A mature person is one who does not think only in absolutes, who is able to be objective even when deeply stirred emotionally, who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and in all things, and who walks humbly and deals charitably with the circumstances of life, knowing that in this world no one is all knowing and therefore all of us need both love and charity.
-Eleanor Roosevelt, diplomat and writer (11 Oct 1884-1962)

Those Were The Days (Theme to All In The Family)
Songwriters: Charles Strouse / Lee Adams

Boy, the way Glen Miller played.
Songs that made the Hit Parade.
Guys like us, we had it made.
Those were the days

Didn't need no welfare state.
Everybody pulled his weight
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days

And you knew where you were then
Girls were girls and men were men.
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.
People seemed to be content.
Fifty dollars paid the rent.
Freaks were in a circus tent.
Those were the days

Take a little Sunday spin,
Go to watch the Dodgers win.
Have yourself a dandy day
That cost you under a fin.
Hair was short and skirts were long.
Kate Smith really sold a song.
I don't know just what went wrong
Those Were the Days

Great text & graphics.... and one of my favorites, "Those Were the Days"... title to the "book" my mother wrote of her early life. Interesting quote from Elenore Roosevelt, for some reason I always felt she had a hard, unloved life. Thanks, Bubble.

Good morning, Jackie... I am up too early so will go back to bed. The furnace is set too hot for sleeping so threw the covers off & thinking my day ahead. Had a busy day yesterday, neighbor's son was happy to take down the large BirdView satellite dish & I gave him boxes full of all equipment that my husband had bought to go with it (remote control, lots of parts & pieces).

Gloria, are you eating any home grown veggies or fruit? I'm not seeing any for sale like other years (signs in the yards). When does the best oranges come out of FL? I thought this was the time people picked ripe. Never saw any orchards advertising to come pick apples & peaches this year. Plenty of pumpkin patches for the little ones. Has not been a normal year, for sure.  Guess I'll have to be patient, just Googled & a little early.

Wishing all a marvelous Monday.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Got up to 48º and had a low in the mid 30s.  Frankie's remark when she dropped off Cooper this morning..."Boy! it's cold out there!"  She's right but it's gonna get a lot colder!

BUBBLE, thanks for the redecoration of our Soda Shoppe!  You always do such a good job!  i'm one of those who connects with "Those were the days" too!  Everything was entertaining or thought-provoking!

JENNY, thanks for the thoughts.  I keep you in my thoughts, too and I pray that your shoulders with both be giving you good service.

LLOYD, hurry back!  We all miss you!

I have to go look for the directions for my countdown to surgery.  I have a bunch of drinks in the fridge that I have to start soon and I can't find the directions that came with them.  I guess I'll have to go on line and check if they're in my file.  With only a week to go, I'm thinking I might be required to start them this week.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

BUBBLE  loved your lilac graphic. When I see them blooming in the spring I know arm weather is on the way, love the fragrance, too.

SHIRLEY  gardens are all put t o bed for winter around here. Don't have any idea about Florida oranges, I only like the Sunkist ones from the west coast.

Good Night!  Sweet Dreams!  I'm heading for the haystack in a little bit!  I haven't been getting my afternoon naps these days and I miss them.  Today, Christy and her hubby were here for a bit.  They came up from Maryland to get a new clothes dryer from her brother's store.  And they stopped here to visit and wait for Frankie to get off work.  I don't know if they're back home yet or not.  They were supposed to text me when they got there and my phone died just about the time they were supposed to get home.

PATRICIA, thank you for the good thoughts.  I need all I can get.  The closer this surgery gets, the more nervous I get!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Now I know I am awake too early this morning. Only a few posts since I was here yesterday. Maybe woke so early to be ready when maintenance and someone to check the sprinkler system will be here today.  Maintenance will also check to see if we made changes he recommended since the inspection. I have a chair next to the bed where I sit to get dressed, he wants it out of there because if I fell out of bed I would be unable to reach the emergency cord. I could reach it but then I also have a lifeline  that will pick up a fall, too. Witch complained in a note to all of the tenants that there have been to many emergency calls and this company has to pat  for all the trips the rescue truck comes the 1 mile here from the station and we should use our own lifelines or call 911. I cannot get dressed sitting on the bed, too high, or standing up. This place is getting worse buy the day lately.

There I go complaining again, sorry.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

Good morning..

Yesterday was a busy but perfect day. After we got rid of leaky lip coffee pot in exchange for a new one we or rather I hit the stores. Two grocery stores to get what I wanted, one chocolate store which was a we not I and one quilt store and that was just me! Picked up the panel of the puppies and co0ordinating fabric, now to finish the last top for cancer quilts and do this one. Then we headed for home after having lunch . Weather was misty rain in places but nothing to worry about, unpacked the vehicle and just having our tea when the clouds opened up and down it came, rain at first then snow!! That was perfect timing on our part.

Today, I am not so sure would like to can the 20 lbs of potatoes I picked up yesterday but we shall see.

Patricia, thank you. It was nice to just go,not have an appointment to be at a certain place and time.

Gloria, people like your witch should all be housed in one place then they can drive each other crazy.

Jane, we get to look forward and enjoy those little cat naps. Remember what June said... give your worries to God, He is up all night anyway.

Callie.. :cup:

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from the Interior at 27 degrees. There is still no snow, we missed two snow due dates, and it warmed up to melt the ice over the weekend. Our usual winter snow date is by Halloween, and we had earlier light snow that didn't last. I wonder if it will be similar to 2010 when we had our first recorded ice storm, and people joked about clearing their driveways with a tablespoon.

I envy those who can nap during the day. I have trouble sleeping, waking up every couple of hours on a good night. If I sleep during the day, I stay awake during the night, and it may take a week to get back to my "normal" sleeping habits.

Gloria, we have both our maintenance and fire extinguisher and alarm system tests on the third. We also have our booster shots scheduled for that day.

Our manager rarely says anything about maintenance other than to remind us to call them and not her. We have a state answering service to call, and they relay our issues to the local maintenance office who assigns someone to handle them.

There are two apartment inspections with the manager each year and an annual pet exam for the office. There is also a service coordinator who aids tenants, arranges programs, helpers such as CNAs, and helps those who need it with taxes, paperwork, or finding a program to meet particular needs.

The fourth is when I will try to get all my monthly errands and chores done in one day. The rebuilding of two neighborhood bridges is to end this month. They've been closed for a year, forcing those of us in the neighborhood to pay more for alternate routes. So, it will be nice to save a little extra and perhaps spread errands out more.

Hello, Everyfriend!  I'm really tired tonight but it has been a very good day!  First, I got some things done early this morning that have been yelling for attention.  Then Cindy drove me 65 miles for a visit with my sister and so she (Cindy) could look through some of the old recipes that Margie has collected over the years.  Our Grandfather owned a bakery in his younger years and we all enjoyed looking through his recipes in his handwriting.

When we came home, we stopped at Cathy's to switch cars (Cindy didn't think my old jalopy would make the 65 miles so she made a deal to trade it for Cathy's car) we were invited to stay for supper.  We did and then when we left there, Cindy dropped at the polls to cast my vote.  When we got home, both of us were tired.  Cindy has already retired and I'm just about to hit the haystack!  And that's my day!

PATRICIA, I loved your pictures.  Sometimes the old cameras really show offQ

AMY, sounds like you had a nice day and got home just in time!.

SANDY, I can nap during the day but only if I have a blanket to "cover my feet and my seat".  It doesn't matter if anything else is covered but I can't seem to fall asleep during the day if those two places aren't covered!  Weird!

Forgot to mention that there was a surprise package on my doorstep when we got home.  It was a beautiful quilt made by friends in a beautiful bag that I can use to tote my personal needs to the hospital on Monday when I go for my surgery.  I love them both but I love the thought even more!  It was such a nice thing to do and brought both a smile to my lips and tears to my eyes!

I'm off to the haystack and I bet it's loaded with zzzzzs!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good brrrr morning. It is now 34 and when I pulled up the shade every thing was white with frost, looks like a thick one, too. We will be lucky to get out of the 40's today. Nothing came of the maintenance man coming in yesterday. He never showed up and he lef t early. The witch came up with a man wi th a flashlight whe was shining it at the fire alarms high up on the walls. Have no idea how anyone could  reach that high to pull them.

AMY  time to get the Geemagotchees on for sure today. Glad I had my warm robe ou t for this morning and feels good, also turned  the heat up to 75 for now. Once it gets warm I will turn it down to her 68.

PATRICIA  it we have something the maintenance man has to  take care of we have to let witch know and she will give him the work order. I think we all miss  the one who retired, he fought for we old folks but this new one is what  some would call a -brown noser-. My daughter takes great pictures with her iPhone. Her husband does, too, and he has a great camera with all the different lenses and he does not  use it now.

JANE  I am like you, need a cover to fall asleep. Even in summer I have to at least have the top sheet over me to fall asleep.

About now I feel like I could have a morning nap but Yvette will be here early this morning so cannot lay down. The lady she has before me has been having a lot of appointments so I let her come when she wants but it sure is throwing me off my routine. She will be having the first knee surgery on the 10th so then will be the fun of replacements for her for 3 months.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good morning..

Yes, it is a brr morning here also with a temp of 25°!
Lots to do today, can the potatoes and trim the Brussel sprouts if time permits.  Today is also the first of 3 days that I look after the neighbours dog and cat. Love these critters and will enjoy the next 3 days. Rex gets pills 3 times a day now to help with achy joints and his allergy. Boy, I fit right in with him at times.

Gloria, for sure the Geemagotchees will be on. Today is to be nice and not have rain or snow....so they say. Hope you get someone as good a Yvette when she has her surgery.

Jane, going through those old recipes would bring back a lot of memories.  I have a feeling that package brought two surprises ,one for you and one for the sender. Great way to end a wonderful time with your family.

Better get a move on.......slept in  and have a lot to do today.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We also had temps below freezing overnight.  When Cooper arrived this morning he was wearing a coat.  He looked so cute and toasty warm.

Right now the temp is 36º but it was down to 28 overnight and is going the same direction overnight tonight.  It's giving us a taste of winter but, so far, no snow!

I have a bunch of things lined up to do today and I better get started or they won't get done.  Cindy is at her computer doing her daily job with the company in Texas that she still works for from her home in OKla.  I've heard her on the phone with them and I could actually hear her boss talking to her.  You can tell he trusts her and is glad he didn't lose her when they moved to OKLA.

Had to interrupt and take Cooper for a walk.  Also, I'm supposed to continue at laeas 2 ten minute walks a day until my surgery.  So we accomplished two things on our walk!

Now I'm off to try to get some other stuff done that needs to be done before Monday.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from an Interior at 27 degrees. We had a bit of snow yesterday, and it barely covered the ground. However, starting Sunday, the seventh, we're told to expect multiple days of snow or ice or both!

Today will be busy; between 8 AM and 9:30, they will be by door to door with our Covid booster. Those who declined the booster have the option today to substitute the flu shot. Then the fire personnel, along with a member of maintenance, will check each apartment's alarms and sprinkler system. They will replace each apartment's fire extinguisher as well.

After that, I will be meeting with Claire and Dora for lunch and grocery shopping. It's going to be a full day, folks!

Gloria, the answering service, is in a town four hundred miles from here and does work orders for the entire state's maintenance workforce. They then alert the local workers and assign the job to someone. Everything is digital nowadays, and I'm not sure that's a good thing. For example, you're locked out of your apartment, you call the answering service and will wait at least twenty minutes to a half-hour before someone comes to let you in!

Jane, I'll bet Cooper looked cute in his coat. I've never seen any dogs locally in a coat. However, I've seen many dogs and cats in backpacks as well as those animal strollers!

Looked out the window and huge fluffy snow flakes we slowly making it to the ground!

Listening to the hiss of the pressure cooker now, one batch in and another ready to go in. Jane, I cheated this year on peeling potatoes. I sat at the kitchen sink 30 lbs of potatoes looking at me, knife in hand and thought there has to be an easier way. APPLE PEELER!!! Clamped it to the table and those peels were flying ,you do have to do a bit of knife work but for the most part it works!!

Patricia, you sure have a busy time ahead but lots of fun with your friends......enjoy your day out.

I just had my Covid booster, Moderna, as were my first two shots. The guy who administered it was perfect and very quick, which was nice: absolutely no reactions, skin redness, or after-effects. I had to wait thirty minutes as I've had analeptic shock before, food allergies, instead of the usual 15 minutes, but all good.

Now, I need to wait for my fire equipment inspection, and then I'm good to go for lunch.

In her last post, PATRICIA is going to lunch and now I'm heading for the haystack!  I'm sure there aren't that many hours between PA and Alaska but we must have all been very busy today.

I changed all the short sleeved shirts and short pants to other storage areas and moved in all the long sleeved shirts, sweat shirts, sweaters and sweat pants and I'm ready for winter.  If the borders are open between here and Canada, the snow might make it here before I'm ready.  I wore my winter jacket for the first time today and it sure did feel good!

It's supposed to dip down to 30º overnight and still be there in the morning when we'll all be getting up.  Frankie is spending the night here and we're all hoping that Cooper will choose to sleep with me since I have the biggest bed.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

A killing frost here last night ,temp is 27° at the moment.

Yesterday was busy with the potatoes and after 40 pints it was all done! Will use the apple peeler from here on in to peel that many again. Will go next door in a few minutes to let the dog out and then feed both him and Callie the cat.

Today is an appointment then home to label and put away the  potatoes .May find a cat nap later on in the day as Babe had me up 5 times during the night..

Jane, I wore my winter jacket last night when going to give Rex his meds and letting him out for one last time.

Phyllis, hope all  is well in your neck of the woods.

Lloyd, you are missed!!

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, 19 degrees here with dense fog and an expectation of snow. We've had snow dusts more than any natural snowfall, and Rammel, some of our trees still have all their leaves. Many began coloring after that odd first September snow. This weather reminded me of 1992 when we had a massive hail storm that looked like snow, and we saw the real thing soon afterward. Before the hail storm, everything was green, and people were in harvest rather than winter mode.

Today I'll be more out than in, so I hope everyone behaves, stays safe, and has a good day!

Good morning every one, 29 this morning and even the roof of the building is white this morning. Yesterday with Yvette's help we got summer clothes put away and winter clothes out. Only a few more days and she will be in the hospital for her first knee surgery and 3 months out before she is back to work. I sure will miss her.

AMY  your post from yesterday morning about the geemagotchees had me thinking I did not see mine when we got the winter clothes out.

JANE  yesterday the landscapers were here and sweeping up all the fallen leaves and a breeze would shake more leaves down. After all that  rain and wind we had i t really did mess wi th those maples tha t turn a beautiful red, this year they are more of a dull orange. First time this happened in the almost 7 years I  have been here. Got another notice under the door yesterday, now on Monday we will have someone come  to all apartments starting at 8 am to check windows. Checking for failed window seals. Some thing else  to dis turb us again. Must be a BIG inspection coming up. Since I have been here things are getting checked I never heard of before.

PATRICIA  we are not  supposed to have an ex tra key made for our apartments but  we all have done it. My son who lived 3 miles from here has one and I have one in my wallet. Now with this maintenance man who know what will happen if we lock ourselves out. Oh yes the witch charges $25 to unlock your door after the first time it happens. Same with locking yourself out of the bathroom, no one has a thing to unlock that door. Paul-the retired maintenance man would let people in and never say anything to the witch. The witch and maintenance are the only 2 who can go into all the apartments with a key.

AMY  I love watching those big whit e flakes falling  by my windows. Could watch them all day.

JANE  I have my sweat pants out now and  think I just might  wear a pair  today. I have some new ones I bought at the end of the season last winter and never wore yet.

RAMMEL we already have some  trees almost bare of leaves.

PATRICIA  after 2 nights of killing frost it is past harvest time here.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Gonna be a busy one here today.  I have lots to get done before I hit the hospital on Monday!  But I think I'll make it OK!  I'm going to scoot out and get a hair trim this morning and then pick up a couple things at WM that I need.  That's all the "out" stuff I have to do but there's a lot of "in" stuff to get done!

Enjoy your "chilly" day today.  I do believe Winter is upon us!

Passing RAMMEL a pair of sneakers for his nose. If it is going to run you may need them. :walking2:  We are also waiting on hard frosts to kill whatever is in the yard that bothers Babe and the next door dog. One of his pills is an allergy pill.

Better get back to work..

Good Afternoon,  temperatures down in the 40's in central Oklahoma; weather alternating between drizzle and "thin" sunshine.  Rather a dreary start to November.

In case I forget -  Prayers and Good Wishes to you, Janie, for successful results from your surgery.

...and also for MaryPage.

#2 son and I have a "dinner date" every two weeks on the nights DIL gets a mani/pedi and alternate providing food (I cook and he brings from a restaurant). Last night was my turn and I tried a new recipe for baked pork chops. Did not turn out well and we agreed that doing them in the slow cooker is much better.

Workers are here replacing the arbor over patio that had to be taken down during roofing project.  Have had a text from Miss Emily setting up a lunch date next week. Am doing laundry and doing desk work.

And that's what's going on in my corner of the world.
Hope Everyfriend is having a "Thuper Thursday"....including Shirley  ;)

I'm back, finally got everything done, paperwork filled out and submitted, cash changed hands, and I'm done for this year, hopefully.

No snow, skies are back to blue, and we've warmed up to plus 24. Yesterday our low was plus 27!

Local weather guessers said yes terday it would not be as cold last night. Instead of in the 30's it is 29 now at 7am. I t hink  they were more concerned about  letting us know we have to turn the clocks back Saturday night. From what  I heard on the news turkey will be costly this year and will be lucky to find a smaller one. Not everyone wants an 18 pound one.

JANE  like you said yesterday, feels like winter is here, no fall wea ther this year, summer to winter and then we had winter to summer without  beautiful spring weather either.  Nature sure is changing or am I imagining how different it used  to be?

RAMMEL  gee maybe you should vacation here  in New England  where we had 3 mornings in a row waking to everything covered in white frost. Sorry your allergies are acting up.

CALLIE  gee I have not had a porkchop in ages. Last  one had a CNA cook was so overdone it was tough and never had one like that before.

JACKIE  I cooked pork snops on the grill in the summers when it was too t to cook in the house.

FLAJEAN  nice seeing you pop in here.

PATRICIA  sun is showing lightly from a layer of clouds this morning.

SHIRLEY  I have one phone call I keep putting off. Need to call a new dentist. After what  I went  through las t time I had a tooth out I will not go  there again.

AMY  seeing the temperature get down in the 20's  this morning feels more like winter. Wonder if I should bundle up and get out for some fresh air or just stay inside.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning from an Interior at 17 degrees. It's very dry out there with little humidity, and without humidity, there's no snow. The temperatures keep going down, and they keep saying we're to have snow soon, and then we don't.

Gloria, if we see blue skies in winter, it means colder temperatures. Cloudy skies keep the cold out, and the hot air doesn't escape into the atmosphere. Per your post earlier, we're also charged twenty-five dollars if we're locked out outside of regular hours. There is no way to have extra keys made as we have none. We use electronic fobs to get in and inside the building. If you lose one of those, it's a $200.00 replacement charge because they're keyed to our apartment number.

Everyone's busy today with chores, supply runs, and preparing for next week and medical procedures. I'm going to rest after the last two days of rushing hither and yon!

Just came back from feeding Rex and Callie. I am going to miss my time with them, I do see Rex at the fence and give him his treats. Callie, loves her treats also and will get just a we dab of his meat in her dish. She heads right for the cupboard and waits patiently for it..well aside from reaching up at you to hurry :)

I am more than ready to rest now.

Today was a beautiful day with temps in the low 50s and sunshine all day.  I got a lot done in the house and I'm ready for lying around and letting someone else take care of me.  I have a pre-op appt tomorrow late morning and then just wait until I check in for surgery at 6 a.m. on Monday.  The gal who called me this morning to get that all set up mentioned, among other things, that the surgery itself will be 6 to 8 hours.  I'm sure glad I'll be asleep!

PHYLLIS, I've been wondering where you were and offered a couple prayers on your behalf.  You take very good care of YOU because we need you back whenever you feel like coming by!

AMY, your next door pets are sure lucky to have you around!  But it sounds like they already know that!

PATRICIA, I think I'm glad I never moved to Alaska.  The weather is surely different than anything I'm used to!

I wonder how LLOYD is doing?  Has anyone heard from him?

I guess I'll go fix my supper.  I've invited General Tso to join me and he said he'd bring his specialty with him.  Uncle Ben is coming, too and he's bringing rice!  Gonna be a good supper!

Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyfriend and hop back in here tomorrow.

Not a lot to show for my day today, just couldn't get in gear. Never did make the phone calls, not sure I will. Debating whether to ask Medicare or Blue Cross if I am cutting my own throat to NOT go through with the surgery or if I will be okay as far as insurance goes, to put it off. I am not comfortable about doing it right now, think they are pushing too hard.

Phyll, do hope whatever went wrong in your world is fixed. Hugs to you while in re-hab.

Jane, long time for surgery, prayers will be with you & thoughts & concern until we hear from you after it's all over.

Rick, my nose joins yours on this run-a-way, worst pollen in years & no frost here either. This week end & Monday back to low 70s! I am consoling myself with day after Halloween sale candy, how about Twix, Hershey, M&M, Snickers, & Butterfinger, all fun size.... my favorites & all half price, doesn't get any better than that! Lucky for me I don't gain weight so will enjoy & then feel guilty when all gone. Ah, bad me........

Amy, these cats love raw red meat, can't find the Friskies' Indoor Delights dry but have over half a 13 lb bag left. Just made a big order from Chewy of 2 cases of the Friskies cans & some kitty litter. Awful that it's so hard to find, crazy!

Patricia, do you change time in Alaska?  I think/thought AZ was the only state that doesn't. I dread doing the clocks but at least I think all the electronics does it on it's own (Google things & computers/iPads, phone & FitBit?) I unplugged some of the clock radios because they are so irritating when power goes off for a few seconds & then they flash UNTIL....

Jackie, I had to Google to find spelling of Guy Fawks Day.... I remembered it the years we lived there. Quite a big splash in Marlow & High Wycombe. We don't do fireworks except for our 4th of July and a few will set some off on New Year's Eve. The prices of a few seconds color is more than I'm willing to spend for!

Gloria, have you hinted to your family that a new computer might be a welcome Christmas present?  Do you want a "full blown" computer or laptop?  I've loved this HP & was really afraid to buy it after the torture yours put you through.... but couldn't believe the price & at least 3 years old without any problems. My son couldn't believe I got a "touch screen" with all the bells & whistles for $250, but that's what it cost. I've checked every Walmart since but never found another on sale like this. In face, most of their laptops are "out of stock". I don't understand the lack of ALL products, made in US or overseas... empty shelves. Doesn't anyone work, produce anything anymore?

Gosh, need to call my sister-in-law. She had a fall last week & didn't sound like herself when I talked to her. She is the 3rd "old lady"<smile> that's banged up their face in the last month or so, taking a tumble. May be catching so I am being extra careful.

Good night, sweet dreams... see the USA in your Chevrolet.... remember that?  Hugs...

Good morning..

My morning chores are now cut in half. Neighbours arrived home safe and sound last night. I bet they got a talking to from both dog and cat! I was happy to hear that my friends Mom knew her and could carry on a conversation with her. Not so sure that at another time she will be able to...dementia/Alzheimer's hurts in many ways.

Already had a scam call, my Amazon account has been...and so was he because I hung up !

Laundry day and it looks hanging out will happen. Work around home and see what happens, nothing pressing for the day here.

Jane, talked with David and the two of them took off yesterday and they came home with another cabinet to put preserves on!!

Gloria, geemogotchee morning here....27° at the moment.

Rich,I don't know if the neighbours have given Callie raw meat. I do know Callie will give them a mice or two
should they happen to come in the house!

Shirley, a hard frost is needed here for both neighbours dog and ours. Can't come soon enough to give them relief from scratching!

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day  and stay safe.

Good morning everyone another white morning with frost covering everything. Trees are mostly bare already excep t for the pines and there are a lot of them around. Will be a quiet  2 days without all the work going on around here. On Monday starting at 8 a glass company will check all the windows to see if they are all tight. Latest roumor going around is that the company who owns  the building is going to sell it. I do know this is the first time they have done so much cleaning and checking every thing in all the apartments. Landscapers wre here 2 days  this week and are losing the battle of trying  to get all  the leaves up off the ground.

PATRICIA  same here with blue sky and low humidity, cools off fast at night with a clear sky and all the stars showing. Nice in summer when i tmeans low humidity and a cooler night. We have a fob like you to get into the building but keys  to our apartments.

PHYLLIS  prayers that you feel well enough to go home soon. You are missed.

JACKIE  wha t is being celebrated  there with all that noise?

JANE  along with others I will be praying for you on Monday. I pray you wake on  Tuesday morning  to good news,  that every  thing with  that darn c is gone and you can live a lot more happy years. Yvette goes in for her knee surgery on Tuesday morning. I already dread  the 3 months of wondering if I will have help or not, especially someone who can cook.

SHIRLEY  this HP is my second one, first one was great but hard drive almos t full wi th all the graphics I was doing so ordered a new one from HP and I believe it must  have been made on a MOnday or a Friday. One day when people ar e tired from  the week end and need a rest or the other when looking forward  to a week end off. Wow shades of Dinah Shaw and her 15 minut e  TV program.

My son will be here soon so better go get dressed and a list made for the market.

Have a good day and s tay safe.

Beautiful day in the making here starting out at 31°.
I need to go buy another vacuum today...the Dyson has again broke! To replace the part is half of what it would cost of a new one. No more Dysons for me!!

A day of rest when we get back home and to the sewing room I go. Not so fast here ,I have to set the clocks back then I can go..

One week into Nov and no s-n -o-w, not complaining here as we will get enough over the course of winter.

Good morning everyone, got  side tracked watching a commercial for a Tebo massage chair. Just lay back and it will massage back from neck down to toes. Sounds too good and still have not mentioned  the price. Have to call or go on line to find out. Most likely too much for the average people these days  and they are afraid to shock  those watching the add.
Frost again this morning. Wonder if some morning when I pull the shade up I will see a different white out there instead of frost. At least white snow is beautiful to look at.

RAMMEL  hope your allergies now stop botheing your nose. Enjoy your coffee, I am now on my second cup of it.

JACKIE  who or what was Guy Fawkes? Real or made up like our Li'l Abner?

CALLIE  glad I am not the only one who knows nothing about Guy Fawkes.

JACKIE  thanks for letting us know at  leas  Guy  Fawkes was a real person.

AMY  now that  it is getting colder I can imagine how good the clothes smell when you take them off the line and fold them. I used t o love put t ing the newly washed and dried shee ts back on the beds. Smelled so good. 27 here when I got up, colder than you this morning.

JANE  prayers following you.

LLOYD  where are you? Hope it is your computer not working and not you being in the hospital.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning, no news here, which is to be expected on a Sunday during the lockdown. We are the state with the highest cases presently. They again promise snow this afternoon and evening, a whopping 0.2 inches. I'm thinking of Beverly and Jane this morning and hope those facing medical procedures will have good news.

Back to checking clocks and coffee.

At least not the constant runny nose and repeated sneezing. Soon the snow will be here and I'll be back complaining about that. Some people are just never happy  :idiot2:

Good Sunday Morning,

I'm "squeaking and creaking" this morning - probably because I decided to trim back two of the turned-yellow-and-wilted Hostas in my back flower bed yesterday afternoon. I "parked" my rollator (walker with a seat) so I could sit/use it for balance while reaching and had no problems. However....some muscles are letting me know they hadn't been used in quite a while.

It was so nice outside that I spent another hour reading on the patio Had also filled the bird feeder/suet feeder and am sure the birds were watching because some appeared as soon as I sat down.

Gloria,  I actually do know who Guy Fawkes was (I love reading British history) but thought the story should come from someone who lives there and experiences the day.

Thank you, Jackie!

Beverly, Jane and MaryPage are in my thoughts and prayers today - and for the days ahead.

Off to prepare for watching church service on live Facebook video.

Jackie, I was referring to your description of Guy Fawkes- not your post that followed mine.
I had my post ready and then lost it! By the time I redid it you had posted about the terrible news.

We get the same reports of horrid events -over and over and over - and always "headlining" the news.  Then they'll throw in a quick story about something nice someone did - and back to the horrid stuff.  Gets annoying and tiresome!
Thank goodness for the mute button!!

Good Morning; Good Afternoon; Good Evening and probably "Good Night" too.  I'm getting down to the wire and I'm not prepared.  And Christy came up from Maryland yesterday and brought a fresh-killed chicken from their farm and she's been busy for the better part the past two days making a meal and inviting all the family to join us for supper tonight.  I have no idea what she made with the chicken but it's in a large pot on the stove!

I really don't expect to sleep much tonight and I hope I don't keep my daughters awake. Even if I get all ready by bed time, morning IS going to come early for all of us! And I'm thinking, I probably won't sleep much!

I wish everyone here good health and well-being!  Please know that even if I don't communicate for a while, you are all in my thoughts!  Also, my daughters all know that they need to connect with AMY who will pass on the news to all of you!

I went to church this morning and it was the ALL SAINTS celebration.  They sang one of my favorite hymns and the prayers were perfect for my feelings.  I felt like my whole family was with me!

I HAVE A GOOD FEELING ABOUT ALL THAT IS COMING UP!!

Jane, one more God Bless on your plate tonight. Hi to all your kids, we're counting on you for updates, please?  Could it be chicken & dumplins?  YUM! Have fork will travel~~

Got up early-early & fed cats, went to church & to McDonald's with the grandson & family. Came home to feed cats again & took a nap the rest of the afternoon!  Maybe I will get something done tonight (or not).

Another windy day in Kansas. You'd think after nearly 70 years in Kansas I'd get used to it but it still makes me walk the floor (or sleep).

Good Morning my DEAR FRIENDS!  I'm ready to go!  We'll be leaving in about 45 minutes but I wanted to thank all of you for the prayers that will continue!  So....THANK YOU ALL!

Also wanted to let you know that the meal that was made from the fresh chicken was Italian Wedding Soup.  And we had a nice salad made by Cathy and icecream for dessert.

Have a good day!

Good morning.

Tis foggy out there this morning  temp of 31° at the moment.
Mixed up day here will work around home then take Kyle in to the Dr. We would rather have an early appointment but it is what it is and thankful to get an appointment.

Talked with Jane last evening and she sounds in good spirits.

Patricia, don't you wish they wouldn't follow through on the promise of snow?

Gloria, hope the witch goes if the building sells!!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone. 33 this am and a light frost today. By now anyone with allergies here must be breathing better.

JANE  I might be too late for you  to see  this before you leave for the hospital. Prayers for you and a complete removal of that c. We need and want  you with us for many more years to come.

JACKIE  that man-pervert needs to be locked away for the rest of his rotten life. How sick to even think of. Where are the stories about  the good things people do? They are out there but  not  worth reporting on, just the bad news they like reporting.

CALLIE  I bought my rollator at least 10 years ago and without it I would not be getting around like I do.

AMY  we already have a beautiful blue sky. Cannot see even a speck of white in it.

BUBBLE  you mean it is 12 years ago that  Pat  started S&F? We have lost several of those who posted here in the SS over the years. Thanks for the reminder.

Have a good day and be safe. Praying for Jane .

Good morning, twelve degrees and light snow here this morning in the Interior!

I'm thinking of Jane, but I'm sure she's in recovery presently as I'm four hours behind.

Gloria, if your building does sell, I hope things change for the better. We went from private ownership to state-owned in 2016, and I'm sure we were better off private.

I'm thinking about Phyliss as we haven't heard about her recovery and Shirley's indecision. There are so many going through medical issues that we care about, and we hope everything is going well.

And my thoughts are with Rick and Beverly after the losses of their loved ones. We have so many longtime friends here that we care about. I wish them all strength and peace.

I just had a call from Gloria..... her computer had a nervous break down & think she is ready to pull her hair out. Sounds like her world is crumbling with Yevette (sp?) going in for her surgery & the substitute didn't show up and inspections to take place! Some days you can't win. By the way, Gloria, you do have the "clipped speech" of the eastern US, do I drawl like from southern Missouri?

Everything I went to do today didn't work out so nothing to brag about getting done. Half a dozen projects started but nary a one finished. My sweet gum tree got a lot yellower (that a word?) today so expect the leaves will start dropping soon. Some of the trees around the corner are nearly bare so their leaves will blow into my yard tomorrow with the wind out of the north now. I will be mulching all those leaves, maybe 1 out of 50 mine, to put out for the trash next week. I'd like to find someone to mow that picks up, the kids that mowed all summer just mulch so doesn't work with lots of leaves. Sure don't want to tangle with that last guy that broke down my gate & made a big trench in the neighbor's yard running his tractor over their soaked lawn (growing new grass). Not my usual fall, or year.

Patricia, I think, pretty sure, I'm going to cancel the appointments with the cardio surgeon & at least wait until after the holidays. I won't have my old buddy to watch out for me, but it just doesn't seem like the right time. I'm taking my vitamins & feel so much better (okay, maybe it's in my head?) not ready to deal with what they want to do.

Got my drafting table set up & plan to go thru all my paints to see what dried up since my last fling. I've got paints & brushes strung out in several places because I took some camping with me, also had a gr-daughter over to see what she could do (nice job) but right now not enough time to work painting in. Anyway, got to get organized to have 2 paintings done by Christmas!  That should keep me off the streets!

I was going to call Lloyd & Nancy but can't find their phone number. He called to have me let everyone know their internet was out & thought I could find his number that way (also had it written down somewhere).... but nothing turning up.  If anyone has it, I know he thinks nobody cares that he can't get in to visit.... sniff-sniff.... wish someone would call to see how they are doing or send me his phone number & I'll call??? Not sure if their phones work if internet doesn't.  He said they bought a "hot spot" but couldn't get it to work. I don't know how they work so that's all I know about anything.  :-[

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

I am sorry I have not been in for a bit.  I have been busy with physical therapy and the pain associated with this.  My 2 kids moving here and there has me on pins and needles as well.

Sweet MARILYN sent email and told me about the passing of Chape.  I am so heartbroken for you, Beverly.

Thank you, JACKIE, for missing me.  I did not think I had been missing for that long, but the way time flies....who knows? Horrifying news about what that nasty creature did!

I have continued prayers for Chape, Jane and MARYPAGE.  I hope and pray Jane's surgery went well today and she is resting comfortably tonight as she gains her strength to get home soon.

Rick, I hope the good heavy frost has taken care of your allergies 😘

SHIRLEY, I think I have Lloyds number....I will look.  I always hold you in my thoughts and prayers but especially right now with the concerns and thoughts about if and when you will feel OK to move forward with your surgery.

Poor Gloria.  She will be stir crazy without her computer AND Yvette being out for her surgery😩🥲. I hope if her building is taken over by someone else that they will put the Witch out on the street corner.

AMY, I do hope the trip to the doctor for bloodwork went we well for you two!

Seems I did not post what I wrote earlier today, so best hit POST now.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

While I'm still remembering to do this - The two nights of frost seem to have done the trick. No runny nose today and minimal sneezing.  When I was a kid in the era before antihistamines I would sometimes sneeze 17 times in a row [ yes, I did count. ].  Got allergy shots for years so I guess that's why I don't mind when I need a shot for things like Flu or Covid.

Good luck, good wishes, - for those challenging the medical world.

Good morning..

Another grand day in the making here..starting off with 35°.
Odds and ends to do today ,plus package up another quilt top ,that makes 13 to go.

Shirley, thank you for letting us know about Gloria's lemon..she will surely be missed in here. I have Lloyd phone number from before he moved will try it and see if he is using it at the new place.

Jenny, blood work complete now setting up for an MRI. Is the Dr happy with how your shoulder is coming along? How is your Dad doing?

Phyllis, good to hear from you. Rehab is a blessing as it allows you to rest and get your strength back.

Patricia, no snow here but yesterday morning we noticed that the road crew had peppered the roads in places with salt. Jane's surgery was 6+ hrs long and when I talk with her daughter will let you know how she is coming along. They had to be in the hospital for 5:30 am yesterday and I bet everyone is tired.

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Thanks, Amy, for checking on Lloyd. Would you believe I had a nightmare about him & Nancy last night? For true, was crazy about trying to find them "somewhere out there". In Lloyd's case, if his internet isn't working chances are his phones are on the same router/modem (what do I know about how things work?).... but probably his cell phone should work IF he uses one in his  name. I looked back over my caller ID & didn't find any listing in Lloyd's name so maybe he called me with his gr-daughter's phone & I wouldn't recognize the name.

I had a great suggestion from Rick (Rammel) about someone being a contact person & he even volunteered (can't back out now, Rick!) to keep up-dated phone numbers for us. I immediately sent him MY phone number but after thinking, should have included one of my kids to contact IF I don't show up for any length of time. I've had the same "landline" or house phone number for years but in Lloyd's case, if the phones are linked to the internet (like mine) if one is out so is the other. In MY case, I don't turn my cell phone unless I want to use it which is rare except when I go out of town. The battery has not held up well from the get-go (an iPhone SE) but if I keep it plugged in then I don't have it with me when I am out & about. I do have OnStar in the Encore but since it doesn't get highway miles I never used it so quit the service. I still get "Nav" but have to program in myself & I rarely go anywhere I don't know so not worth the trouble or expense. Anyway, I have reasons for why I do things and do think the offer from Rick a really good idea. I do answer the phone even when I don't recognize the number (most of the time). All too often it's a robo but I pull out my personal alarm & hope who ever monitors gets a busted ear drum .. yes, I do.

Hi, Phyll, glad to see you checking in & hope you get sprung soon. Work hard & get those muscles strong fast! We all have to be careful about that. I'm trying to push a little harder myself, think I've allowed my body to get far too lazy & can't live alone that way.

Trees are absolutely still so must go down & turn the sprinkler system on, supposed to get rain tomorrow but only showers & this is the time of year we want those grass & tree roots to go down deep for moisture so they don't freeze. Something my mother used to say every fall....

Good morning, Sandy, you snuck in. I do remember when we were all concerned with your health issues and where you would land. Glad you found your perfect spot that keeps you in the middle of everything, you seem happy.

She is in ICU for now.  She DOES NOT HAVE THROAT CANCER. One should get the story straight before posting misinformation.

Good morning; it is 6:55 and six degrees locally this morning, with another 0.2 inches of snow. My 23 and me Health and Ancestry DNA kit is due to arrive today. It will be interesting to hear back on the results after I send them in. A couple of years back, I sent in an Ancestry.com kit only to learn what my family had said for years was true.  I'm Irish and Welsh with some Scot, Swede, and Norwegian thrown in.  Now to see if it's true about health issues.

I'm glad to hear that Jane's surgery went well. She's determined and has family close, so I wasn't surprised.

WOW, what a difference a little while makes!!  I've been out hosing down some throw rugs, a couple Callie visited & marked as her favs.... but some just dirty. Not sure how they will turn out but not worth tearing up the washer & sure not worth sending off. Anyway, kept me busy outside long enough for people to show up!

Welcome home, Gloria, glad that turkey got up & running.... oh, no, it was Amy's turkey!  :D

Phyll, you will feel better talking to us than hiding in a corner, just go ahead & gripe if you want, we won't tell.

Think maybe we are hanging close to our computers for more news of Jane?  Glad you cleared that up about not being throat cancer, Amy, I wasn't really sure so was not commenting. My bro-in-law had that surgery quite a few years ago and a super sweet lady that lived in the area of Vanderbilt came & sat with Cas & me from about 6:00 am to midnight. We left after hearing from the doctors because he had 3 friends staying with him until he was to go home. Such extensive surgery we left with heavy hearts for whether he would be able to talk to us on the phone ever again, they removed 70% of his tongue, replaced it with tissue from his wrist and replaced that with tissue from his thigh. I'm so glad Jane doesn't have that to face, although Cas' brother is still going strong, a little difficult to understand when he gets in a hurry, he is alive & enjoying life.

Thanks for trying to reach Lloyd, Amy, too bad none of us has his gr-daughter's  phone number or even name. I am the world's worst for keeping track of phone numbers unless I program them into a phone.... and then the phones bite the dust so I'm lost again. I need a keeper.......

Hi, Patricia. We/my family, did the 23 & Me & it's been interesting & fun. It once gave a great niece title of MY grand, but I finally recognized her name. Nearly had a heart attack at which of my sons had a child I didn't know about.  :o

Shirley, I sent you an email. My friend had throat cancer and they removed her esophagus and raised her stomach. Operation went well.....but she contacted C-difficile. :(  A man that had the same operation said that they have to chose what they want...to eat or drink they can not do both at once....no room in the rib cage.
Jane ,does have a long road ahead of her but she is one determined lady..and won't sit still for long.

Gloria, I sure hope you can  get that puter fixed..

Yesterday was a long day and I really don't like driving at night but it had to be done. Had one driver blow a stop sign in front of us and another blowing his horn as he screamed by 3 vehicles that were not going   slow......speed is 80 and I was doing 90 k . Came in the house to find a big bouquet of flowers and a gift card . A thank you card was included signed Rex and Callie.

Patricia,Jane's family is amazing!!! Such a close knit family and they sure have rallied around her.
Please keep the snow there...we are to get rain all day Fri and I can deal with that. :)

Good sunny morning..

Temp is staying down at 30° at the moment. My wake up call from crow has been replaced by blue jays! Need to get some more birdseed today for them.

Received a call yesterday from ???she said in a few minute I could receive a phone call from a clairvoyant and she could predict the future. Told her I could do that and someone  was going to hang up on her and I did!!

Phyllis, Janes family is awesome, children and grandchildren. Plus she has friends phoning to find out how she is doing. Hope each day brings strength to you.

Better get ready to go into town to pick up the birdseed. Can't have them holding their tummies.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for November 1, 2021

Not me (catching Lloyd & Nancy). I can't imagine him being without the computer this long. I think he watches old movies, etc. on his computer. He mentioned something about the internet service "pulled the plug" because he was streaming too much. He thought he had unlimited but he said they bought a "hot spot" and couldn't get that to work. I have a feeling this is one blow too many for him to cope with so by now may be in the VA hospital.  Notice I say "may"... Crossed my mind to call the VA in Warrensburg,MO, I know he uses that one as well as one in Kansas City. But the only way they would help is IF he came in they could tell him we were trying to reach him, a big IF and doubt if that would really get us contact with him. If he is okay I think he will find a way to let us know. I think we all reach that stage at times where we have to pull ourselves together & take stock. They have had a lot to cope with this year. None of the ways we could reach them a few months ago would work, phones, e-mail or even if we had his snail-mail address. All changed.

Leaves are starting to fall this morning, my sweet gum tree is about half & half (green & yellow) & they will dump fast one of these days. I've got to find a lawn crew that will pick up & not just mulch... one more time, to trim & edge before the dump. Sure don't want that guy that mowed last time but don't want the crew that mowed before, either... they only mulched & not what the grass needs at this stage.

We have another flock of robins migrating through this morning. I'm guessing they are from the higher mountains or maybe even Alaska?  They are not as bright colors, seem a little larger and don't dart around as fast as earlier flocks. The wind is really moving the trees today, have another front to bring rain later. Gone are the days I used to sit out with camera to watch for the different types of birds that come through. Even with the cloud cover the over all color as I look down to the river, is gold with enough green to soften the winter black tree trunks. I do love this time of year and look forward to what winter will bring.

Good morning, minus six, and chill here in the Interior. Shirley, any arctic birds, would have left here a couple of months ago. The only small birds left are chickadees, pine siskins, and other year around species.

About Lloyd, perhaps you could try the method Seniornet's Rae and Adrienne used when I was once off the computer for a month and a half. They called the local police out of concern and asked them to check on me. I was amazed and touched when the police called me and asked me to get in touch with them as they were worried. You could email the area's police.

Nothing on the agenda for today except the 23andMe test didn't arrive locally until 8:46 PM. I expect to receive it today and get it sent back tomorrow.

Phyliss, It's nice of you to stop in and let us know how you're doing; you're missed.

I hope Jane is still doing well, and we're blessed to have Amy reporting back for us.

I'm also thinking about Mary Page as she goes through her surgery valve replacement today. Altho since we're on different coasts, she's most likely already in recovery.

Will keep trying.

Just tried city hall  n/a

Amy, I tried the Walmart in Holden, MO, but the guy in electronics said their phone service is a part of tracfone & they don't have any kind of records about it. Since we don't really have a mailing address and not even sure the house is in his name or the grand's name (didn't he say it is a duplex?) really nothing to go on. Don't know if any chance the VA hospital in Warrensburg would be able to say if they had a patient by that name or could tell him we have been looking for them.... We really don't have much to go on.

Was running late to pick up a prescription for antibiotic (sinuses running amuck). I don't usually go out after dark. BUT, I need to fix my head. Got to the main intersection of my little loop line street & cross town busy one & noticed that the busy intersection to the east had lots of flashing lights, accident or even a problem at the apartment complex, but I was turning west to go south after I cross over the bridge (get the picture?) OOPS, what nobody wants to see, must have been at least a dozen police cars & other emergency vehicles crowding that whole batch of streets that meet just south of the dam going across the river.

One lane was kind of open, enough for my little car to wiggle thru & nobody stopped me. I boogied on down to the next busy intersection where my grocery store/pharmacy is. Decided I didn't want to get out of the car so pulled into the drive thru pharmacy lane. This is an area where illegals are caught (or other criminals) at the by-pass around the city, the underpass of a busy cross country drug world.... but an upscale housing area, too.

I don't often take medicine & never been in that drive thru but managed to get the job done & do a flip back to the street heading toward those flashing lights. Finally inched along & put down my window when I came to a human in uniform... Explained "my house backs up to the river on the north side (no way to get there but way I was heading), anything I need to worry about?"  We've had man hunts in the 33 years living here so not outrageous to think of. He replied, "just an accident".... but I sure couldn't see it for all those official vehicles! I'm not afraid but the alert button is on, times like this I sure wish I had a dog, these cats won't bark for me!

I'm waiting for a package from Amazon to be delivered yet tonight... I don't like the late deliveries but beats shopping a dozen stores & not finding what I need! Sweet dreams & hope ALL the news about our cyber family is good tomorrow!

Thanks for the update about Jane, Amy. Sounds like she has good care.

Good morning..
Another chilly morning here, not much sun today. Friends are stopping by to leave fabric and thread to donate to the group I am with in the city. With this darn pandemic it has curtailed a lot of the fund raising we do towards supplies.
Today is tidy up and put on a big pot of soup for tomorrow. If all goes well David and Bri will be coming up for a short visit. Hope they can at least have lunch with us. Will make his favourite pie, a raisin pie and they can take it home with them. Will also make a blueberry pie and we can have that for lunch also.

Shirley, will keep trying here..between us we should be able to nail Lloyds shoes in one place! :))

Gloria, sure hope your computer is fixed .I think I would be looking for another one but not the same kind. Going to be a wet weekend here, rain starts on Fri and they were talking that "S" word too!

Better get ready to meet the day, don't wish to be caught in pj's

Will keep you posted on Jane , she is a fighter and won't be down for long!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Here I go again, had a lot  typed on notepad and it all went into cyberspace. Been happening a lot lately. My grandson called yesterday and told me he is looking online for computers  that would be good for me since I don't do PSP anymore I really do not need as big a hard drive as this lemon has.

SHIRLEY  if anyone has Lloyd's old snail mail address and sent a letter there the post office would forward it to him. This is a case where someone having a name and address of one of his family members would be handy.

AMY  believe me I already  told David-grandson-NO HP ever again.I don' t  trust myself picking one after getting this lemon and he knows computers much better than me. The company he works for uses Dells. Thanks for the updates on Jane. I miss her posts and she is in my prayers often during the day.

Take care and have a good day, stay safe.

Good morning, WORLD. Tom slept in my bedroom last night so thought it time for breakfast at about 5:00am. I slept with one eye open because Callie wouldn't eat at all last night or evening, and she parked herself at a spot by a door where she never slept before (in the kitchen). Naturally, my thoughts were "is this her time?" She was still laying in the same spot when Tom & I came in this morning. I opened them a fresh can of salmon & fixed each a little larger than usual serving. Tom gulped his down & Callie ate most of hers. Tom went "out back" and I coaxed Callie to go thru the garage on to the front yard (or porch). I'm hoping she does go out because she is not good about using the 2 litter boxes in the garage. Will face that in a few minutes. Tiger came up from the basement & is eating. She will want to go check out the other end of the house, but none of them are doing what they "normally" do. So far I can trust her to NOT make a mess anywhere, except she likes to find a closet door she can bump open to sleep inside. You know the saying, "dogs have owners, cats have slaves".... ain't far wrong!

Fitbit says I got less than 5 hours sleep so guess who gets a nap today??!!  Right now it is 41° but feels like 39, tad windy but normal for Kansas. Got a feeling leaf pick up is on the menu this week end.

I'll keep up from my end, Amy, and betcha we'll find Lloyd & Nancy one of these days!  With all of our investigating they will be the best known couple in Missouri!  :D  ;)

Gloria, you snuck in again, you are getting up earlier than "usual"... maybe none of us are doing anything "usual" since Covid. This laptop does everything I need and more, but I still have the old one downstairs that I can do a few things with using PSP. Not much, but it's MY fault, not the computer's. It is too slow to mess with often but not ready to dump it, never been updated from Vista!

Computers - ???  The last one I got (this one) is a HP. So far it has done well.  It has a Solid State Drive which is used for the Operating System so it boots up  very fast. Not like my old one that took for ever to come to life. My only gripe (which I've learned to deal with.) is that it has a second Hard drive [ Drive D ] which is for all my stuff (Stuff other than the Operating System). You just have to remember to save things to the "D" Drive.

HP must have improved. A HP Laptop I bought went back 3 times, at their expense, and still didn't work right.  I found a fix on the net that made it work. They failed to include some software that was necessary for proper operation. Shame on their support people - scattered all over the world.

Good morning from a cold Interior at minus 14 at 5:43 AM.

Amy, thanks so much for keeping us informed on Jane's progress!

I mentioned this before, but a sure way to locate and get a message to Lloyd is to call the local police and request a check. They won't give you an address but will check on Lloyd and ask him to notify us as we're worried. This method works.

Patricia, since we don't have any address and not really any idea what area they moved to... not sure the police would search. I don't know why I got the feeling it was more rural and think it is a duplex with their grands, may not even be in their name. My "gut" feeling is best way might be to call the VA in Warrensburg, MO, I think he goes there more than one in KC but not sure about that. They probably do his hearing aids, his various carts, etc... to get around. If we caught a kind person that handles phones for them they might be able to contact at their new residence. I will see if I can get their phone number tomorrow, being this is their holiday, I expect they are being overwhelmed with visitors today. No mail service here today.

If you go by the last address, the police will search. They do a welfare check.

This has been a  :tickedoff:  day but ended well all round. :smitten:

First on our way into town there was a stray dog, collie type with a collar and scared! I tried dog cookies and his tail would wag but no way was he coming for them. Phone calls to no avail to find a solution to this. Talked with a retired dog catcher, talked with a foster Mom then talked with my other neighbour. To make a long story short....neighbour phoned back and said another person picked up the dog and is keeping him!!  This is an older dog and it just galls me if someone let it out
 and left it.

Next was an email that asked for me to "click"....well no I don't think so. We had ordered a fridge  from HD in the city but this email was from another one?? Kept forever on the phone waiting for someone to pick up.....ended up phoning a number and the lady was kind enough to confirm delivery for me. I told her we didn't order from that store but they do all the deliveries she said. Shoulda said that at first store. Will inform them when we go in to the city and that store again. This was ordered Aug 30th!

All's well that ends well.
I am sure glad that dog has a warm home to sleep in tonight. :smitten:

Good morning everyone. 55 now and will be raining by noon  time. I will get another hew CNA at noon time. I do need a back message and my left shoulder, too. Wish I had  that replaced years ago. At the age I am now I wonder if it could still be done. I so dislike being put  out because I never really wake up till the next morning.

SHIRLEY  I have been going to bed earlier since the time change so waking earlier although this morning was 6:30 instead of the 5:30 all last week. never had Vista but I loved the XP. After Incredimail closed down and no way to make stationery anymore I started getting disgusted. Then Yahoo was sold and t he new owners got rid of all the PSP groups I lost interest. Really the SS is about  all I go online for and a few games of Mah Jong and Brains Breakers jigsaw puzzles. Spent a few hours watching Mash on the ME channel. That is one program I never minded watching  more than  once.

RAMMEL  my grandson said t his HP lemon has room for a second hard drive. Very slow starting in the mornings now. I have a big 2T external drive I save every thing to and it  is only half full.  This is the second external I have, the first one was full and it  is now sitting there making me wish I had a port to plug it into. I have a lot  of Joan's (BIS)stories on that  one even from the old SN. I sent this HP back to them 2 times and then they sent one of their smart (?) gurus here to work on it. What  a joke t ha t was. He was in his mid 30's and said he knew everything there was about computers and this was his seventh career change. I almos t laughed at that one. My grandson majored in computers in college, was hired by a company in his last  year as an intern and still working for  them. They have sent him overseas several times to set up new offices. I asked him if he knew every thing about computers qand he said no, they keep changing and coming up with new things.

AMY  those mean jerks who drop off dogs and cats anywhere I would like  to drop off in the middle of nowhere and left to survive on their own. Glad that dog was picked up by a caring person. Like you I like the no news is good news. I like thinking that Jane's family is so happy with the result of her surgery they are jumping for joy. Still it would help her cyber family to hear from them.

The office people here took yesterday off and I bet the witch takes today off, too. A nice long week end for her.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Okay, latest attempt to contact Lloyd & Nancy a bust, maybe. Talked to a nice guy at the Warrensburg, MO VA clinic. He couldn't tell me anything about Lloyd, if even listed as a person registered to them, but said he would do what he could to look them up to let them know "the cyber world of Seniors & Friends wants them to know we are concerned about them". I did explain that this had been a bad year .... AND I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH LLOYD! They are okay and hope to have internet set up next Tuesday!  Boy, that guy at the VA was fast!  I did get his gr-daughter's name & phone number but will not give out to anyone but who/whom ever will be the keeper of names. Nancy was concerned about anyone calling her since she is a teacher.  Oh, the house is in their gr-daughter's name.... and he got a big laugh out of Patricia wanting to call the police!  I told him they will be the best know couple in the county since Amy called feed stores, etc..... SO, I do think it gave them lots of warm feelings that we had been concerned about them.  And now I've got things to do before my son shows up tonight to re-wire my outside light & remove the glass sand filter he put on the well line to keep the sand out of the sprinkler heads. Supposed to get our first freeze tonight... wind blowing like crazy & cuts right through clothes.

Good Afternoon,

Glad to read the news about Janie and praying her recovery continues well.

Also glad Lloyd was "found".  I had quite a chuckle at the "detective" work.

My Tablet crashed on Tuesday.  Only things that would open were two games and Netflix. DIL worked for almost 2 hours to fix it and finally, with my agreement, "scrubbed" everything on it and started over.
I've managed to get back the four solitaire games I play every morning and almost all of the web sites I check regularly - even thought I had to re-register and had forgotten some of the passwords.  The thing I missed most was access to the e-books I rely on.  PC was fine but I don't like sitting at a desk to read.

I could access all of the forums and personal information here but had to re-register in order to post.  Not sure all of you realize that "anyone anywhere" can read everything on this website without registering.  That's why I don't post any detailed personal information.

Gloria and Rammel, my PC is a HP all-in-one.  I don't particularly like the plug-ins for cds and flash drive being on the back and had to get used to new versions of some of the available programs for writing, business forms, etc. - but haven't had any problems with it.

This has been a pleasantly busy week. Several "small chores" that I'd been putting off got done and I've had a good visit with several family members.

And that's what's going on in my corner of the world.

Callie, you are right about anyone being able to read our posts & why I never mention online when I am leaving home, my understanding is that these gangs (like the one that broke into our house nearly 33 years ago) operate all over the country & do check all the various "media", chat rooms, Twitter, etc... & contact groups nearest of "fair game".  Long ago visitors could not see the photos or post, not sure if they can get into our membership to see where each of us lives......

Patricia, Lloyd's comment when I told him your suggestion of having the police help was, "they might want to arrest me".... and laughed more. The guy at the VA was impressed about our links around the world "talking about what we old folks have going on in our lives".  Does anyone in here have a way to check up in case YOU don't post for a while?  I sent Rick my phone number & later the same day realized that wouldn't do any good if I wasn't here to answer so sent him my son's. My kids all know how important y'all are to my life. Besides, if people know they are being judged "around the world" if they don't treat us right.... hey, if it makes them nicer it's a good thing (as Martha Stewart would say).

Oh, one time when our internet was down I did go to the local branch library where people can use their public computers online. At that time I was careful to delete all cookies & history when I got out, but at least could notify anyone that would have missed me what was going on.

I've gotta get busy & clean the place up. Have a fly buzzing past my head so very annoying. I keep 2 fly swatters in this long room & they always seem to be in the same spot... at the wrong end of where the fly is~~

Glad to hear Jane is on the mend. When I had dental surgery many years ago my ornery brother came to the hospital with a card that had a packet of "instant food particles" for someone that couldn't eat. It hurt to smile but made an impression. He never offered sympathy when I got a boo-boo as a kid.... with scraped knee & hands he had a comment like, "chasing a mouse?"  :'(

Shirley, that's why I do not post my last name or give an exact location of where I live.

;D  at your pesky fly.  Those black flies come in when I leave an outside door open for only a minute or two and I'd swear they follow me around the house.  Read somewhere that flies can't see you swing the swatter if they're turned away from you.  It does work - IF you can catch them in that position.

We're supposed to have a Hard Freeze tonight but I haven't covered anything.  "Pot garden" plants have lasted longer than usual, anyway, and I'm ready to get rid of them..

There's a t.v. movie I want to watch so I'd better get to the kitchen and find something for dinner.

Enjoy your Evening, Everyfriend.

A thought for all - Thinking about Shirley's comment above. I'm willing to keep a list of "Contact Information" for emergency/important use if so desired by S&F members. It would and should only for instances like Lloyd's (Health Check) or obvious immediate need. Someone else should also have a copy of that list lest I can't be reached or computer crash. If I am to maintain a list I would want the info emailed to me (or a PM here would be good) with a request to add it to our "emergency list".
Any further comments about this?

Good morning everyone, boy did we get  rain with strong wind yesterday, sure glad I did not have  to go out. Just  pulled the shades up and very foggy, pea soup fog? Glad again I don't have to drive in it. Only  35 now and not much above freezing. Now I am hoping to have some good news about Jane.  Amy you are the contact for her family and wishing t o see some good news before I get to the end of the posts.

SHIRLEY  glad you had the patience to call around and finally found Lloyd and Nancy. I would not know how to start or what to say. The more I am alone the less I want to talk. Hardly any social life here anymore and that must make the witch so happy.

AMY  if one of my brothers was still alive he would love your raison pie. Our Mom made it but  I never liked it and he was always asking if I had her recipe. All her recipes were in her head, never had one written down with her handful of this or a pinch of that. I need to measure everything when I baked. My daughter after making some thing a few  times will do  that handful or pinch,  she does a lot like my Mom did and she is named for my Mom.

CALLIE  I have had nothing but problems with this HP since day 1.

AMY  thanks for this update on Jane. Glad they are keeping her in the hospital long enough to make sure she is well and healing so she can go home.

SHIRLEY  when I first moved here and before I had cable installed I went down stairs to use a computer in the library  to get in here. Now none of  the  computers there work. She does not want to spend the money to have them worked on so those without  computers can use them.
I know several who enjoyed  time in  there looking things up or playing games. Not many have  their own PCs.

RAMMEL  at one time my daughter did join but never had the time to really get involved, I think I should tell her about this and perhaps my oldest son. My daughter living off  the grid now and had the dish on the roof is not  as stable as cable -if Cox can be called stable.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good rainy morning..

No hanging laundry out today :(

Went into town to pick up a few things before the stores get busy. Bought silicon mats for baking, has anyone used these before?

Gloria, I love raisin pie ,but I don't add sugar to mine.I think the raisins are sweet enough.........just a splash of vanilla and a hunk of butter after it is thickened and into the pie it goes.  I never measure and had some filling left over so it went into a date square minus the dates :)

Phyllis , good to hear you may go home next Wed.

Patricia, how are you??? Did you get more snow or just freezing weather?

Callie, too many lurkers and bad people out there that plague the internet.

Shirley, did you get that fly? Seems every time I pick up the fly swatter to go after a fly they hide!!

Better get my work started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

It's a beautiful morning, we have FROST on the ground so maybe the pollen count will go down! But, speaking of going down, it is raining bright yellow sweet gum leaves. The ground is covered so I will go out with scooper paddles & put some in bags, shredder first. So far I haven't found anyone to hire to mow with bagger. They are so lazy all they want to do is ride around & mulch so they don't have to pick up or empty baggers.. gripe-gripe

Nice to see you girls (Jane & Phyllis) are getting sprung soon. Keep up the good work when you get home, "drink lots of water & keep working on those muscles".  Next young pup that says that to me might get a "knuckle sandwich"!  >:(

You snuck in, Amy. I am sorry to say the thought of a raisin pie is more than my mind can cope with. That youngest brother of mine convinced me back when we were kids & visiting Grandma's house, that the raisins in her prune cake were dead ticks. One of the uncles lived with Grandma & always had those spotted bird dogs that ran free, woods all around & they would get ticks that were as big as my thumb... Everyone was encouraged to pull them off when we were outside. My stomach churned at the thought but the brothers not only pulled them off but would chase me around teasing they were going to throw them at me.

Oh, the joy of ornery brothers! They didn't tease my sister or girl cousin her age, they would have gone crying to mothers. Besides, they didn't hang out with the boys & I did. I didn't like the French & German dolls they played with, not that I was ever invited into the bedroom where they were stored. My father had 3 brothers & one sister, the girl cousin was the daughter of that sister so had "rights" to her mama's things. All those thoughts go along with raisins being cooked in anything. I do eat them out of the box, not the same, I even enjoy hearing about cooking with them (kinda like horror movies). I am teasing you, you know, what's a sister for?

Amy, I can only imagine how good they are for the body, all that iron in the raisins. Crazy that I still have a mental block about eating them but won't eat a cookie or roll without picking raisins out & embarrassed to do that if anyone around.   That darn fly just woke up so have fly swatter & waiting....  Leaves are calling, off I go.  :P

Carol, nice to see you in here. I used to love driving, days I could drive for miles but anymore it is a chore. People passing ,cutting you off, not stopping for stop signs. Seems they are in a hurry to meet their maker. I usually to 6 miles above speed so I don't dawdle.

Good morning every one. Had a bit of a scare here yesterday late afternoon.  I was on Skype with my daughter and she heard it and I even heard it on my life line. A tornado warning, fierce thunderstorm and heavy rain. Well it did start pouring and I could hear thunder. Of course I shut the PC and the
TV off. We have had worse thunderstorms without all the scaring on everything about a tornado warning. Was surprised to hear the warning on the lifeline.

PHYLLIS  Last week I did text my grandson by speaking into the iPhone, it went through and he answered me. Typing in the text thing is not for me. You will feel so much better when you get home again.

AMY  do you make your date squares with oatmeal? I have my MIL's recipe and the top and bottom is made with the quick cooking oatmeal. Used to be a pain having to cut  the dates but now buy the chopped dates so goes faster.

SHIRLEY  after the fog cleared away yesterday morning it turned out to be a beautiful warm day. This morning there is a frost again.

AMY  I don't like raisins at all and will pick then out of everything  eat if they are in. I have a recipe for tarts made in piecrust and calls for raisins. I used to make them for special occasions but used cut up dates instead of the raisins.

CAROL  nice seeing you here again. Thought you deserted us. I  remember one Christmas day when it was so warm the kids were outside with sweatshirts on and no jackets They were riding their bikes instead of sleds or ice skates. Sure did not feel normal.

I have been awake since 3 this morning so think I will go have a nap. If I don't get some sleep now I will be ready for bed around 7 later and that is way to early.

Have a good day everyone and be safe.

:pineapple:  :pineapple:  I can break dance!! Went out to put  apple peelings in the compost, hit the back deck and my feet started to dance! ICY!! Had more moves than Quaker's got oats. Just glad I didn't kiss the deck and too early for anyone to see. I hope!!

Gloria, yes I do use oatmeal..Kyle is not a fan of date square but I will use blueberry or cherry pie filling instead.

Amy, your post reminded me of several Amish books I read recently about the women having "quilting bees" to raise money to help neighbors in need.  My sister used to make baby quilts but they were machine sewed.

Good Afternoon,

Gloria, I'll bet you were surprised at the tornado warning! Isn't that unusual for your part of the country?

Amy,   I think you had a "didn't-break dance"!  :winkie:
My dil (mother of The Grands) makes tee-shirt quilts. She uses tee-shirts from collections of school/activities that various family members have collected,  trims and appliques them on the front, then uses "themed" fabric for the backing.  She's begun doing them "for pay" now that she's finished with the ones for family.

Jean, these quilt tops that are done will go into the group I am with and someone with a longarm machine will finish them up. From there they will go to cancer patients to use. We also send quilts to camp for kids with cancer.

Callie, I never knew my feet could move that fast but yes thankfully there was NO break from the dance. The quilts your DIL makes are difficult to do as she is working with stretchy material from the tee shirts. Some will use  stabilizer in back but I think your DIL has the best idea on appliqueing them on. What a wonderful keepsake she is making for others.
