There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of the people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will have truly defeated age.

I'm so young and you're so old
Paul Anka

I'm so young and you're so old
This my darling I've been told
I don't care just what they say
'Cause for ever I will pray
You and I will be as free
As the birds up in the trees
Oh please stay by me Diana

Thrills I get when you hold me close
Oh my darling you're the most
I love you but do you love me
Oh Diana can't you see
I love you with all my heart
And I hope we will never part
Oh please stay with me Diana

Oh my darlin' oh my lover
Tell me that there is no other
I love you with my heart
Oh oh oh oh oh oh ....

Only you can take my heart
Only you can tear it apart
When you hold me in your loving arms
I can feel you giving all your charms
Hold me darling ho-ho-hold me tight
Squeeze me baby with a-all you're might
Oh please stay by me Diana
Oh please Diana
Oh please Diana .

BEYOND THE CROSSROADS
Cliff Sterling (from old Seniornet)

When I look into the mirror,
I do wonder how it can be,
that an old man looks back at me.
Where on earth has this old man been
for all of those many lost years -
too few laughs and too many tears.

From manhood, up to the crossroads,
those prime-of-life youth years just flew;
those happy years were all too few.
From youth to old age was a blur.
Life's tribulations took their toll.
Now, I'm simply wrinkled and old.

As I look into the mirror,
far beyond the facial lines,
I seek most a heart that is kind;
one with consistent compassion;
a heart forever forgiving -
to share lessons with the living.

I assessed my very being,
far deep within my ageless soul.
Was I wiser as I grew old?
Was my spirit all it could be?
Were my pure thoughts too far away,
when I humbly knelt to pray?

The human jungle was my cross.
Unable to meet its demands,
I mustered courage - made my stands.
Winning battles, but loosing wars,
the struggles had a human price!
I was at my end more than twice.

Only after utter defeat
did life become pure and golden -
returning years that were stolen.
I was led to the right crossroad
and received my award at last.
My trials were in the distant past!

Retirement is traumatizing
to many I am well aware,
but I find a safe haven there.
My spirit and youth are renewed.
Oh glory be, oh glory be,
I found my niche, and I am free!

Good morning everyone, 57 now and to go up into the 70's again. Glad my sons have not taken the AC out of the window yet because I had it running yesterday. Wen I start sweating I know it is hot. At the beginning of the month had the heat turned on to keep warm. Glad I didn't get the clothes for winter out and summer ones out away.

LLOYD  hope those ear drops help, an ear ache is not nice.

JACKIE  I still have and old iron my Mom had, heat on the stove and then iron clothes. Darn thing is heavy and I use it as a door stop.

PHYLLIS  never heard of Hoe cakes. I live in the north east in Rhode Island.
And before anyone asks again we are NOT an island. We are attached  to Conn. on the west and  to Mass. on the north and east the rest is water from the Atlantic. We do have Johnny cakes made with a special white cornmeal from a plce here in RI  that had made it for more than 100 years. They also called t hem Journey cakes and made them to  take along when going on a  trip, hunting or exploring.  They would keep away hunger by having one of them every few hours.

AMY  had to wait till the tears stopped, beautiful story and so sad. WOW so glad Kyle did not get hurt when he fell.

SHIRLEY  Y\OU HAVE THE MOST CATERED TO CATS OF ANYONE i KNOW. They knew a lady with a soft heart when they saw you.

JANE  grea t t hat your daughter will be wi th you for the next  surgery and you will not be home alone.

JENNY  great you have a pool so handy for you.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new page, beautiful graphics and stories.

Have a good day, s tay safe and healthy.

Gloria, my brain went "walk about" and I meant to write Northerners call them Johnny cakes and old-time Southerners call them Hoe Cakes.  But, back in my hometown they were called Corn Cakes.  Whatever name is used they are good and I hope Tome enjoys them.  Good for Bubble for finding the recipe for her.

Hot here, too, with the AC running from time to time but rain coming in with a big cold front tomorrow and Sunday will be COLD.  It isn't supposed to get out of the sixties all day then.  They are saying we will have a big drop in temps.  My winter clothes are close at hand.

Thanks for using one of my graphics, Bubble.  And, thanks, Jackie, for liking it.  That was one I always liked and was fun to make.  I miss doing PSP.

Take care, All.

A message about RAMMEL- Rick
A note to let you all know that Rick's wife, Diana, has  passed away.  She had been in a rehab hospital since April, after falling and injuring her head.  She passed peacefully, on October 10.
No funeral service, but a viewing will be held Sunday, followed by a private burial service.

Rick will be back with us next week, or whenever he feels ready to return. This message was posted with Rick's approval

Thanks, Marilyne. I've sent my sympathy to him already but remember how much it meant to me to read over the messages everyone left when Cas died. I feel bad not having a place to let him know how much all of us care.

Jane, nothing like a chance to visit with our kids to make us stronger.

Gloria, Cas used to say that we had "SUCKERS" written on our roof. He got to enjoying our boarders as much as I did, but jury still out whether birds (including ducks) or cats are the most trouble.

Tom just went out, they all had some raw eye of round cubed plus some rotisserie chicken, but bowls of "Indoor Delights"  dry Friskies that they can eat if they are hungry. Callie came in to eat & wanted back outside in the front. I think she has a friend that visits but not while I am out. Soon she will want to stay in the garage in her heated bed. Feels like fall tonight. Tiger stood at the basement door & kept looking at me & back at the door, she knows she is the only one that gets to go down there. What is it with the girls that they change places to sleep all the time? Callie goes from the top of the camper in the extra garage to inside the saw dust box under the table saw, and the last few days she's been sleeping on the cardboard "flaps" of the box my e-bike came in & I keep around it so she doesn't short it out "marking" like she did the shark vac. She has done some expensive damage around here! So that's my life~~~

Jackie, my sleep schedule is as off the wall as yours is. I know it is my fault that I get up when I'm hungry but have no trouble going right back to sleep with a full tummy. I try to get at least 6 hours off & on in a 24 hour period.... and who cares if it is day or night time. I would not fit in with retirement homes rules, that's for sure.  :D

I'm going to start shutting things down to get to bed earlier, I was tempted to put another load of clothes in the washer but by the time it would be dry I would be past sleepy. Always tomorrow, right? I did get the oil changed in the car & they took care of 2 recalls, a little over 3 hours but they brought me home & picked me back up so had time to do a few things, never get DONE no matter how many hours I put in. Slowed down a tad. ;)

Wishing all sweet dreams and a restful sleep.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The guests slept at Cathy's house because she has plans for a visit to Texas with her daughter next week.  They'll be over here later today.  And I think Frankie is off today and probably sleeping in.  I'm going to get some breakfast and see if the paper got here yet.

Rammel (RICK) I'm so sorry for your loss but we all know your wife is in a better place and that her pain is all gone!  Now she'll watch over you as you watched over her!

I'm off to get some breakfast and maybe take a short walk before the rains come!  We're supposed to have rain beginning around 11 and lasting most of the day off and on!  It's cooler today, too!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

My condolences RICK for the passing of your Wife Diana. You are missed and we all will welcome you back when you are ready to join us again.  Thoughts and prayers for you.

Thank you, MARILYN and JACKIE for letting us know.  As we all know it is still a shock when our loved ones pass even if we know it is coming.

We are enjoying a beautiful day.  Windows are open to refresh our air.  We still have a lot of colors in our trees 🌳

PHYLLIS, I have heard ALL of those names you mentioned but I neve called my cornbread anything but that.

GLORIA, I hope your sons brought you some goodie today along with a nice visit.

Our Arkansas Son, Mark was part of the SEC chain gang today at the Arkansas / Auburn Game. He called and sent several pictures and videos.  He sure had a wonderful time.  His group was escorted in and out of the stadium by the local police with sirens to and from the hotel where they all gathered!  Crazy🤪. The second the game ended they ran as fast as they could to the tunnel to get out of there.....this included the refs also.  There were drinks dumped on them and bad words flying .....guess they needed the police escort out‼️

JANE, enjoy your special time with your family🥰

SHIRLEY, I was quite surprised when our picture taken together at Mt. Princeton Campground TEN yeas ago today popped up on my screen!

THANK YOU, BUBBLE, for our nicely refreshed Soda Shoppe.  I always enjoy the goodie you share with us.

I hope EVERYFRIEND enjoyed their Saturday.

I'm barely awake, less than 3 hours sleep, Tiger insisted she wanted to sleep with me & since she sleeps all day, her "night" is short. I told Google clock to set the alarm for 5:00am to get them fed, me dressed and out the door by 7:00 for church. I always eat something before taking an aspirin and besides that, I am moving slower these days. That darn rib has 4 more weeks to nag. Since I always wake up before the alarm, I've been up since 4:30. Somewhere out there will be a nap, for sure.

I'm loveing the cooler weather, feels like the autumns of long ago. Jenny, can it really have been 10 years ago since we met at Mt.Princeton? Seems like last year! Love reading about your boys, they are nearer the ages of my oldest grands! Oldest gr-son will be 45 in Nov. Shocking to me. Where did the years go?

Wishing all a Super Sunday. Gloria, this is OUR weather, hope it lasts a while. I'd still like one more trip to camp but my 3 kids have been talking about going along & they are way too busy for a time out. Might sneek out by myself, well, with cats. I hate to go off & leave Callie but don't dare try to take her along.

Good morning...

Fall temp is here 41° at the moment. Trees are losing their colourful gowns now, rain helped a bit but time also prevailed.

Angle reminded me that I hadn't posted, thank you Patricia.Been sticking close to Kyle to make sure all is well after that fall and so far so good. Friends stopped in yesterday for a visit, while the ladies talked quilting the men talked shop.  The friend can weld anything and makes beautiful live edge furniture some with iron legs.

Kyle called me to the sun porch to look out across the back yard one day. I am looking for ?? and then I saw it.........a hen from the neighbours had come through the fence and was busy picking and a scratching in the yard. Thank goodness the dogs were inside as I don't know what they would have done.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Just a shortie today because I have to take Cooper for a walk and then get ready for church.  We had temps in the mid 40s overnight and it's not supposed to get above 57 today.  I do believe FALL has arrived!

We had a family diner of Ham and string beans yesterday.  There were 7 of us in 3 generations to eat it.  It was Cindy's request before she left OKla.  and it was always a family favorite when the kids were growing up.  There's enought left over for a couple of quick lunches and Frankie took a container to work for her lunch today.

I better get moving!  Cooper is asking for his walk and I need to hit the shower.  I wish you all a good day... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  I had a prayer answered last night and I'm not worrying about the surgery any more!

Good morning everyone-WHERE ARE YOU?
Goodness 2 posts since I was here yesterday morning, Joan and Jackie. Was the site down or some thing? Not  even Amy posted.
Not much going on here, down to 48  when I first checked this morning. About time it starts feeling normal.
Bet ter get dressed before those inspect ors get here. For 3 days they will be checking all apartments. If things go as usual this will be on Wednesday on the  third floor. Never know when they will change. I do  have any clutter-cannot stand things hanging around. After 6 years I know  the walls could s tand a washing but  I can no longer do things like that and the CNA's cannot either. Even the homemakers cannot do "heavy" cleaning.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good Morning...especially to JACKIE and GLORIA.  At least it's not echoing this morning!

The temp was down in the low 40s overnight and is only up to 52 right now with a prediction of 57 for the high today!  I do believe we have entered Fall.

Cindy has moved in and has her office set up on my dining room table and she'll be staying until after my surgery.  She works from home and got her company manager to agree to have her work from PA for now.  I find it amazing that they can do this!

I'm off for another pre-op visit this afternoon.  I'm not sure who is taking me and who is going along.  I'm pretty sure Cathy is driving but I think Cindy might be riding along.  I guess I'll find out.  And they've discovered that it's time for my next flu shot so they notified me that if I get that at this appointment, they'll give me a dollar in cash.  Probably the easiest dollar I'll ever make!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I've stopped by, got side tracked without leaving a post, been a super long day of doing nothing. The wind is howling, trees bending every direction but temps about perfect, how about low 70s for the afternoon high? Nothing to show for my day, night was almost no sleep with turning to try to get comfy with that crazy rib. Can't think of any reason it decided to be such a "pain" during the night but will be glad when the time is over!

You are all in my thoughts, the aches & pains as well as the health fears so many face. If we had NO health issues, NO limit to what we could spend, what would be your favorite place in the world to visit for maybe 2 weeks?  Think about it.

Mine would be a motorhome just mosey around Alaska, of course that motorhome would be totally maintenance free (sure, like that's gonna happen). Ideally there would be electric hook up every night to charge batteries, catch up with the family that would be traveling in separate RVs, to eat together & talk about the day. I have no interest in man-made sights but would relish the sights of wild life. My dream, oh, and I'd have a German Shepherd as co-pilot...

I don't even have to think about that.  My choice to visit would be a small town in OKla.  to hug and love my great-grands one of whom I've never seen!

This forum sure was not a busy place today.  Where is everyone!

I had another pre-op dr. appt. today and I wonder when they'll stop.  When we got back we just spent a "hang-around" day with my two daughters.  Cindy is getting ready for bed now and I'm about to do the same.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

I do believe we had frost overnight. I did cover up the one strawberry plant that I let a strawberry grow ,just to have a taste of the fruit of the new plants.

We took off yesterday, to the city, long drive but all in all a good day. We both had a welcomed feed of Chinese food and I found some canning lids ( 17 pkgs) at a store  on the way home.

Jane, great that Cindy is going to stay with a while. Good time to catch up on all the information on what they have been doing. Your family looks after you including your grandchildren.. :smitten:

Gloria, if we don't high tail it to the city early it gets too busy for me to enjoy. Some of the items I wanted wee just not there. I got the answer that they are sitting in ships off shore waiting to be unpacked. One lady said buy your Christmas gifts now for the kids because once the toys are gone they won't be re stocked soon.

Shirley, like you we would get a motorhome and visit all our friends. We have been to Alaska and really enjoyed what little time we had there.......been to 17 States in all and across Canada.

Patricia, how are the renos going? Are they done yet? How is Farrah with all the ruckus going on?

Lloyd, how are you? You posted on the 17th and nothing since.

Phyllis, the IP is going to get a work out today. We are to get our flu shot and Kyle gets his covid booster on Thur and I want to make some soup to have on hand ,just in case we both are not up to much.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was in the low 40s overnight and only supposed to make the mid 60s today.  But it's supposed to be clear and sunny so maybe it won't feel that cold.

AMY, with all the canning you do, you must already have soup made!

SHIRLEY, I hope your rib is feeling better!

JACKIE, Good morning to you much earlier than my morning starts.

I'm going to go get a shower and get dressed pretty soon.  Cindy's friend is picking up her and two others for a surprise of some kind this morning.  She has no idea what's going on!

Cooper will be here around noon so I don't have to be ready for anything until then.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jane, I do have some soup already canned but my go to soup if not feeling up to par is chicken noodle and I don't have any already made:(
I do have it on good authority that one can get both needles and feel ok. We never had a problem with the flu shots before so we shall see.
Frost is melting  and in a bit I will go peek at the strawberry plants and see how they tolerated the frost.

Good morning everyone, a very brisk one, went down to 38 and now up to 44. sun is shining and sky a beautiful blue, windows closed no fans on and heat is on. I was surprised at how late I woke this morning almost 8 so had my 8 hours sleep and maybe a bit more last night.

JANE  how great that Cindy is there with you and can still work at her job. Like my grandson -my pc guru-works from home and it  is great for his son, no baby sitter needed after school and  that little sweetie loves his Dad. We had our flu shots here in  the building  and  got a $5.00 coupon for CVS off a $20.00 purchase. Easy to do there, Yvette has to go there today to pick up a Rx for me.  I pray nothing new  to worry about with the pre-op yesterday.

SHIRLEY  my dream would be  to have my 3 and  their kids and grands all together. Don't care where, here or in Arizona, as long as we all were together.

JACKIE  good morning to you.

AMY  I woke  too late  this morning and  the sun was already hitting t he cars so could no t t ell if i t was fros toe dew on  the windows of  them. Was cold enough for it. I s till have a bruise on my arm from the flu shot  I got on 10/1 and  that never happened before.

LLOYD  at least you are keeping busy and not  bored.

Have a good day and stay safe and happy.

Good morning everyone! I'm having a late start today as I was up until just after three in the morning. I would have slept longer, but the heavy machinery working on the triad of apartments below me woke me up. I spent yesterday sitting in a chair for eight hours in an opened break room, with my kindle and crosswords with no exercise, so I never had a chance to get tired!

Poor Farrah was under the bed; she only came out when I did and has wisely decided to stay away from the windows and behind me for the day. I'm bigger and would probably get caught and eaten first in her book!   She moves when I do but is always a step behind me.

Last evening at four pm, I opened the bathroom door and left her to emerge independently. She took a minute to regroup and then slowly, stealthily check each room for any intruders before relaxing. I hate to see her back to hiding again. At least my window/door looks good and seals against drafts. However, no screen on the balcony doors as previously promised by management!!

When I returned at four, my apartment was freezing; the thermostat read mid-forties! I now know how cave dwellers must have felt with two six-foot by six-foot openings in my apartment for those eight hours they were in here. I reset for 85 degrees, and it has taken until this morning to warm fully. At least the two months of construction are behind me! They have only the floor below to finish and some later time to do the twenty studios, four on each floor. Somehow, they ordered the wrong-sized sliding glass doors, which are not wide enough for wheelchairs, so they're waiting on that.

Good Night Everyfriend!  I'm about to hit the haystack.  It's been a day of differences ending with dinner at my daughter Cathy's house.  Cindy and I took fresh corn from the freezer, cooked and ready to eat.  Cathy made ham loaf and scalloped potatoes and we had ice cream for dessert.  It was a fun evening!

Cooper is spending the night so I'll have a bedfellow tonight!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Gloria, I do wish you could have your kids/family together for a photo to hang on your wall. We try to get one every year but now & then somebody is missing. The last gathering my youngest son & his "significant other" were on a cruise so I managed to insert their photo into a picture frame hanging on the wall behind all of us. Doesn't look like we will get one this year & didn't get one last year, covid was the excuse.

Patricia, poor Farrah must have been in agony thinking her world was falling apart. I do feel for animals when we can't explain to them. I guess this has been what Tom feels when we head out in the motorhome, wondering what's going to happen to him. I didn't have to take them until Cas died so by then they were about 4 years old, and Tom has always been a scaredy cat.

Amy, would love to meet you in a National Park or Corp of Engineer campground, we'd have a ball. I'm not up to the hiking anymore but love the cooking over a campfire or even cooking & baking inside. I do like having a real oven & frig & freezer for convenience, makes it fun to serve up really good biscuits & all the fixings.

Jane, just while ago my daughter & I talked about what happened with my year.... was about a year ago I had covid, then spring was the cataract surgery that got extended because of the meds & took 2 weeks with each eye my daughter stayed with me plus a month between, so there went a couple months. Covid was only 2 & 1/2 weeks but some time to get over. No wonder this last year seemed lost. You will look back at this trial of yours and feel the same, I think, of how this isn't our norm! If you decide to make that trip to OK, betcha we could get a few of us together for lunch! (How about it, Callie)

Lloyd, you'll have to start getting the wood to build all the stuff you planned. I had to buy a fence board last week & the quality of wood is awful compared with what I bought last (some years ago). Don't know about you but I'm having trouble getting started with the projects waiting to be done. Promised my daughter I'd paint a portrait of her daughter's dog that she can give her for Christmas & need to get out my paints to see if any dried up. I've done hundreds of dog portraits & kept going up on the price to limit the orders, kept me busy. I've had the photos of her dog since spring & still haven't dragged the paints out, time is running out to have it ready for Christmas!

Jackie, for all the years we've known each other, I believe you've finally found a place you feel at home. So happy for you.

I didn't realize it is past 10:00pm and I told myself I was going to get to bed early, have a super busy day tomorrow.  I really dread dealing with my lawn mowing guy, he speaks English & understand much better than he lets on... in other words, he hears only what he wants and does things the way HE wants. I hired him because he advertised cleaning gutters. We discussed HOW they would be cleaned. I explained I wanted the leaves & bird nests cleaned out by hand & put into buckets and not washed into the downspouts. He & his son were on the roof just blowing leaves out but didn't get out the stuff stuck, just blew all down the downspouts & with the rain last week, water poured over just like before if not worse! I took photos/videos.

Anyway, each time he mowed since he ignores what I say & does what he wants. He insists "he mows all yards to the end of October" and bills for that many weeks(5). So far he has skipped doing the routine work & "will do that next week".... so not getting what I pay for. He just ignores what I am saying & walks off like we're done talking. I hate to be bullied. Besides, he doesn't show up when we agreed so I spend the whole day waiting to unlock the fences. He made a crack last time that "nobody going to steal your pool" because I won't leave gates unlocked when I'm not here.. and finally I shouted back at him that "it's the law to have pools locked"... and repeated "it's the law" a couple more times so he didn't argue more.

Okay, got that out of my system, he won't be back next year or get the job of cleaning up leaves!!! I'll do it myself if I can't find someone else! Terrible to get so upset with someone supposed to be working for you. And now to bed. Sweet dreams to all, my heart is pounding just thinking about dealing with this guy tomorrow, crazy, huh?

Good morning everyone, 50 now, warmer than yesterday. At least the sun warmed up  so it was a pretty nice day.

PATRICIA  was a crazy time of year to have windows gone from apartments where you are while they put  new ones in. Hope you get screens in before you want to open the slider and windows. The witch here would have a fit if she saw any thermostat set above 68 but I would freeze these cold mornings if I did not push it up to run at 80 till it shut off. Then I lower it again.  Today is laundry day and my summer spread will get washed and put  away and my quilt put on the bed. Will feel nice and cozy on the bed on these colder nights.

JANE  it has been ages since I made scalloped potatoes, wonder if I can remember how I made them. I know they have them in a package now and when I lived at my son's house he would make them and to me they tast ed like glue. I sure do not like potatoes coming from a box.

SHIRLEY  my daughter has been working on a painting of a sunset for her older son. She asked him if he would like a painting and that is what he said he wanted. She said she is having  trouble getting t he colors right but she will go it before Thanksgiving. Her o ther son has not told her wha t he would like yet. The landscapers that come here talk spanish but they are all good workers. When they live here after their mowing and trimming evey Wednesday every thing looks perfect. They do no t do gutters  They would have  to have ladders to get up  to  the roof here on the  third floor.

AMY  better get outside work done before snow flies? I have  to make a dental appointment and hope  to ge t tha t out of  the way before win ter gets here. I dislike going anywhere in win ter mont hs. Getting  too hard to get dressed warm enough in the winter months.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning,

Shirley,  I'm about the same driving distance from Jane's family as from you. Would be happy to hostess a luncheon for the two of you - but not the cats!!!

Jane, so happy your family is there.   The meal of ham, scalloped potatoes and corn made my mouth water!

Gloria, I haven't made scalloped potatoes in years, either - and agree with you about the taste of the boxed potatoes!  :P  Have discovered already wrapped potatoes for baking in the microwave (white ones and sweet ones). Haven't tried the sweet ones but the white ones are very easy to do and taste good.

Patricia, even though the roofing project was only two weeks instead of two months - I understand how relieved you are that your construction is finally done.  Do I remember correctly that the balcony floor is slick?  If so, I hope that gets taken care of ASAP.

#2 son/dil brought Chicken Parmigiana from Olive Garden for dinner last night. Yum!!!!

Chilly and overcast today. Will probably avoid hunting for  the Domestic Duty "round tuit" ;)  and read one of the four e-books on my library loan list.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning from a 30 degree Interior with an expected high of only plus 37. Everything is frosted grey with snow expected overnight.  The construction company started September third and is finishing the left side of the third floor with the twenty studios left for another time.  At least, it's fully sealed, and no more wind and cold were coming through! Farrah is still my very close buddy, but I expect that will change.

Today will be another day of either returning items to their place or finding a new home for them. This is a time when I wish I qualified for assistance or that what I do qualify for wasn't hopelessly backlogged! None of the administration, security, or maintenance staff live on-site, so they're only here on shift.

We used to have an entire staff 24/7, but now the admin works behind closed, locked doors, and there is only one maintenance and one security staffer at any time. There are so few people wandering the halls that the automatic lights rarely turn on. If it weren't for an occasional meal on wheels staffer or some other type of aid worker, I'd believe I was the only one living here. But then the televisions turn on.

Gloria, tell Regina I also have a problem with getting colors the way I want UNTIL, tis true, I surround myself with the colors I want.  Had to borrow some wall paper from a neighbor one time, was the colors my daughter in law wanted in their living room. I had worked & worked & was sure I could do it but not until I spread those scraps of wall paper around me. One time, when we lived in the KC area I was working on a painting for a bedroom that you could see from the entry hall. I knew what I wanted but the colors kept coming out blues & greens. Finally it dawned on me I was painting out in a "sun room" with floor to ceiling windows on 3 walls. The colors in that painting matched the colors surrounding that room. I gave up & bought a blue bedspread since you could see one corner of the bed from the entry hall (it was a 4 level house). We had a little over an acre with lots of shrubs & evergreens.

Callie, I haven't checked on the map where anyone lives but was not hinting for you to host, just to find a place we could meet. Course we gotta get Jane there first!  By the way, cats never get out of the motorhome, must be locked in the bedroom so they can't escape when I get in & out. They run free as long as I'm inside. BUT, I thought I could make this a one day trip & not take cats or motorhome, not so???

Now back to duties. Had my shower & been waiting for a call back from the pool guy for when we close the pool for the winter. Think the real heat is over & will be nice to cover before the leaves start dropping big time. Need to fill the elephant with gas, hope for an overnighter before the end of the month. I have 2 dollars off for 35 gallons of gas each way so that's a savings of $70 for a trip (fill to go & fill when I get back). I hear the trees are starting to change in MO~~. I like to have a full tank in case power goes out, can always hide out in the motorhome & run the generator.

Crazy world but do with what we have, right? Enjoy the day & hope you have this fantastic fall weather like we are having.

You snuck in, Patricia. Glad the worst is over for you & Farrah. I can tell these cats are getting a little more at ease with our life, anxious to see if we can make it thru another trip without either barffing ...

Shirley, a one-way trip would be possible - longer for you.
More or less teasing about the cats - guessing you won't go out of town without them. Unfortunately, you couldn't park the motorhome in my neighborhood - and I don't know of anyplace around here to do so.
However, we could all meet in Stillwater (ever heard of "Eskimo Joe's"?}, which would be shorter for you.  Jane's relatives near Tulsa would, of course, be included - as would any other Friends who'd like to join us.

I miss the days when Helona, GinnieB and I would get together with the "Okie Lunch Bunch" and/or meet Seniornetters traveling through OKC on I-40, I-35 or I-44.  Good times - including one with Jane, who drove up from Texas and spent the night with me.

Hello Everyfriend!  Today was a beautiful day.  The sun was shining and the temp was in the low 70s most of the day!  I'll take that!

CALLIE, first...the dinner wasn't just plain ham.  It was homemade ham LOAF and it was delicious and Cathy made the scalloped potatoes herself and they were delicious

Second...going to OK was my wish that SHIRLEY suggested we all think about what we'd most like to do.  At the time I posted, it was only a wish because my flying days are done.  However, when my granddaughter was here last week, I laughingly told her that if she ever decided to drive to OK again, she should let me know.  I might want to tag along and stay for a visit with my daughter.  She immediately said she's thinking of doing just that next Spring and she'd love the company. I guess we'll see how that works out!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  My eyes are just about to enter slamshut mode and my whole body is tired.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I f I can get Nancy to get in the mood to traveal again I am ready to get in the RV ans come see some of you all. Have a good day and a better tomorow.

Good morning everyone,  54 now and will get into the low 70's according to local weather guesser.

CALLIE  I still like my baked potatoes in the oven ,nice and crispy skin. I have tried  the microwave ones but the flavor is not the same.

PATRICIA  we no longer have a maintenance man living here since  that one retired. The new one has a house and family with 4 kids and the apartment here for the maintenance man is just too small for him.

JANE  cannot beat home made food for  taste and we know what we put in our food. My DIL Shirl has found a recipe for home made Bisquick, nothing GMO in it either.

AMY  no rain here and I don' t think we really need any now after all  the rain we have had. Now the leaves are getting their fall colors, love seeing the red leaves get lower in the maple trees at the last row in the parking lot.
Soon t hey will drop the leaves and sleep for the win ter and maybe get a coating of snow or ice  that will sparkle in the sunshine.

LLOYD  it would be grea t if Nancy would come here in to the SS and say hello.

Think I will go lay on  the couch and have a nap before Yvette gets here.
Have a good day and be safe and healthy.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The sun is up and it's 40º and just a bit hazy.  But it's heading for a high of 72 and that's fine with me.

GLORIA, I still like my baked potatoes in the oven!  That's how I learned to eat them and that's how I like them.  I do "tolerate" them done in the microwave if I'm in a hurry, though.

I'm learning some computer and telephone stuff from my family expert while she's here.  She is so smart about both phones and computers and I'd be crazy not to ask questions.

I have to go swish my medication in my mouth and then I can't eat until lunch time.  So I'm finishing my second cup of coffee and then swishing and taking a walk.  Frankie is off today and I won't have Cooper but my other daughter in Maryland is coming up here tonight so we can all be together.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I'm sitting at the computer with one leg ready to jump up, got the pool man coming at "10ish". I was up early but organizing these cats is like putting on a flea circus... Tiger is still off somewhere in the house or basement sleeping so her salmon is sitting on the counter.

Got the sprinklers running, they are really pumping out the water since Andy fixed them last time. So far my big sweet gum tree is hanging onto her leaves, one down the street already dropped about half because that yard never got watered all summer.

I need to go vac the pool before they come to close. They usually do that but this time I want them to do the side walls & tile because that's harder for me with this rib, got to be nice & clean before all the chemicals to close. I was pleased this spring when we opened, still nice and clear compared with years before this guy did the closing.

Callie, only time I have to take the cats is when I'm going to be gone overnight. I really do enjoy driving a car "like normal little old ladies".

I do love potatoes baked in the oven but I can't bring myself to run the oven that long for just me. I use the microwave & then either mash & put lots of butter & shredded cheese over or put in a skillet of butter & turn them into hash browns. Potatoes are my "soul food or comfort food", satisfy or soothe the head & tummy.

City mowers are out probably doing their last trim of the season, got hooded sweatshirts on so guess it's still pretty chilly. Wishing all a "Thuper Thursday"... (thanks, Callie).

Jane, I'm liking the sound of your trip and betcha Callie & I can come up with a plan~~

Not long back from my morning church games - tea and prayer then into the adjoining hall for our lunch...what a fantastic time i had at our table and with the people who sat with us... A very enjoyable meal and great company as we reminisced about things we remembered...i relayed a story about the life of my time working in the betting office, and someone remarked on the good memory i have after i even remembered the name of the horse and the name of its trainer...and this was a story of a punter from 45 years back..

Snow tires are on and I hope they wait a long time before they play in snow!!

We also love a baked potato with a crispy skin. I will do them part way in the microwave then put them in the toaster oven or I can't see why you can't finish them off in the air fryer to get that crispy skin.

Jane, I do have soup canned but not chicken soup and that is my go to when not up to snuff.

Jesse and Babe met the hen that comes over from time to time. I held my breath thinking oh my feathers may fly
but they just looked at her and she just toddled along back home.

Shirley would the rescue remedy help your cats when travelling?

Amy and I do our baked potatoes the same way...I put them in the microwave for one cycle of of potato bake and then finish them in the Cuisinart counter oven for the crispy skin that David likes.  It's quicker.  I can't eat the skin so would probably fix them only in the microwave if cooking just for me.

We've been pre-occupied here with appointments and all kinds of things that need to be done before the end of the year so I haven't been here for a few days.  I was sorry to hear about Rammel's wife and hope that he will be back with us when he has worked his way through this difficult time.  My prayers are with him and his family.

Also, thinking about you, Jane, and hope that things are going well with you.  So glad your family is being so supportive.  That means so much.

If I have neglected to say "Hooray!" for all of you with good news or, "I'm sorry" for all of you with worries of any kind, please forgive me.  I've fallen so far behind.  But, I think of all of you and wish you the best.

Take care, All.

Good Morning,

Shirley, I agree about using the stove oven just for me and use a good-sized toaster oven - - unless I'm "cooking ahead" to put in the freezer. Also have a 1 1/2 quart slow cooker for the same reason.  (I do NOT mind left-overs and can almost always find something else to do besides be in the kitchen  :) )

Because I'm limited on # of carbs I can have per day - and really prefer some kind of bread/rolls/etc. to potatoes- I don't keep raw potatoes on hand.
I've come to depend on the refrigerated mashed potatoes - regular, "loaded" (like a baked potato with bacon, etc) or with white cheese.
So the micro ready baking potatoes are a nice change and I can turn them into "twice-baked"/stuffed ones in the toaster oven.

Yes, indeed, we will come up with A Plan when Jane is in the area. Looking forward to that!

Repeating what Shirley said I said  ;) re: having a Great Day.

Good morning from the Interior, where the only change from yesterday is that the snow expectations for overnight got pushed back until Sunday. Farrah is slowly loosening the reins and no longer keeps a close eye on me for any signs of construction noise panics.

I rarely have baked potatoes for some reason. But when I do, they're oven-baked. I usually have mashed, either alone or as a filler in soups or stews. I do like potatoes O'Brian sometimes in the morning with eggs. I tend to eat more grains or types of rice instead.

Jane, I'm holding good thoughts for you to have an excellent outcome and how nice the family is getting together with you. You do have a wonderful family, very loving, and that goes back to you.

Amy, you are either off to the city or off to do chores; sometimes, I get tired just reading about your adventures!  :)

Jackie, I am so impressed with all the good that has come with your move. You do seem so much happier, tell your new friends that "this old friend is very grateful for what good care they are giving you, my thanks to God you found them".

Pool closed down for the winter, nice man & son that works so well together. And now I've got to get busy & write all the checks for utilities and deliver to the post office & make a run to Sam's Club. I think I will be ready for a nap when I get home.

Back home and ready to tackle the rest of the day.
Phyllis, have to tried peeling your potato, cook it in the micro a bit then put it in the toaster oven to brown and crisp? This will make a hard shell to which I will cut the potato open, scoop out the potato, slater some butter and lots of garlic powder in the shell and eat it!!

Patricia, this is an easy week so far. Next week it is two trips to the hospital  and hope nothing in between crops up. I have a very good feeling on our trip next Friday..

Thank You
Thank you all for the Prayers and nice comments.  I'm not good with words so there will be few. Just want all to know it's great having you as friends when needed, and now was the time.  All your words have helped my son and I through the past days.  As some have said, time heals, so I will let time do it's thing. But the gap will never be filled.

Good morning.

Tis coat weather out there this morning 36°with a high of 42°

Off to  get a few groceries before the store gets crowded. Home to make pastry for some pies and clean.

Patricia, this is slowing down..and I am thankful for that. When we worked life was a tad busy but we got through it. I hope your snow stays away for a while as when you do get it to stay it comes in feet not inches!

Jane, enjoy your family. I can imagine the giggles and reminiscing going on.

Gloria we noticed a lot of trees are now bare..getting ready now for the next step for winter.

Better get my duds on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning everyone, don't think summer wants to leave this year. I sure wish my AC was still in the window, would have been using it yesterday/last night.

JANE  if I am in a hurry I will turn on my counter oven to warm up and them put a tater in the microwave for a couple of minutes and then into the hot  oven. It cuts down some on the baking time by doing it that way and still get a crispy skin.

AMY  as much as I always loved snow I am not that way now except to look out the window at it when is is pretty and clean covering every thing. I no longer make any appointments in winter but from early spring till late autumn-in between I jus t want  to stay home. Now I know I am OLD.

PHYLLIS  some days I just do not feel like "talking" in here and today is one of them. Just want to go back to bed.

RAMMEL  good seeing you back. Like you I am not her not good with words to express what I want  to say. Some things take more time to heal than others.

AMY  we have not even had a frost  yet. Cannot l these warm days an Indian summer just a crazy year for weather.

Have a good day, I t ink some of Jane's ZZZzzzzzs found my couch and calling me. Nap time, Yvette will be here at noon so have time for a nice nap.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend! It's 57º and cloudy this morning heading for a high of only 59 today.

AMY!  KEEP YOUR SNOW IN CANADA. PLEASE!  The border is closed to snow!

The only real plans I have for today is supper for Christy, Cindy, Frankie and me!  I got some haddock filets at the Farmers Market on Wed. and that's what we're having for supper with a jar of my canned potatoes in the air fryer or maybe the oven since it will already be on!  Don't know about the veggie.  I'll have to check what I have!

I wish you all a good day!  Better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning,

Janie, another delicious supper planned at your house!  :smitten:  Meant to comment earlier on ham loaf.  I love it and used to make my mother's recipe but began to have trouble finding ground ham and didn't like what I tried to do at home.
Grocer told me they couldn't use the same grinders as they did for beef or chicken and it was too much trouble to clean it for one order of ground ham. Guess they didn't sell enough to have a grinder reserved.

Agree that border is closed for snow, Amy - although the Continental Divide near Leadville CO is covered.
Our cottonwood trees haven't even begun to turn color - much less fall off.  News sounds as if it's the same in the eastern part of the state, which usually has gorgeous foliage by now.

I finally finished writing my Dad's biography.  Now into the "labor-intensive" part of editing, rewriting and correcting typos.  May ask sons if they'd accept a copy electronically instead of printed.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Fabulous Friday (beat you to it, Shirley  ;D )

Good morning, 17 degrees here and no snow, the predictions keep getting pushed back. However, that cold, frozen gray slush is dangerous to walk or drive. Since we are in the 19th month of our total lockdown, there are few out and about, making for fewer icy falls and head-on crashes.

I'm still putting everything back together in my apartment, and Farrah now feels safe enough to leave my side even with distancing construction noises. I've got my hall walkin closet sorted and donated multiple items to donations and bins. My living room slash office is a work in progress, and my bedroom will be last.

They put in a smaller set of blinds with a top header, the blinds lengthwise. The blinds are still almost floor to ceiling but don't take up the entire wall. The bonus is that not only is there weatherstripping and no air leaks, but the blinds don't creak and whistle and groan when opening or closing them.

Rick, it was nice to see a post from you.

Jane, I know you're enjoying having your girls around and your family close!

I don't think I've ever had ham loaf or ground ham.

Amy, snowing. Isn't that early for you?  We had our first snow before the trees started coloring, and the leaves fell after the snow melted. It has to warm up to gain humidity for snow, and I don't see that happening right now. However, my dry skin and eyes have already made themselves known. Today, I'm cleaning my humidifier and putting it back out.

Patricia, no this isn't early. We have had snow on the ground other years.
I made the  Panera bread, chicken wild rice soup for lunch today  and it is a keeper. Mind you I will add garlic next time and more carrots.
Good to hear your blinds don't creak, whistle and groan anymore. Sounds like me getting up in the morning.. :2funny:

Snow has stopped and now 38° sunny with a bit of breeze that is blowing the bedding dry.

Got no time to talk but need HELP fast.  I've spent most of the day thinking about & composing a letter to my lawn mowing guy from Hell.... and want to put in the mail before I chicken out. I am firing him.... haha... with one week left to mow & I can't take it.  Had a look at the damage he did to the neighbor's yard and am just sick. They are so sweet & not blaming me at all or even acting upset, but after all they've spent to have it done over I do feel responsible & will find some way to make up.  BUT, that's not the problem, it is, and this is where I'm confused, is it my printer or computer that tells a page to put numbers on???  The page numbers do not show up in the "preview" but are there when printed.  I want this to look impressive & for one page I don't need to number it. Does anyone know if I need to go into printer settings or what.... I checked on Wordpad and it doesn't show numbers, just lay out of pages, etc. I have a new Brother printer & set up can print from any of the computers (thanks to #1 son, but he is off to a Scout camp out for the week end). I really don't know much about any of the equipment since "back in the day" when I worked, we didn't have computers.  :uglystupid2:

Shirley , do you have a "help" icon along the top of your page? If so  tap it and type in "delete page  numbers".  I tried this last night and got instructions on a side screen that stayed on while I followed the very simple directions
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for October 15, 2021

Well, Callie, I found a place to "tick" not to add page numbers but it did it anyway. Maybe because the file was already in & if I'd turned the computer off it might not have?  Maybe the next letter or page won't auto put on. Thanks for the tip.

I discovered I didn't have his present mailing address so did a Google & found he has been notorious for pulling the same crap everywhere. NOT BBB approved and had 3 really bad reviews with same problems I've had. But I did get his address so need to see if it is the same as years ago when we used him. Kind of scary after what I just read, but that's why I wanted to put it in writing & not just try to call him. I don't scare easy but this is frustration & know nothing to worry about, I just don't like "uproars"... you remember, it wasn't lady-like back in the day! He never tried to bully my husband (Cas was a foot taller than him & looked like Robert Ryan with that stern-don't mess with me look on his face). haha, I may not be quite 5' but I got a Ruger & a Baretta & few other no names!!!   ;D

Shirley,  I tapped "Insert" - then "Page Numbers".  The list began with several choices for placing them, then "add page numbers" and at  the end of the list was "remove page numbers".  When I tapped it, they disappeared..

Actually, I don't think it would matter if you left the number. He probably won't read that far.

GOODEVENING EVERYFRIEND.

It has been a busy and stressful week.  My working out at the pool is going wonderfully, but it leaves me totally exhausted‼️

Family members on the move this week.....HAPPY for the rain on the left coast, but not the best time to be moving into a new home with the predictions of flooding from "bomb cyclones"‼️  Flooding and trees down is not good timing.

AMY, we hope to get our Moderna Booster tomorrow.....and do not expect any side effects but it is wise to plan ahead just incase you do. No good homemade soups here, so would you please leave some in the hidy hole for us?  Hope you both are feeling fine.

GLORIA, it is such a guessing game regarding when is too soon to take your window A/C out!  Hope you will be fine from now on.

SHIRLEY, I am sorry you are having to deal at all with your lawn company.....shame on them!  You definitely need to turn him not the BBB.  You have so much to deal with these days also, and I worry about you😘

PATRICIA, I an happy to read the work is done n your place and you and Farrah can settle back in again.

Have a goodnight of rest.

Jenny

I'm off to the haystack.  We watched a movie and it was all I could do to keep my eyeballs focused on the screen and my brain working to absorb what they were saying.  But I made it through without falling asleep!  Now I have to give in!

Tomorrow is the day for the recycling center and I have a ton of stuff to go there!  Have to be there between 8 and 12 so I'll have to get moving!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Now this is getting more like winter temp is 28° at the moment.

We both have a sore arm  from the flu shot but that is ok. Kyle is now making smaller 10 inch log home for the grandchildren. He is running out of space around the shop wall for the bigger log homes.

Jenny, safe travelling for your family members. Worrisome no matter what age they are. We have not ate at Panera but really enjoyed this soup, easy to prepare too. Put some in the hidey hole for you..along with a piece of garlic bread to dip. :)

Jane, enjoy your day with the girls.

Gloria, it is geemogootchie day here either that or I am getting soft!

Patricia, is Farrah settled better now?

Lloyd, hope your granddaugher and her husband are feeling better and that you and Nancy don't get covid!!

Better put a skip to my lou and get ready to meet the day.

I woke up to cool temps. and clouds but the sun is trying to peek out now and it is supposed to warm up this afternoon.

These last few weeks have been so busy and a bit stressful for me.  I don't handle trying to juggle a bunch of "need to do" things very well, anymore.  But, eventually, things will calm down and I can sit back and relax.  All of the appointments will be met and all of the chores will be done and, hopefully, all of the worries will be resolved...one way or another.  And, Time will go on....just as it usually does.

I haven't done much real "cooking" lately but I'm beginning to crave some soup.  I got a nice looking butternut squash from Papa Spuds the other day.  When I get up enough gumption to cut it up I'll make some Butternut Squash Soup.  That is one of our wintertime favorites.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone, will be lucky to get to 60 here today but I like this cooler  weather. Rather  wear a sweater or light jacket instead of suffering in the hot  temps and the humidity.

AMY  about a week ago my daughter sent me a picture she took of some mountains she sees every day and there was snow on the top of them. Several years ago we had a storm a few days before Halloween and schools let out the regular time and businesses were let out the same time as schools. BIG mess on the roads. That was before everyone had cellphones and parents were getting frantic when the school busses had not delivered their kids home by 8pm. They could not call schools, no one there so they finally started using radio to let everyone know the busses were stuck but the kids were all ok. Some did not get home till 10 that  night. Most  towns postponed Trick or Treat till the following week.

LLOYD  hope your test is negative, sure do not want you getting that covid virus. Hope your grand daughter and her husband both have a mild case of it.

JANE the day started here with your temp from yesterday but the sun is shining bright. I don' t think I could even think of a menu or cooking for more than me anymore.

CALLIE  leaves are slow changing coloor this year, wea ther guessers say it is because it has been so warm this month. We still have not had even a light frost yet.

SHIRLEY  I was  thinking how it stinks when men hired by a woman to do a job and don't do what they were hired for and take advantage of them. Seems like tha t man is one mean son of a gun.

When I had ham left over I would grind it for ham salad for sanwiches, I would add chopped celery and some relish and enough mayo to hold it together. Never added other meat to it and of course the left over ham was cooked.

JENNY  it is manager's orders when the AC has to be out of the windows. I would s till be running it in the la te aft ernoon if it waas still in. That  is after a few hours of the sun beat ing on this side of the building, I keep the white shades down as soon as the sun hits the windows. Wha t rain on t he east coast? Still none in this north east area.

AMY  still wearing capris here,  too warm even for jeans.

PHYLLIS  I am at the stage I dislike having to go out for any appointments.

My son is on his way up in the elevator for his weekly visit. I look forward to that every week. My other son shows up anytime, maybe twice a week or once every 2 weeks.

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy.

We've been up and attem since 7.  We all sort of slept in this morning!  Christy has chickens and she brought fresh eggs so we had scrambled eggs and toasted english muffins and coffee and OJ for breakfast.

Frankie loaded the recycling in the car and I took it up to the recycling bins and then came back and Christy and Cindy dropped Frankie off at home and then went for a walk in the rain.  I just had a text from Frankie that she's going to make her "trademark chicken" for supper and I can make stuff to go with it.  I'm thinking baked potatoes after all that discussion we had in here about baked potatoes.

Nice to see everyone in here today.  I hope you are all well, better, good or whatever suits you best.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Hello, late getting in here, But three of great grands are doing just fine but the youngest girl is feeling pretty bad. My test was negative. VA is going to bring a bunch of testing equipment to me and set it up where I can test all my breathing and vitals, and send it to VA automatically, and talk to me on skype of what to do. Look like the doctor can test me at home and prescribe what to do with skype at home. what a deal.

Good morning from a still snowless Interior at a warmer 24 degrees. The weather forecasters canceled Sunday's snow forecast.

Farrah is back to her regular patterns. The construction company is finishing some holdovers from other floors so any sounds are muted. I've finished restoring the living room, hallway walk-in, bathroom, and kitchen, leaving only the bedroom and general tidying for today and Sunday. I'm also in the process of three loads of laundry, so it's going to be a busy day.

I've added another item to the list of items I'm finding hard to donate but no longer use. I have several leather totes and black backpacks that I like but don't use and haven't for several years. The others on the list are several scarves and a series of stuffed animals I've had for at least a decade or more. These are either sentimental or part of an old image I have of myself that no longer fits. I'm seemingly unable to take that last step, so there they are put away in a 33-gallon blue tote.   :-[  ::)

Today would have been my mother's 98th birthday, she died in 2000, and the 29th would have been her  75th wedding anniversary. My father died in 1995, he would have been 103 this past July.

Well, we had a 4-person supper.  We stopped at Davy's this afternoon and Cindy bought asparagus.  So Frankie made her trademark chicken, Cindy made asparagus, I made special baked potatoes and Christy made apple crisp for dessert and we all ate until we were full up to the tip-top!  It was delicious

Right now, it's 46º out and heading for a low of 39 overnight.  BRRRRR!!!!  I'm not ready for the 30s!

Today was a good day!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane, I'm enjoying your family with you!

Patricia, I'm glad Farrah is doing so well. Maybe our kids are finally growing up, you think?

Lloyd, good deal the test came back negative & you're getting some home tools from the VA. Will sure help driving on ice this winter!

Gloria, you nailed it "when men hired by women don't do the job hired for". The 3 really bad reviews about this guy (all women) are exactly what he is doing to me. Now I am afraid he won't get the letter I mailed to him, that could have been an old address online. Guess I will call Monday to confirm I do not want him here to mow on Wed. I remember trick or treating as a kid and later when my kids went out, seemed like a crap shoot if we'd be wearing heavy coats & snow boots or not. I think most go to "Trunk or Treat" now, at local churches or other places. I quit opening my door when the "kids" got taller than me, no mask or costume & either pillow case or big brown bag. Had a few young ones that came to the door one year, daylight and parents waited on the street. I enjoyed them but before they got back to their parents some full grown people were at my open door with bags open & I didn't dare not treat with a vehicle in the driveway!

Phyllis, my mother loved squash any which way but it just doesn't work for me (NOT any which way). I've been hungry lately for home cooked but it doesn't always turn out right. Last meal I didn't pay attention to the corn tortillas I was buying, noticed a sign on the shelf that said Gluten free, but didn't pay attention to which stack it meant. I have one gr-daughter that does not eat any gluten but never paid attention to the differences. My daughter explained she had bought noodles & tortillas that were gluten free & ended up tossing both. They got doughy! Down right icky. But I am still eating on that big platter of the cheese enchiladas by dumping a lot of salsa & coarse shredded Tillamook cheese on top. I had a big tub of frozen green chili and another tub of red chili in the freezer so had dumped both of those over the enchiladas before baking, usually so good but this time the doughy tortillas ruined the texture, bet I never make that mistake again!

Amy, the Early Girl tomatoes are still full of tomatoes & blooms but the others need to be taken out.  I'm afraid to pull for fear the roots are tied together & since we don't have any freeze warnings yet, guess I will leave as is. I've read how to store for winter but several ways, do you cover or empty or what?  I sure will be more particular where I buy & what kind of plants I put in next year.

Wow, time for me to shut up & get to bed. It is warmer tonight than all week so cats may stay out. Need to check on them. Sweet dreams & God Bless.  Love ya...

Good morning..
Don't think we had frost but it is chilly....33°.

A day of rest here..may get some sewing done after going
and meeting friends to exchange goodies. They have fresh garlic for us and it is good and strong.

Shirley, the heavy frost we had the other night will sweeten the carrots ,parsnips and brussel sprouts that are still in the garden. Our tomato plants have all been pulled. We learn each year on how to do thing better in the trugs/garden. No need to empty or cover for that matter. I am leaving mine alone and the ones that did have a cover I am leaving on. I can get to those and brush the snow off if it gets too much. Some folks are taking the cover off and putting it in a shed as they can not remove the snow that easy.

Jane, sounds like you had a stone soup meal. Did you do that with your Girl Guides?  I did do baked potato in the air fryer after about 4 min in the micro.....this will be my way to do them from now on. Crispy skin!

Better get ready to head to town.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 37 now and only to to into upper 50's later. Finally feeling more seasonal temperatures.

JANE  what is Frankie's "trademark chicken"? a special way of cooking it? Getting so I do not even know what is in my freezer, Yvette changes things around to get everything in and I cannot reach into the top shelf in there to see what is in there. Yesterday I asked my son to check in there for me. There was 4 packages of chicken leg quarters, put one in the fridge to thaw and had him take the rest home with him. I will bake the chicken along with a potato in my counter oven later. I have already cooked 2 bags of cranberries and have then now in the freezer in small containers but can have some with my chicken today.

LLOYD  wow pretty soon you will stay home and the doctors will know just  how you are feeling with all the tech knowledge these days.

SHIRLEY  I disliked t he big kids coming to the door on Halloween. The people who bought the house next door to us had 2 sons about my 2 ages.  They went back to the city they moved from for trick or treats and want ed to t ake my boys but  I said no. My 3 only wen t to people we knew and always ended a t t heir grandmother's. She had special treats for  the grands. The ones nex t door each took 2 pillow cases and filled both of them. Sorry but to me that was just begging for cavities.

AMY  did not see frost when I looked out earlier but was cold enough for it.

Guess it  is about  time to get my tummy filled with some breakfas t.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This is a shorty because I'm almost ready for church.  Christy is getting ready to go with me.

GLORIA, I really don't know exactly what Frankie's "Trademark Chicken" is.  I know she puts it in a marinade of her own making and then she browns it in a small amount of oil in a frying pan and pours some of the marinade in with it.  It's really good!

Gotta go finish getting ready for church.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good afternoon it Has cooled off to 59º and after the Hard T storms we had a little sun but is over cast and 59º again now.
I watched a show while where they harvested acorns off Of oak trees. they said the white oak trees produced the sweetest nuts. you take the caps off of the aircons and you grained them them In a food grinder and then boil them, and Make a stew. It also said about the Mineral content. I am sure our oldest daughter will try it she is a health nut, with all the old time remote's. Have a good rest of the day see you all tomorrow.

Good morning..

Calling for rain most of the day today. We are off to the city for Kyles blood work then CT scan ..then a week of wait. I have a good feeling that the results from all this will be the oncologist will not want to see him for 5 years.

Yesterday I did sew ,blocks are now all sewn together and now to do the rows and another one off to the quilter.

Jane, Frankie is going to have to give you her special recipe for all of us to try.

Gloria, rain most of the day here which is perfect for driving.  Neighbour is coming over to let the dogs out while we are away so hope it doesn't rain too hard on him.

Patricia, did you get everything back into order or close to it?

Lloyd, we have lots of acorns about. Also have chestnut trees. As a kid we would peel the chestnuts ,poke with a nail and make necklaces out of chestnuts.

Rick, thank you. Hope each day is a bit easier for you and your son.

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good morning everyone. Woke to horrible noise from out side. It was still kind of dark and  thought it was early but it  was almost 8:30. Cloudy and no sun at all. Well the noise is  the landscapers  trimming trees in front of  the building and putting the cuttings  through a chipper. I have h a rd them doing tha t before bu t this morning it sounded much louder, maybe because i t woke me.

JANE  I am always looking for  a new and easy way  to cook chicken but I cannot eat any thing tha t is marinated, some thing in it does not agree with me and I do love the flavor of it .

LLOYD  50 here now and not to get out of the 50s.

Just heard a bang.  They are cutting down the 2  trees in front  of t he building.  Those living in the apartments by them will either be happy to look out or think they will have no shade from the afternoon sun. Odd, the witch always send a notice  to all apart men ts when some thing will be done but not  this time.

AMY  my kids did that with the what are called here -horse chestnuts-. Lot of those trees around but not the kind of chestnuts for people to eat.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning Lloyd, Gloria and Rick, and Amy!

Lloyd, I know what you mean about those bones hollering! Sometimes it takes me seemingly forever to get all the morning stiffness out!

Gloria, when they cut down all the trees on my side in 2020, I thought it looked terrible and felt exposed. Living in an older, industrial part of this city, you need trees to soften the view. One of these days, I'll have to take a few photos from the other side. You see more city buildings and offices while this side looks out on an older part industrial strip before the river's loop.

Rick, I hope all goes well for those with medical issues, particularly MaryPage and Beverly's Chape.

I'm also expecting good things from Jane.

Amy, I'm holding good thoughts for Kyle! I'm optimistic he'll be okay with you in his corner and looking out for him. When I had my colon cancer in 2000, it took seven years to receive the all-clear. If I even sneezed, the insurance company would claim it was a related pre-existing condition.

I finished putting everything back with most of it in new arrangements. I trashed or donated much of what I had stashed in the back corners and my three closets. So for a while, my apartment looks clean and spacious. I never seem to be able to keep it that way!   :-\

Farrah is back to her normal behavior.  She will be affectionate in the mornings until I put out her food. Then she'll look at it and then back at me. I swear Farrah then sighs before eating what I've put out.

Oh, Patricia, I can relate to everything you say today!!!  For sure these cats all gave me "is that all there is?" look just now. Tom & Callie ate but Tiger just walked away. This new hamburger is not to their taste buds. Sam's meat people swear it's the same but can't fool cats! It looks different and texture different. I did fry me a little pat last night & tasted the same to me. I also have the same trouble with keep my place clean, get rid of stuff & first thing I know it's grown new stuff.

I called my nightmare mower this morning, for fear he will deny getting the letter I mailed him. He tried to argue about the damage he did so I told him "I saw", which I did see AFTER it was done. He hung up on me but I did get in "NO MORE MOWING" and "send the bill for the 4 weeks he did mow". The street cleaner came by this morning & had to stop & go in front of my house where he let the grass fall. Should not let it bother me this much but will glad when all over with him. I already paid him the cash for the gutters he didn't clean & what little he did in the berm. I got my new battery powered saw from Amazon (I do have a gas powered chainsaw, but afraid it's out of my league now). This time when I cut them off I will put that stuff on that goes to the roots & kills. If it gets some of the stuff around, so be it. Oh for the times when you could hire people that really knew how to work!

Enough whining, need to get busy, daughter must be getting near Wichita. She called after she got thru KC & said she never saw so many dead deer on the road as this trip. Heard one killed in town this morning as well, so plenty out & about. I'm about to decide I don't need to make one more trip this fall, but I do want that motorhome tank full of gas in case of power out, can always use the generator in it & even drive to some other place to plug in. If the power goes out I can't lift the garage doors to get the car out, they are heavy wood & weigh a ton, I tried one time when I was a few years younger. ;)

Gloria, I think I could settle for seeing the snow on those mountains out my window, what a great choice they made!

Busy week ahead so may not post a lot (awwww... you'll miss me!  :D )

Shirley, have any of yours made a big production of begging? Sometimes they stand on their hind feet with front paws up as a bear does? So you break off a small piece and hold it out for them. The miscreant comes close, makes a big production of sniffing, and then looks up at you with a pitying look before leaving? Cats give attitude!

We had Sunday's promised snow today. The sky is white. However, it's not six inches, more like a quarter inch.

Well, daughter Christy went back to Maryland today and g'daughter, Frankie is sleeping at home tonight with Cooper.  So Cindy and I have the house to ourselves.  She's already in bed and I'm about to hit the haystack.

One more medical item is off the list.  Today we had a visit from a nurse to see if all was well for taking care of a hospital discharged patient when I'm ready to come home.  I think she was impressed to find that I have not just one caretaker but 3 ready and willing to do whatever I need while I'm recuperating.  It's a good feeling!!

GLORIA, I bet that tree trimming got you awake and didn't let you fall back to sleep.  That's noisy work for first thing in the morning!

PATRICIA, nice to have everything back in place and Farrah happy again!

LLOYD, you take care of YOU!

AMY, did I miss the news about KYLE?  Or did I forget I heard it?

I'm off to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Yesterday was a long day a hurry up and wait day but it is all now in the past. Kyle had his blood work and then wait till it was read till they could do the CT scan.  First we met up with Bri, David had found saddle stools on the the internet but the man wanted them to go as a pair..and I now have one. Now when standing cutting all the veggies etc for pickling I can sit.

Will pick up some mushrooms to can today and that should do most of the day in.

Jane, know your back up team is the best! Remember what I said. You have a lot on your plate Jane, Kyle went in for a CT scan then back to the hospital on Fri and when we get the good news you will hear me yell.

Patricia, thank you. Everyone was so nice yesterday, the nurse at the door was a hoot to talk with. Rained some but nothing to worry about. We are to get rain today and there is flood warnings in the city.

Shirley, how can people take good money for a job not well done is beyond me. There must be someone you can get and trust to do a good job. What about approaching someone at your church  or go to a school and ask if anyone wants to do this work.

Gloria, I noticed on our way to the city that some trees still have their leaves not bare like ours here.  Here the tamarack trees are getting ready to shiver their needles off.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up, have my coffee, put the dishes away out of the DW and I'm here.

OK, AMY, I'll wait for the yelling and stomping and all that.  Just didn't want to miss the news!

Today is going to be an off day for me.  Cindy will be at her "on-line" office for part of it and she's also having lunch with one of her old school friends.  I'm pretty sure Cooper will be here sometime today but I'm not sure when so I'll just take it easy and wait for him to arrive.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, well we are having rain- the first nor'easter of the season. Local weather guessers finally mentioned this yesterday. Strong winds and up to 4 inches of rain and possible power outages but mostly along the shoreline. Once again I am happy  to be living as far inland from the ocean as can be in this state.  52 now and top for the day will be 60. The maples are finally showing red all the way down now, hope when the sun shines again the wind has not blown most of the leaves off.

LLOYD  hope those aches and pains ease up as you get up and move around. In damp weather like we are having now my back is one big pain that nothing helps.

PATRICIA  a few years ago when they cut down the beautiful huge pine trees in the back it  looked so bare but  now it is a beautiful lawn and they set up a crochet (SP) set that a few enjoy. The landscapers are no t happy though, they have  to pick up the hoops every week before they cut the grass. The 2 trees they just cut down blocked windows on 6 apartments and I know a couple of t he ladies miss looking ‌ out t heir windows and seeing even the cars.

SHIRLEY  I do know Regina and Gary are very happy where they live now in Arizona. She often said she was born in the wrong century and would have loved being a pioneer. Well when they first moved there they did not have all the conveniences like electricity, used propane for jus  about everything. Now t hey finally have  the solar panels set up and after a year of waiting for the batteries  to be delivered  they have electricity. First thing she did was have a  toasted English muffin. She did miss her toaster. Now you know you are missed when we do not  hear from you every day.

PATRICIA  when it came to driving in snow I would rather drive in 6 inches of it than half an inch. Can get traction on more snow instead of a little slippery snow.

JANE  you did a wonderful job raising you children for then to be t here when you really need them. I know my 3 would be here if needed and one DIL would be, too.

AMY  hi when you get here.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good morning from an Interior at 27 degrees. We're expecting another 0.6 inches tonight and tomorrow to go with our quarter of an inch from yesterday. Many of our trees still have their leaves. This is another crazy weather month for us. However, I have no room to talk after watching the news on the computer yesterday and seeing both coasts and the middle experiencing horrible weather on top of what they've already experienced.

Other than general tidying, I have a day of rest.

Jane, I'm happy that you have family close; it makes a difference.

Gloria, when they cut the trees down here, they put in a lawn, but that's it. I'd rather have the trees than our view of a parking lot. Before we had the snow, the ground was frozen from rain and slush. The news was asking everyone to stay home if possible. November will be our twentieth month under total lockdown, so there are not many places to visit other than groceries and a few essential businesses.

Amy, locally everyone is rushed and brusque.  You're made to feel you're keeping them from something important. I'm glad you and Kyle had caring people at his appointments. Our trees are about half and half regarding keeping leaves.

We have many people here pinning up notes in stores and lobbies offering all sorts of services from outdoor maintenance, pet walking to housekeeping and cooking. There is a man in our building offering deep cleans to those facing bi-yearly inspections. I've thought about calling him to see if he'd include putting shelves together or putting my rug cleaner together.

Rain, flooding, and gale force winds expected tonight.  Many are just finishing recovery from the last "Water Event". Should be better tomorrow, but it's cool/nasty out now. Several roadways shut down - same ones that flooded the last time. They've been that way since I was a teen aged driver.  Try as they will they don't seem to be able to prevent it.

Good afternoon not much going in here today. Nancy got up before I did and hulled the walnuts. after our noon meal we both set down and worked on them I cracked them with the nut cracker ( we have one mounted on a board 2x6x2ft long.)  and we both picked the meat out we have quit for today, but we got just short of one quart of nut meats so far, will most likely do some more tomorrow. Life is good when we set down and work together like that. hope to see you all tomorrow.

Patricia, don't see ANYone wanting to work here, just "Hiring" signs in windows. I've now paid twice to get my gutters cleaned without getting the job done right.

Tonight I was looking out the window I saw my son's car coming around the corner just about dark. He heard we were going to get a gully washer tonight so cleaned his own gutters & came over to do mine (front & back). He ran a "snake" down each downspout & made sure they were cleared & in the back where it was worse, he found one plugged so tight when he tried to get the snake down it wouldn't go so he used a long stick to push it out. Was still water from the last rain that came out. I knew it was not running at all during the rain.

So while he was at it he washed the spiders off the whole back of the house (I have good lights all around & it is white brick so easy to see). Bless his heart, juggling 4 jobs he still has time to help me, not bad for someone retired!

His sister gave him a lecture about not wanting me to pay them, told him it makes ME feel better! I sure appreciate getting a job done right. She is coming over tomorrow after I get back from my Echo & visit with my cardio buddy that is retiring, & plans to help organize my desk. I have several sets of files I've been trying to organize & can't find time to finish the job so hopefully she will catch my duplicate files!

LLoyd, growing up in MO we always went out to gather walnuts in the fall. Dad rigged up several ways to get the hulls off & then would set his big metal lathe to hold each nut, give it a crack & the nutmeat would come out whole. Once he planted his own walnut tree he shared with the squirrels, he'd save them a bushel basket full for the winter & they would help themselves. As "they say", walnuts are good for us. Cas & I always had out best conversations when we worked together like that.

Rick, I hadn't listened to our weather today but did hear about the coasts on both sides getting hit hard. Radar showing we have two bands working toward us right now. Tom (cat) went out for a few minutes & came back in, sleeping by my feet. He hates storms. Tiger is out looking around, she has been in all day. Callie is in the garage, we can't talk about the damage she is doing to the garage, but she just doesn't understand & can't teach an old cat new tricks, either! Stay safe!

Amy, I've never heard of "saddle stools" before so will Google. After Cas died I moved a tall bar stool (no back) to the corner of the kitchen by the stove & to the left I put an under counter TV so spend a lot of time there (eating-snacking) The bar stool is tall & don't like my feet dangling so got out my little Coleman step stool I keep for the kitchen, just have it opened to put my feet on & don't have to drag it out when I want something from that top shelf! It's convenient!

Gloria, I don't know if I mentioned in my last post (too lazy to go back & look), but was smiling about Regina saying she was born a century too late, she'd have been a good pioneer. And that's how I feel when driving thru the Flint Hills going across Kansas.  I picture the wagon trains struggling to get across those rolling hills and the many dry creek beds made from "gully washers" when it rains. I would have loved being one of those pioneer women & think I could have pulled my weight. I would have griped the whole time it was hot & dry, for sure, picture it???  I did do a painting one time from a photo I took out the car window... put the wagon trains in and it sold immediately.

Janie, you are keeping busy with all your family, do you stop a dozen times a day & think what a great job you did raising those kids?  For true (remember little Margaret O'Brian saying that in a movie?), you did a wonderful job or those kids wouldn't have those big hearts.

Got a couple bites of food to eat so I can clean up the kitchen & go to bed. Have to get up & stay up in the morning, to shower, wash my hair & get across town by 10:00am. I stopped eating to see if cats wanted in or out, phone rang & I got on the computer & will have to re-heat those few bits. Need to open some V8 'cause I didn't eat veggies today (except potatoes).

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

Good Morning Everyfriend.  I'm up and attem!  Cooper is here for the day and Cindy is on line with her job already.

SHIRLEY, I thank God for whatever it was that helped my kids to turn out the way they did.  And I bet you do, too.  Can't think who might come clean gutters in the dark and keep at it until they are clear.  You also did something right along the way!

JACKIE, that much have been a hard decision to make and only YOU can make the right one for YOU!  You know who you are and what you need!

LLOYD, keep up the good work on the walnuts!  You're going to enjoy them in whatever they show up in this winter

GLORIA, I hope your eyes feel better the the next time you open them.  That's no fun!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  Our temps are hanging in the 40s and 50s with rain but today is supposed to be sunny!  Do you think God did that for the outside Farmers Market?

Good morning everyone, 27 degrees, and the expected snow never arrived. This wasn't the case last year when we had record early snowstorms that were more accurately snow dumps!

Shirley, the construction company, certainly didn't do their jobs here. I'm Monday morning quarterbacking, but you can see instances of running paint dribbles on many balcony floor edges from when they painted the balcony floors, and they messed up on ordering doors twice and had to send the mistakes back and reorder. They said they were going floor by floor and ended up going back and redoing places.

You can see on my balcony a ten-inch spot where they taped the wood sheets together before painting and I had to call maintenance because one vertical blind fell off in the living room, and the bedroom window has a thick plastic type of weatherstripping? It has one carpet tack in the center on each side, and both ends are coming away from the window. And a much bigger problem to me is that the promised sliding glass door screens never showed up and will be a summer issue with mosquitoes and other flying pests.

However, complaints aren't encouraged by the management of these state-owned buildings. We were better off private, and the manager wasn't happy when I inquired if we were now public housing? I should quit complaining or, as my father used to say, belly-aching because we receive a lot of services at a lower price than at other complexes in the city.

Gosh, time flies!! Been a busy two days and I am more than willing to put my feet up!
Yesterday was run into town twice, pick up items then back in when a store opened to get ink. Home and started cutting up mushrooms to can (take goodness for the saddle stool!) Canned 13 jars of mushrooms and did more laundry.

I am surprised that Kyle didn't poke me to see if I was still living! Slept in and hit the floor a running, he wanted to go to the hardware store and I hit a grocery store to pick up more items for us and for others. Home I put a huge roasting pot of beef barley soup on to cook then canned it. Good eats for the winter time.

Jane, nice to have Cindy and Cooper there for company. :)

Patricia, talked to a worker today and she was telling me about a man that was rude and yelling at her for no reason. What is wrong with people??

Shirley, this stool is so comfy......similar to the seat on a saddle and perfect for working at the counter. Never thought I would sit and chop vegetables but that sure changed my mind.

Phone lines are out here.......have been for most of the day....quiet:) I worry about those that need help and can't phone out for it.

Gloria, hope your eyes feel a lot better now. A warm tea bag on your eyes might help?

Enjoy your evening and stay safe.

I'm heading for the haystack in a few minutes.  Cindy took her book and went in there a little while ago.  I finished watching my show, locked up, set the coffee pot to turn on in the morning and now I'm checking out with my friends.

I hope your ears haven't been burning on here because I've been quoting all you to my kids as much as I've been telling you about them.  They love hearing all the things we discuss and about our similarities and dissimilarities.  We all have a lot of things alike but we are also all very different and that's the best thing about this place.  We can still be friends!

Guess I better get to the haystack before my eyes enter slam shut mode.  I'm really tired today and I have to make a dr. appt. tomorrow afternoon.  It's just over at the local clinic and it has nothing to do with the upcoming surgery.  I just have to go see about some things.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Putting away the equipment used for canning plus label and put the jars away . Callies domestic duties need to be done also. A trip later to town to pick up ink for the printer and that is it. If I have time I can sew..

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The temp right now is 43º and heading for a high of63.  No rain predicted for today but Friday and Saturday are both supposed to be wet.

LLOYD, good deal on the black walnuts.  You reminded me that there used to be a black walnut tree in the yard where my parents lived and my dad would collect them and pile them in the alley behind the storehouse and after a few cars drove over them, he would collect them and save whatever were left for my mother's Christmas fruit cakes.  I never liked black walnuts and I think it was mostly because they are so hard to shell.

AMY, good the phones are back and it sounds like you have a BUSY day planned!

I have to take Cooper for a little walk and then get my shower and get ready for my dr. appt.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Back from town ,when we went through the through at Timmies our order was paid for!! The young man in the vehicle ahead of us had paid for our order! Caught up to him at a stop light, ran up to his vehicle and thanked him.
Forgot to say, yesterday when on the fly I always go to the garden to pick the strawberry blossoms off , on the way back to the house I heard a sound and thought goodness a sick goose!
In a bit I saw what had made the sound as others in were also making it...trumpeter swans ..five of them flew overhead!! Beautiful to see...

Good morning every one. Well my eyes feel better this morning, thank God for that. I sent the cna for new eye drops and they seemed  to help better than what I had, too old maybe? Kept welting a face cloth with warm water and holding it  over my eyes yesterday and that felt good. I did watch part of the news at 6 last evening, lot of trees down in that storm but mostly in south county here, that is along t he shore not  here inland. Trees uprooted and falling on houses and cars. No power loss here. Most people get their electricity from National grid but this part of town has it's own power and seldom ls without.  45 now and will be in the 30's tonight. No sun peeking  through clouds, just a gray sky this AM.

We had the manager and maintenance man come through our apartments getting ready for the big wigs to come and inspect them. I can no longer have the chair by my bed t o sit on  to ge t dressed. Where else can I sit  to dress? Bed is  too high  to si t on. I asked him why and he said it is because if I fell out  of bed I would not be able to reach  the pull cord for help. I wear a life line around my neck  that will alert if I fall. The chair has been there since I moved here now this new maintenance man says that is a no no. I think he must have a brown nose. The witch said I have  too much food in  the freezer and  the cold air cannot circulate. Now cannot  cook and freeze a meal for when I have no one here to cook.Wonder what next she can find to complain about.

Oh well I better stop complaining, at least I don' t have  to try going up and down stairs anymore.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Gloria, tell the witch you are prepared for a power outage . When products are low/unavailable in the stores to buy,you will have food to eat.

A freezer or refrigerator will stay colder, longer, if it's full during a power outage. The fuller it is, the more cold "mass" inside. The more mass, the longer it will stay cold. It's simply an important concept to understand. If you know your chest freezer is full, it's definitely going to stay frozen for a lot longer.

A good Thursday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND‼️

I have not been able to type for nearly a week, and it has been very frustrating.  I did something to my good shoulder so have been laying low.  Not sure if I over did it in the pool, but it has really been miserable.  My new shoulder can do more than this one can. It aches so bad at night that I can not sleep😩.

Our youngest son and his doodle dog should be driving into ther new home right about now.  The city by the bay‼️ He lucked out with weather issues so it has been a good drive for him.  Of course Ma and Pa have been on edge, waiting for his calls to tell us where he is.

I am going to try the pool today.....of course I plan to be very careful and take it very easy!  I have not been since last Friday, nor have I been out of the house.  Ugh😩

I apologize for not commenting on your personal posts.  There is plenty I wanted to comment on, believe me.

I just wish you all the best.

If the cold air flow is blocked by food packages being too restrictive, the area may not stay cold enough.  Hope I said that in an understandable manner. The instructions I got with my top freezer fridge warn about blocking air circulation in the freezer compartment.

Hello you all!  What Rammel said is what I've been taught to observe all my grown up life.  My Father-in-Law opened a TV and appliance store when my husband and I were seniors in high school and we've been associated with kitchen appliances all our life.  You did good explaining that, Rammel.

JENNY, I hope all goes well at the pool tomorrow. And I hope your "other" shoulder behaves and stops giving you trouble.  You've had enough of thatQ

Now I've off to the haystack.  My granddaughter came up from West Chester, PA to spend the weekend with her mother and me.  She is my OK daughter's daughter and is taking advantage of having her mother close enough to drive here to visit her.  Seems like they have all kinds of plans for tomorrow.  Some of them include me and some don't.

My dr. visit today seems to have been a success.  We'll see tomorrow.  And now, I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Somewhere today I posted a few thoughts but sure don't know where. At the time I had just finished touching up the text/size & color when my daughter came in. Could be I didn't double check & someone else posted quicker.

Anyway, saved y'all from a lengthy story so the condensed version is that my trip to the cardio doc that is retireing has me all shook up (song in there). Seems this pig valve needs to be replaced soon, at least before the first of the year. I am not happy about this, was expecting 15 years & hoped a new valve being tested would be ready when I need. I know they use this TVAR all the time but so far I'm not getting straight answers about how long they last and how they replace them. Besides that, this is the procedure that killed my brother a year ago.

Had a call from the office with appointment for more tests & chat with the surgeon but not until the last week of Nov. I will talk myself in & out a dozen times by then. I am mostly playing Erma Bombeck, remember how she couldn't die because her closets needed cleaning?  Well, I have a whole house that needs cleaning out!

My brain has already gone to sleep so the rest of me needs to get jammies on & close the peepers. Saw all 3 of my kids today, doesn't get any better than that. Sweet dreams to all.

Good morning

Cloudy today starting with a temp of 33° to a high of 52°.We are off to the city  in a bit. Will  meet up with the kids, then onto the hospital then home.

Shirley, not the news you wanted to hear. Remember procedures /techniques have changed for the better in that time span. Don't compare yourself to your brother you are unique in yourself, ask a lot of questions and run it by your kids for their input.

Need to get my city duds on..

Take care and stay safe.

Good morning everyone 38 now here and on TV it says 42 but the "official" temperature comes from the airport that is closer to the ocean, always different in the  50 mile difference. Cloudy sky again.

AMY  I kept telling Yvette that the freezer was too full. the part where the unit is the freezer is in on the back wall right in the middle instead of on a back corner and for the first time I noticed that some of the freezer containers I have in there are get ting frost on the outsides, never had that happen before. Being full is one  thing and being over stuffed is another. When I give her a list for the market I  tell her  to jus t ge t wha t I have on t he list but she will buy t hings on sale even if I already have  tha t item in the freezer and it is more than I can eat, much less what  I can cook. She ge ts  TV dinners for me and I do not  like them and she said she  thought I might like because  they were a new or different one that I never had. I give her enough money and a bit  more in case she needs it  but she will spend all of it.

JENNY  not easy typing wi th one hand but I learned how  to do it wi th my lef t hand when I had my right shoulder replaced. Of course took longer to type.

RAMMEL  I understood what you said but I cannot get  the CNA to understand  that. It is hard for me  to see into the freezer or reach up into it to move things around. I am short-getting shorter all the  time ;) with a left arm/shoulder I cannot reach up into it.

JANE  how great  that mother and daughter will get a chance to get together.  At leas t these days it is easier to keep in touch than it  was 100+ years ago.

SHIRLEY  seems to me that no doctors give a direct  answer to any question I ask. I really wish I could find an old time General Practioner like we had before they all became specialists.

Think I will go have my coffee and breakfast and get ready for the day.
Have a good day and be safe.

Guten Morgan everyone!
Shirley,  so sorry to hear
that you have to go in to get
your pig valve replaced.
And that you have to wait so long
before getting it done.

I agree with Amy.  We live
in a different era now when
procedures,  even major ones,
are getting better and easier.

Best wishes.
Today I am going over to
view some lots at the cemetery
that is right across the street
from my daughter Kelly's
house!!!

I received a very generous
"GIFT" from  dear friends
of mine which has made
it possible for me
to get my final resting place
in order.

It is a substantial
but unexpected gift and I am
going to follow through with
their wish for me to get
things settled in the
"what to do with Mom"
department, ( after I
depart)!  Hopefully not
for years to come!!

These things are hard to talk
about so now I am going to
shut up and get ready for my
trip to "forever land".

Good morning; it is 18 degrees this morning, and we have freezing fog with people asked to take care being out today. The weather hasn't warmed up for snow, and we may have our third ice storm in recorded history if this remains the same.

Regarding doctors, insurance companies rule, and most doctors are hesitant to say anything for fear of being sued and having their rates go up.

We're having our Covid boosters on the third. I don't know if they will be Moderna as the previous ones or a mixture with Pfizers as some have received. They will be going floor by floor as they did with the first two shots via the local Public Health Center. We're asked to sit just outside our apartments, and three people come by with a medical cart—two for the booster and one to watch over you for 15 minutes for any severe reaction.

At the same time, the Fire Department is going to each apartment to test our sprinkler systems and fire alarms as well as the biyearly replacement of our fire extinguishers. To further add to a busy day, the third is when many go out to purchase cashier checks for that month's rent fee. It's going to be a hectic and interesting day.

I settled my final disposition, so to speak, after my daughter's 1991 death. There will be no funeral, I will be cremated, and my remains will be placed in a local Episcopal church's sacristy next to my daughter's. This is something they've done since the early nineteen hundreds, and Farrah or any other foster I might have at the time will be returned to Pet Pride.

Nasty day here weather-wise. Temp's just around 55° F but very damp and windy. Bone chilling as the old phrase went.
Ventured out for my Flu Shot, which this year was a problem. I went for it yesterday but the big name drug store couldn't get it's system to take my insurance info.  Called Aetna this morning and they contacted the "BNS" (big name store) and filled them in on how to do it. That's one thing out of the way for now.  Next, at the end of the month is the Covid Booster.  They want the full six Months between.
Now to do some bill paying and get the legal stuff started.

Keep warm, and healthy, everyone.

Good Evening, Soda Shoppers,

This morning was "leisurely" but the pace picked up after lunch.  I went to do a couple of errands and came home to several phone messages that needed to be returned and some texts that needed replies.  Then my Shipt "shopper" texted about my order at the same time my neighbor texted to ask a question.  Did pretty well juggling between the two without telling neighbor what to substitute for something the store was out of or giving shopper information she would have no idea what to do with.  :D
Had just settled into the recliner when a friend called to say she wanted to drop by and bring me a Halloween treat.
Used to be really good at multi-tasking but now something like this is more than this ole gal can handle at one time  :crazy2:

HOORAY FOR KYLE AND AMY!  Great news!!!!

Shirley, you are YOU and need to stop thinking about all the problems others had!  (Mama sez :-* )

Janie, I'm so very happy that your Oklahoma folks are with you. (Have forgotten when your surgery is scheduled).

Rammel, thanks a lot for reminding me about bill paying.  :shakehead:  I was doing a pretty good job avoiding that but now s'pose I could do some of it now. <sigh>

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

hELLO Y'ALL!  We had a pretty good day today.  The weather didn't cooperate though.  It started raining around 8;3 and then kept it up for the rest of the day and is still coming down.  It's supposed to rain all night and most of tomorrow.  Makes for a bone chilling day!

My daughter and granddaughter took me to HOME GOODS today and I spent a small fortune.  I've been looking for new curtains for the living room, a rug for the kitchen, some new sofa pillows and a pair of warm slippers for the winter.  I found it all plus some really pretty Christmas gift bags and some pretty Christmas pot holders.  I spent a small fortune but they promised to return anything I didn't like.  I liked it all!

I made Pennsylvania Dutch (my grandfather's recipe) for supper and Frankie also stayed.  It was great and we ate until we were stuffed.  This is NOT a pie.  It's cooked in a pot.

Then the kids (from Cindy down) met other friends at the local Legion for something or other and Cooper and I stayed home, cleaned up the kitchen and rested.  Now my eyes have entered slam shut and I'm heading for the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Thank you all for the concern, I'm finding quite a few excuses to NOT be rushed into this, I do know it not without risks after losing a brother to the same procedure in the last year.

On the bright side: YEA!!! for Kyle & Amy!

Hum, just lost half my post when I tried to copy... never had that happen before. Sleep is taking over to better go get horizonal.  Sweet dreams & God Bless.........

Good Morning Everyfriend!  At the moment, it's not raining but more is predicted for today.  And the temp is not going up much.  I haven't checked what it is but I'm cold so it must be cold and damp out there.

SHIRLEY, I'm sure you'll make the right decision.  You're a smart lady and you have a loving and caring family around you.  I know it's hard to make a life-threatening decidion because I'm right in the middle of one!  But we do what we must!  God be with you!

We all sort of slept in this morning.  I woke up and checked the clock and it was 7:35!  I was up and had my coffee in hand when Cindy came out of her room.  When she was in the kitchen, Courtney hit the floor!  so we are all on the move now.  Courtney wants to make a trip to Davy's this morning so I'll be showering and dressing very soon.  I'm not sure when she wants to go.  She said she's leaving for home either early evening or in the morning so I'm guessing this morning would be good to go there.

Good morning JACKIE and whoever else shows up today.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

JANE  glad your girls are keeping you busy so you don't have time to worry. Worrying never helped anything.

AMY  BEST NEWS FOR KYLE AND YOU  about the  no cancer.

RAMMEL  heard yesterday that  now  they want another booster shop later. Starting to look like they will want  another shot every couple of months. We will all be looking like pin cushions.

CALLIE  I gave up multi tasking about  the time I moved here.

SHIRLEY  you worry too much. "Slow down and smell the flowers"  as  that told saying goes. Worrying does not  change the outcome of anything.

Time to go get my breakfast, tummy is yelling at me that it  needs filling.

Have a good day, keep dry and be safe.

Good Morning JACKIE and everyone who arrives later.  It's going to be a busy morning today.  Courtney is leaving this morning for West Chester, PA where she lives while going to school for her Doctor's degree.  She said she was planning on 7 a.m. "or so" so I'm not sure when that will be.  She's not up yet!  I have to be to church at 10 a.m. and I don't know if Cindy is planning to go along or not.  And I don't know what the rest of the day will bring.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jackie, I do believe your wet stuff is wetter than our wet stuff... at least it seemed so when we lived there!  I smile when reading your posts, how much happier you seem in the new place.

Amy, we had a rooster across the street & one next door that came as babies and neither one had a clue they were only supposed to crow first thing in the morning. I loved hearing them but not supposed to have a rooster in town so the first one was "sent away" and the last one got mean when his spurs started growing so HE got "put away". Not sure how it happened & didn't want to know. I happen to love chickens & all the sounds they create so I wasn't one to complain. (Such a good feeling to think how relieved you two are this morning.)

Got the cats fed & Tom wanted to go outside. Tom slept in my bedroom last night & Tiger came to the door crying because she was lonely (she had gone downstairs to sleep last night). Callie has been confined to the garage unless I'm right with her when she comes in to eat. Sure has been a lot nicer for my floors. She never has completely figured what those litter boxes are for so too many OOPS happenings. I do feel so bad about it but just can't train an old cat.

Moving along, got to grab a bite to eat & dress for church. One of my greats was exposed to Covid at school so during the 10 days of being tested I won't get near her but think they will be at church & McDonalds for our Sunday routine. Every school day any kid that has been exposed must  report at 7:00 am to be tested for 10 days before being allowed back in class. Not sure how many have actually been sick with Covid here, but keeping everyone in an uproar.

Love to stay & visit but gotta rush now.......have a great day, even a "Sthupper Sunday", huh, Callie?  ;)

You snuck in, Janie, busy world right now, enjoy & God Bless

Good morning..

Another wet one here but warm temp is 44°. Having kids come later today for a visit after closing up the cottage for the winter.

Shirley, I love listening to the roosters  no matter what time, especially when they are first learning how to crow.

Jane, enjoy your time with Courtney before she leaves.

Where is Lloyd?? Hope all is well with you and Nancy.

Phyllis, I have a new IP recipe to try out  and will post if it passes the taste test.

Better get...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 7:30 and  54 and still raining, looks like more of a mist though from in here. The witch would scream at me if she saw how high I have the thermostat but all this dampness penetrates the walls and right to these old bones and flesh. Wish there was a way to replace the back like they did my shoulder. So tired of not being able  to stand on my own or even stand up straight with my rollator. Enough complaining about things I cannot change.

Anyone heard of Huggy Pup? Just saw a commercial about it. A stuffed puppy for your dog who dislikes/afraid of thunder and lightening to hug, has a heat pad in it and also a heart beat.

AMY  I try to make sure I have no dirty dishes when my son comes on Saturday mornings so he does not feel he has to wash them. He always is looking for something to help me with but with his lazy wife and daughter he has enough at home. Even Yvette comes back from the market with things not  on my list that I did not want. No room in here to store anything and she keeps saying in a box under the bed. Who will get it out? I sure cannot.

JACKIE  my inner clock used to wake me at 4:30 in the morning for a long time after I retired. Does not do that  anymore and now that the days are getting shorter I have been waking later every day.

SHIRLEY  hope your grand does not come down with the covid.

Getting hungry so will go make my breakfast.
Have a good day and stay safe.

:broomstick: Happy Halloween! :witch:

It's sunny but the temperature is 46º.  I agree, Jackie -  "Tis a puzzlement" what to wear these days!!!!

Just finished "going" to church via Facebook live video.  I miss being there in person but the logistics of maneuvering my walker in and out and around the people - plus hearing issues - make it more of an effort than I'm willing to try....yet.

Yes, as Shirley says I say  :D  "Have a "Thuper Thunday".

H A P P Y  H🎃A🎃L🎃O🎃W🎃E🎃E🎃N  EVERYFRIEND, from a gray looking Colorado 🎃

YIPPEE KYLE and AMY‼️ So very happy to hear your news.  FANTASTIC 🥰🥰

I thank all of you for your kind compliments about my good shoulder ISSUE!  It is doing better but I am using it very gingerly, hoping to help it heal and become useable again🤪. I did go to the pool and moved as much as I could without doing too much‼️  My rotator cuff is torn in my good arm, so I guess it just flairs up when I use it too much😡. I am quite certain when I fell that I damaged both shoulders /rotator cuffs as they were just fine before‼️😡. Both arms were extended straight out in front of me when I was flat on the ground. Surgeon said, after MRI on good arm that it would more than likely need replaced down the road😩😩.

We got our Moderna Vaccine by walking into our local grocery store pharmacy.  It was so good to get it done and no sore arm for either of us😘

SANDY, how nice to read your post.....thankful for your friends that have allowed you the ability to move on with your after life here on earth plans❣️

JACKIE, they say that the third time is the charm, so unless I forgot one, this WAS your third move‼️. I am so happy for you that you have joined thi fine church group and you are happy.  You certainly deserve this🥰

Our son and doodle arrived at ther new home safely and are getting settled in.  One less worry for mama😘

Other son and family are packing up and will be in Colorado around the 7th of November.

JANE, so happy for you as I read about the goings on with your girls there visiting with you!  I know this waiting time is hard.....so please know that I am holding the most positive thoughts and saying prayers for you🥰🥰

SHIRLEY, I am sorry your doc has you ALL SHOOK UP"‼️  I know well how you feel about being pushed into things that you are not comfortable with, and rightfully so!  That being said, I pray our Good Lord will help guide you to make the best decision for YOU.  WE WANT YOU AROUND for a good time to come..... I hope you and MARYPAGE will both be able to celebrate that 100th Birthday AND Ihope I am here to see it🥰🥰🥰

CALLIE, I am going to my recliner for my in home church service as soon as I post this!

Days like today are TOUGH on our Dr. Dave and Family. Michele always made her special Mac and cheese for Halloween Dinner before they headed out to trick or treat😩😩. Matthew's first Home Coming Dance when all the moms and dads were there taking pictures before the kids took off for their dinners before the dance. Today, when Daddy Dave is with Kate for this weekend dance competition at a hotel, when all the rest of the girls have their mom's😩😩

It has taken me forever to peck my way through this post and I am DONE FOR!

Enjoy your day EVERYFRIEND‼️

Jenny

So much to tell you but will start with:  Lloyd called and asked me to tell y'all that he has computer problems, actually it is internet problems. They bought a "hot spot" but have not figured how to use it (and I was no help!) He will get back when he can, but they are okay & send love to everyone.

The sun is bright & wind blowing as usual. My pool area is covered with leaves of all kinds (mostly from trees I don't have). Thank goodness the pool is covered so I will get out the blower when wind is in right direction. Sometimes the wind is stronger than my blower & comes right back at me.  Oops, gotta run, neighbor needs something.

Kids just left a while ago to head home. The look on the granddaughters face was priceless when Grandpa gave her the cabin.FULL of chocolate and a bit of green to spend :)

Jenny, your both arms must be so sore! Kyle can't have surgery on his shoulders ,the Dr said it would be like sewing up butter. Hope you soon get some relief from the pain.

Shirley, thank you for telling us about Lloyd, noticed he was missing and that is just not like him. Shirley. I went out and saw the hen scratching in our yard back where all the wood is. Maybe she was looking for bugs but I went and got some corn....now she will have better scratching...shhhh :)
