Take Me Home, Country Roads
John Denver

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

All my memories gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice in the mornin' hour, she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road, I get a feelin'
That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

Take me home, (down) country roads
Take me home, (down) country roads

Good morning...

Overcast here with a threat of a thunderstorm . Need to make dog food today and tidy up from yesterdays canning. Lots of fun doing the work but the cleaning up is no fun and gremlins didn't do it over night.

We are also celebrating a holiday here Canada Day. I just hope there are no fireworks here in this area as it scares the Babe. A lot of dogs will also go missing as people don't know enough to keep their dogs in the house while lighting these off.

Bubble, thank you for the new start page and I hope with each new day finds you a bit stronger. Take Me Home is one of the songs Kyle plays on the guitar.

Jane, I am sorry about your uncle passing. Dwell on all the good memories you have tucked away.

Lloyd, a new computer!! You can do it, you can learn in time all the ways to enjoy your computer.

Better get a long...which reminds me..

Why do cowboys always want a dachshund?

They want to get a long little doggie.

Better see what mischief I can get into.

Enjoy your day..stay safe

Good Morning to Everyfriend!  What a nice, new Soda Shoppe we have and it all cleaned up, decorated and stocked!  Thank you BUBBLE.  But the best part is that our DEAR BUBBLE is feeling up to doing this for us.  Nice to have you back!

LLOYD, just keep plugging along.  That's what we all have to do!

It's raining here and is supposed to keep it up all day.  I can actually hear the grass and other growing things slurping it up!  It's been so dry around here that people haven't even been mowing the grass.  There isn't any to mow!

I called my sister last night to tell her about our Cousin, George and we talked and remembered for over an hour!  He really was a good guy!

The rain has brought the temperature down and it's only supposed to get to the high 70s today.  That's a relief!

We were interrupted by the arrival of Cooper.  And he hadn't had his breakfast yet so we fed him and loved him up a little!  I have to go to Davy's today and I'm thinking about getting a hoagie for lunch.  Haven't reached a decision yet.

I better get a move on!  Stuff is calling.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

And Good Morning from Kansas. It is still, nary a twig blowing. I feel like I should run down & turn the sprinklers on but grass certainly doesn't need any more moisture because I see almost 2" in the rain gauge & had emptied it before what we got yesterday. Need to go weed whip where the mowers don't trim, pick up the stuff I cut yesterday & hope everyone shows up to do their thing.

I need to trim my hair & take a shower before anyone sees me, fell into bed last night without a shower because all 3 kids either called or came by to visit & time ran out.

Bubble, thanks for the flag waving 4th today! So good to see you are in control again. Good stuff you posted, all of it!

Good morning everyone, we had the Tstorm again last night, not as long lasting as the one Tuesday but louder and closer and more bright flashes of lightening.  Just heard on TV we have more again but earlier than yesterday.

LLOYD  good seeing your post this morning.  Glad Nancy has that new lift chair. Getting rid of the old one is the har d part now, right?

AMY  I will be so glad to see Yvette again. The CNA coming today is pre tty good and the best I have had since Y has been on vaca tion. I don't know what I will do when she has the knee surgery. I am never comfortable with strangers coming into my home.

SHIRLEY  be glad of the rain and no fires. Heard on the news a bit ago that the whole west coast from the Baja to Alaska is very dry and many fires. Is winter ready to visit yet?

PATRICIA  when I get up in the mornings I would rather just turn over and go back to sleep.

JENNY  so good seeing everyone posting this morning. You were missed, too.

JANE  hope you enjpy that canned cabbage.

BUBBLE  thanks for our new home for July. Love both graphics, especially the second one. It is a dream that everyone would like by Lincoln's quote.
Thanks for all today's goodies.

AMY  your left me with a groan little doggie ??

JANE  this place is still green. There are sprinklers all over on timers to water grass and flowers. Landscapers are here every Wednesday and start work at 7 am on time. Seems they stare with the mowers and leaf blowers with under my windosw evey week.

SHIRLEY glad the wind is calm for a litte while there.

Have a good day everyone and s tay safe and cool.

Good morning from a sunny Interior! We're said to be headed for 86° this morning and similar for the remainder of the week. We'll have illegal fireworks on the fourth as there are still idiots among us. One, we've had fires in the area; two, it's 24/7 sunlight, so only the bang is noticeable, and three, this city sits in the middle of a dry, parched forest!

I have a decade-changing birthday at the end of the month, and while I considered the last one as still on the fringe of middle age, that excuse isn't looking as well this month. Perhaps if I squint?

Patricia, I remember the light when it was to be dark in the north. We were in the Yukon at that
time and it took forever to go to sleep for me.

Age is just a number to be ignored, with it comes a lot of perks ..some good...some not so good. Just take it all in stride and enjoy life to the fullest.

🇨🇦 HAPPY CANADA DAY 🇨🇦 AMY, and anyone else who might celebrate this occasion ‼️

Thank you, BUBBLE for our nice new festivitie home for July.  Very nice tribute to Americans Birthday 🇺🇸 Sadly, there are way too many loud fireworks going off every night already and dog owners are begging them to stop‼️😩😩

My day started out with a beautiful delivery of flowers from our neighbors.  So very sweet and appreciated. It has been sunny and nice but is clouding over again so more rain is coming.  We had a big rain during the night with lots of thunder and lightning.  I can not help but feel rather guilty that we are getting all of this rain when so many areas are not getting a drop😩😢

JANE, my condolences to you for the passing of your Cousin George.  He was special to you and it was nice that you and your sis had a nice conversation about him🙏

AMY, good advice for Patricia and her decade changing birthday 🥳  Even my kids are starting to want to ignore the numbers🤪  My baby turned 45 this week and I remember all too well when I turned 45 and it wasn't that long ago😢😘. Now who am I trying to kid??

Many people are commenting online about all the different kind of mold, mushrooms and unknown varieties of growths in their yards from all the rain.  It is worrisome to pet owners and young children if they are dangerous and they should  remove them?

SHIRLEY, I hope you enjoy the calmer weather for awhile....that wind can really go on your nerves.

GLORIA, I can totally relate to you not wanting to have strangers in your home....I hope when Yvette has her surgery you will have a nice replacement CNA to come in.

I am making potato soup and it is ready for the next step.

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday🦋

Jenny

Hello Everyfriend!  Today was also a busy day but mostly a sitting down one.  It was mental rather than physical.  I was doing paper work and getting bill ready to be paid.  I detest that job!

We had rain most of the day today.  It stopped and started.  There's a big puddle in the street and if it was time to take Mickie for her walk, I checked to see if there were raindrops falling in the puddle.  If there weren't, we got ready and went but it usually started again before we got back.  It wasn't hard storms...just soaking rain, the kind we need!  I suppose the grass and weeds will be shooting ou of the ground this week!  At least it cooled off the weather a bit.  Our high was only 75 today.

Frankie came by aftr work and we had dinner together and she's spending the night.  She doesn't have to go to work until 1 p.m. tomorrow so she's taking the morning off.  Maybe I will, too!

JENNY, thanks for the good wishes about George.  I'm sure you understand how I'm feeling right now.  Now as close as your loss but painful!

I'm off to the haystack now.  I'm ready to drag in the zzzzs and let them infiltrate my brain and my bones and muscles.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning from another rainy day here. We did not have any Tstorm yesterday but just light rain. Must have been harder  rain during the night because me windows are wet this morning. I have one last day with a different CNA and on Tuesday I will finallly get Yvette back. I think that will be a day to celebrate for me. I know her other client will be rejoicing, too. The one I had yesterday is the only one of all the odd or lazy ones I had that I like and told the boss I wish I could have her when Y goes for her knee surgery. This one has a sense of humor and fun to talk with.

PATRICIA  Fireworks are illegal in Rhode Island but some people will get some out os state and let the off. Even sparklers they do not want kids to have because they are so hot the kids could burn thenselves. I had them when I was a kid and so did my 3 and knew they could not touch the rod and just enjoy seeing those sparks. They do have places they set them off professionally and they are  always crowded. Last time I saw a fireworks display was one year I was in San  Diego visiting my daughter and family. They had barges set out in the Pacific away from the very dry land. There was a slight overcast and when they went up in the air and exploded they were dim and then when they got under the overcast they got bright. It was like seeing them 2 times. I had a decade chaning birthday this year and now I would think I an a Nonegerian. Is that the right word for someone in their 90's?

AMY  don't think I would be able to sleep in summer in Alaska. I like a very dark room to sleep in.

JENNY  like you I would love to send some of the rain we are haveing with the western states. We do not get forest fires but many brush fires that can get out of control befire the firefighters can get to them. Where we do have a lot of trees and brush growing there are no roads and hard to get to them. I have never seen a bad one here and they get them out PDQ. My oldest baby is 70 today. Do you think I feel my age when I think about it? Second son will be 69 in September. My baby daughter will be 67 in December.

LLOYD  prayer s for thing so go in your way in court. Hard to see land that has been in your family for generations to be taken over by a back stabbing person you thought was a good friend.

AMY  wow you were up and out of the house before I was awake this morning.

Where is Callie? Have not  seen her since I have been back on here. I think she is the only one now that I have not seen. It would be grea t if those who stop by and read the posts would stop long enough to post a little bit. We are nic folks here and don't bit e anyone, honestly.

Have a good day and stay safe and in some areas dodge the rain drops and in other places I pray you do get some rain.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's not raining right now but we are supposed to get a bit more later today.  Frankie and Cooper are out taking a walk and then she'll be leaving to go home ad get ready for work.  She has a late day today.  We've had a bit of a visit this morning and she got to sleep in a bit.  I let Cooper out of her bedroom and took him out with Mickie and me and fed him and then he went back to wait for her.

We've shared breakfast and som air fryer secrets.  Frankie wants to ge one for herself.

I guess I better take Mickie for a walk before it gets too hot.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

The mowers have been & gone, starting to sizzel with humidity & heavy dew. Will call the termite guy to find out if he'll come morning or afternoon, I still have an errand to run. My body is dragging with the heavy air & not so sound sleep.

It was 8 years ago this morning that I found Cas dead in his bed. A whole new life since, have done okay until this past year & everything kind of out of control. The list of "oh, NOs" is so long I won't go on, but taking a toll, for sure. But always hope for tomorrow.

Gloria, today I am ready to do whatever to find a cool place to be outside. AC just isn't the same as fresh air below 70°, heck, I wouldn't even mind snow! Doesn't that sound good?  :snowball:  :snowman:

Good morning from a warm but smoky Interior. One close area fire has exploded to over 2500 acres, but luckily it's heading west away from us; however, we're getting its traveling smoke. We reached 87 degrees yesterday and expecting the same today. It's tough to sleep in hot weather. It's very dry, and you feel as if you're under the broiler. Such is forest life.

Other than that, today will be a day of finishing up in the apartment and making lists for tomorrow's bills and grocery outings.

Gloria, the word for me would be septuagenarian; it sounds like some invertebrate classification. I like yours better.   :)

During the summer, newcomers always complain about the 24/7 daylight. They put up blackout curtains or aluminum foil on their windows, but locals love it as the other end of the spectrum is five hours of daylight. I was told when we were in Montrose, Colorado, I was five and cried when it got dark. I still feel that way when I'm in the lower forty-eight because it seems as if you're shortchanged.

Shirley, I'm sorry about your aches and pains. These past few months have had their share of woes for me, too, from falling and losing my glasses in a freak snowstorm to living life in a total lockdown to spraining my left leg.

The way I'm looking at it is all of that's in the rearview mirror. I need to be more careful. I'm now on an inflammatory diet and expected to give up red meat or make it infrequently. This is another challenge I didn't want, but my body seems to love it.

Callie has been posting over in Norm's B&T.

Good morning Jane and Amy; we'll have that here on the fourth, even with laws against firecrackers in the city limits, bright sunshine, and forest fires all around. Farrah is very calm, but the dog below us howls, and I feel so bad for him.

Patricia, Babe vibrates.. pants and I feel so sorry for her. I just hold onto her and hope they soon end, same with a t storm.

Picked ,cleaned rhubarb and it is in the freezer plus I have some to take to my sil tomorrow.

Starting to get back into them muggy weather. Like you Shirley and Gloria, I will take a colder weather. I used to be on a hot tractor out in a field cutting,.bailing or bringing in hay..would kill me now!!

Grocery shopping this morning saw a lot of empty spots on the shelves. Gone is our quiet town..hustle and bustle of tourists and cottagers....

Sorry, Callie. Gloria asked, "Where is Callie? I have not seen her since I have been back on here. I think she is the only one now that I have not seen."

Amy, I feel for Babe! Farrah used to react to loud noises, and then she started looking to see my reaction first. At her next vet visit, I had them test her hearing, but she passed. We have hair-trigger smoke alarms here, and then the offender opens their outside door to reassure folks which only sets off the ones in the hallway. We're told upon move in to run the ceiling fans when we're stovetop cooking. That means that we have periods of smoke alarms that ring very loudly until the firemen come to shut them off. They also make an uncomfortable visit to the offender.

Rhubard, zucchini, and some other crops are so plentiful here that you will see Fall piles of them on a yard with a free sign. Unfortunately, most fruits and some berries aren't local and are brought in. Before Jane, I had never heard of black raspberries, and now I would love to taste some.

After the past three rainy summers, I love the eighties. We used to have 100 to 104 degrees, but we haven't seen that in perhaps ten years. We're in a dry climate, so you don't have the humidity, and you need to stay hydrated.

Amy that sounds like our situation. However, the number of fires is going down, but the acreage is increasing.  Alaska currently has 62 fires down from 76, and most now are in the 10 to the 250-acre range, but some are hitting patches of black spruce, which has a waxy sap. The largest state fires, 2500+, are closest to here but burning away from us.

We're the assigned evacuation point for both fire and flood for everything north of The Southeast region, and some have come in. Still, the majority of fires are in unpopulated forested areas. They say Alaska has a fire ecology, so perhaps western Canada too?

I believe that Western Canada and  Interior Alaska share the same ecosystem. Both seem like home.

"No biggie", Patricia.  I do like that the regular participants in various conversational forums have found things in common to visit about.
Doesn't mean that those of us who don't really have much to contribute to those subjects don't enjoy reading about them and chime in once in a while.

Central Oklahoma is soggy!!  12 inches of rain in the past week - and more on the way.  If it isn't too wet to go for a walk and/or work in the flower beds - it's too humid. So, in addition to the usual Domestic Duties, I'm reading lots of e-books, doing some family history writing and watching movies and some series on Netflix.

CALLIE, I also read, make list, share family history, cook.  My gardening skills are limited but Christy pickes up where I fall down.

I made my quick trip to Davy's but I forgot to put sugar on my list and for the first time in my married life, I'm almost out!  I might have a tsp full...a tbsp full if I'm lucky.

Gonna go sneak a snooze and then try to remember what still needs doing.  The temps are in the mid 79s today but were supposed to be getting more rain any minute.  Keep on keeping on!

Thunder storms here now and one vibrating dog!! We are thankful for the rain but it could come quietly.

Jane, sugar is on sale here for $1.44 for 5 lbs so I did stock up. Picking time is ahead and it sure takes a lot.

Patricia, 70's is perfect weather for us. One can work out in it and not melt!

It's 82 degrees presently at one PM and headed for a high of 86. You don't melt here either as it's a dry, not wet climate. Think Arizona, or the desert, or a 500-degree roasting oven. It would help if you remembered to hydrate as you won't sweat.

Another day is over and...

We did get the expected rain...nice soft soaking rain

And I did get sugar. SANDY and it was on sale here, too, AMY

I cooked some pheasant that Frankie stuck in my fridge because her mother took it out of the freezer and told her she had to use it NOW.  So she brought it over and put it in my fridge and told me what her mother said...."If you don't do anything else with it, cook it and feed it to the dogs."  So I did!

I still need to make a trip to WM but I'm not doing that on Saturday.  I'll wait until Monday morning to do that.  I happen to know that Monday morning isn't busy.

I also have a bit of advice for those of you with timid animals.  Many years ago, I just happened to mention, in my niece's presence, that both my dogs shook and hid when the fireworks were being set off or thunder was really cracking.  She told me to go to the health food store and get something called "Rescue Remedy".  It comes with a dropper and my doggies only needed a couple drops and they calmed down.  They still stuck to me like glue but they weren't looking for a place to hide and they weren't shivering in fear.  And it's all natural so it will not hurt them!  Look for it!  It wasn't very expensive and it worked!

And now I'm going to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

So far no rain but weather folks are still calling for it and more! Lots to do today and hope I can get all the jobs done. Need to take some rhubarb to sil this morning a few other chores in town then home to work. Have one more quilt to deliver after making contact with the lady.

Jane, I will look for that next time we go to the city, thank you!! Babe will thank you also.

Better get my dudes on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, another gray day here with more rain on and off all day. Getting tiresome and wish mother nature would send some into the western states where it is badly needed. One good  thing about today, my DIL is coming to cut my hair and boy do I need a haircut.

JANE  the more I read about the air fryers the more I want one. My DIL has one and used it once and did not like it so never used it again.

SHIRLEY  I am wit h you, the AC is fine for keeping it cooler inside but not like fresh air and to me it is noisy too. Since I have only 2 windows it is in the window in here ad close to where the pc is so I am too close to the noise of it.  I am with y ou, snow is nicer  than  the rain we have been getting, it is beautiful t o look at before the summer is through I might wan t some rain so better close my  thoughts on it now.

PATRICIA  in Arizona my daught er is baking wi th almost no humidity and here we are boiling with all the humidity in summer.

CALLIE  you have been missed here.  This is  the onoly forum I get to anymore so never get to Norm's B&T.

AMY  this town has changed so much since I firs t came here 71 years ago. A quiet town where people were friendly and just about knew everyone. City people s tarted buying land and moving here. They wanted the concenience of city living tha t we did not have. T his town is all lit tle villages and we had a lo t of s tores and clo thing s tores and a depar tmen t st ore. Plen ty of mills and a lo t of people who lived here worked in  town.  The city people got  into politics  and started  changing every thing. Now  the whole  town is more like a bedroom communit y, no more jobs for everyone. Sad  to see it change  the way it did. No more 5 pound bags of sugar here, 4 pounds now and costs more.

Better get a move on, son will be here soon and want to get dressed before he does.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Good morning from a smoky Interior; I woke up briefly last night and could smell it in the bedroom. Evidently, the winds have shifted, temperatures are cooling, and rain is predicted this coming Monday.

Nothing on the agenda for me but venturing out on errands and finishing up a few household chores. Farrah has been clingy the past few days, but she had the zoomies yesterday and chased down a fly that had gotten in when I was on the balcony. So, she had her protein, and I quit worrying about her health.

Our July fourth plans were canceled due to weather. I hope that no one is foolish enough to set off fireworks, but this is humans we're talking about.

Hi Gloria, this city has changed too, from around 22,000 when I was young to 100,000 today. We've grown more industrial than bedroom, so we aren't that pretty, but we're the ones to come to for services in 175,000 Interior miles.

Hi Amy, I wish I lived rurally. I moved into this building when my get up and go left and never returned. And because it was both Independent and disabled senior-oriented. It's in an older industrial area, and since they cut down the trees in the back, not that scenic.

Jane, I had forgotten about Rescue Remedy. It's natural, and people can take it too. It works, but the effects are mild with no aftereffects. I remember a lady from old SeniorNet who was moving with her husband and two fussy cats. Her husband built a sort of double wooden condo for the back of their car, and each morning she would put a bit on their tongues, and it worked wonders.

You are my hero in all that you do. If my job isn't done before noon, it rarely happens!

Gloria, we are reasonably  quiet through Spring and winter. Summer we are inundated with what some call "citidiots". Not all leave their brains and manners at home but the greatest majority do. Gone is the peace and quiet, gone also is the beauty of the stars and moon for lights. They don't like the fact they have to share with the critters..never mind that they are in the critters home/back yard and should mind their manners. I guess it all boils down to respect....to which if one doesn't respect themselves how can they respect others and nature?

I watched your video and although he does have a good point I will keep on wearing my mask. He was blowing the smoke through the masks he had one with some force. I try not to huff and puff.. :2funny:

Looks like I missed my chance to say "Good Morning so I'll just go with...Good Afternoon Everyfriend!  It's nice to see so many of you around.  I had a busy morning.  I think I said that Cooper (my great grand doggy) spent the night here.  Frankie had a late work day yesterday and was beat when she got home so she just left him.  And she was going to Maryland to visit her mother so she just picked him up on the way.

My chore for today was to make more brine to do the cabbage for cole slaw and I had a brainstorm.  According to the recipe, you can the coleslaw in the brine and then either eat it that way as pickled cabbage or drain the brine and add mayonnaise for cole slaw.  My brainstorm referred to the pickled cabbage I made last year that turned out so sour it drew in not only your lips but your cheeks all the way to your ears and it closed your eyes.  Even adding sugar didn't help.  But today, I got out the jar in the fridge, drained the vinegar, rinsed it, added sugar and let it sit for an hour.  Then I added Mayo and stirred it up good and.....WOW!  Cole Slaw!!!!  Good Cole Slaw!

I'm still going to make more of the new recipe but now I know I'll get through that sour stuff too.

PATRICIA...I read the last line of your last entry several times and I still don't know to whom you were referring!  I sure don't fit that description.  I do have a healthy respect for everyone on this forum, though.  They are all role models in their own way!

The rain just cut loose again!  Mickie and I were out for a walk and it was beautiful!  Just warm enough not to need a jacket and not so hot it melted us.  And now it's pouring!  Unpredictable weather!

I guess I better get back to work and start cutting up the rest of the cabbage, grating the carrots and chopping the peppers or I won't be ready to can the rest of it tomorrow.

My morning is pretty well planned tomorrow.  My church has started having services again and that's at 10 a.m.  Then I'll hurry home because my SiL is preaching the sermon at their church in Houston and I try to watch when he does that.  He's pretty good and I like that service, too.  I wonder if I get extra points from ABOVE when I go twice on Sunday?

I hope you are all having a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Keep on keeping on!

Wonder where PHYLLIS is?  And Rammel? And Sandy? And anyone else?

Jane, yes ,you are amazing in all that you do!!! All your delicious goodies that you share with others. all the work involved in doing them. YOU ARE AMAZING!

I am sitting here reading your cabbage ordeal and thought of the time we made sauerkraut. as you know you let it ferment and you can not hide from the smell!! At that time we had new windows but one was giving us grief so a rep came out to deal with it. Imagine the look on his face when he entered!! We did eventually tell him the cause of the odor.

Amy, when I went through my gr-mother's house that Dad helped build from 1912-14, he kept seeing things left behind after the auction. I have the "kraut masher"... a maybe 2' pole of oak, rounded & smoothed nicely. The monster gray/brown "tub", looked to be same clay mix as used for those jugs to hold vinegar or wine, but it was broken. Don't know the diameter of the masher but I can't get my fingers around it. I came home with the dipper that was always hanging by the cistern, a large spoon used for making soap and Grandma's cane, I guess they soaked that wood to make the curve in the handle. Looks to be walnut, as well as the sort of paddle used to dip clothes out of boiling water on wash day. All hang on those long ago expandable wood peg hangers down in a room in the basement. Dad's parents made wine & vinegar as well as growing everything & preserving everything. They had apricot trees on the farm and dried them along with apples, etc.

When my mother decided to write her memories down I begged her to just tell about ONE day on loose leaf paper that I took her, put her age at the top & I would organize it by that. She had me get her a tape recorder but that didn't work out at all, just pencil & paper. I spent one whole year while kids were in school, adding continuity but trying to keep Mother's words the way she talked. My kids are all interested in the past but so far none of the grands are.  I've given some things to the historical society in the little town they grew up in or near. If anyone wants to see they can visit there.

Got the roast ground & all that stuff put away, now to make a bowl of meat spread. I was so disappointed the guy I called yesterday to give me an estimate for clearing the berm & do some other jobs, called about half an hour before he was to be here & said their dryer broke & had had to get it to the appliance store for repair at same time he was to be here, so asked if he could come this morning at 9:00. Of course I was okay & understood... only this morning he didn't bother to come by or call, so I will look for someone else. Don't expect them to do really hard labor for $25. an hour (cash) but he know when he did a good job last time I gave him a $50 bonus. He really was a good worker & think his wife is the problem. She was going to work with him the last time but didn't get out of the vehicle & I had to be the other pair of hands doing the job. When I paid him I told him I wasn't paying for her to just sit in the car, no clue why she even came unless she thought I wouldn't know she didn't work. I am disappointed since really need some help this week. I'd love to find a husband/wife team to get caught up around here but people don't want to work... help wanted signs everywhere.

Shirley, what great keepsakes you have!!

I have some of those jugs and some smaller ones. Not sure what was or is in them as the cork stays on!

I came across an old potato masher, the ones today are like this ## but this one ran back and forth like a windy road? I do have one and prefer it to the new fangled ones but gosh they are difficult to find.

When we travelled we would seek out museums to visit and  I was amazed at what they called antique as I still use some of the items. Goes to show you just how good they are compared to the throw aways we have now. away

I recently returned from shopping and bill paying. I try to have change and single bills for the taxis as many will not carry change. For me, that falls into the fool me once category.

When I do have good service, I make a point of thanking the person and adding what was appreciated. For example, there were two who went above and beyond to help me find an item at the grocery store. I thanked them, and after I checked out, I went to customer service, asked to see the grocery manager, and told him of my excellent experience and their names. I believe he was surprised to be complimented instead of yelled at and said he'd let them know they were appreciated. You have to lead by example.

Jane, you are one of the busiest homemakers I know. I make all these plans for a day, thinking it's like the old days, and perhaps one out of three gets done. I have a dartboard now, and I should stick the list up and let it fly next time. Hopefully, it will be the easy one.

All of my relatives up to the generation following me were farmers. There were no rich gentlemen farmers either. These were the type who drank moonshine and cussed out the mule.

Hello again!  We had three 15 minute rain showers today.  That's enough to water the grass and the gardens and the farmer's fields.  But it's not enough to keep Mickie and me home from our walks.

AMY, I think I have one of those "antique" potato mashers, too.  I really think it was my mother's and she brought it to my house when I was entertaining two families for Thanksgiving.  Or maybe my dad brought it.  He was the potato masher and he probably didn't like mine.

I've been remembering my visits to the farm where my dad grew up...mostly because the cousin that just passed away grew up there and built his house on the farm and lived there the rest of his life.  My dad was one of 7 brothers and only one of them stayed and worked the farm.  When my sister and I visited in the summer, we did what they did.  Mostly I went where the boys went...out to slop the hogs...off to bring the cows back from the field...up in the hayloft to spread the hay when someone tossed it up...out in the field to water, hoe, pull weeds, pick veggies and whatever else needed done.  But I was remembering when I went to bring in the cows, George picked me up and set me on the cows neck to ride back.  I felt like a princess.  And he was right there with one hand on my shoulder just in case!

I have the cabbage brine ready for tomorrow and the carrots and peppers are chopped but the cabbage is still waiting.  I did a bunch of stuff that wasn't planned but that reared their heads and demanded attention.  Feels good when that stuff gets done!

I thank you for the compliments but I don't deserve them any more than all of you do!  As I said before, you are all a bunch of people with special talents.  Sometimes I get very frustrated with computers and cell phones but I'm very grateful for this forum.  I always think of my grandmother in her 80s and how much she missed!  I think if this forum had been available to her, she'd have taught herself to use it!  And I KNOW my mother would have!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Happy 4th of July..

Enjoy your day with family and friends  and no doubt good food and laughter.

Good morning..
We had rain overnight and now sun is kissing the day.  A day of rest here other than giving a tomato plant a new home. We stopped at the Mennonites and the plants were on sale for $1.00 ,bought some for us and some for the neighbour..Also bought radishes as big or bigger than golf balls!! Those are for my friend who dearly enjoys them.

Patricia, I also do the same good service should get a good report to say job well done. During this pandemic some people have forgotten that the essential works are doing a service for them. I have heard the workers tell me about the abuse from customers they have had to deal with. One said she would just go get the manager and when confronted was as nice as pie to the manager! Why people have to tear a strip off of those trying to help is beyond me. Poor upbringing..no manners and no respect for others.

Jane, I  bet you have your original rolling pin . The ones today are so tiny compared to what I use. Now having said I am so pleased with Hank, what a mixer and so easy on my hands!

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

HAPPY FOURTH of JULY

Good morning everyone. 54 and wish I could turn the heat on. Pretty chilly in here. With that mask link I posted, all I got from it is the mask is protecting the wear er  not others and keeping our distance from others-strangers?` I know  the CNAs I had while Yvette was on vacat ion they all kept their masks on in here.  Most  of them said that this was the only place they have come where on the entry door is posted a sign from the manager that masks must be worn.

The rain stopped for now, even the walks are dry. St ill have rain in  the forecast though. A chilly Fourth this year here.

JANE  I get t ired  reading all you do. I remember all the time invonved with canning but  oh so good in the winter months.

PATRICIA  great that you showed your appreciation for the sevice you got from the store's employees. My daughter has done that for years.

AMY  you do a lot of canning and freezing of food, too. You do not shirk on the job either. Re member those old food grinders with the different blades?  I have one that was my Mom's and I still use it. Clamps onto the side of the counter shelf. Hoard for me to turn that handle these days but I love that old thing.

Have a good and safe  4th and le t's hope the fireworks are few so the dogs who get so frightened will be OK.

Gloria, thank you for the compliment. I think we can count you also in amongst us that worked  in the kitchen  plus raised a family. I have one of those grinders and use it to make green relish!! At the moment while I did say today is a day of rest I am canning. There was 30% off on some of the hamburg and I am now canning 10 pints for the dogs. I really like my air fryer....just the right size for  us..

I love this cooler weather..

Phyllis, good to see you. When done with canning your egg custard will be made in the instant pot.

Hey, Gloria, thanks for the card, really pretty, think JL outdid herself with that one!

I had one of the old grinders & used it SO MUCH I finally gave it to my daughter & bought the Kitchen Aide mixer with full power & the grinder that goes with it. Good thing because it gets used more than when I had 3 kids living at home. The kids all still love the meatspread and all those grands do, too. Am taking a big bowl over for the fireworks tonight, finger snack foods so I'll get help spreading it on Ritz crackers or they will start eating it by the spoon full.

Had Google set the alarm for 5:00am but as usual, woke up about 15 min before. It's been a long week of 4-5 hours sleep a night so was afraid I'd oversleep. Need a couple hours catch up before the fireworks. We've had some booms already this morning that sound like when my uncle blew sticks of dynamite off (he was building a lake & had it on hand). Was impressive!!!

Glad you mentioned the hamburger, Amy, I forgot I bought a big package at Sam's yesterday & was shocked the cats actually each ate a bowl full of "bites". I will put a hand full in sandwich bags & then the whole lot into a freezer bag with date, so I can pull out when needed. So far they are not after the birds this year, had some baby bunnies in the spring but seem to be satisfied with the red meat they get every day (along with the dry & canned cat food, people salmon & tuna, etc). Not sure why they decided this was okay, but I'll save it all for them & get me some next week (or go thru the fast food lanes when hungry for a hamburger).

I keep stopping to run outside to try to capture a shot of "Doc", the WWII plane a group of old factory workers restored. They say it's in mint condition & my understanding, earn some of it's upkeep by selling rides around/above town on holidays. It is a sound those of us that heard the planes during WWII, will never forget. We lived 20 miles from a SAC base all during the war, so ears always alert to the different types of sounds. Enjoy those memories!!!

After all the compliments that have been circulating, a song from the 50s (I think) found it's way into my brain and I had to come home from our walk and look it up.  Only the first couple lines are effective....

"We belong to a mutual admiration society...."  I can still hear Teresa Brewer singing it but it goes on to include her current love.  I prefer to think of my friends as a part of that society!

I didn't get the cabbage canned today but it's all ready to do tomorrow.  I'm planning a run to WM in the morning and I hope that doesn't take all the wind out of my sails.  And I think, just to be on the safe side, I'm going to make up another small batch of the brine.  I'd rather have leftovers than not enough!  And the recipe says that if you have brine left you can just go ahead and can it for the next time,

There are a few of my neighbors setting off fireworks and they are not overwhelming.  I'm rather enjoying them!  And they're not scaring Mickie because she can't hear them!

AMY, I do have the rolling pin that I went to housekeeping with but I'm envious of my sister.  She has the one that came with my grandfather when they closed the bakery.  I'm not sure how old that one is since my grandfather and his father and uncle owned the bakery together.  And my grandfather's father and brother came here from Germany in the 1800s.

Time to think about finding my way to the haystack!  I've been very tired tonight for some reason.  I think the zzzzzs might be after me!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

My sleep lately has been up and down. The past two mornings, I woke up at three and dozed my way to five. So this morning, I left at seven to take some items back to Freddies, otherwise known as Kroger's Fred Meyers, and was back home around nine. I certainly hope to sleep through tonight!

I roasted a pan of chicken thighs and two small pork roasts after rolling them in kosher salt crystals. The two thighs I had were delicious, and I have enough now for the remainder of the month.

I have a slow cooker beef roast with potatoes, onions, and carrots, and that should be finished about eleven PM. I'm not really supposed to have red meat, but I'm working my way through the meat I had previously.

Next week will be busy with small Amazon deliveries, maintenance calls, and figuring out how to get the refrigerator's door bar to stay put. I also expect three online issues to be resolved or else at this point!

Good morning...

Very quiet....did hear the loon earlier but no song birds singing . May get a storm this afternoon they say , I hope I get the quilt delivery done before it starts.

Better put the tomato plants in the ground this morning, not sure if they will have enough time to produce tomatoes but at the price couldn't refuse them.

Jane, that rolling pin of your grandfathers is an heirloom!! Can you just imagine the number of pie crusts it rolled out!

Patricia, your meals sound mouth watering.

Shirley, these dogs have quirky eating habits. One likes carrots either cooked or raw ,other one wants them cooked. One will eat strawberry yogurt other one won't. Can be a guessing game at times with them.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

It's a beautiful morning and the temp. is in the mid 70s but supposed to go up to low 90s this afternoon.  Back to high humidity, too.  I'm already wishing it was October.   ::)

All is quiet here after a busy and stressful week.  I just hope it stays that way for awhile.  I had to have a VERY large tree cut down and removed from behind my house last Wednesday and the job did not go as smoothly as I would have liked but it is done and I don't have to worry about it falling on my house when the next storm comes along.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday was the worse 4th I can remember for weather. I was cold all day with the dampness. About 5 the sun broke through and then it warmed up to 65. I did hear fireworks last night  but did not bother going to the window  to see the high ones. From the direct ion it was from one of 2 towns just over the border in Mass. A lot  were put off because of  the weather till tonight or next weekend. Last  night was one of the nights I could not sleep, have not had one of those in a long time. If I slept 2 hours I was lucky. Some days I have had a 2 hour nap and still slep t all night .

PHYLLIS  so glad to read you are s till here. The next town over has a Horribles parade on the 4th every year and I almost called my son to ask if they were going. I would love to see it again. T hey have the silliest floats and funny ones, too. I know he would have said-who wants to see that fooness.- At times I think he does not have a sense of humor. That is my oldest son.

AMY  how big is the airfryer? For jus t me I would not need a big one.I have so little counter space I would have to get rid of something to put  one there. No room for a kitchen cart in there either because I would have one on wheels  to move around. What is the difference betw een an instant pot and an airfryer? Guess I could Google it but really am  too lazy these days.
Now add some coconut to that custard and pt it in a pieshell to bake it, Yummy.

SHIRLEY  WHEN i WAS IN THE APARTMENT AT MY SON'S house someone down the road would let loud bans orr on the 4th. Sounded more like a shotgun going off. It would go off and the midnight hour on New Year's Eve and other holidays, too.

JENNY  thanks for the link. I have watched that before but enjoyed watching it again just now.

JANE  I had not thought of that song in years. of my SILs gave me a roling pen  the first Christmas we were married. Still have it minus one handle. I sure has seen a lo t of use. The old one you sister has must have been used so many times it would be impossible to guess the number.

PATRICIA  with Yvette coming back tomorrow I am lookin‌g forward to some good meals using up the meat I have in the freezer. NO MORE TV DINNERS! Some of  the ones I had while she was on vaca tion looked not too clean to me. I never asked them to massage my back either, never mind cook. Had one I really liked but she was busy with the laundry and no time for cooking. Of all the different ones she is the only one that has a sense of humor, too.

Think I gabbed enough and will go fix my breakfast.

Have a good day and be safe.

I've been busy & need a break. Went down & turned on front sprinklers for half an hour each & ran the vac in the pool while they were on. Water low because I drained out too much (expecting more rain) so back to basement to switch gears with sprinkler to water in the pool. Steps are steep to the basement so a huff & puff each way & that's already 2 ups & downs with one more to go to turn the well off. Anyway, pool nice & clean, only a few shreds of fireworks that blew in & one piece of lava rock that came in with something! I'm ready for a nap, no more assigned duties today, except clean up those *^# leaves that appeared after termite guys did their thing! It is a holiday and no mail, shouldn't be anything earth shaking.... except for that quake we had earlier this morning. I didn't feel it but guy on local radio seemed alarmed! I really don't know what people get excited about with the earth rotating & changing every few hundred/thousand years.

Gloria, my kitchen is the worst design of ANY house we've ever owned, no counter top for anything. BUT, a year or so ago I looked at all the baker's racks on Amazon & found one that is perfect. Well... maybe not PERFECT, but sure helps. Not sure how to make this link work, but the 3 wider shelves on bottom get the heavy cat food cans & appliances while the top ones hold smaller appliances used only now & then. See if this works.. does for me if I copy & paste.

https://www.amazon.com/Utility-Multiuse-Microwave-Organizer-Workstation/dp/B091Q6FLBK/ref=sr_1_86?crid=36DG4SYZMEIZQ&dchild=1&keywords=baker%27s+rack+black&qid=1625492119&sprefix=baker%27s+rack%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-86

And here's for all wishing for cooler weather... :snowball:  :snowman:

Good morning from a smelly, smokey  Interior with a couple of more small fires, but the hotshot crews are gaining on them. I'm hoping the winds shift soon and draw the smoke elsewhere. We do have some evacuees and some animals based at the fairgrounds, but it will get better with expected cooler weather after today.

Amy, my freezer is stuffed! I still meal prep because it's easier for me than to shop more often, and I eat better and have less food spoilage. I agree Jonah and Dad are very handsome!

Farrah, at one time, wouldn't touch wet food. And she doesn't like tuna or any human food, which I believe is a blessing. Shirley, I'm a mean cat lady. If she doesn't eat the vet-recommended food, I pick it up, refrigerate it, and wait until the next day.

She once went almost three days before she caught on to the schedule. If she truly doesn't care for something, we try another flavor, but that's after eating what's there. In this still pandemic lifestyle, no one will take open cat food.

Good morning Phyllis and Gloria!  Gloria, my studio kitchen has a small amount of counter space, and I use my stove and more than any other appliance. In 2019, they finally replaced the stove I had, and I found I preferred it over the microwave. That and my instapot made their way to the donation tables. Shirley, I redid your link for you,

https://tinyurl.com/yu5d9ask

Shirley, you're getting your exercise in today! We had one group of fireworks last night, and this after a posted ban, smoke in the air and drifting in people's houses and the outskirts under a possible evacuation alert!

From A.Word.A.Day with Anu Garg

Ever metaphor? You do meet them every day, whenever you speak, read, or write. A language is a giant shoebox of metaphors. This box has lead balloons, loose cannons, dirty linen, and more. Help yourself to whatever you like. Yes, you can even cherry-pick.

Some language metaphors are obvious, but many others aren't. Did you know that a muscle is, literally speaking, a little mouse? That's because someone thought the movement of a muscle, such as the biceps, resembled a mouse scurrying around.

Good AFTERNOON from the still
cool and beautiful rocky coast of
Maine.

My Kitchen is a tiny walk though space
but it is attached the my L shapped
living room area,  so I have utilized
that space to give me more kitchen
space, freeing up the little
counter space I have.

I still spend my days trying to declutter
my living area.    Which works but
it is a constant process.  Just glad that
I am still able to do it.    8)

We had lots of fire works here in Portland
Maine.   Which I watched live on the computer.

Not the same, of course,  but perfect
for me who chooses to stay home more now.

Have a good day,  everyone.

Monday evening.......wow, what a weekend. We spent yesterday with Dave and the children then again today adding our youngest son and his wife.  First time we have all been together in like 18 months‼️ We are all missing Our Michele, but we speak of her often and everyone seems comforted by doing so.  It was just so wonderful to be all together.

We had numerous firework display all around us last night.  More than we have ever had around since we have lived here. (14 years)  It was loud, Smokey and stinky😩‼️ One was viewable from my recliner and I really enjoyed that one.....many went on until nearly midnight 😩 I was sure glad when the boomers ended‼️

Thank you for the nice comments about my avatar with Mark and Jonah😘

I had a antique rolling pin from a bakery my grandmother worked at and sadly it disappeared in one of our moves!  Love reading about items like this that many of you have mentioned you have.

Such sad news on the news tonight .....a PGA Golfer shot and killed on a golf course as he went to see if the man driving a pickup on the golf course was OK, and a hockey young man being killed by a misguided fireworks display.....and the ongoing search for those missing in the condo collapse😩😩😢

Pleasant dreams to all.....I have my first out patient physical therapy tomorrow..... I have to admit I am not looking forward to it, but I must!  I am just so fearful of falling again.

We've had a fire warning all week. Today the smoke moved in, and you couldn't see the ridges or foothills. And it smelled like a campfire cookout. I posted a couple of pictures in photos.

Then while we were getting some evacuees and farm animals and pets were stabled at the fairgrounds, they promised various periods of rain and wind tonight with temperatures cooling.

Now we receive this, and the area mentioned is 75 to 50 miles east of us up to some of our outlying suburbs.

Hello To Everyfriend!  This day was definitely a busy one!  I actually came by here and read one time today.  I neclected my word games and even my email.  I started the canning process at 6:30 by making another  quart of the brine so I didn't tun out.  And I ended the day with 15 pints of canned cole slaw!

I remember almost passing on this recipe because I KNOW that mayonnaise cannot be canned but then I told myself "You have to at least see how they do it!"  And the trick is that the whole mixture minus the mayonnaise is canned and then when you want cole slaw, you drain the brine and mix in the mayo and it's so easy to do it's amazing...and delicious!

I almost can't wait to eat it but it says to wait at least 2 weeks.  I had to try the leftover that didn't fit the jars right now and I can't wait!

Then, after the last batch came out of the canner, the kitchen was all cleaned up and the doggies had their afternoon walk, I had a text from Frankie.  Seems she had hamburgers in her freezer that she could bring over for supper and what would go with them?  I suggested tater tots in the air fryer and a veggie.  She said she'd see me around 5.  She also brought along 2 ears of corn already cooked that she'd brought home from her mothers.  So we had supper together.

We were sitting in the living room and I looked at the clock and said, "Well, this ends a 12 hour work day for me and I'm all in but my shoestrings!"  And that was pretty bad because I not only didn't have any shoestrings...I wasn't even wearing shoes!

JENNY, I like the picture too and I'm also glad that your family is able to get together and miss Michele and remember her together!  Sounds like a good solid relationship!

My eyes are just about to enter slam shut mode so I guess I better sign off and head for the haystack!  I have to make my WM run tomorrow because Frankie has the next two days off so Cooper might not be available to doggy sit!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for July 1, 2021

Jane, it is an area that's fifty to seventy-five miles east of where I'm at and the downtown area. Some city suburbs are possibly included within 35 miles of the downtown area. It depends as the fire is moving in all directions, but in reality, we probably will be the staging grounds for more refugees. That notice was issued an hour ago, and the hotshot crews are on the scene, and I understand they're fighting it aggressively.

Just a quick "Good Morning Everyfriend"  Mickie is patiently awaiting her breakfast, Cooper will be arriving around 7 or so, I have to get a breakfast, a shower and get dressed for shopping.

A trip to WM is the only thing in my plans for today but that can really do me in and I have a pretty long list and I need a haircut.  Other than that, all I have on my todo list is to wipe the cole slaw jars, mark them and take them to the store room.  I think Frankie might be coming to spend the night!

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning...

Another quickie as Kyle has blood work this morning. We had thunder storm after thunder storm last evening and into the night. Rain is a blessing but we could do without the music!

Yesterday turned out busier than thought as I received a call from the neighbour needing a ride into town after the tow truck takes her vehicle in to the garage. Back home, lunch and then off I went to deliver a quilt and home to plant tomatoes. That was my day.

Patricia, praying that rain will come and help the firefighters. Stay safe.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Just had this sent to me...

TWELVE COMMANDMENTS FOR SENIORS

#1 - Talk to yourself. There are times you need expert advice.

#2 - "In Style" are the clothes that still fit.

#3 - You don't need anger management. You need people to stop pissing you off.

#4 - Your people skills are just fine. It's your tolerance for idiots that needs work.

#5 - The biggest lie you tell yourself is, "I don't need to write that down. I'll remember it."

#6 - "On time" is when you get there.

#7 - Even duct tape can't fix stupid, but it sure does muffle the sound.

#8 - It would be wonderful if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, then come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller?

#9 - Lately, you've noticed people your age are so much older than you.

#10 - Growing old should have taken longer.

#11 - Aging has slowed you down, but it hasn't shut you up.

#12 - You still haven't learned to act your age and hope you never will.

. . . And one more:
"One for the road" means peeing before you leave the house.

Be blessed 🔮 "it's the little things!!" ♥️

PATRICIA, I am sorry to read about your fires. IF only you could have a nice long rain to assist the firefighters.

AMY, loved the 12 Commandments for Seniors.

I went to my physical therapy today......they were not one bit happy to find that I can not lift my arm at all after this length of time after surgery.  They feel there is something wrong with either the location of the shoulder socket or some sever nerve issues caused from the trauma of them trying to get my shoulder back into the socket when I fell.  She was to contact my surgeon who I will see tomorrow morning.  Gurrrr.

Have a good evening.

Jenny

Time to head for the haystack!  I think my trip to WM tired me out faster than doing all that cabbage.  And just so everyone knows I didn't ignore your request that I post the cole slaw recipe, I sent it directly to you because (as I told you) I was half way through typing it up and realized that I don't know how to post it in recipes.  So if anyone else wants it, you (AMY) will have to post it.

AMY, I loved the commandments, too.  I'm sending them to all my senior friends and posting a copy on the fridge.

JENNY, I'm so sorry you have a problem with your arm.  It sounds pretty painful and it also sounds like it needs attention....NOW!  Good luck with that!

Frankie came over and she brought an InnovAsians General Tso's frozen dinner for us to have.  I added the leftover corn and some rice and we had a pretty good meal!  She's spending the night and she's already in bed.  That's where I'm heading!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jenny, I'm so sorry your shoulder is not doing what it should!!! Do hope they can fix without more surgery.

I am half asleep, as usual, a busy day with very little to show for my efforts. I got out of bed last night & came to search & research the Birdview satellite system Cas had for years. He kept buying more "stuff" for it up until a few years before he died, when he didn't have the energy to play with it anymore. Found a site of people still using them so posted a FREE to anyone willing to take down that monster dish & I will give them all the stuff that goes with it. Have a big box of equipment & no clue what it is. I had thought a farmer might find a use, but didn't know where to post an ad, so just stayed up & did it last night. Hope someone thinks Wichita isn't too far to travel, I would think all of the electronics he bought would be of use to anyone that knows how to operate. Anyway, this is only one item needing to get rid of. Have a remote control golf cart hanging from the ceiling in the garage. I do know he bought solid tires to put on because every time he used it he'd get a flat tire when he got home. We have a "sticker" called goat heads that will go thru anything! Anyway, something to think about besides the hot weather & termites!!! :o

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Shirley

Mixed day of different chores to do .Kyle needs to find hinges for his Alpine grocery store he is building and I am picking up the Rescue remedy for Babe in town.

Jenny all the work in exercising and physio you have done! I hope the surgeon can suggest something other than another operation for you.

Shirley, is this one of the 7-8 " dishes? If so some people have made a little pond out of them. They position in in the ground ,cement the exposed are and fill with water.

Jane, love chatting with you! I did post your recipe this morning what's for dinner. I also sent it on to Sabrina as she also cans. I like the fact that I can do it in pint jars  for the two of us.

Gloria, where are you???

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I got up and attem early this morning.  I think Mickie thought because there were extra people in the house, she better get on the move early and she hit the deck at 4:45 (held off from 4:30).  I took her out in the yard and then after her treat, napped a bit on the couch.  When I woke up, Cooper had joined us.  So I chased him out and then back in and started to feed the dogs.  Frankie said to make sure she was up by 6:30 at the latest.  I did that.  Put the coffee on and then took Mickie for her walk.

It's already 73º out there and heading for a high of 91 but it's also supposed to rain startng sometime this afternoon.  That's OK because then I won't have to drag the hose around and water the plants tonight!

AMY, thanks for posting the recipe for this dummy!

PATRICIA, what's happening with the fires?

JACKIE, it's always good to see your post!

SHIRLEY, Hooray! on taking care of the "stuff"!

RAMMEL, PHYLLIS, GLORIA, Everyone...check in!

Gotta go!  The washer stopped and the towels want to jump into the dryer but the door isn't open!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from a drizzly, rainy Interior, which is a nice change from the smoke of past days. Today will be the same as yesterday, but we've dropped from the high eighties. Right now, it is fifty degrees with a projected high of only sixty-one.

The Munson Fire news hasn't been updated today, but this is from yesterday afternoon, "Cooler temperatures, higher relative humidity, and light rain helped ease fire behavior on the Munson Creek Fire today. The fire received light rain on and off throughout the day. Current conditions at Chena Hot Springs are described as smoky and overcast.

The fire continues to creep down the hillside behind Chena Hot Springs Resort and helicopters made multiple water drops on the fire on the hillside behind the Aurora Ice Museum to check the fire up. Bucket drops were also used to slow the fire's advance as it moved down the hillside near Mile 54 Chena Hot Springs Road. Firefighters are strategically positioned to meet the fire as it comes down the hillside.

In addition to a light rain falling intermittently throughout the day Tuesday, helicopters were used to drop water on the Munson Creek Fire burning directly behind Chena Hot Springs Resort.
Crews are also taking direct action on the fire on the hillside behind Chena Hot Springs to slow its progress. Crews are constructing a control line from an aurorium on the hillside behind the resort to connect in to a backburn conducted east of the hot springs Monday night. The Pioneer Peak Hotshot Crew from Palmer has arrived at the fire and will be plugged in to assist with suppression and structure protection."

I'm frustrated that the news, unless dire, isn't updated until each afternoon. We have seven fires in the region, but only two are presently 2,500 to 20,000 acres burning. While there are now fifty-one burning statewide, the rain and cooler temperatures will alleviate the burns.

Jane, I was so glad to see your coleslaw recipe in recipes! Thanks, Amy!

Gloria, YAY! Yevette is back! I was on the long, long list for a CNA after my sprain but dropped out when I no longer met some requirements.

Amy, I forwarded your Commandments For Seniors; it was appreciated. People can also use rescue Remedy, and I have a friend who uses a touch on the tongue before the dentist. The rain is a steady drizzle, and if we do have more lightning, I hope the cooler temperatures and soaking will help!

Jenny, I hope you've heard some good news from your surgeon today? I'm sure Dave and the kids appreciate your loving presence and support right now.

Your "If only" came true as yesterday evening, we started drizzling, and it is continuing with a drop of thirty degrees.

I received a new Android cell phone as an early birthday present.  It integrates with my other devices, is more of a command center than simply a phone. And I will keep my older one at home and take this new one out with me. It's amazing what they come up with.

Hello All of you!  We got our thunderstorm tonight, too!  And it has cooled things off a bit.  The booming thunder has stopped but the rain is continuing to fall softly.  The grass is slurping it up and I didn't have to go out and water the plants tonight.

PATRICIA, I'm glad you got some rain and cooler weather.  I'm sure those flames don't like the rain and maybe they will diminish now.

You're welcome for the recipe.  It's a "tried and true" one...very good.

Also, Rescue Remedy was made originally for humans but it works on animals too.  Here, it's sold in health food stores and I think that's where AMY finally found it.  My one grand niece was a very excitable child and that's what my niece originally got it for  but she was told that it could be used on animals who fear weather changes too.  And I knw for a fact that it works on them.

Today was an "errand running day" and it was very frustrating.  My ATM card got stuck in the slot and I had to go in the bank and they had to do something inside and then go outside and remove it.  After that, it was more and more frustrations until I finally gave up on Davy's and came home to cool off...externally and internally!

GLORIA....YAY!  YVETTE IS BACK!

Hey LLOYD, nice to see you.

I notice that the storm brought along lower temps also.  At 9 p.n. it was still 89 degrees and now it's only 71!  I'm sure it will be good sleeping weather and that's the next think I'm going to check out.  The haystack calls!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

A late Wednesday Night HELLO to all. I really appreciated all the kind comments regarding the issue with my shoulder.  I did see the surgeon today and the news was not what I wanted to hear.  Unfortunately my fracture has not healed well at all and I am going to have a total shoulder replacement😩. I was told I could try to live with it and it might get somewhat better but the odds are not good.  We did not have to think about it long.....I really have no choice I MUST get it done.  My quality of life the way it is unacceptable😩. It is estimated to be nearly a month out to be able to schedule but we have started the ball rolling.

GLORIA..... YIPPEE YVETTE IS BACK‼️‼️

AMY and JANE.....busy as always.

Poor SHIRLEY.....HOT WEATHER AND TERMITES......NOT GOOD😘

It has been a very long day and I am off to get some shut eye.

I wish you all a quick, short GOOD Morning!

JENNY, I'm so sorry for your shoulder problem!  I will keep praying that all goes well when they get you into the schedule.  I know what a problem I had with the broken humerus bone in my upper arm and I can only imagine how much worse it must be with a shoulder.

I'm off to the showers now, then a walk for Mickie and (hopefully) a trip to Davy's to make up for cancelling it yesterday.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning..

Back to being muggy again......temp is 56° at the moment. Between crows, loons and starlings "talking" this morning sleeping in was not allowed.

If the rain holds off I would like to do more under brushing. Made a big pot of meatball bean soup in the IP last night so lunch has been taken care of.

Jane, it was explained to me that the Rescue  for pets has no alcohol in it.  I sure hope today goes a lot better for you.

Gloria, bet you are grinning from ear to ear with Yvette back. I am sure she is also happy to be back as you two get a long like two peas in a pod.

Jenny, I am sorry to read this. I do think you are taking the best way out though. You don't want to go through the rest of your life with your arm the way it is.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning everyone, hope everyone in the path of Elsa is not flooded out. We are to get the rain side of that storm tomorrow with a possible 2+ inches of rain so are being warned about flash flooding. So glad my family members are all living on high ground well above any streams. For the first time in many years with all this humidity we have been having with the heat we have been having thunderstorms in the late afternoons. I will not be on the PC during a storm so that means short times with my daughter. I shut the PC down and also the TV. When we had our house I was so bad I would pull a lot of plugs out. One night I shut the TV off and my husband turned it back on sat in his chair and bang-yes the TV was hit. Oh well he was really steaming then. Was not my fault. Only thing good was the next day we went out for a new TV and the first color one for us. In the area my daughter lives in Arizona they are in for almost a week of 100+ so they will be frying in that dry heat while we here boil.
As if the late afternoon thunderstorms aren't enough during the night we had another one, it wasn't the noise that woke me it was the flashing of the lightening, one flash after another so close. The sky now is showing some blue for a change.

AMY  yes Yvette and I were both happy to see each other on Tuesday, so was her other client. I did better than the other one, I had help(?) most of the days while the other lady who is confined to a wheel chair had only 5 days of help and she is one who needs it more than I do. They were stuck on one of the islands over there for 2 extra days. There was a small airline that went from the airport on the biggest island to one of the smaller islands, well the airline was sold and no more plane ride to the smaller island and they had to go by fishing boa t and it was a 4 hour ride. On the way home it was the same but they had to stay an extra night while they had to have another covid test.

JENNY  I had my right shoulder replaced about 10 years ago and never  any problem with it. Was a few days away from having the lef t one replaced and the insurance company I had then-United Health-dropped tha t group and I could not afford  the cost so canceled. At my age now I doubt and doctor would do elective surgery on me.

JANE  all the thunderstorms we have been having did no thing to lower the temperatures or humidity. So glad I have a good AC and got rid of that portable one.  Even my light bill ia half of what it was with the portable one.

PATRICIA  WISH SOME OF THE VERY DRY AREAS COULD GET A WEEK OF A SLOW SOAKING RAIN TO HELP. Darn caplock was on again.

AMY the surgery for  shoulder replacement is not bad but takes awhile to heal to use the arm again. I am another one who copied your 12 Commandments for Seniors. I will be sending it on when I get off of here.

Bet ter get a move on, Yvette is coming a t 10:30 today and tomorrow (if she can get out tomorrow with the heavy rain they are predic ting). From wha t she has said about her house it is in a hollow.

Have a good day and keep cool.

We have JULY weather for now so I will just moan & groan till it's over. I do dislike summer, got that out of my system!

Jenny, I am so sorry you have surgery to face, you are much braver than I am. Will be sending along prayers and good thoughts so keep us posted.

Last night my youngest so came over (his usual Wed night visit). I had been complaining about what a mess the termite team made of my yard with pulling those big storage containers away from the foundation to treat & in the process released mounds of leaves to be put in the trash dumpster. One of the RubberMaid containers had pulled apart & they just left it with the ends not snapped together. I either put one or two together by myself or helped with them, & one time the wind blew the one in the pool area apart because I didn't have the lid anchored down & they will just snap apart piece by piece. Got it put together & the stuff back in so must go out with a rake & the snow shovel this morning to clean up. Before it gets too hot!

Gloria, so happy for you that Yvette is back. She has been such a good friend to you as well as a helper, makes the day brighter!  I used to pull the plugs on TVs & anything I could reach but haven't done that since Cas died. Not sure why, but my laptops stay plugged in all the time anymore. We used to put them on surge protectors but so far this one hasn't been plugged into one since I bought it in CO a few years ago. Guess I'm pushing my luck or just getting lazy. The 2 old laptops are plugged into surge protectors & stay on all the time because it takes a week (slight exaggeration) for them to start up!

Amy, my wake up call was Tiger bouncing on my bed to let me know she was rested & ready to eat. She went downstairs last night when Tom & Callie opted to go outside. I slept so sound knowing the two outside didn't have storms to face & Tiger wouldn't be purring in my ear & tickling my nose all night.

Jane, I've been trying for days to make a trip to one store & wear down before I get there. I am going to go after cleaning up the leaves & taking a shower. It's off my beaten path but only place I can buy those old Schick injector blades I use to cut my hair. The last pack I opened the other day had to be knock-offs because they were so dull it felt like pulling hair out instead of cutting off. I usually buy 5 packs each time & they have cut them back to 5 blades in a pack.... only this one had 7 blades & I tried each one with the same results, I could have used the thick side as easily as the supposedly sharp one. Do hope to find sharp ones this time!

Patricia, prayers the fires end soon. I can only imagine what the landscape will look like after seeing Yellowstone the year after the big fire. My heart breaks for the lost wildlife and their habitat, as well as the loss to all Alaska people. Nature can be so cruel at times, but at the same time, it renews the land.

Must finish my breakfast & dress for yard work... not my favorite thing to do. Have a great day, every friend.... it is a short week because of the holiday so my head is shocked we have a week end already!!! Can't you believe tomorrow is Friday??

After three cool days of rain showers and high humidity, fire managers say there is still heat in the Munson Creek Fire based on a reconnaissance flight Wednesday. Precipitation this week was not sufficient to put the fire out but has kept it in check and smoldering through the understory. Active fire behavior could return with warmer weather forecast next week.

The estimated size of the fire did increase significantly following Wednesday's reconnaissance flight. Fire managers now estimate the fire is 36,609 acres, an increase of almost 11,000 acres. The increase is a product of both better mapping and fire growth over the past two days, primarily on the southern end near the Middle Fork of the Chena River. Just over 200 firefighters and overhead personnel are assigned to the fire.

Oh, my goodness, Callie.... I expect surgery is over already but prayers that it works for him. I am not rational about back surgery but know many find it necessary. So lucky my back quit giving me trouble, was a life long problem. I will be thinking of him and prayers that he can live without pain!

Am just now heading to get those razor blades & am kicking myself for not getting out earlier. Do not like going to any store when all the young people are getting off work & stopping by, will be wearing my mask even if I am the only one doing it!  I do clean me up good when I get back to the car, with those Clorox wipes. With as many people catching the new version I am sure they've touched some of the foods in the stores & left germs behind.... will we ever feel safe again?

And tomorrow is Friday!! My brain doesn't cope with short weeks, never did & so much worse now.

Patricia, I had so hoped the rains would slow the fires, very sad they are growing. Do they have any idea how they started, by campers or lightning?

Well, Shirley, if you were 6 feet 8 inches tall and X-rays/MRIs showed deteriorating discs and a slight spine curvature were causing dehabilitating pain from your hip to your ankle - you just might agree that surgeons at the Spine Hospital who had already done four successful back surgeries on your wife work on fixing yours.

Surgery is over and took 2 1/2 hours instead of the 3 to 4 the doctors had thought.  All went well.He is in his room and ready to begin the recovery/recuperation. It will be slow but he hopes to be ready to host a BBQ and pool party by August 27th, his 55th birthday.

I came to check, Callie, and so pleased all went well. Don't blame him for taking what seems the best route, but I do have a yellow streak down my back knowing none of the meds ever work for me. I will say a prayer of thanks (probably more than once) for his complete recovery. Thanks for the update.

Was talking over the fence with my neighbors & was pleased their son that "lives in the boonies" wants the old Birdview satellite dish & all the equipment that goes with it. Just glad to get it out of the way without having strangers come to check it out. Can't believe how hot it is, was going to weed whip some ivy that grows up the brick, when we bought the house it covered the whole garage end of the house & took a while to get rid of it, but it keeps trying to climb & I don't want to use the veg.killer (even tho termite people pumped their stuff all along that wall, every wall)... So I go along with the weed whip & cut it back about knee high every so often. I really wish I could find someone to help but nobody interested in working. Help wanted signs everywhere.

Probably won't be back tonight, am weary. I did get my razor blades & told the sales guy I would bring them back if they weren't sharp. I buy 5 packs at a time so with tax about $28, that pays for a lot of hair cuts when sharp! Now that I can see the back of my head again I would like to do the job right! I've been doing my own haircuts since about 14-15 years old, not nearly as thick or tough to cut as long ago but still grows fast. Needs a trim about every other week. When I used to dye it I had to do every 10 days when I gave up. My hair was black, as black as possible, so by the time it was half ghost white & blue black, it got to be a lot of trouble every 10 days. I brushed the black dye in so I could leave a trace of white... We do what we must, right?

Good night, sweet dreams and God Bless.... and prayers for all.

Hello Everyfriend!  This was a very odd day!  I think a lot of stuff got done but most of it doesn't show.  I made it to Davy's in very light rain and we've had more off and on, hard and light all day.  I think, right now, it's not raining.

Callie, I'm glad your son's surgery went well.  I wish him a speedy recovery and a pain free rest of his life.

My son is 6'3' and he also wears size 13 shoes since high school.  That's a big shoe to trip over!  He was here trying to fix the freezer door on my fridge.  He said he thought it was fixed but he copied down the model number just in case he has to order a new gasket.  It really doesn't close tightly unless I really SLAM it and then it oozes open over a period of time.  Unfortunately, he's leaving for a week's vacation on Sunday and I'm sure a new gasket isn't going to get here before that.

I'm afraid my eyes are entering slam shut mode so I better get the "get ready for bed" things done.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Twas nice here most of the day but in the late afternoon the sky opened. Thunder and heavy rain. 4" in many local places and flooding. Nearby there is a Parkway with several overpasses so cross traffic doesn't hamper the Parkway, with usually a dip under the overpass. These flooded as water couldn't run off fast enough and people trying to drive through got stuck - leaving their cars submerged in water. Rescue vehicles on scene to rescue the drivers.
I have often wondered why people drive through water when they don't know how deep it is.
Hurricane remains due in the morning.

Good morning..

Another day of rain, thankfully no storm last night. The work outside might get done if the rain holds off. If weather doesn't permit outside work there is lots to do inside and I still have to hand sew 2 bindings on quilts.

Shirley, nice that you have someone to get the dish. He will appreciate the dish and you will appreciate it gone. Love your wake up call!

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Up early again, thanks to a fur ball bed baby. I think she started itching because the AC was not running being same temp out as thermostat set on (76°). That is as cool as need be at night (for me) but air gets so still & I don't like the sound of fan being on full time. Anyway, need to get some outside jobs done before too hot so will have breakfast & feed cats while dark. And that's the plan for July 9, 2021.

Rick, we have some low spots like that & one time my youngest son tried to drive thru... in an old Mustang we bought from my parents. Sure was a job getting it all dried out, including brakes, etc. that rusted! Lesson learned, that was about 40 years ago and would you believe that intersection still floods. Not sure what the city expects will fix it if they don't make any effort! Because the water doesn't get deep enough for humans to die it doesn't get attention and I expect the local auto repair places love the business! Is that cynical? Yes! I had to catch my breath as calmly as you mentioned "Hurricane remains due in the morning".

My sons got their small feet from my father... they wear about a 10. Their father wore 11 & 1/2 at 6'2".

Jane, I think I would just sit outside and watch/enjoy a slow rain in July! Usually any summer rain comes with high winds or plain ole storms. Actually, I love to watch storms but hate the clean up from damage they cause.

Sky starting to get lighter so better get a move on. Have a great day, every Friend!

So there you are, Amy! I am relieved to have that big dish removed before it's a MUST DO when I sell the house.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Mickie chose to get up in time to watch Day Break again today.  She started at 4:40 and I held her off until 4:50.  It's still dark around here at 4:50.  But I guess that's ok because no one can see me when I take her out in my jammies.

So far, there's only one thing on the agenda for today and that's paying a few bills.  I'm sure other things will come up but since tomorrow is recycling day and that takes the wind out of my sails, I'm not going to push today.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, misting now but the heavier rain is supposed to start around 10 or so this morning.

SHIRLEY  you and I are alike when we wish for wint er. I rather see snow falling instead of all this rain. Would be grea tif the areas that desperately need rain would get some good rain at last.

CALLIE  most definitely  prayers for your son and anyone with back problems. I wish the best results for him.

I am sitting here falling asleep. Think I have time for a nap before Yvette gets here. Well when she cals from down in the foyer that will wake me up.

Have a good day, keep cool and  on the east coast stay dry.

Rick, Hurricane Elsa turned into Tropical Depression Elsa by the time it got here yesterday so we got a lot of rain here in central NC and some wind but it wasn't as bad as they were expecting.  Rained nearly all day so it was really gloomy.  It flooded in the usual places and some trees went down on power lines over near Durham so a few power outages to be dealt with today but all in all not too bad.  Today is bright and sunny but hot again.  Hope Elsa doesn't hit you as hard as that freaky storm yesterday.

Callie, glad your son came through back surgery OK.   Hope the recovery goes quickly.

David went to pick up groceries so I'll put those away when he gets back.  That is the total of what I plan to do today.

Take care, All.

Good morning from a return to sunny Interior. The Munson fire is still zero percent uncontained, but they've managed to do a few back burns, and the rain had helped. There is a new lightning-caused fire on the border between us and Canada.

Ten fires surround us, all heading in opposite directions from us but only one besides the Munson, over 2500 acres. All the fun of living in an arboreal forest, I suppose. If there's a dry heat, you have fires. But, the three previous rainy summers were dreary and made you miserable.

I still have a few chores for today, but other than that, it is a free day.

Here is the news release from the state forestry department for today. Even with two days of rain, the Munson Creek fire still managed to grow by  11,000 acres.

Start Date: 06/18/2021             Location: 52 miles E of Fairbanks, AK

Cause: Lightning                       Fire Size: 36,609 acres

Containment: 0%                    Total Personnel: 206

Fire crews have identified, triaged, and placed sprinkling equipment where needed on more than 70 structures along Chena Hot Springs Road or at Chena Hot Springs Resort and four more along the Middle Fork Chena River to keep them safe from the 36,609-acre Munson Creek Fire. No structures have been damaged or destroyed. The fire surrounded but did not burn the State Parks trail shelter on the Angel Rocks to Chena Hot Springs Trail.

Our fairgrounds and numerous playground and ballpark areas are full of evacuated people in motorhomes, trucks, cars, or vans. Farm animals and larger pets are stabled at the fairgrounds. It's still zero percent contained, which is a surprise for me. Thirty people refused to leave the area and signed papers to that effect, and that they stayed against the official evacuation orders, which are still in effect.

https://akfireinfo.com/2021/07/09/reconnaissance-flight-around-munson-creek-fire-shows-varying-degrees-of-burn-intensity/

Not much else going on here. I repotted several plants & concluded that three, my lucky bamboo, my money tree, and my shamrock, are not doing their job. However, I guess I'll keep them as they are large and have grown well in the past three years.   ::)   All my plants are on two shelves of a well-barricaded eight-foot shelving unit as Farrah does enjoy her greens.   :knuppel2:

My goal this year was to cure my procrastination. I have an undated planner with stickers and discovered two forgotten hardbound books on my bookshelves on Achieving Your Goals in 100 Days. And the Ultimate Goal-Setting Planner. Both have never been written in. The planner was set up for June of last year, and my stated goals on my Keep app from 2017 are my goals today. It seems that my procrastination habit is both stronger and smarter than the rest of me...

I just saw that some heavy black clouds have come over the mountains, so perhaps if they veer east instead of the current southwest direction, they may have some effect on the fire as long as there isn't any lightning. I just heard some thunder, so we shall see. Which is worse, or should I say stronger, purple or black storm clouds?

I realized this morning that our three main festivals and parades have not occurred since the summer of 2019. Last year the 2020 state fair was canceled. Besides store sales, the only Solstice event was homegrown music acts and one or two streets of classic cars. I'd be hopeful of the summer of 2022, but we're still going strong with two separate Covid variants and new cases.

The salmon and the bears are back at the Katmai River Falls.

Well, Patricia, I've been sitting here giggling at your procrastinating about fixing your flaw of procrastination.... I suffer from the same flaw. I have all kinds of books & notebooks my daughter has given me to fix the problem, right now I'm procrastinating about even thinking about it. So be it & that'll go on with the same ambitious mind. Happy to see someone out there understands!

Only thing I really accomplished today was I cleaned out my purse. Well, it is a large tote my daughter gave me that LV swears the handles will hold up to 400 lbs!  Haha, it's not quite to the max but a bottomless pit.

I also mixed up some chicken salad to go with the meat spread & sent along a couple of ears of corn, cleaned & ready to microwave, a few tomatoes, bag of mini donuts & some reading material for my kids returning from Vail & headed to Branson, MO for the next week. They do work hard & deserve to have something dropped in their lap to make them smile.

All cats are snuggled down for the night, I'm not pleased that Tom chose my bedroom, Tiger is sitting on the chair beside me & Callie in her garage. I figured Tom headed to my room to hide from a storm but radar showing nothing. But, had a tornado warning scrolling TV & now T storms in northwest KS. Not catching the exact location so will quit trying to multi-task. I'm blaming the problem on COVID, not age... but I used could do half a dozen things at the same time & never miss a beat. And I used to could dance all night & be at school on time next morning. Someday I will realize I am OLD!

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Shirley

Good morning..

Despite rain being called for yesterday we didn't get it. We worked outside most of the day, cleaning up some lilacs that had taken over .Looking good out there now and the bird feeders(I have a few) are much easier to see and get at to fill. Still more work to be done but all in good time. We are loading up all the bags and limbs to take to the dump when it opens.

Procrastination? Are you sure your not just thinking of a better way to do the job?? That's my excuse. :2funny:

Better make the most of today as the next 4 days are to bring rain. We have black mulch to lay down along the fence after a garden cloth goes down. Trees that I put in when we first moved here have taken off like a house on fire. The flowering crab (ok Patricia? ) tree was a gift from a friend and it is beautiful in the Spring ,feeds the birds in the Fall and real messy to clean up next Spring.  We do have Mountain Ash that the birds enjoy come fall too.

Patricia, loved the video and I am going to pass it on to others to enjoy. Thank you.

Better find my git up and go.......seems to be in hiding lately.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, boy did we get rain yesterday morning but by mid afternoon it stopped snd about 4:30 the sun came out and it got hot again. Last night we  had a thunderstorm and more rain. I think the ground is happy but people aren't.

LLOYD  I never minded having teeth out but the last one was bad.Got infected and I ended up in the hospital from too many antibiotics. I will never let that dentist put her little finger in my mouth again.Hope you feel better today.

PHYLLIS  there was flooding in the places that always flood here. That area has always flooded when it rains. Those who built there always complain and now want the government to buy them out. They knew it flooded when they built. Like out west building in a dry river bed. There could be a flash flood when they get rain and get washed away.

PATRICIA  there was a fire in San Diego several years ago and my daughter and SIL had to evacuate. Her faither in law who lived next door refused to leave but he had  too. He had lived there for more tha n 50 years and never had to before. He had to and was not happy. Luckily there was a new freeway being built up at the end of their road and all that dirt in a wide area stopped the flames so their road was saved.

JANE  you did accomplish something yesterday even if it did not show.

SHIRLEY  we have thunderstorms in the forecast for today again.

SHIRLEY  just be glad you can do things and still move around. I would love to be able to do half of what I did just a few years ag o. Now with this darn back mos t of what I can do is sit here  or lay on the couch most of the day. Cannot walk at all without the rollator and cannot stand at the stove to cook anything. I do not like being waited on.

AMY  we did get the  rain and then a Tstorm last night with more rain.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's not raining here today but, so far, the sun isn't shining either.  That's OK with me because it made my run to the recycling center easier.  I've been there and back and Mickie had her walk and we both had breakfast.  Now I'm checking in here and then getting a shower and getting ready to go with Cathy to the Mennonite store!

I managed to drag my big bag of weeds over to the car but as I stood there with the trunk open, I knew there was no way I was going to be able to lift that bag into my car trunk!  So I just dragged it out of the way and took the smaller bucket to recycle.  I'm not sure what to do about the big bag because anyone who is available to help me get it in the car, isn't available Saturday morning.  And I sure don't want a wet bag of weeds in my car for an extended period of time.  The smell would be awful!  And I sure don't want to root around in a bag of wet, dirty weeds to make manageable size containers.  Any suggestions?

I don't talk about "procrastination!  I tell everyone that I have the "Scarlett" syndrome.  You know..."I'll think about that tomorrow!"  I think she had the right idea!

Nice to "see" all of you!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Sorry ,couldn't resist that... :2funny:

Good morning, another sunny day for the Interior, even if yesterday's sunny day ended with a quick drenching. I noticed this morning that even though the sun started setting about midnight, there was still a good-sized rim of bright colors after 2 AM. I was up with a good book, and I kept thinking, just one more chapter, so I was up very late, and that will punish me sometime today.

Amy, I may have to adopt Scarlet's motto as well!   I don't think I'll adopt your gardening aesthetic; however, "The flowering crap tree, was a gift from a friend, and it is beautiful in the Spring, feeds the birds in the Fall, and real messy to clean up next Spring." Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Good morning Lloyd!

Gloria, I can't see anyone refusing to leave when a fire is heading your way or another natural disaster. Some people rebuild in floodplains and Anchorage, rebuilt in Earthquake park just a few years after people died there, hence the name.

I'm finding more and more that I can't do some things. For example, climbing up into a city bus or walking for any length of time. I'm having to be really patient with myself and parceling out the chores for when I have the most energy in a day.

Jane, I have more going to the trash or donation table these days, but the building has some rolling carts in the lobby for resident's usage. The problem lies in finding one in peak times!

My ex-brother-in-law used to do something similar with his garbage, Amy. They lived outside of town,  and after they burned the important papers in their woodstove, he would box it up nicely, put a fictitious address on it and leave it in the back of his pickup while he was in town. Invariably, when he returned, his garbage was gone.

I find it ironic that I was marked down for excessive comma use in all my school classes. Now, my Grammarly editor puts them back in!

Haha, Jackie, right on the dot!  :2funny:

Amy, you are SO ornery! Fantastic idea, just make sure the bag is tied tight so they can't see what's inside where you live & dump it out!

Gloria, at least you've had the good sense to move to a place that does take care of the major upkeep of yard & building. You'd think I did ALL the work around here with all my griping. This past year all my un-done jobs are showing up & can't hide them anymore. Can close only so many doors & what's crammed behind those closed doors is growling every time I push something else in. It's the cats fault.... really, it is.  :-\

Lloyd, I sympathize with you about having to give up the flip phone.... I don't like cell phones anyway & so much I don't understand about these "smart" ones. I don't mind using them when I am not in town but they sure are nice when my "land line" phones are out! My kids use their phones for everything from shopping to talking & "navigation".... mine isn't that smart, at least I don't understand their directions.

I'm not having much luck with my gardening this year, the lettuce went to seed too fast & the tomatoes were supposed to be great big & so far about the size of a ping pong ball. The egg shells Amy recommended have stopped the bottoms from rotting and what little is left after cutting the bottoms off is hardly a mouth full, but they are sweet!

I am washing my bedding right now, usually wait until early morning or late-late evening to not use power during peak times.... but early & late isn't working so well, I crash. Don't remember a year when I didn't open windows/sliding doors & have the house cooler but the AC is running 24/7 this summer. Even if the thermometer says cooler out the humidity is higher. Whine-whine

And now it's time to think lunch... My breakfast was about 3:30am, I did go back to bed for an hour & half, but no work done so far. I'm starting to think I am just plain lazy & using AGE as an excuse. Tom was in my room last night & thought it time to go out about 3:00am & I stalled him for a while & gave up, we came in to eat & the day crazy since.

I understand the hours you keep, Patricia, been my way of life since Cas died. I just get up or go to bed when it works out best. This week I am running short on sleep, tho. I do take naps whenever it feels right, but invariably the phone rings & it's one of those robo calls so can't even yell at them!

Day is flying by!!! On the way back home a huge mink ran in front of us...beautiful animal!! No bears at the dump today but one of them said that the older bears were there the other day.

Shirley, porch pirates will take anything I have heard folks putting out their kitty little or even dirty diapers and found them missing the next day......you steal..you reap the consequences in my book.

Patrica, all winter long the wild birds will hammer at the crabapples and oh my they are messy eaters so a clean up is due in the Spring. :)

Chicken breasts have been vacuumed packed and put away just need to bring the laundry in off the line....then...

Amy, what caught my attention was using the word crap and not crab.

"The flowering crap tree was a gift from a friend and it is beautiful in the Spring ,feeds the birds in the Fall and real messy to clean up next Spring.  We do have Mountain Ash that the birds enjoy come fall too."

Thanks for the note from Michael, Patricia.... and LLOYD, remember, it isn't YOUR fault if you can't get in while he is working on this!!!  ;D

Patricia, thank you for pointing that out.. :2funny:  One does enjoy the beauty of the blossoms and then the birds have something to eat when heading south for winter.. Crow just came by and beat the starling to a chunk of fat. Staring wasn't happy about that and chased the crow.......while two old crows sat on the verandah having tea  watching .

Is it time to go to bed yet?

This day started at the crack of dawn and this is the first time I haven't had to "get ready to go" since the day started.  First the recycling, then the Mennonite store and then Cathy took me to the local mall to look for a certain knitting needle, some yarn and new towels.  I haven't done that much in a day in years!  But I got everything I was looking for plus a couple things I wasn't looking for!

Now I'm plumb wore out!

And now I have those new towels to wash!  And Mickie has an "I have to go out NOW" problem again.

It MUST be time to go to bed!

the tomatoes were supposed to be great big & so far about the size of a ping pong ball

Try some next year along with your egg shells.

Lettuce will bolt and go to seed fast, sow a little at a time . If you is still in the trug, cut it off leave about an inch and it will regrow.

A good Saturday afternoon HELLO to all.

We have been cleanings most of the day and we are DONE IN, but not done‼️‼️  Yesterday afternoon our A/C went out, so it is bareable in here, but just barely!  They were to be here around one, but the time keeps getting pushed out...now it is 5:30.  I am just hoping they don't cancel on us😩😡

We are taking care of BOTH grand doodle doggies.  Oliver is here until Tuesday as his mom and dad are out of town, and Lola, Dr. Dave's is here just today and overnight and then she goes home.  They do not seem to be minding the temp in here, thank goodness.

I have to admit I belong in the procrastinator club!  I never used to be this way.....but now I sure am!  AMY, I have tried to appease myself at times by saying "I am sure I will do a better job later", but truth is, it is just another excuse!!

JACKIE, I like your poem!  Did you get your safety bars installed or the ramp?

WOW JANE, no wonder you are tuckered out....what a busy day.  Sleep well😴

PATRICIA,thank you for the heads up from Michael.

The last up date for repair person was 6:04 and it is 6:12.....PLEASE 🥵
PLEASE 🥵 don't pass us up!

Have a good evening.

Around 4 I decided I'd take a little snooze until Frankie came by to pick up Cooper.  So Mickie and I snuggled up on the sofa and Cooper took over the recliner and we zonked.  When I woke up, both dogs wanted out so we went and when I came back in and looked at the clock it was 6:15.  I must have slept soundly for 2 hours!  And I did feel better.

We all had supper, I cleaned up after it, Frankie came by for Cooper and Mickie and I took our evening walk.   Then I picked up my knitting needles and turned on the TV.  This sure was an eventful day!  But all went well and a lot was accomplished.  The new towels are in the dryer and two other loads of wash are dry, folded and put away.

And now I'm heading for the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

JENNY, I hope your A/C is fixed!

Jenny...told 2 weeks once they get confirmation it is ok to fit them from the people i am renting from...

*********************************

Just typical, my first time gardening duo today has been cancelled, now having to re-book for Tuesday but i am due a refund from a Sundays more pricier charge i had already paid for 2 weeks ago...at least i can now go to my church as they were to come 4-5.30pm...my church is at 4-5pm today which is every other Sunday....Not bad really from a large gardening company, i received two emails this morning one hour apart, one reminding me they are coming, the second telling me my booking has been cancelled...so much for reliability...and to a new first time customer...i am not impressed with them..

******************************************
Jenny-Shirley, glad you both enjoyed the poem but, you do realise it was not my poem dont you, i am not that clever...

Yes, Jackie, but you were clever enough to FIND it.... and I am one that always thinks, "I know I have something that relates but WHERE is it?"

Can't blame cats for waking early this time, I got 5 min shy of 5 hours sleep so think that's my limit. I will fill my tummy and body will want to go back to bed but think I'll dress & go to the early Mass I usually go to. Part of my Sunday group is out of town so texted the other family that  joins me & explained I may sleep in, got a reply that they might do the same. I have to hit the road running Monday because mowers need to be here early & I have to unlock gates, then the usual shower & wash hair before the routine Dr visit for Echo. Doesn't take much to throw my lazy life off balance!

Amy, you are so smart about gardening! Fantastic link & it does explain why I should use those Epsom salt treatments since my tomatoes have all the bad symptoms! I had forgotten that a professional flower grower for downtown bank once told me Epsom salt was their secret cure for the gorgeous hanging baskets her crew took care of. Good stuff, those Epsom salts! Thank you, send bill for advice!

Better open door for cats to come for breakfast or will not get to church on time. I always wonder what they do when out all night, they don't stray much when light out. Tom won't even go out front in daylight, but Tiger will. Callie still thinks SHE owns the neighborhood & visits across the street or anywhere I go. My life, not very interesting but works for me. I have some new chigger bites because I forgot to put my baby oil/B-1 on when out in the yard, just ONE time & those itchies are driving me nuts.

Jane, I need some new towels, used to give Cas my old ones for rags "when they reached a certain stage"... Then he started buying those bundles of shop towels so I kept my nice soft rags for furniture polishing but haven't done that as often as I used to. Lazy me...

Have a Super Sunday, hope the weather is tolerable where ever you live!

Good morning...

Very quiet out there this morning and muggy!  There may be a chance to use the Rescue Remedy on Babe as they are calling to storms  till Thurs!.

A day of rest here, may try to get some photos of the trugs and I want to get one of the neighbour and her potatoes! She may have to hold a stick.flag, something up, as you won't see her. Her potatoes have done well for her.

Jenny, oh boy doodle days at your home. Our friend has a golden doodle and she is so smart. Beautiful dog.

Lloyd, amen to that statement on common sense!! I am finding driving one has to look out for everyone as the other drivers are playing on the phones etc. Don't forget respect as they have also misplaced that. Life is fun, you just have to make your own and share it with others.

Shirley, Epson salts seems to have a lot of good be it in the garden or in the home. One learns all these little tricks in the garden through others that have gleaned the ideas from others. Same with farming, different ways to cure illness in the barn from others that have had the same problems.

Patricia, are you getting the smoke from your fires or the ones from BC? My friend sent me a video of a chopper picking up a bucket of water  for the fires in her area.

Jane, that was a good power nap!! You must have needed it or you wouldn't have slept.

Better get ready to take these guys out.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

The sun is finally peeking through the fog.  I would rather it stay cloudy but Mother Nature doesn't care about my "rathers".  The humidity is so high that even in the house, with the AC running nearly non-stop, I feel like wilted lettuce.  My mother always told me to stop wishing my life away but, right now I do wish it was October....can't help it, Mother.   :-[

I have no idea what today will bring.  I haven't even thought about what to have for dinner.  I guess that when the time comes I'll think of something.

Take care, All.

Good morningGood Afternoon Everfriend!  I've already been busy this morning.  I'm just about ready to go out in the kitchen and make some sweet potato french fries in the Air Fryer.  I sweet potatoes that need to be used up and I like sweet potato french fries.

I didn't sleep well last night.  Mickie has the trots again and she races for the door when that happens.  I'm glad about that but I sure to have to wake up fast and it's really hard to get back to sleep after that.  She seems better this morning.  I guess we'll see.  I wish I could explain to her that eating that stuff off the ground will upset her stomach!

I'm not doing much of anything today because yesterday wore me to a frazzle!  And the frazzles are still hanging around!

I'm just doing the stuff that comes up....if I feel like it!

I hope you are all having a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, if you have any Pepto Bismol it may help.

Pepto-Bismol Dosage For Dogs: The recommended dosage is 1 teaspoon for every 10 pounds, according to Dr. Klein. It can be offered to the dog every 6-to-8 hours, but if your dog still has diarrhea after a few doses, stop the medication and call your veterinarian.

I had a horse that also had this problem and the vet gave me a GALLON of this liquid......said if any left to use it in the house as it was Pepto Bismol!!

Amy, no smoke presently as the winds are mild and blowing in other directions. We're to have two or three days of cool but mild weather, so hopefully, that will have some effect on the Munson fire.

The one we show straddling the Canadian border and Alaska is called the "The Windfall Mountain Overwinter."  Other than it's almost contained, any other information is sparse. We are down from ten surroundings, that's to say within one hundred miles of our city, to eight fires.

And we are the designated flood or fire evacuation site if needed. A few besides the Munson fire folks have arrived. The Forestry Department doesn't feel a need to update their site until mid-afternoon daily, and I haven't found a better site for information.

I just received an update that our cool and mild days are coming to an end as Monday's high will be 81°. I feel sorry for your BC friend as smoke is not only unsightly but dangerous to people and animals. As we do, I'm sure they have places to go if the smoke is overwhelming to get some relief, even if momentary.

Shirley, an idea for those old towels is using them in cat beds or donating to a local animal organization or shelter.

Lloyd keep thinking, "This too shall pass."

Good morning, Phyllis! I remember living in the South, primarily Texas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I don't think I would want to live through another wet, syrupy summer as they can have!

Thanks, Amy, for the quiz, and I emailed you my answers. Remember the different time zones in waiting for answers as I remember one who expressed disappointment and closed her quiz within a few hours.

I'm not one to root for fall as we barely have a summer and an Artic winter isn't fun if you're not prepared and not an outdoor enthusiast! I rather enjoy going outside without adding extra layers!

Jane, enjoy your day of somewhat leisure! You've earned about a month or two of those!  I have some sweet potatoes, so I might also make some fries. Except I do mine in the oven.

You can also give cats Pepto Bismol, but I would want a separate supply for me!

I'm hoping that everyone's day is a good one! Where is Gloria? I hope she's having fun with Yvette!

From EURO News;

"Belgian scientists on Sunday reported that an elderly woman had died from COVID-19 after being infected with the Alpha and Beta variants at the same time.

"This is one of the first documented cases of co-infection with two variants of concern of SARS-CoV-2," molecular biologist Anne Vankeerberghen, author of the study released by the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID), said in an accompanying statement.

The 90-year-old woman died in March after being admitted to a hospital in the Belgian town of Aalst following several falls. She was not vaccinated against COVID-19 and tested positive for the disease on arrival but "a good level of oxygen saturation and no signals of respiratory distress."

However, she "rapidly developed worsening respiratory symptoms and died five days later," the statement said."

Something to think about if you're delaying vaccinations.

Thanks Amy. I'm on a decluttering break.

This is my fifth annual declutter, toss and clean summer. While I'm actually cleaning and disposing of stuff I've stored away since I moved in, some pockets are aggravating.

One is stuffed animals. While I've never gone in for the usual, (six-foot Snufflelupagus anyone)? They're generally stored in a large plastic tote in my walk-in closet. Each year, I open it, look them over and close it again.

Two was my costume jewelry from 2013 and back when I dressed the corporate style at various positions. My actual jewelry is in a safe deposit box, what very little there is of it, but I have several stone, shell, or metal pieces that I'll never wear again but can't seem to part with. Why do I have six sports watches when I never wear them?

Three and Four are blazers, and nice scarves to go with those blazers. Again, why? It's not as if I'll wear them again. In 2016, I donated most of my work wardrobe and all of my heels to a place that provides clothing for those seeking interviews and work clothing but cannot as yet afford them. These pieces I couldn't get rid of then and seemingly not now.

The dumbest part of today is so banal that there is a hoary old joke about it. I don't wear my glasses for close-up work, so I often sit them on a table if I'm on the computer or reading. You guessed it, I spent a while searching for them when I was ready to vacuum, only to discover I was wearing them!   :-[   ::)

While this is something I would normally have finished in January or February, you know how that went. So far,  last week through today, I've done the five shelving units, repotted and regrouped plants, and kitchen, bath, hallway walk-in, coat closet, and bedroom. The remainder is my living room which is my office area, furniture and dusting, and vacuuming. And that's it for another year. Each year it gets whittled further down.

I blame all this on my mother, and it's ingrained. She died before decluttering was a thing. This was something we all had to do twice a year. She called it a deep cleaning.

We're getting the promised storm right now and earlier.  We've had two mini showers and now a multi one with thunder and lightning and heavy rain but it's already stopping.  There was a tornado warning issued but all we got so far was thunder and lightning.  It's still raining but the thunder is off in the distance.  And the heavy winds didn't come yet either.

I have to tell you all...  The other day at Davy's, a really nice thing happened to me.  I got to the checkout and I didn't have my bank card.  I was searching for it a second time and I had asked the girl if I could leave the basket while I went home for the card.  She said yes and that I could return the ice cream to the freezer until I came back.  The next thing I knew, she was thanking me and handing me a receipt.  I said, "I don't understand".  And she answered "He paid for it", and indicated a gentleman in the line behind me.  I looked around at him and shook my head.  He waved, smiled and nodded!  I thanked him and left the store in tears!  Thank you was not enough!  I wrote a letter to the editor and it was in today's paper.  I hope he saw it!  I cried all the way home and I have tears whenever I think of it!  I've seen this happen in my checkout line at WM often and I've smiled every time but I never expected it to happen to me!

If I already told you all that, just ignore it.  I don't remember who I've told!

And I'm signing of for the day!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane S...just a thought but, is it possible this man recognised you from the check-out store YOU once worked in, he may have been a customer of yours, and perhaps you had made some conversation to him that just happened to make HIS day, he may have remembered you and is now paying back with kindness...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Thank you for the nice comments.  JACKIE, I never thought of that!  If that's so, what a nice thought!

It's time for Mickie's walk and she's more than ready.  I think her problem is on the way out.  I guess I'll find out!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning..

Another day with no rain??? I think I will water the garden and know it gets a drink. Lots of little jobs to do outside then work in home. Dogs are losing hair and I can sweep up another dog in hair.

Patricia, I also have stuffed animals.....in bags. At times I will go through them ,take some out and give them to the Sally Ann to find new homes. Guess you could say I am weaning my way with them. I did hear from my friend in BC and so far so good. Hope it stays that way but there are a lot of fires burning.

Gloria, hope to hear from you today..

Jane, hope that Mickie is fine and the problem gone! The man I told about the Remedy is picking his bottle up today. Giggling here.....that reminds me of Granny Clampett and her bottle of Remedy !

Better get ready...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, well not too nice here, pouring again. We have had few sunny days this month. Microsoft did it again :( They did an updat e Saturday night that I did not want but they did it anyway and it took me most of yesterday to get things right again. I hate that they arrange or get rid of what  I want on the task bar and the icons I keep on the desktop. At least this time I did not have to as my grandson to come and fix it. Glad I watch what he does on here.  I am running my anti spyware now again. Every time Microsoft messes me up and I run this progran I end up with at least 200 things to delete. I run it most days and usuallhave none or 3-4 at the most. Grr, I am not a happy person woth Microsoft. No wonder my oldest son got himself a Mac. I would think about that but at my age why spend all the money.

SHIRLEY  my family insisted I get a smart phone. When I was without Skype awhile back because of Microsoft I used the Facetime to talk to my daughter every day. I have a hard time hearing anyone on that phone, maybe I don't hold it right?

AMY  My son has crab apple trees sca ttered in the orchard and wheen they were ripe  their las t dog would go an d take them off the trees and eat them She loved apples.

JANE  I would love to get out for a day with my daughter looking for clothes. She was always great for giving me an honest opinion how things looked on me. Now I get new things from catalogs aand no t everything fits good. If I got the size to fit right with my shoulders I would not be able to get them on so every thing looks like a bag on me.

JENNY  I wou ld die in here without my AC. That or go down to the lobby or communit y room and sit on one of the couches all day-or lay down to nap. I am sure the witch would frown on that.

JACKIE  nice seeing you posting here again.

LLOYD  I know I have not  learned much of anything new in a long time bu t I did manage to get my computer back where I want  it  after Microsoft did an upda te I did not want. Sure glad I watch my granson when he is here to work on it.

PHYLLIS  looks like you and Shirley and me are the ones looking forward to the cooler temperatures of the autumn season. Give me winter anyday over hot and humid summer.

Wiith so many having an air fryer I think I could use one. Any one brand is best and for just me I guess it would be a small one?

Be tt er get a move on. Forgot  wha t time Yve tte will be here  today and I waant to get dressed before she gets here. I will no t be here tomorrow, doct or appointment and Thursday a dentist one. T omorrow Y. has one with the surgeon who will do her knee. Will be glad seeing her again on Friday.

Have a good day and keep dry if you are in the path of all this rain.

Gloria, we were to get 4 days of rain here and nothing yet!! A/c is going strong .  These guys won't eat apple...Golden girl did but Sassy would lay on her belly picking the beans and eating them. We give these two a variety of vegetables to try and they really love Brussel sprouts!

Monday passed much too quickly for me as it is already tome for dinner.

Poor Farrah, you had a bad day and needed to hid in a pillow? How cute💞

JANE, what a nice heart warming story about the man paying for your groceries at Davy's.  I agree, it could not happen to a more deserving lady😘

PATRICIA, we have a lot of smoke here on the front range due to all the fires in the west. Watching the National news tonight is frightening to see the size of some of the fires.

AMY, how surprising and sweet to read that your puppy doggies love Brussel Sprouts. Had to chuckle at your suggestion to give dogs/cats (PATRICIA says) and horses Pepto Bismol.  Happy to read you enjoyed time with your family after 16 months😍 I bet those grands really had grown just like Jessie‼️  WE found out yesterday that the  Dr. Dave Family will be getting a mini Golden Doodle the end of next month.  Michele and Kate put money down to get a puppy, but it had to be cancelled due to Michele's condition.  Now a new litter is available.  I think Dave is a little ugh over taking on a puppy, but you know it will be cute😘

GLORIA, I bought a fairly inexpensive air fryer at Costco and we love it.  No too big of one but a good size for us.

I did not hear from the surgery scheduler today, so will call her again tomorrow as I want to get this painful shoulder replaced ASAP. 😩😩

I wish you all a good evening and a good night of rest.

Jenny

Hello Everyfriend!  The day has come to an end and I'm thankful for that.  I had a trip to the dentist and he pulled a tooth that's been giving me problems in addition to the fact that it was very loose.  I spent the rest of the day chewing on gauze and looking for things I could eat around the sore spot.

Thank you, JENNY for the kind words.  I will never forget that day or that nice gentleman.  A new doggie in the family will help the kids think of something else while they miss their MOM!

I'm off to the haystack now.  The zzzzs are calling my name and I'm ready to meet them and let them do their thing.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Oh boy it is humid, air is on but not enough......will be in a minute!

Kyle is happy, he is getting his hair cut, Barber shops are now open! Will pick up some quilts on our way and then home. Neighbour is looking after the dogs for us.. even though we won't be gone all that long.

Jenny, a new puppy is just what is needed, yes they are a lot of work but also a lot of love bundled into that little body. Enjoy!

Jane, hope your mouth feels better this morning.

Better get my town duds on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, glad I woke ea rly  this morning. The fire ala rm sys tem in  this building will be tes ted  this morning at  8. I would not like  to be awakened  by  that loud noise.  They do this every year bu t mostly la te mornings. Wednesday is the day the landscapers are here and start a t 7. Between the mowers and leaf blowers i don' t know which is louder.

Had an Amber aler t about  a car crook. A man wit h his li ttle baby in the car bed in the back seat wen t into a st ore and lef t the baby in t he car and he lef t the keys in it  and he lef t it  running. Someone helped himself to t he car. A policeman found t he car and baby a mile away and every thing ended good but tha t fa ther must  have been in for a lect ure from the baby's Mom and  the police, too. He should be lect ured for doing such a stupid thing.

JANE  wow you a re  the only one I know  tha t was on  the receiving end of  tha t " pay it  forward" for your groceries.

AMY  I wold send some of t his rain to you or out west if I could. A day of sunshine would be so nice about now. I like Brussel sprout s, too. Not  many seem to like them. I can make a meal out of different vegetables and no meat  and enjoy it.

JENNY  how I wish I had my left shoulder replaced. Was all se t to go every thing booked and 2 days before  the insurance I had =United Health=dropped the grou p and they refused to pay for something booked. I cannot afford that amount. My right  one s till feels grea t. Uni ted Heal th did me dir ty a second time,  too.  They dropped me wi th no reason and no explana tion. I wen t to pick up some meds at the pharmacy to have them  tell me I was no longer covered. I even called them to find ou t why and said my  name was no t in their files. I had  them for 20 years and paid ahead every few months. I still had 2 months paid when  they dropped me.

JANE  good luck with finding somet hing soft  to ea t and keep away from where the t ooth was.

AMY  I can believe Kyle is glad to get his hair cut a t las t. My DIL cut mine a week ago and i t is now off my neck again.

Hello to everyone who comes in lat er.

Have a good day and keep cool and dry.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept well last night and Mickie did her usual and got me up a couple minutes before 5 a.m.  I think I finally got smart.  When we come back in, she gets a treat and I get the sofa for an hour...sometimes more.  Cooper is here for the dayand he's an "In-again-out-again-Finnegan".  He's no more than in and he wants out again.  He doesn't seem to mind the heat.  I keep asking him if he's trying to roast or fry out there.

My tooth place doesn't hurt at all but I've been chewing on the other side so long it's become a natural.  I think I minded the shots more than the removal.

That guy that left the baby in the car must not have a brain in his head.  And then to leave the keys there, too.  Well, I suppose without a brain, he couldn't think either!  I bet he got HOLY HECK from his wife!

My only plan for today is a trip to the drug store and a quick stop at Davy's.  I forgot the yogurt.  And that's all I'm getting this time.

Of course, I'm sure those things that have been neglected around here with raise their heads and demand attention.  I cleaned the beets that Christy sent me yesterday and I'm planning to fry them for supper.  I wonder how they'd be in the Air Fryer.  I'll have to check that out!

GLORIA, enjoy Yvette's visit.  I'm sure you will.  She must be a real GEM!

If Frankie works early tomorrow, I have a feeling she'll be spending the night here.  It's easier for her if she doesn't have to bring Cooper in the morning.

I talked to my son's buddy who does all kinds of painting and we're set up for painting my living room, dining room, kitchen and hall as soon as the weather cools enough to have the windows open.

The weather is still "iffy" around here.  We're supposed to get rain again this afternoon but the high temp is only supposed to be 84...not too bad.  And we still need the rain.  I haven't needed my grass mowed for three weeks.  He checks in on Monday and tell him "yes or no".  I like this guy!  In the summer, he brings help....a 15 year old son...with him.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning, and not much else to say that hasn't been said in my other posts. The smoky and dry, hot temperatures have returned.

I enjoyed reading all your posts this morning. Yesterday a friend talked about the car ahead of her paying for her meal, so she paid for the one behind. Besides wondering quite how that worked, I thought it was a nice gesture and had to tell her about you, Jane, kindness should be passed along, and the world would be a better and happier place.

We are back! Beat the rain but I
hope it will gently rain for the rest of the day. City was busy, rather go early get in and get out but the time couldn't be helped.  When Kyle came out of the barber shop and sat in the vehicle I grabbed him by the arm and said Shhh don't tell my husband but I am taking you home with me!! He likes his hair neat but in this lock down one had to make do.
We picked up the quilts and chatted for a bit then off to do a bit of shopping for a tablet, mine has all but given up the ghost.
Kyle picked up some lumber and home we came. On the way there was a  doe showing her twins off and I sure hope she took them into the woods away from the highway.

We have gone through a drive through only to be told our order has been paid for......nice  feeling and we have done it for others also.

Jane, our beets need a thinnin so let me know how they turn out in the air fryer.

It's thundering and pouring out there right now.  It started just when I was about to take Mickie out for her last go.  She's all recovered from her recent problem but now there's a small bottle of Pepto Bismal in the bathroom cupboard waiting for the next time.

AMY, I didn't do the beets in the air fryer.  I did them in the electric fry pan and they were very good.  I have enough for another meal and I might try the air fryer the next time.

If anyone knows a good way to get burned on sugary stuff off a glass top range, I'd be happy to hear it.  I've tried 3 different things so far and none of them even made a dent in it!

I have to get to bed.  My eyes are in slam shut and my body is in shutdown!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Well, the clouds rumbled and roared last night and oh boy did it rain. Our power flickered some but didn't go out as those to the east of us. Today is blood work then home to  chase dust bunnies.

Jane, I gave Babe the Rescue last night and I do think it did help some. She wasn't as bad when we have had other storms .Thank you for telling me about the Remedy. Have you tried leaving a wet, not just damp but wet cloth over it? First sprinkle some baking soda then a little Dawn dish soap and leave it over night. Do you have a razor edged scraper? They work also.

Gloria, I too like vegetables and parsnips are at the top of the list.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend....and especially AMY because you're already here!

Thanks for the suggestion.  One of my other ones was baking soda and vinegar and a wet cloth.  It did nothing.  Dawn might make a difference.  I'll try.

We had rain (heavy) most of the night and it was still pretty wet this morning when we went out.  But the worst part was a really HEAVY fog!  Something interesting...when I warned Frankie about not turning her lights up and told her why and that my dad had given me the warning when I was a learner, she grinned all over her face and said, "You must have passed that on to my Mom because that's exactly what she told me".  Nice to know "what comes around, goes around".

I'm off to answer the call of "things to do".  First off is to clean off my desk!  Then I'm going to put some recipes in the permanent book!  Then whatever pokes it head up will get done.  Some cleaning, for sure!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, we have peasoup fog here this morning. I need some sunshine to perk me up, these overcast and rainy days are getting to me. At leas t we missed the rain when my son took me to the doctor's office. I have been going to her 4 years now and  this is t he firs t time I was kept wai ting in the wai ting room for half an hour. I was getting ready to walk out when I was called in. I don't think I was in there 15 minutes. Seemed like her mind was not on the job at all. Anyway no change in meds and no tests but she hardly listened to me. Maybe she got up on the wrong side of the bed or is  tired of this weather.

JACKIE  that man deserves more than a lecture. When they passed ooout brains he must have said no because he thought it was pains angel said.

JANE  wit h all t his humidity maybe Cooper is  trying to boil or simmer in it? Wonder  if tha t man did no t wan t the baby and was t hinking someone would steal  tha t poor 6 month old boy. The keys were in the ignit ion and the car was running, what an invitation that  was. Yvette is great  at knowing what needs doing and I never have to say anything. With her knees bothering her lately I want her to sit down but she insis ts she is OK. Today she has an appointment about her first knee replacement. We are 4 inches above the usual rain for July. Had more than 5 inches as of yesterday and the month is just half over. Never heard of fried beets, I do like pickled ones.

PATRICIA  PAYING FOR SOMEONE BEHIND YOU IS CALLED PASSING IT ON. Oops cap lock was on again. Can you tell I am not a touch ty pis t, have to look a t the keyboard  to type.

AMY  always grea t feeling to get haircut and look good again. Did Kyle laugh at wha t you said when he came out of the barber shop?

JANE  have you tried baking soda and vinegar? Let it sit awhile and it works great for me. I never meassure how much for ei ther. Original Dawn and vinegar is supposed to work good, too, never tried that yet.

Better get dressed and ready for a CNA sub again. I really dislike ge tting a different one every  time Yvette is out. Most are y oung and new to the job and do not want to do anything but sit and talk. I do not let them get away with that. They are paid to work so that  is what I have them do.

Have a good day and stay dry if  you can with all this rain. If it is dry where you live I hope you get some rain soon.

Good morning from a cool 53° Interior. We hit 83° yesterday and are expecting the same today. Isn't it an anomaly to be in the eighties and have it be cool and dry?

That's what the weather folks tell us. The Munson fire is sixteen percent contained yesterday due to less humidity and diligent forestry and hotshot efforts. Still, if the resort, gold mine, and a few homesteader's cabins weren't there, they might have kept an eye on it and let it burn.

Jane, my stove is electric, but I did find these ideas.  https://duckduckgo.com/?q=sugary+stuff+off+a+glass+range&atb=v280-2&ia=web

I'm not a driver, but why not turn the headlights up? Would the lights bounce around in the fog or?

Amy, Gloria, I too like veggies, especially roasted.  I usually have a sheet pan of them regularly with some meat. I'm a fan of salads too, and I can make entire meals of just salad.

Patricia, I would dearly love your 53°.
High beams in fog or rain make it worse to drive in, lower beams make it clearer to see. Just like when I was learning my neighbour told me NOT to have my cruise control in in the rain. You could hydroplane in puddles and have no control. Think we should go back to horse and buggy, you could at least use what they left behind :))

Amy, that reminds me of when we were camping, and the parents always told us not to stare in the fire in the autumn.

Our stated low of 53 has already climbed to 64, and hopefully, yesterday's smokey skies stay away.

I just received a notice that a construction company's (with a maintenance man) representatives will be visiting all of the apartment balconies today and tomorrow, one side at a time. This is ahead of a planned renovation to begin later this month. Everyone is asked to have nothing on the said balcony and a clear pathway to it.

I'm glad I just finished cleaning and overhauling my apartment and two, I imagine they will be working from the outside, but it's not something to look forward to!
