Que Sera, Sera
(Jay Livingston/Ray Evans)

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, "what will I be?
Will I be pretty?
Will I be rich?"
Here's what she said to me:

Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera, what will be, will be

When I was just a child in school
I asked my teacher, "what will I try?
Should I paint pictures"
Should I sing songs?"
This was her wise reply:

Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera, what will be, will be

When I grew up and fell in love.
I asked my sweetheart, "what lies ahead?
Will we have rainbows
Day after day?"
Here's what my sweetheart said:

Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera, what will be, will be

Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother, "what will I be?"
Will I be handsome?
Will I be rich?"
I tell them tenderly:

Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera, what will be, will be
Que sera, sera!

FATE

Woven on the fabric of time
.....fate spun her illusive web
She dealt to us the cards we hold
and watches how we play.

Life is but a constant struggle
.....and often seems unfair
Unwary folks get trapped within
.....Fate mocks their foolish ways.

The strong grab hold her silver thread
.....and dance along her lines
Always facing each new challenge
.....laughing at adversity.

Beyond the limits we impose
.....she patiently waits to see
How we arrange her silver threads
.....Within life's tapestry.

If I Could Be
by Kathy J Chrisley

If I could be young again
I'd want to be like you.
With all my bright tomorrows,
I'd be starting all anew.

I'd set my goals as you do,
I'd make plans and see them through.
I'd reach into the heavens,
And pick a star or two.

I'd ride them throughout life,
And I'd make my dreams come true.
Yes,if I could be young again,
I'd want to be like you.

To My Granddaughter Jessica With Love

Good morning..

Tis a winters wonderland outside and snow is still falling. Doubt if this will stay but it sure looks beautiful outside!!
Many little chores to do this morning in town.

Bubble, thank you for the new start page. I first heard  Doris day sing   Que Sera Sera .

Better get ready for town, then home  to chase dust bunnies.

Enjoy your day stay safe.

Good Morning, Friends! Going to be a little warmer today & not as windy as tomorrow so those leaves on the ground (mine & more from down the street) are begging to be picked up. My tree is still full of it's gold leaves so crazy to have someone do a major clean up when it will be much deeper in a day or so, from my tree & more from down the street. Shame I can't put up a fence to stop them blowning but can't fence off the street. You should see them fill the street when the wind is just right. That's how it is and how it'll be as long as I live here!

Tom & Callie had their breakfast salmon & both went out to potty before coming right back in to sleep some more.  Tiger isn't up yet. So now I'll fix me an egg sandwich & do a load or two of laundry. I got 6 hours sleep last night, good job, Shirley!

Lloyd should get his internet back tomorrow and maybe Jane will get home to tell us good night, I don't sleep as sound as when she sends her blessings. Hope everything is going okay with her.

Hey, Bubble, thanks for the new page & another thanks for the link to the background music to you, Amy. I'd love to see that snow.  I recall one year when Bubble posted a photo of snow in Israel, when was that, Bubble?

This is not getting my egg sandwich made so I can get on with the day. A Merry Monday to all (including you, Callie).  ;)

Good morning everyone, for the first time since we turned the clocks back I woke up just after 7 instead of around 5am. I do feel awake  though. 39 now and looks like we had some rain overnight. see some small puddles in  the parking lot, sky is a beautiful blue.
Just heard on  the news new cars will be scarce, get  your name at the dealer you want so they will keep one for you. What next will be in short supply. If every thing was brought back here and made in  the USA they would be made better like every  thing used  to be.

AMY  as long as you did not get hurt wi th the earluy break dancing who cares if they saw you having FUN!?? I never thought of using a can of pie filling for those squares. When my oldest son got older he always asked for a cherry pie instead of a cake for his birthday. OK by me. always found it easier  to make a pie than a cake.

CALLIE  was really were shocked at that tornado warning  even coming from my lifeline. At first I could not think of where a faint  voice was coming from. Tornados are unusual here but there has been some. From that warning I heard coming from my lifeline i t got to me.  Three hit in the state in south county near the Conn. border. This was a first for November though.

FLAJOAN  nice seeing you pop up here in the Soda Shoppe.

BUBBLE  thanks for the mid month goodies, great graphics and I could hear Doris Day singing in my mind with that song.

AMY  thanks now listening to Doris Day, I liked her acting and singing. Not hing as beau tiful as t he first snow of the year covering everything and shining in the sunshine. Hope t he roads were good going into town and not icy.

SHIRLEY  I remember when Bubble post ed t he pict ures of  the snow  they had. I s till think snow is beautiful  ------ to look at  at least....... ;)

I will be happy to see JANE and LLOYD and PHYLLIS  back to posting every day.

Have a good day and stay safe

Gloria, is your daughter still painting?  I remember several years ago you showed a painting she had completed on one of the forums.  I thought it was lovely.  I always admire someone with such talent as I have none.

Amy, glad you weren't hurt when you almost fell.  I remember falling on the ice when we lived in Illinois many years ago.  Nothing broken (young bones) but I was sure embarrassed.  Don't have to worry about the ice anymore now living in Florida, but I do occasionally miss seeing that white stuff coming down.

Bubble, nice Thanksgiving graphic and poems.

Shirley, I like those egg sandwiches too, but I like to add some crispy bacon and mayo on the bread.

Good Evening from the
much cooler and sunnier , rocky
coast of Maine.

I am glad to see Jane is improving and hope that
she is able to get up and get moving
soon, so she can start her recovery sooner
rather then later.

We are now entering the dark days of our
Winter Time ..  but it won't be long,
(Dec 22) when the tide turns and the days
start to get longer again...

Not my favorite time of year, but
as Doris Day sang,  "Que Sera Sera"
what ever will be will be."

Have a good week,  EVERYONE!

Post by: Shirley on November 15, 2021, 07:47:58 PM
Sandy, and this, including winter, is my favorite time of year. My whole system works opposite from "normal" people, a fact I've come to accept and admit. I like rainy days, loved the weather when we lived in England, always liked winter better than summer and dark/cloudy rather than bright sun.

My father spent either 2 or 3 weeks when he was in his 50s, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St.Louis while they tried to find out why he passed out in "sun or heat". In the end they didn't find a thing but told him "he must be allergic to sun rays so stay out of it".

I had my first sun/heat stroke at 18, didn't go to the doctor but from then on have been careful to not get over heated or in the sun too long. Isn't it great that we all aren't exactly alike?  I have mellowed out over the years and don't push my body to extremes, feel like I have the last 2 years with Covid, not just to do what I want but to keep going. Age is the factor.

It always makes me happy when someone seems content with their life. I'm a terrible example as I gripe about so many things. I have choices but all goes back to feeling like I have a duty to take care of these cats and that controls what else I can do. But I do have a great life and should be appreciating what I do have instead of wishing for "freedom" to just roam.

Today has been a day of remembering, one of my older cousins funeral. Weather predictions were for snow/ice or rain in mid-Missouri so I didn't plan to go. Turned out to be nice so I regret not making the trip. Glad you mentioned Dec.22 and the days getting longer. Pushing for spring and we haven't had winter yet!

Amy, glad you didn't get hurt, we really do have to remember how to "tuck & roll" when we fall, or be able to tap dance like you did!  I had every intention of pulling out the tomato plants today but the early dark got me. I did get about half of the dumpster filled with leaves, maybe 1 in 50 from my trees & the rest from "down the street". Wish I could find someone that would actually mow & pick up but watched the mowers a few houses away as they ran the big mower over, no bagger attached to their mower & then blew all the leaves to the yards on either side and those in the curb any way but away from that house! Not one leaf picked up. The lady is in a re-hab or retirement home and for whatever reason, doesn't want to sell the house. The house next door to that one has been empty for nearly 10 years because the lady is in a retirement place and obviously doesn't need the money. It takes a lot of money to pay for utilities & all the maintenance to keep them in good shape. And so it goes.........

Good, Amy, it's really important to make the mind WANT to get moving & if they are giving her meds to cover the pain, may slow down the thinking (does for me). I saved a quote long ago about the damage it does for "us older people" spending time in bed. I'll see if I can find it.

"A rough rule of thumb for nurses and physicians is that for every day an elderly patient spends in bed, 1 percent of muscle mass is lost. "You'd be surprised how quickly it can go below the point where you can safely stand up and move".

Monday evening HELLO‼️ This past week just passed so quickly.....PT 3 times a week and swimming when I can.

We did drive up to see Jonah, his mom and dad on Saturday.  He is so proud of his new home and had to show us all around. It took us one hour and 10 minutes to drive there but 3 hours to get home with  traffic and a accident on the freeway! Ugh😩

Yesterday was Bob's Birthday, so we went to Dr. Dave's for a fun dinner and party.  Always fun to be with the family and friends.

So pleased to read Jane and Phyllis are both improving and may be able to leave the hospital sn.  Hope and pray MARYPAGE is doing as well too.

Bless all of our group that are suffering.  My heart aches for you, Beverly.  I know you miss your life partner, Chape. Two friends passed this last week, and one cannot be but sad to know how hard it is for the remaining spouse to go on.  I watch my son trying to do his best to be mom and dad to his three children....

AMY, so glad you did not fall....coming from one who continues to suffer daily from that one fall I had coming upon 8 months ago now.....I am petrified of falling again‼️‼️ It has changed my comfort of walking, etc.  STAY UPRIGHT IF YOU CAN, EVERYFRIEND ‼️

Enjoy the week to come....and pleasant dreams‼️

Jenny

Good morning everyone. Woke to the baseboard heat  banging away. Wonder if this new maintenance guy can fix that. It has bothered me every winter since I moved here. I can give it a bang with my foot and it stops. Funny it only happens in the middle of the night or if it  happens during the day when the TV is on I just  don't  hear it. Maybe I should get a radio and keep i t on all night  with soft music playing and I will not hear it. Is there such a thing as a radio station playing soft music these days?

AMY  thanks for the latest on Jane and she is in my prayers every time I  think of her and that is several times a day. They don't have Jane up and walking around yet? That surprises me. Yvette just had her knee surgery and they had her walking the next day.

FLAJEAN  my daughter is still painting but since I posted her paintings in that forum she has moved to the boonies in Arizona and not taking lessons anymore. She does 2 special ones a year now for her 2 sons for Christmas and of course I still get emails of what  she paints. She says I am her best critic because if I don't like something I tell her so. They now live an hour from town opn the side of a mountain, no more San Diego noise and traffic.

SANDY  bad enough the days are getting shorter but feels like it is mid afternoon when I have to start turning lights on.

SHIRLEY  I always liked winter better. Not because of the daylight but for the cold temperatures. I keep trying to do things like I used to but the body is wearing out and just wants to sit quiet or lay on the couch and watch TV. That I don't like, really makes me feel  the 90 I am. I never liked sit ting in the sun, get dizzy. OK go ahead and say it.....just a dizzy dame!!

JENNY  I have a fear of falling these days after what happened to me in February. That wasn't a fall as much as a passing out from too many antibiotics from the new dentist where I go took 2 teeth out. The rest of them have to be extracted but now I am afraid to have  them out . Never was before.

PHILLYFILLY  hello and welcome to the Soda Shoppe.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning..

We are still looking at snow on the ground here ,temp is 23°.Busy day ahead, taking quilts and fabric to a lady after a visit to the dentist.

Jenny, love the new avatar of "Best Buds "

Gloria, there must be some FM station that plays soft music. What about a cd player? I put on Ildivo or Nana Mouskouri ,never get to the end of the cd before I am asleep.

Patricia, good morning. Winter weather is staying......so far here.

Better get my duds on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I'm busy baking & cooking & fixing birthday dinner for oldest son & wife, their birthdays are "back to back" so old mom is having a field day!

Where is Lloyd?  He was supposed to get connected today. It is a windy one here, leaves are dropping faster than expected so need to get food delivered by 4:00 pm & home to pick up more leaves. Cool down starts tomorrow.

I'll check in later, must get myself organized. The house is starting to smell good, 2 dishes of chicken baking in butter & all the herbs & spices used for fixing pheasant under glass. I always peeled potatoes & cut in quarters to cook with the chicken, fresh garlic smells good if nothing else, right?  I will saute an onion (sliced & quartered) in butter & then drain a can of green beans about half down before dumping into the onions & cook it down to almost dry. If you happen to like fried onions this is really good for you. My pineapple upside down cake did not turn out like hoped, got side tracked & didn't get it out of the bunt pan fast enough so some stuck to the sides & bottom. Had a layer of brown sugar, covered over with pecans & walnuts and then the pineapple slices so I wouldn't have to ice.... Haven't made one for quite a while & forgot it has to be taken out of the pan before that brown sugar hardens! Oh, well, they can spoon the crumbles over slice of cake, huh?  :-[

Enjoy the day! Remember back in the old days when we'd go on hay rack rides this time of year. A chance to snuggle & sing.... and just be happy!

Long day, wagon dragin..
Had a great day after the appointment.

Lloyd , great to see you finally made it in here. Now we are going to nail your shoes to the floor so we don't lose you again!!

Now this is a message for all but especially Shirley..I was told by Jane to post this.

I wish everyone a peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow! (So Shirley can sleep)
Shirley those are Janes words. :)

And I am here to hear them!  Thanks to Jane & to you, Amy, for bringing the welcome words!

Yea, Lloyd & Nancy found their way back!

Am sleepy from cooking & baking all day. Food delivered and some for myself for tomorrow. The leaves really dumped today so gotta get busy tomorrow so the bags can go out for early Friday pick up.

Gloria, we do have an "oldies music" station that stays on all night, no commercials... but my problem is thinking the words instead of going to sleep!

I'm ready to hit the sack, feels like it should be time for 10:00 pm news but since I quit watching news, I don't have any "point of reference" these days. I'm sleepy & that's all I know.

Good morning everyone, 28 now at  4:30 am. Will no t get too warm today but tomorrow in the upper 60's, really crazy weather. Phone rang when I was on Skype yesterday, the lady in charge of the CNA's. Well they are short handed and I knew that so  today instead of a CNA she will send a home maker. Today is the day laundry gets done but  she does not cook or give my back a massage either. I will have to call her later. She has been helping the one in charge but talking with her yesterday She is now the one in charge, the one who was was fired. I know no one was happy with her. I am supposed to get 13 hours a week and was luck to get 8 or 9 hours, my insurance is the one who wants the 13 so they would not like paying for something I am not getting. I don't like it either. Home maker today due at 9am, one reason I have to call later, that hour is not good for me. Knowing I had  to get up and dressed early I did not sleep at  all last night.
I talked to Yvette last  night. She is not happy right now. Taking lots of pills and in a lot of pain  The pain she was not thinking about before the surgery. She said she is doing nothing but laying on the couch and sleeping.

AMY  there is one local station the played music/songs from the era I listened a lot but now play  noise that is so called music that just has a few words and notes. I do have some classical CD's, especially Chopin, could listen to his music all the time with a few others mixed in.

SHIRLEY  about now I would like a nice big slice of squash pie but no CNA to help me. Do not like pumpkin pie and in bakery  departments in markets they never have squash, only pumpkin.

LLOYD  welcome home to you and Nancy. We sure have been worried about you, so glad you are back with us at last.

JANE  your have a peaceful sleep reminds me of Joan spreading or sprinkling angel dust  to send us to sleep.

Think I will go lay  on the couch, I might s till get a couple of hours to sleep.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good morning...

Not much sun today and possible rain , starting out at 28° that could be snow.

Not sure what is going to happen today. Lots of work to do but will see.

Gloria, we are the same temp here. Seems everyone is short handed, we stopped at DQ yesterday but doors closed only drive through open. We did get our sundaes  Kyle just wanted ice cream and I got a Dixie Bell. Chocolate and butterscotch sauce and lots of pecans...one a year does me.
Jane was up yesterday for a walk.

Lloyd. so happy you are finally back in here. Hope both you and Nancy are keeping well.

Patricia, where are you? Sort of like calling Car 54!! Hope you are feeling better.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Hooray!  I "found you".  We have fire in the hills just west of Denver and a plane crashed yesterday - grim messages on the t.v.  I think it was one of the fire fighter's planes.

There is very little snow here - only enough to make it slippery.

Thanksgiving will be here and I am glad I bought a frozen turkey more than a month ago.  Stores are not keeping up on the holiday essentials.

How sweet it is to "find you" -

Good Morning,

Shirley, More than one cake that was supposed to have filling between the layers turned into "pudding cake" and eaten with a spoon.  Your chicken dishes sound delicious.
The cottonwood trees behind the fence have finally turned yellow and begun to fall.  We've had "off and on" rain since they began and it's been too wet for the HOA lawn service to pick them up.  Fingers crossed it happens soon.

Gloria,  so sorry there are so many issues with your Home Help service.  Makes it hard to get things done.

Radio stations here are either "talk talk talk talk", what I call "screech pop" or country/western - which is becoming more "pop" than traditional c/w.  The local college station plays "classical" but it's symphony or string ensemble (with a lecture beforehand) and I prefer piano (love Chopin) .

Jenny, I remember the traffic snarls on I-25 and am sure they're worse now than they were...ohmigosh  :o...47 years ago (can't believe it's been that long since I lived in CO).

Lloyd,  good to see you back.

Amy, thanks for the updates on Janie.

Today will be food day.  Grocery order will be delivered this afternoon and it's "dinner date" night with son. He's bringing burgers/taters from our favorite place for that sort of thing.
I recently made Molasses Ice Box Cookies and formed the dough into several "logs".  Recipe said to "freeze for 5 minutes" before baking and I baked one log as directed.  Stored the others in the freezer and will try another log today to see if long-term freezer stay will work.  If so, that will be a great way to have fresh-baked cookies if someone comes on short notice.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Wonderful Wednesday.

Good morning from an Interior at 3 degrees presently. Our lows have gone to the minus twenties so that means no snow until any humidity returns. We've seemingly returned to more usual winter weather.

Today, everyone over sixty-five, which includes most residents here will receive a holiday care package from Fairbanks Wellness Coalition. I'm wondering what it will be as this group is new to me. We will also have a hot Thanksgiving dinner delivered door to door on the 25th which will be nice. It's for what we normally would go to the dining room to prepare and serve via our hospitality committee. This year and last, they would place a foil wrapped paper plate at your door and knock before continuing further.

Alan and Dora had hoped to be able to host a dinner this year but as with 2020, it was not to be. We're still having our morning call or text around to check up on everyone which is comforting. They have three new dogs as people always drop off the unwanted cats and dogs in the foothills which is horrific knowing they're not equipped for the cold and wildlife. Everyone in the neighborhood has been trapping or collecting those found and keeping them in garages or calling animal control. They hope to find new homes but that hasn't gone that well in the pandemic.

Amy, it is wonderful of you to let us know how Jane is doing and Lloyd is so nice to see you back posting with us!

I've had a few sniffles and sneezes the last few days but seem to be over that and back to usual

Patricia, I hope they find homes for the dogs and cats. I can not understand why these stupid people would not take the animals to a shelter/dog pound.  They shouldn't be allowed to have an animal.

Just came back from trimming the dogs nails next door..dropped off some blueberries that we purchased in the city...great deal. 99¢ for 6 0z. .

WELCOME HOME, PHYLLIS. Take it easy and let your body regain the strength you need.

MYCHAEL, your message was great.....and so easy to read😘

Thank you, AMY, for sharing how our JANIE is doing and for sharing her words with us.  We miss you JANE🥰. THANK YOU for noticing my new avatar🥰

Welcome back, LLOYD‼️ We were worried about you, and were so thankful to hear it was not you being sick in the hospital‼️

SHIRLEY, you are such a sweet mama......cooking and caring about your family.  I know they enjoyed your meal🥰

GLORIA, I am sorry for you having to be without Yvette....I know this lack of her help is very hard for you😩

HI JACKIE‼️  Are you having winter weather there yet?  I hope it won't keep you from getting out n your scooter if it has!

CALLIE, I can assure you that when ever it was you dealt with I 25 traffic, it would have been  NOTHING like it is now!  It is awful 😞 I would happily go back 47 years ago and have Denver be what it was then❣️

Welcome PHILLYFILLY..  Thank you for letting me know that MARYPAGE has posted.

PATRICIA, we still have not had a drop of snow yet this year.  We have not had snow here in 280 days I head on the news AND if we do not get snow before the 21st of this month we will have broken the record of the latest snowfall ever!  Your Thanksgiving Dinners that are delivered sound very nice, but sad they do not come FOR Thanksgiving.  We have a terrible forest fire near Estes Park.  Last night a company had their first ever night time retardant drop, but sadly it ended in a crash of the plane and the pilot died.  So sad, and a terrible set back for this, what we hoped to be a wonder advancement😩

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good morning..

Mild here 45° with rain in the forecast., at least we don't have to shovel that. The poor folks out in BC are suffering from rain and mudslides. Many major highways washed out..farmers trying to get their cattle to high ground but many have perished. They have been told to dump the milk as trucks can't get in to pick it up. Grocery shelves are bare. In the summer they fought fire and now this.

Domestic duties today (thank you Callie).

Patricia, enjoy your meal on the 25th. Always nice when one doesn't have to prepare a meal. We tried the canned turnip last night along with air fryer chicken. Chicken was delicious but I don't think I will can turnip next year.

Gloria as some can attest in here help is hard to get ,especially good help. Yvette is a God send for you and  I hope she is soon back with you. When we had our friend living here he could or we could get home care for him. Some we loved to see come, one didn't get back in the door a second time. We would always ask for this one girl if we had an appointment in the city. She was special and the two got a long like a house on fire.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jenny, before I forget to mention.... that avatar is one photo in a million and something you must have printed & framed, at least several copies, to save for Bob & you but one for Jonah for when he is grown. Next is go get one (careful not to look posed) of you holding that young'un. They are that age such a short time & it will remind you of ALL your grands when that age. How's your dad doing?

Amy, I have a cousin that's been doing research on dumping milk on pastures to see how much better it works than artificial chemicals. Don't know how it came out (research) but I've been dumping out of date milk on a rose bush ever since & I picked the last rose yesterday! So awful to watch the damage caused my "Mother Nature". I'm a believer that the earth is in constant change & while we do have responsibility for some of the bad, we didn't cause the change of the Petrified Forest or the fact that so much of Kansas was under water years ago. My mother used to talk about "that fertile river bottom land" but everyone realized it could be a good year or bad, depending of whether it flooded or grew a bumper crop. No politicians to make something out of it~~

And I have to get me in gear to pick up leaves, had a good look when I filled the bird feeder. Today's crop looks to be MINE right under the tree but twice as many from trees NOT in my yard! Right now the wind isn't blowing so I should be able to catch & mulch as long as the old body holds up.  I've searched the internet for a "better way" to clean them up but short of riding a mower that bags, 'tis just old fashioned labor...rake & scoop up! I have an idea but only will let you know IF it works.

Good morning everyone, well I did get  a home maker yesterday and  the laundry got done. Boy some of the people who like a paycheck but  do not want to work are really getting on my nerves. She said she would have to do laundry  and  that is all she did. She said they did not tell her she had  to do dishes or make the bed or anything.  I just erased what I wrote about  some foreigners, letting my frustrations out. Then remembered anyone can read what I say. Grrr about lazy people. I still feel guilty because I can no longer do much of anything. I was watching the one I had Tuesday polish the furniture, she would go around every thing and not  move anything a fraction of an inch and I can see the dust around every thing. I need Yvette back or Fran more. I know Fran wants more hours and she has 2 other clients in this building, one across the hall. SHUT UP GLORIA.
54 now, warmer than it was when I went to bed last night, the weather guesser did say it would warm up overnight.

AMY  wow you mean that Jane was up for the first  time to walk around? If so she must feel weak after all that time in bed. Seems they get folks up so fast these days, I know Yve tte was up beiong walked aroung the day af ter her knee surgery but when I talked to her a couple of days ago she was saying the pain is horrible and not something she thought she would have.

CAROL  no snow here yet in Rhode Island and I remember years when ponds were frozen and kids were on them skating before Thanksgiving. Still getting more rain.

CALLIE  when covid hit and schools closed a lot of the help at  the home help places had to quit because they had young ones at home and no one to be there with them. Then they were getting paid t o stay home  and find they like it. Oh I bet you are like me prefering piano and like Chopin and still miss those wonderful Sunday afternoons when Don shared his music with us on Sunday afternoons. How he would say the names of some of those composers when I couldn't  even try to say them. I don't know about anyone else but  I st ill miss him and his great  record collection. Your Molasses Ice Box cookies sound good, bet I know someone who would like that recipe. I have a greatgrandson who loves anything with molasses, just  like his grandfather.

PATRICIA  where my oldest son lives people have a way of dropping off cats. My DIL is such a softy she would take them to a vet get them checked over and fixed and keep them.

AMY  that 99cents got the blueberris is cheaper than it is here, $2.00 is more like it here.

PHYLLIS  welcome back to your own home. You should start feeling better now where you can res t and sleep without being bothered with people waking you for pills or anything.

JENNY  knowing I have to get  through 3 months of lousy help before Yvette gets back but then she will be out 3 months again when she has her other knee done.

AMY  I have no patience with anyone who gets paid to do a job and sits and plays with her smartphone. I told her 3 times yesterday  to put  her phone away and she mumbled some thing in her foreign language. That rubbed me wrong. I wanted her to leave early and she said she couldn' t because she didn't know how. I told her call the office and  they will tell you how. I will be calling the office later and talk to the boss, she may hate me when I tell her I do not  want this last new one to come here ever again. I really need a CNA who can give my back a good massage to ease the pain.

Enough of my complaining, and I dislike complaining.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Just heard from Jane's daughter.....Mom had a rough day yesterday..hopefully today will be a better day. Drs are optimistic once we get over these humps. She did get up and walked down the hall.

Jane is a fighter..she will get through this but take a moment or many to say a prayer..or many for her please..

Good late morning from the Interior, it is cloudy and minus five at 9:31 AM, and Jenny, I would envy your lack of snow except we would have ice to go with it. I can imagine for Colorado, no snow is a huge surprise! I have relatives in Montrose, Grand Junction, and Ouray, so I'm familiar with that part of the country, less with the Denver area.

We have our daily snow dust, but I doubt if we've reached an inch so far this winter. The weather report says to expect a cold wave beginning tomorrow and going into early December, so I'm not expecting any real snow, if any. I saw the news of the crash and am so sorry.

Amy, that is terrible news! I read about that yesterday, but other than a mention, the report focused on the US west's similar woes. I can attest to the lack of home help. Many local agencies preface their incoming calls with a lengthy waiting list for assistance before you are directed to their different departments.

I'm not a fan of turnips, so that I wouldn't have them anyway, but a mash isn't too bad slathered in butter, gravy, or sauce! I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and couscous last night. After grinding salt and pepper into a center well of the moose meat, I dumped most of a container of fresh salsa into it before sealing and cooking. I think I'm going to make that again!

I'm looking forward to that Thanksgiving meal on the 25th! The folks on our hospitality committee are all great cooks. They bring a delicious small iced cake with a single candle and sing happy birthday on everyone's birthday. I know I look forward to that and they always have holiday meals. Before 2019, they were either outside or in the main lounge. Now you get door-side service!

Amy, thanks for keeping us up on Jane. I know it's hard, but I believe that slow is better; taking your time healing can prevent issues later.

Amy, I check for news on Jane each morning as I'm sure we're all  in her corner and she knows that! Thank you again for keeping us informed.

When it gets cold, the auto emissions and smoke plus chemicals in the air freezes into a visible fog or vapor we call ice fog. This causes the DEC to issue air quality alerts and want us to fix them. And unless we ban cars and wood-burning stoves that isn't happening, unfortunately. Here are the alerts we just received.

Air Quality Alert

Friday, November 19, 1:00 PM AKST

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM AKST FRIDAY...

The Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Alert which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 1 PM AKST Friday.

North Pole has a Stage 2 alert.

Fairbanks has a Stage 1 alert.

Good Thursday Evening,

Phyllis,  so glad you're home and have posted.

Sandy, Hope it's been a very  :hb3:

Amy, thank you so much for reports on Janie.

Jenny,  traffic has gotten worse in the years I've lived here, too.

Shirley,  I agree that this old planet has had major changes over the eons.  Ice Age, Dinosaurs roaming around, etc. etc.  People were undoubtedly living during those times - and it may just be our turn now.

Patricia, I learned to fry okra and make black-eyed peas when I married a Mississippi native but I told him he'd have to go to his mother's if he ever wanted turnip greens or turnips. Turned out he didn't like them, either.

Been a busy day and I'm ready to "crash".
Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Patricia, I look forward to hearing how Jane is also. I know the phone is kept busy there with all Janes acquaintances and family calling. I try  to hang on till I hear from the kids.....but it is hard!!! :))) My son has met Janie and I so envy him those meetings..I do get the hugs though that she sends. Any operation is not without problems and I hope Jane is on her way out of that hospital soon!!

Good morning everyone. Have help coming at 9:15 t his morning. Not good for me. I do no t sleep good knowing I have to be awake and up when  they ge t here so I can let them in. I have to have a talk with the one now in charge.  There are mornings I do not wake up till 9 and I sure cannot rush anymore. Just an old slow poke now.  42 and rain in the forecast. I would like to see some big white fluffy flakes coming down. I think Shirley would like to see that, too.

AMY  from the way Yvette sounded a few days ago when I  talked  to her she will be out the whole 3 months. Before she had the surgery she was saying  tha t she would be able  to drive in a week after the surgery but she was not  thinking of the pain she is having. It  was more a repair than a replaced knee. I don't  think she ever really experienced pain before. Good to read that Jane was up and walking, much better than just being in bed and not  using any muscles.

LLOYD  wow 11 hours sleep. Great, I am happy  to get 7 a night but last night got 3. Second time  this week.

SANDY  HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY. :hb3:

AMY  my thoughts and prayers are with Jane all the time. I think we all really miss her being here every morning and again in the evening. I know I sure do.

PATRICIA  looks like mankind started polluting the air when  they first discovered fire and burning wood  to cook and heat. Cannot  blame our generation for that.

CALLIE  this town has changed a lot in the more than 70 years I first moved here. A lot of mills in town where people worked and 2 bus routes, one to Providence and one to Woonsocket-the closest city. Not everyone had a car and we had several new car dealers, now only used car dealers. People from cities started buying land and moving here and then got into politics and wanting street  lights all over and the conveniences of city living. There were a lot of markets all over  town, a department store, clothing stores and shoe stores. Did not have to travel elsewhere to get what was needed. Now mills are all gone, either torn down or made into condos that a former governor began sending homeless from cities  to live in and  they brought  trouble with them so they had to increase the small police force. NOW people have to travel miles  to go to work. We had a movie  theater, several drugstores and little neighborhood stores all over town.  This is a big town with many different villages. This they call progress?

I think I have taken over Shirley's soapbox.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning..

We have snow covered ground this morning with a temp of 31°.

Making a pot of chicken soup this morning, it can set on the back of the woodstove and I can clean out a cupboard that's bugging me!! I have ordered the fabric to go along with the puppies for sale panel but it won't be in till next Wed. May start another caner quilt until then.

Gloria, we get that here also..not impressed with them and they miss out on Gods lighting at night. Can't see the stars in the city so they don't know what they are missing.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

  ,  JaneS!

Dil and I had a wonderful time together yesterday. It had been months since we'd had a "Just the two of us" day. Soup/sandwiches/cookies here for lunch and then she took me to a "maintenance" medical appointment.

Asking prayers and healing thoughts for my other DIL.  She's 51 and has had four back surgeries and both hips replaced. She's developed terrible pain around the last replacement and, after multiple CTs/MRIs/etc. last week, the diagnosis is that the "stem" on that replacement is loose. (I didn't understand Google explanation of "stem") .
Orthopedist says the stem can be replaced but recovery time is 4 weeks to 6 months, depending on how hard it is to get the old one out.
Son is still recovering from double fusion back surgery last summer and you can imagine how badly this news is affecting them. (They have no children).

On a happier note - I was able to renew my car tag and my driver's license at the same time this morning.
Process for license with Real ID sounded complicated but was easy-peasy to do on-line last week.
I also expected a long wait at the tag agency but was the only one there.  Guy who runs it is usually frowning and grumpy but, today, he was smiling and very chatty.
Unexpectedly pleasant experience - and ALL DONE!!!!!

Lunch time and then laundry time.

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning.

Going  to be overcast day 25° out there now. Counter top is in so picking that up this morning..

Going to finish up cleaning that cupboard/pantry. Got sidelined yesterday and need to get it done. I did make chicken soup so lunch is taken care of  for the rest of the week!! :2funny: Can't just make a small pot of soup.

Callie, prayers for your DIL and hope her recovery time is short. Nothing like doing things together in that family. How is your son progressing on his surgery?

Gloria, lets hope they will send somebody that knows how to work! I don't understand how workers can go to a place and not work yet hold their hands out for the paycheck. Times sure have changed and not for the better.

Phyllis, so good to see you here. Take your time and don't rush it...easy does it as the saying goes.

Lloyd, hope you got a good night sleep...

Shirley, are you busy preparing for Thanksgiving dinner?

Patricia, I think our "warm" weather has past for now. From here on in and will have colder temps and they are calling for snow on Mon.

Better get ready..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning AMY and everyone else that follows. it is 49º and sunny here now. I rested pretty good. I have already hooked up to the machine and sent my vitals to V A. I have to do that first thing every Morning. quite of a machine, it takes my blood sugar reading I get, per% of oxygen level and heart rate.it talks to me through doing each  them all them and tells me to have a good and then send the report to VA on line.

Good morning everyone, every thing is covered in frost again outside and it is 27 now at 8:05, makes me wonder jus t how cold it got overnight. The sun is shining so it should warm up.

AMY  just this place has so many lamps around the parking lot it is impossible to see any stars but even wi th that a car was stolen from almost under a light  a few years ago.

LLOYD  I slept much better last night, over 8 hours and feel better today. I just cannot  sleep at  night when I know I have someone coming so early in the morning.

PHYLLIS  cold here,  too, this morning and I pushed the thermostat up to get warm. At times in the winter I wonder if it feels warmer when the snow covers everything.

AMY  you mean Jane was peeking in here? Must mean she is starting to feel better.

JANE  if you peek in again know that you are missed big time and many prayers are said for you.

CALLIE  of all the orthopedic doctors I have seen only one  talked about surgery before he even saw my back and he was kind of pushing the surgery. Arthritis just cannot be taken out of the back and I have seen enough of them as it is. One  told me  that no guarantee with it and might end up spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair. I pray your son and DIL have some relief soon from what they are going through.

AMY  one thing tha t really gets me is people who come t o this count ry and don't bot her to learn the language and then ecpect us  to unders tand them. Seems mos t of these workers lately have been foreigners. I feel like telling the one in charge to send Americans only or those who can speak English. Yipee looking forwa rd to Monday and Jane going home.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning,

Fingers crossed that Janie will be home soon.

Phyllis,  it's great to see you!  You're not slow; you're just doing things "leisurely".

Amy,  son is slowly getting back to "normal". Still not comfortable sitting for very long but has set his watch to remind him to get up and stretch during working hours. He's currently having p.t. to stretch scar tissue that had formed around the abdominal incision and was affecting his sciatic nerve.
Thanks for asking.
They are having her Dad/brother and family at their house for Thanksgiving.  Son usually does the turkey in his fancy smoker.

Have learned that Miss Ellen and a few others are having a "Friendsgiving" dinner. She and a friend who is also a celiac (very gluten intolerant) are doing the cooking.  Others will bring their choice of drinks and help pay for the food.  She will be home for a week over Christmas.

I have "politely declined" joining either "in-law" family.  We all get along but my hearing issue makes group conversation confusing and mobility issues make moving around in a crowded room difficult.

The only holiday I insist on having with my family is Christmas.  However, many years ago, I opted for Christmas Supper at my house because one family celebrated on Christmas Eve and the other on Christmas morning.  It's become a tradition for everyone to come here late afternoon for either "hearty" snacks or something easy from the slow cooker. Then we have a rousing (as in "the neighbors may wonder... ;D ) game of the domino game Mexican Train.  DIL and I have decided on "hearty" snacks this year.

Nothing on the agenda for today except OU and OKState football.

Wishing you a Satisfying Saturday, Soda Shoppers.

Good late morning from a chill Interior at minus 26 degrees and both a wind chill and a stage 2 air quality alert. Ironically, we have perfect air quality  99.8 % in the summer, barring forest fire smoke and so many winter issues.

Gloria, I also have anxieties keeping me from sleeping before appointments.

Amy, I had chicken soup last night, but I have enough left to feed an army or at least this floor!  It is lovely to hear about Jane and Monday!

Callie, so sorry to read about your son and DIL's medical issues. A good friend of mine is going in for similar surgery in December. Unfortunately, her family lives too far away. Another friend is planning to keep them informed for Thelma.

I hate going to the DMV for a state ID! If I had to get a driver's license, tags, or whatever, I'd take a sleeping bag!

My hearing is also not that good anymore. It is one reason I took early retirement.

I've never played a game of dominoes. However, my group can get rabid during a game of 7 card stud. That is if we can keep the guys out of the bank...it's filled with oreos!

Amy, we're diametrically opposite per our winter temperatures!

Phyllis, you heard, I'm sure that old saw about "Slow and steady wins the race?"

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND‼️

I continue to have so much pain in my so called GOOD SHOULDER that typing is very uncomfortable.  I can read your great post but have trouble using my arm to type. My therapy is going great.  I had therapy on Tuesday and Thursday, then worked out at the pool Wednesday. My therapist asked me to take a few days off and let my shoulders rest a bit as I have been doing way too much ‼️  She is very happy with my progress.

So pleased to hear the continued progress JANE! Thank you AMY for all the updates.

PHYLLIS, so good to see your posts and to read you are getting stronger every day🥰.

SHIRLEY, thank you for the sweet comments on Bob and Jonah's picture. I plan to do exactly what you said😘

PATRICIA, the mountains are getting a bit of snow, but not enough! A couple of ski areas hoped to open by TGivng, but have been forced to delay.  A good friend just moved to Montrose, so I have been watching the temps there regularly and they have been very close to ours here in Denver.

GLORIA....not very encouraging news regarding YVETTE possibly healing sooner so she could be back sooner😩

CALLIE, sorry to read the news about your DIL and the hip socket.  I returned to my surgeon to see if that might be the problem with my hip pain, but he says no, it is soft tissue pain!  Prayers for both your son and DIL.

Got to go...this ha# taken me forever to type.

Have a good rest of your Saturday.

Jenn

Jenny,  I finally asked Google the right question and found out what a "stem" is in hip replacement surgery.

What is hip replacement stem?

During the procedure, surgeons insert a stem into the patient's femur, or thighbone, for stability.

That's why she's having such pain down her leg .

Off to get a meat loaf in the oven for dinner.

well I could not go to sleep, so got up and came In here and by accident I learned something new. I use a mouse to work this laptop computer. I was using the wheel to move around up and down, I accidently pushed down on the wheel hard, and it put  it in gear so you can put it in the bodiey of your printed aria and it will go up or down fast or slow enough to read at your likening. it is a wireless mouse.

Good morning...

Warmer this morning temp is 31°. A day of rest here today..just coast for the day.

I always check my mail to see if any news about Jane, no news yet and will post as soon as I hear any.

Callie, meat loaf to me is comfort food. Good hot or cold in a sandwich with hot mustard.

Jenny, hope your shoulder stops hurting soon!! Constant pain is not good.

Patricia, I made biscuits to go with the soup yesterday. May end up freezing some soup...we shall see. Have a new bread I want to try...will find the recipe and post it.

Gloria, we have lost most of our snow but never fear it will be back on Mon so they say!! We used to have camp fire at night, roast hot dogs and  roast marshmallows. When the fire had died down to just coals.....lay back on a blanket and look at the maze of stars. We would try to pick out different constellations.

Lloyd, who says you can teach an ol person (young at heart) new tricks? Good for you on learning this.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, no frost this morning but feels damp and what  I just  saw on t he TV will be cloudy most of the day and tomorrow rain. Cloudy for Thanksgiving, too.

PHYLLIS  glad things are slowly getting back to normal for you. I could read your post so the font size was OK. Did not need to squint or get up tp the monitor to read it.

CALLIE  my grandson always has Thanksgiving dinner but this year I am hesitating. He also has parents, brother, me and then his in-laws. This year one of my DIL's sisters and BIL showed up at  my son's without notice. They just drove in from California.  If David invites them, too it  will be pretty crowded and I cannot take a crowd anymore. I will call David later and check with him.

PATRICIA  when I was still working and setting the alarm clock every night I would try getting early appointments on Saturday mornings then I had  the rest of the Saturday for shopping or whatever I felt like doing. Now no alarm setting and sleep and wake when nature says to. Some mornings I wake early and some late. At my age I think I am allowed to do that. This company knows I do not want  anyone here before 11 am and  that was  the second time last week she sent someone early. I have to talk to her and straighten her out. I know they are short handed especially with CNAs but that is what I need. She sent homemakers all week and they cannot give me a back massage. Heck some cannot  even wash dishes right. After they leave I have had  to was dishes over. Wonder if they eat on plates that have bits of left overs st ill on them of drink from a mug that has a coffee ring around inside. I don't, I like mine clean.

JENNY  the doctors told Yvette she would be out of work for 3 months. This is the first time she ever had surgery and she never had much pain before so she was not  prepared for the agony that pain can be. I am about ready to call my doctor to see about  getting a cortisone shot in my left shoulder-the good one. About  a month ago I twisted it somehow while doing some thing and it keeps getting worse. After 8 years my right  one still feels good. Wish I asked at  the time how long the replacement lasts.

LLOYD  I wonder how many of us found that out by accident about the mouse scrolling up or down for us to read without us moving it.

AMY  when I used to stay over at  my son's when I helped at the orchard I would go out on t he back porch and lookup at  the sky. No lights back there and the house blocked most of the light from the street light. So nice looking up at all the stars and picking out  the dippers and others. Never can see stars here, too many lights in the parking lot and on the front porch and corners of this building.

JANE  hurry home, you have been away too long and are missed so much.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning!  Sunny and chilly here but I am up and beginning to get my usual routine going.  Finally got all my e-mails straightened out...what a lot of junk mail I get!

I actually cooked  a small meal last night so I am getting my strength back...slowly.  Planning to have spaghetti in the InstaPot today.  Still keeping it simple.

I want to thank EVERYBODY here who has been so encouraging to me when I was feeling so sick and down.  You are all good friends even though we have never met.

Hope to hear from, or about, Jane today.  Think about her everyday and send good thoughts and prayers her way.

Take care, All.

Good morning Amy and Lloyd. Amy, I'm thinking about making more biscuits to go with my soup again. I make small amounts as I don't think they store well, even in the freezer. I prefer them fresh, hot, and flaky. Then I eat too many!

 :cheer: YAY for Jane!

I can make up a quick pot of soup or stew, use the slow cooker or on the back of the stove all day with leftovers, herbs, and spices. I'm getting so I rarely follow recipes or at least not to the letter. I start too many times to think, "What if?"

Good morning, Gloria. I set the alarm because of my insomnia. I need time to go to sleep, to do breathing exercises to relax and turn off my thoughts, and still wake up multiple times at night. If I don't keep to a set schedule, it's even worse, and some nights I haven't slept, and then I crash during the day, and it's harder to get back into a rhythm again.

For me, a routine is best. I try to do the dishes immediately and tidy up as I cook. One habit my mother taught me, and I'm surprised at how many don't, is when I put back a dish or a piece of silverware, I put it on the bottom, underneath the others. This way, I'm evenly rotating what I use. Since I spent cash and time buying containers and scouring YouTube videos for ideas over recent years, my apartment is organized and uncluttered, with a few exceptions. I want to keep it that way, so I put things back after use and try to have a place for everything within its site. Of course, barring Farrah, I don't have a roommate, so it's routine now.

CNAs and homemakers are still in short supply or back-ordered, so I feel for those who need help. It simply isn't there as this city climbs out from underneath Delta.

I have never seen the stars here because it's 24/7 daylight in summer, and there's cloud cover in the winter. If it isn't cloudy, it gets frigid with no clouds holding in the heat. Plus, with the earth's curvature in the Arctic, many eclipses, comets, and other space events aren't viewable. When I spent those years in the South, I never had time to stargaze with work and my family.

Sounds like a winner, Lloyd. Lloyd, long time ago I used my husband's bench vice to crack nuts, works pretty good & doesn't splatter them like I was doing with a hammer! Hickory nuts are also hard to crack. I used to bring some back from the campground at the lake & crack them for the squirrels here. Wasn't any on the ground last time I was there. They did cut out quite a few of the trees.

Bedtime in Kansas. Hope everyone not home in their own beds has a peaceful night, hugs to all, and all snuggled in their own beds, sweet dreams! Pretty chilly, will see if Callie wants to come back in for the night. One night this week it is supposed to be unusually warm so they may want to stay out. I will get sound sleep if they do. Tom & Callie are having problems & my utility room floor will have to be replaced "someday". They have a litter box in there and get a fresh training pat every day, but Tom soaks it over the top even though I bought the largest & thickest they make. Not sure why he does this, he manages to use the litter box in my bedroom without any accidents. It is getting serious with the two of them but will be such a challenge getting them to a vet or even having the one come to the house to put them to sleep. They will fight & panic at another human getting near them. Not a pleasant thought but difficult to keep up with their accidents these days. Don't want to think about it. They love sleeping outside when not cold. I'm heading to bed.

Good morning..

I hope today  is the Jane that Jane is sprung from the hospital!!

We had a light dusting of snow...doubt if it will stay when the sun peeks out. Domestic duties this morning after we get back from town. Froze the chicken soup and will make a different one today.

Lloyd, I had not heard of walnut crust and had to look it up. Here is one I came across.
https://www.diamondnuts.com/recipe/walnut-pie-crust/

Shirley, would you or rather could you give the cats Rescue Remedy?? This is just drops and maybe something they really like can be doctored up with it?

Gloria, the odd time we would see a shooting star and a wish was made!!Kyle used to get the cortisone shots in his shoulder and they really helped for a while.

Phyllis, good to hear you are slowly improving ,take your time.

Patrica, they were calling for more snow today but when I checked I don't see any in the forecast  .

Better get..

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good morning everyone, a gloomy raining one here. Have not heard if I get help today and I really am getting disgusted with this company. Then I just might spend my day laying on the couch with the TV on. Only way I can get through a day like this. Had trou ble getting TV onto the local channel. Was getting all this crazy stuff and trying to get away from it I got Tubi channel and Our Miss Brooks was on then had to use the  Contour on the remote to get where I wanted to be, local news. 52 here and 52 in Arizona where my daughter lives. Never saw that before.

PHYLLIS  know how you feel catching up on everything after being in the hospi tal and  then rehab. I felt  that  way in the beginning of the year. Never did cat ch up on all email just  start delet ing most  of what came in those weeks and only read what was important to me.

PATRICIA too cold where you are, guess I will stay where I am.

AMY  thanks for the updates you post about  Jane. She sure has thoughtful daughters and son. Wish my daughter could come here but then I am not  as ill as JANE has been.

LLOYD  walnuts in a piecrust would be tasty.

AMY  I had sho ts in my right shoulder before it  was replaced and one back doc put some in my back but when he wan ted me to have one every month I said no. I always heard no more than 2 a year  because it makes our bones weak.

Have a good day and keep safe.

Rainy today but we needed it and it isn't snow!  Please, all of you keep it up North, or in Alaska, for awhile.

Amy, do you ever slow down?  I hoped we would hear that Jane came home today.  Fingers still crossed.

I actually felt like cooking dinner yesterday.  Just spaghetti in the IP but it tasted good.  Couldn't have done it without David's help but we made it.  I'm doing better.

Lloyd, walnut pie crust sounds good but you can have my share of the deer meat.  Sorry, I'm not a fan of deer meat.  But, sounds like you are keeping very busy.

Shirley, that's warm for this time of year in Ks., isn't it?  Or, maybe I've forgotten.

Gloria,  I deleted most of the emails, too.  They are mostly junk, anyway.

Take care, All.

I've been & read half a dozen times today but don't see my purple replies. Really???

Amy, I'm not sure I can get anything past the cats to help their fright, I've tried over the counter stuff from the pet stores & even children's Benadryl & they won't eat whatever I've tried it in. You'd think canned salmon would cover any smell or taste BUT........

Hope Jane gets sprung tomorrow & all is going well. Little by little our birds are back in the nests. Let's get through the holidays without anyone else needing ANY surgeries or getting sick.

My oldest gr-son's father in law has been critical for over a week, Covid. Diabetes & a massive stroke 10 years ago put him in nursing care. There is no hope of recovery because he has a Do Not Resuscitate form on file so that limits what Hospice can do. So sad to watch the family as they stay with him, but at least they are allowed (in full cover).

We were doing the same with my mother (over Thanksgiving) in 1988 when we first moved to this house. I spent from the end of Sept until she died Nov.25 back & forth from the center of MO to the center of KS. But I didn't have 3 little kids to worry about during that time. My gr-son can handle taking care of everything, but I have taken over a couple meals during the time. Never a good time for death but the holiday will carry that memory forever.

I have my lists to make up so I don't forget what I need to do next. I will start thawing the first turkey tomorrow... it goes in the oven Wed morning so I can have the oven ready for the next one Thanksgiving Day. It's all the stuff that goes with the turkey that everyone loves (dressing, noodles, etc). I hope to get back in but think I am losing control over TIME lately!

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

Good morning..
So nice to come in here and see Jane first thing in the morning! :smitten:

Our temp took an Olympic dive and it is at 14 ° at the moment. Baking and sewing are on my list for the day.

Shirley, this is an all natural product. I didn't think I could get it past Babe but she did eat the bread and meat that I put it on.

Phyllis, yes....when I get a moment I do. Not many moments at times though..

Gloria, hubby doesn't have them any more either and surgery is out of the question now. Dr said it would be like sewing up butter.

Better get ready, exciting day Janies coming home!!

Enjoy your day ,stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 28 and frosty outside. Rained all day yesterday  and these ole bones sure still feel it. Ano ther day with a home maker and no t a CNA so no back massage again.

LLOYD  enjoy that venison.

PHYLLIS  I would rather have snow, at least it does not bother me as much as rain and the dampness does. At times I feel like I would like to move near my daughter in Arizona where it is much drier than here.

AMY  hope and pray today is  the day Jane makes it home. It is always easier to feel better at home.

JANE  YIPPEE  so happy to see you here this morning.

AMY  baking will keep your kitchen toasty warm. It is on rainy winter days I wish I could s till bake. If I did manage  to get some thing into the oven I would never be able  to get it out out of this big oven. Oh well.

Have a good day and say safe.

How good to see Jane's message!  All is well with our Soda Shoppe world.  Welcome home, Jane!

Cold here but sunny this morning.  Not too bad if I don't have to go out.  David will go pick up the grocery order later this morning and he doesn't like the cold but the car will be warm.

I must remember to thaw the spare ribs for Thanksgiving, Shirley.  No turkey for us.  And, we decided to have spare ribs rather than our traditional ham this year.  We can still give thanks over spare ribs in the spirit of the day, can't we?

Must get breakfast.  Time is flying by.  Take care, All.

Welcome home, Janie!... Are you counting the minutes until sprung?  ;)

Gloria, have you ever had Regina check to see what would be available nearest her?  For sure the climate would help the aches & pains & getting to see & hug your daughter would be healing....

Amy, I'm putting that stuff on my shopping list, worth a try!  Have to scrub the utility room floor before I start laundry this morning. Any suggestions?  Way it is~~ thanks for the tip.

My gr-son's father in law died at 4:30 this morning. My heart is so heavy for all of them, no easy way to leave this world.

Better get moving. Tom & Callie ate & went outside, Tiger ate & sleeping on a furnace vent. It is a wonder this end of the house is warm with Tom sleeping in front of the toe warmer vent by the sink all night, Callie sleeping on the last vent going north & south and Tiger sleeping on one smack between Tom & Callie. They put enough vents in this double room so this old lady keeps warm without laying on one!  :D  ;D

'Morning, Phyllis.... I'd rather have ribs but can't imagine how many it would take to feed this crowd. Besides, can't have the gravy, noodles & dressing without turkey so we tolerate to get that stuff. Once a year isn't too bad.

Hi to all that stopped in already this morning, not going to go back to check for names 'cause I know the computer will eat my words if I do!

Everyone's had breakfast and showers, and nothing but laundry is on today's agenda.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for November 15, 2021

Tome, when I first heard about turkey & noodles over the mashed potatoes I'm sure my eyebrows nearly flew off my forehead. I could hear my mother saying, "that's starch on top of starch!" But my best friend of 40 years & my daughter-in-law of nearly as long grew up in south east Kansas and that's the way it's served there. Even the KFC in that corner of KS offered chicken/noodles to go over the mashed potatoes on their buffet.

My kids went to a little school on the edge of Wichita and the cooks at their lunchroom served those chicken & noodles, so when I started fixing them it didn't take long before it was as important as the turkey. Now I just buy 2 small turkeys to have one for the noodles with all the juices and add the drum stix to the turkey baked on Thanksgiving morning. Both get stuffed & extra dressing on the side and much of the breast gets sliced to go along with the main turkey so it's combined & couldn't tell which got baked first, it's a lot of food but the crowd multiplied. The last few years I've declared that I am retiring, but I volunteered "one more time" so am committed (should be). ::) The fun part is the rest of the women bring all the veggies & fruit along with desserts. I used to bake refrigerator rolls along with a cinnamon bread/twist that everyone loved but started making that for our Christmas gathering instead. I enjoy feeding my family, especially when the food gets rave reviews!

I did go out & scoop up enough leaves to fill the dumpster, and oops... the dryer stopped so must get clothes out fast....

Callie, so sorry to read about your DIL's back/hip & all, and the son that suffers with his. I do believe we can hurt more for our kids than for ourselves.

There has been so many with unusual problems lately I have sympathized as I read but didn't take notes. The last thing that goes through my head before going to sleep is to ask God to "be merciful to my senior family". That includes everyone we love, too. Fitbit tells me it takes about 4 minutes for me to fall asleep, that is how fast I say my prayers. Hey, I don't waste any time~~  So Sweet dreams and God Bless. Love y'all..........Shirley

Good morning..

Tad chilly here 14° at the moment. Taking hubby to the chiropractor first thing this morning. Not sure what is happening the rest of the day.

I am another one that has not heard of turkey and noodles but love them both so why not?

Patricia, that wind would cut right through you!! Did you get the predicted snow?

Phyllis, ribs are my favourite....they win out every time. Are you doing them in the IP or oven?

Gloria, by the time the pie was done it was still too warm for supper but we will have it today.Choice of ice cream or whipping cream to go with it. Tried a new recipe from Rock Recipes , blueberry pie with cinnamon and nutmeg in it. Made a huge 10 inch pie that will be sahred with the neighbours and will put some in the hidey hole.

Lloyd, good morning to you and Nancy!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Welcome home, Jane.  So good to see you here just like normal.  Hope today will be a good one for you.

Amy and Shirley, as it turns out I won't be having ribs for Thanksgiving dinner after all.  A dear friend and ex-neighbor came by and left a "small box" on my side porch yesterday.  In it was the entire cooked ham dinner for Thanksgiving for David and me!  Ham, sweet potato casserole, pineapple casserole, green beans, dinner rolls, and cake for dessert! All I need to do is heat everything and, maybe, add a apple/walnut salad. I was overwhelmed with her kindness and thoughtfulness.  I do have so much to be thankful for!

And, I am thankful for all my friends and especially, for being home and feeling better.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone, a cold 29 now at 8:30 but was colder before the sun woke up. I did not  wake up  till just after 8 this morning. Slept good. At least I am getting a CNA today and will get my back massage.  The home makers cannot do that  and boy my back sure misses  the one I get 5 days a week.

PHYLLIS  if I was ea ting here today who knows wha t I would ge t pout  of the freezer, I know I would not be cooking a turkey. Only time I like it is on Thanksgiving day and just enough for a sandwich the next day and that is enough for a year.

SHIRLEY  I would not be able to live with the 100 degree temperatures they get even with the AC going all the time. Then again she said they have senior housing in town and they only get there once a week anyway. I like my 4 seasons here. Guess I am too much of a Yankee to move anywhere else.

LLOYD  that  is a high reading to start the day with. What did you eat  last night?

AMY  thank you for the good news  that Jane is going home today. Best news we had in some time. I wonder how many eggs it  would  take for me to beat  it. Love both cinnamon and nu tmeg and am wondering how i tastes in a blueberry pie.

JANE  welcome home at last. I know it felt  good to walk into your own home again. Now just take it slow and easy and not get into tearing the house apart cleaning. I know your daughters and grands kept it clean so you can  take i t easy.

PHYLLIS  wow that was a nice surprise for you and David. I rather have ham than turkey any day.

Have a good day and stay safe.

A Blessed Happy THANKSGIVING  Everyfriend , as it remains an event to be celebrated.
Thus call your relatives and friends whom are fully vaccinated
and chew down some  turkey, ham, dressing , pumpkin pie,
that is if everyone is vaccinated if not their loss :)

Remembering or reminding all
the Pandemic is not over

You have been there through all this, understanding

,thus my most gratitude for having you.

There is no amount of times I could write "Thank you"

that would fully encapsulate the amount of gratitude I have for you.

In recent years,

the lives of many people have changed.

But we will still celebrate "Thanksgiving" in one form or the other

I wish  you a Grand SAFE "Thanksgiving"

hopefully with Vaccinated family, all in good health, having fun to the fullest.

For we've learned in the past 2  years, it's that time is  such a precious gift :)

Let's spend it wisely OK?

Lets preserve it so I can send you a boring greeting again next  year ;O)
Happy THANKSGIVING

Janie, Good Morning and Welcome!!!    :balloons:  :grouphug:

Shirley, you remind me of my DIL's mother.  When Son married into that large family, it was "written in stone" that Thanksgiving was to be at Nana's house. In-law families and friends are always been invited but it's sometimes hard to feel really included when the conversation is basically between the core family members and those who are around them on a regular basis.

Phyllis, how lovely to have a real home-cooked dinner delivered to your doorstep.  Enjoy!

Mycheal, thank you for the lovely thoughts.

I found a web site for "walks through NYC" and watched one filmed yesterday as he walked the route of the Macy Thanksgiving parade.  It goes right by the store where Miss Ellen works! That's near Radio City Music Hall and commentator said that will be the densest crowd along the way.  She's working today and I hope she can get there through all the preparations.
She and a group of girls are having a "Friendsgiving" dinner and she/friend who is also a celiac are doing all the cooking.

 :pumpkinpie:  Soda Shoppers.

Good morning, minus 21 presently with warming up and snow forecast for later today in the Interior.

Jane, I'm so glad you're back home and with family to watch over and help. This time will genuinely be a thanksgiving for you and your family!

Gloria, I've often wondered about what living in four seasons would mean. Here, in this part of Alaska, winter lasts from Halloween to Easter. In the south, where I spent ten years, winter barely made landfall, if it showed at all.

Phyllis, what a wonderful and loving surprise that must have been! It says a lot about both of you!

Mycheal, what lovely words for thanksgiving; thank you!

Dora gave me some advice in our call this morning; she saw it on one of those house organization decluttering videos. You run your bath full of boiling water with a small amount of Dawn dishwashing soap. In this, you place all your inside refrigerator pieces and let them soak until the water cools down.

After rinsing and replacing, everything is so clean and fresh with no scrubbing and minimal effort. She tried it yesterday and said she was delighted with the results. I only wish she'd told me earlier as I just cleaned out my refrigerator recently and had a mess for quite a while!

Thanks, Callie, and to you as well.

Turned out to be a nice sunny day here..temp is 36° far cry from Patricia's!!

Phyllis, such a thoughtful friend!! Spareribs can wait for another day. Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner!

Callie, Friendsgiving sounds like a perfect name for the dinner for the girls.

Mycheal, we have already had our Thanksgiving in Canada. Each and every day there is always something to be thankful.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.....may your tummies be filled with delicious food and hearts filled with love and laughter with your friends and families.

I doubt I will have time in the morning  to get  in to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving so am doing it now.

MYCHEAL  always good to see you pop into the Soda Shoppe.

CALLIE  I never felt out of place at my son Mike's  for holiday meals/ I knew most of his in-laws   before he ever started dating Shirley while they were in the senior and junior years of high school. Now my grandson does the Thanksgiving dinner and the only new ones are his wife's parents and they are very nice and sociable.

PATRICIA  winter is beautiful snow time, I still think it  is beautiful even if I no longer go out  for a walk in it. I rather dress in layers in the cold temperatures tan stay inside near  the AC to be cool. Spring when the days s tart getting longer and t he leaves start showing on trees and the yellow forsythia bushes start blooming and then  the lilacs start blooming and fill  the air with their wonderful scent. Summer can be great with all the fresh fruit and vegetables especially tomatoes. I think most  of us long for native tomatoes till we finally get  them. Fall is beautiful when the leaves start changing color. No t this year here,  though. We had a storm jus t as the maples in front were changing and  the rain and wind knocked them off the trees and t hey were bare  too early.  No tubs in this building so I can not try that dawn tip for the fridge shelves. At times I would love to ge t into a tub full of hot wa ter and just  lay back and relax. A shower is ok. I have a shower seat and will si t on it and le t the water beat down on my back and that feels grea t. When my son had the addition put opn their house in the mast er ba th they had the whirlpool one installed. The keep telling me when my back is really hurting Mike will come and ge tme son ge t into it. No way could I ever get a leg high enough to get  in to it. When we had out house it had one of those old fashioned claw foot tubs and ge tting over the high side I could do easy. Those days ore sure long gone now.

I was hoping t o see a short post from Jane but she must have been worn out dressing and getting home today.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving one and all,

Love the card, Gloria, thank you! Happy to have Jane home, and Phyllis, what a great friend to be so thoughtful at a busy time.

I'm too tired to talk tonight, got the first turkey de-boned & the celery & onions chopped for the next one in the morning at 5:00am, plus the pot of noodles. I am worn out but the house smell is worth it. (Especially since I've been smelling those problem cats lately!)

After me picking up leaves this week and then hiring a crew to mow & clean up the rest, NOW the ground is covered with leaves from MY sweet gum tree. Ain't fair!  :tissue:

I doubt if I make it in tomorrow, at least until later in the evening. SO, Happy Thanksgiving to EVERY FRIEND. Sweet dreams and God Bless.  Love y'all.....Shirley

Good morning..

I will tippy toe and let you sleep..My friend and I are heading out to the city to do some shopping. She has not been in Costco and I can't imagine her reaction when she sees it! Men folk are staying home minding the "kids".

I know Shirley is up and about cooking!!

Jane, hope you spent a comfortable day and night at home. You were dearly missed!!

Gloria, I love the 4 seasons, each one has something special about it.  I know I may mutter about the dancing with Mr Snowblower or Shovel but it can be breath taking to see the snow first thing in the morning ,pristine and not a mark/track in it.

Patricia, they say rain for today..just hope it doesn't freeze .

Lloyd, there does come a time when we have to turn the chores over to the younger ones. Hope Nancy feels better soon.

Phyllis, now there is no work for you or David to prepare a meal...enjoy what your friend brought!

Sandy and Jenny, enjoy your time with your family.

Better get my city duds on..enjoy your day and stay safe..

Umm...leftovers will fit in the hidey hole. :)))

Happy Thanksgiving  to you!!

Not safe for passing but some thought they should.  :tickedoff: Couldn't see far in front of you  until on coming lights peeked through.

Shirley, what about getting a leaf blower??? Would that help solve your problem?

Good Morning everyone, AMY I read your post and it brought back a moray of years ago when I I was driving my truck over the road. I was driving up in Iowa, in a heavy fog. and a car came passing and into my Lane would been a head on except I swerved hard right on to the shoulder. He turned around and came up behind Me with his lights shining on bright In my merrows, I pulled it into a truck stop next and pulled around back. he got out and ran right up to me and said I sure want to thank you for your good driving. you could have killed my whole family. god closed my mouth and I said you are welcome. It Is 26º here this morning and clear here today. AMW would you re Post the recipe I think you posted about the nut shell pie crust. Have a good day everyone.

Nice story about your experience on the road, Lloyd. Could have ended so differently.

I know Jane is glad to be home but it will be slow going for her for awhile.  Thinking of her and wishing her well.

Yesterday was nice and I ate too much.

Take care, All.

Good morning, minus eight and quiet this morning. I overate yesterday and spent most of the evening on the phone.
In the afternoon, it started warming up, and the barometric pressure changes left my head aching. So I spent the evening in bed with my Kindle and some Tylenol. The rest of November and December weather will be similar ups and downs.

I agree about drivers, especially in these arctic weather conditions. People speed and weave in and out of traffic even when the ice fog is so back that response time is rare.

A good day after Thanksgiving Greeting to EVERYFRIEND 🦃

I sure smiled as I read your post JANE😘. So good to have you back in the fold.  Continued thoughts and prayers for you as you get stronger every day🥰

PHYLLIS, a bit of a tear in my eyes as I read about your neighbor delivering a full ham meal for you and David for your Thanksgiving meal.  How thoughtful🙏

SHIRLEY, my condolences to your grandsons family.  I understand the stressful time when a loved one is the late stage of passing.  So hard the family🙏🙏. I love reading about your food you are fixing for the family meals‼️  I would love your noodles and gravy over my mashed potatoes 😘

GLORIA, your Turkey Day card was very enjoyable....Thank you🥰

AMY, what fun to go to Costco with a friend to buy the needed supplies to get you through the winter‼️ I often wish we had someone to share the large containers you have to buy as we just do not have that much storage.

I hope you all had as happy and enjoyable Thanksgiving Day as we did. We joined our son, DIL and Jonah at DIL's parents home.  They prepared the most delicious traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.  It was wonderful.  We are so blessed to have been included🦃. We had to drive 40 minutes south to their beautiful home.  Her mother decorated their home to the nth degree. Big beautiful tree....just lovely. 🌲

The only problem with being the guests is NO leftovers😩. There were 8 adults and three little ones, so we pretty much ate most of the food, so not much to share🤪🤪

My typing arm is so painful I can barely type, so I am sorry I have not been posting.  I have taken three breaks to get this done so forgive me if I did not comment to all.

Enjoy this beautiful day and prayers for all who are in need.

Jenny

Good chilly morning..

Fur lined geemogootchies today starting out at 15° but I bet Patricia's temp is colder.

Better finish today what I put off yesterday. We went and had a visit with hubby's sister and then home to make Haluski.

Today is a good day to hug the fire.

Jenny, you sure are having a time of it with your shoulders. Hope they soon give you some much needed relief.

Phyllis, the Haluski is made in the IP.....takes all of 5-7 min. Take you longer to chop and put all the ingredients today but it is tasty. Sounds like your dinner was also!

Patricia, the past 2 years drivers have lot their patience it seems. Not paying attention to road signs or speed limit.

Lloyd, that was good defensive driving on your part.

Gloria, where are you??? Hope your computer didn't crash!

Jane, hope you are sleeping well at night and each day fines you a little big stronger ....you know the saying. ..one day at a time..

https://tinyurl.com/yckms9bv

Better mosey on and get the day started here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up, cats & me fed. Cats all back asleep and I'm tempted......Didn't get quite 5 hours sleep and my good intentions of scooping up more leaves kinda faded. It is above freezing but there is something about sleeping cats that is so relaxing. Besides, it is still dark out. Talked myself into a few more zzzzzzzzzzzs. Good to see you here, Jenny.  Sounds like a nice Tksgvg.  I'm sorry about your shoulder.  I was hoping it had improved by now.

Amy, what is Haluski?  New one on me.

Shirley,  I slept better than you did but I can't get awake.  I'd like to go back to bed, too.  Lots of leaves here, also, and we are trying to ignore them because it has been too windy to blow them up.

Wondering about Gloria, too.  Hope she is just recovering from dinner with the kids and not sick or having another computer crash.

Glad you are feeling up to looking in, Jane.

It's bright and sunny here but brrrr cold so I don't plan to step outside the door.

Good morning, Lloyd.  You sure have a lot of walnuts.

Take care, All

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My Thanksgiving dinner came through a tube and I can't wait until that is gone.  My daughter, Christy and I make up meals to take the place of the gunk in the tube.  I have an checkup appointment with the Dr who did the surgery on Tuesday and the feeding tube may be removed at that time.  I have mixed thoughts about that because I'm not sure what I'll have to eat.  But it's progress!

I hope Jenny's shoulder decides to behave and give her some relief.  It's no fun when you can't do stuff.  And I speak from experience.

I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for November 15, 2021
Post by: CallieOK on November 27, 2021, 11:49:46 AM
Good Morning,

Janie, I also hope that feeding tube will be gone on Tuesday.  This may sound  :crazy2:  but jars of "spiced up" baby food might be something to consider for "sustenance" until you can have the real thing.

The HOA lawn crew is supposed to take care of our leaves but it's either been too wet or too windy for them to have done so yet.  My patio and back yard are really needing attention.  I could probably manage to sweep and bag the ones on the patio but the ones in the yard would just replace them.

I enjoyed my Thanksgiving dinner, "catered" by Stouffer, Bird's Eye, Sister Schubert and Jello  ;D, while watching the entire Macy's Thanksgiving parade.  Don't think I'd ever watched the whole thing because I was usually in the kitchen.

Didn't mean to sound earlier as if I don't like being with dils' families.  Hubby and I became good friends with #1 dil's parents after son/dil married.  Thanksgiving was always at her mom's house and we were always invited. I continued doing so for quite a few years after he died. They're a big bunch and always lots of fun.  I took Southern cornbread dressing and that chocolate/cream cheese/Cool Whip pie to the first one we went to and those became my "permanent assignment".

#2 son married several years after his Dad was gone so I alternated - which was sometimes a challenge because both dils are from the same small town about 35 miles from here. Families know each other but don't move in the same circles, so to speak.
Timing got a bit awkward so when my church and others began having a Community Dinner, I volunteered and really had a good time. Was surprised to find how many people I knew came to that instead of having dinner at home and always enjoyed seeing them.  The event grew until it's now held in the local college's ballroom.

Then #2 son/dil began hosting her small family at their house and I again alternated. Covid interrupted that last year and, this year, I found I simply didn't want to make the effort.  Next year may be different.

Time to take down the Thanksgiving decorations - and get ready to watch the Bedlam football game between the two major universities. Both teams are "ranked" and it should be a good game.  I think I've said that I'm a second generation OU Sooner and All My Children are OSU Cowboys. Their team has a good chance at winning this one - but I'm not going to tell them.  :-X

Good morning, minus fifteen and a projection for going even lower and the coming week with no snow expected. Last year we made records for the earliest and most snowfall, and this year we're making one for the least amount of snowfall. 21/22 snowfall is 39% lower than the historical average this far into the winter, according to reports. And another wind chill, "Cold Wind Chill at Higher Elevations through the Weekend...

Wind Chill temperatures will fall to around 50 below at times above treeline in the White Mountains and along the Steese, Elliott, and Dalton Highways through the weekend.

Winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph at higher elevations and combine with temperatures of 15 to 25 below to produce the cold Wind Chill temperatures this weekend.

Locally blowing and drifting snow may reduce visibility at times, impacting travel through the area this weekend."

I'm sorry for all those going to school and to work as I remember those days well.

LEAVES, LEAVES, LEAVES.
Now lets just break that down, and start with a basic unit --- singular of LEAVES should be LEAVE.  Think about that - LEAVE.  I think that's what I'll do, LEAVE each singular one.

I live at the top of the hill and actually have no more trees that drop leaves. But our complaining neighbor who didn't like our tree dropping acorns (when we had that tree) has a huge oak tree that blow this way.  So I will LEAVE the LEAVES and let nature blow them away, likely down hill. They might not like that I do that but I have no trees and it's their leaves.
So they should LEAVE me alone about the LEAVES

I'll go take a nap.

Lloyd, I'm from Alaska in the Interior, the largest part of the state. Both of my parents relocated here after WWII in 1946, met, and married here. Interestingly, my father was one of sixteen kids from Joplin, Missouri, and everyone before him were farmers going back to the sixteen hundreds.  My father retired after fifty years with the City Department of Public Works, beginning as a welder and ending up as Dept. Head. Other than my father, his brother Kermit who moved to Washington to start a walnut orchard, everyone else remained in or near Joplin.

I'd as leaf leave this subject alone!

Just wanted to pop in to say a brief Nighty Nite to Everyfriend!  I read all the posts and it sounds like all of you did exactly as you pleased for Thanksgiving.

Callie, this is the first year in "I don't know how long" that I got to see the entire Thanksgiving Day Parade.  I guess you could say it was one of the good things about recovery.

I had a bunch of company the last couple days.  My granddaughter and husband were home from Texas and my grandson and his sweetheart were also home.  They all came to visit me.  And my son has come every day since I came home from the hospital.  I love the crowds but I'm really tired tonight.

I wish you all sweet dreams and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Another chilly one with temp at 9° F .  Yesterday turned out nice and line full of laundry blew out nice! Freeze dried first then dried :) Neighbour wanted some papers printed and we took those over to her. Her husband met me a the door and when papers handed to him he said ,I can't eat those!!This is the couple I take hot home made bread to. So when I got a moment at home I made them a cherry pie and we will take that over along with fresh whipped cream. In the summer she had way too many cucumbers and zucchini so she gave them to me.

Need to take the wood ashes to the dump and I do think the rest of the day I can play in the sewing room.

Jane, so good to come in here and see your post. You have a wonderful family to look after you!! Talked with David last night and he was in PA somewhere and said it was snowing!! Told him he should leave it there and not bring any home.

Gloria, did your computer mouse die? Hope you can soon post and let us know how you are..

Patricia ,bet you are a lot colder there.Once we get snow it won't seem so cold here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had snow overnight!  It's not laying on the roads and walkways but everything else is white!  Probably an inch or so...just enough for coverage and to hang on the trees.  Very pretty out the window!

I had another good night and I feel pretty good this morning!  We'll see how the day goes.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

No snow in North Carolina but chilly (45 deg.) and sunny.  I know we are lucky.  ::)

You are sounding like your "before surgery" self, Jane.  That is so nice.  Hope your day is good.

Good morning, Amy.  I'm wondering about Gloria, too.  Hope we hear from her today.

No more puns today.  I think Rammel woke a monster with his leaf/leaves puns.  But, it was fun.

By the way,

Good morning every one, I know I was here yesterday and posted but cannot find yesterday's post. That is usually wha t I see every day when I first get on the PC. I posted after Shirley was talking about going back to bed. Oh well nothing important anyway except happy to have Jane back with us. 28 here and a gray gloomy day. Does not  look like it will ge t much above mid 30's, Ahh winter is on the way. I think I am now res ted from  Thanksgiving day, I have no t done much bu t lay on the coudh and dozing on and off for 2 days. If I make i t to my son's for Christmas I think it might be the last time I do anything like that again. Jus t wears me out  too much.

BUBBLE  HAPPY HANAKKAH
wish I had found a card.

PHYLLIS  I think I am finally back to normal-whatever that  is these days-but don't think I will sleep the day away today. 2 days of being that lazy were enough.

JANE  tube feeding is not what anyone wants for Thanksgiving I sure hope and pray you can really enjoy your Christmas dinner with family.

RAMMEL  I will just leaf the leaves alone.

AMY  I did post yesterday but for the first time in ages I did no t wai t to see if i t pos ted. I know I looked for  i t this morning and could no t find it. If any thing happens Shi rley's phone number is  the only one I have to call.

Phyllis, yes that was fun..bet Rick didn't think it would go that far!

We discovered a  nest in one of the sheds!! There tucked between the push lawnmower and the garden tiller was the nest with 21 eggs in it!! Sadly to say they are all frozen now.
I did notice the hen coming over the fence and saw her digging in the dirt but never thought she has a nest!!

Good morning, minus 24 locally with the ever-present wind chill advisory. Other than that, I plan to hang out on the couch today.

.Cold Wind Chill at Higher Elevations through Monday...

Wind Chill temperatures will fall to around 60 below at times above treeline in the White Mountains, and along the Steese, Elliott, and Dalton Highways through the weekend.

Winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph at higher elevations and combine with temperatures of 15 to 30 below to produce the cold Wind Chill temperatures.

This city is on the valley floor to the east and south, straddling the foothills to the north and west. So temperatures vary depending on what direction.

Hey, Gloria, I went thru EVERY word pad & written note on a scrap of paper I could find and could NOT find YOUR phone number. I was sure I had it written down somewhere from the time you called me, but for sure I am not the one to be keeper of phone numbers!  I wanted to check on you if it was your computer or you being sick. When you get time I'd love to have you e-mail it to me so I can put it where I can find next time you go missing. I did find Regina's <smile>.

Between cats and leaves (and mine really are MY leaves).... the last couple weeks have been the worst ever for my head (me in general). Got the leaves under control for the moment & cats are doing better. Today is bright sun, not too awful windy and not even too cold for this time of year.

I bought me a leaf vacuum from Ace Hardware & when I got home my son was cleaning up the leaves under my sweet gum tree. He had the mulcher out & it pulverizes them so he was pleased to see how it works. He didn't think I needed the vac but I explained it would work in the pool area, and it does. He insisted on getting the John Deere out to see if it would start (had to use the starting fluid) & ran it over the whole front yard so now it looks nice & neat. My sweet gum still has some leaves as well as plenty on trees down the street that will stick to my front like glue. BUT, I'm not as rattled as I was last week with cats & leaves.

Jane, I can't imagine having Thanksgiving with a feeding tube so hope this nightmare is over soon for you & you get double servings of everything at Christmas! "Bless your heart" (and how many times did we hear our mothers say that?) you have not done nearly as much griping as you had a right to do!

I am seriously thinking about a trip to Sam's to just look around. I have been shocked at how much everything has gone up lately, all I want to get is a carton of the mini coke cans. I never need a big can to drink but will do it to not waste.... have been drinking ice tea to get off the Coke but don't want my body to get used to only good for me stuff. Every time I've gone to Sam's lately I have been in a hurry so don't just mosey around. Besides, I love their hotdogs & drink or their pizza combo and haven't had lunch yet. A lazy day after a week of cooking.

Patricia, I remember you talking about the walk to work & the photos of the park along the way, with all kinds of wildlife. Do you miss those walks? I still think I would have been happy living in Alaska, the dark winters and all, but have gotten so lazy the last couple years I am not sure I could deal with the adventure of it. I never used to think about needing a doctor somewhere when traveling, guess age has caught up with me. Too much thinking, better get off & go do something!

I've had a very slow day today but I'm getting around pretty good.  I can actually walk down the hall without holding on and standing a walking feel pretty good.  Frankie came after work today and is spending the night so she and her mom are having a good visit...me too.  It's nice to have the doggie here, too.

I hope you all have a good rest of the day!  I plan to do the same!

Took out an air conditioner today, closed a vent under the porch, and turned off the outside water. My son helped and that's good so he can learn what has to be done, as he will have to some day. I knew it was time to do that because of our new Christmas color scheme here. But it is getting winter like - damp and nasty out there. Neighbor put out his Christmas dec's today.  Every year I say I'm going to drive around the neighborhood and look at the decorations.  But for some reason I never got to do it. Maybe this year.

I'm having my first coffee this morning!  Christy gave me about 2 tablespoons of hers and a spoon to sip it.  It's wonderful!  I've had my bath an changed my clothes and I'm ready for the nurse and the therapist later this morning.

I hope you are all enjoying or will be enjoying your day as it dawns wherever you are.  I wish you a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

I couldn't seem to get my brain unscrambled this morning...slept too hard, I think.  It is sunny but chilly and breezy.

Good that you are getting back to normal, Jane, but don't rush it.  You know...."Slow and easy...."

Some neighbors here turned their Christmas lights on Thanksgiving night.  Then they take them down the day after Christmas.  Back to business, as usual.  Others put them up late and leave them until Epiphany.  We no longer put up outside lights but may put up a small tree later.  Christmas around here is just David and me and very quiet.

Thanks, Oldiesman, for the S&F Christmas decorations.

Gotta go.  Laundry day.  Take care, All.

Good morning everyone, This IS Monday isn't it?  No witch of her sidekick here and no maintenance man either. Last  day they were here was last Wednesday, all had a long weekend. Think I am finally rested from my day out. Sun finally woke up and it  is 31.

PATRICIA  WILL KEEP THE 31 it is here and the wind is pretty calm now. The 6pm weather on the news yesterday said we would have some snow overnight but no white at all to be seen.  :( never happened.

SHIRLEY  you worry too darn much about those leaves. Leave  them where they fall and Mot her Nature will  take care of  them and turn them into fertilizer.

JANE  the NG number starting with 232 is what I had before moving here and is no good. Don't think I ever gave anyone my cell number because I dislike  talking on it. My family is  the only one who has it. To me it is for emergency only like when Cox is out again. I know how good it feels to be able  to walk again and get the independent feeling back. Mike has had the same number for so many years I cannot say how many but  more than 35 years.

RAMMEL  in this building  the AC's have to be out  by  October 1st but this year the witch-er manager- did not  say anything because it was unusually warm at that time. Last time I went for a ride  to see Christmas decorations was almost 40 years ago the firs t time I went to my daughter's home in San Diego. My SIL took us for a ride to Candy Cane Lane A whole block on both sides of the road decorated and it was so beautiful it was hard  to know which side was the best. My 2 grandsons loved it.

AMY  when the witch decides  to come back to work they  will put the Thanksgiving decorations away and start decorating for Christmas. One lady that passed away left all her Christmas  things here. She had a collection of angels  that get  put on the top of the bookshelves in the library and boxes of ornaments for  the tree that is put  up in t here. She was  the only one who decorated in there. She used to put an animated Mr. & Mrs. Santa in front of the tree. Those have disappeared now. Give you a guess  to know who has them now.

JANE  bet that bit of coffee was good. I know I enjoyed it when I got home, at  the rehab place  the coffee was so strong I could no t drink it and the hot chocolate was  too watery and I cannot drink tea.

PHYLLIS  I had a small tree with light s and decorations on it I stored in a big plastic bag. Only put it up t he first Christmas I was here. Too much trouble making room for it  and i t jus t s stayed in the broom closet. Last year my son's oldest daughter moved into the old apartment I had on the second floor and Bill asked her if she wanted a  tree.  That is where it  is now. Not many here bother with decorating their apartments. When we got to my grandson's home Thanksgiving he has the outside decorations up. I thought too early but  that is only my opinion.

Have a good day be safe and stay safe.

Good morning from another frigid, ice fogged, Interior day.

Jane, it is so nice to see your posts appearing so regularly again; we missed you! I understand about coffee. It's my primary daily substance

Gloria, I have your email and used to have your number from when we spoke on the phone. I'm sure it's no longer suitable as it's from the early days when you were at your son's. I'm another who dislikes talking on the phone, which is why I love texting. I had a coworker who would call to gossip, so I started avoiding her calls, and I believe I ended up on her gossip train after that.

Each of the five floors has its tree and decorations for that floor's hallway and community room. The hospitality committee is in charge of that. For the last two covid years, the community rooms have been locked, so few decorations.

I never thought of the number of nice framed pictures on each floor, but yesterday everyone was invited to see a resident's photos, enlarged and framed of Alaskan wildlife. Dave was a casualty of Covid and the first one I knew personally, so it brought it home to me as he was so proud of them and loved to show them off. Now, I wonder about the other photos and pictures on those walls.

I'm also thinking of my daughter, who died of cancer when she was eighteen. She would have been fifty this coming December twelfth.

I enjoyed Thanksgiving, still have turkey, stuffing, and sweet potatoes to get through. There are no sweets or pie leftovers, funny how that works. I do have one complaint. I cooked an 18-pound turkey for seven hours at 325°. The turkey was browned, crispy-skinned, and moist; that was the good part. The bad part was the roasting pan full of liquid grease underneath.

Good morning everyone, 24 now, oldest so far this season but I do not have to go anywhere and as long as they pay the oil bill and we don't lose power I can stay warm. Have another unknown home maker coming this morning so glad I woke early. I am getting tired of  this woman that is now  the new "boss" who pays no attention to what their clients need. I am not a sloppy person and don't need a homemaker I need a CNA for that back massage every day and who can cook me a meal. Home makers don't cook either. TV dinners are not  very healthy and I cannot eat  them. all the preservatives burn my  throat, and I think I have tried all of them by now. Be tween my 2 sons and Yvette trying to fatten me up with all of them  they bought for me. Health Provider wants me to drink 3 bottles of Ensure a day and some days I am lucky to get even one down especially now  that  eggnog is in the marke ts again. Think I go  through almost  a gallon of it  a week. Do you think I like eggnog?

PATRICIA  we only have one communit y room on the main floor with the rest of the public rooms, only a few apartments there. Only 53 in  the whole building.

LLOYD  that  sure is a lot of nuts to crack and pick  the meat out of the shells.

AMY  you are a great friend to take your friend into the city. Just the thought of going into a city with today's traffic gives me the chills. Thanks for keeping up on birthdays.

JENNY  have a wonderful BIRTHDAY. Wasn't it June  that you shared your special day with?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Christy just brought me a couple tablespoons of coffee and BOY does it taste good!

It's in the low 30s here today and snow is predicted.  It hasn't started yet but I hope it gets it over with before we have to go over to the dr. appt. I do believe winter has arrived!

If I don't get back in today, it's only because I'm tired. I have mixed feelings about this trip today.  I want to go because I'm hoping this feeding tube will go but the trip is going to exhaust me.  Oh well, I guess we have to take the good with the bad.

Gloria, I'm not in favor of those frozen dinners either but I'm sure Frankie has a bunch of them in her freezer.  Christy is a very good cook and I wish I could have eaten some of the stuff she cooked since she's been here with me.  She started young...loved helping me even  when she had to stand on a stool to reach the counter.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Jenny!  I wish the best gift for you today is relief from shoulder pain.

I know what you mean about Ensure, Gloria.  I still have two bottles in the fridge that they sent home with me from rehab.  I don't much like it and can't make myself drink it.  I will probably throw it out eventually.

Jane, I have had experience with a feeding tube and remember how  wonderful it felt when I got rid of it.  Hope you see the last of it today.  I have a dr. appt. tomorrow and feel the same way you feel about going.  It is just a follow up but I still don't want to go out.  Hope all goes well with you today.

Sunny and 30 deg. here this morning but it is supposed to warm up some this afternoon.

Amy, I heard on the news this a.m. about the maple syrup shortage.  Are you experiencing it up in Canada?  I haven't tried to buy any lately, have some on hand, so it hasn't bothered me.

Breakfast time.  Take care, All.

Good morning from an Interior with another air quality alert due to ice fog. The only way to fix the air quality is to ban car exhaust and woodstove smoke, which will not happen. Ice fog is made up of chemicals in the air frozen and becomes visible. People in the foothills and college student cabin rentals heat by cookstoves. I don't know what the answer is. Also, I love how the weather report says to expect "a snow" overnight, singular, and not plural. It does mean we're warming up again, and that brings humidity, and humidity causes snow.

I used Ensure as a meal replacement when I couldn't cook or put any weight on my leg. It wasn't the best, but it was what I had. There are no homemakers or CNAs available here. They've been on backorder since 2020, and that doesn't look any different in the future. Even getting a ride isn't accessible from the various backlogged agencies. I had applied in February and am still waiting.

Gloria, this building has five floors, takes up an entire block, and has 196 one bedrooms and twenty studios.  Each floor has a laundry, community room, and a series of plants that overworked hospitality committee cares for. The first floor has a large room by the main entrance that includes a kitchen, all the offices, administrative, security, maintenance, and a drop-off for all deliveries and mail. Each floor has elevators and a stairway on each end.

Of course, all offices, community rooms, and that kitchen have been closed since March 2020. Instead of a security and maintenance team working 24/7, we now have one security and one maintenance worker per eight-hour shift. Even with the office right there, you still have to call the Anchorage-based answering service to schedule any maintenance. The office manager and the community liaison are in their offices but only reached by telephone or email and not in person.

There are also fenced yards, including a dog yard with cameras for public areas inside and out. There are both full pay tenants and those paying various reduced rates. My only real complaint is the building outside reminds me of a fifties communist block building and inside a mid-sixties vibe.

I got out the feeding tube!

All three of my drs. were in the room and they changed and removed bandages and gave us a lot of advice.  Among other things, one of them said that he has patients 20 and 30 years younger than me who have not made the progress I have!  That made me feel pretty good.

When we got home, the first thing I had was a cup of coffee. That was heavenly!  For supper, I had a scrambled egg with chopped up broccoli and cheese in it.  It took me a while but it went down and stayed down!  I'm ON MY WAY!

Thank you all for sticking by me and for offering prayers on my behalf!  You are all my GOOD friends and I missed visiting with you!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Well, I lost that post & don't know why!  Was telling Jane I had to come in to see how her appointment went.... been holding my breath all day. Good news is sure an upper for us all.
Thanks for reporting in, Jane, we needed that!

Rick, we're supposed to be in the 70s on Thursday, my AC has been covered quite a while but this house has dark tinted storm windows so doesn't get too hot with cool nights. We did break an all time record one day (high). Crazy weather, crazy year.

I did get my dog portraits sketched & will transfer to canvas tomorrow & start painting. It has been a while since the last time, so kind of stressful just getting everything together! I don't have any decorations up yet so will do that when tired of leaning over that easel & drafting table.

How did it get to be Dec.1 so fast?  This year was a fog with cataract surgery & getting past that bout of Covid. I think it's had an after effect on my lungs, but don't want to think about that.... Got a better attitude tonight with Janie's good news! Bet everyone reading her joy at drinking the coffee & eating solids had a big smile on their faces.

Need to work on Patricia (read somewhere you haven't been up to par) and Jenny (another Happy Birthday before the day runs out)with her sore shoulder, and we need to concentrate on extra prayers that Gloria gets a better back massager & cook. By our ages we all have people to remember during this holiday season, that we miss, so cyber hugs to all that get that pang of sadness now & then.  Love y'all. God Bless & sweet dreams.

Hi, Sandy, do you still have your tent to sleep in? I love that idea!
