Old alphabet was,

A is for apple, and
B is for Boat,
That used to be right,
but now it won't float.
Age before beauty is what we once said,
But let's be a bit more realistic instead.

New Alphabet is,

A is for arthritis;
B is the bad back,
C is for chest pains, perhaps cardiac.
D is for dental decay and decline;
E is for eyesight, can't read that top line.
F is for fissures and fluid retention,
G is for gas, which I'd rather not mention.
H is high blood pressure--I'd rather it low;
I for incisions with scars you can show.
J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend.
K is for knees that crack when they bend.
L for libido, what happened to sex?
M is for memory, I forget! What comes next?
N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;
O is for osteo, the bones that don't grow!
P for p prescriptions, I have quite a few,
Just give me a pill and I'll be good as new.
Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?
R for reflux, one meal turns to two.
S for sleepless nights, counting my fears.
T for tinnitus; there's bells in my ears.
U is for urinary; big troubles with flow;
V is for vertigo, that's "dizzy" you know.
W is for worry, NOW what's going round?
X is for X-ray, and what might be found.
Y is another year I'm left here behind,
Z is for zest that I still have--in my mind.

I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed,
And I've kept twenty-six doctors fully employed!!
May your troubles be less, your blessings more and nothing but Happiness come through your door.

Poem

Before winter comes and locks the land
Imprisons with ice tipped hand
I must gather, set aside and store
Supplies needed to take me through.
Boxes of clouds from a summer day,
Sunrise and sunset at the shore.
A shell to hold against my ear
To hear the sea, feel the sand warm
From day long shining sun.
Baskets of smells, earth fresh from
A warm spring shower.
Damask roses heady scent
To envelope me in winters dark.
Spring carnations, hyacinths,
New mown grass.
Bushels of sounds, a robin's song,
Beating of wings across the sky.
Buzz of bees hovering, sipping
Nectar from the lily's cup.
Trunks of things you do not see
When winter closes in.
A spiders web of lacy lightness,
Silvered sparkled in morning dew.
Fireflies sending messages after dark,
Moonflowers blooming on the vine.
All the smells and sounds and sights
Stored in my mind for cold winter nights.

Good morning...

Foggy out with a temp of 31° this morning..
Going to have a lazy day here.....just meals to do and that is it...maybe. Will be a quiet day here ,no gatherings.

Bubble thank you for the new start. Wondered if a Dr could read his own hand writing??

Phyllis , love the snowy pine boughs.

Patricia, hope folks have their power back on and roads plowed.

Gloria, one day closer to getting Yvette back!!

Lloyd,I love raspberries, you may have all the rest of the fruit just pass the raspberries this way please.

Callie, the information I read on collards said it was like a loose cabbage. Guess it is not all that tasty?

Wishing my friends a Happy New Years day..

enjoy your day and stay safe.

Thanks, Bubble, for using one of my graphics and especially since that was one I liked.

Amy, I can't speak for Callie but, but for me Collards is one of the Southern traditional dishes I will not eat.  It is a green... like Kale... but when cooked it becomes a bitter tasting limp weed.  IMO!  Most Southern cooks will cook it in bacon fat and add things to try to make it taste better....but it doesn't!  >:(

The big pot of Hoppin' John is ready and I'll reheat it, and add the chopped Bok Choy at the end.  I'm making corn bread to go with it.  That is another southern New Year's tradition.

The weather for the new year looks just like the weather for the old year.  Warm and cloudy today and tomorrow but on Monday we will have a 30 deg. drop and the possibility of a little snow in Central NC.  Winter may finally get here.

Take care, All.

Phyllis, thank you for the explanation. Kale and I are not a fan so I would not like collards.

Happy First Day of 2022!

Amy, I agree with Phyllis about the taste of collard as well as turnip greens and most other similar greens. :P

My Plan du Jour is to put a small pork loin and a sweet potato in the slow cooker to have with black-eyed peas (for Good Luck in the new year) and then settle in to watch the Oklahoma State Cowboys take on Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Most of my family are in AZ for the football game and the pix look as if they're having a grand time.

It's certainly warmer than central Oklahoma!  We've already had our high temperature for the day - which was 32º!  Patio looks as if we had a bit of rain overnight so streets may be slick. Glad I'm tucked in "for the duration".

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Guess I'll go back to bed, I'm disappointed losing another long post, will have to go back to typing on Word Pad so I can copy & paste again if it didn't stick the first time. This ain't no way to start a new year!

Good morning should say afternoon. Had trouble getting started today. Did let my son in at 10:30. Another cold damp and gloomy and foggy day. Think I will spend the rest of the day on the couch with a warm throw on me. Not much up to chatting or should I say typing? Even forgot the Rose Parade. Oh well is just a regular Saturday for me

I am OK just down after a week with no sunshine. Will try to do better tomorrow. NO it is not a hangover, with all my meds it is a good thing I am not a drinker some of the pills and alcohol do not go together.

Being a Yankee I never heard of a  New Year tradition here, at least not in my family or anyone we knew.

BUBBLE  wonderful graphics.  My kind of winter scene. Love the Old Alphabet and just had to copy/save  The poem sure brought back a lot of memories. Sure could use one of those sunny days now. Hmm reading one's own handwriting? When I send a CNA to the market I let them write down what I need. Even I cannot read what I write anymore. Just scribbles. Mind goes faster than hand can move. I think I will save your whole post for this morning, all keepers. Thank you for starting 2022 off on a good start with all the goodies.

PHYLLIS  love the graphic in your creation. Would love te bee there. Reminded me of the first time I was on a snowmobile in northern Maine. My niece's husband was working up there and they invited me up for a few weeks. We were visiting some of their friends where he kept his snowmobile. He started asking if I would like to go for a ride, sure. In those days I was up to try most anything. Ok he had an older snowmobile suit they had me put on-picture it he was a rugged 6 feet+ and I was a slim 5'1" Their friend's wife had boots that fit me. I must have look like something the dog refused to drag in. Anyway we headed out with me sitting in back of him on the snowmobile and I made him promise not to go fast. He didn't but at first  it felt like he was going 90 mph. Eventually I relaxed and we got into the woods, tall pines, with the branches bent toward the ground and full of snow. there was a full moon and as bright as daylight. Like going through a fairy land. I was around 45 at the time and I still remember it vividly. When I saw your graphic I thought at first noh wow a snowmobile riding down that path would be great then thought NO too noisy to spoil the beauty.

AMY  never even saw collard greens but just the name turns me off. cannot stand kale either. More than one person tried getting me to eat it in different ways-drinks to soups-yuck.

CALLIE  only green leaves I eat are lettuce and cabbage, I know in the market at times they sell beet leaves, like beets but leaves are for animals or compost pile.

LLOYD  main thing is you did post and it is always good to see you.

SHIRLEY  I always type on notepad since OSCAR from the Nest in SN told me how and even then now and then my post goes into cyber space. I try to remember to make sure it posts before I delete the notepad.

Don't know if I mentioned it but on Wednesday I looked out and saw the ambulance leaving the parking lot. Half hour later and paper was clid under the door and it was to let us know another person was taken to the hospital. She had opened the library and the community room on Monday and everything is locked up again. That is the third case in here and the other 2 are home and fine.

Happy New Year. Happier and healthier than the one we are now leaving behind us. I think we all pray God hears out prayers to get rid of this covid

Both of my husbands were Kentuckians altho one from the north and one from the south of Kentucky. So, I learned to cook those greens but the only time I actually had a small serving was if I was a guest at a relative's house. I was at his uncle's house where they once served squirrel. The taste of the fat was horrendous and I guess my facial expression wasn't complimentary as the whole table erupted into laughter!

I'm going to have my traditional German (my grandfather) sauer kraut and pork for my supper.  Daddy George used to say that if you didn't eat sauer kraut on New Year's Day you'd have bad luck all year long.  I'm not taking any chances.  I learned to love it when I was little and I still do!

Good morning everyone, from what I saw on the forecast the whole week coming up will be more of these gloomy days. That would make it more than 2 weeks of gloom.

JANE  don't blame you for not taking chances after what you went through last year, stick to your pork and sauer kraut.

LLOYD  never heard of a fruit diet to cure diabetes. Hope it work for you.

Wow only Jane and Lloyd here from last night and i even got here before Amy?

Have a good day, stay happy and healthy,

Gloria, my fingers were typing but not as fast as yours!  :2funny:

Your story reminded me of the time my friend and I went cross country skiing around 9 pm with a full moon lighting our way and fresh fallen snow.  The snow was perfect for skiing. We stopped for a break to look around at the beauty we were seeing and then my friend said. This was the last spot her son had come through on night and she was so happy that he got to see something so lovely before coming out on the other side and getting killed by a car. If I thought the night was still it sure got stiller after that!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a gloomy week here, too.  I'm not looking forward to that.

AMY, my daughter Cindy, learned to ski while she was a student at Penn State Univ.  When she decided to go when we were on a vacation at my sister's I went along and since it really didn't look that hard, I decided to rent equipment and go along.  We went up a short hill on the lift and I really enjoyed that part of it.  When we got off at the top, I followed Cindy to where the hill started.  She took off and I watched her.  Then I sat down in the snow, took off my skis and WALKED down the hill and I never tried that again!  That hill was scary!

Got things to do today and Frankie will be over later to spend the night so I have to think about supper.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  My sister Margie, will celebrate 88 years of life tomorrow!  We've bpth outlived all our previous family members.

Jane, my sister was 91 on Christmas Day.... She really is in good shape but I'm concerned that she is enjoying all the attention from her kids & that they do everything for her. She has been pampered all her life (first girl after 3 boys) and was so tiny people carried her around like a doll. She only weighed 26 lbs when she started school & such tiny feet & hands. I wasn't big but compared with her I felt like a horse (& acted like one).Happy Birthday to your sister!

It is 9° with chill index of -2°, but sun is out now so hopefully it will melt the little snow on the grass/streets fast. I had no trouble getting to church & McDonald's but stopped in my driveway to kick the big packs of snow/ice icky salt & whatever else off the car before pulling into the garage. Will be plenty to run all over the garage floor so another job... where does it end?  BUT, won't be long we'll be watching for early flowers to pop up, right?

I got less than 4 hours sleep last night (Fitbit Versa3 says) and not one minute of deep sleep so I am going to have a nice nap before doing anything else. I'm heading to the spare bedroom where NO CATS can wake me up.

Gr-son was saying in McDonald's this morning that wife's family had various family members testing positive for Covid so they have not done their Christmas gathering. His wife's father died from Covid a month ago so especially difficult time for her mother. Lots of families are grieving this year and I do think the aloneness is getting everyone down.

Gloria, sorry it is hitting your place so hard.... stay safe! Reminds me, I came in & sat down at this computer & forgot to wash my hands good first. Brain is already sleeping~~

Stir the eggnog, lift the toddy,
Happy New Year, everybody.

Here's to the bright New Year
And a fond farewell to the old;
Here's to the things that are yet to come
And to the memories that we hold.

As you slide down the banisters of life,
May the splinters never point the wrong way.

Brrrrr Good Morning,

It's 18º and feels like 3º.  When I got up, the grass and street were covered with a light snow but I think the sun has already turned most of it into ice.

Jane, I understand your walking down the ski hill!!!  I took a lesson the first time we went and immediately decided that if the Lord meant me to slide down a hill standing up He would have made my feet longer!
After we moved to the mountains of Colorado, I wore a smiley button on my parka that read "I Don't Ski" and always wanted one for the other side that read "Because I Don't Want To".

Amy, OSU won the game - just barely!  Thank goodness for field goals.  Family is probably boarding the plane to come home at this moment.

Oops - speaking of "this moment"... live video of church service is about to begin.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYFRIEND‼️

Thank you, BUBBLE for our new refreshed SS.  Appreciate all you do for us🥰

We spent a very quiet NY Eve, just the two of us.  Can not enjoy any of the TV coverage anymore.....and haven't for years😡. Couldn't one station do some Guy Lombardo for us old folks?  I am just a old fuddy duddy, I guess, but there is nothing enjoyable to watch anymore.  I do not know any of the singers.....better just leave it at that‼️🤪

We finally got some measurable snow New Years Eve.  We were going to go to Vail to be with our two oldest sons and families, but staying home was a very wise choice.

As you may have heard we had a horrible fire that burnt down nearly a thousand homes. Thankfully there is one confirmed death and 3 more assumed dead.....a miracle if that is all.  Where all of these homeless people will go is a frightening thought.  Homes are scarce in this area to begin with😩. One of our Senior Net friends reached out to me within a hour of this horrifying news, offering Bob and me a place at her home if needed.  She lives in Pennsylvania.......what a kind and thoughtful lady 🙏🙏 our Ardie Matreski is.

I want to know more about this fruit diet your doctor has you on, LLOYD??

CALLIE, we watched your Okie Cowboys yesterday and know your family must have enjoyed that game.  My dad lives not too far north of that stadium.  I sure wish I could go down and visit him.  I am getting closer to being able to soon, I hope.  I am NOT a skier .....do not like being out in the cold, do not like high places and sure don't want to go fast down a hill, unprotected......AMEN.  When we lived in Europe I always had to explain that all people from Colorado DO NOT SKI‼️

I did not see all the posts this morning before I wrote mine. 🤪

Jane, I am still chuckling at your first skiing experience🤪🤪🤪

Oh Amy, how sad the story you tell about your friend and her son.  😩😢

All of my sons and families are skiers/snowboarders. I love sitting in the lodge by the fire🥰

About time for my Bronco Game to start.  We are going to play with 7 first starters missing due to Covid.  Lost our quarterback a couple weeks ago to injuries.....like my mama always said after a loosing season... "just wait until next year"....we have been saying that for too many years now‼️😩😡

Enjoy your first Sunday of 2022.

Jenny

Denver,
I definitely agree with you about the TV fare available during the Christmas Holidays. Very few Christmas Shows were available around here.  I failed to even try for a New Years Eve selection.
We do have a selection called "Decades" which does re-runs of old shows - Odd Couple, MTM Show, Bob Newhart, Twilight Zone,  Ed Sullivan (sp),  etc.

Damn! There when my whole post again!  Not going to re-write but heading to bed. I know I need to type on Wordpad but was only going to say a few words... and then they became a blank page!

I went into detail about not realizing Decades had the oldies, Rick... and thanks for the tip. I did not find a single Christmas movie to watch this year & very disgusted.

Jenny, was explaining about my friend's son & wife that live in the mountains around Bolder.... but friend says they are far from the fires. So sad to think of how many houses burned plus the damage to the land until re-growth of the trees. Cas & I stayed in one state park that we had a shiver thinking about being trapped in case of fire. Only one way out it seemed. Be safe!

I'm going to post & hope it doesn't vanish again... frustrating for sure. Could be I am also a little short on patience right now?

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

Oh, JENNY, I'm so glad to hear that you weren't involved in that awful fire.  I pray for those that were.  Amd I'm also happy to hear that Ardith Matreskie is still around.  I wonder why she doesn't post?

Today was a "do-nothing" day.  I didn't have any plans and I didn't do anything.  Frankie decided to stay home and loaf, too.  So I really had the day to myself.  I did have to make up a shopping list for Cathy because she decided to go today and I had to put the stuff away when she got back with it but that was a minimal task and easy to do.   The only other thing I did that was of any significance was to grind coffee.  And I spilled that all over the place so I had to clean it up.

CALLIE, when Cindy got down the ski hill, she kept watching for me to show up and getting more and more worried when I didn't and when she saw me walking she ran out to meet me to make sure I hadn't fallen and hurt myself.  When I told her what I did, I thought she'd never stop laughing.  And she went home and told everyone!  And I didn't even care.  I laughed too.

Now I'm about to hit the haystack because Cooper will be arriving around 7 tomorrow.  I have some plans for the day and if I don't get started early they won't get done.  I've become very good at procrastination!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...
Chilly here at -9° not as bone chilling as it is where Patricia is though. Making phone calls and setting up appointments are one job that needs doing today. Cleaning up and chasing dust bunnies are another job that needs looking at.

Jenny, I agree with what is on tv today....not worth turning it on unless you can get the older shows. This is a little late but enjoy .

Oh, Amy, that brought tears of memories long gone. Have it playing in the background but wanted to thank you. What ever happened to GOOD music & not just people screaming?! Can't tell you how many years since hearing Sue(Sioux)CitySue.... and the words came right out of my mouth again. I can't even understand most of the words of today's music! I will check out your 2nd link now...

Many years ago don't know if 1944 or 1945, my pet chicken (Maggie) died. A big event in my life so my youngest brother stayed home from school (because I did). We made a plaster of Paris plaque with her name in alphabet soup & then he "borrowed" my sister's nail polish to paint the letters. Mother was home & sympathetic but she depended on my brother to take care of my grief. He was the one that stayed with my sister & I when Mom & Dad went to the field where a farmer gave my parents enough ground for a "victory garden". While they were gone in an evening he would make us some kind of candy or treat with whatever was in the kitchen. My 2 older brothers were in the Air Corp & Navy that last year of the war. A day of remembering "the good ole days". Sadly they were good because people cared about each other & helped any way possible.

And now off to take care of 2022.... remember when those numbers seemed like science fiction years?

GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND 🎿⛷🏂⛸🛷

AMY, you have made my day‼️ Thank you for the treat of listening to Guy Lombardo this morning.  It actually brought on some misty eyes.  When they mentioned London Ontario, I thought of Don and how much I enjoyed his Sunday radio show😢.

RICK, thank goodness we can still seek out and find some oldies but goodies ofTV shows. I recorded many Christmas Shows and could barely stand watching them.  The delete button got a good work out😡

SHIRLEY, I am listening to Guy too as I type.  Why didn't I seek this out on my own and enjoy it on NY Eve? Your brother certainly took good care of you😢

JANE, it may seem like you are talking to yourself, but I sure enjoy what you have to say🥰.

PATRICIA, your pictures you have shared certainly gives us an idea of how cold it is where you live. It has sure been cold here too this week.  We thought sure we were never going to see measurable snow in 2021, but we did.  We saw on the news that Greeley CO where our son and family have recently relocated to, had -24 New Years night.  YIKES! I sure enjoy all you share with us. Being married to a Southern Boy, I, too, had my fair share of having to try foods that I never had before!  I probably had some of those same reactions after wards also.  I have cooked  fried gizzards and the like but never any of the strange greens😩

Enjoy the start of your new week.

Good morning everyone.I get a CNA at 10:30 and did not wake till 8:30. Can you picture me with the phone waking me with the CNA downstairs waiting for me to answer and let her in? and that creep telling me to get used to it. Sure glad the other one is back.

AMY  after trying kale and a few other greens will stick to spinache-fresh or frozen by me--lettuce and cabbage and brussel sprouts, nothing else. Oh boy wish my fingers could type fast. Remember I have to look at the keys to spell right or would look like this fkpoio=-po,pry6y6, I don't think anyone would like that. What a sad ending to your friend's story.

JANE  when the day comes and we really see some sunshine I think we better have good sunglasses on or it will blind us. LOL  you and I did the same thing the first time on skies. I stood at the top of a small hill here in town and took the skis off and a future sister in law used them and I WENT DOWN THE Hill on a sled. Happy Birthday to your sister Margie. I have lived longer than anyone else in my family. I often wonder why.

SHIRLEY  my daughter weighed 7 pounds at birth, my biggest one I had she was long but tiny. At 1 year she was 25 pounds and when she started school she was 25 pounds. She had a great appetite and ate more than either of her brothers. Doctor always said she was healthy and nothing wrong. She was like me, people used to tell my Mom I needed a tonic to gain some weight.

BUBBLE  no more wrong way splinters in my life these days.

Back at last, Fran just left. Cannot read and pay attention when someone is here talking to me through a mask.

JENNY  never cared for Guy Lombrdo but he was at least 100 times better than any of the so called music they have now on New Year's Eve. Youngsters these days do not know what good music is and to us theirs if just loud noise. Did see about that fire, terrible anytime of year to lose every thing you own. Odd I always thought Ardie lived on the west coast. We did correspond for awhile back in the SN days. Like you I do not like heights and standing on those skies at the top of that hill it looked higher and steeper than it really was.

RAMMEL  I like watching the ME channel, lor of old shows there but over this past week end even that one was not good. I also like GRIT-western movies and some old Death Valley Days with the "Old Ranger" as host but that was off line all week end. Glad I had a good book to read. Last few years they start Christmas movies at Thanksgiving and by Christmas when you want to see them there in none on. I did finally try AMC to see what they had on and found they had Christmas movies the whole month but really none of the old classic ones.

JANE  I have changed my middle name to Procrastinate. Fits me better than the one I was given and always disliked. Do the still put a Godparents name in someplace when a child is Christened? Poor baby has no say in it.

AMY wow does that bring back memories. Now if he would only never try singing, his singing is what I disliked. Enjoying now while trying to finish my post. Will welcome the new year after the first link. Thank you big time.

LLOYD  who will make  and sew that jacket from the deer hide?

JENNY  I still miss Don's Sunday program with all the beautiful classic music.

Have a good rest of the day. Time to check email and still listen to some good music with singers we can listed to the words being sung. Thanks again Amy.

We also get MeTV here. My son is the TV Station expert. He likes to watch the older shows ans I'm usually a tag along.  Seems there are a few stations that carry the old shows.  What does that tell you.
I do like most of the "How to" shows, and my son is hooked on "Oak Island".
I have watched the "A Craftsman's Legacy" series and it is due to restart. It's a good show and covers all sorts of talents - canoe making, glass blowing, knitting, weaving, tool making, stained glass, etc. Very educational.  Hopefully they will have some new episodes.

Our event for the day - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psWCTYAc5M0
Expect a nice day tomorrow as the sky had a very red sunset earlier tonight. I don't think I have ever seen it redder. Too bad I didn't have a camera handy.

Good morning..

Yesterdays plans went hay wire so I won't make plans for today I will just take it as it come. Ended up taking hubby to the audiologist and his hearing aid were both set away along with the docking station. Two weeks before they will be back ! Thank goodness he has an old pair to use or it would be a shouting match :)

You're welcome for the videos...most so called music of today is screeching and not worth listening to.

Lloyd a milk cow is a twice a day milking plus feed even when you don't feel like doing it. Much easier to go to the store and buy it..no muss,no fuss and no work either.Time you and Nancy started to enjoy life, you both have worked so hard.

Jane, thank you,cookies are good!!
Rick was that a case of speed to cause that rollover? Yesterday heading to the city cars were passing us like crazy. Police were out and did have a couple pulled over but a lot more could have been ticketed.

Shhh.I am going to sneak up on some work and get it done!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

A very quick Good Morning, Everyfriend!  Cooper is already telling me it's time for a walk and my eyes have decided to have a bad morning today.  My plan is to make soup but like AMY, my plans sometimes go awry.

RICK, you reminded me of that old saying....

"Red sky in the morning,
 Sailors take warning.
 Red sky at night,
 Sailors delight!

So I hope your "red sky at night" brings you a nice day today!

I'm off to get dressed and go for a walk.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, forecaster is telling us to get our sunglasses ready. going to have sunshine at last!  I think he is right for a change. Just pulled the shade up and looked up at the sky and it is not overcast and the sky has a light early morning blue. Hooray at last a break in the gloom of winter. 14° now and the coldest this winter so far. We have not seen the sun here since before Christmas.

RAMMEL  I mostly like an old movie with a good story and the actors could really act and not get by on their looks like today. I liked the old musical /comedy movies like the original State Fair and some with Danny Kaye and Red Skelton from back in the 1940's. Never heard of "Oak Island" but I don't get all the cable channels. I watch some cooking shows wishing I could cook again.

JANE  I never pass up cookies especially home made ones and yours are always yummy. Over the years you have put many of them in the Hidey Hole.

Oh wow, just looked out and the sun is shining on the tree tops and the sky is getting bluer.

RAMMEL  I have a lot of beautiful sunset pictures my daughter sent me from Arizona. Seldom get a pretty sunset here, too many trees and buildings in the way.

LLOYD  hope you got more sleep.

AMY  I finished watching those Guy Lombardo videos last night. I had to laugh at some of those dancers staying in front of the camera and waving, they sure wanted to be seen.

JANE  I thought of that sailor rhyme with the red sky comment. to.

Better make my grocery list for the CNA, beginning to run out of a lot of things without Yvette.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning, deep minuses here in the Interior with patchy ice fog. I see that the stalled front is moving through Canada and the lower 48 states. Climate change is doing a number on us. The snow equipment from the south has reached Fairbanks or some of it. You can tell the difference as the lighting on the graders is different, as are the backup alarms. Last night they were working in the four blocks ahead of us and hope tonight sees clearing our four-block radius.

I was downtown yesterday, quickly paid some bills, and tried to get home fast—unfortunately, I had a twenty-minute wait on getting through and a forty-minute wait for a taxi before getting home. I'm not leaving until the clouds come back late next week and we begin warming again.

Rammel, I don't know if you can get the Science Channel on your TV setup, but there's a show called "How It's Made".  They show most of them on Saturday's, usually from early to late afternoon, and you can really get hooked on watching one after another.  I haven't binged it in awhile, as I had seen almost all of them quite awhile ago.  If you want to know how something is put together/made, this is the place for you! It really runs a wide spectrum of things, from how they get paper towels on the roll to building humongous machines/devices.  Fun!

Tomereader1,
We do get the Science Channel, and I do watch "How It's Made" at times. As you said, a person can get hooked on watching. Some of the shows are very interesting. We have a pretty good selection of channels to pick from. At this point in my life that's a good thing.  Gives me something interesting to do.

Not so busy in here today either.  Most of the regulars have posted but a couple of them are not around.  I hope all's well with them and they're just tired, busy or too lazy to post.

I got the soup made and it's waiting in the fridge to be canned tomorrow.  I'll have the whole morning after Frankie leaves for work.  She's spending the night here and we both contributed to supper and had a pleasant visit before and after supper.

I'm about ready to hit the haystack because she has to leave for work at 7 and I'm always up to make the coffee and get her some breakfast.  I know she likes my company and I appreciate that but I think it's also easier for her to leave early from here than it is to come out here, drop off Cooper and then leave for work.  I try to make it easier for her and I enjoy that too.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm off to bed. Just not getting any "deep" sleep with Tom in my bedroom. I hear him get up to have a drink or munch some dry food & then find his way to the litter box & back to bed. I don't get out of bed but it's like when having babies in the room right after they are born, I slept with one eye open.... but I wasn't 87 years old then!!!  ::) I feel so sorry for Tom, he acts surprised that he can't tell where he is going & now his eyes stay dilated & has that scared look all the time. He eats like a horse & is skin & bones, looks like he is starved. So sad, but it isn't about me it is about keeping him as comfortable as possible for as long as he isn't in pain.

I get most of the channels y'all are talking about, on my little antennas that thumbtack to the wall. Most of the time they are on GRIT or ME... or local stations for weather or local news. I hardly ever just sit to watch, kind of background noise but now & then something stops me & I will watch.

Hummmmmmm, had a time out, Callie had one of her rolling over shaking all over fits & managed to puncture 2 holes in my foot with her claws, drew blood. I put rubbing alcohol on the spots & then the 1% whatever the stuff is for everything... This is the 3rd time this week that I've watched her have those shaking uncontrolable movements, they don't last but a minute & she seems fine after. So far I've never been able to pick her up, she fights to get free. She's lived here for about 7 years but around since before she brought her babies to us 12-13 years ago & loves to be petted & talked to, but can't reach down to pet her with both hands, she smart enough to know someone can grab with both hands. SO, would not be easy to get her into a cage to take to a vet & it's really a problem. Much too cold to make her stay outside, although she prefers to go out when the sun is warm & she can find shelter from the wind. I will never get in this situation again, that's for sure!

I'm going to bed & hope for some sound sleep tonight. Busy day tomorrow, laundry & still those boxes to get to the basement storage. Sweet dreams & God Bless. Good night, Jane, (((hugs)))

Good Morning Everyfriend and especially you, LLOYD.  I hope the day finds you feeling better!

I have everything set up to can my soup today but I have to take Cooper for a walk first and I'm not looking forward to that!  It's only 28º out there this morning and it's only going up to 35 for the day!  I do think winter has arrived!

I better get started if I'm going to get the soup done before Frankie comes home from work or my daughter, Cathy shows up.  I slept pretty good last night.  Cooper decided to join me about an hour before my alarm went off and he just snuggled in and kept that side of me warm.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Locally 30-32 degrees and some light rain/freezing rain. Lots of accidents and falls. EMS service is backed up with some people waiting.  Drivers don't seem to understand that ice is slippery.  I don't have to go out at all but son has appointment later.  I assume it will warm a bit as the morning goes on.

Cold and rainy here, too.  I'm not going anywhere.  We actually had snow on Sunday and Monday but the ground was too warm so nothing stuck for very long and turned to rain.  We've had a lot of rain and some flooding.  Power outages occured when the wind was high but I think most of that has been fixed.  Back roads are still icy in spots.

We enjoyed the Hoppin' John I made for New Year's.  I made such a big pot of it that we are still eating leftovers.  It is a good winter weather meal.  Like a thick and hearty bean soup.

Not a lot going on here and I'd like to keep it that way for awhile.

In regard to tv shows....I cut the cord a long time ago and bought Roku.  That and, a handful of subscription streaming channels and an over-the-air antenna gives me all the shows and movies and news I could possibly want.  The only reason I keep Spectrum cable is because of Internet and Phone.  If I didn't dislike talking on a cell phone so much I wouldn't even have the Internet phone.

Take care.

Good morning everyone, the gloom is back, overcast again. Never got over 30°yesterday but the bright sunshine was much appreciated.  Might have showers today but who knows?  I don't know if I get a CNA today or not. That company is  or was the best around but lately it is terrible.  I know the covid has a lot to do with lack of CNAs but they still can do a better job of keeping clients informed.

PATRICIA  if I lived in Fairbanks I would be a hermit in the winter. I used to go out in all weather and temperatures but now I want to stay inside and warm.

JANE  this is a day when I rather be laying on the couch watching TV through closed eyelids like someone I know.

LLOYD  hope it is nothing more than a cold you have.

Better get ready for the day, might have a CNA or not, still have to get dressed.

AMY  drive careful.

PHYLLIS  like you I dislike talking on a cell phone but good to have one when Cox is down.

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy.

Good morning, minus 33 here up from our overnight low of minus 40. There are still some outages, the state's been declared a disaster area, and the National Guard has been called in for assistance. However, they're concentrating on smaller communities to the south for snow removal, avalanche controls, and using bulldozers to reach and repair power lines along roads.

Our city center has been cleared but not the outlying areas or the suburbs. They did make a narrow trail down the center of most city roads, but taxis are still unable or unwilling to travel to certain areas.

I also plan to be a couch potato until warmer temperatures and more snow melts occur. We have 2% humidity and clear skies so that might be a while.

GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND ‼️

Sun is shinning now but a storm is ah sturing and will move in later this afternoon.

My goodness, I have barely accomplished much, and you, JANE have already finished the soup you were making🤪. I bet it is delicious 😋

AMY, have the lumber prices come down at all in your area?  They keep saying they are going to, but I question it as everything else is sky high and continues to go up.

PHYLLIS, I saw on the news that you had some snow in your area.

PATRICIA, I moan about getting  out when it is cold and messy,.....shame on me!  All I have to do is go get in the car....not stand outside waiting for public transportation 😩.
We need to run a few errands before the storm moves in! So I best get a move on🤪

Enjoy your day.

For anyone curious about some southern exposure, during and after the snowstorms and rain, these two videos are from a family of Youtubers living in North Pole, a city 25 south of us. They have a more graphic view of circumstances such as cooking a meal via a small blowtorch.

I didn't go to bed yet but I'm here to say "Good Night".  I'm heading for the haystack.  Frankie is spending the night and she has to leave for work by 7 a.m. and I make coffee for her to take with her a and sometimes hard boiled eggs but not tomorrow.  She's "taking a break" from them tomorrow.

I have 7 pints of soup already canned and almost twice that much to do tomorrow.  I hope to get two canners of 8 each done tomorrow and then I'll relax until it's time to make vegetable soup with all the stuff I've collected for that.  I think my diet is going to consist of a lot of soup in the future.  It's a lot easier to eat with this messed up mouth than anything else and I like soup.

I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

It is 20° but feels like 10°, so 2 weather stations say. Bitter cold & there is a band of snow not too far (20-30 miles) moving our way. Not supposed to get much but since the snow blower is NOT where I can get to it I may not be running errands I should have done today. That's life!

Both sons came today to install or set up what they got me for Christmas. I can now tell Google to turn on the pool light even if I'm in Missouri or Colorado, how about them apples?  Youngest son set up the light that will help paint when "natural" light isn't good. I'm really pleased with both gifts. Now I have 3 cameras showing all door & can monitor them when in another state and also they are set up on #1 son's iPad so he can check up on anyone coming or going. I'm covered!

Jane, I planned to get the fixings for my friend's "Taco soup". My daughter-in-law gave me a different recipe for taco soup but I like this other one better... so good I've cleaned up all the ZipLoc tubs I froze for camping & planned to make more. On my list when I get out.

Rick, my gr-daughter & family live in Falls Church, VA, do you know where that is?  I have not looked it up on a map so not programmed into my head. I remember when different people talked about the eastern states & my mental image is "all the cities run together & I'd never find my way around". All the years we visited Cas' mother & brother in eastern TN (Kingsport)tri-city area & a mass of highways so if you didn't know which lane to be in you'd be in a different state real fast. I never drove when there.

Got to get some sleep. Fitbit keeps telling me that I am not getting ANY deep sleep & only 4-5 hours of light sleep. Poor Tom can't help waking up hungry in the middle of the night, then a drink of water & uses the litter box. I listen until he gets back in bed, at least he is able to do what he can in that room. He is lost anywhere else in the house.

Sandy, my niece took several "batches" of kids different times to foster. So sad for the kids to be passed from house to house but good for them when the foster parents really care. Looks like Fe is enjoying them.

Must get to bed. Tom wakes up about 4:00 every morning & after listening to his routine I often just get up & fix our breakfasts. Too many days this week I didn't get a nap in so I am dragging tonight. Sweet dreams & God Bless....

How many more weeks before Yvette returns, Gloria?  :-\

Good Morning!  I've read but my timer went off for my first canner full of soup and that means it needs tending.  I'll be back later!

Everybody has eaten & 3 of us (cats) back to sleep & I am heading that way. Fitbit says I had 3 hours & 53min sleep, not enough. Light snow but not deep, enough to make the streets slick. Real temp is 8° but feels like -5°below, down right chilly! I'll decide what to do when I wake up the next time. Best wishes for all to be "healthy, wealthy & wise"... but most of all, "HAPPY".

Dance is done and so am I. Thankfully everything went well.

Jane ,all that canned soup will taste good!

Patricia, is the snow getting cleaned up in your area now?

Jenny, some lumber has come down in price but not all.The 2x4's PT were around $5.00 and are now just under $10.00.

Shirley, when you get a moment could you post your taco soup please.

Sandy, beautiful children all three of them. Thank you for sharing.

Rick, roads are wet but have been sanded and I hope no more snow for today.

Another chore is beckoning to me.I have tried to ignore it but it is persistent!!

Yes, SHIRLEY, I want that Taco Soup recipe, too!

I'm finished with the Summer Squash Soup and everything is cleaned up and put away except the soup itself.  It's still sitting on the counter cooling and waiting to be labeled.  I did a cannerful and 5 extra pints today for a total of 20 pints.  That's a lot of lunches....or suppers!

AMY, we're supposed to get snow overnight tonight.  I hope it's not the kind to stick around and make for bad driving conditions in the morning.  Frankie still has to work tomorrow and I don't like that road she drives.

SANDY, your daughter must be very special to take on two MORE little ones to care for.  I think anyone who does that has to have lots of love and courage in them!

LLOYD, I hope you get to feeling better soon.  It's no fun having a headache all the time.  A cold is bad enough!

Haven't figured out what my next household chore is going to be but I have a load of towels in the washer right now and tomorrow I'll strip my bed and wash those sheets.  That's hardly a job because I just sit around while the washer and dryer run.

Daughter Christy and her husband are finally coming up to celebrate "Christmas" with us. and we're all contributing to a dinner to be at Cathy's house.  Two daughters and husbands, one son and wife and two grandchildren will be together with me for "Christmas Dinner" on Saturday night!  Who says you can't get together for a holiday?  And who says it matters when you do it?

The washer is in the spin cycle so I better get ready to throw the towels in the dryer.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone! Nothing new here except I'm now craving Taco Soup!

We broke not only the record for the most rain in a month, December! And not only for the most snow in a month but also the most snowfall in a year! ""Storms across the Interior affected many homes and businesses with wet, heavy snowfall and rain that fell over the course of a few days.

In the month of December, historic snowfalls fell across the Interior, bringing 49.7 inches of snow to Fairbanks according to the National Weather Service." The governor declared the state a disaster area and has called in the National Guard for assistance. Everyone is asked to stay home and off the road unless it's essential traffic."

So nothing new here and no plowing as yet in my area but supposedly in other areas of the city.

Wow, Patricia, lots of snow up there!

Jane, glad you are getting together this close to Christmas! Since I didn't get anything done as planned for my neighbors, I'm working on a "Christmas in July" gathering. Had one a Christmas gathering a few years ago & the ladies seemed to enjoy & this year we have so many husbands & extended family members that need to be introduced, I'm thinking inviting all to come & meet. I served enough goodies (thanks to Sam's Club) all the ladies took a napkin with some home to the hubbies. Maybe I can get organized by then!

Since I already have Bonnie's taco soup recipe on wordpad on this computer I will copy & past it in a separate post so y'all don't have to hunt. I do love it & hope you do. It's good for you, for sure!

Where's the Beef soup?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1, 2022

Bonnie's (or Shirley's)Taco Soup

1&1/2 lb gr beef (browned & drained)
1 onion chopped ( I have tried browning the onion with the beef & can't tell much difference)
1/2 (I use a whole can) cup beef broth
1 can corn undrained
1 can pinto beans undrained
1 can black beans undrained
1 can rotel (tom/gr chilis)
1 small can Hunt's tomato sauce
1 can diced tomatos
3 cups V8
pack taco seasoning (we both used William's taco seasoning)
1 T brown sugar

This soup freezes good, I love it with corn chips.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1, 2022
Post by: Shirley on January 06, 2022, 02:50:51 PM
Rotel is tomatoes with green chilies.... and there are several versions... I go for the original, just enough kick to make the soup interesting. Trust me, it would make a difference to leave it out. I think there are other brands of tomatoes with green chilies but I have never tried any other. A can of this dumped into a pound of Velvetta cheese makes a great dip when heated to bubble stage... yum. My friend also used a can when making some chicken/spaghetti after Cas come home from the hospital 30+ years ago. He thought he was doomed to no flavor foods after 3 by-passes & this had all the flavor in the world. I don't like "spicy hot" foods but this stuff is flavor & not too hot for me! I find it in the Mexican foods type aisle instead of where the canned tomatos are. Hope you can find it because it would change the recipe completely.

You know what, Jane?  I thought about mentioning that I only buy Hunt's tomatoes and thought again about y'all having home grown & can't get any better than that!!! As far as how big the batch, makes quite a bit, I never measured, but always try to get some into the freezer.

I never got out except to push the dumpster to the street. Callie went with me & came right back inside with me, tis nippy out there. Didn't bother sweeping the snow off, sun will take care of it eventually. Wind had some in the air for a while today but couldn't tell if snowing or just extra dry snow blowing from the trees. My "dozen doves", regulars that come to eat every day, stayed huddled in the tree until nearly dark. I always put extra seed on the ground for them but some will eat out of the hanging dish & kick seeds to the ground.

Got enough cat hair on this dark oak floor to make another cat. The girls had a pretty heavy coat before they came inside full time... so shedding is a must. They hate the sound of the sweeper but not sure it will be warm enough for them to be out long enough for me to clean up tomorrow. Guess it doesn't matter, nobody to see it but me!

I Googled Ro-tel...https://www.ro-tel.com/ (https://www.ro-tel.com/)  I'll delete if that doesn't work. Some good recipes.

Hello Everyfriend!  Winter is here in Central PA.  It's snowing!  And instead of laying in the grass and avoiding the roads, it's doing just the opposite!  The roads are white, roofs are white and the grass is green!  Weird!!

I'm about to hit the haystack before my eyes achieve the slam shut mode!  Once again, I saw the beginning of one Perry Mason show and the end of another!  I guess my eyes were telling me they'd been open long enough!

SHIRLEY, I'm thinking that if the roads are clear by 10 tomorrow morning, I might make a trip to WM to get my hair cut.  If I do that, I'll also pick up the stuff I need to make SHIRLEY'S TACO SOUP!

And maybe I'll pick up some cherries and biscuits to make LLOYD'S Cherry pies.  They do sound good!

Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Not a warm one out there this morning temp is 1°. Snow was all cleaned up yesterday so inside work today.

Shirley, I looked at your url and we do have them here
so will be picking a few cans up to have on hand.

Jane, you sure had a busy day with all your canning!

Lloyd, we call those hand pies or grab and go pies. Easy to eat on the run if need be.

Patricia, the bone chilling weather has landed here. I I just keep thinking one day closer to Spring.

Better get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning WOW looks like the weather guessers are right for a change. It is snowing, coming down pretty fast , maintenance man has been clearing the walkway in front and it gets covered faster than he can clean it.
all I can say is it is beautiful and wish I was out there enjoying it but those days are over. Yesterday was a mess here, CNA was here earlier than I was told she would be, was nice having this one for 4 days in a row and I have had her at times over the years.  On TV they say we have 8 inches already. Since I have turned the TV on almost half hour ago they ad said 10 inched total and now they are saying we can get 12 inches. Not bad for the first real snow for this winter.

SHIRLEY  I think about 4 more weeks and Yvette will be back. Will be great knowing the time and hours I have help. Some of the ones I had have been so bad I don't know how they can take a paycheck with a clear conscience.

LLOYD  I would get tired of cracking all those nuts and getting the meat out. I know they will be enjoyed many ways but a lot of work.

JANE  when you talked about your squash soup I thought butternut squash but it is summer squash, you found a way to get it canned and it keeps? Is that the yellow squash? Never heard of that in soup.

AMY  just looked outside again and cannot tell it had ben plowed at all. The guesser just said we have a few more hour for the snow to finish.

PATRICIA  enjoyed the 2 links you posted yesterday.

Time for breakfast getting hungry. Don't think many CNAs will be workig today. On the tube they are telling everyone to stay off the roads so plows can clear roads. No job worth getting into an accident for. How soft has the human race become that they let snow keep them home from work? Guess being in an older generation that worked and not sat at a desk all day made us tougher.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Frankie came over this morning to drop off Cooper and she was on the phone as soon as she came in the door to tell them she was going to be late for work.  She said the roads had been plowed but not yet salted and she was nervous about driving on them.  she kept checking and as soon as they said the salt trucks had gone on the highway, she left.  She texted me that she got to work safely.

GLORIA, yes the soup was made with the summer squash.  I had cleaned it, chopped it and frozen it as my neighbors donated it to me in the summer.  Now it's ready to eat.  And you're right...you can't can the squash but I found a good soup recipe with instructions for canning.

LLOYD is the "Black Walnut King" of the Midwest...maybe of the country...and maybe even the world!

I have the last piece of my bedding in the dryer and while I was putting the fitted sheed on my bed, I couldn't help thinking of my grandmother.  She was still around when fitted sheets were just coming out and I can still hear her griping about how hard they were to get on the beds and "why do they think we need them?"  Until lately, I couldn't understand what the problem was but now, I'm on her side.  They really ARE hard to get on the bed.  Nice once they're on but hard to do.  You don't think I'm getting OLD, do you!

Laundry is the only thing I have planned for today.  I was going to try to make a trip to WM for a haircut and I haven't completely given up that idea but I can hear my daughter, Cathy.  "She doesn't drive for 2 months and then she decides to drive in the snow!"

Oh well!  That's life!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

If you hunt around you can find some with more elastic at the corners, or deeper pockets.  We had some that were all but impossible to get on. But I have some now that go on easily. The last set came from Amazon.

Thanks for the suggestion, RICK, but I have so many sheets now, I can't justify the expense of buying more.  And the problem is my new mattress.  It's thicker than the old one and maybe that's why they're making sheet with a bigger pocket now.  When I need new sheet, I'll remember your advice.

He sure is a cutie!

AMY, My grandmother used to make Chicken and dumplings and it was nothing like potpie.  Good but totally different.  The dumplings were (I think) a mixture of flour and water and when they were dropped in the chicken broth, they swelled up in a puff.  Potpie stays flat!

What a cutie-pie.  Love the jammies!

Sandy, so sorry to learn about the possible Covid. Take care.

#2 son who had Covid before Christmas had a check-up earlier this week.  His chest was clear and all blood work normal!  Guess that mono...(whatever it is) infusion worked.

Don't think I've mentioned here that grandson Carson's best friend and housemate during college died of Covid last weekend.  Friend still lived in Stillwater and was apparently recuperating alone at home. His girlfriend and girl Carson had dated discovered him.
Carson hadn't seen his friend over Christmas but friend had gone to Texas the week before and they went to the Big 12 Championship football game.
Fortunately, Carson's bosses have been very understanding.  He is now here with his parents (working from his company laptop) until the services next Tuesday.
Losing your best friend is hard at any age but when you're 24 and just out of college, it's extremely traumatic.

I have a good recipe for vegetable soup using a big can of V-8 juice.  Usually make that pie filling/cakemix Dump Cake to go with it.  Good wintertime supper.

For those who remember Shirley Navarro, whose onsite name is shirleyn, from SeniorNet and Norm's B&T, Marilyne posted this today,

I heard some bad news from one of our long time members, Shirley Navarro, whose screen name here in S&F is shirleyn.    She was one of the original posters in the Michigan folder, starting back in Senior Net.   Then she continued posting here when it became Norm's Bait and Tackle.   She was diagnosed with lymphoma, a couple of years ago - was treated successfully and was in remission for a long time.  It has returned, and has now spread to her brain.   She has been told that it is terminal.   She asked me to mention it here in Bait & Tackle, for those who were friends with her or who remember her.   I will update any information if I hear from her again.

I spent a couple hours going back & forth at the grocery store. So many empty shelves & cases. I did have a grin at the jars of Vlasic Zesty bread & butter pickles, not packed in neatly like other years, guessing maybe a lot of "new hires". Suppose they do have trouble keeping the factories going with so many out with Covid. I don't usually buy canned soups but stocked up today, good sale & figured it would give me something to eat when "nothing sounds good". Shopping wore me out.

When I made chicken & dumplins for my family I used Bisquick or Jiffi Mix & everyone loved 'em. Been a long time since I fixed them, sounds good.

Sandy, sincere wishes that everyone comes thru Covid without side effects and maybe like me, has the antibodies a year+ later. I'm feeling very lucky but still doing all I can to stear clear of germs; masks, sanitizing & distancing.

So sorry to read the bad news about shirleyn.... she was one of the reasons I became Tisie back in the old days, already had a few Shirleys registered! Thanks for sharing the news, Patricia & Marilyne.... not what we like to hear but ready with prayers when needed.

Extra prayers for my Cyber Family! Sweet dreams & God Bless....

Hello Everyfriend!  My family arrived and we've had a very nice visit.  Lots of laughs!  I'm on my way to be and there will be prayers for everyone who needs them.

AMY, I've never heard potpie referred to as dumplings but when you describe them it does sound like potpie.  We roll ours kind of the thickness of pie crust and cut it in squares and drop it into the broth as it's on a low boil.

I've got to go to bed now.  I'm past the slam shut mode and everyone else has retired.  Don't know if I'll be in tomorrow at all but I'll be thinking of all of you and your families and saying prayers when I do!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning "Jane" and anyone else who shows up today.  I'm first up and having my coffee while I wait for everyone else to wake up!  Don't know if I'll have a chance to come back later so......

AMY, I finally had a chance to look at the "potpie" recipe you posted and it does sound similar.  The only difference is that we don't use buttermilk, and we roll out the dough with a rolling pin to about the thickness of pie crust.  I do use a pizza cutter to cut it and it sure beats the knife my grandfather and my mother used to use.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

Geemogotchee day out there with a temp of -10°. Not as cold as Patricia but I don't think laundry will be hung out today.

This new variant omicron seems to have running shoes on and is spreading fast! We are scaled back to closures and limited capacity again.

Callie ,thank you for posting both recipes. Will give them a try and soon.

Jane, have a great time with your family. I thought it sounded like your pot pie but have no idea of why it is called dumpling.

Patricia, our weather is getting to be like yours for temp. Sure hope it finds it way back up and soon.

Gloria, not fit for man nor beast out there this morning. No new snow here. The snow would crunch underfoot if one wanted to go walking in it.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Maybe it's the moon some of us aren't getting the sleep we need......you think, Gloria? I was awake at 3:30 because of Tom but didn't get up until around 4:15. We had an early breakfast & all went back to sleep, Tom got me up an hour & half later. He is miserable not being able to see so thinks he has to eat all the time. Could be the wind woke him up, it is howling & anything that can blow or bend is doing so. Warmer than yesterday, computer says 47° but TV said feels like 40°. I think the warm up is only for today so got outside things to do, plus go back to the store to see if they got the things in I couldn't find yesterday. I know I will need a nap today.

Amy, you reminded me of when we lived in England one of the neighbors would love hanging the wash out to freeze, said it make "whites whiter".  Sounds pretty nippy where you are. Seems like we just had fall but I'm thinking spring & planting all kinds of lettuce, the whole trug full. That was so good, tender & tasty, a tad o sugar & vinegar, salt & pepper & then the bacon bits & hot grease. I could make a meal with that!

Jane, enjoy the family & tell them "HI" from Kansas!

Callie, few years back my next door neighbor called to say their only child had died overnight, same age as my gr-daughter (in their 20s). An aneurysm. Was long before Covid so the funeral/church was packed. So hard to believe someone that finished all their studies could leave this world before having a chance to really live. I hope Carson can find the good in such a loss, we have to, I believe. I was a Pollyanna before there was one.

I was going to take some food down to the river, the seagulls were floating around while ago but right now I don't see any birds moving, wind too strong? The bare trees are wagging like you can't imagine!

Good morning everyone, was rudely awakened again. This time my Life Line woke me calling my phone. By the time I got out of bed and put the light on to see where I was going it hung up Ok so went back to bed, just about asleep and could hear someone unlocking my door and that scared me. A man's voice called out "rescue"  When I did not answer them they called the ambulance and here it is the rescue from the fire department about a mile away. The man and woman asked questions and had to make sure I was OK. Heck I was standing there barefoot and in my nightgown holding onto the rollator. Should have said no -not OK standing here shivering and with bare feet. They finally left and back into bed. Phone rang again. Just what I hoped did not happen. It was my son that lives a few miles from me. His name is on their to call in an emergency. He was calling from downstairs to let him in. By then it was after 2 am. Now I am wide awake and frustrated. I will call them today and cancel that company. That mas said they told him when they called that they kept getting too many calls from it and it needed to be checked. Heck it was sitting on my rollator, cannot sleep with it around my neck.I was sound asleep when all this started, a ghost in here pushing the button? Now after being awake so long I was getting hungry so had a cup of hot cocoa and 2 slices of toast buttered and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. After it digests I might be able to go back to bed. Later I will go online and look up other life lines, the one I have I got in March, never wanted one but after what happened last year in February I thought I should have one. Kept getting adds for this one and now I know why.

AMY  think the snow would have crunched here yesterday, too. Even cold again this morning.

SHIRLEY  I was always a good sleeper, seldom had a sleepless night but the last few months have been terrible. Not used to this lack of sleep. Only in the low 20's here yesterday and 16°now at 3:30am. I wish I could hand clothes out to dry, I  used to all winter in the freezing temperatures and we do have lines up in the back of ths building but I would not be able to reach the lines anymore and the clothes would never be dry for the CNA to bring them in.

Goodness cannot find anymore new posts since Shirley's yesterday. Think I will try sleeping again. If i don't get back later
HAVE A GOOD DAY, STAY HAPPY AND HEALTHY.

Good morning..

Thank you for getting us back up and running. I bet a lot of us got a lot of housework done while the site was down. :2funny:

Better temp this morning starting off at 30°
Picking up planer blades this morning at Canadian Tire ,then to the grocery store for a few items and home.

Shirley we were up at 3:45 ,one of the fire alarms was chirping (low battery) and it scares Babe. Found the one that was making the noise and will put a new battery in it.I did manage to go back to bed for some sleep but a nap may be found later in the day.

Gloria, you know your life line works  ;D  Trying to convince SIL to get one but so far she won't. She lives alone and really should have one.

Jane, a new day full of wonderful memories from yesterday for you.

Better get a hitch in my get along...

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

A good Sunday HELLO TO EVERYFRIEND

Runnng behind as always.  This past week we had out hot water heater burst. Water valve failed to the hw heater so Bob had to shut all water off to the house.  Called many places to get a plumber to come replace it, and finally got one, so waterless for only 24 hours. Frightening amount of money to get a new one installed 🤪

I had a house cleaner come Friday as we were so far behind in getting some cleaning jobs done.  She was nice and did a pretty good job.  No one cleans your home the way YOU do, but I was thankful to have her here.

Yesterday Callie contacted me as she was unable to get in here....I tried and found I could not either!  No mention of it, so it must have not been out for too long of time.

SANDY, many comments about your cute baby boy, but there is no picture to see.  Sure hope I can find it somewhere.  Hope the Covid proves to not be too serious for the family.

Heartbreaking news about Shirley Navarro. I communicate with her on Facebook occasionally, but sadly I had not heard this news. 😩😢🙏

AMY, I plan to use your theory when I moan about the cold weather..."one day closer to spring"‼️ EDIT:  I see you did mention the outage😘. BTW, what are planer blades?

We are helping out with grands for the next 2 weeks as dad has to travel with his job.  He will be home on the weekend.  Then the next week we are going to take care of the little guy for two nights and three days. Biggest issue the first two weeks is getting up early to wake them and get them fed and to the bus when it is still dark outside🤪🤪. They are all self sufficient so I am sure we will do just fine🥰🥰

GLORIA, what a awful night you had with your Life Line going off and calling rescue'ers to your home.....especially since it involved your son😩Sure glad it was a false report and you are fine.

We had thick fog out this morning and it has finally burned off.

Enjoy your day.

Jenny

THAT DOES IT.... HAD A LONG-LONG POST READY & WAS JUST THINKING & IT DISAPPEARED. I didn't do a thing, it just vanished. I have not found a way to just "go back" when this happens...  I am angry! Not going to try to do it over but will start keeping my wordpad minimized to type on next time, like I used to do. Not sure why this computer is jumping around like this... such as just now the curser jumped back a whole line. WHY? Is it Windows 10 (I've never liked it) or what?
Time is up, need to get ready for son & wife to stop by. I stopped in the middle of running the sweeper to see if we were back on again.

Thank you Oldesmann (Michael, right?)....

Glad to "see" everyone again.  :hello:

Still too cold to be out ( wouldn't have anywhere to go, anyway so I'm being a Recliner Radish and :study:

Just found a new folder titled "Gateway Error" that tells about outage.  Michael fixed it - as usual!   Thank you, Michael!!!!

I've been washing my Christmas things and packing them away.  I had to keep them out until Christy and her hubby, made it up here to celebrate Christmas with us.  Now I have most of it washed, folded and occupying my bed so I have to get it put away today or stay up all night.

I just sat down here for little rest and discovered we were back.  I really missed all of you.  Before they left, Christy went out to start my car and the battery is dead.  So I'm on my son's list for "sometime this week".  He'll either stop by to get me started or he'll send over one of the guys who works for him.

SHIRLEY, I have all the stuff for the Taco Soup and they got me double of everything when they went to the store yesterday.  And I checked on line and it can be canned so I will be making a double batch and canning some.  I KNOW I'm going to LOVE it!  And I think my SIL is interested also.  He wants a jar to try when I get it made.  And he's also a canner.  They work together or he does it alone while Christy is at work.  He's already retired and she's retiring this coming summer....I think.  Can't believe I'm still around to see my kids retire!

I guess I better get back to work.  It sounds like the dryer quit and that means more Christmas stuff to fold and put away.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Noon and finally got back into the site after two days. With Covid raging (Wednesday and Thursday past), saw 1000 new cases in 48 hours... plus most of December's snow is still sitting where it fell (They collected only where necessary, leaving narrow lanes in roads and highways), so I spent my time on email and Youtube.

My sister emailed a couple of days ago; my niece and her husband caught Covid from a friend. They both were in the hospital, but he quickly was sent home while she was still there with Covid and now pneumonia. Idaho is another place inundated with Covid. I don't understand how some people care nothing for their fellow humans.

We've had minus thirty to minus forty since Thursday evening, but they say next week will warm up. I need to get out there, even if it's only to walk around one of the parking lots!

Phyllis, how are you doing?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1, 2022
Post by: Shirley on January 09, 2022, 09:23:53 PM
I've been in a snit ever since losing that post earlier today.... and knowing it was MY fault for not typing on WordPad.  Anyway, going to bed soon but need to eat since I skipped doing that at a normal time.

Gloria, I remember what I was smiling about... your wild night!  This far away I can giggle at all that happened, got to admit, it couldn't have gone much wronger.  But you came up with my favorite remedy for calming down, hot cocoa & cinnamon/sugar (lots of butter) toast.  I even bought a toaster oven mainly because I love to pop that toast under the broiler to bubble the sugar & cinnamon & don't like to do it with the big oven.

Jenny, the hair stood up on the back of my head with your tale of the hot water heater.  Just recently I noticed the date on mine & it is over 10 years old.  With the hard water in this area we never had a hot water heater last but about 7 years so I know I should bite the bullet & go ahead & get a plumber out to replace BEFORE I have another water mess in the basement.  When my sink stopped up a couple weeks ago I called plumbers but they couldn't come for about 4 or 5 days & that didn't work so Andy came & fixed my problem. I paid him what the plumber would have charged (he protested but I threatened to NOT call him next time I'm in trouble). Glad you can help the kids while their dad is gone, will give them a secure feeling that they do have another home "just in case".

Jane, hope you like that taco soup... and I was mistaken about the brand of taco seasoning I use.... it is Williams & not Taco Bell.  I use Williams for chili as well. I bought some when at the store this week & surprised myself as I automatically picked up the taco pack I always buy! I forgot to buy the taco chips so will be making another trip to the store before I make mine.

Amy, I went crazy one night with a smoke alarm chirping... turned out there is/WAS one just below one in the hall to the bedrooms. I got out my ladder & put in a new battery (middle of the night) in the hall & it started chirping as soon as I got back in bed. Went back into the hall but sound wasn't coming from that stinking little round thing so looked all around & finally went downstairs & discovered one at the ceiling so was right under my feet as I kept listening .... It now lays on a table down there & does NOT have a battery in it.

Callie, we've had some bitter cold winds but looks like this week will be in the 50s & that could cause a problem. My friend said her Bradford pear tree has fat buds on already!  It was so cold early this morning I had on my heaviest coat with hood & a ski head band under that & nearly froze getting into church from the parking lot. The actual temperature wasn't so bad but the wind felt like I had summer clothes & no coat on. The birds are sure hungry. Had to laugh, CallieCat was laying out front & I had just filled the bird feeder so a squirrel was in the tree waiting to get his share first ONLY... Callie was sleeping near by & didn't even notice the squirrel. Cat & squirrel stayed like that for over an hour, squirrel kept twitching it's tail in frustration. (Doesn't take much to entertain me.  ;)

Got to grab a bite to eat & go to bed. This on the wordpad is also jumping from line to line & once since starting the whole thing vanished & it was minimized to the bottom... & while typing that line the curser jumped 2 lines back.  Any suggestions, anyone?   Shoot the computer or float it down river?

Hope to see y'all tomorrow (as Lloyd says).... sweet dreams and God Bless.

I'm on my way to the haystack.  My eyes have already entered slam shut mode and I can hardly keep them open.  My bed is cleared off and ready to receive me so all's well.  Cooper will be joining me tomorrow morning at 7 so I have to be wide awake and ready.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

The day is starting off chilly here with a temp of 5°. Busy morning  then coast this afternoon. Taking Kyle in for an appointment and will pick up his planer blades this morning. He looked for them yesterday but didn't find them . I looked for them on line and yes the store does have them ,even gave the isle they were on. I was going to pick up 1/2 pint jars to can more mushrooms but when I checked for prices they are about 3.00 more a case here!! So mushroom soup will be made today and I will pick up jars when we go to the city. I noticed all jars were up in price!

Jenny Kyle uses a planer to make rough lumber smooth. Blades do last a long time and it has been a while since they were replaced.  This will give you a better idea.

Better get a wiggle on and get ready for town.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

A WINTER FRIEND

> This article is so befitting for all of us... take time to ponder... the
last statement printed in red cannot be refuted:
  READ SLOWLY!
 AND THEN IT IS WINTER
You know time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the
passing years.  It seems like yesterday that I was young, just married, and
embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons
ago, and I wonder where all those years went.

I know that I lived them all.  I have glimpses of how it was back then and
of all my hopes and dreams.      But, here it is... the winter of my life,
and it catches me by surprise... How did I get here so fast? Where did the
years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people
through the years and thinking that those "older people" were years away
from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or
imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey... they move
slower and I see an older person in myself now.  Some are in better and
some worse shape than me... but, I see the great change... Not like the
ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age
is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see
 and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the
day!  And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory!  Cause if
I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so... now I enter this new season of my life unprepared for all the
>aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things
that I wish I had done but never did!!  But, at least I know, that though
the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last... this I
know, that when it's over on this earth... it's over.  A new adventure
 will begin!

Yes, I have regrets.  There are things I wish I hadn't done... things I
should have done, but indeed, there are also many things I'm happy to have
done.  It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not in your winter yet... let me remind you, that it will be
here faster than you think.  So, whatever you would like to accomplish in
your life, please do it quickly!  Don't put things off too long!!  Life
goes by quickly.  So, do what you can TODAY, as you can never be sure
whether this is your winter or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life... so,
LIVE FOR TODAY and say all the things that you want your loved ones to
remember.. and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things
that you have done for them in all the years past!!

The most important thing we need to do is meet and accept Jesus Christ> into our life as our Lord and saviour.
"Life" is a GIFT to you.  The way you live your life is your gift to those
who come after.  Make it a fantastic one.

Remember:    "It is Health that is real Wealth and not pieces of gold and
 silver."

~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good.. coming home is even better!

~You forget names... but it's OK, because other people forgot they even
 knew you!!!

~You realize you're never going to be perfect at everything.... especially
 golf.

~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you
really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.

~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's
 called "pre-sleep."

~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF"
 switch..

~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"...???

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

 ~Everybody whispers.>
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never
 wear.
~But "Old" is good in some things:
 Old Songs, Old movies ...
and best of all, our dear ...OLD FRIENDS!!

 Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!"
Just get started
        and
Keep on Keepin' on
You Can Do This
if you  really want to..

I liked this one, Amy.  Sometimes I feel like I'm the only OLD person left in the world.  I live on a street where there are young children playing in the yards and new babies are being born to young and active parents and I realize that I am the oldest person in the neighborhood by a lot of years.  How did that happen? It's reassuring to know that I am not really the oldest woman on Earth and that others have the same problems and feelings that I have.  Thanks for posting it.

Cold and breezy and cloudy here.  I'm waiting for the sun to come out later today.

Take care, All.

Oh, Jane, I hope you have some taco chips. I have to go to the store first, before I make mine! And isn't it great to realize you are getting a balanced diet with that one soup.

The sun is bright but still nippy out. I went out to open the gate to the pool area so Callie doesn't have to climb the fence & two of the neighbor's chickens took off. They have almost become regulars & we don't know if they fly over or have a hole in the fence we haven't discovered. I don't care if they want to come eat my bugs but not anxious for them to leave their little "gifts" on the grass carpet around the pool.  ::)  The cats ignore them but I am concerned that they will cross over my berm into the pitbull's yard on the other side.

Poor Tom is hanging on, he got me up before 4:00 am, wanting something other than the bowl of dry food. I brought him into (followed so he could hear my voice) the kitchen where Tiger & Callie slept and fed them a heaping T of tuna & made myself an egg sandwich & we all went back to bed for a little over an hour. Tom isn't safe to let outside at this stage, he loses his bearings & goes in circles.

Amy, I loved the article, exactly what I preach to my kids all the time. My brother used a planer a lot. He had quite a lot of land with a creek (haha, creek was wider than the Arkansas River behind my house). Trees would fload down the river, nice ones, walnut, oak, etc... so he would let them dry out on his landings & then saw them up & plane them smooth. He started doing this when he took me to one of his friends that had walnut slabs about 2" thick that I bought to have bases cut for sculptures. I paid $75. for the small one & $150 for a larger board, they were small enough to fit inside my van to bring home. Then paid a man here to cut them the sizes I wanted, planed, sanded & varnished & so far I've donated 2 pieces for charity autions that each brought well over $100, & a larger base I put under a Father Christmas I sculpted & gave to my daughter.... Can't say I made any money on those deals~~ I quit doing the art shows when I started sculpting and since then quit sculpting. Got busy taking care of OLD people (Cas & myself).

Phyllis, I still have one neighbor my age but don't see her often. We've lost touch with Covid. Two of the ladies my age have moved into retirement places but still own their homes. I hope to have a Christmas in July "tea" for the close neighbors. We'll see how Covid is then. I have not been down "Back Bay Blvd" since the leaves are all gone. They put a roundabout at the end of the park across the river, before it turns into downtown Wichita.

Lloyd, hope your sore throat gets better soon. Don't take any chances. I have good luck with gargling with hot salt water, just keep a mug full & pop it into the microwave to heat every hour or so & clears me up fast.

haha, Amy, I see you agree with the salt water gargle! I'll bet Nancy says the same. For sure my father indulged/prefered Lloyd's remedy!

SHIRLEY, I just took 8 pints of SHIRLEY'S TACO SOUP out of the canner to cool and the canner is heating up to do the rest of it.  I don't think it will be a full canner but we'll see.  And I had a nice bowl for my lunch.  I tasted it and it was goooooo-oood!  But I'm someone who likes my Mexican style food a bit on the hot side so I sprinkled a little "SuckleBusters Texas Gunpowder" and it was just what it needed (for me).  I was going to add some to the rest of the soup but decided to use it as I eat it because everyone I feed doesn't like hot stuff.  Frankie does but her mother doesn't!

I'm going to enjoy this for the rest of the winter!  Thanks for that recipe!

Now I'm going to try LLOYD'S fried pies.  I'm doing them with cherries because I have cherries canned and ready to go.  And I'm going to do them in the oven instead of frying them because Nancy said that's better for us!

It's sunshiny here but still cold.  It only got up to 27º and that's cold for this area.  We do sometimes get down in the low to mid teens and we've had days below 0 in years past but that was back when I was young enough not to mind.  I'll be looking forward to Spring!  Just like all the rest of you!  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Good morning from an Interior that has warmed up from a week of minuses to a week or two of pluses. Of course, that means we have another snow advisory, blowing snow and wind chills. That must be the meaning of what is happening outside my window today.

A large grader with military markings has a small fleet of seven city dump trucks following it as it scrapes its way along the street. It's a coordinated action as when the dump truck fills and leaves; another one moves up on the left. Of course, the four feet or so of filled sidewalks remain.

Wednesday, management will clear our parking lots and hopefully our sidewalks. Taxis, mail, and delivery trucks have issued a ban on entering our parking lots, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with it...

This year's paradox is that it both slammed the record books in Interior's snow amount and climate changes.

Tomorrow, I'll be going outside for the first since the third as the unnecessary travel ban has lifted.

The grader returned to clear our side's sidewalk off, putting the snow back in the center of the street. Does this mean the grader will return with its fleet of dump trucks? Stay tuned for what's next in this riveting drama!  ::)

Yearly snow averages;  "In December, for instance, one in four years totals over 13.5 inches of snow. Another 25 percent of years receive less than 6.2 inches for the month. Similarly, in January, fresh snowfall in the heaviest years amounts to 11.5 inches or more, while the lightest years get less than 4.6 inches."  December 2021 saw an 89% increase in the historical average in charted snowfall.

Amy, I've been practicing deep breathing techniques so I've got this covered... :2funny:

Edit: Grader and trucks are back. Now, whatever will I do for entertainment next?

Hey, Jane, I had to have a nap I could remember the name of the stuff Cas added to a lot of my recipes because "he liked it HOT"... name is Tabasco sauce!!!  I thought my tongue would fall off when I tried it ONCE.  I do add the fresh cilantro salsa I buy at Sam's Club to mine sometimes, when I go to heat a bowl. I also add that to my chili at times. Just enough kick for me.

It is almost dark, too dark to walk to the river. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow so I may wash the grime off my car. I can't get in without getting myself dirty (short legs). I was disappointed that the dealer I bought this one from doesn't vac the inside when they wash the car after an oil change.  Besides, they don't chamois it off, either. Not all Buick dealers are the same.  ::)  Had a 7 year warranty on the last one & only 3 years on this, won't be buying a car from this one again. Basically the same cars with all bells & whistles (that I never learned to use but helps with trade in value). I do not like all the new bells & whistles Buick came up with in those 7 years! Enough whining.

Patricia, I watch the birds & squirrels (& now the neighbor's chickens) from my windows. My son & wife gave me a gel floor mat for my birthday, I was surprised & pleased when they brought it over yesterday since they will be gone to DisneyWorld for my birthday. Their daughter & family plus son-in-law's parents are all going at same time so they can share the 2 grands. Both sets of grandparents babysit & take to school/preschool those little ones since the day they were born. Not many kids have it so lucky. I do spend a lot of time leaning on the counter top at the sink, watching the world from that front window. The chickens come to the back yard so I see them when sitting at this computer. Your snow is beautiful, I can still appreciate even if I'm not crazy about cleaning it off this year.

Oops, forgot & am typing on the post instead of Wordpad. Better post before it vanishes!

Shirley, I have three windows that all look down on the backside of the building and an old mix of older homes and even older industrial areas. Those on the other side look out at the central park and city buildings. Since they took out all the trees, the only nonavian wildlife I see are occasional dogs in the building's dog park below.

I can see portions of the river if I look, squint further west, but that's it. The river is a block away, or at least the main loop is. I would love a better river view, or of chickens, and animal life. Many of my friends live in the ridges and foothills and see wildlife daily, wolves, foxes, eagles, hawks, etc. They also have yards that may measure in acres. I am so jealous and take hundreds of drool-worthy photos every time I'm out there.

Unfortunately, they're at the age where they and their children are starting to talk about selling out and moving into town. It's the same feeling I have about no longer being able to take my camera and visit the wildlife refuge and sanctuary.

OK, I ended up with 16 pints of SHIRLEY'S TACO SOUP one of which will be gone tomorrow because Frankie wants to try it when she picks up Cooper tomorrow.  I have a feeling it's not going to last very long.  It's way too good.

I have all my Christmas decorations down and put away for another year.  I had to leave them up until Christy and her husband made it up here to celebrate with us!  And now (except for the plants) I'm back in the normal groove.

My eyes have already entered slam shut mode so I'm off to bed.  I didn't get LLOYD'S fried pies done today so that's a job for tomorrow.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Ra Dr. phoned yesterday and has given him a new med plus upped  another. Not sure how the rest of the day will go but will know by tonight.

Jane, I need to pick up some of the items for Shirley's soup and then I am good to go. Made mushroom soup yesterday and will use that up first.

Lloyd, hope you are feeling better this morning.

Phyllis, I think we all feel that way at times. Sometimes this body works well and other times it feel older than dirt. One foot ahead of the other and we do get to where we are going.

Yikes  9° here and feels like minus-6°. First time in 4 years it has been that cold here. So happy I do not have to go out today. Guess I have become soft since I retired and stay inside when it is too cold or too hot these days. In my working years I went to work every day no matter what the weather was.

JANE  looks like you are happy with that soup. I think I am too much a Yankee to ever get a taste for Mexican food. Every time I went to San Diego my daughters would take me somewhere to try some but never cared for it. My SIL will not eat any of it. He says he lives north of that border so will eat the food from that area.

PATRICIA  you really do not get much snow there. Some years here we do not see bare ground till March after the first snow fall.

SHIRLEY  I see cars and the parking lot and trees when I look out and maybe someone walking to their car or coe in from their cars. There is a black cat that wonders around.

AMY  it is a geemagotchee day here, too. not as cold where you are but the coldest in almost 4 years here.

Better go get dressed, CNA will be here at 9 this morning. I sure do not like having to hurry and do anything in the mornings anymore.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Bright and sunny here but a little too cold for this body to enjoy.  ;D It will supposedly get up to 41 deg. today.  I realize that doesn't sound cold to some of you but it is cold enough to me.  I'm  grateful for a nice warm house.

I'll get a delivery from Papa Spuds today so I must make sure there is room in the fridge for everything.  And, that plus a little household laundry pretty much sums up my day's activity.

Take care, All.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm late getting in here because I had some things nagging at me to get done.  I got them all done and there's already something else raising it's head to begin nagging.  Where do they all hide?

PHYLLIS,  I'm going to have to look up Papa Spuds.  I've never heard of it.  Is it some kind of dinner plan?  There are so many of them around these days!

Our temp has made it all the way up to 16º from a low of 10 when I got out of bed this morning.  I'm ready for Spring.  I hope February 2nd is not a sunny day and Punxatawney Phil doesn't see his shadow and go running back into his hole for another 6 weeks!

I have to get busy and get some stuff done.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, we are up to -12° now and a nice sunny day out there. Just fed the birds and now they too can have a tummy full.

Good morning, everyone, Amy; I hope your day goes better, minus two this morning with a high expected of plus ten and with one to two inches of snow this afternoon and evening. Our street and sidewalks are plowed. The opposite side's sidewalk is full of snow in something of an enigma.

There's nothing on the agenda today except for general chores and perhaps some laundry if I have time. I have to check in with my sister to see how my niece is doing, and that's about it for today.

I noticed Rick has been missing so I sent him e-mail threatening I'd track him down like we did with Lloyd, he still didn't answer so I called him tonight & got his son (Ricky). Rick is in the hospital with a problem he has had before so they do the IV drip of antibiotics & he hopes to be home in 2 or 3 days. He does NOT have Covid (but hospitals can give it to you, right?) Anyway, say a prayer, anyone in the hospital can use them. His son sounds like a really sweet kid (okay, anyone under 75 is a kid, right?)

I'm heading off to bed as soon as Callie comes back inside. She is loving the warmer weather so spent most of the day out, came in several times to eat & right back out. Poor Tom, he went out in the pool area for a little while & even managed to walk to the other side when Callie & I went down to the river. Tom isn't up to the walk anymore & was happy to come back inside & go back to the only room where he knows his way around. He gets up every couple hours to eat some dry food, have a drink & find the litter box, so I listen to make sure he is back in bed before I go back to sleep. Today I didn't get a nap to make up for the lack of zzzzzzzzzzs last night so I am staggering & starting to snore before I get to bed. Tiger is watching all the goings on but mostly stays inside. She has the run of the house upstairs & down but is missing some of the attention she used to get before Tom got so sick & blind.

While we're on the record for missing people, has anyone seen a post from Jackie lately?  I know my mind/brain has been "fractured" with holidays & Tom needing attention, but I haven't seen a post from Jackie for quite a while.

I'm off to bed, sweet dreams to all and God Bless!

I'm pretty sure I saw Jackie over in the word games but I can't say for sure.  I'll check that out after I finish here.

I'm just about to hit the hay and I hope it's full of zzzzs because I'm really tired and my eyes have already let me down.  They entered slam shut mode while I was trying to watch TV.  Now I'm going to let them do their thing.

I wish all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Sorry I'm so slow to answer you, Jane.  I really wasn't ignoring you.

Papa Spuds is what is called a "Farm to Fork" operation that is local to my NC county.  I pay a subscription for a $26 box filled with vegs., bread, honey, fruits, cheeses, and lots more from LOCAL farms, dairies, bakeries, beekeepers, and much more.  The things are always in perfect condition and very tasty.  I only get a box every other week and it is delivered right to my door.  It is perhaps a little more expensive than grocery store shopping but the produce is fresh picked, always in good condition, and is delivered right to my side porch.  It helps the farmers, it gives jobs to delivery people and other workers, and I have really fresh NC products delivered without having to go to the store and sometimes having to settle for not-so-fresh fruits and vegs. that were picked several days ago and shipped cross-country.  I got some beautiful things yesterday...even some artisan bread baked at a local bakery that is soooooo good.  I used some of the beautiful scallions that came in the box for Cheesy-Potato soup last night.  Here is a link:  http://papaspuds.com/index.php

I imagine PA has something like it in your area.  If you are interested you can try a Google Search for your area for a "farm to fork" business.

Good morning everyone,I know I am pretty late getting here but still messed up from that rude midnight wake up. This morning was woken with a phone call from that company telling we the life line was not working and to check it out and make sure it is charged. Of course it wasn't working I unplugged the whole thing, That call this morning was another animated one. Cannot even reply to them.  Warming up, going up to 30 later. It is bright and sunny but I am cold.  CNA is here already, another messed up day. gotta go, laundry day, have to go strip the bed. At times I thinks they do not know how to anything themselves.

Well, I'm a "stay-at-home" old lady for a while now.  I have a 25 year old VW Golf sitting in my driveway.  Since Sunday (at least) the battery has been dead and my son came and started it this morning.  I kept it running for 45 minutes with a couple trips around the circle.  Then I let it sit for an hour and tried it again.  It worked but I didn't trust it so I just tried it again.  It's DEAD!  My husband used to say, "We should just push this junker over the riverbank".  Today, I understand that statement.  I just wish cars weren't so necessary out here in the country.  If I could, I'd walk!

PHYLLIS, I did look up your Papa Spuds and I like it.  That's the kind of stuff I get at Davy's, our local Mennonite store.  Everything is so fresh and so ready to eat and so tasty.  It beats the supermarkets by a mile!

Now I have to do something that will give me feeling of accomplishment since the dead car doesn't.  I have a lot of recycling to take up there on the 22nd.  I need to work that out.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  And better than mine has started out!

Jane, a new battery may be in order for you...easy fix.

I have been on the phone talking with pharmacy, Dr and getting Kyle an appointment for an ulta sound. Got to listen to some nice music, got to tolerate some not so nice music but really enjoyed talking to the nicest people that did answer my calls.
Have bread on the rise and will soon put that in the oven then see what other mischief I can get into.

Good morning, plus eight presently and heading for a high of fifteen. They're, management, presently plowing our front and side parking lots while snow blowing the sidewalks. The city never did return to clean across the street from us. Someone said they may have only done that sidewalk on our side because we're a state-owned building. I don't know if I believe that, but that side of the street remains unplowed.

Amy, my niece, is home with her husband, recovering with an inhaler and antibiotics. Her husband seemed to have a worse case but ended up improving and out quickly.

I need to get some dental work and other things done but that's impossible presently with the state seeing a thousand new cases of Covid variants daily. We are worse than last year, but deaths are down. They had begun loosening restrictions the previous summer, but that quickly stopped, and this is our tenth month of total lockdown.

This area is farming country Phyllis, FDR sent many of the Dust Bowl refugees here in the nineteen-thirties. While we may not have an encompassing program, there are multiple farms running programs either working for a share, paying for a share, or donating for someone else to have a share. There are also senior programs at reduced rates offering the same. We have a large organic store that offers farm produce during the summer, and local groceries feature local produce, albeit at a higher rate than their own. There are two local farmers' markets. One runs only during the summer, and the other runs all twelve months as they have a large warehouse building used during cooler months.

Patricia, good to hear she is home , that is what they gave the neighbour when she had pneumonia telling her to rinse her mouth after the inhaler or she could end up with thrush.

Your weather is balmy now...

What did I miss?  I went back two pages and I didn't "see" Rick in here.

I have a question...Does anyone in here have an Immersion Blender?  And if you do, what kind do you have and how much do you use it?  For a couple years now, I've been running across recipes that tell you to use and Immersion Blender and I've made do without and promised myself I'd get one and I never think of it until the next recipe that wants me to use one.  Now I started looking at them and there are sure a lot of them on the market!

I made the mistake of wrapping myself up in a nice soft blanket to watch TV tonight and I ended up not seeing any TV unless it was in my dreams.  Now I'm in my jammies and I'm ready to hit the haystack in a little while.

My son is sending one of the guys who works for him over here tomorrow with his battery charger and I guess we'll see if the battery will hold that kind of a charge.  If it doesn't, I'll get it running and head for WM for a new battery.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Post by: Shirley on January 12, 2022, 09:30:27 PM
Amy, wonder if that was Rick's son checking in or if Rick is home. Hummmmmmmmmmmm

I am off to bed early, no nap for me today. Had to wash the car & vac the inside 'cause the dealer I bought from this time "doesn't vac & doesn't chamois off the outside".... when getting an oil change. Since my cars only need an oil change once a year (RV gets more miles) it would have paid them to do this extra because I won't buy the next one from this dealer! Seriously, I expect SERVICE because they charge enough for oil changes (first one free)... Anyway, I did the job right & cleaned off the windows & always open doors to wipe off inside, you can tell Cas trained me well.  He only washed the cars I drove when we were going on a trip & he was driving it... so I would take my ladder & chamois & go to the car wash do it yourself kind & wash those big conversions vans. When the managers were around they were afraid I'd blow me off the ladder using the power hoses! Never did. Anyway, had a busier than usual day so earned my keep.

Phyllis, I also looked up Papa Spuds & wish we had something like that here! Even our Farmer's markets on Sat don't have much to brag about. I only went a couple times this year. Seems nobody grows normal tomatoes around here anymore, only the hydroponic & might as well buy them in the store, lot cheaper! I'm sounding whiny, better get something to eat & go to bed!

Jane, long time ago we had a car that kept playing dead so I took a nail & put it in where the one side of the clamp was (to the battery, shouldn't even tell this), but ever so often I'd have to push the nail down again to make contact. Now I don't remember which side (positive or negative) I put the nail or if it had to be a certain kind of metal.... As Cas used to call our procedures...jerry-rigged... but it worked!  The last van we had we spent 2 years trying to find why it wouldn't start after I stopped the 3rd time.... replaced battery, belts, alternator, starter & everything that had to do with it not starting.... and finally #1 son insisted I drive it to his house & turn it off... I warned him it wouldn't start but he said he'd start it... and he did something to discover the ground wire had come loose. He put on a new ground & that did the trick.

I wouldn't sell that van knowing it wouldn't start like that, so Cas bought me a little car to drive instead. Once the van was fixed I put a ForSale sign in the back window & sold it without any trouble. It had been sitting in the driveway for weeks without being started & someone knocked on the door to ask about it, I grabbed the keys & explained it hadn't been started for quite a while & it took right off. He bought it & we were both happy. Boy, I wish I had that van back, can't buy new ones like it anymore, I checked all over the US before buying the little Encore, would settle for a conversion van & get rid of the motorhome AND the new Encore. One that can go in the garage! Good luck with figuring out the problem.

I am off to eat & get ready for bed. Cats all accounted for. Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I went to bed early so I'm up early and waiting for Cooper's arrival!  And for the guy from my son's store who will charge my battery.  I'm thinking that I'll opt for a new battery whatever happens.

AMY, the Braun is one of the blenders I'm looking at and the other one is a KitchenAid.  The K one has lots of attachments and I'm wondering if I'll ever use them all but I do love my KA mixer!  And I think they might have that one at my local WM.

I always forget that you can can look to see who was looking in but not posting!

I'm on my way to get dressed before Cooper arrives.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Shirley, it could have been Ricks son.....hope he posts

Gloria, seems one has to be always on top of others just to get a job done. Yvette will soon be back and you can enjoy her work and company again.

Patricia, that is good news ,hope she recovers quickly. Hardly a walkway in that snow!!

Better scoot..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 30° now at 7am and a heatwave coming, supposed to get above freezing today, a heatwave ;) Must be after the coldest it has been here in 4 years. I think we were getting used to warmer winters here and less snow, too.

JANE  I thought I did good with the last car I had, 20 years before it died. A flaw Chevrolet made in the Corsica, no way for water getting out when it came in around the windshield. I was parked under pines and a hemlock tree and those needles went down with the rain-melting snow. Started backing up onto the floor of the car.  The dealer where i bought it never could find out why it was happening and it finally rotted the bottom of the car. The only new one I ever bought and 2 things I always made sure I had, good tires and a good battery.

AMY  darn a day late. I would have been there when the bread came out or the oven for that first warm slice with butter sinking into it. Yum yum, cannot get better bread.

JANE  I have one of those immersion blenders and seldom use it, my younger son uses his a lot and is on the third or fourth one now. He wears them out. I have been like you lately. wrapping in a warm blanket and watching TV while laying on the couch. At time dozing off and waking to some program I didn't know what I was watching so shut TV off and fall back to sleep so slept on the couch all night.

PATRICIA  those long halls look like the ones here. This building has a L shape and I am on the short side, I am first on the right of the elevator. The ones at the end of the long hall say they feel like they are walking a mile to the elevator or should have 2 elevators or should have it in the middle of the building. It is where the sides come together.

Time to go have breakfast so will say  will be back tomorrow.

Stay happy, healthy and safe.

Looks like a good home to me, Patricia. My daughter thinks I should stay in my home as long as I live but lately I've been explaining that it sounds pretty good to have other people doing all the work on maintenance, etc. One of her friend's mother recently went into a "retirement" center & loves it, loves having people to visit with, play cards with & eat in different dining rooms (or cook in) depending on the mood she is in. I know I am super tired with Tom keeping me awake at night & so many different jobs to take care of so won't make any decisions for now, I have heard the "grass is greener" all my life and just FYI, I envy you being in Alaska. BUT, that is serious snow, and aren't you glad you aren't out with a shovel!!??

Haha, Gloria, we had a brand new Honda Accord, first NEW one we every bought (1982) and should have guessed we were in for trouble when a part fell off driving it home from the dealer. At that time it was near impossible to get a new one (6 mo wait here), so when a guy that worked for Cas found he could order from a town about 75 miles from here we ordered from them. I kid you not, headliner fell out with 100 miles on it, even the metal strips around the windshield & back window buckled & had to be replaced. In the 2 years we kept the car we joked about "Honda replaced everything except the motor & it purred like a kitten." We traded it in for a conversion van & even got a recall on the wiring harness after so sent the recall to the person that bought it. The last straw was when the transmission finally went out, no 2nd gear or reverse when it got hot, so we had to pull off going over Eisenhower Pass to let it cool before we could make it to our next stop. When we got back I took it to the dealer along with a stack of papers showing how many times I'd taken it in before & they never found the problem (because they let it sit & cool before checking it). At that time Honda was considered the most dependable of all, and we never bought another! Cas had a company car so whatever I drove was the one that went on vacations to visit his mother or my parents. We didn't go on "vacations" until we started camping. I had never been camping but my father went deer or anteloupe hunting every fall with a group of men friends & would tell the tales until the next year. Sounded like fun to me so I was a willing camper.
By the way, I'm still grinning every time I think of the wild night you had with all the emergency attention. You are too far away to kick me so I can giggle, right?

Amy, I'm counting the days until I can work the trug over to plant the different types of lettuce, spinach & endive. NO more tomatoes for me. The greens we've been getting around here are so bad I have given up on buying lettuce. Son, Pete, brought over a pot of grass for the cats, what he bought at the pet store was so "root bound" it started dying before he could get it to me so he dug it out & prepotted in a large pot. Tiger was so thrilled when she discovered it sitting by the sliding door & that it was okay to eat, she munched off all the tops immediately & waiting for it to grow back. Pete also ordered some from Amazon that I don't have planted yet. Tom used to eat grass when we walked down to the river but not interested in much of anything now. He is hungry all the time & eats what the girls eat combined. He looks like he has been starved. Callie is looking fat with her heavy fur & I guess she eats grass next door (their yard is gorgeous green YET). That's only fair since 2 of their chickens come to visit me every day! I took a slice of bread out yesterday & fed them small bites, they thought that was neat & would try to grab a bite right out of the other's mouth! I am easily entertained!

David will go pick my grocery store order soon so I'll have to be short here.

I was pretty sure that many states that still have small private farms/dairies/bakeries, etc. would have the same "farm to fork" deals.  It is a boon to the small farmer that doesn't want to sell to a large agri-business.  And, we have some of those, too, but NC farmers are an independent group and prefer to keep their operations small enough to be managed by themselves.

I envy you your Amish Market, Jane, and wish we had one here.  We have a gazillion farm stands and each town has it's own farmers market and we have the big State Farmers Market over in Raleigh about 8 miles from me and I used to love going there.  The problem is I can't go do the shopping anymore so I need a place that has good and fresh food and that delivers  to me and Papa Spud's is that kind of place.

I have a very old Betty Crocker immersion blender that I use occasionally but mostly we like our soups lumpy so I just use an old-time potato masher.

I was looking on YouTube yesterday, Shirley, and saw the live video from the Spaghetti Works in Wichita, (near the railroad tracks) that it wasn't a bad day in Wichita, not even very windy!  Amazing!  I just remember that the wind seems to blow all the time!   ;D

Gotta' go.  Take care, All.

Good morning here; it is still warming with light snow.

Shirley, I wouldn't mind going into a retirement home either, but the fees start at over $5,000.00 monthly, so I'll wait a long while like you. This is simply a building reserved for disabled seniors with bells and whistles such as locked doors and 24/7 cameras in all public areas. We used to have maintenance and security teams 24/7 as well.

The past two years of Covid has seen that change to one security person, and you call a message center for maintenance (the same guys rotate between the state buildings). We had a building manager and asst. manager, and a liaison manager to work with tenants on paperwork and agencies but those work by phone these days. The two managers don't live in town, so they have extended their Christmas and New Year's vacation, waiting on snow removal.

Gloria, we have two elevators in the center of the T-shaped floors. I live at the far end of one. At the end of each hallway are the two ends of the T, which has two studios (for those with mobility issues) on each side of the staircase. The others are all one-bedrooms, about 850 square feet. In front of the elevator, behind the greenery, is the now-closed rec room.

Behind the elevator is a laundry room with four machines. Inside the laundry rooms is my favorite feature. You open up the door in the wall and drop your garbage in. No more cold weather garbage runs! On the first floor is a recycling room and all boxes and recycling are taken there.

The first floor has a large circular room containing all the offices, mailroom, and closed rec room. It also has a laundry room and a donation table by the mailroom. All visitors and delivery people come into this room if they're buzzed in. Tenants are called via intercom to fetch their guests or come to sign for something. You have to escort your visitors. Other newer complexes also offer camera access and locked entry doors but are more recent and don't have security, door fobs, or control over who comes into the buildings.

Speaking of entertainment, I recently purchased a battery-operated air freshener that you can place inside, aerosol cans of various scents. You have three places for minutes between automatic sprays or only manual sprays. I set mine at every 18 minutes. The first time it sprayed, Farrah was close by and startled. The second time she stalked the area, regarding the can suspiciously. She's no dummy; she watches to see how I react to the sprays and now takes her clues from that.

This is why we're on month ten of our total lockdown, "Alaska recorded back-to-back record-breaking daily COVID-19 case counts on Monday and Tuesday as the omicron variant squeezes hospital capacity and staffing in Anchorage, where most of the infections have been reported.

The state health department tallied 1,967 new COVID cases on Monday and 2,414 cases on Tuesday, smashing records set last week.

So far, the state hasn't reported a similar spike in hospitalizations, but some Anchorage hospitals say they are seeing more COVID patients, and more staff are calling in sick, forcing them to make tough decisions about patient care and visitors."

A potent winter storm is forecast to wallop tens of millions of people across the central, southern and eastern USA with snow, ice, wind and rain over the next few days.

"Get ready, a major snowstorm is coming," AccuWeather meteorologist Bernie Rayno warned.

The Weather Channel, which named the sprawling storm Izzy, said it is likely to produce "major travel headaches" from North Dakota down to northern Georgia and up to Maine.

The first area to see snow Friday will be the upper Midwest, where winter storm warnings, watches and weather advisories were issued by the National Weather Service. A wide swath of 6 to 12 inches of snowfall is expected to encompass the eastern Dakotas to western Minnesota and Iowa, AccuWeather said.

"There will be a band of heavy snow that generally extends from the eastern Dakotas and Minnesota southward to at least much of Missouri and maybe the Ozarks in Arkansas," said AccuWeather meteorologist Matt Benz. Minneapolis, Des Moines, St. Louis and Kansas City are all in the path of the storm.

On Friday and into Saturday, "difficult driving conditions are likely throughout this region as roads become snow covered," according to the weather service.

The day despite getting a early phone call has went well. Son called to say that a friend has passed. The family has had so much grief to deal with in the past Christmas eve saw the Mom with her 3 girls out to pick up a pizza get hit by a drunk driver killing the Mom and putting one of the twins in a wheelchair. She is the one who passed.
Supper was refrigerator clean out east to do and tasty too.

I'm glad to hear Rick is on the mend and might be coming home soon.  We do miss him when he's not here!

PATRICIA, we're supposed to get some snow overnight tonight in Central PA but it's not even calling for hazardous driving conditions.  We must have enough mountains around us that we are a bit protected.

I did an inventory of my kitchen freezer today and discovered that there is a lot of stuff left by Cindy and Christy and a lot of stuff used over the time of my surgery and recover that wasn't marked off.  But I discovered enough ham for a double batch of Phyllis's 15 bean soup so I'm going to make that next week after I get the rest of the stuff I need and then I'm going to try out my new Electric Pressure Canner!  That will give me enough time to read the book, clean the canner and test it out!  I'm excited about this one.  My old pressure canner is about 40 years old and I hold my breath every time I use it.  I'll probably hold my breath the first couple times I use the new one but I have a feeling I'll get over it!  And there won't be any HEAVY LIFTING involved.

The weather heated up today all the way to 43º and sunny and it's only down to 36 now and heading for 34 overnight so the snow that's coming probably won't stick around.

Frankie's co-worker tested positive for COVID today so Frankie didn't even come up to the door to get Cooper.  I took him outside and when she pulled in the driveway, I turned him loose and he jumped right in the car with her.  We'll use the same procedure when he comes tomorrow.  Thank God, Frankie is fully vaccinated!

Now I'm going to put the coffee on for tomorrow, shut things down, turn out the lights and head for the haystack.  I'm really tired tonight!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

I've been holding out to see if Richie would check in. I did call him this morning to check on Rick & will tell you, that Richie is such a nice kid~~

Patricia, I have been meaning all day to check our weather for the next few days and still have not gotten the job done. I heard we might get snow but not if it will be enough to move the snow blower to the garage. I've got too much "stuff" & have to move something out before bringing anything else in. My oldest son is the one that puts the gas in the snow blower & gets it set up for me, it has a pull start BUT also can plug it into power & push a button to start. I kind of forget the procedure since it doesn't get used every year. I have a couple neighbors that borrow it as long as the gas doesn't run out, it takes a gas/oil mix. I'm taking my son & his wife to the airport for a trip to Disney in FL, from Sat to Thursday, so may be sorry I didn't get him to help bring it around the last snow threat. We need the moisture so will work it out. Had a nice day today, was warm enough I hopped in the car to take some mail to the post office & forgot to put a coat on.

Amy, sorry about your bad news this morning. Sure seems like too much bad happening, hard to keep one's attitude UP at times.

Jane, hope Frankie doesn't catch Covid & have to stay away too long. Know how much you enjoy having she & Cooper stop by. Heard on the news some of our surrounding schools are closing down because so many students & teachers are out. Out of control here. I have the KN95 masks due in tomorrow (from Amazon). I ordered the ones Richie said he could carry on a conversation with. I hope I get the right ones (30 to a box). I wear a mask anytime I'm around people (stores, etc) but have a habit of lifting it up to talk to someone, but only do that when I know the person.

Tom had his last meal of the day & back in bed. Callie is outside, must be in the front. Tiger is in the basement or back room & not had her last meal of the day so I won't get to bed for an hour yet. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up since 5:45 waiting to see if Cooper would be here today.  He is!  But Frankie won't touch me and cautioned me to wipe the leash and wash my hands!  I did!

I had one of LLOYD'S pies made with canned buns for my breakfast.  I mad 8 of them and there are only 3 left and nobody helped me eat them.  They are "more-ish" and I'll be making them again.  I have more cherries canned and it worked very well.  I baked them in the oven instead of frying them and that worked out well, too.

Today, I'm hoping to make a trip to WM.  I really need a haircut and they still give me my discount.  And I want to get the stuff to make Phyllis's 15 bean soup so I can test my new canner next week.

Our overnight snow didn't amount to a "hill of beans" as my Dad used to say.  Anything not under cover was wet but the temps didn't get below freezing so wet is OK.

Now I have to get busy or this day will just disappear!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning.

We are back into deep freeze for a couple of days. Not much on the agenda, will coast..  An apple pie is waiting to be made and laundry folded the rest of the day is coasting.

Jane, I have made Phyllis's bean soup and it is delicious...unfortunately it was so good I didn't get a chance to can any. Enjoy your new canner!! Hope Frankie is avoiding the covid!

Shirley, with Tom being skinny would it help to put some cod liver oil( that just made me shiver) on his food?

Patricia, another snow storm!!! Mercy you have not got cleaned up from the last one!! Hope you are well stocked and don't have to go to the grocery store.

Gloria, you may not be late.I didn't think we would go through our loaf so quick and may bake bread tomorrow..will put a loaf in the hidely hole along with butter.

Richie, please join in we would love to have you here.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

You all are making my mouth water and I guess I'll have to put beans and ham on my grocery list.  But, first we have to finish the leftover potato soup I made.  We had a second meal of it last night and still have a third meal left.  I made a BIG pot of it to begin with.  And, I don't like to freeze potato soup.  Somehow, to my mind, it changes the texture and taste.  So, we just eat a lot of Potato Soup until it is all gone.  But, that is OK because it just gets better and better as time goes on.

Hope our big storm that is promised for tomorrow fizzles out like it did for you, Jane.  We are prepared if it doesn't.  Freezing rain and ice for our area, so they say, and that puts fear in the hearts of everyone here.  Ice storms bring this part of the country to it's knees.  Trees come down, power lines go out and roads and bridges become impassable.  Southern drivers just don't ever know how to deal with bad winter weather so there are always a lot of accidents, as well.  We've had some terrible ice storms in the past that just shut everything down for days.  Hope this one doesn't do that.

Amy, I was a skinny kid and didn't eat a lot because I always wanted to be out and playing.  That worried my mother so she made me drink cod liver oil  to, hopefully, keep me healthy.  I shudder to think of it, too.  That was the worst tasting stuff.  Ugh!

I'm praying that Rick is doing better and will be home and recuperating soon.

Take care, All.

Amy, I wasn't going to post right now, got half a dozen things going & I can't keep "3 balls in the air" anymore. I have a good friend, same age as I am, & we laugh with each other about how many things we CAN'T do anymore & multi-tasking tops the list. The idea of adding codliver oil to his food what started me laughing. I bought a bottle of child's Benadryl when we were in CO some years ago, supposed to help with Tom's nervous tummy. He barfs in his cage on the way TO the RV, so not motions sickness. Put a few drops of that Benadryl on his fav foods & he refused to eat any of it, and he has been starving all his life. Bought some pills at the pet store to calm him down, he wasn't interested & could clean around them slick as a whistle. He honestly can eat twice as much as the girls, has normal poop & urine & keeps me busy cleaning the litter box every time he uses it. He gets weaker every day but perks up when I put a dish of food under his nose. I keep wondering if he is doing a con job on me pretending not to see...  :-\

We have storm warnings starting with rain this evening turning to snow overnight. Sure is needed but I did hope for a few nice days to enjoy a CLEAN car. I noticed in the bright sun yesterday evening when I took mail to the post office, that I missed a couple streaks on the front windshield & was going to clean them before taking the kids to the airport... but... I will head to top off the car with gas to make sure enough to last if we do have snow for a while. I keep the motorhome tank full in case of bad weather, can always run that generator to keep warm & use the frig & freezer. Bring it on, I'll handle it!

Wishing all a great day. I need to go take care of Callie, was hoping she would take care of business while outside but that's not how she operates.... she is hunched up on the step to come in & will head straight to the utility room where HER litter box & training pad is, & I have decided to donate from my rag-bag, some small towels because she will water them down or any other cloth she finds on the floor. I just throw those rag-towels in the trash every evening & glad she used something other than a small rug!  Cat problems, I do have them!

Hi, Phyllis, how can we be half a country apart & expecting the same weather? Betcha YOU don't get the wind we are promised! Stay safe.

Thanks, Amy, will head there next!

Here is the latest on the US snowstorm from USA Today,"Major travel disruptions are expected with the storm throughout the Martin Luther King Jr., holiday weekend.   https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/01/14/winter-snow-ice-storm-path-weekend-south-east/6525628001/

Ice will be a particular concern with the storm in portions of the Carolinas. Meanwhile, Atlanta could see its first measurable snow in four years.

The storm's last stops will be the mid-Atlantic and Northeast after it takes a sharp turn to the north-northeast on Sunday and into Monday.

A winter storm began to dump snow across the upper Midwest on Friday as it made its way toward the South and eventually the East Coast, promising weekend weather havoc for millions of people.

As of Friday morning, more than 50 million Americans were under some level of winter weather alert, according to the National Weather Service. The alerts stretched from North Dakota to as far south as Georgia, then up into the Northeast in Pennsylvania.

Major travel disruptions are expected with the storm throughout the Martin Luther King Jr., holiday weekend, AccuWeather said.

The storm is known as a "Saskatchewan screamer," AccuWeather said, as it originated in that Canadian province. Meanwhile, the Weather Channel has named it "Winter Storm Izzy."

After pasting the Upper Midwest with up to a foot of snow in some areas on Friday, the storm is forecast to dive into the South on Saturday and into Sunday, spreading snow into cities such as Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Memphis is forecast to see as much as 3 inches of snow, while up to 5 inches could fall in Nashville, the weather service said.

Atlanta is also in the path of the storm, which could end the city's nearly four-year streak without measurable snow.

Ice will be a particular concern with the storm in portions of the Carolinas. A weather service forecast office in South Carolina said "power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Additionally, strong wind gusts may add more stress to ice-covered trees."

The storm's last stops will be the mid-Atlantic and Northeast after it takes a sharp turn to the north-northeast along the Eastern Seaboard on Sunday and into Monday.

Heavy snow is forecast to wallop portions of the region – especially the Appalachians and interior Northeast – with as much as 18 inches of snow by the time the storm winds down late Monday.

The best chance for heavy snow is expected to be north and west of the Boston-Washington Interstate 95 corridor, from parts of Northern Virginia to Maine, Weather.com said.

Virginia declares state of emergency
In Virginia, Gov. Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency Friday as the storm approached. State police are warning people to avoid travel during the holiday weekend due to the storm, just days after a previous storm halted traffic on part of Interstate 95.

State police are preparing for this latest round of winter weather and will have all available troopers on patrol to respond as quickly as possible to traffic crashes, emergencies and disabled motorists, according to a statement.

Virginia state officials came under intense criticism following a winter storm last week. Many motorists reported getting little assistance while they were stuck in gridlock on I-95, which according to officials began after a commercial vehicle jackknifed.

Winter storm preparedness checklist
The National Weather Service recommends you keep the following items in your car if you're traveling:

Mobile phone, charger, batteries
Blankets/sleeping bags
Flashlight with extra batteries
First-aid kit
Knife
High-calorie, non-perishable food
Extra clothing to keep dry
Large empty can to use as emergency toilet, tissues, toilet paper and paper towels
Small can and waterproof matches to melt snow for drinking water
Sack of sand or cat litter for traction
Shovel
Windshield scraper and brush
Tool kit
Tow rope
Battery booster cables
Water container
Candle and matches to provide light and in an emergency, lifesaving heat.
Compass and road maps, don't depend on mobile devices with limited battery life

FYI, Southeast Alaska is included in the weather patterns of the western US states of Washington, Oregon and Northern  California, and Hawaii. These are in another geographical and geometric zone than the Interior or arctic portions of the state.

AMY, I'm still doing the reading and getting ready for the canner.  I'm going along with Cathy to WM tomorrow and getting the stuff to make Phyllis's 15 bean soup.  Hopefully, I can soak the beans overnight on Sunday night and make and can the soup on Monday.  There's a lot more to this canner than there is to my old one and it's just beautiful!

I completed the inventory of my freezer in the storeroom and I sure don't have to buy any ham for the soup!  And I found two containers of chicken broth in there that I can use.  with  so many people in my house cooking and me not cooking at all for almost 2 months, I lost track of what I had.  Now I'm back to normal!

I hope nobody gets frozen out or blown away in the upcoming storm!  I'm just going to "batten down the hatches" and sit it out!

Remember when we couldn't find Lloyd & Nancy for a few days & talked about sharing our phone numbers & addresses with at least one other.... and Rick offered to be the "Keeper of those numbers & names".... I sent him mine & he sent me his so that's how this started. I also have Gloria's & she has mine, not sure who else has mine but we are a family in here & do worry about each other.

Got a call from my daughter, her oldest son (lives in Wichita) just tested positive for Covid. His wife's father died (in a nursing home) from Covid in the last couple months so they are all in the know.... 2 of her sisters & families (all live in another state) have also had it so they know what to do. The 2 youngest girls aren't vaccinated but the son has had the first shot/vac. I've offered my services, to leave anything that can't be delivered on their doorstep.

The wind has picked up, it's howling... radar shows rain/snow or ice to the north of us so we will be hunkered down tonight. I think we are still on the fringe of worst of it. Must go find Callie & Tiger, Tiger has a habit of hiding in a closet if she finds a door open & may be locked up somewhere. Last I saw of Callie, she was outside. Tiger showed up at the kitchen door, came in & went over to Tom & washed his face. He is laying by the "toe warmer" vent under the sink. Laying on my new Gel Pad Andy & Pam gave me for my birthday. Boy, they are NICE.... from Bed,Bath & Beyond.

Hi, Jane, sure doesn't take long to get out of our grove. I need to defrost my freezer but will have to wait a while longer. You have a lot of cooking equipment, some of mine has gone to the storage shelf downstairs & I still haven't bought an air fryer.

SHIRLEY, I'm so sorry to hear that COVID has taken over in part of your family.  It can be scary.  Frankie is avoiding me until she's sure she isn't carrying it from her coworker.  Also, I also have some telephone numbers but many of the ones I have them for are gone.... I truly miss them and even though I've never met most of them face-to-face, it's like the loss of a good friend!

I don't have a "lot" of cookware, SHIRLEY.  I have the necessities.  My pressure canner is almost 50 years old and it's the kind that needs to be on a burner on the stove.  It has some rust spots on the outside and every time I use it, I worry about the canned goods AND the stove top.  I put off getting a new one for a long time because I thought I didn't have that many more years to use it.  Now I've decided that the years it's used don't matter.  My daughter will use it when I'm gone and I can stop worrying about the old one.

I'm heading for the haystack because when I get up tomorrow, I have to get ready to GO!  Cathy is taking me with her when she goes to WM so I can get my hair cut while she shops and I'll be able to get some birthday cards and a couple other things that I need to ge myself instead of having her do it for me.  And I have to get a shower and be ready when she gets here.  She promised to text me when she's getting in the shower so I have time.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
