Buckets of Rain
Bob Dylan

Buckets of rain
Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets comin' out of my ears
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand
You got all the love
Honey baby, I can stand

I been meek
And hard like an oak
I seen pretty people disappear like smoke
Friends will arrive, friends will disappear
If you want me
Honey baby, I'll be here

I like your smile
And your fingertips
Like the way that you move your lips
I like the cool way you look at me
Everything about you is bringing me misery

Little red wagon
Little red bike
I ain't no monkey but I know what I like
I like the way you love me strong and slow
I'm takin' you with me
Honey baby, when I go

Life is sad
Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must
You do what you must do and ya do it well
I'll do it for you
Honey baby, can't you tell?

KEN

COME WITH ME

Come with me to share
a cool and bright garden spring,
to smell the sweet honeysuckle,
and to hear the song birds sing.

Come with me to share
the warmth of the noonday sun,
and to feel the gentle breezes
before the night has begun

Come with me to share
the setting sun from afar,
as the moon yawns and awakens,
and night brings twinkling stars.

Come with me to share
all of nature's awesome gifts.
Take my hand in loving friendship,
as we share heavenly bliss.

The reality of the other person is not in what he reveals to you, but in what he cannot reveal to you. Therefore, if you would understand him, listen not to what he says but rather to what he does not say.

Good foggy morning...

No a/c on yesterday ,cool air blowing through the house 49° at the moment.

Putting away the spoils of yesterday and maybe see if this new fangled washing machine will obey what I want it to do.

Bubble, thank you for the new start page..wisdom in words.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Another "thank you" from me, Bubble. Love the graphics & other text but think Kahlil Gibran's words hit the nail on the head.

Amy, not nearly as cool as you but do have the door open and can hear the little rooster crowing. I've been up more than an hour, turned the sprinklers on so they will be done before I leave for church. Tom came in to eat then wanted back outside. Tiger is sleeping on my computer chair in the basement, gave her a hug as I went past to the sprinkler controls. They both act a little lost without Callie, she ruled. Just checked, 72°. Other mornings I would go back to bed about now, but must get dressed & start the day.

Pulled out another Jimmy Dean to eat before I take my aspirin... it is my blood thinner & not what the doctors recommend, but doesn't do as much damage to the rest of my body as those thinners do. My choice & so far doing okay 8 & 1/2 years after the open heart surgery. At least as good as Cas did & he was willing to take all the pills they recommended. We all need to make our own choices, I think. My charts have a lot of "patient refuses" on the pages & that doesn't offend me, doctors have to show they offered.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Right now it is 63º and heading for a high of only 79.  When we got up at about 6:30 it was 56.  Gonna be a nice day today!

Mickie went out and did what she should, came in and ate about a quarter cup of chicken with no coaxing.  It's not the food that the vet wants her to have but it's food!

BUBBLE, thanks for our new place!  It's beautiful, clean and thought-provoking!

I wonder what the day will bring?  I hope you all have a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone it  was a nice cooler night and now is 64 at 7:30 am. Don't know what got into me over the week end but all I did was sleep. Bothe sons were here Saturday morning and when they left I laid on the couch and slept most of the afternoon away. 8 hours Saturday night and most of yesterday. Hope I can stay awake all day  today.

JENNY  wish I had my left shoulder replaced but  when Unitd Health dropped that group I could not  afford it.  Now I am too old to even think about it.

AMY  only home canned meat I ever tried was rabbit. A brother in law's mom canned some every year and he brought a jar to my Mom. I t was OK I guess but the thought of eating a cute bunny kind ot turned me off.

JANE  wonderful you sneaked that pill into Mickie and she gobbled it down with the chicken.

SHIRLEY  this computer came with Windows 7 installed, Grandson installed 10 in it la ter and that is wha t I use. Everytime there is an upda te it will install whe ther i want it or no t. Always goes back to 7 and I have to restart and pick the 10 when it starts. Every time I shut it off I have to do that. At times I feel like asking my grandson if he can puit in a new hard drive and get rid of the one installed.

BUBBLE  thank  you again for the new page with beautiful graphics and words.

LLOYD  hope you enjoyed your oatmeal yesterday.

CALLIE  hello, nice to see you pop in.

Have a good day everyone and be happy.

Good morning, another dreary, gray, rainy day. I see the construction crew has set up equipment on the sidewalk. However, I don't see them working in a steady rain. I don't know anything about the process, and I know they must have a schedule for this job and others, so we shall see.

I believe I'll invoke Callie again.

No matter how we think we are prepared for this day, it is a shock that leaves us wilted. we Had a good day Here, we got the RV license up to date. a while back we got the drive (rea end renewed) now we have to fil the water tank and check there is no leaks or bad water lines. I will fill the hold tank and flush it, make sure it is alright. I am more ascus than Nancy is to travel, But I want to take off and figure out some of your home twenty's and ratel your door's. I will try to pick a good time of day to do that. Our age Is Limited to a lot more travel. Maybe we can get some of the children to travel and do some of the driving. the living room is well suited right behind the driving and passenger seats so everyone can see the scenery as we travel. good Night and sweet dreams.

Good morning...

Rain today and it has already started. Hope I can sneak out in between rain showers and pull beets to pickle. Beans were done yesterday with a last little dibs going into the dogs food with some prime rib off the roast.

We are off this morning to pick up varnish for Kyle and I need more jars. Beets and potatoes will be the last  to can....maybe a bit of turnip too.

Jane, I know I said I would try to wait on test tasting the cole slaw..well..the dish was right in front of me when opening the fridge, opened the lid a bit and got a wee bit..oh my gosh!! Can't wait till the time is up on this because what I had and without mayo was delicious!!! I will be doing a lot more of this!!

Patricia, lets hope they get the job done quicker than expected  for you.

Shirley, I did get laundry done in this new fangled machine but oh my what a difference from the old one.  It hums, whirs ,the water will come in in bits till it reaches the level needed to wash. Rinsing is a whole new ball game in this one as you don't get a tub full of water. It will spray water, spin, spray   the agitator will go one way then the next. Why anyone would make such a simple machine so complex is beyond me. I will say though I can get two loads of laundry in it...stand on tippy toes to get it out though and it spins it almost dry! Guess I will just have to learn how to use it better.

Gloria, the other day when we were at the optometrist, he was telling me how the bunny at dandelions....plus his garden too. The bunny would pick the dandelion....start at the end of the stem and work his way up to the flower and discard the flower!! Must admit that would be so cute to watch. :)

Phyllis, the next thing I am going to try in the AF is pineapple rigs dipped in cinnamon sugar. Will post the recipe if they turn out.

Lloyd, we now travel close to home. We have been across Canada and into 17 States but now stick close to home.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This was a strange morning!  I didn't run out in the yard in my pajamas and I didn't wait out there while a doggie took care of business.  I came out of my bedroom fully dressed and teeth brushed and hair combed.  It sure felt odd.  And I kept looking for a little black shape to love.

AMY, you'll get used to the washer.  It doesn't take long.  Mine is old but it was new when I moved here and I finally figured out that I mostly only needed two settings and I could ignore all the rest most of the time.  And that's an OLD washer!

Cooper just arrived and now he's telling me he's finished with his breakfast and ready for a walk.  It's drizzling so it'll be a "raincoat walk".

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday (that's a given for me), but not as good as tomorrow!

JANE  I am so sorry about Mickie. I know how you feel. Af ter the las t dog I really loved went over the bridge I swore I would never get attached to another one. Hugs for YOU my Friend.

AMY  my son has had fans eat the veggies coming up in his garden and he said they were so cute he could not chase them out. One bad winter the deer ate all the future buds off the lower branches of all his apple trees. In spring when the trees bloomed all the lower branches were bare.

Have a good day eveyone.

All day I planned to get a nap but kept doing things that I couldn't go off & leave. Went to Walmart about 5 miles away to get the cats some canned salmon, only had ONE can & even had a stock boy see if they had more. Came home & went to the little Walmart near me & discovered they had some in this time so got 8 cans. At least this is $3. a can & not the $5 for better brands, & they do not get "skinless/boneless"! Got home & put my load of darks in the washer, never go off & leave a washer or dryer running & always stick close to grab darks out before they bleed on each other.

Had a good look at the kitchen cabinet & there lay those darn bananas waiting to be put into a cake!  :tickedoff: After all the trouble I've gone to this week to bake that cake, (bought a new double boiler to make the 7 min icing, new baking POWDER (it takes soda & powder), dug out the cake pans & had forgotten I even bought new ones ?sometime?.  Had to call my sister for amount of baking powder because my card/recipe was faded... It's in the oven, all those bowls & measuring stuff in the sink so got to get them washed to make the icing.... and have flour on this dark oak floor  :o ...

WHY am I doing this, because I need my head examined, for sure!  I do think this cake is more trouble than the German Chocolate (scratch in both cases). Besides, not sure who will be around to help eat. This has been a family joke that "Cas married me for my sister's banana cake".... and I am not sure I ever made it for the grands & know not the great grands. Wanted to give it a try before anyone is invited to taste.... if it comes out too bad I can take down to the river & hopefully something will eat it.

Better get the cooling racks out, I forgot how to bake/cook! Can't make the icing until the cake is cool. All 3 layers better come up right!  Oops there's the buzzer!

Well, Cooper kept me busy today!  We took two long walks and a shorter one and had a few outings in the yard, too.  He had breakfast and supper with me.  And in between, Frankie took him to the vet and got him treated for fleas and worms in his doodoos.  And she gave him a bath.  She said the vet told her that the shot she gave him for fleas works so fast that she might find dead one on her car seat on the way home.  I hope they have a good night tonight because they sure didn't have a good one last night.

I'm making a quick trip to Davy's tomorrow and I have potatoes on my list.  I have to pass them on the way to the vet and I noticed that they have freshly dug local potatoes on their sign.  Canning some potatoes should help me pass some time!

I miss my little girl and I probably will for a while.  Heck I still miss Annie and she's gone almost 2 years. It's so easy to become used to having their loving company.

I'm gonna head for the haystack pretty soon.  So I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Ours will be rainy and it's supposed to be rainy until Sunday!  That's a lot of gloomy weather!

Jane, when our "pup" died I cried for weeks every day when I was alone, kids gone to school & Cas off to work. Alone is SO lonely. I am surprised how much I miss Callie, she has been part of our life for about 7 years at least.

Not sure there will ever be another Banana Cake that comes from THIS kitchen! Those new pans are bigger than the old, so the layers are flatter. The frosting never reached those "peaks" like it did when I used Karo syrup instead of the Cream of Tartar, all in all, I have my doubts about it setting up & flaky like I remember. Have no idea why I thought I HAD to do this.
UPDATE: Icing is actually firm & flaky. Finally to bed.

Good morning...

Muggy morning here and no t storm visited during the night.
We are off to the lumber store this morning, Kyle needs lumber to build another trug plus a top for it. We are meeting the nicest people through this endeavor. The love of gardening has brought us all together. Trials and errors are being dealt with and hope that next year will be better.

Need to coral the dust bunnies  or rather dog hair tumble weeds today.

Friend called and we are exchanging cucumbers and recipe this morning. Then drop off some pickles to another friend.

Shirley, knowing in our hearts that we gave our furkids the best life they could have helps somewhat. Woo whoo on the icing, nice that everything turned out the way it should!

Gloria, your son helped the deer survive the winter! I hope the new apple crop will soon be in here. A nice apple pie sounds inviting. I cheated and bought a pie at Costco a strawberry rhubarb one and it was horrible! Even crows had a difficult time making it disappear! :2funny:

Best get ready for the day..better go wake Babe up as she is still in bed!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning everyone,  Vanilla-Jackie and amy and all that follow today. I need to get Nancy in the mood to travel. I am ready, the RV is in shape except for topping the fuel tank. as I said the other day, we are at the age our travel is going to be limited. we need to plant the seed for the mood of some of the younger ones to get in and go with us, Mabey one of the daughters and son's in Laws. I think Mabey Nancy is thinking of getting ready she said a few min. ago might want to go see one of our grandsons and his wife at Boise Idaho. that suites me also. we could go on east from there to Pennsylvania to our Cousens place. we have ben there before, but another time would be ok. it Is 66º and clear here this Morning, saying to get on up there today. Have a good day like you like just be carful.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm thankful that I still have Cooper's company.  He doesn't take Mickie's place but he sure does make his own place and he gives me company.

It started to rain here supposedly around 3 a.m. and it's still raining.  We are supposed to have it off and on until Sunday.  I have my list ready for Davy's and I'm going to stand by their bin and clean corn ears until I'm tired of doing that.  I like bringing them home already cleaned.  Then I'll cut the corn off, eat some of it fresh and freeze the rest.  I also have potatoes on my list but I think I'll try to pick them up on Saturday and work on them Sunday and Monday while their store is closed.  Gotta stay busy!

I better sign off and get ready to meet Cooper.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

At last i got my safety hand rails installed, man just this minute left after fitting one inside my shower unit and another outside the main front door, so i now have something solid to grab hold of on the brick wall, as i take the double step from inside my door to the ground outside...this has taken 2 & a half months of waiting...Told someone else will contact me as to fitting a ramp from the conservatory outside for getting my mobility scooter in and out to the back garden patio, so i can ride it through the back gate to the front driveway....

Vanilla-Jackie, the scooters are a blessing. I am a veteran, VA's doctor prescribed One for me. I have a artificial Knee joint in my right leg. and my stability is still not good. i sometimes stumble and fall so I ride my scooter in to store's. I get ahold of the shopping cart with my left hand in the rt front Conner and Lead it around. if the item is too big to get and put in the cart with rt hand setting down I get up and do it. also it is too heavy I get help from another customer or a store employ. I have a Dollie here at home I can transfer it to and wheel it in the house from garage to house.  works for me. Have a good day

So much for chasing dust bunnies. Picked up the lumber and went to the grocery store for jars, no jars but two baskets  of dill cucumbers came home with me. Stopped at my friends and exchanged the recipe for what I thought was cucumbers for the tables but two huge bags later we came home.
Met my neighbour and shared some cucumbers with her so I just have 1/2 the cucumbers to do now. So I guess you could say we both are going to get pickled!

All this will make good eating (for Kyle)  in the months to come.

Better get at them..

I've been off the computer for a couple of days again and I haven't been able to catch up with all the reading here but want to say to Jane how sorry I am about Mickie.  You will miss her for a long time but you will always remember the good times you had with her.  We lost our little Charlie Brown more than 39 years ago and I still think of him and miss him from time to time.

Hello to everyone.  I hope to get back one of these days and post more often.

Take care, All.

Secure railings are so important,
and I stress "SECURE"  (not those
dangerous stick to the walls kind,
or simple towel holders.

I have four secure railings in
my tub/shower.   I wish that I
had a walk in shower,  but I
don't.  My tub/shower is very secure.

Jackie,  I hope that you get your
ramp installed so you can go outside
easier.    Glad you now have
hand railings.

All is well here.  Looking forward
to Fall  (not falling!)

Sandy..oh yes, mine are secure, no more relying on a shower suction handrail...they cant be trusted...plus when it gets greasy behind them, they lose their suction and fall off from the tiles..

Good morning from an Interior at 40° with an expected high of 58°. We are on a break from the past eleven days of steady rain, and we have dense fog this morning. The rain will return soon, and our daily light has decreased as fall is here with all that portends. If all goes as usual, September and October will be cooler, colorful, and beautiful.

The construction crew has been working steadily, to my surprise, in all that rain. I imagine that workers outside envy the crew inside those large machines doing the heavy lifting and placement. This building takes up an entire block, and the front side is finished. They're working on the north side balconies, and I expect our western side's turn soon.

Good morning, Amy. I have the portable heater plugged in. I know we're not supposed to, and I know it can trick the heating system, sensors and it runs on an excess of electricity. But, management has yet to install my missing weatherstripping, and it has yet to turn on this building's heat.

Good morning, Phyllis and Jane! I still have loving memories, so many, all the way back to Polly and Rochester, my mother's Pomeranians who were a large part of my childhood.

Lloyd, a trip to visit relatives, sounds nice to me too. At this time of year in Alaska, it is like driving back in time as you leave the arctic and travel into warmer climes. We took the ferry from Haines, Alaska, to Prince Rupert in Canada and entered the US via Minnesota.

Sandy, I live in a senior, disabled building, five floors, and 189 one-bedrooms and studios.  The bathrooms here practically bristle with bolted in metal railings. I would be incapable of using my tub and shower without them! The studios all have one huge shower rather than a tub shower combo.

Oh, YUM, Amy, I love the smell of dill. I don't have any growing that I know of but now & then will get a whiff of it when outside. I never cared for pickles but Mom canned them & always put lots of garlic in the dills. Cas loved the "zesty bread & butter" Vlasic & zesty dills. He just loved pickles as did our daughter & her kids. I used to take the pickles off my hamburgers at McDonald's & those little kids would eat them. For some reason when you ask to "leave the pickles off".... you get bare hamburgers, no mustard, catsup, mayo & onions, tomatoes & lettuce. Haha, it doesn't make sense but has worked that way and I've been to all the fast food places around!

Amy, I always heard if "you got pickled the best cure was more of the same"....Hair of the dog or something like that.  ;D

Good to see you, Phyllis.

Glad you got the grab bars, Jackie! Takes time to get everything done.

Lloyd, don't wait on the younger kids to go along, remember how busy you were at their age! I have been telling my kids to take time out to enjoy more and don't wait until they are in their 80s and the body can't do everything we dreamed of! Happy travels. I don't hesitate to stop on the "outskirts" of a Walmart parking lot, lock all the doors & take a nap. If anyone sees a near 30', tan, motorhome with 4-Winds on the front & Kansas tag on back, knock on the door & say "Hello"..... I don't shoot unless scared & so far that has never happened!  ;D

Oops, several of you snuck in & 3 phone calls, one from son that he is on his way over to fix a couple sprinkler heads... with HIS gr-son in tow.

A good Wednesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Oh no, JANE.  I am so sad for you that your Sweet Mickie has gone over Rainbow Bridge.  Everything sounded so positive that she was doing better. I know having Cooper there is helping you keep busy🙏

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday, and surgery is scheduled for 4 PM on Friday the 27th.  Being a diabetic it does concern me that the surgery is so late in the day. 😩

Seems every couple of days there is more bad news to confront me!  Sometimes counting our blessings gets a bit more difficult when our hearts are aching😩🙏

JACKIE, so glad your safety bars have been installed.  They must make you feel so much more secure when using them. I sure hope it won't take another two months to get the ramp installed😩😘

It has taken us all morning to get through my surgery instructions.  Do take this pill....don't do that stuff.

Have a great day.

Shirley, I don't know about more of the same hair as I am all pickled out at the moment. The end results have 15 jars cooling on the counter. I have an order put in for #2 size cucumbers and will do 12 quarts of those in dills and that is it. Should keep Kyle in pickles for the winter. Need to get about 30 lbs of beets and he will be well pickled .  :2funny:

Patricia, love the photos of your family. We have the a/c going here this morning,of course I didn't help much with all the cooking and canning but it is cooling off in here now.

Jenny, this time will seem to go so slow at first then it will be surgery day. In no time you will be back to PT and then everything will hopefully be as good as new again. You have had more than enough on your plate lately and tis time for things to go easier for you.

Think supper will be a quicky tonight..bacon and eggs with a side of homefries and baked beans it will be..

Well, I'm sleepy and ready for the haystack.  I feel like I didn't do much today except a couple of walks with Cooper and a casserole for supper.  Of course, I did do 4 short errands, too.  I picked up a prescription, dropped off some dog food for the pet shelter, picked up coffee from Starbucks and stopped at Davy's.  I guess I'm allowed to be tired.

It rained hard off and on all day and it will continued off and on all night and all day tomorrow.  I might try to make a quick trip to WM to get a hair cut tomorrow.  It's waaaaaay past time! But that's a big IF!

PATRICIA, I looked at your pictures and I love them.  I have some of my grandmother's family when they were growing up and they are so solemn!

I think I'll sign off before my eyes decide to enter slam shut stage.  I can never see when they do tha!  I wonder why?  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, looks like I had another sleepy day yesterday. Woke very early  this morning. Yesterday Yvet te woke me when she called from down in the foyer. Today I will be up and dressed when she gets here.

LLOYD  I would love to walk on the beach again, just where the waves wash up on the sand. Ahh the aroma of the ocean water. Enjoy your trip and drive careful.

SHIRLEY  hope your banana cake turned outt wonderful. Wish I had the energy to make piecrust from scratch again, Dislike those bought ones, never flakey they way they should be. Yvette can cook OK but not bake. I always liked doing both but canot stand on my own 2 feet anymore.

JANE  rain is due to start this morning and  Tstorms early afternoon.  I know when my DIL called me to tell me she just got home from the vet where she had "MY" dog put to sleep. That was 7 or  8 years ago and when I go to Mike's I still look for her.

AMY  Mike does not have many apple trees left after 3 years of lat e frost killing the blossoms and the a year with the gypsy moth caterpillars. Don't know if any other areas were hit like we were. This is the second time I remember them denuding trees. They can strip a big tree in a day. Not one leaf left  on them. He now goes just over the border into Conn. to pick apples and he always bring me some. Still miss picking a Mac off the tree, wiping it and biting into i t, nice and juicy and tart. Only time to really enjoy a Mac, they get soft fast but the do make a tasty pie.

JACKIE  I had my  son inst all a safety bar to make it easier to get into the tub at the apartment I had in his house. He just could not understand why I needed it. In this apartment there are rails all around the bathroom and a walk in shower. At times I would love to soak in a tub again.

PHYLLIS  who ever started calling old age the "golden years" must have been a very young person.  At least we do not have wo punch a timecard every day or drive to work in a snow storm or heavy traffic.

SANDY  glad these apartments have walk in showers. I would never be able to step over the side of a tub anymore. My son and DIL often tell me I can go to their home and get knto their whirlpool tub and I keep telling then I would never be able to get  in or out  of it.

PATRICIA  would love to start the day at 40 instead of the mid 70's. Only 53 apartments in this building on 3 floors. We have so many new tenamts since las t year and everyone wearing a mask  we don' t recognize each other. The witch insists everyone put a mask on before leaving our apartments. Sitting out  on the porch we  take them off but  still have to keep distance. Guess her precautions work because no one  in this place has had covid.

SHIRLEY  I always ask for no onions ov a burger. I always open the bun and if I see and onion I send it back. Raw  onions chase me to the bathroom to upchuck.

JENNY  I wish you the best on Friday. Have you asked how long the replacement shoulder will last? I never did and mine is now 10 years and still great. I hope you get a therapist af ter as good as the one I had. He made it fun and not work. We had a lot of laughs during those weeks.

PATRICIA  love those old photos. So good to see he smiles and not the somber faced posed photos.

Have a good day and keep safe and cool.  Think I will go back to bed for a few hours.

Good morning...

Starting out at 61° with cotton ball clouds..

Need to go back into town after a customer stops in for a moment. While I was getting pickled yesterday he was getting their trug built and it will be ready to go tomorrow or Sat. If I don't soon bake Kyle will hike it to Shirley for some banana cake!!

Gloria, good to see  you this morning. I know how frustrating it is to do all that work in Mike's orchard only to have critters  destroy it. Maybe I should make pastry and some pies and buttertarts  with it.

Jane, did you get your potatoes at Davey's? The neighbour and I can't wait till we can dig into our potatoes and see how well /or not they have done.  I am also thinking on canning turnip ,that would also be handy to have on hand. Can throw it along with the potatoes in the air fryer. I am good at making work for me.

Better get a wiggle on it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Gloria...
...oh how i would love to lay back in a bath again, and preferably with an Elemis muscle soak, or Radox...but i know very well from past experience, i would never get myself back out of it...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Once more, I came out of my bedroom fully dressed, with my face washed and my teeth brushed and the bed made.  I wonder how long it's been since I've done that?

It's only going into the low 80s today and no rain.  Everyone in the neighborhood is mowing grass today.  I actually sat out on the porch for about 15 minutes this morning with my coffee. Then I came in and got busy.

AMY, they didn't have the baskets of potatoes yet so I bought corn and I have 8 jars in the canner that are about half done!  I haven't canned corn in a long time but the book says how to do it "cold pack" and I'm thinking that might be OK!  I'll try it and see and if I like it, I'll get some more before the corn is done.  It was pretty easy to do.... if the canner doesn't blow up!  I have a thing about pressure canners since I was in on it when my Mother had one blow up!  It hasn't stopped me but it sure does make me cautious!

Cooper isn't here today so I'm missing Mickie!  I know she's better but I'm not!  Yet!

I hope you all have a good day.... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for August 15, 2021

Jane, your corn will taste a lot better than the store canned corn.  Toda's  pressure canners do have a safety feature built into them so no scrapping tomato sauces off the ceiling. Understand, I still think Peepers is going to call out  but know she too is in a better place. Golden girl is now running free of her pain too.

Today has been a mixed up one so far but hope to get something done before it disappears on me.Have all the jars labeled now to put them in the basement.

Good morning, 41° with steady rain and all five rivers running high this  August. Before that last disastrous flood in 1967, we, the villages, towns, and this city, often flooded in August. After 1967, they build the Chena Lakes's series of dams and flood plains.

The people moved off their homesteads filed suits, but we haven't had a major flood in this area since. In the early parts of this city's life, as a trading post, boomtown, and gold camp on through to incorporation, each September saw the rebuilding of all the connecting bridges.

Speaking of bridges, the city will finish those two major ones to the east and south in November! It's been a year of having to go all over town to get to market! The taxis have made a mint off of the two bridge rebuilds!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for August 15, 2021
Post by: Shirley on August 19, 2021, 01:25:38 PM
Jane, I didn't have a blow up but early after buying our first house was cooking a pot of beans & walked past, flipped that "dinger" off the top & beans dripped from the ceiling, down the back of the gas stove & all over the stove. You never saw such a mess! Cas was in college next town over so had to wait till he got home to help with the worst. THAT never happened again but it sure made me cautious. I do have a newer on that doesn't have a "dinger" on top, but it gets my respect!

Saw the falcon or hawk floating over head again just now. Tom & Tiger are in the house, I got the flea & tick stuff on them so keeping them separated so they won't try to clean each other off.

The monster diggers are digging for the pool next door, heavy equipment running all around. This house is fairly sound proof so I went out to see how it's going. Since they had to cut down 2 huge trees the cat digger had to get those roots out before being able to remove the sand. Cloudy but no rain showing on radar, their biggest fear is rain filling that hole & washing all the sand back in. Trucks are hauling off as fast as they can. And here I have a pool I'd love to donate!

Amy, last night I looked at the 2 bananas left over & actually debated whether to make another cake or throw them away. They are too ripe for me but perfect for a cake. I controlled myself with memories of all those pots, pans, bowls & measuring stuff that had to be washed and decided I would wait until today to throw the bananas away when they were MUCH to ripe to use!

Jackie, my 86 year old friend is also having trouble getting up & down. All of a sudden it has hit her but know it is just getting old. Your teak wood bench sounds wonderful. Sorry you are getting to know "the aging process" before your time but sounds like you are doing better with the new place & help.

Gloria, I was not the best pie crust maker, but one thing I did do a lot of. My fav is still those Golden delicious for pies & know you didn't approve  :-[  ... I like soft & sweet .... Do wish we could all sit around a big table & share our favorites!

Aren't you girls even tempted to stick your fingers under those potato plants & pluck out a few little ones to boil for lunch? Oh, yum.... big chunk of butter~~~ I'll help~~

Back to doing what must be done.  Oops, Patricia, you jumped in. That was about the time the city of Wichita put in what we lovingly call "The Big Ditch". It is a by-pass for the Arkansas River excess to detour around the city. First dam is just west of my house about half a mile. I was assured that "even if the dam broke we would be safe from flooding because this area is 12 foot higher than downdown Wichita and as the water spread out, we were safe from any reaching our houses". That was welcome news because we had already signed the papers & paid for the house (company buy out of other house made that part  possible).

Good afternoon everyone. well I got energetic and went out and opened up the role up door on the box truck and picked up and re piled what lumber had fell over in the move here, and re arranged the tools so can get to them to use. only thing I will have to buy new that I see is a new thickness planer. I will go see the insurance co. lade and see if I can still turn in it as one of the stolen items. it sure is not here and do not see it as being on the sale list. either way it is a drop in the bucket as to cost of lost $$$ with the sale. the sun came out bright with a clear sky.  I hope the grand children and I can come to agreements as to putting the wood working equipment in the shop so we can both use it. Have a great day.

Today has been busy and there are still jobs waiting to be done........oh well....another day.

Shirley, I love the little potatoes, wash ,leave the skins on,cook and slater with butter. :))

New peas and potatoes in a light, not heavy, cream sauce gets my vote.

Shirley, we have five rivers; two wander through the city and three on the outskirts. We'd have more ditches than the city!  :)

I just looked it up and bridges in the city and outskirts number 58! I didn't realize there were that many! Of course, some are not large.

The Chena River Flood Project was two years in the making and spawned a huge recreational area and several dikes and flood plains.

This western portion of the Interior of the Tanana Valley river basin includes nine major rivers, including our five local ones. We're forests, lowlands, rivers, lakes, and hot springs. Southeast has all the industry, and we have all the trade routes and transportation. We also have the largest hospital complex serving everywhere but Southeast in the state.

I really wish we had more name-brand stores, but it doesn't seem to be happening.

I heard this afternoon that they would be replacing all bedroom and balcony windows and doors this fall. And that my balcony will be tomorrow as they're going up and down rather than across this side of the building. That answers my question about the missing weatherstripping. I'm sure the windows will be later, but tomorrow is a good day to go shopping!

Well, Patricia, maybe "name brand" stores aren't necessary since our shelves sure have a lot of empty spots these days. I made a crack to one man that "surely, ALL this stuff doesn't come from China"... and he thought probably truck driver problems. Reminded me of long ago when my cousin had a trucking company to Fairbanks, expect a lot of empty shelves at times. Don't know how many trucks he had, but he was not the most dependable person in the world!

Did I corrupt you, Amy?  ;) Kyle will never know if you sneak a few out. 8)

Lloyd, can you add extra room onto the shop. I am doing whatever it takes to make things work around here, decided what I spend to make it easier for me will be passed on to the kids without the government getting their fingers in it (like if it was money in the bank).

Tiger is still mad at me for holding her down to put the flea & tick stuff on. She hasn't come up from the basement all day. Tom came in & ate his supper & went outside.

The big trucks & caterpillar tractor gone & suppose they will need to use smaller equipment to keep the sand up until they can put the forms for the concrete in place. I was shocked at the price it costs to put in a pool, but got it from more than one source. $75,000. & that didn't include taking out 2 large trees & all the extra concrete work around. I've done nothing but bad mouth this pool of mine but will take better care for re-sale value! Already spent a lot having it replastered & new fence around it & hope that's it for as long as I'm here (except for routine maintenance & opening/closing each year, something I can't do by myself.)

And now, ladies & gentlemen, time to fix something for me to eat. I pulled a tub of taco soup out of the freezer for lunch, tasted pretty good. Nothing sounds good but don't want to eat late like several nights this week.... supper was about time to go to bed, not smart!

But what will your fur-baby do without you to protect her, Patricia?  Will they be having doors & windows open that she could escape?

Patricia, is that with fresh mint also?

Shirley, I love potatoes any which way one makes them. The neighbour called me last year and wanted to know if I wanted the little ones that they didn't want......silly question :) I said I would be right there to pick them up! Most of them I canned. We are experiencing empty shelves here also.  I am stalking up now on paper products, hand wipes and gathering from the garden all that I can.

Amy, mint is another wild plant that grows everywhere, that and fiddle leaf ferns, wild carrots, various mushrooms, and wild onion, among others. Just make sure it's washed really well in three parts ACV and two parts water, rinse, and repeat! It's everywhere you look.

Shirley, we have national brand jewelry stores and groceries, such as Safeway, Fred Meyers, and Walmart. We have all the sports, hunting, and hardware such as Lowes, Sentry, Samson, Home Depot, and homegrown hardware stores you could want. We have Walgreens and Costco, Joanns and Michaels. We have various malls that I understand are spurned by military wives as not up to snuff.

What I would like and Anchorage has are stores such as Nordstroms, Macy's, Clinique, West Elm, and that type. Since Anchorage is an eight-hour over the foothills drive from here, it'd be nice if we had our own. Anything shipped to here is automatically 32% higher freight than the lower 48. We have some trucking, but the majority is by railroad and second by plane.

This was a strange day!  I kept looking for Mickie to be careful I didn't step on her and when I ate, I watched for beggars.  Even Cooper wasn't here today.  It was Frankie's day off so he spent the day with his Mom!  My first day completely alone in I don't know how long!

I have 8 beautiful pints of corn waiting to be labeled and put away!  I haven't canned corn before because I really prefer frozen corn but this is cold-packed and I'm pretty sure it will be good.  If it isn't up to my liking, I won't do it the next time.

PATRICIA, you sure do have a lot of rivers and streams around you!  No wonder there was so much flooding to deal with over the years!  I'm sure learning a lot about Alaska from you!

I went for a walk tonight by myself and a couple people on my route wanted to know where my doggie was.  They were very nice when I told them she was gone.  They even said they would miss seeing us walking together!

I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon because Cooper will be arriving at 7 a.m. tomorrow!  He'll keep me busy!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Overcast this morning but temp is 63° so no complaints! Busy day ,first going into town to pick up a few things then out to a farm to pick up the cucumbers and what ever else that catches my eye.
Kyle is putting the finishing touches on the trug today and it can be picked up either later today or on the weekend. I did get pastry done yesterday and will get a couple of pies made up. Tarts can wait for now, till I get  the pickles done.

Lloyd, sounds as though you are going to get everything in order to be able to do your wood working.

Gloria, hope all is well there. Are the leaves starting to turn there?

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I'm up and attem today.  I had my shower and I'm dressed and ready to meet the day.  Cooper will be here around 7 so today I have someone to walk with me!  It's cloudy here, too, AMY and about 70º and not supposed to exceed 82 today.  I don't remember Fall ever starting in August around here so I'm guessing we might be in for a hot Indian Summer.

My plan for today is a quick trip to WM to get my hair cut and pick up a couple items.  Then home to do some more around here.  I took all the doggie treats that Mickie liked and Cooper wouldn't touch to my neighbor across the street.  They have a Collie and I'm sure she'll enjoy them.

Now I'm going to watch for Cooper.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jane, the doggie across the street will love the new treats! I am so tempted to open the cole slaw but just a few more days then it will be. In the fall cabbages are a bit cheaper and that would be the time to do them down. Enjoy your day with Cooper.

OK I quit. 3 times this morning I had a pos t ready to go on my notepad and suddenly i t all got eaten by that nasty gremlin. Just the same ole  things except we "might" get hit by hurricane Henri. Depends if it turns left or right when it gets to his area of the coast.
No sunshine again  today, just gloomy again.
Will have to find another way to type my ramblings on in the mornings. Too many times lately I have lost every thing I typed on notepad.

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy.

Good morning, it's raining steadily, and workers will do my balcony today. I don't know when workers will do the new bedroom and balcony windows and weatherstripping, but I'm sure they'll give us a heads up, especially those with pets. In any case, I'm planning on being out for the day.

Happy Friday to EVERYFRIEND .  I am guilty of not posting as often as I should.  Sometimes I just do not have much new to say🤐. But I sure miss what you all have to say‼️

JANE, I have been thinking about you a lot; knowing how much you must be missing your Mickie💞. I saw you asking how we liked your "new do" but I can not see a picture!  No matter how we like it, the best part is how much better you must feel having it done😘 Bet the doggie across the street will enjoy Mickies treats😘

PATRICIA, sorry to read it is raining on this day your door s to be replaced on the balcony😩😩 Sure hope it can be done without any problems‼️

GLORIA, I know your frustration from having your post disappear😩😡. I hope things improve for you.  Our Boston Family have arrived back home and now we wait to see if that Hurricane is going to cause you or them problems‼️

AMY, ot appears all is well at your house.....lots of canning and rugs built for new owners😘😘

One week from right now,  I should be prepped and ready for my total shoulder replacement surgery.  They changed my 4PM time yesterday to 10:30AM and I was so happy, I cried.  This morning I got a message saying to check in at 10:30.....😩 but still much better than a 4PM‼️

I wish EVERYFRIEND a happy rest of your day.

Jane, your "new do" is as beautiful as you are inside and out!!

Jenny, prayers that all goes well on the 27th. You will be a new woman with your arm...can hug the daylights out of Bob, and all the children..big and small.

Second batch of dills are in the canner with one more to go..
No pies made but maybe tomorrow???

Jane, I can't see your new do & you can't see mine (mine is home done, as usual). I think I've let someone else cut my hair no more than 5 times in my life... except for my sister in the early years. I'm guessing that's why I won't let anyone touch it since big enough to defend myself!  ;D

Just got back from Sam's club so taking a half hour break to eat the pizza & drink the Pepsi that came home with me. Most of it did, I munch all the way home. Still have to make 2 more stops so back to the heat. It is awful, humid & wind blowing, kind of "pass out" type weather.

Jenny, do hope your surgery goes off without a hitch. My daughter has a "procedure" coming up that she has to fast for & her appointment is late afternoon. Not an easy trick with Crohn's Disease (calls for small meals all day, in her case). She was disappointed at how long it was to get an appointment. Maybe it helps to have a doctor in the family??? ;)  Be thinking of you.

Back to that pizza & on to the store & Ace Hardware. I threatened to put iron stakes at the sprinkler heads to keep the mowers from smashing them when they turn the corners... but knew it would end up with ME getting in trouble. I'll settle for those little flags that they love to run over & bend up. Wish they would drive slower!!!
I'd rather take a nap.........

I'm back from shopping, and I did attempt to stay out longer, but they've only ripped off the front of my balcony. The floor is still there. :(

My neighbor says they forgot to unseal her balcony door, and now they have to wait until the rain stops. The new windows, five, will be done in October, as well as new weather stripping.

Farrah was hiding under the bed, and it took some time before she ventured out to peek around from the hallway. She had to have had a great shock when they suddenly appeared on her balcony and opened up with the power tools.

The two guys on the lift equipment used the F word every other word while they talked sports. I have been known to use it when I stub my toe or fall, but nothing like these guys. It's probably a part of their culture, and I noticed the female construction workers are just as bad, so it's their culture.

I'm having some really strange days!  I think I'm getting a lot done and then I look back and I've jumped from one thing to another and I always wonder if I'll ever finish anything again!  I start one thing and I come across a doggie thing that needs attention and I do that and then I have to wonder where I was before.  I feel all discombobulated!

Mickie's ashes came back this afternoon so it's like she's here again and I don't have to remember her in the Vet's office.  I can remember her here.

I think I'll go see if there are any zzzzzs in the haystack.  I'm so tired I'm ready to fall over and Cooper will be here at 7 tomorrow morning. At least i'll have some company.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I have some surprising news tonight..... I opened the garage door while ago to take some out of date milk to pour around my rose bush... somewhere I read it is a great fertilizer so never pour it down the drain. Callie was standing there, ran along with me & watched as I poured the water out of a bowl I keep by the bird feeder "for anything thirsty". She started slurping the milk up like she hadn't had anything to eat in the week+ she has been gone. Invited her on in & she ate a big bowl of the rotisserie chicken I bought the cats at Sam's today. She ate hers, finished up what Tiger didn't eat & I think she would have popped if I offered her more. Tom was not about to share, he had more than he could eat but decided if she was going to be greedy he'd clean out his bowl before she got it. So, not sure what she plans for tomorrow, if she will hang around all night, but the hawks or falcons didn't get her (no scratches, etc). She is outside, Tom is outside and Tiger shares my chair by the computer. My supper is still beeping in the microwave & it is past 10:00 pm. Sweet dreams to all......

Thanks, Rick & Jackie. I'm up again, we have storms racing thru tonight & I am wondering how Callie is doing "out in the rain". She went out after eating enough for a week but when I opened the garage door before going to bed she darted into the garage & straight into the house & waited for more food! They usually have the Friskies canned food as their last meal before I go to bed and she remembered. She cleaned up hers & whatever Tiger left & headed back to the garage. Same story, I opened the big garage door & she went out with a hop & skip. When I gave her "one more chance" to stay in for the night, she had disappeared, so here I am up again at 1:00 am. Tom wants out, Tiger went to the basement for peace & quiet, & I'll be lucky to get 4 hours sleep again! It is raining hard again so Tom is happy to lay at my feet & stay in. Not sure how I lost control of my life~~

Good morning..

I am up and attem thanks to crow/crows. They are now fed and dogs as well. Laundry, putting away the spoils of yesterday all 34 jars of dill pickles. Better find time to bake those pies also!

Managed to come home yesterday with a  metal shelving unit, they were on sale and highly recommended by a friend. Will see how this one works and may  head back for  another. Trying to get everything organized cause disorganization aka mess in doing so, but I am sure it will all come together.

Shirley, glad your Miss Callie came home ,nice to know she is ok.

Jane, Golden Girls ashes are here, nice to have them home again. Canner sure got a work out yesterday filled it three times  then 4 more jars. Now to label and put away. Word here is that there is a bumper crop of potatoes, some are even plowing them under.I think that is a waste as food banks could use them but people too lazy to pick them up.

Patricia, they didn't go to school far enough to learn the proper words to put in the sentence. You shouldn't have to put up with language like that.

Best get started for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

OH SHIRLEY! I'm crying at your good news!  I didn't want to think of some bird taking Callie off to who knows where hand having a meal!  I'm so glad to hear that she knows where she's loved!

And Good Morning to Everyfriend who appears in the SS today.  I'm awaiting Cooper's arrival around 7 and a good day today.  It's supposed to rain again overnight and tomorrow but today is going to be cloudy.

I might take a quick trip to the Farmers Market today.  I haven't made it to this one yet this summer and I used to go every week either Wednesday or Saturday.  And Cathy is going out of town so she won't be stopping on her way to or from WM.  She's doing that tomorrow!

I hope Everyfriend has a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. Just love the wea ther forecasters. Watch  a sudden repor t on Henri and it will hit right over this part of the state. An hour lat er we will be on the right and more windy side, then the next one  we will be on the left side with more rain. It is a catergory 1 storm and then it is a tropical storm-then it is expected to  stronger and be a catergory 2 storm, maybe go up to a 3 before hitting land. Of course the different local chanels have different reports, too. Best thing is to look outside and see what it looks like.

JANE  must be a week for haircuts, my daughter just got one and I am ready to call my DIL and ask her if she can cut mine, getting too long again.

JENNY  latest I heard about Henri is that  it will be going over Long Island and on to the Conn. shore and  that means not as close to us here or Boston either. When I had my right shoulder done I had to be in the hospital by 10 and they started sedation as fast as they could and my surgery was in the afternoon. Did you have to get the special soap to wash the shoulder with? I did and it left the skin with a greenish color-all steril.

SHIRLEY  seens lately I am always ready for a nap. Glad Callie showed up so you can stop worrying about her.

AMY  just think how long that canning yesterday would take without the pressure canner. Wish I had one when I did a lot of canning, used the waterbath back in those days.

Right now  the sun is shining and wonder how long that  will last.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Amy, Jane, Gloria, thanks for the Welcome Home for Callie, I am glad the hawks/falcons didn't get her but am wondering why she refuses to go into the pool area or back yard... at all!  Wonder if she was scared by that hawk sitting on the fence the day or so before she disappeared. I would have suspected that it might have picked her up & dropped miles away but no marks of claws on her. Cannot imagine where she has been as happy (and hungry) she is to be back.

I know people have tried to put mini cameras attached to cats (& other wildlife), but my curiosity will not be satisfied by putting this old girl in danger of being tangled in wires. She has been in to eat twice already this morning & each time refuses to go out to the pool like she always did. She is busy cleaning her fur out front, I can see her from my kitchen sink window.  I am trying to figure a new way to try to keep my garage floor cleaner since she avoids using the litter boxes. Andy suggested I put a training pad in the litter box to see if she just doesn't like the feel of the litter.  I'll give it a try.

Gloria, & all those living near the East Coast, watching Henri threats & is sounding fierce. Stay dry!!!

Patricia, sorry about the language. Would you dare to tell them that those words are offensive to some people?  Is English their first language?  When we lived in England a fellow GI was taught bad words by his friends in the squad. He had no idea what the words (he was from Lithuania) meant, so blurted out in front of anyone. He had joined the Air Force to become an American citizen and was happy to be part of the group, good natured. I only met him & his wife a time or two.  Cas had contacted him not long before he died (thanks to the computer) so I did send them an e-mail from Cas' address book on his computer, when he died. They were retired from the service & living in WA or OR.  Year or so later she had their son help e-mail me to let me know he had also died.  I am sure he eventually learned about those words, probably glad to have someone explain. She was from England and even with children in this country, sounded so abandoned. My mind wanders....

We had a little over an inch of rain last night & today will be the coolest for a week so got some "outside" dutys to take care of.  Need to open the motorhome & put out the slide & awning to get ready for a trip to MO. I like to dry things out after a hard blowing rain. Probably don't need to but a good excuse to play with the toys.

Lloyd, if you are heading west I expect you will take the nothern route out I-70, but if you happen to go out 50 thru Wichita, there is a Walmart on the west side of the city, where I met Bobbie when she & January came thru. I always buy a new Rand Atlas IN Walmart so it has all the Walmart stores marked. I am not at all bashful about stopping for a nap when tired, they prefer you stay on the outskirts of the parking lots at night, but daytime I park near the door so not as far to walk & shop. I also met another couple driving thru that was staying in a motel along the highway (WEST). I don't drive at night & it can be as much as 30 miles across town if you stop on the east side. Doubt if you will be taking the southern route so wishing you & Nancy "happy & safe trails"!

Next job is clean & vac the pool. I wonder how much damage to that pool going in next door. The "cement pond" (Beverly Hillbillies?) doesn't have the cement in the hole yet, I don't think!  What a mess~~

Have a great day, I'm already planning the noon meal for 3 cats!!!

I read in the paper this morning that a tornado touched down in the next county over from where I live.  Seems it was a "kind" one and didn't take out the houses.  It went between 3 farm houses and took out several trees but it only took the roof off one house.  And the picture looks repairable.  I hope it is.  And I'm glad it wasn't closer!

AMY, I made those radishes in the A/F today and I ate the whole batch for my lunch!  I have enough radishes for another batch and I'm going to make them on Monday....maybe!

Back to work....

Good morning from another soggy Interior, although temperatures are slowly rising for September's arrival.  Farrah stayed hidden yesterday even when I returned from shopping. Today, with all the noise to the right of us, she's staying by my side, away from the windows or following me from room to room. I have a feeling that if they show up on the balcony for the finishing work, she'll be back under the bed. All humans are on their own in that regard, I believe!

She is very fastidious about her litterbox. She digs and rearranges so much until it's to her liking that I keep a cover on it. And it sits in the center of two crossed yoga mats to catch any litter residue. Every night before bed, I clean the box and take the garbage out. She doesn't like a dirty box, and I wouldn't like her looking for an alternative.  :buck2:

I don't believe the guys and gals even paid attention to the inside of the various balconies they worked on: too much to do and too little time to do it in. And I expect that is the same wherever military or construction sites operate. In a social setting, I'm sure they watch what they say.

I know they still have to put up a type of metal crossties on the fronts and do some finishing work so that they will be back probably next week, if not later today. Right now, they're working on the balconies to the right of me.

Shirley, I am so glad that Callie found her way back! I've had a wandering eye, too, with all the cams and the worldwide real estate lists I've watched. I used to love looking at the high-rise apartments but now not so much after Florida.

We had this past week, nine covid deaths in my city, and then I read that some guy in the states whose wife recently died of Covid joined an anti-vax rally. Now I'm wondering if they should take another look at his wife's death.

I'm not fond of dills either, but I occasionally love a big garlic dill with a good cheese or a roast beef sandwich. Most commercial dills have no taste. Yesterday I had some pepper jack cheese and a hunk of a garlic-herb-Italian loaf from a friend, so while I was probably aromatic, I felt wonderful. To me, that was a good dinner.

Jane, glad you like that recipe!!

Laundry is done, just the dogs bedding on the line that can come in. Finally made an apple pie, two dozen butter tarts and a cinnamon roll. Too hot to do outside work so another day for that, although I did manage to coral the dust bunnies. I am so surprised that these dogs are not running around naked with all the hair they have lost!

I managed to find a pressure canner for the neighbour, Home hardware had one on the shelf and she asked if I would pick it up. She wants to can potatoes also, along with soups and baked beans.

Tonight consists of putting feet up and doing zip, zilch, nada. Hmm maybe a walk to the freezer for an ice cream bar is about all I will do . :)

Good morning...

Starting off cool but we are back into frying weather here..
Since I did get most of what needed to be done yesterday, today is a rest day.

First meeting up with friends in town for a bit then over to the work that is being done on another friend lot. They didn't build this year due to the high costs of lumber and hope next year will be their year to build their home.

Lloyd, prayers for your family to get through this. WEAR your masks, wash your hands often and stay apart from people. The new variant is hitting even though with the covid shots.

Jane, you have a busy day ahead of you. Hope you can find time to put your feet up!

Better shake a leg and get ready for town.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning every one. Well the rain has started, not windy. Wole too late t o get the news on the tube but we are to be on the windy side and not all the rain side. I hope this building can take all the wind, well built but has never been through a hurricane. From what I saw on the weather thing on this PC we are in for rain till sometime Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. If this is not the rainy side of Henri I hate to think what those to the west of us are in for, lot of flooding is areas I imagine.

SHIRLEY  one thing is all my family members live on high ground above any streams near by.

PATRICIA  in the cities the senior housing is all high rises and I would not be able to live feeling OK in one of them. I would rather be on the ground floor but being on the top third floor here at least I have no noisy one above me.

LLOYD  prayers for the family mambers fighting that covid. You and Nancy stay safe.

SHIRLEY  looks like you did manage to capture 1 dragon fly. I have seen thunders torms forming like tha t cloud.

Good morning from another rainy Interior, such is August and expected if not welcomed. Farrah is happy not to hide from all the loud noises and heavy machinery rising past her window. You should have seen her reaction when a large orange machine extended its metal arm, swiveled, and placed the balcony flooring on the apartment to the right of me before slowly swiveling back and sinking out of sight. I imagine early humans looked the same at their first dinosaur! :o

Gloria, this disabled senior building is only five stories but has 189 apartments and studios and takes up the entire block. I live on the fourth floor, and the one below me used to play Elvis starting in the wee hours. He knows better now as his neighbors weren't that accommodating at two AM.  We're part of a seven-building series spread throughout the city, housing everything from seniors to children. In  October, weather permitting, they plan to replace each apartments' five windows and weatherstripping.

Amy, your days of rest rival my busy ones!

Patricia,  I did do sort of less than I had planned. We didn't go to see our friends lot but did meet up with are other friends earlier. Weather is way to hoot to go walking about . We got a whisper of a rain..hardly enough to wet the whistle on  a no see'um. Glad I picked  beans earlier!

Here, we're enjoying a break in the rain due back tomorrow. I should step away from the computer and find something to do. Does earlier cleaning the kitchen count?

It started raining here around 10 a.m. and has continued ever since.  We didn't go walking this afternoon.  And now Cooper has gone home for the night and the house is lonely!  We're supposed to have rain most of the rest of the day and into the night.  The only good thing about that is, I don't have to water the plants.  The bad thing is, my window is leaking.  I have to find someone to have a look at it and see if it can be fixed.  I've made two phone calls and no one called me back.

I think I better see if there's anything constructive I can still get done today.  I'm not doing all that much.  Hope everyone's day is going well!

Jane, we have to water..not enough rain here. They are calling for a storm but so far nothing has happened (I am fine with that!)  Ran some pie and tarts over to the neighbour and a beggin strip for the pooch. Put some in the hidey hole to try..

I can't help but wonder Amy. Did you put some of the pies and tarts or the begging strip for us in the hidey-hole?

Patricia, sorry..once Rex gets a sniff of the beggin strip there are  no extras. You will just have to be content with the  butter tarts or apple pie. :2funny:

I'm going to have to try a butter tart.  I don't think I've ever had one of those.  Or maybe we call it something else down here in the lower "50"!  Patricia can have the Beggin Strips.  Although they do smell pretty good and the doggies love them!

We got more than enough rain and I got more than enough inside my bedroom window.  I have towels in the spaces and they were both wet.  Now I have them hanging to dry and different ones in the windows.

Now I'm off to the haystack!  I hope it's loaded with zzzzs because I'm kinda tired tonight.  Frankie is off tomorrow from her job but I'm still going to get Cooper because she took a house cleaning job to get a little extra income.  She sure isn't afraid to work!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Stopped by to say "Good night", been a long day & I'm too tired to talk. Been thinking about all of you "back East", including the flooding in TN. Hear a lot of power outs so wishing everyone a not too hot without AC. We have a nasty week of HOT ahead.

Jane, why is the window leaking? I've "re-puttied" (and I do not think that's the right term) our windows before. Me & the ACE Hardware guys have an understanding.... they always know what to sell me if I can 'splain things to them, then tell me how to do it. But, you & I are about the same age so know what an effort it is to fix anything now. I was proud of me getting the tub caulked this week... but one spot didn't get enough & I didn't follow the bead on down the side, just was not thinking & getting tired. Will work on that this week.  ;)  Good luck "with the rain coming in" (song in there).

Night, Lloyd. I've had a nagging headache this week from all the fall allergies. Hard to breathe today between humidity & pollen. Don't envy you the trip to the dentist.

Good morning..

Beautiful silvery moon out there this morning. No storm nor rain last night. Busy day ahead so need to get ready for it.

My friend would like more jars so when we get a chance to go into town I will pick some up for her.

Jane, butter tarts are so good! Some folks like them runny others don't. I would say something similar to pecan tarts. Will send you the recipe.

Lloyd, good luck at the dentist..not my favourite place to be but a necessity.

Shirley, Dad taught me how to putty windows....do you think that was the start of silly putty?

Gloria, hope you are safe from Henri..

Patricia, you tickling cloud tummies today?

Better get my duds on don't wish to be caught in pj's.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  AMY, I did look up butter tarts and they are a Canadian goodie that sounds really good1  I'll watch for the recipe!

SHIRLEY, I'm sure that what the window needs is "putty" or whatever it is that keeps the rain out but it's on the higher side of my house and the top of the window so I'd need to have a ladder (I don't have one that tall) and I'd have to climb (I don't climb ladders any more) so I have to depend on someone to do it for me.  So I wait for the call backs!

LLOYD, good luck with your dentist today.  I don't think anyone likes going to the dentist!

We had rain all night but it must not have hit that side of the house.  My towels are dry!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

"Dad taught me how to putty windows....do you think that was the start of silly putty?" That is really a good one, Amy!!!

I hope you have better luck with getting these odd ball jobs done that I do, Jane!  Some things we can't (or I am NOT willing) to take on, right now I'm waiting for a call back from the pool guy. I know he rips me off but right now neither son able to help.  :'(  Finally got thru to the mower man, they are splitting yards so the one I've been calling for a couple years isn't doing mine. When the other one called last week we both assumed I could get his number off caller ID...BUT I had so many robo calls right after, I couldn't find it. I did write it down but have a bad habit of making notes on anything laying on the table in whatever room I'm in. That's a problem when I don't write down the name & throw all those scraps of paper away!!!

I am beyond frustration this morning, fed 3 cats early (got up at 5:00am) knew better than to fill MY tummy or I'd want to go back to bed (less than 4 hours sleep). Already had one robo before 8:00am from that same "cardio-service" that calls 3 times a day. Too bad you can't blow up thru the lines.... I've blocked all of them but will have to dump my blocked numbers soon before I'm over the limit. Anyway, I am weary & waiting for a return call. Mower will be here before noon so will unlock gates & do what's needed (move down spout extenders, etc) In the meantime.......

BY THE WAY.... FYI.... I looked around for robins & don't see any of the locals. We get waves of them passing thru going south, you'd be surprised how many slight variations of color they have. Maybe an early fall.... please?  Watched a couple flocks of Canada geese trying to teach their kids how to form a V for the trip south, some stay all winter but not all. I still saw some of the white egrets on the river this week but none this morning. We are to be in or near the 100s this week & already this morning it's hard to breathe.

EDIT: I almost left the computer without posting, heading back outside before it gets any hotter. Pretty sure that's where a lot of MY posts go when missing.  :uglystupid2:  :crazy2:

Good morning, Cloudy with rain expected back this morning. Amy, I could probably punch right through those clouds!

The construction folks are back for finishing touches, and then that's it until window replacements in October. I wouldn't say I like these new balconies. The only view is the top tips of the foothills and sky unless you get up nose to door pane, and even then, you can't see the street below but across it.

The front of the new balcony is at least a foot or higher than the old one, so to see the street below, you must walk out on it. Not much going on today after a restless night except being grumpy, so I'd best get to it.

I hope everyone's day is or will be going better than mine!

Cooper and I took 3 walks today and the only one that I forgot to take a baggy along was the one where he produced!  Thank goodness, I had a load of tissues in my pocket and I managed to clean up after him.

I'm sure all of you were very interested in that first paragraph.  I sure do lead an interesting life!

I took the curtains in my bedroom down, washed them, ironed them, and got half of them back up.  The valances are on strange rods and it always takes me a couple of tries before I get them back up right.  This time I broke one of the holders so I'll have to see if I can get another one before the valances go back up.  It's always something, isn't it?

I'm going to say goodnight because I won't be back in before I hit the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

P.S. I didn't have to water the plants tonight.  We got more rain!

Good morning everyone, still raining lightly even this morning. This storm hit south county pretty bad, lot of trees down-some landed on roofs and one right into the roof. Flooding in the usual places but all in my family here OK. Only a few inches of rain but the ground is so saturated with so much rain this summer that they showed a few trees on the news  that were uprooted and pulled up a big chunck of earth with them leaving a hole in the ground.

PATRICIA  maybe the new balconies are safer with the higher rail and you do have a balcony. None here-would spoil the beauty of this building.

JANE  that's what you get for washing curtains at this time of year. Not spring or fall cleaning time. ;)

Goodness where was every one yesterday? Only 2 posts and one was a ride to a photo. May be I am up too early?

Have a good day and hope those will too much rain get  some sunshine today. I sure would love to see blue sky and sunshine.
Stay safe and dry or cool where ever you live.

Hope this heat wave soon breaks and cooler weather comes in.I feel sorry for anyone having to work out in it.

Have a long list of "to do's" when we get back home, hope my energy doesn't fly out the window!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm off to a dr. appt. this morning.  I'm afraid my BP is going to be up but there's a reason for that!

One of those "off" days. Callie didn't show up for breakfast & nearly 1:00pm and still not here. I don't know what to think since she stuck like glue & ate every few hours since she came home. She & I visited with a neighbor last night, out on the driveway. She didn't stand right beside me as this is the neighbor with the German Shepherd she gave the bloody nose one time. After they left she joined me & talked as long as I stayed out. I invited her inside & gave her another dish of food. She wanted back in the garage & back outside, acted like she wanted me to come out but it was MY bedtime! I've been out & walked around the driveway, inspecting flowers & waiting to see if she was laying around somewhere. Tom stayed out last night, not sure if he goes out front "after midnight", but he never does in the daytime. Tiger stayed inside with me (so not a lot of sleep for me). The cats are family but sure not predictable, wonder if she will be back.

We have heat warning all week, wind blowing like crazy, super hot & humidity high. YUCK!

Farrah surprised me yet again this afternoon. In the past, 2016-2018, she used to run and hide under the bed when she heard the loud reverberating fire alarm go off or a loud siren.

2019 to now, she watches me, and if I don't get upset, neither does she. And yes, the vet said her hearing is fine. She believes I'll let her know in plenty of time to run away and hide.

Last week the loud construction noises and the heavy machinery and lifts going in and out of our fourth-floor view sent her back under the bed for the day. Today, two guys on a lift, rose past her on her cat tree, and up, before attaching a net from the roof draped over the apartments; and she only moved from the cat tree to my side. She'll be nine early next month, and I guess with age comes wisdom.

And no, I don't know what the giant net draped over the building is for.

I'm reading some items that were considered correct in the late fifties, early sixties. Here is only one that's crazier than taking up smoking would ease a pregnancy, "Babies should adjust to the normal eating habits of the family as soon as possible

By the time a baby was nine weeks old, they should be eating the same foods as the rest of the family. Even more shocking was that this was somehow linked to preventing the child from growing up to be a communist."

"Single women should pick up a man at an AA meeting
In the 60s, it wasn't easy to find a good (rich) man, and single women were encouraged to attend AA meetings to meet their future husband. Apparently preying on a man during a time of struggle was the perfect way to get him to marry you."

It's going to be up int the 90s again tomorrow but that's not the worst of it.  The humidity is predicted to be at 81%!  I don't like the high humidity!

Today wasn't too bad and we got another short rainfall...lasted about 15 minutes.  I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.  The guy is supposed to be cutting my grass tomorrow or Thursday.

I just can't seem to get myself organized since Mickie's gone.  When Annie was gone, I still had Mickie and when I lost other doggies through the years, I always had plans to get another one.  I won't be getting another one now.  It wouldn't be fair to the doggie because of my age.  There's a place near here that has doggies looking for homes and they ask for temporary homes for them while they look.  I'm thinking that might be something I could do. When Cooper goes home, I just feel alone!

I'm thinking I better hit the hay and try to get an early start tomorrow.  Maybe I can accomplish something.  I'm sure as heck not getting down to business these days!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Well, Patricia, not sure where that person came from, but those weren't the rules we lived by in the mid-west or England during those years. My daughter was born in Jan of '56. Besides that, I wanted nothing to do with anyone needing AA before I got married. In fact, I wouldn't get in the car with anyone drinking, we had too many kids die in drunk driving wrecks. Guess it depended on where you lived.

Interesting how Farrah has mellowed out. Wish Tom would adjust to riding in the motorhome & I didn't have to clean up messes before leaving the driveway!!!  Hey, BIG NEWS HERE... Callie showed up to eat about half an hour ago.  I've checked all day, called & whistled, but she never came to eat so I figured the week long starvation got to her & she probably just died in her sleep somewhere. Not going to try to outguess her from now on, they are free to come & go so I will do what I can for them when they are here. I was concerned when I saw the 2 pairs of falcons floating around over our yards earlier tonight. I can't grab a camera fast enough to get a photo to identify them. Callie lays under the motorhome or in the tigerlilies or behind the big dumpster, so she must be afraid of them now. She sure ate plenty tonight & headed right back out front. Something put a fear in her about being in the back or pool area. The fox & coyote can't get inside the pool area so had to have been the hawk or falcons.

Gloria, glad your family is high & dry with all this rain. Haven't talked to my brother-in-law that lives in eastern TN but know his house is about mid-way UP or down a hill so should be safe. Have a good friend that lives in Anderson, SC that has a beautiful house that backs up to a big lake so hope she is safe. She lives alone & doesn't drive anymore & her only son lives "clear across the US" from her, but she seems to have good friends that help her out. Awful news all over.

Jane, hope your Dr. appointment went okay. My BP is normally high but does go up with those appointments. Lots of time, especially if I am rushing, I'll take a 325 Bayer to take the edge off & numbers will be more tolerable.

Amy, hope the glasses are a good fit. I got progressive for the first time, shocking price... & the optometrist added anti-fog saying, "it's free now but will charge later".... only it fogged worse than any other & couldn't clean with just anything so when I was ordering the sunglasses I told him that anti-fog had to go. They had to remake the glasses so I asked if they would make them to fit some frames I had and they could have the ones I paid them about $250 for & wore less than a month. Mine had spring nose & ear pieces & the new ones after surgery  did not. That first pair of glasses cost me just under $800(my cost) and not sure what Medicare paid "for the first pair after cataract surgery".... on top of that check I wrote!  The 2nd pair (tinted) was over $500 using my other frames with the spring noses & ear pieces. I keep getting the statements from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of how much they paid after Medicare paid.... and was tempted to call them to ask if maybe I got double billed in all this. I thought I was paying full price up front for glasses.

You snuck in, Jane. I've also considered fostering dogs but know me well enough that I would not want to part with after caring for. I'd be more tempted to just adopt one that I fell in love with from the Animal Shelter. At this stage I still plan to get a pup and know it would have a good home with one of my sons if something happened to me. I can't have one as long as the cats are alive. I do think most of the places that foster have the option of keeping the dog (or cat) if it is a good fit. Some of us just don't feel whole without a dog (or cat) to talk to.

Sweet dreams to all, I'm going to eat a bite & head to bed. Got a whole list of to-dos for tomorrow.  God Bless and peaceful dreams to all. Love ya. Shirley

Shirley, that was for the forty-eight states, not including Alaska or Hawaii. Here is the link,  https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/mind-blowingly-bizarre-things-people-actually-believed-50-years-ago/ss-AANGUSE?ocid=msedgntp#image=22

Jane, I started out fostering for Pet Pride, but nineteen years ago, I went to permanent fostering. I take in cats that don't get along with other cats, dogs, or children and care for them for the remainder of their life. I pay for food and basic health care, and Pet Pride pays for the vet, dental, and emergencies.

That might be something for you to look into. The majority of animal rescues do both types of fostering, and you wouldn't have to worry about a later home for them.

Good morning.

Yesterday went well, a quick trip with just one stop on the way home at the cheese factory. Picked up a new to me cheese, garlic and pepper. Will be buying that one again as it is delicious!!
Today is heading into town for dog food, milk and to the hardware store. Then home to catch up on work left undone.

Shirley, glasses are an awful price! Next time we will go to Costco where you can get two pairs for less than I paid for one pair! Glad to read the roamer is back home if even only for a short time, at least you know she is ok.

Jane, fostering would not only help you but the dog. He/she won't have to spend time in a cage until he is adopted.

Patricia, pets soon adapt to our ways and it has taken Farrah a long time to feel safe with you. This is a new experience with you having the workers about, not only strange people but sounds too. She has adapted well to all of this.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone. No rain in the forecast today BUT a "maybe" violent thunderstorm. We are also in the middle of a heat wave with very high humidity. Mother Nature is sure angry with us this year,  don't think I did anything to anger her. Thank God I have this window AC to keep me comfortable in here.

AMY  this town made out without any real damage from Henri but now we have  these 90+ temperatures and this is something I cannot take. I tend  to hybernate and stay close to the AC. When Yvette gets here she has to walk on the pavement from the far end of the parking lot to the entry with the sun beating down on her. She is overweight and when she comes in my place she is sweating. Oops excuse me, ladies perspire, we do not sweat.

JANE  hope you did noy have high BP yesterday with the doctor visit. I have a SIL that has the white coat syndrome woth her bp shooting up.

SHIRLEY  we don't have even a breeze when it gets this hot and humid here. At least a breeze to dry the skin a little when outside. Today is the day the landscapers are here every week.

PATRICIA  some of those old "laws" states still have in the books are really crazy. Just think od feeding a 9 week old baby some of the spicy food adults eat? Would give them tummy troubles for life.

SHIRLEY  I wish I could have bough t the frames I really liked when I go these new glasses, frame alone was $500.- A case of champagne taste and beer wallet?

Gonna go get  my shower now and hopefully I will cool off soon. I ha te this icky feeling of my skin when it is  this humid. Have to put  the AC on already. I always shut it  off for a rest in the mornings when I get up.

Have a good day and keep cool if you can.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's not raining here this morning!  And that's news!  It's a little hazy out there but that's pretty normal for this time of year.

I have no plans for today.  Frankie is coming over later and I'm not sure what's happening with her.  She doesn't work today.  I'm thinking of a trip to the Farmer's market this morning.  And I found a bag of summer squash on my porch yesterday.  My neighbors have been very generous!

I guess I better get busy or it will be another day like yesterday....nothing to show for it!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from another rainy day in the Interior. It started on the ninth of August and will end on the thirtieth. We still have the plastic over the outside of our balconies, and I'm waiting to see if they come today and why we are shrouded in plastic. At least the administration has finally turned on the heat. I may not need my portable heater today.

Another day of rainbows and lollpops...

A viral post circulating online is making the far-reaching claim that six infectious diseases that have been eradicated are now spreading again and that "illegal immigrants" and "refugees" are the reason they are making a comeback.

"Amy Rowland, the spokesperson for the CDC's Global Health Division, also told PolitiFact immigrants and refugees are not to blame for the outbreaks.

"No, it is not immigrants or refugees causing these outbreaks," Rowland said. "It has to do with travel and people who are not vaccinated or under-vaccinated. It has nothing to do with illegal immigrants."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2019/jun/10/facebook-posts/no-illegal-immigrants-and-refugees-are-not-causing/

"Safer to be unvaccinated against COVID-19? In several ways, that's False
IF YOUR TIME IS SHORT
The chances of contracting COVID-19 and dying from it are much greater for unvaccinated people.

There is no evidence that the COVID-19 vaccines have caused deaths."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/04/viral-image/covid-19-its-safer-be-unvaccinated-several-ways-s-/

"Fauci just told us that they found a variant that evades the test."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/04/facebook-posts/fauci-did-not-say-there-was-covid-19-variant-can-e/

"Deaths among unvaccinated people: On July 16, even as the delta variant of the virus began spreading, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that over 97% of new hospitalizations were in patients who are unvaccinated.

Breakthrough cases: The CDC's latest data on breakthrough cases — people who become infected with COVID-19 after being vaccinated — says that as of July 26, of the more than 163 million people who had been fully vaccinated, 6,587 were hospitalized or died in the 49 states and territories that report their data to the CDC. Of the 1,263 deaths, 309 were reported as asymptomatic or not related to COVID-19. "

The nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation drilled down to infection rates, finding that among 25 states that report breakthrough cases publicly, the infection rate is well below 1%, ranging from 0.01% in Connecticut to 0.29% in Alaska. The CDC has found evidence suggesting that, although it's rare for vaccinated people to become infected, those who do can spread the virus as readily as unvaccinated people who get infected.

Been a long day here...managed to put a 6 shelf unit together and it wasn't without some words. :tickedoff: Tasted the cole slaw that Jane shared the recipe and it is a keeper!! I think Kyle would have licked the bowl if I hadn't been at the table.....my goodness it is soo good. I will be making more of that!
Gloria, send the cole slaw recipe to your daughter in law...
I thought we didn't sweat but got dewy.. :2funny:

Okay, curiosity got the best of me..... what/where is the coleslaw recipe??? When I put the plea out some years ago, maybe 10-15, I got the same recipe from people in 4 different states, so that's what I named it on my card (4-state coleslaw). BUT, it isn't canned, just shred the cabbage & it's done the same day and absolutely delicious. I'd just like to see what the difference is.  My mouth is watering so guess I'll be making a batch soon.  The neighbor that used to beg for it is dead, he didn't just "hint" but "when are you going to make coleslaw for us?"

Tom is hiding out but Callie has stuck like glue. I gave up and have one of the garage doors open enough for her to come & go..... but I'm afraid she'll invite her friends. Totally not like him to be out all day, but I've decided they either are okay or they aren't. If they show up I will feed and if not........... Tom ate breakfast with the others this morning & went out...

Youngest son usually comes by after work on Wed, he used to eat with me but has a work out routine so quit eating. Then ole Mom started sending food home for him/them to snack on after he works out. They both eat their main meals at noon, work on opposite sides of towns so only when they go out to eat, do they eat together. He says they snack on fruit/cheese & whatever in the evening. She just ran the Pike's Peak marathon so must be in good shape. That is one they have to qualify for. He and other spouses/partners visit usually at the top. Now they have the mountain bikes to enjoy the rest of the time. They book their room a year ahead. Anyway, he is my "neat" kid, always was, so I do a lot of touch up & cleaning litter boxes before he comes.

Better get busy. I am SO anxious for fall/winter. I whine every summer but this has been the worst for a long time. I'm sure a lot has to do with me not going to CO camping. :'(

Hello All y'all!  I went to the Farmer's Market today.  Around here, if you grew up in this area, you call it the THE AUCTION!  I think, even before my time it really WAS a Farmer's Auction.  And it is still mostly local farmer's doing what they do best...growing food and then selling what they don't need.  There are a LOT of Amish who have stands there.  It's a big building that has tables and stands inside and then outside in the front and down one of the sides are stands that have solid tables and tent tops.  I love it in the summer because everything is fresh and local.

Today, I bought red potatoes for canning and they were great!  I bought them from the farmer who actually grew them and he was proud of his work.  I came home and got them ready and canned 7 quarts of them and I have enough left to do 8 more pints.  Frankie and I love them done in the A/F and because they are partially cooked already, they don't take much time.

But all this wore me out and I'm ready for the haystack!  I sure hope it's loaded with zzzzs.

SHIRLEY, when I first saw this cole slaw recipe, I almost didn't even look at it because one of the things you can't can is mayonnaise.  But you don't put the mayonnaise in this one.  You just get everything else ready and add the the mayo when you're ready to eat it.  It's so good and so easy when you're hungry for cole slaw.

I'm off to the stack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..
Heavy clouds and I hope there is rain to fall or I will be out watering the garden.

Working in the basement ,straightening all the preserves and canned goods. Wonder how long it will be till the gremlins mess it up again?

Jane, that sounds like a fun and interesting market to see. I was told that this year is the best year for potatoes and corn. I will find that out when I dig into the potato hills here.

Better get at it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend...and especially you, AMY!  Cooper is here already.  I fed him and as soon as I finish here, we're going for a walk.

AMY, at THE AUCTION you can buy any amount of anything you want from a half pint (or even just one item) all the way to a bushel!  I have a hard time holding back!

I'm going to finish the potatoes today and I have almost enough tomatoes to make sauce for recipes and I'm really getting low on that.  Maybe I'll wait until after Christy's visit this weekend.  She's bringing "maters" for me!  Well, it looks like I'm doing "maters" and "taters" this week!

I better get on my horse and get Cooper's walk in before the guy comes to check out my window that's leaking.  I sure hope all it needs is a guy on a ladder with some caulk!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  AMY I hope you get some rain and you don't have to drag out the hose!

Good morning every one, day 3 of this current heat wave, already 70 and not 7 am yet. Another day of bad air, too. A day to stay inside for me. I don't always go out for a short walk but like to get out and sit on the porch for awhile most days. Some days it is a social time and at others it is just me and a book but at least I get out of my apartment for awhile.

JANE  well had something to see here about yesterday, made some blueberry muffins. Had blueberries I had to use before they went bad faster than I could eat them. They are yummy and I had her take half of them home with her.

PATRICIA  heat will get turned on here the beginning of October no matter how cold it might get.  The former maintenance man would argue with the witch telling her that the elderly get cold easy and need the heat. She hat a heater in her  office and could care less. Firs tof April it gets turned off. When she was not here he would turn  it on, she never works a full week or a full day. He lived on the premises and the new man has a house and wife and  4 kids so cannot live in the apartment that goes with the job. Wonder how that will work when snow starts falling. Paul would be outside in the middle of the night with a small plow cleaning the walks and the entrance incase anyone called for the emergency ambulance.

AMY  I know my daughter and DIL both like coleslaw, DIL and son are new  to canning but really have been doing a lot of it this year.

SHIRLEY  this has been a ve ry hot and humid summer here. Like you I look forward to October to get here when it will surely be cooler.

JANE  that recipe would not be for me with the onions in it. Raw onions and me don't get along. I have tried since I was a kid to eat them but always ended in the bathroom.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Good morning, another rainy day here. We have 4-5 days remaining of these dreary days. The construction guys are to finish up this side. The rain has created delays as they were to have finished on the twenty-third. Then it is new windows in October with somewhere in there, a whole apartment inspections by staff and maintenance from Juneau. I will be glad when this is done.

Gloria, the heat is on but just barely. They have the same October to April heat schedule here, but with the full Covid lockdown into its seventeenth month and only essential services open, people need a few things to look forward to, and no winter isn't one of them.

Amy, a neighbor we had growing up, Mrs. Hubner, had their basement staircase's inset walls made into shelves for her canned goods. My mother was jealous as she had to go all the way downstairs and into the second room for her canned goods. My folks had the basement tiled and wood paneling added in the late sixties but never remodeled further. That was when my older sister and I left home, and my younger sister was a preteen and into sports.

Good Thursday afternoon from hot and humid central Oklahoma.

Shirley, She just ran the Pike's Peak marathon so must be in good shape. That is one they have to qualify for
Hubby ran up Pike's Peak in the 1970's while we still lived in Leadville. Wasn't a marathon but may have been a shorter race connected with it. He just had to register - not qualify.  He ran up Barr's Trail to the top but chose to ride back down.  He carried his "participation" coin in his pocket until he died in 1993.

#2 son and I resumed our bi-weekly "dinner dates" last evening.  His birthday is tomorrow and he had requested a Mississippi Mud cake.  So I made it yesterday - first time in years I'd made a cake from scratch!  He pronounced it "great" but I told him the next time he makes a request to make sure it starts with a cake mix!  ;D

Patricia, I saw the pix of the balconies on your building. Can you still see over them?  Are they open along the bottom?
My HOA is having all the roofs in the complex completely replaced because of hail damage a couple of years ago. We got a letter from the roofing company listing what we needed to be aware of when it's our turn. Would like to "escape" to a son's house at that time but workmen need to be inside at least twice to check the attic and the solar lights.  It will be late September/early October before they get around to me so maybe I'll be used to the noise by that time.

Cake making process and fixing dinner wore me out so I'm having a "Recliner Radish" day.

That's it from this corner.

Here it is, another week nearly gone, can't believe it!  You girls have gotten me in the mood to sort & clean, been a while since I did that. I'm digging out all the "stuff" that came in when we got back from Colorado a YEAR ago June, for sure all those batteries are in dire need of charging, (like the Magellan GPS & Garmin GPS, the head lamps, etc) Got stuff plugged in everywhere, sure hope the batteries didn't ruin because they drained so completely.  :(

I really did think I would be selling the motorhome after the oxygen problem, then Covid hit & the deaths & funerals that we did get to go to at the start & the short period this spring when we thought we had it licked until the new variety showed up. Anyway, what keeps going thru my mind was June's expression, something about "the behinder I got........" I couldn't be any behinder than right now!  Certainly keeping me entertained inside this day of awful heat. I think I need a nap as soon as I clean up the last of my box of "drumstix" in the freezer. I will not get another box.... for a while.  ;)

This morning I ordered some Christmas presents.... from Yellowstone... Monopoly of National Parks.... with the little thingies being camping gear & the houses being tents or cabins. My kids & grands have been big board game players & enjoy with each other & friends, so I figured I'd do as advised & order early!

Tom is sleeping in my bedroom & Tiger sleeping where we take naps.... Callie is outside or in the garage, her choice with garage door open enough for her to slip in or out. No danger of rain~~ She couldn't stand me going out the back garage door & not being with me, so she followed me into the pool area while I cut out some darn elm & redbud trees growing in the little circle flower bed in the concrete. She was uneasy & gladly went back into the garage when I did. Cats & their secrets.  ::)

Thanks, Amy, for that link. Sounds so good.... maybe when it gets cooler I'll mix up the kind I don't need to can. That is good, too. Don't remember who all sent the recipes but 4 different states, but came from here.

I am not sure if I got all right about that Pike's Peak run this year, Callie, because he said something about "she rode down" but pleased with how well she did. She had serious neck surgery less than a year ago so had not been able to run for quite a while, that's why they got into riding the bikes. Anybody that can walk & breathe out there impresses me. I made that banana cake & 7 min icing from scratch a week ago & very proud of myself. Not eager to go to all that work again soon. (& remember, we used to have little kids underfoot when washing all those pots, pans & bowls).

Sleep well, Everyfrend and have Pleasant Dreams.

Well, CALLIE, one of the special people was AMY's son.  I had something to send to her and he was in this area so we met in the WM parking lot and he took it for her.
He's a nice guy and she can be proud of him!  I loved meeting with him.  This is our second meeting.

The "stuff" was getting tomatoes ready for canning, getting a leaky window fixed, spending time with my "great-grand- doggie" and making a pretty good dinner (It was Jambalaya...kinda hot but very tasty).  Also, hugs from Frankie when she picked up Cooper and cleaning out a couple of drawers.  Just....Stuff!

Good night all

Jenny, more prayers and thoughts for tomorrow. Hope you can sleep tonight.

I'm ready to turn in myself, Jane. Been trying all afternoon to nap but every time I went into
that bedroom I see those bags of "stuff" that came out of the motorhome and so many batteries needing charged plus updates ..... I'm breathing like already asleep.

Does it feel like somebody left the furnace on?  Really, enough!  Sweet dreams & God Bless..

Good morning..

Dark out there with a temp of 58°. How I wish it would stay there and not go to frying weather!!

Off to go to the grocery store for 7 this morning then home to start canning . Will be a toss up on which one to start.......30 lbs of beets or hamburg?? That's if either one is in the store to buy!

Jane, David thinks you are a pretty special lady but we all in here know that. He should get home in time for supper tonight if all goes well.

Jenny, hugs and prayers for today and a speedy recovery. Let everyone spoil you till you feel up to doing things on your own.

Shirley, we are still in a heat bath..and I am another one that does not like it.  Hope this soon breaks and we get some cooler, livable weather.

Gloria, you could leave the onions out of the slaw, maybe use celery instead? I was amazed that after canning it the cabbage was still crunchy!

Patricia, hope the sun shines through for you today. Not sure how much you would see through that plastic but much nicer than rain.

Callie, that is a lot of noise overhead and I don't blame you for wanting to escape it. One thing about it,these men are pros and it won't take them long to do the roof.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem for a while now.
Cooper has arrived, I fed him and we went for a walk.  Then he had to go out and check out the yard and he's back in and ready for a short rest.

It's supposed to rain most of the day today but it was supposed to start around 8 and that was a little better than a half hour ago.  It's cloudy and kind of dark but so far, no rain.
I told Cooper he was playing "Out again, in again, Finnegan".  That's what my dad used to say I was doing when I was little!  Maybe I was supposed to be a dog!

On the agenda for today....What to do with the summer squash.  There was more on the fence this morning!  I got a recipe for soup off line but it has some stuff I don't have.  I'll have to check what I can substitute or make a quick trip to the store.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone,  already 76 here. Yesterday with the dewpoint it felt  like 101.

JACKIE  the blueberries  this year have been great and no t as expensive as other years. I have some in  the freezer for during the winter. Made a couple of pies so far.

PATRICIA  for someone who canno ttake the hea t and humidi ty of summer I always look forward  to winter and the cold weather.

CALLIE  these days I work with Yvette to bake any thing, she has  to put  things into the oven and take them out. Something else I can no longer do.

SHIRLEY  that Monopoly game will be wonderful for those who like camping. Younger people these days don't  know how to make anything from scratch. Yve tter told me she mad chocolate chop cookies for her grandsons and I asked her what recipe she used. She said the roll from the dairy case. I told her she cheated.

JENNY  surgery never scared me but when they put me under I never wake up till the next day, no matter what time I have the surgery, even when I had the firs t carpal tunnel surgery-done as out patient. Had trouble waking up. T he o ther 2 carpal  tunnel surgeries I was awake buy wrist was numb and did not feel anything. Much better doctor  than  the first  one. Hugs and prayers for you today.

JANE  I am tired reading all you did in one day. I would be lucky  to do one of those chores.

AMY  I cannot remember how many times I substituted celery for onions.

LLOYD  HAPPY BIRTHDAY. How great that Nancy will bake your favorite cake for y our special day.

Sun is shining and the temperature is climbing again. A few more hours and I will be lowering the shades against the sun.
Have a good day and keep cool.

Hot here, too, and I'm so very tired of it.  My younger son and dil were here over the past weekend and I loved seeing them after two years but it nearly wore me down to a frazzle.  I'm still trying to catch up, both the house and me.

Happy Birthday, Lloyd.

Good morning, another rainy day for the Interior. This will last another three days if it stays as usual. Even though I shouldn't be, I'm always surprised at the differences between the North and the East coasts. The East or Atlantic side has humidity and heat in August. The North or Alaskan Northwestern side has no humidity and rain, entirely different ecosystems.

We still have the plastic up. I don't have any idea if they'll be working on my balcony today or not. I do hear heavy machinery, but it's only 8 AM. We are not kept informed. The company that owned these seven buildings here and others in the state pulled out their US holdings in 2016.

The state purchased the Alaskan ones, and I'm not sure that was a good deal. Before, the balconies were poured stucco in a wooden frame, and the new ones remind me of corrugated steel such as commercial roofing. And there is a gap at the bottom.

My biggest grump is that my view of the hills is gone unless I go over, nose to the glass.

I don't know what will happen in October when they replace the windows, as Farrah will likely spend most of that month closed in the bathroom.

The day is slipping away....time to put ones feet up. Two bags of beets were pickled giving us 12 quarts of beets with one more bag to do tomorrow..The hamburg was cooked mixed with peas and carrots then 15  pints were canned for the dogs.  The neighbour has more cucumbers for me to do into dills and that is it! NO more. All that is left is the few beets growing in the garden and potatoes to can..and that is it!
Times goes so fast when one is busy. I didn't take time to eat but my stomach is starting to protest now. I suppose it will growl at me till I feed it. That brought up a funny story I was telling the neighbour. Told her about the canned dog food and it was all good meat and vegetables, no salt or broth just hot water in it. Said wouldn't it be fun to bring up a jar when company was here that states DOG FOOD on the lid to cook it for the table!! Yesterday a young cashier  asked me how I was .said fine......then looked at what I was checking out( 5 boxes of Milk Bone treats for the dogs) and said to her guess I should have said hungry. :)
I know, time to put my feet up.../color]

LLoyd,
Too bad you don't live around here.  I have a thickness planer and a jointer that I have no use for.  It was my son's and I no longer can get into that kind of work.  I dream about it but if I'm realistic I must put it aside. A bunch of other tools also.

Bedtime in Kansas. Cats got some Chicken of the Sea tuna tonight after having raw hamburger & Friskie's canned for supper. I've been planning to "run to visit my recently widowed sister", it is only about 240 miles one way but too hard to make the trip in one day like I did for her husband's funeral.

That time I had my son & his wife in their car & knew if I had a problem they could give me a hand.... and didn't take the cats since we were not spending the night. I wanted to drive my new car & make sure everything worked... big problem, I didn't know how to turn on or use any of the stuff. It does beep if I get out of my lane or too close to the car in front, does show what the speed limit is all along the way, but everything is different from the 2013 model to the 2021!

SO, now that Callie is back, since she doesn't travel, I will only go for overnight, take Tom & Tiger if they don't give me too much trouble. They hide... hate the drive but enjoy the scenery when we stop. Anyway, weather is not helping being so hot, so I keep pushing the visit on down the line. That motorhome is going to have square tires it's been sitting so long.

Rick, I still have the table saw & all the tools it took to build a house. The boys promised to take the table saw, drill press (that came from my father) but they all have newer stuff so I am trying to make sure they really will USE these things & not gather dust or go into a garage sale. I've been tempted to have a garage sale, still so much golf equipment as well as all kinds of yard stuff I will never use. And so it goes..........

Gloria, Andy got me a heater for the motorhome (after Callie "marked" the other one), that has a remote control & does a good job of quick warm up early morning. I don't like to use the furnace, don't like the noise & the electric heater works faster.  Sure wish that temperature was a concern right now! Not sure how big of a space it would heat but it heats half of that 28' motorhome fast. I don't usually need it on after breakfast, I "dress for the weather" & run around with sweats & hoodie when camping. I have an old pair of UGGS for house shoes (my daughter gave me UGGS house shoes but they don't come half way up to my knee!) I still like the cold when out camping. Off to bed. Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Hello All y'all!  I'm going to make this quick because I'm really tired and Christy is coming from Maryland tomorrow.  She's bringing me all the tomatoes I'll need for this year.  We'll eat some and I'll can the rest.  Her garden has done so well that she has more than she can use.  She sent me a picture of what she's bringing and I'm gonna be busy!

I figured out a way to can all the squash my neighbors are sharing with me.  I made some summer squash soup today and it's pretty good and it says it can be canned right on the recipe.  So that's another project for the coming week.  I have more in the freezer than I'll ever use and it's coming out and going in the soup pot.  And my friend down the street gave me a recipe for what he calls zucchini pancakes.  I think they're more like patties fried in a frying pan.  I'm going to try them and we'll see!

Now I've made myself tired with all this stuff I'm planning so I'm off to the haystack.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

It's supposed to rain overnight.  We shall see!

Good morning..
Busy day ahead, one last bag of beets to do  and some little cucumbers. Will head into town to pick up jars for my neighbour and she wants a jar lifter too, we have been sharing mine for now. Overcast here and the front deck is wet, don't know if we had had rain in the night.

Jane, have fun with Christy, you have a lot of work ahead of you today!

Need to get a move on..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Christy is on her way and will be here in about 2 hours.  Lots to do before she gets here and when she is here, we'll be up to our eyeballs in tomatoes!  So this will probably be my one and only post for today.  I might be able to check out tonight but that depends on how weary I am!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, first morning in it seems all summer that it is not starting in the 70's, know it isn't but this past week fel t like a month of too hot and humie weather. 67 now at 7:30 am. Supposed to stay in the 70's all day. Yippee maybe I can enjoy going outside later. The guessers the last 2 days all said the heat would break with a violent Tstorm but we did not even have a drop of rain. Not complaining either.

Hope JENNY is feeling better this morning, even with her arm in a sling and not being able to use it for awhile. They had some kind of icepack on my shoulder  to keep it cold so I never really  felt any pain.

PHYLLIS  I know what you mean about enjoying seeing your son and DIL and being worn out after. I used to feel like that when my daughter and family were visiting for a week-from San Diego. A lot more work and cookin‌g and everything, missed them big time when they left but I was younger (about 35 years younger last time) and still felt worn out. I always had  the time they visit ed out of work for my vacation. Wanted  to spend every minute with them I could.

AMY  hope you can rest more today, think you have done enough canning that you can rest  for a day or 2.

SHIRLEY  years ago when we went camping we used to go into mid or late October. It was warm in our sleeping bags and feeling the cold air on faces made for good sleeping.

JANE  good luck canning summer squash. I don't know anyone who had success with it. One sis ter canned 30 quarts of it when they had a huge garden and ended up having to trow it  all away. She had canned for years, every thing you can think of but that was the only thing impossible. Did you ever slice zucchini, cover with flour then in to beaten eggs then into seasoned breadcrumbs then frying? Yummy. Regin just dried some sliced zucchini, seasoned it before setting to dry. Of course wi th their low humity she put the tray in a sunny window turning them over on the second day, tood 2 days  to dry and even my SIL loves  the way the turned into crispy chips.

LLOYD  I think here the AC will have a rest today. We have a bright blue sky that we have not seen in over a week.

Bet ter get a move on or I will no t be dressed before Bill gets here this morning.
Have a good day and stay safe.

GLORIA and anyone else who might have misread my post...I AM NOT GOING TO CAN PLAIN SUMMER SQUASH.  I'M MAKING IT INTO SOUP AND THAT IS SAFE TO CAN.  I would not can the squash itself because everything I've read says it cannot be canned but the soup is creamed in a blender so the canning heat goes through it and I like the soup and it's something I can open and eat.

ONCE AGAIN....I AM NOT CANNING SQUASH AND I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT YOU DO IT EITHER.

Good morning from the Interior. They had the lift machine out early and just now removed the balcony door lock and took down the plastic. I'm afraid that means they're done, but I hope not. They had originally put down wood and then plywood for the balcony floor. Then they painted it a commercial brand of steel grey and put up the plastic and soon after, coming back to paint a second coat. This one is the color of what may inadvertently come out of either end.

They've finished the balconies. The last portion was to attach steel mesh to the bottom gap. Unfortunately, they left the wet look tan, and I'm being charitable here, floor paint.

Good foggy morning...

After doing 12 pints of beets and 10 more of dill pickles I was done in yesterday. All that is left is the potatoes to can and they are still in the ground, so can wait.
Today I do need to do laundry ,take garbage to the dump and REST! That last one is not going to be hard to do. :)

Two more days after today and into Sept..........remember when we all wanted summer and now poof it is gone.

Patricia, hope they come back and pick up the cans, it shouldn't be up to the tenants to get rid of those.

Jane, are you all tomatoed out? Makes the work a lot easier when you have extra hands helping.

Gloria, the temps could go down further for me!!Slowly getting there. Next will be beautiful fall weather .

Shirley, when we camped we took Bubby our Damation x Dane with us. After we were all parked up I would take him for a walk and the kids would come running saying look a Dalymation! I would make him sit, as he loved the kids and his wagging tail/bum would knock the kids over. He was always ready to go.

Guess I had better rattle these ol bones and get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 61 this morning and I had to put on a warmer robe when I got up this morning. We ended with light rain late yesterday afternoon. I did spend most of the afternoon outside on the porch with a few others. Felt so good to be outside and getting to listen and talk with the others. Been too long since I have done that.

JANE  I thought you are too smart not to can summer squash. Never had soup made with it. I did make one with zucchine years ago and enjoyed it. Doubt I still have that recipe. I know my sister had to get rid of about 50 jars of the squash she canned that summer a life time ago. I spent the summer with her and family when I was 13 so it was a lifetime ago. Her son could not take the taste or texture of that squash but that BIL of mine mad he stay at the table till he ate what was on his plate. Even then I thought he was a mean father.

JACKIE  Joan had another baby in the old Senior Net-Bis' Busy Nest. We had quite a group back then and had a lot of fun. When SN shut us out and Pat opened S&F so many just dropped out and they are missed. Joan was one of a kind and could never be replaced.

AMY I will be happy when I have to put on a sweater or light jacket to go outside. Was so nice yesterday to finally shut off the AC and not hear it running. Cool enought last night to have tie window open in the bedroom and no fan in there running either. Yes canning is a lot of work and time but when you look at everything you  did before winter sets in and you start appreciating all you saved it sure makes one feel like they accomplished something good. I know that is how I always felt. All those sealed jars on the shelves in the basement and hars of jam in the old icebox where I kept them. Sure would like some of that grape jam now, or maybe the blackberry or maybe the apple jelly, hmm or maybe the peach?

LLOYD  hope you and Nancy can head out soon in  the RV and enjoy traveling.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I don't know how much time I have to myself right now.  Christy went to walk with her old school friend so they can have some time together.  They are still best friends and it started way back in middle school.  Christy was an "St" and Julie was a "T" so whenever their class was in alphabetical order (most of the time) they were next to each other.  And they decided early on that they liked each other and it stuck for life.

And Frankie has taken a quick trip to the store so I'm here, once again, with two dogs.  I love them both!  And I love the feeling!

We have 4 gallons of tomatoes cleaned and ready to be canned.
I guess I'll be busy tomorrow.  But it's all free stuff and Christy helped me with the hard part.  I wasn't going to let her but she said, "Instead of sitting around talking, we'll be standing in the kitchen talking."  And she was right!  We talked about anything and everything all afternoon.  Then we even collaborated on a good supper...chicken, baked potatoes, a jar of my canned cole slaw and some of my frozen corn.

Frankie just came back so I'll wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  Been thinking about JENNY and hoping all's well with her!

Had a nap in the afternoon and intend on hitting the hay early...

Well, there's one of all y'all.  Not a busy day in the Soda Shoppe!  I'm all set up to begin canning the 'maters early in the morning.  My plan is to do the quarts that will be used for soups, etc. tomorrow and then cook down the rest for sauce on Tuesday morning before my dr. appt and maybe can it when I get home.  Depends on how tired I am and how long it took for the appt.

I'm heading off to bed soon.  I love it when the kids visit but it sure does wear me out.  I wonder if we wore out my mom.  But we lost her at 71 so maybe yes, maybe no.  My dad was still going strong at 84 when he died doing "stuff".  He just never knew when to quit...I guess I have his genes!

Anyway, I'm off to the haystack!  i wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.....even if you don't get the message by reading this.

Good morning...

We had a storm during the night, I could hear the distant rumble of thunder, see the lightening and loved the rain.
We are off to the city  to pick up a few things for us and friends this morning.

Jane , my friends birthday was on Sat and her family came to visit, she said the same thing loved to see them but boy it tuckered her out. Neighbour birthday was yesterday. Have a saucy day.

Gloria, I am toying with the idea of making 1/2 batch of green relish..even though I said just potatoes left to do. Yes, all lined up on a shelf and who know what this winter will bring. I am stocking up no matter what!.

Patricia, where are you??

Better get skipping, want to be on the road early.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm all set up for the maters and the jars are sterilizing.  It won't take much once I start filling the jars and while they are doing their thing in the canner, I can throw a load of laundry in the washer.  So I decided to sit down with my coffee and visit with friends.

Frankie is coming over this afternoon to wash windows and clean the frames around them .  That's a job that's been hollering for doing.  However, she might have to adjust that plan because it's supposed to start raining around 11 and most of the windows open to rain.  She can possible do the insides but if it's blowing she won't be able to open the windows.

I better get moving.  Unless I miss my guess, I have enough 'maters for 2 cannerfuls of the soup tomatoes.  My plan for the day is to finish those so I can enjoy them while they cool and before I have to stow them away.  I love looking at the finished product!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, 71 and overcast here. Rain this afternoon, wish I could send it to the areas where those darn fires are burning. I was thinking of JENNY over the week end and how she is doing. When I had my right shoulder replaced I went in on Monday and went home Thursday morning. I was ready to leave the hospital Wednesday bu t they said no.

SHIRLEY  you must have been running late yesterday morning. that short post is so unlike you. I like your longer newsy ones.

JANE  canning is much easier when 2 people are working together.

AMY  looks like you wore yourself out and needed that rest yesterday. Yes t erday I was looking at an ad for the packages for the freeze dried meals  that  can be kept for years-astranot (spelling) meals? Was toying with sending for the deal but for almost $900.- and at my age they would outlast me.

JANE  I think everyone who ever did and canning likes looking at all they have accomplished and feel proud of what they did at harvest time. Then in a freezing cold winterday they can use some of it  to feed themselves/family.

LLOYD  Hope you and Nancy can ge t on the road soon.

Another day for the AC here, already feel the humidity going up.
Have a good day and be safe.

I don't want to insult anyone but posting in S&F is not on the top of my to-do list and if I run out of steam and/or time I don't post for that day.  I'm sorry but that is just the way it is.  And, of course, some days I'm just not feeling well enough to be on the computer at all so there might be long silences from me from time to time.  I apologize......but maybe, I  am wrong in thinking that anyone has missed me.  :-[

Anyway, Goodmorning, Everyone.  Thinking of Jenny and hope she is recovering well.

It is hot here but that is not new.  It will eventually cool down and in no time I will be complaining about the cold, I'm sure.

Take care, All.

Good morning from another, yes another, rainy day in the Interior. We've dropped from 88 degrees to 47 degrees in one month, which is normal for August. September is predicted to be, on average sunnier, and the first snow is predicted around the seventh of October, much closer than the usual Halloween.

I'm okay, just grumpy, and not much going on here. We're back to last winter's Covid levels due to Delta and heading into our eighteenth month of total lockdown.

PHYLLIS, I don't know what other people think but when someone doesn't post for several days, I always wonder if they're OK.  At this point in our lives, nothing is certain so I just wonder@

I have 14 quarts of tomatos for soup or casseroles ready to go.  I was up and at it at 6:30 or so this morning and now I'm tired.  I washed a load of towels while the the canner was going and I took a shower when everything was done and set to cool or cleaned up and put away.  Now I'm tired up the gazoo (I know, I know, someone said that doesn't make sense but I've been saying it most of my life and I can't stop!

I think I'll walk up to the corner and see if there's any mail in my mail box and then come back and give in to the bone wearies and the slam shut eyes and just let nature take it's course.  Later, I might get the rest of the maters ready to cook down for sauce tomorrow morning.  I have a dr. appt. that I have to leave here by 12:15 but there's the whole morning to simmer the sauce.

I hope everyfriend's day is going well!  We never got the predicted rain but they're still saying we should have a shower any time now and it's been kind of hazy all day.  I guess we'll see what happens.

HELLO......I am home and doing quite well.  Surgery was Friday and went as scheduled.  I got no sleep that night as the long lasting shoulder block went away at 10 PM.  They had me on a light load Tramadol and it just did not do any good.  I moved up to oxycodone around 3 AM and then started to get some relief but still could not be comfortable for me to sleep😩😪
The next day I was groggy as could be from the strong meds and could not do the stair steps required to go home.  They kept me another night and after a good night of sleep, I was able to do the stairs!  They did request I have in home care for two weeks and I am thankful for that.  No way am I capable of going out to a clinic tomorrow for PT.
I thank you ALL for my continued support.  I appreciate you all so much!  My hubby continues to take creat care of me😘

Take care and I will look back in again when I can.

I made a quick trip to central MO yesterday, to visit my sister. Reality has set in that her husband is no longer going to be around to take card of her every whim. He really was so good to her all these years, everyone thought he was the kindest person EVER lived, so that is a shock to lose.

Her youngest daughter arranged for a meal at HER daughter's house so I'd get to see her daughter's newest grandbaby & the 3 year old. This is all getting complicated to explain, the food was delicious but I was a little uneasy because my great niece also has a day care & it is my fear that kids can pass the Delta germs without having been sick themselves. This being hay fever season it is difficult to know if anyone is suffering from that or "the virus". BUT, there was no way I'd hurt their feelings by not going, all involved with day care are tested weekly for the antibodies & the virus, so probably as safe as possible.

By the way, Lloyd, my sister lives in your "neighborhood" (Warrensburg) & her youngest daughter lives on a farm near, her oldest son has a farm less than 30 miles from there, he is retired now, different direction... no clue of exact locations. My sister is 90 so doesn't drive a lot anymore, but enough help from kids & grands, she is doing okay.

Time to get off the computer & ready for bed. Got the RV cleaned out, frig & freezer as well, so that was a lot of moving after getting home. I managed to get home before sun was too bright in my eyes, think roughly 250 miles from my house to hers, so 500 round trip. I'm not as tired as I thought I'd be because the wind wasn't as bad as normal. Those "high profile" RVs do make a difference when super windy!

Oh, Jenny, glad you have the worst past. So miserable when nothing helps the pain. IT IS OVER, I know, still that re-hab, but you are one tough cookie & will get the job done!

I'm talked out so need to see if Tom or Tiger want to come in. Callie showed up about half an hour or hour after we got back..... and got served a couple meals before I shut down. She will not come around the back so Tom & Tiger may have gone around front to visit with her. They ate & have been outside ever since, not laying around the pool like usual. All's well.

Good morning..

Busy day ahead , meeting friends to exchange items after I take Kyle for his blood work. She is bringing me a huge flat cabbage that will either go into Janies coleslaw  or cabbage rolls. Yesterday was lucky enough to find 8 pkg of lean hamburg marked down.  That will get cooked up mixed with vegetables and canned for the dogs. We managed to find a little table with 2 chairs for the sunroom also.

Phyllis always nice to "see" you in here even if it is just to say hi.

Jane, that is a lot of work! What about leaving your sauce in a crockpot to cook down?

Jenny...so good to "see" you in here. You do have a long road ahead of you to heal  but thankfully you have Bob,your family and home care. Don't rush it and take it easy .

Shirley, that is long enough one way.I remember when we were travelling ,we would stop for the night yet my body seemed to be still in motion. Cut back the miles per day and that seemed to be alright.

Gloria, that is a lot of money to put out. Would be nice if they would break down the amount for a single person and maybe for just 6 months to have on hand.

Temp is 57° at the moment....nice but it won't stay there for long..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  I feel rested from yesterday.  After I was off line, I dealt with three more loads of laundry (the last one is waiting in the dryer for attention).  I was so tired that I went right to sleep when I hit the haystack.

They added "Mannix" to the old show lineup I like to watch at night.  He was one of my favorites and now I know why.  He sure was cute!

We were supposed to get rain overnight but I don't see any signs of it...no wet roads and no puddles.  Ther're still saying "later today".  I don't think they know any better than I do when it's going to rain.  But I did get my leaky window fixed.  Turns out it wasn't the window.  It was the roof right above the window.  And the guy who fixed it said "It's not going to leak now!"  I asked him if he was sure of that and he said, "If it does, call me and there won't be any charge to fix it up."  I guess he was pretty sure of his work.

AMY, I thought of putting the mater juice in the crock pot but I think there might be too much to start with.  I haven't given up the idea but I reserving final decisions until I see.

I better get started or I won't get finished in time to get a shower before Cathy picks me up for my Dr. appt.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, 71 now and sunny. Tonight-tomorrow we are in for some left over rain from Ida.

LLOYD  beats me how  to copy/paste a picture on here.

PHYLLIS  I know what you mean about not feeling up to posting or getting at the computer. I have days I feel like that, too, but try to get here anyway even for a few words. You know how we worry in here about a missing "family" member. We do miss you when we do not see you here.

PATRICIA  glad we were never in total lock down here. Don't know what I would do if CNAs could not get into the building or what I would do without Yvette or my son's Saturday visit every week and other son's unexpected at least once during the week. The witch has just put the furnit ure back in the lobby and opened the community room for card games and bingo on different evenings.

JANE  hope you had a good nap before bed time last night. I had 3 little ones when I first started canning so  trie in aft ernoons when they were napping or af ter they were in bed for the night. I get tired now thinking of those days when I never seemed to get tired and did so much.

JENNY  so glad that is over and now the healing and PT. Different hospitals and ways of doing things. When I had mine done  they had this  thing full of ice cubes  that was kept on my shoulder so kept it  so cold I never felt pain and I was in the hospital longer than you,  too. I did have PT at home and the ones I had were great and made it fun so was not like working but more like playing. I know I was surprised about how fast they had me using my shoulder.

SANDY  always good to see another New Englander post here.

SHIRLEY  glad you got to see your sister and some family members.

AMY  my daughter had a cou ple of containers of those meals, she bought the first one even before they moved. If that dry riverbed floods too long before they get into town for groceries  they will not  go hungry. I don't know how long both containers would last them but they are prepared. Yvette keeps t elling me I should s tock up on canned foods but really do not like can veggies except tomatoes and cream corn ye t when I was growing up we had can veggies in  the winter months when the fresh ones were limited to root veggies.

JANE  Mannix (yes he is a handsome hunk) has been on the Me channel in the wee hours of the morning/night and I have enjoyed  that and a few other of those old shows on the nights I cannot sleep.Hope good news with your doctor appointment.

I APOLOGIZE.  I guess I was being cranky yesterday.  I'll do better.  As Gloria and Jane said, just a "hi" some days will be enough and I appreciate that good friends still think about me.

Another hot day but beautiful.  Waiting on the remnants of Hurricane Ida to bring us rain and we do need some rain.  A few weeks ago I didn't think I would say that but it has been hot and dry lately for several days in a row so rain would be appreciated.  No flooding or wind, however, please.  Poor New Orleans and all of those down there in the Gulf area.

Take care, All.

When you can see exactly what the problem is, it makes it easier to fix it and know you fixed it.  When you can't ID the problem and just guess, the risk of failure is greater.

Good morning from a sunny, but chill at 48° morning. We're expecting 70° for a high today, which is more in line with September. October should stay sunny but chill down further. So far, the weather is as usual for this time of year.

Gloria, we still have CNAs who are regularly tested but no inside family visits. Our community rooms are locked, have been since March 2020, and staff has been reduced, and patient coordinators only work by phone or email. The only stores remaining open are the big mall groceries. Many hospitals are full and unable to transfer patients outside as those states' hospitals are also full. This isn't going to end until we have herd immunity and people stop being political.

Jenny, I'm so glad to hear you're back home and have family to help and PT available! It's so good to hear from you.

Phyllis, even a simple occasional hello, lets us know you and David are doing well.

Jane, I wish at times I was still canning. However, I still have 12 jars of sauce and 14 jars of vegetables from last winter. I don't eat as much or go through it as fast. And some I no longer eat but trade with friends for what I do eat! Speaking of friends, it looks as if we will be reinstituting our morning texts.

Amy, I wish I could drive! Due to social distance, the large city buses are limited to eight passengers, and taxis have abominable wait times and come with plexiglass barriers between passenger and driver. At least the two nearest bridges between the grocery stores and me will be back in operation in November. They've been closed for a year while being rebuilt and have added a few extra dollars to my taxi fares!

Just waiting on the cabbage rolls to call it a day.  My friend gave me a flat cabbage and it was a toss up between Janes coleslaw or cabbage rolls....which I haven't had in the long time. Cooked hamburg, carrots and peas and canned that for the dogs first .

I don't need anyone to give me work, I make more than enough work for me..got to learn to stop that!!
