Second Hand Rose
Barbra Streisand

Father has a business strictly second hand
Everything from toothpicks to a baby-grand
Stuff in our apartment came from father's store
Even clothes I'm wearing someone wore before
It's no wonder that I feel abused
I never get a thing that ain't been used

I'm wearing second hand hats
Second hand clothes
That's why they call me
Second hand Rose

Even our piano in the parlor
Daddy bought for ten cents on the dollar
Second hand pearls
I'm wearing second hand curls
I never get a single thing that's new
Even Jake, the plumber, he's the man I adore
He had the nerve to tell me he's been married before

Everyone knows that I'm just
Second hand Rose
From Second Avenue
From Second Avenue
No!

One more time!
Everyone knows that I'm just
Second hand Rose
(From second Avenue!)
From what?
Let's see if you know the fills!
Once while strooling
Through the Ritz a girl got my goat...
(She nudged her friend
And said oh look there goes
My old fur coat)
You don't need me!

Everyone knows that I'm just
Second hand Rose
From Second Avenue!
(Ya can't beat the egg-creams!)
Good! Second Avenue!
(There is more between me
And Fifth Avenue, I tell ya)
Right! Second Avenue!

During a lesson about adjectives, my friend, an elementary school teacher, asked her class to describe their mothers. One boy described his mother's hair as auburn.
Impressed by his sophisticated word choice, my friend asked, "How do you know her hair color is auburn?" Her student replied, "Because that's what it says on the box."

We are in for another storm today. I do hope it is after I get my dill pickles done! Kyle needs to get more wood for another trug, so a trip to the lumber store first thing this morning.

Jane, David just called and wanted me to ask you what the beautiful trees in Northumberland were. With him describing them I said it sounds like Hydrangea sometimes called peegee trees. Mystery solved!

Bubble thank you for the new start page..

Better make this a quickie ,have many things to do today..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had thunder and lightning off in the distance last night and it took out the electricity for seconds three times.  That's when I gave up trying to use things that needed electricity...including this thing!  So I never signed off last night.

AMY, good you could fill David in on the trees because I probably would have had to look it up!

PATRICIA, I'm glad the fires are beginning to subside but I sure wish it would be faster.  I just can't imagine how that feels!

I did the beets for supper last night in the air fryer and they were sooooooo  goooooood!  I think I'll just throw away my frying pans!  Well, I suppose that's not a good idea but I could just forget where I put them!

I'm washing the bedding right now because Frankie is off and she said she was coming over to give the dogs a bath this afternoon!  I think it would be nice if we both went to bed clean in a clean bed!

We had another bad night last night.  We were in bed by 10:30 and Mickie decided she had to get up at 1:15....and 2:30....and 3:15....and 4 a.m.  At that time, I didn't even try to go back to bed.  I zonked on the couch and she zonked with me.  When I woke up at 6:30 she was on the floor and she didn't have to go out again until an hour and a half after she ate her breakfast.  I'm thinking it's her "empty stomach syndrome" having a heyday with her stomach!  Maybe a bit larger meal right before we go to bed will help that.  It's worth a try.

Thanks for all the tips on stove cleaning.  I've already tried the vinegar and baking soda.  I think I'll try the baking soda and dawn next.  I haven't checked out PATRICIA'S link yet but that's next on my agenda.

We're not supposed to have rain today or tomorrow but it'll be back Saturday, Sunday and Monday!  This is the rainiest July I can ever remember!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone, WOW I woke  to sunshine  this morning. My dental appoin tment was canceled yes terday af ternoon. I thought  it was for a check up and cleaning but  talking t o  the gal who called me it was  to have the res tof my  teeth ou t. Great, first thought I had was how in the world would I eat and what would I be able to ea t. I rold her if it was the same one who took the last 2 out and was too free with antibiotics I would not let her even put a little finger in my mouth. They did not know I ended in the hospital because of that.  Yve tte just called and will be here a t 10:30. Hooray. The first knee will be done in November. After all the covid cases in the hospitals many  selective surgeries were canceled and now they are being done. She has to go for 2 MRIs, one on each knee. Surgeon told her she might need a whole replacement    but will know better after seeing the results of the MRIs.

LLOYD  beginning to look like your case will never be done. Watching good westerns and napping sound good to me.

Not much time to talk as  I have 15 minutes till Y gets here. She needs to go to the market for me. I don't trust the ones I have been getting with money and hopes of getting all th change back. With her I get everything back down to the last penny.

BUBBLE  I like Tea Time by Phyllis . I should get some of my old work and send to you is you can or want to use them.

JACKIE  at times I would love to go shopping but it wears me out it takes a few days before I feel better.  would love to move furniture around so it looks diferent in here but  there again no room to move things.

AMY  boy Kyle is going to town with making those trugs. I know 2 people who could make them, my younger son and my SIL. They both have a feeling for wood. Think my oldest grandson could make them too. The 3 of them have to keep busy doing something. We had a storm last night but I did not hear it.

JANE  like you I cannot remember a lousy July like this one has been. Local weather said 3 days ago that we were  inches over the normal rain for July.

I started  this 3 hours ago and now it is finished. Yvette has just left for the market. When she ge ts back will have to pput things away.

Have a good day stay dry or stay cool what ever it is like where you live.

Good morning from the Interior, where it's to be another sunny day in the eighties. Yesterday I went with friends to see some flowers at Alaskaland's Pioneer Park and mosey about.

The balcony guys never showed up. I don't know if that means it will also be today or something else.

After three summers of near-constant rain, the heat is back, but the fires aren't welcome. In the past, August has normally been our rainy and cool down month, but I wouldn't dare claim to know the weather anymore.

We have just had a go of rain and lots of it! David called to see if we were ok as there was a tornado warning out Tornados did touch down  west of us but so far all is well here. Sad to see barns opened up and all the hay exposed.

Patricia ,nice to get out and enjoy the beauty of the Park. The next time we go to the city we will actually be able to eat IN the restaurant, rather than have take out.

Tornados would scare me badly; I would be the one caught out and sent to kingdom come! Actually, just seeing those huge skies sitting so low scares me. The four mountain ranges and three sets of foothills do a good job of protecting us from inclement weather!

Luckily, Amy, we have several parks, one per block or more, and while not fancy, the kids love the play equipment, and the adults love the number of benches.

I was so excited to finally finish what was interrupted in February that I posted a photo of my desk. You can see the surfaces, and trust me, and it's not the usual state of affairs!

Patricia, we are still getting rain, heavy at times. Can't imagine what the garden will look like after all this.

I'm up a tad late tonight.  I thought I see how Mickie does for the night if we go to be later.  Maybe she sleep longer.  Also, Frankie was here and gave her doggie and mine both baths today so maybe "clean" will help her to sleep better.

I got the cleaning and the laundry done today and the bed is nice and clean for us.  I think I'll go see how it feels.  I hope I didn't wash out all the zzzzs!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Checking in to say HELLO and see how you all are doing?

I finally got my call today for scheduling my shoulder surgery. It will be the 27th of August.  Ugh!  I was sure hoping sooner😩 Just so tired of the pain and thinking how long it will be until I can start my recovery time🤪

We finally could see some blue skies today.  It is still very Smokey but better than it has been.

Tonight has been 4 weeks since our Michele passed away😩 The time seems to be marching on pretty quickly.  We visited with the family late this afternoon and they all are doing well.

It is late so I must say goodnight.  Pleasant dreams to all.

Up way too early but I didn't eat much last night & never sleep sound on a kinda empty tummy. My kids called early & I had a late lunch so kept putting off the meal until it was bedtime. My "routine" is that I have NO routine these days.

Jenny, sorry you have to wait so long for the surgery. You do amaze me with not "freaking out" over surgery. I go into panic mode at the thought of any kind of anesthesia with so many different reactions to everything. I know you are super good with the re-hab so understand your eagerness to get it over with!

Hard to believe it's been 4 weeks since Michele passing. I was talking about her with my daughter the other night, she had her 3 grands for a week to give their parents (her oldest son) a week off to do what they wanted. The kids love it at her house, she has all the toys in the world & husband that dotes on the youngest because she says "he is her favorite and she is his". They arranged to swap the kids back by meeting in KC so the parents spent an extra night in KC by themselves & really did have a week off duty. Both had been working from home but going back to offices. With 3 kids home schooled for a while & now in all the summer activities, besides the fact that Mom is that housekeeper that never has anything out of place but does all those crafty things with the kids, even gardening, they appreciated time to be just a couple again. I thought how difficult it would be for my gr-son to be without his wife, like your Dave. My heart aches for them.

Well, I better get on with breakfast, Tom & Tiger are sitting outside & will go hunt their own if I don't move from this chair. Callie is in HER garage & spends most of her time in there. I feel bad about not letting her in the house like during the winter but I can't keep up with her not using the litter box every time! She loves it when I go out & take her for walks, but she does get right under my feet. I have tripped over her too many times.

Gloria, was thinking about you saying you couldn't stand at the stove to cook & realized that I keep a tall "bar stool" that I sit on by the stove. Have a little nook with a small TV, the stove & since I keep a folding step stool (Coleman) in that corner to get things off the top shelf, that has become a foot stool while I cook & eat right there, on my wooden bar stool! I started doing this after Cas died & not around to fuss about things being in his way. Only time I eat at the table is when any of the kids come by to eat with me. Oh oh, cats are gone, tired of waiting on me!

Good morning, Lloyd. I just get up & eat & with a fully tummy go back to bed for a couple more hours sleep. I think I saw where ME channel is having that later version of Bonanza on & some of the original cast's kids are in it, Sat.night at 7:00 CST. Pretty sure it is what I got the tail end of last week & was mad at myself for not seeing the whole show, think it is 2 parts. I love the westerns mainly for the landscape.

Good morning..

All is quiet, no rain, thunder or tornados!! Sun is shining and I hope the day goes well. Chasing dust bunnies and weeding a flower bed are in order . Picked a green bean, little one but huge on taste and it won't be log before there will be a lot of beans.

Jane, great talking with you as always, I did give Babe more of the Rescue and she was as calm as a cucumber. I have no idea of who came up with that saying or why but she didn't go into panic mode...so that is a blessing!!

Shirley ,I am the same way, eating puts me to sleep! Mom used to say when I was a baby feed me,burp me ,bath me and I was ready for bed. Not much has changed over the years. :2funny:

Jenny,I wish you could get your surgery earlier but at least you are getting it this year and not having to wait longer. Gives you time to get food in order ,make dinners for the freezer and do the things you can do now but not after surgery. Prayers that all goes well. Can't believe it is 4 weeks that Michele has passed.! How is the new puppy doing?

Lloyd, cat naps are in order for you today.......take them.

Gloria, happy to read Yvette is back.  Will send you an email later.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, sure a forecast this morning I do not care for. Very hot and humid with thunderstorms late afternoon again. Tomorrow hot and humid again Oh October where are you? Maybe December would be better. Yesterday was the first sunny day for over a week and it was great to see, of course the heat and humidity climbed up with the sun.

PATRICIA  last week we were 4 inches above normal for rain in July. Wonder how much over normal we are now. Weatherman said  this has been  the wettest July since they started keeping records.

AMY  tornados can stay away. Hurricanes are bad enough when we  get one here. At least they can be prepared for. I was surprised in April when my son made reserva tions in a restaurant for my birthday, the restaurant was pretty busy, too. Then my  grandson made reservations for Mother's day in a different restaurant but this place also has outdoor sitting set up, too. The only upscale restaurant in this area and it has always been very busy. Food is great, too.

JANE  hope tha t fresh clean bed had you and Mickie sleep better and longer last night. I think I was half asleep before my head hi t the pillow las t night, got  my 8 hours of dreamland at least.

JENNY  like you if I needed surgery I would want it today not a month from now. Yvette is scheduled for her first knee replacement in November. No hospital room available to then. With the hospitals full of covid patients only emergency surgeries were performed and now they are catching up  on them.

LLOYD  I have had nights like that where I cannot sleep and get up and either find a movie to watch or play some games on the computer.

SHIRLEY  I really have no routine anymore. I do things as I feel like it. I tried a high stool in the kitchen vut it didn't help. No place for my knees and I cannot do anything sideways. Besides that the galley kitchen really has no room for that stool so got rid of it. Now I would not be able  to get on that stool. Like you I seldom eat at the table, mostly with a TV tray set up on a side of my computer chair. Works for me. LOL  I like watching a we stern twice, once for the story and the second time for the landscape. Cannot help checking the scenery on the old b/w movies with the clouds and mountains never changing-painted backgrounds. Much better when they left the studios and went on location. I have always been fascina ted wi th the scenes from  the west, nothing like that here. Further north in the New England states there are mountains gut the highest point here in Rhode Island is only 812 feet high. Hardly a mountain, just a steep hill.

AMY  when Yvette  told me wen the sur gery was scheduled I said OH NO. She loves to go Christmas shopping especiall at the last  few days ahead of Chris tmas day. She likes being in t ha t crowd of shoppers. She will have to start early this year and will not making the huge dinner for all the family, hers and her inlaws are all together at her house then.

Time for me to get my breakfast. Had my 2 cups of coffee. Now I am wide awake.

Have a good day where ever you are and hope the weather is great there.

So far so good. Pickles put away, flowers weeded, vegetable garden weeded  and porch swing put on the neighbours truck to take to their son.

Cooked some chicken chests for the dogs and need to cut that up when it is cold.

Well, it took me a while to find my way back after my short stop this morning.  And I see it hasn't been a particularly busy place either.

Evening storms are getting to be the norm around here.  This one started about 6:15 even before the rain, it hit the electricity.  It turned off my computer, knocked off my TV Dish reception and made it necessare to redo all the clocks.  It also put off our nightly walk.  Fortunately, it stopped just before black dark set in and we managed to squeeze in our last walk of the day!

I never made it back this morning because as I sat at my desk with a paper in my hand, looking for a place to put it that I wouldn't lose it, I decided that it was time to clean off my desk.  When I finished that job and checked the clock, it was past time for lunch followed by a doggie walk, collecting the day's mail and a "zonkout" on the sofa.

It occurred to me that a certain pill that Mickie takes daily might be the cause of her not sleeping at night.  Since we have to wait an hour after she takes it in the morning before she can eat, I started to give it to her at night.  Last night I decided to start giving it in the morning again and see if that had any effect on her sleeping.  She actually slept all night and I'm going to see if that happens again tonight.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Oh, Jane, I do hope you solved the problem for the pup! Goodness, what a worry. I'll be here first thing to check how this night goes.

I fell asleep watching Blue Bloods.... That is the only show I try to catch of present day shows, but sometimes the tension gets too high & my brain just turns off. Tom Selleck still gives a laid back performance, I like most of the cast, but some times it gets too-too.

Sweet dreams, God Bless and wishing all a happy tomorrow.

Good morning..

Over cast day here and temp is livable if it stays that way. Daily chores about and some that I keep putting off may...just may get done today.

My niece called, all excites she just became a Grandma!! She lives on one coast and her daughter lives on the other but when my niece has had her second covid shot she is flying out to see her grandson.

Gloria, weather does what it wants and when it wants. Like fire and water it can leave devastation in its wake.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's not raining today and it's not supposed to rain today but I don't see the sun either.

SHIRLEY, we slept Mickie's regular time again last night.  I think the pill is back to being a morning thing!  I sure hope that's all it was that was getting her up in the middle of the night.  Her stomach must be used to having food an hour after that pill.

Today, I'm going to look at the windows!  Now mind!  I didn't say I was going to wash them.  That's part of the plan but that part has been around for a couple months now.  There's only one that needs a ladder to do the outside.  The rest of them flop in so you can stand on the floor and reach the outside.  But the big picture window needs a ladder and if I get the inside done before Frankie gets here, she'll do the ladder thing on the outside!  I think I can manage at least on room's worth of windows!

Right now, I have to go get dressed and take Mickie for her morning walk and I'll think about the windows when I get back.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

HI AMY!  This thing just told me that you posted while I was writing!

Good morning everyone, darn these thunderstor ms. Had to cut off Skype almost as soon as we connected. This one was longer and louder  with more flashes we had so far. Seems like every day we get another one. I don't remember ever having thses storms every day before. Just checked  the wea ther on the PC and maybe today we will have one about 1pm and maybe another one during the night. Getting very tiresome with those and all the rain this month while in the western states it is so dry it is burning with worse  fires every day. Is God telling us something? Live bet ter and stop all the fighting in the world perhaps? If this covid does not do the job then fire or flooding will.Geez that sure sounds like I am depressed doesn't it? I really am not, just the news is so bad from around the world these days.

JANE  I cleaned my desk about 3 weeks ago and I just looked at it but looks like I have not cleaned it off for a least a year. Te desk is small so just a few papers make it look cluttered. Hope that pill time wors better and you sleep better.

SHIRLEY  Blue Bloods is one show I just could not enjoy so don't bother with it anymore even if I do like Tom Selleck.

AMY  I know how your niece feels. When my daughter was due to have her fist baby I wanted to fo to San Diego to be with her but knew I couldn't go, never was on a plane  or even in an airport. Fianlly my husband said he would pay for the fare if I wanted  to go. Yippee, I took him up on that. From the East coast to the west coast.

JANE  with all this rain do you really want to wash the outside of the windows? Not me. Every time it rains here the wind always blows it against my wwindows and the lower  ones with the screens leaves a pattern of the screens on those widows.

LLOYD  glad you and Nancy like your new cell phones.

Time to get dre ssed before my son gets here for his weekly visit. He gets here about 10:30 every Saturday.

Have a good day and hope the thunderstorms and rain stay for today and  tomorrow.

3rd or 4th time I've buzz thru but been having trouble with wi-fi/blue tooth/Fitbit & iPad, add the tracfone cell (iPhone) to all that & fact can't send or receive texts to daughter & sons, so with daughter's help trying to track down the problem. We knew it had to do with the last big update for something & having tried everything else, time to turn off everything (including wi-fi & blue tooth) & THERE was the problem! The iPad had not been shutting down completely! So on phone with my daughter vacationing in Seattle, running from one end of house to other (trying to keep the cell & iPad separated), I wanted to check on Mickie but never time to yell "great cure".

Along with that we had a storm develop just to the west of Wichita, looked wicked but only a little rain at my house so far. Trying to keep track of the storm with computer & TV but no warnings of severe so far. Anyway, I am thrilled you figured the problem without Mickie having another night of stress. Guess her tummy insists on food to keep that pill from causing trouble.

Tommy & Callie stayed out last night, Callie waiting for breakfast when I got up but no sign of Tom yet. He probably heard the thunder long before I did so when to his hidey hole. At least I hope that is where he is, been raining non-stop for several hours and he won't come out of his safe spot until all clear. I always feel so bad for him being alone in the storm, when in the house he hides in a hall or under a bed. Callie ate her breakfast as did Tiger. Callie in her garage with the door up enough she can get out if she wants. Trouble is we now have 2 little strays/ferals? hanging out in the neighborhood. Animal Control says they have too many so don't bring more (or call them, sounds like). I'm sure one or other (strays) has visited my garage when the door is up so except for a storm like this, I don't leave it up.

Not even dressed yet so better get a move on. Good morning, where ever you are!

Good morning, sunny and smoky this morning in the Interior, heading back into the eighties. The Munson fire has increased from more than 36,000 to over 41,092 acres, and containment decreased from 16% to 8%. However, since the efforts to turn it away from populated areas and structures have worked and it's now burning in an unpopulated area of the boreal forest, they are decreasing the number of fire personnel. They are keeping the evacuation orders for the area in place.

"The 41,092-acre fire continues to spread and grow to the north and east, away from Chena Hot Springs and other values at risk. The bulk of the new growth is east of Far Mountain, where the fire is burning deeper into the remote wilderness and along the north side of the Middle Fork Chena River. Fire activity on the western perimeter closer to Chena Hot Springs Resort, cabins, and homes along Chena Hot Springs Road remains minimal."

Now that my apartment is cleaned, decluttered, and in maintenance mode, I'm awaiting the state teams to evacuate and repair what needs to be repaired and to figure out what to bring for a cocktail and poker party planned for August fourth. Since everyone in our group has been vaccinated, we are resuming more of social life. As are many other places, we have increased covid cases due to the unvaccinated, so I'm still wearing masks and taking precautions.

Well, the last post in here was around 1p.m.  Everyone must be very busy.  We had another thunderstorm around supper time that lasted until after dark...well, the rain lasted until after dark.  The thunder drifted off into space and just left the rain behind.

Now it's time for the haystack.  Frankie is spending the night with me so Mickie won't be lonely when I go to church tomorrow.  And I plan to make a quick stop at the Farmers' market on my way home.

Now I'm heading for the haystack to see if there are enough zzzzs to last the night.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Another lovely day here to enjoy. A day of rest, we are going out for lunch later. This will be a first in a long time that we can actually sit in and eat. Restrictions are slowly lifting as more people get their covid shots. Afterwards I may just sit on the front porch and finish sewing a binding on.

Patricia, I need to do that here. Things have been finding their way into boxes for SA but so far they are not taking anything yet that I know of.

Shirley, we were at a garage sale and they had a tall, almost as tall as me cat tree. for 20.00. I phoned my neighbour to see if Callie would like it but she is not one for cat trees. Someone would get a good bargain.

Jane, think I am going to try carrots in the AF tonight...along with some canned potatoes.

Gloria, did your son's apple trees blossom this year? Kyle is on an apple kick now but as we head into the summer the apples are getting softer:(

Lloyd, hope you had a good nights sleep.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We've been up and attem for a couple of hours now and Mickie and I just had our long walk.  Today Cooper will get his walk with his own mother when she decides to get up.  We let him out in the yard and then fed him when Mickie ate.

Now I have to get ready to go to church.  I'll hit the shower and then get dressed and prepare my mind.  I hope you all have a good day.

AMY, sitting on the porch and sewing sounds like a good idea to me.  Reminds me of Grandma Walton!  She was either sewing or shelling peas or snapping beans when she sat out.

Gotta GIT!

Amy, MY cats have all the trees possible down by the river....OUTSIDE! I wish they didn't all think it necessary to come inside to "do their business". Callie has really done a number on the garage floor in spite of having 2 litter boxes in the garage. I think she may be getting hard of hearing and maybe seeing, she also has attitude. When I pull into the driveway she won't get out of the way unless I honk. Seriously, she will lay there like, "drive around me"... I'd do it but would be driving over sprinkler heads & that ain't gonna happen!

Been to church & breakfast with #1 son & his wife. Guess the gr-son & family had ball games or something to be at. With 3 kids all in sports they don't have much free time on week ends.

Jane, hope Mickie did okay last night again?? Such a relief to think it was the timing of that pill.

Good morning from another sunny Interior running up into the eighties. Jane, I was struck by your comment that the last post yesterday before your closing was around one pm. The post was mine at 8:41 AM my time. Computers are amazing that we can talk through our various time zones!

Farrah has two cat trees, each by a window and two beds, a blanket, or an old towel placed atop a tote or set of boxes. Her newest favorite is under my walker. I wonder if she believes she's barricaded?

Amy, all of the donation places are still closed. However, downstairs has reopened the donation table for residents. Yesterday, there were boxes of clothing, pots, and pans and good condition, glassware, and china teacups wrapped in newspapers. We all know what that means.

Today will be one of finishing up or discarding all the little end-of-the-week chores. It's plant day where everything is checked, gone over, weeded, or watered. I have eight packages of kitchen herbs, and a grow light I'm thinking of buying from Amazon. That will be for later.

We are back from having a delicious lunch out. Kyle had  chicken fingers( no wonder you don't see chickens with fingers!) and I had a hot turkey. Neither one of us could finish it so we brought it home to be given to the two dogs and shared the fries with crow. Now I am more than ready for a nap...but need to get that binding done...Nap tonight:)

I'm checking in...again!

SHIRLEY, we slept through the night again.  I'm blaming the wakefulness on the pill and since we're doing it in the morning again, Mickie, stomach is co-operating!

Frankie went to the store and then home to do some chores and she's coming back "in a couple hours and maybe staying again tonight".  She has another early day at work tomorrow and if she stays here, she doesn't have to make the trip to bring Cooper in the morning.  I'll see how that works out.

Think I'll take a couple pork chops out of the freezer for supper tonight and make some sweet tater fries in the A/F.  I love that little appliance!

JACKIE, we all used to sit outside and do the chores back in "the olden days".  It kept the house clean and us cooler!  I never had a chance to do that at the shore but we did it along the creek when we went camping!

Now, I'm thinking I'll close my eyes for a bit. They're feeling dry and tired.  It's a gorgeous "Spring" day here today.  The high temp is only supposed to be 75 and all the windows are open and there's a lovely breeze coming in!  I love Spring!

Better get the stuff out for supper and then zonk!  Enjoy your day!  Make it your own in every way!

Jane, I agree with the AF...I want to do the brussel sprouts in there . Thought I would do carrots to go with supper tonight but we are way too full!

Shirley, saw a Rialta go by and thought you had come up to check out the trugs :)

Better get back at it.....see Patricia.....not procrastinating........much

A good Sunday HELLO to all.  We continue to put things out of place so the carpet cleaners can do their thing tomorrow

I had a post prepared for this site, but it appears the gremlins to it away!  Gurrr.

PATRICIA, I jus5 know we ALL need to find that excuse for procrastination ‼️‼️  I seem to be he worlds BEST at it since my accident back the middle of March!

It is going to be a hot one here today and for the next 10 days with no moisture in sight.😩😩

Last nght we were at Dave's having a wonderful family dinner.  Just as we finished we all were entertained by two in velvet 🦌 deer.  They were just munching away on the plants and bushes in their back yard.  They were beautiful....so healthy looking.  The day before they were blessed with a bear and have bobcats often passing by.  Our poor wild animals have no where to be away from all this mass of humanity as we have taken over their space😩😢  It sure is fun to see them‼️

OK, coffee time is over....back to work.....Arkansas Son just FaceTime'd us What a treat.  I hardly get to chat with him these days.....he is so busy at work.....6 days a week/12 to 14 hours a day.....busy golf season is a very stressful time.

Hope you all are having a restful Sunday.

Jenny

Patricia, no wonder canned salmon is so high these days, the bears are eating hardy!!! Love the link. I'm thinking that growling sound is a baby too far away from it's mama.

I still have pangs every time I see a Rialta, Amy. Sadly mine went to the west coast if the guy wasn't making that up. Mine had never had a cover so sun had done a number on it, but still ran like a pup, got me that ticket going up the hill last time it went to CO!

Jane, sounds like you & Frankie could share a house, or maybe not. I love my kids & grands but also love my "space". Good that the furbabies can enjoy each other's company. My babies are all happy for the moment, got a package of tenderized eye of round steaks out of the freezer, this was a BIG eye & I cut the steaks thick. The 3 of them cleaned up one whole steak. I cut Tom's pieces bigger so he has to chew more or he will just swallow without chewing. Tiger gets the medium size & I cut Callie's into baby bites. I know, they are spoiled.

Jackie, I also did my share of shelling peas & stringing beans!

Those seagulls are yelling in the background, sound just like the ones around here. They get right up to another gull or goose & scream in it's face so when the other drops the piece of bread they grab & fly off!

Gloria, I was also wondering if your son still had any apple trees left.... most of the orchards around here have been sold off for housing developments. Such a shame. There is one left buy not sure they allow people to pick anymore.

Jenny, years ago we had friends that had a son go "pro". Lost contact with them after Cas died & then everyone went to cell phones & I couldn't even find a way to call her when her husband died. They had the son that went pro & 2 daughters, but moved so didn't know where to look for them. I have a feeling golf pros do move, especially when in these cold climates they can't play golf in the winter. Must admit, Cas' group of guys had colored balls to play in snow!

I agree with you about the wildlife being caught inside cities/towns. I still take food down to the river for whatever critters come to eat. The ONLY food I took down that nothing would eat was a box of those little red tomatoes! I figured birds, raccoons or any number of wildlife would eat them but they stayed out on that patch of sand until they dehydrated away.

Back to my pick up & put away jobs. I am going thru a real lazy streak... yes, it is. Need to vac & mop this wood floor but need to put away everything sitting around. Need to vac the pool but with all the work going on next door building a new pool, MY pool could do with a vac every day & not going to do that!  No, can't move because of cats! Sure wish they liked to travel but no place cool enough to go. Such is life!  Hurry up fall~~

Well, SANDY, there you are!  I've been wondering where you were hiding!

This was a gorgeous day in Central PA!  The temp. never got above 75 and there was a lovely breeze all day!  I was a day to be cherished! And I did!

Frankie is here again tonight but she's not coming back here tomorrow after work....I think!  It depends how she feels after work.  He half sister is visiting her father and it's been almost 2 years since she's seen her.  She'd like to go up there after work and spend the night there.  If she does that, Cooper will stay here overnight.  She asked me if it was ok if she decided when she finished work tomorrow.  It's about a 45 minute drive to her father's house and she wants to see how tired she is after work.  I'm good with thatQ

Now I'm going to take Mickie out one last time and then head for the haystack.  I hope it's loaded with zzzzs and they all light on me.  Well, it's ok if some of them light on Mickie.  That would help!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

We did have a wee bit of a storm but then  it looked like sheet lightening after that.

Work around home is about it. Will lift some bean leaves as I am sure we would get enough for a meal.

Kyle may work on his Alpine village...not sure what will take place yet.

Better get ready to meet the day..

Good morning everyone. Was this site down yesterday? I kept trying to get in but all I got was a blank page for S&F. My daughte r said they ar e in tne monsoon season this year with some rain and a fer thunder storms and even hail. She sent me a couple of pictures of it.

SHIRLEY  there ws a lot of stray cats here but a lady here volunteered at the pound and got them to fix a cage with food inside. Ended up with all of them. Took them in and did surgery on them and then when healed brought them back. No more kitens and they finally all went away over the rainbow bridge.

JANE  Saturday we had a storm start about 4:30 pm and lasted almost 4 hours. Then there was another one during the night we ad another one so loud it actually woke me and lot of bright flashes. No storms yesterday but ir still rained most of the day. Still light rain this morning, too. Gardens around here will do die out for lack of water but might rot in the ground from too much of it.

AMY  the apples bought now were in cold storage and not fresh picked and hard. I never asked Mike about his orchard this year. I know he lost half his trees from the gypsy moth investation a few years ago.

PATRICIA  we have 2  tables in the laundry room, one for folding clo thes and one for  things we no longer need/want for others  to take. One lady who is no longer with us used to go to the food pantries and bring back bags of food. When she passed away her family put all those cans and bags of rice and pasta on both tables. We have all looked at them but I would just throw all of that stuff away. Out dated by a couple of years on some things and cans dented. Terrible mess.

AMY  gosh pretty early for trees to start changing colors. I will take fall any day over the way this July has been. I'll that fall over summer every year.

SHIRLEY  there are still several orchards around this state and in near by Conn.

Have a good day with no T s torms or rain unless you need the rain.

Good morning, everyone from a hazy and sunny Interior! We're headed back up into the eighties again today and tomorrow, so nothing new here. I finished many odds and ends yesterday, and today will be laundry.

I'm also curious about the Alpine village. I can't imagine winter so early, but I recall one early September, mid-nineties, when it snowed and didn't go away until that following spring!

I agree about chaining a dog being wrong.

I received an email from the hospital that they had received the recent information I sent and let me know that Medicare was so backed up they were working on last October's claims to not worry about mine. They paid the ambulance and the emergency room doctor but not the rest so far. My insurance is waiting on Medicare, so that it will be some time yet.

Gloria, our donation table is overlooked and overseen by the various administrative offices. After 48 hours, everything set out is either trashed or taken to various food pantries depending on the condition. We do have one man, part of the first floor's seven apartments set aside for those mentally disabled but able to live independently who has a fondness for Elvis, dresses similarly, and occasionally breaks into small pieces of a song. He is also a kleptomaniac and a hoarder. He cruises that area each morning and, if not stopped, will load up everything regardless and take it away.

One time, I was getting a soda in the mailroom and had set a small mailed package on the table. This man came right up by me, picked up the package, looked at the address, and when he seemed to be pondering opening it, I said, "you do know I'm standing right here?"

He had some excuse about looking to see if it was lost but put it back and left. It's hard to feel sorry for him when pens, sunglasses, books, mail, and even once a tall walking cane disappear if not kept in sight. He has a minder who comes by weekly to check on him and to unload all his week's hoard and take it away.

We were NOT supposed to have rain today but it's out there!  There's a bit of thunder off in the distance but it's not a violent storm like some we've been having.  It's just raining....not hitting the house like stones.  And there's no lightning either.  I can take this kind...or I could if we hadn't already had so much!

I'm going to go look at the picture when I finish here.  This is the first I've heard about an "Alpine Village".

I did an inventory of my home canned goods so I know what I want to get into when it comes up.  I have a list posted on the shelves and one on the computer that I can bring up and look at.  I know one thing for sure...I'm making more carrot soup and I'm canning more potatoes!  I wish I'd known about the potatoes years ago!

PATRICIA, it sounds like you have to keep your eyes open when that man is around.  Don't lay down anything important.

LLOYD, it sounds like you made a doggie friend!  I bet he was glad to see you!

Where's PHYLLIS?  And JENNY?  And EVERYONE!  I miss ya when ya don't show.

Lloyd, if you go to message #9191 you will see Kyles village..he is working back in the shop to finish off another one he started a barber shop. On the wall you can partially see a grill that he made for the truck. Will try and get a photo of it to post.

Gloria, I too am looking forward to Fall. Love the temps.colours and smells of Fall.

Jane, Sabrina sent me a recipe for dog cookies and it only takes 3 ingredients. Banana , oatmeal and peanut butter ,I am going to make some for these critters. Mind you I have Mikey dogs as in Mikey will eat anything :)

Patricia, how is the air quality today?  We had smoke last evening but it was the neighbour with a campfire.

Better scoot..

Good morning everyone No rain in forecast today but wil be hot and humid. Another day to stay inside and be cool.On the local news last night the wea ther guesser ws giving a rundown on how much rain we have had this month. The city of Woonsocket had almost a foot of rain and t he sou thern part of the state had half of that. This sity is close to the town where I live.
Had a call late yesterday afteroon. My doct or is sending a nurse to take my blood pressure this morning about 7:30. Have to fast and of all mornings to wake hungry.

LLOYD  I think you will always keep busy doing something. Hope that dog is not left tied up outside all the time, that is cruel.

PATRICIA  glad we have no one like that man where you are. We can leave things in the laundry and know they will be safe but not on the table near the door. That is the take away table.

AMY  Kyle sure is great working with wood.

JANE  I think we could use a couple of weeks of no rain about now but being summer the heat and humidity would not be nice either.

AHH  the nurse vampire  has been and took my blood so now I can enjoy a cup of coffee and then breakfast. Coffee sure tastes good now.

LLOYD  as long as I don't see rain or hear more thunder it should be a good day here.

Have a good day eveyone, keep cool and bless    the one who inven ted ou r home AC's. Mine sure has been working great to keep me comfortable in here.

I'm so glad to hear that the RR is helping the dogs.  Spread the word!  It also works on frightened children or agitated adults.  And it's all natural so it can't hurt anything!

When I went out last night to walk Mickie before the rain and the darkness came, I stopped to chat with my nice neighbor across the street.  When we got back from our walk, there were two yellow summer squash growing on my back porch, courtesy of my nice neighbor.  I looked up some recipes this morning and found one to do chips in the oven.  I got the smaller squash ready but since it called for "fresh ground Parmesan cheese and I don't have any, I used a mixture of mozzerella and sharp.  They were so easy to do and so good!  All you have to do is slice the squash, salt, pepper and onion powder it and put a couple fingerfuls of cheese on top, bake it at 425 and eat it!  The slices that didn't fit on the cookie sheet, I put in the air fryer and they were great, too!  This is definitely a saver (or should I say "savor") recipe!

My sister and I were texting back and forth last night about old GS camp songs, trying to remember the words to some real oldies!

I guess I better get back to work!  I have two doggies who need to go out.  I'm going to try to hold them off until I know the mailman has been here.  You really do have to combine chores when you have advancing years!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Good morning from a golden Interior! Presently we're  63° at 8:17 AM and heading for a high of 85°.  The haze we had the last couple of days surprised me upon hearing it was a residue from the Siberian wildfires. I had thought it was a lot closer to home. This poor earth is epically either ablaze or flooded.  :'(

Amy, yesterday I had a surprising visitor. I was in the bedroom putting away laundry when I heard a loud SQUAWK!! I thought it was coming from my apartment and wondered what had flown in. There was more squawking, and I rushed out to see Farrah up against the glass, almost on tiptoe, growling. On the other side, perched upon the railing, was a large juvenile raven. They're the size of crows at that stage and full of mischief. I had only the screen door between the two, or else there would have been issues.

I thought of you and your friend's leaves turning because ravens are nominally here during the late fall and winter, retreating to the mountains to escape summer's heat. The mew gulls were screaming, flying about almost in formation while some wrens and other smaller birds were doing their own agitated flybys. Several other juveniles were chasing the gulls about and generally being a nuisance. What was so unusual besides being in the wrong place at the wrong time was that it was 83°!

I wish I had a "Mikey Cat!"  Farrah is back to snubbing her vet-approved diet, and since it's needed and expensive, I just put it up until later. I'm trying a treat if she eats right then but so far, treat as dessert hasn't caught on.

I enjoyed seeing Kyle's village, and he's very talented!

Gloria, the donation table is overseen by three administrative offices and the security counter and mailboxes. So someone is always there. Plus, cameras are in all public areas.

Farrah used to get upset about several things when she began venturing out from under the bed. Now she looks over at me first, and if I'm not upset, then she's not upset. Her hearing is fine, and noises don't bother her, but people in my apartment will send her to any number of hiding places until they're gone.

However, my last cat didn't like other animals at the vet office, other people, leaving my apartment, or any loud noises. She preferred both of us to stay in quietly.

Jane, I screengrabbed your recipe, it sounds so good!

Today is a day of rest.

At the moment there is a pounding rain, thunderstorm has moved on I hope. We did get a mix of hail  and I know hear more thunder.

Patricia, what a movie that would have made of cat and bird!! Rarely do I have ravens here...hear them flying by with their "gronk" echoing the sky. When I bought the Kitchen aid there was no place in the cupboard Hank would fit so Kyle made an island which now houses Hank, air fryer ,instant pot and gadgets for those appliances.

Jane, 5 crooked neck squash are growing at David's and
I know they are going to take over and give them lots of squash. I will mix zucchini ,onions, tomatoes, celery, peppers and you can throw in hamburg and mushrooms and cook it up. Just need a slice of homemade bread to soak up the juices.

I'm back.  I have been pretty sick for the last several days but am gradually getting back to feeling better.  Still pretty weak but getting stronger and feeling like eating a little bit more.  It takes longer for me to recover than it used to.

I love the Alpine Village, Amy.  Kyle is a talented man....and so neat!  I noticed how his work place has everything stored away without any jumble or clutter.

Phyllis, sorry you've been sick but happy you are back. This year I've been seeing gaps in the conversations but figure people are just disgusted with the days and don't want to talk about it. Hope you keep getting better, at our ages it takes longer to recover. Hugs...

Has been a sad year for me from the onset of Covid with my brother's funeral just as people were starting to hear about the virus. Since he was in FL for a few months & had just gotten there we were all concerned about whether we could get together for his funeral in KC. People (nieces & nephews & friends) came from all over the US & before the day was over we were all hugging each other. Weeks later everything shut down so we felt good that we could honor him. A few weeks ago my brother in law died and we managed to gather a pretty big crowd for his funeral, before this new strain starting. One day at a time.

I found a package of chuck roasts at Sam's this week, both looked fairly good. Usually one is okay & the other "junk meat" so I haven't been buying many of their 2 packs. I'm going to put both in separate cast iron dutch ovens, brown & bake in the oven for several hours to get that yummy flavor. I just get hungry for roast & might as well fill the oven & spend one day cooking when I've got to freeze most of the meat anyway!

Those little tubs of meat & gravy taste so good when out camping alone, just bake a potato in the microwave or open a tub of instant mashed potatoes & dump the meat & gravy over & add veggies & tub of applesauce, SO good. I eat "fast food" when already in a town but when the cats & I settle down for the night, we love to eat home cookin'....

Got a phone call to make & then a nap before going to bed. Mowers will be here tomorrow morning so up & attem early.

I hear the haystack calling and I'm ready to hit it!  My eyes are already in slam shut mode and my body is on the way to shut down.  We had a pleasant day today and I hope we have the same tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning.

Lovely start to the day with temps of 52°  now if it would just stay there. Meeting with friends this morning in town then home to work. I can pick green beans today , these are French  ones that I didn't read the package  and should have. Can't can or freeze them, just eat. Need to pick up a plant from a friend that is moving to the city called Angel Wings..not sure what I am in for but she said to bring a string to tie it up!

Shirley, I opened a jar of the hamburg I canned and these dogs are lapping it up along with peas and carrots. Will buy eye of round when on sale and cook and can it for them .

Phyllis, good to see you and I hope each day gets better for you. Thank you, Kyle enjoys working with wood as you can tell.

Jane, Rescue to the rescue yesterday between rain, hail and thunder.

Patricia, thank you for the trip around the world enjoyed it!

Better get a hitch in my get a'long..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good mor ning everyone, well al that  smoke frome the wes tern and Canadian fires hit us yesterday. The sky was a weird color and in t he mornings when I get up I open the windows a little  if it is not raining. I opened the bedrrom one and before I left the room I turned around and closed it. Smelly air. Yes terday I had a nurse here just before 8am, send by my doctor to be a vampire. Yvette went to the market for me and while she  was gone and had a phone call fron the nurs from the company who send CNA's out saying she was on her way to see me an Yvette. She was here befor Y got back but met her on her way out.

JANE  every year Mike gives me more summer squash  than I can ea t  and I start sharing it  here. Years ago a sister and BIL had a big garden and she canned a lot of  that yellow squash. Did not taste good when she went to open a jar  lat er and she had to throw it all away. When Regina first sta rted a garden in San Diego she planted zucchine and had so much of it  she started making making zucchini relish from a recipe she found. First time she did any canning. Both of those squashes are adaptable for different recipes but I no longer am able  to cook much of anything. Thank God for Yvette  and a few of those frozen TV dinners.  We have more thunderstorms later today, seems like we get at least one every day lately.

PATRICIA  odd seeing the girds act like it si fall instead of summer. Maybe all the smoke in the air has them confused? When we had our ls t maint enance man-jus t retired-he used to clear  the donation table off when things wer e on it too long. The things some people put on there belong in the trash to begin with. Sone even put underwe ar there, I wou ld never w ear someone else's undies. There are cameras all over this building, in the public rooms on the ground floor and all the hallways. Surprised none in the elevator or hidden in our  apartments.

AMY  I have done as you do with the zucchini with both the summer squash and the zucchini together.

PHYLLIS  sorry you were sick but feeling better now. I know what you mean about  it t aking longer to feel bet ter now.

SHIRLEY  seems like around here a chuck roas t is scarce and then so thin t hey are like a steak. I remember years ago buy ing one  that  was almos t 4" thick. They do have a good flavor and are always tender.

LLOYD  hope you had a good sleep las t night.

RAMMEL  I have been using vinegar to clean my Keurig since I first bought it. Did you know about putting about of baking soda in a drain and pouring the vinegar in it? It boils up and you can hear it bubbling in the pipe. Cleans the drains and if it smells it gets rid of that, too.

AMY  wish it was only 52 here, Already in the mid to upper 70's here and the sun is filtered through the smoky sky.

Have a good day everyone. Time for  me to have breakfast and get dressed for the day.   :hugs:

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think this is going to be a "goof-off" day!  Nothing is calling my name!  I do have to wash up the kitchen floor and maybe a bathroom floor but they aren't really shouting my name.

Cooper's here and both doggies have had their long walk and are now sleeping.  I just talked to Cooper and he didn't budge.  It was almost as if he didn't hear me.  Of course, I didn't ask him if he wanted something to eat or if he wanted to go out.  He always responds to both of those questions in a positive manner.

We're supposed to get rain again today....oops!  Forgot...that's not news!  I'm thinking of selling my hose but I probably wouldn't find a buyer these days1

Gloria, I've been cleaning my drains that way for a few years now.  It really works and also, a little baking soda in the drain before I go to bed keeps my sink and counter top free of ants too.  Then a squirt of vinegar in the morning keeps them free running.

Guess I better get on with my day...whatever it brings!  Enjoy yours! Whatever it brings!

Good morning from the Interior! I read about the US and Canadian smoke particles traveling from upward of 2500 miles away. We have smoke here from the Siberian fires. It's sixty degrees presently, and we'll be heading back into the eighties again.

Nothing is needed today except for a phone call and a few needed emails, so my day is again clear. There has been so much talk about air fryers that I've been tempted, except I have an unused "Big Daddy" fryer I received as a gift some years ago. Instead, I generally cut pieces in uniform sizes and use my large wok. I use that instead of my electrical skillet too. I should get rid of both the fryer and the skillet but never do. I primarily use my 6" and 12" cast iron skillets and a 10" cast iron grill pan. I'm rehoming all my modern conveniences and going back to manual.

There is a lot of texting back and forth about our group's proposed August fourth get back together. It's to replace the July fourth and a couple of missed birthdays. Do you ever notice how some people take the ball and run with it? We have one here, and she started calling and texting everyone about what they were to do and bring. Several people said no, they were doing and bringing something else, and now her feelings are hurt. Dora sat down with her and explained this was to be a fun, unorganized outside party, but she says she feels "unappreciated."

Good morning 💐
Another hot day in the 90's with nasty smoke filled skies.

Welcome back, PHYLLIS. I am sorry to read you have not been feeling well.  Glad that you are getting stronger.  Take care of yourself.

RAMMEL, I, too have a Keurig.  I have had many over the years and love them.  My preferred coffee is Peet's as well.  I order or buy it through Costco, but will check out Staples to see if I can save a bit more. My husband does not drink coffee, so the single cup maker is perfect to ensure a fresh and delicious cup every time.

AMY, I sure enjoyed seeing Kyle's Alpine village!  He does forst class work on everything he makes.  Yellow crook neck squash.....yummm, love them!

We are off to our dermatologist this morning.  Seems we got way behind with Covid and now we have appointments all the time.

Have a good day.

McDonald's has decided to shut down a website aimed at providing work and life advice to its employees after it was reported that it had urged workers not to eat the very fast food they are hired to produce.

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's said Thursday that information on its McResources Line site had been taken out of context thus generating "unwarranted scrutiny and inappropriate commentary," according to a McDonald's spokeswoman.

On Monday, CNBC reported that McDonald's had posted on the site an illustration of two meals — one that looked suspiciously like the company's own double cheeseburger offering, complete with soft drink and fries, that was labeled "Unhealthy choice." Next to it was another illustration showing a submarine sandwich, salad and a glass of water, labeled "Healthier choice."

The accompanying text read:

"Although not impossible it is more of a challenge to eat healthy when going to a fast food place. In general, avoiding items that are deep fried are your best bet."

The site also advised that fast-food places are "almost always high" in calories, fat, sugar and salt.

The latest controversy follows reports in October that the McResources Line website had provided employees with a sample personal budget suggesting the need for a second income and not including such items as food or gasoline. Last month, the site also advised employees to get out of holiday debt by returning unopened purchases and bringing a sack lunch to work.

As NPR's The Salt blog reported earlier this month, fast-food workers rallied in 100 U.S. cities across the country to protest the industry's low wages, which typically are less than $9 per hour.

In October, McDonald's President Jeff Stratton had a public face-off over wages with an employee, Nancy Salgado, a single mother from Chicago. And less than a week later, a study by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that more than half of fast-food workers were enrolled in one or more public assistance programs, costing taxpayers an estimated $7 billion annually.

No idea on the water...
Subs are made with processed meats and that too is unhealthy... but having said that both are delicious and a treat at times. Can't remember when I have had a burger or sub!

Does a ground turkey burger count?

I haven't had a sub in months, maybe a year?

I was sarcastic on the "heavy water." I guess there are ingredients they don't have to list. That one jug of OJ contains an entire day's worth of calories alone.

I'm a fast food junkie and at 86 have indulged more in a year that we did in 20 years when we were just hard working & saving people! I love my hamburger & fries & cokes/pepsi if it comes "with the meal". Back in the day when we were raising kids & paying off a mortgage we didn't spend for fast food and the kids thought it a real treat to get a hamburger or root beer float maybe once in a month or so.

Lucky for me my system tolerates the abuse it gets now but lets me know it still does not approve of raw veggies & not too much fruit. My gall bladder reminded me a few months ago to cut back on the coffee so I quit making a pot every morning & now make me a very "limp" cup of instant Folger's for breakfast & no more the rest of the day. Chocolate is also an enemy of my gall bladder... growing up my fav food was home made fudge. When I explained to my mother that I had a horrible taste in my mouth she said it was probably my gall bladder, that I was eating too much fudge & the bitter taste went back to even bible days, "the taste of gall". I pointed that out to my daughter recently when she mentioned a bitter taste, suggested she slack off the Starbucks strong stuff for a while!

Growing up my mother was always quoting "You Are What You Eat" by Adelle Davis and in high school we had a health class 3 days a week that & every hour was a lecture about foods, nutritian. Besides that, my father's mother was the best at French cooking & if you ever noticed, even tho French use creams & butter, they are never fat.

Amy, I discovered about 50 years ago that my headaches, migraine? blinding that went on for days & the doctor thought probably a sinus problem, turned out to be the nitraits & nitrites. I had been taking an antibiotic twice a year to clear my sinuses & with a move to another city, I new I would have to figure something out, so I went cold turkey. I ate nothing with those preservatives in so cut out bacon, pizza, hotdogs & any kind of cold cuts or deli meats. Sure enough, no headaches until about a year later I decided to test myself. Ate 2 slices of bacon & about 24 hours later that familiar pain across the eyes & forehead started in. I went without any of the preservatives for years but slowly added them back into my diet. Never much & never more than a day or two & a week clean!

I'm pretty hard nosed about the fast food people thinking they are worth more than they are paid. They can always work into a better paying position. One of my nieces worked in a pizza place & found when she wanted to work up the ladder she didn't have the ability to "order in quantity". The high school classes weren't teaching practical math for every day jobs. So she started some college classes and ended up with a Doctor's degree in geriatric pharmacy. She paid her own way thru & the Doctor's degee came after having 3 kids. Gotta want to do something & be willing to work extra hard for it.

Got cats telling me it's time to eat again. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless!

I spent the day organizing my recipes (mostly A/F recipes and now they are all in a book with an index.  I won't have to wonder where they went.

And I'm off to the haystack.  Mickie and I have a vet appt at 7:20 tomorrow morning to have her eye checked out.  We had drops for it for a week but they don't seem to have done any good.

Today was a gorgeous day!  It never got above 75 and there was a beautiful breeze all day.  I had the windows open and enjoyed every minute of it!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

DARN I type on notepad and my long post so far disappeared. Oh well nothing important. Most ly about eat ing fresh frui t and not drink sugared juice. That  and fas t foods. 2 things I ge t a craving for at times KFC and Fish & Chips. Once in a while Yvette will go to a local restaurant  for fish & chips for both of us.  I pay for it. Instead of KFC I will oven fry chicken with  t he Bisquick recipe, tasty and crispy and I leave the skin on. I love  the crispy skin.  No wonder I lost so much weight and weigh in at 80 pounds.  I would love a box of good chocolates, a nice big banana split with different  flavors ice cream and different toppings. I know darn well I would never be able  to eat all of it  anymore. Making my self hungry. Well I finished my daily 2 cups of coffee and time vor my shredded wheat with fresh blueberries. They have been so tarty from the market this year. Mus thave been a big crop because t he prices a lower than I had seen them from the markets.

Have a good day and hope it is a sunny day with no rain for a change. Let the rain fall on all  those western fires, they sure could use it there.

Good Morning Everyfriend...especially you, GLORIA.  You're up and attem early today.

Mickie and I have a Vet appt at 7:20 a.m. this morning so we had to get a move on.  We're ready to leave at 7 or so.  She's been having trouble with one eye and she had drops for it but since the drops finished, she's getting the crust back around her eye so we know it's seeping something.  I guess I'll find out what and why this morning.

The weather out there is like an early Fall day...down in the mid 50s overnight and only heading for the high 70s for a couple hours this afternoon.  I can live with that!

I hope you all have a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

We made it back from the vet but we don't have an answer.  We have to go back tomorrow because the tests they want to do have to be done on an empty stomach and she'd already eaten this morning.  They did give me more eyedrops!

I got all the stuff done that I should have done before I went anywhere this morning and now I'm ready to relax.  Just remembered, I didn't have any breakfast.

Have to tell you...Frankie was here for supper last night and I was planning to have the leftover squash with my dinner.  She doesn't like squash so I made corn from the freezer for her.  I told her that I wanted her to try one piece of the squash because I thought she MIGHT like it.  She did and she said "It's not too bad".  Then I noticed that she took another piece and ate that, too.  So that's the report on the squash recipe!

AMY, eat a bean or two for me!

LLOYD, it sounds like you need the A/C in the car where you live!

Enjoy the rest of your day!  Hope it's better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning from the Interior! I didn't sleep well last night and got up and made my bed at four. It was 64 degrees then, and another eighty-degree day is expected. The sky was full of large puffy purple clouds, but now those are breaking up, back into blue again.

Fires are going out around the state, and an Alaska fire management team, two hotshot crews, and 24 firefighters have been diverted to the lower 48 to help fight fires there.

Maintenance came by yesterday and put in a new bedroom set of blinds to replace the broken ones I reported in March 2020, but still no word on the building inspection and all repairs finalized. At least we're back on a somewhat normal schedule even with news of a new variant after Delta.

I'm rather meh on squash, and perhaps I need to find a new, perhaps roasted recipe?

Too early in the morning at six for more to report.

Have you tried baked Acorn Squash, Patricia?  Cut in half, de-seed, microwave face down in about 1/2 inch of water in a corningware, or other baking dish.  Then turn right side up, put butter, brown sugar in the center, and bake for ______ minutes @ _____degrees.  I will have to look those up, but cook until a fork goes in smoothly.  It's probably about 25/30 minutes, and 350 or 375 degrees.

This is almost like having dessert!  You can sprinkle tiny bit of salt on before you begin the last part of cooking, or salt it after it's ready to eat.
Or forgo the salt altogether, as I do.

That's almost how I do the acorn squash minus the first baking in water.  And the times and temps are right.  But when you bake it, you need to do it in a pan that will hold an inch of water so it doesn't burn on the bottom.

Now I'm heading for the haystack.  I'm tired and Mickie and I have to head back to the vet early tomorrow morning.  They are going to put her to sleep and treat her eye so it doesn't have the goop coming out and sticking to her eyelids.  If you think of it, say a prayer for her!  She a bit old for general anesthetic and anything they have to get at this age is risky.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

We are soon to lose this lovely weather and head back to frying time again. Temp is 55° at the moment and sunny.

A trip into town to pick up a few things then home to check the beans. I can likely pick more today. to eat.....or give to the neighbour.

Jane, hope all goes well at the vets today.. Monday we take Jesse to for needles. Can't go in as they come , take the dog and bring him back out....darn covid and restrictions!!

Supper tonight will be a mix of cabbage, onion, celery, tomatoes and sausage. Will blueberry pie for dessert. I did put pie in the hidey hole if anyone wants a piece..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, we had a day wit h sun and no rain yes terday, amazing for this month. No AC running, just a fan so nice and quiet. If my back wasn' t ac ting up I would have gone outside when Yve tte lef t but  didn't know if I would have been able to walk from the porch to the elevator  to come back up here. The high was 75 and a beautiful summer day. T he sky was a pale blue wit h the smoke in the air. When I pulled up the shades this morning the sky is blue again and a few white puffy clouds.

JANE  yes I was up early yesterday. When sound asleep by 8:30 at night it is no wonder I woke so early. How I can get so tired from not doing much all day it is surprising I was asleep so early. Early again this morning but no as early. Makes a long day though. Hope you found out about Mickie's eye and got help for it.

LLOYD  I would no t live where it was so hot where you are. I know I would never live in Arizona where my daughter lives now. Still not up in the 100's like in the souther part of that state. They already had a couple of weeks in the triple digit temperature.

AMY  I have the ice cream in  the freezer but no bananas or toppings to make a banana split. Just thinking about  it makes my taste buds wake up. Ah fresh beans right from the garden, cannot beat  that except for a tomato.

JANE  vets are as bad as human doctors with their tests. Hope they do get the reason Mickie has a problem with her eye. I chuckled abou t Frankie no t liking squash but went back for a second piece of it. Like a youngs ter saying they don't like something till they tasted it.

PATRICIA  one of the CNAs I had when Yvette was on vacation came in one day and first thing she said was -why didn't you make your bed?. and then she jus t sat  down. If that had been Yvette she would have made it. I alway throw the covers back when I get up in the morning and make the bed when I go in there to dress up after I have breakfast.

TOMEREADER  with Acorn squash I cut in half, get the inside cleaned and stuff it with slices of apple nuts and breakfast sausages cut up and sprinkle brown sugar of it and then dot with butter then bake about an hour-depending on the size of the squash. Yummy.

JANE  I widh you good luck with Mickie's test this morning. We do love our fur babies don't we?

AMY  right now it is 65 here and with it was 50.

Have a good day everyone and hope today is a good one for all of us.

Well, I dropped Mickie at the Vet and I came out with tears in my eyes.  I always miss her when she's not here.

GLORIA, when I saw Frankie take the second piece of squash, I had all I could do not to comment and not to chuckle.

I have stuff to do and I better get at it or it won't get done.  And if I'm doing, I won't be worrying so much about Mickie.

I'm not a fan of blueberries in any way, shape or form but I was hungry enough to try the pie in the hidey hole and it was very good and it hit the spot.  Now you could slip some beans in there, too!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning from another smoky Interior! The western fires are sending smoke as far east as New York City, and Siberia's fires are sending smoke here. Siberia is also having floods as is Europe. We're all citizens of planet Earth, and we haven't been that responsible.

We recently received this notice,   "..RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 PM AKDT THIS EVENING FOR LIGHTNING FOR MIDDLE TANANA VALLEY...

* AFFECTED AREA...Fairbanks North Star Borough, the surrounding hills, and the White Mountains.

* TIMING...1 PM to 11 PM Friday.

* LIGHTNING ACTIVITY LEVEL...4.

* WINDS...West 4 to 8 mph.

* HUMIDITY...38 to 48 percent.

* TEMPERATURES...70 to 76.

* IMPACTS...Ample lightning could lead to numerous new fire starts. Some of the thunderstorms will have frequent lightning, brief heavy rain, small hail and gusty winds.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are occurring or will occur which could lead to the development of large and dangerous fires. It is directed toward fire agencies, and through them, to the public.

Jane and Joanie, thanks for the acorn squash recipe. I've written it down and placed squash on my grocery list.

Jane, I hope everything goes well for Mickie at the vet. I have to take Farrah back in August for the periodontal disease cleaning in her teeth and go back in four hours to pick her up. It's the same here, drop off and return to pick up. She's also older for these procedures, nine in September.

I agree with you about Amy's pie, but I hope you didn't mean to slip those beans into the pie?  ;D

I remember that growing up; I always thought I disliked asparagus, and it wasn't until years later that I discovered you didn't need to boil it until it was limp to enjoy it. Of course, I enjoy several foods as an adult that I would never have touched as a child! Frankie may be just discovering this.

Gloria, we either swim in the rain or roast in the heat this summer. You don't get sticky in dry heat, but you may feel dried out to a husk the higher the temperatures go. The highest I've seen here is 104 to 106 degrees but normally in the 80 to 90 range.

It's too bad that more CNAs aren't prepared to do their jobs. I applied when I was injured, but they were buried in applications and referrals. They called last week to say they were still understaffed, and I had them remove my name.

Mickie's home and all went well.  She practically wagged her tail off her body when she saw me!

PATRICIA, the beans and pie are separate!

I made a big batch of fried red cabbage today out of a cabbage that Christy sent me the last time Frankie went down there.  Boy is it ever good!

NO MORE FIRES!

Red cabbage
The red cabbage is a kind of cabbage, also known as Blaukraut after preparation. Its leaves are colored dark red/purple. However, the plant changes its color according to the pH value of the soil, due to a pigment belonging to anthocyanins.

My daughter in Maryland grew this one and gave it to me.  I think I might have another one before the summer is over and it's really good in Cole Slaw too.

I stayed up to watch the Parade of Nations at the Olympics.  That's the best part of the broadcast.  I saw countries that I didn't even know existed!  The costumes are always great and representative of the country but this year so many of the athletes were carrying Iphones and using them to photograph during the procession.  I'm not sure how I feel about that.

The haystack calls and I'm answering!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

....when i was very young ( 60 years ago ) i watched my mother often pickling red cabbage into jars, she also jar pickled walnuts, gherkins and tiny silver onions...my favourites were the pickled walnuts...gherkins if anyone is unfamiliar with them were like 1-2 inch miniature cucumbers...
Now of course white pickled cabbage in jars are todays healthy in thing called ( Sauerkraut )

Good morning everyone. Another morning I am awake before the rooster  starts making noise. I think tonight I will take a Melatonin and see if I sleep better. 2 nights in a row I will feel like a zombie today. My son Bill will be here about 10:30 like he is every Satuday. He called yesterdy to ask if I need anythng. He went to the doc tor yesterday because his lef t wrist was all swollen, took xrays but the tech could not read it right and thinks it is broken so he has to go back on Monday. Poor guy, if anything could go wrong it seems like it always happens to him. 56 now and it was a cooler night for  sleeping and I could not sleep again. :(

JANE  I have to laugh-quietly-when I watch my great grandson try something new and different. He sees it before it is cooked and at meal time he tells his Mom to just give him 2 bites. They always told him to try 2 bites of something to see if he likes it so now he tells them that. When he was younger if he didn't like something he would take it out of his mouth and drop it on the floor-it never hit the floor, the dog would lay near him at the table and would catch whatever he dropped.

PATRICIA  there is flash flood warnings in parts of Arizona. On TV they showed a car caught in one and it was rushing down the river. Living on a mountain side and mountains all around them higher they get little rain at their home. There is a dry river bed t hey c ross before ge tting to the highway and they all know bet ter than trying to cross it. It sinks into the ground fast when it stops running.

AMY  isn't that normal for a dog after having a bath? I know dogs in my life over the years always did that, too.ou made my mouth water with your blueberry pie so Yvette and I made a one crust one. 2 cups blueberries are cooked and thickend, cooled a bit and then 2 cu ps raw berries are added and mixed and poured into a baked shell and then chilled for a couple of hours. Served with whipped cream. Yummy. Has to be fresh blueberries. I got that recipe in an old Yankee magazine about 45 years ago. The name is Fresh French blueberry pie. Yvette had to wait for the next day to have a piece of it.

PATRICIA  I still do not like asparagus, to me it tastes like I am ea ting grass. All the companies here who suplu CNAs and homemakers are short handed since Covid hit. Nursing homes are always looking for CNAs, too. For one thing they do not pay much, not a living wage for those supporting a family.

JANE  I would love to try your fried red cabbage. I have tried doing that but never had a recipe so it never came out as good as I have had before. I love the flavor of the red cabbage and like it is coleslaw, too.

LLOYD  enjoy eating all that beef.

JACKIE  I always have a can of Sauerkraut in the cupboard.

Have a good day everyone. Hope you ge t some needed rain wi thout the thuder and lightening. Do not heed that last to start another fire.

Good morning...
Starting to warm up to uncomfortable temps again..
Working outside today ,tryin to finish off the area that needs mulch on it.

Gloria, you would have blueberry pie if you were next door as I ran two pieces over to the neighbour yesterday. That reminds me I had better make pasty also today...no pie shells in the freezer to use now. Hope Bill's hand  is soon looked after, that must be sore.

Lloyd, good to see you. Nothing like having your own beef. I used to ask for the tail when a beef was sent to the abattoirs made the best soup!

Jane, the beans we had for supper last night were French beans.they don't grow very big but are long. Bought the seeds by mistake as they are not good for freezing or canning....so we eat.

Shirley, where are you? Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  JACKIE, I made up that word way back and some of the posters picked up on it.  It does cover the territory.

I forgot who mentioned the fried red cabbage.  I could post the recipe in
What's for Dinner if you're interested!

Mickie and I just got back from our walk and we stopped where some friends are putting out stuff for a yard sale.  I bought a jar and a chair and I have to go back and pick them up.  I might look around a bit more, too.  They had some nice stuff.  They're closing up their cabin up on the mountain and it's most of the stuff from there.

I was going to wait until after Cathy came for my shopping list to go back and pick up the stuff I had her saving from the yard sale but I got a text saying it would be later than usual so I walked back down there and picked up a nice folding porch chair and a couple jars she was saving for me.  They have some nice stuff and it's selling fast!

I have to get some stuff started.  I have a new recipe to try today.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!

Good morning from an Interior with 61° and steady rain. Unfortunately, US Forestry or at least the Alaskan equivalent doesn't update until the afternoon. Last night starting about five-thirty, we had several brief thundershowers that finally settled into a steady rain.

Jane, I had never heard of or seen red cabbage and was able to find some interesting recipes by looking up Blaukraut. I guess it doesn't do well here, but since we often have cabbages up to 138 lbs, that seems strange.

I think the majority of the Olympic athletes are young, in their teens and twenties, and this must seem to be the culmination of dreams and hard work for them. I'm surprised they're not buzzing all over the place!

I used to love garage sales, and when I moved in, I had so many boxes and blue tubs stacked everywhere! Thirty-eight of books alone! And my place certainly showed it. Now I'm not bringing in anything unless two objects are leaving.

As a child, Gloria, we were allowed one food we didn't have to eat; mine was liver. Of course, all bets were off if we were visiting. Then we had to eat at least a small serving with no fuss. Once you named your food, there were no substitutions allowed.

In the Southeast portion of the state, they have dry riverbeds, but the biggest danger is mudslides in the summer and avalanches in the winter. Last summer, a mudslide buried half of a small town with a couple of people never found. They have volcanoes, two major earthquake faults, and thin strips of land on a bed of gravel between mountains and sea. It's a beautiful country, but I spent six years in Anchorage, and I'm positive not one of them passed without some type of earthquake or high wind.

Yesterday I watched some dry creekbeds with flash flooding on Youtube passing by, and it was frightening how fast they filled. I can see why people are told never to camp in a dry riverbed or creek.

Your blueberry pie sounds delicious! Our blueberries are smaller but sweeter than what I see in stores.

I don't think anyone in the healthcare field or those overpopulated by women goes into it for the money. Service industries don't bring in the cash that other industries do.

Amy, our hot temperatures are gone for now. Today's expected high was yesterday's low.

Amy, these are the wild blueberries. Our raspberries strawberries are also
smaller but better tasting than the commercial products sold in stores.

Anytime they plump them up for size, they lose flavor.

Well, the day sure has been interesting. I didn't accomplish what I had intended to do but another day will happen. My washer decided not to spin and drain..Mine you it is only 24 yrs old but it is a Maytag...remember  the lonely Maytag man??  Off we went to the appliance shop, only to find  no top loading washer!  they do have some (2) coming in in about 3 weeks .maybe. Gotta love this pandemic.

Patricia, all wild berries are packed in flavour, tiny but so full of sweetness and flavour. Well almost...wild grapes are a sour a all get out until they have a frost kiss them and then they are sweet.

Today was a gorgeous day!  First thing out when Mickie and I were walking we noticed that my friends down the street who spend their winters in Florida are closing their cabin in the mountains and they were having a yard sale to get rid of the things they used to make it homey.  I ended up buying a folding chair for the porch for $1.25 and a jar to keep dog treats for 50cents.  Can't say I didn't help them out!

When we were little, we were not allowed to say we didn't like something that was on the table for supper.  We had to take what my mother called a "no thank you" helping of it.  This was 3 bites and the size of the bites was subject to her approval.  I continued this with my kids when they were growing up and I remember explaining to them one night what constituted a "no thank you" helping.  As I finished, I looked around for support from my husband just in time to see him put 3 sliced cooked carrots on his plate.  He never did like them but he always ate his three.

I'm off to the haystack in a few minutes!  I've been watching the Olympics and my eyes are very tired.  They haven't entered slam shut yet but its not far off.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

A gentle rain last evening left a muggy morning here..

A day of rest, other than going back to the store for more blueberries that is it! This year seems to be a good year for berries.

Yesterday , when sitting out on the porch I noticed the leaves on trees across the road turning colour, same with the neighbours tree. At the top of his beautiful shaped Maple the leaves are tuning. The Mountain Ash berries are also turning colour.. does this mean early winter???

Gloria, I am going to bake a blueberry pie using your recipe. Will have to wait a bit as we are still working on the blueberry pie  just made.

Lloyd, good to see you.

Jane and Phyllis I am going to try a new chicken recipe in the AF will let you know if it is a keeper or not.

Now if Shirley would pop in and say hello.

Good morning everyone. Looks like we had rain over night, every thing was wethen I pulled up the shades this morning. I rembered I have a bottle of Melatonin last night so took one before I went to bed. At last I slept great  almost 9 hours without waking. I feel alive this morning, at least as alive as my back lets me. Not supposed to get higher than the mid 70's today. I noticed on the wea ther on  this PC for Regina's are the humidity is around 50 and I imagine they are feeling it. Unusual to get above the single digits there.

JANE  AMY  what is that med that calms your fur babies in a thunder storm? My daughter was telling me yest erday they had one of those loud and bright storms hit the other night and their dog was scared stiff. Their fur baby was a rescued one and is part chuhuahua and who knows what else.

AMY  both sons showed up here yest erday morning. Not often that happens and I love it when they are together. BILL has one of those flexable braces on his left wrist and trying hard not to use that hand. I feel bad for him because I know he does most of the work at home.

JANE  since my cooking days are over I will pass on anymore new recipes. I had one sis ter  tha t fried green cabbage and assed  the wide flat noodles to it, loved it and made it often, my 3 liked it, too. Now cannot find those wide flat  noodles anymore, now they are not as wide and are curly.

PATRICIA  liver was something I always hat ed and so did my 3. Of coursee their fa ther liked it with bacon and onions. OK I would coond the kids and I would eat  the bacon and he ate the liver. Now I don' t even have  to have  the smell of it nauseate me.

AMY  those wild grapes make the best  tasting jam. Mike has a lo tof  them along the brook near his property line but no one picks them, the trees they climb up are all loaded with poison ive and no one wants to get near that. I know when I have been to his home at harvest time I could smell them and they made my mouth water.

JANE  I have not seen any of the Olympics yet. Not really into the summer games I like  the win ter ones much more. Wonder if i t is cause I will take the cold winter months over  the hot humid summer time?

LLOYD  according to local forecast here not to get much above 75 or 76  today.

Time for me to get a move on here. Tomorrow morning I will not be here. Mike will take me to get my new glasses and be back before noon when Yvet te gets here.
Have a good day.

Good morning  from the Interior. We're going to have partly cloudy for the rest of the week other than rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. I believe we've seen the last of hot 80s weather as this last week is predicted to be in the mid-seventies. August is normally rainy and a further cooldown, and September and October are usually cool but beautiful.

I've nothing planned for today other than a last sweep for donations for the downstairs table and to figure out someone to do some minor assembling for me. I have a new floor mirror, shampooer, and tabletop spice rack that my hands are too clumsy to put together. I usually barter, but these are jobs most of us are no longer able to do. I will have to realize I can no longer do these projects and save my money on anything not fully assembled.

Gloria, is there no way your son could use a long-handled clipping tool to cut some of those wild grapevines so he could replant in a safer area? The med for calming frightened animals and or people is Rescue Remedy. I always ate the fried onions and salad whenever we had liver and onions.

Other than ice skating, I never was interested in the Olympics. If my friends or I were not participating, it just wasn't for me. I was an eighth-grade cheerleader for basketball simply because my boyfriend at the time was on the team. How crazy was that?

We used to play softball or soccer a lot, but I never watched others play. This town is sports mad with large groups of fields by every street park and schoolyard for baseball, softball, football, and soccer. In the winter, it is basketball, hockey, dog sledding, curling, and snowmobile racing.

We have an Ironman Triathlon, and there are golf tournaments, riverboat racing, Three-man teams traveling through the wild countryside in the summer, and 1000 mile dog racing in the winter.

Amy, I rarely make fruit pies anymore. I tend to freeze complementary fruits together and eat them with three kinds of frozen grapes or types of melon. I'm addicted to fruit this way. Sometimes I will freeze slices of peaches, pineapple, or different berries and mix them with sparkling water.

Patricia, I will make pies but we don't eat the pie fast enough so I share with the neighbours:)

This year the fruit has been so sweet and tasty! I have yet to get any raspberries yet. Hope to get some to do jam/jelly down.

Gloria, one year I was helping the neighbour do hay, rain was on the way and he put me on the bailer, while they drew the hay in. The day was so hot and the heat coming off the tractor didn't help,  they yelled for a break but since everything was going great with the bailer. (they can be temperamental.) I opted to stay in the field but asked for a drink when they came back. Little did I know what they would bring back......a small glass of wild grape juice and I was thinking oh boy I could down 5 of them. Drank the juice and it quenched my thirst...one little glass of that juice worked wonders!

Amy, I gather as much cleaned produce as I have and either slice or cut larger pieces into chunks to freeze on baking sheets. For berries or grapes, I freeze a mixture on baking sheets. Then I take one-gallon zip lock freezer bags and mix a good collection, usually orange and yellow, or green, red, and blue, per freezer bag.

Patricia, that sounds like a useful mix. Do you put them in smoothies also or just eat as they are?

I checked the green beans and they needed to be picked....then checked the yellow ones in the back and they also needed to be pick! Will deal with them another day..

I don't drink that many smoothies, probably less than ten my entire life. I like to munch on the fruit half thawed. I have also made a sweet pineapple red pepper jelly perfect for red meat or purchased a Habanero pineapple mango cooking and seasoning blend that's perfect for tacos, ribs, or stews.

Just checkin' in...or should I say checkin' out!  I'm on my way to the haystack.

PATRICIA, I'll watch the train trip tomorrow when I'm not sleepy.  It's one of the items on my "Todo list" if I ever made it to Alaska!  I'm sure I'll enjoy it but I'm also sure I'll envy all the people who are on the train!

I bought carrots at the Farmer's market today.  I don't know if I'm making soup with them or just canning them for later use.  I'll decide tomorrow.  (My Scarlett Syndrome!)

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Sunday night and I am just getting in to say HELLO.  We had two doggies and one grandson all weekend and I have been kept busy😍

This is the week that our immediate family will all be getting together.  Sadly our Boston Grands will not join us as they are at camp. I hoped to get some new group pictures but that isn't going to happen 😩

My Dad and Diane are dealing with a real mess in Arizona.  They had a storm a week ago that ripped off shingles and before they could get anyone to get out to fix it there has been more big storms and rainwater is pour in all over the house.  I hope we get better news tomorrow 🙏

I must say goodnight.  Pleasant dreams to ALL.

Good morning..

Starting out nice here at 61° but will soon change to frying weather. Need to label and put away the blueberries I canned yesterday. We are taking Jesse to the vet for his needles, this should be fun, and I will warn the girls that he can't hold his licker! He loves everyone and shows it.

Difficult to believe that this is the last week in July, once Aug is gone Fall is here!!

Better put my dancing shoes on and move it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Good morning everyone, glad I woke early enough to shower and have breakfas t before my son picks me up tp go for my new glasses. One more  trip out this week and I can stay home.Every time I go anywhere it takes a few days to recouperate. Do you wonder why I hate going anyplace these days? now y ou know why, even going to my son or grandson's homes for a holiday meal.

AMY  I will do a good job of eating a whole pie. These days Yvette helps me make it and eat it, too. Sometimes she will take a piece home for her husband.  There were 2 people here that  I shared with, one now living with her daughter and the other passed away. Cannot beat the taste of anything made from wild grapes.

PATRICIA  I always freeze things like blueberries on a cookie sheet before put ting then into containers/bags. T hey do not stick together then.

AMY  you grow the yellow stringbeans? Have not seen them around here for years. I always liked them better than the green ones. No fresh frozen or canned yellow ones for years now.

JANE  I like eating raw carrots more than cooked ones. Before I started having teeth extracted I wou ld make a snack or raw carrots, peppers and celery. Maybe when I get the false teeth I can go back to snacking like that again the the afternoons. Be tter than snacking on candy or cookies.

Have to get mmoving so I can be ready when Mike gets here. I really would like a nap now but I do want my new glasses so it will be better reading again.
Have a great day and hope it is a day of no thunderstorms for a change. Stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be a quickie this morning because I have two doggies waiting for their walk before the heat sets in!

I've been on line looking to buy an electric pressure canner.  They make them and everyone leads me to the page and shows me the picture with a banner under it that says "Unavailable at this time".  Must be lots of people buying them right now!  I have 4 local phone numbers to call as soon as they open and hopefully, one of them will have one....that's all I need...ONE!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Don't know when I posted in here last..... by the time I read & if anyone posts a link to watch, I forget to say all the things that go thru my head while reading.  And I used to could "multi-task" & never miss a beat! I did bookmark the link to the train ride across Alaska (be still my heart). Will watch it later.

Not sure where the time goes but the house certainly isn't any cleaner than a week ago. I have been running in circles to stores to find the "basics" and guess Covid has swallowed them up. It seems China is not sending stuff as fast as before because they know WE can't build or make anything any more. Sad world.

We had a T-storm come thru yesterday, not much rain but scared poor Tom-Kat. Cats are keeping me busy, yard keeping me busy & I think LAZY is my new middle name. Last evening I looked on Google for a couple friends from the art show days.... lost contact when they moved & nobody left to ask if they'd heard from them. Found both obits. At this age/stage only family remains to mourn, but I will feel sad thinking of never seeing them again.

It is humid here, I'm watering the front lawn, haven't heard if the mowers will come today or tomorrow. Last week was spend "waiting" it seemed, all week. I'm not real patient & am dead bent to not have other people wait on me, I think it's rude. I make a point of being early & would rather wait than be late. So last week was a test of nerves. The heat & humidity doesn't help at all.

I'm not dressed yet so better get a move on. I never put on a robe to putter around in when Cas was alive but find they are comfy, especially if I want to catch a few more zzzzzzs. It is a rare night when I get 6 hours straight, the cats are to blame (honest). Now & then I will close them in the other end of the house away from my bedroom & know it is better for all of us, but they act so pitiful going a whole night without hugs.  ::)

Good morning...

The trip to the vet wasn't too bad. The tech told me Jesse wasn't too bad in the office. Said they did have trouble trying to get his weight...87lbs +- as he wasn't sitting still on the scale.
Stopped at the furniture store and put a deposit on a new washer..not sure when we will get it but at least this one is ours. Recalculated the age of the old one and it wasn't 24 it was 27 years old! Now I will get one and hope it lasts 7 years!

We are off to the city to pick up items for us and our friends.

Shirley good to see you! I too would rather be early than late....never late, may be a half hour early but I will do the waiting not the person I am to see .

Patricia, are you still seeing /smelling smoke your way?

Gloria, I have green, yellow and purple beans this year. We love beans and so do the dogs. Sassy and Golden Girl would eat them raw but these two like them cooked.

Need to get a wiggle on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Well, Good Morning LLOYD and AMY and anyone else who shows up today!  We slept in today!  I woke up first and looked at the clock and it said 6:01!  I laid my hand on Mickie's tummy and she was still breathing!  We got up around 6:15!

It's almost time for the boinger and breakfast and then our walk.  Cooper is joining us but not until about 9:30 this morning.  After he gets here and settles in, I have a couple of errands to do and then I'm going to start getting the carrots ready to can.I have to give up on the Electric Pressure Canner for most of this year.  I actually called the factory that makes them after they said "unavailable".  I got a very nice lady who said that they don't expect to have any available until mid to late August.  She started listing all the places that MIGHT still have some and I'd already been to all their websites and got the "unavailable" notice.  I also got a HIGH recommendation from her so I'm on the right track!

AMY, I've heard of the purple beans but I've never seen any!  I prefer the green ones over the yellow but we did have yellow ones from my Dad's garden when we were growing up!

I guess I better get going.  I think my timer went off for Mickie's breakfast.  She isn't bugging me yet but it won't be long!  And I do have "stuff" to do before Cooper gets here!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, going to be another hot one here. Got up to 90 yesterday. Glad my son took me early to get my new glasses. I like these new ones and I can see good to read again.

JANE  never heard of electric canners before. Always something new on the market.

LLOYD  it started here yesterday with a nice blue sky but as the day went on the smoke from the western fires moved in.

SHIRLEY  like you I want no one waiting for me and my 3 are like me with being early for most things/appointments.

AMY  thanks for the giggles-picturing you wiggling.

Have a good day every one.

Grandson Helped me get the RV pulled out of the mud. and backed down to the house so we can un load the canned good's out of it and in to the house. we put one of those window Antunes, in so we can get local TV channels. works good but Now I have to staple the antenna wire In place. that is the only bad thing about it is cant put the wire in the wall Like for a out side antenna. but we get all sorts of channels, plenty of tv movies. Have a great day.

Been up a long time, like you, Lloyd, I'm ready for a nap!  Mowers have been & gone & I got the gates locked back up. Cats fed & all accounted for. Going to be a steamy hot day, Gloria, the kind you & I hate most!

Gloria, glad your glasses worked out good. I'm not sure about mine. I still take them off to use the computer even though they are "progressive". Can't believe how much they cost.

We had the craziest pop up storms yesterday & day before. Came out of nowhere, all of sudden the blue skies had mean looking clouds & we'd get a down pour, sprinkle a while & another downpour. The mowers said the ground was "squishy"... one lives not too far away & had 3" in his rain gauge but mine only shows about 1/4". I had the front sprinklers on an hour each zone yesterday to make sure the new grass would hold up today, since I knew it was time for the mowers. If we don't water early morning the wind blows too hard to do any good watering the rest of the day (most days).

Jane, every morning when the cats stay out all night I hold my breath until they show up for breakfast. I won't deny them their freedom but know they do have enemies in the wild and that includes crazy drivers speeding down the street. Will never get over finding the one baby smashed in the middle of the street on Christmas morning when I backed out to go to church. She was the one always at the door first for breakfast & Cas had been calling her & calling her, so worried. I realize one day another may be missing & will never know what happened, but promised them & myself they would stay "free" as long as I have a choice. Like your baby, getting older and never know what is ahead.

Amy, my husband's mother planted purple beans, they were "runners" or pole beans, I think. She really had a green thumb & tried different things. She canned until she got a monster freezer & from then on she cooked & froze. Typical southern cook, used a lot of "fat back" & grease of all kinds. Best food you ever tasted but after a week we always came home with "zits" on our faces! Her biscuits honestly melted in your mouth... no recipe so I never came up with the same texture even tho I always brought the self rising flour home, can get it in the stores here now. She switched from using lard in early years to Wesson corn oil before she died. Biscuits tasted the same.

Sorry about the washer, with the hard water we have I feel lucky when I get one to last 10 years. My poor old gas dryer is the avocada green from 1966-67 era. Cas replaced the belt several times over the years & it still dries faster than any electric the kids have. Thought it bit the dust last year but turned out to be a totally clogged vent!

Lloyd, I think my motorhome is itching to head to MO but it's too hot and I don't want to sit inside with the noisy AC running when I can stay home & do plenty of walking around inside & not have to listen to the AC running, last AC we had put in is quiet!

When Cas died I dumped the cable TV and bought those little flat antennas & plugged them in myself & no more spending monthly fees. I get GRIT for all those Westerns and all 3 local channels plus ME & MY & 30-50 more. I have TVs all over the house with an antenna for each. Some work better than others, depends on which way they stick on the wall (facing different directions). I'm satisfied, listen more than watch. I just use the "push pins" that came with the flat antennas to hold them in place on the wall.

Fitbit won't tell me my sleep score, says "no internet".... but since the computer works me thinks the Fitbit lies..........  Any time I get 6 hours I feel lucky, but last nights no cats inside to bother me so I think I did good. No spring chicken so won't wake up bouncing like those little great grands no matter how much sleep I get!  :D

Good morning from the Interior. It's cloudy and 56° out there and not expected to get much higher today or tomorrow with rain predicted. The last few days have been cool but dry, and most of the smoke has dissipated.

While next week will be warmer, the usual August cool- down, and rain is expected. Our usual pattern is a cooler, rainy August and beautiful September and October, leading to the first snow around Halloween. That's to say, if all goes normally.

Amy, the ravens, or at least the unmated juveniles are back from the mountains, but none of the trappers has mentioned seeing any early dennings in the bush. They, the media, ask them and the homesteaders because it's usually a sign of early winter. There are no signs of leaf droppings or color changes, and we're just inside of the arctic.

Farrah has been having zoomies the last couple of days, and it's entertaining as she has these hoarse growls while zooming.

I'm not putting anything up this year as my appetite changed with my weight loss, and I'm trying to use up what's already in the freezer. When I was growing up, we had almost an acre in a garden next to the house, and we had two freezers, one in the basement and one in the kitchen.

My folks, who also held down full-time jobs, had a traditional marriage where mom took care of the house and dad the yard. But we kids worked under both.

Patricia, being the last of 5 kids I think I helped more in the garage than in the house, except for when Mom was washing curtains. Did you ever have to help put the curtains on stretchers? I remember always have the bottom row to push on & fingers would get so sore from those sharp nails every inch.... hadn't thought about that in many years. For the most part I tried to stay out of sight & Mom wouldn't go find me (usually had my face in a book).

Speaking of zooming, I have a fly zooming past the sliding door & disappears as soon as I get the swatter in my hand. Sun coming in the window over the sink so probably where it's running to. They drive me nuts. Wishing all a good night, sweet dreams and God Bless. It is 8:00 pm & I still haven't had supper (cats were fed) or been to the river for several nights. Kind of been a zombie lately.  :(

Shirley, yes, I remember stretching the curtains but don't remember what was used. Only the three of us kids and parents expected that any jobs decided by either parent were a priority over all else, or else.

I grew up with two sisters and I was always the one drafted by my dad to help with the things he did around the house.  You know, "Honjane, go down to the kitched and catch this wire in the hole when I fish it down there".  Or, "Hold this while I go nail the other end down".  Or, "Sit on this end of this board while I cut the other end off".  It was always "hold this" or "wiggle that" or "hold the other end".  I learned how to do a lot of stuff just by watching while I held something in place.

I'm going to take Mickie out one more time, put the coffee on for tomorrow morning and then hit the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Better get the fog plows out as we have a thick layer of it this morning..
Yesterday went well, managed to get lean hamburg for half price so my work is cut out for me today. Meatball bean soup
and just hamburg to can will take most of the day. Friends are stopping in this afternoon to pick up items I bought in the city. I noticed prices are climbing  already!

Jane, like you I was Dads helper...and loved it too. He showed me many things that I have passed onto others. Remember putting windows? I enjoyed doing that job and many others. Winter time would find us in the basement melting lead in the coal furnace to make jigs and sinkers for fishing.

Gloria, I think my wiggle is down to a sash shay. If something doesn't get done today.....tomorrow is always another day.

Shirley, one fly.. pesky critters and they seem to know when you pick up that fly swatter and they disappear! I gave some purple bean seeds to the neighbour  ,she doesn't know that when you put them in water they have a 2 minute blanching timer in them and turn from purple to green!

Patricia, we have both crows and ravens here. Interesting to watch them both.

Crow is out there now telling others that breakfast has been served come and get it!

Better start the day gathering ,copping all the ingredients for the soup.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Mickie and I are off to the Vet for a week after checkup.  Don't know how Cooper is going to like being left behind!  But what must be must be.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning everyone. Well I had a good sleep in two hitches. It is a clear bright sunny day Here. Hope you all have a good day just as you like it. Not sure what we will do this morning, Nancy has a doctors appointment this afternoon. we have a portable antenna for the TV local channels. I am wondering if one of them would work in the r v when we are parked with it. It sure works good here at the house, fabless how many channels it gets here.

Good morning everyone.  65 now and nor supposed to go up much above 75 today. We had rain last night I heard no thunder but the lights blinked off for a minute or so and came back on then a few minutes later they went out again. Got my battery lamp on and started to check around when the lights came on again. Of course all of Cox was out. No TV interntet or phone. On the PC all I could get were the things installed in it. I just closed down as normal thinking it might be back when I got up this morning and I am back to the SS now. Went to bed and slept good for a change. Now I have t o reset the microwave and my alarm clock. It has a back up ba ttery but think I need a new battery because it was just blinking so unplugged it. I dislike resetting the time on that crazy clock. At times I think I would rather have one of the old wind up ones with the 2 bells on top. Remember those?
Enough of my problems. Where my daught er lives there is a narrow dry stream bed  tha t floods a li ttle whe it rains more up higher in the mountains. Monday morning she had an appointment in town and when they got gown to that dry bed it was flooded to about 90 feet wide. Of course they got out of the jeep and just stood back and watched the muddy looking water rush by. The man who takes care of t he banks on bot h sides had just finished snoothing them out with his trac tor when the first wall of wat er came rushing down, he got  out just in time. Someone on the other side  took a picture of the water when Regina and Gary were on the other side. He sent it to Regina and she emailed it to me. Wow looked like a wide river going by. Think I will send it  to Bubble so maybe she can post a link in here. I forgot  all I knew about posting pictures.

LLOYD  glad you now get  a lot of channels on TV. I get a lot more than I can wa tch but  a t times cannot find anything I want to watch so on the computer I go to you tube and find an old movie I can enjoy.

SHIRLEY  I was so anxious to get out of that office the other day I forgot  about getting the temples/ ear pieces fixed. they are sticking out through the hair behind my ears. They are alwas too long and straight and they have to fix them. Oh well one day I will ask my son to  take me back there and get them fixed. Twice I tried tho0se progressive lenses and never got used to them so went back  to bifocals.

PATRICIA  I don' t think weather is normal all over the globe this year. I know it has been crazy on this area of New England states.

SHIRLEY  my Mom was a finatic about windows and clean curtains. She would wash the windows every mon th and put up clean startched curtains, Wash the ones she took down byhand and st artch them and put a pair on the curtain stretcher. She woul anchor the 4 corners and pin the top row and then pu t the secon panel over the firs t one so when they were dry she would  take them off and fold the pair  to put away. She did love different curtains. I  tried several differnt things  to cu t the cable cord but  none of them would work on my TV. It just  will not  let me use them and I have had a few different techs here  trying t o set one of them up.

JANE  being the youngest with the one closes t in age was 7 years older I never had chores and my Mom would always tell me to go play. I  think she had no more patience  to teach me any thing. I remember asking if I could help and she sent me away.

AMY  Yvette was telling me about prices going up in the markets and already some shelves are just  about empty. She says I should stocking up on things I use all the time but I have little storage space here so would be hard to stock up. No fog here but the sky is overcast again. Don't think it is smoke af ter all the rain during the night.

Have a good day every one.

Good morning! We were supposed to have two full days of rain, but it started about five-thirty yesterday afternoon, and today is foggy and still raining.

I would have learned more if my father hadn't been so grumpy. We received more grouches than smiles and more regimented tasks. We were the infantry and he was the four-star general.

The day is getting less and less of it left.  I got the carrots all canned and ready for the shelf.  I forgot they HAD to be done in the pressure canner and since I couldn't get the new one I wanted, I'm glad the old one still works.  I have 9 pints...8 canned and 1 to eat now.  I always have a feeling of accomplishment when I finish a canning job!

PATRICIA, I keep forgetting to thank you for the train ride to Denali.  I loved every minute of it and I still would love to do it in person but I know it's never going to happen so it was very special to me to have it now.

Soon have to think of supper and I have some leftovers that have to be used up.  Now which ones should I eat today?

Hope Everyfriend's day is going well!  LLOYD sounds like you're enjoying you antenna.  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Tooooooo hot to do anything, can hardly breathe! The "heat index" is well over 100. My youngest son is stopping by soon so was clearing off the table (how to they get so messy?) Notes & stuff beside the computer & still piles of "do I want to do" things on one corner. Tom is laying outside the door, prefers the heat to AC.  Tiger is sleeping on the back of the sofa (I'd rather she didn't but she/cats do what they please.)

Patricia, I also wanted to thank you for the train ride & echo Jane's reasoning. I can dream, can't I?

For those of you who enjoyed the rail trip from Fairbanks to Denali National Park, here is a rail trip made in October 2020 from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The scenery, mountains, lakes, rivers, and rapids are wonderful!

Good morning..

Light rain and lovely temp at 56°. Yesterday was a busy one finished canning 7 quarts and 7 pints of meatball bean soup. Also cooked up 10 lbs of hamburg and will deal with that today. Picked both green and yellow beans, green we had with supper and yellow will be frozen.

Patricia, thoroughly enjoyed  the train rides. We have been to Alaska and it is a beautiful place. This means of travel via internet is the only way we will see more of Alaska.

Shirley, way too hot!! Hope you found a cool place to enjoy. Would a dip in your pool help or is it like bath water with those temps?

Jane, guess you and I got canned yesterday. Nice to get it done but now I have the job of labeling and putting away.

Gloria, it is like that here ,empty spaces on the shelves. We have ordered a new washing machine and maybe....just maybe it will be here in 3 weeks. I am trying to can and put things away for winter as we don't know what is in store for us.

Lloyd, hope you and Nancy have a good day today.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're up and attem today with a lot on the agenda...some of it paper work which I dislike intensely!

AMY, you outdid me with the canning.  I'm trying to be objective and only can stuff that I know I'll use.  I'm sure that's what you're doing, too but your doggies are a lot bigger than my "old lady" and I'm sure none of that meat will go to waste!

Davy's is having a majory beef sale right now but I just can't see myself making smaller packages of anything they have except the hamburger and I stop by that almost every time I go there.  I haven't bought it yet because I really don't have freezer space and I've never canned it.  Is it time consuming, hard or just bit messy!

I'm pretty sure it's almost time for the boinger so I better get my ears on so I can hear it.

I wish Everyfriend and good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jane, if you can can soup you can can  :2funny:  hamburg...sorry so many can cans.  I cook my hamburg up, put it in hot jars fill with hot water or broth. I use a tsp of powdered beef broth or you can just use a 1/2 tsp of PICKLING salt ..

Hang on..will get the url for you..

Good Morning everyone. well about ground beef, we now days take it a butcher shop and have it processed And frozen. hamburger steaks, and roasts. in years past we processed it our self. cooked the roast cut It up put in quart jars covered it with the broth, and water bathed it. you could open a jar of it add some patois and carrot pieces a great soup or stew , and healthy. that is why my waste line looks like it dos. but i have learned to eat smaller amounts and have lost 31 lbs this summer. working on more would like to get back to in the 180 lbs. aria again. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone, no rain over night for a change and I could see a blue sky and a few puffy clouds when I opened the shades this morning. From 7 am to 3 pm I will have  to stay up here on the 3rd floor. They will be checking out the eleva tor and make sure it is in good working order. Yvette will have to come u p the stairs today. Glad she went to the store and the pharmacy yesterday. Should be an easier day for her today. She has a wonderful sense of humor so I know we are in for some good laughs today. 64 now and only supposed to get to 74 but rain starting about the time she leaves here. Will have to see how good those weather guessers are or now bad the are. No Tstorms in the forecast till 2am. That's OK I will be sleeping at that time-I hope.

PATRICIA  MY DAUGHTER AND sil work the way your parents did. He takes care of outside and she in the house. With just the 2 of them the housework gets done fast and she will go outside to see if she can help with anything. Since she had sur gery and he had to vacuume and help with the dishes after their dinner he still does those 2 things. Love the way they work together. My okdest son surprised me when he started helping in the house after he retired. Last time my DIL came to cut my hair he came with her and he surprised me by getting the broom ans sweeping up all the hair and then got the dustpan abd brush to get it up and throw away nd put things back where they belong.
Younger has always done the cooking and mos t of the housework, too, after working all day. His wife is so lazy I would like to shake her and their daughter is like her. I feel so bad for him. When he comes here on Saturday mornings he looks so tired some weeks.

JANE  we had a cool basement and had different rooms. The coolest room is where I kept all the full caned jars. When I would go dows=n for something I loved seeing all they them on the shelves and felt so good to know I did all that. My husband found an old icebox and in that I kept the jams I made. Some years it was so full I could not get all the jars in it.

PATRICIA  I will take that trainride when I finish reading here. I still have the link to the bears at the waterfall and the salmon jumping over the falls. I want to show it to Yvette today. She told me yesterday that a black bear was sighted in this state and I told her that was not new. There is a walking path near here and they closed it a couple of years ago because of a black bear sighting in town She never heard of that before. There has been reports of sightings here in town for the last 4 years and she lives in this town, too.

JANE  when my 3 were very young and I got them into bed I always said-sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite. One night Mike the okdes asked what bedbugs were. Something we never had, thank God. My Mom was always worried about them so every week when the sheets were changed she would get the sprayer filled with Flit and spray the mattresses and spring. Never had any either.

LLOYD  hope you slept good last night

AMY  I am a homebody and never would have gone to California if my daughter hadn't moved there when she moved there. With the coming of the compputer I became am armchair or computer chair traveler. The west always fascinated me and really loved Arizona the year Regina and Gary took me there. Seeing all those mountains and riding up and down them I think I was like a little kid. Regina told me later that she enjoyed how much I loved the week spent there. I used to have a freezer that I had no room for here so left at my son's house and I froze a lot of food. I would make a good meal and had some con tainers wi th 3 different places for food and filled them for the freezer. I miss that and still dislike most frozen TV dinners from the markets, too many preservatives and sodium in them. I cannot cook anymore, standing really gets my legs wobbly and my back hurting more. I can walk with my rollator and that does not get to me like standing does. I tried  high stool but had no place for my knees so gave it up.

JANE  I never canned any meat but I sure canned what came from  the garden.

AMY  reading the mea t canning and jad a laugh at the word debubbling. New one for me. I did  remember to do that last year when Yve tte and I made refridgerator pickles with all the pickling cukes my son gave me. After getting the jars full I took the handle of a wooden spoon and put it down into the jars and move it around ans she asked wha t I was doing t hat for. I told her getting rid of bubbles if there are any. She thought I was making that up because she did not  see bubbles or air pockets. I looked close and saw a bubble and showed it to her.  That is quite a link. I checked it and will send the link to Regina. She is pretty new to canning so might help here learn more. She has the Ball canning book, I had that book too when I started canning. Hmm wonder if we should start calling you the Can Can Can Can lady?

LLOYD  when you made up your mind to lose a few pounds you really lost a lot. Better health for you.

Have a good day everyone kep cool and safe.

Good morning; it's another chill and rainy day for us, but tomorrow is to be warmer, and next week to be back into the mid-eighties. Very unusual August weather for us.

Kodiak, Alaska, had a shallow 8.2 earthquake and tsunami warning last night at 10:30 and an evacuation. However, while a tsunami was generated, it wasn't a large one, and the warning was downgraded to an advisory. This far north, we didn't feel anything; their earthquake didn't trigger our fault line as the quake was shallow.

I'm glad the train trips were appreciated, and Jane, you'd be a welcome guest. It's too bad that Pat Scott's magic bus is no longer running.

We had bedbugs in the building some years back, and even one apartment on my floor was infected. They came and inspected all apartments, and everyone, all five floors, had to remove everything and place it on the balconies while they sprayed, waited four days, and stayed a second time.

It turns out that someone had dumped an infested couch by the dumpster across the street, and someone from the building had gone and brought it into this building. I never saw a single bug, but I broke out in hives and felt every stray bit of air was a bedbug.

I'll be shopping prior to the fourth for our local get-together, and I hope to see full shelves. We're back to more cases with the Delta and one other variant and depend on outside shipping for our groceries. I miss the ethnic groceries. None of them have reopened, and I hope they will eventually. I've had my two vaccinations, and I still wear a mask. This city is still on the lockdown instituted in March 2020.

Amy, you and Jane have been busy! I no longer can, and I've been eating from my freezer's meal prepping. I no longer eat as I did until February. I lost 20 lbs with my sprain and another eleven since then with the new anti-inflammatory diet. I dislike most greens, such as kale or collards, and cannot get that excited over only fish or chicken anymore. On the other hand, I haven't had an allergy attack in months and feel so much healthier that any griping feels unnecessary and childish.

I sent your canning recipe and Lloyd's to my sister, so thank you both!

Hi Gloria! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and perhaps Yvette too! I don't think I remember being in Arizona, but I know we visited an aunt and uncle in Flagstaff in the fifties. I'm sure it's changed some since then!

Patricia, I am happy to read no allergy attacks. You have worked hard at this and it is paying off. No fun giving up the foods you enjoy but if it makes your life better then that is the way to go.

Today has been busy, hand washing laundry, vacuum packing meat and then some yellow beans.  I have no idea on what supplies will be like this winter but I do know we will be fine.

Well, I'm heading for the haystack!  It's been a busy day!  I got a lot done but most of it doesn't show.  First off, I stripped both beds and washed everything right down to the bare mattresses and then put it all back on.

I guess, when Frankie goes on vacation next month, we're going to have Cooper stay here.  I think he'll be more comfortable being somewhere that he knows than going to my daughters and having a stranger look in on him.  And Mickie will love having him here.

AMY, I got the meat canning directions, and the Muskoka Baked beans but I didn't see Meatball bean soup.  Maybe I missed it.  I'll go back and look again when I finish here.

Gloria, your trip west reminds me of my first trip to Texas after Cindy moved there.  We did a 3 day trip from where they lived in the Dallas area in a circle down through Texas Bluebonnet country when the flowers were blooming!  It was breathtaking.  Everywhere you looked there were flowers.  Even the motels where we stayed looked out on fields of bluebonnets.  You can't believe it until you see it!

I better get off here before my eyes go into slam shut mode.  I don't want to be running into things when I'm getting ready for bed.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

We were off and running this morning. One store here opens at 7 am and I like to shop without the crowds. They must have had lots of customers yesterday as they were all out of hen fruit! Picked up what we needed and now to work around home and pick more beans, Once they come on you can pick pretty near every other day. Dogs like them also in their food.

Jane will email you the recipe for the soup...

Need to get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone. A beaut iful sunny morning. We did have some rain yes terday afternoon. We were supposed to be without the elevator on Thursday and Yvette was ready to come up the stairs when she found the elevato working. A new note under my door this morning, they will be checking it out on Monday now. Will be without it from 7am to 3pm. I will not be able to go out even if I wanted to. Can you picture me trying t o go down 2 floors with my rollator? I wonder which would fall down the stairs first.
Cox was out aging during the night, why this time I have no idea. TV PC and phone out when I tried getting in earlier today. Almost every month the price goes up a few dollors and the service gets worse. I sure wish we had a choice of who we want to service our machines. Enough complaining for the day, I promise.

PATRICIA  last evening I finally got to watch the train trip to Fairbanks. I sent the link to Arizona, I know my SIL will enjoy watching it, he really is into trains. He now has a train lay ou t around some of the property,  the bigger model trains, wit h bridges and tunnels and every thing to make the photos he t ook to make it look real. He has a layout in his hobby room too. That one he keeps changing.

AMY  my daughter has a good supply of those freeze dried meals in a sealed can. If that dry bed floods again like a few days ago they will not go hungry. The foods they came up wit h for the astonauts will get them through for a few years. Almost everyone there has a supply of them for emergencies. When it is self suffecient that means being prepared for anything and everything.

JANE  one time when I went to Dan Diego they  took me out to the desert and it was spring after the rains and it was in bloom. All colors of flowers and some very tiny. It  is amazing wha t grows in the dry desert. The different cacti with all those needles/spines that have such beaut iful flowers.

LLOYD  looks like we both are starting with the same temperature this morning.

Think I will have Yvette go to a local restaurant for fish and chips for our lunch today. Have not  done that lately and we both really enjoy it. Takes about 10 minutes to get there and still hot when she gets back. I try giving her money for gas because  the company gives t hem very little for gas money and she refuses to take anything but this fish and chips she will eat and enjoy . She really helps me so much in ways that are above the job description. Last week she went out almos t every day on an errand and she is allowed to go only 2 times a week. Her choice and she keeps coming up wit h t hings I might enjoy or want.

Have a good day and hope it is dry or rainy wha t ever you wan. Stay safe and happy and healthy.

Good morning..

Weather is sticking with 57° at the moment. Love LOVE this cooler weather!

Busy day ahead  here. Off to a friends garage sale..then into town to pick up cucumbers then home to pickle.

Life can throw one some curves, some good and others not so good. My friend ,her husband in the hospital put their house up for sale (sold in two weeks)She had a place to go to in the city while he was going into a nursing home. She phoned to say that he had passed away...but the sale must go on as she has to be out of the house for the new owners to move in. A trying time on her part but thankfully her children, grandchildren and friends all pitched in making this a more tolerable move.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Amy, I've heard houses are selling faster than expected because so many of US haven't checked the market of today & prices are really out of whack. Can you imagine what it costs (lumber) to build a house now?  Afraid a lot of houses will go back like some years ago, because the market will drop & houses not worth the mortgage. Sad that happens & so very sorry for you friend caught in this crazy times. Thank goodness she does have family to help her thru.

Good morning to all, it is a HOT day here. Cats all outside, they don't like my cold house!  I did put the thermostat down to 76, but up during the night to 78. Everyone I talk to has theirs at 71 or 72 but that's too much difference in & out for me.

The chiggers aren't biting me since I got out the baby oil mixed with B-1 vitamin.... I just pour a little in the palm of my hand & rub my ankles to knees & what's left on my hands I wipe around my neck & ears, keeps the mosquitoes away from my head & those chiggers quit biting me. I do have the 100mg B-1 & think I may have smashed several (one this year) in the bottle of baby oil I got at the $Tree.  This is the 2nd year for that bottle & I do have another ready to open when needed.

Good morning everyone, a nice cool one in the lower 50's. Last night on local news the weather guesser said it could get down to the 40's over night. That is cold after the heat and humidty we have been having, not to mention all the thunderstorms and rain almost every day  this month. I don't think August can be any worse than July has been. Sun is shining now and the sky is blue but if it is like other days this month the sky will be overcast and by late afternoon it will be plain rain or another storm.

JENNY  I know just how you felt with Jonah, that is how I feel with my great grandson. Every time I see him he comes to me with hugs that get tighter all the time as he gets stronger. He turned 6 a week ago and is still a sweetie. Happy 54 years to you and Bob.

PATRICIA  I watched the Alaska train ride yesterday and enjoyed it. That is a long ride taking 12 hours. I have only been on a train a few times but never with the luxury of that train.I sent the link to my daughter and SIL and bet he will wish they could get on it.

LLOYD  the AC I have now keeps me nice and cool, much better than the portable one I had.

JANE  hope Cooper gave you no trouble last night. Hope you were nowhere near those tonadoes tha t came t hrough your state. Saw it on the news yesterday.

AMY  I sen t that  link y ou post ed to Regina. I know she misses her big freezer and does not have too big a one in her fridge. She said she likes the idea of canning the hamburg. They canno t always ge t into town-like last week when the dry bed flooded a few days ago to at leas t 3 times it width. No one could get  out and some could not get home.

SHIRLEY  I have the temperature on my AC set at 75 and it goes off and on as needed but in the afternoons when the sun is hitting this side of the building it seems to run all the time.

Have a good day and keep cool. Better go get dressed for the day before Bill gets here for his weekly visit. I still miss the apartment I had in his house.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PATRICIA!  AND MAY YOU BE BLESSED WITH MANY MORE HAPPY DAYS!

I loved the bagpipes.  I think they might be my favorite form of music and it must be the Scottish blood that runs in my veins!

It's been a good day here.  I hope yours were all good ones, too!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! I'm beginning my seventh decade, so I don't know about the baby bit  🐣

I remember the woman who had the six sons always said I was a little young at 52 to be joining SeniorNet. She started calling me the baby senior, and Norm, PJ, Glen, and Jerry from Holland (I don't remember what his name onsite was) started calling me that too. Except for working still, I wouldn't mind going back to my fifties.

I feel the get-together on the 4th will be for my birthday and Liam's, whose birthday was the 22nd. He called today about everyone has a different story on just what's happening, so now I'm suspicious too.

Jane, I also love the bagpipes. I'm 2% Norwegian, 4% Swedish, 29% Welsh, and 21% Scottish (Johnston, Black Watch), with the rest Irish according to family and Ancestory.com. So, I'm claiming the pipes too.

Amy, I've never heard of beet pickles altho I have pickled beets with a hard-boiled egg in the jar. So is that the same? I'm also a dill fan, and garlic dills are my favorite.
