Never Lose Hope

Hope is a precious commodity.
It fuels our drive. It gives us the courage
To continue through any struggle.

Hope gives us the desire to face
Another day, to strive to overcome
it's challenges and work for new ones.

Hope gives us glimpses of tomorrow,
Of the possibilities that lie in our future
And of the paths we need to travel.

Hope lightens our steps when the
Road is strewn with obstacles,
And helps us decide on our route.

Hope puts a smile on our face
And a glimmer in our eyes.

Hope let's us see love as it blooms.

Never lose faith in your abilities,
Trust the instincts you have inside,
They will guide you through your journey.

And always have hope.

Always look to the future.

Always believe that the best is out
There for you to find.

Never lose your hope.
Never lose the faith you have in who you are.
Because with that faith in yourself,
Lies the essence of your hope.

Introduce Yourself

A giraffe is very quiet
And I know the reason why.
No, it's not that it is bashful -
Though loudmouths are seldom shy.

I have another theory
That has to do with distance,
For in that long neck
Syllables run into resistance.

It really tries to holler
And make its wants well known,
But by the time a word forms,
The sound is without tone.

Way down in its gullet
It shouts out the word, "Hello!"
But tumbling off its long tongue,
It comes out less than a bellow.

The tiniest of whimpers
Is all that people hear -
Giraffes seems standoffish,
But they long to be held dear.

So be sure to introduce yourself
Next time you're at the zoo.
Shout your giraffe greetings -
See it blink long lashes back at you.

Quiet Friends

Unless your ear to her throat is bent
You'll never hear her sweet content
As we sit together here and chat,
So silent sings my cat.

But rest your hand on silken fur
And feel the rumble shaking her.
Know, not by ear but with a touch,
She enjoys your presence, oh so much.

You, my friend, are that same way.
What you feel inside you cannot say.
That we may keep our frindship strong
I clasp your hand and touch your song.

The above poem was written about my mom's cat who purred silently.

WOW! I came in today to a brand new Soda Shoppe!  Thank you, BUBBLE for all the goodies!  It made getting here special.  I love it all!

Today is going to be a cold one!  It's still only 27º out there and it's heading for the mid 40s by midday.  I think I'll wait a while for our walk.

I have all the cookie stuff out and if I don't do them today, I'm throwing them out!  I'm determined.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Very nice graphics, Bubble, and I like all the poems, too.  I agree with Amy...especially like the Quiet Friends.  I think many of us feel the same way about our friends....and, about ourselves.  We don't/can't always express our appreciation and care for someone even though we feel it.

Have been really busy the last several days and have an appointment this morning so I've got to run.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone. I ordered some things  from Swiss Colony for Christmas family gifts. They were delivered here yesterday. My daughter got hers last Saturday. All of the boxes have labels on them about being best if refrigerated. Ha if I did that I WOULD HAVE NO OTHER FOOD IN  THERE.

JANE  perhaps some place on earth there will be a White Christmas but it will have to change around here to get it. I remember one year my 3 were outside on Christmas day with sweat shirts on and riding their new bikes. I would like i t better to go sliding down hills on new sleds for Christmas.

AMY  living off the grid like my daughter and SIL are it is either solar panels or generators and solar panels are better. Only problem is getting the batteries they ordered. They could have got cheaper ones and replaced them every couple of years or get good ones that will last them almost the rest of their lives.

LLOYD  I think anyone who likes to cook has more than 1 recipe box filled to over flowing. Now with computers it is convenient to keep recipes there.

PATRICIA  that picture even looks cold seeing what looks like ice in car tracks.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new page, made me realize 10 more days and it is Christmas. Never Lose Hope is a keeper. Already saved it. Thanks for the beautiful graphics and words to think about.

Better get a move on and get dressed before the CNA is here.

Have a good day and stay safe.

This has been quite a day so far.......first a wee bit of rain, then ice crystals then rain and big fat fluffy flakes and now back to rain. School buses have been cancelled for this area.  We did go and get 3 buckets/pails of sand just in case! Yesterday the weather was so nice we saw a man up in an ultralight buzzing about!!

WELL... the wind is SO strong, how strong you ask? I'm speechless, took the words right out of my mouth!  And that goes along with 71 degree temps and this is Dec.15. Records will fall, trucks will blow over & Shirley has errands to run right now!

Thanks for the new home, Bubble, my fav is HOPE. That is my general attitude, not often I am down for long, there's always hope.

Oh, Amy, I dreamed of owning an ultralight or hang glider. I'd still give it a try if offered the chance.

Gotta run. Think HAPPY, it works!

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND🎄 It is a VERY windy day and I may be flying over Kansas any minute now.  We had a bit of rain this morning....just enough to wet the sidewalk ‼️  Sure wish we could get more as it is so dry and grass fires are popping up all over the place😩

Thank you, BUBBLE, for our new holiday SS.  I loved everyone of the poems, and will happily share them with others.  I have one of thos silent kitty cats.....we had him for a couple of years before he ever made a sound🥰

I had a ongoing post and managed to do the dasterly deed and went to our new SS page and the post is now LONG GONE!  WHEN will I ever learn?

PATRICIA, your picture looks so very cold....but it sure is a wonderful shot!

JANE, my bet is that you WILL get those cookies made today🤪🤪. Sure happy to read how well you are progressing🙏🙏

Off to get my exercises done.....both of my shoulders are SO painful, but as they say, " no pain, no gain" 😑 UGH

Have a great day EVERYFRIEND 🥰

Minus 23, one day, minus 9, another, then minus 40, and now today minus 3, it's all due to the curvature of the earth, solstices in both hemispheres, that control everything. Sorry that minus three for today is incorrect as Anchorage's weather was mistakenly attributed to us. We have minus 40 with a dense ice fog advisory.

Delicious cookies Jane.Have a cold glass of milk to go along with them.
Shirley, once on the farm, as we were enjoying dinner a voice from the sky Sai save some for me! Sure gave us a start!
We looked out the window to see our friend Ray flying by in his ultra light. He later told us what powered him ultra light... a chainsaw motor!

]We are at 40 below with dense ice fog. I thought I read minus three but that was Anchorage's temperature. I keep attempting to move it to Fairbanks, but it later automatically switches back to the Anchorage location because that's what my IP shows.

Enough, I'll just check Accuweather instead of trying to fight the other. This is what they show for Thursday. We have perhaps an inch of snow for the entire winter so far. Last year we set a snowfall record in early October, crazy!

Oh, Amy, we had a guy where we used to live that would fly over, not sure if it was called an ultra light or hang glider, but it was also powered by a chain saw. Today the wind is so strong I think I could take off with a rope tied to 4 corners of a blanket but wouldn't know how to come down! It dropped 10 degrees in the last half hour, sure holding my breath that some trees "down the road" don't snap off & lay across the power lines under. We had ours cut back or cut down when they hang over power lines.

We had that quickie shower, Jenny, not enough moisture to help. We are in a high fire warning plus tornado watch just east of us. I check the view cams almost daily for snow in Buena Vista & Salida... dry as a bone. I used to have the view cam in St.Elmo bookmarked but lost the link. We've been going there so long it's almost like home.

Got my order of 9 Lives from Amazon, hope the cats will eat it....2 20each bags. Nobody, including Chewy, has had what they've grown up on, the Friskie's Indoor Delights. "They" say it a truck driver problem, how crazy is that?  I bought them another big package of chicken thighs at Sam's while ago. At 97¢ a pound that a lot cheaper than the eye of round roasts I've been buying them. Got one of those, too. ;)

Patricia, I'm going to snuggle under a blanket for a nap & forget about your super cold weather. I woke up dreaming this morning, don't often do that these days. Don't recall what I was dreaming but left me with an uneasy feeling all day. I used to dream about flying all the time......flying like swimming but always having to watch out for power lines. I was always encouraging people to try it, not hard, and I would swoop up into the air.

5:38 pm and dark outside. I need a nap before feeding the cats & myself. Guess it is the changing weather making me so sleepy. nighty-night~~~

Rammel, I bet Shirley's cats are the most spoiled ones in the whole country!

I'm about ready for the haystack  and I have to get up and get moving tomorrow because I have an appointment with the surgeons who did the work on my jaw in the late morning.  We'll see if all is going according to plan!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

The children of a friend once gave her a ride in a hot-air balloon.  She said she went home and immediately cleaned up the back yard because she saw so many messy ones as she flew over the area.

Winds are also horrendous in Oklahoma.  Son said he'd seen videos on Twitter of what looked like the Dust Bowl Days in the western/northwestern part of the state.
I haven't been any farther than the mailbox but can see the tall trees and bushes behind me almost bending double.
It's also terribly dry - drought conditions - with temperatures at record Highs. I just read that parts of Guymon, in the OK Panhandle, are being evacuated because of a wild fire.
NOT typical December weather at all at all!

I hope I didn't leave a trail of crumbs when I sneaked into the Hidey Hole for some cookies!  :eat:

Nowhere I need to be at a certain time and no errands (that I can think of) for the next few days.
I've placed a big grocery order to be delivered tomorrow so I can begin preparing the "Sweets" I'm responsible for at the family Christmas "supper", which will be here.  We decided to have "hearty snacks" instead of a sit-down meal - which gives us more time for the usual "rousing" (as in the neighbors might wonder :D ) domino game of Mexican Train.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have Pleasant Dreams.

LLOYD, you be a bit more careful.  I always make sure the backs of my legs touch whatever it is I'm planning to sit on before I sit.  It works for me!

CALLIE, it sounds like a fun day with your family coming up.  I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute of it and then you'll sleep well when they're gone!  I  didn't see any cookie crumbs!

Good morning..

Starting off at 43° this morning with more rain today and snow tomorrow. Crazy weather for this time of year!
Doing little household chores today and may do a bit of baking.

Lloyd going to wrap you in bubble wrap to keep you safe!!Please take it easy. Do what Jane said to make sure your chair is where it should be.

Jane, enjoy your busy day but don't forget to rest a bit also.

Callie, I think that is a great idea of healthy snacks. Makes no one accountable for a large meal and one can just enjoy!

Better get on with the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 57° and raining. Just heard on local weather that the last time it was this warm in December was in 1971. Is this mid December or mid April? Could be this rain coming down is an April shower?

JENNY  hope you and every one in Denver are OK. Saw on the late news last night about the winds and trees down in the Denver area. Such a crazy weather pattern.

JANE  hope you got those cookies made, would be a shame to throw away all the ingredients with today's prices and shortages all over our country.

PHYLLIS  I know I can never find the words to express how I feel. At times I say nothing and then wonder if anyone thinks I am heartless because I say nothing. I know I remember JUNE and how she would always find the right words for how she was feeling.

RAMMEL  good day to you. Not very talkative yesterday?

CALLIE HI TO YOU, TOO.

AMY  CNA went to the market for me yesterday and she had a sweater on, left her jacket here. She said it was warm out with the sunshine. Got cloudy in the afternoon.

SHIRLEY  with that wind and your small car I hope you stayed home.

PATRICIA  I remember years ago when your mentioned ice fog I had no idea what you were talkig about. Glad you explained it when I asked you what it was.

JANE  good for you, I better go check the hidey hole before they are all gone. Nothing like home made cookies and a glass of cold milk. One time Yvette told me she made some cookies for her grandsons. I was surprised and said you really made some home made cookies? No she only sliced and baked them from the refrigerated ones she bought. I sure teased her about that. She said well she did bake them so had to count for something. Not really, told her it does not count unless she makes them from scratch. Hope appointment with the surgeon is all good news today.

CALLIE  I think you and your family are the only ones who play dominoes. Some in my family were into triominos for a few years. Now seems every one is too busy to play any games.

LLOYD  not  a nice way to start your day. Hope the rest of the day is much better.

Have a good day and stay safe.

QuoteRAMMEL  good day to you. Not very talkative yesterday?
That's always been a problem of mine.  When I was small I must have been told not to talk unless I was told to.  But I do listen/read(here) all the time.
I've been trying to clean up the house a bit but am not making much progress.  We've accumulated too much "STUFF" over the years. Lots of ladies stuff which two guys can't use but it's reasonably good stuff so I don't want to just dump it.  Quite a bit of new clothing.  Some day I'll come across a  good place to give it too. A couple of items I intend to offer to my neighbor's daughter. She has been very nice to us but lives in Connecticut. She'll likely be here at Christmas to see her mom.

Good morning,

Amy, Not sure how "healthy" the snacks wil be but will be substantial enough to satisfy some big appetites.

Gloria, Mexican Train is played with dominos but it isn't anything like the regular domino game.  Hubby and I used to play that one with friends but they complained because he always 'bid' Nillo and nobody else could win.

Parents of The Grands taught them to play table games at a very young age.  Miss Ellen particularly liked "Sorry". When she was about 4, she loved knocking me back to Start and then smiling sweetly and saying "Sowwwy".  I'd teasingly say, "You are not!" and she would giggle...and then do it again.

Rammel, why is it that "Stuff" collects until it fills all the spaces - and then you need one more cabinet/closet/etc.?  Getting rid of it is a challenge.  There are several charity places here that will take it - but that means boxing it up and hauling it there.  I can nearly always find something else to do. :)

Speaking of that...I do need to organize some things that I've tossed on shelves in my office.  :knuppel2: Get busy, Callie!!

Wishing Everyfriend an Enjoyable Day. :knuppel2:

Good morning from the Interior! I guess we've joined those states with uncertain weather. Even the forecasters are uncertain. Yesterday got down to forty below; last night at eleven PM, it was up to zero. This morning is minus eight, with today's high said to be plus one, overcast and not as cold—a bit of afternoon snow with little to no accumulation.

However, they tell us,

"Special Weather Statement

Source: U.S. National Weather Service

...Significant Snowfall Possible Early Next Week...

Heavy snowfall is possible Sunday night into Tuesday across the Central and Eastern Interior, including Fairbanks. This weather system also has the potential to bring gusty winds to the area, along with freezing rain.

There is still a lot of uncertainty with the exact details of this system at this moment. Stay tuned to weather.gov/fairbanks for the latest forecast information."

So, your guess is as good as mine, or theirs.

rocky coast of Maine.

All is well here ...

Speaking of falling,  again, I have had to train myself to go

almost fall....   Damn...   Can't afford to forget.

Maybe it's the season, day starting off with a thud, not tiptoe thru the tulips for me! So far I have nothing to show & it is "half past noon".

Rick, had to laugh at your willing to come back as one of my cats... my first thought I tried to choke back but it's gonna come out anyway.... "You'd be welcome if you can hit that d**n litter box better than 2 of them do!"  :2funny:

I do tend to feed everyone that comes through here or take food to them. Never knew what you might meet at our house, we had a bluejay that lived 7 years, mostly inside riding on my shoulder, a robin that was outside for 8 years but built all her nests (3 each year) to keep an eye on the front or back garage doors because I fed her scrambled eggs, cooked hamburger & honey-wheatberry bread. Fed her mate & babies.

A whole list of ducks & other critters that grew up coming to our door for food, and a couple baby ducks that I had to take with me to MO a few times 'cause they weren't old enough to stay home alone. I would stop at grassy rest stops or shopping centers, let them out of the cage & they'd follow me around for exercise for a few minutes & hop back in the van.

One time I was driving I-35 between Wichita & KC when a car went sailing past me, slowed down & then slowed to a stop in my lane & pulled over when I recognized a couple of my nephews as they got out of their car & came back to mine... they saw a bird on someone's shoulder as they drove past & immediately figured it had to be Aunt Shirley. That bluejay was potty trained & would hop in it's cage to potty or if it saw a Golden Arch & wanted some fries (had to be in cage before I'd open a window). It barked like the dog next door and when I'd been shopping & got home it would give the first half of the old '40s-'50s wolf whistle. I had to answer with the last half or it would try one more time & then give out the screach bluejays call when an enemy is around.

I'm supposed to be working on the next dog portrait but would rather sleep. A different world today with NO wind. It did keep me on edge yesterday with things blowing around the yard & gates blowing open. Didn't have any bad damage here but waited for something to happen any moment. I sat here in the chair & dozed so off for a nap.

Except for birds, these have all been taken care of, Amy. We didn't know what the cats were until AFTER the surgery. Cas just fed & snached one up & handed it thru the back door to me & I put it in the cage when I took them in. Tom went in as Buttercup. The lady across the street already took Callie in after she found out about the babies & weaned them. Did I ever have Bubble post a photo of them all when they were babies & Mama Callie still around?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 46º and the temp is on the way down this morning and bringing rain this afternoon!  But today I don't have to deal with the clutter.  I'm leaving that to Murphy!

Tomorrow is my youngest granddaughter's birthday!  It's also the date we lost my Dad.  She gives us a happy day instead of a sad one!  I know Daddy's in a better place!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

High winds again have knocked out power to certain areas, thankfully we are fine so far.

Might wrap gifts and get that out of the way today. Need to do Scottish shortbread cookies yet too.

Gloria, we could also walk about with no coat here..we let the fire go out  until evening as it was warm enough in the house. Any word on when Yvette will be back at work with you?

Rick."stuff" just slowly grows and then you have to purge!! The one I have a hard time of letting go is my books. When I find someone that enjoys what I read they  are the keeper of those books. As for clothing etc we take them to second hand stores and they sell them ,the money goes to a good cause.

Callie, when we take "goodies" to folks I tell them I drove so fast the calories couldn't keep up so they are calorie free. Christmas is a time to enjoy special treats and then in the new year we can behave.......maybe.

Patricia, your weather is all over the map!! Up down ,up down...you can strike out in a coat and carry it home later in the day.

Better get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

At 5:37 AM in the Interior, it's plus-four heading to a high of plus seven. We're expecting a snowstorm of one to three inches but no real accumulation. Saturday, we'll have a high of thirteen, and for Sunday, "..Significant Snowfall Possible Sunday night to Tuesday...

Heavy snowfall is possible Sunday night into Tuesday across the Central and Eastern Interior, including Fairbanks. Snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches will be possible over the two days.

This weather system will also bring some warmer air into the area and the potential for some freezing rain, especially southwest of Fairbanks. Strong gusty winds are also possible, especially near the Alaska Range and over summits north of Fairbanks.

There remains a lot of uncertainty with the exact details of this system at the moment, so we will be closely watching as this system develops.

This system may impact travel across the area to start the week.

For the latest information, go to www.weather.gov/fairbanks."

Fairbanks is built partially on the valley floor, north and west, and partially in the foothills, south, and east, so we have a variety of weather. This has been a week of burrowing and next week should be the same.

Good morning everyone, 54° and snow in forecast for tomorrow. Just checked where my daughter lives and it is 33° there. She likes it when it gets colder there but my SIL will be bundled up in layers or he will freeze. He grew up in as far south in CA. and still live in the USA.

RAMMEL  I am the youngest from a big family with 7 years between the closest one to me. Of course I was too young for her to bother with and at times it felt like I was an only child so mostly I am quiet and people in this building are not very social, the manager likes us to stay in our apartments and now with the covid getting bad again all the community rooms are locked. We have access to the laundry and mail rooms and that is all.

CALLIE  you still have a few days left to get things ready for Christmas.

SHIRLEY  only if the wind is coming from the north east do I hear it whistling in this corner and I dislike that sound.

JANE  seems like only a few days ago you were watching Kieran after school, introducing her to the library and enjoying books.

AMY oldest son and DIL were here yesterday afternoon and she cut my hair and then bagged up the gifts for him to take home for his home and my grandson his wife and my greatgrand. Less to take on Christmas day. Will give other son his to take home tomorrow. Will be about 2 months before Yvette is back.  Will enjoy that. I really dislike strangers here almost every day and at all different times. I have been in a routine for so long that this new one sending the help out just does not listen. When she want to send someone her at 9 or 9:30 am and I say NO she argues wit h me or else it will be 4 to 6pm and that is too late. I will not give up my SS time in the mornings or my Skype time with my daughter in the late afternoon. Glad there is a library here, have not bought books since coming here. I brought thousands of them to the library where I lived and they had book sales twice a year. I could have fill the room downstairs here with all I had.

Better get a move on, someone coming at 11 and I am not dressed for the day yet.
Have a good day and stay safe.

This guy Murphy must be a busy guy.  Seems to be everywhere.
"Rick,  "stuff" just slowly grows and then you have to purge!! The one I have a hard time of letting go is my books."  I ended up finishing several clean ups after family deaths, and ended up with all the "Stuff" Murphy left here.  Now too old to use most of it.  Books? - My wife left us a whole bookcase pretty much filled with Cook Books. A few other stray subjects. If they were History Books my son would be happy.  Then there is MY STUFF  :tickedoff:  :uglystupid2:  :knuppel2:  :idiot2:

Rick..you  have a treasure with all those cookbooks!! Someone is going to be the proud owner of them someday.  I too have items from the past ,yet I am not willing to get rid of them. Too many memories are attached to the items.

Have no idea of when the wind will die down but hope it does before nightfall!! Even the birds were acting funny....blue jays that are normally about and squawking were no where to be seen till later on in the day.

Cookies are all set to bake tomorrow and pastry made for hand pies. Wonder what it would be like to have nothing to do in a day??

True - So many things have memories attached. That's why we have so much "STUFF".  As far as the Cook Books, my wife probably mostly used two or three of them - her favorites. Margaret Rudkin(sp), Better Homes, NY Times.  I'm sure she well used others too. But I'm not likely to get into them much, if at all. I suspect that one day down the road they will just be put out to pasture.  :(

RICK, I'm a collector of recipes, too and I have numerous recipe books but I find myself frequently going back to the same ones.  I do try all the ones I collect, and sometimes they make it into a permanent book but the old ones seem to hang in there.

We are back to cooler temps starting at 23° at the moment. We did not get the snow yesterday but may get snow today. Most of the snow and ice from before have melted although there are still icy patches here and there.

Baking the shortbread cookies today and laundry..I know so exciting   Babe had me up 3 times in the night and maybe a nap will be in order this afternoon.

Gloria, I don't blame you for standing your ground. Remind them that because of you they are getting paid to do a job!

Rick, seen but not heard plus when you went to visit you sat on the chair and behaved! I wouldn't dare count my cookbooks!! They date way back plus to a time I was in 4H and beyond. Numerous binders of recipes gleaned from the internet and friends.

Lloyd, my friend is deaf from birth in one ear, wears a hearing aid in the other and asks for you to stand on the good side for her to hear.

Jane, what's on for today?

Phyllis, are you all set for next Sat?

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Still warm here but rain coming in this afternoon and colder weather on the way.  I can't keep up with what to put on each morning.  Crazy up and down weather.

I have two recipe boxes stuffed with recipes and 4 full shelves on the kitchen wall filled with over a hundred cookbooks.  And I don't cook anything from scratch, anymore.   :idiot2:

I must get some breakfast.  Take care, All.

LLOYD,  Your email program should have a place/button ( icon ) to add an attachment.  If you click on that it should let you select the file you want to send.
What email program are you using?

You should also be able to copy it and then Paste it into the email.

LLOYD - You can copy and paste the recipe onto a Word Pad document. You can set the print width to that of your index cards, but leave some room for borders Then you print the document.  You have to set your printer to the size of the Index card.  Or you could just print it on 8 x 11 paper - trim if you want and put in a plastic cover with the index card behind it.

: :Good morning everyone. I got a call last  night from the company that sends out the CNAs. I was told one of them I had this week has covid. There were 3 I was supposed to have-one I refused and the others never showed up so I had one 2 days and I know this one and she lives here in town. The one I refused I told the one in charge that she will do nothing but sit or sweep the floor, go into the bathroom and is in there so long I wonder if she falls asleep. Every time she is here i know she checks my medicine cabinet because things are moved. I like putting things where I can just put my hand in and get what I want. She will never find drugs in there if that is what she is looking for. The one who called me last night told me to quarantined MYSELF FOR 10 DAYS. Dang cap lock key is in the wrong place, keep hitting that instead of the A.

Called my sons, the oldest one whose home I planed to go for Christmas told me not to worry. He and his wife are not vaccinated they take some meds they bought like what Trump had when he got the covid. They do get tested and all clear so far He said he would bring some pills for me today. As if i don't take enough already. Youngest got his booster shot a week ago.Better get a move going here, Son will be here soon and have not had breakfast yet.

Have a good day and stay safe from that dastardly covid.

Good morning from the Interior; it's nine degrees and "a little snow expected." Tomorrow is nineteen degrees, and "a little snow expected."

Gloria, some people like to snoop in others' bathrooms. I will sometimes find things moved around.

Jane, I like how you or Amy will state you either have nothing to do or plan a lazy day. Then you say other than a few, insert several items here, odds and ends.   :)  Unfortunately, we have a once canceled fire extinguisher and fire and sprinkler alarm system test on the 21st, so that I will be busy cleaning.  It's already clean; I believe it's just something ingrained among most of us.  As if it means anything to spy a stray crumb or book out of place.

We are speaking of fire alarms. Yesterday, we had one very early, which lasted for some time until the fire engine arrived to shut it off and visit the apartment from its originating. Then yesterday afternoon, we received a notice in sizeable black printing, stating, "All smoke alarms are off. If for any reason there is a fire, please call 911." Hmmm...

Phyllis, you're also up to your ears in Christmas preparations. I send cash to everyone and no longer ship to my adult nieces and nephews as I had requested a break, which I'm sure they were glad to know; from all the various clubs, fruit, cheese, chocolate, tea, coffee, or wine for which they had routinely signed me up.

My friends and I are no longer able to socialize altho, the new cases are down to only a few hundred a week or seven to ten-day period with perhaps ten deaths this month locally. I'm the youngest at seventy, so none of us feel it's worth it. We've lost two out of our small group to Covid and would prefer to keep the rest healthy. All have had both vaccinations and the booster.

The news per weather alerts keeps coming and more concerning so it's not surprising after the lack of actual snow. The lack of any real snow and the freezing rain and ice storms, first seen in January 2015, has become more common, as have the winters without any real appreciable snow until late in the year when we receive everything in one large dump. One year we had perhaps 0.6 inches of snow until mid-March when we received nine inches in 24 hours. That was the winter when people joked they cleaned their driveways with a tablespoon. Perhaps they joked a little too loudly?

I've been playing Christmas music all day!  My CD player decided not to work this year and I was asking if my kids thought I could play CDs on my DVD player.  Cathy though not and Philip said, "Might work".  I hadn't tried it yet when Cathy showed up with a loaner CD player and I'm addicted!  First was Tony Bennet and then Andy Williams and Mitch Miller and Tennessee Ernie Ford and I'm just enjoying every minute of it!

I have my casserole in the oven and I got a lot of paper work done while the music played.  Cathy picked up some stuff at WM and made a stop at my ATM and picked up a present I wanted for her husband.  I think I might be finished with the shopping.  I'll think about that until Frankie goes out tomorrow.

Patricia, you sure are having strange weather in your area!  I'm hoping for a little snow for Christmas but not too much because there will be family members on the road.

We got the rain today that we were supposed to have yesterday.  I didn't get a long walk in but I did do a short one!

I hope you are all having a good day!  I am!

I have a complaint, and I know I'm not alone in my opposition to changing holidays around to fit more shopping days and more sales and more people to take advantage of the extra shopping and sales.

And I know that fireworks in the summer are problematic because one, they're illegal, two, police tend to take a dim view in a parched climate, and three, 24/7 daylight makes it hard to see the fireworks in the first place.

So, not only do they go all out in the winter for the city party and solstice with a huge two-hour fireworks display, a block away from my building, but it's always on a preceding Saturday to draw the most cash in hand crowds for the large community sales.

Now today is the 18th, the party and fireworks recently ended. The solstice, 21st is next Tuesday. Are we celebrating commercialism or the solstice and the return of daylight?

The University, due west, up on the ridge, has its fireworks on the solstice and the new years.  However, they continue to have theirs on the correct dates. It used to be glorious when the communities coordinated the shows from in town and up on the ridge.

Today, Cathy is picking me up to go to a Christmas Choral Concert put on by a local group.  I went wit my friend, Mavis a couple of past years and they're very good and they do a lot of the songs I like! It'll be a fun afternoon!

This morning, my plan is to finish all the wrapping so I can figure out if I missed someone!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Patricia, you've commented on one of my biggest peeves.  After watching a so-called Christmas concert on tv the other night I thought there was very little about the true meaning of Christmas.  Just clever little ditties about everything else but the true purpose of Christmas.  Most programs, parades, pageants these days have nothing to do with Christ!  I thought that we celebrated the birth of Christ on Dec.25th.  Now we celebrate the all-mighty dollar, big commercial businesses screaming at us to buy, buy, buy,  and promotions of the latest cool boy/girl band, dance group, pop singers, etc.  It is very hard to find the true meaning of Christmas now.  Things have definitely changed and not always for the better.  I miss the Peace and Joy of the Christmas season.  :-\  Sorry for the gripe but I had to say it even if it makes me sound like the Grinch.....or Scrooge.

Raining here today and getting cooler but, it's not snow.  I'd rather not be outside doing your "dance", Amy.

Take care, All.

Phyllis I shall "gripe" with you on that. When anyone says Happy Holidays to me no matter where I am I make sure everyone in hearing distance hears me say MERRY CHRISTMAS. I think store clerks have been told what to say but it is Christmas and it has always been Merry Christmas  until a few years ago when things when down hill in my opinion. Tis ok your not Scrooge or Grinch...I will stand beside you on this.

Good morning everyone, was shocked to see the time when I woke this morning, almost 11am. Power went out around 7:30 last night. Every street light was out too. Called Mike on cell phone and he was in the dark too but has a big generator he can use. He called back an hour or so later and told me a line at the main station went out and National Grid was helping them get it up and running. The section on town where we live has it's own electric, National grid has tried to take them over but the people rather stay with the one we have. We are a bunch of stubborn Yankees and like our independence.
This building has a generator that will keep the hall lights and the elevator running and the heat was on so not too bad. I have flash lights and some of those battery operated lanterns so sat warm and comfy and read. Glad I still have a couple of books from downstairs I have not read yet. Christmas stories, some short and funny and some dull. With every thing locked down again the library is only open an hour on Wednesday morning and an hour in the afternoon. Have to sanitise our hands before we can get a new book and a volunteer wipes all the returned books with a sanitizer before putting them back on the shelves. Of course we cannot go out our doors without a mask on, the shots or not.
We had snow in the forecast for yesterday but ir was rain all day and today is another gray day but looks like the clouds are beginning to break up.

AMY  I can still hear my Mom telling me that when a girlfriend asked me into their house I was to stay by the door and not go roaming around. That followed me into marriage, when I first went to my inlaws house I would sit in the chair near the door. When I went to visit my parents I never roamed around even though I had lived there.

JANE  when Bill was here yesterday we exchanged our gifts because next Saturday is Christmas and he will not be coming here. I gave Mike all theirs and my  grandsons gifts, who knows what this coming week will bring with one of the CNAs having the covid. I saw one of the tenants yesterday who has the same CNA I  had last week and asked if the ofice called her and she said no and I told her about the call I got. We thought that  was weird because we had her on the same day. Frightening though.

LLOYD  after the power came back on last night this new computer kept changing pages amd wanting to do this and that and would go back to new and what my grandson had done would be lost and I was not about ready to call him last night. I just shut it down and this morning seems OK.

PHYLLIS  you are so right about Christmas now is about money. Where did the ssimple home made gifts made with love go? No it is about how much one spends. our Lord Jesus hardly is mentioned at all, Even all the Christmas programs on TV never have a word about why we celebrate December 25th.

AMY  I am with you, happy holiday can be said anytime of the year and means nothing. I have said Merry Christmas to clerks at this time of year and got dirty looks. When I was young we never saw anything about Christmas until the first of December, not around July 4th or Labor day.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning, it's plus eighteen outside, and everyone is battening down for the large promised storm and 9-12 inches of expected snow. I wonder if we will miss the storm entirely or be spared the worst of it? I know the hills and various summits are probably in for it but perhaps not the portion on the valley floor?

I agree with celebrating the holiday itself, but I can see the point of the expected sales, especially during a pandemic. Many people depend on those sales even if they wish it were different. The same for grouches like me who had to spend time listening to the clunks, booms, and bams of the nearby fireworks.

The clerks probably gave dirty looks because the holiday season starts in late August and remains through January when inventories and storewide sales are in full swing. The clerks listen to holiday music for several months and spend the season trying to sell big if they're on commission and depend on holiday commissions for a large portion of their income. If they work on commission, any return they take in comes out of their commissions, even if it wasn't their original sale.

If they work straight pay, it's usually not that high. And they are judged on how many credit cards, store cards, addons, sponsors, and other store giveaways they promote and sell. They will have a set hourly limit, and if they lowball, they lose hours which means loss of pay and perhaps termination. So, when you are angry about a practice, look at it from the clerk's point of view. Most long-term salesclerks are Grinches and Scrooge.

Midlevel management is directly in the middle between corporate and staff. We usually had a set monthly hour allowance. When I was women's and shoe department manager, I often had 240 hours weekly during the holiday season. I had 9-12 employees to divide those hours between the employees in each department and had to go by seniority, past employee experience, and if their employee training schedules and store promotion sales were approved. As managers, we were judged by our staff's performance, so it was a hustle.

Then you add upset customers and store thefts on your watch and bring on the Grinches! And when I worked hospitality, hotel staff, and management, you were often in the direct line of fire between sides.

I have to tell you about the concert Cathy and I just got home from.  It was a Christmas Concert presented by a local group called "The Buffalo Valley Singers".  They do this every Christmas season (except last year) and it's Christmas music... songs like "Glory to God in the Highest", "Mary Did You Know", "Good News, The Chariot's Comin'", "The Carol of the Magi", and more and it closed with "The Hallejah Chorus".  I loved every minute of it!  And I think all of you would have enjoyed it too!

AMY, what a nice surprise to have the mail come on Sunday!  I had a delivery today too.  My gift to my daughter arrived 4 days earlier than it was predicted.

Now I have to think about supper while I get serenaded by Andy Williams! I hope everyfriend is having a great day.  I am!

Good morning..

Starting out at 14° this morning, doesn't look as though the sun is going to peek through today but snow in the evening. Need to finish wrapping the gifts today and cleaning the house.

Gloria, that is what we were taught also...seen and not be heard.

Jane, The Sound Of Music was on last night so I taped it. Have seen it many times before but it another movie I can watch many times over.

Patricia, hope you're not snowed under!

5 more sleeps..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I was awakened this morning by a little doggie jumping on my bed and barking a "Good Morning" to me.  I wasn't sure if he was coming today so I didn't set my alarm to wake up to meet him.  Frankie has her own key so she can get in if I'm not up.  Nice surprise!

AMY and PATRICIA, please keep your snow until after church on Christmas Eve.  I still have some stuff to finish up! Some wrapping, hopefully gifts delivered before Christmas.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning all! Not too sure how much snow we've accumulated. It's still snowing, and the snowplows are out in force with their backup alarms on constant. The snow has been very fine with some sleet, so not much accumulation that I can see, perhaps six inches or less? The storm warning has been extended through Tuesday morning, when temperatures will return to dropping.

I hope everyone is doing well this morning. I see Jane and Amy are "up and attum," as my father used to say each morning. That didn't go over too well as we're all lazy in the mornings as adults. I like to sit with a cup of coffee when I first wake up to wake up properly. When I was working, I got up early with coffee to meditate on what the day would bring; before beginning my activities. The day goes better when you're rested. I'm also a believer in preparing the night before, so there's less morning activity and more coffee time.

Patricia, when we were working we would have everything that we needed on the truck ready for the next days work. Now, we just take the day as it comes :)  Nice to not have to be at work early in the morning, one can sit, relax and enjoy the day. Now that we have really retired we are  busy always something to do.

Good morning everyone, My sleep time lately has changed, wide awake till 3 or 4 am and fall asleep till 9 or10 am. No naps either for a couple of weeks. Looks like I get no help again today, not even a phone call.

PATRICIA  I am looking forward to some snow to see how beautiful and clean every thing looks at first. No blizzard, though, the one we had back in 1978 was enough  of blizzards for me.  No snow was even forecast that day.

JANE  your mention of Andy Williams and Christmas music reminded me of  those wonderful Christmas programs we used to see on TV. Yesterday I could not find any good Christmas programs on. I think the worse was the Lifetime channel's Cristmas romance ones. Even NBC had nothing good on much less the other cable channels. Sure glad I still had something to read.

AMY  now at a sunny 11:20 am it is 25°

Looks like I have some phone calls to make and not nice ones just before Christmas. One will be to the one who  sends the help out to people like me and then to the ones who pay her for a job she is not doing very good. I dislike complaining or getting anyone in trouble but I do need help and my insurance is helping to pay their wages.
I know I am a combination of Scrooge and the Grinch right now.  :tickedoff: >:(
Have a good day and stay safe.

Isn't that an oxymoron, Amy?  "Nice to not have to be at work early in the morning, one can sit, relax and enjoy the day. Now that we have really retired we are busy always something to do."

I can still recall the morning news programs, daily program advertisers, and how everyone rushed around getting ready to leave for school and work. While my father sat in a chair at the table, drinking coffee and directing the troops. He had only to walk down and cross one street to be at his work.

Gloria, living in the arctic, we may not have much snow, but we're guaranteed to have some! I think that even this blizzard will not leave any real accumulation. There was as much rain mixed in as there was snow. And if the temperatures drop again, it will dry out, with no humidity and back to no snow.

I'm sorry you have to put up with such incompetence. Here the agency has been so backlogged that they've essentially stopped working. Some folks in this building are offering cleaning services for a price, but not many can or will take them up on it. The Covid situation with Delta and now the Omicron variant found locally, and everything remains locked down, no libraries or stores other than groceries or online and no events. We're going on nine months of lockdown; it's become our new normal. Even the fireworks were under protocols.

Gloria, squeaky wheel gets the grease! If no one said anything the people that run the operation plus your insurance company wouldn't know they are not getting their or rather your moneys worth.

Just have a bit of wrapping left to do..why does it take so long to wrap and in the blink of an eye poof it is gone!!

Oh, well, CRAP-CRAP!!!  Had a long post & it vanished. I did absolutely nothing to make it disappear. Gloria, I was agreeing with you about having to get satisfaction about workers not doing their job, including the lady that schedules!  If they can't do it right they don't deserve a pay check!  Remember back when we baby sat 3 or 4 kids for 25¢ an hour and did a sink full of dishes after the kids went to bed.... not one of my fav jobs!

I decided to call everyone I normally send Christmas cards to & forgot how much time we can spend on the phone! I am not getting things done, getting lazy & mostly so much to do I go from room to room to put things away & get side tracked & don't finish what I started.

Does not help that all 3 cats are demanding more attention (one way or another). Tom is so blind now I have to lead/follow him from one end of the house so he is comfortable & knows how to get to the water bowl & litter box. He has been going outside when the sun is warm, I watch to make sure he is settled in a safe spot. He doesn't seem to hurt, eats more than either of the others & still purrs, so life isn't too bad. Have to make sure Callie is settled in where ever she wants to be or she will have an "accident" where ever it pleases her. Tiger just misses the time I spent taking naps with her, she doesn't play with the others if they are getting attention, just goes off to another room. She has the run of the house... so far! She wants all of my attention or gives a sniff & goes off by herself, poor baby.  :(

Not a single brush stroke on the dog portrait today, started out being gloomy & then I baked some brownies to take to the doctor's office. They really are good about making time for me any time I call, in & out with no waiting. One of the nurses said she thought I should hear in a day or so. I did get the info about joining the online thing, my kids & friend all go online to ask questions or get test results. Dumb me, I tried to set it up last near & didn't get it done. This time I got the info & hope my daughter will have time to make sure I get it right.

"That's all Folks..." who was it said that?  Woody Woodpecker?  Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Now the day is over,
Night is drawing nigh...

SHIRLEY, I think it was Porky Pig who said, "That's all folks", because I seem to remember it said with a stutter.  I just looked it up and it WAS Porky Pig!

I got a lot done today and when Sarah delivers what she's buying me to give to my son and Cathy delivers what she's buying me to give to my SIL and my neighbor, I'm finished!  I never thought I'd make it this far when I was lollygagging around in the hospital!

Now I'm heading for the haystack because I know it's loaded with zzzzs and I need to fill up on some because Cooper will be joining me tomorrow at 5:30 a.m.  I still have to get the coffee pot ready and turn off all the Christmas lights and blow out the candles!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was up to meet Cooper's arrival at 5:30 a.m. and it also netted me a hug from Frankie!  I'll take as many of those as I can get.

RICK, the word "lollygagging" has been part of my life as long as I can remember.  When we were kids, my grandmother used to get us ready for school and she was always telling us, "If you don't stop all this lollygagging" you'll both be late for school".  I used it on my kids, too!  Now I'm back to doing it myself!

I'm playing one of my favorite Christmas CDs right not.  It's Andy Williams and the Williams Brothers.  My first into to them was when I was first married and I used to come home from my job to have lunch.  The Tennesee Ernie Ford show was on at noon and one of his regulars was a young fellow named Dick Williams.  He was Andy's older brother and I heard that he gave up his own singing career to manage Andy's.  The brothers still did things together and this CD is one of them.  I really like it!

Today is going to be a "finish up the Christmas stuff" day.  I have cards to get ready for the people who deliver things, a couple bags to fill and a couple things to wrap.  Then I'm ready!  I might also do a load of laundry.  I think Frankie will be staying overnight tonight so Visiting with her will be a high priority!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Supper night is an easy fix of leftover ham and scalloped potato with a vegetable to be picked out yet.

One of my favorite singers passed away Carlos Marin was only 53 yrs old and was a member of the opera group Il Divo.

Jane, hugs are thee best gifts! Kyle says that a hug without a squeeze is like apple pie without cheese.
Enjoy your time with Frankie.

Lloyd, hope you found some zz;s.

I had better get moving here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Anyone ever be in a "muddle" of thoughts, the mind just skipping back to something extra nice (or bad), in this case, super nice and unexpected.  I have a friend that is willing to be my adopted brother, he knows I am really lost without any brothers left. This past week Amazon delivered a package without a card, no name to say who sent, but I knew. I had been sad, no other word says it better, SAD. Can't remember allowing that feeling for a long time, I know it tends to get overwhelming and we forget how to put on a happy face. But this surprise gift kicked SAD out of the way and now my thoughts are how to let this person believe, really understand what a difference the gift meant. It wasn't just a "gift", it was a cyber hug, a pat on the back to tell me he knew how I was feeling. So I am not without brothers and in my world, that is the greatest gift of all. Just wanted you to share in this state of happiness/joy/contentment that brought tears, because he had a lot worse year than I did but was thinking about someone else. Maybe we never know when we touch someone just how important it is to that person. Wishing everyone an experience like this, brings back memories of long ago, better life!

Good evening. Got a call yesterday and only help for today was 8-10. Well I did not sleep last night, never can when I know I hAVE TO WAKE EARLY. Just got a call and would be the same as today. Told her ai cannot go 2 nights in a row with no sleep, she said it was that or nothing so I get no one but at least I will get some sleep. I dozed at times this afternoon but mow really asleep. I know how I am when I don't gut  enough sleep, feels like I am coming down with something and with this new strain of the virus being worse I sure do not want to be run down and catch it.

PATRICIA  I must be crazy but I till like snow And will go down om the porch here and sit on my rollator at the edge where I can feel the show falling. I will not walk on the walks because I don't know how the rollator would be no snow tires for it.

AMY  I don't usually squeak but I sure have been the last couple or weeks.

Just heard on the weather Christmas morning cold and some rain. Maybe I should stay home.

SHIRLEY  things are not getting done in here and the ones I have been getting cannot cook or even wash dishes clean.
(((((((SHIRLEY))))))))  had to get in there, too.

JANE  I am hoping I sleep tonight. At times when  I go without sleep like last night I will catch 10 minute naps and that does not help.

I wish all of us a good sleep tonight.
Stay safe and healthy.

Jumping back a bit. ---
Lollygagging reminds me of what to me was a funny incident. Funny enough that I remembered it.
Back when my son was still with us we had the need to go to a hardware store. My son did "Handy Man" jobs - big and small - and often has been in this particular store so fairly well knew the cashier (a young lady with a walking problem [handicapped]). As we went to check out she said Hi, what have you been doing lately? Without much thought my son said "Aaah, just putzing around". The cashier immediately responded "I didn't think people did that any more". As I read that it doesn't seem very funny but at the time it did. As with lollygagging, putzing also seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur. The incident in the store was the first time I had heard it in years. Don't think I have heard it since.
My spell checker doesn't even know putzing.  :2funny:

By the way, my brain is often "muddled".

I'm getting ready to hit the haystack early tonight.  Morning came early today and I didn't really get a nap either.  So "Early to bed and early to rise" might make me "healthy. wealthy and wise"!

Rick, my husband and his father used to "putz" around!  It wasn't one of my words and I don't know where it came from for them.  My FIL's ancestors were mostly German and I had German ancestors too and I never heard that until I met them!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Is there room for me to squeeze into the brother/sister act too ?
Orphaned now for the most part, Christmas brings that empty hole larger~ I survive it but is the most trying time of the year..
So one Happy Christmas to all and a Merry New Year , lets hope better than last :)

Jane, growing up we always had extras for Christmas, Mom made sure that neighbors that didn't come to eat had a plate full delivered by one of us kids or grands.

Mycheal, I did have 3 brothers so would be proud to claim you as well. Right now we have our gatherings at either of the oldest 2 grands because they are the ones with the greats and their houses are "kid proofed". Everyone brings food & I'm hearing that there's a football game going on so will be kinda noisy. Since we still have several grands unmarried it is a surprise every year at the new "significant others" we are introduced to so a new face in the crowd won't cause any hic-cup.

Thank you all for the extra hugs to pass on, I am feeling so much happier tonight for lots of reasons. I did get that phone call from the doctor's office and I still have antibodies for Covid so I can join the others for Christmas. I was excited to know those antibodies lasted more than a year, maybe I'm good for life?  The nurse that called warned me that "they" just don't know enough about Covid to know what to expect... but I feel like I'm as good off as being vaccinated & boosted. It would be easier to get the vaccinations, and long ago before I started having problems with all meds, I did get all the shots. I hope to get a good night of sleep tonight, the 4 hours & 5 or 8 minutes sleep the last 2 nights is not enough when I don't get a nap in.

Gloria, of all the electronics the kids think I can't live without, the Fitbit that tells me my sleep time is the one I would hate to give up most. It not only keeps perfect time but it keeps me honest about sleep & whether I need a nap or just getting lazy. Andy got all 3 cameras set up for motion all the way around the house... comes in on my iPad and also at HIS house. It will come in on my iPhone if I ever turn it on. ::)

Time to say Good Night, Sweet Dreams, and God Bless. Thank you all for being so understanding and kind. Who needs a shrink when we have y'all to talk to???

Okay, how many of you Googled "putzing around"..... haha... I've heard it but not growing up & I had German ancestors as well. The county in MO where my parents grew up was half French & half German. I did learn from those old days that there is a big difference in what area of Germany people came from.  People from one area were dancing, happy go lucky & loved their beer (they were the putzers) while a different area the people were more stern & serious about life. All were said to be hard working, though. My 2¢  worth!

Shirley, where we used lollygagging in our family, mainly from my dad who pushed us kids to get up and out of the door each day, I'd heard of but not used putzed. I talked to my sister via email, and she mentioned a local Polish/Ukrainian Jewish family used the term. She thought it was either Eastern European or Jewish slang.

Good snowy morning..

We had a light dusting of snow during the night...not a lot to worry about.aka..no dancing!

Meeting up with our friends then over to SIL to deliver a gift then home to put together a cherry cheesecake.

We won't be meeting up with kids till after Christmas but will have our Christmas dinner  on Christmas day. Do you know how difficult it is to find a small turkey??  Usually I will buy a turkey and get it cut in half but now stores just get in prepackaged meats and they don't have meat saws. Same with hams even the small ones last forever!

Lloyd, there comes a time we let go of things we used to do and find other interests in our lives. You enjoy wood working maybe dwell on that? Gardening is another you and Nancy enjoy. I had to hang up my carpenters apron for a kitchen apron. Times change, we just have to know when to change with them.

Gloria, good for you. Yvette can't come back soon enough!

Mycheal, join right in.Lots of room for you.

Better shake a leg and get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, no help for me today, looks like this person now in charge must be related to the witch here. I know there are other companies but they charge more than I can pay. This one was great till they got a new one taking charge and just keep getting worse. I also think this one is related to Scrooge because the closer to Christmas we get the worse she is. SHUT UP Gloria, no more complaining.
33° now and light rain in the forecast No white Christmas here because light rain is in the forecast for almost a week. Will not be bad as long as it does not get below 32° and it freezes into black ice.

RAMMEL  you sent me looking for a list I had of words not used anymore but  it was on the old PC and not this one. My SIL and oldest grandson always are putzing and so is my younger son here. Have no idea where or when they got the word and they live 3000 miles away from each other.

JANE  wonder if it folks who cannot sit and read or watch TV who have to putz all the time.

MYCHEAL  as the last one from a big family I guess I am an orphan now, too.

LLOYD  we all at  one time in our lives if we live long enough have to quit driving. I still miss having a car and the independen it gave me but know I would not be able to drive any more.

SHIRLEY  so far so good in my family, shots up to date and no one sick so safe to be together for Christmas.
AMY  if it wasn't for liking Yvette so much and waiting for her return I would look into a different company. I have had her for 4 years now and she is like a family member. I mostly have had only a few different ones to help not a different one every day. That I detest.

Have a good day and keep safe and healthy.

Chocolate Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas and all round my hips
Were Fannie May candies that sneaked past my lips.
Fudge brownies were stored in the freezer with care,
In hopes that my thighs would forget they were there.

While Mama in her girdle and I in chin straps
Had just settled down to sugar-borne naps.
When out in the pantry there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the kitchen I flew like a flash,
Tore open the icebox then threw up the sash.
The marshmallow look of the new-fallen snow
Sent thoughts of a binge to my body below.

When what to my wandering eyes should appear:
A marzipan Santa with eight chocolate reindeer!
That huge chunk of candy so luscious and slick
I knew in a second that I'd wind up sick.

The sweet-coated Santa, those sugared reindeer,
I closed my eyes tightly but still I could hear;
On Pritzker, on Stillman, on weak one, on TOPS
A Weight Watcher dropout from sugar detox.

From the top of the scales to the top of the hall
Now dash away pounds; now dash away all.
Dressed up in Lane Bryant from my head to nightdress
My clothes were all bulging from too much excess.

My droll little mouth and my round little belly
They shook when I laughed like a bowl full of jelly.
I spoke not a word but went straight to my work
Ate all of the candy then turned with a jerk.

And laying a finger beside my heartburn
Gave a quick nod toward the bedroom I turned.
I eased into bed, to the heavens I cry
If temptation's removed I'll get thin by and by.

And I mumbled again as I turned for the night
"In the morning I'll starve...
'til I take that first bite!"

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem.  Frankie has left for work with her breakfast in hand and Cooper is fed and waiting for his walk.  When I finish here, I'll go get dressed and take him.  I'm not looking forward to going out there.  The temp is hanging in at 23º!  I know it's not as cold as Alaska but for around here, IT"S COLD!

I didn't know I was going to stir up such a discussion when I admitted to lollygagging!  But I loved it all!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning,

I'm lollygagging before I start putzing around.  ;D  Have heard both terms all my life but never considered where they came from.

Well, "the best laid plans of mice... and Callie... often go astray".

#2 son tested positive for Covid yesterday morning and as Miss Ellen's flight landed in OKC she had a text from her NYC roomie that she had tested positive (roomie - not E.)

#1 son (E's Dad) got home testing kits and they all tested Negative but will retest tomorrow or Friday.  He brought one for me - and I also tested Negative and will also retest.  (Kit has two tests for this purpose)
However, just to be on the safe side, plans for my birthday tomorrow are cancelled and Christmas "supper" here is On Hold.

Obviously, #2 son/dil would not participate, anyway.  He says he feels like he has the flu x 2 and, yes, he had been vaccinated but hadn't yet gotten the booster.  Dil tested Negative and had gotten her Booster.

Gloria, so sorry you're having so much trouble with your Helpers.  Service organizations here are having problems finding workers.
My housecleaner tells me that the service I use is down to two workers and an assistant.  She said possible new ones make an interview appointment and then don't show up.
Sad situation.

Loved your "Chocolate Christmas" poem!  Very true!!!1

Family had decided on "hearty snacks" for Christmas supper and I'm in charge of the "sweets".  My Plan du Jour is to make molasses cookies in case we do get together.  If not, they'll go in the freezer.

Enough of the dilly-dallying (another word I've always heard)!
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Wonderful Wednesday.

Good morning from the Interior at minus nine amidst all the snow piles and the trucks, graders, and those constant backup alarms. However, I'm sure that the city crews are glad of some overtime.

Absolutely nothing is happening except snuggling on the couch in plush throws and pillows. All the yearly inspections are over, and with no place left to go until after the new year, it'll be a quiet week. We were planning, last summer, for an extended holiday season but of course, that didn't happen.

We've become texting and phoning buddies repeating all the bad news. Do you wonder, as I do, how much better we might all be now, the lives saved if everyone had followed protocols and gotten vaccinated?

Good evening from the best dilly dallying, putzing, lollygaging person you have ever met‼️  I have known all of these terms my entire life.

I am doing my best to keep up this crazy time of the year, however I am barely hanging on by the hair of my chinny-chn-chin‼️  You can not imagine how difficult it is for me to be able to reach out with both arms as I attempt to wrap a package.  It takes me forever to get one taken care of🤪🤪

SHIRLEY, it is a difficult time of the year for so many, so I and many others can relate to your sadness 😩😢

PATRICIA, I certainly do think and wonder how much better off we could have been if everyone had followed the protocol and taken the jabs. I can not help but feel a bit resentful at those who are filling up all the hospital beds and working our medical staff to death just because they did not want to get the vaccine.  I know this may upset some, but that is how I feel. It irks me to no end when I hear the non vaccer's being offered 100 bucks to get the shot😡😡. Off my soapbox....sorry!  Take care and be safe.

Too many interruptions....so I must say good night EVERYFRIEND.

Today, according to the Johns Hopkins database, 236,000 Americans were diagnosed with Covid.   1630 died. Of those who died, 90 percent, or 1520 were unvaccinated.  Such a waste of a productive life of someone who was loved by their families, especially so close to Christmas.

And it goes on day after day.

Good morning everyone. 24° with a high of 29 for the day. Winter IS here minus snow. Rain/showers in forecast. We MIGHT see some snowflakes Friday but will be gone by dawn on Christmas day. Once again I did not sleep much because helper coming at 8am again. Cannot sleep good when I know I have to be up before 8 to let her in. In all the time I have had help it was never before 11 am and I told her that. She acts like what I want or need does not matter but I help her get her pay. I am about ready to call my insurance and tell them I am not getting the hours they are paying for. Supposed to have 13 hours a week and this week only 4 hours.

PATRICIA  you sure get a lot about weather in Fairbanks. We never get too much and the weather guessers here are seldom even close to being right. I just checked online weather, rain On Chritmas day here, in San Diego where 2 grandsons live and in Arizona where daughter lives. Not nice weather for any in my family this year.

JANE  you sure worked in those old words in your post last night, wonderful.

JENNY  I know about shoulders, my left one is giving me problems, I keep trying to hold that arm close to my body but does not always work. My replaced right one has never given me problems, cannot understand why the one you had done is still painful for you. Maybe I had better PT than you did, A man and his student came to my home 3 times a week and it was fun with them, lots of laughs, never felt like work. I hope you get relief soon, not good living with pain all the time.

My DIL's sister got the shots and still got covid. In hospital over 2 months and now in rehab. They did not think she would survive but she is a fighter. Her DIL-a registered nurse was the one who took care of her all the time in the hospital. She got the hospital to agree to a leave from all other duties to stay with her MIL. The shots did not help her.
Off my soap box-yes I got shots.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good morning

Starting off at 0° this morning and snow this evening.

Getting the ingredients ready for the dressing and all that needs to be done it mix it together on Christmas. Presents are wrapped a job that was quickly done while Kyle was outside.

Jenny, not nice living in constant pain. Have the Drs said why it is giving you problems and will the pain cease in time.

Patricia, 4-6 inches of snow in more than enough. I just hope we are let off the hook for more snow.

Callie, :happybday: Wishing you a Happy Birthday  :happybday:  Hope everyone tests negative from covid.

Gloria, makes me wonder if they are charging your insurance company for the 13 hours!! Sure is something to look into.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up but attem slipped away, cats fed, load of whites in the washer & now time for my breakfast. Poor Tom gets a little weaker & more blind every day but we walk to the kitchen for all meals & then he wants to go right back to his/my bedroom. He knows his way around in there. I give him a bite of my egg every morning, he loves it, but when I fry him one of his own he doesn't like left overs the next day, even if I warm a big bite under hot water.

Gloria, I sure would complain to the insurance that you aren't getting what THEY AND YOU pay for and maybe they can get a little better results from that ole biddy.... If they can't provide the service they shouldn't be in business!

Jenny, since I've never had the shoulder problem I'm wondering why so much pain this long after the surgery. Did you ask them to double check the X-rays to make sure they didn't leave a needle in or maybe you need to have a 2nd opinion? (You notice I'm on a roll here & ready to take on the world?  >:(  )

Well, girls, all my married life I have loved pretty little knick-knacks and now it's time to box up & get rid of them. Seems few of the kids, none of the grands or even great grands have any interest in anything that isn't electronic, pretty doesn't get it. Instead of being sad about it I'm going thru with the attitude, "you'll be sorry some day when remember seeing all this stuff at Grammy's house & didn't want it...and now it's worth a fortune..."  REALLY? I loved going to garage sales & estate sales, tried to stick to my rule of whatever size thing I brought home, same size had to go away. Don't think I did very well with that or wouldn't have all this stuff to get rid of right now! But I'll worry about that tomorrow, way too much going on right now~~

Amy, I don't have my snow blower out of the shed yet, need to take the wagon & leaf blower around to switch before we get a storm. My double garage can hold only so much & I do have a couple bikes hanging from the ceiling. Supposed to be about 70° Christmas morn, not our normal weather. Today at 7:34 am it is cloudy, foggy & dreary but still over 40°.

:happybday:  :christmastree: Hey, Callie, you slipped in at the right time to be a nice tax deduction!  Happy Birthday to you. My sister's is Christmas Day & she had several kids born at the end of the year & was convinced her husband planned it for the tax deductions! In your case I'll bet you were the center of their world, right? So nice to be wanted! Have a wonderful day in spite of Covid wrecking plans!  :hb2:  :hb3:

Washer has stopped so need to put that load in the dryer & feed me. Had 5 hours plus 1 min sleep (Fitbit never lies).... have some "must dos" on the list today so we'll see how that goes. Think fun, do something silly, enjoy the day where ever you are!

Sorry all your plans have been disrupted, Callie.  Try to have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY  :hb2:  and I hope ALL tests for you, your son, everyone else in your family are, and remain, negative.  That would be the best Birthday gift, I think!

Lloyd, I have hickory trees in my back yard and they put out quite a few big nuts this year.   But, the squirrels get to them long before I ever could.

I've been really busy and still not ready for Christmas, but, the Who's in Whoville say,  "Christmas is just the same."  We can enjoy the meaning of the day and the friendship of each other even if there are no presents and no feast.

About the vaccinations......Here in our state and county, the Omicron variant is happening to many who are vaccinated and booster-ed. So, it isn't always because someone has not gotten vaccinated.

It is a sunny day here, though a little on the chilly side.  But, I'm not in the hospital and getting stronger, so I think I don't have anything to complain about.

                                      MERRY CHRISTMAS, ALL!

Good Morning and Thank You for all the birthday wishes.

All retests were Negative - including mine.     Son with Covid is getting the infusion tomorrow.  Not sure just what that means but hope it helps and he doesn't have any side effects - particularly over the holiday weekend.  He was up and showered yesterday but still congested. Haven't heard a report today.
EDIT:  Had a text from dil.  She said son slept well last night, isn't coughing as much and (quoting) "is wiping everything down in the house with disinfectant...literally everything!" (end quote).   I'm wondering if the dogs are hiding. :)

Shirley, not sure there were tax deductions 86 years ago.  If so, I guess my Dad could have claimed it in Kansas because I was born in Wichita, where they had moved in 1934 because my Dad had been asked to help with the organization of the Farm Credit Association. They brought me back to Oklahoma in February, 1936.

At least your sister got to open all of her presents at the same time.  I was allowed to pick one package from under the tree to open but had to leave the others for two days.

I was never allowed to have a birthday party, either, because my parents didn't think it was right to ask friends to buy an extra gift at Christmas time.  Then, when my "bunch" began exchanging gifts in high school, one friend always gave me a pair of something (earrings, gloves, etc.) - one for my birthday and one for Christmas.

This bunch (which I call "The Super Six") always teased me about being the last one to be old enough to do things. However, when we all began to turn 40 - and 50 - and -60....I got my revenge  :winkie:  Two have passed away but the other four still keep in touch and have seen each other quite a few times over the years.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good afternoon,  everyone
from the cold but dry rocky coast
of Maine.

I think that back pain and shoulder pain
are difficult, because you can't stop
using those two things,  like you
can with your legs and arms etc.

Every move you make is made to shoulders and backs..
Oh woe, how difficult it has to be with center
of ones body gets damaged.

Happy hollidays to everyone who still can enjoy
them.

I am doing well and staying isolated as much as
possible.  Had all my shots and wear a mask
every where.  This new covid Varient is still very
difficult for those who have not been
vaccinated ..  so please be careful one and all.

Sandy

Had a nice day today.  The two kids who visit their great grandparents down the street were coming over tonight, to celebrate GGpa's birthday so I took a couple little gifts down there for them for Christmas.  When they came there, they walked down here and brought me a poinsetta.  They are such a nice family and they are always doing something nice for each other and now I'm part of it.

Then Frankie came by after work and she's spending the night.  She stopped on her way home and got me some Tylenol to take for my Sciatic pain down my leg.  It worked and I can get some real sleep tonight.

CALLIE, my husband's birthday was December 27th and he never had a real birthday celebration in his life until he married me.  His mother always kept back one Christmas present for his birthday and that was it.  I started going out the day after Christmas and buying a birthday gift for him.  I baked him a birthday cake and on his first special birthday after we were married, I threw a birthday party for him with all of our friends helping him celebrate.  He was in total shock!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  I always get up and make coffee for Frankie to have on the way to work when she spends the night here.  And I make her 2 hard boiled eggs to eat on the way to work.  She loves them and she never has time to sit down and eat breakfast.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

Another chilly one but no new snow.  Not a lot going on here , just doing odd jobs and delivering a quilt, even cancer doesn't take a rest.

Jane, sounds like you had a great day.

Patricia, did you get that snow?

Better move..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

If PATRICIA didn't get the snow, we did.  I think we got about 2 inches or so.  Everything is white except the roads.  They're already cleared.  I'm about to take Cooper for a walk.  And Frankie made it to work safely.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as CHRISTMAS DAY, tomorrow!

We had our first snow last night. Not much and it's melting now. Roads are clear. Most things will probably be calm today as many businesses close early and people leave the area for visiting.

Snow, did someone ask? We've already had over twelve inches from the past weeks' snowstorms, with graders, dump trucks, and incessant backing up alarms run constantly. There are piles of snow everywhere you look and city notices on checking and cleaning your roofs are everywhere.

Every day brings more snow, more rain, and of course, especially for the holiday weekend, the expected holiday gift,

Special Weather Statement

Start

End

Wednesday, December 22, 2:08 PM AKST

Friday, December 24, 5:00 PM AKST

Source: U.S. National Weather Service

...Major Winter Storm Late This Weekend...

A strong weather front is expected to push east across northern Alaska over the weekend, with significant winter storm impacts beginning on Sunday and lasting into early next week for the Interior.

An initial front will bring light snow across the Interior on Saturday, with 1 to 2 inches of accumulations through Saturday night. Heavy snow will then push in from the west beginning on Sunday morning and last through Sunday night before dissipating.

Snow accumulations exceeding one foot for the Fairbanks area is not out of the question at this point. Additionally, there is a chance that snow will transition to rain as far east as Fairbanks Sunday night into Monday, but confidence remains low of this possibility at this time. Expect strong west winds to develop Sunday afternoon, resulting in significant blowing and drifting snow across the Interior going into Monday.

Residents should take proper precautions to ensure safety in preparation for any holiday travel over the weekend. Stay tuned to www.weather.gov/fairbanks as we continue to monitor changes to the outlook throughout the weekend.

Snow you ask?

Good morning everyone, no CNA at 8 this morning but one will be here at 9:30 and I finally slept last night. 22°.  No time for chatting or reading this morning. Want to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas day with all the family and friends you can safely be with. My daughter is in Ca. with their 2 sons, last year they could not go because state borders were closed because of the darn covid, who thought a year later we would be still having that threat.
Every thing is white this morning and still falling. Not much, looks like a broom would clear the walks. If Paul was still working here they would be cleaned already but the new maintenance man lives out of state with his wife and 4 kids. The apartment that goes with the job is too small for them.

Just got a phone call and now I get no CNA, just got a call from that person in the office. Oh well, I think I am get  ting used to no help but things are beginning to pile up in here.

AMY  one thing I never made was cheese cake and I sure love it. Every time I  thought I would try I would look at a recipe and it looked like too much work and complicated.

CALLIE  happy Belated Birthday. As usual I am a day late with everyone's special day.

JANE  this is the first time in 70 years I have not made cookies and fudge for everyone. I know my SIL will miss his fudge and my daughter her coconut balls and my 2 Ca. grands will miss everything. Family here will miss things too but know I just can no longer do any of that cooking/baking.

SHIRLEY  I can understand the company being short handed with all this covid but if they cannot accommodate their clients they should let them know. Even hospitals and nursing homes have ads in papers here for CNAs wanted and some places offering a bonus for signing up. I gave my oldest grand daughter a lot of my Mother's knick knacks that I had no room for and my daughter has some of my Mom's things and my brass bell collection and a few other things I collected. My sons want nothing but older son's wife did take some of what I had. I have a few items younger son made and they will go back to him.

LLOYD  hope your doctor appointment was good yesterday.

PHYLLIS  I thin it is horrible when that man in the White House blames unvaccinated people for the covid deaths. My DIL's sister had all of them and has been in the hospital fighting for her life with covid and not this latest strain.

SANDY  I have been to several orthopedic back doctors, first one talked surgery before even seeing an Xray and the last one said no guarantee and I could end up in a wheel chair for the rest of my life. Have learned to live with it and a good CNA who know how to do a back massage  with a Hempvana pain cream. It will be another month before she is back to work and now my left shoulder would be fine with being replaced but feel I am too old.

RAMMEL  like your Christmas tree.

JANE  you  more snow than we did 1+1/2" and it is now raining so will be icy.

Have a great day and hope all is done so you can rest a bit before tomorrow.
Merry Christmas everyone.

:nanadance:  :nanadance2:  :christmastree:  Party is ON for tomorrow afternoon/evening!!

Miss Ellen was very concerned that she had "brought" the virus with her because of roomie. She took the "takes-longer-to-analyze" test and was Negative so she's now comfortable getting together.

#2 son called yesterday.  He felt better and sounded pretty good but, of course, they will stay home from everything. However, #1 son (or, probably, one of The Grands) will try to set up a Facetime or Zoom or one of those "everybody can talk" things so we can share fun virtually.

Gloria, thanks for the Birthday Wish.  :smitten: ...as well as the Jacquie Lawson cards. I enjoy those.

I had put off baking cookies and now need to Get Busy.

Me too, loved the cards! Thanks, Gloria. I did enjoy the game.   :christmastree:

Callie, I plan to go to the family gathering the 29th but am debating whether to go to church in the morning, I will do a "drive by" and if the parking lots is over full I will not go in. My son thinks everyone will be going to the ones on Christmas Eve that has kids so we'll see. I am thrilled to have the paper from the doctor saying I tested positive for the antibodies as well as showing the positive in July .... it has been over a year so I hope I am good for life, but not going to push my luck with so many different varieties of germs still called Covid!

I walked Tom & Tiger down to the river while ago, probably Tom's last trip. He struggled with the walk as well as not being able to tell where he was part of the time. So sad to watch but he doesn't seem to be in any pain, enjoys eating all the time and all that walk, he still had to come inside to use the litter box (I'm really a pro at training these animals, huh?)

Merry Christmas to All.... and God Bless ... We had that warm weather Callie was talking about, but not going to break any records. I think weather man said it was in the 80s in 1955.... We had mid (or almost) 70s here. No nap & I am ready to go "saw some logs".

It's the day before Christmas
And all through the house
The puppies are squeaking
An old rubber mouse.

The wreath which had merrily
Hung on the door
Is scattered in pieces
All over the floor.

The stockings that hung
In a neat little row
Now boast a hole in
Each one of the toes.

The tree was subjected
To bright-eyed whims,
And now, although splendid,
It's missing some limbs.

I catch them and hold them.
"Be good", I insist.
They lick me, then run off
To see what they've missed.

And now as I watch them
The thought comes to me,
That theirs is the spirit
That Christmas should be.

Should  puppies
Yet show us the way,
And teach us the joy
That should come with this day?

Could they bring the message
That's written above,
And tell us that, most of all
Christmas is love.

MERRY CHRISTMAS T0 ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT :)

Pup was eying up the stockings that were hung, son was holding his breath that she didn't bite  and she didn't........bit his toe instead :) Raced around the livingroom ,then up stairs on all fours and came down on two with her bum going thump thump thump.

Good morning everyone. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Made it in time for my son to pick me up ab a few minutes to spare. He will pick me up at 10 and when he says 10 he does not mean 10:01. Just have to get my coat on and get downstairs.
I made sure Regina did not feel slighted on her birthday on the 27th. She got her Christmas presents but I kept some from us for her birthday and on the 27th in place of a party where no one wanted to attend I took her shopping so she could pick out something special she wanted and we went out for lunch. She really enjoyed feeling special on her birthday. I have a nephew born on Christmas eve and a brother in law on Christmas day.
Have no idea what time I will get home, if I get too tired it will be early. I will talk to Regina and Gary and my 2 grandsons and the wife of the younger one. We have been doing this since we both got computers. Before that I would call them late on the 24th and I had talked Regina into letting both boys open one of the gifts I sent for them before they headed for bed.
Have a wonderful day. I am looking forward to the ham and this year Mike is going to make scalloped potatoes, he copied my recipe a few days ago. Oh got a phone call at 9:30 yesterday morning and the one who was supposed to come the called in and they called me she was not coming. I had her before and she is from one of the Caribbean Islands  and was afraid to drive or walk on the little snow we had.
Enjoy your day with family and friends.

Good morning and Merry Christmas from an Interior unaccustomedly buried deep in piles of snow. The electricity has been flickering all week but has valiantly stayed on.

Plus five with snow and ice with yet another storm warning, the gift that keeps on giving!

I slept well last night and realized why this morning. All the snow plowing personnel and equipment are taking the night and day off for their celebrations.  They've earned it. This continuous storm has already put us in the record books.

I hope everyone everywhere is having a nice Christmas and holiday season!

Well, I went to bed early and I got up early and here I am, talking to myself this morning.  I do that a lot but please don't tell the psychiatrist or they'll be watching me!

I slept well and I feel better this morning.  It's 41º this morning and calling for the mid 40s all day but tomorrow we're supposed to have some snow and then rain 2 days during the coming week.  I'm planning to do a short trip in my car later this week and it will be my first since my surgery at the beginning of Nov.  I just feel like I did before except for the one place on my face and that doesn't hamper anything.

My Maryland daughter's husband is feeling better and it seems it wasn't COVID after all so we are all happy about that!  And they are planning to come up over New Year's weekend if he keeps improving!

I hope you all have a good day...at least as good as yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

A light  dusting of snow overnight and a temp of 26° this morning. We had a quiet day yesterday ,sent a couple of meals over to the neighbour. When I talked with her she sounded rough so made a pot of soup for her and sent that with the dinners.
Today is a day of rest, other than delivering a quit there is nothing on the agenda.

Jane, good news about your SIL! Hope he improves to be able to be there on New Years weekend!!

Patricia, when power flickers here I gather up the flashlights and make sure we have spare water. We have a generator that does handle  a lot but not all outlets in the house.

Gloria, your son sounds like my Dad.If Dad stated a time to go fishing  you had better be there or you would miss out.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

The best part of today?

Good morning everyone, had agood time yesterday and my little great  grandson was a busy little kid spending time with this one and that one. Never saw his that social before, not a bit of shyness for a change. At 9:15 Friday phone rang and guess what--the cna that was supposed to be here at 9:30 would not be coming. Maybe she was afraid to drive on roads that had icy patches.  Yest erday was cold an rainy at times and today is more of the same. This weather makes my back yell at me. At least I did sleep good last night, first time in almost a week.

CALLIE  your welcome, I have not yet heard of anybody who does not  like the JL cards. I called my daughter on Skype after I got home, with the 3 hour time difference the time is wrong to connect when at my son's home. Was great to talk with those 2 grandsons.

AMY  when I saw tat game in with the Christmas cards I thought everyone can have some fun in the busy time. I know I enjoy a game like that.

SHIRLEY  you would not have liked it here yesterday, cold and damp with rain.

MYCHAEL  like your Day Before Christmas.

LLOYD  hope you had a great Christmas day.

AMY  I would have liked snow yesterday instead of rain. Raining today, too. and not much above freezing.

JANE  glad you got out to enjoy Christmas with your family. I am with more folks at Christmas than any other time and I come home exhausted with all the noise of everyone talking. Always a good day but now it tires me more than it used to.

TIME to get dressed and do breakfast dishes. Enjoy your day. I just might catch a nap later.

Good morning from an Interior covered with snow and ice with two more storms predicted. Instead of saying new storms, why not call it what it is, one long continuous snowstorm. People plowed the street and parking lots close to me yesterday. Today you'd believe they hadn't been touched.

It's plus 23 for a low, 37 for a high with snow continuing through this morning, then changing to ice, and ending this afternoon with a storm total of about a foot. The main weather page promises freezing rain with the snow, while the second weather page says no ice is expected. I liked it better as in October of last year, we had one big snow dump, and that was it. Gloria and Shirley, you'd love it here this year.

Jane, contrary to expectations, I learned in one of my psychology classes back in 1969 that those who talk to themselves or plants are more creative, more empathic, and better problem solvers. I'm glad your SIL is improving and not dealing with Covid. We have a lot of cases in this city and another one in our building. The maintenance and security people don't go anywhere with not only masks but rubber gloves and plastic over their shoes or boots. If you publicly say you don't feel well, people literally jump back.

Amy, I have flashlights in the bedroom and front room. How many say front room and how many living rooms? I think the front room comes from my farming relatives. The space used to be called a parlor in the nineteenth century, public areas in front, family rooms in back.

I would love some soup. I haven't cooked that much but am enjoying my stash of organic soups. They taste so much better than regular soups and don't cause issues. Plus, they have more variety.

Good morning Lloyd! I wish I had been able to go somewhere for Christmas. Here not a creature was stirring, not even me on the couch. My local friends aren't going anywhere in this weather, the latest Covid scare, and no one was even walking the halls yesterday. I could be forgiven believing that I had the entire building to myself as it felt that way.

I had already unwrapped any presents beforehand, so yesterday was quiet other than the morning round of phone calls and texts. Friday, a local senior care coalition plus one of the state's largest coal mines had together brought out senior care packages for those over 65. It had been promised earlier in the month but canceled.

I was expecting perhaps a small first aid or sewing kit and perhaps some hard candies. Instead, we received what looked like leftovers from the local food box programs—six cans of almost expired foods and three packages of dried drink mixes. I was disappointed as it certainly didn't take any thought to cobble together some leftover food box items to pass out to seniors and call it a care package. I wouldn't be surprised Monday to see most of the items on the donation table.

My grouchy side is in full fledge this morning.

Good afternoon,

Jane and Patricia, I've always talked to myself - maybe because I'm an only child??  When we had a dog, I was sure he would look at me, roll his eyes as if to say, "She's at it again!" and walk away. :)
I was told that, when I was about 3 - maybe 4 - my Dad scolded me for something and I "sassed" back. When he asked sternly, "What did you say?", I supposedly replied, "I was talking to myself...but I hope you heard me".  Never knew what happened next and don't remember anything about the whole incident.  I suspect he turned away to keep from laughing.

The Grands (plus a boyfriend) and their parents were here last evening.  We did play Mexican Train and the boyfriend joined right in with the fun.

Not much cleaning up to do because family did quite a bit before they left - and took leftovers with them. So, after watching live church service on Facebook video, today is a "leisurely" one.

Wondering why December 26th is called Boxing Day in England. Maybe Jackie can explain if/when she checks in.

So far today has been awesome. Kids came and we exchanged our gifts and they have gone on to the cottage. Lots of leftovers for supper .
Patricia, did you also have a summer kitchen?

Callie, we also have a boxing day here in Canada .

December 26 is not only a day for Santa Claus to catch his breath but a public holiday known as Boxing Day in the United Kingdom and other British Commonwealth countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand. In spite of its peculiar name, Boxing Day has nothing to do with fisticuffs, the trashing of empty boxes left over from Christmas or the return of unwanted presents to department stores. The term is of British origin, and the Oxford English Dictionary traces its earliest print attribution to 1833, four years before Charles Dickens referred to it in "The Pickwick Papers." The exact roots of the holiday name are unknown, but there are two leading theories, both of which are connected to charity traditionally distributed to lower classes on the day after Christmas.

One idea is that December 26 was the day centuries ago when lords of the manor and aristocrats typically distributed "Christmas boxes" often filled with small gifts, money and leftovers from Christmas dinner to their household servants and employees, who were required to work on December 25, in recognition of good service throughout the year. These boxes were, in essence, holiday bonuses. Another popular theory is that the Boxing Day moniker arose from the alms boxes that were placed in churches during the Advent season for the collection of monetary donations from parishioners. Clergy members distributed the contents of the boxes to the poor on December 26, which is also the feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr and a figure known for acts of charity. (Ireland celebrates December 26 as St. Stephen's Day.)

Boxing Day got its name when Queen Victoria was on the throne in the 1800s and has nothing to do with the sport of boxing.

The name comes from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor.

Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants - a day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters.

The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.

Amy, thank you for that boxing Day information. But, what do you mean by a summer kitchen? I understand the term to mean an outside kitchen set up or barbeque area. I think you're asking per my farming family comments. Both families had large homes with large kitchens and a still room on one side which is today called a  pantry and a place to put the metal milk containers while waiting for the cream to rise.

My folks had a simple white framed in  three-bedroom home with two of the bedrooms on a second floor and a fenced-in yard, very nineteen fifties in appearance.

Lloyd, we have 100 percent chance of rain with our snow predicted.

Patricia, farms in the area that I lived had a summer kitchen and a winter kitchen. Not many farms had A/C so hence a summer one that you could open doors and let the breeze (if any) blow through.  Some did have a woodstove to use then it wasn't heating up the rest of the house. Not all the farms had both....just some.

Amy, I know Canada is part of the United Kingdom but tend to forget you would celebrate the same holidays. :-[  Thank you for the explanation of Boxing Day.

Miss Ellen teases me about Googling locations in NYC connected with her on Google Maps and then "going" up and down the streets on the videos to see where she's been.
Now she has a new reason.  I found ActionKid videos on YouTube and have enjoyed watching his walks through various parts of NYC. Once or twice he's walked past the front of the store where she works.

He has concentrated on the wonderful decorations around the Rockefeller Plaza/5th Avenue area during the past week.
I just watched a walk he did yesterday (Christmas Day) in which he walked by the side windows of that store.  I texted her and gave her the information.  She replied that she had done those windows!!!!!  She's coming over tomorrow and I can't wait to hear more about her work there. I thought she just sold clothes!

I'm jumping in the middle of conversations because MY grandmother's house had a summer kitchen. It was the first room you walked in to from outside (back). My mother explained that Grandma used it to start her plants for the garden (Mother was impressed bacause Grandma even grew her own celery)... it also had a beautiful "pie-safe" by the door to keep baked goods cooler in the summer, but don't remember much else about that large room, but I don't remember a stove in there.

A door led to the "kitchen-kitchen" where Grandma had a wood burning stove and a green & yellow gas or some kind of petroleum type stove. There was a large pantry that was built under their stairs...the stairs going up were double wide so lots of room in that pantry. The wood matches were at the entrance of the pantry door. I do recall smaller tables to work on but not one to eat on in that room.

The last room on the back side of the house was the dining room. Monster table, wonderful carved buffet with a cake stand that seemed to always have her famous Prune Cake. It was my nightmare because we weren't allowed to say "no, thank you"... only, "A small piece, thank you". I still shudder at all the stuff that went into that cake. In one corner was another wood burning stove with the plate heating rack over....& it was carved looking iron. It was used to warm the room (no central heat when the house was build in 1914?, I have Dad's complete description of the building as he was a young teen & helped the builder). The stove also kept food warm while we ate. Since it was fairly new when Grandma died, I was told that stove was donated to the church she went to. That side of the family went to the Methodest church (only other was the Catholic, where Mom's side went). I thought I was related to everyone in the area so grew up knowing people could believe differently, I loved 'em all and always believed everyone had the right to their own beliefs.

So that's my story about a summer kitchen. That house and the whole town of Bonnots Mill, MO is on the National Registery, I wish we owned it yet.

Today's weather was not as predicted so I took a nice nap this afternoon. Supposed to have sunshine & 70s but was cloudy & chilly. No rain, we need it, but have seen lots worse weather around the country so won't complain.

Amy, I know the farms in the deep south had summer kitchens, but my relatives in Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado had off the kitchen, still rooms, a place to keep items cool.  I was there starting in the mid-fifties, so that they may have had them before that.

My Kentucky inlaws had a room under the cabin to keep items cool and a stone fireplace outside for summer cooking.

Shirley, what a setup your Grandma had!

Lots of memories in those last posts.  My father's parents lived on a farm and they had an outside kitchen to use in the summer.  The rest of the year she cooked on a wood stove in the kitchen.  As you came in the door it was a cupboard, a sink with a pump spigot, and a huge wood stove.  On the other side, it was a large ceiling to floor cupboard, a long work table with a cupboard above it that she was too short to reach, and another cupboard. When I was little, I used to love sitting between the wall and the wood stove on a cold winter day while Gramma Wright cooked dinner!

You might notice that there was no refrigerator or even an ice box in that kitchen.  There was an ice box in the cellar but most of the food was kept in the (I forget the name of it but it was dug into the hill and had a frame of stones around the door)

I got a lot done today...laundry, swiffered floors and went to two on line church services...my own church and the one in Texas where my grandson-in-law was in charge of the service and delivered the sermon.  He's a very special addition to our family!

Now, I'm heading for the haystack before my eyes permanently slam shut...again.  They've already done it twice while I tried to watch some television.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane, your description of a cool area under the ground, "but most of the food was kept in the (I forget the name of it, but it was dug into the hill and had a frame of stones around the door" was what my Kentucky inlaws had under their cabin. They just called it their cold storage.

Mine is like yours. Believe a Model 10K or K10 - a single cup at a time. If you still have the Manual they have a three step cleaning process in it. They sell a cleaner but in the past I have used white Vinegar. I think since Green Mountain bought them they decided they can make some money with their cleaner. As far as the place on top where you pour the water, I use paper towels and Q Tips to clean all those little corners there. Unplug it before you start poking around. The drip tray can go in the sink. As can the part where the coffee comes out (That can get pretty mucky from the coffee oils). Directions for that also in the Manual.  If you don't have the Manual I believe it is available on their Web Site. If you can't find it let me know what Model you have and I'll find it.  I have found that running three or four cups through in rapid sequence does flush out some "Stuff". That isn't their idea but something I came up with.

How many times do you need to run a cup of water through to get rid of the vinegar taste?

I've read too many " one more chapters ". Glad I came in to check posts before heading to  .

Good morning.
Temp is starting out at 8° this morning with a threat of snow around 10am. Family coming  around 11 or so and we get to meet the new pup!!

Jane, you brought up more memories with the ice box. When first married that is what we had...now I was just married, land was rented to a fellow to put his cows on at the time. Late one night I could hear a sound..and it got louder.grabbed my rifle thinking someone was raiding the ice box. At the same time my husband came in as I was heading to the summer kitchen ,the look on his face with me meeting him with the gun was priceless! Turned out the sound was the cattle grazing near the house.

Patricia, sleet is not nice.........takes down power line if heavy! :( The farm I worked on during school holidays milked cows ,separated the cream from it and the cans of cream were kept down a well till the truck came to pick it up.

Better scoot..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I had a flash of memory last night.  Gramma Wright and my dad and all his brothers and everyone else who lived on farms in those days, called that outside storage area a ROOT CELLAR!  Sometimes they were built over a spring and things were put in jars and lowered into the water.  Gramma Wright's didn't have water but my friend's grandparents did!

We're supposed to get snow flurries today.  In fact, it's supposed to be flurrying right now.  I think I'll go look to see if they're right.  Not yet!  But it looks threatening!  And it's only 30º out there.  I have a couple of things to do today and a phone call that I HAVE to make.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, 29° and will not get much warmer but I do not intend to go outside. MIGHT get some sunshine late day.  Sure would be nice to see it again. Another day with no help here

PATRICIA  I think you are having the snow we are not getting here. I now would mostly enjoy looking at it from my windows. I seldom get out these days.At times it seems this place has only me living in it. Seldom even hear anyone.

CALLIE  These days I ask my son to take me home before all the mess is cleaned up at his house. My grandson always helps clean up and my son helps, too.  Since I cannot do much anymore and get tired I rather come home early and just rest.

AMY  I had read about Boxing day before but could not remember why the name and for what. Thanks for reminding me just what Boxing day meant. I did know it was not getting the boxing gloves on and boxing.

LLOYD  these days I do not eat enough to get that stuffed feeling and glad I no longer get that stuffed feeling.

JANE  would that hole  in the hill have been a root cellar?

RAMMEL  I just looked out and the sky looks a bit lighter so maybe it  will clear up before sunset.

CALLIE  I have the water "tank" on my Keurig and when the coffee star  ts tasting odd I add 1 cup vinegar to it and fill the rest with water and run it through the machine then fill the tank with clean water and run it through a few times.

RAMMEL  I see you use the white vinegar, too, to clean the Keurig. Better than the chemical cleaner the sell.

In another hour or so I will call my daughter and wish her a happy birthday By that time she will really be 68 years old. That's me baby.

Have a good day and stay safe.

The book calls for THREE.  I do at least that. I do it more times if I see any residue in the last pass through.
Now that the Keurig is done the kitchen ceiling light has a burned out fluorescent tube. Something to do today - if I have a replacement. Don't like ladder work any more.

I do! she exclaimed, waving her hand wildly!

WHAT...Periods of freezing rain occurring. Travel will be very difficult to impossible due to slick roads. Additional ice accumulations less than one tenth inch, are expected. Winds gusting to 35 mph could blow trees over onto power lines and cause power outages.

* WHERE...Middle Tanana Valley.

* WHEN...Until noon today.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 35 mph could blow trees onto power lines and cause power outages. Winds and freezing rain will end this afternoon and conditions will improve then. Cooler temperatures this afternoon will cause water on roads to freeze.

They say that this will be the end of December's storms, but we've all heard this before. This has been an extremely quiet month, along with Omicron and Delta surging, especially among the twenty-somethings and teens. I would have gone crazy without my cell phone for local friends plus the internet and all of you. There is no one in the hallways and no one on the roads that I see from my window. We are now entering our tenth month of a total lockdown. I think this is worse than last winter and spring.

January and February, especially, are generally our coldest months before it starts warming again with more light in March. I have no idea of what will happen next, after the way it's been.

I sound depressing, and I'm so looking forward to warmer drier weather.

Amy, since our weather came from the Bering sea and we generally pass it on to the Yukon Territory, you may have a remnant or two. I'm not sure where it goes after that territory. We did get piles of snow and then rain. The City crews were keeping up with it, but they took Christmas Eve and Day off, and that's when we had our largest accumulation. Today is again more rain than sleet.

Edit, my sister purchased a brown Goldendoodle puppy for a personal second retirement gift. She thinks the retirement will stick this time. She's like you and Jane, has worked and had her own side businesses since she was a teen.

The last snow and ice photos, I promise, barring a significant calamity. We're not used to this much snow and ice, along with a pandemic and a holiday season! It's usually busier on a Monday, but everyone is asked to stay home and off the roads. The foothills and ridges are impassable.

Time to wish you all a good night.  My TV took a nosedive so I'm probably going to hit the haystack a bit early tonight.  I still have to get the coffee pot ready for morning, make doggie food  and hard boil a couple of eggs for Frankie to eat on the way to work.  She spent the night here and she never sits down for breakfast but she'll take a couple of hard boiled eggs and eat them on the way to work.  I guess it's better than nothing.

We had some pork chops for supper and I cooked up the leftover wagon wheel spaghetti in butter and spices and opened a jar of corn for our supper.  It was easy and pretty good.  It's the first time she had leftover "spaghetti" that way and she liked it!  I do that all the time with leftovers.

PATRICIA, nice pictures but I'm glad that's not what I see out my windows.  We had some flurries today but it never made it to the ground!  we're supposed to have flurries into the night but nothing on the ground in the morning.

AMY, you didn't really expect your kids to leave their nice puppy with you, did you?  They probably love her even more than you do!  Nice they visited!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one./color]

I enjoyed reading all the posts about EVERYFRIEND'S holiday celebrations‼️

Our Christmas with Dave and the family was very special.  We had our traditional live Dungeness Crab Fest Christmas Eve.  It broke my heart to see the four of them on the couch with out Michele as Dave read the Night Before Christmas 😩

Over all we spoke of Michele often🥰  Dave did a very thoughtful job in the gifts he purchased for the children 🥰.

#3 Son Mark, Megan and Jonah joined us Christmas afternoon and three hours later the Boston Crew arrived.  We had a PRIME prime rib dinner that was fabulous 🥰🥰

We thought we were going to have breakfast time together yesterday, but the Boston Family were worried about the big snow storm causing unsafe roads so headed to Vail at 5:30 AM.  The rest of enjoyed more time and we came home exhausted and fell into our RECHARGERS (aka, recliners) ‼️

Hope all of you are taking it easy and recovering from the festivities.

Have a good night of rest.  Back to physical therapy again tomorrow 🤪
Edit: GLORIA, AMY and SHIRLEY.  I appreciate your comments of concerns about my shoulder pain.  I have had X-rays done every time I see my surgeon and he says everything looks good on my complete reverse shoulder replacement.  He has said every time I see him that he feels the trauma my shoulder received after my fall has definitely added to the extra pain and issues I have had and then getting the reverse replacement means a whole different set of muscles have to be trained for me to be able to lift my arm again.  My physical therapist has worked on both shoulders, as my good one also needs replaced as the rotator cuff was messed up in the original fall I had.  She also works on my left hip pain in my replaced left hip done back in 2011.  It seems some muscles were damaged on it in my fall also.  By the way.....my fall was 9 months ago....never ever did I think I would still be recovering this long after the fall😩🤪😩🤪

Good morning everyone, Yippee I get a CNA today-at 9 this morning and for the 3 hours I am supposed to get. Good will get laundry done and while clothes are in the dryer she can go to the market for a few things.  glad I woke early so will have time to get here and have breakfast and dress.
Just 32° now so the roads will be icy. Have not heard or seen sanders going by or the maintenance man here early to get the walks here treated.  I know we who have lived here longer than 6 months miss Paul the former maintenance man

PATRICIA  I am surprised the public rooms on the bottom floor are open. When this round of covid started she locked those doors but only for one day. BUT with the shots or not you better have a mask on when you got out your door and into the halls.

AMY  I would love to get into a market and see what would tempt me  to eat. My sons do good but I always liked food shopping. Yvette is one who loves any kind of shopping and not being able to do much yet she is anxious for the knee to heal.  I called her yesterday to wish her a happy birthday. Yes same day as my daughter. She went to her in laws for Christmas and was sorry she did. She forgot about all the stairs she had to use and she suffered for it the next day. She usually has all the holidays at her home and her husband had to help her up and down those steep stairs. An old house and that was the kind of stairs at my son's house and why I live here now.

RAMMEL  my younger son worked as a roofer and ladders and heights never bothered him but now he thinks twice about climbing a ladder.

JANE  I did see where you remembered the name of root cellar. I only knew that  from reading so many books.  There is a light dusting of snow on the cars this morning.  Light rain in the forecast for today.

PATRICIA  I sure hope the roads here are not icy because the CNA might not drive on slick roads and I do need the help.

AMY  a well behaved puppy is unusual, at least for all the ones I had in my life.  Rather see snow than  more rain. We had so much rain last year no gardens needed to be watered.

PATRICIA  these last snow photos of yours remind me of ones you posted where you used to live. I would like looking out and seeing that snow instead of the black parking lot and cars.

JANE  at  times I cooked pasta and just had butter and spices on it. Tasty at times with out the sauce I usually put on it.

JENNY  I cannot understand why you have so much pain with your replaced shoulder. The ones I had for PT at home did a wonderful job with the therapy and still after 10 years have no trouble with it but the left one needs replacing but I will no go to a hospital with this covid in all of them.  I feel so bad you are in so much pain. Not nice to live with, with me it is my back and there is nothing they can do with arthritis in it.

Good morning.
We also had a light dusting of snow and now it is just cloudy and 25°.

Tidy up and fold laundry  are todays chores and not much else  unless I find something to do. Always something to do!

Jane, this pup has the same problem as Jesse both can't hold their licker!! Picked her up and in the blink of an eye I had my face washed!

Gloria, happy to read you are getting an early CNA, Hope she is a good one.

Patricia, oh my that is enough snow! We are to get snow most of this week but I hoppe it does pass us by.

Jenny,  we don't seem to heal as fast now and I don't know about you but my patience with myself is thin. Have more patience with others but not for me.

Lloyd, did you finish cracking the walnuts? They are going to taste great no matter how you use them.

Slept in so better put and egg in my boot and beat it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I need to get off this computer and get cracking!  I have laundry to fold and put away, too.  I might have forgotten that last load if I hadn't read AMY's note about it.

I got Frankie off to work with her fresh coffee and two hard boiled eggs.  She fixed something last night to take for her lunch but she said she only works until 12 today.

I don't think I want an egg in my boot this morning so I think I'll just get a "wiggle" on!  That usually works for me!  Have a good day, Everyfriend.  Hope it's better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Lloyd, every time you mention cracking those walnuts I think of how I finally got that job done without chasing walnut pieces all over the room. I took the bag of walnuts to where we had a locked down vise (one in the basement & one in the garage). I figured which way worked best to hold one in place & gave the handle a crank & they came out fine. I had to use the vise to crack the hickory nuts, too, to feed the squirrels. Looked like these squirrels weren't able to crack those nuts I brought back from Missouri so I helped. The nuts we found had worms in them so all went to the squirrels.

Gloria, do hope the CNA can give you the back rub as well as help with the chores. Didn't realize the 2 birthdays came same day & not sure I mentioned but give them a Happy wish from me, please. I'm another that laundry is in the game plan but with the utility room now sharing a litter box it is difficult to work around. I have cabinets to the ceiling over the washer & dryer but have to get out a ladder to reach any but the bottom shelf. I have a lot of stuff on the floor for that reason.  ::)

Amy, love your expression about the pup not being able to hold it's licker.... I haven't decided what kind of pup I want when the cats are gone (and I am not rushing them). My gr-daughter got a 2nd dog, a basset hound. She is having a problem training it & after research it seems that breed has a known problem & may take a year to "potty train". I am shocked... we got our German Shepherd at 4 weeks & she never-ever had an accident in the house. Of course everyone makes a crack about how fast that dog trained ME. We got her when Andy was about a year old & no thought of Pete yet, (2 & 1/2 years between them) so had to get someone potty trained fast!

Jane, first time in years I forgot to stand by the stove to watch the eggs start to boil to set the timer & I screwed up big time. I'm picky about my hard boiled eggs & don't like the yolk icky or too done that they turn green. How long do you cook yours? Got to get some more, discovered the last carton of 18 I brought home about half are stuck to the bottom. I always open & check before putting into my basket & didn't see any cracked ones but discovered one was cracked & leaked all through. Maybe all those stuck are cracked, but they didn't get that way on my watch! Was in a hurry & didn't roll them around in the carton like I usually do. Because of warning some years ago about not eating any pre-cracked eggs, I will try to get them into a skillet & scramble for the critters down by the river.

Jenny, I can imagine how hard it was this first Christmas without the kids mother. Good that you & Bob could help fill the gap, although I know my mother never got over the sad feeling about growing up without a mother. For sure it was the reason me & my siblings had the best mother in the world, she tried to be everything she wished for when she was little. Do hope your shoulders feel better soon, got to teach you how to roll when you fall so you don't damage those muscles & bones! Maybe too late for that?  ;)

Patricia, right this moment I am glad I don't have to clean off the driveway, would not have the energy.... but love seeing the photos you posted! I'm counting on a week of sleep after the holidays to catch up. I've been getting between 4 & 5 hours a night but only minutes of deep sleep & that doesn't work unless I get a good daytime nap. Tom sleeps in his bed in my room but I wake up when he gets up & that is a couple times a night. I don't get out of bed but do listen until he finds his way from the litterbox to his dry food & bowl of water & back to bed. About like having a baby again! He is outside in the sun right now as well as Callie... I worry that he will lose his bearings & go into the pitbull's yard next door. Not sure if that dog is as tough as her bark but she sounds wicked & hates cats. Youngest son is to buy a pot of grass at the pet store to bring them, Tom & Tiger have been checking out the yard & nothing they like right now. I guess Callie wanders off in yards still green to get her fix. Do you keep grass on hand for Farrah?  I used to keep a pot for old LaurenKat but these go outside enough I haven't done that. Working on it..........

I bought the new Fitbit Versa 3 and daughter set it up for me yesterday while her husband sharpened all my knives. He really has a knack for putting that edge on & already had a nice surprise when using a sharp one last night. Didn't wear me out! My daughter forgot to mention the different type of charger & how to find the battery status... but uTube came to the rescue! Sleep is my biggest health issue, not enough & I start falling apart. I have always slept with one eye open but never had any trouble falling right back to sleep. Fitbit tells me I fall asleep in less than 5 minutes, this just happens to be a bad time with the cats....And I'd better get a move on or it'll be New Years Eve! I've talked enough for 3 days, right?

Good morning from an Interior at plus 23 with light snow expected. Today's going into the New year will be in the plus range with light snow daily, tapering off in the afternoon. Other than the previous storming or sleeting, pretty much what we've had all month, only a milder version. I haven't seen or heard  any snow clearing equipment since the 22nd. I also haven't heard or seen anyone in the building either. It's an odd experience. Of course, if I go down to collect my mail, I'm sure there will be people and security hanging around.

Gloria, helping services are still backlogged, and the ones working are not allowed to give rides or grocery shop for clients. You can request rides from Vantran, a service by the city for disabled individuals, or one of the Senior Centers, but those need to be pre-scheduled early, and I don't qualify. Only one grocery started offering delivery, although all offer pre-order and pickup services. I certainly miss the before March 2020's shutdown, our 24/7 maintenance. I wonder if we ever get that back?

Our main parking areas are in the building's front and along the side to my apartment's right. Some folks occasionally park in the Native Elders' program's parking lot, and the Chevron station pays the Elders to use some parking for their vehicles. However, they leave notices on the cars parking there on their own. And have them towed if they make a habit of it.

Jenny, my leg, injured in my February fall, still aches occasionally when I overdo or hurts when my osteoporosis kicks in with variable barometric pressure. It's never going to be full strength again, as is usual with my friends as well. I can't open jars, keep my balance or not spill things unless I'm careful and paying attention. It's one of the facts of life and one I remember from my mother and grandmother, and my sister shares with me.

I'm glad you could be with family during the holidays, but sorry to read about your continuing pain.

Shirley, all that wonderful walking, saving money, seeing wildlife, getting good photos, and meandering around the wildlife sanctuary, ended in February 2014 when I fell on my knees on black ice. Before that, I thought nothing of walking ten miles each way to work or ten or twelve miles through the Refuge or to get where I wanted to go. People sometimes expressed astonishment for my walking, but I have always been unable to drive, had eye problems, and regarded the price of monthly bus rides as prohibitive, and their schedules didn't often jive with mine.

People were/are dependent on cars, even to the extent of five-minute drives, so I never thought what I did was out of the ordinary. We had a ten-year drought end in 2017, but we had moisture with five rivers either in or around the city. The city is built partly on the lower foothills and partly on the valley floor. It is in what used to be the prime Athabaskan hunting grounds, so there are forests, mountains, and rivers all around. We had more animal in-town sightings through the seventies, but that has diminished due to buildup and almost constant summer construction since 2015.

Jane, with Amy's Luna and seeing photos of my sister's new dog, I'm jealous, but we're only allowed one pet, 20 pounds or less. The building's dog park is the fenced area directly below my apartment, so I occasionally hear or see one below, but it's not the same as doggy cuddles. Farrah has always been calm at the vets and often ignored dogs coming by to sniff her carrier, so I believe she would be okay with a second animal after an initial period, but it's not to be.

I'd offer to share some of my snow with you, but you'd have to pay for shipping

I have work to do here as well. I'm hoping if I keep my head down, I won't notice it? Darn! I looked up, and now the guilt's creeping in. I'll have to try harder!  ::)

Good morning Lloyd! Well, I've written my daily book. It's time to proofread my auto-corrects and move on.

Shirley, you snuck in just as I was about to post! Yes, I often buy Farrah her pot of grass. She tends to regard my plants hungrier afterward. This is why they're eight-foot-high on a shelving unit with their lighting. She absolutely tears into her grass. She must be missing a nutrient altho she has healthy and diet food from the vet, and her water is fresh daily.

Just a quickie for SHIRLEY...a long time ago when I was very young, a friend told me the best way to make hard boiled eggs on an electric stove.  You put the eggs in a pan, add water to cover them, bring the water to hard boil and cover with a lid.  Turn off the burner leaving the pot on the burner and set the timer for 15 minutes.  At the end of 15 minutes you drain them and cover them with cold water adding more as needed until the eggs cool.  Peel, eat and enjoy!

Darn, Jane, I have a gas stove so any recipe for that?  I remember our former fearless leader many years ago said to bring to boil & turn off & let sit 10 min. (Was it Joan or Pat?)  But mine were not done enough to suit me. I have not found the right timing but sure missed it yesterday!

I need a nap, been cleaning up my bedroom for Tom, had to throw away the small rug I put under the litter box in there, just stuffed it into the trash bag I put under that rug so whatever happened to go outside the litter box wouldn't get on the wall to wall carpet (picture it, all white carpet & cats!!!) Bad enough the Tidy Cats litter goes everywhere...

Jane , that is the same way I do my eggs, perfect every time.
Shirley, just bring the water to a boil then turn your gas off. I leave mine 15 min, don't like runny eggs and this way no black around the yolk.

Callie, how cool is that to be able to see a window that your granddaughter did ! That must have been a surprise to both of you.

Shirley, when the time comes for a new addition check out the rescue sites. There are a lot of dogs big and small looking for their forever home. No more pups for me, a rescue it will be.

Jane, I just wanted to hear their thoughts and I got them ;)  I think our puppy days are over... just rescue dogs for us.

I grabbed the bull by the horns and finally got the panty done. Everything is now in order and multiple items were vacuumed sealed.Job done, now onto the next one!

Putting my feet up for the evening..

Ellen was here for 3 hours and I heard more about some adventures she's had.

The store windows were just mannequins in front of various colored panels. She said the store manager and she had to stand on very tall ladders to hang the panels made of rather heavy canvas.  The manager picked the outfits and Ellen put them on the mannequins. They will be changed out about every 5 weeks.

I think I've mentioned that she's been an Extra on several episodes in the new season (starts in February) of the Amazon Prime show "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".
She had a video on her phone of one episode when she was part of an audience at a performance by Mrs. M.  They filmed in the Carnegie Center auditorium and, at one point, the extras, who were the "audience" were sent to the first balcony.   Looked as if they filled the entire front row and around on the side.  While they were waiting for some shots taken on the stage, they started doing The Wave.  She said the director and staff laughed and seemed to enjoy it - before, of course, "getting down to business".
How many people do you think have done The Wave  in The Carnegie Center? :)

Shirley and Jane:  that's the way my Mother did hard-boiled eggs.  She let them set until the water was cool.  Sometimes I have luck with it and sometimes I don't.  I don't use that many any more so, after I discovered a sealed pack of six hardboiled and peeled eggs at Braum's - I just get them.

First thought was "What? :o " when I read about buying a pot of grass!  Took a minute to realize it was grass that grows on a lawn instead of the "other kind"  :D

Enjoy your Evening, Everyfriend, sleep well and have pleasant dreams.

About the eggs....immersing them in cold water makes them a lot easier to peel off the shells.  And SHIRLEY, AMY, if you let them sit 15 minutes in tthe hot water after cooking them on a gas stove, I bet they'd be perfect!

I'm heading for the haystack now.  My "wiggle" this morning got a lot accomplished and I'm really tired.  My eyes went into slam shut mode while I was watching TV and Perry Mason ended up defending someone who wasn't even in the show I started watching.  Beginning of one...end of another!

PATRICIA, I started the tour of Alaska and decided I'd finish it tomorrow when I'm wid awake.  It looks like the tour I've been yearning to take for several years.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Okay, Patricia, I was heading to bed until I clicked on your link & have been sitting here watching that trip in awe. I bookmarked to watch another time but made the mistake of having a "quick look".... that lasted for over 2 hours?  I really felt like I was there & know I could never do all the hiking they did each day so thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you! I am off to bed totally worn out! :smitten:

Jane, I agree that "ice bath" makes the shells peel off better & will get more eggs tomorrow & let you know how it goes. Thanks! Busy day tomorrow with the family gathering in the evening. I plan to cut my hair & get rid of this shaggy look, don't know how many times in the last 10 years I tried to let it grow & cut it off at this stage. Guess I am never going to be that nice little old lady with her hair in a bun. You have no idea how funny that idea is.  :2funny:

Sweet dreams to all, God Bless.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  LLOYD, JoanFL passed away a couple of years ago. I'm not sure exactly when but we all miss her!  I was one of the ones who was here before you!  I remember seeing some of your first posts.  And we have met face-to-face when you and Nancy travelled East one summer.  You parked in the WM parking lot and that's where I came to meet you.  I cherish that meeting.  I drove you around my town and showed you where I live and we had lunch together.

Today, I have my appt. with the radiologist.  I'm not looking forward to radiation therapy but I'll be glad when it's over!

SHIRLEY, let me know what happens with the hard boiled eggs.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

No new snow or rain here..yet. Not sure what today will bring but I know I have the don't wanna's. Don't wanna clean the cupboards and don't wanna tackle the basement....hmm. decision decisions.

Jane, that is what I do with the eggs.....plus I try not to use fresh eggs as they are a toot to peel. You never said anything about radiation.....but you will come through .

Bubble. well said!!

Patricia, no sharing the snow please. You certainly are getting more than your share there.........send it to drought stricken CA.....they sure could use the moisture.

For the cat folks. My friend would get untreated ots and grow them for his cats. He would have one ready to eat and a week later would start another pot so it would be ready when the first one died.

Better hop to it....

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning!  I haven't been here for awhile but I guess I wasn't missed.   ;D

Trying to catch up with everything but can't seem to get it done as soon as I would like. Too many end-of-year things to attend to.  But, since the year is almost over I guess things will settle down.  Just in time to start all over again scheduling appointments and tending to house maintenance.  It never ends.

I hard boil my eggs in batches of six at a time in the Instant Pot.  They come out perfect every time and peel easily.  I don't boil them on the stove anymore.

Callie, back in the day when I helped my Dad with the front window of his business we called it "window dressing".   I wonder what Miss Emily calls it now.  Last night my son and I watched a YouTube walking tour of the fabulous Hudson Yard shopping mall in NYC.  We were both astounded because when he lived in Manhattan there was nothing like that on the West Side. So much has changed in the Manhattan area since he lived there.  New sky scrapers have cropped up in places that used to be just small shops lining the streets.  We enjoy the YouTube walking tours because he and I can see all the changes that have taken place since he left.  One of the tours took us right by his co-op apartment building on Bedford Street in the West Village.

Take care, All.

I still have one of those old automatic electric egg cookers. About 8 or 9 inches around with a black Bakelite top. I used it on Monday to hard cook several eggs I had coming to the end of their time. The needle on the tray (for putting a hole in the end of the egg) is still good but the aluminum tray is getting a bit thin. Now have some HB eggs for "out of hand" or egg salad.  I think I have a newer one from my son's place stashed away for a back up.

Phylllis, how interesting that you and your son watch the Walks Through NYC.  I've never been there (unless changing planes at LaGuardia or Kennedy counts  ;) ) but when I told Ellen (Emily is her sister, the chiropractor) some of the things I'd seen on the videos, she knew exactly where they are and usually more to tell about the area.
She said she had "done" the store windows and I didn't think about the term "dressing" them.

I understand what you mean by "end of the year" things to attend to! Seems as if I get a few things done - and more appear. Really need to take care of a few things "out and about" before Friday and am having trouble finding that Round Tuit!

Onward and Upward.

Hello, Everyfriend!

CALLIE, I forgot to say how neat that is that you and Ellen can talk about where she is and what she does!  I bet she thinks that's pretty special that her Grandmother is interested enough in where she is and what she's doing that she watches it on the computer.

I've had a day full of thinking and putting things in perspective.  My visit with the radiologist gave me lots to consider.  He gave me a choice of either doing it or not doing it and he gave me lots of reasons on both sides.  I'm thinking and thinking and thinking until my brain needs a vacation.

I think I'll go deposit myself in the haystack and try to give my brain a rest.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning,

Sunny and a bit Brrrr cold in central Oklahoma.

Jane, thank you for the nice comment about Ellen's and my relationship. Although I have never had a desire to even visit NYC - and certainly wouldn't live there - I do enjoy finding places on Google Maps that she mentions and then using the arrows on the pictures to go up and down the streets.

With only three Grands, I found it easy to do "one-on-ones" with each of them from the time they were born and feel that I'm reaping the rewards for doing so because they all keep in close touch with me and I love it.

Couldn't believe my luck doing necessary errands yesterday. I had planned to go to the bank, Braum's, Walgreens and maybe the post office on Tuesday afternoon after my hair appointment. No problem at Braum's but all the drive-up lines were full at the bank and the Walgreens parking lot was packed. I figured there would be lines at the p.o. so I just came on home.

Rather late yesterday morning, I decided to try again and deal with whatever was necessary. Glory Be! Only one other car in the four drive-up lines at the bank, there were only three other people in Walgreens and I was literally the only person other than the clerk in the post office!
I guess everybody else had been there on Tuesday.

Today is definitely for Domestic Duties!  One load is in the washer and another one is waiting. Have brought in the outside decorations and will start putting away the inside ones "leisurely"  ;)

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning everyone, fell as;eep about 2 this morning, maybe even later. One of those nights I was sleepy andwent to bed and then was wide awake. Glad CNA is coming at 1 this afternoon. Was a different woman who called yesterday and was good not to have to talk to tthe one who has been sending that gals out to work.

PATRICIA  before this darn covid hit we had a car from town who would take us seniors to doctor appointments  and a bus that went to the 3 different senior housing to take folks to the CVS drugstore and then on to the one market in town on Wednesdays. Once a month they would take a busload of the same folks to a mall in the next town.  Glad we can still send our help to the market for us. I know one son comes every Saturday and the other one is only a few miles away and they both would go to the market for me. I am aware they are short handed but resent the one sending them now talking to me like I am senile or just plain stupid telling me I would have to learn to get up earlier  in the mornings because that was the time I would be getting help from now on.  I don't know about  the rest of you but I can only get to sleep when I am tired and wake when I have had enough either 4 hours or as much as 9 hours a few times.  The parking lot is in front of the building here. T here are 3 rows for parking and visito parking and where CNA's park are theed of the third, farthest away from the door.  Handicapp spots aet in the first 2 rows closest  to the from door.  With only 53 apartments and 1 person in each and not everyone has a car. one apartment -for  maintenance man-because new one has 4 kids and wife and house in Mass. - is empty.

JANE  that is how my daughter makes hard boiled eggs. she learned that from the old head cook at the nursing home where she ended up as the head cook at 18.

SHIRLEY  I only boiled eggs 5 minutes and that was enough for me. My MIL boiled hers half an hour and at Easter we had to eat a boiled egg before we had dinner. I gaggedon her boiled eggs, around the yolk and it would be green from being so over cooked.

LLOYD  still overcast here, would love to see sunshine again.

AMY  the last few dogs my daughter had have all been rescue ones.  Younger son has a rescue dog and other son has no dog anymore.

PATRICIA  I will enjoy that trip afterI post here. Now I think it is time I have my breakfast.

JANE  good luck with the Radiation treatments.

PHYLLIS  like you I enjoy watching walking tours no matter where they are.

wow 12 noon and CNA is here, have a  good day and s tay safe.

From the Anchorage Times;

Alaskans in the Interior digging out after a wintry weekend wallop of snow, ice, wind
By Dan Bross, KUAC - Fairbanks -December 30, 2021

"The Interior is digging out from the region's second major storm this week.
Another foot of snow fell in Fairbanks Tuesday into Wednesday and the community continues to deal with rough road conditions and power outages caused by falling trees.

The new snow was accompanied by high winds that caused drifting. Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Bryce Ward says plowing operations are trying to catch up.

"It is still going to be sometime before all of our roads are cleared," he said.

According to the state Department of Transportation, crews focused Wednesday on opening up access but cautioned of narrow lanes until they can get back and fully clear roadways. The situation is worse outside town, including over Steese Highway Summits where work continues to open the road and get plows beyond to Central and Circle.

Meanwhile, several hundred Golden Valley Electric customers remained without electricity as of Wednesday night due to storm bent and broken trees on power lines and poles. Robert Altman and his wife are among Eielson Farm Road area residents who haven't had power since Sunday.

"The only thing that's been helping us is we have a little Craftsman generator that we bought from Home Depot," he said.

Altman said the 2,200-watt portable generator is enough to keep their Toyostove heater and other essentials powered.

"I also raise chickens so we have our chicken coop plugged in, and then we alternate the plug ins for the refrigerator," he said. "You know we'll plug it in during the day and then unplug it at night when we aren't going to be opening it.  We go and get water from the regular water place like everybody else. My wife's been cooking on a little butane cook stove."

Altman said nine area power poles located well off the road are damaged.

"They need a bulldozer to get to where the poles are," he said.

The Eielson Farm Road outage is one of over 100 that Golden Valley Electric Association is working to fix. An online post from the utility said it has 18 crews in the field and nine more coming up from Anchorage with the goal of restoring service to all customers by late Friday. It notes that some customers have sustained to damage to private power equipment that the utility is not responsible for.

Meanwhile, temperatures are forecast to cool, and Mayor Ward said the borough's emergency operations center is working with the Red Cross to help any residents without heat.

"To provide housing vouchers for folks that are without power that are not able to get that power re-secured," he said.

Ward said no one had requested assistance as of Wednesday night, but encourages people to check on their neighbors

While borough emergency and road service operations are functioning, many other borough services including library and recreation remain shut down due to storm impacts.

The weather pattern that funneled so much moisture into the Interior is shifting, and no additional storms are forecast. National Weather Service meteorologist Bobby Bianco said Fairbanks December 2021 snowfall is nearing a record.

"We've had around 47 inches of snow, the second snowiest on record," Bianco said."'

Had a post all done & without touching anything it vanished. Not sure why my computer is doing this but I'm getting disgusted. Will be back later, on a mission to get photo of the gathering ready to send & trying to get recent photos of the ones missing to clone in. The computer with PSP on is so fragile I'm afraid it will crash every time I use it & also it no longer will send or receive mail so must take photos to it on thumb drive or SD card. I am not too good with this stuff so will be back when that job is done.

It is cold out here but the ice/snow & bitter cold starts tomorrow afternoon so the big job is to bring in outside Christmas lights/decorations BEFORE winter hits.

Are you having power dips or interruptions?

Mail? ? ? Did you restart your computer since you lost your post?  It might help.

So many problems everyfriend is having today and this week.  I hope all clears up and all's well soon!

CALLIE, that one-on=one time with the grandchildren can be so precious.  I have 7 grandchildren and only 3 of them grew up in the town where I live.  But I was lucky to be able to take leave of absence from work and travel to Texas to watch 2 more of them for 7 summers.  I loved that because they were so far away I never expected to get close with them.  The one who grew up in Montreal came for long visits 3 times a year and we got close.  And Frankie grew up about an hours drive from me and now lives here in town and we couldn't be closer.  Where there's a will, there's a way!

I'm off to the haystack and my mind is just about made up NOT to do the radiation.  I have several days before I have to report to the dr. but I don't think I'll change my mind and that should assure a good night's sleep.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, going to be another gloomy day here with fog. fog rolled in yesterday afternoon. Hope people stay home to celebrate the New Year instead of going out  and them driving home under the influence and in fog.  Glad my family are all pretty sane and sober folks.

PATRICIA  finally got to finish that trip to Fairbanks last night. Beautiful scenery and wonderful trip.

SHIRLEY  I was telling Regina yesterday about the talk of hard boiled eggs. I know on the electric stove when had in Ca. she brought them to a boil and shut the burner off and left them in the water for 30 minutes. Now she has a gas stove and still does it that way. Never know where our conversations go from here.

AMY  rather have a slightly runny yolk instead of green around the yolk like my MIL got from boiling for 30 minutes.

JANE  I have done that  on some mornings when I wake early like now. At 9am I start watching Perry Mason and fall asleep and wake up at the end of a different lawyer Matlock winning a case.

AMY  I am not missing I am here.

SHIRLEY  I still have to install my PSP on this machine. Don't know why I am waiting to do it .

JANE  I went to San Diego for 20 years on my vacations so never got close to those 2 grandsons.  Not close at all to my 2 granddaughters, one is always working and the other has no personality and just about only talks to her mother. My computer grandson  I see often and he does call and send me video clips of my great grand  my adopted grandson is always working or out with his friends.

Yesterday when the DNA left there was a paper slipped under my door. From the office, someone was taken out yesterday with a case of Covid, that is the third one now the other 2 are home now. I just stay here in my own place and wipe everything the CNA's touch when they leave. I am beginning to think I do not want them anymore but they do the things I cannot do anymore. I also have a spray Yvette got me that is a Lysol disinfection spray that I spray in here when they leave.

Think I will try and have a nap before CNA gets here at 11 today. The one in charge is back. Had heard she quit or was fired but she is the one who called for yesterday's CNA  and was I ever glad to hear her. When she called yesterday we talked a bit and I told her a bit about the one I wanted to shake, she laughed and said a few others felt that way, too.

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy.

Good morning..

We have flurries and freezing rain to look forward to today..starting with a temp of 19° at the moment.

Need to pick up some groceries, not much as pantry is full. We need milk and I also need vegetable broth to make some soup for our neighbour. She had a second xray yesterday and isn't feeling great. Her covid test came back negative so that was good.

Gloria, that is good news that the one you like is back. Seems you weren't the only one having problems with that other one.

I don't think anyone of us will be sad to see 2021 go. Let's hope 2022 is without all the perils of 2021. Dare we ask for no flooding, no fires, no covid and no fighting in the world. I know this is a long shot but one can always pray for this.

Better get ready for town, will be amongst the first in and out......quick like a bunny.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We don't have the snow or even the rain but we sure have the fog!  They issued a driver's warning this morning to last until almost noon.

Nice to see people up and about.  GLORIA, good for you getting back the lady you like!

AMY, be careful in the bad weather.  Enjoy the soup!

Cooper is already bugging to take a walk so I'm going to go get dressed and get out there.  It's finally light enough to see where we're going.  Frankie left for work around 7 and he's been bugging me for almost an hour now.  I guess I better get going!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow. (The New Year!)  I wish all the same things for the New Year that AMY does!

                              HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL!

I like your New Year poem/musings/wishes, Micheal, and may 2022 be "filled with sparkle", for you, too.

We plan to have a somewhat traditional North Carolina New Year's good luck dinner.  Pork chops (takes the place of ham or bacon), with a side of Hoppin' John, and Braised Bok Choy, (Chinese cabbage) and that takes the place of Collards.  I may live in NC but I don't eat Collards.....ever.  And to honor the New Year's celebration in Times Square and all the years we lived in New York state, we are having New York style cheesecake for dessert.  All of these are supposed to bring luck in the New Year.  I hope it works.

If some of you don't know what Hoppin' John is here is a recipe for it   https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=hoppin+john

Too warm here to feel like New Year's Eve.  It is supposed to go up to 73 deg. this afternoon.

Take care, All, and may good luck come to everyone in the New Year!

Around these parts, the traditional New Year's dinner is sauer kraut and pork.  It's a German tradition and there were a lot of Germans in PA.  People know them as Pennsylvania Dutch but my grandfather was German and not PA Dutch.  We have to have sauerkraut for the New Year.  On of my daughters did not like sauerkraut but she managed to down 3 shreds of it so she could share the family luck.

The old traditions are interesting, aren't they!  We all have our own!

MYCHEAL, all those good wishes are back atcha.  Thank you!

I don't remember my family (who were "Yankees") having a New Year's menu tradition but I learned to make Hoppin' John when I married a Mississippi native.
We used to make our sons eat as many blackeyed peas as their age but had to stop that when our 10-year-old absolutely rebelled.  ;)

Phyllis, I learned to make a lot of Southern dishes after marriage but I firmly told my husband that he'd have to go to his Mother's if he wanted turnip greens, collards or any other Southern "greens". Fortunately, he didn't like them, either.

Still bumbling along trying to clean up messes. I'm determined to get outside to bring in the Christmas decorations and unplug the motorhome. I had it plugged in just in case I needed the frig or freezer for holiday foods. I will run the generator for it's monthly warm up while at it.

Have a question, anyone that puts out Christmas decorations, do you spray them for spiders or bugs when you bring them back in?  We've had so many spiders on the house this year I am really paranoid about bringing them into the basement but afraid sprays might short out the lights. Any suggestions?  I bought new LED lights last year & more this.

Hey, Rick, not at all sure what goes on with the computer dropping pages but the Kindle Fire just did that to me while I was playing solitaire. I haven't noticed power flickering but guess the wi-fi could do that. Maybe the kids can tell if it does? I am struggling with a new Fitbit Versa 3 and my car has come up with a new "banner" on the dash that is driving me nuts. It insists I need to put in the password to keep using something & I don't have a clue what it means. Had that car over a year & took it in yesterday for warranty work... they put in a jack that wouldn't hold the car up & just now got the new ones in. But I forgot about this other problem so will have to call back. I have just over 3,000 miles on it so far but sure don't like their "improvements" over the one I traded in (a 2013 model). The 7 year warranty ran out & I was sure all those electronics would fall apart so found the new model & didn't dream they would make so many stupid changes. Wind is kicking up so better get my outside jobs done before we go down the dumpers tonight. Snow I would welcome but not ice with the winds we get.

Happy New Year to ALL~~
