the time, I don't do it!  I do something I'd RATHER do!

I'm going of now and finish up what needs to be done and going to bed early.  I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I am ready to roll into bed. Tiger doesn't want to go out but Tom & Callie are sitting around the pool, guarding their space. Earlier today I thought I saw Tiger sitting at the door so opened & that little stray shot out of here like a flash. I really didn't take a good look, but it sure wasn't Tiger! All have been fed & last load dry & folded, so I'm outta here!

Not sure the high, did hear the man on the radio mention 97 and 99 but haven't watched tonight to see what it actually got to. The outside themometer on my window over the sink was saying 120 late this afternoon, but the sun hit it for a few minutes. I went out to put fresh water in the big clam shell that sits on the ground (concrete), all the birds love it but today a bright Baltimore Oriole started prancing around the rim, jumped in & came out muddy looking! Made me feel so bad, poor bird. One after another cleans up in it, we never put it up on a pedestal so the ducks used it those years. The robins use because Mama makes a new nest with ever batch (Missy always had 3 per summer). She flies off to the river & brings back mud in her bill & she mushes it into the twigs of the nest (and we always put out colored Easter grass for Missy), so she climbs into the nest & rubs her breast against the mud to pack it in and after she is done for the day, she comes to clean up. I guess the other birds do the same, but this clam shell does get a lot of dirt in the bottom with all those girls cleaning up!

I'm heading to bed, a last swig of water & check to make sure cats are happy where they are. Well, Tom came in to see if anyone left anything in their bowl... someone did. He'd cleaning it up. Callie is still laying by the pool & Tiger sitting on a chair near me. Okay, Tom used the litter box & went back out for the night. Sweet dreams to all, God Bless and see y'all in the morning!  Shirley

Good morning.

Bright cool morning ,temp is 46° at the moment and no humidity! Woke to the cry of the loon, we were told they have not one but TWO babies this year.

Yesterday went well, but we didn't score on the strawberries. There will be lots in a few days so will drop in again and get two flats.

Today, we are taking a gift over to SIL for her birthday ,then home to work about. There are some weeds growing in the back garden that need to be pulled .Lots to do without going looking for work here.

Jane, I love raspberries and would saddle my horse and go picking the wild ones. I would leave Echo at one end and go pick only to find out she had picked raspberries within her reach!

Gloria, we can pickle wild leeks so I don't see why one couldn't pickle garlic. I may try to dry some also. I don't see why you couldn't freeze it like you do your onions .

Better get ready ..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Some of us around here are up and attem and some of us (Cooper) joined us for breakfast and then rejoined his mother in bed.  She brought some stuff for breakfast but I can't wait for her.  Her breakfast is closer to my lunch time.

I have to make a quick WM run this morning.  I need 2 items and I know exactly where they are in the store and it shouldn't take me too long to get them.  Then I'm starting the new relish to can.  Report later!

Good to see everyone around...except you Rammel!  Where are you?

I'm off to get my day started.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Patricia, we are having your burgers tonight for supper...just have to pick up buns.

It's a bright sunny morning and the humidity is down....thank goodness for that!  It's been really oppressive for the last several days.  Our Red Shouldered Hawk, that lives in the woods back of our house, is being even more noisy than usual this morning.  Such a beautiful bird and I love to see him/her glide over the yard so often.  I can see where the nest is but the trees are too thick to actually see the nest.

Not much to talk about here but thought I should let you know I'm still around.

Thank you, Jane, but those odds and ends you mentioned yesterday, never stay finished! Cooper sure has his doggy priorities right!

My mother and sisters used to pickle garlic, and I was too busy then and never learned, but I know vinegar was part of the process. You can freeze garlic just as you freeze onions, peeled and chopped beforehand.

We have strawberries and raspberries everywhere here, but the wild ones are one-third sized of the manufactured commercial ones. Many people prefer purchasing the commercial ones because it's simpler but not as tasty. There are in-season blueberries, rosehips, and others too. We have low lands along the river that are full of berries and others in season.

Our weather remains the same, slowly inching up in both the morning lows and evening highs of the mid-eighties. Our heat isn't wet as in the south but drier, so it's more comfortable.

Anchorage on Alaska Gulf and the rest of the southeast expect strong winds, rain, and storms today coming up from Washington and Oregon. We might end up with some of that if it makes its way over the Alaska Range.

There is a little puddle out in the middle of Kansas.... that's Shirley. Says we are at 100°, hot wind blowing & nary a critter stirring. Don't know where any of the cats are, had to go to my bone scan this morning & they were all outside. I would invite them in but would have to open the door, like an oven out there. Give me winter ANY time! I have more laundry to do but will wait until after dark to help with the power problems I'm sure will develop. Goodness, this is awful and just the start of summer!

Okay, everybody check in!!! Like I used to tell my kids, "call and let me know if you are going to be late so I don't WASTE my worrying!"

Okay, I went back 4 pages to find the recipe for those burgers.... and never found the link I thought I remembered seeing. HELP! I'm always interested in new versions of hamburgers... and think bacon bits in anything is good. Please and Thank You for the link....

Went to Sam's after my bone scan this morning, they are still showing ONLY the pre-packaged hamburger, not the packages they grind themselves. My cats will walk away from that, and they love raw meat! What Walmart sells is also pre-packaged and cats won't eat that. I bought more eye of the round roasts so will cut that up for them. Since one butcher told me they "grind all the steaks & roasts out of date, for hamburger"... what will they do with that meat now?  I also bought them a rotisserie chicken, and served all 3 a bigger than usual portion. I'm sure this heat is hard on them, even though they prefer being out over inside AC.

Now, Amy, I'm ready to move north if you'll keep those temps for a while.

Patricia, I just heard weather news about the SW being so hot... thanks for warning to stay inside!  I was seriously wanting to drive to MO to visit my sister (her husband just died) but no desire to be on the highway with those conditions. Can you imagine having a tire blow out or car/RV leaving one stranded in that/this heat?  I'm already worrying about my sons driving back from CO this week end. One trip to MO when I was taking some wisteria to Bunnie, I couldn't drive a car length (was in the Rialta) without a shredded tire to avoid. The concrete was so hot the tires were everywhere. It really was a nightmare trip but I didn't mention it because I didn't want Bunnie to feel bad.

I'd better get me something to eat. I did lay down for a little while after I got home, but the phone woke me up. I've been getting phone calls lately (different numbers) but they hang up. It just now crossed my mind that this was one of the things the police told us the gangs do when checking out a neighborhood to rob. This way they know which houses have someone to watch for various times of day. Hummmmmmm...

Shirley, in the "What's for Dinner, recipe site it's post #414. The recipe is put out by the makers of McCormick Spices, but I don't use that brand. I buy my spices online and grind them myself. Hamburger nowadays is a little fresh mixed in with a lot of older meat.

I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet that I'm not happy about as it's restrictive. It's not the ones you see online trying to cash in on a new trend, but one my allergist and nutritionist have used for years. It is fish, white meat, and plant-based but coffee isn't restricted. Green tea is fine but black tea isn't due to caffeine. I don't use hamburgers in my burgers but if you can find it, caribou, Dall sheep or bear are good.

My other favorite is post 410.  https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=199307

Day is done,
Gone the Sun....

I think it's time for me to head for the haystack.  The slamshuts have taken over my eyes and the tireds have invaded my body.

I made the Jalapeno Pineapple Relish and canned it today and it's really gooooood!  I have a jar's worth that didn't fit in the canner so I guess I'll have to eat it.  It says at the end of the recipe that it's really good with pork chops.  Maybe I'll make some tomorrow and try that.  Or maybe I'll just have it on a hotdog.  We'll see how the day goes.

AMY, I don't have a problem with lids right now.  On our last trip to the Amish store, they had lids in both sizes.  I bought a pack of thirty of each and it turned out that Cathy saw them too and she got me a box of each for my birthday.  I've had her looking for them at WM every time she shops and they are always out of them.  Amazon had them but they were twice as much as any of the grocery stores and I just couldn't bring myself to buy them.

PATRICIA, I don't think I've ever seen Caribou, Dall Sheep or Bear meat in the stores around here.  But now I want some!  I love venison and my one SIL is a hunter.  He goes in two different states and he always gets a deer.  And I get a cooler full for Christmas.  I love it.  Back in the old days, my husband used to go to Wyoming to hunt Mule Deer and Antelope and I like both of those, too.

PHYLLIS and RAMMEL, It's good to "see" you dropping by.  Come on back soon!

My grandniece, Bethany is doggy sitting at my daughter's house and tonight she and the dog stopped by for a visit.  It was nice to see them and we had a nice chat.  She's a junior in college and she's a bit of a talker.  I learned a lot.  Sunday Bethany, Frankie and I are going to lunch at THE FENCE!  I hope it's a nice day because it's outside and right by the river.  And they have good food.

Now I'm going to go find the haystack and the zzzzs and conk out for the night.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, everyone!

SHIRLEY, I forgot to say Central PA was gorgeous today.  the low was 64 overnight and the high was 74 today!  This is my kind of a summer day!

Jane, you can't find them in the stores here either. You have to either have a hunting license or know someone who will give you the game free. You would have to substitute local game such as venison.

Good morning.

Another cool morning with temps at 36° and sunny. Will go and uncover all the plants once the dew is off.

We have a phone tech coming today and they are very explicit on the time.... between 8 am and 4 pm. So, it will be a wait and see day..

My friend had to say good bye to their dog yesterday, a sad day in their house for a while. He was a therapy dog ,nothing frazzled him a very sweet dog. He would go into the nursing home and folks just loved petting, hugging and just being with him.

Jane, no shortage here on lids but once they hit the shelf they are gone. Jars seem to be plentiful so far this year. If you get a chance try moose meat, it too is delicious!

Patricia, I hate hearing about fires. They go where they want and destroy so much in doing so.

Shirley, I was lucky enough to get lean ground hamburg for 2.99  most of the times it is 3.69 and higher!

Best get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

That's the same way I make my hamburgers, Patricia, and a little heavy on the Garlic Salt.  We like it here in our house.  If you like Worcestershire Sauce, poke a couple of small holes in the burger while cooking and pour over a few drops of W. sauce.  I use approx. 1/2 tsp.,  I guess.  Gives a little extra kick to the burger.

Amy, ground chuck here is $7.07/lb (US dollar) or higher.  The price seems to go up every week.

Good morning everyone, nice and cool and low humidity. Will be a good day to go out for a walk.
This PC will drive me crazy if it keeps up. Every day it does an update and every thing on the PC changes again. T his morning things look like they did before this trouble began. I would t ry talking everyone out of buying an HP. I am beginning to dislike new changes very much.

PATRICIA  this is my second HP but the other one was great. ith al the graphic work with PSP I had a full hard drive so needed a new one. I think they sent me onw built on a Monday when no one was happy to get back to wor k. I have no t coked a burger in ages, cannot stand to cook anything anymore. Odd I can walk with my rollator but cannot stand. Maybe from all the years I worked standing all day on cement floors.

JANE  we are supposed to get to the mid 70's today. I can take that all year. Where my daught er lives now in Arizona it is in the low 100's and they are cooler up on the mountain than it is in Kingman.

SHIRLEY  there  is a bird bath on a pedastal in front of the porch and we used to see the birds stopping for a drink or a bath. This year the witch did not want water put into it and we have not had enough rain to fill it up either.

AMY  never thought about chopping garlic and freezing it like the onions. I sure have thrown away more garlick over the years than I used.

PHYLLIS  good seeing you. I was AOL quite a lot lately with this dumb HP excuse for a computer.

RAMMEL  I have to kee back spacing to bring the letter in a word together. At times I think I miss some so words are broken up. Darn keyboard and it is plugged in.

JACKIE  add me to the list of having computer problems.

AMY  there is only one store I will get hamburg from, an indpendant one, not a big chain market-they gring their  own meat and do it where the customers cans see it. More expensive but the quality is worth it.

Time to get my breakfast so TaTa for today.
Have a great day and be safe and cool.

I'm up and attem.  Cooper arrived at about 6:30 this morning because Frankie had to be to work at 7.  Mickie had a bad night.  She got me up about a half hour after I got in and she really NEEDED to go out.  Then she got me up for the day around 5:30 and she really had to go out then.  I took them both for a walk after breakfast and I was no longer back from Cooper's walk and Mickie needed out again.  It's gonna be one of those days!

AMY, I can understand your phone tech being so "explicit" about the time of his arrival.  Our water supply company notified all the customers that they would be flushing the pipes in the area and we would notice that the water was brown coming from the faucets.  They indicated that they would be beginning on June 13 and ending on June 25.  When I called to see if they knew when they would be in my area, they didn't!  So for 2 weeks, we have to be careful what we're drinking, using for cooking, washing dishes, taking a shower, doing laundry, filling the dogs water dishes, brushing my teeth.....and whatever needs water!

I guess I better get back to work.  I have a list and I'm not making good progress!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow

Today is another of my kind of summer day.....in the high 50s over night and the mid 70s during the day!

Good morning from a damp, smoky Interior with two more lightning strikes caused fires. The perils of living in a boreal forest with what some call a fire ecology.

The Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service is increasing its response to two lightning-caused fires that started near Manly Hot Springs Monday evening. The Dry Creek and Zitziana River fires remain very active and are burning through tundra, black spruce (Black Spruce has much sap and goes up like wax candles.), and hardwood trees. Together, the two have burned roughly 3,000 acres. Wednesday's thundershower brought on two more fires in the same afflicted area, south of us on the Tanana River. They're hoping that today's steady rain will affect as long as there is no lightning.

I'm stiff this morning either from all I did yesterday or from the weather change, but that will settle down. I'm coming up to the down stretch, (if that makes any sense?), of all I've wanted to do since January. After that's done, the only remaining task will be implementing a new folder system in my files and folders.

Hi Gloria!, I know I have issues with all those years and cement floors. I don't think I sat down for more than the bus rides. Even my lunches were interrupted by some staff/customer dispute!

Jane, I can certainly understand your frustration. Last year they put in a new boiler and turned off the water for a Tuesday and then the following Thursday to work on the water system, to the point of going through the walls on some floors.

Phyllis, Worcester sauce sounds good, and I just purchased a bottle, so I'll try it.

Amy, I forgot I have moose as well. Since I've started with the summer garden allotments, they deliver twice monthly, and with the meat from friends, I do not need grocery stores.

I have yet to make Farrah's annual appointment. During the early pandemic, the way they used would have involved four taxis, and with the taxi companies' erratic scheduling, not viable. Since the dental tech comes up from Anchorage and with Farrah now having suspected periodontal disease, I need to get that done.

It seems our pets are in the same position we are!

KEYBOARD PROBLEM --- I use a wireless keyboard that came with my HP Computer. It has been quite a while now so I just changed the batteries. That helped. But I discovered that a metal flashlight that I keep at the computer desk happened to be right between the keyboard and the computer box. I moved it to another spot and my problem just went away.   :nanadance: The flashlight must have been reflecting some of the signal from the keyboard and causing the unwanted results.
I have found the same thing happens with the TV when a walker is between the remote control and the TV.

Rammel, you had keyboard problem, I have a recently occurring mouse prblem. It is a wired mouse, no batteries. When I am playing solitaire, and try to move a card/cards, it seems to flicker and I have to go back and do it twice.  Any ideas?

If it is an old "Ball Mouse" you need to undo the bottom and clean the ball and thin rollers. They tend to get "gunky" and stick.
If it's one with red light coming from it I'm not sure what to do, but make sure the bottom (underside) is clean and clear. You might try unplugging it from the computer and then re-inserting it

Time to wish you all "Good Night"

I left a message after the "hamburger bowl recipe"

I'm so tired I could crawl into bed in my clothes.  I sure hope Mickie doesn't have to get up in the middle of the night tonight.  I'm heading for the haystack!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Another gorgeous day in Central PA.  The sun shone and the temp never got above 76.  My kind of summer!

Oh, that sounds delicious, Patricia. I only ate some cheese & Ritz crackers tonight. For lunch I pulled one of my "ZipLoc" tubs out of the freezer, had the "other side" of a rib eye steak & gravy so baked a potato in the microwave & lumped it all together, bread & butter & that was it. I planned to eat my veggies tonight, have some of the frozen BirdsEye that cook in the bag, can't think of the latest catch phrase they call the veggies that are NEW... haha & what my mother cooked all the time. I think I'm too tired tonight to even chew.

Cut off some of the tree branches hanging low, so the mowers don't get knocked off their speeding mowers. They sail around so fast I hardly get a chance to wave at them, but they are slowed down when I go out with money! Thanks for the link. I had planned to check the Sam's Club at the other end of the city to see if they still grind their hamburger, but didn't get around today.

The people next door are having a pool put in, had to take out a big tree to make room. Lots of equipment still parked on the street so will have to ask them to move some so I can get the elephant out of the driveway to get that 4th tire put on the back. Crazy me, don't know why I let them convince me that one tire was still okay when it doesn't match the other 3 for even how many pounds pressure to put in.

I wasn't thinking, had been trapped in Dodge City trying to get someone to put the spare on for hours. Really upset that my auto club call center is in Mexico.... and one call was all they would answer & that service didn't show up. Nightmare, and I'm going to renew again because others don't service RVs.  Will be the last time/year, I'm pretty sure. The 2 front tires were put on last year so have made 2 trips to CO & I had the RV aligned, etc. when I put them on. It's been fun for 7 years but I'm not up to all the problems any RV creates.

If the place that has been doing work on it actually can get the E150 Ford used for those van conversions we had years ago, I'll get one & get rid of my car & RV. I'd like just one vehicle that will fit in the garage! The sun ages any of them too fast. So, that's the plan.... and you know what happens to plans!

Joanne, I play solitaire on a very old Kindle Fire.... have to use a stylis because my fingers do not work on the phone or iPad without stylis.  I'm wired wrong.  :o  I do have the same game on this laptop but use a mouse that plugs into the computer. Got tired of replacing batteries when busy. I haven't had a regular computer since buying the first laptop.

And now I'm heading to bed. Hate this 100° weather & no sign of let up... terrible thought that this could go on for several MONTHS! It has even been hot out in the mountains so glad I didn't go this year. Since only commercial places have power & I'd rather stay home than be in a commercial campground & hear the neighbor snoring. At least the Corp of Engineer campgrounds in MO are far enough apart and enough shade summer is tolerable. I've only been in the mountains one time that it was so miserable hot we went from one tree to another for a bit of shade. No AC in those campgrounds, even though we could turn on the generator to cool, I hate that noise.

So shut up Shirley, and quit griping! Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Thinking of you, Jenny and a prayer in my heart for all of you.

Jane, your high was about the same as our LOW. Do hope Mickie is okay. Any idea what her problem was?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I hope you all slept well and are ready for the new day!

SHIRLEY, Mickie has done this on occasion before and I always put it down to something she picked up off the ground to eat.  But this lasting longer and she doesn't kick it soon, I'm calling the vet.

Frankie and I had a good supper last night.  I did two pork chops, some of my canned potatoes (thanks to AMY) done in the Air Fryer and frozen peas.  There wasn't much left.

I have my bed clothes in the washer and I think I made it before 7 just in case the water guys get to flushing my lines today and the water turns brown.

It's time to get breakfast for the doggies....me too!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jane, I'm with you worrying about a fur baby's upset tummy system. Hope you get it settled before your summer heat makes it worse. Our low was 76° right now so I have the slider next to this computer open and not much difference from inside to out. The house stays pretty cool with the dark tinted windows & I've been doing laundry early morn or late night to avoid peak power usage. Sure would hate to have the rolling OFF with these 100° temps. Have I mentioned I hate summer???

Cats have had their breakfast salmon. I have to crush the little round bones or they will lick around them & leave in their bowls. I figure they have some "food" value to them so take time to mash before serving. Callie wanted hers in the garage, she just sits & won't move to come in. She will sleep again until mid morning & think the bugs don't bother her in the garage. She doesn't like the AC and that's where I draw the line, I'm not about to turn it off to please a cat! Tiger slept in my bed all night but Tom still prefers sleeping outside but waiting by the door for breakfast.

Did we actually beat Amy up this morning?  I'd better get a move on, I hear the guy next door hammering. He's building a new chicken coop, the other was so cute I hate to see them take it down. Same couple putting in the pool. Really nice kids, about same ages as my kids. Her parents bought the house across the street & are totally remodeling, think would have been easier to take the one down & start from scratch. They are a few years younger than I am, had "downsized" and think he was going stir crazy not having something to work on. He does a lot of the work himself & seems to have plenty of good workers when needed.

Sat here long enough so time to feed me. Need to do some ironing before heading to get that tire replaced. Haven't started the RV for weeks, think it has new batteries as well as new tires except for that one. I've replaced so many batteries & tires in that thing I can't keep track, time it earns it's keep & takes me on a trip, don't you think?

Good morning...
No , Shirley I was up and running to the grocery store this morning for 7 am opening. Much easier to shop in and out in jig time.  Groceries all put away and now to bake some pies after I help Kyle for a minute.
Patricia, thank you for the rain. A gentle rain is falling and I do hope it keeps up all day and night.

Jane, hope Mickie is feeling better today..

Best see what mischief I can get into  :)

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning everyone. Looks like today and  tonight will be  the last of beautiful weather for awhile. The heat and humidity will be coming back tomorrow. It has been quiet in here the last few days wi th no AC running and not even a fan.

JANE  I am with you, if summer was these  temperatures all the  time wi th rain a t night I might like i t be tter than spring and autumn.

PATRICIA  in the very dry southwest a strong wind can start a fire with dry twigs rubbing together. At least that is what I have read. In this psr tohe country we get brush fires and most times they are put out fast. I think my only job sitting down was at 16 working in a jewelry company.

RAMMEL  glad you solved your keyboard problem. I have nothing metal on the desk or near the keyboard. Most of my problems are with this lemon of an HP. Will never buy another one from that company.

TOMEREADER1  My mouse was giving me a hrd time, had to realy hit it hard to make it work. When my grandson was here working on my PC he got frustated with it and went out and bought me a new one, works great.

SHIRLEY  like you my daughter is living with 100+ temperatures. Their low for the night for me would be a pretty good high temp. Anything above 80 is too hot for me. Guess that is why like you I rather have winter.

JANE  I am so tempted to buy an air fryer but do not really have counter space for it. Do you ever see the commercial with Emeril Lagasse and his all in one thingy? It even dehydrates food. I wonder if it as good as he claims. Again not room for anything more. Of course I could get rid of the toaster oven.

AMY  just think of how happy those in the southwest would be to have a nice steady rain soaking into the earth for a few days wou ld love it.

Be tter get a move on and have breakfas t and get dressed for the day.

Have a good day, keep cool if possible.

Good morning from a sunny, cloudless, 76° Interior! After having one fire, yesterday saw an increase to nine and fifty-two state-wide. It also had sunny, smoky, windy skies, T-storms, and back to sunny again. I guess after a rainy spring, it's gotten past the last four rainy summers. For a forested state, these fires are a sign of summer and an income generator for the village hotspot crews.

Shirley, you had a hectic day yesterday. I see we're sharing our lows today! Another busy day for you and for me, one of finishing odds and ends of jobs I worked on all week.

Farrah gets 2.5 ounces of grain-free wet food in the morning but has a senior cat's dry food and fresh water daily. She has gotten bossy! In the morning, she will jump on the bed, buts my face, & when she knows I'm up, she'll run to her food dish, then tails me as if she's never been fed and doesn't have remaining dry food in her dish!

My neighbor likes to sit close to our shared wall and play his guitar and sing falsetto. This is whenever the mood strikes him. Unfortunately, it's the only place my couch, and therefore the computer goes. So, in self-defense, I purchased a small white noise machine I can place on top of the couch. Otherwise, with the lockdown going on its fifteenth month, it's fairly quiet.

Jane, your pork chops sound good to me. I might try that tonight; I love grinding green peppercorns and kosher salt on both sides with a little olive oil before roasting. Either that or a small dab of the Habernaro, pineapple, mango cooking blend wet spice I picked up on a whim on the fourth. No, I have no idea what it tastes like but it sounded good!

I miss my ethnic groceries; I guess they can't open because they're small? I don't know the reasons, but I miss shopping there. The big chains don't appeal to me, and they don't seem to know their local customers either. They're all very corporate. And I don't mean that in a good way. But, after June 21st, solstice, the various farmers' markets will be open. Yay!

Jane, Farrah's eating issues last year turned out to be beginning periodontal disease, and she needs another yearly appointment. Has the vet checked for that? It's widespread in older cats and dogs, per my vet.

Amy, I'd gladly send you more, but I guess now we need it too. Bummer, as we said back when we were kids. Enjoy your busy day!

Gloria, you could also share my rain with Amy, it's not something I want, but evidently, we need more of it.  🙄  Unfortunately, there aren't many ACs here, if at all, as we're either cold or have a hot, dry heat. topping out in the nineties. We used to see dry summer temperatures of 104° to 108°, but that passed many years ago!

The only sitting job I ever had was managing a small boutique hotel. Even when I was assigned a desk at various retail departments, I rarely had a chance to use it. But, of course, I welcomed the two bus rides at either end of my shifts.

I donated my microwave and kept the multipurpose toaster oven. Microwaved food tasted off to me. Now I have lots of cast-iron cookware and a big anodized wok. I've even stopped using my toaster oven for more than toast. With my limited counter space, that may be the next to go.

Anytime I'm tempted to buy something, I search for independent, not sponsored reviews. For example, Rubbermaid sold their plastic bins on Amazon for an excellent price, and I needed a couple. However, looking at the reviews, they were generally negative of both quality, showing pictures and company responses. So I decided to pay more and buy local.

Hi Tomereader, I have a mouse with the red light, and mine seems to have a five-year run before buying new.

So, there's my book for today...

This mouse is probably ready to draw Social Security!  Lots more than 5 years old.
I have a wireless mouse somewhere around here, that's hardly been used, so I may search for it, and switch out.

As I was reading through the messages earlier this week, from this group, when Cas died 7/2/2013, I realized how much you all helped "keep me sane" with so much to do. So, Jenny, please share our sympathy and tears with Michele's little ones to show her how much all of us cared for her and them. Can't ever have too much love at a time like this, no matter what the ages.

Give Dave a big hug and tell him that MY mother used to say that "it sometimes is good for children to see their parents cry", so love and hug those precious children, and admit how much it hurts that she is gone. When the kids are older they will remember what a devoted husband he was all through the years, but especially during this long illness, knowing that he did understand each painful step.

I am sure, like the whole world, this past year has been unbearably difficult with the virus restrictions as well as what your family faced every day. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you, that you can find peace in the coming days knowing that Michele is no long in pain and her spirit floats effortlessly around you, free to watch over her babies as they grow up.

I always felt my mother had a special insight to our feelings because her mother died when she was 7 years old. I will pray that Michele's children can find and hold that special caring that comes from such a heartbreak as losing a mother so young.  Sincerely, a friend in Kansas.

Good morning...

A lovely sunny morning here temp is at 57° for the moment.

Laundry will dry in no time on the line today. Yesterday we had rain, gentle at times and then through the night I heard it . Lawn will have a reprieve and grass cutting will begin again.

Talked with a friend  to find out they are going to sell their home. He had part of his leg removed and is on dialyses three time a week . The drive from here to the city is long and tiring plus she can't look after him anymore.

Gloria, I wish everyone had that rain  yesterday, I saw on the news last night the forest fire that are raging and firemen preparing for fires in their areas.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're up and (sort of) attem.  I have some stuff planned for today but it's iffy that I'll even feel like doing it.  I think Mickie is feeling a bit better.  We didn't have any urgent calls all evening and only one during the night.

We also had rain overnight and it's 66º right now heading for a high of high of 88.  with more rain predicted for early evening into the night.  The grass is holding out it's tongue for the moisture and lapping it up!

I don't know if Cooper will be coming today.  Frankie has a short day and she said that if she's running late, he'll be ok by himself!  We'll see!

I think a quick run to Davy's might be in order today.  I don't need much but a couple items are hollering for increases.

I had a bag of shrimp in the freezer and last yesterday I ran across a pretty good recipe for baking it.  Turned out great and there's enough left for a meal today.

I hope you all have a good day today...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Thanks for the update, Don, been worried about Bubble. Like you, so many good memories and know they can't happen again. Best to take each day and make it the best of what is offered, right?
No energy left here, either, but happy to have reached 86 and still around. Hard to get used to believing we really are getting old, isn't it? :-\

Got up early to clean the pool before it got too hot. Pow... heard that pop & lights went out while I was dressing in a "windowless" bathroom. It was DARK! Went into camping mode & got out the flashlights that are no longer flashlight but push button solar rechargables, fed cats & myself. Actually a pretty good breakfast since I have gas cook stove. Usually have hard boiled eggs ready for anything that comes up, peeled one, cut a couple thick slices of Italian bread I got at the store yesterday... a chunk of real butter in a skillet toasted the bread, spoon full of grape jam, put a pan of water on for instant Folgers & even had a big container of watermelon I cut up yesterday. Best watermelon I've had in years.

Power was off a little over 2 hours so too hot to work outside on the pool now. Mixed up some pimento cheese to slather on that Italian bread... glass of iced tea and I think I'll take a nap to sleep away this HOT day! Weather guesser says we have a cool day on Monday so anything & everything can wait for Monday!

Oh, Jane & Amy (anybody else interested) I have 2 tomatoes turning, they are small but will pick by tonight in case the bugs move in. Had to toss one tomato that was icky on bottom, not sure why. Lots of teeny tiny bugs, do y'all have advice what to use? One tomato is the Early Girl so expected them to be small, but other is Beef Steak & I wanted plate size from it!!!

My sons are driving back to Kansas today, I was hoping for cloud cover for them but radar not showing a single shower between central CO and central KS. I worry about tires too hot on those highways and breakdowns that leave people sweltering in the sun. I wish they were traveling together but they have their own pace (one pulling a camper).

Thoughts with you and all the family, Jenny, and prayers that everyone is prepared for this changing life.

You slipped in, Patricia. When we have this horrible heat I always picture me being in Alaska where it is nice and cool & even cooler at night. Did you ever get the feeling I envy you that spot of the world?

Shirley, not sure what the bugs are but you may have blossom end rot. Save your eggs shells ,crunch them up and put them around the base of your tomato plants. This was my problem last year so all winter long I save my shells to put around the plants. They are also good to keep slugs away from your hostas too.

Hum, Amy, my mother used to always save the egg shells, kept them drying on a cabinet top. I will give it a try starting in the morning.

Forgot about those fires, Patricia. Know it is a problem everywhere when got & dry but for some reason Alaska didn't fit the image in my head!  :o

The boys are about halfway home and keeping track of each other. A relief to think they are close enough they could help if either needed. I'm a mother, get paid to worry!!!!

Starting off at 52° this  sunny morning. A day of rest here, just meeting with friends to swap parcels and that is it.
Yesterday saw a lot of weeds find a new home in the compost bin. Still have a bit more to do then I can move onto brushing out the lilacs.

Hope we soon hear from Joy  and Lloyd.......he is also missing.

Phyliss, last nights supper was spaghetti in the instant pot.........10 min and it is done no boiling water!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been avoiding my computer because it's been acting crazy and also because I might have to have it serviced.  I have a paper to fill out and send in and I'm trying to get that finished before I service the computer because it's due 6/30.  I'm frustrated!

If I disappear in the near future, don't worry!  I'll be back when the computer decides to behave!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Haha, Jane, I've been avoiding my computer because I am acting crazy! Seriously, we've had some updates with the computer & some pending for iPad and phone (those 2 have to have permission to update)... don't like changes but the computer has made some I am not at all happy about.

Been to church but didn't go to McDonald's after because I needed to get back & take care of the pool before it gets too hot. Need to vac, running the pump all the time drops the dirt from the water to the bottom & must clean it up & add more water since the hot wind has sucked a couple inches out this week. Nothing new except a possibility of T-storms later this afternoon. We are due, it's wheat harvest time & always a gamble if storms will flatten the wheat before the crews come through cutting their way north. After 50+ years in Kansas I kinda think like a wheat farmer.

Wishing all a Super Sunday/Happy Father's Day!

For me I feel grateful that you shared with us the spirit of her battle, every time she went for another painful procedure that didn't work, my heart was heavy. My prayer is that your family can grieve in peace and find joy with all she brought to this world. God Bless...

Jenny, I agree with Shirley, now is the time to concentrate on family and upholding those in need.

The weather here is sunny again, with some clouds here and there with prophesized rain returning tomorrow. Nothing here except finalizing multiple house projects finishing hopefully by Tuesday.

What a day!

FIRST...JENNY, it was no chore praying for Michele.  It was my pleasure to include her!  Now my prayer is that God will include her in His family!  She certainly deserves it.  My other prayer is that you will cherish her memory and move on with your lives!

Today was dilly-doo!  I spent a big part of it with 3 young ladies who are 1/4 my age and they expected me to keep up.  It was fun but I'm worn out!  Frankie was one of them and she had a friend her age visiting her.  The other was my grand niece, Bethany who is staying at Cathy's house and minding her doggie while they are on vacation.  Bethany's birthday is this week and we took her to The Fence outdoor restaurant to celebrate.  It was a beautiful day and it's right on the bank of the Susquehanna River.  Bethany loves it!  We had to go there whenever she and her sister Bridget came to visit me in the summer.

I came home and collapsed and now I'm going to "throw in the towel" and hit the hay.  I'm worn to a frazzle!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Too early to be up but the sound of rain was SO sweet I hit the floor & headed to the kitchen. I plan to get more zzzzs when the tummy is full. Anybody like poached eggs on crackers with a couple slabs of butter to flavor?  Was a fav when I was growing up, when my kids were growing up, their kids and now my great grands and I am enjoying again after not fixing them for myself for years. Somehow it doesn't sound good unless it happens you've tasted it before.

So this is life in central Kansas, and it's the first day shorter and heading toward cooler fall. Really? Yeah! Think about it. I'm sure the farmers are holding their breath that the rain won't damage or delay their bumper wheat crop. Heard one report it was "expected to break all records". Rain at this time is not good but it's here and I'm enjoying. :walkwhistle:

Good morning...

Overcast here with a promise of rain and thunderstorms which they may keep. Rain is welcomed but the storm part scares Babe , makes her shiver uncontrollably.

Since the weather is not nice for working outside we are heading to the cheese factory and the chocolate factory. Kyles supply is getting down on both so a road trip is on order.Supper is leftover Chinese food that we had yesterday for Father's day. This was the first time we have ordered from this restaurant and goodness they give you a lot  of food.

Shirley, we used to have hard boiled eggs in a mug with butter and crackers ,comfort food

Jane, I can imagine the laughter and giggles coming for you girls. Fun time out and you can collapse on the couch afterwards.

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning everyone, Happy Summer-if you like summer that is. Personally I wish it was the first day of autumn or better still WINTER. The humidity is back and it looks "soupy" outside already. Glad I do t live in Providence, 4 deaths yesterday. 2 stabbing and in another area of the city 2 shootings.

SHIRLEY  great, nice to know I am not the only one that Microsoft/Windows is messing with my computer. I was o‌e yesterday getting ready for Skype and my daughter when this darn machine cut me off to do another update. From being right it is now back to 2018. Nothing looks like I used to have it. So‭ns showing I never saw before. My oldes t son is trying to talk me into getting a Mac. If I could afford one I just might get one.

JENNY  we all prayed that Michele would beat what attacked her body. She sure put up a very heroic fight to beat it.

JANE  whenever I go anywhere any more I come home exhausted. Even going ou tside  to sit on  the porch with others I coack up here and have to lay down on the couch for awhile. Loo like those 90 years are showing up.

SHIRLEY  I like a poached egg on buttered  toast. Have not made that in a long time.

AMY  now you have my mouth watering for some good Chinese food. Been years since I had any. Kyle can enjoy he cheese fac tory but I would loe a visit to a chocolate factory, I wouold want at least 1 of everything.

Time I got  moving in here. I will be so happy when Yvette is back again.  The CNA I have been having leaves much to be desired.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And it is a GOOD morning in Central PA!  the temp is now at 70º and heading for a high of 88 today.  I can take that but the humidity is predicted to be 87% and I can't take that!  No rain is predicted for today but I think we got a little overnight.  When I went out to water the plants they actually had drops of moisture on the leaves.  And they didn't jump at the water like they usually do!

I have nothing planned for today but I have the stuff out to make a pie.  That's on the agenda.  I'll let you know if there's any in the Hidey Hole!

GLORIA, I think my age is creeping up on me, too!  I find myself unable to do something and it frustrates me all to heck until I remind myself that I'm not as young as I think I am!  Where have all the years gone?  And why did they take my energy with them?

After my time spent with the (much) younger generation yesterday, I fell asleep on the couch and slept through almost two episodes of Perry Mason.  I don't think I saw any of the TV at all except through my eyelids!

I do feel a bit better today but I'm not making any big plans.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

We were lucky again.  Colette, the tropical storm, went just a few miles south of us so we got just an all day, and most of the night, rain with little wind and no tornadoes.  We needed the rain so we aren't complaining.  The Outer Banks got a little bit more of a pounding but nothing too serious.  Unfortunately, the high humidity is back today so I'm staying close to the AC.

Take care, All.

Good morning from the Interior! I am both wind and sunburned, and my voice is hoarse from yesterday. After doing what I needed around the house, I was picked up by Dora, and off we went to the green next to their home. Three grills were going, four trestle tables set up, one for meat, one for vegetables and salads, and one for deserts. People were everywhere. It was glorious! We even had an enlarged photo of Bea so she could join us!

The green, a woodland meadow surrounded by trees; set between Alan, Dora, and their neighbors, have been written into a legal neighborhood agreement to be kept wild. There were dogs everywhere and even Homer, a pet goat who is a new addition to the group. Homer was very interested in the tables, so he ended up being penned, but before that, he was running with the dogs and coming up to everyone for determined attention. I had never seen a goat outside of a farm, but he lived up to their reputation!

Jenny:  I say a prayer for all your family every time we drive by your house.  --Today is nice and cool - enjoy while it lasts.

Amy"  Thank you for the update and good news about Bubble.  - I always think of my mother when you type in Bubble because "Bubbles" was my mother's nickname.  She was the youngest of 9 children and the one before her passed as an infant.  I thought that is such a sweet nick name for a baby.

Patricia:  We had a wonderful month in Sitka once - volunteering for a Lutheran church.  Everyone in the town knew us because all our information was printed in the newspaper.  It was so sweet - people waved us through when driving and came in to chat at the Lutheran church - Don worked on the historical graveyard. I cleaned and kept things up for visitors.

We had a great Father's Day meal with almost all the family - at a Cajun restaurant.  This is the first time "out" in many months.  So glad "the kids" insisted we "get out" for one of our favorite meals.

Phyllis:  Hooray for all on having the storm pass somewhere else.

Jane:  We live in high altitude and I know it is taking a lot of energy out of our days.  We live here because most of the family lives here - we are higher than Denver.  It seems to me that most are driving like it is a  road race with no patience- the attitude is be in first place and pass everyone.  The statistics show how dangerous it is out there.

Take care all,

The day has flown by ,weather was perfect for driving. Saw two bunnies which we rarely see and a coyote....not in the same area thank goodness.

The picnic cooler came home packed, cheese and chocolate filled to the brim. This should keep hubby happy for a while :) I managed to slip into a quilt store and came home with 2 moonlight Serenade quilt panels. One for my friend to enjoy ..

Patricia, that sounds like a grand time you had with your friends!! Love the fact that the dogs and a goat we also included in the outing. Two of our friends have had to say goodbye to their dogs...not an easy chore to do.

Carol, you're welcome. I also had a cousin with the nickname "Bubbles"

Time to put my feet up ..

Amy, we lost Bea, early on to the virus but didn't want her to be forgotten or to miss our big getting re-acquainted bash.  Her photo was blown up to 24X24 I believe and it sat at the head table. It was such a great time seeing everyone again even though we'd been texting or calling each other each morning.

I'm heading for the haystack.  My day changed suddenly when Frankie decided to spend the night here.  She called to say she was going to go home after work, take a shower and get a pork loin that we could share for supper if it was OK for her to spend the night.  We had the same dinner we had the last time she did this....roast pork loin, my canned potatoes with salt, pepper and a little onion powder done in the air fryer and fresh corn from the freezer.  I also made my pumpkin pie so we had dessert.

CAROL, I don't think I could take the altitude and I commend you both for doing it because it keep your family closer together.

AMY, cheese and chocolate straight from the factory sounds good to me!  And it sounds like you got enough to enjoy for a while!

I can't seem to keep my mouth shut right now a funny noise escapes while it's open.  So I think I'll sign off and hit the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning.
.
We have a beautiful morning here temp is 47° and sunny. The storm passed us just leaving a little rain but some is better than none.

Heading to the lumber yard to pick up material for the clothesline stand. Some of the boards are starting to weaken so a new deck top will replace it.

Jane, Kyle nibbles at the cheese and choco......takes a wee piece when he goes by the cupboard or fridge. Have fun today with Frankie!

Patricia, Bea will always be with you in your hearts and memories. Nice to get out and enjoy the company of others.

Gloria,a dark chocolate and a chocolate and caramel came home in the bag. Kyle is not fond of either one so I know where they will go!

Better get on with my day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, WORLD! Very comfy 63° this morning. I've been up for an hour & half, fed cats & me, got the front sprinklers running. Giving them about 45 min per zone so it goes deep enough. We are supposed to be back to near 100° by Thursday. Doesn't seem possible that the 4th of July is only a couple weeks away. Where did the year so and what happened to LAST year?

Gloria, I just remembered that I used to keep my computers on a setting that didn't allow updates unless I was there to handle.... only it was when my sons would show up to check for updates. Andy never liked anything on "Auto", and I didn't used to get into trouble that way. I think he got so busy he was alarmed how many updates I'd be behind. Might ask your computer buddy his opinion. If it only updated when HE was there to okay, might save you trouble until you get that new machine.

My good friend here (my age) got the Mac...  loves it & lack of problems except she has to call her DIL fairly often to have her fix or tell her how to fix since it's do different from normal computers. Macs are what my daughter & her whole family use and they are all business computer users. Daughter loves it that "everything talks to each other".  She can get mail, text & all on her watch, etc. Good luck with your decision, I'm afraid to try to learn anything new... big yellow stripe down my back!

I really could get a couple nice hours of sleep with that slider in my bedroom wide open, before it gets too hot. Good idea, huh?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We have a rainy day!  The prediction is for rain most of the day and I'm not complaining because the grass is slurping it up so loudly I can hear it with all the windows and doors closed!  It's been mostly dry this month!

AMY, Frankie had to be to work at 7:30 a.m. this morning so she's gone already but we had a "reminiscing" evening last night.  She is totally interested in "the way things were" when I was young and when she asks questions, it reawakens some good memories for me.

I forgot to mention that I had some surprise visitors yesterday.  My grandniece, Bethany is babysitting my daughter's doggie for two weeks and she's dropped in before but yesterday she had two other people with her when she dropped in.  Her parents, my niece Suzi and her husband, Pat were with her.  She had a surprise overnight visit from them because her 21st birthday is this week and they wanted to help her celebrate.  So they came up the night before and spent the day with her and a couple hours with me.  It was so nice! And so special!  I don't think I've seen them since the pandemic closedown.

PATRICIA, I forgot to say I loved your report of your gathering of friends...including the one who was with you all in your thoughts.  That was nice to include her.  It sounds like you all had a good time!

Now I better get started on my day!  I hope you all have a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  Shirley, go take a nap!  I take them whenever the mood strikes!

Good morning everyone, I think last night was the wor se  so far with the humidity. Even  with the fan blowing the cooler a ir from the AC into the bedroom it was still too warm for me. This lemon is back where it belongs  this morning. Talking to my daughter yesterday on the phone I mentioned how Shirley was having problems with her PC. She asked if she had Cox and said maybe it is Cox messing around. I would change carrier if I could but Cox has all the senior housing sewed up and we cannot change. Only other one here  is Verizon.

JANE  I know just how you feel, I know how it feels to realize how limited the things I can do make me feel. I used  to wake in the mornings and get up and get going right away.  Those days are long gone now. I feel everyone of those 90 years when I wake up now, very slow with every thing I do. How can you think of baking a pie in this hea t? Yesterday I sen t the CNA home almost an hour early so I could lay on the couch and sleep. I will be so glad to have Yvet te back. The one I have now has no sense of humor. I don't need a grouchy person here.

PHYLLIS  seems like a short time ago you said you were tired of all the rain you were getting. Sure does not take long to dry up in this heat. Glad Colette was gentle with you.

PATRICIA  when my 3 were quite young on a day of scattered showers we took them to a petting zoo and a goat was following my second son around trying to eat his raincoat. Luckily Bill was faster than the goat.

AMY  glad Bubble is starting to feel better. I know when I got home I felt weak for a couple of weeks and I sure thanked God for Yvette. She sure spoils me not wanting me to do anything but  I keep telling her if I don't move around I might as well be confined to a bed or a wheelchair.

CAROL  my daughet and SIL lived ing San Diego-he was born there-for more than 40 years and now they are living on the side of a mountain in Arizona and both love it. No traffic to speak of and 40 acres to roam around. Of course right now it has been in the low hundreds during the day and the low at night is too  for me during the day,

AMY  if I was to sneak into Kyle's chocolate stash do you think he wou ld miss what I took? Heard on  the news yes terday tha t lumber prices are starting to go down. No idea how much but maybe by one penny? OK I will  take  the chocolat e/caramel off his hands and I don't mind the dark chocolate-healthier-but prefer milk chocolate.

SHIRLEY  My grandson  told me once we do not need all  those updates but again some are for secutity of the machines. Tlaking to my daught er yesterday I told her you have Cox, too, and she said it is possible Cox if messing around. I cannot aford a Mac and don' t think I am up to learning anything new now. Rather stick what I started with am used to now. Tood to start over. I have an iPhone and go it in October and still don't understand much about it. If one is my family would  take  the  time  to explain i t more It would help.

JANE  we have scattered rain/thunderstorms in the forecast. The sky is overcas t with the humidity so hard to tall anything except  to know it is darn humid.

Think I will close and go get a shower before the CNA gets here.

Have a good day and  try to keep cool if possible.

Good morning from the sunny Interior where we're to be back into the eighties today. Next month I'll be seventy, but I'm already parceling out tasks before twelve. So those five morning hours are all I have to give these days. The afternoon is for putzing around.

I can't have chocolate or cheese in the house in any quantity, no real willpower for some foods.   :-[  Plus, I'm transitioning into an anti-inflammatory diet which I'm not that fond of. But, unfortunately, my body evidently loves it, so I have to make my peace with it.

I'm not fond of this laptop computer, or HP either still saving for a desktop.

We've been planning that party for a year, its premise filled many a text or phone call, and plans were completed in May. People were so happy to be together again, and I don't know if we could top it.

For all those wanting to relive the forties;

How to be Pretty - 1940's Guide for High School Girls

Ponds beauty consultant Mary Stuyvesant dishes out some home-spun advice to a group of high school girls on how to look prettier by simply following some basic rules.
Looking pretty, according to Miss Stuyvesant, is not just about dress code, clothes, hairstyle, or makeup. Though these are important to any girl.

You can see Mary's other detailed tutorials here on our channel via the links on the video. They deal in detail on the subjects of makeup like rouge, lipsticks, eye shadows, and the correct hairstyles for face shape.

The first part of this lecture, featured here, is about the basics. A good diet, a healthy sleep, and plenty of exercises.
"Makeup, hair, and clothes", says Mary, are just the trimmings, like the icing on the cake. But if the cake itself isn't good, you'll soon lose interest in the icing".

Sadly, Patricia, I never got around to reading ANY of that stuff!  My mother never failed to cream her face, take her rests with the cold washcloth on her forehead, exercised laying on the floor to hold onto the "settee" feet to do her leg overs and then sit up & bounce on her rear to make sure her "bootie" didn't look like she had 5 kids. My sister has always taken care of herself as well, but I was too busy having fun. My sister doesn't look like 90, she did inherit Mother's skin & I got Dad's and his mother's with all their wrinkles & dry skin. My mother used Lady Esther face cream until she couldn't find it anymore. She didn't get sun tans but her younger twin sisters were tomboys. I didn't work on suntans, me & the sun never got along. You stirred up memories, Patricia.

Been down to the river with the "trimmings" from 2 eye of round roasts. Since the cats won't eat the packaged hamburger & love fresh meat, will be having to do this for now. 2nd time this week I brought up the tenderizer to run the minute steaks through (it's a real pain to clean up) so should be set for at least a week or so for myself & cats. I fill in with chicken & my car is trained to go thru those "drive-thrus".....

I picked off half a dozen mini-tomatoes that were NOT supposed to be minis... even the beef steak plant's tomato I picked was about the size of a golf or ping-pong ball. Only one tomato was not rotten on bottom, had to throw the others in the berm in hopes some critter finds them & not too picky. I do have some egg shells drying on a paper towel so will put in a baggie to crunch up & put around the plants as Amy suggested. Think my talent as a farmer is lacking. On that thought, I'm going to eat the last of my "steak fingers" I fried while ago. I use the tenderized steaks & like it sounds, cut slices the size of my little finger. I use a tad of Crisco to get them browned (salt, pepper, garlic powder & Weber's Chicago Steak seasoning.) I keep pestering them, rolling over & over so browned on all sides & add water several times to make sure the browning soaks through the fingers. When about done/tender, I put in a pat or two of real butter & let that flavor soak in until the skillet is almost dry. They are done & it's great finger food! Also really good over a baked potato. Better (I think) than any of the beef jerky meats. In case you like fajitas, these work great in a wrap & I don't have to marinade.  So end of cooking lesson for today!  haha... as if anyone in here needs a cooking lesson!!!

Bedtime, it's been a long day & not much to show for it. Started off great & power out early stopped the pace. Made a trip to my fav store but they were closed today!  Bought a pair of pink jeans (Tommy Hilfinger) this week & didn't pay attention that they forgot to take the little "dinger" off the leg. This is that sore Helona & I talked about, prices start at 75% off the factory tags... and then they have sales!  I love to bargain shop, my husbane swore that my eyes glowed when I saw a "SALE" sign.  Well, he did & they probably do.  ::)

Good night, bedtime in Kansas.  God Bless and sweet dreams.  Hope Lloyd is getting settled in and will be talking to us soon.  Hugs, Bubble.... and anyone else that needs a hug.  Shirley

Oh, Gloria, forgot to tell you about my daughter & the Fitbit update. Big one & it totally messed up her tracker. She called to let them know & got hold of a young man that had only the pat answers & no real knowledge of how they are made or work. She said she was kind to him and wanted him to pass along the information she was taking time to inform him of. haha... she said she had him giggling before she hung up, but left him with "I do hope to hear back from you that Fitbit/Google has corrected this glitch in the update"...She buys the latest gadgets made and expects them to perform perfectly. She retired from a job so now takes on everything in her path!

I'm up and attem....well, I'm up!  I'm hoping the "attem" comes along when I need it!

I see I forgot to check out last night.  I was really tired and I went straight to bed after Mickie and I did an outie!  I guess my eyes had gone into slamshut and I missed the office door on my way down the hall.

Hey, AMY!  I see Gloria's hand in your chocolate bin!

It's time to feed Mickie her breakfast...me too, mine!  I wish you all a good day... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

I am loving this temperature43° outside but I know we will pay dearly once it moves on.

Working outside today ,trying to get everything caught up out there. Kyle finished the deck on the clothesline stand and we do have bits of lumber to take away when the burn ban is lifted.

Jane, Gloria must have been in the chocolate bin when I was hit with zzz's yesterday. Laid down for a "bit" and 2 hours later woke up!!!  She wasn't the only one in the bin cuz I also got into it last night..caramel chocolate found its way into my hands! Looking at the supply we didn't make a dint in it.

Shirley, pooches here are now eating some blade roast cut up in their food. They are not all that fussy on the canned dog food anymore.

Patricia, I will look at this later also. Back in the 40's a lady was just that a lady. Certain topics were taboo plus they didn't expose a lot of flesh. Not like today, where skirts are postage stamps and not a thought of what comes out of their mouth.

Lloyd, hope you get your computer fixed .I know your auction is coming up fast so you are likely busy getting ready with that.

Gloria, Kyle won't miss it one bit. Lots of chocolate to go round. Hope Yvette is soon well enough to come back to you.She is a God send to you and nice that she does spoil you.

Better get  going...

Enjoy your day  and stay safe.

Good moprning everyone, We had rain yesterday afternoon and I could hear thunder in the distance but it didn't get close to tis area. Glad I woke early this morning. Have to see my eye doctor later, my son will be taking me. Las t time I had an appointment with him was a year ago April when the covid had every thing canceled. I know I need new glasses. At times I have to get things close to read  and on here have to get the font size bigger all the time. Do you think I need new glasses? I sure know so.

PATRICIA oh that  hairstyle on the woman in the first link is a horror but that was the style back then. I am lucky, My Mom and Dad weren't  wrinkled and none of my siblings were either. Even with all the weight I lost my face is not very wrinkled for being 90. All comes down to good genes and keeping face and body clean. One  thing I do is get at least 7 hours sleep at night and even sleep the clock around at times. I do sleep great and some days have a 2 hour nap.

SHIRLEY  wish I could still cook like I used to instead of ea ting TV dinners most of the time. The Marie Callenders and Bos tom Market ones aren't bad, less preservatives than most of them but still not as good as home cooking. I just cannot stand long enough to cook anything. I sure miss Yvette, she likes to cook and I have taught her to cook some of the foods I like. Even taught her how to make scrambled eggs. I want to teach her how  to make piecrust. I cannot make it anymore and I do not  like  those ready made ones, not flaky at all.

JANE  I would love getting a sneaky hand into Kyle's cocolate stash. Who wants healthy food when there is chocolate around, not me for sure. T oday will be a be tter one,  tempera ture no higher than the low 80's amd where my daughter lines will not get to 90 for a change. Glad it will be bea rable when I go out today.

AMY  looks like we be tter ge tin to more of t ha t caramel chocoate. Since Kyle does not like caramel we would be doing a good thing for him by taking it away, right? Right now Yvetter will be getting ready to come home from the island off the Portugal coast. She will be here soon after and then she will see the surgeon to find out when she gets the first knee replacement.

I got a new CNA yesterday and I hope I get her  as a replacement when Yvette is out. This one has a sense of humor and not a grouch.

Have a good day everyone and enjoy the cooler day. Stay safe and healthy.

Good morning from the Interior, where our low today is 58° with a high expected in the mid-eighties. It's presently 5:20 AM. I went to bed and woke up early. So other than a shower and coffee, I'm not sure what's next.

I wasn't around in the forties, and my older sister was born in 1949, so a different era. Both parents looked young, so the three of us kids did as well. I took after my father in both skin tone and allergies. I had red hair and vampire skin.

The sun gave me headaches, without good sunglasses, and I would burn easily, peel, and be white again underneath. I envied my sisters with the baby oil and tanning lawn chairs at the time. But now, their skin is like leather, and my skin only wrinkles if I squint.

I'm heading for the haystack and stopped by to say "Good Night".  Since no one has been here since mid morning, maybe I should say, "Good afternoon, Good Evening and then GOOD NIGHT!"

I did my Davy's run this morning and On the way, I at the gas station for a fill up and then through the ATM for another "fillup"!  When I got home and put the stuff away and had lunch while the two "predators" watched every bite, then I took a short nap.  This afternoon, I did some laundry, hunted up some stuff I wanted to give Frankie, made supper and did a bit of cleaning.

The weather was gorgeous!  The sun was shining, there was a light breeze and the temp never got above 68. This is my kind of summer day!

I hear the zzzzzs calling my name and if the bedroom door was open, they'd be in here dragging me out of my chair.  My eyes are already in slamshut mode and my body says "hit the hay"  I think I'll listen to them.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Just a quick note to say that we are all doing as well as we can expect. I am still having a hard time believing that Michele has passed.  It will be a week tomorrow night and I still feel like this has not really happened.....

All of your special words are so kind and comforting💞 I thank  you very much.

JANE, no wonder you are tired...you had a very busy day.

GLORIA, I, too hope the other CNA will be as special as Yvette has been for you.

PATRICIA, I enjoyed looking at the info you shared regarding women's skin care over the years.  I was a Noxema user for years😘  Thank you for sharing!

CAROL, appreciate those prayers.

Pleasant dreams to all,

Jenny

Good morning..

Another beautiful morning here..there is talk of rain by the weekend. Not sure what the day will bring but do know there are jobs waiting on my. The back garden is looking good just one more row to weed and I can move on to the front and side gardens. May go on Monday to get 2 flats of strawberries to freeze.

Shirley and Jane no flowers on tomato plants yet and have visions of a beefsteak tomato still warm from the sun on toasted homemade bread.

Gloria, I hope you get the same CNA back ,would be nice if she came until Yvette was back to stay with you.

Jenny, Noxema was what my Mom would put on our sunburns..felt cold at first then stung a little. There is no way anyone can forget Michele's battle. One remarkable lady that will live on in the hearts of her family and us.

Time to shake a leg and get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morn‌g everyone 57 now at 7:30 am but going to the upper 70's later . Looks like the wondereful cool low humidity days are over again. Yesterday was a good day to get out. In about 2 weeks I will have new glasses. I knew I needed a change, was getting hard to read again. When my son got me home I sat on the porch for awhile and then came uo here and had a nap. Woke in time to get on Skype with Arizona.

JANE  like you I thought the last few days were perfect summer days. Last night I was asleep by 8:30 and slept good all night. I do get very tired every time I have to go any place. Other than picking up new glasses next appointments are on the 13th and 15th  of July. One doctor and the other dentist. Should have made them a week apart. I already know I will be worn out going out 2 days so close.

JENNY  I will have a different CNA today, she was here Tuesday and I liked her. Another one with a sense of humor. She also looked clean. That last one was OK the first day she was here and then just wanted to sit. I think Yvette will be back nex t week.

AMY  oh a  tomato still warm from the sunshine, picked and eaten right away, no salt on it  either. I do love  fresh picked  tomatoes. I the season I could live on tomato and lettuce sandwiches with mayo on the bread. Adding bacon would be good with them, too.

Where are Joy and Lloyd. I know Lloyd is busy now but  miss the both of them Having pc problems I know I missed some days of posts and most  likelly missed what has happened in here. Glad Phyllis does show up. Remember the days when we had a lot of members in our "cyber family?"

Just  heard local wea ther and tomorrow morning there is rain and thunderstorms predicted.

Take care of yourselves and have a wonderful day.

Been 10 days since last posting from Lloyd, either on his travels  ( he was in the process of getting his RV up and running ) or hopefully, not back inside hospital...Lloyd very rarely misses one day of posting but ten days is cause for concern...
He did post of his yard sale taking place tomorrow 25th...

Speaking of Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwiches...that is what we had for supper last night.  I had a tomato that needed to be used.  Unfortunately, it wasn't fresh out of my garden, Amy, but did come from a local farmer's garden via Papa Spud's.  It was good.  I discovered that bacon cooks very nicely in the air fryer so I'll do that again.  Easy clean up, too .  We also had some local sliced cucumbers with it and fresh N.C. blueberries.  It was a good meal.

I think Lloyd has said that he wouldn't have internet connection at the new place.  Perhaps that is why we haven't heard from him.

Take care, All.

Phyllis , I did our bacon in the air fryer also and will do it that way from now on. We like ours crispy and it came out perfect. Not sitting cooking in the grease as it would in a frying pan. Your meal sounds delicious! Our wild blueberries should be on next month, may try to go pick as long as the bears stay on the other side of the bush!

Phyllis when I last talked with Lloyd and Nancy they had their hands full getting ready for the sale, plus packing for their move. Yes, you're right on the internet, but Lloyd said he would try and find a way .

Good morning from a bright and sunny interior, with a low of seventy and a high in the mid-eighties. However, apparently, that is no longer good news with seventy-three active state fires and five of those surround our city.

No present smoke as the winds are in opposite directions but there was this early morning warning, "Red Flag Warning issued June 24 at 4:09AM AKDT until June 24 at 9:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks

Middle Tanana Valley
...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM AKDT THIS
EVENING FOR MIDDLE TANANA VALLEY...
* AFFECTED AREA...Middle Tanana Valley.
* TIMING...Noon to 9 pm today.
* WINDS...South 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
* HUMIDITY...As low as 25 percent.
* TEMPERATURES...72 to 80.
* IMPACTS...Rapid ignition, growth, and spread of fires will be
possible.
A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are occurring or will
occur which could lead to the development of large and dangerous
fires. It is directed toward fire agencies, and through them, to
the public.
Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of this Red Flag Warning."

Jane, it sounds as if Frankie was lucky to find employment fast, and that isn't always easy, good for her! I wish we had closer markets, or I had easier and closer transportation!

The three farmer's markets are open, and trade is evidently brisk as it's reported. But, I live off the town center, and both major markets are on opposite ends. I have a date with Claire for the third or fourth of next month, so I'm preparing a growing list.

Jenny, in the two weeks following my daughter's death, I was numb. You do what you can when you can and hold to that. All else is superfluous. I am so sorry this has happened to you and Bob and especially to Dave and her three children.

We were a Noxema family for years, mom insisted, and I'm glad she did.

Amy, I see in my planner that Canada has two national holidays this week, last Monday and today. Does everything close, or is it business as usual? I apologise  for my ignorance. As a child, we, Alaskans, shared schools sometimes when borders were close until the seventies and often celebrated each other's holidays.

I need to find something to keep me busy today. I'm avoiding the bathroom. Last January, I succumbed to fads and purchased a 24 pocket net shoe bag for the back of the bathroom door. Pinterest was featuring this as an organizing tool, and I should have known better. It doesn't appeal; it clunks when you close the door; nothing is at hand. Clearly, I should have thought that through!

Gloria, I, too, remember tomato sandwiches on hot days, so cool and so good! We would cook our bacon in a rack in the oven, crispy and never sitting in all that grease. I'm sure Lloyd and Nancy are busy with the sale and with moving. I'm so sorry about what happened with them.

Joy, has had some issues, too, but I hope to see her return. I, too, remember taking three or more hours to make it through the daily site!

Good morning Phyllis. I had a large cucumber with sour cream and dill salad on the 14th, I believe. It was so chilled and good, and I just nibbled on and off and on until it was suddenly, unfortunately, gone. I need to make more.

When we went blueberry or another picking, per bears, it was always planned with more than one family and children and dogs. The noise alone kept the bears away. Now I do all my picking at the local farmer's markets.

Lost Words From Those Of Us Lucky Enough To Have Lived Through the 1950's

Mergatroyd!   Do you remember that word?  Would you believe the spell-checker did not recognize the word Mergatroyd?  Heavens to Mergatroyd!

The other day a not so elderly, (I say 75), lady said something to her son about driving a   Jalopy;   and he looked at her, quizzically and said, "What the heck is a Jalopy?"  He had never heard of the word jalopy!  She knew she was old ... But not that old!
Well, I hope you are Hunky Dory   after you read this and chuckle.
About a month ago, I illuminated some old expressions that have become obsolete because of the inexorable march of technology. These phrases included: Don't touch that dial, Carbon copy, You sound like a broken record, and Hung out to dry.

Back in the olden days, we had a lot of moxie. We'd put on our best bib and tucker ,   to   straighten up and fly right.

Heavens to Betsy!   Gee whillikers!   Jumping jehoshaphat, Holy moley!
We were in like Flynn and   living the life of Riley ; and even a regular guy couldn't accuse us of being a knucklehead, a nincompoop or a pill.   Not for all the tea in China!

Back in the olden days, life used to be swell,   but when's the last time anything was swell?
S well has gone the way of beehives, pageboys and the D.A.; of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and pedal pushers.

We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we can say,   "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!" Or,   "This is a fine kettle of fish!"      We discover that the words we grew up with, the words that seemed omnipresent - as oxygen - have vanished with scarcely a notice from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards.

Poof, go the words of our youth, the words we've left behind.  We blink, and they're gone.  Where have all those great phrases gone?

Hi Everyfriend!  I've been up to my eyeballs in "BUSY"!  It started first thing this morning when I realized that I forgot to make dogfood before I went to bed.  I managed that in time to fee 2 doggies.  When Frankie has an early start to her working day, she cuts a little time by not feeding Cooper and I do it for her when he gets here.  He arrived at 6:30 this morning.

Then after checking to make sure the water wasn't running brown from the water line flushing, I threw in some laundry, threw on some clothes and too the doggies for their walk.  When we got back, I cleaned up the kitchen, put the clothes in the dryer and headed for the shower.

Today was lunch out with my former PA House Furniture Co. co-workers.  I always enjoy that and I did today but when I got home, the first thing the doggies wanted was a walk.  So off we went.  And we were barely back until Frankie came to get Cooper.  Tomorrow he'll come a bit later.  She has a Dr. appt at 11 and then work at 1 so she'll drop him before the appt and leave him until she gets back from work.

After that, I took the laundry out of the dryer and put the second load in the dryer, folded and put away, then folded an put away the second load, had supper, watched Matlock on TV had ice cream and suffered a bout of slam shuts!  And here I am!  What a day!

And a note just popped up that SHIRLEY has posted!  So I guess I'll go see what she has to say and then post this thing!

SHIRLEY, I always get a charge out of those but this time it reminded me of something that just happened here.  Frankie and I were talking about how tired we both were and I mentioned that my feet felt like I was wearing "clodhopper".  She looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language and said "What the heck are clodhoppers?"

Good night, all!  I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Not a cookie in the house so maybe baking is also in order today..

A quick Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be another
one of those days" around here.  I need to make a quick trip to WM to pick up a few things and get my hair trimmed if they aren't swamped.

After that, I need to get ready for company!  My daughter is coming tomorrow and I just heard she's bringing me a "very large" cabbage out of her garden and some fresh eggs from her chickens.  I think I might make and can cole slaw with the cabbage!  I have one jar of last year's left and it sure does taste good in January.

I forgot to mention that one of the gals who comes to the PA House lunches brought me a dozen pint canning jars and mentioned that she has lots more if I need them.  And another gal saw them and said she has a bunch of the half cup size jars and some of the half pint jelly jars if I want them.  I do!  She's bringing them to our next gathering!  I passed out jam at the last gathering and they loved it!

Forgot to mention....the rhubarb juice is really good.  I wish I'd doubled the recipe.  Rhubarb is almost over here!

I wish you all a good day!  Better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Waking up to 75°, sticky hot. The radio man just commented on the "Monster Moon" hanging low over the sky this morning, but I didn't get up in time to see it. I usually try to capture photos of the special moons, and like you said, Rick, usually it's overcast and not an option.

Listened to local news for a few minutes & then started straightening up before the next termite man comes to inspect. I was NOT impressed with the young man that came yesterday but will probably have to go with his company to have the 5 year guarantee so I won't have to deal with termites again if & when I'm ready to give up this house.

Got the front sprinklers running, the yard doesn't look too bad but the sweet gum tree is shedding leaves. When it did this one year I checked with the extention office & was told that "these trees put on more leaves than they can support if it gets too hot & dry so they shed them". This tree is huge & one I pulled up as a seedling, put in a pot & few years before my husband died, he planted it in the front yard. The year before he died he was so excited when he saw it had ONE of those little spikey balls near the top. Now it dumps bushels every summer/fall and I have so many little seedlings of sweet gum & red bud trees I pull them up & often they get ahead of me so I cut them down. I would love to have a forest of trees to live in/under, I do hate summer. ::)

Cats stayed out last night but waiting at the door for salmon breakfast. Time for me to grab a bite & do what I have time for with a 10:30 inspection.

I've been digging out closets & the storage under beds and sorting clothes piled up in the basement ironing room. Piles to get rid of, some to take to my sister that I never wore because after putting on would find they are too hot for me. She is cold natured so always happy to see me bring a pile of things I never wore. She doesn't have one of the "Half of half" price stores. Every time I try to clean out something happens I must stop & hide the piles and start all over later. Best part is often I come up with shirts or slacks/jeans that feel great on or just what I've been wishing for & forgot I had. I went shopping this week, more to get out than anything, and my fav store was having a big sale. I spent a whole $20 for about $600-$700 worth of clothes (still had factory tags on, best names). I always wash everything I buy, mainly to get the "sizing" out but with germs being a focus this year.... that, too. Means I have ironing to do but also half a dozen pairs of pants & 4 tops new for the summer. I do buy long pants to cut off just below the knee, never liked short shorts if working in the yard.

So that's my morning report. Sure is sticky hot with this door open. Cats wanted breakfast in the pool area so I served!  My glasses should be back (again) today so that'll be a trip to the optometrist this afternoon, so another shower & wash hair before I go. Haha, can't do anything without a shower first these sweaty days!

Wishing all a happy day..... what was that song, "Happy days are here to stay... dum-de-dum". No time to look it up so it'll be running thru my head until I do Google!  Shirley

Good morning everyone. This will be very short. Of all days to sleep late I have a CNA comin‌g at 10  and she is one I do not care for.  I reallly miss Yvette. Have to have breakfast and dress before she gets here.

Better get a move on or she will be here and I will not be ready for her. She is one I keep an eye on or she will just sit and not do what she is paid for.

Okay, I came to sob & whine. The 2nd termite guy was so much nicer I think I will go with his company/proposal. Have sent both estimates to my kids to look over for their opinions. Had the call my glasses were ready but told them I had to wait until the estimater left. SO hot already. Picked up glasses, had short visit with the optometrist, about 90 but enjoys working 2 days a week for "contact". Was a good girl and didn't pick up any fast food, got home & garage door wouldn't open... went up a few inches & slammed back down, at least 4-5 times. SO my remote works for both doors (separate buttons) it wasn't a problem except couldn't get the car inside with storm warning just issued. Wire was dangling, Overhead Door sticker right next to the controls so made the call for repairs before even coming in the house. They called to confirm "next free man would take care of my problem".  Didn't take long before he was here & found the spring had broken. Got new one put on and all's well. $185. for today, but glad to get the car inside before hail. Now it looks like the storm has slipped right past Wichita! I am getting the feeling "somebody up there doesn't like me".... but I'm taking care of the cats, what more can I do???? Another day in Kansas!

Hello Everyfriend!  I had a nice phone chat with Joy's daughter-in=law today.  Joy is still in rehab and has about 2 more weeks to go.  Her DIL says she's doing well and is anxious to get home.
I told her to tell Joy that we all asked about her and that we all miss her and are hoping to see her back soon.  She promised that she would do that!

Also finished my cleaning for company and lots of doggie walking.  Made some egg salad to have for lunch tomorrow, when Christy is here, put a bunch of stuff away and tidied up.  Have to water the plants early in the morning so they're not gasping for water when the sun comes up.

I planned to do some more laundry today but I met the guy from the water company down at the end of the block and remarked that this must be my neighborhood's day for "brown water" and he said, "you're right about that!"  So I put off the laundry for another day.

I going to turn on the DW before I hit the haystack so we have dishes to use over the weekend while Christy is here and then I'm conking out!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning
We had rain most of the night and looks as though it will continue during the day. Last night the neighbour phoned to say one of the baby birds fell out of the birdhouse  in the garden. Out I go to see just where he is and found him in the garden,,,huddled ruffled feathers from the rain. Handed the escapee to the neighbour while I went for a ladder. Put him back in his house and hoped momma would feed him.

Today a friend is having her garage sale, not a good day weather wise but needs to get rid of a lot before they move. He is going into a nursing home and she is finding a place to live near him. This is so sad ,that they can't be in a place together. They also have a dog  and I hope she can look after Harley.

Shirley, oh my what a day you had!! Don't you hate it when the garage door won't open? We have had to call the repair man once on this door and he was quick to fix. Kyle usually can fix the problem but it needed a new part to work properly.

Jane, how did you make your rhubarb juice and what do you use it for? This is also the first time I have heard of canning cole slaw...please explain that one also :) Have fun with Cristy. Thank you for the update on Joy, she is missed for sure.

Gloria, our plants and trees are giddy with relief from the rain. We are to get rain for the next few days and that saves me from watering. The potato plants are just about to break out in flower.

Patricia, hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Better get..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning!  This will be a quickie because I have to get out and water the plants before it gets too hot.  And I still have some stuff to do before Christy gets here.

AMY, I drink the rhubarb juice and I didn't make enough.  The recipe called for 8 pounds of rhubarb and I cut it in half and I'm already sorry because rhubarb is almost finished here.

As for the canned cole slaw, it's not really cole slaw.  It's more like pickled cabbage because there's no mayo in it.  It's a new recipe and I'm thinking I might try adding the mayo when I open a jar.  Everything else is in there and it's not like the pickled cabbage recipe I tried a couple years ago.  That was REALLY sour!  I used it all up but never did it again.  This is a new recipe.  I'm going to try it on the "really big" (her words) head of cabbage Christy is bringing me today!  I post a report!

Now I have to throw on some clothes and go water the plants.  I hope the birdie is OK.  Poor little guy!

Have a good day everyfriend....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

New day, still a light rain but tad cooler, 70°, cats ate their salmon. Tom sitting under overhang  in the pool area already but Tiger sitting inside at the door, thinking about it. Callie wanted breakfast in the garage & will go back to sleep. She is getting old and not as eager to put up with the outside world. I've been shocked that she isn't the least interested in the strangers around as long as I'm here she feels safe.

Thank you, Jane, for checking on Joy. I know I'd be better if having re-hab to strengthen these lazy muscles but couldn't leave with the cats (and my doctors know that). Too bad she doesn't have a computer with her, I'd be lost not being able to visit y'all. Truly would. My good friend here in town has been doing some exercises at home and is convinced she is much stronger with a more positive attitude about our ages (she is 10 days younger than I am).

Amy, when we lived in Leawood (heart of KC), we had very tame cardinals that built a nest right outside the sun room door. I had no problem keeping an eye on the eggs & babies. Cardinals do build lousy nests & had a neighbor where we lived before, we actually put a piece of screen wire UNDER the nest to anchor it in the evergreen, Mom & Pop thanked us when we put babies back in and no more problems. The ones in Leawood were not the best of parents but didn't mind when I plunked those babies back in the nest so many times. They (both parents) didn't show up one week end, was several days, so I mixed my instant mashed potatoes & scrambled egg & fed them every few hours all day and fixed a shoe box with shredded paper in the bottom, and brought the babies inside for 2 or 3 nights. Would you believe that Mom & Dad showed up like nothing wrong and continued feeding the babies until time for them to learn to fly???  The lady that lived in the house before stopped by a few times to ask about the cardinals, she had spoiled them, I think! It doesn't take much to make me happy, just wildlife to watch! Sorry to hear about your friend's situation, a day everyone dreads. Best wishes for her & Harley.

Need to open the gate so Tom & Tiger can venture out into the grass without having to climb the fence. I prop it open for Callie because she struggles with climbing the wire part of the fence like a ladder instead of going up the wood posts. The wire part is rubber coated so doesn't hurt her, but she is getting old..... Have regulation 5' fence around the whole back yard so is okay to leave the pool fence/gate open in daytime. At night I don't want the fox to be able to come in to capture the cats, this is their safe spot! The fox bone structure is small enough to slip through the 5" space between wrought iron fence.

The neighbor that has the chickens got some babies this spring & said one turned out to be a rooster. Told them I love to hear them crow so hope nobody else complains. Not supposed to have roosters in town. I have the door open & first time I've heard him except when he was practicing the other day...mid-day! They were down to 2 of the 6 started with. Fox got in the yard one night & killed one or two & another managed to fly off & someone in the next block found it & called to ask if I might know who it belonged to. Another just died. They built such an elaborate house for them & absolutely no smell or flies so I was glad when they got more. I think 6 is the limit in town.

And that's my world this June 12,2021.

Good morning everyone, a "soupy" one here. misty and humid at 67. Going up to 80's before day is over. Another heat wave in the for mid week. Glad I went outside when we had the beautiful days.

SHIRLEY  think it is  time to think of selling t ha t house and move  to something smaller? Seems like small things happen lately. Glad they sent sone to fix the garage door so fast. I can unders tand why you wanted your car inside away from hail like you get out there.

JANE  good thing you saw that man from the water department and put off doing laundry. Can you imagine wha t white/light colored things would look like if the rusty water got to them. Enjoy your dompany. Thank you for the update on Joy.

AMY  that poor little bird. I had read before that a mama would not want a baby after a huma handled them I hope that is not true. It would be cruel for her to starve it or push it out of the nest. My SIL has put a watering system in the raised beds they made for my daughter's garden. My daughter turns it on and sets the timer and it goes off automatically. The wa ter sinks into the soil and waters  the roots so oes not dry up into the dry heat they have. She has already picked some zucchini and of course lettuce. I tod her wha tyou said about eggshells and she showed me a bag full of the shells she has already pu t some around her toma toes. Been doing it for a few years already.

Be t ter get a move on and get my breakfast before my son gets here.
Have a good day and keep cool and safe.

A good SUNDAY afternoon HELLO to all.

We spent most of the morning trying to get all the rain water out of our patio cushions. The debris from trees and plants all over the place too. We received 2 1/2 inches on Friday.....then more yesterday and more again today. I am not complaining as any moisture is welcomed‼️ Sure wish theWest Coast could get some nice showers.🙏🙏

Dave and the kiddos are back in Boston after two days in NY City.  Dave's best friend from high school help to tour them around yesterday.  They walked over 22 miles, so they are exhausted and their feet are very tired‼️😅 Tomorrow they will fly home....and reality will set in as they are back in their home🙏🙏

We all are at a loss of words over the Miami condo disaster.  How many more buildings like that are in danger?  So sad for the families that are waiting word on their loved ones🙏😩

Seeing pictures that the family shared from NYC yesterday also helped to remember our time there not that long ago.  One of my solemness  moments was standing at the reflecting pools of the 9/11 Memorial titled "Reflecting Absence" by Michael Arad. You could hear a pin drop....

PATRICIA, my heart aches for you and others that have buried their children.  I am kind of in denial that this has happened and yet, I know well it did.  I dread the family coming home to the home and how it is going to effect them.

JANE...enjoy the visit.....precious time, for sure! Thank you for thr update nnJoy.  I hope she can get stronger so she can get home.

SHIRLEY, a week ago the spring broke on our garage door also.....took a few days to get someone out to do the repair....$280.00 later and we are back in business.  Did the guys have a nice time in Colorado, I hope? I loved LOAT WORDS... so many of those old sayings I still use today!  Even CLODHOPPERS, JANE!

OH how I loved all of the posts....thanks to ALL for giving us something to learn, remember or what every.  So blessed to have a nice group to chat with.

Jenny

I'm on my way to the haystack and my eyes have already entered the slam shut mode.  It was a great weekend with my daughter and granddaughter but it was waaaaay too short!

I might not be on tomorrow morning.  Cooper is arriving about 7:30 and my friend, Shirley, is picking me up at 8 to go pick black raspberries.  It's going to be hot but the owner's email said the bushes are loaded!  When I get back, I'll have to deal with the two doggies and the berries and I'm sure the couch will be calling my name in the afternoon.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

We are off and running.....umm..a sedate walk would be more like it.  I have a list of items to pick up for the neighbours, friends and us. Cooler is already packed in the van with an ice pack.

More rain last night and likely more today. Fire ban has been lifted in this area for now.

Jane, our rhubarb is still going strong. My friend wants to get some to freeze and I will freeze some .

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning everyone. Had a problem getting to my last post this morning. don't know it is this lemon or the site messing  around. Finally g ot to today's posts so did miss those of yes terday. Will no t go hunting  for them anymore. Just saw loal forcast-chance of thunderstorms today up to Wednesday then rain the rest of the week but on the Fourth they have a question mark. Think Joan  hit it  r ight when she called the fore casters "weather  guessers".

JANE  hope you picked those berries one for the container and one for you to make sure they taste good.

I hope I have Yvette back  today.  The woman from the company has been calling me every day to say who is coming the next day. No call from her Friday so have my fingers crossed. If these companies would give them a decent pay maybe it would make more people want to be homemakers or CNAs.

Have a good day and stay cool if possible.

Good morning, Friends! Cloudy (love it) & rain drops every time I'm ready to go attack that holly bush so an excuse not to go out. Need to vac the pool & should do it while this cool BUT... haha, I need to wear glasses to see what I'm doing & they don't have little windshield wipers on them so will see how this works. Maybe just go eat a donut. I'd rather go back to bed but so many must dos on the agenda I don't dare zonk out until at least part taken care of.

Even tho some of you talk about dull lives, you do teach some of us a lot about a different way of life. I never heard of CNAs until you, Gloria.... and won't single out, but each of you have interesting lives to me. My little corner of the world is pretty simple, but it's where I am at this stage so even tho I do a lot of whining, this is MY choice.

For once the wind is not blowing ((didja hear that??? THE WIND IS NOT BLOWING IN KANSAS!))) I will go turn the front sprinklers on since mowers don't come until tomorrow & my grass out front is looking better than has for many years.

The lady from Overhead Door just called to thank me for the business last Friday & wanted to know if all's well. I got to tell her how much I appreciate their speedy work, but didn't tell her they were cheaper than yours, Jenny!

Jenny, as we all know, there isn't any way to ease the pain of giving up someone, it gnaws at the strangest times. Best way is to keep telling them to "be the person their mother wanted them to be.... best way to honor her memory and absolutely remember she wanted them to be happy".

Amy & Jane, I bow to your gardening skills.... last night I threw away all those little red tomatoes with the icky bottoms. One (of about 25) had less than the others so I washed & cut the bad off the bottom & top, had one bite but it didn't taste really good so not sure I will try tomatoes next year. Did put the smashed egg shells around the base, will see if that helps. Need to make more phone calls so better move along.

As Callie would say, "Have a Merry Monday"!!!   HiHoHiHo, off to work we go.............

Good morning from an Interior where the weather stays the same and the days roll on. Saturday, we had another picnic, the hot dogs and burgers type with cool drinks and loads of gossip! A very casual, slow-moving, lovely time just enjoying the moment.

I needed that as Sunday was spent dealing with an internet account that decided in their infinite wisdom to delete my account and open two new empty ones under each of my emails when I updated my account. I luckily have a backup, but it is buried in one of my externals, so I'm not happy about that or them! This week, hopefully, will be sunnier.

We had an enjoyable day, topping it off by meeting Sabrina who gave us two packed tins of homemade cookies, biscotti 4 different kinds and jam and cinnamon honey butter...
We only had to brake for one doe. We stop at a park to let the dogs out and I could hear a squawking going on  I found out it was baby osprey calling its Mom. Once Mom flew in the nest all was quiet.
Now to figure out do I can or freeze all the hamburg I bought today. Strawberries should be here tomorrow and those I will freeze.
Patricia, good food ,good friends what more can one ask for??

We have several ospreys but primarily on a near army base where you're not allowed as a civilian and can't go exploring even tho the birds are safe. Still, on the far end, there are firing or bombing ranges or other incendiary reasons!

Right now, with the ravens in the mountains for the summer and cooler weather, we have besides the local wrens, robins, and magpies, herring gulls, and mew gulls in my area. On the other further western side is the wildlife refuge with all the swans, ducks, geese, cranes, hawks, etc.

There are golden eagles but not in the city proper. I used to head out to the refuge several times a week, but not in the past years since I fell on black ice in 2014.

I got back safely from the raspberry field with more black raspberries than I planned to pick.  There were so many of them that you hardly had to move to fill a container!  My friend, Shirley, picked about twice as many as I did because I left the BR field to go over to the Red Raspberry field but by the time I got there, it had been pretty well picked over.

When I got home, I was soaked with perspiration (or maybe it was just plain sweeat).  I put the berries in the fridge and hopped (or maybe crawled) into the shower.  After that I felt a bit better and I've accomplished a few things...including a phone consultation with my dr. about the gunk growing in my cheek.  It's been tested and it's NOT malignant!  HOORAY!!!!.  The choices to get rid of it are to have a local anesthetic and do it in the office or in the hospital with a general anesthetic.  I'm thinking that over and discussing it with my kids and anyone else who has an opinion.  She (the doctor) mentioned what her choice was and I'm taking that into consideration, too.
She also mentioned that I'm a "healthy older woman" so my choices are more open than some peoples' are.

Now, I'm going to take the rest of the day off!  And tomorrow, I'm making black raspberry jam!  And I'm having blackberries and cream for breakfast!

Gloria, I don't know where you got the idea that I'm a gardener!
If I got any instincts from my dad as I grew up, one was NOT gardening.
My daughter Christy is the gardener and it's her touch that makes things grow at my house.  I just water them, pick them, cook and can them.  I did learn that from my Mother!

I think Mickie might want a short walk so we'll take off for the mail box.  It's not too far to wear out either of us but it is up th street!

I hope you are all having a good day!  Better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Well now, this is very interesting!  Yesterday, I told everyone that I might not be in most of the day today and when I got here late afternoon, around 5?30 p.m., this had been a very busy place.  I read and I posted and then everyone left and no one came back for 5 hours.  That should tell me SOMETHING!

I'm heading for the haystack and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

And I WILL be around tomorrow!  And I WILL be checking to see if y'all come or y'all stay away because of me!  Good night!

Darn, now even my notepad is messing me up. Was ready to post and everything I had typed disappeared. I tried  the undo and nothing came back.

JANE  you never make me stay away from t he SS. It is how I feel or how lazy I am that I do not post. Do you strain the seed out of y  our blackberry jam? I did when I used to make it. Those seeds drove me crazy getting stuck between my teeth or at the gum line.

AMY  do you freeze  the s trawberries whole or do you slice or mash them before freezing? I always slice  them and add a little sugar before freezing. Thanks for Lloyd's message. I feel bad for  the things tha t have happened to him from someone he thought was a good friend and a grandson. He sure did not deserve to be kicked in the butt from 2 people he trusted.

Still no Yvette and have the second best CNA I had a couple of times since Y left on her vacation. No one is as good or caring a Yvette.

Better go get washed and dressed and make the bed before I let this CNA in.

Have a good day and stay safe and cool.

Got a little drizzle right now so will keep this short (really?).... but wanted to mention to Lloyd that I don't think you pay taxes on anything sold at auction or garage sales because you've paid taxes on it once already. Is this the grandson you'll be staying with in same farm or duplex?  He might have been just thinking ahead to where y'all can store stuff. I'm like you, do not want anyone trying to tell me what to do or how to do it!  A tough time for you & Nancy, I hate changes.

Jane, I started itching when you mentioned berry picking! I've had a terrible time this year with bug bites and have yet to see what is biting so must be chiggers. Got out the big guns this week, my own solution. Been putting on Cutter's & several other brands of sprays that do not seem to interest these bugs but took a B-1 vitamin & then got out the bottle of baby oil I mixed with B-1 vitamins last year & rubbed that on legs, around neck & arms and nary a single new bite. I did smash another new B-1 (in a snack baggie)& added to the baby oil so fresh stink. But it worked for me!

The first time we were going to Colorado to camp my mother was so afraid we'd be putting on the commercial sprays & not wash off before getting into sleeping bags, she sent a clipping out of their paper about 2 young campers that died because of the sprays they used & didn't wash off before getting into sleeping bags. I am kind of "anti" anything that repels bugs being on my bare skin so was pleased when just taking the vitamin worked for me, but even better with the baby oil plus crushed vitamin that clings to skin. hahaha, people don't like the smell too much, either! Most of the time just swallowing the vitamin will work for me. An old pharmacist told me to try it when we first moved to Wichita some 50 years ago, said the B1 is what is in most prescriptions for mosquito repellents. He recommended 100mg for adults, 50mg for mid size and 25mg for the little kids. My kids could swallow pills so worked for them & us. What I put in the baby oil stays a little "grainy" but works.

Gloria, as a kid & again the first place we lived in KS had all the blackberries we could eat. I also strained the seeds out of the jam but gave up when making blackberry cobblers. Both places we had the "tame" berries that were at least as big a a thumb, and so sweet. Yum...

Well, looks like the off/on sprinkles are on again so may as well do inside work & get busy. The mowers are due about noon & I usually get out my weed whip (battery operated Black & Decker) to trim where they don't go & they can blow away any mess I make on the sidewalk. They will not attack my flowers since they don't know which is flowers & weeds. Have a "bezillion" little red bud trees that pop up everywhere. I've transplanted so many I just chop off the babies now, they grow so fast I can't keep ahead.

Well, I did laugh at first about this being "short"..... behave, everyone! Thanks for finding Lloyd, AMY!

Good Morning...Good Afternoon....Good Evening...And GOOD NIGHT!

It's been a very busy day and I have 11 jars of Black Raspberrry Jan to show for it and another container of black raspberries in the fridge for eating.  GLORIA, I do not strain my berries and when I mash them I don't mash them to a thin pulp because I like to get the pieces of berry on my bread/toast/whatever.  And also because my mother never did.  I prefer jam to jelly every day.  I like the pieces of fruit!

I also have closets and drawers full of clean (and when needed...ironed) clothes.  It was way too hot to be outside so I did what needed done inside.  Our temp almost made it to 100 but it stopped at 99º.  It was almost too hot to breathe out there!

Mickie didn't even waste any time outside.  She went out after lunch, did the necessaries, took a roll in the grass and hurried back inside!

Now I'm heading for the haystack because I have a lot to do tomorrow, too.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

A day of catch up here...clean up the kitchen from last night and need to deliver 2 quilts once I make the contact with the people.

Hamburg, strawberries all but 3 quarts and a mixed berries canned ready for pie filling are done now.

Gloria, I prefer to cut the large berries and mixed with sugar, let them set till there is a bit of juice in the bowl then bag and seal them. I find they taste just like fresh when thawed.

Shirley, I passed your sketter information on to friends that live deep in the woods. He normally slathers baby oil on ,but I think this method may work better.

Jane, wow you were busy!!! Only berry ready here are strawberries and they are really good this year. I am not a fan of strawberries but have ate some of these.

Phyllis and Joy good morning to you.

I lost one post due to trying to do too much at once so I am going to get this one I hope gone.

Good morning everyone, the sun is shining already and it looks so nice outside. Already 80 at 7:30. When I got on Skype yes terday told Regina I might get off fast. We had storms in the forecast. We did chat for a hour and the storm started. It was loud and bright. I am not as bad as I used to be. I used to pull all the plugs from appliances. Now I just shut off TV and PC bul left the AC running. We got to 97 yes terday and broke a record set in 1934. I poured and my windowsch from the rehab place but I was still weak and when Yvette came every day she had me lay on the couch and she waited on me. Even when I had to get up and take care of nature's calling me shw would walk me and  the rollator  to  the bathroom.

JANE  like you I prefere jam, if spreads much bet ter on bread or whatever. The only thing jelled I like is cranberry sauce, not the whole canned cranberries. In the fall I ger severa l bags of them and cook them and put into small  containers into the freezer.

AMY  that  is what I do with strawberries. Leaving them whole they do not have anytaste to them and do not hold the shape too well after thawng. Tried that once with just a few of them to see how they would be. Never again.

OK we know Joy is recouperating snd wanting t o get home. Lloyd is still in a mess with getting out of the family farm. Where is Callie? Who else is missing? So few of us here in the SS these days. Getting lonesome.

Time for breakfast so will sat bye bye for now.
Have a great day, keep cool and no outside work at all. Stay safe.

Not often seen but lurking and reading ---
Welcome back Bubble & Lloyd.
Bubble, Don't push it too much. Let each day bring improvement.
Lloyd, a couple of days to "let the dust settle" and the sleep should get better. Your comment about the lift chair reminds me - must change batteries in ours, lest we have a power failure.

And a soggy good morning from Kansas!  I can't remember EVER having rain this many days in a row in all my years in KS. We had one bolt of lightning that put me n the cat to the ceiling, about 2:30 am. Got up to see if any damage, we didn't lose power, so went ahead and ate & fed Tiger. Tom had stayed outside under the eves where he doesn't get wet, but not there when I got up the early hour but was laying on the step waiting for his breakfast at 7:30 (I did go back to bed).

Bubble, so glad to see you back. These days it takes longer & longer to get back to "normal" after being sick, so be nice to yourself!

Lloyd, hope you enjoy the new life, remember that you are blessed because you & Nancy have each other and where ever you are together is HOME! My Fitbit says I had a little over an hour sleep before the lightning and won't give me credit for the the maybe 2 or 3 hours after. Like you, I am as tired as when I went to bed last night. Better go flush some water out of the pool while the rain stopped, radar showing a lot more on the way.

Rick, your mention of battery in the chair reminds me why I couldn't go to sleep last night. I was kicking myself for not taking batteries out of the cameras & metal detectors that aren't getting used for a long time.... and probably some flashlights with leaky batteries. This whole last year & half, nearly 2 years, has been a fog.

Amy, I haven't seen a good cauliflower for a couple years. I love steaming the whole head in my little electric pressure cooker with a good shake of Mrs.Dash over & then a lot of shredded cheese melted over that. Could make a meal out of it. Cas always suggested I cook it outside!!! Oops, too late to work outside, raining again!!! I think my trug needs a drain plug. :-\

Gloria, I totally agree about jam over jelly and cranberry sauce over the lumps. My mother's cranberry dish she made had pecans in it & not sure what else, but it was really good. I did come turn off this laptop & unplug after that bolt of lightning got me up, it isn't on a surge protector. The two really old ones are, but they take so long to wake up even when on, it would have taken half an hour to shut them down. One is tied to the printer and the other oldie still has some of the PSP that works. They started out being XP & Vista so long past updates. Well, rain is not just a sprinkle now! I missed my chance to get water out of the pool.

Good morning from a steady, partly sunny, partly cloudy Interior! We've canceled our outing for the third or the fourth due to the holiday and rescheduled for the following week. I still have some shopping to do so may brave the crowds alone.

Bubble, I have hurrahed your return through various sites so that I will simply say hi!

It is so nice to see Lloyd again! I also had trouble sleeping last night, so I slept in this morning. If it wasn't for Farrah's repeatedly nudging me awake, I might still be there.

I'm on the jam and cranberry team as well, altho jelly makes a very nice rub on for some meats. I have a delicious sweet pineapple and red pepper type presently from friends.

Time to make my way to the haystack before the zzzzzs come to get me!  It's been another "one of those days".  Christy brought me a BIG cabbage from her garden this past weekend and I decided to try a recipe I found on line.  It called it "Canned Cole Slaw" but hen I read the ingredients it didn't sound like cole slaw....until I got to the end and it said, "You can eat it in the canning brine or empty the brine and add mayonnaise".  I canned some today and I'm going to try it as soon as I can.  If it works, I'm making more.  I only got 3 pints out of it because I was short the Apple Cider Vinegar.  But I still have half a cabbage and it will keep until I can make a trip to Davy's

After I was all in but my shoe strings I was just about to sit down and I heard a knock on my door.  It was my second cousin Patty and her husband.  It gave me an uneasy feeling because she doesn't stop here often.  And I was right.  My oldest cousin, George (her father) passed away this past week.  He was one of my favorite cousins and while we haven't got together a lot lately, we share a treasure trove of memories from our growing up years and our raising kids years.  He was a special guy and I will always love him and the times we shared! He was almost 93...his birthday is early July.

Now I'm going to head for the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane, a sincere note of sympathy for loss of your cousin. Even when we haven't gotten together much the last few years, it was comforting to know they were still on this earth with us. Mine have gone from the 60s on Mom's side to less than a hand full, and only 3 remaining on Dad's. I'm sure your heart is heavy tonight. (((hugs)))

Sweet dreams to all, been a busy day here and busier tomorrow.   I need my beauty sleep,
BOY, DO I NEED BEAUTY SLEEP!!!
