"ALL THAT TAKING, ALL THAT GIVING by Pat Hyne ©

So afraid of living,
All that taking,
All that giving.

Afraid of giving,
Afraid of living.

Not wanting to know,
That tender touch,
Making me feel so much.

Afraid of taking,
Afraid of giving,
Just plain afraid of living.

Can't get too close,
So don't break my shell,
By knowing me too well.

If I give a little,
I'd have to say, "o.k.,
Love me all the way.

So, I just stay,
Too afraid of living,
With all that taking,
And all that giving.

Doo- lally- Pip

As age creeps up, then you may find,
It is playing tricks that affect the mind.
You are driving along, then without knowing.
Suddenly you have forgot'n where you are going.
How many times have you been heard to say,
I don't know what day it is today.
There's something important you must not forget,
So you write it down, but can't find it yet.
You go out shopping, didn't need a lot,
What you really went for, you have not got,
Never mind, you can always borrow,
Must remember to pay it back tomorrow.
Some time when you go to use the John.
By the time you get there the feelings gone.
When it's pill time , while you go get a drink,
Have I already had them, you then start to think.
You get to a stage when it becomes frustrating.
That brain of yours is just not rotating.
These are the signs of a popular quip.
I think I'm going doo-lally-pip.

Richard

Doo- lally -Pip is a well known slang phrase used in some parts of the U K for becoming a little forgetful in a nice way.

Love them all, Bubble. Thanks for cleaning us up and the graphics are "right on". Hope all is well in your world today, haven't seen much of you lately.

Looks like the snow that fell early last night melted (ground was warm). Radar shows another band hanging over Wichita but don't see it falling. The "feels like" temp is 2°  but actual is 20°. We have gusty wind blowing.

Two cats fed & now my turn. Tiger often doesn't want breakfast when the rest of us eat, maybe they are a tad spoiled?  Spring is on the way.... won't be long we'll be yelling about how hot it is!

Good morning.

Down right chilly here this morning with a temp of -24°. Will be staying close to the fire today.
Laundry and baking are in order for the day and not sure what else.

Bubble, as Shirley said LOVE it all.

Need to boogie.
.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Frosty Morning
from the Much below freezing
Rocky Coast of Maine with a
Wind Chill of -26 deg F!

Good day to stay indoors.
I have to go down and pick up
groceries from Kelly around 11:30
so things should have warmed up
a bit.

I am hibernating in my bedroom
because it is the warmest room
in my apartment.   So no complaints,
I am safe and warm ...

Covid has spread through Kelly's
family but they had a mild case of it
because everyone has been vaccinated.

The foster kids,  being so small
brought covid right into their
home, but fortunately everyone is
doing well.  Even the beautiful little
Foster boys...

Enjoy your day everyone,  and stay
warm as we host "Old Man Winter" ..

Good morning everyone 4°at 9am and feels like-15°. When I pulled the shades up I could feel the cold coming from the triple track windows. I always have long sheer curtains up and glad I do. Put a hand between the curtain and the window and you can feel the cold.Shows how shoddy the material used on this place is. My son's over 100 years old has less drafts around the windows than this less than 20 year old building is. It looks beautiful outside, the ssn is shining and the sky a bright blue the way it gets when the humidity is low.

PATRICIA  the list you posted to keep in cars in winter are pretty standard here, too, except they say to keep some food, like candy, granola, cereal. Everything in containers mice cannot get into.

SHIRLEY  good news about Rick. Always good getting out of a hospital to go home.

JANE  both of my sons will go shopping for me and at times I want to go with one of them but know I will get me worn out and take a few days to rest up from it. They do get what I have on my list but the always add things they know I like or would enjoy. Yvette always get what I had on the list but none of the others pay attention when I put a brand name on things and I tell them if the do not have what I wrote down do not get any substitute they pay no attention.

BUBBLE  great graphics, poor mamawolf looks worn out. I think I am already "doo-lally-pip."Thanks for the new page and the goodies.

Have a good day keep warm and safe.

Sandy, sorry to hear Kelly's family and covid. Thank goodness they only have a mild case. Hope they all feel better and soon.

Gloria, although the sun is shinning here the wind chill factor is horrible.  Monday we are to get a snow storm ,so milder temps but you do pay for them with the snow.

Good Saturday morning (added the day in case anyone else "relates" as I do to Bubble's "Do-Lolly-Pop" verse  ;) )

"Winter Storm "Izzy" is supposed to nip Oklahoma but mainly east of OKC.  It's about 27º here in the OKC area but I haven't seen any snow....yet.

#1 son took me to a "maintenance" medical appointment yesterday and then to do a couple of errands.  Could not believe that Office Depot was completely out of 3-color boxes of printer ink.  We found it at Wal-Mart. The office supplies are in the very back of this "Super" Walmart .  Parking lot was very crowded and I didn't want to walk that far so stayed in the car.  Interesting to watch folks pull in and out; noticed that most were NOT wearing masks.

Son brought me a box of the Kwhatever masks that the experts are now "dictating" we should have.  I was disappointed that he wasn't able to get the ones that have straps to go around your head.  My ears are too close to my head to easily handle glasses, hearing aids and mask straps.

Project du Jour is to do some kitchen duties and then more office shelf organizing.

Didn't go back to see comments on the former page so will just wish Good Things for Everyfriend and their loved ones.

Post by: patricia19 on January 15, 2022, 01:45:52 PM
Good morning, it's presently five above at nine AM. Yesterday I went shopping with friends, and it was raining on top of all those freshly cleared driveways, parking lots, and roads! Everywhere was ice, and it was the most amazing thing, we all agreed. Rain in the middle of one of our supposedly frigid months! The only thing I could compare it to would be a blizzard in July!

Besides an enjoyable outing with friends, the main reason I went was to take in a watch I received last Christmas. I assumed the battery was dead. It turned out to be something else. The watch doesn't use batteries! If you don't wear it daily, you need to leave it under a lamp so it can recharge! She had the purchase on record and told me to come back in 72 hours, and it would be fine. I only needed to leave the watch under a light instead of closing it in my jewelry box. I have never heard of that before, have you?

I purchased a set of 24 4.5 spice glass jars with labels. I use lots of spices and wanted a uniform look. This set had both printed and blank labels for the tops. I believed I was set until later, I attempted to decant everything, and the printed labels only fit eleven of my spices. There were no labels for simple spices such as snipped or sweet basil, only basil. I had zesty garlic herb, and they didn't. Luckily they included three sheets of blank black labels and a chalk marker, or the set would have been returned.

I also purchased everything for a slow cooker pot roast except for the actual pot roast. So, yesterday was interesting, to say the least. The four of us had a great idea at the time, but now some of us are wondering. We found some adorable pajamas with blue-gray stripes, and we thought it would be fun to have a pajama party with everyone wearing matching PJs. The husbands all evidently said yes to the party no to them wearing matching PJs. At least we're set if we ever have a ladies' night in. 😄  So, that was my day out.

Gloria, They had those rockit mini apples in. I love them. They're from Washington state and very juicy. I don't know if I asked before if you'd tried them?

Sandy, I, too, am sorry to hear about Kelly's family. My niece and her husband just got out of the hospital in Utah. He was in and out quickly, but she was in for a time because of her asthma and acquired pneumonia. She came home last week with both new antibiotics and a new inhaler. People who insist on crazy conspiracy theories and refuse to follow basic health procedures make me so angry.

Bubble, love the new opening!

Good afternoon to everyone, and thanks to all for the encouraging words & Prayers.
Got home about 6:00pm last night but with little energy so didn't do much other than relax and try to catch up on the necessities.  Laying in bed with an IV all day is certainly not a good way to develop or retain stamina.  So now will start the road to regaining some ambition and strength.
The hospital called in a Rx to the CVS I usually use but when my son went there to pick it up they were closed. Seems someone in the Pharmacy area had a + Covid test so they closed the Pharmacy. Luckily the CVS Pharmacy my son uses was able to get into the CVS Data Base, understood what happened and fill the Rx at another place. I guess that is one advantage of the larger chains,
Being there are only two males here now, "certain" neglected chores cry to be done.  They'll wait their turn but will be done. Laundry will have to wait till I feel up to doing stairs (to the basement).
If I can find some eatable bread now I'm going to have a nice PB and raisin sandwich  with a glass of milk.
Will try to come back later and catch up on posts.
Again, - Thanks my friends.

I like phone calls that say "meet me at the fence" . I went out and the neighbour handed me a container of hot carrot soup which is delicious!!

The day was cold with a bit of wind and the laundry blew out nice. I was hesitant to put it out but when the snow gets too deep I won't be able to.

Rick, good to see you here. As Patricia said  those chores will wait. Your health is more important and you don't need any set backs.

Patricia, solar powered watch? My Dad had a watch that the movement of his arm kept the watch running.

Jane, where are you???

Amy, it's a Christmas gift, (a Citizen brand watch), from 2020 and I don't believe they, gifters, knew either.  The clerk put mine with another she is "recharging" and unless she calls saying otherwise, I'll pick it up on Monday.\

Jane had this to say last night, "I'm heading for the haystack because when I get up tomorrow, I have to get ready to GO!  Cathy is taking me with her when she goes to WM so I can get my hair cut while she shops and I'll be able to get some birthday cards and a couple other things that I need to get myself instead of having her do it for me.  And I have to get a shower and be ready when she gets here.  She promised to text me when she's getting in the shower so I have time."

I'm here, AMY, but it's been a busy day.  I did get my hair cut while Cathy shopped and I feel like a different person.  It's supposed to start snowing sometime tomorrow and it's saying 4 to 8 inches followed by rain and freezing rain so I guess I'll just stay home and make soup.  I have all the stuff to make Phyllis' 15 bean soup and my mouth iswatering already.  I'm going to set the beans to soaking before I go to bed tonight.

I got a collection of pictures from my granddaughter in OK for Christmas and I got a really neat frame that held all of them.  It's hanging in my dining area where I can see it from most of the living space.  They are all in the pictures and I love them.  They were taken at the beach last summer and the kids (my two greats) look like they're having a great time.  Actually, my granddaughter and her husband also look like they're having a good time.

RICK, it was so good to come in here and see a post from you.  I'm so glad you are feeling better and up to posting.  Take it slow and easy.  The other stuff will wait!

AMY, I bet those clothes that dried on the line smelled soooo good!

Sorry I wasn't around earlier and it seems that when I post right before BUBBLE cleans house and gives us a fresh space, I'm the last one and sometimes I get missed.  I see PATRICIA didn't miss me!  BUBBLE, I loved the new place!  You are so talented!

I'm having a M*A*S*H marathon tonight.  I looked for something to watch while I ate my supper and I couldn't find anything I wanted to watch so I got out my CDs.

Now I'm going to see what I can get done before I put the beans to soak and get ready for bed!  I hope you all had a good day and that tomorrow will be another good one!  I sure hope the electricity doesn't go off.  I'll have to go out and build a fire in the yard to stay warm!

My son put Duckduckgo on my computer & iPad.... both my sons use it now, a lot less tracking. It already pointed out one site that I've been looking at (camping stuff) that does more than their fair share of tracking so I won't be visiting it anymore!

I did get over to see your photos, Patricia, but didn't have time to comment.... Tom had come in to eat & I had to walk him back to his bedroom. He acts like he doesn't know where he is but when I tell him to get a drink of water he goes right to it. I zoomed in on the tail of that cloud & looks like it might be coming from a smoke stack (not the right term). Take a good look, I am fascinated by clouds & that one is really interesting.

Good to see you pop in Rick, hope you take time to fully recover for the hospital stay. I do think it takes a while to get our bodies back (strength), have a quote from long ago to that effect. Will see if I can find it. I think June may have posted it a long, long time ago.

Have another gr-son that thinks he MIGHT have Covid, his significant other had whatever it is last week but they haven't been tested, fully vaccinated & boosted, & lines are long here for the tests. Don't think as bad as the photo Bubble posted!  I need to go back to tell her I've already told my daughter about her photo & my daughter was sorry to hear it that bad since she had considered Israel being on top of all countries for "getting it right".

I'm off to take my "Saturday night shower"... to be ready for Google to wake me up at 5:00am so I can feed cats & a bite for myself. I take my blood thinner Bayer but never on an empty stomach... used to be only on Sunday mornings but a little more often (not every day) since I don't take the normal blood thinners after heart surgery. I did try after the stents & had so many side effects life was not the same. We all make choices.

Sweet dreams & God Bless

Not anything going on here other than household items and playing catchup.

We've recently gained enough daylight to reach five hours and fourteen minutes today, increasing from December 21st. solstice of just under three hours.

I thought I'd better check in while I still can.  Ice everywhere here and power lines are beginning  to come down.  Over 44 thousand people are without power right now and more to come.  The wind is coming up and that will bring down limbs and trees, too.  All flights have been canceled out of Raleigh/Durham airport.  I'd rather have a foot of snow than to deal with this stuff.  I'm going to put a beef stew in the InstaPot and hope that the power stays on long enough to cook it.  If not, I made peanut butter last night and we can at least eat sandwiches.  We won't go hungry.  The trouble with ice is that everyone is affected. If homes are dark then all groceries, restaurants, etc. are dark, too.  And, with the streets iced over you couldn't get out to eat, anyway!

Take care, Everyone, and stay safe.

Oh, by the way, Shirley.........HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  :cake:    :cheer:

Good morning still.Had a sleepless and restless night. Fell asleep about the time I would wake up.Oh well warmest place was in bed anyway. Just checked local weather says 17° but feels like 2° Not windy and the sun is bright and the clear blue winter sky. A storm is on the way tomorrow but missed weather on TV this morning.

CALLIE  I am with you about the ones who do not believe this covid exists and will not wear a mask.Since I seldom see others these days and they all wear masks I hope I escape getting it and had vaccine, too.

PATRICIA  never heard of those apples and some varieties grow in different climates.

RAMMEL  welcome home, great seeing your post today. Don't rush to do every thing and wear yourself out.

PATRICIA  I don't have Facebook and the most I do on the PC is here  and some Skype and email but nothing that could hurt if anyone wants to spy on it.

JANE  I think you will love that 15 bean soup like everyone in my family does. First time I found a gab of those beans was about 20 years ago still when I liked to cook and still had an appetite.

AMY  I am not about to bundle up and go see if the snow is crunches here.  Have all I can do to keep warm in here. Have the thermostat pushed up to 80 and still not warm.

LLOYD  glad you are enjoying the nut clusters.

PHYLLIS  no matter where we live an ice storm in never welcome.

Have a good day and keep warm and safe.

Thank you, Amy, Phyllis, Patricia & Gloria. You know, this does feel like family of long ago, a little more spread out....  :kitten:

Phyllis, like you, I dread ice more than snow. Sorry so many without power. We had 8 days without about 9 years ago was a nightmare. We opted to stay in the house to keep the fireplace going in hopes of saving the water pipes. Got a generator but had to run 4 hours & off 4 hours so did save the pipes but lost some foods. Stay safe!

Thank you, Tome, it certainly has been a busy day. It actually did warm up enough to melt all of the snow, but first thing this morning the trees were spectacular with their frosty branches. I tried to take a photo with my phone/camera & it decided not to work. The battery has been trying to tell me I need a new phone, won't hold a charge. Never liked this one because it is so small & has ATTITUDE! iPhoneSE or something. No photos, anyway. The iPad does a good job with pics but I still don't know how to get them from the iPad to e-mail or computer. duh......... Thanks for the birthday wishes.....I am now officially 87.

Sweet dreams to all, God Bless.

Good morning..
A day of dancing here..snowed during the night and it is still falling. I guess one shouldn't complain as we have been lucky so far.

Phyllis, I don't mind snow but really dislike freezing rain. We are ok here with the cookstove and generator but a lot are without heat in power outages.

Making this short, music has started ,time to waltz.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

Well, I missed two birthdays yesterday.  SHIRLEY, I hope yours was a good one and that you'll celebrate many more before you decide not to have any more!!  I'm thinking along those lines.  If we decide not to have them, does that mean we stay the way we are now?  Maybe, on our birth day we should start subtracting.  Would that work?

I didn't get in here last night.  I decided that I'd better get my soup canned yesterday just in case we had a power outage today.  I didn't want to risk losing it all.  And I was tired up the gazoo last night so I hit the hay early.  I was in bed and ready for sleep at 9:30 and I don't think I've gone to bed that early since I was 10!  Naps...yes but not bed for the night!  And I have 15 pints of Phyllis's 15 Bean soup to show for my efforts.  One didn't seal but that's OK. I have enough more for about a half a canner full plus redoing that one.  That's my job for today....If the power stays on!

And I better go get dressed and get started.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, heard that I-90 was closed down to truckers and not sure if it is open yet. Talked  with David and he is parked up in Erie and he said there is more than 2 feet of snow there. I am not complaining about the 3-4 inches we have at the moment but if it doesn't stop snowing we will have 2  feet!! Decided to wait a bit before having the dance may have to do it twice. At the moment one can not see all that far, coming down with a vengeance at the moment. Apparently to the south of us they received a lot more snow than us!

Well, I haven't started the canner yet.  My neighbor plowed my driveway and I decided that I needed to salt the areas where there was ice under the snow.  The snow seems to have stopped at somewhere between 3 and 4 inches but they're saying we could get more later today.  I have no plans to go anywhere and nothing to go in.  My car is still sitting out there playing dead!  My son says, "Sit tight! I have a plan!"  Exactly HOW does one "sit tight"?

LLOYD, it sounds like your move to the duplex was a good one if only for the visits from the little girl with the hugs!  You are one lucky guy!  I hope you know that.  I'd give anything to get hugs from my greatgrands but Oklahoma is a long way from Pennsylvania!  I do get face time calls but it's not as good as a hug.

AMY, I sure hope David is OK and doesn't have to sit around too long.  He doesn't strike me as someone who enjoys sitting still for long periods of time!

I'm off to the kitchen!  I also have a couple of crossword puzzles from the newspaper that I haven't attacked yet.  Have a good day, whatever it brings

You get out one of those bottles you tell us are for cooking.  Unscrew the cap, take a nip. If not tight yet, repeat the process. Keep repeating till desired result is achieved.

GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND and belated
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES
🦋 SHIRLEY 🦋

I could not understand WHY I could not post, and finally discovered that I was not logged in🤪🤪

First off, thank you, Rickie, for letting us know about your dad.  RICK, so happy you are home and hopefully  you are feeling stronger everyday.

JANE, happy you were able to get your hair cut😘 Hope you are not still "holding tight"‼️🤪. I still use that phrase but not sure exactly how one does this!

AMY..."one day closer to spring" 🤪🤪🤪🤪

GLORIA, any of us that have managed to avoid Covid I do believe we are on borrowed time.  I no longer think in the line of "if I get Covid, rather WHEN"......that being said, I hope you or anyone reading this AND MY DAD never get it!

We will be heading to Dr. Dave's shortly for another week of staying with the grandkids.  Last week went fine and everyone survived our "being in control"🤪🤪😘

I wish you all a good day.

Jenny

Snow is cleaned up for the moment. What was 3-4 inches this morning early turned into 12-15 inches
in some areas up past my knees! Not many out on the roads today. Not sure if there will be a dance tomorrow or not but snow is still gracing the ground.

Jenny, I can't imagine you being in control, well maybe with a soft heart and lots of hugs and kisses.

RICK, in case you're wondering, that's me rolling on the floor and laughing below AMY'S post.  She thinks it's her but it's not!  And now, I think I'll try your suggestion!  I don't have anywhere to go or a vehicle to go in.  It's the perfect time....NOT!

I finished canning the soup and I have 7 more jars.  Plus, the one I thought didn't seal yesterday had second thoughts and sealed itself in the fridge overnight.  I think I'll just leave it there and eat it first, just in case!  That's a total of 23 jars.  I better start eating it right away.  Frankie likes it too!

Now, my first load of laundry has stopped drying and my second one has stopped washing so I better take care of that little job.

JENNY, you are so lucky to have the major part of your family close by.  I would love to be closer to mine.

Enjoy the rest of your day.  The snow is still holding off here.  I'm hoping we're finished.  Frankie is quaranting until her COVID test comes back.  The gal she works with the closest has the virus and the store is sending Frankie a test and she won't go back until the test results are in.  She's not communicating with anyone except Cooper!  And I miss them both.

Stopping by to say good night. My day is full of taking care of cats & talking to a little red hen that lives next door.... watching birds out my window & texting & talking to my 3 kids. One of these days I will get the bigger jobs done needed around the house.

Tom had a bad day, he did spend some time outside in the sun but seemed more confused about where he was back in the house. He enjoys his food, hungry all the time, but not sure I am making it better for him to keep him alive. He doesn't seem to be in any pain.... and I am tired so better shut up & get to bed.

Lloyd, not sure I thanked you for the offer & suggestion about a generator. You have a very kind heart. I take comfort in having a motorhome with generator & all the conveniences and could even drive it over to get a connection to electricity if the need arose. We are lucky to have these extras in case of power out.

I'm heading to bed, sweet dreams and God Bless. It is still in the mid 40s tonight so CallieCat wanted back outside. She really appreciates her freedom & wearing a heavy fur coat to keep her warm.

Today was a good day all around....

The snow stopped at about 3 inches and didn't start again...
My neighbor plowed my driveway and front walk...
I finished the soup...
I got two loads of wash finished and put away...
I finished 2 crossword puzzles and two word jumbles...
I took a walk...
I answered a bunch of emails...
I paid some bills...
I emptied all the trash cans inside...

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..
Warmer this morning starting out at 2° and a beautiful full moon out.

If roads permit I will take Kyle to pick up more pine this morning. When home will tidy up the snow blowing and the drifting from the high winds last night. We are to get another storm passing through today. Just let the dogs back in and I can see their path has a lot of wind blown snow in it.

Jane, you had a busy day yesterday!

Shirley, have you named your Rhode Island hen?

Lloyd, glad you had a better nights rest.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Shirley, I am sorry to hear that Tom is having trouble. At times I think my Lucy might be getting a bit senile. She kind of starts off to do something and stops and stares like she is trying to figure out what she wanted to do in the first place. She had a thyroid condition and as lost her hearing. She is eating well, but not gaining much weight.

Good morning everyone, plow just went through the parking lot spreading sand. Even the walks look shiny. Hope no one has to get out before the maintenance guy shows up and spreads the ice melt. Had some CNA's in the building before he showed up yesterday, it was a holiday so he left as soon as he did a little ice treatment. Witch took the day off of course. I just about got out off bed yesterday morning a little after 8 and the CNA was here. Bad enough when that miserable Karren sends one at 9 and I told her that is too early now she send one at 8 and did not let me know. I like the one she sent or I would have sent her away but it would hurt the CNA and me more than that stinker at the company. She told me she was sliding walking across the parking lot.
When I pulled up the shade in the bedroom and looked out I was surprised to see that big moon and a few white clouds in the sky. Maybe the sun will warm it up later? Nah will still be too cold for me to even think of going to the door and look out and get a breath of fresh air. On top of being in the teens it was pretty windy with 40+mph gusts. We don't usually have winds like that.

SHIRLEY  one year before Christmas we had an ice storm and were without power. Had to cook the meat in the freezer and the 5 of us were tired of meat before the power was restored I am still not a big meat eater. The electric being restored on Christmas Eve was a good present that year.

LLOYD  my oldest son has a big generator from when he had a welding shop and he has used it in his house when power was out. Does no happen often in this town.

AMY rather the snow than ice.

JANE  maybe this year I should try subtracting a year and see if it brings back some off the energy I had last year? That was when the dentist gave me so auch anti biotics I ended in the hospital, the worse February 2nd I ever had.

RICK  thanks for my morning laugh. Love your explanation of "sit tight"

JENNY  I have been staying in my apartment only my sons and the CNAs have been in and they had all the shots and the CNAs keep their masks on. I have them wash their hands when they come in. If the tell me they just did down stairs I tell them you touched the elevator buttons and the door handles since then. I have a dispenser of soap for them in the bathroom and a roll of paper towels. If I could do things myself I would not have any CNAs in here. They work with many different clients and who knows if they are all protected-if all the shots help.

AMY  glad I am not the only one who laughed with Rick's explanation of "sit tight"

JANE  with this weather and your talking about the 15 bean soup I think I will take a container out of the freezer to have later. I no longer make it, no room in here for a big pan and what I have are too small. My older son is turning into a pretty good cook since he retired. Prayers that Frankie does not get the Covid.

AMY  Glad you saw that beautiful moon this morning. I looked out half an hour later aht the cky was no longer as clear and the moon looked like it was a mist around it and the sky was over cast. Glad I saw it when it was nice and clear and even the clouds were white from the glow of the moon. Get it right, that is a Rhode Island Red Hen. We Rhode Islanders want our names right you know. Just because we are small we have to make a big noise about what we have. :smiley6600: :tickedoff: :2funny: ;D

Have a good day, stay warm and safe.

I meant to ask earlier if any of you have bought the new mask they call fish mask because it is pointed > The number of it is KN95. Don't waste your money.
I bought a package of them and soft they are NOT. Stiff like carboard on your face. Try to talk and it keeps moving up to your eyes. I thought it was me but the CNA yesterday and today has them. The company told them they were the best and wants them to wear them. Of course they do not supply them. They want them to wear gloves and gives them one box a month, it lasts a week because they have to keep changing them, I know Yvette always had to buy gloves and she bought the kind that fit, not the cheap ones supplied. The CNA today and yesterday bought her own gloves, too, so she would have them when needed. Masks cost more than the gloves. Masks I have that fit the best  that I have were made by a good friend and wash good, not made to throw away.

Gloria, I did think it was a good reply to Janes "sit tight". I had just come in, tired/frustrated from trying to move the 12+ inches of snow and sat at the computer and all frustration went away when I read Ricks post. Can't you just picture Jane being "tight"?

Second go of snow cleaned up,a lot was from drifting so all set for the next snack of snow.

I don't think the K95's masks are supposed to be "soft", they are supposed to have enough layers to protect you from droplets.  I have some of them, and they fit well if you need to adjust the ear straps and the nose piece.  The cloth masks that so many good folks sewed are supposed to be almost pointless unless they have one of those plastic filters that fit inside.  They say hold the cloth mask up to the light and if you can see light, then it won't do the job it's intended for.

I'm ready to head for the haystack.  I'm tired but I got a good report from the dr. today.  This was my biyearly checkup and I'm always happy when it goes well.

And I have to say that I rechecked my son's text and he didn't tell me to "sit tight".  He told me to hang loose.  Now here I've been sitting tight all this time and nothing is happening and it must be because I have to "hang loose".  If I just knew how to do that!  When I get up tomorrow, I give it a try!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!

I did order the KN95 masks but discovered they are many different kinds. My daughter bought the ones called "fish masks" & think hers were the KN94. When I talked to Richie (Rick's son) the other day he mentioned he'd bought a pack of 30 & wore them thru a whole conversation so I bought the only ones on Amazon that had 30 & KN95. I think they are comfortable & do not rub my mouth, not too tight behind my ears & stay in place (under my chin) with no effort. Now we have 2 more grands & significant others that tested positive for the virus, it is spreading so fast our hospitals & personnel are crying for help.

Okay, sit tight, I'm heading to bed! Oops, hang loose, Jane! Congrats on the good Dr report! Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Looks like I am first up this morning. Tom stirred & didn't get back in his bed so I thought I may as well get up & fix his breakfast. As anyone that has ever been on a death watch with a pet knows, this is sad, no way to tell if he would be better off with his last moments in terror or if better to let him die naturally. He still purrs when I pet him. Sorry to be such a downer but hard to think of anything else right now. It is Wednesday morning, laundry waits, I need to trim my hair a little before a shower & washing hair. Then off to Sam's Club & clean house before #2 son comes for a visit when he gets off work. Will need a nap sometime during the day, need to quit whining, too. I really don't mope all day but when I sit down & think this is how the mind works.

And now I'll use Lloyd's expression, "Have a great day, just the way YOU like it!" Spring is just around the corner. My Surprise Lilies/Naked Ladies, what every you call them are out of the ground & ready to "spring up".

Here you go, anyone with snow on the ground... love to join you in a snow ball fight!  :snowball:  :snowman:

Good morning everyone, another cold one of 15°. Well the company that I get the help from want to change what hours I get. 2 days a week for 4 hours each day. I can barely stand some of the ones they are sending now for 2 hours. I need someone who can cook and yesterday the one I had kept playing with her hair. Would you like her to cook something for you and go to eat something and find hair? Just the thought nauseates me.

AMY  if Jane got "tight" she would not be able to do all the canning AND COOKING SHE DOES.

TOMEREADER  when I bought those new masks the ad said soft cotton and comfortable. The ear straps fit good. I was thinking it was just too big for my face but the CNA has a much bigger face than me and she is having problems with it. If I fold the bottom up a bit it stays in place better but is open at the bottom. The cloth mask is better than nothing and is washable.

JANE  hang loose but PLEASE not by the neck. My doctor is still doing phone call appointments. Cannot help that way. Glad your appointment was good.

SHIRLEY  looks like you got the same masks I bought, not cottony soft but stiff and uncomfortable. Of course with my small face it is hard for anything to fit good. At 80 pounds I think I would look odd with a fat face.

PATRICIA  with all the prescriptions I have that say no alcohol I better not try a little nip.

Have a good day, stay warm and leave the snow where it falls. The sun or rain or spring warmth will melt it away sooner or later. Stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm getting used to not setting the alarm since I haven't been having Cooper early in the morning.  Today, I didn't wake up until light was coming in the bedroom windows.  When I looked at the clock, it was 7:15.  Right after that, Cathy texted to ask me how I was doing.  I told her I'd let her know after I had my coffee!

I don't have any special plans for today.  If I had a car, I'd make a quick run to Davy's (The Mennonite store).  I'm out of some of the things I usually pick up there.  For instance, Cooper Sharp cheese for sandwiches or snacking and dark chocolate malted milk balls (my all time favorite candy).  Also, the produce is much better from there!

The dr. gave me a bunch of different exercises to try that might ease the pain from my sciatic nerves.  There were on my "after visit report" last night and I printed the out so I guess I'll be trying them out today.  He also said that walking is good for this type of pain so I'll be trying to take MORE walks!  And I'm in the middle of "The Winds of War" with Robert Mitchum and that cutie hunk kid Jan-Michael Vincent!  I finally understand why my kids would watch anything he was in back int the old days!  He sure was cute!

My son and family gave me a clock for Christmas that has chirping birds every hour. I LOVE it and the Black Capped Chickadee just told me it 8 a.m.  He didn't say so but it's still cold out there... 29º and heading for a high of 39.  Not Spring yet but soon, SHIRLEY!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  (I'm still hanging loose)  Maybe I'll start cleaning out my office today?

Good morning...if it is still morning.....I'm not so sure.  :idiot2:   I'm slow today.  We have another storm with ice, sleet, and snow coming so, of course, my head is stuffed up and I've got "brain fog" this morning.  Also, sometime during the night I got the toenail on my right little toe caught in a sheet and pulled the nail off.  It is sore and I'm having even more trouble walking than I usually do.  I can't put on my shoes but I did pull on the hospital sox with the rubberized strips on the sole over regular sox and they work fine and keep my feet a little bit warmer than if I was going in just my usual daily sox.

David has gone to the store to pick up some things we were low on.  I want to be sure we have enough food to tide us over during the storm.  If the power goes out we can eat sandwiches and I asked him to get some fried chicken at the deli.  We can always eat that cold.

Gloria, I bought the Kn95 masks, too, and I agree they aren't as soft as cloth masks but they allow me to breathe better with my asthma and allergies than the cloth mask does.  And, they are SAFER than the cloth masks.  It depends on what is important to you....comfort or safety.  IMO, having Covid would be much more uncomfortable.  I think Shirley might agree with that.  I am vaxed and boostered but the Omicron variant is everywhere here.   The schools have shut down again and some businesses have put their workers back on tele-comuting.   Masks are required nearly everywhere but there are still those people who refuse to comply (for whatever reason) and they are ramping up the number of cases.  Hospitals are full and struggling again.

Good news from your doctor, Jane.  And, more exercise is good for you....so "they" say.  My mind tells me they are right but my body says, "I hate exercise!"!

Sit out a couple of "dance" tunes, Amy, and get your breath back.  All that jitterbugging can wear you down to your sox.

Take care, All, and stay safe from.....whatever.

Good morning from an Interior at zero. There's nothing scheduled today except for some routine chores and a trip to pick up my watch. Otherwise, the same. I know my last trip out going to the store was akin to partying. It's not good when going grocery shopping with a friend brings that much excitement!😒

And after ten months of isolation with people clamoring for "their rights," I don't see that changing. "The state of Alaska reported more than 5,500 additional COVID-19 infections over the last two days, breaking the previous record for the highest number of cases reported in a single day that had last been set on Tuesday."

Good Morning,

Central Oklahoma is back in the deep freeze - after two days of being able to go out with just a windbreaker. Brrr/Grrr

Son brought me a box of the N95 masks.  Would really like to have had the ones that go around your head instead of over your ears because it's a chore to "arrange" hearing aids, glasses AND the mask straps.  I think my ears are too close to my head to allow all that behind them.  However, he couldn't find any of those.
The N95 ones do fit closer around cheeks and chin but, otherwise, I don't find the fit any different from the cloth ones I'd bought some time ago that have a "bar" on the top to pinch around your nose.

Patricia,  the Oklahoma statistics are worse than those in Alaska but I just mute the t.v. when they start talking about them.
Some newscaster complained because the state wasn't giving out statistics every day.  I wish "the media" would just broadcast them when the state does give them out instead of opening every newscat with them.
(Of course, I also wish the stations didn't have newscasts every hour on the hour from 4:00 a.m. until midnight - with the same stories! :tickedoff: )

House has been cleaned, pantry has been stocked and I'm in "for the duration".  Noticed that a new e-book has been added to my Loans so will probably be a Recliner Radish most of the day.

Stay warm and safe, Everyfriend.

Well, I was as Callie calls it, "A Recliner Radish" today.  I did absolutely nothing today except to put the last load of laundry away and look for some missing items.  I watched 3 presentations of "The Winds of War" and that's it for the day.  Oh yes, I did make a couple phone calls and pay a couple bills.

I have two cases of stuff left from my home recuperation that the hospital won't take back and I've been calling and calling recommended places to see if anyone wants them.  No one does and they all recommend other places that might.  I've now called so many places that they are starting to recommend the places that I started with.  It's a shame tha no one can use this medical stuff.  I really hate to toss it.

Now I'm ready for the haystack!  There's a visiting nurse coming tomorrow morning then she'll be back next week to check me out of the program.  Then I'm finished with all that.  I guess that means I'm my old self again!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

We have chilly temp of - 16° this morning. Snow was dealt with yesterday and I do hope no dance today. Three days of dancing has tuckered me out!!! Neighbour called last night.....seems his day wasn't as good. Both his snow blowers laid down on him and his brand new truck is in the garage to see why there is a burnt rubber smell. He switched the plow back to the old truck and needs to borrow our snow blower to finish off his customers. I will be looking after their pets today..love doing that! :smitten:

Will take hubby into town to pick up brad  nails and then home to carry on with the day. I did start a new quilt yesterday so may work on that!

Patricia, did I read some where that you had a trip to emerg? Too early for me to look back.  Are you ok now?

Jane, what about calling nursing homes maybe they can use what you have?

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special Good Morning to you, LLOYD!  It sounds like a good day for you to stay in!

I'm up and attem already.  I have my bed stripped and the the first load in the dryer and the washer filling for the second load of blankets.  I'll have a nice clean bed tonight.  As soon as the washer is filled I'll be taking a shower and getting ready for the nurse's visit this morning!  After she leaves....I don't know what will happen!

My car is still loafing in the driveway but I did make arrangements for someone to look at it as soon as we can get it there.  I have to wait for my son for that!

Note to AMY:  Nursing homes are referring me to vets and that's where I started!

The day is started!  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Up & moving, hardly call it "attum".  Tom slept in the other end of the house last night, by a furnace vent. Callie in the same area but Tiger in the basement. I got 5 hours & 4 min sleep so a little better than some nights this week. Cat check, Tom sleeping sound in front of another furnace vent, tummy full, but Tiger & Callie haven't gone over to their bowls to check on food so far.

I'll pick up son & wife at the airport about noon & still need to run a couple errands after delivering them. It is COLD, last I heard 8° with chill index well below zero. Spring is just around the corner..... sure it is............. :-\

Up and coffee. Temp is right at freezing and dropping. Snow started but is supposed to stop a bit later.. Have Doc appointment at 2:30 so hope they keep the roads clear.  It usually takes a couple of weeks to get an appointment but because I just got out of Hospital they squeezed me in. Doc's office said no way for Friday as it is always very busy.  Only time will tell.
I'm enjoying the Horseshoe Curve train cam that was posted.
Everyone, - KEEP WARM.

Good morning, minus eleven presently, but we're heading up to zero for a high. Tomorrow's high will be plus 22 with a chinook blowing in the afternoon. Next week is forecast to be in the plus thirties until we drop back again into the single digits on the twenty-eighth. I'm predicting mayhem because snow with possible rain mixed in, is expected. This winter, the weather is as erratic as everything else; it's a toss-up.

Amy, I'd become lazy and ate something I shouldn't have. I knew better but had a McDonald's child-size shake. My panicked friends gave me my first ever EpiPen shot on the way to the hospital, and I got a lecture and another ER bill. I now have to realize I can't be dumb and play around.

I just found this very apt quote by H.H. Monroe.  "The young have aspirations that never come to pass, the old  have reminiscences of what never happened."

Son just called, they are stuck in Dallas for about 4 hours, connecting flight canceled. He sounded a little bummed since they had to get up so early to start out! Not the way we like to end a vacation. :'(

Google just said it is 11°  with wind chill of zero. That's up from half an hour ago. Good news with your doctor appointment, Rick. Careful if you have to shovel snow!

I'm hungry but not lunch time.... should be doing laundry & doesn't appeal, been below freezing long enough that any at risk pipes might have frozen solid. So far that's never happened at this house but we had one "window well" at the house west of town that I had to cover the window with an extra thick piece of carpet at times like this. A few times strong winds would blow the carpet away (no matter how I wedged it in) & a water pipe that ran past that window would freeze. Some things you never forget..... That house didn't have a basement, sat on top of a hill & wind even worse than here. So I gripe!

Sorry about the ER trip, Patricia. At least you can get help with an EpiPen, I'm even allergic to what is in those. My youngest son is supposed to carry 2 of them at all times but he says he just makes sure NO sesame seed/oil in anything he eats. His reaction was so severe he swelled everywhere internal & external even after taking Benadryl to stop it. Shame-shame. I do know how good those small strawberry shakes are at McDonald's but can't have them either, gets worse all the time as I get older.

Patricia, --- BE CAREFUL.  I'm sure you don't need that caution, but maybe the stressing of it will help warn others.
At least three times I've had brushes with Anaphylaxis . All stimulated in different ways.  Scary and not fun.  I'll refrain from the details unless someone wants to know.
Roads seem clear so will attempt trip to Doc. While roads are clear, there are black ice warnings.

Thanks, Shirley and Rick. I first discovered my allergy and analeptic shock when a lunchtime Hormel microwaveable spaghetti dinner sent me on a quick & expensive ER trip. I'm allergic evidently to a chemical added to food to prolong shelf storage. It's similar to a bee allergy that builds over time. It's also (chemical-related allergies), the fast-growing type of allergies.

I'm not supposed to eat anything processed, convenienice, fast food, or microwavable packaged foods. Since then, I've had two analeptic attacks from a Starbucks where the salesperson "forgot" to use soy rather than milk. Starbucks fired the worker and paid my ER bill. The third was from an ex-friend who thought I was lying to seem special? She assured me there were no mixes or packaged ingredients in HER homemade meal and went on her merry way. She's still bitter.

Last fall the doctor put me on an anti-inflammatory diet; basically, one our grandparents and theirs followed. It's probably the same as quitting smoking; I'm still learning not to be so stupid.

Good morning everyone, just about freezing and raining. Forecast last night said a mix of rain/snow and there is a bit of white on the black parking lot.

LLOYD  they say everyone dreams but if I do I never remember any.

AMY clearing the heavy wet snow is back breaking work no matter if by shovel or snow blower and I did my share of the shoveling over the years. So nice not to have to do that anymore.  Hmm now you have me wondering what your mind conjured up with the phrase "hang loose".

JANE  I almost bought myself one of those bird clocks but lost the address for where to send for it.  I used to have those Chickadees in my bird feeder all winter. I used to get a lot of Cardinals there and have not seen one since I moved here.

PHYLLIS  that Omicron is terrible here and even all the shots and booster is not keeping it away from some people.  I am getting wary of some of the CNAs I have been getting, they do keep their masks on but a few do not head to the bathroom sink to wash their hands when they come in and get upset(?) when I ask them to wash their hands before they do anything. One insisted she wanted to wash them in the kitchen sink and I said no, food is prepared in the kitchen. I am getting bad with the hand washing and what they do in here.

PATRICIA  bad here, too. They  now have some of the National Guard here to help with the testing and giving shots. If I did not need the help I would stop the CNAs till this clears up-if it ever does.

CALLIE  with the news I turn on local news mostly for the weather and block out all the rest.

Have to get off here. Cna is here and cannot do much when this one is here. The rain has turned to snow.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good afternoon, I was here this AM but late. Was starting to post wem phone rang and CNA was here. Posted but did not take time to see if it went through. Now I saw that someone else was posting AT THE SAME TIME.
Just went and posted it now so you can see I did not just try to make me feel better.
The CNA was a little better today, at least stopped playing with her hair. Rain turned to snow and grass, roof and cars were covered and now the sky is blue and the sun shining.

JANE  last time I had surgery really was when I had my right shoulder replaced. They had a machine filled with ice that kept my shoulder just about freezing.  I wonder by keeping it that cold I never felt any pain. They gave it to me to take home and when I said I did not want it they said they would just throw it away. So home it came and when I moved here it was thrown away. Pretty bad back before Covid when they couldn't take the tinke to clean/sterilize it and use it again. No wonder a hospital stay costs a fortune.

RICK  only Horseshoe curve I would like to see is the one in Arizona part of Colorado river I think.  Of all the pictures I saw of it there was no train to be seen. Yours must be a different horseshoe. If I could remember how I would post a picture of the one I am talking about.

PATRICIA  thank God I am not allergic to anything that bad to need a hospital visit. Glad you are OK now. I dislike package food and frozen TV dinners because of all the chemicals noe because I am allergic to them. I used to cook big meals and freeze everything in containers for TV dinners that I could eat. Cannot do that anymore.

Finally caught up to the last post.

Have a good evening and sleep great.

The weather Gods were with me. Snow/sleet stopped, the sun came out, and the roads dried. My son went to the doc with me and to our surprise he spent about an hour with us.  Maybe other people got scared off by the weather forecast. End result - Doc thinks the Cellulitis is arrested but says too much water in my leg. He had all my hospital records. Stronger diuretic for a few days. I think I can live with that. My mind is more at ease now and sure I'll sleep well tonight.

The temp here is nosediving and now at 20° F now and going down.

I'm ready to hit the haystack!  It's been a long day in the house and no matter what I do, I sooner or later, get a bit bored.  Today I did more laundry and a little cleaning, some necessary phone calls, and watched a movie!

AMY, nursing homes were back at the beginning of my list and they led me to "I forget what" but whatever it was, they didn't want them either!

PATRICIA, take care and try to remember what you can't do!  I know that's not an easy thing to remember as we get older!  And sometimes we just want to "climb up on that chair and change a light bulb".

RICK, sounds like you got some good news!  YAY!!

Now I'm leaving you all!  My eyes have entered slam shut mode so I'm giving in to them.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I do like to hear good news, Rick (and Jane before). A relief when a doctor has a cure for what ails us & doesn't mention "surgery". Hopefully Jane's is in the past.

Time for bed, been a busy day with the kids' connecting flight being canceled/delayed 4 hours so my pick up delayed as well & I don't have a thing to show for my time. I do have to get out & find a funny birthday card for my friend, 10 days younger than I am. We usually spend all year looking for the funniest card possible. The one I got from her this week tops what I already bought so I have to look for one funnier.

Sweet dreams & God Bless... too tired to think tonight.

It is supposed to be middle of the night but laundry has to be done sometime! I've been awake since before 2:00am (listened to radio news in my bed). Sorted clothes in the bathroom I dress in since the floor in the utility room is taken up by litter box & training pads. Yes, PADS, because Tom has trouble climbing into the litter box so I put 2 of the largest training pads on the floor near the litter box. ::) Kinda hard to walk around in there, along with the different detergents, softners, bleach, etc. I can reach the lowest shelf of the built in cabinets above the washer & dryer but only the front row of stuff. I sure do gripe a lot, don't I? Don't answer that!!!

Lloyd, we are retired and can get up or go to bed any time we feel like it. What I keep telling myself. You mentioned flat tires on your motorhome, mine now has 4 brand new ones & 2 that have made one trip to CO & 2 trips to MO. I was shocked to see the condition my tires were in after having one go bad on the way home from CO & had to stop in Dodge City. Took photos of them & scared myself at what could have happened!  I think I really am partly to blame because it is overloaded by the time I pull out with a full tank of gas & full tank of water, as well as all the extra stuff my son & I take to play with when camping. I have never had it weighed.  :o

The older son goes a couple days before, sets up his camper in a campground north of Poncha Springs & then meets us at the Walmart in Salida & we go up to Mt.Princeton campground where we have reservations. The boys delight in figuring how to watch DVDs on a sheet inside the little fold down Flagstaff camper, take solar panels & generators to charge up batteries for night movies.....Then oldest one's son comes & joins them (tent) & pretty soon we will have a nice crowd around. My oldest son goes early so he can try out all his new toys before the rest of us get there. Good fun. The boys do a lot of hiking & exploring & then we hop into Andy's car & go into one of the little towns to eat a noon meal. I usually fix breakfast & we cook out our evening meal. When the crowd arrives we do all of our cooking at the campground & all pitch in to help. Sure beats doing housework!

So that's where my mind goes when I want to "think happy". Back to the laundry room.....

Way too cold for me to want to go out today. Right now it is 11oF. It was 9oF when I first got on the computer.

Today, I am waiting on my monthly package from Amazon. I got two things yesterday delivered via Amazon truck, but the delivery via the USPS, for some reason they couldn't explain when I called, got flagged as undeliverable. When they checked, it was there on the pallet waiting to be delivered and the label was intact.

I still need to get up to the clinic to get some blood drawn, and I still need to get my booster shot. With all the goings on in December, it got put off. I hope to get both of these done this coming week.

Good morning...

Back into the deep freeze this morning with a temp of -40 ° yes that was minus 40!!

Picking up a script for hubby this morning and home to carry on chasing dust bunnies.

Jane, maybe phone your Dr and talk with his nurse ,she may know of someone that could use what you have??

Rick, love reading good news!! Take care of yourself.

Gloria, today is a double geemogotchie day or better yet keep inside when one can. Just need to bring in a load of wood and that is it for outside work today.

Phyllis, I think I will make your baked custard in the IP today. have some fresh raspberries to go with it.

MarsGal, I will take your 11° ...-40° is not nice!

Patricia, thank you for the webcams. Will enjoy them when I get a break.

Lloyd, hope you found more zz's. Are you just about done shelling  the nuts?

Shirley, what we don't do for our pets . Babe now has a step stool to get into the vehicle. Sometimes she will fool you and hop in no problem but most of the times she will put her front feet in and I have to lift the rest in for her

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe...keep warm too!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a frustrating one for me.  My car is still stuck in the driveway and I NEED to get it working.

And, AMY, the nurse at my Drs. office also works for the hospital that delivered the stuff to my house, she knows they can't take it back and her first suggestion is the veterinarian.  I'm going in circles!

I have stuff to do and I HAVE to find a way to get my car to the repair shop!  I hope everyfriend's day is better than mine is promising!  Sorry about the complaining but it happens!

Good morning from an Interior at seven above and heading for a high of eighteen with perhaps some light snow.

Good morning Lloyd!

Hi Joanne, I had my booster in March, but I still go out with masks and observe safety rules as some didn't care, and we are in the triple digits regarding new cases locally and in the state.

Thank you for the cam links. The Nautilus had several interesting videos that I watched this morning.

Oh, Amy, do I feel for you as I know those temperatures! I hope you have a day or two before rising to a better temperature!

Hmmm...yes, custard with raspberries sounds good. The other day I stocked up on those plus blueberries and blackberries.

Farrah has gotten more demanding the more I stay home, insisting on pets and treats and just about crowding me off of MY bed and off the couch. She follows me from room to room but yet still projects that she's in charge vibe. 😼

Jane, is there anyone who can tow your car? Probably a silly question and one you've already considered but had to ask.

Good morning everyone, no CNA today and I celebrated by sleeping till 10 this morning.Oh I wish I did not need the help so I could sleep when and how long I need. 11am and 13° but feels like -1°. First thing I did when I got up was turn the thermostat up and it is still running.

PATRICIA  I will send those links to my SIL, I know he will enjoy them. With Tuscan being on the southern end of Arizona maybe he will get the idea of going there on a trip just for that train. They are both so content where they live now they have only been back to San Diego 4 times for Christmas and the one year they missed was because of Covid and not crossing state borders. They have not taken a real vacation since moving and feel like they are on a vacation all the time now.

RICK  that was a nice long time to be with your doctor.  We used to have a doctor here who made sure his appointments were well spread out. He would talk with his patient and put them at ease before getting down to business. Now one is lucky to spend 10 minutes with any doctor. Glad no one in my family has had cellulitis, bad enough my Mom passed diabetes down to most of us and 2 sisters ended with pancreatic cancer.

JANE  you are so used to getting out in your car now you are getting "cabin fever" without Frankie stopping by and having Cooper there. Now you know how I feel some days cooped up in here. No car and unable to get out. Something I don't wish on anyone.

3 hours later...........
My oldest son just left, came for a visit and he sure can find a lot to talk about.

SHIRLEY  I used to enjoy camping, not a lot of housework and even my ex pitched in to help a little. Cooking easier, too, Simple food tasted better cooked outside.

AMY  deep freeze here, too. Feels like 3°so above zero now and the sun is really shining bright from a beautiful blue sky, the shade that always reminds me of my Mom's eyes. I Have my geemagotchees on and I am not going outside either. On the second floor the tenants say their apartments are so warm they never turn their heat on but with the wood floors I have the floors are always cold so feet and lower legs are always cold so on days like this I have on woolen knee sox over the geemagotschees  then have fleece pants on legs and fleece lined slippers on and am just about comfy.  My daughter has a ramp now for her dog to go up and down instead of the stairs. Better on his short legs, Chihuahua jack russell mix. he is now close to 15. Only small dog they ever had.

LLOYD  how many more walnuts do you have to hell? I would be tired of that job by now.

Think I better get on with my day and get a few things done. With the short supply of CNAs I get no help on Fridays and it set me behind talking with my son for 3 hours.

Enjoy the rest of the day and stay safe and healthy.

All day & only 2 loads washed & dried. I've cleaned the floor around the litter box a couple times and 2 other spots where Tom didn't make it to the right room. The saddest part is he starts purring when he hears me getting their food & can smell the fresh eye of round roast chunks. I did get them a package of hamburger at Sam's this week even though they don't like it very much. I am not sure what they are doing to the hamburger but the texture is different & the cats noticed right away. They all like dry food at times and clean out their bowls of salmon... as long as I smash the little round salmon bones. They can lick around them & leave in the bowls, all 3! They will eat a little tuna as long as it is in oil, won't touch if packed in water. Callie usually likes to stay outside until dark but she was on the step to come in so here she sits, on a furnace vent. Had one bump to 33° dropping already, cloud cover but radar not picking up anything around here. Need a quick nap while cats are all sleeping. Keep busy & keep warm!

This has been a day I don't wish to repeat. Neighbour called and asked if I would let the dog out, she had her hubby up in emerg.  Not sure  of the outcome as they didn't find anything but sent him for blood work and xrays.
Temp is taking a dive down to -20 ° at the moment. Fire on in the garage/shop and one  on here plus oil back up so everyone should be warm.

Baked custard, raspberries and whipped cream went down well..

Amy, sorry about your neighbor. Not a good time to need any ER or hospital care with so many different types of germs going around (including Covid). My friend's sister has Covid again & all the shots. Her husband has Alzheimer's, both in early 80s.

Back in the early days of SeniorNet (& this place) we used to start planning a party, bus trip or whatever to cheer us up. I'm smiling at myself to think of a part of the world we would all WANT to gather right now, pretty cold, volcanoes erupting, earth quakes, snow, ice, fires, Covid  :o  ::) ....  I'll find a bus big enough to haul all of us if someone can plan a route. Everyone bring their favorite food. I'll take the first hitch at driving, got a lead foot but so far no tickets or accidents, not even a dent backing up. We change drivers when we need to stop for gas, okay? The copilot will be the one checking phone maps or paper maps, drives me nuts to watch a driver looking at their phone all the time! I have Garmin in my RV but OnStar NavSystem in the little car... Also have a Magellan hand held GPS as back up, the TomTom I had was supposed to have "lifetime updates" but that didn't mean MY lifetime, just lifetime for the TomTom!  All of a sudden it said it was too old to update.... took care of that. I personally prefer to have the state roadmaps or just buy a Walmart atlas & I'm good!

How about I make a big pot of chicken noodle soup... I think that's probably one of my family favorites. With the nice paper bowls that we can burn instead of the old styro types, kind a soothing nourishment for the first day out. I use the Ream's egg noodles & boil enough chicken to have my own broth & chicken salad on the side. I use a lot of herbs & spices & shredded carrots & onions for added color. Now someone else can take over...........

This was one of the most boring days of my later life!  I hate not having Cooper hanging around and then expecting Frankie to be by to pick him up!

I'm in for the bus trip, SHIRLEY.  I'll make a big pot of my famous vegetable soup!  It's time for that anyway and we can use the paper dishes for that.  It's a complete meal in a bowl and everyone who has ever tasted it, loves it!

PATRICIA, everyone around here who does towing and repairs, charges an arm and a leg to do it.  This guy where I take my car is about the cheapest and best around.  My neighbor across the street is going to jump start my car and my daughter will follow me out there and then bring me home.

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  My eyes are almost in slam shut mode and I'm ready to check out the haystack for zzzzs.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And my God bless us, every one!

Jane, that's a good idea. I wasn't thinking or stating it clearly as I was thinking more of family or friends for a type of tow. I've never driven so didn't know if that was possible. However, any way through helps.

One warning "from experience".... if someone tows with a rope or chain be sure to keep a foot on the brake & ready to stomp HARD because unless engine running, no power stearing OR brakes, & if the person pulling needs to brake fast, that car behind will roll up fast & mush bumpers together. Since Walmart delivers groceries any chance they would deliver a battery & maybe the driver/mechanic could help install? Since we are same age I'm not sure I could lift old out & new in so admit to needing someone stronger. But bet if you put the 2 of us together we could get the job done!  ;)  Veggie soup sure sounds good, thanks!

I woke up before 5:00am, always Tom on my mind even when sleeping in the other end of the house. Not sure where Tiger is/was but Callie is snoring as she sleeps on a furnace vent in the family room.  Got another load of clothes washed & ready to put in the dryer, 2 cats & me fed, Tiger always sleeps later. Still dark so I may go crawl back in bed another hour. So far I have 4 hours & 44 min sleep, only a few min of deep sleep.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This is going to be a busy day.  I have a month's worth of recycling sitting outside waiting for Cathy to come help me take it to the recycling center.  It's been collecting since right before Cindy went home to OK, when I came home from the hospital in late Nov.  One of her good friends took it back than.

PATRICIA and SHIRLEY, you can get arrested for trying to tow with a rope or a chain around here.  There must have been too many accidents over the years and now it's against the law.  The only kind of towing that's done is the kinds that tows trailers or the kidd that Repair Garages do.  NO ROPES OR CHAINS!

I have some stuff to do before Cathy arrives so I better get moving.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, 10° at 7:45 and feels like -1°. Not quite as cold as yesterday but still in the deep freeze. When my son called yesterday to see what I needed FROM THE market I told him to stay home because it was too cold and he reminded me he worked outside at times in temperatures like this and I told him he is now retired so does not to go out in it anymore. I know years back I would go to work in the mornings when it was below zero and that was expected in winter. Making me think there is really something in this global warming. Heck the world went through an ice age centuries ago.

SHIRLEY  you are right, keep busy and moving and you warm yourself up. Something I can no longer do so I am always cold now.

SANDY  I am careful with email, one thing we are told to look for is words spelled wrong in the email heading. I am good at deleting email I do not know where it comes from. Like I do not answer the phone if I don't know the name of the caller, just let the machine take it.

RICK  at least in this building we can take the elevator down to go to the laundry and hope there is a machine empty.

AMY  I hope your neighbor is OK and the trip to the ER was not serious.

SHIRLEY  Oh those trips were fun. I was new to SN and got in the time of a trip and wondered what kind of site I landed in. I remember Pat getting the chickens out of the old bus and getting it ready for a trip. Remember Martex getting us in weird places. Years before I ever thought about driving I liked going somewhere with the map in my hands and checking where we were going, the route and side roads. I am still good at reading maps.

JANE  I WAS THINKING OF a pot of my Mom's vegetable soup. All the vegetables are shredded and it is a thick soup.
Instead how about I make a beef stew? or maybe a casserole of Mac & Cheese?

AMY  trying to snow here too. Every time I look out the window I see a few flakes floating down.

LLOYD  hope you can get the doctor appointment BOUT THE HEADACHES AND NOT SLEEPING.

Better get away from te PC and get dressed before my son gets here. Pretty soon both sons will think all I have to wear in nightgown and robe.

Have a good day and stay safe.

The trip sounds like fun - IF Shirley doesn't bring the cats.  :-*  I'll bring slider sandwiches and cookies.

I remember Pat and the bus.  There were forums for various states in the old S&F and I was "in charge" of one for Oklahoma.  I remember doing a "tour" of the state by posting links to various sites in story form. That was fun.

I did get an e-mail from Mary Page that showed her entire name with the subject being "Touching Base" - all in capital letters.  That wasn't at all like the MaryPage I'd exchanged emails with so I deleted it without opening.

I'm making progress with the office shelf sorting/pitching/etc.  Off to see if I can finish another one.

Stay safe and well, Everyfriend.

We are snowed in here and I'm trying not to fuss about the weather.   ;D  I made a big IPot of Bean With Bacon soup yesterday after listening to the weather warnings.  Just threw un-soaked navy beans, pieces of bacon, some shallots and garlic seasoning in the pot, added 6-8 cups of water and an hour later we had some hearty, warming soup to eat on a cold, snowy night.  I love the IP.

We had about 5 inches here on top of ice and while it is beautiful to look at it is a mess to drive in and we had a lot of accidents on the freeways and streets this morning.  Our neighborhood street wasn't even plowed until near noon time.  But on the bright side, a very good neighbor and son just appeared and shoveled out our entire driveway.  There are still many kind and thoughtful people around who are always willing to help someone who needs it.  I'm blessed with very good neighbors.

Take care, All.

Time to rest a bit. Still snowing out will worry about that tomorrow :)

Neighbour seems to be ok, thank you for asking. Has a lot on his plate lately and the word "slow" is not in his vocabulary.

Have 2 appointments made for hubby, both are in the city and I hope the roads are good then.

It is also illegal here to tow like that also. We have CAA
and they will come and tow if need be.

Between spam in emails or  robo calls it can be a challenge at times.

Shirley, we have a little hospital here.....my friend used to say 10 beds and a morgue. If something is serious best to high tail it to the city! I had  hubby at emerg ,must of been 8-10 times but the last time I took him to the city. On my way I remembered an ambulance depot and pulled into  it . They took him from there to the city.....he had constant care on the way and would get looked at as soon as they brought him in...plus it saved the police from trying to catch up to me .. :2funny:

Will bring fresh buns and pies for dessert...

Laundry is calling..better get it done..

I forgot to say.....not up for real travel anymore so would love to take the mythical big yellow bus for a trip with friends.  I'll add the Bean Soup to Shirley's Chicken Noodle.  That should be enough to keep us all warm.

And, towing here is illegal, too.  We don't even have tow trucks now and any car that needs to be picked up and taken in for repairs is pulled onto flat bed service trucks and taken in that way.  The police get pretty snarky if they catch someone towing another car.

Well, quick note.... MaryPage, don't feel bad about being hacked.... few years ago my brother's computer and a cousin (that happened to be the computer tech for a chain of hospitals) got hacked about the same time & I did get messages from BOTH & they shut down my computer. Lucky for me a fix had been found & my son got it & brought over & unlocked my computer twice. Always have to wonder what possible satisfaction can someone get for messing with anybody's computers? Why wouldn't they use their brains to do something good & earn money honestly???

Gloria, Martex was the name I couldn't think of!!! She was the one with the goats, right? I also started about the same time & enjoyed the trips & imagination..... but mainly how good so many were with Paint Shop Pro!

Gotta run to the post office to mail a birthday card to my daughter. Taking care of Tom is a full time job this week, and not sure I am doing him any favors by not taking him in for that finally shot good-by. He isn't enjoying food as much today & almost like Alzheimer's, one hour he can find his way to the litter box & next he will have no clue where he is.

Callie, for sure he would not enjoy any of the trips with us, people scare him to death & always has. I've had to take them with me ever since Cas died (going on 9 years) and only the last trip to MO did he make it without throwing up.... nerves, didn't have to start the engine or move so knew it was not motion sickness.

Smart to have those laws, Jane, but knew a lot of folks in MO that would argue with their need to do that when no other option. Patricia, for sure a lot of people used a rope or chain to pull a car & managed to not get hurt but guess laws have to made for the dummies that don't think or do safe!

Lloyd, can't tell you how many people I've talked to this week that has trouble sleeping. Wonder if it has anything to do with the moon?  Maybe you are allergic to walnuts (as many as you have handled the last few weeks).

Amy, I bought a ramp for my e-bike like Jack had for Millie... (or was it Mimi?). My son has it now for his Great Dane to get into his new pick-up. Glad the neighbor is okay. Guess we are lucky since the ER & Hospital together & just around the bend of the river from out house.

Hey, Phyllis, I still don't have the iPot or whatever the latest is... but use the old timey pressure cooker to fix my beans. I think I will need another lifetime to catch up with the new fangled stuff. Do you add a clove a garlic to your beans? I do love ham shanks in my beans but hard to find lately. Hocks are so much fatter. Bring 'em on! Gotta run!

I remember Martex; she was also on ThirdAge,(She invited me to SeniorNet along with Ginny.), Martex purchased some goats after her husband died, and she named some of them after us!

I wonder what happened with little angelface? I cannot remember whether the sheep or goats had so many young? When I was still on Facebook, Martex and I were in touch, but after I left, not so much.

Does anyone know what happened or who has heard from Ginny lately?

Rick, IPOT or Instant Pot is a pressure cooker and easy and SAFE to use. Cooks food in a short time. I make baked beans in 1:30 min...no soaking the beans. Great for soups any type of meat or vegetable I did a baked custard yesterday in 10 min.. Another great appliance is an Air Fryer. Once you cook bacon  in it you will not go back to frying, same with a grilled cheese.

Phyllis, we had the leftovers of the baked custard today. When I told hubby that this is it he said.............so this is Custards last stand......... ::)

My Mom had a pressure cooker. An old aluminum Mirro, with a jiggler weight on top.  Often cooked bottom round roasts in it. "The boys" (brother and I) were often left to do the potatoes in it. Made great potatoes for mashing with butter and milk + S&P.  I still have that pot in the attic but not sure the gasket is still good.  However, my wife bought a new stainless steel pressure cooker but never got to use it. It too is in the attic. I still have little to no incentive to do much. Just my son and I here now.

us.

This got me to recalling the Pot Roast and potatoes & gravy. Making me hungry,  It was definitely tender, and tasty. Cut on plate with a fork. I think we did carrots in with the potatoes.  I think I'm working myself into a cooking venture.  :smitten:

Rick , yes cut the meat with a fork. You can also throw in onions, turnip, butternut squash along with your potatoes and carrots if you like. Lots of recipes on line too! If you like spaghetti ,it cooks in 12-15 min. No boil water cooking the pasta, just throw you pasta on top of the sauce with or without meat and cook 12-15 min.there you have your dinner. all in one pot less clean up to do. :)

Rick, cook the bacon first.  That brings out the flavor better.  Then add all the other ingredients.  BTW, the Instant Pot is not used on top of the stove like the old pressure cooker.  It is electric and doesn't need your attention to regulate the heat.  Just put everything in, put the lid on, set the timer and walk away. So easy and safer, too.

EDIT....... Ignore the above.  Just realized Amy's links told you the IP is electric.

I recently gave away my six-quart slow cooker that I had used for meal prep. Last year I donated my microwave, tabletop grill, and larger stew pots. The microwaved food had a tinny aftertaste, as did the slow-cooker, hard to explain but somehow tinny. I much prefer using my oven or my large convection bake toaster oven.

I use these following two several times a week, a six qt. Dutch oven and a 3.6 cast iron casserole pan. Both have a ceramic inside lining.

Otherwise, I have a large manual wok that cooks almost instantly. I have a 12 inch cast iron skillet, a six-inch cast-iron skillet, and a 12 inch cast iron grill pan. I have one large and one medium anodized saucepan and two commercial-sized baker's half sheets. All my cast iron cookware is from Lodge.

I have a 1.5 qt crockpot/slow cooker that I use for busy days. I simply no longer prep, cook and store as I used to. It's no longer practical, and with my plant-based anti-inflammatory diet, I eat more fresh foods.

I admit I'm having issues with this diet, especially giving up dairy and red meat. However, some of the plant-based meats are good.  And compared to last year; I'm up by six thousand dollars in ER & medical bills.

Tomorrow I might try to venture to the attic to see what I have. But I think it's a stove top pressure cooker. I don't think that matters.

I hope you realize you're reminding me of past food goodies. While looking around the net for pressure cooker stuff I recalled another favorite of mine. We rarely had it after I married because the kids didn't like it---- Pork chops and dried Lima beans (in pressure cooker). A good hardy, stick to your ribs meal.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 15, 2022
Post by: Shirley on January 22, 2022, 10:15:07 PM
Rick, I still have that old pressure cooker & replaced that gasket many times before finding & buying a steel one that no longer has the "dinger" on top but does ooze out the steam. Back in the 60s & 70s a lot was said about cooking in aluminum (bad for the kidneys) so I started using the cast iron & stainless steel with copper bottom, remember those? I also found a small electric Presto cooker that was "3 meals in one pot" and except for self timers, pretty much the earliest instapot. I use it still for potatoes & always cook carrots in it.... I use the heart of a stalk of celery in my carrots & gives them a fresh flavor. Only have to bring up the steam, it does have a dinger, carrots are tender that fast. I add a tablespoon or more of brown sugar & let them bubble a tad before serving. My kids would eat a pound or two & still will.

I've bought a few of the newer appliances but they are sitting on a shelf in the basement. Kept going back to the old stuff. I have a cast iron Dutch oven with rack that was my mother's pride & joy, a wedding present about 100 years ago. That comes out for roasts, for sure, or a roasted chicken. The rest of my cast iron is Lodge, Patricia.....  The way I look at it is, a couple times a week I will fix something that tastes good for several days, either freeze half or eat until gone. Got anything better to do?

I've been on a jag of pork steaks, juicier than chops & I make a gravy in the brownings, pour off the grease, add butter & flour to brown, then add water & S&P. Some of my bunch has a problem with soy & it has been added to everything (even Crisco, all the stuff I used to use EXCEPT real butter) so gravy is made with butter.

Time to shut down, just lost a paragraph.... no clue why it disappeared! Sweet dreams & God Bless.

It was 18 deg. when I woke up at 7 a.m. but has warmed up to 33 now.  Some more melting of icy spots on the roads should take place.  Our neighborhood street is clear but some streets had melting from yesterday and re-freezing overnight.

One last comment on cooking appliances...I would cook with cast iron all the time, if I could.  But, when the pans are filled with food they are too heavy to lift in and out of the oven.  David will do that for me, if he is around, but if he is busy elsewhere then I have to do it and I can't.  My strength does definitely not move mountains, as I used to think it could.

I know what you mean, Rammel, about finding the incentive to cook.  Once in awhile the urge to cook will strike but now, most of the time, I only cook because I have to keep us from starving.   :)

Speaking of that, I need to go get our Sunday brunch on the table.  Fresh fruit and nuts for a starter and blueberry muffins for the main dish.  We don't eat heavy breakfasts here and never have but I usually do a little extra for Sundays because then we won't have the "big" meal of the day until late afternoon.  Only two meals on Sundays gives the cook a little free time.

OK....that's enough from me about cooking.....for now.

Take care, All.

Maybe quantity cooking and freezing the rest in meals for two could be the answer.......cook once eat all week. Make many different dishes and you're good to go.

Good morning, a gloomy one with frost on everything. Been reading and remembering those good times in SN. Seemed odd to have a goat named for me but all of us who posted in the Missouri forum had a goat named for us. I remember when Martex got mad and stopped posting. Agnes from NH did a thing for my birthday and Martex got mad because she did one, too, but being on the east coast Agnes posted it earlier because of the time difference. I felt bad for both of them but I never  thought anyone would do anything for me like that and there 2 of them did. Martex stopped emailing me, too, Agnes and Mare lived on opposite sides of a mountain and never met each other.

PHYLLIS  where my daughter now lives off the grid every one on that old ranch helps each other without being asked. Just the way people lived years ago. We have so many new people in this building now they see someone struggling to do something and walk right by them.

AMY  there is a hospital if Kingman-the biggest town near my family in Az. and my daughter said it is not much more than an emergency room.
For surgery most in the area head to Phoenix to the Mayo Clinic. That is a 3 hour drive one way. Los Vegas is much closer but most have health insurance that is good only in Arizona.

Been thinking what to bring on the trip, how about lasagna? My sauce is always home made,  always made with native tomatoes every year and frozen. I never buy the one in jars.

PHYLLIS  I took a container of 15 bean soup out of the freezer an letting it thaw slowly in the fridge. Will be a few hours before I can eat, had breakfast late.

SHIRLEY  I have thought for years it is a pity those who hack into computers do not use the brains God gave them for good instead of bad. I still miss working with PSP. Until my grand gets the cd player that did not come with this Dell I cannot even install it again. He has been working harder than ever since the company has set up where they can have group lessons on the computers. At least they are not sending him out of the country anymore. Being on salary he is always on call.

AMY  wish I had more counter space in my kitchen, if I did I would have an air fryer and an IP. Before I broke the handle off the cover of my pressure cooker I used to for beans, 1 hour start to finishand they tas ted as good as if they baked in the oven all day.

RICK  your pressure cooker sounds like what I had. One of my brothers gave it to my Mom in 1942. She never used it, afraid of it. She gave it to me when I got married. Even after I could not use the cover anymore I still used the pan for years. After years of cooking for 5 plus some of my family stopped  by at meal time learning how to cook for just me was hard. I did make too much and would put left overs in containers and freeze. Made my own TV dinners. I sure liked not having to cook on Monday working all day. Always go home tired on Mondays, sane job I had all week but maybe because on week ends I could stop and put my feet up if I felt like it. I enjoyed cooking but loved baking, especially pies. I gave all the cast iron pans to my daughter, some are really old, my Mon used them. She uses them and takes care of them, no trace of rust on them last time I was at her home. Every time I see the commercial for the Emeril Lagasse cooker (does/cooks) just about every thing I get the urge to send for it Does not cost anymore than the counter oven I bought several years ago and never liked.

LLOYD  looks like you slept better last night. Glad for you.

PHYLLIS  right now at almost1pm it is 30° and feels like 22°. The reason I gave my cast iron pans my daughter was because even empty I could not pick them up. I am not able to pick up much weight at all anymore

AMY  not missing just very slow getting started. Only 3 hours sleep last night and fighting to stay awake now. son picked up meds ar pharmacy then home and have no idea when he will be here. would most likely I would just fall asleep and the phone would ring.

JANE  wonderful news about Frankie. I can see the 2 of you when you get together for the first time again with big hugs.

Have a good day and stay safe.

JANE  all the cooks in here are getting to me because I cannot  even stand to fry an egg anymore.

Gloria, I have beans cooking in the Instant pot now..I am also tempted to try Rick's lima beans in there , love them with butter! Lasagna sounds perfect.

Ok Patricia, where are you?

Good late morning from the Interior at 9:56 AM. I turned off the alarm this morning as I had a hard time getting to sleep.

Gloria, I feel the same about reading about Jane and Amy's endeavors. I've always been more about the meat and potatoes style than knowledgeable about canning and preserving. Then when I was on my own, I discovered meal prepping and would cook all Sunday to fill up my freezer for the week.

I kept a contents list on the inside freezer door, so I always knew what I had. I only heated it after work, which was lovely as I could come home anytime between three am and three pm and have a homecooked meal after a shift and two taxi or bus rides. There is no reason to meal prep, and I eat more fresh food, so my freezer isn't as full.

Jane, I'm so happy for you and Frankie!

We still have about 1000 new cases daily, and most of the hospitals are doing selective care with nursing staff becoming ill themselves or calling out. We've lost nine that I know of in this building, although they're not publicizing them. The first was a sweet man from one of those seven apts on the first floor. He would constantly stop you to say hello and ask you how you were even if he had just seen you.

He would get so excited about his birthday and tell you his mother said he still looked so young and did you agree? He was easily six foot three with a healthy figure, so everyone always complimented him on how young he looked. Then his mother died, the state took guardianship, and Covid came. I remember being so angry, and he was only 59. Covid also took all of that group of men who gathered all day in the first-floor break room to gossip and play cards all day.

I'm right behind you, Amy. I'm composing my daily book.    I started at 9:56 and finished at 10:25.

Do you know if Agnes is still alive?

I know that Martex hasn't posted out on
Facebook for a year or so.

Sandy, I saw that someone mentioned Martex in 2020 as still alive. It's been several years, perhaps 2013-2014, since I heard about Agnes.

Not much to say tonight except Tommy has died. I've expected it for days & it has been a nightmare of him not giving up. Andy was over at the time so helped me get him into a comfortable size box with a new white bath towel to wrap around him. He seemed to be unconsious but moaned and moved a little for the whole evening until just now. The other two have been to see him, act like they understand & both went off, Callie back outside & not sure where Tiger went. My youngest son wants to come bury him down by the river in the morning, where his baby sister was buried 12+ years ago. I don't think I will do this again, next time one is dying I will take to the vet & hope that is the right choice. They fear other people so much that no matter how weak they will fight to not have anyone else around.

Jane, happy Frankie is free of Covid. My oldest gr-son that tested positive & had a good case, is okay & back to work. He had all the vacs & boosted.  None of the rest of the family caught it so all are okay. The other gr-son & significant other ended up NOT testing positive so Dr said theirs is a flu bug with sinus infection they "shared". Dare we hope it has reached a peak?

Better post, so far I've lost a paragraph again & the curser keeps popping around. Kids are texting me so brain not up to par~~

Amy, my kids were texting while I was trying to post while ago so I came back in to see that I didn't say anything TOO off the wall.  I probably could have used some advice about this day, my other pets have never struggled like this so kind of unnerved tonight. I'm not one to go to pieces, always had to be the tough one & have 2 more either same age or older. Have you had to take pets to be put to sleep?  Even when LaurenKat slipped out of the RV in CO, we searched & I even went back a couple months later to check with Humane Society, etc. but knew she would never be taken alive... but I didn't have to watch her struggle to die. Too much, one thing to find a furbaby or feathered baby dead but don't want to stand/sit & listen to their struggle. Except, for MY peace of mind I wanted to be sure he heard kind words as long as he could hear. And maybe you can give me pointers/suggestions before I deal with Tiger & Callie. Thanks...think we are both kind of softies when it comes to pets. :'(

Good morning..

Got to like these warmer days -13°F at the moment. Errands to do in town this morning then home to work about here.

Gloria, I think there are smaller air fryers and IP.google them and see what is out there. I know I enjoy both of mine.

Patricia, heard on the news last night we lost a 19 yr old to that darn covid. It certainly is weeding out the population all over the world!!

Jane, is Frankie and Cooper coming today?

Shirley..I have to admit I hate that last ride..but our pets give us unconditional love and that is the last loving thing we can do for them.

We stay with our pets, hold them talk to them and cry like a baby...

Better get

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here this morning and I don't want to know how cold.  We had snow from around 4 in the afternoon until after 11 last night.  It looks like the main road that I can see has been cleared.  That's the one the school bus has to travel.  I haven't looked at the other side yet.  That one is a dead end and I think it's on the bottom of the road crew's list.

SHIRLEY, I understand how hard it is to lose a pet.  My heart is with you.  I still miss my doggies and it's been two years for Annie almost 5 months now for Mickie.  It's still hard not to call them when it's time to go to bed!

Frankie and Cooper came over for supper last night and spent the night.  I didn't even get in here after they came!  We had so much catching up to do and I think we talked constantly until it was time to go to bed.  Cooper pasted himself to me and only left to eat and go out in the yard!  He even slept with me instead of Frankie!  I loved it!

Frankie has an interview for a job at our local hospital today and it looks pretty good.  She has a friend working there already and she used her for a reference.  She texted Frankie to tell her that they've been talking to her and it looks good.  This would be great if she gets it.  It's right around the corner from my house so she'd be saving a lot of money on gas and the the time to get there would be a lot less then her current job.  A couple prayers might be helpful!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone. I was here yesterday but could not post or see my name at the top or sign in. Had to use Facetime to talk to my daughter yesterday, glad I keep that phone charged and not for using that thing. I dislike talking on a cell phone. Beginning to think I should get hearing aids. Had a light dusting of snow overnight. Now I have phone calls to make.
No news here so will try to post and hope to get off the phone before the CNA gets here. I sure dislike their coming early. Messes up the routine I have had for several years. Oh well, that's life and at least I am still here to aggravate everyone.  :-\
Have a good day and stay safe.

I'm sorry, Shirley.  I know how you feel...we lost our much loved mini-dachshund, Charlie Brown, more than 40 years ago and I still miss him.  He was the most loving little dog I had ever had.  I never got another pet....didn't want to go through that heartache again.  Hugs of sympathy for you.

Cold again this morning but sun is shining.  I'm not functioning very well today...brain fog.  I'll go eat some breakfast and hope my brain will start working again soon.

Take care, All.

EDIT:  Have you seen the latest "must have" appliance?  The Instant Pot Dutch Oven.  Looks intriguing but think I'll pass this time.  I have too many things sitting on my counter and stored in the cupboards, as it is now.   :idiot2:

Merry Monday,

Janie, so happy that Frankie and Cooper are back "in residence" (part-time, anyway) and wishing Frankie Good Luck with the possible new job.

Shirley, so sad to learn about Tom Cat. I know these last days have been hard for you and you will miss him.

Didn't go back to check but I think - was it Patricia? - mentioned a toaster oven in the Instant Pot/Air Frier conversation.  I couldn't do without mine, either.  Was glad to find toaster-oven size baking pans in the Miles Kimball catalog and have several small casserole dishes that fit perfectly.

I'm making progress with the office shelf sorting/organizing.  Will have a large heavy trash bag of "stuff" to be shredded/recycled.  Fortunately, there's a place here that takes large amounts of that sort of thing.

Sunny and temperature supposed to be in the high 50's today.  Then we're back in the deep freeze.  Patricia is right in saying "Anything Goes".

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

We're now at plus 38 and still rising to an expected high of plus 40. However, the clouds that hold the heat in are leaving ever-widening patches of blue skies so I doubt we'll go that high.

At 2:12 we're now at plus 41! Unreal for January!

Finally made it to the attic. The new (unused)Pressure cooker I have is a "duo Pressure Cooker made by FAGOR.  I believe it was a QVC presented item when my wife bought it. It came with two sized pots and one interchangeable cover - with controls built into the cover. It's stainless steel and for stove top (not electric). She was always afraid of pressure cookers - as so many were. I read over the instructions once but must do it again.  Will learn better with "Hands On". My guess is my first attempt will be the Bean Soup that was posted here on S&F. I also found a Braun Immersion Blender up there and some other neat stuff.

Phyllis,
About that bean soup you mentioned a few days ago. How long does it stay under pressure, and is there any indication about the pressure? As I indicated above I do have a pressure cooker, but it's not a IP (No auto features).  But I think if I can get in the ball park I can "adjust" as needed  :2funny:

Hello Everyfriend!  I think I'd like to root around in Rammel's attic and maybe take a couple things home with me!

Frankie is back to work tomorrow and for how long neither of us knows.  She was offered a part time job at the hospital today and she asked them if they had any full time ones available.  They said they do and they sent her the info to apply for full time.  She did that today and now we wait and see what happens.

I'm off to the haystac,.  I have to be up early tomorrow to see Frankie off to work.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm thinking about going to bed early, THINK about it every night but usually about 11:30 pm when I finally crawl in, cover up & say my 4 short prayers that put me right to sleep. I've always been able to go to sleep fast but after being on my own for going on 9 years, Fitbit will tell me for sure how fast sleep comes. I focus on each word, prayers we all learned as children & take less than 5 min to mentally say & I'm doing good to get the last few words in.

Thank all of you for the kind words, I really was shocked at the whole day, helpless feeling at not being able to make his passing more peaceful. I will get a pup when Callie & Tiger are gone, I need something to take care of. Today has been surprising, I didn't realize how much time I spent fixing food for Tom & the girls, but it was Tom that was hungry all the time. Today Tiger has not eaten any of the foods Tom liked best, Callie did. Tiger has been sleeping in Tom's bed & doing what Tom liked to do. On the other hand I'm guessing that nature teaches mothers to give up their attachment to their young & Callie is spending more time out than inside. I so miss him but more relieved it is over.... at this time I think I will opt to find a way to make it easier for them, even if I just ask a vet to give them a shot to let them be asleep during the time it takes for their body to shut down. I did print 3 copies of the Rainbow Bridge, first time I saw the link to original version to print, for each of my kids since all 3 have kids with pets & for sure those grands will be a mess when they have to deal with pets deaths themselves. Like I told my kids, "it's part of life & worth dealing with for the years of happiness each pet has been".

And life goes on, I'm getting a kick out of Rick's venture in the kitchen. I think that is the brand name of the pressure cookers I bought for my kids. I used mine yesterday to cook a pot of beans & enjoying having some to freeze for more meals. I have some microwave "glass" bowls that are large enough to run hot water over the bottoms of the frozen plastic ZipLoc tubs, pop the beans into a bowl & cover with those plastic covers for that purpose (sure saves cleaning the microwave every time).

The roast sound delicious, I've never done one in my pressure cooker as I use the cast iron Dutch ovens for that. Two of my brothers could cook better than their wives & my father bragged about "all the guys on a camping trip would help with the cooking". They used pressure cookers in the higher elevations & cooked a lot of beans & chili...

Micheal, last gasket I found for that big old pressure cooker was at a repair shop, was SO surprised to find it. I even used to make meat loaf in the pressure cooker because the old one had a rack on bottom to keep from scorching & let the grease drain out, but stainless steel won out, even though the meat didn't sit on the aluminum. Good luck.

My scrambled thoughts for this day. It was comforting to hear from each of you dealing with pets & how much they are still missed. My sister just adopted a large poodle that a man took to the humane society where her daughter's friend works. They are a perfect match & has made a big difference in my sister's days (she was 91 Christmas Day). She says the dog is just like her, not interested in being outside so she opens the door to fenced back yard & it is back wanting inside before she walks away from the door. The man gave them $400 to find homes for his 2 dogs, he couldn't take care of them anymore. I suggested she have the Humane Society contact him to let him know the one has a great home.... if me I would invite him over to visit the one she has, but she didn't like that idea. My sister & I are not at all alike.  :-\  ;)

Rick, I let the pressure go down & check my beans & add water if needed, I like mine "mash/soft" so build up pressure again & again until the soup is the way I like it. I think I learned along the way that it takes different times depending on if the beans are fresh picked or end of the season.  One time with the old one I walked past the stove & flipped the dinger off without thinking & bean soup sprayed to the ceiling & ran down the wall behind, never saw such a mess. Never did that again!

Quote I even used to make meat loaf in the pressure cooker because the old one had a rack on bottom to keep from scorching & let the grease drain out, but stainless steel won out, even though the meat didn't sit on the aluminum.

The old Mirro also had a basket with seperators.
Shirley, Is the one you used yesterday the old Mirro or Fagor? If it was the Fagor what setting (High or Low) did you use?  And HOW LONG (for a start).

JaneS - You'd love to rummage around in my attic. All sorts of pots and pans, dishes, glasses. I think I could start a small housewares shop with all the stuff.

I haven't used the old one since getting the new.... Fagor is what I think I got for the kids. I brought the lid over on one I used yesterday, brand name is Rapida, got it on sale because the book was missing so I Googled/using duckduckgo/ & discovered it is Fagor Rapida... so that's what a sharp memory I have.  :2funny:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=fagor+rapida+pressure+cooker+manual&t=chromentp&atb=v1-1&ia=web   And if that doesn't work you can Google yourself!  ;)  My lid only has 3 settings & one is for steam. It has a green "switch" lever on the handle to lock the lid for pressure. A little orange button pops up when pressure builds up & that has to go down to remove the lid. Doesn't sound like we have the same model & I didn't see any links except to e-bay to find them now.  I love mine so give it a try, can't do more than blow up.  ::)

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been complaining about how this computer is so slow and this morning I figured out what was making it slow...it needed a battery in the remote hand piece.  Now it's working fine.

SHIRLEY, I don't know if I ever said how sorry I am that you lost your little guy.  I am sorry!  I know how that feels.  I still sometimes call my little girls when it's time to go to bed or I think they might want to go out.  I miss them something fierce and I know you will miss him, too!

I have to get dressed and take Cooper for a walk pretty soon.  He's finished begging my breakfast and that means his next setting will be at the door.  And sometime this morning, I have to get a shower and get ready for a visit with the Dr. who did my surgery.  I haven't seen him since I opted out of the radiation and I'm wondering what he'll have to say about that!

Also, I think they'll be calling me to pick up my car sometime today and I'm hoping that on our way home from the dr. appt will work.  Cathy could drop me off then and it would save someone a trip!

Yesterday, Frankie ate my last pint of veggie soup.  I have 2 quarts left of last year's soup and then I'm finished.  I have to start assembling the stuff to make more.  I don't think I've EVER been out of Veggie soup!

Rick, if you hear a noise in your attic, it's probably just me, rummaging around up there!

And I better get this day started.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning

A wee bit of snow here  maybe 1 1/2" so nothing to worry about.
Need to make sure work is done today  and a meal prepared that will have leftovers for tomorrow.

Mycheal, both Shirley and I have snow blowers and would make short work of the 5" of snow. Mine is a 29" 3 stage cub cadet and can blow the snow over to the neighbours. :)  Google parts for  the make of your pressure cooker . I do like Shirley's idea as they make keep parts for older cooker. I do like the idea of you making the meal, as I think all of us that cook appreciate a meal we didn't have to prepare. Hot dogs would be perfect too!!

Rammel, I believe we all were intimidated by a pressure canner/cooker and some did have a mess on their hands...or ceiling . :2funny: As Shirley said wait for that button to go down. The Instant pots (electric) have a built in pressure gauge and once I put all the ingredients in I can walk away from it......I won't go far when I am using the one on the stove though. You will master this, just takes time.

Jane, that is good news  now to get the full time job for Frankie!!

Patricia, we are -10°F at the moment......bet your temp will pass it!!

Gloria, one day closer to having Yvette back!!

Phyllis, made your rice pudding with arborio rice in the IP turned out really tasty!

Callie, we have a shredder called a cookstove...once in there the paper doesn't stand a chance! ;D

Better get on with the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning everyone, snow overnight again, about an inch this time. 2 nights in a row is snowed here if it keeps up like this we may end up with some real snow, not the teasing we are getting.
Think I am going to make an appointment to get my ears checked, the TV is starting to sound garbled to me. Maybe if I turned it up louder I would hear it better and then the neighbors would complain and the witch would be knocking on my door.

AMY yes I know you have had enough already this winter but I still enjoy looking at it and wish I could still get outside to enjoy it.

LLOYD  looks like the overcast here is getting lighter, maybe we will have sun before the end of the day. I never went to any of the bashes in SN. We have never met.

JUst had to go back to yesterday's posts, wonder how I missed all of them.

SHIRLEY  sorry about Tom but I think you knew it was coming. I know what it is like to see a pet cross the Rainbow Bridge.

JANE  would be great for Frankie get that job closer to home and you.

PHYLLIS  if i had more counter space or place to store things I would most likely have a lot more appliances. With a toaster oven and dish drainer on one side of the sink and a microwave and Keurig on the other other is no room for anything else. The other side of the kitchen has the fridge and stove with a foot between them and a foot on the other side of the stove.

I better get moving because CNA will be here before I get dressed.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Rammel, I don't think I can give you a good answer on how long to cook the bean soup.  I haven't used a top of the stove Pressure cooker in years and I believe the stove top and the IP cook under different pressures.  My last stove top cooker was a BRAVA.  I don't remember who made it.  I can only tell you that in the IP I set the timer for 50-60 minutes.  I check the beans (I don't pre-soak them) and if they aren't soft enough (we like them soft and mashable, too) I put them back in the pot and cook for another 5-10 min.  As Shirley said, not all dried beans are the same.  The older the bean the longer it takes to soften.

Can someone else here who maybe still has instructions for a STOVE TOP pressure cooker answer Rick's question better?

mycheal,  Our little Charlie Brown died at age 13, too.  We had him from the time he was weaned from his mother until the day he died.  Those little dogs worm their way into your heart, don't they? Was your little girl a mini or standard?

I'm running late, as usual.  Take care, All.

Rick, I am posting this here so you can see the timing of the beans. Hope this helps. Made me hungry!

Pressure Cooker Bean Soup.

1 pound dried navy beans, sorted and rinsed
2 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, cut into ½ inch dice
2 cloves garlic, sliced
½ teaspoon Kosher salt
1 ½ pounds smoked ham hocks (or a hambone and some leftover ham)
8 cups water
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Salt to taste
Minced parsley for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
Sort and rinse the beans: Sort the navy beans, removing broken beans, stones, or dirt clods. Rinse the beans and set aside.
Saute the aromatics: Heat the butter in the pressure cooker pot over medium-high heat until it stops foaming. Add the onion, garlic, and ½ teaspoon salt. Saute until the onions are softened and browning around the edges, about 8 minutes.
Pressure cook the beans: Drain the navy beans, rinse, and add to the pressure cooker. Set the ham hocks on top of the beans, then pour the water over everything. Lock the lid on the pressure cooker, and cook at high pressure for 30 minutes in an electric PC, or 26 minutes in a stovetop PC. Let the pressure release naturally, about 20 minutes. Remove the lid carefully, opening away from you - even when it's not under pressure, the steam in the cooker is very hot.
Shred the ham hock, season, and serve: Remove the ham hock from the pot with a slotted spoon or tongs, and set aside to cool. Ladle 2 cups of beans into a blender and puree the beans, then stir back into the pot. (I use my stick blender for this step.) When the ham is cool enough to handle, shred it, then stir the ham back into the pot. Stir in the fresh ground black pepper. Now, taste the soup, and add salt until the soup tastes sweet and full of body, and you can just feel the taste of salt on the tip of your tongue. (I needed 2 teaspoons of kosher salt to get the taste I wanted.) Serve with a sprinkle of minced parsley on each bowl.

Good morning in the Interior with plus 25 to start. Tomorrow we begin creeping downward again. We've had close to an inch of daily snow, but nothing sticks around. All the past heavy snow has been either removed or shoveled into submission—nothing new here. I finished laundry yesterday and general tidying as well. Today, I hope to work on a vexing graphics filter issue.

I had quite a collection of cooking appliances at one time but beginning in 2013, with retirement, I started decluttering and today have only some cast iron or anodized pieces and some crockery. I do have three past Christmas presents I've never used and won't, but I won't donate them here as most are also contributing. I no longer can or meal prep as I'm eating less and more fresh. I've been on a fresh or frozen fruit kick lately and experimenting to see what I will eat.

I'm allowed white meat such as chicken or pork, frozen or fresh fish, fresh or frozen vegetables, turkey, tea, or coffee. Not microwavable, dairy, fast, convenience, or processed foods. Last grocery shop, I purchased some plant-based meats and have yet to try them. My hair, skin, and nails have never looked better or stronger but I miss many of those banned foods. However, a quick trip to the hospital over McDonald's brought it home to me to quit being childish.

The reason for our warmer temperatures, is winds whistling through the close mountain ranges. We have three sets.

According to Melissa Kreller, a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, the warm winds have traveled to the Fairbanks area all the way from the Alaska Range.

"Right now we are in a southerly flow through the Alaska Range," Kreller explained, "and that's what's creating our Chinook winds, which are our down-sloping winds. So it gives us nice warm weather across the area, extending from the Alaska Range all the way north. Or when it's very strong, as far north as Fairbanks."

Normally, the winds need to be traveling at high speeds to be able to reach as far north as Fairbanks, and these current winds are going at extremely high speeds.

"What happens is, we get some southerly flow through the passes which creates kind of these warm, strong winds through the passes," Kreller elaborated, "and it goes down the mountains, and warms us up. So basically we get this warmer weather just because of the winds going through the passes, and right now we're experiencing anywhere from 70 miles per hour to 80 miles per hour. So it's a stronger Chinook wind, which means our temperatures here in the greater Fairbanks area are warmer."

However, these winds are already beginning to diminish - and as they do, the temperatures will begin to drop once more according to Kreller, "We are expecting the winds to diminish through the day today (Monday) and through the evening. So, we're going to see our warmest temperatures in the morning in the greater Fairbanks area, and it will be steady through the afternoon, and then slowly decrease in temperature as our winds start to diminish. The high wind warnings out for the Alaska Range go through 3:00 a.m. for the eastern Alaska Range, and then for the Denali area through 6:00 a.m."

My thanks to all contributors of info for my venture into the world of food.  I will likely blent the data and come up with something good. The time and pressure were important items to me. The ingredients can surely be varied to ones taste.

I have mastered the Pork Chops. -- Something both my son and I like.

Shirley - I googled the info you gave here about your Pressure Cooker. The manual looks just about the same as the one I have, Might be some minor differences if the model is different.  Looks like they have several models, even one for canning (not for me).

Went over most of last years bills, receipts, bank statements this morning. Shredded those not needed and set aside receipts and other inf that may be needed (Tax, etc).  Murphy's law says I'll need some of the disposed stuff soon.

I'm not ready to think about taxes yet, Rick, gives my tummy the shakes to have that go thru my brain. Ever since Cas died I've been trying to organize all those files, bought new ones & as I attempt to switch from his to my way of thinking, something else comes up & here I am with stuff in both files & a lot more on top of the desk that is waiting to go in one place or another. So far I've muddled thru 8 years but I'm always afraid I'll miss something.

When Cas was alive we filed quarterly taxes & he wanted to teach me how to do that & I refused. Fact was I knew when he died the "income" would cut in about half the way he set up the pension & Social Security, not a problem but I was pretty sure I could forget the quarterly & my tax guy agreed. I give the gov a lot more than I think they deserve but nobody listens to me! Still scares me to think about taxes.

And now with all the talk about cooking I am hungry for a bowl of sweet rice.... I know the milk will give me issues but gonna have some anyway. I did buy some Minute rice & cook a little longer so the milk & sugar absorbs, add some cinnamon on top & there's my protein & dessert all in one. I've enjoyed the pot of beans but added some salsa on top last night & was NOT the flavor I wanted. Ever since having Covid a year ago I can't eat what doesn't sound good, don't think I'm being spoiled but food won't go past the mouth if the head says "no".

Patricia, I copied the paragraph you described your new diet to send my daughter. With her Crohn's she is finding any time she eats all those same foods your body doesn't like she has a major upset. Since she got her Crohn's from both grandmothers, not surprising all 4 of her kids have it to some degree. The oldest (son) has had some surgeries & next (daughter) is on that awful med that keeps hers in remission but who knows what damage it will do. The younger two have learned what to eat & the youngest is super sensitive about gluten & soy. She takes her food with her where ever she goes & doing pretty good.

Have nothing to show for my day, both cats have slept & didn't even want much to eat all day. We were supposed to get some snow but radar kept showing it falling apart as it got near Wichita. We need moisture SO bad. I am going to do some house cleaning tonight since I slept off & on all day. Hate to run the sweeper with cats in the house but they are going to have to listen tonight!

Hello Everyfriend!  I read everything and found it all interesting!  You all do a lot.  I had a good visit with the Dr. today and a good visit with Cathy to and from the Dr.  He says "Everything looks good".  There's still a lot of numbness and he said that's more or less permanent since they had to cut some things that caused that to happen.  I had a room full of people who gave me the once over and some good advice!  And I have a return appt made for 6 weeks from today.  And I guess that's going to be more or less permanent too.

I came home and ate and slept the rest of the day away!  Cooper will be here early tomorrow morning so I'm going to hit the haystack soon.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Gloria, I can't help but admit....no matter how much snow we get it always looks beautiful. One can help but admire how it graces the trees and hydro line too!

Better scoot

It must be a cat thing, Shirley. When one cat goes off his feed, the others follow suit. They still insist on me putting it out for them, but then they just look at it and walk off. Well, sometimes they will look at me a little askance before walking off.

Yesterday, Sue came over this side of the river to get her driver's license renewed. After that we went over to the Perkins Restaurant for a nice lunch. I had the tilapia and shrimp dish with rice and grilled asparagus, and Sue had grilled salmon with rice and green beans. We both had one of their desserts. Oh, but the calorie listing on that Raspberry Lemon Drop was higher than the rest of my meal.

It is 14oF here now and not expected to get over 28oF today. They are teasing me with over 45oF temps the second half of next week.

Good Morning, Everyfriend!  I've been up a while and we had 3º overnight!  Around here, that's COLD!  I still didn't get my car back.  They said they were going to call yesterday afternoon and I told them I wouldn't be here so they said they'd call today.  Maybe they'll call before Frankie comes for Cooper and she can drop me off on the way home!

Right now, I have to go get dressed and take him for a walk around the block.  It's only up to 5 so far and I'm not ready to do that but I guess he is.  He's sitting by the door!

Today, my plan is to make a decent meal...maybe a casserole.  That means having the oven on and that helps to heat the house.  I'm not dumb!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Not as cold here as it is for some of you but we are being warned of another weekend storm.  However, latest report is putting it closer to the beach so that minimizes our chance of heavy snow here in the NC Piedmont.  But, they are still promising about an inch and cold temps.  Going to be worse for you all up north of here.  Stay warm, stay safe, keep well.

Take care, All.

Hello. could not get in this morning and once again our great Bubble came to the rescue. Had to sign in  but it would not take my password. This is the second time in a week I had a problem getting in.

AMY  we have that storm here for Saturday, too. The weather guesser said a foot or more and then he said it has not formed yet. How can they predict a storm with a foot of snow when the storm is not even around? Like days of old- will believe it when I see what it is like when I get up in the morning and look out my window.

Not going to say any thing more. Was one of those days I was on the phone most of the day even when the CNA was here.

Have a good night one and all. Oh one new thing, about 4 this afternoon someone knocked at my door. The witch and the new maintenance man. He was carrying a big box and she handed me a small box and a printed paper. It is a Covid test kit. I have not even opened it or read the paper with it yet. Tomorrow is another day.
Take care and stay safe.

Good Early Morning Everyfriend!  Yesterday was a busy and a difficult day and I found that I slept most of the time I tried to watch TV.  So when I got up and shut off all the lights and turned down the furnace and made sure the doors were locked, I didn't even look in the office.  I just made tracks for the haystack and I had no trouble going to sleep again. Now I feel rested!

I see by the temp register that we made it to 0 overnight!  That's COLD for this area!!!!

I think I might have turned into an "Old Lady On Foot" now!  The garage called with an estimate on what it would cost to fix what is necessary to bring my car up to the point where it would pass inspection and be ready for a new sticker.  The estimate is about three times the car's total worth right now!  I simply can't afford that.  My son is going to look at the estimate and then we might run it by the guy who does his store vehicles to see what he thinks.  But I'm not holding my breath!

LLOYD, if I lived closer to you, I'd drop by and see if you'd sell me a bag of your shelled walnuts.  I could use them in my fruit cake this Fall and it would be more like my mother's.  I can remember my Dad shelling black walnuts from the tree in the back yard for her to put in the fruit cake.  I'm not that ambitious and I use regular walnuts or pecans in mine.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

Temp is a little better sitting at 0° F at the moment. I was so tuckered from yesterday ,I did read the posts but then sat and relaxed! Picked up my jars at WM, they have gone up for the 3rd time since Christmas. Took a chance and  drove to Costco  and the parking lot didn't look too bad so whipped in and out of there in jig time. Parking on the street where Kyle goes for appointment had me worried but when we got there, there was only one car and we got the parking spot right outside the door!! Came home tired but we did have a perfect day.

Today hubby goes for his 4th covid shot and I am going to vacuum pack some of the items we bought yesterday. Tidy up and maybe sew a bit.

Jane, with what you would spend on fixing, might be better put to a little car with low mileage for you. I just had a dandy of a garage bill so know how it hurts. I just say I am glad the problem is outside the house and not in....eg no one dealing with any sickness.

Mychael, that is chilly! Would love to see cardinals, in groups. I have only seen 2 in my life time...one at my sons and one here, beautiful bird. Have always thought I would like to see cardinals and blue jays together but not sure they would get along as both are territorial.

Gloria, to the south of us they did get more snow! Now it is very dangerous when poking ones nose out to drive into the line of traffic. The police are asking homeowners to take the tops off the snowbanks so vision of on coming vehicles can be seen. The joys of winter.

Better go check and answer emails.......got behind on those also!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Amy, I was surprised that Kyle needed a 4th shot but then realized that because of his health concerns the doctor wants to be absolutely sure that his vaccinations are still helping him.  I expect that all of us will need another booster shot, too.  In fact, I just read in the news that now there is yet another variant showing up beyond the Omicron variant.  I think Covid and vaccinations for it will be with us always.  Just like we get vaccinated every year for Flu.

Don't have time to talk this morning.  Grocery pick-up this morning and I still haven't eaten breakfast.  I get behinder and behinder every day!

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone. almost 10am and 12° but feel like 3° and the sun is shining bright in a blue sky. How deceiving it is looking out, looks nice and warm but I will stay inside where it is warmer.

AMY same here with humidity and snow. What is predicted for Saturday they are saying with be heavy snow harder to shovel where the light drier snow if not too deep can be cleared away with a broom. That is the kind I didn't mind clearing away in the mornings before heading out to work.

JANE  thank God you are doing so good after that surgery.

AMY I hope I never lose my love for snow, not playing in it any more or even walking in it but love how it looks when newly fallen before anyone comes along and walks in it and then the plows and cars make it look dirty. Love when it covers the bare branches of the trees and the evergreen branches can almost touch the ground when covered in snow.

PHYLLIS  last night local guesser said we could get 12 -18 inches of snow and the storm had not even formed yet. Joan really named them right when she called them weather guessers.

LLOYD  my son in law has a cousin who lives in Texas and has a pecan grove, she has a cracker that cracks them right so she get the halves, no pieces. she sells them and she makes enough that she never has to look for a job. She sends my daughter a 5 pound bag every year and will take no money from her.

MYCHAEL  last placed I lived I had a window box at  kitchen window but could not grow anything in it so started putting birdseed in it. Had all kinds of birds and before a storm many would be at the feeder together-filled i several times a day then, the Cardinals and Bluejays and all the little ones would be together. Other times would be one kind at a time. My favorites were the Cardinals, love the pair that were together. At times he would pick up something, maybe a seed that he thought was better than the rest? and nudge his mate and feed it to her. Never saw any other birds do that. I could sit at my computer and look out the window and watch them. Have not seen any since moving here but sure can hear crows now.

Yesterday afternoon just after 4 there was a knock at my door, the manager(witch) and maintenance man were there. He had a good size box and she handed me a sheet of printed paper and a small box. When I saw the writing on it I thanked her and they went on down th e hallway. It is a Covid test  kit for 2 tests. I was surprised the company went to the trouble of getting those for all of us. I have mot opened the box yet and wonder how I will make out trying to test myself.

It has taken me almost 4 hours to get this cone, CNA was here and talking too much. Have a good rest of the day.

Take care or yourselves and stay safe.

Gloria I doubt if we will be going to Texas soon, but if i had her address I might make a trade with her some shelled black wallnuts for some pecan's. when I was in the service staciond at white sands Missel range we had a friend that had a larger than a normal city block pecan grove and his son had a dupclat in another part of Lascruces Newmexico. he and i worked at the same welding shop on the bace. He kept us in pecan's. and after i was discharegd an came back to MO. they would send us 10 Lbs every chirstmas until he pased on to heaven. when we still traveled we would go visit his widaow. she has pased now also and we have  Lost touch with his friend. sad we all do not stay in touch with friends like we should the world has gotten too fast.

Rick, just thought I'd get back to you about the Peet's "Major Dickason Blend" coffee.  My Kroger store had a sale on Peet's, plus I had another $1 off coupon, so ended up paying only $5.97 for the bag (usually sells for $11.97).  I brewed a pot of it this morning, and Yay! it is all it's cracked up to be.  A wonderful cup of coffee. (It is a dark roast, in case you're wondering).  I am thoroughly enjoying it, a nice change from my Folger's Classic Roast.  Oh, yeah, I bought the ground coffee, didn't want to mess with grinding beans (and mess is the operative word there).  I guess my Krups grinder is outdated, makes such a mess, and you have to do several grindings to get through a 10 oz. bag.  By the time you've "brushed" out the grinding cup, you have tiny grounds all over everything. I have to put down a whole section of newspaper to catch it. Guess I'm not a purist after all, LOL!  For all you "coffee heads" out there, do try Peet's and Major Dickason's Blend.

Good --- I'm not alone liking a good hearty cup of coffee.  I know what you mean about the coffee grinders. I don't think they grind as much as cut - like a blender. We have one but never use it. Tried once and that was it. I use the pods because I only do two cups a day (usually) and I'm the only one drinking Peets. My son has his pref's..

I just looked at the clock and it's only 8:34!  I can't believe it!  My body feels like 11 p.m.  I'll probably go to bed early tonight.  I cleaned all the floors in the house today and it took me two tries to get it all done.  I sorry to say, I wore myself out.  I'm not used to doing the floors any more.  My cleaning lady (Frankie) usually does them for me but I have to get back in the groove.  When she gets the new job at the hospital, she won't be available to do my cleaning.  It's a full time job.

And it's pretty certain she got it.  Her friend who works there told her they asked her if she knew what size shirt they should order for her!  Sounds like she's in!

I have a lovy little doggie hanging around here.  He seems to know when I need him to cuddle and drop a kiss on my hand or my nose.  He's such a sweetie!  But he's also a little beggar!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

There was a dusting of snow when I got up this morning. It started snowing again in the last 15 minutes. We are not supposed to get much.

Oscar and Lucy got some kind of bug. First Oscar was not eating, looking like he had a headache, and stayed put. He got better after three days, just about the time I started panicking, and then Lucy stopped eating, pretty much looked out of it, and slept most of the time. She recovered last night, again, after I started panicking. She cannot afford not to eat or get her Thyroid meds. Have no clue what it was, but so far, Shan has not picked it up.

I bought several new pillows and pillow covers (both washable) for the sofa and the bed. Next I want to replace some of the more ratty blankets and throws. They do help keep little claws and the snots from damaging the furniture and my person. Washable is an absolute must.

Has anyone ever used homeopathic nose-drops for their pets? I wonder if they really work. I am currently putting a granulated L-lysine/brewer's yeast formula into their food, but it seems to have lost some effect after several years.

Snow is expected here tonight and it is cold.  The weather people don't seem to be getting too excited.  They are saying that it won't be as bad as last weekend.  Hopefully, just snow and no sleet or ice this time.  Either way I'm stocked up and ready....I think.

Take care, All.

We had about 1 inch of new snow last night and the temp this morning was -14°F. Bright sunny day but one to look out at and hope not to be out in!!

Lots of little jobs waiting for me today.

Phyllis, I sure hope this is the end of it for boosters. He a to go to the hospital for an MRI and having that booster
makes me not as concerned for Kyle.

MarsGal, read the reviews on this product, that  may help answer some questions for you.

Shirley, how are you?

Patricia, we are still freezing here...need an Alberta clipper to change the weather.

I was up early this morning to meet up with Cooper!  He arrived around 7 and I was dressed and ready.  I really slept well last night!

So far today, I've fed both me and Cooper, took Cooper (and me) for a walk, did a bunch of stuff on the computer.  My son was supposed to stop by after dropping my Gdaughter at school but it's snowing here so I'm guessing the school is on a delay and that means he won't be stopping because he has a store to run.  And without my car, I can't go in there and talkd to him and the phone is no good because he needs to hang up if a customer comes in or the store phone rings.  He's not an easy person to have a conference with.

I'll be so glad when the decisions are made about my car.  I feel like I'm in limbo right now!

LLOYD, the "slam shut mode" for our eyes is my thing.  I got it from my Dad and remembered it back when I was having trouble keeping my eyes open.  He used to as us if our eyes slammed shut when we woke up from a nap in the car.

The haystack also came from me.  Daddy used to tell us it was time to "hit the haystack" when we were growing up and I used to use that on on my kids and I think they used it on theirs.

Gotta go get something done!  I haven't figured out what that will be yet but there's plenty hollering for help!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  LLOYD, save me some hazelnuts.  They're my absolute favorites!

Good morning everyone, Had a hard time getting to sleep last night again. Now here I am with my coffee and cannot stop yawning. My son called yesterday as I was reaching for the phone. Of course I jumped. I was going to tell him not to even think of coming here Saturday and he was calling to tell me he would come this morning. If he follows his Saturday routine he will be here in 45 minutes. If I read and not get gabby I should be finished reading in that time. Woke late and did not  hear the weather for today but it is a gray gloomy morning. I wonder how close to being the storm they re saying this storm will be. Used to be every time the guessers predicted a bad storm we would get a couple of inches.

TOMEREADER1  lately I am wondering about my Keurig and the Kcups. I don't remember the brand name of the coffee I have is, my CNA gets it at a discount store and a Colombian coffee, have enjoyed it till the last box of the cups I opened.Very weak, like colored water. My older son and DIL have  taken many cruises in the Caribbean and of course had a lot of different coffee on some of the islands. He now orders 2 different beans and grinds them and mixes them together. I enjoyed 3 cups of it on Christmas. I have been thinking if I gave him the money the next time he orders the beans if he would get me some. Knowing him he will get the beans, grind them and give it to me and not take the money. I don't like that. I am too used to paying for everything I get.

AMY  I did see cardinals and bluejays together at the feeder I had but that was before a storm when they were getting their fill before staying in their nests while we had snow. The cardinals looked small next to the bluejays.

BILL was here and now on his way home. He came with goodies he made this past week. Eggplant parm and stuffed shells. He sure is a good cook, those are 2 things I never made and enjoy. He had help with the shells, he did all the work except his wife filled the shells. Wonder if she sat down while doing that hard job.

PHYLLIS  I read someplace that we may end up having a shot for Covid every year like we do with the flu shots.

LLOYD  it is said nuts are healthy for us, some more than others. Heck I will eat nuts just because I like them, all of them.

JANE  no white stuff falling from the clouds here yet. The weather guessers say tonight around midnight until same time on Saturday night. At times falling at the rate of 3 inches an hour. If that is in daylight hours I will be sitting looking out at it.

Almost noon and with waking late and my son here I still have not had breakfast. Better have something to stop my tummy growling at me.

Have a good day and stay safe.

I think of my mother saying, "it's too cold to snow" and wonder if that is true. I never questioned those old sayings, just parked it in the brain to pull up later. What we hear about your eastern storm would scare me into stocking up on all the necessities, Rick!

Amy, I have cardinals & bluejays at my feeder, even a pic thru the window of a male feeding his lover. Wonder if that one is in my gallery. I baby-sat a nest of cardinals when we lived in the KC area of Leawood and raised a blue jay for 7 years. Raised a couple starlings & meadowlark as well as fostered a few others over the years.

Gloria, one of my sons does most of the cooking AND cleaning plus being retired & working 2 jobs and watching their grands many hours every week. Got to admit it does rub me the wrong way now & then, that his wife doesn't seem to appreciate all he does. Did your ears burn yesterday?  I was talking about you. Friend was laughing about a birthday card she got, of the Flintstones... and that always reminds me of the photo you posted of your son-in-law standing inside the frame of the car with engine removed. Funny how some images never leave & that is one of them!

I've been swinging from cleaning the bedroom Tom stayed in the last few days & the family room & kitchen the all mess up. Got half that room done but needed for it to warm up enought for Callie to go outside to finish the job. Still cold but sun is warm so I booted her out & sat down at this computer which is right by the door. Not much wind. Have the sweepers ready to roll, but notice the bird feeder in front that I see from the kitchen sink, is empty so will bring dumpster from the street (trash day) & fill the feeder. I really want a nap but think I am getting lazy.  :-\

Lloyd, I remember using Clorox to get those brown stains off my fingers after picking walnuts. I think the hardest part was getting the tiny pieces of shells out of the nutmeats. We used to pick them up every fall until Dad got a tree started in the back yard & then he & the squirrels would fight over them. He always saved a bushel basket full for them & would put some out during the winter. Before he did that he discovered they found their own way into the "garage out back" and were raiding the baskets themselves!

Wishing all a Fantastic Friday (hey, Callie, you here?)

Good morning everyone, plus four here now, but we're due to drop into some severe minuses next week. Amy, I think your clipper chased my chinook away!

There is nothing new here but basic chores and perhaps some PSP play now that I got my filters working again. I posted a few last night that I enjoyed doing.

Joanne, perhaps their systems have gotten used to the yeast, is that possible or a possible brand switch?

Shirley, it takes moisture and humidity to make snow, and if you have dry conditions, you won't have any snow, just cold. Your mother was right. Before climate change, we rarely had much snow, but January and February could see long stretches of minus thirties and even minus sixties and some seventies. That has changed, and usually, we may have perhaps a day of being minus thirty and perhaps two or three of minus twenties.

The more moisture we have, the more storms we have, such as the one over our holidays. Ideally, we have plenty of cloud cover that holds in the heat. I find our weather people to be very accurate, probably due to the University headquarters here and the space exploration supercomputer and multiple Magna-telescopes used to forecast our weather. We're part of numerous northern nations' weather and space studies, which also helps.

The only winter birds I see are ravens. We have large flocks of smaller overwintering sparrows, grosbeaks, juncos, wrens, redpolls, and chickadees, but those tend to overwinter in the scrub bush. You tend to see those in spring and fall when they break up into separate species flocks or combine into larger multiple species flocks to protect during winter. There are owls,  grouse, and ptarmigan in the woods but I never see them.

Gloria, I also slept in after a very sleepless night. Sometimes I need to stop my busy brain enough to sleep, and it is never easy! After many years of working late shifts, I'm still eating on a late schedule. I'll eat in the late morning or early afternoon and then my main meal in the late afternoon with a late-night snack. I drink my coffee black and lots of it, at least twelve cups daily. I use a dark roast and put two scoops of coffee in.  And a total of thirty-two ounces of water daily per my allergist.

I don't really like sweets in anything, and I'm more of a carb lover. There are certain foods (besides my off diet ones) that I don't keep in the house because I can't stay away from them, such as spaghetti. I grew up on fresh-caught fish and am having difficulty finding a commercial fish that I like and will eat.

Jane, my dad used to say time to hit the hay when I was growing up. My sister is ten years younger than my older sister and me, so she was barely four when we left home. Her memories are very different from ours as our folks retired during her childhood. She was quite a surprise for everyone!

Patricia, love the links & copied for my grands/great-grands to make!  Had a photo from my son last year or year before, of his grands sitting in their driveway in what looked like bushels of acorns from the tree in their front yard, a bumper year! My daughter's oldest son has a wife that grew up on a farm, loves outdoors (sadly she in a financial/book keeper type that still works part time (so in demand by her boss she sets her own hours)... while raising 3 kids & enjoying the outdoor with them. Anyway, they feed all types of birds & created a wilderness behind their house so will also enjoy. My other gr-daughter with kids live back east & they do "adventures" every weekend of all the national parks/monuments in that part of the country, so do a lot of bird watching & creating in their lives, too. Thanks, I enjoyed the links as well!

Shirley, you're welcome. I subscribed after my sister sent it to me, as this video is part of an entire series.

Dora and Alan, my friends, live on a northern foothill in a long-established neighborhood. Someone had the long ago urge to organize the community to buy a central pair of lots as a group purchase. One of their neighbors, a lawyer, set up a legal agreement as part of the purchase to preserve the two central lots as wilderness perpetually.

After they all agreed to put in the final touches, they now have a lovely spot to enjoy forever for themselves and their families. Any outsider purchasing or inheriting one of the surrounding homes cannot inherit or purchase without legally signing the agreement.

Thanks, Jean; I think his original Legos job influenced him.

We don't have bluebirds here that I know of, unfortunately.

The majority of the smaller and songbirds here are forest birds that while singing sweetly, remain mostly unseen.

I was thinking one thing & typing another. I seem to do that more often (brain & fingers not working together.) Good morning everyone. Looking outside it is all white. Looks like 10 inches on the roof over the porch. The snow is almost up to the windows of the apartment there on the second floor. Have not  heard any plows yet and only saw 2 cars go by. Of course I was at the window watching the snow. at times very fine and then a few minutes of bigger flakes. The maintenance man is here clearing the walk and the front of the building -that is in case of an emergency-ambulance and a fire truck and police car always come when the ambulance does. The CBS channel is still on the news, the Lt. Governor is speaking and it sounds like I have a Spanish channel on. Pretty sad when we born here want to hear news updates and it is not in English. Only English is scrolling along the bottom of the screen All the bridges are closed, already cancelling church services for today and tomorrow. I cannot see the trees for the thickness of the snow coming down so cannot tell about the wind. 17° here and that is not windchill.

SHIRLEY  I come across that Gary Flintstone photo when looking through old pictures. One I snitched from Photos, think it was back in SN of your ducks called Bottoms Up. Every time I come across that one I have to laugh. Just like those ducks practiced to look for fish at the same time. 2 of my 3 kids have good mates so guesss 2 out of 3 is good but my poor son is the thoughtful, kindest and most helpful person I ever knew. He does not deserve what he gets at home.

PATRICIA  I have my coffee wile her in the SS in the mornings and it san take me an hour and more reading ang typing here. I will then go get dressed for the day and then have breakfast. I will eat main meal 3-3:30 most days and then a light snack (something sweet) about 7pm. Will watch those links after I finish. I have never seen a Bluebird, of course bluejays but not them.

SHIRLEY  love seeing that Rhode Island chicken. You could call her Little Rhody. Regina was telling me someone where they live started raising chickens and wanted to give some eggs away so brought her 2 dozen eggs. She said they are the brown shells she has not seen in years, most in that part of the country are white ones. The neighbor told her she was raising RI Reds. Then she told her they will taste extra good because she is from RI. Her neighbor laughed at that.

Have a good day and stay safe.
Just looked outside again. Those windows above the porch are now covered with snow about 2 inches. More than a foot of snow already.

Good morning, minus seventeen here as we head back into the frigid minuses. I found I was wrong about some birds when I looked to see if we have either blue jays or bluebirds in this state.

We have a rufous hummingbird and a northwestern crow in the southeast, but they've never made it here. We don't have a blue jay or bluebird, but for blue jay types, we have a Steller's jay and a gray jay. Does an American dipper (partially blue) or a great blue heron count?

I've never seen a green jay, forgot to check their range. We used to see lots of Stellar Jays when camping in CO but not so many the last few years. In fact, not so many any kind of critters the last few years. On our first trip to CO many years ago we stopped at an information station & a mountain bluebird sat right in front of the car on a bush, I took a couple shots without opening the car door & thought they must be a common sight so would get better photos later. WRONG! Only one I saw that year & most years! My brother had families of the Eastern Bluebirds at his house, in central MO we saw quite a few, I love the color blue in birds or flowers!

Jean, the surprise lilies (or naked ladies) look a lot like Amaryllis blooms, 4 to a stalk & no green. Can't remember if it was my father or brother that dug up the lilies after the leaves died down, thinking that was it, no blooms!  ::) These have been in that spot for 33 years (since we bought the house, same year Mother died). I have a forsythia bush brought from another house, that outgrew the lilies so have to keep trimming it back to share the sun. In that same section of the berm is a flowering almond bush that came from the first home we owned. I've shared starts of it with 2 of the kids, oldest remembers it & next kid was born right before we sold the house. My mother had flowers that were from various family members so named for them, I had some of her "Annie's Poppies" that went wild at the house we built, but sadly, no start of them anywhere.

Gloria, I've tried all names for that chicken & so far nothing has stuck. When we were talking over the fence (next door neighbors) last week the guy had just collected eggs so insisted I take some... 2 brown & a very large white one. They offered the whole pan full but I declined, had just bought 2 cartons of 18 each. My son asked me to see if he could buy a few for his last camping trip since they don't have to be refrigerated... of course they wouldn't let me pay & gave more than he asked for. They are the couple I painted their dog because my yard guy ran his mower over their soft ground & dug a big rut in new grass. I think I sent a photo of the painting for Bubble to post, maybe?

Oh, my, better get a move on, sun is warm & not a twig moving in the trees. Need to get outside and run that generator & whatever else (like water the small trees & flowers that won't make it thru the winter otherwise). Supposed to get snow mid week ... promises-promises!

Thanks for the comments about the photos, and thanks to Bubble for posting.

Good Afternoon,    It's sunny and 70º.  Wind is a bit nippy but it was lovely to be outside for a little while.

Shirley, loved the photos. I've never seen chickens but looked out one time to see ten wild turkeys perched on the fence and sitting on the grass.  Apparently, they'd been going up and down the creek that runs along one side of the complex.  I live at the other end of the street from that area so don't know if they flew or "strolled" up.

Amy, we had Stellar jays come to our window feeder we lived in the Colorado mountains.  They are so beautifully different than the regular old blue jays I'd grown up with in Oklahoma - and that come to my feeder here.
Also had a robin that arrived earlier than it should have and perched in the corner of the feeder with ruffled feathers and a grumpy expression that said, "Why am I here and what are you going to do about this cold white stuff ? My feet are freezing!"  >:(

I always have at least two or three pairs of cardinals during the winter - and more in the summer.  Saw 5 pairs on and around the feeder recently.
Ordinarily, I'd have Carolina wrens, rosy finches, titmice and a variety of others now and then. However, a big flock of sparrow more or less took over last summer and chased many of the small birds away. Hope those sparrows find somewhere else to be this year - but I doubt they will.

I love watching the birds interact. One time, there was a female finch on the feeder with a male on either side.  She'd pick up a seed and give it to the one on her right - then pick up another one and give it to the one on her left.  Couldn't help but think that she was having herself a good time flirting with both of them!  :)

There's a pond on the complex property and, in the summer, we have a Great Blue Heron, another smaller heron and quite a few ducks. A Mama duck had 8 ducklings the same year that CA woman made the news by having 8 babies; the news referred to her as "Octo-Mom"  so we nicknamed ours "Octo-Duck."  Usually have some Canada Geese, too.  They can get aggressive when the babies are small!!!!

This morning I put ingredients for Beef Veggie Soup in the slow cooker and it really smells good in here.  May make cornbread muffins to go with it for supper.  Recipe calls for a 46 oz bottle of V8 juice so I had to use the big slow cooker instead of my quart-and-a-half one.  Looks as if I'll have enough to share with family and several neighbors.  I'd given all my jars to dil who cans and makes jelly all summer so not sure what I'll put it in for sharing.
And that's what's going on in my world.

I'm just here to say "Good Night Everyfriend".  I've managed to stay awake all evening so I could put ice on my sore nose.  I took another spill today...scraped my forehead and my nose but didn't hurt anything else.  My nose was all swollen and I looked a bit like my grandfather in his older days.  A friend suggested that cold cloths might help and I added ice to the cold cloths and it did help.  Now I'm going to sleep!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Another chilly one here but no new snow..
Neighbour is looking after the dogs while we are away in the city.

Gloria and Callie  would love to see more than one cardinal at a time. That must be a sight to see with the cardinals colouring. Callie, I looked up the Steller jay and he is rather striking with his top knot and colour!!

Jane, hope you were able to get some sleep and I would imagine your muscles are telling on you today. Keep putting the polysporin on.

Better get my city duds on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, just check and it is  6° and feel like -minus7°.Anyone outside this morning if they do not have to be is crazy. I feel bad for some of those who have cars here and are out there now cleaning the snow off of them and then shoveling out the cars and moving them to the first row. All plowed there and when the cars are moved from the second row that will be plowed, same with the third row. With the last maintenance man he had a friend that would come and clean the cars off and move them. He charged $10.00 and most with cars gladly paid it. Maintenance man cannot move the cars.

I think I might be able to get some sleep now. Plowing is all done. Must be a new man, he really dropped the plow hard after each pass. The one we had dropped  the plow so we hardly hear it when we were awake.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept pretty well last night and the ice helped my nose.  I'm going to try it on my forehead today.

My lifelong best friend moved into a care home after a short stay in the hospital and Cathy is taking me to visit her sometime today.  I'm sure she'll have something to say about my messed up face.  I'll be disappointed if she doesn't.  Me have a pretty fun relationship!

Gotta go and get ready for church.  I do it on lone for now and I don't like it as well and actually being there!  Have a good day.... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Falls can be deadly.

In fact, according to the World Health Organization, it is the second leading cause of accidental injury deaths worldwide.

We all need to be more aware of where  we stepping and
moving around (while sitting in chairs etc)

I know that I harp on this all the time.
Sorry about that.

I am trying to train my self to walk slower
and watch more carefully where I walk and where
I sit.   And even where I sleep.   Because as
we all know falling out of bed can just as
harmful as falling out of a chair or miss stepping.

I am trying to prioritize how I move and where I
am moving to,  before taking a step.

I am so sorry Jane that you fell and got hurt.

Good morning from an Interior at minus 34 and heading for a possible high of minus 27.

Jane, I agree. When I fell back in February, they told me (After a hefty ER bill) that I had sprained my left leg and wrenched my hip. And that their expectation of two to four weeks recovery turned into thirteen weeks and a loss of 31 pounds because I couldn't be upright on the walker for long. All this from a supposed simple fall. Please be careful!

And here comes Little Roadie... barreling across the back yard. I've been gone all morning so not sure how many times she checked in. Better go take her some oatnut bread.

The day went amazingly well! I think we were both surprised ,roads were not busy on the way in, parking was available and the nicest young man did the MRI.
Before we left the sky was red and we thought something was coming and it did on the way home we not only got to enjoy lots of traffic and snow!! Not a lot and now we are in and have a fire going....nice and cozy!

Jane, hope your day went well .

Gloria, there is no need for that plow driver to do that! Our neighbour will get the mouth of the drive way where the snowplow puts a ridge in the morning and we don't even hear him.

Shirley, you remind me of my little chicken Miss Biddy she would come running for treats and loved donuts!

Patricia, you are in the deep freeze now. Just think one more day and a new month begins.

Sandy, falls scare the bejeepers out of me. I have fallen and as soon as I check arms ,legs ect out I bounce right back up.....ok. maybe not bounce back up but slowly get up and home no one saw that display!

Lloyd , you sure have worked hard all your life and now is the time for you to enjoy life.

Amy, you said, "Patricia, you are in the deep freeze now. Just think one more day and a new month begins."

But, February is historically our coldest month and nature doesn't disagree,

Very Cold Over Interior Alaska Early This Week...

The Central and Eastern Interior of Alaska will see low temperatures in the 30s and 40s below tonight and Monday night, with highs in the teens and 20s below today, Monday and Tuesday.

East winds developing Tuesday along the Tanana River and over Summits of the Steese, Elliot and Dalton Highways will cause very cold wind chills and blowing snow from Tuesday into Wednesday. Low visibility in blowing snow will be possible over the highway summits Tuesday into Wednesday.

The Interior is expected to warm slowly during the second half of the week.

I was watching my Positano, Italy weekly Youtube video, and they had returned from England via France and by Provence. I was amazed to see that many area beaches are covered in slabs of natural white marble. The ancient statue carvers found their marble cheap and plentiful!

There is another Youtube I subscribe to and the girl raises the last word ending in a sentence similar to my Missourian father putting an I sound at the end of his. The girl was born and raised in Seattle, but I don't think the speech pattern originated there. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not a beach lover but I did love those scenes, PATRICIA!  I'm definitely ready for Spring!

Well, tomorrow I call the junk dealer and find out when he can pick up my car at the repair shop.  I bid it a fond "Goodbye".  It sure has done well for me.  It gave me a good 21 years including 6 trips to and from Texas to care for my Grandkids and the whole 19 of the 21 years, getting me back and forth to work!

Thanks for all the admonitions and like you, SANDY, I've been telling myself it's time to slow down and watch where I'm stepping.  In the house is not a problem.  I'm all on one floor but I've always been an "outside lover" and it's hard to slow down out there.  I am looking forward to Spring but I think I was lucky to have fallen in the winter.  My well-padded winter coat probably saved me more "ouchies" than I want to deal with.

Now I'm off to the haystack to dig up some zzzzs!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Warmer this morning with a temp of 0°F much nicer than the -30° or so.

Plumber coming this morning to fix a leak in a tap ,they are friends and have done work for our clients when needed. Husband and wife team like us when we were in business.

Need some moo juice at the grocery store later and then home to do a bit of laundry.

Patricia...March is our unknown for weather......could be a day you don't need a heavy coat or is could be a major dump of snow! Loved watching the video of surfing. Would love to try that.

better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning AMY and anyone who arrives later.  When I opened this site, I thought I'd be talking to myself and then I left to meet Cooper's arrival and fed him, made myself some breakfast, came back and AMY had arrived.

I must look pretty bad because this is the first time Frankie has seen me since my fall and it wasn't even real daylight yet and her first words were, "Does that hurt as bad as it looks?"

I'm off to get myself dressed and then maybe a walk with Cooper and some housework.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning Ladies. JaneS How old is Frankie? Instead of yogart Our 3&1/2 year old great grand son that live next door In the other duplex. said to Nancy grandma I want some patoe chips out of that big bag,a apple and some ogart. grand Ma took care of his wishes and he took them and went home. we keep those little bages of chips for the great grand childern. don't know for sure but I think he was thinking he was getting short changed with the little bags. over about the same amountout of a big bag in a ziplock bag. all four of our great grands sure is a blessing to live next door. our oldest deaughter and her deaughter are bouth teaucher qualified. so the oldest deaughter takes the children up to her house three days a week and home schools them. I Have mixed emoations about that. yes they miss some of the bad but they also miss some good times with there peairs. the skyes are clear not a cloud in sight and 27º.  Gloria Like wise with your snow , I can do with out the slick snow packed roads. Like AMY said with hard work I also have had enough time on roads snow and ice coverd when i was driveing over the road. I have driven in 47 of the 50 states and canada also. well this book is long enough for now. see you all later.

Good morning at 2° and feels like -9° with a bright blue sky. Looks beautiful with the white snow all around. This will be the day it starts getting dirty. I was looking at the roof and the peeks. The one at the end is bare in the back area and in the front it is hanging looks like almost 3feet from the building the way the wind was blowing it. In front of every peek they snow hanging from the roof gets smaller. The maintenance man was running the small plow gain this morning and of course woke me. I would not want to be the one who owns the car in this front row corner, looks like ice all around it. It it now between the lines of the space but half way where the cars cut that corner. Hope no trucks come along and clip it.

JANE  I had to back read to find out what happened to you and finally saw where you fell, but  really on your face? At least when I fell last year I don't know where I fell only that I came to on my back. Then that was more passingout than falling-took a month before I was home after that. PLEASE be careful. WE DON'T WANT YOU IN THE HOSPITAL AGAIN.

AMY  I don't think this new maintenance man is happy to be here, he was at one of their other buildings closer to where he lives. Probable angry that he had to come here while the storm was raging and had to plow. Wanted everyone to be up because he was here working instead of at home. I know Paul was off on week ends but if it started to snow he would leave his home if Conn. and head here. He tried to be as quiet as the machines would let him be.

PATRICIA  Ok I copied/pasted those 2 links, will send them to family here and think to Yvette, too and ask her if she would like to be swimming in that surf in the second one.

JANE  I know how you feel about your car, I felt awful when I saw the tow truck take my one and only brand new one away after a bit over 20 years.

When I came to on my back on the floor I don't know where my rollator was or how I got there. Could not move at all. Then I heard someone at the door, son and DIL. He got me on my feet and then I was OK They insisted they take me to the ER. It was the result of too much antibiotics that new dentist where I had gone for years prescribed them. I know my last teeth have to come out and I am afraid to go to that dentist again and also afraid of taking any antibiotics. Because of my replaced right shoulder I have to take 4 antibiotic capsules an hour before going to a dentist now-to prevent infection.

SHIRLEY  love the name you settled on for that RIRed chicken. Now you have a bit of  the 13th colony as a neighbor.  BTW  if I remember right RI was the only state that did not back prohibition.

LLOYD  snow never kept me home from work but if it was bad by noontime I would leave and go home, a lot of us did that.

CNA has been here and gone at last.  It is now 25° and feels like 19°. A heat wave is almost here.   :smitten:  :snowball:

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning, it's minus 36 and going to a high of minus 26. We will very slowly warm again until the 4th has a high and low of zero. Amy, March used to be the same as yours, but the last three have been snow dumps. I have no idea how I'll spend my day; nothing is pressing, so it may be simply on the couch and computer!

Seems at least half of this month just passed me by‼️  I must post today, no matter what.  I come in to read the posts but have to keep logging in, then my post is gone.....Quite sure it is operater error🤪🤪

Our three weeks of helping take care of our grandchildren is over and we are trying to settle back into our easy life.  It was fun, but I think we are too old for this😩🤪🤪🥰🥰🥰

I am going to post this IF I can.  Then I am going to attempt to start reading to see what all I have missed out on.

Have a wonderful day, EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Jenny,  glad to see you back again.  You have been missed.

Janie, so sorry about your fall and your car.  That's a "double whammy" you didn't need.  :'(

Dil who lives on the other side of town posted on Facebook that their house shook for "at least 15 seconds" this morning due to a 3.5 earthquake near the north edge of Oklahoma.  I was doing errands around my side and didn't feel a thing.

News said reports were that it was felt in Wichita.  Hope Shirley wasn't affected.

It was 73º and sunny here today.  I didn't need a coat while I was out - even while filling the gas tank. However, there are Winter Storm warnings for the entire state from tomorrow night through "maybe" Saturday or Sunday.  Biggest issue is supposed to be ice - although about 6 inches of snow is possible in the OKC metro area.  Either one will shut everything down.  Bleah!!!!
Glad I have plenty of that Beef Veggie soup still in the fridge.

Hope each of you is having a pleasant evening, will sleep well and have pleasant dreams.

hELLO Everyfriend!  Today was a pretty busy one!  I got a lot of stuff done around here but none of it shows.  My car is now in the junkyard.  They picked it up today and left me a check at the repair shop.  Cathy is going to pick up the check and deposit it in my account tomorrow.

I think I'll clean off my desk tomorrow!  if you could see it you'd know why I'm saying that!

LLOYD, Frankie is 27 (I think)  I can't keep up with their ages! She's my next to the youngest granddaughter!  She says she's probably never going to get married because all the guys she knows are dumb or mean!  I think there's someone out there who is right for her and he'll be around one of these days!

JENNY, Welcome back!  Good to "see" you!

Now I'm going to get the stuff done that I have to do before I hit the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Callie, our reports in Wichita said it was a 4.5 quake so I checked & MY numbers are for Medford, OK today. Is that the one you are talking about?  I was out & about myself so didn't notice but have not done a check of paintings on the walls.  Have several that always look crooked after one. I wore a hooded sweatshirt when I topped off my gas tank, but wore a coat to Sam's earlier.

Jenny, I did wonder what was going on with you but such a crazy week at my house by the time I got thru whining about my life I didn't ask about anyone missing. I gave up on taking care of kids quite a while ago, but did explain that I could sit-sit (kids in bed) for emergencies.

Jane, I spent time mourning with you about your car. Don't they know they are supposed to run forever???  Nearly 10:00 & I've kind of snacked all evening but no real supper, think I will just go to bed. Maybe tomorrow will be better. (((hugs))) The waiting & wondering is over so now what to do, my stomach is churning for you.

Sweet dreams and God Bless.  Love ya'all.  Shirley

Our news media said no damage here but not sure about closer to Metford. I'm concerned about my daughter driving in from St.Louis tomorrow, that she gets here before "the mix" arrives. She is determined to get here for her 3 grands "Grandparent's Day". She worked while HER kids were growning up & now retired so thoroughly enjoying her 5 grands! Stay warm!
