BEYOND THE CROSSROADS
Cliff Sterling  - Jul 28, 2000

When I look into the mirror,
I do wonder how it can be,
that an old man looks back at me.
Where on earth has this old man been
for all of those many lost years -
too few laughs and too many tears.

From manhood, up to the crossroads,
those prime-of-life youth years just flew;
those happy years were all too few.
From youth to old age was a blur.
Life's tribulations took their toll.
Now, I'm simply wrinkled and old.

As I look into the mirror,
far beyond the facial lines,
I seek most a heart that is kind;
one with consistent compassion;
a heart forever forgiving -
to share lessons with the living.

I assessed my very being,
far deep within my ageless soul.
Was I wiser as I grew old?
Was my spirit all it could be?
Were my pure thoughts too far away,
when I humbly knelt to pray?

The human jungle was my cross.
Unable to meet its demands,
I mustered courage - made my stands.
Winning battles, but loosing wars,
the struggles had a human price!
I was at my end more than twice.

Only after utter defeat
did life become pure and golden -
returning years that were stolen.
I was led to the right crossroad
and received my award at last.
My trials were in the distant past!

Retirement is traumatizing
to many I am well aware,
but I find a safe haven there.
My spirit and youth are renewed.
Oh glory be, oh glory be,
I found my niche, and I am free!

A Gardener's Blessing

May the bunnies never nibble on your young
and tender shoots,
May your transplants settle in and put
down hardy roots,
May your weeds come out real easy and your
lawn be fungus free,
May you never put your back out or
inhale a bumblebee,
May your roses never stab you or
your hoses spring a leak,
And may everyone come calling when
your garden's at its peak,
May you never grow too weary as you toil
for hours and hours,
And may you never be too busy to stop
 and smell the flowers!

When free, the mind is naturally serene, just as unstirred water is by nature limpid and clear.

Ahh yes, that " unknown " gardener knows what he - she is talking about, the perils of gardening...those rose thorns and weeds that take over quicker than we blink an eyelid...Thank you bubble for starting our new week off.....

I will savour todays quote, yes to free the mind...

Good morning...

Rain during the night and just maybe it has stopped for the day. I wish we could share this rain  ,either that or start building an ark!

Labeling and putting away the dill pickles  and that is it...a day of rest here! Kyle is finishing up on another shop for his village....a quilt shop and a bake shop. Hospital with helipad is now up amongst the rest of the village.

We went to the garage sale yesterday, everything needed to go and I couldn't help but watch my friend as she watched people take away items that she had. Family was such a big help to her, they are going to down size her vehicle from a van to a small car ,much easier for her to park in the city. Her daughter lives in the area she is moving to and will have constant contact with her, one son is close by in a village just outside of town but will also keep an eye on her.

Bubble love the new start page. Since we have been retired we seem to be busier than ever! As for old age, that is a stage in life denied to many.

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

On the run, usual for a Sunday morning. All cats ate their breakfast & sittin outside in the fresh air. We had some rain overnight, couldn't have been much but the concrete is wet. Youngest son called last night to say he'd be over today to clean out the berm... the young trees have taken over and he does love the yard work. Both of his grandmothers would be proud that he is as good with plants & the yard as they were.

Bubble, thanks for the new page and I love every line of the text & your hawk as well as Phyllis' busy street scene. You do put a lot of thought into a new start for us!

Amy, I think what your friend is dealing with we can all relate to (parting with our life of stuff that we put together, all the things we thought we needed). My heart goes out to her.

Big hug to all that stop by, grateful for this day and new month (we'll get to fall sooner).  ;)

Shirley, she  has a lot of family and friends willing to help her, which is nice.
I think we both could share the rain with those battling forest fires, if only one could. I am going tp purge a lot of items, some the kids can use others they don't want..eg dishes  china.

Colder weather can't come soon enough for me and I do think it will be early judging by the signs about. These dogs are leaving enough hair EACH day to make a St Bernard!!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Nice new start for our "home" here.  Thank you BUBBLE!  Back when my mother was in the
"wrinkle stage", she came out of the downstairs bathroom and said, "Every time I look in that mirror, there's this old lady staring out at me. I wonder who she is?"  She could have written that one poem.

Mickie and I have had breakfast and a nice long walk this morning and I'm ready to get my shower and get ready for church.  Maybe a quick stop at the Farmer's market on the way home.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good grief Charlie Brown...highway is  heavily peppered with cars, town is like a ball of worms with tourist. Come on Fall and Winter although today  feels more like Fall with it being damp and a temp of 57° . Think I will put a fleece top on to chase away the chill.

Lloyd, what all do you put in your casseroles?

Amy, we started at 57 at 4:16 AM and are headed to cloudy skies and 85°.
Yesterday was in the low eighties, too, but I agree it feels like an early fall. Farrah is having a lot of zoomies and accompanying them with hoarse growls.

I read about the fires in Europe, primarily Eastern Europe and Spain, Greece, and Turkey. People have to leave everything behind, and they're evacuating by sea. Some are also, like Belgium, having both catastrophic floods with those never before seen fires.

Patricia, we are up to 61° now and the sun is fighting the clouds to peek through. About an hour ago I was checking on the bed when a huge invisible sleep monster pulled me in..well ,that is my story. Must have fought with the dogs to because both of them were at my feet :)

I forgot to answer your question about the beets. I pickle them , will send you the recipe and you just may want to try it. Consists of cooked beets, sugar  water and vinegar.

Amy First of I tell you I enlarge the recipe, the orginal calls for three cups of cooked rice (minute rice) i use, one can of cream of mushroom sup, sixteen ounces of sour cream, spread that mixture in the bottom of 8x16 baking dish, then cover that with about 1/2" of shredded cheddar cheese, dice up cooked Ham ( i get those boneless cooked ones) at walleye world. I cut the Ham about 1/2" thick and cut it in bite pieces. then I alternate the Ham bites and Jalpino's slices back and fourth across the top of that, then cover that 1/2" or 5/8 or so deep of cheddar cheese Bake at 350º Untill melted and bound to sut.

A good Sunday August First to EVERYFRIEND❣️

Thank you, BUBBLE for our fresh new page to enjoy.  I enjoyed your nice poems you added.

I have so much to be thankful for, and yet I am feeling a bit down today knowing that our anticipated family time together is over and the time just went much too quickly😩😢

I thank you all for the nice anniversary wishes.  We did enjoy a nice day and we all know how special these years are together.

JACKIE, your cad was enjoyed by both an appreciated❣️ Thank you ❣️

PATRICIA, I made a HAPPY BIRTHDAY message to you, and now I do not see it.  I do hope your day was a good one. LOL at being called the "baby senior".
I, too, love the bag pipes.  There is a man in our area that goes out in the evenings and plays until sunset.  We never had the opportunity to see or hear him even though we have tried many times.  He will not enter our area because we are a gated community within the community.  Many years ago my mom was at a gathering of ladies in a private home.  One ladies husband came to pick her up, but did not know which house she was in.  He got his bag pipe out and started playing....she heard him and came out😃🤣🤣

AMY, lucky Kyle having lots of Jason of pickles to enjoy😘 Bless your friend that lost her husband.  I do hope she has a good support system to help her get the home cleared out for the new owners.

Time to think about dinner.  Enjoy the evening.

Jenny

LLOYD, your casserole sounds gooooood!  And I like the jalapenos.  A little zip is tasty!

I made a venison roast for supper and there's enough left over for two suppers for me and two batches of doggie food!  It was a big roast!  But it came to me already frozen so I had to cook the whole thing.  Made carrots in the roaster with it and brussels sprouts in the A/F.  Good supper!  More good supper tomorrow and Tuesday.

We got some rain today.  The report said "severe thundershowers" but it was just a nice soaking rain for about a half hour and then the sun came back out.  The temp never got above 75 today.  I don't know what to expect any more.

I'm off to the haystack!  Tomorrow will be another busy day and I think Frankie will be stopping by.  She had a dinner date with a nice guy that she met through a friend and I'm anxious to hear how it went.  She doesn't really have much luck with guys but there has to be at least one out there who is right for her!

I think I say good night before my eyes go into Slamshut mode!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Another lovely day in the making...temp is 47°.
Working around home after I go and gas the vehicle up.
Both dogs really like the canned hamburg that I did, cleaned their breakfast up fast! Crow is now quiet as I threw his breakfast out to them.

Better get moving..

Gloria, where are you??

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The temp hasn't made it out of the 50s yet this morning and is only heading for a high of 79.  This sure isn't the August I remember!  But I'll take it!

Today is the day of the month that I detest the most!  Bill paying day!  It's not so much spending the money, I just don't like paper work!  Of course, I really don't like spending the money either.  That makes it a double whammy!

And I'm going to have to go get dressed pretty quick because Mickie is about to tell me it's time for her walk.  So I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. I had a lazy day yesterday and did not even turn the computer  on till Skype time. Dozed on and off all day and slept good last night.

PATRICIA  happy belated birthday. Since we don't make the birthday greetings in PSP I lost track of all the birthdays. At times I think if Yahoo hadn't dropped all the groups I would have got back into PSP, I really enjoyed it, especially the stationery, some of those tutorials were a challenge. Then again Incredimail closed down. My oldest son is bout 7 weeks older than you. His Bday is July 2.

AMY  this week my daughter will be making her first batch of zucchini relish. She has to make enough so my SIL has enough to last a year. Before she is done she will make at least 40 pints of it. He never cared much for relish before she started making it but will use a half pint at a meal. He is eating a bigger variety of food since he married my daughter. His mother was a terrible cook, and it was eggs and packaged meals mostly. When Regina and Gary got marrie and were traveling to San Diego his mother stocked the freezer in their fridge with TV dinners that she served every night. Like me Regina never liked TV dinners.

JANE  my MIL was Scottish and would have loved those bagpipes.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new page for August. I love Beyond the Crossroads. It sure fits most of us here. Where did those days go when we were to young to appreciate them?

AMY  we have had 3 days of cool temperatures and low humidity and NO rain. Rain is due again sta rting Wednesday for 3 days according to local weather forecast.

SHIRLEY  like you I am looking forword to autumn and weather we need to wear a sweater or light jacket when going outside and windows open again, not to mention the colors of the leaves.

AMY  I had to get rid of many things when I moved here. I still have the set of my Mom's china that no one in the family wants and I cannot part with. Most likely my kids will jst throw them away as they have all the china they need an use. With big family gathe rings they now use sturdy paper plates so don't take out their  "guest" best dishes.

LLOYD  I used to love hot peppers but now I cannot enjoy them any more. My son still grows some in his garden every year.

CALLIE  great seeing you pop in at last, you have been missed here in the SS.

JENNY  family gatherings never happen often enough and are always over before you want them to be.

JANE  I hope Frankie's date with the hew guy was a good one and there will be more of them.

They are working on the elevator here today. I saw their truck come in before 7. The notice we got from the witch said between 7 and 3pm. That means I cannot go anywhere until they are done. They have to check it every year. Yvette will have to come up the 2 flights of stairs when she gets here.

Have a good day and hope wherever you are the day stays cool and the humidity low and enjoyable.

I, too, love the pipes.  The "skirling" of the pipes from over the walls of Stirling Castle on a misty morning in Scotland is one of my treasured memories. We were so lucky to travel several times in Scotland and loved every minute of it.

Thank you, Bubble, for the graphic.  Big surprise to open Soda Shoppe and see it!  It is one of my few attempts at a more abstract scene.

Happy Birthday, Angel.

Happy Anniversary, Jenny and Bob.

I'm so sorry that I've missed special days for friends but I am sending best wishes to everyone now.

My mother used to can Pickled Beets, Amy.  I'm not a beet lover but I like he pickled ones.

Take care, All.

Good morning from a sunny Interior at 58° and headed toward 86°. Tomorrow is also bill paying and hunter-gathering, and hopefully getting a haircut, day for me as I need fresh ingredients for the green salad I'm making for the fourth. It includes sliced peaches and Roquefort crumbles.

Amy, I noticed the blue skies aren't as vibrant either, more of pastel, but I'm not looking forward to an Arctic winter and all the chilly cold that comes with it. I like autumn's glories, but I love summer's brief heat.

Our summer is very short. Winter runs from about Halloween to Easter, not counting our unusual 2020-2021's length. And midwinter's day comes with only five daylight hours.

Thank you, Gloria, for the belated birthday greetings, and I wish your son the same.

I hope everyone's day is going well and that any bad is minimal.

Couldn't remember if I checked in this morning... one of those days. Past noon & still not dressed but was running around in my winter housecoat!!! Love it. BUT, warming up & I gotta run errands.

Main thing I keep forgetting to tell y'all is that my brother got me started with the "Aunt Nellie's" brand of pickled beets, they really are like Mom used to can. I like the baby ones best & just eat them out of the jar like brother, Jay, did. I keep a jar in the frig all the time & pull it out when the hunger strikes. Yummy!

Need to get rolling.  Gloria, I also wish we could have the PSP Steps going again, now that I have plenty of time to understand & remember what to do. I've mentioned before that I bought several newer versions to go with Windows 7 & 10 but couldn't understand how to set up the work space. One version was especially for working with Photos but, alas, I failed..... :-[

Hey there all y'all!  It's been a different kind of day.  I did a lot of cleaning up outside while Frankie did a lot of cleaning up inside!  My floors and counters and tables and all that stuff are all clean and a lot of the weeds are gone outside.  Now, mind you, I didn't say "all" of them are gone but I put a pretty good dent in the job.

Ground up a lot of the venison for dog food and I have enough to make 2 batches.  Mickie will appreciate that.

I did all the banking up to date including the bills that are the same every month and I only have to wait for a couple of them to come in.  And then I also have to get my property taxes paid this month and that's a biggy!  But it's nice to know there's enough money there to pay them.

I watered the tomatoes (I have a couple pink ones) and took the doggies for their last walk of the day! And I ordered some stuff I need!  Now I'm almost ready to check the haystack for zzzzzs.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Another day of sunshine with a bit of cloud, temp is sitting at 50° at the moment.

We are off to another town but first we are picking up a orbital sander in the city then go across country to the town. Shop in 3 stores then home again. We will do the trip to the town again on Sat, hopefully to pick up a portable washing machine that will see us through until our new one comes in. This will save me from going to the laundromat plus save money as it is $5.00 for each washer load.

Janie, sounds like you had a full day yesterday and so did Frankie, she sure is a blessing to you.

Patricia ,my favourite  seasons are Spring and Fall and Winter now..

Shirley, Kyle loves pickled beets but I will help him eat these. I like them when we have grilled cheese sandwiches but likes them all the time.

Phyllis, I love the pipes. Where I grew up a man two street over would play the pipes in the evening and the sound would grace your ears.

Gloria,I am going to start purging so that there will be little left to do ...all but my fabric :)

Better get a move on here

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning All Y'all!  Well, we're right in the middle between LLOYD and AMY with our temp...5 degrees cooler than LLOYD and 5 degrees warmer than AMY.  We're only heading for a high of 78 today.  This isn't like any August I can remember.  August usually sizzled!

Yes, AMY, Frankie IS a blessing!

Today is a "maybe" day.  I ran across my info for a local venison store and since I just finished off the last of my Christmas venison, it seemed like opportunity knocking.  I might try to make a trip down there one of these days and stock up with enough to get me through to Christmas.

Today would actually be a good day for a drive.  It's supposed to be cloudy and I like "cloudy" for driving anywhere.

I woke up with a leg cramp last night and had to run to the fridge for some gatorade.  It always amazes me how quickly about 8 gulps of gatorade can treat a leg cramp.  And I have my grandson back at the age of about 12 or 13 to thank for that little bit of info.  I had a cramp in my leg at their house once and when I mentioned it, he never looked up from his meal...just said "give her some gatorade".  They did and it worked.  Now I keep gatorade around!

Time to take the doggies for their morning walk!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone, I woke early, not quite 6 am so here I am with my coffee to start the day with my cyber family. 54 now and 77 for a high. Like these temperatures. My daughter is in for low  triple digits today and a few more days. Well the elevator guys were here before 7 yesterday and no one here to let them in. The new maintenance man does not live in the apartment available for him, he has a house and a wife and 4 kids. Then the witch never gets here till after 8:30 and her peon does not work on Monday.  They must have called the main office because the peon showed up to let them in and he left. They were done about 2 pm and left. Tried  to talk Yvette into not  coming because of the stairs but she knew I needed her so she came. She had to sit and massage her knees when she got here. At least she could go down in the elevator when she left.

PATRICIA  don't think I would like only 5 hours of daylight although at times in the winter the days are kind of dark all day. The sky here now is weird, the clouds are a funny gray color, don't remember ever seeing them this shade before.

SHIRLEY  I think the version of PSP I have installed is 12. T he last one I bought was 16 and I installed it and a week lat er uninstalled it and it is just sitting there in the box. I liked 12 much better. I also have the old Jask 8 ins talled only for the animation and I never cared for that much, hate the blinking but like the softly falling snow effect.

JANE  wish I could have a homemaker come in one day a week for the things Yvette is not supposed to do. I know I used to wash walls and every thing in the spring but I cannot do that anymore and that is not what a CNA does, Bill will stop at the farm on Saturday before he gets here to get me some nice tomatoes from just over the border in Ct. A bit warmer there than here so their tomatoes are ripening already. He brought me 2 last week and boy did they ever taste good.

AMY  the washers and dryers here are each $2.50 a load so $5.00 a load really. The CNAs say this is the most expensive senior housing for those machines than all the other ones  and half the time one of the 4 washers of 4 dryers is not working. Never know it till the money is in the machine already and they never give it back to you. Regina made her first batch of relish yesterday. She had to use the zucchinies she had before they went bad. Better yesterday than today when it will be in the 100's there. I think Shirley would both agree with you about those favorite seasons. The first hot day in spring-anything above 70-I start looking forward to the end of September.

LLOYD  don' t know what it is feels like outside but i t looks gray and no t a nice day. No rain in the forecast but who really can tell what Mother Nature decides to do.

JANE  I think we had August tempera tures in July but  the rain and all the thunderstorms were like nothing I ever saw before. We had more than 12 inches of rain in July. Imagine how all that rain could help with those fires out west. I cannot drink Gatorade, does a number on my tummy and feels like I will uchuck, even a sip of it does that. My son Mike drinks a lot of it when he is working outside in the hot sun.

Have a good day, stay safe and cool.

We have 67° in Wichita at 7:00 am.... radio weatherman says the "air quality is poor. We have a haze from the fires in the NW part of the US". I opened both garage doors as well as the door to the back yard to get that HOT air out, like an oven in here. Also got 2 doors in the house wide open because I don't keep my thermostat down to that & there's no bad humidity this morning. I'd think it was fall BUT since calendar says (my grade school teacher kept insisting that word is NOT SEZ...)the first week of August, we know better! I'm with you, Jane, this is not an August like I remember! No wind at all, got the front yard sprinklers doing their thing.

Amy, I think this country is in a terrible state that we can't produce anything without import parts from China (that's the reason I get when things are not in stock). Scares me to think of the control we have given up since WWII when at that time our teachers kept telling us "what a mistake it was that WE had been selling our raw materials overseas and they were using it to make war."

I also think of the time we spent in England with a new baby & no washer or dryer. I washed diapers in the bath tub & those little outfits in the bathroom sink & carried the wet clothes down all those stairs to hang out only to bring back in wet at the end of the day & dry in front of the wall electric heater overnight. I dreamed of a little portable washer but my husband didn't think we needed it. Most of our clothes & bedding went to a local laundry that picked up & delivered. How times have changed in 65 years!

Jane, I also keep Gatorade in the frig at all times. Not as good about drinking since the leg cramps don't hit as often. Wonder why they don't?  My body goes on "craves" now & then and I just go with it. Was on an orange juice kick a few months ago & couldn't get my fill. Usually I get sores in my mouth if I eat an orange... but I do listen to my body. Tiger cat does the same, she won't eat breakfast this morning or yesterday morn.... (she usually loves canned salmon), but she will make up for it later in the day. Tom & Callie will eat any time & any thing....

Better eat my breakfast, have some weed whipping I need to do while fairly cool. The lawn guys only trim the basics & race those big mowers around (the grass lays down when they come) & I'm not kidding, soon as they put those big mowers back on the trailer, that grass stands back up.

That's my day and I've got to move. Boy, Gloria, I could live with a HIGH of these 60s & be happy! I feel for your daughter in that heat. My youngest son would live there & love it. Keep wondering if I brought home the wrong baby!!!  He's pushing 60 so I wouldn't trade him now.

Happy Day to all. Shirley

Good morning from a bright and sunny Interior! We reached 89° last evening and expecting the same today with zero % of expected thunderstorms. Our low yesterday was 57 and today's is 64°. I am so glad we don't have the humidity here!

This is not normal for us as August is our rainy and cool-down season. The Munson fire is still burning in the uninhabited forest and away from people or dwellings, and the other summer fires are out.

Our state fair is going this week, but I'm not. Too many people, and I know the Delta variant will be going as well. I do need to get out and do some hunter-gathering.

Amy, we have two different groups of Scottish pipers, I'm not sure if you would call them a band, organization, or club, but they're at many events during the year. Both are local favorites and have been around forever, it seems. I know; I look forward to hearing them and seeing them parade in full costume!

Another busy day for you and Kyle; any planned stops for cheese and or chocolates?

Our last three summers were cool, wet, and rainy, so I'm enjoying this one and hate to see it come to an end.

Jane, any chance Frankie might like to stop by here once or twice a week? I'd provide meals, but she'd have to provide her own transport. 😀

Gloria, poor Yvette! She is a treasure for you and a good friend!  I'm not that fond of our manager, but that's our temperaments and not her managements skills or lack of. She's very corporate and by the book.

I hope you're not in for a storm with that odd sky?

We don't actually have five full hours of daylight midwinter as the two bracketing hours are full dusk. Winter Solstice brings more and more minutes of daylight, which is why the summer and winter solstices are big in the Arctic. It also helps us with those huge veggies!

I'm with you on Gatorade. That and or Alka-Seltzer is enough to make me gag.

Last March 2020, they took the coinbox off the five sets of laundry machines and made them free, so the maintenance men wouldn't have to handle the coins during the pandemic. They added a small charge across the board to our rents. Yesterday, we received a notice that tenants apparently have friends and family come in illegally to do their laundry or have the tenant do theirs. It's apparently bad enough that a tenant, if found out, is up for eviction.

Shirley, I always keep any screen doors closed due to mosquitos. They drive me nuts!

Since WWII, any product is not necessary from China or any one country. One may contribute the raw materials, another the technical expertise, and perhaps a final touch comes from another country's manufacturer. By treaty from the fifties, the last country to provide the final portion of the manufacturing process has the right to use the "Made In" label.

The majority of our clothing materials and electronic components come from India, the Philippines, or Asia, yet they are stamped Made in America! Often the only made in America portion is the finishing! And America is right in the middle of selling our products throughout the world.

Here's hoping your day goes as you like it!

You are right, Patricia, on "made in America" even tho most of the parts come from China. In particular are the little "thingies" that go into controls & techie stuff. That includes cars/washers/all electronics.... my kids complain all the time about what has to be waited on from China to fix just about everything. (Planes/cars/phones/computers, etc). I'm surprised they don't have a camera mounted in the laundry room, to check on who uses how much.

Americans don't want to do or cannot do assembly line work so they farm it out overseas. The largest group of emigrants preferred, especially from India, are those in electronics and or computer fields and innovations.

It's also in the agriculture workforce, we depend on migrants because Americans don't want to do the work.

And of course, you pay less from overseas than from stateside which is one of the largest reasons.

I've been crawling around on my hands and knees carrying a plastic bag, a roll of paper towels and a bottle vinegar spray cleaner most of the day.  I have a doggie with an upset tummy!  We went for a very productive walk about 7:30 and when we came home, she went down the hall and into the bathroom and threw up her breakfast!  She's bee throwing up ever since.  The only thing she was willing to put in her stomach all day was water and that came right back up!  I managed to barricade her in an area of bare floors (no rugs) and that made it a bit easier.  Right now, she's asleep on the kitchen floor and I just finished making rice and chicken to see if I can tempt her and if she can keep it down for supper.

I don't remember who said to try giving her pepto bismal.  I did try.  She wouldn't even stand still.  I even tried it with a dropper and she sneezed and spit.  I don't think that's going to work!

My knees hurt!

Good late afternoon from a trepid explorer back from the malls. It was burning outside waiting for my cab, and I literally felt I was roasting and had to hide out in between the doorways. After spending four hours in one of the larger multi-store malls, I emerged with everything on my list. I think I'll go back on the weekend to grocery shop.

When I came outside, I realize Mother Nature had lied to me. I thought I had been transported back to a southern state, it was so soupy, and there were large, heavy purple clouds. There was lightning and thunder from the east with a needle-like rain. Of course, once I was home, it was dry again, the soup stayed on the eastside, and the northwestern skies had nary a cloud. Now I'm wondering just what else was going down east.

Good morning..

Heading back into fry time again with a possibility of rain later on this afternoon..

Yesterday was a fun day on the road. Managed to get a part for his sander and I managed to glean a "tray" for my pressure cooker. If I want to do two levels in the pressure canner I would sit the jars on top of the bottom jars. Now I can use this, set it on the jars and put jars on top. Turns out a  11"pizza tray with holes works perfect!

Kyle is building another part of the village ,so off to the lumber yard we go, then home to wash floors. Need to pick beans again so maybe that first to beat the rain.

Patricia, we have to go to get our eyes checked next week and I would imagine cheese and chocolate stops would be in order. We just have to travel across country to get there. All beautiful farm country and I love seeing all the animals along the way. Have to be careful as we have Mennonites driving their buggies along the roads. Frankie will be there after a stop here :)

Gloria, I am picking up a portable washer on Sat. it will see me through till my new one gets here. I would spend more than this portable is costing me on the laundry and have nothing other than clean laundry to show for it. This way I will have a back up.if need be. My friend used to say "Happiness is having two of everything" Many times I have found this to be true.

Better get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Amy, tell me about your portable washer, what brand & where did you find it?  I've been thinking how handy it would be to have one for small loads, especially colored things that not many alike. But, probably not work, I really don't have an inch to spare in this house until I get rid of a lot of stuff.

I used a type of round up on the weeds & ivy near the front of the house last night so must dress & put back the big lava rocks & the clamshell bird bath that sits on that space up against the house. I had been avoiding the job & it only got worse (naturally). When we bought the house back in 1988 it had layers of white rock/Kansas creek gravel/ red rock & then my husband put another layer of black plastic down over & a layer of smaller lava rock with big ones here & there... oh, I think he first put down those cedar chips (& layer of black plastic). Nobody ever removed anything so would take a ditch digger to pull all that black plastic out now. I'm just trying to get it looking neater since the ivy & weeds are covering everything. This is NOT one of my fav jobs but can't find anyone that actually knows how to work except my own kids & they are way too busy with work & their own houses/yards.

Lloyd, my Fitbit tells me I had 4 hours & 11 min sleep last night so I'll also be getting a nap today. My motorhome is sitting in the driveway, gas tank full & new tires all around just begging to hit the road. Too hot for me, have to wait until late Sept or early Oct, I guess. Only place I camp at the lake is COE /Long Shoal (between Warsaw & Clinton). I've stayed at the state park on the west side of Jefferson City when visiting my parents home towns of Bonnots Mill and Linn. The sites are nice in both places, far enough apart & trees for shade. I do like electric hook ups.

Jackie, one year I grew a row of potatoes, actually my husband took care of the garden, but as the potatoes grew he would heap the dirt around them & when he was at work I'd go out & dig my fingers in to find the bigger ones to pluck out for our supper. They were so good fresh out of the ground. He complained about not getting a big crop when he dug them up so I admitted what I had been doing!  ;D

And now I really do have to get busy & move those monster rocks! Last of the cooler days for us.

Good morning everyone, another morning with no sunshine but this evening rain will be back and during the night severe thunderstorms are in the forecast, AGAIN. I was hoping we left those storms in July, we had one most every day last month. 67 now but will get warmer as the day goes on even without sun shining.

SHIRLEY  I could live with 60 or 70 ll summer but still want the cold winter weather, too. My daughter said they are getting used to the heat and the times to stay in the house. My SIL likes the heat and he would suffer in our winters here.

PATRICIA  the manager here thinks she owns this place, she is good at her paper work and saving the company money but she has no people skills with we senior folks. She makes her own rules and will decide who she evicts or not. I she does not  like a person she makes their lives hell and they st art looking for a differen place to move  to. I stay away from her when I can and will just say hello  to her when I see her. A few popular stores in this are closed up when they could not find clo thes made in the USA anymore. There is a difference in the clothing now, nothing seems to fit like it used to. They must think we have very long arms. I always had a problem with sleeves jus t about reaching my wrists and not all the sleeves are way too long. One thing I notice about some new clo thes I sent for is they seem to be cutting back on the material. I buy the same size as always from good stores but now they are getting tight and I hate tight clothes. No  I have not gained any weight, still holding at 80 pounds. I need clothes I can get my arms into easy because of my shoulders not t hings  that have to be cut for me to get out of them.

LLOYD  my daughter has raised beds for her garden.  The soild  there is very sandy so  they  needed soil for  the beds. Their closes t neighbor and firs t friend when theymoved  to Arizona has animals and a huge compos t pile, more than he can use so he told them t heycould have as much as  they needed. My SIL hooked up his fla t trailer and up  the moun tain they went for several loads from his compost and mixed with some of the sand they now have rich soil for her vegetables.

JACKIE  when we had ou r house we had a big garde bu t t he only thing that never frew right was corn. We had several rows of peas but never cooked any of them. As the pods started filling up we would pick them and ea t the peas raw. Even my 3 would do  that.

AMY  I would love to have 2 of everything but would have no room to keep it in. Yvette j=keeps getting me items on sale and I told her to stop or I'll have to get rid of funiture to store it all. My son Mike tells me I should stock up on canned food and Spam-after getting sick of Spam in WW2 I cannot even stand the smell of it. At times it was the only kind of meat available.

SHIRLEY  moving rocks? You have more ambition t han I do. Of course if I bent down to lift a rock I would be down on the ground pretty fast and would need somone to get me up. I don't have enough strength in my arms or legs  to get myself up. Makes me winder why I am still here when I cannot do much of anything anymore.

Have a good day everyone stay safe and cool enough for you.

Good Morning All Y'all!  I wasn't in last night because I was so tired and so worried about Mickie that I just wasn't on the computer.  All day yesterday the only thing she put in her tummy was water and it came right back up. At her vet appt. this morning, they did a bunch of tests and determined that she has a kidney infection.  It isn't curable but it's treatable so she's spending a couple of days in the hospital till they get her settled on her meds and she feels better.  House sure is quiet!

RAMMEL, thanks for the info on the bad dog food.  I've been feeding my dogs an all natural blend since 3 dogs ago.  They love it and it's easy to make up every couple of days!

I guess I'll have to take a walk all by myself today!  No Mickie and no Cooper!

Well, I didn't have to walk by myself.  Cooper stopped by.  Frankie's dad come from where he lives to make a visit at the Farmer's market on Wed. and if it's her day off, they have lunch together.  So he's spending a couple hours with his "GG"

The vet said she call when she has any news and no call yet so I'm still on pins and needles waiting!

AMY, hope the RR works for Babe.  No doggie should be afraid of the vet!

Shirley, I bought this from a fella that no longer needs it. The machine is a Kenmore and will see us through till the new fangled one comes. I am not so sure on the new one.....too many bells and whistles for me. Will work with your phone and tell you when things are done! All I asked for was one that I could control the water..not one that only gives you inches of water...and one that didn't lock........well one out of two ain't bad.....it does have a lock on it but he said there is a button to unlock it. Now why in thunder a washing machine has to have a lock on......they are dirty clothes , who  is going to steal them???  As for kids climbing in teach your kids manners, respect and DO NOT TOUCH. Not sure what this world is coming to anymore, hokey teddy bear!!

Are the kids these days dumber or just more adventurous than ours were and than we were when we were kids.  My mother had a topless, wringer washer when I was a kid and there was no way I wanted to get in there.  I didn't even like the wringer but I did learn to use it!

They called me to take Mickie home overnight.  Once she started to feel better she let them know in no uncertain terms, that she did not like where she was.  So they wrapped the catheter and she's home to sleep but she has to go back tomorrow.  I'm amazed at how much better she looks already!

Gonna go sit with Mickie.  I probably won't be back tonight and maybe not in the morning tomorrow.  Have a good night's sleep and get a good start to your day!

Jane, even dogs know there is no place like home. I am glad Mickie is feeling better and voiced her opinion on where she wants to be. Now the two of you can settle down for the night and sleep.

If I could have found an old wringer, it would be here. I enjoyed doing laundry with that machine.

well My mother had a wringer washing machine. one day she was doing the wash, reached over the tub and reached over the wringer to catch cloth on the other side and it caught hold of her left breast and she could not get hold of the release Bar, so she hollered at me to come and hit the reverse. so ladies be careful. Good morning from another wonderful sunny day in the eighties! According to the weather reports, this weekend may be the last of this heat as next week will be in the sixties and back with rain. They've, construction company, worked on the building's other side's balconies all last week, and with rain expected, I don't know when we'll have our turn.

Jane, I hope all goes well for Mickie at the vet, and she's home soon.

Sandy's right, I spent yesterday at friends enjoying a birthday party for another friend whose birthday was on July 22nd and me. We had good food, good friends, and three dogs to play with and save our meals from. We ate outside while admiring her garden flowers and veggies.

Good morning everyone, ysterday was a day of sleep for me. I sat here at te computer yesterday morning and sat  back in this comfortable PC chair and dozed off. Thought no a smar t place to fall asleep so laid on the couch and fell asleep unt il the phone ran g and it was Yve tte calling from down in the foyer to be let  in. 2 hours later she lef t and I was on the couch having another nap. Of course it was another rainy gloomy day so that didn't help. Slept  8 hours last night but feel awake now. I just heard on local weather that we had a months worth of rain yesterday in less  than 3 hours. Bad enough in July we had just over 12 inches of rain, now it looks like August weill be a wet one, too. If this means we will be snowed in come win ter this year I be tter stock up on food in cans.

AMY  the sun slept all day yesterday here so I just joined in the sleep, too. What better way to spend a gloomy day?  My oldes t son Mike and Yve tte bot h say we should start  stocking up while we can. Mike told me to start stocking up on Spam. Guess I had  too much of it back in WW2.

JANE  I nissed something about Mickie being back at the Vet's. I know how much we get to love our fur babies and will do every thing we can for them. Hope she is home now and feeling better.

SANDY  love Fe's smile showing her missing tooth. Reminds me of my 6 year old grea t grandson when she started losing his baby teeth. He would not let anyone pull them out, he did it himself. So independent.

Better go make breakfast and get on with the day.

Have a good day everyone and be safe and cool and dry or we t depending on where you live.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be an unusual week here!  We have Cooper all day and all night while Frankie is on vacation and Mickie is still in recovery mode.  She sticks to me like glue and when she wants to go out it's urgent!

I'll be in when I can but it's going to be "iffy" when that will be.  Have a good day, Everyfriend

Good morning from a partly cloudy, sixty degree, with showers expected Interior! Nothing new here, some lagging housework that needs to be done, and some laundry.

Jane, I'm hoping you and Mickie make it through these next few days and come out easily on the other side.

Gloria, I wish I'd had your sleep; I slept went to sleep easily and slept good for about two hours, and then it was nap and then wake up every hour or so. It's just been too hot to sleep, and I never thought I'd say that! I finally got up at five.

We have a mated pair of ravens, and they've been very vocal the past couple of days, casing the area parking lots. They've been known as a group to even tear into loads in the back of pickups, looking for a meal.

Have a good day everyone!

I have had a laze day plenty Napping. May not sleep good tonight?

Sorry, LLOYD, I can't answer your question.

It's been a very unusual day and I'm going to take the doggies out, go to bed and try to forget today!  Good night all.  I pray your day was better than mine!  And I pray mine is better tomorrow than my today was!

Lloyd, is it possible your battery pack is down ... needs to be re-charged?  They do even wear out after a lot of re-charging. I have a couple small battery packs that will charge my phone & iPad and even the laptop if I wanted to (I think) but don't use them any more than necessary when out in CO camping (no electricity in the mountain campgrounds). When we go into town to eat we always take along all our electronics to charge while we're eating! Of course you do realize "I know nothing" when it comes to electronics!  :uglystupid2:  ;)

I'm so relieved to hear Mickie likes her new food, Jane. When our German Shepherd was in her last days the vet wanted us to try this food that looked like burned grass, she wouldn't touch it & it broke my heart. We knew there wasn't any hope but she didn't seem to be in pain. We made up our minds on a Friday that I would take her in for the last trip on Monday and I fed her her favorite foods until then. Only during Sunday night she died and saved me having to make that trip. My heart still breaks remembering. She was 11, normal age for GSs....but none of us were ready. Kids went to school & Cas to work, but she was my buddy all day and I wasn't alone until.... so I watch with concern when Mickie has a problem. Hugs..

Good night to all, I watched the show about BTK tonight so am feeling sad for his daughter & all the families he affected. What a wasted life he lived, I hope he wasn't allowed to see it. We were here when all that was going on & feared for our daughter who was in college at the time. Her male student friends walked her to her car when she had night classes.

Good morning..

Going to be another hot one here ,already humid. We are off to another city to hopefully pick up the washing machine. Then home to label the 9 pints of hamburg 5 pints of chicken and 5 pints of cherries that were canned yesterday. Then I can get into laundry...oh boy!!

Jane, I  hope today is a better day for you with no surprises or worries.

Gloria, I am packing foods and paper products away for winter. Already some things are difficult to find here.

Patricia, how are the wild fires in your area?  I hear crow outside hollering for breakfast now. Crow has a pile of corn that I put out but is waiting on his bread.

Better get everything gathered to go.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, loo like today will be a nice day but more rain for tomorrow in the forecast again according to wht I jus t saw on the TV. Of course we know they are seldom right. Well they have a 50-50% of being right I guess. A few days ago a woman with a child in her car was stopped at a traffic light in Providence and was surrounded by a group of dirt bikers, they pulled her out of her car and beat her up. Sure glad I no longer have to go to Providence, not saying much for our state capitol.

JANE  looks like you will have to keep an eye on Mickie so she does not have an accident in the house.Good thing she is well trained to let you know she needs to go out. Hope you get enough of those ZZzzzzzzs at night and she is able to go most of the night without going out.

PATRICIA  all that sleep is nice but nothing gets done in here and it feels like I am sleeping my life away.

LLOYD  a couple of days ago I slept most of the day and still slept good all night. Hope you sleep good.

SHIRLEY who or what is BTK?

AMY  Yvette has been telling me  tha t some shelves in markets are already getting bare. I really have no room to store much of anything but it scares me at times. I think the rationing in WW2 was better than this hoarding of today. We never went hungry as with the rationing there was food for everyone.

Have a good day and stay safe.

If mother nature had more patience it would be better. Have a good day just as you like it. It is overcast here @8:31 AM. I plan on trying to get the raised beds finished putting to gather today. and filled with dirt, so can get them planted with fall grading. my beds have bows over them so can add to both ends of the growing season. Like Lettice and radishes and other early plants.

Yesterday was a perfect day., We took off around 7 am leaving the dogs home. We arrived at our destination at the agreed time and met by a gorgeous hunk! There he was with the most melting brown eyes. voicing our arrival to his owner. Getting  the OK from his owner I gave this huge hunk some dog cookies. Bruno the Bull Mastiff  enjoyed the treats, as long as multiple treats were handed to him as the tiny cookies got lost in his mouth. . Picked up the washer and headed back home. Once I figured out how to work this machine  5 loads of laundry were done and laundry hung on the line.

Today  is a day of much needed rest.

Jane, Rescue remedy to the rescue last night!! The rain came which was needed and oh boy did the thunder roar!!

Phyllis, sounds like the fires are getting under control and thankfully the rain is helping. On our travels yesterday a bear crossed in front of us. walking at first but when we got closer he picked up his paws and loped :)

Gloria, can you put extra goodies eg canned goods in a box under your bed? Just things that you use every day...coffee jams or canned vegetables.

Lloyd, fresh lettuce and radishes will taste great in the fall!! Hope you got a good nights sleep.

Better get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  LLOYD, Mickie is sleeping all night which is a blessing but she's still having problems with food.  But we're working on it!  Thanks for asking!

AMY, yay for the RR!  It's nice to have a calmer doggie isn't it?  I thanked Suzi (my niece) every time it worked on my doggies!  The last time I saw a bear up close and personal (not in a zoo) it was begging outside our van in Yellowstone National Park.  One of my 14 year old Girl Scouts had been saying the whole time we were there "I just want to see a bear, just once!"  She got her wish!  It was outside our windows standing looking in practically in her face!

Gotta go see if I can tempt Mickie with some food this morning.  Gotta get something for me too.  Seems the only one eating regularly around here is Cooper!  He sure doesn't understand what's going on here!

Hope your day goes well!  Congrats on the new washer, AMY.  Let me know when David will be in this area!

Have a good day Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, oh boy my son brough tme more tomatoes from  the farm yest erday and I had a nice tomato sandwich for my supper last night and enjoyed every little bite. Mike has a suny area for his garden but  Bill does not have the acreage Mike has and the area he has for a garden soes not get enough sun with the trees on the other side of his fence. Some beautiful huge maple trees and the branches shade most of the yard back there. Those trees belong to the town so he cannot even cut the branches down that overhang a good part of the back yard. Since he and I are the ones whe enjoyed the  toma toes when I lived there there was enough for  the 2 of us. His wife and daughter only like  the cherry tomatoes and he always plants one of  those so they have plenty.

LLOYD  know wha t you mean abou t Mother Nature waking us at  the wrong time. Mos t times I can go back to bed and sleep but  at ot hers i t is close to the time I would have woke up anyway so stay up.

PATRICIA  thanks for telling ne what BTK means. Yes terday we had a wonderful cooler sunny morning but a lit tle aft er noon it  got cloudy for the rest of the day but no rain. Thia morning it is once again a gray sky but no rain in the forecast.

JANE  I hope Mickie did not keep you on the go letting her out and in  and she slept better last night. Glad she likes the new food.

AMY  yikes a Bull Mastive would have made me st ay in the car. A close neighbor of my daughter has one who had pups and he tried to talk Regina into taking one of them. Her Chuhuwa would fit in it's mouth. She declined. It would have taken up a lot  of room in their house, too. If it decided it wanted to spend the night in the bed it would have had them sleeping on the floor. I already have stoage boxes under the bed but I need someone who can  take them out of there when I need something. For vegatables I only eat fresh or frozen. Only food in cans are tomatoes for spaghetti sauce, cream corn for when I make shepherd's pie and sauerkrout. I am a fussy eater. I had some can vegetables for so many years they spung leaks.I have 4 cans of coffee and since I bought the Keurig I get the Kcups. I do have  the hlolders that can be filled and used in the keurig so if it comes to a coffee shortage I will be OK. I like keeping powdered milk and evaporated milk in the closet. Tanks t o Yvette I already have a stock of paper goods.

JANE  I would no t want to get any closer  to a bear  than a mile.

Have a good day and sray safe.

Good morning from the Interior, where we've graduated from steady rain to partially cloudy and a few expected afternoon showers. This is our expected normal August weather, and the remaining month will be in the sixties.

Due to the Delta variant, we had five local covid deaths over the latter part of the week, so  I expect any previous re-openings will be closed again. We've gone from high to low and to intermediate and now high again. This building never reopened fully, and now they're saying perhaps next spring.

They were working on the balconies on the front side of the building before the rains, so I don't know if they'll get to our side this coming week or not. Also, the idea of maintenance coming to do full repairs apartment by apartment seems to be on hold. We have one person on call by day and another at night with security the same.

I thought about the ones working pre-pandemic and wonder if they've been let go or reassigned to one of the other six buildings? It's a bit jarring to have maintenance come into your apartment masked up and wearing plastic coverings over their shoes.

When I was last shopping, I remember seeing some empty shelves. I couldn't get peroxide or cornstarch, and I saw they're back to rationing paper purchases. The small ethnic groceries I loved to shop at have been closed for over a year now, and I doubt they'll be back, which is unfortunate.

School here begins on the eighteenth of August and ends on the nineteenth of May, with teachers began on the twelfth of August and ending on the twentieth of May according to the local school calendar. When I was in school, it began after Labor Day, and even then, many students returned later because they were still out on fall hunts which were normal and expected. School ended in early May. I remembered going outside afterward and seeing my cousins still in school.

Jane, I had a finicky dog as a child and hope Mickie, and you find a way to her eating again.

A couple living down the street from my building has a Cane Curso. Now that is a large dog! He's very well trained, good with children and other dogs from that training, but he's always supervised when out in the yard. I've talked with his owners, mainly about their vegetable and flower gardens, but I've heard a bit about Sam. He's very protective, reserved with strangers, and wouldn't be happy during an attempted robbery. His owner is retired military and trains other dogs for a living.

I've seen a few bullmastiffs in the area, and I imagine they're kept for protection or bear dogs. Speaking of bears, twice, my husband and I cleaned up and repaired cabins a bear had broken into. The strength a bear has is scary; one time, an 18 cubic chest freezer had its locked lid completely torn off. So, I have a healthy respect for them.

Brutus was a sweet laid back dog. I do believe it is all in how you raise an animal and it shows. The young fellow was easy going also, his Mom and Dad could /should be proud of him.
Patricia, my cousin ws out in BC camping and said that a grizzly had opened up the garbage container, rolling back the metal top. As you know those containers are made of thick steel!! An animal to show great respect to..

About the end of Sunday but still a birthday party attend. This one is for a gr-son & his sister's husband, so she is throwing them the party. I have only been to one or two gatherings this last year & they were basically outside. I'm still concerned the little ones under 12 can carry & we never know until too late. I remember when my neighbor called, after our girls had spent most of the day playing together 3-4 years old.... she took April's shirt off & was covered in measles. She had older brother & sister to catch everything from. With this virus nobody really knows how young they can carry.

Anyway, I was told "not to bring anything" so have mixed up some of the meat spread (the host's fav food) just for her & since she is the one that remembers I keep a little vase with a flower in it on my kitchen sink window nearly year around. I have crape myrtle blooming right now & one sprig with 3 little fern type leaves from yarrow will go along to her. She can put it on her bathroom vanity, no kitchen sink window, her sink is center of the room.

I think she is the one most indignant about me not being around the kids this past year.... haha, her little darlings wouldn't give me COVID! They have been involved with every sport possible all year & the youngest is exactly like his gr-father, always on the go & getting hurt so many trips to the ER. Those two are my red heads. I am looking forward to seeing them, they will be the only little ones there. The other family is heading back from the East Coast after visiting the oldest gr-daughter & family, with a stop off in St.Louis to see & spend a night with their gr-parents. They have 3 kids so drove to St.Louis & spent a few days together & then flew back east, breaks up a long trip.

We had some wind & rain last night, I didn't pay attention, heard & ignored. Cats were all accounted for. Got a lot of leaves in the pool so will clean that tomorrow. Looks like we have a heat warning for tomorrow & hot all week, I was hoping we'd miss more of the 100s but August is usually the hottest month for KS & MO.

I'm about ready to head for the haystack.  It's been a busy day but I didn't have to clean up any floors today!  I think Mickie might be on the mend.

PATRICIA, Mickie has never been a finicky eater but when everything you put in your stomach comes up it kind of makes you not want to put anything down there.  And she has a new Vet Pharmacy Food to get used to.  I've been feeding her more often and smaller meals and hoping she'll sleep until it digests and it seems to be working.

I made a jar of my canned carrots in the air fryer today and boy were they good!  I'm going to have to can more carrots.  I think I only did 6 or 7 pints and one of them is a good lunch!

I'm heading for the haystack now and hoping for a good night's sleep!  I'm ready for it!  I hope you all have one, too!  It's gonna be a hot and humid one here tomorrow!

Good morning..

Another hot day in the making here..come on Fall!!

Have a lot of put off jobs to do today.doubt they will all get done but at least some will. Flocks of blackbirds are vacuuming up the seeds I put out, Blue Jays the muscle birds fly in and poof away go the little birds. The Mourning Doves are back and it is always fun to watch them. Crows bring their family that are as big as they are now. I call them the MTO of the road ways. They fly back and forth across the highway ,looking for road kill to clean up.

Patricia, thank you for the gift and cupcakes! I had a fantastic day here with friends stopping by and phone calls. One I made to my cuz in the US..love talking with her! :smitten:

Jane, how did you do the carrots in the AF? Did you coat them with anything or just put them in as they are? Hope Mickie's stomach  adapts to the food.

Shirley, you do what you need to do to protect you!!

Better get ready to meet the day.
I put dark chocolate cake with delicious icing on it in the hidey hole. The icing is not sweet, just smooth and rich !

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, well it is morning but not  too good, sky still gray with rain possible later in the day. By Wednesday forecast  is for hot humid temperatures to return.  I will be so relieved when temperatures are no higher than the 70's and we do not have gray skies more  than blue ones.

PATRICIA  the only wild animals I ever saw were in zoos and I am happy to keep it that way. I have seen deer walk through the yard at my son's place and wild turkeys when I have been in  the house and that  is enough for me. A bear would knock me over with just a strong breath.

AMY  years ago we used  to go hiking in the woods in this town, came across old foundations and where people had their dump never seeing a wild animal. Deer were seldom seen and the hunting season for them was 5 days and only with bow and arrow. Now there are too many deer and they cause damage. The last few years many sightings of black bears all over the state, even in this town. Not safe to go into the woods anymore.

SHIRLEY  August  has always been the hot month here. I can remember adults  talking about the dog days of August. Even dogs didn't want  to move. After last month here I don't see how August can be worse this year.

AMY  Happy Belated Birthday.
That's me lately, late for everything.

LLOYD  will be awhile before local peaches are ready for picking.

Have a good day everyone and s tay safe from  the new strain of Covid.

:hb3:  :hb2: One more Belated Happy Birthday, Amy!

Gloria, after watching that news of BTK with all the original cast photos & what they look like today, I am finally getting past the sick feeling we had those years. It really was re-living a nightmare, not just the 10 people he killed, but the fact he could pretend to be normal all those years and acting like he was a "star".... just talking about it makes me start breathing short & need to shiver. You would have to have seen him to believe how lacking he is of any human traits. I don't think any animals are as brain & conscience dead as this man. He is still living in a prison just east of Wichita. I thought his daughter tried hard to be as kind about him as she could, but I still think she, her brother & any kids they have will be constantly aware that "they might inherit the gene that turned him into a totally crazy human". If you Google BTK it has quite a bit about him. Appears he did all this to be famous & loved the attention, so back in the day they didn't allow him to see news to feed his ego. I really didn't realize how much it affected me at the time & again watching this ABC show. Sorry, I just couldn't talk about it at the time.

We have a heat advisory for today & most of the week so I was up & attem early. Had my son turn the sprinkler heads to go all the way around to get the neighbor's yard until they can get their well fixed. Poor kids (about same age as my kids), decided to have a pool put in & so many things have gone wrong it's almost funny but NOT! The had their front yard completely killed off & replanted because it was so neglected before....  with this heat & wind we do have to water almost daily, so most houses have sprinkler systems. I watched this side of their yard turning yellow and starting to die so I asked my son if it was possible to get MY sprinklers to go all the way around. In some of the original digging the well power was cut off. Talked to the young man that owns the house next door & he was grateful to have the help so Andy got it running over the week end. Nothing Andy loves more than making someone happy. I hope it's not too late to turn that grass green again. Owner said he found a way to get the other front zone to work so kind of good feeling to have something work out right. Her parents bought the house across the street & I love having "family" all around!

I need to run errands & then a nap later today. I could use one now but afraid to stop. Wishing all a peaceful and happy day.

Shirley,  we're getting Heat Advisories, too.  I haven't needed to be out that much but it doesn't feel any hotter than usual for this time of year to me.

The past two weeks have been filled with maintenance medical appointments, errands to do, family/workpeople in and out and desk work that needed to be done ASAP.

Medical appointments all went well but I didn't like doctors agreeing that I'm doing as well as can be expected "at your age".  :buck2:
Had an amplified doorbell installed and wish I'd thought of doing that years ago.
Finally got desk work cleared yesterday afternoon and hoping no more shows up for a while.

Today is oldest son's birthday.  I ordered a gift card sent to him via e-mail; hope he gets it.

Sounds as if the Soda Shoppers are busy as usual with fur babies, canning/cooking and going hither and yon.
Enjoy your day.

Callie, thank you.
Heat didn't used to bother me but now I really dislike the heat and humidity. Told hubby if this a/c ever breaks down a new one will be put in!

Good morning.....another day of nasty air here in Colorado.  Saturday was terrible.  National news said Denver had the worse quality of air in the ENTIRE world😡. What frightening words.

Today the children start back to school.  Our granddaughter is 11 so not vaccinated yet, and there is quite the controversy about them wearing masks or not😩

We celebrated our grandsons 13th Birthday yesterday, a few days early.  With school starting and after school activities there was no hope of doing it on his day.  The new puppy looked like he had nearly doubled in size in just a week. What a cutie pie‼️

My surgeons office called last Friday and I got so excited.......thought maybe they were going to move my surgery date up😍. Nope, just informed me that the hospital had changed and I will be going to the same one that I went to last time😩 18 days to go😩😩. At least it is in sight‼️

I wish you all a wonderful day.

Jenny

Good morning from another rainy but normal for August, Interior day. While those who know the month of August as sweltering, we know it as the month that temperatures cool down and the rains come. Then September and October are cooler but usually beautiful before snows arrive around Halloween. Of course, this isn't set in stone and certainly not last year, but we'll see.

I, for one, enjoyed the return of summer's high temperatures after the past three rainy summers. I'm not enjoying the return of rain, but I know there's an end date, and this month will still be in the midsixties.

I'm still waiting while my insurance and Medicare duke it out. I understand with Covid that most companies are dealing with large backlogs, so that it might be a while. I have noticed that my left leg is weaker, and I'm convinced that there was more to it than a simple sprain and the doctor's impatience with my not so to her, emergency needs.

Other than those minor inconveniences, I'm doing chores and working on my computer. I still haven't set up a monthly budget which has been a goal since 2017. I'm still writing pluses and minuses on notebook paper with a fixed and variable outline. I even bought, last year, the green-lined paged books, but that's as far as I've ever gotten.

Hello All Y'all!  LLOYD, I wish I could say "there's not much going on here" but I can't.  Mickie is still having a hard time keeping anything down.  Even the prescription diet doesn't stay down long enough to do any good for her.

We have a return appointment on Wed. morning and I'm hoping they will give her something that will help to keep the food down and give her some nourishment!  Cooper doesn't understand all this and he has his hiding places to stay out of her way.

Both of my good neighbors are keeping me well supplied with yellow summer squash and today I cleaned a bunch of them, sliced them and stacked them between wax paper on a cookie sheet to freeze.  I have 5 bags ready to take out and Air Fry for quick meals.  And I probably have that much more in the fridge waiting to be done.  I wanted to see if the first batch did what I wanted it to and it did so tomorrow I'm hoping to finish it...if I don't find more on my fence or my porch steps.  That's where they leave them.

I pray for a better day for Mickie tomorrow and I pray that you all have a good day, too!

Jenny, what kind of puppy is the cutie?  He looks like my daughters Bernese Mountain Dog when he was a puppy!  They've actually had two of them and they are such big babies!

I'm off to the haystack.  I hope there are as many zzzzs there as there were last night.  we slept in until almost 7 a.m. this morning!  It felt great.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep!

Good morning.

We are off and driving to our eye appointments this morning . Due to construction we are leaving early with hopes we don't get caught up in it. Will make some detours and get to the chocolate factory and cheese factory afterwards.

Jane, Poor Mickies stomach and the extra work you have had cleaning up!! Hope today is a better day for both of you. Is she on a med that causes this upset? Sending you a sight for canned squash .

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning to anyone who surfaces today including AMY, who has already shown up!

AMY, Mickie is on NO meds at all!  She's on a precription diet which she liked at first but now needs coaxing to eat.  I try to get her to eat and then lie down and sleep for a good hour until everything begins to digest and settle inside.  Sometimes that's not easy to do but right now she's sleeping and has been for 15 minutes since she ate.  I'm not going to move from this spot until she does even though I'm craving a cup of coffee and I should go get dressed.

I got the directions for canning squash and I'll be answering your email a bit later.  Thanks!

Onward to other websites!  I wish you all a good day!  Ours is heading for the high 80s and some rain later on in the afternoon and evening.  the prediction for the humidity is 90%!  That a lot of perspiration!

I hope you all have a good day!  Make it your own in every way!

I actually told Google to wake me at 6:00am so I could turn on the sprinklers. Any time I set an alarm I wake up before it goes off. Google said it is 79° & already windy but will feel like over 100° today & that just sucks up all the moisture from the yard & even pool, so gotta do what we gotta do, right? My to-do list is vac the pool & when sprinklers are done, switch the controls to add water to the pool again. Then before temps go up higher, want to wash the car. It has a layer of dirt on it from the quickie rain we had Sunday so I can't get in without getting my pant legs dirty.

I discovered I can get jobs done if I don't eat first! True, once I eat I am ready to go back to sleep (like a baby). When I asked my doctor about this he just explained that "it takes a lot of energy to digest that food..."  I do love to eat & my weight never changes up or down more than a pound or two.

I also want to know what that darling little pup is, Jenny. Hard to believe that "The Mile High City" had the worst air in the world! Especially that being the place where the doctors used to send patients with lung problems. My oldest cousin spent a year or so there for a bout with TB, and lived at least 60 years longer back in MO after his cure.

I'm so sorry about Mickey's tummy, Jane. Since she is on meds for the original cause, would it be okay at this stage to just offer her little portions of your home cooking?  My gr-daughter's dog got sick, even vet thought possibly "some kind of virus" picked up with the grass sniffing. After antibiotics or whatever meds they gave the pup, dog was fine but gr-daughter diagnosed with Covid! Her only symptom was blood clots in her legs, didn't feel sick at all, but changed her life being confined, blood thinner, etc. The vet didn't test the dog but at the time we were hearing of other dogs testing positive "back east". Best wishes for Mickey & you. EDIT: I see no meds for Mickey... Dr.Shirley's advice stands, Mom's cooking in small portions will probably make her feel better & loved.   :smitten:

I bought some lettuce & spinach packages of seed for fall planting. My tomatoes have not been a big success so not sure they like the trug life (in KS winds). Hope fall lettuce is as good as the spring was, so tender & fresh picked daily! Oops, day light snuck in so better get moving. The trees are shaking hard this morning already so the water won't be doing the ground much good.  Our weather is 80degrees & humidity of 89%.... that is NOT my kind of wake up weather!

Gloria, Jackie, Lloyd, Callie, Patricia, anybody else been in lately?  Thanks to all that check in with news from your worlds. Wishing each and EVERY FRIEND a happy day. God Bless!

Good morning everyone, anot her dark sloomy one here and is not going to improve any. Heat wave in forecast starting tomorrow. Don't need or want it. Local guesser said that with the heat and humidity a t times will feel like over 100. You know I will be s taying inside wi th the AC running. Today is grocery day and Yvette was making a list of what  I need yesterday. More supplies than food. She wants me ready for any shortage we might get soon.

SHIRLEY  I most likely heard/read about that BTK but wiped it out of my mind. I even hate a movie about sadistic people.

CALLIE  great  seeing your post this morning.Gald your health is good "for your age" I get that, too, but at my age I am surprised I am still alive.

JENNY  wish they could replace my spine as easily as they can a shoulder these days.

JANE  you slept be tter than me last night, I was awake about every 2 hours. Don't feel like doing anything today.

Better go get my oatmeal cooked and have breakfast. Hello t o everyone I did not say anything to.

Have a good day and keep that covid away.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND😍

Thank you for noticing the picture of my newest grand pup‼️ He is a Beredoodle, part Bernese Mountain Dog and poodle.  He is as payed back as any pup I have ever met.  Very smart and doing fantastic at being trained.

Another smoky day here in the Mile High😩  SHIRLEY, yes, it is shocking to think we could possibly have the worse air in the world😩⚠️  It is all do to the horrible fires in the west.  We are just in-line for the worst smoke from California and they are predicting that conditions will remain this way for months 😩😤

JANE, I am sorry to read that Mickie continues to not be able to keep her  food down.  I do hope the vet can help with this when you go in.  Loved reading your way of keeping the yellow squash you are being given.  I could eat squash at every meal!

I wish you all a good day.

Good morning from the Interior!

Jane, I hope the vet soon finds food or a fix for Mikie's digestive issues and illness. I know it's upsetting when our babies are ill, and we can't make it better.

Amy, Jane, squash sounds interesting. I never did buy that Acron squash and plan to get that and brown sugar next shopping trip.

Jenny, what a cute pup! I know the Bernese can get large and I wonder about a mix?

Vanilla- Jackie  Thank you so much for your message for my 99th Birthday.  The number sounds wrong but the calendar says it is correct.  I was very happy to see you had moved again and settled into your new place of abode.  Hope you are as well as you can be. I do read in Bait and Tackle at times and appreciated hearing from Beverly. Will attempt to fix this print but not as good on the computer as in times gone by.  Keep free from viras, not good here, but we are in Total lock down in this Aged Care.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, cooler tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, 75 already at 6:45. Going to be a hot humid day again. Anothe AC day and one I will stay inside and not go out for a walk and fresh air. Will be in the upper 80's before  the day is over and the next 2 days it is to be in the 90's and with the humidity the weather guessers are saying it will feel like the lower 100's. More days when going outside it will feel like trying to breathe under water. I sure am not fond of summer especially when we have temperatures like this. Sure glad my sons are retired and do not have to work outside anymore. With these temperatures there might also be violent thunderstorms. Then again those are mostly August temps here. Makes me wonder if we will have record cold and snow this coming winter. Once again glad I no longer have to drive in the snow.

JENNY  I hope when you go outside you wear a mask so as not to breathe in the smoke particles into your lungs. I think it is horrible with this heat and the smoke where you are to have the kids doing their sports in those conditions. Every summer here there are reports of some youngster passing out while in a game. Terrible when spor ts are more important to those coaches than the kids lives.

PATRICIA  I would like to bake a stuffed Acorn squash but my son has been giving me so many zucchinies I do not waht them to go to waste.

JUNEE  :hb3:   :) Happy Belated Birthday so good to see your post this morning. I remember when your family celebratedyour 90th birthday. Hard to believe that is already 9 years ago.

JANE  glad Mickie had a better day yesterday. I hope she will keep doing better each and every day. Hope you fond enough Zzzzzzs last night so you feel rested this morning. I did  and feel the difference.

AMY  hope you get home today before it  gets too hot. Yesterday was Yvette's day to go grocery shopping for me. She came back  with a multi pack of TP and paper towels that were not on my list. She wants to stock me up before there is a shortage of them again. I give her a list every week and she always seems to bring back more than what I had on the list. My freezer is full again and no room for anything else. She shops for things on sale even if I do not need them now. She loves coupons, too, but complains there are few around anymore. She has been one of the Coupon Queens but she sure saves money.

Landscapers are here  today. Glad I was awake before they got here. They start at 7 and seems like they start under my windows with those loud mowers every week.

Have a good day and keep cool and safe.

ANTS!  I HATE ANTS!  Why do they think the pickings are better inside in the summer?  For the past 10 or so years, I've had the great big black ones but this year I have the tiny little ones.  They must know I can hardly see the little ones so they send them!  I have baking soda and cinnamon all over the kitchen and if there's one little tiny scrap of something on the counter, they gather!

And that's my complaint for today!!

Mickie had a good day yesterday, slept all night last night.  She got up at 6:30 and went out in the yard and took care of both businesses!  I was delighted to see that the food had done what it was supposed to do and that she was doing what she was supposed to do.  We have our follow-up appt with the vet at 9:30 this morning and we're ready!

GLORIA, you are so lucky to have Yvette!  She really takes care of you...even of what you don't know you need.  She sure is special!  I'm lucky to have my oldest daughter right here in town.  She takes good care of me when I need it!  And Frankie comes by and cleans!  And she absolutely refuses to let me pay her!  She says when I keep Cooper for her, that's the pay!

Gotta run!  Have a great day and stay cool!

Good morning from another cool and rainy Interior. This is normal August weather, a cool-down period between summer and Autumn, leading into winter.

The balcony construction people started on my side of the building yesterday, and they sure are noisy, ripping off the balcony fronts and applying new ones with all that loud and thumping machinery and lifts. They are on the second floor now and expect the fourth on Friday or the following Monday. I plan to be out that day, and I don't want to be hiding in the bedroom all day. I have no idea how Farrah will fare. She'll probably spend the day under the bed or behind the dresser!

Junee:  :hello:   and happy belated birthday!  :happybday:    I hope that milestone birthday was a happy one filled with pleasure.

Jane, I'm so happy for you and Mickie, and it seems smaller, more frequent meals seem to be the way to go.

Amy, we have a Costco here that came in after Sam's Club left just prior to the pandemic. I haven't been in as membership seems steep for a single, and it's on the far end of town. I know many businesses use their products and programs. I spend about a quarter to one half of what I used to, still shopping out my freezer and pantry. I don't seem to meal prep or can as I used to.

Gloria, I have an entire notebook filled with zucchini recipes from times past. But then so does everyone else locally. You often see huge piles by mailboxes or edges of yards in the fall of vegetables and rhubarb with a free sign. We never used to have fruit trees here, but the University's Experimental Farm started grafting apple trees onto chokecherry trees and succeeded. Now they are starting to pop up in protected areas.

Jane, our biggest pest is carpenter ants in older wooden buildings. They get into the walls, nest, and eat their way out. We have small black ants outside but never see them inside.

Lloyd, you are lucky to have family close. All my relatives have moved to other states. I do have family in Missouri, Joplin primarily, but we don't keep in touch.

Mickie didn't eat as well today as she did yesterday but I have a plan for tomorrow and maybe she'll do better then.

My next door neighbor and my neighbor across the street are both over blessed with yellow summer squash and they are both taking care of my needs.  The next door neighbor puts 5 or 6 small ones every day on the fence between our houses and I get them when I go out.  The neighbor across the street comes over and either gives the to me in hand or puts them on my back porch step!  I now have enough bags to do 14 times in the A/F since I made sure the bag held just enough to fit the tray.  And I have 4 more in the fridge that I'm going to clean and cut up in wedges to freeze and fry or bake in casseroles.  I fear they are not finished passing them on to me but I know I'll enjoy them in the winter.

I was going to try canning them but when I looked it up on line, the first thing it said is "you cannot safely can summer squash or zucchini".  I read the entire article and decided not to try canning!

We had a warning of bad storms coming this afternoon but all I heard was some distant thunder and a very soaking rain for about a half hour.  I'll take it!  I didn't have to drag out the hose tonight!

PATRICIA, I'm sure Farah will be as far from the workers and as hidden as she can get.  Cats are good at that!  Dogs just bark!

I'm off to the haystack!  I hope it's loaded with zzzzzs because my eyes have already entered slam shut mode.  Thank goodness for touch typing! I'm really ready for the stack tonight!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, cooler tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

A fast good night... all day my internet was out BUT it wasn't out, the update overnight may have had something to do to put it in "airplane mode".... when Andy called tonight he had me check a few things & found the problem. I had already gone downstairs to turn the modem off & on to see if that would give it a boot (didn't help).... Anyway, another blistering hot day in Kansas & not much else to talk about.

Sounds like everyone is doing okay so wishing the whole bunch of ya sweet dreams and a great day tomorrow!

Up & attem about 5:00 am to start the sprinklers.... my neighbor's yard is looking much better on the half my sprinklers can reach. At least this morning the wind is not so bad. Radar not showing any rain in KS, OK or MO... We are dry, folks!

Still no sign of Mama Callie. I do think she is gone for good. At the least she was 14-15 years old, was getting stiff enough to think maybe older. After watching the 3 pairs of either hawks or falcons circling the chickens yesterday & knowing Callie is much smaller than Tom or Tiger, I am afraid they could have gotten her without too much struggle. That is the chance we take feeding feral animals & not locking them up, but she did live life free and I know she loved this first real home she ever had. Any time I was outside she danced along by my feet & would talk to me, her little mouth moving with happy sounds. If she doesn't turn up today I will start cleaning up all the messes she has made around the house/garage, like 2 litter boxes in the garage! She came inside to eat but just couldn't get the hang of not "marking" her territory so had to watch her like a hawk. I will NOT allow another cat to adopt me!

Time for me to get that first load of laundry in, I try to do it when the least drain on power. It is 78 degrees & another hot day before chance of storms starting tomorrow night. Not much of a cool down but any is better than the 100s.

I'm going to look for the new Farmer's Almanac today, think someone told me we are to expect a colder, snowy winter.... (YEAH, Gloria!) That snow helps protect the winter wheat and my own shrubs! We didn't get enough the last few years to even start the snow blower.

Good morning..

The past two days of being on the road early....tuckered me out! We hit Costco and two buggies later 30 mins we were on our way out. Stopped at one store then headed north. We met up with the kids, had a wee visit then home we went. Noticed how the leaves are turning also......early winter??
Unloaded the van took what we pick up for the neighbour over to her then home to do two loads of laundry.

Today Kyle goes for his license ,then home to work.

Jane, we had a thunder storm last night. Babe was Rescued and did fine through it all  Sometimes these dogs will not clean up on all their food...I put it down to heat or someone in the family has given them too many treats..not naming any names :))

Shirley..we have had so much rain in our area. again last night! Tis either feast or famine with the rain.

Gloria, I am so happy to see Yvette and your sons are keeping you supplied in groceries. We couldn't have gotten one more item in our two buggies...paper products took a large part of the space. We also picked up items for our neigbour too.

Patricia, we didn't think it would warrant getting a membership but through time we do benefit from it. I try to buy items on sale and stock up on paper products. I do like their haddock and came home with 3 boxes ,gave one to the neighbour for looking after our dogs for the day.

Need to get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Bad start to Mickie's day.  She got up and went out and took care of business, came in and refused to eat, barfed a little and I coaxed her to eat about 3 bites and now she sleeping again.  I HAVE to get some food into her and I'm just about at my wit's end!

Back to try again.  Also have to take Cooper for a walk!

Good morning everyone. Even with the AC running all night I did not get much sleep, felt too warm. Got the cover for the couch washed yesterday and it takes the bopth of us to get it on and it was time for Yvette to leave so did not get to it or I would have been on the couch all night. That will be the first thing we do today. Not feeling that great now so hope I feel up to it.

JANE  I remember when one sis ter canned quite a few jars of the summer/yellow squash and when she went to have some they were no good and she had to throw it all away. I am not big on squash so hope my son doesn't give me many more. Cooked the ones he gave me yesterday and did not really enjoy it. I do like the butternut and acorn squashes but that is about it. Regina sent me a picture she took just after a thunderstorm they had and the sky/clouds were very dark and there was a rainbow showing. They had almost half an inch of rain with that one. Every drop of rain they got is wonderful out in tha t dry country.

SHIRLEY  weatherman yesterday said it felt like 99 outside and the temperature was 87. Today and tomorrow it will be in the 90's but with the humidity will feel like up to 110 at  least with violent thunderstorms. Not unusual for August but I thoulght we had enough of them last month.

LLOYD  like you I did not get much sleep last night.

SHIRLEY  I am with you for the cold weather to get here along with the snow. I still like looking at it and no longer have to shovel or drive in it.

AMY  my daughter belonged to Costco when they lived in San Diego but the closest one to them now is in Phoenix and that is a 3 hour drive one way. Any item frozen would be all thawed by the time they got home.

JANE  I know how helpless you feel about getting Mickie to eat. Just like a baby, they cannot tell how they feel or what is wrong.

JACKIE  the way I feel today  I think I should have a plain rice diet today. I should have known better than to eat as much of the zucchinni yesterday but it did taste good.

Have a good day everyone and keep cool if possible.

Good morning from another rainy Interior; our weather is the same as yesterday and forecast to be the same until September. Nothing new here otherwise.

I'm afraid I am diametrically opposite of both of you, Shirley and Gloria. Bring on the sunshine and bring on that heat! I believe that most  Alaskans that live in the arctic would agree with me. We don't have the sticky dampness with the heat, and our winters are cold and dark and six months long!

Amy, a yearly membership here is $40.00, and I don't know how much I'd use it. I'm still paring away at the clutter. I donated four or five items last weekend and am looking at more. Unfortunately, in 2018 I donated all my lower-sized slacks, and now I need them again.

We lost another resident to Covid, and her heirs put multiple kitchen items and dry goods on donation. I picked up two steel racks I probably didn't need but still. A very negative woman glares at anyone taking anything, but I don't believe the deceased would want things to be thrown out. This woman hangs out and glares each time this happens until security asks her to leave. I believe it may be the high point of her day.

A good Wednesday HELLO.  Our sky is a bit clearer today, but that smoke can move n very quickly.

GLORIA, I am, indeed, wearing my mask when we are out in the awful air.

For those who asked about the eventual size of the grandpup. It is said to be a MINI Beredoodle, and he is touted to be not over 30 pounds and 16 inches.  From the size of his paws......I question this, but who knows?  He is going so fast..... we saw him last night again as we celebrated Luke's 13th Birthday.  I think the pup may have grown an inch in 3 days😂😂.

JANE, ants?  Who doesn't hate 'em?  The tiniest crumb on the floor brings them running.  They have to have the very best "smellers" in the entire world. Happy to read Mickie is feeling better🙏

PATRICIA, shame on the old bag that glares at anyone taking from the table of items.  Of course anyone would be happy to have their items used vs thrown away!

I am hoping to accomplish SOMETHING today, but my state of mind tends to get in the way of really doing much😩

Have a great day❣️

Jenny

"A very negative woman glares at anyone taking anything, but I don't believe the deceased would want things to be thrown out."  I bet when no one is looking she grabs all the good stuff. Let her glare. Everyone knows her and has their opinion.

I have been busier than a one armed paper hanger!! Did some running around for Kyle this morning and then home to wash dog bedding and hang out. Over to the neighbour on the back line to pick a heaping 6 qt basket of cucumbers and 6-7  big zucchinis. Received a phone call that the washing machine is in!!! :excited:  They will deliver it tomorrow afternoon....now to find out how to use it, it even has bluetooth!  Picked more beans here and will can them tomorrow..when there is time.

Jane, how was Mickies blood work. Can you give her a bit of Pepto or a tiny piece of Gravol?

Patricia, I would rather see someone use items than put them in the garbage/landfills.

Jenny, he is so cute and mini??? I bet he fills those paws!!

Gloria, we take a cooler with ice packs with us. This past year we have only been maybe twice due to covid..we go early to avoid the crowds. I thought of you when I picked up a big container of blueberries..Glorias blueberry pie!!

Going to go rest a bit..

Shame on me, I bought a box of ice cream "drumstix" at Sam's yesterday & ate 4 of them today!!! Okay, it has been a long day.  :-[   Not much to show for my day, washed only 1 load of clothes & did check how well the sprinklers did on my yard & the neighbor's. Andy told me to put a long screw driver into the ground to see how far down was wet/damp. Did a good job, but the neighbor said last night the kid he had mow, ran over the new sprinkler head that the ground around was so soggy.... and tipped the angle of the head. Think he is right so will have Andy adjust next time he is here, not sure when that will be.

Patricia, I honestly think that all my life I would have loved Alaska's temps & even the dark winters. I really do hate hot weather, to me it is a prison. Age I am now I don't tolerate TOO hot or TOO cold, just a grouchy old lady!

Amy, good luck with the washer, I'm still not used to mine. Have the manual laying on top of the 50 year old dryer & still have to double check because it senses how big the load & so many choices but some don't sling the water out as good as others so takes much longer than other cycles, and we have hard water so no matter how much softner goes in, water left in clothes still drys hard! I don't like changes & have griped about the 2021 car, too, when I thought it was like the 2013. I'm afraid to buy anything with all the changes.

Jenny, it is a darling pup but I always wonder if the mother is the tiny one how difficult to carry half a dozen little elephants!  I have not decided what kind I want, my sons think I should get a rescue a couple years old but they have never had a baby (our German Shepherd was 4 weeks old when we brought her home & she really did think she was one of the kids. By the time she was 2 years old she thought they were HER babies & I was her equal (Cas was our boss).

Both boys have had several rescues each & paid the owners as much for them as they would a pup, both felt like they didn't have time to train them, but I do. Are the kids around to help with the pup? My gr-daughter drops hers off at "doggy day care" a lot of the time, no kids yet so she can afford it. ;)

I think we had your worst air in the world today.... it was hard to breathe any time I went out & still is tonight. Radar is showing a line of showers but can't tell what's going on, animation just goes up & down. The river is down right now, not low but compared with a week or so ago, down enough to walk out to the water on the sand that used to be under water a few years ago.

Gloria, every time I stop to think about your kids building out in that "hot spot" it amazes me that they have adjusted to those temps. Southern CA was hot so maybe the dry air makes up for the heat?  Have the boys married yet?

Jane, I know how Mickie's problem concerns you, we do worry about them like human babies but so hard to diagnose & help. All the canning & work helps take your mind off BUT I'm sure your body is screaming for a few days of down time. Hugs & hope tomorrow is a better day for you both.

Jackie, so good to see you enjoying the new place. Sounds like everyone has a more caring attitude than where you lived before.

Rick, I think you see through that old lady's attitude. Some people think everyone is so dumb they don't catch on to what they do.... usually that's why they don't have any friends!

And here we are to the end of another day so guess Lloyd & I will turn off lights & say "Good Night, Every Friend".  Sweet dreams and God Bless.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

P.S.  The heat got up to 94 today and the the humidity was at 91%!  Not a day to be outside!  Thank goodness for A/C!

Good morning...

Not a bad day in the making no storms in sight!
Need to get peppers and onions for two batches of pickles plus pick up more wood . Kyle is making a cupboard for the sunroom for empty jars, BIG pots etc.

Janie ,so happy to read you are winning the battle. Hope today is a good day also!!

Shirley, I wanted a machine tat I could get water in and not just 6 inches.......can't wash with so little water. Have to put up with the door lock I guess.  Whatever happened to plain and simple???

Need to scoot....store opens at 7 for us old folks. :)

Good morning to all.......I got up early to turn the sprinklers on but as I came thru the house I heard rain start hitting the roof. Checking radar is almost funny, the blob of red & yellow is going north, south & east. Don't think we had ANY rain all night so will help the yard & turn on those sprinklers.

Jane, wish I'd have stayed up long enough for your good news last night. Glad the pills helped.

Amy, was wondering if Kyle got his driver's license okay. My last renewal was granted only because the lady slipped me by, I had trouble reading the eye chart. Scared me enough to get those cataracts removed, I didn't know they were so bad.

Instead of going outside like he wanted, when Tom heard the rain as I opened the door, he backed up & wanted to go hide in my bedroom. I don't give him the run of the house since he picked up Callie's habit of "marking", but he is a good boy in the bedroom.

Lloyd, I had to get a new rain gauge again this spring. I thought I brought it in before the first freeze last fall but was leaking so got the same type, tall one that fits on the pool fence & I can see from the sliding door.

Cats fed so will heat & eat a Jimmy Dean's sausage, egg & cheese croissant. I keep those on hand when too lazy to fix my own egg & hash browns. I still have at least one slice of toast with grape jam.  ;) Back to bed for another hour or so, I don't have a schedule these days.

Edit: Have you noticed how much later Mother Nature is turning on the lights?  I remember years ago my mother used to say, "the older you get the faster time goes"..... This year of Covid has taken away all the routine in my life, like in a daze.

Good Morning on this "Friday the 13th"  Forever more I'll look on this as a "good" day.  We slept in until 6:30 and I made Mickie her "new" breakfast.  It's still down and we're looking forward to a good day!

Shirley, those Jimmy Dean breakfasts aren't so bad when you're in a hurry.  I keep a couple on hand, too!

Good Morning, LLOYD!  You're almost always first up around here.  That must be the farmer in your soul!

I hope Everyfriend has a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  We got up to heavy fog around here.  It' looks more like October than August!

Good morning every one, slept good and woke late. Glad Yvette will not be here till noon today.

PATRICIA  in the laundry room there are 2 long tables, one for folding clothes and the other for free take. Most always someone in the laundry room but nobody cares who takes what as long as they are living here.

JENNY  a spray bottle with vinegar sprayed aroung t he sink and counters keeps ants away and it is not toxic either. My daughter discovered that in San Diego where they were pestered with those little ants.

AMY  more canning in your future. It takes time but so good when it is freezing and snowing out. My daughter intends  to make a second ba tch of relish today. I intended  to make that pie yesterday but did not feel up to it. One thing Yvette is not good a t is any kind of baking.

SHIRLEY  I can tolerate the cold better than the heat. I know I would not understand driving a new car with all the computer things and geegaws. My last car was an 87 and lasted 20 years, just about the time I was ready to quit driving. Regina's younges son has been married for 10 years but the oldest one is ba tchelor. My Arizona family go  ourtside early and late in  the day never in mid day when i t is t oo hot . Of course my SIL loves  the heat and don't think he could take one of our normal winters.

JANE  your temperature sound like mine yesterday along with the humidity weatherman said it felt like 110 outside. Feel like I am getting to be a hermit.

AMY  stores here are no longer open an hour early for us senior citizens. Since I have not been into a market in 3 years it did not bother me.

JANE  to show you how out of normal things I am I did not realize today was a Friday the 13 th. A lucky day in my family. A brother, sister in law and a brother in law born a those days. Cold not have asked for better people either.  I hope Mickie has turned the corner now on the way to good health again.

Time to get a move on and have breakfast-don't feel like eating in this heat-something cold, no hot oatmeal.
Have a good day and stay cool and inside out of the H H H weather Hazy Hot and Humid.

Good morning and another rainy day in the Interior, standard August weather here. I understand that the S.E., part of the rainforest trifecta of Washington and Oregon, has a record amount of rain. Since that is their normal, Ketchikan holds the record for rain in the US; it must be literally drowning.

I received bad news last night via a notice clipped to all doors. They are closing the parallel street on this side for two weeks, which is for all the loud machinery and workers needed to repair all the balconies. I'm sure both Farrah and I will be happy campers when they finally finish!

The donations table is in the same administrative area as the offices, mail, maintenance, and security. It's a good idea as we also have our share of hoarders, kleptomaniacs, and those who bring the family to shop until it's noticed and security gets involved. The woman who glares is a self-proclaimed religious and sees everyone else through a very narrow lens.

Jane, I'm so happy that between you and your vet, that Mickie is doing better.

Amy, busy as always, I used to be that way, and now I find I lost both my balance and energy somewhere; I don't know where but it's gone.

Shirley, you wouldn't like an arctic winter. It's dry and hard on both people and machinery. You have to plug your car in to keep the engine pan warm, and your tires can freeze in cold weather. Your energy bills and electricity skyrocket, and the ice fog can enclose and disorientate you.

We're heading for the haystack pretty quick.  We had another "no-barf day" today and Mickie seems to be feeling better.  She took two short walks with me and behaved more or less like the little old lady she is!

We had three thunder storms during the day and one before we got up this morning.  In between it was a nice sunshiny summer day.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

Starting out with a temp of 55°.

The new fangled washing mashing sits now in the basement..delivery men were really helpful at setting it in place. Now to figure out all those bells and whistles. One of the young men said some machines will even tell you when you need to go buy more pods.....REALLY!!

Canned 21 pints of Mrs B's pickle and have another batch to do today. Then will can Janies cole slaw.

Jane ,so happy that all is going well with Mickie. Our weather is behaving  so far, there were storms to the south of us  but we were fine.

Patricia, maybe Farrah will get used to the noise?? Hope the two weeks go by fast for the both of you.

Gloria, I just mentioned to Kyle I am going to pick up more jars today. Still haven't pickled his beets and I want to can more potatoes. This year I have been canning hamburg, eye of round and chicken..some for us and some for the dogs.

Better get a hitch in my git along..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I'm here but my brain is still sleeping so will talk later. Wanted to turn on those sprinklers before the wind starts so I switched sides to get the one that also waters the neighbor to come on first. I will have to go back downstairs in an hour to switch back but that won't kill me.

You girls & your canning.... I didn't know you could can potatoes or coleslaw. My mother never canned meat, either, but Cas' mother gave us a jar of meat she canned one time. Sadly, I never opened it and eventually (years) later, threw it away. Cas didn't act like he wanted to try it and I wasn't sure what it was  :-[ ... She was a wonderful cook but a couple times ate stuff & went go to the hospital to have her stomach pumped!

Patricia, don't envy you that noise but soon they will start digging the hole for the pool next door & already have had big equipment getting ready for that. Cut down 2 huge trees & had to move a sewer line & something else, (under ground lines) a lot more than they counted on. All those people did upset the cats since they run free except where people are around! I think you are probably right, I might not have enjoyed the winter fog & all.

Still no sign of Callie. I talked to a neighbor around the corner that walks a lot but she has not seen any sign of her (alive or dead). I think those falcons may have been migrating & found a fast meal, only saw them those 2 days & not since. I feel bad she is gone, she had choices and I wasn't going to take that from her.

No wind yet, Tiger didn't want to come in & eat. It's fur ball season & she eats when she is ready. Needs to eat the dry food, doesn't realize the bag says, "helps with fur balls".

Think I'll go eat a Jimmy Dean, couple pieces of toast with grape jam along with a cup of coffee & go back to bed. When I get up I will turn the other side of yard sprinklers on & drain sand out of the filter so I can add water to the pool. I get my work out with those steps to the basement today!

I forgot, this is Sat & the Farmer's Market. It is cool enough to drive over to check it out. I have not been this year, parking is not good & I have a hard time walking very far without getting super winded. They might have some real home grown stuff by now. Too many of the vendors have the same tomatoes like you get at the store, look pretty but NO taste. I have some little new one hanging on right now but not enough, still haven't had a BLT sandwich this year!

Gloria, guess we have kept up with each other longer than I realized, I remember when those boys were pretty young. I really loved apple season when you helped & showed photos of the different varieties. Nothing better than a tree ripe apple or peach.

Expect some new messages when I try post this but better move along & not sit here any longer.

Good morning everyone, another HHH day here and I would like "Scotty, beam me up to Australia and their winter" At least we had no thunder storms yesterday but the forecast is for them to start this afternoon. Thought we had enough of them last month but  August is looking like it always is so far. already 78.

PATRICIA  I remember you talking about the ice fog back when you used to walk every where. Most likely back in SN. When one of my sisters who lived in Vermont died and a brother and Sis in law took 2 other sisters and me there for the funeral. It was in January. My brother had to plug in his car in at the motel we stayed at over night. Believe me was was very cold there, too.

JANE so glad it looks like Mickie is getting to be her ole self again. I know how worried you have been about her. The thunderstorm we had Thursday  night lasted a long time. it would start sounding like it was moving on and would start all over again.

AMY  I told my daughter about you canning the hamburg and then sent her  the link to the site you posted. She has already canned some jars of it. If the ever get the batteries for the solar panels she will get a small freezer and will be able to freeze more. They ordered the batteries last year in August.  My SIL had been calling the company just about every week lately, maybe if he does that often enough they will send the next shipment of the batteies from China they will send them to him. A shame when we have no one in this country that can make them here.

SHIRLEY  I miss Mike's orchard a lot. I enjoyed working  the stand for him and seeing folks I knew in  this  town  that I hadn't seen in years. I enjoyed meeting those who stopped  to buy and not pick, explaining the different varieties. But mostly eating as many as I wanted freshly picked.

Think I better get a move on and get ready for Bill's weekly visit.
Have a good day and be safe.

Good Morning Everyone
from the hot and humid
rocky coast of Maine.

Looking forward to the next few days
when this heat and humidity goes
away.

Issues with air quality are still
happening from all those
forest fires out West.  yikes !!

I have got in the habit of not
eating food stored in the refrigerator
for more then a couple of
days.  Unless it is fruit or
the like where you can see
if it is rotting out.

I do not want to suffer food
poisoning because I think that
every time I get sick
from something I ate just
chips away at my old body's
resources..

So I try to be careful about what
I put in it that might be
tainted.

I hope that you all have a good
weekend.  I am hanging in there and
doing good.

I just found out that my grocery
store (Hannaford's) is now in the
delivery business.    Hooray in case
my Kelly can't make it.

I can't wait to see just how that works
out as delivery in the city is a
little more difficult for them.

Peace ...
:xoxo:

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND, from pretty blue sky Colorado.  Thank goodness the smoke is being sent up and back to the West for now‼️ Sorry for those folks, but thankful for a reprieve for us.

JANE, so good to read Mickie is doing so much better.

Nice to read your post, SANDY.

PATRICIA, I certainly can relate to your post to Amy,  "Amy, busy as always, I used to be that way, and now I find I lost both my balance and energy somewhere; I don't know where but it's gone." My surgery will be two weeks from yesterday and that seems like eternity for me....I am so tired of dealing with this non useable and painful shoulder of mine.....it just wears me down😩😤

GLORIA, hope you and Bill had a nice visit.

SHIRLEY, I am sad to read that Callie is still missing and to think what may have happened to her😩😩 UGH, having to deal with the noise and mess from the pool being put in next door😩‼️

AMY, happy your new washer has arrived. I wish I could have my old GE top loader that I bought in 1969 in Germany back again.  I could do anything I desired with that machine....now the machine that I have won't let me do anything 😡

I just read on FaceBook that Judith Carr passed away the 11th of August.  I know some of you might remember her.  Not sure if she was active anymore or not?

Guess I had best at least TRY to accomplish something today 😤

Have a good one‼️

Canning is done.and so am I!

Jane, I did 10 pints of your cole claw...with a wee dib left over in the fridge....now to wait the two weeks to try it!! Hope today went well.....Babe is ok now, she ate her supper.

Shirley, I heard about canned potatoes from my sons girlfriend. Her Mom cans them for her Dad who is diabetic and has no worries when he eats the canned ones as the starch comes out of them as they sit. I open a jar, wash the starch off and prepare them how we like, which is usually in the air fryer.

Jenny, one needs to be a Philadelphia lawyer to use this machine. What ever happened to the ones with 3 knobs.....one for water ,one for type of clothing and one to push to start?

Gloria, I love the canned meat, so convenient when short on time and I forget to bring meat out of the freezer. Can whip up a meal in jig time.

Going to go put me feet up for a bit..have played frisbee with the panting pup, now tis my turn for a rest.

I haven't posted today because I didn't have anything good to say....until now.  I cooked a couple of chicken thighs in the crock pot, chopped them up in the blender and got down on the floor with the dish to coax Mickie to eat one of them.  I didn't have to coax.  She gobbled it up!  And her tummy pill was included!  So what might have been a bad day just turned into a good one!

My daughter drove my car to the recycle place because I already had it loaded when she got here so she put the last heavy thing in, drove it up and got rid of all the "stuff"!  Then she took her car and went to the grocery store.

Frankie is home from vacation and she came by and picked up Cooper.  Boy!  Was he ever happy to see her!

Our weather here was beautiful!  The high was only 80º and there was a nice breeze all day!  Tomorrow is supposed to be even better with a high of 79 and the humidity at 56%.  I'll take it!

I hope you are all having a good day!  AMY, be sure to wait the 2 weeks (I think I might have been 2 days short) for the cole slaw!  I know you're going to love it.

SHIRLEY, it's so nice of you to water your neighbor's grass.  Not many would do that!  Let's just say "Callie went off to join friends in the hereafter!"  We don't really have to know how she got there!  I know it's hard, though!

Guess I better find something for my supper!  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jane, so glad you got food & the pill down Mickie.... even if only one time it makes us feel better to see them happy, right? Thanks for understanding about Callie. For all the trouble & damage she did to the house, was worth it for getting to know her.

I'm heading to the other end of the house early, for a much needed shower & wash my hair & then get out what to wear to church early in the morning. My son & wife will have their 2 grands for the night so they will be at church & McDonald's with us, doesn't happen often so a treat.

Had another update today & now the computer goes off completely instead of sleeping. Not sure if all the updates (& do have that opening screen for updates) or if this laptop is wearing out. Don't remember when I bought it. Hey, 9:00 pm & I am still trying to get my supper! Got side tracked out putting Round Up (another brand) on weeds in the sidewalk & driveway, then took the weed whip to ivy growing up the brick. I don't let it get more than knee high so I can whack it off easier! Mowers should be here Monday & they will have their work cut out. I may be looking for new guys, they've got so many yards to take care of on their days off & I do have to be here to unlock gates so can't just drop by any time. I vetoed giving them a key because they aren't great about shutting gates & with a pool that is not an option.

Better go check the microwave. I couldn't get it to do the 50% power so maybe IT is also getting worn out. I'll check & make up my own rules for how long instead of following directions on package. Marie will have to understand.  ;)

Sweet dreams & God Bless.
